:00:02. > :00:08.magnificent Grand National course going right around the edge and
:00:08. > :00:12.inside it, the Mildmay course over which the normal steeplechase races
:00:12. > :00:17.are run. This is the scene here. Yesterday, we had a crowd of over
:00:17. > :00:20.30,000. They set a new first day record. Back in the '70s, those who
:00:21. > :00:25.were here tell me you would be lucky to get 3,000 people coming on
:00:25. > :00:29.the Thursday and Friday. Ladies' day has become spectacularly
:00:29. > :00:35.popular. We could get up to 50,000 people today. They come early to
:00:35. > :00:40.enjoy the full celebrations of the day. Hugely entertaining and they
:00:40. > :00:48.get ladyed' day goody bag wiskon tain flip-flops, which are
:00:48. > :00:54.essential if you are wearing stilettos -- which contain flip-
:00:54. > :00:57.flops. The winner walks away with 5,000 today. The grandstands will
:00:57. > :01:01.be packed. When it comes to the racing, it's of the highest quality
:01:01. > :01:04.and a lot of people coming racing here for the first time expecting
:01:04. > :01:07.it to be one big party get caught up in the excitement of the sport
:01:07. > :01:11.and find themselves falling in love with racing. That is the point of
:01:11. > :01:16.it. We really do have a great line- up for you today. Everybody's eyes
:01:16. > :01:24.and attention are on tomorrow, the John Smith's Grand National is only
:01:24. > :01:29.one day away. Always remember as a kid I was very
:01:29. > :01:36.excited about it. I used to sit on my dad's arm chair, I remember
:01:36. > :01:41.commentating on the Grand National in my grandparent's house. It's the
:01:41. > :01:50.one race that sets it apart from any other, it's the National. The
:01:50. > :01:55.whole world watches it. The night before, the nerves start. Too much
:01:55. > :02:01.anticipation. Do get butterflies. Everything blews up around. You can
:02:01. > :02:05.hear the helicopters above. So much colour. Feels like you're flying.
:02:05. > :02:10.My wife worries a little bit about me going in the National. Dream of
:02:10. > :02:15.get ago clear run round. You are going out there and you could be on
:02:15. > :02:25.the 2-1 favourite, a 200-1 shot and you know that you could still win
:02:25. > :02:25.
:02:25. > :02:35.that race. Can't do it without the horse. This is the people's race,
:02:35. > :02:40.
:02:40. > :02:44.These are the horses on board which they'll be riding. He could have a
:02:44. > :02:50.chance for Gordon Elliott. This is down at the racecourse stables,
:02:50. > :03:00.very rare we get a view down here and a lot of the Irish horses have
:03:00. > :03:00.
:03:01. > :03:05.come early. This is Sea Bass. This horse is Organised Confusion for
:03:05. > :03:09.her uncle, Arthur Moore. All the horses very well looked after.
:03:09. > :03:14.Fantastic racecourse stables. They have a buzz about them. For the
:03:14. > :03:20.jockeys, it must get really nerve- racking. Richard Dunwoody's won
:03:20. > :03:24.twice, Richard Pitman came close to winning it. What is it like the day
:03:24. > :03:29.before? The buzz is tremendous. It really, if you've got any blood in
:03:29. > :03:33.your veins, it pumps it round hard, Clare, it's so exciting, you want
:03:33. > :03:38.it to get on and do it. The day before is not a nice day, you want
:03:38. > :03:43.to get in there. For those that have rides, it's fine. Denis o
:03:43. > :03:49.Regan hasn't got a ride until the last live race and he's all excited.
:03:49. > :03:53.Doesn't know what to do with himself. But Richard, you rode a
:03:53. > :03:58.lot of big race winners, class winners all over the place. When
:03:58. > :04:02.you won the Grand National, both time, did you find you got a
:04:02. > :04:06.different reaction? It's obviously totally different, it was THE race.
:04:06. > :04:11.For me, AP will always say the Gold Cup is the professional's race and
:04:11. > :04:15.for him as good as the National, but for me, riding the National was
:04:15. > :04:20.the top pinnacle and I love coming back every year and was very lucky
:04:20. > :04:25.to have some great horses to ride. It wasn't just winning it, I had a
:04:25. > :04:28.couple come round and finished place as well. You get a buzz
:04:28. > :04:31.thinking you might finish second or third. You come in and you are on
:04:31. > :04:36.such a high afterwards. Just completing it you are on a high,
:04:36. > :04:40.just getting round, it's a real buzz to get around. I've done it,
:04:41. > :04:47.I'm here! If you compare it to how children feel about Christmas, it's
:04:47. > :04:51.that kind of excitement for the jockeys. This is what gets them
:04:51. > :04:54.excited. This is what we've got in store here, we are here all
:04:54. > :05:00.afternoon. In the sport of horse racing, horse welfare is THE
:05:00. > :05:06.paramount concern, the vets' team here has been expanded and improved.
:05:06. > :05:15.We find out how the vet checks whether a horse is fit to run. The
:05:15. > :05:19.trainer of Grand National Hello Treacle, we speak to him. Finian's
:05:19. > :05:21.Rainbow won a race at Cheltenham, bids to follow up here in the grade
:05:22. > :05:26.one race. He's up against Albertas one race. He's up against Albertas
:05:26. > :05:31.Run. The professional jockeys get their first chance to saver the
:05:31. > :05:36.national fences one circuit ahead of them for the top and chase,
:05:36. > :05:40.including Always Waining, who's won it twice before. Peter O'Sullivan
:05:40. > :05:44.shares his Grand National memories with us in the race where you must
:05:44. > :05:54.expect the unexpected. Devon Lock and Foinavon feature today. These
:05:54. > :06:05.
:06:05. > :06:09.are the races, we start shortly at including Frankie Figg and Always
:06:09. > :06:14.Waining. Triangular is the favourite and we finish at 4.15
:06:15. > :06:18.with the John Smith's receive phone novice's hurdle. The weather here
:06:18. > :06:22.has been extraordinary because yesterday folks stone had to be
:06:23. > :06:27.abandoned after the first race because it was raining so heavily -
:06:27. > :06:31.- Folkestone. No rain as yet here but clouds. What is the forecast
:06:31. > :06:36.right down there between the second last and last of the National
:06:36. > :06:41.course, we find Mick and Rishi. Where we are standing at the moment
:06:41. > :06:45.has been one of the dry spots on the course, between fences one and
:06:45. > :06:49.two in the Topham Chase and it's fences 13 and 14 in the big race
:06:49. > :06:52.tomorrow. Mick, yesterday, the clerk of the course put on between
:06:52. > :06:56.three and five mill metres of water. Good job and what is the ground
:06:56. > :07:00.like? I think it's beautiful. If you look here, you can get a nice
:07:00. > :07:05.print. That's exactly what everybody wants to see. I deny any
:07:05. > :07:09.trainer to come down here and not be happy. Superb ground. The
:07:09. > :07:13.official going is good, good-to- soft in places. The forecast is dry
:07:13. > :07:15.and sunny in the morning, showers forecast in the afternoon. Let's
:07:15. > :07:19.say we don't get any more rain between now and tomorrow afternoon
:07:19. > :07:21.before the showers are forecast, any possibility that more water
:07:21. > :07:24.might go down on the course courtesy of the clerk of the
:07:24. > :07:28.course? It will be a risky proposition to do it in case you
:07:28. > :07:32.get a deluge. I don't think it will dry out that much. There's a bit of
:07:32. > :07:40.moisture in this great old turf. I think they'll be OK. One horse that
:07:40. > :07:45.will enjoy the ground today? It's a Gimme. One horse I'll go for
:07:45. > :07:48.Champion Court, fast becoming one of my favourite horses in training.
:07:48. > :07:55.Thanks to Mick and Rishi. We are going to get a fantastic cheer
:07:55. > :07:59.today as the runners start for the first race, mainly because we have
:07:59. > :08:02.such a huge crowd and a big percentage of them are female
:08:02. > :08:06.because it's ladies' day and I hope the sun stays out for their sakes
:08:06. > :08:10.as much as anything because if it starts to get chilly, you could
:08:10. > :08:15.regret not wearing a jabgts or something .I'm sounding terribly
:08:15. > :08:19.sensible and matronly, I realise -- jacket. Great to see so many people
:08:19. > :08:23.enjoying a day at the races though, Jim? Yes, it is, absolutely
:08:23. > :08:27.wonderful. They are out here for their traditional Friday here at
:08:27. > :08:34.Liverpool. It is a real buzz, a real special atmosphere and, of
:08:34. > :08:40.course, we've got a great programme of racing as well. Yesterday, we
:08:40. > :08:50.saw Big Bucks, Menora winning. We have a good card for you today. The
:08:50. > :08:50.
:08:50. > :09:33.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds
:09:33. > :09:37.runners and riders for the first Today's racing could be absolutely
:09:37. > :09:41.crucial for Nicky Henderson. Paul Nicholls went back in front of
:09:41. > :09:44.Nicky for the race to be champion trainer. So let's hear from Nicky
:09:44. > :09:49.on his prospects and what he thinks about them today.
:09:49. > :09:52.You are the man to speak to with this race, they are all very nice
:09:52. > :09:57.horses. Darlan, great run at Cheltenham last time? It was. You
:09:57. > :10:01.feel sorry for him a little because he looked as if he'd come there in
:10:01. > :10:05.the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury, came second last with every chance and
:10:05. > :10:11.fell. It looked as if we might have thrown that away. Le did nothing
:10:11. > :10:15.wrong at Cheltenham, so he does deserve a little consolation prize.
:10:15. > :10:20.Certainly does. This track versus Cheltenham, better or the same for
:10:20. > :10:23.him? Middle East a speedy customer. Funnily enough I think he'll jump a
:10:23. > :10:29.fence next year anyway. What happens here will tell us a lot. I
:10:29. > :10:33.wouldn't be worried about the track, he's sharp. Two others, Captain
:10:33. > :10:39.Conan? Lovely great big horse. He's more likely to be a chaser than a
:10:39. > :10:43.hurdler, but he's won the Tollworth, kept him out of Cheltenham in the
:10:44. > :10:50.first place, didn't need to be there this year but he deserves to
:10:50. > :11:00.be here. Then we'll put him away to two chasing, but he's a lovely
:11:00. > :11:03.
:11:03. > :11:07.horse. Oscar Dara -- Oscara Dara? He was monumentally impressive in
:11:07. > :11:11.his last race. The handicap was going to kill him for what he did
:11:11. > :11:15.at Sandown, so I thought, you've got to try and come out of your
:11:15. > :11:18.novice season with something, you know, like a race like this, if you
:11:18. > :11:23.can come out with something like this, I didn't go and blow his
:11:23. > :11:26.maiden for nothing, at the moment it looks like I've done that. If I
:11:26. > :11:32.knew he'd do that at Sandown, I might have thought twice, but he
:11:32. > :11:38.was very impressive. Got to see what happens. We don't know with
:11:38. > :11:42.him, he's a lovely baby. Looks as if Darlan should be the best, is
:11:42. > :11:48.that what you think it is? If you take the Cheltenham form here, but
:11:48. > :11:52.like a lot of them yesterday, there were a couple came from Cheltenham
:11:52. > :11:57.won and there's a few of mine that haven't run to their Cheltenham
:11:57. > :12:04.form so you don't know what the Cheltenham factor has on the horses
:12:04. > :12:08.as far as this is concerned. Darlan is obviously the one that had a
:12:08. > :12:17.great run if you take Cheltenham form. Speak to you later in the
:12:17. > :12:22.winners' encoz sure, I'm sure. so! -- enclosure.
:12:22. > :12:27.When I said AP McCoy didn't have a win this week yet, I should clarify,
:12:27. > :12:36.I meant this meeting. In the betting ring, we find John Parrot
:12:36. > :12:46.all on your own? Very much so. We'll be poorer for the about --
:12:46. > :13:07.
:13:07. > :13:12.absence of my old mate Gary but a Darlan. We had a look at Darlan
:13:12. > :13:19.when we were talking to Nicky Henderson. Paul Nicholls trains
:13:19. > :13:25.Ruby Walsh trains in the middle there, Prospect Wells. I love him,
:13:25. > :13:29.his form ties in with Darlan. OK, he was fifth at Cheltenham when
:13:29. > :13:39.Darlan was second but he was running up the hill and the
:13:39. > :13:44.
:13:44. > :13:49.distances were nothing. Vulcanite is being mentioned a lot. Going
:13:49. > :13:52.very well faded a bit quickly. Now Richard Dunwoody, this course is
:13:52. > :14:01.less testing than Cheltenham, maybe that's why it gives him a chance
:14:01. > :14:04.today? It does. A real good horse ant flat. I have a good each way
:14:04. > :14:08.prospect with this horse. People don't realise the importance
:14:08. > :14:13.of tongue ties. If I horse can't breathe because it's swallowed its
:14:13. > :14:20.tongue, the next time it can breathe, chalk and cheese. Captain
:14:20. > :14:25.Conan is trained by Nicky Henderson. Travelling strongly alongside the
:14:25. > :14:31.winner last time out. Falling at Newbury on his penultimate start.
:14:31. > :14:35.Definitely there? Captain Conan, he was taken to Kelso for his prep run
:14:35. > :14:40.and got beat there. Looks very fit. Henderson's horses are very lean
:14:40. > :14:47.and ready, they don't have fat horses at Henderson's. Agent Archie,
:14:47. > :14:52.number two in pink was on the flat, ran in San Moritz on the snow. Now
:14:52. > :14:56.with Donald McCain. Didn't run too badly. He sweated up again today
:14:56. > :15:00.Claire. He ran a good race for a long way there and they said
:15:00. > :15:05.they'll probably give him a bit more of a chance today. You can see
:15:05. > :15:11.there how warm they get. They'll get him a bit more settled and
:15:11. > :15:15.recked run better today, closer to Darlan -- he could run better.
:15:15. > :15:19.Seventh Sky was lathered in sweat. Some horses need to be though.
:15:19. > :15:28.are being directed out on to the course and towards the start, so
:15:28. > :15:35.let's join Jim McGrath for the opening race on ladies' day.
:15:35. > :15:39.Tangle Teezer Top Novices' Hurdle. They're walking out slowly. The
:15:39. > :15:44.interesting runners here, Prospect Wells, Ruby Walsh wearing the same
:15:44. > :15:52.colours he'll wear on his own tomorrow in the National. By
:15:52. > :15:55.coincidence, AP McCoy, he's wearing the same jacket that he'll be
:15:55. > :16:00.wearing. 7-1 favourite for the National at this point, but still
:16:00. > :16:04.24 hours or a little over to go. Walking out slowly for the first
:16:04. > :16:09.race. They're coming forward to the starter now. Starts yesterday were
:16:09. > :16:13.exemplary. That's it. Except for one. They're off. In the centre,
:16:13. > :16:17.Absolutlyfantastic first away from up there in the early stages, Agent
:16:17. > :16:26.Archie and Captain Conan settles in third on the inside.
:16:26. > :16:32.North Cape. Darlan. Oscara Dara on the outside. The white face of
:16:32. > :16:36.Prospect Wells just in advance of those. Followed next in the field
:16:36. > :16:42.by Toughness Danon. They are crawling. They come up towards the
:16:42. > :16:45.first of nine. On the far side, it's Absolutlyfantastic, the first
:16:45. > :16:53.to rise, from on the near side, Agent Archie. Followed by Captain
:16:53. > :17:02.Conan in third. Followed a half length away by North Cape. Oscara
:17:02. > :17:06.Dara followed by Darlan. Toughness Danon. Further back in the field
:17:06. > :17:13.Right Step. Vulcanite giving them a long start. The leader goes to the
:17:13. > :17:16.third and steps over it well. Followed by Theatre Guide in
:17:16. > :17:20.company with Seventh Sky. They've gone very slow early and, as they
:17:20. > :17:28.come up to the judge now with a circuit to go and six to jump, it's
:17:28. > :17:32.Agent Archie who takes it up. Jason Maguire. Out in front. A length and
:17:32. > :17:38.a half away, Captain Conan. Followed further back by North Cape,
:17:38. > :17:42.as they swing left handed towards the back. Followed by Darlan on the
:17:42. > :17:47.inside. Seventh Sky's made some ground out wide. Half a length into
:17:47. > :17:52.Prospect Wells. Oscara Dara is next, followed by Theatre Guide. Right
:17:52. > :17:55.Step is next in the field. Toughness Danon. Half a length to
:17:55. > :17:59.Vulcanite. Only nine lengths covers the field and they are still
:17:59. > :18:04.crawling. Into the back now and towards the fourth and Agent Archie
:18:04. > :18:08.shows the way by three paths. Up in second place, the outside,
:18:08. > :18:12.Absolutlyfantastic who absolutely flew it. Two lengths away, Captain
:18:12. > :18:16.Conan is travelling well. On the outside of Darlan, who's had a
:18:16. > :18:19.perfect trip throughout. Half a length to North Cape deeper on the
:18:19. > :18:25.track. Oscara Dara in the centre. So too is Prospect Wells as they
:18:25. > :18:29.come to the fifth. Followed then out wide by Seventh Sky and Theatre
:18:29. > :18:33.Guide. Oscara Dara lost ground there. Vulcanite going through on
:18:33. > :18:37.the inside is back towards the rear in company with Toughness Danon and
:18:37. > :18:45.Seventh Sky. As they head towards the last one down the back, four
:18:46. > :18:55.out, absolutely Absolutlyfantastic steps out in the lead. Half a
:18:56. > :18:56.
:18:56. > :19:01.length away, North Cape. Captain Conan going well. Prospect Wells.
:19:01. > :19:04.Oscara Dara. Theatre Guide. Seventh Sky. Further back in the field,
:19:04. > :19:09.Right Step. Six lengths between first and last as they race up the
:19:09. > :19:14.side towards the entrance to the home straight. Absolutlyfantastic
:19:14. > :19:18.shows the way. A bit of bumping as Captain Conan goes in the second.
:19:18. > :19:23.Prospect Wells goes third. Darlan is quick there as well. Deeper on
:19:23. > :19:26.the track follows Theatre Guide, followed by Oscara Dara, reading
:19:26. > :19:34.between horses. They come into the straight with three left to jump
:19:34. > :19:38.and Absolutlyfantastic flew the third last. Captain Conan. Darlan.
:19:38. > :19:43.Prospect Wells. The white face on the near side. At the second last
:19:43. > :19:49.now, Darlan jumped to a narrow lead from Captain Conan. Followed in
:19:49. > :19:55.third by Prospect Wells. Vulcanite has made up huge ground. One left
:19:55. > :20:01.to jump. Darlan. Captain Conan the near side. Darlan has now hit the
:20:01. > :20:07.top of that. Captain Conan in second. Darlan from his stable mate
:20:07. > :20:15.Captain Conan, 100yarbdz left to go and Darlan is going to win the
:20:15. > :20:21.first by four lengths. Captain Conan is second. Third, Prospect
:20:21. > :20:27.Wells from Oscara Dara, Vulcanite, a gap then Absolutlyfantastic. They
:20:27. > :20:32.were followed by Theatre Guide and then Right Step. Further back is
:20:32. > :20:40.Seventh Sky. Then Agent Archie. Followed by Toughness Danon. North
:20:40. > :20:50.Cape is the last to finish. The winner of the Tangle Teezer Top
:20:50. > :20:55.
:20:55. > :20:59.Novices' Hurdle is Darlan ridden by AP McCoy. A one two for Nicky
:20:59. > :21:04.Henderson as he tries desperately to try and reel in Paul Nicholls
:21:04. > :21:09.who had such a good day yesterday with a cross-country treble. He's
:21:09. > :21:19.made inroads there. 28,000 for the winner and 10,000 for second.
:21:19. > :21:22.
:21:22. > :21:29.Oscara Dara's finish fourth so a prize for that. Darlan. The colours
:21:29. > :21:35.that McCoy will also wear tomorrow. Lovely shot of Darlan who didn't
:21:35. > :21:40.jump that cleanly early on. Awkward at the fourth hurdle but keeps
:21:40. > :21:43.picking up. He's an amazing ride from AP McCoy. He looked like he
:21:44. > :21:48.was under pressure. He almost pulled up, gave the horse a bit
:21:48. > :21:58.more confidence. What will that have done to the in-running market?
:21:58. > :22:01.
:22:01. > :22:05.I know! Nicky there. Back in front with Paul Nicholls. Paul picked up
:22:05. > :22:10.third prize money but Nicky with first, second and fourth. He's a
:22:10. > :22:16.sweet little horse, Darlan. Looks more like a flat horse. Captain
:22:16. > :22:19.Conan looks like a chaser. You were pointing out that fire service iffy
:22:19. > :22:23.jumping. McCoy scraping the paint though, going right round the
:22:23. > :22:27.inside and he has the speed. It wasn't a great pace early on and
:22:27. > :22:31.that helped Darlan because he was quicken where Captain Conan perhaps
:22:31. > :22:36.keeps going on a long stride in the same rhythm. Captain Conan ran a
:22:36. > :22:40.very nice race and Nicky is looking forward to him next season. This
:22:40. > :22:47.horse used to be trained by Aidan O'Brien. Very successful stallion
:22:47. > :22:49.and going places. AP was on the radio with me last night. He was so
:22:50. > :22:54.interesting about the Grand National and what he thinks the
:22:54. > :22:57.horses that he thinks have chances and what he thinks of synchronised.
:22:57. > :23:01.He thinks it's 1-20 in the Grand National, don't even look below
:23:01. > :23:06.that, the winner will come from the top half from 1-20. If you want to
:23:06. > :23:09.listen to that programme again, it's available on the iPlayer.
:23:09. > :23:15.Nicky Henderson coming back towards the winners' enclosure and he'll be
:23:15. > :23:21.very satisfied after that. Good chances still to come. Could be
:23:21. > :23:27.Nicky's day. This is coming towards the fourth. He sort of cat jumps?
:23:27. > :23:36.Yes, just got in close with his own method and lost no ground at all.
:23:36. > :23:41.That was such a heavy fall he had at Newbury as well. Captain Conan
:23:41. > :23:49.taking off like a chaser. completely different horses all
:23:49. > :23:52.together. At one time, it looked like Captain
:23:52. > :23:56.Conan was going the best as they swung into the straight. That's why
:23:56. > :24:00.I thought the confidence of McCoy was interesting of not going after
:24:00. > :24:05.the horse, he didn't want a long ding-dong batsle, he wanted to come
:24:05. > :24:09.back, wait and go for speed. puts his feet right into the
:24:09. > :24:15.stirrup irons, I'm not an advocate of this toe iron job. AP usually
:24:15. > :24:25.rides just on the ball and slants the iron a little bit to get
:24:25. > :24:29.
:24:29. > :24:33.about he hates the idea that anyone thinks he's going soft. So when he
:24:33. > :24:38.had the bad fall with a punctured lung, his one thought was, I'm not
:24:38. > :24:46.being taken away from here on a stretcher, I'm going to walk back.
:24:46. > :24:50.And he did. He's an incredible athlete. No doubt about that. May
:24:50. > :24:56.have been incensed by a newspaper headline as well, just might have
:24:56. > :25:03.given him a bit more determination to prove to those who thought that
:25:03. > :25:11.he might be soft that he wasn't. I don't think anybody did. JP McManus
:25:11. > :25:16.there giving his winner of the first, Darlan, a pat. Been going
:25:16. > :25:22.incredibly well. Went well in the race at Newbury then crashed two
:25:22. > :25:29.out which was unfortunate. He's got a lovely head on him. St Leger
:25:29. > :25:39.winner. A really good athlete. Travelled well. Let's check the
:25:39. > :26:03.
:26:03. > :26:07.He's relishing the moment. AP McCoy obscured there but explaining to
:26:07. > :26:16.owner JP McManus that this horse travelled beautifully throughout.
:26:16. > :26:22.Frank Berry there, racing manager for JP. He's behind them. And the
:26:22. > :26:27.traditional pictures they pose for. Nicky Henderson a happy man, a one,
:26:27. > :26:31.two, four in the first race. This is going to go right to the wire,
:26:31. > :26:41.this trainer's battle between Nicky and Paul Nicholls, the defending
:26:41. > :26:46.
:26:46. > :26:56.champion. Some interesting tussles to come, I'm sure. Later on, Nicky
:26:56. > :26:57.
:26:57. > :27:02.has good runners, Finian's Rainbow coming up. Giorgio Quercus. As the
:27:02. > :27:04.explanations go on after the win there, let's cross to Rishi down in
:27:04. > :27:10.the Paddick. Darlan was just enjoying a lovely
:27:10. > :27:15.drink of water after his very easy win in our opening race. Nicky
:27:15. > :27:18.Henderson getting a debrief from Tony McCoy. Nicky Henderson has
:27:18. > :27:22.been busy because he's had the first, second and fourth. Just
:27:22. > :27:27.trying to jump in now. Congratulations. Had a lot of
:27:27. > :27:32.debriefing to do with three of the four places. How impressive was he
:27:32. > :27:38.today considering it was a slow gallop at the start start?
:27:38. > :27:42.always expect them round here to go a good gallop. In fairness, all the
:27:42. > :27:46.boys said there was no pace so they've all been queuing up on the
:27:46. > :27:51.back of it. It was going to be a bit of a dash, but it was just nice
:27:51. > :27:55.to see both those two horses off what was going to be a sprint
:27:55. > :27:59.actually quicken up and go away like they did. I think they are two
:27:59. > :28:04.seriously nice horses and it's a pity one had to get beat. I hate
:28:04. > :28:10.beating one's own, but they're two horses to look forward to.
:28:10. > :28:14.Darlan a champion hurdler? I think one day he'll jump fences. He's a
:28:14. > :28:18.big horse and he's got a lot of physical development in him still.
:28:18. > :28:22.I suspect he might stay over hurdles, but we've only just
:28:22. > :28:27.brushed that for the moment. We've got all summer to think about that.
:28:27. > :28:30.Before we bring in Tony McCoy, a word on the trainers' Championship.
:28:30. > :28:34.How much are you enjoying this battle? It will be fun. A long way
:28:34. > :28:38.to go, a lot to play for, we'll keep trying. Well done. Thank you
:28:38. > :28:41.very much. Tony, well done. Thank you. First of all, how
:28:41. > :28:44.inconvenienced do you think you were by the slow early pace?
:28:44. > :28:50.probably didn't help him. Do you know what, he's a horse that we
:28:50. > :28:54.thought a lot of and he was going very well last time and got a heavy
:28:54. > :28:58.fall. At Cheltenham, it knocked him. He was a very good jumper before he
:28:58. > :29:02.fell and I think it knocked his confidence a little bit. He got a
:29:02. > :29:07.bit far back at Cheltenham, didn't jump as well as he did at Newbury
:29:07. > :29:11.before he fell. It knocked him, then he stayed on well. Today, I
:29:11. > :29:16.wanted to ride him handy and felt a few times he didn't just as well as
:29:16. > :29:20.he had done. I think he won because he's a good horse, I don't think...
:29:20. > :29:24.I think I got a better feed off him at Newbury. He won and it's great
:29:24. > :29:28.that he won and hopefully he has the potential to be a very good
:29:28. > :29:31.horse. We'll see. Nicky suggested over fences maybe one day. A
:29:31. > :29:35.Champion Hurdle next season? We'll have to wait and see and speak it
:29:35. > :29:39.through with Frank and JP and see what they think. What he does do is
:29:39. > :29:43.normally travels very well in a race and he can obviously quicken
:29:44. > :29:47.up off the slow pace. He stays very well but it's a big step up from a
:29:47. > :29:50.novice to being a Champion Hurdle. You can only dream. I think he has
:29:50. > :29:55.enough size and scope that he will make a chaser so there are options
:29:55. > :30:00.for him. Some timeious get a horse that is a Champion Hurdle and there
:30:00. > :30:05.are no option, but there is with him. It's nice for him after the
:30:05. > :30:15.heavy fall, fair play to the horse for coming back from it. Thank you
:30:15. > :30:15.
:30:15. > :30:25.because I thought that put Nicky Henderson back in front, but it
:30:25. > :30:31.
:30:31. > :30:41.our next two races, AP receiving his trophy there, JP McManus in the
:30:41. > :30:41.
:30:41. > :30:46.background as well and sponsored by Top Teezer Direct.
:30:46. > :30:50.Well, one thing that both AP McCoy and JP McManus really appreciate is
:30:50. > :30:54.the history of racing, and particularly of this meeting and of
:30:54. > :31:04.the Grand National, but nobody knows it all better than Sir Peter
:31:04. > :31:07.
:31:07. > :31:12.O'Sullivan. Here's the latest in the anduls of the Grand National
:31:12. > :31:18.was the mystifying collapse of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother's
:31:18. > :31:23.horse Devon Loch. Just 40 yards from the line victory looked an
:31:23. > :31:27.absolute certainty. A stunned crowd willing home a Royal winner could
:31:27. > :31:32.scarcely believe what they were witnessing. Commentating for BBC
:31:32. > :31:37.Radio, I shared their sentiments and echoed the description of the
:31:38. > :31:44.amazing scenes. A hundred yards to go - Devon Horse
:31:44. > :31:51.- oh! Devon Horse has gone down! He has been passed. Marvellously stoic,
:31:51. > :31:55.as was her way, the Queen Mother simply commented "Oh, that's
:31:55. > :31:59.racing." Under the circumstances, it was amazing grace, and she was
:31:59. > :32:07.also quick to congratulate the winning connections. As for the
:32:07. > :32:17.distraught jockey, Dick Francis went on to rise from his despair to
:32:17. > :32:21.write a series of best-selling horses do over the years, that is
:32:21. > :32:25.the most extraordinary. It happened just in the shadow of the water
:32:25. > :32:28.jump. Still a lot of debate as to why he took off to jump an
:32:29. > :32:34.imaginary fence. Did he see the fence in the corner of his eye? Did
:32:34. > :32:39.he think he had something to jump? Did he hear the crowd roar what
:32:39. > :32:42.they thought was a certain win for the Queen Mother? Nobody will know,
:32:42. > :32:49.and Dave Dick, I asked him once years ago, he was a lovely plan -
:32:49. > :32:53.what did you think when you saw Devon Loch go down like that? He
:32:53. > :32:56.said "Bloody marvellous", a typical jockey's reaction. We have been
:32:56. > :33:02.talking a lot about the modifications made to the courses,
:33:02. > :33:04.but also the money invested, a quarter of a million pounds by
:33:04. > :33:12.Aintree in increasing the veterinary facilities that are
:33:12. > :33:16.available, and our correspondent racing industry make sure all the
:33:16. > :33:19.horses running today in this meeting, including those over the
:33:19. > :33:23.Grand National fences, are in the best possible condition so that we
:33:23. > :33:28.know none of these horses are taking risks. The first initiative
:33:28. > :33:31.is that these horses entering the Grand National have to meet strict
:33:31. > :33:36.entry criteria in order to enter the race. There is then a second
:33:36. > :33:41.tier of inspection. All of those entrys that are accepted are then
:33:41. > :33:44.reviewed by an Aintree review panel to make sure all the entrys are
:33:44. > :33:48.safe jumpers. Then what you are seeing here this morning is the
:33:48. > :33:52.third level of safety. These animals are all inspected on the
:33:52. > :33:57.day. Their legs are palpated for signs of injuries and the horses
:33:57. > :34:02.are trotted up and down to ensure they're sound, moving correctly, so
:34:02. > :34:05.that on the day of running we know these horses are all fit and not
:34:05. > :34:09.putting themselves at an increased risk. These are the Olympic
:34:09. > :34:13.athletes of our sport. Some of them do pick up injuries from time to
:34:13. > :34:17.time. What we're doing is making sure none of those horses go into
:34:17. > :34:22.the race carrying injuries that could be potentially harmful to
:34:22. > :34:26.them. When the horse trots, we're making sure to see the way the
:34:26. > :34:33.horse moves is symmetrical. Let's have a look at this fella trotting
:34:33. > :34:36.towards us. What do you make of it? What I can see this horse is moving
:34:36. > :34:39.symmetricly. I suspect the veterinary surgeon inspecting is
:34:39. > :34:43.probably going to be quite satisfied with the horse's movement.
:34:43. > :34:47.I don't know what he observed or palpated, but certainly the way the
:34:47. > :34:50.horse moved, there are certainly no grounds for concern there. Will you
:34:50. > :34:55.ever really be able to remove the element of risk that is always
:34:55. > :34:59.going to be there? Of course you can't. You can't totally remove
:34:59. > :35:03.risk. Racing is a competitive sport, as in human competitive sports,
:35:03. > :35:06.there are risks. The regulators, the British racehorsing authority
:35:06. > :35:12.and the organisation that are running this event, Aintree Race
:35:12. > :35:15.course, what we must do is try to identify these risks and mitigate
:35:15. > :35:18.them, minimise them, make sure we're doing everything we can to
:35:18. > :35:22.make sure the horses are in the best possible condition and the
:35:22. > :35:26.course and the conditions in which they run are as safe as possible
:35:26. > :35:31.for those animals. The explanation of what's exactly going on here,
:35:31. > :35:36.then the jockeys get their leg up. Barry Geraghty is one of the most
:35:36. > :35:41.senior jockeys in the weighing room. You would be quick to know if a
:35:41. > :35:47.horse wasn't right and pull it up for the race? That's right. That's
:35:47. > :35:51.your first inspect, as a kid, to pull him up. You have two exciting
:35:51. > :35:55.rides to come, Finian's Rainbow in two races' time - he's a horse that
:35:55. > :36:01.seems to have got slightly easier maybe to ride, thank God? Yeah, he
:36:01. > :36:04.was very keen last year as a Novice. If he'd settled better in the Arkle
:36:04. > :36:07.he might have won that but he's settling better now. I am really
:36:07. > :36:11.looking forward to him. In terms of Solix in the next, what do you
:36:11. > :36:16.think? He's a good chance. He didn't jump as well at Cheltenham.
:36:16. > :36:22.I felt the fences were coming at him quick. He made a few mistakes.
:36:23. > :36:26.Just going a bit slower, hopefully he'll run well. Umbrellas are being
:36:26. > :36:35.put up all around us. The rain is coming. I don't know how long it
:36:35. > :36:39.will fall for, but what chance will that have for your ride Sha
:36:39. > :36:45.kalakaboomboom in the Grand National tomorrow? I would say
:36:45. > :36:49.we'll have beautiful ground unless we get a lot of rain. Do you get
:36:49. > :36:54.the feeling when you know you're on a good one? What are your thoughts
:36:54. > :36:58.about tomorrow? He was sixth in the Topham. We felt that was sharp for
:36:58. > :37:03.him. The sixth will suit him. We think he'll travel. He jumps well.
:37:03. > :37:07.With luck in running, we'll win. Barry is one of a team of jockeys.
:37:07. > :37:11.They're all good friends because they know how dangerous it is. They
:37:11. > :37:18.also have good senses of humour, so we have been trying to ask them
:37:18. > :37:22.some different questions. I'd be a horse. A cat to sleep all
:37:22. > :37:28.day. Probably be an eagle. I'd be a tiger - on the prowl.
:37:28. > :37:34.A horse in the Grand National. Galileo. I would like to be a dog
:37:34. > :37:40.probably. They get looked after well in this country. My missus'
:37:40. > :37:44.dog because he's spoiled rotten. bird. Um... Just to fly, freedom,
:37:44. > :37:52.no traffic. I'd have to be a rat. Probably a fly on the wall, you
:37:52. > :37:58.know, ladies' locker room. Sadler's Wells. Tom Scudamore saying
:37:58. > :38:03.Sadler's Wells. Some of the jockeys that aren't riding until later just
:38:03. > :38:13.chilling out, having a good stretch and waiting for their chance later
:38:13. > :38:16.on. That's Tom O'Brien, who is going to be riding in our next. We
:38:16. > :38:21.have the John Smith's Mildmay Novices' Chase, but first, we'd
:38:21. > :38:25.like to confirm the field for the Grand National. Reserves might have
:38:25. > :38:35.come in up until 9.30am this morning. They did not. So this is
:38:35. > :38:35.
:38:35. > :40:48.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds
:40:48. > :40:52.the worst, but my company's got better because we have David Yates
:40:52. > :40:55.here, the newsboy of the Daily Mail and top tipster. What have you made
:40:55. > :40:58.of this year's Grand National field? I can never remember a
:40:58. > :41:01.boring national jumper. This year I think it's particularly exciting.
:41:01. > :41:07.We have a Gold Cup winner in Synchronised which we don't have
:41:08. > :41:12.every year. We also have Ballyrock, of course, -- BaliBriggs and Mon
:41:12. > :41:17.Mome, a previous winner as well. It's always a fascinating race, and
:41:17. > :41:21.this year even more so. What do you fancy? I have got down to a short
:41:21. > :41:25.list of three. Killyglen I thought was interesting, the Irish
:41:25. > :41:28.challenger, used to be a bit quirky when he was trained in the UK by
:41:28. > :41:34.Howard Johnson, now trained in Northern Ireland, came down late in
:41:34. > :41:39.the race last year, was going well. Sunnyhillboy is interesting, stable
:41:39. > :41:43.hill companion of Synchronised. He's not very big, but he's a
:41:43. > :41:48.Cheltenham Festival winner last month. He's a horse often appearing
:41:48. > :41:54.late on the scene in the Handicaps. I think if he gets a rhythm and
:41:54. > :41:58.takes to the fences, I could see him coming home strongly. Do you
:41:58. > :42:02.think the race is different than previously? Yeah, going back to the
:42:02. > :42:08.races I watched in the early to mid '70s then the ones dealt with
:42:09. > :42:12.professionally in the '80s and '90s - well, '90s - the 11-stone rule
:42:12. > :42:15.used to be something you could build your house on because hardly
:42:15. > :42:21.anything ever won with more than that. That's not so true now
:42:21. > :42:25.because the horses are given lenient ratings towards the top.
:42:25. > :42:28.You used to be able to rule out the top third. The bottom third just
:42:28. > :42:35.weren't good horses, then you would concentrate on the middle 20.
:42:35. > :42:38.for today for the people at home? think Finian's Rainbow in the 3.05
:42:38. > :42:42.and Cotton Mill. Thank you very much.
:42:42. > :42:46.You can tell from the shots behind David and John how heavy that rain
:42:46. > :42:51.shower was. It has just eased off. Gosh, for people who have come
:42:51. > :42:58.without a mac, coat and umbrella, I just feel for them. Hopefully, it
:42:58. > :43:02.will stop again soon. It does feel like a passing shower. The runners
:43:02. > :43:12.are down there for the next live race. They're having fun, aren't
:43:12. > :43:40.
:43:40. > :43:50.they? Let's take a check of them Silviniaco Conti, 13-8. 7-4 is the
:43:50. > :43:51.
:43:51. > :43:56.and let him go to get onboard Solix. This is him cantering down to the
:43:56. > :44:00.start. He gives the horse a bit of chance on this. If you look at the
:44:00. > :44:03.ratings he comes out just about the best of this. He does make a lot of
:44:03. > :44:07.mistakes when he's jumping. really sets him back because this
:44:07. > :44:11.horse has an awful lot of ability. The problem is around this track
:44:11. > :44:14.it's so tight around here, you make a mistake, you have to make up
:44:14. > :44:17.ground, make another - they keep getting away from you all the time.
:44:17. > :44:22.There is no doubt he's got a lot of ability. Let's have a quick spin
:44:22. > :44:26.through some of the others. This is Silviniaco Conti. Ruby Walsh has
:44:26. > :44:30.chosen him instead of Join Together. He had the choice of the two, and I
:44:30. > :44:37.am pretty certain that Ruby Walsh hasn't actually been on him for any
:44:37. > :44:42.of his four wins in this country - yet. Yeah, he rode this horse when
:44:42. > :44:46.he finished second at Kempton. Ruby Walsh really liked him on that
:44:46. > :44:50.occasion. He's a smart horse. They have always felt flatter track
:44:50. > :44:54.suits him better. He's not really big - you can see him alongside the
:44:54. > :44:57.others. Champion Court is a massive horse. Silviniaco Conti - ruby had
:44:57. > :45:00.to choose between him and Join Together. Join Together, a little
:45:00. > :45:04.horse, but he'll love this rain. That's Join Together in the
:45:05. > :45:10.foreground. But let's have a look at Champion Court. A lovely shot of
:45:10. > :45:18.Allen coming out on to the course. This one is trained by Martin
:45:18. > :45:23.Keithley. He has been such a star. He finished second to Sedechion,
:45:23. > :45:29.who could win the Gold Cup next year. Mullins said that when he was
:45:29. > :45:31.interviewed for Radio Five Live. He races prominently, ridden
:45:31. > :45:36.aggressively, should stay, a solid jumper.
:45:36. > :45:39.So for you, he's the choice? Yeah, he's pretty solid, but I would be
:45:39. > :45:43.willing to give Join Together a chance. Jim?
:45:43. > :45:53.That's it. They're off and running, setting off here over three miles
:45:53. > :45:59.and a furlong and a good pace early, and Join Together - Jacob in first
:45:59. > :46:04.- they almost collided - they did collide. No damage done, and he
:46:04. > :46:08.leads with ears pricked. Thomas is giving him a wide berth as they go
:46:08. > :46:12.over the second, an open ditch. They're followed by Champion Court
:46:12. > :46:17.behind, further back in the field is Solix and last is Silviniaco
:46:17. > :46:21.Conti. So some strange antics in the early stages, and they've
:46:21. > :46:25.swapped positions now, and on the far side is Yes Tom. On the near
:46:25. > :46:29.side, Join Together. Coming towards the next, and they jump it. They
:46:29. > :46:33.were both spring heeled at it, three lengths in advance of
:46:33. > :46:36.Champion Court followed by Silviniaco Conti, the outside, and
:46:36. > :46:42.Solix on the inner. Richard Dunwoody, the early stages there, a
:46:42. > :46:46.bit of a bumping duel. I shouldn't thinkpad pad was too pleased with
:46:46. > :46:50.Darryl Jacob at the first, but they have sorted themselves out, and
:46:50. > :46:57.Paddy has rightly moved to the inside. He'll be happy enough with
:46:57. > :47:02.that as they turn now down the back straight. They have settled into a
:47:02. > :47:08.nice racing rhythm and Yes Tom with ears pricked bowling along. Darryl
:47:08. > :47:12.Jacob on the inside in the checked cap. Behind them in third Champion
:47:12. > :47:16.Court. Solix got right into that one. Barry Geraghty, and didn't
:47:16. > :47:20.lose that much ground, but a mistake as they head now towards
:47:20. > :47:26.fence number five, and on the near side it's Yes Tom, the grey here
:47:26. > :47:29.for Paddy Brennan leads by a half length, in the inside, Yes Tom, in
:47:29. > :47:32.too tight there and went right through the top of that behind them
:47:32. > :47:36.in the centre, Champion Court lulling along. Solix has made some
:47:36. > :47:42.ground on the inside in the black cap as they come to the second open
:47:42. > :47:46.ditch now. Out wide, Silviniaco Conti jumped that well on a tight
:47:46. > :47:51.rein. They continue their journey to the seventh. It's Yes Tom on the
:47:51. > :47:54.near side who leads, jumps it well, all over safely from in second Join
:47:54. > :47:59.Together. A length-and-a-half further back, Champion Court, the
:47:59. > :48:03.centre, a half to Solix and a half further back Silviniaco Conti, and
:48:03. > :48:07.it's on the inside Yes Tom who leads them out of the back. Yeah,
:48:07. > :48:11.Ruby is taking his time on Silviniaco Conti. Barry, as they
:48:11. > :48:15.come to this fence down the side missed the first down the back, and
:48:15. > :48:19.then really made his mind up at the ditch, and he's jumped the next two
:48:19. > :48:23.- jumped it pretty well, so they're all - all the jockeys will be quite
:48:23. > :48:27.happy at the moment. So we're at the halfway point. They have jumped
:48:27. > :48:31.eight, and they swing into the home straight now, and on the inside Yes
:48:31. > :48:35.Tom. Paddy Brennan shows the way from Join Together, Darryl Jacob.
:48:35. > :48:40.In behind them Solix. The inside, Barry Geraghty. Champion Court on
:48:40. > :48:44.the near side as they go over the ninth, and last is Silviniaco Conti,
:48:44. > :48:49.Ruby Walsh, but has the leaders well and truly in his sights as
:48:49. > :48:55.they come towards the third of five ditches, and Yes Tom steadying at
:48:55. > :48:58.it, and outjumped there on the outside as he goes up there. Join
:48:58. > :49:01.Together takes over. Solix wasn't fluent at all back in the field on
:49:01. > :49:05.the inside. Heading up the home straight to the one that'll be the
:49:05. > :49:10.next - next time around, and the leader, far side, Yes Tom, near
:49:10. > :49:16.side is Join Together. They come towards the 11th now with ears
:49:16. > :49:22.pricked, and it's Yes Tom who gets over it in the lead by an 11th and
:49:22. > :49:25.a half. As they go up to the judge, a circuit remaining. In second,
:49:25. > :49:29.join followed by Champion Court, Solix on the inside, then
:49:29. > :49:32.Silviniaco Conti. They're about six lengths off the pace. He's now
:49:32. > :49:36.starting to accelerate - Paddy Brennan just trying to inject a
:49:36. > :49:40.little bit of pace. Inject a little bit of pace down the back, and
:49:40. > :49:45.Solix missed the ditch, second, last that last circuit, and his
:49:45. > :49:50.jumping will be really tested now as they turn down the back. I would
:49:50. > :49:53.really be sat on Champion Court. He got in close with a circuit to go
:49:53. > :49:59.and fiddled it well. Paddy Brennan is really trying to stretch him
:49:59. > :50:02.down did back, really grabbed hold of his horse there. Over the 12thth.
:50:02. > :50:06.Champion Court travelling well. Another plain fence, and Yes Tom
:50:07. > :50:09.the leader on the inside. Join Together is still there, Champion
:50:09. > :50:14.Court and Silviniaco Conti going up on the inside on a tight rein. In
:50:14. > :50:18.behind them is Solix as they continue their journey towards the
:50:18. > :50:23.fourth open ditch, number 14 overall, and Yes Tom on the inside,
:50:23. > :50:27.steadies at it, gets in too tight, mistake there by Join Together.
:50:27. > :50:30.Silviniaco Conti has jumped up on the inside to join them, a reminder
:50:30. > :50:35.for Join Together, and Champion Court going well in behind as they
:50:35. > :50:40.go over five out. They're clear, then, of Solix. As they prepare to
:50:40. > :50:44.leave the back, Darryl Jacob giving a reminder to Join Together who
:50:44. > :50:48.takes it up clearly now. Yes Tom has dropped out the backdoor.
:50:48. > :50:52.Second is Silviniaco Conti. It's a one-two at the moment for Paul
:50:52. > :50:56.Nicholls as they leave the back and race towards the cross fence four
:50:56. > :50:59.out. On the outside, Join Together, Silviniaco Conti. Out wide making a
:50:59. > :51:03.line of three now is Champion Court, who has gone up on the outside to
:51:03. > :51:07.put the pressure on. Silviniaco Conti the leader around the turn,
:51:07. > :51:10.followed on the outside, Champion Court going well. They're four
:51:10. > :51:15.lengths in advance of Join Together, a long gap then to the other two.
:51:15. > :51:17.Into the home straight now with three left to jump - far side
:51:17. > :51:21.Silviniaco Conti, near side Champion Court, and Champion Court
:51:21. > :51:24.not fluent at that. They were clear then of in third place Join
:51:24. > :51:30.Together as they come up towards the last ditch. This is the second,
:51:30. > :51:33.last coming up, and on the far side, Silviniaco Conti. Near side now,
:51:33. > :51:37.Champion Court - he's got a task now to reel this leader in. He's
:51:37. > :51:40.under the whip. They're well clear and have joined together. They come
:51:40. > :51:46.now with one left to jump. Ruby Walsh going for home now on
:51:46. > :51:49.Silviniaco Conti. It's Silviniaco Conti mostly clear for in front of
:51:49. > :51:51.Champion Court - may have run his race. One left to jump. Silviniaco
:51:51. > :51:54.Conti is over the last. APPLAUSE
:51:54. > :51:58.And he's home. In second is Champion Court. Further back in the
:51:59. > :52:06.field and in third is Join Together. Up towards the line, Silviniaco
:52:06. > :52:11.Conti, Ruby Walsh, is going to go on and win the John Smith's Mildmay
:52:11. > :52:14.Novices' Chase in style, Champion Court, in third, Join Together, a
:52:14. > :52:17.one-three for Paul Nicholls, and still coming down the track Solix,
:52:17. > :52:22.Nicky Henderson's runner, back in fourth, and in fifth and last
:52:22. > :52:30.position, Yes Tom, trained in Ireland by Roy Wilson and ridden by
:52:30. > :52:37.Paddy Brennan. So the winner of the John Smith's Mildmay Novices' Chase
:52:37. > :52:42.- first is number three, Silviniaco Conti ridden by Ruby Walsh. Second,
:52:42. > :52:46.number one, Champion Court and third, number two, Join Together,
:52:46. > :52:53.Darryl Jacob. Fourth, number four, Solix, ridden by Barry Geraghty,
:52:53. > :52:59.and the winner, trained by Paul Nicholls, was the 7-4 favourite,
:52:59. > :53:03.Ruby Walsh, the winning jockey in our second race.
:53:03. > :53:07.Winning trainer Paul Nicholls. Paul, you missed Cheltenham with this
:53:07. > :53:10.horse, and it seems that's paid off. Yeah, he's a good horse. I was
:53:10. > :53:15.really disappointed when he ran at Ascot and stopped two out. Of
:53:15. > :53:19.course, all the horses were wrong. He was wrong. We purposely left him
:53:19. > :53:25.to come here. He's a young horse, he's improving. I really look
:53:25. > :53:30.forward to next year with the three-mile chase. He's in form. He
:53:30. > :53:33.was behind him at Kempton. Looks well for the future. He was ridden
:53:33. > :53:38.with a lot of confidence. I suppose you and Ruby Walsh have always
:53:38. > :53:43.thought well of him. Yeah, he's frsh and well. Lorraine said to me
:53:43. > :53:48.he was the best he's been all year. Everything is right today. Do you
:53:48. > :53:52.think he could be a Gold Cup horse? It's a long way off. Step by step.
:53:52. > :53:58.He's a young horse, a long way off at the moment. It's a trainers'
:53:58. > :54:01.battle - one for you, one for Nicky, one for you. Every little one
:54:01. > :54:06.counts. It's going to be interesting over the next two weeks
:54:06. > :54:14.- it's good for the sport, and it's we're good mates will, have a lot
:54:14. > :54:18.of fun over the week. Well done. That's another 50 grand into the
:54:18. > :54:21.pot for him. Ruby Walsh, so cool, kept this horse wide, kept him out
:54:21. > :54:26.of any trouble. I think the crucial moment - the moment the race was
:54:26. > :54:29.run was here at the third, last because the two of them come to it
:54:29. > :54:34.upsides - Silviniaco Conti and Champion Court, and Champion Court
:54:34. > :54:37.just paddles through it and loses two lengths. Yes, but in the end
:54:37. > :54:42.the margin of victory was quite good. Was there a bit of team
:54:42. > :54:48.tactics when he came off the bend and kicked for it? Of course he
:54:48. > :54:56.wanted to win, but it didn't do demiharm to the winner did, it?
:54:56. > :55:00.And Ruby Walsh made the right choice between this horse and the
:55:00. > :55:07.other. The rain making conditions pretty difficult for the jockeys.
:55:07. > :55:10.Your vision gets slippery. Your goggles get wet. He won easily in
:55:10. > :55:13.the home, but going to the last, he wasn't going for medals. The stride
:55:13. > :55:18.wasn't there, so he just sat and held because it's so important -
:55:18. > :55:22.you hit a fence by the roots, the whole complexion changes. We nearly
:55:22. > :55:26.had an incident at the very first fence. We'll have another look at
:55:26. > :55:29.that because Join Together on the inside closest to the camera and
:55:29. > :55:33.Yes Tom collide in midair because Join Together jumps to the right.
:55:33. > :55:38.He does. Look. He's seen the stride, but he was stretched going...
:55:38. > :55:41.word. You know, very easily there Paddy Brennan could have been
:55:41. > :55:45.knocked out of the saddle, but how clever of him because he now
:55:45. > :55:48.switches to the inside. He says, that's not going to happen again.
:55:49. > :55:52.Solix made a mistake at the fourth and the 10th. Barry Geraghty was
:55:52. > :55:57.pretty easy on him when it looked like his chance had gone. He has
:55:57. > :56:01.finished, but a long, long way behind. This horse is the winner
:56:01. > :56:07.and will continue to progress, I suspect, Silviniaco Conti.
:56:07. > :56:11.He is indeed progressive. That's for sure. And Richard, the way Ruby
:56:11. > :56:16.was riding there, he was oozing confidence all the way. Always,
:56:16. > :56:21.just sat there with a double handful. He was very disappointed
:56:21. > :56:26.in the Reynolds Town. He jumped away timely that day. It was nice
:56:26. > :56:30.to see how well this horse stayed today, got did trip well. He showed
:56:30. > :56:33.so much promise as a hurdler. I remember at Ascot early in his
:56:33. > :56:37.career he was absolutely brilliant there. He had always showed
:56:37. > :56:43.glimpses that he could be something special. I think he's really now on
:56:43. > :56:47.the upward curve again. The form is looking pretty good, isn't it?
:56:48. > :56:51.Bobsworth finished third that day. All three of those horses are real
:56:51. > :56:55.class horses. So there he is. He'll be having a
:56:55. > :56:59.nice old bucket of water here, make him feel a bit better.
:56:59. > :57:09.Let's have a look at the result of the 2.30pm, the John Smith's
:57:09. > :57:22.
:57:22. > :57:27.struck up such a useful and successful partnership, and they
:57:27. > :57:32.understand each other well, and Ruby flies over to ride Paul's
:57:32. > :57:35.horses whenever he can in this country while still riding for
:57:35. > :57:41.Mullins in Ireland. He's managed well in Ireland, but looks like
:57:41. > :57:45.he's going to lose the Championship there this year and can never
:57:45. > :57:51.challenge AP for numbers in quality... Is that important?
:57:51. > :57:55.wants to be champion jockey every year, but he made the choice,
:57:55. > :57:59.quality over quantity. Didn't he ride quietly, quietly with this
:57:59. > :58:05.horse early on? While they were all battling each other, he was just
:58:05. > :58:08.eyeing them all up. Let's get his reaction now.
:58:08. > :58:12.How impressive were you with Silviniaco Conti today? He jumped
:58:12. > :58:16.really well, travelled really well. I thought Champion Court was a good
:58:16. > :58:23.yardstick, and he's beat him really well. He's only six. Paul said he
:58:23. > :58:27.has more improvement to come. Could he possibly be Gold Cup class?
:58:27. > :58:33.track like Cheltenham, maybe next April, but he's going the right way,
:58:33. > :58:39.anyway. What's the conditions like? Cold - perfectly safe, and he's
:58:39. > :58:43.good to ride on. Well done. Cheers. The rain just stopping again. You
:58:43. > :58:51.can see the bookmakers' umbrellas are still up down there. This the
:58:51. > :58:59.situation - the Trainers' Championship - Paul Nicholls, 2.4
:58:59. > :59:02.million and Nicky Henderson 2.34. Various courses have their names,
:59:02. > :59:06.Beech's, Valentine's and the rest of them only one is named after a
:59:06. > :59:16.horse because of an incident back in 1967, and here is Peter
:59:16. > :59:22.
:59:22. > :59:30.obstacle caused the biggest upset in national history? A mass pile-up
:59:30. > :59:36.at the 23rd fence allowed a 101 outsider to bypass the stricken
:59:36. > :59:43.field and run on to a shock victory. The incident has long since been
:59:43. > :59:48.immortalised in the distinctive commentary of Michael O'Hara.
:59:48. > :59:52.OLD NEWSREEL: He has fallen. Another horse has fallen. It's a
:59:52. > :59:55.right pile-up. The situation emphasised to me the
:59:55. > :00:01.value of research. The commentator and I went to the weighing room to
:00:01. > :00:05.double check race colours and agree on the pronunciation of horses'
:00:05. > :00:11.names. Michael saw John Buckingham in his racing silks and said
:00:11. > :00:21."That's not one of ours, was it?" I replied it was and the horse is
:00:21. > :00:26.
:00:26. > :00:30.Grand National history. This is where it happened. I don't know
:00:30. > :00:40.what they are going to call this one in the future. They might call
:00:40. > :00:44.this the Foinavon fence. And indeed it is the Foinavon fence, named
:00:44. > :00:47.after the horse that won the race in 1967, the only one that managed
:00:47. > :00:52.to negotiate it safely. The smallest fence on the course and
:00:52. > :00:55.caused a bit of trouble yesterday in the Fox Hunters. They take their
:00:56. > :01:01.jumping. Until 2009, Foinavon was on his own, the longest priced
:01:02. > :01:06.winner of the Grand National ever at 100-1. In 2009, mon moan came
:01:06. > :01:10.along and won and that is one of the former winners who will line up
:01:10. > :01:13.tomorrow in the 2012 running of the John Smith's Grand National. We
:01:13. > :01:17.have talked about horse welfare and the improvements that have been
:01:17. > :01:22.made there. What about jockeys' welfare, how are they treated if
:01:22. > :01:27.they get injured in a fall? Ian Bartlett has been finding out.
:01:27. > :01:32.Jump jockeys might be the iron men of sports, but they have to
:01:32. > :01:37.occasionally come into the medical room where I am with the senior
:01:37. > :01:42.doctor, Dr Ian Roberts and Richard Dunwoody. How often did you end up
:01:42. > :01:48.in the medical room? I had one particularly bad meeting here, I
:01:48. > :01:51.think it was about 92 93, six falls and three winners, so I was a
:01:51. > :01:55.regular visitor there in the old weighing room. The facilities here
:01:55. > :01:59.though, I have to say, look fantastic. Doctor, seven of you
:01:59. > :02:06.here, is that right? Yes. And quite a few ambulances on the way round
:02:06. > :02:10.for the jockeys as well? Yes, today we've got five and tomorrow we'll
:02:10. > :02:15.have seven, but usually we have two for the flat meetings and three for
:02:15. > :02:19.the jumps. Obviously we hope none of the jockeys end up in here, but
:02:19. > :02:24.obviously apart from broken bones or whatever, what sort of injuries
:02:24. > :02:29.do they pick up, sprains and things? Yesterday, we had 17
:02:29. > :02:35.fallers, so you can imagine that that logistically is something to
:02:35. > :02:39.cope with. Obviously, we've fully covered that. Yesterday was an
:02:39. > :02:44.injured ankle, a concussion and soft injury where a jockey had been
:02:44. > :02:48.kicked in the chest. So from 17 fallers, we had three people that
:02:48. > :02:52.needed treatment. It was a busy day, we hope you don't have one today or
:02:52. > :02:55.tomorrow. Richard, a top quality facility for the riders, they can
:02:55. > :03:00.be very pleased if anything goes wrong for them? That's right. The
:03:00. > :03:03.best of treatment. Let's hope we don't see them here. Seven doctors
:03:03. > :03:08.on duty for the couple of days of the Grand National meeting. Sadly
:03:08. > :03:14.for Mick, you know that doctor particularly well? Yes, I do. I was
:03:14. > :03:18.staring up at him when I broke my neck here four years ago now. But I
:03:18. > :03:22.can only say, without the professional care of the paramedics
:03:23. > :03:25.and the people on site here, I would be paralysed. Well, many
:03:25. > :03:32.people may remember if they were watching the Grand National last
:03:32. > :03:38.year in one of the earlier races, there was the most horrific fall
:03:38. > :03:42.and injury to Peter otool. You have seen him recently, how is he doing?
:03:42. > :03:46.-- O'Toole. I went to see him the day after that fall and it's scary.
:03:46. > :03:49.When you see someone who you know who's very lively lying there
:03:49. > :03:54.unable to communicate with anybody and to see him 12 months later up
:03:54. > :04:01.and around, flying, having physio every single day. He's in Lambourn
:04:01. > :04:05.at a new facility that the Injured Jockeys' Fund put together. The
:04:05. > :04:08.improvement in him is massive and he's still got a long way to go,
:04:08. > :04:11.but he's in the right place to improve. Doesn't regret having
:04:11. > :04:15.chosen the life of a jockey? Absolutely not. Can't wait to get
:04:16. > :04:19.back on a horse. It's amazing, the bravery of them and the ones you
:04:19. > :04:25.will see lining up in the Grand National tomorrow are the bravest
:04:25. > :04:32.of all. Ruby Walsh won it on his first attempt on pab-on, then on
:04:32. > :04:40.Hedgehunter and he has a great chance tomorrow. -- Papion. The
:04:40. > :04:46.presentation taking place there. The presentation is being made by
:04:46. > :04:51.Mr Daley and Mr Irvine of the Cavern Club in Liverpool. He's got
:04:51. > :04:54.an iPad or an iPad cover. That's really nice! I'm always very

:05:06. > :05:09.in it! Yes. We are trying today to give you an idea of how some of the
:05:09. > :05:12.runners are being prepared for the Grand National. We'll be looking
:05:12. > :05:19.through the runners and trying to pick a winner and they'll be
:05:19. > :05:24.putting their finger on Treacle. Trained by Tom Taff in County

:06:21. > :06:28.presented to your father. I suppose every time you walk up here, you

:06:33. > :06:38.it's in your face, you do that. When the house is quiet, you have
:06:38. > :06:43.an appreciation of what happened in those years and it encompasses a
:06:43. > :06:49.lot. How much of your dad and Arkle do you appreciate? You know what,
:06:49. > :06:55.it's when you are racing now and all of the comparisons are being
:06:55. > :07:00.made to Arkle. That's when you realise. He obviously was the
:07:00. > :07:04.greatest. Comeencomeen Arkle going away now. Hs the champion --
:07:04. > :07:12.COMMENTATOR:. This is the champion. Arkle is the one. I said it myself.
:07:12. > :07:18.There is a picture of me riding him when I was two. I knew he felt like
:07:18. > :07:22.a good horse! We grew up in a family where - I'm not being cocky
:07:22. > :07:27.saying this - when we'd get a few days off because Cheltenham would
:07:27. > :07:30.be on and we'd get a few days off and there was no big deal if there
:07:30. > :07:34.was a treble the first day, a treble the second day and won the
:07:34. > :07:40.Cup the last day. It was unusual if you came home without winning three

:07:45. > :07:50.I didn't overdo it yesterday, but did just enough and I'm happy.
:07:50. > :07:54.does Treacle fit the bill for the National? He's the right type of
:07:54. > :07:58.horse for Aintree. He's intelligent and can get into a rhythm. It's not
:07:58. > :08:03.all just about jumping, it's about avoiding loose horses. The first
:08:03. > :08:07.big challenge is the first, third fence and then the next big
:08:07. > :08:11.challenge is Becher's, the sixth fence. If you can get into a rhythm
:08:11. > :08:15.down over the six fences, things begin to settle down normally after
:08:15. > :08:17.that. We'll be just hunting around trying to mind our own business and
:08:17. > :08:23.whatever is going to unfold will unfold.
:08:23. > :08:30.And there is Treacle. He's arrived here. He'll spend the night in the
:08:30. > :08:35.racecourse stables and line up with Andrew Lynch on his back. He's
:08:35. > :08:41.about 20-1. He's lovely. Not walking out of the box door which
:08:41. > :08:44.crowds absolutely buzzing trying to select what they think can win this.
:08:44. > :08:49.The next race is the John Smith's Melling Chase. In terms of quality
:08:49. > :08:54.and prize money, it's the top race of the day and we have a field of
:08:54. > :08:59.eight in it, including Finian's Rainbow who won the Queen Mother
:08:59. > :09:04.chase last time out at Cheltenham. They had to come around the last
:09:04. > :09:06.fence and it was a real arrangey baji between them. A brave
:09:06. > :09:16.performance by Finian's Rainbow. Can he do the same here? Let's take
:09:16. > :09:27.
:09:27. > :09:33.mount. Finian's Rainbow, Queen Mother Champion Chase winner at
:09:33. > :09:38.Cheltenham. Geraghty aboard and a valuable runner for Henderson.
:09:38. > :09:48.Forpadydeplasterer, winner of the 2009 Arkle at Cheltenham. Cooper
:09:48. > :09:48.
:09:48. > :09:54.rides. Kalahari King loves fast ground. Had injury worries. Kauto
:09:54. > :09:58.Stone, not nearly as good as his half brother, Kauto Star. This
:09:58. > :10:04.horse is capable. Six is Poquelin. Ruby Walsh wearing the famous
:10:04. > :10:12.family colours again. Unseeded in this race in 2010. Pure Faith. A
:10:12. > :10:16.winner over these fences here at Aintree. Hasn't won for a long time.
:10:16. > :10:22.Wishfull Thinking, Richard Johnson has plenty of talent but fell at
:10:22. > :10:32.Cheltenham last time. So your favourite for this is Finian's
:10:32. > :10:48.
:10:48. > :10:55.20,000 Finian's Rainbow. Good luck to that punter.
:10:55. > :11:00.I wanted to say happy birthday to you. Your 60th birthday to you. You
:11:00. > :11:04.should be celebrating? Should be yes, probably shouldn't be here.
:11:04. > :11:08.The big celebration would be if Albertas Run could win this? Yes,
:11:08. > :11:14.he's in great form, come out of chelt national nam really well and
:11:14. > :11:18.we could have done without the rain really -- Cheltenham really well.
:11:18. > :11:24.It is what it is and he's in great shape and I hope he'll put on a
:11:24. > :11:28.great show. He's come out all right. Gosh, he battled in Cheltenham.
:11:28. > :11:33.home, you would be thrilled with him. He's fresh and well in himself
:11:34. > :11:41.really. Hasn't done a whole lot since but he's in great shape and
:11:41. > :11:45.he's fresh. The rain may not be in his favour but may be in favour of
:11:45. > :11:53.Synchronised? Not too much rain for him really, you know. We know how
:11:53. > :11:59.he goes on better ground as well and the more you think, the things
:11:59. > :12:02.will go better. Good luck and happy birthday. Come over here. This is
:12:02. > :12:07.the Goat Syndicate. They own Forpadydeplasterer who we are
:12:07. > :12:11.hoping - hello, lovely to see you again - we are hoping he'll spring
:12:11. > :12:15.back to some form? I think our horse has improved a lot since
:12:15. > :12:19.Cheltenham and we are here to win. Listen, I'm enjoying this. This is
:12:19. > :12:24.very, very sensible. This is the cheap way to do the Mac. We are
:12:24. > :12:28.going to christen it, St Patrick's Day will be brought forward to
:12:28. > :12:36.Friday 13th if it wins today. biggest cheer will come from your
:12:36. > :12:41.lot. Thank you. Good luck. We'll see how Forpadydeplasterer looks in
:12:41. > :12:45.the paddock. I would love one of those, thank you, although this is
:12:45. > :12:49.waterproof. Thank you. Forpadydeplasterer hasn't won since
:12:49. > :12:59.2009 when he won the Arkle. He's got to put that record right. Let's
:12:59. > :12:59.
:12:59. > :13:06.take a look at the other horses. Coming to our right is the Champion
:13:06. > :13:11.Chaseer Finian's Rainbow. This horse is ridden out every day. The
:13:11. > :13:14.trainer is very happy with him and he said no worries about the rain.
:13:14. > :13:20.What about Kauto Stone, Kauto Star's half brother? Looks nothing
:13:20. > :13:24.like Kauto Star but he looks well. Paul Carberry won on this horse, so
:13:24. > :13:29.it's a winning team. Let's try and find a horse that you like,
:13:29. > :13:32.Wishfull Thinking. He's trained by Phillip Hobbs, hasn't had the best
:13:32. > :13:37.of seasons but was very impressive when he won here last year. There
:13:37. > :13:42.is a twinkle in your eye when you talk about him? I spoke to Richard
:13:42. > :13:46.Johnson last year. He said this horse seems to have come back to
:13:46. > :13:50.himself. Phillip Hobbs had a winner yesterday. He looks a picture in
:13:50. > :13:54.the paddock and he hasn't looked well all season, so maybe this
:13:54. > :13:57.fella comes at the right time of the year. Nasty incident in
:13:57. > :14:00.Cheltenham where he crashed through the railings. Into one of the
:14:00. > :14:05.photographers and sent him to hospital with a cut eye, yes, but
:14:05. > :14:10.this horse didn't have a hard race because he fell early. Maybe he
:14:10. > :14:14.comes here slightly fresher. We have Kalahari King. At one time
:14:14. > :14:20.he was on the verge of being very, very good over two, two-and-a-half
:14:20. > :14:25.miles and they never quite cut the grade and he's now a bit old?
:14:25. > :14:33.I think he's a horse that is a nearly horse. Maybe his chance has
:14:33. > :14:37.gone. Maybe his chance has gone. We are going to see Kauto Stone and
:14:37. > :14:42.Wishfull Thinking. Pure Faith, number seven ran really well
:14:42. > :14:49.earlier in the season against Albertas Run and Mastermind? Yes,
:14:49. > :14:57.will he belie his odds on this occasion too? What do you think?
:14:57. > :15:07.looks good. Always Waining too. Pick of the paddock is Wishfull
:15:07. > :15:31.
:15:31. > :15:35.Thinking? Is it Wishfull Thinking though? We'll find out very soon.
:15:35. > :15:40.The horses are just getting themselves into order for the
:15:40. > :15:45.parade. Poquelin will probably lead the parade going out because he's a
:15:45. > :15:50.fizzy horse, isn't he, Richard? and he has special dispensation to
:15:50. > :15:55.lead the parade. He doesn't look too worked up there though, Clare,
:15:55. > :16:02.does he? Very settled. Dan hanging on to him, been the trainer for six
:16:02. > :16:05.or seven years or longer. He was withdrawn at the start at
:16:05. > :16:10.Cheltenham because there was some blood come trg his mouth. I'm not
:16:10. > :16:18.sure they could work out whether he'd bitten his tongue. The vet
:16:18. > :16:22.withdrew him at the start so he comes here effectively fresh.
:16:23. > :16:26.coming from his mouth. Ruby Walsh rides on his own tomorrow in the
:16:26. > :16:30.big race, the Grand National. Trying to keep the horse calm and
:16:30. > :16:39.not to get too excited. Here is the wonderful Albertas Run. Came so
:16:39. > :16:44.close to recording a fourth win at the Cheltenham Festival and a third
:16:44. > :16:52.in -- a third. Runner up in this last year.
:16:52. > :16:58.Finian's Rainbow. Trained by Nicky Henderson. He won the champion by a
:16:58. > :17:03.length and a half. Forpadydeplasterer hasn't won a
:17:03. > :17:07.race since he took the Arkle in 2009 but has been a model of
:17:07. > :17:17.consistency finishing second in five grade ones.
:17:17. > :17:18.
:17:18. > :17:23.Kalahari King hasn't won since Doncaster in February 2010. Behind
:17:23. > :17:28.him an interesting ride for Paul Carberry, Kauto Stone, a half
:17:29. > :17:32.brother to Kauto Star. Made a good impression on his debut.
:17:32. > :17:38.Disappointing since then. Then we've got Pure Faith. The boys were
:17:38. > :17:48.saying they were looking so well in the paddock, 100-1, but Tom O'Brien
:17:48. > :17:50.
:17:50. > :17:53.will run him like he's favourite. Number eight is Wishfull Thinking.
:17:53. > :17:56.He fell at the Champion Chase last time, Wishfull Thinking. I stood by
:17:56. > :18:00.the fence and he came sideways through the fence and Richard
:18:00. > :18:10.Johnson was badly injured but still rode again that week. They are so
:18:10. > :18:27.
:18:27. > :18:34.tough. Here is the market at the very good horses in his time,
:18:34. > :18:44.including Hedgehunter. -- Hemm iz ngs. McCoy is looking around there
:18:44. > :18:51.
:18:51. > :18:54.as if something's happened or maybe have hit a rail I'm hearing. I
:18:54. > :18:59.don't know whether we have that incident or not, but we'll show it
:18:59. > :19:05.to you if we have. The rain has stopped now. Just
:19:05. > :19:08.going back to Albertas Run, just a brilliantly brave horse and the
:19:08. > :19:14.only fear you would have. He's only had two runs this season. The only
:19:14. > :19:20.fear you would have is that it may have taken too much out of him at
:19:20. > :19:29.Cheltenham. A hard race. I love watching this horse. He won the
:19:29. > :19:33.last chase that I sat on. Oh, yes. Let's look at see what
:19:33. > :19:36.happened. This was Finian's Rainbow as he came out to canter down.
:19:36. > :19:40.bit fresh. He went smashing straight into that rail. My word!
:19:40. > :19:47.Barry's done very well to sit on him there. And so lucky that we now
:19:47. > :19:51.have the plastic rails and not the old concrete ones. Wow! That would
:19:51. > :19:58.have been serious if it was the old style wooden rails and concrete
:19:58. > :20:03.posts. Absolutely. Finian's Rainbow looks
:20:03. > :20:07.settled now. Out of character? bit keen and gas si though. We were
:20:07. > :20:11.talking to Barry earlier and he was saying how much more settled he is,
:20:11. > :20:17.hopefully he will be in the race but not on the way to the start. If
:20:17. > :20:20.Nicky Henderson's eight runners down to the race, seven have
:20:20. > :20:27.finished unplaced. Very rare he does have such a bad record. In
:20:27. > :20:32.fact his last win in the race was with Remittance Man in 1992.
:20:32. > :20:35.think that was me too. 20 years ago. He came here after winning the
:20:35. > :20:39.first Champion Chase. A bit of statisticical form for you there
:20:39. > :20:44.for Finian's Rainbow. I wonder whether that an incident like that
:20:44. > :20:54.has any effect in the betting ring when people see that? Finian's
:20:54. > :21:17.
:21:17. > :21:22.Hasn't had an effect, no. -- money for Poquelin.
:21:22. > :21:27.That was a good run behind the giant bolster at Cheltenham in
:21:27. > :21:30.January. He didn't run too badly at all there. I think he's got a real
:21:30. > :21:33.good chance here. Ruby Walsh wearing the gold arm
:21:33. > :21:38.band as leading jockey so far this week and riding in the colours of
:21:38. > :21:44.the Stuart family who own Big Buck who is notched his 17th successive
:21:45. > :21:51.win yesterday. Let's have a close look at Kauto Stone, he looks
:21:51. > :22:00.nothing like his half brother Kauto Star. Nice to see Paul Carberry
:22:00. > :22:05.pick up a good spare. He gave that hoshes a fantastic ride at
:22:06. > :22:13.Cheltenham -- horse. This horse, he fell first in the Champion Chase.
:22:14. > :22:16.He was disappointing at Ascot in February but won last time. Here is
:22:16. > :22:20.Jim. They are off and running setting
:22:21. > :22:26.off over two and a half miles. Albertas Run on the outside toward
:22:26. > :22:31.the first with Poquelin. Jump together. Kauto Stone was a little
:22:31. > :22:34.sticky at it. They head towards the second. Another plain fence.
:22:34. > :22:39.Poquelin on the inside of Albertas Run. A real good gallop early as
:22:39. > :22:47.they come to the second. Three lengths away, Finian's Rainbow who
:22:47. > :22:52.jumps it well. They are over safely. Pure Faith. Forpadydeplasterer. The
:22:52. > :22:56.first open ditch. Kauto Stone the outside. Wishfull Thinking ridden
:22:56. > :23:01.back in the field. In company with Kalahari King. As they come to the
:23:02. > :23:11.fourth, last one down the back on the first occasion, Poquelin flew
:23:11. > :23:15.that. Poquelin tight. Pure Faith travelling on the inside.
:23:15. > :23:19.Forpadydeplasterer. Three parts away then the outside Kauto Stone.
:23:19. > :23:26.A gap then to Kalahari King and Wishfull Thinking. They head down
:23:26. > :23:31.the side now and hit fence number five. Poquelin on the inside. The
:23:31. > :23:36.Stuart family colours, gets over in good style. All over safely. In
:23:36. > :23:40.second, Albertas Run. AP McCoy just pulling down the goggles. Two
:23:40. > :23:47.lengths further back is Finian's Rainbow in third. A gap to Pure
:23:47. > :23:52.Faith. Runs four lengths away for Forpadydeplasterer. Followed by
:23:52. > :24:01.Kauto Stone. Kalahari King and Wishfull Thinking. Poquelin jumps
:24:01. > :24:06.in good style on the inside. Albertas Run. Finian's Rainbow. The
:24:06. > :24:09.second open ditch. Pure Faith. Red and white colours with the nose
:24:09. > :24:14.band, Forpadydeplasterer. Out to regain a bit of form if he can
:24:14. > :24:17.today, hasn't won for a long time, three lengths away is Kauto Stone
:24:17. > :24:22.with Kalahari King and Wishfull Thinking is at the tail of the
:24:22. > :24:25.field. Towards the eighth, the last next time around, and on the inside,
:24:25. > :24:28.Poquelin got in too close. Forpadydeplasterer went through the
:24:28. > :24:32.top of it. All over safely though and this pace has been very good
:24:32. > :24:41.throughout. It will really suit the Stayers. Those who get a very
:24:41. > :24:46.strong two-and-a-half miles in any. Poquelin showing the way. -- two-
:24:46. > :24:50.and-a-half miles in any case. Further back on the inside is
:24:50. > :24:55.Finian's Rainbow. We've got Walsh, McCoy and Geraghty, one, two, three,
:24:55. > :24:59.as they hit towards the back. Two lengths away, Pure Faith, followed
:24:59. > :25:03.by Forpadydeplasterer. Swinging to the back where they started. Kauto
:25:03. > :25:08.Stone back towards the rear. In company with Kalahari King. Half a
:25:08. > :25:14.length to Wishfull Thinking at the ninth. Poquelin on the inside.
:25:14. > :25:18.Joint now and pressured by Albertas Run, this dual Ryanair chase winner,
:25:18. > :25:23.he's applying the pressure now. Finian's Rainbow, the Queen Mother
:25:23. > :25:29.winner is am bling along. The tenth. Poquelin outjumped Albertas Run
:25:29. > :25:34.there and hitting it hard, Finian's Rainbow behind them third, followed
:25:34. > :25:40.by Pure Faith. The third open ditch. Forpadydeplasterer is further back
:25:40. > :25:44.in the field. Followed by Wishfull Thinking. Gone past Kauto Stone. A
:25:44. > :25:50.gap to Kalahari King who is struggling. On the inside, Poquelin,
:25:50. > :25:54.a big jump by Albertas Run on the outside. They're two lengths in
:25:54. > :25:58.advance now. Finian's Rainbow. Two lengths further back, then Pure
:25:58. > :26:03.Faith on the inside of going forward now for Forpadydeplasterer,
:26:03. > :26:09.followed by Wishfull Thinking who is starting a Forward Move. A gap
:26:09. > :26:14.to Kauto Stone is under pressure and forget Kalahari King. Poquelin
:26:14. > :26:20.on the inside of Albertas Run who outjumped him and went to a clear
:26:20. > :26:23.lead. Finian's Rainbow coming strongly now on the turn. Wishfull
:26:23. > :26:29.Thinking has come from the rear and is starting to run well as they
:26:29. > :26:31.straighten up for home. Three left to jump. Albertas Run kicks.
:26:31. > :26:36.Wishfull Thinking. Finian's Rainbow going with him. They jump it well.
:26:36. > :26:40.Three in line here, four lengths for Forpadydeplasterer. Two left to
:26:40. > :26:44.jump. The last ditch coming up. On the inside it's Finian's Rainbow.
:26:44. > :26:47.On the near side, Wishfull Thinking. They jump it together. They touch
:26:47. > :26:50.down together. Albertas Run can't find any more and a gap then to
:26:50. > :26:55.Forpadydeplasterer. As they race up now with one left to jump, a long
:26:55. > :26:58.run before they reach the last and, Finian's Rainbow the far side, the
:26:58. > :27:00.leader. On the near side is Wishfull Thinking. They come
:27:00. > :27:07.towards the last, Finian's Rainbow going well. They come towards it
:27:07. > :27:10.now, he takes off, lands over it safely and he's starting to draw
:27:10. > :27:17.away. Finian's Rainbow, Barry Geraghty, he rode him confidently
:27:17. > :27:25.all the way and goes on to register another valuable win for Nicky
:27:25. > :27:29.Henderson. Second Wishfull Thinking, third Albertas Run, followed by
:27:29. > :27:34.Forpadydeplasterer, further back Pure Faith, then Poquelin who was
:27:35. > :27:39.responsible largely for that very generous pace and Kauto Stone is
:27:39. > :27:45.last to finish. The winner is Finian's Rainbow, number two,
:27:45. > :27:49.ridden by Barry Geraghty, the 13-8 favourite has won the Melling
:27:49. > :27:54.chaste. Wishfull Thinking was second, ridden by Richard Johnson.
:27:54. > :28:04.Third, Albertas Run and Forpadydeplasterer fourth.
:28:04. > :28:09.So, it's Barry Geraghty coming back here on this 13-8 favourite,
:28:09. > :28:15.Finian's Rainbow. 15-2 Wishfull Thinking, 11-4, Albertas Run.
:28:15. > :28:19.That's the one, two, three. And what a classy horse he is. He was
:28:19. > :28:28.travelling well all the way. He'd be very happy I think at the way
:28:28. > :28:31.the race was unfolding, Barry. He did have to ask, as they came to
:28:31. > :28:36.the third last, Wishfull Thinking went around the outside and made it
:28:36. > :28:39.interesting, and he kept a bit back as they went to three out. Two out,
:28:39. > :28:46.a good jump and then it became obvious that he was travelling much
:28:46. > :28:55.the better and he's gone on to win this by seven lengths with 13
:28:55. > :28:59.lengths between second and third. Seven lengths and 13 the distabss -
:28:59. > :29:03.- distances. He hasn't finished out of the first two in his last nine
:29:03. > :29:07.runs now. That's his 14th win in all jumps races, his ninth in
:29:07. > :29:12.chases and his most worrying moment was cantering down to the start
:29:12. > :29:18.when he claided with the rail. In the race, he barely put a foot
:29:18. > :29:22.wrong for Geraghty and rid ard, -- Richard, you were praising him?
:29:22. > :29:27.Barry didn't have a chance. Look at this. He's smacked straight into
:29:27. > :29:32.the rail and that would have been very serious ten or 15 years ago
:29:32. > :29:37.when we had the wooden rails. doing it because he's so fresh and
:29:37. > :29:41.well? Amazing to be that fresh having come out of Cheltenham where
:29:41. > :29:45.he won the Champion chaste. They've had a hand this year, the
:29:45. > :29:49.Cheltenham horses. We've just had the extra week, week and a half and
:29:49. > :29:56.yes, certainly helps that Nicky's done a smashing job to get this
:29:56. > :29:59.horse spot on. As we join them at this stage, it's McCoy and Johnson.
:29:59. > :30:02.Geraghty right in-between them there, sees a lovely stride.
:30:02. > :30:09.Suddenly the horse is back on the bridle and he can sit up and let
:30:09. > :30:13.him get more air into his lungs. Wishfull Thinking came a rattle
:30:13. > :30:17.with Richard Johnson there. Looked a real danger. Here between the
:30:17. > :30:22.last two you could tell Barry's just got it in the bag really.
:30:22. > :30:27.Basically you will you could to do now is meet that last right running
:30:27. > :30:37.and meet it spot on, they do. Now that you can see how well he gets,
:30:37. > :30:42.
:30:42. > :30:46.good over two miles as well, what the King George. I love watching
:30:46. > :30:49.Barry, the loop in his race. He got that horse so settled and certainly
:30:49. > :30:53.from his early days when they had to make the running with him
:30:53. > :30:56.because he was so keen. He was very settled. Barry Geraghty, we spoke
:30:56. > :31:01.to him earlier - she's such a good jockey, he really is, and this
:31:01. > :31:05.horse owned by Michael Buckley. They had disappointment with Solix,
:31:05. > :31:10.but had success here, and can roar him home up the home straight in
:31:10. > :31:19.front of this massive crowd, and a great, great moment for them. Well
:31:19. > :31:24.finish and a wonderful performance here in the John Smith's Melling
:31:24. > :31:27.Chase, the Grade 1 race of the day. It's been won by the horse who took
:31:27. > :31:32.the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He follows up
:31:32. > :31:33.here at Aintree with Barry Geraghty onboard, owned by Michael Buckley,
:31:33. > :31:39.trained by Nicky Henderson. He is Finian's Rainbow.
:31:39. > :31:47.APPLAUSE Yeah, he's a class act this horse.
:31:47. > :31:52.He'll be a King George horse. That's for sure. His performance at
:31:52. > :31:56.Kempton earlier in his career was a real eye catcher. He made a bad
:31:56. > :32:01.mistake at Kempton. That was at the second day of the Christmas meeting,
:32:01. > :32:05.and he hit it so hard, he seemed to lose all chance. He dropped right
:32:05. > :32:10.back. He went right around them and went on to win courageously, and
:32:10. > :32:13.since then, he's kept progressing. He got beaten at Ascot, but he won
:32:13. > :32:23.at Cheltenham in quite controversial circumstances because
:32:23. > :32:23.
:32:23. > :32:30.they had to bypass the last fence. This is the way they are for the
:32:30. > :32:40.Trainers' Championship - Nicky Henderson having won that race, and
:32:40. > :32:45.
:32:45. > :32:50.the difference is 24,100-odd, so not much in it. 2,46 - 2,468,000,
:32:50. > :32:56.Paul Nicholls, 2,44,000, Nicky Henderson, so absolutely nothing in
:32:56. > :33:01.it, and if either of them happen to win the Grand National tomorrow,
:33:01. > :33:07.that would absolutely clinch it - a huge prize.
:33:07. > :33:17.Total prize money of 975,000. Right. Let's have a look at the
:33:17. > :33:28.
:33:28. > :33:36.details of this John Smith's won 32,500.
:33:36. > :33:41.Connections once again having their photograph taken. A great follow-up.
:33:41. > :33:44.Barry Geraghty is going to go and weigh in. We'll try to get a word
:33:44. > :33:48.with Michael and Nicky. Congratulations, Michael, Nicky,
:33:48. > :33:52.well done. What a super horse he is. He's pretty special. Were you
:33:52. > :33:55.worried at all coming here today, the fact he was stepping up to two-
:33:55. > :33:58.and-a-half miles? Actually, I wasn't, to be honest with you. The
:33:58. > :34:04.ground is probably on the soft side for him now, but he's very relaxed
:34:04. > :34:07.now, and I think he acts like the stayer we always thought he would
:34:07. > :34:13.be really. How far he'll say I have no idea. Nicky will tell you that.
:34:13. > :34:17.He's becoming a real man now, isn't he? I think I have just seen - last
:34:17. > :34:24.year as a novice he was trying to do everything in a terrible rush -
:34:25. > :34:30.flat-out in the Arkle. I think he had a hard race at the - Cheltenham.
:34:30. > :34:34.Barry said he grew up at the third last, but he grew up last summer
:34:34. > :34:37.for some reason. He suddenly became a sensible person, didn't he? This
:34:37. > :34:41.season he's been a much more amenable horse all the way through
:34:41. > :34:47.it. He's doing everything like a sensible person instead of trying
:34:47. > :34:51.get from A to B as fast as he can. Barry was more confident about him
:34:51. > :34:57.staying two-and-a-half miles than Moscow Flier, and he won the race
:34:57. > :35:01.twice. Yeah, you always expected this fellow to stay, hoped he would.
:35:01. > :35:06.It was suddenly last year he did the out-and-out mile, doing it in
:35:06. > :35:09.such a rush. But this time he was so comfortable, just behind them,
:35:09. > :35:12.and you hoped he was in cruise control. I think he probably was.
:35:12. > :35:16.When he switched it on, then I think he did pick it up very
:35:16. > :35:20.quickly. Will it be the two-mile route with him again next year?
:35:20. > :35:23.Will there be talks about possibly taking in, I don't know, the King
:35:23. > :35:25.George? I don't know. We have a long summer to think ability, but
:35:25. > :35:30.luckily enough, we're in a nice enough position to think about
:35:30. > :35:33.those sort of things. He's won the Champion Chase. He won this. He
:35:33. > :35:37.goes to bed with all the medals. Have do you have any thoughts on
:35:37. > :35:42.next year? I am going to try to enjoy the rest of today I think. I
:35:42. > :35:45.must say Cheltenham was a bit of a blur. I don't remember too much
:35:45. > :35:53.about it. So I am going to try and remember this one, particularly
:35:53. > :35:56.your smiling face. Very sweet. Well done.
:35:56. > :35:59.Doctoringly, Aden McGwire, we're going to talk to him later, he sold
:35:59. > :36:05.this horse. I'm going to ask him about it. But a great result there
:36:05. > :36:09.for Finian's Rainbow and huge celebrations - funny, Michael
:36:09. > :36:13.Buckley saying he can't remember the Cheltenham Festival at all.
:36:13. > :36:16.loves Cheltenham and the fact this horse won for him - he said he had
:36:16. > :36:20.so many disappointments there, to finally win a big one was special.
:36:20. > :36:25.What's your view on this horse and what he might be able to ultimately
:36:25. > :36:28.achieve? He's done plenty already. He has done plenty already. We're
:36:28. > :36:33.talking about next year already. We're already thinking about next
:36:33. > :36:37.March. The work - he's nice - bare bay, interestingly, had gone off
:36:37. > :36:41.this horse when he won him first time at Kempton he said this horse
:36:41. > :36:45.wants a real trip now. Everybody was scratching their head thinking,
:36:45. > :36:53.last year he barely got two miles. He was so free this year he's so
:36:53. > :36:57.much more switched off. He can stay. It might depend as well on what
:36:57. > :37:02.Sprinter Sacre does and obviously they're wanting to take him on from
:37:02. > :37:07.the same yard. He wants a challenge. As Nicky says, if this horse should
:37:07. > :37:09.run a Champion Chase, may the best horse win. We're focusing on the
:37:10. > :37:13.jockeys. We have plenty of ex- jockeys on the team, but what about
:37:13. > :37:23.the guys in are riding at this meeting? What do they really
:37:23. > :37:29.
:37:29. > :37:36.would be myself. Dishonest people. Probably the Prime Minister.
:37:36. > :37:43.Rudeness. CVs. Stuck on plane for a couple of hours. Probably the sauna.
:37:43. > :37:47.My taxi. Probably traffic jams. John McCririck. The taxman. A few
:37:47. > :37:51.presenters. David Cameron followed by the tax bond petrol. Taxes if
:37:51. > :37:54.you could. An awful lot of concern there for
:37:54. > :37:58.the jockeys having to pay their tax. Everybody has to.
:37:58. > :38:02.But it's interesting - if there's ever a thing to put those sort of -
:38:02. > :38:05.you know, we asked them a question that invited them to moan, but to
:38:05. > :38:10.put those things into perspective, it's what you and a few of the
:38:10. > :38:15.jockeys went to do this morning. Yeah, went to see children in Alder
:38:15. > :38:19.Hey. To see how brave these kids are - it's unbelievable to see them.
:38:19. > :38:25.These are all children with very serious illnesses. Very serious.
:38:25. > :38:30.There is one little child there - 18 months old, and it's - look at
:38:30. > :38:39.that. Paddy Brennan was really taken with him. There is little
:38:39. > :38:44.Joshua - really nice. And it's the first time that jockey has been...
:38:44. > :38:48.Yeah. For the jockeys, they put themselves in the position of the
:38:48. > :38:51.parents, and suddenly, it becomes very vivid. It becomes - does
:38:51. > :38:54.racing really matter? Does it matter whether I win or lose this
:38:54. > :38:58.afternoon? Because look at these people. All they're worried about
:38:58. > :39:02.is their kids, just making sure they're going to have a life.
:39:02. > :39:06.think it's such a good tradition that's built up. I know you and AP
:39:06. > :39:10.McCoy have very much driven it, but so pleased to see the number of
:39:10. > :39:14.jockeys wanting to do it increasing. I think they realise what a
:39:14. > :39:18.humbling experience it is and do they really want to imagine
:39:18. > :39:22.themselves being put in that position? They see the bravery of
:39:22. > :39:26.these little kids, some of them a year and two years of age. They're
:39:27. > :39:31.so brave. The smiles on their faces makes the day. Which reminds you to
:39:31. > :39:35.enjoy the good days when you can, which is why there is such a big
:39:35. > :39:44.crowd here and all of those who are involved in racing and constantly
:39:44. > :39:47.in situations in which they might be racing. Reachy is in the area
:39:47. > :39:52.where they're getting the horses ready - well, the people are
:39:52. > :39:56.getting them ready. Yes. It's a very busy pre-parade
:39:56. > :40:02.ring. One horse who has been here, has done it all before, the Always
:40:02. > :40:05.Waining. He's being saddled up by Peter Bowen, his trainer. He's in
:40:05. > :40:09.the midst of the crowd. We can't see him. We have to keep the
:40:09. > :40:13.walkway clear. He's being saddled up. He won the race before. He's
:40:13. > :40:17.also placed in the race. He has the most tremendous race in this, the
:40:17. > :40:20.Topham. I'm going to try to see if I can grab a quick word with Peter.
:40:20. > :40:24.Is it possible to grab a word with Peter in the corner there? I
:40:24. > :40:28.suppose this horse knows his way around better than you do.
:40:28. > :40:33.should by now, shouldn't he? How is he? Yeah, in good form. He's a
:40:33. > :40:36.hoarse who seems to come alive when he comes here to Aintree. Can you
:40:36. > :40:41.put a reason on why that is? idea. He loves the place. He hasn't
:40:41. > :40:47.been the best of form this season, but will he come alive today?
:40:47. > :40:51.does that every year. A quick word on Sunday City and the chances?
:40:51. > :40:57.good horse, ran well last time out, hopefully will take the fences and
:40:57. > :41:01.run well. Thanks for talking to us. Good luck to Always Waining, a
:41:01. > :41:04.magnificent record in this race, can he win it a third time in a
:41:04. > :41:08.row? I am with somebody here who has won
:41:08. > :41:16.a considerable amount of money and hasn't even won a bet. What have
:41:16. > :41:21.you won? 5,000 cash and 500 Matalan vouchers and makeup.
:41:21. > :41:26.For what? The Star Contest. That's absolutely fantastic. What are you
:41:26. > :41:29.going to spend the money on? haven't a clue, to be honest. I am
:41:29. > :41:35.still in shock, but I am going on holiday towards the end of the
:41:35. > :41:39.month. That should contribute to my spends. I hear you weren't
:41:39. > :41:42.considering entering. I wasn't, to be honest. I was walking towards
:41:42. > :41:48.the winners' enclosure and one of the stylists said I should enter.
:41:48. > :41:53.Here I am now. And your outfit is, what, vintage? It is. It's '50s
:41:53. > :41:56.vimting a. You're living near my old stomping ground. From where?
:41:56. > :42:00.Liverpool. This week I should imagine you'll be in the Elephant
:42:00. > :42:06.for a couple of drinks. I will be. I hate to say this to a lady, but
:42:06. > :42:12.you're single, aren't you? Thanks, John. Yeah, yeah. I am only saying
:42:12. > :42:17.it because you mightn't be for long. Go down the Elephant. She's
:42:18. > :42:24.available! John Parrott, my word. Congratulations to her for winning
:42:24. > :42:33.the most stylish race goer. Many people here will remember this
:42:33. > :42:39.fantastic jockey, who finished in the Grand National - riding this
:42:39. > :42:43.race since... Last summer I rode, but before that, I can't remember.
:42:44. > :42:49.When did you last professionally ride? 1976. I did ride in America
:42:49. > :42:55.out of the stalls, rattling, a horrible place to be. Explain to me
:42:55. > :43:01.why you're riding in this Legends Race tomorrow? It is legends but
:43:01. > :43:08.they have had to lower the race to let me in. It's because it's for
:43:08. > :43:14.cancer. Last year they raised 100,000. A mile and five. Are you
:43:14. > :43:19.going to ride? I don't know. I am riding for Alan King. I am hoping
:43:19. > :43:23.for a big one. I hope to win. would be fantastic on Grand
:43:23. > :43:27.National day. I was here last year. I was lucky enough to witness Jason
:43:27. > :43:31.winning the National. We had a runner in the National ourselves.
:43:31. > :43:36.It's great to be here. And great to be here on the day Finian's Rainbow
:43:36. > :43:40.has run. That's fantastic. My young boy Finney, who he was named after,
:43:40. > :43:48.it's his birthday today. Brilliant. You had him and you sold
:43:48. > :43:54.him? Yeah. We bought him from Gough Sales. He was a four-year-old
:43:55. > :44:00.unbroken. He ran going absolutely bolt up - overknuckled in landing,
:44:00. > :44:05.and John Edwards was very soon afterwards wanting to know was he
:44:05. > :44:11.for sale? Getting back to the race, not only is this your first ride in
:44:11. > :44:19.public, it's your first ride since having a serious operation. Donated
:44:19. > :44:24.a kidney weeks ago, and it works perfectly, and the person who I
:44:24. > :44:29.donated to I have never met is back working. The doctor said I am not
:44:29. > :44:34.sure we should let you lose. I said, "I'll go at the outside at the
:44:35. > :44:39.back." He said, "Jockeys always get there. You'll be up there pushing
:44:39. > :44:42.in." I met the doctor. The first thing he said to me trade was
:44:42. > :44:46."Don't think you'll get your licence back by riding tomorrow."
:44:46. > :44:50.Good luck to both of you tomorrow. Good luck. Enjoy did whole buzz of
:44:50. > :44:56.it as well. It will be great. you. We'll be showing the Legends
:44:56. > :44:59.Race tomorrow afternoon. It will be at ught 1.00pm and building up all
:44:59. > :45:03.afternoon to the Grand National, and coming up now we have the race
:45:03. > :45:06.for professional jockeys, and they get a chance to jump a circuit of
:45:06. > :45:16.the Grand National course, the course that is so often identified
:45:16. > :45:24.
:45:24. > :45:29.the Grand National. Marvellous, marvellous, marvellous.
:45:29. > :45:38.They come to the elbow. It's still wide open. First, number ten,
:45:38. > :45:44.Ballabriggs at 14-1. It's incredible! I don't know how I feel.
:45:44. > :45:46.Sex is an anti-climax after that. OLD NEWSREEL: He's passed the
:45:47. > :45:56.winner. OLD NEWSREEL: At last it's Tony
:45:56. > :46:00.McCoy at the 15th attempt. Devon Loch has gone down.
:46:00. > :46:06.Absolutely unbelievable. I think I am dreaming. I really do.
:46:06. > :46:10.OLD NEWSREEL: Red Rum wins the National. What do you think about
:46:10. > :46:20.it now, huh? I think it's bloody marvellous.
:46:20. > :46:25.
:46:25. > :46:35.it will be at 4.15pm tomorrow afternoon. Here we go with the John
:46:35. > :46:36.
:46:36. > :48:14.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds
:48:14. > :48:16.your favourite is Little Josh at it's a double-edged sword, though,
:48:17. > :48:21.because jocks have hurt themselves in the past, and it's a good ride
:48:21. > :48:25.tomorrow in the National. The thing is all of these lads are really
:48:25. > :48:30.looking forward to it. I can see Ryan Mania, the horse we're looking
:48:30. > :48:34.at here, David Bass, Chance du Roy. He's looking forward to his ride on
:48:34. > :48:38.Sunday City. Arthur Moore has had some good rides in this race. He
:48:38. > :48:44.really loves the buzz. These lads love to get a little taster of what
:48:44. > :48:52.it's going to be like tomorrow. That's Tartak going out. He's just
:48:52. > :49:02.gone off the boiler. Arklow Ger has gone by, Paul Carberry is having a
:49:02. > :49:06.good season. He rides predominantly for Evans.
:49:06. > :49:10.Nikola is a horse trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies. Is it good to get a
:49:10. > :49:14.feeler for these races tomorrow, or is it a little bit chancey?
:49:14. > :49:18.it's a good thing. I used to love warm-up before arode the race.
:49:18. > :49:22.David Bass will be looking forward to this. I watched this horse when
:49:22. > :49:26.it ran at Warwick last time, very disappointing. He's a horse quietly
:49:26. > :49:31.fancied by the connections. They have quite a few horses dotted
:49:31. > :49:33.around the course. They own Junior. He's dung tied. You can see him
:49:33. > :49:43.salivating a bit. That's a good sign. They need to salivate, don't
:49:43. > :49:45.
:49:45. > :49:50.they? Apt amount we can see there being a little bit troublesome.
:49:50. > :49:55.This horse is very decent. His horses run in some top-class races.
:49:55. > :49:59.You can see he's avoided clashing into the rail. Maybe it would be a
:49:59. > :50:03.good omen, seeing as Finian's Rainbow clattered into it before
:50:03. > :50:08.winning the last race. Is it a sign of I don't want to go out or at the
:50:08. > :50:13.top of my game and really well in himself? I think he's at the top of
:50:13. > :50:16.his race. We can just see them going down.
:50:16. > :50:21.Rain's gone, Claire. That's good. Yeah, it's warmed up. The sun
:50:21. > :50:25.coming out again, and this is the course they'll face. It's two miles,
:50:25. > :50:29.five-and-a-half furlongs. They normally set off fairly fast coming
:50:29. > :50:34.towards that first fence. They're coming down into the grandstands or
:50:34. > :50:38.in front of the grandstand very, very quickly, and the chair comes
:50:38. > :50:42.as their third fence. It's the narrowest fence on the course. That
:50:43. > :50:47.makes it look even bigger, but it is big as well, a 5'2" height and a
:50:47. > :50:51.spread of 11 feet, so they really stretch over that, and then they
:50:51. > :50:54.jump the waterfront in front of the stands, then head off to where the
:50:54. > :50:59.Grand National start is and down that line of fences that all come
:50:59. > :51:05.fairly close together. This is where Tom Taff on Treacle was
:51:05. > :51:11.talking about getting into the rhythm. On The Topham you get a
:51:11. > :51:14.little bit of breathing space, testing this whole line. The thing
:51:14. > :51:19.is you feel like you have so much more time in the Topham because of
:51:19. > :51:23.that. It's not such a hectic run. You're spread out a little bit. You
:51:23. > :51:26.get yourself into a little bit of a pattern. You have. You know you're
:51:26. > :51:29.coming to Becher Chase shortly because there is a hedge on the
:51:29. > :51:34.inside. If you don't know where you are, that's a reminder. Absolutely,
:51:34. > :51:38.and the drop has been levelled out a little bit. But it's still steep.
:51:38. > :51:44.The back ditch has been filled in, and the modification - you can see
:51:44. > :51:47.them from the shot above. You can get around all the fences. That's
:51:47. > :51:50.to allow the loose horses to run around the fences and not get in
:51:50. > :51:54.the way. There is the angle, the canal turn. I am looking for
:51:54. > :51:59.Frankie Figg and Little Josh, confirmed front runners, coming to
:51:59. > :52:02.that, and watch the jockeys come across... They have just passed
:52:02. > :52:07.valentine's which doesn't have the reputation of Becher's yet it is
:52:07. > :52:12.the other end. Back to the race course proper. That's when you know
:52:12. > :52:17.you almost have it within your grasp... Or not. Listen, if you
:52:17. > :52:20.suffer from vertigo, I apologise for this. We go back to ground
:52:20. > :52:23.level. There is the elbow. They jump those two fences. They jump
:52:24. > :52:31.the first and second. That'll be their second last and last, get
:52:31. > :52:41.around the chair, then this long run to the winning post. Over 400
:52:41. > :52:41.
:52:42. > :52:48.yards - I remember them well. you would have won it. A This is a
:52:48. > :52:52.great moment. Little Josh will be suited for this race. It's perfect
:52:52. > :52:54.for him today. It is. Little Josh ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies
:52:54. > :52:59.Twiston-Davies. He's only 18. Congratulations to Willie, his
:52:59. > :53:04.little brother, who switched to being a flat jump runner. He rode
:53:04. > :53:09.his first flat runner the other day at Kempton. He's going to be based
:53:09. > :53:13.with Brian Meehan - down at the start is where we find Ricci.
:53:13. > :53:19.horses at the start have been circling the start. Richard
:53:19. > :53:22.Dunwoody, anything taking your eye? Yeah, I had a word with Ruby. He's
:53:22. > :53:29.really looking forward to riding Frankie Figg. The lads are just
:53:29. > :53:33.getting their goggles down, and - they'll be just probably taking
:53:34. > :53:39.another turn now. Another horse I am really looking forward to
:53:39. > :53:46.watching is Triangular, and he jumps superb at Newbury, and he -
:53:46. > :53:56.is too careful, almost, for French racing, and Dicky is looking to get
:53:56. > :53:59.
:54:00. > :54:04.an inner spot on number four. Chance du Roy. Yeah.
:54:04. > :54:08.Frankie Figg is an exuberant jumper. He's had many falls, but loves to
:54:08. > :54:12.be up there. That is amazing because that horse jumps these
:54:12. > :54:16.fences as well as any horse you'll see, yet his record isn't good.
:54:16. > :54:23.know. It seems to suit him better here than anywhere else. There is
:54:23. > :54:28.that tongue tie - looks like a pair of tights he has on. At Aintree,
:54:28. > :54:32.it's a much wider circuit than anywhere else in the world. We have
:54:32. > :54:35.three commentators in position. Jim McGrath, you may be calling home
:54:35. > :54:40.this horse, Always Waining, which if he wins will be the first horse
:54:40. > :54:44.ever to win the topham three times. That's right. He could be a history
:54:44. > :54:52.maker, clear. They are walking in. That's it. They're coming forward
:54:52. > :55:02.now. The starter has them. Still 20 seconds before the official off-
:55:02. > :55:06.time here, and they can't really go off before the scheduled off time.
:55:06. > :55:11.These days it's not quite as important as it was in yesteryear
:55:11. > :55:15.when a race could be voided if it was off before time.
:55:15. > :55:23.They are just about ready. Moon Over Miami and Montoya's Son are
:55:23. > :55:29.right out the back. They're delaying the start.
:55:29. > :55:33.They're off. Away they go, and at the approach one of the first away
:55:33. > :55:38.Chance du Roy is there, Massini Sunset, Always Waining as they head
:55:38. > :55:42.over the first. A faller there is Fabalu. Fabalu has - no, it's
:55:42. > :55:46.Matuhi. Matuhi is gone in the early stages, so as they head now towards
:55:46. > :55:50.the second, one out of the race and Little Josh led over it from
:55:50. > :55:55.Herecomesthetruth and also up there as well is Aimigayle and just
:55:55. > :55:58.behind them in the centre is Apt Approach. They're followed by
:55:58. > :56:02.Fistral Beach and Always Right. Sunday City as well and Fabalu on
:56:02. > :56:06.the far side as they come now towards the Chair, and Fabalu got
:56:06. > :56:09.over it OK after an approach by the leaders in company there with
:56:09. > :56:14.Chance du Roy, as they're all over the Chair safely. Coming towards
:56:14. > :56:17.the water now, and it's Little Josh who leads over it from on the
:56:17. > :56:25.inside Aimigayle, followed by Herecomesthetruth, and then on the
:56:25. > :56:29.outside Always Right. In be-- Always Waining, then Sunday City,
:56:29. > :56:34.Fistral Beach from Fabalu, Chance du Roy. Out Wye are Triangular and
:56:34. > :56:41.Paradis De Thaix. On the inside of Rio Gael and Frankie Figg is back.
:56:41. > :56:47.Apt Approach behind them. They're followed by Tartak. Further back in
:56:47. > :56:51.the field is Giorgio Quercus as they race over the Meling Road. We
:56:51. > :57:01.join Ian. Aimigayle in the black and red colours. Herecomesthetruth,
:57:01. > :57:03.
:57:03. > :57:10.nose banded and a pink cap, Fabalu. Fistral Beach, right at the back of
:57:10. > :57:15.the field Massini Sunset. The next, number six, and Fabalu behind as
:57:15. > :57:22.the tail enders get over it. Right at the back of the field, Massini
:57:22. > :57:27.Sunset is pulled up. Here is the ditch. Little Josh leading and
:57:27. > :57:36.Aimigayle - Always Right from Sunday City. Douglas Julian made a
:57:36. > :57:40.terrible error but got away with it. Herecomesthetruth behind Aimigayle
:57:40. > :57:48.and at the end is Douglas Julian, also towards the back of the field
:57:48. > :57:53.is Arklow Ger as we join Darren. Going to the one before Becher's,
:57:53. > :57:58.Rio Gael is down, gone there. Heading now towards Becher's, and
:57:58. > :58:03.it is Little Josh in front followed by Always Right, Aimigayle,
:58:03. > :58:07.Montoya's Son, Bai Zhu, they're followed, then Paradis De Thaix,
:58:07. > :58:12.Fistral Beach, Wake Board. Little Josh touches down, and the leaders
:58:12. > :58:15.have taken it safely. Triangular pulls up before Becher's. Little
:58:15. > :58:20.Josh is the leader from Herecomesthetruth, second place.
:58:20. > :58:25.Always Right running a big race, Aimigayle, the inside. They're
:58:25. > :58:30.followed by Fistral Beach, Fabalu blundered badly. The one tailed off
:58:30. > :58:34.is Arklow Ger. The canal turn and Little Josh is out in front by a
:58:34. > :58:41.couple of lengths to Aimigayle, Herecomesthetruth, Always Waining,
:58:41. > :58:48.Chance du Roy. They're followed by Wake Board and Giorgio Quercus and
:58:48. > :58:51.Sunday City at Valentine's. It's Little Josh, Chance du Roy, behind
:58:51. > :58:56.is Frankie Figg followed by Herecomesthetruth. Five to jump now,
:58:56. > :59:00.and we rejoin Ian. Arklow Ger has been pulled up at the back of the
:59:00. > :59:05.field as Chance du Roys with the leader who made an error. Little
:59:05. > :59:08.Josh in the blue. The black is Aimigayle. Herecomesthetruth, the
:59:08. > :59:15.previous winner, Always Waining, Sunday City behind those, then
:59:15. > :59:18.comes Giorgio Quercus. There Frankie Figg made a mistake - Apt
:59:18. > :59:25.Approach, then Chance du Roy and Richard Johnson has taken the lead
:59:25. > :59:29.from in second Little Josh, Aimigayle behind these, then a
:59:29. > :59:35.Tartak is still going at the back of the field. They head now over
:59:35. > :59:42.the Meling Road for the final time. The lead is with Chance du Roy as
:59:42. > :59:46.we rejoin Jim McGrath. Richard Johnson shows the way bid for for a
:59:46. > :59:53.three-timer in this race. They're falling clear as they come towards
:59:53. > :59:56.the clear now. They have two left to jump. It's Chance du Roy from
:59:56. > :59:59.Aimigayle, then Little Josh and Fistral Beach and now coming in
:59:59. > :00:04.strongly is Always Waining followed by Giorgio Quercus. They are clear
:00:04. > :00:06.of Paradis De Thaix and Frankie Figg. They have two left to jump,
:00:07. > :00:10.and it's Chance du Roy who comes to the second, last. He went through
:00:10. > :00:15.the top of it. Aimigayle, the clear second. Fistral Beach going well.
:00:15. > :00:19.Here is Always Waining looming up on the outside. Can he make it a
:00:19. > :00:24.treble? It's Chance du Roy who leads towards the last. He's spring
:00:24. > :00:27.heeled. He lands in the running from on the near side Always
:00:27. > :00:30.Waining, Fistral Beach, a long gap to Paradis De Thaix. Three in line
:00:30. > :00:36.as they race to the elbow, Always Waining on the near side. He grabs
:00:36. > :00:40.the lead now. He senses victory. He's three lengths in front now.
:00:40. > :00:45.It's Always Waining, Tom O'Brien, who is now powering away, and
:00:45. > :00:49.history in the making as Always Waining goes on to win the Topham
:00:49. > :00:53.Chase for the third consecutive year. What a performance, Always
:00:53. > :00:56.Waining trained by Peter Bowen and ridden by Tom O'Brien, Chance du
:00:56. > :01:01.Roy in third, then Fistral Beach, followed then by Aimigayle in
:01:01. > :01:04.fourth, then Paradis De Thaix. They're followed then by Minella
:01:04. > :01:08.Theatre, Apt Approach, then Moon Over Miami, Giorgio Quercus. Behind
:01:08. > :01:15.them is Wake Board. They're followed by Fabalu and then further
:01:15. > :01:18.back Frankie Figg. They're followed by Bai Zhu and behind them is
:01:18. > :01:27.Herecomesthetruth, Montoya's Son is next and further back is Tartak in
:01:27. > :01:34.company with Douglas Julian, and towards the rear, Sunday City and
:01:34. > :01:39.also Nikola. Nikola was pulled up. Peter Bowen, the winning trainer
:01:39. > :01:45.there, absolutely delighted, and so he should be - three wins in the
:01:45. > :01:49.Topham for this horse - what a remarkable horse he is, and it is
:01:49. > :01:54.number ten, Always Waining, Tom O'Brien, the winner, trained by
:01:54. > :01:58.Peter Bowen and owned by Mr and Mrs Peter James Douglas, second, number
:01:58. > :02:04.four, Chance du Roy, Richard Johnson, third, number five,
:02:04. > :02:10.Fistral Beach and fourth, number 16 Aimigayle ridden by Colin Bolger.
:02:10. > :02:20.Early estimates are that 19 horses finished in the Topham, and Rishi
:02:20. > :02:22.
:02:22. > :02:26.rightly so. This horse is amazing at Aintree? Absolutely amazing.
:02:26. > :02:30.Just gives everyone who rides him a great spin around here and I'm
:02:30. > :02:33.absolutely delighted with that. way he's gone around the race, like
:02:33. > :02:37.an old pro, there were other horses travelling equally as well as you,
:02:37. > :02:42.but the way he picked up from the last, to the finish line, it was
:02:42. > :02:47.like he just jumped in again? hears the crowd and just takes off.
:02:48. > :02:52.I knew Chance du Roy would take a bit of passing. But I just took off.
:02:52. > :02:57.Amazing. What is that feeling like when he surges from the last?
:02:57. > :03:06.Amazing, because it's hard to win big races these days. It's an
:03:06. > :03:16.amazing feeling to get a big one. 11 years old, three ments in a row,
:03:16. > :03:19.
:03:19. > :03:26.amazing. -- three topments in a row. The box will have been driven from
:03:26. > :03:30.Wales and everything. Aimigayle co- owned by Martin Clunes' wife. She
:03:30. > :03:37.was turning for home and you thought, oh, my word, she might
:03:37. > :03:42.just win this. Always Waining gets to the elbow and it's like the old
:03:42. > :03:46.jet propellor coming in. Looked like Chance du Roy coming up and
:03:46. > :03:52.Fistral Beach for a minute there, then it all changes. I thought the
:03:52. > :04:02.Canal Turn was extraordinary. Frankie Figg turned like a P&O pony
:04:02. > :04:15.
:04:15. > :04:18.race in full with a proper review but all the credit to this horse,
:04:18. > :04:23.Always Waining. It was in the National for a long time but they
:04:23. > :04:30.decided this was the better race and they were right. That's his son
:04:30. > :04:40.leading him up now. He works at the yard. He's desperate to leave
:04:40. > :04:42.
:04:42. > :04:47.school. He barely put a foot wrong. He's a lovely guy, Tom, very quiet,
:04:47. > :04:52.a good horseman and fine jockey as well. For Peter Bowen, this is a
:04:52. > :04:56.highlight of the season and you can see him roaring him home. Oh!
:04:56. > :05:06.means so much, Clare, it just means so much.
:05:06. > :05:16.
:05:16. > :05:20.triumph and so he should. It wasn't that long ago, just a few
:05:20. > :05:30.weeks or just a week ago, he thought he was riding this horse in
:05:30. > :05:40.the National, but as we heard there, the season to run was changed. 11-1
:05:40. > :05:40.
:05:40. > :05:48.the winner. Four-and-a-half lengths and one and a quarter lengths.
:05:48. > :05:54.Coming back is Tom O'Brien. What a magnificent win this is. The third
:05:54. > :06:03.time that Always Waining has won the topment and what a triumph it
:06:03. > :06:06.is. Just absolutely unbelievable. There he is, a well-earned drink
:06:06. > :06:11.after the exertions of jumping the National fences. Some horses take
:06:11. > :06:15.to it, they absolutely love it, and he's one of them. Some horses don't
:06:15. > :06:21.like it. It's too daunting for them, there's something about it they
:06:21. > :06:25.don't like, but this horse, he loves the challenge and he's a
:06:25. > :06:35.horse with a background that's really was in flat racing
:06:35. > :06:39.beforehand. He was bred by Brew Stud in Ireland and has been a
:06:39. > :06:49.worthy servant for everybody connected with him.
:06:49. > :07:07.
:07:07. > :07:11.wife. We were saying earlier how much of a family operation this is,
:07:11. > :07:15.Mickey your son leading him up. Did you believe he could do that again?
:07:15. > :07:19.I did believe he was capable of doing it, but to think of winning
:07:19. > :07:24.three topments on the bounce, you just don't think it could come true,
:07:24. > :07:27.but yes, it's awe some. He came into the race in good form,
:07:27. > :07:31.although his form hasn't suggested it, but he's just come into himself
:07:31. > :07:34.this time of the year. Peter is shaking the hands of the crowd,
:07:34. > :07:39.leaning over and everybody saying well done. You have got all the
:07:39. > :07:42.kids here haven't you? Yes, they are all here, Mickey the eldest is
:07:43. > :07:50.leading him up, he's been lacking after him at home for the last two
:07:50. > :07:53.years so he was really pleased. Peter, come on over. Being
:07:53. > :07:57.congratulated by everybody. Hello. Gosh, this is your horse, how are
:07:58. > :08:02.you? It's the third year we've met like this, we'll have to stop
:08:02. > :08:06.meeting like this. Did you relax this time? Not at all because
:08:06. > :08:10.Peter's been going through a bad run with his horses and to bring it
:08:10. > :08:16.here and get out of a rut is fantastic. It's brilliant to own a
:08:16. > :08:20.horse like this, on a big day, with a huge crowd? Yes. It was a hard
:08:20. > :08:24.choice, we believed the ground went against us and we have had drying
:08:24. > :08:30.ground all week. Then we kick ourselves for not going to the
:08:30. > :08:35.National but this is compensation. Have you enjoyed it? Yes, oh yes.
:08:35. > :08:41.Exceptional, it's fantastic, can't believe it. Through the race, where
:08:41. > :08:46.was he? I only noticed him... was well positioned. We asked Tom
:08:46. > :08:50.to get a good start last year. This year he's been up with the pace and
:08:50. > :08:54.jumped from fence to fence, fantastic. Very pleased for you.
:08:54. > :08:59.Pleased for you too because we always meet you and I'm never here,
:08:59. > :09:02.always in the back. Glad we got you on and you are here. The owners of
:09:02. > :09:10.Always Waining. A word with Peter in a minute. A reaction from some
:09:10. > :09:15.of the placed jockeys first with Rishi. A great run on Fistral Beach
:09:15. > :09:20.Darryl. Look add -- looked as though your horse was going well?
:09:20. > :09:25.Good a good jump and thought I had a good chance, then Tom O'Brien's
:09:25. > :09:29.horse came fast and wide on the outside. He's ran a great race.
:09:29. > :09:34.We've had a bit of rain today. The National course looks like it's a
:09:34. > :09:38.little bit softer. What does it ride like? Beautiful ground out
:09:38. > :09:44.there now. Lovely good ground, good-to-soft, beautiful. Thanks for
:09:44. > :09:48.talking to us. No problem. Let's grab a quick reaction from
:09:48. > :09:54.Peter Bowen, we have heard from Karen and the owners as well, but
:09:54. > :09:58.Peter, this has made your season, hasn't it? Yes, that horse has been
:09:58. > :10:02.coughing and hasn't been right for a while. We worked him last week
:10:02. > :10:08.and thought he was in good form. We took him out last week because of
:10:08. > :10:12.the ground and he's won three topments now. You are part of
:10:12. > :10:15.history. You are going to be called on to the presentation podium in a
:10:15. > :10:19.second but a heart felt well done. Thank you very much.
:10:19. > :10:23.Let's have a look at the race again in full. If you selected a horse
:10:23. > :10:33.and wondered what happened to it and where it finished, we can join
:10:33. > :10:39.
:10:39. > :10:44.it again from the start with Mick The running of the topment. This is
:10:44. > :10:51.the run down to the first. On the right, nearest out of the camera,
:10:51. > :11:01.the white jacket dark cop is Gonebeyondrecall. Watch him all the
:11:01. > :11:01.
:11:01. > :11:08.way round. Matuhi. Five from the left. Oh, no, it's kicked him to
:11:08. > :11:17.make matters worse. Matuhi at fence one. This is the
:11:17. > :11:23.seconds they all got over it safely. Little Josh blue colours. Aimigayle
:11:23. > :11:28.in second. You will see the winner on the left is in the purple and
:11:28. > :11:32.mauve colours. Big obstacle the chair. Triangular really pitched
:11:32. > :11:42.over this. I think that was the start of his demise because he
:11:42. > :11:43.
:11:43. > :11:49.pulled up. Just now the light blue Massini Sunset. Very pleased with
:11:49. > :11:54.himself. And here is the view in the ditch.
:11:54. > :11:58.Little Josh. You can really see horses stretch and arch their back.
:11:58. > :12:02.Jamie Moore there. Paddy Brennan on Triangular. You can see how much
:12:02. > :12:06.the horses reach. From the biggest to the smallest
:12:06. > :12:14.now. The water jump. Herecomesthetruth, the nose band
:12:14. > :12:18.horse in the first position. The white jacket dark cap is
:12:18. > :12:22.Gonebeyondrecall. Just not tackling the fences well. Seems to make a
:12:22. > :12:26.few mistakes. The horse right at the back now, you can see him
:12:26. > :12:29.coming through eventually. Hard left of your picture. Massini
:12:29. > :12:34.Sunset in the light coloured blinkers with the Red Cap. You can
:12:34. > :12:38.barely see him. He didn't seem to be enjoying himself at all. Here is
:12:38. > :12:42.the 23 away to the far side -- first away to the far side. The
:12:42. > :12:48.winner Always Waining, fifth or sixth position at this stage and
:12:48. > :12:51.still Little Josh just in front. Yes, the horses jump this quite
:12:51. > :12:55.well. Massini Sunset is the one putting the brakes on now. Little
:12:55. > :13:04.Josh we can see jumping here. Got a bit tight. Triangular you can see
:13:04. > :13:12.another mistake from him. There you can see the partnership well
:13:12. > :13:22.maintained. Little Josh on the left. Fabalu. Massini Sunset right at the
:13:22. > :13:24.
:13:24. > :13:30.back. Let's have a look where they came from. There is the winner. You
:13:30. > :13:34.can see already all the ones involved in the finish are at the
:13:34. > :13:39.top of the race. In perfect position. Triangular is not having
:13:39. > :13:44.fun. His head to one side. You can see him back in about seven. Always
:13:44. > :13:48.Waining there. Skipping over the obstacles. That's the way you want
:13:48. > :13:53.them to jump round here. This is the big open ditch. Little Josh had
:13:53. > :14:03.a two length lead there. A little clumsy perhaps. The one that makes
:14:03. > :14:07.
:14:07. > :14:12.a bad error, the dark blue colours, there he is, Douglas Julian.
:14:12. > :14:20.Little Josh right at the front, stuttered into that a little bit.
:14:20. > :14:24.He frightened himself a touch. Tartak makes an error here as well.
:14:24. > :14:28.Lucky to stay with him there. very well to maintain that. Nikola
:14:28. > :14:32.at the back of the shot stuttering around.
:14:32. > :14:37.Coming down towards Becher's Brook. There is the winner, the second
:14:37. > :14:46.horse home, which is Chance du Roy is there, the third one, Fistral
:14:46. > :14:49.Beach still there and in fourth position or fourth home is
:14:49. > :14:59.Aimigayle. Nice even pace all the way around.
:14:59. > :15:01.
:15:01. > :15:11.Always Waining the interesting one. You can see a faller there, the
:15:11. > :15:14.
:15:14. > :15:22.faller. Just there. The top of it. He's up safely and Brian Hughes
:15:22. > :15:26.does a couple of forward rolls. Little Josh is always hit --
:15:26. > :15:30.hitting the fences. On the right of the picture, he did very well and
:15:30. > :15:37.he's one of the horses that's benefitted from the levelling off
:15:37. > :15:43.of the landing site. Triangular pulling up there. Was Little Josh
:15:43. > :15:49.put off by the loose horse. here he is. Jumping very nicely.
:15:49. > :15:53.The blue colours, Matuhi. He's at front at Becher's Brook. He's
:15:53. > :15:59.coming over now. Thinking please, please land properly. The loose
:15:59. > :16:03.horse or his horse? His horse, he's not worried about the loose horse.
:16:03. > :16:10.Look how steep he comes down there. Is that the horse got in too close?
:16:10. > :16:15.He's really had to walk to get himself back on track. Great shots
:16:15. > :16:21.there of Herecomesthetruth. Colin Bolger will be enjoying watching
:16:21. > :16:26.this. Fistral Beach going through as well. This is Foinavon again,
:16:26. > :16:31.the loose horse getting in the way of Little Josh. Getting a little
:16:31. > :16:34.worried at this stage because you know you have the Canal Turn coming
:16:34. > :16:42.up so you are going to be concerned about getting yourself into the
:16:43. > :16:48.right position for this. The blue colours there. There's Always
:16:48. > :16:52.Waining in front, Chance du Roy in second, Fistral Beach and Aimigayle
:16:52. > :16:56.in fourth. The first four horses home are in the first five of the
:16:56. > :17:00.field already and they've just got past halfway. The horse you have
:17:00. > :17:04.got to look out for here is Frankie Figg, Ruby Walsh giving a master
:17:04. > :17:09.class in how to cut the corner. Middle of your screen jumping now.
:17:09. > :17:14.Watch how quickly he turns. He's a big horse to get him around there
:17:14. > :17:24.that quick. This is the canal. He is on the right. Watch how he cuts
:17:24. > :17:32.
:17:32. > :17:41.the corner. Look like that, turns him like a polo pony. Arklow Ger.
:17:41. > :17:44.Gonebeyondrecall fell at that obstacle there. There he goes.
:17:45. > :17:54.Nikola. Fistral Beach has got a little bit close to that one as
:17:55. > :17:55.
:17:55. > :18:00.well. Way in the background was Arklow Ger. Richard Johnson is
:18:00. > :18:03.about to send Chance du Roy up. did well to stand up as well. Got
:18:03. > :18:10.close to this. Watch this, he lost his momentum and he's done very
:18:10. > :18:14.well to maintain the partnership. And so we have Chance du Roy just
:18:14. > :18:18.taking up Little Josh. He's actually put Little Josh up there,
:18:18. > :18:22.look at this. Little Josh gets a little bit close to it and I think
:18:22. > :18:29.he was put off by another horse. Herecomesthetruth in the black and
:18:29. > :18:34.pink, who made an error there. He's going to fade back into 16th
:18:34. > :18:38.position eventually. Very good here, on the far right at the back...
:18:38. > :18:48.Managing to maintain the partnership. This is number 16
:18:48. > :18:48.
:18:49. > :18:52.which is three from the finish. The principles here right at the Head
:18:53. > :18:57.of Affairs now. Little Josh. The first four are in the first five
:18:57. > :19:05.here. Interesting point though is that Always Waining at that place
:19:05. > :19:08.was back in fifth place. Now, this is the second last positions.
:19:08. > :19:14.Always Waining Chance du Roy, Aimigayle Little Josh is going to
:19:14. > :19:18.fade out of this. He was running out of stamina from this point on?
:19:18. > :19:28.He seemed to make a few errors which put paid to his chances. Paul
:19:28. > :19:30.
:19:30. > :19:34.that I don't knowly is having a great ride on Paradis De Thaix.
:19:34. > :19:41.Nikola 23, pulled up. Bearing in mind there is no prize for coming
:19:41. > :19:47.20th, sensible to do so. Very wise. Johnson firing everything at Chance
:19:47. > :19:57.du Roy. Fistral Beach. Great spot here on the far right. You can
:19:57. > :19:58.
:19:58. > :20:08.cedar Rhyl Jacob, he sneaks up. Geraghty lost his form as well. He
:20:08. > :20:09.
:20:10. > :20:14.was back in there very quickly. Peter Bowen, clear. Chance du Roy
:20:14. > :20:19.running well in second place, holding the position from Fistral
:20:19. > :20:24.Beach and Darryl Jacob. But it's a win for the third time for Always
:20:24. > :20:31.Waining. He looked well at the back of the field. Douglas Julian is
:20:31. > :20:35.over the fence. He passes Sunday City and Montoya's Son. Good run
:20:35. > :20:39.from the front three and they are well ahead of the others. A fair
:20:39. > :20:46.run for Aimigayle in fourth. Only had a couple of run this is season.
:20:46. > :20:50.A good, solid piece of form. It is. All night they'll be thinking,
:20:50. > :20:56.should we have been running in the National? 56,000 for the winner
:20:56. > :21:05.here, you would take that, wouldn't you? Always Waining is the winner
:21:05. > :21:15.of the topment. Now let's take you through what happened to the horses
:21:15. > :21:15.
:21:15. > :22:13.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds
:22:13. > :22:17.and jockeys were fine after the topment. I think that race
:22:17. > :22:20.illustrated something very important. The loose horse, Matuhi
:22:20. > :22:24.unseated at the first fence continued. Nobody forced him to. He
:22:24. > :22:27.could have gone round every fence or back to the stables but stayed
:22:27. > :22:30.with the herd and he jumped because he wanted to. I thought that was
:22:30. > :22:34.one of the most thrilling things to watch about that race as well. The
:22:34. > :22:38.presentation was made to the winning owners and the trainer of
:22:38. > :22:45.this fabulous, fabulous horse. You can see Linda Douglas in the
:22:45. > :22:48.background giving Peter Bowen a kiss. The first horse ever to win
:22:49. > :22:51.the topment three times and what a terrific horse he is. Who knows,
:22:51. > :22:54.maybe next year he will be back in the Grand National but I don't
:22:54. > :22:58.think they regret for one second coming here and concentrating on
:22:58. > :23:06.that race because it's his race. If you are just tuning in, this is the
:23:06. > :23:13.story of the day so far. We started our afternoon with a Tangle Teezer
:23:13. > :23:18.Top Novices' Hurdle. Ladies' day here and a lot followed AP McCoy.
:23:18. > :23:26.Darlan was favourite and came home a battling winner. A one two for
:23:26. > :23:31.Nicky Henderson. The Novices' Chase won by Silviniaco Conti. The
:23:31. > :23:35.Melling Chase and a hugely impressive victory for Finian's
:23:35. > :23:39.Rainbow and Barry Geraghty. The topment, as you have just seen, a
:23:39. > :23:43.little bit of history created here at Aintree for Always Waining.
:23:43. > :23:53.We've got one more live race to come. The horses are in the paddock,
:23:53. > :24:04.
:24:04. > :24:08.but now time to enjoy another win the race, triumphing at the
:24:08. > :24:18.ripe old age of 48. The horse became the first outright favourite
:24:18. > :24:18.
:24:18. > :24:23.to win for 22 years, but was time running out for the National?
:24:23. > :24:30.Being acclaimed as the national hero of 1982. He strides up to the
:24:30. > :24:33.line to win it in fantastic style. Grittar's history fired the
:24:33. > :24:38.imagination of the Aintree aficionados, helping to boost the
:24:38. > :24:44.funds set up to secure the future of the race. The victory maintained
:24:44. > :24:54.the phrase "the People's Race" a race for both young and old.
:24:54. > :24:55.
:24:55. > :25:01.said that I would do it if I won the national and I'm sticking to it.
:25:01. > :25:06.Dick Saunders on Grittar in 198, the last amateur to win it was
:25:06. > :25:10.Marcus Armitage on Mr Frisk. Two amateur jockeys ride in the race
:25:10. > :25:13.tomorrow, both women, Katie Walsh and Nina Carberry. The scene here
:25:13. > :25:16.now is absolutely glorious. The rain clouds have been chased away
:25:17. > :25:22.and we have a lovely, bright, beautiful sunshine in which to
:25:22. > :25:32.enjoy the John Smith's Sefton novice's hurdle.
:25:32. > :25:32.
:25:32. > :26:32.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds
:26:32. > :26:36.Bay, sadly missed the Cheltenham Festival. He is ready now?
:26:36. > :26:40.concerns at all. Had Cheltenham been a week later he might have
:26:40. > :26:45.even run then, so wf had three weeks since then, so no problem.
:26:45. > :26:49.Some are saying the rain is in his fave, is that fair? He goes well on
:26:49. > :26:55.soft, so no concerns, that's the main thing. I would be concerned if
:26:55. > :27:01.it was a bit quicker but I think a good horse will go on any ground
:27:01. > :27:05.and probably the case with him. him when he was beaten at Sandown,
:27:05. > :27:11.people were quoting you saying how much you rated this horse. Your
:27:11. > :27:15.opinion hasn't changed I suppose but boosted by the performance?
:27:15. > :27:18.You never know if the opposing horse was at his best that day but
:27:18. > :27:22.he's a lovely horse with a fantastic temperament, there are
:27:22. > :27:31.never any issues with him, so he's hopefully pretty good but we'll see
:27:31. > :27:41.in a minute how good. Thank you for talking to us. Best of luck.
:27:41. > :27:55.
:27:55. > :28:05.last favourite to win this. It's been a graveyard for the favourites,
:28:05. > :28:10.
:28:10. > :28:14.with chances. This is Lovcen. That could be a generous price 9-1.
:28:14. > :28:19.could but I think there are better each way shots. Interesting that
:28:19. > :28:26.Robert Thornton's not got a ride in the National itself. Not at the
:28:26. > :28:31.moment, no. The stable's in great form. They had a winner yesterday.
:28:31. > :28:34.Cotton Mill is a really interesting runner here. Trained by John
:28:34. > :28:39.Ferguson, Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock adviser. This is his
:28:39. > :28:43.first season as a trainer. He's had 24 winners, a strike rate of 33%.
:28:43. > :28:45.This horse might have won at Cheltenham if he hadn't ducked
:28:45. > :28:49.around. It was the most amazing thing.
:28:49. > :28:57.Nothing frightened it and the hurdle was smaller than the wing
:28:57. > :29:05.that he tried to go through. His rider here rides Black Apalache
:29:05. > :29:09.tomorrow. Had the chance to ride Gyles Cross but said he'd ride
:29:09. > :29:14.Black Apalache instead. Knock A Hand has been in fantastic form as
:29:14. > :29:21.you can see from the figures. That shower of rain might have done him
:29:21. > :29:28.the world of good? Yes, good support. Richard Lee bought this
:29:28. > :29:38.horse and thought, I need a good owner for hinl and found Allan.
:29:38. > :29:40.
:29:40. > :29:46.for him. Gullinbursti didn't run yesterday
:29:46. > :29:50.but does run today. This is Emma Lavelle's horse and she thinks an
:29:50. > :29:55.awful lot of him. Knock A Hand is decent, he's
:29:55. > :29:59.already had a winner today. lovely looking horse in great
:29:59. > :30:09.condition. Emma's last three horses have won. Her horses always look
:30:09. > :30:12.
:30:12. > :30:18.well. She's having a good season. Smith's Sefton Novices' Hurdle,
:30:18. > :30:21.staying trip three miles, one-and- a-half furlongs. They're off and
:30:21. > :30:25.running. In the centre Catcherinscratcher is first away in
:30:25. > :30:28.the red cap in company with Golden Call, just behind them Gullinbursti.
:30:28. > :30:33.On the near side Netminder. Further back in the field, then, as they
:30:33. > :30:38.come to the first, Cotton Mill, and then on the inside as they have all
:30:38. > :30:42.got over the first OK is Ballyrock. Up towards the judge, and two
:30:42. > :30:46.circuits ahead of them, and on the outside it's Catcherinscratcher who
:30:46. > :30:50.shows the way if Golden Call on the far side. Near side is Netminder
:30:50. > :30:54.from Gullinbursti and then Ballyrock behind them. Further back
:30:54. > :30:58.in the field, then, is Forgotten Gold, then Poole Master, the inside
:30:58. > :31:01.as they swing out with just under two circuits to travel. A half
:31:01. > :31:05.length into Nagpur and Ipsos Du Berlais in the centre, followed out
:31:05. > :31:08.deeper on the track then by Knock A Hand, then Makethe Mostofnow is
:31:08. > :31:13.further back in the field. Tap Night is there as well. They're
:31:13. > :31:18.followed next in the field by Harry Topper in the yellow cap, giving
:31:18. > :31:25.them a start from Hawkes Point, out the back is Lovecen in company with
:31:25. > :31:28.Ike Ike -- Aikideau. Getting through on the inside, Golden Call
:31:28. > :31:34.taking a narrow lead from Catcherinscratcher, then behind
:31:34. > :31:37.them Netminder, who jumped it well. On the inside, Ballyrock followed
:31:37. > :31:40.by Gullinbursti, then Cotton Mill on the outside of Fingal Bay, who
:31:40. > :31:44.has taken up a very prominent position. Out deeper on the track
:31:44. > :31:46.then at this point is Catcherinscratcher - Knock A Hand,
:31:46. > :31:49.I should say, as they come to the third. Ipsos Du Berlais is next,
:31:49. > :31:57.followed then by Forgotten Gold as they go over the third. Then
:31:57. > :32:00.further back is make the Makethe Mostofnow. Then in the centre,
:32:00. > :32:05.Hawkes Point, Tap Night out wide. Back in the field at this point
:32:05. > :32:10.Lovecen as they head over the fourth. There is two down. Golden
:32:10. > :32:14.Call is gone, and there is another as they head over that one - two
:32:14. > :32:19.horses galloping away, and just waiting for the riders to get up,
:32:19. > :32:24.and it looks like Knock A Hand has been hampered and has been pulled
:32:24. > :32:28.up at the rear of the field as they head up the side of the course now
:32:28. > :32:33.and just looking down to see if I can see - I think one of the -
:32:33. > :32:38.Makethe Mostofnow is one of the riders, who is up on his feet OK
:32:38. > :32:41.now as they head towards the turn. We have one to identify. It's
:32:41. > :32:45.Catcherinscratcher is the leader. So it's Golden Call and Makethe
:32:45. > :32:51.Mostofnow who have come down as they head around the turn now. The
:32:51. > :32:54.leader at this point in the centre is catch -- Catcherinscratcher on
:32:54. > :32:58.the inside as they swing into the straight. They're followed by Poole
:32:58. > :33:03.Master. Behind them, Ballyrock. Out wider on the track is Netminder
:33:03. > :33:08.followed by Cotton Mill, who is just behind them as they head up
:33:08. > :33:13.now towards the next one, number six, and just looking back through
:33:13. > :33:17.the field, Fingal Bay on the inside in about fifth or sixth position as
:33:17. > :33:21.they head up towards flight number seven, and Gullinbursti joining
:33:21. > :33:25.Catcherinscratcher. Ballyrock just behind them, followed by Fingal Bay.
:33:25. > :33:31.They're followed next by Poole Master as they head over that one,
:33:31. > :33:35.and drama at that stage as they head up the home straight. Drama,
:33:35. > :33:39.Richard Dunwoody in the early part of the race. Yes, the last one down
:33:39. > :33:43.the back, and Tony McCoy on Ballyrock was very lucky, so was
:33:43. > :33:48.Richard Johnson on Fingal Bay. They just were lucky to move into the
:33:48. > :33:52.inside and avoid the fallers there. AP is in a great position just with
:33:52. > :33:55.Richard Johnson on Fingal Bay on his side. Dicky really has got
:33:55. > :33:59.position A at the moment. So as they swing towards the back now
:33:59. > :34:02.under a circuit to go, and Gullinbursti on the inside of
:34:02. > :34:07.Catcherinscratcher, a length away, Netminder, then out in the centre
:34:07. > :34:11.is Fingal Bay followed by Ballyrock, the inside. A length further back
:34:11. > :34:16.in the field, Cotton Mill travelling on the outside of Poole
:34:16. > :34:19.Master. Lovecen made good ground. Ipsos Du Berlais is next. They have
:34:19. > :34:24.opened up three lengths on Tap Night. Golden Call is further back
:34:24. > :34:28.followed by Harry Topper as they head over that one. Aikideau is
:34:29. > :34:32.next. Further back is Nagpur, under the whip. Hawkes Point lost ground.
:34:32. > :34:37.Fingal Bay made a mistake there, but he's still up in second place
:34:37. > :34:41.on the inside as they head now towards the ninth, and it's Fingal
:34:41. > :34:44.Bay on the inside in the light blue jacket, then Gullinbursti in the
:34:44. > :34:49.black colours on the far side, just in behind them is Poole Master,
:34:49. > :34:53.followed then by Lovecen, and now Cotton Mill is coming into it as
:34:53. > :34:56.they head down towards four out, and it's Fingal Bay getting
:34:56. > :34:59.strongly inside of Gullinbursti. They head over it together,
:34:59. > :35:04.followed by Poole Master and Lovecen behind them, and Cotton
:35:04. > :35:09.Mill is coming into it as well as they swing now around the top turn,
:35:09. > :35:13.and Fingal Bay on the inside of Gullinbursti. They're stride for
:35:13. > :35:16.stride, then Cotton Mill making a line of three. Lovecen behind them.
:35:16. > :35:20.They're clear then of Tap Night, followed out wide by Ipsos Du
:35:20. > :35:22.Berlais. In the centre is Poole Master. They're clear then of
:35:22. > :35:26.Forgotten Gold. They have got three left to jump in the straight. We'll
:35:26. > :35:29.see what Fingal Bay is made of now. He's only a half length in front.
:35:29. > :35:33.Cotton Mill going strongly on the inside. Lovecen in third, followed
:35:33. > :35:37.then by Gullinbursti, who has run his race. Ipsos Du Berlais is
:35:37. > :35:42.further back as they round the turn now. Three left to jump - Fingal
:35:42. > :35:47.Bay, Dicky Johnson on the inside is the leader from Cotton Mill, who is
:35:48. > :35:52.on the outer. Denis O'Regan, three out Fingal Bay jumped it well. He's
:35:52. > :35:56.gone three in front. Cotton Mill trying hard, followed by Lovecen,
:35:56. > :35:59.Ipsos Du Berlais and Tap Night. They've got two left to jump now.
:35:59. > :36:03.Fingal Bay being tackled by Lovecen on the far side. Cotton Mill is
:36:03. > :36:08.behind them from Ipsos Du Berlais. He's got a fight on his hands now.
:36:08. > :36:11.It's Fingal Bay who is just the leader, Fingal Bay from Lovecen is
:36:11. > :36:15.going in quickly on the inside as they race towards the last. Fingal
:36:15. > :36:20.Bay, near side, Lovecen, the far side. They touch down together.
:36:20. > :36:24.Fingal Bay and Lovecen. They've got 150 yards left to go. On the near
:36:24. > :36:30.side, Fingal Bay. Lovecen, the far side. Lovecen gains the upper hand,
:36:30. > :36:34.and Lovecen is now coming away - a great staying performance - Chock
:36:34. > :36:38.Thornton in the saddle, Alan King, the trainer, Fingal Bay is second.
:36:38. > :36:43.In third is Cotton Mill. Ipsos Du Berlais in fourth followed then by
:36:43. > :36:47.Hawkes Point and then Tap Night and further back, then, is Harry Topper,
:36:47. > :36:52.followed by Forgotten Gold and Nagpur and Gullinbursti, and
:36:52. > :36:57.they're the only finishers, and Richard Dunwoody, a great staying
:36:57. > :37:01.performance. It was, Jim. Choc has ridden a very patient racation,
:37:01. > :37:07.rived there, I have to say spot on right at the right place. He's
:37:07. > :37:11.jumped the last - pinged the last, whereas Richard's horse - Dicky's
:37:11. > :37:14.horse has just got in a bit tight, hasn't cut the race at all, but he
:37:14. > :37:18.would have liked to have jumped it a little bit better, and this horse
:37:18. > :37:22.has stayed really well. The ground looks a little bit tacky now. That
:37:22. > :37:27.rain's got into it a bit. It's interesting that it has. The sun is
:37:27. > :37:33.out again now. First is number 13, Lovecen. Second, number five,
:37:33. > :37:40.Fingal Bay. Third, number three, Cotton Mill. In fourth, number 11,
:37:40. > :37:45.Ipsos Du Berlais. But Lovecen, ridden by Chock Thornton - he's
:37:45. > :37:48.outstayed Fingal Bay, who just looked a little tap for toe there
:37:48. > :37:54.today. Yeah, Richard's - he was very lucky to avoid the horse at
:37:54. > :37:58.the last time - the back on the first circuit, then AP has made a
:37:58. > :38:03.mistake and let him stride along to the front halfway down the back and
:38:03. > :38:10.hoped he'd get home, and he's been outstayed really by Robert
:38:10. > :38:17.Thornton's horse, Lovecen. So the distances, one and three-
:38:17. > :38:21.quarters and 11 lengths - one and three-quarters and 11 lengths were
:38:21. > :38:31.the distance. They have pulled well clear of Cotton Mill. He's run a
:38:31. > :38:31.
:38:31. > :38:37.nice Race. So Lovecen, the winner. And you'll see Robert Thornton's
:38:37. > :38:42.golden clocks below hisca he grows it for charity. A good lad. He
:38:42. > :38:48.grows it for charity. He's popular in the weighing room. He's on
:38:48. > :38:55.Twitter. Lot of jockeys are on Twitter. It's fun to follow them.
:38:55. > :38:59.The sun and his profile picture. There is Alan King for Lovecen - a
:38:59. > :39:09.lot of love from the partnership who own this horse. It's brilliant
:39:09. > :39:09.
:39:09. > :39:15.to see, and Barbury is where King trains. In fact I think when he
:39:15. > :39:18.last won this race in 2002, The same pattern - Strongness had
:39:18. > :39:25.finished fourth in his previous start, then came and won this.
:39:25. > :39:33.Lovecen wins it today. He's fourth in the Albert Bart let.
:39:33. > :39:39.-- Bartlett. And Robert Thornton will come to them a strong
:39:39. > :39:43.reception, 8-1. I think a lot of people will spotted it. Look how
:39:43. > :39:48.well - well, look at how AP McCoy nearly falls, and Cotton Mill makes
:39:48. > :39:52.a mistake as well. You look at that. That's what they call stepping in
:39:52. > :39:56.the game. When you get a horse like that, they paddle - it's almost
:39:56. > :40:01.like a hundred-metre jumper - one leg in front of the other - that's
:40:01. > :40:05.not the way to go. Let's get a word with Alan King. He's with Rishi now.
:40:05. > :40:09.You must be over the moon with a horse that seems to get better as
:40:09. > :40:12.the season goes on. Yes, he's very tough. We were very pleased at
:40:12. > :40:18.Cheltenham. We came here hoping he'd run well, but that surprised
:40:18. > :40:23.me. I have to be honest, and great, you know? Was off the bridle a long
:40:23. > :40:27.way, a and he kept finding, and very special. A really, really good
:40:27. > :40:30.bunch of owners, and I'm so chuffed for them. I had to find an owner
:40:30. > :40:34.for him sort of halfway through the season, and we got a few mates
:40:34. > :40:40.together. It means a lot. Congratulations. Well done. Cheers,
:40:40. > :40:43.Rishi. Our last winner of the day here on BBC Two making his way into
:40:43. > :40:45.the winners' enclosure. Congratulations to Lovecen and a
:40:45. > :40:51.good victory in the John Smith's Sefton Novices' Hurdle. Tomorrow,
:40:51. > :40:56.by the way, we have five live races, obviously. There is the Grand
:40:56. > :41:04.National, but the support races are fabulous. Nicky Henderson has
:41:04. > :41:11.sprinter Sprinter Sacre, then Rock On Ruby and Tsar kander. They line
:41:11. > :41:16.up against each other. Paul Paul Nicholls trains the other two.
:41:16. > :41:21.Let's get the SP for our live races with the cheers of the crowd of
:41:21. > :41:31.those who supported him. He was a decent price, wasn't he? That's
:41:31. > :41:42.
:41:43. > :41:47.Sprinter Sacre? Very because Nicky has an interesting group of horses
:41:47. > :41:51.on his hands. Finian's Rainbow we saw winning today over two-and-a-
:41:51. > :41:56.half miles. That horse could be the future. Finian's Rainbow was this
:41:56. > :42:03.year's Champion Chaser, but that race - that Aintree Hurdle - Rock
:42:03. > :42:13.On Ruby, Zarkander and last year's winner Oscar Whiskey in there.
:42:13. > :42:34.
:42:34. > :42:38.race is off at 2.50pm, the John to our stuff we were rattling on
:42:38. > :42:42.about yesterday. Anything you have seen today that gives you a feeling
:42:42. > :42:49.for what'll happen tomorrow? This time tomorrow we'll know the winner
:42:49. > :42:59.of the National. Are we going to see the first lady jockey ever?
:42:59. > :43:02.
:43:02. > :43:05.could. We could with either jockey. Please join us. Lots of features
:43:05. > :43:12.throughout the day. From Aintree, goodbye.
:43:12. > :43:16.This day in particular, Ladies' Day, has become spectacularly popular.
:43:16. > :43:22.They come in early to enjoy the full celebration of a great day out.
:43:22. > :43:32.Walking out slowly for our first race, and they're off! Darlan, the
:43:32. > :43:35.
:43:36. > :43:38.far side. and a furlong. Silviniaco Conti,
:43:38. > :43:43.Ruby Walsh is going to go on and win in good style.
:43:43. > :43:46.APPLAUSE So that's it. They come in, and
:43:46. > :43:53.they're off and running. Finian's Rainbow, the far side, the
:43:53. > :43:58.leader. Finian's Rainbow, Barry Geraghty. He rode in confidently
