:00:58. > :01:02.The storm clouds are gathering over London. The atmosphere is changing,
:01:02. > :01:05.but we move from one iconic landmark to another. Welcome here
:01:05. > :01:09.to the vast expanse of Ascot Racecourse, where thousands of
:01:09. > :01:14.people are pouring through the gates and we expect over the five
:01:14. > :01:18.days, that 250,000 people will come here to enjoy the unique mixture of
:01:18. > :01:23.sport and social interaction. The rain is just starting to drizzle
:01:23. > :01:28.down, but yesterday, on the opening day, we had a roll of thunder and
:01:28. > :01:38.flash of lightning, providing by Canford Cliffs in beating Goldikova
:01:38. > :02:02.
:02:02. > :02:12.and by the extraordinary Frankel. MUSIC COMMENTATOR: Canford Cliffs
:02:12. > :02:19.
:02:19. > :02:26.goes on to win from Goldikova. Star Witness down the outside. Prohibit
:02:26. > :02:35.has got up to win. It's Frankel now. He's starting to paddle. He's going
:02:35. > :02:39.up and down. He's held on. Frankel has won it! Your first winner as
:02:39. > :02:48.Sir Henry Cecil, any difference? Not at all different. Are you
:02:48. > :02:51.getting used to being called Sir Henry now? No. Willie Carson
:02:51. > :02:56.alongside me. Welcome everybody. Again, this wind is picking up as
:02:56. > :03:04.well. The rain has just started. It's hitting our backs here. It is.
:03:04. > :03:08.Use your microphone. Looking back yesterday and you saw Sir Henry
:03:08. > :03:12.Cecil's reaction and it was relief more than anything. It was. The
:03:12. > :03:16.horse hit the trigger a little too early yesterday. Tom Queally, he
:03:16. > :03:20.just sent the horse home just after he passed the four furlong marker
:03:20. > :03:27.and just lasted home. Henry was of the opinion he was getting bored in
:03:27. > :03:30.front, but a lot of people thought he was getting tired. Any way, I'm
:03:30. > :03:36.sure - he'll never be ridden like that again. I'm sure they'll hang
:03:36. > :03:40.on to him a lot longer and keep the finger away from the trigger.
:03:40. > :03:44.within the last two furlongs. It was exciting. He maintains his
:03:44. > :03:48.record. Lovely horse. Another winner for Henry Cecil and another
:03:48. > :03:54.Royal Ascot winner. He remains our most successful trainer here of the
:03:54. > :03:57.modern era. Various of those are hoping that their fortunes will
:03:57. > :04:04.change or enjoy a good day out. They are coming through the doors
:04:04. > :04:07.in huge hats and small ones. Bright colours and pastels. Lawrie there,
:04:07. > :04:11.closely involved with the special Olympics. Another Southampton
:04:11. > :04:17.connection there, Mick Channon, now a very successful trainer. And
:04:17. > :04:21.Richard Hammond of Top Gear fame and various other programmes as
:04:21. > :04:26.well. Jamie Spencer, still looking for his first winner of the week.
:04:26. > :04:31.Johnny Murtagh won the last, last night and Tom was on board Frankel,
:04:31. > :04:36.within yesterday. William Buick was rueing what might have been. Didn't
:04:36. > :04:41.quite make it in time. Kieren Fallon, who had heavy physio
:04:41. > :04:51.yesterday. Now fit to ride. Ryan Moore there. He will take the ride
:04:51. > :04:56.
:04:56. > :05:00.on so you think. -- So U Think. son had a very good ride in Ireland.
:05:00. > :05:06.Got the business done and they have a runner in the first, that Ryan
:05:06. > :05:10.Moore rides. That's not the main one. The main one is in the third
:05:10. > :05:18.race. We are so excited, because this horse has been given a big
:05:18. > :05:22.leggup by his trainer, saying -- leg-up by the trainer, saying he's
:05:22. > :05:26.possibly the best horse he has trained. This guy has got to be
:05:26. > :05:31.something special. We are all looking forward to seeing him in
:05:31. > :05:36.the paddock. I've never seen him. Lots of people haven't seen him in
:05:36. > :05:46.the flesh, because he's had a huge career in Australia and then
:05:46. > :05:48.
:05:48. > :05:52.Ireland and so we are look ing forward to seeing So You Think.
:05:52. > :05:56.There are a lot of dark clouds and the clerk has said that he expects
:05:56. > :06:01.light showers and it's just spitting, so there may be more
:06:01. > :06:04.moisture coming. However, the going has quickened up over the last 24
:06:04. > :06:10.hours. All around the course the official description is good.
:06:10. > :06:15.Yesterday it was good, good to soft in places. The round course is the
:06:15. > :06:19.same. The straight course, the Royal Hunt Cup takes place over a
:06:19. > :06:22.mile here and the race was run here yesterday and there seemed to be a
:06:22. > :06:26.bias to the stands and that will be maintained throughout the afternoon,
:06:26. > :06:29.I think. There are quite a few runners on the far side and that
:06:29. > :06:33.may prove a negative. You want to be on the standside rail and that
:06:33. > :06:39.will give you an advantage in that race. As Willie and Claire were
:06:39. > :06:46.talking about, the feature race, apart from the Cup is the Prince of
:06:46. > :06:49.Wales' Stakes and the favourite is So You Think. The ground will be
:06:49. > :06:59.fine for him. He'll take a lot of stopping. It's a day we can't wait
:06:59. > :07:05.
:07:05. > :07:08.for. He's been described as something out of the ordinary. He's
:07:08. > :07:13.so excited about the hot favourite, that is Aidan O'Brien. The French
:07:13. > :07:17.have won this in the past three of the fours and they put up Planteur,
:07:17. > :07:21.who has an exciting turn of foot. We'll have an interview and a view
:07:21. > :07:25.into the mind of the ten-times champion trainer, Sir Henry Cecil,
:07:25. > :07:28.who leads the way here at Royal Ascot. We'll get a chance to enjoy
:07:28. > :07:33.Frankie Dettori on his favourite racecourse, the scene of his
:07:33. > :07:38.magnificent seven. He has a strong book of rides today. Kieren Fallon,
:07:38. > :07:44.who missed yesterday with a cicked neck, is trying to add to --
:07:44. > :07:50.cricked neck, is trying to add to his wins here. We will enjoy the
:07:50. > :07:55.talent of Mickael Barzalona, just 19 years old. As always, fashion is
:07:55. > :08:04.very much to the fore. We have the wonderful and we have the slightly
:08:04. > :08:08.weird. The strangest of weather conditions. Pouring with rain one
:08:08. > :08:11.moment and then the sun comes out. It's absolutely glorious. Agentle
:08:11. > :08:20.introduction to fashion yesterday and today. We are really going to
:08:20. > :08:23.step up the gears and we are talking about hats with Louis.
:08:23. > :08:28.so exciting. Here we are celebrating 300 years of Ascot and
:08:28. > :08:33.I have to say, I'm in heaven and of course you are looking stunning in
:08:33. > :08:42.your Jane Taylor hat. All the fathers and you look stunning as
:08:42. > :08:48.always. Thank you very much. We are seeing a lot of feathers today.
:08:48. > :08:55.Here are some beauties. This is very much My Fair Lady. Black and
:08:55. > :08:59.white. Wonderful. Now we have butterflies. I love that whole look.
:08:59. > :09:03.Look at her eyes. Stunning with the hat. Absolutely, the classic
:09:03. > :09:07.English look. This is high street, this hat and she carries that off
:09:07. > :09:12.and added the feathers on that. This is vintage antique bird of
:09:12. > :09:16.paradise and that really is a great plume. Of course, the girls in red.
:09:16. > :09:23.For me, it's African sunset. I love this hat. It's double brimmed and
:09:23. > :09:27.she keeps it clean and fresh and exciting. I adore that look. And
:09:27. > :09:31.it's very much under the sea there. More detail about the hats during
:09:31. > :09:37.the day with you, but yesterday it was the Royal procession that lead
:09:37. > :09:42.the way, I think, in the fashion Stakes. They looked beautiful, but
:09:42. > :09:48.particularly, I think, The Duchess of Cornwall, wearing what she wore
:09:48. > :09:53.to the wedding but she looks amazing in that hat. And the coat
:09:53. > :09:58.too. What I loved about that hat, she can be very elegant and
:09:58. > :10:06.understated and the Queen looks wonderful in the green and the brim
:10:06. > :10:12.and the grown there. It was a scene stealer. It really was. This lady
:10:12. > :10:16.is always stealing the show here as Royal Ascot. You will know if you
:10:16. > :10:22.watch us, Isabel is absolutely gorgeous. Is that one of your
:10:22. > :10:24.designs? The hat, of course, is from DD Valentine and it was
:10:24. > :10:28.inspired by the Victorian riding hat, because of the 300 years
:10:29. > :10:36.celebration and we thought it would be nice to wear something like that.
:10:36. > :10:42.The skirt is one of mine, but the jacket is an old Mugler. I couldn't
:10:42. > :10:46.resist this morning, because I've never won heels and I want to --
:10:46. > :10:49.worn tails and I want to wear them today. You look fantastic. You
:10:49. > :10:54.carry it off very well. It was highly competitive yesterday. I
:10:54. > :10:58.thought it was tricky to pick winners, but in the end, punters or
:10:58. > :11:03.bookies in front? Punters. The bookies are suffering after day one.
:11:03. > :11:06.May they suffer up to day five. They've not heard me, have they?
:11:06. > :11:13.Canford Cliffs and the one in the last. Last was massive. Before we
:11:13. > :11:17.went off air, we said they took 3-1, but to return there were plenty of
:11:17. > :11:23.cheers. What about today? It looks harder, but we'll look at the
:11:23. > :11:33.horses that have been backed today. In the first race we have
:11:33. > :11:35.
:11:35. > :11:44.Codemaster. It's now less 2-1. Various fortunes. Also in the 3.05
:11:44. > :11:54.Sajjhaa. Then So You Think, now 2-5. Williams hills put a 90,000 to win
:11:54. > :11:55.
:11:55. > :12:01.and boylesports 45,000 to win 20. Fortunes for that one. Which one of
:12:01. > :12:05.those would you back? I've got to put the first one. Codemaster?
:12:06. > :12:09.Fortune to it all morning. The gamble is continuing. We'll keep
:12:09. > :12:13.you up-to-date throughout the afternoon. I'm not surprised to
:12:13. > :12:17.hear Gary say it looks harder. It always does. It starts off with the
:12:17. > :12:21.three group ones on the first day, fantastic racing and favourites
:12:21. > :12:25.should go in, but it gets more competitive today and we have a
:12:25. > :12:35.really good mix of racing, handicaps and group ones here this
:12:35. > :12:47.
:12:47. > :12:52.afternoon. Let's look at the menu Race two is the Windsor Forest
:12:52. > :12:57.Stakes. It's a collection of very smart fillies and mares and Johnny
:12:57. > :13:04.Murtagh is the most significant riding engagement for Jacqueline
:13:04. > :13:10.Quest. Then they'll be talking about this one for weeks, I reckon.
:13:10. > :13:15.We see So You Think stepping out. Then 28 runners face the starter
:13:15. > :13:18.for the charge up the straight. One of the most competitive races of
:13:19. > :13:26.the week and then that's on BBC Two, don't forget. We start the first
:13:26. > :13:31.two races on BBC One. Here is the Queen Mary Stakes. The fillies here
:13:31. > :13:37.and then the 5.35, on the red button and it's the Sandringham
:13:37. > :13:47.Handicap. It's over a mile and the Queen has a runner. Here's the non-
:13:47. > :14:06.
:14:06. > :14:09.us talk through the Royal procession. Did you enjoy
:14:09. > :14:13.yesterday? It was lovely. So nice to be back, I must say and to see
:14:13. > :14:17.it all in the sun. Not quite so lucky today. The Royal procession
:14:17. > :14:23.has started already, but I fear, or they may have got wet on the way,
:14:23. > :14:28.but now the sun. We may get a rainbow. We might. I'm sure the
:14:28. > :14:33.Queen will stay until the end, because she has a runner. She has a
:14:33. > :14:37.good chance. Maybe I'll put money on it. The Queen's had 20 winners
:14:37. > :14:43.over the years, so maybe 21 on the way? Fantastic. I don't know what
:14:43. > :14:49.colour the money is on for what she is wearing today. It looks to me,
:14:49. > :14:55.as if she is wearing ah, pink! That puts me in my place. Absolutely. I
:14:55. > :15:01.said blue. With her, the Duke, on the second day, looking very happy.
:15:01. > :15:11.Pink and white, so in the first carriage we have the Queen and the
:15:11. > :15:14.
:15:14. > :15:20.Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke of Abercorn and the Duke of Dalbussy.
:15:20. > :15:27.His wife was here yesterday. He was an Ulster Unionist MP as a young
:15:27. > :15:33.man. I love the way the Prince is looking over to see how far the
:15:33. > :15:37.wheels are in the ground. He's presenting a trophy. In the second
:15:37. > :15:41.carriage we have princess Alexandra in the purple and we have The
:15:41. > :15:48.Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Gloucester and Mr Christopher
:15:48. > :15:53.Rhys Jones. The wind is getting up. Very much a family carriage. The
:15:53. > :16:03.Duke of Gloucester and princess Alexandra, both cousins of the
:16:03. > :16:10.
:16:10. > :16:15.Queen. Both grandchildren of George 56. -- George V. It's lovely to see
:16:15. > :16:21.Sophie's father included there. It would be nice to see the Middletons
:16:21. > :16:31.here in the future. Lord Vesty there. Saluting the crowd and on
:16:31. > :16:36.Sid him is his wife. We also have lady Braborne and Mr Sam Bullard,
:16:36. > :16:42.who gives so much advice to Sheikh Mohammed and runs the Darley side
:16:42. > :16:45.of breeding. He's director of stallions. What does one do with
:16:45. > :16:49.that Basically makes sure they are all well promoted and mares come to
:16:49. > :16:57.visit and also advises on the horses to buy in terms of making
:16:57. > :17:01.potentially good stal Johns. Ah. -- stallions. Ah. It's not hands on?
:17:01. > :17:05.He doesn't direct operations, as it were! What a wonderful sight. Even
:17:05. > :17:15.though the sun isn't out, it's wonderful. In the fourth we have
:17:15. > :17:19.
:17:19. > :17:29.Sir Anthony Bamford and his wife. Dramatic hat and also MrAnt any
:17:29. > :17:32.
:17:32. > :17:39.Lauriston- Clarke his wife. Anthony is the chairman of JCB and
:17:39. > :17:42.his wife is a horse owner. She won the Oaks? Yes. Fantastic. She also
:17:42. > :17:50.has a huge organic farm and a lovely spar in Gloucestershire, so
:17:50. > :17:55.she is very green. The Windsor greys getting frisky in front. They
:17:55. > :17:59.need to try to stay in trot and it's a measured pace. They'll be
:17:59. > :18:03.looking for their summer holidays. In August and September they are
:18:03. > :18:07.put out to grass at Hampton Court, I think. Very nice spot to be. Now,
:18:07. > :18:14.what do we have in terms of the details of the outfit? The Queen is
:18:14. > :18:24.wearing a pink and white spotted dress by Stewart Parvin. She wears
:18:24. > :18:26.
:18:26. > :18:31.a lot from him and a white coat and her hat, if she can hold it on, is
:18:31. > :18:35.Philip Summerville. It looks like a Mr Whippy. I'm sure it's not the
:18:35. > :18:39.technical term. It does, delicious! It's lovely to think that these two
:18:39. > :18:46.have been married now for nearly 64 years and what a strong partnership
:18:46. > :18:51.it is. She fell for him - he's having a nice laugh there - when
:18:51. > :18:57.she was 13. He was showing her around Dartmouth naval college and
:18:57. > :19:01.she thought he is a bit of a stunner. He was. And he was. A
:19:01. > :19:04.prince in his own right. I love the fact that the sparkle is still
:19:04. > :19:08.there between them after more than 60 years of marriage and more than
:19:08. > :19:13.70 years of knowing one another. You see it from time to time.
:19:13. > :19:19.sense of humour helps. I think so. What the Duke said at the 50th
:19:19. > :19:24.wedding anniversary was that the Queen has tolerance and that's a
:19:25. > :19:32.very necessary ingredient for a long marriage. She depends on him a
:19:32. > :19:35.great deal. She at the same dinner, said that Prince Phillip has quite
:19:35. > :19:39.simply been her stay and the country owes him a debt of
:19:39. > :19:45.gratitude that probably neither he nor we fully recognise. I thought
:19:45. > :19:50.it was a wonderful tribute. He's the longer serving concert? Indeed.
:19:50. > :19:54.In a few years' time she may well be the longest serving monarch, but
:19:54. > :19:58.I think Very Wisely from the start, she has let him wear the trousers
:19:58. > :20:03.at home. He is the boss at home, as I think you know. Not in that much
:20:03. > :20:06.detail, but I did have a funny experience having lunch at Windsor
:20:06. > :20:09.Castle and Prince Phillip has a bell in front of him and it's up to
:20:09. > :20:12.him to ring the bell to tell the servants to come through to clear
:20:12. > :20:20.each course and he was deeply involved in a conversation so the
:20:20. > :20:26.call came down, Philip, bell! she not have one of her own? No, he
:20:26. > :20:29.said certainly not. I think that is a secret of how they've kept going
:20:29. > :20:32.in partnership. For a man as proud of Prince Phillip, a Royal Prince
:20:32. > :20:38.himself, quite hard to play second fiddle the whole time, which is
:20:38. > :20:42.something he's had to do. He said from the start he regards it as his
:20:42. > :20:49.prime duty. Of course, that's why he gave up his naval career and
:20:49. > :20:53.it's wonderful she has made him Lord High Admiral for his 90th
:20:53. > :20:56.birthday, and it's a nice touch. You can see the vast expanse of the
:20:56. > :21:04.new grandstand. It's such an impressive building and it runs for
:21:04. > :21:14.nearly quarter of a mile. It's nearly two furlongs long. That's
:21:14. > :21:36.
:21:36. > :21:46.why my feet hurt so much yesterday! We'll pause for the National Anthem.
:21:46. > :21:56.
:21:56. > :22:00.(the National Anthem) We talked earlier about the Queen's
:22:00. > :22:04.involvement in racing today, specifically with Humdrum running
:22:04. > :22:10.in the last, but the important thing to notice is she owns the
:22:10. > :22:14.racecourse and it has always been Royal land. 300 years ago, queen
:22:14. > :22:17.Anne who sounded quite a feisty character, we were told was
:22:17. > :22:22.rampaging through the forest in a one-horse chariot, because she was
:22:22. > :22:26.too fat to ride any more and she thought this is a great place for a
:22:26. > :22:32.racecourse and here we are 300 years later. She said the perfect
:22:32. > :22:36.place for horses to gallop at full stretch. And in the first races it
:22:36. > :22:39.was hunters. Very big stirredy things and ran for 12 miles. They
:22:39. > :22:44.ran in three heats of four miles and the last one standing was the
:22:44. > :22:48.one that would win. It has changed entirely, but we still have
:22:48. > :22:53.traditions. Years ago it used to be a boxing match after the races and
:22:53. > :23:03.quite vicious boxing matches. I'm told one Tom Sellway in 1777 lost
:23:03. > :23:08.an eye, but we have a sing-song now. I think it's rather safer. In those
:23:08. > :23:14.days, women weren't really allowed to own race horses. You probably
:23:14. > :23:18.know who used the pseudonym Mr Jersey for her horses? Was that
:23:18. > :23:23.Lillie Langtry? It was. I knew you would know that. The Jersey Stakes
:23:23. > :23:28.is today. It's the first race today. I wonder if it goes back to that?
:23:28. > :23:32.They'll be heading soon up into the Royal box. Queen Victoria got so
:23:32. > :23:35.excited about the racing once he tried to lean out of the window not
:23:35. > :23:41.realising it was closed and shattered it. She survived to tell
:23:41. > :23:47.the tale. The Queen still rides. Some people think she doesn't, but
:23:47. > :23:52.I saw a picture of her recently with her youngest grandchildren on
:23:52. > :23:55.horseback. With theerly of Wessex's children? That's right. The Queen
:23:55. > :24:02.had to stop riding for a while under medical advice and there was
:24:03. > :24:12.a lot of talk she had given up, but she has absolutely has not. Here
:24:13. > :24:13.
:24:13. > :24:16.they come into the parade ring. APPLAUSE
:24:16. > :24:20.It's interesting, on a sporting level, the American trainers and
:24:20. > :24:23.Australians that are here, were making comparisons the Americans
:24:23. > :24:28.with the Breeders' Cup and the Australians with their festival in
:24:28. > :24:34.Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup, but nowhere else in the world has
:24:34. > :24:36.this. It is quite something to see, as they come around now. The crowds
:24:36. > :24:40.are applauding. This is what they've waited to see. They've
:24:40. > :24:47.stood here in the rain and now the sun's come out. The weather
:24:47. > :24:50.forecast for tomorrow and Friday is pretty dreadful. Fortunately, I
:24:50. > :24:54.sharn't be here! Thank you. The Queen's very much the one who makes
:24:54. > :24:57.the decision. It was interesting the day of Trooping the Colour, it
:24:57. > :25:02.started to rain before the carriage procession, but clearly the Queen
:25:02. > :25:12.had said we are going with the roof down and we'll be fine and again
:25:12. > :25:15.
:25:15. > :25:19.today. It's the most lovely atmosphere and it's excitement
:25:19. > :25:25.combined with deep respect and enthusiasm for the Queen and for
:25:25. > :25:30.the Royal Family. It's a wonderful sight. Of course, their busy year
:25:30. > :25:37.isn't over. They have another Royal Wedding with Zara Philips. Marrying
:25:37. > :25:43.Mike Tindall. I hoped they might be here. I gather he's been having a
:25:43. > :25:48.rather exciting stag weekend in Miami Beach. As they dismount from
:25:48. > :25:53.the lead carriage, we'll enjoy again the wonderful shots of this
:25:53. > :25:57.Royal procession coming down the straight mile. Prince Phillip
:25:57. > :26:02.pointing out different things that he notices along the way and again,
:26:02. > :26:12.the Queen warmly responding to the crowds here. Both of them have a
:26:12. > :26:13.
:26:13. > :26:17.very keen eye for detail. They love the small parts and that keeps you
:26:17. > :26:21.enthusiastic noticing small things. I don't know when they'll show
:26:21. > :26:25.their age, but they're not doing it at the moment. Thank you very much
:26:25. > :26:29.Jennie Bond. The Royal party will make their way up to the Royal box
:26:29. > :26:35.and as they do so, we will see where the money is going here on
:26:35. > :26:40.the second day of Royal Ascot. in the betting ring. The opening
:26:40. > :26:48.race, the Jersey Stakes. You can see the favourite, 2-1, Codemaster.
:26:48. > :26:53.4-1 for Havane Smoker. Oracle is ridden by Ryan Moore. He was a
:26:53. > :26:58.strong fancy for the top jockeys' championship this week and here's
:26:58. > :27:07.one of the best and we were hoping Ryan Moore wouldn't ride a wen, but
:27:07. > :27:15.it never worked out He has -- a winner, but it never worked out. He
:27:15. > :27:20.has gone and spoilt it. He's 3-1 on. You frightened the life out of me
:27:20. > :27:26.then. You know where he's been all morning? Looking at the animals.
:27:26. > :27:30.He's been at the save Farrah park. He got the tie from there. It's a
:27:30. > :27:36.cracker. All week we are getting tips for people. I have to say we
:27:36. > :27:41.did all right. You did good. Mine travelled beautifully in rear and
:27:41. > :27:50.stayed there all the way through. What are we going for today?
:27:50. > :27:56.followed the money. This first race here code mass ter, -- Codemaster,
:27:56. > :28:04.has been 3-1 and now it was eleven and now 5-2 and 2-1 or less in the
:28:04. > :28:07.ring and I think at that price it's mine. Willie, go on. I'm going for
:28:07. > :28:12.Sajjhaa. Frankie Dettori you can never leave him out at Ascot. I
:28:12. > :28:22.would think one has a big chance and he can get me out of problem.
:28:22. > :28:22.
:28:22. > :28:31.He never got me out of trouble. Walter Buick, he fell asleep.
:28:31. > :28:37.William?! I'm going for Start Right. He should tack over to the near
:28:37. > :28:42.side. I have to fancy this horse is better. Kieren Fallon's neck injury
:28:42. > :28:47.will be OK. He'll be looking around for dangers. When you are the top
:28:47. > :28:50.jockey here, they give you an armband. They always do and when
:28:51. > :28:57.the first race yesterday was run, Richard Hughes won the race and he
:28:57. > :29:04.has been wearing the armband ever since. It's a golden one that they
:29:04. > :29:09.put on the sleeve. Ryan Moore is in front. What we are going to do is
:29:09. > :29:13.give an armband to whoever is in front in the tipping competition
:29:13. > :29:17.and this is going to break my heart, but look, you have got to put this
:29:17. > :29:24.on your hand and keep it there, because you are the leading tipster.
:29:24. > :29:33.I can't believe it. First winner in 25 years. Royal! Absolutely. You
:29:33. > :29:40.have to wear that. It's not big enough. Have you got one in XXXL?
:29:40. > :29:43.It's only borrowed. Come on Frankie! We are not too far away
:29:43. > :29:47.from the first race. Christophe Soumillon is with me. To begin with,
:29:47. > :29:52.Havane Smoker in the first race, last time you didn't ride him, but
:29:52. > :29:58.he was second in the French 2000 Guineas. He drops in trip. Will
:29:58. > :30:02.that help? Listen, the first start was on seven furlongs. Last year
:30:02. > :30:05.when I won on him he did well. I think he's better on seven for sure.
:30:05. > :30:10.The last time in the French Guineas he was hitting the front and the
:30:10. > :30:14.last 200 metres you can seement p actions going shorter so it was
:30:14. > :30:18.probably -- can see his actions going shorter, so it was probably a
:30:18. > :30:23.distance problem. Now on the straight course, he run for the
:30:23. > :30:33.first time and finished second, so we'll see. Ascot is quite difficult,
:30:33. > :30:45.
:30:45. > :30:54.so even seven furlongs here can be Planeu? All the horses are running
:30:54. > :31:01.after that. So even this horse won. It was a
:31:01. > :31:06.good line. He won easy this time. He is a horse with a very good turn
:31:06. > :31:12.of foot. If the ground is good, he will give a good reply.
:31:12. > :31:17.I wanted to ask you. Everybody is talking about So You Think. Are you
:31:17. > :31:20.scared of him? I am not scared. I want to know how he is running and
:31:20. > :31:24.I would like to see this horse because I think he is a great horse.
:31:24. > :31:31.Many people speak about him over the world when I was in Japan or
:31:31. > :31:38.Hong Kong, from Australia, everybody looked at this horse like
:31:38. > :31:48.a great champion. It is great if Planteau can try to beat him.
:31:48. > :31:49.
:31:49. > :31:55.friends. You last saw them saluting the Queen as she went by in that
:31:55. > :32:01.Royal Procession. Yes, we paid respect to Her Majesty.
:32:01. > :32:03.Now how many times have you been to to Royal Ascot? This is my fifth
:32:03. > :32:07.time. Have you seen the fashions
:32:07. > :32:15.changing? I haven't been watching the fashions! Yes, they have.
:32:15. > :32:20.Do you like a bet? I do. Have you got any tips for us? Well, no.
:32:20. > :32:23.Oh thank you, for that. It is the Jersey Stakes and I'm from Jersey.
:32:23. > :32:28.That's why. And that's a good race to have a
:32:28. > :32:32.flutter on. And how about you? Are you all right there with your arm
:32:32. > :32:38.around me? I'm loving there, darling. Don't worry about that.
:32:38. > :32:42.What do you get up to during the day at Ascot? If I told you, I
:32:42. > :32:47.would get locked up. How many times have you been here?
:32:47. > :32:52.Eleven times. What is it it that is so special?
:32:52. > :32:58.The Queen appears here and we should come and pay our respects.
:32:58. > :33:04.She did look glorious today. She is looking younger and all the
:33:04. > :33:06.women in the beautiful costumes look younger, or is it that I'm
:33:06. > :33:12.getting older? It could be something like that!
:33:12. > :33:16.Do you mind if I squeeze out of your grasp? I am here with two
:33:16. > :33:23.wonderful ladies who know something about style about style and
:33:23. > :33:26.elegance. I love the style. Who is your hat by? Harold and Hatters.
:33:26. > :33:30.You execute that very well. Over here, we have that beautiful look
:33:30. > :33:37.with the hair really beautiful, clean up and really show casing the
:33:37. > :33:40.hat. Who is your design inspiration? I would like to think
:33:40. > :33:45.Alexander McQueen. Don't you think that look is really
:33:45. > :33:54.well put together. Really well put together and
:33:54. > :34:04.for Codemaster. This is the team responsible for the favourite, the
:34:04. > :34:07.
:34:07. > :34:13.trainer, Dane O'Neill will be the man on board.
:34:13. > :34:17.Yesterday in our last race, these colours enjoyed their first Royal
:34:17. > :34:24.Ascot success courtesy of this horse. It is because he was so
:34:24. > :34:31.impressive that the money has come in the Queen Mary today. A lovely
:34:31. > :34:37.horse. A wonderful moment for sheikh Fad.
:34:37. > :34:42.How did you enjoy that yesterday? It was an amazing day. The first
:34:42. > :34:46.winner at Royal Ascot. That all goes to the team. Hopefully we have
:34:46. > :34:50.some something -- something nice running today.
:34:50. > :34:53.A lot of people think you are going to win this today? I am hopeful. If
:34:53. > :34:55.he finishes in the top three, I will be happy.
:34:55. > :34:58.You are new to the sport of flat racing and you have committed
:34:58. > :35:05.yourself and your family to it. How is everyone enjoying the
:35:05. > :35:10.experience? The family love the horses and it is in our history.
:35:10. > :35:13.Ascot has been a good year. We are happy about that and hopefully many
:35:13. > :35:16.to come. You have changed the ownership to
:35:16. > :35:25.involve your brothers more? Yes, the family are here today. My two
:35:25. > :35:29.other brothers are here. So it is nice to have them running in the
:35:29. > :35:33.family colours. For us, it has got to be the family colours.
:35:33. > :35:37.Why British racing? Why not America, Australia or France? Because this
:35:38. > :35:42.is the best racing in the world. There is no doubt about that. I
:35:42. > :35:46.love the surface. We have some in America, but most of them are here
:35:46. > :35:49.and in Ireland. We are thrilled that you have got a
:35:49. > :35:59.Royal Ascot winner on the board and hopefully more to come.
:35:59. > :36:07.
:36:07. > :36:12.is Havane Smoker. Flashpoint heading down early. Willie, you are
:36:12. > :36:17.seeing horses you really like. It won the Coventry Stakes last year
:36:17. > :36:23.as a two-year-old. He lost his form a bit. If he comes
:36:23. > :36:28.back to, he had a wind problem and he has had an operation on his wind
:36:28. > :36:35.so maybe if that is a success, this guy will take a lot of beating
:36:35. > :36:39.because go back to his Coventry form, he was talked as Canford
:36:39. > :36:43.Cliffs. He was a super horse last year when
:36:43. > :36:48.he won the coffin Coventry Stakes. A lot of people thought he would be
:36:48. > :36:51.a similar horse to Canford Cliffs. He breathing problems. If it is a
:36:51. > :36:55.success, he will run a big race today.
:36:55. > :36:58.And we saw Havane Smoker on the way down to the start. I know you like
:36:58. > :37:07.the French horse? It is a good looking colt. It is full of muscle.
:37:07. > :37:12.This is a seven furlong race. It is like a sprint race. So it is a
:37:12. > :37:16.specialist, it is for specialist type horses with a lot of speed and
:37:16. > :37:22.stamina and you can sometimes get horses who don't stay the mile or
:37:22. > :37:27.who are not quick enough. Seven, this race, the Jersey Stakes is for
:37:27. > :37:33.them. I would think that the French horse as we were looking at, he
:37:33. > :37:38.looks like a sprinter because he was all muscle, big shoulder and a
:37:38. > :37:42.big back side. Richard Hannon won the opening race
:37:42. > :37:50.yesterday with Canford Cliffs which was queue for celebrations I think.
:37:50. > :37:56.Yeah, we had a great time especially to beat beat Goldikova
:37:56. > :38:00.and everyone is delighted. Even the yards in the lad, most of those are
:38:00. > :38:03.Indians and they don't drink. You can enjoy without alcohol, you
:38:03. > :38:07.know! I am hoping he comes back to the
:38:07. > :38:14.form. He had a breathing operation, hasn't he? He has, yes.
:38:14. > :38:19.It was frightening him. When we looked at his larnx. It was tiny.
:38:19. > :38:23.He wasn't getting much air. He was frightening himself and he appears
:38:23. > :38:27.to be back to his best now. We took him to Kempton last week. We don't
:38:27. > :38:34.know what we are going to do from that draw. I think we might stay on
:38:34. > :38:40.the far side. He is a talented horse. You don't win a Coventry and
:38:41. > :38:44.not be very good. So realistic rather than optimistic
:38:44. > :38:50.and Codemaster looks a hard one to crack? Yes, he will be a hard one
:38:50. > :38:56.to beat. But our horse if he runs well, he will be one to look for in
:38:56. > :38:59.the coming months. Seven furlongs an unusual distance. You are
:38:59. > :39:03.looking for a bit of classic form as well. That's why I think this
:39:04. > :39:13.French horse is going to go well. Let's have a look now at runners
:39:14. > :39:46.
:39:46. > :39:49.and riders for the Jersey Stakes. jump from the stalls. It is
:39:49. > :39:57.straight up the strait here at Ascot.
:39:57. > :40:02.It will be different for the Frenchman, that's for sure. Up
:40:02. > :40:12.towards the Winning Post and it is a stiff uphill climb. Seven
:40:12. > :40:33.
:40:33. > :40:39.furlongs, the trip for the Jersey yesterday. Codemaster has been back
:40:39. > :40:45.nood 7-4 favourite. Everybody wants to be on it. It won't start 2-1. 7-
:40:45. > :40:48.4 is solid. 7-4 then.
:40:48. > :40:52.We have great racing coming up. Codemaster is favourite for this
:40:52. > :40:58.race. There is a few horses in it that are bigger prices than they
:40:58. > :41:04.should be. Let's talk about Codemaster? His win at Newmarket
:41:04. > :41:08.was impressive. He took a long time to get going that day. He looked
:41:08. > :41:18.green. The further he went the better he was. He looked impressive.
:41:18. > :41:22.
:41:22. > :41:30.There he is with Dane O'Neill. We spoke about Havane Smoker
:41:30. > :41:35.earlier. A 9-2 chance. He travelled really good. You would say he
:41:35. > :41:40.struggled to get the mile. The drom back to -- drop back to seven
:41:40. > :41:45.furlongs could be his stride and a good price at 7-2.
:41:45. > :41:51.He is 7-2. Here is Johnny Murtagh's ride which is Western Aristocrat.
:41:51. > :41:55.This horse had a couple of runs. He won both of them. He is the won who
:41:55. > :41:59.is a 9-2 chance. We have seen a horse that's been placed in the
:41:59. > :42:05.classic, this one only had the two runs. He is on the upgrade all the
:42:05. > :42:10.time? The combination of Johnny Murtagh. He was successful
:42:10. > :42:14.Proclamation and they know what it takes to win this race.
:42:14. > :42:20.Really impressive looker. Beautiful mover and he has got to improve on
:42:20. > :42:23.his two wins, but he look as if he has got a little bit of class about
:42:23. > :42:29.him. Another one who has been in classic
:42:29. > :42:33.races is Oracle. Here he is, he was third last time behind Roderick
:42:33. > :42:37.O'Connor in the Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh. This is an easier
:42:37. > :42:41.race. It is not such high quality. The stables had winners and so has
:42:41. > :42:45.the jockey, Ryan Moore. The stables are in excellent form.
:42:45. > :42:48.They have struck up a good relationship, Ryan Moore and Aidan
:42:48. > :42:56.O'Brien. With him as well, the drop back to seven furlongs will not
:42:56. > :43:06.inconvenience him. It will help him. Splash Point, Frankie Dettori
:43:06. > :43:06.
:43:06. > :43:10.riding for ga dolphin. He won in February. He has had one run
:43:10. > :43:17.subsequently and he was tenth of fourteen so he is coming back from
:43:17. > :43:23.a little bit of a break. I suppose he is perhaps taking a drop in
:43:23. > :43:27.class. You wonder about his fitness, I suppose today. Yes.
:43:27. > :43:31.He looks very well. He looks a picture and really relaxed and
:43:31. > :43:34.looks well up for the race. Like you say, on his form today, he
:43:34. > :43:38.probably has got a bit to find with one or two of these horses this
:43:38. > :43:41.this race. It is a warm Jersey this year and there are one or two
:43:41. > :43:51.horses in there with excellent chances.
:43:51. > :44:03.
:44:03. > :44:08.cash. This is Majestic Myles. He takes a
:44:08. > :44:11.step up in trip. A 20-1 chance and if you are backing him, you are
:44:11. > :44:16.taking the chance which is why you are getting 20-1 that he will be
:44:16. > :44:22.able to make improvement for the step up in trip. Here is Utley who
:44:22. > :44:26.is number 9 on the cards. William Buick rides this. He had plenty of
:44:26. > :44:32.chance to say win good races. This is his fifth and he hasn't managed
:44:32. > :44:35.to get his head in front. He is well travelled. He has been here,
:44:35. > :44:41.there and everywhere. He was behind Wootton Bassett, but they have got
:44:41. > :44:47.the blinkers on him today. He ran a descent fourth at Epsom, but he has
:44:47. > :44:57.got quite a bit to find. Codemaster a solid 7-4 favourite.
:44:57. > :44:58.
:44:58. > :45:06.Let's go up to the top of the Jersey. Only three to go forward
:45:06. > :45:16.now and we see Splash Point coming forward now in company with
:45:16. > :45:17.
:45:18. > :45:21.Codemaster and that will only leave Havane Smoker. The jockey has been
:45:21. > :45:26.reunited with this colt. It has been a long absence. The last time
:45:26. > :45:34.he rode him was last September. He moves in. Set to go. Ready for the
:45:34. > :45:38.Jersey. Racing. A good even, dispatch too. Quickly
:45:38. > :45:46.away. Up there too is Majestic Myles and just slotting in behind
:45:46. > :45:51.them is Oracle in the purple jacket. Codemaster on the near side is two
:45:51. > :45:58.lengths away is Splash Point. Out the back is Western Aristocrat and
:45:58. > :46:06.being ridden patiently at the rear is Havane Smoker. Unsettling Utley
:46:06. > :46:10.charged away from them. Utley in front. From Strong Suit. A length
:46:10. > :46:14.further back, Oracle travelling on the outside of Codemaster who is
:46:14. > :46:17.centre field. Splash Point is further back and then Western
:46:17. > :46:20.Aristocrat and Havane Smoker. He is really stretching them Utley as
:46:20. > :46:25.they race on to the course proper now. Two-and-a-half furlongs to go.
:46:25. > :46:30.He is out in front by four to five lengths, Utley and he is going for
:46:30. > :46:36.home. Strong Suit is doing the donkey work followed by Splash
:46:36. > :46:41.Point then coming is Oracle and also Codemaster. Racing up with
:46:41. > :46:45.over a furlong to go and Strong Suit has raced through to take it
:46:45. > :46:53.from Oracle. Battling away is Codemaster and Splash Point on the
:46:53. > :46:58.far side. But it is Strong Suit. He has rejupnated. He is back in the
:46:58. > :47:05.Winner's Enclosure at Ascot. Codemaster is second. Third,
:47:05. > :47:10.Western Aristocrat. And further back then is Majestic Myles. Splash
:47:10. > :47:18.Point behind them. Oracle one of the last with Utley and also Havane
:47:18. > :47:24.Smoker. Strong Suit at 11-1. The the Coventry Stakes winner last
:47:24. > :47:28.year. His form went off. You heard Richard Hannon Junior telling us
:47:28. > :47:34.about the breathing operation. Strong Suit has won the Jersey for
:47:34. > :47:44.hitch ard Hughes. In second is Codemaster. In third is Western
:47:44. > :47:46.
:47:46. > :47:50.Aristocrat. Fourth, Oracle. In fifth, Splash Point. In sixth is
:47:50. > :47:58.Sikeeb. Disappointing Havane Smoker and Utley who took them along at a
:47:58. > :48:03.very fast pace has finished last. So the winner is Strong Suit owned
:48:03. > :48:07.by Mrs Julie Wood and train by Mr Richard Hannon and ridden by
:48:07. > :48:10.Richard Hughes. Yesterday, the opening race going to this
:48:11. > :48:15.combination, the Hannon Hughes combination and today they start
:48:15. > :48:20.proceedings in the same manner with a winner. There they are, son and
:48:20. > :48:25.father. Father and son. Richard Hannon senior. There he is.
:48:25. > :48:28.And he will be elated by this victory. Second is Codemaster.
:48:28. > :48:36.Third is Number Ten, Western Aristocrat and fourth is Oracle.
:48:36. > :48:40.Let's have a check on the result of the first race. Strong Suit 11-1.
:48:40. > :48:50.Codemaster 15-8 favourite and Western Aristocrat 9-2, you can't
:48:50. > :48:51.
:48:51. > :48:56.will do when he gets back in the jockey room will grab that golden
:48:56. > :49:03.arm band to say I am the leading jockey. He know that is Utley is
:49:03. > :49:08.going too fast, but if he keeps tabs on that leader. Codemaster has
:49:08. > :49:12.run very well and done little wrong. A horse that hasn't shown his best
:49:13. > :49:19.form is Havane Smoker who pulled too hard early on and ruin his
:49:19. > :49:21.chances. Look at Strong Suit stretch and this is where the
:49:21. > :49:27.breathing operation was going to work or not. Would the horse be
:49:27. > :49:32.scared when he went for it? Well, he is not, because he can breathe.
:49:32. > :49:37.When he won the Coventry, he was spoken in the same view as Canford
:49:37. > :49:41.Cliffs and we have seen what he did yesterday. Now this horse obviously
:49:41. > :49:45.his wind operation is a success, but what we saw there was a master
:49:45. > :49:51.at work. Richard Hughes, who normally gets his horses out the
:49:51. > :49:55.back and settles them, but today he saw the opportunity there of a nice
:49:55. > :49:59.leap from William Buick and he sat second, sat nice and quiet on his
:49:59. > :50:03.horse, let the other horse come back to him without asking his
:50:03. > :50:10.horse and when he got to the furlong-and-a-half, no other horse
:50:10. > :50:14.had shown its head at his elbow so he said, "let's go." There you saw
:50:14. > :50:17.the result. His horse picked up for him and won nicely indeed. A master
:50:17. > :50:22.at work. You saw a shot of Richard Hannon
:50:22. > :50:28.who last year for the first time in his career was leading trainer at
:50:28. > :50:32.at Royal Ascot. He is Richard Hughes' father-in-law. A great team
:50:32. > :50:36.they make. They have a wonderful time with their owners. They make
:50:36. > :50:44.sure they enjoy life. It is easier to enjoy it when you are winning
:50:44. > :50:50.and they are coming into the Winner's Enclosure at Royal Ascot.
:50:50. > :51:00.Richard Hughes delighted. Julie Wood congratulating him as he comes
:51:00. > :51:01.
:51:01. > :51:08.back into the Winner's Enclosure. The winning distance a half neck.
:51:08. > :51:15.It is 1.5 seconds outside Rainfall's record. Strong Suit a
:51:15. > :51:20.big performance because he was giving a big weight. He carried 9.6.
:51:20. > :51:24.This colt. What will interest breeders and I'm sure Willie will
:51:24. > :51:32.have a comment because he has his own stud, I am right, I think
:51:32. > :51:37.Willie in thinking that Strong Suit is a horse who is completely
:51:37. > :51:42.without any Northern Dancer blood in him which will make him an
:51:42. > :51:47.attractive outcross. Before we ask Willie, here is the trainer.
:51:47. > :51:50.A very successful and satisfying start to day two particularly
:51:51. > :51:53.because this horse hadn't been showing his best. You gave him the
:51:53. > :52:02.breathing operation. When did he start showing he might have that
:52:02. > :52:06.problem? You never had a horse going past you. But Hughes said he
:52:06. > :52:10.was gulping pulling up and we put the overhead camera on him and you
:52:10. > :52:14.could see he was closing up, couldn't we? We took him to Kempton
:52:15. > :52:21.the other day with Canford Cliffs and he worked brilliant.
:52:21. > :52:26.Richard, can you explain to us what difference it makes having a horse
:52:26. > :52:32.who can breathe? Well, I knew how good he was in the Coventry. He did
:52:32. > :52:37.it in Ireland last year. He was like someone shot him and then we
:52:37. > :52:43.were scratching our head and he never seemed the same. He got the
:52:43. > :52:48.wobbles with me in the Greenham and we got the camera on him and that
:52:48. > :52:53.revealed the problem. They have done a great job who operated.
:52:53. > :52:58.Utley has gone a cracking gallop and you travelled beautifully?
:52:58. > :53:01.That's him flying again. He couldn't do that when his breathing
:53:01. > :53:08.was annoying him. Snoot further he went -- The the
:53:08. > :53:14.further he went the more his throat was closing. It frighten the horse.
:53:14. > :53:20.-- it frightened his horse. Richard, you have to go off. After
:53:20. > :53:28.he won the Coventry Stakes, would you have exciting targets for him,
:53:28. > :53:32.possibly take on Canford Cliffs? has got a 5lb penalty. He has done
:53:32. > :53:42.a good job of that. Where you consider six and a mile?
:53:42. > :53:45.
:53:45. > :53:50.A mile wouldn't worry him. Wins the Jersey Stakes. Second was
:53:50. > :53:53.Codemaster and third, Western Aristocrat. The bookmakers dodged a
:53:53. > :54:03.bullet there. Yes, I thought Codemaster was a
:54:03. > :54:04.
:54:04. > :54:14.winner. But Richard Hughes was 10-1 before the week started to be top
:54:14. > :54:18.top jockey. The horse he is riding in the last race is a favourite.
:54:18. > :54:24.I will highlight the one, two, three, four. The one you need to
:54:24. > :54:28.watch is Havane Smoker who takes too strong a hold. He won't settle.
:54:28. > :54:34.The French horse, they normally race at a slower gallop and speed
:54:34. > :54:37.up. This has been a strong gallop and he will not gallop.
:54:37. > :54:42.He sets a strong pace early on. If Havane Smoker was going to settle,
:54:43. > :54:47.it was today. As As soon as the gates opened, he wanted to get the
:54:47. > :54:50.horse switched off. He did get him switched off, but he gave a lot of
:54:50. > :54:55.ground away. He got him right at the back of the
:54:55. > :54:59.field in an attempt to get his racing evenly. He hasn't picked up
:54:59. > :55:04.by the end of the race. Let's look at Western Aristocrat. This is a
:55:04. > :55:08.horse who only had two runs before today. Johnny Murtagh takes time at
:55:09. > :55:13.this class of race to find his stride, but he is staying on really
:55:13. > :55:17.well. At this level you expect them to go fast early on and that they
:55:17. > :55:21.did. Western Aristocrat just struggled with the early pace, but
:55:21. > :55:24.once one or two horses started to come back to him and he popped
:55:24. > :55:29.himself into gear, he was the one coming home the best of all.
:55:29. > :55:33.He is a bigger horse thant others. -- than the others. He is going to
:55:33. > :55:36.get better, isn't he? Yes. I think we will see him over a mile next
:55:36. > :55:40.time. We could well see him in the
:55:40. > :55:50.Winner's Enclosure. The winning time 0.16 seconds faster than the
:55:50. > :55:56.
:55:56. > :56:04.average time here. They have gone Stakes is being made by Bryan Ferry
:56:04. > :56:08.and very much the 80s icon of glamour and the new romantics and
:56:08. > :56:13.all of that. Well, going back to the 70s. Julie Wood, the winning
:56:13. > :56:17.owner. A thrill for her and Richard Hannon. I was saying how he managed
:56:17. > :56:23.to become leading trainer here at Royal Ascot for the first time in
:56:23. > :56:28.his career. He wanted Richard Hughes to be leading jockey, but
:56:28. > :56:34.Hughesy got col lard by Ryan Moore. So Hughesy is desperate to do it
:56:34. > :56:42.this time. He is a beautiful jockey, tall and elegant and a wonderful
:56:42. > :56:46.horseman. I loved the way he rode Strong Suit. He put both hands on
:56:46. > :56:49.the reigns and kept him straight and filled him with confidence.
:56:49. > :56:53.All the young kids up and down the country should be looking at that
:56:53. > :57:03.ride. And that's what you want to be copying.
:57:03. > :57:09.
:57:09. > :57:13.The breathing point. McVellon. Northern Dancer was a Canadian bred
:57:13. > :57:23.horse. A lot of the top horses that you see aroundted world -- around
:57:23. > :57:24.
:57:24. > :57:32.the world... He is the granddaddy of nearly everything.
:57:32. > :57:40.I am certain that one horse had something to do with this mare. I
:57:40. > :57:44.should have remembered. You can't remember everything. The
:57:44. > :57:52.jockey reporting that Havane Smoker was feeling the effects of his last.
:57:52. > :57:55.Form doesn't always read true. He is built like a sprinter. He
:57:55. > :58:05.looks like a sprinter and what we saw, he is a sprinter.
:58:05. > :58:06.
:58:07. > :58:13.The win picking up and the -- the wind picking up. Henry Candy will
:58:13. > :58:19.have to wait for a win. Yesterday, we saw the newly knighted Sir Henry
:58:19. > :58:28.Cecil extend his ril Ascot -- Royal Ascot winning streak to 72. Here he
:58:28. > :58:33.is giving instructions. He has two runners in the next race.
:58:33. > :58:36.He is joking around there and talking about the winner he rode
:58:36. > :58:42.yesterday and the fact that Eddie came in and said, "I didn't go as
:58:42. > :58:51.early as Tom.". You know what else he said, it was a ride he wasn't
:58:51. > :58:56.supposed to have. And everybody is shouting at him, "Well done,
:58:56. > :59:00.Kieron.". Henry Cecil remains positive despite under going
:59:00. > :59:10.treatment for stomach cancer. Last week, I went to Newmarket to sit in
:59:10. > :59:13.
:59:13. > :59:17.the garden with Henry and discuss Have we started? Yes.
:59:17. > :59:22.Start again. Start again. Start again.
:59:22. > :59:25.The three things a trainer should be, one is be patient. And two is
:59:25. > :59:29.be patient and three is be patient. Our staff in the last year-and-a-
:59:29. > :59:33.half has been, we are building it up again, because we went down to
:59:33. > :59:37.30 odd horses, you know for about four or five years.
:59:37. > :59:39.You are all on camera so make sure you smile!
:59:39. > :59:43.Just say good morning as you go past.
:59:43. > :59:47.When you went down to so few horses, was that one of the hard things
:59:47. > :59:52.about it actually having to lay off staff? When a stable is thriving
:59:52. > :59:58.and going very well and winning good races, people want to be in it.
:59:58. > :00:02.When it is winning twelve or fourteen races a year and no
:00:02. > :00:06.winners at Royal Ascot, maybe financially they think they would
:00:06. > :00:16.be better off somewhere else. Did you ever lose faith in
:00:16. > :00:20.
:00:20. > :00:25.I got to a stage with everything in my life. The death of my brother
:00:25. > :00:32.and financial things and divorces and I never really thought that I -
:00:32. > :00:37.that was the end of me. I can't be an also-ran. I have children. I
:00:38. > :00:43.would like to think they look up to me. I don't want to be that
:00:43. > :00:46.pathetic and when I hear people on the heath saying there's heny Cecil
:00:46. > :00:51.over there, he should have retired years ago, those sort of things
:00:51. > :00:55.hurt me and I have always been competitive. I thought if I was
:00:55. > :01:01.champion trainer nobody could say I was useless and with the help of
:01:01. > :01:11.Jane and putting the pieces back together again we are getting back
:01:11. > :01:13.
:01:13. > :01:19.again. When did you first start to feel you are on the bridle and
:01:19. > :01:25.running again? I suppose about four years ago, five years ago. Then I
:01:25. > :01:32.was taken ill, which sort of made it more difficult. When you have
:01:32. > :01:36.tried to be very positive and get back there and you can hardly walk
:01:36. > :01:45.with chemotherapy then you don't feel quite so good, but I was
:01:45. > :01:49.determined to get on top of everything. The incredible come-
:01:49. > :01:59.back king, Henry Cecil. Hip, hip. When you've had chemotherapy and
:01:59. > :02:04.you are not feeling great, you know, you know you don't look very well.
:02:04. > :02:09.Actually, they are very kind in the Jockey Club. They did a portrait of
:02:09. > :02:16.me and it's in the rooms and it's very nice and this nice woman
:02:16. > :02:20.painted me and I just had a really big bout of the chemotherapy and I
:02:20. > :02:25.felt awful and I looked awful. It makes me look as if I've got one
:02:25. > :02:33.day to live, but it's a very good painting. I do look ill. She has
:02:33. > :02:43.painted me as I was. But it's quite funny that we have the likes of Sir
:02:43. > :02:45.
:02:45. > :02:50.Reginald with the wax moustache and Henry Cecil lolling in a chair. The
:02:50. > :02:54.fillies love them. Rather than a sugar lump. Life has to be enjoyed.
:02:54. > :02:59.On the heath we Take The Micky out of each other. All the trainers get
:02:59. > :03:07.on well and they treat me as a bit of a joke and I'm taking the Mickey
:03:07. > :03:12.out of them. It's like a cocktail party, but without the drink.
:03:12. > :03:18.is the possibility of winning the Trainers' Championship and it would
:03:18. > :03:24.be the eleventh title for you. very open. I've got a chance. We'll
:03:24. > :03:29.see how we go. I still am pretty small minded and I look at the list
:03:29. > :03:34.and I think I've gone up one or two places. As long as we are up near
:03:34. > :03:38.the top, in the top four or five, then one has to be very pleased and
:03:38. > :03:41.anything better than that would be a bonus and I shall be delighted.
:03:41. > :03:47.Here's Frankel here. Get the fillies out of the way please,
:03:47. > :03:51.quick. I do it all in my head. I can't work computers and I can't
:03:51. > :03:57.work the mobile telephone. I've given it to Jane, because I don't
:03:57. > :04:01.know how to send a message. I'm quite old-fashioned. How important
:04:01. > :04:06.has Jane been in keeping you concentrated on track and keeping
:04:06. > :04:10.you podsive about the training? Jane is a great -- positive about
:04:10. > :04:13.the training? Jane is a great help and very good with the PR. My PR
:04:13. > :04:20.used to be terrible. Getting much better now and she looks after me
:04:20. > :04:24.so well. I had beetroot juice for breakfast and I'm not allowed this
:04:24. > :04:33.and sugar and I'm not allowed cakes and things. She does understand
:04:33. > :04:39.horses too. Prince Khalid is a very private man and he likes giving
:04:39. > :04:42.interviews less than you do. How supportive is he and as an owner?
:04:42. > :04:45.Fantastic owner. I regard him as a very good friend. He's been a very
:04:45. > :04:48.good friend to me through all my problems and everything. He has
:04:48. > :04:55.always been there for me. He's very knowledgeable and he loves the
:04:55. > :05:04.horses and the broding. -- breeding. I'm very, very lucky to have him. I
:05:04. > :05:10.have told him. I have said, "If you decide you've had enough of me then
:05:10. > :05:13.it's time I should go." You would stop training? Yeah. Definitely.
:05:13. > :05:17.Quite a strong line that, that he would strop training if the prince
:05:17. > :05:21.stopped supporting him. If he stopped believing in him then Henry
:05:21. > :05:24.Cecil would walk away, but right at this moment in time he's fifth in
:05:24. > :05:29.the trainers' championship and you can see the jockeys watching and
:05:29. > :05:32.listening to Henry. It's so rare to hear a trainer to have the time to
:05:32. > :05:36.hear from him in depth and understand what they're like as a
:05:36. > :05:42.person and that's why people love Henry Cecil, because they feel that
:05:42. > :05:46.they know him. They support him and they know he's had a hard time and
:05:46. > :05:53.tough ride. He's had a tough time with illness and when he lost a lot
:05:53. > :05:57.of horses and he was used to training 100 horses and more and
:05:57. > :06:01.every year classic horses and good horses and all of a sudden, bang,
:06:01. > :06:07.he's in bad times and he had about three years of struggling, but he's
:06:07. > :06:11.back now. With all the best horses in the world again. There is a
:06:11. > :06:15.genuine chance, particularly if the likes of Frankel keep winning, that
:06:15. > :06:20.he could be champion trainer. Richard Hannon is out in front and
:06:20. > :06:23.then it's open, but Henry is up to fifth from eighth, so he'll have
:06:23. > :06:28.enjoyed that. It was ing in about - - interesting about the prince.
:06:28. > :06:33.He's one of the biggest breeders in the world and he produces very good
:06:33. > :06:37.horses. If Henry can keep getting possibly the pick of them or some
:06:37. > :06:43.of the best ones, you know, why not keep going training? You are going
:06:43. > :06:53.to have classic horses, good horses every year. A quick correction,
:06:53. > :06:54.
:06:54. > :06:58.just a lick one. Rahee is from Blushing Groom. I did get that
:06:58. > :07:01.wrong. Another look at the fashion with Suzie. Thank you very much.
:07:01. > :07:06.I've got Bryan Ferry here, who was earlier presenting one of the
:07:06. > :07:11.trophies. It's very nice to see you here.. You are a fan of the horses?
:07:11. > :07:19.I used to come a fair bit, racing, in my early days and I haven't been
:07:19. > :07:24.to Ascot for a long time, about 20 years. It has changed. You are in
:07:24. > :07:29.between tours. You toured with Roxy Music last year and earlier -
:07:29. > :07:34.went to Australia and did dates in England too. Now I'm going around
:07:34. > :07:40.Europe and then later in the year I go to America, so it's very busy. I
:07:40. > :07:46.was in inStan bull last week and I'm seeing all -- in Istanbul last
:07:46. > :07:53.week and I'm seeing all the great places. We have a big band and it's
:07:53. > :07:57.fun. I've got a day off. It's a lovely place. With obviously the
:07:57. > :08:01.legacy of music that you have brought us, you have style and
:08:01. > :08:05.fashion and you've always been very much into fashion, or it seems from
:08:05. > :08:15.the outside. Where does that come from? I don't know. I was always a
:08:15. > :08:21.
:08:21. > :08:24.big fan of movies and the stars like Cary Grant and people like him.
:08:24. > :08:29.That's my early period. Fashion has always been quite interesting. I
:08:29. > :08:34.studied art when I was college. I've always been into how things
:08:34. > :08:41.look and whether it's a horse or building or a suit or whatever, you
:08:41. > :08:45.get interested in how things are designed. It's nice to be at Ascot,
:08:45. > :08:48.where everybody makes an effort, dressing up and stuff. Everybody is
:08:48. > :08:55.dressed beautifully. Speaking of which, I mentioned to you earlier,
:08:55. > :09:00.we have Anthony Price who - glad you mentioned him. He's a
:09:00. > :09:04.genius designer and a very old friend of mine. He did a lot of my
:09:04. > :09:09.early stuff. I believe he has made some of the Duran Duran stuff.
:09:09. > :09:18.Which cover did he do for you? first five or six. Especially the
:09:18. > :09:24.first one, which was em -- was very famous. You are looking very dapper
:09:24. > :09:28.and debonaire. Thank you for speaking to us. If we wander over,

:09:35. > :09:42.the images we've been seeing. lovely lady is striking. I
:09:42. > :09:49.absolutely adore this look. Now, this is a couple from Argentina and
:09:49. > :09:57.I liked the whole way he is taller, but she has a lovely clean look. A
:09:57. > :10:06.lot of butterflies this year and if you look closer, there are Guinea
:10:06. > :10:10.foul feathers there too -- fowl feathers there too. This is a
:10:10. > :10:16.mature lady. I love this look. She carries it off with style elegance
:10:16. > :10:24.and that classic look. Very quirky hat here. This is a beautiful wave.
:10:25. > :10:33.I just love the detail. She matched it down to the dress. This is lady
:10:33. > :10:39.Amethyst feather and you loved this flapper dress. Very cute. When it
:10:39. > :10:42.moves, just look at the whole texture of that fabric. It's nice
:10:42. > :10:46.to wear something a little different, but staying within the
:10:46. > :10:49.etiquette. No, it's really important that. At the end of the
:10:49. > :10:53.day, summer is about enjoying yourself too. Today is that
:10:53. > :11:03.celebration at Ascot. I love it It's really great. See you in a
:11:03. > :11:05.
:11:05. > :11:11.while. We are in the paddock, looking at the horses here. Frankie
:11:11. > :11:21.Dettori's mount is just getting a little on her toes. She left
:11:21. > :11:24.
:11:24. > :11:29.earlier than a few of them. Sajjhaa is playing up. The other Godolphin
:11:29. > :11:36.runner is still in the paddock. We had David Simcock a few moments ago
:11:36. > :11:42.and his horse is making her way out. Let's look at some of them going
:11:42. > :11:47.out. This is number five, First City. This is David Simcock's and
:11:47. > :11:51.the one behind is I'm A Dreamer, number seven. She is on her way out.
:11:51. > :11:55.The trainer, David Simcock, who I promise to speak to, has
:11:55. > :12:02.disappeared out of my vision. A fast-improving filly. Hasn't got
:12:02. > :12:07.too much to find. Probably David thinks she is capable. Over to Jim
:12:07. > :12:11.to get runners and riders. We had a good view of Sajjhaa. She really
:12:11. > :12:16.was whipping around and very, very anxious, that is why she was
:12:16. > :12:19.mounted out on the course. There she is. She's more relaxed now than
:12:19. > :12:27.she was earlier and she is striding out nicely. Look at her again.
:12:27. > :12:33.There she is. Frankie, just for a couple of seconds, he's had to use
:12:33. > :12:38.all his balance and experience here. She has settled down now. There she
:12:38. > :12:48.is live. She is on her way down to post. Let's check the runners and
:12:48. > :12:48.
:12:48. > :13:32.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds
:13:33. > :13:37.straight course. As you can see, slightly shorter than the first
:13:37. > :13:40.race. It's a demanding course. In the first race, they were racing
:13:40. > :13:44.basically up the middle. This is what we expect once again here.
:13:44. > :13:54.They'll group up, I think and if anything, drift towards the left,
:13:54. > :13:57.
:13:57. > :14:03.as we look at it here. One mile, the distance for the race.
:14:03. > :14:07.promised, I have David Simcock. He has two runners. First City and I'm
:14:07. > :14:11.A Dreamer. I'm A Dreamer, not the top-rated horse, but not far off
:14:11. > :14:14.and she is improving. How confident are you about her chances today?
:14:14. > :14:18.don't know whether you can be confident at Royal Ascot, but we
:14:18. > :14:22.have brought her here in really good order. She's improved from
:14:22. > :14:28.three to four. Big, imposing filly and we are delighted with her. She
:14:28. > :14:30.won well at Newmarket. We were chatting the other day and you were
:14:30. > :14:33.saying about the weather and wanting it to be dry. Conditions
:14:33. > :14:38.dry and fast enough out there for you? Very much so. I don't think
:14:38. > :14:43.there will be any excuses. We have had three good dry days now.
:14:43. > :14:48.Conditions will be fine. No problem. What about First City, after the
:14:48. > :14:52.run at Epsom? Career best for her. There was no race for six weeks
:14:52. > :14:57.after Epsom, so she is entitled to take her chance. They won't
:14:57. > :15:01.disgrace herself, but I would be surprised if she was good enough to
:15:01. > :15:05.win. Dream Ahead ran yesterday after a long layoff since a two-
:15:05. > :15:08.year-old. How pleased were you with that and what would be the plans?
:15:08. > :15:15.Absolutely delighted with him. He ran a great race. Came three wide
:15:15. > :15:20.and made up a lot of ground. Very tired at the end. If I was totally
:15:20. > :15:26.honest, it didn't look like he stayed. Real replan now and we'll
:15:26. > :15:30.look at -- we'll replan now and look at seven furlongs. Come on
:15:30. > :15:40.plenty and when he sees soft ground he'll be a force to be reckoned
:15:40. > :16:01.
:16:01. > :16:10.Dreamer. It's now 7-2. For me, I'm A Dreamer is the strongest of the
:16:10. > :16:14.front two. Jacqueline Quest coming down with the green cap for Sir
:16:14. > :16:20.Henry Cecil. Two runners in this race. Hello. Going for a quick trip
:16:20. > :16:27.around the course there. Jacqueline Quest first-past-the-post and then
:16:27. > :16:33.lost it in the stewards' room. That is Seta. Trained by Luca Cumani.
:16:34. > :16:37.Kieren Fallon missed a wen -- winner yesterday. Could he do it
:16:37. > :16:42.today on this filly? He's always believed in her. She looked
:16:42. > :16:46.impressive at Goodwood last time. She seems to always do it in listed
:16:46. > :16:53.and company. Once she gets into the big girls and the group ones, she
:16:53. > :16:58.seems to fail, so she is falling in between the two. This is a group
:16:58. > :17:03.two, so she will have to slightly improve for me to win this, but she
:17:03. > :17:07.is a talented filly. They've always liked her. Luca Cumani, when she
:17:07. > :17:12.won as a two-year-old on the July Course, she looked a superstar at
:17:12. > :17:16.that stage, but she hasn't quite got to the top. She is still a very
:17:16. > :17:24.good filly and I lovely filly to take back to the paddocks. Lovely
:17:24. > :17:32.to look at. A lot of people will think she's so pretty with the mane
:17:32. > :17:37.and tale and pale chestnut. would look good in the winners'
:17:37. > :17:43.enclosure. Richard Hughes has come in the enclosure on Strong Suit and
:17:43. > :17:49.he's on board with Music Show and he has the golden armband on. He's
:17:49. > :17:53.going to try to stay out in front. Music Show has definite chances of
:17:53. > :17:58.getting placed. She hasn't got the beatings of Sajjhaa. Sajjhaa has
:17:58. > :18:03.got the better of her on form. is a group one winner. She is. She
:18:03. > :18:08.is a tough little filly and obviously she will run a big race
:18:08. > :18:13.again. The form suggests she'll be there abouts. She has won -- if you
:18:13. > :18:19.were backing her, I wouldn't put you off. Big and strong. Massive
:18:19. > :18:25.muscular behind. She has got a good fellow on top. Hughesy, yeah.
:18:26. > :18:30.love him. I do. He's a great horseman. He is. He comes from a
:18:30. > :18:36.real, Irish National hunt family. We have Lolly For Dolly from
:18:36. > :18:41.Ireland. Wayne Lordan. You said when she walked past, blinkers, I
:18:41. > :18:46.don't like that. Not in group races. I like them for horses in handicaps,
:18:46. > :18:49.but it's - when they put them on a horse they have obviously done
:18:49. > :18:58.something or they haven't come up to expectations and there's a
:18:58. > :19:04.jockey trying to get fit there. Who is that? Come Queally. This is
:19:04. > :19:08.interesting. Tom Queally is riding this filly, who on her form, he
:19:08. > :19:11.doesn't look that great. This is why he's got off and is running
:19:11. > :19:17.alongside. She got spooked on the way down to the start. She looking
:19:17. > :19:23.at the rails that are down on the ground there. What has happened? He
:19:23. > :19:27.didn't fall off. He lost the stirrup. The saddle has slipped. It
:19:27. > :19:37.has gone down one side. All the weight went on one side and the
:19:37. > :19:43.saddle has slipped. I can see that now. This is interesting. Tom,
:19:43. > :19:48.stable jockey to Sir Henry Cecil, he is riding this filly instead.
:19:48. > :19:52.you know something I learnt when I was with him, he uses the hoods and
:19:52. > :19:55.he gets them from Czechoslovakia and he uses the hoods a long from
:19:55. > :19:59.his fillies and he says they make all the difference in the world.
:19:59. > :20:05.Does he stuff their ears? necessarily. He said the covering
:20:05. > :20:08.on the ears will do that for them, but he says it settles down tricky
:20:08. > :20:13.fillies, but he uses them at home. That's interesting, because the
:20:13. > :20:19.first time I really saw this was in Japan. The Japanese, they race a
:20:19. > :20:22.lot of their horses in hoods. Obviously, for - they get 150,000
:20:22. > :20:32.people going to their big meetings so there's a lot of noise, so
:20:32. > :20:32.
:20:32. > :20:36.possibly that is the reason. Good idea. We spoke to Sheikh Fahad
:20:37. > :20:43.earlier, but here are the colours of his company, carried by Dever
:20:43. > :20:50.Dream. Eddie Ahern is a good jockey here at Royal Ascot. Or anywhere,
:20:50. > :20:55.actually. Funny guy. He is very funny. He's one of those jockeys
:20:55. > :21:02.that everybody loves, because he's a funny guy and he's so mild and
:21:02. > :21:09.meek and - but when he gets on top of a horse he becomes a monster,
:21:09. > :21:13.because he's a fantastic jockey and he is always in tune with the horse.
:21:13. > :21:23.He's a real horseman. Of course, he wins that cross-country race every
:21:23. > :21:25.
:21:25. > :21:28.now and again and so he's good. back on board of Chachamaidee. For
:21:28. > :21:33.William Haggas, he's hoping with the horse that Eddie Ahern rides,
:21:33. > :21:38.Dever Dream, well he's had to pull out Furry and Green Destiny who was
:21:38. > :21:48.favourite, also doesn't run. This filly could - I would think each-
:21:48. > :22:00.
:22:00. > :22:10.favourite. That's where the money is. But there's a bet from
:22:10. > :22:15.
:22:15. > :22:22.Ladbrokes, 15,000 at 16-1 for Anna Salai. Big money. Runners to the
:22:22. > :22:26.post. What, Kevin, is Eddie doing there? Is he playing noughts and
:22:26. > :22:32.crosses? It looks that way. I think he's playing up to her a little. I
:22:32. > :22:38.haven't a clue what he's doing. know the first job when he gets
:22:38. > :22:43.back, don't you? Definitely. has a good chance. Eye-catching run
:22:43. > :22:48.from her last time at Lingfield about a month ago. She hasn't, as
:22:48. > :22:53.yet, won over this trip of a mile, but comes from a good stable. She
:22:53. > :23:00.is an improving filly. That's right. Doesn't get the clearest of the
:23:00. > :23:04.runs. She will be better for that. He hasn't won at a mile. I'm A
:23:04. > :23:08.Dreamer has won three of the four races at this trip and came back
:23:08. > :23:13.over nine furlongs on her debut. She is another one that is very
:23:13. > :23:17.progressive. She is a lovely looking filly. Plenty of scope. I
:23:17. > :23:25.love the way she won at Newmarket. She dominated throughout. Len
:23:25. > :23:30.thened away. Definite class about her. We'll look at Sajjhaa. We saw
:23:30. > :23:34.her going down earlier on. Went ahid with Frankie Dettori. She has
:23:34. > :23:43.-- ahead with Frankie Dettori. She has already had a run where she was
:23:43. > :23:47.runner up to Midday. Sajjhaa, one thing I did notice, she is very big.
:23:47. > :23:51.She is a huge filly and Frankie was keen to get her out there on the
:23:52. > :23:55.track and get her going. Once you saw her cantering down she was fine.
:23:55. > :24:00.She was edgy and anticipating the race, but she is in the stalls
:24:00. > :24:05.great and obviously the horse they'll all got to beat. She has
:24:05. > :24:10.already gone in. Six of the nine jockeys in the race said the ground
:24:10. > :24:13.is absolutely perfect. There is no excuse for the horses or any of the
:24:13. > :24:23.horses not performing on the conditions. There are about three
:24:23. > :24:26.to load. Over to Jim. Loading up here. There's Tom Queally. This is
:24:26. > :24:34.a less stressful task than yesterday, when he was in the
:24:34. > :24:40.stalls on Frankel. Chachamaidee, which he rides for Sir Henry Cecil
:24:40. > :24:46.and Johnny mur far has picked up the ride -- Murtagh has picked up
:24:46. > :24:50.the ride on Jacqueline Quest. Ready. Racing. Just eased out the back,
:24:50. > :24:54.I'm A Dreamer on the near side. One of the first away is Sajjhaa. Also
:24:54. > :24:58.up there in the early stages is Field Day and they are breaking
:24:58. > :25:02.away on the nearside. Sam man Dar is coming over in company with Anna
:25:02. > :25:07.Salai. They are very handy and just behind them is Dever Dream. That is
:25:07. > :25:10.the trio on this side. The far side, you can see coming up the centre,
:25:10. > :25:16.Frankie Dettori on Sajjhaa. Just showing the way from Seta and
:25:16. > :25:22.sitting in behind them is Field Day. Chachamaidee is in that group too
:25:22. > :25:25.and frontly. -- Fontley. Then I'm A Dreamer on the far side. Lolly For
:25:25. > :25:34.Dolly is just behind them and First City held up. They start to merge
:25:34. > :25:39.the two, as they come up now to halfway. It's Shamandar and Sajjhaa.
:25:39. > :25:48.They are stride for stride. Then Dever Dream and followed Byfield
:25:48. > :25:53.day. Chachamaidee is next, followed then by Anna Salai. Further back is
:25:53. > :25:58.Lolly For Dolly and then First City. They race up now with two furlongs
:25:58. > :26:04.to travel. Frankie strikes for home on Sajjhaa. Tackled by Chachamaidee
:26:04. > :26:08.on the far side. Rainks up very easily. Takes a narrow -- ranges up
:26:08. > :26:17.very easily. Takes a narrow lead now. He starts to drift now.
:26:17. > :26:23.Chachamaidee, drifting left. Lolly For Dolly now for Ireland. Grabbing
:26:23. > :26:28.the lead. It's all over. Lolly For Dolly wins the race. Chachamaidee
:26:28. > :26:31.is second. First City third. A gap then to Sajjhaa, followed by I'm A
:26:31. > :26:37.Dreamer and Field Day behind them and further back in the field is
:26:37. > :26:41.Music Show. Fontley was there. Seta followed by Dever Dream and then
:26:41. > :26:46.out of the back is Anna Salai and Shamandar last. Lolly For Dolly is
:26:46. > :26:54.the winner. Ridden by Wayne Lordan at 11-1. Flown home up the stands
:26:54. > :27:00.rail and has got up to win well. Fozzy Stack there. Trained by the
:27:00. > :27:04.Stacks. Tommy there. Let's see them hit the line. Lolly For Dolly, what
:27:05. > :27:09.a faily. Got up to win from Chachamaidee, who went there so
:27:09. > :27:15.easily. Just didn't have that kick in the finish. Third was First City.
:27:15. > :27:25.Fourth then Sajjhaa. In fifth I'm A Dreamer, sixth Field Day, a gap
:27:25. > :27:25.
:27:25. > :27:28.then to Music Show seventh, eighth Seta, ninth Fontley and tenth Dever
:27:28. > :27:34.Dream and Anna Salai and Jacqueline Quest, I'm looking down the track,
:27:34. > :27:39.she is coming past the line. She has obviously taken no part. It
:27:39. > :27:44.will be interesting to see what has happened there. We'll get the full
:27:44. > :27:49.report on her. Johnny Murtagh on board. She has come in. A good
:27:49. > :27:55.minute behind the others. We'll have a report, but there's the
:27:55. > :28:01.winner, that's Lolly For Dolly. Wayne Lordan and trained by Tommy
:28:01. > :28:05.Stack in the colours of David Keegan. Huge celebrations as the
:28:06. > :28:10.owners of this filly celebrated along with Fozzy Stack, Tommy's son,
:28:10. > :28:14.who helps out with the training, but David Keegan was leading that
:28:14. > :28:18.charge and cheering home the 11-1 winner and Lolly For Dolly, who
:28:18. > :28:24.hasn't finished out of the first two all season comes here to Royal
:28:24. > :28:27.as col and takes the race. -- Ascot and takes the race. It sounds as if
:28:27. > :28:31.the stalls with Jacqueline Quest, either there was a malfunction. No,
:28:31. > :28:36.she stood there. She planted herself. We'll show you that in a
:28:36. > :28:41.second, but look at Lolly For Dolly. Stretching out and coming past the
:28:41. > :28:44.packed grandstand here. Wayne saying, "go on, girl." The blinkers
:28:44. > :28:50.were not a negative. They helped her to the line over the mile on
:28:50. > :29:00.the straight course. If you want an illustration of what a thrill it is
:29:00. > :29:02.
:29:02. > :29:09.to have a winner here, just watch this. Look at them. Fabulous scenes.
:29:09. > :29:17.Well done to all of them associated with Lolly For Dolly. Let's look at
:29:17. > :29:24.see what happened to Jacqueline Quest. Out of stall eleven. She is
:29:24. > :29:30.has done a memory. She has. The jockey's arms were wagging. Still
:29:30. > :29:35.in there. Still in there. Oh, dear. You see, you cannot make them do it
:29:35. > :29:41.if they don't want to do it. Watch this again. There you go. Blinkers.
:29:41. > :29:45.She has had them on. This is the fifth time there she is getting
:29:45. > :29:48.scrubbed along and possibly a bit lazy this filly, because they wept
:29:48. > :29:53.a nice pace there and they quickened up well and she possibly
:29:53. > :29:56.just got caught for a bit of toe, but she is picking them off slowly
:29:56. > :30:05.and picking up now. Really stretching and now in between the
:30:05. > :30:09.horses. A smack and of course Wayne Lordan has her in Top Gear and
:30:09. > :30:14.Frankie to get by and he has won this now. He has the help of the
:30:14. > :30:18.rail. Sticking to the right hand. All I have to do now is keep her
:30:18. > :30:28.going and that's exactly what he has done. Henry Cecil's filly has
:30:28. > :30:46.
:30:46. > :30:52.run very well in second. She was an lolly's owner's wife is the
:30:52. > :30:59.daughter of the ex-Prime Minister of Ireland, Bertie Ahern. I know
:30:59. > :31:02.you guys thought a lot of this filly. The blinkers are the huge
:31:02. > :31:07.operation. I thought last year she didn't
:31:07. > :31:10.really kill herself and we thought to apply the blinkers.
:31:10. > :31:13.Some celebrations. Tell us about when you decided this
:31:13. > :31:16.would be the plan for her? It was always in the back of our mind to
:31:16. > :31:22.come here. David loves coming here. It was always in the back of our
:31:22. > :31:26.mind to come here. She is tough and takes a lot of work and she is the
:31:26. > :31:30.constitution of an ox. We might give her a holiday and give her a
:31:30. > :31:35.prep somewhere. Take us through your thoughts on
:31:35. > :31:41.this race. They seemed to go a good gallop and that suited her.
:31:41. > :31:45.She likes passing horses. In the Curragh, she took it up about two
:31:45. > :31:48.down. She likes passing horses. She is tough and likes a battle.
:31:48. > :31:58.feeling of a Royal winner? Brilliant.
:31:58. > :32:00.
:32:00. > :32:04.Thank you. So the winner is Lolly For Dolly.
:32:04. > :32:09.Gareth, you are up for a big dividend. The bookies along here,
:32:09. > :32:13.John, you see them putting their hats up. They were cheering. They
:32:13. > :32:17.weren't cheering yesterday, but they are cheering today!
:32:17. > :32:22.Congratulations. The way the race unfolded, it seemed to be perfect
:32:22. > :32:26.for you? Yeah, we went a nice gallop. I was looking for a bit of
:32:26. > :32:30.room. She picked up and ran to the line well and she stayed well. It
:32:30. > :32:33.was nice to have the first Royal Ascot win. I'm very happy.
:32:33. > :32:40.A lot of people watching are going, "The ease of the victory was a
:32:40. > :32:44.surprising thing about it.". Yeah. I thought the rain might come
:32:44. > :32:48.sooner. I was worried the ground might be quick. She is a tough
:32:48. > :32:52.filly. Her heart is in the right place. She has done well from last
:32:52. > :32:57.year to this year. The first Royal Ascot winner, what
:32:57. > :32:59.does that feel like? It feels great. I'm delighted I got a chance to
:32:59. > :33:07.have a winner here. Well done.
:33:07. > :33:17.Thank you very much. The first Royal Ascot winner for
:33:17. > :33:33.
