:00:43. > :00:50.Hello and welcome to the England dressing room, it has been 44 yours
:00:51. > :00:53.since England and Great Britain one a major competition, but beginning
:00:54. > :01:02.the four Nations against New Zealand, hopes are high. Australia
:01:03. > :01:05.and Scotland also make up the teams but the excitement is around
:01:06. > :01:10.England, with the new manager Wayne Bennett and because this man is
:01:11. > :01:38.back. And sewers is international rugby league under BBC. -- so is.
:01:39. > :01:52.It is the four Nations, on the BBC, new era for England when the captain
:01:53. > :02:00.Sam Burgos. And all under the watchful eye of the new head coach
:02:01. > :02:07.Australian Wayne Bennett. That has ruffled some feathers. Plenty to
:02:08. > :02:13.discuss. New Zealand, England's first opponents. And even although
:02:14. > :02:19.England defeated them in this series last year, it always seems as though
:02:20. > :02:25.you still have a hangover for England from the semifinal defeat in
:02:26. > :02:30.2013. It is a fresh start, and a fresh competition. It is the four
:02:31. > :02:38.Nations. Everybody cleanly job in the group stages. And then the top
:02:39. > :02:44.two, at the end of the three weeks meet in the final at Anfield. This
:02:45. > :02:51.is the trophy that they are going to be playing for. And alongside me,
:02:52. > :02:59.the former New Zealand international Robbie Hunter, and Kevin Sinfield.
:03:00. > :03:06.Even although this is a great competition at this stage, does
:03:07. > :03:10.every game feel like a knockout? I think today is important, with home
:03:11. > :03:14.advantage at Huddersfield we just want them to come out and perform. I
:03:15. > :03:19.know that they are really looking forward to coming here and playing
:03:20. > :03:24.well. Is that because when England looked at the next two fixtures,
:03:25. > :03:29.expected to beat Scotland and in Australia. I know you are expected
:03:30. > :03:39.to win every game but you do not want to be going into that meeting,
:03:40. > :03:49.-- needing a win? I do not think you do. It is not ideal. But Kiwis also
:03:50. > :03:54.want to win. With Sam back as the Captain Edward be good to go out at
:03:55. > :03:56.this packed stadium and get the win. Would you have concerns about New
:03:57. > :04:04.Zealand, after losing to England possibly today that they would not
:04:05. > :04:09.want to go to Australia, or do you think the psychology is different? I
:04:10. > :04:13.think we understand when they are students come to these four Nations
:04:14. > :04:20.competitions, they have been odds on favourites. Even although New
:04:21. > :04:25.Zealand are number one, Australia just seem to have this thing about
:04:26. > :04:29.them. The game against New Zealand two weeks ago, they looked so good.
:04:30. > :04:37.New Zealand have spent the last few weeks working on these things, but
:04:38. > :04:40.yet to put together 30 minutes, as opposed to 80 minutes. You said New
:04:41. > :04:50.Zealand are number one. That could go. Australia could replace them.
:04:51. > :04:56.Would that be a bigger blow? What matters more? Winning every game.
:04:57. > :05:07.The world ranking, that is just statistics. But this ties ino
:05:08. > :05:12.emotion, it is preparation for the scheme and getting off to the
:05:13. > :05:16.correct start. The first deem was last night. We are going to show you
:05:17. > :05:23.some highlights of that. And later we will speak to Sam Burgess and
:05:24. > :05:33.Wayne Bennett. This is the England team that is going to be starting.
:05:34. > :05:44.That is a massive forward pack. Editors. It is huge. We are known
:05:45. > :05:50.for the performances of the pack, and his last performance as an
:05:51. > :05:55.England international in 2013, arguably the best in the world. It
:05:56. > :06:00.is good to have him back. And when you looked at some of the new faces,
:06:01. > :06:10.obviously Sam Burgess coming back, but Jonny Lomax a cap against the
:06:11. > :06:18.French, got and Luke Gale. Some excitement. Exactly. I am delighted
:06:19. > :06:28.to see Jonny Lomax. He has got the nod. Some magnificent with Saints.
:06:29. > :06:33.Form and Luke Gale has been outstanding with Castleford. Just
:06:34. > :06:40.got better and better. I look forward to seeing them today. We
:06:41. > :06:49.will look ahead to the New Zealand team shortly. Sam Burgess, doing
:06:50. > :06:59.some stretches, what is the technical term for that? Just band!
:07:00. > :07:01.And while he is doing that we can speak to Wayne Bennett. You have
:07:02. > :07:10.just had a couple of weeks with the players, what has been the focus?
:07:11. > :07:17.Just to get them training well. And the game, the competition. Just do
:07:18. > :07:20.have some belief. What has Luke Gale done, to have pushed himself ahead
:07:21. > :07:30.of Williams? It is a specialist position. And Jonny Lomax, at full
:07:31. > :07:35.back? What was the thinking? I just thought that he did a couple of
:07:36. > :07:45.things that I like. What is going to be key? Executing well. And with a
:07:46. > :07:50.view to getting to the final, how much pressure on you to win this
:07:51. > :07:54.game, get off to the winning start? I do not feel the pressure, the
:07:55. > :08:00.pressure is just for us to play well. Were obviously excited to see
:08:01. > :08:05.Sam Burgess back, you have made him the captain, what leadership can he
:08:06. > :08:13.bring? Certainly from the front, going to be a good captain. Huge
:08:14. > :08:20.pack for us. They have a big one. How important? Whoever wins that
:08:21. > :08:27.wins the game. You have had that personal attack, some of us waded
:08:28. > :08:33.in. I have seen nothing, heard nothing. Some added space facing
:08:34. > :08:38.Australia. Do you think they are worried about it taking charge of
:08:39. > :08:52.England? I have no idea. Good luck today. We will talk more about the
:08:53. > :08:54.Australian comments later, but my sense is Tanya may need to go to
:08:55. > :09:02.every interview with about 30 questions. That was almost awkward.
:09:03. > :09:08.Just such a cool character. He has been at the forefront of years. The
:09:09. > :09:18.media does not manage him, he manages the media. I was at a dinner
:09:19. > :09:24.this week, he's so cool. As a Kiwi, he always made me frightened. We
:09:25. > :09:30.will get a longer interview with Dave Woods later, about the ethos,
:09:31. > :09:39.he gets nothing in these interviews and they assume that players like
:09:40. > :09:50.that? I found that amusing. Do you want to till, -- tell Tanya? She
:09:51. > :09:54.interviewed him on Tuesday as actually got the best out of them.
:09:55. > :09:57.He just wants to manage the team, and that comes across to the
:09:58. > :10:06.players. I have seen how hard that they have worked, and that is down
:10:07. > :10:13.to his magic. The eschewing coach has had a pop at him. After the game
:10:14. > :10:25.last night. If you that in greater detail. Is that part and parcel of
:10:26. > :10:33.Rugby League? It should be. It states column inches, gets us
:10:34. > :10:41.talking, I love that. Two Aussies having a go, stoke the fire! Take a
:10:42. > :10:50.look at this New Zealand team. How can the end the jinx? V have not won
:10:51. > :10:55.a competition in the UK since 2005. I looked at the opening 79 New
:10:56. > :11:05.Zealand have chosen, all of them have been outstanding over the
:11:06. > :11:13.years. The new additions have been striking, and probably, the one to
:11:14. > :11:22.watch Jason Taumalolo. Bashes people! He has got everything in his
:11:23. > :11:29.repertoire. The worrying thing from my point of view, from England
:11:30. > :11:38.viewpoint, the half backs, so much experience. Spine, so experienced.
:11:39. > :11:46.And they know each other Warriors. From plenty more build-up to come.
:11:47. > :11:50.That is a lovely fruit platter! And we will continue the build-up to
:11:51. > :11:57.England New Zealand. And we have got an interview with with Wayne
:11:58. > :12:03.Bennett, and Sam Burgess, getting the thoughts of the New Zealand
:12:04. > :12:08.camp. But we can show you what happened at the four Nations last
:12:09. > :12:21.night. The first meeting between Australia and Scotland. That took
:12:22. > :12:32.place at Hull. Flames go up. Smith and Brough lead out the sides. The
:12:33. > :12:39.no nation outside the big three has won in 12 attempts since expansion.
:12:40. > :12:44.It is an auto loan evening, at Hull. Can Scotland digging deeper, to make
:12:45. > :12:52.it what 13. They have said it is the strongest squad that Scotland have
:12:53. > :12:59.ever assembled. But it remains a team of superstars. Australia have
:13:00. > :13:13.made changes. Strong side. Five debutants. Packed full of
:13:14. > :13:32.experience. Scotland have some new faces. Not least Lewis Tierney,
:13:33. > :13:47.Grand Final winner with Wigan. And Steve MacCormack, 13th year. And we
:13:48. > :14:06.are ready to go. Smith will swing the left boot. Big hit as well!
:14:07. > :14:12.Scotland need a quick start. Just need a good kick, good chase, but
:14:13. > :14:25.Australia have signalled the intent already with some strong contact. It
:14:26. > :14:31.is a decent start defensively. Brough, kicking, will that be a
:14:32. > :14:41.tactic tonight? The four Nations, under way. I think speaking before
:14:42. > :14:46.the game, about the threat of Brough, you expect to see the back
:14:47. > :14:57.rowers for Australia target bin defensively.
:14:58. > :15:18.That will help Scotland. But kept in play. It is going to call high,
:15:19. > :15:26.aerial once again. Konck on. First wobble from Scotland. It was a great
:15:27. > :15:28.kick. It is difficult when it was between the winner under a
:15:29. > :15:38.full-back, who is going to be challenging. You do not expect that,
:15:39. > :15:41.from Brough, the captain of the side. First opportunity for
:15:42. > :15:56.Australia. McCormack says we're not here to lie
:15:57. > :16:02.down, get autographs, swap jerseys. Slicing through the gap! It has
:16:03. > :16:16.taken for under minutes, Australia have the lead. Creates the overlap.
:16:17. > :16:22.It as a. For Australia tonight. -- is a super start. This is much
:16:23. > :16:26.better for Scotland, and this is going to be the key when they do
:16:27. > :16:33.concede, what the response is going to be like. After nine minutes,
:16:34. > :16:45.Australia four to the good. But standing far. Gets the off-load
:16:46. > :17:01.away? No. And look at that. That is absolutely brilliant. Cameron Smith
:17:02. > :17:07.to Cronk, 8-0! Absolutely superb. That was Melbourne Storm all over.
:17:08. > :17:15.You think that MacCormack would have asked from his players, nothing
:17:16. > :17:22.easy. Not given away anything too easily. At the end of the day, gone
:17:23. > :17:32.set for set. Australia capitalised on the few position. And another
:17:33. > :17:46.good set. Last play, magic to unlock them. But with too many moves. This,
:17:47. > :17:48.going to run in another score. Brilliant ball movement. Going under
:17:49. > :18:00.the sticks, and the kangaroos bouncing. It was a perfect pass, and
:18:01. > :18:07.a brilliant score. It has been kick off, try, the last few minutes. An
:18:08. > :18:14.Australia seem to be in the mood to keep that going. 14 minutes. 16
:18:15. > :18:22.points. And another. Loads of room. It is going to be Cronk again.
:18:23. > :18:34.Australia tearing Scotland apart. It was Tyson on that occasion. We spoke
:18:35. > :18:41.about his size. It is just not a contest, physically. And Cronk,
:18:42. > :18:47.support and wonderful pass. It has been a poor half for Scotland. Not
:18:48. > :18:59.many positives that I can take from the Scottish state. -- side. Afters
:19:00. > :19:11.there? This is better. That is more related from Scotland. First
:19:12. > :19:21.penalty. Shift to the edge. Short side. Absolutely. Do not go through
:19:22. > :19:26.the teeth. This is the only match in the four Nations this evening,
:19:27. > :19:40.England New Zealand in the second fixture. Scotland, this is the first
:19:41. > :19:51.look at the Australian posts... Can they make it count? Lost it? He has.
:19:52. > :19:57.He was looking pleadingly. But that chance goes to nothing. It was a
:19:58. > :20:02.better small period for Scotland. Australia, just millimetres away.
:20:03. > :20:13.More desperate defending for Scotland. Back they come. This time,
:20:14. > :20:18.well read. But going to have to defend another six. And that is a
:20:19. > :20:21.lesson for Scotland what to do. It was about composure and this is
:20:22. > :20:27.going to be difficult for Scotland to defend. That was good bravery. He
:20:28. > :20:44.was going straight for that post. Drills it low. Brilliant take from
:20:45. > :20:58.Aitken. Aussie fielder on the boundary! 15 away. Woods, great
:20:59. > :21:10.stint. He has been strong. It is going to be yet another try. Walk in
:21:11. > :21:17.for Mansour. And the applause, just appreciation for Australia. We talk
:21:18. > :21:25.about the repeat set that Scotland had to do. That was brilliant skill
:21:26. > :21:30.from O'Neill. And as soon as you saw him appear, absolutely spot on,
:21:31. > :21:37.Mansour. What they would give to get themselves on the scoreboard before
:21:38. > :21:48.half-time. Absolutely. Almost misses the kick out! Just changes the main
:21:49. > :21:56.set. 26-4, 26-6. Then you would have something to hang your hat on.
:21:57. > :22:03.Unfortunately, a few of these Scotland boys looking fatigued. Just
:22:04. > :22:14.absolutely fatigued. Handled into the contact. Here we go. What a
:22:15. > :22:24.step. And they have got men on the far side. Mansour diving for the
:22:25. > :22:36.corner. Australia run in another score. Too easy. And it was Maloney,
:22:37. > :22:46.and you can see Brooks just getting back possession. One of the best in
:22:47. > :22:51.the business. Good skill. Mansour, diving finish to the left hand
:22:52. > :23:05.corner. Just so quick, Australia. Not giving you much space.
:23:06. > :23:10.Opportunity for an off-load... Just straighten up here... Can they set
:23:11. > :23:37.something up? Bobbling everywhere! Brierley. On his Scotland debut. It
:23:38. > :23:42.was always going to come from Brough. And the touchstone coming
:23:43. > :23:49.from the man who was playing championship Rugby League six months
:23:50. > :23:57.ago. What a moment. Scotland, ball in hand. And Brough, boot to ball.
:23:58. > :24:13.Much better than that. Australia able to predict. Play on! Mansour
:24:14. > :24:22.takes it on. So strong, the backfield for Australia. And that
:24:23. > :24:29.came from the poor kick from Brough. Ferguson not going to catch them.
:24:30. > :24:38.Dugan under the posts! Brilliant early scores, the second tower. It
:24:39. > :24:48.is a great try from Dugan. Looking up, heartbreak, and then shifting
:24:49. > :24:56.the point of attack. Dugan going through, good food won't to deceive
:24:57. > :25:01.the full-back. -- footwork. You cannot criticise the lack of hunger
:25:02. > :25:08.in the Scotland side. But when Australia get the head of steam up
:25:09. > :25:20.like this... It is difficult. Over halfway. Look at the power! Not
:25:21. > :25:27.going to be stopped. Yes he will! Just millimetres from the line.
:25:28. > :25:33.Penalty. He had to do that. That could have been a yellow card. How
:25:34. > :25:42.strong was Tyson? It is brave defence from Scotland. Good luck
:25:43. > :25:47.Scotland, defending here against the world champions. That is the first
:25:48. > :25:58.hurdle overcome... But that is going to make it even more difficult.
:25:59. > :26:08.Every time they get ball in hand causing all sorts of problems. Lost
:26:09. > :26:19.it! Now he has not. Scotland interfering. Again. Three in a row.
:26:20. > :26:32.Maloney... Loose one! Scotland survive. That was poor execution
:26:33. > :26:42.from Australia, Tierney was quick to get on that, Aitken and Tierney.
:26:43. > :26:47.That is the difference. That was a break, but he was on his back. Can
:26:48. > :26:59.they make that crime. Scotland can see the posts! The chance for
:27:00. > :27:08.Tierney? No! Just too many kangaroo numbers. Going to try to run it. The
:27:09. > :27:19.power play. Not sure that was the correct option. I am not sure what
:27:20. > :27:23.he was seeing down the short side, bit of science from Scotland. Brough
:27:24. > :27:31.going through the middle but could not take advantage. Probably taking
:27:32. > :27:42.the wrong option. Just giving Australia cheap possession. The
:27:43. > :27:49.danger pretty much relentless for Scotland. Tired towards the end of
:27:50. > :28:00.the first half. Legs getting weary towards the final quarter? Going up
:28:01. > :28:07.against 17 absolute beasts in the kangaroo jerseys. Some good intent
:28:08. > :28:16.from Scotland. It has been intercepted. Going all the way!
:28:17. > :28:26.Brough, going to need support. He has found some support. But nothing
:28:27. > :28:38.there! Great chase from Cronk! Surely some room for Tierney! Hurt!
:28:39. > :28:47.Just how quick are Australia, getting back. All 13 back behind the
:28:48. > :28:53.ball enough large. -- in a flash. Just exceptionally quick. We have
:28:54. > :28:57.seen him finish them so often. And it was Cronk chasing him down. Could
:28:58. > :29:06.not take advantage, Scotland. And this was the play. Just stepped on
:29:07. > :29:12.the right foot. Train to leave the defender. He has done something. Not
:29:13. > :29:23.sure what that was. That stoppage, not going in Scotland's fever. It
:29:24. > :29:30.is! A try! Kavanagh. Scotland get the second of the evening. And they
:29:31. > :29:41.deserve it. We see the intercept from Brough, not having the legs to
:29:42. > :29:46.score, Cronk chased him down, had some composure and kept the ball. He
:29:47. > :29:51.remember that from one-time Kavanagh..
:29:52. > :30:04.A bit of niggly! -- niggly. Good shot. They don't want to get too
:30:05. > :30:12.excited, Scotland. I don't think they are going to win a fight. They
:30:13. > :30:21.needed to ruffle some feathers. It is getting tasty now. It is getting
:30:22. > :30:26.spicy! We needed a bit of this from the Scots in the first half. Ruffle
:30:27. > :30:39.some feathers, disrupt the Aussies. I think it was Frizzell. He has got
:30:40. > :30:43.away with it here. Hello! He is very fortunate. Tyson Frizell could take
:30:44. > :30:59.a breather for that. This is how we saw Australia in the
:31:00. > :31:10.first half. Prepared to go kick for kick. They need to be careful they
:31:11. > :31:15.don't get carried away. That is the danger. You start to get
:31:16. > :31:23.comfortable. They do not need a second invitation. Penalty to
:31:24. > :31:27.Australia. You have to learn your lesson. Scotland didn't learn it
:31:28. > :31:36.from the first half. They were made to pay in the first half. Will they
:31:37. > :31:47.be made to pay here? They can see the posts. Australia looking for
:31:48. > :31:54.only their second score of the half in which Scotland have competed
:31:55. > :32:03.well. How solid, how watertight is the Scotland defence? He deserves
:32:04. > :32:07.that! Australia move further clear. Every time Frizzell has had the ball
:32:08. > :32:13.in his hand, he has caused Scotland all sorts of problems. Danny Brough,
:32:14. > :32:20.the Scottish captain, when asked about what he hoped from the game,
:32:21. > :32:27.he said, we will try to get a win, but let's not get embarrassed. They
:32:28. > :32:30.have done one of the two. Australia absolutely tell them apart. Michael
:32:31. > :32:39.Morgan adds another four. Scotland needs to be careful. That
:32:40. > :32:49.combination. Matt Moylan and Maloney. Michael Morgan takes
:32:50. > :32:59.advantage. The final throws of the opening match of the Four Nations.
:33:00. > :33:07.Have Australia got one more score? They can eat up that ground so
:33:08. > :33:18.quickly. Here we go! He will go to the line! Australia bring up the
:33:19. > :33:24.half-century. Ten tries to two in favour of Australia. Scotland have
:33:25. > :33:30.not been completely thumped. They have been overpowered and outscored
:33:31. > :33:38.but they have not been embarrassed. 54-12 firm Ma'u Meninga's Australia.
:33:39. > :33:43.Extremely happy with the first half. We started well. Controlled the
:33:44. > :33:49.ball, controlled field position. We made our points. Extremely pleased.
:33:50. > :33:55.Got away with a good victory. It was a bit messy at times.
:33:56. > :34:00.I'm pretty sure we can improve. They were excellent. The execution of the
:34:01. > :34:04.play was good. We challenged them at times. Maybe we should have
:34:05. > :34:06.challenged them a little bit more. Our effort and determination was
:34:07. > :34:13.good. Something to build on. It was nice
:34:14. > :34:19.to get a victory. A few things we need to sort out. Particularly our
:34:20. > :34:24.tackle to and ball control. -- tackles. A lot of those players have
:34:25. > :34:29.not played a lot of football in the last couple of months. We expect a
:34:30. > :34:36.little bit of lack of cohesion. But we expect better ball control. We
:34:37. > :34:39.got off to a good start. Credit to Scotland, they came back and got a
:34:40. > :34:43.couple of tries. It was a good finish from the boys. We probably
:34:44. > :34:50.turned a bit too much ball over, which we can't do in the next couple
:34:51. > :34:54.of games. Australia can do that to any team. We will get better as the
:34:55. > :35:02.tournament goes on. We showed a lot of spirit in the second half. We had
:35:03. > :35:11.a dig and we will get better for next week.
:35:12. > :35:15.Confirmation of the result. 54-12. Next week we bring you that
:35:16. > :35:19.double-header, England against Scotland and New Zealand against
:35:20. > :35:29.Australia. The final is on November the 20th. It takes place at Anfield.
:35:30. > :35:35.Kevin Sinfield, Robbie Hunter Paul and Jonathan Davies with me.
:35:36. > :35:42.Scotland ranked ninth in the world. His 54-12 A creditable result? Yeah,
:35:43. > :35:49.I think it probably is. The fourth nation has always found it very
:35:50. > :35:54.difficult to compete. It has always been tough for them. I suppose that
:35:55. > :36:01.is the age-old debate about what can be done to get the fourth nation,
:36:02. > :36:08.whoever it may be, to a better standard? That is a long-term
:36:09. > :36:12.project. It is. That fourth nation needs to develop that talent. They
:36:13. > :36:17.get to compete on a higher level with the big three. That then draws
:36:18. > :36:28.through where they need to get themselves. When they go back home,
:36:29. > :36:37.they should take the experience from the Four Nations and play at a
:36:38. > :36:40.higher level. Also, if the Pacific Islands are good enough, they play
:36:41. > :36:44.for Australia or New Zealand. If they make a law and say, where are
:36:45. > :36:50.you from? This is who you are going to play for. Those nations are
:36:51. > :36:53.exceptionally strong in rugby league players. If they can keep them in
:36:54. > :36:57.their respective countries, that will strengthen the competition. We
:36:58. > :37:01.talk about Wales, France and Scotland, it is always going to be a
:37:02. > :37:05.learning curve. They are so far adrift from the other three. They
:37:06. > :37:09.have to take this and learn from it. The next World Cup in England is
:37:10. > :37:14.2021. That is a longer term project than the one next year. By 2021,
:37:15. > :37:17.does there need to be more international rugby league played to
:37:18. > :37:23.get other countries to a better standard? I think so. I'm really
:37:24. > :37:26.excited about this tournament. I loved International Rugby Board.
:37:27. > :37:32.Rugby league needs to put that back on the map. You have got three
:37:33. > :37:39.fantastic teams. Three teams very close in quality. For me, the rugby
:37:40. > :37:48.league and the NRL in Australia, this is a priority. It should be a
:37:49. > :37:54.priority. The French really miss international rugby league. I think
:37:55. > :37:56.this tournament will go some way to establishing rugby internationally
:37:57. > :38:02.because the quality, hopefully, will be fantastic. Just on Scotland, I
:38:03. > :38:06.think it's important to point out that the points Australia scored
:38:07. > :38:11.were in the opening 15 minutes and the closing 15 minutes. For the
:38:12. > :38:18.middle 50 minutes, they are actually held their own. That can happen with
:38:19. > :38:20.those emerging nations. They are playing the world champions, the
:38:21. > :38:27.perceived number one team in the world, and then fitness takes over
:38:28. > :38:31.in the final 15 minutes. It is a mixture of NRL, Super League and
:38:32. > :38:37.championship players. Did you learn anything about Australia from that
:38:38. > :38:41.game? They are dangerous! We know that. They will be a threat to
:38:42. > :38:46.England. I thought Scotland did OK. I don't think they were embarrassed.
:38:47. > :38:51.They will have a shot at England next week. That would be a challenge
:38:52. > :38:59.in itself. Australia still have some special talent. International rugby
:39:00. > :39:03.is more about patience. If you watch Australia, if there is nothing on,
:39:04. > :39:11.they will kick the ball and have a repeat set. They will wait until the
:39:12. > :39:17.80th minute to win the game. I think that is where England and maybe
:39:18. > :39:23.Scotland have two score. It is like a game of chess. You have to be
:39:24. > :39:27.patient. When the operative -- opportunities come at international
:39:28. > :39:33.level, they have to take them. Let's turn our attention to the game at
:39:34. > :39:37.Huddersfield. It is a have passed to kick off between England and New
:39:38. > :39:42.Zealand. England have a new captain. Big Sam is back. I'm Sam Burgess,
:39:43. > :40:04.the new England captain. Last time I wore this shirt, it was ecstasy.
:40:05. > :40:09.Followed by the agony. It is New Zealand in the World Cup final!
:40:10. > :40:21.The boys have done me proud since I have been away.
:40:22. > :40:27.They got their revenge last year. England's first test series in eight
:40:28. > :40:35.years. Now it's time for me to make my mark once again.
:40:36. > :40:42.What a fabulous try! I'm back where I belong.
:40:43. > :40:50.Jonathan Davies, there will be so many eyes on him this afternoon?
:40:51. > :40:59.Yeah. Every interview he has done, it reverts back to rugby union. For
:41:00. > :41:07.me, he is a fantastic player. And a fantastic bloke. He brings a lot to
:41:08. > :41:10.the camp. Rob has welcomed him back in Australia and in England. He is
:41:11. > :41:15.fantastic for the game of rugby late. I'm looking forward to seeing
:41:16. > :41:21.him play. There will be warming up very shortly. -- they will be.
:41:22. > :41:29.Kevin Sinfield takes us through the England team. We start with the back
:41:30. > :41:35.three. Jonny Lomax is in ahead of Kevin Latchford. On the wings,
:41:36. > :41:42.Jermaine McGillvary back on his home ground with the big, strong Ryan
:41:43. > :41:48.Hall. A formidable record. Sarginson gets the nod ahead of Percival. That
:41:49. > :41:52.is because of his Grand Final form. Kallum Watkins, arguably the second
:41:53. > :42:00.best centre in the world. A chance to shine today. Gareth Widdop, the
:42:01. > :42:07.NFL star, alongside Luke Gale. It is important how these two perform
:42:08. > :42:12.today. A crucial partnership. The front row props, the ever dependable
:42:13. > :42:16.Chris Hill and James Graham, the star of many a year for England.
:42:17. > :42:25.Another star attraction in Josh Hodgson, close to winning an award
:42:26. > :42:31.in Australia. If he is on form today, he will be fantastic. In the
:42:32. > :42:35.back row, John Bateman and Elliott Whitehead have had fantastic seasons
:42:36. > :42:43.in the Super League and NFL. -- NRL respectively. Sam Burgess was
:42:44. > :42:46.arguably the best player in the world last time he played against
:42:47. > :42:56.New Zealand. On the bench, the younger twin brothers, Tom Burgess
:42:57. > :43:01.and George Burgess. The ever dependable Daryl Clark, outstanding
:43:02. > :43:09.dummy half, expecting to come on at some stage. He will rip the defence
:43:10. > :43:14.up. Mike Cooper keeps his place. It will have been a close call between
:43:15. > :43:18.him and Liam Farrell. I think Mike had a great game against France last
:43:19. > :43:21.week. One of the beauties of doing
:43:22. > :43:27.international rugby league is you get people are watching it who may
:43:28. > :43:30.not watch during the season. Let me take Kallum Watkins. You said he
:43:31. > :43:35.could be the second best centre in the world be hired Greg Inglis. He
:43:36. > :43:42.is a former team-mate of yours? For those casual fans, what can they
:43:43. > :43:48.expect from him? Very, very strong. Athletic. Great skill level. His
:43:49. > :43:52.feet are unbelievable. For a big man he can take defences apart. He can
:43:53. > :43:56.turn on a sixpence. He can score tries for fun. It would be great to
:43:57. > :44:04.see is combination with McGillvary today. It will be great to see
:44:05. > :44:12.Kallum Watkins run at the defence. I'm a big fan of his. He has had a
:44:13. > :44:17.quiet season with Leeds. If he's going to be a world-class operator,
:44:18. > :44:21.this is where you have to perform. I hope that he is given that platform.
:44:22. > :44:25.He has got all the ability in the world. I hope he really does take is
:44:26. > :44:30.opportunity and shows the sporting world how good he is.
:44:31. > :44:36.From the England changing room to the New Zealand team.
:44:37. > :44:41.Robbie Hunter Paul. The back strike weapons, you have the ever save
:44:42. > :44:48.Jordan Kahu flanked by Jason Nightingale and the try scoring
:44:49. > :44:55.machine Jordan Rapana. In the centre you have Solomone Kata, very
:44:56. > :45:00.powerful. As wide as he is tall. He can strike from anywhere. You also
:45:01. > :45:06.have Shaun Kenny-Dowall, he has been around a long time. He knows how to
:45:07. > :45:13.play international football. Then we have the spine of the team, Tom
:45:14. > :45:18.Leuluai, known for his time in Wigan. The pairing with Shawn
:45:19. > :45:23.Johnson with the New Zealand Warriors in the last couple of years
:45:24. > :45:28.has been great. The mercurial Shaun Johnson. The heartbreaker of all
:45:29. > :45:31.England rugby league supporters. In the front row you will start with
:45:32. > :45:35.the man in the middle leading them around the park, Issac Luke. He has
:45:36. > :45:40.had a quiet year but he is looking for a big tournament. Jesse Bromwich
:45:41. > :45:47.will be twinned with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves. The on field in
:45:48. > :45:53.force. In the back of the pack you have Kevin Proctor and Tohu Harris.
:45:54. > :45:58.They can strike from either side of the field. They will score tries if
:45:59. > :46:01.given the opportunity. At the back of the field you have Jason
:46:02. > :46:08.Taumalolo, the number one metre maker in the NRL this year. A tough
:46:09. > :46:14.player and one to watch. Off the bench you have Lewis Brown, who can
:46:15. > :46:22.score anywhere at any time. Martin Taupau, an explosive player. Keep an
:46:23. > :46:28.eye on him. He is one to watch. And we finish off the bench with these
:46:29. > :46:35.two enforcers. Manu Maroh and Adam Blair. -- Manu Maroh.
:46:36. > :46:44.Robbie, thank you. Robbie is going down pit side. Wayne Bennett is
:46:45. > :46:50.already in the stands. He is watching England start their warm up
:46:51. > :47:06.below us. Earlier this week he coddled with Dave Woods.
:47:07. > :47:14.Good to see you. How much are you looking forward to this series? I
:47:15. > :47:17.was relieved keen to come a week ago. Nothing has changed. I am
:47:18. > :47:21.pleased with the players. I've been working with them. The attitude is
:47:22. > :47:30.good. One game under the belt against the wells. I was pleased
:47:31. > :47:34.with that. Defensively they were pretty strong. They made some good
:47:35. > :47:39.decisions with the football. I left with some confidence about what we
:47:40. > :47:45.have to do going forward. The England squad, has it been a
:47:46. > :47:56.learning process? Yes, it has. There are eight in the NRL who are here
:47:57. > :48:02.with us. There is another 16 from the Super League. I've been
:48:03. > :48:09.impressed with these guys. One group play in a very competitive
:48:10. > :48:14.environment. Whereas here, the level of competitiveness among all the
:48:15. > :48:21.clubs is high. The NRL players can provide the leadership.
:48:22. > :48:26.You made Sam Burgess the captain. Whether any doubts in your mind? A
:48:27. > :48:33.little bit. I have a lot of time for James. He has been captain in
:48:34. > :48:38.Australia. Sammy is the ideal fit. He needs to be challenged more.
:48:39. > :48:42.James is getting the best of himself every weekend. On Saturday, what are
:48:43. > :48:48.the thoughts when you sit down and the English national anthem is
:48:49. > :48:54.played? I was brought with God save the Queen in country. I won't sing
:48:55. > :48:59.the anthem. It is not my anthem. We were brought with it. That was the
:49:00. > :49:03.time. I was a young boy in Australia in the 50s. When you are a
:49:04. > :49:05.professional coach, which I've been for a long time, it is the coaching
:49:06. > :49:20.that matters most of all. From an England point of view, not
:49:21. > :49:24.having won a series since 1972, what do you feel it'll do to the health
:49:25. > :49:29.of the international game if England were to triumph? Firstly, we have to
:49:30. > :49:35.get some consistency and play our best. I love the way everybody keep
:49:36. > :49:39.talking about winning the Four Nations. But it's not that easy. I
:49:40. > :49:44.don't fall into that trap. That is said by people who have probably
:49:45. > :49:48.never had the responsibility or the expectation that these players have
:49:49. > :49:53.placed on them. My job is to try to remove that as much as I can. Try to
:49:54. > :49:57.get them to play to their potential. If they can do that, we have a
:49:58. > :50:01.chance. If we don't get near that, they can dream as much as they like.
:50:02. > :50:04.Another year and nothing has happened.
:50:05. > :50:11.Wayne Bennett makes his debut in the Four Nations as head coach. He
:50:12. > :50:21.coached last week against France. He has a world-class record. You can
:50:22. > :50:26.see his record there. He has experience, he has success. Is that
:50:27. > :50:33.what you need at international level to get international players to buy
:50:34. > :50:36.into what you are trying to do? He has been here a couple of weeks and
:50:37. > :50:39.I have been really impressed with what he has done. There are a couple
:50:40. > :50:45.of things I pick-up from him already. The first is he keeps it
:50:46. > :50:49.really simple. The players Larrondo no illusions about what he expects.
:50:50. > :50:54.He makes it very enjoyable during the sessions. The lads have come off
:50:55. > :51:00.the training field with a big smile on their face. Simple philosophies
:51:01. > :51:04.but they seem to work. A 42 year coaching career. There is all this
:51:05. > :51:09.scientific stuff out there that you can tap into. I'm sure he does. Do
:51:10. > :51:16.you think you may be tapped into it away from the players but in front
:51:17. > :51:20.of the players he keeps it simple? Yeah, possibly. He alluded to it. He
:51:21. > :51:25.takes the pressure and expectation away from the players. He is happy
:51:26. > :51:30.to carry that. He does not give much away. He keeps his cards close to
:51:31. > :51:35.his chest. It is a big test for England today. A big test for Wayne.
:51:36. > :51:40.Hopefully we come through it with flying colours. Does a lot of it
:51:41. > :51:45.sound like common sense? Yes, the only trouble with common sense is it
:51:46. > :51:51.is not common enough. I do feel as a player you can't remember a lot of
:51:52. > :51:56.things that coaches tell you. A couple of key points. If you can
:51:57. > :52:02.simplify the game for these players and then they've got to play outside
:52:03. > :52:05.of that structure when the opportunity arises, he is doing his
:52:06. > :52:11.job. For me, the key thing is belief. He knows these Australian
:52:12. > :52:16.players. He knows the Kiwi players. For me, it is the mixture of the NRL
:52:17. > :52:21.players and the Super League players. The pace of the game is
:52:22. > :52:28.quicker and Australia. It is more competitive. They need to really hit
:52:29. > :52:32.their marks very quickly. And then keep up the pace. Hopefully those
:52:33. > :52:40.NRL players will have dragged the pace of the training session up.
:52:41. > :52:46.When I played in Australia took me weeks to get adjusted to the pace
:52:47. > :52:51.playing with the Australians. For me, playing with pace and tempo and
:52:52. > :52:55.patience, the calibre of player is good enough in England to win this
:52:56. > :53:04.competition. In the background the Australian coach Ma'u Malinga --
:53:05. > :53:10.Ma'u Meninga, talking about Wayne Bennett, said that is problem was
:53:11. > :53:14.that not that he wanted the England job, but that as a grown man and a
:53:15. > :53:19.professional he should be able to accept the decision once it has been
:53:20. > :53:22.made. It does annoy me that he is in the background chipping away trying
:53:23. > :53:27.to undermine my authority and my position with the Australian Rugby.
:53:28. > :53:36.There are plenty more quotes. We hope to talk to Meninga at the end
:53:37. > :53:41.of the game. -- Meninga. I am guessing that Wayne Bennett was not
:53:42. > :53:46.really care? I don't think you will bother. He said he has not seen it.
:53:47. > :53:50.I suspect he probably has. It will not be in his focus or his mind
:53:51. > :53:55.today. He will concentrate on his job. I have to say the Aussies maybe
:53:56. > :54:03.a little bit worried. I hope the case. I hope he has come out with
:54:04. > :54:09.this because he is wary of England. Let's get off to a great start.
:54:10. > :54:13.Let's scare them little bit more. On the flip side, it might be the
:54:14. > :54:21.motivation that they don't need, the Australians. If you're talking about
:54:22. > :54:26.Superstars, may be Ma'u Meninga is just above him. I don't like people
:54:27. > :54:30.bickering in public. Let's hope it is forgotten and we have some great
:54:31. > :54:34.rugby. For the moment, thank you. Let's
:54:35. > :54:38.turn our attentions to the players involved and what they are going to
:54:39. > :54:43.have to do. Robbie Hunter Paul is in the thick of it. I've got to be
:54:44. > :54:48.careful I don't get run over. When they talk about this England squad,
:54:49. > :54:53.they talk about size and power. Yes, they do have size and power. They
:54:54. > :54:59.will start with James Graham. Chris Hill, a very big man. The other
:55:00. > :55:09.power punchers, the Burgess twins, off the bench. Look at the size of
:55:10. > :55:15.these guys. False to they are not just size and power. Daryl Clark has
:55:16. > :55:20.skill and ability. Josh Hodgson, quick. Plays with his head on a
:55:21. > :55:24.swivel. Then that man in the middle, Sam Burgess, the guy who is going to
:55:25. > :55:27.lead them from the front. We love him back in rugby league. He will be
:55:28. > :55:35.looking to do a job in his first test.
:55:36. > :55:42.We have spoken a lot about the new England captain. He is in the thick
:55:43. > :55:45.of it with words to his England team-mates. Here are the words he
:55:46. > :56:03.has been saying to the woods this week.
:56:04. > :56:09.Sam, welcome back. How does it feel to be back? It's great to be back in
:56:10. > :56:14.England, especially playing rugby league on home soil. I've always
:56:15. > :56:16.enjoyed representing my country and even more so in the motherland. It's
:56:17. > :56:38.nice to be back. New coach in Wayne Bennett. What
:56:39. > :56:40.have you noticed about him? He has helped open the younger guys in the
:56:41. > :56:44.squad and given a different viewpoint firmly. He has opened my
:56:45. > :56:50.eyes too few things. He has brought a sense of belief. Everybody values
:56:51. > :56:54.him. The last time you were in the England shirt it was the other code,
:56:55. > :56:59.which did not go as well as you wanted. Have you got something to
:57:00. > :57:03.prove? Not really. I don't feel I have to prove myself to anybody. It
:57:04. > :57:08.is the wrong motivation to want to prove someone else wrong. I'm here
:57:09. > :57:14.to play well with my team-mates. And do my coach and family pride. A big
:57:15. > :57:20.NRL presents. How important is that from an English point of view? I
:57:21. > :57:25.think it helps. They play a different brand of football. The
:57:26. > :57:33.ball is thrown about a lot more. If you can combine the two, it's good.
:57:34. > :57:41.My brothers and James have added a good deal to the squad.
:57:42. > :57:45.What a try! Shaun Johnson with literally seconds
:57:46. > :57:49.to play. Your last appearance in an England rugby league shirt was the
:57:50. > :57:54.painful memory of the World Cup semifinal. How long did it take to
:57:55. > :57:57.get that out of your system? I had a lot of mixed emotions that day.
:57:58. > :58:02.Childhood dream to play at Wembley. One of the greatest test matches I
:58:03. > :58:05.have been involved in. It was a tough battle for 80 minutes.
:58:06. > :58:09.Unfortunately, we were on the losing side. Thoroughly disappointed with
:58:10. > :58:13.that. Really proud of my team. The more I reflect on it, it didn't
:58:14. > :58:19.really hurt. You have to learn from these things. As long as I have done
:58:20. > :58:23.that, move forward. What is the dream this time? The dream is to be
:58:24. > :58:27.the glorious for England and do something in rugby league team has
:58:28. > :58:30.not done for a long time. To achieve that, you have to go a day at a
:58:31. > :58:38.time. That is what it is going to take. As
:58:39. > :58:44.we look at him continue to warm up, and remember that he made his debut
:58:45. > :58:50.against New Zealand in 2007 here and scored a try, Kevin Sinfield, what
:58:51. > :58:54.are the differences between Sam Burgess now and then? He is
:58:55. > :58:58.obviously a bit more experienced. He went to the dark side for a while
:58:59. > :59:02.and he came back. It is great to have him back. It has taken him a
:59:03. > :59:06.little bit of time to settle in. It's great to have him back in this
:59:07. > :59:13.country. He is a personality. He is up their with the best of them. He
:59:14. > :59:16.is an inspiration. I don't want to put too much on his shoulders, but
:59:17. > :59:21.if he plays well we will win this test match. Is there a danger he
:59:22. > :59:27.will put too much on his own shoulders? That might be the case.
:59:28. > :59:45.And that would allow Hill, because all of the onus on Sam. It is a
:59:46. > :59:51.great opportunity. One of the best forward lines I have seen from
:59:52. > :59:55.England in some time. And if the half backs can manage the game
:59:56. > :00:06.England have got a good chance. One final thing, often sportsmen and
:00:07. > :00:17.sportswomen Seaport they think we want to hear than what they believe,
:00:18. > :00:22.but Samberg as -- Samberg as the national Sam Burgess does not feel
:00:23. > :00:30.as though he has to prove anything? As I said earlier, when he left
:00:31. > :00:40.after that game, the heartbreaking Dean, on that date was the best in
:00:41. > :00:45.the world. If you can get back to that, that would be great. We have
:00:46. > :00:51.spoken what about England. We can focus the attention back to New
:00:52. > :00:57.Zealand. This is how Robbie thinks they will play. New Zealand will be
:00:58. > :01:02.desperate to keep hold of this status as number one. It is going to
:01:03. > :01:07.start with Issac Luke. He will be in charge of moving before us are in
:01:08. > :01:19.the middle of the park. He will prove himself as a world-class
:01:20. > :01:25.player, and another man Thomas Leuluai. People know him from Wigan,
:01:26. > :01:34.and he will be coming back to Wigan at 2017. And with his partner Shaun
:01:35. > :01:41.Johnson. Going to get the cameraman all the way down. This is one of the
:01:42. > :01:46.best strike weapons. Shaun Johnson. If anybody has ever seen any of his
:01:47. > :01:51.YouTube, take a look because he can use both feet, attack the line and
:01:52. > :01:56.do things that we have never seen another Rugby League player do. This
:01:57. > :02:03.is what New Zealand can offer and bring. You do not even need to look
:02:04. > :02:10.at YouTube. We will show you some stuff just now. Practising has
:02:11. > :02:15.kicking at the moment. And responsible for one of the most
:02:16. > :02:21.heartbreaking moments when he scored that try at Wembley. Kevin, you were
:02:22. > :02:29.in the semifinal. But how can you stop him? You have just got to keep
:02:30. > :02:36.putting numbers around him, it was a heartbreaking moment, terrible to
:02:37. > :02:41.see that again. Sorry. But she is just pure class. As I am concerned
:02:42. > :02:52.about the experienced guys around him. Just going to be a big threat.
:02:53. > :03:00.What you have got to try to do, stand firm, and to try to entice you
:03:01. > :03:15.and then just skin you. Tries to break the line. But you have got to
:03:16. > :03:25.pressurise his game. Kicking big four love taking the ball up in the
:03:26. > :03:31.opposition 20 metres. But in their own area not so keen. Keep an eye on
:03:32. > :03:42.the full backs. We asked the Kiwi players to describe the squad. Big
:03:43. > :03:55.features a lot in this! Issac Luke, hooker. Jesse Bromwich, front row.
:03:56. > :04:05.It is one of the strongest I have been part skilful. Fast. Big. Big.
:04:06. > :04:17.Big. Shaun Johnson. Good on his feet. Adam Blair. Issac Luke.
:04:18. > :04:26.Damaging runner. Just have a look at Issac Luke. Jason Taumalolo. I think
:04:27. > :04:37.he has had an outstanding year. Some quality Football for club. His
:04:38. > :04:48.enthusiasm energy. Passionate about his football. Passionate about New
:04:49. > :04:58.Zealand Rugby League. Sam Burgess has come back. Should be physical.
:04:59. > :05:06.Having a field day! I am a big fan of Josh Hodgson. We will come over
:05:07. > :05:17.here, do the job and take this seriously. Here to work hard. It is
:05:18. > :05:21.going to be a quality game. David, a lot of talk about you bringing some
:05:22. > :05:27.passion back to the squad. How important is that, the culture? Yes.
:05:28. > :05:39.Remembering the past, the blood and the summit. That is pretty
:05:40. > :05:44.important, and it gets a lot of focus, the culture as well. We have
:05:45. > :05:56.had a good week of preparation and learned a lot of things from the
:05:57. > :05:58.test at Perth. Guys will be better for that under the belt.
:05:59. > :06:04.You have not had long in the job, what are some of the messages you
:06:05. > :06:10.are trying to get across? We just want to be defensively nascent
:06:11. > :06:15.strong in the medal and I think the game is going to be one in the
:06:16. > :06:22.middle, two big packs, something that is going to be a good spectacle
:06:23. > :06:28.for the people here and on tv. We have had a lot of focus about Sam
:06:29. > :06:33.Burgess coming back to Rugby League, captaining, you have got Shaun
:06:34. > :06:41.Johnson. Yes. Big part of the squad but it is about the 17 out there.
:06:42. > :06:48.And getting Sam Burgess back, it is great. Good to see him back. But it
:06:49. > :06:55.is about the 17 for us. Knowing the role, focus. And because of the
:06:56. > :07:01.competition, how much pressure to win this game? I do not know about
:07:02. > :07:06.pressure. We just try to walk on the processes, and do what we were doing
:07:07. > :07:14.before the previous game. Just making sure that we execute today.
:07:15. > :07:19.Good luck. Thank you. As we looked at the dressing room pictures, you
:07:20. > :07:26.have been in that dressing room so many times, how much are you taking
:07:27. > :07:30.him at this stage? Very little. A lot of conversation still going on
:07:31. > :07:39.at this stage, but you are in the zone. It is quite nice moment,
:07:40. > :07:47.before you go out for the kick off. Gladiator. And when New Zealand talk
:07:48. > :07:53.about passion, is this more passionate than previous New Zealand
:07:54. > :07:56.squads? They have got it back together, surprised by the lack of
:07:57. > :08:09.performance against Australia to be to go. But it is hugely important,
:08:10. > :08:12.part of the internal culture. Ready to go. England and New Zealand. The
:08:13. > :08:52.four Nations. Over the commentators. We're ready. They are as well. Final
:08:53. > :08:59.words with Gareth Widdop, but how much being heard, and understood?
:09:00. > :09:06.The stadium nearly packed to the rafters. Already been in fine voice,
:09:07. > :09:16.and it is only going to get louder and louder.
:09:17. > :09:26.The two sides taking their place in the tunnel. A lot of expectation
:09:27. > :09:28.here, New Zealand players going through the final motion. Big guys
:09:29. > :09:49.in there! John, law won't coming up against
:09:50. > :09:56.the England number 13, the retirement Sam Burgess. Chris Hill
:09:57. > :10:08.putting on a scrum hat. And Jonny Lomax, also putting on that cap.
:10:09. > :10:13.Final world for him from his coach. Only his second, got his first
:10:14. > :10:25.against France last week. The referee waiting to bring them out.
:10:26. > :10:40.Adam Blair, owing to be one of the late ones to exit, starting on the
:10:41. > :10:51.interchange today. Three Burgess boys. Sam, Tom, George. Sam leads
:10:52. > :11:00.them out. Ryan Hall as well. Jesse Bromwich leading note New Zealand.
:11:01. > :11:15.New era. Could this be a new outcome? Listen to the noise.
:11:16. > :11:33.It is a fantastic reception ahead of the game. When they deem itself was
:11:34. > :11:34.born in 1895, a mile up the road, fitting this match should take place
:11:35. > :11:43.here today. Some thunderous encounters down the
:11:44. > :11:54.yields. Ahead of the game. -- years. As we will pause for the anthems, in
:11:55. > :12:03.just a moment. Feel a few nerves around the place. That huge
:12:04. > :12:09.expectation. And look at those huge fellas in black. Not going to lie
:12:10. > :12:32.down. It should be one heck of a contest. And the New Zealand anthem.
:12:33. > :13:19.God of Nations at Thy feet, In the bonds of love we meet,
:13:20. > :13:29.Hear our voices, we entreat, God defend our free land.
:13:30. > :13:37.Guard Pacific's triple star From the shafts of strife and war,
:13:38. > :14:02.Make her praises heard afar, God defend New Zealand.
:14:03. > :14:14.And the national anthem is going to be sung by Lizzie Jones. Recently
:14:15. > :14:16.named as inspirational person of the year, for raising money for the
:14:17. > :14:24.February to God save our gracious Queen Long
:14:25. > :14:37.live our noble Queen God save the Queen, Send her victorious,
:14:38. > :15:14.Happy and glorious. the roar that greeted that has
:15:15. > :15:24.nearly lifted the roof. That headline act, Sam is back. Number
:15:25. > :15:30.13. That Captain's armband. And as far as New Zealand are concerned,
:15:31. > :15:46.some familiar names. Shaun Johnson. England heartbreaker years ago.
:15:47. > :16:01.Robert Hicks is the ref. And we will be watching out for the video ref
:16:02. > :16:11.decisions, if required. And Scotland Australia, not needing that once.
:16:12. > :17:25.That is to be encouraged. Going to hesitate now, for the Haka.
:17:26. > :17:42.Don't you love this time of year! Leaves turning orange. And the Haka
:17:43. > :17:48.on the rugby pitch. Sarginson, at Melbourne, world-beater years ago.
:17:49. > :17:58.And that is a world-class front row. Plenty of talent at the back three.
:17:59. > :18:09.Sam, the captain. Twins on the bench.
:18:10. > :18:18.And Daryl Clark can cause some problems. As far as New Zealand are
:18:19. > :18:35.concerned, Shaun Johnson and Jesse Bromwich and the back three. Plenty
:18:36. > :18:44.of muscle and hair! Some fantastic match ups to look forward to. Not
:18:45. > :18:50.the least, out of the dummy half. A lot of the Australian commentators
:18:51. > :18:57.have been begging not Josh Hodgson. He has been outstanding. But Issac
:18:58. > :19:09.Luke, no mean competitor. Could have a massive influence. You can see
:19:10. > :19:15.that hit the NRL. In overall playing terms, Josh Hodgson has definitely
:19:16. > :19:23.shaded it. He has been outstanding for Canberra. It is a massive match
:19:24. > :19:30.up. Physically, two sets of monsters. But massive in terms of
:19:31. > :19:37.this competition as well. No winners will take a massive step towards the
:19:38. > :19:47.final. New era for England. Could this competition produce a new
:19:48. > :19:51.outcome. 1972, the last competition victory, 44 years of staring into
:19:52. > :20:02.the abyss. It is time that they stopped it from staring back. We are
:20:03. > :20:07.looking forward to this? We are. I think it is important for England,
:20:08. > :20:16.you have got to control the game, to try to control the Kiwis. And we
:20:17. > :20:23.have not really talked about Gareth Widdop, how he starts could
:20:24. > :20:28.determine the game. That kick has been collected by Jermaine
:20:29. > :20:33.McGillvary. The local boy, born not far from here, and he plays for the
:20:34. > :20:41.Huddersfield Giants. That is what England have got. I think it is
:20:42. > :20:46.controlling the tackling area, whoever gets on the front foot could
:20:47. > :20:55.control the game. And England having significant influence. Charge.
:20:56. > :21:08.Decent just inside Kiwi territory. Penalty for England. First important
:21:09. > :21:13.moment of the game. I would take this, it is important to get in
:21:14. > :21:21.front on the scoresheet. That is what they are doing. English
:21:22. > :21:27.referee, how the Kiwis I just do that. All play in the NRL. More than
:21:28. > :21:34.one referee there. But just one the focus here. That came off James
:21:35. > :21:42.Graham. Done exceptionally well at the NRL. Hopefully taking advantage
:21:43. > :21:53.of this to go two up. Interesting, intense conversations going on among
:21:54. > :22:04.Sam Burgess and Chris Hill. Gareth Widdop, England have some decent
:22:05. > :22:08.kickers. Banging them over! And would deal, SuperLeague's top
:22:09. > :22:16.goal-scorer. Just keep taking the two. England lead 2-0, three
:22:17. > :22:22.minutes. I think that is why will have got the advantage, we have got
:22:23. > :22:28.the better kicking Dean, we have talked about Shaun Johnson, not
:22:29. > :22:40.renowned for that. If we can get on the front foot with those, praying
:22:41. > :22:56.position. -- prime. And here comes James Graham. Clutch of real area
:22:57. > :23:01.performance, especially in the pack. Made their mark not just playing in
:23:02. > :23:19.Australia, but with real pedigree. John Bateman to a smack.
:23:20. > :23:30.England up to the halfway line. Five gone. Nightingale not going to take
:23:31. > :23:35.the risk. I think they will be exceptionally happy. Two points on
:23:36. > :23:46.the board, and 50 metres against the dominant Kiwi pack. Just taking the
:23:47. > :23:51.sting out the game. Lead will be interesting, going to try to slow it
:23:52. > :23:56.down or just keep things in play. They will be happy with how they
:23:57. > :24:00.have started. It is a simple structure and Dean, that Wayne
:24:01. > :24:12.Bennett goes for. Just rolling downfield. And later run, maybe. It
:24:13. > :24:20.is a penalty for New Zealand. Consistency. That is the thing for
:24:21. > :24:25.the penalty. And I think the referee probably just stamping his
:24:26. > :24:37.authority. One for each team. Just letting them know who is in charge.
:24:38. > :24:42.40 metre mark. And New Zealand, up towards the halfway line. Luke. And
:24:43. > :25:00.Jason Taumalolo, but they have been
:25:01. > :25:05.marshalled by Sam Burgess. Johnson going to the right-hand side.
:25:06. > :25:17.Proctor, going close to the England line. Quick hands from Jesse
:25:18. > :25:24.Bromwich. It is going to be viewed as a knock on. It was good lane
:25:25. > :25:30.speed from Sam Burgess. So the opportunity to get at Jesse
:25:31. > :25:36.Bromwich. Saw that coming. Unfortunate Sam Burgess. Telling New
:25:37. > :25:38.Zealand the back-to-back set. Dangerous times. It is difficult at
:25:39. > :26:01.Rugby League to defend. Taken the big centre out there. That
:26:02. > :26:10.would have been a collector 's item, but instead, another. The other
:26:11. > :26:21.penalty, differential penalty. Used to be ten a penny. Can't kick for
:26:22. > :26:28.goal here. Because of the waving of the ref. Johnson, for Taumalolo.
:26:29. > :26:38.Going within five metres of that England line. England waiting.
:26:39. > :26:54.Defenders Jesse Bromwich muscling his way closer. Luke, switching
:26:55. > :27:06.left. Did well there. He was targeting Luke Gale. In his face
:27:07. > :27:16.quickly. Here comes Luke. Johnson. And then it goes again. Proctor.
:27:17. > :27:28.England's defence muscling up well. Lasted five, here's six. Johnson,
:27:29. > :27:44.the measure of his kick... That was a beautiful kick. Rushing up
:27:45. > :27:47.quickly, they have got Jermaine McGillvary, and that was the
:27:48. > :27:57.pressure building. Just building pressure against the England side.
:27:58. > :28:11.Third set to defend. Hang on. Ref having a look. Whether this restart
:28:12. > :28:21.should be a drop out... It has been confirmed, England drop. It is going
:28:22. > :28:29.to be another set that England have got to defend. Jesse Bromwich.
:28:30. > :28:38.Driving in. Actually made his club debut in this country against Leeds.
:28:39. > :28:48.Hargreaves, lost the ball with the immensity of the Burgess tackle.
:28:49. > :28:49.Welcome back Sam! Big hit! That has relieved the pressure. Needed that
:28:50. > :29:18.tackle. Perfect tackle. Right underneath.
:29:19. > :29:30.England's force laying a path here. Couple of tackles to go. Looking to
:29:31. > :29:42.finish strongly. The referee says play on. Hall fumbles... England,
:29:43. > :29:49.Gareth Widdop. It is taken by Jermaine McGillvary. Knocked around
:29:50. > :29:51.all over the place. And it was a high tackle. The referee was playing
:29:52. > :30:03.advantage. That was a great kick by widow. A
:30:04. > :30:09.beautifully judged kick. He nearly got the off-load away. Great
:30:10. > :30:18.thinking by widow. He knew that was a free play. -- Widdop. Perfectly
:30:19. > :30:23.executed. Watkins just couldn't take the ball in. Superb play by Gareth
:30:24. > :30:31.Widdop. Absolutely spot on, the referee. Perfect decision. They are
:30:32. > :30:49.going for two again. I would as well. It could easily have been
:30:50. > :30:53.four. Just missed. Jesse Bromwich, the New Zealand captain, has every
:30:54. > :31:01.right to ask why and where -- wherefore. Referee just explaining
:31:02. > :31:07.to him. This is Widdop's 20th appearance. He has spent most of his
:31:08. > :31:16.life in Australia. The kick is a good one. Two out of two. England
:31:17. > :31:19.lead by 4-0 with 11 minutes gone. England have done exceptionally well
:31:20. > :31:26.to deal with the physicality of New Zealand. Sam Burgess has led from
:31:27. > :31:33.the front, as you would expect. They have matched them blow for blow. A
:31:34. > :31:36.couple of big The headlines:s to relieve the pressure. The lack of
:31:37. > :31:45.discipline from the Kiwis has given them the start. -- a couple of big
:31:46. > :31:52.hits. England have some big characters out there. Some of the
:31:53. > :32:05.lesser experienced players are in decent company.
:32:06. > :32:17.Burgess to add a little burst. Another penalty. -- Burgess had a
:32:18. > :32:20.little burst. That comes with the tempo that England are playing at.
:32:21. > :32:29.They are playing the ball exceptionally quick. The referee has
:32:30. > :32:36.no option but to give a penalty. Way of sight. A very easy decision. The
:32:37. > :32:39.third penalty that New Zealand have conceded already. Giving England a
:32:40. > :32:49.very good position. Five tackles from here. Graham getting through
:32:50. > :32:54.quite a bit of work early on. They have the Burgess brothers and Mike
:32:55. > :33:01.Cooper to come off the bench. Bateman is such a terrier. He
:33:02. > :33:12.punches above his weight. Gale to Lomax. Watkins decided not to pass.
:33:13. > :33:19.Safety first. A wasted play with one to go.
:33:20. > :33:29.A desperate act from Widdop. They were all of sight. The outside backs
:33:30. > :33:37.had overrun because the pass was so poor. I would not be happy with the
:33:38. > :33:43.last play. They are the fine details of international rugby league. A
:33:44. > :33:46.poor pass by Watkins. Relieved the pressure for a New Zealand. The
:33:47. > :33:51.can't afford to do that against a top team. -- you cannot afford to do
:33:52. > :34:10.it. Lomax with a safe pair of hands.
:34:11. > :34:16.What a good news story he has been this year. A big absence through
:34:17. > :34:22.injury. But he has come back with terrific effect for Saint St Helens.
:34:23. > :34:25.Especially in the latter half of the season. England need to keep their
:34:26. > :35:00.composure at crucial times. Hodgson will go for the touchline
:35:01. > :35:04.again. It flicked the boot of Kace. I like the balance of the England
:35:05. > :35:10.team. They have great width with the ball in hand. They looked like they
:35:11. > :35:21.have got options. New Zealand are quite prepared to go up the middle.
:35:22. > :35:26.England look the more dangerous. Hodgson is controlling the tempo of
:35:27. > :35:30.the game. Also, the variety in the kicking game. There is no pressure
:35:31. > :35:40.on Nani of the kickers because they have got three kickers. England have
:35:41. > :35:43.possession back again. They are rushing everything. Their forwards
:35:44. > :35:53.are not getting yardage. They are going flat. I think they are a
:35:54. > :35:57.little bit frustrated. They have not been able to go through the middle
:35:58. > :36:00.of the England side. The physical presence of Burgess and Graham as
:36:01. > :36:21.well. I think they are a little agitated.
:36:22. > :36:33.John Bateman will just keep going and going. Wind him up and off he
:36:34. > :36:40.goes. Widdop with a pastor Burgess. Burgess bursting on. Dealt with on
:36:41. > :36:48.that occasion by Harris. A forward pass. The touch judge would have
:36:49. > :37:00.called that. Again, just that little bit of composure. Hill just overran
:37:01. > :37:05.it. He didn't expect Hodgson did take that step to the right. They
:37:06. > :37:18.had an opportunity there. Just a couple of high end quality finishes
:37:19. > :37:34.have not been there. Here come New Zealand. Ta Ma'loula is a massive
:37:35. > :37:52.man. He is so difficult to stop. Size everywhere you look!
:37:53. > :38:05.Rapana... New Zealand have made good metres in QuickTime. Kenny-Dowall
:38:06. > :38:13.was abusing his position. McGillvary caught it and rent it back strong.
:38:14. > :38:16.Physically New Zealand started to match England. A little bit of
:38:17. > :38:39.fatigue in the England team. I don't think it will be long before
:38:40. > :38:49.we see Thomas Burgess and Sam Burgess warming up. -- George
:38:50. > :38:56.Burgess. A claim of obstruction against Rapana. James Child, the
:38:57. > :39:06.touch judge, is on. This will be very interesting. He took that ball
:39:07. > :39:12.with no problem whatsoever. That is a silly play. Rapana changed his
:39:13. > :39:17.line very quickly. If he runs straight, there is no issue. But he
:39:18. > :39:23.clearly ran laterally in front of Hall. Stopped him playing the
:39:24. > :39:29.football. It is a silly penalty. There was no need for it. Whole was
:39:30. > :39:35.never going to get to him. Again, indiscipline from the Kiwis. England
:39:36. > :39:41.can put a score on here, a great platform. Bateman will lead by
:39:42. > :39:58.example in the first instance. Burgess is capable of anything from
:39:59. > :40:08.they're. A surge, a soft handed pass. Terrific by Jermaine
:40:09. > :40:17.McGillvary. Brilliant defence as well.
:40:18. > :40:34.Sam Burgess... A couple of tackles. A lot of wrestling from Harris.
:40:35. > :40:38.Widdop out wide. He passed to Hall. There was a chance. They are
:40:39. > :40:49.creating opportunities either side, England. Last ditch defence.
:40:50. > :40:54.Watkins! Taken safely by Nightingale, who is back in the
:40:55. > :41:08.field of play. A split-second of an opportunity for Sarginson.
:41:09. > :41:12.With the possession and the position, the chances will start to
:41:13. > :41:31.come for England. It's a fairly static start from
:41:32. > :41:38.Taumalolo. The sixth tackle is next. Johnson with a deeper kick than he
:41:39. > :41:47.might have wanted. New Zealand are not clicking at this moment. Issac
:41:48. > :41:50.Luke has started to come out of dummy have a little bit more
:41:51. > :41:57.regularly. It is only a matter of time before we see some good stuff
:41:58. > :42:04.from this Kiwi side. England look organised, they look threatening.
:42:05. > :42:08.They have sadly had the ascendancy in the first 20 minutes. --
:42:09. > :42:27.certainly. England very quickly establishing
:42:28. > :42:36.position. A lovely flick from Hill. Hodgson carried it on. Widdop on the
:42:37. > :42:40.chase. It is great to be a concession of a drop out. England
:42:41. > :42:51.forced the drop out. England have to defend another set. Clever play.
:42:52. > :42:56.Let's here from Robbie Hunter Paul. What are you making of this? I am
:42:57. > :43:05.feeling a little worried. New Zealand struggling. I think it is
:43:06. > :43:09.down to a couple of things. Chris Hill and Sam Burgess, quick foot --
:43:10. > :43:18.quick footwork at the line. New Zealand are constantly on the back
:43:19. > :43:21.foot. A lot of energy being taken out of New Zealand. England probably
:43:22. > :43:24.a little bit guilty of overplaying a couple of times. Some worrying times
:43:25. > :43:41.for New Zealand right now. James Graham is labouring hard in
:43:42. > :43:51.these early stages. Midway through the first half. There was a New
:43:52. > :43:56.Zealand hand in there. It will be another set of six. Burgess...
:43:57. > :44:05.Testing the resolve of those Kiwi defenders. The tackle count starts
:44:06. > :44:10.from here. Bateman... John Bateman is so strong. How many times has he
:44:11. > :44:18.done that this year for Wigan Warriors? Not quite strong enough to
:44:19. > :44:24.get over the line. Hodgson stands and weights. Here come England. The
:44:25. > :44:35.first touch for Tom Burgess since his entry onto the field. A very
:44:36. > :44:39.solid drive. Gael put it short. -- Gael.
:44:40. > :44:53.What a pass! James Graham very nearly... Well, he seemed to roll
:44:54. > :44:59.out the arm. The referee is saying no try on the field. He was in a
:45:00. > :45:06.spot on position. Let's here from the video referee.
:45:07. > :45:13.Tackle four, no try. Coming into tackle four. I'm going to need to
:45:14. > :45:19.see whether his arm touches the ground. He takes possession cleanly.
:45:20. > :45:23.That is OK. As the ball in the right arm. That is part of the momentum of
:45:24. > :45:31.the tackle, which is short at that point. Can we get something from
:45:32. > :45:38.side on? The momentum of the tackle doesn't take over. The arm has
:45:39. > :45:47.contacted the ground well short of the goal-line. The body never made
:45:48. > :45:56.it to the goal-line. No try. It is a penalty.
:45:57. > :46:07.The fans are cheering but they will be disappointed. Double movement.
:46:08. > :46:11.That was a great opportunity. They shot over the line. The pass beat
:46:12. > :46:16.the inside defender. I thought he was clear. You have to applaud the
:46:17. > :46:20.last ditch defence of the Kiwis. They have been absolutely brilliant
:46:21. > :46:23.at that in the last ten or 15 minutes. The pressure England have
:46:24. > :46:29.had, you feel they have to get something from it. You have to say,
:46:30. > :46:36.is there a danger that for all England have dominated, it is only
:46:37. > :46:39.4-0? Yes, it is definitely a game of inches, Rugby. We have seen a couple
:46:40. > :46:47.of opportunities missed through lack of execution or misfortune. You feel
:46:48. > :46:48.that New Zealand, at some point they will explode into action with the
:46:49. > :47:22.quality they have. I couple of tackles in this set for
:47:23. > :47:31.New Zealand. Jesse Bromwich tried to put a step on. Here is the last
:47:32. > :47:39.tackle. Leuluai with a grubber kick. It had to be dealt with. McGillvary
:47:40. > :47:46.did it. That is the pressure New Zealand are trying to create. A
:47:47. > :47:50.lovely kick by Leuluai. Perfectly weighted. McGillvary just made sure
:47:51. > :47:54.it went over. We have not seen too many off-loads so far from New
:47:55. > :47:59.Zealand. That is where they become dangerous, when they get those
:48:00. > :48:08.off-loads. Shaun Johnson, Issac Luke... Also, fatigue. 25 minutes
:48:09. > :48:10.gone. England have given everything in attack. Now it is their turn to
:48:11. > :48:23.defend. Adam Blair up against his club coach
:48:24. > :48:29.today. A player with the Brisbane Broncos. Many suggesting his career
:48:30. > :48:40.was resurrected when he moved to Brisbane under the stewardship of
:48:41. > :48:47.Wayne Bennett. Cries of forward pass from being and supporters, with some
:48:48. > :48:58.justification. A couple of tackles remaining. New Zealand, with their
:48:59. > :49:04.last play in the set, does Johnson roll it into the in-goal area? Yes,
:49:05. > :49:10.he did. An element of confusion from England's defenders. I think England
:49:11. > :49:16.may get a little decision. This might have been touched by a New
:49:17. > :49:25.Zealand hand. Another wonderful kick from Shaun Johnson. As Harris got
:49:26. > :49:37.his hand to that? -- has Harris got his hand to that? Good spot,
:49:38. > :49:44.referee. A big call for the England side. Just relieve the pressure. New
:49:45. > :49:46.Zealand were looking strong then. A sigh of relief from the England
:49:47. > :50:02.coaches. Everything is coming through
:50:03. > :50:09.Johnson. Leuluai has not stamped his authority on the match yet. All
:50:10. > :50:13.three Burgess Brothers on the field at the moment. George being the
:50:14. > :50:23.latest to join the clan. It is Tom who knocks on. That was a brilliant
:50:24. > :50:33.hit. Taumalolo, what his hit. That is a brilliant hit. Powerful, isn't
:50:34. > :50:40.he? Got underneath the ball. Burgess perhaps not opt to speed having come
:50:41. > :50:50.off the bench. I would not fancy facing him on my own try line. He
:50:51. > :51:01.had Graham and Burgess and he carried them ten yards.
:51:02. > :51:04.I think we're going to see some off-loadss pretty quickly from New
:51:05. > :51:09.Zealand. That is where they are most dangerous. They like to play
:51:10. > :51:19.off-the-cuff. We have not seen that yet. Martin Taupau is on the field.
:51:20. > :51:23.He has got a penalty. George Burgess holding him down a little too long,
:51:24. > :51:27.the referee decided. Some consultation going on. I think Shaun
:51:28. > :51:47.Johnson will kick for touch. Tohu Harris takes it forward. Issac
:51:48. > :51:51.Luke has not had a stellar season. He started slowly. Improving as the
:51:52. > :51:56.year went on. He had an injury towards the back end. We know that
:51:57. > :52:01.in form he is devastating. He could find form in the Black of New
:52:02. > :52:11.Zealand. Tom Lawlor has had a great year. -- Taumalolo. Luke has found a
:52:12. > :52:20.number of England's defenders too keen to put him down. Leuluai lost
:52:21. > :52:27.the ball. It was an England player who came and infringed. Just a
:52:28. > :52:32.little bit lethargic from the Kiwis. We have noting that intensity from
:52:33. > :52:42.them. We know they are dangerous. Issac Luke deciding to go for the
:52:43. > :52:47.two points. They can't have much confidence in their penalty kicks.
:52:48. > :52:55.They are building the pressure. They have had three penalties. All in
:52:56. > :52:59.good areas. I think they are probably trying to find some
:53:00. > :53:13.fluency. They have not had it with the ball in hand. Trying to get the
:53:14. > :53:17.team to gel together. Jordan Kahu, another Brisbane player, another in
:53:18. > :53:24.the New Zealand ranks who has been coached, or is being coached, by
:53:25. > :53:32.Wayne Bennett. He had his break-out season last year. He has had an
:53:33. > :53:38.excellent year the season past. 15 tries in 20 games for Brisbane
:53:39. > :53:46.Broncos. Only his sixth Capita here for New Zealand. -- capped. The
:53:47. > :53:50.England crowd tried to put him off but he was not going to let that
:53:51. > :53:55.happen. New Zealand have dragged themselves back into it. New Zealand
:53:56. > :53:59.will be quite happy with that. Certainly the way the first 30
:54:00. > :54:06.minutes has gone for England. They have looked dominant. They have not
:54:07. > :54:13.been able to take advantage. New Zealand will be pretty happy just
:54:14. > :54:18.two points behind after 30 minutes. That was just too long. A penalty
:54:19. > :54:25.back for New Zealand on behalf of a line again. Not what England wanted.
:54:26. > :54:34.We talk a lot about momentum in sport. England, when they had
:54:35. > :54:39.momentum, did not score the try. Now the two points and they have kicked
:54:40. > :54:43.straight out. Nightingale was ready and he would have caught that. He
:54:44. > :54:51.didn't even have to do that. It was too long. This is a big set of six.
:54:52. > :54:59.An unforced error gives New Zealand and opportunity. We will not stop
:55:00. > :55:04.stressing today that this is a massive game in the context of the
:55:05. > :55:08.tournament. New Zealand and Australia next week. England and
:55:09. > :55:12.Australia the week after. Both these teams have to play Scotland. What
:55:13. > :55:19.happens today could have a defining element to this Four Nations. Win
:55:20. > :55:26.today and you have taken a massive strides towards the final. Kata will
:55:27. > :55:30.claim it! Solomone Kata. He claims he got there first. Robert Hicks
:55:31. > :55:35.will look for confirmation. He does not think he touched it down. We
:55:36. > :55:39.have to go to the video referee once again.
:55:40. > :55:50.Let's here from Dermot Sutton. He is onside. Solomone Kata is onside. Now
:55:51. > :55:58.go through the grounding. Nice and slow, please. Coming into the
:55:59. > :56:04.grounding. The ball still alive. Solomone Kata is in. We need to
:56:05. > :56:09.determine whether it has been grounded by England and Italy. Is
:56:10. > :56:15.there another angle? A right hand from England. That appears to have
:56:16. > :56:22.downward pressure on the ball. Can we have another angle? Nice and
:56:23. > :56:28.slow, just keep it moving. Past the point... Past the point. OK. Roll it
:56:29. > :56:38.back a couple of frames. I will get you to pose this for me. And England
:56:39. > :56:45.hand... If an England hand grounds it initially, it will be no try,
:56:46. > :56:50.goal-line drop out. What about the fingertips of Jonny
:56:51. > :56:57.Lomax? I have to say, that is brilliant play. For all the world I
:56:58. > :57:06.thought the Kiwis were in. Brilliant play by Lomax. England survive. But
:57:07. > :57:11.again they were dominating. New Zealand have worked themselves back
:57:12. > :57:14.into this. They were never far away on the scoreboard. They were
:57:15. > :57:20.distinct second best on the field. No New Zealand are getting a little
:57:21. > :57:27.bit of confidence. When they start to offload, you know they are
:57:28. > :57:31.growing in confidence. Trying to get a penalty there. It is not go to
:57:32. > :57:48.happen. They are keeping it alive. Taumalolo
:57:49. > :57:55.is a dangerous customer. Conflicted awake to Taupau. Still keeping it
:57:56. > :57:59.alive. The intent was there. The England defender is just about doing
:58:00. > :58:06.their job. Driven in by the big fellow, Taumalolo. Enough in numbers
:58:07. > :58:17.to keep them wall of Mac. The door remains shot -- shut. But for how
:58:18. > :58:23.long? Sarginson put it out of play. Another drop out underneath the
:58:24. > :58:29.sticks. Just what the kick again. It curls back in play. It is a
:58:30. > :58:35.brilliant skill, just to hit the ball on the outside of the foot, to
:58:36. > :58:43.make it bend away. It gives your attacker is an opportunity to slide
:58:44. > :58:52.in. I thought they picked the wrong side there. Johnson was on the other
:58:53. > :58:55.side. Gareth Widdop scented New Zealand's away. Leuluai with the
:58:56. > :59:03.catch. Adam Blair leading the charge back for New Zealand. Just the two
:59:04. > :59:12.points in it. They have each had a try ruled out by the video referee.
:59:13. > :59:32.Issac Luke running into the England's defenders.
:59:33. > :59:50.Diving in goes Jordan Rapana. First try, first score for New Zealand at
:59:51. > :00:02.his second Test match, 6-4 lead! New Zealand have been getting more and
:00:03. > :00:11.more confident, and it was Leuluai, then the fabulous pass and Jordan
:00:12. > :00:19.Rapana, sensational. Just watch. He comes across. The number four drawn
:00:20. > :00:25.in. Beautiful pass. Dummy run was sensational by one of the second
:00:26. > :00:34.rowers. Eye cannot see who that was. It was Proctor. And it was the speed
:00:35. > :00:44.of Shaun Johnson. Just accelerated and making the defender commit. And
:00:45. > :00:50.that is the high-end quality, the ability to deliver at crucial times
:00:51. > :00:54.as the Kiwis have done here. How do England react to that, after the
:00:55. > :01:02.domination of the opening 20 minutes? Could not quite convert?
:01:03. > :01:14.And now finding themselves behind? Nothing in this. Just two point
:01:15. > :01:23.game, at the most four. Again, to opportunities but just lost the
:01:24. > :01:32.composure. That is the conversion attempt but he has missed the
:01:33. > :01:38.target. Just to follow one, I think the important period for England as
:01:39. > :01:53.we see Johnson, with the execution and the skill... Burgess boys coming
:01:54. > :01:58.off the bench are just huge men and you want to swing momentum, but it
:01:59. > :02:05.is sometimes since England have had the ball. Just a little too much
:02:06. > :02:17.after that tackle was complete. You can see the territory and
:02:18. > :02:25.possession. Swung now. It was 58, England. That happens with these
:02:26. > :02:31.Test matches. That is the key. It is not about statistics, it is about
:02:32. > :02:33.what you do when you have got it. Johnson, tap restart for New
:02:34. > :02:55.Zealand. Well met by the Burgess clan, Tom
:02:56. > :03:06.and George! England's defenders getting into his face. Mating deal,
:03:07. > :03:08.so many spectacular tries from him in these New Zealand colours. --
:03:09. > :03:24.mating deal. Gets through. Shrugging off the
:03:25. > :03:32.attempted tackle. Five away. Go right. Johnson with that kick. High
:03:33. > :03:36.leap from Jordan Rapana. It was still juggling on. And the touch
:03:37. > :04:14.judge... England knock on! Chaos. This was crucial. Big set for
:04:15. > :04:18.England. Half to defend, be solid and aggressive. Just go in two
:04:19. > :04:37.behind. New Zealand, and Johnson. Less than ten away. Five tackles for
:04:38. > :04:51.England to survive and New Zealand to have a real go. Having something
:04:52. > :04:57.to think his next act. Proctor comes in at some speed. England defenders
:04:58. > :05:07.there in numbers. Enthusiasm, but needing more of that. Johnson,
:05:08. > :05:23.diving interception! That was taken superbly by weighted. -- Whitehead.
:05:24. > :05:28.Great line speed. What about that? Really good, just to put himself
:05:29. > :05:37.between man and ball. England drank to build some amends. It is just
:05:38. > :05:43.going to dribble out of play. And that puts New Zealand on the back
:05:44. > :05:50.foot. But just 40 seconds of the half remaining. I am not sure even
:05:51. > :05:58.if we will see the game restart. I think England got a good set there.
:05:59. > :06:02.Backs against the wall for six, seven minutes. Opportunity to get
:06:03. > :06:10.the ball back. You want to finish on your terms. A lot of talking going
:06:11. > :06:14.on. It is as if England are trying to work out how the patient be
:06:15. > :06:27.fitting together. -- they should. This is going to be the last play of
:06:28. > :06:35.the half. New Zealand looking down the blindside. That is at. It is a
:06:36. > :06:44.lot for grabs at half time. One try. Jordan Rapana. It was a flying
:06:45. > :06:47.finish. And England have had chances, but have missed several
:06:48. > :07:06.chances, so at half-time, 4-6. Did you feel your side grew into the
:07:07. > :07:13.game? I think we started off sluggish. Give away a lot of
:07:14. > :07:19.penalties but finished well. So little in this. What is going to be
:07:20. > :07:28.key? Disciplined, if we can do that then it goes a long way to winning
:07:29. > :07:34.the match. Thank you. We can take a look at the statistics after that
:07:35. > :07:42.first 40 minutes at Huddersfield. Obviously, New Zealand a couple of
:07:43. > :07:51.points up. Interestingly, if you go down to those penalties conceded,
:07:52. > :07:56.after 20 minutes and was 4-2. England had conceded five penalties
:07:57. > :08:04.at the back-end of that. Kevin and Robbie alongside me. And did England
:08:05. > :08:13.lose some composure? I notice that but it is certainly still close. It
:08:14. > :08:25.was split into two. Kiwis grown into it. As the game grew, they seemed to
:08:26. > :08:34.keep rolling balls and behind, good opportunities. Very smart. You
:08:35. > :08:38.feared for New Zealand. But from the moment you open your big bush, the
:08:39. > :08:47.other way! It was the commentator cost. I am a Kiwi. But I have got to
:08:48. > :08:57.be backing up what Kevin has said. It was a handover. Not capitalising
:08:58. > :09:04.on the dominance so marching New Zealand up, struggling with the
:09:05. > :09:11.footwork of Graham of Hill, possibly able to deal with the Burgess twins
:09:12. > :09:16.because it was more direct. But having to move laterally, not easy.
:09:17. > :09:22.Before we looked at the main points of that, when you are defending can
:09:23. > :09:31.you give us an indication of what that does to you physically and
:09:32. > :09:38.mentally? Physically, lungs bursting out the chest. It is easier to play
:09:39. > :09:42.with the ball than without it. You are focusing, concentration
:09:43. > :09:49.stretched. But physically, trying to control breathing. Get some air in!
:09:50. > :09:55.It is really difficult. At this level, it is about pressure and
:09:56. > :09:59.positioning. Towards the end of the half, New Zealand started to win
:10:00. > :10:05.that battle. And I know when you are going to looked at the New Zealand
:10:06. > :10:09.try, one of the most important parts is the momentum, to scoring this?
:10:10. > :10:21.That is correct. Kevin touched on that. New Zealand made this a
:10:22. > :10:29.cracker. Doing it on the right-hand side but also the left-hand side.
:10:30. > :10:38.Created space out wide. Gareth Widdop has to deal with Proctor,
:10:39. > :10:45.ends up three on one. Jordan Rapana has been scoring like that all
:10:46. > :10:56.season long. Athleticism. But it is the Shaun Johnson factor. It makes
:10:57. > :11:05.some of the players nervous. On the back of two kicks to the goal,
:11:06. > :11:11.Sarginson not needing to comment but when you're fatigued you can make
:11:12. > :11:15.those decisions. I thought England defended really well. You think of
:11:16. > :11:23.the opportunities that we sat, it could have been a different
:11:24. > :11:28.scoreline. But some smart play Ron Johnson. One opportunity for New
:11:29. > :11:34.Zealand. And England had chances? Yes. I think this was Gareth Widdop.
:11:35. > :11:44.It was great vision. He has had a good game so far. Callum just misses
:11:45. > :11:51.it unfortunately. That could have put us six in front. And another
:11:52. > :12:01.one. You can see Jonny Lomax. Just looking disjointed. What happens
:12:02. > :12:07.next? Stray pass. We have gone from having pressure, the stretching New
:12:08. > :12:11.Zealand, nothing kick. Making the best of that but we should be
:12:12. > :12:17.getting more. When you are in this situation, looking disjointed, whose
:12:18. > :12:31.responsibility is it to connect things up again? That was just one
:12:32. > :12:41.opportunity, we have just seen Sarginson, but that was one play we
:12:42. > :12:49.looked disjointed. Catch the other. Free play. Got the ball back. We had
:12:50. > :12:54.to throw that one. Just short. Couple of times that we went to the
:12:55. > :12:58.video referee. The James Graham one. Explain why this was not given.
:12:59. > :13:05.James Graham has got the ball, contact with the ground but his
:13:06. > :13:16.right elbow touches the ground. No try. Extends that untraced to go
:13:17. > :13:25.over, no try. He sneaks through the gap. And his ilk will takes to the
:13:26. > :13:34.ground. Turns over. Double movement. It is worth pointing out the quality
:13:35. > :13:44.of that pass. Skips three defenders. James Graham, world-class passer.
:13:45. > :13:51.And it changed for England when James Graham and Chris Hill went
:13:52. > :13:53.off, that is no comment on the Burgess brothers on but shows how
:13:54. > :14:00.difficult it is to get these interchanges correct? When we talked
:14:01. > :14:08.about the footwork, James Graham and Hill stretched the defence. When you
:14:09. > :14:18.are playing direct, it is died. And the introduction of Daryl Clark, I
:14:19. > :14:24.just thought how dynamic years. I have got to agree with that. When
:14:25. > :14:28.England were going between the 20 minutes and supplements, New Zealand
:14:29. > :14:37.starting to struggle with energy, that introduction of Daryl Clark was
:14:38. > :14:41.just potentially going to create some try scoring opportunities.
:14:42. > :14:49.England are not far away. We are talking about passes, just
:14:50. > :14:55.centimetres behind. We can take a look at Jonny Lomax. How impressed
:14:56. > :15:03.I've been with him so far? And he saved this try? I think the sign of
:15:04. > :15:13.a good full-back is when you are on your own wine. He has been fantastic
:15:14. > :15:25.year. Correct position. Saved tries, moving people into position. And
:15:26. > :15:29.this is world-class. To come up with plays like this wins you matches.
:15:30. > :15:37.4-6. We have passed up some opportunities but we have defended
:15:38. > :15:40.well. This is here for us to win. And from the New Zealand point of
:15:41. > :15:43.view, probably the ten minute stretch when we were comfortable but
:15:44. > :15:57.as Jesse Bromwich said you have got to keep the discipline. We have had
:15:58. > :16:03.one of the cameras on Sam Burgess, the new England captain. We will get
:16:04. > :16:10.the thoughts on Robbie and Kevin on how he did. Following the national
:16:11. > :16:16.anthem. Everything that Sam Burgess does, it is a battle. He does not
:16:17. > :16:20.give up. And he has got the tools to do it more exceptionally than other
:16:21. > :16:33.people. The opening 20 minutes, he was trying to impress. Big squad.
:16:34. > :16:40.That is why he was appointed captain. That is what Wayne Bennett
:16:41. > :16:49.ones. That lifts the team. And it also lifts the crowd. You need some
:16:50. > :16:54.of these big hits to get everybody going. It is a full house at
:16:55. > :16:58.Huddersfield. It should be bouncing. This is the way that he pleases
:16:59. > :17:02.Rugby League. We love him and we want to encourage him to do that. I
:17:03. > :17:10.am not saying that he should be crunching New Zealand players, but
:17:11. > :17:17.the more that he does that, the more it gets people of seats. I think the
:17:18. > :17:22.atmosphere is pretty tense. It will have seen the missed opportunities.
:17:23. > :17:27.Just wondering, is this going to be a rugby today? Take the
:17:28. > :17:32.opportunities and we will win this Test match. That tension, highlights
:17:33. > :17:38.just how important this is for both of the sides when they have still
:17:39. > :17:44.got to play Australia. This, in essence, is not fit for who is going
:17:45. > :17:54.to meet Australia in the final. Both of these would be does Julia, no
:17:55. > :18:02.problem. -- sides would beat Australia. We can go down to the
:18:03. > :18:07.touchline. This man, stood there, was expected to be on a road trip in
:18:08. > :18:14.America. What is it like to have become part of this team? It has
:18:15. > :18:19.been a roller-coaster selection. To play four games. And then coming to
:18:20. > :18:27.the setup like this, just elated and so proud to be involved. After such
:18:28. > :18:34.a crazy year. I am just so happy and I waited. What has it been like
:18:35. > :18:41.working under Wayne Bennett? He just brings that steely determination,
:18:42. > :18:46.the guys know that he wants extra effort, extra training and you need
:18:47. > :18:51.the resilience to be on this team. I think that we have seen that. I am
:18:52. > :19:02.delighted to be part of it. I am just trying to learn and grow from
:19:03. > :19:07.others. As you said, you just had four games from the end of last
:19:08. > :19:10.year, how difficult has that been? It has been an absolutely crazy
:19:11. > :19:18.year. The massive build-up to getting back and then you get clean,
:19:19. > :19:24.I thought every time the off-season sorted. But obviously that decision
:19:25. > :19:33.to make. Go to America, or come to the camp. And if I went to America
:19:34. > :19:39.it would have been what if? So I am doing whatever I can to get into the
:19:40. > :19:42.side. You made the decision to talk about the depression, the
:19:43. > :19:48.difficulties you have had, what sort of reaction have you had? I have
:19:49. > :19:53.noticed a lot of people talking about it and a lot of people are
:19:54. > :19:57.starting to open up. It is not just a silent thing that people go
:19:58. > :20:06.through. Casually, people just start to talk about this around changing
:20:07. > :20:12.rooms, Leeds Rhinos, that is the thing we are trying to broach. It is
:20:13. > :20:21.something that we need to start doing. Fingers crossed you get to
:20:22. > :20:24.put that jersey on. Good interview. We can point you in the direction of
:20:25. > :21:56.some stuff coming your way. That is next Saturday. But we can go
:21:57. > :22:01.back to the second half. We looking forward to that double-header at
:22:02. > :22:07.Coventry next week. First ever international between England and
:22:08. > :22:13.Scotland at senior level. But we have got things to sort out there
:22:14. > :22:18.first. England have got so many good things to look back on. Certainly
:22:19. > :22:27.with the ball in hand. But finding themselves behind at half-time.
:22:28. > :22:30.Witnessing Wayne Bennett talking to his players, we can only
:22:31. > :22:38.second-guess what he has said. What sort of messages do you think? I
:22:39. > :22:40.think Kevin got that spot on at half-time, defensively doing so well
:22:41. > :22:47.but we just need to take opportunities. I am just looking
:22:48. > :22:54.forward to seeing Daryl Clark come off the bench. I think he is going
:22:55. > :23:05.to abandon plans. -- have a big influence. I remember his debut, two
:23:06. > :23:15.years ago. Absolutely lightning on the field. It is intercepted. This
:23:16. > :23:19.man is going to take some stopping. Johnson has got away. Not even going
:23:20. > :23:24.to get close. Heartbreaker. English heartbreaker. He has just done
:23:25. > :23:35.something again that has caused England some misery. Enter section
:23:36. > :23:38.try. What was Wayne Bennett saying? Composure and be clinical. Got the
:23:39. > :23:45.opportunity, had numbers on the left-hand side but this man read it
:23:46. > :23:53.perfectly. 75 yards. What a blow for England. You can see that. Had the
:23:54. > :24:01.ball back. That is the past. Look at the numbers on the left-hand side.
:24:02. > :24:07.Clear. It was forced. Didn't need to throw it. Away. And if you're going
:24:08. > :24:12.to be critical, perhaps he should just have carried that a little bit
:24:13. > :24:19.more, but Lee Johnson the opportunity to sit on his heels. And
:24:20. > :24:24.when he took that, no other outcome. Four defenders chasing him at
:24:25. > :24:40.absolutely no chance with his speed. That is a blow. Box office. Absolute
:24:41. > :24:43.box office. We love to hate him! Just moments of magic, they can be
:24:44. > :24:51.quiet but you know that he is going to have some Mormons. Big players,
:24:52. > :24:55.big games. We remember him from that World Cup semifinal but also the
:24:56. > :24:58.four Nations at Wellington, Man of the Match. Brilliant. Just got it
:24:59. > :25:16.all. Does that successfully. Significant
:25:17. > :25:30.moment. Because New Zealand have a little bit of attrition. -- cushion.
:25:31. > :25:34.Two score lead. As soon as he took that, you love to hate him, when you
:25:35. > :25:39.coach against them you just know that he is going to have Mormons. He
:25:40. > :25:47.gives him that eyes, and then off he went. It is some way back in for
:25:48. > :26:07.England. Ball has been lost! Not stolen.
:26:08. > :26:21.Penalty for England. They needed that. England needed some position.
:26:22. > :26:25.Eight down. Have to score twice. Going to have to build some
:26:26. > :26:41.pressure. Good opportunity. Just what they wanted. Another one. The
:26:42. > :26:52.England band striking up at the moment. It is very full but flat,
:26:53. > :26:57.the John Smith's Stadium. You think about some of the kicks. Just
:26:58. > :27:00.building pressure and we need to see some of that from England. Take some
:27:01. > :27:22.energy out of the team. Not exactly joining the dots at the
:27:23. > :27:53.moment. Toppled. Off-loads to big bro Sam.
:27:54. > :28:04.The final play, next. Very good ball there! Kiwi hand! That is what we're
:28:05. > :28:09.talking about, the importance of building against the Kiwis, you
:28:10. > :28:16.cannot underestimate that because you have got to take the energy out
:28:17. > :28:21.of them. And Josh Hodgson has just done exactly the same. Giving his
:28:22. > :28:31.team an opportunity to build some pressure.
:28:32. > :28:42.I think it is going to be interesting to see when he brings
:28:43. > :28:46.Hill and Graham back on. As Daryl Clark could come on on the back of
:28:47. > :29:01.that. Need some in the morning for the foregoing -- need some momentum
:29:02. > :29:13.for going forward. It is a penalty. Penalty. I would definitely take
:29:14. > :29:15.two. Plenty of time left. Need to score twice. Easy to points. I agree
:29:16. > :29:26.totally. Going to take the tap. They want the six. George Burgess, a
:29:27. > :29:49.wrecking machine, as he runs it in. Gareth Widdop trying to create some
:29:50. > :30:05.space. Whitehead Wade said dummy half. -- waits at dummy half. That
:30:06. > :30:09.was very slow. Tom Burgess! Whitehead came with pace and power.
:30:10. > :30:22.The Kiwis matched him physically and put him down. Lomax brings it on.
:30:23. > :30:35.Not a lot of options for him. Whitehead allowed Wyatt! McGillvary
:30:36. > :30:43.will score! And Jermaine McGillvary, the hometown boy, is a hometown
:30:44. > :30:51.hero! Made in Huddersfield, scored in Huddersfield. England are back in
:30:52. > :30:55.the contest in Huddersfield. It was brilliant play from the whole
:30:56. > :31:00.England side. Really testing New Zealand. They got some off-loads in
:31:01. > :31:05.the play. Starting to do to New Zealand what they like to do to you.
:31:06. > :31:11.When Lomax got the opportunity to get the ball in his hand, he did.
:31:12. > :31:25.Big Sam trying to get the off-load away. Beautiful pass from Whitehead.
:31:26. > :31:31.He juggled it slightly, McGillvary. Exactly what England needed. Gale
:31:32. > :31:41.engages the defence. Whitehead with the decision to make. 32. Perfect
:31:42. > :31:47.skill. Great try. Nightingale was ball watching. Just went off it.
:31:48. > :32:02.Great decision not to take the two points! Widdop has got the accuracy.
:32:03. > :32:09.It is game on again. 12-10. Jermaine McGillvary, the man of the moment.
:32:10. > :32:13.This is the end product. Gale to Whitehead. Beautiful pass. That
:32:14. > :32:18.probably came from the repeat set that Hodgson got, killed the
:32:19. > :32:25.pressure, make New Zealand defender. When they have to defend they do not
:32:26. > :32:31.look half as good. Jermaine McGillvary's grandmother is here
:32:32. > :32:38.today. Only the third time she has watched him. He grew open with his
:32:39. > :32:43.grandmother and used to sleep four in a bed. Imagine sleeping with that
:32:44. > :32:47.monster! He was given a great upbringing. I'm sure his grandma is
:32:48. > :33:02.proud as punch, wherever she is inside the ground.
:33:03. > :33:10.England getting a bit of a roll on. The one thing I have to be critical
:33:11. > :33:14.of, the passing has not been as crisp as it should be. Some of the
:33:15. > :33:18.movement, you have to put in front of the play. They are checking their
:33:19. > :33:37.play and taking the pace out of the movement.
:33:38. > :33:44.There was a shoulder that came at Kahu from Lomax. It certainly found
:33:45. > :33:53.its mark. His ribs might be bruised a little. New Zealand have lost
:33:54. > :33:56.their shape. Gone into their shell. England have got the width in the
:33:57. > :34:04.attack. Looking dangerous again. That is what we want to see. England
:34:05. > :34:08.have been dominant in the second half. All New Zealand have had is
:34:09. > :34:18.one interception. They have to keep on going. Five tackles. The last for
:34:19. > :34:24.New Zealand. 40 metres away. They rush at Johnson. McGillvary catches
:34:25. > :34:28.it safely. He wins more penalties than anyone else. He is so difficult
:34:29. > :34:46.to put down. By the way, there is a World Cup
:34:47. > :34:54.qualifying game going on at the moment in Monza, of all places.
:34:55. > :34:58.Half-time, 14-10 for Italy against Wales. Webber wins that is
:34:59. > :35:00.guaranteed a place in the world Cup next year. Whoever loses, gets a
:35:01. > :35:20.second chance in the play-off. A clean take from Rapana. He found
:35:21. > :35:30.some space to clear as well. Superb play from Rapana. Big coal from the
:35:31. > :35:37.referee. Leuluai is going off. A massive loss for the Kiwis. It looks
:35:38. > :35:44.like a head injury. I think he got his head on the wrong side. Tommy
:35:45. > :35:50.Leuluai went down in back play and immediately said it was concussion.
:35:51. > :35:54.He got up and went back into play. He didn't want to come off. They
:35:55. > :36:04.brought him off for a concussion check. You get 15 minutes, don't
:36:05. > :36:10.you? Once he is cleared, he will be able to come back on. He will have
:36:11. > :36:15.an impact in this game, I'm sure. No surprise that Clark is on the field.
:36:16. > :36:22.But how surprised you that Hodgson is gone off? It looks like a
:36:23. > :36:29.like-for-like sales. -- swap. It is a different dynamic with Clark. He
:36:30. > :36:30.is very direct. He is probably thinking that New Zealand look
:36:31. > :36:47.slightly tired. Taken on again by Bromwich. He gets
:36:48. > :36:55.the off-load away. Proctor going no further. They are down an option in
:36:56. > :37:05.terms of kicker because Leuluai is off the field. Good play by Shaun
:37:06. > :37:09.Johnson. The ball was right around his ankles and he just scooped it
:37:10. > :37:20.off the floor. Immaculate skill. Perfect weight. Shaun Johnson is
:37:21. > :37:30.building in confidence as this game goes on. A couple of interchange is
:37:31. > :37:40.being made by England. Tom Burgess is going off. Not sure who the other
:37:41. > :37:51.player going off is. The kick is good.
:37:52. > :38:05.Sam has had every minute so far. He is taking a breather. We will see
:38:06. > :38:10.him back. It is unusual that Sam Burgess is on the field and England
:38:11. > :38:17.are losing. That was never the case in rugby union. There were always
:38:18. > :38:26.winning when he was on the field. -- they were always winning.
:38:27. > :38:37.Last play. Lewis Brown... Johnson again. Another kick. McGilvray is
:38:38. > :38:42.across! A massive hit. I think they will be looking at a possible
:38:43. > :38:50.shoulder charge. As big as that was, it might have been illegal. It is
:38:51. > :38:54.very difficult. You do everything you are capable of doing to knock
:38:55. > :39:06.him over the touchline. He has done terrifically well.
:39:07. > :39:11.We need to go back a little further. We know he has stepped on the line
:39:12. > :39:16.before he has passed. We need to make sure that everyone is onside
:39:17. > :39:23.initially. Definitely no try. We are just looking for the restart. All
:39:24. > :39:29.play onto this point. Then we need to clear a shoulder charge. Whether
:39:30. > :39:35.there is a shoulder charge from the England player. Can we have the
:39:36. > :39:40.front on angle again? I am going to see whether the Army is tucked into
:39:41. > :39:47.the body contact. No, that is just a collision. Note shoulder charge. No
:39:48. > :39:52.try. New Zealand have taken the ball into touch.
:39:53. > :39:56.Everybody has had eyes on the big screen inside the ground. They have
:39:57. > :40:01.guessed what the decision is going to be. It is no try and note
:40:02. > :40:07.shoulder charge. Well done McGillvary. Excellent. The
:40:08. > :40:12.temptation for him was to sing again on Shaun Johnson. He held himself
:40:13. > :40:16.square and deal with the danger exceptionally well. Did even
:40:17. > :40:23.remarkably better not to shoulder charge. The temptation was massive.
:40:24. > :40:33.And a readjustment from the ricochet off the kick as well. He did
:40:34. > :40:39.remarkably well. Cooper carried it strongly. What a last few years he
:40:40. > :40:54.has had, Mike Cooper. Back at Warrington next year.
:40:55. > :41:13.England on the halfway line. Widdop putted high. Gale got knocked over.
:41:14. > :41:19.They need a little bit more in the last tackle. Put it in between a
:41:20. > :41:28.winger and full-back, make them move for it. 25 minutes remaining. Two
:41:29. > :41:35.points in the game. Lots of talking points. There is a good flowed. Here
:41:36. > :41:44.comes Rapana. Lomax cannot make the tackle. McGillvary cannot either. It
:41:45. > :41:50.is a second try for Jordan Rapana! New Zealand find a way through
:41:51. > :41:54.again. And again, England just switch off at crucial times. There
:41:55. > :42:03.was nothing on there. The defence very well organised. Just watch.
:42:04. > :42:12.They switch off. Lomax has got to make that tackle. That is a very,
:42:13. > :42:18.very simple try. What New Zealand have got is absolute raw speed.
:42:19. > :42:23.Rapana has been sensational. To take that opportunity, accelerate away
:42:24. > :42:31.from Lomax, who is no slouch, three or four England defenders chasing
:42:32. > :42:35.him, the speed they have got in this team is probably the difference
:42:36. > :42:41.between these teams. The danger of the off-load. They have to close the
:42:42. > :42:46.off-load down. Do not allow him -- don't allow them to get it. When
:42:47. > :42:55.they do, they are side altogether. Lomax will be disappointed.
:42:56. > :42:56.Denis Betts sitting to the side of Wayne Bennett. Paul Scofield as
:42:57. > :43:20.well. Great minds up. -- up there. Jordan Kahu with a chance to give
:43:21. > :43:23.his side a two score lead again. Six point is the difference. England
:43:24. > :43:33.have to score twice to get anything out of the game. There is an anxious
:43:34. > :43:38.bows around the stadium. Full house. The vast majority are England fans.
:43:39. > :43:49.You can feel the frustration. Here comes Kahu. New Zealand in the box
:43:50. > :43:59.seat at the moment. He has hit the post and put it wide. And that might
:44:00. > :44:03.yet prove very, very crucial. Goal kicks will win you games and win new
:44:04. > :44:08.test matches. We spoke about a game of inches. That was literally
:44:09. > :44:15.inches. Two inches to the right and it is through the middle. There is
:44:16. > :44:25.the off-load. Great support. Very good finish by Rapana. Jesse
:44:26. > :44:33.Bromwich leading out. England with time beginning to take away. 22
:44:34. > :44:37.minutes, just over, left to play. England needing to score once and
:44:38. > :44:40.convert to get the draw. Twice to win it. New Zealand very much in the
:44:41. > :44:55.driving seat as it stands. Lewis Brown has made an impact since
:44:56. > :45:03.coming on. Such a fantastic utility player. Plays for manly these days.
:45:04. > :45:08.England get the ball back. That is an important miss kick from New
:45:09. > :45:14.Zealand. It allows England not to panic. Not to get frustrated. They
:45:15. > :45:18.are only behind by one score. They have to wait for their opportunity.
:45:19. > :45:21.They both get one. Then it is down to their execution. Just calm and
:45:22. > :45:42.composed in this period. Lomax overstepped there. Grabbed the
:45:43. > :45:50.game by the scruff of the neck now. -- they need to grab the game. Sam
:45:51. > :45:56.Burgess keeping warm on the bike. England get the penalty. Hanging on
:45:57. > :46:00.too long. Despite Kevin Proctor's protestations. This is where your
:46:01. > :46:03.preparation comes in. These type of positions. Just put a planned move
:46:04. > :46:19.on here. , Lolo and Graham coming
:46:20. > :46:36.head-to-head. Two big fellows. --, Lolo.
:46:37. > :46:53.Clark looking for the past. Doesn't want to throw the ball away. Over
:46:54. > :47:00.the top! Holsclaw is the try! Ryan Hall scores the try. How many times
:47:01. > :47:06.has he done that for England? -- Hall scores the try. 29 times in his
:47:07. > :47:14.29th appearance. You cannot stop him from that range. It is about
:47:15. > :47:19.execution, isn't it? You don't want the ball to go to anybody else in an
:47:20. > :47:28.England shirt except Ryan Hall. Lovely slick hands. It was Gale who
:47:29. > :47:36.went wide. Widdop was speculative. What a brilliant finish. Big left
:47:37. > :47:40.hand reached out. Superb from Hall. The scrambling defence of New
:47:41. > :47:46.Zealand's desperate to get there. His execution was immaculate.
:47:47. > :47:51.Superb. Widdop was brilliant. If he catches that, he is nailed. That is
:47:52. > :47:57.a brilliant finish. He is such a big, big man to try to force of the
:47:58. > :48:03.touchline. Great finish. He makes it look easy. That is so difficult to
:48:04. > :48:10.do. There are so many wingers who would not have scored that try. He
:48:11. > :48:17.leans inside away from the touchline. A big kick. Widdop has
:48:18. > :48:23.got the weight of Four Nations on his shoulders. And he has kicked it
:48:24. > :48:32.from the touchline! It is all square. 16 points apiece. We are
:48:33. > :48:38.going to be testing the edges of our seats because we have got quite a
:48:39. > :48:42.finish. You said the convergence could be crucial and that was a
:48:43. > :48:49.conversion he should have put over, Kahu for Australia. -- New Zealand.
:48:50. > :48:53.The momentum swing goes in your favour. He brings big Sam Burgess
:48:54. > :48:57.back onto the field, his captain, his leader, and a man who can drive
:48:58. > :49:04.his team home in the last 20 minutes. I think John Bateman is
:49:05. > :49:11.off. He has pushed him into the back row. Not a bad replacement in the
:49:12. > :49:17.back row, Sam Burgess. Ryan Hall has not had the best of seasons at
:49:18. > :49:21.Leeds. But boy, he can still do it when it matters. There was almost a
:49:22. > :49:25.sense of inevitability when the ball came to him that he was going to
:49:26. > :49:30.score. It remains all square. There is still a match to be won or lost
:49:31. > :49:57.here, with 18 minutes remaining. Sam Burgess... The Kiwis on their
:49:58. > :50:05.backsidess. -- backsides. Kahu took that well. Great set by England and
:50:06. > :50:18.a good finish where Kahu had to make the catch. Superb. Daryl Clark is
:50:19. > :50:28.looking menacing. Rapana is hard. -- hurt. England players straightaway
:50:29. > :50:39.saying there is a problem. What happened here? You can tell how
:50:40. > :50:45.serious it is by the reaction of the players. Straightaway they hold
:50:46. > :50:51.their hands up. Is there a problem with Hill and his connection? It is
:50:52. > :50:55.about not putting pressure to the top of the head. They call it the
:50:56. > :51:01.crusher tackle in rugby league. Whether that was the case there, I'm
:51:02. > :51:11.not so sure. I don't think it was intentional. It is very difficult.
:51:12. > :51:22.He did not have him in a hold. He fell on top. He is OK. That's the
:51:23. > :51:33.main thing. Kahu with a step. Graham lunges. Broken play. Johnson is at
:51:34. > :51:39.his most dangerous here. A posse of white shirted England players
:51:40. > :51:46.waiting to make the tackle. 17 minutes remaining. New Zealand
:51:47. > :52:03.pressing. Taken well by, Lolo. -- Taumalolo. Johnson got the kick in.
:52:04. > :52:06.McGilvray puts it dead. How good is Shaun Johnson? He Times Up on the
:52:07. > :52:12.right-hand side of the field teasing the England defenders and then he
:52:13. > :52:18.picks it off his boots again. The composer he shows just to put it
:52:19. > :52:30.down. He is a genius. They have to play it. Every kick apart from one
:52:31. > :52:36.they have to play it. They are a joy to watch. England have got to stay
:52:37. > :52:45.focused. You would pay your admission alone just to see that
:52:46. > :52:53.man. Was their offside? No. No contact. Bromwich runs it back
:52:54. > :53:04.again. A big set. The repeat sets have been in New Zealand's favour.
:53:05. > :53:14.15-10. That is a massive number. Three tackles to go. Everything goes
:53:15. > :53:26.through Johnson. Taumalolo is very powerful. That was advertised,
:53:27. > :53:32.wasn't it? The England defenders knew it was coming. That is one less
:53:33. > :53:39.play. Johnson with a drop goal. He has put it over. It is confirmed.
:53:40. > :53:44.Shaun Johnson with a one point. New Zealand now lead by 17-16. The mark
:53:45. > :53:49.of a player is the control they have got on a team. I don't think anybody
:53:50. > :53:56.thought that Shaun Johnson would take one point. He is doing this
:53:57. > :54:00.without Tommy Leuluai. When you lose that partner, there is so much
:54:01. > :54:06.pressure on you as a player. He has just stepped up and taken control.
:54:07. > :54:12.There was nothing else on. The pass was poor. Might as well take the one
:54:13. > :54:14.point. They will have the ball back and try to end up in the England 20
:54:15. > :54:53.metre area. Just over 24,000 people in here
:54:54. > :55:02.today. A sell-out crowd. England get the ball back. A long way to go. A
:55:03. > :55:11.long way to go. Again, the composer. 12 kicks today Fridjonsson. He is
:55:12. > :55:21.the only kicker. -- 12 kicks today for Johnson. Having a kicker gives
:55:22. > :55:27.you a bit of variety. This guy makes space for himself. It's always
:55:28. > :55:33.better to have the option. When he is kicking so well... Great players
:55:34. > :55:38.just have an influence on a game. If you look at the 34 players on show
:55:39. > :55:45.this afternoon, he is probably the one with the most influence on this
:55:46. > :55:53.game. With 14 minutes to go, hopefully someone will come up with
:55:54. > :55:58.a bit of magic. You wish they were not just playing each other the ones
:55:59. > :56:02.for the right to play in the final. So much quality out of there and
:56:03. > :56:11.questions left unanswered at the end of this. It's almost a knockout tie.
:56:12. > :56:17.Not quite. But almost. England very much still alive in the Four Nations
:56:18. > :56:21.if they lose, but if they win, it would make such a difference to
:56:22. > :56:36.their campaign. It does to New Zealand as well, of course.
:56:37. > :56:43.They timed it to perfection. You cannot hit came in the air. As soon
:56:44. > :56:51.as the feet hit the ground, fair game. Nightingale did well to take
:56:52. > :56:54.it in the air. You are right, they timed to perfection. I thought
:56:55. > :57:06.England lost their shape a little bit in that set. Immaculately timed.
:57:07. > :57:15.Issac Luke has to clear some pressure with that kick. Jermaine
:57:16. > :57:23.McGillvary picks out Johnson. Johnson grimly hangs on. Hall with a
:57:24. > :57:38.little gap. The big forwards are tiring a little. Two gone. England
:57:39. > :57:51.to the halfway line. Sam Burgess. Quick hands. The New Zealand defence
:57:52. > :58:04.at sixes and sevens. Number two -- Two tackles remaining.
:58:05. > :58:22.Hall goes down the blindside. Lucky for him they can keep it alive. Kahu
:58:23. > :58:26.does exceptionally well. He had to. He had to bury himself into the
:58:27. > :58:35.ground so he did not get picked off and carried over his try line. The
:58:36. > :58:42.momentum is with England. The intensity they have put into the
:58:43. > :58:49.defensive line. Keep their discipline, make them kick from that
:58:50. > :59:01.20 metre area. Four tackles gun. That is five if he doesn't float,
:59:02. > :59:07.which it doesn't. -- off-loaded. Good result. That was a good result
:59:08. > :59:11.for England. These are opportunities in games that you get every now and
:59:12. > :59:15.again. You have to take these opportunities. If England scored
:59:16. > :59:24.here, they are certainly on the front foot. What price a penalty in
:59:25. > :59:32.this next set? That is where you missed Tommy Leuluai. He would have
:59:33. > :59:36.allowed Johnson that pressure free kick. England have reaped the
:59:37. > :59:41.benefit. Tommy Leuluai on the sideline. An experienced full-back
:59:42. > :59:45.should have said, you are on the wrong side, give me the ball and I
:59:46. > :59:47.will help you out. But Johnson has just done everything on his own
:59:48. > :59:55.today. Great opportunity for England.
:59:56. > :00:02.a kind and we have been in these circumstances before, the World Cup
:00:03. > :00:16.semifinal at Wembley. Three years ago. You have got to believe that
:00:17. > :00:31.you can win these games. Four gone. Two to go. England supporters baying
:00:32. > :00:37.for a penalty. Sarginson drop that. That was a chance. You could see the
:00:38. > :00:46.Kiwis, are the world up had created the opportunity for Sarginson. He
:00:47. > :00:57.has got a good chance. That is an opportunity. Just to take this game
:00:58. > :01:06.away from New Zealand. Not managed to take it. He has been
:01:07. > :01:13.disappointed. Just turned inside. Put into a hole. You do not get many
:01:14. > :01:15.of them at the international game. You have just got to take that one
:01:16. > :01:33.opportunity. Both England centres, just one
:01:34. > :02:01.desperately unlucky fumble from scoring today.
:02:02. > :02:15.Ryan Hall wants it back. Wrestled to the ground. Talk about getting your
:02:16. > :02:29.team on the front foot, certainly done that this afternoon.
:02:30. > :02:56.England fans chanting The Great Escape at the moment.
:02:57. > :03:05.Just a little bit too far. Could not challenge. Desperately trying to
:03:06. > :03:11.recover. But giving New Zealand the opportunity to get the ball lobby.
:03:12. > :03:21.If England lose today, they will have to defeat Scotland and
:03:22. > :03:31.Australia. They would. They would beat both of them, to make the
:03:32. > :03:47.final. And Johnson goes to the left-hand side. Created by the
:03:48. > :03:54.off-load. In, bump, turn. And if he gets that ball out... Jordan Rapana
:03:55. > :04:09.gets away. United expect him to execute that. We'll England get
:04:10. > :04:22.another opportunity? Wales are 16-14 up. Six minutes to go. And England
:04:23. > :04:32.are running out of time and chances. New Zealand hanging on. That is all
:04:33. > :04:46.that they have got to do. Kicking range. This would have to be good.
:04:47. > :04:57.Couple of tackles to go. Ref says play on. Using the energy. The New
:04:58. > :05:10.Zealand line has to re-establish itself quickly. Sam Burgess, ball is
:05:11. > :05:15.lost. It was a forward pass. Just trying too hard. You have got to do
:05:16. > :05:28.the easy, simple things. No need for that. Just sucking defenders. That
:05:29. > :05:40.is the anxiety, being behind on the scoreboard. And it is absolutely
:05:41. > :05:49.bang on. Because you just get anxious and make mistakes you
:05:50. > :05:57.probably would not make otherwise. At the very least, New Zealand are
:05:58. > :06:03.going to get a good kick at the end of this set. Advantageous position.
:06:04. > :06:28.Still some time left for England. Some questions being asked. But Hall
:06:29. > :06:35.captures that. 99 yards to go, four minutes left. England need to do
:06:36. > :06:49.something sharpish. Jonny Lomax, down the middle. Good recovery. But
:06:50. > :07:03.they have got some numbers. New Zealand defender was all over him.
:07:04. > :07:17.Five tackles gone. Where do England go? Gareth Widdop for the drop goal
:07:18. > :07:26.attempt. Wide. I thought that was the correct decision to go for that.
:07:27. > :07:34.Just tantalised. Drifting to the left-hand side of the post. New
:07:35. > :07:43.Zealand looking exceptionally tired. Going to have another opportunity.
:07:44. > :07:51.One more set of six. Three to go. New Zealand will probably get to the
:07:52. > :07:57.sideline with this. Just incredible. You can see why he has got the most
:07:58. > :08:10.yardage in the NRL. So powerful. Brick feet.
:08:11. > :08:31.Two left in the set. New Zealand looking to finish strongly. Here it
:08:32. > :08:40.comes. Johnson going to the touchline. Just seeing the clock
:08:41. > :08:48.out. He has got so much time. It is ridiculous. It is so difficult to
:08:49. > :08:54.put the pressure on the half back. He knows exactly how to create
:08:55. > :09:01.space. Natural and makes time for himself. He has just been the
:09:02. > :09:09.standard for me today. We are going to see possibly six more tackles
:09:10. > :09:17.from England, to try to get a good start at the four Nations. This is
:09:18. > :09:24.it. England was Mike last throw of the dice... You would suspect. That
:09:25. > :09:32.is the first. Sam Burgess. Tiring now. Both of the players. Sam
:09:33. > :09:45.Burgess has given that way. And that could just be the game. Issac Luke
:09:46. > :09:53.is hur. -- hurt. That is game over. 90 seconds to go. Sam Burgess, the
:09:54. > :09:58.opportunity to forward but Issac Luke knew exactly what was trying to
:09:59. > :10:09.do. He has got the ball back for his team.
:10:10. > :10:26.Josh Hodgson, bang of heads? The shoulder, and then the head. The
:10:27. > :10:34.shoulder, first connection. Just trying to force the error. He knows
:10:35. > :10:39.that it has potentially gone, saw the opportunity to get the ball
:10:40. > :10:40.back. I think that he is all right. But he will stay down for a little
:10:41. > :11:01.bit. Rueful look for Sam Burgess. Some
:11:02. > :11:06.battle grounds to be fought over the next few weeks. It is a damaging
:11:07. > :11:12.start to the competition for England. But they know exactly the
:11:13. > :11:22.task ahead of them. They have got to defeat Scotland and is Julia. --
:11:23. > :11:25.Australia. And it could come down to points difference. A lot of things
:11:26. > :11:28.up for grabs over the next few weeks. New Zealand just looking to
:11:29. > :12:11.run the clock down. 80 seconds. And here comes Johnson. Turnover.
:12:12. > :12:18.The referee has been asking the question. Turnover. 30 seconds left
:12:19. > :12:30.to play. This is it. Can England go 90 metres in 30 seconds? They have
:12:31. > :12:44.just got to keep the ball alive. 15 seconds. Bateman... This is the last
:12:45. > :12:57.play. This is going to be the last play. Running into trouble. Has the
:12:58. > :13:06.referee heard that? Years. Punch of the air from New Zealand players.
:13:07. > :13:16.Having to do that tough, but doing it tough, Shaun Johnson's drop goal
:13:17. > :13:20.and has kicking in general. The chances, and begin clinical. As I
:13:21. > :13:23.said before it is about composure and being clinical. That is the big
:13:24. > :13:29.difference at this level. New Zealand have been better. Yes. And
:13:30. > :13:46.it was Shaun Johnson, the difference with his drop goal. He has created
:13:47. > :13:50.everything. It is a familiar theme. Close but not quite for England.
:13:51. > :13:55.Still got two battles to face but they have been beaten by New
:13:56. > :14:01.Zealand. Congratulations. Man of the Match. How tough was that? Very
:14:02. > :14:05.tough. We knew that we were going to come here and the home support, all
:14:06. > :14:17.of the players that they have got. Or some from our boys. Massive
:14:18. > :14:20.effort. Particularly that first 20 minutes, how key was the defence?
:14:21. > :14:27.You all the pressure that we were able to just go through, and turn
:14:28. > :14:35.through, score. It was the same in the second half. Boys hung in. You
:14:36. > :14:40.certainly seem to enjoy playing against England. I am not sure we
:14:41. > :14:50.enjoy just as much. It is always a pleasure, against a hostile crowd.
:14:51. > :14:54.Thank you for having us. Thank you. Kevin. That was disappointing from
:14:55. > :15:04.England perspective? It was tough. To lose by that 65th minute drop
:15:05. > :15:09.goal, you thought that they could manufacture something. It is
:15:10. > :15:16.disappointing. The battle was lost. Two big games to come. Whatever
:15:17. > :15:21.happened, we had to defeat Australia, the final or otherwise.
:15:22. > :15:31.It is still there. You have only got about ten seconds. New Zealand, too
:15:32. > :15:35.wordly wise? At crucial times, just making the correct decisions. Thank
:15:36. > :15:41.you. We will be speaking to the England camp and next week we have
:15:42. > :15:45.got the double-header, England Scotland and Australia New Zealand.
