:01:02. > :01:12.that there's a strong breeze... first horse to win successive Gold

:01:12. > :01:12.

:01:12. > :04:15.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 182 seconds

:04:15. > :04:21.We are blessed. This is a great spot to watch the

:04:21. > :04:25.Royal procession as it comes through. You can see How Excited

:04:25. > :04:29.they are. You can tell the ladies are here today, can't you? All in

:04:29. > :04:34.their hats. All waving at the camera and all going to have a

:04:34. > :04:37.fantastic day here at Ascot. Royal Ascot on Gold Cup Day.

:04:37. > :04:40.You just get the feeling that everyone is in a fabulous mood and

:04:40. > :04:43.they will be hoping to make money as well. What would you be

:04:43. > :04:46.suggesting to them, Willie? Everything is going to change a bit

:04:46. > :04:51.because we want to see after the first race where the best draw is.

:04:51. > :04:56.How the the going is because as I said, a lot of rain has fallen on

:04:56. > :05:01.the track, but I would to stick with the class horse in the Gold

:05:01. > :05:05.Cup, I have changed my mind since this morning and I'm going to go

:05:05. > :05:09.with Fame and Glory because he is a class horse. He is running further

:05:10. > :05:17.than he has done before, but I am told he will like the soft ground

:05:17. > :05:20.which I doubted it. They think he could be the new

:05:21. > :05:25.Yeates. You have got to get your first win on the board for the Gold

:05:25. > :05:32.Cup. After we went off air, we heard the news that Frankie Dettori

:05:32. > :05:37.picked up a nine day suspension for excessive use of the whip. It was a

:05:37. > :05:43.thrilling finish and at the time it didn't strike me. No. It was a

:05:43. > :05:47.fantastic race to watch. It was two jockeys trying hard to win this

:05:47. > :05:51.race. We are talking here about tens of millions of pounds whether

:05:51. > :05:55.you get beat or not. I don't think the jockeys were thinking about the

:05:55. > :06:00.whip at that time, but may I say because he received a suspension of

:06:00. > :06:04.nine days, everybody must think he went over board, but if he had gone

:06:04. > :06:07.over board, I am thinking about the horse. The horse wouldn't have won.

:06:08. > :06:12.It wouldn't have been trying as hard as he did. He was getting

:06:12. > :06:17.encouragement from the whip and he kept trying. So there is an

:06:17. > :06:21.argument about too much whip, yes. We don't want that, but if the

:06:21. > :06:28.horse was in trouble, he wouldn't have done what he did.

:06:28. > :06:32.He kept responding. Frankie struck the horse 24 24 times and 13 is the

:06:32. > :06:35.recommended guideline. We hope for less controversy, but just as much

:06:35. > :06:45.excitement today. A great day of racing coming up and the highlight

:06:45. > :06:54.

:06:54. > :06:58.those things. He is favourite for the Gold Cup.

:06:58. > :07:06.But can Duncan make a name for himself today? He is the big danger.

:07:06. > :07:10.He likes it here and could go well. Our cameras have been to the yard

:07:11. > :07:14.of David O'Meara. For David and the jockey, this is the biggest day of

:07:14. > :07:23.their lives. Frankie Dettori whipped up a storm

:07:23. > :07:32.yesterday! He has five rides today.

:07:32. > :07:42.It is It is Ascot's 300th birthday this year. Gold Cup Day is Ladies'

:07:42. > :07:46.

:07:46. > :07:50.Day, the brightest and the fashions for Ladies' Day. Yesterday, the

:07:50. > :07:54.fashion did blossom, but the fillies are going to be at full

:07:54. > :07:58.pelt. You are right. There is nowhere in the world I want to be

:07:58. > :08:02.than here. 300 years of Royal Ascot. It is a celebration. The best horse

:08:02. > :08:06.race in the world, but more importantly, the best hats in the

:08:06. > :08:09.world! Yes, we saw some of them coming in when the weather was

:08:09. > :08:13.different to these glorious conditions. Yes, it was pouring

:08:13. > :08:23.with rain, but there were a few nice brollies and a lovely smile.

:08:23. > :08:24.

:08:24. > :08:31.The girls looked fabulous and it is the best of British bravado. This

:08:31. > :08:36.beautiful exotic number. We adored this hat. We are going to

:08:36. > :08:42.get a header on this. It is wonderful. This is space odyssey.

:08:42. > :08:47.It is sequins and dazzling for today. It is ap iat. -- appropriate.

:08:47. > :08:51.What could we say? Birds of paradise.

:08:51. > :08:55.We loved this. A kiss and lovely smile there. We like that.

:08:55. > :08:59.A smile really does bring out the day. Lots of fashion to look at and

:08:59. > :09:05.we have a packed day here. I think I might be the luckiest girl at

:09:05. > :09:10.Royal Ascot, but I'm wearing not one Stephen Jones, but a Philip

:09:10. > :09:15.Treacy and a Stephen Jones later. Anthony Price will be on the show

:09:15. > :09:20.later and we will attempt to make a hat live. Well, we are ghot we are

:09:20. > :09:24.not going to attempt it, but Catherine Elizabeth has her stuff

:09:24. > :09:33.here. Are you confident you can pull it off? I am going to show

:09:33. > :09:38.everybody. it did earlier today. 11mm of rain

:09:38. > :09:43.this morning changed the going from good yesterday to God-to-soft, soft

:09:43. > :09:46.in places. The big race today, Mick, is the Gold Cup, generally the

:09:46. > :09:48.perception is that the round course is always a little softer than the

:09:48. > :09:53.is always a little softer than the straight course. What do you think?

:09:53. > :09:57.It will be. For me, this ground will be stamina-sapping. We saw a

:09:57. > :10:00.few horses finishing stretched out yesterday and I think you will see

:10:00. > :10:03.a bit of the same this afternoon. You can get your heel into it and

:10:03. > :10:07.the two-year-old also knock the top off. We'll get a good guide as to

:10:07. > :10:11.what it's like after the first race. Often people talk about when the

:10:11. > :10:15.horse gets the right conditions, they're able to show their best and

:10:15. > :10:20.it's difficult sometimes when they say why can't they show their best

:10:20. > :10:24.on any ground but you can explain it more? Some horses act better on

:10:24. > :10:30.different surfaces, a bit like Nadal on clay, he likes that

:10:30. > :10:33.surface. It's the way they're built as well and some are bred to be

:10:33. > :10:38.fast on these surfaces. Which do you think will be best on the

:10:38. > :10:41.surface in the Gold Cup today? hoping it's going to be Fame And

:10:41. > :10:47.Glory for Aidan O'Brien. They hope he'll be the next Yeats. I hope

:10:47. > :10:51.that's the case. I agree with Mick! Another fascinating day to look

:10:51. > :10:57.forward to. Fair to say, Gary, the bookmakers equalised yesterday.

:10:57. > :11:01.Took the lead, they didn't equalise. It was 4-0 the first day, but

:11:01. > :11:04.yesterday 6-0 to the bookie chaps. What's being backed? Good horses

:11:04. > :11:09.being backed. Some big money as well. With the rain coming down, I

:11:09. > :11:19.think a few hunters have left it until late and will play nearer the

:11:19. > :11:36.

:11:36. > :11:39.The other big bet today, tell the nation? The Queen's hat, I've been

:11:39. > :11:45.trying for my life to get the result, but look at this. The

:11:45. > :11:49.Queen's hat today, yellow, Betfred 6-4 into even money. If you are

:11:49. > :11:55.betting on the Queen's hat, you want to be on yellow. I think you

:11:55. > :12:04.look pretty in pink. I think it could be pink today.

:12:04. > :12:07.It's ladies' day, Gold Cup day. I'm keen on Brigantin to win today. Got

:12:07. > :12:12.soft track form and is in good form at the moment. We'll talk about

:12:12. > :12:19.that later with Mick Fitzgerald. Let's check what is lined up

:12:19. > :12:23.racing-wise on day three, Gold Cup day. We start off with the Norfolk

:12:23. > :12:30.Stakes, this is a charge up the straight for the two-year-olds,

:12:30. > :12:35.five furlongs. A lot of non-runners here. We'll check those later. The

:12:35. > :12:40.Ribblesdale Stakes, the Ascot Oaks, a mile and a half. A few who were

:12:40. > :12:49.at Epsom will be stepping out here. 3.45, the Gold Cup, two-and-a-half

:12:49. > :12:53.miles, the ultimate stamina test. 4.25, the Britannia Stakes, the

:12:53. > :12:59.handicap for the three-year-olds up the straight. Will it be the stand

:12:59. > :13:04.side again this afternoon? At 5 oclorbgs it's the Tercentenary

:13:04. > :13:08.Stakes, that's renamed this year, a mile and a quarter and a very

:13:08. > :13:13.competitive affair. That's on BBC 2. Then the red button, press that you

:13:13. > :13:18.want to see the King George V Stakes. This is over a mile and a

:13:18. > :13:28.half and it promises to be a really competitive affair as well.

:13:28. > :13:50.

:13:50. > :13:53.These are the non-runners because race. The last yesterday was the

:13:53. > :13:58.sand ringham handicap and the Queen owned the joint favourite. The

:13:58. > :14:01.horse was called Humdrum and she came out with her umbrella into the

:14:01. > :14:04.paddock. It started drizzling last night. Richard Hughes took the

:14:04. > :14:09.mount. Watch out for Rhythm of Light.

:14:10. > :14:19.COMMENTATOR: As they head to the closing stages, Humdrum coming

:14:19. > :14:23.through. Also Dubai Queen in yellow. Winter's Night, Rhythm of Light.

:14:23. > :14:33.Dubai Queen and Kieren Fallon in front. Over the far side, Richard

:14:33. > :14:36.

:14:36. > :14:44.King's coat -- Kingscote. Heading towards the line, Rhythm of Light,

:14:44. > :14:48.Richard Kingscote a clear winner. We ran twice last year, she ran

:14:49. > :14:53.terrible. She's come out this year after a good break and she's done

:14:53. > :14:59.mog but improve. You've got a superstar in Richard Kingscote?

:14:59. > :15:05.Brilliant, isn't he? No, he is, I mean, you know, he's brilliant.

:15:05. > :15:09.Richard? Your first Royal Ascot winner. Tom's taking a moment to

:15:09. > :15:12.settle it, how does it feel for you? Brilliant. We were pretty

:15:13. > :15:16.confident. We've been confident for a few weeks that we'd have a good

:15:16. > :15:21.week here and a good start there, you know.

:15:21. > :15:24.First ever Royal Ascot winner there for Tom Dascombe. Also for Richard

:15:24. > :15:29.Kingscote and huge celebrations there. They have Pyman's Theory in

:15:29. > :15:33.the first today. Peter Hunt, the BBC's Royal Correspondent joins me

:15:33. > :15:38.to take us through the Royal procession. Yes. You will have been

:15:38. > :15:43.here before? I have, Fleetingly. My worry is the fashion because this

:15:43. > :15:51.is a key day for fashion and my 12- year-old made me change my trousers

:15:51. > :15:56.going to a parents' evening, so I hope I've not let her down today!

:15:56. > :16:01.Pink has collected for the bets on the Queen's hat colour.

:16:01. > :16:05.Confirmation that the Queen's hat is pink, so is the outfit. The

:16:05. > :16:09.procession koms through led by the Windsor greys -- comes through. Her

:16:09. > :16:13.Majesty the Queen in first carriage and the Duke of Edinburgh.

:16:13. > :16:16.Alongside them, the Duke of York and Earl of Romney. Yes, the Queen,

:16:16. > :16:20.a great week for her and she's still on a high I think from a

:16:20. > :16:25.significant Royal visit she did to Ireland earlier this year. Prince

:16:25. > :16:29.Philip, a man who says he wants to quit before he goes past his sell-

:16:29. > :16:35.by-date but his aides say they can't keep up with him. The Duke of

:16:35. > :16:40.York there, the second time he's been in a carriage with his parents.

:16:40. > :16:44.We think of him as being involved in golf. The Earl of Romney, the

:16:44. > :16:49.eighth holder of the title, he was once the high Sheriff of Norfolk.

:16:49. > :16:55.Details on the Queen's outfit in a moment but the second carriage, we

:16:55. > :16:58.find the Princess Royal, Her Royal Highness has been here throughout

:16:58. > :17:05.the week. Princess Beatrice, daughter of the Duke of York beside

:17:05. > :17:09.her. Facing them, we have Anthony Duckworth-Chad and his wife.

:17:09. > :17:18.The Princess has inherited her parents' love of equine, was in the

:17:18. > :17:22.Olympics in 1976 and is hoping that Zara, her dairgt, will emulate that.

:17:22. > :17:28.-- daughter. Princess Beatrice offered to sell her Royal Wedding

:17:28. > :17:32.hat for charity. She is coming to the end of her career as a student.

:17:32. > :17:38.It will be interesting to see what she does next, whether she's a

:17:38. > :17:47.full-time Royal. Anthony Duckworth- Chad, a cousin of Diana Prince of

:17:47. > :17:51.Wales and a great friend of Prince Charles. In the thirz carriage, we

:17:51. > :17:57.have the honourable Harry Herbert. -- in this third carriage. That's

:17:57. > :18:03.Harry closest to us. Alongside them, Anthony Andrews and his wife,

:18:03. > :18:11.Georgina, in that navy blue or black-and-white. Harry Herbert is a

:18:11. > :18:16.son of the late Caernarfon Porchy. He said when you talk to the Queen,

:18:16. > :18:23.it was like you were talking to a trainer. Anthony Andrews doesn't

:18:23. > :18:29.need any introduction, does he, the actor. He was most recently in the

:18:29. > :18:34.Queen's Speech, he played the Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin. Georgina

:18:34. > :18:39.is very knowledgeable about horses. There will have been much racing

:18:39. > :18:42.chat over lunch today. This will be the carriage that gets most

:18:42. > :18:46.attention, I suspect from the photographers. In the fourth

:18:46. > :18:51.carriage, we have Mr and Mrs Michael Middleton, the parents of

:18:51. > :18:58.Katherine, the new Duchess of Cambridge, Carol Middleton closest

:18:58. > :19:02.to us in a pale salmon colour. Along with them, Jim and Fitry hay.

:19:02. > :19:08.Part owners of the favourite in the gold-cum-, Fame And Glory. The

:19:08. > :19:11.presence of Michael and Carol will have set twit o sphere alight. It's

:19:11. > :19:15.a striking decision by the Queen, it was her decision to have them

:19:15. > :19:18.here so early on. The photographers will have that on the front-pages

:19:18. > :19:22.of many papers tomorrow, that here we have the parents of a future

:19:22. > :19:26.Queen who's had lunch for a second time with the present Queen and

:19:26. > :19:31.Duke of Edinburgh, with Jim hay and his wife. He gained his interest in

:19:31. > :19:37.racing when he watched sport on TV with his grandmother.

:19:37. > :19:47.Always a very important thing to do, watch sport on TV. Carol Middleton

:19:47. > :19:51.is the owner of a horse. Her horse was there on Derby day, as was

:19:51. > :19:59.Catherine, her daughter. We were hoping we might see him on Saturday

:19:59. > :20:05.in the Wokingham exbut declared a non- runner -- but declared a non-

:20:05. > :20:09.runner. The US Open starts today. They start at 7am over there,

:20:09. > :20:12.midday here, you will get full coverage of that on Five Live and

:20:12. > :20:16.the BBC website, that's the golf. It's racing that most interests the

:20:16. > :20:20.Queen and horses in general. Very much so. I can tell you about her

:20:20. > :20:25.outfit. She's in a pink and green silk print dress, it's a pink raw

:20:25. > :20:33.silk coat and the dress and the coat are made by Stuart Parvin, a

:20:33. > :20:37.favourite designer of hers. The hat was made by Rachel Trevor-Morgan. I

:20:37. > :20:40.think you know about her? Yes, I do, she made my hat as well. You can

:20:40. > :20:45.see the Royal procession trying to ensure that they are not using the

:20:45. > :20:47.ground that the runners will want to use later because we expect the

:20:48. > :20:51.horses coming around the course will be much closer to the rail

:20:51. > :20:54.than that. On the straight course, we suspect they'll split into two

:20:54. > :20:58.groups and be either on the far right of the picture or the far

:20:58. > :21:02.left, but not necessarily down the middle, which is where the Royal

:21:02. > :21:05.procession is coming. Such a relief that it's not raining right now

:21:05. > :21:09.because it does rather ruin the spectacle. Yes, I had the sense

:21:09. > :21:19.before it happened that it would have to be tipping down for any

:21:19. > :21:21.

:21:21. > :21:25.cover other than an umbrella to be there. Yes, as with the Royal

:21:25. > :21:29.Wedding, it would have to be a downpour for the carriage covers to

:21:29. > :21:32.be on. I don't think we can overstate, can we, the importance

:21:32. > :21:35.of this for the Queen, the whole issue of her love of horses and

:21:35. > :21:39.everything to do with horses, a sort of fashion that she acquired

:21:39. > :21:43.from a very, very early age when she was given a Shetland pony,

:21:43. > :21:46.Peggy, by her grandfather, at the age of four.

:21:46. > :21:51.It's a passion that's developed over the years. When she first came

:21:51. > :21:55.into contact with a thoroughbred, she was so taken with the velvety

:21:55. > :21:59.nature of a thoroughbred's nose, just the very soft bit, the side of

:21:59. > :22:06.the nose that she'd never touched anything so fine. I'm afraid the

:22:06. > :22:11.rain's just started again. The wind is picking up as well. The

:22:11. > :22:16.umbrellas there rapidly rising. The Royal party have the view there's

:22:16. > :22:26.no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. The national anthem

:22:26. > :23:03.

:23:03. > :23:08.A HUGE CHEER GOES UP AROUND THIS HUGE CROWD On Gold Cup day.

:23:08. > :23:12.And we are now used to obviously seeing the monarchy and the Royal

:23:12. > :23:17.Family. But in days gone by, Peter, you would have needed a procession

:23:17. > :23:23.because there were no televisions and the public wanted to feel close

:23:23. > :23:29.to them. We have become very blase. She's the 12th Monarch to lend pat

:23:29. > :23:34.Ronage to this annual highlight of flat racing itself. In 1825 King

:23:34. > :23:39.George IIII thought this was a way for people to see him and his

:23:39. > :23:43.family. It's evolved since then and in 1920 we had what we have now,

:23:43. > :23:46.which is this every day procession. The Queen's had to miss these on

:23:47. > :23:49.occasions by going abroad on foreign tours and when there was a

:23:49. > :23:53.general election inconveniently arranged, probably against her

:23:53. > :23:58.better judgment, in terms of missing a day like this. Since 1945,

:23:58. > :24:01.she's not missed an occasion, even during the strikes of 1955, she

:24:01. > :24:05.came privately, even though this event itself had been cancelled.

:24:05. > :24:09.Since Royal Ascot got extended to the Saturday as well, we always

:24:09. > :24:13.used to have the racing on a Saturday and there was no Royal

:24:14. > :24:17.procession, but it's been such a success since it was extended and

:24:17. > :24:21.the Golden Jubilee became the big race on the Saturday and now it's

:24:21. > :24:26.the most popular day of the weak. It always used to be today when you

:24:26. > :24:32.got the most popular crowds, but today it's the Saturday.

:24:32. > :24:35.The crowd would like to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge but

:24:35. > :24:39.I'm informed there's little likelihood of them coming this year,

:24:39. > :24:43.even though the Duchess's parents are here at the moment. He's doing

:24:43. > :24:50.his work as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot and she's gearing up

:24:50. > :24:53.for a very significant Royal tour by the couple to Canada and

:24:53. > :24:57.California. Very exciting that Prince William and the Duchess of

:24:57. > :25:00.Cambridge enjoyed their day at the Derby and if she comes later in the

:25:00. > :25:05.week, there will be a huge reception for her. Also the

:25:05. > :25:08.involvement of the Middletons, of Mike and Carol that, they have an

:25:08. > :25:12.interest, this is more than just a superficial enthusiasm, you know,

:25:12. > :25:17.they have a horse in training and it's lovely for them to be getting

:25:17. > :25:21.the reaction that they'll have hire from the crowd. -- here from the

:25:21. > :25:26.crowd. I think it will surprise them. Helpful for them to have an

:25:26. > :25:36.interest, given that it's a subject that they can talk about with the

:25:36. > :25:38.

:25:38. > :25:40.Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. They are both living in this county,

:25:40. > :25:50.in Berkshire. Also interesting the Duke of York

:25:50. > :26:00.has been here for a couple of days and Princess Beatrice and Eugenie

:26:00. > :26:01.

:26:01. > :26:04.enjoy it as a social occasion. funny, Eugenie says to people, you

:26:04. > :26:09.can use your knees, which is a way of putting people at ease. Very

:26:09. > :26:12.interesting when we sea what Princess Beatrice does, maybe this

:26:12. > :26:16.is the start of this family slowing down slowly and not putting her out

:26:16. > :26:20.to do full-time work, but getting some sort of job. We'll have an

:26:20. > :26:25.answer to that in the weeks and months ahead.

:26:25. > :26:29.And the Royal party will come to a halt right in front of the weighing

:26:29. > :26:37.room here on the edge of the paddock and the winners' enclosure

:26:37. > :26:40.as the rain increases in intensity. They'll be back down in the bad

:26:40. > :26:43.dock most definitely before the Gold Cup and the Queen herself will

:26:43. > :26:48.do the presentation for the Gold Cup.

:26:48. > :26:55.Carol Middleton there was waving to the crowd, getting into the spirit

:26:55. > :27:00.of the occasion. Lots of smiles in the Royal party.

:27:00. > :27:06.They know they've gotten away with it, they'll think, thank goodness

:27:06. > :27:15.it didn't rain hard. It was a long way to walk. Just enjoy some of the

:27:15. > :27:19.images again here. It's why the race goers get here so early, make

:27:19. > :27:23.sure they have a good position because they enjoy this as much as

:27:23. > :27:27.they enjoy any of the races themselves. Very striking looking

:27:27. > :27:32.at the pictures and remembering this is a man who is 90 and a woman

:27:32. > :27:37.who is 85. People suggest to me that she is still on a bit of a

:27:37. > :27:43.high after that historic visit to the Republic of Ireland 100 years

:27:43. > :27:45.since anyone went there from the British monarchy and it was picture

:27:45. > :27:50.perfect. From the popularity of the Royal

:27:50. > :27:55.Wedding as well, from those who watched on TV and they've continued

:27:55. > :27:59.to show their increased love for all things Royal? She said as she

:27:59. > :28:05.was going back "it was marvellous". Peter, lovely to have you here.

:28:05. > :28:13.Thank you very much. This is Katherine Elizabeth, a

:28:13. > :28:18.young, upcoming miliner in the UK. She's going to attempt to make a

:28:18. > :28:24.hot for us live on air. No mane feat? No, but it's lovely to be

:28:24. > :28:28.with a fellow miliner. What are we going to do? If you are making a

:28:29. > :28:32.hat, you start with this, then we've cut this shape out, wired it

:28:32. > :28:35.and we'll edge it. We'll get the feathers, cut them, strip them,

:28:35. > :28:40.move them around and put them in front of the hat there, so we've

:28:40. > :28:44.got all of this, put it on to the hat here, this side and create. All

:28:44. > :28:48.bits and pieces at the moment, looks a bit of a mess, it will be

:28:48. > :28:55.an amazing hat at the end of the day. This is the lovely dyed

:28:55. > :29:00.Chinese fezant feathers. These are beautiful. -- pheasant. You can

:29:00. > :29:05.strip and curl this so it stays in that position. This is ostrich

:29:05. > :29:09.feather. You get a lovely quill like this which is all curled.

:29:09. > :29:13.of luck. We'll come back to see how you get on during the day. Here we

:29:13. > :29:19.go with the hat! Looking ahead o the first race of

:29:19. > :29:24.the afternoon, the Norfolk Stakes. Bapak Chinta is your horse. He's a

:29:24. > :29:29.good horse by the looks of it? think he is. He's only ran once and

:29:29. > :29:33.he couldn't have been any more impressive, so yes. He was favoured

:29:33. > :29:39.on his debut which tends to suggest he's shown ability at home

:29:39. > :29:42.beforehand? Yes, ehe showed us a lot and has continued to do so. It

:29:42. > :29:48.was always the plan to come here, but we are now just a bit concerned

:29:48. > :29:52.with the rain. I was going to ask, obviously it's his second ride but

:29:52. > :29:56.biggest task to date. Presumably you didn't want the rain?

:29:56. > :29:59.really. He's American-bred, doesn't move like a horse that you would

:29:59. > :30:04.think would go on soft ground. Only had one run so we are still

:30:04. > :30:08.learning about him. Later on in the day, at the end of the day, you

:30:08. > :30:13.have another horse in the King George V, you haven't ridden him

:30:13. > :30:17.this season and he has a good chance. Stall 20 is not a good

:30:17. > :30:21.draw? It would have been last year. He's a nice, by horse, just come

:30:21. > :30:26.into himself. Thst the first time ever for the trip as well, but it

:30:26. > :30:33.looks like he'll stay. It's an unknown trip and draw as well.

:30:33. > :30:35.luck on the first one, hope the ground's not too soft. One of the

:30:35. > :30:45.fascinating encounters is who will be top jockey. What is happening

:30:45. > :30:52.

:30:52. > :30:57.Ryan Moore this morning. Richard Hughes is 6-5. Ryan Moore is still

:30:57. > :31:01.favourite. It is changing. Willie, as a jockey, you would want to have

:31:01. > :31:05.the winners on the board, wouldn't you? Especially at Royal Ascot. I

:31:05. > :31:08.have won this contest in the past at Royal Ascot and it goes down to

:31:08. > :31:12.the seconds, but if you get four winners or five you think you have

:31:13. > :31:15.got it in the bag especially five and Richard has got a good ride in

:31:15. > :31:19.the first race today. He certainly has.

:31:19. > :31:24.We need to be giving winners. We had a tip. How did yours run

:31:24. > :31:28.yesterday? Second in the first race. I only got beat by half a length. I

:31:28. > :31:33.thought he was going to win. I have still got the arm band on as well!

:31:33. > :31:37.What did you pick yesterday? Frankie Dettori and you know what

:31:37. > :31:41.happens. I go for Frankie and he goes and wins the next race! I

:31:41. > :31:45.didn't have him! You should have thought of Clare

:31:45. > :31:50.because she fancied. Bad draw. Bad draw.

:31:50. > :31:54.What have you picked today? I am going for a horse in the Gold Cup.

:31:54. > :32:04.It stays longer than the insurance man when he comes round the house

:32:04. > :32:06.

:32:06. > :32:13.trying to sell a policy! I'm going for Kasbah Bliss. I think he has a

:32:13. > :32:18.massive chance, Will. I'm going to go for a Michael Owen

:32:18. > :32:25.trained horse, they had the last winner yesterday and I hope they do.

:32:25. > :32:29.I think he is a black type horse. am fed-up picking the big big ones

:32:29. > :32:38.and I have gone for Fame And Glory. Yeah.

:32:38. > :32:45.Listen, he has got the class, but will he have the gas? Good question.

:32:45. > :32:55.I will leave these two. If we come up we can see it is

:32:55. > :32:56.

:32:56. > :32:59.Silverheels and Bannock and of people will be looking and

:32:59. > :33:03.supporting if only for the name. The runners have made their way

:33:03. > :33:08.into the paddock. We are celebrating this year the centenary

:33:08. > :33:12.of Ascot as a racecourse. 300 years that horses have been racing here

:33:12. > :33:14.since Queen Anne decided it was a good place for them to gallop at

:33:14. > :33:18.full stretch. We will be looking back over the highlights that

:33:18. > :33:28.occurred in racing terms and others on this racecourse and starting

:33:28. > :33:32.

:33:32. > :33:39.with the great Gold Cup horse, If it can go and win four in a row,

:33:39. > :33:49.truly special, you know. Yeates is bidding for immortality.

:33:49. > :33:50.

:33:50. > :33:55.Destiny calls. There is four tunes for it.

:33:55. > :34:03.COMMENTATOR: Yeates is very handy. Four-and-a-half four longs to

:34:03. > :34:09.travel in the Ascot Gold Cup. Johnny Murtagh has gone for home.

:34:09. > :34:13.Yeates is digging deep. He is three lengths in front. The young

:34:13. > :34:20.pretender, it is not going to be his day. Yeates goes to the top of

:34:20. > :34:23.a long list of Ascot greats. A stayer supreme. He wins his fourth

:34:24. > :34:28.Ascot Gold Cup. I was so sick all morning because I

:34:28. > :34:33.really believed that this couldn't happen.

:34:33. > :34:37.Yeates is everything positive about racing. He is the greatest. He is

:34:37. > :34:47.the ultimate heavy champion It has been a day that had

:34:47. > :34:48.

:34:48. > :34:52.everything and we hope you have It would be a long, long time

:34:52. > :34:58.before we see a stayer as good as Yeates and he is so far the only

:34:58. > :35:03.horse to have won the Gold Cup four years in a row, dominating it from

:35:03. > :35:13.2006 to 2009 and it is because of that he is commemorated in the

:35:13. > :35:18.

:35:18. > :35:22.paddock with this statue which was was was sculpted by Charlie Langdon.

:35:22. > :35:25.I remember coming here when I was 12 or 13 I think, and thinking just

:35:25. > :35:30.how amazing it would be to have one piece here, a painting or a drawing

:35:30. > :35:33.or something, but to have a life- size bronze in the paddock here

:35:33. > :35:42.unveiled by the Queen on Tuesday, it was just incredible.

:35:42. > :35:46.I know you went and saw Yeates. What you have captured so well is

:35:46. > :35:51.his presence, the way he holds himself and the huge muscle

:35:51. > :35:54.structure he had as a racehorse. He always looked twice the size of

:35:54. > :35:59.everything else? Thank you very much. He was the most imposing

:35:59. > :36:02.horse and seeing the replays of him winning the Gold Cup makes your

:36:02. > :36:06.hairs stand up on edge. It is amazing. I had a real strong,

:36:06. > :36:10.mental image of him when I came here and saw him running in the

:36:10. > :36:16.Gold Cups and had that mental image of him walking like that, long

:36:16. > :36:19.extension and the head down, neck arched and I went and spoke about

:36:19. > :36:23.it and I asked them whether that would be a good representation of

:36:23. > :36:27.him and they seemed to agree. We decided that would be a good place

:36:27. > :36:30.for him here. The eagle-eyed might have spotted

:36:30. > :36:34.Willie, because you have got one issue. There is one thing you don't

:36:34. > :36:39.like about this? It is marvellous. It is the first time I have ever

:36:39. > :36:46.seen a bronze with a racing saddle on and the Rapes, but as -- rains -

:36:46. > :36:50.- reigns, but as a racing person I look at at a foal, a racehorse and

:36:50. > :36:52.I look at his eye and you haven't got any!

:36:52. > :37:01.I haven't got an answer for that Willie.

:37:01. > :37:11.What's the answer? If you come up closer. I have sculpted in the

:37:11. > :37:14.

:37:14. > :37:21.negative. If you sculp it an an -- sculpt, it looks like it has

:37:21. > :37:30.cataracts. It is sculpted outwards. Can you see that? I thought you

:37:30. > :37:35.might have done it so it is to be looked at from a distance, but I am

:37:35. > :37:39.talking as a horseman! But I can see that, yes. But it is a very,

:37:39. > :37:43.very nice, well I am in love with it, put it that way. It is

:37:43. > :37:52.fantastic. It has had a lot of admirers.

:37:52. > :37:56.If you watch Royal Ascot, you get We are going to have a look at a

:37:57. > :37:59.couple of the horses in the Norfolk Stakes. A field full of

:38:00. > :38:04.inexperience and potential superstars or potential stars and

:38:04. > :38:09.the first one to talk about is Bannock of Mark Johnson's who was

:38:09. > :38:14.unlucky last time at Sandown and could have won three in a row?

:38:14. > :38:21.but it is a great man for the two- year-olds, Mark Johnson. He looked

:38:21. > :38:25.a picture and as you say, unlucky. Pyman's Theory is quietly fancied

:38:25. > :38:35.here. A horse who has come down here with

:38:35. > :38:38.

:38:38. > :38:43.A horse who has come down here with a big reputation is Bapak Chinta?

:38:43. > :38:46.This fellow impressive on winning a Hamilton. They will need to get

:38:46. > :38:56.home this afternoon with the ground soft.

:38:56. > :39:00.

:39:00. > :39:08.You want to talk about horses that are well fancied and took your eye?

:39:08. > :39:12.Sans Loi. I asked if it would handle the ground? And Ryan Moore's

:39:12. > :39:18.horse, I like that one as well. This is a guy who made a huge

:39:18. > :39:21.impression when he came to Royal Ascot with two winners, Wesley Ward,

:39:21. > :39:25.he has Everyday Dave and he names all the horse which is why they

:39:26. > :39:30.have catchy names. Is this horse an every day type or is especial?

:39:31. > :39:36.is a quick little guy. He is a happy little guy. So you know, I

:39:36. > :39:39.think we have a good chance. I know you the changed the

:39:39. > :39:43.preparation coming here with a stronger team and have been

:39:43. > :39:48.determined to get more winners on the board? You try to best what

:39:48. > :39:51.everyone does. Unfortunately we had not as much success as we have the

:39:51. > :39:54.first year we came over, but this is a very fast colt. I don't know

:39:54. > :39:57.what the ground will do for him and the rain we had this morning. He

:39:57. > :40:01.would have had a better chance if it was firm ground like a couple of

:40:01. > :40:04.years ago, but he is a fighter and you know, he loves a challenge in

:40:04. > :40:06.the morning when you work him in company, he is always trying to

:40:06. > :40:09.beat the other horse, we will see what happens.

:40:09. > :40:14.He will have had experience because you brought the horses over early

:40:14. > :40:17.and you have been training them in France? Yes. I brought them over a

:40:17. > :40:21.little early and I gave them a couple of runs in France because we

:40:21. > :40:25.don't have the straight course in the United States not even to work

:40:25. > :40:32.on. I wanted to give him an experience of running on a straight

:40:32. > :40:38.course and you know, he is -- he has done everything the right way.

:40:38. > :40:43.The ground for you is a worry? is. This horse was trained early on

:40:43. > :40:47.in Miami and it is a sandy, deep course and he just shot through it

:40:47. > :40:49.in February and March of this year. I'm hopeful that he will be able to

:40:49. > :40:56.handle it. The best chance of the week comes

:40:57. > :40:59.tomorrow, I guess? She is just an awesome filly. I'm just hoping it

:40:59. > :41:03.doesn't rain anymore, but that's the forecast so we will see what

:41:03. > :41:06.happens. Today is my mother's birthday, maybe we will have luck

:41:06. > :41:11.with that also. We wish you luck today with

:41:11. > :41:18.Everyday Dave. The filly tomorrow is Judy the Beauty and he thinks an

:41:18. > :41:24.tomorrow. Everyday Dave is named after Dave Reid who is one of the

:41:24. > :41:28.part owners of this horse and he is a man who had enormous success in

:41:28. > :41:32.harness racing. Anyway, let's see how he gets on.

:41:32. > :41:42.Let's check the runners and riders in the Norfolk Stakes. They are at

:41:42. > :41:42.

:41:42. > :42:38.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 182 seconds

:42:38. > :42:41.very simp. Le. It is a straight force. The question is going to be

:42:42. > :42:44.today, will there be something winning on the far side, that's on

:42:45. > :42:49.the right as we look at them? It will be interesting. The rain has

:42:49. > :42:59.set in. You can see the carriages, the Royal carriages were making a

:42:59. > :43:14.

:43:14. > :43:19.real mark there. We will see how number 11, Everyday Dave, I thought

:43:19. > :43:23.it would be favourite. It was 5-1 this morning and it is solid, it is

:43:23. > :43:26.out on the boards, as big as 8 and could be 9-1. Nobody wants to back

:43:26. > :43:29.Everyday Dave. I don't know why, John.

:43:29. > :43:35.Another one drifting is Pyman's Theory. She is is trained by this

:43:35. > :43:39.man who had his first Royal Ascot winner last night with Rhythm of

:43:39. > :43:43.Light and it is the rain that's putting people off this filly,

:43:43. > :43:47.isn't it? I don't know. She drifted out to 10-1, I can't understand

:43:47. > :43:53.that. When she won at Sandown, it was good to soft.

:43:53. > :43:57.You would be hopeful? Yes, I think, in a lot of ways I'm more hopeful

:43:57. > :44:04.because yesterday she couldn't win because she she has drawn three.

:44:04. > :44:07.There is a possibility the draw might not be so bad today.

:44:07. > :44:14.She is called Pyman's Theory because of the theory is thatter

:44:14. > :44:18.sire does well with runners at ast cot? He had the winner of the Queen

:44:18. > :44:21.Mary yesterday. Yes, he does seem to do well here. I don't know

:44:21. > :44:24.whether he does well on soft ground as well as firm ground, but we will

:44:24. > :44:30.see. We will find out soon.

:44:30. > :44:33.Willie Carson tipped your runner in the last race? Right, well as long

:44:33. > :44:35.as the horse doesn't know it should be OK.

:44:35. > :44:39.Thanks, Tom. Thanks.

:44:39. > :44:49.Let's look at the runners in our first race. This is Silverheels. He

:44:49. > :44:52.

:44:52. > :44:56.is number 18. This horse ran around and you can see he is having a good

:44:56. > :45:02.look. A strong looking bull of a horse. It is interesting that Ryan

:45:02. > :45:09.Moore was keen to get on this horse. He won the horse that finish to it,

:45:10. > :45:19.a horse called Lord Of The Shadows. This horse caught Ryan's eye and he

:45:20. > :45:26.

:45:26. > :45:32.was keen to ride this one. Bapak Chinta we spoke about him.

:45:33. > :45:40.There is Charles The Great going forward. He is trained by Andrew

:45:40. > :45:50.Balding. There are only a few more to go forward including the

:45:50. > :45:51.

:45:51. > :45:59.Royal Ascot. Richard Hannon has three winners and Silverheels is

:45:59. > :46:03.the new favourite at 4-1. Richard Hannon has not won this

:46:03. > :46:08.race for nine years. He won it three times. The first time with

:46:08. > :46:13.that brilliant filly Niche back in 1992.

:46:13. > :46:18.A couple going forward. Richard Hughes looking forward to another

:46:18. > :46:23.great day. One raring on the far side getting restless.

:46:24. > :46:30.They stand better now. Still a bit of activity on the far side. That's

:46:30. > :46:33.it. Ready, they're racing. A good start to the American Everyday Dave

:46:33. > :46:36.one of the first to begin on the near side. Pyman's Theory right

:46:36. > :46:40.over on the far side is going fast at the early stages with Bapak

:46:40. > :46:44.Chinta. And coming up the centre Charles The Great and Crown

:46:44. > :46:51.Dependency. On the near side the American is there, well clear,

:46:51. > :46:54.Everyday Dave. It is well out in front here of this stage Marcus

:46:54. > :46:59.Augustus proceeding that one further back in the field Signifer

:46:59. > :47:02.and in company with Silverheels. As they come up towards the two

:47:02. > :47:10.furlong marker, only five on this stands group. All the activity over

:47:10. > :47:14.on the far side as as Bapak Chinta raced to a clear lead. Battling

:47:14. > :47:18.away is Pyman's Theory and now Boomerang Bob is running on with

:47:18. > :47:21.great effect on the near side. Bapak Chinta starting to get tired.

:47:21. > :47:25.Boomerang Bob and Crown Dependency coming hard in the leader. It is

:47:25. > :47:30.Bapak Chinta in front though and Bapak Chinta smart. Bapak Chinta

:47:30. > :47:38.goes on to win the Norfolk in good style. Boomerang Bob is second.

:47:38. > :47:48.Crown Dependency third. Burwaaz is fourth. Silverheels never got into

:47:48. > :47:50.

:47:50. > :47:59.it. They are followed by Bannock and then further back in the field

:47:59. > :48:04.forever in the, Forevertheoptimist. Really courageous win. I would say

:48:04. > :48:09.a little bit of improvement in him and more wins to come. Second is

:48:09. > :48:13.Boomerang Bob. Third is Crown Dependency. And fourth on the

:48:13. > :48:17.stands rail was Burwaaz. They couldn't get near them on the

:48:17. > :48:19.stands rail. Next was Signifer. Followed by Bannock. Top of the

:48:19. > :48:24.screen, the grey, Forevertheoptimist. They are

:48:24. > :48:28.followed by Silverheels. Couldn't get into it. Pyman's Theory showed

:48:28. > :48:33.pace and got tired. Charles The Great is next. Then the American,

:48:33. > :48:40.Everyday Dave. He wasn't there for long. There followed by Tell Dad

:48:40. > :48:50.and then Sans Loi and further back is Cravat and Marcus Augustus is

:48:50. > :49:01.

:49:01. > :49:05.towards the rear. But the winner is Bapak Chinta owned by -- trained by

:49:05. > :49:15.Kevin Ryan. This time the action in the centre

:49:15. > :49:21.

:49:21. > :49:27.Boomerang Bob and Crown Dependency, 8-1. It is to Hamilton you need to

:49:27. > :49:31.go for the clues in the two-year- old races. This horse had won his

:49:32. > :49:40.only starter at Hamilton. You will see where he came from and where

:49:40. > :49:46.Boomerang Bob came from as well. It looks like the centre is the

:49:46. > :49:56.place to be today, Willie. Again, a second Royal Ascot winner for Kevin

:49:56. > :50:00.Ryan and a first for Philip Makin. I would say at moment, I wouldn't

:50:01. > :50:08.worry where you are drawn. But in this race, the speed, right from

:50:08. > :50:13.the word go was up the middle towards the far side and this horse

:50:13. > :50:20.backed was always in the wagon and of course, it is a tough five

:50:20. > :50:25.furlongs here, but this colt, he gets the trip really well. You can

:50:26. > :50:30.see him there. He just put his head up a bit high. His ears are back

:50:30. > :50:36.listening to what the jockey is saying to him and taking notice as

:50:36. > :50:41.well! Philip Makin urging him forward

:50:41. > :50:44.with with his hands and body. Look at his toes. It is a balancing

:50:44. > :50:47.act. That's where the jockey gets their

:50:47. > :50:52.balance from. The toes in the iron there and of course, you can see

:50:52. > :50:58.the heel going up and down as he was pushing.

:50:58. > :51:02.A nice type of horse this, well, obviously after winning the Norfolk

:51:02. > :51:07.Stakes. They were worried about the ground.

:51:07. > :51:13.So did Philip, but the rain hasn't got in much? Everybody would be

:51:13. > :51:16.worried about the ground because we have had half an inch of rain and

:51:16. > :51:23.these are young babies really and all had one race. They haven't had

:51:23. > :51:26.a lot of experience, but they all ran truer and straight. I was

:51:26. > :51:31.surprised and in this ground you might have thought they got tired

:51:31. > :51:39.towards the finish, but they didn't and they got to the line and this

:51:39. > :51:46.horse ran as straight as a gun barrel.

:51:46. > :51:56.So there he is, and his sire was a Breeders' Cup sprint winner. He is

:51:56. > :51:58.

:51:58. > :52:06.the sire of a group one winner and on the dam side of this colt, we

:52:06. > :52:13.see a champion from Jamaica. So quite an international pedigree.

:52:13. > :52:19.Winning at Royal Ascot in the Norfolk Stakes. Kevin Ryan is the

:52:19. > :52:23.winning trainer and the winning rider, Philip Makin who had

:52:23. > :52:26.reservations beforehand about the ground, but he found the right

:52:26. > :52:32.strip and that was out in the centre and this is going to, I

:52:32. > :52:35.think, change today. We might just see the emphasis change from those

:52:35. > :52:39.dominating on the near side to fab the centre -- maybe the centre and

:52:39. > :52:44.it will only take a winner on the far side and they will be all over

:52:44. > :52:50.there. Certainly the punters will be favouring those with low numbers

:52:50. > :52:56.if they are. So there is the winner in the

:52:56. > :53:00.enclosure. And a deserved pat for a very good winner of our first race.

:53:00. > :53:10.I think he is going to go on to better things. Now we will check

:53:10. > :53:26.

:53:26. > :53:30.up all night looking for horses drawn. After that first race,

:53:30. > :53:37.unbelievable. The ground is on the soft side. We have got to look for

:53:37. > :53:42.low numbers now. The winning trainer Kevin Ryan is with me. The

:53:42. > :53:47.second Royal Ascot winner. The cat was out of the bag when this horse

:53:47. > :53:51.ran at Hamilton? He is a very good horse and he does everything right

:53:51. > :53:55.at home. The win at Hamilton, we were confident. We came here

:53:55. > :54:01.confident and the rain came this morning and we got a bit worried,

:54:01. > :54:05.you know, with his breathing, it suggests he wants top of the grown,

:54:05. > :54:10.but that's the sign of a good horse when they can overcome the ground.

:54:10. > :54:14.You think on better ground you will see a better horse? He will have

:54:14. > :54:21.found it tough work on that ground. His breathing suggests tomorrow of

:54:21. > :54:26.the ground, but he is a top horse. What was it that encouraged you?

:54:26. > :54:30.takes an older horse to lead him in the gallop. He relaxes and before

:54:30. > :54:34.he went to Hamilton he has never been off the bridle and he has

:54:34. > :54:39.never come off it since at home. That's the type of horse he is. We

:54:39. > :54:43.thought, he will have to come off it today and when he did, he found

:54:43. > :54:47.gears, you know. Everyone seems to know that you

:54:47. > :54:50.have a good team of two-year-olds, where would this fella rank? They

:54:50. > :54:55.are nice horses, but this horse, there is something different about

:54:55. > :54:59.him. I just don't know. Everything he does, he does it easy and he has

:54:59. > :55:04.a great attitude and just a lovely horse to train.

:55:04. > :55:14.He is a May four, so he is only a young horse.

:55:14. > :55:14.

:55:14. > :55:20.The jockey is behind you, Philip Maken. The first oil first Royal

:55:20. > :55:25.Ascot winner? I have never sat on a horse as good as this. I only

:55:25. > :55:29.thought you had to to turn up at Hamilton and it turned out not a

:55:30. > :55:33.bad race and he did this easily and today, he was unbelievable. He took

:55:33. > :55:38.me down to the two and when I let him off, I was just half thinking,

:55:38. > :55:41.what's going to happen now? We gave him a blow the other day and it was

:55:41. > :55:44.the first time he was off the bridle, but he tried his guts. He

:55:44. > :55:47.didn't really like the ground. He would be a better horse on better

:55:47. > :55:53.ground. The trainer was saying the horse is

:55:53. > :55:58.one who has hardly had to come auft bridle. What is encouraging, he

:55:58. > :56:03.came came off the bridle today? was so impressive the other day

:56:03. > :56:07.when he did let him go. I have been so confident for the last couple of

:56:07. > :56:11.months and you get to the day and you are having second thoughts with

:56:11. > :56:17.the ground and everything. I am so glad that he showed how good he is.

:56:17. > :56:22.What's it like to register your first Royal Ascot win? It is a

:56:22. > :56:25.great feeling and I hope it is the first of many really.

:56:25. > :56:28.Philip Makin. Let's go back to the start of the

:56:29. > :56:33.contest. There was one playing up in the stalls and this is from

:56:33. > :56:39.stall number 11, it is a horse called Tell Dad who is one of

:56:39. > :56:46.Richard Hannon's horses. It is unusual because his if hu to pick a

:56:46. > :56:55.stable -- if had to pick a stable. A few problems there. He got away

:56:55. > :57:01.well enough with them. With Mick, I am going to have a look at this one,

:57:01. > :57:04.Burwaaz. He finished well, but we get this every year, the ground has

:57:04. > :57:08.changed because of the rain, is that the best place to be? During

:57:08. > :57:13.this race down the centre they were faster. That might be the key point

:57:13. > :57:16.that the early pace was faster down the centre? The one thing I noticed

:57:16. > :57:19.about the race today, nobody wanted to get over to that side. They

:57:19. > :57:25.wanted to stay in the middle and that could be significant for the

:57:25. > :57:28.horses later on. Looking to the future, Burwaaz, the

:57:28. > :57:32.blue and white colours, he has beaten the horses he was racing

:57:32. > :57:36.against and he is closing on the ones in front, but of course, they

:57:36. > :57:40.are too far out on the track from him to get competitive with?

:57:40. > :57:45.anybody who backed him can feel aggrieved because I think this

:57:45. > :57:49.fella, he will have another day. Yes, that's unfortunate. The luck

:57:49. > :57:52.of the draw. He is one to bear in mind when you see him on the track.

:57:52. > :57:56.Now look at that time so for all we have seen all all week is times

:57:56. > :58:04.that were faster than average. That was a shade over three seconds

:58:04. > :58:10.winner. Yes as did happen on the two-year-

:58:10. > :58:16.old race yesterday. The youngest horse in the race won the race. It

:58:16. > :58:20.was born on the 16th May. So he is only four weeks over his two-year-

:58:20. > :58:26.old birthday and he was the youngest horse in the whole race.

:58:26. > :58:31.So age doesn't mean anything, does it? If you are strong and, yes, I

:58:31. > :58:35.was quite impressed. Like Wayne Rooney, get on with it.

:58:35. > :58:40.I was impressed. Kevin Ryan has so many horses. He

:58:40. > :58:44.has a strong two-year-old team. I read somewhere he said, "This

:58:44. > :58:47.year, I have got a really good bunch of two-year-olds. The

:58:47. > :58:50.strongest I have ever had." You want to be following his two-year-

:58:50. > :58:58.olds. As it is Ladies' Day, all the

:58:58. > :59:08.trophy presenters today apart from the last race is women. Her Majesty,

:59:08. > :59:15.

:59:15. > :59:21.the Queen, makes the presentation for the Gold Cup.

:59:21. > :59:31.The lady presenting this trophy, her family had lots of connection

:59:31. > :59:32.

:59:32. > :59:36.with racing. The winning, this lady is

:59:36. > :59:43.representing the winning owner. Kevin Ryan will be coming forward

:59:43. > :59:46.indeed and Philip Makin. Tas lovely -- it is a lovely trophy that for

:59:46. > :59:56.the Norfolk. A round of applause from all of

:59:56. > :00:06.

:00:06. > :00:11.those who appreciate the effort and Between 1945 and 1972, he was here.

:00:11. > :00:14.This is the Duke of Devonshire's last year. Johnny Wetherby taking

:00:14. > :00:20.over, as Her Majesty's representative for Ascot.

:00:20. > :00:25.Kevin Ryan having a good laugh there with Dame Rosalind. That will

:00:25. > :00:29.have put him in a good mood, a great start to the day. A fantastic

:00:29. > :00:39.day yesterday, the Prince of Wales's Stakes, but the plan

:00:39. > :00:43.doesn't always go to script. Seven runners in this race, a

:00:43. > :00:50.packed paddock, it's Group 1, top class. All looking forward to

:00:50. > :01:00.seeing So You Think, in the flesh. Something special. You've got to go

:01:00. > :01:01.

:01:01. > :01:11.for the favourite. Put your house on it! Don't ignore this one, a

:01:11. > :01:17.

:01:17. > :01:26.of Wales... So You Think is in the lead. The Aussie superstar going

:01:26. > :01:36.three lengths in front. A furlong left. A furlong and a half in front.

:01:36. > :01:51.

:01:51. > :01:54.He's being worn down. So You Think gentlemen, to lose a house! We put

:01:55. > :01:59.our life and soul into the job in sport and this is what we are here

:01:59. > :02:03.for, to have this kind of finish. Great races like this one, full

:02:04. > :02:09.credit for a great team. Would you look to apologise to all those

:02:09. > :02:14.people who may just have lost their house. Buy a tent! Buy a tent or

:02:14. > :02:18.come and stay with Willie if you no longer have a house.

:02:19. > :02:23.Cold in that tent you know! sure it was. Dreadful advice from

:02:23. > :02:26.you. But, Frankie Dettori threw everything at his horse and too

:02:26. > :02:31.much because he struck the horse 24 times in the last two furlongs.

:02:31. > :02:35.bit too much, yes. But there's a lot of things at stake here, we are

:02:35. > :02:40.talking about Sheikh Mohammed who's spent so many, many, many millions

:02:40. > :02:44.on this game and, of course, this horse winning this race means a lot

:02:44. > :02:48.to them because we are talking tens of millions of pounds here. It's

:02:48. > :02:52.interesting because it wasn't a race that watching it was

:02:53. > :02:57.particularly, didn't stand out this, but when you watch it again and the

:02:57. > :03:00.numbers are what matter, as far as the guidelines are concerned, 13 is

:03:00. > :03:05.the recommended amount. That is the recommended maximum amount that you

:03:05. > :03:08.can hit a horse. He is actually only flicking, he is flicking, he's

:03:08. > :03:14.making contact, but the only contact of the stick is just at the

:03:14. > :03:21.very tip of the stick. That's a little tiny flick. Just there, he

:03:21. > :03:25.goes a little bit rat-a-at the-at the. Whereas when you contrast it

:03:25. > :03:29.with Ryan Moore, he's probably giving it a bit more. The team went

:03:29. > :03:34.out there to make this race a test of stamina, they should have gone

:03:34. > :03:42.to do a test of speed. They would have won then. Those are the

:03:42. > :03:47.guidelines. When you are riding, do you count? No. So if you can't

:03:47. > :03:50.count that many when you are riding and the adrenaline is flowing and

:03:50. > :03:56.the blood is up, and you are throwing everything at the line, or

:03:56. > :04:02.at the horse? We are driving in a Grand Prix race, imagine you are

:04:02. > :04:09.Lewis Hamilton. What does he do, you know. They take chances. You

:04:09. > :04:12.have to take chances to win these big races. You're employed and

:04:12. > :04:16.you're given, like Frankie Dettori, a big retainer, and they have to

:04:16. > :04:21.make stallions. Now, for me, Frankie Dettori, he's only doing

:04:21. > :04:24.his job. Now, the thing is, we don't always agree with the horses

:04:24. > :04:29.getting that. He wasn't beat up, that horse, he was getting flicked,

:04:29. > :04:35.but he got flicked too many times. But the guidelines have to be

:04:35. > :04:39.changed and give the jockeys a black-and-white... More discretion?

:04:39. > :04:43.Black-and-white. Make it black-and- white. How do you do that? They

:04:43. > :04:48.have to sit around a table. Would you recommend disqualification?

:04:48. > :04:54.no, I wouldn't do that. That is starting to hurt the punter. We

:04:54. > :04:58.don't want to do that. We only want to hurt the jockey for doing that,

:04:58. > :05:02.you know, he's riding the horse to the best of his ability, but if

:05:02. > :05:08.every jockey knows where their limit is... So would you bring the

:05:08. > :05:12.limit down so it's easier to register? Yes. Bring it down and

:05:12. > :05:17.say, you are only allowed to hit it six times and that's it, if you go

:05:17. > :05:22.over that, suspension, bang, no haves or buts or anything, that's

:05:22. > :05:29.it. Then you could actually go as far as to say, if you get suspended

:05:29. > :05:38.three times, you are not going to have a stick for three months.

:05:38. > :05:42.- three months, rather than nine races? Three months without a

:05:42. > :05:46.stick? Yes. Interesting idea and argument. To put the counter to

:05:46. > :05:50.your point that the punter would suffer, the punters who backed So

:05:50. > :05:54.You Think have suffered. Why? Because if Frankie hadn't hit the

:05:54. > :06:01.horse 24 times, you could argue he wouldn't have got there, in which

:06:01. > :06:05.case the punt, would have collected on So You Think. I won't go along

:06:05. > :06:09.with that, because you are trying to tell me, because he hit this

:06:09. > :06:13.horse, that was why he won. You are trying to tell me that the horse

:06:13. > :06:18.isn't... He's only helping the horse, keeping it going. You could

:06:18. > :06:22.see from two furlongs out that Frankie Dettori was inching. He was

:06:22. > :06:28.a great ride, you know. Ryan Moore's doing exactly the same

:06:28. > :06:33.thing. Look, boomf. Frankie is very quick, bang, bang, done this a few

:06:33. > :06:41.time on the run-in here. Seems that's why the numbers have toted

:06:41. > :06:44.up there. They're only goodlines, there's no rules about it. The

:06:44. > :06:49.guidelines say nine and Frankie went above those guidelines so, in

:06:49. > :06:52.other words, the stewards had him in and they watched the film and

:06:52. > :06:56.said that he should have a suspension. Would you say the

:06:56. > :07:00.system at the moment works? It's wrong. We'll discuss further in the

:07:00. > :07:06.programme and get a view from Jamie Steer, who is going to be in charge

:07:06. > :07:10.of the Steering group that meets in the autumn. He's from the British

:07:10. > :07:13.Horseracing Authority, also Kevin Darley representing the jockey's

:07:13. > :07:18.point of view and Head of The professional jockeys association.

:07:18. > :07:21.It's a very difficult subject, a difficult thing to get right and

:07:21. > :07:26.rediscussed this for about three hour this is morning and we all had

:07:26. > :07:29.different views and Rishi and Mick have views of their own. Mick and I

:07:29. > :07:33.were watching that again. Claire and Willie have differing views.

:07:33. > :07:36.Between the four of us this morning, we all had different views, but one

:07:36. > :07:40.thing worth pointing out is that there are so many things to

:07:40. > :07:43.consider, the welfare of the horse, the image of horse racing and also

:07:43. > :07:46.whether or not punters are getting a full value for money. We are

:07:46. > :07:52.looking at a race in the closing stages yesterday and talking about

:07:52. > :07:56.Frankie Dettori's broke tn guidelines and Ryan Moore hasn't.

:07:56. > :07:59.Frankie Dettori's kept the race, but I don't think anyone who's been

:07:59. > :08:03.following racing every day will have an arguen't with yesterday,

:08:03. > :08:07.the best horse won the race, what do you think? I think looking at it,

:08:07. > :08:10.Ryan Moore's done his best and if you asked him if he hit his horse

:08:10. > :08:14.nine more times, would the horse have won and the answer would be no.

:08:14. > :08:19.Exactly. The image that we have to portray is one that we care about

:08:19. > :08:22.the horse and sometimes people on the outside don't see that, but we

:08:22. > :08:30.do. What if Frankie Dettori hit his horse nine times less, would that

:08:30. > :08:34.have made a difference? We'll never know. Would we have not gotten to

:08:34. > :08:37.the bottom of the opponent's ability? It's an argument that

:08:37. > :08:41.raged on and on, three hours this morning! We have to find something

:08:41. > :08:45.that works, that is a deterrent to the jockeys when they cross the

:08:45. > :08:52.guidelines and something that is going to reward somebody who rides

:08:52. > :08:58.twn guidelines. Thing's where you've got to have the fine line --

:08:58. > :09:04.within the guidelines. On a lighter note, you can not think of ladies'

:09:04. > :09:07.day without this fine gentleman, Mr Stephen Jones who makes THE most

:09:07. > :09:11.fabulous hats. Thank you very much. You are showing here. Welcome to

:09:12. > :09:19.the BBC. Tell us about your spring summer collection? It's called

:09:19. > :09:23.Drifting & Dreaming, inspired by a British artist from 1930s and it's

:09:23. > :09:27.very beautiful hats, everything is very soft, soft colours, quite

:09:27. > :09:30.romantic too. How does it work with hats because we fashion, we see it

:09:30. > :09:33.changing and it hits the high street. With hats, it's a little

:09:33. > :09:37.slower, but you are making the trends really? Yes, it is slower

:09:37. > :09:41.and the thing is, you always have to suit the hat to your fashion,

:09:41. > :09:46.but also to your face. So people's faces don't change with fashion

:09:46. > :09:51.either so you have to have a little fascinator or a bigger brimmed hat

:09:51. > :09:55.or a hat to go for somebody with glasses, all sorts of things.

:09:55. > :10:01.Fashions do change. We are seeing a change this season already. Louis,

:10:01. > :10:06.we are seeing a lot of saucer hats this year? Yes. They're up away

:10:06. > :10:10.from the hair and so a lot of women who don't like to put their hair up,

:10:10. > :10:14.it suets them with their hair down as well. -- suitings them. There

:10:14. > :10:18.has to be a lot of consideration with the skin tone as well because

:10:18. > :10:22.it's so close to the face I imagine as well? Exactly. Often people will

:10:22. > :10:27.say, I'm wearing a pink dress so I want a pink hat, but nothing could

:10:27. > :10:32.be less flattering actually, so they need a neutral or black hat. F.

:10:32. > :10:36.If you had a lime hat, you yourself would look lime. I don't want to

:10:36. > :10:41.look lime. Talk us through some of your creations, fabulous pictures

:10:41. > :10:48.that we are just about to see. Just an absolute treat. Girls getting

:10:48. > :10:58.made up for the show there. This is a lovely hat made from ostrich

:10:58. > :10:59.

:10:59. > :11:07.spines. This other little hat in waves of white grain. I love this

:11:07. > :11:15.one too, diamante horns. This is like a giant humbug. This was going

:11:15. > :11:20.on in the restaurant a few minutes ago. Super. Really interesting and

:11:20. > :11:24.floaty, as you say. You have also been involved in something with the

:11:24. > :11:28.British Fashion Council and with Ascot. Tell us about hedonism?

:11:28. > :11:35.started a couple of years ago by the British Fashion Council and

:11:35. > :11:39.it's for me to collect together some young miliners and promote

:11:39. > :11:43.them because Britain is considered as the hat capital of the world.

:11:43. > :11:49.can see some hats here. Tell us why these are so special. Lovely to see

:11:49. > :11:55.young British miliners here to too. This is a Noel Stuart. Noel went on

:11:55. > :12:02.holiday to Scotland an wanted to make a summer Tartan. You would

:12:03. > :12:11.have to wear more clothes than that in Scotland! P iz ers in the middle

:12:11. > :12:18.has made this fantastic golden apple -- pierce. This looks almost

:12:18. > :12:24.classic but beautifully made. Justin Smith. This coordinates

:12:24. > :12:28.soperfectly with this dress. Looks very Italian '50s somehow. They

:12:28. > :12:31.really are lovely. It's great to wear hats at Ascot in horse racing

:12:31. > :12:35.but it's lovely to wear hats at other events too. People aren't

:12:35. > :12:39.brave enough because people do look at you. Do you feel as though there

:12:39. > :12:41.is an explosion now and people are buying more hats? Completely,

:12:41. > :12:45.around the world. The Royal Wedding influenced so many people. In

:12:45. > :12:49.Britain we know about hats, but in America they don't, in Asia they

:12:49. > :12:51.don't, but suddenly, I was at a ball a few days after the Royal

:12:52. > :12:57.Wedding and everybody had evening hats on, it was fantastic, so

:12:58. > :13:05.Britain's leading the world. That's a good note to end on isn't it.

:13:05. > :13:09.Thank you, Stephen. Mick and I are now in a pretty wet

:13:09. > :13:15.paddock. We are surviving the rain. We are looking at horses ahead of

:13:15. > :13:20.the Ribblesdale Stake ps. Godolphin have the favourite. We were talking

:13:20. > :13:24.about the performance yesterday and Frankie Dettori being done for

:13:25. > :13:29.excessive use of the race. The owner said the horse came out of it

:13:29. > :13:35.fine and dandy, that shows that Frankie didn't harm the horse

:13:35. > :13:39.whatsoever. Let's talk about her mirbgs how does she look to you?

:13:39. > :13:43.There is no doubt about that -- about her, Mick. They have a great

:13:43. > :13:48.knack of getting horses back to form and maintaining that form. I'm

:13:48. > :13:53.sure they'll be hoping to carry on the good run after yesterday.

:13:53. > :13:59.the paddock, we have a look at Zain Al Boldan, just about to be ridden

:13:59. > :14:03.by Kieren Fallon. This is a horse who ran disappointingly at Epsom,

:14:03. > :14:08.but up until that point, she was extremely progressive, doing better

:14:08. > :14:11.with every run? She was so impressive in the trial at

:14:11. > :14:16.Lingfield. A reasonable field, but didn't have the run of the race at

:14:16. > :14:21.Epsom. Held up at the back off a slow pace. When Johnny Murtagh

:14:21. > :14:26.quickened the place, she was caught out and finished like a train. Mick

:14:27. > :14:33.Shannon will be hopeful she'll run better today. Henry Cecil had a

:14:33. > :14:38.winner with Frankel on Tuesday. He has a runner here, a white face and

:14:38. > :14:45.four white socks, it's unusual to see that, but she's a filly who has

:14:45. > :14:50.to bounce back from a disappointing run, Arizona Jewel? Yes, just a

:14:50. > :14:55.little on her toes and taken out nice and quietly. When you see a

:14:55. > :14:58.horse come out last, it's deliberate to keep the horse nice

:14:58. > :15:03.and calm. It was an excuse at the end of the race that she was in

:15:03. > :15:06.season, that was the excuse for why she didn't run well last time?

:15:06. > :15:15.a bit like a dog when it gets in heat, it's not concentrating on

:15:15. > :15:21.what it should be. Maybe she's getting a chance to show her best.

:15:21. > :15:26.I hope Zain Al Boldan wins for Mick Shannon, I went to see him and he

:15:26. > :15:32.was hopeful, so I hope she runs well for him. It's 13 days since

:15:32. > :15:39.the Oaks and they often call this the Ascot Oaks, a mile and a half.

:15:39. > :15:43.Only one filly coming from Epsom to run today though, Zain Al Boldan. I

:15:43. > :15:53.give her a real chance here provided she handles these

:15:53. > :15:53.

:15:53. > :16:33.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 182 seconds

:16:33. > :16:37.conditions. The runners and riders King George. They're running

:16:37. > :16:41.downhill here all the time until they retch Swindley Bottom. Then

:16:41. > :16:45.they have a sharp right hander. Six-and-a-half furlongs to go.

:16:45. > :16:49.Uphill all the way then. It's a real test of a horse. Into the home

:16:49. > :16:59.straight and then it's a real stamina-sapping run right to the

:16:59. > :17:01.

:17:01. > :17:11.line. A mile and a happen, the Ribblesdale Stakes.

:17:11. > :17:24.

:17:24. > :17:28.weak betting market here. Can't give you any big bets. This morning,

:17:29. > :17:34.15,000 each way, the top one, Arizona Jewel, at 14-1 but other

:17:34. > :17:38.than that, nothing at all. This morning, the money, Arizona Jewel.

:17:38. > :17:42.This though is our favourite, Rumh and Frankie Dettori just coming out

:17:42. > :17:48.on to the course a few moments ago. The reason she's favourite, it's a

:17:48. > :17:55.combination of form. She won a week ago. It's because of Frankie, who

:17:55. > :18:00.you can see here and appreciate his horsemanship and balance. And it's

:18:00. > :18:05.the record of Saeed bin Suroor, this would be his sixth success.

:18:05. > :18:09.The other thing it shows you is her muscle definition and her tongue

:18:09. > :18:13.which is over the bit. Frankie didn't want to go that way, but

:18:14. > :18:18.he's getting taken. He's going the right way to the start, which is a

:18:18. > :18:28.good thing, but they are supposed to do a bit of a parade beforehand.

:18:28. > :18:30.

:18:30. > :18:35.She looks pretty relaxed there now. She's a nice, big lengthy filly by

:18:35. > :18:40.Munson. He gets horses that stay very well and I would imagine the

:18:40. > :18:50.rain will not hinder her in any way. She's coming off the back of a very

:18:50. > :18:59.

:18:59. > :19:04.good run of a listed race at Newbury. She won in good style.

:19:04. > :19:11.Banimpire has a round tummy. She's a strong little barrel things.

:19:11. > :19:15.She's got a tummy there, yes, but possibly it's the way she's made

:19:15. > :19:20.and... She's run plenty of time this is year, won't be lacking for

:19:20. > :19:25.fitness? She's taken her racing well. You see that strip going down

:19:25. > :19:30.the side, the padded strips with the leather. That's where, in the

:19:30. > :19:34.stalls, there is an area where jockeys can stand off about three

:19:34. > :19:38.foot high from the ground and sometimes the horses don't like

:19:38. > :19:42.touching them. Kieren Fallon gets to ride on Zain

:19:42. > :19:46.Al Boldan who ran disappointingly in the Oaks. She's tiny. She had

:19:46. > :19:50.her tail absolutely clamped in, trying to protect her bottom from

:19:50. > :19:53.the win and rain, she wasn't enjoying it. It's stopped raining

:19:53. > :19:57.now. Kieren Fallon, there was a lot of reaction to the interview he

:19:57. > :20:00.gave us yesterday and the fact that he's made it up with the owners,

:20:00. > :20:05.native Khan, but George Osborney Murtagh's been booked to ride that

:20:05. > :20:11.horse in the Irish Derby. That's where we'll see that combination

:20:11. > :20:16.next. Zain Al Boldan has a chance in this. Reports after from the

:20:16. > :20:20.Jockies after the first race, some saying the ground is soft, some

:20:20. > :20:30.saying good-to-soft. It's stopped raining now and Rumh is going

:20:30. > :20:30.

:20:30. > :20:37.forward with the others. A good punch of fillies. Banimpire and

:20:37. > :20:42.Rumh Banimpire clear favourite in fact.

:20:42. > :20:47.Kieren Fallon coming forward now on Zain Al Boldan. This filly was very

:20:47. > :20:56.impressive at Lingfield and ran no race at Epsom. She didn't have a

:20:56. > :21:00.chance. He's won these stakes before. Ready for the Ribblesdale

:21:01. > :21:07.and they're racing and Sunday Bess first to begin down the inside,

:21:07. > :21:12.going fast too, Make My Heart Sing, hugging the rail. Wider out is Rumh

:21:13. > :21:17.with the nose band. Musharakaat is there as well. Widest in the yellow

:21:17. > :21:25.cap. Field Of Miracles wider still in the red, white and blue of

:21:25. > :21:31.Cheveley Park. Creme Anglaise. Arizona Jewel. Down hill toward the

:21:31. > :21:40.mile now. Cosing over Field Of Miracles. -- crossing over.

:21:40. > :21:48.Musharakaat. Make My Heart Sing. Creme Anglaise. Highest. Arizona

:21:48. > :21:52.Jewel. On her inside, Banimpire, hugging the rail. In the centre is

:21:52. > :22:00.Rumh. Further back in the field, Look At Me. Second last at this

:22:00. > :22:03.stage or third last, Look At Me. Dorcas Lane back. The pace is good

:22:03. > :22:09.and set by Field Of Miracles as they come out of Swindley Bottom.

:22:09. > :22:15.Leads by a length and a half. From up there on the inside at this

:22:15. > :22:24.point, Sunday Bess and Musharakaat. Creme Anglaise and Make My Heart

:22:24. > :22:28.Sing. Highest is very wide. Rumh out wider. The Royal blue colours

:22:28. > :22:33.of Godolphin. Toward the half mile now. Field Of Miracles from

:22:33. > :22:39.Musharakaat and Highest deepest of all. Behind them, Creme Anglaise,

:22:39. > :22:44.coming under pressure, Rumh as well. Followed by Banimpire. Sunday Bess

:22:44. > :22:48.has gone. Followed by Look At Me. Dorcas Lane, Arizona Jewel is well

:22:48. > :22:55.back. Zain Al Boldan an eight length start. Into the home

:22:55. > :22:59.straight. Field Of Miracles the leader. Leads by two lengths to

:22:59. > :23:03.Rumh giving chase. Banimpire putting in the giant strides now.

:23:03. > :23:08.They're well clear and Dorcas Lane running a big race. Field Of

:23:08. > :23:12.Miracles slipped away. Two-and-a- half lengths clear of Banimpire. A

:23:12. > :23:18.long gap to Dorcas Lane and further back, Look At Me. Up there with a

:23:18. > :23:26.furlong and a half to go, it's Field Of Miracles, the danger is

:23:26. > :23:30.Banimpire, inch by inch getting there. Half a furlong to go. Field

:23:30. > :23:37.Of Miracles. Banimpire on the outside get ahead. Field Of

:23:37. > :23:42.Miracles coming back, but Banimpire just getting it in a close photo

:23:42. > :23:51.from Field Of Miracles on the inside. In third, Dorcas Lane,

:23:51. > :23:57.followed by Look At Me. Then Zain Al Boldan from Rumh. Musharakaat

:23:57. > :24:03.next. Make My Heart Sing. Arizona Jewel. Behind them is Creme

:24:03. > :24:07.Anglaise. Here it is. This is unofficial, don't forget, but

:24:07. > :24:12.Banimpire on the evidence of that has got there by about a half head,

:24:12. > :24:17.a short head that will be officially. So Banimpire is the

:24:17. > :24:25.winner from Field Of Miracles, but we'll wait for the judge. In third

:24:25. > :24:31.is Dorcas Lane, in fourth, Look At Me. In fifth, we see Zain Al Boldan

:24:31. > :24:36.who gave them too big a start again today. Rumh is behind them. Look at

:24:36. > :24:41.how far there is between each horse. There's the official photo.

:24:41. > :24:51.Banimpire has won it for Jim Bolger, Jackie Bolger and also Kevin

:24:51. > :24:52.

:24:52. > :24:56.Manning. There she is, this filly, as we wait for the official

:24:56. > :25:01.announcement. It is official. It has been called, Banimpire is the

:25:01. > :25:06.winner, and that is this filly's fifth win of the season. What a

:25:06. > :25:09.performance, what a trainer this man is.

:25:09. > :25:13.This was an exceptional race to watch because Richard Hughes judged

:25:13. > :25:18.the pace so well in front on Field Of Miracles, he had everybody else

:25:18. > :25:21.at it, turning for home. You will have seen Kevin Manning on the head

:25:21. > :25:26.shot, pulled down a set of goggles to leave himself clear with the

:25:26. > :25:32.next set and he sets off here in pursuit of Field Of Miracles. He's

:25:32. > :25:36.got three, four lengths to make up and starts closing down the leader,

:25:36. > :25:40.closing down with every stride and gets in front, goes about a neck up

:25:40. > :25:44.and then, Richard Hughes's filly, Field Of Miracles, fights back at

:25:45. > :25:49.Banimpire. It really is a good finish here, Willie. People were

:25:49. > :25:53.screaming and shouting. Both horses were supported, but it's the

:25:53. > :25:58.favourite that a lot of people piled in on. Jim Bolger, successful

:25:58. > :26:04.again and, my gosh, haven't they got an awful lot of well bred

:26:04. > :26:13.horses now? They have. She comes back a bit again. Right on the line,

:26:13. > :26:19.a mile and a half race. This rain we had this morning's made... "come

:26:19. > :26:24.on Kevin" she's saying! Look how cool Jim is, he doesn't say a word,

:26:24. > :26:28.his expression doesn't change at all. Great to have a winner here at

:26:28. > :26:33.Ascot. The sixth Royal Ascot win. The interesting thing, you said

:26:33. > :26:39.she's got a bit of a tummy. You know when she last ran, don't you,

:26:39. > :26:43.four days ago on Sunday at Cork. Amazing. She must take her racing

:26:43. > :26:47.well because she doesn't look like a filly who's run up light or

:26:47. > :26:50.anything. Had a hard time, well a busy time. But, as you can see

:26:50. > :26:57.there, it doesn't make any difference. She's still ran all the

:26:57. > :27:01.way to the line. I think possibly Richard Hughes was just getting a

:27:01. > :27:07.bit extra near the finish, might have saved that little bit because

:27:07. > :27:14.he came back. He's only beaten her by a short head. This filly,

:27:14. > :27:18.they've got to be willing partners on the ground. Are you looking at

:27:18. > :27:21.the stick? Looking at Kevin Manning and the position because there are

:27:22. > :27:29.lots of rules, not just frequency and force, but where you hit the

:27:29. > :27:32.horse as well. That's because the rules are, or the guidelines say,

:27:32. > :27:35.you mustn't lift your arm above shoulder height and this's totally

:27:36. > :27:38.wrong, you should be able to get your arm up high and hit the horse

:27:38. > :27:43.on the top of the rump where it doesn't hurt them. They're hitting

:27:43. > :27:51.it in the softest part of the whole body, it's the rules or the

:27:51. > :28:01.guidelines which are wrong. So Kevin Manning coming back here

:28:01. > :28:06.

:28:06. > :28:15.after winning this Ribblesdale Kevin Manning can look forward to a

:28:15. > :28:23.good day tomorrow as well. They have Tio Lane in the Abbany Stakes.

:28:23. > :28:31.Also, they have Clive soch olish in the Coronation Stakes -- Solish.

:28:31. > :28:38.Look at the time as well, 2.37.06, that's over ten seconds outside the

:28:38. > :28:43.record. Sot it has got into the ground, no doubt about that. The

:28:43. > :28:49.distances are a short head and seven lengths and Banimpire, she's

:28:49. > :28:59.a really good filly, no doubt about that. Jim Bolger and Jackie Bolger

:28:59. > :29:03.

:29:03. > :29:11.there. And there we see this filly. The filly will no doubt be visiting

:29:11. > :29:18.one of the stallions in which Jim has nominations. A couple of really

:29:18. > :29:22.good ones recently that have gone to stud. Both sold to Sheikh

:29:22. > :29:32.Mohammed's Darley operation. But there is the winner of the

:29:32. > :29:41.

:29:41. > :29:47.Ribblesdale Stakes. We'll check the are about half hour away from the

:29:47. > :29:51.Gold Cup and the big boys will come out to play here on Fame And Glory.

:29:51. > :29:58.This horse could start less than 2- 1 there'll be fortunes for Fame And

:29:58. > :30:05.Glory, half hour to go to the biggie, the gold cup, can't wait.

:30:05. > :30:10.Jim Bolger, the winning trairn is with me. Four days ago she won her

:30:10. > :30:18.Group. -- the winning trainer. What were the signs that showed you she

:30:19. > :30:23.was ready for Ascot? After she won at Cork, that was the plan. We used

:30:23. > :30:27.Cork instead of giving her a blow- out at home. I've done it before

:30:28. > :30:32.and done it successfully. All she does anyway is eat and sleep so the

:30:32. > :30:35.only time she exerts herself is on a racecourse.

:30:35. > :30:40.She stays very well. The way the race unfolded with a strong gallop

:30:40. > :30:44.in that ground has worked in her favour, I presume? Not really with

:30:44. > :30:47.the preferred good ground, she didn't handle it too well but got

:30:47. > :30:52.there any way. She's very courageous and gutsy and stuck at

:30:53. > :30:58.it. Have you a long-term plan? we have, yes, probably find her

:30:58. > :31:05.racing between now and the Irish Oaks. After that, we might do what

:31:05. > :31:12.the French do, give her a break and have her back for the race at

:31:12. > :31:16.Longchamp. The winning jockey alongside us. Kevin, has to be a

:31:16. > :31:19.toughilyy -- tough filly to do what she did today? Very tough and

:31:19. > :31:24.improving all the time. The ground maybe wasn't ideal for her. I

:31:24. > :31:28.travelled well and asked her to quick foreign the home straight.

:31:28. > :31:33.She usually shows me more turn of foot, but the ground, she wasn't as

:31:33. > :31:36.effective on it. Did you think it would be hard to peg back? The turn

:31:36. > :31:41.of foot she has, I thought she would pick up and I didn't pick up

:31:41. > :31:47.as well as I thought. I put it down to the ground. Can you describe the

:31:47. > :31:51.ground? I thought it was loose, riding slow. I thought down the

:31:51. > :32:01.back and across the bottom, before the turn in, I thought it was

:32:01. > :32:02.

:32:02. > :32:06.Stakes. To start with a couple didn't really go. Here is Richard

:32:06. > :32:11.Hughes. You will see he goes around the outside. He is trying to get

:32:11. > :32:15.into position, but the Abdulla horse, they never were really at

:32:15. > :32:19.the races today. They made hard work of it. Arizona

:32:19. > :32:23.Jewel was never at the race. Tom Queally off the bridle from the

:32:23. > :32:29.minute he jumped off. Early on there, is, about a furlong

:32:29. > :32:33.into it. The the winner you will see in the white jacket and she is

:32:33. > :32:36.about to get snatched up. She is there. This is only about 15

:32:36. > :32:41.seconds on into the race and we will see this is when they get
