:00:41. > :00:47.Welcome to the stadium at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the
:00:48. > :00:55.second test between England and New Zealand. One of the sport's biggest
:00:56. > :01:02.fans, Colin Welland, who passed away this week said Rugby League provides
:01:03. > :01:07.a cultural adrenaline. It is a physical manifestation of our rules
:01:08. > :01:08.of life. Comradeship, honest endeavour, and an allegiance to
:01:09. > :01:50.Fairplay. Welcome back. MUSIC: "Have Yourself A Merry Little
:01:51. > :02:18.Christmas" An early Christmas present. We will
:02:19. > :02:25.talk about the game in a moment but we will talk about Sam Burgess first
:02:26. > :02:31.of all. Did you get goose bumps watching that? Yes. It is exciting
:02:32. > :02:36.for the game. He is a genuine superstar and to get him back in
:02:37. > :02:40.Rugby League is very good. One of my pet hates is wasting talent and I
:02:41. > :02:46.think he is back in the game that will allow him to maximise his
:02:47. > :02:52.potential. The only thing is he needs to get his 80s perm here do.
:02:53. > :02:57.Has he wasted his talent? Rugby League is a difficult game for his
:02:58. > :03:02.talent to shine. He needs to have the ball in his hands 20 times a
:03:03. > :03:07.game. Rugby League is a better sport to allow him to do that. You talk to
:03:08. > :03:13.him a lot. How difficult has he found the last few weeks? Any big
:03:14. > :03:17.decision would be difficult but he has made the right decision for him
:03:18. > :03:24.and his family. I heard rumours from all sorts of corners. There has been
:03:25. > :03:28.a lot of hysteria. He is back in the game that reveres him, that loves
:03:29. > :03:34.him, that wanting to do well. The courts are very different and it
:03:35. > :03:41.would have taken time to get up to speed -- the sports. Was he given
:03:42. > :03:47.enough time? You have a foot in rugby union and Rugby League. What
:03:48. > :03:55.is your overriding emotion? I care for both games, believe it or not.
:03:56. > :04:03.There are a minority who want people to feel. A lot of the people don't
:04:04. > :04:08.know much about what is going on in that position. For me, it has been a
:04:09. > :04:14.shambles and I'm very sad, everybody has been writing about it. If they
:04:15. > :04:18.did not think he was right to play, that was their decision. I went back
:04:19. > :04:22.to rugby union after seven years in Rugby League and I did not think I
:04:23. > :04:28.was good enough but yet I played for Wales, I would have not turned that
:04:29. > :04:37.down. For me, the balance, the selection was wrong. When Sam was on
:04:38. > :04:41.the field for England they were winning. If he had stayed on they
:04:42. > :04:48.would have won. A lot has been written about it and a lot of
:04:49. > :04:52.rubbish. What is disappointing for all of us is he has not made the
:04:53. > :05:00.stellar impact we thought he would but that takes time. I believe, I
:05:01. > :05:05.wanted England to win the Rugby Union World Cup, I wanted everybody
:05:06. > :05:11.to do well. The scapegoat attitude from some quarters has been
:05:12. > :05:18.embarrassing, we all want to do well in English sport and get over the
:05:19. > :05:29.line. The fact he has made this decision now is a good decision. I
:05:30. > :05:37.did not have a choice to go back. If I did not make it then I was gone, I
:05:38. > :05:41.was history. You pick Sam to do a job. His job is to get over that
:05:42. > :05:48.gain line. You pick him in a position where he plays for his
:05:49. > :05:53.club, with Jonathan Joseph at 13. What happens, the selection goes
:05:54. > :06:03.wrong, when I went to Rugby League, they knew what job I needed to do. I
:06:04. > :06:08.knew my role. It is not his fault. England have just come out to warm
:06:09. > :06:15.up find us. Hopefully next year we will be seeing others in an England
:06:16. > :06:21.shirt. If we want this sport to grow and more people to watch about it --
:06:22. > :06:27.watch it and have more articles in the paper, does Rugby League suffer
:06:28. > :06:34.through Sam Burgess deciding to leave after a short period of time?
:06:35. > :06:39.I don't think you can replace that responsibility on his shoulders.
:06:40. > :06:45.There are a number of reasons why he has not had success but that is not
:06:46. > :06:49.one of them. All the people Colin him a quitter, saying he has gone
:06:50. > :06:55.back early, they don't even know him. If you look at his story, he is
:06:56. > :07:01.not a quitter, he is a great bloke. What he's done is he has said, I am
:07:02. > :07:08.Robert I will put my faith in the coaches and the people who have
:07:09. > :07:18.signed me and put me in the right areas and that has not worked. Sam
:07:19. > :07:25.wanted to be the world's best, he wanted to come to rugby union. To
:07:26. > :07:29.me, the backdrop to all this is something that makes him recognise,
:07:30. > :07:35.I might be better off back in Australia, I might be better off
:07:36. > :07:46.back in my own game. Let me read you a quote. He says, I say good
:07:47. > :07:58.riddance, there is a decent, honourable England coach, he decided
:07:59. > :08:04.he might fancy a crack at rugby union but then did not fancy it at
:08:05. > :08:10.all. I don't agree with that, ultimately it is Stuart Lancaster's
:08:11. > :08:13.job, and his neck is on the block. If he does not think a player is
:08:14. > :08:19.good enough he does not pick him. Kyle Eastmond comes from Rugby
:08:20. > :08:24.League. The balance and selection was wrong. Sam Burgess came to this
:08:25. > :08:30.rugby to play for England in the World Cup. If they thought he was
:08:31. > :08:35.ready then they picked him. If they did not think he was ready then they
:08:36. > :08:47.do not pick him. Stuart Lancaster is a decent bloke. If you had switched
:08:48. > :08:53.codes after a year do you think you would be ready to play International
:08:54. > :09:00.Rugby Board and, and if you did not feel ready would you say it? I would
:09:01. > :09:10.not have been ready, I don't have the talent he has. What this has
:09:11. > :09:13.shown us is even though I have met people with great values there is an
:09:14. > :09:17.element of snobbery that comes through that game, and you can tell
:09:18. > :09:27.from that article, they look down on the sport of Rugby League. You wrote
:09:28. > :09:30.your eyes at me, so go on. I get it. Rugby League fans think I am not a
:09:31. > :09:34.Rugby League player because I was born and bred in Wales, I played
:09:35. > :09:41.union and I worked on the union game. When he came into Rugby
:09:42. > :09:45.League, we wanted to kill him because they had taken all our money
:09:46. > :09:51.and livelihoods and we spent every day of the week thinking, we are
:09:52. > :09:57.playing against this... Were you jealous? Not jealous, it was a crazy
:09:58. > :10:05.element of, we want him to fail because he is not that good. But he
:10:06. > :10:12.was that good. All the players would have wanted Santa be a success. --
:10:13. > :10:20.would have wanted Sam Burgess to be a success. That was not his fault.
:10:21. > :10:26.You don't think there was any envy? I would be disappointed if there
:10:27. > :10:33.were rugby union players who did not want him to succeed. Ultimately I
:10:34. > :10:38.would hope they would want him to be successful and raise the profile of
:10:39. > :10:52.the game, as he would have done for rugby union. They have moulded him
:10:53. > :10:58.and he does a job for New Zealand. You become revered after that.
:10:59. > :11:05.Becomes revered and accepted. Sam Burgess had the talent to be that
:11:06. > :11:11.revered. It would not surprise me if he went through to the 2017 World
:11:12. > :11:17.Cup and tried to come back for the rugby union World Cup to prove
:11:18. > :11:25.people wrong. You can get in touch because this will obviously be a
:11:26. > :11:28.huge part of the forum later on. We are talking to Steve McNamara
:11:29. > :11:33.earlier and he said he has had a conversation with Sam Burgess this
:11:34. > :11:38.morning. He said it is the first time he has spoken to him. He will
:11:39. > :11:42.not be back for this series. Getting away from the controversy and from
:11:43. > :12:01.the sport that we cover, it is exciting for this England team. I am
:12:02. > :12:04.really excited about the four nations next year and the prospect
:12:05. > :12:18.in the World Cup the next year after that. A quick word of where we are.
:12:19. > :12:21.We will focus on the match now. Jonathan and Brian will be part of
:12:22. > :12:26.the commentary team. Jamie will be with me as well. If you cannot play
:12:27. > :12:31.well in a stadium like this then you cannot play well anywhere. You would
:12:32. > :12:35.thrive on this, wouldn't you? Absolutely. I played 12 years for my
:12:36. > :12:43.country and never got to play in a stadium like this. They are going to
:12:44. > :12:49.twitch today coming in here. You have had to twitch today coming in
:12:50. > :12:54.here. You have had when I came to Rugby League I played in Anfield,
:12:55. > :12:59.Old Trafford, Wembley. These are the stadium is that when you grow up as
:13:00. > :13:09.a kid, irrespective of the sport, you want to play in these venues.
:13:10. > :13:27.Thank you. We will get underway at 2:30pm.
:13:28. > :13:38.Suddenly a chance to run for the line, and score!
:13:39. > :14:08.Those England players will be arriving at the Queen Elizabeth
:14:09. > :14:11.Olympic Park, buoyed by that second-half performance. Fans will
:14:12. > :14:19.be arriving hoping that England can go 2-0 up. They need to win today to
:14:20. > :14:30.level at before we head to Wigan next Saturday. It is the same
:14:31. > :14:36.starting 13 and the same bench for England. New Zealand are a little
:14:37. > :14:44.more interesting. We were not expecting the same starting 13 for
:14:45. > :14:55.them. They have added a bit of experience to the bench. That is the
:14:56. > :14:59.England players going on with their warm up routine. We will find out
:15:00. > :15:05.how they will play this afternoon. For 30 minutes last week it was a
:15:06. > :15:13.bit of arrest, New Zealand were getting on and then Steve McNamara
:15:14. > :15:18.played the super substitute. Came off the bench and scored two Mac
:15:19. > :15:22.tries. I want to focus on two players. One of them is Tom Burgess.
:15:23. > :15:29.He is a man mountain. When he carried the ball he is a man
:15:30. > :15:34.mountain. Another player to look at, coming to the other side of the
:15:35. > :15:38.play, James Roby. He is an 80 minute player but they've got him coming
:15:39. > :15:41.off the bench. That means he has got a little bit more energy. That means
:15:42. > :15:47.they can do the exciting things really well, leave people in bits
:15:48. > :15:52.and pieces. Just going to see whether I can get a quick word with
:15:53. > :15:55.Sean O'Loughlin. Today has been a big competition for you guys to see
:15:56. > :16:00.if you can seal of the series against New Zealand. We had a good
:16:01. > :16:09.start last week. Got the series off to a good start. Both teams
:16:10. > :16:18.improving today. Does it make sense for you to go with the same 17? Just
:16:19. > :16:24.about. I would like to have seen Ben Webster fit into these. He treads
:16:25. > :16:41.that line nice and thinly along there. Let's go to John Wilkins. How
:16:42. > :16:47.are they going to play today? I think they played fantastically well
:16:48. > :16:57.in the middle of the field. All the big men in this side have got a lot
:16:58. > :17:02.to do. Looking to stop the likes of James Graham, Chris Hill, who got
:17:03. > :17:10.that England team going. A couple of really important guys for this New
:17:11. > :17:19.Zealand side. Issac Luke, a powerful guy. But this guy here today, a
:17:20. > :17:24.young guy coming into the team. There is a lot of pressure on this
:17:25. > :17:28.young man. He needs to control this side, give them leadership, game
:17:29. > :17:35.management, but kick the ball and take pressure. A big favour this man
:17:36. > :17:44.and the big day for New Zealand. Thank you very much. They have been
:17:45. > :17:51.taking in the sights of the city courtesy of their guide, New
:17:52. > :17:55.Zealand. Ahead of the must win second test, they are taking some
:17:56. > :18:03.time out to see the sights of London. You've got one of the most
:18:04. > :18:11.interesting hairstyles in Rugby League, how long have you been
:18:12. > :18:18.growing that? Since I was about 16. As the captain, had you got your own
:18:19. > :18:42.sweet? I do! Who is the worst to list you've got? It would be Jordan
:18:43. > :18:47.Kahu, he has got the selfie stick. Are you enjoying looking at the
:18:48. > :18:55.sights of London? Myself, I don't normally leave my room. You would
:18:56. > :18:59.have been a young teenager watching some of these guys play. Now you've
:19:00. > :19:16.got to come in and direct them around. I used to be quiet but the
:19:17. > :19:22.boys have made me feel welcome. A lot of talk has been made about the
:19:23. > :19:30.England bench. Is that something you guys are highlighting? Maybe we
:19:31. > :19:36.lacked it a little bit but credit to them, they came on and played some
:19:37. > :19:42.good rugby. No excuses, obviously this is a must win game for us. We
:19:43. > :19:45.know the game plan now and we just need to knuckle down this week and
:19:46. > :20:05.nail it on Saturday. Just dropped the lads off, next
:20:06. > :20:19.stop, the Olympic Stadium. If you believe he actually drove that bus
:20:20. > :20:23.off, you will believe anything. If we look at New Zealand, did they
:20:24. > :20:32.look a little bit undercooked last week? They had a good game under the
:20:33. > :20:40.belt but they did not show enough urgency. That is game management.
:20:41. > :20:51.That allowed England to play exceptionally well. A lot of that
:20:52. > :20:56.manages to... You look at this, you have got guys coming back onside.
:20:57. > :21:01.The reason you would do that with urgency is to get some shape. They
:21:02. > :21:06.did not do that. A lot of people on the wrong side of the ball. This is
:21:07. > :21:10.New Zealand chasing the ball, they needed to create opportunities and
:21:11. > :21:14.this is a prime example. You needed to throw a blanket over this team.
:21:15. > :21:21.If I am in the England team I am thinking, let's be aggressive and
:21:22. > :21:30.thwart them. You can see that there is very little options, and that
:21:31. > :21:40.allows England to really press. Is it mental fatigue? Physical fatigue?
:21:41. > :21:48.I think it is physical. What we saw, they were chasing the game.
:21:49. > :22:00.What that does, it draws the energy out, the structure falls apart, it
:22:01. > :22:03.does not happen. He is tired, he loses his tackle technique, then it
:22:04. > :22:17.is a penalty. What are you doing again? It is a vicious cycle. Those
:22:18. > :22:22.are the problems. Those were lacking in New Zealand. If one of those bits
:22:23. > :22:27.fall down, it gets into a vicious cycle. I think we need to give
:22:28. > :22:31.England credit because they absolutely nailed all three of those
:22:32. > :22:35.in the second half. They were very disciplined, I don't think they gave
:22:36. > :22:42.away a penalty, many errors, the game management was superb. We don't
:22:43. > :22:50.have an Ingush referee, that will change things. There is a slight
:22:51. > :22:54.difference. -- English referee. The word has been coming out of the New
:22:55. > :23:00.Zealand camp that they were not used to having only one referee. Normally
:23:01. > :23:07.they have two referees. I think you will find, New Zealand are going to
:23:08. > :23:14.throw numbers into defence and test this one referee. I'm not going to
:23:15. > :23:17.let you say anymore because, much as I could listen to you talk all
:23:18. > :23:23.afternoon I want to hear from both coaches. You have changed your
:23:24. > :23:33.half-backs pairing, what is the thinking behind that? With this week
:23:34. > :23:40.I thought it was a benefit for us, I just thought by the end of the week,
:23:41. > :23:43.he would be a better fit for us. You stuck with the same 13, you must be
:23:44. > :23:48.pleased with what they did last week. I think we are all aware that
:23:49. > :23:51.there are areas for improvement and when you know there are areas for
:23:52. > :23:57.improvement you've got everything, your team, your bench, you're
:23:58. > :24:01.practising. We have decided to go with the same 17 that started last
:24:02. > :24:07.week. What are the areas you have been looking at? We never got a grip
:24:08. > :24:13.on the game from the beginning, we put ourselves on the back foot,
:24:14. > :24:19.credit to us, we found a way back but would not want to do that again
:24:20. > :24:23.this week. No second chances after today. If you lose this, the Test
:24:24. > :24:28.series has gone. Has that changed the mindset? From our point of view
:24:29. > :24:31.it is always about taking the best performance to the stadium, that is
:24:32. > :24:38.the challenge and the full quiz for us today. We will deal with the
:24:39. > :24:45.results after that. -- the focus. We feel we can give ourselves a good
:24:46. > :24:49.chance today. Has there been an element of keeping feet on the
:24:50. > :24:53.ground? They understand exactly what a tough game it was last week. Six
:24:54. > :25:04.days later we got to go again, we got to be very good to win this
:25:05. > :25:11.game. The big men got a lot of credit last week. They were very
:25:12. > :25:15.smart. It allowed them to continue the late drive and make
:25:16. > :25:23.opportunities. You see here, he carries the ball. Look at the
:25:24. > :25:34.shape. Subtle difference between the sides. That was my position. It is
:25:35. > :25:42.down to the work at the back. England have that in abundance.
:25:43. > :25:50.Those guys relied on support play. Reload is quickly. Should not be
:25:51. > :25:59.scoring this try. Make no mistake. That is bad defence.
:26:00. > :26:13.That is the key area they need to sort out. They need to retain the
:26:14. > :26:19.ball. It is a mindset, you are never as tired as you think you are. You
:26:20. > :26:25.can show that urgency to get back. If they don't get that right it is
:26:26. > :26:31.all over. They need to show that mindset. You can talk yourself into
:26:32. > :26:40.being tired in big games. Energy is infectious. The atmosphere will be
:26:41. > :26:53.infectious here. That man has been cheerleading the crowd. He took off
:26:54. > :26:59.his England Rugby League shirt. It is coming. Another T-shirt
:27:00. > :27:10.underneath. We all breathe a sigh of relief. The crowd will be getting
:27:11. > :27:17.behind both sets of teams. Credit to Steve McNamara for knowing where to
:27:18. > :27:20.make the interchange. In the first half that might have been forced by
:27:21. > :27:23.the lack of intensity but you've got to give him credit for his half-time
:27:24. > :27:40.team talk because they looked different in the second half. I
:27:41. > :27:51.thought James Roby was exceptional. I think it was a smart move. Stephen
:27:52. > :27:56.Tierney knows what Kodi Nikorima can offer. What New Zealand lacked last
:27:57. > :28:09.week was a kicking game and I think he might be the answer to that. Do
:28:10. > :28:17.you expect a different mentality? They showed their dominance this
:28:18. > :28:22.year. I tell you what, they got run ragged last week. What they will be
:28:23. > :28:34.looking to do is prove that they can play a full 80 minutes. I think they
:28:35. > :28:40.will be confrontational. England forwards need to start better. One
:28:41. > :28:44.of the issues with that comes you've got Tom Burgess, he has got no fear.
:28:45. > :28:51.He will run over the top of anything.
:28:52. > :29:00.I thought the game management was pure last week. -- bad last week.
:29:01. > :29:06.The game management, they front-loaded all their energy into
:29:07. > :29:13.getting in chasing, and the England side got off to a great start. The
:29:14. > :29:17.start is so important. International rugby, it is difficult to come back.
:29:18. > :29:27.England did that and finished very strongly. This is a big day for
:29:28. > :29:33.England. This is a moment to seize the day. This could allow them to
:29:34. > :29:38.win a series of the first time since 2007. I am feeling really lonely
:29:39. > :29:46.next to these two because obviously I want New Zealand to win. I hate to
:29:47. > :29:57.break it to you but I am not neutral either. Here come the teams.
:29:58. > :30:11.Please welcome New Zealand and England.
:30:12. > :30:23.As the teams come out, somewhere through the smoke and the fireworks,
:30:24. > :30:30.delivering the match ball is a member of the city of the Regiment,
:30:31. > :30:38.a single leg amputee who was injured during his second tour of Janus
:30:39. > :30:43.than, serving in the Army bomb disposal team. -- second tour of
:30:44. > :30:47.Afghanistan. Here she comes, Stewart Gemmill.

:38:35. > :38:42.stadium at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Bryan Noble, Jonathan
:38:43. > :38:44.Davies and Dave Woods. COMMENTATOR: Wonderful reflection in
:38:45. > :38:50.that minute's silence for those fallen heroes who have saved Britain
:38:51. > :38:57.and the Commonwealth. Also the rugby league referee Chris Leva Barra who
:38:58. > :39:04.sadly passed away this week, and his daughter, at the tragically young
:39:05. > :39:17.age of 27. Also Gary Carter, a Sun newspaper reporter in hospital this
:39:18. > :39:26.week in a coma. A tragic accident. We are willing him to get better.
:39:27. > :40:20.Nose shortage of pomp and ceremony, and emotion in the build-up of these
:40:21. > :40:24.two tests. -- no shortage. The game at Hull came with its light show,
:40:25. > :40:29.today reflection. It should be a terrific game today. Exactly the
:40:30. > :40:37.same for England as one week ago, no temptation to tinker from Steve
:40:38. > :40:44.McNamara. Look at the England bench, some real impact to come off there.
:40:45. > :40:53.A couple of tries last week from them. Late change for New Zealand.
:40:54. > :40:59.Kodi Nikorima coming in. His first start in international. Lewis Brown
:41:00. > :41:05.and Alex Glenn give the Kiwis extra experience on the bench. Change of
:41:06. > :41:09.referee, the Australian Gerard sat and the man in the middle today. We
:41:10. > :41:16.will see what different interpretation he puts on what
:41:17. > :41:19.should be a super game. A venue that has given British sport lots special
:41:20. > :41:26.memories over the last couple of years. The English rugby league team
:41:27. > :41:30.looking to join that we have what would be a series winning victory
:41:31. > :41:37.today. The Kiwis get the first touch of the ball. The first Ryback, met
:41:38. > :41:45.by that voracious English pack. All about the start for the English. We
:41:46. > :41:52.will see how physical they can be with the defensive line. They
:41:53. > :41:58.started slowly last week. They all realise that, that is why they went
:41:59. > :42:02.behind. A very impressive start is what we are looking for. As you
:42:03. > :42:16.said, the bench made a hell of an impact last week. That is what they
:42:17. > :42:20.will be looking for this week. Kodi Nikorima, he had Jon Wilkin 's in
:42:21. > :42:25.the warm up telling him how much pressure he would be under.
:42:26. > :42:31.Immediately England lining up to bring it three. Ryan Hall. The Kiwis
:42:32. > :42:36.will make the start of this game physical. Issac Luke kicking
:42:37. > :42:40.brilliantly out of dummy half to give the full with the chance to
:42:41. > :42:47.chase and show their physical play. It is important where England play
:42:48. > :42:51.the game. Cannot see the Kiwis changing their style with the
:42:52. > :42:58.off-load, the errors in the Kiwi half will be key. Midway inside
:42:59. > :43:07.their own half. Hodgson is away at dummy half. James Graham lingering
:43:08. > :43:12.alongside. Hardaker. Williams gets the kick away. This will fall into
:43:13. > :43:19.English hands. Still the sixth tackle. No Kiwi touch. Very
:43:20. > :43:27.intelligent kick. Little kick off does not bounce the English way. If
:43:28. > :43:33.he could have kicked about into in goal, there was a chance. Creating
:43:34. > :43:39.nothing from the bouncing ball. Whitehead gets it back, especially
:43:40. > :43:44.to kick, it was on. Good vision. Nowhere else to go, lovely kick. He
:43:45. > :43:52.could have caught that, more time than he realised. You two guys are
:43:53. > :43:57.investing more time and space than he had. He did well to get anything
:43:58. > :44:01.on the ball. Penalty New Zealand. Chance for them to settle their
:44:02. > :44:11.nerves. All or nothing as far as the Kiwis are concerned. They lose, it
:44:12. > :44:17.is series over. There is Luke, putting it out of play. Restarting
:44:18. > :44:25.on the halfway line. The first drive by Kevin Proctor. Now Issac Luke
:44:26. > :44:30.multiply quickly. The rain has stopped, by the way. Horrendous
:44:31. > :44:35.morning in London. The rain hammering down, the wind howling. It
:44:36. > :44:44.has settled for the kick-off of the match. Off-loaded temps. Harris was
:44:45. > :44:52.waiting, did not come his way. -- off-load attempted. It is the fourth
:44:53. > :44:56.tackle. Remember they made a fast start last week, the Kiwis. Looking
:44:57. > :45:07.for something similar here. Pushing and pushing. Moa held up, not the
:45:08. > :45:11.best pass from Blair. Hardaker taking no chances, putting it away
:45:12. > :45:18.for a drop out underneath the sticks. The start New Zealand
:45:19. > :45:24.wanted, good build-up, the kick batted away. Hardaker had to
:45:25. > :45:33.play-the-ball. Six more plays for the New Zealanders. I know the Kiwis
:45:34. > :45:39.got the ball from a penalty, discipline will be crucial today.
:45:40. > :45:44.The atmosphere will be interesting. It lacked a little bit at Hull last
:45:45. > :45:49.week. Again today, not on fire at the moment. Needs England to make a
:45:50. > :45:59.strong start to get this majority English crowd into their voices. New
:46:00. > :46:04.Zealand have camp at the moment. Luke swiftly moving it left. Jesse
:46:05. > :46:14.Bromwich that the head down, driving forward. Into England. Moa has
:46:15. > :46:20.missed. That was very well read. Brilliant from Kallum Watkins. Still
:46:21. > :46:31.a position to work from for the Kiwis. Luke is standing in waiting
:46:32. > :46:36.behind. Last tackle coming up. Kodi Nikorima putting the kick into the
:46:37. > :46:40.in goal area will stop this time England get the tap back on the 20.
:46:41. > :46:47.Not the best kick, little bit too much on it. EasyJet. England will be
:46:48. > :46:55.relieved to take it out. Interesting character Kodi Nikorima, he has a
:46:56. > :47:00.younger brother, who has signed for the Sydney Roosters, and it looks
:47:01. > :47:04.like rusty play for Australia! They qualify for both countries, he's a
:47:05. > :47:20.proud Kiwi commit his brother and Aussie! -- and his brother is an
:47:21. > :47:25.Aussie! England get the penalty. Too much anyone. What influence is the
:47:26. > :47:32.referee having so far? He will definitely try and keep the ruck
:47:33. > :47:43.clean. Adam Blair slowing it down, trying to buy team Daly time for the
:47:44. > :47:47.Kiwis to get back. The Kiwis conceding a lot of penalties last
:47:48. > :47:57.week. England looking to build this one this week. Into the 20.
:47:58. > :48:04.Hodgson, standing in waiting. Hell, they drive forward. Excellent work
:48:05. > :48:08.by the England starting front row. A little push after the tackle was
:48:09. > :48:14.completed. The Kiwis should know. One thing in the Australian Rugby
:48:15. > :48:20.league, they do play-the-ball a lot quicker. They should know that, the
:48:21. > :48:25.Kiwis. Yes, you can play the referee little bit. He has been consistent
:48:26. > :48:32.from the start. A conscious decision from the Kiwis, not leaving too many
:48:33. > :48:42.people on the floor. Moa not letting him play-the-ball. They may be
:48:43. > :48:49.prepared to this -- prepared to accept another six. Interesting.
:48:50. > :48:56.First time England have the attacking opportunity, they have
:48:57. > :49:01.gone for the two points. New Zealand conceded seven penalties last week,
:49:02. > :49:06.England only conceding two. Already the penalty can begin to rack up.
:49:07. > :49:10.Part parcel of why they the game. They were giving the penalties away
:49:11. > :49:25.in the second half. Also fumbling the ball. Not controlling it as well
:49:26. > :49:30.as they should. Knocking on. Roddick putting boot to ball, England have
:49:31. > :49:35.the early lead. Interesting reaction from the crowd when England elected
:49:36. > :49:40.to kick. They were hoping they were going to run the ball. Conservative
:49:41. > :49:46.ploy at this stage, is it the better approach? I think it is so important
:49:47. > :49:50.for the English Rugby league that they win this test. On the back of
:49:51. > :49:56.last week, when they have a dominant second-half, they need to clinch the
:49:57. > :50:05.series. 2007, eight years ago since England last won series, against the
:50:06. > :50:12.Kiwis, that was 3-0. A for what might happen in 2015? Whitehead,
:50:13. > :50:59.looking to build forward again. Only three players survive from that
:51:00. > :51:07.period Roby, over -- Sean O'Loughlin and Williams. We need to see some
:51:08. > :51:17.movement, for me. It is mourning this library than Olympic Stadium.
:51:18. > :51:20.-- it is more of an English library. They have come over, not much
:51:21. > :51:29.gametime, the advantage is with England. They are scampering
:51:30. > :51:35.forward, this is a good carry. But not in the end. He has had it
:51:36. > :51:41.stolen, the referee decides, from a distance. Jason Nightingale is a
:51:42. > :51:45.good player, nobody talks about him. Brilliant things in the back of the
:51:46. > :51:52.field. Practically winning them the four nations last year. Great
:51:53. > :51:57.player. Ball out of play for the tap restart for New Zealand. Getting
:51:58. > :52:08.closer again. Here is Harris, the big fella. Luke, 3 to his left, goes
:52:09. > :52:13.right, down the middle. Surging, trying to get the arm in. Whitehead
:52:14. > :52:19.making sure he cannot get the off-load away. A little step, reach.
:52:20. > :52:29.The English defence is desperate, just about good enough. Nikorima,
:52:30. > :52:35.has detect the high ball. John Bateman holds onto the tackle. Good
:52:36. > :52:44.play, they numbered up. Back to the middle they surge. Keeping it alive,
:52:45. > :52:47.flooding along the line. Touched by another English and, in the shape of
:52:48. > :52:54.Burgess. Another set of six for New Zealand. Burgess' intervention
:52:55. > :52:57.preventing the try scoring pass. That is where they are dangerous,
:52:58. > :53:02.the little off-load, creating the extra man. Very good defence by
:53:03. > :53:08.Kallum Watkins to get back onto his man.
:53:09. > :53:20.Fingertips taking it away from Nightingale. Joe Burgess, not from
:53:21. > :53:24.that family, of which so much publicity seems to have swelled in
:53:25. > :53:37.this last week month. Nikorima, cross the line. Nikorima in a dummy
:53:38. > :53:50.half. Jesse Bromwich, big surge. He is a handful. He has been wrapping
:53:51. > :53:56.it up for Melbourne in the NRL. Trying to run into the gap. He
:53:57. > :54:06.received it may have been there. " he. Penalty for New Zealand. --
:54:07. > :54:16.might have been there," he. They have had a view sets, yes, going for
:54:17. > :54:23.the two points. Scratch the chin for Stephen Kearney, the New Zealand
:54:24. > :54:31.coach. Hoping his side can level things up there. With 30 minutes
:54:32. > :54:39.played, very nearly. Issac Luke, the man who will take this penalty
:54:40. > :54:41.attempt. It needs firing up. It needs stroking by something. A
:54:42. > :54:55.little bit flat. He is off to Auckland, to join the
:54:56. > :55:04.New Zealand Warriors. After a very successful spell with Souths. He has
:55:05. > :55:14.had his disciplinary issues. He levels things up, all square with 13
:55:15. > :55:21.and a half minutes played. Not a real pattern emerging as of yet.
:55:22. > :55:25.Nobody on top. The forwards, maybe territory, the Kiwis Javier. All
:55:26. > :55:32.about the discipline, that will be key today. They are just feeling
:55:33. > :55:36.each other out, still. We may see that for another ten, 20 minutes.
:55:37. > :55:43.Both teams so conscious about getting a good start, frightened to
:55:44. > :55:49.express themselves. Here we go with the restart. It is sent high by
:55:50. > :55:58.Hardaker, good kick as well. Have them guessing. Nikorima catching it
:55:59. > :56:03.at the end. Brilliant kick. One thing I would like to see, targeting
:56:04. > :56:08.one of the forwards. The half-backs, they will have a better chance of
:56:09. > :56:16.carrying Daly catching. Ie saying the forwards cannot catch? No, but
:56:17. > :56:24.not as well as the half-backs. Good off-load by Adam Blair. Here is
:56:25. > :56:28.Jesse Bromwich. Out to Proctor. That is what they will do, they will
:56:29. > :56:33.off-load, that is why it is important if England can keep them
:56:34. > :56:48.in their own half, they will off-load, and look for the mistakes.
:56:49. > :56:57.The kick downfield by Peta Hiku, safely fielded. Pushback, by the
:56:58. > :57:09.arriving reinforcements of New Zealand defenders. Tony's down the
:57:10. > :57:13.touchline, keeping an eye on things. How conscious were you keeping a
:57:14. > :57:18.good start, not giving New Zealand a good start in this game? Always
:57:19. > :57:22.important to get a good start, get our forwards Kevin, kicking off the
:57:23. > :57:27.back of it. Not kicking as well as we would like. It is about kicking
:57:28. > :57:32.long when the weather is like this, completing your sets you can put New
:57:33. > :57:41.Zealand on the back foot, standing a chance of winning. Watson's Chase,
:57:42. > :57:45.involved again. He will go off. There is Matty Smith, who we just
:57:46. > :57:53.heard from. Almost lost by the Kiwis. Lovely little flick. Off they
:57:54. > :58:01.go again. Bateman is up there, good spotting. Out he comes. Mistake.
:58:02. > :58:05.Jesse Bromwich has lost it. Sharp pick-up by Watson, looking to get
:58:06. > :58:10.Whitehead going forward immediately. England were patient, staying up
:58:11. > :58:16.only off-loads. At some stage they will get some ball. Jesse Bromwich,
:58:17. > :58:21.trying to get the ball back, ricocheting off an England player.
:58:22. > :58:26.They get position. England encroaching inside New Zealand
:58:27. > :58:32.territory. Sean O'Loughlin, with the tough stuff down the middle. Here is
:58:33. > :58:40.Graham. Back it goes to Williams. Farrell coming on. Hammering it in.
:58:41. > :58:47.The situation is set from England to work from. Hill goes forward again.
:58:48. > :58:57.Final tackle coming up in this play. I will claim. Over kick. -- Plume
:58:58. > :59:06.I will claim. Over kick. --Plume Plume Sean O'Loughlin.
:59:07. > :59:15.Again, the defence doing extremely well. The speed is good. That is
:59:16. > :59:20.probably dominating at the moment, that is why it is Elizabeth flat.
:59:21. > :59:25.The flow is not working for the Kiwis because of that. Both defences
:59:26. > :59:30.more up to speed than last week, that is the key. We saw a few soft
:59:31. > :59:33.tries against England at the start of the game. They are clearly on
:59:34. > :59:40.their mettle. Suddenly the crowd has got the message, the atmosphere is
:59:41. > :59:48.livening up. Driven forward by Moa, good carry. It is the fifth tackle
:59:49. > :59:57.as he goes down. It comes off in England foot. Another set of six.
:59:58. > :00:06.Riding their luck. Five yards out, New Zealand have an opportunity to
:00:07. > :00:16.really hammer at the English line. They get another set, it is a
:00:17. > :00:22.penalty. Some discipline will be required by England in defence. They
:00:23. > :00:28.don't want the two. They fancy England may be rocking and rolling a
:00:29. > :00:41.little. Blair, unexpected recipient of that ball. Gaze back to Nikorima,
:00:42. > :00:47.skipping back. Here comes Harris. Searching left, but finding only
:00:48. > :00:55.white shirts will stop -- white shirts. Nikorima carrying it
:00:56. > :01:00.further. Proctor. English defenders doing well at the moment. Sweeping
:01:01. > :01:05.it back to Nightingale, searching for the centre ground, the winger.
:01:06. > :01:11.Last tackle for England to hold out. A series of defensive hard work.
:01:12. > :01:17.They come up with the ball again. Dropped on by James Graham, terrifc
:01:18. > :01:21.by Danish defence. Well done by Danish defence, clear your lines.
:01:22. > :01:23.Not the greatest of kicks. Trying to thread the needle. Could not get
:01:24. > :01:39.through. England can be very happy,
:01:40. > :01:43.possession and territory, 61%. That is for New Zealand and yet they have
:01:44. > :01:53.not looked like scoring a try. England will be very happy after 20
:01:54. > :01:59.minutes. There has been a change for New Zealand. I wonder how long until
:02:00. > :02:06.the props are rotated as well. There is a lot of defending they need to
:02:07. > :02:12.do. We'll let him run along as long as he can. Watch James Roby, on the
:02:13. > :02:18.back of a quick play, he can be devastating. Like last week, the
:02:19. > :02:31.impact was made from the bench, and I think he will be looking for the
:02:32. > :02:42.same again. That is a knock-on, is it? Martin Talbot has come on for
:02:43. > :02:54.New Zealand. Off he goes with that magic footwork. I think the Kiwis
:02:55. > :03:04.are very lateral. England are coping comfortably. Spun away into space,
:03:05. > :03:10.but a great recovery. Must be running close to empty at the
:03:11. > :03:16.moment. Pushing and pushing. England's defenders are pushing
:03:17. > :03:25.back. On the sidelines you can see Burgess. New Zealand are throwing
:03:26. > :03:30.everything at this English line. There has been a tangle in the
:03:31. > :03:37.favour of England. Kodi Nikorima with the pass. Another set of six.
:03:38. > :03:44.It will be New Zealand with the chance. England are under the cosh.
:03:45. > :03:54.They will need to work hard. They are at sixes and sevens. This
:03:55. > :03:59.deflection means it is a defensive scrum for England. You cannot
:04:00. > :04:06.interchange in the scrum and they will not want to interchange whilst
:04:07. > :04:15.England are defending like this. They will need to run on empty
:04:16. > :04:28.little bit longer. They need to put some pressure on in that half. Here
:04:29. > :04:41.comes another wave of black to test resolve. England will need to be
:04:42. > :04:51.careful. James Roby came from a long way back to get that. He gets it
:04:52. > :05:05.away. Just dragged down. How many tackles to go? Another drive by
:05:06. > :05:11.Harris. Big effort by him but an even bigger effort by the four
:05:12. > :05:18.players in white. Will they find a way through this time? They will
:05:19. > :05:28.not. The ball is dropped and England survive.
:05:29. > :05:50.Kiwis bashing at the door, going Route one. Trying to release a
:05:51. > :06:05.player. Great effort. They will be very happy with that. Brilliant
:06:06. > :06:29.penalty. We saw him trudging along the sideline. That means Burgess is
:06:30. > :06:34.on. The tenacity we have shown in defence has been absolutely
:06:35. > :06:39.brilliant. You can sense that. I am concerned about the energy, they
:06:40. > :06:48.have taken a lot out of them. But let us see what he can do. This
:06:49. > :07:00.could get interesting. This could be a big moment, psychological blow.
:07:01. > :07:15.There has been a slip and suddenly the traffic is going the other way.
:07:16. > :07:32.They want to get on with it. England thought they were getting a
:07:33. > :07:40.reprieve. Little bit of the execution from England. He has a
:07:41. > :07:53.little ambled forward to see what he might find. Kiwis look more
:07:54. > :08:03.individual. They have still got a tackle in the tank. This is the last
:08:04. > :08:28.one coming up now. Jordan Kahu spinning it to Kodi Nikorima. He can
:08:29. > :08:48.take it as quick as he likes. Usually comes towards the halfway
:08:49. > :09:06.line. I would attempt to describe it as mouse but at the moment...
:09:07. > :09:12.Communication was good leader. You can see that in New Zealand are
:09:13. > :09:21.utterly dominating in both respects. That is the problem. This is the end
:09:22. > :09:32.of this half, but also in the next half. Defensively, they have been
:09:33. > :09:35.awesome. Issac Luke is such an important player for that New
:09:36. > :10:09.Zealand side. It cannot be overestimated. Getting away with
:10:10. > :10:25.murder. He is not happy. He has got it wrong. There we are. All up
:10:26. > :10:29.there, big effort. This is what happens when the other side has the
:10:30. > :10:37.ball more often. Testing out the resolve of that New Zealand line. He
:10:38. > :10:52.is carrying well. Has had a great couple of seasons. Spinning it back.
:10:53. > :11:03.Alp they come towards Williams. England look more organised and
:11:04. > :11:25.fluent. It is more individual play from the Kiwis. Just stepping away.
:11:26. > :11:30.Might be the best thing since anybody else played in that
:11:31. > :11:35.position. It is the nature of the game, it is very forward orientated.
:11:36. > :11:50.They are still testing each other out after 40 minutes. Steve McNamara
:11:51. > :11:55.knows all about the danger he poses. Joe Burgess, on his own line. It is
:11:56. > :12:09.a great chase by New Zealand. Really good chase.
:12:10. > :12:38.That is Bateman. They have been under the cosh. That penalty will
:12:39. > :12:50.give him a full set. I think they have far more cohesion. This would
:12:51. > :12:56.be a great opportunity. Don't forget on the red button, you can get the
:12:57. > :13:06.forum afterwards. Once this match has finished. That is a solid drive,
:13:07. > :13:17.very sound effort by him. This is the Kiwis back another yard. This is
:13:18. > :13:35.Tom Burgess. England striding closer and closer. Sean O'Loughlin... Very
:13:36. > :13:38.nearly made short work of the Kiwi defenders, but they did well to hang
:13:39. > :13:42.on. But England have got the numbers.
:13:43. > :13:57.He puts the kick in. It is Tohu Harris who gets there first.
:13:58. > :14:19.Adam Blair was loitering behind the line.
:14:20. > :14:35.Just had the cheque. There is the knock-on. What a big moment this is
:14:36. > :14:40.in the game, seven minutes of the half remaining. England with six
:14:41. > :14:48.tackles to pummel this New Zealand line. They have marshalled Kallum
:14:49. > :15:06.Watkins well. He is such a brilliant player. He plays it relatively
:15:07. > :15:18.quickly. He had two men on the outside and could not get the ball
:15:19. > :15:23.away. Needed to go wide. Making a name for himself.
:15:24. > :15:36.That is five tackles, and they have got that close. How much closer can
:15:37. > :15:44.they get. Desperation, fingernails... But he beat Tom
:15:45. > :15:57.Burgess. That is very good play by England. See how much they've got
:15:58. > :16:01.left in the tank. How much has Sam Burgess's time in rugby union served
:16:02. > :16:07.from well? He has come out of the spotlight and claim a place in this
:16:08. > :16:14.team. He was getting gametime along with his brother. They've got three
:16:15. > :16:18.of them again this year. I understand what you're saying and it
:16:19. > :16:28.is a fear, but I think he was getting plenty anyway. He has done
:16:29. > :16:34.an extremely good job today. I think England have got the Kiwis on the
:16:35. > :16:45.fringes. They need to keep their composure. He will cut in and almost
:16:46. > :16:52.cut through! Almost. Back again, across the line.
:16:53. > :17:07.That was a forward pass. Just overran. I've been impressed by this
:17:08. > :17:16.kid. He's done well. He is doing well, controlling the game. He is
:17:17. > :17:32.key. He is controlling the kicking game. Very solid. These days, there
:17:33. > :17:58.is a stellar start at St George. Trying to keep them inside their own
:17:59. > :18:01.half. They are experienced campaigners, they are making a
:18:02. > :18:05.conscious decision to stay strong throughout the game. We've not seen
:18:06. > :18:13.a drop-off when they've introduced people from the bench.
:18:14. > :18:27.Penalty for New Zealand. With a bit too much interference after the
:18:28. > :18:32.tackle was completed. So, a penalty. Just a shadow of the World
:18:33. > :18:37.Cup semifinal and the penalty given away by Burgess. Let us not linger
:18:38. > :18:43.long on that one. A few people will never get over that.
:18:44. > :18:56.The inside pass. Not for and picking at the moment.
:18:57. > :19:25.Was aiming to the referee. It was a shocker. Fantastic defence by
:19:26. > :19:30.England. A couple of times I thought they were over for the try but
:19:31. > :19:39.brilliant last ditch attempt before a dreadful kick. That was crucial.
:19:40. > :19:52.One opportunity. This game might just be about a
:19:53. > :20:04.missed tackle, one effort not quite there to break it up. If he holds
:20:05. > :20:07.his depth he can put one of the wingers over in the corner. They are
:20:08. > :20:28.doing their job and holding the midfield. It is like a chess match
:20:29. > :20:42.but all the pieces are kings. We need some football. The kicking game
:20:43. > :20:46.is important, just got to keep the game solid, try and cut out your
:20:47. > :21:04.mistakes. When an opportunity comes you take it. Can England give
:21:05. > :21:06.themselves a lead? Enough of a touch to convince the referee it was a
:21:07. > :22:12.knock-on. One chance for the Kiwis. Temporary absence of Issac Luke,
:22:13. > :22:27.standing on the sidelines at the moment. The referee shouting to make
:22:28. > :22:40.sure he was onside. Slowly but surely making decent ground here.
:22:41. > :22:43.This is going to go up in the air. Can he beat one? He's done a
:22:44. > :22:59.terrific job to get back in the field of play. It is a greasy ball,
:23:00. > :23:11.put it up in the air. I think England will take great confidence
:23:12. > :23:17.in this, they have held out Burma. The hooter sounds at the end of a
:23:18. > :23:27.tight and tense first half, just one penalty kick. There has been no
:23:28. > :23:36.tries in that opening 40 minutes. England just about having the
:23:37. > :23:40.advantage of that half. Absolute chess match, this. What will make
:23:41. > :23:47.the difference? The defence has been holding up rate. If we keep turning
:23:48. > :23:52.up, the points will come. Will the kicking game be key for you? Yes, if
:23:53. > :23:59.we can do that we will get the result. You dominated possession for
:24:00. > :24:03.much of that. Are you disappointed you cannot get over the line? Not
:24:04. > :24:16.really, we were trying to build something, we defended. Obviously we
:24:17. > :24:24.would like to get across. Thank you. Let's take a look at the stats from
:24:25. > :24:32.that first half. This is Rugby League, New Zealand with more
:24:33. > :24:49.possession and territory. There are nine penalties. Is this flat? Yellow
:24:50. > :24:59.mac I am quite enjoying it. It is very physical. We spoke about how it
:25:00. > :25:06.was to be a physical encounter. The speed of the game has changed for
:25:07. > :25:09.England. They brought to my players on and it kicked it up another
:25:10. > :25:16.level. They've got to deal with it in the second half. I would
:25:17. > :25:26.disagree, I don't think it has been hugely physical. The game has needed
:25:27. > :25:30.one of those big men to kick-start the game. Both sides have been
:25:31. > :25:35.conservative, they have played possession, statistics, all of these
:25:36. > :25:44.things, ultimately, both sides are quite toothless. From New Zealand
:25:45. > :25:53.point of view, thrown everything at the England line and England need to
:25:54. > :25:59.dig in. You've got to commend both sets of defences. You can see where
:26:00. > :26:09.the emphasis has been on defending the line and being committed. It has
:26:10. > :26:17.been a drab affair. Would you agree with Sue at home who says the match
:26:18. > :26:24.could do with a bit of beef. Two you've got to agitate them. I like
:26:25. > :26:32.to see some emotion and fire in the belly, but... I think both teams
:26:33. > :26:37.look nervous. There are showing one another respect and they know what
:26:38. > :26:41.they can offer. New Zealand saw exactly what they can throw at them.
:26:42. > :26:46.That is why you're seeing a more conservative approach. Are all the
:26:47. > :26:52.talk about how much that has been an enjoyable first 40 minutes or not,
:26:53. > :27:06.the defence for England deserves a lot of praise. Yes, they had a lot
:27:07. > :27:11.of opportunities. Did not do that once, they did it twice. Another
:27:12. > :27:23.example here. Showing his athletic ability. He trusts his athletic
:27:24. > :27:32.ability. What we are seeing from him, he is one of the most difficult
:27:33. > :27:35.positions to defend in. This is showing England's willingness to
:27:36. > :27:46.stick together. I know for a fact they've actually worked very hard on
:27:47. > :27:58.these. England really turned up for this one. England have not had many
:27:59. > :28:05.blips. It is difficult to break that defence down. To break that defends
:28:06. > :28:09.down unique smart players who can create space. If I am brutally
:28:10. > :28:22.honest, they have not been able to create space. England struggled in
:28:23. > :28:31.that department as well. They could go north a little bit more. They are
:28:32. > :28:36.running laterally. On the flip side, England are creating a lot of space
:28:37. > :28:44.on the right hand side. They have drawn a lot of players at him, he's
:28:45. > :28:53.needed to do a lot of defending. England are finding their space. The
:28:54. > :28:59.England players might be taking on the messages, but as the guys have
:29:00. > :29:04.alluded to, the defence of work will have taken it out of them. I agree
:29:05. > :29:10.with you. That will have sapped some of the energy. We spoke about the
:29:11. > :29:14.bench coming on and being strong. They've got the depth and quality to
:29:15. > :29:18.manage that and come out and play well in the second half. England
:29:19. > :29:27.came out in the second half, had a lot of energy and were focused. If
:29:28. > :29:41.New Zealand kicked better could they be ahead? The kicking game from New
:29:42. > :29:48.Zealand was shambolic. We were chatting and Jamie Peacock made a
:29:49. > :29:59.point. They never come up with kicks as bad as this. England's kicking
:30:00. > :30:08.game was not great but this was lacking a lot. There was no clear
:30:09. > :30:15.vision. That has been identified as a problem. One of the issues, they
:30:16. > :30:21.have experience and time on the ball. Those special players, looking
:30:22. > :30:34.at building more pressure. At this level, six tackles at the
:30:35. > :30:40.goal line is not enough. That is what you need to do, kicked well,
:30:41. > :30:46.make sure six becomes 12, becomes 18 and you get your try. England's best
:30:47. > :30:55.chances have come from kicks? England's kicking game was not
:30:56. > :31:03.great. Thanks further. -- thanks for that. Let's not sugar-coat that.
:31:04. > :31:08.They created chances through wayward kicks. Williams puts up and nothing
:31:09. > :31:18.kick, but in the unstructured part of the game, the any period which
:31:19. > :31:24.was, England looked dangerous. For me, Robbie made a smart point, both
:31:25. > :31:33.sides were a bit too lateral with the ball. James Roby kicking out a
:31:34. > :31:37.dummy half, the best chances. A marked difference between the two
:31:38. > :31:43.attacking styles, England moving the big attacking pack around, England
:31:44. > :31:47.expending energy, even though they have been defending their line a
:31:48. > :31:54.lot, very direct, not had to move the lot. The fact that the New
:31:55. > :31:57.Zealand pack are having to go from one side of the field to the other
:31:58. > :32:09.means they are burning up more energy than England, even though ...
:32:10. > :32:13.You think more could have been taken out of the Kiwi defence because of
:32:14. > :32:19.that? They're setting up the play, moving it well. New Zealand picking
:32:20. > :32:23.up the lead runner every time. They may change the game plan in the
:32:24. > :32:29.second half, putting a guy in front of the England defence. I think the
:32:30. > :32:34.New Zealand strength is the off-loading game. It is the chase
:32:35. > :32:39.between the forwards, they come up with the off-load. That is where
:32:40. > :32:43.England need to defend well. The interplay between the forwards,
:32:44. > :32:47.bending the line, allowing the off-load. You can only get two
:32:48. > :32:53.defenders in utmost, that is where they come in. The pass to the
:32:54. > :32:57.off-load. Your strength is the weakness in sport. Off-loading the
:32:58. > :33:04.ball in contact is also the weakness. Two or three errors,
:33:05. > :33:10.gifting possession to England. I agree with JP, I cannot see this New
:33:11. > :33:12.Zealand side breaking England down anywhere other than off-loading the
:33:13. > :33:20.ball and speeding it up. Structure will not work for them. They have a
:33:21. > :33:25.big pass play at right, it is the off-loads, off-the-cuff that will
:33:26. > :33:29.break England down. They have guys who are amazing on their feet, you
:33:30. > :33:34.can find the outside players providing they keep their shape. Do
:33:35. > :33:38.you accept that in sport. If something is your strength,
:33:39. > :33:46.sometimes it will not come off and struggle? You adapt your started
:33:47. > :33:51.super personnel. If you are tired, or whatever game you play, you
:33:52. > :33:56.revert to a style you have always had. BBQ we forwards won to off-load
:33:57. > :34:01.the ball, they have done it all their lives. If they get the
:34:02. > :34:05.opportunity they will do it. The reason they have been strong over
:34:06. > :34:09.the years is the off-loading game. We saw last week they fell in a hole
:34:10. > :34:14.at the end of the game, I don't think they have got any theatre this
:34:15. > :34:19.week. At the Rhinos, we have the emphasis on passing and off-loading.
:34:20. > :34:23.But you always need to defend. You have to be committed to defend. That
:34:24. > :34:28.is what we did not see from the Kiwis last week. The double edge of
:34:29. > :34:33.the sword, although you can score points, you need to be committed and
:34:34. > :34:39.make the tackle. We have had an awful lot of correspondence about
:34:40. > :34:44.this. Paul Walsh, Danny Lomax, Matt O'Connor, saying the way the
:34:45. > :34:49.refereeing is going, a lot of penalties around the ruck, could see
:34:50. > :34:55.someone go. Also affecting the flow of the game. Part parcel of the two
:34:56. > :34:59.teams being nervous, trying to control the speed of the ruck,
:35:00. > :35:06.wanting the energy reserves to win the game. It is 2-2, I reckon this
:35:07. > :35:09.game will go to the wire, a game of attrition, and he will have the most
:35:10. > :35:17.Jews in the tank come the last test minutes. -- ten minutes. This is a
:35:18. > :35:21.Test match, the referee 's should be talking to the players, saying he is
:35:22. > :35:26.scrutinising the ruck, make it quick. Instead of everybody being
:35:27. > :35:34.caught out in the game. Nine penalties have contributed to why
:35:35. > :35:40.the game is dull. They should be selling our sport, sometimes... Nine
:35:41. > :35:46.penalties and one half. That is too many. Thank you for the moment. As
:35:47. > :35:51.I'm sure you are aware, watching this afternoon, a sad week for the
:35:52. > :36:08.Rugby league family. The passing of two individuals who played a big
:36:09. > :36:27.part in it. The young referee Chris leather -- Leatherbarrow, we also
:36:28. > :36:31.lost Colin Welland, writer, scriptwriter, he was part of the BBC
:36:32. > :36:36.Challenge Cup coverage, including when he received access all areas.
:36:37. > :36:40.For any rugby league fan to be standing in the tunnel is marvellous
:36:41. > :36:44.enough. I can hear the crowds cheering for the kids. To be going
:36:45. > :36:51.into the dressing room is beyond my wildest dreams. A unique experience
:36:52. > :36:58.for you, as well. I will just not. I use medically insured? Can I come
:36:59. > :37:11.in? Last year you played a great game, like a force-fed five. I said,
:37:12. > :37:20.this guy can really play, he was standing. Every time I watch Leeds
:37:21. > :37:32.play you get on. Do you have an arrangement with said? I don't know.
:37:33. > :37:36.Last time Saint Helens won the cup, they had an old man's pack,
:37:37. > :37:40.everybody said they would get beaten because they are too old. You have
:37:41. > :37:44.had to replace them with some young players. Good players, we are
:37:45. > :37:53.confident they can win again for us not I once played in a side that
:37:54. > :37:57.lost 83-3 to Cowley. Newton grammar. You did something I always wanted to
:37:58. > :38:02.do, country rugby union and the rugby league player, never good
:38:03. > :38:06.enough. Always nice to do it. The best of luck lads come I hope the
:38:07. > :38:15.best team wins. I hope I will enjoy it as well. Colin Welland, sadly
:38:16. > :38:18.missed. We were shown more of that remarkable archive footage on the
:38:19. > :38:23.red button. Let's go to pitch side, Tanya. Ben Westwood, what was the
:38:24. > :38:27.mood in the dressing room at half-time? Very positive. New
:38:28. > :38:32.Zealand have come out and put pressure on our line. Defensively we
:38:33. > :38:38.have been fantastic. Pleasing to see. What will make a difference in
:38:39. > :38:42.the second half? I think we need to step up in our attacking. Once we
:38:43. > :38:47.have offended, we need to go forward, take them on, hopefully
:38:48. > :38:51.these big boys will get tired and we can run away like last week.
:38:52. > :38:56.Frustrating to be watching on, do you wish you were out there? Not
:38:57. > :39:00.nice, but mostly part of the squad, I love being around the boys.
:39:01. > :39:05.Although I would love to be playing. I am enjoying my time here.
:39:06. > :39:12.Hopefully next week we will see what happens. About to get back under
:39:13. > :39:20.way. Let's return to Jonathan, Brian and Dave Woods.
:39:21. > :39:25.COMMENTATOR: We need entertainment in the second half, tight and tense,
:39:26. > :39:31.a lot of attritional staff, tough defence from both sides. We could do
:39:32. > :39:36.with some star factor. I have picked up on what the boys were saying, in
:39:37. > :39:42.the half-time analysis. I think England have a chance to move the
:39:43. > :39:45.Kiwi team around in another way. Around the fringes, releasing
:39:46. > :39:49.Watkins and Hardaker, move them laterally before going forward. That
:39:50. > :39:55.will be part of the England's team thinking. It needs more expansion
:39:56. > :40:02.from one team to break the game up. Go forward first. Very lateral. A
:40:03. > :40:07.poor pass. That is what they have to do. I am convinced if they keep a
:40:08. > :40:17.bit of composure as Brian said, on the fringes, Hardaker holding his
:40:18. > :40:24.line of bit. Opportunities for them. Almost an apology by Tom verges, he
:40:25. > :40:31.knew it was forward. Fireworks night this week, we could do with some
:40:32. > :40:34.fireworks here this afternoon. It is 2-2 at the moment, with a Test
:40:35. > :40:41.series in the balance. England winning the first game at Hull last
:40:42. > :40:46.week. It would be their first Test series win in eight years, and that
:40:47. > :41:02.was against the Kiwis back in 2007. A luck at stake. -- a luck.
:41:03. > :41:13.Nikorima doesn't do with it. It has gone backwards, the Kiwis get away
:41:14. > :41:22.with it. A standing start for the Kiwis' front man. Let's see if the
:41:23. > :41:30.kick is better. Nikorima, on the sixth tackle, taking it to the line,
:41:31. > :41:37.the offload. Was it a knock-on? It is a reach by Kenny-Dowall. A big
:41:38. > :41:46.question mark hanging over this. He reckons a try. Having a look at the
:41:47. > :41:51.knock-on. Let's hear from our video referee team, James Child and Phil
:41:52. > :42:03.Bentham. We are checking for a knock-on on the offload. He is in
:42:04. > :42:10.there. Or backwards. The pick-up is caught, that is fine, play on.
:42:11. > :42:19.Everything looking towards a try. We go towards the grounding. The

:26:07. > :26:14.worth one point. But it is also worth a victory as far as New
:26:15. > :26:33.Zealand are concerned. That is surely too far back. We are off to
:26:34. > :26:42.Wigan next week for a humdinger of a decider.
:26:43. > :27:01.2.5 minutes to go. Need to score here.
:27:02. > :27:15.That drop goal should have secured victory but still stretching his
:27:16. > :27:22.hamstrings. They came in the many thousands hoping for England to make
:27:23. > :27:30.history. It does not look like it will end up that way. England have
:27:31. > :27:57.not scored a try in this game and they would love to write that wrong.
:27:58. > :28:03.They can take their time with this drop out and England will have one
:28:04. > :28:13.more chance and that will not be enough. Yellow matter has been
:28:14. > :28:20.nothing to pick between the teams. Probably separated these teams. They
:28:21. > :28:32.have both concentrated on a little bit of attack. It is on the fringes.
:28:33. > :28:37.They've done their job, they've held the midfield, they've isolated them,
:28:38. > :28:53.they've done brilliantly. The defence have been awesome. England
:28:54. > :28:58.stand up, because since the opening minute of that last game, they went
:28:59. > :29:01.for a long time having only conceded one try. They've got to take
:29:02. > :29:06.something from that. England have not scored a try here. They want to
:29:07. > :29:18.light up London in the very last moments. He has pastored forward to
:29:19. > :29:27.himself. The Kiwi know if they can get the ball back from this it
:29:28. > :29:32.should see them over. They are spending a lot of time together,
:29:33. > :29:41.they have improved beyond all recognition. I still think England
:29:42. > :29:48.have some improvement in them. I think Jesse Bromwich, Kevin Proctor
:29:49. > :29:58.and Adam Blair have been good for the Kiwis. I think next week will be
:29:59. > :30:02.about who can attack the best. I would like to see backs into the
:30:03. > :30:14.game. Are brilliant runners. They've not been used as much as I would
:30:15. > :30:19.have liked. There is clearly not much between these teams. That is
:30:20. > :30:52.Test match football at the highest level. Can England create something?
:30:53. > :31:01.New Zealand have it back again. Still alive with one game to go. It
:31:02. > :31:10.will be decided in Wigan next week. England taking their capital
:31:11. > :31:14.punishment in London today. They have only conceded one but it is New
:31:15. > :31:23.Zealand who come out with the honours. The unlikeliest of
:31:24. > :31:29.scorelines. That is a reflection that the entertainment we have seen
:31:30. > :31:41.today, defence on top, and ultimately, New Zealand on top. One
:31:42. > :31:45.Test match each with one to go. In seven days this series will be
:31:46. > :31:55.decided. Not quite the spectacle the Rugby League community were hoping
:31:56. > :32:07.for today. This has been a pedigree performance. Congratulations, huge
:32:08. > :32:11.effort for your side. They let us down last week, credit to those
:32:12. > :32:20.boys. We turned up, keep turning up and played for 80 minutes. Very
:32:21. > :32:30.patient. Sometimes you get carried away. Can you seal it at Wigan?
:32:31. > :32:35.100%. Anything can happen. We will get ready for a big game. Let's
:32:36. > :32:43.bring in the England captain. Sean O'Loughlin. How frustrating was
:32:44. > :32:48.that? It was tough. That is what you expect from an international match.
:32:49. > :32:51.Both teams were going to be a lot better, they came out better this
:32:52. > :32:59.week. We did not handle it as well. Credit to them. We have work to do.
:33:00. > :33:10.Thank you. Very quickly, the man of the match. Here is your champagne,
:33:11. > :33:15.Issac Luke. How tough was that? Had. The boys did well. It seemed those
:33:16. > :33:19.little touches got you over the line. Our boys laid the platform and
:33:20. > :33:32.got us going forward. And Many congratulations. That is
:33:33. > :33:44.what say hello to my wife, Michaela, and my babies, Atticus and
:33:45. > :33:50.Cruise. New Zealand worked on a few things. Retention of the ball,
:33:51. > :33:56.making sure they controlled the ruck, they did very well. They
:33:57. > :34:00.frustrated England. Able to play for the full 80 minutes, which they did
:34:01. > :34:05.not last week. Very quickly, it England have to improve defensively
:34:06. > :34:11.next week? They did not look slick with the ball, cohesive. Probably
:34:12. > :34:18.tactically naive in the second half, you need to do more with the ball.
:34:19. > :34:24.Need to work on that. The defence was outstanding, one try conceded.
:34:25. > :34:29.Thank you to Jamie, Robbie, Jon Wilkin for the moment on BBC One.
:34:30. > :34:33.All the analysis, plenty of reaction, we will talk Sam Burgess,
:34:34. > :34:39.on the red button. We will see you in Wigan, next Saturday lunchtime,
:34:40. > :34:59.for the decider. Thanks.
:35:00. > :35:09.A drop goal attempt, he has won over. We are after Wigan next week,
:35:10. > :35:11.for a funding gap of a decider.
