:00:35. > :00:42.Queen's Club. Sunshine, cocktails and some build key -- silky ball
:00:43. > :00:43.skills. Who needs Brazil when you have a carnival of tennis in West
:00:44. > :01:18.London? Yes, World Cup fever hit the Queen's
:01:19. > :01:24.Club. The World Cup kicks off in Brazil but here, it is all about
:01:25. > :01:50.earning a quarterfinal place. This is the order of play:
:01:51. > :01:59.well, it is another hot day. The hottest day of the week so far. It
:02:00. > :02:05.will be even hotter tomorrow. Andy Murray is enjoying these conditions.
:02:06. > :02:10.This is his opponent today, Radek Stepanek. The tricky customer, 35
:02:11. > :02:16.years of age. Feliciano Lopez beat Lleyton Hewitt yesterday.
:02:17. > :02:23.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is out early today and he is fourth match on
:02:24. > :02:28.Centre, so a long wait for him. And Grigor Dimitrov is also going to be
:02:29. > :02:32.out on Centre Court as well. A lot to look forward to. A great order of
:02:33. > :02:41.play. As far as Andy Murray is concerned, a great start yesterday.
:02:42. > :02:47.He played well, I thought. He won 91% of the points on his first
:02:48. > :02:52.serve, which is almost 70% percentage. He would take that into
:02:53. > :02:57.Wimbledon right now. We saw his movement was superb. He was hitting
:02:58. > :03:00.the ball cleanly. It is not often he doesn't hit the ball cleanly. For
:03:01. > :03:09.his first match on grass, I thought he looked superb already. Mathieu
:03:10. > :03:13.was making him work for some of it. He is perhaps the perfect opponent
:03:14. > :03:17.because he does strike the ball aggressively and he can defend. He
:03:18. > :03:22.does not move as well as Murray does. He gave him a lot of shots to
:03:23. > :03:29.try to fend off and Andy will have been pleased with the day 's outing.
:03:30. > :03:38.The weather, the court, it is all working for him. This is perfect for
:03:39. > :03:43.him to get used to the court. Absolutely. Last year, the first
:03:44. > :03:46.couple of matches, Andy Murray was concerned about the courts.
:03:47. > :03:50.Understandably so. It rained every day and the courts were greasy. He
:03:51. > :03:56.was worried about his movement. Yesterday, he was firm. His backhand
:03:57. > :04:03.down the line, when he hits behind his opponent on grass, was working
:04:04. > :04:09.beautifully yesterday. Perfect to come through that. It is another
:04:10. > :04:15.impressive victory and if he wins again today, he will become only the
:04:16. > :04:19.10th player to win 450 matches on the ATP to Earth. These are all
:04:20. > :04:33.players who are still active on the two. Lleyton Hewitt won his 600 in
:04:34. > :04:42.March. He will be up in the 600s pretty quickly, I am sure. Look at
:04:43. > :04:48.Roger! Who will get close to that? He has also had such an incredible
:04:49. > :05:00.run on grass courts as well. Olympic gold, Wimbledon title, undefeated so
:05:01. > :05:05.far. He is the number one player in the world on grass. He will not be
:05:06. > :05:12.seeded first at Wimbledon will, but people will think of him as the
:05:13. > :05:16.favourite because he is. He will be under a major spotlight for the next
:05:17. > :05:24.four weeks, as will Amelie morass mot. She likes her football as well,
:05:25. > :05:29.by the looks of it. He loves this time of year, even though it is
:05:30. > :05:38.pressured. He embraces the pressure, it seems. You think he would be a
:05:39. > :05:44.bit nervous, but he loves being here. He loves all of the pressure
:05:45. > :05:47.that comes at Wimbledon, where he is on the front page of the newspapers
:05:48. > :05:52.almost every day full is not it is unlike the other rant slams for him.
:05:53. > :05:58.It is big news when he plays those, but not like here. Everywhere he
:05:59. > :06:03.goes, people are taking photos of him, his girlfriend, but he thrives
:06:04. > :06:09.on it. He plays better here pulled up also, having got over it last
:06:10. > :06:17.year, the pressure is perhaps not as intense as it was. Maybe not as
:06:18. > :06:20.intense but everyday is important or multiple champions. Every day they
:06:21. > :06:27.want to improve their bit. Yesterday, he looked as though he
:06:28. > :06:34.could play perfect tennis. He has won two Grand Slams but he wants
:06:35. > :06:40.three. Radek Stepanek will not be easy though. He is a tricky
:06:41. > :06:49.customer. He will not be frightened of the situation. I have got great
:06:50. > :06:57.respect for Radek Stepanek. He is a warrior. He has won the Davis with
:06:58. > :07:04.the Czech team the last two-year 's. Week in, week out, he is always
:07:05. > :07:09.there. He is dangerous. He is one of the best volunteers on the tiller
:07:10. > :07:17.and he will relish this opportunity. It is not a foregone conclusion.
:07:18. > :07:24.Murray obviously be favourite, but Stepanek knows his way around. What
:07:25. > :07:29.about Stan Wawrinka? We were here yesterday saying he had come here
:07:30. > :07:33.after winning -- losing at the French and that he needed some
:07:34. > :07:44.gameplay and his part -- his opponent had to retire. That was not
:07:45. > :07:49.going to be an easy match. Wawrinka will be disappointed not to have had
:07:50. > :07:56.that extra match. He will be playing Sam Querrey, who is a flame-thrower.
:07:57. > :08:02.He is an awkward player. He will not allow Wawrinka to control the
:08:03. > :08:10.rallies from the back of the court. I think that could be a really
:08:11. > :08:14.difficult encounter for him. Such a shame, really, because Marcos
:08:15. > :08:20.Baghdatis having won at Nottingham, really on form, we understand he got
:08:21. > :08:24.this injury early in the match and you don't want to do anything major
:08:25. > :08:30.and have a problem with Wimbledon looming. He would not have done this
:08:31. > :08:34.unless there was a major problem. He is a real competitor. He has a
:08:35. > :08:39.wildcard at Wimbledon and he would have fancied his chances yesterday.
:08:40. > :08:48.He knew he had a chance and it is very unlucky. Today, Stan takes on
:08:49. > :08:55.Sam Querrey who won here in 2010. This week, he has played two matches
:08:56. > :09:04.and has not has -- has not had his serve broken. He is a man mounting
:09:05. > :09:12.and his game will not be an easy match up for Stan. Not at all. Stan
:09:13. > :09:18.has reached the fourth round before but it takes him longer. Andy Murray
:09:19. > :09:23.comes on to a grass court and within an hour, he is feeling comfortable.
:09:24. > :09:33.Robert blew the same is true for buffering on a clay court. It would
:09:34. > :09:42.take me about a year! -- probably the same is true for Wawrinka on a
:09:43. > :09:47.clay court. This will be now tracking for him. He has come of age
:09:48. > :09:54.over the last two years, hasn't he? He is in the top five now. He is a
:09:55. > :10:03.Grand Slam winner. There is an aura about a Grand Slam winner. Not only
:10:04. > :10:13.did he lose at the French Open, he lost in four sets, losing the second
:10:14. > :10:19.to sets with out any game wins. He will be trying to get back into
:10:20. > :10:24.focus now, desperately needing some matches in order to get back into
:10:25. > :10:31.it. John, you have got some work to do. You will be back off to the
:10:32. > :10:38.commentary box now. John was just speaking about back -- Magnus
:10:39. > :10:44.Norman. We will be speaking to him and other coaches so if you have any
:10:45. > :10:52.questions, please contact us. Also with any questions or observations.
:10:53. > :10:58.Let us join Andrew Cotter now for some commentary.
:10:59. > :11:04.Three games all but so far from telling the whole story. Berdych has
:11:05. > :11:25.had seven break points. By contrast, the Berdych service
:11:26. > :11:55.games have been briefed to say the least. -- brief to say the least.
:11:56. > :12:05.Of course, Andy Murray on next against Radek Stepanek. If Berdych
:12:06. > :12:09.had taken his chances, he would be limbering up already because he has
:12:10. > :12:10.really dominated this match so far. He has just not taken the big point
:12:11. > :12:40.opportunities. So, a very familiar tale. A hold to
:12:41. > :12:48.love for Tomas Berdych in about a minute and a half. Mannarino is
:12:49. > :12:52.working a lot harder on his own serve. But you never know, if he
:12:53. > :13:03.continues to hang on in there, perhaps get to a tie-break, he might
:13:04. > :13:10.get there. The that comparison. For Mannarino, and he is doing a good
:13:11. > :13:17.job so far. He is hardly touching the ball in Berdych's service games.
:13:18. > :13:22.He needs to hang in our man on those service games, try not to get
:13:23. > :13:27.frustrated at the big serves, and keep believing that he will get a
:13:28. > :13:33.chance in one service game. Maybe in the tie-break where Berdych could
:13:34. > :13:36.give him some second serves. The trick for Mannarino is to keep the
:13:37. > :13:42.focus and the belief that he will get the chance. So far, he is
:13:43. > :13:49.hanging in there. He doesn't look like he will win the match, but he
:13:50. > :13:57.has not lost his serve yet full is not and he was very impressive in
:13:58. > :14:05.the first two rounds. He lost only three games in his second match.
:14:06. > :14:09.Again, you put that in context. This is the only time he has had
:14:10. > :14:14.back-to-back wins this year, so he is operating a couple of levels
:14:15. > :14:21.below Tomas Berdych chip. But he has been to the quarterfinal here
:14:22. > :14:25.before. He has had a good run at Wimbledon as well. He knows his way
:14:26. > :14:31.around grass court. It suits his game. He does not have a big serve,
:14:32. > :14:36.but the grass gives it the extra pace and he can swing out to be left
:14:37. > :14:40.with his serve. He knows how to play on this service -- service and
:14:41. > :15:03.Berdych knows he must put them away. That was called long but it was
:15:04. > :15:07.tight, very tight. It has caught the line. Quite a bit of it as well.
:15:08. > :15:37.They will replay that point. Mannarino did well there. He soaks
:15:38. > :15:41.up the pressure. Berdych hit some really good forehands but he punched
:15:42. > :15:43.it back, kept himself in the rally and eventually Berdych made an
:15:44. > :16:27.error. Well, the first time that Mannarino
:16:28. > :16:31.has been in the position of some, but on his serve. -- of some comfort
:16:32. > :17:07.on his serve. Just occasionally, Mannarino doesn't
:17:08. > :17:11.get the direction right on that second serve. Sometimes it floats in
:17:12. > :17:13.the middle of the box and he is in big trouble. He needs to be a bit
:17:14. > :17:56.more accurate sometimes. He is winning 50% of points on his
:17:57. > :18:00.second serve, so he must start landing his first serve in order to
:18:01. > :18:17.keep pressure up and Berdych. There we are. They hold and no break
:18:18. > :18:25.points therefore Mannarino. When you get to the latter stages of the set
:18:26. > :18:33.and you think you are in control, you can get a bit twitchy, the level
:18:34. > :18:59.drops for a minute, and you have to bounceback.
:19:00. > :19:27.A big bonus. Double fault and then a second service to have a go at will
:19:28. > :19:34.stop he probably feels like he is dreaming. Anna Reno has not seen
:19:35. > :19:41.many of these. -- Mannarino. There we go. This will test the nerve of
:19:42. > :19:45.Berdych. He has not lost a point when he has got his first serve in
:19:46. > :19:55.but he has not found one yet this game. We have seen this so many
:19:56. > :20:00.times before. 0-30. This is when the big servers normally get that first
:20:01. > :20:13.serving, when they need it. Another miss!
:20:14. > :20:22.He didn't do enough on that return. He is annoyed with himself as he
:20:23. > :20:33.knows he had a chance. It was a decent second serve but it was not
:20:34. > :20:56.one of his best, so he needed to take a chance on that.
:20:57. > :21:05.Suddenly, after a set where Mannarino has been clinging on for
:21:06. > :21:28.dear life, he has two break points and a chance to serve for the set.
:21:29. > :21:38.Oh, I'm lucky there. That could easily have just blip over onto the
:21:39. > :21:44.other side of the net. Neither of the players knew where that was
:21:45. > :21:48.going to go. Berdych was looking across at his players box and
:21:49. > :22:01.laughing a loss of relief. He still has to save another break point.
:22:02. > :22:10.He finally get his first serve in. I'm not saying much will be the last
:22:11. > :22:15.chance for Mannarino, but they will be few and far between him will stop
:22:16. > :22:30.--. A challenge instantly from
:22:31. > :22:37.Mannarino. He has probably done that to have a little bit of time to
:22:38. > :22:38.clear his head. Take a moment. Not one of the best challenges you will
:22:39. > :23:06.ever see. Well, after seeing the correct of
:23:07. > :23:13.the two break points, Berdych chick resumes normal service. Mannarino
:23:14. > :23:24.that has to look at that in a positive way. Even though he lost
:23:25. > :23:28.that game. He should have converted one of those break points but hit
:23:29. > :23:33.the net on the one that could have gone his way. He has done his
:23:34. > :23:40.business well here in the first set to hang in there. This was the point
:23:41. > :23:45.at 1540 where he went for the right shot, but neither player knew if
:23:46. > :23:56.that was going to go over or not. Berdych knew he couldn't get to it
:23:57. > :24:00.if it went over. He got lucky. So close. We would be serving for the
:24:01. > :24:06.set now full. That is what this game is all about. Very frustrating just
:24:07. > :24:13.for that second and he ended up losing the game. Again, it does not
:24:14. > :24:20.matter who is leading for big periods. It is to do with those big
:24:21. > :24:22.moments. He is going to have to come out here and hold serve to stay in
:24:23. > :24:38.the set. Judged by what has gone before,
:24:39. > :24:39.Berdych may well get his chance. Andy Murray against Radek Stepanek
:24:40. > :24:56.to come after this match. It fills up here at Centre Court
:24:57. > :24:58.here at Queen's Club perhaps in anticipation of that. A very
:24:59. > :25:01.interesting match here at the moment. Mannarino serving to stay in
:25:02. > :26:23.this match. The ball girl at the back of the
:26:24. > :26:26.court did not pick the ball up quickly enough and Mannarino was
:26:27. > :26:28.distracted in the middle of his serve. That's why he asked to stop
:26:29. > :26:56.but Berdych did not realise that. You can feel the difference that he
:26:57. > :27:01.is beginning to find his first serve a bit more. His second serve is far
:27:02. > :27:37.too gentle. The width Berdych's ground strokes full
:27:38. > :27:48.So, Mannarino seems to be getting stronger as the set goes on. He did
:27:49. > :27:51.a good job fair at the disappointment of not breaking
:27:52. > :27:54.serve. He could have been thinking about that but he got right back to
:27:55. > :28:01.business and very good hold of serve. Using the body serve a bit
:28:02. > :28:05.more now which is very good if you are playing someone who is as tall
:28:06. > :28:07.as Berdych. Finds it forgot to get out of the way of the ball quickly.
:28:08. > :29:26.Get jammed. -- gets jammed. He can't afford those. Getting off
:29:27. > :29:29.four AV second serves now. -- for a few second serves now. Mannarino
:29:30. > :30:30.trying to make Berdych pay. That is the only hope Mannarino has
:30:31. > :30:40.to claw his way into the tie-break and see what happens there. We
:30:41. > :30:45.talked about the big four in tennis and Berdych has always been just
:30:46. > :30:50.outside. He was sixth at the moment. He has been there or thereabouts
:30:51. > :30:58.just doesn't quite have the whatever it is to get into the main four. It
:30:59. > :31:05.is, he has been in one Grand Slam final. So he has still had a great
:31:06. > :31:10.career, but he is in an era where there is some multiple Grand Slam
:31:11. > :31:17.winners ahead of him who are not going away. And it is tough to break
:31:18. > :31:23.through. Stan Wawrinka did it, but it is not easy. If anything it is
:31:24. > :31:29.his defensive abilities. When you come against the top four, these
:31:30. > :31:34.days the top players are such great athletes in terms they can attack
:31:35. > :31:38.and they're strong, but they defend so well. Sometimes Berdych's
:31:39. > :31:43.movement just at that top level, he doesn't move badly for a big man,
:31:44. > :31:47.but he just doesn't dig those balls back as much as the top players do.
:31:48. > :31:53.They're in the rallies all the time. He has to sort of hit more winners
:31:54. > :31:57.than they do to beat them and it is tough over five sets to do that at
:31:58. > :32:01.this real top level. But he has been close and he has been in one final
:32:02. > :32:25.of a slam and there is no reason why he can't do it again.
:32:26. > :33:12.It was 2010 he had that great run to the final of Wimbledon.
:33:13. > :33:21.Oh! Despite the slip he got there and once there able the finish it
:33:22. > :33:27.off beautifully. I may have changed my mind about his movement after
:33:28. > :33:33.this point. He slipped still managed to push forward. That was great. The
:33:34. > :33:37.first three steps on the spring were impressive and then managed to
:33:38. > :34:53.follow that up with that backhand down the line. Great shot.
:34:54. > :35:04.Oh! What a call. It was a late call from the line judge then and an
:35:05. > :35:08.overrule from the umpire. This is all rather foreLorne. There is
:35:09. > :35:14.nothing he can do but replay the point. Berdych was in a good
:35:15. > :35:20.position in this rally. He is not happy, because now his opponent gets
:35:21. > :35:25.a first serve. Let's look on Hawk-Eye. Mannarino was backed into
:35:26. > :36:33.a corner there. If Mannarino manages to win this
:36:34. > :37:00.first set, it will seem like a long, long time.
:37:01. > :37:08.Just too strong. Mannarino hanging in there. Just trying to get one
:37:09. > :37:13.more back in an awkward position. But Berdych so quick with these
:37:14. > :37:18.ground strokes. Just kept on powering through and this one, very
:37:19. > :37:32.good balance. Got himself set and very good hip rotation.
:37:33. > :37:38.You can't fault Mannarino for the way he has played the points under
:37:39. > :38:09.pressure and there has been a lot of pressure in this first set.
:38:10. > :38:14.A challenge immediately from Mannarino. I think this caught the
:38:15. > :38:17.line. He could have got this, couldn't he? He was in a position to
:38:18. > :38:21.get this back. He thought it was going out. He absolutely left it.
:38:22. > :38:51.Well in. That sounded like two oxes there!
:38:52. > :38:55.Not sure if that ball checked a bit. He looked like he was there. He
:38:56. > :39:08.didn't get much of the strings on that return.
:39:09. > :39:19.Oh! Are you kidding? He had given up the ghost a couple of strokes before
:39:20. > :39:23.that. Outstanding point. He slipped again here and then somehow regained
:39:24. > :39:28.his balance. Looked like he wasn't going to get this, but not only got
:39:29. > :39:31.it he had the wedge on that one, directed it across the court. What a
:39:32. > :40:28.shot! UMPIRE: Mr Berdych challenging the
:40:29. > :40:33.call on the right. So he overruled. He call it in and Berdych challenged
:40:34. > :40:37.and Berdych is right. And he is shaking his head now. Ove, the
:40:38. > :41:09.injustice of it all! Finally he gets another chance in
:41:10. > :41:14.this nine-minute long game. There was a similar length game earlier in
:41:15. > :41:24.the set. A set which may be about to finish in favour of Tomas Berdych.
:41:25. > :41:33.What a good serve that was out wide. He has gone to that a few times.
:41:34. > :42:27.That was about the best one he has hit.
:42:28. > :42:39.The longest rally and the longest game ends with a wide from Mannarino
:42:40. > :42:56.and another chance. A fabulous point.
:42:57. > :43:16.Chattering away to himself! Remembering the start of the game he
:43:17. > :43:31.was a young man. You have got to give credit to
:43:32. > :43:59.Mannarino. It is amazing how well he has played these pressure points.
:44:00. > :44:05.Extraordinary and Mannarino will have his chance in the tie-break
:44:06. > :44:15.after that remarkable game of near enough 12 minutes. It is into the
:44:16. > :44:22.tie-break we go. So many talking points from that game. We don't have
:44:23. > :45:17.time to pour over them just now. What Berdych must be thinking.
:45:18. > :45:34.He did well to get down from his great height to cover these ground
:45:35. > :45:40.strokes. He faced a tie-breaker in his first match against James
:45:41. > :45:41.Duckworth and came through in three sets there, the Australian
:45:42. > :46:03.qualifier. Oh! Oh, that was a bit of an ugly
:46:04. > :46:05.point there. And expensive. Well, it could be. They're all hesitating
:46:06. > :47:46.with the net caughts there. A very close second serve there. I'm
:47:47. > :47:51.surprised he didn't go for at least an attempt there. It was very close.
:47:52. > :47:57.It may have clipped the edge of the line. He should have challenged.
:47:58. > :48:15.That is what I thought. UMPIRE: Mr Berdych challenging the
:48:16. > :48:33.call on the left baseline. The ball was called out. Berdych challenges.
:48:34. > :48:37.Oh! Berdych is giving everyone the Paddington hard stare at the moment.
:48:38. > :48:45.We know he got away with a double fault just a moment ago! It's not
:48:46. > :48:47.been a good day so far for some of the calling. There have been four or
:48:48. > :49:22.five mistakes. That was bad shot selection from
:49:23. > :49:27.Mannarino to come in on that ball. Too far back from the laceline --
:49:28. > :49:32.baseline to come in on that one. He may be feeling a sense of injustice
:49:33. > :49:38.and wondered what happened in the main body of the set. But he is in
:49:39. > :49:40.control of this tie-break now. You can see there, you have got to be
:49:41. > :50:05.volleying closer into the net than that.
:50:06. > :50:15.Again he stared down plenty of big points in the set proper and came
:50:16. > :50:23.back from 0-40 down a couple of times.
:50:24. > :50:27.A couple of big serves from Berdych will do it. Throwing into the sun
:50:28. > :50:57.end. He is nearly there now. Surely he
:50:58. > :51:07.can't waste the set points he now has.
:51:08. > :51:16.Eventually a roar and an ace and what a set, what a struggle for
:51:17. > :51:21.Tomas Berdych, but he does take the first set against Adrian Mannarino.
:51:22. > :51:31.On a tie-break, Adrian Mannarino fought hard, but the number do seed
:51:32. > :51:40.has the opening set. That man there is common wealth gold medallist. He
:51:41. > :51:47.gets there! Thorpe is getting a standing ovation. He never
:51:48. > :51:50.faultered. He has done it. Common wealth gold! Here comes the
:51:51. > :52:15.challenge! Oh, it was so close! Another big vent this summer, the
:52:16. > :52:24.Commonwealth Games, all eyes on Glasgow from July 23rd. New shirt,
:52:25. > :52:29.new set, forget about all that nastiness of the first set. He was
:52:30. > :52:34.wasteful with his break, 11 break points. He thought he might have won
:52:35. > :52:39.that first set half an hour ago. It took an hour and 10 minutes for that
:52:40. > :52:42.set. Adrian Mannarino, was that his big chance there. You can't see
:52:43. > :52:47.Berdych being so wasteful in the second. You would have thought so.
:52:48. > :52:51.Mannarino, you have to hand it to him, he did play a lot of those
:52:52. > :52:56.break points well. But Berdych should have sown that set up a lot
:52:57. > :53:02.quicker than he did. But if he won the final point. So he is up a set.
:53:03. > :53:07.And you know he will be happy, very happy. Mannarino has got to focus
:53:08. > :53:12.back and he almost won that set really. He was unlucky not to be
:53:13. > :53:15.serving for the set ironically enough, although Berdych was by far
:53:16. > :53:20.the better player in terms of chances and break points. But
:53:21. > :53:25.Mannarino should have served for the set there. He was unlucky with that
:53:26. > :53:31.net caught. It could have gone either way. A lot of people have
:53:32. > :53:36.timed their run to get here, just as Murray is starting his match with
:53:37. > :53:44.Stepanek. And they're watching this and why not, it is a very
:53:45. > :54:03.interesting match. Wawrinka is the number one seat. Any seat. It is a
:54:04. > :54:13.huge stand off to the right. A lot of people still coming in. Just
:54:14. > :54:30.having to wait. Any second now. Sit on a small child if you have to!
:54:31. > :54:37.Just waiting for a late Kommers behind Tomas Berdych. Actually
:54:38. > :55:22.they're just standing up having a chat. When you're ready!
:55:23. > :55:28.A wonderful - cracking sufficient to start this second set. What a
:55:29. > :55:33.magnificent forehand that was. He has been pulled out wide three times
:55:34. > :55:36.already. This one, he just hits it around the outside of the ball and
:55:37. > :55:58.hooks it across court. A beautiful shot.
:55:59. > :56:06.Enjoying is himself a bit now here, Berdych. I think Mannarino is
:56:07. > :56:17.worried about running into the lines person on that last ball. It is a
:56:18. > :56:42.bit too close for comfort that. I care not for your troubles!
:56:43. > :56:49.That is good move: Didn't too much with that ball. Just got up to it
:56:50. > :56:57.nice and early and made sure he got it deep. So immediately at the start
:56:58. > :56:58.of second set Berdych is going to through what the torture of the
:56:59. > :57:40.first set of break points. Hasn't hi done well on the big
:57:41. > :57:43.points? Berdych did nothing wrong in that shot. A good high forehand up
:57:44. > :58:26.high. when was the last time Berdych has
:58:27. > :58:41.had 13 break points and not converted one?
:58:42. > :58:48.That was interesting on that serve from Mannarino, where he really
:58:49. > :58:53.through the -- threw the ball out very wide and Berdych moved early to
:58:54. > :58:54.make sure he cut that serve off. Before it got him out too wide and
:58:55. > :59:24.he could get into the rally. It is the same story so far as the
:59:25. > :01:16.first set. from Mannarino. The vast majority of
:01:17. > :01:22.break points serves, he has been swinging out wide and there, he
:01:23. > :01:23.changed it up, kicking it out to the middle and Berdych went the wrong
:01:24. > :02:07.way. That could have been nasty. It is
:02:08. > :02:09.that area about four or five feet from the back of the court. It
:02:10. > :02:51.always seems to cause the problems. There have been too many of those.
:02:52. > :03:21.Another lengthy game in the Mannarino serve. -- on the Mannarino
:03:22. > :03:34.a game, that looked close there. He looked at his coach there. His coach
:03:35. > :03:41.said it was good but it was very close.
:03:42. > :04:14.A big chance there. That is remarkable. 15 and counting. That
:04:15. > :04:17.break point was in Berdych's hands. That was a very comfortable forehand
:04:18. > :04:46.he had there and that was a poor shot on break point.
:04:47. > :04:58.He still can't quite get across the line.
:04:59. > :05:05.Just past the ten minute barrier but a distance to go. 12 minutes the
:05:06. > :05:37.record in this match so far. It is hard to keep going back to the
:05:38. > :06:09.well when you are constantly up against it. He is having to work.
:06:10. > :06:22.So, Adrian Mannarino holds another epic game.
:06:23. > :06:32.The Mannarino serve, he has been working very hard to hold his serve
:06:33. > :06:36.the whole time. The Berdych serve by contrast has been almost
:06:37. > :06:46.untouchable. He has won every single point on the first serve. We will
:06:47. > :06:56.see how he does in this service game full. They are ready for that now
:06:57. > :07:01.but the spectators were coming in and out. The umpire had a strict
:07:02. > :07:47.word. A tussle in the first game of the second set.
:07:48. > :07:54.ten minutes? Why bother with the body serve when you can serve like
:07:55. > :08:00.that down the line. He is enjoying himself it, the Frenchman. He is
:08:01. > :08:14.having a nice little five yard walk to the next service box.
:08:15. > :08:26.Oh! I want to know if that was quicker than Andy Murray's 38 second
:08:27. > :08:36.service game yesterday. We have had a 12 minute and an 11 minute service
:08:37. > :08:59.game from Mannarino. But Berdych just powering through them.
:09:00. > :09:58.Apparently that service game was one minute and two seconds. Sluggish.
:09:59. > :10:08.Someone out there will know what the quickest service game ever was. If
:10:09. > :10:15.you do know, please let us know. Sampras used to romp through them.
:10:16. > :10:16.There were a few of them. Goran Ivanisevic as well and Richard
:10:17. > :10:34.Krajicek. He is thinking, I once saw a second
:10:35. > :10:57.-- a 17 second service game. Perhaps I dreamt it.
:10:58. > :11:04.a man as large as he is. It is. He has moved well today. I thought he
:11:05. > :11:06.had lost this point but he moved a fraction too soon that, left the gap
:11:07. > :11:33.open. Break point. Berdych is baffled by this. 16 break
:11:34. > :11:43.points I have seen. Here we go again. I would think he is going to
:11:44. > :11:49.swing this one wide. He went down the middle last time. Berdych has
:11:50. > :11:58.been hanging over that site. Oh, he has gone back down the middle again.
:11:59. > :12:02.He still loses the point. That is tremendous stuff from Mannarino. You
:12:03. > :12:03.have two applaud him because he keeps responding to the break
:12:04. > :13:42.points. Andy Murray is looking at his watch
:13:43. > :13:49.somewhere. He is playing Radek Stepanek after this what should --
:13:50. > :13:53.match. He will have to start eating again. He will be starving hungry. I
:13:54. > :14:11.am sure he has some sushi somewhere. It is very warm out there. What a
:14:12. > :15:03.work-out for these men. Another opportunity. Bright, 18th
:15:04. > :15:05.time is a charm. This could be it. No one could survive more than 18
:15:06. > :15:35.break points against me! Eventually, finally, he celebrates
:15:36. > :15:37.as if he has won the mat shovels. He might be on his way to doing that
:15:38. > :15:58.now. -- is the 18th time we have seen a break
:15:59. > :16:09.point. That is a classic. That is unbelievable. Amazing. They had that
:16:10. > :16:18.famous line quite a few years ago now where someone went into the
:16:19. > :16:26.press conference after beating Jimmy Connors finally, after losing to him
:16:27. > :16:33.17 times and said, no one beats me 18 times in a row! A buzz now
:16:34. > :16:40.because you suspect Andy Murray will be coming quite soon. I cannot see
:16:41. > :16:46.Mannarino breaking. Although, with the way he has been playing, with
:16:47. > :16:55.his let call he had a chance to win the first serve -- first set. He has
:16:56. > :16:59.played well today. The vast majority of the shots have been played
:17:00. > :17:11.unbelievably well. There were just two or three times where Berdych had
:17:12. > :17:17.the opportunity to finish things and lost it. I think this has thrown
:17:18. > :17:26.People's lunch plans. They were planning on a little lunch before
:17:27. > :17:35.the Murray game and things are taking longer than they thought. The
:17:36. > :17:39.winner of this will play either Kenny De Schepper or Feliciano
:17:40. > :17:45.Lopez. They are playing at the moment as well. Berdych, the number
:17:46. > :17:48.two seed, is in fine battle now because he won the first set and is
:17:49. > :18:51.a game up in this one. He had a few awkward spins to deal
:18:52. > :19:34.with, there, Berdych. He is a big man, but he spins well.
:19:35. > :19:37.I think that might have been just the fifth point that Mannarino has
:19:38. > :20:10.won on the Berdych serve. It is a hold for Thomas Berdych.
:20:11. > :20:18.They have only had one previous meeting, these two, on the clay in
:20:19. > :20:22.Nice and Berdych one comfortably there. I would like to say he has
:20:23. > :20:24.been comfortable here because he has sort of been in control, but not
:20:25. > :20:41.completely. It is those worrying moments towards
:20:42. > :20:51.the end of the first set where Mannarino had those two break
:20:52. > :21:34.points. Apart from. -- apart from that it has been good.
:21:35. > :22:18.Oh, there were some big forehands in that rally. He is dangerous when he
:22:19. > :22:26.gets swinging like this. This is just brutal power.
:22:27. > :22:37.So, two break points for Tomas Berdych. They are so easy now.
:22:38. > :22:48.Berdych has the double break in the second set. Getting rapidly towards
:22:49. > :22:53.the quarterfinals. It looks like this match may be over shortly and
:22:54. > :23:02.the next matchup is Radek Stepanek up against Andy Murray. Beautiful
:23:03. > :23:08.conditions once again at Queen's Club once again for the first
:23:09. > :23:12.appearance of Andy Murray. Five straight points from Murray. Breaks
:23:13. > :23:18.in the opening game. He is off to apply. So far, so comfortable for
:23:19. > :23:25.Andy Murray. Murray working hard in the London son. There it is. Good
:23:26. > :23:36.enough from Andy Murray. He uses through to the last 16. -- eases
:23:37. > :23:39.through. This has been a very interesting
:23:40. > :23:48.match. It certainly seems Berdych is heading for the three now. -- for
:23:49. > :23:56.victory now. Like you say, John, he has not played badly at all,
:23:57. > :24:03.Berdych, it is just the finishing off he struggled with. No, his serve
:24:04. > :24:07.is immaculate. His forehand is big. His movement has been very good. A
:24:08. > :24:15.couple of slips but he has recovered well. Fabulous drop shots. I think
:24:16. > :24:18.he will be very pleased with the way he has played. Just to be conversion
:24:19. > :24:20.of break points will be something he will not be happy about. Other than
:24:21. > :25:27.that, playing well. to get there. He almost got up there
:25:28. > :25:30.too early. Too much time to think. The others he has been at full
:25:31. > :27:04.stretch. Too many options. No need for that! It is always trick
:27:05. > :27:10.gri overhead backhand, but simple enough with the post of the court
:27:11. > :27:11.there. He wasn't at full stretch. It was a comfortable shot there. He
:27:12. > :27:48.just got the angles all wrong. He has got the double break up, but
:27:49. > :27:57.he has faced that rarity of break point here. Coming into this game he
:27:58. > :28:25.had concede only five points on serve.
:28:26. > :28:37.Just shows you this game is mental. I think Tomas Berdych, one foot was
:28:38. > :28:42.in the locker room. He thought the match was won. Exactly. He missed
:28:43. > :28:46.that and he got up quickly too the drop shot and should have put that
:28:47. > :28:52.away. He had an easy backhand smash. He should have put that away. His
:28:53. > :30:28.mind wandered a wit and -- bit and you can't do that.
:30:29. > :31:48.they are just both inside that. -- between Serbs
:31:49. > :32:58.For once, it was a service game where he was looking at ease.
:32:59. > :33:28.A hold for men Adrian Mannarino. Tomas Berdych has made this his
:33:29. > :33:58.usual run-up. Different players have different way of doing things. Novak
:33:59. > :34:03.Djokovic, he has gone to ride -- Ibiza. It is what you feel
:34:04. > :34:07.comfortable doing. He has played a lot of matches.
:34:08. > :34:15.Would like to do well here, but is not the end of the world. Tomas
:34:16. > :34:19.Berdych should get through this match and get a few more matches
:34:20. > :34:25.under his belt on grass, a week off afterwards. Good preparation. The
:34:26. > :34:44.court is in such good shape. Hard to believe you will play as
:34:45. > :34:51.poor a game as he did in his last service game, very casual.
:34:52. > :35:16.Once set up, 4-3. Could return. Took that really
:35:17. > :35:17.early. Thomas Burdick could not react at all. It was back at his
:35:18. > :36:15.feet. Really had an opportunity in that
:36:16. > :36:22.rally. Did not get up to the backend quick enough and then retreated to
:36:23. > :36:35.the baseline. Now he is in a bit of trouble.
:36:36. > :36:45.A late call. Very late.
:36:46. > :36:51.The Frenchman thinks it is in, he is already walking across.
:36:52. > :37:04.It was good. He was not going to challenge if the call had not come,
:37:05. > :37:14.Mannarino knew it was good. Not easy on grass. No marks left,
:37:15. > :37:29.and it is hot, very hot. That was an instant challenge! Was
:37:30. > :37:40.it wide? It was. The crowd are beginning to get into it. Just.
:37:41. > :37:49.Now he is thinking about! Almost another challenge!
:37:50. > :38:10.I think that was quite long. Good return by Mannarino but still
:38:11. > :38:22.Tomas Berdych holds his serve. The end is coming perhaps, unless
:38:23. > :38:30.Mannarino Ken stage and -- can stage and escape act. Serving to stay in
:38:31. > :39:23.the match. Some cracking points in this match.
:39:24. > :39:47.It is trusting towards a finish. -- drifting.
:39:48. > :39:56.That serve worldwide has brought him some success. Unless you go after a
:39:57. > :40:46.very early you have no chance. Two hours is nearly upon us.
:40:47. > :40:59.Just a couple of sets. And Mannarino still just one break adrift. Berdych
:41:00. > :41:02.will need to serve for it. You might look at the result afterward and
:41:03. > :41:11.think, that was straightforward for Berdych.
:41:12. > :41:20.But Mannarino has done well. He is compact and has a nasty serve. Gets
:41:21. > :41:30.a really good left hand angle out wide. He absorbs pace very well.
:41:31. > :41:38.But he has never beaten a top ten player in the world. Nine attempts.
:41:39. > :41:46.And this has been his best tournament of the year, reaching the
:41:47. > :41:48.third round. We are always keeping an eye on possible Wimbledon
:41:49. > :41:58.candidates and Tomas Berdych will be there or thereabouts. Quite a lot
:41:59. > :42:03.depends on the draw. All will be revealed in the not too distant
:42:04. > :42:11.future. At the moment she is the number six in the world. Finally, he
:42:12. > :42:33.will serve for a place in the quarterfinals.
:42:34. > :42:37.Adrian Mannarino is complaining that a few people are just settling into
:42:38. > :43:17.their seats. A tough shot to direct in from that
:43:18. > :43:19.position. You need to hit it down the middle and not go for an angle
:43:20. > :44:09.like that. Adrian Mannarino heading for the
:44:10. > :44:25.exit. Two hours, three minutes had laboured in the afternoon sun.
:44:26. > :44:40.Dunn, eventually, with a trademark backhand. What a work-out for Tomas
:44:41. > :44:46.Berdych, but safely through. Hard earned against Adrian Mannarino.
:44:47. > :44:56.Straight sets, but not in the least straightforward. Applause for the
:44:57. > :45:02.crowd, and for himself, as you move through to the quarterfinals.
:45:03. > :45:20.Yes, he will face either logos or Shepherd. -- Lopez. They are
:45:21. > :45:27.battling on Court Number One. Next up, Andy Murray, the defending
:45:28. > :45:31.champion. An impressive performance yesterday and he is on court against
:45:32. > :45:51.a tough opponent, 35-year-old Radek Stepanek. Then it is standard --
:45:52. > :45:56.Stanislav Wawrinka, and a late evening for Jo Wilfred Tsonga. That
:45:57. > :46:22.is what we are looking forward to, but Andy Murray is up next.
:46:23. > :46:33.The celebrities will hope to get better in the kitchen, and Murray
:46:34. > :46:43.will hope to get better on the grass courts. The crowd looking forward to
:46:44. > :46:48.seeing him. First, let's hear from Tomas Berdych.
:46:49. > :46:53.That was not straightforward, was it?
:46:54. > :47:03.Definitely not. My opponent played very well. He is a really tough one.
:47:04. > :47:12.His game is well set for grass courts. He gave 100% and made it
:47:13. > :47:18.hard for me to the end. You have come through very tough
:47:19. > :47:40.matches, is there an idea start to the grass court season? -- idea.
:47:41. > :47:47.It is more of a challenge, you need to bring a better game and face
:47:48. > :47:55.tough situations. At the French Open your shirt was
:47:56. > :48:04.like something out of 1967, flower power. Why have you gone so normal,
:48:05. > :48:12.here in London? This is a beautiful and very
:48:13. > :48:19.historic club. I don't want to be so flashy. But I have at least one...
:48:20. > :48:32.Can we have around applause for the boxes? -- boxers?
:48:33. > :48:40.But don't worry, the flowers will still come, not here in London, but
:48:41. > :48:52.there will be more flowers! He'll be back-court tomorrow. --
:48:53. > :49:03.back on court. Let's update you on events in Edgbaston:
:49:04. > :49:18.The defending champion, out. But Roger Federer, he is through. A bit
:49:19. > :49:24.of a struggle against his Portuguese opponent.
:49:25. > :49:36.Here is the top seed, Stanislav Wawrinka. We will hear from his
:49:37. > :49:45.coach, Magnus, about what it is like to coach a top player. He is on
:49:46. > :49:55.court later on. And this is interesting. Marin Cilic Getting
:49:56. > :50:02.ready with his doubles partner, a Brazilian, and they will be on
:50:03. > :50:16.opposing sides tonight when the World Cup kicks off! We will hear
:50:17. > :50:21.from both of them. Reflections on that, Peter? So many chances for
:50:22. > :50:41.Tomas Berdych. Only convert it of 19 break points.
:50:42. > :50:48.-- converted two. He was not as sharp as you would like him to be,
:50:49. > :50:53.but that will come. They have been serving lunch and now
:50:54. > :51:04.Andy Murray is coming on court. Everybody will be scurrying up. His
:51:05. > :51:07.coach, her second day in charge. But a tricky match, against Radek
:51:08. > :51:22.Stepanek. Obviously I enjoy coming back here.
:51:23. > :51:28.I have played some of my best tennis here and I got my first win on the
:51:29. > :51:35.tour here when I was 18 years old. I always enjoy coming back.
:51:36. > :51:48.It will be eight lunch for me to play him at such a great tournament,
:51:49. > :51:58.-- a challenge. I will give it my best.
:51:59. > :52:12.They net in 2005, a decade on, here they are in 2014. And I'm joined by
:52:13. > :52:18.somebody who watched that game. Yes, Andy was just breaking through
:52:19. > :52:21.into the professional ranks. Could you have imagined that he
:52:22. > :52:27.would have gone on to do what he has done?
:52:28. > :52:32.When you look promising juniors, you never really know what will happen.
:52:33. > :52:36.But if you look back at those results, 2005, what he did, there
:52:37. > :52:43.was a chance he would be on the tour. But no guarantees that he
:52:44. > :52:49.would do what he has done in the last few years, exceeded
:52:50. > :52:53.everybody's expectations. You must be delighted that so many
:52:54. > :53:01.British players have got wildcards this year. It certainly helps them
:53:02. > :53:05.financially. Yes, when everybody gets together on
:53:06. > :53:13.the committee, the All-England Club, thoughts go into it. The prize money
:53:14. > :53:20.is obviously big. But for the likes of Evans, Ward, it is important they
:53:21. > :53:26.get the opportunity. They have shown they can be top 100 players and
:53:27. > :53:34.raise their game. For the other guys, lower down the rankings, who
:53:35. > :53:41.rehear less about, Edmonds, Smith, -- we hear, it is really a chance
:53:42. > :53:49.for them to do something for the rest of the year.
:53:50. > :53:56.A Slovenian player saying he would like to be British for the Davis
:53:57. > :53:59.Cup. That has provoked a bit of a reaction, some players saying, you
:54:00. > :54:06.cannot come in and be British in the blink of an eye. But he has lived
:54:07. > :54:08.here five years. In many sports there is a cosmopolitan array
:54:09. > :54:14.representing countries. Your thoughts?
:54:15. > :54:18.There will be split opinions. The rules allow players to change
:54:19. > :54:25.nations within the rules and timelines. The first step for him,
:54:26. > :54:31.he has made a choice to live here and apply for citizenship, that is
:54:32. > :54:35.obviously a long road, we will cross the Davis Cup bridge when there is
:54:36. > :54:40.that option. But you would pick him?
:54:41. > :54:44.I am not in a position to say right now. It would be a discussion with
:54:45. > :54:48.everybody else and if they felt comfortable with it we would tackle
:54:49. > :54:53.them. What do you think of Andy Murray's
:54:54. > :54:59.performance? He is back on his best surface and
:55:00. > :55:05.looking calm and focused. He looks very comfortable.
:55:06. > :55:14.Quickly, finally, it is early days, but what are we to make at this
:55:15. > :55:17.stage of the coach appointment? Whenever he has changed coaches his
:55:18. > :55:22.results have improved on the back of it. She is a good person and was a
:55:23. > :55:28.great champion. It is a trial period and I hope it works out well for
:55:29. > :55:32.them, it is a good choice. I am sure that she was absolutely
:55:33. > :55:38.delighted with the way he started yesterday. In tremendous form, he
:55:39. > :55:44.must just keep raising the level throughout the week.
:55:45. > :55:50.He was very compact and did not appear as if anything was bothering
:55:51. > :56:00.him physically. He takes to dress like a dock to water. -- grass.
:56:01. > :56:07.Radek Stepanek has beaten great players. He might not have the legs
:56:08. > :56:15.anymore but he is certainly no pushover.
:56:16. > :56:31.And he will love this occasion. He has won Davis cups, played in
:56:32. > :56:36.deciding robbers. -- rubbers. A very smart tactician. Andy Murray will be
:56:37. > :56:44.favourite but if he is not at his best it could be awkward.
:56:45. > :57:03.If he does not serve well, Murray's return will be commending. --, and,
:57:04. > :57:13.he does not have a massive serve that will cause all sorts of
:57:14. > :57:19.problems. That is the problem he presents.
:57:20. > :57:24.Otherwise, straightforward. As far as it yesterday is concerned
:57:25. > :57:39.down the line from Andy was a thing of beauty.
:57:40. > :57:48.That to me is one of his mainstays. We saw glimpses of it yesterday.
:57:49. > :57:58.Very confident. The good grass court players, it does not take them long
:57:59. > :58:05.to adjust. He was clean hitting. It is just about fine tuning. And in
:58:06. > :58:13.terms of movement, no signs of problems?
:58:14. > :58:25.Exactly. He will be thrilled with the weather, allowing him to get out
:58:26. > :58:40.here, it is not conditions when you rule a hamstring or a groin. --
:58:41. > :58:47.pull. It should be straightforward but
:58:48. > :58:54.Radek Stepanek is dangerous. Over to our commentators. A busy
:58:55. > :59:02.afternoon. Yes, but finally Andy Murray and the
:59:03. > :59:07.Radek Stepanek are on court. Just about ready to get underway. They
:59:08. > :59:19.have played six times before, Murray has taken five. Stepanek with his
:59:20. > :59:27.victory back in 2005. That was the year Andy Murray came to prominence
:59:28. > :59:42.having just turned 18. Stepanek was the 14th seed at the time. Andy
:59:43. > :59:45.Murray went on and lost to Nalbandian in five sets, down to his
:59:46. > :59:54.stamina at the time, still just a boy. He said that recently he was
:59:55. > :00:00.still not physically at his best, even though he came through a couple
:00:01. > :00:14.of good five set matches, but what an athlete he is. As usual, his
:00:15. > :00:30.player box is full to bursting. Three significant women in his
:00:31. > :00:41.life. Judy is not here. And Centre Court is near enough fuel for this.
:00:42. > :01:08.-- full. Stepanek has been playing a lot of doubles. I wonder if Stepanek
:01:09. > :01:38.can trouble Andy Murray? C. -- let us see.
:01:39. > :02:01.Wow, OK, that is a statement of intent. A 96 mph forehand.
:02:02. > :02:09.Interesting that Stepanek was serving and volleying them. That is
:02:10. > :02:11.a good play. He will have do do that occasionally. He would not get away
:02:12. > :02:48.with doing it constantly. This surface just highlights Murray
:02:49. > :03:00.is back and more than any other. It is so solid. -- Marek -- Murray's
:03:01. > :03:09.backhand. She can play the slice, which is one of his best shot is
:03:10. > :03:15.really. These skidding action is accentuated by the grasscourt. He
:03:16. > :03:17.gained a lot from that. When he loads up on the two hander, it can
:03:18. > :03:47.be devastating. Murray is already looking strong.
:03:48. > :03:53.Such a good return of the ball. The first game, first break point. He
:03:54. > :03:56.was so alert after hitting that passing shot. He was ready for any
:03:57. > :04:30.shot, Stepanek. Again, Stepanek thought Murray would
:04:31. > :04:37.go down the line but Murray had other ideas. That last point
:04:38. > :04:43.illustrates the worry that Stepanek's camp must have for him
:04:44. > :04:50.here. Although he is a great athlete and solid with his follies, he does
:04:51. > :04:54.not stick the volleys very often. Against a lot of players, that would
:04:55. > :05:00.have been a commanding shot, but against a player who moves as well
:05:01. > :05:02.as Andy Murray, it is not enough. What an opener for Andy Murray,
:05:03. > :06:13.breaking in the first game. Stepanek parried the slice well that
:06:14. > :06:14.time. But I am not sure that the odds are that great that he will be
:06:15. > :06:52.able to do it time and again. That was better from Stepanek. A
:06:53. > :07:38.couple of nice forehands from Stepanek in this game.
:07:39. > :07:49.And untouchable 1-2 from Murray. When Murray can open up the court
:07:50. > :08:54.like that, the world is his oyster. Abe Abe right start from Andy Murray
:08:55. > :09:00.and then a couple of faults. A very slow second serve by his normal
:09:01. > :09:14.standards. The speed gun did not record it.
:09:15. > :09:26.That is great play from Radek Stepanek. It's that and we are all
:09:27. > :09:31.square again. Stepanek would like to follow this point up with more of
:09:32. > :09:44.the same. As you can see, he gets around the court so beautifully. He
:09:45. > :10:48.doesn't give Murray and easy time. A break apiece.
:10:49. > :10:54.Stepanek has hit the forehand approach shot as well as I have ever
:10:55. > :11:00.seen him do it. It really has been traffic, this one. That is a shot
:11:01. > :11:03.which can often go awry, but certainly not today. -- it really
:11:04. > :11:38.has been to refix. Stepanek was looking at the mark
:11:39. > :12:11.almost in disbelief. Nice plaything from Murray here. -- nice placing.
:12:12. > :12:31.Very sound overhead, both with the smash and the serve.
:12:32. > :12:39.He corrected himself and it was a winner. Apart from that one
:12:40. > :12:47.blistering return from Andy Murray, that was a very solid game indeed
:12:48. > :12:51.from Radek Stepanek. Exactly right. It just goes to show you that
:12:52. > :12:56.matches are not won on paper. You have to come out and finish the job
:12:57. > :13:01.and Radek Stepanek has ignored a lot of the people who thought, he
:13:02. > :13:10.doesn't quite have the firepower to combat Andy Murray. Stepanek has
:13:11. > :13:14.come out, established his old stall game -- old school game, and his
:13:15. > :13:15.grips really come out, established his old stall
:13:16. > :13:26.game -- old school game, are old school, he has a shake and grip, but
:13:27. > :13:31.gosh he has controlled it well. And a player of some calibre. He is
:13:32. > :13:37.still in the top 40s in the world aged 35. Part of a Davis Cup winning
:13:38. > :13:45.side last November. He won the decisive rapper -- rubber. That was
:13:46. > :13:49.in Belgrade. He likes the big occasion. He will enjoy playing
:13:50. > :13:57.here. He enjoys Queen's and to be a against Andy Murray. He has not
:13:58. > :14:04.dropped a set jet in his two previous matches, so he is still in
:14:05. > :14:05.fine fettle. Despite losing that first service game, he has looked
:14:06. > :14:26.very impressive. Andy Murray is just playing a bit of
:14:27. > :14:38.wall tennis. Right above a microphone!
:14:39. > :14:43.It does take a little bit of time for people to get in here. A huge
:14:44. > :15:37.crowd. Murray to serve. That was well worked. He is just
:15:38. > :15:48.carving him up. This Challenger, a step up from the previous round of
:15:49. > :15:55.Paul Henry Mathieu. Certainly in times of guile. That was a great
:15:56. > :16:01.play. As soon as he saw that Murray might hit a defensive shot, he moved
:16:02. > :16:03.inside the baseline and when the ball was a bit floaty, he came in
:16:04. > :16:26.and took it out of the air. Oh, that was a chance. Let's see how
:16:27. > :17:01.close that was. Oh, yes. Two can play that game. I
:17:02. > :17:14.think we might be in for some entertainment here. Do you now? I am
:17:15. > :17:25.often wrong, mind. Perhaps not this time.
:17:26. > :18:15.Murray holds but enough signs there to give Stepanek encouragement.
:18:16. > :18:20.You were talking beforehand about the Stepanek serve, because it is
:18:21. > :18:27.not massively powerful, but it can be quite a weapon. You are right. He
:18:28. > :18:28.does not hit it with a huge amount of power, but he places it so
:18:29. > :18:57.precisely. Oh, brilliant stuff! High quality
:18:58. > :19:14.play from both. Murray has such good anticipation.
:19:15. > :19:16.He C, OK, I am dead careful. Start running. He picked the overhead but
:19:17. > :19:52.could not time it. Too long, this time. That was a
:19:53. > :19:55.great response from Murray. Rather than trying to drive the ball off
:19:56. > :20:00.the drop shot, just dumped it over the net, forced Stepanek to hit that
:20:01. > :20:52.long volley of his ankles. A great knowledge of where to be on
:20:53. > :20:56.the court. Struck in his points very well. --/ chewing his points very
:20:57. > :22:08.well. A good hold for Stepanek again. And
:22:09. > :22:14.impressive start by Radek Stepanek. I have two say that. I didn't think
:22:15. > :22:18.he had much of a chance coming into this match. I didn't think he'd have
:22:19. > :22:23.the power off of the ground or the consistency to bother Murray from
:22:24. > :22:28.the back of the court, but Stepanek has really not put a foot wrong. He
:22:29. > :22:33.has been consistent from the back of the court. Whenever he is given an
:22:34. > :22:37.opportunity, he is taking short balls, coming into the net. Being
:22:38. > :22:48.very effective with the drop volleys. Talking about his doubles
:22:49. > :22:55.partnership, with his partner 51 next week, as long as you have got
:22:56. > :22:59.now is around the court, you can do it at a certain age playing doubles.
:23:00. > :23:07.They won the US Open title last year. Oh, yes. Stepanek is a great
:23:08. > :23:17.doubles player and his game and style of play is well suited to the
:23:18. > :23:28.doubles game. He serves very well. A compact return of serve. Consistent
:23:29. > :23:39.follies. And quickness. Still a very fit man. But, over five set, Andy
:23:40. > :23:45.Murray might have youth on his side. In the best of three set, Andy --
:23:46. > :23:47.Radek Stepanek has every chance here.
:23:48. > :24:50.Another great approach shot. Inch perfect.
:24:51. > :25:27.He has given Stepanek half an opening.
:25:28. > :25:33.That was a big opportunity. The court was there for him. One of the
:25:34. > :25:44.few forehands he has missed two days.
:25:45. > :26:01.You can see that Murray is grappling a little bit with the sun in the out
:26:02. > :26:05.parts of court. He obviously did a nice job of adapting to it full is
:26:06. > :26:08.not I don't think it will be an issue for much longer, as it lowers
:26:09. > :26:49.in the sky. The crowd are doing their bit. Never
:26:50. > :26:58.a raucous crowd here at Queen's, but supporting all the same. Did you say
:26:59. > :27:07.another raucous crowd? No, never a raucous crowd.
:27:08. > :27:32.Oh, that is fantastic from Murray. To get there, but then to pick the
:27:33. > :27:39.angle. I wonder if Stepanek was an disappointing -- anticipating the
:27:40. > :27:48.shot up the line here. I guess we won't see. Certainly a nicely played
:27:49. > :27:55.shot. He just didn't quite get the purchase of the grass. So, Murray
:27:56. > :28:46.holds. Here is the test for Stepanek. The
:28:47. > :28:52.top guys are used to playing with a huge amount of intensity for hours
:28:53. > :28:58.and hours. They do it every day. The lesser players do not last as long.
:28:59. > :29:08.Mentally, they do not have the same amount of stamina.
:29:09. > :29:14.Can Stepanek maintain the incredibly high level of focus, concentration,
:29:15. > :29:16.whatever he has come out with both. Can he keep that up for an extended
:29:17. > :29:39.period of time? A view more of those and we will see
:29:40. > :29:41.his first serve percentage rising. Those are long shoelaces. Double not
:29:42. > :30:52.around there. Justice on the loose ones from Andy
:30:53. > :31:01.Murray. Radek Stepanek moves on. Andy Murray is going for victory
:31:02. > :31:12.number 20 in a row on grass. Wimbledon, Queen's before that, he
:31:13. > :31:26.has not been beaten for some time. Although still some way behind the
:31:27. > :31:32.best, Federer was up there. But it is still impressive, his
:31:33. > :31:38.grass court form, and that will count for a lot.
:31:39. > :31:44.Everybody expects him to be here today, tomorrow, the day after, for
:31:45. > :31:50.them to watch. But that brings its own pressures. He is used to dealing
:31:51. > :31:59.with that. It will only increase as the defending champion.
:32:00. > :32:08.I think that he has dealt with those pressures for long enough that he's
:32:09. > :32:12.probably quite comfortable with it, it is just something he takes for
:32:13. > :32:19.granted, a part of doing business, a part of being successful.
:32:20. > :32:28.Amelie Mauresmo, the coach, a grass court appointment. Andy wants her to
:32:29. > :32:35.be there for a long time, but quite a commitment on a coach's Park, 25
:32:36. > :32:41.weeks per year was what his previous coach did, and a big commitment from
:32:42. > :32:52.her to say, I will be out onto a resume for a long time. -- on tour.
:32:53. > :33:28.Yes, the life you have developed and are comfortable with? Will it stop!
:33:29. > :34:18.Stepanek treating the Murray serve with disdain.
:34:19. > :34:26.Much better, and it has to be, because he is feeling the squeeze a
:34:27. > :34:28.little bit. Life is so much nicer when
