:00:43. > :00:59.Warrington. Widnes. Two towns, six miles apart. One love, rugby league.

:01:00. > :01:07.Warrington pressing all the time. This is for the try! The rivalry is

:01:08. > :01:15.fierce. Passionate. Sometimes brutal. I should know. I played for

:01:16. > :01:25.both clubs. Against both clubs. I don't think I ever lost in this

:01:26. > :01:32.derby. Today, there will be no quarter given and no quarter asked.

:01:33. > :01:35.With so much at stake. Warrington at their near neighbours Widnes...

:01:36. > :01:47.Expect fireworks. Welcome to Warrington who are

:01:48. > :01:52.hosting their noisy neighbours, six miles away, it's Widnes and it's one

:01:53. > :01:54.of the few fixtures that we can take Jonathan Davies to Andy can walk

:01:55. > :02:01.around the ground and not get too much abuse from anybody. We have

:02:02. > :02:05.coming up the Derby between Warrington and Widnes, the game

:02:06. > :02:10.kicks off at 3pm. After the match, here, we will have the draw for the

:02:11. > :02:16.quarterfinal. We will then have the rugby league forum over on the BBC

:02:17. > :02:20.sport website, but if you want an little bit of athletics, stay tuned

:02:21. > :02:24.to BBC Two where they will have the highlights of the diamond lead from

:02:25. > :02:29.Shanghai. Jonathan Davies is with us alongside

:02:30. > :02:34.John, what is so special about this match? It's the proximity of the two

:02:35. > :02:38.towns, six miles, the home supporters work together, they live

:02:39. > :02:46.next door to each other. It's special and a lot of players have

:02:47. > :02:49.gone from one club to the other, and the rivalry is very intense. It's

:02:50. > :02:53.been a tough start of the season for both of these clubs, it seems

:02:54. > :02:57.strange to say it in May but is this the best chance of getting

:02:58. > :03:02.silverware? Certainly they will have highlighted the Challenge Cup as a

:03:03. > :03:06.great chance, for Widnes, a bad season, they are bottom of the Super

:03:07. > :03:11.League. Warrington are inconsistent in their start in Super League. So

:03:12. > :03:15.they will be looking to get back to Wembley. Tony Smith is a big fan of

:03:16. > :03:20.this competition. They will be highly motivated, both sides today.

:03:21. > :03:25.You see the old school in motion and grit and determination in those

:03:26. > :03:29.clips. We'd love to see that in the match today. In a moment we will run

:03:30. > :03:34.you through the results from Round 6 so far. But let's look back on

:03:35. > :03:37.yesterday's match when St Helens went to Castleford, and they had a

:03:38. > :03:43.rough time. Here are some of the key tries.

:03:44. > :03:56.They are grabbing at thin air, as Shelton goes in. He scores the

:03:57. > :04:02.game's first try. Webster, it almost seems too easy. Jake Webster.

:04:03. > :04:11.Walking through. Congratulations for the man who created it. Matty Smith

:04:12. > :04:14.again. Again it's the kick, looking to measure it, Eden goes art and

:04:15. > :04:25.Morgan in a midair. He catches that ball away from the Cassell said

:04:26. > :04:42.Byrne and St Helens have the score. Here they go again. Castleford are

:04:43. > :04:52.on fire. Wow, Castleford! And here comes Gayle, he will go himself. The

:04:53. > :04:58.ball comes free. Now it's about whether Eden goes

:04:59. > :05:09.into touch, he's in the air, grabbed the ball, that's a try.

:05:10. > :05:19.Here's Gale, and in goes the flying Eden again.

:05:20. > :05:26.It's a hat-trick, a second-half hat-trick for red Eden. -- Greg

:05:27. > :05:36.Eden. They are reaching out for him, they

:05:37. > :05:44.cannot put a hand on him. And Minikin, Minikin is underneath the

:05:45. > :05:48.posts. The procession continues. I think we're just a group of fellows

:05:49. > :05:51.who enjoy playing football together. We have fun at training and we bring

:05:52. > :05:54.it on to the pitch, and outstanding performance and that what we got in

:05:55. > :06:00.the locker. It doesn't get much worse than what we are at the

:06:01. > :06:05.moment. My time, 15 years in the club, this is the lowest point.

:06:06. > :06:22.So, let's catch up on all the results we had so far.

:06:23. > :06:30.There were two others fixtures as well as ours today, Leeds will kick

:06:31. > :06:36.off ten minutes late because Barrow were late arriving.

:06:37. > :06:41.John, we appreciate you coming on, because that was hard for you

:06:42. > :06:50.yesterday and you spoke incredibly honestly after the game. Is it it

:06:51. > :06:57.any easier today? Not really. I think throughout your career you

:06:58. > :07:00.have highlights and low lights, and days like yesterday were harder to

:07:01. > :07:05.take. That will last for a long time. We are a great club, it is a

:07:06. > :07:09.fantastic club I get the privilege to play for and captain. What we

:07:10. > :07:12.produced yesterday is not good enough. It's nowhere near the

:07:13. > :07:15.standard that the club sets for itself. And the history of the club

:07:16. > :07:19.demands we are better than what we are at the moment. Both in Super

:07:20. > :07:23.League and the Challenge Cup. We're out of the cup now at its extreme

:07:24. > :07:29.sheeting to me to have to watch the draw today -- it is excruciating for

:07:30. > :07:33.me to be here and have to watch the draw today.

:07:34. > :07:38.We should not take anything away from Castleford, they played some

:07:39. > :07:43.fantastic rugby. I love their approach to the game but the skills

:07:44. > :07:48.were at the highest level. But their defence fell off in the latter

:07:49. > :07:55.stages. There was a ten minute period pre-and post-half-time, the

:07:56. > :07:59.attacking was superb. They are on the crest of a wave, and that was a

:08:00. > :08:03.major difference yesterday. They were players playing on the top of

:08:04. > :08:08.their game. Some key players. And looking back at St Helens, I've

:08:09. > :08:14.played and won against them and lost against them, great clubs. But for

:08:15. > :08:17.me at the moment, it wasn't that there was going to play and there

:08:18. > :08:21.was not the aggression in the pack. So they've got to look at agreement,

:08:22. > :08:27.the recruitment hasn't been good over the last few years. You can't

:08:28. > :08:32.ask the youngsters to come through and perform at that level on a

:08:33. > :08:35.consistent basis. So recruitment for me is key for St Helens, because the

:08:36. > :08:39.supporters and the players understand the tradition and the

:08:40. > :08:49.success of that club. And it will come back. But recruitment is so

:08:50. > :08:53.crucial. You have recruited a new coach who is arriving this week,

:08:54. > :08:56.what is going to be the key thing that he needs to bring? You are not

:08:57. > :09:01.going to bring in a new team halfway to the season. He'll come and look

:09:02. > :09:08.and learn and listen. And I think he's going to from all accounts

:09:09. > :09:11.bring some attacking prowess. When you watch Castleford, the way they

:09:12. > :09:16.play is an entertaining style of rugby. You're right, you got to

:09:17. > :09:21.praise Castleford for their performance yesterday, it was

:09:22. > :09:26.exceptional. We're really excited to bring him on board and start to see

:09:27. > :09:30.what changes we can make to get back on track. I keep reading that St

:09:31. > :09:33.Helens have had a poor start of the season, it's not the start now, it's

:09:34. > :09:39.halfway through. We need to do get going quickly. We're all committed

:09:40. > :09:42.to Justin and everybody to get this club moving in the right direction.

:09:43. > :09:45.The one thing is, if you look at Super League this year, so many

:09:46. > :09:48.sides have beaten each other, you can't really predict a game.

:09:49. > :09:54.Sometimes they flog the side, they don't expect it. If you look at

:09:55. > :09:58.getting the basics right, you can get back on the horse, you can get

:09:59. > :10:02.your results and your confidence back. And all of a sudden things

:10:03. > :10:09.don't look as bad as they do. You've got some tough fixtures. He is going

:10:10. > :10:13.to have to hit the ground running. Yes, we played some big side, we've

:10:14. > :10:16.got Wigan and Huddersfield coming up. We're keen to get stuck into

:10:17. > :10:21.those games, it's hard but we've got some challenges ahead of us, but

:10:22. > :10:25.with just in the new coach, we will attack the new games and see what it

:10:26. > :10:28.brings. Let's go back to the game today because he might have gathered

:10:29. > :10:31.that Jonathan Davies played for both sides, so we let him lead to the

:10:32. > :10:37.camera and let him have a trip down memory lane.

:10:38. > :10:41.The north-west, and especially Warrington and Widnes, it's a

:10:42. > :10:49.special place because I spent seven years up here. Both towns are very

:10:50. > :10:57.working class towns with some great people. And it is all rugby league.

:10:58. > :11:05.He's going for the line, and another brilliant try! For Jonathan Davies

:11:06. > :11:11.and! I thoroughly enjoyed living up here, I had some great times, I'm

:11:12. > :11:15.lost now, I'm going the wrong way! I come down and look of this ground,

:11:16. > :11:20.and how it's changed and I go to Halliwell Jones, and the stadium has

:11:21. > :11:28.changed, how has the game changed? Its physical, it's fast. It is well

:11:29. > :11:34.beyond your means now! Warrington and then their neighbours Widnes.

:11:35. > :11:40.A little bit of feeling erupting now. They are too little turkeys

:11:41. > :11:45.together. The rivalry is intense. This is

:11:46. > :11:50.Widnes, and then next roundabout is Warrington fans. In those days, I

:11:51. > :11:55.had my name is sponsored on the car. When I got stuck in traffic, and

:11:56. > :11:59.with fans in the car next door to me, the kids were asking me, what

:12:00. > :12:05.was the sign language in the other car? So I had to little bit of

:12:06. > :12:11.explaining. The atmosphere, you can tell there's tension. Between the

:12:12. > :12:17.fans. That's bragging rights. And we hear about it, when we have had to

:12:18. > :12:21.suffer in defeat, we hear about it for awhile. Since I've been here,

:12:22. > :12:25.it's been fantastic. We've been on the end of some really good hiding

:12:26. > :12:28.is early on and we've managed to get a foothold into some competitions

:12:29. > :12:34.and won a couple of games on way. And what that means for the town and

:12:35. > :12:42.the players has a real knock-on effect. He's got support, inside

:12:43. > :12:48.him, no 1's going to catch the man who will score, Jonathan Davies! Jim

:12:49. > :12:52.Mills is the chairman of Widnes and he spoke to me officially once when

:12:53. > :12:55.he signed me, when he signed me, and then the second time he spoke to be

:12:56. > :13:06.officially coming he said, we've got to sell you.

:13:07. > :13:12.What a score! Of course, you've taken their best

:13:13. > :13:17.player. Well, he knocked on our door, I liked it that way. It's been

:13:18. > :13:22.an indifferent start for Kevin, he's a terrific fellow and he's got great

:13:23. > :13:27.desire and he came here for the right intentions. And he's going to

:13:28. > :13:31.be very good for us. When we lost Kevin this year, everyone was

:13:32. > :13:35.signed, and we did on our business so it was hard to find a half-backs.

:13:36. > :13:40.And then we gave the half-backs to John Miller and invested in those

:13:41. > :13:44.lads who'd been in the club and both of them got injured in the first

:13:45. > :13:47.month. You've been at the top level, do you find it frustrating to

:13:48. > :13:57.intimate your thoughts on to players? You -- it can be, it's no

:13:58. > :14:01.good giving my CV to people and train to coach, it's no good how

:14:02. > :14:07.good I was or how good you were, no good driving into them the real

:14:08. > :14:12.tough environment that I came up in, Wigan was a special environment, and

:14:13. > :14:16.trying to put that in place. The Challenge Cup is in trench in

:14:17. > :14:21.Widnes. It would mean a lot to the club and the town to do well in this

:14:22. > :14:26.competition. I've managed to be with my team at Wembley at four times,

:14:27. > :14:33.three as winners, and the last few where we were awfully close and

:14:34. > :14:37.beta. That's a great experience, not the losing part but being part of

:14:38. > :14:40.something so special, to have a great drive and be back there again.

:14:41. > :14:46.Once you have a taste, you get greedy.

:14:47. > :14:50.Did you really get lost! I did. Times have changed. They've added a

:14:51. > :14:57.couple of more roundabouts. It was difficult. We can't let you out on

:14:58. > :15:01.your own, can we? It was great coming back, seeing places that I

:15:02. > :15:05.lived. Two of my daughters were born in Warrington Hospital, so it's nice

:15:06. > :15:08.coming back, I love the Northwest. Times have changed when you look at

:15:09. > :15:13.some of that footage, my word they laid into each other. They did.

:15:14. > :15:17.There's a lot to be said for the old school style. I grew up watching the

:15:18. > :15:23.likes of Jonathan and Denis Betts play. That era is quite nostalgic

:15:24. > :15:26.for me. In Denis Betts, Widnes have got somebody who's got a huge

:15:27. > :15:32.pedigree in the Challenge Cup as a player. He doesn't speak about how

:15:33. > :15:36.decorated he is, but he's got a lot of experience of going to Wembley

:15:37. > :15:39.for finals. Tony Smith has also got great experience. So these guys have

:15:40. > :15:43.got people at the helm who are embedded in success and will be

:15:44. > :15:47.driving their teams forward. Let's have a look at how they sit in

:15:48. > :15:52.the Super League table, and it's been a real tough start the season

:15:53. > :15:56.for Widnes who have been by injury. They sit bottom of the table, but

:15:57. > :16:01.Warrington were bottom of the table for quite some time at the beginning

:16:02. > :16:06.of the season. But they are a team on the up at the moment. The team

:16:07. > :16:09.news for Warrington is interesting, they've got their internationals

:16:10. > :16:15.back. But we were given the team sheet which had Harvey Livett who

:16:16. > :16:23.did so well in the middle for him, but he has had to pull out with a

:16:24. > :16:31.hamstring strain, it's been a light reshuffle. Ben Westwood will start

:16:32. > :16:35.in the second row. Tony Smith has a huge amount of assets in his team

:16:36. > :16:39.who are very worth the tile, so actually it's not a big issue for

:16:40. > :16:44.Warrington. There is quality throughout the team sheet. Brown

:16:45. > :16:49.coming back from international duty, and Chris Hill, Gidley, Australian

:16:50. > :16:55.experience, just quality throughout. We look at the Widnes side, there is

:16:56. > :17:01.a lot of inexperienced but quality in the Warrington side. It is a

:17:02. > :17:10.young team in places, this Widnes side. What a day for Lloyd Roby to

:17:11. > :17:20.make his debut. You grow up wanting to play the Challenge Cup and it

:17:21. > :17:24.against your local rivals. But they have got to take it to them because

:17:25. > :17:31.Warrington, they have two manage expectation. Widnes get St Helens,

:17:32. > :17:36.they're not doing very well with injury, everyone expects Warrington

:17:37. > :17:39.to win. So it is expectation of management. But with Widnes, it's

:17:40. > :17:43.the other way round, they will say we are battered, we are injured,

:17:44. > :17:46.just get out there and play. What is going to be the key for Widnes

:17:47. > :18:00.today? Widnes have not started the season

:18:01. > :18:06.that they would like to. They got some big boys, Manasseh Monica

:18:07. > :18:14.they might be to get some space on the field. The man who will be

:18:15. > :18:18.tasked with leading them around the park is Joe Mellor. He's a great

:18:19. > :18:22.player, one of my favourite players. When he gets a ball in hand and take

:18:23. > :18:26.the line on, he can be effective. Can I have a quick word with you?

:18:27. > :18:31.How the boys preparing today? We've trained well, we are just go to try

:18:32. > :18:36.and complete and get in the game. What about the supporters, you're

:18:37. > :18:41.only six miles away from the town, the supporters have turned out in

:18:42. > :18:43.great numbers, is that a good way to turn the season around? Definitely,

:18:44. > :18:46.we know it's not been a great start but these always turn up great for

:18:47. > :18:54.us and we're looking forward to it today.

:18:55. > :18:58.How key is Joe Mellor to them? Huge, he and Rhys Hanbury have got a

:18:59. > :19:00.great, nation, Joe Mellor creates some space and you usually find

:19:01. > :19:08.Hanbury popping up and taking advantage. The things will be

:19:09. > :19:11.through Mellor, Hanbury and Heremaia, I think they'll be

:19:12. > :19:15.imported through the fields. The challenge is the inexperienced.

:19:16. > :19:23.Today is a great day for them but that could be exposed. They put

:19:24. > :19:26.together a very good first half against Hull, how do they do a full

:19:27. > :19:31.80 minutes? They go back to basics. If they complete the set up, they

:19:32. > :19:36.get a good kicking game and defended very well, if you just watch,

:19:37. > :19:43.creating and scoring tries, they're capable. Defensively, therefore.

:19:44. > :19:46.It's not -- they are poor. It's not the structure or defence, it's the

:19:47. > :19:52.one on one tackles. The support is so good, they just streamed through.

:19:53. > :19:59.Hull scored a try just before half-time against Widnes and it

:20:00. > :20:02.killed them. It gave Hull some hope, they came out in the second half and

:20:03. > :20:06.went through them, through the middle of the field. Its attitude,

:20:07. > :20:10.commitment, communication, and they've got to get that whites

:20:11. > :20:15.today. If there's a team that can expose you the middle of field, it's

:20:16. > :20:21.Warrington. They play flat and fast. This could be Matt Russell, they'll

:20:22. > :20:26.expose weakness and they'll have to be at their best. At any level, you

:20:27. > :20:31.just cannot fall off one-on-one tackles. As we mentioned, sport

:20:32. > :20:36.sometimes comes back to mental toughness. Today witness will have

:20:37. > :20:40.two front up and get stuck into that and make sure that defence is their

:20:41. > :20:45.priority. What is going to be the key for Warrington?

:20:46. > :20:50.Kind of like Widnes, Warrington haven't had the start of they wanted

:20:51. > :20:56.but over the last six weeks, they've turned the season around. If you

:20:57. > :21:03.look across the vast width of talent they've got, they should be batting

:21:04. > :21:07.way above they are. They have world-class players, like number

:21:08. > :21:11.six, Kevin Brown. We'll see if we can get a word with him. He was an

:21:12. > :21:16.outstanding figure for the England team last weekend. Kevin, a quick

:21:17. > :21:21.word? Of the back of the international last week, how's your

:21:22. > :21:28.confidence right now? Yeah, good, it's been confident all year. We got

:21:29. > :21:32.a really good lot out of the last week. You guys are looking very

:21:33. > :21:35.confident at this point on, the last six weeks, getting wins under the

:21:36. > :21:40.belt? Yes, we hit some good form, when not still where we want to be

:21:41. > :21:47.but the boys did great job last week. Try to fit back in and add a

:21:48. > :21:50.bit today as well. As you can see, he's got a real determination in his

:21:51. > :21:56.eyes. These players love playing at home so what was on special magic

:21:57. > :21:59.from Warrington today. Neither Stefan Ratchford zero Kevin

:22:00. > :22:05.Brown were originally in the squad to travel down under but I am

:22:06. > :22:08.getting the feeling they have come back with a lot of confidence. Yes,

:22:09. > :22:12.they've gone out and done a great job last minute. They were both very

:22:13. > :22:16.tidy in their performances for England. Kevin Brown was poached

:22:17. > :22:22.from Widnes, brought all the creativity, guile and skill that

:22:23. > :22:29.Widnes had. And he's been brought in and his start to this club was

:22:30. > :22:32.exceptional. Since then, Warrington's fortunes and his own

:22:33. > :22:41.personally have been up and down. But Kevin Brown's, quality, he

:22:42. > :22:45.creates a space, you alluded to that. Yes, just watch him, he's a

:22:46. > :22:50.bit of a slow player, he looks lethargic, plenty of time on the

:22:51. > :22:53.ball. But when you move to a different club, there's not much on

:22:54. > :23:03.here, really, last minute of the game, he kicks. It's about settling

:23:04. > :23:10.here and I is adapting to him. I think he's got an unusual tempo to

:23:11. > :23:17.how he plays the game and that takes some time to get used to. And

:23:18. > :23:19.another example would be happy Mike Chase, he plays quite erratically,

:23:20. > :23:26.Kevin Brown is very slow and deliberate. I find it hard to play

:23:27. > :23:31.against players like Kevin Brown because he draws you to him, he is

:23:32. > :23:36.of its smaller with his style and he draws people out of the defensive

:23:37. > :23:40.line and creates space. Who better to deal with Kevin Brown van Widnes,

:23:41. > :23:49.they know anything about him. He reminds me of Tony Myler, he was six

:23:50. > :23:55.foot tool, I had to adjust runs off him because he would create space. A

:23:56. > :24:00.slightly old-fashioned stand-off. You can't help but think, Kevin

:24:01. > :24:03.Brown going away and playing well for England, coming back, he could

:24:04. > :24:07.be the catalyst for Warrington doing good things this year. You look at

:24:08. > :24:11.their side, they are too good to be where they are in the Super League

:24:12. > :24:15.table. Certainly good enough for this group to get to Wembley this

:24:16. > :24:23.year. Let's hear from the two catches coaches.

:24:24. > :24:28.With Warrington in form, a local derby must get the juices flowing.

:24:29. > :24:32.Yes, we are keen to build a wobbly doing at the moment. Our last match

:24:33. > :24:36.was the best that macro to build on what we're doing at the road. Our

:24:37. > :24:41.last performance of the best performance since the Brisbane game.

:24:42. > :24:44.A number of players are returning to play with us. So we've got a bit

:24:45. > :24:47.more to choose from at the moment. It's the crippling injury list

:24:48. > :24:54.you've got, are you fearful about today? No, not fearful, it's an

:24:55. > :24:57.opportunity, we've got problems and that creates opportunities for our

:24:58. > :25:04.youngsters. We got a couple of 17 and 18-year-olds. A little bit of

:25:05. > :25:09.that great opportunity. We're not fearful, which is going to take our

:25:10. > :25:13.chances and all the pressure is off this group this group, we have just

:25:14. > :25:18.got to go out and enjoy it. Kevin Brown is back from international

:25:19. > :25:21.duty, how is that going to work with him and Harvey Livett? Harvey will

:25:22. > :25:26.slip into the centres, we're missing Rhys Evans from last week. So

:25:27. > :25:34.Harvey's natural position is centre but he did a great job in the halfs

:25:35. > :25:41.last week. So he'll move into the centres. We're looking forward to

:25:42. > :25:44.that. I thought Kevin was really solid for England last week and

:25:45. > :25:51.we're hoping that he comes up with some big plays today. It's a big

:25:52. > :25:54.game, local derby, the crowd will be nice and loud, if we allow them to

:25:55. > :26:00.dominate and the physical, we will be on the back foot so we got to be

:26:01. > :26:03.on the front foot. We have got a scrum half again, he will be able to

:26:04. > :26:07.dictate the play for us. Many people will think that Widnes are therefore

:26:08. > :26:12.that taking, no complicity in your dressing room? Unless you get

:26:13. > :26:17.everything right on the day, you can get beaten. Enthusiasts usually wins

:26:18. > :26:23.a game of rugby league. We need to be enthusiastic. They will be

:26:24. > :26:26.thinking the same thing. Our boys have trained well this week and

:26:27. > :26:31.prepared well so hopefully we can get off to a good start.

:26:32. > :26:34.I should just say that we did those interviews before Harvey pulled out

:26:35. > :26:38.with that hamstring injury, Jack Hughes comes in in the centres to

:26:39. > :26:45.replace him. He spent time with most coaches this week, how did you find

:26:46. > :26:52.them? With Widnes, times are tough. On the back of the defeat against

:26:53. > :26:57.Barrow, I think Denis Betts's problem is the depth of their squad.

:26:58. > :27:02.A lot of injuries again. So they are very much a struggling. And then on

:27:03. > :27:06.the back of the result against another local rivals St Helens last

:27:07. > :27:10.week, they are buoyant. But both these clubs have got great tradition

:27:11. > :27:15.in the cup. And this game will be released from the Super League, and

:27:16. > :27:19.whoever wins, it will be a nice thread throughout the season, as

:27:20. > :27:25.long as they can hang on in there until August. It's an important game

:27:26. > :27:30.for both clubs. With Denis a couple of weeks ago at Salford, and you

:27:31. > :27:34.guys had been under pressure this season, but there was not a feeling

:27:35. > :27:37.that Denis was under pressure, everyone understands what is going

:27:38. > :27:41.on and this is a club which has been building through the years. Without

:27:42. > :27:44.doubt, they've done a great job, Widnes, to be in the position

:27:45. > :27:50.they're in now. The club was in some serious trouble, and Widnes have

:27:51. > :27:57.done some great things with limited resources, Denis has. I feel like

:27:58. > :28:01.they got of searching of the soul to do. But putting some young players

:28:02. > :28:06.in now, you're going to get some diamonds. What better stage, a

:28:07. > :28:12.Challenge Cup game in the sun like this, against local rivals, for

:28:13. > :28:17.these young guys to step up. I'm excited for them young guys to have

:28:18. > :28:21.a crack against Warrington, nothing to lose. Warrington have got the

:28:22. > :28:25.pressure of expectation on them, but Widnes have got a great of the

:28:26. > :28:31.surety to attack. We've talked a lot about the halves and the creative

:28:32. > :28:38.play, but they've both got great wings, how much key has it been that

:28:39. > :28:42.Patrick is back from injury? They are both exceptional finishers and

:28:43. > :28:52.big guys who are hard to handle. Look at the tackle busts. 18 from

:28:53. > :29:03.Tom Linder, so these guys are making a lot of metres and breaking speed.

:29:04. > :29:07.-- Tom Lineham. Patrick Ah Van has been on fire with his tight that

:29:08. > :29:12.work and strength in corners recently. A real asset for Widnes.

:29:13. > :29:17.Patrick Garvan has not got headlines but he is a strong performer and he

:29:18. > :29:25.knows how to finish. He just looks for he doesn't stay on. And then he

:29:26. > :29:33.just comes off the wing. He is great out there. That's a great finish. A

:29:34. > :29:37.great finish. In tight spaces, when you got a man whose that big, that

:29:38. > :29:43.strong and quick, he's difficult to stop. He's a great ever had capture.

:29:44. > :29:48.Both him and Lineham have a challenge for the opposition because

:29:49. > :29:55.they can great opportunity. A quick addiction? I can't see past

:29:56. > :29:59.Warrington. Same, Warrington, I can't sit on the fence. The players

:30:00. > :30:04.are in the tunnel, so let's hand you to our commentary team.

:30:05. > :30:11.A little bit of pre-match nerves there, Sunday afternoons in Cheshire

:30:12. > :30:16.our usual gentle affairs, not this Sunday. It will be a blood and

:30:17. > :30:23.thunder derby on the cards. We hope six miles of separation but a common

:30:24. > :30:29.bond of mutual loathing between these two sides. Certainly the

:30:30. > :30:32.supporters in the primrose and blue of Warrington in evidence, and the

:30:33. > :30:36.flavour of the pre-match is that they start here today very much as

:30:37. > :30:42.favourites. Especially given the adversity in terms of injuries that

:30:43. > :30:47.Widnes have been having. Several youngsters in their 17 today,

:30:48. > :30:52.including a young debutant, more of that in a moment. The black and

:30:53. > :30:56.white of Widnes, the cup kings of the 70s and 80s, looking to restore

:30:57. > :31:07.some of that tradition. They've got a big task on their

:31:08. > :31:13.hands, that sliding black and white. Their supporters are here in good

:31:14. > :31:19.heart. And with plenty of hope. We heard about the late changes. Benny

:31:20. > :31:26.westward coming off the bench to start in the second row. Jack Hughes

:31:27. > :31:29.in the centre. George King a late replacement on the bench for

:31:30. > :31:35.Warrington. Let's have a look at that line-up right now. Warrington

:31:36. > :31:36.had three players back from being on duty for England in Australia last

:31:37. > :32:04.week. A kids collection for Widnes.

:32:05. > :32:13.18-year-old Lloyd Roby making his debut. 18-year-old Johnstone and

:32:14. > :32:22.17-year-old Walker. Those numbers give you the clues. 31, 37, 38, 35.

:32:23. > :32:37.They are not in line normally. James child is the referee today.

:32:38. > :32:46.Kevin Brown up against his former club. Not the most favourite in

:32:47. > :32:52.Widnes these days, Kevin Brown. Hanbury gets the kick under way.

:32:53. > :32:57.Ratchford underneath. Here comes Sims with the first drive on this

:32:58. > :33:01.sunny afternoon in Warrington. Warrington against Widnes, a place

:33:02. > :33:06.in the quarterfinals of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup at stake.

:33:07. > :33:15.Let's hear the early thoughts of Brian Noble. Widnes have to be

:33:16. > :33:20.exceptional in these early stages. Warrington have been renowned. Team

:33:21. > :33:26.games exceptionally fast. Widnes will have to be very careful in

:33:27. > :33:30.these early stages. Yes, I think they've got a decent enough pact to

:33:31. > :33:49.compete with Warrington and if they can handle their ruck speed, kick

:33:50. > :33:53.pressure we saw. Tony Smith the coach. He's had Wembley glory of

:33:54. > :34:03.course with Warrington in recent years. Denis Betts knows all about

:34:04. > :34:11.Wembley glory as well. Seven Challenge Cup medals for him, the

:34:12. > :34:16.Widnes coach. It is taken up by Heremaia... They've missed him this

:34:17. > :34:21.season for big chunks, he's been injured. He grabs himself a penalty.

:34:22. > :34:26.I'm just thinking, everyone has had the element of sympathy for Widnes.

:34:27. > :34:30.You build up the fact there is every four kids in there. They are a big

:34:31. > :34:36.chance today. If you can manufacture a response to that, they've

:34:37. > :34:43.certainly got a big enough pact. They've got to start exceptionally

:34:44. > :34:48.well. Runciman taking it in. Taking up position. Mellor going left and

:34:49. > :34:51.straightened up by Jack Buchanan the Australian who is underneath the

:34:52. > :35:00.sticks and 80 yards away. This is promising from Widnes at the moment.

:35:01. > :35:06.Hanbury wrapped up well by the Warrington defence, out on the

:35:07. > :35:14.fringes. A step and they drive back by Olbison, the former Bradford man.

:35:15. > :35:19.Widnes still knocking on the door. Getting close. It came off the chest

:35:20. > :35:25.of Cahill. And it came forward off that chest so Warrington get the

:35:26. > :35:32.ball back here. A terrific tackle from Jack Hughes. Just watched the

:35:33. > :35:39.play unfolds, his left shoulder really physical on Cahill. Good

:35:40. > :35:42.early signs for Warrington. A tough catch, that one. Catching those

:35:43. > :35:50.balls at the line for the Widnes players, against someone in your

:35:51. > :35:57.face, it's a tough catch. Brent Hodgson alongside Denis Betts. He's

:35:58. > :36:05.got some Wembley memories as well as a Huddersfield player. Gidley at

:36:06. > :36:12.dummy half. He was named on the bench but because of that late

:36:13. > :36:17.injury to Harvey Livett he has started. Ratchford goes left with a

:36:18. > :36:22.wonderful pass out to Lineham his way is blocked by an enthusiastic

:36:23. > :36:25.Widnes chased back. Warrington deep inside Widnes territory for the

:36:26. > :36:37.first time in the game so far. Three and a half minutes played. Here is

:36:38. > :36:42.Gidley... Ratchford puts it high in the air. Hanbury coming across,

:36:43. > :36:50.Lineham was there and it came off his fingertips. Warrington come away

:36:51. > :36:55.with nothing. We haven't spoken much about Rhys Hanbury. His attacking

:36:56. > :37:03.prowess is vital for Widnes today. His speed and footwork might be the

:37:04. > :37:07.difference. What we saw there was an attempt to catch the ball

:37:08. > :37:17.defensively. I think Ratchford and Brown put the ball as high as they

:37:18. > :37:22.possibly could. He's bigger than most of the big fellows, Ah Van.

:37:23. > :37:27.Damien Johnson has news for us on the touchline. Harvey Livett felt a

:37:28. > :37:31.bit of a twinge in his hamstring, ran down the tunnel complaining

:37:32. > :37:37.about it and disappeared into the physio room. Thought it might be

:37:38. > :37:44.cramped but on further inspection he was out of the game. He's been

:37:45. > :37:48.playing well, Harvey Livett. Ratchford picks up, fresh from that

:37:49. > :37:53.international adventure he has last week. He was a late call-up to

:37:54. > :38:01.England and he made a claim the way he played. He is a terrific player,

:38:02. > :38:06.Stefan Ratchford. Widnes are doing the right things, they are

:38:07. > :38:10.completing early in this game. St Helens were at 40% at half-time,

:38:11. > :38:17.Widnes can't afford to do that in this game. Ratchford throws off a

:38:18. > :38:23.couple of defenders. Cahill just caught his ankles and slowed him

:38:24. > :38:28.down. I think there's a bit too much going on from Olbison. The penalty

:38:29. > :38:30.for Warrington. Footwork again from Stefan Ratchford. So good on his

:38:31. > :38:39.feet, gets himself between defenders. One defender left in his

:38:40. > :38:46.way. Gets his team a penalty. The first tackle settles Warrington into

:38:47. > :38:52.decent position here. Five more to come. Gidley, Brown, Ratchford, seen

:38:53. > :38:56.plenty of him so far. He was offering an off-load, there was

:38:57. > :39:04.nobody waiting. Gidley again. It's a poor pass. Sims has to take it in

:39:05. > :39:12.and rolls it back to Gidley. Cahill wrapped himself around him. Short

:39:13. > :39:19.pass, there's the Frenchman. Jullien, he's an interesting

:39:20. > :39:24.character, a real impact player. Last tackle. Warrington Wolves it is

:39:25. > :39:29.to create here. Kevin Brown, Ratchford with the past, batted on

:39:30. > :39:38.quickly by Hughes I think that was on the near side. It left his winger

:39:39. > :39:42.with nothing really on, Russell. It was a small opportunity. Jack Hughes

:39:43. > :39:50.trying to be a bit too fancy. Probably should have caught that.

:39:51. > :39:55.Small opportunity for Warrington. That's why you hope Harvey Livett

:39:56. > :40:02.was, but he's off the field. Probably Jack Hughes didn't quite

:40:03. > :40:05.possess. It was 80 11 situation. Widnes surviving that first real

:40:06. > :40:16.spell of pressure. They are up against it today, a lot of

:40:17. > :40:22.youngsters on the field again. Lloyd Raby is 18 years old and making his

:40:23. > :40:33.debut in a Challenge Cup tie at Warrington -- Lloyd Roby. Here is

:40:34. > :40:40.Johnstone. Out of dummy half by Mellor. They are rolling forward

:40:41. > :40:47.with decent intent, here. Keeping themselves a platform. Dudson

:40:48. > :40:53.flicking it away, Buchanan can't keep old and too many knocks on in

:40:54. > :41:00.the end for the referee's liking. Good play from Widnes initially but

:41:01. > :41:05.just that one past too far from Dudson, couldn't quite take it in.

:41:06. > :41:09.It's so important for Widnes Vikings to completing these early strangers.

:41:10. > :41:19.Don't give cheap possession away to Warrington, they will feed off that.

:41:20. > :41:27.Eight times Challenge Cup winners, Warrington. They had a really good

:41:28. > :41:34.spell where they dominated the competition over four years. Beta

:41:35. > :41:38.last year in the final against Hull. Here is Lineham. Bell fancy their

:41:39. > :41:43.chances of a good cup run. Warrington especially, early form

:41:44. > :41:47.poor but they are putting that behind them. They are hitting decent

:41:48. > :42:06.form at the moment. Here is Chris Hill.

:42:07. > :42:14.25 away. Growing in menace, Warrington at the moment. Widnes

:42:15. > :42:18.offside, not square I think was the decision so a penalty for

:42:19. > :42:30.Warrington. They hit the tackle count as well. They are on the try

:42:31. > :42:35.line, basically. Ashton Sims. Warrington looking to push their way

:42:36. > :42:41.over here. Tenth minute of the game. Ratchford puts it over the top...

:42:42. > :42:45.When Atkins has it back again it would have been advantage. I know he

:42:46. > :43:01.said a forward pass... It's important that Widnes take this

:43:02. > :43:04.opportunity they've been given to complete the set, put Warrington and

:43:05. > :43:13.a bit of pressure. They made a couple of errors, gave a penalty

:43:14. > :43:19.away. As we see, Ratchford frustrated that pass forward a bit.

:43:20. > :43:25.Vitally important set for Widnes. What are you smiling at? I thought

:43:26. > :43:35.the decision was a bit strange. The Widnes defender touched that. The

:43:36. > :43:37.best team in this competition are Warrington at picking and going.

:43:38. > :43:43.When they win the ground in and around the ruck they put you on the

:43:44. > :43:46.back foot with either a dummy half run or another carry in and around

:43:47. > :43:50.there. I think Widnes are trying to get them a bearing game but you

:43:51. > :43:56.can't give them the ball for nothing like that. Here comes Cooper,

:43:57. > :44:04.straightening up. Think forget that quarterfinal draw after this match

:44:05. > :44:10.on this channel. There is a rugby league forum as well. Don't forget

:44:11. > :44:15.the Super League show a week on Tuesday. It's Magic Weekend next

:44:16. > :44:18.week, every game in Newcastle in the Super League. You can catch it on

:44:19. > :44:30.the Super League show a week on Tuesday. Gidley and dummy half. 15

:44:31. > :44:35.out. Brown again. The two England players combining, Brown and tell.

:44:36. > :44:48.Gidley the Australian. Options to his left... No smile this time.

:44:49. > :44:54.Definitely good decision from the officials. Widnes are doing a good

:44:55. > :44:59.job in the ruck. They know they can't often play at speed as we just

:45:00. > :45:03.saw Livett stray that pass forward a bit. They know they can't allow them

:45:04. > :45:07.to play quick and get them nice and tight in the tackle and Warrington

:45:08. > :45:21.want to speed this game up as it progresses. Nervy at the moment.

:45:22. > :45:27.Neither side taking an advantage. 65% territory for Warrington, 58%

:45:28. > :45:37.possession. That tells you Warrington at -- are dominating.

:45:38. > :45:41.They've now given a penalty away. Patrick Ah Van a master at winning

:45:42. > :45:48.penalties. He manufactured the penalty, got himself through. I

:45:49. > :45:58.think he found an advantage there, Ah Van, in convincing the referee.

:45:59. > :46:02.They stopped him from doing that so the penalty was given. Here come

:46:03. > :46:12.Widnes, 40 metres out, a set of six to work with here. Taken in in the

:46:13. > :46:17.first instance by Liam Walsh. That clutch of teenagers in this Widnes

:46:18. > :46:22.side. Buchanan driving it forward. Heremaia is a long way from his

:46:23. > :46:29.teenage years, he's 34 years old. A ball is bowled back by Dudson.

:46:30. > :46:33.Picked up smartly by Johnstone who searches for something on the

:46:34. > :46:40.right-hand side. A little bit of give. Mellor... Offered inside for

:46:41. > :46:44.Hanbury who's got the zip but he's also got Kevin Brown in close

:46:45. > :46:53.proximity to make the tackle... They go short, he's over, he's reached

:46:54. > :47:05.over and Widnes have the first try of the game. That's exactly what

:47:06. > :47:08.they needed. Absolutely. Warrington with the territory in this game and

:47:09. > :47:16.they've waited and bided their time to penalty from Ah Van. Just gives

:47:17. > :47:20.his team the opportunity, they get the right position. They haven't had

:47:21. > :47:25.too much of it in this game. When they did they took advantage of it.

:47:26. > :47:30.Hanbury accelerated through the gap. The Warrington defence managed to

:47:31. > :47:34.get him down. Heremaia with a lovely fat pass. Greg Burke right

:47:35. > :47:39.underneath the posts. Brilliant try from the Widnes Vikings. It was a

:47:40. > :47:44.good try and full credit to Rhys Hanbury. He created that try. His

:47:45. > :47:52.surge on the inside beats Ratchford. The speed of the play of the ball

:47:53. > :48:05.allows Burke to pick his spot. He's so quick, Hanbury. 15 minutes

:48:06. > :48:15.played. That try was scored. Widnes had the lead. Patrick van, two or

:48:16. > :48:21.three in the Widnes side who are capable kickers. That's not the

:48:22. > :48:31.biggest test he might face today but six points to nil. Widnes lead. It

:48:32. > :48:38.was vitally important for Widnes Vikings to get a good start in this

:48:39. > :48:43.game. They have been under pressure. To be 6-0 after 15 minutes I'm sure

:48:44. > :48:51.Denis Betts will be very, very happy. First try of the season for

:48:52. > :48:55.Greg Burke. If you go through a season without scoring a try you

:48:56. > :49:10.have to do a nudie run at training, danger you?! -- don't you. LAUGHTER

:49:11. > :49:16.Here comes Cahill, Widnes buoyed by the early confidence. Can they do it

:49:17. > :49:23.on the back of this? What is Warrington's response going to be

:49:24. > :49:29.like? Rolling towards the halfway line but still a distance short of

:49:30. > :49:35.it. Need to make some metres in what remains of this set. A couple of

:49:36. > :49:41.tackles still to go. Heremaia dodging and weaving but no way

:49:42. > :49:47.forward. Johnstone... Johnstone was a dummy half. Rhys Hanbury going to

:49:48. > :49:51.go there. Back it comes to Mellor who puts the kick in, simply licking

:49:52. > :49:54.her touch and he has found it. Warrington will stop midway inside

:49:55. > :50:07.their own half. Smart play from Mellor. As we've explained, it gives

:50:08. > :50:12.both packs the chance to go and talk about their defence. It's a tactic

:50:13. > :50:15.as well. We know that Warrington are exceptionally good at bringing the

:50:16. > :50:27.ball back. If you roll the ball dead it stops that threat. Warrington.

:50:28. > :50:37.Tony Smith looking on. I think his side can provide a response quickly

:50:38. > :50:47.here. Benjamin Jullien... Hughes pushing forward. Gidley picks it up

:50:48. > :50:51.again and Hill takes it on again. Warrington getting territory once

:50:52. > :50:57.more inside their opponents' half. Gidley collects... It's Cooper the

:50:58. > :51:02.wider man he goes to. He's given it away and Cahill picks it up and with

:51:03. > :51:10.this habit back and Hanbury will try to start the movement forward again

:51:11. > :51:18.here. Still deep inside their own territory.

:51:19. > :51:38.I think he slipped! He's OK. Here is Cahill.

:51:39. > :51:45.Heremaia dodges and dances away from a couple of defenders. Johnstone

:51:46. > :51:50.tries to put his frame through those three defenders, they hang on. Here

:51:51. > :51:57.comes tackle six, defining moment in this set. Great high kick from

:51:58. > :52:01.Mellor. Widnes hands get it and knock it backwards, it's still the

:52:02. > :52:05.sixth tackle. It's out with Roby on the right-hand side but he can't get

:52:06. > :52:09.away from those three Warrington defenders and it is at handover.

:52:10. > :52:17.Terrific kick from Joe Mellor, right into the area where you don't want

:52:18. > :52:19.it. Tom Lineham travelled to it. Widnes are growing in confidence and

:52:20. > :52:33.they are starting to enjoy themselves. There's a little insight

:52:34. > :52:38.into the game. That's good, good from Patton. Jullien is looking for

:52:39. > :52:41.the outside. They are pre-drugs out of play-by-play penalty. The referee

:52:42. > :52:45.decides the tackle was completed and then it was a second effort by

:52:46. > :52:56.Hanbury that put him out of place. We saw a perfect example, Russell

:52:57. > :53:01.finds the ball... The past to Jullien, that was a try saving

:53:02. > :53:14.tackle from Hanbury but they adjudicate it's a penalty.

:53:15. > :53:24.Burke was there to complete the job. Here is Declan Patton trying to get

:53:25. > :53:35.through. But they hang on. Gidley with a dummy! Going but not quite

:53:36. > :53:42.going the distance. Pushed back. Atkins! Ryan Atkins finds the way

:53:43. > :53:48.over, it's a hands on hips moment for Widnes. They know they've let

:53:49. > :53:54.themselves down. Atkins with Warrington's response. Great

:53:55. > :54:01.footwork from Atkins. Gidley picks him out and it is literally just off

:54:02. > :54:04.his left foot. A couple of times they could have gone there,

:54:05. > :54:13.Warrington, and when they did the glass break because of the pressure.

:54:14. > :54:17.Jullien gets on the outside of the past and Hanbury can't do that.

:54:18. > :54:26.Gives Warrington the field position. Gidley nearly gets himself over.

:54:27. > :54:29.Runs into Danny half. The Widnes defender can't regain his feet and

:54:30. > :54:36.make the defensive player on the line. They'll be disappointed their

:54:37. > :54:41.Widnes because they defended so well on their own try line for large

:54:42. > :54:46.periods of this first 20 minutes. That was probably the easiest one to

:54:47. > :54:52.defend. Unfortunately Joe Mellor didn't quite reactor that. He was

:54:53. > :55:05.smart, Atkins. He saw that Joe Mellor stumbled. He was smart enough

:55:06. > :55:19.to pick that ball out. Stefan Ratchford...

:55:20. > :55:27.Missed a lot of the early season because of injury, Stefan Ratchford.

:55:28. > :55:36.And he was missed by Warrington. They had that awful start. But he's

:55:37. > :55:44.back, Warrington are back. A try scoring moment for England last week

:55:45. > :55:48.in Sydney against Samoa. The flag confirms its 6-6. It's really

:55:49. > :55:52.important for Widnes right now. Warrington looking to speed up the

:55:53. > :55:55.game. Widnes need to take the momentum the game and make sure that

:55:56. > :56:06.Warrington played a game at their speed. He made the mistake of

:56:07. > :56:10.running at the start yesterday, it didn't last long! He's absolutely

:56:11. > :56:16.spot-on. Yesterday the game was very tight. It was about this period

:56:17. > :56:20.Castleford broke out and scored try after try. Warrington exceptionally

:56:21. > :56:32.good at that themselves. Widnes have to be very careful, keep this game

:56:33. > :56:38.their speed. Seventh try of the season for him. Ashton Sims bringing

:56:39. > :56:48.it back. Warrington are looking for back-to-back moments of glory here.

:56:49. > :56:52.Widnes closing them down. Gidley, again. Daryl Clark's missing so

:56:53. > :57:01.Gidley operating in that number nine role.

:57:02. > :57:17.And off-loaded away! Watch out youngster, not too many of those,

:57:18. > :57:24.Brown with the pass, Russell slips. Can't get back to his feet and he

:57:25. > :57:28.knocks on. Warrington had the numbers. He was going straight for

:57:29. > :57:36.Russell on the wings. Would have had a walk in. The ball dipped. Couldn't

:57:37. > :57:48.quite collect the ball. Is a great piece of skill from Ratchford.

:57:49. > :57:59.Danger signs, they didn't quite control that set.

:58:00. > :58:07.Patrick van wants to get involved early. Mike Cooper came across and

:58:08. > :58:18.gave him a taste of his shoulder, I think. It's not often you see a big

:58:19. > :58:22.man like Ah Van on the ground. Buchanan in a bit of strife as well.

:58:23. > :58:32.Widnes will roll on for the moment without him. It's a dangerous period

:58:33. > :58:36.for Widnes Vikings. Warrington are looking strong. They picked up the

:58:37. > :58:43.pace of this game. Just have to make sure they complete the sets.

:58:44. > :58:48.Manuokafoa is on the field, we've just seen him. Ratchford should deal

:58:49. > :59:01.with that kick. Some confidence in that path. -- that path. Westwood

:59:02. > :59:12.ranging wide in the centre. Those are some of the latest scores. The

:59:13. > :59:24.quarterfinal draw is coming up as soon as we've finished here. Of the

:59:25. > :59:31.wings come Roby. When you make that kind of play you've got to come up

:59:32. > :59:36.with the goods, and he did. This is the last tackle coming up.

:59:37. > :59:41.Warrington 30 metres out trying to execute the perfect kick, if they

:59:42. > :59:48.can. An easy take for Patrick Ah Van. Kevin Brown is there. He's

:59:49. > :59:56.stolen the ball. And then he's being held down for too long I Hanbury who

:59:57. > :00:04.is shown a yellow card. He's in the sin-bin for the professional foul.

:00:05. > :00:11.What a play from Brown that was. A massive winger, just stole the ball,

:00:12. > :00:15.and they've lost a man with Hanbury walking off the field. Big ten

:00:16. > :00:22.minutes for Widnes Vikings to defend. He's taken the longest route

:00:23. > :00:32.off to give his team-mates a bit of a breather. Still going, still on

:00:33. > :00:38.the field. Eventually steps of. Ashton Sims with the first big

:00:39. > :00:38.bulldozing effort to test the resolve of those witnessed

:00:39. > :00:57.offenders. Test passed. Brown, the man who created this open

:00:58. > :01:03.up, looking to. Sims has another go and this time is unstoppable,

:01:04. > :01:07.rolling over, touching down, this referee is not entirely sure. He's

:01:08. > :01:12.going to the video so let's hear from our video referee. OK, we've

:01:13. > :01:17.got a try, I need to check the grounding. So, just looking at the

:01:18. > :01:27.grounding. And on this, I can't see the ball, I

:01:28. > :01:37.can now. He's still in control of the ball. And at that point it looks

:01:38. > :01:41.like... It's not got down. Right, I need another view on that, please, I

:01:42. > :01:48.can't clearly see the ball on the ground from that angle.

:01:49. > :01:53.So, on this, can I see the ball on the ground? It in his right arm.

:01:54. > :02:01.This might give me something clearer. There it doesn't get down.

:02:02. > :02:11.On that angle, the ball is held up. OK, can we have another angle,

:02:12. > :02:18.please? So at this moment in time... I think it's held up. This can be

:02:19. > :02:23.slowed down. This shows that the ball is up, it isn't down there, it

:02:24. > :02:30.can't be down there because his arm is there. He's never got down at

:02:31. > :02:34.that time. Does we have any more angles? I am overturning the

:02:35. > :02:40.position because I can't see the ball on the ground, I've got

:02:41. > :02:46.evidence to suggest the ball is up. I am giving no dry, the ball is out.

:02:47. > :02:57.Take a bow, Eamon O'Carroll, what a try saving tackle that was.

:02:58. > :03:01.Fantastic, he got himself in between defenders, he just got himself under

:03:02. > :03:05.the ball. Made it difficult for him to get it down and he's got the

:03:06. > :03:12.decision there. Great play from Eamon O'Carroll. He doesn't agree

:03:13. > :03:15.with the decision. But he was held up over the line so they still have

:03:16. > :03:20.position and possession here, Warrington.

:03:21. > :03:34.If this is just delayed inevitable or can Widnes hang on? There is

:03:35. > :03:39.another set of six tackles being given here. Six more tackles for

:03:40. > :03:50.Widnes to depend on their line. That was an odd way of getting back to

:03:51. > :03:55.his feet! Right-hand side, Kevin Brown, it was just a delay of the

:03:56. > :03:59.inevitable. Kevin Brown against his former team, a little leap in the

:04:00. > :04:04.air, a punch of the air. And Warrington do have the lead, for the

:04:05. > :04:07.very first time in the game. How many times has Kevin Brown done that

:04:08. > :04:11.in his career? He's one of the best in the world at the short goal.

:04:12. > :04:16.Right into the heart of the defensive line. You cannot take a

:04:17. > :04:21.dummy off Kevin Brown. We know he's going to accelerate through the

:04:22. > :04:24.gaps. Here we see Atkins with the off-load, we knew that Widnes were

:04:25. > :04:29.going to be under all sorts of pressure. Brown gets in at dummy

:04:30. > :04:34.half, the defender gets out, he squeezes in a terrific try from

:04:35. > :04:40.Kevin Brown. He's definitely hard to stop from there. He always had the

:04:41. > :04:49.intention of running and beating him that Widnes defenders in and around

:04:50. > :04:55.the ruck who moved up to give him the space. I think there was an

:04:56. > :04:58.extra cheer for Kevin Brown because it was irritate the man macro fans

:04:59. > :05:12.more, because he -- there was an extra cheerful Kevin

:05:13. > :05:20.Brown because it would irritate the Widnes fans even more, he was once

:05:21. > :05:26.one of theirs, and now he is belonging to Warrington. A terrific

:05:27. > :05:34.kick, two out of two, Warrington now lead. Same rules, they have got to

:05:35. > :05:38.man down now, they have got to top the ruck speed of this Warrington

:05:39. > :05:43.team. They are going to try and get this depleted Warrington team, they

:05:44. > :05:48.are walking back trying to get that time so they can get Hanbury back on

:05:49. > :05:55.the field so they can look like a whole continent. I think we're going

:05:56. > :06:00.to see the top line of Martin Russell and Stefan Ratchford running

:06:01. > :06:08.out now, there will be along minutes for Widnes. They are a man up, they

:06:09. > :06:10.have got to man down, that is a good line. I would like to say it is

:06:11. > :06:29.pre-scripted but it just came to me! Surely that was a knock-on. Well,

:06:30. > :06:39.they got away with one there, Warrington.

:06:40. > :06:55.Was there a touch on that? So many questions.

:06:56. > :07:01.Lineham has some power about him, but they've got him and dealt with

:07:02. > :07:11.him. Warrington looking dangerous, looming large on that Widnes line

:07:12. > :07:14.once more. A late decision, a poor pass, some dreadful handling and

:07:15. > :07:21.Widnes get away with it. That's another slow scrum for Widnes,

:07:22. > :07:29.hammering back on the field. Just a bit of miscommunication between

:07:30. > :07:33.Patton and Gidley, Gidley so used to playing in the halves. And

:07:34. > :07:36.Warrington so used to having Darren Clarke there, probably a little bit

:07:37. > :07:41.of miscommunication. Certainly we knew about the Warrington side, they

:07:42. > :07:47.very much like the physical side of the game, they will back up

:07:48. > :07:54.defensively. But they have to the good with the ball. Warrington

:07:55. > :08:01.looking to pin them down here for as long as they can as well. Widnes

:08:02. > :08:06.backs against the wall, against their own try line.

:08:07. > :08:15.They've got a bit of give, penalty, they will be relieved at that. A big

:08:16. > :08:19.penalty for Widnes. They were under real pressure there. Warrington

:08:20. > :08:23.opting the tempo physically. You can see Joe Mellor trying to relieve the

:08:24. > :08:32.pressure for his team, get them up field and get some position in this

:08:33. > :08:38.game. James Chapelhow the man here, his twin brother Ted is also in the

:08:39. > :08:44.squad. They call him B one and B two, the two twins. They both played

:08:45. > :08:48.tennis for Cheshire as well, one of the most unlikely facts. Two big

:08:49. > :08:58.lumbering rugby players have represented Cheshire at tennis.

:08:59. > :09:06.Buchanan, what a chance that was! Well, he looked one wet, past the

:09:07. > :09:08.other. Through the gap. They will have to have a look at that. It was

:09:09. > :09:20.close. He's not smiling. I'm not sure, I

:09:21. > :09:27.think that's OK, I think that's a flat ball. I think that's unlucky.

:09:28. > :09:40.Lovely stuff, lovely stuff. Great, nice soft hands. Territory still to

:09:41. > :09:49.be debited by Warrington, what about this? Great tackle from Ah Van, the

:09:50. > :09:52.two number fives in a real big combat, Russell looked to have got

:09:53. > :09:57.the edge, and Ah Van said, you have not. He was making a mistake and

:09:58. > :10:01.missed him in the first place, he thought, oh, my God, I better get

:10:02. > :10:05.back here and do something. He got a brilliant result of the struggling

:10:06. > :10:07.back and getting the play. He has run twice as hard to get to the

:10:08. > :10:15.sideline and get the results. Mr Brooke, I think it is on this

:10:16. > :10:34.side. Dominic Crosby on the field. He was

:10:35. > :10:37.playing a while last week and was really, really good. So Warrington

:10:38. > :10:51.will be hoping that he can reproduce that form again here.

:10:52. > :10:58.Still with only 12 men against Warrington's 13, Widnes. Another

:10:59. > :11:14.four minutes or so for Hanbury in the sin-bin.

:11:15. > :11:22.One play to go in the set and it's a penalty, it penalty. Dell go again,

:11:23. > :11:26.they got another six here. They looked dangerous with the ball in

:11:27. > :11:33.hand, even without face macro, they look as though they're -- even

:11:34. > :11:41.without Hanbury, they look as though they are causing problems for

:11:42. > :11:45.Warrington. So, the tap, the Warrington players are being ordered

:11:46. > :11:49.backwards, the Inc reached by an extra foot or so. Here comes the

:11:50. > :12:06.first attacking moment. Oh Carol, try saver at one and, very

:12:07. > :12:33.nearly a try saver at the moment. It's getting a bit predictable.

:12:34. > :12:42.Maybe a play that isn't a runner from dummy half here.

:12:43. > :12:48.That was a great recovery from Lineham to feel that ball, go down

:12:49. > :12:54.his haunches and clean it up, because it was a smart kit from

:12:55. > :12:58.Mellor. Did exceptionally well, Mellor, there was some real kick

:12:59. > :13:04.pressure on him. He weaved his way through two defenders. Brilliant

:13:05. > :13:13.from Tom Lineham. A bit of blood there you might be able to see. It's

:13:14. > :13:18.on Eamon O'Carroll. Former Wigan man, Eamon O'Carroll, six years at

:13:19. > :13:21.that club. About to be back to a full condiment of 13 players.

:13:22. > :13:37.Hanbury ready for the return. Got to go off, you've got to go,

:13:38. > :13:46.mate, you already been treated once. He has to go off, he's already been

:13:47. > :13:50.treated, just take off, please. So, they're spilling blood for their

:13:51. > :13:58.side, but they need to get cleaned up, shirts change, to come back on

:13:59. > :14:05.again. Are you bringing somebody on? They've got 11 players on the field.

:14:06. > :14:10.They've got to organise this a bit better, put somebody on change your

:14:11. > :14:15.shirt and get back out there, surely. Still 11 players on the

:14:16. > :14:21.field for Widnes. Manuokafoa is coming on, he's got a different

:14:22. > :14:29.headband on. They are after 12. And Hanbury is back on so they are back

:14:30. > :14:32.to a full 13 now. Cooper, that's not the kind of player you want on the

:14:33. > :14:40.sixth tackle, wedded he come from, why did you pass to him? And it's a

:14:41. > :14:42.very cheap handover. They are a bit rattled here, Warrington, not as

:14:43. > :14:47.fast flowing and fluid as we expected them to be. Widnes have got

:14:48. > :14:50.Willie under the skin of this Warrington side. Two they have

:14:51. > :15:32.really got under the skin. It's back to one, because Atkins

:15:33. > :15:41.played at that, and he says play on. It is play on. Well, there is a bit

:15:42. > :15:46.of luck from Atkins. Super play, you make your own luck. Ryan Atkins kept

:15:47. > :15:51.pressure on him, went again, managed to return the ball for his own side.

:15:52. > :15:55.That was the initial kick pressure, aggressive, gets the ball back,

:15:56. > :15:56.super play from Ryan Atkins. So Warrington advancing towards the

:15:57. > :16:19.halfway line. Mike Cooper scored his first try on

:16:20. > :16:21.his return to Warrington last year. He had spent a couple of years down

:16:22. > :16:43.under. Standing up to the intensity of the

:16:44. > :16:46.battle, these young fellas here so far. You can see the difference, but

:16:47. > :16:53.a physical challenge, Warrington are going to the tackle, they are

:16:54. > :16:56.winning most of their collisions. They have got to find a way of

:16:57. > :17:03.winning the ruck to progress down field.

:17:04. > :17:15.Warrington have got youngsters as well, young Morgan Smith there.

:17:16. > :17:23.It's a big set here from Widnes, because last week they were in a

:17:24. > :17:29.dominant position and conceded very close to that first half ending, and

:17:30. > :18:14.that sets the second half so they have got to be careful here.

:18:15. > :18:23.On tackle six, Warrington are close. There was a blow of the whistle

:18:24. > :18:26.there. Well, I thought he was looking at an advantage, it sounded

:18:27. > :18:29.as though he had blown his whistle but obviously not. People are

:18:30. > :18:38.looking quizzically at him. But it's just the handover. A big defensive

:18:39. > :18:41.play from Widnes. Ratchford had to scramble and bring him down short,

:18:42. > :18:47.and this will allow them to go into half-time still in the game. The

:18:48. > :18:53.referee blows his whistle, for half-time, but what a fine cup tie

:18:54. > :18:56.that is in the first half. 12 points to six, and Widnes have brought

:18:57. > :19:03.plenty to the party here so far. They are playing their part. Very,

:19:04. > :19:09.very tight. Let's find out who Damien Johnson is

:19:10. > :19:13.talking to. Is there a feeling of disappointment, you've not taken

:19:14. > :19:17.more of your chances? No, I think the finishing of our set has been

:19:18. > :19:22.the issue. We haven't built as much pressure as we could at the end of

:19:23. > :19:25.the set. We had not the best kicks so we are going to prove that. It

:19:26. > :19:30.should you have taken more of their advantage when they were down to 12?

:19:31. > :19:33.Yes and no, there was an opportunity but they defended well. We expected

:19:34. > :19:37.them to come here and put in a big effort. It is Challenge Cup, a

:19:38. > :19:48.knockout game, we expect a tough second half. Thanks, Hep Cahill is

:19:49. > :19:51.with me, that Widnes forward, to terrific first half from young side.

:19:52. > :19:56.Yeah, the young guys put their hand up there with a big job for them to

:19:57. > :20:01.come in, they made it tough for us. Another big half the fight, we have

:20:02. > :20:04.got to back it up. What is the key to wake the game open in the

:20:05. > :20:15.tut-tutting that effort in again, last week we fell away and we are

:20:16. > :20:21.going to play well here. That was a heck of a first half. It

:20:22. > :20:25.was really great, Warrington had better possession and territory, all

:20:26. > :20:28.of the statistics say that Warrington are favourite but they

:20:29. > :20:30.are only just ahead on the scoreboard. Widnes have been

:20:31. > :20:38.dog-eared in how they played, they started the game very well. -- they

:20:39. > :20:43.have been dogged in how they played. Widnes have been clinging onto

:20:44. > :20:47.Warrington. How impressive have Widnes been for you? They have taken

:20:48. > :20:52.the game to Warrington, they have had control of the game, a couple of

:20:53. > :20:58.penalties lost them amends. They've had a really start. And it is

:20:59. > :21:04.pointing at the crowd. They will be be pleased to only be six points

:21:05. > :21:08.behind. With one yellow card. And Warrington are leading on the

:21:09. > :21:14.scoreboard, but should be leading by more? Yes, they have made 181 errors

:21:15. > :21:20.this year, and I think their opening exchanges, but really reflected

:21:21. > :21:25.that. Mr chances. When you look at -- they missed chances. When you

:21:26. > :21:29.look at Warrington, they are trying to create some space that they came

:21:30. > :21:35.up with errors. That invited Widnes into the game. As we saw yesterday

:21:36. > :21:40.with some balance and Castleford, and St Helens, we have to be

:21:41. > :21:47.clinical. It was strange, some forward passes were inexplicable.

:21:48. > :21:51.They had a little bit of lack of depth as well. There were not enough

:21:52. > :21:55.depth of there. When you play a few overlaps, you have to work up your

:21:56. > :21:59.depth to take apart and they didn't do it. It has been Warrington's

:22:00. > :22:03.season, almost encapsulated there, it has been some great stuff that so

:22:04. > :22:08.many errors. Yes, once they controlled the ball and got the

:22:09. > :22:10.right part of the field, they were very dangerous. Kevin Brown,

:22:11. > :22:18.Ratchford, grew in confidence, and as the game sped up, they looked

:22:19. > :22:25.more of a threat. That is going to be key for both sides, the speed of

:22:26. > :22:29.that run. We saw Widnes at the start, the opening exchanges,

:22:30. > :22:34.utilising the ruck speedster getting going. It got them the first try.

:22:35. > :22:44.Yes, it was an important part of the game, for Widnes and in parts are

:22:45. > :22:55.crucial part of the game. The dummy half, you have got Hanbury and hear

:22:56. > :23:01.my, running out at Danny half -- Heremaia, running out at dummy half.

:23:02. > :23:06.That create speed for Widnes and challenges this Warrington team to

:23:07. > :23:13.be accountable. It puts the defence under pressure. This try here, it

:23:14. > :23:17.ricocheted around, and then Widnes move the ball and we see everything

:23:18. > :23:23.that's good about Widnes here. Hanbury trying to isolate some

:23:24. > :23:27.space, Chris Hill a little bit too aggressive, Hanbury will find space.

:23:28. > :23:32.He pokes his nose through, you think is going to score and he doesn't.

:23:33. > :23:40.But Heremaia spots it, calls people onto the ball and Burke is there to

:23:41. > :23:44.score the try. That came from the ruck speed. Is that one of the keys

:23:45. > :23:52.to beating Warrington, be in their face? Yes, they worked hard, they

:23:53. > :24:01.had a lot of dummy runs, Heremaia is doing it. It is a lovely flat ball

:24:02. > :24:08.which is difficult to defend. It is effective, stick to it. Not many

:24:09. > :24:13.errors coming from it, so they are going to have to do more of that.

:24:14. > :24:17.Denis will be upset with the first try they gave away. Yes, they were

:24:18. > :24:21.under pressure. Watch this, they were short on numbers on the

:24:22. > :24:25.left-hand side. Mellor goes in, he realises that the winger is on his

:24:26. > :24:30.own. He shoots on out, but they get the numbers wrong. He shoot out to

:24:31. > :24:36.the line and it is a lovely run by Adkins, he spots that Mellor's all

:24:37. > :24:41.watching and doesn't spot him, and easy finish. A good line from

:24:42. > :24:47.Atkins, he's difficult to spot near the line. If you are thinking about

:24:48. > :24:51.other things than tackling Ryan Atkins, he scores. Widnes's problem

:24:52. > :24:55.defensively is whenever Warrington have gone down to write the line for

:24:56. > :25:00.Widnes, they haven't dealt with that. What do you think Tony Smith

:25:01. > :25:05.will be saying, do you think you will be happy with that first half?

:25:06. > :25:07.He will be happy with the way they have created opportunities, he will

:25:08. > :25:15.be disappointed with the unforced errors, before it -- the forward

:25:16. > :25:19.passes were inexplicable. They have got to have more composure and foot

:25:20. > :25:22.Widnes away when they have opportunity. We see Kevin Brown in

:25:23. > :25:27.the white boots, we talked about him before the game, he did not play

:25:28. > :25:33.against Widnes earlier in the season, he has risen to this. Yes,

:25:34. > :25:38.he chased a kick from Declan Patton, ripped a ball from Patrick Ah Van

:25:39. > :25:44.which is not easy to do. This is where Warrington on dangerous. He

:25:45. > :25:48.plays the ball so quickly, Widnes cannot get off their line as they

:25:49. > :25:52.would like to. Kevin is a big man for half-backs and he falls over the

:25:53. > :25:58.line. A great piece of play, a couple of pieces, once stealing the

:25:59. > :26:03.ball from Patrick Ah Van and secondly to bring them forward

:26:04. > :26:06.ball from Patrick Ah Van and secondly to bring them to the line.

:26:07. > :26:10.It is great from Gidley as well, creating the space for Kevin Brown.

:26:11. > :26:14.I thought there would be a few more points with the yellow card, because

:26:15. > :26:20.the pressure was on. Widnes did well to hold up. What did you make of the

:26:21. > :26:26.yellow card, fair? It was professional foul, as we have talked

:26:27. > :26:29.about and what has been prevalent in this game, anyone playing the ball

:26:30. > :26:36.quickly near your line is a threat. Rhys Hanbury makes the decision to

:26:37. > :26:40.hold him down. I thought it was a harsh thing to sit within him in

:26:41. > :26:43.that situation. It was not a try scoring opportunity but it was a

:26:44. > :26:46.cynical professional foul. I was disappointed to see him go off

:26:47. > :26:51.because he was having a real influence on the game for Widnes. He

:26:52. > :26:56.defended well, he will be disappointed in that, and Kevin

:26:57. > :27:00.Brown has ripped the ball off him. Widnes really did show, they only

:27:01. > :27:03.gave up one try in that, they are defending their lives. The only

:27:04. > :27:10.question is how much this effort is ticking out of them. What interested

:27:11. > :27:14.me is that Widnes absorbed a lot of pressure and hit back. Manuokafoa is

:27:15. > :27:22.pretty much though here to score a try. Some little efforts that were

:27:23. > :27:25.telling, he puts Matty Russell in touch there, that is a desperation

:27:26. > :27:30.to defend. When you've got players in your side doing that, a great

:27:31. > :27:34.side, and his team-mate appreciate the effort. I think the forward

:27:35. > :27:37.doing exceptionally well for Widnes, they are lovely for the off-load,

:27:38. > :27:43.and that nearly went over. If he was in a gap, I feel though that they

:27:44. > :27:47.are just hanging on at the moment. Because of the opportunities

:27:48. > :27:52.Warrington have created. That's what cup games are all about. If they are

:27:53. > :28:00.in this game, it's panic stations for Warrington. And the key for me

:28:01. > :28:03.is the speed of the ruck. When Widnes are in control, they look

:28:04. > :28:06.like they are in the ascendancy, and when Warrington are in control of

:28:07. > :28:11.it, they have scored. Whoever controls that ruck will come out on

:28:12. > :28:14.top. At the end of this game, we will have the draw for the

:28:15. > :28:18.quarterfinals. Hopefully that will be on BBC Two, if not, on the

:28:19. > :28:26.website. These are the latest scores in the other games. There was a late

:28:27. > :28:31.kick-off against Leeds. It's looking like we will not have any major

:28:32. > :28:35.upset at this stage. We will go on to the red button and onto the BBC

:28:36. > :28:45.sport website at fourth time of this match, at 5pm. -- full-time. But you

:28:46. > :28:49.could stay on BBC Two to watch highlights of the diamond league,

:28:50. > :28:53.and then match of the day two tonight, tonight. And a special

:28:54. > :28:57.match of the day tomorrow night which will be the homecoming for the

:28:58. > :29:07.Premier League champions, Chelsea, as they take on Watford.

:29:08. > :29:10.Let's go down to Damien. Denis Betts joins us, your players gave us a

:29:11. > :29:16.terrific 40 minutes, what did you say to them? More of the same, I

:29:17. > :29:19.just want them to compete. We are broken up, there are players out

:29:20. > :29:24.there who shouldn't be out there. I want them to compete. We seen it in

:29:25. > :29:28.the first half, we just have to care enough to go hard again. A learning

:29:29. > :29:32.curve for the youngsters, isn't it? It is hostile out there, but they

:29:33. > :29:38.are holding their own and we will be a case for another 40 minutes.

:29:39. > :29:42.Denis Betts wanting his side to show how much they want it. Let's go back

:29:43. > :29:46.to our commentary team. It's still in the balance at 12

:29:47. > :29:50.points to six. The game might break open in the second half and little

:29:51. > :29:57.more, but Widnes still in there and battling hard, and if they can

:29:58. > :30:02.produce more, we might have, is upset to strong word? But they were

:30:03. > :30:06.second favourites coming in. It would be an upset with the amount of

:30:07. > :30:10.players they have missing. What is key to the success of the second

:30:11. > :30:13.half is the completion rate. The ruck rate is important, but they

:30:14. > :30:21.have got to complete the sets to give them charts. -- give them a

:30:22. > :30:23.chance. I think that's a good tactic. You can make selective input

:30:24. > :30:34.like Kay Hill made, as the kit -- I think it will help Widnes. If

:30:35. > :30:38.they score next, it will give them a lift to go with the game. But if

:30:39. > :30:41.Warrington score next, just might take the pressure off them and allow

:30:42. > :30:47.them to express themselves a bit better.

:30:48. > :30:53.Johnstone and the kick from Hanbury back in amongst his team-mates,

:30:54. > :30:58.after that spell in the sin-bin, is a very decent kick. Warrington will

:30:59. > :31:08.get it back but only ten metres from their own line. Reflecting on that

:31:09. > :31:13.draw. Some heavyweight names already in Salford. Castleford, Hull,

:31:14. > :31:18.Wakefield, they'll be licking their lips at the prospect of who they

:31:19. > :31:22.might be facing. Leeds and Wigan at the moment leading against Barrow

:31:23. > :31:26.and Swinton. There will be some tasty ties to come out of that bowl

:31:27. > :31:34.a little later. Will it be Warrington or Widnes who will be in

:31:35. > :31:47.there with them? Warrington having to start from deep. Jullien, the

:31:48. > :31:53.Frenchman. He played in Brisbane for the feeder club at the Broncos as

:31:54. > :32:01.well. Decent defence from Widnes at the moment. Warrington trying to get

:32:02. > :32:06.themselves downfield. What news from the dressing room at half-time? Tony

:32:07. > :32:10.Smith wants them to stop the Widnes off-loads, play more direct, and he

:32:11. > :32:15.wants better last play options. We saw them spill ball and he said if

:32:16. > :32:26.they can rule that help they can win the game. Atkins with the kick, this

:32:27. > :32:30.is the sixth tackle. Dangerously close to his own goal-line. The

:32:31. > :32:42.Australian hangs onto his position. I'm sure Tony Smith will be

:32:43. > :32:46.delighted with that last play. Ah Van again, battering ram down the

:32:47. > :32:55.middle. He's looking strong. Buchanan... He's had a good game,

:32:56. > :32:59.Buchanan. Heremaia looking to his left, Johnstone trying to duck under

:33:00. > :33:06.the tackles, Conte. Here's the play a game. Ratchford has to change

:33:07. > :33:11.direction a little to field the ball safely off the bounce. Look where

:33:12. > :33:15.he's going, almost doctor the 40 metre mark. There's a good return

:33:16. > :33:24.and Warrington looking to get some foot momentum. But they are matching

:33:25. > :33:35.him and pulling him down. Cooper this time, strong and direct. Which

:33:36. > :33:43.way do they go? Towards his left hand side. Patton runs into a pocket

:33:44. > :33:51.of defenders, bounces out but goes to ground. This is Hill. Ball

:33:52. > :33:59.wrapped up in his arms so he can't get it away. Last play. Ratchford

:34:00. > :34:07.running it, trying to, but showing the ball to his team-mates as if to

:34:08. > :34:13.say, where were you? It's the play before, Patton really struggle to

:34:14. > :34:17.make the space up. Ratchford saw it in the next play, unfortunately the

:34:18. > :34:21.rest of the team-mates didn't stop me Warrington need to flatten up a

:34:22. > :34:25.little bit. They are obviously missing Daryl Clark. Everyone plays

:34:26. > :34:42.naturally flat with him. He's not there today. Wrestled down. There is

:34:43. > :34:50.Daryl Clark, not happy with the fact his team have just given a penalty

:34:51. > :34:56.away. The first one he was trying to buy a penalty there. It's that

:34:57. > :35:08.fight, you fight on the floor, you get lucky. Seven time Challenge Cup

:35:09. > :35:18.winner Denis Betts. What a career he had. At Wigan, then Auckland for a

:35:19. > :35:27.couple of years, then back at Wigan. Here's the platform for Widnes. Ten

:35:28. > :35:33.out. Johnson with the pass, that is good but Liam Walsh pulls down, just

:35:34. > :35:39.short. Heremaia goes quickly again. Chapelhow! He has got there, Jay

:35:40. > :35:51.Chapelhow, over to score. What a start to the second half that is for

:35:52. > :35:57.Widnes! Hang on... A double check for obstruction. We are looking for

:35:58. > :36:13.obstruction. He's now getting out of the way,

:36:14. > :36:20.he's not obstructed anybody in my opinion there. He's not interfering

:36:21. > :36:24.with play. I just need to make sure he's grounded the ball. I'm happy

:36:25. > :36:29.about Hanbury not obstructing anybody so let's just check the

:36:30. > :36:42.grounding. He retreats, that's fine, let's make sure the ball is grounded

:36:43. > :36:52.cleanly. That is going to be a try. A try scorer, J Chapelhow. Great

:36:53. > :36:56.grip on the ball. Find between two Warrington defenders and plonks it

:36:57. > :37:03.over the line. Widnes clearly back in this game. Only his second ever

:37:04. > :37:11.try. They look very dangerous, they haven't had it consistently in this

:37:12. > :37:15.game. Heremaia picks the perfect pass as we saw in the first half.

:37:16. > :37:22.Picks it again in the second. Great finish. If they can get possession

:37:23. > :37:28.in that area they now believe they can score points. Denis Betts and

:37:29. > :37:34.his assistant Mick Cassidy, happy days. They aren't going away here.

:37:35. > :37:36.They are clinging on this game. Patrick Ah Van with a kick that put

:37:37. > :37:51.them level. Is it accurate? Yes it is. It is all

:37:52. > :37:54.square at 12-12. This game has just become hugely psychological. Widnes

:37:55. > :37:58.have got nothing to lose and Warrington have got all the pressure

:37:59. > :38:04.because they came in as the favourites. A psychological

:38:05. > :38:13.thriller. Scoreboard pressure. Plays on the minds of all the players.

:38:14. > :38:22.Widnes score first, we've got a game on. 12-12. Shirts are off. Cup tied

:38:23. > :38:37.to be sorted here. Plenty of the second half to go. Here come Widnes.

:38:38. > :38:47.Fuelled by confidence. Chapelhow the try scorer. Kept it alive, a little

:38:48. > :38:52.bit of endeavour and enterprise. There's a little bit more. Here

:38:53. > :38:57.comes Hanbury, look at him weave and dodge. They are not taking the

:38:58. > :39:03.tackles, they want to get in their half. Great play from Widnes.

:39:04. > :39:07.Off-load football, selective enabling them to march the

:39:08. > :39:14.Warrington team down the field. Great tactics. Manuokafoa, deep

:39:15. > :39:19.inside enemy territory. Mellor knocked down by Lineham so it'll be

:39:20. > :39:30.another set here for Widnes, all things being equal.

:39:31. > :39:37.Swooped around the back to create an opportunity. He had to throw his arm

:39:38. > :39:41.out there to stop it. We know Widnes can score when they get in these

:39:42. > :39:49.areas, another opportunity for them here. Oh Carol needs a bit of dental

:39:50. > :40:08.work before he can come back on because of the bleeding. Gil Dudson

:40:09. > :40:21.the Welsh international coming on. The fourth interchange for Widnes of

:40:22. > :40:36.the day. Heremaia praise it left. They came out quickly there, the

:40:37. > :40:44.Warrington line. 30 yards away, 12-12 the scoreline. Widnes looking

:40:45. > :40:48.good at the moment. Buchanan. Somebody has just whispered, golden

:40:49. > :41:00.point in my ear. It is a potential of course. Here is Manuokafoa.

:41:01. > :41:04.Heremaia, Cahill. Johnstone helps it on... He manages to get that ball

:41:05. > :41:09.away to Dudson but he has to go down with ball in hand. Last play of the

:41:10. > :41:18.set and it's a messy one with a Warrington player lying all over it.

:41:19. > :41:21.It's a penalty on the very last tackle Widnes get a penalty. It's

:41:22. > :41:26.handy for Widnes but I thought that was a try scoring opportunity. I

:41:27. > :41:32.thought they left the player on the ground, they adjudicated that J

:41:33. > :41:38.Chapelhow has been impeded by the Warrington defender. I think

:41:39. > :41:42.Heremaia wanted that penalty. He knew exactly what he wanted out of

:41:43. > :41:46.that. This gives Widnes the opportunity to take the lead now.

:41:47. > :41:50.This becomes psychological. Warrington were the firm favourites

:41:51. > :41:53.before the game. It's amazing what pressure can do before the game.

:41:54. > :41:59.There's an expectation they are going to go on and win. 30 minutes

:42:00. > :42:03.to go, they are a long way from winning. You simply have to get out

:42:04. > :42:14.of the way if you're in that position. No sympathy. Might not

:42:15. > :42:18.have wanted to be there. Patrick Ah Van to give his side the lead. For

:42:19. > :42:30.the first time since the 21st minute. He boots it hard and through

:42:31. > :42:38.and 14-12, Widnes fans are having fun here today. So is the Widnes

:42:39. > :42:45.coach. They came as underdogs, they are winning with 30 minutes left to

:42:46. > :42:49.play. Can they keep the story going here? They are playing exceptionally

:42:50. > :42:59.well with the ball in hand but their completion rate is over 70% now.

:43:00. > :43:05.Warrington a bit under 60, 64-65%. On that basis they can keep this

:43:06. > :43:20.going. Ratchford puts it high. Buchanan brings it back. Barrow are

:43:21. > :43:25.trailing in the cup tie. Wigan winning against Swinton. He's lost

:43:26. > :43:35.it! Just when they were looking dangerous again. Brilliant off-load

:43:36. > :43:39.from Manuokafoa. He releases Hanbury. Not sure the second one is

:43:40. > :43:47.as good. He dropped the ball before he gets the opportunity to drop it.

:43:48. > :43:51.That's a moment that given plenty of encouragement to the Warrington

:43:52. > :43:56.fans. Not only has that potential attack broken down but it's given

:43:57. > :44:00.Warrington possession here. Again, should be, 90 members and of the

:44:01. > :44:12.time they will get it back. In a very good position. Here they go,

:44:13. > :44:18.Kevin Brown. Run in. Morgan Smith waits at dummy half. Again, the play

:44:19. > :44:23.of the ball is slow. Here's George King. We weren't expecting to see

:44:24. > :44:28.him today but for the late injury to Harvey Livett. Here he is pushing

:44:29. > :44:41.the a little closer. Smith steps away. Patton with the pass. He's

:44:42. > :44:47.just about kept hold of it, Jullien. Brown's through the gap! Brown

:44:48. > :44:53.scores his second try of the afternoon. Chance given, chance

:44:54. > :45:00.taken. Warrington back in the lead. It was the off-load from Widnes.

:45:01. > :45:04.Hanbury couldn't hold onto the ball, giving Warrington the possession.

:45:05. > :45:12.Able to launch another attack. If that man again, Kevin Brown. We

:45:13. > :45:17.saw... Hanbury exonerated through, just couldn't hold onto it. Two or

:45:18. > :45:30.three players later, here he is, that man Brown. He just exhilarated

:45:31. > :45:39.through. Ball into hands, confusing the defence, great try from Kevin

:45:40. > :45:52.Brown. Brilliant against Brisbane, super against Samoa, and here he is

:45:53. > :45:59.breaking Widnes hearts. Ratchford's two out of two so far. Challenge Cup

:46:00. > :46:11.finalist back in 2012 with Warrington. Would love to get back

:46:12. > :46:16.to Wembley. Here goes the kick. Flags are up, confirmation, 18-14.

:46:17. > :46:21.And the pendulum swings back Warrington's way. It's hard to be

:46:22. > :46:25.critical of Hanbury. Here we see Brown, he's in the running

:46:26. > :46:30.opportunity on the off-load. Picks the gap between Mellor and the

:46:31. > :46:36.outside defender and just too quick is Kevin Brown. Smart play. It's

:46:37. > :46:39.hard to be critical of Rhys Hanbury, the way they've progress themselves

:46:40. > :46:46.in this game with their off-load philosophy has got them to the

:46:47. > :46:50.points they have. I think they've come with a strategy and part of the

:46:51. > :47:01.strategy is off-loading. It's all about risk and reward. Warrington

:47:02. > :47:16.looking to build on that lead taken. Crosby running it in hard. There are

:47:17. > :47:25.some young eager defenders there. King on the halfway line. Two

:47:26. > :47:32.tackles and set to go. Sims crushes forward, takes on Buchanan and

:47:33. > :47:39.Dudson. Now Smith goes left again... Patton just gets the kick before he

:47:40. > :47:45.is crushed by Cahill. It's a good take by young Roby, the 18-year-old

:47:46. > :47:52.has performed pretty decently today. Yes, that's the energy you want from

:47:53. > :47:59.your players. Makes it exceptionally difficult to put a quality kick in.

:48:00. > :48:07.We see Dudson putting pressure on him. Patrick Ah Van down the middle.

:48:08. > :48:12.Their two of them on the pitch? We've seen plenty of him in the

:48:13. > :48:25.middle and on the edges. There's the off-load. Picked up smartly. A

:48:26. > :48:29.scampering run forward again. The kick is high, Ratchford has got to

:48:30. > :48:39.cover some distance to get there. Having got there there is a threat.

:48:40. > :48:48.Got a 17-year-old on the field as well, Danny Walker who wears the 45.

:48:49. > :48:53.Those who followed Luke Robinson's career closely, just have a look at

:48:54. > :49:07.Danny Walker. He is the spitting image of Luke Robinson. Lost, lost,

:49:08. > :49:12.but stolen. Penalty. Widnes have controlled the ruck exceptionally

:49:13. > :49:16.well for large periods. You just feel they've been given a bit looser

:49:17. > :49:22.in the tackle. Warrington allowed to play is a bit quicker. Now create

:49:23. > :49:27.opportunities from this team. Ashton Sims battling forward, getting an

:49:28. > :49:32.off-load, picked up by Morgan Smith. Here he goes with a run. Declan

:49:33. > :49:38.Patton skip some tops and tries to take them on, runs through almost

:49:39. > :49:41.the attempts of Burke. The recovery from the Widnes defence is just

:49:42. > :49:47.about in time but Warrington still have it. Not any more they don't.

:49:48. > :49:51.That's a great tackle. They were going for the same plate Brown, the

:49:52. > :49:55.little turn up play, jumping to a defender and flicked the ball back

:49:56. > :50:03.for Brown for a run or a pass play. He flew out the line and him,

:50:04. > :50:06.basically. It was a good bashing as well, good tackle from the young

:50:07. > :50:16.fellow. It's the young hooker Danny Walker. Yes. I'm sure King's ribs

:50:17. > :50:23.will be sought tomorrow. As soon as he took it he went right underneath

:50:24. > :50:24.his ribs. 17 years old dishing out tackles like that. His Patrick Ah

:50:25. > :51:00.Van. Mellor, in danger of having it

:51:01. > :51:30.stolen. Did he get a touch on that? No, he

:51:31. > :51:33.did. It's good tactics, isn't it? Don't allow Ratchford, Russell,

:51:34. > :51:35.Lineham, any opportunity to bring the ball back. Find the sideline.

:51:36. > :51:55.He's looking there. My apologies, Jordan Johnstone is

:51:56. > :51:59.the Luke Robinson lookalike. Ratchford is 15 yards from his own

:52:00. > :52:09.line here. Warrington needing to roll up their sleeves. They have the

:52:10. > :52:15.lead back, but it's far from secure. Russell zooming in, put down,

:52:16. > :52:17.Ratchford picks up, off he goes. Gets the off-load, giddily spins it

:52:18. > :52:34.left. Now they've got options. Jullien goes back into the little

:52:35. > :52:36.hole... Widnes recover, for the moment. But Warrington are coming

:52:37. > :52:51.again with giddily. There's a moment of fortune...

:52:52. > :53:00.There's only one tackle to go in the set. Penalty for Warrington. An

:53:01. > :53:04.opportunity here, massive opportunity. Kurt Gidley just been

:53:05. > :53:08.reintroduced at hooker, he's got lots of vision. You will be making

:53:09. > :53:22.opportunities around the ruck and Widnes need to be very care. -- very

:53:23. > :53:27.careful. I think I probably agree with that. That'll give him a bit of

:53:28. > :53:30.confidence and pressure building up an Warrington just releases that

:53:31. > :54:05.pressure a bit and allows them to play.

:54:06. > :54:17.Stefan Ratchford looking to settle Warrington's nerves a little more

:54:18. > :54:19.here. With a kick that goes over the stand, never mind the sticks. Four

:54:20. > :54:42.out of four. 20-14. Leads still healthily in the lead

:54:43. > :54:46.against Barrow. Got a trip to Toronto next week have Barrow.

:54:47. > :54:51.Swinton beat Huddersfield in the last round and are now trading at

:54:52. > :55:02.home to Wigan. A reminder that draw coming up after we finish watching

:55:03. > :55:05.this game. Rugby league forum as well on BBC Sport, online. He is

:55:06. > :55:26.King for Warrington. Atkins ran it in with no concern for

:55:27. > :55:34.personal help on that occasion, just run in hard! Crosby, can't get the

:55:35. > :55:40.arms free. Tackle five. One play to go in this set. Patton measures it

:55:41. > :55:48.towards the corner. Just making hand very concerned. He has to get out,

:55:49. > :55:52.he has got out of there. Measured response and measured finish that

:55:53. > :55:55.Tony Smith was asking for at half-time. That's how you build

:55:56. > :56:06.pressure on teams. Hanbury did exceptionally well. He's still made

:56:07. > :56:14.another five yards with those on his shoulders, wearing them like a

:56:15. > :56:20.necklace! Quick, play the ball. Very quick... A chance for the youngster

:56:21. > :56:25.Danny Walker! Walker has got support, Patrick Ah Van, great

:56:26. > :56:30.tackle from Lineham but Ah Van is over, touchdown. The referee wants

:56:31. > :56:34.another look. We all want another look! Great build-up there, the

:56:35. > :56:39.speed of the play that started it all off but how has it finished?

:56:40. > :56:54.Let's find out for certain from the video referee. We are looking at the

:56:55. > :57:01.grounding... He's fine, still up, still up, and that's down. Can I see

:57:02. > :57:23.that at full speed, please? Full speed. OK. Full speed. He doesn't

:57:24. > :57:27.lose the ball. That's a try. Patrick Ah Van's try with a kick to come and

:57:28. > :57:36.need the sticks has made this a bill that again. Cup tied back in the

:57:37. > :57:41.balance. Take a bow in Danny Walker, absolutely. He's been like a pocket

:57:42. > :57:46.rocket in this game. Just exhilarated through. What composure

:57:47. > :57:50.from the young man. Patrick Ah Van, Ratchford trying to buy time,

:57:51. > :57:56.executed to perfection. Great finish from Ah Van. I can't think of any

:57:57. > :58:05.similarity to Usain Bolt other than the speed. He flew out of the traps!

:58:06. > :58:09.He kept going, he had his shirt dragged, he had everything

:58:10. > :58:13.happening. Ah Van got to him in the end and found the right path. He's

:58:14. > :58:19.changed the game, hasn't he? He's a dangerous throughout. He's going to

:58:20. > :58:29.have identity issues at the end of the game, you said he looks like

:58:30. > :58:33.Usain Bolt. It is all square, 20-20. Now not just whisper it, say at a

:58:34. > :58:40.little louder. Golden points might be the way to separate these two

:58:41. > :58:45.sides. Keeps his legs pumping, off he goes. Composed at the end with

:58:46. > :59:00.the past. It changes the ball over in his hand. Go on, Dennis! 15

:59:01. > :59:04.minutes to play. There's a nervous energy that is buzzing around the

:59:05. > :59:09.Halliwell Jones Stadium at the moment. Warrington fans would have

:59:10. > :59:13.come here today with high expectations and a level of

:59:14. > :59:18.confidence tipping on the side of, we are going to win this. Just at

:59:19. > :59:25.the moment, nobody knows who is going to win best. Widnes are

:59:26. > :59:39.fighting and fighting hard. Stolen. Penalty. Anxiety levels raise a

:59:40. > :59:45.little for Warrington. Hang on... Chris Hill against eight of them. So

:59:46. > :00:04.his mates turn up. Jack Hughes wants to get involved. REFEREE: Walk away,

:00:05. > :00:07.please. Walk away, please. With 15 minutes to go, we do know that

:00:08. > :00:13.Widnes have got a lot of youngsters out there who are going to be high

:00:14. > :00:17.on adrenaline and energy. It's very important for Rhys Hanbury and John

:00:18. > :00:21.Mellor, the experienced playmakers, to really get to grips with the team

:00:22. > :00:27.and say, we are in this team, we've got to complete and play the game at

:00:28. > :00:32.the right end of the field. A cheeky little nudge... The 17-year-old

:00:33. > :00:37.isn't going to take that. Well done, fella. He's got a bit of attitude

:00:38. > :00:42.about him, hasn't he? The veteran England prop forward cheeks the

:00:43. > :00:47.17-year-old and the 17-year-old ain't taking it.

:00:48. > :00:59.I don't care who you are. A big call here for the referee, yellow card or

:01:00. > :01:07.just leave it? Hill and men are being called together. -- Hill and

:01:08. > :01:15.Mellor. The penalty has gone against you, you got to release the ball. He

:01:16. > :01:23.came at me! Both sides, maintain your composure. Chris, that's it. I

:01:24. > :01:32.don't want to have James Chapelhow here as well. No problem, sir.

:01:33. > :01:37.That's great. Look at that. Chapelhow gets involved. I dig it

:01:38. > :01:43.was more shock for Hill that he stayed up for him. Chapelhow was

:01:44. > :01:48.only 21 but his little mate was in peril so he got involved. I think we

:01:49. > :01:51.might be seeing more of him down the years, Danny Walker. We might see

:01:52. > :02:01.more of him in this game, the way he's going. There's some anxious

:02:02. > :02:06.faces on the cut line now because it is too tight the call. 14 minutes to

:02:07. > :02:30.go. Young Danny Walker is in there

:02:31. > :02:32.again, a big gap suddenly opened up. A great read by Atkins. Great

:02:33. > :02:49.tackle, Atkins absolutely needed. Walkers in there, make the tackle,

:02:50. > :02:53.great kick, great follow-up, the 17-year-old is having the day of his

:02:54. > :02:59.life on the Challenge Cup stage. He's having the last five minutes of

:03:00. > :03:03.life, anyway? ! We do talk about Joe Mellor and Rhys Hanbury being

:03:04. > :03:07.experienced, it was Walker there. He took the ball at the line, squeezed

:03:08. > :03:12.it perfectly executed kick in behind the goal, and another set of six

:03:13. > :03:20.here. Don't be surprised if they tee up for our drop goal at some stage.

:03:21. > :03:30.Dropped goal is a slap her, no room for flapping in this game. -- a

:03:31. > :03:40.dropped goal is a flapper. Walker only made his debut against Leigh at

:03:41. > :03:43.the 1st of April. Widnes have knocked on and Warrington have a

:03:44. > :03:46.moment to celebrate. They need to dig deep again, get their resolve

:03:47. > :03:56.back with a possession that they will get here. Tactically, it's been

:03:57. > :04:01.right for Widnes, and it's right here at again. Juggled on the floor

:04:02. > :04:11.but it's caused problems. You have got to take the risk reward thing

:04:12. > :04:17.that Widnes have done today. How could that change around? 62%

:04:18. > :04:25.possession. Eamon O'Carroll is going off because the referee has said he

:04:26. > :04:30.needs to get the bleeding sorted out. I think it's the third time in

:04:31. > :04:34.the game. Get back on the field! Card, boss, referee said I've got to

:04:35. > :04:44.come. Where is this cup tie going, 12 and

:04:45. > :04:48.a half minutes to go? Writes to the very end, that's where it's going.

:04:49. > :05:06.-- right to the very end. Warrington have gone back to the

:05:07. > :05:22.well. And they are coming up trumps at the moment.

:05:23. > :05:33.That close with so many around him. But he's got a penalty. Do you put

:05:34. > :05:37.that down too clever play by Ratchford, spotting the players? I

:05:38. > :05:40.think it was more the power of Ryan Atkins, got the quick play of the

:05:41. > :05:45.ball and they couldn't get back onside.

:05:46. > :05:53.Still 11 and a half minutes to go so plenty of time in the game for three

:05:54. > :05:59.or four more tries. Kevin O'Brien looking for a hat-trick, and he's

:06:00. > :06:05.got it! Oh, it's not! The referee said play on and he's going back to

:06:06. > :06:13.it. If you put it down, Kevin Brown will have scored a hat-trick right

:06:14. > :06:26.in front of the Widnes fans. But has he put it down? The video referee?

:06:27. > :06:33.OK, right, we've got grounded with no try on field. So it's if the ball

:06:34. > :06:41.comes away from Brown's hand. You can't see anything from this angle.

:06:42. > :06:47.Can we joke that back? Another angle might be better. The ball is in

:06:48. > :06:50.Brown's hand. No separation at present. Still no separation. The

:06:51. > :06:59.hand is on the ball with the fingers, and it keeps going down.

:07:00. > :07:04.His fingers never come off the ball. Can we have another view on that

:07:05. > :07:09.one? If you have one? At this point I'm giving a try because the fingers

:07:10. > :07:12.do not come off the ball. That doesn't show me anything. Can we go

:07:13. > :07:21.back to the angle I had before, please? And slow again. Slowed down,

:07:22. > :07:26.the hand is on the ball, the top of the ball. OK. The fingers are still

:07:27. > :07:37.in contact. Go back to the other one? And slow it down again. The

:07:38. > :07:41.hand is still on the ball. The fingers must stay on the ball. Slow

:07:42. > :07:54.this down, they're still on the, still on, still on, that is a try.

:07:55. > :08:03.The forensic investigation comes through for the attack. Kevin Brown

:08:04. > :08:09.with a hat-trick. And Widnes will think, it has to be him, didn't him?

:08:10. > :08:14.It had to be him who might just have broken the hearts of his former

:08:15. > :08:21.club. A third try in the afternoon it is Warrington back into the lead

:08:22. > :08:24.and a crucial time in the game. The win Challenge Cups, you've got to

:08:25. > :08:28.have players in your team that when you know are playing well, we'll

:08:29. > :08:32.come on and produce that. Kevin Brown have done that on three

:08:33. > :08:37.occasions in this game. Absolutely superb play from the player. He's

:08:38. > :08:43.been the difference between the two teams. That's why it Warrington are

:08:44. > :08:52.going to go four all six points up with less than ten minutess today.

:08:53. > :09:00.He has pulled it wide but it is still 24-20. He limped out of the

:09:01. > :09:03.2009 final while Huddersfield play against Warrington, but is he

:09:04. > :09:08.providing a pathway here with these three tries? And his side can take a

:09:09. > :09:13.giant step towards another Wembley final this year. He's had to do a

:09:14. > :09:18.lot of work for all three tries. Shows great strength of the last

:09:19. > :09:28.one. And agility. He spotted the gap, first and for most, and gives

:09:29. > :09:33.his team the lead again. He had a hand in every one of England's

:09:34. > :09:38.second-half tries against Samoa last week, a hand or foot, anyway. And

:09:39. > :09:49.today he's scored three tries for his club side in this Challenge Cup

:09:50. > :09:54.tie. There's still nine and a half minutes to go. But when decisions go

:09:55. > :10:01.against you like that, Widnes might be thinking, it's not doing to be

:10:02. > :10:11.our day today. That's the guile of Diddley, a dummy half, bringing his

:10:12. > :10:24.experience back to the team. -- that is the guile of Kurt Gidley.

:10:25. > :10:29.Absolutely no value in a dropped goal here for Warrington, they are

:10:30. > :10:41.going to take the set to the conclusion. Her before a try.

:10:42. > :10:47.Patrick R van picks it up and he is over. The referee has blown the

:10:48. > :10:56.whistle for a knock-on and he's hurt himself as well. What a double blow

:10:57. > :11:06.that is. Warrington get their head and feedback. What an agonising

:11:07. > :11:07.moment that is for Patrick Ah Van. Fleeting glimpse of glory and then

:11:08. > :11:27.sheer pain and agony. It's an issue with his knee, his

:11:28. > :11:35.knee has just buckled. Oh! Just gone, the pain, the anguish.

:11:36. > :11:46.There's a lot of weight on those knees, a lot of muscle.

:11:47. > :11:51.With the way it's looking at the moment, it you to suggest this is

:11:52. > :11:56.not only his game, it might be the next few weeks he's sitting out. We

:11:57. > :12:02.all I hope he's OK, but looking at Denis Betts, irrespective of the

:12:03. > :12:06.result of this game, he's going to be exceptionally proud of his

:12:07. > :12:12.players, they're still in this game with nine minutes to go. A bit of

:12:13. > :12:13.Widnes fashion with them there, making a spectacle of themselves.

:12:14. > :12:33.Really? That was awful! The initial burst of paintings to

:12:34. > :12:42.have gone. -- burst of pain. He might have heard the referee's

:12:43. > :12:46.whistle as well, double exposure of pain, the knee hurts more than the

:12:47. > :12:56.fact that he was denied an 80 yard gallop downfield.

:12:57. > :13:02.In the scheme of things, it's just what Widnes don't want. They're

:13:03. > :13:05.having a cracking game here today, eight minutes to go, they want all

:13:06. > :13:09.their players healthy. If you look at next week and their week after,

:13:10. > :13:24.they got 11 or 12 people on their roster not playing.

:13:25. > :13:35.So, off he goes. We have the duty to come up with the man of the match,

:13:36. > :13:58.we will come up with something shortly.

:13:59. > :14:06.Another try will probably finish it here. For all Widnes's cuts,

:14:07. > :14:13.determination and bravery, and no shortage of class here at times.

:14:14. > :14:16.Being two scores behind would be too much with time ticking away,

:14:17. > :14:25.although they are determined not to go behind. Another knock-on, there.

:14:26. > :14:29.It is just desperation defence from Widnes, they have thrown bodies in

:14:30. > :14:33.all afternoon, made it difficult for Warrington to get any momentum.

:14:34. > :14:37.Again here we see players throwing their arms and bodies in. Whatever

:14:38. > :14:42.it takes to stop the team getting over the try line. Still seven and a

:14:43. > :14:50.half minutes to play. Still the potential for a twist. The way the

:14:51. > :14:54.plot is stacked at the moment, it looks more likely that Warrington

:14:55. > :15:00.will get another try. But if witnessed survive this set, who

:15:01. > :15:12.knows? -- get Widnes survive this set, who knows? Russell! App

:15:13. > :15:17.absolute determination but not absolutely certain that he's scored.

:15:18. > :15:24.He thinks he has. But we have a look again, so again, we'll hear from the

:15:25. > :15:28.video referee. OK, we're going to have a try on for you, we're looking

:15:29. > :15:34.to make sure it stays on the field of play and ground the ball. So we

:15:35. > :15:41.can have a look to make sure. But his feet are in the field of play,

:15:42. > :15:44.slowdown would be better. Drop that backs, take it back slightly. OK, I

:15:45. > :16:10.happy that that is a try. This is the matchwinner. This is the

:16:11. > :16:16.moment that will be greeted with relief by the Warrington fans.

:16:17. > :16:20.Because they know now, as Matty Russell scores the try that takes

:16:21. > :16:27.him to 100 points in his Warrington career, it's also a try that takes

:16:28. > :16:32.his side into the draw for the quarterfinals of the Challenge Cup.

:16:33. > :16:38.Yes, he's an absolute genius at scoring in tight positions, Matty

:16:39. > :16:43.Russell. We'll see, the error coming from Widnes to give them the

:16:44. > :16:49.opportunity. Kevin Brown again teasing the defence, lovely off-load

:16:50. > :16:52.from Jack Hughes and there is no better winger in the com edition

:16:53. > :17:00.that finishes in tight spaces. Terrific finish, great from Hughes

:17:01. > :17:06.and from Russell. Side steps on the inside, super play from Matty

:17:07. > :17:14.Russell. Fifth of this campaign. 25th in all since he signed for

:17:15. > :17:21.Warrington three years ago now. He had a spell in Australia with the

:17:22. > :17:28.Gold Coast Titans. A Scottish international, who was born in

:17:29. > :17:33.Scotland! Stefan Ratchford, and in which international who was born in

:17:34. > :17:35.Wigan. It's drifted wide. -- he was an English international. Widnes

:17:36. > :17:59.have to score twice. High and hanging. They have got it

:18:00. > :18:22.back. Manuokafoa wants it for Widnes.

:18:23. > :18:38.It's gone to ground, Ben Westwood, lumbers forward, safely collect it.

:18:39. > :18:50.That was a last chance for Widnes. You would feel so.

:18:51. > :18:59.Dummy half will tell around. The big players have showed up today,

:19:00. > :19:04.Russell, Ratchford has been great as well.

:19:05. > :19:14.One of play to go. And look at that big gap, look at that huge gap.

:19:15. > :19:21.Chris Hill will not score and easier try. There was a moment of disbelief

:19:22. > :19:26.there. The referee must have blown the whistle. I don't even think that

:19:27. > :19:31.Hill can believe it was over until he touched it down, and the try was

:19:32. > :19:36.given. And Widnes know it's game over now. I think it was the

:19:37. > :19:41.disguise, and Kurt Gidley has been terrific in his second stint when he

:19:42. > :19:56.came on. You will see the error from the Widnes Vikings, their last

:19:57. > :20:01.chance to get back into it. And then Kurt Gidley just teased the markers

:20:02. > :20:06.and that is the easiest try that Chris Hill will ever score in his

:20:07. > :20:14.career. The big grin on his face, a big week for him, he was on England

:20:15. > :20:27.duty as well last week. The second of the season.

:20:28. > :20:48.34 points to 20. Warrington have won it. Still time to go but Warrington

:20:49. > :20:55.have won it. Stoke Mandeville the match, who have you decided on? --

:20:56. > :20:58.so, man of the match? To score a hat-trick is a fantastic feat and

:20:59. > :21:01.Kevin Brown has been the difference between these two teams. If you look

:21:02. > :21:08.at the scoreboard, his three tries and his incision at the right time

:21:09. > :21:14.and his decision-making has been first class. He disagrees but we did

:21:15. > :21:19.discuss it. We did. It's about moment of magic. If you put three

:21:20. > :21:24.moments like that on the board, you put your team in a winning position.

:21:25. > :21:39.So man of the match, Kevin Brown. Don't forget, the draw coming up as

:21:40. > :21:59.soon as we finished here. It will be online, the draw, BBC

:22:00. > :22:05.online. So get your laptop ready, your tablet, your phone. Your smart

:22:06. > :22:10.TV, whatever it is. BBC online for the draw. We'll be streaming it. 90

:22:11. > :22:29.seconds to go. Job done. They've just announced the man of

:22:30. > :22:32.the match, and again, an extra big cheer because of who it is and who

:22:33. > :23:03.they are playing against, and who he used to play for.

:23:04. > :23:23.Yeah, I think Manuokafoa has got a responsibility there to hold onto

:23:24. > :23:27.that ball. Yes, Ashton Sims hands him that. You've got full hotspots

:23:28. > :23:32.ability to make sure you get control. They probably come up with

:23:33. > :23:35.a couple of errors to many in the wrong areas of the field would have

:23:36. > :23:38.given Warrington the territory and the right field position. So they

:23:39. > :23:52.can take advantage. So, the last couple of plays of this

:23:53. > :23:58.game. Warrington safely into the draw for the quarterfinals. But what

:23:59. > :24:03.a battle Widnes have made for them today. Terrific effort from the

:24:04. > :24:09.players in black-and-white, youngsters thrown in there to patch

:24:10. > :24:14.up the gaps, left by injured seniors. They have pulled their

:24:15. > :24:19.weight, they have pushed Warrington right the way to the finish. The

:24:20. > :24:23.individual brilliance of Kevin Brown, the coolness and calmness of

:24:24. > :24:30.Kevin Brown, the difference ultimately. But a great cup tie.

:24:31. > :24:35.Warrington when it 34 points to 20. But Widnes will take wonderful heart

:24:36. > :24:39.from this, into the rest of their season. They are not going to be

:24:40. > :24:43.going to Wembley this year. They're still bottom of the Super League

:24:44. > :24:47.table, but they've all feel they can begin to climb now. On the back of

:24:48. > :24:53.what has been a wholehearted, wonderfully committed performance.

:24:54. > :24:59.But it's Warrington who are the winners. It is Kevin Brown who is

:25:00. > :25:04.the man of the match. And he's now speaking with Damien.

:25:05. > :25:07.He's just picking up the bubbly, congratulations, they gave you a

:25:08. > :25:13.real scare. They did, we expected it, they always raise the game

:25:14. > :25:17.because of the Derby. I've been on the other rent of a few. It was

:25:18. > :25:23.written that you'd come up with a big performance and get a hat-trick

:25:24. > :25:28.against your old crew? I'm not sure, it was a funny reception. They gave

:25:29. > :25:33.you stick all afternoon here. I'm not sure what they were saying but I

:25:34. > :25:36.don't think they like me any more. Tell me about the third try, you had

:25:37. > :25:42.no business dotting that one down. No, they were coming from

:25:43. > :25:46.everywhere, and I just saw the line, I just thought, long arms, get it

:25:47. > :25:50.down. Did they surprise you? They've been struggling in Super League all

:25:51. > :25:53.season. They didn't surprise us, Challenge Cup is a different

:25:54. > :25:57.competition and we expected a tough game. We probably didn't show enough

:25:58. > :26:04.respect with the ball early on, we coughed up a lot of ball, they are a

:26:05. > :26:07.good side and they can attack. But we are through and that's all we

:26:08. > :26:13.wanted. Congratulation, Kevin, Kevin Smith is with us as well -- Tony

:26:14. > :26:20.Smith is with us. That was a tough old game. It was, I will derby

:26:21. > :26:24.match. And that's what we expected. All credit to Widnes, they had a

:26:25. > :26:29.real good go today. It was a bit of nothing to lose attitude and they

:26:30. > :26:32.just kept throwing stuff at us. Particularly off-loads. I thought

:26:33. > :26:36.that really hurt us today. I thought our defence really good except for

:26:37. > :26:42.stopping the off-loads. And they really took advantage of that. But

:26:43. > :26:47.luckily my boys hung in there and had enough to come home with.

:26:48. > :26:52.Congratulations, well done, Terry. Kurt Gidley is with us as well. You

:26:53. > :26:57.are through but they gave us a real scare. But that's what you expect,

:26:58. > :27:01.that is what people expect from their own team and we're expecting a

:27:02. > :27:04.tough game. I thought we made it hard for ourselves at certain

:27:05. > :27:07.points, our last place could have been better, building pressure at

:27:08. > :27:11.the end of the set could have been better. For some of the guys they've

:27:12. > :27:17.got out at the moment, they showed plenty of spirit and worked hard.

:27:18. > :27:20.It's a bit of relief in the end, we came up with some things towards a

:27:21. > :27:27.big weekend next week. Congratulations.

:27:28. > :27:30.Let's have a look at the results or possibly a latest from Leeds because

:27:31. > :27:34.they kicked off later than us. I think we can come to be say that

:27:35. > :27:42.Leeds Rhinos are going to go through there. Wigan Warriors also through.

:27:43. > :27:48.Quickly, that was a heck of a match, wasn't it? Yes, great game, Widnes

:27:49. > :27:52.showed loads of spirit. People out of position and a lot of young lads

:27:53. > :27:59.who did a great job for themselves. Danny Walker on the bench was

:28:00. > :28:06.exceptional for Warrington. Widnes. Impressed? Great contest but more

:28:07. > :28:12.quality with Warrington. At the end, it showed that difference. We will

:28:13. > :28:17.have the draw for you on the rugby league form, that is going to be on

:28:18. > :28:21.the BBC sport website. We will also have more reaction from this game

:28:22. > :28:26.and it has been quite a game. The scoreline a little bit harsh on

:28:27. > :28:30.Widnes. It's been a heck of a game here. Do join us that quarterfinal

:28:31. > :28:34.draw. Who do you think, will everybody be wanting further stone?

:28:35. > :28:41.They won't be wanting Warrington, that's for sure. That's the draw you

:28:42. > :28:48.want, but you want to be at home for the quarterfinal? Yes, home, and you

:28:49. > :28:53.want to avoid Castleford on yesterday's performance. It's too

:28:54. > :28:56.late for us! We will see you on the BBC sport website, join us over

:28:57. > :29:00.there for the draw for the quarterfinals. We've had a cracking

:29:01. > :29:03.weekend of rugby league here. Stay with us for the quarterfinal draw.

:29:04. > :29:05.It's
