:00:44. > :00:48.most majestic race course in the UK. We're here live at Ascot, huge

:00:48. > :00:51.crowd gathered for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, a

:00:51. > :00:55.race named in honour of the late King George VI and the Queen Mother,

:00:55. > :00:59.and a huge crowd gathered here to witness horses from the UK, from

:00:59. > :01:03.Ireland, France, from Japan, from Germany as well. We've also got in

:01:03. > :01:06.the race an Australian jockey, an Italian jockey and Frankie Dettori

:01:06. > :01:11.obviously, but it is a great British day out and rare for this

:01:11. > :01:15.summer, a racing Saturday where the rain isn't pouring and the wind

:01:15. > :01:19.isn't blowing a Gail, which certainly makes it more fun for the

:01:19. > :01:24.children and makes picnics rather easier to negotiate. It should be a

:01:24. > :01:28.fantastic day of sports, and the main race itself is due off at

:01:28. > :01:33.4.45pm, but we're here until 5.00pm. We'll be building up to a race that

:01:33. > :01:43.is so historic and has been won over the years - first run in 1951

:01:43. > :01:54.

:01:54. > :02:04.just lets him canter. What a horse this is. The fantastic winner of

:02:04. > :02:04.

:02:04. > :02:14.the King George. Makes it 15 out of 15. He's going to win it in

:02:14. > :02:31.

:02:31. > :02:38.tremendous style. Look at Mont Jeu. history? Only two horses have ever

:02:38. > :02:42.won back-to-back King George VIs, the first was the filly Dahlai in

:02:42. > :02:49.'73, then coming into the 21st century or just at theent of the

:02:49. > :02:53.20th, Swain did it twice in '97 and '99. The question is could

:02:53. > :02:58.Nathaniel be the third and only the third horse to come here having won

:02:58. > :03:01.the King George, then do it again the next year? The man onboard will

:03:01. > :03:09.be hoping that is the case. Ryan Moore gets the leg-up on Sea Moon,

:03:09. > :03:12.a horse with so much potential, a huge long stride as well. That is

:03:12. > :03:18.Andreas Starke who rides Dandedream and Olivier Peslier is on Reliable

:03:18. > :03:24.Man, looking very cool, and we have a Japanese runner, Yasunari Iwata

:03:24. > :03:29.will be the jockey onboard Deep Brillante.

:03:29. > :03:33.And Frankie Dettori there talking to William Buick - both of them

:03:33. > :03:38.riding for John Gosden. He'll be on Masked Marvel.

:03:38. > :03:42.Willie is with us. We have Steve Drowne, sadly not to ride. Lovely

:03:42. > :03:45.to see you. Thanks. This should be a sensational day, shouldn't it?

:03:45. > :03:50.should be fantastic. This is the best I have seen for a long time of

:03:50. > :03:56.the King George anyway, so looking forward to it. If you're a fan of

:03:56. > :04:00.Just a Minute, you know they have to speak on Radio Four without

:04:00. > :04:08.hesitation or repetition so we're going to reel awe off the field of

:04:08. > :04:16.ten because they include... The Arc, the King George... The Breeders Cup.

:04:16. > :04:19.Coronation Cup Twice. Melbourne Cup. Hong Kong Vase. Jockeys' club.

:04:19. > :04:25.St Ledger. I think I get done for hesitation. In between those the

:04:25. > :04:27.jockeys have won in excess of 14 million in prize money, so the big

:04:27. > :04:32.question is, if they're looking for the winner, what would you suggest

:04:32. > :04:36.they back? The thing is it's such a very open,

:04:37. > :04:42.competitive race. You've got Nathaniel, who won this race last

:04:42. > :04:46.year. He's just won the Eclipse, but it was only two weeks ago, so

:04:46. > :04:50.obviously, there is the bounds factor, which is - he's racing over

:04:50. > :04:53.a very long period of not racing, then two weeks ago he has a race,

:04:53. > :05:00.so sometimes horses need a little bit longer to get over that race,

:05:00. > :05:04.then we have got the Japanese Derby winner, last year's Arc winner.

:05:04. > :05:08.Exactly - Deep Brillante and Dandedream. What do you fancy?

:05:08. > :05:12.like Sea Moon. He's got to improve, but I think he is improving. He's

:05:12. > :05:18.probably the least exposed runner in the field. He's going the right

:05:18. > :05:22.way. He ran the Hardwick well last time. There is a lot of pluses. It

:05:22. > :05:26.could be his day. He has to improve a little bit. He has everything

:05:26. > :05:30.going for him. I think he is improving. Exactly. We'll try to be

:05:30. > :05:33.a little clearer what we think as we get closer to the race. Key is

:05:33. > :05:40.seeming thing in the paddock, seeing them on what is this

:05:40. > :05:44.gleaming, slightly overcast day. Summer hasn't arrived. We have a

:05:44. > :05:48.lot to look forward to. As well as four live races, this is what we've

:05:48. > :05:52.got in store for you this afternoon. We take you behind the scenes to

:05:52. > :05:58.explore the day in a life of a stall's handler, arguably the most

:05:58. > :06:03.dangerous job of all on a race course.

:06:03. > :06:10.Her Majesty the Queen will be presenting the trophy for the King

:06:10. > :06:17.George. She was receiving one in the Royal Ascot. Could be she'll be

:06:17. > :06:27.cheering home another favourite. Mick Fitzgerald has been to Germany

:06:27. > :06:31.to look at the preparations for the Arc-winning filly Dandedream.

:06:31. > :06:34.The top team for Royal Ascot is John Gosden and William Buick.

:06:34. > :06:38.They're flying, so we take a look at what makes their relationship

:06:38. > :06:42.work and why they're so successful. Amongst the winning King George VI

:06:42. > :06:46.winners we have Sea Moon, St Nicholas Abbey, the Melbourne Cup

:06:46. > :06:50.winner Dunaden and from Japan, their Derby winner Deep Brillante.

:06:50. > :06:54.But race goers have been here since about 12.00pm because there's been

:06:54. > :07:02.so much else to enjoy and two races already. The first of them, the

:07:02. > :07:08.real highlight for lady amateur riders, now sponsored by Longene.

:07:08. > :07:16.There was a field of 24 this year. Nina Carberry was there and Katie

:07:16. > :07:21.Walsh who thinished third in the Grand National and Hayley, onboard

:07:21. > :07:29.Red Viz. Let's pick up the closing stages with commentary from Jim

:07:29. > :07:35.McGrath. Red Viz is sweeping through with Day of the Eagle. On

:07:35. > :07:41.the near side, Apostle fighting it out with Red Viz. They're in a

:07:41. > :07:43.photo. Just behind them is Day of the Eagle, third, followed by Great

:07:44. > :07:50.Shot. The winning distance was officially

:07:50. > :07:56.the minimum, a nose, as Hayley Moore just held on on Red Viz from

:07:56. > :08:04.Leanne Masterton on Apostle. She came into the winner's enclosure

:08:04. > :08:14.looking very happy. Quite relieved as well, a little uncertainty which

:08:14. > :08:45.

:08:45. > :08:48.way the photo would go. A great Yes, excellent racing here today on

:08:48. > :08:52.King George day, and as far as the mile racers are concerned, we've

:08:52. > :08:55.got one on the straight course and one on the round course. Carlton

:08:55. > :08:58.House is on that summer mile on the round course, but we've got one on

:08:59. > :09:03.the straight course coming up know. Let's check the runners and riders

:09:03. > :09:13.for this particular event. It's the Deloitte Handicap. We have a field

:09:13. > :09:48.

:09:48. > :09:54.of 11. Take out number four. Let's on the straight mile.

:09:54. > :10:04.And the betting as follows - The favourite is Chil the Kite at

:10:04. > :10:27.

:10:27. > :10:32.around the country and race meetings still being abandoned this

:10:32. > :10:36.week but it's drying out at Royal Ascot, but what's it like way out

:10:36. > :10:40.in the country? Mick is there now, and he can stick his heel in and

:10:40. > :10:43.tell us. Thanks I am down here at the four-furlong pole on the round

:10:43. > :10:46.course. Ascot is no different than any other course. They have had

:10:46. > :10:50.twice as much rain in the first couple of weeks of July than they

:10:50. > :10:55.normally, have but it's draining really well. You can see I can get

:10:55. > :10:58.my heel in easily there. It's good to soft on the round course but

:10:58. > :11:01.we're here on the junction of the straight course. It's totally

:11:01. > :11:08.different. It's good ground, drying all the time. It's not going to

:11:08. > :11:11.suit all horses. It will suit thes like of Masked Marvel and St

:11:11. > :11:16.Nicholas Abbey and I am hoping it suits the one I like Sea Moon -

:11:16. > :11:20.good ground on there, drying all the time. It's not going to suit

:11:20. > :11:24.all horses. It will suit the likes of Masked Marvel and St Nicholas

:11:24. > :11:28.Abbey, and I am hoping it will suit the one I like. Apologies for the

:11:28. > :11:31.mixup with the sound, but that was Mick telling us about the ground.

:11:31. > :11:35.We'll have a look at the favourite, Chil the Kite, cantering down to

:11:35. > :11:39.the start. Ryan Moore onboard. It's interesting, when Hugh which

:11:39. > :11:44.Morseon and Ryan Moore team up, they have a 50% strike rate. He's

:11:44. > :11:47.ridden for him eight times, won on four of them since 2011, and this

:11:47. > :11:53.horse would have a really decent chance. Willie and Steve still with

:11:53. > :11:58.me, and there we are with live shots of Chil the Kite. Steve, what

:11:58. > :12:02.do you reckon? I like him. I rode him as a two-year-old. He won a

:12:02. > :12:07.maiden at Goodwood well then. last run at Doncaster was very good,

:12:07. > :12:11.wasn't it? Yeah, very good. But I mean, competitive racing when he

:12:11. > :12:15.ran well - first time out this year, he was probably a little bit

:12:15. > :12:20.unlucky. He was a bit free, ended up in front. It didn't suit him.

:12:20. > :12:24.He's the 11-1 favourite, and arriving in the nick of time, Her

:12:24. > :12:29.Majesty, the Queen. She has Carlton House running, also has a runner in

:12:29. > :12:33.Newmarket with a decent chance, and the Queen will, as always, be

:12:33. > :12:37.making the presentation before - Prince Harry did it last year, but

:12:37. > :12:43.the Queen back here on King George day and will be making the

:12:43. > :12:48.presentation for that race, not coming by Royal procession here,

:12:48. > :12:52.but instead, in the very, very smart chauffeur-driven car, and

:12:52. > :12:56.crowds out to wave, and a lot of Union flags have been handed out

:12:56. > :13:03.today, so people have them in their hands and can show their support

:13:03. > :13:11.and their enthusiasm. So the Queen will make her way up to the Royal

:13:11. > :13:17.Box. Got a good view over the paddock as

:13:17. > :13:19.well as the race course itself. Johnny Wetherby, Her Majesty's

:13:19. > :13:29.representative at Ascot, greeting the Queen.

:13:29. > :13:31.

:13:31. > :13:35.live race, the Deloitte Handicap, arriving at the start. Oh, and

:13:35. > :13:40.Willie just pointing out that also after we go off air... She'll be

:13:41. > :13:46.here for a long time today, Her Majesty. The Queen has two

:13:46. > :13:52.runners... The ten past 5.00pm race. One is Bank Bonus. His breeding is

:13:52. > :13:56.he's by Motivator out of Small Fortune, so she called him that -

:13:56. > :14:00.quite funny. If you look at all the Queen's horses, they've all got

:14:00. > :14:03.very, very good names, and Her Majesty names all her horses

:14:03. > :14:09.herself. William Buick is currently second in the jockeys' championship

:14:09. > :14:14.behind Ryan Moore. He's having a stunning season, running a horse

:14:14. > :14:18.called Fire Ship, another runner in the race today, Takeitfromalady on

:14:18. > :14:22.Fire Ship's reappearance, and I wonder if he could actually beat

:14:22. > :14:27.Takeitfromalady today because the jaights changed slightly, and he's

:14:27. > :14:32.four pounds better off. Fire Ship, he's - Peter Winkworth, who used to

:14:32. > :14:36.train, and all his horses he used to train are having an absolute

:14:36. > :14:40.fantastic season, because he does have a runner in the next race as

:14:40. > :14:45.well. Plenty of people supporting Deep Brillante. We'll be keeping an

:14:45. > :14:49.eye on this horse - Miblish because this gives Yasunari Iwata a sighter

:14:49. > :14:53.of Ascot race course, and Clive Brittain making sure he has a

:14:53. > :14:57.chance to get out there and feel what it's like because, as we know

:14:57. > :15:00.from jockeys coming over here - Luke Noeland not realising how

:15:00. > :15:05.uphill the finishes are and nearly getting caught. All the race

:15:05. > :15:09.courses in Japan, as most of it, is very, very flat. There is hardly a

:15:09. > :15:12.ridge over there, and of course, when these jockeys come to our race

:15:12. > :15:18.courses, they don't - they cannot believe the ups and downs and the

:15:18. > :15:22.bumps and - that we have to put up with. And to finish what I was

:15:22. > :15:27.saying about Luke Noeland, Black Caviar nearly getting caught on the

:15:27. > :15:33.line. That was a little bit of a mistake. In the Diamond Jubilee.

:15:33. > :15:38.There is Takeitfromalady, as I was mentioning because he has form,

:15:38. > :15:42.trains with Jim Crowley onboard. Jim, his wins have come on soft or

:15:42. > :15:46.heavy ground. We'll find out how much it's drying up. I imagine

:15:46. > :15:50.after yesterday it's drying out. I would think it's just good ground.

:15:50. > :15:55.Whether it will be soft enough or not, I'm not too sure for him.

:15:55. > :15:59.there's - this field here today with the draw, they'll all go up

:15:59. > :16:02.the middle, will they, Steve? pretty sure. It all depends where

:16:02. > :16:06.the pace horses go, but all yesterday they went up the middle.

:16:06. > :16:12.I can't see the first race - up the middle. I would imagine the same

:16:12. > :16:17.would happen again. Frankie Dettori supporters can get 9-1 on Prince

:16:17. > :16:21.Alzain who has won the all-weather over the winter, then second on a

:16:21. > :16:25.listed race again on the all- weather, but at the moment Gerard

:16:25. > :16:33.Butler just having a bit of a quiet year. He actually ran very well on

:16:33. > :16:36.the grass at Epsom. Came from a long way back, was a little bit

:16:36. > :16:43.unlucky. Richard Hughes already won today, his second race, takes the

:16:43. > :16:48.ride here on My Queenie. -- for his father-in-law, Richard Hannon.

:16:48. > :16:52.My Queenie with Richard - of course, he's deciding to let all these

:16:52. > :16:56.horses run because of this soft ground because most of his horses

:16:56. > :17:06.he trains do prefer to have a sound surface, and obviously, Richard

:17:06. > :17:11.

:17:11. > :17:15.Arnold Lane. Just about ready. That's it. They're racing. Chil the

:17:15. > :17:19.Kite drops back towards the rear early, and out the back too is My

:17:19. > :17:23.Queenie. On settling down, the Japanese rider Yasunari Iwata is

:17:23. > :17:28.taking up a prominent position just on the far side, but on settling

:17:28. > :17:38.down, it's Flaxen Flare with the white cap who leads them from Lucky

:17:38. > :17:38.

:17:38. > :17:41.Henry on the near side, Fire Ship, in the centre, Redvers, then

:17:41. > :17:46.Miblish, Prince Alzain, followed by Takeitfromalady on the near side.

:17:46. > :17:52.My Queenie is back in the field. They're followed next in the field

:17:52. > :17:57.then by Lady Loch, spotted cap on the far side. A length further back

:17:57. > :18:00.under a tight rein, Chil the Kite seven length off the pace. They

:18:00. > :18:05.leave the five behind them and Flaxen Flare shows the way. Fire

:18:05. > :18:09.Ship is up there. Lucky Henry in the centre who is showing out there

:18:09. > :18:12.with Redvers. There is Chil the Kite, a long start. Flaxen Flare

:18:12. > :18:16.just the leader from Redvers and Lucky Henry, the far side. Near

:18:16. > :18:19.side is Fire Ship ridden along. Arnold Lane just in behind them.

:18:19. > :18:22.They're followed then by Prince Alzain coming into it. In behind

:18:22. > :18:25.them is Miblish, who has dropped back, followed then by My Queenie

:18:25. > :18:28.in the centre, and now Chil the Kite taking to the near side.

:18:28. > :18:32.They're starting to run on. Anybody's race with a furlong-and-

:18:32. > :18:36.a-half left to go. On the near side it's Fire Ship ranging up, and

:18:36. > :18:39.here's Chil the Kite, who is absolutely rocketing home, grabs

:18:39. > :18:43.the lead and a couple of bounds now, Chil the Kite. He's come from last

:18:43. > :18:47.and starting to draw away. Chil the Kite drifting to the far side

:18:47. > :18:52.violently, but it's enough in hand, and goes on to win it quite well.

:18:52. > :18:57.Chil the Kite, the winner, a tight second - no, it's not on the near

:18:57. > :18:59.side. Takeitfromalady comes up to get second. Blanket third, Lady

:18:59. > :19:05.Loch, Flaxen Flare. Just behind them is Fire Ship followed by

:19:05. > :19:10.Miblish, and they're followed by Arnold Lane. Behind them is Prince

:19:10. > :19:14.Alzain, then Lucky Henry well back, and towards the rear My Queenie.

:19:14. > :19:18.Chil the Kite, though, a peak performance, has come from last

:19:18. > :19:21.ridden by Ryan Moore, a 5-2 favourite. And he's ridden it like

:19:21. > :19:26.a favourite, a confident ride, it was. He set out the back. He was

:19:26. > :19:31.happy to be there, and he's gone on to win it by a length-and-a-half to

:19:31. > :19:36.maybe two lengths on the line. Takeitfromalady has gone up to get

:19:36. > :19:40.second. Blanket for third, and Lady Loch on the far side. Near side,

:19:40. > :19:44.Fire Ship. Flaxen Flare in the centre, three-way go. Leave that to

:19:45. > :19:50.the judge for third. Arnold Lane just in behind them, then the

:19:50. > :19:58.Japanese rider Yasunari Iwata on Miblish just behind them. Then a

:19:58. > :20:02.gap of four lengths or so to Prince Alzain, and behind them is Lucky

:20:02. > :20:11.Henry, and they're followed by My Queenie, who has finished well back,

:20:11. > :20:15.and also Redvers -- Red Art. Michael Hills a long way from them.

:20:15. > :20:23.That's the last horse to cross the line. The winner, he's pretty good,

:20:23. > :20:26.Chil the Kite. He's a colt by Not Now Cato, Copycat, ridden by Ryan

:20:26. > :20:31.Moore, who was quite content to sit out to back, but when he went for

:20:31. > :20:34.him, he made up the ground about seven lengths. He made it up very,

:20:34. > :20:38.very quickly, and he was very confident. Interesting that he just

:20:38. > :20:42.veered to his right across the track, across the face of the field,

:20:42. > :20:46.but he was at least two lengths clear of them and did no damage

:20:46. > :20:52.whatsoever, but there he is. There's the veering. You can see

:20:52. > :20:57.him there, and Ryan's got his whip in the right hand, but it's no, no

:20:57. > :21:01.avail. He's still heading towards that far side rail. He violently

:21:01. > :21:06.has to check him there. He's got him straightened up a little bit

:21:06. > :21:11.better. But that's just green. He's gone to the line very strongly in

:21:11. > :21:17.the end, and he's going to climb higher through the ranks. That's

:21:17. > :21:21.for sure. So the result of this Deloitte Handicap over a mile on

:21:21. > :21:25.the straight course, first, number five, Chil the Kite, Ryan Moore,

:21:25. > :21:30.trained by that man, Hugh which Morrison, 5-2 favourite, second,

:21:31. > :21:40.number nine, Takeitfromalady, at 6- 1, and third, number 11 - it's

:21:41. > :21:45.

:21:45. > :21:49.official now, Flaxen Flare in the just not the distance, but in terms

:21:49. > :21:53.of the victory, the way he did it coming right the way around the

:21:53. > :21:56.field, waiting until he felt the moment was right. He hung a bit. He

:21:56. > :22:03.believed... He's a green horse. He looked as though he was a green

:22:03. > :22:09.horse. He sat last on him. He let them all have a go, and - and, um,

:22:09. > :22:16.sort of, you know - he sort of went to go left-handed, then he went

:22:16. > :22:24.right-handed, and he just ran so green, but you remember, he won on

:22:24. > :22:31.his father... Not Now Cato. In the Eclipse Stakes. His trodgeny this

:22:31. > :22:39.year are having a good year. He's half-brother to Pastoral Player,

:22:39. > :22:43.also trained by Hugh which Morrison who runs in our next race. It's a

:22:43. > :22:47.family double. Interesting was the Japanese jockey on Miblish - looked

:22:47. > :22:51.like he lost his balance towards the finish. As we know in Japan,

:22:51. > :22:55.the tracks are all very level, but here, they don't come across these

:22:56. > :23:00.situations. That'll give that jockey a lot of experience before

:23:00. > :23:02.he rides his horse in the King George. You can have a look here at

:23:03. > :23:07.Miblish and what you think about Yasunari Iwata. I was just thinking

:23:07. > :23:12.about him thinking, hello, did he nearly fall off? He grabs ahold of

:23:12. > :23:17.it. He bumps the saddle a few times. He's losing his balance, and, of

:23:17. > :23:21.course, you see, he's had a couple of cracks. Oops. What was he doing?

:23:21. > :23:27.Maybe that's just his style. No, no. You see the horse just kinked a

:23:27. > :23:30.little bit with him, and he didn't quite have a hold... Meanwhile, the

:23:30. > :23:36.winner absolutely flew, but look how much ground he loses. The

:23:36. > :23:39.stride keeps going forward. He's amazingly... What a race for second.

:23:39. > :23:45.Wasn't it fantastic? But Ryan Moore's horse there is definitely a

:23:45. > :23:49.horse that he hasn't come to the end of his improvement. It looks as

:23:49. > :23:53.though he can still improve, and maybe one day you might just put a

:23:53. > :23:57.hood or some cheek pieces on him just to keep him going straight.

:23:57. > :24:00.Let's hear the reaction of his trainer, Hugh which Morris. He's

:24:00. > :24:06.with me now. An impressive performance and a horse clearly on

:24:06. > :24:11.the up. He's obviously decent. Ryan - the first thing he said was, "I

:24:11. > :24:16.came too early." - he went past them too quick. He's green, shied

:24:16. > :24:19.away from the stands. As I said in the Racing Post, he's still

:24:19. > :24:22.learning. He settled beautifully, and he's a lovely horse. How far do

:24:22. > :24:26.you think he can go? I think probably in time he'll get a mile

:24:26. > :24:33.and a quarter. The great thing is if you can settle and quicken, you

:24:33. > :24:37.never know what you can get, but you know, these pastoral pursuit,

:24:37. > :24:42.they're pretty decent if they can settle. In the NHS next race, there

:24:42. > :24:47.is a horse who has shown glimpses of good form this year. How do you

:24:47. > :24:51.think he'll get on against Carlton House? It's fun to try a mile. He

:24:51. > :24:55.won a Group 3 over second. It might be just a furlong too far, but six

:24:55. > :24:58.furlongs in the Group meeting here was too quick. They didn't kick

:24:58. > :25:04.early enough. He needs to come off a pace, but you know, they're both

:25:04. > :25:08.very good horses, a good mare. the form overall this season for

:25:08. > :25:12.you, Hugh, hasn't been too bad. That was your 23rd of the season.

:25:12. > :25:17.But you have been quiet recently. Nice to get one in the winners'

:25:17. > :25:20.enclosure. We haven't had any good ones running lately. We have had a

:25:20. > :25:24.couple of winners, and most of our horses don't go on what I call

:25:24. > :25:28.heavy ground. We don't train them on it and don't expect them to go

:25:28. > :25:38.on it. He's good. He's proved it today. I hope the success continues.

:25:38. > :26:00.

:26:00. > :26:04.Thank you very much. the performance of the winner with

:26:04. > :26:06.Ian Bart let. Thanks, Claire. Good afternoon. A pretty tight

:26:06. > :26:11.competitive mile handicap we have for these three-year-olds to begin

:26:11. > :26:14.with. Who better to talk about the winner with us because Steve has

:26:14. > :26:18.ridden this one. We'll have a look at the start. He's a horse that

:26:18. > :26:22.needs to be held up. He comes out of stall four. Richard Fahey's

:26:22. > :26:26.horse from stall four rode a little bit awkwardly, but she again likes

:26:26. > :26:29.to come from the back of the field, doesn't she? When you miss a break

:26:29. > :26:34.and are held up, it's not a bad thing. You're in the position you

:26:34. > :26:37.want to be in. It's not necessarily a negative. They have both done

:26:37. > :26:42.well here. I didn't think the race was over in the first half of the

:26:42. > :26:46.race. The race warms up as they go on. In the closing stages of the

:26:46. > :26:50.second, those who weren't up with the pace are finished - the winner

:26:50. > :26:53.and also from the back of the field - Lady Loch comes in there as well.

:26:53. > :26:56.It seems to be a pretty decent pace the whole way through. Let's swap

:26:56. > :27:00.now to the closing stages of the race. This is the winner here on

:27:01. > :27:04.the outside. Just look at the filly there. She's still running on well,

:27:04. > :27:09.Lady Loch. This horse, he hangs today from our, as we look at it,

:27:09. > :27:14.right, all the way over to his left - just a little kink he has?

:27:14. > :27:17.don't think there is necessarily any badness in him. It's still

:27:17. > :27:21.inexperienced still. As you can see, it certainly doesn't stop him going

:27:21. > :27:24.forward. Just as he got there, he stepped in behind one a little bit,

:27:24. > :27:28.but he certainly - as I say, I think he's still learning, and

:27:28. > :27:31.hopefully, that'll be ironed out in time. A good thing about it, of

:27:31. > :27:35.course, means he doesn't win by quite so far, so the handicapper

:27:35. > :27:38.can't put him up by so much. So in effect, the horse almost hides his

:27:38. > :27:42.ability, doesn't he? He does. But you can see, he's come from the

:27:42. > :27:45.back. He's quick and passed everything. There's no excuses for

:27:45. > :27:48.anything. It's obvious he's a fairly good horse. I would imagine

:27:48. > :27:52.he'll get one cut in handicap and move into passing company. Indeed.

:27:52. > :27:56.The family is going in the next as well. His half-brother is called

:27:56. > :28:00.Pastoral Player you'll be seeing in the next mile race. Again, he's a

:28:00. > :28:04.very talented horse - not sure over a mile. That's sort of unknown

:28:04. > :28:07.quantity with him. Certainly, sprinting, he's a good horse.

:28:07. > :28:11.the younger half-brother has won that mile handicap in very good

:28:11. > :28:21.style. Deloitte, the sponsors of this race. The Trentation was made

:28:21. > :28:22.

:28:22. > :28:29.by their Vice Chairman, and Hayley Lawrence and Graham Doyle accepting.

:28:29. > :28:32.He was explaining to Ricci he hasn't run that many who have had a

:28:32. > :28:36.huge chance. There is a really decent crowd here as well as the

:28:36. > :28:40.racing I said earlier - they came early, and one of the things they

:28:40. > :28:44.enjoyed was the parade of horses that have been retrained from a

:28:44. > :28:54.career in racing to then go on and do something else, whether it be

:28:54. > :28:55.

:28:55. > :29:01.dressage or... That grey horse was Dansili. This is I think what the

:29:01. > :29:06.kids really enjoy - Monsignor, a fantastic horse, a Cheltenham

:29:07. > :29:13.Festival winner is so good with them. To have him here today for

:29:13. > :29:17.people to get up close and touch an ex-racehorse. Giving him Polo

:29:17. > :29:21.mints! Look at all of those mints he's getting.

:29:21. > :29:25.The public love to see horses competing. They feel a bit

:29:25. > :29:31.distanced from it with racing. They feel good... You cannot touch a

:29:31. > :29:34.horse. Exactly. But you can with this old guy. He's a good fella. He

:29:34. > :29:39.has been around Cheltenham, a dual Cheltenham winner. He has been

:29:39. > :29:43.around there. He loves giving the Polo mints. The kids can give him a

:29:43. > :29:46.pat on the neck. It's good to get people even coming out of the

:29:46. > :29:50.cities just touching an animal because they've got no chance of

:29:50. > :29:53.doing it. The only thing they can get there in the cities is cats and

:29:53. > :29:56.dogs, isn't it? You can't get anywhere near a horse. No, that's

:29:56. > :30:02.true. That's true, and I think an awful lot of people coming here as

:30:02. > :30:06.well - because the King George is a prestigious, historic race, a lot

:30:06. > :30:10.of them in this next race will be cheering on Carlton House, a horse

:30:10. > :30:14.we saw a lot of this last year - he was third in the Derby. He's

:30:14. > :30:20.actually looked a better horse this year. He ran at Sandown, then was

:30:20. > :30:24.second in the Prince of Wales. lost a shoe in that race in the

:30:24. > :30:28.Derby. He has no chance - he's now going around the paddock because

:30:28. > :30:33.he's obviously got some vet wrap around his feet there just in case

:30:33. > :30:38.he, you know, sort of spreads a plate or something. It's a

:30:38. > :30:41.protective measure, you know? don't often see that, do you?

:30:41. > :30:46.But obviously, he's possibly prone to just catching his shoe or

:30:46. > :30:50.something, so they don't want to have him reshod, but he won't run -

:30:50. > :30:57.I wouldn't have thought so - he wouldn't run with those on anyway.

:30:57. > :31:02.It's just - it looks like vet wrap. It might be a - the vet wraps

:31:02. > :31:05.holding, something like a slipper on. Looks like little blue ankle

:31:05. > :31:11.socks. Looks cute. Exactly. talked about getting up close to

:31:11. > :31:15.the horses and touching them. The people who do that on a daily basis

:31:15. > :31:22.are stalls handlers. There is team of 17 of them here. We wanted to

:31:22. > :31:25.give you an idea of what it's like. Phil Ashley is the lead stall

:31:25. > :31:35.handler... They have to touch the horses. They do. He can tell us

:31:35. > :31:58.

:31:58. > :32:06.soon as it is ready, we let the gates go just to make sure

:32:06. > :32:16.everything is working fine and he's happy with the stalls.

:32:16. > :32:17.

:32:17. > :32:21.to stand. They stand in the middle, and the jockeys walk around them.

:32:21. > :32:26.You keep away from them so nobody gets kicked. Now we just go down to

:32:26. > :32:34.the next stand and do it all again. Leave your Land Rover in. Take it

:32:34. > :32:37.into the middle - take it over by Ann.

:32:37. > :32:47.He comes down and gives the lads their leads, which order to put

:32:47. > :32:47.

:32:47. > :32:56.soon as they jump off we have to get the stall off, because

:32:56. > :32:59.obviously they come past here again. Travel around, see different people,

:33:00. > :33:07.different race courses. You know, a day like this it's a lovely job,

:33:07. > :33:10.isn't it? This is the best time of the day, the last race. It's an

:33:10. > :33:18.apprentice race, so they're inexperienced jockeys so we take

:33:18. > :33:22.more time and care with them. Very good day, yeah, we have had no

:33:22. > :33:32.problems. As soon as I finish here I am down to my digs and going to

:33:32. > :33:35.

:33:35. > :33:39.have a pint and something to eat. have ridden all over the world, how

:33:39. > :33:42.do they rate the British stall- handlers? They're pretty good. Most

:33:42. > :33:47.people when you see a horse panicking run away. They're paid to

:33:47. > :33:51.get in there with them. They are very, very fit and brave lads. They

:33:51. > :33:55.understand the horse and when a horse is really panicking they know

:33:55. > :33:59.how to handle that horse because normally it's a very, very

:33:59. > :34:03.dangerous time when you have a horse thrashing, wanting to get out

:34:03. > :34:08.and loses his confidence. The horse in panic is not a very nice thing,

:34:08. > :34:11.but those guys have to deal with it. It was only just last week I was

:34:12. > :34:15.watching television and the first race at Haydock was delayed for a

:34:15. > :34:20.long time because one of the stall handlers got kicked and he had to

:34:20. > :34:23.be taken off in an ambulance. So it's a very, very dangerous job.

:34:23. > :34:28.Mick Fitzgerald is there at the start with the team.

:34:28. > :34:32.Yeah, thanks, Clare. I have one of the starters here. Everybody thinks

:34:32. > :34:36.it's just simple. Load them up. We know the stall handlers do a great

:34:36. > :34:41.job. What order do do you it? We have a list here and it looks like

:34:41. > :34:45.a foreign language to me. Yes, to everybody else it probably looks

:34:45. > :34:48.like greyhound form. To us we get a list of all the problem horses we

:34:48. > :34:56.know of, in this race there is two that have history. One is Carlton

:34:56. > :35:03.House. He was loaded last time with a blindfold and took a late request.

:35:03. > :35:08.That's what BLO, late request, minous OK. He was OK. Today, we are

:35:09. > :35:13.going to load with a normal blind left on and he will go in first.

:35:13. > :35:17.you have 23 runners do you load the odds first, evens, how does it go?

:35:17. > :35:21.Generally we load everything with a blindfold goes first and then odds

:35:21. > :35:26.and evens. If you are drawn one of 20, one doesn't necessarily go

:35:26. > :35:31.first. It could be nine could go first. Odds are odds, evens are

:35:31. > :35:34.evens. What's a good day for you? When everything goes smooth and we

:35:34. > :35:40.don't leave any behind. You hear that, Clare.

:35:40. > :35:44.That's good for everybody! Good for the jockeys as well. There is

:35:44. > :35:48.Joseph O'Brien, he has been walking the course, thorough in his

:35:48. > :35:53.preparations. He will be taking the ride for St Nicholas Abbey for his

:35:53. > :35:56.father. St Nicholas Abbey, when this race was first priced up, he

:35:56. > :36:01.was favourite. But he's been drifted and sort of alarmingly

:36:01. > :36:11.drifting at times. He is now only third favourite. Nathaniel, last

:36:11. > :36:21.

:36:21. > :36:31.year's winner and Sea Moon are ground, will it be soft enough now?

:36:31. > :36:40.

:36:40. > :36:43.way into the paddock so she can have a close look at Carlton House

:36:43. > :36:49.and Willie and I are intrigued as to whether those blue shoes that he

:36:49. > :36:56.was wearing or blue socks, have disappeared and I think they have.

:36:56. > :36:59.He will be running - it was only then for travelling purposes that

:37:00. > :37:07.he had the blue bandaging on around his feet and I can see him now and

:37:08. > :37:14.he doesn't have them on any more. Let's check this field for the

:37:14. > :37:24.Summer Mile. It's over a mile, naturally. Sponsored by

:37:24. > :37:46.

:37:47. > :37:49.Carlton House in the paddock, walking calmly now. We will see if

:37:49. > :37:53.we can get you a look at his feet. You have noticed something about

:37:53. > :38:01.them and maybe he had the blue tape on. He looks as though he has had a

:38:01. > :38:06.bit of hoof broken off and he has a little bit of plastic moulded on to

:38:06. > :38:11.his off-four. I can assure you that he's had a little bit of farrier

:38:11. > :38:14.work done and those bandages were just in case anything was going

:38:14. > :38:18.wrong because they've obviously been putting a bit of plastic in

:38:18. > :38:22.there just to make his foot that little bit bit stronger because he

:38:22. > :38:26.might have had a bit of a hole there. That's the reason,

:38:26. > :38:31.precautiousary stuff. Nothing to worry about. He looks well in his

:38:31. > :38:38.body. He's always been a very good looking colt. He is out of a filly

:38:38. > :38:42.called Talented who I used to ride myself. She ran in the Italian Oaks,

:38:42. > :38:46.didn't win it. She never won over a mile and a half herself, always won

:38:47. > :38:52.over a mile and quarter. But she was very affected at a mile, as

:38:52. > :38:58.well. But he is a lovely looking colt. Very athletic. Of course,

:38:58. > :39:01.today is the day that he will have to show how good he is, because his

:39:01. > :39:04.opposition is not as good as normal. What do you think about the

:39:04. > :39:14.decision to drop him back in distance to a mile? I suppose it's

:39:14. > :39:20.because of his stallion, the stallion is a horse who produces a

:39:20. > :39:28.lot of speed in Street Cry. He has horses who are - they don't always

:39:28. > :39:34.stay a mile and a half type and he is American. But he is of an Oaks

:39:34. > :39:38.winner, actually. You know, obviously the stamina should be

:39:38. > :39:42.there but he has taken from the speed side of his family. We will

:39:42. > :39:46.talk more about the other runners in this race. We have been joined

:39:46. > :39:54.here by Frankie Dettori. He hasn't been very well of late, have you.

:39:54. > :40:04.Is it catching?! You give your kids everything and all they give you

:40:04. > :40:05.

:40:05. > :40:08.back is conjuntivitis. You had a real thrill here at Ascot, carrying

:40:08. > :40:12.the torch, on the horse we saw earlier. It was interesting because

:40:12. > :40:16.I am not sure the horse liked it much, the torch, but great for you.

:40:16. > :40:20.I have been here with Royal Ascot for the Queen and had great moments

:40:21. > :40:25.but never seen a crowd like it for this Olympic torch. It was amazing.

:40:25. > :40:29.I was completely overwhelmed because all I thought I had to just

:40:29. > :40:32.carry the torch and pass it on to somebody else. It was amazing.

:40:32. > :40:37.the 8,000 people in total who will carry that torch you are the only

:40:37. > :40:40.one who would be daft enough to do a flying dismount with it! I saw

:40:40. > :40:43.the pictures and thought you are kidding. Actually, I was looking

:40:43. > :40:48.forward to do it and I got my trainers and I didn't realise I had

:40:48. > :40:53.to do it on horseback until about the day before. It was pretty

:40:53. > :40:59.amazing. I didn't realise what the Olympics means to everybody. We

:40:59. > :41:03.only got a week left. It's great to be part of it. Now you have ridden

:41:03. > :41:06.a Cheltenham winner. That's right and I didn't have to jump anything,

:41:06. > :41:10.that was lucky. I have to agree, I couldn't believe... You have done

:41:10. > :41:12.it, as well. I did it in Newbury and I got emotional about it,

:41:12. > :41:17.because all these people are there and children and adults all

:41:17. > :41:24.cheering and you suddenly think - and they say to you before you are

:41:24. > :41:29.the only person at that time in the world in charge of the flame, I got

:41:29. > :41:33.wb -- wobbly about it. You don't realise just carrying that torch,

:41:33. > :41:36.because within seconds everything is going to go like clockwork. I

:41:36. > :41:41.guess about six hours ahead to get everybody in the right place at the

:41:41. > :41:45.right time and to be doing it for 60 days is amazing. Amazing and

:41:45. > :41:48.they're great people helping run it. It all starts next week. We better

:41:48. > :41:54.ask you about the chances of Masked Marvel, whether you think the

:41:54. > :42:02.ground is all right and what you think of the race, overall? Start

:42:02. > :42:06.now? We are waiting! I have ridden classic winner. Johnnie is sweet on

:42:06. > :42:10.the horse. He had a lot of excuses at Newmarket, didn't handle the

:42:10. > :42:14.track. He will like the ground? Like the ground, he is good in the

:42:14. > :42:19.strait. Probably good to soft in the back. You know, he is an

:42:19. > :42:24.amazing King George. Not just one horse can win it, there is about

:42:24. > :42:29.five or six. Looking at the field, if you give me a choice which one I

:42:30. > :42:33.would like to ride I wouldn't know to be honest, I like Sea Moon, an

:42:33. > :42:38.improving horse. St Nicholas Abbey has been very good last two times.

:42:38. > :42:43.Then the Arc winner. She hasn't run well, mind you. And Nathaniel as

:42:44. > :42:48.well. Nathaniel won The Eclipse. It's going to be a fantastic race.

:42:48. > :42:51.The Japanese Derby winner. He has a mountain to climb. For a three-

:42:51. > :42:57.year-old to travel halfway across the world to take on the best of

:42:57. > :43:01.Europe, he's got a big task ahead. Have hu a word with William Buick

:43:01. > :43:07.about the horse? I did, yes. you going to let us know, or not?

:43:07. > :43:12.He said to me I am not without a chance. Gave me some good hope.

:43:12. > :43:15.wish Frankie luck. Just look at some of these runners for the

:43:15. > :43:21.Summer Mile. Let's go to Jim to look at one that went down early

:43:21. > :43:25.and check on the betting. Pastoral Player, just a little bit

:43:25. > :43:31.fractious coming on to the course. He does go down early to the start.

:43:31. > :43:37.This is his normal trend. You can see Daryl Holland there showing

:43:37. > :43:40.quite a lot of balance and skill to stay in the saddle as this horse

:43:40. > :43:47.just is not on his best behaviour and that's very much the reason why

:43:47. > :43:57.he goes to the start early. He is down there safely now. This is the

:43:57. > :44:22.

:44:22. > :44:28.favourite Carlton House in a moment but let's look at a few of the

:44:28. > :44:32.others that have have chances and one - could have chances of

:44:33. > :44:38.finishing second, because Willie you think Carlton House is a

:44:38. > :44:46.certainty. Questioning, they're just in such good form, his horses

:44:46. > :44:49.and he and William are hugely successful team. The Queen just

:44:49. > :44:53.passing by, and she has favourite in this race. Tell me about

:44:53. > :44:58.Questioning, he is a solid horse. Runs consistent. Like Willie said,

:44:58. > :45:02.they're all going for second. If Carlton House produces his form...

:45:02. > :45:07.Most of the horses in the race are coming up, and he is going down.

:45:07. > :45:13.That's it. Basically, that's enough to say that he should win this race.

:45:13. > :45:19.A penalty kick. And Italian taking it. Exactly, we are in business

:45:19. > :45:25.then. Looks well enough, Questioning. This is Tullius. He

:45:25. > :45:29.has won all three starts since he switched to Andrew and he is the

:45:29. > :45:33.only horse to come into this race off the back of a win last time out,

:45:33. > :45:39.but this is a different class of race and I wonder whether he will

:45:39. > :45:44.struggle. He has made running in the past and I don't foresee - he

:45:44. > :45:48.could be really close to the pace and might nick a length or two

:45:48. > :45:57.around the bend. As you said, he will be actually riding him

:45:57. > :46:02.possibly for second money. That's not - good prize money, 56,000 to

:46:02. > :46:09.the winning horse. I can't get away from Carlton House. He is so much

:46:09. > :46:16.superior to the others. The official figures say he is - only

:46:16. > :46:21.got 5lbs in hand. Still a lot, if you take 5lb off... Let's look at

:46:21. > :46:26.him finishing second to So You Think. The reason they're dropping

:46:26. > :46:31.back down to a mile is he's come there with a furlong to run and

:46:31. > :46:40.looked like he could win it. I was in the race and I was unlucky,

:46:40. > :46:43.stopped for a run. I remember when I went past Ryan after the line he

:46:43. > :46:47.just turned round to me and said we are going to drop him back to a

:46:47. > :46:50.mile. He gave in. So You Think passed through. He had more stamina

:46:50. > :46:54.and you can see the horse did not finish that day and that's why they

:46:54. > :46:58.wraut him -- brought him back to a mile. He was in a battle for a

:46:58. > :47:02.furlong and a half with one of the best best horses in the world.

:47:02. > :47:07.only thing that might not suit him is there if isn't enough pace, he

:47:07. > :47:11.can be keen. I would say that Ryan Moore today, if Frankie Dettori was

:47:12. > :47:15.riding that horse today he would make the running. Just let him

:47:15. > :47:20.slide along, go his own pace, because all you want for this horse

:47:20. > :47:26.to do today is to do what it can do and nothing else in the race will

:47:26. > :47:31.get near him, is that correct? T will be pace. With Red Jazz and

:47:31. > :47:41.Tullius. It won't be a crawl, tphouf get -- enough to get settled

:47:41. > :47:44.and find rhythm. You don't think he is a thinker? He is a thinker to

:47:44. > :47:50.get into the stalls. Ryan Moore taking his time, making sure that

:47:50. > :47:55.the horse isn't scared by the big crowd. It was interesting Hughy

:47:55. > :47:59.Morrison saying of his horse Chil The Kite, that he thought he heard

:47:59. > :48:03.the crowd. He looks fine. He is going to be taken down gently. He

:48:03. > :48:13.will arrive at the mile start and among those he will see there will

:48:13. > :48:14.

:48:14. > :48:17.be Mick Fitzgerald. We are actually seeing Hughy

:48:17. > :48:21.Morrison's inmate getting collected. Horses are creatures of habit, they

:48:21. > :48:26.like to have people around them, day in, day out. You can see

:48:26. > :48:29.immediately here we have Barry Oldman, he is the farrier, just in

:48:29. > :48:36.case anything goes wrong. There is the team of stall handlers all

:48:36. > :48:40.ready for action of the -- for action and to load them quickly.

:48:41. > :48:45.better let you go. Best of luck and fingers crossed. Fingers crossed

:48:45. > :48:53.for you. Let's hope it turns out to be King George everybody expects.

:48:53. > :48:57.Can you send a doctor if we have this contagious disease? Thank you,

:48:57. > :49:07.Frankie. Let's look at the market with Jim.

:49:07. > :49:22.

:49:22. > :49:26.Runners arriving at the post and of Richard Hannon and Hughes. They

:49:26. > :49:31.have Cai Shen, the lowest rated of of these horses but has run well at

:49:31. > :49:35.Ascot twice, second in the Britannia last year and 6th from

:49:36. > :49:39.not a great draw in the Royal Hunt Cup. Could be the running, I

:49:39. > :49:43.suppose. We were talking about tackics. Richard Hughes is a

:49:43. > :49:48.dangerous man, if you leave him alone in front. This horse who ran

:49:48. > :49:52.in a listed race at Sandown over a mile and a quarter, so he really

:49:52. > :49:58.wouldn't want to be going too slow because he is a horse that will get

:49:58. > :50:02.every yard of a mile, even the ground is on the holding side, from

:50:02. > :50:09.the start down to the turn from home. The ground is always a bit

:50:09. > :50:13.slower than in the strait. Richard Hannon won this race last year with

:50:13. > :50:21.Dick Turpin. Carlton House, he looked settled early on and still

:50:21. > :50:30.is. Gone down there very nicely. Very relaxed. Seems to be in very

:50:30. > :50:35.good humour with himself. Which always helps, that is true.

:50:35. > :50:38.Red Jazz there, trained by Charles Hills. It was interesting what you

:50:38. > :50:43.were saying to Frankie, if he was on Carlton House he would let him

:50:43. > :50:48.making the running. You wouldn't if you have frontruners, you drop in

:50:48. > :50:55.behind. But if they were want to play games and try to get Carlton

:50:55. > :51:01.House beat by not making a running and going slow, - just let Carlton

:51:01. > :51:05.House slide on and make the running. A couple of words on Red Jazz. Won

:51:05. > :51:10.the Group 2 challenge Stakes at Newmarket. Hasn't been good since

:51:10. > :51:14.but finished second in the Lennox last year. He is a good horse.

:51:14. > :51:18.horse, he is a horse that you would have to think possibly would finish

:51:18. > :51:24.second. Well, have a chance of second. He is a very strong type of

:51:24. > :51:30.animal. A mile would be his ideal trip. He has run over seven. You

:51:30. > :51:33.would think he would be suited by today's trip of going. He has run

:51:33. > :51:38.on the strait a lot. Going around the turn just might help him.

:51:38. > :51:48.is a horse coming back after a long break, Set The Trend, hasn't run

:51:48. > :51:49.

:51:49. > :51:52.for 294 days. His first start for David O' Meara.

:51:52. > :51:56.Set The Trend. Your brother trained him before. The question is, is he

:51:56. > :52:00.ready for a race of this quality having not run for so long?

:52:00. > :52:04.Obviously he's changed trainers and changed in the way to train the

:52:04. > :52:08.horse. He's gone up to Yorkshire, maybe the Yorkshire air might be

:52:08. > :52:13.better. They'll be trying new things. Obviously, they're going

:52:13. > :52:18.for a bit of prize money. He looks well. He has filled out. Looks well.

:52:18. > :52:21.Mick is down there, any visual clues from you? All I can say is

:52:21. > :52:26.that Ryan Moore has timed it to perfection on Carlton House. He got

:52:26. > :52:32.him down here, and he's gone straight into the stalls. He looks

:52:32. > :52:38.very calm. The other ones, like number seven, Set The Trend, looks

:52:38. > :52:42.relaxed. There's nothing playing up at the moment.

:52:42. > :52:49.Ryan Moore, he recommended the drop back to the mile, to both the Queen

:52:49. > :52:54.and Sir Michael Stoute. See the blindfold on there. He will

:52:54. > :52:59.put his hand on the handle and be ready to pull that hood off, just

:52:59. > :53:06.as the starter is about to let them go. There he is, reaches forward.

:53:06. > :53:10.Grabs the hood. He is watching the starter. They're off and running.

:53:10. > :53:15.Mising it badly there was Pastoral Player. By four or five lengths.

:53:15. > :53:20.Carlton House on the outside began OK. Looking over Ryan Moore, on the

:53:20. > :53:25.inside Cai Shen is booting up there. Tullius with the white cap and

:53:25. > :53:31.behind them Set The Trend. Further back in the field behind them,

:53:31. > :53:33.Fanunalter out deep on the track is Questioning. Further back in the

:53:33. > :53:40.field Red Jazz. After missing the start Pastoral Player has caught

:53:40. > :53:44.the field. Racing up now towards the 5-furlong marker. Carlton House

:53:45. > :53:51.has got over in second. One off the rail. A length away in third, the

:53:51. > :53:55.inside, Tullius. In the centre Set The Trend. Questioning. Behind them

:53:55. > :53:58.is Fanunalter, followed by Red Jazz and then Pastoral Player. They head

:53:58. > :54:05.up towards the entrance to the home strait. Three and a half furlongs

:54:05. > :54:08.to travel. Cai Shen travelling quietly by a half length to Carlton

:54:08. > :54:12.House. Three parts away then out deeper is Questioning coming into

:54:12. > :54:15.the picture now. Followed by Tullius. Further back is Set The

:54:15. > :54:21.Trend from Red Jazz. They swing the corner now and straighten up for

:54:21. > :54:24.home. Two furlongs to go. Now he says go, Ryan Moore on Carlton

:54:24. > :54:33.House. Grabs the lead from Cai Shen. Behind them is Questioning.

:54:33. > :54:36.Followed further back by Tullius. Fanunalter. A furlong to go.

:54:36. > :54:40.Carlton House can't shake off Cai Shen. Pastoral Player getting up on

:54:41. > :54:44.the fence and Fanunalter, Fanunalter is flying! Fanunalter

:54:44. > :54:47.and Pastoral Player. Fanunalter doing better and Fanunalter

:54:48. > :54:52.Fanunalter has got up to beat Pastoral Player. Third place behind

:54:52. > :54:56.them is Tullius. Followed by Cai Shen, Carlton House, disappointing.

:54:56. > :55:06.Followed then by Set The Trend and further back is Questioning and Red

:55:06. > :55:10.

:55:10. > :55:15.Jazz. Fanunalter, Olivier Peslier at 33-1. The Frenchman, he has

:55:15. > :55:21.pounced and he's got the money. Here he is on the outside.

:55:21. > :55:25.It's Fanunalter who gets up to win it by a head to a neck. Pastoral

:55:25. > :55:32.Player, who missed the start so badly, we saw that. Three parts

:55:32. > :55:36.away then in third, Tullius. Then tight 4th. Far side Cai Shen, near

:55:36. > :55:41.side Carlton House. Absolutely locked together, leave that to the

:55:41. > :55:46.judge. Behind them is Set The Trend. It's

:55:46. > :55:53.a dead heat 4th, that's official. Then Questioning behind them,

:55:53. > :56:00.followed then by Red Jazz. Still waiting for one more, I think. But

:56:00. > :56:10.no doubt about the winner, Fanunalter. Ridden by Olivier

:56:10. > :56:14.

:56:14. > :56:18.Peslier. His first start for trainer Michael Wigham. A notable

:56:18. > :56:28.victory for him. But a disappointment, the favourite

:56:28. > :56:29.

:56:29. > :56:35.Carlton House who pulled too hard early, was far too eager, too keen.

:56:35. > :56:38.It's a big upset in the Summer Mile. I think most of the crowd here are

:56:38. > :56:46.in shock, not just that Carlton House hasn't won but not even

:56:46. > :56:50.finished in the first three. Ryan Moore tries to drive for home. He

:56:50. > :56:55.was too keen. Then when we got to the front he still was fighting for

:56:55. > :56:58.his head. He's fading in these stages as the quicker horses, those

:56:58. > :57:01.with more acceleration come past. A huge run from the winner,

:57:01. > :57:06.Fanunalter. But also from Pastoral Player, bear in mind that

:57:06. > :57:09.Fanunalter finished second in this race last year to Dick Turpin so is

:57:09. > :57:13.well suited but we didn't consider him because he had been

:57:13. > :57:22.disappointing on three starts at Meydon. He didn't look on paper as

:57:22. > :57:27.if he had any chance. He ran his last race in Dubai and ran poorly

:57:27. > :57:36.that day. Of course, these connections have picked the horse

:57:36. > :57:44.up virtually and paid for himself... 57,000. He has actually paid for

:57:44. > :57:48.himself and Mick Wigham - there he is on the telephone, he has put

:57:48. > :57:52.weight on since his riding days, he had a winner at Newmarket well

:57:52. > :57:57.backed. His horses are very much in form and he's only got a small

:57:57. > :58:03.string but his horses are running well. Congratulations to them and

:58:03. > :58:07.to you if you picked him at 33-1. Olivier with his lucky butterfly on

:58:07. > :58:13.the collar of his colours and he will be on Reliable Man in the King

:58:13. > :58:17.George at 4.35pm. A major triumph for the trainer, Michael Wigham

:58:17. > :58:21.who's done exceptionally well with the material that he's been able to

:58:21. > :58:27.secure. This has been a real coup, securing

:58:27. > :58:31.this horse. He got it from Marco Botti and it's a decision that

:58:31. > :58:35.owners and trainers have to make many, many times, and that's

:58:35. > :58:38.whether to dispose of a horse, whether to put him up for auction,

:58:38. > :58:43.get rid of him to another stable and that's what they decided with

:58:43. > :58:49.Fanunalter, sold for 67,000. Used to race in the same colours as his

:58:49. > :58:55.sire. And now this horse has come out and won the Summer Mile. It's

:58:55. > :58:58.been a smart buy. The time 1.41.36, about three

:58:58. > :59:05.seconds outside the record, the distance is a neck and three

:59:05. > :59:15.quarters of a length. Let's check the full results of

:59:15. > :59:33.

:59:33. > :59:36.this Transformers and Rectifiers Fantastic stuff from your horse.

:59:36. > :59:42.For a moment I thought you weren't going to get a run. Yeah, but the

:59:42. > :59:47.trainer before say more is unlucky, much is better, I say, I hope not

:59:47. > :59:52.unluck y but not too long, no really place to go, so then it come

:59:52. > :59:56.late, I take my time, I am blocked, no place to go and last furlong it

:59:56. > :00:03.just keep going. Lovely. Reliable Man, can he do the same for you

:00:03. > :00:07.today? I hope so. Now just see how the track. Ascot is fantastic track.

:00:07. > :00:10.Lovely weather. Now I hope this continue. I am going to let you go

:00:10. > :00:15.and grab a word with the winning trainer. Michael, congratulations,

:00:15. > :00:22.your first Group winner. Former champion apprentice jockey, how

:00:22. > :00:29.good is this for you? Well, I get more pleasure out of it, the riding,

:00:29. > :00:32.there was too much time and didn't eat very much and I am getting a

:00:33. > :00:38.lot of enjoyment, more enjoyment out of the training and being with

:00:38. > :00:45.horses. You spent a lot of money, 67,000 on this horse, what's the

:00:45. > :00:49.key to getting him back to his best today? We just brought him along

:00:49. > :00:59.quietly and we don't gallop him a lot and he's been doing a lot of

:00:59. > :00:59.

:00:59. > :01:02.swimming. He swims well. We thought we could improve for today, but

:01:03. > :01:09.obviously I was wrong. Nothing wrong with being wrong. What sort

:01:09. > :01:13.of plans would you have for him, can he be good enough for Champions

:01:13. > :01:18.Day. I have to think about that, on the way to Ascot he was going to

:01:18. > :01:23.run here and we thought we will run well, probably one or two too good

:01:23. > :01:29.for us and to a Group 3 in Norway. But I think we will be shelfing

:01:30. > :01:37.that now and have to go home and have a word with his owner and have

:01:37. > :01:40.a rethink and work out what we are going to do at a later stage

:01:40. > :01:50.because obviously he still retains a lot of his ability.

:01:50. > :01:51.

:01:51. > :01:54.Congratulations on your first Group on the edge of the winners'

:01:54. > :02:00.enclosure with Ryan Moore and Sir Sir Michael Stoute going through

:02:00. > :02:04.what went wrong with Carlton House, and talking about how keen he was

:02:04. > :02:10.early on, and you wonder now - you know... Where do we go from here?

:02:10. > :02:13.Well, quite. Exactly. As we saw - we saw him walking up and down, and

:02:13. > :02:17.it looks as though they have had a little bit of feet problem - his

:02:17. > :02:21.front feet have definitely got - you know, they've done a lot of

:02:21. > :02:27.farrier work on him, so has that got anything to do with it? I don't

:02:27. > :02:32.know. Maybe. Let's take more of a look at the race in detail with

:02:32. > :02:36.Steve and Ian. So the steward's inquiry pinned

:02:36. > :02:40.connections to Carlton House. We can have a look at him here out of

:02:40. > :02:45.stall eight. He pulls too hard. He gives Darryll Holland a terrible

:02:45. > :02:49.time down to post. When the stalls open, he messes around a bit as

:02:49. > :02:53.well, doesn't he? Yes, he's always had issues in the stalls. He's

:02:53. > :02:57.awkward coming out. Luckily, he's a horse that comes from the back. So

:02:57. > :03:02.him breaking really quick isn't a necessity anyway. On the extreme

:03:02. > :03:06.right, because of the his draw run Moore is out there. No horses

:03:06. > :03:10.around him, and this horse has take and fierce hold, hasn't he? He is

:03:10. > :03:15.on the outside. He knows there's not going to be any pace in the

:03:15. > :03:18.race. He has two choices he knows, forward or back. He's let him slip,

:03:18. > :03:21.and unfortunately, the horse hasn't settled at all for him. You can see

:03:21. > :03:25.him chucking his head around. He got a little bit warm when he was

:03:25. > :03:29.down at the start, but the warning signs were there from quite some

:03:29. > :03:32.way out.Hy held on to him as much as he could do. He was almost by

:03:32. > :03:37.the looks of things in front inside the last couple of furlong, but

:03:37. > :03:41.let's have a look at the head-on inside the closing stages. The

:03:41. > :03:46.winner, Fanunalter - remember he was runner up in this 12 months ago

:03:46. > :03:51.- there is Pastoral Player in the blue colours. They're going to swap

:03:51. > :03:55.sides because Olivier Peslier has to make his way out to get a

:03:55. > :03:59.challenge Yes, from the two pole. You can see he's nursing him there,

:03:59. > :04:04.and in a minute he's hard on the steel. You can see there he just

:04:04. > :04:08.comes good. He has a gap and has a switch to his left. Luckily, he's

:04:08. > :04:15.going good, just engineers a bit of a gap for him. Once he's out, he's

:04:15. > :04:18.gone and the horse picked up. the horse picks up on the extreme

:04:18. > :04:23.left. The winner ran disappointingly in Dubai. I wonder

:04:23. > :04:27.if the fact he had to get in and out and weave around horses

:04:27. > :04:32.interested him more than normal. may well have done. The second

:04:32. > :04:36.horse, Pastoral Player is a sixth or seventh horse - Fanunalter

:04:36. > :04:42.probably enjoyed being able to travel, thinking, this is great I

:04:42. > :04:48.am on a good day. So Fanunalter, they have already got 556,000 back

:04:48. > :04:52.on what they bought him for, not bad business so far. Transformers

:04:52. > :04:59.and Rectifyers, the sponsors of the race. The Managing Director made

:04:59. > :05:05.the presentation. Olivier Peslier there alongside Michael Wigham,

:05:05. > :05:10.Mick Wigham, the trainer. The report back from what the trainer

:05:10. > :05:14.said - the lack of pace meant he didn't settle, and they weren't

:05:14. > :05:18.sure yet whether they stay at a mile - find a mile and a one race...

:05:18. > :05:22.They won't be going a mile and one or a mile and a quarter, not after

:05:22. > :05:25.that because he was very rank, and he was pulling. The draw didn't

:05:25. > :05:29.help him because he was on the outside. They didn't go the pace

:05:29. > :05:34.that he would want to drop him in behind the other horses, so he was

:05:34. > :05:38.in daylight, and he's a very generous horse, and he was giving,

:05:38. > :05:42.giving giving, and Ryan Moore couldn't get him back to get him in

:05:42. > :05:46.behind and get him relaxed, so he was just give, give, give, and he

:05:46. > :05:50.just ran out of petrol a furlong from home, so they definitely won't

:05:50. > :05:53.be going to a mile and a quarter. No, and I would think they'd hope

:05:53. > :05:58.not to be drawn on the outside because that didn't help thingers

:05:58. > :06:05.aly on. Missed the kick this time. That's what they'll do -s any start,

:06:05. > :06:07.relax him, then get him to do it the proper way. Exactly. All is not

:06:07. > :06:12.yet lost for Carlton House. getting that way. When you think

:06:12. > :06:15.about the city of Cologne, you might think it's Germany's third

:06:15. > :06:20.largest city, has enormous museums. You have been to some of them.

:06:20. > :06:24.It has a museum entirely dedicated to chocolate. I didn't go to that

:06:24. > :06:30.one. You might have! God. There is me thinking I would miss working

:06:30. > :06:35.with you. Anyway! Yes. It has this - this big cathedral has a big

:06:35. > :06:45.trade fair as well, but none of these were the reasons Mick

:06:45. > :06:46.

:06:46. > :06:50.FitzGerald was visiting Cologne. I'm on a bridge over the Rhine

:06:50. > :06:54.River in Cologne city centre, not where you would expect to find the

:06:54. > :07:02.racing heartland but only a stone's throw away from here you'll final

:07:02. > :07:11.the Arc winner Dandedream. He's coming here to hope to make it a

:07:11. > :07:16.big race double. The first thing that strikes me

:07:17. > :07:21.about her is she's not very big. Not as big as you thought. When you

:07:21. > :07:24.see Dandedream, she's so good. I don't believe it. She's so small,

:07:24. > :07:30.and the weight is not too heavy, and she's so good. I don't believe

:07:30. > :07:35.it. Yes. It's a dream. It is a dream. Always when I get a jump on

:07:35. > :07:38.her, I say, how is it this filly can win the Arc? I don't believe it

:07:38. > :07:43.because you think, she have a big heart, but where is she getting the

:07:43. > :07:47.energy? After the race, after one minute, she's not breathing, so

:07:47. > :07:53.they must have big lungs. That's the key for a racehorse. Your

:07:53. > :07:58.biggest day racing - when she won the Arc? It's nice to have a horse

:07:58. > :08:03.in this brai, nobody thinks that Germany can win the Arc, and for

:08:03. > :08:09.that reason, definitely this was my biggest day and also for Germany,

:08:09. > :08:14.for all the racing of the country. But the way she ran in the Arc was

:08:14. > :08:18.unbelievable, and no horse can beat her on this day. When she kicked at

:08:18. > :08:23.this rate, it was impressive. anybody's race, the Arc as they

:08:23. > :08:27.race up the home spread. Now Dan for Germany takes it clearly,

:08:27. > :08:32.sprinting three lengths in front of her opponent, followed by St

:08:33. > :08:38.Nicholas Abbey and So You Think, but Dandedream goes on to win the

:08:38. > :08:42.Arc for Germany. The greatest moment in my history. It's

:08:42. > :08:48.fantastic. I don't believe it. see your celebrations when you came

:08:48. > :08:51.back down the track... All of my emotions getting all over my body,

:08:51. > :08:56.and I think if you win a race like that, you have to celebrate like

:08:56. > :09:02.that. I think when a football player wins the World Championships,

:09:02. > :09:08.they celebrate as well, so yeah, that's why my emotions came out.

:09:08. > :09:16.The first horse, Star Appeal, 1975, to win the race - what did it mean

:09:16. > :09:19.for Germany? Yes, for the German racing, was very good, so a lot of

:09:19. > :09:23.edgers look for German horses now. LAUGHTER

:09:23. > :09:27.I think it was good for German racing. What was the King George?

:09:28. > :09:31.It's almost like the English Arc. Is she good enough to win? I hope

:09:31. > :09:35.so. Maybe if we place in the race, we're happy to. Win is better. We

:09:35. > :09:40.hope we place. Is a After to win the Arc with this filly, I'm just

:09:40. > :09:44.happy we get the possibility and to run, and we cannot lose - just win.

:09:44. > :09:54.If we get in a good race and a place under the first four horses,

:09:54. > :09:55.

:09:55. > :09:59.we are happy. bit of attitude as well the way she

:09:59. > :10:02.biffed Mick out of the way - the way I do sometimes. She was

:10:02. > :10:06.impressive on Arc day. If we have a look at that again, there is not

:10:06. > :10:11.only Dandedream to look out for, you have big markers in there as

:10:11. > :10:18.well like So You Think, but also St Nicholas Abbey is in there - Masked

:10:18. > :10:24.Marvel. Masked Marvel, who was very disappointing. Lava Man was pretty

:10:24. > :10:29.disappointing as well. She absolutely streaks clear. Took off,

:10:29. > :10:35.but the ground would be faster there than it will be today. That

:10:35. > :10:38.ground was... It had dried out. had. If I remember right, it was a

:10:38. > :10:44.lovely, you know, summer's - felt like a summer's day, although it

:10:44. > :10:48.was the first Sunday in October, but she did - she spread eagle that

:10:48. > :10:54.field that day. She took off. has been disappointing since.

:10:54. > :10:57.She ran - she was in a four-runner race. They didn't go very fast. It

:10:58. > :11:02.was a Grand Prix. There was only four runners, and they didn't go

:11:02. > :11:08.that fast, and of course, she needs a very strong pace to run at, and

:11:08. > :11:13.she didn't get that it day. There is Daniel Stark talking with

:11:13. > :11:18.Darryll Holland. It was a remarkable run from Pastoral Player

:11:18. > :11:21.in the Summer Mile. They are laughing anyway. Exactly,

:11:22. > :11:26.saying, "Sit tight". Craig Williams is not in the jockeys' training

:11:26. > :11:30.room - not yet, because he's out walking the course. He'll be

:11:30. > :11:35.wearing the colours of Dunaden. He gets along with there horse really

:11:35. > :11:40.well. He's making sure everybody knows who he is. Exactly. He won

:11:40. > :11:45.the Jalon Cup but wasn't onboard for the Melbourne Cup because he

:11:45. > :11:52.was suspended. That's a very brisk walk he's doing. Yes. He was

:11:52. > :12:00.relocated to Australia. He was over here a few seasons riding for Mick

:12:00. > :12:06.Channon. He's ridden 29 times at Ascot. He was here for the Royal

:12:06. > :12:10.meeting. His last win was September 2000. He is walking very fast.

:12:10. > :12:14.Somebody who recalls walks very slowly whatever is going on is John

:12:14. > :12:18.Gosden. He has two runners in the races, Nathaniel and Masked Marvel.

:12:18. > :12:28.He's making his way slowly to the parade ring because coming up next

:12:28. > :12:38.we have a field of 28 for the pet Betfair. Here is the full list with

:12:38. > :12:38.

:12:38. > :14:18.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 100 seconds

:14:18. > :14:22.Lee, a Grand National-winning jockey now riding on the flat with

:14:22. > :14:26.great success. Earlier he spoke to us. You were asked to ride

:14:26. > :14:30.Hawkeyethenoo. He has a great record here. He won the Victoria

:14:30. > :14:35.Cup and ran the Royal meeting recently. How confident are you

:14:35. > :14:39.about his chance today? He ran well in the Wokingham and in the July

:14:39. > :14:43.Cup. If you get the run of the race, he gets the splits, et cetera, he

:14:43. > :14:47.must have chance. The ground would be to his liking and seven - maybe

:14:47. > :14:53.to his liking, so fingers crossed along with a lot of other stuff

:14:53. > :14:57.crossed. Graham, you have obviously ridden at Ascot a in the past as a

:14:57. > :15:03.jump jockey. What is the main difference when you're riding in a

:15:03. > :15:08.flat in a competitive race with 20- odd horses as opposed to a short

:15:08. > :15:10.field over three miles over fences? It's probably a very Irish thing to

:15:11. > :15:13.say, but there is no obstacles in front of you.

:15:13. > :15:19.LAUGHTER Yeah, it's different. It's quicker,

:15:19. > :15:23.obviousably, do you know, at the end of the day - at the end of the

:15:23. > :15:28.day, the best horse usually wins. Like over jumps? No matter whether

:15:28. > :15:34.they're on the jumps or on the flat, best of luck. Thank you. He's doing

:15:34. > :15:39.great, Graham Lee is, 29 runners since he switched coaches. He'll be

:15:39. > :15:43.on Hawkeyethenoo. That is Lightning Cloud, Amy Ryan riding for her dad

:15:43. > :15:49.Kevin. She has been doing so well, Amy Ryan. I guess one of the

:15:49. > :15:55.biggest wins she had would be when she won the Challenge Cup on

:15:55. > :16:00.Advanced here. This horse very progressive last season. Ran pretty

:16:00. > :16:04.well in the Victoria Cup. In the Wokingham was favourite, didn't run

:16:04. > :16:07.so well, but a definite chance. Yeah, most of these horses that are

:16:07. > :16:11.running in this race - there is a very good prize. They're all

:16:11. > :16:15.meeting - a lot of these horses are meeting again. It's the ones that

:16:15. > :16:20.get the best run and have the best draw - they jump out and go where

:16:20. > :16:23.the race is. Officially, this is the best horse in the race, Eton

:16:23. > :16:28.Forever, but his penalty for that is because it's a handicap he has

:16:28. > :16:35.to carry the most weight. He has nine stone, seven. He was - he won

:16:35. > :16:40.the Spring Mile at Doncaster last year and took the Buckingham Palace

:16:40. > :16:45.last month. That was a good race. Even though he has 9, 7, he's a

:16:45. > :16:50.horse that has lots of ability. You would have to think, if he's not

:16:50. > :16:53.running in these heritage handicaps, he'd be running in Group-listed

:16:53. > :16:58.races. Let's hear from his trainer. It's a

:16:58. > :17:03.big task for him. On the face of things, he has to give way to very

:17:03. > :17:08.smart horses. How were you impressed with what he did in the

:17:08. > :17:11.Buckingham Stakes at Royal Ascot? It all went well for him. Today is

:17:11. > :17:16.a different proposition. He has a lot more weight, and it makes the

:17:16. > :17:20.task tougher, but you know, we look back, and we think, well, if he had

:17:20. > :17:23.six pounds more on his saddle at rile Ascot, would he have won or

:17:23. > :17:27.gone close? And I don't know if he'd have won, but I think he would

:17:27. > :17:32.have gone very close that day. He really streaked clear of his field

:17:32. > :17:35.his side, and I think if he can put that level of performance in again

:17:35. > :17:39.today, it's tougher, but I don't think he'd be far away. You said

:17:39. > :17:43.everything clicked that day at Ascot during the Royal meeting. Are

:17:43. > :17:47.the signs are that everything that clicked that day are ready to click

:17:47. > :17:51.again Dade I hope so. I think we have very similar conditions today,

:17:51. > :17:55.perhaps slightly dead ground, but good ground, good to soft, border

:17:55. > :18:00.line, very similar to a Royal meeting, and obviously the same

:18:00. > :18:04.track, the same distance. The horse seems in very good form, so fingers

:18:04. > :18:08.crossed. I hope lightning strikes twice. Thanks for talking to us.

:18:08. > :18:11.Good luck. Thank you very much. showed you a shot in the last race

:18:11. > :18:15.of Pastoral Player playing up on the way down to the start. Didn't

:18:15. > :18:18.stop him running very well. Let's hope the same is true for Edinburgh

:18:18. > :18:23.Knight because just giving William Buick a few problems and not that

:18:23. > :18:27.keen to go forward, which isn't great for a racehorse. This is

:18:27. > :18:31.where a horse - he - this is hoarse coming out on to the race course,

:18:31. > :18:37.gets on the grass. He gets himself so excited, he doesn't know what to

:18:37. > :18:42.do with himself. You know, they - a lot of horses do this, then look -

:18:42. > :18:45.he jumps up. He'll be fine. It is just his heart rate gets up and

:18:45. > :18:49.pumping away as they're coming out on to the track because they know

:18:49. > :18:53.they're going to be galloping. Look at that! Butter wouldn't melt in

:18:53. > :19:03.his mouth now. It's just, the horse is getting too excited. Let's see

:19:03. > :19:05.

:19:05. > :19:15.where Edinburgh Knight features in subsequently, wide betting, the

:19:15. > :19:15.

:19:15. > :20:09.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 100 seconds

:20:09. > :20:13.field. 8-1 is the favourite, One is Al Muheer, took it in 2009,

:20:13. > :20:17.trained by Clive Brittain then. James Sullivan - the two of them

:20:18. > :20:21.looking for their first Ascot winner. He has been quite busy,

:20:21. > :20:26.actually. He ran - I think his last - between his last two races there,

:20:26. > :20:29.he ran within two days of one another. I think that was Haydock,

:20:29. > :20:33.Ripon, and he has been running - you know, he's been running well,

:20:33. > :20:38.but to say that he could win this - well, I wouldn't like to say he'd

:20:38. > :20:41.win it, but he's a horse with ability, and he's got a pair of

:20:41. > :20:47.blinkers there to just help him concentrate, and Ruth Carr is

:20:47. > :20:53.having a fantastic year. She's training lots and lots of winners,

:20:53. > :20:56.but as you said, Claire, she's nine pound lower than he was when

:20:56. > :21:00.trained by Clive Brittain, so if he's back to that you never know.

:21:00. > :21:04.He's seven years old now. Brae Hill is six years old. We have lots of

:21:04. > :21:11.old-timers in this, and they do tend to come back, and they run in

:21:11. > :21:15.it time after time. This was the horse that ran in Lincoln in March,

:21:15. > :21:19.finished fourth in the Victoria Cup his next start, definitely one to

:21:19. > :21:23.consider. His owner is such an enthusiastic owner of racehorses,

:21:23. > :21:26.and he has tonnes of them in training, and this is just the sort

:21:26. > :21:33.of race he likes. He ran in Newmarket, the big meeting here and

:21:34. > :21:37.the Heritage Handicap there - what was it, the Bunbury Cup. He was

:21:37. > :21:44.just beaten, so he's one of those genuine horses that you would love

:21:44. > :21:47.to own because he always gets his post, and he likes a little bit of

:21:47. > :21:52.cut in the ground which possibly he is going to get today. He might

:21:52. > :21:56.like it a little bit softer than it is on this Ascot track because this

:21:56. > :22:02.Ascot track - it dries out so quickly because it's - the race is

:22:02. > :22:05.on a lot of gravel here. Just a look there at Ryan Moore and

:22:05. > :22:10.Frankie Dettori - Ryan riding Bonnie Brae for David Elsworth, who

:22:10. > :22:12.was pretty progressive last season and again this year - second in the

:22:12. > :22:21.Victoria Cup. Would be another one, though, who may have a chance. This

:22:21. > :22:26.race coming up at 3.55. At 3.45pm obviously is the King George, and

:22:26. > :22:30.in that race, Craig A Williams will be riding Dunaden. Let's get the

:22:30. > :22:33.opportunity to have a word with him. Yeah, I grabbed him. We're going to

:22:33. > :22:38.see Dunaden's last run when he got hampered close to home. Many felt

:22:38. > :22:42.he was pretty unlucky, Craig. Yes, certainly. When he was

:22:42. > :22:46.inconvenienced in the straight for him to pick up the end of the race,

:22:46. > :22:49.then take considerable ground off Sea Moon it puts him in great stead

:22:49. > :22:53.for the King George today. Seeing him here, he's about to make his

:22:53. > :22:56.run. Suddenly, the gap starts to close. You can see Christoph, he's

:22:56. > :23:00.almost pre-empted it here. There is nothing you can do as aic. In that

:23:00. > :23:05.situation. Certainly. I think if you take the vision further back to

:23:05. > :23:08.the position he was the whole race, and unfortunately, Aden O'Brien's

:23:08. > :23:11.horse dragged him back to being third last. He was running third,

:23:11. > :23:14.fourth. He lost his position through bad luck, took him back to

:23:14. > :23:17.third or fourth, started to make his run. We have seen the

:23:17. > :23:21.inconvenience in the straight, and he still finished off second.

:23:21. > :23:25.a horse that comes good as well. You have ridden him twice - won him

:23:25. > :23:29.twice two, big races. She a big racehorse? Let's hope so. Today is

:23:29. > :23:34.a great race I think for a quality of racing in England for such a big

:23:34. > :23:38.purse and also for a Group 1 level. You have a great field, and Dunaden

:23:38. > :23:42.should make his presence felt. You're hoping to grab some sleep on

:23:42. > :23:45.the plane home? You have dashed over here from Australia. I have

:23:45. > :23:48.four children, so for me, I was quite lucky on the aeroplane I got

:23:48. > :23:52.peace and quiet. My wife in Australia doesn't. Don't tell her

:23:52. > :24:00.that, anyway. I actually enjoyed the flight over, to be honest.

:24:00. > :24:06.very best of luck. Thank you very see. Let's have a look at the

:24:06. > :24:16.betting as they start to load up this enormous field - Lightning

:24:16. > :24:28.

:24:28. > :24:32.More than two-thirds of the field locked away. Al Muheer, who has a

:24:32. > :24:37.good record here, going forward now, now trained by Ruth Carr and

:24:37. > :24:45.carrying the Sprint Keen racing colours. Field Of Dream, Richard

:24:45. > :24:49.Hughes is there. So many here with a chance. Just to go back to Bonnie

:24:49. > :24:53.Brae and what we meant to say was she was the one that won the

:24:53. > :24:59.Bunbury Cup only a week ago. Yes, and she obviously loves the soft

:24:59. > :25:02.ground. Hawkeyethenoo - you'll see Graham Lee. He always had such a

:25:02. > :25:07.beautiful position as a jump jockey and even more effective as a flat

:25:07. > :25:09.jockey to be so slow in the saddle, but not too many more to go for...

:25:09. > :25:15.He's a genuine horse too, Hawkeyethenoo. He's come all the

:25:15. > :25:24.way down from Scotland, Glasgow. He's trained near there. Jim Goldie,

:25:24. > :25:32.who is very successful at coming down here to Ascot. So the last two

:25:32. > :25:41.going forward. Noble Citizen is locked away. Steady, team. Steady.

:25:41. > :25:47.Steady. Whoa, Whoa, Whoa. No, no, no! A bit of shouting on the near

:25:47. > :25:51.side, as you can hear. That's Escape to Glory I think is playing

:25:51. > :25:55.up a little bit. Imperial Djay on the near side - a big field. That's

:25:55. > :25:58.it they're racing and away to the near side. Two on the near side -

:25:58. > :26:01.Bannock and Imperial Djay are away pretty smartly. They're quickly in

:26:01. > :26:09.the stride as they settle down in this Betfair Summer International

:26:09. > :26:18.Stakes. They're splitting into three groups, and Cavalier is

:26:18. > :26:22.showing pace. Noble Citizen in the centre. On the far side, Van Ellis

:26:22. > :26:28.and Highland Colori. It's Noble Citizen, Capaill Liath showing out

:26:28. > :26:32.in advance from Darren Egan -- Deire Na Sli on the near side.

:26:32. > :26:36.Dubai Hills is just behind them. Just up there as well too rat this

:26:36. > :26:40.stage is Brae Hill. Also being ridden along is the colour change

:26:40. > :26:43.Justonefortheroad, and they have split into two groups on the far

:26:43. > :26:47.side. In the near side, Capaill Liath in the centre is just showing

:26:47. > :26:50.the way from Brae Hill. Also there as well as Ducal joining in there,

:26:50. > :26:57.followed by Lightning Cloud. Now Joe Packet with the white face is

:26:57. > :27:01.starting to loom up. They have a furlong-and-a-half left to go now

:27:01. > :27:06.and Joe Packet moves up from Capaill Liath. Highland Colori is

:27:06. > :27:14.solo on the far side. Anybody's race here with a furlong to go.

:27:14. > :27:18.Highland Colori on the far side, maybe a fraction of a lead.

:27:18. > :27:22.Instance and Field Of Dream down the inside. Field Of Dream going

:27:22. > :27:24.home from Edinburgh Knight. Just behind them in third is

:27:24. > :27:29.Bertiewhittle followed by Global Village, then Highland Colori.

:27:29. > :27:34.Further back in the field is Hawkeyethenoo. They're followed by

:27:34. > :27:37.Noble Citizen. One of the last to finish is Van Ellis and company,

:27:37. > :27:41.Justonefortheroad. Let's have a look at them as they cross the line.

:27:41. > :27:46.It's Field Of Dream on the near side flashing home here and has

:27:46. > :27:49.gone up to win it - has gone up to win this Betfair Summer

:27:50. > :27:54.International Double Stakes. It's tight second, far side, is

:27:54. > :27:56.Edinburgh Knight. Near side is Bertiewhittle. Edinburgh Knight

:27:56. > :28:02.just grabbed second from Bertiewhittle and just behind them

:28:02. > :28:06.in third is - in fourth, I should say, Global Village. Then Highland

:28:06. > :28:11.Colori, who has been solo most of the way, had no company. Van Ellis

:28:11. > :28:15.was the only other one on that side. They're followed next then by Noble

:28:15. > :28:19.Citizen crossing the line. Hawkeyethenoo, Bonnie Brae just

:28:19. > :28:25.behind them is Joe Packet, who looks such a big chance as they

:28:25. > :28:27.went to the two. Imperial Djay, and behind them is Bannock, and they're

:28:27. > :28:33.followed by Bronze Prince and Al Muheer, then just behind them is

:28:34. > :28:38.Castles In The Air. Brae Hill was prominent, then Eton Forever, then

:28:38. > :28:43.Capaill Liath, who showed speed, and then three lengths away is

:28:43. > :28:47.Excellent Guest, Frankie Dettori, followed then by Ducal, then Dubai

:28:47. > :28:55.Hills, who is just behind them. Lightning Cloud is further back,

:28:55. > :29:00.then Van Ellis, who was on that far side, Deire Na Sli there, then

:29:00. > :29:05.Esprit De Midas and behind them Escape to Glory, and they are the

:29:05. > :29:09.stragglers. There's not too many to come. I think there is a couple.

:29:09. > :29:17.Here is the colour change. That's Justonefortheroad. And there's one

:29:17. > :29:21.still coming. That's on the far side, Van Der Art. I think that was

:29:21. > :29:31.right at the back right from the start. No doubt about number six,

:29:31. > :29:35.Field Of Dream trained by Jamie Osborne owned by Mr K Grundlack,

:29:35. > :29:40.trained by Richard Hughes, won by half a length. Second, number two,

:29:40. > :29:46.Edinburgh Knight, William Buick, third, number 23, Bertiewhittle

:29:46. > :29:53.ridden by Harry Bentley. Fourth, Global Village ridden by Ryan

:29:53. > :30:03.Clarke. That's the one-two-three- four, and Richard Hughes riding in

:30:03. > :30:03.

:30:03. > :30:07.supreme form has brought home the Hughes in full flight as well,

:30:07. > :30:10.winning these big handicaps, he is having a good season despite the

:30:10. > :30:15.fact he had to start it very late because of a suspension he picked

:30:15. > :30:24.up riding in India. That's the first winner he has ridden for

:30:24. > :30:32.trainer Jamie Osbourne since twin. -- 2001. This horse, Field Of Dream,

:30:32. > :30:37.he came home with a late rattle to finish 4th in The Hunt Cup, but

:30:37. > :30:40.this time he has won it. It's this group of four that really

:30:40. > :30:46.closed down and the one that finishes best of all, Edinburgh

:30:46. > :30:51.Knight ran fantastic as well. has worn visors in the past but

:30:51. > :30:54.today they put blinkers on him. Obviously, it has helped him and

:30:54. > :31:01.Jamie Osbourne, who is no stranger to this winners' enclosure here at

:31:01. > :31:05.Ascot, he has had Royal winners and he hasn't had a tkphraet -- a great

:31:05. > :31:15.number of winners this year but he is doing really well in his

:31:15. > :31:16.

:31:16. > :31:20.training. He will be very, very pleased at this. Apart from

:31:20. > :31:25.Bertiewhittle, in there in third of the low waegts, three of the four

:31:25. > :31:28.coming from the handicap, in a way the classier horses coming through

:31:28. > :31:32.and Edinburgh Knight, I should think William Buick having had

:31:32. > :31:40.problems going to the start when he was reversing in double quick time

:31:41. > :31:47.has run well. The one that never got into the horse, Van Der Art.

:31:47. > :31:51.But Bertiewhittle has run well from lower weights. Global Village, he

:31:51. > :31:58.finished fourth and the only one that had a low draw. All the others

:31:58. > :32:02.were in 22, 18, and 23. So, Global Village has run a good race indeed.

:32:02. > :32:09.Field Of Dream, it was his day today. Two years since he won his

:32:09. > :32:12.last race, and comes thaoer pick up this valuable handicap.

:32:12. > :32:17.So, Jamie as Bourne, the winning trainer. Richard Hughes in

:32:17. > :32:21.fantastic form at the moment. A double here yesterday and a double

:32:21. > :32:31.today, so far. At Bath on Thursday night I think it was, he had a

:32:31. > :32:32.

:32:32. > :32:42.treble. He is riding in superb form. Jamie as Bourne, he had a Royal

:32:42. > :32:45.

:32:45. > :32:53.Ascot winner, Treadwell, I think it was last year. Field Of Dream has

:32:53. > :32:57.won this very competitive 7-furlong race. You would call it a sprint.

:32:58. > :33:01.It's a little bit longer than a traditional sprint, but you

:33:01. > :33:04.certainly need to have plenty of speed to hold a position and be up

:33:04. > :33:14.there and run on again, takes a special type of horse. Let's look

:33:14. > :33:30.

:33:30. > :33:34.performance, because this horse doesn't really help you at the

:33:34. > :33:39.start, does he? He was good today, he was in a good frame of mind.

:33:39. > :33:44.Jamie said we have to get on him before the track. There was one

:33:44. > :33:48.horse being frisky in front of him, and then a wheelbarrow hit the

:33:48. > :33:52.gates, it didn't affect him. I would say he was in a good frame of

:33:52. > :33:56.mind. A sharp turn of foot he showed today. They went very fast.

:33:56. > :34:01.The first 100 yards they didn't go anywhere and all of a sudden they

:34:01. > :34:05.were really raising. He passed three horses. Things are going well

:34:05. > :34:08.for you at the moment. Long way it last. We have the winning trainer

:34:08. > :34:12.standing by. Congratulations, finally this horse has done it for

:34:12. > :34:19.you. A great run in The Hunt Cup, were you expecting a big one today?

:34:19. > :34:24.I wouldn't say finally, we had only had the horse a few months. He

:34:24. > :34:27.slipped down in the handicap. He was an unlucky loser in The Hunt

:34:27. > :34:32.Cup. I made an error to send him to Sandown on soft ground. With the

:34:32. > :34:37.ground drying here that was the key to it. He was a listed winner over

:34:37. > :34:42.seven as a younger horse. He has that bit of class, but, needs a bit

:34:42. > :34:46.of luck. He does. It's been time since he won, 2010 his last victory.

:34:46. > :34:51.He went to the Dubai Carnival and sometimes you can lose a horse out

:34:51. > :34:54.there, you can lose form. He was ready to win in Dubai and sadly -

:34:54. > :34:58.he ran a great race the first time and we felt he was ready to win out

:34:58. > :35:03.there and we hit the ballot problem twice. We had to bring him back.

:35:03. > :35:08.Ran him in the Lincoln. We lost him a little bit off the plane. We then

:35:08. > :35:11.gave him his break. Came back with The Hunt Cup in mind and were very

:35:11. > :35:15.unlucky then. So, here it's great when it works out. This is

:35:15. > :35:20.obviously a big part, would you have something else in mind? He was

:35:20. > :35:25.in the big mile handicap at goodwood. We have to rethink

:35:25. > :35:29.probably. I don't mind, he's just won 100,000 race, he cost less

:35:29. > :35:32.than that, so we are delighted. It's great for Ken who observes --

:35:32. > :35:37.owns him. He will be a name that you will remember for a long time.

:35:37. > :35:41.He is going to have horses for a long time. Hopefully a lot with you.

:35:41. > :35:44.Let's hope so. Let's look at the start. A couple of them certainly

:35:45. > :35:53.threw away chances at the start. You will have heard that the winner

:35:53. > :35:56.from 22 is not that fast away. Not as slowly as Van Der Art Van

:35:56. > :36:00.Der Art and also Excellent Guest. He is sitting down a little. On the

:36:00. > :36:06.extreme left, one from the left, Van Der Art takes a long time to

:36:06. > :36:09.come out. He must have given him ten, 15 lengths. Once you have

:36:09. > :36:13.given them a start that far, it's game over. He just followed them up,

:36:14. > :36:19.basically. He must have stayed in there a good four or five seconds

:36:19. > :36:22.before the others go. Your chance was lost there. We will

:36:22. > :36:26.look as well, there you are in the middle, see how far behind. This is

:36:26. > :36:29.the halfway stage. Your chance if you are a supporter of him has

:36:29. > :36:32.already gone. You can ignore that run from him. Let's look at the

:36:32. > :36:38.closing stages. A couple of them stayed on OK. Most notably,

:36:38. > :36:45.Hawkeyethenoo. You see him there, black and pink colours. He has ran

:36:45. > :36:49.wul on this track -- well on this track before. He just had the

:36:49. > :36:54.momentary wait about a furlong and a half before he gets his run and

:36:54. > :36:57.gets daylight and really does power home. He starts to pick up. By that

:36:57. > :37:01.stage a host of them have already gone for home. The race is

:37:01. > :37:06.effectively over. Good performances there, most notably from Global

:37:06. > :37:09.Village. He is the only one that's come from a low stall to get

:37:09. > :37:19.involved. But one that you can really forget about the run about

:37:19. > :37:21.

:37:21. > :37:24.was that Van Der Art, he really and congratulations to them. Jamie

:37:24. > :37:32.Osbourne was paying tribute to him and the amount of patience he has

:37:32. > :37:36.had in terms of owning horses Anfield field coming -- horses and

:37:36. > :37:39.Field Of Dream coming good today. Sometimes it's about how they're

:37:39. > :37:44.feeling, how do conditions suit them, all sorts of things that they

:37:44. > :37:50.can't tell you and Jamie as Bourne will get a good cheer as he picks

:37:50. > :37:56.up this prize, sponsored by Betfair, also the sponsors of the King

:37:56. > :37:58.George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

:37:58. > :38:04.The King George is the reason that so many people have come racing

:38:04. > :38:09.today. But also plenty for them to enjoy here. It's such a huge area

:38:09. > :38:14.that Ascot covers and it takes a fair time just to get around it and

:38:14. > :38:17.work out where you are and obviously no dress code here! A lot

:38:17. > :38:27.of Japanese connections here as well. They'll be watching closely

:38:27. > :38:29.

:38:29. > :38:34.in the Far East for Deep Brillante. The statue there, looks majestic.

:38:34. > :38:38.The gentleman there works for Aidan O'Brien. Good pick-up there. In the

:38:38. > :38:42.pre-parade ring horses are being saddled and amongst them a

:38:42. > :38:47.passionate owner-breeder, you might know him better from another sport

:38:47. > :38:50.but Mick has caught up with the owner and breeder of Brown Panther.

:38:50. > :38:55.Michael, did you envisage when this horse was born you would be stood

:38:55. > :39:00.in this paddock with a horse saddled with a horse like this?

:39:00. > :39:04.at all, not after the first couple of horses. They were pretty

:39:04. > :39:08.moderate and he's come out of the blue. He is obviously an

:39:08. > :39:11.exceptional horse, a great looking horse, as well. You are in this

:39:11. > :39:14.game to be on the stages like today, so I would be lying if I said I

:39:14. > :39:17.didn't want to be here at some point but probably never thought I

:39:17. > :39:21.would be able to breed my own to come here. This is the sort of

:39:21. > :39:25.thing that gets you excited as an owner, dreaming of one day having a

:39:25. > :39:28.horse that can really - he is competitive in this race. Yeah,

:39:28. > :39:32.that's what we are in the game for, to compete at the top top level.

:39:32. > :39:37.You say excited, I was excited for about the last month and then it

:39:37. > :39:42.turns into nerves for the last couple of hours. Yeah, he is one of

:39:42. > :39:47.the outsiders, but in many ways, even though he's run a few times he

:39:48. > :39:51.is still unexposed. A lot of the times he's won, he's won

:39:51. > :39:55.convincingly and times he has been beaten there's been excuses for him.

:39:55. > :39:59.He's pretty unexposed. We are not sure what to make of today. How do

:39:59. > :40:05.you equate this to footballing days? Similar to standing in the

:40:05. > :40:10.tunnel before you go out to play or worse? Worse. Football, you look

:40:10. > :40:13.around at your team-mates and you have yourself and you feel as if

:40:13. > :40:20.you are going to dictate how the day goes really. You have an

:40:20. > :40:23.influence on the game. What have I got to do? I am a by-stander really,

:40:23. > :40:26.hopefully the trainer has done his job, the jockey is going to do his

:40:26. > :40:32.job and then we are in the lap of the gods to see whether the horse

:40:32. > :40:37.is good enough on the day. That's what makes it so exciting. You

:40:37. > :40:42.don't know what's around the corner. Hope I am interviewing you after he

:40:43. > :40:46.has won. Thanks. He will roar louder than anyone if Brown Panther

:40:46. > :40:49.could be competitive in this race. As Frankie said earlier, you think

:40:49. > :40:59.there are five or six horses that have a genuine chance of winning.

:40:59. > :41:04.

:41:04. > :41:11.Let's tell you a bit more about all runner newspaper the St Ledger at

:41:11. > :41:17.Doncaster and winner of the King George V. Dunaden, the Melbourne

:41:17. > :41:22.Cup winner who went to Hong Kong to win The Vase.

:41:22. > :41:27.Masked Marvel, winner of the St Leger last September. Frankie

:41:27. > :41:32.Dettori steps forward to ride this 40-1 chance. Nathaniel, William

:41:32. > :41:42.Buick, bidding to become the third horse to win back-to-back King

:41:42. > :41:44.

:41:44. > :41:51.Georges. Reliable Man, winner of the Prix Jockey Club. Robin Hood,

:41:51. > :41:56.we expect this twoupb be taking up pace-maker duties. Sea Moon, winner

:41:56. > :42:02.of the Hardwicke Stakes stakes last time in great style. A horse going

:42:02. > :42:07.places. St Nicholas Abbey, winner of The Coronation Cup and also the

:42:07. > :42:16.Breeders Cup. Joseph O'Brien enjoying a fantastic season.

:42:16. > :42:24.Danedream, the five-length winner last October of the Arc. Deep

:42:24. > :42:28.Brillante, winner ever the Japan Derby.

:42:28. > :42:38.Let's look at the betting. We have joint favourites, Nathaniel and Sea

:42:38. > :43:05.

:43:05. > :43:09.down towards the paddock. John Gosden there and William Buick

:43:09. > :43:12.looking very cool, going through the runners again in The Racing

:43:12. > :43:15.Post, probably looking at another race, to be honest. I think he is

:43:15. > :43:20.looking at the King George. Nathaniel bidding to become the

:43:20. > :43:24.third horse to win back-to-back King Georges. You get a a weight

:43:24. > :43:28.allowance as a three-year-old. Now he has to carry nine stone seven,

:43:29. > :43:32.exactly the same as the likes of Dunaden and Sea Moon and all those.

:43:32. > :43:35.The only horse that does get the weight for age allowance is the

:43:35. > :43:40.Japanese runner, Deep Brillante, who carries less weight and

:43:40. > :43:45.Danedream being a filly gets a weight allowance as well, 3lb less

:43:45. > :43:48.than the other colts. There he is, the big powerful, muscular

:43:48. > :43:57.individual that's Nathaniel. He is a lovely horse. He is a lovely

:43:57. > :44:02.horse. I was impressed he was able... His sister is - has a big

:44:02. > :44:07.chance of winning the Irish Oaks tomorrow. It's a good family the

:44:07. > :44:12.Rothchilds have bought into. They bought privately out - they were

:44:12. > :44:17.selling up, most most of them and they bought this mare and she's

:44:17. > :44:22.produced one champion and one in the wings. The team of William

:44:22. > :44:25.Buick and John Gosden so strong during Royal Ascot, five winners

:44:25. > :44:30.for the pair of them. If John Gosden wins this, with either horse

:44:30. > :44:33.actually, he could overtake Aidan O'Brien and go to the front in the

:44:34. > :44:38.trainers' championship. William is not far behind Ryan Moore to be

:44:38. > :44:48.champion jockey. It's their third season together. We thought we

:44:48. > :44:58.

:44:58. > :45:03.would examine why and how their I first got offered the job with

:45:03. > :45:09.John, it was obviously, it was a bolt out of the blue. I never had

:45:09. > :45:15.anything to do with John. I think he might have said hello to me once.

:45:15. > :45:22.We get on very well. He is very intelligent. He is wise beyond his

:45:22. > :45:25.years. He's got a great feel for a horse, rather like a Frankie, he

:45:25. > :45:29.will give you a clear definition of what he felt and what the horse is,

:45:29. > :45:35.what trip, everything else. He is a team player. He gets on very well

:45:35. > :45:40.with everybody in the yard. He is in there five mornings a week.

:45:40. > :45:47.I came there two or three years ago, when you walk in you are part of a

:45:47. > :45:53.big team and there's so many people working, I feel like in Formula One

:45:53. > :45:57.terms, I feel like the driver in a huge team. That understanding of

:45:57. > :46:01.the feel that you have for a horse or a machine, it's rather like a

:46:01. > :46:08.Formula One driver setting up a car. To have it perform how they want,

:46:08. > :46:13.with the engineers and everything. Obviously, John is the boss, but

:46:13. > :46:19.the work ethic behind everything is fantastic. There's so many people

:46:19. > :46:22.that deserve credit for every winner we have. Pound for pound,

:46:22. > :46:25.Frankie would be the greatest jockey I have ever put up on a

:46:25. > :46:33.horse and William is going in that direction. But he is very aware of

:46:33. > :46:37.the fact he is not the finished product yet. He is like a mentor.

:46:37. > :46:40.Even when I have made mistakes, it's not a scream and shout thing,

:46:40. > :46:44.it's done calmly and I understand where I have gone wrong. He is

:46:44. > :46:49.probably the best train tore make a mistake for. I can only remember

:46:49. > :46:53.one or two. He comes straight back, I am sorry, I got that wrong. He

:46:53. > :46:57.knows. He is very honest like that. He would never try and cover it up.

:46:57. > :47:01.He is the first to tell you and I admire that in someone. I like

:47:01. > :47:07.honesty. I make plenty of mistakes, you know you have to be honest. We

:47:07. > :47:12.all do. No one's perfect. What's amazing about John is when he

:47:12. > :47:16.watches a race, he can see everything. There's no point trying

:47:16. > :47:20.to say something else to John or hide something where you think you

:47:20. > :47:28.might have gone wrong, because he has seen it already. From a

:47:28. > :47:32.trainer's point of view, it's amazing to listen to and amazing

:47:32. > :47:38.ability to have. He certainly is flourishing through the association.

:47:38. > :47:41.William Buick in third place at the moment. Hughes moves into second,

:47:41. > :47:44.ten behind Ryan Moore. This is going to be building up to some

:47:44. > :47:51.jockeys' championship because nobody's running out in front with

:47:51. > :47:54.100 already. Paul Hanagan on 57. For John Gosden, the trainers'

:47:54. > :48:01.championship is not decided on numbers of winners, it's prize

:48:01. > :48:10.money. These big prizes like today are hugely important. 567,000. If

:48:10. > :48:13.he won that, anded a - he would definitely be in front. Exactly.

:48:13. > :48:17.There is John Gosden, not thinking about the trainers' championship or

:48:17. > :48:23.anything like that, just yet. Just thinking about his two runners,

:48:23. > :48:26.Masked Marvel and Nathaniel. Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal

:48:26. > :48:35.party have come out to the special box that they have looking down on

:48:35. > :48:40.to the paddock. John Warren up there as well. Because this is part

:48:40. > :48:46.of the Kipco champion series, it's a different line-up, when they get

:48:46. > :48:50.to the paddock the jockeys have to stand under banners with their -

:48:50. > :48:54.with horses colours and they're easier to identify. Interesting, he

:48:54. > :49:00.saddled Nathaniel up so early and the horse looks relaxed. They're

:49:00. > :49:05.get willing -- getting in early making sure he is calm. He always

:49:05. > :49:14.puts a lip chain on, that's a sort of thin chain that goes over the

:49:14. > :49:17.top of the gum. It just let's out the endorphins and keeps a horse

:49:17. > :49:22.relaxed. He will a little bit of a look coming underneath the tunnel

:49:22. > :49:26.there. He might have just saw his own name on the board there! If he

:49:26. > :49:31.can read, he could earn a lot more in life than half a million he will

:49:31. > :49:35.get for winning this! People might think that's what he did. Getting

:49:35. > :49:40.slightly warm. It's a warm afternoon now. Summer has arrived.

:49:40. > :49:44.Let's look at the form for these runners with Ian and Steve.

:49:44. > :49:48.I thought we would look at one of Nathaniel's races and for a change

:49:48. > :49:53.look at his very first race, which was a wet Friday evening at

:49:53. > :49:57.Newmarket and a maiden race. If you are a racing expert you will know

:49:57. > :50:03.what happened in this. Here he is, dark blue and yellow. There with

:50:03. > :50:06.the pink behind him is a horse that you all know, because this was

:50:06. > :50:10.Frankel's first run. It's amazing that two such brilliant horses

:50:10. > :50:17.should meet first time out in a little ordinary maiden at Newmarket

:50:17. > :50:21.on a Friday. I know, and I am sure Gosden was going there confident

:50:21. > :50:24.thinking we have a proper horse and to get beaten by that they

:50:24. > :50:28.obviously think what went wrong. In hindsight, he has met a superstar.

:50:28. > :50:33.The other thing about him, although obviously this is their first race,

:50:33. > :50:37.it's the closest ever any horse that is ever got to Frankel at the

:50:37. > :50:39.finish. It is and probably the closest any horse will ever get to

:50:40. > :50:43.Frankel the way he is winning at the moment. In hindsight you think

:50:43. > :50:48.wow, what a maiden that was. course, we know that Frankel has

:50:48. > :50:52.gone on to be probably the horse maybe even of the century,

:50:52. > :50:56.certainly the decade. This is going to be a fast race. There will be no

:50:56. > :51:00.stamina. In theory, it should be an easy tactical race for William

:51:00. > :51:03.Buick. I hope so. There's nothing worse a race like this where is

:51:03. > :51:07.questions to be answered. We want to see a champion now. Let's hope

:51:07. > :51:11.it's fast run and not messy and everything is clean-cut. Nathaniel

:51:11. > :51:16.should have a great chance and should be run to suit. That was how

:51:17. > :51:22.he made his debut when unluckily, he met a horse called Frankel.

:51:22. > :51:27.I mentioned that the jockeys come out here to line up underneath big

:51:27. > :51:35.banners, formula-one style. That's happened a moment or two ago. Let's

:51:35. > :51:37.look at the line-up. Kieron Fallon was underneath that of Brown

:51:37. > :51:41.Panther. No we are going to stay with live pictures. They follow the

:51:41. > :51:44.jockeys through to their various camps which makes my job easier

:51:44. > :51:49.because it means I can look up at the banner and tell that you here

:51:49. > :51:58.is the German team, bidding to be the first German horse to win the

:51:58. > :52:01.King George. If we go here we will find the

:52:01. > :52:07.Coolmore camp, Robin Hood, we expect to be the pace-maker and St

:52:07. > :52:11.Nicholas Abbey who has such good form. Derrick Smith not here today,

:52:11. > :52:15.but that's his son, Paul, there deep in conversation with Joseph.

:52:15. > :52:19.You see how tall Joseph is. Does well to keep his weight down and

:52:19. > :52:22.keep cool in these big races. Here the bright colours of Craig

:52:22. > :52:26.Williams. We saw him walking the course earlier and heard from him.

:52:26. > :52:36.Dunaden, the horse in question, the winner of the Melbourne Cup and

:52:36. > :52:39.

:52:40. > :52:44.Hong Kong Vase. Kieron Fallon here with the Brown

:52:44. > :52:47.Panther team. We already talked to Michael Owen and wish them luck.

:52:47. > :52:49.Fingers crossed. Big day for them. I hope the ground hasn't dried out

:52:49. > :52:54.too much for their chances because obviously he would prefer soft

:52:54. > :52:59.ground and it seems to be drying out. John Gosden now, having a chat

:52:59. > :53:09.there with Frankie who rides Masked Marvel. Leaving William Buick to

:53:09. > :53:18.

:53:18. > :53:21.Eclipse last time. But only two weeks ago. Ryan Moore is here. Sea

:53:21. > :53:24.Moon is an interesting contender. Michael Stoute could become the

:53:24. > :53:28.most successful trainer in the history of the King George. He has

:53:28. > :53:33.won it five times. At the moment that puts him level with Vincent

:53:33. > :53:37.O'Brien. If he he wins for a 6th time he will be on his own. A few

:53:37. > :53:42.years back he had the first three home in this race. It's a race that

:53:42. > :53:45.seems to suit him and his horses. The Japanese team, huge interest in

:53:45. > :53:50.this race because there is a Japanese runner and they are

:53:50. > :54:00.bidding to become the first horse outside of Europe to win the King

:54:00. > :54:08.

:54:08. > :54:12.Frankie Dettori saying how worried he is about the journey over here

:54:12. > :54:17.and obviously it's a long way to come. But we will have a closer

:54:17. > :54:21.look at these horses now with Rishi. We are getting a good look at these

:54:21. > :54:26.horses around the paddock. One or two showing negative signs. Let's

:54:26. > :54:29.first of all talk about a horse who looks well, Sea Moon. Sir Michael

:54:29. > :54:33.Stoute's runner, he looks in great shape and looks like he is getting

:54:33. > :54:37.better with every start. He just has to keep on improving. He needs

:54:37. > :54:43.to improve that little bit more to win the race today. But there is no

:54:43. > :54:50.reason why he can't do that. Aidan O'Brien has his team to our left.

:54:50. > :54:53.Joseph and Connor, just about to get on board St Nicholas Abbey.

:54:54. > :54:57.Here comes St Nicholas Abbey who was so impressive in The Coronation

:54:57. > :55:02.Cup this year. They're worried about the ground from the mile and

:55:02. > :55:05.a half down to turning into the strait. Just might be a little bit

:55:05. > :55:10.too soft for him. But the ground is drying out all the time and the

:55:10. > :55:18.horse himself, he looks just as good as he always does. Behind is

:55:18. > :55:25.Danedream. A nice mare. She's got a good athletic walk about her. Not a

:55:25. > :55:32.great big horse. There is the Japanese Derby winner. He is a tall

:55:32. > :55:37.horse. He is a big horse. That jockey, he is going to have to keep

:55:37. > :55:40.hold of his head around here. Nathaniel, only two weeks since he

:55:40. > :55:44.last ran in The Eclipse. He is definitely warm today. He is

:55:44. > :55:49.sweating under the saddle and between the legs. I know you like

:55:49. > :55:55.to see these sort of things. don't like to see it! You are going

:55:55. > :55:58.to have to say that maybe people who say that two weeks is a bit

:55:58. > :56:04.quick, maybe it is. That's what it looks like at the moment. Because

:56:04. > :56:09.he is sweating is the suggestion... It is a warm day. But he is

:56:09. > :56:15.sweating a lot more than any of the others. He is a little bit out of

:56:15. > :56:18.kilt with all the other runsers. -- runners. Because Because it was

:56:18. > :56:28.only two weeks ago he won The Eclipse, looks as though it might

:56:28. > :57:05.

:57:05. > :57:09.King George. Sir Peter O'Sullivan missing the race, he is a bit under

:57:09. > :57:13.the weather. Peter, best wishes to you. This is the first King George

:57:13. > :57:20.he has ever missed. First run in 1951. Now they come on to the

:57:20. > :57:24.course. There's Brown Panther, 25-1 chance. Michael Owen and Bert Black,

:57:24. > :57:28.carrying Bert Black's colours and very much on his toes, as you can

:57:28. > :57:35.see. He comes out in front of this enormous crowd here. He was a very

:57:35. > :57:44.good second in the St Leger. The Melbourne Cup winner next. Craig

:57:44. > :57:48.rode this horse to win the Hong Kong Vase.

:57:49. > :57:55.Here is Masked Marvel, as Frankie Dettori says 25-1, far too big in

:57:55. > :58:01.his opinion for a St Leger winner. Then, last year's winner, Nathaniel,

:58:01. > :58:05.he is now a four-year-old. He won The Eclipse two weeks ago. He is 5-

:58:05. > :58:10.2 outright favourite here. Good vibes about him. William Buick in

:58:10. > :58:17.the saddle. Then, I think this is one of the best outsiders,

:58:17. > :58:24.certainly the value of the race, Reliable Man.

:58:25. > :58:34.Let's drop back now, the pace-maker. This is the pace-maker for St

:58:35. > :58:36.

:58:36. > :58:44.Nicholas Abbey, Robin Hood. Then we drop back to Sea Moon, he is a

:58:45. > :58:48.horse very much on the improve, Ryan Moore in the saddle. A good

:58:48. > :58:52.winner of the Hardwicke Stakes stakes last time by three and a

:58:52. > :58:59.quarter lengths from Dunaden who looked a little bit unlucky. Now

:58:59. > :59:03.the next wave of them coming out. St Nicholas Abbey, who's on his day

:59:03. > :59:08.an exceptionally good horse and reportedly turned in the best piece

:59:08. > :59:15.of work he's ever turned in at Ballydoyle last week, that's the

:59:15. > :59:23.rumour. He is the winner of The Coronation Cup, a Breeders Cup Turf.

:59:23. > :59:30.Danedream, a five-length winner of the Arc. Struggling to find form

:59:30. > :59:39.this year. She will not be worried by the ground. Here from Japan, a

:59:39. > :59:46.three-year-old, it's Deep Brillante. Ridden by a Mel Melbourne-Cup

:59:46. > :59:50.winning jockey and trained by Yoshito Yahagi. A winner of the

:59:50. > :59:55.Japanese Derby by a nose. They've a lot of faith in him sending this

:59:55. > :00:00.three-year-old to Ascot for one of the vintage runnings, the 62nd

:00:00. > :00:04.running of the King George. There were a bunch of Japanese fans

:00:04. > :00:08.around the paddock waving flags at Deep Brillante. He is the son of

:00:08. > :00:12.Deep Impact who had a huge following when he came to Paris and

:00:13. > :00:18.ran in the Arc and finished second. We have had good Japanese horses

:00:18. > :00:21.running in Europe over the years. But this would be a huge, huge

:00:21. > :00:26.result if Deep Brillante could win the King George and there will be

:00:26. > :00:30.an awful lot of interest in Japan because of this horse. I will say

:00:30. > :00:40.about those in the paddock, Sea Moon looks magnificent. He does.

:00:40. > :00:54.

:00:54. > :01:03.Which one of these ten will add his him canter. What a horse this is.

:01:03. > :01:13.The stack winner of the King George. Makes it 15 out of 15. Well done.

:01:13. > :01:16.

:01:16. > :01:26.In his stride, he's going to win it in noble style. Dante Grey. Look at

:01:26. > :01:29.

:01:29. > :01:33.Mont Jeu. This is the salute to a mile-and-a-half start. It's

:01:33. > :01:36.interesting how this is shaping up betting-wise. Joint favourites

:01:36. > :01:41.Nathaniel and sea sea, I would think now, with Nathaniel sweating

:01:41. > :01:46.as much as he is, Sea Moon may well get propelled to favoritism. St

:01:46. > :01:50.Nicholas Abbey available at 9-2. Mick trying to uphold the time for

:01:50. > :01:55.him. Exactly. It's just such a fascinating race. I was impressed

:01:55. > :01:59.with this horse, Sea Moon. I thought Richard Hughes's comment in

:01:59. > :02:04.the Racing Press was impressive talking about his stride. He has

:02:04. > :02:10.such a long stride. His feet touch the ground less. He thinks he

:02:10. > :02:14.covers two feet more with his strides at least. That means he has

:02:14. > :02:18.less oxygen, more energy to gallop with. If he's correct, he is a

:02:18. > :02:22.horse improving all the time. He ran second in the Brooders Cup last

:02:22. > :02:26.year. He just has to improve that little bit more. This horse we're

:02:26. > :02:34.looking at now - he looks fine there, but in the paddock, you

:02:34. > :02:38.could see all the sweat. Is it two weeks - it is a thing to worry

:02:38. > :02:42.about. Have another look at Deep Brillante, and he's remaining very

:02:42. > :02:48.calm, and doesn't look any worse for the wear but for the journey

:02:48. > :02:52.over here. They brought him over in plenty of time. He's by Deep Impact.

:02:52. > :02:55.Let's have a look at him in the Japanese Derby. It's difficult to

:02:55. > :03:00.know how this form will equate to form in the UK. Look at the ground

:03:00. > :03:04.for one thing - that looks fast ground there. There he is. He has

:03:04. > :03:07.been in front from two out. He keeps on galloping right the way to

:03:07. > :03:15.the line. The jockey is doing his bumping again like he did in the

:03:15. > :03:23.race when he had a ride earlier on Clive Brittain's horse, but he is

:03:23. > :03:26.the foundling of Nashwan, this horse. He has a very English

:03:26. > :03:30.pedigree. Let's have a look at the forgotten horse, the horse that was

:03:30. > :03:36.the favourite when the horses came out, St Nicholas Abbey. He was in

:03:36. > :03:40.the Coronation Cup, beat Sea Moon in one race. He looked good at

:03:40. > :03:48.Epsom last time in the Coronation Cup. He did. He's a horse if

:03:48. > :03:52.everything goes right for him, he'll run a very, very big race.

:03:52. > :03:57.Are you at all concerned about the fact he hasn't won going right-

:03:57. > :04:04.handed since his two-year-old days? Not at all. He went around, what is

:04:04. > :04:08.it, the Curra. He got, I must say, the criticism here. He didn't get

:04:08. > :04:12.the best of rides there when he was second at the Curragh. It was a

:04:12. > :04:17.prep race for him. Joseph was being very cool on him. He was expecting

:04:17. > :04:20.him to sprint home a bit quicker than he did. He came home a little

:04:20. > :04:25.bit one-paced, but you can see even this horse - you know, he's a horse

:04:25. > :04:35.that's been about running in Group 1s, been to America and travelled a

:04:35. > :04:37.

:04:37. > :04:46.lot. He is getting very warm between his legs as well. Is he --

:04:46. > :04:51.he does fold hisself away, Joseph. He is getting on for six foot. He

:04:51. > :04:56.has become a top-class jockey. they went fast, Dunaden comes into

:04:56. > :05:00.it very fast. We know he has class, Group 1 class. Won the Melbourne

:05:00. > :05:07.Cup. The owner thinks this jockey has something going with the horse.

:05:07. > :05:11.Sea Moon is going to be the last to go forward for the 2012 running of

:05:11. > :05:16.the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Locked away,

:05:16. > :05:20.William Buick, is destining beckoning on Nathaniel? They're

:05:20. > :05:24.racing, and Dunaden one of the first away, also Dunaden. Out wide

:05:24. > :05:28.is Brown Panther trying to cross over. The Japanese runner, Deep

:05:28. > :05:33.Brillante, is up there searching for a handy passing. Robin Hood is

:05:33. > :05:37.tapped for early toe on the inside, and Dunaden has pulled his way up

:05:37. > :05:41.to take narrow lead. So Dunaden on the outside doesn't really want to

:05:41. > :05:45.be this enthusiastic early, and now Robin Hood has poked through to

:05:45. > :05:48.just take a narrow lead. The pace is pretty good. Two lengths away,

:05:48. > :05:53.then, as Brown Panther third from Nathaniel. Danedream the inside.

:05:53. > :06:00.Then Deep Brillante trying to get in to get a possy, followed in the

:06:00. > :06:06.centre next in by Nathaniel being tracked by Reliable Man, Sea Moon,

:06:06. > :06:10.second, last Joseph O'Brien has his horse at the back. Robin Hood leads

:06:10. > :06:14.by three or four lengths as they race towards Swinley Bottom.

:06:14. > :06:18.Dunaden on inside the of Brown Panther - two or three away,

:06:18. > :06:21.Nathaniel. A length then to Danedream, followed then by did

:06:21. > :06:24.Japanese runner pulling hard, Deep Brillante, the inside. Further back,

:06:24. > :06:29.Reliable Man with Masked Marvel, followed by Sea Moon and out the

:06:29. > :06:33.back is St Nicholas Abbey. All the time climbing up towards home, six

:06:33. > :06:36.furlongs to travel, and it's Robin Hood by three lengths to Dunaden.

:06:36. > :06:40.Two away, the outside, Brown Panther. A length further back is

:06:40. > :06:45.Danedream travelling on the inside now of Nathaniel. Two lengths

:06:45. > :06:48.further back is Masked Marvel on the inside of Reliable Man, and now

:06:48. > :06:51.out deeper is Deep Brillante. Further back in the field is Sea

:06:51. > :06:55.Moon about second, last. And St Nicholas Abbey is last. Racing up

:06:55. > :07:00.to the half mile in the King George, and it's Robin Hood on the inside

:07:00. > :07:04.from Dunaden. Looming up now, Brown Panther. Danedream sitting in

:07:04. > :07:06.behind. Nathaniel going well, followed by Deep Brillante. The

:07:06. > :07:10.pacemaker dropped away. Masked Marvel is further back, followed

:07:10. > :07:14.then by Reliable Man as they swing the quarter now in the King George.

:07:14. > :07:18.Two-and-a-half furlongs to go. Dunaden, the Melbourne Cup winner,

:07:18. > :07:21.on the far side, and Brown Panther coming at him now. Nathaniel

:07:21. > :07:24.joining in as well. Danedream getting into the clear, followed by

:07:24. > :07:28.Reliable Man battling on. They have a furlong-and-a-half to go in the

:07:28. > :07:32.King George, and Nathaniel moves up on the outside to grab a narrow

:07:32. > :07:38.lead. Danedream on the outside is finishing fast with Reliable Man. A

:07:38. > :07:41.half furlong left to go. Nathaniel is trying to cling to the lead!

:07:41. > :07:45.Danedream finishing fast. It's Danedream now racing with Nathaniel.

:07:45. > :07:48.Nathaniel kicking the inside! They hit the line locked together - a

:07:48. > :07:54.bobbing finish between Nathaniel and Danedream in the King George.

:07:54. > :07:58.St Nicholas Abbey flew home down the outside from Reliable Man. They

:07:58. > :08:05.were followed then by Dunaden and Sea Moon. Brown Panther behind them

:08:05. > :08:10.from Deep Brillante, Masked Marvel and Robin Hood is last. Here's the

:08:10. > :08:18.bob. Let's see it. Dandedream, the near side. They hit the line locked

:08:18. > :08:22.together. Danedream possibly. Danedream, near side, on the

:08:22. > :08:32.evidence of that has won it by a nostril from Nathaniel. Here comes

:08:32. > :08:34.

:08:34. > :08:39.the result. First is number nine, Danedream, ridden by Starke, has

:08:39. > :08:43.gone up to win it narrowly from number four, only a nose in it.

:08:43. > :08:47.Third, number eight, St Nicholas Abbey, fourth, number five,

:08:47. > :08:52.Reliable Man ridden by Olivier Peslier. But the Arc winner - she's

:08:52. > :08:58.bounced back for Germany, a first win in the race for Germany as

:08:58. > :09:02.Danedream, this five-lengths winner of the Arkle last November has

:09:02. > :09:08.returned to form with vengeance. She's gone up to pull it out of the

:09:08. > :09:12.fire by a nostril. Far side, Nathaniel, a game second, went so

:09:13. > :09:20.close to winning back to have to- back King Georges. St Nicholas

:09:21. > :09:26.Abbey has flown down the outside for third. Here's the photo, and

:09:26. > :09:35.here's Starke. Here he is victorious once again on this

:09:35. > :09:41.remarkable German mare, a 9-1 winner of the King George. What a

:09:41. > :09:51.happy moment for German racing and Starke absolutely elated with the

:09:51. > :09:51.

:09:51. > :10:00.run of Danedream, whose performance. This filly by Lomitas, trained by

:10:01. > :10:04.Peter Schiergen, himself a multiple champion jockey, and Starke is the

:10:04. > :10:13.winning jockey. A nose was the winning distance - one-and-a-half

:10:13. > :10:19.lengths between second and third, and the time, 231.62. CHEERING AND

:10:19. > :10:23.APPLAUSE Just fantastic to hear and see the elation of Andreas Starke -

:10:23. > :10:28.what a fantastically well-timed performance on this filly. She only

:10:28. > :10:33.got her head in front on the line. Nathaniel had the race until that

:10:33. > :10:37.very last half stride, not even a full stride, and look at him here,

:10:37. > :10:41.just joyous, the first German- trained winner to win this race and

:10:42. > :10:46.only the third horse this century to win the Arc, following in the

:10:46. > :10:51.steps of Dylan Thomas and Hurricane Run as well, and Danedream returned

:10:51. > :10:54.a 9-1 chance, the only filly in the race, and my word. That was a great

:10:54. > :11:00.finish, wasn't it? That was a fantastic finish. You would have to

:11:00. > :11:07.say that Nathaniel, having run two weeks ago, just might have taken

:11:07. > :11:13.the edge off him, but let's not take it away from this Danedream.

:11:13. > :11:17.She won the arc detriumph on fastish ground. The ground has been

:11:17. > :11:21.drying out for her today. Now you can see her coming to the outside

:11:21. > :11:26.behind Nathaniel setting his filly alight. She said, clay, she did not

:11:26. > :11:35.get her head in front until a very, very last stride, and it was a

:11:35. > :11:39.great finish, and Reliable Man ran fourth. That's one of his best ever

:11:39. > :11:43.races, and Joseph O'Brien on St Nicholas Abbey - he came from last,

:11:43. > :11:52.and he's only beaten two-and-a-half length, so he's run a very good

:11:52. > :11:56.race as well. May it please your majesty, ladies and gentlemen, what

:11:56. > :12:01.a finish to this year's running of the King George VI and Queen

:12:01. > :12:06.Elizabeth Stakes, and we have for the first time in its history a

:12:06. > :12:10.German winner, the filly Danedream, the first filly since 1983 to win

:12:10. > :12:17.this. She does so by a nose from last year's winner Nathaniel.

:12:17. > :12:21.Congratulations to Peter Schiergen, Andreas Starke and everyone

:12:21. > :12:25.involved with this super filly, Danedream.

:12:25. > :12:35.APPLAUSE Back into this winners' enclosure,

:12:35. > :12:38.

:12:38. > :12:44.Starke - there's time, 231.62. German runners have not had the -

:12:44. > :12:48.well, they've not been well represented at all over the years.

:12:48. > :12:51.Let's have a look at them cross the line. Now, Danedream has won it by

:12:51. > :12:56.a nostril, officially a nose, from Nathaniel. Third was St Nicholas

:12:56. > :13:01.Abbey, who has come from last, run a good race. Reliable Man has stuck

:13:01. > :13:04.on well for his fourth under Olivier Peslier. Sea Moon has

:13:04. > :13:09.finished fifth, never got nearer than fifth. Then Dunaden, an

:13:09. > :13:15.interesting run. He was pulling early. You could see Craig A

:13:15. > :13:21.Williams had trouble just getting him to drop the bid early. That's

:13:21. > :13:27.Brown Panther, handy enough, and Michael woeen, Burt Black-owned

:13:27. > :13:31.horse, but Rishi now with the winning rider. Many congratulations

:13:32. > :13:35.to Andreas Starke. Did you know when you hit the line you'd won the

:13:35. > :13:40.King George? It was close, but I thought it's only a nose. I hope

:13:40. > :13:43.it's for me, and it was for me, so it was very tight, but I had a good

:13:43. > :13:48.feeling. What a tremendous performance she's put in today.

:13:48. > :13:54.She's so tough. Unbelievable, and what I say is just after the race,

:13:54. > :13:58.never forget the performance from the best horse, and she won the Arc.

:13:58. > :14:01.And today, we just get excited to come to a race like that, and I

:14:01. > :14:06.don't know what's happened last time, but today, everything is in

:14:06. > :14:11.good shape, and yeah, I couldn't find the right words - what she do

:14:11. > :14:15.today, and she fight, and I have to cross about the second horse, and

:14:15. > :14:19.yeah, definitely the biggest moment in my life. You've got a big moment

:14:19. > :14:26.coming up next week as well because you've got a baby on the way.

:14:26. > :14:27.is coming soon, yes, and definitely today is the first step. Many

:14:27. > :14:33.congratulations. Well done, Andreas Starke.

:14:33. > :14:42.APPLAUSE So there she is, a fine filly, this

:14:42. > :14:52.filly by Lomitas. And she won the Italian Oaks earlier in his career.

:14:52. > :15:08.

:15:09. > :15:12.Let's have a look now at the full jockey wasn't sure when you'd

:15:12. > :15:16.crossed the line whether you'd won or not. What were your thoughts?

:15:16. > :15:20.Yeah, I think it was second, and now it's better with first.

:15:20. > :15:26.proud and pleased are you to get her back to her best form, the form

:15:26. > :15:30.that saw her win the Arc? I think the form is better than last year -

:15:30. > :15:35.was the same, and the last race, he was not a good traveller, not a

:15:35. > :15:39.good pace, and today was a good traveller, a good pace. What does

:15:39. > :15:43.it mean to you to be responsible for a German success in the King

:15:43. > :15:48.George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes? Well, it's a good feeling.

:15:48. > :15:55.It's very important for Germany and for German racing sport. She'll go

:15:55. > :16:00.back to the Arc? I think if she's in good form for the Bonnbury,

:16:00. > :16:04.she'll go to the Arc. Lots to come. Congratulations. Thank you. I am

:16:04. > :16:08.here with John Gosden. Mixed emotions. No, he's won a great race,

:16:08. > :16:11.a wonderful race, thrilled with him. I couldn't tell when they crossed

:16:11. > :16:15.the line. I was on the line. I couldn't tell,so I said, I'll wait

:16:15. > :16:19.for the announcement. Look. She's come back to her best, and for

:16:19. > :16:24.anybody who was lucky enough to see her win the Arc last year breaking

:16:24. > :16:29.the track record and destroying all the colts, she's marvellous, and

:16:29. > :16:33.she didn't handle the ground so well the other day. She seemed

:16:33. > :16:36.unhappy on loose ground and all the rain. She's come here today and run

:16:36. > :16:40.a blinder. Full marks to her. Our horse has won brilliantly. Look at

:16:40. > :16:45.the horses behind him. I am just beyond thrilled with him. I can't

:16:45. > :16:49.believe, actually, in just two weeks he can come back and put two

:16:49. > :16:53.races like that back to back, impressive. Full marks to him. I'll

:16:53. > :17:02.put him away. I think I'll suggest that Danedream considers reading

:17:02. > :17:07.shares, and that'll be -- breeding shares. Well done. Thanks. Very

:17:07. > :17:12.phlegmatic in defeat and John Gosden - my word, what a run, and

:17:12. > :17:18.the filly, on the day, she had her head in front when it came, and she

:17:18. > :17:23.really is tough and gutsy and talented. As they pulled up, the

:17:23. > :17:26.two jockeys said to each other, "What do you think?" Both basically

:17:26. > :17:31.said, "I don't know. Nobody knew it until the judge gave the verdict.

:17:31. > :17:39.It was a fantastic race, and I don't think Nathaniel has lost

:17:39. > :17:43.anybody at all in his defeat there. It's only a nose, and as I said

:17:43. > :17:46.earlier, it just might have taken the edge off him from running two

:17:46. > :17:52.weeks ago, but still, this is an exceptional filly that's beat him.

:17:52. > :17:58.She won the Arc by five lengths last year, and, of course, she is a

:17:58. > :18:03.- look at her there. Isn't she a sweetie? Yes. The only girl in the

:18:03. > :18:09.race, Claire, the only little lady, and she's a sweet little lady, and

:18:09. > :18:14.I wonder if Nathaniel might ever be able to cover her, you know? It

:18:15. > :18:19.would be nice, wouldn't it, for old time's sake. As they got to know

:18:19. > :18:26.each other so well. You old romantic, you. It's Nathaniel's

:18:26. > :18:36.stud he's going to, you see? Jacob's stud at Royceon. That would

:18:36. > :18:36.

:18:36. > :18:40.be very nice indeed. -- Royston. And he gets a cuddle from Frankie

:18:40. > :18:43.Dettori who knows him well. A little bit of history with

:18:44. > :18:47.Danedream's win. Let's look at how some of the others fared and how

:18:47. > :18:51.the race panned out. It looked a great race on paper beforehand, and

:18:51. > :18:54.it's certainly lived up to that as well. We'll have a look at the

:18:54. > :18:58.start of the race. Steve, the problem - the strange thing here is

:18:58. > :19:05.Dunaden comes from here - ends up being in front because on the stall

:19:05. > :19:09.on the left, the pacemaker misses it and doesn't go very far. No. He

:19:09. > :19:13.thought, I'll just drop in and follow the pacemaker. Unfortunately,

:19:13. > :19:19.the pacemaker was slow away and slowing to his stride. By the time

:19:19. > :19:22.he's got him going, Jamie has the pacemaker going and running keen

:19:22. > :19:26.along with Brown Panther on his inside.

:19:27. > :19:31.Different to what Dunaden has been riding in recent races with a late

:19:31. > :19:34.chance even over this short of a distance, the one he has won before.

:19:34. > :19:38.Brown Panther was on the extreme outside there, who was pulling very

:19:38. > :19:42.hard. That was the early stages of the King George with the pacemaker

:19:42. > :19:46.- not managing to get out in front. Still, we know now Danedream put up

:19:46. > :19:50.a fantastic performance and one - a King George to add to the Arc, and

:19:50. > :19:55.the connections are about to get the trophies. They are. Her Majesty,

:19:55. > :20:02.the Queen, has made her way down from the Royal Box. She'll be

:20:02. > :20:06.making this presentation alongside the representatives of Betfair.

:20:07. > :20:11.Gerald Corbett is there and his wife Virginia. The journey from

:20:11. > :20:20.Germany has been hugely worthwhile - 567,000 to the winner of this

:20:20. > :20:25.and the pair getting the lion's share of that - certainly getting -

:20:25. > :20:31.Helmut and Hyko Vault, father and son, stepping forward to receive

:20:31. > :20:36.the trophy, and at some point, the cheque will arrive, and Terry

:20:36. > :20:41.Yashida is co-owner of this horse, so there is Japanese interest.

:20:41. > :20:45.He is in this horse, in this filly. Yes, he bought into this filly, a

:20:45. > :20:51.half share, two weeks I believe before the Arc last year because,

:20:51. > :20:56.obviously, it was put up to him, and Yashida possibly will take this

:20:56. > :21:01.mare obviously back to Japan to breed, but, as I said earlier, he

:21:01. > :21:08.might put Nathaniel inside her and take her back then. But it was a

:21:08. > :21:11.very shrewd buy that day. You can see how animated they are and how

:21:12. > :21:15.excited they are to have taken on the challenge of running this race

:21:15. > :21:19.and the challenge coming off. That's what top-class sport is all

:21:19. > :21:23.about and what racing is all about. You can't predict beforehand what

:21:24. > :21:27.would happen. This filly ran so disappointingly last time, so a

:21:27. > :21:31.great training performance as well by the trainer to get her energised

:21:31. > :21:36.again and get her back in the sort of form she needed to be to beat

:21:36. > :21:41.off some serious Group 1 contenders, the likes of Nathaniel, St Nicholas

:21:41. > :21:47.Abbey and Dunaden and the others. No match for her today. Nathaniel -

:21:47. > :21:50.only no match by a whisker, but - and Andreas Starke as well. I just

:21:50. > :21:56.loved seeing him in the immediate aftermath of the race, very similar

:21:56. > :22:01.to win he won the arc. He's not afraid to show his emotions. Those

:22:01. > :22:05.will be the images that'll stay with us today, just raw joy. Well,

:22:05. > :22:10.it's a very, very big thing for a German jockey to be coming to

:22:10. > :22:14.England and winning - well, a prestige race like the King George,

:22:14. > :22:18.because normally, he has to have all the top jockeys every Sunday

:22:18. > :22:24.coming over to Germany and nicking some of the best rides in Germany

:22:24. > :22:29.on a Sunday, so it will be a big thing, him coming over here and

:22:29. > :22:34.taking our prize money, but I may say, he is a very, very, very good

:22:34. > :22:44.jockey. He's a world-class type. He has been going around the world

:22:44. > :22:46.

:22:46. > :22:51.learning his trade, and he's been moment of glory when the photo

:22:51. > :22:56.finish was announced and he knew that indeed number nine, Danedream

:22:56. > :22:59.had come home in front. I think he spied our camera there, Claire.

:22:59. > :23:09.think he was looking at the crowd, to be honest. Well done. It's

:23:09. > :23:12.

:23:12. > :23:16.Dettori could top that, I think. Don't you? Well, yes... For the...

:23:17. > :23:22.It's a wonder he didn't come into the winners' enclosure and give us

:23:22. > :23:25.a flying dismount. Obviously, if the winners' enclosure was within

:23:25. > :23:29.ten seconds that he might have done it because he's up for anything,

:23:29. > :23:33.there. Look at that he's still enjoying it. They'll be buzzing for

:23:33. > :23:37.ages. The reaction in Germany and the newspapers there will be pretty

:23:37. > :23:42.strong as well. Germany is going through a bad time with horseracing.

:23:42. > :23:45.Really? It's not as popular as it used to be. I see, in terms of

:23:45. > :23:54.attendance. Prize money - it's not doing great. The King George part

:23:55. > :24:04.of the Qipco Champions Series, the group together, the mile and a

:24:05. > :24:29.

:24:29. > :24:34.quarter, mile-and-a-half races - Frankel, will be running. That

:24:34. > :24:38.would be marvellous if he turns up - it would be great. Steve Drowne

:24:38. > :24:42.has joined us. Have you got over that? Wasn't that a fabulous race?

:24:42. > :24:47.It was great it doesn't appear to be any hard-luck stories. She

:24:47. > :24:51.looked the winner. He only had to wait for Nathaniel to make his move

:24:52. > :24:55.before switching around. There was no fluke about it. He's a five-

:24:55. > :25:01.lengths Arc winner at the end of the day. You can see Andreas Starke

:25:01. > :25:06.there saying, "Did you get there?" It looked as though Willie thought

:25:06. > :25:11.he had won, and Andreas Starke was looking at Willie thinking I got

:25:11. > :25:15.beat. Looking at the replay, I thought Nathaniel had won, but on

:25:15. > :25:21.the freeze frame, it was clear - it had gone the other way. She's a

:25:21. > :25:24.very, very good filly. There is not many horses that can win the Arc by

:25:24. > :25:27.five lengths because that is a championship. You have the best of

:25:27. > :25:30.the three-year-olds. You have best old horses, four-year-olds, so

:25:30. > :25:36.you've got everything there. And the reaction to Danedream's win

:25:36. > :25:46.there is to cut her price for the Arc. She's now around about 6-1 for

:25:46. > :26:01.

:26:01. > :26:05.wasn't he? He was. He had the bit to find, and he didn't find it.

:26:05. > :26:09.That's the story. The Arc de Triomphe there - it all depends on

:26:09. > :26:12.what the ground will be on the day - which horse will win - taking a

:26:12. > :26:16.price at the moment - you don't know what the ground is going to be

:26:16. > :26:19.like. That's a very fair point. Steve, as far as you're concerned,

:26:19. > :26:24.you're still aimed at getting back to race riding. What's the

:26:24. > :26:27.situation? Yeah, I am in a strange situation where I passed out at

:26:27. > :26:30.home doing the gardening in March. All the tests so far have been

:26:30. > :26:34.clear. That sounds good, but it's not for my situation because as

:26:34. > :26:38.long as the tests are clear, they can't find anything wrong with me,

:26:38. > :26:45.I have to sit it out. It's a waiting game. Are you allowed to

:26:45. > :26:50.ride out? No, because of insurance, I am not insured, and the trainer I

:26:50. > :26:54.ride for isn't insured either. I have no driver's licence. I am

:26:54. > :26:58.stuck. My word. It is a desperate situations but you feel well in

:26:58. > :27:04.yourself? Never been better. Like I say, because thrig nothing wrong

:27:04. > :27:09.with me, I have to sit it out. But they're still doing tests. How long

:27:09. > :27:13.do you think this will take? At the moment I am out until March, next

:27:13. > :27:17.year, when the year is up. Like I say, with a bit of luck, they can

:27:17. > :27:27.find something and shorten that wait. Earlier on Olivier Peslier

:27:27. > :27:31.

:27:31. > :27:39.picked up a suspension for careless riding on Joe Fanning -- his horse.

:27:39. > :27:44.What a thrilling weekend for the King George. If you want to

:27:44. > :27:54.continue watching, there is coverage now on the opening round

:27:54. > :28:01.

:28:01. > :28:06.of the penultimate championship and filly, first time since 1983 - it's

:28:06. > :28:12.hats off to Danedream. What a fitting finish to the King George.

:28:12. > :28:15.Bye-bye. Welcome to the most majestic race course in the UK. A

:28:15. > :28:25.huge crowd gathered for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth

:28:25. > :28:25.

:28:25. > :28:30.Stakes. That's it. They're racing. Ripping to the far side violently -

:28:30. > :28:37.that's enough in hand. She'll look quite the winner. All I have to say

:28:37. > :28:42.is Ryan Moore has timed it to perfection. Pastoral Player, and he

:28:42. > :28:45.has to be good enough to beat Pastoral Player. Edinburgh Knight

:28:45. > :28:48.sprouting wings, and Field Of Dream - Field Of Dream down the outside.

:28:48. > :28:53.Field Of Dream going home from Edinburgh Knight. You look through

:28:53. > :28:57.this race and think there are five or six horses that had a genuine
