:01:00. > :01:04.meeting, the best you will find anywhere in the world. The crowds

:01:05. > :01:09.are pouring in in their finery for the first day of Royal Ascot and we

:01:09. > :01:14.have ahead of us five days of top class flat racing. This place is

:01:14. > :01:17.special because it's stood the test of time for 300 years. Horses have

:01:17. > :01:21.been racing here at Ascot and the people come because it's a social

:01:21. > :01:27.occasion, but a it has a sprinkling of star dust, because it gives you

:01:27. > :01:32.an adrenaline surge. It's special and it's historic.

:01:32. > :01:37.You can judge from the picture that it's sunny and warm here. The other

:01:37. > :01:44.big race was the King Edward the Summer Stakes, the Ascot Derby.

:01:44. > :01:54.They're away coming to the half mile now. You will see masterful

:01:54. > :02:00.

:02:00. > :02:05.timing and you will also see Her Majesty. Trained by Henry Cecil...

:02:05. > :02:09.Racing towards the line... This is one of the biggest and best days

:02:09. > :02:19.anywhere in the world because it combines top class sport with high-

:02:19. > :02:20.

:02:20. > :02:24.class fashion. In front is Goldikova. Goes on to win the St

:02:24. > :02:30.James's Palace. He wins his fourth Ascot gold. There are moments in

:02:30. > :02:34.life when you want to be able to say "I was there".

:02:34. > :02:37.Alongside me, as always, former champion jockey willy Carson,

:02:37. > :02:43.leading jockey here three times at the Royal meeting. How long ago did

:02:43. > :02:47.you first come here? 45 years ago, a long time ago. Do you still get

:02:47. > :02:51.excited? Very much so. Especially on a day like today when we are

:02:51. > :02:56.going into the Royal meeting. We are going in with Canford Cliffs,

:02:56. > :03:01.rated a very high cult, virtually unbeaten over a mile and he's

:03:01. > :03:05.taking on Goldikova, the Queen of horse racing. And then, not to be

:03:05. > :03:10.outdone by that, we've got Frankel, rated the best horse in the whole

:03:10. > :03:15.world in the St James Palace Stakes, so we are in for a big treat. Don't

:03:15. > :03:19.go away. We have racing Royalty and the Royal Family as well, the Royal

:03:19. > :03:23.procession will be starting shortly. People really get the chance to

:03:23. > :03:27.dress up here in their finery. It's a parade ring in more ways than one

:03:27. > :03:33.and a wonderful day for it as well. The sun is shining, the wind is

:03:33. > :03:39.fairly light. There are the two top American jockeys, Mike Smith and

:03:39. > :03:43.Johnny Velazquez. Paul Hanagan's got a good book of rids and Olivier

:03:43. > :03:51.pel aye will be riding. Aidan O'Brien is hot favourite to be

:03:51. > :03:56.leading trainer over the whole week. There's the Derby winning jockey

:03:57. > :04:01.Michel Barzalona. Ryan Moore's been doing pitchforking to help out the

:04:01. > :04:06.team and the warm welcome was for the newly Knighted Henry Cecil. One

:04:06. > :04:10.person who's not here is Kieren Fallon. Never fails to surprise us.

:04:10. > :04:15.Always surprises us. He could have rode the last winner. His horse was

:04:15. > :04:19.a favourite for the last race and he's not turning up. He's Cricked a

:04:19. > :04:28.neck and is having intensive physio today. Has a good book of rides

:04:28. > :04:32.tomorrow, we expect him here then. Let's have a look at some of the

:04:32. > :04:37.stars who are here. The most consistent and successful filly the

:04:37. > :04:41.world has ever seen. 13 group ones in the bag and aiming for the top,

:04:41. > :04:45.Goldikova is gold plated. But in Canford Cliffs, she has

:04:45. > :04:50.serious competition. He has an lectern of foot and will be played

:04:50. > :04:53.late by the great weighter, Richard Hughes. It's an all international

:04:53. > :04:58.King's stand, eight different nations represented and the

:04:58. > :05:06.favourite is the Australian speedster Star Witness. The Aussies

:05:06. > :05:13.have won this several times. Many believe Frankel is unbeatable.

:05:13. > :05:17.Hold on tight, we will enjoy the ride at 3.45, none more so than

:05:17. > :05:24.Henry Cecil who thinks the world of his horse. The Dubai World Cup

:05:24. > :05:29.winning jockey Mirco Demuro will be running. We have the fashion stakes

:05:29. > :05:36.as well. People watching is a sport in its own right and leading the

:05:36. > :05:40.fashion team is Suzie perry. Down here in the ring we'll keep

:05:40. > :05:44.you up-to-date with the movers and shakers over what will be a

:05:44. > :05:50.fabulous five days. Marvellous, John. To start with this first race,

:05:50. > :05:55.it could be the best of the week. We have three Group 1s, but it's a

:05:55. > :06:01.tricky card, isn't it? Frankel as well. Marvellous. What about the

:06:01. > :06:08.morning movers? Yes, Canford Cliffs in the first race has been 6-4, is

:06:08. > :06:16.now 5-4, massive bet went on that. Frankel in the 3.45 was 4-9 earlier,

:06:17. > :06:22.it's now 11-4 on Frankel and Zigato was 5-1, now 4-1. Frankel, massive

:06:22. > :06:27.amounts of money for this horse. There is an early tip isn't there,

:06:27. > :06:33.something about dresses? Queen's hat - this year we are

:06:33. > :06:36.privileged to have Jennie Bond. Royal Correspondent?! Yes and this

:06:36. > :06:41.morning I looked at her eyes. I mentioned to you the colour of the

:06:41. > :06:47.hat and when I said yellow, her eyes went a bit like that. She's a

:06:47. > :06:50.good judge, Jennie Bond, I have a feeling the Queen's hat could be

:06:50. > :06:56.yellow. Everybody filing past me to see the Royal procession to see

:06:56. > :06:59.what the Queen is wearing. For the past 300 years, folks haven't only

:06:59. > :07:02.been pondering which horses to back here, but also what to wear. I'll

:07:02. > :07:08.wander around looking at the fashion from high street all the

:07:08. > :07:11.way to high fashion. Later, I'll speak to top designer, Amanda

:07:11. > :07:14.Wakeley and I'll share that experience with one of Britain's

:07:14. > :07:19.top supermodels. Welcome to the coverage. Thank you very much.

:07:19. > :07:23.are a big horse racing fan, aren't you? I am, they're magnificent

:07:23. > :07:27.beasts, the four-legged friends. You were modelling away here. What

:07:27. > :07:31.is it about fashion and Ascot? two go hand in hand. It's a chance

:07:31. > :07:35.for everyone to wear their finest regalia, go for it, bring on the

:07:35. > :07:38.colour and the broad rimmed hats. Wonderful. Very exciting. We have

:07:38. > :07:41.been looking at some of the stuff coming through the gates, what

:07:41. > :07:46.people are wearing. What have you spotted that you really enjoyed

:07:46. > :07:51.looking at? Mainly the hats. People have really gone for it this season.

:07:51. > :07:56.They've gone for big and loud and colourful and feathers and it's

:07:56. > :07:59.none of the dinghy little fascinators, people have gone all

:07:59. > :08:06.out, very proud of the British today. One particular colour that

:08:06. > :08:10.seems to be standing out today? Lots of blue and pink. Wonderful

:08:10. > :08:13.monochromes. Look at that fabulous yellow hat. Corals. Very summery

:08:13. > :08:17.and bright. We are expecting to see a lot more of that. Talking about

:08:17. > :08:21.fashion, we can't go any further without mentioning the new global

:08:21. > :08:24.fashion icon can we, our very own Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine

:08:24. > :08:30.Middleton, she's been simply stunning this year? She has. She's

:08:30. > :08:35.really stepped up to her role. Her McQueen dress was exquisite and

:08:35. > :08:39.everything about the wedding, I was in fits, had tears rolling down my

:08:39. > :08:45.eyes. This wonderful Jenny Packham number, she dresses very well for

:08:45. > :08:48.her skin tone. Elegant. At the Derby a week or so ago. And back

:08:48. > :08:52.with McQueen for the fantastic jacket she was wearing? She knows

:08:52. > :08:56.her fashion. And she has a way of being able to mix high street and

:08:56. > :09:01.high fashion. But will she be here this week? We have our fingers

:09:01. > :09:05.crossed. My Lords, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the start of

:09:05. > :09:09.Royal Ascot, 2011. We are about to introduce some of the leading

:09:09. > :09:14.jockeys expected to play a significant role over the next five

:09:14. > :09:18.days. First of all, a man who's ridden 23 winners at the Royal

:09:18. > :09:23.meeting, he rides Canford Cliffs in the first race in the Clash of the

:09:23. > :09:33.Titans against Goldikova from France in our very first race.

:09:33. > :09:46.

:09:46. > :09:49.ridden three winners at Royal Ascot and has the envyious prospect of

:09:49. > :09:53.partnering the brilliant Frankel later today. Joining him is three

:09:53. > :10:03.time champion jockey and the odds on favourite to be this week's top

:10:03. > :10:11.

:10:11. > :10:15.jockey, put your hands together for promise. Our next jockey is the

:10:15. > :10:20.current champion after riding 205 winners last year. He's had two

:10:20. > :10:30.Royal Ascot wins so far. He's one of the outstanding young riders at

:10:30. > :10:39.

:10:39. > :10:44.the moment. Please welcome Paul French teenager produced an

:10:44. > :10:54.exhilarating ride to win the Epsom Derby at his very first attempt.

:10:54. > :11:13.

:11:13. > :11:22.jockey who's already tasted success at Royal Ascot in 2009 when Scenic

:11:22. > :11:32.Blast won the King stand Stakes. He partners the Budapest Bullet. A

:11:32. > :11:46.

:11:46. > :11:50.round of applause for Stephen legends from America. One is fresh

:11:50. > :11:53.from winning the Kentucky Derby last month and has ridden two Royal

:11:53. > :11:59.Ascot winners, the other is a member of racing's hall of fame in

:11:59. > :12:04.the States and had the glory of partnering the great Zenatta during

:12:04. > :12:14.her career. Royal Ascot's delighted to have Mike Smith and Johnny

:12:14. > :12:30.

:12:30. > :12:35.Royal Ascot winners and achieved some of his greatest feats at this

:12:35. > :12:45.course, including the famous, magistrate Magnificent Seven.

:12:45. > :13:00.

:13:00. > :13:03.Ladies and gentlemen, here he is, build-up by Gary and it's been an

:13:03. > :13:08.incredibly busy year already for the Royals? I know, they must be

:13:08. > :13:11.exhausted. Not to mention the horses, they've been on parade as

:13:11. > :13:16.well. The Royal Wedding fantastic, then all the celebrations of the

:13:16. > :13:19.90th for the Duke. Here come the sights that make Royal Ascot

:13:19. > :13:23.utterly unique. So many of the crowd have themselves in position

:13:23. > :13:33.to see the Royal procession coming through the Golden Gates at the top

:13:33. > :13:34.

:13:34. > :13:37.of the straight mile here at Ascot. The Windsor Greys leading the way,

:13:37. > :13:42.looking resplendent. Such a fantastic scene on a wonderful day.

:13:42. > :13:46.I think the Queen looks as if she's wearing green. Oh, it is, look,

:13:46. > :13:50.it's green. Now, whatever Gary says, the first word that came out of my

:13:50. > :13:54.mouth this morning was green. There are witnesses, there really are.

:13:54. > :14:01.the first carriage, Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the

:14:01. > :14:06.Duke of Edinburgh. Alongside them and facing opposite, the Duke of

:14:06. > :14:11.York and prince Khaled Abdullah, the owner of Frankel. I wonder what

:14:11. > :14:18.is going through his head right now. He has a runner in the first race

:14:18. > :14:24.He'll be busy with horses all week. Cityscape is the first. In the

:14:24. > :14:30.second carriage, the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Beatrice and

:14:30. > :14:38.Princess Eugeney, Prince Charles and Camilla.

:14:38. > :14:41.All eyes on the hat which sold on eBay, the one she wore for the

:14:41. > :14:48.Royal Wedding. She raised 81,000 for UNICEF with that hat. Today,

:14:48. > :14:56.she is wearing something a little less grand, I think. Gone for a

:14:56. > :15:04.simpler look. Beatrice has finished her finals at Goldsmith university,

:15:04. > :15:13.studied history and history of ideas. Carriage three, we find the

:15:13. > :15:17.Cowan December of Delhusi. One of the largest landowners in all of

:15:17. > :15:21.Ireland. The Duchess, Alexandra, she's a very close friend of the

:15:21. > :15:28.Duke of Edinburgh, distant relative of him actually and direct

:15:28. > :15:32.descendant of the Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin. As for the Earl

:15:32. > :15:42.and countess, he's the current Lord struerd of the Royal household. In

:15:42. > :15:47.carriage four, the Lord Vesty, Lady Vesty, Lady Braeborne. Lord vesty

:15:47. > :15:55.is facing backwards on the far side. He's a regular isn't he. Former

:15:55. > :16:00.chairman of Cheltenham racecourse, gave it up after 21 years. He was

:16:00. > :16:05.riding Lord vesty in Trooping the Colour in his role as Master of the

:16:05. > :16:09.Horse. Penny Rsey, carriage driving companion of the Duke of Edinburgh,

:16:09. > :16:13.a great friend and been defriended a lot by the Queen recently as well

:16:13. > :16:20.because her husband seems to have left the family home for the

:16:20. > :16:24.Bahamas. Major Dan Rex is the Queen's Equitable we arery. A huge

:16:24. > :16:29.passion for the Queen and it will be very much at the centre of the

:16:29. > :16:34.celebrations next year. Indeed, yes. Got to look forward now to the

:16:34. > :16:41.Diamond Jubilee. It's going to be extraordinary, an extraordinary

:16:41. > :16:47.four days of celebrations. We have had an announcement of 1,000 ships

:16:47. > :16:54.for the Regatta down the Thames. Shall we take a closer look at her

:16:54. > :17:00.clothes now? Her clothes are by Ludvik. Ivory satin with pinks and

:17:00. > :17:04.greens with a green fine wool coat. That hat is by Angela Kelly.

:17:04. > :17:08.Angela's a wonderful personality, the Queen's personal assistant.

:17:08. > :17:14.She's a Scouser and she's really a friend and confidante now of the

:17:14. > :17:18.Queen. If you meet her ever, she's full of laughter and joy. Designed

:17:18. > :17:22.the coat and hat that the Queen wore at the Royal Wedding in fact.

:17:22. > :17:26.We were mentioning what a busy summer it's been with the usual

:17:26. > :17:34.society events, but added to that, the state visit to Ireland, the

:17:34. > :17:41.first by a reigning British Monarch for? Well, since George V I think,

:17:41. > :17:46.yes. Going way, way back. And also the visit here of President Obama.

:17:46. > :17:50.Then Prince Philip's 90th birthday celebrations. It's been non-stop.

:17:50. > :17:54.He was 90 on Friday, gave a most interesting interview to the BBC,

:17:54. > :17:58.to Fiona Bruce in which he showed his metal, his character. I think

:17:58. > :18:03.he won himself a few fans actually with his challenging of every

:18:03. > :18:08.single question. Then there was the service of Thanksgiving for his 90

:18:08. > :18:12.years on the day before yesterday. The Royal Family have been out in

:18:12. > :18:15.force for, well, it seems like weeks, doesn't it Having Trooping

:18:15. > :18:18.the Colour on Saturday, I just happened to have been driving a lot

:18:18. > :18:22.around that area, around Buckingham Palace recently, as one does! I've

:18:22. > :18:28.noticed a much, much bigger crowd for things like changing of the

:18:28. > :18:32.guard and also in and out of the shop as well. There's a renewed

:18:32. > :18:42.energy of interest in the Royal Family and, as a traditional, we'll

:18:42. > :18:42.

:18:42. > :19:26.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:19:26. > :19:29.Royal Ascot in 2008 when the Queen had a winner Free Agent. It was an

:19:29. > :19:33.exciting race to watch. You could see the shots of the Royal box

:19:33. > :19:37.showed the Queen getting so animated and excited. She does

:19:37. > :19:41.indeed. I do think that there was a national sort of sigh when her

:19:41. > :19:45.horse failed at the Derby, I'm afraid. Well, there was. He came

:19:45. > :19:51.with a challenging run, you know. I honestly believed he was going to

:19:51. > :19:54.win, I think everybody did. Looking at it now, the way the winner

:19:54. > :19:59.finished, you couldn't really argue that Carlton House was unlucky. Of

:19:59. > :20:03.all the people watching, the Queen was the most sanguine, practical

:20:03. > :20:07.and sensible about it saying he ran a great race and it didn't work out.

:20:07. > :20:12.She knows everything there is to know about racing. She knows all

:20:12. > :20:19.the horses in the procession, the Windsor Greys and the Cleveland

:20:19. > :20:23.Bays. When she used to ride a side saddle, she used to go to the

:20:23. > :20:26.riding mews and she'd ride side saddle which, I don't know, can you

:20:26. > :20:30.do that? Once, it's not very comfortable, takes a great deal of

:20:30. > :20:36.balance and you don't have much control because your legs are only

:20:36. > :20:39.on one side of the horse. Extraordinary for their age, 90 and

:20:39. > :20:43.85 years old and this busy programme of events. Later this

:20:43. > :20:48.year, they're off to Australia on an official tour. It's unbelievable.

:20:49. > :20:54.I was staggered to see that. That is a long trip. I know she gets to

:20:54. > :21:04.lie down, well, they both do, and that's very nice, but it's a lot to

:21:04. > :21:04.

:21:04. > :21:07.ask of a nonogenarian. Lovely to see Princess Beatrice and Eugenie.

:21:08. > :21:12.I think they're enjoying the events and it's a wonderful chance for

:21:12. > :21:18.them to spend time with their father and also their uncle, Prince

:21:18. > :21:26.Charles, who's in the carriage with them, and also the Duchess of

:21:26. > :21:32.Cornwall. Yes, they are seeing a lot of uncle and aunt. Eujenie's

:21:32. > :21:36.just finished her second year at Newcastle university -- Eugenie.

:21:36. > :21:41.She's doing a tech colour degree. When they redesigned the racecourse,

:21:41. > :21:46.one of the huge successes was the amphitheatre they've created here.

:21:46. > :21:50.It allows so many more people to see the procession up close than

:21:51. > :21:54.ever before. It's wonderful, I haven't been since the

:21:54. > :22:00.refurbishment and I'm mightily impressed. You can hear the warmth

:22:00. > :22:03.of spontaneous applause as the Queen's carriage comes around this

:22:03. > :22:06.rubberised surface. It's a very smooth surface around the outside,

:22:06. > :22:10.making sure the horses don't slip and very much the most comfortable

:22:10. > :22:14.part for the carriages. She'll have taken a good look at the course as

:22:14. > :22:18.she comes up. I'm told that John Warren said actually that she

:22:18. > :22:22.listens to the sound of the hooves of the horses, sees how the wheels

:22:22. > :22:25.are turning on the track and she knows just what the going is like

:22:25. > :22:30.now. I guess they'll have enjoyed lunch

:22:30. > :22:34.at Windsor Castle, so the Queen will have had a chance to talk to

:22:34. > :22:40.Prince Khaled Abdullah about Frankel, a horse that's excited so

:22:40. > :22:46.many in racing and the Queen will have reallyened being able to quiz

:22:46. > :22:51.him about his temperament -- really enjoyed being able to quiz him

:22:51. > :22:56.about it. She enjoys the minutiae. I wonder if she'll put a wager on

:22:56. > :23:03.I doubt that. And here they come. It's so

:23:03. > :23:11.wonderful to see it so close up. They're right behind us. And the

:23:11. > :23:15.crowd cheering and waving out. Actually, I can see people singing

:23:15. > :23:18.happy birthday to Prince Philip as well. Belatedly, yes. He didn't

:23:18. > :23:24.want any fuss, but a fuss has been made. There's been so much in the

:23:24. > :23:32.press and media about him. As the carriages go past, the most

:23:32. > :23:37.beautiful view of Princess Eugenie's small dark green hat.

:23:37. > :23:45.Princess Beatrice, alongside her as well. I think she's playing it safe.

:23:45. > :23:50.The Dutchs -- Duchess of Cornwall in pail clothes, as always. -- pale

:23:50. > :23:57.clothes. I think Angela's done a very nice

:23:57. > :24:07.job on that hat, don't you? Pale green, for those who had a bet.

:24:07. > :24:17.

:24:17. > :24:20.tomorrow, aren't you? I shall, if you invite med. You are officially

:24:20. > :24:26.invited. Thank you very much. well as her usual duties, the Queen

:24:26. > :24:32.is also going to perform a very special act today, which is

:24:32. > :24:37.unveiling a statue of Yeats, the greatest of the Gold Cup horses we

:24:37. > :24:44.have seen here, the only horse to have won the Gold Cup four times in

:24:44. > :24:48.a row from 2006 to 2009. Johnny Murtagh was on board twice the last

:24:48. > :24:55.two times he won it. On this board, of the oldest race of all, is

:24:55. > :25:04.registered, His Dominance, in the middle section of this decade.

:25:04. > :25:07.Aidan O'Brien, his trainer, and his owners, Mrs John Magna and

:25:07. > :25:11.DeanniNagle absolutely adored this horse.

:25:11. > :25:18.He's a retired stallion. Charlie longton was commissioned to create

:25:18. > :25:25.a 10% overlife sized brond of him. And he said he was keen to capture

:25:25. > :25:31.the horse's character, as well as his physical dimension -- over life

:25:31. > :25:35.sized bronze of him. He said he was regal and glided over the ground

:25:35. > :25:38.effortlessly. He said he couldn't have had a better subject. This

:25:38. > :25:45.took over 800 hours to sculpt and it's going to be unveiled for all

:25:45. > :25:55.to see for the first time, by Her Majesty, the Queen. This statue

:25:55. > :26:05.

:26:05. > :26:09.will now take pride of place in the That is a majestic sculpture and he

:26:09. > :26:13.has indeed captured the poise and length of stride just in walk that

:26:13. > :26:23.Yeats had that covered the ground. He also had an incredible kind head,

:26:23. > :26:25.

:26:25. > :26:29.strong neck and powerful, big heavy horse. That is a thing of beauty.

:26:29. > :26:34.Plenty of things you can bet on. The top jockey bet always seems to

:26:34. > :26:39.be popular. Odds on chances this week, Ryan Moore, very, very short

:26:39. > :26:44.and I don't think he's any certainty to have a winner today.

:26:44. > :26:52.He's 8-13, so for our viewers, in layman's language, that means you

:26:52. > :26:59.have to have 13 on to win 8 and you get 21. Ryan Moore, 8-13, is

:26:59. > :27:04.that any value? He'll be top jockey so it's value. But today? He'll

:27:04. > :27:08.struggle today. But on that... getting a sore neck, like Kieren

:27:08. > :27:11.Fallon here. On that basis, if you are going to back Ryan Moore and

:27:11. > :27:17.didn't think he'd have any winners, surely you would wait until

:27:17. > :27:21.tomorrow because the prices will get better. Good point. We can get

:27:21. > :27:27.some evens. I think he'll be champion jockey. We usually have

:27:27. > :27:31.your litp tips for the week. Give me a sore neck, yes. Willie's

:27:31. > :27:36.wagers. King of the week this week. A selection from each. You have

:27:36. > :27:41.picked them. What is it, Gary? thinking race two here, I've got

:27:41. > :27:47.for Prohibit each way. He's a 14-1, but he's got to come from behind

:27:47. > :27:54.and I think there'll be so much early pace upfront and I'll go for

:27:54. > :28:04.a biggie on Prohibit. Willie, you have gone for one at 5 o'clock?

:28:04. > :28:05.

:28:05. > :28:15.won't let me have the Queen so I've gone for Zigato, he's related to a

:28:15. > :28:21.filly who I won on, about five generations back! That's one of the

:28:21. > :28:29.horses that there's plenty of money for today. Was it your money, Will?

:28:29. > :28:34.No. I've gone for Plymouth Rock. Ran last year, finished best over

:28:34. > :28:39.two miles. Should get a place and should run a big race. Go on,

:28:39. > :28:46.Goldikova! Before we go, just come up here, we can see the opening

:28:46. > :28:51.prices for the toothfairy,, classic encounter, Canford Cliffs and it's

:28:51. > :28:57.6-4, Goldikova. Canford Cliffs has just left the

:28:57. > :29:02.parade to go into the paddock and he's on his way down. This is Cape

:29:02. > :29:05.Blanco trained by Aidan O'Brien, a little momentary scare for him, he

:29:05. > :29:09.lost his cool within someone emptying bottles in a nearby bin

:29:10. > :29:13.got very close to his stable and made a few loud noises and he

:29:13. > :29:17.played up for a few moments, but he's fine, calmed down. The horse

:29:17. > :29:22.we are waiting to see is number seven, the outstanding Goldikova,

:29:22. > :29:32.winner last year. She's won the Breeder's Cup. One of the great

:29:32. > :29:33.

:29:33. > :29:37.race mayors of all-time and she looks magnificent -- race mares.

:29:37. > :29:40.Good afternoon everybody, Richard Hughes is with me. An outstanding

:29:41. > :29:45.ride coming up on Canford Cliffs. Pressure? Goldikova is likely to be

:29:45. > :29:50.in front, you have to launch at the right time. That can't be easy?

:29:50. > :29:55.that's why we ride all week, to get good rides like this, and able to

:29:55. > :30:00.hold the pressure hopefully. Do you think you can beat her? I truly

:30:00. > :30:05.believe she can, yes, she's not unbeatable. I've a very good horse,

:30:05. > :30:09.with a great turn of foot. Just want the race to go my way, I don't

:30:09. > :30:13.want any pacemaker getting in my way. If I have a nice clean run, I

:30:13. > :30:17.might beat her. Looks like, with the pacemaker for Goldikova, you

:30:17. > :30:21.will get a decent gallop. That will suit your horse, yes? Cape Blanco

:30:21. > :30:25.will make sure it's a good, honest gallop. Should be a straightforward

:30:25. > :30:29.race. Tactically, do we expect to see you at the back? Ideally, I

:30:29. > :30:33.would like to follow her, but where I'm drawn, I'm not ideally placed

:30:33. > :30:41.to get in behind her, so I might end up beside her somewhere.

:30:41. > :30:45.wish you the best of luck. It will Good afternoon from the commentary

:30:45. > :30:51.box, we are on the sixth floor. We have a magnificent view up the

:30:51. > :30:57.straight and right down to Swinley Bottom. It really is some place to

:30:57. > :31:07.be and we have a fantastic line-up all week for you racing-wise. Today,

:31:07. > :31:43.

:31:43. > :31:53.all six races on the BBC. Let's We are on BBC Two for the Coventry

:31:53. > :31:53.

:31:53. > :32:39.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:32:39. > :32:46.afternoon. Eddie Ahern coming in for the ride in the 5.00pm race.

:32:46. > :32:56.CLARE BALDING: There the face of the man who has masterminded the

:32:56. > :32:56.

:32:57. > :33:03.career of Goldikova. Olivier Peslier will take the ride on her.

:33:03. > :33:07.Flash Dance is in the field to set the pace that will suit Goldikova.

:33:07. > :33:11.Freddie has said she is in fantastic form. He doesn't think

:33:11. > :33:15.she has lost any of her ability or enthusiasm for racing. It is a joy

:33:15. > :33:23.to see her still in training and the Queen has remained in the

:33:23. > :33:26.paddock to get a look, a close-up look of Goldikova and of Canford

:33:26. > :33:31.Cliffs, who is a beautifully exciting horse to watch because he

:33:31. > :33:38.unleashes his turn of foot so late on. Willie Carson is alongside me.

:33:38. > :33:44.He is almost riding it! Have you had a pick? I wish I was 20 years

:33:44. > :33:49.younger! Which one would you ride if you were? Goldikova. She is the

:33:49. > :33:53.Queen of Racing. We know Canford Cliffs is a great colt. She has won

:33:53. > :34:00.13 Group 1 races. America, here, France, you know, wherever you take

:34:01. > :34:04.her she wins. You have to go with her today. They hope she is

:34:04. > :34:10.slightly off her form and Canford Cliffs can get his chance. Let's

:34:10. > :34:17.look at the horses with Mick Fitzgerald and Rishi. The first

:34:17. > :34:22.horse, Mick, that you will talk about is the most magnificent-

:34:22. > :34:25.looking horse, Canford Cliffs. sure Richard Hannon will be

:34:25. > :34:30.delighted to see him so relaxed. There is such a buzz about the

:34:30. > :34:34.place here this afternoon. I was at Newbury the day he made his

:34:34. > :34:41.seasonal comeback, he looked big that day, he looks big today. He

:34:41. > :34:44.looks sharper big, if you know what I mean? He looks like he has

:34:44. > :34:52.thrived over the winter. He is probably approaching the peak of

:34:52. > :34:55.his career. We will find out. will need to be. Here comes Cape

:34:55. > :34:59.Blanco. Cape Blanco is a horse who has done most of his racing over

:34:59. > :35:03.further than today's distance. He looks a lengthy horse as opposed to

:35:03. > :35:08.the rounded power of a horse like Canford Cliffs? Yeah, he's a horse

:35:08. > :35:14.who has not tried this trip that often. I think that it's a brave

:35:14. > :35:18.move by the O'Brien camp, but who are we to argue? Frankie Dettori

:35:18. > :35:24.has said that his favourite racehorse in training at the moment

:35:24. > :35:30.is Rio de La Plata and he is on board. It's always one to be

:35:30. > :35:35.respected, but he has a bit to do? He has. He looked to be very

:35:35. > :35:41.unluckily yst time at Epsom. It looked like -- unlucky last time at

:35:41. > :35:46.Epsom. It looked like he was going to win but he didn't get home.

:35:46. > :35:50.Canford Cliffs? What a treat we have in the first race. A wonderful

:35:50. > :35:54.start to the Royal Ascot 2011. Royal Ascot with Canford Cliffs and

:35:54. > :35:58.Goldikova in the first race. It is almost too good to believe. I think

:35:58. > :36:03.Canford Cliffs is probably the best-looking horse in the race.

:36:03. > :36:07.Goldikova, her record of 13 Group 1 wins is outstanding. We talk about

:36:07. > :36:12.her place in history. It's already assured. What she can do this

:36:12. > :36:19.evening could be more special? Freddie Head has got it right more

:36:19. > :36:24.often than not. CLARE BALDING: Three Group 1 races

:36:24. > :36:28.in a row and we have a parade in front of the grandstands led by

:36:28. > :36:38.Canford Cliffs, the four-year-old who is such an exciting miler. He

:36:38. > :36:39.

:36:39. > :36:44.has won the Lockinge. Today could be his day. A huge crowd here.

:36:44. > :36:50.Everybody getting used to the new lay-out and enjoying the expanse of

:36:50. > :36:54.this new grandstand that stretches right down the course. Number 2 is

:36:54. > :36:59.Cape Blanco, trained by Aidan O'Brien, who is helping lead the

:36:59. > :37:04.horse out on to the course. Cityscape is getting very fractious.

:37:04. > :37:10.Ryan Moore riding this one for Roger Charlton. It looks like he

:37:10. > :37:16.will break the Parade. We then have Ransom Note who looks much more

:37:16. > :37:21.relaxed. A 66-1 shot. Has Ascot form. Won the Britannia Handicap

:37:21. > :37:30.last year. Has finished well behind Goldikova in a Group 1 last time

:37:30. > :37:34.out. Rio de La Plata comes next. Frankie Dettori, who got the

:37:34. > :37:38.biggest cheer of all, is on his favourite racecourse. Finished

:37:38. > :37:45.third at Epsom. It was all right. But he is dropping back to a mile

:37:45. > :37:49.here. Has won over a mile and a quarter. Then we have Flash Dance,

:37:49. > :37:57.Mickael Barzalona. He is in there to make sure the pace is good and

:37:57. > :38:02.steady for the wonder mare, Goldikova. Olivier Peslier, he

:38:02. > :38:08.adores this filly. She is truly exceptional. It is a wonderful race

:38:08. > :38:15.to start off Royal Ascot 2011. It is a head-to-head, on paper at

:38:16. > :38:25.least, between Goldikova and Canford Cliffs. Goldikova is

:38:25. > :38:29.scintillating! A true champion! Three Breeders' Cups! Canford

:38:29. > :38:39.Cliffs is coming home quite strongly. Canford Cliffs sweeps to

:38:39. > :38:41.

:38:41. > :38:49.the front! He shows what a good horse he is. Goldikova got there!

:38:49. > :38:52.It's a record. Canford Cliffs, it is his best ride. Goldikova under

:38:52. > :39:00.the whip. Canford Cliffs is going to get up. Canford Cliffs has won

:39:00. > :39:10.it! Amazing! We talk about whipping... Goldikova makes it

:39:10. > :39:16.

:39:16. > :39:20.mile is officially good. On the round course it is slightly easier.

:39:20. > :39:23.Mick, it is going to get drier all the time? It is. The weather is

:39:23. > :39:26.supposed to change after today. Anybody who comes here this

:39:26. > :39:30.afternoon, they will be delighted with what they will see. It will

:39:30. > :39:34.suit some horses better than others. The stalls are based in the middle

:39:34. > :39:43.of the racecourse. But tradition is that the horses tend to make their

:39:43. > :39:50.way over to the stands side rail. think it will happen in the Queen

:39:50. > :39:57.Anne. Who do you think will win this opening race? I'm a huge fan

:39:57. > :40:05.of Canford Cliffs. I want Richard Hughes to kick this meet off with a

:40:05. > :40:12.win. The Queen Anne Stakes forms part of the British Champions

:40:12. > :40:18.Series. The Queen Anne Stakes is run at Ascot, one of my favourite

:40:18. > :40:22.tracks. It is a feature of the first day. It is run over a mile

:40:22. > :40:28.straight. The stalls are usually basically set in the middle. The

:40:28. > :40:36.trend is that the horses tend to win from the stands side position.

:40:36. > :40:40.I won this race six times and it is one of my favourite races.

:40:40. > :40:44.CLARE BALDING: Richard Hughes is hoping this year will be his year.

:40:44. > :40:48.This is Canford Cliffs. Reading Richard Hughes in The Racing Post

:40:48. > :40:52.this morning, talking about riding here. He said, "Royal Ascot is all

:40:52. > :40:58.about confidence. To gain that confidence, it is great to have

:40:58. > :41:02.that early winner." That is what he will need to do today. Is he right

:41:02. > :41:09.on the quarters of Goldikova, is that where he sits, Willie? I would

:41:09. > :41:14.say he will try and get right behind and get a draft into the

:41:14. > :41:20.furlong marker and then if he is good enough... Press the KERS

:41:20. > :41:29.button! Yes, if he is good enough. The thing is, they are going to

:41:29. > :41:32.leave some score sh -- scorch marks behind them. What a specimen of a

:41:32. > :41:36.horse. Goldikova on the far side there with the white cap. We will

:41:36. > :41:43.get a clearer view of her when Flash Dance moves out of the way.

:41:43. > :41:48.She is such a lovely relaxed filly. She is not what you would call

:41:48. > :41:54.beautiful. She is beautiful because she's won 13 Group 1s. I love the

:41:54. > :41:59.fact that she carries her head low. She gets a grip of the ground. She

:41:59. > :42:04.is a world record breaker, this filly. If she wins today, it will

:42:04. > :42:09.be her 14th Group 1. Well, we have just had the unveiling of Yeats who

:42:09. > :42:14.has won all those Gold Cups, no doubt we might end up getting a

:42:14. > :42:17.statue of this filly because she is - this record possibly will never

:42:17. > :42:22.ever be broken again. Let's see if she is any closer to Canford Cliffs

:42:22. > :42:32.in the betting. Where's the money going, John? Well, there's been a

:42:32. > :42:39.

:42:39. > :42:46.significant move, it is Canford Cliffs. Goldikova 6-4. That will go.

:42:46. > :42:50.That is now - in my eyes that will be 11-8 any minute. Don't forget

:42:50. > :42:56.the early bet this morning, 40,000 Canford Cliffs. Goldikova is going

:42:56. > :43:02.to be well backed now, John. there is to be an upset in this

:43:02. > :43:07.race, and this is it... Cape Blanco is a horse that competed over seven

:43:07. > :43:15.furlongs as a two-year-old at the top level. Then he went from the

:43:15. > :43:18.seven furlongs and only competed at a mile and a quarter. He's always

:43:18. > :43:25.found them just a bit too good for him over this distance. Could this

:43:25. > :43:30.mile be the correct distance for him? He is really a strong

:43:30. > :43:34.individual, where Canford Cliffs is elegant. For Jamie Spencer, it is

:43:34. > :43:39.all about getting fractions right. He will be trying to ride a race

:43:39. > :43:44.from the front. What about Cityscape? He was playing up a bit.

:43:44. > :43:48.He looks very fit. He will do himself justice. His trainer has

:43:48. > :43:54.done plenty of work with him at home, got him right. He's going to

:43:54. > :43:59.pull off a very good performance. You cannot realistically see this

:43:59. > :44:04.horse beating the top two because on all known form, he has a lot -

:44:04. > :44:10.well a bit to find. The same is true of Rio de La Plata. He is a

:44:10. > :44:14.good horse? This is a fantastic racehorse. Please press the button

:44:14. > :44:20.to record because this race you want to keep. This is something

:44:20. > :44:25.that possibly you won't see for years to come. They are loading up

:44:25. > :44:33.for our opening race of Royal Ascot 2011. We have Canford Cliffs as

:44:33. > :44:36.favourite at 5-4 ahead of Goldikova at 11-8. Will it be Canford Cliffs

:44:36. > :44:40.or will it be Goldikova? Here is Jim.

:44:40. > :44:44.Well, they are loading up. Only threed to be loaded here for this

:44:44. > :44:50.Queen Anne Stakes. There is Canford Cliffs -- three to be loaded here

:44:50. > :44:55.for this Queen Anne Stakes. There is Canford Cliffs. Olivier Peslier

:44:55. > :44:58.has put up one pound over on Goldikova. There he is. He will be

:44:58. > :45:05.slightly embarrassed by that particularly if it is a very, very

:45:05. > :45:08.narrow margin at the end. Goldikova 5-4 favourite now. One of the

:45:08. > :45:14.greatest mares of all time is starting favourite. That is it.

:45:14. > :45:19.They are ready. And they are racing! Cape Blanco went into the

:45:19. > :45:28.lead and is ridden hard, Cape Blanco by a length-and-a-half,

:45:28. > :45:31.Flash Dance is lying second, two lengths away Ransom Note, two

:45:31. > :45:34.lengths to Rio de La Plata sitting on the inside of Canford Cliffs,

:45:34. > :45:39.further back is Cityscape. So it's Cape Blanco on the near side with

:45:39. > :45:42.the white face, another white face on the far side, that is Mickael

:45:42. > :45:47.Barzalona on Flash Dance, they are going stride for stride now and

:45:47. > :45:50.setting a good gallop. Sitting in the slipstream is Goldikova, a half

:45:50. > :45:54.length away Ransom Note, a length further back is Canford Cliffs,

:45:54. > :45:58.travelling on the outside of Rio de La Plata and Cityscape whips them

:45:58. > :46:02.in as they race up to half-way. So it is Flash Dance who now takes it

:46:02. > :46:07.up from the Irish Derby winner Cape Blanco in second, in third is

:46:07. > :46:11.Goldikova, who is travelling sweetly, a length away in the

:46:11. > :46:15.centre is Ransom Note, Canford Cliffs is sitting quietly, Rio de

:46:16. > :46:21.La Plata starting to move up, and out the back is Cityscape. As they

:46:21. > :46:24.race up now with over two furlongs to travel, Goldikova eases

:46:24. > :46:28.alongside Rio de La Plata and they take it up now, but here is Canford

:46:28. > :46:33.Cliffs on the far side. They have kicked away from Cape Blanco,

:46:33. > :46:37.further back Cityscape running on, Goldikova shaken up now, on the far

:46:37. > :46:43.side Canford Cliffs is staking his claim, a furlong left to go and

:46:43. > :46:47.Cityscape is moving in as well. Canford Cliffs, he gets his neck in

:46:47. > :46:52.front now, fighting back is Goldikova, but Canford Cliffs,

:46:52. > :46:58.Canford Cliffs goes on to win from Goldikova, in third is Cityscape,

:46:58. > :47:04.followed by Rio de La Plata, a gap to Ransom Note, Cape Blanco was

:47:04. > :47:11.second last and last is Flash Dance. What a champion he is here at Royal

:47:11. > :47:15.Ascot. Canford Cliffs! He won the commentary here -- he won the

:47:15. > :47:21.Coventry here, and now he has conquered one of the greatest mares

:47:21. > :47:24.of all time in Goldikova. Ridden beautifully by Richard Hughes. 1

:47:24. > :47:31.Canford Cliffs has got the money. Richard Hannon, the proud trainer

:47:31. > :47:34.on the right, being congratulated: Let's see them cross the line. He

:47:34. > :47:41.was too good, Canford Cliffs. Canford Cliffs has got up to win it

:47:41. > :47:45.by three parts of a length from Goldikova, with Olivier Peslier

:47:45. > :47:49.putting up one over, two-and-a-half lengths behind them in third was

:47:49. > :47:54.Cityscape, who has ran an excellent race. A similar distance back to

:47:54. > :48:02.Rio de La Plata, who was there with about two furlongs to travel. And

:48:02. > :48:06.then a gap to Ransom Note who was just outclassed but ran very

:48:06. > :48:10.creditibly. Cape Blanco was up there doing donkey work and back

:48:10. > :48:17.behind them was Flash Dance. But there is Richard Hughes, absolutely

:48:17. > :48:23.delighted to start the meeting with this 11-8 winner, Canford Cliffs.

:48:23. > :48:32.He has done it in brilliant style. Let's check the one, two, three.

:48:32. > :48:37.First is 1, Canford Cliffs, Richard Hughes. Second 7, Goldikova, third

:48:37. > :48:43.3 Cityscape Ryan Moore and fourth is Rio de La Plata, Frankie Dettori.

:48:43. > :48:48.One length, one and three quar lengths and the time 1.38 -- three-

:48:48. > :48:54.quarter lengths and the time 1.38.38.

:48:54. > :48:58.CLARE BALDING: What a thrilling start to the meeting. Canford

:48:58. > :49:01.Cliffs providing a bit more in the closing stages to get the better of

:49:01. > :49:05.the best filly Europe and probably the world has ever seen. Full

:49:05. > :49:11.credit to this horse and to Richard Hughes on board because Willie,

:49:11. > :49:16.what do you think he was thinking? It looked like Cityscape might do

:49:16. > :49:19.both of them? Cityscape came on the outside with a good run, as did

:49:19. > :49:24.Frankie Dettori on Rio de La Plata, but they couldn't quite get home.

:49:24. > :49:29.The filly took over and she looked as though she was going to pull it

:49:29. > :49:36.out again, but Canford Cliffs, he's got a big, big engine. And this

:49:36. > :49:45.horse we have to say is a true, true champion because he has beaten

:49:45. > :49:50.the Queen of horse racing here today. Four racehorses there going

:49:50. > :49:57.away and the filly fought very hard and Goldikova, there was a battle

:49:58. > :50:01.there, who was going to win? But the mare found that little bit more.

:50:01. > :50:07.The pound overweight possibly didn't help. I think he's got beat

:50:07. > :50:11.by more than a pound today. This is a very, very good horse and all

:50:11. > :50:15.those people... Richard Hannon, his 30th Royal Ascot winner, watching

:50:15. > :50:19.there with Sir Robert Ogden and celebrating in victory. They came

:50:19. > :50:22.here with such high hopes. They knew they were taking on a

:50:22. > :50:26.superstar. Goldikova has been clapped back into second place here

:50:26. > :50:29.because the crowd at Royal Ascot do appreciate the effort that she has

:50:30. > :50:35.put in. You cannot have a great race and a race to get excited

:50:35. > :50:45.about unless you have two great rivals. This has been a Federer and

:50:45. > :51:01.

:51:01. > :51:05.Nadal tussle and Canford Cliffs, Royal Highnesses, we have been

:51:05. > :51:09.treated to a magnificent renewal of the Queen Anne Stakes and coming

:51:09. > :51:16.out on top in the tussle with the great filly Goldikova, we welcome

:51:16. > :51:26.into the winner's enclosure, ridden by Richard Hughes, trained by

:51:26. > :51:27.

:51:27. > :51:35.Richard Hannon, the great Canford Cliffs. APPLAUSE Into this famous

:51:36. > :51:42.winner's enclosure, Richard Hughes dismounts from Canford Cliffs who,

:51:42. > :51:52.these days, is owned in quite different interests to last year.

:51:52. > :51:53.

:51:53. > :52:00.Wears the same colours as last year. Included in the ownership is David

:52:00. > :52:05.Smith, part of the Coolmore partnership of course. It was

:52:05. > :52:12.significant that Cape Blanco was ridden for speed, that he was

:52:12. > :52:15.heading the pacemaker, Flash Dance, the pacemaker for Goldikova. Cape

:52:15. > :52:23.Blanco, an Irish Derby winner, has been up there forcing the pace in

:52:23. > :52:29.this Queen Anne Stakes over a mile. Clearly, that has assisted in

:52:29. > :52:35.recording a very fast time, in fact the time was only 1.22 seconds

:52:35. > :52:39.outside the course record. So there are the scenes in the winner's

:52:39. > :52:49.enclosure. Let's check the full result of race one, the Queen Anne

:52:49. > :52:55.Stakes: A fabulous contest and the winner is 1 Canford Cliffs at 11-8.

:52:55. > :53:03.What a race, Gary! Am I early to put my ride of the week in? I

:53:03. > :53:09.thought Richard Hughes was fantastic. It was like a top class

:53:09. > :53:14.poker game. He never went off favourite, John. The money for the

:53:14. > :53:24.French horse... 5-8 for Canford Cliffs. 12 Months ago Richard

:53:24. > :53:24.

:53:24. > :53:30.Hannon was in the runners up spot. Your first reaction? She is a

:53:30. > :53:36.brilliant filly. He is a very good horse. We had to take her on.

:53:36. > :53:40.that the perfect race for you? got two good pacemakers in there

:53:40. > :53:44.and he followed the filly through all the time. He is a very good

:53:44. > :53:50.horse. He can go - he has a cruising speed and he can also

:53:50. > :53:56.quicken. That's the great thing. you mind telling us how special he

:53:56. > :54:01.is again? It is worth repeating. is a very special horse to us,

:54:01. > :54:05.obviously. You don't - you actually - these sort of horses don't come

:54:05. > :54:09.along every day. Your jockey is standing by. Richard, there was a

:54:09. > :54:14.fleeting moment of concern for his supporters when Cityscape came up

:54:14. > :54:20.on the outside and you hadn't put Goldikova to bed. Would that be

:54:20. > :54:28.fair? Yeah, Olivier rode a terrific race. He wouldn't kick. I couldn't

:54:28. > :54:31.kick till he kicked. We did quicken a lot in the last two. Were you

:54:31. > :54:36.always confident that when it came down to a turn of foot, you would

:54:36. > :54:44.be on the faster horse? He is an amazing horse. Take us through your

:54:44. > :54:50.thoughts in the race. They went a good gallop with Cape Blanco and

:54:50. > :54:55.Goldikova, content to sit at the back? I wanted him to jump out.

:54:55. > :54:59.Richard told me, "Don't miss the kick." I landed behind Goldikova

:54:59. > :55:06.and I'm riding with Ryan Moore and Dettori. They could have made it

:55:06. > :55:15.hard for me and they didn't. I got up in their slipstream. Can you

:55:15. > :55:21.explain his performance, the enormity of it? He is the best

:55:21. > :55:26.horse I have ever ridden. I have told everyone that. I am sure no

:55:26. > :55:31.matter what horse you put in front of me, he will be the best. We have

:55:31. > :55:39.had a great first race to the meeting. Let's look at how they

:55:39. > :55:46.took their positions early on. Canford Cliffs is in stall six.

:55:46. > :55:51.Goldikova is on the far left. Interesting, the early part of this

:55:51. > :55:55.race, Mick, we knew Goldikova has got a pacemaker. We also have Jamie

:55:55. > :56:01.Spencer going on. The other horses have bided their time. They have

:56:01. > :56:05.been run at the back of the field saving energy? They have. Delighted

:56:05. > :56:10.with the way Goldikova has travelled through the race. She is

:56:10. > :56:13.in the perfect spot. You wonder at this stage how fast they are going.

:56:13. > :56:17.Didn't look like they were going that quick. They finished quite

:56:17. > :56:25.slow. I have spoken to a couple of the jockeys, they have said the

:56:25. > :56:28.ground is good. The white sleeves and white cap is Goldikova. The

:56:28. > :56:35.other ones involved in the finish are at the back of the field. She's

:56:35. > :56:42.using more energy in the early part of the race? She is. Just as the

:56:42. > :56:50.race hots up, Cityscape is coming into the picture. He ran a good

:56:50. > :56:59.race. Also good to see Rio de La Plata. He did travel very strongly.

:56:59. > :57:02.I wonder if dropping him back in trip might be a better option?

:57:02. > :57:08.doubt about that. I think there is better to come from Canford Cliffs.

:57:08. > :57:18.Canford Cliffs wins for the third consecutive year on this day. The

:57:18. > :57:21.winning time faster than average - 1:38.38 seconds.

:57:21. > :57:28.CLARE BALDING: Freddie Head, who has spent so much time looking

:57:28. > :57:31.after this mare, plotting the course of her races, watching her

:57:31. > :57:36.being beaten there with a look of resignation more than anything. He

:57:36. > :57:41.still knows - let's hear from him. Your reaction to that performance

:57:41. > :57:46.from your filly? I am very happy with her. She rode a great race.

:57:46. > :57:50.The winner was the better horse today. He had a lovely ride.

:57:50. > :57:56.Followed us. I think the mile here, it is a bit long, it is a bit far

:57:56. > :58:02.for her. It is a tough mile. I think the last 100 yards, she has a

:58:02. > :58:07.job getting the distance here. got a lovely reception. They love

:58:07. > :58:12.her, the crowd? I was very thrilled by that. The people know horses

:58:12. > :58:17.here. They are very fond of horses and champions. Your confidence in

:58:18. > :58:26.her going for a fourth Breeder's Cup mile remains undaunted? I do. I

:58:26. > :58:31.think she ran a top race. As good as ever she is. So why not? We will

:58:31. > :58:38.go to Deauville in August. Then we will try and win a fourth Breeder's

:58:38. > :58:42.Cup. Thank you. CLARE BALDING: Richard Hughes, he

:58:42. > :58:47.said you need a winner early on in the week to get your confidence

:58:47. > :58:54.going. My word, he did that! A beautiful piece of riding. Great

:58:54. > :59:00.timing. Just hugely brave to take the pull that he did coming out of

:59:00. > :59:06.the stalls but also to time it so well, Willie, to do the things you

:59:06. > :59:11.said he should do? The race was set up. It panned out as we expected.

:59:11. > :59:18.The only thing was we didn't know whether Canford Cliffs was better

:59:18. > :59:28.than the Queen of horse racing. Today, he was. He is a very, very

:59:28. > :59:33.

:59:34. > :59:39.good horse. And well done to all those at the stables.

:59:39. > :59:47.presentation taking place for the Queen Anne Stakes, being made by

:59:47. > :59:52.Sir Michael Parkinson and his wife, Mary, is there as well. They can

:59:52. > :59:56.reflect on a really top class day. That is one to put in the memory

:59:56. > :00:02.bank. We must not forget the guy, the family who bought the horse as

:00:03. > :00:06.well. The Doyle family, they are very good at buying most of Richard

:00:06. > :00:15.Hannon's two-year-olds that keep on winning. Well done to them. There

:00:15. > :00:22.will be greater celebrations this afternoon if Sir Henry Cecil is

:00:22. > :00:27.successful with Frankel. He is Sir Henry Cecil now, as of the weekend.

:00:27. > :00:30.I think that is lovely. That is a really, that is so deserved and

:00:30. > :00:33.there couldn't be a more popular knighted person - the first person

:00:33. > :00:36.to be knighted for services to racing in ages. Sir Michael

:00:36. > :00:41.Stoute's knighthood was for services to tourism in Barbados.

:00:41. > :00:51.Yes. We can reflect and celebrate on the training career of a truly

:00:51. > :00:51.

:00:51. > :01:48.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:01:48. > :01:58.down. Striding into the final furlong.

:01:58. > :02:02.

:02:02. > :02:12.Henry Cecil. Holding on. It wins for Henry Cecil. Three cheers for

:02:12. > :02:18.

:02:18. > :02:21.Henry Cesc im -- Cecil. Hip-hip. Hip-hip, hip-hip. He's wonderfully

:02:21. > :02:26.eccentric, has an interesting manner about him, almost like a

:02:26. > :02:29.dandy from a by-gone age? You think so? Yes, Foppish in the way he

:02:29. > :02:33.holds himself and dresses and the brightly coloured socks. He's one

:02:34. > :02:40.of those figures that you need in sport, instantly recognisable.

:02:40. > :02:48.certainly that. Mysterious as well. Very, yes. Well, he's basically a

:02:48. > :02:51.genius at training racehorses, you know. Doesn't matter when or how,

:02:51. > :02:56.horses that go to him, he turns them into superstars and it's

:02:56. > :03:00.happened year in year out. He went through a very dodgy part, not so

:03:00. > :03:05.long ago, and I for one thought possibly that might be the end of

:03:05. > :03:09.Henry Cecil. But no! Bang! He's back! He's better than ever.

:03:09. > :03:16.could be training the best horses he's ever had in Frankel. We have a

:03:16. > :03:20.feature in frankle coming up before his big race at 3.45, the St

:03:20. > :03:26.James's Palace horse Stakes. A feature later in the week on Henry

:03:26. > :03:29.Cecil so you can fully appreciate THE genius of the man. One thing he

:03:30. > :03:34.loves is fashion. He has an extensive wardrobe. You've

:03:34. > :03:38.literally been in it?! Yes, small enough to get in it, yes. Let's

:03:38. > :03:42.give people the first chance to enjoy the fashion of the day here

:03:42. > :03:47.at Royal Ascot. Here is Suzie. We are talking high fashion now

:03:47. > :03:51.here with one of Britain's favourite designers, Amanda Wakeley,

:03:51. > :03:57.thanks for joining us. Ascot is home from home for you, isn't it,

:03:57. > :04:02.really? It is a bit, we come for a couple of years which is great fun.

:04:02. > :04:06.And Olivia, you've worn Amanda's clothes before. How's that?

:04:06. > :04:09.Wonderful. You make a classic silhouette that's just perfect for

:04:09. > :04:18.any occasion, especially Ascot. Thank you! You are showing this

:04:18. > :04:23.year's spring summer at the best. Show us what we are looking at?

:04:23. > :04:28.Tribal influences, the hole collection, very much. I'd seen

:04:28. > :04:33.these images of these beautiful tribes people, so all inspired by

:04:33. > :04:37.the baeding that they wear or make -- beading. The jewellery they put

:04:37. > :04:42.together also. The draping, the way things are really effortlessly

:04:42. > :04:45.draped around them. I remember last year when you came and showed on

:04:45. > :04:50.our catwalk at Ascot, there was an African influence there. What's so

:04:50. > :04:59.special to you about that part of the world? Last year was more

:04:59. > :05:03.Indian. OK, sorry! I just love the effortless ease that tribes people

:05:03. > :05:07.and people like that dress themselves. It's literally all

:05:07. > :05:13.about wrapping a beautiful piece of fabric around yourself, but doing

:05:13. > :05:16.it in such a beautiful, flattering way. How difficult is it? We are

:05:16. > :05:21.looking at your fabulous high fashions here. Not quite right to

:05:21. > :05:24.wear on a day to Ascot, but if someone was coming here for the

:05:24. > :05:27.first time, what advice would you give them? Well, I think very much

:05:27. > :05:32.about the whole look, you know, it's not just about the dress or

:05:32. > :05:37.the suit because then you've got to combine that with the perfect hat,

:05:37. > :05:42.with the shoes and bag. I think it's trying to put the whole thing

:05:42. > :05:47.together as a complete picture. Olivia, as a model, what's your

:05:47. > :05:51.take on Ascot fashion? If you adhere to the recalls, you won't

:05:52. > :05:54.look ridiculous but might look dull. Is there room for exploration?

:05:54. > :05:59.Never dull. If you look around today, there are very fuel dull

:05:59. > :06:04.pieces. It's a chance for all the ladies to go a bit nuts and to wear

:06:04. > :06:07.their finest clothes and to really bring in the colour and bring on

:06:07. > :06:13.the fabulousness of fashion! Yeah, exactly. I wonder if we could look

:06:13. > :06:19.at some of the images we have seen today arriving here at Royal Ascot.

:06:19. > :06:23.Maybe you could pass a few comments, Amanda? Beautiful hat. Sculptural.

:06:23. > :06:28.I love some of the straws that we are seeing this year. Skew zi,

:06:28. > :06:33.yours is the same. You see the light comes through the straw and

:06:33. > :06:43.casts a shadow on your face, very alluring -- Suzie.

:06:43. > :06:46.

:06:46. > :06:49.That looks like a Phillip Tracey? Yes, with a Dolce and Gabbanna.

:06:49. > :06:54.Fascinators are always popular and work well on the younger. Yes.

:06:54. > :06:57.of feathers we are seeing, and you are wearing them? Yes. I am.

:06:57. > :07:02.Olivia is. My dog thought it was the shooting season this morning

:07:02. > :07:07.when the hat came out. Got all terribly excited. This is an

:07:07. > :07:10.interesting and unusual creation this lady's wearing. Yes, a

:07:10. > :07:13.beautiful corseted top. She was very chic, I love her style.

:07:13. > :07:18.think the other thing to remember about Ascot is, you are walking on

:07:19. > :07:23.grass a lot, so you can either do what we do, tip-toe because your

:07:23. > :07:27.heels sink in, or you can be a bit more sensible. It's also a place

:07:27. > :07:31.where you can show off a fab loss hat and be a little adventurous

:07:31. > :07:36.with what you wear, as long as you are keeping to some of the rules,

:07:36. > :07:40.with your knees covered and so on for the Royal enclosure. Absolutely.

:07:40. > :07:44.It's all about a complete picture. I think the rules have relaxed a

:07:44. > :07:49.little in the Royal enclosure and if you are looking groomed and

:07:49. > :07:54.beautiful, I don't think there's issues about complete length of

:07:54. > :08:01.dresses and sleeves and all of that. So really be confident and enjoy

:08:01. > :08:04.yourself and enjoy Royal Ascot 2011 Absolutely. Wonderful to talk to

:08:04. > :08:07.you both. Thank you very much. Richard Hughes, for all his

:08:07. > :08:12.brilliance, has never been leading jockey here at Royal Ascot, but

:08:12. > :08:16.there he puts on the gold arm band to say for one race at least, I am

:08:16. > :08:20.the leading jockey at Ascot and he could be, at the end of the week,

:08:20. > :08:24.exciting rides to come, a beautiful jockey to watch when riding well.

:08:24. > :08:30.He's proud of that arm band isn't he? He is. Ryan Moore is favourite

:08:30. > :08:35.to be leading jockey and no reason why not. Going down early on

:08:35. > :08:41.Kingsgate Native. He has an interesting history, this horse.

:08:41. > :08:45.Yes, well, he couldn't do the business so they gelded him. He's

:08:45. > :08:52.still a very powerful horse. He gets very hot before he runs and he

:08:52. > :08:56.can get his typical sprinter, gets himself sort of geeed up and like a

:08:56. > :08:59.spring, you know, himself uptight. That's why they've taken him down

:08:59. > :09:04.early. I think today they're expecting a big run from this horse.

:09:04. > :09:08.He'll run a big race today. likes it here, doesn't he? Yes,

:09:08. > :09:16.he'll run a big race, he wasn't quite fit when he was second at

:09:16. > :09:21.Haydock three or four weeks ago. Here is another. The sprinters are

:09:21. > :09:28.always a jockey's nightmare. could argue he's showing the best

:09:28. > :09:35.sprinting form in this country. My word! Oh, my word! Get him back,

:09:35. > :09:41.get him bag back. He did well there, didn't he?! Yes. Wayne Lordan on

:09:41. > :09:47.board. Better than trying to get the jockey on board in the parade

:09:47. > :09:57.ring because he'll get all upset and be throwing himself around.

:09:57. > :09:58.

:09:58. > :10:02.mistake, that's Morris on board, not Wayne Lordan.

:10:02. > :10:07.We are taking a look at the sprinters closely. One that's

:10:07. > :10:11.taking the eye for me, is number seven, Monsieur Chevalier. High

:10:11. > :10:16.class, had a pelvic injury out of the course for a year and returned

:10:16. > :10:26.with a decent performance the other day. Looks really well? He could be

:10:26. > :10:27.

:10:27. > :10:30.performance of the year here today. Let's talk about the Budapest

:10:30. > :10:32.Bullet, Overdose. He's getting warm. It's not normally a sign that you

:10:32. > :10:37.would associate with positive things, although in his defence,

:10:37. > :10:42.he's done this before? The thing is, when you know horses, like we saw

:10:42. > :10:47.in the Derby, the horse always sweats up. If he wasn't sweaty, you

:10:47. > :10:53.would be a little concerned. I wouldn't be too concerned now.

:10:53. > :10:58.American challengers, number two, town town town named after a place

:10:58. > :11:04.in Barbados -- Bridgetown. You like the look of him? I do, a top team

:11:04. > :11:07.as well. Tom Pletcher's won all the races there are to be won in the

:11:07. > :11:11.States. You have to respect him bringing a horse over here like

:11:11. > :11:16.this. This horse is shining and gleaming in contrast to the leading

:11:16. > :11:23.Australian hope, Number 11, witness witness witness. Most horses have

:11:23. > :11:26.their summer coats -- Star Witness. He has a hairy coat? Almost like

:11:26. > :11:32.one of us going on our holidays when it's winter, probably getting

:11:32. > :11:37.a shock here, but I'm sure he's enjoying himself. Looks well. These

:11:38. > :11:43.Australian sprinters, they've done really well over here in the past.

:11:43. > :11:48.He's on his toes. We haven't seen him in the UK before. Does he look

:11:48. > :11:53.like he's getting over the top? Are you happy with his deme nor at the

:11:53. > :11:58.moment? Some of the horses are over the top, some just want to get on

:11:58. > :12:05.with it -- demeanour. I like the way this horse looks, even though

:12:05. > :12:12.he has the summer coat, he looks well in himself. Mick and rish

:12:12. > :12:19.which were talking there -- Rishi were talking there about the

:12:19. > :12:24.American horses. What do you make of it here? Very good facilities.

:12:24. > :12:28.What about Bridgetown? Quick away from the stalls, be upwardly placed

:12:28. > :12:32.and five furlongs suits him well. We have seen the American sprinters

:12:32. > :12:37.are much faster out of the gate and they tend to be able to sustain

:12:37. > :12:41.their speed better? In the States, the first kick away isn't great. I

:12:41. > :12:45.would expect him to be fast. terms of what you have achieved

:12:45. > :12:49.through a career, how much would it mean to have a winner at Royal

:12:49. > :12:54.Ascot? This would be extra special. Something we haven't tried before

:12:54. > :12:59.and to do it would be exceptional. We wish you well, thank you.

:12:59. > :13:03.Runners on their way to post for the King's stand Stakes and aiblt

:13:03. > :13:09.different countries are represented here. Let's have a look at the

:13:09. > :13:19.runners and riders -- King's Stand Stakes and eight different

:13:19. > :13:19.

:13:19. > :14:18.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:14:18. > :14:23.one of the most prestigious races of the calendar for sprinters. It's

:14:23. > :14:28.a very fast five furlong track run with an uphill finish. The best

:14:28. > :14:34.horses from all over the world come and tackle this race. In the recent

:14:34. > :14:41.years, horses from America and Australia have been winning these

:14:41. > :14:51.kind of races. Can't remember a more cos know poll tan King's Stand

:14:51. > :15:12.

:15:12. > :15:15.he looks so well. But Kingsgate Native will definitely go on

:15:15. > :15:20.favourite, John. Plenty of money for it here. They're backing five

:15:20. > :15:24.and six horses each way. Great race. If this wins, the price will

:15:24. > :15:28.contract for the top jockey. Exactly.

:15:28. > :15:32.Let's have a close look here. A lot of the sprinters we were talking

:15:32. > :15:39.about earlier, their highly strung nature. It's a very difficult thing

:15:39. > :15:42.to just keep them absolutely right to produce their best. This is

:15:42. > :15:52.Sweet Sanette, Jamie Spencer on board, the Hong Kong-trained mare.

:15:52. > :15:53.

:15:53. > :15:57.She's six years old now, but again just showing that he's highly

:15:57. > :16:02.strung. He's got a five furlong walk ahead of him now, Jamie

:16:02. > :16:07.Spencer, because he's decided to get off her. I would imagine she's

:16:08. > :16:12.one of those animals that could bolt to the start. Kingsgate Native

:16:12. > :16:15.was taken down to the start early and we can see him down there. It's

:16:15. > :16:21.a warm day today and a lot of the horses sweating up. Ryan Moore

:16:21. > :16:26.taking a towel and saying, we'll dry this off. That's normal for him.

:16:26. > :16:30.And Henry Cecil already discussing with Tom Queally what they'll try

:16:30. > :16:34.and do with Frankel. Henry likes to be fully involved in the tactical

:16:34. > :16:39.decisions. Interesting when he talked about the Guineas, he said,

:16:39. > :16:42.I did this and that, and he'll tell Tom exactly how he wants Frankel to

:16:42. > :16:47.be ridden. I suspect he'll be saying, try and miss the break when

:16:47. > :16:51.the stalls open, get him in behind and settle him, try and, you know,

:16:51. > :16:56.not make the running, don't go mad like last time. Tom will be

:16:56. > :17:00.thinking, I wish I had a ride in this race. Because he hasn't in the

:17:00. > :17:05.first two, so all he has to think about is Frankel.

:17:05. > :17:11.Kingsgate Native trained by Sir Michael Stoute. Number Ten. This is

:17:11. > :17:16.Sole Power who has outstanding form. They were worried about the ground

:17:16. > :17:20.being too soft. Yes. The jockeys, after the first race, described it

:17:20. > :17:26.as good. A couple saying it rides like a carpet. Rhine Moore thought

:17:26. > :17:31.it was good, maybe slightly quicker. The first race was run in 1.2 off

:17:31. > :17:41.the course record, so that tells you the ground is pretty quick.

:17:41. > :17:42.

:17:42. > :17:49.Let's have a look at War Artist. He's swapped trainers a few times,

:17:49. > :17:53.but in a race where they could go at, not a million miles an hour,

:17:53. > :17:57.but they're goinging to go so fast. One that dropped out at the back

:17:57. > :18:01.could surprise you later on. have to be aware that some of the

:18:01. > :18:08.seasoned sprinters jump from the stalls so much quicker than the

:18:08. > :18:12.English and Irish trainers. This horse was on his toes a little.

:18:12. > :18:16.He's not using up too much energy, so I wouldn't be concerned. He has

:18:16. > :18:22.in the past, the trainer said about him, he's used up too much energy

:18:22. > :18:32.for his own good. There is War Artist, now with Marcus Klug in

:18:32. > :18:32.

:18:32. > :18:36.Germany, being trained in the UK. Peslier on board. He's quiet on a

:18:36. > :18:40.sprinter. These two were made for each other. You couldn't get

:18:40. > :18:46.anybody cooler than Peslier and this horse, looks like he could be

:18:46. > :18:50.out for an afternoon stroll. Very good. Sweet Sanette. Saw her

:18:50. > :18:55.earlier on. Jamie Spencer walking behind her. She's come from Hong

:18:55. > :18:58.Kong and she's obviously, not too bad now, but she was in a little

:18:58. > :19:03.bit of a state and I suppose it's the journey, a different country,

:19:03. > :19:06.the number of people here as well, got her a little upset. I'm sure a

:19:06. > :19:11.lot of people will be watching this in Hong Kong pleased to see the

:19:11. > :19:15.horse is as relaxed as this now. She's really settled down, dropped

:19:15. > :19:20.her gate and I'm sure that any one of these supporters will be

:19:20. > :19:24.delighted. Looks in good form as well. Here is Monsieur Chevalier.

:19:25. > :19:30.Richard Hughes riding her. Missed a season. Didn't get the

:19:30. > :19:33.best of runs on his debut, it was rather eye-catching in fourth place

:19:34. > :19:37.though. Indeed it was and looks like it will improve again. Richard

:19:37. > :19:47.Hannon, Richard Hughes, a great team already on the board here

:19:47. > :19:56.

:19:56. > :20:06.today. Your favourite 6-1. We saw Hugo

:20:06. > :20:07.

:20:07. > :20:12.Chavez there. 7 one he was. Rhine Moore, still 8-13.

:20:12. > :20:18.They're all at the post with the exception of Ryan Moore. His horse

:20:18. > :20:21.can be a handful. Knocked Sir Michael Stoute down a few years ago.

:20:22. > :20:25.Normally jockeys go early, they leave. But he went earlier than

:20:25. > :20:29.early and they wanted to make sure they got the horse down here nice

:20:29. > :20:32.and relaxed. The horse has some good form to his name and he's not

:20:32. > :20:37.without a chance here. He's a rarity in English sprinters because

:20:37. > :20:42.he's travelled the world. Although he hasn't landed a nice prize, he's

:20:42. > :20:46.ran with credibility. Jamie Spencer there, dispensed with his running

:20:46. > :20:54.tactics and decided to get a lift down. I would think they're keen to

:20:54. > :20:58.get the races off on time. The sprinters are finely tuned athletes.

:20:58. > :21:03.Jamie's being driven on the way down to the five furlong start but

:21:03. > :21:13.in all honesty, only about 200 yards to jog, didn't he? Wouldn't

:21:13. > :21:26.

:21:26. > :21:30.have killed him, surely not?! start for a Group 1 race. Jamie

:21:30. > :21:40.Spencer will be reunited with Sweet Sanette. This is the favourite,

:21:40. > :21:48.

:21:48. > :21:52.Star Witness, trained in Australia straight course at Flemington. We

:21:52. > :21:57.thought it might be the right horse for Ascot. He won a Group 1 and 2,

:21:57. > :22:04.and a Group 1 down the straight on Derby day. COMMENTATOR: Star

:22:04. > :22:08.Witness comes away. Too good for them. The colts that have won it,

:22:08. > :22:12.they won two and three like he did. If he happened to win a Group 1 in

:22:12. > :22:15.England, I think he'd be the first colt to do that. If you can come

:22:15. > :22:22.over here and know you have a good chance to have winning, it's hard

:22:22. > :22:27.to resist. It could be a career highlight, I would love to have an

:22:27. > :22:36.Ascot winner on my rez May. mare whose son are calling the best

:22:36. > :22:42.sprinter of all-time, she is. resume. She brutalises the other

:22:42. > :22:48.horses and doesn't seem to extend at doing it. Our racing is more

:22:48. > :22:54.toward deep racing. We have a pool of horse racers and they tend to be

:22:54. > :22:57.the best sprinters of the world. They're won, the races, by those

:22:57. > :23:01.who have superior speed. Historically, you can't come from a

:23:01. > :23:06.long way back in the King's Stand. He'll step away from the gate and I

:23:06. > :23:10.imagine he'll be one or two lengths in front. As long as he's tracking

:23:10. > :23:14.well into the race inside the furlong, he'll be very hard to hold

:23:14. > :23:18.out. Australian sprinters have won this race four times in the last

:23:18. > :23:23.eight years, Danny O'Brien there watching from the sidelines. He's

:23:23. > :23:27.done everything he can, now it's up to Star Witness. But the one mark

:23:27. > :23:36.against him, Willie, is that he's not the best sprinter in Australia?

:23:36. > :23:44.No, Black Caviar is, he's a mare that beat this one. We'll have to

:23:44. > :23:49.look forward to seeing Black Caviar here next year, if this one win,

:23:49. > :23:59.which I believe he's going to do next year. Kingsgate Native ahead

:23:59. > :24:00.

:24:00. > :24:04.of Star Witness. The beautiful grey is Arctic. Monsieur Chevalier. Ryan

:24:04. > :24:07.Moore will leave things late with Kingsgate Native as well, he likes

:24:07. > :24:13.a lot of cover in this race. Interesting to see whether they

:24:13. > :24:20.race up the middle. The favourite sweating around the ears there.

:24:20. > :24:30.It's a very hot day. It's a very hot and very, very international

:24:30. > :24:42.

:24:42. > :24:52.King's Stand staixs. Let's join Jim last to be loaded. Last one going

:24:52. > :24:57.

:24:57. > :25:00.forward is Bridgetown. Restless for some time. Ready. That's it!

:25:00. > :25:09.They're racing. In the centre, Sweet Sanette was

:25:09. > :25:14.one of the first away. Up there too, Rose Blossom. On the far side,

:25:14. > :25:22.overdose, well clear of the pack as they split into two groups. On the

:25:22. > :25:27.near side, Overdose leads them. Prohibit. Group Therapy. Iver

:25:27. > :25:36.Bridge Lad. Sweet Sanette. Tangerine Trees. They start to

:25:36. > :25:45.merge now. Rose Blossom. Sweet Sanette from Hong Kong for Rose

:25:45. > :25:50.Blossom. Swiss Diva. Tangerine Trees. Bridgetown. Star Witness.

:25:50. > :25:55.Inside the final furlong now and it's Sweet Sanette for Hong Kong,

:25:55. > :26:01.two in front. Prohibit. Star Witness down the outside. Prohibit

:26:01. > :26:11.grabs the lead. Prohibit's won the King's Stand. From star witness and

:26:11. > :26:13.

:26:13. > :26:20.Sweet Sanette, just behind. Sole Power. Tangerine Trees was one of

:26:20. > :26:30.the last in company with Swiss Diva. The winner is number nine, Prohibit,

:26:30. > :26:30.

:26:30. > :26:40.ridden by Jim Crowley. There's the winning trainer, Mr Cowell. What a

:26:40. > :26:41.

:26:41. > :26:49.thrill for him. Let's see them cross the line. Prohibit there, the

:26:49. > :26:59.asy came late, Star Witness couldn't take himself back up to

:26:59. > :27:01.

:27:01. > :27:06.him. -- the Aussie. Overdose was fourth. A gap to War Artist and

:27:06. > :27:09.Kingsgate Native, almost a dead heat there, we'll leave that to the

:27:09. > :27:19.judge and Iver Bridge Lad just behind them. Just behind them, as

:27:19. > :27:22.they cross the line, is Sole Power. Then, Astrophysical Jet, Mar

:27:22. > :27:31.Adentro. Bridgetown next. They were followed by Holiday For Kitten.

:27:31. > :27:35.Then Group Therapy. Arctic. Stone Of Folca. Rose Blossom. Swiss Diva.

:27:35. > :27:42.Last, Tangerine Trees. So, the winner, let's check the one, two,

:27:43. > :27:49.three, four. First is number nine, Prohibit, second, Star Witness,

:27:49. > :27:52.third is Sweet Sanette, fourth number eight, Overdose. The 7-1 the

:27:52. > :27:57.winner. I have the winner trainer with me enjoying one of the

:27:57. > :27:59.greatest days of his life. Repeat to me what you just said? I'm still

:28:00. > :28:05.going to say it again, I cannot believe this has happened to me.

:28:05. > :28:08.Has it happened, I mean really? you want me to pinch you? No! I

:28:08. > :28:12.just can't believe it, I'm overwhelmed. I've got glasses on,

:28:12. > :28:17.so you won't notice I'm crying. You've had a lot of faith in this

:28:17. > :28:23.horse for a very long time. Took him out to Dubai, you trained him

:28:23. > :28:28.to a high level. Up always believed he was capable. You must feel so

:28:28. > :28:32.proud? I am. I almost get a bit of flak from everybody saying I run

:28:32. > :28:36.him too much but he thrives on his racing, he runs out to the paddock

:28:36. > :28:39.in the morning, he'll be in there for two-and-a-half weeks and with

:28:39. > :28:43.four days, he'll put all the weight back on that he lost in the race

:28:43. > :28:47.before so it takes nothing out of him. He's a game, game horse and

:28:47. > :28:52.I'm chuffed to bits for everybody. You have lots of decent horses.

:28:52. > :28:57.You've got, by general standards, a decent sized stable. You are not up

:28:57. > :29:01.there with Henry Cescle and Michael Stoute, but to win this race, a

:29:01. > :29:07.group 1, at Ascot, what does it mean? It's the best day of my

:29:07. > :29:10.racing life without the shadow of a doubt. Awesome. I'm just so pleased

:29:10. > :29:15.for everybody, fantastic. I can't tell you how much emotion is

:29:15. > :29:21.running through me right now, I'm just chuffed. It's the first time

:29:22. > :29:27.that Prohibit has won at group level. It's the first Royal Ascot

:29:27. > :29:30.winner for the owner. It was a very, very fast pace, blisteringly fast

:29:30. > :29:36.as, out of the stalls had been Rose Blossom. She shuffles back through

:29:36. > :29:41.the field now, and it's Star Witness and Prohibit who close from

:29:41. > :29:46.mid back to catch Jamie Spencer on Sweet Sanette. Thrilling race to

:29:46. > :29:49.watch. Overdose, so glad he's ran well again, they thought so much of

:29:49. > :29:55.him, the Hungarian horse. Watch these two come through here.

:29:55. > :30:04.They've gone hard, but that's their style of racing and that's what

:30:04. > :30:11.they do. Robert Cowells bought this horse and he's done absolutely

:30:11. > :30:16.marvellous. Took him to Dubai in the winter, he won there and he ran

:30:16. > :30:22.third in the Temple Stakes up at Haydock earlier on and he's beaten

:30:23. > :30:27.those two horses who beat him, Sole Power and Kingsgate Native. He's

:30:27. > :30:33.beaten them today, he's improved for that run. He improves for

:30:33. > :30:43.racing, so he's obviously at his best today and possibly just needs

:30:43. > :30:48.

:30:48. > :30:52.the day over the flying five here at Royal Ascot was a multi-national

:30:52. > :30:57.affair, a high class field of global sprinters, but it's been won

:30:57. > :31:04.by Great Britain, it's been a first Royal Ascot winner for both Jim

:31:04. > :31:13.Crowley, the man on board, and for Bob Cowell, Robert Cowell. They

:31:13. > :31:19.celebrate the success of Prohibit in the King's Stand Stakes.

:31:19. > :31:25.Prohibit coming back into the winner's enclosure. Robert Cowell,

:31:25. > :31:31.a great training performance. Very skilful job. He ran well, ran with

:31:31. > :31:35.great promise in Dubai. Now he's come back home to the UK and he's

:31:35. > :31:45.won the King's Stand Stakes. The distances were a half length and

:31:45. > :31:48.

:31:48. > :31:52.the same. The time 59.5 was about 2.06 seconds slower than Miss

:31:52. > :31:59.Andretti recorded in 2007. There's the winner, he's done well and he

:31:59. > :32:09.knows it. Let's have a look at the SPs now on race two, the King's

:32:09. > :32:19.

:32:19. > :32:24.12-1 before the off. Was it because of you? I fancied this horse. The

:32:24. > :32:30.wife's just text me, I've seen a lovely pair of shoes - you can't

:32:30. > :32:39.win! What is he on about?! Let's look at what happened at the start

:32:39. > :32:45.of this King's Stand Stakes. They are all towards the right-hand side.

:32:45. > :32:52.Just from one from the right, the American horse, not that quick into

:32:52. > :32:55.his stride, was he? That didn't help Mike Smith's horse at all.

:32:55. > :32:59.Interesting to see that they did split into these two separate

:32:59. > :33:03.groups. You see so many of them coming from this side. A lot of

:33:03. > :33:11.trainers will be worried or delighted with that. Let's look at

:33:11. > :33:17.the closing stages. Prohibit is a lovely sprinter. If you backed him,

:33:17. > :33:21.you will have become involved with him. A lot of hard luck stories

:33:21. > :33:28.along the way for this big success. You can see the Australian horse

:33:29. > :33:33.alongside him there, every chance and Overdose, what a great race. We

:33:33. > :33:36.saw Jamie Spencer getting a lift down to the start, unfortunately

:33:36. > :33:43.the post came too late. A great moment. The United Kingdom has not

:33:43. > :33:52.had a winner of this King's Stand Stakes for quite some time.

:33:52. > :33:58.CLARE BALDING: There in your shot is Frankel, unbeaten in six starts,

:33:58. > :34:03.the extraordinary winner of the first race in the British Champion

:34:03. > :34:09.Sees and he will be in action next on BBC Two in the St James's Palace

:34:09. > :34:13.Stakes. We will not see him race like this, but we rare I will have

:34:13. > :34:17.seen a classic won in such style as this horse won at Newmarket. He's

:34:17. > :34:21.proved that he is exciting and exhilarating. Now he has to prove
