:00:40. > :00:50.Hello and welcome to our coverage of the 2016 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. We
:00:51. > :00:54.are in Yorkshire, where last night holders Leeds were knocked out. Our
:00:55. > :00:59.game this afternoon is Castleford Tigers Salford. The final is at the
:01:00. > :01:03.end of August. We have no idea who is going to win this magnificent
:01:04. > :01:12.trophy. It is going to be fun though finding out.
:01:13. > :02:08.This is what we want. It produces great memories every
:02:09. > :02:11.season. Last season was no different. And we get under way with
:02:12. > :02:16.our Challenge Cup coverage this year at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle under
:02:17. > :02:23.beautiful blue skies. The sun is out. It is probably not the weather
:02:24. > :02:28.for wearing a cuddly Tiger on your head. It is more weather for an ice
:02:29. > :02:34.cream or even a pint. Castleford Tigers Salford is our main fare this
:02:35. > :02:41.afternoon. Plenty of Challenge Cup pedigree. Brian Noble is with us.
:02:42. > :02:46.And alongside Brian we have the Widnes head coach and England
:02:47. > :02:51.assistant coach Denis Betts, who has great pedigree in this cup, winning
:02:52. > :03:01.the Lance Todd Trophy in 1991 as Wigan beat Saints. Happy memories?
:03:02. > :03:07.Yes. Always. The Challenge Cup always brings the memories flooding
:03:08. > :03:18.back. Do you talk to your current squad about these and the -- duvet
:03:19. > :03:23.goal, shut up, coach?! I want to create our own history and run
:03:24. > :03:29.memories. We want to put your questions to our team. John Wilken
:03:30. > :03:33.joins us later. Maybe you want to talk to Brian, the new Don of
:03:34. > :03:39.Canadian elite. We will have plenty to talk about. And also we have got
:03:40. > :03:43.a very special thing for you this year. We will give you the chance to
:03:44. > :03:48.be on the pitch at Wembley for the Challenge Cup final as part of a fan
:03:49. > :03:54.squire to sing abide with me. We have teamed up with songs of praise
:03:55. > :04:00.to give you the chance. That gives you the chance to turn some of our
:04:01. > :04:09.team into choirboys. B3 unlikeliest choirboys ever. Doesn't John Wilken
:04:10. > :04:13.look happy to be part of that trio?! That is the fun and games over.
:04:14. > :04:20.Let's concentrate on the Challenge Cup. Two games yesterday. Catalan
:04:21. > :04:25.Dragons winning easily add badly. They put 40 points on the board. The
:04:26. > :04:33.story though came at Huddersfield as they beat Leeds. The holders are
:04:34. > :04:38.out. You were there, Brian Noble?
:04:39. > :04:43.Huddersfield leaders and their win. They were incisive. A bit more
:04:44. > :04:51.presence. They have got some really good players. The game was
:04:52. > :04:54.practically won here. That was icing on the cake. Danny Brough had a
:04:55. > :05:04.terrific game. Problems continue for Leeds. Can you understand the
:05:05. > :05:07.problems through Leeds? Yes, there are lots of circumstances. Things
:05:08. > :05:10.have happened this year with the weather and the training ground.
:05:11. > :05:17.They went to the home of the Huddersfield Giants, a great side
:05:18. > :05:21.themselves. It was a big ask. The danger is not to give the victors
:05:22. > :05:29.any credit. Huddersfield have had a rough start. What a springboard that
:05:30. > :05:33.could be for them? Yes, their structure was good. They played very
:05:34. > :05:39.well. You cannot get carried away. They have had distractions. Ten
:05:40. > :05:44.people not featuring that would normally feature. Everybody is
:05:45. > :05:49.talking about the loss of Jamie Peacock and Gary Sinfield. They knew
:05:50. > :05:52.about that. Please give credit to other fields. They were strong. I
:05:53. > :05:58.thought some of their individual performances were very exciting. The
:05:59. > :06:04.holders going out as well. That will be a fillip to every team. It is a
:06:05. > :06:09.great competition this year. When you look at the table and you see
:06:10. > :06:14.how close teams are, everybody feels they have a chance of achieving
:06:15. > :06:20.something. It is a very tight table. Leeds rock bottom. Brian McDermott,
:06:21. > :06:27.last night, still talked about getting to the Grand Final as an
:06:28. > :06:32.ambition. Can you understand that? He is very optimistic. You have to
:06:33. > :06:39.win 12 games on the bounce. It is not like it used to be. They might
:06:40. > :06:44.make the eight. But to catch the top four to get into the semifinals is a
:06:45. > :06:51.huge task. I do not think it can be done. Did home advantage help
:06:52. > :06:56.Huddersfield last night? Huddersfield were at home, weren't
:06:57. > :07:02.they? I checked out Headingley first before I went to work for radio
:07:03. > :07:05.five. I saw a distinct lack of people there so I thought, I might
:07:06. > :07:16.need to get to Huddersfield in time for kick-off. So you didn't go to
:07:17. > :07:18.the wrong ground? Kind of! Move on! Let's concentrate on the Challenge
:07:19. > :07:42.Cup games still to come. We will bring you St Helens against
:07:43. > :07:47.Hull live on BBC. Shall we take a look at the teams
:07:48. > :07:55.involved today? Castleford Tigers Salford. Dave Woods has their
:07:56. > :07:58.Challenge Cup history. Castleford Tigers Mac first
:07:59. > :08:09.Challenge Cup success came in 1935 with a narrow victory over
:08:10. > :08:13.Huddersfield. Three years later Salford put the misery of four cup
:08:14. > :08:18.final defeat behind them to finally lift the trophy, their only cup
:08:19. > :08:22.success to date. It was not until the 60s that both teams rallied
:08:23. > :08:35.again. In 1969 they met in the final. Castleford beat Wigan the
:08:36. > :08:44.following year. Barren years followed but in 1986 they were back.
:08:45. > :08:51.Castleford Tigers runners-up twice since. A fifth cup triumph still
:08:52. > :08:57.eludes them. Could 2016 be their year here is this a Salford side set
:08:58. > :09:02.to savour success? Salford fans and their owner coming
:09:03. > :09:09.to this game with a sense of injustice. They were deducted six
:09:10. > :09:14.points in Super League for a breach of a salary capped. The owner will
:09:15. > :09:23.take this further and try to challenge it. Can you understand the
:09:24. > :09:27.injustice? If you are caught with your fingers in the tail, the league
:09:28. > :09:33.has to do something. I'm sure there are reasons how and why it happened.
:09:34. > :09:35.That is for a Salford to put the case forward. The league have
:09:36. > :09:41.examined it. They have investigated it. They have to punish the club.
:09:42. > :09:46.How they punish the club is given down in the rules. Wigan were
:09:47. > :09:53.punished in 2007. That was a four point deduction. Bradford went into
:09:54. > :09:58.administration in 2012 and the RFL toughened up those rules to make the
:09:59. > :10:04.punishment greater. As a coach, can you use the injustice to motivate
:10:05. > :10:08.your players? Certainly, yes. If your back is against the wall and
:10:09. > :10:13.you feel the world is against you, it is a motivator. But when you get
:10:14. > :10:19.going, when you get really into the game, once the collisions start, it
:10:20. > :10:22.becomes about the game. I think Castleford feel they have their
:10:23. > :10:26.backs against the wall when you look at the team they are putting out.
:10:27. > :10:32.They will feel their back is against the wall. We have got to sides with
:10:33. > :10:39.a lot to play for. The other argument in this case, whether they
:10:40. > :10:43.have been guilty or not, they have been found guilty, the other
:10:44. > :10:48.argument centres around the punishment, whether first something
:10:49. > :10:55.that happened in 2013 or 2014, this team should be punished? I do not
:10:56. > :11:01.know how you get over that. What do you do to punish retrospectively?
:11:02. > :11:04.Does not make any sense. People in Bradford were advocating they should
:11:05. > :11:12.not be in the Super League because of what they did. We have seen in
:11:13. > :11:16.the Super League in Australia 18 was docked and fined. That is a kick in
:11:17. > :11:25.the backside. There are other punishments. Maybe some quarters
:11:26. > :11:29.feel they got away lightly. It is the players who get the injustice
:11:30. > :11:32.but it is the club that is being punished. The club has made its
:11:33. > :11:36.call. The administration has done things it should not have done. The
:11:37. > :11:42.people who suffer are the supporters and the players playing at the
:11:43. > :11:44.current time. Here are the players, courtesy of
:11:45. > :11:50.Brian, representing Salford this afternoon.
:11:51. > :11:58.What an unbelievable back three. Justin Carney, the powerhouse. A
:11:59. > :12:03.long-awaited debut for Daniel Vidot. Unbelievable form from the two giant
:12:04. > :12:14.fast and explosive centres Sa'u and Josh Jones. Robert Lui and the
:12:15. > :12:21.explosion that Mac adding explosion on pace to his game and the ever
:12:22. > :12:24.controlling Michael Dobson. Craig Kopczak, a recent signing from
:12:25. > :12:31.Huddersfield, companies fillip jokes about George Griffin in the front
:12:32. > :12:36.row. And a Superbike three. Murdoch-Masilla and how Raaqy
:12:37. > :12:42.exploding onto the fringes, orchestrated by Mark Flanagan. --
:12:43. > :12:52.Raaqy. Off the bench Jordan Walne and Niall Evalds. Adam Walne another
:12:53. > :12:57.local product companies Olsi Krasniqi, a recent signing from the
:12:58. > :13:01.London Broncos. Warming up just below me, Robbie
:13:02. > :13:03.Hunter Paul is in the thick of it. He will tell you how they are going
:13:04. > :13:08.to play. I have to keep out of their way.
:13:09. > :13:15.They have got some big boys. One of the team of 2016, I will see if I
:13:16. > :13:21.can get Craig Kopczak. How have you guys prepared? Really well. We are
:13:22. > :13:30.looking forward to it. We want to play a fast tempo. Will you try to
:13:31. > :13:35.run over the top of Castleford? We have got good players on the edges
:13:36. > :13:39.in Vidot and Carney. Looking to mix it up a little bit. Just as Craig
:13:40. > :13:45.said, some brilliant players and some big players. None more so than
:13:46. > :13:51.this man, Justin Carney. An absolute beast when he is carrying the ball.
:13:52. > :13:55.A very good centre of gravity, very strong in the tackles. Scores tries
:13:56. > :14:00.for fun. He has got a bit of a mongrel in him as well. Definitely
:14:01. > :14:08.one to watch. When the ball gets out wide, keep your eyes on him.
:14:09. > :14:13.It is very difficult to miss him! It will be very easy for us to keep our
:14:14. > :14:22.eyes on him. A man who was adored at the Jungle, no longer the case.
:14:23. > :14:30.Dave Woods. You have to be brave to mention Justin Carney around West
:14:31. > :14:40.Yorkshire. But the Aussie winger was once a Castleford folk hero, scoring
:14:41. > :14:43.63 tries in 62 appearances. But after a highly publicised fallout
:14:44. > :14:50.with team-mates he was shown the door. Castleford's loss was
:14:51. > :14:55.Salford's game, with the Red Devils snapping him up. Six tries already
:14:56. > :15:00.this season, including a double in a fiery return to Castleford, he is
:15:01. > :15:03.proving invaluable. He recently pledged his long-term future to
:15:04. > :15:09.Salford by signing a three-year deal. When he walks out today he can
:15:10. > :15:13.expect another hostile reception. Given he is going to get a hostile
:15:14. > :15:31.reception, Denis Betts, if you were his coach what would you say? You do
:15:32. > :15:35.not change Justin Carney. You let him be himself. He has proven over
:15:36. > :15:47.the last few years that he is a devastating winger. You have to let
:15:48. > :15:51.that little mongrel lose. A little bit of mongrel, that is the way he
:15:52. > :15:56.plays. He'll stab at your ankles, he will challenge you, he will be in
:15:57. > :16:01.your face, you will get the ball close to the line. He will not
:16:02. > :16:04.change, he cannot change. That is an interesting dilemma for a coach. Are
:16:05. > :16:11.you giving one rule for one player and another for another? Not at all.
:16:12. > :16:14.You do not bring a player in and expect him to be something else.
:16:15. > :16:21.They brought a player with certain attributes. He brings certain
:16:22. > :16:27.things. He is a fantastic rugby league player. He is a pain in the
:16:28. > :16:36.side. He cheers people out, get onto the ball, he is fantastic. If you
:16:37. > :16:43.word Daryl Powell, -- if you word Daryl Powell... You stick him in the
:16:44. > :16:48.ribs and you might say something in his ear. He will not change. People
:16:49. > :16:52.are drawn to this game because of the dynamics of the challenge. He
:16:53. > :16:56.wants to challenge all the time. I would say do not aggravate him too
:16:57. > :17:01.much. Do not get on top of him too much. Let him fade away from the
:17:02. > :17:07.game and try not to get as much ball as he wants. Promise me when you go
:17:08. > :17:16.to Canada you will not poke a beer -- bear with a steak! Moose! They
:17:17. > :17:20.have an unbelievable right side. Carney will show up anywhere. It
:17:21. > :17:30.takes three or four people all the time. You see the big right, he
:17:31. > :17:33.shoves it in somebody's face. Another four players to bring him
:17:34. > :17:39.down. The key to this game is not just his progress, there are right
:17:40. > :17:43.side is full of explosive players, full of players that you have got to
:17:44. > :17:53.be on top of your game to try to get on top of them. There is Sa'u
:17:54. > :17:58.looking for an opportunity on the back of Carney trying to help as
:17:59. > :18:04.well. Look at the size of this guy. You have to be on your game. Carney
:18:05. > :18:15.with the finish. What a fabulous right side they have got.
:18:16. > :18:24.Murdoch-Masilla, see you later. Nie A level is, the local product
:18:25. > :18:30.finishes the play. -- Nile levels. What challenges do they provide
:18:31. > :18:39.defensively? The threat is all over the field. Gareth O'Brien has really
:18:40. > :18:48.matured as a full-back. He is able to link, he can pass the ball and
:18:49. > :18:54.not just be a runner. Gareth O'Brien is a runner and a passer. There is
:18:55. > :19:00.one thing about the Salford team we have not touched upon. They are
:19:01. > :19:11.running with a front row player who has played a little bit as Hawker.
:19:12. > :19:19.They could suffer today because of that? That is a huge point Dennis
:19:20. > :19:25.makes. Tomkins is suspended. Tommy Lee is suspended. They have a young
:19:26. > :19:30.kid they have decided not to use. The number nine recognises defensive
:19:31. > :19:35.shapes in front of him. They will lose that ability today. Castleford
:19:36. > :19:43.Tigers. Awful injury problems. These are the players representing them
:19:44. > :19:47.this afternoon. Ryan Hampshire is an explosive
:19:48. > :19:56.runner. Monaghan and Solomona are world-class stars. Ben Crooks, a
:19:57. > :20:01.local product, back at his hometown club alongside the powerhouse, Jake
:20:02. > :20:07.Webster. Here is the challenge for Castleford. Grant Millington and
:20:08. > :20:09.Paul McShane, a Hawker and a front row given the task of directing the
:20:10. > :20:29.team around the field. Their back three, immensely talented
:20:30. > :20:37.at off-loading. Nathan Massey, and Mike McMeeken. Let's talk about Luke
:20:38. > :20:45.Gale, will not be playing. He is missing. Another blow in a long list
:20:46. > :20:49.of blows? It is a massive blow. He has been playing exceptionally well.
:20:50. > :20:54.He has been a big part of their kicking game. He pushes them around
:20:55. > :21:01.the field, he gives them lots of direction. Losing him is a big blow.
:21:02. > :21:09.We thought he might play. Now he isn't. It could be one of those late
:21:10. > :21:14.injuries, we don't know. It might be a hamstring. Millington and McShane
:21:15. > :21:22.have to do a job. Paul McShane will have more dexterity than Millington.
:21:23. > :21:28.They will keep their game plan very simple against this Salford team.
:21:29. > :21:34.Daryl Powell is cute. He will be looking to manufacture some
:21:35. > :21:39.one-on-one opportunities. Luke Dorn, was part of the interchange, is not
:21:40. > :21:41.playing. He has been replaced by Danny Tickle. You must be pulling
:21:42. > :21:49.your hair out midway through the season? Backs against the wall
:21:50. > :21:55.mentality. There is no use arguing about what you have not got. You
:21:56. > :22:04.have to work with what you have got. This is a team running with 29s.
:22:05. > :22:08.Lots of movement out of the ruck. Millington will be more of a runner
:22:09. > :22:14.than a passer. He is a good passer. They will play the passing game. We
:22:15. > :22:20.were talking about how hard it is, with a small squad, to bring people
:22:21. > :22:23.in. Wigan and Leeds and Saints may have academy players ready to go,
:22:24. > :22:29.but for the smaller clubs that is not the case? You shuffle your hand.
:22:30. > :22:36.You have got a team that has been shuffled around. We have been there
:22:37. > :22:41.ourselves a couple of times this season. You have got somebody
:22:42. > :22:45.training all year and then he pulls something during the week. They have
:22:46. > :22:53.got pretty good replacements, Castleford. The challenges that the
:22:54. > :22:58.two people they have got are not halves and they need haves.
:22:59. > :23:04.Absolutely gorgeous conditions here at the Meadows. A perfect condition
:23:05. > :23:10.for us to see some of that classic Castleford play. If they get their
:23:11. > :23:15.opportunity they can play in waves. One of the men leading them around
:23:16. > :23:21.the park today is the number ten, Grant Millington. How have the boys
:23:22. > :23:26.prepared? Obviously we'd lost Luke Gale so it has been quite tough. We
:23:27. > :23:34.have trained well. We have simplified things and made it really
:23:35. > :23:38.good. I think we can still score some points. As long as we defend
:23:39. > :23:48.well we are in with a chance. The very best of luck.
:23:49. > :24:01.Lee Jewitt, great off-load. He will try to keep the ball alive. They
:24:02. > :24:03.will want to get the off-load going, then the second grade players will
:24:04. > :24:08.come through. Millington will release the ball to players with the
:24:09. > :24:16.finishing power, the likes of Ben Crooks, Joel Monaghan, who we know
:24:17. > :24:22.is an absolutely brilliant finisher. We have also got this man, the man
:24:23. > :24:28.of the moment, Dennis Solomona. Scoring tries for fun. He has scored
:24:29. > :24:33.more tries than he has played games. Absolutely dynamic. He can pull out
:24:34. > :24:38.of the tackles, great core strength, great ability.
:24:39. > :24:41.He is one to watch. Thank you very much, Robbie. We will talk more
:24:42. > :24:49.about Solomona in a minute. Nice of you to join us. Did you realise we
:24:50. > :24:57.were on air at two? I knew what time we were on, I have been training
:24:58. > :25:01.today! We are going to make sure that you
:25:02. > :25:08.work between now and five. Let's look more at Dennis Solomona. He has
:25:09. > :25:17.added more to his game. What has he added? I think he is more composed,
:25:18. > :25:21.and excellent finisher. He comes off his left foot, his right foot. He
:25:22. > :25:28.has got himself a decent partnership with Jake Webster that allows him to
:25:29. > :25:31.do this kind of thing. Raw speed is an asset in this game and he has got
:25:32. > :25:37.raw speed, with footwork and strength. In a team struggling for
:25:38. > :25:42.confidence, it speaks volumes that he has scored so many tries. He
:25:43. > :25:46.creates space around him. His role finishing ability this year has been
:25:47. > :25:51.exceptional. He is really learning his trade. It is not just about
:25:52. > :25:58.having fast people. It is about technical position. He is an
:25:59. > :26:04.athlete. His balance, the way he can move, he is a player. He is
:26:05. > :26:13.athletic, skilful and he is a great asset. You can have raw speed but
:26:14. > :26:17.there has to be more to it. It is coaching that. You get somebody like
:26:18. > :26:22.that who is athletic and gets the game instinctively, you work on the
:26:23. > :26:29.details. That is why he is a better player.
:26:30. > :26:35.Let's here from the coaches. Darryl, how big a blow not to have Luke Gale
:26:36. > :26:40.available? You do not want to lose your half-backs. That is obvious. It
:26:41. > :26:45.is what it is. We trained really well yesterday without him. We just
:26:46. > :26:49.get on. We have got a number of players missing. Regardless, we have
:26:50. > :26:53.got a good team and we have to deliver a performance. It will be
:26:54. > :26:57.tough today. Salford are a good team in decent form. We have to play well
:26:58. > :27:03.and if we do we give ourselves a chance. How good would a cup run be
:27:04. > :27:06.for you guys? It would be massive. We have looked forward to this. We
:27:07. > :27:13.want to have a really good crack at this. We have had an horrendous
:27:14. > :27:17.injury one. 1213 players missing at times. We have had to change
:27:18. > :27:22.training sessions. There is point complaining. It is a contact sport.
:27:23. > :27:31.We are in an OK place. We need a win. We are in a sport where results
:27:32. > :27:37.matter massively. This is a knockout competition. If you do not win
:27:38. > :27:43.today, that is the end of you. How have the team reacted to the 6-point
:27:44. > :27:47.deduction? We are all positive, we know what we want to achieve. We are
:27:48. > :27:52.leaving that with the owner to deal with. It is up to him and his
:27:53. > :27:57.solicitors. We are focusing on the rugby. All of the boys are positive.
:27:58. > :28:03.They have worked really hard, it must have been a blow? It was a big
:28:04. > :28:07.disappointment when we first heard. But within minutes people said, it
:28:08. > :28:13.is what it is. We deal with what we can control, which is the rugby side
:28:14. > :28:17.of things. Justin Carney got a yellow card on his return last time.
:28:18. > :28:22.Have you had a quiet word with him to hold his temper? He is a good
:28:23. > :28:27.lad. He knows what he did wrong last time. It was the first time he came
:28:28. > :28:32.back, it was a different experience. Hopefully he has grown and matured
:28:33. > :28:38.from that. Hopefully we will not see yellow cards today. Is he growing
:28:39. > :28:47.and learning as a coach? Tony Smith took him under his wing with
:28:48. > :28:51.Warrington. I know Mark Flanagan really well. He speaks highly of
:28:52. > :28:57.him. As all coaches do, you develop and learn. He has got the best out
:28:58. > :29:00.of some players at Salford. That is the biggest piece of credit you can
:29:01. > :29:06.give him. Salford move the ball more than anybody else. They didn't half
:29:07. > :29:13.give it to us at the beginning of the season. Do you feel Castleford
:29:14. > :29:19.have got their work cut out this afternoon? I think we're in for an
:29:20. > :29:24.exciting game. One team with loads of confidence, they want to a point.
:29:25. > :29:28.Another side with some adversity, they want to play, they want to
:29:29. > :29:33.score points, it is their home ground. The beauty of it is that at
:29:34. > :29:39.the moment in Super League, every game is difficult to call? If I was
:29:40. > :29:45.a gambling man I would probably favour Salford. Their form has been
:29:46. > :29:52.pretty good. Their style of football... I like this ground.
:29:53. > :29:53.Castleford like this ground. The atmosphere brings out something in
:29:54. > :30:02.everybody. They know how to crank up the
:30:03. > :30:08.atmosphere. There is Daryl Powell, as he takes a deep breath. Both sets
:30:09. > :30:20.of teams come out here at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle. Were Salford the
:30:21. > :30:27.hardest side you have played this season? They are the most
:30:28. > :30:30.challenging. They have big men, and when you combine power and the
:30:31. > :30:34.ability to move the ball it makes them dangerous. A top quality side.
:30:35. > :30:39.Well, kick-off is just a couple of minutes away here as we begin our
:30:40. > :30:47.Ladbrokes Challenge Cup coverage for 2016. We will be with our commentary
:30:48. > :31:02.team very shortly indeed. Before we do, we will pay tribute to a rugby
:31:03. > :31:07.league legend. It is fitting we are in Castleford today, the birthplace
:31:08. > :31:14.of the Rugby League legend Roger Millward who died this week aged 68.
:31:15. > :31:18.He was a giant for Hull KR who have retired his number 6 shirt as a mark
:31:19. > :31:26.of respect this week and he was a giant of the sport.
:31:27. > :31:35.Roger Millward was one of the game's greats, for club and country.
:31:36. > :31:39.Arguably his greatest game was his last, the 1980 Challenge Cup final
:31:40. > :31:47.for Hull Kingston Rovers against Hull. A broken jaw in the 13th
:31:48. > :31:50.minute couldn't stop him producing a captivating performance.
:31:51. > :31:56.COMMENTARY: He is going to have a dab. I thought he might have a drop
:31:57. > :32:01.and he does. Ten years earlier, he had inspired a
:32:02. > :32:06.Test series win for Great Britain against the old enemy, Australia.
:32:07. > :32:12.COMMENTARY: Millward is in for a beautiful try. A man so tiny, he
:32:13. > :32:18.could be so big on a pitch, and yet he could be so modest in what he
:32:19. > :32:24.did. COMMENTARY: Millward! We have lost
:32:25. > :32:32.another superstar. I'm going to miss him. He was one of my best mates.
:32:33. > :32:38.One of my best friends. Being a little lad growing up in Castleford,
:32:39. > :32:40.he had arrived at the pinnacle of his sport. If you love a thing
:32:41. > :34:17.enough, you will get on with it. COMMENTARY: As ever, the Rugby
:34:18. > :34:21.League family coming together to remember one of the greats and Roger
:34:22. > :34:26.Millward's ex-team-mates from Castleford and Hull KR are here
:34:27. > :34:30.today, all four sides of the ground applauding for that minute's
:34:31. > :34:39.tribute. It's Castleford against Salford, the 2016 Challenge Cup, and
:34:40. > :34:43.your commentary team this afternoon are here.
:34:44. > :34:46.COMMENTARY: The challenge is for these two teams to play in the
:34:47. > :34:53.spirit of Roger Millward. That is the way they are lining up today.
:34:54. > :35:01.Castleford injury problems. McShane at scrum-half is a hooker. It is
:35:02. > :35:06.swap and change about for Cas. Salford give a delayed debut to
:35:07. > :35:10.Daniel Vidot, he has finally recovered from a shoulder injury.
:35:11. > :35:18.That is a big pack as well. It will be interesting to see if the giant
:35:19. > :35:28.Phil Joseph plays out of dummy half. There is our referee today, a late
:35:29. > :35:33.change, James Child taking charge. It's a grand day down the Lane, but
:35:34. > :35:37.on who does the Challenge Cup sunshine shine brightest today? It
:35:38. > :35:42.will be Salford who get the first touch of the ball, the first chance
:35:43. > :35:45.to test the resolve of this Castleford pack, so let's hear from
:35:46. > :35:52.the two men alongside me, Jonathan Davies? It is an exciting game. It's
:35:53. > :35:56.a great game to come and play. A fantastic atmosphere. You are going
:35:57. > :36:03.to play an open, attractive game with Cas. I agree with the boys in
:36:04. > :36:10.the studio. The pack have to lay a good platform to get moving around
:36:11. > :36:17.the field. Flanagan has taken it to the 30-metre mark. John? It will be
:36:18. > :36:21.interesting to see how long it stays out there and what the replacement
:36:22. > :36:27.is round about 15 or 20 minutes' time. The bright orange, if you
:36:28. > :36:32.like, of Castleford here, against the darker colours of Salford and a
:36:33. > :36:37.chance for Ryan Hampshire to bring it back, the man on loan from Wigan.
:36:38. > :36:41.Has claimed to be a stand-off but has played most of his time in the
:36:42. > :36:47.full-back position. It will be a huge challenge for Phil Joseph to
:36:48. > :36:53.get to every tackle, I think. He is used to playing prop. It will be
:36:54. > :36:56.difficult for him. There are all kinds of connotations as to how it
:36:57. > :37:03.might swap and change as the game goes on. It's a fascinating tussle
:37:04. > :37:08.here. It is not beyond the stretch of any imagination that one of these
:37:09. > :37:12.two sides could be gracing the Wembley final in August. They have a
:37:13. > :37:19.very good chance if they negotiate this one today.
:37:20. > :37:25.That is one of the problems Castleford will have. Luke Gale is
:37:26. > :37:30.the main kicker within the Castleford team. He's missing today,
:37:31. > :37:33.McShane comes in with his left foot kick and it was a bit indifferent to
:37:34. > :37:38.start with. He will need to settle into that and he will need to have a
:37:39. > :37:42.good kicking game. It's a small field and normally Castleford do
:37:43. > :37:48.know how to keep this ball on this field. McShane's influence in that,
:37:49. > :37:55.and Hampshire's will be vital. Making his 100th career appearance
:37:56. > :38:00.today, Paul McShane. Leeds, Hull, Widnes, Wakefield among his previous
:38:01. > :38:11.clubs. A lift for Salford here with a penalty. Poor discipline and now
:38:12. > :38:16.easy field position. I agree with John, the kicking aspect. The
:38:17. > :38:23.kicking, especially in the last tackle, it will be crucial. Joseph
:38:24. > :38:29.the man at dummy half, inside of him is a pass from Dobson to Kopczak,
:38:30. > :38:35.who is wearing the mic today, so we will be hopefully hearing some of
:38:36. > :38:39.those secrets on the pitch, at half-time, full-time and tomorrow as
:38:40. > :38:46.well. Joseph, the man, Dobson again now, options right and left. Rob Lui
:38:47. > :38:53.will be such an influence today. Salford are creeping closer. Joseph.
:38:54. > :38:54.Flanagan. Dobson. The boy's been dropped and Castleford have some
:38:55. > :39:03.relief. Griffin ran a great angle. Here's
:39:04. > :39:07.the mistake. I don't think he was ready for it. The ball was going to
:39:08. > :39:11.go in front of him, but if you are on the rugby field, you have to be
:39:12. > :39:17.prepared for the ball to come to you. A missed opportunity for
:39:18. > :39:25.Salford. Interesting to see Salford as well, they have Vidot on the
:39:26. > :39:29.right side and Josh Jones in the right centre and interesting to see
:39:30. > :39:36.the dynamics of that. It is a massive backline. Daniel Vidot looks
:39:37. > :39:42.almost tiny in that company next to Josh Jones. You wonder what is going
:39:43. > :39:49.through the mind of Daniel Vidot, and also you wonder what is going on
:39:50. > :39:55.through the mind of Danny Tickle, he is on the bench. That is a ball
:39:56. > :39:59.steal. Danny Tickle, if the kicking game isn't going way, Danny Tickle
:40:00. > :40:08.is a very good kicker out of hand. They might put him on.
:40:09. > :40:13.There is Danny Tickle, jogging to relieve some of those butterflies,
:40:14. > :40:17.I'm sure, before his eventual involvement. It is a small pitch
:40:18. > :40:20.here, John. That is very important for any team who play here, you have
:40:21. > :40:23.to manage the distance. The lines are not even because it is not quite
:40:24. > :40:30.100 yards. You are defending very quickly on a pitch like this? You
:40:31. > :40:37.certainly are. You attempt to use more midfield kicks and Castleford
:40:38. > :40:41.are very astute at putting the ball high and putting pressure on the
:40:42. > :40:48.Salford recipients. Great pressure here for Castleford. Crooks is
:40:49. > :40:52.tackled. A little step by Mike McMeeken. One of several who have
:40:53. > :40:56.come through the London route in rugby league these days. Jewitt with
:40:57. > :41:05.a step, but he is going to be held up. But close. Adam Milner at dummy
:41:06. > :41:12.half. He is going to go himself here. They had him ready and
:41:13. > :41:16.waiting. Kopczak with the tackle. McShane with the kick. Vidot can
:41:17. > :41:20.watch it go out of play. It is the weight of the kick. You don't want
:41:21. > :41:24.to put it dead because if you catch it in goal, you know, if you get the
:41:25. > :41:28.ball back, that is the problem, but we talk about the size of the pitch.
:41:29. > :41:32.That is where discipline is so important. Wherever you get a
:41:33. > :41:36.penalty on this pitch, you could be on the front foot. And also,
:41:37. > :41:45.Jonathan, with that indifferent kick from Paul McShane, it has gifted
:41:46. > :41:50.them a 20-metre tap. You don't have to tell us, do you, that it is
:41:51. > :41:52.Justin Carney. The Castleford fans identified him there. Justin Carney
:41:53. > :42:02.back to his wing on that left-hand side. Salford working this right
:42:03. > :42:06.side with Lui, to Murdoch-Masilla, Josh Jones, the giant, a former
:42:07. > :42:12.Saint playing at centre for Salford. Equally at home in the back row as
:42:13. > :42:18.well. Kopczak. One tackle to go in this set. Joseph flicks it left.
:42:19. > :42:21.Dobson puts it high. There is a test here, Monaghan is usually very good
:42:22. > :42:26.under the high ball and proves that is the case again. That is the
:42:27. > :42:30.perfect kick. Monaghan fielded the ball. As he fielded it, they tackled
:42:31. > :42:34.him and that is one tackle of the six gone. Also, if you are a Salford
:42:35. > :42:40.kicker, you don't want to be putting the ball up to Monaghan and
:42:41. > :42:51.Solomona, they are big winners. They have to target Hampshire. After two
:42:52. > :42:56.giant steps by the giant Junior Moors he is beyond the 40-metre mark
:42:57. > :43:02.on this tiny pitch. Adam Milner in at dummy half. Jewitt again. He is
:43:03. > :43:04.off on a journey at the end of this year, he is going to Australia,
:43:05. > :43:19.isn't he? McShane. He puts it high. Castleford's chase is good enough.
:43:20. > :43:27.No pressure on the full-back there from the high kick. Easy take for
:43:28. > :43:40.O'Brien. They are feeling each other out at the minute, aren't they?
:43:41. > :43:50.Wait for the boos, and Carney takes them on and ducks through. He loses
:43:51. > :43:54.his footing. Sa'u making a hole and Junior Sa'u is over again! They
:43:55. > :43:59.cannot stop him scoring at the moment, Junior Sa'u. That is a
:44:00. > :44:05.great, great burst from Sa'u. From a kick play of the ball by Carney, and
:44:06. > :44:12.he shot out of the blocks. Great, great evasive skills, got on the
:44:13. > :44:16.outside and no chance at all for Hampshire. He runs at the forward
:44:17. > :44:23.and once he gets through, no stopping him. Jonathan you picked it
:44:24. > :44:27.out. He got his nose through the defensive line, played it quickly,
:44:28. > :44:32.it wasn't a set defensive line and Junior Sa'u picks up, changes the
:44:33. > :44:36.ball carrying hand there so he's got the right hand to fend if required.
:44:37. > :44:40.He didn't need it and over in the corner for a very good try from
:44:41. > :44:44.Junior Sa'u. It was Millington who was getting back there. He is a
:44:45. > :44:49.front-row forward, so it's going to be difficult for Millington, he will
:44:50. > :44:52.have the ball-in-hand a lot more. He will be tired. That is a brilliant,
:44:53. > :45:05.brilliant finish by Junior Sa'u. He comes into this game on the back
:45:06. > :45:08.of a couple of hat-tricks. Two successive hat-tricks, Junior Sa'u.
:45:09. > :45:12.He has scored seven tries in three games. This one is only a few
:45:13. > :45:14.minutes old. Confidence is a fantastic thing. When you are
:45:15. > :45:21.playing with confidence, you have to make the most of it. You want the
:45:22. > :45:30.ball-in-hand. A chance to turn four into six. It is a difficult kick,
:45:31. > :45:40.though, from that touchline. It's good, though. It is right between
:45:41. > :45:43.the uprights and Salford lead 6-0. Justin Carney there, a bit of
:45:44. > :45:47.footwork there and he comes through the defensive line, lands on the
:45:48. > :45:51.front, kick play of the ball, it's a disrupted line, off he goes, Junior
:45:52. > :45:54.Sa'u, whether he is playing right-centre, left-centre, it
:45:55. > :46:01.matters not. This boy can carry the ball. Great try. McShane gets us
:46:02. > :46:07.started again. The kick is too long. Dobson making sure his feet were out
:46:08. > :46:11.of play, or did he? Or did he? The touch judge on the far side wasn't
:46:12. > :46:15.sure. Not sure why he caught that. That was going dead anyway. All he
:46:16. > :46:24.needed to do was put one foot out and hit the ball. He had no need to
:46:25. > :46:35.catch it. Was his feet in the air there? Well... Feet in the air as he
:46:36. > :46:40.leapt out of play. Is it is a drop-out under the posts. We are
:46:41. > :46:55.going to see that again. He's in the air. Yes. That's a mistake. He just
:46:56. > :47:00.needed to touch the ball and that would have made it a penalty on the
:47:01. > :47:07.halfway line. He will stand and catch it. A big mistake by Dobson.
:47:08. > :47:13.Overcomplicating it. Or just not touch the ball at all. It was going
:47:14. > :47:14.dead. So, Castleford given the bonus of possession back here and a chance
:47:15. > :47:35.to create some mayhem if they can. Larne Patrick, his first start - it
:47:36. > :47:45.was his original drive there. Patrick is involved again. And
:47:46. > :47:51.already up to that 20-metre mark. McMeeken came back on that angled
:47:52. > :47:55.run. Milner with a dummy and tries to trick his way over. He is
:47:56. > :48:02.certainly over. But he hasn't touched it down. McMeeken is making
:48:03. > :48:08.great yardage, good angles of running, causing problems for the
:48:09. > :48:15.Salford defence. This was a good carry from Milner. Across the line
:48:16. > :48:18.but good work by O'Brien. That is a big kick which Monaghan takes. The
:48:19. > :48:24.referee says play on! McMeeken is there to score. I rather think we
:48:25. > :48:29.are going to the video ref on this. I think it is a try. I think that is
:48:30. > :48:34.a try as well. The referee said play on. And the referee has given the
:48:35. > :48:42.try on the field. Let's hear from the video referee to see what the
:48:43. > :48:44.judgment is. We need to see if they are onside, sit from a kick. -- it
:48:45. > :48:49.is from a kick. Here we go. So the right-hand side
:48:50. > :49:09.are all OK. You can see the ball goes forward so
:49:10. > :49:11.we need to see if it touches, we need to see if it goes back off
:49:12. > :49:27.Salford. It looks to be Michael Dobson who
:49:28. > :49:32.touches the ball. Just have a close-up of that, please. Looks to
:49:33. > :49:40.be Michael Dobson who touches the ball. Here we go. So Joel Monaghan
:49:41. > :50:04.catches the ball. It's Junior Sa'u's arm, I think.
:50:05. > :50:07.Yes, it is, number 4, Junior Sa'u's arm. So we can go through to the
:50:08. > :50:31.grounding. So the majority here are going to
:50:32. > :50:38.enjoy this moment. A try is given to Mike McMeeken, his fifth of the
:50:39. > :50:42.season. The tall second rower from Basingstoke and Castleford with an
:50:43. > :50:50.immediate response. The interesting thing there was the kick. He's so
:50:51. > :50:57.good in the air, Monaghan. He gets it. Dobson tries to pat it back,
:50:58. > :51:04.that is unlucky for Salford, but good play by Castleford.
:51:05. > :51:09.Interesting as well, that it is Paul McShane taking the conversion kick.
:51:10. > :51:13.He hasn't kicked any so far this year, so it is a good time for him
:51:14. > :51:19.to start that goal-kicking record. And he has done. So he's got a 100%
:51:20. > :51:24.kicking record so far this season. One out of one. He will retire now!
:51:25. > :51:27.We talked about the kicking game. This is where Ryan Hampshire stepped
:51:28. > :51:33.in. That is a pretty good kick there. It's a strike weapon for any
:51:34. > :51:39.team with Joel Monaghan in there. He fielded the ball cleanly. He tried
:51:40. > :51:43.to throw it back. McMeeken came up with a deserved try because
:51:44. > :51:49.Jonathan, he's made a big impression in the early part of this game. So
:51:50. > :51:53.we are all square at 6-6. 12 minutes of this first half played.
:51:54. > :51:58.Castleford, although they are starting on their own line here,
:51:59. > :52:01.given the dimensions of this pitch, it won't be long before they are
:52:02. > :52:05.putting real pressure on Salford again if they can keep hold of the
:52:06. > :52:13.ball for the next six tackles. It's a short pitch. If you get in the
:52:14. > :52:16.fresh air, it looks a long way. When you have big guys pursuing you. I
:52:17. > :52:21.remember you scoring a few tries on this field. It seemed a long way to
:52:22. > :52:24.me. It looked a long way for those watching as well with those little
:52:25. > :52:29.legs peddling away. But you got there in the end! Castleford are
:52:30. > :52:34.inside the Salford half. Good yardage here by Cas. Very good set.
:52:35. > :52:38.Jewitt, he puts the ball under the right shoulder and tries to burst a
:52:39. > :52:42.way through. Former Salford player, Lee Jewitt, of course. Not the
:52:43. > :52:45.happiest of times there for him. Hampshire puts the kick in the air.
:52:46. > :52:50.Carney is having a look at this. Down it comes. It is Millington who
:52:51. > :52:53.kicks it on. Crooks tries to get the kick, hits a Salford player, O'Brien
:52:54. > :52:58.comes up with possession, Salford have it back. That is the avenue
:52:59. > :53:03.they have to go on. Monaghan has got the wood over Carney, he is great in
:53:04. > :53:09.the air. And Hampshire's taken over the mantle of putting the ball on a
:53:10. > :53:17.plate for him. They were much better ends of sets. Vidot, a couple of
:53:18. > :53:18.glimpses of him so far in the game, Daniel Vidot, but nothing explosive
:53:19. > :53:30.just yet. Wide it goes. Solomona to collect. And talk about
:53:31. > :53:33.Junior Sa'u being an inspiring try-scoring forward, but Salford
:53:34. > :53:38.have one of their own in Solomona, but his passing might not be the
:53:39. > :53:42.best. Ben Crooks has knocked on, a bit of advice from the touch judge
:53:43. > :53:46.and Solomona is furious. It wasn't a great pass in the first place, was
:53:47. > :53:52.it? This is what Castleford have got to do. Not the greatest pass. Very
:53:53. > :53:56.difficult to take. But I think the strike power the boys have mentioned
:53:57. > :54:03.in the studio, they can't afford mistakes in their own 20-metre area.
:54:04. > :54:07.He's gifted Salford a really advantageous position there on
:54:08. > :54:11.tackle one. He's invited Salford in to say, hey, can you score? Jewitt
:54:12. > :54:21.has gone off to the blood bin as well. Rob Lui. Murdoch-Masilla. So
:54:22. > :54:25.often you see one passing to the other. Joseph is still going. The
:54:26. > :54:30.engine is still running at dummy half for Phil Joseph. Flanagan steps
:54:31. > :54:34.off the left foot and urges himself forward again. Castleford defenders
:54:35. > :54:40.are already back on their own goal line. Joseph goes left of Kopczak
:54:41. > :54:44.and Dobson will swing it away. O'Brien is able to recover his poise
:54:45. > :54:50.and recover the spilt ball. Good read by Crooks. Dobson. Heavily in
:54:51. > :54:58.by George Griffin. Still got a couple of tackles to go
:54:59. > :55:02.here. It is back with Dobson. Dobson back to Rob Lui. There is danger
:55:03. > :55:07.here. Lui can't brush-off the defenders, can off-load well,
:55:08. > :55:13.though. Dobson... That is great defence by Castleford. Joseph. I'm
:55:14. > :55:17.sure a tiring back now, Lui with the kick, Crooks tries to reach it.
:55:18. > :55:21.Carney picks up a ball that was touched by Castleford so another six
:55:22. > :55:25.tackles for Salford to have a go. This is a fair examination. They
:55:26. > :55:31.have gifted an error on the first tackle, played a full set out, the
:55:32. > :55:34.Salford Red Devils, and they have a second consecutive set. Exhausting
:55:35. > :55:41.moments for the Castleford defence. Can Salford find a way through?
:55:42. > :55:45.Joseph. Craig Kopczak goes to dummy half. There is not a lot of
:55:46. > :55:49.sprightliness in that position. Dobson with the pass away.
:55:50. > :55:53.Castleford's defence pushing up. Salford survive the pressure and
:55:54. > :55:58.keep possession. Wasn't touched, though, so the tackle count remains
:55:59. > :56:02.as it was. Jones, Vidot. They are jumping all over the place, they
:56:03. > :56:06.have lost 20 metres as well here, have Salford. That is tremendous
:56:07. > :56:10.structured defence there from the Castleford Tigers, really is. Moving
:56:11. > :56:13.up in a line, working hard for each other, putting the Salford attackers
:56:14. > :56:34.under pressure. Joseph. Dobson. Salford don't get the break,
:56:35. > :56:38.Castleford do get the ball. It was desperate defence that time. They
:56:39. > :56:42.were short of numbers on the right-hand side. The line speed is
:56:43. > :56:47.very, very good, great decision-making, especially by
:56:48. > :56:53.Crooks. That will be a big boost for Castleford, it really will. They
:56:54. > :56:58.will take great comfort in that. Marvellous defence and there's the
:56:59. > :57:03.end of the Salford 12th, set of 12 tackles. Here they go. They are
:57:04. > :57:07.sweeping forward in the shape of Solomona. Solomona to Monaghan, back
:57:08. > :57:12.to Solomona, has he kept a hold of it? No, he's not. Salford have it
:57:13. > :57:20.back. That is brilliant play by Castleford. Solomona, Monaghan, they
:57:21. > :57:28.made something out of nothing there. Unfortunate that they just dropped
:57:29. > :57:31.the ball. Chancing their arm there, the Castleford Tigers.
:57:32. > :57:37.It is nip and tuck at the moment. It is exciting stuff at the moment as
:57:38. > :57:43.well. Dobson plugs the left-hand side. It's a forward pass.
:57:44. > :57:51.Castleford get head and feed. Robbie? The game has opened up right
:57:52. > :57:58.now. It is very, very free-flowing. I don't know what it looks like on
:57:59. > :58:02.TV, but I can tell you pitchside, it is baking. The longer the
:58:03. > :58:06.opposition, the longer the team, your team has to defend, the more
:58:07. > :58:10.energy it is going to draw out of you. The word has to come from the
:58:11. > :58:13.sidelines that these players need to make sure they finish out their sets
:58:14. > :58:18.and they turn those sets into points. There is a chance for both
:58:19. > :58:23.sets of players to get some water in here. The one clear thing for me,
:58:24. > :58:27.you know, in the first 18 minutes, is the organisation from the
:58:28. > :58:32.half-backs of Salford. They look far more threatening and far more
:58:33. > :58:35.organised when they have got Lui and Dobson, but also O'Brien is there
:58:36. > :58:40.directing everyone as well. They have a huge advantage with those
:58:41. > :58:46.three over Castleford, you know, with a makeshift half-back
:58:47. > :58:56.partnership. Castleford can make things out of nothing, as Solomona
:58:57. > :59:00.almost did there. 6-6 as it stands. 19th minute is entered and a penalty
:59:01. > :59:13.here for Castleford as well. Do they think about two points here? It is a
:59:14. > :59:20.knockout game. It was an easy kick. That ends the debate. Milner at
:59:21. > :59:25.dummy half. McShane with a short pass, McMeeken has knocked on, I
:59:26. > :59:29.think it hit a Salford player. There is your answer. Should they have
:59:30. > :59:33.taken two or shouldn't they? Knockout game, keep the tins
:59:34. > :59:36.rattling. As Robbie says, finish your sets. They have to finish the
:59:37. > :59:56.sets. It is very, very warm. Castleford would prefer that Luke
:59:57. > :00:04.Gale was out on the pitch. Instead he is speaking with Tony.
:00:05. > :00:10.-- Tanya. He is at the back of the stand surrounded by his team-mates.
:00:11. > :00:14.What do you make of this so far? We have started really well. We need to
:00:15. > :00:22.get our kicking game better. Stop their back three from getting on a
:00:23. > :00:30.roll. What does Grant Millington bring to the role? He is a front row
:00:31. > :00:36.player. Brings a lot of composure. He has played a lot of games in
:00:37. > :00:49.Australia. Thanks for your time. Adam Ward is on the field from the
:00:50. > :00:54.interchange bench. There will be happy with that turnover ten metres
:00:55. > :00:56.away from the Castleford line. I think Salford are looking more
:00:57. > :01:05.threatening with the half-backs organisation.
:01:06. > :01:14.Craig Kopczak has gone off. He is wearing a player microphone today.
:01:15. > :01:20.We will hear evidence of that today. Only picking up heavy breathing at
:01:21. > :01:26.the moment as he recovers! Transfer massif. -- a transfer massif to cut
:01:27. > :01:38.through the middle. Salford on the back foot. They have
:01:39. > :01:46.to keep it basic. Take a job, trundle it up. Do exactly what they
:01:47. > :01:52.just did. Try to force the error and play in the opposition half. That
:01:53. > :01:54.was a good end. It took out the conundrum of the back play-off
:01:55. > :02:04.Salford by putting it over the sideline. Cas just shading the
:02:05. > :02:11.territory. It is one of those really exciting weekends. This game today,
:02:12. > :02:14.delicious, delightful. Tomorrow, St Helens against Hull, which will be
:02:15. > :02:20.everything this game is and possibly more. The way the Super League is
:02:21. > :02:22.gone, everybody can beat each other. You might favour them because of
:02:23. > :02:49.home advantage but you never know. That is a good back line, Jones
:02:50. > :03:15.against Webster. Monaghan is so good under the high
:03:16. > :03:23.ball. You sense maybe he is looking after the full-back, Hampshire. The
:03:24. > :03:28.full-back tends to drift over that way and Monaghan goes on behind the
:03:29. > :03:36.defensive line to diffuse that problem. Matt Cook has taken
:03:37. > :03:44.Castleford to the 40 metre line. Some big tackles coming in.
:03:45. > :03:53.Webster... Solomona with a sway of the hips. Back to Webster. Hampshire
:03:54. > :04:04.was screaming for it. The defence was good enough. Insert him in. It
:04:05. > :04:16.is knocked on. It is going Salford's way. That was a big mistake. An
:04:17. > :04:22.attacking opportunity. Not gone. The referee spotted that. That was a
:04:23. > :04:28.gilt-edged chance. On half chances such as that cup ties are decided.
:04:29. > :04:33.It was tremendous initially. Webster, drops of his left foot.
:04:34. > :04:38.Comes into the gap. I thought Solomona would have backed his
:04:39. > :04:47.place. I thought exactly the same as you. I thought he would have taken
:04:48. > :04:51.him on the outside. Good tackle. This Challenge Cup sixth round tie
:04:52. > :05:04.is boiling up nicely. 25 minutes played.
:05:05. > :05:07.Flanagan has taken over in the acting half-backs position at the
:05:08. > :05:36.moment. Doing a good job with their kicking
:05:37. > :05:49.game. Castleford receiving the ball within ten metres of their own line.
:05:50. > :06:01.Crooks takes them on. Castleford are flowing. Gadwin Springer, he is an
:06:02. > :06:03.athlete. It takes three to try to stop him. Eventually they do. The
:06:04. > :06:27.role is on. The last tackle in the set. Carney
:06:28. > :06:34.against Monaghan. Carney got there well before Monaghan arrived. Good
:06:35. > :06:40.play by Sa'u. He did not allow Monaghan to jump for the ball. It
:06:41. > :06:53.made it easy for his winger. Just checks Monaghan. Offside,
:06:54. > :06:58.Castleford. A penalty for offside. The referee had to give it because
:06:59. > :07:04.they were offside. I am with you, Jonathan. Good work by the Salford
:07:05. > :07:14.defence off the ball, which allowed Carney to defuse any problems.
:07:15. > :07:30.Carney... They love him! Castleford alert to that. Very good
:07:31. > :08:06.defence. A couple of tackles to go. Wonderful kick! He is in again!
:08:07. > :08:13.Sa'u! Second try of the game. Eight try in three games. He is a
:08:14. > :08:21.veritable try scoring machine. He is an absolutely outstanding form. He
:08:22. > :08:28.scores in a vast array of ways. We spoke about the Salford sets, how
:08:29. > :08:34.good they were. Constantly turning Castleford around. This was a cute
:08:35. > :08:40.one. Is that pass forward? I think the Cas fans feel it was. Regardless
:08:41. > :08:47.of that, this was the end of the set. A cute ball through from Lui.
:08:48. > :08:54.On hand there once again Sa'u. A beautifully weighted kick. We spoke
:08:55. > :08:59.about McShane putting it dead. That was perfection. That is the
:09:00. > :09:06.difference. Three options to put the ball on the foot. Good
:09:07. > :09:12.communication. He holds his line. A great line after the kick. So much
:09:13. > :09:19.advantage for Salford with those three playing around the half-back
:09:20. > :09:27.area. Some players start the season dreaming of scoring eight in the
:09:28. > :09:37.campaign. Some people dream of it in their whole career. Sa'u has already
:09:38. > :09:47.scored eight. Salford lead by six. The kick is confirmed. 6-12 in
:09:48. > :09:53.favour of Salford. He knows what is happening. He has got the jump on
:09:54. > :09:59.everyone. Nobody knew him. -- near him. Martin Gleeson with the on
:10:00. > :10:15.field message carrying for Salford. Just creeping towards the half hour
:10:16. > :10:32.mark in this game. A slight advantage for Salford.
:10:33. > :10:41.Again, quick play from Carney. Sa'u jumps in and takes over. It has been
:10:42. > :10:54.very effective. Name-macro in there as well. -- Hauraki.
:10:55. > :11:04.A really good kick from Dobson. In the end it went too far but it was
:11:05. > :11:10.keeping Hampshire guessing. The wind slightly favouring Salford in the
:11:11. > :11:15.first half. That is probably one of the worst kicks they have put in all
:11:16. > :11:27.afternoon. Flanagan has moved to the dummy half position.
:11:28. > :11:35.Gadwin Springer born in French Guiana. He is a handful. He is a
:11:36. > :12:04.mouthful! That is a good kick but it is taken
:12:05. > :12:08.easily enough. That needed to be a bit deeper from Hampshire. It was
:12:09. > :12:17.too easy to take. The Castleford chasers were offside as well. Once
:12:18. > :12:22.again, look at Carney. Two people on the ground. They call him the tank
:12:23. > :12:44.on the flank. Jones takes it beyond 40 metres.
:12:45. > :12:49.Salford going left again. The ball bounces nicely for Milner. The
:12:50. > :12:55.referee was mindful to blow and then thought again. But then in the end
:12:56. > :13:04.decided it was a knock-on he had seen. He stops the Milner run. I
:13:05. > :13:16.just hope the call is right and that it is a knock-on.
:13:17. > :13:23.REFEREE: I don't need to go. We have got the call. I will watch it
:13:24. > :13:31.tomorrow! Good defensive pressure from Milner.
:13:32. > :13:51.There is no not gone there. Or there. I think it was in the tackle.
:13:52. > :14:01.This is it, watch. My word! This is the one. He doesn't touch the ball.
:14:02. > :14:06.The boys in the studio can pick the bones of that! Good luck to them. I
:14:07. > :14:21.think the touch judge has got that wrong. Nile levels is on the field.
:14:22. > :14:36.-- Niall Evalds is on the field. He is a touch of lightning. Krasniqi,
:14:37. > :14:45.Albanian born. Not too many of them around in Super League. Great catch
:14:46. > :14:56.by Hampshire. He can weave a little magic. Cas fans felt there was more
:14:57. > :15:03.to do that challenge than the referee saw. I think he was going
:15:04. > :15:10.down. It is fiery, it is feisty but it is fun. Hampshire did a good job
:15:11. > :15:37.defusing the situation. A very good job.
:15:38. > :15:47.Springer almost got free again. He did not quite happen. They have
:15:48. > :15:59.still got another play. Over goes Webster! Jake Webster! Castleford
:16:00. > :16:08.feel a little justice written into that moment. Great execution on the
:16:09. > :16:14.kick. That was a beautiful kick. Solomona goes. Great play by him.
:16:15. > :16:20.Back to Webster. That is a brilliant try. That is the difference when a
:16:21. > :16:28.kick is spotted. He reads it well. Solomona is brilliant. Great driver
:16:29. > :16:35.Castleford. The kick is absolutely on the money. Solomona's skill, he
:16:36. > :16:43.is like a salmon, leaping. A basketball player. Great skill.
:16:44. > :16:48.Webster obviously knows he can do that. He was on hand. That is a very
:16:49. > :16:51.good try. It is such an advantage when you have got a winger running
:16:52. > :16:59.onto the ball, you can time your job. The defensive winger has no
:17:00. > :17:06.chance. A brilliant, brilliant try. The salmon like Solomona. The salmon
:17:07. > :17:13.like Solomona who is a basketball player as well! But it is a try.
:17:14. > :17:21.Castleford look dangerous down the left-hand side. They have Webster,
:17:22. > :17:33.Moors and Solomona. An attempt at a converging from Paul McShane. --
:17:34. > :17:45.conversion. Slightly more difficult than the first attempt. He has
:17:46. > :17:52.struck that superbly. Two out of two. 12 points apiece it is a school
:17:53. > :18:01.in the game deserves. There is nothing in it. Great tries scored.
:18:02. > :18:07.But defences are on top. Beautiful kick. Great skill. Lovely dry. It
:18:08. > :18:13.was excellent. You can see what it meant to that fellow. He is playing
:18:14. > :18:15.out of position, calling all the shots. He has taken the kicking game
:18:16. > :18:34.on. He has had a very good half. Jake Webster still carrying a bit of
:18:35. > :18:37.an injury today. I would suggest just about every player on the field
:18:38. > :18:44.is carrying something at this stage of the game, at this stage of the
:18:45. > :18:48.season. I think the only game where you are 100% fit is the first one
:18:49. > :19:11.you play, really. Monaghan is a way! Steps on the
:19:12. > :19:16.inside. Great tackle. But when he stops, and other comps. McMeeken
:19:17. > :19:20.with his second. Castleford finding a path through on the right side.
:19:21. > :19:28.Finding themselves, in the blink of an eye, from behind into the lead.
:19:29. > :19:37.We spoke about the threat that Carney and Sa'u pose. This was smart
:19:38. > :19:44.play. Soft hands. McMeeken stayed alive to complete the job. They got
:19:45. > :19:55.the numbers wrong. Sa'u comes in. He should stay at out. Lovely support
:19:56. > :20:02.again. Crooks inside. This guy, McMeeken on the outside, lovely try.
:20:03. > :20:12.McMeeken is having a really good game. He has caused trouble with his
:20:13. > :20:20.ball carrying. First class. The place is beginning to bounce a
:20:21. > :20:25.little. Salford were just getting on top after Sa'u's second try. A
:20:26. > :20:39.brilliant response from Castleford. Two lovely tries. McShane will take
:20:40. > :20:45.his time again. Paul McShane. His 100th career appearance. He was at
:20:46. > :20:50.Wakefield Trinity last season. A swap deal talks got more to
:20:51. > :20:58.Wakefield and brought McShane here. He started his career at Leeds. That
:20:59. > :21:04.is where he started, where he came to prominence. A loan spell at Hull.
:21:05. > :21:09.He is a very good goal kicker. For all that he has not been in that
:21:10. > :21:21.role this season. Castleford leading by 18-12. Taking every opportunity.
:21:22. > :21:28.He pulls Sa'u in. He reacts quickest. I love that. He has
:21:29. > :21:32.created it with his pass and he has followed it. A simple thing you
:21:33. > :21:36.teach schoolkids but it is still very effective. It is Salford who
:21:37. > :22:04.need a response. Trailing by six. Gadwin Springer has made a good
:22:05. > :22:16.impact. He carries the ball very well.
:22:17. > :22:28.Monaghan will try his luck. He got halfway and then he goes. Unlucky.
:22:29. > :22:33.There was a great opportunity to go for the drop goal. Great play from
:22:34. > :22:38.Monaghan. There was a chance to go. It would have been a massive moment
:22:39. > :22:57.in the context of the game had Monaghan kept his feet.
:22:58. > :23:11.A delicate kick by Lui. They raise the word delicate. Too heavy. The
:23:12. > :23:16.hooter will sound at the end of what has been a fascinating first half.
:23:17. > :23:23.That was the last act. Castleford having to come from behind to lead
:23:24. > :23:29.at half-time by 18-12. It has been wonderfully, wonderfully
:23:30. > :23:39.entertaining. Salford's Sa'u with his two tries. McMeeken with two
:23:40. > :23:43.back for cars. The two teams seem to be staying on the field. Joel
:23:44. > :23:48.Monaghan is speaking with Tanya Arno.
:23:49. > :23:53.You may be a patched up team, but you seem to be chancing your arm?
:23:54. > :24:00.Yes, it is Challenge Cup. It is do or die. How early energy levels?
:24:01. > :24:06.Will that be key? I think it is. It is a hot day. Whoever controls the
:24:07. > :24:13.ball, winds. Michael Dobson. Do you feel you have done much wrong? We
:24:14. > :24:23.need to go back and play a bit more simple. Thank you.
:24:24. > :24:31.What a cracking first half of rugby that was as our Challenge Cup
:24:32. > :24:39.coverage starts in the Jungle this season. The statistics for your
:24:40. > :24:48.perusal. Fairly balanced. We will the opportunities spurned by
:24:49. > :24:52.Castleford. Brian Noble, you said to me that you can look at as many
:24:53. > :24:58.statistics as you want, you cannot measure enthusiasm and passion.
:24:59. > :25:04.Players and crowd in synergy? Absolutely. I think Salford have
:25:05. > :25:09.looked at the Castleford team sheet and thought they were going to blow
:25:10. > :25:17.them away. Castleford have got a different agenda. They have found a
:25:18. > :25:21.way to play. It is very simple. They are following each other. In the
:25:22. > :25:27.main, while they have made some breaks, there are still some
:25:28. > :25:31.opportunities. For me, Ian Watson has got the hardest half-time talk
:25:32. > :25:37.because he has to get his mob going. Castleford are played some great
:25:38. > :25:43.rugby? Yes, energy. It is an amazing thing. You don't know where it goes
:25:44. > :25:50.when you lose it and you do not know where you get it from! The crowd are
:25:51. > :25:58.fired up. They have made some errors but have not made it affect them. We
:25:59. > :26:03.have got five tries in what has been a cracking first-half. We are going
:26:04. > :26:12.to rattle through them. Start with the opening Salford try.
:26:13. > :26:18.Salford looked really threatening. Carney beads one, two, three, lands
:26:19. > :26:25.on his front. At this point cars are struggling. Then you get Sa'u, a
:26:26. > :26:30.powerful man. A couple of missed tackles, and he is in the corner. At
:26:31. > :26:35.that point we were thinking, this is looking shifty fracas. We see Justin
:26:36. > :26:42.Carney's power. He is in a great position to play the ball quickly.
:26:43. > :26:49.Sa'u makes it a really difficult opposition to stop. Carney does that
:26:50. > :26:56.to most teams. It is difficult to stop him. Your dummy half has to be
:26:57. > :27:06.alert. Perhaps try to stop Sa'u doing what he does. He is hard to
:27:07. > :27:11.stop. I think they are played Justin Carney really well. When you are on
:27:12. > :27:21.your heels, it is hard to handle Carney and Sa'u. Cars honking. They
:27:22. > :27:25.got really quickly into some rhythm. They made no mistakes apart from
:27:26. > :27:33.mistakes at the right end of the field. Salford made a mistake at the
:27:34. > :27:43.right end and were punished. Michael Dobson was trying to be smart. We
:27:44. > :27:49.had Hampshire kick the ball to Joel Monaghan. Joel Monaghan trying to
:27:50. > :27:54.outjump the opposition. We see this in Super League every week. Dobson
:27:55. > :28:06.gets a hand and it goes to the video referee. It is a try for McMeeken.
:28:07. > :28:10.Monaghan is a kick target. A great try fracas. That really got them
:28:11. > :28:17.into the game. It all came from that error from Dobson. If Monaghan is
:28:18. > :28:23.such a great kick target, how do you stop at? You have to get people
:28:24. > :28:30.around the ball. Solomona is a kick target. Daryl Powell has been
:28:31. > :28:34.extremely clever. Salford have to come up with a
:28:35. > :28:38.strategy. We will see on the second one in the minute, Figo does not
:28:39. > :28:45.leave the ground. He is a giant but Solomona out Johnson.
:28:46. > :28:50.All of the cars fans around us thought there was a forward pass
:28:51. > :28:55.here. That is because it was a forward pass!
:28:56. > :29:03.They are difficult ones. The linesman is blocked. Hampshire's job
:29:04. > :29:07.is to come into the defensive line, pretend he is a defender and move
:29:08. > :29:12.around the back of the line to cover this kick. Monaghan leaves this
:29:13. > :29:17.space behind. Hampshire stays in the line may be a fraction too long.
:29:18. > :29:29.Perfect kick. There is not a lot in that technical -- technically. Very
:29:30. > :29:35.intricate. It was a great kick. You have to give a lot of credit for the
:29:36. > :29:38.skill, to put that on the spot. That is a hard kick. Tough kick but a
:29:39. > :29:48.great chase from Sa'u. He really chased hard and got his
:29:49. > :29:58.rewards. There's the Castleford dressing room. Daryl Powell might be
:29:59. > :30:02.giving a different team talk. This is on the back of some great play
:30:03. > :30:07.from Castleford. The accuracy of that kick is fabulous. Solomona has
:30:08. > :30:15.got the jump on Vidot, he is a big man, I didn't realise how big this
:30:16. > :30:22.Vidot is. He goes down, Solomona goes up, Webster finishes the play.
:30:23. > :30:26.Executed perfectly. When you mentioned it before, they probably
:30:27. > :30:32.don't think they have got as big a kicking threat now Gale is not
:30:33. > :30:40.playing, but Gale and Hampshire have put it right on the button. McShane
:30:41. > :30:45.has been brilliant. He is a very good player. You say that with
:30:46. > :30:50.surprise on your face! No, careful, you might not be coming back at this
:30:51. > :30:58.rate! John, you have become our favourite pundit again! Times are
:30:59. > :31:03.hard. The final Cas try of the 40 minutes? Cas played some great
:31:04. > :31:12.rugby. We see a bit of instinctive play. McMeeken has been the star
:31:13. > :31:15.player for Castleford. Justin Carney is in the wrong position. Justin
:31:16. > :31:20.Carney has to shut that down. He doesn't. Monaghan, what we see
:31:21. > :31:25.there, is a player who passed the ball stay alive and McMeeken scored.
:31:26. > :31:29.He has been a stand-out player for Castleford. Justin Carney has to hit
:31:30. > :31:36.Crooks as he catches the ball. A great piece of play from Cas and a
:31:37. > :31:42.great try from McMeeken. Cas has been really simple. They are running
:31:43. > :31:46.out of dummy half, they are moving with one-pass, two-pass plays. It is
:31:47. > :31:54.up to Salford, they have to be challenging in that area. Ian Watson
:31:55. > :32:08.has to tell them to be more vigorous in the middle of field. What none of
:32:09. > :32:12.us have talked about, is this is a Subutteo pitch. You have to
:32:13. > :32:15.turntables on them. If we hold our nerve and if we are strong, we will
:32:16. > :32:20.get field position! We will talk about the size of the pitch later.
:32:21. > :32:33.We have our rugby league forum post-match. You can put questions to
:32:34. > :32:37.Brian, John or Denis. We have teams up with Songs of Praise to give you
:32:38. > :32:40.a special opportunity at Wembley. You could be part of a fans' choir
:32:41. > :33:01.singing Abide With Me. The Challenge Cup is rugby league's
:33:02. > :33:06.most prestigious competition. Each final is preceded with Abide With
:33:07. > :33:10.Me. The final two teams will battle it out for the Challenge Cup. You
:33:11. > :33:15.could be on the pitch before kick-off helping to lead over 80,000
:33:16. > :33:19.voices in song. We are looking for 32 super supporters to form our
:33:20. > :33:24.choir. It is a fantastic opportunity to raise the curtain at an historic
:33:25. > :33:32.sporting event. Someone who knows what it feels like to hear that hymn
:33:33. > :33:40.is Jamie. I have played in it four or five times. The experience, I
:33:41. > :33:44.walk out there, it is a bit like, I don't know, the Colosseum. It is
:33:45. > :33:49.always red-hot. Not sure if you are on the pitch when Abide With Me is
:33:50. > :33:55.sung, but you can hear it. What impact does that have on you? It is
:33:56. > :33:59.massive. The words in there, they were written by a guy who was
:34:00. > :34:05.looking towards God on his final weeks and the song is a narrative
:34:06. > :34:10.and it gets to the core of who and what we are as human beings. What
:34:11. > :34:20.will you be looking for as a judge? I will look for passion, enthusiasm,
:34:21. > :34:28.there are a lot of unsung heroes in rugby league. If you would like to
:34:29. > :34:30.nominate someone who fits the bill, we would love to hear from you.
:34:31. > :34:49.Anybody can enter - male or female. You have got over a month to get
:34:50. > :34:56.involved with that. The closing date is Sunday 26th June, 2016. All the
:34:57. > :35:01.details on how to enter on the website.
:35:02. > :35:06.That will be the accompaniment before the Challenge Cup final, we
:35:07. > :35:09.have a man on the mic for us today, out there in the thick of it, Craig
:35:10. > :35:53.Kopczak. Craig Kopczak will keep the player
:35:54. > :35:59.mic on for the second half as well. We will play you a bit at full-time
:36:00. > :36:05.and during our coverage of St Helens-Hull tomorrow afternoon, the
:36:06. > :36:14.second Challenge Cup final of the weekend. Let's hope we get another
:36:15. > :36:17.40 minutes of scintillating rugby league. Back to our commentary team.
:36:18. > :36:21.COMMENTARY: Nothing to suggest it will be anything but what we saw in
:36:22. > :36:24.that first half. The cup tie is still very much in the balance.
:36:25. > :36:28.Castleford will be looking for a quick start in this second period.
:36:29. > :36:34.It has been a k contraing first half. -- it has been a cracking
:36:35. > :36:38.first half. Two teams who who will feel they can improve in the second
:36:39. > :36:44.half as well. Castleford have done exceptionally well. They have kept
:36:45. > :36:49.it simple. And they have tried to go to their strengths, which is their
:36:50. > :36:54.kicking game. Brilliant performance by Cas. Salford have got to try and
:36:55. > :37:04.get back into it a little bit. Hampshire. An anxious looking start
:37:05. > :37:09.to the second half by Castleford. Craig Kopczak will have the mic on
:37:10. > :37:13.again in this second half. That is a good off-load by Millington.
:37:14. > :37:21.McMeeken. Looking to take them on. A fabulous first half he's had. Inside
:37:22. > :37:26.for Crooks. His dad, Lee, has been involved in a few memorable moments,
:37:27. > :37:32.hasn't he, over the years? Challenge Cup replay that Hull won. A little
:37:33. > :37:41.hand-off and away to Webster and Webster, he was going out of play,
:37:42. > :37:45.so so he's dropped it backs and Denny Solomona has scored, possibly,
:37:46. > :37:49.the most unlikely try you will see in a long while. I say "possibly"
:37:50. > :37:55.because the referee has gone for the video here. Brilliant pick-up and
:37:56. > :38:00.support play. Let's have a listen to the video referee. We are checking
:38:01. > :38:14.the grounding. Solomona... I can't really tell there. The
:38:15. > :38:33.on-field decision is a try. I can't tell on that call.
:38:34. > :38:57.Again, does his hand come off the ball? He's in possession. Fumbles it
:38:58. > :39:12.a little bit. Still in possession. And then you can't tell. Have you
:39:13. > :39:19.got anymore angles other than that? Still in possession. Can't really
:39:20. > :39:29.tell. The on-field decision is a try and I can't overturn that, James, so
:39:30. > :39:33.it will be a try. Well, it is highly controversial. I can't believe they
:39:34. > :39:42.have given that. That is never ever a try. I didn't see the grounding.
:39:43. > :39:46.The process may be at fault there. The referee gave it because he ruled
:39:47. > :39:54.it was a try. There has to be definite evidence to disprove that.
:39:55. > :40:00.I think Richard Silverwood feels that there was. He has to put the
:40:01. > :40:04.ball on the ground! Sometimes you score tries through structure or
:40:05. > :40:08.through instinct. He toe pokes the ball through, a good pick-up, gives
:40:09. > :40:13.it to Solomona, I'll leave it to you as to whether he grounds it or not.
:40:14. > :40:17.That is never ever a try. Never ever a try. I don't know how they have
:40:18. > :40:21.got that wrong. It is because it is on the scoreboard, so it's a try!
:40:22. > :40:26.Big decisions, it is a Cup run, it means a lot to these clubs. That is
:40:27. > :40:32.a mistake, in my book, a big, big mistake. We had Songs of Praise in
:40:33. > :40:35.the first half with Junior Sa'u, how about something similar for Denny
:40:36. > :40:44.Solomona because he is a strike weapon? That is his 15th try in 13
:40:45. > :40:51.appearances this season, 33 in 28 for Castleford. McShane can't add
:40:52. > :40:58.the two. So it remains at 22-12. A bit of breathing space now. Salford
:40:59. > :41:02.will be far from happy to find themselves ten points behind. He
:41:03. > :41:07.passes the ball and it stays alive. He is still tracking there and it is
:41:08. > :41:11.Webster, he pops the ball inside because he's being shepherded over
:41:12. > :41:16.the sideline, toe poke, great pick-up, but that is the debate. To
:41:17. > :41:19.underline for people who don't know the situation, when do video
:41:20. > :41:24.referees, when the referee on the field goes to the video referee, the
:41:25. > :41:28.referee on the field tells the video ref whether he thinks it's a try or
:41:29. > :41:32.no try. The video ref has to find no evidence to disprove that original
:41:33. > :41:36.decision. And that was the issue there. He didn't feel he had
:41:37. > :41:42.absolute evidence to disprove the guess. You have to see the ball
:41:43. > :41:53.being grounded. From every angle, it wasn't grounded. All you want is the
:41:54. > :41:58.right decision. The process might be at fault there. It may well need
:41:59. > :42:04.looking at. I wonder what the coaches were talking about at
:42:05. > :42:08.half-time. Daryl Powell told his side to put them under immediate
:42:09. > :42:11.pressure, which is what they did. He said he wants them to play like they
:42:12. > :42:15.did in the last 20 minutes of the first half, not go back to the first
:42:16. > :42:24.15 or 20 minutes when he felt that Salford had too much of a quick play
:42:25. > :42:27.and a robust go forward. Ian Watson said his side weren't closing down,
:42:28. > :42:34.they need to get back to the high completion rate that they had in the
:42:35. > :42:39.first 20 minutes and get Cas back pedalling. The handover has given
:42:40. > :42:48.Salford possession here. The pack has stepped up a couple of
:42:49. > :42:53.levels. The Castleford pack. They are dominating the Salford pack at
:42:54. > :42:57.the moment. Look at Carney here. He loves a wrestle. The guys in the
:42:58. > :43:03.studio called it exactly right at half-time. Castleford have
:43:04. > :43:14.out-enthused this Salford Red Devils outfit. 25 metres away from where he
:43:15. > :43:20.wants to be. Untidy for Vidot and a fumble for Vidot on that right-hand
:43:21. > :43:25.side. It will be Cas who get possession again, all things being
:43:26. > :43:31.equal from this score. Watson will be disappointed with the execution
:43:32. > :43:36.there. He seemed to be rushing everything, overrunning. There is
:43:37. > :43:40.plenty of time left. They have to keep hold of it. Finish the set.
:43:41. > :43:45.Also, it is really interesting that Josh Jones is lining up on the left,
:43:46. > :43:51.with Carney and on the right is Junior Sa'u with Vidot. Again,
:43:52. > :43:56.territory just Castleford's. The man behind the glass was Daryl Powell,
:43:57. > :44:00.the coach of Castleford, twice a Wembley finalist in his playing days
:44:01. > :44:07.with Leeds. Won it in '99, lost it in 2003.
:44:08. > :44:14.Took his side to Wembley a couple of years ago. Webster. With some
:44:15. > :44:23.urgency and determination. Inside the Salford half. Solomona throws it
:44:24. > :44:29.back to the middle. Good run. Salford are back pedalling here.
:44:30. > :44:38.Very good run. Moors to his feet and plays it. Springer. Millington. Good
:44:39. > :44:44.off-load by him. McMeeken flicks it to Monaghan, Monaghan pops it over
:44:45. > :44:48.the top. Crooks. Sandwiched by two defenders, but two tackles for
:44:49. > :44:54.Castleford to impose their advantageous position here. A quick
:44:55. > :44:59.look around and a dart forward by McMeeken. Milner, behind the back of
:45:00. > :45:03.Springer, into the hands of McShane, Solomona is up there! Came offhands
:45:04. > :45:10.and then feet and Solomona touches down. And I feel this might be his
:45:11. > :45:15.second try of the game. But again the referee is asking for video
:45:16. > :45:20.confirmation. Let's see what he says on the field. He says no try on the
:45:21. > :45:30.field and we know how significant that might be, so the video referee
:45:31. > :45:36.with the chance to adjudicate here. We need to check the onside first.
:45:37. > :45:40.It is from a kick. So, yeah, happy with the onside. Happy with the
:45:41. > :45:53.onside. Is he tackled in the air, that is what I need to look at? He
:45:54. > :45:54.goes up for the ball... First glance, he looks as though he's got
:45:55. > :46:08.his hand on him and pulls him back. His hands are on him. And he pulls
:46:09. > :46:16.him down. That's the feeling on-field as well. So he goes up, his
:46:17. > :46:24.hands are on him. And he pulls him back. So I'm going to stick with the
:46:25. > :46:30.on-field call. It will be a penalty, no try, penalty to Salford. The
:46:31. > :46:34.Castleford fans are celebrating because they saw the grounding and
:46:35. > :46:45.thought that was OK. They got that one right. So it remains 22-12. Ten
:46:46. > :46:54.points in it, two scores behind still, Salford. It could have been
:46:55. > :47:00.worse. Vidot. He's been quiet, hasn't he? It is his first game for
:47:01. > :47:07.a long time, his first game for his new club. Is there a penalty there?
:47:08. > :47:11.That's for messing about with him after the tackle had been completed.
:47:12. > :47:17.I think he earned that as well, did Vidot. He is working really hard to
:47:18. > :47:24.try and bring the ball back into play, interfered with, so, rightly,
:47:25. > :47:30.it's a penalty. He had the option of being a WWE wrestler but he signed
:47:31. > :47:46.for Salford. Flanagan. Lui. O'Brien. Jones. Matched by Crooks with the
:47:47. > :47:49.help of a couple of others. O'Brien. Murdoch-Masilla looking to
:47:50. > :47:55.straighten things up and take them on. Two men in the tackle. Two
:47:56. > :48:03.penalties. A really good opportunity for Salford now. George Griffin.
:48:04. > :48:08.Salford within striking range here. Evalds will go from dummy half and
:48:09. > :48:19.it's a wall of Castleford defenders. Flanagan. Dobson. Lui. Lui, reaches
:48:20. > :48:23.and scores! Rob Lui. He is a player of class in the middle of the field
:48:24. > :48:29.and a touch of class has given his side the try here and they are very
:48:30. > :48:35.much back in the game. Determination and effort there from Rob Lui. They
:48:36. > :48:39.needed to come away with something, did Salford, after having that
:48:40. > :48:46.penalty. And my word they did. Here is the penalty. It is Matt Cook, he
:48:47. > :48:52.strips the ball, the penalty is awarded. Rob Lui does back himself
:48:53. > :48:57.and showing a gregs and force to crash his way over. It's a good
:48:58. > :49:02.finish. He has the runners outside that keeps the defenders off him. It
:49:03. > :49:06.is one against one, really. That is a very good finish. Taking the ball
:49:07. > :49:15.to the line on the back of two penalties against Castleford. Sets
:49:16. > :49:22.it up wonderfully well, doesn't it? It's a cracking game. Really good
:49:23. > :49:24.Cup tie and we have more to come tomorrow, St Helens against Hull.
:49:25. > :49:46.That will be a good game as well. 22-18. Really good work from the
:49:47. > :49:51.pivot. Half expecting the half-backs to ship the ball on, Rob Lui doesn't
:49:52. > :49:56.do that, it's a bit of a show and a bit of a go, and the go is with a
:49:57. > :49:59.certain amount of aggression and determination. That is how we get
:50:00. > :50:10.over the whitewash. What have you made of Rob Lui this season? He came
:50:11. > :50:14.from North Queensland, didn't he? We have seen enough evidence in Super
:50:15. > :50:20.League and in today's Challenge Cup tie that he is good structurally,
:50:21. > :50:25.but he is also a running threat. He and Ben Murdoch-Masilla both
:50:26. > :50:43.involved at West Tigers. One other Cup tie goes on today,
:50:44. > :50:48.Oldham against Warrington. You can see there that Warrington have a
:50:49. > :50:53.lead of 22-6. That was a 3.00pm kick-off so they are half an hour
:50:54. > :51:00.behind us here. Warrington very much the nailed-on favourites for that
:51:01. > :51:06.game. Oh, that was a late challenge coming in from Vidot. He looked as
:51:07. > :51:19.though he's hurt himself. In the air... Definitely took him
:51:20. > :51:24.out in the air. Solomona leaps to claim the ball. A tackle in the air,
:51:25. > :51:32.so it's a very obvious penalty. He is lucky there that there is no
:51:33. > :51:38.yellow card. Maybe the hint of the injury that he was showing there was
:51:39. > :51:42.more a kind of a, I'm in trouble here so I will try and get some
:51:43. > :51:46.sympathy. REFEREE: Just keep a lid on Jake
:51:47. > :51:52.Webster for me, please. They are great these conversations on the
:51:53. > :51:59.field. It is as if he is saying, tell Jake Webster to zip it. If it
:52:00. > :52:02.is all square after 80 minutes, we are into golden point extra time,
:52:03. > :52:08.ten minutes each way, if it is all square. Still plenty of time to go,
:52:09. > :52:18.still under half an hour still to play. There are some more points in
:52:19. > :52:19.this game, believe me. It is warm out there, so the energy levels will
:52:20. > :52:46.dip and the gaps will open up. A couple of tackles left in the set.
:52:47. > :52:52.22 metres to cover. Milner. McShane. Hampshire. Webster. Webster. He's a
:52:53. > :52:59.real tough figure to bring down, but he is brought down. Five gone,
:53:00. > :53:04.McShane dances down the blindside. McShane has made something out of
:53:05. > :53:09.nothing! He should not have had any right to get anywhere close to that
:53:10. > :53:19.try line, yet somehow he did. He's been brilliant. Thrust into the
:53:20. > :53:26.half-back position, but he's been alert and now he's finished a try. A
:53:27. > :53:31.brilliant finish. He's gone from his usual position, throw as dummy and
:53:32. > :53:35.that is a great try. We talk about tries from structure and systems,
:53:36. > :53:39.this one is instinct once again from Paul McShane. He looked one way,
:53:40. > :53:45.looked the other and came up trumps. It was on the back of this carry
:53:46. > :53:53.from Jake Webster. My word, he beat some good players there, you know.
:53:54. > :53:58.There is Lui, Sa'u, Weller Hauraki. That is a hooker's try. There's been
:53:59. > :54:03.a clash of heads in all of that. There is a Salford player down
:54:04. > :54:09.injured. Not sure who it is. He is receiving some treatment.
:54:10. > :54:14.Junior Sa'u it is. I think there might be another Salford player
:54:15. > :54:23.injured, is there? Have a look at this. Ooh! It is
:54:24. > :54:37.Junior Sa'u. Desperation to try and stop McShane.
:54:38. > :54:49.Just watch, as they go in, yeah... Ooh! Makes your eyes water just
:54:50. > :54:54.watching that. Yeah. The good thing about this situation, Dave, is the
:54:55. > :54:58.medical side of it. They were straight out there and realising it
:54:59. > :55:00.was a head clash, they are out there doing all the due diligence that is
:55:01. > :55:16.required in such a situation. Some concern for Ian Watson. A new
:55:17. > :55:19.ruling this last year or two, with the concussion. They will take him
:55:20. > :55:22.off now because it's a clash of heads. They will take him off, they
:55:23. > :55:27.will show a green card, so it will be a medical substitution. And then
:55:28. > :55:36.they have 15 minutes to check him, to make sure he is OK. If he is not
:55:37. > :55:45.OK, he stays off the field. If he is OK, he can return to the field and
:55:46. > :55:49.it is not an interchange. I think it takes the decision away from the
:55:50. > :55:57.player. Most players would want to stay on. That is why they have
:55:58. > :56:01.brought that in. Kopczak coming on. O'Brien doesn't look too good. They
:56:02. > :56:09.could be losing two backs here. He is still out there. Paul McShane,
:56:10. > :56:19.magical. His 100th career appearance today, he is kicking goals, scoring
:56:20. > :56:21.tries. Junior Sa'u off the back of Carney there, elusive, determined,
:56:22. > :56:30.marvellous first try of the afternoon. Great finish. Ryan
:56:31. > :56:37.Hampshire right on the money for Joel Monaghan. McMeeken crosses that
:56:38. > :56:46.time. And then another kicked-try, a deft kick for Junior Sa'u before we
:56:47. > :56:51.got another kicked-try to Webster. It's a potent weapon, the kick.
:56:52. > :56:56.Sucking the defenders in. And McMeeken goes in, good support play
:56:57. > :57:11.and finishes it. So many tries, so many good tries.
:57:12. > :57:19.And your favourite try of the lot(!) Great tackle, no try. This is it, to
:57:20. > :57:23.finish it. McShane, clash of heads, and they have both gone off. He's
:57:24. > :57:28.been instrumental in a lot of things that Castleford have done very well.
:57:29. > :57:33.What a great decision and great selection by Daryl Powell to move
:57:34. > :57:40.him into the half-back spot when Luke Gale pulled out. McShane's
:57:41. > :57:44.conversion attempt is cheered by the Castleford fans because over it
:57:45. > :57:53.goes. What a fantastic day he is having here today. 28-18 is the
:57:54. > :57:57.scoreline right now. It is that two-score margin again, that buffer
:57:58. > :58:03.zone that his side, Daryl Powell's side, have once more in this match
:58:04. > :58:08.as Dobson kicks and gets it on the way again. Solomona... And Danny
:58:09. > :58:11.Tickle is on the field. What is going through his mind, Jonathan
:58:12. > :58:16.Davies, after the injury he had in December? Thought his career was
:58:17. > :58:20.over and here he is making his Castleford debut. He has to enjoy
:58:21. > :58:28.it. As a professional rugby player, it is a privileged life.
:58:29. > :58:35.He's got 26 minutes to relish here. His side are leading. By the way,
:58:36. > :58:40.the Rugby League forum coming up after we have finished here today
:58:41. > :58:47.and plenty of people you can fire your questions at. In particular,
:58:48. > :58:57.the Widnes coach and the England assistant coach. So get in touch.
:58:58. > :59:04.Niall Evalds is playing full-back and Hauraki has moved into the
:59:05. > :59:09.centre and Joseph and Kopczak have returned to the fray. So a bit of
:59:10. > :59:20.reorganisation required there by the Salford Red Devils. Milner is
:59:21. > :59:22.struggling a little bit. He is hobbling here. A bit of cramp, I
:59:23. > :59:25.think. Vidot. Trying to run it off and get
:59:26. > :00:01.back into the defensive line. A penalty for Salford. Castleford
:00:02. > :00:07.have kept Murdoch-Masilla quiet. They have but that was a silly,
:00:08. > :00:17.silly penalty. It really was. All this has done is given Salford great
:00:18. > :00:24.field position. Salford have an opportunity. 15 metres out. Six
:00:25. > :00:25.tackles to bang on the door of this Castleford try line. Can they find a
:00:26. > :00:59.way? Castleford's defence is ready and
:01:00. > :01:15.waiting. Lui lost it. It was one-on-one. Salford ball. Castleford
:01:16. > :01:24.knock-on. Did it go forwards --? It is a great opportunity for Salford.
:01:25. > :01:30.Third set on the bounce. Ten metres from the Castleford line. 23 minutes
:01:31. > :01:37.remaining. The cup tie still in the balance. Crooks will have two have a
:01:38. > :01:40.spell on the sideline because of the blood on his bandage. The referee
:01:41. > :01:50.warning him that he has to be cleaned up. Joseph took off like a
:01:51. > :02:01.cannonball from dummy half. They held him up and stopped his
:02:02. > :02:21.progress. Back to ten. Four tackles still to come.
:02:22. > :02:33.Straight to Solomona who was in an offside position. Another set of six
:02:34. > :02:42.for Salford. Yes, I think he went a bit early! It was either Usain Bolt
:02:43. > :02:51.or he was offside. I think it was the latter! Five tackles remaining.
:02:52. > :02:58.The nerves building. Castleford desperately hanging on. A try here
:02:59. > :03:03.for Salford put it right back in the balance. It is another penalty. They
:03:04. > :03:18.are surely not far away from a team warning. It is set number five. Back
:03:19. > :03:33.to the ten metre line. Who is pulling who? Lui... If that had
:03:34. > :03:38.stuck. It had to be him. I thought that Lui was over. It will be
:03:39. > :03:47.interesting to see that again. Monaghan was offside. It is a great
:03:48. > :03:54.late run. He would not have made it. Carney overran it. Psychologically
:03:55. > :03:57.that is huge. Millington defending on the edge. A great piece of work
:03:58. > :04:10.to work so hard from the inside to chasing down. Castleford will be
:04:11. > :04:13.feeling really buoyant after that. Moments like that may just be
:04:14. > :04:18.suggesting that this is not their day. Salford will want to banish
:04:19. > :04:23.those demons from their minds and get back into this. All that
:04:24. > :04:31.pressure, all that opportunity, gone. Again, discipline,
:04:32. > :04:43.frustration. An attacking position for Castleford.
:04:44. > :04:48.The referee just suggesting that Castleford were heading towards a
:04:49. > :05:00.team warning. Just look at this, by the way. This is the Solomona try at
:05:01. > :05:06.the start of the second half. Jonathan Davies justified in his
:05:07. > :05:26.view that that was never grounded. That is one to you, Jonathan! It was
:05:27. > :05:30.clear! Milner is hard. I think it is a nasty one. He has got his leg
:05:31. > :05:41.caught in an awkward position. This is a heartbreaker. Justin Carney
:05:42. > :05:48.comes across and parts Nathan Massey on the shoulder. It is a nasty one.
:05:49. > :05:55.He is caught in a very awkward position. You know it is serious
:05:56. > :06:03.when the opposition player stops straightaway and calls for the
:06:04. > :06:11.physio. The injury situation at Castleford is absolutely ridiculous.
:06:12. > :06:19.I think he is all right. I think he has told the stretcher to get off.
:06:20. > :06:26.I'm not sure if it is a broken leg. He twisted very awkwardly. He seems
:06:27. > :06:42.all right. We will have a look at this. Be careful.
:06:43. > :06:53.He is walking off, which is a very good sign. No rugby player likes to
:06:54. > :06:59.be carried from the field of play. Another injury for Castleford. Great
:07:00. > :07:05.to see that Nathan Massey is being assisted from the field rather than
:07:06. > :07:14.being carried from the field. That ten point gap remains. Castleford
:07:15. > :07:19.getting close to the finish line but not there yet. Salford know that in
:07:20. > :07:24.20 minutes they can still turn this around. They can ill afford to
:07:25. > :07:30.concede again. Castleford are in prime position. Three tackles
:07:31. > :07:41.remaining. The ball has gone free but it has
:07:42. > :08:01.gone backwards. It is OK. A couple of tackles remaining.
:08:02. > :08:12.McMeeken stretching towards his hat-trick but not quite there. That
:08:13. > :08:18.was over the heads of everybody. Not even Solomona is going to get that.
:08:19. > :08:26.Just overcooked a little therefrom Paul McShane.
:08:27. > :08:39.19 off-loads for Castleford, seven for Salford.
:08:40. > :08:41.Carney cannot get into his stride because of the attentions of
:08:42. > :09:24.Castleford. Well read by Solomona. Well read.
:09:25. > :09:27.Hampshire scampering... Castleford have it back. It was a very awkward
:09:28. > :09:34.kick for a Hampshire. He could not get to it. The bounce favoured
:09:35. > :09:42.Castleford. We have news on Nathan Massey's injury. Tanya, what is the
:09:43. > :09:48.news? He dislocated his left kneecap. They put it back in when he
:09:49. > :09:55.was on the pitch. Gareth O'Brien has been cleared to come back on. Sa'u
:09:56. > :10:02.is on the bench. Yes, I will just put it back in while I am on the
:10:03. > :10:07.pitch! Yes, do not bother with a stretcher! Patrick tried to run over
:10:08. > :10:36.the top. Solomona! Just simply go over the
:10:37. > :10:42.top. The video referee is required. The video referee required to make
:10:43. > :10:50.sure this is a try or not. Yes, I have got it. We need to see
:10:51. > :11:14.if they are onside from the kick. OK. The on field call is that Dennis
:11:15. > :11:17.Solomona has not gone from that Palm back. We need to see that again. --
:11:18. > :11:44.knocked on. We need to see that again, please.
:11:45. > :11:49.The on field call is a knock-on. Can we just see that previous angle? It
:11:50. > :12:02.looks as though it does go forward. This one. So it is knocked. And it
:12:03. > :12:24.lands in front of Webster. No try. Handover. Knock-on.
:12:25. > :12:32.I think they guessed it was going to be given as a no try. It was a knock
:12:33. > :12:40.forward. I want to see the grounding. It was excellent. Look at
:12:41. > :12:47.this, leaping like a salmon! Fantastic. If that were on come
:12:48. > :12:53.dancing, that would be a ten! Sensational. Sadly because of the
:12:54. > :13:06.knock-on, it will never be seen again. More salmonella than Solomona
:13:07. > :13:13.on that occasion. 17 minutes to play. Castleford still have the ten
:13:14. > :13:23.point lead. Salford still have a fingertip hold on the game. You just
:13:24. > :13:31.feel that one more score for cars will be enough. -- Cas. But the
:13:32. > :13:41.other side of that is one more Salford score.
:13:42. > :13:55.There is a breeze blowing here now. Played the ball after the tackle was
:13:56. > :14:01.complete. Salford have lost their shape a little bit. You do not see
:14:02. > :14:12.Dobson and Lui orchestrating things. And the loss of Sa'u has been a big
:14:13. > :14:20.blow. Yes, confirmation that June year Sa'u is not coming back. He is
:14:21. > :14:27.off for the rest of the game. I think Castleford have defended
:14:28. > :14:29.marvellously. Their enthusiasm with the off-load and the offensive game
:14:30. > :14:33.has been tremendous, and defensively. They have got a penalty
:14:34. > :14:55.on the back of that. There are some tired looking Salford
:14:56. > :15:09.forwards. Just going for the killer try now, Castleford. They are nearly
:15:10. > :15:16.in the hat for the next round. Gadwin Springer is one of those
:15:17. > :15:22.nematic sounding players. What he sounds like, he does. I do not know
:15:23. > :15:57.what that means. What about Jerry Springer?! 14 minutes remaining.
:15:58. > :16:11.Good play by McShane again. They are saying to Salford, go the full
:16:12. > :16:17.length of the pitch if you are going to come away with any points. Apart
:16:18. > :16:24.from Carney, I cannot see anybody who is going to go the full length
:16:25. > :16:33.of the pitch. There is some heavy breathing going on out there. Carney
:16:34. > :16:39.lost the ball. Advantage play. It does not matter. It was a free play.
:16:40. > :16:49.They go back to the original knock-on. A hint of desperation.
:16:50. > :16:57.Carney trying to changes ball carrying hand to defend. It was a
:16:58. > :17:00.loose carry. One-on-one. I thought Milner would have been better
:17:01. > :17:07.putting the ball through hands. There was a bit of space. I thought
:17:08. > :17:15.the kick was the wrong decision, even though it was a free play.
:17:16. > :17:17.Whenever there is a spill or a mistake, two passes, get it away,
:17:18. > :17:58.there is space out white. Castleford just turning the screw.
:17:59. > :18:03.Until the pressure breaks the Defence! Milner fancies he has got
:18:04. > :18:08.in. He fancies he has got the try. The referee not entirely sure. On
:18:09. > :18:13.the field he says try. It is down to Richard Silverwood again to find
:18:14. > :18:29.evidence not to give this, otherwise Castleford are close.
:18:30. > :18:37.Tackle four. He is in possession. He is short. He is short there. Take
:18:38. > :19:04.that back. Clearly short. Overturn the live
:19:05. > :19:14.call. No try. Tackle five. No try but it is still Castleford's ball.
:19:15. > :19:21.They have been close twice now. Solomona and Milner. No try. Still
:19:22. > :19:32.no conclusion. 12 minutes remaining. One tackle in this play for
:19:33. > :19:41.Castleford. Repeat set. Monaghan dispossessed by Carney. Time is
:19:42. > :19:53.their ally now. They have to play the clock. Keep them out this side
:19:54. > :19:59.of the field. Neither levels is one of those players who can go a long
:20:00. > :20:32.way in a short space of time. -- Niall Evalds.
:20:33. > :20:46.The last play inside their own half. Castleford back in possession. It
:20:47. > :21:24.was an easy take for Hampshire. Good play by Castleford. Finishing
:21:25. > :21:31.the set. Hampshire pudding at high. Asking the question. The ball
:21:32. > :21:38.bounces. After the Castleford touch, according to the referee. Those two
:21:39. > :21:45.wingers are brilliant in the air, competing for the kick. If you give
:21:46. > :21:49.them the ball, you have got an opportunity to come away with
:21:50. > :21:57.something. The kicking game is brilliant. They realise they lacked
:21:58. > :22:06.creativity at half-backs. They keep possession, finish the set. They are
:22:07. > :22:16.doing it very well. Luke Dorn is missing today Andy Lynch, Ben
:22:17. > :22:21.Roberts. Shenton is probably out for the season. He has not entirely
:22:22. > :22:40.ruled himself out for the whole campaign.
:22:41. > :22:51.Castleford content to see that ball go out of play. The second is
:22:52. > :23:05.ticking away. Every second is one step nearer going into the hat for
:23:06. > :23:10.the next round. Daryl Powell standing not too far away from our
:23:11. > :23:13.left-hand side. The energy level with Castleford, they are aggressive
:23:14. > :23:24.in defence. The line speed is still good. Ian Watson, former Wales
:23:25. > :23:32.international. Record cup holder. -- caps. Castleford have constructed
:23:33. > :23:43.the perfect game plan. They have executed it very well. Daryl Powell
:23:44. > :23:48.has had a terrific impact on this club since his arrival. He has
:23:49. > :23:52.lifted them from the doldrums. Fourth and fifth in his last couple
:23:53. > :24:01.of years. They are doing OK this year. They have had a Challenge Cup
:24:02. > :24:06.final. I think Daryl Powell and the chief executive have revitalised
:24:07. > :24:23.this club. They are off to a new venue in a couple of years.
:24:24. > :24:35.The Castleford line is up there to make sure. That is a good chase.
:24:36. > :24:43.Eight minutes remaining and they are still working as hard as ever. It is
:24:44. > :24:52.important to keep Salford in this part of the field. One tried now and
:24:53. > :25:06.it gets nervy. Carney had the ball dragged away from him. According to
:25:07. > :25:15.the referee. It could be debatable. There is responsibility with the
:25:16. > :25:28.ball carrier. There is a hint of a hope for Salford.
:25:29. > :25:36.Four tackles remaining. Less than ten metres to cover for Salford put
:25:37. > :25:49.themselves right back in this contest.
:25:50. > :25:56.Solomona is not offside this time! No doubts this time. It is a
:25:57. > :26:03.question of whether he can outpace Murdoch-Masilla. Of course he can!
:26:04. > :26:08.He has gone the distance. Dennis Solomona finally does claim his
:26:09. > :26:17.second try of the game. And in so doing he has in all probability won
:26:18. > :26:23.the game for Castleford. That is it. As the boys said in the studio, he
:26:24. > :26:28.is a great athlete. He has become a very fine rugby player. He reads the
:26:29. > :26:37.game exceptionally well. Once he got the ball, that was it. You can put
:26:38. > :26:44.your glass down, if you are having a drink, and start clapping as soon as
:26:45. > :26:50.he hits fresh air. He is so confident. That is a real athlete's
:26:51. > :26:57.try. It is a rugby player's read and an athlete's finis. Rate to watch.
:26:58. > :27:01.He has got pace to burn. All in control. He knows he is going over
:27:02. > :27:07.for his third try, his hat-trick. A great finish. He just treated well.
:27:08. > :27:11.They have got the numbers on the right-hand side. He puts himself in
:27:12. > :27:19.a position where they cannot get to the outside. If they throw the past,
:27:20. > :27:24.he accepts it and runs 90 yards. Another player you have to credit
:27:25. > :27:33.Daryl Powell with. He was with London. Then signed last year, a
:27:34. > :27:39.relative unknown. Relatively untested in Super League. He has
:27:40. > :27:46.taken Super League by storm. His 34th try in 28 appearances. They got
:27:47. > :27:58.McMeeken from London as well. They have both been real successes.
:27:59. > :28:05.He was originally with Melbourne Storm. I do not think he got beyond
:28:06. > :28:10.the under 20s. McShane with the kick. He put that wide. He will not
:28:11. > :28:18.care. Jonathan Davies, the man of them at Accra? He has scored a
:28:19. > :28:26.hat-trick but for me... Of areas, interception is great. Lovely
:28:27. > :28:31.finish. For me, McMeeken, Webster have played well. Solomona has
:28:32. > :28:37.played well. But the standout player and the Ladbrokes man of the match
:28:38. > :28:42.is that guy there, Paul McShane. But into the half-backs position. He has
:28:43. > :28:52.been absolutely brilliant. Try scoring, kicking game, convergence.
:28:53. > :28:59.-- conversions. He has done everything. His century of games
:29:00. > :29:09.today. He can lift his bat and take the acclaim of everybody. McShane
:29:10. > :29:20.still winding things up. Three and a half minutes left. They will be
:29:21. > :29:25.singing and dancing here at the end. They always do a rendition of Sweet
:29:26. > :29:36.Caroline when they have won. The whole ground joins in. If you fancy
:29:37. > :29:44.a singalong, get ready. Doing the basics right again. He has enjoyed
:29:45. > :29:51.himself, hasn't he? He has controlled it. As the game has
:29:52. > :29:57.progressed, he has got better and better, more comfortable. Daryl
:29:58. > :30:02.Powell has constructed his game plan. The players have done it

:30:11. > :30:14.been? ! It will be along shortly. More excellent rugby tomorrow for St
:30:15. > :30:32.Helens against Hull. Not sure how that decision has been

:31:22. > :31:22.would have fancied their chances but they have responded exceptionally
:31:23. > :31:40.well. They have used their interchange
:31:41. > :31:45.sparingly because Hitchcox has just come on. The scoreline indicates
:31:46. > :31:53.they have used them well. It is a lovely step, he just rode
:31:54. > :32:21.the tackle. Hard in by Patrick, Castleford,
:32:22. > :32:27.Challenge Cup finalists two years ago, are they setting off on a
:32:28. > :32:32.similar path again? A real test here today against a very good Salford

:33:36. > :33:45.What do they do? They might as well go for glory. Robert Lui with a
:33:46. > :33:51.step. Nothing changes even if they score but look at this and it is
:33:52. > :33:57.kicked out by Ryan Hampshire and confirmation of a very fine

:34:22. > :34:27.Given all the players you had out, what does that say about this group?
:34:28. > :34:32.We have been on about it all year, some of the results are not gone our
:34:33. > :34:40.way but the togetherness is showed every week and today proved it. Some
:34:41. > :34:45.key players missing. How much does it mean to be in the hat for the
:34:46. > :34:50.next round? It's massive. These boys are still hungry. To get there this
:34:51. > :34:55.year would be amazing. Congratulations. Thank you.
