:00:55. > :00:58.Welcome back to coverage of Royal Ascot here on day one. The sun is

:00:58. > :01:02.beating down and we have already had two Royal Processions, the

:01:02. > :01:06.first led by the Queen, the second led by Frankel. In a moment I will

:01:06. > :01:14.be speaking to his trainer, but here the scenes of victory after

:01:14. > :01:19.the King Stands Stakes in which Little Bridge has been successful

:01:19. > :01:24.for Hong Kong. Little Bridge, a Group 3 and Group 2 winner, now

:01:24. > :01:27.stepping up to Group 1 level and that's the very highest you can get.

:01:27. > :01:34.Whether to be another level, I suspect we may have to invent one

:01:34. > :01:42.for a horse at Frankel and Henry Cecil, your immediate emotion, is

:01:42. > :01:45.it excitement or relief? Both, I think. Really thankful. I am so

:01:45. > :01:49.lucky to have him. Many people would love to have a horse like

:01:49. > :01:55.that, I am grateful to have got him. It's sensational. We will look at

:01:55. > :02:02.the race again in a moment. We will show that you. We will quickly hear

:02:02. > :02:10.from the first trainer from Hong Kong to win a Royal Ascot race.

:02:10. > :02:15.He is with me. At what point did you think you had the race wrapped

:02:15. > :02:22.up? I was confident from the time the gates opened, which was not

:02:22. > :02:26.something you can always say. It would take a good twoupb beat me.

:02:26. > :02:29.We were all expecting Aussie success here this week. Didn't

:02:29. > :02:33.expect it with Little Bridge and yourself. Danny and I both come

:02:33. > :02:38.here confident in the horse. We expected something anyway.

:02:38. > :02:42.Hopefully it's the start for a good week for Australians. Danny, you

:02:42. > :02:48.have been here before. I suppose this new role is much more

:02:48. > :02:55.enjoyable. Yeah, it is. But I am happy this time, Zac does a very

:02:55. > :02:59.good job and my team done a really fantastic job. Finally I make it,

:02:59. > :03:05.really happy. I don't know thousand say I am really happy. When did you

:03:05. > :03:15.first start planning to come over for this race? I plan to come half

:03:15. > :03:15.

:03:15. > :03:18.year ago because I love to go to England. I really like this country.

:03:19. > :03:23.I really like, very happy about this. Do you think you will come

:03:23. > :03:28.back next year with Little Bridge? All depends, I plan to run Little

:03:28. > :03:34.Bridge in Japan in September, so I have to see how he goes. Thank you

:03:34. > :03:38.very much. Many congratulations. Well, Henry Cecil said he hadn't

:03:38. > :03:41.had a chance to see Frankel yet so you are just coming in and you

:03:41. > :03:45.haven't seen it either. This is your chance. It was a phenomenonal

:03:45. > :03:49.performance. We were trying to say before the race what it is about

:03:49. > :03:55.him that makes him so superior to any horse we have ever seen, do you

:03:55. > :04:00.know yet? Well, I mean, he got that stride. When he accelerates, he

:04:00. > :04:04.doesn't accelerate for a furlong. If you sat with the other horses

:04:04. > :04:08.and they all sprinted, he wouldn't be so effective. You have to

:04:08. > :04:12.actually unleash him in good time and he gallops from the ground. He

:04:12. > :04:16.will quicken for three, four furlongs. Normally a horse will

:04:16. > :04:21.quicken up for one or two. suppose that's why, we can look at

:04:21. > :04:25.it now, the straight mile, he is so effective. His rhythm is never

:04:25. > :04:31.interrupted. There is no bend. He can just do it as and when when he

:04:31. > :04:36.wants to. He settled well. didn't early on in his life. He is

:04:37. > :04:40.definitely getting better and he will tell us what to do. I am not

:04:40. > :04:50.going to tell him. Watch him carefully and he will say right, I

:04:50. > :04:53.

:04:53. > :04:56.need another three weeks and I am ready to go. It's amazing here,

:04:56. > :05:01.because - they're going a really good pace, but Frankel makes it

:05:01. > :05:05.look like they're cantering. He has that long stride. I wanted to

:05:05. > :05:11.produce him between the two and a half and the two. No later than

:05:11. > :05:16.that. Because he takes some catching. They can have a go at him

:05:16. > :05:21.but he keeps going and other horses don't. He's just half-pacing where

:05:21. > :05:27.other horses are in Top Gear. is where the race starts to unfold

:05:27. > :05:31.and you see maybe quarter of an inch of rein Tom Queally looks out

:05:31. > :05:35.and he is cruising. All the other jockeys start to to send out the

:05:35. > :05:38.emergency calls and Tom is still sitting there. He is a great horse.

:05:38. > :05:44.I don't see how people can judge generations or different countries

:05:44. > :05:53.and different distances and put them a pound ahead of each other. I

:05:53. > :05:56.think it's double Dutch. He is a great horse. The time is very quick.

:05:56. > :06:01.Let everybody judge him. They've seen him and they can make the

:06:01. > :06:05.judgment. That's stunning. What he does when you are watching it, your

:06:05. > :06:08.mouth drops open and I remember watching him in the 2000 Guineas

:06:08. > :06:11.which was sensational, from beginning to end you are going a

:06:11. > :06:16.horse can't do this. He's kept doing it and he has more impressive.

:06:16. > :06:24.I asked Peter O'Sullivan to sum it up and how would you describe that,

:06:24. > :06:27.he said extrater resttrial. We have to thank the Prince for keeping him

:06:27. > :06:30.training another year. You don't have horses like that every year.

:06:31. > :06:34.They come once in a lifetime and I said to him I think this horse

:06:34. > :06:38.could be better next year. You have something good, let's see the best

:06:38. > :06:42.of him and well done the Prince. Would you ever think that he could

:06:42. > :06:48.be persuaded to keep him in training as a five-year-old? That's

:06:48. > :06:51.entirely up to him. I would think he would go to stud at the - this

:06:51. > :06:55.year. It's a question of whether he has three more races, or four. He

:06:55. > :07:01.will tell us. I am really lucky to have him. He is giving a lot of

:07:01. > :07:05.people a lot of fun. People outside racing they love champions and I am

:07:05. > :07:11.pleased that he's won so well for them really. A lot of people could

:07:11. > :07:17.be very disappointed today. People carrying little banners saying "go

:07:17. > :07:21.Frankel", it's just... He is exceptional. I was doing an

:07:21. > :07:25.interview with Australian television, Black Caviar is

:07:25. > :07:30.exceptional. They're both champions and someone a sprinter and one is a

:07:30. > :07:37.mile, coming to a middle distance horse. You can't compare them. They

:07:37. > :07:40.both deserve to be champions. As for putting one against the other,

:07:40. > :07:43.we are not going to be running the right distance for one or the other.

:07:43. > :07:47.It doesn't make any sense at all. Why can't you just appreciate what

:07:47. > :07:51.we have without trying to mess the whole thing up. It doesn't seem to

:07:51. > :07:56.be necessary and I think actually right that he gets his own

:07:56. > :08:02.limelight and deserves it. He gets his limelight and so does she. I am

:08:03. > :08:06.a great admirer of hers and him, as well. Well done both of them and

:08:06. > :08:13.very good for racing all over the world. She's got a lot to do to

:08:13. > :08:21.beat that type of performance. He has - let's not forget the second

:08:21. > :08:25.horse is a very, very good horse that you beat 11 lengths today. She

:08:25. > :08:29.has to put up a great performance to better this one. Well, everybody

:08:29. > :08:32.has their own opinion and I am going to keep well out of it. To me

:08:32. > :08:36.they're both champions in their own right. Well, Frankel is the best

:08:36. > :08:39.horse that's ever been. Henry, can I ask you for the length of time

:08:39. > :08:44.you have been training and success you have had here at Royal Ascot

:08:44. > :08:49.and you are the winning most trainer at Royal Ascot, 74 wins now.

:08:49. > :08:52.Does today set for you a new number one, was that the greatest

:08:52. > :09:02.performance you have seen from a horse you have trained? I have been

:09:02. > :09:03.

:09:03. > :09:10.very lucky. And fortunate to have a lot of very good horses and I have

:09:10. > :09:14.been very fortunate. And I don't like comparing them. They've all

:09:14. > :09:18.been champions and very don't deserve that. To me, thank you to

:09:18. > :09:22.them all. But your personal reaction you can say without

:09:22. > :09:25.comparing them, how good does today feel? Any win at Royal Ascot feels

:09:26. > :09:29.the same, very good. Fantastic. Thank you so much and well done.

:09:29. > :09:35.Pleasure. Sensational performance from Frankel. We will let Henry go.

:09:35. > :09:39.I suspect he may get an invitation to go to a nice box somewhere up in

:09:39. > :09:45.the Grandstand. The presentation has been happening while we were

:09:45. > :09:55.talking. Little Bridge for Hong Kong. Danny Shum, his trainer and

:09:55. > :09:57.

:09:57. > :10:01.the jockey there. The Duchess of Cornwall there.

:10:01. > :10:05.And her husband, the tpraeuls, will be -- Prince of Wales, will be

:10:05. > :10:08.making the presentation for the next race. A very big trophy to

:10:09. > :10:11.take home to Hong Kong, which they can do. What a week to look ahead

:10:11. > :10:16.to and Henry Cecil talking about Black Caviar and how much he

:10:16. > :10:19.admires her and we have her at the end of the week. I really hope the

:10:19. > :10:21.sunshine lasts, I know it's not likely to, it's due to rain on

:10:22. > :10:27.Thursday. If the weather could stay fair, we really have the

:10:27. > :10:32.ingredients for a sensational week of sport.

:10:32. > :10:36.A cloudy outlook has hung over this year's build-up due to heavy rain

:10:36. > :10:41.causing uncertainty over plans. But dry conditions for the start of the

:10:41. > :10:45.meeting, at least. A victory for the Queen in Diamond

:10:45. > :10:48.Jubilee year would be cheer to the rafters, something Carlton House

:10:48. > :10:56.seeks to provide for Her Majesty in tomorrow's Prince of Wales Stakes

:10:56. > :11:01.but he faces a tough task, against a quality field including the high-

:11:01. > :11:08.class Platvier. We have a good chance there. He is proven he is a

:11:08. > :11:16.top-class horse. If the ground is going to be on the soft side, it

:11:16. > :11:22.will be in his favour. Thursday features the most famous

:11:22. > :11:26.race of the week, the Ascot Gold Cup and for Johnny Murtagh, the

:11:26. > :11:31.staying contest is the highlight of the meeting. Gold Cup is a great

:11:31. > :11:36.race. It's a fabulous race. It's got great history. Two and a half

:11:36. > :11:40.mile around Ascot, you know, I think if you have the right horse

:11:40. > :11:45.for it, you nearly always win. The best horse nearly always wins.

:11:45. > :11:48.Thursday is also Ladies' Day, with Ascot unveiling a new dress code

:11:48. > :11:55.this week for men and women. But awareness of the finer details of

:11:55. > :12:01.the code is not yet universal. wouldn't have a clue! It's the same

:12:01. > :12:05.for us, keep it simple. No top hats and tails for us. My wife did buy a

:12:05. > :12:10.sort of a thing that to me looked like a large fascinator and I said

:12:10. > :12:13.to her, have you looked it up and it complies perfectly. So, she said

:12:14. > :12:21.it wasn't a fascinator. It was something else. But it looked like

:12:21. > :12:27.a large fascinator to me. Friday's highlight is the

:12:27. > :12:30.Coronation Stakes, it features Irish 1,000 Guineas winner and

:12:30. > :12:36.Laugh Out Loud, both trained by Mick Channon. All the lads are

:12:36. > :12:41.split. They've all got the ones they fancy and some fancy Laugh Out

:12:41. > :12:45.Loud, but that's all healthy competition. It's my job to get

:12:45. > :12:52.them both there, fit and well and let the best horse win. It might

:12:52. > :12:57.not be us, that's the other thing. For many, the best is saved for

:12:57. > :13:00.last when Australia's greatest splinter, -- sprinter Black Caviar

:13:00. > :13:05.makes her debut in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Black Caviar is

:13:05. > :13:10.going for her 22nd consecutive win amid massive worldwide interest.

:13:11. > :13:15.The interest she's created come about through her aura of inns

:13:15. > :13:19.Vincibility. She's never tasted defeat and it's unparalleled in

:13:19. > :13:29.Australian sport, whether it's a team or a single person. A tennis

:13:29. > :13:30.

:13:30. > :13:36.player or golfer or racehorse, it's unprecedented.

:13:36. > :13:40.Well, I am joined by Lisa Armstrong. Enjoying your day? Lovely, how

:13:40. > :13:47.could you not enjoy this? Beautiful weather and lots of clothes.

:13:47. > :13:51.ideal view over the paddock ring here. It's superb. Amazing. We just

:13:51. > :13:55.saw the Duchess of Cornwall giving some prize so hopl horse and --

:13:55. > :13:58.some horse and the people-watching, it's unsurpassed here. Obviously

:13:58. > :14:01.it's been the fashion guidelines that have been making the headlines

:14:01. > :14:04.yesterday. Yes. You have had a look around.

:14:04. > :14:08.Shall we look at some of the visions that we are seeing today.

:14:08. > :14:12.Tell me what you think. I think people look absolutely great. Not

:14:12. > :14:16.everyone, obviously. I think there's so many wonderful outfits.

:14:16. > :14:22.I am almost wondering where they get them from. Sometimes it's not

:14:22. > :14:28.easy to find clothes for the daytime. That's the issue. Get ago

:14:28. > :14:35.- she looks fantastic. Yes. Jubilee inspiration as well. There

:14:35. > :14:42.is, it's a look. I think what was interesting a few years ago was you

:14:42. > :14:46.couldn't buy day dresses. It was all cocktail wear and that led to

:14:46. > :14:51.problems, because you had women in very skimpy dresses. Maybe not as

:14:51. > :14:56.skimpy as that. She looks very demure. Yes, that's

:14:56. > :14:59.beautiful. I think all that sort of

:14:59. > :15:03.exhibitionism that became a hallmark of Royal Ascot is a bit

:15:03. > :15:07.tedious. I know the cameras love it, but it's just advertising most of

:15:07. > :15:12.the time for the corporates. It's much nice tore see people -- nice

:15:12. > :15:17.tore see people wearing chick clothes and she look -- chic

:15:17. > :15:22.clothes. And that's a lovely look. Beautiful

:15:22. > :15:28.hats. I think we are seeing all kinds of hats. No fascinators in

:15:28. > :15:32.the Royal Enclosure. They've banned those. Panic all round! Amazing.

:15:32. > :15:42.What's also good is the high street is really good and you can look a

:15:42. > :15:57.

:15:57. > :16:02.Palace Stakes. This race inaugurated in 1834 and has been

:16:02. > :16:12.won by some outstanding colts over the years. Let's check the runners

:16:12. > :16:12.

:16:12. > :16:55.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:16:55. > :17:05.at the meeting last year. A hugely competitive St James's Palace

:17:05. > :17:19.

:17:19. > :17:28.Stakes. Power is your favourite at for the St James's Palace Stakes.

:17:28. > :17:38.We are getting a close look at some of them. Coming behind us is

:17:38. > :17:39.

:17:39. > :17:43.Foxtrot Romeo, who was second in the Irish Guineas. He has a lot to

:17:43. > :17:48.do on strict form with Power, but you could say he is open to more

:17:48. > :17:54.improvement? You could say that. Power is a horse who finished a

:17:54. > :18:01.long way behind at Newmarket, but he came back and won the Irish

:18:01. > :18:05.equivalent. Horse 3 is Cogito who is unbeaten in a couple of runs.

:18:05. > :18:09.Last time, although he won narrowly, he was still being educated by

:18:09. > :18:13.Frankie Dettori? You have a lot of horses that could improve on what

:18:13. > :18:17.they have done. There are a lot of horses that - we have seen what

:18:17. > :18:24.they are, but they are horses that could improve because they haven't

:18:25. > :18:29.had a lot of experience. Now, here is another one, 2, Born To Sea.

:18:29. > :18:34.Johnny Murtagh on board. He is not smiling - what's the matter with

:18:34. > :18:40.him? No, he didn't break! He is a lovely horse. Interestingly, he had

:18:40. > :18:47.the hood on there and connections saying... Something to do with its

:18:47. > :18:53.temperament. Apparently, it is to do with the wind! Cotton wool down

:18:53. > :19:01.the ears! When it gets windy, he gets edgy. It is not windy today.

:19:01. > :19:05.There is Power. A lovely, strong horse, isn't he?

:19:05. > :19:10.The horses coming out on to the course to parade before the St

:19:10. > :19:17.James's Palace Stakes. They are out of order because various requests

:19:17. > :19:24.have been made so this looks like Miblish, Tom Queally the winning

:19:24. > :19:34.jockey on Frankel is on board. They are followed by The Nile. Now, this

:19:34. > :19:35.

:19:35. > :19:41.horse could be improving. Also trained by John Gosden is Fencing.

:19:41. > :19:47.Frankie Dettori rides that. That is Gregorian, John groz den's third

:19:47. > :19:55.runner. Then we -- John Gosden's third runner. Then we go back to

:19:55. > :20:03.Arnold Lane. Then we find Foxtrot Romeo, that is Richard Hughes on

:20:03. > :20:13.board for Brian Smart. And then quite a big gap. Foxtrot Romeo was

:20:13. > :20:20.

:20:20. > :20:26.runner-up to Power in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. The Prince of Wales

:20:26. > :20:34.just passed us, I said, "What did you think of Frankel, Sir?" He said,

:20:34. > :20:40."Unbelievable!" I suspect everybody is thinking that! The trainers

:20:40. > :20:44.looking as though they are grouping their horses together. Then we have

:20:44. > :20:53.Born To Sea. He wears this hood with the open eyes so it is not

:20:53. > :20:58.blinkers or a visor. One day, that horse will come good. That is Wrote,

:20:58. > :21:08.for Aidan O'Brien. Then we have Lucayan, who's got some classic-

:21:08. > :21:12.

:21:12. > :21:20.winning form. Then we have Saigon and two more to come, I suspect.

:21:20. > :21:30.And that is Power. A horse who is most likely to win this on form.

:21:30. > :21:35.Anything could happen. It is quite an open race. That is Dragon Pulse.

:21:35. > :21:41.And, finally, Gabrial, Jamie Spencer on board. A few of them

:21:41. > :21:46.just beginning to get a bit warm. When the cloud cover goes away, the

:21:47. > :21:50.sun is really warm. Not surprising that a few of these are getting a

:21:50. > :21:54.little sweaty. This is an unusual running of the

:21:54. > :21:59.St James's Palace Stakes. There's such a big field for it. Because of

:22:00. > :22:02.that, we could have a little bit of a rough race. We will show you -

:22:02. > :22:07.they start down there. The big problem they will have is this turn.

:22:07. > :22:11.It is particularly, if you have got a horse, or you are on or you have

:22:11. > :22:14.backed one, that has a high number because they are on the outside?

:22:14. > :22:18.They are. Nobody wants to be going too wide here. If you are more than

:22:18. > :22:21.four horses wide round Ascot, you are giving away a lot of ground. So

:22:21. > :22:25.the scrum will be to get inside. Let's have a look. This is the

:22:25. > :22:29.start. The old mile start. Undulating, uphill run. You can see

:22:29. > :22:34.it is uphill. Anybody who is having to use up their horse to get a

:22:34. > :22:39.position, they won't like that. Then that long - it is a nice,

:22:39. > :22:43.sweeping turn -- but it is relatively sharp. We have -- but it

:22:43. > :22:48.is a relatively sharp. We have a nice bun of horses who are trying

:22:48. > :22:55.to get a good position. -- a nice bunch of horses who are trying to

:22:55. > :23:05.get a good position? Yes. Let's have a look at the betting.

:23:05. > :23:14.

:23:14. > :23:20.Hugely competitive and Power on the favourite Power.

:23:20. > :23:25.A lovely slow-motion slot of Power. You can see Aidan O'Brien in the

:23:25. > :23:30.foreground. Always with the leading of his fancies, he will walk out on

:23:30. > :23:37.to the course with them. Joseph O'Brien the number one jockey for

:23:37. > :23:42.the Ballydoyle stable. He has shades of Lester Piggot about him.

:23:42. > :23:52.Power won the Coventry at this meeting last year. Was very

:23:52. > :23:52.

:23:52. > :23:56.disappointed in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Then won the Irish

:23:56. > :24:00.2,000 Guineas. This guy I picked out with his stable companion as

:24:00. > :24:06.being a horse I would be worried about. Twice he has knuckled over

:24:06. > :24:16.there. I don't know why that is. He just knuckled over twice. A false

:24:16. > :24:22.bit of ground, maybe. But Joseph the Lester Piggot type - coolness,

:24:22. > :24:31.he has so much confidence in his horse, in himself, he always rides

:24:31. > :24:41.a very good race. Except France, he got in a bit of a tangle there.

:24:41. > :24:48.That was the horse who has most improved? Has he? He was working

:24:48. > :24:53.the house down and then didn't run. Before the Guineas. Couldn't run

:24:53. > :24:59.then. Before the Guineas he was withdrawn. They were disappointed.

:24:59. > :25:02.He ran in the Jockey Club a couple of weeks ago... The French Derby

:25:02. > :25:06.and you were saying what a rough race that was? What a rough race

:25:06. > :25:11.that was. So, maybe, we will see a better horse today. Going back from

:25:12. > :25:16.a mile and a quarter that day to a mile - and this race here I suspect

:25:16. > :25:21.will be just like all the big races there have been over the mile in

:25:21. > :25:26.France, all the horses are similar, they are getting in one another's

:25:26. > :25:31.way, there's been pacemakers finishing in the first three and

:25:31. > :25:36.people not catching up and getting into trouble, interference. I think

:25:37. > :25:43.this race could be the same. That horse there, what's that? Fencing

:25:43. > :25:48.in the foreground and Dragon Pulse behind. The other one of John

:25:48. > :25:51.Gosden's? The Nile. What a - I hope he gets him into daylight. He is a

:25:51. > :25:56.horse I saw run last time over seven at Newmarket. I don't think...

:25:56. > :26:02.There he is. A lovely horse. He has such a long, exaggerated stride. He

:26:02. > :26:07.will run a big race today as long as he is allowed to gallop. Dragon

:26:07. > :26:17.Pulse - who is doing a bit of prancing there. He was a top class

:26:17. > :26:43.

:26:43. > :26:48.Gregory Benoist rides this one. They are all beating... You don't

:26:48. > :26:52.think there is a superstar in this? There is no superstar in three-

:26:52. > :26:55.year-olds this year. That is why we have such a big field. Everybody

:26:55. > :26:59.thinks just like I do and like you do, Clare. There is not a lot

:27:00. > :27:05.between all these horses. You were saying Born To Sea would be running

:27:05. > :27:10.a big race. One day, he's got to, hasn't he? He has taken a while to

:27:10. > :27:17.get his head straight. I spent a lot of time trying to settle them

:27:17. > :27:21.in the Guineas last time. So maybe we will see a better horse today.

:27:21. > :27:25.Intriguing race. Not too many more to go forward. It is the St James's

:27:25. > :27:30.Palace Stakes. It is our third Group 1 in a row on this opening

:27:30. > :27:37.day of Royal Ascot. It is around the round mile. It is worth

:27:37. > :27:41.167,000 to the winner. Joseph O'Brien, 19 years of age, a

:27:41. > :27:50.Derby-winning jockey already. He is yet to have a Royal Ascot winner,

:27:50. > :27:56.though. Could this be the one? Power. He knows the colt well. He

:27:56. > :28:06.is by Oasis Dream, this colt. The last one going forward. That is

:28:06. > :28:07.

:28:07. > :28:17.Hermival. We have many international viewers today. In

:28:17. > :28:23.Australia, of course, famous as a Melbourne Cup winning trainer. A

:28:23. > :28:30.very talented trainer. Joseph O'Brien at the ready. They are

:28:30. > :28:33.about set. Standby for a start. Ready. They are off in this St

:28:33. > :28:38.James's Palace Stakes on the round course and one of the first away is

:28:38. > :28:46.Born To Sea, crossing over, trying to get a handy position, then

:28:46. > :28:50.Hermival, going fast The Nile and Wrote is up vying for the lead. It

:28:50. > :28:53.is Wrote out very wide, who is challenging Hermival, right there

:28:53. > :28:58.in the centre is Foxtrot Romeo and behind them is Born To Sea as they

:28:58. > :29:05.settle into stride. They are followed by Most Improved, further

:29:05. > :29:10.back then in the centre is The Nile, followed by Gabrial, Born To Sea is

:29:10. > :29:15.trapped wide, Gregorian, Wrote has got over, followed by Saigon,

:29:15. > :29:19.further back in the field is Fencing, followed by Lucayan, then

:29:19. > :29:24.Dragon Pulse, Power is third last at this stage, followed by Miblish

:29:24. > :29:29.and Cogito is last. On the turn for home. On the inside it is Wrote who

:29:29. > :29:33.shows the way a half length in front now of Most Improved, a

:29:33. > :29:40.length-and-a-half to Gregorian, followed by Foxtrot Romeo, the

:29:40. > :29:44.inside from Lucayan - one down at the back of the field. There is a

:29:44. > :29:47.faller. One has come down. It is The Nile, The Nile has come down!

:29:47. > :29:51.They race up with a furlong-and- half to go. Most Improved gets

:29:51. > :29:55.through on the inside to grab the lead from Gregorian, Foxtrot Romeo

:29:55. > :30:00.there as well, they are clear of Hermival who is still battling on

:30:00. > :30:03.from Born To Sea, 100 yards to go, it is Most Improved going up-and-

:30:03. > :30:08.down, but he is holding on, Gregorian trying hard, Hermival is

:30:08. > :30:11.flying, but up towards the line it is Most Improved who gets the money

:30:11. > :30:15.in the St James's Palace Stakes. It is tight for second, Hermival on

:30:15. > :30:19.the near side, Gregorian on the far side, Born To Sea in fourth, from

:30:19. > :30:24.Gabrial, they are followed by Saigon, Foxtrot Romeo, further back

:30:24. > :30:29.is Cogito, they are followed by Lucayan, then Miblish, Power never

:30:29. > :30:36.got into it and back towards the rear is Arnold Lane in company with

:30:36. > :30:46.Fencing and it was William Buick who came - in fact it was Arnold

:30:46. > :30:55.

:30:55. > :31:02.who has come down. I can see William, who's actually just - he

:31:02. > :31:10.is conscious. He seems to be on his Haunches. He is doing a few

:31:10. > :31:16.exercises there. Appears to be OK. Let's see them cross the line.

:31:16. > :31:21.Let's have another look. That's Hermival in the star jacket.

:31:21. > :31:27.On the left, Most Improved, who was considered to be a Guineas colt and

:31:27. > :31:31.then lost his way, has been brought right back to form by trainer Brian

:31:31. > :31:35.Meehan and has won this Group 1 contest in really good style. He

:31:35. > :31:45.was shortening stride with 100 yards to go, but he was able to

:31:45. > :31:53.hold on and he's held on to win. Ridden by Kieron Fallon, trained by

:31:53. > :32:00.Brian Meehan. Second Hermival, it's official now. Third Gregorian.

:32:01. > :32:06.Fourth Born To Sea. So, Most Improved is the winner. I am

:32:06. > :32:11.looking down the track, I can not give you an accurate report about

:32:11. > :32:15.the horse The Nile. Doesn't look too good from what I saw earlier.

:32:15. > :32:18.We will try and give you report as soon as we can and also about

:32:18. > :32:28.William Buick, but he was conscious and he did appear to be sitting up

:32:28. > :32:38.when I saw him. Most Improved at 9- Kieron Fallon, back among the

:32:38. > :32:38.

:32:38. > :32:44.winners at Royal Ascot with a fine, determined ride. Typical of the man.

:32:44. > :32:47.There is Brian Meehan, the successful trainer walking back.

:32:47. > :32:57.Three quarters of a length and a head were the distances.

:32:57. > :32:58.

:32:58. > :33:03.The time was 1.40.14. This big first day crowd, but the

:33:03. > :33:08.crowd will build as the week unfolds.

:33:08. > :33:12.Expecting a near record crowd of 80,000 on Saturday.

:33:12. > :33:18.There is William Buick. As you can see there, he is walking away, a

:33:18. > :33:26.little cautiously. He seems to be OK, though. Great to see him moving

:33:26. > :33:30.and up on his feet. I do fear, though, for the colt The

:33:31. > :33:34.Nile. We will try to get a report as soon as possible. Kieron Fallon,

:33:34. > :33:39.great to see him back in the winners' enclosure here at Royal

:33:39. > :33:43.Ascot. The beaming smile there of Kieron

:33:44. > :33:48.Fallon and when you look at his Royal Ascot record it tells a tale.

:33:48. > :33:52.In the early days Henry Cecil providing his winners, then Sir

:33:52. > :33:58.Michael stout and years when he rode for Aidan O'Brien and then the

:33:58. > :34:02.years in the wilderness interest 2006 to 2010. One Royal Ascot

:34:02. > :34:07.winner in 2010 and this this horse the first since then. When you see

:34:07. > :34:11.him in a finish. He keeps his lower leg so still and power coming

:34:11. > :34:14.through the thigh and upper body, making sure a horse never stops on

:34:14. > :34:21.him. He's given this horse a good ride. He believed in this horse. If

:34:21. > :34:28.you read in the press, as we talked before the race, that the reports

:34:28. > :34:32.coming out was that this horse was absolute scorch in the tkpal lop --

:34:32. > :34:36.gallops and Kieron Fallon said in glowing terms how good this horse

:34:36. > :34:40.was going and he ran two weeks ago in the French Derby. Things went

:34:40. > :34:46.wrong that day but we saw the true horse today and Kieron had this

:34:46. > :34:51.horse up in the first half a dozen and gave the horse a nice clean run,

:34:51. > :35:01.got to the front and you could just see on that last film how strong

:35:01. > :35:02.

:35:02. > :35:05.Kieron is in keeping the horse going all the way in the last

:35:05. > :35:15.furlong up to the line. He is one of the strongest jockeys in a

:35:15. > :35:37.

:35:37. > :35:46.finish. winners' enclosure, Most Improved.

:35:46. > :35:49.1.40.14, that's not quick at all, it's below standard, slower than

:35:49. > :35:52.standard but that won't worry connections who have been anxious

:35:53. > :35:56.to secure a decent win with this horse. They always thought high

:35:56. > :36:05.skwraoeu of him, always thought he was up to this level. He was

:36:05. > :36:15.heavily backed for the 2000 Guineas. Then didn't make it, didn't get to

:36:15. > :36:16.

:36:16. > :36:20.post at all. He's only run this season -- his only run this season

:36:20. > :36:25.has been in June, earlier this month and in that race it was

:36:25. > :36:29.noticeable just how much interference he suffered in the

:36:29. > :36:35.home strait. There were many hard luck stories in the race, as you

:36:35. > :36:41.will recall if you saw it. Kieron Fallon was high in the irons on

:36:41. > :36:50.that occasion. It was a very, very rough race. Ended up finishing 14th,

:36:50. > :36:55.but I would say today he has been rewarded with this Group 1 victory

:36:55. > :37:00.in the St James's Palace Stakes. Let's check the full result now on

:37:00. > :37:05.this Group 1 with John. Yes, the winner for Kieron Fallon,

:37:05. > :37:10.Most Improved. Hermival, the same price. Third Gregorian, and well

:37:10. > :37:14.done to the punter who had 20,000 eachway at the start and cleared

:37:15. > :37:19.over 215,000. The winning trainer has always

:37:19. > :37:22.believed he had a a superstar in Most Improved. During the winter

:37:22. > :37:26.there was all sorts of chat about how good this horse was becoming.

:37:27. > :37:30.What was he doing that inspired it? Just really good work. He matured

:37:30. > :37:35.physically and he was in great shape and obviously today we were

:37:35. > :37:40.right. It's great really. He is a lovely big horse, lots of scope.

:37:40. > :37:44.He's just been a little bit unlucky this spring. He had a setback this

:37:44. > :37:48.made him miss the English Guineas, what was that? He got a little bit

:37:48. > :37:52.of bone pain going through to his joints, pretty minor, just needs

:37:52. > :37:56.managing and we got good advice and help and he is fine now. When did

:37:56. > :38:02.you decide to come to the St James's Palace, because I thought

:38:02. > :38:06.couple of weeks ago maybe Cogito was going to are your only runner?

:38:06. > :38:13.Possibly. He ran in the French Derby and nothing went right and

:38:13. > :38:16.Kieron was pretty upset with the race after and we thought - the

:38:16. > :38:20.owner said why don't we stick to the plan and stay with a mile and

:38:20. > :38:23.he was in the race, so it made sense. Let's have a word with the

:38:23. > :38:27.winning jockey, Kieron Fallon. First of all, hate to take you back

:38:27. > :38:31.to what happened in France and the Derby, but remind us how unlucky

:38:31. > :38:35.you were that day. Well, forgetting about the interference down the

:38:35. > :38:41.back, I was caught newspaper the strait. He -- caught newspaper the

:38:41. > :38:46.strait. He lost both his front shoes. Now he proves how good he

:38:46. > :38:49.could have been. But that wasn't to be. This has made up for it today.

:38:49. > :38:54.Brave performance as well, because he is in front a long way from home

:38:54. > :39:01.here at Ascot and it's not easy to fend them off. I have already been

:39:01. > :39:06.told! But, he is a quickener. We went a nice one, but I had faith in

:39:06. > :39:09.him. I know how good he is. He proved it today. There's a little

:39:09. > :39:13.twinkle in your eye when you are talking about him, what makes him

:39:14. > :39:17.so special? He is a beautiful mover. The first time on him, you could

:39:17. > :39:21.never ride a better mover. He has a great attitude and proved himself

:39:21. > :39:25.at two. Do you think by the end of this season he will prove himself

:39:25. > :39:28.the best three-year-old miler? is going to keep improving. This is

:39:28. > :39:36.a great race to win today and if he can improve on this he will be hard

:39:36. > :39:40.to beat. Well done. Thank you. Let's look back at the start of the

:39:40. > :39:46.St James's Palace Stakes. Here is the winner, look how high he is,

:39:46. > :39:50.stall number 15. That's a difficult draw. His stablemate, Cogito, is

:39:50. > :39:55.going to be the meat in the sandwich. Look for the favourite

:39:55. > :39:59.here, Power. Didn't get a particularly great break and with a

:39:59. > :40:04.big field like this, all going to come to the left of screen. Joseph

:40:04. > :40:09.has to sit there and suffer to begin with. It's all a bit tight.

:40:09. > :40:12.This emphasises how good Kieron Fallon is on the big day. He

:40:12. > :40:15.managed to tack across without interfering with anybody. Into a

:40:15. > :40:19.perfect position. Most Improved, one from the right there. I am

:40:19. > :40:23.really impressed by how well he's done from this draw. Settled in

:40:23. > :40:28.about fifth or 6th position early on. We are going to come to the

:40:28. > :40:32.home strait now for the closing stages. Here is Power, he has been

:40:32. > :40:36.very badly hampered by the incident to The Nile. The winner already in

:40:36. > :40:45.front. Look at this horse here, Hermival in the blue colours, he

:40:45. > :40:50.stays on really stoutly at the end. Looks like he needs further. Johnny

:40:50. > :40:54.phurt was delight -- Murtagh was delighted with him. Spoke to Joseph

:40:54. > :40:57.O'Brien on Power, he said he got knocked over twice and that was the

:40:57. > :41:02.end of the race. Most Improved on the rails there. Gregorian the

:41:02. > :41:08.green jacket. Hermival next to him. Born To Sea coming on there.

:41:08. > :41:12.Further back you can ignore the run of Power. Events really conspired

:41:12. > :41:16.against him today. It really worked out for Brian Meehan.

:41:17. > :41:20.Well, I am sorry to report that The Nile has been put down and William

:41:20. > :41:24.Buick says it was the most horrific accident he has ever been involved

:41:24. > :41:30.in. The horse broke down very badly and there was no saving him and

:41:30. > :41:33.just a great shame and he is very lucky not to have been injured in

:41:33. > :41:37.that and you can see there that James Doyle in the background

:41:37. > :41:40.looking at him and the other jockeys also aware that - you

:41:41. > :41:44.assume flat racing is less dangerous than jump racing and

:41:44. > :41:48.actually the opposite can be true because they're travelling so fast

:41:48. > :41:52.that when when something does go wrong it can be a dangerous

:41:52. > :41:57.situation to be in. Awful, as well for the horse and for the

:41:57. > :42:02.connections. It wasn't a rough race in the sense that the French Derby

:42:02. > :42:07.was a rough race. I don't think - it wasn't caused. The horse broke

:42:07. > :42:11.down. The horse put his foot down wrong or whatever it was and the

:42:11. > :42:17.bone bone snapped, I suppose. These things do happen every now and

:42:17. > :42:27.again. It's nobody's fault. There we are. But when, as you said,

:42:27. > :42:29.

:42:29. > :42:33.Clare, when accidents happen on the flat, we are going... 37mph. I said

:42:33. > :42:37.you stand on top of a mini, go 30mph, jump off, that's fine you

:42:37. > :42:43.can roll on a bit of grass but it's all the other minis behind you that

:42:43. > :42:50.hit you. It's can shall dangerous! --. It can be dangerous.

:42:50. > :42:54.presentation being made by Prince of Wales. Most Improved, a horse

:42:54. > :42:57.living up to his name. You don't call a horse that unless you are

:42:57. > :43:01.hoping it's going to be half-decent. Definitely giving them all

:43:01. > :43:06.compensation for missing the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and getting a

:43:06. > :43:16.rough run in the French Derby. I was mentioning that Prince Charles

:43:16. > :43:26.

:43:26. > :43:35.said his summing up of Frankel's big yard and good horses. An old

:43:35. > :43:42.yard that Barry Hills trained at. Fantastic gal Lordships -- gallops.

:43:42. > :43:52.Good facilities. That will be a huge, huge filip, a boost to the

:43:52. > :43:58.

:43:58. > :44:01.finish of the St James's Palace Stakes. Kieron Fallon in full drive

:44:01. > :44:04.mode. He is a - although he is physically strong, he is very

:44:04. > :44:08.sympathetic in terms of use of the whip. He will only go to the whip

:44:08. > :44:13.if he absolutely has to. Tries to do it all with his legs and arms

:44:13. > :44:16.and his body and the momentum of the horse being all-important.

:44:16. > :44:22.Galvanises them. And does from a long way out. Believes in getting

:44:22. > :44:26.them going early. Get a rhythm and he doesn't have always a tight hold

:44:26. > :44:31.of the horse's head but uses the whole body, his legs and as you

:44:31. > :44:34.said, the whole rhythm of him. He is propelling the horse forward,

:44:34. > :44:38.making - what you are trying to do when you are riding a horse, you

:44:38. > :44:42.are trying to get them to lengthen and stretch that front leg and as

:44:42. > :44:51.he is doing all that he is saying to the horse, go, stretch, stretch.

:44:51. > :44:55.He whistles. He whistles at them. The jockeys say you can hear him

:44:55. > :44:57.coming. Let's look at what's happened so far on the first day

:44:57. > :45:03.and across the races that have already been run on a sensational

:45:03. > :45:07.day. The weather has been perfect, the

:45:07. > :45:13.Royal Procession, as always, a tkphrorious event -- glorious event.

:45:13. > :45:23.And thousands of people coming in here to enjoy a day at the races, a

:45:23. > :45:27.

:45:27. > :45:35.day of high class sport, a day of boosted by many Australians. They

:45:35. > :45:38.will be watching Black Caviar in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. 12.45am

:45:38. > :45:44.in the morning that race takes place in Australia. A lot of them

:45:44. > :45:50.are based in the UK, they are coming racing on Saturday. It is a

:45:50. > :45:53.huge sell-out. Luke Nolan rides Black Caviar and Rishi caught up

:45:53. > :45:57.with him. I have been joined by Luke Nolan

:45:57. > :46:07.who has the ride on Black Caviar. Give us a bit of insight into what

:46:07. > :46:09.

:46:09. > :46:13.she is like? She is a big mare. She carries herself with a fair amount

:46:13. > :46:23.of grace. Coupled with tremendous ability. She's also very relaxed.

:46:23. > :46:36.

:46:36. > :46:41.She has a relaxed dee mee nour. -- has been the Black Caviar story for

:46:41. > :46:46.me. You have ridden her in the majority of her races. Yes.

:46:46. > :46:50.seems to me that every time she wins, there is a lot more there. So

:46:50. > :46:54.how much of her true ability do you think we have seen? Look, I think,

:46:54. > :47:02.a number of times we probably haven't seen the top of her. But

:47:02. > :47:12.she's had those races well won. Look, that's probably the reason

:47:12. > :47:19.

:47:19. > :47:25.for her longevity. She probably hasn't had these runs. We have seen

:47:25. > :47:35.her and she responds. These mares, they go about winning races very

:47:35. > :47:36.

:47:36. > :47:41.easily. She is far from complacent. She has been over now ten days. Are

:47:41. > :47:44.there any concerns? Are you full of confidence that she will win the

:47:44. > :47:48.Diamond Jubilee? We are not that sort of confidence camp. We are

:47:48. > :47:52.happy with where she is at. We can't worry about the form, the

:47:53. > :47:59.weather. We can only control her. Her work this morning was first

:47:59. > :48:06.rate. She didn't necessarily need another gallop before she got on

:48:06. > :48:11.the plane. She's coped with her trip so well. We gave her a nice

:48:11. > :48:14.gallop this morning. She has come through it in fine order. From our

:48:14. > :48:20.standpoint, we are very happy. can't wait to see her on Saturday.

:48:20. > :48:23.All the best of luck. Cheers. As you can see, this is pretty much

:48:23. > :48:31.the perfect place to watch the racing at Royal Ascot. You can see

:48:31. > :48:35.the whole course. This is great. Have you been enjoying it?

:48:35. > :48:40.Wonderful. To start the day watching Frankel win by an enormous

:48:40. > :48:45.lead was a real privilege. Almost emotional to watch a magnificent

:48:45. > :48:49.creature like that? Very emotional. We were all jumping up-and-down.

:48:49. > :48:53.You are into your racing, you ride yourself? I do. I rode as a child.

:48:53. > :48:57.I don't ride as much as I would like to now. Pressures of work

:48:57. > :49:02.and... Yeah. We have been talking to people today and they have been

:49:02. > :49:09.saying it is historically quite difficult to get an outfit right

:49:09. > :49:15.for occasional wear. Do you feel as though the Amanda Wakeley brand

:49:15. > :49:19.embraces that? We try to. We try to tick that occasion-dressing box. It

:49:19. > :49:23.is always a challenge to get the whole look completely right. When

:49:23. > :49:27.you have got to not just think about the dress, but the hat and

:49:27. > :49:36.the shoes and the belt and the bag, too. In terms of designing an

:49:36. > :49:42.outfit, what are you thinking about? All sorts of different ages,

:49:42. > :49:50.different body shapes. And the fact that it needs to be still look

:49:50. > :49:53.contemporary, too, rather than - it needs a modern edge. In terms of

:49:53. > :49:58.comfort, how important is that? I know you are supposed to suffer for

:49:58. > :50:03.fashion? No, I don't believe you should suffer for fashion at all. I

:50:03. > :50:06.think comfort is paramount. I think - so I use quite a lot of stretch

:50:06. > :50:16.fabrics and that is always very colourful. That is always good when

:50:16. > :50:17.

:50:17. > :50:22.you have had a nice dinner! Exactly. LAUGHTER So, you are here all week

:50:22. > :50:27.showing? Yes. Ascot has become a showcase for designers, which is

:50:27. > :50:31.great. It really is. The fashion is part of Royal Ascot. I'm sort of

:50:32. > :50:38.looking over your shoulder and spying Rory Bremner. Do you mind

:50:39. > :50:45.coming in and joining us? I will be wearing a selection of Amanda

:50:45. > :50:49.Wakeley dresses later in the afternoon! For the man in your life

:50:49. > :50:52.who likes to wear dresses. It's been a lovely day. I always have a

:50:52. > :50:56.bet on the Duchess of Cornwall in the procession. Only each-way, she

:50:56. > :51:01.is always placed, but I am hoping she will cut by the rails and get

:51:01. > :51:05.past the Queen and get to the winning line first. She's always a

:51:06. > :51:09.winner in the fashion stakes. That is something I would like to

:51:10. > :51:14.ask you about. It is quite well documented that Kate Middleton has

:51:14. > :51:21.been wearing some of your clothes. How important is that as a designer

:51:21. > :51:26.for you to have...? When anywell- known high-profile person wears

:51:26. > :51:33.your cleeth -- any well-known high- profile person wears your clothes -

:51:33. > :51:39.not Rory - it is always good for your brand. It always helps.

:51:39. > :51:46.great endorsement. My wife wears Amanda Wakeley. I sometimes do!

:51:46. > :51:51.I ask you about the next race? I have not done very well so far.

:51:51. > :52:01.23 runners. So you pays your money and takes your choice! I have been

:52:01. > :52:04.

:52:04. > :52:11.told to go for Sir Prancealot. BRUCE FORSYTH: He loves his racing!

:52:11. > :52:14.I will be going for Olympic Glory. Very good. Top tips from Rory

:52:14. > :52:19.Bremner. Lovely to talk to you. Thank you very much. Pleasure.

:52:19. > :52:24.will see if you are right. I recommend you would stay up there

:52:24. > :52:31.because it is a perfect view for this race. We have a big field for

:52:31. > :52:41.the Coventry, 22 runners in total. Two of them are trained by Charlie

:52:41. > :52:47.

:52:47. > :52:51.important in horse racing, not just for the horses but the humans as

:52:51. > :52:56.well. One of the most successful families in racing is the Hills.

:52:56. > :53:06.Barry was a top racing trainer for more than four decades. Now Charlie

:53:06. > :53:10.is in charge and you could say he was bred for the job. Being born

:53:10. > :53:17.into it, training is part of every day life. You are always talking

:53:17. > :53:22.about horses. All right, Bill? Imagine someone who hasn't come

:53:22. > :53:27.from a racing background, "I fancy being a trainer." What would your

:53:27. > :53:32.advice be? You have to put the work in and get the experience first.

:53:32. > :53:37.One, two, three... Good. I left school when I was 16. I went

:53:37. > :53:42.straight into it. You never stop learning in this game. Dad keeps

:53:42. > :53:48.saying now, he has been in it for 40 years, he still sees things he

:53:48. > :53:51.has never seen before. Kind of steady, OK? I wanted to ask you

:53:52. > :53:58.about taking over from your dad. When did you know he was going to

:53:58. > :54:02.call it a day? It was the end of July, really, last year. You didn't

:54:02. > :54:08.know during Royal Ascot last year? No. He said he would be giving up

:54:08. > :54:18.after the Ebor meeting. I suppose you have it in the back of your

:54:18. > :54:25.mind that it is going to happen pretty soon. Yes. Where we are now

:54:25. > :54:31.is - dad's built this from scratch. Maybe if James, my son, or Edward

:54:31. > :54:36.wants to do it, that would be great. What was it like all the years you

:54:36. > :54:45.followed him? He is pretty tough. You learn not to ask silly

:54:45. > :54:49.questions because you will get told where to go! He was very fair. I

:54:49. > :54:53.think, you know, I'm still learning from him. He watches the horses

:54:53. > :54:57.every morning. He is great to have around. It is an evolving situation

:54:57. > :55:00.in racing. There is a generation that seems to be moving to one side

:55:00. > :55:03.and the younger generation coming through. Do you feel now is the

:55:03. > :55:06.time you can start doing things differently? Do you feel that there

:55:06. > :55:11.is more room for science in training? I think so. There is

:55:11. > :55:21.probably more coming through. Those old methods have stood the test of

:55:21. > :55:30.time. You sound like your dad! Really? LAUGHTER For me, if I can

:55:30. > :55:35.carry on the winners, I have done well. I will be happy, really.

:55:35. > :55:41.Every young trainer's dream to have a Royal Ascot winner. Could this be

:55:41. > :55:51.Charlie Hills'? That is one of them that he's got here. That is Funk

:55:51. > :55:56.

:55:56. > :56:01.Soul Brother. He's also got Englishman. So let's have a look at

:56:01. > :56:11.the runners and riders for the Coventry Stakes. A big field of 22

:56:11. > :56:11.

:56:11. > :57:19.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:57:19. > :57:29.here. 10 Jubilee Brig comes out. Stakes is Sir Prancealot. Backed

:57:29. > :57:44.

:57:45. > :57:46.into 7-2. He is joint favourite now backed in from 5-1 to 7-2. It is

:57:46. > :57:53.now joint favourite with Dawn Approach.

:57:53. > :57:58.Here is the son of the trainer. Sir Prancealot, John Parrott saying

:57:58. > :58:03.well supported for this race to give you another winner following

:58:03. > :58:09.Canford Cliffs? He is one of four in the race for you, Richard. Is he

:58:09. > :58:12.the best? Yeah, he is the best. We worked them together on Sunday

:58:12. > :58:21.morning. They all worked nicely. Master Of War has a lot of speed.

:58:21. > :58:26.He is drawn on the far side. We like The Taj. A very nice colt. Sir

:58:26. > :58:31.Prancealot looks a very good animal. If they go too quick, hopefully he

:58:31. > :58:36.will get the trip. He was extremely impressive last time. He had to be

:58:36. > :58:40.checked for a run. What he did was impressive. That was over five.

:58:40. > :58:43.This is more of a test? They went very fast that day. They stopped

:58:43. > :58:51.very quick. That probably made him look more impressive than he could

:58:51. > :58:57.have been. He is a very good animal. An ideal Ascot horse. Olympic Glory

:58:57. > :59:04.should run well, too. I hope I will be chatting to you after the race.

:59:04. > :59:09.That would be great! Good luck. This is a very difficult race to

:59:09. > :59:13.predict for so many reasons. One, they are all two-year-olds, so they

:59:13. > :59:16.have seen the racecourse relatively few times. Dawn Approach is

:59:16. > :59:19.unbeaten in three starts. His trainer is making the sort of

:59:19. > :59:24.noises that suggests this could be the best two-year-old he has ever

:59:24. > :59:31.trained. He is the son of the Derby winner that Jim trained New

:59:31. > :59:38.of him? I love him. He has such a relaxed attitude. When the stalls

:59:38. > :59:43.open, this fella will have to come to life. 22 of these two-year-old

:59:43. > :59:47.also be blitzing up that straight. This fella will need all of his

:59:47. > :59:52.resolve. He looked good. This fella has shown plenty of speed in the

:59:52. > :59:56.past. I spoke to Kevin manning earlier and he likes -- Kevin

:59:56. > :00:00.Manning earlier and he really likes him. Six furlongs today. And a

:00:00. > :00:05.field of 22 and just have a look at him in super-slow-motion. You can

:00:06. > :00:15.see that extension from the shoulder and pointing his toe.

:00:16. > :00:16.

:00:16. > :01:18.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:01:18. > :01:26.Could do dressage with a stride versatile so hopefully we will ride

:01:26. > :01:32.for a bit of luck and hopefully it will come off. I have learned how

:01:32. > :01:37.the race is going to be ridden for me. It was kept quiet from you, me

:01:37. > :01:41.and Mr Webber spoke about the tactics and it was probably the

:01:41. > :01:45.best thing to do was to try and get in somewhere, probably further back

:01:45. > :01:48.than we would want to be, but better off doing that than going

:01:48. > :01:51.too wide and trying to ride for a bit of luck later on. Have you got

:01:51. > :01:54.your excuse ready for him afterwards if it all goes horribly

:01:55. > :02:00.wrong? You don't have an excuse when you are riding for him, you

:02:00. > :02:10.get in trouble whatever you do. Best of throubg both of you -- of

:02:10. > :02:15.luck to both of you. William Carson, the grandson of

:02:15. > :02:18.Willie. This a different prospect, two-year-olds over six furlongs and

:02:18. > :02:22.Cristoforo Colombo, Joseph O'Brien riding for his father, not his

:02:22. > :02:30.grandfather, but his father Aidan O'Brien and this is their chosen

:02:30. > :02:34.runner in this race and he is a son of Henry The Navigater.'s nice type

:02:34. > :02:39.as well. It's interesting this fella is the chosen mount of Joseph.

:02:39. > :02:44.Won at Navan. Jumped off handy that day, stayed there, quickened up in

:02:44. > :02:52.the style of a smart horse and he was never really extended. He

:02:52. > :02:57.showed plenty on his debut. Let's look at Lines Of Battle. Ryan Moore

:02:57. > :03:01.taking the ride of this one. Winner three weeks ago. And again one

:03:01. > :03:05.that's definitely open to progress. Without a doubt. A lot of people

:03:05. > :03:15.put this fella down as a real improver. I watched the race again

:03:15. > :03:17.

:03:17. > :03:20.and I thought - he obviously feels it's a smart horse. But this fella,

:03:20. > :03:23.they don't run horses in races and book Ryan Moore if they're going to

:03:23. > :03:27.have horses down the field. Frankie Dettori, we would love to see him

:03:27. > :03:30.have a winner at some point this week. Artigiano will have to

:03:30. > :03:33.improve a bit to be the one, because on form with Funk Soul

:03:33. > :03:36.Brother you wouldn't think that he would finish in front of Funk Soul

:03:36. > :03:39.Brother, but stranger things have happened. He is a real improver

:03:39. > :03:44.this fella. There's no doubt, he looked like he benefited from the

:03:44. > :03:50.experience when he ran and won at Leicester. He was impressive on

:03:51. > :03:55.that occasion and couldn't have done it any easier.

:03:55. > :03:59.So many to consider and a lot of it you do on looks and literally what

:03:59. > :04:06.catches your eye and looks well, who is gleaming at the moment, who

:04:06. > :04:10.looks well in their coat. Walking towards us, that's The Taj. Paul

:04:10. > :04:17.Hanagan doing really well in his new job now, the job that Willie

:04:17. > :04:20.Carson used to hold. He is such a likeable fella, Paul. Not a single

:04:20. > :04:24.person who wishes him wrong, that's for sure. This horse, he did it

:04:24. > :04:28.nicely in his maiden at Doncaster. Again another horse that wasn't

:04:28. > :04:38.really tested so you don't know how good Coe be. He -- how good he

:04:38. > :05:06.

:05:06. > :05:09.on Funk Soul Brother. He was getting geed up in the paddock. He

:05:09. > :05:13.was thinking of things he should not have been thinking of. Quite

:05:13. > :05:17.keen when he won as well. They really like him at the Hills camp.

:05:17. > :05:21.I would love to have another look at Sir Prancealot if he hasn't gone

:05:21. > :05:28.in already and Dawn Approach, going off joint favourites by the looks

:05:28. > :05:31.of things. They may already have gone in. He was sresually --

:05:31. > :05:35.visually impressive, Sir Prancealot. I was so so taken by him, probably

:05:35. > :05:40.the most visually impressive two- year-old performance this season

:05:40. > :05:46.when he won at Sandown. Had trouble in running but quickened up smartly.

:05:46. > :05:51.For you would the pick be Sir Prancealot? I can't get away from

:05:51. > :05:54.Kevin Manning's love of this horse. Dawn. So one of the two. That's

:05:54. > :05:58.probably why they're joint favourite, Jim.

:05:58. > :06:01.Interesting, they're two entirely different types as well. There is

:06:01. > :06:06.Kevin Manning who rides Dawn Approach, looks a horse who will go

:06:06. > :06:16.on as a three-year-old. Sir Prancealot is a real two-year-old.

:06:16. > :06:22.

:06:22. > :06:27.He is lightly made and he looks as if he's been pro pro coious enough.

:06:27. > :06:30.They're looked away. Stand by, that's it. They're racing!

:06:30. > :06:34.Out in the centre Dawn Approach got away OK, but Indian Jade is going

:06:34. > :06:40.to be the early leader. Indian Jade up there in the centre vying for

:06:40. > :06:42.that lead. Now kicking on is Leitir Mor. Party Royal there as well. In

:06:42. > :06:51.company with The Taj and Sir Prancealot dropped in behind with

:06:51. > :06:55.Englishman. Right over on the far side is Baddilini going sfrbgs s --

:06:55. > :07:03.solo. The Taj and Leitir Mor vying for the early lead. Up there as

:07:03. > :07:06.well is boy followed by Englishman. Behind them is Living Desert.

:07:06. > :07:10.Followed then by Dawn Approach. He is hard at work Manning and trying

:07:10. > :07:14.to get a response here as they race up with two furlongs left to go.

:07:14. > :07:19.Leitir Mor in front of The Taj going well. Up there on the outside,

:07:19. > :07:23.here is Dawn Approach. Indian Jade behind them, followed by Englishman.

:07:23. > :07:27.They're stretched across the track now. Cristoforo Colombo is running

:07:27. > :07:32.on fairly well. A furlong left to go now. Cristoforo Colombo on the

:07:32. > :07:37.far side. But now Dawn Approach is coming at him. Cristoforo Colombo

:07:37. > :07:42.in front. Dawn Approach has gained the upper hand and Dawn Approach

:07:42. > :07:47.goes on to win the Coventry. Olympic Glory for second,

:07:47. > :07:52.Cristoforo Colombo third. A long gap in the field then to Sir

:07:52. > :07:58.Prancealot. They were followed by Artigiano, followed then by Lines

:07:58. > :08:02.Of Battle, back towards the rear of the field is Mrs Brown's Boy. He

:08:02. > :08:08.showed greenness, but a lot of courage. He was under pressure a

:08:08. > :08:14.long way out. Dawn Approach. He got there for Kevin Manning. Tight

:08:15. > :08:19.second, I favour the near side. Olympic Glory, getting up to beat

:08:19. > :08:25.Cristoforo Colombo for second place. Cristoforo Colombo third. 4th Sir

:08:25. > :08:30.Prancealot, then Artigiano. Further back in the field then it looks

:08:30. > :08:36.like that might be Lines Of Battle out there in the centre.

:08:36. > :08:45.Hard to sort them out here. Leitir Mor on the near side in the yellow.

:08:45. > :08:48.Indian Jade, showed so much speed. Near side you have got The Taj,

:08:48. > :08:53.Master Of War made up some ground as well.

:08:53. > :08:57.We are getting the distances there. Englishman faded right out of the

:08:57. > :09:02.picture. Well beaten. As you can see, the stragglers are

:09:02. > :09:12.a long, long way back. No doubt about the winner, Dawn Approach. A

:09:12. > :09:12.

:09:12. > :09:22.colt by New Approach. Trained by Jim Bolger, and ridden by Kevin

:09:22. > :09:24.

:09:24. > :09:28.Manning. Second is Olympic Glory, third Cristoforo Colombo. Fourth,

:09:28. > :09:34.Sir Prancealot, ridden by Richard Hughes. Distance three quarters of

:09:34. > :09:38.a length and a neck and the time was 1.13.64. Started 7-2. Didn't

:09:38. > :09:41.even end up favourite. Jim said he thought he was the best

:09:41. > :09:46.two-year-old he had ever trained and he's justified that sort of

:09:46. > :09:50.belief there. Coe end up being his Derby horse for for next year. I

:09:50. > :09:53.suspect the phone will be ringing for Jim Bolger because people will

:09:53. > :09:57.be wanting to buy this horse T may be that a deal will be done. You

:09:57. > :10:02.never know, because how good a trainer you are, you can't own a

:10:02. > :10:07.part own all the own horses in your own yard. Kevin Manning starts to

:10:07. > :10:09.go after him. He's responding all the time. He is responding all the

:10:10. > :10:14.time. Leitir Mor you can see in the yellow, that's Jim's other horse

:10:14. > :10:18.who almost set the pace for him. This horse, Jim said it before,

:10:18. > :10:22.this fella is a real improving type and if you look at when he was

:10:22. > :10:26.foaled, this horse was foaled on 23rd April and for two-year-olds

:10:26. > :10:30.that's very late. You are aiming to get as close as you can to January

:10:30. > :10:34.1st because that's when all the horses are aged by. He's actually

:10:34. > :10:38.six weeks younger than the third horse, Cristoforo Colombo and a

:10:38. > :10:41.month younger than the second horse, Olympic Glory. Which to ordinary

:10:41. > :10:46.people might seem like nothing but in two-year-old terms that's a lot

:10:46. > :10:50.because these horses develop, have to develop so quickly. This is a

:10:50. > :10:53.markedly impressive performance. He is getting quotes of around 16-1

:10:53. > :11:00.for next year's Guineas and would you think that's the - we are

:11:00. > :11:03.looking at a potential classic winner. Official time there 1.13.

:11:03. > :11:08.All the times have been off off standard, apart from Frankel's

:11:09. > :11:12.which was a sensational time. It's not bad, actually. That's not too

:11:12. > :11:17.bad. He is so relaxed coming back in, that's the sign of a good horse.

:11:17. > :11:21.It hasn't taken too much out of him. Good run from Olympic Glory, made a

:11:21. > :11:26.lot of ground and Cristoforo Colombo not disgraced. They pulled

:11:26. > :11:30.a long way clear, Sir Prancealot leading home the rest. It had the

:11:30. > :11:34.feel of a quality race. He wasn't travelling as well as some of the

:11:34. > :11:38.others but he ground it out and showed real class. Richard Hannon

:11:38. > :11:48.will be absolutely delighted with his other horse, because he's flown

:11:48. > :11:55.from the back. Won an ordinary race at Goodwood, probably lacked

:11:55. > :11:58.experience. There he is, Dawn Approach, no surprise he is getting

:11:58. > :12:03.quotes for next year's classics because he is looking for a step

:12:03. > :12:10.newspaper trip already. -- step up in trip already. You can bet Jim

:12:10. > :12:20.will be aiming this horse now at Newmarket in the second part part

:12:20. > :12:26.

:12:26. > :12:31.we will check those details in due course. But have a look at him,

:12:31. > :12:35.from the first crop of New Approach, a little bit of his dad in him. I

:12:35. > :12:42.would say he's got a more relaxed temperament than his father, that's

:12:42. > :12:48.for sure. There he is. He comes back and the thing is that they

:12:49. > :12:56.know the breed, the Bolger team. They've had experience of the breed

:12:56. > :13:01.before. It really does help when you are seeing them generation

:13:01. > :13:07.after generation and handling them and training them. It really does -

:13:07. > :13:10.it's a great assistance when you know exactly what their

:13:10. > :13:16.predecessors might have liked and what sort of training they may have

:13:16. > :13:26.benefited from. There is the man himself, Jim

:13:26. > :13:48.

:13:48. > :13:51.Bolger. His son-in-law, Kevin Manning, the jockey.

:13:51. > :13:53.We are going to hear a lot more about Dawn Approach, unbeaten in

:13:54. > :14:03.four starts. Let's look at the full results now. John, what ended up

:14:04. > :14:10.

:14:10. > :14:16.Ladbrokes if you are interested. Get on the phone now if you want to

:14:16. > :14:21.do that. Jim and his wife and son- in-law Kevin Manning having a

:14:21. > :14:25.photograph with Dawn Approach. 16-1 with Ladbrokes for the 2000 Guineas

:14:25. > :14:30.at Newmarket next year. And, of course, his sire, New

:14:30. > :14:34.Approach was trained by Jim himself. We will grab a word with Jim as

:14:34. > :14:41.soon as the photos are done. Of course, Jim trained New Approach

:14:41. > :14:45.to win the Derby. Jim, can I have a brief word. You

:14:45. > :14:50.are better now after that? Well, sure, I am pretty well all the time,

:14:50. > :14:54.thank God. The horse is one that you have always thought a lot of.

:14:54. > :15:04.You have been quoted or people have said you said that this is the best

:15:04. > :15:05.

:15:05. > :15:10.said he's as good as I've had had. Expand more on what his qualities

:15:10. > :15:15.are? He has pace, he has stamina, he has the looks, the temperament.

:15:15. > :15:19.There are no holes in this fella.? Would he have the speed for a 2000

:15:19. > :15:24.Guineas and perhaps go a bit further? I don't see him going

:15:24. > :15:30.beyond the mile and I don't want him to go beyond the mile. That

:15:30. > :15:35.will do him. The sign says he will only stay the mile. How proud are

:15:35. > :15:39.you to have trained a horse like him? I don't do pride, because I'm

:15:39. > :15:45.aware of the consequence. You have sold a lot of very good two-year-

:15:45. > :15:49.old on to the other owners is. He a horse that would be up for sale?

:15:49. > :15:54.Sure, I have to keep the show on the road, so if somebody makes me

:15:54. > :15:58.an offer I can't refuse, then we would probably have to part with

:15:58. > :16:04.him, but I'm happy enough to have him for as long as we can have him.

:16:04. > :16:09.He's had four starts already. Where next for him? I will probably give

:16:09. > :16:14.him a little break. He is a very gross horse. He grubs very well, so

:16:14. > :16:19.the break won't get to be too long. I stay Curragh, the national Stakes,

:16:19. > :16:24.and if I can find the space for him in the Dewhurst with the other two-

:16:24. > :16:29.year-olds I have, maybe the Dewhurst. There is always

:16:29. > :16:34.Longchamps as well. Three more runs I hope. Jim, thank you for talking

:16:34. > :16:38.to us. You're welcome. Kevin, take us through what happened there. We

:16:39. > :16:45.were looking at you at one stage and it looked to be hard work for

:16:45. > :16:50.him. I didn't think we went overly mad early on. We built up to it.

:16:50. > :16:56.Six furlongs is his minimum and when he found top gear in the last

:16:56. > :17:00.furlong, it was all over. Jim said as good a two-year-old as he's had.

:17:00. > :17:04.When you sit on him, what are your impressions? I think he's probably

:17:04. > :17:09.as smart a two-year-old as I've ridden. He's winning over a trip

:17:09. > :17:13.that's probably not his best. I think when he steps up to seven

:17:13. > :17:20.furlongs you will see a real horse. Is he a natural type for the

:17:20. > :17:25.Guineas? He has the right attitude, a great cruising gear, turn of foot.

:17:25. > :17:32.He ticks all the boxes. similarities with the sire, who you

:17:32. > :17:38.also rode? He didn't have the pace that this lad had. It is not his

:17:38. > :17:44.ideal trip, six furlongs. Thank you Kevin. Thank you very much.

:17:44. > :17:54.And Kevin Manning will make his way towards the trophy presentation

:17:54. > :17:56.

:17:56. > :18:02.podium. Jackie Boulger receiving the trophy. Henry, the voice of

:18:02. > :18:10.Test Match Special, he might say to Kevin. That's a performance with

:18:10. > :18:17.which we are most impressed. Let's look back at the Coventry

:18:17. > :18:24.Stakes with Willie. A couple of horses to look at. Paul Hanagan's

:18:24. > :18:29.The Taj. Ruins his chance. Daryl Holland's horse was playing up

:18:29. > :18:35.beforehand. He missed the break. And stable mate of the winner,

:18:35. > :18:41.drawn next to him at stalls 14, slow in his stride buts obvious the

:18:41. > :18:47.plan is to get him in front early on. It looks as if he there to help

:18:47. > :18:51.Dawn Approach. He pushes him away, pushes hard and Dawn Approach slips

:18:51. > :18:57.in behind him. That gave him a nice lead. Just like he does at home.

:18:57. > :19:01.But the one nearest to us in the flu jacket. Going far too free.

:19:01. > :19:05.He's never going get the winning post pulling like that. Obviously

:19:05. > :19:09.next time they'll have to settle him down a bit. He need to learn to

:19:09. > :19:19.settle a bit. Here he is in the centre now. Let's look at our

:19:19. > :19:20.

:19:20. > :19:26.winner coming through here. Look at another one of Richard Hannon's

:19:26. > :19:31.horses. Olympic Glory ran a very nice race he's one horse you would

:19:31. > :19:36.definitely look at in future. She running on really strongly. The

:19:36. > :19:42.other Hannon horse is a speed horse. He isn't good enough. My opinion of

:19:42. > :19:47.Dawn Approach is he is a seven- furlong horse. If he gets closer to

:19:48. > :19:53.him he would still find a bit more. This is a horse which possibly will

:19:53. > :20:02.be one of the horses will you be interested in next year's 2000

:20:02. > :20:08.Guineas. Tell everybody the horse you won in this race? I finished

:20:08. > :20:18.third in Generous in this race, many moons ago, but he ended up

:20:18. > :20:22.

:20:22. > :20:26.winning the Derby. And dawn? - and Dawn Approach? Speed A quite

:20:26. > :20:31.possible 2000 Guineas contender. This is the pre-parade range. In an

:20:32. > :20:35.attempt to try and pick a winner I've come to have a little look.

:20:35. > :20:41.This is Paul keen, who did manage to do just that by watching the

:20:41. > :20:49.horses in the Parade Ring. Weished out Dawn Approach in the last race.

:20:49. > :20:54.He was faflt and he did have excellent form, but he -- he was

:20:55. > :21:00.favourite and he did have excellent form. His form in Ireland was rock

:21:00. > :21:07.solid and he looked the part here. A gorgeous colt, stood head and

:21:07. > :21:13.shouldest above the rest of them. You do train horses right? Yes.

:21:13. > :21:18.Pick me a winner for the Ascot Stakes. It's a tricky one because

:21:18. > :21:25.it's a handicap, but being a jumping man and being Irish I would

:21:25. > :21:31.have to go with Simenon. That's my tip. I will take that one. Best of

:21:31. > :21:39.luck. Congratulations on your fortune. It is a special Royal

:21:39. > :21:43.Ascot this year. This is the nod towards Steven Jones, one of the

:21:43. > :21:47.greatest milliners in the world. This looks amazinging girls, have

:21:47. > :21:52.you having a lovely day? We're having a great day. The sun has

:21:52. > :21:59.come out, so we are really enjoying it. There's been a winner, and you

:21:59. > :22:04.are Paul's wife. Can we talk about outfits? Yes, sure. My dress is

:22:05. > :22:12.from Coast. My headpiece is from Helen Cook, a milliner in Ireland.

:22:12. > :22:17.Isn't that your sister? It is. It was great. I have my own milliner

:22:17. > :22:23.on hand to make a hat to match my dress. How lucky are you to have a

:22:23. > :22:28.sister that does that? That's fantastic. It's quite tricky to get

:22:28. > :22:33.the outfit right for something like this. How's your danger going

:22:34. > :22:38.you've got perfect weather. It's been fabulous. My first time at

:22:38. > :22:44.Ascot. The sun's come out. A lovely day. I'm enjoying the lovely food

:22:44. > :22:48.and direction it is wonderful. have celebrity chefs here this week.

:22:48. > :22:53.Mark Sergeant has been working on a lot of the food here. Anyone been

:22:53. > :22:57.here before? I've been here once. We came last year. We came on the

:22:58. > :23:01.Tuesday, so it was the only nice day they last year. We've been

:23:01. > :23:05.lucky again from year. It's brilliant. Don't you think it looks

:23:05. > :23:08.different this year? They've changed it so much, and we are

:23:08. > :23:13.celebrating the Diamond Jubilee. What were your thoughts when you

:23:13. > :23:18.first arrived? It's fantastic. I love the decorations and the flags.

:23:18. > :23:22.It's brilliant. Tell me what you are wearing. A beautiful hat with a

:23:22. > :23:30.lovely flower. The inspiration behind that pick? I did dress six

:23:30. > :23:36.months ago, and I knew it was the Ascot dress. I had my hat made to

:23:36. > :23:40.match the dress, in a town in the Scottish borders, Melrose. It has

:23:40. > :23:45.been a really good day. All we need now is the top tip from Paul to

:23:45. > :23:50.come in, do we not? This is made out of chocolate. I'm just going to

:23:50. > :23:56.bite into it and see if it's real. Hang on a minute.

:23:56. > :24:01.LAUGHTER Look another that! That's good! Beat that.

:24:01. > :24:05.I would if I could, but this is what we get for tea. Seriously.

:24:05. > :24:08.That's all we get. If you have just come in from work and you are

:24:08. > :24:15.wondering what's happened on day one of Royal Ascot, it's been

:24:15. > :24:19.sensational. As the crowds poured in, the sun

:24:19. > :24:23.shone down, the Royal Procession led by Her Majesty the Queen, and a

:24:23. > :24:28.huge crowd that was gathered around the Parade Ring and stayed there to

:24:28. > :24:32.look at Frankel, who was going for win number 11 in a row. And he did

:24:32. > :24:37.not disappoint. He won by 11 lengths. He took the Queen Anne

:24:37. > :24:42.Stakes in style. Henry Cecil celebrating afterwards.

:24:42. > :24:46.A relieved and relaxed man. The King's Stand Stakes, victory went

:24:46. > :24:52.to Hong Kong, Little Bridge. With Zac Purton on board, winning for C

:24:52. > :24:57.S Shum. The St James's Palace Stakes for

:24:57. > :25:03.three-year-olds over a mile. The race was taken by Kieren Fallon on

:25:03. > :25:07.a horse called Most Improved. We've just seen Dawn Approach win the

:25:07. > :25:12.Coventry and looks set for the 2000 Guineas. Certainly a classic

:25:12. > :25:16.contender for next year. Mick, a couple of things about Frankel that

:25:16. > :25:21.you know. Could you share? I spoke to Tom Queally. He said to me, the

:25:21. > :25:26.horse has lost a shoe, so that makes his performance even more

:25:26. > :25:30.impressive. I think Kieren Fallon saw it go early on in the race.

:25:30. > :25:34.That is not helping in terms of the grip on the turf and being able to

:25:34. > :25:39.get into your next stride. If we look at the sectional times the,

:25:39. > :25:44.for the first time, you can see the fastest furlong, we are comparing

:25:44. > :25:47.what Frankel did today on the top line and what he did in the Queen

:25:47. > :25:54.Elizabeth II Stakes last year. The ground today is probably softer

:25:54. > :25:59.than it was then. His fastest furlong, .58 today compared to

:25:59. > :26:04.10.99 last year. That fastest furlong is extraordinary. 10.58 is

:26:04. > :26:10.the sort of time that sprinters do. That's ing. What he did today, I

:26:10. > :26:15.think visually it is as impressive as I have ever seen in a Group 1.

:26:15. > :26:23.This horse has blown away the opposition. Frankie Dettori said it

:26:23. > :26:29.was like watching a a horse gallop off into the dust. He is so much

:26:29. > :26:33.more relaxed now and that allows Tom Queally to not fight him. But

:26:33. > :26:38.when he says go... Look at him! There is no doubt his world rate

:26:38. > :26:43.willing go up after. This What a feeling that must be for Tom

:26:43. > :26:47.Queally. Unbelievable. That's the horse of a lifetime. That's like

:26:47. > :26:52.driving a superpowered car. It is all his. Absolutely. Nobody else is

:26:52. > :27:00.going to get on board, not unless he gets suspended or anything, and

:27:00. > :27:03.he will make sure he doesn't. Next stop is the Sussex Stakes at

:27:03. > :27:08.Goodwood. And there is Tom getting ready for

:27:08. > :27:12.the next race, in which he rides dark dark. One more live race to

:27:12. > :27:22.come on BBC Two and then the Windsor Palace winds on BBC

:27:22. > :27:32.

:27:32. > :27:37.It is Phil Smith of the British Horseracing Authority. We know that

:27:37. > :27:42.Frankel is the best horse in the world but someone has to put flesh

:27:42. > :27:47.on those bonus. Frankel is the leading miler in that category. But

:27:47. > :27:52.today's performance, how highly do you rate it in comparison with the

:27:53. > :27:55.Lockinge Stakes, how highly do you rate today's performance? It is a

:27:56. > :28:01.difficult race to rate unfortunately, because the horse we

:28:01. > :28:06.would have liked to use as our guideline, Excelebration, hasn't

:28:06. > :28:10.done his stuff. He is too close to inferior horses. Frankel to my eyes

:28:10. > :28:14.was the most visually stunning horse I've seen in 40 years of

:28:14. > :28:24.assessing horses. When you come to put a figure on what horses have

:28:24. > :28:28.done you need another horse in thena race to have raced his Best?

:28:28. > :28:31.Yes, and the other horse didn't do that. We've discussed it with some

:28:31. > :28:36.of the international handicappersers we know he is at

:28:36. > :28:39.least 138, but we have a view that visually it looked better than that.

:28:39. > :28:42.It may be that the third, fourth and fifth will come out in future

:28:42. > :28:46.and show that they are better than they are at the moment and we can

:28:46. > :28:50.raise the whole level of the race in future. The best we've had is

:28:50. > :28:54.Dancing Brave on 141. Certainly I'm sure that Frankel is going to get

:28:54. > :29:00.there. Whatever, everything else has a long way to go to catch up

:29:00. > :29:05.with him. We saw the King's Stand Stakes next and that's part of the

:29:05. > :29:10.sprint racing. Bated Breath won the first British champions series

:29:10. > :29:14.sprint, and he was beaten by Little Bridge. Will that automatically

:29:14. > :29:20.place Little Bridge at the end head of affairs? Absolutely. Bated

:29:20. > :29:26.Breath is incredibly had consistent. We rate him 118. He has replicated

:29:26. > :29:29.that on many occasions, so we are happy to have Little Bridge on 120.

:29:29. > :29:34.There is pretty much reasonable agreement on that around the world.

:29:34. > :29:40.So the first race, won by Frankel, he's the best miler. Little Bridge

:29:40. > :29:45.is the best sprirnt and in the champions series, probably the best

:29:45. > :29:50.five furlong sprinter around. The St James's Palace Stakes was won by

:29:50. > :29:54.Most Improved. Does his victory make him the best three yoelled

:29:54. > :30:00.colt mighter around? He's improved but not most improved. We've got

:30:00. > :30:06.him now up to 118. If you look again at the second horse, he was

:30:06. > :30:11.beaten further by Camelot in the past. We can't really have him Gaza

:30:11. > :30:15.as Camelot. Camelot, obviously the Derby winner, is still the best

:30:15. > :30:20.miler around. But when you look at the figures, Little Bridge, 120,

:30:20. > :30:25.Most Improved 118. Frankel 138. That puts the whole thing into

:30:26. > :30:28.perspective. They would be thrashed by him. The next thing is everyone

:30:28. > :30:32.wants Frankel to take on new challengers. He's beaten

:30:32. > :30:38.Excelebration five times. Cham lot is the next horse on the list for

:30:38. > :30:40.Frankel. People are suggesting they might meet over 10 furlongs in

:30:40. > :30:44.Juddmonte International. Ten furlongs, Frankel hasn't been over

:30:44. > :30:50.that distance, but outstanding over a mile. The best in the world. How

:30:50. > :30:55.do you see that panning out according to the figures?

:30:55. > :30:58.trainer knows more about that horse than I do and is confident he would

:30:58. > :31:03.stay. He was much more amenable to restraint. He cruised through the

:31:03. > :31:08.race and sorted them out with a fantastic turn of speed at the end.

:31:08. > :31:12.York is pretty much a stayer's track. He would have to stay the

:31:12. > :31:18.full distance. It is one mile two- and-a-half furlongs that race. I'm

:31:18. > :31:28.more confident now he would be able to rep Kate what he could do over

:31:28. > :31:29.

:31:29. > :31:39.the and mile. He have the Sussex Stakes first. Every time he runs

:31:39. > :31:46.been on Frankel Watch. You have been designated the job of watching

:31:46. > :31:48.Henry Cecil and the horse today. stalked Frankel and Henry Cecil.

:31:48. > :31:54.Fascinating experience watching them at close quarters. Before the

:31:54. > :31:59.race Cecil looked pretty sombre, very anxious. After the race, you

:31:59. > :32:05.could visibly see this huge waegt lifting -- weight lifting off his

:32:05. > :32:11.shoulders and that what we saw today, I think it redefines what we

:32:11. > :32:16.think is possible. Best horse you have seen? By a long mile F we saw

:32:16. > :32:20.the Lockinge. He's doubled that and add a length and it's absolutely

:32:20. > :32:25.hosed up. Incredible to watch. Up there with the very best we have

:32:25. > :32:35.ever seen. We have the rest of week to look forward to. Big one of the

:32:35. > :32:36.

:32:36. > :32:41.week in the Windsor Forest tomorrow. We can't let tkpwu without giving a

:32:41. > :32:50.tip. You could, you could! We will let you have two shots. Ascot

:32:50. > :32:54.Stakes? Fiulin. Pipe family have a great record in the race and even

:32:54. > :32:58.bigger price, Spice Fair, loves to come off a decent gallop and long

:32:58. > :33:03.distance race, race could be set up for him. You heard it here first.

:33:03. > :33:13.Let's check the runners and riders, they're about to leave the paddock.

:33:13. > :33:13.

:33:13. > :34:31.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:34:31. > :34:37.Private Story already on his way Willie Carson and ridden by his

:34:37. > :34:40.grandson, William Carson, Danvilla is her name. Yes, I bred her.

:34:40. > :34:46.have told him just go and win, that's what you have told thoeupl

:34:46. > :34:51.do. The trouble is getting a draw 20, scuppers what you think, you

:34:51. > :34:55.know, off bit of a chance of winning a race but drawn 20...

:34:55. > :35:04.does he do to counteract that? It's on the outside. He has to go across

:35:04. > :35:09.the whole track to get in. How long have you got before the first bend?

:35:09. > :35:13.Ha-ha! Thank you, Clare! A mile! Six furlongs before the first bend,

:35:13. > :35:17.what are you worrying about? Mick, help me out here. Nobody, but

:35:17. > :35:21.nobody is going to give up their spot, are they? Exactly. You have

:35:21. > :35:24.to barge somebody out of the way to get an even better position.

:35:24. > :35:27.don't want to be in a barging match in a long distance race because

:35:27. > :35:32.that's energy expelled and you don't want to do that and don't

:35:33. > :35:37.want to be going around this racecourse wide, you want to be in

:35:37. > :35:40.going the shortest route. I don't think she will be able to do that.

:35:40. > :35:47.But it's a long way around this racecourse. It's two and a half

:35:47. > :35:50.miles. You want to get your horse off the bridle, sitting with your

:35:50. > :35:55.hands resting on the horse's neck and putting pressure on there and

:35:55. > :36:00.getting the horse to do exactly the same thing to relax, and just to

:36:00. > :36:04.open and shut its legs without using any energy. Sweeping right

:36:04. > :36:07.down there to Swinley Bottom, traditionally the softer part of

:36:07. > :36:09.the course because of the way the ground falls, but actually all the

:36:09. > :36:12.jockeys reporting that the ground is riding good, it was officially

:36:12. > :36:17.good to soft, been drying out out all afternoon because of the

:36:17. > :36:20.sunshine and breeze. It's a warm sun. These runners making their way

:36:20. > :36:25.to the start for the Ascot Stakes. A different prospect to the two-

:36:25. > :36:30.year-olds we just saw sprinting. Now we get much older horses, much

:36:30. > :36:35.more physically developed going over two and a half miles. Horses

:36:35. > :36:41.in here that Mick Fitzgerald, you have actually ridden, Sentry Duty.

:36:41. > :36:49.We will talk about in a moment. But that's Elyaadi, over from Ireland.

:36:49. > :36:53.There is a few of these that are... Got very warm this horse in the

:36:53. > :37:03.paddock. I know it's a warm day, like you say, but Wye say that will

:37:03. > :37:29.

:37:29. > :37:36.Henderson, you used to be his stable jockey. He has a great

:37:36. > :37:42.record here, Nicky. Won last year. Sentry Duty, you always looked a

:37:42. > :37:45.big fella on him. I was! He is a small horse. He is, but he is a

:37:45. > :37:48.lovely lad. Kieron Fallon all smiles, relaxed. Sometimes you get

:37:48. > :37:53.a jockey with his confidence high, you can get a chance. Here is a

:37:53. > :37:59.trainer worth following at Royal Ascot, Hughy Morrison trains this

:37:59. > :38:03.horse. Hughy had three runners at last year's Royal Ascot and two won.

:38:03. > :38:07.This horse needs - well he's running in two miles and a half

:38:07. > :38:12.today, but when he is running over the two miles he needs a very

:38:12. > :38:17.strong pace. He needs something to go at. He is a laidback character

:38:17. > :38:22.and he is a big slow, but he just needs a strong pace and something

:38:22. > :38:30.to gallop at, something to aim for. Over two miles and a half he will

:38:30. > :38:35.have plenty to aim at. Daryl Holland rode him last time, so he

:38:36. > :38:43.should know him now. I agree with Clare, Hughy Morrison's horses, you

:38:43. > :38:46.ignore them at your peril at big meetings. Already there, that's

:38:46. > :38:52.Simenon, seems to have improved since going hurdling and has won

:38:52. > :38:55.twice over two miles and third also in a grade one champion in April.

:38:55. > :39:05.That hurdling form, translate that to the flat and Simenon has a big

:39:05. > :39:20.

:39:20. > :39:30.chance and clearly he has improved since he was running on the flat.

:39:30. > :39:30.

:39:30. > :39:35.Some of the jump jockeys have dual licences and can do light light

:39:35. > :39:42.lightweights. There is Ruby, he will be enjoying a day off. He will

:39:42. > :39:48.be enI -- enjoying himself. He has a glow on him now. That's the sun,

:39:48. > :39:51.Willie! Now, this horse in the background, number 11, you will see

:39:51. > :39:54.him when he moves clear. I looked across the paddock and said what's

:39:54. > :39:59.that? It's the first horse all day that I thought was absolute

:39:59. > :40:06.standout in the paddock. He is so strong and so muscular and he is

:40:06. > :40:11.called Al Khawaneej. Won well at Goodwood the last time he ran there.

:40:11. > :40:16.He was a sort of trial race for today and he's obviously a horse,

:40:16. > :40:23.ran twice this year. Won both his races this year. He is huge. He is

:40:23. > :40:28.improving. You can see how much taller he is than Dark Ranger. If

:40:28. > :40:32.he just - here we go, look at him. Now that's a really, really

:40:32. > :40:37.impressive looking horse. Look at the length of the neck on him. Is

:40:37. > :40:40.he a full horse? Good question. Yes, he is. He looks it. You see the

:40:40. > :40:48.crest on his head. You don't normally get full horses running in

:40:48. > :40:58.this sort of race. Which he means he is still a colt. Hasn't been

:40:58. > :41:10.

:41:10. > :41:15.bit of bad luck. He will be hoping he can get off the mark here.

:41:15. > :41:20.This is Dark Ranger, Tom Queally did have the armband on for leading

:41:20. > :41:25.jockey for the week after Frankel and had it - but clearly it's been

:41:25. > :41:30.handed on now to somebody who has had a winner in placed horses.

:41:30. > :41:34.say you should with jumps horses almost add 45lbs to the rating and

:41:34. > :41:40.get what they should be over hurdles. If that's the case this

:41:40. > :41:44.horse has a little to find. He is fancied when he ran at Cheltenham.

:41:44. > :41:48.Just disappointed a little bit. that true about putting 45 on?

:41:48. > :41:51.That's the figure? Roughly. Let's look at the market and see if it's

:41:51. > :42:01.giving us clues for this. Here is John.

:42:01. > :42:17.

:42:17. > :42:27.into the stalls but we must give him - her a mention, she won this

:42:27. > :42:27.

:42:27. > :42:33.race race last year and is - Nicky Henderson has had wins here. Eddie

:42:33. > :42:38.Ahern has a good partnership with Nicky Henderson. Nicky's record on

:42:38. > :42:42.the flat, his percentages is very high indeed. Look out for Veiled,

:42:42. > :42:52.out of stall 17. Drawn on the outside, as is Willie's horse,

:42:52. > :43:06.

:43:06. > :43:10.Danvilla, out of 20. Just a couple Two-and-a-half miles the trip. They

:43:10. > :43:19.are just about ready for the Ascot Stakes. Al Khawaneej is going to be

:43:19. > :43:24.the last to be loaded. And they are set. Ready to go.

:43:24. > :43:28.And they are racing. Danvilla on the outside was awkwardly away.

:43:28. > :43:32.Scots Gaelic was one of the first to get going. Cosimo De Medici at

:43:32. > :43:36.the rear of the field crossing towards the inside, just preceded

:43:36. > :43:41.by Danvilla. In the early stages. They run up the home strait. The

:43:41. > :43:48.leader is Private Story on the far side. Joined now the outsider Call

:43:48. > :43:53.It On. Just behind them with the red arm it is is Becausewecan. They

:43:53. > :43:58.are nicely clear of Western Pearl, who is tucked against the rail.

:43:58. > :44:02.Then follows Twin Soul. Trying to get some cor. Then Scots Gaelic as

:44:02. > :44:07.they travel up the straight the first time. In the centre is

:44:07. > :44:11.Simenon. Tusked on the inside is Fiulin. They are a length ahead of

:44:12. > :44:18.Elyaadi. A length back to Ashbrittle. One length to Veiled,

:44:18. > :44:22.trapped on the outside of Tuscan Gold. They are followed a length

:44:22. > :44:27.away by Veiled, who is still wide, from Monterey. A length-and-a-half

:44:27. > :44:32.as they pass the two-mile marker. On the inside Al Khawaneej, a

:44:32. > :44:41.length to Dark Ranger, with Sentry Duty. Two lengths away is Spice

:44:41. > :44:45.Fair, and three lengths to Cosimo De Medici. A complete circuit ahead

:44:45. > :44:49.of them in the Ascot Stakes. The leader is the rank outsider Call It

:44:49. > :44:54.On by two lengths, to Private Story. Tucked away Western Pearl in third.

:44:54. > :44:58.Three parts to Becausewecan. A length further back is Fiulin,

:44:58. > :45:03.followed by Twin Soul. The pace is good as they pass the jfplt they've

:45:03. > :45:08.got just over a mile and five furlongs to go. Simenon is next,

:45:08. > :45:12.followed by Ashbrittle, and further back Elyaadi. Travelling on the

:45:12. > :45:16.inside of Scots Gaelic. A length to Veiled, followed by Tuscan Gold. A

:45:16. > :45:20.length further back is Danvilla on the inside of Al Khawaneej. Being

:45:20. > :45:23.passed by Nafaath on the outside. Monterey is further back. Half a

:45:23. > :45:28.length further back is Dark Ranger, who is about fourth last at this

:45:28. > :45:33.stage from Sentry Duty. Then out the back as they travel down the

:45:33. > :45:39.side is Spice Fair, who is second last. They head down the side.

:45:39. > :45:42.Cosimo De Medici trails the field of 20. As they charge down now

:45:42. > :45:47.towards the mile and three furlong Angela Merkel the leader on the

:45:47. > :45:51.inside is still Call It On. Leads by a length to up on the outside in

:45:51. > :45:55.second Private Story. Tucked away is Western Pearl. Half a length

:45:55. > :45:59.Becausewecan, two lengths away then is Twin Soul, with the gold cap. On

:45:59. > :46:04.the outside of Fiulin. They are fofuled by Scots Gaelic on the

:46:04. > :46:09.outside of Simenon. A length to Elyaadi. Followed in the centre by

:46:09. > :46:13.Ashbrittle, then still trapped wide is Veiled. Even wider is Dark

:46:13. > :46:19.Ranger. Elyaadi smothered on the fence. A length away is Veiled,

:46:19. > :46:23.followed by Tuscan Gold. Followed by Nafaath, and then Al Khawaneej.

:46:23. > :46:27.Sentry Duty, Monterey on the inside followed by Spice Fair and Cosimo

:46:27. > :46:31.De Medici. Coming out of Swinley Bottom, six-and-a-half furlongs to

:46:31. > :46:37.travel in the Ascot Stakes. It is still Call It On leading bay length

:46:37. > :46:41.to in second Private Story. Another light blue behind them is Western

:46:41. > :46:45.Pearl, followed by Becausewecan. Dark Ranger has made good ground. A

:46:45. > :46:49.length further back is Twin Soul, followed by Veiled, who has ma the

:46:49. > :46:52.made good ground. Simenon is tucked away but needs a run from

:46:52. > :46:57.Ashbrittle. They are followed by Nafaath. Wide from Scots Gaelic and

:46:57. > :47:02.then Tuscan Gold. Elyaadi on the fence and further back then as

:47:02. > :47:06.think come towards the turn is Al Khawaneej, with Sentry Duty. Out

:47:06. > :47:11.the back is Spice Fair. They round the corner from Monterey and Cosimo

:47:11. > :47:14.De Medici. They turn for home. Just over three furlongs to travel. The

:47:14. > :47:18.leader on the inside is still Call It On bay length-and-a-half. Here

:47:18. > :47:21.come the challengers. Western Pearl races out after the leader. Private

:47:21. > :47:26.Story down the outside from Becausewecan and Dark Ranger.

:47:26. > :47:29.Behind them is Twin Soul, followed by Veiled. Now Simenon gets the run

:47:29. > :47:34.in the centre and finishing well. Nafaath down the outside with Al

:47:34. > :47:39.Khawaneej. On the far side is Call It On, but here's Simenon! Less

:47:39. > :47:43.loose by Mayan moor. Grabs the lead with a foong left to go and careers

:47:43. > :47:48.away. Al Khawaneej has come from the ruck and after the leader, but

:47:49. > :47:53.Simenon kept going and Simenon is going to street them. Simenon wins

:47:53. > :47:58.it well from in second Al Khawaneej.. Third is Nafaath

:47:58. > :48:01.followed by a tight fourth between Scots Gaelic and Western Pearl,

:48:01. > :48:05.followed by Spice Fair. Further back is Becausewecan from Dark

:48:05. > :48:09.Ranger. They are followed by Veiled and then Call It On, who is well

:48:09. > :48:12.back with Ashbrittle. Monterey, then Fiulin. Towards the rear is

:48:12. > :48:19.Private Story. Sentry Duty, Cosimo De Medici and Danvilla. There is

:48:19. > :48:25.the winner, an 8-1 winner for Ryan Moore. Simenon, number 2, trained

:48:25. > :48:31.by Willie Mullins. Second is number 11, Al Khawaneej,

:48:31. > :48:36.ridden by Jamie experience. Third is 13, Nafaath. It is tight

:48:37. > :48:42.for fourth. Simenon has streeted them. He's won by five or six.

:48:42. > :48:47.Second Al Khawaneej. No doubt Nafaath third. A tight fourth.

:48:47. > :48:51.Western Pearl on the far side, Scots Gaelic nearside. Spice Fair

:48:51. > :48:56.behind them. Then Becausewecan. Then Ashbrittle and then Dark

:48:56. > :48:59.Ranger. And they were clear then some way behind them is Twin Soul.

:49:00. > :49:04.Also Tuscan Gold, as they cross the Also Tuscan Gold, as they cross the

:49:04. > :49:08.line. That's Monterey down the bottom of the screen. The

:49:08. > :49:13.stragglers are a long way behind. Well beaten indeed. But no doubt,

:49:13. > :49:18.as soon as at the got the run, Ryan Moore on Simenon, it was all over

:49:18. > :49:26.in the twinkling of an eye. Number 2, Simenon has got the money in the

:49:26. > :49:31.colours of Wicklow Bloodstock Limited. This gelding. Ryan Moore,

:49:31. > :49:37.Hawaafez a good book of rides throughout the whole meeting. The

:49:38. > :49:43.current leader in the jockey standings. That will give him 58

:49:43. > :49:47.winners for the season. He is well clear of his nearest rival.

:49:47. > :49:51.For Ryan Moore this is a regular occurrence, coming into the

:49:51. > :49:59.winner's enclosure at Royal Ascot. He's been top jockey here for three

:49:59. > :50:04.years. But for Willie Mullins, the winning trainer, who has had so

:50:04. > :50:09.much success, this is a first. Indeed a first. He isn't sure where

:50:09. > :50:15.the winner's enclosure is. haven't been here before. I think

:50:15. > :50:21.we had a few photo finishes here. It is just to the right here. First

:50:21. > :50:27.of all we are normally seeing new the winner's enclosure at

:50:27. > :50:33.Cheltenham and Aintree. I thought the o enwas good when C S Shum had

:50:33. > :50:39.a winner here from Hong Kong. He work Ford my father in 1958 I think.

:50:39. > :50:43.This horse has improved. I think he's settled. The hurdles have made

:50:43. > :50:48.him settle. That's been a big help. I said to Ryan, if you, settle him

:50:48. > :50:52.on the rails and ride your own race after that. Ryan was still

:50:52. > :50:56.travelling as everything was quickening up. I hope they were

:50:56. > :51:01.going fast enough that they weren't just going to run away from him. At

:51:01. > :51:05.that stage he had trouble getting him out, but after that he was fine.

:51:05. > :51:11.Any plans for him over the obstacles? The main plan here is

:51:11. > :51:16.mainly next Saturday. I might leave him here. We've got him in the

:51:16. > :51:21.Queen Alexandra. We haven't got any plans over jumps for him. We

:51:21. > :51:30.brought testimony Cheltenham and I thought he might win but he came

:51:30. > :51:35.last. I thought he didn't travel well. The trainer says he settled a

:51:35. > :51:41.lot better and he drank a lot of water. He's done a fantastic job.

:51:41. > :51:47.Willie, well done. Thank you. Ryan Moore making his way in front

:51:47. > :51:53.of the crowd. He will have been well supported, Simenon, as would

:51:53. > :52:01.have been Al Khawaneej. Nafaath took third and Scots Gaelic

:52:01. > :52:08.took came fourth. One more race to come, but it is on the Red Button

:52:08. > :52:16.on BBCi. That's after we come off air. A smile from Ryan.

:52:16. > :52:21.That doesn't happen too often. was good effort. After two-and-a-

:52:21. > :52:28.half miles, pretty hard work for a jockey, so I think he can enjoy the

:52:28. > :52:38.moment. We continue on BBCi on the Red Button. That's our last race

:52:38. > :53:00.

:53:01. > :53:05.We were watching one horse and one horse only. He has lit up Royal

:53:05. > :53:15.Ascot. Frankel. The best performance we've ever seen at this

:53:15. > :53:50.
