:00:47. > :00:57.It is factory for Feliciano Lopez. The Number 10 seed is through. That
:00:58. > :01:06.is a great when for Feliciano Lopez. -- great win. That will back up that
:01:07. > :01:13.great win against Andy Murray. He defeats Kevin Anderson. Another
:01:14. > :01:22.upset. Radek Stepanek takes down the bigger man. That he finishes with a
:01:23. > :01:27.flourish. One of the brightest talents in the game, moving through
:01:28. > :01:37.at the expense of James Ward, who was gallant and competitive but not
:01:38. > :01:43.good enough. And that is it. Stanislas Wawrinka dismisses him in
:01:44. > :01:51.straight sets to set up a glorious semifinal. The top seed in
:01:52. > :01:59.Australia. He marches through in straight sets. It has not been the
:02:00. > :02:03.best start at the Queen's Club and we had the first rain this morning
:02:04. > :02:06.but I am pleased to say we are due to start on time and it is semifinal
:02:07. > :02:09.day on a cracking day of sport with to start on time and it is semifinal
:02:10. > :02:15.day on a rugby this morning all the way through to the football tonight.
:02:16. > :02:19.And it is also here on BBC One. Here is the semifinal line-up this
:02:20. > :02:22.afternoon. We have got Stanislas Wawrinka, the top seed, the
:02:23. > :02:31.Australian Open champion, against Grigor Dimitrov. He is a champion in
:02:32. > :02:35.waiting, it would appear. Then Feliciano Lopez, 32 years old,
:02:36. > :02:43.against Radek Stepanek, and even older 35. He has beaten Andy Murray.
:02:44. > :02:45.The weather has affected raptors but I'm pleased to say that both
:02:46. > :02:50.Stanislas Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov have got there is out of
:02:51. > :02:54.the way before the rain came down. Here is Stanislas Wawrinka, looking
:02:55. > :03:00.relaxed. In tremendous form. And Grigor Dimitrov, he has been going
:03:01. > :03:05.up the right things every year. New coach, new training regime and this
:03:06. > :03:07.is what he does every day to get ready. And we will be watching him
:03:08. > :03:08.very soon on Centre Court. ready. And we will be watching him
:03:09. > :03:14.Dimitrov against Stanislas Wawrinka. ready. And we will be watching him
:03:15. > :03:19.We are at the Queen's Club and what that place this to mention that
:03:20. > :03:23.those from Tennessee have been given awards in the birthday Honours list.
:03:24. > :03:42.Congratulations to ball Hopkins, will be you. Inventor of the
:03:43. > :03:50.Hawk-Eye technology. -- OBE. On Godfrey, MBE. And congratulations to
:03:51. > :03:54.Barbara Slater from the BBC, she was a big part of the coverage for many
:03:55. > :04:03.years and she is the director of BBC sport. Well done to all of those.
:04:04. > :04:13.You missed out again? We did miss that letter. You have got one? MBE.
:04:14. > :04:18.Yes. That was eight years ago. You must keep it secret? You cannot tell
:04:19. > :04:25.anybody for about three months. You must have been going mad? I told my
:04:26. > :04:30.mother. Looking forward to today, this weather, this was not
:04:31. > :04:38.particularly forecast but it certainly will change the court? We
:04:39. > :04:41.do not have Andy Murray but we have got phenomenal grass court matches,
:04:42. > :04:46.three grass court experts. And got phenomenal grass court matches,
:04:47. > :04:51.who is trying to find his way there, Stanislas Wawrinka, who could
:04:52. > :04:52.who is trying to find his way there, potentially be fabulous. The other
:04:53. > :05:00.three players look like they were born to play on grass, Feliciano
:05:01. > :05:04.three players look like they were Dimitrov. If you look at Stanislas
:05:05. > :05:10.Wawrinka, who came here after very disappointing clay court season
:05:11. > :05:15.after Monte Carlo. He needed those matches and he has been getting
:05:16. > :05:21.better. After Monte Carlo, just winning one match. Great to play
:05:22. > :05:26.this after losing to Feliciano Lopez in the French Open. But when he gets
:05:27. > :05:33.into the tournament, he plays his way into top form. At Wimbledon he
:05:34. > :05:36.has done nothing, he's primed to do so but getting these matches here
:05:37. > :05:42.has been huge for him and he benefited from the draw earlier on.
:05:43. > :05:48.That did not serve his purpose at all. But Baghdatis might have given
:05:49. > :05:52.them a very hard time. He is in the tournament and he should be the
:05:53. > :05:57.favourite to win. When you look at his record and what he has done, you
:05:58. > :06:02.can only look at the last 18 months. He has become a very different
:06:03. > :06:04.player, he made that rate through and he is the potential grand slam
:06:05. > :06:12.winner, he achieved that in Australia. He did, sometimes I think
:06:13. > :06:18.that the coaches get too much credit but in this case, Magnus Norman, as
:06:19. > :06:23.with Ivan Lendl, he deserves all of that because he turned Stanislas
:06:24. > :06:29.Wawrinka from a very good player and dangerous, top 20, average top ten,
:06:30. > :06:38.into this grand slam winner. He would not have one that grand slam
:06:39. > :06:42.without Magnus Norman in his corner. I do not think he still believes
:06:43. > :06:48.that he is the grand slam winner, around the court he still does not
:06:49. > :06:53.have that order. Maybe another great run here, perhaps he will start
:06:54. > :06:58.believing that he is a very good player. It must be a shock to the
:06:59. > :07:08.system, you are launched into this, overtaking Roger Federer, becoming
:07:09. > :07:16.the Swiss number one. Where does the leaf and understanding in the game
:07:17. > :07:22.and looking in the mirror, do you see the champion or top 20, I do not
:07:23. > :07:25.know where that comes from. But what John was saying about Magnus Norman,
:07:26. > :07:32.they got together in a small tournament in Portugal last year and
:07:33. > :07:35.in the first round, he lost the first set and he was just nowhere.
:07:36. > :07:41.But he managed to grind that victory. Working with Magnus for
:07:42. > :07:45.just two weeks at that point and he did win that match without playing
:07:46. > :07:51.well but he just carved his way through the rest of the tournament.
:07:52. > :07:55.He said, that was the moment. You never know when things will click.
:07:56. > :08:02.When you have somebody in the camp that does respect you and gets the
:08:03. > :08:09.job done, what a wonderful feeling that is, especially at this stage.
:08:10. > :08:13.When you talk about being the grand slam champion, having to adjust and
:08:14. > :08:18.the amount of tension, Stanislas Wawrinka does not seek out
:08:19. > :08:24.attention, he is a tennis player. Set for life. He has been rewarded
:08:25. > :08:29.for his achievements. Hopefully he will settle in and of a very good
:08:30. > :08:38.Wimbledon. And his backhand is the best. -- and have a very good
:08:39. > :08:48.Wimbledon. Also, his serving. Stanislas Wawrinka, coming out
:08:49. > :08:54.first, the top seed. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the
:08:55. > :09:00.Australian Open champion and the number one seed, Stanislas Wawrinka.
:09:01. > :09:08.And what a very good moment for the mascot coming on. Helping the
:09:09. > :09:17.champion onto the court. Wonderful moment for him. These muskets are
:09:18. > :09:29.very big tennis fans. Here comes Ryan with Grigor Dimitrov. Both have
:09:30. > :09:32.been suffering with leukaemia but they are now in remission, which is
:09:33. > :09:40.great news. Hopefully they are enjoying today. Getting onto Centre
:09:41. > :09:46.Court with the stars. They could be going well into the second week at
:09:47. > :09:53.Wimbledon! Absolutely right. I love Ryan's are! He is going to stay
:09:54. > :10:03.there! They could offer some coaching advice! They need some good
:10:04. > :10:10.news and I am sure there is a lot more ahead. Turning attention to
:10:11. > :10:15.Grigor Dimitrov. That is just enjoy these pictures, we talk about the
:10:16. > :10:19.backhand of Stanislas Wawrinka, who could take the entire game from
:10:20. > :10:22.Grigor Dimitrov. Absolutely, Stanislas Wawrinka in the press
:10:23. > :10:25.conference talking about Grigor Dimitrov and he said the game was
:10:26. > :10:32.tailor-made for the grass. Absolutely right, he just sort of
:10:33. > :10:39.floats. He makes it look easy, but he always has an extra second before
:10:40. > :10:44.hitting the ball, it is crafted beautifully. He glides around the
:10:45. > :10:49.court. He is a joy to watch. I hope that he wins a grand slam before
:10:50. > :10:55.long because he would be the crossover star without question
:10:56. > :10:59.because he does get what it is like off court. He just needs the grand
:11:00. > :11:05.slam title. He will become a superstar. We have been spoiled for
:11:06. > :11:11.choice at the top of the game. With superstar is a no hard to deliver
:11:12. > :11:18.interviews and everything else. Let us listen. After the coin toss, we
:11:19. > :11:27.shall do some pictures with the kids. You will serve? Have a good
:11:28. > :11:40.match. All right. Stanislas Wawrinka will be serving. No! Staring at each
:11:41. > :11:48.other. Big smile! And another photograph. Grigor Dimitrov knew
:11:49. > :11:53.just where those cameras where! Which is where he is. That is it,
:11:54. > :11:58.brilliant. Enjoy the rest of the day.
:11:59. > :12:04.We were talking earlier about watching him doing his warm up and
:12:05. > :12:12.his coach, he said yesterday just how tough Roger was in his practice
:12:13. > :12:17.session. He is courtside. Roger is here. Before we talk about Grigor
:12:18. > :12:23.Dimitrov, what impact will the weather change have? Not much, the
:12:24. > :12:29.covers were not of four along, it looks pretty pure. No impact. The
:12:30. > :12:32.studio has been talking about Grigor Dimitrov as one of those players
:12:33. > :12:36.people have been talking about for a very long time and it seems, at
:12:37. > :12:46.last, that promise is coming to fruition. How far is he? About 25%
:12:47. > :12:51.into his development, the profile we have tried to create around him,
:12:52. > :12:58.where he came from and what I thought was missing, but was a lot.
:12:59. > :13:05.Specific? Single child from a country with no players developing
:13:06. > :13:10.or pushing them. Going out of different academies and countries,
:13:11. > :13:19.no legitimate structure around his talent and he needs to be led very
:13:20. > :13:25.hard. He knows what is required of him physically. I looked at his
:13:26. > :13:28.young body, there were some issues, I had to turn him into a senior
:13:29. > :13:31.profile and understand what I had to turn him into a senior
:13:32. > :13:38.commitment was with every ball. What is it worth? He has been getting
:13:39. > :13:42.commitment was with every ball. What schooled in the game of tennis and
:13:43. > :13:49.what he can do. And how much talent do you need? How many tours? Just
:13:50. > :13:50.understanding the game. When you say young body and making it mature, are
:13:51. > :13:55.we talking about working young body and making it mature, are
:13:56. > :14:03.or the court? Is a lot of young body and making it mature, are
:14:04. > :14:10.properly, using your assets. And at certain times. But then the physical
:14:11. > :14:15.side, he did cram a lot into three matches. He has to get stronger,
:14:16. > :14:21.physically. That is very typical of Andy Murray, five years ago, looking
:14:22. > :14:26.at him now. Once you get that stronger body, and he has just
:14:27. > :14:30.started, he will great -- get a great physique. Building more
:14:31. > :14:38.confidence in what he can do, stability wise. You did work with
:14:39. > :14:47.Gael Monfils, he had a reputation, is he different? Yes, different
:14:48. > :14:49.character, and then there are different skill sets, but different
:14:50. > :14:59.characters. This kid came to me very different skill sets, but different
:15:00. > :15:05.strong and I said, what you want to be? Honestly. And when he said he
:15:06. > :15:12.wanted to be the best in the world, that means you are prepared to
:15:13. > :15:15.wanted to be the best in the world, cannibal, and that will mean there
:15:16. > :15:19.are a lot of doors to open and he has wanted to do that. It has
:15:20. > :15:23.are a lot of doors to open and he the policy, once he has bought into
:15:24. > :15:28.the good product. And can he be? Down the track, for sure. Everybody
:15:29. > :15:33.has been waiting for him to do things and he has been winning some
:15:34. > :15:37.tournaments, second round, second week in a major Championship. As
:15:38. > :15:43.long as his commitment is there, every day. When we watch games like
:15:44. > :15:48.this, looking at Jose Mourinho on the bench at Chelsea, writing notes.
:15:49. > :15:55.You just watch. Do you have the bench at Chelsea, writing notes.
:15:56. > :16:01.that mentally stories those key moments and then analyses them? Hard
:16:02. > :16:13.is that the brief work? I can tell you every point. -- how does that.
:16:14. > :16:17.There are times when I will have myself with a microphone, nobody can
:16:18. > :16:23.see that, but I will record things. When you watch the match, you can be
:16:24. > :16:29.in the moment and you might see something and I do like to talk to
:16:30. > :16:32.myself. I am not not so! Or maybe I am. And then I will Murray that
:16:33. > :16:36.vision up. You might have been excited. When you look at the
:16:37. > :16:42.vision, he perhaps made the right decision. You can Murray that. It is
:16:43. > :16:50.a right information at the right time. Fascinating. Yesterday, that
:16:51. > :16:58.walkover, was that a blessing in disguise? That was good training for
:16:59. > :17:03.me. I would rather play the match, to be honest. The more matches you
:17:04. > :17:06.can play on the grass at the Queen's Club in front of this crowd, but
:17:07. > :17:13.it's important when looking towards Wimbledon. Just get out there. I
:17:14. > :17:17.pushed him very hard. It was tougher than any match, he was pushed to
:17:18. > :17:26.some extremes. And he had some challenges on the court. Piggy. Very
:17:27. > :17:35.interesting from Roger. His fourth semifinal of the year. Interesting,
:17:36. > :17:42.he says that 25% is where he is. Long way to go! He talks about the
:17:43. > :17:45.talent and he is right, when you have as much talent as Grigor
:17:46. > :17:50.Dimitrov, it is about using the right shots at the right time. In
:17:51. > :17:55.the era we were in, winning two different Grand Slams, he should
:17:56. > :18:00.have won another six or seven because he often picked the wrong
:18:01. > :18:05.shot. There was too much choice. As Roger said, Grigor Dimitrov is just
:18:06. > :18:10.trying to pick the right shot at the right time. But is learning the
:18:11. > :18:16.game. Everybody has to arrive at that and if you do not know what the
:18:17. > :18:24.gamers, your own pupil will not. It was like what we were talking about
:18:25. > :18:30.yesterday. It is about learning the game. Some people will say, I have
:18:31. > :18:36.the coaching certificate, but for that true understanding, you must be
:18:37. > :18:43.like a Formula One car. This is what Grigor Dimitrov really is. Tiny,
:18:44. > :18:49.fine shinning. Interesting, his coach used to coach Grigor Dimitrov,
:18:50. > :18:54.so he is coaching his former pupil. We will set back and enjoy this. The
:18:55. > :19:21.first semifinal of the AEGON Championships.
:19:22. > :19:27.This dataset, we're ready for the first semifinal. And very
:19:28. > :19:34.interesting. Stanislas Wawrinka is a very new man, this surface has not
:19:35. > :19:42.been his best but this is relative. Since he did linkup with Magnus
:19:43. > :19:47.Norman, he just changed a few things and he has really kicked into the
:19:48. > :19:56.top ten. Grigor Dimitrov, 25% of his potential! He has made steady
:19:57. > :20:01.progress every year. Perhaps he does have a very long way to go. He is a
:20:02. > :20:08.formidable opponent for the number one seed, Stanislas Wawrinka. And he
:20:09. > :20:13.did serve well yesterday against 54 and -- against Matosevic. And he
:20:14. > :20:32.will serve to start this semifinal. Well... That was not the start he
:20:33. > :21:07.was hoping for. OK, enough of that serve and volley
:21:08. > :21:12.stuff. He did not face one single break point yesterday against
:21:13. > :21:13.Matosevic. That was some achievement. He has not been broken
:21:14. > :21:44.yet. The sun has returned. It is cooler
:21:45. > :22:23.today in that breeze. Grigor Dimitrov attempting larger
:22:24. > :22:31.slice, all and was called for, I would guess. And he misheard that.
:22:32. > :22:41.Looking at just how impressive he has been, Stanislas Wawrinka.
:22:42. > :22:42.Serving, particularly. The only player left in the Championship who
:22:43. > :23:06.has not been broken. All week. You could say that is the area that
:23:07. > :23:13.Stanislas Wawrinka has improved the most end. Over the last year. He was
:23:14. > :23:54.used to throwing some bad service games with unforced errors.
:23:55. > :24:05.But was a late call, but it was a good one. -- that was.
:24:06. > :24:38.Both players looking at these in their opening service games. -- at
:24:39. > :24:48.ease. Stanislas Wawrinka, the number one
:24:49. > :24:52.seed, he is playing the wildcard, after his late exit during the
:24:53. > :25:38.French Open. Ominous signs for Grigor Dimitrov,
:25:39. > :25:42.Stanislas Wawrinka is firing pretty hard, pretty early. This is an
:25:43. > :25:47.illustration of how that hard, pretty early. This is an
:25:48. > :25:52.he could completely break that volley. Grigor Dimitrov has said
:25:53. > :26:01.that he must keep his return low. Pretty quickfire. Just over one
:26:02. > :26:18.minute to come through that one. This is very late in his career, he
:26:19. > :26:27.had that one short spell inside the top ten back in 2008 and then he
:26:28. > :26:31.drifted away. And he is inside the top four players, number three in
:26:32. > :26:35.the world. And he says that those changes he has made under Magnus
:26:36. > :26:38.Norman are not big, perhaps his forehand, most of all. Just
:26:39. > :26:43.Norman are not big, perhaps his slightly. And that has made the
:26:44. > :26:47.world of difference. Little changes can make a very big difference to
:26:48. > :26:52.his standing. Let us face it, he was a great player already. And
:26:53. > :26:53.certainly, technically, there was not much to change.
:26:54. > :26:59.certainly, technically, there was already had that great backhand. And
:27:00. > :27:06.just about that great forehand as well. But micro-if you make just a
:27:07. > :27:06.little change, with your approach to each match, with respect live, and
:27:07. > :27:14.how you can think on the court, each match, with respect live, and
:27:15. > :27:21.there is Magnus Norman... What a great coach he has become. This
:27:22. > :27:27.wrong with Stanislas Wawrinka has been golden. He did start to have
:27:28. > :27:34.just a little slump on the clay and that has culminated in that first
:27:35. > :27:47.round exit in the French Open. He lost to Lopez. People do not talk
:27:48. > :27:51.about this vertigo concept. You will go just so high in the rankings and
:27:52. > :27:58.achieve so much, and it becomes uncomfortable. Expectations become
:27:59. > :28:10.greater. People treat you differently.
:28:11. > :28:16.It does take time to become accustomed to the new environment
:28:17. > :28:23.and a lot of players do not. They just drop back down. OK, this feels
:28:24. > :28:29.better again! This is not a conscious thing. It is subconscious.
:28:30. > :28:39.Everybody would like to stay at the top.
:28:40. > :28:45.It takes a special breed to say, I am better than everybody. How many
:28:46. > :29:44.people think like that? A good serving from Gregory
:29:45. > :29:48.Demetrios. -- Grigor Dimitrov. Different conditions to get used to
:29:49. > :29:50.today, there is a heaviness in the air and there was heavy rain last
:29:51. > :30:17.night and this morning. APPLAUSE. I think the crowd were
:30:18. > :30:22.urging Grigor Dimitrov to win that point after that return, but
:30:23. > :30:41.Stanislas Wawrinka is slowly imposing himself.
:30:42. > :31:22.That was an ambitious attempt to say the least.
:31:23. > :31:50.Is there to be something here for Grigor Dimitrov?
:31:51. > :32:04.It is wide. Now this is a man who faced not a single break point
:32:05. > :32:18.yesterday against Matosevic. Grigor Dimitrov has two break points.
:32:19. > :32:43.Very good work. Rubinho and with that single-handed backhand.
:32:44. > :32:50.Stanislas Wawrinka is still up to the task. Still break point. Watch
:32:51. > :33:18.out! Just could not quite get enough on
:33:19. > :33:26.that shot. Stanislas Wawrinka saves it. They have just done himself and
:33:27. > :33:49.Miss chief in the process. -- may have just -- mistress. He may have
:33:50. > :33:59.jammed himself in the foot. -- mischief. Grigor Dimitrov is so
:34:00. > :34:57.graceful. He does as well on grass as anyone in the game.
:34:58. > :35:13.At full stretch, perfect balance, somehow managed to control that
:35:14. > :35:46.shot. It forced Stanislas Wawrinka to half-volley. Going to have to
:35:47. > :35:54.face break point again. They are powerful movers, Rafa Nadal, Andy
:35:55. > :35:59.Murray, they are examples of that. The more graceful ones, like Roger
:36:00. > :36:09.Federer Canberra -- Roger Federer, Stephane Edinburg... -- Stefan
:36:10. > :36:22.Edberg. Finally! Finally put away by
:36:23. > :36:24.Stanislas Wawrinka! He did an nice job of keeping the ball low,
:36:25. > :36:35.Stanislas Wawrinka that is, up job of keeping the ball low,
:36:36. > :36:50.the very last. Pop it up and see you.
:36:51. > :37:02.Once again, to return a powerful first serve
:37:03. > :37:07.right in at the body. It would have flummoxed a lot of players, I am
:37:08. > :37:26.sure. For a fourth time, break point, Grigor Dimitrov. Well, not
:37:27. > :37:30.the Stanislas Wawrinka off yesterday or previous matches. He has been
:37:31. > :37:40.broken and Grigor Dimitrov has the edge in this first set. Looking
:37:41. > :37:41.good, he could blame the ankle injury that he appeared to
:37:42. > :37:46.good, he could blame the ankle suffered, but he was moving well at
:37:47. > :37:50.was. He was so dominant in his serve. You would want to test the
:37:51. > :37:58.outside of the ankle. We only show you that again, because he seems OK
:37:59. > :38:05.afterwards. That would have been a scary moment. He probably felt a
:38:06. > :38:13.little bit of pain and in that instance after you have that
:38:14. > :38:17.problem, you do not know, you do not know, you hope, please do not be
:38:18. > :38:21.bad, you walk it off a little bit, then you think you are OK.
:38:22. > :38:23.bad, you walk it off a little bit, been broken for the first time in
:38:24. > :38:58.this Championship. Tweeting away. He is playing a video game! Grigor
:38:59. > :39:04.Dimitrov. The players have to wait a little bit longer for everyone to
:39:05. > :39:06.settle in. Maria Sharapova is not here today, we are told. He is
:39:07. > :39:32.without his better half. APPLAUSE. On the touch. Maria
:39:33. > :39:40.Sharapova has better things to do, get ready for her assault on
:39:41. > :39:53.Wimbledon herself. How she would like to get around the court the way
:39:54. > :40:06.that Grigor Dimitrov doors. -- does. APPLAUSE. He has got a lot of touch,
:40:07. > :40:22.finesse... APPLAUSE. It is really the
:40:23. > :40:30.athleticism that allows him to stand above the rest on this surface. He
:40:31. > :40:49.makes it look very easy to remain in great balance, but trust me, it is
:40:50. > :41:06.not. That lovely free backhand doing the damage. A comfortable place for
:41:07. > :41:14.Stanislas Wawrinka. APPLAUSE. Again, not much on the
:41:15. > :41:22.server from Grigor Dimitrov for Stanislas Wawrinka. They played
:41:23. > :41:33.doubles these two this week. They won their match. Then they lost to
:41:34. > :41:42.their next one against Daniel Nestor and his partner.
:41:43. > :41:53.They played doubles together before, they just fancied it. Daniel
:41:54. > :42:11.Nestor was on the tour when I was coming up. But defence of work by a
:42:12. > :42:13.Grigor Dimitrov pays off, you can hear him scuffing around -- that
:42:14. > :42:35.defensive work. He is falling all over the place,
:42:36. > :42:37.but no problem. Marvellous stuff, Grigor Dimitrov is rampant at the
:42:38. > :42:59.moment. This is a clinic! It cannot get
:43:00. > :43:32.better than that. Easy enough to save one of the break points. There
:43:33. > :43:41.it is, double break for Grigor Dimitrov. On his way to his first
:43:42. > :43:46.set. I don't think we could have predicted that, Stanislas Wawrinka
:43:47. > :44:00.has been outclassed and outplayed at the moment. He certainly is. Last
:44:01. > :44:05.point. If you watched this last point, see how Stanislas Wawrinka
:44:06. > :44:16.approaches the net. You can see that there is still, perhaps, an area of
:44:17. > :44:23.the game that he could improve upon. Grigor Dimitrov has been superb.
:44:24. > :44:31.Now, Stanislas Wawrinka comes in, takes a split step, fine, but look,
:44:32. > :44:39.where is he? Hello! Down the line pass, you have to guard against it.
:44:40. > :44:46.Or at least make the opponent hit the line. At that time, Stanislas
:44:47. > :44:50.Wawrinka took a chance and guessed that Grigor Dimitrov would hit it
:44:51. > :44:56.Wawrinka took a chance and guessed across the court and that will not
:44:57. > :45:11.cut it. Always nice to see those Lopez has that as well. Radek
:45:12. > :45:20.Stepanek also has that. Grigor Dimitrov with new balls is serving
:45:21. > :45:28.for this first set. A challenge from Stanislas Wawrinka. It is worth a
:45:29. > :45:40.challenge, why not? Very nearly finished with. A good challenge.
:45:41. > :45:41.challenge, why not? Very nearly course it was. Put your hands on
:45:42. > :45:43.your hips all you course it was. Put your hands on
:45:44. > :46:31.Dimitrov, it is out. APPLAUSE. He was doing that once too
:46:32. > :46:40.often. He has been very successful with the drop shot so far, but that
:46:41. > :47:07.time, that was not the situation for him. He has that insurance of a
:47:08. > :47:15.double break but he would not want to give one of them back. I had a
:47:16. > :47:25.very interesting chat with Roger, the coach of Grigor Dimitrov before
:47:26. > :48:23.Now that Stanislas Wawrinka APPLAUSE. Beautiful.
:48:24. > :48:27.Now that Stanislas Wawrinka set, perhaps, has been written off
:48:28. > :48:30.already, he is starting to find a little rhythm. Trying to get one of
:48:31. > :49:41.these breaks back. Grigor Dimitrov has sailed through
:49:42. > :49:44.this set. He is still prone to the odd double fault from time to time.
:49:45. > :50:27.APPLAUSE. Nothing seen off the break points.
:50:28. > :50:39.It is a first set point for Grigor Dimitrov.
:50:40. > :50:49.And there it is. Grigor Dimitrov takes the first set emphatically
:50:50. > :50:58.against the number one seed, six games to two. The sun is shining
:50:59. > :51:07.here at Queen's Club. Wimbledon is not far away. Here they come, so
:51:08. > :51:14.much pressure, so much expectation. It is the title that all the players
:51:15. > :51:18.want to win. These guys are friends off the court, but once they step
:51:19. > :51:26.out there forget it. Hugely exciting. Still gives you goose
:51:27. > :51:30.bumps. It is the greatest cod in the world. What happens at Wimbledon is
:51:31. > :51:47.in credible -- court. Wimbledon gets ready to go away:
:51:48. > :51:52.Monday. Andy Murray will be getting ready to go. We will be at
:51:53. > :52:06.Eastbourne next week as the ladies prepare for the Championship.
:52:07. > :52:11.The sun is beginning to come out and we are set for a fascinating
:52:12. > :52:23.afternoon of tennis. Some nice preparation for Wimbledon
:52:24. > :52:28.as we see a welcome bit of blue sky. Stanislas Wawrinka has not found his
:52:29. > :52:37.way of doing things. He does different things every year. He has
:52:38. > :52:44.played on clay before. He likes to mix it up a little bit. Or he does
:52:45. > :52:47.not know what he is doing, one of the two. He is not a creature of
:52:48. > :52:52.habit in his preparation for Wimbledon. Should he win it one
:52:53. > :52:55.year, then he will probably repeat that the following year. He is up
:52:56. > :53:19.against it here. APPLAUSE. There we go, that is a
:53:20. > :54:27.nice play. What have we here? Bright sunshine!
:54:28. > :54:52.I did not even think to bring my sunglasses today. A good start to
:54:53. > :54:56.the second set. Seating is for Wimbledon will be held early next
:54:57. > :55:00.week and Stanislas Wawrinka is probably going to suffer because of
:55:01. > :55:05.the grass court adjustments that Wimbledon make and he will not be in
:55:06. > :55:16.the top four. It makes things a little bit more tricky. He has shown
:55:17. > :55:22.here this week and on some limited outings that he can do it.
:55:23. > :55:40.Historically, Wimbledon is his weakest game, relatively.
:55:41. > :55:47.Of course, Wimbledon, perhaps fraught with more danger in the
:55:48. > :55:54.early rounds than most of the slams, if not all, simply because the
:55:55. > :56:14.service is... Players are not as used to the surface -- surface. Some
:56:15. > :56:19.guys will come out and serve well. It will put pressure on the top guys
:56:20. > :56:29.in the opening rounds. Once they find their feet, and get a great
:56:30. > :56:31.shot, they have a good chance of making it through to the
:56:32. > :57:01.quarterfinals and the semi-finals. Stanislas Wawrinka set it up as
:57:02. > :57:05.little bit more for him. It was put away beautifully though. Yes. -- a
:57:06. > :57:13.little bit more. He could not have hit those any
:57:14. > :58:08.better than that. There was no reason for Stanislas
:58:09. > :58:12.Wawrinka to flirt with the sideline in that situation. It was mental
:58:13. > :58:47.air. -- there. APPLAUSE. Early on in his career,
:58:48. > :58:52.people were talking about the backhand as being a relative
:58:53. > :59:02.weakness, but if he starts to spray those sorts of winners more often,
:59:03. > :59:03.watch out! 97 mph is the official speed for that backhand we have
:59:04. > :59:46.seen. Tremendous! Wonderful athleticism
:59:47. > :00:06.from Grigor Dimitrov. Give me just a moment while I can
:00:07. > :00:07.recreate that! I will get my chin off the floor! That was
:00:08. > :00:35.spellbinding. Not this time. He is getting to most
:00:36. > :00:37.things. Well, Stanislas Wawrinka has to work just so hard, he has not had
:00:38. > :01:17.to do that this week. Despite the acrobatics of Grigor
:01:18. > :01:25.Dimitrov, Stanislas Wawrinka is holding. This is what the crowd came
:01:26. > :01:29.for. A lot of people would have expected to see Andy Murray. But you
:01:30. > :01:41.will still get entertained by these players. Let us look at this again.
:01:42. > :01:53.Grigor Dimitrov puts in a lot of returns into play. Spectacular. He
:01:54. > :02:01.is demanding. He almost did the splits, there! One of those
:02:02. > :02:04.photographers has got that meant. -- moment. That will be worth some
:02:05. > :02:26.money! He might have to stretch after that
:02:27. > :02:37.one! You could do that when you were 23? I can do that right now!
:02:38. > :02:44.The winner will play the winner of the second semifinal, Feliciano
:02:45. > :02:53.Lopez against Radek Stepanek. Grigor Dimitrov, he has set up his
:02:54. > :03:42.serving. That does not always come off. Yes,
:03:43. > :03:45.I mean, we talk about being six feet behind the baseline. That is asking
:03:46. > :04:38.a lot! Beautiful stuff, the last game.
:04:39. > :04:48.Grigor Dimitrov, rather ugly playwright here to give Stanislas
:04:49. > :05:09.Wawrinka two break points. -- play, right here.
:05:10. > :05:19.Still one more left for the Swiss player.
:05:20. > :05:45.He piled that into one of the officials.
:05:46. > :06:00.To reflect recovery. -- traffic. -- terrific. There are some very dark
:06:01. > :06:19.clouds above my head. That was long. Great work from
:06:20. > :06:28.Grigor Dimitrov. Two different break points, saved.
:06:29. > :06:36.He will not be pleased with how he find himself in that 15-40 position,
:06:37. > :06:38.he donated three points in a row. But Grigor Dimitrov did extremely
:06:39. > :07:55.well. Grigor Dimitrov just having a look.
:07:56. > :07:56.This is the way that Stanislas Wawrinka was playing yesterday
:07:57. > :08:36.against Matosevic. It is the nature of grass court
:08:37. > :08:45.tennis. Much less so than it was 40 years ago. Back then, if you lost
:08:46. > :08:55.concentration for just 45 seconds, this set was virtually over. And the
:08:56. > :09:02.tennis courts are just so good, and the players, there is a lot, well,
:09:03. > :09:05.there is more work to be done to break serve. Often, rallies have
:09:06. > :09:24.been extended. Compare
:09:25. > :09:30.these players. Symmetry. Yes, very similar style. I would say that
:09:31. > :09:38.Stanislas Wawrinka, his grip is just slightly stronger. Therefore, he
:09:39. > :10:15.might be just a little bit more secure. On serve, Grigor Dimitrov...
:10:16. > :10:46.There is this salvo of serves. And an apology from Grigor Dimitrov.
:10:47. > :10:53.This is a pretty good illustration of the difference between these men
:10:54. > :10:58.on this surface. We didn't get see Stanislas Wawrinka slipping
:10:59. > :11:12.awkwardly. When Grigor Dimitrov slept, he looked like he meant it!
:11:13. > :12:10.-- slipped. Roger, he admitted that he does sit there and chats away to
:12:11. > :12:14.himself. The first sign of madness! But his player is looking good here,
:12:15. > :12:19.despite having to come from behind to keep up with Stanislas Wawrinka.
:12:20. > :12:30.And you can see just how windy it is out there, now.
:12:31. > :13:36.-- honed. Stanislas Wawrinka, he looked like you might want to
:13:37. > :13:38.challenge that service call. He was called long and Hawk-Eye shows that
:13:39. > :13:49.he, in fact, should have. There were a couple of times in this
:13:50. > :14:07.match when the players should have challenged. It might be expensive.
:14:08. > :14:25.This is facing the exit door for Stanislas Wawrinka, here.
:14:26. > :14:45.And that was a late call. So, Stanislas Wawrinka will challenge
:14:46. > :14:52.that. And, again, we will go to Hawk-Eye to settle this. Was that
:14:53. > :14:59.out? Stanislas Wawrinka is sitting down. He knows that it was the
:15:00. > :15:09.break. And Grigor Dimitrov is moving towards the final.
:15:10. > :15:15.Well, Stanislas Wawrinka, he has lived so strong in this
:15:16. > :15:21.championship. Today, he has not been at his very best but Grigor Dimitrov
:15:22. > :15:26.has been looking pretty good. Grigor Dimitrov has been looking great, a
:15:27. > :15:31.lot of things that do not seem spectacular are very important on
:15:32. > :15:40.this surface. He puts a lot of balls back into play. Come on, let us play
:15:41. > :15:47.some tennis on your serve. Well, that was after the shot was called
:15:48. > :15:55.wide. But Grigor Dimitrov was in the position to get himself back into
:15:56. > :16:03.that rally. Just putting the balls into play and covering the court.
:16:04. > :16:12.Those are incredibly important assets to have on this surface. So,
:16:13. > :17:09.Grigor Dimitrov, one set to the good and he has the break.
:17:10. > :17:14.Grigor Dimitrov might want to rapidly close this. There is some
:17:15. > :17:51.weather coming in. Stanislas Wawrinka is showing... I
:17:52. > :17:59.am done with that! That was done with a smile. He will administer
:18:00. > :18:08.this violation smiling as well. He did not want to. But, in the end, he
:18:09. > :18:16.had to. I will take that and just enjoy this!
:18:17. > :18:35.We do not encourage that sort of behaviour!
:18:36. > :18:45.Grigor Dimitrov is flying. Stanislas Wawrinka has got the air of a beaten
:18:46. > :18:54.man. There, it will never play again.
:18:55. > :19:03.The bad news is that the next time Grigor Dimitrov is serving, they
:19:04. > :20:03.will be relatively new balls. So, Stanislas Wawrinka will ask
:20:04. > :20:06.Grigor Dimitrov to serve for it. He has the air of somebody who
:20:07. > :20:12.he can come back into this, Stanislas Wawrinka. He has to give
:20:13. > :20:21.it a shot. Let us go back to Stanislas Wawrinka and that rage. We
:20:22. > :20:28.have seen quite a lot of that. We have seen him chucking it. Have some
:20:29. > :20:34.of that! I have not done enough damage, so I will crack on.
:20:35. > :20:48.Sometimes, you just cannot stop! I am not finished. Now, this... I am
:20:49. > :20:51.not even sorry! He is sorry that he was forced to smile, that is all!
:20:52. > :21:03.Sometimes you just want to continue. The crowd caught him out!
:21:04. > :21:12.That will make a lovely present for somebody! Still drive. Grigor
:21:13. > :21:29.Dimitrov is serving for his place in the final.
:21:30. > :21:41.-- dry. And that is an area of improvement. That forehand return.
:21:42. > :22:12.No doubt, he will be working on that next week.
:22:13. > :22:21.And there he is. Straightforward, in the end. Grigor Dimitrov is through.
:22:22. > :22:28.And the number one seed, the Australian Open champion, has a
:22:29. > :22:36.smile but he is out. Very comfortable win in the end, for
:22:37. > :22:42.Grigor Dimitrov. It certainly was. He had one day off yesterday. He had
:22:43. > :22:48.no problems whatsoever. It shows that this is still a specialist
:22:49. > :22:53.service. And this man is quite special on it. And Stanislas
:22:54. > :23:01.Wawrinka, coming here, into this match. Without having been broken.
:23:02. > :23:06.Yesterday, not one single break point against Matosevic. But
:23:07. > :23:13.Stanislas Wawrinka is of. Wimbledon is next for him. Safely through is
:23:14. > :23:30.Grigor Dimitrov. Straight sets, onto the final. He is talking to John.
:23:31. > :23:40.The microphone is working! I am told it is. That was a great match, well
:23:41. > :23:49.played, your first grass court final? It does feel good. And to be
:23:50. > :23:53.beating such a player as Stanislas Wawrinka, I was nervous on the court
:23:54. > :23:57.in the first four games but I was just trying to be very positive
:23:58. > :24:03.coming into the match. These matches before Wimbledon. My ultimate goal
:24:04. > :24:10.was to win the final here. That is in front of me, one match left to
:24:11. > :24:16.go. I am just very excited to be as relaxed as possible and play good
:24:17. > :24:20.tennis. Does it add to something, eating the grand slam champion? It
:24:21. > :24:26.is always did have this on your resume. But I know that Stanislas
:24:27. > :24:33.Wawrinka is not a mediocre player, he is a player that has prevented
:24:34. > :24:40.everyone that he is good and he is a friend of mine. All respect to him.
:24:41. > :24:46.He won the grand slam and he has been performing very well. This will
:24:47. > :24:49.not put him down, I am sure he will be dangerous in the upcoming weeks
:24:50. > :24:54.and for the rest of the year. We spoke to your coach before and you
:24:55. > :25:02.thought you were not 25% to becoming the player you want to be. 26% now?
:25:03. > :25:09.Yes, it all adds up but the ultimate goal is doing your homework, and I
:25:10. > :25:13.am just excited at the moment, we are having a very good year so far
:25:14. > :25:18.and we will not take this for granted. And we will add up as many
:25:19. > :25:23.things as possible and eventually I will become a better player. Do you
:25:24. > :25:29.care who you will be playing in the final? I'm just glad to be here.
:25:30. > :25:33.This is a tremendous court to be on. And whoever it is, it will not be
:25:34. > :25:39.easy. Both have a tremendous amount of experience, especially on grass.
:25:40. > :25:44.It will not be a walk in the park, I will have to bring 100% tomorrow,
:25:45. > :25:53.motivated as always. Congratulations. Well done indeed.
:25:54. > :26:00.What a display he had. His career is getting better and better. That was
:26:01. > :26:05.a thumping over the top seed, the world number three, and coming up
:26:06. > :26:10.next, Feliciano Lopez, the three times Wimbledon quarterfinalist,
:26:11. > :26:17.against Radek Stepanek. The tournament continues at the Queen's
:26:18. > :26:20.Club. But Maria Sharapova was not here to watch Grigor Dimitrov
:26:21. > :26:29.today, she was practising at the Queen's Club. Sorry, Wimbledon. But
:26:30. > :26:44.the Edgbaston tournament continues and Anna Ivanovich is through to the
:26:45. > :26:48.final. And the final tomorrow, so that is what is happening. But the
:26:49. > :26:56.wait is almost over, England get their World Cup campaign underway.
:26:57. > :27:07.England. Our nation. Throughout the land. History framed and put on the
:27:08. > :27:15.walls. Memories and reminders. Of glory. England are the world
:27:16. > :27:20.champions. The immortals. They buy diet with grace. And they were faced
:27:21. > :27:25.by the greatest. Since then it has been far from simple. The
:27:26. > :27:27.wilderness, but they remained consistent. Celebration and hope
:27:28. > :27:38.extinguished. To his left. You have to say that is

:34:25. > :34:28.is all about and you are taking part? I am not sure about that part
:34:29. > :34:36.of it but this will be a very special day. Every player will be
:34:37. > :34:39.thinking about her the whole match, she will be watching down on us and
:34:40. > :34:44.smiling and we will hope she is feeling that we are playing in her
:34:45. > :34:48.memory. The family will also be watching and it will be very
:34:49. > :34:52.emotional. I know it is going to cause a lot of tingles in the body
:34:53. > :34:57.and some moments when you do not know how to feel. Something special
:34:58. > :35:04.and something we will try our hardest with to show how special she
:35:05. > :35:10.was to the tennis world. Everybody wants to get involved, everybody
:35:11. > :35:16.loved her. Ross against Andy. And you have those Wimbledon champions?
:35:17. > :35:20.This is brilliant, the defending champions on the same court, playing
:35:21. > :35:25.doubles with each other for a lot of the time and other phenomenal
:35:26. > :35:31.players, Heather Watson and players like that. And hopefully other
:35:32. > :35:35.female champions will, as well. We have an amazing line up and it is a
:35:36. > :35:41.question of just showcasing tennis at its finest. That is what you
:35:42. > :35:46.wanted, she enjoyed tennis, we saw those pictures at the Olympics, she
:35:47. > :35:51.played with a smile on her face. She mastered the art of overcoming
:35:52. > :35:56.adversity to be a successful player. We will cover that match on the Red
:35:57. > :36:05.Button. John, she was such a battler on and off the court? As Julie said,
:36:06. > :36:10.she kept so many things quiet and to think there was hardly ever any time
:36:11. > :36:14.when she was 100%, even before she was diagnosed with cancer,
:36:15. > :36:20.physically she could never train as hard as she wanted to and she still
:36:21. > :36:25.made top 50. Where would she have gone? She had the determination, but
:36:26. > :36:31.physically, she was just handicapped by all of these problems. I did not
:36:32. > :36:35.know her that well but everybody has got behind her since all of this
:36:36. > :36:40.happened and they find out that she was ill. She has a tremendous
:36:41. > :36:50.reputation, a lovely lady. Everybody will get the kind the Academy.
:36:51. > :36:54.Moving on, you are busy because you are still playing on the tour, the
:36:55. > :37:00.tournament director, in charge of this very big event. It has been
:37:01. > :37:05.fascinating. It has been a challenge but one that I have really enjoyed,
:37:06. > :37:07.every day has different opportunities to make sure the
:37:08. > :37:13.tournament goes on the right direction. The toughest part was the
:37:14. > :37:18.former director leaving this in such a very good place, winning awards
:37:19. > :37:18.for the best tournament and so on. To keep
:37:19. > :37:22.for the best tournament and so on. To that high level and make sure we
:37:23. > :37:25.keep striving to improve was difficult but I think we have done a
:37:26. > :37:33.very good job and hopefully everyone at home and in the crowd and the
:37:34. > :37:46.players have enjoyed this. I have. Irony have had the time of my life.
:37:47. > :37:51.Play was able to get under way, so they are smiling again.
:37:52. > :37:56.People say that I bring the good weather, but it is pure fortune. I
:37:57. > :38:01.am very pleased. What more do you want? This beautiful club, you have
:38:02. > :38:05.tennis, amazing players, beautiful weather, the best of British summer.
:38:06. > :38:08.Putting them all together with some great players and managers, you
:38:09. > :38:13.could not ask for much more. We will wish you well, still 1 day
:38:14. > :38:21.to go, and good luck with the rally, as well.
:38:22. > :38:29.We are ready for our 2nd semi-final comment comes Radek Stepanek.
:38:30. > :38:37.He has had such a wonderful tournament here, 35 years old, a
:38:38. > :38:41.great career in the Davis Cup and many big occasion is. Former world
:38:42. > :38:45.number 8, as well, so he certainly knows his way around the tennis
:38:46. > :38:52.court, and he is finding his best form here this week.
:38:53. > :39:06.And here comes Feliciano Lopez. We saw him thoroughly enjoying his
:39:07. > :39:10.walk down with Grigor Dimitrov. Both Ryan and Max walking out with
:39:11. > :39:14.players have suffered from leukaemia.
:39:15. > :39:20.players have suffered from Feliciano Lopez, that wonderful
:39:21. > :39:24.served, big left-handed serve. He has won so many points on the grass
:39:25. > :39:27.this week and he will be hoping to do more of the same. A very tricky
:39:28. > :39:33.customer defaces today, Radek Stepanek.
:39:34. > :39:58.Grigor Dimitrov is through combat who will he meet?
:39:59. > :40:06.John, it is a fascinating match, this. Not the semifinal we would
:40:07. > :40:10.have expected, but this is intriguing.
:40:11. > :40:14.This is almost an old-fashioned 2 grasscourt players that play almost
:40:15. > :40:16.old-fashioned tennis in some ways. Serve and volley. Not every ball,
:40:17. > :40:20.but they know how to play on grass Serve and volley. Not every ball,
:40:21. > :40:26.so well. They come in, create angles, they chip well. I think this
:40:27. > :40:30.will be a fascinating match. It will be a really good match between 2
:40:31. > :40:35.experts on this surface. This is a lovely touch for the mascots, young
:40:36. > :40:37.Ryan there is having such a wonderful time.
:40:38. > :40:44.Let's see if we can listen in. Too late!
:40:45. > :40:52.Another lovely picture, as well. We will hear from Feliciano Lopez in a
:40:53. > :40:57.moment. You know these guys really well, you have probably got to know
:40:58. > :41:00.them even better this week. Stepanek has had a wonderful week,
:41:01. > :41:04.he knocked out Andy Murray which was probably not great for the
:41:05. > :41:06.tournament, but he is always tricky, isn't he?
:41:07. > :41:10.He is a fantastic grasscourt player, I have played him many times on the
:41:11. > :41:11.He is a fantastic grasscourt player, double scored and he has a
:41:12. > :41:13.phenomenal return. He takes the ball so LA, hits it
:41:14. > :41:16.clean as a He takes the ball so LA, hits it
:41:17. > :41:23.is so interesting about this matchup, it is the contrast 1 of the
:41:24. > :41:29.best left-handed serves, in Lopez, and the best returners come in
:41:30. > :41:35.Lopez. As John said, it is pure grasscourt tennis. John was a master
:41:36. > :41:39.of it when he was playing on the grass and there is an artist to
:41:40. > :41:43.playing on the grass. You neutralise this slice and hit from the
:41:44. > :41:46.playing on the grass. You neutralise find points and the net. You do not
:41:47. > :41:49.get to see it often these days, so it is nice when they do come
:41:50. > :41:52.especially playing each other on such a big occasion as today. A
:41:53. > :41:57.fascinating matchup. Yesterday, Feliciano Lopez defeated
:41:58. > :42:00.Tomas Berdych, and after the match he spoke to John.
:42:01. > :42:07.You have been playing on grass for more than ten years now. Is it a
:42:08. > :42:10.very different challenge to what it was a decade ago?
:42:11. > :42:14.I think it was more difficult ten years ago when it was my first time
:42:15. > :42:21.at Wimbledon and I didn't know how tough it is to play on grass. But I
:42:22. > :42:26.was lucky that, since the very beginning, I have felt comfortable
:42:27. > :42:33.on the grass. I reached the fourth round the first year I played.
:42:34. > :42:43.You came to my house ten or 12 years ago. We were both younger then.
:42:44. > :42:47.It is true! I find it easier now, but from one Wimbledon to another,
:42:48. > :42:49.it is one year without playing on grass. The first week is always
:42:50. > :42:52.tough. Now after a few days it is getting
:42:53. > :42:57.better. When you come here at -- out of the
:42:58. > :43:00.blue, effectively, when you go from the red to the green, how difficult
:43:01. > :43:05.is that for you and your style of play?
:43:06. > :43:10.Funny it is a bit easier than for the rest of the players, because my
:43:11. > :43:14.game is a specific game that I have. I have a few things I have to
:43:15. > :43:16.do and I go on the court and try to do.
:43:17. > :43:19.have. I have a few things I have to do and I go on the Players from the
:43:20. > :43:25.baseline have to adjust more because they can play in a different way
:43:26. > :43:29.than I do. For me it is easier because I have a few things I know I
:43:30. > :43:31.have to do, so I go there and try to do them.
:43:32. > :43:36.Your serve has been fantastic this week. When you serve a big serve and
:43:37. > :43:41.you get an ace, you get a buzz of power, if you like. When you play a
:43:42. > :43:46.shot like you played on the last but one shot in that match, that
:43:47. > :43:49.fantastic drop volley at the net, what kind of feeling does that give
:43:50. > :43:53.you? The feeling is great, but to be
:43:54. > :43:57.honest I did not know what to do. I get a very good serve and I was
:43:58. > :44:02.expecting him to miss the return. When the ball was on play after the
:44:03. > :44:08.return, I did not know what to do, so in the last minute I played this
:44:09. > :44:13.volley, that was fantastic, but I was surprised I made it because it
:44:14. > :44:18.was very close to my body. I made it, so the feeling was great, but
:44:19. > :44:22.the next time I will try to maybe run forward a little bit faster than
:44:23. > :44:27.be more aggressive with the ball. Feliciano Lopez, he will have many
:44:28. > :44:33.supporters courtside today, but Radek Stepanek yesterday only had
:44:34. > :44:38.one supporter, Petr Cech. John has gone now to see who is in his
:44:39. > :44:44.layer's box today. Not many, as you can see. I have
:44:45. > :44:48.found a gentleman who has told me he is Radek Stepanek's cousin's best
:44:49. > :44:56.friend. Thomas. Is that an advantage, having you in
:44:57. > :45:00.the box for him? I think so, because when Radek has
:45:01. > :45:03.supporters it does lift the player, and if he is feeling good he will
:45:04. > :45:07.perform well. Better check has been in this box
:45:08. > :45:11.all week, is he not able to be here today?
:45:12. > :45:16.He is a bit tied up, but then three has a lot of supporters and they
:45:17. > :45:20.will be here for Wimbledon. In fact, the first time Radek's parents were
:45:21. > :45:23.here was at Wimbledon. At the age of 34 that is the first
:45:24. > :45:30.time they have seen him play? Goodness me! It was. It was
:45:31. > :45:35.disappointing because I think ten three was carrying an injury. But he
:45:36. > :45:38.has done very well, you has reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and
:45:39. > :45:41.is playing better than ever. Here's the current US Open doubles
:45:42. > :45:44.champion. Why do his parents live? They are in
:45:45. > :45:48.Prague. If he got to the final tomorrow
:45:49. > :45:50.would they come over? Very unlikely. But for Wimbledon
:45:51. > :45:54.they will make an exception, Wimbledon is very special,
:45:55. > :46:00.obviously. But Radek is a classic serve and
:46:01. > :46:03.volley, he is old school. He will not find many people that play the
:46:04. > :46:10.classic serve and volley game. Ten three has still got it, as you saw,
:46:11. > :46:14.this is his favourite service. -- Radek has still got it. The last
:46:15. > :46:17.couple of years have been tremendous for him.
:46:18. > :46:23.Not only did the Czech Republic win the Davis Cup for the first time in
:46:24. > :46:29.30 years, they defended it, as well. In the last time, when Thomas
:46:30. > :46:35.Birbeck -- Tomas Berdych was injured, they won 5-0.
:46:36. > :46:40.I think everyone at Queen's Club this week has taken Radek to their
:46:41. > :46:43.hearts. Will this might be live on television in the Czech Republic, do
:46:44. > :46:48.you think, or will his parents have to watch it on the internet?
:46:49. > :46:53.There will be some screaming, I am sure. They will be able to follow
:46:54. > :46:57.it. -- there will be some screaming. He is the year of the Czech
:46:58. > :47:01.Republic. After they won the Davis Cup, Ivan Lendl was the last person
:47:02. > :47:05.30 years ago when it was Czechoslovakia. After he achieved
:47:06. > :47:11.that, in Prague itself, that was a tremendous achievement. He is in the
:47:12. > :47:19.hearts of many people at the moment. But the way he plays, his matches
:47:20. > :47:23.are always interesting to watch. It is not the old baseline. He plays a
:47:24. > :47:28.very interesting game. And he is such a pleasure to watch. We looking
:47:29. > :47:29.forward to this match in mislead between ten three and Feliciano
:47:30. > :47:34.Lopez. Thank you for talking to us, lovely
:47:35. > :47:36.to meet you. Let's go back to the team.
:47:37. > :47:42.I think it is filling up, we have moved into the front row.
:47:43. > :47:49.A fascinating matchup, Grigor Dimitrov awaits, and boy was he in
:47:50. > :47:49.amazing form earlier today defeating Stan Wawrinka.
:47:50. > :47:55.Will it be Lopez or Stepanek? Stan Wawrinka.
:47:56. > :48:00.Let's join our commentators, John Lloyd and Andrew Castle.
:48:01. > :48:05.Thank you very much indeed. Overcast, little bit of rain, but
:48:06. > :48:11.hopefully we will be able to get through this match without having to
:48:12. > :48:17.pause for the weather. Actually very nice conditions for tennis, a steady
:48:18. > :48:20.wind coming from the direction of Heathrow.
:48:21. > :48:24.Conversely experienced members of the ATP Tour going against each
:48:25. > :48:31.other year. I think we will see match the slice backhand, although
:48:32. > :48:36.for some a dying art, is still extremely viable -- valuable. These
:48:37. > :48:40.guys have great control of the tennis ball and they are quite
:48:41. > :48:46.old-fashioned players. Lopez, 32 years old, the
:48:47. > :48:52.left-hander. He lives in Madrid now. 29th in the world, a high of
:48:53. > :48:55.number 15 back in 2012. He has won three titles, including Eastbourne
:48:56. > :49:00.on the grass lass there. Three times a quarterfinalist at the
:49:01. > :49:05.Championships in Wimbledon. He is a man of vast experience in this
:49:06. > :49:09.surface and actually Wimbledon has given him his best Grand Slam
:49:10. > :49:18.results. In 2005 he lost to Lleyton Hewitt. In the 2008 Wimbledon
:49:19. > :49:22.quarterfinal he lost outcome in 2011 feet lost to Andy Murray. He is a
:49:23. > :49:30.player of pedigree on this very specialist service. His success is
:49:31. > :49:34.in no small part due to that incredible service motion. Even when
:49:35. > :49:40.he is 100 years old he will be delivering this comic is a thing of
:49:41. > :49:47.simple beauty. -- delivering this. It is a thing of simple beauty.
:49:48. > :49:53.Radek Stepanek from the Czech Republic, this Davis Cup start from
:49:54. > :50:01.that country. Tomas Berdych is obviously the big player, but what a
:50:02. > :50:06.fantastic supporting role Stepanek has played. To have won a match in
:50:07. > :50:10.the Davis Cup two years in a row to win the whole thing is really a very
:50:11. > :50:13.high achievement indeed. It is probably the toughest thing in
:50:14. > :50:18.tennis next to winning a Grand Slam singles, I would imagine, in terms
:50:19. > :50:23.of the pressure, and he has done it. For him to have won the Davis Cup
:50:24. > :50:26.last two years back-to-back is remarkable, and he was the star of
:50:27. > :50:32.the shore in many of the matches. He is just a warrior, he plays week in,
:50:33. > :50:35.week out, singles and doubles. He is always there or thereabouts in these
:50:36. > :50:39.events comedy takes every match seriously and he is an old school
:50:40. > :50:43.sort of player. I think he is great to watch on grass.
:50:44. > :50:47.His best performance at Wimbledon, as I was telling you about
:50:48. > :50:53.His best performance at Wimbledon, Lopez, was a quarterfinal at
:50:54. > :50:59.Wimbledon in 2006. He beat David Ferrer 11-9 that year, lost to Jonas
:51:00. > :51:07.Bjorkman comedy was exhausted by the time he got there. -- he lost to
:51:08. > :51:15.Jonas Bjorkman, who then got thumped by Roger Federer. That was that
:51:16. > :51:20.year. Probably the undercard match, if you like, this, yet I think this
:51:21. > :51:25.will probably provide the most entertaining tennis of the day. I
:51:26. > :51:29.hope you can stay with us for this semifinal. Grigor Dimitrov awaits in
:51:30. > :51:34.the semifinal, semifinal. Grigor Dimitrov awaits in
:51:35. > :51:39.talent. The winner of this please him.
:51:40. > :51:40.talent. The winner of this please Lopez to commence, see what you
:51:41. > :52:35.think of this service motion. There is no time to take the racket
:52:36. > :52:41.back on grass court against a first serve like this. The amount of times
:52:42. > :52:43.you just somehow got his racket to the ball and nudged it back into
:52:44. > :53:12.play. Hold on!
:53:13. > :53:21.That is just brilliant from both players. That was gorgeous to watch.
:53:22. > :53:25.This slice backhand is unbelievable. To even go for this shot was
:53:26. > :53:30.tremendous. He just flipped that over his head. Wonderful. A few more
:53:31. > :53:31.of those points, please. I think there will be plenty more
:53:32. > :53:47.where that came from. A measure of the versatility of
:53:48. > :53:51.Radek Stepanek is that yet Julie went home to the Czech Republic
:53:52. > :53:54.after the French Open. -- he actually went home. And he played a
:53:55. > :54:00.challenge on clay! He just likes playing, doesn't he?
:54:01. > :54:07.He just likes playing the game, this is key. He made the semifinal.
:54:08. > :54:18.And what a doubles player, too. Reigning US Open in doubles
:54:19. > :54:21.champions. But out of this tournament, GB
:54:22. > :54:24.Murray is the last bit standing, with an Australian, John Peers. They
:54:25. > :54:49.are playing later on. We have seen the mix-up there. Serve
:54:50. > :54:54.folly now and again but he has also quite content to get that first
:54:55. > :55:36.service in accurate areas then coming there on the second ball.
:55:37. > :55:46.That is one of the slower thing-10-macros you will see. -- one
:55:47. > :56:13.of the slower aces. Actually almost perfect tennis
:56:14. > :56:18.weather, a bit of a breeze, slightly more than they would like, it could
:56:19. > :56:23.maybe be a few degrees of in temperature, but no sun. Players do
:56:24. > :56:29.not like serving in the sun, they like it when it is cloudy.
:56:30. > :56:34.There is that short backswing to that inside the baseline on the
:56:35. > :56:36.rise. It just shortens up the swing in there, just uses the pace of the
:56:37. > :57:01.serve and directs it down the line. the first point against serve, and
:57:02. > :57:25.now there is another. Just a sniff of a break.
:57:26. > :57:33.That was a pity therefore Stepanek, because years normally very good
:57:34. > :57:37.with that drop volley and he was in a commanding position. That is three
:57:38. > :57:42.great returns in a row, but really that got folly was way too high over
:57:43. > :57:47.the net. He did not let the ball dying like he normally does.
:57:48. > :57:50.Feliciano had plenty of time to get on and roll it crosscourt forehand.
:57:51. > :58:22.Safe from Lopez. This is a delight, watching both
:58:23. > :58:25.players. It is the way their tennis mixes together, quite fascinating.
:58:26. > :58:31.The backhand slice from Lopez staying low, Stepanek electing to go
:58:32. > :58:39.deep. He had a look at it coming in, then he backed off... Years one of
:58:40. > :59:28.the more intelligent players you will ever see. -- he is one.
:59:29. > :59:32.the opportunity to come in. He elected to go this time, he thought
:59:33. > :59:36.if he was quick enough, but you could see his position on the
:59:37. > :59:37.court, he did not get quick enough to the net. And that lovely
:59:38. > :00:40.backhand. Feliciano Lopez, early days but he
:00:41. > :00:44.will be concerned that he is not getting as many free points on his
:00:45. > :00:46.serve, which he has been all week. At the moment, Radek Stepanek has
:00:47. > :01:21.been picking the direction very Very good approach from Feliciano
:01:22. > :01:27.Lopez. The backhand slice, low and steep, he did well to get down on
:01:28. > :01:30.the volley. And in anticipation for that natural volley, to
:01:31. > :01:43.instinctively know which way to move. They covered the right shots
:01:44. > :01:50.at the net. Well, he faced 30-40. But he comes through the game,
:01:51. > :02:01.Feliciano Lopez. Serving his 55th ace of the week. Along the way.
:02:02. > :02:08.Feliciano Lopez, victory over Lleyton Hewitt. That really got him
:02:09. > :02:13.going. Let us look at his backhand slice. He is going a fair amount
:02:14. > :02:19.over to the forehand side but it is accuracy, when he gets that top
:02:20. > :02:25.spin, it can go anywhere. That one of the net, I am not quite sure!
:02:26. > :02:27.Hawk-Eye might have got that one slightly wrong.
:02:28. > :02:32.Hawk-Eye might have got that one slice is nothing you can attack?
:02:33. > :02:39.Exactly. He uses that so well. It is a great shot. He punches that
:02:40. > :02:45.through. Some players have that backhand slice. They never really
:02:46. > :02:48.get that punch going through the court. It just sits there and when
:02:49. > :02:53.Rafa Nadal first came onto the grass, that was his problem, you
:02:54. > :02:58.would try to hit that a lot, you have to learn that shot because you
:02:59. > :03:00.are out of position a lot more on grass and Rafael Nadal,
:03:01. > :03:05.are out of position a lot more on seemed to just sit a little bit. But
:03:06. > :03:10.he has worked on that and his backhand slice is almost as good as
:03:11. > :03:17.anybody's. Both of these players have that shot. And Radek Stepanek
:03:18. > :03:21.is just as good as well. Such an antidote to the players who just go
:03:22. > :03:26.out there and back every ball on to both sides. We can see some art
:03:27. > :03:32.being choreographed. Almost like and Dan 's routine. Very old-fashioned,
:03:33. > :03:57.I am enjoying it. -- like a dance routine.
:03:58. > :04:04.Even though Radek Stepanek lost that service game, he had a chance at
:04:05. > :04:09.15-30, he will be happy and he will feel that he is in this match with
:04:10. > :04:12.the return of serve because he made a lot of excellent returns on that
:04:13. > :04:17.last service game. Even though he did not get the break, that will be
:04:18. > :04:35.counted as a good game, to play that one.
:04:36. > :04:42.The first shadows of the day indicate that the sun has come out
:04:43. > :04:44.and the wind has picked up. No delays today, just some rain before
:04:45. > :04:57.the matches began. You might say that a good dousing
:04:58. > :05:06.for those who made their way earlier! Including me. Lovely day in
:05:07. > :05:37.prospect for this second semifinal at the Queen's Club.
:05:38. > :05:45.Radek Stepanek came in, he had a chance on the backhand but he did
:05:46. > :05:51.not quite get a hold of that so he will be treated -- he retreated back
:05:52. > :05:58.to the baseline and Feliciano Lopez finishes that point. He really is
:05:59. > :06:07.statuesque. And human tames his posture all of the time. That was no
:06:08. > :06:12.good. -- and he maintains. He has good strength, good leg strength,
:06:13. > :06:17.you feel that he could pay for as long as he wants because his game is
:06:18. > :06:19.just so simple. That is what everybody strives for, simple games
:06:20. > :09:05.that you can rely on. This is ready quite a throwback of a
:09:06. > :09:11.match, being played in front of one of the oldest sport pavilions in the
:09:12. > :09:20.world. I was looking at the honour board and it was from 1855, Oxford
:09:21. > :09:27.and Cambridge, doubles. And one of them for Cambridge. 1855! It really
:09:28. > :09:33.does have tremendous history, this place. Many of the major sports went
:09:34. > :09:37.from here, which was the first multisport complex anywhere in the
:09:38. > :09:42.world. Football went to Wembley, rugby went to Twickenham. They still
:09:43. > :09:47.did athletics around the outside of the grounds. And if you fly into
:09:48. > :09:56.Heathrow and looked down at this little piece, this little oasis, it
:09:57. > :10:00.is a very heavily populated area. There are a lot of property
:10:01. > :10:05.developers salivating! But they cannot have it! It remains a
:10:06. > :10:18.tremendous sports ground. The members will appreciate this. This
:10:19. > :10:29.type of contest. The President's box. About middle -- Pippa Middleton
:10:30. > :11:31.was here earlier this week, right next to Maria Sharapova.
:11:32. > :11:43.Superb. Difficult shot from Feliciano Lopez. You can see how low
:11:44. > :11:49.he stayed there, Feliciano Lopez, on that second passing shot. That was
:11:50. > :11:54.really deep, he had good footwork to get back quickly. Using those legs,
:11:55. > :12:46.good rotation. Some trouble for Radek Stepanek.
:12:47. > :12:54.That really did not go through the court very much. Plenty of time for
:12:55. > :13:01.Feliciano Lopez. There are two break points.
:13:02. > :13:18.That was not caught. So... Was this a break? This is a key moment. And
:13:19. > :13:27.this is where Hawk-Eye comes into it. Without Hawk-Eye, that would be
:13:28. > :13:32.break of serve to Feliciano Lopez, and that would not be right.
:13:33. > :13:37.Hawk-Eye has changed the game. The umpire might have got involved. That
:13:38. > :13:44.would be very tough to overrule. On grass, there is no mark. It is very
:13:45. > :14:24.dicey. I am sure they are glad that Hawk-Eye has come in.
:14:25. > :14:32.John Lloyd, wrote -- right from the word go, you may not have seen him,
:14:33. > :14:39.but you have been wondering about this serve? Seven miles per hour
:14:40. > :14:49.less in speed than in his previous match. Is this tactical? Ward is
:14:50. > :14:57.there a shoulder problem? It is definitely slower. -- or is there.
:14:58. > :15:05.And yet, he serves an ace on the break point. There is not as much
:15:06. > :15:12.light as there are normally is. -- bite.
:15:13. > :15:25.That is good! Well, Feliciano Lopez was looking at the bench and they
:15:26. > :15:31.gave him the sign that this was good. If it is not, this will give
:15:32. > :16:19.them a very nasty scare. That is fine. They were right.
:16:20. > :16:26.That was surprising. It just kept on him a little bit. But that was a
:16:27. > :16:35.ball that you would expect him to make. -- dipped.. He was trying to
:16:36. > :16:46.be just a little bit too cute with that ball.
:16:47. > :16:55.Not much you can do about that. Once again, in the serve, if you do not
:16:56. > :17:00.get the accuracy right, the pace was decent but it came back at him just
:17:01. > :17:56.so quickly. Excellent return of serve and another break point.
:17:57. > :18:04.He keeps that ball in play. Difficult position. He gives himself
:18:05. > :18:11.one more chance to hit that passing shot. He just knew that Feliciano
:18:12. > :18:14.Lopez would have to hit that volley. Feliciano Lopez once that volley.
:18:15. > :18:36.That went deep, taking his chances. All away with that, there are. That
:18:37. > :18:44.was not a good volley from Radek Stepanek. He would have put that one
:18:45. > :18:47.away and gave Lopez a chance. A good sneak attack from Radek Stepanek. He
:18:48. > :19:33.knows when to sneak into the net. Five break points. Five break points
:19:34. > :19:41.saved and a really -- Michael real momentum builder for Radek Stepanek.
:19:42. > :19:46.Lopez now at three all. It was a score his football team would have
:19:47. > :19:56.taken last night. 5-1 losing to Holland! He must have been shocked.
:19:57. > :20:12.The goalkeeper is a good friend of Lopez. Not any more! He will disown
:20:13. > :20:18.him. That is unplayable, it really is. What a fabulous approach. How do
:20:19. > :20:25.you get that back? You have to dig it up. Look at the way it stays low,
:20:26. > :21:25.it is fading away, how can you pass from there? It is impossible.
:21:26. > :21:35.APPLAUSE. A classy volley there. A good return from Radek Stepanek to
:21:36. > :21:52.jab that back. I think we heard that! Some body
:21:53. > :22:33.armour back their! -- back there. APPLAUSE. Yes. That is seven
:22:34. > :22:40.interesting games to open up this second semifinal at Queen's Club. We
:22:41. > :22:47.are just days away from Wimbledon. Andy Murray will defend his title.
:22:48. > :22:56.Andy Murray found three tough to handle this week. That is hardly a
:22:57. > :23:10.crisis for him, especially after Roland Garros. -- Radek Stepanek.
:23:11. > :23:21.That man standing up was a good player. It is not necessary to be a
:23:22. > :23:26.former player to be a fine coach. Absolutely not necessary, but there
:23:27. > :23:30.are occasions when someone, particularly a Grand Slam champion,
:23:31. > :23:37.coaching and other grand slam champion, will ensure that they
:23:38. > :23:47.benefit from knowing what will happen. Little things that might
:23:48. > :23:57.help, it certainly helps. It is the likes of Stefan Ed Berg with Roger
:23:58. > :23:58.Federer. -- Stefan Edberg. They would really know what they are
:23:59. > :28:06.talking about. APPLAUSE. A comfortable hold there.
:28:07. > :28:22.To get to 40-0, he has not had to do anything. Lopez is off on the serve.
:28:23. > :28:34.Ten seconds. He did not really do too much there. We talk about
:28:35. > :28:37.Wimbledon in relation to this tournament, it sets strongly by
:28:38. > :28:42.itself, partly to do with the date and partly to do with the staging
:28:43. > :28:46.and the good courts, but the Wimbledon wildcard have been
:28:47. > :28:53.announced and the full draw will be available next Friday for Wimbledon
:28:54. > :28:59.-- wildcards. The seeds will be announced on Wednesday. The rankings
:29:00. > :29:04.on Monday, so after this tournament, the rankings will be announced on
:29:05. > :29:10.Monday, plus all the points on grass in the previous year, plus three
:29:11. > :29:19.quarters of points from last year's grass courts events. He is sneaking
:29:20. > :29:26.up high, but he knows he is by the cameras, it is Roger Rasheed. Do you
:29:27. > :29:31.like the fact that the seedings are not done straight off the rankings?
:29:32. > :29:39.For brass, it is the correct thing to do. They have a computerised
:29:40. > :29:43.system -- grass. They have a way of working out previous matches and I
:29:44. > :29:47.think it is their a way to do it. Andy Murray will probably go to
:29:48. > :29:55.number three, because he will not have to play a top four. He could
:29:56. > :30:09.possibly play Stanislas Wawrinka who could drop down.
:30:10. > :30:20.Just one last point on that. One last point on the computer model had
:30:21. > :30:21.Novak Djokovic as top seed, Rafa Nadal number two, Andy Murray at
:30:22. > :30:53.number three. He is excellent at volleying, Radek
:30:54. > :31:16.Stepanek. His technique is so good. APPLAUSE. When you sneak in on those
:31:17. > :31:20.ground structures, you are looking for your opponent stretching and you
:31:21. > :31:25.have to time it right, so that you are in the blind spot and they do
:31:26. > :31:33.not know you're coming in to chip a ball, possibly high, and you need
:31:34. > :32:10.the instinct to know that and Radek Stepanek certainly doors. -- does.
:32:11. > :32:18.A big gust of wind in the middle of that point. Left to right as we are
:32:19. > :32:24.going down the court and as he played the drop shot it faded away
:32:25. > :32:28.with the wind, but he is so quick and so perceptive of changing
:32:29. > :32:32.conditions on court, even though he missed that, he has showed
:32:33. > :32:48.tremendous awareness of the playing conditions.
:32:49. > :32:56.First time we have seen that tactic, chipping and charging on the
:32:57. > :33:00.serve. Straight down the middle can be so effective, because which way
:33:01. > :33:13.do you go on the past? Anything available to you. -- pass will stop
:33:14. > :33:21.Lopez has got two points from the set.
:33:22. > :34:11.He took off like an absolute sprinter after the backhand, but
:34:12. > :34:15.when he realised he was in trouble, he backed up. He did not quite have
:34:16. > :34:53.the touch to get it over the head of Radek Stepanek.
:34:54. > :35:02.That is a find -- a fine hold from deuce and under pressure. Almost
:35:03. > :35:08.three quarters of an deuce and under pressure. Almost
:35:09. > :35:15.here, second semifinal and Grigor Dimitrov awaits in the final. He is
:35:16. > :35:17.so watchable and he is still improving and he is still only 23.
:35:18. > :35:54.That is for tomorrow. That is about the size we need now,
:35:55. > :36:16.John! We would be able to see it coming. Just about!
:36:17. > :37:06.He looks relatively comfortable, but you have to be aware, that the wind
:37:07. > :37:16.is swirling a little bit, not too deep, but you need to keep your feet
:37:17. > :37:20.moving, and that is not easy. That is very strong, a very strong hold
:37:21. > :37:25.after three quarters of an hour, 6-5, still no breaks, the Spaniard
:37:26. > :37:41.with a narrow lead. No doubt these two are going to be a
:37:42. > :37:49.factor in the Wimbledon draw, the very top names on the top four or
:37:50. > :37:56.top eight will know exactly worth Radek Stepanek and Lopez are. This
:37:57. > :38:01.is an interesting semifinal. 2pm tomorrow for the final with Grigor
:38:02. > :38:06.Dimitrov, nothing to choose between these two at the moment. We have
:38:07. > :38:11.come to the end of our programme here, but we will show you the
:38:12. > :38:14.conclusion of this match over on BBC Two, so if you want to continue
:38:15. > :38:15.watching, switch
