:00:51. > :00:59.That afternoon, well come to Huddersfield, the road to Wembley
:01:00. > :01:02.begins here with two of the game's great clubs hoping to lift the
:01:03. > :01:11.Tetley's Challenge Cup when we get to Wembley at the end of August.
:01:12. > :01:24.They kick off is just under half an hour away. The former captain is in
:01:25. > :01:35.the studio with me, as is Jonathan Davies. What title shall I have you,
:01:36. > :01:39.Brian? We will get to the nitty-gritty of what exactly his
:01:40. > :01:43.role as due course. If you would like to get in touch with us, you
:01:44. > :01:51.can tweet us or use our Facebook page. There is a lot of talk about
:01:52. > :02:02.before we even get into Saint Helens and Huddersfield. What is your
:02:03. > :02:06.position at the moment? Well, I met with the chief executive on Friday
:02:07. > :02:13.morning and he was keen to go in a different direction on the coaching
:02:14. > :02:18.front. So in a nutshell, that is probably where we are at the moment.
:02:19. > :02:23.That has been a job offer as director of football. The big Asians
:02:24. > :02:36.have not been discussed in detail. -- the implications. So you are no
:02:37. > :02:43.longer head coach of Salford. You could be director of football, is
:02:44. > :02:48.that it? I think that is where we are wrapped. There is still a lot of
:02:49. > :02:54.water to go under the bridge and unanswered questions, certainly.
:02:55. > :03:02.After the great win on Thursday night, it was a bit of a surprise. A
:03:03. > :03:07.Salford fan is already in touch with us. He says, I really hope Brian
:03:08. > :03:17.stays on as director of football. Does that role appealed to you?
:03:18. > :03:23.Well, firstly, thank you. We all have to take legal advice in these
:03:24. > :03:27.situations and I think it is important to bear in mind it is
:03:28. > :03:31.difficult for me to talk about it because of that. I don't want to
:03:32. > :03:42.shoot myself or anybody else in the foot. What is the general feel of
:03:43. > :03:48.what happened to Brian? I certainly don't think he is coming out in the
:03:49. > :03:54.press and saying what Salford is going to do. It doesn't help his
:03:55. > :04:03.team. It adds so much more pressure. From my point of view, if
:04:04. > :04:07.I was facing that, you want to raise your game. You've been told as a
:04:08. > :04:11.team that you're going to go and do things, so you want to perform. He
:04:12. > :04:28.could be adding pressure to his players. We have to have benefactors
:04:29. > :04:31.and investments in sport but it amazes me - they should have
:04:32. > :04:38.delegations out to get people on board, but they should have hands-on
:04:39. > :04:41.approach. They've got credibility from their success in the business
:04:42. > :04:46.world, but why do they think they can just do what ever they want?
:04:47. > :04:53.They have to give someone a brawl, it leave them to get on with it, and
:04:54. > :05:05.stand back a bit. -- give someone a role. For some reason, sport is ego
:05:06. > :05:10.driven and it goes pear shaped. Well, did you feel sides were played
:05:11. > :05:16.in Salford differently this year to how they were played last year? Was
:05:17. > :05:21.that partly down to the owners? Well, it was down to the sometimes
:05:22. > :05:27.unrealistic expectancy placed on the player. Some of the things that have
:05:28. > :05:34.been said about the team, your game will be affected. I know intimately
:05:35. > :05:43.what has gone on and where the team is. I absolutely have complete faith
:05:44. > :05:48.in that team. Living with pressure is what players and coaches do.
:05:49. > :05:57.Could you do your job without interference? Excellent question. I
:05:58. > :06:06.was doing my job anyway. I think you could do it easily without
:06:07. > :06:13.interference. It's not so much about interference. Anybody who puts their
:06:14. > :06:18.money into a club and they own the club, that's the same with a lot of
:06:19. > :06:23.the rugby league clubs, they deserve to ask questions about what is going
:06:24. > :06:27.on. How the team are performing. They deserve to have answers.
:06:28. > :06:31.Pressure is part and parcel of what we do and part of the growing
:06:32. > :06:37.process in this new team, with players from 12 clubs, with high
:06:38. > :06:47.expectancy levels, it is not unexpected to have difficulties at
:06:48. > :06:52.the start. We are two points away from the top five. The catalyst of
:06:53. > :06:59.Thursday night, I felt, was probably the tipping point in terms of
:07:00. > :07:07.getting to know each other, getting players back out there. From the
:07:08. > :07:11.point of view of the players, when you get a game like this, as Brian
:07:12. > :07:16.says, this could've been the catalyst for the season. A couple of
:07:17. > :07:27.late tries, the second of which will see any moment - do you sometimes
:07:28. > :07:42.sensed a turning point? Definitely. Anyway in the Challenge Cup is
:07:43. > :07:49.worthy winner. -- any win in the Challenge Cup is a worthy win. If
:07:50. > :08:00.you look at it, you sometimes think, well, is our name on the Challenge
:08:01. > :08:04.Cup this year? If anything, maybe it is too early for sulphate in the
:08:05. > :08:17.Super League. But you only have to win a certain amount of games for
:08:18. > :08:22.the cup. -- for Salford. I wish absolutely every success. I think
:08:23. > :08:27.this team is ready to do things. There is always going to be a lot of
:08:28. > :08:33.noise around a new team. You just have to look at man city.
:08:34. > :08:38.Expectation levels are really high. Absolutely I'm disappointed. Do I
:08:39. > :08:43.understand some of it? Maybe not. I have faith in both myself and the
:08:44. > :08:50.players. They are a good group of players and it takes time sometimes
:08:51. > :08:58.to gel. They are a good group and they also have strong personalities.
:08:59. > :09:02.The coach will have to manage that as well. Sometimes, is it easier for
:09:03. > :09:12.a more experienced man to handle those personalities? Obviously,
:09:13. > :09:18.Brian's history in the game speaks for itself. But there are a lot of
:09:19. > :09:22.big personalities and the me that is 95% of a coach's job. These guys
:09:23. > :09:34.know how to play. It is about getting the best from them. Tweet or
:09:35. > :09:45.Facebook is. Brian is with us all afternoon. He will answer anything
:09:46. > :09:49.you want to put to him. Let's concentrate on this game.
:09:50. > :09:54.Huddersfield against St Helens, the prize of the Challenge Cup awaits in
:09:55. > :10:05.August. Who will get their hands on it? Who better to take us through
:10:06. > :10:27.this competition then our very own commentator. Tradition. Drama.
:10:28. > :10:43.Passion. The long road to Wembley begins with these two historic
:10:44. > :10:50.games. Saints Super League start has been faultless. Former Huddersfield
:10:51. > :10:55.coach wants the silverware to return to the Giants. They are desperate to
:10:56. > :11:21.add to last year's success. The road to Wembley starts here.
:11:22. > :11:24.The road to Wembley does indeed start here at Huddersfield although
:11:25. > :11:43.some games have taken place already, if that makes sense. There are the
:11:44. > :11:51.results so far. All the other games taking place today kick off at 2pm.
:11:52. > :11:55.So by the time we get to the draw for the fifth round we will know all
:11:56. > :12:03.the qualifying teams. Once the final which shall -- whistle has gone,
:12:04. > :12:12.that fifth round draw for Tetley's Challenge Cup will be straight after
:12:13. > :12:26.the game. Paul, is your former side of favourite? I would have to say
:12:27. > :12:35.so, looking at that team sheet. I think some of the players have done
:12:36. > :12:52.a fine plastic job. Luke Walsh has had a big impact. -- a fantastic
:12:53. > :13:01.job. Brian, I use a prize by how Saints have started this year? Know,
:13:02. > :13:15.the young players have stood up and learned from last year. -- are you
:13:16. > :13:25.surprised. They have a bit of flair and confidence. I think also it is a
:13:26. > :13:36.balance of youth and experience. A big pack of forwards, it looks like
:13:37. > :13:40.a very well-balanced side. Saints have capped an unbeaten record
:13:41. > :13:55.against Leeds. Last week, a couple of fantastic tries. Adam Swift and
:13:56. > :14:04.Jonny Lomax have added some genuine pace to the team. They just seem to
:14:05. > :14:11.be growing in confidence. Tommy's brains, that was a tough call and he
:14:12. > :14:21.was running out of time with the touchline looming. He is a smart
:14:22. > :14:24.guy. Give us some insight into how hard it is to tell yourself to wait
:14:25. > :14:30.for the right moment to pick up a bouncing ball. You just want a bigot
:14:31. > :14:43.out as soon as you can. The touchline is there. You just want to
:14:44. > :14:47.pick it up. Also, Jonny Lomax is a brilliant player. He reads the game
:14:48. > :15:01.so well. His kicking game is good. Makinson said after the win against
:15:02. > :15:05.Leeds that they had the best backline. Preseason, everyone said
:15:06. > :15:11.Leeds. He said they had a better backline. The match last week was
:15:12. > :15:17.the Leeds backline against the Saints backline. They're talented
:15:18. > :15:19.and they're quick and speedy and the Huddersfield backline have a
:15:20. > :15:26.definite challenge in that respect this week. For all the fancy work at
:15:27. > :15:33.the backline, sometimes you can't beat a big bloke upfront. None are
:15:34. > :15:41.bigger than that man there, Mose Masoe. If you look at here now, John
:15:42. > :15:50.Wilkins does look like a small boy for this interview!
:15:51. > :16:06.So you've got this nickname, the Smiling Assassin. UN joy that side
:16:07. > :16:11.of the game, don't you? I like the physicality of the game. I got the
:16:12. > :16:16.nickname because every time put a shot on, I smiled and it just
:16:17. > :16:26.aggravates the person playing the ball. We saw at training today you
:16:27. > :16:32.had a little smirk when you put one of our team-mate on his backside.
:16:33. > :16:38.Are you OK? A bit sore, to be honest. What happened? I was on the
:16:39. > :16:43.training field minding my own business and before I knew it I was
:16:44. > :16:48.on my back. It's just mucking around. That's just part of it. You
:16:49. > :16:53.are mucking around you are crucifying all of us! He's a big
:16:54. > :16:59.softy of the field but I'm glad he's on my team, rather than an
:17:00. > :17:05.opposition player. -- off the field. Polynesian athletes are you great
:17:06. > :17:10.asset for any sports team. It's the build of the Polynesian people. They
:17:11. > :17:18.love being physical. Others say they're to big!
:17:19. > :17:29.How big were you at 15? About 100 kilos! Every Samoan guy in
:17:30. > :17:39.professional rugby week seems to be huge. In Samoa, most of the people
:17:40. > :17:43.are lean and ripped. I think it is Samoan is born in New Zealand and
:17:44. > :17:47.Australia that introduced a Western diet and with the Samoan food, we
:17:48. > :17:59.just get massive. Do you like Western food? No! Clare how did you
:18:00. > :18:05.find the World Cup, playing for Samoa? Great fun. Surprise in,
:18:06. > :18:14.especially the game against New Zealand. It was a great atmosphere.
:18:15. > :18:21.Is that part of the reason you decided to come to this country?
:18:22. > :18:28.Yes, it was kind of like a Queen Street Hooligans atmosphere. The
:18:29. > :18:31.people of the games and supporting the teams. If you live in Saint
:18:32. > :18:40.Helens, you support Saint Helens. You can't support any other team. I
:18:41. > :18:48.think I'm about 80% at the moment. Still got to get fitter. Stay away
:18:49. > :18:58.from the Western diet! That it! Stick to eating veggies!
:18:59. > :19:02.He is a big, big man. We have spoken about Huddersfield yet but we will
:19:03. > :19:08.shortly. Brian, take us through the Saint Helen steam. A speedy
:19:09. > :19:14.backline, led by Jonny Lomax. He has potential to be the best fullback in
:19:15. > :19:18.the game. Two young, talented blokes. Jordan Turner has set the
:19:19. > :19:22.competition a light and watch out for him because they are framing the
:19:23. > :19:28.title of best backline and those two people are important. And there is
:19:29. > :19:34.the experience in the tank. They will get the team around. They are
:19:35. > :19:46.the important blokes. And what a front row! Kyle Amor with James
:19:47. > :19:57.Walmsley -- James Roby and Alex Walmsley. Mark Flanagan is in for
:19:58. > :20:02.the injured Jon Wilkin. Off the bench, some of the big blokes and an
:20:03. > :20:07.experienced man in Paul Wellens, one of the superstars of Super League.
:20:08. > :20:21.Another big young fella, Joe Greenwood, and a big, big, big
:20:22. > :20:25.fella, Manu Masoe. Clare let's look at one of the head is today.
:20:26. > :20:31.We've spoken about Luke Walsh but Luke Walsh against Danny Brough and
:20:32. > :20:40.how they manage their sides will be crucial. He's a great player. If you
:20:41. > :20:46.keep him quiet, you generally keep Huddersfield quiet. If you are on
:20:47. > :20:53.the Huddersfield backline, you want to impose physically on the St
:20:54. > :20:57.Helens boys but Danny Brough going forward, if they get the momentum,
:20:58. > :21:08.he's got everything. He's got a great kicking game. It's going to be
:21:09. > :21:12.a very good match. As Paul and Brian know, it's the platform that they
:21:13. > :21:17.lay for these two boys. Whoever gets the upper hand in the forward,
:21:18. > :21:26.either Walsh or broth will have the dominant game. Luke Walsh has only
:21:27. > :21:31.missed three goals this season. His goal-kicking has been outstanding
:21:32. > :21:35.and coming into games like this against Huddersfield, it could be
:21:36. > :21:38.all down to goal-kicking. As it's the Challenge Cup, you only get one
:21:39. > :21:46.opportunity so you want to take the chances. He's got a bit more help
:21:47. > :21:50.today, Danny Brough. Luke Robinson is experienced and Shaun Lunt has
:21:51. > :21:53.come back into the team. They've had to use Robinson a heck of a lot in
:21:54. > :21:58.the dummy half position, which he will play again today, but if you
:21:59. > :22:03.take a bit of pressure away from Danny Brough, he can win again
:22:04. > :22:05.single-handedly. As well as the head-to-head, there's something else
:22:06. > :22:14.to keep an eye on this afternoon, which is the hair of Soliola against
:22:15. > :22:20.Crabtree. He is properly flowing today! Much more volume four Soliola
:22:21. > :22:26.until he ruined it by getting it plaited. It was massive, that hair,
:22:27. > :22:33.against Leeds last weekend. We've given both of them a style marking
:22:34. > :22:38.of five. We have done that because, let me tell you, they are both worth
:22:39. > :22:43.it. Let's hear from both coaches, Nathan Brown and Paul Anderson.
:22:44. > :22:49.Nathan, a terrific start to the season. Last year was a season of
:22:50. > :22:54.transition. Why so consistent? Last year we used a lot of rookies and
:22:55. > :22:58.those same kids that are playing this year are still young and have a
:22:59. > :23:07.lot of improvement, just through playing, but last year gave me an
:23:08. > :23:09.indication. They've improved a fair bit and we've made some recruitment
:23:10. > :23:15.decisions which appear to be helping the team. Huddersfield made massive
:23:16. > :23:21.progress last year. It's been harder this season - why? A bit stuttering
:23:22. > :23:25.and there are some reasons behind that, and some poor decisions from
:23:26. > :23:29.us as well, but overall, bar one game, we've always been in positions
:23:30. > :23:34.to win games and let ourselves down at the end. A case of losing our
:23:35. > :23:44.attention. The game is 80 minutes, not 40, 50, 60. That is what we have
:23:45. > :23:47.to think about. It would have been ideal to have all the players for a
:23:48. > :23:53.game of this importance. You want your halfback playing. He seems to
:23:54. > :23:58.have done enough training to get himself out there. He is a fit guy.
:23:59. > :24:06.Do you do sentiment? You are coming back to your old place. Yeah, had
:24:07. > :24:11.some great times here. The last four or five weeks of the three and a
:24:12. > :24:14.half years weren't the best but I'm sure some of the players and other
:24:15. > :24:19.people would have handled things a little differently but you get that
:24:20. > :24:22.out of experience. The first three and a half years were nothing but
:24:23. > :24:27.enjoyable and great time. I've got some good friends still the and some
:24:28. > :24:33.of the guys playing today, I'd like to think I had a good impact on
:24:34. > :24:36.their careers. Good luck. STUDIO: Let's look at the guys they
:24:37. > :24:44.are playing against. How do Huddersfield look to you? A lot of
:24:45. > :24:52.speed with Grix. A powerhouse in McGillvary. Murphy has a tough ask.
:24:53. > :24:56.He is playing against a talented team. Joe Wardle I wouldn't have
:24:57. > :25:01.problems with but it is a big aim for Murphy. These two are as good as
:25:02. > :25:04.anybody else. Danny Brough is a man of steel and we saw his exploits in
:25:05. > :25:14.the World Cup. Phil Robinson will probably mix and match a little bit.
:25:15. > :25:18.Crabtree, the Robbie Savage lookalike, with Shaun Lunt running
:25:19. > :25:23.around, they've had a terrific season so far. The back three have a
:25:24. > :25:27.big challenge. This is where they need to compete really well. Jason
:25:28. > :25:34.Chan and accomplished international, Brett Ferres a new international,
:25:35. > :25:40.and Michael Lawrence. Chris Bailey, an experienced halfback, will help
:25:41. > :25:46.with the direction. Watch out for Faiumu when he comes off the bench.
:25:47. > :25:53.Antonio Kaufusi we've talked about. Always been a big boy. Big blokes
:25:54. > :25:57.everywhere! That's what you learn when you do rugby league. There is
:25:58. > :26:02.the Huddersfield Giants changing room. The man of steel is hidden in
:26:03. > :26:07.the corner at the moment. We can't get a great view of him. We've
:26:08. > :26:08.spoken about him already. There he is, right on cue. Let's hear from
:26:09. > :26:18.Danny Brough. Danny Brough lifts the league leader
:26:19. > :26:30.Shields! When we started this season, I was
:26:31. > :26:37.hoping for a top four spot but to go on and win was pretty good. They
:26:38. > :26:42.will savour this moment. I was pleased at the end of the season
:26:43. > :26:44.when I got the awards but I put it down to when you play good players,
:26:45. > :26:55.it makes you a better player. I got the call from Steve McNamara
:26:56. > :27:00.in February and he said to me that I wasn't in his plans and he was going
:27:01. > :27:06.to stick with others. There is no more I can do about that. I wasn't
:27:07. > :27:12.in the squad so I just had to wait and hope Scotland came calling and
:27:13. > :27:17.they did. Scotland asked me back so that's where I'm going to stay. I
:27:18. > :27:24.think lads have heard me talk about it too much.
:27:25. > :27:30.That was probably the best day I've ever had in rugby league, in the
:27:31. > :27:35.match, and something I was so proud of, to be part of, and it was
:27:36. > :27:38.something that... The fans that day and the homecoming on the bus is
:27:39. > :27:46.something that you do want. The people were fantastic.
:27:47. > :27:53.Last year we put a markdown. We can contend with the big boys but at the
:27:54. > :27:57.start of this year, we haven't found that warm up to now. Last season we
:27:58. > :28:07.had a bit of a bond and I think we need to get back to that. This week
:28:08. > :28:12.we've got the league leaders. Seven out of seven and we are playing good
:28:13. > :28:17.rugby. You can't hold anything back in this competition. You can't lose
:28:18. > :28:36.this year. You'll be out! Nathan Brown is very tactical, a
:28:37. > :28:43.very smart coach. I'm not saying the others aren't. But Nathan Brown can
:28:44. > :28:53.pick things up and has the smart that some people don't have. Winning
:28:54. > :28:56.the Challenge Cup is important but winning the league leaders
:28:57. > :28:59.shield... Some people won't play in the Challenge Cup final in their
:29:00. > :29:06.career which is pretty harsh, but that's the reality of life.
:29:07. > :29:11.STUDIO: Interesting comparisons from Danny Brough. Can he lead his
:29:12. > :29:16.Huddersfield side through this fourth-round tie in the Tetley's
:29:17. > :29:20.Challenge Cup at home to St Helens? Both teams in the tunnel, making
:29:21. > :29:24.their way out now. The road to Wembley starts here. We'll get the
:29:25. > :29:28.thoughts of Paul Sculthorpe and Brian Noble at half-time. Jonathan
:29:29. > :29:29.Davies has made his way to the commentary box, where he joins Dave
:29:30. > :29:40.Woods. Huddersfield are more than capable
:29:41. > :29:46.of adding to their silverware this year. They are against St Helens who
:29:47. > :29:53.have started in sensational style this season. It really is an
:29:54. > :29:59.exciting prospect here today. Danny Brough could have a big influence on
:30:00. > :30:09.this game. This is how they are lining up.
:30:10. > :30:27.Joe Wardle is back from his ankle problem. On the other side, Luke
:30:28. > :30:31.Walsh is playing today. Here's been a revelation in the early season but
:30:32. > :30:42.missed the last couple of games with a calf injury. Jon Wilkin is
:30:43. > :30:49.suspended today. It really is an unpredictable outcome. Saints have
:30:50. > :30:54.consistently shown they can hit the heights. Huddersfield, for all their
:30:55. > :31:10.inconsistency, have had their moments. Will they do it today? The
:31:11. > :31:24.perfect point to begin with four Saints. A penalty straightaway for
:31:25. > :31:38.Saint Helens. This will now give them field position. As you say,
:31:39. > :31:46.consistency is key for Huddersfield. They played superbly well against
:31:47. > :31:56.Wigan in the opening game. There was a tour of the performance against
:31:57. > :32:21.Leeds as well. -- a terrific performance. Huddersfield survived
:32:22. > :32:43.that opening set. Yes, that pass was far too high. 226 points in seven
:32:44. > :32:50.wins for Saint Helens this year. Huddersfield likes to move it around
:32:51. > :33:02.a bit as well. Plenty of work to do from deep inside their own half,
:33:03. > :33:22.Huddersfield. Craig Kopczak, Welsh international.
:33:23. > :33:42.A terrific kick on the angle lab. -- there. A great kick to finish. I
:33:43. > :34:14.think Adam Swift thought about catching it but let it running.
:34:15. > :34:19.We've seen the Kyle Amor a few times on BBC television over the past two
:34:20. > :34:53.years. Saint Helens have just gone up the
:34:54. > :35:09.side of the rack. Good support by Jonny Lomax, a great tackle. That is
:35:10. > :35:25.a very good hit. In the World Cup he was very much a star of the
:35:26. > :35:26.campaign. A tough effort from both sides in defence in these early
:35:27. > :36:09.stages. Here comes the final tackle in this
:36:10. > :36:17.set. Whether that was caught in the wind or not, I'm not sure. Nobody
:36:18. > :36:23.claimed it all went near it. I thought maybe Danny Brough would
:36:24. > :36:30.have caught it. There's the up and under, all onside. The ball bounces,
:36:31. > :36:46.no one claims it. I don't know why he tries to get it on.
:36:47. > :36:50.Willie Manu has the explosive ability to go up the channels. But
:36:51. > :37:27.not on this occasion. Almost through! You managed to drag
:37:28. > :37:37.him down. Just as well he did. Looking for the kick, but it is
:37:38. > :37:46.covered easily enough. I think they will have to watch Jonny Lomax. He
:37:47. > :37:55.comes in as a second receiver. Support for the fullback is very
:37:56. > :38:02.good. It is when years been moved to fullback by his coach that his
:38:03. > :38:23.potency has come to fruition. -- when he has been.
:38:24. > :38:52.He just measured that incorrectly. Good play from Danny Brough.
:38:53. > :39:03.An attacking scrum for Saint Helens. Great variety. The early kick, and
:39:04. > :39:12.now field position. Just watch. A brilliant cake. The winger hasn't
:39:13. > :39:28.dropped back. That is very good play from Luke Walsh. A chance to hammer
:39:29. > :39:32.the opponents line here. It is what he brings to this side, Luke Walsh.
:39:33. > :39:41.A to this side, Luke Walsh. Eight horrific goalkicker, but his
:39:42. > :39:59.organisation and everything. -- a terrific goalkicker.
:40:00. > :40:13.The defence is good enough for the moment, but there are still tackles
:40:14. > :40:26.to come. Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant from Adam Swift and Lance
:40:27. > :40:34.Hohaia. Finishing in the corner. Not the first time Lance Hohaia has
:40:35. > :40:43.thrown a dummy. On this occasion, they give him too much space. They
:40:44. > :40:52.don't complete the tackle. This was what set up the field position. That
:40:53. > :41:01.is a beautiful kick. Dummy, dummy, then put it in space. There is just
:41:02. > :41:11.too much of a gap. To dummy runners and one just holds. I think it is
:41:12. > :41:24.Jason Chan that gets held up in the defence. Comes across a bit too
:41:25. > :41:29.late. He has had mixed reviews in his time at Saint Helen 's, but I
:41:30. > :41:34.think the common consultants is that, alongside Luke Walsh this
:41:35. > :41:41.season, he is at his most effective. The New Zealand World Cup
:41:42. > :41:58.winner, of course, if you years ago. And Luke Walsh, the man who is the
:41:59. > :42:02.heartbeat of this side. That was some brilliant plague. He just goes
:42:03. > :42:27.through that whole. A bit of a triangle to go through. -- some
:42:28. > :42:32.brilliant play. I think Nathan Brown was our guest when St Helens were
:42:33. > :43:00.playing and it was Adam Swift's debut game. Huddersfield are leading
:43:01. > :43:10.the tackle count at the moment, which tells you how hard they are
:43:11. > :43:22.having to work. I'm sure they've done their homework. Saint Helens
:43:23. > :44:02.just look that little bit sharper in the first ten minutes.
:44:03. > :44:16.A bit of a gap developing on the right-hand side. He is a big
:44:17. > :44:34.handful, Jermaine McGillvary. A measured kick. Good take by Turner.
:44:35. > :44:42.Just not enough height on Matt. They've just got to make the easy
:44:43. > :44:49.yardage. At the moment, the Saint Helen 's defence is coping easily.
:44:50. > :44:56.12 times winners of the Challenge Cup, St Helens, the last of those in
:44:57. > :44:58.2008. They might feel they're on the track here as Makinson puts the kick
:44:59. > :45:19.through. Another glittering, superb St Helens
:45:20. > :45:24.try. That is a great try again, from the quick play on the ball by Masoe.
:45:25. > :45:33.They spot the space on the right hand side. They work the space for
:45:34. > :45:46.Makinson and this is from the mass overdrive. -- the Masoe drive. A
:45:47. > :45:54.lovely weighted kick. Roby... A simple pass, Makinson finishes it.
:45:55. > :46:01.That is a great, great try. There's the gap from Brighton dropping
:46:02. > :46:07.back. -- Broughton. Great support by Roby.
:46:08. > :46:14.A fairly straight finish by the standards that Johnny Makinson has
:46:15. > :46:24.set this season. He's scored some fabulous tries. The ninth try he's
:46:25. > :46:28.scored in eight games and there's only one match he's failed to score
:46:29. > :46:40.in, which was against the Salford Reds Devils. They've really done the
:46:41. > :46:43.hard yards, St Helens. Masoe takes it up, a quick play of the ball,
:46:44. > :46:49.then they take it wide. You've got to earn the opportunity to go wide.
:46:50. > :46:53.You can see the confidence absolutely pouring from St Helens at
:46:54. > :47:02.the moment. Not surprising, given the start of the season they've had.
:47:03. > :47:05.How good is the second attempt? It is just going to drift so while St
:47:06. > :47:13.Helens remain in the ascendancy, two goals missed. What a brilliant St
:47:14. > :47:20.Helens try and on the back of this quick play of the ball from Mose
:47:21. > :47:23.Masoe, Luke Walsh increases the opportunity, Jordan Turner releases
:47:24. > :47:27.Makinson. They should have closed the play down there, Huddersfield.
:47:28. > :47:32.Look at the number of blue shirts in the frame, backing each other up,
:47:33. > :47:34.supporting each other. Makinson finishes in the corner. A brilliant
:47:35. > :47:52.try. REFEREE: Surrender! 15 minutes
:47:53. > :47:57.played, nothing to suggest so far that St Helens are going to suffer a
:47:58. > :48:02.dip in form. Up to Huddersfield to dig deep and find a way back into
:48:03. > :48:11.this game. A long way to go and Huddersfield need to show some heart
:48:12. > :48:12.now. S Flanagan pushing for possession inside the Huddersfield
:48:13. > :48:25.half. Broughton is the man who is going to
:48:26. > :48:30.bring this back in. A beautiful kick to finish.
:48:31. > :48:39.That says it all. First half possession is 70% to St Helens.
:48:40. > :48:52.Territory 63%. St Helens fans in good voice. Huddersfield fans need
:48:53. > :48:56.to find their voice. This is a very good kick. Beyond very good, it's a
:48:57. > :49:02.brilliant kick! Absolutely brilliant! And when his side needed
:49:03. > :49:09.it most, Danny Brough has come up with another scintillating 40-20
:49:10. > :49:16.that puts his side from the brink of defence to the attack. He gets
:49:17. > :49:19.behind his own player. He's got to check his run and then put a
:49:20. > :49:23.magnificent kick in. When Huddersfield needed something to
:49:24. > :49:28.happen on the field, whether it was a tackle, a break or a kick... That
:49:29. > :49:33.should lift Huddersfield Giants now. A great opportunity for them.
:49:34. > :49:38.Danny Brough prepares to feed the scrum. Huddersfield prepare to
:49:39. > :49:45.launch their attack. First effort from Jason Chan. First time the St
:49:46. > :49:51.Helens line has been under pressure in these early stages and Kopczak is
:49:52. > :49:55.very nearly there. He dropped the ball backwards in trying to reach
:49:56. > :50:02.out. Well, the referee, having initially said it was a knock-on, I
:50:03. > :50:10.think now is just double-checking. Let's hear for the first time today
:50:11. > :50:20.from our video referee Ian Smith. We're looking at how the ball came
:50:21. > :50:23.out of Craig Kopczak's Hand. It's how the ball came out of this. He's
:50:24. > :50:45.got hold of it there. He loses that. Yeah, loses that.
:50:46. > :50:54.Just run it back, play it at full speed. Yeah.
:50:55. > :51:02.Knock-on. Yeah, that's got to be a knock-on. In the field of play,
:51:03. > :51:10.that, so it's going to be a no try scrum to St Helens. Well, there we
:51:11. > :51:16.get it. No try and scrum to St Helens. But how close was that? Full
:51:17. > :51:23.marks to Sean Long for showing the alertness. An interesting call. --
:51:24. > :51:28.Shaun Lunt. I thought that could have been a try because I thought
:51:29. > :51:34.the ball went back. The knock-on is given, though. Scrum to St Helens.
:51:35. > :51:44.Those who are watching on the big screen here think that was just try
:51:45. > :51:50.-- was a try. But Ian Smith, the video referee, said there was a
:51:51. > :51:53.knock-on. So St Helens survived. Huddersfield missing out on their
:51:54. > :51:59.opportunity, the first of the game so far, but St Helens have a chance
:52:00. > :52:06.to bring it forward. Let's hear from Damien Johnson on the touchline.
:52:07. > :52:13.Anthony Laffranchi didn't make the team today. You must have been
:52:14. > :52:20.pleased with what you've seen. It's been a good start. It is a quality
:52:21. > :52:25.Giants team that we had to get off to a good start and we've done that.
:52:26. > :52:33.Thanks, and penny. -- Anthony Howell.
:52:34. > :52:46.COMMENTATOR: He's on the field of play now. Here comes Lomax. Roth has
:52:47. > :52:51.it. The sun has come out. If you get close to Mose Masoe you might think
:52:52. > :53:00.it has gone back under the clouds again!
:53:01. > :53:10.A clash of heads there. Kyle Amor has come off badly. Copped one right
:53:11. > :53:14.on the head. Claiming it should have been another six but the referee has
:53:15. > :53:22.not seen it that way. A difficult pass. I think he's twisted his knee
:53:23. > :53:29.going down, Kyle Amor. Perfectly measured. Swift had to get up in the
:53:30. > :53:36.field of play but was tackled in mid by McGillvary. A great kick and a
:53:37. > :53:43.great catch by Swift. This ball is drifting away from him, he's taken
:53:44. > :53:47.it in the air. A great take. Had it not been for the midair tackle, had
:53:48. > :53:51.he taken it in the field of play, he'd have had to do something about
:53:52. > :53:59.it. Another yard or two, it in the goal area. The accuracy of that kick
:54:00. > :54:09.plate was spot on. Shame he took it in the air, really.
:54:10. > :54:18.A bit of a stopper cheered because Kyle and more is still being
:54:19. > :54:25.treated. -- a bit of a stoppage here. The referee is mindful of
:54:26. > :54:33.making sure that he can get off. Looking a little bit uncomfortable.
:54:34. > :54:38.We'll have to wait and see if he gets better but he'll do it on the
:54:39. > :54:42.sidelines. I think it's a clash of heads first of all but then his legs
:54:43. > :54:43.just gets caught under the Huddersfield player and he twisted
:54:44. > :54:54.his knee. Don't forget, the draw for the fifth
:54:55. > :54:59.round of the Tetley Challenge Cup coming up right after we finish the
:55:00. > :55:03.commentary here. Lots of Challenge Cup ties taking place as we speak,
:55:04. > :55:11.and some have already taken place, of course. You can see all the
:55:12. > :55:16.action on Monday night at 11:55pm on BBC One HD in the north only, but
:55:17. > :55:27.across the nation on Tuesday lunchtime at 1pm on BBC Two HD.
:55:28. > :55:37.A little frustration for St Helens at the moment. This player is
:55:38. > :55:39.complaining they are not allowing him to play the ball. James Roby
:55:40. > :56:03.knocks it on. I think St Helens have been so
:56:04. > :56:14.dominant in the first 20 minutes, we haven't seen much of the Giants. A
:56:15. > :56:22.short pass by the usually impressive Brett Ferres.
:56:23. > :56:33.They're playing lateral at the moment, the St Helens defence. They
:56:34. > :56:38.were waiting for Crabtree. The try-line insight and Huddersfield
:56:39. > :56:42.have one more dig in this set. Robinson will put the kick towards
:56:43. > :56:46.the right-hand side. McGillvary has two reaching. The referee says it
:56:47. > :56:51.went backwards but I thought it went forwards onto the head of Swift.
:56:52. > :57:00.Lomax steps out of play and a dropout. A good little kick to
:57:01. > :57:07.finish the set off. Like you said, we're not having much change from
:57:08. > :57:18.the St Helens defence. This little kick for Chan. No option for Lomax.
:57:19. > :57:18.A good, cool kick in the end. That gives Huddersfield possession back
:57:19. > :57:31.again here. McGillvary has been in amongst the
:57:32. > :57:35.tries this season. Six times he's been over the whitewash, including a
:57:36. > :57:43.hat-trick in the opening game against Wigan. Often talked about as
:57:44. > :57:49.a potential England with the -- England winger in the build-up to
:57:50. > :57:52.the World Cup last year. Frustration for Brett Ferres because Wardlaw,
:57:53. > :57:57.having run in front of him, has given away the penalty. They've just
:57:58. > :58:05.got to make the hard yards. It just isn't happening for them.
:58:06. > :58:17.Seems to be the fashionable penalty of the season so far. S some news
:58:18. > :58:23.about Kyle a more. He has taken a bang to the left knee. He is trying
:58:24. > :58:39.to loosen the joint and hopes to get back on very shortly. -- Kyle Amor.
:58:40. > :58:51.Aid setback on the inside with Jordan Turner in support. -- a tip
:58:52. > :59:13.back. Jodie Broughton is dropping back.
:59:14. > :59:39.Broth again with a big searching kick downfield. -- Brough.
:59:40. > :59:45.The first interchange that Huddersfield have made in the game
:59:46. > :59:50.so far. This is good from Swift. An ankle tax from Danny Brough. A
:59:51. > :00:00.desperate tackle by Danny Brough. Had to be made.
:00:01. > :00:09.Just about got there. It hasn't stopped the momentum from St Helens.
:00:10. > :00:20.They are still troubling the Huddersfield defence. A couple of
:00:21. > :00:31.tackles still left to play. Robinson bumped in Medicare and there was
:00:32. > :00:39.almost an immediate apology. -- bumped in mid air. He will just get
:00:40. > :00:53.up and play on. Well done, Luke Robinson. He is a tough player.
:00:54. > :01:02.Jonny Lomax realised what he'd done. He could've had a card, but I
:01:03. > :01:10.think it's the right decision. And he just gets up. No dramas. Also a
:01:11. > :01:22.relieving penalty from Huddersfield's point of view.
:01:23. > :01:47.Back-to-back penalties here for Huddersfield. He pushes them over.
:01:48. > :02:00.Keep them guessing until the last moment of impact. He has made a gap
:02:01. > :02:13.for himself. Jonny Lomax does well to get across. Has he managed to
:02:14. > :02:25.make his way over? He doesn't know. Let's put it up to the video
:02:26. > :02:32.referee. Does Shaun Lunt get it down on the ground? We are checking. I
:02:33. > :02:40.think the camera from the side. We can't see there. There is nothing to
:02:41. > :02:47.show on Matt. It is very close. Yes, this one. Nice and slow, please.
:02:48. > :02:57.It's still up. Still up at this moment in time. We cannot see that.
:02:58. > :03:13.Have you got anything different? We can't see that. Have you got any
:03:14. > :03:25.other angles on Matt? -- on that? Another one, please. Did you see
:03:26. > :03:38.anything? It wasn't grounded when you got there? At this moment in
:03:39. > :03:41.time, we've got no proof it was grounded. That does not mean we can
:03:42. > :03:58.disallow it, but that has to be evidence. This one will probably be
:03:59. > :04:11.better. We are still waiting, we've not got the best replays. Nice and
:04:12. > :04:15.steady, nice and slow. There. The ball is on the ground and he wasn't
:04:16. > :04:21.pushed back because you can see years over the line with his body.
:04:22. > :04:35.Nice and steady, slow it down. Keep going. Keep going. I'm happy that
:04:36. > :04:45.his left hand is on the ball that. Yes, look, his hand is on the ball.
:04:46. > :05:03.That is a try, that. Definite try. Certainly benefit of the doubt. They
:05:04. > :05:06.will like that. They were giving him a slow handclap before because he
:05:07. > :05:21.was taking his time but they will be pleased with that. That was exactly
:05:22. > :05:39.what Huddersfield needed. I think it was a good try. So, Danny Brough to
:05:40. > :05:43.try to add two points. For all that St Helens was sparkling in the early
:05:44. > :05:56.stages of this game, there are only four points in it. You can see Jonny
:05:57. > :06:11.Lomax jumping. He saw the opportunity. You have to watch out
:06:12. > :06:15.when Shaun Lunt is around. I think Shaun Lunt had a similar try back in
:06:16. > :06:23.2009 which was disallowed, if I remember correctly. So, hard as
:06:24. > :06:36.field are back in the competition again. -- Huddersfield. Three good
:06:37. > :07:12.tries there, with good yardage. Never any intention is to challenge
:07:13. > :07:25.for that, it was all about pushing him back. That was a great set. That
:07:26. > :07:35.is a lot better, just the hard yardage made by the Huddersfield
:07:36. > :07:44.Giants forward. Just checking if there was a challenge midair. Is he
:07:45. > :07:52.in midair when he catches them. He tackles him before his feet come
:07:53. > :08:14.down. That is a penalty. They will not like this. St Helens fans love
:08:15. > :08:37.it because they a penalty. -- they have a penalty.
:08:38. > :08:53.This is just what we needed. It affect right from Shaun Lunt. -- a
:08:54. > :10:06.terrific try from Lunt. Here comes the sixth tackle with
:10:07. > :10:18.Danny Brough. Again, a corkscrew type kick. Just overcooked a couple
:10:19. > :10:28.of kicks, Danny. But he has been getting opportunities down the light
:10:29. > :10:31.-- the right-hand side. They have not given penalties away, they've
:10:32. > :10:51.kept on possession. They are back in again. Anthony Walker is fresh from
:10:52. > :10:58.the interchange bench. Paul Wellens, he is making his 100 and -- 168
:10:59. > :11:21.appearance today. That was very, very untidy. That was
:11:22. > :11:35.difficult. A clever little kick and the last tackle. Very awkward for
:11:36. > :11:42.Scott Grix. Paul Anderson is not looking happy, the Huddersfield
:11:43. > :11:49.coach. Scott Grix knows what the mistake was. He knows his side are
:11:50. > :12:18.under an awful lot of pressure as a result. St Helens are poised.
:12:19. > :12:35.Jonny Lomax is like an extra halfback. He plays the game so well.
:12:36. > :13:09.Huddersfield's ball. That is a big let off for the Giants.
:13:10. > :13:18.Look at this. Terrific. Scott Grix puts the kicked room. Jordan Turner
:13:19. > :13:33.just about get there. Thrilling stuff from the Huddersfield Giants.
:13:34. > :13:38.They are turning it up to try to keep St Helens penned down. This was
:13:39. > :14:04.horrific. -- terrific. Paul Wellens will be remembered as
:14:05. > :14:19.one of the great halfbacks of his generation.
:14:20. > :14:29.Aaron Murphy has not played since the third week of the season. Today,
:14:30. > :14:53.years getting a run in the centres. -- he is.
:14:54. > :15:04.Well taken and well met. Some high quality -- it is a high
:15:05. > :15:13.quality game so far today. The first of our Challenge Cup run.
:15:14. > :15:35.Nathan Brown hoping his side will be going all the way to Wembley. Lomax.
:15:36. > :15:38.That's a good run by Lomax. Here comes Wellens again. Grix has to
:15:39. > :15:54.field that ball in and run it back and do work he. Turner with an
:15:55. > :16:01.important challenge in the end. There is Bruff. Two tackles has
:16:02. > :16:07.taken Huddersfield back to within two tackles of the half-way line.
:16:08. > :16:13.Three takes them back inside St Helens territory. Here is Wood. Grix
:16:14. > :16:21.gets it on to Wood. Wood has to duck and dive, but keeps it alive. Out it
:16:22. > :16:30.goes to that right-hand side. He just held on. This is Robinson.
:16:31. > :16:34.Murphy. Murphy reaching for the line. He doesn't quite get there.
:16:35. > :16:42.They have gone the length of the field in five beats of the drum, but
:16:43. > :16:56.here comes the last. Robinson's quick. Wardle will score.
:16:57. > :17:00.Huddersfield get their second try and it is all square with half-time
:17:01. > :17:04.looming. That was a great, great try. What a turn around in the last
:17:05. > :17:29.15 minutes. Good yardage and then they've gone wide. What an exception
:17:30. > :17:38.kick to finish this set. Great play. Great support. That's a lovely ball.
:17:39. > :17:45.That's the forward pass. Grix again. This is the finish. It is a pinpoint
:17:46. > :17:55.kick. It is easier to get above the defender. A brilliant try.
:17:56. > :18:10.He likes his composition, Joe Wardle.
:18:11. > :18:29.The kick from Danny Brough is successful.
:18:30. > :18:35.We have got a minute of the first-half remaining and when St
:18:36. > :18:41.Helens led with 14 minutes gone, the expectations where there of a big, b
:18:42. > :18:45.score in Saints favour. The way the game started, but Huddersfield have
:18:46. > :18:50.dug deep and got themselves not just back into the competition, but
:18:51. > :18:53.ahead. They are too good a side, the Giants. When they are good, they are
:18:54. > :19:00.very, very good, but when they're bad, you know, they seem very, very
:19:01. > :19:05.flat and that was the case in the first 10 or 15 minutes. Now, it is a
:19:06. > :19:10.totally different side. St Helens have got a job on here to
:19:11. > :19:17.try and keep this Huddersfield enthusiasm boxed up and they are
:19:18. > :19:26.helped by the knock on. There is only about nine seconds left to
:19:27. > :19:32.play. Again, they have done very well going down the right-hand side.
:19:33. > :19:39.Tremendous, tremendous first-half. It is a game of two halves in the
:19:40. > :19:47.first-half. Huddersfield dominated in the second 20.
:19:48. > :19:53.What's your assessment of the way Huddersfield fought back? Fantastic.
:19:54. > :19:57.I think the boys ripped in at the back in. They started to tire a
:19:58. > :20:03.little bit. They were winning the battle, but as the game went on,
:20:04. > :20:08.hopefully the energy will bite them in the back side later on. Paul
:20:09. > :20:19.Wellens is with me. Are you disappointed the way you let
:20:20. > :20:21.Huddersfield back in? It is tough and tight. We're still in from with
:20:22. > :20:33.a chance and we'll keep fighting. Jonathan Davis said it at the end of
:20:34. > :20:36.that first-half, it has been a half of two halves. There are your match
:20:37. > :20:55.facts: Paul and Brian in the studio, what
:20:56. > :21:00.do you make of the comment at the end, Paul, that St Helens started
:21:01. > :21:05.with verve that maybe they tired themselves? That's how it looked, it
:21:06. > :21:10.was a half of two quarters. Saints came out of the blocks and stormed
:21:11. > :21:13.into a lead, but looked to tire as Huddersfield grew and grew in
:21:14. > :21:17.confidence as well. They started bumping off the tackles and St
:21:18. > :21:21.Helens have got themselves back into the game. Jonathan made the point in
:21:22. > :21:35.commentary that Huddersfield due to the interchange benefited? I thought
:21:36. > :21:41.David Faiumu and Bailey made a huge difference to the Huddersfield. They
:21:42. > :21:45.made a lot of yardage and the confidence grew. They were back in
:21:46. > :21:50.the game and it is a different game. If Saints started with more verve
:21:51. > :21:58.and vigour, they started the kicking game which is something we discussed
:21:59. > :22:02.pre-match between Walsh and Brough? Smart play to get the foot out and
:22:03. > :22:09.catch the ball, but we spoke about the kicking game of both these two
:22:10. > :22:14.beforehand, you know, this kick from Danny Brough was the wrong side of
:22:15. > :22:23.the post. Big players for the teams at the right time and this led to
:22:24. > :22:28.Saints first try. It did. Luke Walsh took it into the first try for St
:22:29. > :22:34.Helens. Yes, they got their field position through that kick. It was
:22:35. > :22:40.important they had to capitalise on that with a sketchy start from
:22:41. > :22:43.Brough's kicking game. Luke Walsh highlights the people coming off the
:22:44. > :22:56.sideline and having a go at Huddersfield. Luke Robinson and
:22:57. > :23:03.Jason Chan don't work together. It is a great pass in itself to make
:23:04. > :23:07.this to Swift because he is out there on the back. Jermaine
:23:08. > :23:14.McGillvary was coming in to stop the play. With having a genuine half
:23:15. > :23:18.back, he is not the kind of player that likes directing play. He is
:23:19. > :23:25.more of a running man and having Luke Walsh in the side allowed him
:23:26. > :23:30.to do that. Do you think he was duly criticised because of a lack of a
:23:31. > :23:33.partner? He played full-back and hooker and he played seven and he
:23:34. > :23:38.played six. It is difficult to find out where he wants to end up and
:23:39. > :23:44.now, at six, with Luke, in the team it allows him to just play his own
:23:45. > :23:48.game. Let's look at the Walsh/Brough head-to-head. Tackles are fairly
:23:49. > :23:53.even. More kicking from Danny Brough. Would you expect that,
:23:54. > :23:57.Brian, I suppose you would? The last half a dozen kicks were clever kicks
:23:58. > :24:01.and concise kicks. We have seen ourselves he started the game a
:24:02. > :24:05.little bit poorly in relation to the standard of how he kicks the ball.
:24:06. > :24:08.Once he started kicking the ball well and they highlighted where they
:24:09. > :24:14.were going, they looked a different team. I can't emphasise enough the
:24:15. > :24:19.emphasis of David Faiumu. He beat the St Helens defender and gave them
:24:20. > :24:24.a ruck win so they could play quicker and it made a huge
:24:25. > :24:28.difference to Danny Brough's kicking game. Do you think they needed to
:24:29. > :24:31.settle a bit, the Huddersfield players, they are the home side,
:24:32. > :24:36.they know they have had a difficult start, they just needed to settle?
:24:37. > :24:43.It was going to be a fast start to the game. Saints came out of the
:24:44. > :24:47.blocks really taking it to them. Maybe that bit of fatigue set in
:24:48. > :24:50.after the 20 minute period and Huddersfield just found their feet
:24:51. > :24:55.in the game and as they got more and more into the game, the confidence
:24:56. > :25:06.grew which gives you more energy anyway. We had a perfect of Saints
:25:07. > :25:12.second try from Tommy Makinson. Walsh is the arc tegt.
:25:13. > :25:25.-- architect. Look at the number of blue shirts. We are highlighting Tom
:25:26. > :25:35.Makinson. You have not to let them get there. You have Roby and
:25:36. > :25:43.Makinson, but that was a fabulous try. It was a distinctive finish.
:25:44. > :25:49.Jonathan Davis, whatever he said before the show. I imagine if you
:25:50. > :25:53.were coaching kids, you would be furious!
:25:54. > :25:57.Put it down wi two hands. Huddersfield got themselves back
:25:58. > :26:03.into it. We wouldn't have guessed 10-8 at half-time, would he? I
:26:04. > :26:17.mentioned to Paul, I thought they were passive, but Robinson
:26:18. > :26:23.highlights one of the players. The threat is where the ball is Lomax
:26:24. > :26:32.has gone to get into position. Lance Hohaia has gone away. There is
:26:33. > :26:38.opportunity for Shaun Lunt. Smart play from Lunt, but Saints
:26:39. > :26:45.will be happy about their marking of defence. If you were coaching kids,
:26:46. > :26:51.don't turn your back? A full-back doesn't want to get caught. You want
:26:52. > :27:00.to deal with your media and it is easy to say from the commentary box,
:27:01. > :27:04.but great spot from Shaun Lunt. The momentum was with Huddersfield? I
:27:05. > :27:07.thought Huddersfield were a little bit passive and Saints were
:27:08. > :27:14.happening to them, but the game changed. The momentum changed and
:27:15. > :27:22.this kick exemplifies it. The kicks weren't perfect and there is great
:27:23. > :27:27.competition and sometimes they go your way and sometimes they don't,
:27:28. > :27:36.that's with a kick from Brough that puts Huddersfield in front. Brough
:27:37. > :27:42.pulled us out of it there. Every time the kicks were missed, we
:27:43. > :27:45.looked at each other going, "Did we really big them up at the start?"
:27:46. > :27:50.Let's look at the match stats from the first 45 minutes.
:27:51. > :27:54.There is not much between the lead, not much between any of those stats,
:27:55. > :28:04.is there, let's be honest? What we see of Brough who is doing all the
:28:05. > :28:08.work in relating to tackling. 14 is indication of how they are trying to
:28:09. > :28:12.get to Lance Hohaia. Most points kicked, you can't separate the
:28:13. > :28:18.teams. There is a lot and this game is finely balanced. Paul Wellens
:28:19. > :28:26.summed it up, they have got us to the back end of the half and we have
:28:27. > :28:31.to regroup and do what we were doing well. Warmsly winning the ruck and
:28:32. > :28:36.working Huddersfield and going to the fringes, they will want to go
:28:37. > :28:39.back to that. I will ask you both, what both sides need to do in the
:28:40. > :28:46.second half shortly. Both coaches will be earning their money at
:28:47. > :28:50.half-time. One man who is able to relax during our Challenge Cup
:28:51. > :28:57.coverage is that man, Ray French. He has his BBC jacket on. He will be
:28:58. > :29:00.doing work for local radio as well this afternoon. He will be giving
:29:01. > :29:06.his thoughts to somebody there. Once he gets going, he is away. Let's
:29:07. > :29:18.treat you to some of his Challenge Cup thoughts.
:29:19. > :29:29.My first ever trip to Wembley for a Challenge Cup final was in 1953. My
:29:30. > :29:36.dad's friends had arranged for a steam train to take all the workers
:29:37. > :29:40.down to the match. Saturday morning, Buckingham Palace, Leicester
:29:41. > :29:47.Square, Piccadilly. Finally, we got to Wembley. Saints with a red-hot
:29:48. > :29:55.favourites. But Huddersfield did them. The problem was a halfback
:29:56. > :30:01.called Peter Ramsden. He actually celebrated his birthday at that
:30:02. > :30:08.match. His two tries really put Huddersfield on the way to victory.
:30:09. > :30:14.His first was probably one of the most contentious tries ever scored
:30:15. > :30:28.at Wembley. To this day at St Helens it is still referred to as a double
:30:29. > :30:37.movement. It was level, ten apiece with five minutes to go. Peter
:30:38. > :30:44.Ramsden did it again. At the end of the match, I cried my eyes out. My
:30:45. > :30:54.dad said, don't worry. You'll be back, and you'll win. And I was, and
:30:55. > :30:58.I did. Beautiful. Plenty more of those memories throughout the
:30:59. > :31:00.season. This is what is happening in the fourth round of the cup at the
:31:01. > :31:38.moment. That fifth round draw follows the
:31:39. > :31:45.full-time whistle at Huddersfield. You will find out who your site gets
:31:46. > :32:03.at the conclusion of this game. You can see all the highlights on the
:32:04. > :32:08.Super League show. Looking at that dressing room, what
:32:09. > :32:12.will Nathan Brown be saying? I think he will be telling them to get back
:32:13. > :32:20.to what they were doing in the first 20 minutes. In defence, get the
:32:21. > :32:28.aggression back. Stop getting bumped up by the Huddersfield players. How
:32:29. > :32:34.difficult is it to get back the momentum when you start with it and
:32:35. > :32:39.then you lose it? I think half time is good for them. They can regroup
:32:40. > :32:45.and have a breather and hopefully start the second as they started the
:32:46. > :32:51.first. And what about Paul Anderson? I assume he will tell them more of
:32:52. > :33:04.the same. You took the words out of my mouth. They just need to promote
:33:05. > :33:07.the ball to the fringes better. Not waiting the St Helens to come
:33:08. > :33:17.towards them. Take different stride patterns. All bets are off because
:33:18. > :33:24.both teams will be starting again this second half and putting their
:33:25. > :33:28.plans into place. Quite often the media overhyped the slightest thing,
:33:29. > :33:40.but given how they've started this season, how big a 40 minute is this
:33:41. > :33:49.for Huddersfield? Obviously this will be massive for their season. It
:33:50. > :34:00.is one of their main targets this year. They have struggled with the
:34:01. > :34:05.expectation of being shield winners. It is that trapdoor element of this
:34:06. > :34:13.conversation. You cannot afford to make any mistakes. There is a lot of
:34:14. > :34:21.expectation on St Helens as well. But they've dealt with that over the
:34:22. > :34:25.years. But this is a new team with a new halfback partnership. They've
:34:26. > :34:32.won seven games and they haven't been under pressure like this.
:34:33. > :34:40.Saints are out, they are still waiting for Huddersfield to come
:34:41. > :34:46.out. How did the conversation go at half-time? I think we are pleased
:34:47. > :34:50.with how we started the game. In the first 20 minutes we were on top. I
:34:51. > :34:55.think we really let the speed of the game fall in Huddersfield's favour
:34:56. > :34:59.and by the end, they were controlling the speed. They were
:35:00. > :35:06.playing the ball very quickly and that caused problems. We need to get
:35:07. > :35:21.control back. What is needed to break big aim" Mac we need to take
:35:22. > :35:37.opportunities. -- what is needed to break the game? We need to take
:35:38. > :35:44.opportunities. It is drizzling slightly, I'm not sure how that will
:35:45. > :35:49.affect things. Off we go. It should be a cracking second half between
:35:50. > :35:53.two sides of high pedigree who have produced some really good moments
:35:54. > :36:25.but also moments they would rather forget at times.
:36:26. > :36:34.A very good finish to a very efficient opening set for
:36:35. > :36:39.Huddersfield Giants. What a difference to the start of the first
:36:40. > :36:56.half. Robinson just puts a little kick in. Luke Walsh is going to
:36:57. > :37:03.feed. What happened in the Huddersfield dressing room at
:37:04. > :37:09.half-time? Well, Paul Anderson described it as too heavyweight
:37:10. > :37:13.boxers going toe to toe. Keep turning over the ball, make sure
:37:14. > :37:15.we're playing in their half of the pitch. Pressure, but enjoy it as
:37:16. > :37:40.well. I don't think Kyle and more is going
:37:41. > :37:47.to be carrying on. He had bad knee injury in the first half, remember.
:37:48. > :38:40.-- Kyle Amor. That is a shame. St Helens is being forced to work
:38:41. > :38:53.hard from deep inside their own territory. Anderson will be happier
:38:54. > :39:00.with these sets and how they have completed them. It was a knee
:39:01. > :39:08.problem in the first half, it looks more like a chest problem for Kyle.
:39:09. > :39:17.Or I think this might be the GPS system they are applying. That kick
:39:18. > :39:24.was blocked. Definitely another set of six. As I was saying, they have
:39:25. > :39:29.little bumps on their shoulder Blades. Those GPS systems tell the
:39:30. > :39:41.coaching staff everything that is going on. Heart rates, speed, what
:39:42. > :39:51.they are doing. I think it hurt his ribs. Huddersfield are
:39:52. > :39:59.congratulating themselves for having forced a fumble. A good start,
:40:00. > :40:53.pressurising their opponents. The referee gives a penalty for
:40:54. > :41:00.Huddersfield. He is on the floor. I think the tackle was complete,
:41:01. > :41:11.wasn't it? The tackle goes Huddersfield's way. A burst of
:41:12. > :41:19.expectation from Huddersfield fans. You feel there is more to come here.
:41:20. > :41:44.They are only a couple of yards away from the line. Where is he going?
:41:45. > :41:52.Still going. A good effort. Jason Chan bouncing on the balls of his
:41:53. > :42:06.feet. At least two tackles in the bag to go for Huddersfield. And St
:42:07. > :42:10.Helens have possession back again. They had the numbers on the
:42:11. > :42:21.right-hand side but just could not release the ball. A missed
:42:22. > :42:25.opportunity there for the Giants. What it reflect from Jordan Turner.
:42:26. > :43:06.-- what a terrific pass. Last tackle in this set. Should be
:43:07. > :43:29.easy, and it was. Don't think Walsh is going to be too happy with that
:43:30. > :43:37.kick. Not enough height, very easy. Eorl Crabtree is the longest serving
:43:38. > :43:38.player by a long way. He used to be a safety steward at this season. You
:43:39. > :43:49.wouldn't argue with him, would you? Some of the other scores there at
:43:50. > :44:38.the top of the screen. St Helens is trailing by two points,
:44:39. > :44:51.having started so strongly in this game.
:44:52. > :45:08.Walsh putting it high. There is a little bit of a stumble there. Grix
:45:09. > :45:12.has come up with it in the end. They will be happy with that,
:45:13. > :45:16.Huddersfield Giants. Again, not a threatening kick by Luke Walsh. It
:45:17. > :45:41.put Huddersfield in the corner. Danny Brough is behind the 40 meter
:45:42. > :45:46.mark. He is not happy with that, is he? No. Getting the defensive line
:45:47. > :46:00.in place. The 1953 Cup Final, the Peter
:46:01. > :46:05.Ramsden final, the last time Huddersfield won this competition,
:46:06. > :46:08.this year, they were in finals, when they were beaten by St Helens in
:46:09. > :46:15.2006 at Twickenham and Warrington in 2009 at Wembley, but it has been a
:46:16. > :46:19.long time between cheery drinks for Huddersfield in terms of that
:46:20. > :46:33.competition. They won the League Leaders' Shield for the first time
:46:34. > :46:50.in over eight decades. Another good pass from Wellens.
:46:51. > :46:57.It is Josh Jones '42nd consecutive game. Grix is underneath it. Oh, it
:46:58. > :47:04.is an awkward bounce. It is going to be taken. Manu, has he squeezed in?
:47:05. > :47:10.The referee is Hague alsecond look. No, he is not going to give it. He
:47:11. > :47:14.is always going to go to the video referee, isn't he? Well, he is going
:47:15. > :47:27.to have a word with the touch judge first.
:47:28. > :47:34.The referee decides that he is going to offer it upstairs. On side, off
:47:35. > :47:37.side. Here is Ian Smith, the video referee.
:47:38. > :47:48.UMPIRE: It is from the kick. If you can pause it on his foot so we can
:47:49. > :47:57.pause it there. Right, so we've got Lomax down here. These three, yes.
:47:58. > :48:03.Run it through. OK. Lomax stays out. So just go back again to the kick,
:48:04. > :48:09.please Ken. Let me track the players again. Just go back to the kick
:48:10. > :48:15.again. Just pause it on his foot there. Right, so number 22 and
:48:16. > :48:26.number 9 are in front so run that through, please. So where does he
:48:27. > :48:34.run? He runs. Pause it there. That's him waiting for the ball. Yes. Just
:48:35. > :48:39.make sure that he is in front. One more. One more frame, please. Go
:48:40. > :48:56.forward. He is within 10. It is a no try penalty. No try penalty. He is
:48:57. > :49:02.within ten meters. Well, no try. It is the rule. It is probably the most
:49:03. > :49:10.frustrating rule in rugby league. The law is an ass frankly. He might
:49:11. > :49:15.have been about 9.5 yards. Ian Smith gets it spot on and had he not
:49:16. > :49:20.disallowed the try, he would have made the wrong decision. It is to
:49:21. > :49:25.the letter of the rule, but if ever a rule needed changing. I mean, what
:49:26. > :49:29.interference did he have? None whatsoever. 11 minutes of the second
:49:30. > :49:38.half played. Huddersfield are in the lead by 10-8.
:49:39. > :49:50.There is no certainty. Here come Huddersfield. Jones comes in to make
:49:51. > :50:05.the tackle on Chan. Here is Craig Kopczak. The short
:50:06. > :50:13.pass. That's a great line there looking for the off load. Just
:50:14. > :50:19.nearly. Instead, it is St Helens who hand it back.
:50:20. > :50:26.Lomax. It is tight and tense. There is two points in it. The middle
:50:27. > :50:39.section of this second half is looming large now. St Helens are
:50:40. > :50:47.making descent ground here. They have got a couple of tackles to play
:50:48. > :50:54.with. Roby looks to t left-hand side. There wasn't a gap.
:50:55. > :51:09.Walsh is the specialist. A high kick from Makinson.
:51:10. > :51:13.Luke Walsh has gone too far on the last two or three occasions. It is
:51:14. > :51:16.difficult for the outside backs though.
:51:17. > :51:52.Four tackles gone. Huddersfield are still inside their own half. Brough.
:51:53. > :51:57.Now Chan. Chan coming back on the angle, Walmsley snuck in there to
:51:58. > :52:07.make the challenge. That's a good kick. A very good kick from that
:52:08. > :52:10.position. Well, Anderson is happy to compete in these sets. Where they
:52:11. > :52:18.are finishing, he wants to play the game in the St Helens quarter. That
:52:19. > :52:26.being the case for the first 14.5 minutes. You can't get much more
:52:27. > :52:35.balanced than that, can you, territory? A thoughtful Paul
:52:36. > :52:40.Anderson. Here is Roby. Who do you fancy from here? How do you see this
:52:41. > :52:45.unfolding? At the moment, you have to say that momentum and the control
:52:46. > :52:49.of the game is with the Huddersfield Giants, but we know how quickly that
:52:50. > :52:52.can change in this game. They are two quality sides of the discipline
:52:53. > :52:58.has been good in the second half as well. They haven't just - oh, I said
:52:59. > :53:04.that. Commentators curse! That's what will happen, we haven't had an
:53:05. > :53:08.easy penalty where they have given field position. This is the first
:53:09. > :53:13.opportunity. How sloppy that is. That's the difference, small, small
:53:14. > :53:17.margins and the difference. Now they will have field position. Well, it
:53:18. > :53:21.is still raining and the sun is out as well. There will be a rainbow
:53:22. > :53:27.somewhere at the end of it and the pot of gold is a Wembley Final. And
:53:28. > :53:35.these two sides will fancy their chances of going to, but win today
:53:36. > :53:41.is the first big task. Roby rolling into that half-back position again.
:53:42. > :53:46.Here is Walsh offering it in to young Alex Walmsley. Alex Walmsley a
:53:47. > :53:58.product of the Championship. There is one or two knocking about in
:53:59. > :54:04.Super League now. Alex Walmsley caught the eye of a number of clubs.
:54:05. > :54:11.He could have had the pick of six or seven, but chose St Helens.
:54:12. > :54:17.This is Hohaia. Walsh. Forward by Greenwood. This is the last now. So
:54:18. > :54:22.on to Walsh again. The kick. Broughton will fancy his chances. It
:54:23. > :54:27.is another simple one. You could see he was angry with himself, Walsh. He
:54:28. > :54:35.was shouting at himself. It is too easy for the Huddersfield to stop
:54:36. > :54:53.that movement. That's a little bit too far.
:54:54. > :55:02.Walmsley is not able to get out of the way and it is incumbent for him
:55:03. > :55:19.to get out of the way. It now gives Huddersfield field position. Brough.
:55:20. > :55:27.Craig Kopczak. Robinson gets the pass away and here comes Grix.
:55:28. > :55:30.Support there. Finish by Lunt. I don't think he has been back on the
:55:31. > :55:44.field that long, has he? Oh, hang on. Hang on!
:55:45. > :55:51.REFEREE: Time off. Obstruction is what they're looking at. This looks
:55:52. > :55:56.like an obstruction, please. Let's hear from Ian Smith the sole
:55:57. > :56:00.arbiter. REFEREE: We're looking for
:56:01. > :56:08.obstruction. Does he catch the ball on the outside? He does. Can you jog
:56:09. > :56:13.that one back, please? Runs across. So nice and slow this, please. Nice
:56:14. > :56:18.and slow. So the angle that the lead runner is coming through there. He
:56:19. > :56:21.is running the right angle. Does the man catch the ball on the outside
:56:22. > :56:24.shoulder? He does. He goes through the gap. There is nothing wrong with
:56:25. > :56:31.that. If you can go to the grounding, please.
:56:32. > :56:38.Just run this through. Yes. Yes, we're happy with that. He grounds it
:56:39. > :56:45.fine. That's a try. That's a brilliantly executed try.
:56:46. > :56:55.Brilliantly executed try. A dummy run of Chan. Great support by Lunt.
:56:56. > :57:01.Well, he had a nervous afternoon, hasn't he, Shaun Lunt? Twice he will
:57:02. > :57:06.say Ian Smith has got it right because he got two out of three in
:57:07. > :57:13.his favour. And that might be a big, big moment here because it is a six
:57:14. > :57:20.point gap all of a sudden. And if Brough kicks this, an 8 point gap
:57:21. > :57:24.and that is a two score difference. It means that St Helens would have
:57:25. > :57:32.to score twice to get themselves back in the lead and over it goes.
:57:33. > :57:38.Over it goes from Brough. 16 points to Huddersfield. 8 for St Helens.
:57:39. > :57:46.Are they inching closer here, Huddersfield, to a place in the next
:57:47. > :57:57.round? The timing of his run which releases Grix. Backing up on the
:57:58. > :58:03.inside as all good number 9s. Jason Chan deserves a slice of that cake.
:58:04. > :58:09.That's how you run a dummy run. It is very, very important, the dummy
:58:10. > :58:14.run of Chan created that opening from which a try was scored. How
:58:15. > :58:20.much does St Helens have to show now? We've got to get back on top.
:58:21. > :58:23.They will be disappointed, Luke Walsh with the last few kicks. We
:58:24. > :58:29.have got to take the opportunities and we finished with good kicks that
:58:30. > :58:37.get points or repeat sets. It is a touch by a St Helens hand.
:58:38. > :58:40.It is back. If he carried on in the direction he was going, there was an
:58:41. > :58:55.obstruction just developing. Kopczak was just ahead of him.
:58:56. > :58:58.Remember St Helens scintillating this season, seven wins out of seven
:58:59. > :59:05.and they have been magnificent within that run as well, but today,
:59:06. > :59:13.Huddersfield who have been up and down are very much on the up.
:59:14. > :59:28.Robinson. He tracked him all the way. Tracked him down. As Paul
:59:29. > :59:33.said... Walsh and off he goes. Grix just managed to flick his boot,
:59:34. > :59:34.otherwise Walsh would have gone the distance. Then there is a little bit
:59:35. > :00:23.of a disagreement. Lovely ankle tap. Now it will be a
:00:24. > :00:30.penalty. He didn't do anything wrong, did he? I didn't think there
:00:31. > :00:31.was much in that. I'm not sure what Jermaine McGillvary was guilty of
:00:32. > :00:56.there. 30 metres out. St Helens have five
:00:57. > :00:59.tackles to go. Huddersfield need to hang on in this set. They do not
:01:00. > :01:20.want to give their opponents any opportunity.
:01:21. > :01:39.A cluster of defenders there. Never much risk of going much further.
:01:40. > :01:49.Penalty! Offside, they were. Six tackles to have a real go at the
:01:50. > :01:56.Huddersfield line. They have slowed the play of the ball down.
:01:57. > :02:10.Huddersfield are working overtime on their own line.
:02:11. > :02:25.Penalty for St Helens. They have to keep their composure. I don't think
:02:26. > :02:35.it makes much of a distance. -- difference. Danny Brough complaining
:02:36. > :02:47.there is inconsistency in the refereeing. There we go, ten
:02:48. > :02:52.penalties to five. The last thing Huddersfield need is for Daniel
:02:53. > :03:26.Brands to get into an altercation with the referee. -- Danny Brough.
:03:27. > :03:44.He has gone on his head. This is where it takes off. Well, it looked
:03:45. > :03:51.nasty, didn't it? This could be crucial. This could be a card or
:03:52. > :03:57.report. I think he's OK. He got up and reacted to the tackle, but it
:03:58. > :04:06.was a silly, dangerous tackle. A ridiculous tackle. Jonny Lomax
:04:07. > :04:17.where's the head guard because of a very nasty injury as a schoolboy.
:04:18. > :04:26.That is very, very dangerous. It was as a result of that injury that all
:04:27. > :04:35.schoolboys now wear helmets. It is a red card! Huddersfield are down to
:04:36. > :04:49.12! You have to say, you cannot complain with that. I have no idea
:04:50. > :05:01.what was going through his head. He could've just held it up for enough
:05:02. > :05:23.time not to drop him on as head. -- his head. Such a dangerous tackle.
:05:24. > :05:24.He looks to be OK though. A big hole in the Huddersfield defence line
:05:25. > :05:50.now. Huddersfield fans trying to get
:05:51. > :05:59.behind their side, to lift their team, if they can. And Tommy
:06:00. > :06:07.Makinson seems to do that every week! He loves the spectacular, and
:06:08. > :06:15.he's done it again. Second of the day before Tommy Makinson. St Helens
:06:16. > :06:29.are back in the game. A moment of madness by Brett Ferres, and Tommy
:06:30. > :06:36.Makinson get in at the corner. He is an absolutely sensational finish. I
:06:37. > :06:44.think it was Turner that created this opportunity. He takes to
:06:45. > :06:56.defenders with a one-handed off-load. They are a man short on
:06:57. > :07:05.the left-hand side, and he made them pay. What a season he is having,
:07:06. > :07:21.Tommy Makinson. Eight appearances, ten tries. Walsh has nailed the
:07:22. > :07:29.kick. 16 points for Huddersfield but now St Helens have 14 of their own.
:07:30. > :07:38.Brian. A great finish but Walsh deserved a slice of the cake as
:07:39. > :07:59.well. And take your hat off to Turner.
:08:00. > :08:11.We spoke earlier to Paul Sculthorpe... Oh, there will be a
:08:12. > :08:17.knock-on. We talked earlier about the character St Helens have to
:08:18. > :08:24.show, but now it is the character Huddersfield will have to show. They
:08:25. > :08:30.need to control the ball and finished their set and try to get a
:08:31. > :08:39.repeat set. If they don't get points, they play the clock down
:08:40. > :08:41.with a repeat set. 11.5 minutes to play and Huddersfield still have the
:08:42. > :09:21.lead, but they are a man short. Now it is the turn of St Helens to
:09:22. > :09:35.hang on here. They cannot afford to concede points.
:09:36. > :09:46.Craig Kopczak dropped it. It would've been difficult stop him. He
:09:47. > :10:23.was nearly there. Ten minutes of the contest remaining
:10:24. > :10:24.and it remains unsettled. Just as we expected here today, to quality
:10:25. > :10:53.teams. -- two. St Helens were involved in a very
:10:54. > :10:55.tight game last week against Leeds and they scored in the final moments
:10:56. > :11:38.to clinch it. The fifth round draw coming right
:11:39. > :11:56.after this. But we could yet have extra time here. We've seen one of
:11:57. > :12:24.those already this weekend. On Thursday night the score was 37-36.
:12:25. > :12:34.Both sides just getting a bit of oxygen in the tank again here.
:12:35. > :12:49.Huddersfield clinging on by their fingertips at the moment.
:12:50. > :13:01.The defence is getting lazy now, gaps are opening up. Turner puts the
:13:02. > :13:12.kick ahead. Turner has got the tackle in. Huddersfield will face an
:13:13. > :13:23.onslaught in this next set. They are looking tired. A big set to come.
:13:24. > :13:32.Huddersfield will be trying to slow things down as much as they can
:13:33. > :13:50.here. 33 tackles for Earl Crabtree today. Top of the list. Five tackles
:13:51. > :14:35.to go from Penalty for St Helens! Nagin Brown
:14:36. > :14:44.immediately says kick for goal, because this is surely unmissable. I
:14:45. > :14:52.would take the two points, make it level on the scoreboard.
:14:53. > :15:07.They don't have to chase the game then. Danny Brough having a chat
:15:08. > :15:12.with the referee again here. He is clearly not happy with that
:15:13. > :15:18.decision. So just to remind you, we are not getting too far ahead of
:15:19. > :15:25.ours ourselves because you would expect Luke Walsh to kick this. Five
:15:26. > :15:30.minutes of play, but if it stays all square after 80 minutes we go into
:15:31. > :15:35.extra time, but it is golden points. So whoever scores first, at whatever
:15:36. > :15:43.stage of that extra time, they will win the game. If we get there.
:15:44. > :15:51.Walsh has done the first job. It is 16 for Huddersfield, 16 for Saints
:15:52. > :15:56.Saints. St Helens. Not many nails will survive these next few minutes.
:15:57. > :15:57.This is all about field position, you know. It is all about field
:15:58. > :16:12.position. Danny Brough looking for the
:16:13. > :16:18.touchline if he can find it. Oh, it is a testing kick. Tas terrific kick
:16:19. > :16:22.from -- it is a terrific kick from Danny Brough. Forces the drop out
:16:23. > :16:28.underneath the sticks which means that Huddersfield should, again all
:16:29. > :16:33.things being equal, should nb a drop goal -- in a drop goal position.
:16:34. > :16:39.That's all they have to do is get the dropped kick. Get field
:16:40. > :16:44.position. Five drives. As near to the post as they can get. Well,
:16:45. > :16:50.Danny Brough's boots in the first-half that swung the momentum
:16:51. > :16:56.and then that restart and it has given Huddersfield a chance. Will
:16:57. > :17:02.they go for a drop goal on the fourth or fifth tackle? If they
:17:03. > :17:09.score a try, of course, that settles it. Bailey keeping that position.
:17:10. > :17:13.All eyes on Brough, where is he? He will go for it early. Danny Brough,
:17:14. > :17:22.he never got it off the ground. He never got it off the ground.
:17:23. > :17:30.Oh, a big tackle. A big tackle. He went early there, didn't he? He went
:17:31. > :17:34.very early. Well, if you are in the position, he might as well.
:17:35. > :17:43.Huddersfield have been involved in two draws this season against Hull
:17:44. > :17:47.Kingston Rovers and here. Brough is here again. He is going to have
:17:48. > :17:57.another go. Again, it is charged down. I don't know why... Paul
:17:58. > :18:04.Wellens this time. Plenty of time to have another crack at it. Will it be
:18:05. > :18:09.third time lucky? Here is Lunt. Brough. We don't want
:18:10. > :18:15.Brough taking the ball in. He is not going to go for the drop goal here,
:18:16. > :18:21.is he? Not from there, he is not. Here goes Lunt. A try would finish
:18:22. > :18:25.it. Just take it in. Here is Bailey. There is two-and-a-half minutes to
:18:26. > :18:30.go. They have gone blind. Lunt spin it is away. He has got the chance.
:18:31. > :18:38.Can't get it off the ground again. It is another set of 6. This is
:18:39. > :18:44.where they need composure. Here comes Brough once more. Brough away.
:18:45. > :18:48.A tackle on Chan. Hohaia is hanging on. Brough again with the dummy.
:18:49. > :18:55.Here goes Bailey. Held up by the way. Three tackles gone here. Three
:18:56. > :19:06.to go. They're going to go early again. Hard they doing? -- what are
:19:07. > :19:11.they doing? Back to Chan. Just go mid-field and go. Here it comes.
:19:12. > :19:18.This time it is off the ground! He turns away and celebrates. He missed
:19:19. > :19:22.it. He missed it. He was celebrating and the referee says it has gone
:19:23. > :19:31.wide. Danny Brough was convinced that has gone over and the referee
:19:32. > :19:36.says, "No, it didn't." What about that? What about that?
:19:37. > :19:41.That's over. That's over. I think that's over.
:19:42. > :19:47.That will be a talking point. That will be more than a talking point.
:19:48. > :19:51.From that angle, it is not over. Over the top of the post, it is a
:19:52. > :19:55.dropped goal, isn't it? It would count. But that hasn't counted. It
:19:56. > :20:02.remains all square. St Helens are right up there now. Fourth tackle.
:20:03. > :20:08.Walsh with a dropped goal. First time for him. No mistake, he nailed
:20:09. > :20:14.it. That's how you do it. This time the referee's arm is lifted. The
:20:15. > :20:20.Huddersfield fans are disgusted. The St Helens fans are jubilant. 17-16
:20:21. > :20:24.with 40 seconds left to play. There might be another twist here!
:20:25. > :20:30.That's a great kick that is. Under pressure, nails it.
:20:31. > :20:38.Great kick. Keeps his composure. He flustered it.
:20:39. > :20:42.So here we go. Last 24 seconds. A big hit as they try to dislodge the
:20:43. > :20:51.ball there from Lunt. Hohaia is going to take his time. This is
:20:52. > :20:53.where there is too much experience to think about the pass. St Helens
:20:54. > :20:57.are going through unless Huddersfield can produce a miracle.
:20:58. > :21:07.There is five seconds to go. This is the next one. Hohaia runs it away.
:21:08. > :21:10.They want the penalty. They want the voluntary tackle, but the referee is
:21:11. > :21:14.turning a deaf ear to that. As the hooter signs, he blows the whistle.
:21:15. > :21:20.It is the end of the game, but it is not the end of the inquest. There's
:21:21. > :21:24.going to be a lot of debate and talk after that. They would have to have
:21:25. > :21:28.a looked at the dropped goal to see if it was over. He was convinced.
:21:29. > :21:31.That was not over. From two different angles, it is difficult to
:21:32. > :21:44.see. There is the man who makes the call and that's it. What a finish.
:21:45. > :21:49.The stewards are helping down there. Danny Brough was convinced he kicked
:21:50. > :21:54.that dropped goal. The moment it left his boot he was away
:21:55. > :21:59.celebrating, but the referee said no and the try is not given. The goal
:22:00. > :22:03.wasn't given rather. Again, it would be interesting to
:22:04. > :22:11.look at where the ball was when it crossed the post. As I understand
:22:12. > :22:19.it, there you are, he celebrated, "I've got it. We've won." Disbelief
:22:20. > :22:26.because the referee says, "You missed it, Danny."
:22:27. > :22:36.It is difficult to see where the ball actually... Your Man of the
:22:37. > :22:41.Match today? Luke Walsh. Well, it is for the dropped goal really, it is
:22:42. > :22:46.Luke Walsh. Just composure to nail the game. For the dropped goal, that
:22:47. > :22:51.was it. Luke Walsh. What a way to start the Challenge
:22:52. > :22:59.Cup coverage this year. It will be interesting to see where exactly the
:23:00. > :23:02.ball was. If it went, well a it looked inside. The question is,
:23:03. > :23:09.where did it drift outside? You can't change the result. Luke Walsh
:23:10. > :23:13.the Man of the Match is with Damien Johnston. What an extraordinary
:23:14. > :23:20.finish. Tell us about the dropped goal that won it? That's my job to
:23:21. > :23:25.put them over. It was a great effort from the boys. We dug in deep in the
:23:26. > :23:32.second half. It is great to get a win. Big controversy at the end.
:23:33. > :23:36.Danny Brough thought he won t it, what was your view? I thought it
:23:37. > :23:40.went over too. It was really nip and tuck. It was a heck of a game? It
:23:41. > :23:46.was a good game. It was a tough game to play in. I'm over the moon that
:23:47. > :23:52.we got the win. There are so many young players? There is a lot of
:23:53. > :23:55.talent here. We haven't put in a better performance that, we were a
:23:56. > :24:02.bit off today. We have to be better than that. Well done, Luke. Danny
:24:03. > :24:05.Brough is here, the Huddersfield, captain, commiserations, you clearly
:24:06. > :24:10.felt that dropped goal went over? Yes, 100%, that's what I was
:24:11. > :24:19.frustrated about. You get them calls. It happens too often in
:24:20. > :24:24.games. The referees get calls wrong. We can see it in the big screen.
:24:25. > :24:30.Just talk us through what happened. Well, I've kicked it high because
:24:31. > :24:37.I've been charged down and it just keeps rising. I don't understand.
:24:38. > :24:41.You had several chances before that. Was it perhaps a lack of composure?
