:01:13. > :01:16.
:01:16. > :01:20.We have seen success so far in the Ribble deal's stake.
:01:20. > :01:28.The presentation was made by a model, who has been on the front
:01:28. > :01:33.cover of voyage and is the face of channel. Or was the face of it.
:01:33. > :01:38.The winning owner. Jim Bolger on the left. They have a
:01:38. > :01:44.huge breeding operation. I don't want to be crash in mentioning
:01:44. > :01:50.money, but -- cras in mentioning money. They bred the winner of the
:01:50. > :01:55.Derby a few years ago. They sold him to Sheik Mohammed.
:01:55. > :02:03.He gave him as a present. He must have made millions out of breeding.
:02:03. > :02:10.Yoz you say, we mustn't talk about money. He has made wagons loads.
:02:10. > :02:14.Here is Fame And Glory. He was such a classy horse as a two and three
:02:14. > :02:21.year old. It is interesting that they have picked him to follow in
:02:21. > :02:27.the footsteps of Yates. He will try and be their staying champion.
:02:27. > :02:31.Don't forget Yates won the coronation cup before he went on to
:02:31. > :02:41.a cup campaign in marathon distances. Fame And Glory won the
:02:41. > :02:41.
:02:41. > :02:46.Coronation Cup last year. It is a good precursor to a career in long-
:02:46. > :02:50.distance races. Aidan O'Brien, he was criticising himself saying he
:02:50. > :02:58.thought he had left So You Think undercooked.
:02:58. > :03:02.If he stays, he wibs. -- wins. Joining me is Catherine
:03:02. > :03:06.Elizabeth, who is currently making a hat for us, live on the BBC. How
:03:06. > :03:12.is it going? Very good. So far we have all the feathers together. I
:03:12. > :03:17.have stripped them and curled them into this section. That big ostrich
:03:17. > :03:22.feather you saw earlier on. We have curled that around. The pheasant
:03:22. > :03:32.feather also. We have the other pheasant feathers too. A Guinea
:03:32. > :03:37.foul feather on the top. The clock is ticking. Some lovely ladies. You
:03:37. > :03:40.will have seen Paula before over the years. Always you dress so
:03:40. > :03:45.beautifully for Ascot. How tricky is it? Normally a last-minute thing
:03:45. > :03:55.for me. This year, more organised. I managed to pick out my outfit in
:03:55. > :03:56.
:03:56. > :04:01.the January season. What are you wearing? I am wearing Wren Scot on
:04:01. > :04:11.the bottom and a Stephen Jones hat. And then are you girls friends
:04:11. > :04:13.
:04:13. > :04:19.together? No. We just met. Talk us through what you are wearing? A far
:04:20. > :04:24.dire Freeman hat. Are you happy with the weather?
:04:24. > :04:30.has stopped raining. How can you not enjoy a day like today?
:04:30. > :04:35.Who is here? What I want to say is these ladies are my cup of tea. Not
:04:35. > :04:40.only has she used the hat to her advantage, but it is that marriage
:04:40. > :04:45.of hair. When you wear hats it is important to bring it up, show off
:04:45. > :04:49.that beautiful swan-like neck line. If you wear a hat and have long
:04:49. > :04:55.hair you should always wear your hair up and off your face? I would
:04:55. > :04:59.advise that. It brings out the hat. You have short bobbed hair. It is
:04:59. > :05:03.showing that feature. If you have long hair, my advice is sweep it
:05:03. > :05:08.down, maybe to one side. It gives that lovely photographic silhouette.
:05:08. > :05:14.That is really important as well. There are lots of tips I could
:05:14. > :05:19.spend on it. We are only here for a short time. The girls look spot-on.
:05:19. > :05:22.These feathers. We have seen quite a few fantastic feathers. It is
:05:22. > :05:27.actually burnt ostrich feather. You can do a technique where you dye
:05:27. > :05:30.them and do acid burning as well. They are great. These originate
:05:30. > :05:33.from the ostrich from Africa. You have many things to do. You can
:05:33. > :05:40.strip them back and have that lovely quill. You can do this
:05:40. > :05:45.effect. I think it is great. It gives a lovely shroud. It works
:05:45. > :05:52.beautifully. Continue to enjoy your wonderful Ascot day. See you later.
:05:52. > :06:02.Just being saddled up is Blue Bajan. His trainer David O 'Meara there.
:06:02. > :06:04.
:06:04. > :06:10.He is bidding to be the first 13- year-old since 1902.
:06:10. > :06:16.-- first winner of the race. We are at the stables at the foot
:06:16. > :06:22.of the North Yorkshire Moors. Having a look at one of racing's
:06:22. > :06:32.seasoned campaigners, Blue Bajan. Can his trainer and his young rider
:06:32. > :06:33.
:06:34. > :06:38.master mind Gold Cup success? You have a really great
:06:38. > :06:44.relationship with Danny. You've had a terrific year. How do you think
:06:44. > :06:47.Danny will handle the big day? problem. Danny's more competent.
:06:47. > :06:51.He's a good jockey. He knows the horse. He has huge confidence. No
:06:51. > :06:56.problems at all. We have the right man on board. Blue Bajan - what is
:06:57. > :07:03.he like as a horse to ride? He's a great ride. He's a nine-year-old.
:07:03. > :07:08.He does not feel that at all. Big baby. It feels like he's ready to
:07:08. > :07:13.David has a new lifeline since coming here. He seems to be
:07:13. > :07:18.improving. After more than a year out with a tendon injury Blue Bajan
:07:18. > :07:23.followed up to six nth the Chester Cup and second in the Yorkshire Cup
:07:23. > :07:26.with a career win in the stakes last month. He was going three
:07:26. > :07:31.furlongs out. Probably could have done with
:07:31. > :07:34.something taking a bit fuller. I got there too soon really. It must
:07:34. > :07:39.have been pleasing to see him quicken away from his field then?
:07:39. > :07:44.It was. I think the two-and-a-half mile at Ascot will suit him better.
:07:44. > :07:48.He's one horse in the race that is guaranteed to stay. Does he have a
:07:48. > :07:52.preference to ground? It was soft that day at Sandown. If it is soft
:07:52. > :07:55.at Ascot, then it would not be a problem. Maybe better, if anything.
:07:55. > :08:03.The opposition in the race, obviously you have beaten one or
:08:03. > :08:08.two of the races -- horses in there? Fame And Glory could be the
:08:08. > :08:12.next Yates. Then you have Duncan, who beat us half a length at York.
:08:12. > :08:17.I would not be afraid to take Duncan on again. Then you have
:08:17. > :08:26.Holiday For Kitten, who started up there as third favourite, who --
:08:27. > :08:32.then we have Holberg, what started up there as third favourite.
:08:32. > :08:36.What is he like in the yard, Blue Bajan? He's a lovely horse. He
:08:36. > :08:39.mingles in the background. He makes a big impact. He's easy to deal
:08:40. > :08:45.with. Everyone gets on with him. He's a pleasure to have. How would
:08:45. > :08:49.it feel to you, as a trainer, to get hold of that Ascot Gold Cup?
:08:49. > :08:53.often wanted to win, I thought it would be the Cheltenham. That would
:08:53. > :08:58.be fantastic. It would be great for the owners. They've bred this horse,
:08:58. > :09:03.I mean, they love him to bits. It would be great for them. The Gold
:09:03. > :09:07.Cup. Do you dare to dream you would win the race? Not really. I cannot
:09:08. > :09:12.sleep at nights already. That would just be an amazing feeling.
:09:12. > :09:16.You know, every jockey wants to have a Group One winner at Royal
:09:16. > :09:20.Ascot. This is my chance. I might not get another chance like
:09:20. > :09:27.this again. I think I've got a great ride in the race and I
:09:27. > :09:34.wouldn't swap him for anything. What a great opportunity it is.
:09:35. > :09:43.Here he is, Blue Bajan. This is the day itself.
:09:44. > :09:47.He's been saddled there by David O 'Meara.
:09:47. > :09:54.Danny Tudhope, there he is. He's looking forward to the biggest ride
:09:54. > :10:03.of his career. What a moment for him! I am joined by Mick fits
:10:03. > :10:08.Gerald who will look at this -- Fitzgerald.
:10:08. > :10:12.He looks relaxed. He must have run this race through his mind millions
:10:13. > :10:16.of times. He would have done that. When you are a young jockey, to
:10:16. > :10:22.have a big ride in a big race, there is no bigger than the Gold
:10:22. > :10:27.Cup. For him it will be a dream come true. We have a horse in here
:10:28. > :10:33.who is a class horse, Fame And Glory. Yates did it. He was a
:10:33. > :10:37.favourite for the Derby. He has been runner up in a Derby, a
:10:37. > :10:43.Coronation Cup winner. Stamina has to kick in today, doesn't it?
:10:43. > :10:46.does have to kick in. He has a great man on his back, Jamie
:10:46. > :10:56.Spencer. We will look at this in more detail
:10:56. > :10:56.
:10:56. > :11:00.later on. Here's the course. We take off. Two-and-a-half miles.
:11:00. > :11:05.Up to the judge. You see the big Grandstand on the left there as
:11:05. > :11:11.they come up. Then they swing sharply right-handed and a mile-
:11:11. > :11:16.and-a-half to go. You can almost let them free-wheel. This is where
:11:16. > :11:23.he said the ground was at the worst. It will take a good one to get home
:11:23. > :11:33.here. Jamie will hope Fame And Glory has plenty up his sleeve.
:11:33. > :11:52.
:11:52. > :12:00.it's come. I have seen some gambles in my time. I've been part of one
:12:00. > :12:05.of them. This could be the biggest gamble ever. I said they would take
:12:06. > :12:09.2-1. 13-8 has gone. It is 6-4. The way they're going this could start
:12:09. > :12:15.even money. There is fortunes for this horse. I have never seen money
:12:15. > :12:19.like this in my life for one horse at Royal Ascot.
:12:19. > :12:27.Willie and I are having a look at the horses in the paddock. Fame And
:12:27. > :12:32.Glory. I just mention briefly that Aidan O'Brien thought he could have
:12:32. > :12:36.made him fitter. I don't think there is any doubt that this horse
:12:36. > :12:40.will be as fit as he can get him today. He's had a couple of runs
:12:41. > :12:47.this season and the fact this is going to be a truly exacting test
:12:47. > :12:55.of his stamina. It is a true test of stamina because of the rain, it
:12:55. > :12:59.confirmed front-runner. He likes soft ground. He will go his own
:12:59. > :13:04.pace. It will make a test for everything in the race. Now Fame
:13:04. > :13:14.And Glory, he is a horse with tremendous class.
:13:14. > :13:14.
:13:14. > :13:19.A Coronation Stakes.... Coronation Cup., Cup - sorry.
:13:19. > :13:25.He ran a tremendous race in the Arc last year. The reason he is running
:13:25. > :13:29.in the Gold Cup is they have so many good mile and a half horses at
:13:29. > :13:37.ballly doil. I would like to -- Ballydoyle.
:13:37. > :13:47.I would like to point this one out. Opinion Poll. He is a full horse.
:13:47. > :13:48.
:13:48. > :13:52.You know, he's a five year old. Smallish horse. Very compact. I
:13:52. > :13:56.don't think you should look for so much muscle in a two-and-a-half
:13:56. > :14:00.mile race. He used to be with Michael Jarvis. What he needs is
:14:00. > :14:05.soft ground. He'll get it today. Definitely. You don't think he has
:14:05. > :14:11.a big chance? I'm not saying anything. You're the one that's
:14:11. > :14:15.giving him a big chance. I would rather prefer others instead.
:14:15. > :14:25.else? Fame And Glory is a class horse in the race. And of course
:14:25. > :14:27.
:14:27. > :14:35.you have Kasbah Bliss. He has been around the world a bit. He is a
:14:36. > :14:43.gelding.... A big hurdler? He has run at Cheltenham. His stamina - he
:14:43. > :14:49.will stay. That is what you have to do today, you have to stay the trip.
:14:49. > :14:55.Let's have a wander around this packed paddock. It is a big field
:14:55. > :14:59.for this Gold Cup. Kieran Fallon talking here.
:14:59. > :15:05.Just over here, this is not relevant to this race, but just, I
:15:05. > :15:10.know you'll be interested if you are watching, Elizabeth Hurley,
:15:10. > :15:13.getting a kiss there. She has a share in a thorough bred horse
:15:13. > :15:19.running later. Down here in the Gold Cup, because I imagine she
:15:19. > :15:24.wants to get a look at the runners. The Ballydoyle camp over here. It
:15:24. > :15:30.is interesting that the owners who have bought into this horse, again
:15:30. > :15:40.we saw them in the royal procession earlier. Gorge Middleton talking to
:15:40. > :15:49.Georgina Andrews. We will cut through. If I can find
:15:49. > :15:54.Bliss. Used to be a long-distance hurdler, now is restricted to
:15:54. > :15:59.running on the flat. He's a very good horse. Soft ground.
:15:59. > :16:03.He has got form on ground which has soft in it. I wonder if.... Are you
:16:03. > :16:07.happy with everything with Kasbah Bliss? I'm happy with preparation
:16:07. > :16:11.and happy with the morale of the horse. Not quite happy about your
:16:11. > :16:17.English weather! I would have done without it. The horse has got a
:16:17. > :16:20.chance like everyone. He's a hard fighter. He's a superstar. He's
:16:20. > :16:27.nine years old now. On the ground, I tell you some people who are
:16:27. > :16:31.unhappy about it, Judy The Beauty, fancied for tomorrow, she has been
:16:31. > :16:37.taken out because of the ground having turned to the soft side.
:16:37. > :16:46.Another non-runner is Hinchin. We have happened upon the Fame And
:16:46. > :16:51.Glory team. Jamie Spencer, who has a contract to ride the horses
:16:51. > :16:56.ridden by this lady here. How did you enjoy the royal procession?
:16:56. > :17:01.want to do it again! I suspect you and your husband, you would like to
:17:01. > :17:06.win the Gold Cup? I hope so. I pray to God. I hope so.
:17:06. > :17:11.Jim, explain to me, if you don't mind, Fame And Glory, whose
:17:11. > :17:15.decision was it to start to test him out on longer distances? Aidan,
:17:15. > :17:21.Derek Smith. The whole team, the whole team. We are lucky to be a
:17:21. > :17:25.big part of it. It is an interesting new adventure for you?
:17:25. > :17:29.The Ascot Gold Cup. It is the dream race to be in. We think we've the
:17:30. > :17:34.right horse to do it. We wish you well as well. He is a hot favourite.
:17:34. > :17:38.You look fantastic. That is a stunning hat. She says she would
:17:38. > :17:44.love to do the royal procession all over again, given the chance.
:17:44. > :17:48.Everybody looks terribly smart. You do see the best outfits here. This
:17:48. > :17:52.fella here, just explain Mr Ward how many horses you train at home
:17:52. > :17:57.in Ireland and the set-up you have there? I have four horses in
:17:57. > :18:03.training. I have a restricted license. It allows me four horses.
:18:03. > :18:10.I mainly am a sheep farmerer. I keep a lot of sheep.
:18:10. > :18:14.We enjoy our horses. She won here last year. Wants to come back for a
:18:14. > :18:19.race of this calibre. There's little staying handicaps in Ireland.
:18:19. > :18:25.We are looking at Fictional Account. Your filly now. You have run her at
:18:25. > :18:30.Ascot. She does not like the travelling much. She's a bad
:18:30. > :18:34.traveller. We -- actually she travelled well this year. Travel is
:18:34. > :18:40.not my worry today. The worry today is the ground will be dead, you
:18:40. > :18:44.know. We'll take our chance. If she runs like the way she ran in
:18:44. > :18:48.Leopardstown she should be all right. She is owned by a sinty date.
:18:48. > :18:54.Here they all are. This is -- syndicate. Here they are all. How
:18:54. > :18:58.much would it mean for her to put up a big performance today? Such a
:18:58. > :19:02.small stable. A small syndicate. It would mean everything to us. It is
:19:03. > :19:07.a great pleasure to be here. We hope, the weather has turned bad
:19:07. > :19:12.for us. If she's in the first four, we'll be very happy. I am happy
:19:12. > :19:17.with the tie, which co-ordinates with your colours. Deliberate, I
:19:17. > :19:22.assume. I had to go to Sweden to get this Thai. Did you? Couldn't --
:19:22. > :19:25.to get this tie. Did you? Couldn't get it in England or
:19:25. > :19:30.Ireland. The best of luck to the Fictional Account. It is one of
:19:30. > :19:36.those stories you normally only hear in a book of faction. A guy
:19:36. > :19:41.with 300 sheep. Four horses. Friends and families who help out,
:19:41. > :19:44.has a horse in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. We have just watched
:19:45. > :19:50.Tastahil. I thought you said it's an old
:19:50. > :19:54.man's ride. It is, isn't it. He's a lovely horse. He's coming in great
:19:54. > :19:58.form N summary, which are the horses in the paddock you like?
:19:58. > :20:03.Tastahil is one. He looked really relaxed. Of course we know he'll
:20:03. > :20:06.like the ground. He likes the distapbsz. He's unfortunately a --
:20:06. > :20:16.distance. He's unfortunately a front-runner. Fame And Glory, he
:20:16. > :20:18.
:20:18. > :20:23.looks a fantastic, you know, horse. Here we go for the Mr Raid -- for
:20:23. > :20:31.the parade for the Gold Cup. The parade is led by Aaim To Prosper.
:20:31. > :20:37.The horse's owner came over and said "We hope he runs well." Then
:20:38. > :20:41.we have Askar Tau. A very Lean jockey on board. He won here in
:20:41. > :20:47.April. Then we have Blue Bajan. You know all about him if you saw the
:20:47. > :20:52.feature. This horse, second in the Yorkshire
:20:52. > :20:58.Cup, behind Duncan. Here is Duncan n the pink colours.
:20:58. > :21:02.William Buick on board. He's never been on a trip as far as this. He's
:21:02. > :21:12.talented. He has his own ideas about racing. William will need to
:21:12. > :21:19.be at his coaxing best. He likes it here at Ascot. 8-11. Fame And Glory.
:21:19. > :21:28.Class, class, class. He's a four- time Group One winner. He yet could
:21:29. > :21:33.be in the mould of Yates. This horsz, Geordieland was third to him
:21:33. > :21:36.once. It will be the training performance of the lifetime if he
:21:36. > :21:43.could get Geordieland to win the Gold Cup. Then we have Holberg, who
:21:43. > :21:48.won the Queen's vase at this meeting in 2009. Now in with the
:21:48. > :21:53.Godolphin camp. Then Kasbah Bliss. You heard that the owner didn't
:21:53. > :21:59.like the English weather. You know he will stay. He has a turn of foot.
:21:59. > :22:03.Manighar. Kieran Fallon fancies the chances of this horse. He will let
:22:04. > :22:08.him canter on down. Opinion Poll, a lot of money for this horse this
:22:08. > :22:18.morning when the rain was falling. Then we have Tastahil, who won the
:22:18. > :22:19.
:22:19. > :22:29.jockey cup at Newmarket. That's Fictional Account. That's Motrice.
:22:29. > :22:42.
:22:42. > :22:47.The only one we didn't really see revolve around whether Fame And
:22:47. > :22:52.Glory will prove as effective over today's marathon trip of two-and-a-
:22:52. > :22:56.half miles as he has over a mile shorter. The rest will struggle to
:22:56. > :23:00.lower his colours. It's a competitive race. The trip is an
:23:00. > :23:03.unknown. We will not know until he gets into that last six furlongs
:23:03. > :23:09.whether he'll stay or not. He's a lovely horse to ride. Really
:23:09. > :23:12.looking forward it to. If he doesn't then Blue Bajan could take
:23:12. > :23:16.advantage. This nine-year-old seemed better than ever when
:23:16. > :23:21.winning at Sandown last time around and could give his trainer a dream
:23:21. > :23:25.day with his second Royal Ascot winner. Duncan defeated Blue Bajan
:23:25. > :23:28.at York. The question mark over this six year old, is Fame And
:23:28. > :23:32.Glory, will he see out today's distance, especially given the
:23:32. > :23:40.conditions will be tougher now there's been some rain. He's got
:23:40. > :23:43.good speed for a horse that stays, as we know, as -- so far. Whether
:23:43. > :23:47.he'll get the last four furlongs is another thing. Holberg is the

:23:56. > :24:00.There is a positive for Dettori's rejected runner Opinion Poll.
:24:00. > :24:05.Formally smart in his native France Manighar has yet to win a race in
:24:05. > :24:10.Britain. He ran a series of good races last year. He was not far
:24:10. > :24:15.behind Duncan last month at York. He beat me by a short head. On that
:24:15. > :24:20.occasion he got first run at me. I think I would have beaten him. He
:24:20. > :24:25.went on to win the Melbourne Cup. Tastahil was well beaten in this 12
:24:25. > :24:30.months ago but comes into the race on the back of one of his best ever
:24:30. > :24:34.runs. He is expected to do better this time around. And there's the
:24:34. > :24:39.old favourite Kasbah Bliss. He is not as potent as he was once at the
:24:39. > :24:42.age of nine. But he is still capable of smart form and should
:24:42. > :24:47.enjoy the moisture in the ground. Fame And Glory is the top-rated
:24:47. > :24:54.horse in this. The equation seems simple e,, if he stays, he wins,
:24:54. > :25:04.but we know, nothing is that simple. So Fame And Glory, all in the ring
:25:04. > :25:11.
:25:11. > :25:16.Richard Power here on the boards. Richard, the favourite, Fame And
:25:16. > :25:20.Glory. You were the biggest price this morning. You are the father of
:25:20. > :25:25.Paddy Power. Have you ever seen a gamble like this? It has been huge.
:25:25. > :25:31.It went 9-4 on track here. They have taken every price. Every price
:25:31. > :25:36.down to 5-4. The other side of me I have Geoff Banks, you will remember
:25:36. > :25:41.his father. 11-8 is favourite. You have laid it at 2-16789 you are

:25:49. > :25:54.this wins. Ladbrokes cannot stop backing this horse. 2-1. 13-8. 6-4.
:25:54. > :26:00.Now 11-8. It has not stopped. That's Geoff Banks there. He's a
:26:00. > :26:04.brave, brave man. He really is. Here's the Gold Cup. The oldest
:26:04. > :26:08.race here. 1807 it was first run. It has a special run in people's

:26:17. > :26:20.handsome horse. He is venturing in the unknown here. We have seen
:26:20. > :26:26.classy horses coming here before and doing it. So long as he relaxes
:26:26. > :26:31.and switches off. He has the class and, the distance, well the soft
:26:31. > :26:36.ground will be the biggest danger to him. That would drag on his

:26:48. > :26:55.Geordieland going in. Richard Hughes there. A really good...
:26:55. > :27:03.There's Blue Bajan. Ran a hell of a race at Sandown. Fame And Glory

:27:27. > :27:32.the inside Fame And Glory began best of all. Still reigned in. Down
:27:32. > :27:36.near the inside Holberg going on from Manighar. Here is Tastahil,

:28:07. > :28:13.Askar Tau. They continue their journey up the home straight on the

:28:17. > :28:22.Followed by Brigantin. Motrice on the outside of Blue Bajan. Opinion
:28:22. > :28:25.Poll, with the white cap. Further back Geordieland in company with
:28:25. > :28:31.Fictional Account. Last is The Betchworth Kid, as they continue
:28:31. > :28:37.their journey up the home straight. Tastahil setting a fair gallop.
:28:37. > :28:43.thing with this horse is he loves to get into a rhythm. Right at the

:29:16. > :29:20.on the track is Geordieland. Improving now from Manighar and
:29:20. > :29:26.Kasbah Bliss. A length to Askar Tau.
:29:26. > :29:29.Further back Brigantin. Four horses behind him, Motrice is one of them,
:29:29. > :29:35.Opinion Poll another. Further back Fictional Account and The
:29:35. > :29:42.Betchworth Kid. Whips them in as they run past the mile-and-a-half.
:29:42. > :29:50.Tastahil the leader by three lengths. Holberg still tucked away.
:29:50. > :29:57.Geordieland is widest of all, as they run down now towards the mile.
:29:57. > :30:04.Fame And Glory tucked away, racing a little keepblly. Followed by --
:30:04. > :30:10.keenly. Opinion Poll is second last. Last is Fictional Account.
:30:10. > :30:14.Body language tells you Jamie Spencer, he has not moved a muscle.
:30:14. > :30:18.He is sitting as quiet as a mouse at the moment.

:30:57. > :31:02.On the outside Duncan. Duncan has moved up to take the lead. So
:31:02. > :31:07.Duncan takes it up. Geordieland has dropped right out. So Duncan kicks
:31:08. > :31:13.on here by a length-and-a-half. Aaim To Prosper on the inside of
:31:13. > :31:16.Manighar. A length away then is Askar Tau. Followed on the inside

:31:33. > :31:38.Fame And Glory. Two furlongs left to go. It's Fame And Glory who is
:31:38. > :31:44.racing up on the outside. Grabs the lead now. He bursts away from them.
:31:44. > :31:47.Goes a length-and-a-half in front. Duncan battles in. Followed by

:32:29. > :32:35.
:32:35. > :32:40.And walking across the line, Gold Cup. He won it it by three
:32:40. > :32:46.lengths from Opinion Poll. Flashing home for third, Brigantin. Just
:32:46. > :32:51.ahead of Manighar in fourth. In fifth, Askar Tau. Top of the screen
:32:51. > :32:58.there, Duncan. Just below him is Kasbah Bliss. They were followed
:32:59. > :33:06.then by by Aaim To Prosper and then a gap of five lengths or so,
:33:06. > :33:14.Motrice. There followed then by Blue Bajan and then a long gap.
:33:14. > :33:18.Still another five behind them so you can see how strung out they are.
:33:18. > :33:22.This is The Betchworth Kid and another couple walk across the line.
:33:22. > :33:28.In the end, class did tell, and even in the conditions it was Fame
:33:28. > :33:31.And Glory. This horse had run second to Sea the Stars in a derby.
:33:31. > :33:34.He has come out here and won an Ascot Gold Cup and the class really
:33:34. > :33:39.did show. When Jamie Spencer made his move,
:33:39. > :33:43.it was a fast forward one and got him there. He didn't have any
:33:43. > :33:48.worries about stamina. He won it as a two-year-old on heavy ground.
:33:48. > :33:52.Jamie put him to sleep and put him in the right place at the right
:33:52. > :34:01.time and the rest, as they say, is history.
:34:01. > :34:05.He started the 11-8 favourite and landed a fortune in bets today.
:34:05. > :34:09.He has fame and he has covered himself in glory! What a brave
:34:09. > :34:13.performance from Fame And Glory. The money was definitely speaking.
:34:13. > :34:17.The money was on this horse. Great confidence from his owners, but
:34:17. > :34:21.huge confidence from Jamie Spencer who makes a winning move here,
:34:21. > :34:25.turning into the strait, to angle out of the four horses ahead of him
:34:25. > :34:29.to come flying past Manighar and Duncan and Askar Tau who has run so
:34:29. > :34:34.well. Opinion Poll is the only one who comes from behind him to run on
:34:34. > :34:39.in these closing stages and runs well, but what a race. What a race
:34:39. > :34:42.to watch. What a race to savour and if you black Fame And Glory, go and
:34:42. > :34:48.collect! A lovely performance. The class
:34:48. > :34:54.horse has won the race. The only time there was a dault a a doubt
:34:54. > :34:57.about whether he would win was when he came into the strait and Jamie
:34:58. > :35:02.Spencer said, "Go." He didn't get the exact response he was expecting.
:35:02. > :35:08.It took him about 20 strides before he picked up because obviously a
:35:08. > :35:12.long race like that, oh there, there is happy, happy, yes, in a
:35:12. > :35:16.long race, like that. All you are doing to the horse is go to sleep.
:35:16. > :35:20.Go to sleep. Go to sleep and reserve energy and that's what he
:35:20. > :35:25.was doing throughout the whole race and when it came to pick up time,
:35:25. > :35:33.it took him a long kick to get the message that the race was on in
:35:33. > :35:39.earnest. Jamie Spence salutes the crowd and
:35:39. > :35:43.you have to salute them in choosing the right horse and Fame And Glory,
:35:43. > :35:48.a genuine derby contender and a group one performer, very much in
:35:48. > :35:54.the mould of Yeats. They said let's try and make him our Gold Cup horse.
:35:54. > :36:04.Yeats won this race four years in a row. Fame And Glory has his first
:36:04. > :36:08.one on the board at the age of five. He has proved that he is up to the
:36:08. > :36:13.task of winning at least well at least one Gold Cup because he got T
:36:13. > :36:19.he could come back and win it again next year. Lots of horses double up
:36:19. > :36:24.in the Gold Cup. Very few can win three or four in a row. I ought to
:36:24. > :36:28.mention Brigantin. He makes ground in the closing stages to take third
:36:28. > :36:32.place and Geordieland took off, he was too keen with Richard Hughes
:36:32. > :36:36.and something went wrong. He has broken blood vessels in the past
:36:36. > :36:42.and I suspect what happened again. He dropped out. This horse was
:36:42. > :36:52.incredible. There he is, a a good shot of him
:36:52. > :36:58.
:36:58. > :37:05.there, Fame And Glory. He is a son of Manighar. Mick, saying it is
:37:05. > :37:09.unfair to compare this horse to Yeats. Really, you could argue that
:37:09. > :37:15.probably he done a little bit better than Yeats coming into this
:37:15. > :37:20.group. He won an Irish derby. He was second to a champion in an
:37:21. > :37:26.English derby, the coronation World Cup winner, the same as Yeats. He
:37:26. > :37:33.has got credentials. Jamie had every confidence. You
:37:33. > :37:37.could see when he sent him to the front he meant business. As a
:37:37. > :37:40.jockey Jamie would have felt under pressure, he hasn't ridden the big
:37:40. > :37:44.races like he used to. He was retained by the O'Brien stable a
:37:44. > :37:54.few years ago and this will mean plenty to him.
:37:54. > :37:57.
:37:57. > :38:03.It will. It will mean plenty to Michael Smith and Derek Tabore. A
:38:03. > :38:09.huge thrill for them. There is also, I would say, a
:38:09. > :38:19.little bit of joy in the camp to make up for the disappointment
:38:19. > :38:38.
:38:38. > :38:43.yesterday with So You Think. Your Majesty, what a Gold Cup for
:38:43. > :38:49.2011 and it has been won by Aidan O'Brien for the fifth time in his
:38:49. > :38:53.career following in the footsteps of Yeats by Jamie Spencer for the
:38:53. > :39:01.first time and all thanks to a bravery of a horse called Fame And
:39:01. > :39:11.Glory. So the ladies are leading this one
:39:11. > :39:20.
:39:20. > :39:25.Doreen Tabore, Gay Smith, there is Derek Smith joining them.
:39:26. > :39:30.A truly appreciative crowd because this is a real class horse and he
:39:30. > :39:37.has done a fantastic job today. He won officially by three lengths,
:39:37. > :39:43.four-and-a-half lengths between second and third. Time 4.37.51 and
:39:43. > :39:49.you will find that is around about 20 seconds outside the record set
:39:49. > :39:54.last year by Right Of Passage. It gives you an idea of how much the
:39:54. > :40:04.rain has set into the ground. But he has come through with class. He
:40:04. > :40:14.has shown his class. He has shown his stamina and this man Jamie
:40:14. > :40:14.
:40:14. > :40:21.Spencer, it is a huge day. It is a race Jamie will have wanted to have
:40:21. > :40:26.won. It will mean a lot riding this winner for Ballydoyle. He was there
:40:26. > :40:30.one season with Aidan. It didn't end well really. He came back over
:40:30. > :40:40.here. I would say this is a big day for Jamie.
:40:40. > :40:41.
:40:41. > :40:51.It is huge. Kullmore don't have a retained jockey anymore. They use
:40:51. > :40:59.
:40:59. > :41:05.Ryan Moore when he is available. Aidan, how pleased are you with
:41:05. > :41:09.that? Sure listen. We are delighted. We are delighted for everybody. I'm
:41:09. > :41:13.delighted for Jamie. Listen, listen, thanks to everybody. Listen, thanks
:41:13. > :41:18.for everybody for letting the horse with his class run in the Gold Cup.
:41:18. > :41:23.Obviously like it is very few mile and a quarter group one rinners --
:41:23. > :41:30.winners you see run in a Gold Cup. Have you made this horse a stayer
:41:30. > :41:33.or is this what he wanted? I think when horses have so much class, it
:41:33. > :41:37.can often, they can often stay and I think class makes them stay, you
:41:37. > :41:44.know, what I mean? It is the ultimate test of class really when
:41:44. > :41:46.you go that extreme distance and like I said, able to do it a much
:41:46. > :41:50.shorter trip. We are privileged to have him.
:41:50. > :41:53.When people were saying before the race they were worried about the
:41:53. > :41:57.two-and-a-half miles, you were always confident that he may not be
:41:57. > :42:04.a natural two-and-a-half mile horse, but class would get him through?
:42:04. > :42:07.Like I say class is very hard to replace, but and listen, Jamie had
:42:07. > :42:11.ridden him and he was happy and confident with him, listen and gave
:42:11. > :42:15.him an unbelievable ride. Aidan, don't go anywhere because
:42:15. > :42:20.you have got the winning jockey, Jamie Spencer. Jamie, take us
:42:20. > :42:26.through your thoughts on the way the race developed? We didn't go
:42:27. > :42:30.very fast early. Geordieland injected pace in. My fella wasn't
:42:30. > :42:34.keen. Because he has so much class he is used to going a different
:42:34. > :42:41.pace in races. He wanted an injection of pace to make it more
:42:41. > :42:47.comfortable. It was an easy ride and I am privileged to be allowed
:42:47. > :42:52.to to ride the horse. I want to thank the owners. They have had the
:42:52. > :42:56.faith in allowing me to ride the horse, thank you to them.
:42:56. > :43:00.How poignant a moment is for you to ride a Royal Ascot Gold Cup winner
:43:00. > :43:08.for Aidan O'Brien having being stable jockey in 2007? We're
:43:08. > :43:15.getting on better now! No No, no, it is great. He is a
:43:15. > :43:22.great trainer. The first two races were about bringing the horse along.
:43:22. > :43:27.I am tickled pink. Aidan, he has a 3-1 to win the race.
:43:27. > :43:32.66-1 to match the achievement of Yeats and 200-1 to beat it. What
:43:32. > :43:36.are your thoughts? Sure listen, I don't, listen, the plan was after
:43:36. > :43:43.today was to give him a break and train him for the Arc again. So
:43:43. > :43:48.listen, we'll take one step at a time and that's what we always did
:43:48. > :43:50.to give him a run before the back end and we will give him a break
:43:50. > :43:57.now and give him a run before the Arc.
:43:57. > :44:00.And the Gold Cup next year? Wouldn't it be marvellous.
:44:00. > :44:03.100 %. Her Majesty, the Queen, making her
:44:03. > :44:10.way towards the presentation area and she will be handing the cup
:44:10. > :44:17.over into very familiar hands and Sir Peter O'Sullevan bowing before
:44:17. > :44:23.Her Majesty and having a quick chat. He is amazing. We talked about,
:44:23. > :44:26.Prince Philip being 90, but Peter drives himself everywhere.
:44:26. > :44:30.Yes, he drives that Mercedes up and down the country.
:44:30. > :44:40.He never misses a day's racing as well.
:44:40. > :44:53.
:44:53. > :44:59.Let's confirm the placings, the monumental and it was one of those?
:44:59. > :45:04.That's what we are here for to report that. Nobody has escaped
:45:04. > :45:09.this this gamble and next year for the Gold Cup William Hill Hill will
:45:09. > :45:19.put up Fame And Glory 3-1. What can you do at 3-1, you have got to be
:45:19. > :45:22.
:45:22. > :45:30.Well, Fame And Glory now that is his twelfth career win and he has
:45:30. > :45:35.done it over two-and-a-half miles. The Gold Cup worth 156,698 to the
:45:35. > :45:42.winner, but more importantly, it is the most prestigious, if not the
:45:42. > :45:45.largest tro trophy, it is one of the smallest ones.
:45:45. > :45:49.That's the Duke of Devonshire who is Her Majesty's representative. It
:45:49. > :45:53.is his last year in that role and the Queen will have appreciated
:45:54. > :45:57.every part of Fame And Glory because she revealed the Yeats
:45:57. > :46:02.statue back on Tuesday and this horse in that mould and remember
:46:02. > :46:07.Yeats won his first Gold Cup at five years old and Fame And Glory
:46:08. > :46:17.has done the very same thing. We will go to the Arc next. The race
:46:18. > :46:18.
:46:18. > :46:23.he finished fifth in behind Workforce. Normally you get soft
:46:23. > :46:26.ground in France more than quick ground because it is the first
:46:26. > :46:33.Sunday in October. And we will have coverage of that.
:46:33. > :46:36.And there is the master, himself. He is so polite, Aidan, and very,
:46:36. > :46:41.very modest. Yes. He always says it is a privilege to
:46:41. > :46:46.train these horses, but my word it takes planning and it takes a
:46:46. > :46:53.certain amount of special type of genius and he has got it. Yes.
:46:53. > :46:58.He understands horses. He is in the same mould as Sir Henry Cecil.
:46:58. > :47:02.And Aidan O'Brien moves on to 33 career wins at Royal Ascot, but for
:47:02. > :47:05.Jamie Spencer, this is a renaissance, he has been through a
:47:05. > :47:11.tough time in recent years and it is great for him to be back on a
:47:11. > :47:17.horse of this quality and this sort of profile of horse as well.
:47:17. > :47:19.And does ride a few horses for Her Majesty, at Michael Bell's yard.
:47:19. > :47:25.They might have been having a little conversation about how the
:47:25. > :47:29.work has been going on there. A 17th career win at Royal Ascot
:47:29. > :47:39.for Jamie Spencer and his first first for two years and well done
:47:39. > :47:43.
:47:43. > :47:47.Let's look at how they settled down in the race. This is after half a
:47:47. > :47:51.mile. You see Fame And Glory, the purple cap in fourth or fifth
:47:51. > :47:58.position. The second horse, Opinion Poll from the extreme right. He is
:47:58. > :48:02.fourth from the back of the field. The French horse, green jacket, in
:48:02. > :48:05.third position, Brigantin, he is towards the back. We will come to
:48:05. > :48:11.the closing stages in a moment. Askar Tau the fifth horse in the
:48:11. > :48:15.light colour and Manighar is just in in front of him. That's the way
:48:15. > :48:20.they settled down, but let's look at the closing stages when they
:48:20. > :48:24.came towards the home term. Here is Fame And Glory about to to make his
:48:24. > :48:29.move. Here is Brigantin. Look as these two, they have come from
:48:29. > :48:33.further than the winner off the pace. Opinion Poll has to get get
:48:33. > :48:40.around Sir Mark Prescott's horse, but he begins to stay on. The thing
:48:40. > :48:45.with him is the ground. He run second at 16-1. His connections
:48:45. > :48:50.said he will go to Goodwood, but he does need soft ground which is what
:48:50. > :48:57.he got today. The Melbourne Cup is the plan for the French horse,
:48:57. > :49:02.Brigantin, the green jacket. A good run from him. Now of the
:49:02. > :49:06.others, William Buick said Duncan ran too free. He is better when he
:49:06. > :49:12.is allowed to dominate in races over a shorter trip. Two-and-a-half
:49:12. > :49:16.miles for the first time today. Blue Bajan didn't say and Manighar
:49:16. > :49:21.will be going fob the Cup races and they will lead to the Melbourne Cup,
:49:21. > :49:27.the time here today 16.5 seconds slower than average. Don't worry
:49:27. > :49:31.about that. There is few races won over 2.5 miles at ast cot. That's -
:49:31. > :49:37.- Ascot, that's not the most reliable of tapels. -- times.
:49:37. > :49:41.There is There is thrilling for those who supported Fame And Glory.
:49:41. > :49:45.Our feature race of the day has been and gone, but we have three
:49:45. > :49:51.races, two of them on BBC Two and the final one will be on the Red
:49:51. > :49:56.Button and the Britannia is coming up next. A maximum field of of 30
:49:56. > :50:06.runners for that and it will be an incredible sight to see them coming
:50:06. > :50:08.
:50:08. > :50:16.down the strait. Then we have the Tercentenary Stakes. Final Finally
:50:16. > :50:21.on the Red Button we will have the King George V handicap. The
:50:21. > :50:29.favourite is Census. Yes, some terrific fashion in a
:50:29. > :50:35.moment. We will flick over to Louis who is with Catherine Elizabeth.
:50:35. > :50:38.darling, I need to know how is your fabulous creation coming along?
:50:38. > :50:41.is coming along quite nicely and we are just stripping the last feather
:50:41. > :50:45.to put on to this piece. We are stripping it down the side and do a
:50:46. > :50:51.bit of curling on it just to create the same effect we have got on this
:50:51. > :50:57.hat. I want to see this.
:50:57. > :51:02.This is what you call curling of an ostrich feather. This is wonderful.
:51:02. > :51:06.Get the scissors on it quick. No pressure!
:51:06. > :51:11.No pressure! Just curl it around like that and
:51:11. > :51:21.then we can did a little bit of trimming. While Catherine is
:51:21. > :51:26.continuing to finish her hat, I am joined by fashion Royalty. This is
:51:26. > :51:30.fashion designer, Anthony Price and fashion historian and journalist
:51:30. > :51:35.Judith Watt. Thank you for coming on the show today. I'm really
:51:35. > :51:38.excited to talk to you. It is 300 years of Royal Ascot, Judith it is
:51:38. > :51:40.important that we look back and look at some of the image and if
:51:41. > :51:46.you could talk us through this fabulous black and white footage
:51:46. > :51:50.that we have got from the 1930s, that would be terrific.
:51:51. > :51:58.I would love to. What you have got here, oh it is charming, isn't it?
:51:58. > :52:03.Look at the hair. So what we have got here, it is the Duchess of
:52:03. > :52:07.Argyl. That was one of the greatest figures of fashion in the 30s. You
:52:07. > :52:12.see the similarities today, hats have barely changed really from the
:52:12. > :52:15.30s until now. Again, the importance of a veil. Oh, there is
:52:15. > :52:21.the Queen Mother, fantastic and elegant.
:52:21. > :52:27.Isn't that interesting what you said about hats not changing much?
:52:27. > :52:31.We saw a lot here at Ascot today. Well, a hat is a hat, and it is an
:52:31. > :52:34.important statement and it is wonderful to see the different
:52:34. > :52:38.women wearing hats today because you don't normally see them. There
:52:38. > :52:43.is a fantastic variety, your Philip Treacy is beautiful, but the same
:52:43. > :52:47.shape as we saw in the 30s footage. Shape is something Anthony that you
:52:47. > :52:50.are keen on and structuring shape and we had Bryan Ferry here
:52:50. > :52:59.yesterday who was singing her praises, but you do like to turn a
:52:59. > :53:05.woman into a mannequin? Well, Bryan have been con sors of presentation
:53:05. > :53:10.and yes, I like, I had a family who were shapely and I started making
:53:11. > :53:17.clothes for probably my sisters and for the first time I started to
:53:17. > :53:22.understand female shape. As I say, beautifully shaped dresses, a
:53:22. > :53:25.girl's toys like boys toys are cars and boats. It is very important to
:53:25. > :53:29.girls. I love making clothes for beautiful women with shapes like
:53:29. > :53:35.that. Well, this is one of yours. The
:53:35. > :53:38.shape is absolutely amazing. I don't have a waist. To see a waist
:53:38. > :53:44.is extraordinary. That's the first I have seen of it
:53:44. > :53:49.until I arrived. My eyes popped out and I thought if somebody else had
:53:49. > :53:53.done that, I would kill them. We have some great models. Talk us
:53:53. > :54:03.through what we are seeing. The dresses are by Vivienne
:54:03. > :54:05.
:54:05. > :54:10.Westwood. This is based on an 1840s style. It is a quinlin-style dress.
:54:10. > :54:19.What is interesting is the very modern 1980 style sleeves. Again,
:54:19. > :54:25.you have got something based on the Cecil Beaton dress. Vivian has done
:54:25. > :54:31.a bias cut. It is sexy and contemporary and contemporary
:54:31. > :54:36.drapes, don't you think, an knee? That look, everybody designer is
:54:36. > :54:39.copying. It is the use of drapes in by tsar ways.
:54:39. > :54:49.-- bizarre ways. I love the Stephen Jones hat. This
:54:49. > :54:53.
:54:53. > :54:56.is based on a 1940s style. The hat was hat was everything and this
:54:56. > :54:58.model is ravishing for this hat. The dress is lovely, but the hat is
:54:58. > :55:01.the winner. It is a work of Hart. -- art.
:55:01. > :55:06.The girls are beautiful. The girls are all beautiful. Sorry,
:55:06. > :55:10.you are all beauties and the hats are all by Stephen Jones. They are
:55:10. > :55:14.such statement pieces. They are masterful.
:55:14. > :55:24.Judith, thank you very much. Anthony, are you pleased with
:55:24. > :55:24.
:55:24. > :55:29.everything you have seen today. The Tracey hat is excellent when it
:55:29. > :55:33.comes to shape, but we have the Jones today. We have got them all.
:55:34. > :55:40.Ascot at its best. Anthony, thank you.
:55:40. > :55:45.Thank you, Suzi. Jamie Spencer with the Gold Cup. It is worth more than
:55:45. > :55:49.its weight in gold to any jockey to manages to win this race. Jamie
:55:49. > :55:54.winning it for the first time in his career. What a horse as well.
:55:54. > :55:58.And going back into the jockey's room there. He heave as sigh of
:55:58. > :56:02.relief and punches the air. There is a fair bit of pressure that
:56:02. > :56:06.comes from riding a well backed favourite and Frankie knows about
:56:07. > :56:12.that pressure. Richard Hills there as well congratulating him. A lot
:56:12. > :56:15.of appreciation. A kiss there for Hayley Turner. He is a popular guy,
:56:15. > :56:20.Jamie and people understand it hasn't always been straightforward
:56:20. > :56:30.and easy for him. One of the headlines at Royal Ascot has been
:56:30. > :56:31.
:56:31. > :56:34.about the whip and Kevin Darley is from the professional jockeys
:56:34. > :56:38.association. We have had five bans already and there are bound to be
:56:38. > :56:44.more. Most high-profile was Frankie yesterday, but it is another high-
:56:44. > :56:50.profile occasion and after the bans in the Grand National, it is a
:56:50. > :56:54.worry, Jamie? It is a concern. Clare, that's the reason why we are
:56:54. > :56:58.conductsing the review. It is important that people understand
:56:58. > :57:02.this review didn't commence after the Grand National. Conversations
:57:02. > :57:05.about been taking place and discussions had taken place in
:57:05. > :57:09.consideration had commenced as far back as November last year. It was
:57:09. > :57:15.something that was in our mind all that time ago. Is the whip properly
:57:15. > :57:19.placed in racing for the best racing? You know, we have to
:57:19. > :57:22.acknowledge the Grand National did bring it on to the front page. With
:57:22. > :57:26.that the BHA took the step of making the public statement that we
:57:26. > :57:31.would be conducting a review which we are doing.
:57:31. > :57:34.Kevin, you will be there as the voice of the jockeys. How many
:57:34. > :57:37.jockeys find it difficult to work within the guidelines and how many
:57:37. > :57:41.are happy with them? Before I answer that Clare, for the viewers
:57:41. > :57:45.watching today, although we don't condone what Frankie did yesterday
:57:45. > :57:49.in respect to the amount of times he hit the horse, I can assure them
:57:49. > :57:53.that had that horse been feeling pain, he would have stopped. He
:57:53. > :57:57.wouldn't have gone forward. But going back to your question,
:57:57. > :58:00.obviously the jockeys are aware that it is all about public
:58:00. > :58:04.perception and we are pleased that we are going to be a part of this
:58:04. > :58:08.review and hopefully by collating the information from the different
:58:08. > :58:12.constituents within the industry we will be able to find rules that
:58:12. > :58:14.will be, you know, compliant to the jockeys and will be acceptable to
:58:14. > :58:20.the public and people watching racing from the outside.
:58:20. > :58:27.It is worth stressing that we are talk being air cushioned whips.
:58:27. > :58:31.There is a serious penalties if abuse is caused or is happening in
:58:31. > :58:37.racing. Jenni that's not the case, but -- Jenni that's not the case,
:58:37. > :58:40.but there are a lot of offences? need to look at what rules will
:58:40. > :58:44.cause behavioural change in the jockeys and to everyone's credit
:58:44. > :58:46.that we have spoken to so far including the jockeys, everyone
:58:46. > :58:50.acknowledges the issues and everyone is up to addressing them
:58:50. > :58:54.and that's encouraging. Where we end up, time will tell. We have
:58:54. > :58:59.many more people to speak to, but you make a very, very important
:58:59. > :59:03.point. The whip design is very, very scientific. It is about not
:59:03. > :59:06.hurting the horse. We are looking at that. It is part of the review.
:59:06. > :59:10.Additionally we are looking at the penalty structure and we are
:59:10. > :59:15.looking at the education of riders because that's where the change can
:59:15. > :59:19.start in the educational process so it is a far reaching review and to
:59:19. > :59:22.this state, we have been encouraged. The guidelines as they stand at the
:59:22. > :59:32.moment, 13 times is the maximum that you can hit a horse in the
:59:32. > :59:35.
:59:35. > :59:39.for jockeys in in the heat of the moment to be counting and certainly
:59:39. > :59:44.counting that much. There seems to be an argument for bringing it down
:59:44. > :59:49.to make sure that people know where they are. It is easy to count to
:59:49. > :59:52.five than 13? Looking at those numbers, the jockeys will tell you,
:59:52. > :59:57.can we condone those numbers? It is about feel when you are on the
:59:57. > :00:02.horse. Is the horse responding to the whip? We have got to take into
:00:02. > :00:06.consideration what jockeys feel. They are the horsemen, they know
:00:06. > :00:08.what the horse needs to keep it going and to keep its momentum and
:00:09. > :00:12.we have got to give them credit where it is due, but they
:00:12. > :00:13.appreciate that there is a problem out there and it is a public
:00:13. > :00:18.perception that we have got to address.
:00:19. > :00:24.Jamie, there are two extremes and you have got, use it as much as we
:00:24. > :00:29.can. At the other end you have got take the whip away. Is there a a
:00:29. > :00:33.possibility of whip use being banned? Everything is on the table,
:00:33. > :00:37.Clare. Nothing is being ruled out. We have gone to both end of the
:00:37. > :00:40.spectrums and there is middle ground, where we end up, I am not
:00:40. > :00:45.sure. You mention there has been five ings dents of the rule breach
:00:45. > :00:48.so far this week at Royal Ascot, but what is clear is there is no
:00:48. > :00:53.evidence of any horse suffering as a result of those. There is no
:00:53. > :00:57.scientific evidence. There is no veterinary evidence. They have
:00:57. > :01:00.simply been frequency issues. And we will keep you updated with
:01:00. > :01:04.anymore feedback we get from today's races.
:01:04. > :01:13.We have been canvassing opinion to and this is what the racegoers had
:01:13. > :01:19.needed, so it cannot be banned all together. It is a very difficult
:01:19. > :01:24.job to solve this one. It's part of the sport. We need to make sure it
:01:24. > :01:29.is maintained and looked after. The horses' welfare. We don't want a
:01:29. > :01:34.horse to be beaten, effectively, do we. If it was banned it would be an
:01:34. > :01:39.annoyance. The do-goers get their five minutes
:01:39. > :01:43.in the press. I suppose it's not great on the horses. It causes them
:01:43. > :01:46.a little bit of discomfort when they're running around. I don't
:01:46. > :01:52.know whether it would make a difference whether I bet on them.
:01:52. > :01:55.I'm not sure. Around the world is different. In Hong Kong there's no
:01:55. > :02:00.restrictions, unless they are silly at the start of a race. In
:02:00. > :02:04.Australia they have changed the rules because of public perception.
:02:04. > :02:09.A necessary evil. I don't think Frankie Dettori would have won
:02:09. > :02:13.without the whip, so there we are. I don't think anyone who watched
:02:13. > :02:17.Frankie Dettori would have been alarmed. I thought he rode a
:02:17. > :02:24.perfect race. It's an issue which has to be addressed. I am confident
:02:24. > :02:29.the BHA have the right man in Jamie Steer supervising that look at it.
:02:29. > :02:39.I think they will come one the right answers. We will address that
:02:39. > :02:39.
:02:39. > :03:42.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 62 seconds
:03:42. > :03:49.later in the year. Let's look at betting ring you can see the prices,
:03:49. > :03:54.6-1 for Chain Lightning. This is another gamble going on.
:03:54. > :03:59.10-1 those. What is the fall out from the last race? I have come
:03:59. > :04:05.here for 42 years. It's the biggest gamble I have ever seen. We had
:04:05. > :04:08.50,000 to 20 on the offices. On the track 30,000 to 20. He was backed
:04:08. > :04:14.to the exclusion of his rivals. Each way money. Small for the
:04:14. > :04:17.others. They just wanted to be on one. Over to you? I am with David.
:04:17. > :04:21.We came to you before the race. What sort of result was that for
:04:21. > :04:29.you? A bad result. Can you get out of trouble on the
:04:29. > :04:34.week after that? It's only half- time. And here we've got Geoff
:04:34. > :04:40.Banks. How was that one? Leave me alone! Please!
:04:40. > :04:50.How was that one? I am looking for a new line of work. Anna is still
:04:50. > :04:51.
:04:51. > :04:55.smiling. That's Geoff Banks there. He suffered most.
:04:55. > :04:59.Great stuff down in the betting ring. Chain Lightning here -
:04:59. > :05:03.Richard Hughes taking this horse down to the start. He's the leading
:05:03. > :05:11.jockey of the week. Three wins for him so far and a big chance in this.
:05:11. > :05:21.I will bring you up-to-date with the stewards' looking into use of
:05:21. > :05:29.
:05:29. > :05:34.the -- with the stewards looking at It is such a difficult race the
:05:34. > :05:40.Britannia to predict. A lot is draw-dependant. You need a horse in
:05:40. > :05:50.form and this one is. It certainly is. This horse is being backed more
:05:50. > :06:00.than any other horse in this race. It's a tough race to find a winner.
:06:00. > :06:03.
:06:03. > :06:09.The first horse we saw, Richard Hughes's horse, I know Hughes likes
:06:09. > :06:16.him. We have Sagramor. Has not finished the first two in his first
:06:16. > :06:21.two this year. 23 could be a very decent draw. Poor Steve. He hasn't
:06:21. > :06:25.been able to get back in time, has he? I think he deserves a big pat
:06:25. > :06:29.on the back. He could have said he is better than he is. Explain what
:06:29. > :06:33.has gone wrong? He has damaged his shoulder. He said he could not get
:06:33. > :06:37.it right in time and it was not fair to take a ride. There's
:06:38. > :06:43.Tropical Beat down at the start. He has the blinkers on. He has drawn
:06:43. > :06:47.at 31. Is that a good thing today? It was yesterday.
:06:47. > :06:55.It would have been yesterday. We'll have to wait and see. The real
:06:55. > :07:00.expert is with us though. Oh, thank you very much. It is true. He's by
:07:00. > :07:03.the stallion Beat Hollow who is doing very well this year. He has
:07:03. > :07:09.the blinkers on for the first time. You would have to say that they are
:07:09. > :07:14.expecting him to run a big race and of course they are put the blinkers
:07:15. > :07:20.on. Hopefully it will make him run nice and straight. He is drawn 31,
:07:20. > :07:30.which would be possibly right down the stands rail. A very, very good
:07:30. > :07:40.
:07:40. > :07:48.draw. Primprim, who won an -- was 16-1 this morning. He's now six.
:07:48. > :07:57.So, they have moved forward, the last few. Going forward into stall
:07:57. > :08:03.number 30, Tony Culhane. He last rode a Royal Ascot winner 23 years
:08:03. > :08:06.ago. He's on Belgian Bill here. They are racing. Away to a good
:08:06. > :08:11.start. Crown Counsel was up there too in the early stages. Many
:08:11. > :08:16.crossing over to that far side. Certainly those that were a little
:08:16. > :08:23.bit this side. On settling down on the stands rail here and as we
:08:23. > :08:30.settle fully Kuala Limper is showing out there, so too is
:08:30. > :08:40.Baptist. There's a lot of indecision here. Out in the centre,
:08:40. > :08:50.
:08:50. > :08:55.the far group there, led by Norse In company there with The Tichborne.
:08:55. > :08:59.Chilworth Lad behind them as well. Belgian Bill has a very, very good
:08:59. > :09:03.place from Sagramor as well. Rigolleto showing the way there,
:09:03. > :09:09.from Norse Blues. Up there as well is Ashva. On the near side The
:09:09. > :09:19.Tichborne kicks for home, goes two lengths clear now. Crown Counsel
:09:19. > :09:19.
:09:19. > :09:23.giving chase. Followed by Tiel Tiel -- Chilworth Lad. It's The
:09:23. > :09:28.Tichborne in front. Sagramor giving chase now. They are followed by
:09:28. > :09:32.Trade Storm. Coming up the centre in company with Ashva. Chain
:09:32. > :09:37.Lightning. They are stretched across the track and starting to
:09:37. > :09:43.run home is Cai Shen. Anybody who has run this, here's Belgian Bill
:09:43. > :09:48.getting up on the fence. It's The Tichborne and Sagramor. Sagramor
:09:48. > :09:58.wins the money from Cai Shen, tight third between Belgian Bill and The
:09:58. > :10:04.
:10:04. > :10:11.Tichborne. Just behind them is traintrain, followed back -- is the
:10:11. > :10:18.Train -- Trade Storm. Sagramor, number 11. Trained by
:10:18. > :10:23.Hughie Morrison. This colt has won 8-1. Sagramor.
:10:23. > :10:26.Second is number one, Cai Shen, riden by Ryan Moore. It is very
:10:26. > :10:31.close for third, Belgian Bill is there and The Tichborne. Here they
:10:31. > :10:34.are, Sagramor has won it. Cai Shen, just getting second. Look
:10:34. > :10:40.at that for third. Let's slow it down.
:10:40. > :10:45.Oh, that's very, very tight. Nearside is Belgian Bill. In the
:10:45. > :10:55.centre The Tichborne, then followed Trade Storm, who ran on well.
:10:55. > :10:58.
:10:58. > :11:07.Cruiser was next. Followed then by Bahceli. Stands rail Tropical Beat.
:11:07. > :11:12.Ashva behind them. Then Tinkertown, the grey at the top. Followed by
:11:12. > :11:22.Madawi, then Vanguard Dream. Also Bridgetown. In company there with
:11:22. > :11:25.
:11:25. > :11:29.Polar Kite, crossing the line. Also there is Capaill Liath. Near side
:11:29. > :11:33.Crown Counsel, who was very prominent early. Catalyze next.
:11:33. > :11:42.Never got into it. They were followed then by Capaill Liath.
:11:42. > :11:47.Another seven to come. Here's Honey Of A Kitten, Baptist showed pace.
:11:47. > :11:52.Kuala Limper showed pace. Rigolleto led them on the far side at one
:11:52. > :11:56.stage. Still a couple more, Norse Blues, who was prominent and still
:11:56. > :12:06.one more, I think there's one more to come as they cross the line, a
:12:06. > :12:07.
:12:07. > :12:15.long, long way behind them. There's the winner, number 11. Won the
:12:15. > :12:19.Britannia Stakes, 2011. A great triumph of. He does not get that
:12:19. > :12:22.many chances. Look how far Cai Shen came from, how far back he came
:12:22. > :12:32.from. The jockeys were undecided in the early stages. They were all
:12:32. > :12:42.over the place. It was like a loney tunes cartoon as they -- a loany
:12:42. > :12:42.
:12:42. > :12:51.tunes cartoon as they decided where to go. I think he deserves a huge
:12:51. > :12:59.pat on the back for standing himself down. As Sagramor lungs for
:12:59. > :13:05.the line, still making waves is Cai Shen. Ryan Moore on board. Throwing
:13:05. > :13:15.everything at the top weight. It is Sagramor who has the answers, also
:13:15. > :13:21.
:13:21. > :13:25.Britannia. It is a gruelling straight mile here. You are running
:13:25. > :13:32.the choke out all the way. It is tough on these horses, especially
:13:32. > :13:42.with the ground having a soaking with the rain. You can see Tony
:13:42. > :13:45.
:13:45. > :13:53.Culhane. And Nicky Mackay looking astounded. You can see everybody
:13:53. > :13:59.getting involved here. The owners of this horse and a bit like Jim
:13:59. > :14:09.Bolger, like earlier, the coolest of the lot. He's had success every
:14:09. > :14:17.
:14:17. > :14:25.where. Given resources, he gets the job down. His dad of course, Alan
:14:25. > :14:30.Mackay, a good good jockey. Belgian Bill was in fourth position.
:14:30. > :14:34.The bookies must have been cheering when The Tichborne took off. What
:14:34. > :14:38.frustration for Ryan Moore. He's had one winner this week. Four
:14:38. > :14:44.seconds and Cai Shen was another one. You could see how fast he was
:14:44. > :14:49.finishing. He's come from a fair way back. He's come with a big
:14:49. > :14:58.rattle. Ryan Moore, having to be content with second again. The
:14:58. > :15:07.distances were half a length and a head. The time 1.44.55. That was
:15:07. > :15:15.8.5 seconds or around about 8.5 seconds outside the record.
:15:15. > :15:19.Nicky, a very happy man. He is greated by -- greeted by
:15:19. > :15:25.Connections. I am sure he'll have a picnic looking at the early stages.
:15:25. > :15:31.A few of them decided to go over to the far side. Then a few that you
:15:31. > :15:38.thought would be over the far side decided to come on to the stands
:15:38. > :15:48.rail. And there's the reward for the winner.
:15:48. > :15:53.
:15:53. > :15:59.Sagramor. Son of Pastoral Pursuit. They were trained by Hughie
:15:59. > :16:03.Morrison and are trained. Here he is now. We always imagine when you
:16:03. > :16:10.get one on a handicap there has been a plot for a long time. Is
:16:10. > :16:20.that fair This one was a plot. The team, they've been planning this
:16:20. > :16:20.
:16:20. > :16:26.since we brought Jazzwic. It is just a fantastic day, isn't it? I
:16:26. > :16:30.thought we had our day at Haydock. He was gutsy, wasn't he? I didn't
:16:30. > :16:36.read the race very well. I thought he was going to fold. He toughed it
:16:36. > :16:42.out. He really did. Your thoughts on the closing stages as he was
:16:42. > :16:47.challenged all around. I was watching the television rather than
:16:47. > :16:55.the live. I miss read the race. I thought we were going to be third.
:16:55. > :17:02.I looked and thought, oh, we're in front. He held on. Nicky, you first
:17:02. > :17:06.winner since Admiral back in 2004. A special win for you? It is my
:17:06. > :17:10.first Ascot win. I've had to wait eight years since that day. It is
:17:10. > :17:14.great to get a Royal Ascot winner. I would like to thank Mr Morrison
:17:14. > :17:19.and who ever's been riding the horse back at home and the staff
:17:19. > :17:23.back at Mr Morrisons. The rider at home has done a great job. Sue, our
:17:23. > :17:30.head girl. He's taken a bit of effort, this horse. He had a couple
:17:30. > :17:34.of crisiss in the spring. Such as? He galloped up a hill lose.
:17:34. > :17:42.Normally they hurt themselves when they do that. He thought it was
:17:42. > :17:46.good fun. Very athletic. You look, there's a lot of emotion on your
:17:46. > :17:50.face? A lot of people who know me would know how much it means to me.
:17:50. > :17:56.A couple of years ago I was really struggling. I went to Mr Gosden.
:17:56. > :18:02.Since then it has gone up from there. I would like to thank Mr
:18:02. > :18:06.Gosden. Jim Boyle. There are other trainers who have stuck by me.
:18:06. > :18:10.Those two come to mind. I would like to say thank you to both of
:18:10. > :18:14.them. We'll let you go. We'll try and grab a word with some of the
:18:14. > :18:20.owners. If it is possible for some of the
:18:20. > :18:23.owners of this horse to introduce themselves to us on the BBC here.
:18:23. > :18:28.The celebration has been fantastic. Tell us about the ownership and
:18:28. > :18:34.where does it come from? The tie, obviously fantastic. It originated
:18:34. > :18:38.from about six friends forming a syndicate to buy a horse called
:18:38. > :18:41.Jazzmic, back in the late 90s. She's the mother of this horse and
:18:41. > :18:46.another horse we've got. A couple of other people have come into the
:18:46. > :18:53.syndicate. Past Pursuits, who was the sire.
:18:53. > :18:58.The mother produced Sagramor. It has been a fantastic dream. We are
:18:58. > :19:03.six owners, plus Isabel. We have hit dream land. This is my 50th
:19:03. > :19:07.birthday this week. I am over the world. It is brilliant. The
:19:07. > :19:13.moment the horse crosses the line, at Royal Ascot, is it,vy to pinch
:19:13. > :19:19.myself to make sure it is real? We've had defeat. We had the first
:19:19. > :19:24.never got to the racecourse T second fool died. The third is in
:19:24. > :19:29.the -- the second Foal died, the third is in the stables. He has
:19:29. > :19:34.gone and won the Britannia. should have seen our celebrations!
:19:35. > :19:39.We did! We did! It was amazing. Yeah. Very good.
:19:39. > :19:46.Well done to all of you. I hope this success story continues. Thank
:19:46. > :19:56.you. So Sagramor wins the Britannia
:19:56. > :20:07.
:20:07. > :20:11.Ryan Moore cannot get a winner, can he? He's had plenty of seconds.
:20:11. > :20:15.Richard Hughes still favourite to be champion jockey.
:20:15. > :20:19.He's not the only one who's had a lot of seconds!
:20:19. > :20:23.I am so worried about this. He'll press this screen in a moment.
:20:23. > :20:27.Let's see where they came from. This is the low numbers over the
:20:27. > :20:32.far side. They didn't figure in because they all came down the
:20:32. > :20:38.centre or towards the near side. If we look at a couple in the closing
:20:38. > :20:47.stages, the runner up Cai Shen. Mainly, there he is there. And also
:20:47. > :20:51.there, the light blue. He finishes fast. He makes his own trouble.
:20:51. > :20:55.has finished with real purpose. He just got a little bit too far
:20:55. > :21:00.behind. And possibly didn't get the run up the race as he would like,
:21:00. > :21:05.or he couldn't go as fast to go take the gaps. Basically, the whole
:21:05. > :21:12.race, there was very, very few unlucky horses in the whole race.
:21:12. > :21:17.All these runners and they all had a good shot at getting a clear run.
:21:17. > :21:21.Cai Shen, you can see in red and green. On the extreme left now.
:21:21. > :21:26.he finished with the good rattle. He basically came straight down the
:21:27. > :21:32.middle the whole way, which was very interesting. And of course the
:21:32. > :21:37.winner, who has just drifted a bit towards the stand-side, his jockey
:21:37. > :21:40.was highly delighted to have won that race. He was. We've got to
:21:40. > :21:46.mention the good run from The Tichborne. It's hard to make the
:21:46. > :21:52.running here. Very good run. It was always in the van and fought and
:21:52. > :21:57.fought and just got piped in the last quarter of a furlong. There's
:21:57. > :22:01.the time. 5.5 seconds slower than the average time. The trophy
:22:01. > :22:09.presentation was made by Rachel Johnson, the editor of The Lady
:22:09. > :22:15.magazine. You can see the delighted owners of Sagramor. Nicky Mackay in
:22:15. > :22:23.the middle saying what a struggle it has been for him since his only
:22:23. > :22:27.previous Royal Ascot winner back in 2004. They are having a shout and a
:22:27. > :22:33.Holla. I thought he was emotional in his interview as well. It meant
:22:33. > :22:38.so much to him. When you have been in the dull drums, like he says he
:22:38. > :22:44.has, it means so much more. He has experienced that before and you are
:22:44. > :22:47.desperate to get that winning feeling again. Good for them! The
:22:47. > :22:52.kids will have to divide that mug between them. When we saw Jamie
:22:52. > :22:58.Spencer going into the weighing room getting congratulations, I
:22:58. > :23:07.thought it was Hayley Turner giving him a kiss and it was not. It was
:23:07. > :23:11.Tom Queally. They are good friends. We are celebrating the tercentenary.
:23:11. > :23:19.In terms of tennis, that is held at Wimbledon. On Sunday night you will
:23:19. > :23:24.be able to see this documentary. There's nothing like it when you
:23:24. > :23:32.look at it, whether you're there in person, the smell of it, or when
:23:32. > :23:36.you're watching on TV. It's the one that everyone knows.
:23:36. > :23:41.Even people who don't know tennis, they've heard of tennis. It's the
:23:41. > :23:45.biggest torn nment the world. you are a Wimbledon champion, you
:23:45. > :23:50.are remembered for life. I have always felt there was
:23:50. > :23:54.something special. It was a place I wanted to be a part of. Compete in
:23:54. > :23:57.and one day hopefully win. We speak to the majority of the
:23:57. > :24:07.players and say if there was one tournament you would win, which
:24:07. > :24:10.
:24:10. > :24:14.would it be? It would be Wimbledon. Sunday night at 8pm on BBC Two. 125
:24:14. > :24:20.years of Wimbledon - you cannot be serious. We hope it does not rain
:24:20. > :24:24.there. The rain has stopped here at Ascot. One more post script to the
:24:24. > :24:30.Gold Cup. Jamie Spencer has picked up a suspension for hitting the
:24:30. > :24:34.horse down the neck and another day for interfering with Kieran Fallon.
:24:35. > :24:40.It is all happening, isn't it? the ground is softer, horses roll
:24:40. > :24:49.around. He tried to correct it. He has paid the boupblty now. Let's
:24:49. > :24:53.head -- the bounti now. Let's -- bounty now. Let's head over now to
:24:53. > :24:59.you. There have been a few winners. Unlike me. I have lost everything I
:24:59. > :25:04.have betted on. Here is a safe bet for you. Catherine Elizabeth has
:25:04. > :25:08.completed the hat. You are wearing it here. It looks fantastic.
:25:09. > :25:13.Congratulations! Thank you. It is really great for this season. You
:25:13. > :25:19.have the orange and the yellows, which is good with the pheasant
:25:19. > :25:24.feathers. We have tide on some elastic, used to fix to the head.
:25:24. > :25:28.It is an eye-drop creation to show often Ascot and the anniversary.
:25:28. > :25:33.It's really fun to do. That is fantastic. It is difficult to whip
:25:33. > :25:39.up a hat in that time. She did an extraordinary job. We put the
:25:39. > :25:43.pressure on you. Well done. You did it. You did. We have seen some
:25:43. > :25:53.fantastic fashion. Let's see some of the scenes from Royal Ascot
:25:53. > :25:53.
:25:53. > :27:51.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 62 seconds
:27:51. > :28:01.MUSIC IT'S BEEN A GREAT DAY. JUST BUMPED
:28:01. > :28:06.INTO THIS LOVELY LADY, WHO LOOKS Divine. Wouldn't you agree? It is a
:28:06. > :28:12.Phillip Tracey hat. There is an accent I detect there. Is that
:28:12. > :28:15.Australian? Yes, it is. Do you go racing in Australia? It has been a
:28:15. > :28:23.while since I lived in Australia. This is my first time at Ascot.
:28:23. > :28:28.Have you had a good day? A great day. Those feathers work well.
:28:28. > :28:31.has used that beautiful head piece underneetd here. It works well. She
:28:31. > :28:36.has -- underneath here. It works well.
:28:36. > :28:40.She has kept her hair off her face. It is about knowing how to carry it
:28:40. > :28:43.off once you have the outfit together. The ladies, it is also
:28:43. > :28:52.about having fun. It is a celebration about the ladies today.
:28:52. > :28:57.Thank you. Enjoy the rest of your day. If we wonder around here.
:28:57. > :29:02.lady was extraordinary. Hello. Shall I go over here. This is
:29:02. > :29:11.beautiful. It is oyster colour. It is very rich.Vy brapblt. What is
:29:11. > :29:17.the hat maker here? Me. What is your name Natalia. Have you made
:29:17. > :29:22.your friend's hats? Yes. You look super. How long does it take you to
:29:22. > :29:27.make a hat? That one a couple of days. Everything was prepared.
:29:27. > :29:35.you look like you are very well organised. Have you had fun today?
:29:35. > :29:39.Yeah, sure. This is what we are drawn to. What was your inspiration
:29:39. > :29:45.here? She wanted the wow factor. There you are!
:29:45. > :29:48.Really having fun here on lady's day. Thank you. Thank you to our
:29:48. > :29:54.fashion team. Our next race is the Tercentenary Stakes. Named in
:29:54. > :29:59.honour of the fact this is the 300th year of racing at Ascot. We
:29:59. > :30:03.are taking the opportunity to spin back through time and relive some
:30:03. > :30:06.extraordinary things. We are going back to 1988. One of the most
:30:06. > :30:16.extraordinary and dare I say stunning incidents took place at
:30:16. > :30:21.
:30:21. > :30:26.If you said to me, Sheep, I would say stun gun. A court in London's
:30:26. > :30:31.heard a sonic gun disguised as a pair of bin ck lars was used to
:30:31. > :30:36.nobble a race hours at Royal Ascot. -- binoculars. He veered to the
:30:36. > :30:42.left. The experienced rider's been unable to explain why his horse
:30:42. > :30:47.behave sod abruptly. Nothing fr came to light to prove that it was
:30:47. > :30:53.correct -- nothing ever came to light. It was like a loud firework
:30:53. > :30:55.going off in its ear. It was unproven but a great story. The top
:30:55. > :31:05.race, the Ascot Gold Cup ended dramatically after the horse which
:31:05. > :31:11.passed the winning post first was disqualified. The clash sent Clarke
:31:11. > :31:19.tumbling to the ground. Royal Gate is going to win the Gold Cup in
:31:19. > :31:23.tremendous striel. We have real drama here at Ascot -- style.
:31:23. > :31:28.Gate was disqualified, placed last and the race was awarded to the
:31:28. > :31:34.second horse, Sadine. controversial verdict. Make no
:31:34. > :31:38.mistake. Willie, you were riding here that
:31:38. > :31:47.day. Extraordinary to have two such unusual incidents on the one day?
:31:47. > :31:56.Yes, it was. The stun gun thing! At first, we all went "really?!" and
:31:56. > :31:59.of course, I think it was just that he saw something and ducked I did
:31:59. > :32:05.actually ride him, finished second in the champions stakes on him.
:32:05. > :32:10.was a tricky horse, wasn't he? was. You think he jinked of his own
:32:10. > :32:16.accord? I do. It wasn't his first race or anything, but he was a bit
:32:16. > :32:19.tricky at the time. Extraordinary to be in two races in which the
:32:19. > :32:24.horses that looked like winning didn't for two different reasons?
:32:24. > :32:28.The Royal Gate affair, I do remember I think in that the
:32:28. > :32:33.stewards came to the wrong decision. The rules were changed then so that
:32:34. > :32:39.in those instances, if the horse is a clear winner, the horse keeps the
:32:39. > :32:44.race? My view is that it was pure robbery, but that was how it was.
:32:44. > :32:50.The jockey and the horse were locked together, nowadays they can
:32:50. > :32:55.be taken separate. You can ban the jockey now and not interfere with
:32:55. > :32:59.the horse's position. In those days, they were together and if you made
:32:59. > :33:04.an infringement at any stage in race. That was it, you were out.
:33:05. > :33:11.You could be thrown right out. The bell's going! The bell's going,
:33:11. > :33:15.can you hear the bell?! Which means the jockeys are going out - a
:33:15. > :33:18.lovely evening now -- the Tercentenary Stakes are next.
:33:18. > :33:28.It's lovely at the moment, the sun It's lovely at the moment, the sun
:33:28. > :33:54.
:33:54. > :34:00.is shiening a lovely scene in the similar head to High C haparal.
:34:01. > :34:05.He's taken to it so far. Just behind him is Pisco Sour who ran in
:34:05. > :34:09.the Derby. How does he look, having taken in a tough race there?
:34:09. > :34:14.looks amazing, he really does. The trainer's done rather well. I just
:34:14. > :34:18.think that this horse, for me, for a horse who had such a tough race
:34:18. > :34:24.in what was the hardest race for three-year-olds, he looks well.
:34:24. > :34:28.Michael Stoute has a runner who is well fancied, won three of four
:34:28. > :34:32.starts, Tazahum. Only narrowly got up to win at Sandown last time, but
:34:32. > :34:36.looked as though the trip would be in his favour today? Like this
:34:36. > :34:40.horse and Michael Stoute's been quiet this week, not many runners.
:34:40. > :34:48.For that reason, anything he does run, you've got to have a look at
:34:48. > :34:53.it. One won here last night in the last race, very unlucky fourth.
:34:53. > :34:59.Ryan Moore is on the next one. He's clearly a horse of potential, this
:34:59. > :35:05.one, how does he look to you, Mick? Really well. I think when you see a
:35:05. > :35:09.horse like this, he won a maiden on soft ground at the Curragh, very
:35:09. > :35:18.impressively. Such an abundance of talent in that yard alBallydoyle.
:35:18. > :35:22.Why do they need to run a horse like this unless they think he's so
:35:22. > :35:25.good. Frankie Dettori rides number five, Hunter's Light. He was a
:35:25. > :35:30.surprise winner at a race in Newmarket. If you watch the race,
:35:30. > :35:34.it was almost as though they didn't believe he could win the way he was
:35:34. > :35:38.ridden. He got up that day and looks these he's capable of more
:35:38. > :35:41.with a great pedigree. We've already seen this week at Royal
:35:41. > :35:45.Ascot, the Godolphin colours, they've been carryed to victory
:35:45. > :35:51.already, in the frame a few times and they're on a bit of a roll.
:35:51. > :35:55.What about Richard Hannon's team? Jamie Spencer's teaming up can
:35:55. > :35:58.Alburns. Won a big sales race at the start of the year, he was
:35:58. > :36:03.gelded because he was a little naughty last year, they thought
:36:03. > :36:07.that would calm him down. Seemed to work for his first few starts but
:36:07. > :36:10.he was then a little disappointing? Yes, and you just wonder has the
:36:10. > :36:14.novelty of the operation worn off. I think it's a very tough race and
:36:14. > :36:19.I think it's normally won by a progressive type and we've seen a
:36:19. > :36:23.few of these here. Finally, I think it's always worth mentioning Henry
:36:24. > :36:29.Cecil's horse in this race, Midsummer Sun. Only had two runs,
:36:29. > :36:33.his last win was easy and straightforward a win in a maiden.
:36:33. > :36:37.Another horse who has a tremendous pedigree? We don't know how good he
:36:37. > :36:41.is, that's the beauty of this race, there could be a real star
:36:41. > :36:45.unearthed here this afternoon. Which is the star for you?
:36:45. > :36:52.Marksmanship is the one that takes the eye as they walk around here.
:36:52. > :36:55.The next race coming up, as the Tercentenary Stakes, a mile and a
:36:55. > :36:59.quarter. Some interesting types here, including the one the lads
:36:59. > :37:04.were talking about, Tazahum. I really do think that will go very
:37:04. > :37:14.close here. Let's have a look at the runners and riders as they come
:37:14. > :37:14.
:37:14. > :38:01.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 62 seconds
:38:01. > :38:11.taking. A mile and a quarter. The same as yesterday's Prince of Wales
:38:11. > :38:26.
:38:26. > :38:36.Tercentenary Stakes, our 5 o'clock today. This Tercentenary Stakes is
:38:36. > :38:51.
:38:51. > :38:57.big price on Happy Today. Plenty of punters happy with the results. 33-
:38:57. > :39:01.1 into 18-1. We are Happy Today as well, aren't we? Absolutely! Here
:39:01. > :39:06.is Marksmanship make his way out on to the track, the big gamble of the
:39:06. > :39:14.day, I suppose, because Connections also had Fame And Glory, the winner
:39:14. > :39:17.of the Gold Cup which appeared to be an equally big gamble. We know
:39:17. > :39:27.that he comes from a powerful stable, they've decided to drop him
:39:27. > :39:29.
:39:29. > :39:34.in at the deep end on his second appearance and the owners like him.
:39:34. > :39:38.Also the fact he won a mile and a quarter maiden in heavy ground at
:39:38. > :39:46.the Curragh on his only start. This race is on softish ground and it's
:39:46. > :39:52.only a mofr and a quarter, so two positives for him as well -- only a
:39:52. > :40:00.mile and a quarter. Number Ten, Midsummer Sun, trained by Henry
:40:00. > :40:05.Cescle. He's had a couple of running in his career -- Henry
:40:05. > :40:12.Cecil. It was a straightforward win for him at Haydock. He's open to
:40:12. > :40:15.bundles of improvement, isn't he, Mick? It is. Like we said in the
:40:15. > :40:19.parade ring, a lot of the horses have untapped opiniontial and we
:40:19. > :40:24.don't really know how good some of them can be.
:40:24. > :40:31.This is the other one I think is interesting, Slumber, number 14.
:40:31. > :40:35.Won at Epsom, third in the Chester Vase. Barry Hills likes to have a
:40:35. > :40:41.run in the Derby to test them out. He was thinking at some stage this
:40:41. > :40:45.was capable of running in a Derby. He's dropped in from a mile and a
:40:45. > :40:49.half to a mile and a quarter. The good stable thinks a lot of the
:40:49. > :40:53.horse. The other thing about this horse is that physically he seems
:40:53. > :40:58.to be bigger and stronger and more developed than quite a few in this
:40:58. > :41:02.race who're still likely raced. OK he's only had three runs but he's a
:41:02. > :41:08.big, strong three-year-old. Certainly is. You would like to
:41:08. > :41:18.know is there significance in the cap. I'm sure Prince Abdullah won't
:41:18. > :41:20.
:41:20. > :41:23.mind which cap it wears, as long as it wins. This is Laajooj, Mickael
:41:23. > :41:26.Barzalona. Had a couple of wins from his three starts so far this
:41:26. > :41:31.year. Another one which is improving, although I thought a
:41:31. > :41:35.couple of the others might have a bit more improvement in them than
:41:35. > :41:40.he does? I would agree with that. He looks more exposed, from what
:41:40. > :41:45.we've seen so far. A very keen running sort as well isn't he, this
:41:45. > :41:55.fella? Looked like he was doing too much way early on in the previous
:41:55. > :42:02.
:42:02. > :42:10.race. Your favourite is favourite. 20,000. Bangers and
:42:10. > :42:14.mash cash, John! Happy Today was well behind Frankel
:42:14. > :42:23.in the 2000 Guineas, ran previously in the Stakes in Newmarket and
:42:23. > :42:27.showed good form that day. He did, and you just have to say, he's been
:42:27. > :42:32.unlucky so far this week, the owner, he'll be hoping this horse can put
:42:32. > :42:36.up a good display. Also unlucky, it's 13, downhill and not a very
:42:36. > :42:41.long run to the first turn here and races with a number of runners on
:42:41. > :42:46.this track tend to be very rough in the early part. They do, as well
:42:46. > :42:56.you have got the worse ground as well where you start off. The boys
:42:56. > :43:05.
:43:05. > :43:10.said this is where the ground is at up at the 100-30 favourite. He's in
:43:10. > :43:16.the centre going in. The one big problem, I suppose, that Ryan Moore
:43:16. > :43:20.might have, as he looked free on the post, he'll need him to settle
:43:20. > :43:29.early on. Only a few more to go. Back to Jim.
:43:29. > :43:36.Last couple going in. Here Frankie. Only got four on his outside. A
:43:36. > :43:39.mile and a quarter, set to go. Racing. Even despatched to Slim
:43:39. > :43:45.Shadey on the inside, one of the first away, Slumber in the early
:43:45. > :43:48.stages away. Going fast is Happy Today. Moriarty driving through on
:43:48. > :43:54.the inside. Frankie Dettori right there in the centre on Hunter's
:43:54. > :43:58.Light as they charge to Swindley Bottom. Very deep is Happy Today
:43:58. > :44:03.who just shows the way. Hunter's Light just slipping in behind him.
:44:03. > :44:07.In second is Moriarty and third is Hunter's Light, followed by Maali
:44:07. > :44:13.as they race into Swindley Bottom. Tazahum can't get on the track at
:44:13. > :44:18.all. The striped cap. In behind them is Slumber positioned on the
:44:18. > :44:23.inside. Pisco Sour. Midsummer Sun. They start to climb uphill from
:44:23. > :44:27.Swindley Bottom. Further back in the field at this stage, back on
:44:27. > :44:31.the inside of runners is Loving Spirit giving them a fair start.
:44:31. > :44:35.The leader here on the inside is still Happy Today. Deeper on the
:44:35. > :44:41.track in the Royal blue of Godolphin is Hunter's Light. On the
:44:41. > :44:47.inside, Moriarty in the centre. Next with the striped cap, Maali,
:44:47. > :44:51.followed by Tazahum. Slumber is behind them. Pisco Sour. Midsummer
:44:51. > :44:53.Sun and Slim Shadey. Alkimos is very wide, starting to run as they
:44:53. > :44:59.come up towards the entrance to the home straight.
:44:59. > :45:03.Well back in the field too with the white cap, Laajooj, giving them a
:45:03. > :45:07.long start. Auld Burns is out back. On the turn for home now, Happy
:45:07. > :45:11.Today on the inside, Hunter's Light in second, Moriarty starting to
:45:11. > :45:15.slip back. Coming into it now, Tazahum, wide throughout. Further
:45:15. > :45:19.back in the field, Pisco Sour, running on particularly well, as
:45:19. > :45:23.they race up inside the two. Heading for home now, Frankie
:45:23. > :45:27.Dettori on Hunter's Light. Grabbed immediately by Pisco Sour. Here is
:45:27. > :45:33.Alkimos down the outside with a run and they've kicked away from
:45:33. > :45:38.Tazahum and Laajooj from a long way back. Racing up just inside the
:45:38. > :45:43.final furlong, Pisco Sour. Alkimos the danger. They're clear of the
:45:43. > :45:49.pack. Pisco Sour is in front. A double for Hughy Morrison as Pisco
:45:49. > :45:52.Sour wins the money. Alkimos is second. Third Slumber, followed by
:45:52. > :46:00.Specific Gravity and Marksmanship who came from nowhere. Back in the
:46:00. > :46:05.field, Tazahum, followed by Specific Gravity who's well backed
:46:05. > :46:11.with Auld Burns. Pisco Sour is the winner of the Tercentenary Stakes
:46:11. > :46:16.at 20-1. Jimmy Fortune in the saddle, a
:46:16. > :46:23.double for Hughy Morrison, as Pisco Sour gets the money.
:46:23. > :46:31.And he gets there by a couple of lengths. Alkimos in second. Then in
:46:31. > :46:37.third, Slumber. Specific Gravity, Tazahum, Laajooj, Marksmanship,
:46:37. > :46:42.light laigt light was next. Ahlaain behind them -- Hunter's Light. Auld
:46:42. > :46:50.Burns. Moriarty was there for a long way, Maali, Midsummer Sun.
:46:50. > :46:56.Then a gap to Loving Spirit. Still a couple more to come.
:46:56. > :47:01.There's Happy Today. Very wide and used up a lot of gas early and Slim
:47:01. > :47:11.Shadey last. Pisco Sour, who ran so well in the dandy Stakes and also
:47:11. > :47:25.
:47:25. > :47:28.ran in the Derby and deserved that background, the sun's still shining
:47:28. > :47:36.on Pisco Sour. He's the first horse from the Derby
:47:36. > :47:40.to have run again, finished ninth earlier, for Jimmy Fortune, leading
:47:40. > :47:44.jockey here in 2007 with five winners, it's been lean for him
:47:44. > :47:52.since then, one in 2008, one in 2009, none last year, here he is
:47:52. > :47:58.back on the winners' board, Kieren Fallon on the second horse, Alkimos.
:47:58. > :48:02.Slumber couldn't get out when he wanted to. He'd never have gotten
:48:02. > :48:06.to the front two, would have been interesting had he got there. Pisco
:48:06. > :48:11.Sour wins the Tercentenary Stakes. He finished a nice third at York
:48:11. > :48:16.and he went into the Derby with high hopes, but things went
:48:16. > :48:26.drastically wrong that day, but today things have gone absolutely
:48:26. > :48:30.
:48:30. > :48:34.famously. I've forgotten his name... Keiron or Jimmy? Jimmy Fortune.
:48:34. > :48:39.He's a guy who's one of the strongest in the weighing room, he
:48:39. > :48:43.rides really well, it's nice to see that Jimmy's got himself a real
:48:43. > :48:48.Royal Ascot winner. And a golden day for Hughy Morrison,
:48:48. > :48:57.who's with Rishi now? The second winner a row here. A
:48:57. > :49:01.magical moment? Unbelievable, yes. We thought heerd run well, but the
:49:01. > :49:06.way Pisco Sour put this horse to bed on the gallops on Saturday, we
:49:06. > :49:11.thought he'd done well. You can forget about the Derby, he was too
:49:11. > :49:15.fresh, I didn't do enough with him probably after the Ebor, he was
:49:15. > :49:20.jarred up and we had to look after him. He came out of the Derby
:49:20. > :49:25.fantastic and you must congratulate Epsom for the wonderful ground he
:49:25. > :49:31.had that day because he came out better than when we went in.
:49:31. > :49:35.Terrific Royal Ascot relationship with Jimmy Fortune? First Ascot
:49:35. > :49:39.winners and that's our third Ascot winner we've had with him. You have
:49:39. > :49:43.always believed in this horse. In the build-up to the Derby, even
:49:43. > :49:48.though you are admitting trainer error, you were saying you thought
:49:48. > :49:53.he could win a big race? I knew if we could settle him, he'd have a
:49:53. > :49:57.serious chance and Jimmy gave it a good job. 33-1 for the Ladbrokes St
:49:57. > :50:01.Leger, is that a potential target for him? I thought it was until he
:50:01. > :50:11.ran too free at Epsom, but he'll be looking at that now. Well done
:50:11. > :50:15.today. Thank you. This is a landmark for Jimmy Fortune because
:50:15. > :50:24.he's one of the best around. There's no doubt about that. He's
:50:24. > :50:31.ridden 13 winners for the season. It's been a couple of years, as
:50:31. > :50:37.Claire said, since he's been in the winners' enclosure. There's the
:50:37. > :50:44.winning owner, a proud man after the Tercentenary Stakes. When
:50:44. > :50:51.you're hot, you're hot and Hughie Morrison wins with Pisco Sour.
:50:51. > :50:58.the last race, the big gamble of the morning as well, Apache, was
:50:58. > :51:02.7.5-1 this morning. Can Apache come out the shadows, John? Well, in
:51:02. > :51:05.fashion today, we've had a real treat. Not sure that any one
:51:05. > :51:11.particular style has emerged, but we've seen lots of different
:51:11. > :51:15.classic styles, a lot of fun and, in terms of milinary, how do you
:51:15. > :51:18.feel about today? I've been spoilt and the ladies really excelled,
:51:18. > :51:22.they really went to town and expressed themselves. That's what
:51:22. > :51:28.the whole of this celebration is about. It is. About enjoying
:51:28. > :51:34.yourself, having fun, not being overly serious. Let's have a look
:51:34. > :51:38.at an image, this lady, beautiful, like a Hollywood movie star.
:51:38. > :51:46.There's a hint towards the '40s, effortless, graceful, the detailing
:51:46. > :51:48.of the gloves and that beautiful cinched in waist, she makes this
:51:48. > :51:52.look effortless and that's the secret of pulling off that look.
:51:53. > :51:57.Let's hope for more of that tomorrow. Tomorrow, we are on air
:51:57. > :52:00.again at 1.45, five races for you on BBC One and BBC Two and the
:52:00. > :52:03.final race again on the red button, which is where we are going shortly
:52:03. > :52:11.for the coverage of the King George V Stakes. Tomorrow, the feature
:52:11. > :52:18.will be the Coronation straick Stakes and we have an American
:52:18. > :52:28.runner. We haven't had a big international winner. She'll be
:52:28. > :52:29.
:52:29. > :52:35.taken -- taking on lots of others. Should be a good day. King Edward
:52:35. > :52:39.VII Stakes as well, known as the Ascot Derby. Jimmy Fortune is
:52:39. > :52:45.getting congratulations from the other jockeys at the moment. We'll
:52:45. > :52:50.talk to him on the red button, as well as reviewing Gold Cup day. The
:52:50. > :52:53.guys in the betting ring talked about Apache. Joseph O'Brien riding
