:00:17. > :00:23.Today it plays host to the rugby league Challenge Cup final between
:00:24. > :00:25.Hull FC and Wigan Warriors. It will be fast, furious, physical and
:00:26. > :00:27.hopefully phenomenal. final between Hull FC and Wigan
:00:28. > :00:27.Warriors. It is going to be final between Hull FC and Wigan
:00:28. > :00:28.Warriors. It is going to fast, furious, physical and hopefully
:00:29. > :01:05.phenomenal. Now, ladies and gentlemen, you all
:01:06. > :01:11.know this so you join me in the chorus, and if you don't know the
:01:12. > :01:18.words, whistle it. In Lancashire, babies don't toddle, they sidestep.
:01:19. > :01:23.Sam Tomkins. It is brilliant. And as they grow, they become great
:01:24. > :01:28.entertainers. Josh Lynham, across the line, he has done it!
:01:29. > :01:34.Tremendously well worked try. A town full of energy, passion and verve.
:01:35. > :01:42.In the middle of the field and he scores, he does! What a try! It must
:01:43. > :01:47.be one of the all-time great tries at Wembley. This is northern soul.
:01:48. > :02:05.This is Wigan. Then there's the white phone box,
:02:06. > :02:16.Philip Larkin and the housemartins. What a beautiful move. He's over!
:02:17. > :02:21.Well, my word, what a move. Loyalties run deep in Hull. This is
:02:22. > :02:24.the cultured city. We always thought culture was Robbie and fish and
:02:25. > :02:26.chips and now we are seeing it is more, it is art, it is history. --
:02:27. > :02:45.was rugby and fish and chips. Two places 100 miles apart. But
:02:46. > :02:53.united in their love for rugby league. In these streets, the
:02:54. > :02:58.greatest game is more than simple entertainment. Burgess with a kick
:02:59. > :03:05.back down the medal, McIlorum, what a wonderful try! It's a way of life.
:03:06. > :03:09.And absolutely miraculous pass away! It is the current holders. No more
:03:10. > :03:15.can they say they never won admiringly because they have won at
:03:16. > :03:21.Wembley. Against the record holders. Wigan's incredible Challenge Cup run
:03:22. > :03:25.continues. Growing up, it always felt like the Challenge Cup final
:03:26. > :03:30.was played on a sunny afternoon and it is a sunny day in north-west
:03:31. > :03:33.London. The fans of Hull and Wigan and the beauty of the Challenge Cup
:03:34. > :03:39.final you get fans of all clubs coming to this great day out. But
:03:40. > :03:44.for the two sets of men, it is most important. Hull, the Challenge Cup
:03:45. > :03:48.owners, willing it -- winning it at Wembley last year. Danny Houghton,
:03:49. > :03:52.so influential 12 months ago. Will he do it again or will Sean
:03:53. > :03:57.O'Loughlin and the Wigan team, Sam Tomkins, of course, get their hands
:03:58. > :04:01.back on the Challenge Cup. Shaun Wane's side, of course, the cup
:04:02. > :04:08.kings, the team who have won it more than any other rugby league side. We
:04:09. > :04:11.are a lie that Wembley Stadium, as you can see, it is not too busy
:04:12. > :04:18.inside the stadium, fans making full use of the sunshine and the bar
:04:19. > :04:22.inside the stadium. And why wouldn't you? If you want to
:04:23. > :04:25.get involved, you can throughout the afternoon, we would love to leave
:04:26. > :04:31.your views on the game which everyone seems to think is too tight
:04:32. > :04:35.to call. You can drop us a tweet through the day, and we will hear
:04:36. > :04:39.plenty of opinions from these three men as well. Whatever you may have
:04:40. > :04:43.thought over the course of the season, we don't pick them randomly,
:04:44. > :04:47.we picked them for their expertise, all three of them... No, we do!
:04:48. > :04:53.Jamie Peacock, Jon Wilkin and Brian Noble have all got history with the
:04:54. > :04:59.Challenge Cup. Brian has still got that suit, actually. They have all
:05:00. > :05:04.had their hands on it as winners and Jamie, it is a special day. It is an
:05:05. > :05:07.incredible day as a player and a coach and when you look forward to,
:05:08. > :05:11.one you dream about playing as a young boy. You want to come down to
:05:12. > :05:17.Wembley, play in the game, hopefully not look like Jon there. It is an
:05:18. > :05:20.amazing day, to get the opportunity as a young rugby league found to do
:05:21. > :05:26.that, to the trophy is what this game is built about, and the history
:05:27. > :05:30.and the tradition is ingrained in the sport, to lift the cup as a
:05:31. > :05:33.coach or player is a dream. It is a fabulous occasion and you try to
:05:34. > :05:36.savour every moment, players and coaches find that difficult until it
:05:37. > :05:40.is all done, one way or the other but the fans can afford to enjoy
:05:41. > :05:44.that but so many emotions built around it. Starting with you, I said
:05:45. > :05:49.it's too close to call and later we will find out who you are tipping
:05:50. > :05:54.but you can put a fine sheet of paper between the teams, can't you?
:05:55. > :05:57.You can and if you look at Hull's Challenge Cup form, you would
:05:58. > :06:00.slightly go to them with some of the games they have got over the line,
:06:01. > :06:04.beating Castleford and leads along the way. Wigan have had a resurgence
:06:05. > :06:08.recently in the league. They have got their best team back on deck.
:06:09. > :06:11.Genuinely it is really close. I think both teams are really
:06:12. > :06:17.confident in relation to what they can pick up today. Jamie? Wigan
:06:18. > :06:20.slightly edged it for me. Both of these sites are the best teams in
:06:21. > :06:23.the country at the moment. They might not be the most consistent but
:06:24. > :06:27.they can raise their game to a level other clubs cannot at the moment. I
:06:28. > :06:30.think Wigan have got just enough in their armoury to edge it, they've
:06:31. > :06:34.got their best players back, they are in form and some of the best
:06:35. > :06:39.players can break again. The best two teams in the country? Yeah.
:06:40. > :06:46.Castleford fans, get in touch on Twitter to make your point Jamie
:06:47. > :06:50.Peacock! Let's look at the teams, starting with Hull, Jon Wilkin, take
:06:51. > :06:55.us through. Full of power, this Hull side, at the back of the field we
:06:56. > :07:01.have Jamie Shaul, Mahe Fonua, and Talanoa. In the centres, Carlos
:07:02. > :07:04.Tuimavave the and Josh Griffin, two big, powerful centres, aggressive.
:07:05. > :07:11.In the half-backs, Albert Kelly and Marc Sneyd, who will be in charge of
:07:12. > :07:14.directing Hull around. When I mentioned some of the fans
:07:15. > :07:19.have gone to the bar to get ready for this game, maybe the graphics
:07:20. > :07:22.team have gone to the bar as well but it looks like they have got
:07:23. > :07:27.their finger on the button, ready to go! Shall we try again? Can you
:07:28. > :07:35.remember what you said first time? No, we will make it up. The Hull
:07:36. > :07:39.back three are very powerful. Jamie Shaul, dynamic, bring it all
:07:40. > :07:42.together. The centres are regressive, Josh Griffin and Carlos
:07:43. > :07:45.Tuimavave, watch for them attacking Sam Tomkins and George Williams. In
:07:46. > :07:49.the heart, Albert Kelly will make some thing happened and Marc Sneyd
:07:50. > :07:53.will look to kick Wigan to death. In the front row, the big men, Scott
:07:54. > :07:57.Taylor, Danny Houghton's workrate is exceptional, and Liam Watts. In the
:07:58. > :08:01.back row, huge amount of experience and this is one of the strength for
:08:02. > :08:06.me, Seeker Manu, Gareth Ellis and Minichiello, all world-class back
:08:07. > :08:09.rows. Big fellows on the bench, Jake Connor, who will come on as a
:08:10. > :08:13.half-back and kick the ball, and Josh Bowden will carry the ball
:08:14. > :08:18.strongly. And finally, Danny Washbrook and Chris Green finish
:08:19. > :08:21.this Hull side. I think what you will hear over the course of the
:08:22. > :08:24.next 50 minutes before kick-off is the talk about the physicality of
:08:25. > :08:28.the Hull team and the difference in the kicking game between the two
:08:29. > :08:33.teams and we will explore that and expand on it before kick-off. Now,
:08:34. > :08:40.fingers crossed, Brian will take you through the Wigan team. It is a
:08:41. > :08:43.return to form for the sensational Sam Tomkins, who is physical --
:08:44. > :08:48.pivotal to Wigan's aspiration, alongside Tom Davies and Joe
:08:49. > :08:52.Burgess. Joe Grima pack, Anthony Gelling, partnering Oliver Gildart.
:08:53. > :08:57.In the half-backs, no less a challenge for them as for their Hull
:08:58. > :09:01.counterparts, Thomas Leuluai why's organisational skills and George
:09:02. > :09:04.Williams' running game. And a big front row, Lewis Oliva, the
:09:05. > :09:09.massively experience Michael McIlorum, and Tony Clubb. And the
:09:10. > :09:13.back three with Sean O'Loughlin as the captain, surely pivotal day
:09:14. > :09:19.alongside John Bateman and Liam Farrell. On the bench, mightily
:09:20. > :09:24.important, the vastly experienced Willie Isa and local product Ryan
:09:25. > :09:31.Sutton. Sam Powell will best Michael McIlorum at some stage, so look out
:09:32. > :09:35.for the explosion of Taulima Tautai. Brian, one of the great things about
:09:36. > :09:38.a Challenge Cup final, about any final actually, is the reaction of
:09:39. > :09:42.the players when they first come out onto the pitch and see Wembley and
:09:43. > :09:45.gauge the atmosphere. When they did that a bit earlier, Damian Johnson
:09:46. > :09:51.and Tanya were there to pick up their reactions.
:09:52. > :09:56.Familiar territory view, 450 appearances and counting but days
:09:57. > :10:00.like this, you can't get enough of? You can't and it is what makes these
:10:01. > :10:05.career highlights, days like today, even coming in and arriving here
:10:06. > :10:08.today it sinks in, how special it is, how lucky we are to be involved.
:10:09. > :10:12.Really good to be back, it seems like two minutes ago but it is four
:10:13. > :10:15.years since we have been here and it seems a long time now. We are here
:10:16. > :10:18.to do a job and hopefully we can come away with a victory. It will be
:10:19. > :10:23.a tough game, especially against Hull, who were doing really well.
:10:24. > :10:33.Pretty scary, sitting here, looking at how big it is, it is more nervous
:10:34. > :10:36.when there is no one in here, quite, the team were running and I felt a
:10:37. > :10:39.bit more nervous than I would be if it was full so looking forward to it
:10:40. > :10:42.being fat. It is my first experience at Wembley, a massive honour for me
:10:43. > :10:45.to play you and I can't wait. We've got a role to play today, we are on
:10:46. > :10:49.a mission. 80 minutes determines whether we come away with a win or
:10:50. > :10:53.not. Obviously, your dad won a medal with Wigan here. What has he told
:10:54. > :10:56.you about the experience? He just said to enjoy it, you don't get the
:10:57. > :11:00.chance to come to Wembley often so embrace it and take it in and it's a
:11:01. > :11:05.game of rugby so enjoy it. I bet he will be as nervous as you watching?
:11:06. > :11:10.Yes, I think it is worse out there but I want to get the win for my
:11:11. > :11:13.family today and make them proud. Wigan have always had the experience
:11:14. > :11:16.of finals and we've had a tough run and knocked out some top teams on
:11:17. > :11:19.the way here. We've both owned the right to be here and I believe we
:11:20. > :11:24.both have big-game players in our team so it will be to the death
:11:25. > :11:29.today. I've got a lot of family coming, 20 odd will be here which is
:11:30. > :11:33.nice. It makes it extra special. Especially being where it is, it is
:11:34. > :11:40.such an iconic place, Wembley. Not too far from home which is nice. Not
:11:41. > :11:43.far to travel. It is a really strong defence against another strong
:11:44. > :11:46.defence and if it takes 80 minutes, we are prepared to do it but today
:11:47. > :11:50.is about getting our hands back on the trophy and we will do all it
:11:51. > :11:55.takes to win it. Let's take a look at some of the statistics involving
:11:56. > :11:58.both teams. Hull a bit older and they are also heavier as well,
:11:59. > :12:06.particularly when you look at the backs. They are a stone per man
:12:07. > :12:09.heavier than Wigan. And because their Challenge Cup win came last
:12:10. > :12:16.year, they've got more Challenge Cup winners in the squad than Wigan
:12:17. > :12:19.have. How imported, Jamie, will the difference in weight be? I think it
:12:20. > :12:24.is important if Hull keep hold of the ball.
:12:25. > :12:30.Big is beautiful when you can keep hold of the ball, you can get on the
:12:31. > :12:32.front foot and play the power game and Hull beat Castleford and leads
:12:33. > :12:35.by playing the power game, getting the back free on the front foot,
:12:36. > :12:38.carrying the ball hard and the forwards running hard and if they
:12:39. > :12:42.can do that and have a large percentage of possession, they could
:12:43. > :12:48.be unstoppable almost. But Wigan are athletic and can capitalise on that
:12:49. > :12:52.as well. Without doubt, it is Hull's Power versus Wigan's fitness and
:12:53. > :12:56.technical ability but for me, Hull's outside backs are fantastic, Mahe
:12:57. > :13:00.Fonua and Talanoa, look out for them carrying the ball a dummy half,
:13:01. > :13:04.making easy yards on the first few players and off the back of that,
:13:05. > :13:08.Tuimavave and Griffin, two big like to carry the ball and they are very
:13:09. > :13:12.direct. Hull's physicality and sizes their strength but it would be a
:13:13. > :13:19.weakness today. In these conditions. It is really warm and if they don't
:13:20. > :13:22.respect possession and come up with errors, it will play to Wigan's and
:13:23. > :13:25.because they are more dynamic and fit. For a coach, how much would you
:13:26. > :13:28.pay attention to the number of Challenge Cup winners in either
:13:29. > :13:33.squad? Is it a bit of an abnormal -- an anomaly because Hull only won
:13:34. > :13:36.last year? I think the experience aspect is overrated, what we are
:13:37. > :13:39.trying to say to the view is if it is about performance on the date and
:13:40. > :13:43.the two guys here have picked up on a couple of crucial things. In and
:13:44. > :13:47.around the ruck, where the big boys are, winning the ground, vitally
:13:48. > :13:51.important for me alone. The kicking game could be the difference. If
:13:52. > :13:55.Hull can get a good start and have got the energy going, it is going to
:13:56. > :13:58.be hard for Wigan and the difference in kicking, I don't think Wigan have
:13:59. > :14:02.quite replaced Matty Smith in relation to kicking the ball on. Do
:14:03. > :14:06.you genuinely think big-game experience is something that the
:14:07. > :14:12.media are obsessed with more than you guys involved? I think it is
:14:13. > :14:14.important but the statistic is, Wigan have to play in World Club
:14:15. > :14:17.Challenge is and they understand the routine of the game, and the only
:14:18. > :14:21.thing that will sap the energy is a few of the boys have not played at
:14:22. > :14:25.Wembley and it is energy sapping in the tunnel and out on the pitch and
:14:26. > :14:28.they won't understand that but I think the big-game capacity and the
:14:29. > :14:32.ability to win those games, Wigan have got that. Wigan's resurgence
:14:33. > :14:43.has come about by getting their key players back in position and we will
:14:44. > :14:45.speak about Sam Tomkins a lot, George Williams, O'Loughlin, Michael
:14:46. > :14:47.McIlorum, those players in key positions. I was alluding to the
:14:48. > :14:49.fact that experience was not important but you have to perform
:14:50. > :14:52.when you have that experience, relate it to everyone else and
:14:53. > :14:54.getting it on the field. It is pointless just looking at people who
:14:55. > :14:57.are experienced, you've got to rock up and perform, come out on the big
:14:58. > :14:59.stage and be calm and that experience Jamie is talking about
:15:00. > :15:03.gives you that familiarity to be a bit more relaxed and comfortable in
:15:04. > :15:06.your role. You don't worry about the occasion because you understand it,
:15:07. > :15:10.the big game, you just worry about your own performance. You have far
:15:11. > :15:13.more effort thinking about your performance than the occasion. We
:15:14. > :15:22.have plenty to come between now and kick-off. From Leigh to London, we
:15:23. > :15:26.look back on the road to Wembley. Lee Radford is the Hull coach who is
:15:27. > :15:30.full of character and Brian Noble went to meet him and his wife at
:15:31. > :15:34.home. Wigan are looking for their 20th cup win but how are they
:15:35. > :15:40.preparing? They gave us special access at their big breakfast. What
:15:41. > :15:44.is the greatest final? Lots to choose from but 1985 was not bad. If
:15:45. > :15:50.somehow you have not seen those highlights, you are in for a treat.
:15:51. > :15:57.Who will come out on top today? Our pundits will look at this fabulous
:15:58. > :16:02.final's potential game breakers. Plenty to come then, this is the
:16:03. > :16:08.71st match of this season's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup so the road
:16:09. > :16:14.to Wembley has been an entertaining one and BBC sport has been there
:16:15. > :16:17.ever since -- every step of the way. In any given year, the road to
:16:18. > :16:23.Wembley is paved with skill, spectacle and surprise.
:16:24. > :16:28.2017 has been no different. Following standout wins by Wigan,
:16:29. > :16:33.and Siddle in the early rounds, rugby league when Trans Atlantic in
:16:34. > :16:37.Round 3 as the Toronto Wolfpack are rugby league's Globetrotters, made
:16:38. > :16:40.their professional debut against Siddle. In torrential conditions,
:16:41. > :16:45.Adam Sidlow cross to seal the win for the Wolfpack. Rugby league had
:16:46. > :16:50.taken a giant leap into the muddy unknown. March and more history was
:16:51. > :16:55.made by Haydock as they began the lowest ranked side to reach this
:16:56. > :17:02.stage, but they were not a match for Goldust. And then the Challenge Cup
:17:03. > :17:08.travelled to the edge of the Lake District where Whitehaven were
:17:09. > :17:13.beaten soundly by Halifax. Round 6 saw the competition take
:17:14. > :17:21.flight as Castleford book on -- but on a masterclass against a
:17:22. > :17:27.struggling St Helens. Minikin! Wow! Castleford! That tells you their
:17:28. > :17:28.story! 31-4 up at half-time before a brilliant Greg Eden hat-trick in the
:17:29. > :17:42.second half. Castleford, mesmeric. Next, Warrington hosted Wigan and
:17:43. > :17:46.this one went down to the wire. Sam Tomkins' drop goal looked to have
:17:47. > :17:51.won it but a late Kurt Gidley try made it a 1-point game. There is the
:17:52. > :17:56.class. Cue the drama, Stefan Ratchford with a chance to win it.
:17:57. > :18:03.Has he got in? No, it's gone wide. And then on the hooter. Last play of
:18:04. > :18:12.the game, he has put it over! That was the point that could have kept
:18:13. > :18:16.their season alive! Wigan advance. The final four kicked off with
:18:17. > :18:20.holders Hull, who had eliminated Castleford in the quarterfinals,
:18:21. > :18:25.against Leeds Rhinos. Leeds took the early initiative. Ryan Hall! He's
:18:26. > :18:32.dancing with delight. But Hull powered back to lead at the break.
:18:33. > :18:37.And absolutely miraculous pass the way so Chris Green scores! And then
:18:38. > :18:45.a try from the men in black and white, Scott Taylor with the final
:18:46. > :18:49.word. Hull return to Wembley. In their second semifinal, Salford took
:18:50. > :18:54.an Wigan, and the Warriors raced into a 12-0 lead before Salford
:18:55. > :18:59.bravely fought back. Dobson's little kick to the in-goal area. I think
:19:00. > :19:04.they got there! But semifinal glory runs through the blood for the men
:19:05. > :19:06.in Jerry and white. Gildart crowns the win. Wigan through to their 31st
:19:07. > :19:16.Challenge Cup final. Jon Wilkin, when you look at how
:19:17. > :19:21.both teams have got here, who's impressed you more? Hull because
:19:22. > :19:25.they have been big-game's entertainers this season, beating
:19:26. > :19:29.Castleford and Leeds, who are Super League's. Do? I thought the most
:19:30. > :19:32.impressive performance of all was Hull against Castleford. I thought
:19:33. > :19:37.that was an exceptional execution of a really simple game plan.
:19:38. > :19:41.Absolutely demolishing Castleford, who were informed. For me, out of
:19:42. > :19:44.all those performances, Hull with the stand-up performance and
:19:45. > :19:47.although their form in Super League has been a bit indifferent of late,
:19:48. > :19:51.in the cup they have been exceptional and they will attack
:19:52. > :19:53.this game full of confidence. Wigan, on the other hand, their Super
:19:54. > :19:56.League form was scratchy but they've used the cup to get themselves going
:19:57. > :20:01.and they are in the Challenge Cup final now, coming into great form.
:20:02. > :20:05.Ryan, give them credit because their Super League form was scratchy so
:20:06. > :20:06.they have had to battle. It was a battle at Warrington to get
:20:07. > :20:16.themselves to the semifinal. An absolute battle and getting the
:20:17. > :20:20.troops back as well, Tomkins is back on top of his game and the spine is
:20:21. > :20:23.there. Both teams will create opportunities today and taking those
:20:24. > :20:27.opportunities will be absolutely vital. We might see some special
:20:28. > :20:31.defensive plays in relation to both teams that might get them over the
:20:32. > :20:35.line. We are going to find out a bit more about how both teams are
:20:36. > :20:39.preparing for this afternoon's match, now, going into the dressing
:20:40. > :20:41.rooms of both teams with our two time Challenge Cup winner Robbie
:20:42. > :20:48.Hunter Paul. Once again, the BBC Sport's inside
:20:49. > :20:52.information and access to behind-the-scenes, that probably in
:20:53. > :20:55.most other sports you don't get. There's a lot of space in the
:20:56. > :20:59.changing room, toilets down there, dressing areas for the support
:21:00. > :21:04.staff. Have a look, they even have hairdryers but I'm not sure why they
:21:05. > :21:06.will need those for rugby players. Looking at the background, players
:21:07. > :21:10.getting massages and also getting stripped in the background, a
:21:11. > :21:13.separate room for that. Come into the main changing room itself, music
:21:14. > :21:18.playing in the background, very relaxed at this point. In the next
:21:19. > :21:22.15-20 minutes, it will stop to tighten up as we get closer to kick
:21:23. > :21:26.off and it will become more serious. Have a quick look at the
:21:27. > :21:30.preparation, water, coconut water or lined up, some of it even peach
:21:31. > :21:35.flavoured, carbohydrates and water and a whole host of different
:21:36. > :21:38.supplements to get all the players ready for what they've got to do.
:21:39. > :21:43.Come through into this room, a bit of an exercise space where the
:21:44. > :21:47.players are using rollers, stretching, making sure they are
:21:48. > :21:51.doing their own self massage and then just throwing the ball a little
:21:52. > :21:54.bit, throwing the ball around. This is how the players prepare for these
:21:55. > :22:20.massive, massive games. Rob Lee's microphone obviously not
:22:21. > :22:25.working in the Wigan dressing room as well as it was in the Hull
:22:26. > :22:28.dressing room. -- Robbie's. When you are getting ready to come out for
:22:29. > :22:32.one of these games, did you prefer to mill around, did you stretch, did
:22:33. > :22:36.you want to throw the ball around? How did you prepare? Reds I was
:22:37. > :22:39.quite relaxed towards the back end of the grid, and experience of
:22:40. > :22:43.several finals and just enjoying it and probably with about 30 minutes
:22:44. > :22:46.to go I would start to switch on, headphones would go on, I would
:22:47. > :22:56.realise I was about to go out there and try to hurt some people and get
:22:57. > :22:59.the kill switch flicked on. Go out there and play my game and with
:23:00. > :23:02.about 20 minutes to go, I would start speaking to people in and
:23:03. > :23:04.around, we know the game plan, we know what we're doing, have a word
:23:05. > :23:07.with the younger players, telling them to enjoy the occasion and play
:23:08. > :23:10.the game and make the most of it. And experience guys have a big part
:23:11. > :23:12.to play in dressing rooms before those games and some of those
:23:13. > :23:14.experienced players will be going around, offering little bits of
:23:15. > :23:17.wisdom, executing a game plan, talking about some really basic
:23:18. > :23:22.things to get them into the game. At the same time, you have to know who
:23:23. > :23:26.is receptive to that and maybe who wants to be left alone? The modern
:23:27. > :23:31.dressing room is slightly different to the ones I've played in the past.
:23:32. > :23:35.Headphones on, the lads are the phone, it is different. I think it
:23:36. > :23:38.is to be a different environment. The changing room is a challenge
:23:39. > :23:42.these days, let me tell you but some people are receptive to feedback and
:23:43. > :23:47.chat and others will stand and growl in the mid--- in a mirror, some will
:23:48. > :23:51.tie their shoelaces are certain way. I'm wondering how different we are,
:23:52. > :23:57.did they have hairdryers in your day? Ghribi or Parliamentary group
:23:58. > :24:01.on Rugby league should ask for hairdryers in changing rooms. -- the
:24:02. > :24:04.all Parliamentary group on rugby league. I would put my money on you
:24:05. > :24:08.being the one that was standing in front of the mirror, not necessarily
:24:09. > :24:11.growling, though. Fingers crossed that Robbie Hunter Paul's microphone
:24:12. > :24:17.has been plugged in and now we can go into the Wigan dressing room.
:24:18. > :24:24.Now I'm in the Wigan dressing room and as you can see, they have made
:24:25. > :24:27.it a home away from home. More than two of the club's legend on the
:24:28. > :24:32.field on the walls of the changing room. Very much like the last
:24:33. > :24:37.changing room, set up pretty much almost exactly the same. Strapping
:24:38. > :24:39.on the one side, hairdryers again on the other, with the toilet and
:24:40. > :24:44.everything and then into the changing room. Very different to the
:24:45. > :24:49.other one because obviously, the music was playing and it was a lot
:24:50. > :24:53.more relaxed. These guys are a lot more focused, there is mood lighting
:24:54. > :24:56.and you can see the guys are the programme, potentially about
:24:57. > :25:01.themselves or trying to take their mind off what they are going to do
:25:02. > :25:04.in the following 90 minutes. Very serious, very different set up to
:25:05. > :25:09.the room and what they are doing here, this is the room where they
:25:10. > :25:13.get their mind on the job, to focus on the 90 minutes they've got ahead.
:25:14. > :25:16.Outside the room, probably a bit more relaxed, inside Beazer is like
:25:17. > :25:23.a hallowed turf so we will leave them to crack on with the job.
:25:24. > :25:27.-- inside the room. LAUGHTER I love the come it is series,
:25:28. > :25:32.everyone's being focused and then Anthony Gelling ASBOs into the
:25:33. > :25:36.camera! Blogging Robbie Hunter ball out of the water. He has a bit but I
:25:37. > :25:42.find the difference in the changing rooms really interesting. Looks
:25:43. > :25:45.pretty serious, nothing happens by chance and I imagine that is
:25:46. > :25:47.something Wigan have researched and maybe they believe it helps
:25:48. > :25:50.performance along the way. The thing I love about rugby league is it is
:25:51. > :25:54.full of characters and Anthony Gelling is a quiet character, one of
:25:55. > :25:58.the things I love about being in a dressing room with people like that.
:25:59. > :26:04.Wigan have beaten Hull three times in the Challenge Cup final. One of
:26:05. > :26:17.them was 32 years ago, 1985, arguably the best final there has
:26:18. > :26:19.ever been been shown numerous times but it is always worth another view
:26:20. > :26:22.and after we have seen the highlights, we will get the views of
:26:23. > :26:25.our commentary team to find out their memories of the day. Let's go
:26:26. > :26:31.back to the future of 1985. Run the tape!
:26:32. > :26:41.This is rugby league at its very best! James! Brilliant sidestep,
:26:42. > :26:55.what a majestic piece of rugby league. Superb drive from Kenny! He
:26:56. > :27:01.has got the speed,! Tremendously well worked try! He can make
:27:02. > :27:23.himself, if he does. Edwards! He has got a way. No problem! And
:27:24. > :27:30.he's in, yes, Leuluai. To Divorty, is Ian, yes, he is! Is this going to
:27:31. > :27:39.be a grandstand finish or not. A tremendous drive. And there's the
:27:40. > :27:47.hooter! What a game! An incredible match, 28-24, Wigan.
:27:48. > :27:53.We are at the statue outside Wembley Stadium, the five Wembley Legends of
:27:54. > :27:57.rugby league, that final, 1985, 32 years ago, is still etched on so
:27:58. > :28:00.many people's memories, including John Kear, who watched the game that
:28:01. > :28:05.day. It had such an impact, that final, on the game as a whole. It
:28:06. > :28:09.took the game to another level, fantastic skill level, ten tries out
:28:10. > :28:13.there, fantastic rugby league players, Ferguson on one side, Peter
:28:14. > :28:15.Siddle on the other commie could go through the hole but they'll play to
:28:16. > :28:20.their potential that day and it was one of the feature final. Djuricin
:28:21. > :28:23.and babies, watching that final commutes to play rugby union in
:28:24. > :28:29.those days, was that one of the reasons you came to rugby league. --
:28:30. > :28:32.and Jonathan Davies. It was a great occasion for every sports fan. It
:28:33. > :28:37.was a great day for rugby league, a great occasion and they are great
:28:38. > :28:41.games. Whether they are the drive best of 85, I remember Haydn 's
:28:42. > :28:45.knocking Alex Murphy getting sent off in 71, I was nine years old. It
:28:46. > :28:50.is one of those things, every rugby club watched the Challenge Cup final
:28:51. > :28:53.and it was one of the rain -- main reasons I wanted to play. When you
:28:54. > :28:57.mixed with the rugby league boys, you could see the desire of going to
:28:58. > :29:02.be was huge. A family connection today because James Leuluai scored
:29:03. > :29:07.the last great try in that game and his son Thomas plays today for
:29:08. > :29:12.Wigan. Tommy is a different type of player to James, Tommy is more of an
:29:13. > :29:15.organiser. If Wigan are going to win, he will be important but you
:29:16. > :29:18.look at his battle against Marc Sneyd and that will be vital, who
:29:19. > :29:23.gets the best of the kicking game, who organises the team the better.
:29:24. > :29:27.The contrast in styles, this could be a classic, the heavy Hull team,
:29:28. > :29:32.controlling the ball, difficult to beat but then it is a warm day and
:29:33. > :29:37.the speed of Tomkins, and the Wigan outside backs, they could be
:29:38. > :29:41.influential. No one can predict a clear winner. There is no clear
:29:42. > :29:45.favourite so hopefully it will be a classic. Going back to 1985, we saw
:29:46. > :29:49.one of the best wingers of his generation, John Ferguson, and in
:29:50. > :29:54.Kenyan sterling, two of the best players all time. -- Kenny and
:29:55. > :29:58.Stirling. Without a doubt, it is probably one of the best wins I have
:29:59. > :30:01.seen, I had a good sidestep in my day, that is how good he was and
:30:02. > :30:09.with Stirling and Kenny, they were of the game and their game was
:30:10. > :30:13.fantastic. We had the iconic commentary from that particular day
:30:14. > :30:17.so another classic delay? Definitely. We're keeping our
:30:18. > :30:20.fingers crossed. Mark, the atmosphere outside is building
:30:21. > :30:22.nicely. They are wondering where you are but we're having a great time
:30:23. > :30:26.and looking forward to what will hopefully be a classic.
:30:27. > :30:30.No, they are not! The atmosphere is building inside Wembley as well. We
:30:31. > :30:35.are half an hour away from kick-off, Hull against Wigan in the 2017
:30:36. > :30:40.Challenge Cup final. Both sides out and warming up at the moment. Of
:30:41. > :30:44.course, tradition courses through the veins of the Challenge Cup so
:30:45. > :30:48.before kick-off, we always have the traditional hymn of abide with me.
:30:49. > :30:53.There are some of the performers, there. Tanya is pitch side with a
:30:54. > :30:59.woman who will be leading it all. This year it will be sung by 23 Rod
:31:00. > :31:05.Kathleen Greene. Tell us and you have ended up being Abide With Me.
:31:06. > :31:15.There was a competition and I made it to the finals and here I am. How
:31:16. > :31:18.did you find out you have one? The Rugby Football League e-mailed me,
:31:19. > :31:23.congratulating me and posted it to my friends on Facebook. It was
:31:24. > :31:28.amazing. And here you are, but the family is not here, how will they
:31:29. > :31:31.hear you singing? I'm going to have do film it and put it on Facebook in
:31:32. > :31:37.a live stream because they are back home in Hong Kong. It is a heck of a
:31:38. > :31:39.platform for you at 23. Hoping a bit more work will come from it? Fingers
:31:40. > :31:52.crossed! Croenen I'm quite nervous but I
:31:53. > :31:56.think it will go great. It is a supportive crowd. I don't think I
:31:57. > :32:01.will have any problems. I've heard you and I'm sure you will be
:32:02. > :32:06.fantastic, enjoy it. Thank you. We wish her the best of luck with
:32:07. > :32:09.that. We are going to focus on the holders of big Challenge Cup, Hull
:32:10. > :32:16.FC, and the man who is the focus of our focus is Lee Radford. Shut up,
:32:17. > :32:18.you three! Lee Radford, their head coach. We sent a very special guest
:32:19. > :32:33.around to his. Brian. How are we doing? I
:32:34. > :32:40.understand you need a bit of advice for the big game coming up. You must
:32:41. > :32:45.have the wrong house, sorry. Radders?
:32:46. > :32:53.What's the best thing about him? LAUGHTER
:32:54. > :32:59.How long have you got? The best thing is his dress sense.
:33:00. > :33:05.LAUGHTER You went and got married in season,
:33:06. > :33:11.the golden rule. I was forced into it. I didn't have a choice, it was
:33:12. > :33:16.now or never. We have been engaged for 20 years and I had the
:33:17. > :33:20.ultimatum. Did you actually give him the ultimatum? No, the honest truth
:33:21. > :33:24.is he took me away on a really romantic weekend, he even got down
:33:25. > :33:26.on won joint and did it all properly. The one reason, even
:33:27. > :33:31.though the happy occasion it was, you are still the only man in the
:33:32. > :33:35.north of England to make a profit at your own wedding. I did bump up the
:33:36. > :33:39.beer prices are little on the day but I'm led to believe that happens
:33:40. > :33:44.at all weddings. There were one or two disgruntled customers, I'm led
:33:45. > :33:51.to believe. Did you ever think you would be a coach? Something I
:33:52. > :33:58.enjoyed early in my career, I'd like to think my experiences as a player
:33:59. > :34:03.have best prepared me, I think, for hopefully a long and successful
:34:04. > :34:07.coaching career. Is it different the week of the big-game? He goes a bit
:34:08. > :34:09.more serious, I think. He just seems really mature that week at home. It
:34:10. > :34:15.is true, though. COMMENTATOR: Listen to the noise of
:34:16. > :34:25.the Black and Whites! I have to ask misses Radford this
:34:26. > :34:30.question, not 18 months prior to that it was banners all over the
:34:31. > :34:37.place, Radders out, how did you cope with that? I just left him to deal
:34:38. > :34:42.with Halladay he could. He's the kind of guy, everything thrown at
:34:43. > :34:46.him, it is fuel on the fire. For the children I felt sorry for them, the
:34:47. > :34:50.eldest was starting big school and he would come off the bus absolutely
:34:51. > :34:54.heartbroken because they were chanting Radford out and your dad is
:34:55. > :34:59.going to get sacked. It does go full circle and he's got over those hard
:35:00. > :35:05.times and now he can go to school and say look what my dad has done
:35:06. > :35:09.kind of thing. What would it mean to knock it off a second time? As a
:35:10. > :35:13.group and aside, we would go down in history and that is something you
:35:14. > :35:17.only get so many opportunities to do within your career. I hope it's a
:35:18. > :35:21.spectacle. If we turn up we are as good as anyone in the competition. I
:35:22. > :35:25.am fully aware of that, the players are fully aware of that, we just
:35:26. > :35:28.have to make sure that in any form of knockout rugby it's about who
:35:29. > :35:34.turns up on the day and who takes their opportunities. He is really
:35:35. > :35:37.boring. LAUGHTER
:35:38. > :35:43.If you win you might get a glass of wine and a bit of a conversation? We
:35:44. > :35:47.might even get to it pot of tea, might even make a personal
:35:48. > :35:51.appearance. And as well as welcoming us into his
:35:52. > :35:57.house, Lee Radford is also going to wear our player microphone today so
:35:58. > :36:03.we can hear his thoughts over the course of the 80 minutes. I thought
:36:04. > :36:06.in that interview, Brian, one been testing things was how his wife and
:36:07. > :36:11.his children had reacted to when he was under pressure with Radford out,
:36:12. > :36:17.he can deal it and use it to fire him and the players up -- one of the
:36:18. > :36:19.interesting things. When you are a fan, football, rugby league,
:36:20. > :36:23.whatever, it is about community and you love having one of us as your
:36:24. > :36:26.manager and your players and yet there is a price to pay for that if
:36:27. > :36:32.you are so ingrained in the community as Lee Radford is.
:36:33. > :36:35.Absolutely, he is a Hull boy through and through and the extra scrutiny
:36:36. > :36:38.that goes with that, going for a pint of milk at the local shop, the
:36:39. > :36:42.shopkeeper asks what you were doing at the weekend, his parents and
:36:43. > :36:46.family will go to the game every week, the scrutiny, not only from
:36:47. > :36:50.the board of directors and fans, everywhere he goes he will not get a
:36:51. > :36:54.rest from the opinions. It is a high profile job in Super League and he
:36:55. > :36:58.has done any credible job. When I played with him at Bradford ten
:36:59. > :37:01.years ago he was coaching at an amateur level already and it is
:37:02. > :37:04.fantastic how he has turned the club around, brought them their first
:37:05. > :37:09.silverware at Wembley, the reason why I think most fans were having a
:37:10. > :37:13.go at his kids is because there would not dare to say anything to
:37:14. > :37:16.lead himself. He has broad shoulders but in a position of responsibility
:37:17. > :37:20.scrutiny and pressure comes but Lee Radford has shown he can deal with
:37:21. > :37:24.that. Any coach or a person in a position where that many people are
:37:25. > :37:28.looking at you, you must accept criticism and praise in the same
:37:29. > :37:32.breath because that's sport, it's about criticism and praise in equal
:37:33. > :37:36.measure and he, more than anyone, understands that. And you understand
:37:37. > :37:40.it when you are in the sport but it's unfair on your family but that
:37:41. > :37:43.comes with the territory? Absolutely, we had a fantastic
:37:44. > :37:47.reflection from Paula, they have their coping mechanisms, she doesn't
:37:48. > :37:51.go to a lot of games, she leaves it to leak because if you let it affect
:37:52. > :37:56.you too much it will affect your coaching performance and he is very
:37:57. > :38:00.strong, as Jamie said -- leave it to Lee every player and coach has to
:38:01. > :38:07.cope with being in the spotlight. I think it is different, it is all
:38:08. > :38:10.right justifying the coach's family receiving abuse when the side is not
:38:11. > :38:14.going well but I don't think that should be part of the territory, if
:38:15. > :38:18.the fan has a problem it should be the coach they deal with, not with
:38:19. > :38:22.the family, the wife and children. That's life, isn't it? But that
:38:23. > :38:25.doesn't make it right. It is not right or wrong but it happens and we
:38:26. > :38:29.have all probably been victims of it and seen it and it's not right. But
:38:30. > :38:35.Lee Radford has a fantastic tool set and able to deal with it. Let's find
:38:36. > :38:37.out how Hull will play this afternoon, Robbie as their game
:38:38. > :38:40.plan. One of the big advantages for the
:38:41. > :38:43.Hull FC team must be the size of their pack, they have a few stone on
:38:44. > :38:50.the opposition but the real advantage has to be with the outside
:38:51. > :38:55.backs, Carlos Tuimavave, Talanoa, Fonua, Griffin, they are the size of
:38:56. > :38:59.front row players and explosive like them, they break of the opposition's
:39:00. > :39:03.defensive line and keep them on the back foot and it is relentless, five
:39:04. > :39:07.tackles against forwards. These are the big boys of the game and the
:39:08. > :39:12.guys that keep you under a world of pressure. When they do their job
:39:13. > :39:17.properly you end up having the half-backs being able to deliver
:39:18. > :39:21.their ability and their structure in time and space on the field, and
:39:22. > :39:25.none other than this guy, Marc Sneyd, to do just that. I will see
:39:26. > :39:30.if I can grab him as he is practising kicks. Hours preparation
:39:31. > :39:34.gone this week? It has been awesome, fairly light, I suppose, but we need
:39:35. > :39:39.as much energy as we can commit is boiling hot down here again. We seem
:39:40. > :39:42.to be prepared pretty well. Does kicking become even more important
:39:43. > :39:47.when the conditions are like so? Probably. We prefer position on the
:39:48. > :39:53.pitch and hopefully keeping possession as best we can as well.
:39:54. > :39:56.Yes, it probably does. The very best of luck.
:39:57. > :39:59.STUDIO: We are going to stay Prichard and bring in Tanya Arnold
:40:00. > :40:05.who has breaking news as regards the teams. Young Tom Davis on the wing
:40:06. > :40:08.is out, he has had a recurrence of the ankle injury that kept him out
:40:09. > :40:11.of the last couple of weeks. Marshall comes in for Wigan. He's
:40:12. > :40:19.been scoring tries for fun this year and made the wing position this
:40:20. > :40:23.season his own many times. Marshall in four Tom Davis. You've got a feel
:40:24. > :40:29.for Tom Davis, haven't you? Absolutely. Marshall is a pretty
:40:30. > :40:34.decent replacement, he can score a try, he has scored some sensational
:40:35. > :40:37.efforts this season but you clearly feel for Tom Davis. Marshall is a
:40:38. > :40:43.strong ball-carrier, so it is like for like, great to have that depth
:40:44. > :40:46.in the squad. We have focused on Hull, let's focus on Wigan who are
:40:47. > :40:49.trying to dethrone the cup holders, they invited George Riley to their
:40:50. > :40:54.hotel yesterday for a big team breakfast.
:40:55. > :40:59.Wembley week is a week like no other really for a rugby league player.
:41:00. > :41:03.You get to stay in places like this for a start which is nice and Wigan
:41:04. > :41:07.have been kind enough to invite me along for breakfast. When we talk
:41:08. > :41:15.about the Wembley week, staying in places like this. It is a bit flash.
:41:16. > :41:20.It is, look at these flip-flops, I will take them home, along with a
:41:21. > :41:23.few other things! As captain, as the experienced man, do you have to tell
:41:24. > :41:27.the players how they need to save it because this type of thing doesn't
:41:28. > :41:30.come around all the time? I was involved in finals for a long time
:41:31. > :41:35.and then there was a big gap between playing in any and winning any. For
:41:36. > :41:39.a lot of the boys this will be the first one but it helps a big chunk
:41:40. > :41:43.have had the experience and that will go a long way to calming the
:41:44. > :41:47.nerves. How much of a buzz do you still get from occasions like this,
:41:48. > :41:51.Sam? Massive buzz, there is no bigger stage than playing at
:41:52. > :41:57.Wembley. Whether it is the first final, or for people who have been
:41:58. > :42:03.in a massive number of them you never lose the buzz of playing on a
:42:04. > :42:06.big stage. 2011, my first Challenge Cup, looking back I didn't enjoy the
:42:07. > :42:10.week I was back nervous, it gets easier the more you do it and I've
:42:11. > :42:12.been able to enjoy it from the minute we played Salford last Friday
:42:13. > :42:17.I've been looking forward to getting down here. It is different and you
:42:18. > :42:20.can do as much as you can to help the young lads and tell them to
:42:21. > :42:24.relax and get excited about it but everyone has their own way of
:42:25. > :42:27.dealing with it. The players all room together and hopefully I will
:42:28. > :42:30.find a couple in here now, I'm a little concerned about what we are
:42:31. > :42:41.going to walk into. I will see if they are in. Dare we?
:42:42. > :42:44.CHUCKLES This is awkward. You have made
:42:45. > :42:51.yourself at home. Settling in together. I am feeding him grapes,
:42:52. > :42:56.like we usually do. Are all of the beds this close together? Not
:42:57. > :43:01.usually. We are using the excuse of somebody will fall in the gap. How
:43:02. > :43:06.much of an inspiration has Tony Clubb been? He had a kidney removed
:43:07. > :43:09.and here he is on the eve of a cup final. The boys felt for him when he
:43:10. > :43:13.went through that tough time with the kidney. At one point we were
:43:14. > :43:17.fingers crossed he would come through it and he has done. I had
:43:18. > :43:23.surgery on my spine, in between that I lost my dad, and two days later I
:43:24. > :43:26.got told I was having my kidney taken at. It has been a tough year.
:43:27. > :43:31.How on earth have you been able to take that in your stride? My wife
:43:32. > :43:35.was fantastic and so were my kids, and just being here with these men,
:43:36. > :43:39.they have really looked after me. Shaun Wane was fantastic.
:43:40. > :43:43.Surrounding myself with good people. Take us into the tunnel, you are
:43:44. > :43:47.waiting, a few minutes to go, can you enjoy it? I think you can, so
:43:48. > :43:49.many teams are trying to do what we're doing and we have an
:43:50. > :43:55.opportunity and if you don't enjoy it you are missing out on something.
:43:56. > :44:00.This has stoked the hunger for the boys and it disappeared to try and
:44:01. > :44:04.get our hands on. One of the beauties of the Challenge
:44:05. > :44:07.Cup final is that you get people watching, fingers crossed, who have
:44:08. > :44:11.not watched rugby league before and they might be looking for a team to
:44:12. > :44:15.support today. They might be going for Hull on the basis of our great
:44:16. > :44:19.Lee Radford and his wife were at home but having seen that they might
:44:20. > :44:23.take Wigan simply for the human interest story of Tony Clubb. You
:44:24. > :44:28.can't underestimate how difficult a time Tony Clubb has been through. I
:44:29. > :44:32.played through losing my dad from cancer but not through having a
:44:33. > :44:39.kidney operation and an operation on my spine. It is going to be a very
:44:40. > :44:43.tough time for him today. If he can come through and play well he
:44:44. > :44:47.deserves a medal as much as anybody on the field. Jamie, thank you. We
:44:48. > :44:51.are going back picture to get the Wigan game plan from Robbie. The key
:44:52. > :44:54.to this Wigan's side success in the recent past has got to be in the way
:44:55. > :44:57.they have been able to control the speed of the play-the-ball and the
:44:58. > :45:05.ruck which comes down to the big boys. Nuuausala. O'Loughlin. The big
:45:06. > :45:09.Strong boys in the middle of the park dictate how quickly the
:45:10. > :45:14.opposition can play-the-ball. They will need to do that against a
:45:15. > :45:17.massive Hull FC side. If they do it right and slow the play-the-ball
:45:18. > :45:20.down when they want to and they are able to release the ball to the key
:45:21. > :45:25.playmakers like George and Lulu like they will be able to release this
:45:26. > :45:29.guy, Sam Tomkins. I will have a quick word with Sam. You are one of
:45:30. > :45:37.the more experienced players in the side, lots of debutants in the
:45:38. > :45:40.Challenge Cup final. Any words of influence? Yes, we spoke about it
:45:41. > :45:42.all week, everybody at the club knows the importance, although we
:45:43. > :45:45.have lots of young lads, they have experienced Grand Finals, for a few
:45:46. > :45:47.of them. A few lads have not been honest age this big that they are
:45:48. > :45:53.prepared well. The very best of luck. Jon Wilkin, every player
:45:54. > :45:56.evolves over the cause of his career and Sam Tomkins will be no
:45:57. > :46:01.different. But has he balled over the course of this season as well? I
:46:02. > :46:05.think so. For those who don't know Sam had a horrific lower limb injury
:46:06. > :46:10.at the start of the year and when we look back at the start of Sam's
:46:11. > :46:16.career and the iconic drive from the 2011 Challenge Cup final, Sam's
:46:17. > :46:20.elusive running style, his balance, and his running typified him as a
:46:21. > :46:24.player and made him such a dangerous player. He created opportunities
:46:25. > :46:27.with his running game. He has had to adapt how he plays. That being said,
:46:28. > :46:34.recently we have seen the elusive running style back, great footwork
:46:35. > :46:39.here against Hull to slip over in what was a wet cup final. Sam's
:46:40. > :46:42.threat as he can score points, creates chances, and in terms of the
:46:43. > :46:47.direction of the team, takes pressure off George Williams who
:46:48. > :46:52.bears a heavy load. He is a very smart kid, Sam. He will put his head
:46:53. > :46:56.in where it hurts, you can see where he broke the line. He brings
:46:57. > :47:00.composure to this Wigan side, and experience, and having spoken to him
:47:01. > :47:05.during the week, he feels his injury is patting, he is training with the
:47:06. > :47:09.team all the time and he is leg is 100% and he can concentrate on his
:47:10. > :47:13.plate. He's been Wigan's standout player and he comes in full of form
:47:14. > :47:16.with the key parts of the Wigan team starting to click and it's no
:47:17. > :47:21.coincidence Sam Tomkins is coming back to his best and Wigan have won
:47:22. > :47:26.games recently. I will add one name to the mix, Sean O'Loughlin, John
:47:27. > :47:30.has already alluded to the fact that Tuimavave and Griffin, the centres
:47:31. > :47:33.for Hull will try and close the play down for Wigan but O'Loughlin has a
:47:34. > :47:37.pass over the top that might expose that strategy. We are going to hear
:47:38. > :47:43.from both coaches who have been talking to Tanya.
:47:44. > :47:46.A chance to retain the trophy and make history, how big a motivation
:47:47. > :47:51.is that? The motivating factor is winning the Challenge Cup in itself,
:47:52. > :47:54.that is huge for us as a group. That is what we strive towards all
:47:55. > :47:58.season, it is what we set out to achieve at the beginning of the
:47:59. > :48:01.season, so if we can do that it would be farm in all. Some people
:48:02. > :48:07.are saying Wigan are favourites. I don't know, it is irrelevant to me,
:48:08. > :48:09.it is who turns up and who takes opportunities on the day. There is
:48:10. > :48:14.not a great deal between the sides in terms of quality. Our preparation
:48:15. > :48:19.has gone really well. I don't know how it has gone for Wigan but what I
:48:20. > :48:24.can tell you is we will come to the party. Is Marc Sneyd P today?
:48:25. > :48:29.Obviously for us hugely, his kicking game is influential and Kelly, he is
:48:30. > :48:34.renowned for drifting out of the game for 20 minutes and coming up
:48:35. > :48:38.with three sucker punches, he has that X factor and hopefully we will
:48:39. > :48:42.see that today. People cannot split the two of you. What will be the key
:48:43. > :48:48.for you to get over the line? Have to make sure we do our
:48:49. > :48:51.one-on-one is an win them, they are bigger than us, we have to be fit
:48:52. > :48:55.and strong and our technique has to be fact that in contact and if we do
:48:56. > :48:59.that we have a good chance today. Sam Tomkins is getting back to his
:49:00. > :49:04.best. How has his role in the team changed since coming back? To be
:49:05. > :49:07.honest, he is more mature, he will always have that competitive spirit
:49:08. > :49:13.but he is a winner, he wants to win, he is very much like myself. We just
:49:14. > :49:16.want to win, we're not really bothered about the performers, we
:49:17. > :49:20.just want to win the game, and the older Sam gets the more mature he
:49:21. > :49:25.gets and we are seeing the best of him now, the last few weeks he's
:49:26. > :49:31.been outstanding. Good luck today. STUDIO: Final moments in the Wigan
:49:32. > :49:35.dressing room, the mood lighting is still there on each locker as they
:49:36. > :49:41.go through their final preparations and similarly in the Hull dressing
:49:42. > :49:46.room as well. We can see what they are doing. The final handshakes
:49:47. > :49:49.amongst the various team members. Let's talk about Hull's kicking game
:49:50. > :49:54.and Marc Sneyd in particular and what you expect from him today and
:49:55. > :49:58.what he is going to have to do. Firstly with Marc Sneyd he must
:49:59. > :50:01.expect Wigan to attack him. He is a smart kid and puts himself in
:50:02. > :50:06.positions where it will be difficult for Wigan to put him under pressure.
:50:07. > :50:11.In big moments in big games he has come up with smart kicks, 40-20 in
:50:12. > :50:14.the Challenge Cup final, big kicks that can change the course of the
:50:15. > :50:19.game. Wigan will try and blame on the deck and hit him almost late,
:50:20. > :50:23.put him under pressure but he is smart and it is hard to get him. I
:50:24. > :50:28.think it is key for Wigan's start that they negate Marc Sneyd,
:50:29. > :50:32.McIlorum, the number nine for Wigan, we will see him haring after him so
:50:33. > :50:38.he cannot get kicks like this away and Hull cannot score tries. Lee
:50:39. > :50:41.Radford Dr Butt opportunities, Marc Sneyd's game creates opportunities
:50:42. > :50:45.they must take. Sneed had too much time against Leeds and he picked out
:50:46. > :50:50.kicks, put Tom Briscoe under pressure, but he is a fantastic
:50:51. > :50:53.asset for the Hull side. He is a cute cookie and knows how not to get
:50:54. > :50:57.run down and he gives himself an extra two or three metres, that's
:50:58. > :51:00.the key to success, they will have to be some serious pressure from the
:51:01. > :51:05.likes of McIlorum and Leuluai from the line. It is non-negotiable for
:51:06. > :51:10.Wigan because Warrington in the first half of the final last year
:51:11. > :51:15.put pressure on him and in the second half he got on with it and
:51:16. > :51:18.kicked away and scored tries all day.
:51:19. > :51:20.We are moments away from the start of the 2017 Challenge Cup final.
:51:21. > :51:41.More great memories, please. And he scores! The excitement!
:51:42. > :51:50.Prescott is over! He is trying to make space. He goes on the outside.
:51:51. > :52:12.That is one sensational try. Superb! Joel Tomkins back to the
:52:13. > :52:29.middle, sidesteps between two, it is one of the great Wembley tries.
:52:30. > :52:40.Well, the scene is set. This is what Hull FC and Wigan are playing for,
:52:41. > :52:48.that is the rugby league Challenge Cup. It is being carried by Adam
:52:49. > :52:52.Clinton from the RAF, who also has alongside him a Sergeant from the
:52:53. > :53:04.army and a Lieutenant from the Royal Navy. The first final was in 1897
:53:05. > :53:12.and we are nearly ready to go in 2017. Now for the traditional
:53:13. > :54:02.Challenge Cup final hymn, Abide With Me, sung by Kathleen Greene.
:54:03. > :54:10.They are having problems at the moment with the PA at Wembley
:54:11. > :54:20.Stadium. Kathleen Greene, who won this competition to sing Abide With
:54:21. > :54:24.Me is waiting with all her helpers. Both sets of fans are trying to help
:54:25. > :54:28.her out by keeping the atmosphere going as she waits nervously pulse
:54:29. > :54:32.of the Wigan fans at one end and the Hull fans below us here at Wembley
:54:33. > :54:36.Stadium are chanting as well. The teams will be waiting in the tunnel,
:54:37. > :54:42.and it doesn't really help anyone, Jon Wilkin. Not at all, it will not
:54:43. > :54:45.affect these players one little bit, it's a huge moment for these guys,
:54:46. > :54:50.and they have an opportunity to be part of the history of the game, to
:54:51. > :54:53.be part of the fabric of our game, to be pictured and photographed and
:54:54. > :54:56.the video made from today's game will be used in years to come and
:54:57. > :55:00.this is their opportunity and right now they are not bothered about
:55:01. > :55:02.whether the PA system is working or not, they want to get out there.
:55:03. > :55:06.Look at that steely focus. # The darkness deepens
:55:07. > :55:13.Lord, with me abide # When other helpers fail
:55:14. > :55:24.and comforts flee # Help of the helpless
:55:25. > :55:41.O abide with me # Hold thou Thy cross
:55:42. > :55:50.Before my closing eyes # Shine through the gloom
:55:51. > :56:00.And point me to the skies # Heaven's morning breaks
:56:01. > :56:14.and Earth's vain shadows flee # In life, in death
:56:15. > :56:41.O Lord, abide with me. # She is 23 years old. She won a
:56:42. > :56:46.competition to sing Abide With Me in front of 70,000 people at Wembley
:56:47. > :56:51.Stadium and she then had to deal with that utter shambles beforehand
:56:52. > :56:56.and she deserves absolute credit from everyone in here and everybody
:56:57. > :57:03.watching, because she has been let down by a system and operators who
:57:04. > :57:08.should ought to know better. She deserves an awful lot of credit.
:57:09. > :57:11.Well done, Kathleen Greene, for that and well done everybody in the
:57:12. > :57:16.stadium for helping her through it too with no backing track. The
:57:17. > :57:21.players have been waiting patiently. They are ready to go. This is it,
:57:22. > :57:23.the 2017 Challenge Cup final. We hope for a cracker, let's John
:57:24. > :58:01.Howell, dated Dave Woods. It's a big noise, big moments,
:58:02. > :58:08.these, so much history, so much tradition, so much at stake in the
:58:09. > :58:11.Wembley Sunshine. If 34 players that they perform as well as Kathleen
:58:12. > :58:24.Greene has just performed, we are going to have a classic. Wembley
:58:25. > :58:28.decorated superbly, Gareth Ellis playing in his last ever Challenge
:58:29. > :58:33.Cup final, he retires at the end of the season, leading out his side,
:58:34. > :58:34.all those young mass gets getting the thrills of their lives as well
:58:35. > :58:51.-- mascots. Being a part of this. Great to see young Jack Johnson out
:58:52. > :58:54.there as well. You might have caught the young man waving
:58:55. > :58:59.enthusiastically as he walked out with the Wigan owner Ian Lenagan,
:59:00. > :59:04.Jack Johnson who is fighting muscular dystrophy, the son of the
:59:05. > :59:10.ex-Wigan player Andy Johnson. So many world stars. Jack is on the
:59:11. > :59:12.right-hand side with Shaun Wane with his arm on his shoulder. Many world
:59:13. > :59:27.stars very much in his camp. Ellery Hanley is our guest of honour
:59:28. > :59:37.today, MBE, star of so many great rugby league occasions, domestic and
:59:38. > :59:45.international, Trophy winner in 1989 when Wigan beat St Helens by 27-0.
:59:46. > :59:53.Ian Lenagan alongside him. Just behind Brian Barwick, the chairman
:59:54. > :00:00.of the RFL. Joe Burgess. Oliver Gildart, whose dad Ian, would have
:00:01. > :00:08.played with Ellery back in the day. John Bateman. Sean O'Loughlin, the
:00:09. > :00:17.skipper, and again, a couple of team-mates there. Shaun Wane and
:00:18. > :00:20.Ellery Hanley. Nigel Wood, the chief executive of the RFL introduces our
:00:21. > :00:27.referee team today, Phil Bentham for the third time, and the young lady
:00:28. > :00:31.is Jessica Marsh, nine years of age, from Preston. She has won a
:00:32. > :00:34.competition to be the fifth official here today. You can put your own
:00:35. > :00:39.punch line in about a nine-year-old being better than the real thing.
:00:40. > :00:52.That would show some disrespect, wouldn't it? Lee Radford. Some words
:00:53. > :01:01.of encouragement from our guest of honour. Gareth Ellis. Adam Pearson,
:01:02. > :01:08.the Hull chairman and owner. We paid credit to him last year with the way
:01:09. > :01:10.he stayed faithful with his coach Lee Radford, and boy, is that faith
:01:11. > :01:32.being repaid in such great measure. Mark Minichiello, who, along with
:01:33. > :01:36.Gareth Ellis, could yet be the oldest ever Lance Todd Trophy
:01:37. > :01:43.winner. That special prize has been awarded every year since 1946. What
:01:44. > :01:48.part might Albert Kelly play in his first final four Hull FC, but his
:01:49. > :01:55.second representing the city of Hull, playing for Hull KR a couple
:01:56. > :01:58.of years ago. And the man who picked up the Lance Todd last year, Marc
:01:59. > :02:15.Sneyd. A lot of talk about 1985 in the
:02:16. > :02:20.build-up. Are we going to see another classic here today? Well,
:02:21. > :02:24.that was 32 years ago. There's a couple of stars, Lee crooks, Garry
:02:25. > :02:29.Schofield, who was controversially left on the bench and came on late
:02:30. > :02:36.and Shaun Edwards, who was 18 years old back in 1985, scored a try, his
:02:37. > :02:39.second Wembley final that year, of course, having played as a
:02:40. > :02:46.17-year-old the year before when Wigan played Widnes. Ladies and
:02:47. > :02:48.gentlemen, head of kick-off, we ask you please do stand for the national
:02:49. > :02:53.anthem, led by Kathleen green! # God save our gracious Queen
:02:54. > :03:51.Long live our noble Queen There's a real old-fashioned feel to
:03:52. > :03:56.Wembley today, isn't there? Andy Farrell and his son, Owen, who
:03:57. > :03:58.handed out the shirts to the Wigan players in the build-up to this

:06:37. > :06:42.fairy tales become reality and Wigan straightaway putting a marker of
:06:43. > :06:46.intense down. This big, physical Hull pack, receiving three or four
:06:47. > :06:51.men in a tackle each time. I think it will be about completing their
:06:52. > :06:57.sets and maybe getting repeat sets of six but as it is, very warm. Not
:06:58. > :07:03.a breath of wind down there so it will be important when they have got
:07:04. > :07:06.the ball. I think Wigan will be reasonably content with the way this

:07:12. > :07:15.Marc Sneyd's first kick of the day and Joe Burgess will get his first

:07:26. > :07:27.first defensive set, Wigan. They restricted the yardage, put pressure
:07:28. > :07:31.on the kicker, which allowed them to field the kick on the full, so the

:07:38. > :07:39.Liam Marshall takes it in, a reminder, Tom Davies,
:07:40. > :07:44.heartbreakingly for him, was ruled out half an hour before kick-off

:07:58. > :08:01.Mahe Fonua is back in his own in-goal area and that is significant
:08:02. > :08:06.because catching it there gives Hull a tap on the 20 metre mark and seven

:08:13. > :08:15.it is an easy tap and go for Hull. They invested all the energy and

:08:30. > :08:33.of dummy half by Jamie Shaul and a quick play the ball as got Josh
:08:34. > :08:39.Griffin travelling forward. Hull, moving within striking range, with

:08:59. > :09:03.tackle in the set. The kit is from Marc Sneyd into the in-goal area, he
:09:04. > :09:08.has overcooked it. Very safe take by Anthony Gelling and it is Wigan's
:09:09. > :09:11.turn to get the tap back on the 20 and the extra tackle and here is
:09:12. > :09:15.Liam Marshall, looking to get on the outside and dodging back again. It

:09:39. > :09:43.finishes to the sets from both teams and that will be one area of the
:09:44. > :09:46.game the coaches will want to fix pretty imminently. On days like
:09:47. > :09:54.this, the extra tackle means so much. Nuuausala trying to get to his
:09:55. > :09:59.knees to play the ball as quickly as possible. Back to Thomas Leuluai who
:10:00. > :10:03.puts a kick over the top. Interesting bounce! Back on the
:10:04. > :10:08.inside and Bateman, John Bateman is over for the game's opening try,
:10:09. > :10:13.with less than four minutes played. That was a kick that had some intent
:10:14. > :10:18.to it and had the skill attached, too. Very clever, they kicked early
:10:19. > :10:21.in the tackle count, back on the fourth tackle, the back three had
:10:22. > :10:32.not got back, the ball had bounced and as we all know, you should not

:10:55. > :10:57.receives it and Bateman is chasing enthusiastically to cross the try
:10:58. > :11:02.line. What a tremendous kick from Leuluai and that is why you should
:11:03. > :11:08.not allow a rugby league ball to bounce if possible. What was their
:11:09. > :11:11.intention, to put backspin on it, from Leuluai? I don't think so, it

:12:18. > :12:23.pretty certain... Lee Radford, sitting back in his chair. He has
:12:24. > :12:26.got a microphone on today so hopefully we will be hearing the
:12:27. > :12:33.kind of behind the scenes in motion from the coach at half-time at full
:12:34. > :12:39.time as well. Catch it! Catch it! They are covering the sidelines this
:12:40. > :12:43.time, the Hull back two, Tomkins cleverly dissecting them and putting
:12:44. > :12:48.the ball to the posts, pulling it up short, great kick from Tomkins. Mahe
:12:49. > :12:52.Fonua. What a big hit but he responded in kind and Michael
:12:53. > :12:56.McIlorum ended up flat on his back. I tell you what, it won't bother
:12:57. > :13:04.Michael McIlorum one iota because if he gets down, he get up again. A bit
:13:05. > :13:09.of a push, he was off-balance. Mahe Fonua is leaving at the end of this
:13:10. > :13:13.year, to join the west Tigers, cutting his stay in Hull short for
:13:14. > :13:17.family reasons. He seems to be heartbroken at having to leave. This
:13:18. > :13:21.Wigan side have done some work in the tackle area this week.
:13:22. > :13:27.Committing numbers and really working technically very well to
:13:28. > :13:32.slow the Hull play the ball down. The last, and back it comes for Marc
:13:33. > :13:35.Sneyd. A spin on that which makes it a little difficult for Tomkins, but
:13:36. > :13:41.safely pouched and forward comes Burgess. That will not trouble
:13:42. > :13:44.Tomkins. He kicked from far out on the wing and he will be happy with
:13:45. > :13:50.that. He will need an option because as the boys said in the studio, they
:13:51. > :13:55.will close down Snape so they will need a kicking option. Wigan have
:13:56. > :13:57.got Tomkins and Leuluai. Better kicking option for them. -- will
:13:58. > :14:16.close down Marc Sneyd. Gelling. So, the last play again on
:14:17. > :14:20.the set. Williams will put the kick high. Mahe Fonua underneath it and
:14:21. > :14:24.Burgess just being shepherded away cleverly by Josh Griffin, just to
:14:25. > :14:31.make his team-mate's job a bit easier and as a result, Jamie Shaul
:14:32. > :14:32.can try to bring it out. The Hull fans behind the end that Hull are

:14:48. > :14:50.struggle for Seeker Manu. But good contact from Williams, there. Really
:14:51. > :14:59.bent his back and hit with the shoulder. Liam Watts, driving it in.
:15:00. > :15:02.Nine away from the halfway line. Still a couple of tackles in the
:15:03. > :15:06.set, Hull, making heavy weather of it at the moment. Marc Sneyd
:15:07. > :15:11.threatening to kick but it goes to Jamie Shaul and now to Tuimavave,
:15:12. > :15:16.who is a classy player. The last play again, Hull still 40 away. Marc

:15:20. > :15:24.kick downfield and the chase is on from Kelly but Tomkins have it
:15:25. > :15:27.covered. -- has it covered. Picks up off the bounce and looks to see what
:15:28. > :15:32.is available but a good chase from the rest of the Hull defenders. Well
:15:33. > :15:36.dealt with by Wigan but Hull had a bit of success, shifting the ball to
:15:37. > :15:43.the edge and it bought Marc Sneyd the time to put in the kick but
:15:44. > :15:46.pretty well defused by Sam Tomkins. Gildart, spinning forward, skidding
:15:47. > :15:49.in, Tomkins quickly into dummy half. Farrell to his left hand side and he
:15:50. > :15:56.cuts in as well. Wigan finds the halfway line. Nuuausala. The big
:15:57. > :16:00.difference is the speed of the play-the-ball. Wigan are trying be
:16:01. > :16:05.quick play the ball, getting very good feed position for an easier
:16:06. > :16:08.kick for the half-backs. Another end over end kick from Leuluai but it is
:16:09. > :16:12.not going to be allowed to bounce because Jamie Shaul is in position
:16:13. > :16:17.but another great chase by Wigan. Look where they are. Hull starting
:16:18. > :16:21.deep inside their own half, they want one of the big men, one of
:16:22. > :16:31.their wingers, to try to give them a lift. It is a great tactic from
:16:32. > :16:33.Shaun Wane and the Cherry and Whites, the Wigan Warriors because
:16:34. > :16:35.they are turning this big Hull forward background, making them go
:16:36. > :16:38.the whole way back before they can get the ball forward. 40-2010 from
:16:39. > :16:42.Danny Houghton, well covered by Burgess. Takes it head height, clean
:16:43. > :16:45.as a whistle, runs back and look where Wigan are starting again, ten
:16:46. > :16:49.metres from the halfway line, they are winning the battle. They are and
:16:50. > :16:53.their line speed is very good, Wigan. That was frustration, taking
:16:54. > :16:57.very early in the tackle count, easily taken by the Wigan winger.
:16:58. > :17:00.But Wigan are investing lots of energy in restricting the go
:17:01. > :17:07.forward, a couple of the forwards were slow, back there, Tony Clubb
:17:08. > :17:11.and Connor but it is a good idea to restrict the go forward. And it's
:17:12. > :17:15.very warm down there so it will be draining of the afternoon goes on.
:17:16. > :17:21.Farrell did not play that properly. Was not on his feet. Easy penalty
:17:22. > :17:26.for the referee to get. Big lift for Hull. First penalty and good field
:17:27. > :17:29.position. What makes it even worse is that Liam Farrell is in
:17:30. > :17:34.possession of the ball. It is just sloppy. They have been really
:17:35. > :17:38.clinical and played attention -- paid attention to the detail of
:17:39. > :17:43.Wigan but that was sloppy and it has given Hull FC their first penalty
:17:44. > :17:46.about midfield. What can they make of it? Two balls on the field at the
:17:47. > :18:05.moment. Mahe Fonua taking one-off. Taylor. Just inside that Wigan half.
:18:06. > :18:10.Danny Houghton comes out and now Kelly has it. A little dummy shown
:18:11. > :18:15.but ankles taken away by Williams. Danny Houghton, across the field.
:18:16. > :18:18.Scott Taylor, being urged forward by the Hull bands. I think they wanted
:18:19. > :18:28.a bit more directness from the big fellows. -- Hull fans. A little step
:18:29. > :18:32.by Marc Sneyd and any acceleration but Bateman is all over him. Good
:18:33. > :18:35.start to the game for Bateman, attack and defence. Minichiello
:18:36. > :18:44.going left. Brought back towards the middle. Liam Watts get is an free,
:18:45. > :18:51.Liam Watts steps on the inside! Tries to power over, very close.
:18:52. > :18:55.Very good. Held up just short. Kelly steps back inside, still gets it
:18:56. > :19:05.away. Marc Sneyd with a kick to the corner. The big leap, a huge leap by
:19:06. > :19:09.Talanoa! He claims the try, celebrates the try, and Hull with
:19:10. > :19:14.their first attacking opportunity are right back in the game. They did
:19:15. > :19:19.not close down Marc Sneyd and that was a precise kick, on the button.
:19:20. > :19:25.With this guy running towards it, he has got such a height advantage over
:19:26. > :19:29.his winger, Marshall. Just watch it, out of the back door and a perfect
:19:30. > :19:36.kick. Just watch, he gets the jump, he gets above Marshall, brilliant,
:19:37. > :19:40.brilliant try by Talanoa. Exceptional dry, that one. Beautiful
:19:41. > :19:43.kick from Marc Sneyd, he knows Talanoa is taller than Marshall,
:19:44. > :19:48.landing it on Marshall's head and that is a great shot of Talanoa
:19:49. > :19:52.claiming the ball. But all that, Jonathan, came off the back of the
:19:53. > :19:56.penalty from Liam Farrell when Wigan were in possession. A stupid play
:19:57. > :20:01.the ball by Farrell and that is the result. You will see a lot of that
:20:02. > :20:08.because he was so good in the air, Talanoa. He has got such a height
:20:09. > :20:12.advantage. Over his opposite number. And it was a bit of an unstructured
:20:13. > :20:18.kick, with the off-load from Kelly before Marc Sneyd put in the kick.
:20:19. > :20:29.Said they are taking their time with the kick, here. -- so they are.
:20:30. > :20:34.Marc Sneyd was talking to us during the week, talking about the pressure

:20:40. > :20:43.whether it is for goals or kicking out of hand, he just loves the
:20:44. > :20:50.responsibility and now he's got the responsibility of giving his side
:20:51. > :21:05.parity again. Terrific take by Talanoa, wasn't it? It is a strange
:21:06. > :21:09.kicking style, isn't it? Backwards. They will be chanting his name if he
:21:10. > :21:16.is successful with this and he is successful with this and it is all
:21:17. > :21:19.square at 6-6. Crucial time for Wigan, the next ten minutes, they
:21:20. > :21:22.need to do what they started at the beginning of the game, control the
:21:23. > :21:28.speed of the ruck. Hull have the wind in their sales and they will
:21:29. > :21:33.turn up the tempo. I think both teams have really started very well,
:21:34. > :21:38.you know. When we speak about how hot the day is, Hull have completed
:21:39. > :21:41.six sets out of six, and Wigan five out of six so they are paying
:21:42. > :21:45.attention to the detail, looking after the ball to conserve energy.
:21:46. > :21:49.But it also shows how important it is to maintain your discipline. That
:21:50. > :21:53.penalty was the first real-time Hull had a good ball set and they came
:21:54. > :21:57.away with the points. We have seen that in the early run to the
:21:58. > :22:02.Challenge Cup, the field position for the penalty, has resulted in
:22:03. > :22:05.many tries. Liam Watts, looking to bring it out but the defence is just
:22:06. > :22:12.as determined to keep him right there. Bateman, industrious again.

:22:37. > :22:40.That is one the John Bateman. Yeah. Taylor is carrying the ball and
:22:41. > :22:44.Bateman gets right under it, it's with the shoulder and that is a

:24:16. > :24:21.again, what a take, competition between the winners, Mahe Fonua and
:24:22. > :24:24.Burgess goes up, brilliant take. I thought Wigan should have run the

:24:30. > :24:32.line -- up in the likeable when they shifted it, two buzzes, he held his
:24:33. > :24:36.nerve and stay deep and they should have gone through the hands and
:24:37. > :24:39.tried to Ribery 's -- to release Burgess against in with space and
:24:40. > :24:43.effort and to get a penalty on the back of that is a real bonus ball.
:24:44. > :24:46.Mahe Fonua grew up in the Aussie rules territory where taking that
:24:47. > :24:52.kind of catch came as a kind of second nature. An accidental rugby
:24:53. > :24:57.league player, if you like but what a rugby league player he has been in
:24:58. > :25:03.the last few years. Taylor. Five away from the halfway line. Danny
:25:04. > :25:09.Houghton. Inside two Ellis. Marc Sneyd with a dummy and any short,
:25:10. > :25:17.flat pass. Minichiello is a marked man.
:25:18. > :25:21.Kelly, we have seen glimpses from him so far and what about this
:25:22. > :25:26.fella, Seca Manu, who gets the ball away as well. Liam Watts maybe
:25:27. > :25:30.steals an extra yard as a result. Hull get a bit of meant, now. Kelly
:25:31. > :25:34.with the kick behind the winner, Burgess has to be sharp and has to
:25:35. > :25:38.go safety first to concede a drop out underneath the sticks. He had to
:25:39. > :25:43.do that, no doubt about that, Joe Burgess, it was the right option.
:25:44. > :25:47.They need to get oxygen in the lungs because they are tired but that was
:25:48. > :25:51.a good, clever kick from Kelly, bringing Burgess up, slipping behind
:25:52. > :25:55.him, they had to palm it dead and a repeat set from Hull, building the
:25:56. > :25:59.pressure at the minute. They are finding holes now I'm getting over
:26:00. > :26:02.the advantage line. That is when this guy steps in, he will see a
:26:03. > :26:06.quick ball on the front foot and that is where they are dangerous.
:26:07. > :26:10.I'm going to make a prediction, Dave, we seen a lot of these
:26:11. > :26:14.backline players shifting but I think a half-back, and inside ball
:26:15. > :26:18.will get one of these middle channel teams because both of the big packs
:26:19. > :26:22.are feeling the heat, and we are coming to 80 minutes, now. I think
:26:23. > :26:28.that is a definite method of getting points, playing through them. The
:26:29. > :26:32.cup final is simmering nicely on a hot August afternoon. Building and
:26:33. > :26:40.building, already two tries. But you sense plenty more to come. Danny
:26:41. > :26:44.Houghton to Gareth Ellis. What a professional he has been down the
:26:45. > :26:54.years. His debut in 1999, for Wakefield. His last year, this year.
:26:55. > :26:58.Kelly to Manu. Jamie Shaul marching up to dummy half. Kelly is away
:26:59. > :27:02.again, looking for the run, which is provided by Ellis. Wigan's defence
:27:03. > :27:07.being called into question but they are answering in the correct manner
:27:08. > :27:13.so far. It is left to Minichiello. He is nearly there. He nearly got a
:27:14. > :27:17.piggyback over the line, but just held short on the fifth tackle. Marc
:27:18. > :27:22.Sneyd puts the kick up again, reach by Griffin, the ball goes backwards
:27:23. > :27:28.and is collected by Mahe Fonua, who will claim a second Hull try! The
:27:29. > :27:34.referee is not sure. He's not sure. We are going to go to the video
:27:35. > :27:40.referee for the first time this afternoon.
:27:41. > :27:50.REFEREE: The live decision is a try. The first thing to check if the
:27:51. > :27:54.onside. They are all on site so we can lay through. The next thing we
:27:55. > :28:03.need to check is the catch, decide who it comes off.
:28:04. > :28:11.OK. Let's have a look it comes off a Wigan hand. Contact in the air is
:28:12. > :28:15.fine. Playing on from this. Now we are going to have a look at the
:28:16. > :28:16.pick-up which is clean. We're now going to go through to the
:28:17. > :28:45.grounding. Yeah, that is a try. Back-to-back Wembley tries for Mahe
:28:46. > :28:55.Fonua. Try scorer in 2016, try scorer in 2017 and Hull hit the
:28:56. > :29:01.lead. Tremendous work, once again, that man, Marc Sneyd, coming up with
:29:02. > :29:05.an absolute peach of a kick. The countdown on the Wigan line and he
:29:06. > :29:08.selects the kick, the contest just short of the goal-line, both sides
:29:09. > :29:12.go for it, it ricochets out to Mahe Fonua and there is the try,
:29:13. > :29:19.outstanding last tackle play from Marc Sneyd. Brilliant kick once
:29:20. > :29:23.again. Look at the arm going up. Griffin goes up. If the kick is
:29:24. > :29:29.accurate, it is so difficult as a defender, because you are planted on
:29:30. > :29:33.the other try line, you can't really get a run and jump on it so the
:29:34. > :29:40.advantage is with the onrushing attackers. These boys, we mentioned
:29:41. > :29:43.before the game, they are big lads. Shaun Wane mentioned that Hull were
:29:44. > :29:49.the bigger side and they are using it to their advantage but mainly
:29:50. > :29:53.through this guide's kicking game. And again it came off the back of
:29:54. > :29:56.field position, they got the field position for the first drive-through
:29:57. > :30:00.penalty and that was from a repeat set by Albert Kelly, field position
:30:01. > :30:06.is some imported is this game as is your last tackle kick players, three
:30:07. > :30:12.tries from kicks already. -- take place. His goal earlier was his
:30:13. > :30:18.300th for Hull, and in terms of career goals, 497 so far, and now
:30:19. > :30:22.498 so he could be reaching a big career milestone here today
:30:23. > :30:28.potentially. But Hull now lead 12-6. Trailing after four minutes, leading
:30:29. > :30:34.after 20. In all honesty, they deserve the lead. But the play still
:30:35. > :30:38.had to be executed to perfection. That is a genuine contest, Gildart
:30:39. > :30:42.has to go for it, the Hull centre is going for it and it comes free to
:30:43. > :30:46.Mahe Fonua for the try but again it's about field position and
:30:47. > :30:52.pressure and at the moment, Hull are inserting the pressure on the Wigan
:30:53. > :30:56.line. -- exerting pressure. They will get possession back again from
:30:57. > :31:07.the kick-off as well, taken safely by Jamie Shaul. Liam Watts. Well,
:31:08. > :31:11.the possession, Dave, has gone in Hull's direction, 66%, twice as much
:31:12. > :31:15.bull as Wigan Warriors at the moment, which is reflected in the
:31:16. > :31:19.scoreboard. That possession, allied with the field position which they
:31:20. > :31:20.have been getting, there, it is inevitable that points will be
:31:21. > :31:35.posted. The only two in this Hull line-up
:31:36. > :31:43.that did not experience Wembley 12 months ago. Scott Taylor. He played,
:31:44. > :31:50.of course, for Wigan back in the 2013 final. Winner's medal from that
:31:51. > :31:56.and win a's medal from last year as well. This is a searching high kick,
:31:57. > :32:02.Tomkins watches it come down out of a half cloudy sky and hands it back
:32:03. > :32:07.inside for Marshall to take it in. He has a penalty. Too much from the
:32:08. > :32:10.defenders, you may have heard the referee saying. That is the first
:32:11. > :32:17.Wigan penalty. At the minute penalties are few and far between.
:32:18. > :32:21.Wigan getting their second penalty, 2-1 to Wigan at the minute but they
:32:22. > :32:32.do need some ball and field position. Powell on from the
:32:33. > :32:42.interchange bench in that crucial dummy half position. Interchanges
:32:43. > :32:51.aplenty for Wigan to add some freshness to the situation they are
:32:52. > :32:57.in here. Here is Bateman. Powell. Williams, O'Loughlin, Tomkins, whose
:32:58. > :33:02.take is knocked down and the referee says play on. No, he doesn't. He'd
:33:03. > :33:05.dummied all of us, he was going to blow his whistle, then he decided he
:33:06. > :33:13.might not and then he did after all. Sam Tomkins on the edge. On this
:33:14. > :33:16.occasion Griffin gets it right by the extra man was there. If Griffin
:33:17. > :33:24.goes in he must make the tackle on Tomkins. Tomkins released it, he
:33:25. > :33:32.plays it and he goes on to Tomkins' body. It will be Wigan's head and
:33:33. > :33:37.feet, great opportunity for Wigan, repeat set in the Hull half of the
:33:38. > :33:42.field, the must make it pay. The Hull fans are billing because he
:33:43. > :33:50.didn't play at the ball. I'm telling you he did. It is Wigan head and
:33:51. > :34:00.feet. Here is Anthony Gelling, live wire in the early stages. Powell
:34:01. > :34:05.shaped up a dummy half a. Tautai. Wigan looking for your response. It
:34:06. > :34:08.is with Leuluai. Williams with the dummy and step, George Williams is a
:34:09. > :34:18.magical player but they just about got hold of him. They are going
:34:19. > :34:22.against the grain. Back to Leuluai. Tautai. Tomkins, quick camps.
:34:23. > :34:29.Gelling gets it but flicks it forward and the referee says he will
:34:30. > :34:32.give scrum head and feet to Hull. Credit to the Hull defence, they
:34:33. > :34:36.know what will happen, it's difficult to stop him, Youghal
:34:37. > :34:41.Williams and Tomkins coming in to create the overlap and the centres
:34:42. > :34:46.came in and spotted it and put pressure on Tomkins. They foiled two
:34:47. > :34:56.tax. Very good defence. It was Tuimavave who came in and it put the
:34:57. > :35:01.receivers of Wigan under pressure. Gelling played it and took a chance
:35:02. > :35:06.but not it forward. That's the danger, he is such a clever player
:35:07. > :35:12.he will come in and create the extra man on the outside. Wigan must work
:35:13. > :35:21.it out and play a little bit deeper. They can play deeper but stomach or
:35:22. > :35:27.they can put a kick in. Just for the momentum it is worth having. Hull
:35:28. > :35:32.are taking hold of the game, you can feel the confidence growing in this
:35:33. > :35:44.team. They look the best team at the minute by a fairway. Wigan beat
:35:45. > :35:50.Cronulla back in February to claim the world prize, Hull having beaten
:35:51. > :35:56.Warrington in a cup final last year. To hold the trophy they are playing
:35:57. > :36:01.for today. How to an out of dummy half. Sneyd. Inside it goes,
:36:02. > :36:08.Tuimavave. It's going to be put down. Three tackles still to go.
:36:09. > :36:13.Ellis straightens things up, honest endeavour again from him. Danny
:36:14. > :36:19.Houghton. Time to look up, consider his options. It goes to Taylor,
:36:20. > :36:24.Kelly, no luck pass from him into the hands of Josh Griffin. Griffin
:36:25. > :36:28.took it in and Wigan's defence looked the right way and they made
:36:29. > :36:34.the tackle, Kelly with the kick, there is some space but it's taken
:36:35. > :36:37.by Gelling. He has kept it in the field of play just about. He did
:36:38. > :36:43.well to stay in the field of play. Once again it was a good kick but
:36:44. > :36:49.the good kicks come on the back of quick play. No, no, no, no. They put
:36:50. > :36:52.in a great kick, got them under pressure meters from their own line
:36:53. > :37:05.and they go offside. It was a blatant one as well. Yes, it was.
:37:06. > :37:09.Way offside. The kick didn't have the height or position of Marc
:37:10. > :37:18.Sneyd's kick. Didn't need to go in on that tackle. Here is Gelling,
:37:19. > :37:31.wired, Powell. Williams looking for it. The paths is to yield out.
:37:32. > :37:33.Showing some pace. Griffin makes the tackle, Williams again. Wigan
:37:34. > :37:38.spreading it from one side or the other, Bateman cuts back in against
:37:39. > :37:47.the grain of the Hull defence. Leuluai. Tautai. O'Loughlin. Now
:37:48. > :37:52.Williams' pass goes to ground and it's kicked on and the referee says
:37:53. > :37:57.zero tackle, he's given Wigan an advantage, which they have got now
:37:58. > :38:02.with Burgess and it's the free play so Burgess can take a risk like that
:38:03. > :38:08.and he is almost in. Tackle count starts here. They might not need the
:38:09. > :38:12.full six. Were it not for the fact that Hull's defence was right on top
:38:13. > :38:16.of things. They've got to come left, tap and go, a lot of the Hull
:38:17. > :38:25.defenders have been drawn towards the ball on the far side. That was
:38:26. > :38:29.clever. As you rightly say... I'm sure they were happy to give away
:38:30. > :38:35.the penalty, let us regroup and get our defensive line set and then
:38:36. > :38:41.repel for this set of six. They were so short on the right-hand side
:38:42. > :38:45.defensively. The professional foul. They are taking their time, they
:38:46. > :38:49.have all of the tricks in the book to slow it down. Six tackles for
:38:50. > :38:58.Wigan. They have taken a kick to touch so they will go back on the
:38:59. > :39:05.ten. Six tackles for Hull to defend. For Wigan to chance their arm.
:39:06. > :39:13.Powell in a dummy half, Leuluai to his left but he's going short and
:39:14. > :39:20.flat instead for Ryan Sutton. Powell again. Wigan, taking shape, Williams
:39:21. > :39:24.cuts back inside. Steps away from the lunging effort of Ellis, keeps
:39:25. > :39:29.it alive when another tackle comes in. Gildart is on this left-hand
:39:30. > :39:36.side but can't find a path through. Good defence from Hull working
:39:37. > :39:42.really hard from the inside. O'Loughlin. Again, using the ball,
:39:43. > :39:49.Leuluai dummies and dummies. Tracked all the way. O'Loughlin. Bateman
:39:50. > :39:58.now. Little pockets of space opening up. Another set of six, Hull got a
:39:59. > :40:02.touch, here comes Sutton, put down. Six more tackles for Wigan to have a
:40:03. > :40:09.go. Exhausting passage of play for the Hull defence. Tomkins sees the
:40:10. > :40:16.gap. He has lost the ball in the in-goal area and Hull survive with
:40:17. > :40:21.some heroic defending. A desperate lunge by Tomkins has not paid off.
:40:22. > :40:27.They are all getting a bit excited as a result. They will be. Sam
:40:28. > :40:31.Tomkins will be frustrated because that was tackle one they lost the
:40:32. > :40:39.ball on and the Hull FC players let him know that as well. A bit of
:40:40. > :40:44.sledging, I'm sure. Desperate lunge by Tomkins. He thought that he could
:40:45. > :40:53.reach there. Just watch, they stood off him. He was too far away and
:40:54. > :40:59.just lost it. Great work from Tuimavave and Sneyd as well. I'm
:41:00. > :41:10.sure there was a bit of verbals when he lost the ball and that's when the
:41:11. > :41:18.incident occurred. There was a little use of the head by Marc
:41:19. > :41:25.Sneyd. Nothing in that. It will be interesting to see what the
:41:26. > :41:31.conclusion is. Get off my mate! There is some discussion going on.
:41:32. > :41:38.This is the original one. But then it is what happens next. Did
:41:39. > :41:42.Tuimavave have a little pop that Tomkins? I think they both did. It
:41:43. > :41:45.is clear that Sneyd said something and had a pop at him and then to
:41:46. > :41:55.did. Just watch Tuimavave's right-hand. There is nothing in
:41:56. > :41:59.that. Just watch should need. His face. Tuimavave has a little look
:42:00. > :42:05.back. The conclusion from that is there is not much in it. It will be
:42:06. > :42:16.an interesting decision. Just watch. I don't think there is much in it.
:42:17. > :42:22.REFEREE: Come and speak to me as well. Described as handbags by Phil
:42:23. > :42:27.Bentham, which I think sums it up. Let's see who takes this. Will they
:42:28. > :42:32.bring in one of the big fellows to take the first carry? I would
:42:33. > :42:39.suggest that is a possibility. Fonua could come along and take this.
:42:40. > :42:47.There is the challenge, if he carries the ball, send three or four
:42:48. > :42:53.defenders at him. That has livened things up a little. It is a cup
:42:54. > :42:56.final. The big fellows are not complaining because they got an
:42:57. > :43:02.extra breather while those little terriers were having a go. Here we
:43:03. > :43:07.go. The game is back on and Hull have a lot of work to do to get away
:43:08. > :43:13.from that end of the field. Wigan have come away with no points. Three
:43:14. > :43:22.sets to defend on their own try line. Sika Manu will take it on. The
:43:23. > :43:26.World Cup this live across all platforms on the BBC, October 27,
:43:27. > :43:29.England against Australia and then off we go, the rest of the
:43:30. > :43:40.tournament. The man alongside me, John Kear, involved, his Welsh side
:43:41. > :43:44.involved. Port Moresby. . Another touch by Gelling but it's the first
:43:45. > :43:50.one that counts. There is an element of fatigue. Around half an hour in
:43:51. > :43:56.this heat, one or two areas, it is creeping in and we will see who
:43:57. > :43:59.takes advantage. Minichiello off-loading into Duma Valley and
:44:00. > :44:07.Leuluai it was just lining up for one of his famous tough tackles
:44:08. > :44:14.there. But the ball was spilt. Just as well for Tuimavave's rips that he
:44:15. > :44:24.didn't catch the ball. -- ribs. Nine minutes of the half remaining. Here
:44:25. > :44:31.is Gelling. Powell is the man at dummy half. Tautai coming on with an
:44:32. > :44:39.adventurous surge. Making metres after contact. Putting Hull further
:44:40. > :44:44.on the back foot. Powell again. Leuluai. Tomkins spotted by the
:44:45. > :44:48.winger but bounced him off. They have to come up with a solution to
:44:49. > :44:55.the defensive work because they get in front of the ball and close the
:44:56. > :45:01.back man down. The centre or the winger, putting pressure on Tomkins.
:45:02. > :45:05.Plays him behind the back of Leuluai. Sutton, the big fellow,
:45:06. > :45:12.picks it up, the prop forward, runs it back, kick of their heels as he
:45:13. > :45:18.takes it in. He is the last player. Powell. O'Loughlin. It comes to
:45:19. > :45:21.Leuluai. Leuluai to Williams. Williams again, they are going to go
:45:22. > :45:29.for the try line and Gildart has found the try line. Well done. Well
:45:30. > :45:32.done, Wigan Warriors. Week spoke about Fonua, he held his ground
:45:33. > :45:38.waiting for the kick and he did similarly so there. But what George
:45:39. > :45:43.Williams did, he carried the ball at the line and caused that indecision
:45:44. > :45:47.and opened up that space for yield at to go through. Well done, Wigan
:45:48. > :45:50.Warriors. Well done, George Williams. We said they would have to
:45:51. > :45:56.come up with a solution and they did. Just watch, goes again, Tomkins
:45:57. > :46:00.at the back but instead of hitting Tomkins the hit Gildart, so they
:46:01. > :46:05.changed their tactic and it worked for them. Marvellous play, wasn't
:46:06. > :46:11.it? Brilliant player. Really good, Williams took the line on admit
:46:12. > :46:16.Griffin half turning in this space, Fonua held his width waiting for the
:46:17. > :46:21.kick and that's the area where Gildart goes. You can see Fonua
:46:22. > :46:27.worried about the wide stuff. Bang come through he goes and over he
:46:28. > :46:30.goes. Great try. Very clever play, changing a little bit of what they
:46:31. > :46:35.have done previously because the Hull defence have been very good.
:46:36. > :46:40.Just one little tweak of the attack and Gildart scorers. Very good they
:46:41. > :46:45.were running on the last play rather than doing the orthodox kick.
:46:46. > :46:51.Although kicking has been successful. Every try has been
:46:52. > :46:58.scored on the last tackle. George Williams, tough as they come.
:46:59. > :47:05.Challenge Cup final kick from the touchline. He will be disappointed
:47:06. > :47:11.with the end result. But 12-10. The final score last year against
:47:12. > :47:15.Warrington. Yes, it was. Look at the skill, great shift, O'Loughlin plays
:47:16. > :47:20.that well, lovely back man play, that injection from pace causes the
:47:21. > :47:25.doubt between Kellyanne Griffin which opens up the space where Fonua
:47:26. > :47:29.is held wide and threw went Gildart, real quality play from Wigan
:47:30. > :47:33.Warriors. The acceleration just got him on the outside, didn't it?
:47:34. > :47:41.Winding himself up and holding himself that the Black and Whites'
:47:42. > :47:46.line. Powell at dummy half. There is a spring in their step now for the
:47:47. > :47:52.Cherry and Whites. That is a good run. Gelling has got involved in a
:47:53. > :47:56.locked down the middle, hasn't he? The three quarters will be tasked
:47:57. > :48:02.with that, to go in and help the forwards, take the pressure off the
:48:03. > :48:10.big guys like Tautai. Tautai has done really well since coming on, he
:48:11. > :48:14.has carried them well. Wigan 30 away. Little kick over the top from
:48:15. > :48:21.Williams. The leap and safe pair of hands provided by Fonua but almost
:48:22. > :48:25.pushed towards the touchline. It was a good set. It was clever how they
:48:26. > :48:30.allowed him to catch the ball and clamped him and took him to the
:48:31. > :48:36.sidelines so he is out of play for this set of six. Here is Kelly,
:48:37. > :48:42.towards the winger, Talanoa attacks on the heavy duty of to take it
:48:43. > :48:47.forward. Andy Farrell played in many cup finals. I wonder if Owen will
:48:48. > :48:56.ever play in a Challenge Cup final. Picked up and taken forward by Danny
:48:57. > :49:03.Washbrook. Danny Houghton. It is going to be an attempted 40-20, is
:49:04. > :49:06.it? The winners have it covered. They have, both wingers and the
:49:07. > :49:12.full-back, well played by the Wigan back three. -- the wingers have it
:49:13. > :49:18.covered. Sean O'Loughlin took his time to get back in position. I
:49:19. > :49:19.think he caught one on the chin. Feeling the heat. He will have to
:49:20. > :49:36.get on with it, regardless of. Oh! Danny Washbrook there with an
:49:37. > :49:46.elbow in his face. I don't think it was intentional. OK, Dave.
:49:47. > :49:47.They have still got tackles in the bank, Wigan, they are advancing
:49:48. > :49:54.menacingly again. Here is O'Loughlin. It has switched to the
:49:55. > :49:59.Cherry and Whites now, hasn't it? Yes, it has. The last play, what can
:50:00. > :50:05.they do this time? Gelling skipping in the air, Hull's defends out
:50:06. > :50:09.smartly. All of the venom is taken out of that by Hull's responds
:50:10. > :50:13.getting forward and they get possession back 15 from their own
:50:14. > :50:18.line. I thought Gelling, having run the ball previously, as soon as
:50:19. > :50:24.Talanoa came up, that was when to put boot to ball and slide it in
:50:25. > :50:34.behind. He didn't look to off-load, just surrendered to the tackle, it's
:50:35. > :50:38.quite unusual. I tell you what, Dave, it's a good game. Danny
:50:39. > :50:42.Houghton is looking for a penalty and he gets the penalty. Clever
:50:43. > :50:48.dummy half, he knew the man was offside. I don't like that. It is a
:50:49. > :50:53.Challenge Cup final. I don't like that. Who could have got the pass
:50:54. > :50:58.away but you can't blame him for doing it. O'Loughlin was trying to
:50:59. > :51:07.get out of the way. He has plenty of time to pass that. But take the
:51:08. > :51:15.penalty, three minutes to go, now in an attacking position. As they start
:51:16. > :51:18.their set Shaun Wane feeling the heat metaphorically and physically
:51:19. > :51:25.because the sun is beating down on the touchline, which he will be
:51:26. > :51:39.occupying in a few seconds time. The sun is in Marshall's eyes, the
:51:40. > :51:46.winger's guys. -- eyes. Minichiello. Collecting at dummy half. Sneyd
:51:47. > :51:50.turns it away for Liam Watts. Onto his knees quickly, plays it quickly,
:51:51. > :51:55.Wigan not as set as they might have wanted to become a Kelly with the
:51:56. > :52:00.inside ball, Shaul has the opening but it closes as quick, the big
:52:01. > :52:03.Cherry and White door slams in his face but they have tackles to play
:52:04. > :52:07.with and what the position they are in, Sneyd puts the kick in, Marshall
:52:08. > :52:15.covers it, swallowed up with possession. Sneyd, cross kick once
:52:16. > :52:21.again. Last play, Sneyd puts it high, Burgess has come a long way to
:52:22. > :52:26.try and get in there. The flick pass away is taken by Powell. Began, such
:52:27. > :52:31.an advantage for the attacking side. He just gets above everyone, Albert
:52:32. > :52:36.Kelly. Penalty. 90 seconds remaining in the half. That was a great
:52:37. > :52:41.passage of play, high-quality, both attacking and defensively. Really
:52:42. > :52:45.good stuff what Hull are throwing at Wigan and what Wigan are serving up
:52:46. > :52:48.defensively and then the riposte coming. Look at the numbers Wigan
:52:49. > :52:53.have around the ball but still Kelly came up with it and then it was the
:52:54. > :52:58.last tackle and Powell comes up with the ball. Had it gone to one of his
:52:59. > :53:02.team-mates we would have been claiming that pass was a Wembley
:53:03. > :53:08.miracle but it was quickly forgotten because it went to a Wigan man. Good
:53:09. > :53:15.tackle, that tackle had to be made. Yeah. Here is Powell in a tangle.
:53:16. > :53:22.The referee wants to see this a little cleaner than it was so we go
:53:23. > :53:25.back to where we were. Explained the difference between that and that
:53:26. > :53:39.pass into somebody. Penalty. Powell. Williams. Stepping one way
:53:40. > :53:46.and then the other, Tomkins injecting himself. Gildart, big
:53:47. > :53:51.shoulder comes in from Mahe Fonua. Asking questions of Hull. The
:53:52. > :53:56.wingers sobering Doomur Dullung so well. Hull short of numbers, Farrell
:53:57. > :54:01.could not pick it up but here comes Mahe Fonua, having a look on the
:54:02. > :54:06.inside. Gildart makes the tackle but Hull are on the way, the hooter
:54:07. > :54:09.sounds. They can still play on. Leuluai gets himself in the way but
:54:10. > :54:17.then drops on the ball and the referee will blow the whistle to
:54:18. > :54:22.officially end the first half. Terrific stuff. Mahe Fonua's try,
:54:23. > :54:27.the second of Hull's brace, helping them to a 12-6 lead at that stage
:54:28. > :54:33.but Oliver Gildart with his score getting Wigan back in it, 12-10 is
:54:34. > :54:35.the scoreline. Let's go down to the touchline and I think Tanya is
:54:36. > :54:40.speaking to one of the Wigan players. What did you make of the
:54:41. > :54:47.first half? Very tough. Both sides trying to get
:54:48. > :54:51.used to the pace of the game and we settled in at the end, set Forsett
:54:52. > :54:54.but it has been a tough start to the game and the energy levels dropped a
:54:55. > :54:58.little at the end but both sides pleased with how they have done,
:54:59. > :55:07.made some improvements. What is the key to the second half for you guys?
:55:08. > :55:11.Don't give any penalties away. Gareth Ellis is on the Hull
:55:12. > :55:16.touchline. It is a physical battle but is it turning into a tactical
:55:17. > :55:20.one also? Disappointingly we are not getting to the end of our sets, and
:55:21. > :55:24.most of the game is played on our try line so we need to address that
:55:25. > :55:29.and play-the-ball at the other end of the field. Thank you, Gareth.
:55:30. > :55:35.STUDIO: A fascinating and really good game of rugby league, those are
:55:36. > :55:40.the stats from the first 40 minutes. Obviously you know that score. At
:55:41. > :55:45.one stage they put the graphic up in the first half when Hull had 67%
:55:46. > :55:48.possession to Wigan's 33, and look how it balanced up in the first
:55:49. > :55:53.half, Wigan have had more possession and more territory and most other
:55:54. > :55:58.things, very equal, tackle completion 91 and 93%.
:55:59. > :56:05.It is intriguing, isn't it? Strategy is unfolding, it is physical, there
:56:06. > :56:09.is some good all movement, is in great kicking, we have seen Wigan
:56:10. > :56:12.trying to work out Hull because they've been spooked in terms of a
:56:13. > :56:15.lot of players and got into the game and when we have seen Hull control
:56:16. > :56:19.the ball they look physically dominant and great on the kick
:56:20. > :56:24.reception. Both coaches have lots to reinforce and lots to put right. We
:56:25. > :56:28.have seen two very good sides, putting pressure on and dominating
:56:29. > :56:34.for a while. Wigan dominated in the first ten minutes for that period
:56:35. > :56:37.and then through the runs of Ellis and Watts and Taylor Hull worked
:56:38. > :56:40.their way back into the game and at the back end we have seen Wigan
:56:41. > :56:45.applying pressure. Good sides withstand the pressure which we've
:56:46. > :56:51.seen from both of them. Hull defensively managing to keep Tomkins
:56:52. > :56:54.out, a great tackle from Sneyd. Hull started the game powerfully, looked
:56:55. > :56:57.threatening with the ball but that being said Wigan with their fitness
:56:58. > :57:01.and dynamic nature of their team saw them come to prominence at the back
:57:02. > :57:05.end of the half. It was ball control, Hull could not control the
:57:06. > :57:08.ball at times in the first half and came up with mistakes inviting Wigan
:57:09. > :57:13.back into the game. Pre-match we spoke about the kicking game and we
:57:14. > :57:17.said that Hull probably had the better kicking game is
:57:18. > :57:21.understandably the first try came from a Wigan kick. It was a great
:57:22. > :57:27.execution by Thomas Leuluai for the first try. Heat advantage of Hull's
:57:28. > :57:31.strength, big outside backs, their weakness would then be them being
:57:32. > :57:36.able to turn quickly and get into position. Kicking behind Talanoa was
:57:37. > :57:40.a smart play they were slightly out of position. The kick finds grass
:57:41. > :57:45.but Anthony Gelling kept moving and Tuimavave gave up on the trace and
:57:46. > :57:49.that is a try. Sometimes these big games are defined by little
:57:50. > :57:55.competitions like that, Gelling kept moving. What a star. We said it was
:57:56. > :57:59.lucky bounce but luck meets hard work. There were more Cherry and
:58:00. > :58:02.White shirts than Black and White shirts and that's why they came up
:58:03. > :58:06.with the ball. You said it was a lucky bounce because an commentary
:58:07. > :58:11.they were talking about with a Leuluai put back spin on it. It is a
:58:12. > :58:15.lucky bounce all day. I tried to give him too much credit. Wigan kept
:58:16. > :58:18.moving and what defines Wigan being a good side as they work hard in
:58:19. > :58:23.those little battles, Gelling could have given up on it and nobody would
:58:24. > :58:26.have noticed. Tuimavave and Shaul got that wrong, played forward and
:58:27. > :58:33.they didn't expect the kick on the plate and that caught them short. It
:58:34. > :58:36.was a googly, wasn't it? Take us through the opening Hull try. I
:58:37. > :58:41.think you will spotted a similarity to a try in the semifinals. Yes,
:58:42. > :58:48.Shaun Wane before the game spoke about how we can meet De might beat
:58:49. > :58:51.Hull, not miss tackles, there is one missed tackle. It ends up in a try
:58:52. > :58:56.and it is chaos in the Wigan defence. He also talked about
:58:57. > :59:00.ineffective tackles, this is an ineffective tackle, Albert Kelly
:59:01. > :59:04.gets the ball away and this try is similar to the semifinal, pinpoint
:59:05. > :59:07.kick, we thought this plate was understandable. It is only
:59:08. > :59:09.understandable because of the missed tackles beforehand and Shaun Wane
:59:10. > :59:15.and Wigan will be disappointed with this because it's from missing
:59:16. > :59:18.tackles. It doesn't allow you to get set defensively. That flowed would
:59:19. > :59:24.have caused all manner of chaos to the Wigan defence of line -- that
:59:25. > :59:30.off-load. The kick was exceptional, puts them on the money. We sought
:59:31. > :59:34.Tuimavave scoring from the same skill in the semifinal, Hugh Lanham
:59:35. > :59:39.is the kick one metre from the opposition try line, consistently.
:59:40. > :59:43.It is an exceptional skill to have. -- he lands the kick. You hold your
:59:44. > :59:46.hands up to the kick as the opposition and so sometimes you
:59:47. > :59:50.cannot defend it and we are beaten by a sensational bit of skill. But
:59:51. > :59:55.as Jamie highlighted this is where it went wrong, in the missed tackle.
:59:56. > :59:58.That is the thing as a coach you can put right and as a player you can
:59:59. > :00:05.put right because they have said, with Sneyd who is the cute kicker
:00:06. > :00:09.you think he is, if you give him the time, they have offensive jumpers
:00:10. > :00:12.above them. The way to stop the Vista but the kicker under pressure
:00:13. > :00:16.and to do that you must do the things JP alluded to. Having got
:00:17. > :00:20.themselves level, and there is the Hull dressing room as they refresh
:00:21. > :00:24.themselves before the second half, having got themselves level they
:00:25. > :00:27.took the lead. Yes and Hull challenge to Wigan with ball
:00:28. > :00:32.movement and off the back of that, another Sneyd kick, Fonua came up
:00:33. > :00:36.with the try. What impressed me in the build-up to the try was the
:00:37. > :00:39.amount of ball movement Hull used, they challenged within defensively
:00:40. > :00:43.which is not something you associate with Hull but Kelly and Sneyd have
:00:44. > :00:48.been active on the ball. This kick again was on the money and that's
:00:49. > :00:52.just the competition, Hull had numbers in the frame, Fonua scored
:00:53. > :00:55.the try, not a fan of the put-down but it was a try nonetheless. In the
:00:56. > :00:59.sense that if you played against him that would wind you up. There was an
:01:00. > :01:04.opportunity to kick the ball out, no need. John was right, Hull caused
:01:05. > :01:08.chaos in the Wigan defence and being a powerful side and moving the ball
:01:09. > :01:11.around makes it difficult to defend. As a smaller guy you want to get set
:01:12. > :01:15.and trying to put your shoulder through summary but you can't do
:01:16. > :01:18.that when a side is moving the ball around all the time. Almagro played
:01:19. > :01:25.well in the middle period of the first half. They would have crushed
:01:26. > :01:29.a lot of teams but Wigan hung in. -- Hull played well. One of the
:01:30. > :01:31.trademarks of wooden is they control what they can, make sure they are as
:01:32. > :01:34.fit as everyone else in the competition and compete as hard as
:01:35. > :01:38.anyone else in the competition and that is what got them back into the
:01:39. > :01:43.game. Shaun Wane is really getting into them at the moment. Admittedly,
:01:44. > :01:46.we are only judging that on the body language and pointing at them rather
:01:47. > :01:50.than hearing what he is saying. He is reinforcing the got to go at the
:01:51. > :01:53.line, there are passes coming through but there will also be some
:01:54. > :01:58.clear coaching messages about going at the line rather than playing at
:01:59. > :02:01.the line, which is what he should talk about. Gildart has looked
:02:02. > :02:05.strong and fast with the ball and they are beating people one-on-one
:02:06. > :02:08.themselves, Wigan but Hull contributed to their own downfall in
:02:09. > :02:14.the first half, not downfall but the reason Wigan but then I got back
:02:15. > :02:19.into the game. That invited Wigan into their half.
:02:20. > :02:24.We talked about the contrasting dressing room spray much but it's
:02:25. > :02:28.contrasting at half-time. Lee Radford has dentist chair around to
:02:29. > :02:32.act more natural! Lee Radford is relaxed and his message will be
:02:33. > :02:36.about execution and retaining possession. Shaun Wane, on the other
:02:37. > :02:39.hand, for me, his forceful hand actions, what he is telling his
:02:40. > :02:44.teams to be direct and the Gildart try was exactly what Wigan needed.
:02:45. > :02:48.It was a punch into an inside job, being direct and that got Wigan the
:02:49. > :02:51.try. The Wigan attack, the shifts with many players was not as
:02:52. > :02:55.effective in the first half because they kept on going out the back
:02:56. > :02:58.trying to hit Sam Tomkins but we were speaking about them hitting
:02:59. > :03:03.lead runners, hitting the ball and the man in front, Gildart, hitting
:03:04. > :03:06.into the line, and a perfect drive. Hull defended Renny well, worked
:03:07. > :03:09.hard from the inside and forced people to the sideline but when you
:03:10. > :03:11.do that, you are susceptible to getting beat on the inside shoulder
:03:12. > :03:18.which is where Mahe Fonua gets beaten. I expect Bateman to be hit
:03:19. > :03:22.on the right Andy Farrell on the left, short balls all the time,
:03:23. > :03:26.trying to get in and through the Hull defensive line. That is where
:03:27. > :03:29.the secret is, Hull want you to play early so they can move across and
:03:30. > :03:33.solve the problem but when it is that the line, you don't get the
:03:34. > :03:36.time to react. That play was that the line which was the telling
:03:37. > :03:44.point. Thomas Leuluai went into the teeth of the Hull defence and made
:03:45. > :03:47.it hard, Griffin with a Paul Reid at the end but it made it hard to
:03:48. > :03:51.defend. If Wigan do go more direct at the line, can Hull change how
:03:52. > :03:55.quickly they get out? Of course. But it is easy to say. Hull can cure
:03:56. > :03:59.that by having more energy in defence and move quicker and not
:04:00. > :04:03.give the ball away. The solution for Hull all year has been Talanoa and
:04:04. > :04:06.Mahe Fonua coming in and smashing some answer when you are being
:04:07. > :04:10.passive, look out for Talanoa and Mahe Fonua deciding to be aggressive
:04:11. > :04:14.and shut it down. They've done it a couple of times nearly come up with
:04:15. > :04:18.a ball and forced Erazo -- errors from Wigan so that is what they will
:04:19. > :04:21.have to content with. Lee Radford's team talk has finished and they are
:04:22. > :04:25.towelling off and getting more refreshment. At the start of the
:04:26. > :04:33.game, I mentioned the player microphone we have had the last
:04:34. > :04:36.couple of seasons, a player wears it for us and we pick up all kinds of
:04:37. > :04:38.really interesting noises and insight from the field of play
:04:39. > :04:41.during the Challenge Cup campaign. Today, the Hull head coach himself
:04:42. > :04:45.has won it for us and this is how the first half went through his eyes
:04:46. > :04:55.and his mouth. What an atmosphere, isn't it? How are you, pal? All
:04:56. > :05:02.right? I appreciate your work. Appreciate that. Bring this home,
:05:03. > :05:09.now. Dangerous, dangerous. Dangerous, Mark! Really dangerous.
:05:10. > :05:25.Go on, then, big fellow. Come on. Yes! There she is! Good job. Oh, no,
:05:26. > :05:36.no. Yes. Get in! Yes! Good deed, good scramble. That is the one, that
:05:37. > :05:41.is the spot, that is the spot. He's very calm, isn't he? Admittedly,
:05:42. > :05:46.that is what we've been able to broadcast but he is very calm. But I
:05:47. > :05:49.think a coach has to be calm and consistent. You have seen out in a
:05:50. > :05:55.dressing room tour, he has been calm but some of that may be to do with
:05:56. > :05:58.wearing a microphone as well! We mentioned earlier, so much tradition
:05:59. > :06:03.around the Challenge Cup final and every year, there is a school 's
:06:04. > :06:04.final, a year seven schools final and when that took place earlier,
:06:05. > :06:24.Dave Woods was across it. COMMENTATOR: The final, as ever, is
:06:25. > :06:30.named after Steven Mullaney who played in the 1986 final and scored
:06:31. > :06:33.a driver Wakefield schools against St Helens. There he is but
:06:34. > :06:37.tragically, he was killed in a traffic incident the following year
:06:38. > :06:41.so that is why it is the Steven Mullaney final. The Castleford
:06:42. > :06:45.captain, no booth, opened the scoring with a stunning solo effort,
:06:46. > :06:54.really great footwork. He converted that as well. Love these moments,
:06:55. > :06:59.watch next week's Blue Peter to catch some of the magic. Saint
:07:00. > :07:03.Peters struck back, and cosily setting up Harris Brown. The
:07:04. > :07:11.Yorkshire side went in at half-time leading 6-4. Great carried, held up
:07:12. > :07:23.just short but quickly in at dummy half and that is a good snooping try
:07:24. > :07:30.out of dummy half. What a moment, to score a try at Wembley! The second
:07:31. > :07:36.half was all about Tyler Smudup, this is the first of his two tries.
:07:37. > :07:40.A popular fellow with that one and he scored again, went over the
:07:41. > :07:48.whitewash again shortly afterwards. That extended Castleford's lead with
:07:49. > :07:56.Booth scoring the extras. And that proved to be enough. Attacking kick
:07:57. > :08:01.right at the end of the game but the referee blew the whistle and plenty
:08:02. > :08:06.of cup celebrations and John Kear, what a great moment fall of the
:08:07. > :08:11.youngsters involved. Great moment for everybody who entered the field
:08:12. > :08:14.of play, there. Some real standard rugby league from one is so young
:08:15. > :08:19.and great to see the camaraderie that has already developed in a team
:08:20. > :08:24.sport. That is one of the things about playing in a team, you make
:08:25. > :08:36.and share memories and you get respect. Well done to Castleford.
:08:37. > :08:42.Well said, John Kear, absolute class on both teams. At the moment on the
:08:43. > :08:46.pitch during half-time, there is a Blue Peter challenge going on as
:08:47. > :08:49.they have tried to teach some of the blue Peter presenters the skills of
:08:50. > :08:56.the game so they are involved in that at the moment. If you want to
:08:57. > :09:00.watch... What has Kevin Sinfield got on his head? A camera. He's part of
:09:01. > :09:10.the challenge and if you want to see more of it, you can on Blue Peter
:09:11. > :09:14.this Thursday, 5:30pm, an CBBC. We have seen some stars of the future
:09:15. > :09:17.in the schools game but let's hears from some stars of the past, a
:09:18. > :09:22.couple of legends of the game, Wigan legend does well with Tanya.
:09:23. > :09:25.Mystic magic himself, Ellery Hanley, and I think you are still the
:09:26. > :09:30.youngest man to win the Challenge Cup. You are the guest of honour,
:09:31. > :09:36.what has it been like for you? -- Andy Farrell, I think you are. It's
:09:37. > :09:39.been tremendous. I look at my career and I have a look at the point where
:09:40. > :09:42.I started in terms of being a foot soldier to being a captain of a club
:09:43. > :09:47.and then being a captain of the country and then a coach, and then
:09:48. > :09:51.to give the trophy to the winners of the Challenge Cup final is just
:09:52. > :09:55.enormous. It has been such a privilege for me. Are you watching
:09:56. > :10:00.this, thinking you could put your boots on and do a job? Absolutely
:10:01. > :10:04.not! I've got all my faculties in place. I'm looking at it from both
:10:05. > :10:07.angles, from the players, they go into the changing room and they know
:10:08. > :10:10.what they have to do, the Wigan players know what they have to do to
:10:11. > :10:14.win this football game and so do the Hull players and from a coach's
:10:15. > :10:19.point of view as well. Andy, a quick word, how do you see it going?
:10:20. > :10:23.Obviously, two good sides playing extremely well together. I think two
:10:24. > :10:28.side who are coached very well as well. I wonder what the tactics will
:10:29. > :10:33.be like in the dressing room because I don't know who's going to win. Two
:10:34. > :10:36.very good side who looked very dangerous with threats all over the
:10:37. > :10:39.field so I am looking forward to the seven. I will let you go otherwise
:10:40. > :10:42.you will get swept up and end up out there yourselves!
:10:43. > :10:46.Just before we get the second half under way, let's here from the Wigan
:10:47. > :10:50.head coach. You were animated as ever in the dressing room, full of
:10:51. > :10:55.passion. What do you have to do to get over the line? Root finish the
:10:56. > :11:00.set is a bit better but I thought some of the attack was fantastic. We
:11:01. > :11:04.handled it a few times in the second quarter but the end of the sets need
:11:05. > :11:08.to be better. We troubled them when we did that. Fairly happy with the
:11:09. > :11:13.half. I think we will improve in a second. Thanks. As you can see, both
:11:14. > :11:17.sets of players are ready together the second 40 minutes. Let's rejoin
:11:18. > :11:23.the commentators, John Kear, Jonathan Davies and Dave Woods.
:11:24. > :11:29.COMMENTATOR: 40 minutes to settle it, extra time if needed for the
:11:30. > :11:33.very first time this year, the Challenge Cup has the potential of a
:11:34. > :11:37.golden point at the end of it, no replay this year. 1982 and 1954, the
:11:38. > :11:44.two replay years in the Wembley error. But it will be settled today,
:11:45. > :11:49.one way or the other. How do you see it going, John, from here on in?
:11:50. > :11:53.Again, like Andy Farrell, it is really anybody's game. I'm certain
:11:54. > :11:57.they will be fixing up certain aspects of the play but it was a
:11:58. > :12:01.tremendously high standard, the first half, in really difficult,
:12:02. > :12:07.warm conditions. Again, I feel that possession and field position are
:12:08. > :12:11.the key to the game. Moving up the dummy half, kicking away from the 40
:12:12. > :12:16.metre mark and it has bounced on the line and I think it hit the line
:12:17. > :12:20.which is technically out so it was an inch away from being a perfect
:12:21. > :12:24.kick but the extra inch has made it a pretty poor one from a Wigan
:12:25. > :12:31.perspective and a great lift for Hull. That is the difference, just
:12:32. > :12:36.watch... Yeah, six inches too far. That gives Hull a very good
:12:37. > :12:40.attacking early position in the second half. Trying to get a bit of
:12:41. > :12:44.field position, Tomkins, but credit to Jamie Shaul, I thought he policed
:12:45. > :12:48.that really well, if it had been in the field of play, he could have got
:12:49. > :12:54.it but it wasn't, so the first blow to Hull. What a position here, 40
:12:55. > :13:11.metres away from the Wigan line. An arm wrestle going on, Danny
:13:12. > :13:18.Houghton in our dummy half again. Chris Green steps and surges and
:13:19. > :13:22.takes his team a little closer. He did well there because great legs be
:13:23. > :13:25.drawn Wigan but he used his footwork to poke his nose through the
:13:26. > :13:31.defensive line. Tuimavave on the left-hand side, crunching, Bateman,
:13:32. > :13:36.from behind, Leuluai having already gathered in his legs. Marc Sneyd.
:13:37. > :13:42.Josh Bowden. Liam Watts. Hull keeping it alive but Liam Watts is
:13:43. > :13:50.going to be put down. Still a couple of tackles to go. Danny Houghton.
:13:51. > :13:56.Kelly again. Bowden once more, straightening things up. And the
:13:57. > :14:04.last play to come. Wigan, Wehrlein. Here comes Kelly. Marc Sneyd, a
:14:05. > :14:10.measured kick again, plenty back in cherry and white, not the least of
:14:11. > :14:15.them Anthony Gelling, and off the ball... Marshall, I believe. Liam
:14:16. > :14:18.Marshall has given away the penalty. They have switched Kelly Chad
:14:19. > :14:21.Marshall, gelding has gone wide, the taller man, to play on the wing for
:14:22. > :14:26.the last play but I'm certain Marshall ran across the line of
:14:27. > :14:30.Talanoa and he did and it's a penalty. There was no need to that,
:14:31. > :14:36.yes, you can start there but you can't make it that obvious. -- to do
:14:37. > :14:41.that. Yelling, they've swapped them over, gelding is the bigger man and
:14:42. > :14:46.he took it so contrary, didn't he? -- Jelling is the bigger man. This
:14:47. > :14:53.is building into a big moment of the game. A big moment for Hull because
:14:54. > :14:55.they got the first set deep in the opposition half, and they have
:14:56. > :15:04.played the full set out of another full Tampa -- camped on the Wigan
:15:05. > :15:08.line. Talanoa, having had treatment, has hobbled back into position, does
:15:09. > :15:18.not look comfortable but Hull with a set of six do have a go. Josh
:15:19. > :15:22.Bowden, solidly forward. Eventually plays it. Danny Houghton, it comes
:15:23. > :15:31.out. Marc Sneyd with a short pass. Liam Watts. Just short. Keeping the
:15:32. > :15:41.ball safe before playing it back again. Green. The Wigan defence
:15:42. > :15:44.rushing out quickly. Still three or four tackles to go, Danny Houghton
:15:45. > :15:48.again, Liam Watts involved again, Washbrook cannot keep it alive.
:15:49. > :15:56.Wigan hanging on a little, here. It is with Howden. Bowden. Danny
:15:57. > :16:00.Houghton, Marc Sneyd, into the in-goal area with the kick, Marshall
:16:01. > :16:02.takes it up but again has to concede the drop out underneath the sticks
:16:03. > :16:08.and they crank up the pressure, do the Black and Whites. Very good kick
:16:09. > :16:13.once again, the ball will come back to them now in attack again. Great
:16:14. > :16:17.skill that Marc Sneyd demonstrates because it is the weight on the
:16:18. > :16:22.kick, he is having to pick between onrushing defenders. This is their
:16:23. > :16:26.third set consecutively now, the Black and Whites. And they are in
:16:27. > :16:31.good field position. Great opportunity for them. Wigan will
:16:32. > :16:38.take every second they can to delay the restart, here. Put some oxygen
:16:39. > :16:41.back in the tank before they tackle another wave of Hull attack.
:16:42. > :16:58.Collected by Mahe Fonua. Josh Bowden. Ploughing it forward.
:16:59. > :17:02.Every time he's come on in the Challenge Cup campaign, he's made a
:17:03. > :17:06.good impression, Josh Bowden. He was terrific in the quarterfinals in the
:17:07. > :17:09.game against Castleford, short ball away and bouncing away, Kelly,
:17:10. > :17:13.almost true, Tomkins hanging on. Danny Houghton appealing to the
:17:14. > :17:17.referee. Now he spends it away. Marc Sneyd with a couple of dummies and a
:17:18. > :17:27.step! They were ready. They were ready. So, Minichiello stand and
:17:28. > :17:33.wait at dummy half. Liam Watts, not much to work with. Marc Sneyd is up
:17:34. > :17:38.for the last tackle, directing it. The same tactic. Here it comes, the
:17:39. > :17:42.last play, Marc Sneyd steepling it hide. Where is it coming down? It
:17:43. > :17:50.has gone through several pairs of hands. It's all over the place.
:17:51. > :17:54.Gildart picks it up. My word. Knock-on. How difficult is that to
:17:55. > :18:00.defend against? You know every time exactly what happening. The only
:18:01. > :18:04.talent you have got, is it going long or short? That one was short
:18:05. > :18:08.and it caused absolute chaos. But credit to Wigan, they got player
:18:09. > :18:12.numbers around the ball to defuse the situation. Wigan have got to try
:18:13. > :18:17.to keep their discipline and try to keep Hull out of the 20 metre area
:18:18. > :18:20.because they are so dangerous. They will be very happy, Wigan, because
:18:21. > :18:26.they defended three good ball so they will take that as a plus. As
:18:27. > :18:31.Williams takes it towards the halfway line, Wigan have not crossed
:18:32. > :18:36.the white line so far. All of the game played inside the Wigan half
:18:37. > :18:43.until Liam Farrell. A great team effort by both sides, we mention
:18:44. > :18:45.Jamie Shaul, Kelly, Tomkins, Williams, but there has not been a
:18:46. > :18:53.standout yet apart from Marc Sneyd's kicking. Jamie Shaul. That is a good
:18:54. > :19:00.chase. A very good chase, holding him up to control the run so the
:19:01. > :19:03.defensive line is set. The sun is still shining, one corner of Wembley
:19:04. > :19:20.bathed. Liam Watts, looking down the
:19:21. > :19:25.blindside. That is smart because there are some easy yards to be had
:19:26. > :19:33.down there. Now they search left again. Tuimavave. Kick pressure now
:19:34. > :19:37.and it is a great place to do it, from the sideline. Wigan looking for
:19:38. > :19:43.their 20th Challenge Cup final win here today, record extending but
:19:44. > :19:49.what about this gig? Oh, yes! Oh, yes! What a fantastic kick that is
:19:50. > :19:53.from Marc Sneyd. I tell you what, Wigan switched off, there. They had
:19:54. > :19:59.an opportunity and it looks like nothing kick but it has ended up
:20:00. > :20:04.brilliant. Just watch. The kick pressure is there. That guy can
:20:05. > :20:09.shell peas with his left foot, he's absolutely sensational. Brilliant
:20:10. > :20:14.kick. So their tap restart has given Hull position, here. A new rule in
:20:15. > :20:18.the 40-20 this year, the attacking team gets the tap so on they go,
:20:19. > :20:25.Danny Houghton, going to Kelly, who looks on the inside. A poor pass to
:20:26. > :20:29.Kelly, he had no option rather than take it up himself. Danny Houghton,
:20:30. > :20:34.back to Liam Watts, Marc Sneyd, who has got numbers on the outside.
:20:35. > :20:40.Minichiello is there. So are the Wigan defence, in numbers.
:20:41. > :20:48.Now it is with Kelly. Griffin came at real pace and power but he was
:20:49. > :20:54.the only option. Kelly chose to try to go himself.
:20:55. > :21:03.Washbrook, getting closer and closer. Liam Watts is coming. Pick
:21:04. > :21:07.him up. The lasted into the hands of Kelly. They are going to run it and
:21:08. > :21:11.he has got the path the way to Mahe Fonua! And the ball is left behind
:21:12. > :21:19.on the floor, and he thinks he has scored. What a finish this will be
:21:20. > :21:23.if it is given. The referee wants to look at it again. We'll want to look
:21:24. > :21:29.at this again. It is a great path as well. -- we all want. By the
:21:30. > :21:35.reaction of the players, he's scored. REFEREE: We have the live
:21:36. > :21:42.decision of a dry and we are looking at the grounding. He is in
:21:43. > :21:48.possession. Remains in possession and in the field. Still in
:21:49. > :21:57.possession. Feet in the air. Retains possession. That is a try.
:21:58. > :22:06.They know what is coming next. Mahe Fonua is leaving at the end of the
:22:07. > :22:12.year and he is giving those Hull fans aid to reflect leaving present,
:22:13. > :22:16.to already today. Fantastic finish, wasn't it? But it was very, very
:22:17. > :22:20.clever play indeed, we were expecting Marc Sneyd's kick but they
:22:21. > :22:23.went to the short side and Kelly, four Kelly, four against four which
:22:24. > :22:30.created the space for Mahe Fonua to grasp at the sideline. That is the
:22:31. > :22:33.start, the 40-20 from Marc Sneyd was the start of the pressure that
:22:34. > :22:39.seemed inevitable to end up with a try. He is where they come, four
:22:40. > :22:43.against four, the off-load is there and over it goes. Great try, great
:22:44. > :22:48.decision to run the ball rather than kick it on the last play. We were
:22:49. > :22:52.all expecting a kick and so the Wigan players were, but they ran it,
:22:53. > :22:58.Kelly producing the X factor and he produces the finish. Magnificent. It
:22:59. > :23:01.is a brilliant pass, a brilliant pass, the 40-20 and then the
:23:02. > :23:04.brilliant pass by Kelly but what a finish, man on man, against your
:23:05. > :23:13.opposite number, Mahe Fonua comes out on top. Well, the momentum has
:23:14. > :23:18.really gone to the Black and Whites in the early part of the half. It
:23:19. > :23:24.has been all Hull in the second half. It has. They have come out
:23:25. > :23:26.firing, repeat sets, the kicking game has been good and they've taken
:23:27. > :23:34.the opportunity, brilliant start to the second half for Hull. Two out of
:23:35. > :23:38.two so far, ten out of ten in terms of his kicking performance all
:23:39. > :23:45.round, Marc Sneyd. I tell you what, this is a big kick.
:23:46. > :23:55.If he gets this over, his side have a two scored lead. Right off the
:23:56. > :24:00.touchline. He loves the kicking pressure, curling it in. Curling it
:24:01. > :24:07.in. That is why he loves the kicking pressure, because he is so, so good
:24:08. > :24:12.at it and 18-10, Hull FC now lead. What a left foot that fellow has
:24:13. > :24:16.got. Absolutely fantastic kicking in general play but Jonathan, what a
:24:17. > :24:20.great goalkicker as well. Yeah, I think he's controlling the game, the
:24:21. > :24:24.standout player so far. The kicks will be tried and for the 40-20, and
:24:25. > :24:32.crucially, the convergence, you know, could make the difference --
:24:33. > :24:37.conversions, you know, could make the difference. Tomkins with the
:24:38. > :24:52.restart, 18-10, Hull lead, 30 minutes of the cup final remaining.
:24:53. > :25:08.Liam Watts drives it in. The Hull fans in great voice, the old
:25:09. > :25:13.faithful, Lee crooks' kicking game in 1985, it still hurts that he
:25:14. > :25:18.missed so many conversions. He will be happy you brought that up. But
:25:19. > :25:23.the Hull gig of 2017 is banning them over. Great set by Hull, simple,
:25:24. > :25:27.effective, which the halfway, kick and look where Wigan have got to
:25:28. > :25:31.start. Some tired bodies wearing cherry and white at the minute, this
:25:32. > :25:39.dominance of possession and field position by Hull has put the
:25:40. > :25:41.pressure on Wigan after the first 11 minutes of the second half. They
:25:42. > :25:44.have certainly controlled these 11 minutes of the second half. They
:25:45. > :25:46.played a bit wider than I expected in the first half. The first 11
:25:47. > :25:55.minutes, they have gone back to basics. Bateman does well and gets a
:25:56. > :25:59.good pass away to Williams, and Williams... Well, Mahe Fonua came in
:26:00. > :26:04.to make a crunching effort on Gildart. The ball slips away from
:26:05. > :26:09.the Wigan man. They are claiming a Hull Dodge. Jon Wilkin said at
:26:10. > :26:12.half-time, you know what is going to happen, the wingers, the big,
:26:13. > :26:16.physical wingers are going to come in and hit you. He's outnumbered. He
:26:17. > :26:23.makes the call. He does not get the ball. But he foils Wigan once again,
:26:24. > :26:27.the two wingers defensively are very good. As the guys in the studio
:26:28. > :26:30.suggested, you need to hit the short ball, the lead runners come or go
:26:31. > :26:35.against the grain, stepping in, hitting inside passes. You can't
:26:36. > :26:39.keep doing that because you got no time or space to receive the ball.
:26:40. > :26:44.But if you know they are coming in, you have got to hold your depth. You
:26:45. > :26:48.have one eye on the winger, one on the ball. You've just got to manage
:26:49. > :26:53.the situation and make that beneficial to you so that you can
:26:54. > :26:58.get the pass away. But they have not counted it yet. The only way they
:26:59. > :27:02.have counted it is a show and go by Gildart but not using the long ball.
:27:03. > :27:08.They have to work it out, Wigan, because that is the only ploy they
:27:09. > :27:12.have. All of the noises coming from the Hull end at the moment. They
:27:13. > :27:22.can't get into the Hull half, can they, Wigan. No. They really can't.
:27:23. > :27:31.Danny Houghton waiting patiently at dummy half. Back to Marc Sneyd, in
:27:32. > :27:34.the angle, Tuimavave. That is where you go at Wigan now where they are
:27:35. > :27:38.tied because that middle unit have done a heck of a lot of tackling.
:27:39. > :27:44.Danny Houghton is bringing a way to Josh Bowden, pushing on a couple of
:27:45. > :27:53.defenders. A little impact, a little cameo from Josh Bowden, getting as a
:27:54. > :27:56.yard or two. -- and XDR. When Marc Sneyd steps up, Kelly goes on the
:27:57. > :28:01.fourth tackle. Last play, Marc Sneyd is waiting, a good kick, Marshall
:28:02. > :28:10.came out, the ball is knocked on, the referee, so I'll will get the
:28:11. > :28:14.head and feet. Was it Mahe Fonua or Burgess? It is Burgess. Well, a
:28:15. > :28:21.different kick once again, flatter. It really made it a one-on-one
:28:22. > :28:26.contest. Burgess has been ruled as knocking the ball forward. Let's see
:28:27. > :28:31.what happens. Every kick is a contest. I don't think that is a
:28:32. > :28:36.knock-on. It has gone backwards. Well, the guy in the middle does,
:28:37. > :28:40.and that is all that matters. Only one guy makes the call but I
:28:41. > :28:45.thought... Wigan are under the cosh needed a referee's or then as well.
:28:46. > :28:48.If Hull score in this set, I think they've got it, I really do and they
:28:49. > :28:52.are likely to because the Wigan Warriors are very tired, with all
:28:53. > :28:59.the defence they have done in the first 12 minutes, nearly 30 minutes
:29:00. > :29:04.of the half. Look at the growing excitement and anticipation from the
:29:05. > :29:08.black and white supporters. They consented, Dave, absolutely. Another
:29:09. > :29:12.key moment in the cup final. Hull with five tackles to go from here.
:29:13. > :29:26.Leading as they do 18-10. This is Chris Green. Danny Houghton
:29:27. > :29:31.it is. Options right and left. It is rolled and actually lost and that is
:29:32. > :29:36.an opportunity thrown away by Hull. Sloppy, very sloppy play. It is most
:29:37. > :29:42.unlike them. They got the head and feed because there was a Wigan hand
:29:43. > :29:47.in there, he has decided. John Bateman is not happy. Tony Clubb, it
:29:48. > :29:51.plays on his arm. That is not a knock-on by Wigan. Now Wigan have
:29:52. > :29:57.had two unlucky calls, I feel. That is not a knock-on. He should look.
:29:58. > :30:01.Tony Clubb has played the arm, not the ball. Exactly, and if they score
:30:02. > :30:12.from this, that could be controversial. Here is Tuimavave,
:30:13. > :30:16.Hull on the verge now, on the edge. Tuimavave put-down, Danny Houghton
:30:17. > :30:21.out of half. Now Marc Sneyd, offering it back for Josh Bowden,
:30:22. > :30:25.who is put down face first. He gets up and place. Danny Houghton is
:30:26. > :30:28.bringing out, into the hands of Liam Watts who will take on the line
:30:29. > :30:37.himself! Oh, it was close. That close. Oh, and the play-the-ball, a
:30:38. > :30:42.bit snappy. I'm not sure Danny Houghton was ready for that. Somehow
:30:43. > :30:46.they have still got the ball. Showing a great desire, Wigan, to
:30:47. > :30:51.defend but it must be taking it out of them but well done. Well done to
:30:52. > :30:55.them. I'm glad they are -- that nothing came of that decision
:30:56. > :30:59.because it was the wrong decision by the referee. But what has happened
:31:00. > :31:03.is it has taken lots of energy out of them. They look out on their
:31:04. > :31:06.feet, Wigan Warriors. I can understand why, in this heat and
:31:07. > :31:10.with that amount of pressure that they've had to absorb. Watch this,
:31:11. > :31:15.Gildart, Ben Marshall, they are all going to take it in, give the
:31:16. > :31:21.forwards a rest, try to get as far afield as they can and put in a
:31:22. > :31:25.good. There you go. Anthony Gelling, on the three quarters line, getting
:31:26. > :31:28.involved in heavy labour and now Sean O'Loughlin, looking to lift his
:31:29. > :31:31.side as captain. No support runners whatsoever. Not much in the tank at
:31:32. > :31:46.the moment. Leuluai, Hayat hopeful, Talanoa
:31:47. > :31:50.underneath it is safe as well. -- high and hopeful. I don't know if
:31:51. > :31:53.they should have rolled bat out of play to get some oxygen back into
:31:54. > :32:01.their lungs because they must be out on their feet. Minichiello.
:32:02. > :32:13.Tuimavave trying to push his man out of the way and pick it up again.
:32:14. > :32:20.Three plays to go in this set, Hull looking for distance down the field.
:32:21. > :32:26.Looking to win it back on the back foot again here. It's the last
:32:27. > :32:30.tackle, they have all three wingers and full-back back. Marshall wasn't
:32:31. > :32:37.sure whether to stick or twist. In the end he just slipped. Good for
:32:38. > :32:42.him. He has lost it, the ball has come out and Hull will get the ball
:32:43. > :32:50.back, the referee says, we will take the first knock-on. Hull get head
:32:51. > :32:57.and feet. The momentum is all with Hull. The decisions... He loses his
:32:58. > :33:01.footing first of all, he gets up, he's just got to take this in and
:33:02. > :33:11.take the tackle. He just panics a little. My word, there is some stick
:33:12. > :33:18.in that shot. I think it was Tuimavave who got his shoulder into
:33:19. > :33:25.Young Lea Marshall there. There is an element of confidence there. They
:33:26. > :33:30.feel the cup is coming home. On the evidence of this first 17 minutes of
:33:31. > :33:36.the second half you've got to say it's going up to Yorkshire. The boys
:33:37. > :33:42.spoke about experience in the studio. This is where the
:33:43. > :33:45.experience... Hull have lost possession, Danny Washbrook. This is
:33:46. > :33:50.it, when you've got someone and you need to put them away, they've made
:33:51. > :33:53.crucial errors now, unforced errors, Hull command Lee Radford will be
:33:54. > :34:01.thinking, I hope this doesn't come back to haunt us because you've got
:34:02. > :34:05.the experience. They've been let off the hook and now is an opportunity
:34:06. > :34:14.to get their breath back. That could be a pivotal moment, you are dead
:34:15. > :34:18.right. They were clinging on to the cliff. Here is Gildart. Motoring
:34:19. > :34:30.well just inside the Hull half, five tackles to go, 25 metres to cover.
:34:31. > :34:46.Burgess moves out of the way, McIlorum. McIlorum. O'Loughlin.
:34:47. > :34:50.Leuluai. Bateman. Wigan up and running. McIlorum stepping away from
:34:51. > :34:58.the debris of that tackle. Williams with the step. They have done a good
:34:59. > :35:04.job on George Williams. They have reached the sixth tackle, the last
:35:05. > :35:10.player, Leuluai's kick looks long. Poor decision, that should have been
:35:11. > :35:12.on the ground and a repeat set to recharge the battery. When you
:35:13. > :35:17.compare how Hull FC are finishing their sets to help Wigan are
:35:18. > :35:32.finishing their is therein lies the tale of the game. Here is Watts.
:35:33. > :35:38.Sean O'Loughlin going back out there has been really important to them,
:35:39. > :35:47.he has reenergised them in the middle channel. 12 months ago they
:35:48. > :35:53.were slaying the history, this year is all about building a legacy.
:35:54. > :35:56.Danny Houghton. Minichiello just pushing his way
:35:57. > :36:00.through the line but they are hanging on and Danny Houghton moves
:36:01. > :36:08.quickly into dummy half again. Here is Sneyd. Gareth Ellis. There we
:36:09. > :36:15.are. Sneyd off-loads. Stepping away from the oncoming Tony Clubb, gets
:36:16. > :36:21.the kick away, Marshall goes up and claims that. Really well. That is a
:36:22. > :36:26.confidence lift a. Well done, Marshall because he slipped and fell
:36:27. > :36:27.and lost the ball, that is not a comfortable position to be in and
:36:28. > :36:51.he's done really well. Leuluai. Bateman. Williams available
:36:52. > :36:58.inside on the pass and it was not expected by George Williams. The
:36:59. > :37:06.knock-on has lifted Hull hearts again. They get head and feet in an
:37:07. > :37:10.attacking position. The fatigue is a factor now, the lack of
:37:11. > :37:14.concentration, dropped passes. I'm sure if John Bateman wasn't quite as
:37:15. > :37:19.tired as he is, because he was on his haunches in the previous set, we
:37:20. > :37:24.would have seen him rip in with a carry rather than looking for the
:37:25. > :37:31.pass. This is Hull's to win now, it really is. They've got Wigan really,
:37:32. > :37:40.really under pressure. The feature of the 85 final when these two setup
:37:41. > :37:43.the classic is the comeback by Hull. Can Wigan produce a come back here?
:37:44. > :37:51.Doesn't look like it at the moment, does it? Until the next try is
:37:52. > :37:55.scored, which way it goes you can't say. Kelly. Here comes Shaul, the
:37:56. > :38:02.full-back, looking on the outside. It is going to be a Wembley
:38:03. > :38:10.hat-trick. If it is given. The referee is going to the big screen.
:38:11. > :38:17.What a huge moment this would be. He says no try on the field so Let's
:38:18. > :38:24.hear again from James Child. REFEREE: The line decision is no
:38:25. > :38:27.try, checking for an obstruction. We need to go back to the
:38:28. > :38:33.play-the-ball, let's look through the passing movement, looking for
:38:34. > :38:37.the option runner and the effect on the defence. Is the defence
:38:38. > :38:42.materially disadvantaged? We'd play it on now, that is OK. Play on
:38:43. > :38:48.through, looking at the next runner as he comes through. Keep Gelling. I
:38:49. > :38:53.think it is on this passage of play now. Here we are, contact by Griffin
:38:54. > :39:00.on the outside shoulder which impacts on Gildart, so that will be
:39:01. > :39:05.no try. I just need to confirm the position on the field. I think it is
:39:06. > :39:15.the 20 metre line, 20 metres from the try line. No try.
:39:16. > :39:19.COMMENTATOR: The Hull fans, here the referee, they are celebrating a try,
:39:20. > :39:24.Fonua thinks he has got the try. Putting the hold on the Hull
:39:25. > :39:30.celebrations, it is obstruction. It was obvious from the first play, he
:39:31. > :39:34.ran at Gildart's outside shoulder. I give credit to Oliver Gildart, he
:39:35. > :39:39.could have hit the deck and made it blatant but he actually tried to
:39:40. > :39:43.work his way to get at the runner. If he doesn't get blocked he gets to
:39:44. > :39:52.Shaul and Burgess sticks on Fonua and they don't score. The right
:39:53. > :39:57.decision. Now they need to settle and get a repeat set. They need
:39:58. > :40:02.repeat sets and to spend sometime in the Hull half. Because, Hull have
:40:03. > :40:05.been totally dominant in the second half. The only saving grace is they
:40:06. > :40:11.have not scored yet and then the try. There is an age left in this
:40:12. > :40:16.cup tie. Look at that territory in the second half. You would think
:40:17. > :40:21.they have scored enough points from the possession and dominance they
:40:22. > :40:28.have had. Total dominance. One try. Just one try in the second half.
:40:29. > :40:35.Leuluai back to O'Loughlin. Penalty for Wigan. That's what they wanted.
:40:36. > :40:43.Penalty for Wigan. They can really have a go at Howell now. The fatigue
:40:44. > :40:48.will set in four Hull as well. Bateman. They need to work off the
:40:49. > :40:54.ball. To offer options and push to take defenders off the ball. At
:40:55. > :41:00.dummy half it's a big effort, over the line! Tony Clubb claiming it one
:41:01. > :41:09.way or another. He might go to the video referee. And then he touched
:41:10. > :41:12.it down. REFEREE: We have no try, could you check on the play of the
:41:13. > :41:17.ball. We are checking on how the ball came
:41:18. > :41:28.out. Live call, no try, checking how the ball comes out. Is the ball lost
:41:29. > :41:37.or is it stolen? Clubb attempted to go over. Can't see the ball, there
:41:38. > :41:44.it is, there is the ball, I don't have a clear view of how that comes
:41:45. > :41:50.out on that shot. Tuimavave is on the ball. OK, do we have another
:41:51. > :42:08.angle? So there is two players in the
:42:09. > :42:12.tackle. We see the ball as he attempts to turnover, Clubb attempts
:42:13. > :42:17.to turn over and the ball comes out. I need to see whether it is pulled
:42:18. > :42:24.out or whether he loses it. So, he attempts to roll over. He is in
:42:25. > :42:34.possession. In possession. The ball comes out.
:42:35. > :42:53.OK, so Tuimavave is here, he is on the ball. Is there a clear pull on
:42:54. > :42:58.the ball? In my view he is on the ball but I don't think he pulls the
:42:59. > :43:10.ball. Have we got another angle on that? OK. So, as Clubb turns over
:43:11. > :43:14.and Tuimavave is on the ball to me there is no clear pulling action and
:43:15. > :43:21.to me it's as much Clubb turning it in attempting to score. It will be a
:43:22. > :43:33.knock-on and 20 metre restart. COMMENTATOR: Well, you heard the
:43:34. > :43:40.explanation. Tony Clubb denied. They can't believe it. He can't believe
:43:41. > :43:44.it. You can hear the explanation there but you can disagree with it.
:43:45. > :43:49.It is a big call. It is the wrong call in my mind, no doubt. I think
:43:50. > :43:57.it was a steel as well. You would have given a try? Yes. I would. I
:43:58. > :44:02.thought Tuimavave pulled the ball out. It is always difficult with try
:44:03. > :44:06.scoring, what is the defender going to do? But on that occasion I think
:44:07. > :44:11.he stole it. Hull survive with their 8-point lead. They have a penalty
:44:12. > :44:24.year as well. That's frustration from Clubb will stop just a little
:44:25. > :44:29.high. What a story that would have been, Tony Clubb, thought his career
:44:30. > :44:32.was over in April and very nearly eight Wembley try scorer, Challenge
:44:33. > :44:39.Cup final try scorer, but denied that moment of glory. How often do
:44:40. > :44:44.we see this, you don't get a try, you are under pressure, the odds of
:44:45. > :44:50.scoring on this set of six. I think that penalty was born out of
:44:51. > :44:56.frustration. At the moment, no try or not, it has proved this cup final
:44:57. > :45:00.is still alive. Hull not able to rest on their laurels. Minichiello.
:45:01. > :45:11.O'Loughlin comes flying out. Minichiello rides the tackle. Here
:45:12. > :45:20.is Kelly. Danny Houghton to Green. Chris Green pounding it forward.
:45:21. > :45:26.Eight metres away. Hampton to Kelly. Kelly to Shaul who cannot find a way
:45:27. > :45:32.through because of those Wigan defenders. Here comes that last play
:45:33. > :45:36.again. -- Houghton. The big fellows are after it and it is Gelling who
:45:37. > :45:46.has lost it but he is impeded in midair. It is a penalty for Wigan.
:45:47. > :45:51.Yes, I think he pushed Marshall. It was a simple block and then you can
:45:52. > :45:54.see here, Tuimavave, there was a push on Marshall and that interferes
:45:55. > :46:05.with Gelling catching the ball as well. The danger signals, once on
:46:06. > :46:18.the last tackle. Gelling. The first man to carry it forward. For all of
:46:19. > :46:24.the dominance in the second half, Hull have had, distillate final in
:46:25. > :46:27.the balance. Farrell with a lovely pass out to Burgess who puts his
:46:28. > :46:34.head down and knew he would be tackled and tried to get the ball
:46:35. > :46:39.away. Great angles by the full-back. He backed his pace, showed him the
:46:40. > :46:44.outside, picked the spot on the touchline and nailed him. That was a
:46:45. > :46:50.great tackle from Jamie Shaul. He is confident in his space. Joe Burgess
:46:51. > :46:55.knows he will be caught, tries to get the ball inside but he has
:46:56. > :46:59.wrapped up that ball carrying on, magnificent covering tackle from
:47:00. > :47:05.Jamie Shaul. I still think there is a moment of magic in this, when you
:47:06. > :47:12.look at the players, Williams, Tomkins, Shaul, Kelly. It has been a
:47:13. > :47:14.great game. You've got to applaud the Wigan Warriors, simply their
:47:15. > :47:18.courage and their determination and their desire to stay in this game.
:47:19. > :47:38.Yeah. So, Hull with some heavy labour to
:47:39. > :47:45.get away. I wonder what the nerves are black watching on from both
:47:46. > :47:52.sides. I don't think it's too bad yet. Depending on which way the next
:47:53. > :48:03.try goes. Quick hands and good hands as well. Pulled down and dragged in.
:48:04. > :48:08.Sneyd not looking for anything clever on that occasion. He just
:48:09. > :48:12.wanted to finish there and put Wigan on the back foot and he has achieved
:48:13. > :48:20.that starting with head and feet, 15 metres from their own line. While
:48:21. > :48:25.there is two sculls in it they can afford to do that, they will get
:48:26. > :48:30.oxygen back into their lungs, they have a set in hand. It is a smart
:48:31. > :48:50.move. -- scores Mac in it. Preparing for another burst of Old
:48:51. > :48:55.Faithful, From The Supporters. This has been a good final, a really good
:48:56. > :49:02.final. Like you say, you get a sense that there is a twist to come. There
:49:03. > :49:09.is something yet to happen in the 12 and a bit of minutes that remain.
:49:10. > :49:21.Certainly not settled just yet. Williams. It is in a Hull hand. I
:49:22. > :49:28.don't think the referee picked that up. Here is Farrell.
:49:29. > :49:31.Marshall. There was an air of desperation about that play from
:49:32. > :49:35.Wigan. The referee has not seen that, he's continued the tackle
:49:36. > :49:44.count, this is tackle five, the last tackle. Tomkins is the man on the
:49:45. > :49:50.inside. They are going through hands again. Williams. Gildart, Shaul,
:49:51. > :49:53.collect is off the bounce, how good is the return from Jamie Shaul?
:49:54. > :49:59.There is an air of desperation in Wigan. There is plenty of time on
:50:00. > :50:04.the clock. I think both teams have been really high-quality. I think
:50:05. > :50:13.they have. The difference has been the end of the set. Sneyd's has been
:50:14. > :50:22.first-class. Wigan's has been a bit scratchy. Out of dummy half. Taylor
:50:23. > :50:27.galloping on. Houghton. Again the noises coming from the Hull fans,
:50:28. > :50:33.the Wigan fans sitting and watching, hoping. Little their side can do
:50:34. > :50:37.here other than tackle. Here is Green. The tackle number five put
:50:38. > :50:42.down 35 metres out, looking for the touchline. A similar script again,
:50:43. > :50:47.put it out of play as far away from their own line as possible and Hull
:50:48. > :50:50.know they can just defend this set of six. He's doing what all good
:50:51. > :50:55.half-backs should do, managing the game in his team's favour and it is
:50:56. > :51:00.really good, clever play from the number seven for Hull FC Marc Sneyd.
:51:01. > :51:04.They desperately need a line break now, Wigan. They have not had one in
:51:05. > :51:10.the second half. They have played everything from their own 20 metres
:51:11. > :51:16.area because of the dominance of Hull. They need something special to
:51:17. > :51:20.happen. George Williams, Tomkins. I am with you, Jonathan, the vast
:51:21. > :51:25.majority of Wigan's set starts have been within their own 20 metres.
:51:26. > :51:30.Very few sets have started at midfield or deep in Hull's half.
:51:31. > :51:38.Trying to move quickly downfield here. Just short of the 40 metre
:51:39. > :51:47.mark. Bateman will take it in now as well. Shoving LS out of the way,
:51:48. > :51:51.McIlorum. Leuluai. Williams. Tomkins chiming in with a little step but
:51:52. > :52:00.look at the numbers in Black and White that surround the Wigan
:52:01. > :52:06.full-back. O'Loughlin. Williams. Leuluai's kick. Marshall is on the
:52:07. > :52:12.chase. It is a poor kick. Marshall told Leuluai to put it through, he
:52:13. > :52:18.was on the hoof but the kick was overcooked. The weighting was just
:52:19. > :52:25.wrong. He needed to pull up in the field of play. Even in the in-goal
:52:26. > :52:31.area it would have been a repeat set. He just didn't want to put it
:52:32. > :52:36.over the touchline. With the draining nature of this final, Wigan
:52:37. > :52:39.wanted the referee to stop the clock. There was a real effort
:52:40. > :52:42.required, you could see in the body language of the Wigan players
:52:43. > :52:46.dragging their bodies there before he stopped the clock. Moments of
:52:47. > :52:54.contemplation from those in Cherry and White. You tend to find that
:52:55. > :53:00.when the weather is like this, the team that has the most ball wins the
:53:01. > :53:13.game and that's been Hull FC by a fair amount. Tuimavave put down.
:53:14. > :53:25.Connor for Hull. Playing in his first cup final today, Jake Connor.
:53:26. > :53:28.Danny Houghton. Here is Taylor. Watts stepping. He has the
:53:29. > :53:37.wherewithal to roll the ball away again. Taylor and Watts are
:53:38. > :53:43.outstanding forwards. They not only carry the ball well but they ask
:53:44. > :53:49.other questions as well with their off-loads and pre-line play. Awkward
:53:50. > :53:53.for Marshall. Does he let it roll? It has not gone out of play. That
:53:54. > :53:58.was an inch perfect kick from Sneyd and it made the job of Marshall even
:53:59. > :54:10.more difficult. A very good kick. Is he working his way to a second Lance
:54:11. > :54:20.Todd Trophy here? For me, yes. Only one man has done it before, Paul
:54:21. > :54:26.Wellens. Penalty for Wigan. Now then. Field position. They need the
:54:27. > :54:30.tempo picking up here, a good long kick, which it isn't really. They
:54:31. > :54:41.needed to get more yards on that one and now they need the tempo picking
:54:42. > :54:46.up. So, a set of six for Wigan from which they need to score. Hull, you
:54:47. > :54:52.fancy, will consider surviving this set as inching them, perhaps,
:54:53. > :55:01.unstoppably close to lifting the Challenge Cup for a second
:55:02. > :55:05.successive year. 20 yards away. O'Loughlin. Leuluai. Hull's defence
:55:06. > :55:13.came out quickly. Leuluai try to punch in the hole that was left.
:55:14. > :55:18.Here is O'Loughlin. Powell. Again the defence is out really quickly.
:55:19. > :55:26.Yeah, the defence of Hull FC has been exceptional.
:55:27. > :55:29.O'Loughlin going for the big paths to Farrell and now they have some
:55:30. > :55:36.numbers with a wonderful ball away and Joe Burgess has just ignited
:55:37. > :55:43.this cup final again. A try in the corner. There is not that long left
:55:44. > :55:49.but there might be long enough left. We knew they had a lot of character.
:55:50. > :55:53.They have piled in in the second half at that penalty gave them field
:55:54. > :55:58.position and it was a beautiful pass by Farrell that but Burgess over.
:55:59. > :56:07.That was a great shift, from one side of the field to the other. Was
:56:08. > :56:13.his foot on the line? That might be one where Wigan got away with it.
:56:14. > :56:17.There is the field position, ask the question of the right side, but what
:56:18. > :56:21.a lovely pass from Sean O'Loughlin and a great pass once again across
:56:22. > :56:25.the face of defenders to Burgess. They shifted in there. They could
:56:26. > :56:32.have pushed, lovely long pass. I think they panicked, they could have
:56:33. > :56:42.pushed, the first defensive mistake Fonua has done. That was a brilliant
:56:43. > :56:52.pass to unlock the defence. That wasn't the half-backs, that was the
:56:53. > :56:56.loose forwards. Williams' kick. He has put it wide. 18-14.
:56:57. > :57:03.I'm not sure if you can feel the atmosphere through the TV screen but
:57:04. > :57:07.it's amazing down here, both sets of fans going crazy. Everyone has
:57:08. > :57:13.everything to play for, keep your eyes glued to your TV sets.
:57:14. > :57:16.There is not much of a breath to be had inside Wembley Stadium at the
:57:17. > :57:20.moment because of the heat and closeness but it is a case of hold
:57:21. > :57:27.your breath now for the five and a half minutes that remain. Wigan have
:57:28. > :57:34.fought back but Hull still have fingertips wrapped around that
:57:35. > :57:40.trophy. Discipline for Hull. Discipline is the key now. Gildart
:57:41. > :57:44.picks up and has a go. He keeps the ball alive in an untidy fashion and
:57:45. > :57:49.here is Marshall on the right-hand side. He didn't fancy the outside
:57:50. > :57:52.root. Safety first for the young winger. They might as well take the
:57:53. > :57:58.odds now because it doesn't matter how many you lose by. They are
:57:59. > :58:02.keeping it up. O'Loughlin over the top, batted on, here is Burgess
:58:03. > :58:07.again, Burgess with the kick. Why has he kicked? The chase is on, easy
:58:08. > :58:12.pick-up for Danny Houghton and Hull will be very happy with that. On the
:58:13. > :58:15.second tackle he had no need to kick, they were all coming across.
:58:16. > :58:20.He just had to take the tackle and come back this way. I think that has
:58:21. > :58:29.cost Wigan any chance of the Challenge Cup. It really has. There
:58:30. > :58:36.was Burgess there on the wing. As you rightly say, the Hull defence
:58:37. > :58:41.was shot, they were scrambling, they just needed to play. It was a
:58:42. > :58:49.brilliant pass. It was and a lovely play by Gildart, so why on play two.
:58:50. > :58:58.He just had to come in away from the touchline attack the inside arm of
:58:59. > :59:03.Kelly and take the tackle. There were so many black-and-white players
:59:04. > :59:07.back there. It is a brilliant scramble defence. Brilliant scramble
:59:08. > :59:09.defence by Hull. But he had to hold the ball and come back this way and
:59:10. > :59:33.go away from the traffic. Gareth Ellis concerned with the back
:59:34. > :59:36.of his neck here. There may well be the possibility that that was
:59:37. > :59:52.dangerous contact. That's not intentional. That is Liam Farrell.
:59:53. > :59:59.Jamie Jones-Buchanan talked how about how difficult it is not to go
:00:00. > :00:04.down. He stayed on his feet, he didn't drop to his knees, I think
:00:05. > :00:18.that is just play on. I hope he is OK. Player's health is important.
:00:19. > :00:23.The last Challenge Cup final, as we have said, for Gareth Ellis. He will
:00:24. > :00:27.want to see it to the finish. Yes, he will, and he's made a good
:00:28. > :00:34.contribution as well. There is four minutes and 33 seconds left. There
:00:35. > :00:40.is still a cup final to be won and lost. Is there another twist in the
:00:41. > :00:47.tail? He is OK. The clock was stopped throughout that so four and
:00:48. > :00:51.a half minutes to play. It's been simmering nicely throughout the
:00:52. > :00:58.afternoon. Is it coming to a boil now? It has been a great game.
:00:59. > :01:03.Unless you are actually here, the heat is unbelievable and for them on
:01:04. > :01:06.both teams, putting the effort in has been fantastic and it's been a
:01:07. > :01:14.really good rugby league Challenge Cup final. Big kick here, go for the
:01:15. > :01:17.40-20. McIlorum came racing out. Sneyd still got some distance on the
:01:18. > :01:21.ball but not the direction he might have wanted. It is taken by Marshall
:01:22. > :01:28.who runs it back. Marshall almost slipping away. Five tackles to go in
:01:29. > :01:34.the set. Gelling springing into life.
:01:35. > :01:42.They might have two sets, this one and one more, maybe. Farrell. They
:01:43. > :01:47.have just got to play, you know, off-load, move the ball about.
:01:48. > :01:52.Bateman, damaging limbs and lungs with his effort as he takes it to
:01:53. > :01:55.within 40 of the Hull line. Hull's defenders desperate to hang on.
:01:56. > :02:01.O'Loughlin in the middle of the field, where he loves to be.
:02:02. > :02:05.McIlorum out to the right hand side. Anthony Gelling has it again, stops,
:02:06. > :02:10.starters, starts again, almost fool them but not in the end, Talanoa
:02:11. > :02:16.makes the tackle. This is a big play. On the sixth, Leuluai goes
:02:17. > :02:22.left to O'Loughlin, now it is a run by Williams. Almost! Wigan, inches
:02:23. > :02:28.from the line. That is how close it is. Now, then, a big set for Hull.
:02:29. > :02:31.Hold possession and just watch the Wigan defenders come here. They've
:02:32. > :02:35.got them in their corner and they will be flying into the Hull
:02:36. > :02:40.ball-carriers now. Great place to turn the ball over. What a tackle.
:02:41. > :02:45.We had that great individual moment with Danny Houghton, tackle 52 and
:02:46. > :02:53.all of that but that is more of a team effort. Watch this line speed
:02:54. > :03:01.now. Wigan tried to force a mistake. Hull want to keep it safe. Beside
:03:02. > :03:08.himself, Lee Radford. Hull looking to blast it away. Wigan will get the
:03:09. > :03:15.ball back. But when, where and how is the big question. Minichiello.
:03:16. > :03:21.Trying to make the yard. He's left a man on the floor as well. Do they
:03:22. > :03:26.have dispute for ten metres? Tuimavave gets further. Hull have
:03:27. > :03:31.done well here. Covered some distance. Done so well, the 40 metre
:03:32. > :03:36.line-out. From the position they were in, right in the corner.
:03:37. > :03:41.Brilliant. A big kick to come in and of Kelly who hammers it downfield.
:03:42. > :03:46.As he found touch? He has and Wigan will -- to form a scrum and get the
:03:47. > :03:52.referee to stop the clock and they know that this will be their last
:03:53. > :03:55.chance -- Wigan will dash back to form. The clock has stopped, a
:03:56. > :03:59.minute and 45 which is more than enough for a full set of six but
:04:00. > :04:05.they have they got it left in them to go 90 metres? And Marc Sneyd is
:04:06. > :04:12.the Lance Todd Trophy winner today, we can confirm that. For the first
:04:13. > :04:17.time since Paul Wellens did it in 2006 and 2007, he is a back-to-back
:04:18. > :04:20.Lance Todd Trophy winner. He's deserved it, he really has, and
:04:21. > :04:24.because he has controlled the game, the end of the sets have been
:04:25. > :04:28.superb, he's caused all sorts of problems with his kicking, been
:04:29. > :04:33.absolutely fantastic, Marc Sneyd, but the game is not over yet. Not
:04:34. > :04:40.over yet. The last role of the dice. This is a deciding set of six, you
:04:41. > :04:46.feel. Wigan with six tackles, make that five, and still, 90 metres to
:04:47. > :04:50.cover. That is what Kelly's kick gave them the problem, if you're
:04:51. > :04:56.going to school, you've got to go 90 metres, against a tough, aggressive,
:04:57. > :05:00.energised defence. They might be out on their feet, Hull, but they will
:05:01. > :05:06.lift here in defence but Williams and Gildart, Gildart coming in.
:05:07. > :05:11.Decent play. The defence has been good from Hull today. O'Loughlin,
:05:12. > :05:15.spinning it along the line, Powell, to Leuluai, to don good, quick hands
:05:16. > :05:19.away, here comes Marshall but a very narrow corridor in which to run and
:05:20. > :05:26.the Hull defenders make it narrower still as come across. Two plays to
:05:27. > :05:33.go. Leuluai, Tomkins. They searched on the left, they search on the
:05:34. > :05:36.left. Oh! That is forward! It is a forward pass! The Wigan fans are
:05:37. > :05:42.celebrating. Burgess Dodi had every right to celebrate but the ball was
:05:43. > :05:49.flicked forward and that is a decision which surely confirms the
:05:50. > :05:53.cup is Hull's. -- Burgess thought he had. What a fantastic game we have
:05:54. > :05:58.bad and when you think how close the teams have been, it is illustrated
:05:59. > :06:04.here, a great pass, palmed forward, just, let's not make any bones about
:06:05. > :06:09.it, it was forward, the officials on the field got it exactly right but
:06:10. > :06:14.what a final we have had. Again, defence, look at it, he makes a
:06:15. > :06:18.decision. He causes Williams, he can't take and give the ball again,
:06:19. > :06:21.the Hull defence have come up trumps and a great finish by Wigan, they
:06:22. > :06:28.threw everything at them but they have just fallen short. What a game.
:06:29. > :06:36.25 seconds to go. But Hull in possession. Lee Radford... This will
:06:37. > :06:42.not be going far, this ball. And we play the ball will be slow, I would
:06:43. > :06:48.suggest, Jonathan. One, maybe two. Here we go. Two sets of forwards
:06:49. > :06:54.packed together for the last time today. Hull in possession. They hope
:06:55. > :07:01.to bring this game to its conclusion. Danny Houghton. Wigan
:07:02. > :07:04.are trying to dislodge the ball. Thomas Leuluai throws himself at it
:07:05. > :07:13.but it is still Hull who have it. Seven seconds to go. Slowly by
:07:14. > :07:19.Taylor. A step on the inside by Talanoa. The hooter has sounded by
:07:20. > :07:25.Talanoa is three! The daily Talanoa can finish with a hat-trick but
:07:26. > :07:32.unselfishly he goes to Taylor, who will take the tackle underneath the
:07:33. > :07:37.sticks. Gareth Ellis leads with delight. Hull have won the cup final
:07:38. > :07:42.for the second year in a row. Who do, well and truly gone. I think it
:07:43. > :07:47.was a brilliant game of rugby league and I think Hull have deserved that
:07:48. > :07:50.result on the second half performance, they dominated
:07:51. > :07:53.possession and territory and unfortunately, they could not get
:07:54. > :07:59.another try from all of the pressure but what a great comeback by Wigan
:08:00. > :08:03.as well and the last forward pass was the difference. Fantastic final
:08:04. > :08:07.for rugby league. It has been a fantastic final, it is a game of
:08:08. > :08:11.inches and those inches, with that forward pass, absolutely fantastic,
:08:12. > :08:14.two teams who have given absolutely every thing, high-quality, high
:08:15. > :08:16.everything. Let's go to the touchline where we are with the
:08:17. > :08:26.winning coach. Lee Radford, many congratulations,
:08:27. > :08:29.twice either grow. Sounds good, music to the ears, fantastic effort
:08:30. > :08:32.and I said at half-time, the boys don't give in, it was going to go to
:08:33. > :08:35.the 80th minute and that is instilled in them from the coach
:08:36. > :08:38.downwards and they did not disappoint. We had to fight for
:08:39. > :08:43.everything today. We went into a shell a bit in the last ten minutes,
:08:44. > :08:46.on the edge of my seat slightly but a special effort, special group,
:08:47. > :08:51.special supporters, special club. What was the last couple of minutes
:08:52. > :08:56.like? They thought they had an equalising try. Some phenomenal
:08:57. > :09:00.efforts, the tackle 52 standout but there's been a couple of those
:09:01. > :09:06.today. That is what working for one another gets you, results. What an
:09:07. > :09:10.achievement from Marc Sneyd, Lance Todd Trophy winner for the second
:09:11. > :09:14.year running. Probably the most criticised half-back the club has
:09:15. > :09:17.ever had and win two Lance Todd Trophy is a phenomenal effort from a
:09:18. > :09:22.phenomenal player. You can't defend against some of his kicking. You
:09:23. > :09:27.can't, as much as you try, he's got it on a string and a good kicking
:09:28. > :09:32.coach, I've done a bit myself! No, he's a phenomenal player.
:09:33. > :09:36.Congratulations, well done. A big hug from the coach will Marc Sneyd,
:09:37. > :09:40.the Lance Todd Trophy winner. Put into words your feelings right now.
:09:41. > :09:47.It is hard again. Unbelievable again. -- unbelievable effort. It's
:09:48. > :09:50.great. Your heart must have been enormous towards the end of the game
:09:51. > :09:57.when it looked like they'd equalised late on. It did but... Yeah, I don't
:09:58. > :10:01.know. I don't think anyone will take it away from us. Unbelievable. Tell
:10:02. > :10:07.me about your kicking game because you were once going to be a
:10:08. > :10:10.footballer, weren't you? It was an option, I suppose but obviously, I'm
:10:11. > :10:14.over the moon for days like this in rugby. It's a dream. You had to do
:10:15. > :10:19.it the hard way, this was even tougher than last year in many ways.
:10:20. > :10:24.For the last two years, we have won it two years on the bounce and had
:10:25. > :10:27.the toughest runs possible. Like I said, no one can take it away from
:10:28. > :10:29.us. We have earned everything we have got. Here is your champagne.
:10:30. > :10:41.Enjoy! Scott, what does that feel like?
:10:42. > :10:45.Unbelievable. I generally don't... I mean, last year I did not have much
:10:46. > :10:51.left in the tank. But the boys, that was tough, the toughest game I've
:10:52. > :10:55.played in my life, to the death, to the last minute, so we made it hard
:10:56. > :11:02.for ourselves but to go back to back, and all of my family are here,
:11:03. > :11:05.20-30, to see the team do that, unbelievable. I know how special it
:11:06. > :11:10.was the last year but back-to-back Challenge Cups, what is it like?
:11:11. > :11:13.Unbelievable, the great teams do that, lots of teams win one but to
:11:14. > :11:16.go back to back you have do have a special group and we've put
:11:17. > :11:20.ourselves in history now and there's still more trophies to play for this
:11:21. > :11:30.year so we're buzzing. You are going for the double? Why not? Gareth
:11:31. > :11:33.Ellis, the Hull captain is with us. What a way to end your time in the
:11:34. > :11:36.Challenge Cup. Unbelievable and nothing more than the team and the
:11:37. > :11:38.club deserves. I thought we worked really hard today, Wigan made it
:11:39. > :11:41.tough but I thought we were the better team and we dug it when we
:11:42. > :11:45.needed to and I'm glad when the whistle went at the end and we were
:11:46. > :11:48.on the right side of the result. You seem to turn the screw especially in
:11:49. > :11:52.the second half against teams in the Challenge Cup. How does it work? I
:11:53. > :11:55.don't know, I thought we were outstanding, we seem to save our
:11:56. > :11:58.best performances for the Challenge Cup, we've done it again this year
:11:59. > :12:02.with the tough teams in the run-up and it has served as well because
:12:03. > :12:05.the effort and togetherness was unbelievable today. With all the
:12:06. > :12:10.success you have had in the game, how does this compare? It's right up
:12:11. > :12:15.there, amazing to retire in a couple of weeks and the dream was to finish
:12:16. > :12:18.up there and I've got the opportunity to do that today and the
:12:19. > :12:23.season goes on as well, my fairy tale continues. They made it ten you
:12:24. > :12:27.towards the end, Wigan. They did and that is Wigan, they stay in the
:12:28. > :12:29.game, they never let the scoreboard get away from them and they would
:12:30. > :12:32.give themselves a chance with the great players they have got on the
:12:33. > :12:37.field and they made us work hard for it today. A word about Marc Sneyd,
:12:38. > :12:41.winning the Lance Todd Trophy for the second year running, not many
:12:42. > :12:44.people have done that, what an achievement. Outstanding, he
:12:45. > :12:47.controlled the game really well, his kicking game was superb, his kicking
:12:48. > :12:52.for gold is unbelievable, he's a great asset for us and we're lucky
:12:53. > :12:56.to have him, a matchwinner. Well done, Gareth, congratulations.
:12:57. > :13:02.Sean, did you think your site had done it in the last few seconds? I
:13:03. > :13:05.thought we had a chance but I'm not sure we deserved it. The
:13:06. > :13:09.distribution in the second half was not good enough. Clicking on the
:13:10. > :13:12.full, penalties on last place, we gave ourselves a lot to do. We did
:13:13. > :13:18.not put them under enough pressure in the second half. Quite rightly,
:13:19. > :13:23.they are the winners. Was it just the final decision-making, do you
:13:24. > :13:26.think, from your team today? Yes, we make a line break, we kick it out,
:13:27. > :13:29.we needed to build pressure and we did not do it enough in the second
:13:30. > :13:33.half to win a game of this magnitude. You need to be smart with
:13:34. > :13:36.your last played and get to the end of your sets and we did not do that
:13:37. > :13:41.in the second half. What did you think of the Tony Clubb try? Should
:13:42. > :13:46.it have been given? I did not understand that. He said they
:13:47. > :13:49.dropped it and I thought it was a poor goal but I don't want it to
:13:50. > :13:52.take away from what Hull did, they deserve to win the game so I'm not
:13:53. > :13:56.saying we should have won the game because we were not good at the day.
:13:57. > :13:59.You have to pick the guys up quickly because you cannot afford to lose a
:14:00. > :14:03.game if you're going to make the top four. We don't need motivation for
:14:04. > :14:11.the St Helens game, it is a big game for us but I've got a strong group
:14:12. > :14:13.and they will does themselves down. They will be gutted with what
:14:14. > :14:18.they've dished up today. I'm proud of them but we will turn up on
:14:19. > :14:22.Friday. Thank you for your time. COMMENTATOR: Anthony Gelling GDB
:14:23. > :14:28.slow walk up the steps in a little cluster, 12 ahead of him. Thomas
:14:29. > :14:31.Leuluai dragging himself up there. This is the walk that nobody wants
:14:32. > :14:33.to do at the end of an exhausting Challenge Cup final. For every
:14:34. > :14:44.winner, there has to be a loser. Thomas Leuluai, whose dad lost here
:14:45. > :14:48.in 1985, playing for Hull, and now he is experiencing that against that
:14:49. > :15:11.opposition, but for the other side. Liam Marshall bringing up the rear.
:15:12. > :15:13.What a day he's had. A roller-coaster of emotions. Did not
:15:14. > :15:19.know he was going to be playing this morning and was called in half an
:15:20. > :15:27.hour before the kick-off. Selfies, the modern phenomenon. Marc Sneyd is
:15:28. > :15:30.here again. So, commiserations as they go along the line and collect
:15:31. > :15:50.their loser's medals. Joe Burgess, going through there as
:15:51. > :16:01.well. What a fairy tale he almost had today. But almost does not mend
:16:02. > :16:04.broken heart, does it? Tony Clubb, what an amazing year. Sean
:16:05. > :16:08.O'Loughlin, slowly making his way up there, the Wigan skipper. And the
:16:09. > :16:16.Lance Todd Trophy winner, they've been giving this award away since
:16:17. > :16:21.1946. Not many have won it twice. And even fewer have won it in
:16:22. > :16:27.back-to-back finals, just the two, Paul Wellens in 2006 and 2007 and
:16:28. > :16:31.now Marc Sneyd in 2016 and 2017. If you want to hear the story of the
:16:32. > :16:34.incredible Lance Todd, by the way, have a listen to the BBC Rugby
:16:35. > :16:40.league podcast from last week because it is an incredible tale. It
:16:41. > :16:45.is a great individual honour. For someone who is a great individual
:16:46. > :17:00.player. He stamped his authority, his kicking game onto two Challenge
:17:01. > :17:07.Cup finals now. Ellery Hanley won that particular trophy back in 1989.
:17:08. > :17:12.Adam Pearson, the owner. Well, he will have to go down and then come
:17:13. > :17:18.all the way back up again. There's a little raw, a little one from the
:17:19. > :17:21.Hull fans. "Yeah, That's great but we want to see the big, decorative
:17:22. > :17:29.thing. That is what we really came for". What a day he had as well,
:17:30. > :17:40.didn't he? Mahe Fonua, two drives. Gareth Ellis -- two tries. Gareth
:17:41. > :17:45.Ellis, what a way to partially end your career, for Gareth Ellis and he
:17:46. > :17:49.still hopes there is a Grand Final to come at the end of it as well.
:17:50. > :17:53.But in terms of the Challenge Cup, this great domestic knockout Trophy,
:17:54. > :17:55.the oldest knockout trophy in the world, he will finish that
:17:56. > :18:00.particular chapter of his career on a high.
:18:01. > :18:13.Well, last year, they were making history. This year, they are making
:18:14. > :18:20.it a habit! Gareth Ellis lift the trophy, to spark a second year of

:21:03. > :21:05.last 20 minutes of the second-half but overall, they thoroughly
:21:06. > :21:08.deserved it. They stuck in there and when they got to the right part of
:21:09. > :21:11.the field, they came up with enough plays and that was about the

:21:31. > :21:33.building pressure, taking 18, 24 tackles and scoring a try, a
:21:34. > :21:37.wonderful these of brilliance to score the try but Wigan could have
:21:38. > :21:40.moved the ball about a bit more. It was about yardage and Shaun Wane was
:21:41. > :21:43.right, they were not smart with the ball but credit to their resilience
:21:44. > :21:50.and their desire to stay in the game. Hull have big men who run hard
:21:51. > :21:54.and tie you out and I thought the Wigan attack looked tired because of
:21:55. > :21:59.the hammer they were getting through Hull. Guys like Mahe Fonua carry the
:22:00. > :22:03.ball so strongly and then off the back of him, Talanoa, the front row
:22:04. > :22:09.was flooding through, Liam Watts had an exceptional game for Hull. That
:22:10. > :22:13.wears you out, and Wigan did an amazing job to hang in. Ultimately
:22:14. > :22:17.the difference between the games was the Lance Todd Trophy winner, he
:22:18. > :22:20.kicked brilliantly well, found an unbelievable 40-20 at the right arm
:22:21. > :22:25.when he was run down, kicked well for tries and kicked well for goals.
:22:26. > :22:28.More importantly, Wigan could not match that, they kicked the ball on
:22:29. > :22:33.the full with Leuluai and Williams and could not create pressure. Quite
:22:34. > :22:38.contrast. But then you need the platform to get like that. Marc
:22:39. > :22:42.Sneyd is a fantastic kicker of the ball but he's got a great platform
:22:43. > :22:45.to pick from, some huge men who play the ball quickly and get him down
:22:46. > :22:49.the field. Marc Sneyd's kicking game was exceptional and ultimately the
:22:50. > :22:55.difference between the team. What a performance from him. Outstanding,
:22:56. > :22:58.deserved it two years running and he's found a blueprint of how to
:22:59. > :23:02.play big games, he knows what he brings to the game, he's not got a
:23:03. > :23:05.running game and he's not a great defender but he's the best tactical
:23:06. > :23:08.kicker of the ball in the competition and the country and that
:23:09. > :23:14.is the reason Hull are celebrating like this. You will know how Gareth
:23:15. > :23:16.Ellis is feeling. You know it is your last Challenge Cup final
:23:17. > :23:23.because you are going to retire at the end of the season. Is there a
:23:24. > :23:27.sense of relief? Not for him. He's a champion. He's been outstanding on
:23:28. > :23:31.this side of the globe and die Amanda, constantly challenging
:23:32. > :23:35.himself throughout his career. -- and down under. It's a cliche but
:23:36. > :23:39.he's a champion on and off the field absolutely and I'm so pleased for
:23:40. > :23:43.Gareth. It's been a big week for him and I thought he was immense in the
:23:44. > :23:48.game, taking the ball forward. Hull's change in fortunes can be
:23:49. > :23:52.single-handedly, I believe, based on the recruitment of Gareth Ellis. His
:23:53. > :23:58.recruitment changed their culture completely. That is how important he
:23:59. > :24:01.is. Off the back of that, a series of great recruitment decisions by
:24:02. > :24:06.Adam Pearson and that love has turned them around. Let's take a
:24:07. > :24:09.look at the Hull try in the second half from vanilla. So many times
:24:10. > :24:17.when we do Challenge Cup games and you three come in here, we marvel at
:24:18. > :24:20.how wingers finish nowadays. Great show and go from Kelly, to get the
:24:21. > :24:23.ball back into hands and threw it backwards is a huge skill. And then
:24:24. > :24:28.Mahe Fonua has been doing that all year. To win a final between two
:24:29. > :24:31.sides, you need these of individual brilliance, we spoke about it before
:24:32. > :24:36.the game and he's done that all year and for the last two years for Hull.
:24:37. > :24:40.He will be sadly missed when he goes to Australia. Huge loss. We can get
:24:41. > :24:46.his reaction because he's waiting to talk to Damien.
:24:47. > :24:52.He was to celebrate with his team-mates but what an occasion, day
:24:53. > :24:55.and result. Really pleased with today's result. Last year we got the
:24:56. > :24:59.monkey off the back with never winning at Wembley and a Hull team
:25:00. > :25:04.has never won back-to-back year and I'm pleased to be a part of it. Tell
:25:05. > :25:07.us about the spectacular finish for the second. It was all Albert Kelly,
:25:08. > :25:10.to be honest, they drew the defenders in and I just had to put
:25:11. > :25:15.the ball down. Happy to get over the line. You could have had a
:25:16. > :25:18.hat-trick? I thought I did but we got robbed, it was taken of me but
:25:19. > :25:24.please do get over the white line twice. On a day like this, do you
:25:25. > :25:27.regret the decision to go back home even though you have do? To be
:25:28. > :25:30.honest, I do, these are the moments you want to be a part of but
:25:31. > :25:33.hopefully when I go back I will have success with Westside is but I'm
:25:34. > :25:42.enjoying it with Hull at the moment. Go and enjoy it. Thanks. -- and West
:25:43. > :25:50.Tigers. STUDIO: Here he comes in the huddle, we don't want to deprive him
:25:51. > :25:54.of that. Shaun Wane was brilliantly honest afterwards, did not make any
:25:55. > :25:57.excuses, did not blame any decisions, some decisions which I
:25:58. > :26:03.know we found quite puzzling, I know lots of the viewers have said the
:26:04. > :26:08.referees need to sort it out, could not spot the moon on a clear night,
:26:09. > :26:11.and the Tony Clubb try was clear, Rachel says it was an atrocious
:26:12. > :26:16.decision by the video referee on Twitter. You all thought it was a
:26:17. > :26:19.try. We did. I had to look at it closely but he clearly gets the ball
:26:20. > :26:24.straight and it should -- the ball stripped and it should be play on.
:26:25. > :26:26.It would have been brave from the video referee to overturn the
:26:27. > :26:31.referee's decision but it could have been pivotal for Wigan. I don't mind
:26:32. > :26:35.mistakes from referees in the heat of the game because there's a lot
:26:36. > :26:41.going on and that is frenetic but he's got time to look at it over and
:26:42. > :26:44.over again and it is a try. A big tackle from Tuimavave, nonetheless,
:26:45. > :26:48.stopped it from being a try through the tackle, stole the ball but a big
:26:49. > :26:48.tackle. For me, he had that long to look
:26:49. > :26:55.at that, I don't understand how you get it wrong, in a game like this,
:26:56. > :27:00.how the official gets it wrong. It was 18-10 when that was disallowed.
:27:01. > :27:02.Remember, Lee Radford was on the player microphone throughout the
:27:03. > :27:03.course of the game. This was Lee Radford's view of the disallowed
:27:04. > :27:20.try. It is a try. He stole that. He said it was a try, he ripped it
:27:21. > :27:25.out of his hands, the opposition coach! It was but let's not let it
:27:26. > :27:30.take away from an exceptional Hull performance. That is what Shaun Wane
:27:31. > :27:33.said, credit to him. Yes, a controversial moment but Hull were
:27:34. > :27:37.the better side, really clinical and in the big moments of the game, came
:27:38. > :27:41.up with the big plays which is why they have the trophy. Lee Radford
:27:42. > :27:44.said before the game, could they turn up to the party and they
:27:45. > :27:48.certainly did and they absolutely deserve it. They built on the
:27:49. > :27:51.performance in the final last year against Warrington, beat Castleford,
:27:52. > :27:54.the league leaders and the Leeds Rhinos, who are second in the leak
:27:55. > :27:59.and then beat Wigan, fantastic stuff. That's it, password, Leeds,
:28:00. > :28:03.Wigan beaten in the run to winning this. And they thoroughly deserved
:28:04. > :28:06.it today, Wigan had another opportunity and they did not execute
:28:07. > :28:14.for a forward pass so they can look at their execution and kicking game
:28:15. > :28:17.and they won't think so at the moment but they will come out
:28:18. > :28:19.stronger from this experience. But Hull definitely deserved it. You can
