:00:42. > :00:50.The very best gathered today at Ascot. A champion will be crowned

:00:50. > :01:00.at every distance. It's the richest racing day ever in Britain. Qipco

:01:00. > :01:00.

:01:00. > :01:40.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:01:40. > :01:43.horse, the brilliant Frankel. Ascot, but not as you've ever seen

:01:43. > :01:46.it before. This place is full of people, some of them coming racing

:01:46. > :01:52.for the very first time. All of them look ago head to four races

:01:52. > :01:55.that we have coming up on BBC One that show case the very best of

:01:55. > :01:59.horse racing. 25,000 people or more coming through the gates here today.

:01:59. > :02:05.Many more because the weather is so beautiful, will have come to enjoy

:02:05. > :02:09.the brilliance of Aden O'Brien and Sir Henry Cecil, two trainers who

:02:09. > :02:13.undoubtedly will grace the winners enclosure. So much to enjoy. Most

:02:13. > :02:17.of it based around the sheer beauty and power and elegance of the race

:02:17. > :02:21.horse, the timing and the tactical skill of jockeys as well. Her

:02:21. > :02:25.Majesty the Queen is here at Ascot. She arrived shortly and we have had

:02:25. > :02:30.one race already. It was the Qipco British champions series long

:02:30. > :02:37.distance cup. It was won by a horse who undoubtedly woim press the

:02:37. > :02:41.Queen and everybody else watching because he is very well respected

:02:41. > :02:51.honourable champion stayer of the season. Fame And Glory took the

:02:51. > :02:57.

:02:57. > :03:00.Aidan O'Brien. Second place puts Frankie ahead of

:03:00. > :03:03.Tom Queally in the race to be leading jockey over the Champions'

:03:03. > :03:08.Series. That will be decided today, so will leading trainer and we are

:03:08. > :03:13.here to crown champions every race is a Cup Final. The winners coming

:03:13. > :03:18.through a newly erected arch into the winners' enclosure here where

:03:18. > :03:21.they are greeted by the huge cheers and roars of the crowd and also the

:03:21. > :03:30.all-knowing all-seeing eye of Willie Carson. It's a great day, is

:03:30. > :03:33.it not This is absolutely one of the best days I can remember. In my

:03:33. > :03:36.riding days, I would have dreamt about things like this happening.

:03:36. > :03:42.Of course, I think today is very special because it's the first time

:03:42. > :03:47.that we are going to have this. In 200 years' time, we might be

:03:47. > :03:51.talking about this day because there might be the name of a race

:03:51. > :03:54.named Frankel because I think Frankel is the best horse we've

:03:54. > :04:00.ever seen. He's going to prove that today and you will see it and it

:04:00. > :04:04.will happen here later on. It's absolutely a fantastic days' racing.

:04:04. > :04:09.Even people who watch racing day in and day out and get paid to do it

:04:09. > :04:13.as a job are excited about seeing Frankel, unbeaten in eight career

:04:13. > :04:20.starts so far. He'll be trying to make it number nine in a row. He's

:04:20. > :04:30.the best rated horse in the world. Henry Cecil says he's the best

:04:30. > :04:31.

:04:31. > :04:36.horse he's ever trained and he's here for the QEI ch. Ryan Moore is

:04:36. > :04:40.in the final race of the Champion Stakes. Two horses to get really

:04:40. > :04:44.excited about, but, across-the- board, just quality everywhere you

:04:44. > :04:50.look. The jockeys are raring to get going on a day that holds so much

:04:50. > :04:56.excitement, they love to perform in front of a big crowd. Eddie Ahern

:04:56. > :05:00.in the foreground there. It's not just about the atmosphere and the

:05:01. > :05:04.prize money of it, but that is important, 3 million on offer

:05:04. > :05:08.throughout the five days, and as Willie says, the right to be

:05:08. > :05:12.crowned a champion. Fantastic. do the things that will still be

:05:12. > :05:18.talked about in a hundred years is a great day of racing and Rishi is

:05:18. > :05:22.here with us too. I'm taking a respite in the shadow

:05:22. > :05:26.of the grandstand from this very hot sun today. The runners are

:05:26. > :05:31.making their way down to the start for the champions sprint. A couple

:05:31. > :05:36.were getting a little warm, but nothing too untoward. The official

:05:36. > :05:43.going is good. Surprising because we have had such a dry week, four

:05:43. > :05:53.mill metres of water placed on the course. -- milimetres. Here what

:05:53. > :05:53.

:05:53. > :06:43.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:06:43. > :06:46.coming down the six furlong chances of landing this sprint with

:06:46. > :06:50.Society Rock and Deacon Blues. He said he would have liked it softer

:06:51. > :06:55.for one and firmer for the other, but the fact it's perfect ground,

:06:55. > :06:58.he has no excuses and it could be a huge day for James Fanshawe. He's

:06:58. > :07:02.had a very good season. The sprinters who line up here

:07:02. > :07:06.today have been taking part in the sprint races across this British

:07:06. > :07:16.Champion series. There have been 31 races now in a series, four more to

:07:16. > :07:16.

:07:16. > :08:23.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:08:23. > :08:33.come, and let's see how the James Fanshawe's got a very strong

:08:33. > :08:43.

:08:43. > :08:48.But it's the champions stakes and the punters are coming out to play.

:08:48. > :08:55.Frankp was 2-1, that's gone. I don't think you will get any more

:08:55. > :08:59.of that -- Frankel. But So You Think later on, 3-1, into 2-1.

:08:59. > :09:06.They're G-G to play, John, the big boys are out to play on one of the

:09:06. > :09:09.biggest days of the year. Here, Deacon Blue is cantering down

:09:09. > :09:13.to the start. You will notice you are watching racing this afternoon,

:09:13. > :09:17.something very different, because the way jockeys are riding their

:09:17. > :09:21.finishes, they're using the whip with much more restraint and

:09:21. > :09:31.judicial restraint because of the rules that came in on Monday,

:09:31. > :09:36.

:09:36. > :09:41.restricting jockeys to seven in the race and five in the final furlong.

:09:41. > :09:50.One of the jockeys handed in his licence having picked up 15 days'

:09:50. > :10:00.suspension for obeying the rules twice. It wasn't in protest at the

:10:00. > :10:04.

:10:04. > :10:10.be Society Rock trained by James Fanshawe.

:10:10. > :10:14.He's got two very good sprinters, but I'm sure that Deacon Blues will

:10:14. > :10:18.be the run that he thinks has got the biggest chance today. He was a

:10:18. > :10:22.little bit worried about the ground because he said that he would like

:10:22. > :10:27.a little bit of sponge in the ground. As we have said earlier,

:10:27. > :10:33.the ground is perfect and every horse should have an equal chance

:10:33. > :10:38.on this type of going. Let's not forget that Freddie has brought

:10:38. > :10:46.over a lovely three-year-old filly who he thought was a classic filly.

:10:46. > :10:51.Didn't get into the stalls earlier in her career, but she's really

:10:51. > :10:56.taken... The green cap. Wearing that to denote second colours but

:10:56. > :11:05.she's definitely the more fancied of the two runners. Moonlight

:11:05. > :11:09.Cloud's won five to date including her last two. He's struck up a very

:11:09. > :11:13.good relationship with her, the jockey. This is a three-year-old

:11:13. > :11:16.filly improving, so you would have to think she'd have a very good

:11:16. > :11:20.chance, although she's never ran over six furlongs before. She won

:11:20. > :11:28.last time over six-and-a-half furlongs, and before that, it was

:11:28. > :11:33.always seven furlongs. Six furlongs at Ascot I think will be OK. Speed

:11:33. > :11:43.of the essence, Jim, here we go. Six furlongs for the sprint

:11:43. > :11:43.

:11:43. > :11:48.Championship, the Qipco British Champions Fillies.

:11:48. > :11:55.Night Carnation. Over on the far side, Silverside. Prime Defender

:11:55. > :12:05.going through. Hooray. Deacon Blues takes up position behind them,

:12:05. > :12:06.

:12:06. > :12:16.followed by Silverside and lab rar know. -- Libranno. Wizz Kid out of

:12:16. > :12:17.

:12:17. > :12:20.the centre followed by ladys are forever and median man. Perfect

:12:20. > :12:25.Tribute. Genki. The leader is Hooray on the stands rail from

:12:25. > :12:29.Deacon Blues getting close to Libranno on the far side. Prime

:12:29. > :12:37.Defender, Night Carnation looking for a way through. Moonlight Cloud

:12:37. > :12:45.can't get a run. They race up with a furlong to go. Deacon Blues Haas

:12:45. > :12:51.the run on the inside. Wizz Kid. Deacon Blues has gone for home.

:12:51. > :12:57.It's right up to the line, Deacon Blues will win it. From Wizz Kid,

:12:57. > :13:02.Royal Rock and Libranno. Very tight. In behind them, follows Moonlight

:13:02. > :13:08.Cloud in company with Night Carnation. Further back in the

:13:08. > :13:14.field, Jimmy Styles, but Deacon Blues, Johnny Murtagh, trained by

:13:14. > :13:18.James Fanshawe and owned by John and Peter Hopper and Michelle

:13:18. > :13:22.Morris. He's won the Qipco British Champions sprint stakes. Let's have

:13:22. > :13:30.a lack at them cross the line. Wizz Kid on the far side. There's tea

:13:30. > :13:37.conblues. Wizz Kid on the far side. It's a photo third between Libranno

:13:37. > :13:42.in the centre and near side Royal Rock. They're clear of the two

:13:42. > :13:46.runners. They are Moonlight Cloud with the green cap, near side

:13:46. > :13:51.number 14, Night Carnation is next, followed then by Prime Defender who

:13:51. > :13:59.was there all the way. Genki's run on from last to be just behind that

:13:59. > :14:07.one. Followed by Perfect Tribute. Then Jimmy Styles. Hooray. Followed

:14:07. > :14:12.by Society Rock and Medicean Man. Further back, Dafeef and Silverside

:14:12. > :14:17.and Ladies Are Forever. The Qipco British Champions sprint has been

:14:17. > :14:22.won by Deacon Blues. He's put together five consecutive wins.

:14:22. > :14:32.Ridden by Johnny Murtagh and getting applause from the crowd as

:14:32. > :14:43.

:14:43. > :14:48.the record. James Fanshawe is happy, as is Johnny Murtagh. What an

:14:48. > :14:56.exciting sprinter he is, Deacon Blues. Two races in the Qipco

:14:56. > :15:00.British Champions day ran so far and both of them won by truly great

:15:00. > :15:04.horses. He is the champion sprinter for the

:15:04. > :15:07.series and one could argue, the champion sprinter of the year. He's

:15:08. > :15:12.been so consistent this year and a lovely straightforward ride for

:15:12. > :15:16.Johnny Murtagh. You saw us giving lead speed guns there, it's not a

:15:16. > :15:21.camera, there is a sensor in all of the saddle cloths and we can give

:15:21. > :15:26.you the times for all of the horses. You saw them travelling at over

:15:26. > :15:32.40mph there. Look at Johnny Murtagh still going easily when every

:15:32. > :15:37.jockey is asking their horse for more effort. Deacon Blues finds it

:15:37. > :15:41.easy and can go a little quicker when he picks up. He had an

:15:41. > :15:45.uncomplicated ride. Sat there, two or three lengths off the pace. Went

:15:45. > :15:49.to the front at the top furlong and punched his horse out to have a

:15:50. > :15:57.very, very nice win. This horse has done nothing else but just improve.

:15:57. > :16:01.This is the best race that he's ran in so far and he's won just as easy

:16:02. > :16:07.as the rest of the races he's been winning this year. But today was

:16:07. > :16:11.the best opposition and he has won it really well. He was gelded in

:16:11. > :16:15.the winter of last year and, of course, ever since then, this guy

:16:15. > :16:21.has just kept on improving and improving. He'll be a horse that'll

:16:22. > :16:27.be challenging fortune sprinter next year, although today, he is

:16:27. > :16:35.the champion! Confirmation that in third place

:16:35. > :16:39.was Libranno, Kieren Fallon in third. Deacon Blues out and out

:16:39. > :16:46.superstar this season, only beaten once this year and James Fanshawe

:16:46. > :16:56.will celebrate in style. The fan fair goes as Deacon Blues nears the

:16:56. > :17:00.

:17:01. > :17:05.effusive as Frankie Dettori, he won't give us a flying dismount,

:17:05. > :17:09.but he has a smile that will beam up the whole grandstand. A great

:17:09. > :17:14.moment for the Fanshawe family and Johnny Murtagh and for Deacon Blues.

:17:14. > :17:17.There is Jan and Peter and Michelle Morris.

:17:17. > :17:23.Just a great performance. To be able to keep a horse going through

:17:23. > :17:26.a long season in good races and keep... Keep on improving. You know,

:17:26. > :17:30.this was a group two today. The next thing, is he'll have to

:17:30. > :17:36.compete in group one races. Obviously, these Championship races

:17:36. > :17:42.next year, you would have to think that the board will have to upgrade

:17:42. > :17:46.some of the races and make them into more, instead of a group two

:17:46. > :17:50.next year, possibly a group one, and you will get the horses

:17:50. > :17:54.throughout the world deciding to come to compete for the prize money

:17:54. > :17:57.and our group one races. What a great reception for him. It helps

:17:57. > :18:01.when you are riding the favourite and a lot of people have made money

:18:01. > :18:05.from you, but a lovely atmosphere here today. The Royal meeting, we

:18:05. > :18:10.get a lot of people at the Royal meeting, but today, if you look

:18:10. > :18:15.round, you see all the steps around the paddock, in the saddling

:18:15. > :18:19.enclosure, it's just full! More relaxed than the Royal meeting, it

:18:19. > :18:23.feels like it's unfettered and people have let loose with their

:18:23. > :18:30.emotions. In the Royal meeting you can't get close to everybody

:18:30. > :18:40.because ladies wear big hats! The distances there: A length and a

:18:40. > :18:45.

:18:45. > :18:51.season. He'd won here at the Royal meeting, won the Woking Handicap,

:18:51. > :18:57.but then he took a step up. He went to Newbury, but the real one was at

:18:57. > :19:03.the Curragh in August and he won by seven lengths. He went to Newbury

:19:03. > :19:10.again, came back to five furlongs. This is his optimum trip, six

:19:10. > :19:19.furlongs, I would say. He's absolutely top notch, this horse.

:19:19. > :19:26.And a worthy winner. Fame And Glory won and Deacon Blues won the sprint

:19:26. > :19:30.and both will be contenders for top honours. Maybe not quite in this

:19:30. > :19:38.fellow yet, but as Willie said, next year, we'll probably see him

:19:38. > :19:48.in that cat gloir glory. Anyway, Deacon Blues, the winner -- -- in

:19:48. > :19:55.

:19:55. > :19:59.that category. ropes now, that was a terrible

:19:59. > :20:03.result for the bookies. We said it was 3-1 earlier, because of the

:20:03. > :20:09.first one that won, now 2-1 solid, So You Think for the Champion

:20:09. > :20:17.Stakes. This horse, by the way, when he won the Wokingham off 98

:20:17. > :20:20.Deacon Blues... I know somebody who backed hit. I I do.

:20:20. > :20:23.James Fanshawe and Johnny Murtagh, James, first of all the improvement

:20:23. > :20:28.this horse has shown this season is remarkable. Could you have

:20:28. > :20:32.predicted it at the start of the season? No, no. I always felt it

:20:32. > :20:41.was a nice three-year-old horse. I think he ran tn times a as three-

:20:41. > :20:45.year-old and one one. He's the most amazing horse and has improved

:20:45. > :20:49.since The Wokingham. Was it difficult getting this man back on

:20:49. > :20:55.board or much difficulty convincing Frankie to take the seat on the

:20:55. > :21:04.side? Not sure but I felt to keep it fair, Johnny was the first to

:21:04. > :21:10.ride the hor, he won the Wokingham on him -- ride the horse. Johnny

:21:10. > :21:18.won on Soviet Song. Deacon Blue has his backside right next to the

:21:18. > :21:21.camera, be careful. James is a great trainer, he

:21:21. > :21:25.probably doesn't know how good he is, but for the big days, they

:21:25. > :21:29.usually win. He's a lovely man, got a great family and he looked after

:21:29. > :21:33.me very well. I'm very grateful to him for putting me back on this

:21:33. > :21:39.horse. From the day I won at the Curragh I thought, this is a true

:21:39. > :21:43.group one horse. Why? He won by seven lengths at the Curragh, never

:21:43. > :21:46.came out of second gear, I knew there was a lot more to give and

:21:46. > :21:50.James was, after the race, was ringing up saying he came out of

:21:50. > :21:55.the race really well. That's a great sign of a horse. The way the

:21:55. > :22:03.race went for you today was just about perfect? James said to me go

:22:03. > :22:08.to the rails, Miles Prescott and he got there a bit soon but his

:22:08. > :22:13.momentum was up and he won very easy because I followed him. I

:22:13. > :22:17.think he's a genuine group one horse. What a day this is, James.

:22:17. > :22:22.Henry Cecil coming over to congratulate you, the crowd, the

:22:22. > :22:26.atmosphere, how great was that? fantastic day. Great for Qipco to

:22:26. > :22:30.provide all the wonderful prize money, a lovely crowd, lovely

:22:30. > :22:38.ground and a great day and Deacon Blues won which is great. A real

:22:38. > :22:44.credit to the owners, they bred him with Mr and Mrs Grundy. For a small

:22:44. > :22:48.stud, it's an amazing achievement. Every time there's a big meeting,

:22:48. > :22:57.you are here. Society Rock down the Golden Jubilee again here,

:22:57. > :23:00.fantastic? Well, I'm glad I have a lucky track because I love Ascot.

:23:00. > :23:10.S in our second race. We'll have a look at the start for youfplt I

:23:10. > :23:14.

:23:14. > :23:20.highlighted where the winner, Perfect Tribute who again is rather

:23:20. > :23:24.messing around in the gates and, because misses half a beat, gets a

:23:24. > :23:29.little scramble there with Society Rock. From that stage, Perfect

:23:29. > :23:34.Tribute is struggling all the way through the race? Yes, you can see

:23:34. > :23:39.he's desperate to get himself into a decent position but is unable to

:23:39. > :23:43.do it. Two that didn't have the easiest of runs through. Two of the

:23:43. > :23:48.French horses, Wizz Kid, the eventual runner up there, and

:23:48. > :23:53.Moonlight Cloud with a green cap there. It almost looked as if,

:23:53. > :23:58.although she's up from five furlongs since last time she run,

:23:58. > :24:02.they were going too fast, she couldn't hold her place? Yes, you

:24:02. > :24:07.need to get into the hole as soon as it appears and the racing is

:24:07. > :24:11.very tight with no room for the horse to get through. When the gap

:24:11. > :24:15.comes, Murtagh got a great split off the rail with the winner and

:24:15. > :24:18.he's gone. The one from the right with the green cap is trying to get

:24:19. > :24:24.through and she, all the time, tries to get a run through, gets

:24:24. > :24:34.stopped between the two and the one furlong. Unfortunately, that's

:24:34. > :24:49.

:24:49. > :24:53.sprinting. the drive position, keeping as low

:24:53. > :24:58.as he can and punching the air there, knowing he's got it in the

:24:58. > :25:05.bag. The lower you get in the saddle and the lower you can get to

:25:05. > :25:09.your horse's head, the faster and lower the horse will gal lop. It's

:25:09. > :25:14.-- gallon. If you sit down on a horse, you are telling the horse

:25:14. > :25:19.without pushing the Rehns, go faster, because his stride gets

:25:19. > :25:22.longer and he grabs the ground a bit more -- the reins. With the

:25:23. > :25:26.number of cracks restricted and the jockeys made the point that a lot

:25:26. > :25:32.of that is to do with the sound it makes, are they growling and

:25:32. > :25:37.shouting more do you think to try and motivate a horse? When we had

:25:37. > :25:41.the Derby I never spoke for three days because of screaming. Yes,

:25:41. > :25:44.well, that's one way, you know, basically you are trying to

:25:44. > :25:52.frighten the horse because he wants to give up and you don't want him

:25:52. > :25:58.to give up. So you have to be doing something to keep them going. The

:25:58. > :26:02.whip is a method, possibly an easy method, of keeping them going. It's

:26:02. > :26:05.an essential, essential part of a jockey's tool, the whip.

:26:06. > :26:12.Interesting to see how different the finishes look with restricted

:26:12. > :26:15.use of it and the presentation here for the Qipco sprint being made by

:26:16. > :26:20.Sheikh Altani. The Great Britain men's hockey team are around as

:26:20. > :26:26.well. James Fanshawe receiving and Johnny Murtagh will now get a huge

:26:26. > :26:31.round of applause. Such a reliable jockey, he has a big, big chance

:26:31. > :26:41.coming up on Dancing Rain who he won the Oaks on. Jan and Peter and

:26:41. > :26:43.

:26:43. > :26:53.mike and Michelle will be thrilled with the success is. Here is what

:26:53. > :27:18.

:27:19. > :27:23.Roger Varian who took over from the much-missed Michael Jarvis. He has

:27:23. > :27:27.good chances today. Frankie Dettori gave us a chance to see how he

:27:28. > :27:33.lives at home and talked about how to keep himself motivated in his

:27:33. > :27:38.40th year. He's so much part of it. Part of Ascot. Yes, his enthusiasm

:27:38. > :27:43.helps people to get into something and enjoy it. Do you know, I was

:27:43. > :27:46.interviewing the guy who wrote Warhorse and we saw the puppets

:27:46. > :27:52.here today. I spoke to Michael in the morning and he said, could you

:27:52. > :27:56.say thank you to him for making racing so much fun. Good! Isn't

:27:56. > :28:00.that nice? It is. That's all you have to do now is write into the

:28:00. > :28:05.BBC and say how much you've enjoyed today's racing. Please do that.

:28:05. > :28:09.Thank you! Or you can send it direct to Willie Carson as fan mail.

:28:09. > :28:14.We are celebrating the very best of horse racing and jockeyship and

:28:14. > :28:19.it's a culmination of a week when racing has made more headlines than

:28:19. > :28:23.one would have necessarily wanted. Rishi rounds up the week's whip

:28:23. > :28:29.woes. Three weeks ago, new rules were announced in the sport of

:28:29. > :28:35.Kings and, at the time, the majority of people seemed happy.

:28:35. > :28:40.Concerns over public perception of racing saw the whip hits being

:28:40. > :28:45.reduced to seven and five in the final furlong. There are there is

:28:45. > :28:49.controversy and the new rule is only five days old. Several jockeys

:28:49. > :28:53.are threatening to withdraw. DisUnite amongst them reach this

:28:53. > :28:59.level when the popular and widely admired Richard Hughes... One of

:28:59. > :29:04.the most respected men in the weighing room has quit riding after

:29:04. > :29:08.picking up two bans totalling 15 days. The way is rule is structured,

:29:08. > :29:12.they are making us hit the horse more. I was the foremost of all the

:29:12. > :29:15.boys in the weighing room saying serve season a good thing, we need

:29:15. > :29:20.change in racing, just two weeks before the rules came out, we

:29:20. > :29:24.mensed our concerns about the last furlong. Unfortunately, it fell on

:29:24. > :29:27.deef ears, but a rule can't really be tested until it's brought into

:29:27. > :29:31.effect. As soon as it was brought in, I think it's been proven they

:29:31. > :29:35.were finding it very difficult. What is it going to take to get you

:29:35. > :29:39.back into the saddle? I want them to change the rule, not for me but

:29:39. > :29:43.for the good of the sport. Serve none the last furlong, you know, if

:29:43. > :29:47.you are allowed to hit them seven at your own discretion, do it

:29:47. > :29:52.within the rules giving them time to respond and maybe have a look at

:29:52. > :29:57.the severity. Five days is a long time. Let the stewards use their

:29:57. > :30:00.discretion. If I come back and get done once more, I miss 30 days so I

:30:00. > :30:05.wouldn't come back. I wouldn't do the horses any justice and the

:30:05. > :30:08.position I'm in, I'll be saying, should I pick my stick up, should I

:30:08. > :30:12.not, the only thing you should be thinking about is winning, that's

:30:12. > :30:15.what the sport is all about. Richard Hughes is here as a

:30:15. > :30:25.spectator and handed in his licence on Thursday night because he was so

:30:25. > :30:29.

:30:29. > :30:33.cross at the severity of the of Richard Hughes is he has come

:30:33. > :30:37.here today to apologise to the man who runs Qipco and has put the

:30:37. > :30:40.money behind this series and this Champions' Day to say I'm really

:30:40. > :30:45.sorry that because of what I did, I distracted people from building up

:30:45. > :30:49.this great day. You know I really hope, he will reconsider. There's a

:30:49. > :30:52.big meeting on Monday between the professional Jockeys' Association

:30:52. > :30:56.and the British horse racing authority wr, they will look and

:30:56. > :30:59.possibly take on board Richard's session, seven is fine. But make is

:30:59. > :31:02.seven over the course of the race. But it's difficult to see the

:31:02. > :31:07.furlong marker, particularly in you're in a sprint race in the mid.

:31:07. > :31:10.Course. How do you know, genuinely know when you're inside the final

:31:10. > :31:15.furlong. How many times due not see the furlong pole? I was usualfully

:31:15. > :31:20.front by then. I never used the whip actually. Be serious. Richard

:31:20. > :31:23.Hughes is a very serious and you know, he's one of the stable people,

:31:23. > :31:30.thinking people in the weighing room wha. He says you have to

:31:30. > :31:34.listen to. His views have to be taken on board. The weigh-in room,

:31:34. > :31:39.I've been there today, they're not happy. They are not happy. It's

:31:39. > :31:44.nothing to do with the actual stick, it's the penalties and possibly

:31:44. > :31:50.this furlong marker. If you get, like today in that last race, just

:31:50. > :31:53.watch that last race, just now, how many jockeys would know they've

:31:53. > :31:57.gone past the furlong pole all grouped together? You would have an

:31:57. > :32:05.idea, but you wouldn't know, when you went past the pole. Now

:32:05. > :32:09.naturally, you could get one too many. Do you think in the long run

:32:09. > :32:12.and if a compromise can be reached and the jockeys are happier with

:32:12. > :32:16.doing away with the furlong marker rule, do you think that this will

:32:16. > :32:21.be for the good of racing and an -- and in a year's time we will look

:32:21. > :32:31.back on this day, saying that was even better because the whip rules

:32:31. > :32:34.have come in. Yes, this is the way we have to go. They're being

:32:34. > :32:37.bullied by the animal rights people. Do you think they are snfrplgts yes,

:32:37. > :32:41.they are. That's the reason why they're doing it. It's for the

:32:41. > :32:47.benefit of the sport we're told. The benefit of our sport, who runs

:32:47. > :32:51.the sport, the BHA, who pays for it? The punter. Who's asked the

:32:51. > :32:56.punt whaer they want. None of the punters have been told about the

:32:56. > :33:01.whip rules. Are you going to - do you mean, it's been all over the

:33:01. > :33:05.papers? They read the forms. They're not idiots. They're not

:33:05. > :33:09.being asked. The punter is the person we should be looking up to,

:33:09. > :33:14.what they have to say. Of course, there will be a lot of punters

:33:14. > :33:19.won't be having bets in the next few days, just to see how this is

:33:19. > :33:24.going to go because this is a tool that essential to keep a horse

:33:24. > :33:27.going, not to beat him. I don't think anyone disputes that. You

:33:27. > :33:35.have said to me earlier in the year that you felt jockeys were using

:33:35. > :33:39.their stick too much. Yes. I agree with that. So the rule needed to be

:33:39. > :33:43.looked at. Yes, I agree with that. I agree with getting the numbers

:33:43. > :33:48.down to seven, eight, nine, whatever the number. The jockeys

:33:48. > :33:53.could handle that. This furlong marker and the penalties, oh, the

:33:53. > :33:56.penalties, well they're putting people out of business. Their

:33:56. > :34:01.livelihood is going. What about the wife? What about the kids at home,

:34:01. > :34:06.not getting paid? They're not thinking about that, are are they?

:34:06. > :34:10.You get six months off for two offences? That means they're not

:34:10. > :34:15.going to earn for six months. How many people can handle that? Not

:34:15. > :34:21.many. That is your view on the whip issues and his reaction to what has

:34:21. > :34:25.come in on Monday. Still some work to be done I suspect. The fillies

:34:25. > :34:31.and maerz for the next race are parading now.

:34:31. > :34:38.The sunshine is making a lot of these horses look fantastic. We'll

:34:38. > :34:41.talk first at number seven, Meeznah. She's got better through the season.

:34:41. > :34:45.She's carrying plenty of condition. She certainly does for this time of

:34:45. > :34:52.the year as well. Top man on board, Frankie Dettori. He'll be keen to

:34:52. > :34:59.get off the mark here. Behind her horse number five, Ferdoos. We

:34:59. > :35:04.haven't seen much of her this season. Only one run. It was a very

:35:04. > :35:08.good young trainer. Number four is Crystal Capella. I understand she

:35:08. > :35:12.may be having her last race ever. She's getting a little bit warm.

:35:12. > :35:17.wouldn't say that's a negative. This is a warm day. These are

:35:17. > :35:24.fillies. Some of them are getting their winter coat. Sir Michael

:35:24. > :35:28.stout has had a tough time this year. What do you mean, getting

:35:28. > :35:35.hairy? Yes, unlike us they need extra hair for the winter. Vita

:35:35. > :35:41.Nova is likely to be a well fancied runner. Two weeks ago Henry ses I

:35:41. > :35:45.ill -- Cecil thought she might have been cast in a box. What does that

:35:45. > :35:49.mean? That is like somebody throwing into a bed and being

:35:49. > :35:54.unable to get out of it. That's the situation. The horse was flat on

:35:54. > :35:57.its back, trapped in a korn, unable to get itself out of the situation,

:35:57. > :36:02.crashing and banging to get away from the wall. They worry that

:36:02. > :36:07.maybe she might have done herself an injury. She is OK. Henry ses

:36:07. > :36:10.sill said before she ran in the Yorkshire oaks she was cast in a

:36:10. > :36:15.box. But she's here and ready to do her best.

:36:15. > :36:22.You can see Henry talking to Tom Queally about Vita Nova. She's

:36:22. > :36:28.always thought an awful lot of this filly. She said "She's a lovely

:36:28. > :36:38.filly." It could be a huge, huge day for Henry Cecil. Frankel in the

:36:38. > :36:46.

:36:46. > :36:51.race after next. Then Midday as well. Roger Varion is over here.

:36:51. > :37:01.Neilicalon rides Ferdoos, a key part of Roger's team and a man he

:37:01. > :37:08.relies upon. Neilicalon -- Callan going for a leg up on Ferdoos.

:37:08. > :37:13.She's a filly who has only had one race this year. Her form is

:37:13. > :37:21.possibly one of the best in the race. Absolutely. But she's been

:37:21. > :37:25.off a long time. So it all depends on her fitness today. Michael

:37:25. > :37:29.Stoute walking over here giving Ryan a leg up on Crystal Capella.

:37:29. > :37:33.She looks, a lot of these fillies because of the time of year, their

:37:33. > :37:38.coats have gone slightly. I would say Crystal Capella looks a bit

:37:38. > :37:42.woolly. And Ferdoos has had a trace clip. A lot of fur has been taken

:37:42. > :37:47.off. They've got on a sweat today because they've got longer coats

:37:47. > :37:53.than they should have. Yeah Vita Nova is very, very warm. She looks

:37:53. > :37:58.well. It's a very, very classy race and a lot to work out in terms of

:37:58. > :38:04.form and ability, also emotion running high. It will if Ferdoos is

:38:04. > :38:07.successful here for Roger Varian. I mentioned he took over from Michael

:38:07. > :38:13.Jarvis, a hugely popular trainer who died last month. Roger had

:38:13. > :38:17.taken over the license at Michael's incestence and his wife Gaye very

:38:17. > :38:21.closely involved as well. We keep our fingers crossed for Ferdoos.

:38:21. > :38:27.Let's find out more about one of the newest trainers on this

:38:27. > :38:32.champions stage. First day he came here, it was as

:38:32. > :38:36.though he had been here forever. was in a privileged position to

:38:36. > :38:40.train with a big string of horses. He was always level headed, very

:38:40. > :38:46.sensible, very much like Michael Michael was very good to me,

:38:46. > :38:50.setting me up and giving me owners to support me. Over ten, 12 years

:38:50. > :38:56.built up our relationship to him. He was like a son that Michael

:38:56. > :38:59.never had really. With the family, they've been great to me. It's a

:38:59. > :39:09.secure way for me to feel I can start training and give it

:39:09. > :39:18.

:39:18. > :39:22.know, you're not a roaring trainer, who goes "Look at me, I'm going

:39:22. > :39:26.have winners." Do you it quietly. think if you roar too much about

:39:26. > :39:30.your horses, horses have a good way of making you look silly at times.

:39:30. > :39:34.We try and be honest about horses and I don't think we hide anything.

:39:34. > :39:38.If they're good enough and in good form and run well and can win, we

:39:38. > :39:43.let them dot talking. Ferdoos is one of the favourites for the

:39:43. > :39:50.fillies and mares race. She won her only start at Haydock this year in

:39:50. > :39:55.May. She's always been a little bit wary of everything around her. When

:39:55. > :40:00.the camera first came close to her, she had a good look at it. In her

:40:00. > :40:04.races as well, certainly at Haydock, final furlong there, Neil's arm

:40:04. > :40:09.came up, she almost duck add way from it. She should be getting the

:40:09. > :40:16.hang of it by now. She can run true to the line, if she's in with a

:40:16. > :40:26.chance. This is one is lovely. She's a very attractive filly, very

:40:26. > :40:28.

:40:28. > :40:32.pretty. Very sweet natured. It was Naharain who gave him his first win.

:40:32. > :40:37.Frankie Dettori squeezing through a narrow gap. The timing of it was

:40:37. > :40:44.special. Two days before we had the service for Michael in Newmarket.

:40:44. > :40:53.The filly ran 48 hours later to put her nose in front, it was really

:40:53. > :40:57.special. I guess some things are meant to be. That one of them.

:40:57. > :41:03.Frankie's a fun foreign share a moment like that with, because he's

:41:03. > :41:09.going to be valiant. He's a world class jockey and a great showman as

:41:09. > :41:13.well. He jumps off and hugs and kisses everyone. For a first big

:41:13. > :41:18.wiber here -- winner here, it was a special day. You went through

:41:18. > :41:26.something in those three days of an incredibly emotional low to a great

:41:26. > :41:36.high. How do you deal with that? Well, it's a course of life a

:41:36. > :41:44.little bit. We often have lows and highs and they can come close

:41:44. > :41:49.together. I had, last year, I lost my brother, tragically, only five

:41:49. > :41:55.days before I got married last August. It puts everything into

:41:55. > :42:05.perspective and it puts training race horses into perspective. It's

:42:05. > :42:05.

:42:05. > :42:10.just been 13, 14 months, which you wouldn't believe the ups and downs.

:42:10. > :42:15.Over the last year, Roger Varian has gone through so much and this,

:42:15. > :42:19.the filly that carries his hopes, Ferdoos, Neil Callan in the saddle.

:42:19. > :42:23.She is well fancied for this race. We hope this will be the start of

:42:23. > :42:30.life improving for Roger. His wife is expecting their first baby next

:42:30. > :42:34.month. Gaye Jarvis is here as well today. Keep your fingers crossed

:42:34. > :42:44.and wish her well. Let's show you the fillies and mares who have been

:42:44. > :42:56.

:42:56. > :43:02.successful over the Qipco series Dettori!

:43:02. > :43:12.COMMENTATOR: Dancing Rain is going to get it. What a ride by Johnny

:43:12. > :43:29.

:43:29. > :43:39.She wins the Coronation Stakes in here. Here comes Midday now

:43:39. > :43:39.

:43:39. > :43:44.unleashed by Queally. She's holding on. Blue Bunting strikes the front.

:43:44. > :43:48.She's going to win the Yorkshire oaks.

:43:48. > :43:53.Blue bunting sadly not able to be with us today. You'll see Midday

:43:53. > :43:58.running later and Imperial Guest taking on Frankel. Dancing Rain --

:43:58. > :44:02.Immortal Verse taking on Frankel. Dancing Rain won one of the

:44:02. > :44:07.qualifiers in the oaks at Epsom. She was 20-1 that day. Everybody

:44:07. > :44:12.knows about her now. She has a big chance. Leets' -- let's see what's

:44:12. > :44:22.favourite whether there is money for Dancing Rain or Vita Nova.

:44:22. > :44:29.

:44:29. > :44:35.too much money for Dancing Rain at Vita Nova will ge off favourite.

:44:35. > :44:40.Don't forget Ferdoos last week was 6-1. It's been an anti-post gamble.

:44:40. > :44:46.All the punters who fancied Ferdoos have been on all week. They've been

:44:46. > :44:49.taking the 11-2 and 5-1. Ferdoos still strong.

:44:49. > :44:57.Let's look at the fillies now they've arrived at the start. Vita

:44:57. > :45:01.Nova has to be one of the most unlucky fillies in training. Her

:45:01. > :45:05.saddle slipped. Ferdoos won the race. Yes. Her saddle slipped. Tom

:45:05. > :45:15.Queally was very, very luck tkwroi stay on board. Actually, it was

:45:15. > :45:18.

:45:18. > :45:21.Gertrude Bell. This is Brushing. She doesn't fancy the tunnel at all.

:45:21. > :45:29.She's through the tunnel Claire, now she's out. She doesn't want to

:45:29. > :45:35.go further. We talks about fillies and their coats, and their term

:45:35. > :45:39.perplts -- term perplts. Yes we know about that. It just needs

:45:39. > :45:43.tender handling. That's where I've been going wrong. Exactly! Looks

:45:43. > :45:49.like Kieron has persuaded her it might be nice to go in the sunshine

:45:49. > :45:59.and see the crowds. There she goes. You see, tender handling worked.

:45:59. > :46:00.

:46:00. > :46:06.Yeah, really simple. We're learning. She has an outside chance Brushing.

:46:06. > :46:11.We talked about Vita Nova and how she could kick off three massive

:46:11. > :46:14.races. There's two things going on for Henry Cecil. There's individual

:46:14. > :46:19.horses. The chance to be the leading trainer through the

:46:19. > :46:25.champion series. And the other thing is the overall championship.

:46:25. > :46:28.He has to get 1.5 million. Richard Hannon virtually has it in the bag.

:46:28. > :46:32.Sir Henry with a smile on his face. The Queen will knight him in the

:46:32. > :46:39.Autumn. There's Ed Dunlop next to him.

:46:39. > :46:44.They're having a chat and a laugh. He's always got one of those

:46:44. > :46:50.charoots in his hand. His father was exactly the same. Very nervous

:46:50. > :46:53.training these high-class fillies. Henry Cecil there. The Queen is a

:46:53. > :46:58.big fan. She doesn't have horses training with him. When Her Majesty

:46:58. > :47:01.goes to Newmarket gallops Henry makes a point of going over and say

:47:01. > :47:05.hello. Let's say well done to Her Majesty, she had a winner in France

:47:05. > :47:11.the other day trained by John Hammond, the first time for 15

:47:11. > :47:16.years. Meeznah, trained by David Lanigan. I think you have a fancy

:47:16. > :47:21.for. It's a filly who keeps on improving. She keeps Frankie gets

:47:21. > :47:27.on well with his filly. Yes, she has to improve again today to win

:47:27. > :47:33.on her form at Doncaster. That was a very good performance there. This

:47:33. > :47:39.is, Claire, we've got championship races, you know, it's like Cup

:47:39. > :47:47.Finals. Every race is the ultimate. This race, there's a lot of fillies

:47:47. > :47:52.who are trying to win and be the best. The temper mental Brushing

:47:52. > :48:02.will be the last to join the group. Let's look at the course here

:48:02. > :48:10.

:48:10. > :48:16.at Ascot. This is the finale for the great fillies. The mile-and-a-

:48:16. > :48:23.half is one of the toughest races to run at Ascot. Having a good

:48:23. > :48:28.position is key, the first bit of the race. You have an uphill rise

:48:28. > :48:35.to the final bend. Position is key. So one or two off the rail is very

:48:35. > :48:38.important. Sometimes, you can be -- there can be traffic problems in

:48:38. > :48:41.the bend. As you approach the straight there's three furlongs to

:48:41. > :48:51.go. There's plenty of time to find yourself in a good, challenging

:48:51. > :48:51.

:48:52. > :49:01.position. Having a horse with a final kick is very important.

:49:01. > :49:05.So Ferdoos and Vita Nova joint favourites at 7-2.

:49:05. > :49:10.I think everybody is saving their money for Frankel. There's about 40

:49:10. > :49:20.minutes to go. The atmosphere down here is live. In this race, no 7-2

:49:20. > :49:22.

:49:22. > :49:29.the field. I can't find a favourite, can you? Banimpire she's had six

:49:29. > :49:39.wins this season. She won the Ribbledael. She's had a hard, long

:49:39. > :49:43.

:49:43. > :49:50.season. They keep producing. This is a fantastic race. It is a good

:49:50. > :49:55.race. They're loading up quickly. COMMENTATOR: There's Johnny Murtagh,

:49:55. > :50:05.already a winner on the board. Can he make it a dibble? That's it,

:50:05. > :50:13.

:50:13. > :50:20.they're ready. Set and racing. field, the yellow jacket the

:50:20. > :50:26.outside. In the centre, Banimpire. Further back the inside Bible Belt.

:50:26. > :50:30.Brushing is pulling hard back in the field. Crystal Capella on

:50:30. > :50:36.settling down, Dancing Rain the leader on the inside for the big

:50:36. > :50:40.white face of Gertrude Bell. They're a length-and-a-half now.

:50:40. > :50:46.39mph downhill as they run to swindly boat om. Vita Nova in

:50:46. > :50:49.fourth. Followed by Ferdoos and on the inside Banimpire. They're a

:50:49. > :50:56.length-and-a-half clear of Bible Belt who's out the back now.

:50:56. > :51:00.Brushing giving them a start. So too Crystal Capella and Cill

:51:00. > :51:05.Rialaig. Just under seven furlongs to travel. In front it's Dancing

:51:05. > :51:10.Rain. By the best part of four lengths, to Gertrude Bell. Half a

:51:10. > :51:13.length away Vita Nova, followed by Meeznah, the outside. Banimpire

:51:14. > :51:18.behind them on the inside of Ferdoos and then Bible Belt.

:51:19. > :51:28.Brushing out of back in company with Crystal Capella and Cill

:51:28. > :51:34.Rialaig. Dancing Rain is doing all the work. Gertrude Bell next the

:51:34. > :51:37.outside, travelling kindly. A length to Vita Nova, the inside

:51:37. > :51:41.from Meeznah, then Banimpire on the inside of Ferdoos. Who is being

:51:41. > :51:45.anythingled. Followed by Bible Belt from Brushing, Crystal Capella. No

:51:45. > :51:49.significant change. Dancing Rain has got them on the stretch as they

:51:49. > :51:55.turn the corner. A leng-and-a-half inside of Gertrude Bell, Vita Nova

:51:55. > :52:00.behind them. Followed by Meeznah and further back is Bible Belt.

:52:00. > :52:06.They Set Sail, for two furlongs to travel. Dancing Rain in front from

:52:06. > :52:12.Gertrude Bell. Vita Nova. Banimpire down the outside with Meeznah.

:52:12. > :52:16.Still Dancing Rain with a furlong to go responding well for Johnny

:52:16. > :52:20.Murtagh. Bible Belt with a late surge now on the outside. It's

:52:20. > :52:25.still Dancing Rain in fronts. And Dancing Rain is going all the way.

:52:25. > :52:30.What a performance. Dancing Rain goes on to win it well, from in

:52:30. > :52:39.second place, Bible Belt, Gertrude Bell and Crystal Capella finish,

:52:39. > :52:42.followed by Cill Rialaig, then Meeznah, Vita Nova is one of the

:52:42. > :52:49.last to pull up in company there with Brushing. The winner is

:52:49. > :52:54.Dancing Rain. A double for Johnny Murtagh. 6-1 winner of the Qipco

:52:54. > :53:04.British champions fillies and mares stakes over a mile-and-a-half.

:53:04. > :53:19.

:53:19. > :53:29.Second is Bible Belt ridden diFran all the way. Cill Rialaig came from

:53:29. > :53:30.

:53:30. > :53:40.the rear. Vita Nova, disappointing, came into the straight with a real

:53:40. > :53:50.

:53:50. > :53:58.the winner is Number 11, Dancing Rain, the oaks winner at Epsom from

:53:58. > :54:06.Johnny Murtagh. A really class filly, trained by wig yum haggis

:54:06. > :54:10.and ridden by Johnny Murtagh. Second, Bible Belt trained by

:54:10. > :54:20.Jessie Harrington. Third number six Gertrude Bell trained by John

:54:20. > :54:24.

:54:25. > :54:29.Gosden and ridden by Buick. -- Murtagh in two very different

:54:29. > :54:33.manners. He makes the running on Dancing Rain goes fast early on,

:54:33. > :54:37.steadies up all around the bend and picks up again from the front.

:54:37. > :54:40.Hugely disappointing runs from Vita Nova, who looked too keen early on

:54:40. > :54:45.from Ferdoos in yellow, dropping out now. Crystal Capella was never

:54:45. > :54:49.really in it. Out in front, you cannot deny that this filly,

:54:49. > :54:55.Dancing Rain, is proper quality. She's an oaks winner, a German oaks

:54:55. > :54:59.winner and now the champion for the fillies and mares division. Yes,

:54:59. > :55:02.Johnny Murtagh dictated matters. He grabbed the lead, slow it up and

:55:03. > :55:07.picked it up when he wanted to. Johnny will have a smile from ear

:55:07. > :55:11.to ear. He gets a lot of pleasure in riding this sort of race. He

:55:11. > :55:14.loves the big crowd. He loves the big day. He's taking Dancing Rain

:55:14. > :55:18.downed in front of the stands now it get the appreciation of the

:55:18. > :55:26.crowd. I think a the lo of people will have backed her at 6-1 "Hang

:55:26. > :55:34.on, she won the oaks, didn't she?" She is a top-class filly. I'm just

:55:34. > :55:38.disappointed I didn't get on. run from Bible Belt in second.

:55:38. > :55:42.be delighted with that. I saw her when I came in here and said "You

:55:42. > :55:47.look very smart today." She sd "So I should. It's a big day and we're

:55:47. > :55:49.trying to nick a bit of prize money." Gertrude Bell has been a

:55:49. > :55:54.consistent horse. And Crystal Capella running on there, yellow

:55:54. > :56:01.cap in the back of the shot, finishing fourth. That confirmed

:56:01. > :56:05.the last race of her career. She'll be retired to stud. We will see a

:56:05. > :56:11.foal of hers in future years. a lovely horse this winner is.

:56:11. > :56:14.She's a strong, tough and exactly what you need. In -- the amount of

:56:14. > :56:24.winners Johnny Murtagh has ridden on the big stage, he'll get a lot

:56:24. > :56:26.

:56:26. > :56:31.of pleasure out of this. Look at him.

:56:31. > :56:41.William haggis getting the congratulations an the owners will

:56:41. > :56:42.

:56:42. > :56:45.be so thrilled. What a valuable mare she is and how much she has

:56:45. > :56:52.gathered this season. I remember how surprised, not surprised, when

:56:52. > :57:02.we saw her win at Epsom, we thought, hello, where has she come from.

:57:02. > :57:03.

:57:03. > :57:07.Maureen Haggas, his wife, rides. There will be a great reception for

:57:07. > :57:12.Johnny Murtagh here. He's a hugely popular jockey. My word, he is good.

:57:12. > :57:15.He really is. Great judge of pace. CHEERING

:57:15. > :57:20.Strong jockey in the finish as well. He's done. It Very popular with the

:57:20. > :57:23.lads as well. This will mean plenty. They like to see one of their own

:57:23. > :57:29.grabbing it. Even though Johnny is based in Ireland now, they treat

:57:29. > :57:33.him as one of their own. Still best friends with Frankie Dettori.

:57:33. > :57:38.him a hotel bill. Exactly, all the things important.

:57:38. > :57:45.This is what you call a real money spinner, if you're an owner. This

:57:45. > :57:50.Dancing Rain, who cost 200 -- 200,000 guineas as a yearling,

:57:50. > :57:57.she's only won four races and three of them have been six-figure sums.

:57:57. > :58:03.She won the oaks at Epsom 184,000. She won the German occasion 198,000.

:58:03. > :58:08.Today, she's won the Qipco British champions fillies and mares stakes

:58:08. > :58:12.141 ,000 to the winner. So that is a money spinner. If you're going to

:58:12. > :58:22.win races, you may as well win them with that sort of prize money,

:58:22. > :58:27.

:58:27. > :58:30.really, really valuable filly now with us now. Do you think she'll

:58:30. > :58:35.get the recognition for being an outstanding filly snfrplts as long

:58:35. > :58:39.as she keeps winning like that, she will. Yeah, yeah, we think she's

:58:39. > :58:43.outstanding. She's fantastic. good was the ride? It's always a

:58:43. > :58:48.good ride when they win. I've always believed that. He did very

:58:48. > :58:54.well. Johnny was cross after Irish oaks and felt he didn't make enough

:58:54. > :58:58.use of her. He came in and said, "I don't usually make the same mistake

:58:58. > :59:04.twice." He certainly didn't do that today. He seemed to judge the

:59:04. > :59:10.fractions to perfection. Yeah, he D he's a top-class rider. I must say,

:59:10. > :59:15.my wife Maureen rides this filly every day, as she did Diva Dream,

:59:15. > :59:20.who she lost last weekend. She said today that the filly felt as good

:59:20. > :59:24.as ever, if not better. Full credit to her. She deserves all the glory,

:59:24. > :59:30.not me. Are we going to see her next year? I think the plan is to

:59:30. > :59:34.go to Japan on the 13th November. Very much next year, absolutely.

:59:34. > :59:38.Well done. We're going to swap you over with Johnny. Once again,

:59:38. > :59:45.another fantastic ride. This one you had to be a bit more cunning

:59:45. > :59:52.than on Deacon Blues, is that fair? This one, listen, I wasn't going to

:59:52. > :59:56.make a mess like in the Irish stakes. We were going a good pace

:59:56. > :00:02.there. The ground was tacky and I stopped the momentum. She ran right

:00:02. > :00:06.up on the heels at the the end. Today was building gallop all the

:00:06. > :00:10.way. William says let her use that momentum and she's got a good high

:00:10. > :00:14.cruising gear and can quicken off it. Were you aware how quick you

:00:14. > :00:18.were going. The winning time was half a second slower than the

:00:18. > :00:25.course record. It was a good one all the way. I knew, I let her roll

:00:25. > :00:28.down the hill. She was going plenty quick enough, but I didn't want to

:00:29. > :00:35.disappoint. She's a good galloper. She would stay well. The others

:00:35. > :00:38.would have to stay to get me. Fair dos to her, very brave. I don't

:00:38. > :00:44.think she'd have been able to do that in oaks time. She was a bit

:00:44. > :00:48.weak. Today she was able to. She's got a lot stronger and she could

:00:48. > :00:58.maintain the high cruise for mile- and-a-half. You're glad they

:00:58. > :01:08.

:01:08. > :01:13.brought Champions' Day to Ascot. performance.

:01:13. > :01:16.Gary, the atmosphere is bubbling up nicely? It's amazing. You look at

:01:16. > :01:20.that stand behind you and I hope they've got plenty of nuts and

:01:20. > :01:24.bolts there because, I'll tell you what, if Frankel wins, the roof

:01:24. > :01:29.could fall off here, everybody wants Frankel, don't they,

:01:29. > :01:32.fantastic! And I think he will win. How far will he win, John? Under

:01:32. > :01:38.three lengths. I don't think so. think the French horse might give

:01:38. > :01:44.him a little race. Do you really? We'll find out, that race due off

:01:44. > :01:49.at 3.35. Look at this for a man that puts in the miles Earl earlier.

:01:49. > :01:55.This is Johnny Murtagh, runs around the course before every race, he

:01:55. > :02:05.needs to sweat a lot. He does it because it pays off on days like

:02:05. > :02:09.

:02:09. > :02:14.Rain won this. My glamorous Assistant is smaller than the

:02:14. > :02:18.previous one. You all right? No box here. Dancing Rain from the outside.

:02:18. > :02:23.We have heard already from Johnny Murtagh that it's a very fast time.

:02:23. > :02:28.We saw from the time, the average speed was 40mph going downhill for

:02:28. > :02:31.a mile and a half race earlier on, that is a quick speed? This part is

:02:31. > :02:35.downhill and you can see Johnny using his hands to go with the

:02:35. > :02:38.stride of the filly. He's stayed out wide, didn't want to come

:02:38. > :02:43.across to the horses to set her alight. He wanted to keep her away

:02:43. > :02:49.from the other horses, get her to the front and then slide towards

:02:49. > :02:59.the inside rail and get her off the bridle, get her relaxed and into a

:02:59. > :02:59.

:02:59. > :03:03.very nice rhythm. He did that. she is. This is where he's in front

:03:03. > :03:08.of the field going quite quickly because we got a nice time and this

:03:08. > :03:13.is the point where you come around the corner and start climbing. This

:03:13. > :03:19.is where he slows the race down and he gets the race to get a little

:03:19. > :03:25.bit slower and the whole field concertinas right up together.

:03:25. > :03:33.stage he has to give the filly up, can't let her go full pelt? Can't

:03:33. > :03:42.let her go the full way. There she is in front. That's the third. The

:03:42. > :03:46.second horse is there Bible Belt with the yellow and red sleeves.

:03:46. > :03:50.This is where Johnny Murtagh goes for home. He's on a horse he knows

:03:51. > :03:56.very well. Won two Oaks on her. She's a classy filly and he says,

:03:56. > :04:00.right, love, you can go for home. Just gone past the two furlong pole

:04:00. > :04:05.and he goes there, says come on, stride out, go for it, you've got

:04:05. > :04:10.to get your race won because we've got some very nice fillies coming

:04:10. > :04:14.behind me and they're unable to repel.

:04:14. > :04:18.He's on the best horse, you would have to say, but he's given here a

:04:18. > :04:23.very good tactical ride. That's how she goes on to win. We

:04:23. > :04:33.hear the second horse has got offers to ride in Hong Kong and

:04:33. > :04:33.

:04:33. > :04:38.Japan and the third, Gertrude Bell, I think she's been retired. There

:04:38. > :04:48.is the average winning speeds for you from the final five furlongs

:04:48. > :05:00.

:05:00. > :05:05.and the fasters is from the furlong is coming up in the Qipco Queen

:05:05. > :05:09.Elizabeth II Stakes, the final leg of the mile series. This horse has

:05:09. > :05:13.dominated the mile division this year. He is a sensational animal.

:05:13. > :05:18.Can't wait to see him in action. And the man who is in charge of

:05:18. > :05:22.steering him is Tom Queally. He looks very relaxed actually,

:05:22. > :05:27.doesn't he? He's the only jockey who's plezed about the controversy

:05:27. > :05:33.with the whip, it's deflected the attention away from him. -- pleased.

:05:33. > :05:37.That's a very good point. A cool customer. He's saying, back off now.

:05:37. > :05:41.We'll leave you alone now. Frankel no idea of what superstar he is, no

:05:41. > :05:45.idea of what is in front of him. He likes a crowd though, a showman,

:05:45. > :05:51.and he enjoys the big occasion. went to Newbury specifically to see

:05:51. > :05:59.him in the flesh and he is just a monster, he really is. I just think

:05:59. > :06:05.that he's a good looking specimen that I've seen in a long time.

:06:06. > :06:10.remnants of the trophy presentation there. Frankel there. He's actually

:06:10. > :06:16.not anoverly big horse, he's just got so much power. Such a deep

:06:16. > :06:21.girth and all the Mauer comes from behind him -- all the power comes

:06:21. > :06:26.from behind him. The best is yet to come with the QEII and Champion

:06:26. > :06:36.Stakes, but this is what's already happened on the Qipco British

:06:36. > :07:08.

:07:08. > :07:13.has gone all the way. What a performance. Dancing Rain goes on

:07:13. > :07:17.to win as well. It's been a great day so far. For the rest of the

:07:17. > :07:22.programme, we've got the incredibly capable brain of Hayley Turner with

:07:22. > :07:25.us, a jockey who rode her first two group one winners this year. A

:07:25. > :07:29.sensational season for you. You've got little flat shoes on, a

:07:29. > :07:34.horrible scar down your left ankle, how are you recovering? I'm wearing

:07:34. > :07:39.flat shoes because I thought I'd be stood to willry Carson all day but

:07:39. > :07:43.he's not here. It's going really well. Went to the doctors yesterday,

:07:43. > :07:48.they said I could have my moon boot which I'd been wearing for the last

:07:48. > :07:52.couple of weeks off, so it was good timing. A really sad end to a

:07:52. > :07:55.season that's been glorious for you through the summer? Yes, an

:07:55. > :07:58.absolutely amazing season. After the injury, the only way was to

:07:58. > :08:02.look on the bright side and if someone said to me at the beginning

:08:02. > :08:05.of the season, you can have 84 winners and you can have two group

:08:05. > :08:09.one winners and then a four month holiday at the end of it, you know,

:08:09. > :08:13.I would have been quite happy with that. Your first group one winner

:08:13. > :08:17.on Dream Ahead and he just cut through the field and he's been one

:08:17. > :08:24.of the real stars this year as well? Yes, I was really lucky to

:08:24. > :08:27.get on him. It's William Bewick's ride, but there was high class

:08:27. > :08:31.racing all around the country on that day and William unfortunately

:08:31. > :08:35.had to go somewhere else so I got the opportunity to get on board, so

:08:35. > :08:39.very lucky. Talk us through what it's like for the jockeys in the

:08:39. > :08:45.changing room now preparing for two group one races to finish off this

:08:45. > :08:50.massive day in front of the crowds. What have they done already today?

:08:50. > :08:54.Queally and Fortune there. What has their day consisted of already?

:08:54. > :08:58.Would they have been working this morning? Yes, and it's a Saturday,

:08:58. > :09:02.the busiest work mornings in Newmarket, so they would have been

:09:02. > :09:05.up early, gone to ride work, gone home, probably had to get in the

:09:05. > :09:09.bath and have a sweat or miss breakfast and then drive here.

:09:09. > :09:13.There's not that much time to get wound up about the whole thing.

:09:13. > :09:17.We've had weeks of building the whole thing up, they've been riding

:09:17. > :09:21.every day and their minds are not on totally stressing out about it

:09:21. > :09:25.until now. The cameras are on, Tom's acting cool but I'm sure

:09:25. > :09:29.inside he's anxious about the whole thing. How difficult a job is it

:09:29. > :09:35.actually not to ride Frankel so much, but how tough is it to ride

:09:35. > :09:37.for Henry Cecil, is he somebody who will give very specific

:09:37. > :09:41.instructions? Sir Henry has his ideas of how he wants his horses to

:09:41. > :09:45.be rode, but I think having been in his team for the whole season, Tom

:09:45. > :09:49.will know what he wants and how he likes the horses to be ridden.

:09:49. > :09:55.That's Frankel behind the closed door there, being saddled up now,

:09:55. > :10:00.Rennesry having private time with the superstar? I walked over and

:10:00. > :10:04.bumped into Sir Henry. There's Jane, his wife. Instead of talking about

:10:04. > :10:07.his nervousness about the horse running, he was more asking how si

:10:07. > :10:11.am and don't be nervous about coming on the BBC, you'll be fine

:10:11. > :10:19.and it's like never mind me, you've got Frankel running in half an

:10:19. > :10:22.hour! There was a drinks party and they stayed at the Dorchester last

:10:22. > :10:27.night and Jane hadn't been there before and they were very excited.

:10:27. > :10:32.They've tried to make it feel special and to enjoy it but also to

:10:32. > :10:37.relax into it. The horses are lined up now in front of their banners

:10:37. > :10:41.and very soon it will be over to them to take over, two down, do

:10:41. > :10:47.their job and come back over the straight mile. It's the straight

:10:47. > :10:55.course here for the Queen Elizabeth II and I'm fairly certain for the

:10:55. > :11:00.first time. It was ran once at Newmarket and then it was

:11:00. > :11:02.transferred? Yes, the jockeys once they're on board, they get in the

:11:02. > :11:05.zone. When you're on the horse, the crowd goes away, they're there and

:11:05. > :11:10.you are amongst a massive atmosphere. But they just

:11:10. > :11:14.concentrate on what they've got to do. I was talking to one of the

:11:14. > :11:18.starters -- the starters earlier and we were discussing how on a

:11:18. > :11:22.group one day, at the start, the jockeys, there's not as much banter,

:11:22. > :11:25.they are not taking the mickey as much and they are in the zone and

:11:25. > :11:31.concentrating more than they usually would. He is going to start

:11:31. > :11:34.as the shortest priced favourite for the Queen Elizabeth II since

:11:34. > :11:44.Brigadier Gerrard back in the '70s. He's the highest rated horse in the

:11:44. > :11:45.

:11:45. > :12:57.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:12:57. > :13:00.world, he could be the best horse entrance into this packed paddock

:13:00. > :13:05.here,. The hundred is about to emerge from under the tunnel,

:13:05. > :13:10.Willie, and there's a magnificent crowd and atmosphere. Tell us,

:13:10. > :13:14.nurpbdz, why this horse is as good as he is? -- in your own words?

:13:14. > :13:21.Because he's unbeaten for one thing and the manner in which he gallops,

:13:21. > :13:27.he wins his races by a long margin every time and he's coming into the

:13:28. > :13:31.paddock. With his half brother? Here comes Frankel and a round of

:13:31. > :13:36.applause greets the unbeaten champion, Frankel. The best horse

:13:36. > :13:41.in the world is here to do his stuff at Ascot. That's got to be on

:13:41. > :13:45.fire today. He has to be on top because the French filly who won

:13:45. > :13:52.the Coronation here earlier in the year is a very good filly and there

:13:52. > :13:59.is other horses today who're very, very good. Dubai gold,

:14:00. > :14:04.Excelebration who finished second to him twice. He has to be beat

:14:04. > :14:11.Dick Turpin. Very good horses in their own right. He has to be at

:14:11. > :14:15.his best, but we think and I think this is the best horse I've ever

:14:15. > :14:20.seen. I'm expecting this horse to win unchallenged. I even had

:14:20. > :14:27.Frankie Dettori saying, I've ridden 50 group one winners, I've never

:14:27. > :14:32.ridden one like Frankel. And he's ridden Dubai Millennium?

:14:32. > :14:37.And a lot of good horses. He thinks he's the best he's ever seen. All

:14:37. > :14:41.he's ever seen of Frankel is his backside. It's almost universally

:14:41. > :14:44.acknowledged that Frankel is the best horse around.

:14:44. > :14:49.Among those watching Frankel was Her Majesty the Queen and taking in

:14:49. > :14:57.the awesome sight of his gleaming skin and muscles. Henry Cecil's

:14:57. > :15:01.just come through to join the two jockeys, Tom Queally and Ian Mungen.

:15:01. > :15:05.The Queen with her racing advisor and Sir Michael Stoute who rides

:15:05. > :15:10.for the Queen. There was ant Royal runner today. Had Carlton House

:15:10. > :15:18.recovered, he could have been in the Champion Stakes, but that's the

:15:18. > :15:28.only thing lacking from a perfect day.

:15:28. > :15:34.

:15:34. > :15:38.Richard Hughes is not riding Dick Turpin, so it's Soumillon. Frankie

:15:38. > :15:42.Dettori coming through here with Saeed bin Suroor. What's the matter,

:15:42. > :15:46.you all right? Yes. Not a winner yet. You could win? Yes. Chance of

:15:46. > :15:50.winning second to Frankel? Hopefully first, you never know!

:15:50. > :15:54.We'll try for first! I know you will. We'll see Frankie at home

:15:54. > :15:59.with his donkeys and dogs and children later on and Johnny

:15:59. > :16:05.Murtagh coming across in front of me. Having a great day so far. Had

:16:05. > :16:11.two winners already. He's going to get the leg up on Dubai gold. This

:16:11. > :16:15.filly, when he gets the leg up, have a look at this, she could be

:16:15. > :16:20.the one, Immortal Verse, she's like a jet engine, she just takes off.

:16:20. > :16:24.We saw her winning at the Royal meeting here and she's sensational.

:16:24. > :16:29.She's got a real ball of power behind her.

:16:29. > :16:32.It will be interesting, when we see the time force this race, I think

:16:32. > :16:37.people within the sport and outside it are going to be so interested to

:16:37. > :16:45.see how this filly clocks in the last two furlongs compared to

:16:45. > :16:55.Frankel's big burst of speed is, whether it's between the two-and-a-

:16:55. > :16:55.

:16:55. > :16:59.half and the three-and-a-half or after that. There is an awful lot

:16:59. > :17:03.of people in this paddock and even more around it and that applause

:17:03. > :17:08.for Frankel as he came in gave me goose bumps, Absolutely Fabulous,

:17:08. > :17:12.before the race has even started. Tom Queally getting on board

:17:12. > :17:16.Frankling. Willie, the crowd around here are all murmuring and

:17:16. > :17:21.mumbling? Never heard an atmosphere like it. Such a noise. People are

:17:21. > :17:26.talking about this guy. They're all pleased to see him. He's just got a

:17:26. > :17:32.little tiny bit of sweat in-between his hind legs, but basically, he's

:17:32. > :17:37.quite cool and the filly... Here are his two main oppositions

:17:37. > :17:42.seemibly, number 6 Excelebration and 8 Immortal Verse? Immortal

:17:42. > :17:48.Verse has been completely out. You can see the little marks on the

:17:48. > :17:51.back. And horse 8? Yes, that's 8. There's a mark where she's been

:17:51. > :17:56.completely clipped out. That's not detrimental in any way of course,

:17:56. > :18:01.it's just a gily at this time of the year, they're growing their

:18:01. > :18:06.coats and if they're racing, you have to take the long coat away --

:18:06. > :18:09.a filly. It would be uncomfortable to be running with a fur coat on,

:18:09. > :18:19.wouldn't it? It would be. Frankel's dominated the mile tuition all year

:18:19. > :18:39.

:18:39. > :18:46.long and we can see that from these foot. Canford Cliffs wins...

:18:46. > :18:52.Canford Cliffs gets his neck in front now. Fighting back is... Oh,

:18:52. > :19:02.Canford Cliffs goes on to win it. Frankel now is starting to paddle.

:19:02. > :19:04.

:19:04. > :19:10.He's going up and down. He's held on! Frankel's won it. Frankel is

:19:11. > :19:20.going along. Frankel is too good. would think he's one of the best

:19:20. > :19:24.horses we've ever seen. Stretching them here. Ransom note wins. It may

:19:24. > :19:31.be all about Frankel, but this man is plotting his downfall because he

:19:31. > :19:35.trains Excelebration who's been second to Frankel a couple of times

:19:35. > :19:44.now. You must have hope that you can get close and perhaps even beat

:19:44. > :19:49.him? Yes, obviously the horse looks well, got a bit warm in the paddock

:19:49. > :19:54.because it's so hot today. We are hopeful to close the gap. In terms

:19:54. > :19:58.of tactics, how do you go about it? It should be an even pace. Frankel

:19:58. > :20:02.has a pace-maker, so hopefully there won't be any hard luck

:20:02. > :20:07.stories, it's going to be a straightforward race, both horses

:20:07. > :20:14.have a good turn of foot and the race will happen in the last

:20:14. > :20:18.furlong. Exciting to be in it, isn't it? It's a great day. Lovely.

:20:18. > :20:23.Exciting to be here. We'll let you enjoy it, Marco, thank you very

:20:23. > :20:28.much indeed. In the crowd are Ant &Dec having a look at the runners

:20:28. > :20:32.for the QEII. The parade took place a moment or two ago. Let's take you

:20:32. > :20:36.through the eight extraordinary horses. They're headed by Bullet

:20:36. > :20:43.Train ah half brother to Frankel, they have the same mother who is

:20:43. > :20:47.called Kind. He's a pace-maker. Dick Turpin, not as good this year

:20:47. > :20:51.perhaps as last year. Frankie Dettori told us we are going to be

:20:51. > :21:00.trying, Poet's Voice, 33-1, and bear in mind, he was the winner of

:21:00. > :21:06.this race last year. Side Glance for Jimmy Fortune. Andrew Balding

:21:06. > :21:10.the trainer. A 50-1 shot, probably reflecting his chances. The kip quo

:21:10. > :21:14.mastermind man's taken over him. Dubawi Gold for Johnny Murtagh,

:21:14. > :21:18.good horses these are at long prices, such is the expectation

:21:18. > :21:23.that Frankel will dominate. Excelebration, we just talked to

:21:23. > :21:29.his trainer, Marco Botti, and he's looking like he's having a little

:21:29. > :21:33.look at the crowd there, Jamie Spencer who won on Fame And Glory.

:21:33. > :21:38.Frankel looks the calmest of the lot, nothing bothers this horse, he

:21:38. > :21:45.can be pretty forceful in a race itself and takes a keen hold, but

:21:45. > :21:55.he's utterly calm here. He's go ck, crowd, crowd, what crowd?! Then the

:21:55. > :21:57.

:21:57. > :22:07.French filly, she comes back pretty darn fast, Immortal Verse for

:22:07. > :22:16.

:22:16. > :22:20.Gerard Mosse. An unbelievable you can have? Unpleefable. The

:22:20. > :22:24.bookies think Frankel's already past the post but this is a

:22:24. > :22:28.Championship race and anyone can win. Some are going 6-4 that

:22:28. > :22:34.Frankel breaks the track record and also bed Fred are 10-1 Frankel but

:22:34. > :22:41.you have got to name the winning distabs. -- distance.

:22:41. > :22:46.If I was playing, I suppose I would go Frankel four lengths, how about

:22:46. > :22:51.you? A bit less. Because you've gone bigger, I'll go shorter.

:22:52. > :22:58.Higher, lower, higher, lower... Great anticipation and expectation

:22:58. > :23:03.in the crowd, but there's Frankel. He has the two handlers. It was

:23:03. > :23:07.interesting that soon after we took these pictures, that Tom Queally,

:23:07. > :23:13.he took him to the far side of the course and has allowed him to just

:23:13. > :23:18.go very steadly to the post. And there he is. Kept well away from

:23:18. > :23:24.all the handlers earlier in the straight and once he's got down to

:23:24. > :23:30.this point, he's well and truly on his own in complete isolation. Who

:23:30. > :23:34.knows, that may be how he comes home as well.

:23:34. > :23:38.Frankel on his way down to the start and Hayley Turner and Willie

:23:38. > :23:45.Carson are watching him closely. Nothing yet that would disturb you,

:23:45. > :23:48.he looks the calmest of the lot? Hayley? Really chilled out. I saw

:23:48. > :23:54.them walking around the paddock and they were just holding him back and

:23:54. > :23:59.getting him relaxed. For what reason should he not be chilled

:23:59. > :24:04.out? He's never had a hard time on the racecourse? I suppose it's

:24:04. > :24:07.something to look out for as a punter, if he is in the paddock

:24:07. > :24:11.jumping around, sweating and looking agitated you would be

:24:11. > :24:15.concerned but we can reassure everyone that he's not doing that.

:24:15. > :24:19.One of the few horses in my life that I've heard people clap for

:24:19. > :24:23.before a race. It was extraordinary that. Consequently, an awful lot of

:24:23. > :24:26.peel, they didn't necessarily back the horse but they are emotionally

:24:26. > :24:29.backing him, wanting him to win, as they wanted Wales to win the World

:24:29. > :24:34.Cup semi-final this morning. We hope France don't spoil the party

:24:34. > :24:40.again. They could do though because Immortal Verse, their contender, is

:24:40. > :24:43.a very, very fine filly. Henry and Jane there, relaxing I think and

:24:43. > :24:47.enjoying it, because it's such a pleasure to have a horse this good.

:24:47. > :24:53.Immore that will verse, she won the Coronation here at the Royal

:24:53. > :24:58.meeting in June and she also beat Goldikova in August and Gerrard

:24:58. > :25:03.Mosse, the jockey on board, is a big fan of the filly who can be

:25:03. > :25:08.tricky. Yes. My filly, it's something serious, she doesn't race

:25:08. > :25:14.since August, so she get a big break and I don't know how she is.

:25:14. > :25:18.The ground's going to look good today. It's spot on, so we just

:25:18. > :25:26.have to see it to get a clear run and see how good she's got to be

:25:26. > :25:30.today. She's bidding to be the first winner of the French race.

:25:30. > :25:35.Dubai Millennium will be figuring in many people's minds. Frankel

:25:35. > :25:40.reminds me of that, that incredible power in the middle of a race.

:25:40. > :25:45.Immortal Verse is all about the speed of her race? Yes, Immortal

:25:45. > :25:51.Verse, has a tremendous turn of foot, but will she have that after

:25:51. > :25:57.going the pace to follow Frankel?! That is the question. She was able

:25:57. > :26:02.to do it here at Royal Ascot. She came from last to first, turning

:26:02. > :26:06.from home, and really looked like a filly of outstanding ability.

:26:06. > :26:12.Excelebration, a very handsome horse. In an era without Frankel,

:26:12. > :26:16.he would have been the leading miler in Europe. He's a beautiful

:26:16. > :26:21.looking horse. He won on very soft ground last time at Longchamp. He

:26:21. > :26:25.had quite a hard race, so this time of the year, possibly sometimes

:26:25. > :26:29.when you have a hard race at the end of the year, it takes the edge

:26:29. > :26:34.off a horse. Is that right, Hayley? Yes, I think Excelebration and

:26:34. > :26:42.Frankel both started their careers this season on the same day which

:26:42. > :26:46.was April 16th I think at Newbury. Basically Frankel had four runs and

:26:46. > :26:50.Excelebrations had five and probably been overseas a bit more...

:26:50. > :26:57.Here we go, the big, big one for Frankel, the Queen Elizabeth Stakes

:26:57. > :27:03.and here is Jim. They're racing!

:27:03. > :27:11.And Frankel away pretty well and drops in behind them early. Pace-

:27:11. > :27:15.maker twos on, Bullet Train, Dick Turpin in second. Tube Which? Gold

:27:15. > :27:20.in second. Excelebration. Frankel wanting to go. Half a stride, maybe

:27:20. > :27:26.a stride faster he wanted to go. Being held by Tom Queally. Also

:27:26. > :27:35.pulling hard, Poet's Voice and Immortal Verse. Bullet Train out in

:27:35. > :27:40.front. Six lengths clear. They've basically been ignoring him. Dick

:27:40. > :27:45.Turpin. Dubawi Gold. Excelebration. Queally giving Frankel a bit more

:27:45. > :27:49.rein. Now he's starting to move up on the outside. Excelebration going

:27:50. > :27:54.with him. Followed by Poet's Voice. Virtually ignoring the pace-maker

:27:54. > :27:59.and Frankel has strode up on the outside to lead the bunch. Bullet

:27:59. > :28:03.Train well in front. But it's Frankel who's now about six lengths

:28:03. > :28:07.behind his pace-maker. Being tracked now by Poet's Voice and

:28:07. > :28:12.further back, Excelebration. There followed next in the field by

:28:12. > :28:18.Immortal Verse, four lnths to make up on Frankel. -- four lengths.

:28:18. > :28:22.Bullet Train being tackled by Frankel who takes it up clearly.

:28:22. > :28:27.Excelebration. Immortal Verse on the far side. A furlong left. It's

:28:27. > :28:31.Frankel by two lengths. Trying hard, Excelebration, he's gone for the

:28:31. > :28:37.whip, Queally; but kept going, Frankel makes it nine out of nine,

:28:37. > :28:41.exciting, sunt lating and sensational, -- scintillating.

:28:41. > :28:46.Frankel goes on to beat Excelebration. Further back,

:28:46. > :28:52.Immortal Verse, followed by Dubawi Gold and Poet's Voice. Further back,

:28:52. > :28:58.Side Glance and Dick Turpin. He's done it again, he's unbeaten, nine

:28:58. > :29:02.out of nine and 11-4on favourite, Frankel. Ridden by Tom Queally.

:29:02. > :29:08.Health and Safety won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

:29:08. > :29:14.Again in the style of a champion. Here he is. He's got to the Lune,

:29:14. > :29:19.won it by four-and-a-half to five lengths from Excelebration in

:29:19. > :29:25.second. Immortal Verse in third. In fourth is Dubawi Gold, in fifth

:29:25. > :29:30.Dick Turpin, in sixth is Poet's Voice, in seventh is Side Glance.

:29:30. > :29:36.Then in eighth, Bullet Train, the pacemaker.

:29:36. > :29:43.What a sensational performance, again proving himself the best

:29:43. > :29:50.racehorse in the world. Frankel. He's done it easily and thumbs up

:29:50. > :30:00.for a great champion. Sir Henry Cecil, the man who said

:30:00. > :30:10.

:30:10. > :30:15.quite a few times now, I've never wanted them to go faster. They

:30:15. > :30:21.split into two divisions. They virtually ignored Bullet Train, who

:30:21. > :30:31.was sixth lengths clear of the pack. 2.29 of a second outside the track

:30:31. > :30:35.record. That is what we wanted to see, true

:30:35. > :30:41.greatness, confirmed here, on the biggest stage of all, the biggest

:30:41. > :30:44.stage of the season. A huge round of applause in the winners

:30:44. > :30:48.enclosure because Sir Henry Cecil has walked down. Frankel is

:30:48. > :30:53.parading in front of the Grandstand. The clapping is for the man who has

:30:53. > :30:57.Master Minded the career of this freakishly good horse, Frankel. It

:30:57. > :31:01.doesn't matter how he's ridden. He has learned to settle. He settled

:31:01. > :31:05.so well in the early stages that Tom could pick his time and say,

:31:05. > :31:11.right, I'm using Bullet Train as the marker and I will use him as

:31:12. > :31:16.something to aim at, catch him. Look at him there!. The horse never

:31:16. > :31:19.looks under any pressure it's amazing. The only time he looked in

:31:19. > :31:24.trouble was the three furlong marker. Tom Queally started to ask

:31:24. > :31:29.him to quicken. It took him at least half a furlong to three

:31:29. > :31:33.quarters before he got him into Top Gear. Then when he got into Top

:31:33. > :31:38.Gear, off he went. Everybody was right behind him. There was a scrap

:31:38. > :31:44.going on behind him when he went first of all, every jockey wanted

:31:44. > :31:49.to get onto his heel tolz get the draft through. There was no draft,

:31:49. > :31:55.when he got to the two furlong marker. He spread the field, pull

:31:56. > :32:00.add way from them. He stamed -- stamped his authority. The placings

:32:00. > :32:05.behind him were predicted. Excelebration ran a blinding race

:32:05. > :32:13.in second. The three-year-old filly to race so close thoim, was again a

:32:13. > :32:17.massive run. That gives Sir Henry Cecil his seventh win. He is the

:32:17. > :32:21.trainer of the series. There is so much joy here today. When you do

:32:21. > :32:25.expect as much out of a horse as we expected out of Frankel, the

:32:25. > :32:30.dainker is always you're going to be disappointed. We haven't been.

:32:30. > :32:35.That was as impressive as anything he's done all year. It was very

:32:35. > :32:42.impressive. He's beaten Immortal Verse by seven-and-a-half lengths.

:32:42. > :32:47.That is a filly that they thought was exceptional. She actually beat

:32:48. > :32:52.a filly, Goldikova who has won 14 group one races. That puts things

:32:52. > :32:57.into perspective. He has beaten her seven-and-a-half lengths. This

:32:57. > :33:04.horse is the greatest race horse, over a mile, I have ever seen. I

:33:04. > :33:09.think most people in Ascot might agree with me today. I think as

:33:09. > :33:16.pressure rides go, Tom is never going to have to ride under as much

:33:16. > :33:20.pressure as today. That wasn't pressure, pushing a button! He's

:33:20. > :33:25.giving Frankel a huge hug there. I can't believe how much this horse

:33:25. > :33:29.has matured mentally that he seems so relaxed with it all. He loves to

:33:29. > :33:33.race. He's spaced out his races to get the best from him. What a

:33:33. > :33:37.finale to his flat season here in the UK. That is just a stunning

:33:37. > :33:45.performance and one thaw want to watch back again and again and

:33:45. > :33:50.enjoy it. He's only 3-1 to be unbeaten next season. Get on.

:33:50. > :33:54.Sir Henry Cecil probably wonder where on earth he has gone.. He's

:33:54. > :33:59.gone in front of the stands, Claire. I know that. He looks like he might

:33:59. > :34:04.have done a lap of honour. He didn't want to stop. It took a long

:34:04. > :34:10.time to pull the horse up because he was still full of running.

:34:10. > :34:15.Hayley, I think this horse possibly would sustain a mile and a quarter?

:34:15. > :34:20.Yeah, I think he took a spot where he took half a furlong to get wound

:34:20. > :34:25.up. Then he stamped his authority. It was a bit messy to start. Though

:34:25. > :34:28.Bullet Train's gone off quickly and sensibly as a pacemaker. Ian did a

:34:28. > :34:32.fantastic job. Dick Turpin and the rest of the field didn't follow

:34:32. > :34:35.suit. If you take out the front runner they've got quite slow to

:34:35. > :34:39.start. That's when Tom took his initiative, just switched him out

:34:39. > :34:48.and let him get up there. Let's not hand it to Bullet Train whatever we

:34:48. > :34:54.There he is going to the line. Tom Queally gave him two smacks. He

:34:54. > :34:58.really did respond. He went into turbo then. He's gone away to win

:34:58. > :35:08.it by four lengths. It's interesting that he's won nine

:35:08. > :35:08.

:35:08. > :35:13.races by an aggregate of 46 lengths. He really has stamped his authority

:35:13. > :35:18.on his races. He's won by wide margins. That makes him truly

:35:18. > :35:24.exciting to form followers, to those assessers who like to compile

:35:24. > :35:34.the ratings. This will be some cheer.

:35:34. > :35:34.

:35:34. > :36:21.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:36:21. > :36:30.great, something very, very special. Something befitting this Qipco

:36:30. > :36:34.Champions' Day here at Ascot. The owner Prince Khalid Abdullah, Sir

:36:35. > :36:42.Henry Cecil and Tom Queally, Lord GrimThorpe, the racing manager in

:36:43. > :36:52.the Trilby. The four of them there, Jane Cecil, lady Cecil on the right.

:36:52. > :36:56.What an excited, elated bunch they are. This horse has completely

:36:56. > :37:06.dominated the season. He is officially the best race horse in

:37:06. > :37:08.

:37:08. > :37:18.the worldment -- world. There he is. So, let's check the full result

:37:18. > :37:34.

:37:34. > :37:39.John. That's what this game is all about. All this week, leading up to

:37:39. > :37:44.Frankel. Frankel mania, I called it. He's won by four lengths as well.

:37:44. > :37:48.You tipped it up at 10-16789 What a marvellous performance. The next

:37:48. > :37:51.race, what's happened? There's going to be fortunes for So You

:37:51. > :38:01.Think. Claire said early, with all the favourites winning, the odds

:38:01. > :38:03.

:38:03. > :38:08.will tumble for So You Think. It's 7-4 at the minute. It could be less.

:38:08. > :38:13.Here I am with the winning jockey. We can see the joy in your face.

:38:13. > :38:19.Can you put into words that performance? It's as good as ever.

:38:19. > :38:25.He's getting more professional with each run. He's the real deal, not

:38:25. > :38:30.that wasn't before, but he was today. The way the race fell apart,

:38:30. > :38:34.didn't suit you that well, but nothing can stop you. Ian went a

:38:34. > :38:39.good tempo. That was important. He was grown up enough to know there

:38:39. > :38:44.was horses in front of me. I don't have to tear off like mad unless

:38:44. > :38:49.Tom says go. He waited until I said go, it was electric. Just flawless

:38:49. > :38:53.again. Can you explain your feelings for this horse, Tom?

:38:53. > :38:57.a horse in a lifetime for the public, let alone the jockey lucky

:38:57. > :39:02.enough to be on him. What a privilege, you know. It's an honour,

:39:02. > :39:07.a privilege. I could stand here for hours just saying what it means to

:39:07. > :39:12.me. I'm terribly lucky. People talk about pressure, surely

:39:12. > :39:16.there's joy to go with that pressure, isn't there? Yeah, I

:39:16. > :39:21.don't feel the pressure. There is pressure, of course there is,

:39:21. > :39:25.there's hype. I'm the one in the centre of it all. I was lucky

:39:25. > :39:29.enough, the whip debate took a lot of it off me this week. There is

:39:29. > :39:33.the pressure that goes with it, but I would like to think I handle it

:39:33. > :39:41.pretty well. I enjoy. It I get a kick out of it. Last thing, if you

:39:41. > :39:45.could sum up this season in one word, what would it be? Frankel.

:39:45. > :39:49.Sir Henry Cecil has sent Frankel round the paddock for a lap of

:39:49. > :39:53.honour. You have read affection for this horse as well. He's a very,

:39:53. > :39:57.very good horse. He's been lovely and relaxed today. It's been a long

:39:57. > :40:02.year. I'm delighted. I'm looking forward to having the winter over

:40:02. > :40:06.and next year. I'm sure he will get a mile and a quarter easily.

:40:06. > :40:10.looked it today. Just doing enough. Very, very happy. Where did you

:40:10. > :40:14.rate that or how do you rate that in terms of what he's done this

:40:14. > :40:19.year? He just did everything we asked him. We just tried to win the

:40:19. > :40:24.race nicely and that was it. Listen to the roar of this crowd. He has

:40:24. > :40:28.made this Qipco Champions' Day. I saw the sheikh come over to you and

:40:28. > :40:34.probably say thank you. It's lovely, the sponsor and everything. It's

:40:35. > :40:39.really a very nice day. Now I have to settle two more horses. Yes,

:40:39. > :40:43.thank you very much. He has Twice Over and Midday to saddle in the

:40:43. > :40:48.final race and this Champions' Day could get even better for him. As

:40:48. > :40:54.far as the fans are concerned, that really was the icing on the cake,

:40:54. > :40:58.superb from Frankel. Let's look at how he won another

:40:58. > :41:08.race and beat the opposition very, very easily. Here's the times of

:41:08. > :41:12.

:41:12. > :41:16.Frankel in the last half mile of the race. Interesting race because

:41:16. > :41:20.early on, although we had a pacemaker, it looked like the

:41:20. > :41:23.pacemaker was there for insurance rather than to set the gallop. As

:41:23. > :41:27.it happens, he comes from stall number four, he shifts to our left

:41:28. > :41:32.as he comes out of the gates. Probably didn't hamper Frankel that

:41:32. > :41:36.much because Tom Queally would have wanted to get him in behind and

:41:36. > :41:39.settled. They were keen to race together. If he was going to sit

:41:39. > :41:45.behind him, he needed to be not having to make up too much ground.

:41:45. > :41:49.It just worked out that Frankel sat in. He was ignored by the others,

:41:49. > :41:53.Bullet Train. At one stage you saw Tom Queally say OK, let's go, it's

:41:53. > :41:58.time to ride my own race. Yes, Bullet Train out in front at the

:41:58. > :42:03.moment. Dick Turpin on the right. Frankel, as we've seen before, he

:42:03. > :42:13.takes quite a strong hold in his contests. There he is eventual

:42:13. > :42:14.

:42:14. > :42:19.winner. Look at this, he's pulling quite hard. They've not gone very

:42:19. > :42:27.fast. This is cat-and-mouse. Nobody wants to make a move and leave

:42:27. > :42:32.themselves alienated on their own. You can see Dubawi Gold. Once you

:42:32. > :42:35.see this horse opened up, the acceleration is immediate. From

:42:35. > :42:39.everybody pulling, they're all having to work. They've all lost

:42:39. > :42:44.their race already. Let's look at Immortal Verse from the back there,

:42:44. > :42:48.the white and green. Trying to get through. Excelebration in the grey.

:42:48. > :42:52.They're very good horses. They're trying their hardest, but no match

:42:52. > :42:59.for a super horse. Certainly not. I'm just pleased to have been here

:42:59. > :43:03.to see this horse in action. This is one in a million. He sure is. He

:43:03. > :43:07.wins his races very easily indeed. Frankel goes on to win,

:43:07. > :43:10.Excelebration in second, and Dubawi Gold in fourth. There's a

:43:10. > :43:20.possibility they're going to Hong Kong later in the year. There's the

:43:20. > :43:23.

:43:23. > :43:32.average speed: Her Majesty the Queen here at Ascot, specifically

:43:32. > :43:40.to make the presentation for this Queen Elizabeth II stakes. High

:43:40. > :43:45.highness who bred and owns Frankel. That huge roar is for Sir Henry

:43:45. > :43:50.Cecil. Ten times a champion trainer. A few years ago, he thought he was

:43:50. > :43:56.down and out. He was down to about 20 horses in his yard. He has come

:43:56. > :44:01.back. In the way great trainers can. He's a hugely entertaining

:44:01. > :44:08.character as well. As you heard, he can be sharp at times, but he said

:44:08. > :44:10."Some of us are working class you know. Got two horses to saddle." A

:44:10. > :44:14.tremendous performance for him to keep this wonderful horse going,

:44:14. > :44:19.throughout the season unbeaten and to Tom Queally, as Hayley was

:44:19. > :44:23.saying, he will never be under as much pressure again as he has been

:44:23. > :44:30.today and at various stages this season. I think, to be fair to Tom,

:44:30. > :44:36.he's grown from it and now, rather savours the pressure. Oh, yes. He's

:44:36. > :44:41.good class jockey. He has actually with this horse he's grown up with

:44:41. > :44:48.him. Of course, Henry Cecil being the governor has given him the

:44:48. > :44:54.confidence to go out and put the things that helps the horse and he

:44:54. > :45:00.is basically a world-class jockey. Henry Cecil watching the race and

:45:00. > :45:03.you'll see the emotion run through this race as he realises, we're

:45:03. > :45:09.going to see something possibly even more special than he's seen

:45:09. > :45:14.before. The man who owns this horse is with me now. You've owned so

:45:14. > :45:22.many good horses how do you rate Frankel? No, never. He's the best

:45:22. > :45:27.horse I ever own. Many people he is the best horse that they have seen.

:45:27. > :45:32.So, I am glad to have that horse. So exciting for him to come here

:45:32. > :45:38.today and everybody expecting so much and to see a performance like

:45:38. > :45:45.that. I wasn't expect -- expecting that. But he is always like that.

:45:45. > :45:49.I'm just hope that he will do the same thing next year. Willie carson

:45:49. > :45:53.and many others think he will stay a mile and a quarter N year. Just a

:45:53. > :46:00.word on Henry Cecil. He told me that if it wasn't for you, he would

:46:01. > :46:10.have stopped training. Well, that's good of him to say that, but he is

:46:11. > :46:12.

:46:12. > :46:17.the best trainer. He is very good trainer, actually. I mean, when he

:46:17. > :46:21.says something, then I believe him. He's done a wonderful job with this

:46:21. > :46:25.horse. We thank sow much for running him here and making the day.

:46:25. > :46:30.It's been sensational. Thank you very much.

:46:30. > :46:34.I ought to say that his highness has two more shots, the same two

:46:34. > :46:38.horses that Henry is going off to saddle, Twice Over and Midday. I

:46:38. > :46:44.think Midday in particular could have a chance. It could be her day.

:46:44. > :46:48.Of course, we have the Champion Stakes coming next. This Champion

:46:48. > :46:55.Stakes is possibly one of the most competitive ever Champions Stakes

:46:55. > :46:59.we've ever had. Of course, Prince Khalid has two runners. That's

:46:59. > :47:03.Dubai Prince for Godolphin. He's only run three times and is

:47:03. > :47:07.unbeaten. He has to improve to win today. It is possible to do so.

:47:07. > :47:10.Frankie Dettori looking for a winner here on Qipco British

:47:10. > :47:14.Champions' Day. He would dearly love to round off the day with a

:47:14. > :47:18.flying dismount, a man who has brought so much to British racing

:47:18. > :47:21.and well worth catching up with him, as I did last week, to talk to him

:47:21. > :47:31.about how on earth he keeps going and being so good and so

:47:31. > :47:45.

:47:45. > :47:49.Frankie! This is the horse that made history Fujiama Crest and in

:47:49. > :47:53.what 300 years of racing, no-one has done what you did. No-one won

:47:53. > :48:00.seven. One day somebody will. you think? You never know. McCoy

:48:00. > :48:06.might do. My head's cold. I think this is yours. Is it? I'll take

:48:06. > :48:13.that one. You look beautiful. Only because you're here, otherwise

:48:13. > :48:17.I wouldn't get this treatment. love coming here. As your family

:48:17. > :48:22.has expanded, so everything that comes with it, miniature donkeys

:48:22. > :48:26.weren't here last time I came. Have you puppies as well. A pony for

:48:26. > :48:34.every child. Most trainers have these for real in their stables. I

:48:34. > :48:39.had to get mine. All part of the preparations, see. You see to have

:48:39. > :48:43.found a renewed vigour to your riding. Yeah. I'm on stage three of

:48:43. > :48:52.my career. I spend the last 20 years fulfilling my dreams. Now I'm

:48:52. > :48:57.taking time to take a step back and enjoying it.

:48:57. > :49:02.Bo Derek. In typical style, he's not bashful. What do you think

:49:02. > :49:08.makes daddy a good jockey? Not sure. Not sure? He's generally quite

:49:08. > :49:15.happy these days, isn't he? Come and see your dad. Come on. The 500

:49:15. > :49:24.group winners, that's a marker you wanted to hit? Yeah, I actually

:49:24. > :49:28.passed Lester Piggott's record. To do it on Arc day was magic. Lefter

:49:28. > :49:31.always says he thinks you're so great. When it comes from somebody

:49:31. > :49:34.so great to say that, it's a fantastic feeling. If you had been

:49:34. > :49:41.a footballer, for example, I think it's the same as playing for

:49:41. > :49:45.Manchester United pretty much your whole career. The sheikh has put

:49:45. > :49:53.all his trust in me all these years. If it wasn't for him, all the

:49:53. > :49:56.records, numbers, I would not reach these targets. When you first

:49:56. > :50:00.started out, were you trying to impress your father? I still do

:50:00. > :50:04.now! My dad is one of those old fashioned dad that, even when I won

:50:05. > :50:08.the seven he wasn't happy. He said I made a mistake somewhere along

:50:08. > :50:12.the line. It's nice to have a parent like that. At least he

:50:12. > :50:17.always tries to improve me. You better ride well because you're on

:50:17. > :50:25.camera. Yeah, yeah. What are you like with your kids? I'm a big

:50:25. > :50:30.softie to be honest with you. She's the strongest in the house. This

:50:30. > :50:40.must be the funniest thing in the world. I was just thinking that.

:50:40. > :50:45.you take the words out! I'm Frankie Dettori, I'm champion jockey and

:50:45. > :50:51.tonight I'm hosting the most famous show in the world. First it's Gina

:50:51. > :50:54.In terms of you and your role as number one promoter of racing in

:50:54. > :50:58.the UK, do you ever get tired of that and wish someone else would

:50:58. > :51:04.step up? I do it for the sport that I love. I want racing to be popular.

:51:04. > :51:08.I want people to come racing. Ryan Moore is a fantastic jockey. He

:51:08. > :51:13.finds it difficult to do what I do. But he believes the same things

:51:13. > :51:19.that I believe. But he's just a shyer person. Sorry Ryan. In a nice

:51:19. > :51:24.way you know! I'm 40 now. I love to go till 50. But every year goes

:51:24. > :51:27.quicker and every year I know is one less year than I will be a

:51:28. > :51:35.jockey. I am actually try to capture the special moments so they

:51:35. > :51:42.can stay with me forever and really enjoy it. I'm so lucky that I do

:51:42. > :51:47.such a wonderful sport and I get to enjoy it.

:51:47. > :51:51.No jockey has a closer affiliation to Ascot racecourse than Frankie

:51:51. > :51:55.Dettori who is in the paddock ahead of the most valuable race of the

:51:55. > :51:58.day, the Champion Stakes. Frankie is riding Dubai Prince. Hayley

:51:58. > :52:04.Turner is with me. We're looking at the Champion Stakes, the last race

:52:04. > :52:06.of the day, but just tell us about Frankie in the weighing room, the

:52:06. > :52:10.Frankie Dettori that people don't see so often in the moments of

:52:10. > :52:15.victory and in the moments of defeat, what's that like? Frankie's

:52:15. > :52:22.very much the same in the weighing room. He's good fun. He's always,

:52:22. > :52:28.if you're feeling a bit down, he'll cheer you up. He's really good fun.

:52:28. > :52:33.He is a laugh. He is so enthusiastic on telly, he's like

:52:33. > :52:37.that as a person. Very social. a very determined man. I'm sure you

:52:37. > :52:41.know, especially when race riding. He determined to land the Champions

:52:41. > :52:46.Stakes. He's had big chances in this race. He hasn't managed it yet.

:52:46. > :52:50.What about his ride, Dubai Prince in this race, you have a fancy for

:52:50. > :52:54.him. It's the most competitive race I've ever seen. Picking a winner is

:52:54. > :52:56.really difficult. You should do what my sister does and go for the

:52:56. > :53:04.name she likes or the colours. Midday because it's pink colours

:53:04. > :53:09.and she likes the name. He's coming around behind us. I have my eye on

:53:09. > :53:14.him. The form of his last race worked out really well. The horse

:53:14. > :53:17.he beat comfortably, bolted at York by nine lengths the next Time Out.

:53:17. > :53:21.He's just, he's not done anything wrong. He's the most likely raced -

:53:21. > :53:28.- lightly raced horse in the field. I think he'll be the most

:53:28. > :53:34.progressive out of them. Heem' need a lot of luck as well.

:53:34. > :53:44.considerably more relaxed Tom Queally now. Both of them against

:53:44. > :53:52.

:53:52. > :53:56.each other with genuine contenders, Now Ed Dunlop talking through with

:53:57. > :54:01.Olivier Perrier. She hasn't got many miles on the clock this season.

:54:01. > :54:05.Michael Bell with Wigmore Hall and good form. William Haggas and Green

:54:05. > :54:10.Destiny is their runner in this race. He has to step up a bit on

:54:10. > :54:14.what he's done before. It's not entirely out of range. Now, here is

:54:14. > :54:18.the Ballydoyle camp here. So You Think is their big hope today.

:54:18. > :54:28.They've had a winner in the long distance race with Fame And Glory.

:54:28. > :54:29.

:54:29. > :54:32.Ryan Moore, Aden O'Brien has done all the talking he wants to do. The

:54:32. > :54:38.colours of purple that So You Think carries. Ryan Moore all the rumours

:54:38. > :54:44.that he's about join Aiden O'Brien. We don't know whether that's true

:54:44. > :54:50.or not yet. He could go a long way towards making sure it happens with

:54:50. > :54:55.a good, confident ride here. Let's speak to Derek. I'm sorry, grab you

:54:55. > :54:59.quickly, So You Think. This is huge for him isn't it? Huge day. It's

:54:59. > :55:04.just the final race of the season for him, well maybe. We're just

:55:04. > :55:11.hoping he's going to put on a great display. It should be fine for him

:55:11. > :55:14.to run so quick after the Arc. That's what he's done down under.

:55:14. > :55:21.Aden is happy with him. Do you think we'll see Ryan Moore riding

:55:21. > :55:25.more in your colours next year? He's ridden a lot in our colours

:55:26. > :55:30.already,. He's retained by Michael, until that ends, then he rides for

:55:30. > :55:35.him and us when he's available. Thank sow much and good luck with

:55:35. > :55:39.So You Think. That's Derek Smith. Let's have

:55:39. > :55:44.aanother look at them. Ryan Moore and Aden O'Brien here

:55:44. > :55:49.with So You Think. It's been one of the subjects that's been much

:55:49. > :55:53.spoken about this week. We're going to look at a few of them. So You

:55:53. > :55:57.Think is coming around behind us. He only ran two weeks ago in the

:55:57. > :56:02.Arc. People have pointsed out concern that's might be a bit quick

:56:02. > :56:05.for him. First impression he looks magnificent. He looks really well.

:56:05. > :56:10.It's difficult to know if your horse has gone over the top at home.

:56:10. > :56:13.Sometimes when horses are over the top, they work even better at home.

:56:13. > :56:23.You just don't know until they're on course. It's the same with Snow

:56:23. > :56:24.

:56:24. > :56:30.Fairy, ran the same day. The Ar Arc is a big race. Here is Snow Fairy.

:56:30. > :56:35.Her skin looks really well. It's like looking like a human being.

:56:35. > :56:39.Her skin looks really well. He's healthy and my friend Jane, who was

:56:39. > :56:45.with me today, she works with the yard and they're raving about her

:56:45. > :56:51.at home. Tom Queally, Sir Henry Cecil, the stars of the day so far.

:56:51. > :56:56.About to put Twice Over, Midday sorry. One thing that horse is

:56:56. > :57:00.going to get a confident ride. explain that, how come a jockey

:57:00. > :57:05.suddenly gets confidence like that? It's amazing. You get a buzz and

:57:05. > :57:09.you think you can do no wrong. It's confidence, riding a horse makes a

:57:09. > :57:15.huge difference. After I had a couple of big wins, I was riding

:57:15. > :57:19.like a demon. Your pick of the paddock? Probably So You Think.

:57:19. > :57:28.Looking amazing. That would be my pick. What about you? We both agree

:57:28. > :57:33.on that. The parade for this Qipco Champion Stakes is led by the

:57:33. > :57:38.gelding, Cissus Des Aigles, who was prevented running in the arc

:57:38. > :57:44.because he's a gelding. He's a very consistent horse. He has a chance.

:57:44. > :57:52.Number two is Green Destiny. Kieron Fallon taking the ride for William

:57:52. > :57:56.Haggas. Winner of the eboar handicap in July. That looks like

:57:56. > :58:00.Nathaniel, out of order. That's the King George winner. The three-year-

:58:00. > :58:05.old colt who is a bit of a superstar. Dropping back it a mile

:58:05. > :58:11.and a quarter here. William Buick knows how to ride with confidence,

:58:11. > :58:16.on board him. There's a big gap now, huge crowd here. Just lapping up

:58:16. > :58:26.the sunshine. Everyone on such a high after Frankel. Now Sri Putra,

:58:26. > :58:27.

:58:27. > :58:32.trained by Roger Varian. Neil Callan on board him. He's 100-1.

:58:32. > :58:39.Then the first of Sir Henry Cecil's two runners. This is Twice Over.

:58:39. > :58:43.He's won four group ones, including this race, for the last two years.

:58:43. > :58:48.Tom Queally confirmed as the leading jockey for this series.

:58:48. > :58:54.Wigmore Hall next with Jamie Spencer on board. Jamie Bell trains

:58:55. > :58:57.this. We have Snow Fairy. She's super

:58:57. > :59:01.consistent. She's been very close behind So You Think in the Irish

:59:01. > :59:08.champion. Then in front of So You Think when she was third in the Arc

:59:08. > :59:18.last Time Out. She's a most admirable mare. Then we have

:59:18. > :59:21.Casamento. Tricky ride. Then Dubai Prince, Frankie Dettori, unbeaten

:59:21. > :59:26.so far in just three starts. He had problems at the beginning of this

:59:26. > :59:32.year. He picked up a hair line fracture in his pelvis. Plans to

:59:32. > :59:38.run him in the 2,000 guineas had to be put on hold. He has had just one

:59:38. > :59:42.Rhine and that was a month ago. Then Midday. Again like the Arc was

:59:43. > :59:45.dominated by fillies. We could have one, two here for the fillies.

:59:45. > :59:50.Midday has a great chance particularly on this good ground.

:59:50. > :59:53.She can quicken up. She hasn't finished out of the first three

:59:53. > :59:58.since her two-year-old days. She's so consistent. Then Ransom Note,

:59:58. > :00:04.running for Charlie Hills who has taken over from his father Barry

:00:04. > :00:07.this year and his first Champions' Day runner. His father had a

:00:07. > :00:14.fantastic record in this race when it was at Newmarket. He won it

:00:14. > :00:18.three times. We should find So You Think, the very last one to come

:00:18. > :00:22.out. They have made sure that nothing's going to bother this

:00:22. > :00:26.horse, though. They're making sure he's wrapped in cotton wool or

:00:26. > :00:30.given space behind the rest of the field. He is the 7-4 favourite,

:00:30. > :00:40.just slightly on his toes. Nothing to worry about. He is incredibly

:00:40. > :00:54.

:00:54. > :00:58.versatile. He's won three group a mile and a half. He's also ran in

:00:58. > :01:03.the Melbourne Cup in Australia and won a host of good races over there.

:01:03. > :01:13.I would love to know how much he weighs because he's an immense

:01:13. > :01:15.

:01:15. > :01:20.horse to look at. He's quite a chunky horse. 450kilos,

:01:20. > :01:24.something like that. He's a biggish, strong horse. I love how hands on

:01:24. > :01:29.Aidan O'Brien is, fantastic to see him on the track leading him out,

:01:29. > :01:34.keeping him relaxed. Obviously he knows the horse very well.

:01:34. > :01:38.obviously gets a little bit worked up. They are making sure he doesn't

:01:39. > :01:47.parade that far in front of the grandstand, then turn round and

:01:47. > :01:57.heads down. Are you trying to get him into trouble? No, just saying.

:01:57. > :02:09.

:02:09. > :02:15.Here is John and Gary. would stop the contest. All the

:02:15. > :02:19.money's for So You Think. Apollo went 2-1, they got knocked out. 7-4

:02:20. > :02:24.Chronicle. All the money's for one horse, So You Think. What happen if

:02:24. > :02:29.it wins? I don't know what the bookrys are going to do, I don't.

:02:29. > :02:35.They are having a terrible day. No good holidays for the bookies for

:02:35. > :02:42.the winter, John. So You Think, bred in New Zealand,

:02:42. > :02:47.an Australia champion. He's had six runs in Europe for four wins. The

:02:47. > :02:51.second here at Royal Ascot and also a fourth in the Arc and he backs up

:02:51. > :02:57.13 days after that fourth at Longchamp.

:02:57. > :03:01.There he is live and we seem almost at the start now. Ryan Moore,

:03:01. > :03:11.conspicuous in that he took him away from others, kept him well

:03:11. > :03:24.

:03:24. > :03:29.Sarafina and Goldikova over a mile and one and just below group one

:03:29. > :03:39.level he finishes second or wins. Sometimes he knocks on the door.

:03:39. > :03:45.

:03:45. > :03:52.Close but no cigar. Indeed. Christophe Soumillon, how do you

:03:52. > :03:57.find him? He's really helpful and flash. If you needed any advice,

:03:57. > :04:03.he's more than happy to help. in the past pointed at his bottom

:04:03. > :04:13.as if to say quis my, you know. William Bewick, what a season he's

:04:13. > :04:31.

:04:31. > :04:35.beautifully if Tom Queally was to win this as well as the QEII. This

:04:35. > :04:38.horse? I'm familiar with him, I rode him and I will put my hands up

:04:38. > :04:42.and say I probably should have been second on him, he was unlucky

:04:42. > :04:49.turning in, but he's a fantastic horse, but he seems to like his

:04:49. > :04:58.road trips, likes going somewhere on a plane or a boat. So did they

:04:58. > :05:02.take him round the M25 twice so he felt like he had a trip? Yeah! He's

:05:03. > :05:08.very popular and despite us saying he's better abroad, he's ran a good

:05:08. > :05:14.race at Ascot before. I think 33-1 is a massive price for him,

:05:14. > :05:18.actually. How influential is the draw going to be? John Gosden said

:05:18. > :05:24.he didn't want Nathaniel to be drawn wide and he is. The thing

:05:24. > :05:29.ability him being drawn wide today is, it's OK because all the horses

:05:29. > :05:32.that are drawn low are holed up horses, so he'll get a free run to

:05:32. > :05:37.get his position wherever he wants. I know that the mile and a quarter

:05:37. > :05:42.is a bad place to be drawn wide because you come to a turn pretty

:05:42. > :05:47.soon, but I think because of the way the draw has happened, he will

:05:47. > :05:52.be automobile to do whatever he wants on him. There's not too many

:05:52. > :05:57.to go on him. -- he will be able to do whatever he wants.

:05:57. > :06:01.It's been a fabulous afternoon here so far. Can it get even better?

:06:01. > :06:08.Here is Jim McGrath. 1.3 million in prize money. Ryan

:06:08. > :06:15.Moore aboard the favourite, So You Think. That's it, they're ready for

:06:15. > :06:20.the Qipco champion Stakes. They are racing. So You Think began

:06:20. > :06:26.brilliant, as did Nathaniel. Vying for the lead with Ransom Note.

:06:26. > :06:33.Cirrus Des Aigles. Dubai Prince trapped a little wide. A short run

:06:33. > :06:40.to the first corner and Ransom Note on the inside. Two lengths to So

:06:40. > :06:50.You Think. A beautiful position there. Fol Leed by Cirrus Des

:06:50. > :06:51.

:06:51. > :06:56.Aigles. A length and a half to Snow Fairy back in the field. Wigmore

:06:56. > :07:01.Hall. Two lengths to Green Destiny. Settling down and the leader is on

:07:01. > :07:11.the inside, Ransom Note. Being pressured by Nathaniel. Two lengths

:07:11. > :07:11.

:07:11. > :07:15.to So You Think. Two lengths Sri Putra.

:07:15. > :07:18.All the time they are climbing uphill towards the half mile. So

:07:18. > :07:23.You Think is travelling beautifully for Ryan Moore. As they race up

:07:23. > :07:28.with less than a half mile to go, Ransom Note, the leader from

:07:28. > :07:34.Nathaniel and So You Think. Snow Fairy behind them, followed by

:07:34. > :07:40.Twice Over. Going forward is Dubai Prince. Sri Putra. Wigmore Hall in

:07:40. > :07:44.company with Midday who's giving them a long stand. Into the home

:07:44. > :07:48.straight now. In the Champion Stakes, kicking for him, it's

:07:48. > :07:52.Nathaniel. Two lengths in fronts. Here is the Aussie champ on the

:07:52. > :07:55.outside, So You Think, striding up from Cirrus Des Aigles. Snow Fairy

:07:55. > :08:01.looking for a way through. A furlong left in the champions

:08:01. > :08:05.stakes and So You Think takes it up. Cirrus Des Aigles is the challenger

:08:05. > :08:09.for France. So You Think and Cirrus Des Aigles. Snow Fairy in the clear.

:08:09. > :08:13.It's stride for stride, Cirrus Des Aigles just getting on top. Cirrus

:08:13. > :08:21.Des Aigles is going to win the champions stakes. In second is So

:08:21. > :08:28.You Think, third Snow Fairy, fol Leed by Nathaniel and further back

:08:28. > :08:31.Midday -- followed. Casamento one of the last Twice Over in company

:08:31. > :08:38.with Green Destiny. Somewhere behind them tailed off is Dubai

:08:38. > :08:48.Prince. The French have won the Qipco champions stakes, the 12-1

:08:48. > :08:57.

:08:57. > :09:01.winner ridden by Christophe Soumillon. First prize money of

:09:01. > :09:06.700,000. One of the great riders in Europe, he's won the big one on

:09:06. > :09:08.Cirrus Des Aigles, wearing down, so you would think, in the dying

:09:08. > :09:13.strides, just when Ryan Moore thought he was home, this horse got

:09:13. > :09:19.on top and won it by a half length. Cirrus Des Aigles beat So You Think.

:09:19. > :09:26.In third place, Snow Fairy, another great run. Back in fourth is mid

:09:27. > :09:36.daifplt in fifth, Nathaniel. In sixth is Green Destiny. -- Midday.

:09:36. > :09:44.Sri Putra. Wigmore Hall and one on the far side, just can't quite pick

:09:45. > :09:51.it up. Just behind them though, Twice Over. Then a gap to Casamento.

:09:51. > :09:54.Dubai Prince was a long way behind them. There's the winner though.

:09:54. > :09:59.Cirrus Des Aigles. The winner trainer is with me now. The scenes

:09:59. > :10:04.here in the winners' enclosure are fantastic. What does it mean to

:10:04. > :10:09.you? It means a lot. I always thought this horse was a very good

:10:09. > :10:18.horse, the best in the field and I'm very happy for the owner, for

:10:18. > :10:24.all the team and especially for my friend. Could you describe your

:10:24. > :10:30.emotions through the last furlong? I talked to my neighbour, he

:10:30. > :10:34.guessed he's going to do it and he just did it, so we are very like in

:10:34. > :10:38.paradise. You look like you need some gas and

:10:38. > :10:46.you can't breathe? It's the first time for a group one and...

:10:46. > :10:51.first one in England. Thank you to English racing to accept geldings.

:10:51. > :10:57.Indeed. Fantastic. Many congratulations. Well done. For the

:10:58. > :11:01.second time today, the French enjoy a narrow success. They win our

:11:01. > :11:10.finale, the Qipco Championship Stakes with Cirrus Des Aigles, his

:11:10. > :11:18.first win at group one level. He's been consistent all season long.

:11:18. > :11:22.The owner said Cirrus was her friend. Ian Mongan tried to keep

:11:22. > :11:26.the horse in but couldn't make it happen. So You Think, he finds

:11:26. > :11:30.plenty, but Cirrus Des Aigles finds just a little more. Snow Fairy a

:11:30. > :11:38.little trapped behind them. Not sure whether it would have made any

:11:38. > :11:46.difference but she was blocked when Peslier was coming up. It's a

:11:46. > :11:54.course record and what a way to round off the day. Very competitive

:11:54. > :11:58.indeed. This horse is just a winner through merit. So You Think, the

:11:58. > :12:03.Aussie champion, won on merit today. I thought the race was run truly,

:12:03. > :12:07.there's no hard luck stories, Snow Fairy ran a great race and So You

:12:07. > :12:14.Think, similar so what they were two weeks ago, it's a great thing

:12:14. > :12:19.here for the champions Stakes. It's been a great Champions' Day. We've

:12:19. > :12:25.just seen another champion, Cirrus Des Aigles, winning the champions

:12:25. > :12:28.stakes. Absolutely fantastic. And Soumillon greeting the crowd.

:12:28. > :12:34.Unfortunate maybe for some people that the French ended up winning

:12:34. > :12:40.the big one. But for the good of the day it's fantastic. A European

:12:40. > :12:43.international day 12-1 by the way, just confirming. Having the finale,

:12:43. > :12:49.we have the best British racing, especially in the summer, starting

:12:49. > :12:54.with Ascot and we need a finale for the best races and this is it.

:12:54. > :12:59.That's why we need the French involved. We've got the Arc, Hong

:12:59. > :13:03.Kong, the Breeder's Cup. We've had to muscle in a little bit but

:13:04. > :13:10.rightly so. Given this was the first ever, Willie, how good was

:13:10. > :13:15.today? Fantastic. The best horse you will ever see in Frankel. We've

:13:15. > :13:22.had fantastic racing. The punters I think have been on top of the

:13:22. > :13:26.bookmakers, except in the last race, and now we think that the last race

:13:26. > :13:30.we've just seen that Richard Hannon's won the Championship with

:13:31. > :13:35.prize money. In terms of the Qipco trainers Championship, that's been

:13:35. > :13:40.won by Sir Henry Cecil and the leading jockey for that Champions'

:13:40. > :13:43.Series is confirmed as Tom Queally. It's been a great innovation, it's

:13:44. > :13:49.brought so much I think to flat racing, to the season, it gives us

:13:49. > :13:53.a great finale and what a way to go out. With thanks to all the BBC

:13:53. > :13:58.racing team, in particular the editor, it's his last programme,

:13:58. > :14:01.what a way to sign off, to Hayley, Willie Rishi and the team in the

:14:01. > :14:05.betting ring as well. Most people would have watched today and if

:14:05. > :14:09.that was the first time ever watched racing, you would think,

:14:09. > :14:13.wow, is it that good and yes it is. I hope you recorded it. Frankel

:14:13. > :14:17.will be in training this year and maybe he'll be back to defend his

:14:17. > :14:27.crown next year and possibly even stepping up to the Champion Stakes.

:14:27. > :14:39.
