:00:41. > :00:44.Qipco British Champions day, a fabulous day of racing. It's about

:00:44. > :00:49.more than that. The reason thousands have poured through the

:00:49. > :00:53.gates, the reason you are tuned in today is because this is the climax,

:00:53. > :01:01.not just of one horse race's career but also the breeding of horse

:01:01. > :01:06.races. Frankel is arguably the best we've ever seen, unbeaten in 13

:01:06. > :01:10.starts. The good news is that the course is dry and clear. He

:01:10. > :01:17.definitely runs in the Champion Stakes which will be our final race

:01:17. > :01:21.here on BBC One. The Sir Henry Cecil trained cult

:01:21. > :01:26.Frankel has been named horse of the year. One of the best horses you've

:01:26. > :01:30.ever seen. The best in a lifetime. This is the greatest racehorse I've

:01:30. > :01:35.ever seen. Frankel is certainly box office. The best horse in world,

:01:35. > :01:40.perhaps the greatest racehorse we have ever seen. We have the best

:01:40. > :01:46.racehorse in the world on official ratingsment The highest rated horse

:01:46. > :01:51.in the world. It's the big, big one for Frankel. They are racing. He

:01:51. > :02:01.begins to stretch out. Gets an immediate response. Acceleration.

:02:01. > :02:04.

:02:04. > :02:08.In front by ten lengths. He dismisses his rivals. The brilliant

:02:09. > :02:13.unbeaten Frankel. The sensational. You will never see another like him.

:02:13. > :02:17.And this is the coolest man on the course, Tom Queally. He'll take the

:02:17. > :02:21.mount for the 14th time and he'll be in charge of guiding Frankel

:02:21. > :02:25.over a mile and a quarter of the Champion Stakes. Richard Hughes has

:02:25. > :02:31.had the year of his life, will be crowned champion jockey for the

:02:31. > :02:40.first time in his career and won seven winners at Windsor last

:02:40. > :02:45.Monday. Peslier is on board his horse today. William Buick is here

:02:45. > :02:50.too. Sovereign Debt, it's not a big day unless Frankie is here. He

:02:50. > :02:55.teams up again with Colour Vision, the horse he won the Gold Cup on.

:02:55. > :03:01.Johnny Murtagh has a book of good rides as well, including Dancing

:03:01. > :03:04.Rain. These are live shots from our helicopter as it makes its way here

:03:05. > :03:09.towards Ascot. That magnificent grandstand. It looks superb! Here

:03:09. > :03:13.it is, the crowds are enormous today. It's been sold out for a

:03:13. > :03:18.couple of weeks and they have come because it's champions day, but

:03:18. > :03:22.more than anything, they have come because of Frankel. So it's a huge

:03:22. > :03:28.relief that the rain finally eased off. Any fears there might have

:03:28. > :03:34.been in the Henry Cecil camp were allayed. This is why so many of the

:03:35. > :03:39.youngsters are here, waving their Go Frankel little whatever they are

:03:39. > :03:42.called? Pallets. This is why I have to be with you, you give me the

:03:42. > :03:47.words that I miss sometimes. Good afternoon, all. Good afternoon.

:03:47. > :03:53.What a day. Exciting? Great day in prospect. Champions galore we have

:03:53. > :03:57.here today. Of course, we are going to have the Grand Final of the

:03:57. > :04:01.great Frankel. Here is the question. Is it the Grand Final of Frankel?

:04:01. > :04:07.Is this definitely his last race? Will he be retired after today or

:04:07. > :04:10.not? That's a very good question, Clare. I don't think the people who

:04:11. > :04:16.train him, own him know the answer to that. I think they are going to

:04:16. > :04:20.wait to see what happens today and I think we might get a very good

:04:20. > :04:28.announcement that this horse might be staying in training. Wow. That

:04:28. > :04:37.would be the best news of all actually. The The thing is, Henry

:04:37. > :04:40.Cecil, not the best feeling guy in the world, he's not well, it will

:04:40. > :04:44.help him. He'll never get a horse as good as this again to come to

:04:44. > :04:51.the races and see a horse like this run, so why retire him, you know.

:04:51. > :04:55.When he gets retired, we know he's going to be money-making machine.

:04:55. > :05:02.People in racing don't just have horses to make money, you know,

:05:02. > :05:07.they have to enjoy them. The owner believes the public own this horse

:05:07. > :05:15.now. He believes that. Let's have a word with Teddy who's with Rishi

:05:15. > :05:19.now. He looks after if racing interests of the owner of Frankel.

:05:19. > :05:23.Remarkably calm on a day when a lot of people are tense and nervous

:05:23. > :05:28.about the appearance of Frankel. You appear to be in charge of your

:05:28. > :05:31.emotions? I try to be. It's going to be a great day and we are really

:05:31. > :05:36.looking forward to it. How much has the rain, the changing ground, the

:05:36. > :05:39.soft ground here, been a concern for you in the build-up to this

:05:40. > :05:44.meeting? When I was driving down last night and everyone was ringing

:05:44. > :05:48.me saying the rain's coming and it was ghastly, I was getting a little

:05:48. > :05:53.depressed. I walked the course this morning and it's certainly softer

:05:53. > :05:57.in the ten to eight furlong areas, Swindley Bottom, and there are some

:05:57. > :06:01.softer patches there, definitely. As you come round the straight,

:06:01. > :06:03.it's good really. It's certainly soft ground, but it's certainly

:06:03. > :06:07.within Frankel's capabilities I think.

:06:07. > :06:11.In terms of its capabilities and his appreciation of soft ground,

:06:11. > :06:18.there's a School of Thought that he may find or be better than the

:06:18. > :06:24.other horses on soft ground anyway because he's down one on soft

:06:24. > :06:28.ground. There's indications that he won't be inconvenienced by it?

:06:28. > :06:33.did well at Newmarket on soft. Shane who rides him all the time

:06:33. > :06:37.said he handled it as well as anything and was seeming to be very

:06:37. > :06:41.pleased with him. We've got to be honeful. Can you believe the

:06:41. > :06:46.interest in here today on Frankel - - hopeful. Everyone's here to see

:06:46. > :06:50.him? People are walking around with bill boards and little souvenirs

:06:50. > :06:57.supporting him today. Must be extremely proud of what you are

:06:57. > :07:00.seeing? I think the job Henry's done, prince Khalid for him, it's

:07:00. > :07:06.the third generation home-bred, it's a huge thing to come here with

:07:06. > :07:09.a horse today like this, and it's great that everyone's turned up,

:07:09. > :07:16.enjoyed him and appreciated him. Wish you all the luck today. Stay

:07:16. > :07:19.calm. Thank you. Need it. Lord Grimthorpe made reference to

:07:19. > :07:24.Swindley Bottom. There it is there. The lowest part of the racecourse

:07:24. > :07:28.that,'s why it's always the slowest. You can see from the top of your

:07:28. > :07:33.screen that, is downhill until the turn. That turn is the lowest part

:07:33. > :07:43.of the racecourse and always the softest part of the track. We get a

:07:43. > :07:53.good feel for the condition of the track. We have the first five races

:07:53. > :08:11.

:08:11. > :08:16.makes it so exciting is that the horses have been running against

:08:16. > :08:20.each other all season because the Champions' Series creates a series

:08:20. > :08:30.of races over different distances. The first one we are going to see

:08:30. > :08:49.

:08:49. > :08:52.sprinters, the stayers, the middle distance horses and some really

:08:52. > :08:57.keen competition for you right throughout the day. We start with

:08:57. > :09:02.the stayers. Let's check the runners and riders in the first

:09:02. > :09:12.race today. This is the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup

:09:12. > :09:36.

:09:36. > :09:40.can see people milling around for the first race. Frankel-mania has

:09:40. > :09:45.taken over. If you want to back the great horse, he's a general 1-4

:09:45. > :09:48.shot. That means if you put 4 on, you will win a pound. A fabulous

:09:48. > :09:58.supporting cast. This Long Distance Cup that opens up today is brill

:09:58. > :10:18.

:10:18. > :10:23.yapt. This is how they bet: -- Opinion Poll. Barzalona, not always

:10:23. > :10:28.the easiest of rides here, but he's trying to gets him settled down

:10:28. > :10:36.here. The crowd get a chance to have a good look at him. Oh, hello,

:10:36. > :10:41.just dropping his rein there. ain't running away with him. Look

:10:41. > :10:45.at the fantastic balance of the jockey. His body's hardly moved. He

:10:45. > :10:51.didn't bump the saddle, his backside didn't hit on the saddle.

:10:51. > :10:56.Lovely balance. That is why jockeys are so good, because they've got

:10:56. > :11:01.terrific balance. Dan with his feet firmly on the ground, or indeed in

:11:01. > :11:06.it, Mick Fitzgerald is at Swinley Bottom so we can have a look and

:11:06. > :11:10.see how good the ground is. The ground officially is soft,

:11:10. > :11:15.heavy in places on the round course and soft on the straight course. We

:11:15. > :11:19.are here, the softest part. You can just see, if I dig my heel in, it

:11:19. > :11:22.goes in quite easily. It's making a decent print. The big problem you

:11:22. > :11:28.have for Frankel is, they've got to have two races over this track

:11:28. > :11:33.before he runs on it and it might get a bit poached but it's not

:11:33. > :11:37.desperate ground. The heavy patches are few and far between.

:11:37. > :11:41.This could be the most progressive horse in the field, the youngest

:11:41. > :11:51.one certainly. This is Aiken and he's four years old. This is his

:11:51. > :11:52.

:11:52. > :11:59.first time over two miles. Yes, he likes a cut in the ground. It will

:11:59. > :12:03.be a test of stamina, but he's a progressive cult. He's going to

:12:03. > :12:08.like the conditions. Jimmy Fortune who rode him before has said that

:12:08. > :12:12.he'll get the two mile, so they are not worried about the distance.

:12:12. > :12:16.important day for John Gosden, the first of his runners today and he

:12:16. > :12:21.could seal the Championship? 500,000 in front of Aidan O'Brien,

:12:21. > :12:27.so if he has a very good day today, has a couple of winners, that would

:12:27. > :12:31.seal the trainers' Championship up here today.

:12:31. > :12:36.You can see Colour Vision there with Sovereign Debt. Won the Gold

:12:36. > :12:41.Cup. Wasn't it a great race as well? It was, and most of the

:12:41. > :12:48.horses that run here today they ran in the Gold Cup but the gold cup

:12:48. > :12:52.was running a -- run in a different time of the year. Most horses here

:12:52. > :12:55.today would prefer faster ground, but there are a couple who like it

:12:55. > :13:01.soft. We can have a look at the Gold Cup because it's absolutely

:13:01. > :13:07.key. Four of the runners involved in that. Opinion Poll finishes

:13:07. > :13:12.second. Fame And Glory desperately disappointing and Saddler's Rock in

:13:12. > :13:16.the race again today. All horses prefer the faster ground. The horse

:13:16. > :13:20.that finishes second here in the white cap, with Barzalona on board,

:13:20. > :13:27.now he would be the horse I would think will change positions with

:13:27. > :13:32.the grey horse that Frankie is on, Opinion Poll. Which is probably why

:13:32. > :13:36.he's favourite today? Yes, he's the one that people know will handle

:13:36. > :13:41.the conditions much better. You heard Mick saying the ground is

:13:41. > :13:49.heavy in places, but the ground is soft. The Gold Cup was run on

:13:49. > :13:55.really fast ground. Let's remember how God Fame And Glory is. In the

:13:55. > :13:59.Derby. He finished second last time. This season's not gone to plan for

:13:59. > :14:03.him. What do you think's gone wrong? They brought him up to be

:14:03. > :14:07.the main staying horse, but he's failed on a couple of occasions. On

:14:07. > :14:11.those occasions, the ground was on the soft side, so he's got the same

:14:11. > :14:16.conditions today that when he runs badly. So you would have to, you

:14:16. > :14:21.know, say that he's got it all to do today to win this race in these

:14:22. > :14:26.conditions. But, we know he has got the ability to do so. Let us have a

:14:26. > :14:36.look and see what price Fame And Glory is with John.

:14:36. > :14:54.

:14:54. > :15:03.the others running. This is Ile De This horse did the Chester Cup and

:15:03. > :15:13.the number land Plate. -- the Northumberland Plate. He went to

:15:13. > :15:19.the sales and was unsold. Oh, hello, that's Rite of Passage he is trying

:15:19. > :15:22.to go into the stalls and he is not liking it. This fella has been

:15:22. > :15:27.running the National Hunt, so hasn't had to go into the stalls

:15:27. > :15:33.for many a time. A. You wouldn't expect an 8-year-old to be saying,

:15:33. > :15:38."I don't want to go into these stalls." Rite of Passage is a Gold

:15:38. > :15:44.Cup winner, a fair old time ago, in 2010. Fame And Glory is a Gold Cup

:15:44. > :15:48.winner. Colour Vision, a Gold Cup winner, and then the unproven, the

:15:48. > :15:52.potential of Aiken. And Saddler's Rock. Saddler's Rock was favourite

:15:52. > :16:00.for the Gold Cup. He doesn't like soft ground. He's a firm ground

:16:00. > :16:06.horse as well. He ended up winning the Goodwood Cup. I believe he also

:16:06. > :16:10.ran at Doncaster. He hasn't had the conditions that he would like. He's

:16:10. > :16:17.a horse that likes top of the ground. This is a good price and

:16:17. > :16:21.everybody has come to be a champion. It doesn't matter what the

:16:21. > :16:26.conditions are. They are still running even though the conditions

:16:26. > :16:30.don't suit them. Your fancy is? going Forpadydeplasterer Opinion,

:16:30. > :16:40.but I'm frightened about Aiken, because he is a horse that's on the

:16:40. > :16:47.

:16:47. > :16:50.up. William Buick, a busy day ahead. Four rides. He rides Nathaniel in

:16:50. > :16:53.the Champion Stakes, and they're off for this QIPCO British

:16:53. > :16:58.Champions Long Distance Cup. It is over two miles. In the early stages

:16:58. > :17:03.on the inside one of the first away is Fame And Glory. Out there too is

:17:03. > :17:07.Ile De Re on the outside. Just behind them the grey Electrolyser.

:17:07. > :17:11.Dropping in behind them is Colour Vision. Two or three away is Aiken

:17:11. > :17:18.in the early stages. Saddler's Rock takes up fifth on the inside,

:17:18. > :17:22.followed by the white cap of Opinion and back towards the rear

:17:22. > :17:27.Rite of Passage, and two lengths Askar Tau. Just under a circuit to

:17:27. > :17:30.go. The leader on settling down is Ile De Re, the grey by a length-

:17:30. > :17:34.and-a-half. On the outside is Fame And Glory. Last year's winner in

:17:34. > :17:38.second. In third Electrolyser, who is racing on the outside of Colour

:17:38. > :17:42.Vision in the early stages. Two lengths further back is Aiken, who

:17:42. > :17:46.is on the outside of Saddler's Rock. They swing down towards the mile-

:17:46. > :17:50.and-a-half gate. Well back is Opinion with a white cap, followed

:17:50. > :17:54.by Rite of Passage. And two oar three away Askar Tau. The pace is

:17:54. > :17:58.pricked in these conditions. It is Ile De Re, the grey, out in front.

:17:58. > :18:02.The Chester Cup winner and Northumberland Plate winner leads

:18:02. > :18:08.by a length to Fame And Glory. In behind them is Colour Vision, the

:18:08. > :18:12.Gold Cup winner of this year, tucked away on the inside of

:18:12. > :18:16.Electrolyser. Two lengths back Aiken is travelling on the outside

:18:16. > :18:20.of Saddler's Rock. All the time they are running downhill towards

:18:20. > :18:25.Swinley Bottom. They are followed by Opinion. In the yellow cap Rite

:18:25. > :18:30.of Passage on the inside of Askar Tau. Still heading downhill and

:18:30. > :18:33.passing the mile. It is Ile De Re in this QIPCO British Champions

:18:33. > :18:38.Long Distance Cup. He shows the way from Fame And Glory on the used.

:18:38. > :18:41.Tucked in behind them is Colour Vision. A half length is another

:18:41. > :18:45.grey. That's Electrolyser two lengths further back is Aiken, who

:18:45. > :18:48.is travelling on the outside of Saddler's Rock. Three away then is

:18:48. > :18:52.Opinion, Rite of Passage and out the back Askar Tau. Still no change

:18:52. > :18:58.in the order as they race out of Swinley Bottom, the softest part of

:18:58. > :19:01.the track. They race uphill now and it is Ile De Re in front bay length

:19:01. > :19:05.to Fame And Glory. Two away Colour Vision has had the perfect run

:19:05. > :19:09.behind them on the pace. On his outside is Electrolyser. Two

:19:09. > :19:13.lengths to Aiken. Going well for William Buick. Half a length on the

:19:13. > :19:16.inside Saddler's Rock. Two lengths to Opinion back in the field be

:19:16. > :19:21.followed by Rite of Passage and Askar Tau. All the time climbing up

:19:21. > :19:25.towards home. Five furlongs out now. On the inside Ile De Re bay laugh

:19:25. > :19:29.henge Fame And Glory. Two away on the inside is Colour Vision, being

:19:29. > :19:34.niggled from Electrolyser Behind then Saddler's Rock. Aiken still

:19:34. > :19:38.poised with about four lengths behind the leader. Further back

:19:38. > :19:43.Opinion with Rite of Passage and Askar Tau. Racing around the home

:19:43. > :19:47.bend now. Three furlongs left to go in the long distance Cup and Ile De

:19:47. > :19:52.Re is being tackled by Fame And Glory. Fame And Glory has put his

:19:52. > :19:56.nose in front. Electrolyser on the outside pulled out wide. Aiken is

:19:56. > :20:00.putting in a claim. Down the outside is Saddler's Rock. Inside

:20:00. > :20:05.Fame And Glory has kicked for home. A length-and-a-half clear. Aiken on

:20:05. > :20:09.the outside with Electrolyser and now Opinion has launched down the

:20:09. > :20:14.outside by Mickael Barzalona. They've got a furlong to go. Aiken

:20:14. > :20:17.moves up grabs the lead from Fame And Glory. They are followed bias

:20:17. > :20:22.as, Saddler's Rock and Opinion has been pulled up. It is Aiken in

:20:22. > :20:26.front. Here's Rite of Passage. Rite of Passage bursting through and

:20:26. > :20:30.Rite of Passage has got up to win from Aiken. Askar Tau out wide is

:20:30. > :20:36.third followed by Electrolyser and then Fame And Glory, Saddler's Rock,

:20:36. > :20:42.a gap to Ile De Re. Opinion almost pulled up, second last. And last is

:20:42. > :20:51.Colour Vision. Rite of Passage, what a sensational

:20:51. > :20:58.comeback. 510 days off the track and here he is. He comes back to

:20:58. > :21:03.win here for Dermot and Pat Smullen. They hit the line, Rite of Passage,

:21:03. > :21:10.the 2010 Gold Cup winner has pulled it out of the fire. He's beaten

:21:10. > :21:14.Aiken. Then on the outside Askar Tau. A gap then to Electrolyser in

:21:14. > :21:22.fourth. In fifth Fame And Glory couldn't go on. Sixth is Saddler's

:21:22. > :21:28.Rock. And then a long, long gap. Back to the seventh. Let's wait.

:21:28. > :21:32.There's Ile De Re. The other two are the two Godolphin runners -

:21:32. > :21:40.Opinion and just walking over the line - literally - Colour Vision,

:21:40. > :21:47.the Gold Cup winner, is last. Rite of Passage ridden by Pat Smullen.

:21:47. > :21:52.What a training performance by Dermot to produce this horse, a

:21:52. > :21:57.dual-purpose horse. He's a good jumper. In fact he was one of the

:21:57. > :22:01.favourites for one of the novices at Cheltenham not la long back as

:22:01. > :22:08.well. He ran a place there I believe.

:22:08. > :22:14.He's won a Gold Cup here as well. 8-1 the winner, Rite of Passage,

:22:14. > :22:18.has run 3: 35.98. That's the time for the two miles. He is the winner

:22:18. > :22:22.of our first race on British Champions Day. This is the long

:22:22. > :22:27.distance Cup. It could yet be a day of shocks. The old boy has done it!

:22:27. > :22:34.The oldest horse in the race at eight years old. The last time we

:22:34. > :22:41.saw him was May 2011. And here he comes. Rite of Passage through to

:22:41. > :22:44.win the long distance Cup. Aiken lugs across, gets tired, leads on

:22:44. > :22:48.Fame And Glory a bit. Pat Smullen keeps pushing Rite of Passage,

:22:49. > :22:54.keeps asking him and the horse responds, Willie. The first thing

:22:54. > :22:59.that comes out in the race, Fame And Glory should go back to a mile-

:22:59. > :23:06.and-a-half. That seems to be his distance. He doesn't get the two

:23:06. > :23:11.miles. Aiken thinks he's -- sorry, William Buick thinks he's got the

:23:11. > :23:17.race won. Two years the horse hasn't run for. He is eight years

:23:17. > :23:21.of age by Giants Causeway. An unbelievable training performance

:23:21. > :23:28.to bring a horseback on nearly heavy ground after two years of not

:23:28. > :23:34.being on the track. Fantastic. when he was so reluctant to go into

:23:34. > :23:37.the stalls, and he goes and does that! Look at his face. He looks

:23:37. > :23:42.like he's been riding at Cheltenham with all that mud. This horse has

:23:42. > :23:45.been to Cheltenham. That sort of experience has helped him today

:23:45. > :23:49.obviously, because that was a little bit not just a horse race.

:23:49. > :23:54.It was gruelling time for them. They were very, very tired. Horses

:23:54. > :23:59.at the furlong pole were starting to go sideways because they were

:23:59. > :24:05.very tired indeed. But this guy, what a performance by the trainer.

:24:05. > :24:13.And the trainer's son is heavily involved in the yard as well. He

:24:13. > :24:19.ran at Cheltenham in 2009 in the Bumper, he finished third, and in

:24:19. > :24:25.2010 the Supreme Novices. Although he is eight years old he hadn't had

:24:25. > :24:29.that many races. Aiken has run brilliantly well hasn't he? He's

:24:30. > :24:35.progressed. He is tired, goes on top of Fame And Glory there. The

:24:35. > :24:45.third horse, Askar Tau. He is normally a horse that loves rock

:24:45. > :24:53.hard ground. He has run a cracker! Hasn't he run well? He is bay the

:24:53. > :24:58.great Galileo. He is by mon dieu actually. Oh, sorry! Starts off a

:24:58. > :25:08.great Champions Day by winning the two-mile race here. The QIPCO

:25:08. > :25:11.

:25:11. > :25:21.British Champions Long Distance Cup. FANFARE

:25:21. > :25:23.

:25:23. > :25:30.APPLAUSE Rite of Passage, who won the Ascot

:25:31. > :25:38.Gold Cup here on good to firm ground has shown his versatility by

:25:38. > :25:43.winning on today's going, which is soft, heavy in places on the round

:25:43. > :25:52.course. To give you some idea, they ran 11.85 seconds outside of the

:25:52. > :26:00.record. 11.85. It is pretty slow, that's for sure. Carrying the

:26:00. > :26:04.colours of Dr Ronan Lamb. Scenes of elation there in the winner's

:26:04. > :26:11.enclosure. Dermot, there he is, just disappearing out of the right

:26:11. > :26:16.of the screen. A man who has trained two Melbourne Cup winners.

:26:16. > :26:24.Classics and great staying winners as well. This is a training

:26:24. > :26:31.performance of which even he would be deeply proud. Aiken went there

:26:31. > :26:41.to win but Rite of Passage was just far too good, a classy performance

:26:41. > :26:51.

:26:51. > :26:59.was Aiken at 4-1 and third was Askar Tau at 33-1. What a training

:26:59. > :27:07.performance that was. You've heard Clare and Willie

:27:07. > :27:15.mention what a remarkable training performance that is from Dermot.

:27:15. > :27:20.Not only a return after a 510-day absence. He is getting older. It is

:27:20. > :27:24.hard to retain that ability. We are trying to grab a word with the

:27:24. > :27:29.winning trainer. Dermot, congratulations. Loads of people

:27:29. > :27:33.are singing your praises. One of the greats of all time. He is a

:27:33. > :27:38.special horse and he deserved to come back. You must remember he set

:27:38. > :27:43.a track record in the Gold Cup, but he's had ongoing tendon problems,

:27:43. > :27:46.serious tendon problems, so it is a special day to bring him back.

:27:46. > :27:51.there ever a moment when you thought he might be retired? Most

:27:51. > :27:56.times I thought he would be retired. He's always had this great will to

:27:56. > :28:00.win, this horse. It was a matter of me keeping him sound, trying to get

:28:00. > :28:05.him fit. We've had such a wet year and a wet autumn. It was very

:28:05. > :28:09.difficult. I would liked to have had him away to work to be grass

:28:09. > :28:15.gallops but we didn't do it. I had a huge concern with the fitness.

:28:15. > :28:20.The plan was to take our time with him and hunt early on and ride him

:28:20. > :28:24.to come home. There's nobody better than Pat to do that. Here he is.

:28:24. > :28:29.Pat, that was a remarkable performance from a horse who hadn't

:28:29. > :28:33.run for a year-and-a-half. And the trainer as well. It is probably one

:28:33. > :28:38.of the most impressive training performances I've ever seen. The

:28:38. > :28:44.horse has had a lot of problems and the boss has worked extremely hard

:28:45. > :28:53.to. Have him ready for this race is something. At what point did you

:28:53. > :28:59.think you were going to win? It was always about fitness. As soon as we

:28:59. > :29:04.went over Swinley Bottom, we met the rising ground. It was brave and

:29:04. > :29:07.I took the chance to go down the inside and it came off for us.

:29:07. > :29:12.training performance obviously outstanding. The horse, going back

:29:12. > :29:16.to how tough you have to be, to come back after this time. It must

:29:16. > :29:22.be something that you find remarkable. It is a rarity in

:29:22. > :29:27.horses and this lad has it in abundance. He showed it in his win

:29:27. > :29:31.in the Ascot Gold Cup to. Come back on totally different conditions,

:29:31. > :29:36.99.9% of horses would have given up at the furlong pole but he fought

:29:36. > :29:39.himself through to a gap. talking point is the ground on the

:29:39. > :29:45.round course. It is very soft at Swinley Bottom, but it is not so

:29:45. > :29:48.bad on the straight. It is testing conditions. A last question to you

:29:48. > :29:53.Dermot. You have won the Melbourne Cup. Where does this performance

:29:53. > :29:57.rank in your training career? one of those very satisfying days.

:29:57. > :30:03.When you are fortunate, everybody trainer, we only have a limited

:30:03. > :30:07.number of good horses. Famous Name, and this horse. You have to get the

:30:07. > :30:13.maximum out of them. You have to mind them and try to have them

:30:13. > :30:16.right for the big days. This is one of the biggest tests I've faced.

:30:16. > :30:26.I'm delighted he's come good on the day. We've got the horse, the

:30:26. > :30:33.

:30:33. > :30:37.jockey and the answer. And the in the middle of the field, third

:30:37. > :30:44.right at the back, fourth and fifth up at the front. That would tend to

:30:45. > :30:50.suggest, Mick, that you wanted to be held up in this race. Nt Yes,

:30:50. > :30:57.Pat smulen got stopped a couple of times. I spoke to a few of the

:30:57. > :31:04.jockeys, even jockeys who ride horses that love soft ground,

:31:04. > :31:08.they've all come back and said it's very soft ground.

:31:08. > :31:11.Fame And Glory in second place. We'll have a look back at the

:31:11. > :31:16.closing stages as they begin to turn into the home straight. Fame

:31:16. > :31:21.And Glory hasn't won that badly at all. He's out in front in the pink

:31:21. > :31:31.and green jacket. Here is the winner though, purple and yellow

:31:31. > :31:33.

:31:33. > :31:39.coat. The best place to be for rim, is the rails? Yes, he's trying to

:31:39. > :31:44.get up there. Jamie Spencer's gone on Fame And Glory and he's thinking,

:31:44. > :31:47.I need a bit of luck here. He kept nudging away and luckily for him,

:31:47. > :31:51.because the ground is that bit softer, they've come back to him a

:31:51. > :31:58.bit and allowed him to get another one. You can see them coming

:31:58. > :32:04.between the horses here, it's given him a bit of encouragement. Pat

:32:04. > :32:07.smulen in no mood to be denied -- Smullen. They are all slows down,

:32:07. > :32:12.so very soft ground on the round course today remember. A couple of

:32:12. > :32:18.races, the straight sprint and the QEII Stakes over the straight mile.

:32:18. > :32:24.Won't be as bad ont straight course. Happy scenes for all those who can

:32:24. > :32:31.celebrate the success of Rite Of Passage. Nick Skelton there on the

:32:31. > :32:35.left who won show jumping at the Olympics. Dr Ronan Lamb and his

:32:36. > :32:45.wife, Anne. Good start to the day and Mick

:32:46. > :32:46.

:32:46. > :32:48.skeltp, one of many gold medallists. -- Skelton. Sophie Christianson won

:32:48. > :32:53.three Paralympics and we have a fantastic Olympic feel, a

:32:53. > :32:57.celebration of all that was good about 2012. Tina Cook who was part

:32:57. > :33:02.of the eventing team signing autographs and so many have come

:33:02. > :33:06.together because they know this is a great day of sport and horse

:33:06. > :33:13.sport. We have a few cross-country benches built here. That was saturn

:33:13. > :33:19.and this is the lucky horseshoe. Fingers crossed all will be lucky

:33:19. > :33:29.for Frankel. He could get beat. biggest test because of the ground

:33:29. > :33:36.and because of the opposition as well. The French cult... A gelding?

:33:36. > :33:41.Yes. I say that because that's why he couldn't race in the Ark. Yes,

:33:41. > :33:45.he's a very serious horse. He possibly is one of the best horses

:33:45. > :33:49.in the whole wide world because he's gone around the world and won

:33:49. > :33:53.everywhere. Then you've got Nathaniel who missed the ark

:33:53. > :33:59.detriumph, comes here, who obviously is one of the best horses

:33:59. > :34:03.in training in England. Very good over a mile and a half. It will

:34:03. > :34:10.feel like more than a mile and a quarter and could play into the

:34:10. > :34:15.hands of Nathaniel. That race at 4.05. A fitting end to the season

:34:15. > :34:20.and a fitting tribute to Frankel, we hope. The build-up to Champions

:34:21. > :34:25.Day began with a special salute to racing's biggest champion. The

:34:25. > :34:30.Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment exercising their horses in Hyde

:34:30. > :34:34.Park in a tribute organised by the Racing Post. Because Frankel is

:34:34. > :34:37.such a phenomenal athlete and incredible inspiration, we just

:34:37. > :34:41.couldn't turn this opportunity down. It's certainly never happened

:34:41. > :34:46.before and I shouldn't think it will ever happen again so it's

:34:46. > :34:55.extremely unique. On the track, James Fanshawe seeks to make it

:34:55. > :35:01.back-to-back wins when he saddles Society Rock, fancied by his rider.

:35:01. > :35:06.I think he's a horse you'll have to beat, regardless of ground. Dancing

:35:06. > :35:10.Rain was impressive last year and she seeks to repeat her good form,

:35:10. > :35:15.despite an 11-month absence from the track. She's as good as we can

:35:15. > :35:20.possibly get her. We are petrified about the ground, but she's in good

:35:20. > :35:24.form and she blew out on Wednesday and looked great to me. Richard

:35:24. > :35:30.Hughes is fresh from winning seven races at Windsor on Monday. The

:35:30. > :35:37.rider is looking forward to being officially crowned champion jockey.

:35:37. > :35:43.Very proud. Tried hard and I got what I wanted eventually. Got up

:35:43. > :35:49.behind Paul Hanagan. Character- building stuff that was! He was

:35:49. > :35:54.Most Improved in the QEI ch. Aidan O'Brien is hot favourite over the

:35:54. > :35:58.mile. Carlton House, in a last chance to provide the Monarch with

:35:58. > :36:03.a Group U winner Jubilee winner, will be here. Second time out very

:36:03. > :36:09.easily at Newbury on very soft ground, so I wouldn't see that as a

:36:09. > :36:15.big bogey man -- Group I. In the Champion Stakes, John Gosden on the

:36:15. > :36:18.verge of champion train Erhahon nours settles Nathaniel in his

:36:18. > :36:24.final race before retirement. Cirrus Des Aigles also lines up.

:36:24. > :36:29.With the French team believing they can upset Frankel's perfect record.

:36:29. > :36:35.Yes, I want to beat Frankel because now it's raining in England. He

:36:35. > :36:39.loves the ground like that. According to most professionals,

:36:39. > :36:45.Peslier's view is optimistic, as they predictth win on the bounce

:36:45. > :36:49.for the wonder horse that is Frankel. I hope he slaughters them.

:36:49. > :36:54.The horse has infer disappointed throughout his career. He's a

:36:54. > :36:58.certainty. A complete freak. We'll never see anything like him again.

:36:58. > :37:02.I've been with him at least ten anyway. Keeps on beating by the

:37:02. > :37:05.same distance. An amazing horse, looking forward to seeing him and I

:37:05. > :37:10.hope nothing goes wrong and he shows his stuff.

:37:10. > :37:14.Of course, Frankel-mania is gripping everybody. A couple of

:37:14. > :37:18.interested race-goers. Keith, you have been racing over 45 years and

:37:18. > :37:23.seen some good horses in your time? Yes, that's correct. Up until

:37:23. > :37:30.Frankel turned up, I would have to say the best horse I'd ever seen

:37:30. > :37:33.was Nijinski. Back in the days of Vincent O'Brien and Lester Pigott.

:37:33. > :37:40.This horse is spectacularly different. How many times have you

:37:40. > :37:47.seen him run then? 11. You have been to nearly all? Yes, except for

:37:47. > :37:53.one when I was in hospital. Then I excused myself from an X-ray to go

:37:53. > :37:58.and watch on the television, but yes, I've seen him and backed him

:37:58. > :38:02.to win the 2000 Guineas at 12-1 which always endears a horse to

:38:02. > :38:05.one's self-. Was he's a different class. The best you have ever seen?

:38:05. > :38:09.I would say almost certainly, well definitely. Jane, you are seeing

:38:09. > :38:19.Frankel for the third time? Yes, saw him here last year, fantastic

:38:19. > :38:21.

:38:21. > :38:25.horse. Saw him at York ah horse -- saw him at York. Are you going to

:38:25. > :38:29.see him? Hopefully. He'll win? Definitely. Thank you very much. A

:38:29. > :38:37.couple of interested punters here today. Someone who seen Frankel run

:38:37. > :38:41.a lot of times is Dave Yates who's joined me today. The SP of 1-4

:38:41. > :38:45.would suggest it's a tough test for Frankel? If you followed the

:38:45. > :38:53.betting, it would suggest it would be one to have tougherest tests. He

:38:54. > :38:58.was 10-1 when he won the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. He won the

:38:58. > :39:00.Sussex Stakes at Goodwood. 4-1, 5-1 on, the betting suggests he's faces

:39:00. > :39:04.a tougher task. If you use the market as your guide that,'s how

:39:04. > :39:09.you would see it. If you look at say private racings, now I've been

:39:09. > :39:13.looking at the Timeform ratings for this race and Frankel's races

:39:13. > :39:16.earlier in the season. Timeform established in 1948, a brand leader

:39:16. > :39:25.when it comes to assessing thoroughbred form. When Frankel won

:39:25. > :39:29.the Queen Anne, he was rated ten pounds clear of acceleration. 10-1,

:39:29. > :39:35.for the Sussex, he was 20 pounds clearer and now a stone. The

:39:35. > :39:43.betting tells you it's one of his hardest tasks, the private racings

:39:43. > :39:47.would tell you about one of -- it's one of the easiest. What about the

:39:47. > :39:52.ground? If it was normal fast, summer ground, Frankel would be 10,

:39:52. > :39:58.16, 20-1 on. We have had a saga towards the end of the week, will

:39:58. > :40:03.he won't he run, Lord grimthorpe walked the track, kept everybody

:40:03. > :40:09.informed and he's a runner. This is most extreme ground Frankel's raced

:40:09. > :40:15.on, whether he's able to reproduce his best, I personally think hi

:40:15. > :40:20.might get away with it, but I think he will. Will he win? I don't want

:40:20. > :40:24.to be the Grinch that stole Christmas, but yes, I think that's

:40:24. > :40:28.why we are all here. Standing here is a man who's had a tremendous

:40:28. > :40:34.year in the saddle, William Buick. You are just five points behind

:40:34. > :40:38.Joseph O'Brien. How much would it mean to you to win the title today?

:40:38. > :40:44.Well, it's basically just means that you won the best race in the

:40:44. > :40:49.country so it would mean a lot to me. That's what it's all about, to

:40:49. > :40:54.be able to compete on the big stage. I'm fortunate enough to have a good

:40:54. > :41:00.job and have great horses. Aiken, a big talking point today also about

:41:00. > :41:05.the ground, what did you make of it looking ahead to Nathaniel running?

:41:05. > :41:09.It's testing. You would expect that but it's not unsafe. It's safe.

:41:09. > :41:12.It's not, you know, I suppose it could be worse if there was more

:41:12. > :41:22.rain last night. They were fortunate they didn't get so much

:41:22. > :41:27.overnight, but it's very testing. You saw the two-mile race. They

:41:27. > :41:32.were bunched up near the line, so it's not going to be like a jump

:41:32. > :41:38.race. It will be very competitive. How do you think Nathaniel will

:41:38. > :41:42.shake-up today? He's the horse that's got closest to Frankel. That

:41:42. > :41:45.seems an eternity ago? Yes, they've both achieved a lot since then.

:41:45. > :41:51.Everybody knows about Frankel but Nathaniel has achieved a hell of a

:41:51. > :41:55.lot. Just got touched off being a back-to-back winner. He's a

:41:55. > :41:59.marvellous racehorse, has done very well and we are not here today to

:41:59. > :42:02.finish second, we are here to win and I'm going to try my best, as

:42:02. > :42:06.everybody is. He's in good form and everything's right on the day.

:42:06. > :42:11.Touch wood we can give Frankel a good race.

:42:11. > :42:21.Good luck. That's the bell going for the next race, the British

:42:21. > :42:39.

:42:39. > :42:49.Sprint Cup... A great feel for the Qipco British

:42:49. > :42:49.

:42:49. > :43:50.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 61 seconds

:43:50. > :43:54.Champions Sprint Stakes over six backed the favourite. Willie, what

:43:54. > :43:59.did you think of him in the paddock? Looks very good. He looks

:43:59. > :44:06.in control of himself, not like a sprinter. He has given a bit of

:44:06. > :44:10.trouble at the start when he ran against the Australian mare.

:44:10. > :44:14.broke slowly out the stalls, didn't he? Missed the kick completely and

:44:14. > :44:19.he was unlucky in that race. We don't want anything like that

:44:19. > :44:24.happening to him today, but he looks in real tip-top condition.

:44:24. > :44:29.The The trainer is worried about the timing of the year because he's

:44:29. > :44:33.worried about horses lose form, but he looks magnificent. The way he

:44:33. > :44:38.looks, I wouldn't have thought he'd lost his form. And he likes the

:44:38. > :44:44.ground as well which helps? It's a bit firm.

:44:44. > :44:51.We had an Irish winner in the first, could we have one in this? Slade

:44:51. > :44:59.Power? Yes, he's been proven in the ground, so the ground, he will love

:44:59. > :45:03.it. He's been winning, but he's been doing it so well and... I was

:45:03. > :45:13.just going to say, Eddie Lyneham, remember his winner in 010, in the

:45:13. > :45:27.

:45:27. > :45:34.none thurp? Yes, same colours. is totally proving... She looked

:45:34. > :45:41.fantastic. She won the Abbay. Flying home at Longchamp a couple

:45:42. > :45:46.of weeks ago. This might come a little bit quick but sprinters can

:45:46. > :45:54.normally take races close together. She looked magnificent in the

:45:54. > :46:01.paddock. This was over five furlongs. Today's race is over six.

:46:01. > :46:05.They finished really well to catch up. There she is in the green

:46:05. > :46:10.colours. The first two were having a battle royal. They changed places

:46:10. > :46:16.three times, the second and third. They are having a battle royal and

:46:16. > :46:24.got nipped on the post by this horse here, Wizz Kid, the French

:46:24. > :46:32.filly. And last year she finished second in the race behind Deacon

:46:32. > :46:42.Blue. There were only two French runners and she won it. Normally

:46:42. > :46:43.

:46:43. > :46:51.Olivier Peslier rides this one but he is byy, so it is Gerald Mosse.

:46:51. > :46:58.And Dunaden was beaten in Ascot at the King George wasn't he? Yes.

:46:58. > :47:03.Let's join Rishi. He's alongside a gold medallist Paralympian. Another

:47:03. > :47:07.gold medal-winning Olympician. Carl Hester. How are you? I'm very well

:47:07. > :47:11.thank you. Having a great day. Still basking in the glory of

:47:11. > :47:15.London? You think it is going to end when the Games finishes but it

:47:15. > :47:19.is really only just the start. There's much more promotion to do,

:47:19. > :47:23.many more people want hear about it and many more people want to have a

:47:23. > :47:28.swing on the medal. That's what I've found. And today is a great

:47:28. > :47:32.race day in its own right. I would love to hear your thoughts on

:47:32. > :47:37.Frankel. Are you going to see him up close and personal today? What

:47:37. > :47:41.are your impressions of what you've seen of him so far? For someone

:47:41. > :47:45.like me, I'm one of the crowd. He to come today. I didn't want to

:47:46. > :47:50.miss. This I wanted to see what he looked like in the real. I've only

:47:50. > :47:58.ever seen him on television. That arrow-like speed is so, so amazing

:47:58. > :48:01.to watch. I wanted to see it for myself in the real, because it is a

:48:01. > :48:05.national treasure that I think everybody is so enthusiastic about.

:48:05. > :48:10.I have never actually bet on a race. I know that might sound

:48:10. > :48:14.unbelievable. I'm one of the tight ones at the back who says he might

:48:14. > :48:21.but never does. We were talking this morning in our production

:48:21. > :48:26.meeting what Frankel looks like as a racehorse, the fact he stays ten

:48:26. > :48:31.furlongs and he is built like a sprinter. His backside is enormous.

:48:31. > :48:36.The horses that you ride have enormous power. It's a huge

:48:36. > :48:42.difference even when we talk about how big Frankel is. It is. I

:48:42. > :48:47.probably own the best dressage horse this the world. When you talk

:48:47. > :48:57.about Frankel's back end, where all the power comes from, and when you

:48:57. > :49:04.look at my horse, you think, that horse has a backside like a cook!

:49:04. > :49:11.He has an incredible movement. When I look at dressage you have to look

:49:11. > :49:16.at the engine. The way the hind legs work creates this amazing

:49:16. > :49:21.expression. Thank you Karl and have a bet on Frankel. I will. Thank you.

:49:21. > :49:24.This is the view from the skies. Will it be interesting to see how

:49:24. > :49:32.differently this rides. The straight course here was relaid a

:49:32. > :49:37.few years ago. It is based on sand. It drains much better. After the

:49:37. > :49:41.first they said it was very soft, some said soft to heavy. Jamie

:49:41. > :49:45.Spencer said it was very bad. was on a horse that didn't get home.

:49:45. > :49:50.Which does sometimes colour your opinion. Kite coo be a different

:49:50. > :49:55.affair. This is Maarek, cantering down to

:49:55. > :50:00.the start with Jamie Spencer on board. He won a listed race at

:50:00. > :50:04.Newcastle. He love as good cut in the ground. This is a most

:50:04. > :50:10.competitive race, Clare. The most competitive race of the whole day.

:50:10. > :50:16.There's a lot of horses here. Six, seven, maybe eight horses you could

:50:16. > :50:20.say could win this race. It is going to be very competitive.

:50:20. > :50:26.among those six or seven you have Society Rock, Wizz Kid,

:50:26. > :50:33.Restiadargent, who we had a bit of a flutter on. Then she got steamed

:50:33. > :50:40.up in the paddock and we wished we hadn't. Maarek, Royal Rock maybe

:50:40. > :50:46.has a chance. A lot of horses here have chances. But on paper we liked

:50:46. > :50:52.the look of this filly. Black Caviar was very nearly beaten here

:50:52. > :50:57.at Royal Ascot this summer. She was darn closed to winning, but she

:50:57. > :51:02.finished third. She was only beaten within a length of Black Caviar.

:51:02. > :51:10.They were making excuses for her that day, saing things didn't go

:51:10. > :51:15.quite right. She is a filly that has to have things go right for her.

:51:15. > :51:22.-- saying things didn't go quite right. This is Cirrus Des Aigles.

:51:22. > :51:30.Some horses are autumn horses. He's been pretty busy so far this season.

:51:30. > :51:40.As Willie says, it is a very open race. Cirrus Des Aigles could be

:51:40. > :51:45.

:51:45. > :51:53.the surprise package. Would have to improve. Society Rock 7-2.

:51:53. > :51:59.I cannot do the. That's alright, we forgive you. Medicean Man going

:51:59. > :52:05.forward there with Pat Cosgrave on board. We have to watch Society

:52:05. > :52:11.Rock to see how he leaves the stall. There is the French filly. She only

:52:11. > :52:16.ran two weeks ago but she's all muscling. She runs quick. Society

:52:16. > :52:23.Rock. That looks like him in the middle there. He will go in late.

:52:23. > :52:29.He's having a hood put on. A sash across him. Second from the right

:52:29. > :52:32.there. There he is getting a hood put on.

:52:32. > :52:36.And there's Cirrus Des Aigles going past. Kieren Fallon will try to

:52:36. > :52:42.make sure this time society jumps out of the stalls on the terms of

:52:42. > :52:49.rest of the field. If he does that he's got a really good chance.

:52:49. > :52:53.in charge of Society Rock. A really good chance, I must finish that

:52:53. > :52:59.sentence, adding to the success of last year. Society Rock will go off

:52:59. > :53:04.joint favourite with Wizz Kid. A very open race. Let's join Jim.

:53:04. > :53:14.Queally, the first of his two rides before Frankel. He's on Imperial

:53:14. > :53:18.Guest. They are set to go for the sprint. Shouts from the stalls, the

:53:18. > :53:22.jockeys weren't ready, but now they are. Royal Rock eased in behind

:53:22. > :53:26.this the early stages. Rest rest began well on the far side and

:53:26. > :53:30.Jimmy Styles is there in the centre. Van Ellis on the far side. In

:53:30. > :53:33.behind them is Wizz Kid, in company with Libranno. Further back is

:53:33. > :53:38.Hawkeyethenoo. On the nearside we've got four runners there as

:53:38. > :53:42.they race up the stands rail. It is The Cheka who is there on the

:53:42. > :53:46.nearside, showing the way from Imperial Guest. Behind them is

:53:46. > :53:50.Maarek, being pushed along and Medicean Man not that far away. Out

:53:50. > :53:54.of the centre is Jimmy Styles who shows the way from Restiadargent.

:53:55. > :53:58.Further back Van Ellis the far side. They are followed by the blue

:53:58. > :54:01.jacket of Elusivity from Libranno and Wizz Kid. On the nearside The

:54:01. > :54:06.Cheka showing out from Imperial Guest. They are followed by

:54:06. > :54:11.Medicean Man and Maarek. They race past if two. On the nearside The

:54:11. > :54:14.Cheka under pressure, grabbed by Imperial Guest and Maarek is

:54:14. > :54:19.bursting through. In the centre Van Ellis, Restiadargent, and here's

:54:19. > :54:23.Society Rock! Society Rock in the centre, but Maarek on the stands

:54:23. > :54:28.rail has burst in front. It was Hawkeyethenoo and Society Rock, but

:54:28. > :54:33.as they race towards the line Maarek has just got there there

:54:33. > :54:36.from Hawkeyethenoo. It is tight for third. Cirrus Des Aigles flew home.

:54:37. > :54:42.A photo with Society Rock. They are followed by Imperial Guest and

:54:42. > :54:46.Slade Power. The Cheka, followed by Wizz Kid and Medicean Man and Lewis

:54:46. > :54:54.lufplts further back Van Ellis, Restiadargent -- Elusivity, further

:54:54. > :55:01.back Van Ellis and Restiadargent and Jimmy Styles with Royal Rock.

:55:01. > :55:09.Another one for island. Two out of two. Number six Maarek, owned by a

:55:09. > :55:12.syndicate, trained by David Nagel and ridden by Jamie Spencer, has

:55:12. > :55:18.beaten Hawkeyethenoo. Tight for third. Cirrus Des Aigles in the

:55:18. > :55:21.centre made just have got there. From on the nearside very tight

:55:21. > :55:26.fourth there, Imperial Guest, and Society Rock. Top of the screen.

:55:27. > :55:32.They are followed by The Cheka, who ran so well for so far. They are

:55:32. > :55:36.followed by Wizz Kid. On the top of the screen, Slade Power crossing

:55:36. > :55:41.the line, in company with Elusivity in the blue. Then Van Ellis, who

:55:41. > :55:47.was just behind them. Third in the early stages. Medicean Man on the

:55:47. > :55:52.nearside was one of four that came up that stands rail to behind the

:55:52. > :55:59.others and then Restiadargent. Then Libranno. A gap Royal Rock in that

:55:59. > :56:04.black cap, followed by Jimmy Styles, who was one of the early leaders.

:56:04. > :56:09.That's the field. 15 of them you've seen there. The winner is number

:56:09. > :56:15.six, Maarek, ridden by Jamie Spencer. Second is number two,

:56:15. > :56:22.Hawkeyethenoo, Graham Lee. Third is number 9, that's Cirrus Des Aigles,

:56:22. > :56:28.Shane Kelly. And fourth is number three, Imperial Guest, ridden by

:56:28. > :56:32.Tom Queally. But Jamie Spencer reigns supreme in the sprint A pat

:56:32. > :56:38.on the back for Jamie Spencer for getting to the rail. That makes a

:56:38. > :56:45.difference. He is on a horse that loves soft ground. When a horse is

:56:45. > :56:52.getting tired, it helps. Maarek has done well to outlast the others. It

:56:52. > :56:57.is amazing how the race changed. Those up at the front faded. David

:56:57. > :57:02.only has a small yard. This is very much the star of his yard.

:57:02. > :57:05.excuse for him running last time was they didn't go fast enough for

:57:05. > :57:09.him, but today they went really fast. As you were saying, Clare,

:57:09. > :57:14.all the horses that were up front dropped away and the horses from

:57:14. > :57:18.the back came forwards. That might have something to do with the

:57:18. > :57:21.ground. But obviously they went fast enough for him today to give

:57:21. > :57:25.him a leave. They got to the furlong-and-a-half. I think

:57:25. > :57:30.possibly running on the rail is a slight help, as was the length, and

:57:30. > :57:34.maybe the ground might have drained a little better there. In years

:57:34. > :57:44.gone by you could always come up the stands rails for the faster

:57:44. > :57:52.

:57:52. > :57:57.ground. That was before the new slipstream of another horse, and in

:57:57. > :58:01.company with other horses. Restiadargent and Van Ellis, they

:58:01. > :58:09.fade and through comes Society Rock, comes to challenge but maybe can't

:58:09. > :58:13.finish it off on this ground, and Maarek has flown. Three or four

:58:13. > :58:17.lengths clear there. Hawkeyethenoo finishes well. The Scottish horse,

:58:17. > :58:23.Hawkeyethenoo. He ran a blind tore finish second. And Cirrus Des

:58:23. > :58:29.Aigles. I said most of the crowd have arrived but Her Majesty the

:58:29. > :58:39.Queen making her arrival. She will be presenting the trophy for the

:58:39. > :58:40.

:58:40. > :58:47.Queen Elizabeth II Stakes... Unless she wins it herself! APPLAUSE

:58:47. > :58:53.And Maarek still very much on his toes. The sprinter all get a little

:58:53. > :58:57.bit geed up. His heart rate will be very high. This is the time when

:58:57. > :59:02.horses can be a little dangerous and do things unexpectedly. Can I

:59:02. > :59:06.ask you a question? As an extremely experienced jockey, watching what

:59:06. > :59:11.you've seen for the first two races, if you were Tom Queally or any of

:59:11. > :59:16.the jockeys in the later races, what are you thinking? Well,

:59:16. > :59:21.obviously the first thing is it is very testing. The ground is very

:59:21. > :59:26.tiring, so the thing is it is no good getting the race won at the

:59:26. > :59:30.furlong pole. So delay your challenge? I'm saying reserve your

:59:30. > :59:34.horse, keep saving, keep saving, keep saving, because you have to

:59:34. > :59:40.get to the winning post. The winning post is where the money is,

:59:40. > :59:47.not at the furlong pole. You have to save, save, and save, especially

:59:47. > :59:53.this these conditions.. As a jockey do you make yourself count to ten?

:59:53. > :59:58.Do you say, "I want to go now but I'll wait?" It is one of the

:59:58. > :00:03.hardest things I had to do. I used to say to myself, "Must wait, must

:00:03. > :00:08.wait" but a little fella inside your head makes your arms start

:00:08. > :00:14.bumping before you should. Your brain is saying no, but a little

:00:14. > :00:18.fella is saying "go for it, because you can get there" but sometimes

:00:18. > :00:21.you can go to too soon. These conditions are saying keep saving,

:00:21. > :00:25.because you have to get to the winning post. On the other hand, if

:00:25. > :00:30.you get yourself in a situation where you get well clear when the

:00:30. > :00:40.ground is soft like this, they are not going to catch you. You can

:00:40. > :01:01.

:01:01. > :01:07.give weight away but you can't give course is a lot better, a lot

:01:07. > :01:13.quicker, if you like, if that's the correct term, than the round course,

:01:13. > :01:22.it's still pretty slow, as you can see. Nearly five seconds outside

:01:22. > :01:28.the record. Jamie Spencer racing here last year. Successful on Fame

:01:28. > :01:38.And Glory. Second year at this meeting and he's won the sprint on

:01:38. > :02:03.

:02:03. > :02:06.Maarek, a really good consistent talking about Rite Of Passage and

:02:06. > :02:13.what a tough and courageous performance that was for a horse

:02:13. > :02:23.out for such a long time. This horse has been busy this year?

:02:23. > :02:25.

:02:25. > :02:31.he's been very consistent all season and, you know, he's worked

:02:31. > :02:36.everything out perfectly. Do you think it mattered about the

:02:36. > :02:41.course? We wouldn't have gone there if Neil hadn't gone there. He's a

:02:41. > :02:49.good horse. He handles softer conditions well. The Cheka was

:02:49. > :02:55.always going to give me a good lead. At the Curragh he pulled up with

:02:55. > :02:59.100 yards out. A bit further, he would have won more comprehensively.

:02:59. > :03:03.The winning trainer, David. What convinced you after getting beaten

:03:03. > :03:07.last week that you were going to come to Champions Day today?

:03:07. > :03:13.Curragh didn't really work out right. We were beaten by a very

:03:13. > :03:17.good filly. Ours just lost her way. Soft ground, he loves soft ground.

:03:17. > :03:25.Why not? He's in good form all season. Absolutely. How easy has it

:03:26. > :03:34.been to keep him in such good form after such a tough campaign? Well,

:03:34. > :03:39.he does a lot of swimming. Miles are on the clock, kept him fresh

:03:39. > :03:49.all year. Feelings on the winning the Qipco? Let you know when it

:03:49. > :03:55.

:03:55. > :04:05.sinks in! Let us have a look at the start of this sprint race which has

:04:05. > :04:05.

:04:05. > :04:10.is here now. Cirrus Des Aigles just had a very anxious moment. He got

:04:10. > :04:15.out on reasonable terms for him and he said he ran a very good race and

:04:16. > :04:19.just got left on his own a bit. Jamie Spencer strong on his own.

:04:20. > :04:28.The one with the white cap was the eventual winner, three from the

:04:28. > :04:31.right. He's held up in the last of the four at the race stand side.

:04:32. > :04:36.Cirrus Des Aigles and Haukeyethenoo held up here. Those that have been

:04:36. > :04:42.out in front in this contest have used up a lot of energy. It's been

:04:42. > :04:49.difficult for them. The closing stages here. There is the winner,

:04:50. > :04:53.Cirrus Des Aigles coming through and Lindsey Ann Hawker there. --

:04:53. > :04:58.Haukeyethenoo there. I had a word with Graham Lee, he was delighted

:04:58. > :05:08.and very proud of his horse. He tried to follow Keiron's horse

:05:08. > :05:09.

:05:09. > :05:15.through. Society Rock has a great record here. Five out, she was left

:05:15. > :05:19.with loads of space. Very different to Longchamp. Under the stand side

:05:19. > :05:24.rail where the winner comes from and again, the ground is a massive

:05:24. > :05:28.factor here today. Some of these will be running next year. Some of

:05:28. > :05:32.them, you can rule out their performance today because they

:05:32. > :05:37.absolutely hated these conditions. Going back to the stables now,

:05:37. > :05:41.there's our winner, Maarek, and we have had two Irish-trained winners

:05:41. > :05:51.so far on British Champions Day. Could be the first four.? Exactly.

:05:51. > :05:52.

:05:52. > :05:55.Coming up, we like Sapphire, Was and Aidan O'Brien. The Irish are

:05:55. > :06:00.going to have a very good day here. At the moment they've won two.

:06:00. > :06:05.have had a few horses not cope with the conditions. Are you surprised?

:06:05. > :06:09.The sprint there, the form and sprint there, I thought it was very

:06:09. > :06:14.competitive and there was at least eight horses that could have won.

:06:14. > :06:22.That's exactly how it's turned out. The ground is definitely making a

:06:22. > :06:32.difference. Huge success there, the trophy

:06:32. > :06:35.

:06:35. > :06:40.presentation there. In the early hours of this morning, there was a

:06:40. > :06:45.win in Australia for this team. Thanks to him, we have this great

:06:45. > :06:50.Champions Day because he's the sponsor of Qipco. He's clapping the

:06:50. > :06:53.winners and it's thanks to him that we've got this fantastic day here.

:06:53. > :06:56.Talking of Champions Day, the man we know will be champion jockey

:06:56. > :07:06.because he's so far in front he can't be caught in Richard Hughes

:07:06. > :07:07.

:07:07. > :07:11.and let's celebrate with him now. Monday afternoon at Windsor, seven

:07:11. > :07:16.winners from eight rides. Did you think two or three maybe?

:07:16. > :07:23.Definitely thought two or three. A good race. You never believe you

:07:23. > :07:31.will do anything like that. It's a lucky track for you? Two-year-old

:07:31. > :07:35.there is ever ry Monday. We seem to win the first race on Monday nights.

:07:35. > :07:40.One of them, Ryan very kindly gave up his ride in the very last race,

:07:40. > :07:44.is that right? Yes, probably after the fifth race so when I got beat

:07:44. > :07:49.on the sixth race, I still knew I had three favourites left. It was a

:07:49. > :07:53.fantastic afternoon. We are at the track where your little Italian

:07:53. > :08:03.mate managed to do it as well. You managed to do it at Windsor. You

:08:03. > :08:10.

:08:10. > :08:15.did a flying dismount. We'll have a look at number eight. The big white

:08:15. > :08:21.face there did well. Did you take a bit of encouragement to do the

:08:21. > :08:30.flying dismount? I was asked to do it. I'm not made to do them with my

:08:30. > :08:36.legs, but I was happy to be in one piece after that. Were you always

:08:36. > :08:41.going to? No, they kept going on about it. It's a long way down,

:08:41. > :08:45.even for a tall guy like you. Not bad. Pretty pathetic. Frankie call

:08:45. > :08:50.youd from Canada, didn't he? Yes, he said he was proud of me. That

:08:50. > :08:56.was lovely that he called. Fabulous thing to do. Ground today, you have

:08:56. > :09:00.just ridden in Libranno in the race. How is the ground going to be for

:09:00. > :09:04.the next one? She won on soft ground, the ground is soft, but it

:09:04. > :09:08.should be in the middle of October, so no complaints there. The horse

:09:08. > :09:13.that everybody's watching this afternoon is Frankel. You were the

:09:13. > :09:18.only person to ride his mother, a filly called Kind and you did win

:09:18. > :09:21.on very heavy ground on her one day, didn't you? I went up to Hamilton

:09:21. > :09:27.one Sunday and there was water lying in the dip on the racecourse

:09:27. > :09:31.and we didn't know whether the race was going to go ahead. It was her

:09:31. > :09:35.most impressive performance. Frankel is anything like his mum,

:09:35. > :09:45.you don't think he'll have any problem with these conditions?

:09:45. > :09:46.

:09:46. > :09:49.have to build a brick wall. You are a long way clear fortune jockey?

:09:49. > :09:55.How many years have you been waiting to be champion jockey?

:09:55. > :10:00.when I was 15, to be honest, so a long time. Congratulations and very

:10:00. > :10:05.well done on Monday afternoon. Thank you. Thrilled for Richard

:10:05. > :10:09.Hughes. An extraordinary 12 months it's been. This time last year, he

:10:09. > :10:19.handed his licence in because he was cross with the bans he got over

:10:19. > :10:27.

:10:27. > :10:31.fact he started with a ban on something that happened in India.

:10:31. > :10:36.He missed the whole of MASH and lots of April. He wasn't allowed to

:10:36. > :10:43.ride because of something he did in India which was controversial

:10:43. > :10:46.because something with the rule that you mustn't do which it is

:10:46. > :10:50.different to the rules here. were champion jockey five times.

:10:50. > :10:54.Yes. Stkpw how important is it, how pleased are you for Richard Hughes

:10:54. > :10:58.to be able to say, I'm champion jockey, and for you, was that the

:10:58. > :11:05.thing that you are proudest of in your career? Yes, because it's day

:11:05. > :11:08.in day out. You're superior to the jockeys in the weighing room

:11:08. > :11:15.because you proved yourself to be a hard worker. That's what it's all

:11:15. > :11:25.about. Day in day out, consistently doing the job and getting it done.

:11:25. > :11:27.

:11:27. > :11:31.It's a mighty thing to be a chaun jockey in this country. -- a

:11:31. > :11:38.champion jockey. They are up early in the morning

:11:38. > :11:42.and travelling as well, 400 miles a day. It's expensive with the petrol

:11:42. > :11:46.now. Yes, jockeys can be out-of- pocket. You have to be riding two

:11:46. > :11:51.and three horses every day to make it pay, so it's very difficult for

:11:51. > :11:56.jockey who is're only getting one ride and then, of course, you don't

:11:56. > :12:04.get many winners, so you are not getting much percentage coming in.

:12:04. > :12:10.It's a tough life! Hughesy should be proud of himself! Yes. This man,

:12:10. > :12:15.swg spent all those years driving all around the country to win the

:12:15. > :12:19.competitions, you turn your hands to television. Keep going. What a

:12:19. > :12:22.joy it's been to work alongside him. We have had 14 years together, you

:12:22. > :12:27.have done 15 and 16 years together and we'll just take this

:12:27. > :12:37.opportunity to remind you of what makes Willie Carson so special.

:12:37. > :12:46.

:12:46. > :12:53.I hope you are ready at home. You are the Kingers of the trainers.

:12:53. > :13:00.You are the prince. No, no. Red mark here. That's when she hit me.

:13:00. > :13:10.I did not hit you. You compared me to a big strong colt. You are a big

:13:10. > :13:22.

:13:23. > :13:29.like that "Yes"! To me. How lovely. Willie never misses an opportunity!

:13:29. > :13:39.Who was he kissing? I fell into that one. I could smack Willie

:13:39. > :14:03.

:14:03. > :14:13."Everyone needs a Willie". you're mine. Shall we go outside.

:14:13. > :14:17.

:14:17. > :14:21.I'm your little Willie. Let's go out quickly, quickly, quickly.

:14:21. > :14:27.that... It's going to be very hard to beat

:14:27. > :14:34.that, to be honest. I was asked who was the funniest man I ever met the

:14:34. > :14:39.other day and I said you. You are funny in lots of ways. Completely

:14:39. > :14:43.unpredictable, a joy to work with, always laughing and making sure

:14:43. > :14:50.it's entertainment. That's what the people want, they like it. Actually,

:14:50. > :14:56.I believe, when people talk to me, they like me taking the mick out of

:14:56. > :15:00.you! Brilliant. I'm so pleased. It's not easy, either, I can ashur

:15:00. > :15:06.you. The reason people have come here today so not so much to say

:15:06. > :15:11.goodbye to you, it's because of this horse. You have the chance to

:15:11. > :15:21.put your face into the gap there to pretend you are riding Frankel. You

:15:21. > :15:30.

:15:30. > :15:36.due off. A field of just six. Frankel is the odds-on favourite.

:15:36. > :15:42.And there is the man. I was asking you early what you would think if

:15:42. > :15:47.you had been watching the first two races, from your experience, Willie,

:15:47. > :15:53.Tom has done a brilliant job on Frankel. If you could have a

:15:53. > :15:58.whisper in his ear, what would you say right now? I would say, be cool.

:15:58. > :16:02.Don't let the occasion get to you. Just go out there and do the same

:16:02. > :16:07.thing, be as cool as you've always done. It's just another race.

:16:07. > :16:14.That's how he's got to take it. He looks lovely and cool. Give us a

:16:14. > :16:18.wave. Well done. Thank you. Just keep cool and don't worry. You're

:16:18. > :16:21.sitting on a phenomenon and you are just going to let him go through

:16:21. > :16:28.the motions and everybody's going to be happy at the end of it. It

:16:28. > :16:36.won't be his fault if the horse gets beaten. Will it be the ground.

:16:36. > :16:42.That's the only worry. What's he woishing about? Nothing. -- what's

:16:42. > :16:48.he worrying about? Nothing. The Tom has to prepare for life

:16:48. > :16:54.after Frankel. There'll be another horse like that. We think he's the

:16:54. > :16:59.best we've ever seen. I compared everything with my horses, because

:16:59. > :17:04.they were the best horses I ever rode. And of course you get such a

:17:04. > :17:10.thrill out of riding those horses. Everybody out in the streets talk

:17:10. > :17:14.about. Still people come up to me and talk about those horses, with

:17:14. > :17:19.affection. What Tom Queally is going to get in the next 30 years

:17:19. > :17:24.is affection from the public coming up to him and saying, "What was it

:17:24. > :17:27.really like to ride a horse like that." He can replay it to them.

:17:27. > :17:33.He's the Moon getting all the pleasure out of Frankel, because

:17:33. > :17:38.he's the man that is in the driving seat. He's the man that's getting

:17:38. > :17:43.the biggest pleasure of any jockey that there's ever been. He is the

:17:43. > :17:48.man that's rode the fastest, the pravest, the strongest horse -- the

:17:48. > :17:53.bravest, the strongest horse that, in my opinion, there's ever been.

:17:53. > :17:58.He is the best. It is unbelievable and we are in for a big treat this

:17:58. > :18:02.afternoon. To just see this horse gallon ground that possibly he

:18:02. > :18:05.doesn't like, and -- gallop on ground that possibly he doesn't

:18:05. > :18:09.like and still win. Cirrus Des Aigles is regarded as the best

:18:09. > :18:15.horse in the whole wide world without Frankel. He's got a big

:18:15. > :18:21.test on his hands. Let's hope that Tom Queally keeps cool and gets the

:18:21. > :18:25.job done. If that hasn't got you excited about the Champion Stakes

:18:25. > :18:35.later, nothing well. Coming up next is the QIPCO British Champions

:18:35. > :18:35.

:18:35. > :19:41.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 61 seconds

:19:42. > :19:44.Two wins to Ireland. They've got British Champions Fillies' And

:19:44. > :19:54.Mares' Stakes is from Ireland, Sapphire.

:19:54. > :20:07.

:20:07. > :20:14.Dermot Weld looking for a quick Your favourite is Sapphire, 9-4.

:20:14. > :20:19.This is Sapphire cantering down to the start. Pat Smullen and Dermot

:20:19. > :20:24.Weld have already won the first, with Rite of Passage. You would

:20:24. > :20:27.think that Sapphire would have a decent chance of winning this QIPCO

:20:27. > :20:34.British Champions Fillies' And Mares' Stakes. You like her don't

:20:34. > :20:39.you? Yes. She's not a strong filly. You would nearly call her on the

:20:39. > :20:47.weak side looking at her there. She's not a heavy animal. She love

:20:47. > :20:57.this is ground. On the last three occasions she's been in it, she's

:20:57. > :20:58.

:20:58. > :21:03.been beat... In the Pretty Polly race. He pipped her up high at the

:21:03. > :21:12.Curragh and beat her. She is obviously the one to baects because

:21:12. > :21:16.she handles the ground. -- she is obviously the one to beat.

:21:16. > :21:23.Let's talk to Tom Queally. Tom, what is it like to have the best

:21:23. > :21:27.seat in the house? I wouldn't swap it for any other seat. For you as a

:21:27. > :21:31.jockey this must be dream stuff really. A dream come true. It is

:21:31. > :21:36.amazing to be part of it all. A tremendous privilege to be the man

:21:36. > :21:42.on his back. Everyone is here to see him and who they like it or not

:21:42. > :21:48.they are going to have to look at me too. I think you have grown into

:21:48. > :21:56.the role as his jockey. I know him so well. You know yourself, you get

:21:56. > :22:01.to know their traits, theirins and outs, their strengths and

:22:01. > :22:06.weaknesses -- their ins and outs, their strengths and weaknesses.

:22:06. > :22:10.What about the ground? I saw you walking it? I've had a look at it.

:22:10. > :22:17.We would prefer it to be quicker but it is what it is. I don't think

:22:17. > :22:22.it will be a major concern. We'll see what happens. The best of luck.

:22:22. > :22:31.Thank you Mick. Tom Queally looking forward to the challenge ahead.

:22:31. > :22:35.This filly, Great Heavens. Really stepped up to the mark. Nathaniel

:22:35. > :22:39.was meant to run in the Arc. He had a problem, was running a

:22:39. > :22:43.temperature, so they pulled him out of the Arc. They supplemented this

:22:44. > :22:48.filly. That's quite a big thing to ask a three-year-old filly to do.

:22:48. > :22:54.She ran brilliantly. For a stride or two looked like she might be in

:22:54. > :22:59.the first three. That was a very tough race for a filly in the Arc

:22:59. > :23:04.de Triomphe. Although three-year- old fillys have sometimes won the

:23:04. > :23:10.Arc. You wouldn't have thought it was the right thing to be doing. It

:23:10. > :23:15.is not very long since the Arc. days. Yes, so travelling to France

:23:15. > :23:21.and running on soft ground there, coming here on soft ground. It's a

:23:21. > :23:27.big ask but she's a very good filly. And here is another very good filly.

:23:28. > :23:32.Dancing Rain. Hasn't run for a whole. She had chips removed. Won

:23:32. > :23:37.the Oaks last year. Top class. Very consistent until they found these

:23:37. > :23:41.problems at the end of the season. Two chips were taken out, which

:23:41. > :23:45.were causing the muscle spasms she was having. It has taken a long

:23:45. > :23:51.time to get her back on the track. I would have assumed Johnny Murtagh

:23:52. > :23:56.would have had the choice of Dancing Rain or Vow. He's chosen

:23:56. > :24:01.the older filly, probably because she's proven... They would have to

:24:02. > :24:05.think this is the better filly. she likes soft ground. She hasn't

:24:06. > :24:13.run for a year. William Haggas is trying to bring this filly back

:24:13. > :24:18.from injury, without a prep race, to win this group 2. Can he do a

:24:18. > :24:24.Dermot Weld, who has come back from two years off with an injury? It

:24:24. > :24:31.would be nice if he could do the same as Dermot Weld. This is last

:24:31. > :24:36.year's Oaks winner, Was. A very nice filly, Galileo again.

:24:36. > :24:43.Everybody was thinking she was lucky in the Epsom Oaks. Maybe she

:24:43. > :24:47.was. She's been beaten by horse who is have run in the Oaks since.

:24:47. > :24:51.Shirocco Star ran second at Longchamp last. She is the toughest

:24:51. > :24:59.filly in this race. She's had lots of racing. I would really love her

:24:59. > :25:09.to win a big one. Just because she is so consistent. Was on inside.

:25:09. > :25:10.

:25:11. > :25:19.Wow wow on the inside, finishing -- Vow on the inside, finishing fourth.

:25:19. > :25:24.Johnny is going to be the last one in, on Dancing Rain. Going forward.

:25:24. > :25:26.Johnny won on this filly last year. Can they do it again they are

:25:26. > :25:31.racing in this QIPCO British Champions Fillies' And Mares'

:25:31. > :25:37.Stakes. The first to begin in the centre was headed by Dancing Rain

:25:37. > :25:41.on the outside. Just in behind them Great Heavens and followed by La

:25:41. > :25:45.Pomm D'Amour. There's very bright pink sleeves and cap, on the inside.

:25:45. > :25:51.They race downhill all the time. Two or three lengths is Sapphire,

:25:51. > :25:59.on the outside of Shirocco Star. Semeyyel is further back. Vow third

:25:59. > :26:04.from Testosterone. Last is Johannes. All the time running down -- last

:26:04. > :26:10.is Jehannedarc. They are getting away from that inside rail. Dancing

:26:10. > :26:17.Rain is the leader. Two to three horses off the rail. Was in second.

:26:17. > :26:25.Tucked behind them is La Pomm D'Amour. A length away is Sapphire,

:26:25. > :26:30.followed by Semeyyel, followed further back by Vow and Jehannedarc.

:26:30. > :26:34.Racing out of Swinley Bottom. Dancing Rain, last year's winner

:26:34. > :26:37.for Johnny Murtagh shows the way from the Oaks winner Was. A length

:26:37. > :26:42.away La Pomm D'Amour, on the inside of Great Heavens. A length-and-a-

:26:42. > :26:49.half Shirocco Star and Sapphire in the red cap. Looming large on the

:26:49. > :26:55.outside for Pat Smullen. Two or three away is Vow, followed by

:26:55. > :26:58.Testosterone and Jehanbux. All the time -- Testosterone and

:26:58. > :27:08.Jehannedarc. The leader is Dancing Rain by a half length to was was.

:27:08. > :27:08.

:27:08. > :27:16.Shirocco Star getting closer behind them. Great Heavens. On the outside

:27:16. > :27:22.is La Pomm D'Amour followed by Sapphire. It is Dancing Rain still

:27:22. > :27:26.the one to catch. Now a length-and- a-half, Was on the outside. Shen

:27:26. > :27:30.Shirocco Star. Great Heavens on the outside. La Pomm D'Amour behind

:27:30. > :27:35.them. Sapphire held up by a run. Followed by Semeyyel. Two furlongs

:27:35. > :27:38.left to go. Dancing Rain on the far side trying to hold on, being

:27:38. > :27:44.grabbed by Shirocco Star, who gets her nose in fronts. Now Sapphire is

:27:44. > :27:50.out of the pack and starting to run home strongly. Then clear then of

:27:50. > :27:57.Was and Great Heavens. Sapphire on the outside puts her neck in front.

:27:57. > :28:00.Shirocco Star is has Sapphire is starting to draw away. A double for

:28:00. > :28:06.Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen. Sapphire wins from Shirocco Star

:28:06. > :28:15.and Dancing Rain. Behind them Great Heavens, followed then by Semeyyel.

:28:15. > :28:21.Further back in the field is Testosterone, Jehannedarc, Was, Vow

:28:21. > :28:26.and la lamb. Three out of three for Ireland on British Champions Day.

:28:26. > :28:30.The visitors. They are really making a mark. Sapphire, what a

:28:30. > :28:35.talented filly. She's won it easily from Shirocco Star. Second in the

:28:35. > :28:38.Oaks. Second in the Irish Oaks and now second in the QIPCO British

:28:38. > :28:44.Champions Fillies' And Mares' Stakes. Dancing Rain, so brave

:28:44. > :28:52.today. Tried to leave lead all the way. On the nearside Testosterone

:28:52. > :28:59.has come from last. Semeyyel on the far side. Was didn't run on at all.

:28:59. > :29:06.Jehanbux in the black and red colours. Vow is further back. Got

:29:06. > :29:13.very tired. These conditions really testing. Sapphire has been very

:29:13. > :29:16.highly thought of. She completes a double for Dermot Weld and Pat

:29:16. > :29:24.Smullen, who was successful with Rite of Passage. The one, two,

:29:24. > :29:31.three and four: first Sapphire. Second, Shirocco Star. Third,

:29:31. > :29:34.Dancing Rain, and fourth Great Heavens, ridden by William Buick.

:29:34. > :29:39.I'm fairly sure that's Dermot Weld's further winner from five run

:29:39. > :29:44.ers in Great Britain this year. He really is the master of the

:29:44. > :29:49.selected target. Selected target? He's the master. Selected targets

:29:49. > :29:55.around the world. Exactly. He's conquered America, Australia,

:29:55. > :30:02.England, France. Where else? He's been mosts. He is pretty wise isn't

:30:02. > :30:12.he? He's a very good trainer. He's a trained vet you know. He started

:30:12. > :30:27.

:30:27. > :30:32.off a vet. He's been very Smullen's fitted into the job well.

:30:32. > :30:38.Well done, Pat. You've had a very, very good day so far. I don't think

:30:38. > :30:42.you have got anything left, no, you haven't. That's it. Finished. Had a

:30:42. > :30:47.very good day. Talk us through the race. Dancing Rain liked to make

:30:48. > :30:54.the running? She did it. Johnny was trying to wait in front and Keiron

:30:54. > :31:00.was waiting with Shirocco Star? Ryan Moore wasn't letting Smullen

:31:00. > :31:06.to go slower. There's Shirocco Star. I feel so sorry for this top

:31:06. > :31:13.genuine filly. She runs so many brave races. She's run at top

:31:13. > :31:17.league all the time, Group Is, Group 2 and she keeps finding one.

:31:17. > :31:24.Sapphire who has been running on soft ground the last four times,

:31:24. > :31:30.this filly just loves sound ground and she's used to it. Shirocco Star

:31:30. > :31:35.has been running on firm ground, soft ground and good ground and

:31:35. > :31:42.still runs genuine every time. There you have this improving filly

:31:42. > :31:46.and she just got beat at the Curragh by John Gosden's filly.

:31:46. > :31:49.The crowd are being give fn a chance to see all the winners. --

:31:49. > :31:56.given a chance. It feels more like a jumps day because of the weather

:31:56. > :31:59.as well? Yes, no cold wind whistling. The soft ground and also

:31:59. > :32:03.the race goers that have come appreciating the horses and the

:32:03. > :32:08.efforts they've made? They've come to see one horse basically, but

:32:08. > :32:16.they are seeing a lot of other champion s as well. Here is one

:32:16. > :32:26.coming into the winning enclosure now with Pat Smullen getting in

:32:26. > :32:27.

:32:27. > :32:33.here and giving Aidan O'Brien a bit of something. Here we are. The

:32:33. > :32:43.trumpet parade or what do you want to call it The fan far. This's the

:32:43. > :32:48.

:32:48. > :32:58.word! The fan tear coming and playing for the Qipco champion

:32:58. > :33:02.

:33:02. > :33:08.fillies and mares stakes. -- fanfare.

:33:08. > :33:13.A really big crowd here, 32,000 sell out for Ascot today.

:33:13. > :33:19.Distances, two and a quarter length, two and three quarter lengths and

:33:19. > :33:24.the time 237.32 is actually about 10.5 seconds outside the record.

:33:24. > :33:29.You could see Johnny Murtagh trying to get away from the inside rail as

:33:29. > :33:39.they ran down to Swinley Bottom, the softest part of the course. Not

:33:39. > :33:44.surprising to see that tactic. They are getting through it slowly. It's

:33:44. > :33:52.supposed to be British Champions day. We have had three Irish

:33:52. > :34:02.champions sofar. This filly's a real gem. She's got real class and

:34:02. > :34:03.

:34:03. > :34:06.talent. And she's won it extremely well. Here she is. Pat Smullen

:34:06. > :34:12.again. Really big day for him. Big prize money here this afternoon.

:34:12. > :34:22.Let's check the full result on race three, the Qipco British Champions

:34:22. > :34:30.

:34:30. > :34:35.three races, three winners. Dermot Weld is having a fantastic day. I

:34:35. > :34:39.spoke to him last week about what runners he might have and he

:34:39. > :34:44.mentioned that Sapphire would be his intended runner for this race.

:34:44. > :34:48.I thought Princess handicap highway would be but she ran in Canada.

:34:48. > :34:53.Dermot, congratulations, I talked about the candidates for this race.

:34:53. > :34:58.Princess highway went to Canada. So when did you make the plan for

:34:58. > :35:01.Sapphire to run here? It was either going to be wp Princess handicap

:35:01. > :35:05.Highway or this filly and with the weather forecast, it looked like

:35:05. > :35:10.being dry ground in Canada and a good cut in the ground here and

:35:10. > :35:16.this filly appreciates a nice ease in the ground. Hence we decided on

:35:16. > :35:21.here. She ran a fantastic race last time out. Over a mile and a half, a

:35:21. > :35:30.remarkable record? Unbeaten I think on a mile and a half. We considered

:35:30. > :35:40.running her in the Irish Z ledger and wasn't happy with her up to the

:35:40. > :35:44.

:35:44. > :35:50.race -- the rish St Leger. Today? Ascot's always been lucky for me.

:35:50. > :35:54.We have been fortunate to have 17 Group races here. A word with your

:35:54. > :36:00.jockey. Pat, it seemed to go well for you, a good gallop upfront and

:36:00. > :36:03.she loves the trip? Very confident of a big run from this filly but

:36:03. > :36:08.it's always nice to ride a winner because you can be extra confident

:36:08. > :36:13.on one. I sat there, went a good pace and had to get her to settle

:36:13. > :36:17.but she travelled extremely well and I was happy for Keiron to kick

:36:17. > :36:23.first and do him late. She's she's a very good filly on this ground

:36:23. > :36:26.and the temptation was to run her in the Irish Leger but she wasn't

:36:27. > :36:32.quite herself and again the trainer showed great patience and produced

:36:32. > :36:35.her in tip-top shape. Is the ground getting any worse? It's going to

:36:35. > :36:39.get worse no, question, but maybe later in the day they might go

:36:39. > :36:42.further off the inside rail to avoid what's been chewed up there.

:36:42. > :36:46.No getting way from the fact that it's testing ground. That's why

:36:46. > :36:50.this filly comes into her own. She's won three time this is year

:36:50. > :36:56.on deep ground, so that'll tell you. What a great day it's been. Well

:36:56. > :37:01.done. A special day. Well done. I hope it will be a special day for

:37:01. > :37:07.Henry Cecil. Very pleased to see him here at the races. There was a

:37:07. > :37:13.big dinner at Windsor Castle last night for people involved in Qipco.

:37:13. > :37:19.His wife was there. But Henry going through chemo as he has to do

:37:19. > :37:23.generally and, by his own admission, not feeling 100%, but here because

:37:23. > :37:27.Frankel, his star horse, is making what may or may not be his final

:37:27. > :37:33.appearance on a racecourse. That is an interesting question as well.

:37:33. > :37:37.Will they decide and could Khalid Abdullah announce today that

:37:37. > :37:40.Frankel will stay in training as a five-year-old? That would be

:37:40. > :37:46.seasonisational. There is a strong argument that they don't reach

:37:46. > :37:55.their peak until they are five. very true. It's the norm to send

:37:55. > :37:59.champions like Frankel off to stud because they can earn so much more

:37:59. > :38:07.money than they can racing. But there is a big but here. Henry

:38:07. > :38:13.Cescle, as we could see there, -- Cecil, as we could see there, if he

:38:13. > :38:18.says to Prince Khalid, I would love to train this horse next year,

:38:18. > :38:22.he'll go. Whatever he says goes? Yes. Wouldn't you if you were Henry

:38:22. > :38:26.say that? They are both getting hold, prince Khalid and Henry. They

:38:26. > :38:31.are never going to have a horse like this ever again, so why not

:38:31. > :38:34.enjoy him on the racecourse. That's what we all do. Then there's Prince

:38:34. > :38:39.Khalid who's said, he's not my horse any more, he's the public's

:38:39. > :38:44.horse, so maybe that'll just influence a little bit to keep him

:38:44. > :38:48.in training. But we know that the horse could go off to stud and make

:38:48. > :38:53.fortunes, but Prince Khalid, I believe he's a billionaire, does he

:38:53. > :38:56.need the money? Would he rather have the pleasure of seeing his

:38:56. > :39:00.horse run? I would think there is a big chance he might stay in

:39:00. > :39:04.training. When your horse is a gelding, rather than a colt, there

:39:04. > :39:12.is no decision to make because you can't send them to stud. One of the

:39:12. > :39:17.horses that has the ability to win this last year is a gelding that's

:39:17. > :39:22.not allowed to run in the Arc de Triomphe. It's one of the

:39:23. > :39:29.peculiaritys of that. And a gelding can't run in the gold Cup as well

:39:29. > :39:34.unless they've changed that. That can't be right - I don't think

:39:34. > :39:41.that's true. Well... I don't think that's true because Rite Of Passage

:39:41. > :39:51.is a gelding and he won it a few years ago. Geldings can't run in

:39:51. > :39:52.

:39:52. > :40:02.the Ark for definite. Olivier Peslier there closes down a

:40:02. > :40:09.Japanese horse. Peslier won the Ark for the fourth time. Look at him

:40:09. > :40:14.celebrating in this extraordinary race.

:40:14. > :40:19.The horse in front there, Japanese horse, he started to stop. He'd

:40:19. > :40:24.been at the front too long. The post script to that was that

:40:24. > :40:32.Peslier won the race and of course, you've got the other one put his

:40:32. > :40:42.hand out to say well done, but as he put his hand out, his horse took

:40:42. > :40:45.

:40:45. > :40:51.off. There was still petrol in the tank! That horse seems

:40:51. > :40:55.straightforward and he's the absolute pride of his trainers' eye.

:40:55. > :41:05.Mick Fitzgerald went to a beautiful training centre to find out more.

:41:05. > :41:18.

:41:18. > :41:28.We are here in picturesque home of this horse.

:41:28. > :41:36.

:41:36. > :41:44.relationship with him He's my best friend. What is she like? She is

:41:44. > :41:52.great, takes care of all the horses. He's been there for a long time.

:41:52. > :42:00.home, he's a friend and a cheeky friend. No, no. Here we are

:42:00. > :42:06.preparing him. What is it like for a relatively small stable taking on

:42:06. > :42:16.the might of Sir Henry Cecil, Khalid Abdullah? I said once, it's

:42:16. > :42:16.

:42:16. > :42:24.just like having a flying post, he puts his wings out like that, we go

:42:24. > :42:32.to Ascot and Dubai. This horse is not bred to be a superstar like

:42:32. > :42:42.Frankel? Sometimes you need just one horse for it to be the champion,

:42:42. > :42:48.

:42:48. > :42:54.Des Aigles? Yes, because now it's raining in England and he loves the

:42:54. > :43:04.ground like that, he knows the track and why not, you know. He's a

:43:04. > :43:14.champion, so then it's like the day of the champion in Ascot. Yes,, he

:43:14. > :43:17.can swim. Can Frankel? I don't know. Maybe on the night he will. If we

:43:17. > :43:23.beat Frankel, I wouldn't be so surprised as I think he's a

:43:23. > :43:31.tremendous horse. The thing is, the only way to know is to run them

:43:31. > :43:40.together. You are not scared? Eye yes, well no, we shouldn't be

:43:40. > :43:46.scared, if you are scared, you don't do.

:43:46. > :43:52.As you can see, on occasions, they are quite gentle giants, but they

:43:52. > :43:58.are very, very big and they can, as he showed there, have a mind of his

:43:58. > :44:03.own. We'll have a look at his most recent race at Longchamp, Ark

:44:03. > :44:07.weekend. He's about to take up the running, they use the long straight

:44:07. > :44:13.there, very bad ground like today and he absolutely pulverises the

:44:13. > :44:16.horses? To be honest, it looks like a piece of work for this horse.

:44:16. > :44:21.Looks like these other horses are mugs and they are not. This horse

:44:21. > :44:24.showed a liking for this surface. Looked in good health and they'll

:44:24. > :44:28.be delighted when they see everything else struggling today.

:44:28. > :44:32.He really can quicken on the sort of ground we've got today, so he is

:44:33. > :44:37.a real problem for Frankel today isn't he? Absolutely. The fact he

:44:37. > :44:47.revels in conditions swings things very much in his favour. Cirrus Des

:44:47. > :44:51.Aigles, the great horse from France, trained by Corin Barbe, there.

:44:51. > :44:58.We'll look back at him playing up at home again the other day. This

:44:58. > :45:04.must be the pocket Corin keeps the polos in, because he wants to get

:45:04. > :45:14.in She was keen to keep it shut, but unfortunately, for Corin, he

:45:14. > :45:30.

:45:30. > :45:35.major dangerers. This is two years ago to the start of two equine

:45:35. > :45:41.superstars - Frankel and Nathaniel. It is amazing they turned out to be

:45:41. > :45:50.such good horses. This is their first visit to the racecourse.

:45:50. > :45:55.Languishing at the back is Colour Vision, who ran today. It shows the

:45:55. > :46:00.length and depth.Logical did we though that Frankel would go on to

:46:00. > :46:06.do what he's done, and the same with Nathaniel. And Nathaniel stay

:46:06. > :46:12.as lot further than this mile and a quarter. He won't be scared to take

:46:12. > :46:17.on, if the Frankel team want a slow gallop, his young rider won't be

:46:17. > :46:21.scared to take him on will he? That's for sure. Another

:46:21. > :46:27.interesting thing about looking at that maiden at Newmarket was how

:46:27. > :46:32.soft the ground was that day. It will give you some koft that he

:46:32. > :46:37.will be able to handle the -- give you some comfort that he will be

:46:37. > :46:40.able to handle the soft conditions today. And next is the Queen

:46:40. > :46:47.Elizabeth II Stakes Sponsored by QIPCO. Her Majesty the Queen is

:46:47. > :46:51.making her way to the paddock. She has a runner in the race. Perhaps

:46:51. > :46:57.the Duke of York will have the do the duties of presenting the trophy

:46:57. > :47:01.if this horse, Carlton House, is successful. Teen Queen can't

:47:01. > :47:10.present a trophy to herself. That would be quite funny. Carlton House

:47:10. > :47:14.needs to bounce back. He's got masses of ability and one would

:47:14. > :47:24.hope he runs extremely well. Up next is the Queen Elizabeth II

:47:24. > :47:24.

:47:24. > :48:45.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 61 seconds

:48:45. > :48:50.mile on a straight course. betting market with Dave Yeates.

:48:50. > :48:56.Excelebration himself is an exceptionally good race hours isn't

:48:56. > :49:03.he. Put it into context how good he is. Excelebration was beaten on his

:49:03. > :49:08.debut in Nottingham in May a couple of years ago. Since then he's

:49:08. > :49:16.unbeaten except when he has raced against Frankel.

:49:16. > :49:25.He was beaten into second place by Frankel in this race 12 months ago,

:49:25. > :49:33.at the Lockinge in May, and when Frankel thumped everyone in the

:49:33. > :49:38.Royal Ascot. If that mating between Galileo and the mare hasn't taken

:49:38. > :49:43.place... It puts into context what a good horse Excelebration is.

:49:43. > :49:47.Ground-wise it is alright for him do you think? It seems it is soft

:49:47. > :49:50.but not particularly extreme. Fingers crossed. It would be very

:49:50. > :49:54.surprising I think if conditions were too soft for Frankel. I think

:49:54. > :50:03.he will be fine this afternoon. if he wins it will be 4-0 to

:50:03. > :50:11.Ireland. Her Majesty the Queen has now been

:50:11. > :50:15.joined by Ryan Moore. John Warren who advises Her Majesty on

:50:15. > :50:19.bloodstock. And Michael stout smiling and laughing away and

:50:20. > :50:25.hopefully convincing everyone that Carlton House would be well suited

:50:25. > :50:30.to the mile here. We know he stays that far. He was third in the Derby

:50:30. > :50:35.as a three-year-old. Now four years old, he's bigger and stronger. This

:50:35. > :50:39.could be his big day. Were he successful today it would be the

:50:39. > :50:47.Queen's first Group 1 winner in this country since her Silver

:50:47. > :50:56.Jubilee year in 1977. This is a hot race. Plenty of competition. Over

:50:56. > :51:01.here we could the Coolmore teamened and here is one of the co-owners of

:51:01. > :51:05.the horse, Excelebration, his record is so connistent and would

:51:05. > :51:11.be even better if he hadn't come up against Frankel. There is no

:51:11. > :51:17.Frankel in the race today. I would expect Aidan O'Brien is excited

:51:17. > :51:24.about this race. Absolutely. He hasn't run in a while but I'm

:51:24. > :51:31.looking forward to it. How excited are you at watching Frankel later?

:51:31. > :51:36.He's the most incredible horse that any of us have seen. We hope it all

:51:36. > :51:41.goes well for him. We wish you well in this race.

:51:41. > :51:45.William Buick here rides Elusive Kate, the only filly in the race.

:51:45. > :51:52.It is an exciting thing for John Gosden to suggest to the owners

:51:52. > :51:56.that they do. All well? Yes, good thanks. I've never seen the place

:51:56. > :52:00.so filled up. It is humming, all in anticipation of this race but

:52:00. > :52:05.particularly the next. People are getting into their position so they

:52:05. > :52:09.can see Frankel when he comes into the paddock for the next race. When

:52:09. > :52:13.the Queen came in, she was applauded. I suspect Frankel will

:52:14. > :52:19.be applauded as soon as he comes into the paddock. The jockeys are

:52:19. > :52:24.making their way to get a leg-up. It feels excited and buzzy. I'm

:52:24. > :52:27.sure the horses are feeling that excitement as well.

:52:27. > :52:33.Willie, you were remarking about the number of people watching.

:52:33. > :52:39.Quite a few of them have shouting for you as well. You can see all

:52:39. > :52:45.the way round the paddock, there's hardly any empty spaces. Right the

:52:45. > :52:51.way round the whole of the paddock, even at the royal meeting we don't

:52:51. > :52:57.get that amount of people. Hiya, you OK? Jamie alright? He's fine,

:52:57. > :53:00.he's happy, Mr Spencer. We were looking at the main contenders for

:53:00. > :53:04.the QE2. Excelebration looks marvellous. A true professional. He

:53:04. > :53:12.is walking around here nice. He looks in very good order. The one

:53:12. > :53:18.animal that looks very hot is the filly. Elusive Kate. Number eight.

:53:18. > :53:23.She is sweating up and the sweat is dripping off your underside. This

:53:23. > :53:32.is quite usual, because fillys grow their coats quicker then the autumn

:53:32. > :53:37.comes. In the colder weather, the winds get colder. A filly will

:53:37. > :53:42.sweat more than a colt. Because her coat doesn't look long, they didn't

:53:42. > :53:48.clip her, but obviously it is thicker than a colt's coat, so she

:53:48. > :53:52.is going to be walking around. As they get excited, she's is going to

:53:52. > :53:56.South West. It is not a big negative but it might be a little

:53:56. > :54:00.one. She is a danger to Excelebration. The other two,

:54:00. > :54:07.Carlton House, and Cityscape. Carlton House, we are finally going

:54:07. > :54:14.to see him without a rug in a second. Your thoughts seeing him

:54:14. > :54:19.now Willie? Meek el has just taken the rug off, thank you. He is just

:54:19. > :54:26.starting to jig-jog slightly, but we've seen him in a worse state

:54:26. > :54:32.than this in the past. He looks possibly cooler... And we were

:54:32. > :54:39.talking about you riding his mum, Talented, in 1993. In Newmarket.

:54:39. > :54:44.The Sun Chariot Stakes. Her mother. And she went to Sheikh Mohammed.

:54:45. > :54:49.Sheikh Mohammed made this horse a present to Her Majesty the Queen.

:54:49. > :54:55.The horse just behind Charlie Tokyo is Cityscape, the chestnut.

:54:55. > :55:00.flashy colour. A lot of white comes from his stallion, Selkirk. He

:55:00. > :55:03.looks in very good owner. He is in the colours of... Frankel. Exactly.

:55:03. > :55:08.So can Frankel's colours have a double? I don't think. So I think

:55:08. > :55:11.the first four races here today are going to go Irish. So you think

:55:11. > :55:21.Excelebration is going to win? think Excelebration is the one they

:55:21. > :55:22.

:55:22. > :55:26.all have to beat. I would indeed. He would have won 11 races if...

:55:26. > :55:31.Ten out of 11 races if Frankel hadn't been this the race. He's

:55:31. > :55:35.finished second to Frankel five times. It's a tough ask being up

:55:35. > :55:42.against Frankel. But he hasn't got any Frankel in this race. Good luck

:55:42. > :55:50.to Excelebration, without Frankel. Thinks the first of two Group 1

:55:50. > :55:54.race which is will bring to a close our coverage on BBC One. They are

:55:54. > :55:58.parading in front of the Grandstand, which adds to the test. Carlton

:55:58. > :56:05.House leads in the colours of Her Majesty the Queen, with Ryan Moore

:56:05. > :56:14.on board. He is able at 7-1. Sir Michael Stoute has won this

:56:14. > :56:21.race three times. Last time in 1989. Playing up a little is Cityscape.

:56:21. > :56:25.James Doyle sitting tight. Such an exciting new find, James Doyle, in

:56:25. > :56:35.terms of the jockeys' ranks. He won a Group 1 race this Dubai at the

:56:35. > :56:36.

:56:36. > :56:40.start of the year. Here is our favourite, 6-1 on, Excelebration.

:56:40. > :56:46.And this is a horse that when Frankel is not around he tend to

:56:46. > :56:52.win. Another one playing up slightly is Indomito. The cameraman

:56:52. > :56:59.had better watch out there. Tom Queally. This is his last ride.

:56:59. > :57:07.There's Side Glance, a 20-1 shot. Has been running consistently

:57:07. > :57:12.without managing to get his head in front of late, but he will do well.

:57:12. > :57:22.Jimmy Fortune on board. In the colours of the Qatari family who

:57:22. > :57:26.

:57:26. > :57:31.sponsor this day. Our champion- jockey elect, Richard Hughes.

:57:31. > :57:40.Sovereign Debt, Jamie Spencer riding for Michael bell. A 25-1

:57:40. > :57:49.shot. He likes Ascot actually. He's won his first two starts here. And

:57:49. > :57:55.as we go right back we will find Elusive Kate and William Buick. The

:57:55. > :57:59.filly was a little bit warm in the paddock before-hand but looks

:57:59. > :58:02.relaxed now. They head to the start of the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

:58:02. > :58:06.Sponsored by QIPCO. It is the climax of the mile series of

:58:06. > :58:13.British Champions Day. And there is the start, way down there. The

:58:13. > :58:17.stalls, Willie, on the rail. Yes. Usually they put the stalls in the

:58:17. > :58:21.middle, but they've elected to put the stalls on the stand side, which

:58:21. > :58:27.I think is the best place for them, especially in a small field where

:58:27. > :58:33.all the horses will have the rail to keep them straight and help

:58:33. > :58:38.jockeys and hopefully it will sort of get a true run race. You got

:58:38. > :58:44.Side Glance there. The only runner on the day for QIPCO, the sponsors.

:58:44. > :58:49.Hopefully that will give them a big run. How is Andrew Balding's horse

:58:49. > :58:54.going to run? He's won the best turned out.

:58:54. > :59:00.Excelebration looking lovely. beautiful horse this. A deep girth.

:59:00. > :59:04.He's such a professional horse. I feel a little bit sorry for him

:59:04. > :59:11.to be second to Frankel all those times. Luckily they are half an

:59:11. > :59:16.hour apart today. In the pre-Parade Ring Mick Fitzgerald is there. A

:59:16. > :59:21.big crowd already awaiting Frankel. It is unbelievable Clare. Normally

:59:21. > :59:25.when you've got a Group 1 about to start, it is deserted, everybody is

:59:25. > :59:30.trying to get a vantage point, but all eyes are focused there, as

:59:30. > :59:37.everybody wants a look at Frankel. I asked people why are they here,

:59:37. > :59:42.is it purely to see Frankel? Hello? Hello. Are you here to see Frankel?

:59:42. > :59:47.Exactly. A good position for a good photograph. Do you want to be able

:59:47. > :59:52.to tell your grand kids, "I saw Frankel?" I suppose so. I'm not

:59:52. > :59:56.looking that far ahead! There's a Group 1 about to start. Are you not

:59:56. > :00:00.bothered about that? Are you worried just about Frankel? Today

:00:00. > :00:10.was really about seeing Frankel. I would loved to have seen Carlton

:00:10. > :00:21.

:00:21. > :00:29.House and the rest, it is really People want to stay there and see

:00:29. > :00:34.the runners for the Champion Stakes. All these people around the paddock,

:00:34. > :00:41.there is a fantastic race out front, but they are staying in the paddock

:00:41. > :00:51.so they don't lose their spot to see the great Frankel. Talk me

:00:51. > :00:55.

:00:55. > :01:00.through Cityscape. He looks like Selkirk. Yes. Selkirk was a goofy

:01:00. > :01:05.horse and Cityscape does this thing with his tongue as well and swings

:01:05. > :01:10.his head around to see the other horses. So you think he's blind

:01:10. > :01:13.then? No, he's fun. I'm not saying he's blind. The guy sitting on top

:01:14. > :01:19.of this horse, James Doyle, has a lot to thank this horse for,

:01:19. > :01:25.because this is the horse that propelled him into this job riding

:01:25. > :01:29.for Roger Charlton. This will be his favourite horse in life because

:01:29. > :01:34.it's the horse that basically made James. Of course, he has, you know,

:01:34. > :01:41.sort of blossomed ever since he won that big race in Dubai on this

:01:41. > :01:46.horse. Those are the colours of King Abdullah. They've been

:01:46. > :01:52.successful in this race, he's won it with known fact with observatory

:01:52. > :01:55.and Frankel last year? Yes. I won this race... Loads of time, like

:01:55. > :02:02.seven times or something. I think you have got that wrong, Claire.

:02:02. > :02:12.How many times? Eight! And second twice. I apologise, I was wrong.

:02:12. > :02:25.

:02:25. > :02:31.This is my last show, I can say the Hughes believes in him, doesn't he?

:02:31. > :02:39.Yes, and his style of riding is not always the best way of riding,

:02:39. > :02:43.given other horses rope, you know. Because on this straight course, it

:02:43. > :02:48.won't be as bad as on the round course. There's Her Majesty the

:02:48. > :02:52.Queen's horse, he is not getting as upset as he normally does, he's a

:02:52. > :02:56.lot cooler today. Possibly he'll run a better race. He's let us down

:02:56. > :03:03.in the past, will he do the same again today? We don't know.

:03:03. > :03:07.hasn't let you down. Well, he has. There's ma'am sitting there. Sorry,

:03:07. > :03:10.one more thing I meant to say about Most Improved. He won the St

:03:10. > :03:15.James's Palace here over the same course and distance in June? Yes,

:03:15. > :03:18.and this is the horse they backed for a lot of money to win the 2000

:03:18. > :03:23.Guineas on his home reputation. Cityscape goes forward.

:03:23. > :03:33.Excelebration, the odds on favourite will be the last one.

:03:33. > :03:40.tingling, Claire, tingling. Control yourself! Carlton House very

:03:40. > :03:44.restless. Off in and running. Elusive Kate. Cityscape.

:03:44. > :03:50.Excelebration. Settling on the near side with the purple cap in behind

:03:50. > :03:55.Elusive Kate as they pass the seven, they are followed by Side Glance

:03:55. > :04:00.and further back, Carlton House has some cover today.

:04:00. > :04:05.Followed by Most Improved. Indomito. Out the back, Sovereign Debt.

:04:05. > :04:10.Elusive Kate the leader by a length and a half to second. Side Glance.

:04:10. > :04:16.Excelebration with the run of the race. Cityscape. Further back, it's

:04:16. > :04:21.Most Improved on the far side as they pass the five. Followed by

:04:21. > :04:27.Carlton House. Red sleeves in the centre, followed by Sovereign Debt

:04:27. > :04:37.and Indomito. The leader is Elusive Kate. Kate Kate a Kate on the near

:04:37. > :04:39.

:04:39. > :04:45.side rail from Side Glance and Side Glance -- Cityscape.

:04:45. > :04:50.Indomito. Further back Sovereign Debt. Just over two furlongs to go

:04:50. > :04:55.and it's Elusive Kate on the near side. Cityscape. Carlton House is

:04:55. > :05:04.weaving his way through. Excelebration there now. Very

:05:04. > :05:09.easily on the far side. Cityscape. Excelebration. Now he says go and

:05:09. > :05:16.Excelebration coming away. He's gone, three, four lengths in front.

:05:16. > :05:20.It's his day today. Excelebration! A brilliant winner of the QEII.

:05:20. > :05:24.Second Cityscape, third Elusive Kate. Followed further back by

:05:24. > :05:32.Carlton House and Side Glance. Followed by Sovereign Debt and

:05:32. > :05:38.Indomito and Most Improved is last. Without Frankel, this horse would

:05:38. > :05:45.be enjoying a collection. If connections would also be enjoying

:05:45. > :05:48.a collection of Group Is. He's had to come up against Frankel five

:05:48. > :05:53.times I think it is and he's been beaten by the wonder horse. Look

:05:53. > :06:00.what he does d us to the opposition today. He's beaten Cityscape very

:06:00. > :06:04.easily and then another five or six lengths to Elusive Kate. Followed

:06:04. > :06:11.by Carlton House. Then Sovereign Debt on the near side. Followed by

:06:11. > :06:20.Side Glance in the maroon. A gap then and Indomito. Then a long gap

:06:20. > :06:25.to the one still coming. There is Joseph O'Brien. And the horse he's

:06:25. > :06:30.come up against so many times, here he is, Frankel. Look at the crowd

:06:30. > :06:33.around. Don't forget, we've just seen a Group I race, but these

:06:33. > :06:39.people stayed around the pre-parade ring so they could get a position

:06:39. > :06:45.to see this horse, Frankel. Such is the drawing power of this

:06:45. > :06:51.magnificent horse. He has an unbeaten record, 13 from 13. He

:06:51. > :06:54.puts it on the line in the next hour for Qipco Champion Stakes.

:06:54. > :07:02.Excelebration will be glad he's seen the back of Frankel today. An

:07:02. > :07:12.opportunity to show us what he could do. 142.33. Now, let us have

:07:12. > :07:37.

:07:37. > :07:47.back in front of the very big crowd. 32,000 sell out here for Qipco

:07:47. > :07:49.

:07:49. > :07:58.champions day. 5.17 seconds outside the record which was held by

:07:58. > :08:04.Invisible Man. There's no Frankel in the race

:08:04. > :08:10.today. Excelebration - what a class horse he is! To beat this class

:08:10. > :08:15.field by this far so easily. He gets beat by the great Frankel 11

:08:15. > :08:25.lengths last time out, so what a horse Frankel is. Look at how easy

:08:25. > :08:26.

:08:26. > :08:29.this horse is going. He was patient and not panicking. In this ground,

:08:29. > :08:34.the gaps will come, because horses get tire and will drop back through

:08:34. > :08:41.the field. He only had to shake the reins at him and whoosh. Yes,

:08:41. > :08:48.unbelievable. That is Joseph's fifth group I winner in this

:08:48. > :08:52.country this season. Looking across at the big screen there, in a group

:08:52. > :08:56.I race, it doesn't matter how far you win, but it was looking across

:08:56. > :09:00.there saying, I don't need to use my stick, he was looking across

:09:00. > :09:06.there saying I don't need to use my stick. Ears pricked, jockey well

:09:06. > :09:11.balanced, stick down the side and he's just won a Group I race by a

:09:11. > :09:15.long margin and that horse, I'm sure he was looking at everywhere,

:09:15. > :09:18.looked sideways for those colours of Frankel. But they weren't there

:09:18. > :09:22.today! Again, a huge compliment to Frankel

:09:23. > :09:31.that even though Excelebration was getting beaten roundly by him last

:09:31. > :09:35.year, that he was bought. The buyers thought he was a good horse?

:09:35. > :09:39.Frankel is just from Mars or somewhere. The fanfare's going to

:09:39. > :09:43.go for you, Clare, right at this moment. So you will be able to get

:09:43. > :09:51.ready for doing your usual very nice announcement.

:09:51. > :09:53.Thank you very much. One quick look at Frankel before we concentrate on

:09:53. > :10:00.Excelebration coming in to celebrate.

:10:00. > :10:04.What a lovely head. Yes. Do you think he knows?

:10:04. > :10:11.wonder what that horse is thinking, all these people looking at me, why

:10:11. > :10:16.are they all looking at me? He's not just a racehorse, and that's

:10:16. > :10:20.why they're here. Frankel to come. His race due off

:10:20. > :10:30.at 4.05 but all the build-up coming here on BBC One before we

:10:30. > :10:37.

:10:37. > :10:39.concentrate on him though, let's May it please, your Majesty, my

:10:39. > :10:42.Lords, ladies and gentlemen, we have witnessed an exceptional

:10:42. > :10:47.performance to win the Queen Elizabeth II stakes from a horse

:10:47. > :10:51.who really deserved his moment in the limelight, so often he's had to

:10:51. > :10:56.play second fiddle to Frankel. Today, it is about Excelebration,

:10:56. > :11:06.he's led in by his co-owner Derek Smith, ridden by Joseph O'Brien,

:11:06. > :11:09.

:11:09. > :11:19.trained by Aidan O'Brien. He is the winner of the QEII, Excelebration.

:11:19. > :11:20.

:11:20. > :11:26.And the win there for Excelebration. He now wins the Queen Elizabeth II

:11:26. > :11:34.Stakes here at Ascot. A fine win. A brilliant win. And it's four out of

:11:34. > :11:42.four for Irish stables here on British Champions Day. Four out of

:11:42. > :11:52.four. Aidan O'Brien. Joseph O'Brien in the colours of Derek Smith. This

:11:52. > :11:54.

:11:54. > :12:00.horse owned by Derek with the Magners and also another owner.

:12:00. > :12:10.Let's check the full result now of this Group I Queen Elizabeth II

:12:10. > :12:24.

:12:24. > :12:30.over and ran in the July Cup. Very disappointing. He didn't run his

:12:30. > :12:35.race there. Bought for a small fortune by Sheikh Mohammed's Darley

:12:35. > :12:41.operation. In a curious twist, those bloodlines are now in the

:12:41. > :12:51.hands of Coolmore through this horse, Excelebration.

:12:51. > :12:52.

:12:52. > :12:58.Very interesting between the super powers. And here's Sir Henry. Sir

:12:58. > :13:07.Henry Cecil talking to Tom Queally. Also Ian Mongan, who is going to

:13:07. > :13:11.play a very important role here. You can just see Ian obscured. He

:13:11. > :13:19.rides the pacemaker, Bullet Train, and it's crucial that he plays his

:13:19. > :13:25.part, because it has to be a decent enough pace that he has to get

:13:25. > :13:29.horses behind to actually believe that he's a credible challenger, a

:13:29. > :13:33.credible contestant and not to be ignored.

:13:33. > :13:43.Tom Queally on the right there listening to every word from Sir

:13:43. > :13:44.

:13:44. > :13:49.Henry. Tactics even in a six-runner race. In fact, more so in a six-

:13:49. > :13:55.runner race, are absolutely crucial. Meanwhile, there's Excelebration,

:13:56. > :13:59.Joseph O'Brien, the winning jockey. And down in the winners enclosure

:13:59. > :14:03.is Rishi. Many congratulations to the winning

:14:03. > :14:06.trainer, Aidan O'Brien. Just deskraib your thoughts on that

:14:06. > :14:12.performance today from Excelebration -- describe? We are

:14:13. > :14:17.delighted, Rishi. He's been working brilliant. He's an awful lot of

:14:17. > :14:22.speed and class. Joseph was very confident in him today. I guess his

:14:22. > :14:27.work has been very good, you know. He's getting heavier all the time.

:14:27. > :14:30.A lot of speed and a lot of class. He had a very hard race here at the

:14:30. > :14:35.Royal meeting behind Frankel. How difficult was it to get him back to

:14:35. > :14:39.his best after that? The lads did a great job with him at home. Rob and

:14:39. > :14:43.Andrew and Jimmy, everybody involved with him have done a great

:14:43. > :14:50.job. I suppose we rode him different that day, we rode him for

:14:50. > :14:55.stamina more so than speed. Joseph came in that day and said, listen,

:14:55. > :14:59.he'd rather take his time and ride him different and that's what he

:14:59. > :15:04.did. We've probably learnt a lot. He's really progressing. Before I

:15:04. > :15:09.have a quick word with Joseph, is he going to the Breeders' Cup mile?

:15:09. > :15:13.I think that's what was in their mind before here, so I suppose if

:15:13. > :15:20.he's OK and if everybody's happy with that, I think that's where Le

:15:20. > :15:24.might be going -- where he might be going. Joseph, how good a

:15:24. > :15:27.performance was that Great. He's improving with racing and age and

:15:27. > :15:32.he's an exceptional horse, the ground makes no difference to him.

:15:32. > :15:37.A firm ground, soft ground today, it makes no difference to him and

:15:37. > :15:42.he's a lot of pace and he's a seven furlong horse with a lot of speed

:15:42. > :15:46.and gets a mile on his ear. A lots of time people talk about Frankel

:15:46. > :15:50.and how good he is. When we've seen Excelebration do what he did to a

:15:50. > :15:56.class field today, you get some idea of what Frankel's been beating

:15:56. > :16:01.all year long? Yes, exactly. Obviously our lad is an exceltional

:16:01. > :16:06.horse and has run some very consistent horses. I've probably

:16:06. > :16:10.sacrificed him against Frankel. My horse has been ridden for speed, as

:16:10. > :16:16.you have seen today and we have learnt that throughout the year.

:16:16. > :16:19.Obviously, I nearly got him out for a second during the year from

:16:19. > :16:29.trying to beat Frankel. I would have been closer to him other than

:16:29. > :16:39.

:16:39. > :16:46.that, but Frankel is a great horse She ran well. Her first run of the

:16:46. > :16:53.year. She probably needed to run a bit. I'm very happy with her.

:16:53. > :16:58.Hopefully she will do better next time. And she's off to Hong Kong I

:16:58. > :17:03.believe? Yes. Sovereign Debt normally starts early. Cityscape

:17:03. > :17:09.just lose his footing a little as the stalls open, but nothing much

:17:09. > :17:13.to worry about. No, it was pretty good start. They went slow for the

:17:13. > :17:19.first part of the race. William Buick came to the rail and they all

:17:19. > :17:24.followed him. It looked like they were going slow because a lot of

:17:24. > :17:29.horses weren't keen. He didn't run that great a race. Carlton House

:17:29. > :17:34.settled. In July he pulled fiercely didn't he? He did. He did settle

:17:34. > :17:41.well enough in a slowly-run race. That's materialy stages. Cityscape

:17:41. > :17:46.with the white face was the eventual runner-up on the left. Now

:17:46. > :17:52.the closing stages there. Is the winner, Excelebration. He is tucked

:17:52. > :18:00.against the rails. They did group round him for a shade didn't they?

:18:00. > :18:04.They - but as soon as Joseph eased him out, when he asked him to go at

:18:04. > :18:10.the furlong pole the response was immediate. He put the race to bed

:18:10. > :18:14.pretty quick. He quickened up well and that is what a top miler does.

:18:14. > :18:20.If it hadn't been for Frankel we would have been calling him one of

:18:20. > :18:27.the best milers for years I dare safe. Very impressive today.

:18:27. > :18:31.Cityscape won -- won't run again this season. You stayed on the

:18:31. > :18:36.watch Frankel. One of the best horses you've ever seen? He's owned

:18:36. > :18:42.by a Prince and is trained by Prince Henry. Today is his crowning

:18:42. > :18:48.I think. Would you worry about the ground conditions? After watching

:18:48. > :18:55.that race I would be more confident than ever. Johnny, thank you. Henry

:18:55. > :19:02.Cecil was applauded as he walked from the Weighing Room with the

:19:02. > :19:09.saddle. He will put the finishing touches to a horse he's cared for

:19:09. > :19:13.so carefully. 13 races and 13 successes. Frankel there walking

:19:13. > :19:19.round the Pre-Parade Ring. Will shortly disappear into the saddling

:19:19. > :19:24.boxes. Let's reflect on the magnificence we've witnessed.

:19:24. > :19:32.For 300 years thoroughbred breeders have sought to create perfection in

:19:32. > :19:42.equine form. In February 2008, a son of Galileo, sire of champions

:19:42. > :19:43.

:19:43. > :19:47.and Derby winner himself, became the latest pretend tore that crown.

:19:47. > :19:54.A miracle horse christened Frankel, after a cherished American trainer

:19:54. > :20:01.who never saw his namesake run, but whose memory lives on.

:20:01. > :20:07.A few weeks short of his second year, Frankel joined Henry Cecil at

:20:07. > :20:14.Warren Place and a partnership was born. An equine blue blood with a

:20:14. > :20:21.heart and will to run and a stride to tear any race apart. Trained by

:20:21. > :20:27.every racing romantic starling - darling, a legend himself, sailing

:20:27. > :20:37.on his second wind. Frankel's maid inrace introduced Tom Queally, the

:20:37. > :20:41.

:20:41. > :20:48.Irish jockey who would partner Frankel every time he ran.

:20:48. > :20:54.Domination in a Dewhurst confirmed Frankel as Europe's undisputed

:20:54. > :20:58.champion two-year-old. COMMENTATOR: Frankel will maintain his unbeaten

:20:58. > :21:03.record! 2011, his second season, what was to be of Frankel in his

:21:03. > :21:10.classic campaign? He came to the 2000 Guineas unbeaten, five wins

:21:10. > :21:18.from five. And finished that sixth race immortal. COMMENTATOR: Frankel

:21:18. > :21:23.has pulverised them in the Guineas! Weeks later at Royal Ascot jockey

:21:23. > :21:31.error, Queally went too soon. And immortality was for the first time

:21:31. > :21:37.in question. If there was a point to prove at Glorious Goodwood, it

:21:37. > :21:42.was done in decisive style. Doubt was vanquished. Racing's new

:21:42. > :21:48.Emperor confirmed 2012, a presents to the people. Frankel would race

:21:48. > :21:58.as a four-year-old, and Frankel proved he was the greatest horse

:21:58. > :22:06.we've ever seen. Or would likely ever see. COMMENTATOR: It's all

:22:06. > :22:14.about one horse,, the superb, the spectacular Frankel. It's 13 out of

:22:14. > :22:18.13... Records have tumbled and superlatives poured. Those costly

:22:18. > :22:22.genes bequeathed by illustrious ancestors to their progeny have

:22:22. > :22:27.proved more than the sum of their parts. His value, whatever happens

:22:27. > :22:31.today works be a fitting ransom to a King, but in the eyes of all

:22:31. > :22:41.who've witnessed his record- breaking run and have shared his

:22:41. > :22:42.

:22:42. > :22:48.story, Frankel is priceless. And his story is history. Frankel,

:22:48. > :22:53.going into the saddling boxes. Lady Jane Cecil and Sir Henry will shut

:22:53. > :22:57.the door firmly on that and make sure that all is prepared perfectly

:22:57. > :23:02.for this extraordinary climax to the flat season. Tom Queally

:23:02. > :23:06.smiling there, looking very relaxed. Jimmy Fortune wishing him luck.

:23:06. > :23:10.What a thrill for him. He will have the chance to enjoy every moment,

:23:10. > :23:17.because we've got the day for it. It is at raining. He definitely

:23:17. > :23:26.runs. We have a field of six. The Queen is here and has been making a

:23:26. > :23:32.presentation to Joseph O'Brien. Aidan O'Brien trains Excelebration.

:23:32. > :23:37.The Queen making the presentation for the race named after her in her

:23:37. > :23:41.honour. Amazing that he won that so easily and yet we know that on all

:23:41. > :23:46.proven form Frankel would have been seven lengths in front of him. By

:23:46. > :23:56.the way the feature that you saw, the voice was that of Steven birk

:23:56. > :23:56.

:23:56. > :24:55.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 61 seconds

:24:55. > :25:00.off. The next voice you here is favourite.

:25:00. > :25:06.We are here in the Pre-Parade Ring. The amount of slebs, ordinary

:25:06. > :25:10.people who are here trying to get a look at the mighty Frankel. We've

:25:10. > :25:17.got royalty here. Madeleine Lloyd- Webber, everybody trying to get a

:25:17. > :25:22.close look at him and say, "I was there to see the mighty Frankel."

:25:22. > :25:28.And Ian Mongan on the left in the green cap will have his role to

:25:29. > :25:34.play in termings of -- in terms of setting the place for Tom Queally.

:25:34. > :25:38.Do you think he was saying, wait as late as you can before you push the

:25:38. > :25:42.button? I think there might have been discussion about where the

:25:42. > :25:48.pacemaker should be going into the first turn. Stay wide and maybe

:25:48. > :25:51.keep off the ground that's already poached. It could be something like

:25:51. > :25:56.that. Down at Swinley Bottom we've had two races round there and it

:25:56. > :26:03.might be churned up a little bit. Maybe they'll think of going

:26:03. > :26:11.slightly wider and keeping on fresh ground. It is just putting the Is

:26:11. > :26:21.and dotting the Ts, or crossing the Ts and dotting the Is. That's the

:26:21. > :26:22.

:26:22. > :26:25.way. They have had handled it so well, because all the camera lenses

:26:25. > :26:32.and everything has been on them. And it means that Cirrus Des Aigles

:26:32. > :26:36.and Nathaniel have rather slipped under the radar. They are seriously

:26:36. > :26:41.good racehorses. They are proper Group 1 horses. But this guy is

:26:41. > :26:46.just... Well, he's just different isn't he. You do know what it is

:26:46. > :26:50.yet that makes him so exceptional? No. He's a big, powerful horse.

:26:50. > :26:57.He's got a very long stride, but why he goes faster than the others

:26:57. > :27:01.is because he's got a giant heart and lungs that work very

:27:01. > :27:07.efficiently. We cannot look at this horse and say that is why he is

:27:07. > :27:12.faster than others. No. It is just he's a fine specimen. He's heavy,

:27:12. > :27:20.but you will get racehorses possibly that are better looking

:27:20. > :27:24.than him, classic looking race hourss, but this guy -- classic-

:27:24. > :27:30.looking racehorses, but this guy when he canters it is effortlets.

:27:30. > :27:37.His stride is effortless. When he is cantering other horses are flat

:27:37. > :27:43.out. The other thing that helps him, his temperament. And Tom is equally

:27:43. > :27:50.relaxed. The horse is so relaxed. He eats more and sleeps more.

:27:50. > :27:54.pounds of oats. And he sleeps more than any horse Sir Henry has ever

:27:54. > :27:59.known. He obviously uses his energy in a proper manner. All racing

:27:59. > :28:04.people keep looking at him and try to learn something from this horse.

:28:04. > :28:08.Those that have their position in the Pre-Parade Ring are taking

:28:08. > :28:13.their photos of Frankel. Shortly he be going through the tunnel and

:28:13. > :28:17.coming into the paddock, where I expect him to receive a rousing

:28:17. > :28:23.round of applause. We've been at places where that happens, at

:28:23. > :28:28.Cheltenham for example. Very rarely does a flat racehorse, because they

:28:28. > :28:34.are not round long enough to capture the attention, very rarely

:28:34. > :28:37.does this horse get this sort of warmth. Affection. Yes. When he was

:28:37. > :28:40.in the 2000 Guineas the public started clapping this horse two

:28:40. > :28:46.furlongs from home. That's never been known before. I was there and

:28:46. > :28:52.I couldn't believe it. People just started clapping, because he was

:28:52. > :28:56.15-20 lengths in front of the rest of the field. This was a Group 1

:28:56. > :29:00.classic race. The 2000 Guineas. He made into it a procession. There'll

:29:00. > :29:04.be no announcement that he is coming into the paddock, so this

:29:05. > :29:09.will happen organically. People know she number three and they know

:29:09. > :29:14.what he looks like. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE They are all

:29:14. > :29:18.starting to clap. I hope they don't clap too much. It is respect as

:29:18. > :29:23.well as affection. And so many people that have come racing today

:29:23. > :29:29.have made a journey from a long way away because they want too see any

:29:29. > :29:33.more in the flesh, to watch him race, to feel the buzz. The lead

:29:33. > :29:36.horse has his head in the air listening to the crowd. Look at him,

:29:36. > :29:42.head down, he doesn't care. You can see the difference the two horses.

:29:42. > :29:52.One up in the air worrying about the clapping. And himself head down,

:29:52. > :30:03.

:30:03. > :30:07.ears pricked, absolutely taking this question mark, you know, is

:30:07. > :30:12.this the last time we'll see him or could we see him again thex year,

:30:12. > :30:20.is that too much to hope for? I think whatever happens, we have to

:30:21. > :30:25.enjoy this afternoon. -- next year. Looking at this horse walking

:30:25. > :30:31.around the paddock so relaxed, people clapping and waving him,

:30:31. > :30:37.waving race cards at him and he's taking it all in very well indeed.

:30:37. > :30:44.If I was Henry Cecil, I would be so proud of how this horse is behaving.

:30:44. > :30:51.You can see him looking at the horse. He's worrying about how he's

:30:51. > :30:56.going to take it all in, but Henry is taking it well. All the jockeys

:30:56. > :31:05.are making sure they can get a view of him in the paddock. Everyone's

:31:05. > :31:13.taking photos, they all want their own personal snapshot of this horse.

:31:13. > :31:18.They've got Frankel pallets. This beats the paddock when the great

:31:18. > :31:24.black carvier went round, everyone wanted to see her, but this is even

:31:24. > :31:29.bigger and she was a worldwide superstar. So now we have a great

:31:29. > :31:38.superstar, an English superstar, in Frankel. The bell tolls, meaning

:31:38. > :31:46.the jockeys can get on board this - the horses. It's up to them. Any

:31:46. > :31:56.decision now is down to Tom quooly. The biggest challenger is this

:31:56. > :31:58.

:31:58. > :32:03.gelding trained by Corin Barbe who treating him like a pet. -- Tom

:32:03. > :32:09.Queally. He beat Nathaniel and Snow Fairy last year in that race so he

:32:09. > :32:14.has absolutely got the form to give this the great Frankel something to

:32:14. > :32:23.think about. That's the way he won last time at Lang champ, he does a

:32:23. > :32:30.Frankel by winning by so far and so easy. Whatever Frankel does today,

:32:30. > :32:34.he's got serious horses against him. Yes, Cirrus Des Aigles, the second

:32:34. > :32:38.highest rated horse in the world but the highest rated is this horse.

:32:38. > :32:43.The other question is could he become the highest rated of all-

:32:43. > :32:48.time? Dancing Brave holds that mark. The magical number in terms of

:32:48. > :32:53.ratings of horses is 141. This horse currently on 140, which he's

:32:53. > :33:01.run to twice. A lot of people take on a lot of things about what

:33:01. > :33:04.horses get rated to, but I can remember that there was a horse

:33:04. > :33:08.always beaten. Old Vic was rated more than Nashvan and it doesn't

:33:08. > :33:11.always go. Whatever the facts and figures, I was talking about

:33:11. > :33:15.Frankel this morning on the radio and I said what he does to you,

:33:15. > :33:19.it's not about the head, it's about the heart, it's the way he wins his

:33:19. > :33:25.races, it's the way he composes himself, the power that he has, you

:33:25. > :33:31.know, the way you go away thinking... Authority against other

:33:31. > :33:36.horses? Yes and that's emotional, it's not rational. He gets up close

:33:36. > :33:41.to another horse and he sort of, I don't know if there's any horse

:33:41. > :33:46.noises gone between them or signs but other horses just are in awe of

:33:46. > :33:54.this guy. He just eye balls them and glides away from them and it's

:33:54. > :33:59.so effortless. Everything he does is effortless. The horses who we

:33:59. > :34:04.know by past experience have won Group I races and are very good

:34:04. > :34:09.horses - we have just had one, Excelebration, who won the quech

:34:10. > :34:19.EII today by an easy margin. -- QEII. Excelebration can't get this

:34:20. > :34:32.

:34:32. > :34:38.been his job, to set a decent pace, Bullet Train, and wait for Frankel

:34:38. > :34:42.to come up. He might as well be 10,000 to 1.

:34:42. > :34:48.Cirrus Des Aigles, the second highest rated horse in the world.

:34:48. > :34:53.The only gelding in the field. Massively improved. Won three Group

:34:53. > :35:00.Is in that time. We don't think he's a patch on Frankel. Any time

:35:00. > :35:05.he's come up against what we think is a decent horse, he's made them

:35:05. > :35:09.look ordinary. This horse isn't turning a hair and there is a

:35:09. > :35:18.massive crowd there and there is a buzz around the place. Look at the

:35:18. > :35:25.crowd there. Upstairs, middle. Oh! Haven't seen a racecourse like this

:35:25. > :35:30.for years. 74 and a half lengths is his aggregate. Ryan Moore on board

:35:30. > :35:34.this one, Master Of Hounds. Hasn't run on ground as soft as this.

:35:34. > :35:38.Nathaniel - now, Nathaniel is a proper racehorse. We know that over

:35:38. > :35:43.the races that Frankel's run, this is the horse that's got closest to

:35:43. > :35:46.him a long time ago when they were two-year-olds. Pastorius, an

:35:46. > :35:52.interesting ride this for Sovereign Debt. German-trained horse. Will

:35:52. > :35:58.love the ground. A German Derby winner and looked very decent as a

:35:58. > :36:02.three-year-old. The second top rated three-year-old in Europe

:36:02. > :36:08.behind Camelot in fact. A serious horse as well. Represents the

:36:08. > :36:17.three-year-old division. But this is the moment. We are not far away

:36:17. > :36:25.now from the Qipco Champion Stakes. From Frankel, could it be his

:36:25. > :36:31.finest hour? The Sir Henry Cecil trained colt

:36:31. > :36:37.Frankel has been one of tf best ever. This horse is greatest

:36:37. > :36:41.racehorse I've ever seen. Uerbgs Frankel is box office, perhaps the

:36:41. > :36:47.greatest racehorse that racing has ever seen. The best racehorse in

:36:47. > :36:57.the world. Highest rated horse in the world. What a privilege.

:36:57. > :36:58.

:36:58. > :37:08.big, big one for Frankel. immediate response. In front by ten

:37:08. > :37:11.

:37:11. > :37:18.lengths. He's clear. The brilliant, unbeaten Frankel. Scintillated an

:37:18. > :37:23.sensational. You will never see another like him. Sir Henry Cecil

:37:23. > :37:28.there in the stands. His children in front of him. And it's his

:37:28. > :37:31.daughter on the left with the blonde hair there. This is a real

:37:31. > :37:36.moment for them. I mean, you know, it's out of Henry's control now,

:37:36. > :37:41.it's all down to Tom and the horse. Yes, but Tom is more relaxed now

:37:41. > :37:46.than he's been in the last 24 hours. He'll be as relaxed as relaxed

:37:46. > :37:52.could be because he's got nobody chattering in your ear now and all

:37:52. > :37:58.it is now is silence out there in the country and you and your

:37:58. > :38:08.champion going cantering down nice and quietly to make history here at

:38:08. > :38:09.

:38:09. > :38:12.Ascot today. This is just - well, look at him - ears pricked,

:38:12. > :38:18.cantering very nicely and sedately and they're in tune with one

:38:18. > :38:24.another. I'm sure that's what will happen when the gates fly back open.

:38:24. > :38:28.This guy will just canter away behind his pacemaker and make all

:38:29. > :38:34.these basically champions look like selling players. That's what we

:38:34. > :38:37.hope's going to happen. The two things that make this the biggest

:38:37. > :38:41.test Frankel's ever had is the ground which is softer than he'll

:38:41. > :38:44.have raced over before, but there are reasons to think he'll handle

:38:44. > :38:47.that. The other is Cirrus Des Aigles, who is the best horse that

:38:47. > :38:53.he has come up against so far and who definitely likes this ground

:38:53. > :38:58.and who is a very experienced older horse and is a bit of a star, he

:38:58. > :39:01.really is. There are two things that contradict one another. His

:39:01. > :39:06.actions suggest that he'd handle cut in the ground because he gets

:39:06. > :39:11.his knee high and the other thing is, he's a very big heavy horse and

:39:11. > :39:14.big heavy horses have to lift themselves out of soft ground and

:39:14. > :39:20.don't usually suit them because they have to work harder to lift

:39:20. > :39:25.all that weight adds they are gal lopping in soft ground -- gal

:39:25. > :39:30.lopping in soft ground. Will you, let's see. He's not like other

:39:30. > :39:35.horses. Look at Cirrus Des Aigles on the left there, Frankel on the

:39:35. > :39:39.right. He's a big horse. But he looks narrow in the chest area

:39:39. > :39:48.compared to Frankel. Look at Frankel's shoulder muscles.

:39:48. > :39:51.reminds you of a bull, you know. Strong, big shouldered, big

:39:51. > :39:59.backside. Nathaniel in the foreground, we talked about him

:39:59. > :40:05.briefly earlier, he's got very warm there. Yes. He's a classic looking

:40:05. > :40:10.horse. He's good-looking, athletic. Eclipse winner, King George winner

:40:10. > :40:18.last year, second in the King George last year, just beaten. Had

:40:18. > :40:23.a bit of a temperature. Ko-sms here as a second option to the Ark. --

:40:23. > :40:27.comes here as a second option to the Ark. The filly, his sister,

:40:27. > :40:37.suffered. Got put into the Arc de Triomphe and then had to come out

:40:37. > :40:41.

:40:41. > :40:48.here today and she was a bit quicker. Look who is leading them

:40:48. > :40:53.round! I was at practise with him. He's the specialist with horses in

:40:53. > :40:59.the stalls and he's a bit of a horse whisperer, has a great

:40:59. > :41:02.technique around horses. He's more usually used with more difficult

:41:03. > :41:08.animals. Frankel is incredibly straightforward, or has seemed to

:41:08. > :41:13.be. But this is the big test, the big moment. Clare, here we go!

:41:13. > :41:18.on favourite here is Frankel. Tom Queally and Frankel into the

:41:18. > :41:22.stalls. They've had some fantastic times together. Will this be the

:41:22. > :41:26.ultimate?! That's it! Off and running in the Qipco Champion

:41:26. > :41:36.Stakes. And last away Frankel, missed it by two or three lengths

:41:36. > :41:36.

:41:36. > :41:44.and am pling along toward the end of the field. -- ampling along.

:41:44. > :41:50.Cirrus Des Aigles getting through to the pacemaker. Frankel tracking.

:41:50. > :41:55.Master Of Hounds. Mongan looking around. Pastorius. Getting away

:41:55. > :42:00.from the inside rail, about five horses off the inside rail as they

:42:00. > :42:05.swing out of Swinley Bottom. It's Cirrus Des Aigles in front by half

:42:05. > :42:09.a length for Peslier. Nathaniel on the outside. In third Bullet Train

:42:09. > :42:14.with Mongan still looking around. Frankel on the outside. Started to

:42:14. > :42:19.loom up in the fourth. Half a length away, Master Of Hounds and

:42:19. > :42:23.then Pastorius. Five-and-a-half furlongs to go now. Bullet Train

:42:23. > :42:27.starts to do his job. Cirrus Des Aigles is going with him. Two

:42:27. > :42:33.lengths away is Nathaniel. Two away then is Frankel back in fourth

:42:33. > :42:36.position and he's am bling along at this stage. Being tracked by

:42:36. > :42:40.Pastorius and Master Of Hounds. All the time climbing up towards home

:42:40. > :42:47.in the Champion Stakes and on the left of the picture, it's the

:42:47. > :42:51.pacemaker, Bullet Train, by two lengths to Cirrus Des Aigles second.

:42:51. > :42:56.Nathaniel. Frankel poised in fourth. Master Of Hounds then Pastorius as

:42:56. > :43:00.they round the home turn now. About to straighten up for the judge.

:43:00. > :43:04.Cirrus Des Aigles on the outside grabs the lead from Bullet Train.

:43:04. > :43:07.Here is Nathaniel but look at Frankel on the outside less loose

:43:07. > :43:12.by Queally. Starting to move up very easily. Cirrus Des Aigles on

:43:12. > :43:16.the far side. It's now Frankel for the final effort. He still hasn't

:43:16. > :43:22.moved on the near side. Now he says go, a furlong to go, it's Frankel

:43:22. > :43:26.who takes up the running clearly. He's in front. He's going for the

:43:26. > :43:30.whip and he's roaring away. 14 out of 14! He makes his biggest

:43:30. > :43:38.challenge look pretty easy as he goes to the line. Frankel, the

:43:38. > :43:44.greatest of the greatest goes on to beat Cirrus Des Aigles. In in third,

:43:44. > :43:53.Nathaniel, Pastorius and Master Of Hounds. Last is Bullet Train. Well,

:43:53. > :43:57.he's done it. Unbeat none 14. 11-2 on favourite. Frankel. And it was a

:43:57. > :44:01.really dramatic race from the time they left the stalls. He didn't

:44:01. > :44:07.begin that well. The pacemaker, the rider, the pacemaker was looking

:44:07. > :44:13.around for him, but in tend, he ambled up on the outside and Tom

:44:13. > :44:18.Queally who knows him so well pushed the button. He didn't win by

:44:18. > :44:24.a wide margin, but he was always going to win. Second was Cirrus Des

:44:24. > :44:29.Aigles, hast year's winner. Then a gap of three to four lengths to

:44:29. > :44:35.Nathaniel, a King George winner here at Ascot, then the German

:44:35. > :44:41.Derby winner, Pastorius in fourth. Then in fifth, Master Of Hounds.

:44:41. > :44:45.And the sixth and last is Bullet Train. There was some heart-

:44:45. > :44:53.stopping moments. All the time you felt that the way he was going, he

:44:53. > :44:58.was handling the ground OK. Although he hasn't won by the

:44:58. > :45:03.electrifying style of the Queen Anne when he won by 11 lengths in

:45:03. > :45:12.June, he was still going to win. That was the important thing for

:45:12. > :45:22.everybody here today. 14 out of 14, Sir Henry Cecil. His son Jake with

:45:22. > :45:33.

:45:33. > :45:39.disappointed. This Champion of Champions. Perhaps the greatest of

:45:39. > :45:44.them all, has won today and he's won it comfortably but in difficult

:45:44. > :45:53.conditions. The distances, a length and three quarters and two-and-a-

:45:53. > :45:57.half lengths. The time was 2: 10.22. The only moment of worry, the only

:45:57. > :46:02.moment of doubt for Frankel's supporters was the start, because

:46:02. > :46:11.Frankel was very slow out of the stalls. That meant that Tom Queally

:46:11. > :46:16.had to Chase him slightly to keep up. Bullet Train was out like a

:46:16. > :46:23.built. Frankel had to be nudged slightly. Ian Mongan was looking

:46:23. > :46:28.rounds for him, but once he moved up alongside Nathaniel, he was

:46:28. > :46:34.moving so easily. He is a special horse. Things have gone wrong for

:46:34. > :46:38.him and that would get most horses beat, but not this guy. He went

:46:38. > :46:44.past this horse, absolutely... It is unbelievable. He is just

:46:44. > :46:50.starting to have to work now. Maybe he doesn't quite get the trip. He

:46:50. > :46:55.has won in spite of the ground. I'm sure he will be a much better, you

:46:55. > :47:02.would get a better performance out of him on faster ground than this

:47:02. > :47:08.sort of, this National Hunt heavy sort of stuff. We have already had

:47:08. > :47:11.one round of applause and cheers Henry Cecil. We'll get another in

:47:11. > :47:16.the Grandstand as Frankel parades in front of them.

:47:16. > :47:20.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE They came to see this horse, and Henry Cecil

:47:20. > :47:24.deserves so much credit for all the times he's been champion trainer

:47:24. > :47:28.for all the great horses that have come through his hands. The way

:47:28. > :47:33.he's handled this horse to keep him at the top of his game for as long

:47:33. > :47:40.as he has deserves so much appreciation. The horse is

:47:40. > :47:46.unbelievable. And, of course, there's Her Majesty the Queen. Oh!

:47:46. > :47:52.Gave Tom Queally a wave! You can see he's such a special, special

:47:53. > :47:56.horse this. The whole country should be very proud that we have a

:47:56. > :48:01.superstar that can go around the world and defeat anybody. This is

:48:01. > :48:05.the best horse I've ever seen. I would hope that most people would

:48:05. > :48:14.agree it is the best horse that they've ever seen as well. I think

:48:14. > :48:19.it is the best horse ever. Even getting left those three or four

:48:19. > :48:24.lengths, on this ground you have that extra effort to get back up

:48:24. > :48:27.there to get back into your racing position and then find your rhythm.

:48:28. > :48:34.He found that after about two furlongs. Obviously he was using a

:48:34. > :48:43.lot of energy up in that first two furlongs. But he still had enough

:48:43. > :48:48.class, ability, to come to that French colt... Cirrus Des Aigles. A

:48:48. > :48:54.gelding. Basically on the bridle. He got tired the last furlong and

:48:54. > :48:58.Tom Queally did have to get him a reminder just to keep him going,

:48:58. > :49:02.because on this ground horses tend to want to stop galloping. That's

:49:02. > :49:06.what the win is for, just to keep them going. The fear always when

:49:07. > :49:11.you build up to a big sporting occasion is that it won't live up

:49:11. > :49:17.to expectation, that something will go wrong, that we will be

:49:17. > :49:22.dispoisoned. And today it did not. -- that we will be disappointed and

:49:22. > :49:28.today it did not. Thank goodness. Despite the soft ground. We must

:49:28. > :49:33.give credit to the owner and the trainer today. They were brilliant.

:49:33. > :49:38.They had every excuse not to run him but they said, let's run him.

:49:38. > :49:42.Even the ground being like it is. They took the chance and they've

:49:42. > :49:47.been rewarded. They've been rewarded well, because the horse

:49:47. > :49:51.gave lengths away at the start, came to serious -- came to Cirrus

:49:51. > :49:56.Des Aigles a furlong-and-a-half down on the bridle virtually and

:49:56. > :50:02.won by one and three quarter lengths. What a superstar this is.

:50:02. > :50:12.And don't forget the horses he's beat here today are the best in the

:50:12. > :50:15.

:50:15. > :50:18.whole wide world. CHEERING Hen are there in discussion with Ed Dunlop.

:50:18. > :50:22.We saw Aidan O'Brien saying well done as well all of the trainers

:50:22. > :50:29.with licences in this country and around Europe are thrilled for

:50:29. > :50:34.Henry. He's a very sick man. He is undergoing chemotherapy. This horse

:50:34. > :50:38.has given him reason to be joyful and reason to be positive and so

:50:38. > :50:46.much motivation. That's why this is about more than just racing. This

:50:46. > :50:52.is an incredible story. He's beautiful isn't he? It is a human

:50:52. > :51:00.story. It is an unbelievable story that we have here today. It's been

:51:00. > :51:03.fulfilled. We have all got what we all wanted a. All the people who've

:51:03. > :51:13.come to Ascot today in their thousands to see this superstar

:51:13. > :51:17.have been rewarded by seeing him win.

:51:17. > :51:22.May it please Your Majesty, your rile Highness, my Lords, ladies and

:51:22. > :51:30.gentlemen, this is what you came to see. He is a British champion. He

:51:30. > :51:40.is a world champion, he is a champion of all time, 14 out of 14

:51:40. > :51:55.

:51:55. > :52:02.wins for the magnificent Frankel! comes back to adulation rarely seen

:52:02. > :52:08.on a British racecourse. Tom Queally dismounts. Henry Cecil, who

:52:08. > :52:15.has done such a fantastic job with this horse in nurturing this great

:52:15. > :52:23.talent, developing it, and ensuring that he was always given every

:52:24. > :52:31.chance. Prince Khalid Abdullah there. Lord Grimthorpe, racing

:52:31. > :52:35.manager to Prince Khaled. This huge crowd, a sellout crowd here at

:52:35. > :52:40.Ascot. Prince Khalid listening to Tom Queally and listening to what

:52:40. > :52:50.he has to say about the race. Will it be fascinating to hear what he

:52:50. > :52:58.says this the interview Tom. Frankie Dettori, who rode Pastorius.

:52:58. > :53:02.And Marcus Armitage. And Prince Khalid listening to what had to say

:53:02. > :53:09.about what happened. I have a feeling they didn't want to be up

:53:09. > :53:15.there at all early. Whether they wanted to miss the start just as

:53:15. > :53:21.acutely as they did is another matter. But Cirrus Des Aigles was

:53:21. > :53:27.left having to do the donkey work himself at least five-and-a-half,

:53:27. > :53:33.six from home. He has run exceptionally well. You do just get

:53:33. > :53:43.an inkling that it was a little bit messy. There is no doubt about the

:53:43. > :53:49.winner. The winner has won. And he's done it so well. All Prince

:53:49. > :53:59.Khalid, almost going over a barrel of water! Let's look at the full

:53:59. > :54:00.

:54:00. > :54:05.details on the QIPCO Champion Stakes.

:54:05. > :54:11.Thank you Frankel, it's been a privilege to watch you.

:54:11. > :54:15.We'll find out shortly the thoughts of Henry Cecil, Khalid Abdullah and

:54:15. > :54:19.qeelqoel qeel and get a decision I suspect on whether that's the last

:54:19. > :54:24.time we see Frankel or whether there may be one hor race this

:54:24. > :54:29.season. I doubt it. The Breeders Cup Classic would be the only

:54:29. > :54:36.option. I hope he runs again, as I would like to get the same feeling

:54:36. > :54:41.that I'm feeling now. Tom Queally weighing in in the

:54:41. > :54:47.winners closure, or close to it. That's the final formality. 9 stone

:54:48. > :54:52.3 the scales need to say, and they did. He will come across to Rishi

:54:52. > :54:57.and the crowd. We will hear the interviews as they go out on the PA.

:54:57. > :55:04.We can go to Rishi right now. Here I am with the winning trainer Sir

:55:04. > :55:09.Henry Cecil. What did you make of what you saw today Sir Henry?

:55:09. > :55:14.didn't have the ground, but he was very relaxed. We haven't got much

:55:14. > :55:19.time before we go off air on the BBC, can tell us what's the has

:55:19. > :55:24.been the best thing about training Frankel? Everything in general I

:55:24. > :55:28.enjoyed. He's the best I've ever had, the best I've ever seen. I

:55:28. > :55:33.will be very surprised if there's ever better. Sir Henry, thank you

:55:33. > :55:38.very much. CHEERING And that is the first time

:55:38. > :55:43.that Henry Cecil has said there has never been better. It's the first

:55:43. > :55:50.time thatna he has admitted this is the best horse he's ever had.

:55:50. > :55:55.That's a bad sign for me in terms of that's it? Tom Queally,

:55:55. > :56:01.congratulations. What was happening at the start? He was getting more

:56:01. > :56:05.and more relaxed as time went on. He was waiting for the gates to

:56:05. > :56:09.open and he was away. He travelled well and was happy all the way.

:56:10. > :56:14.There is no doubt he is better on better ground. His class really

:56:14. > :56:19.showed today. People have been waiting for him to have what they

:56:19. > :56:24.said is his toughest test. What did you make of what he achieved this

:56:24. > :56:29.afternoon? I walked the track wand was a little worried about the

:56:29. > :56:36.conditions. I knew it wasn't too heavy for him to quicken up and win.

:56:36. > :56:41.It is always a concern. You want every angle covered and you want

:56:41. > :56:46.everything in your favour. In that respect there is always a little

:56:46. > :56:51.worry, but he was in great heart today. And he looked a lot better

:56:51. > :56:57.than he did 12 months ago to this day. What can I say about him that

:56:57. > :57:01.hasn't been said before? He is so good, even on that ground. You

:57:01. > :57:09.never see a Formula One Carwyn on anything but tarmac but he might

:57:09. > :57:15.argue that case a little. Well done Tom. Thanks a lot. CHEERING Frankel

:57:15. > :57:21.is getting roared around the Parade Ring as he takes his lap of honour.

:57:21. > :57:26.And honestly, Henry said he didn't like the crowd much. He looked so

:57:26. > :57:31.unbothered by it. It him so relaxed. That is possibly why he was so

:57:31. > :57:36.relaxed coming out of the stalls. You can see him walking around

:57:36. > :57:46.there, he just walked past us once. He's got 100 cameramen trying to

:57:46. > :57:46.

:57:46. > :57:52.get in his ear with big cameras. They are all clapping at him and he

:57:52. > :57:55.is saying, "Yeah, I did it, thank you very much." Look at him, so

:57:55. > :58:00.relaxed. Someone needs to straighten that sheet. He's done it.

:58:00. > :58:06.He heard you Clare. You are marvellous when you talk, Clare.

:58:06. > :58:13.Things happen. I just want to hear from Rishi about whether that was

:58:13. > :58:17.Frankel's final race, any idea Rishi? I've just spoken to Prince

:58:17. > :58:24.Khalid Abdullah. He has just confirmed that Frankel has indeed

:58:24. > :58:33.run his last ever race. We hoped perhaps it could be extended, but

:58:33. > :58:40.how can you improve on perfection? What a day. Honestly, what a horse

:58:40. > :58:44.this is. And listen... Thereon the applause.

:58:44. > :58:49.A fabulous, fabulous moment, a fabulous racehorse. It is like the

:58:49. > :58:54.FA Cup. The best we have ever seen. Thanks to everyone at the BBC who

:58:55. > :59:02.has worked at Ascot for the last 61 years, and thanks to this man.

:59:02. > :59:07.Frankel has given us our finest finale. Bye.

:59:07. > :59:13.COMMENTATOR: The Sir Henry Cecil horse Frankel has been named...

:59:13. > :59:23.Perhaps best racehorse the world has ever seen.

:59:23. > :59:23.

:59:32. > :59:38.the world. This horse is the greatest racehorse I have ever seen.

:59:38. > :59:48.And Frankel is striding away... He begins to stretch away... An

:59:48. > :59:50.
