:00:39. > :00:45.The Wolves arrived with the league leaders shield already in the trophy

:00:46. > :00:49.cabinet, but defeat to Hull at Wembley rev into their chances of

:00:50. > :00:54.doing the trouble. They've never won here at Old Trafford, but arrived

:00:55. > :00:58.with the best attacking Super League this season. They are going to need

:00:59. > :01:02.it if they want to do the double. The Warriors have been one of the

:01:03. > :01:07.best offensive teams at this season but they are looking to avoid three

:01:08. > :01:11.successive defeats at the Theatre of dreams. Shaun Wane says the anyway

:01:12. > :01:19.to drive out of here is with a trophy on the bus. It is one versus

:01:20. > :01:28.two. It is the Super League Grand Final. Warrington, Wigan. Two towns

:01:29. > :01:35.where rugby league is king. But there's only one crown. A theatre of

:01:36. > :01:42.dreams will provide the stage for rugby league royalty to stake their

:01:43. > :01:48.claim for a 2016 coronation. Twice already these great clubs have

:01:49. > :01:56.fought each other at Old Trafford. Nearly 30 years ago, Wigan with

:01:57. > :02:01.Shaun Wane as that foot soldier, earned success. Three years ago with

:02:02. > :02:07.Shaun Wane as general they won again. But Wigan have lost their

:02:08. > :02:12.last two finals in this arena, and Warrington have their own veteran of

:02:13. > :02:20.the winner 's podium. Twice Tony Smith lead leads to Grand Final

:02:21. > :02:26.glory. Could he inspire the desperate Wolves to a first league

:02:27. > :02:30.title since 1955? Or at the third time of asking, will the battle

:02:31. > :02:40.scarred Warriors finally take that crown? Joining us here are two men

:02:41. > :02:45.who know just a bit about winning at Old Trafford, player and coach Kevin

:02:46. > :02:49.Sinfield and Brian Noble. How strange for you to be stood here in

:02:50. > :02:53.a suit and not have your beats on getting ready? It's a bit different

:02:54. > :02:57.but it's great to be here and experience it. As you can hear the

:02:58. > :03:01.noise behind us, it's been an incredible experience. I've really

:03:02. > :03:07.enjoyed it. We are in for a great game. It should be a really special

:03:08. > :03:13.game. We've got the best attack and the best defence, toss of a coin

:03:14. > :03:18.might separate these teams. If Wigan play a bit more expansively Bell

:03:19. > :03:22.challenge Warrington. I did think Warrington can change, it's in their

:03:23. > :03:27.DNA, they are going to throw the ball around. What did you make of

:03:28. > :03:31.Warrington's performance and what about the transformation of Tom

:03:32. > :03:38.Lineham? I think they've been really disciplined the last few weeks.

:03:39. > :03:42.After Wembley is always difficult. Tony has got them firing, they've

:03:43. > :03:50.got some fantastic English players. The one who really stepped up for me

:03:51. > :03:54.last week was Stefan Ratchford. For Wigan, the last few weeks they've

:03:55. > :03:59.shown character and spirit, haven't they? And they have started to throw

:04:00. > :04:03.the ball around. They are resilient. I hope they haven't thrown the ball

:04:04. > :04:07.around with a view to catch up football. They are structured, they

:04:08. > :04:11.are tough, they are going to be hard to break down. I think there's a

:04:12. > :04:16.belief in the camp. I think they will really fancy it. Don't buy into

:04:17. > :04:26.Shaun Wane's apparent we are the only using kids, they've got eight

:04:27. > :04:28.or nine internationals in that team as well. I think we are in for a

:04:29. > :04:32.bopper. Sean O'Loughlin is back, he's on the bench. Is that a gamble?

:04:33. > :04:37.I don't think it's a gamble. With that quality you have to play him.

:04:38. > :04:41.It surprised me he's not starting but a great addition to the team.

:04:42. > :04:46.Going into today, there needs to be a story or a cause behind the team.

:04:47. > :04:52.They've both got that. Warrington having never won it since 1955 and

:04:53. > :04:56.lost on the last two occasions, Wigan staring down the barrel of a

:04:57. > :05:01.third successive defeat. They want to win it but also get their monkeys

:05:02. > :05:09.off their back. It will be the 2016 Super League champions?

:05:10. > :05:20.COMMENTATOR: These are the moments that get you. This walk out of the

:05:21. > :05:25.tunnel into the intense noise, the intense heat. Here they come to the

:05:26. > :05:29.annual wall of noise. Not just one of rugby league's great occasions

:05:30. > :05:39.but a highlight of the sporting calendar, now. It is another wow

:05:40. > :05:44.moment at Old Trafford ahead of this Grand Final, and two clubs who can

:05:45. > :05:55.claim every right to be here this year. Wigan and Warrington. They

:05:56. > :06:02.finish second and first. This is the way they are lining up tonight.

:06:03. > :06:06.Chris Sandow after a spell of injury absence is amongst the Interchange

:06:07. > :06:11.players. He has potential to add some real magic to this occasion if

:06:12. > :06:16.he is firing on all cylinders. A handful of individuals in that

:06:17. > :06:21.Warrington side will have big parts to play. Wigan likewise on the

:06:22. > :06:24.bench, touch and go all week for skipper Sean O'Loughlin but he's

:06:25. > :06:30.named and he could have a crucial part to play when he comes on. But

:06:31. > :06:34.again, if he holds out in the heat of this battle. Robert Hicks is the

:06:35. > :06:51.referee for this one as well. It will be Wigan to get us under

:06:52. > :06:57.way. 61 years since Warrington lifted rugby league's most prized

:06:58. > :07:02.crown. Can they rewrite history tonight? Only four years for Wigan,

:07:03. > :07:06.defeats in their last two Grand Finals have left a rather bitter

:07:07. > :07:18.taste that they would love to rinse away. What are we expecting here

:07:19. > :07:23.tonight? Going into the semifinals, it was difficult to pick the winner.

:07:24. > :07:33.After Warrington's performance against St Helens, especially Sims

:07:34. > :07:36.and Hill, they just didn't have the edge but it's all about the

:07:37. > :07:41.composure. Whoever keeps their composure I think will win this

:07:42. > :07:47.game. Straightaway a lovely kick there from Declan Patton. He's been

:07:48. > :07:51.chosen in the starting line-up. Looked after the ball, good kick,

:07:52. > :07:54.good chase. Now they'll be challenging Wigan with their

:07:55. > :08:00.defensive effort. The two men on the bench tonight who had so much

:08:01. > :08:04.chatter about them in the week, Chris Sandow and Shauna Lockman, the

:08:05. > :08:09.fact they are on the bench is a reflection they are simply not fully

:08:10. > :08:14.fit. They are a gamble. They are a gamble but they are special players

:08:15. > :08:19.and they might be needed. There's knock-on by Bateman. It was on

:08:20. > :08:24.target when it came him. Scrappy first set of six by Wigan. They went

:08:25. > :08:32.across the field very early. It's an off-load, scrappy play. Renowned for

:08:33. > :08:39.looking after the ball and challenging the opposition. They are

:08:40. > :08:43.deep in their own half. That's a significant tactic therefore the

:08:44. > :08:55.Cherry and Whites. Unsuccessful this time. Advantage Warrington, here.

:08:56. > :09:06.Scrum and possession inside enemy territory. Ashton Sims. Here comes

:09:07. > :09:15.Hill... 25 yards away when he gets up and plays him. They tried to find

:09:16. > :09:22.a bit of wits, here. Wilde to his feet. It's back with Gidley again.

:09:23. > :09:26.Well met by the Wigan defenders. This is good early pressure that

:09:27. > :09:33.Warrington are putting on, here. Out come the defenders from Wigan again.

:09:34. > :09:40.Final tackle, final play in this set. Gidley with a kick towards his

:09:41. > :09:47.right hand side. Terrific leap by Lineham. Evans with a stutter and a

:09:48. > :09:53.step but too many defenders. Tremendous defence for Wigan but

:09:54. > :09:57.they are asking questions of Warrington Wolves in that set of

:09:58. > :10:10.six. Shaun Wane looking on, the head coach. Williams... Sarginson the

:10:11. > :10:16.full-back in the line, he drops it away, keeps it alive. Williams is

:10:17. > :10:20.offering a threat, here. He's got support from Bateman, the ever

:10:21. > :10:29.direct John Bateman. He's going to get a penalty. He was trying to get

:10:30. > :10:38.a quick play of the ball. A great opportunity for Powell. He was

:10:39. > :10:43.lucky, there. There's no control of the speed of the play of the ball.

:10:44. > :10:47.It was a second effort that brought Bateman to the ground. It will be a

:10:48. > :10:54.simple two points the Wigan Warriors. Wigan fans in good voice.

:10:55. > :11:03.In terms of nerve settlers, they don't come much easier than this.

:11:04. > :11:08.For Matty Smith, he's kicking it into the gale of the noise created

:11:09. > :11:13.by the supporters. Wigan have the lead.

:11:14. > :11:26.Russell, scampering on. Warrington with Sims. Bold it away to Wilde.

:11:27. > :11:32.When it comes eventually to Lineham. No depth to hit the ball at pace.

:11:33. > :11:37.Gidley's kick is on the touchline and that in the circumstances...

:11:38. > :11:42.It's going to keep in. It's a very good kick regardless. With that

:11:43. > :11:53.chase there from Warrington it could start an opportunity. Nice, neat

:11:54. > :11:59.pick-up. His dad Jason Robinson played in the first ever Grand

:12:00. > :12:09.Final. First Grand Final combination of father and son. This is Crosby.

:12:10. > :12:21.Inside to Farrell who bursts with energy through the gap! Gets the

:12:22. > :12:29.past away, Warrington's defends razor sharp when they to be. He

:12:30. > :12:35.threw a forward pass to Charnley. It's no try. They should have been

:12:36. > :12:41.celebrating... Brilliant defensive play by Rhys Evans. If you're

:12:42. > :12:50.talking about depth, just watch this play. Rhys Evans, look at him. They

:12:51. > :12:55.keep the ball going and they have to score. As I said before the game,

:12:56. > :13:03.compose you will win you this game. That was eight brilliant opportunity

:13:04. > :13:13.for Wigan. Lovely play, though. Inside ball.

:13:14. > :13:20.It's all right knowing it's coming, it's stopping it when it looks good,

:13:21. > :13:30.that's the problem. That's very high. Charnley leaps... He's knocked

:13:31. > :13:39.on! Josh Charnley knocks on. Warrington get their result. Poor

:13:40. > :13:44.technique, that. The elbows needed to be together, there. I don't know

:13:45. > :13:49.whether he needed to take off either. He could have remained on

:13:50. > :13:54.the ground. I agree. I think players go airborne because they think they

:13:55. > :13:59.are not contested, then. You've got to attack the ball and Charnley was

:14:00. > :14:05.way off. Chance for Warrington, here. An excellent opportunity from

:14:06. > :14:16.an excellent starting position. Toby King gets up and plays. He is

:14:17. > :14:23.Atkins... Gidley with a short pass. Ashton Sims smashing onto it. That's

:14:24. > :14:33.a rugged Wigan defence. Didn't go too quick. Gidley, again. King with

:14:34. > :14:41.a flipped pass! Its Warrington's turned to blow a chance. Two

:14:42. > :14:44.opportunities, blown. A tremendous off-load, there. Difficult one to

:14:45. > :14:49.take. But when you're playing at this level in a game of this

:14:50. > :14:54.importance, those are the game breakers. Ryan Atkins put that one

:14:55. > :15:00.down. The noise has barely subsided from the minute they walked out at

:15:01. > :15:09.Old Trafford. Just that one kick so far separating Matty Smith's early

:15:10. > :15:10.penalty. But a chance appease. They've got moments to regret,

:15:11. > :15:21.moments to be relieved about. A high tempo game, very quickly

:15:22. > :15:26.indeed. John Bateman just keeps going. He doesn't look much, but he

:15:27. > :15:37.is hard to stop. Here comes Williams. That was topped on. --

:15:38. > :15:43.tapped on. They really rushed the Wigan ball-carriers there, put

:15:44. > :15:47.pressure on the skill, and they went to tap on Gildart. He tapped it

:15:48. > :16:11.forward. Rhys Evans will take it just about

:16:12. > :16:18.inside Wigan territory. Duties are taken on by the outside backs

:16:19. > :16:23.momentarily. Three tackles to go, Warrington are 20 metres away. Hill

:16:24. > :16:34.will add a bit of muscularity to the situation. Clark, darting to the

:16:35. > :16:39.left-hand side. Patton! Oh, yes! Declan Patton, absolutely wonderful!

:16:40. > :16:47.Years the local lad who has become a local hero in the last few weeks. He

:16:48. > :16:53.is -- he is the local lad. A bit of a show, a bit of a go. He has the

:16:54. > :16:59.strength and the wherewithal. His team-mate went over the line with

:17:00. > :17:06.him. Tremendous try. Watching Matty Smith, walking back, he was tired.

:17:07. > :17:17.He left too much work for Bateman. Too close to the try line. Silence

:17:18. > :17:24.in the head of Declan Patton. He has a chance to add to his four. He is

:17:25. > :17:31.coming of age this year, is young Declan Patton. Adding the goal to

:17:32. > :17:41.his try. Warrington lead, 6-2, with 21 minutes played. Five more efforts

:17:42. > :17:52.to come here from Warrington. Either through brutal force or subtlety

:17:53. > :18:03.will stop -- or subtlety. Warrington have a pretty good field position.

:18:04. > :18:07.Clark, again, short to Hill, who knows his way to the try line, but

:18:08. > :18:15.can't find the root on that occasion. Gidley, with a little

:18:16. > :18:19.double pump. Enough bodies to deny him his moment of glory. Last play,

:18:20. > :18:34.here it comes. Pumped away again. Jack Hughes has lost the ball. What

:18:35. > :18:39.an effort. Lost it. Sarginson again, who with ball in hand, has not...

:18:40. > :18:54.Years carried the ball very well indeed. That's a great pass.

:18:55. > :19:02.It's a lovely play by Williams. Tierney has got room to run. And he

:19:03. > :19:13.is smashed from right, left and centre. On the sixth tackle, Wigan

:19:14. > :19:18.will find themselves 15 metres away. Bateman has been taken by Atkins,

:19:19. > :19:24.and Atkins is running away. He thinks he is going the length of the

:19:25. > :19:32.field. As it was, he was denied, anyway.

:19:33. > :19:39.He couldn't hear him. They couldn't hear his whistle from 18 yards away,

:19:40. > :19:45.so he has had to run all the way downfield and say, fellows, it is a

:19:46. > :19:59.penalty, follow me. They have to go all the way back to the other end of

:20:00. > :20:13.the field. Years offside. He had to go back one yard. He is offside.

:20:14. > :20:23.They have a history of kicking for one or two match points. Warrington

:20:24. > :20:27.with a lot of defending to do. Let's see if Wigan can execute him. Cornet

:20:28. > :20:34.is out wide. Line has got his number. He has him in his pocket for

:20:35. > :20:48.the time being, which might not be the case for all of tonight. -- line

:20:49. > :20:59.am. Bateman has done well to slip away from the original tackle. Smith

:21:00. > :21:02.is spinning it back to Farrell. Farrell has missed a man out. There

:21:03. > :21:13.have been a lot of wide passes detainee. Lineham is there. Caught

:21:14. > :21:21.well by Westwood. That was an exceptional set of tackles for

:21:22. > :21:31.Warrington Wolves. 30 seconds of the half remaining. Atkins, just beyond

:21:32. > :21:40.the 30 metre mark. Bailey was stopped in his tracks. Quite

:21:41. > :21:44.literally. By Sean O'Loughlin. Has that her O'Loughlin? That is the

:21:45. > :21:50.question. He is jogging back to position. Last tackle, last night.

:21:51. > :21:59.Belted down field by Ratchford. The hooter sounds. Stoppage in play.

:22:00. > :22:03.Wigan started with a little bit of excitement, but they will go down

:22:04. > :22:08.with a tackle. The hooter sounds. It is that man's try that has made all

:22:09. > :22:20.the difference, Declan Patton. Ratchford restarts the second half.

:22:21. > :22:30.It's not been settled yet, not by a long way. Just the one try, Declan

:22:31. > :22:33.Patton, in the 21st minute. Patton, a conversion for Warrington. It's as

:22:34. > :22:40.close as you would like it to be, as a neutral. Lots of excitement in the

:22:41. > :22:44.first half. There were half chances, some outstanding defence. An element

:22:45. > :22:51.of enterprise in the kicking game as well. The best, I feel, is still to

:22:52. > :23:07.come. O'Loughlin goes back to Williams. This is a good first set

:23:08. > :23:19.by Wigan. They have got themselves into some very competitive kicking.

:23:20. > :23:29.Line has done well again. -- Lineham. Defensively, they are

:23:30. > :23:40.clearing every kick. Bailey, driving it in. Smart and quick footwork by

:23:41. > :23:44.Russell. A couple of tackles still to go in this set, the first that

:23:45. > :23:48.Warrington have had in the second half. That is a good kick from

:23:49. > :23:59.Patton, a really good kick. That puts Wigan on the back foot. Well

:24:00. > :24:07.executed, that kick. Shaun Wane and Cole looking on full stop his side

:24:08. > :24:14.have work to do, but it is well within their capabilities. Here is

:24:15. > :24:23.Tierney on the left-hand side. Inside ball. Great covering defence

:24:24. > :24:29.by Evans. The pass was off the floor when the tackle was complete, so

:24:30. > :24:35.Wigan are given a penalty. Wigan have created a chance. Magnificent

:24:36. > :24:41.cover defence from Rhys Evans. The defence has saved Warrington again.

:24:42. > :24:49.Gildart, dummy half, will try to run away from Evans. He gets a hand on

:24:50. > :24:52.him, though. A lot of these Wigan players were brought up through the

:24:53. > :25:05.Wigan system. Gildart was one of those. There is another O'Loughlin,

:25:06. > :25:14.who came through the system. You sense that something is going to

:25:15. > :25:23.give soon. Williams skipping Sutton. Here is the last. It is anybody's

:25:24. > :25:29.here, but it is Warrington who just about hold on. The kicked the fence,

:25:30. > :25:35.once again, Warrington has been tremendous. It is not just the

:25:36. > :25:41.full-backs and wingers, prop forwards, half-backs, they are all

:25:42. > :25:49.working hard. To defuse the plays. Sandow is coming on. Clark is going.

:25:50. > :25:53.It is interesting to see now who will be running dummy half. It looks

:25:54. > :25:59.as if Declan Patton is going to there. Sandow will assume the

:26:00. > :26:03.half-backs role. It is a big opportunity for Sandow. He has been

:26:04. > :26:14.off the field for the last couple of weeks. The stages separate bit of

:26:15. > :26:24.magic. His first kick has caught Charnley. That is the second time in

:26:25. > :26:31.the game. Gelling came from an offside position. They have made a

:26:32. > :26:47.case, the Warrington Wolves. They have given a scrum. The game has

:26:48. > :26:56.been with Wigan in this second hour. This is the best field position

:26:57. > :27:03.Warrington have had. Sims, 20 metres out. Declan Patton, who has held his

:27:04. > :27:12.own in this game. Chris Hill has driven it in. This is Sandow now.

:27:13. > :27:24.Atkins is trying to force his way closer. Warrington fans are followed

:27:25. > :27:29.expectation. Trying to push our Farrell, who threatens to off-load

:27:30. > :27:38.one-handed. Wigan are on their own line. Backs to the wall, here.

:27:39. > :27:50.Sandow, spinning it back. Good off-load. Hughes with a pass. Atkins

:27:51. > :27:56.with the dummy. He is claiming it! The referee was close, but he wants

:27:57. > :28:05.a second opinion. He thinks it's a try on the field. As Ryan Atkins

:28:06. > :28:13.claimed the second try of the night? -- has Ryan Atkins... The referee

:28:14. > :28:17.has awarded it on the field of play, so that would take some undoing. It

:28:18. > :28:27.will be forensically examined, because it doesn't look as clear-cut

:28:28. > :28:32.as we initially thought. I think there is a loose ball. He's lost it.

:28:33. > :28:40.Is it a Wigan hand that knocks it free, and does he then touch it

:28:41. > :28:47.down. For me, there is in us -- there is enough evidence to disallow

:28:48. > :28:51.the try. This could be crucial. We can see the ball coming free, but

:28:52. > :28:55.the video referee has to be absolutely certain as to how it has

:28:56. > :29:02.come free in order to deny the try. I don't agree. The video referee is

:29:03. > :29:09.there to make the correct call. I think this is going to be no try.

:29:10. > :29:17.Yes. Ryan Atkins is denied his moment. Warrington still lead 6-2.

:29:18. > :29:22.That was the correct decision. There has got to be downward pressure, and

:29:23. > :29:27.funny, there was none. That is a big try saving tackle from Ben Flower.

:29:28. > :29:45.Landed his weight at that crucial time.

:29:46. > :29:57.Bateman is swarmed around by those Warrington defenders.

:29:58. > :30:05.He had a bit of momentum worked up before he hit the Warrington line.

:30:06. > :30:17.Farrell with a pass away. This is going to be Gildart's try. It's his

:30:18. > :30:22.moment. Wigan draw level. And it's the old redoubtable, Liam Farrell,

:30:23. > :30:26.who made the telling cross and then kept his composure for Gildart to

:30:27. > :30:32.score. What a good try that was there. It all came from this at the

:30:33. > :30:39.other end. Ben Flower was therein amongst a wealth of Wigan players.

:30:40. > :30:44.Williams took to the line and Farrell came through on the side.

:30:45. > :30:48.Gildart on the left-hand shoulder of Farrell to finish tremendously well.

:30:49. > :31:01.It is that past there. Soft hands there to Farrell, and there is the

:31:02. > :31:04.centre, Oliver Gildart, to score. Matty Smith with a kick to give his

:31:05. > :31:14.side the lead will stop it is a tough one. As he put it wide? Yes,

:31:15. > :31:15.he has. We are all square, 6-6. The potential of golden point raises its

:31:16. > :31:32.head. There's no doubt it's energised this

:31:33. > :31:38.Wigan side. Russell. Matty Russell, five short of the halfway line.

:31:39. > :31:42.Three tackles gone. Sims, trying to pick another route but equally

:31:43. > :31:50.frustrated. Now Westerman who has got the hands to give it away to

:31:51. > :31:53.Gidley. Toby King has kept the hold and then gives it back to Gidley.

:31:54. > :32:04.Here comes Ratchford, now it's with Evans... Sarginson back to cover.

:32:05. > :32:10.Toby King had to give that. That was where the crucial chance was. Wigan

:32:11. > :32:23.under pressure, two tackles gone. Isa. Wigan game just trying to make

:32:24. > :32:31.some hard yards, here. He is a little different, Anthony Gelling,

:32:32. > :32:41.in a good way. Mosley in a good way. Sarginson. So that's again the fifth

:32:42. > :32:50.tackle. -- mostly in a good way. Ratchford again comes forward. What

:32:51. > :32:55.a good chase that was from Wigan. A really good line chase, there which

:32:56. > :33:01.gave Ratchford not a chink of space to run it. Evans slipped up at dummy

:33:02. > :33:05.half. He's covered the distance in terms of getting beyond that gain

:33:06. > :33:11.line. Warrington are creeping closer. Russell is going to see if

:33:12. > :33:21.there's any tired limbs out there. A couple of tackles to go. 20 metres

:33:22. > :33:31.away. Gidley. Sandow. A little chip over the top. Charnley. Good play by

:33:32. > :33:38.Warrington. Gidley and Sandow, good combination. It's given Warrington a

:33:39. > :33:42.little left. A little chip kick, there. Despite Charnley claiming the

:33:43. > :33:51.ball, good chase to pin him in the goal area. This is what a final

:33:52. > :33:57.should be. We asked 6-6, 60 minutes gone, everything to play for. Matty

:33:58. > :34:01.Smith looking for a clearance, here. Ratchford looking for a safe catch.

:34:02. > :34:09.And a big fellow who might bring it forward and there he is. So

:34:10. > :34:14.Warrington turning the screw, here. But Wigan have been nothing if not

:34:15. > :34:19.resilient this year. They have been one of the real fighters of Super

:34:20. > :34:25.League. Gidley with a pass away to Ratchford. They are clearing a bit

:34:26. > :34:32.of space here which closes quickly. Gildart with the tackle. Here's

:34:33. > :34:37.Hill, straightens up, sets the platform. Two tackles to go.

:34:38. > :34:42.Warrington are going to go right to Sandow. The little fellow dribbles

:34:43. > :34:47.it into the goal area again. Referee says play on and Sarginson nearly

:34:48. > :34:53.making a break. The momentum would have taken him over the line.

:34:54. > :34:58.Farrell. The man who made the break that maybe try that had them singing

:34:59. > :35:09.in the stands those in Cherry and white. Frank Ball, the wrecking

:35:10. > :35:18.ball. -- Frank for, the wrecking ball. Here is Smith with a kick.

:35:19. > :35:23.Wigan finishing their set. In a better position than they had

:35:24. > :35:32.recently. Look at the line again, the chase line. Lineham has lost

:35:33. > :35:37.that. In the heat of the battle, the weight of the collision, Wigan's

:35:38. > :35:42.defence wins out and they've earned themselves a really good position

:35:43. > :35:48.now. Look at him, there's the reaction. There's the kick, the

:35:49. > :35:56.Chase and then the physicality of the collision. That forced the

:35:57. > :36:03.error. Momentum is massive in sport. The momentum is with Wigan, I feel.

:36:04. > :36:07.A big moment in the match by definition, a big moment in the

:36:08. > :36:10.season. There's tackle two but there's four more to go. They've

:36:11. > :36:17.only got a couple of strides to make. Smith puts it back. Sarginson

:36:18. > :36:23.trying to make something happen. Warrington making sure it doesn't.

:36:24. > :36:28.Bateman ten metres away. Here he goes, a man with determination. He's

:36:29. > :36:32.met well. That squirted out, the referee is happy with the player of

:36:33. > :36:41.the ball. Sarginson puts the kick into the corner! Charnley! Josh

:36:42. > :36:46.Charnley with what could be the perfect leaving present! He's on his

:36:47. > :36:52.way, once this match has finished, but he might just be going with a

:36:53. > :36:55.big smile and a smile he is painted on his team-mates' faces, with a try

:36:56. > :37:05.in the corner that gives Wigan the lead. This is the mistake Lineham

:37:06. > :37:12.loses the ball. You've got to take your hat off... That's brilliant

:37:13. > :37:21.play by Sarginson. He just looks up, spots the space and has a brilliant

:37:22. > :37:24.kick. You can just put the kick in behind it and Russell really had

:37:25. > :37:33.rushed up there to close the pass play down. That man finished the

:37:34. > :37:42.try. I think the Wigan contingent are quite happy with that moment.

:37:43. > :37:49.He's kicked one, he's missed one. Big kick, this. 6-point lead if he

:37:50. > :37:55.puts it over. Going to have to score a try and a goal to draw level.

:37:56. > :38:06.Started it wide and sent it further wide. Wigan have the lead and

:38:07. > :38:15.they've not had that for a while. Wigan in control, just about.

:38:16. > :38:28.Away comes Gildart, but not very far. Toby King. Good effort that,

:38:29. > :38:35.defensively. Sarginson involved again. There's only one way this guy

:38:36. > :38:42.goes. He's done well to get the off-load away this time. Powell

:38:43. > :38:47.stashing forward. Wigan on the sixth. Smith with a kick. Charnley

:38:48. > :38:52.applying the pressure and Russell rolls into the area and there's

:38:53. > :39:02.absolutely nothing more he can do. That's brilliant play. Matty Smith

:39:03. > :39:08.on the button with the kick. All on the back of that carry from Bateman

:39:09. > :39:14.and off-load. A pretty good front foot kick their that earns a repeat

:39:15. > :39:22.set. Wigan have looked more likely scorers, most of the play has been

:39:23. > :39:27.in the Warrington half. Eight and a half minutes left to play. A try

:39:28. > :39:38.here for Wigan just about seals it. Yet think. They won't write any game

:39:39. > :39:46.off. Farrell. Wigan are getting closer and closer. A quick try...

:39:47. > :39:59.O'Loughlin has thrown it away. Penalty! For Wigan. What's he given

:40:00. > :40:08.this for? That's harsh, isn't it? That is a very harsh tackle. What

:40:09. > :40:15.are you supposed to do, leave and put the ball down? Matty Smith

:40:16. > :40:19.started the night with a penalty in the sixth minute. To give his side

:40:20. > :40:28.the early lead. Here we are 72 minutes into the game to give his

:40:29. > :40:32.side a 6-point lead. Over it goes. Warrington have to score a try and

:40:33. > :40:37.convert it to get themselves level. So even if they score there'll be

:40:38. > :40:44.pressure on the kick. Matty Smith sees his side into a 12- lead.

:40:45. > :40:51.Stefan Ratchford to send it skywards. They are going for the

:40:52. > :40:57.short one. They need possession. Picked up by Sandow. Warrington

:40:58. > :41:04.getting something, here. Evans... You've got to applaud that restart

:41:05. > :41:13.from Ratchford. Here's Clark, going wide and wider still. Two tackles

:41:14. > :41:19.gone. Atkins is going the direct route and almost, very nearly

:41:20. > :41:29.finding a way through. Three tackles to go, here. Warrington turning up

:41:30. > :41:35.the heat. Real chance. Sandow. Wigan 's defending is manful at the

:41:36. > :41:41.moment. Warrington asking all the questions. Gidley, the man of so

:41:42. > :41:51.much experience. Hughes, Atkins, Russell! He ran in to a brick wall!

:41:52. > :41:54.Cherry and white brick wall came across and however much it hurts

:41:55. > :42:03.they were not going to let him score. He had to come inside there,

:42:04. > :42:11.Matty Russell. Had to come inside. Brilliant defence. Matty Smith's

:42:12. > :42:16.face says it all. Tony Smith need something special for his side to

:42:17. > :42:23.win it from here. Two minutes left. This might be the last set of 64

:42:24. > :42:33.Warrington, here. Caution has got to go to the wind now. They need a bit

:42:34. > :42:40.of magic because they are floundering at the moment. They just

:42:41. > :42:48.need someone to take the reins and say get forward, put a tackle, two

:42:49. > :42:56.tackles, and then set something up. We are into the realms of

:42:57. > :43:03.desperation. Sandow. Wigan's defenders finding their target every

:43:04. > :43:08.time. Couple of tackles to go. King to Gidley. Back it goes for

:43:09. > :43:17.Ratchford. Atkins straightens up. Back to Ratchford again. Ratchford

:43:18. > :43:22.with a pass. Westerman! Five yards away with one played to go. Here is

:43:23. > :43:27.Ratchford again. Gidley, with everything he's got, goes that the

:43:28. > :43:36.line. It's simply not enough. Wigan's defence is there. Is that

:43:37. > :43:43.the final four Warrington? Fantastic online defence. They've given

:43:44. > :43:59.absolutely everything. Their defence has been absolutely fantastic. 30

:44:00. > :44:06.seconds to go. Bateman... Wigan's season has been all about hanging

:44:07. > :44:13.on. Showing a will, showing a desire. Wracked by injuries to key

:44:14. > :44:17.players, and yet they still kept turning up and they still kept

:44:18. > :44:23.winning games. And here they are now, winning the biggest game of

:44:24. > :44:29.them all. A wind they deserve. Warrington have been vetted and

:44:30. > :44:39.bettered by the team in sherry and white. The cherry and whites can

:44:40. > :44:44.celebrate another Grand Final win. It's going to be 62 years at least

:44:45. > :44:50.before Warrington will have lifted the title. What a fantastic effort

:44:51. > :44:54.from those guys in sherry and white. Got to feel sorry for the walls.

:44:55. > :45:01.They've been there and thereabouts all season. Today Wigan have

:45:02. > :45:06.defended their way to the championship. Their defence was

:45:07. > :45:11.absolutely amazing. I think Warrington lost a bit of composure.

:45:12. > :45:14.They needed to give it a bit more. Wigan created far more opportunities

:45:15. > :45:18.and I think they deserve to win this Grand Final.

:45:19. > :45:29.It was close, but it was Wigan's, 12-6. It was unbelievable, one of

:45:30. > :45:34.the best feelings I have had in a Grand Final. I want to say thanks to

:45:35. > :45:39.everyone who has played a part this year. Every squad player has played

:45:40. > :45:42.a game and has been a part of this. When did you know you were going to

:45:43. > :45:49.play and take part? Yesterday, probably. I have done a lot of work

:45:50. > :45:52.in the last two weeks with the physios and conditioners, just to

:45:53. > :46:02.get it right. Training yesterday, I was all right. Shaun Wane gave me a

:46:03. > :46:11.note. What about these young guys, while you sat on the sidelines?

:46:12. > :46:17.Unbelievable. There's always been people out, people in, but just a

:46:18. > :46:22.great job by everyone involved. Full of emotion for the players, the way

:46:23. > :46:25.they have handled themselves. The fans have understood what we've gone

:46:26. > :46:34.through this year. If people knew the half of it, this is the best win

:46:35. > :46:43.we've had. This is a Wigan victory, the Academy, your guys. The number

:46:44. > :46:49.of Wigan kids in that team. Young kids from Wigan, I know where they

:46:50. > :46:55.are from, I know their dads and it is a good feeling. It was tight.

:46:56. > :47:00.When it was tight, it could go either way. We saw that tonight. In

:47:01. > :47:04.the second half, we probably gave away a few too many penalties, gave

:47:05. > :47:08.them a bit of field position, and made one or two back errors when it

:47:09. > :47:14.was crucial, but it was nip and tuck, like some of the other games.

:47:15. > :47:22.How do you reflect on the season as a whole? Yes, decent, decent. We

:47:23. > :47:28.gave ourselves a chance for all three trophies, so we've probably

:47:29. > :47:32.got the lesser of the three. We'll be an there, fighting again next

:47:33. > :47:35.year. We will bring one of these home eventually. Sooner rather than

:47:36. > :47:40.later, I hope will stop congratulations to Wigan. They've

:47:41. > :47:45.had to fight over a lot of injuries and adversity. They showed some of

:47:46. > :47:52.their toughness today, so good on them. We will be back, and we will

:47:53. > :47:57.challenge in the near future. I will miss this place. I have been holding

:47:58. > :48:07.it in for a few weeks now. This is the one I wanted to finish on and

:48:08. > :48:12.I've done it. And you scored a try, so you wrote it well. I said I

:48:13. > :48:16.wanted to finish on some silverware, and I have been fighting, week in,

:48:17. > :48:20.week out, to get as that. It has finally come to the day, and it is

:48:21. > :48:27.one of those well I'm... I'm overwhelmed. Wigan really brought it

:48:28. > :48:34.tonight. It was a slugfest out there. Full credit to them, I can't

:48:35. > :48:41.fault any of the boys. We tried our backsides off and couldn't get the

:48:42. > :48:49.win in the end. I don't really want to go in... Direction I might lose

:48:50. > :49:01.it. It's a tough pill to swallow at the moment, but I love the character

:49:02. > :49:05.in our room, and we'll be back. Sometimes it is the sheer will to

:49:06. > :49:14.succeed that overcomes everything else. And that is surely the epitaph

:49:15. > :49:20.to Wigan's season. Sean O'Loughlin off the injury list play a big part

:49:21. > :49:28.a night. And 2016, Wigan are the Super League champions.

:49:29. > :49:34.What an arm wrestle on a final, Brian. It was a test in the best

:49:35. > :49:38.possible sense. The bounce of the ball didn't quite go Warrington's

:49:39. > :49:43.way, but full credit to Wigan. They were resilient and had the play. You

:49:44. > :49:48.could see the desire and challenge of Warrington. They got there,

:49:49. > :49:51.didn't they? Kevin, you talked about needing a story, something behind

:49:52. > :49:58.it, and Wigan have battled against injury all season. Was that what got

:49:59. > :50:02.them over the line? They have really dug in and fought adversity. I

:50:03. > :50:07.wasn't sure they would have the emotion for tonight, but they have

:50:08. > :50:11.come up with. On the sideline today, Sam Tomkins, Joel Tomkins, Michael

:50:12. > :50:16.McIlorum, three key players and they have done without them tonight and

:50:17. > :50:25.stood up. What were the key points? Liam Farrell. They weren't troubled

:50:26. > :50:30.by Warrington's running dummy halfs. They kicked a bit better around

:50:31. > :50:46.established better field position than Warrington. There wasn't much

:50:47. > :50:52.between them, was the? -- was there? Sarginson played really well, didn't

:50:53. > :50:56.he? He had a real great game. Brian mentioned already about the defence

:50:57. > :51:02.being on top. The Wigan defence was outstanding tonight. Josh Charnley,

:51:03. > :51:05.some emotional at the end. He goes off to a new chapter of his life,

:51:06. > :51:10.but it is another of those stories we have had in the game. He has gone

:51:11. > :51:17.for the right reasons and couldn't finish on a better high. You can see

:51:18. > :51:21.how much it meant to him. There is a back story there. He goes with best

:51:22. > :51:27.wishes, but who knows, he will probably go back to Wigan. Tony

:51:28. > :51:33.Smith was rueful at the end and said, if you put the S and arts,

:51:34. > :51:44.they know how close they got. It is a tough one for Warrington. To do it

:51:45. > :51:49.three times in the space of format of five years is tough. To beat the

:51:50. > :51:55.league leaders is that. To be that close in two finals... They will be

:51:56. > :52:00.back. Per Shaun Wane, who has looked a bit under pressure at times this

:52:01. > :52:09.season, that will be a very sweet trophy, won't it? It is the only way

:52:10. > :52:13.to answer the critics. He walked out of press conference a few weeks ago

:52:14. > :52:20.because of the backchat. In the last four or five weeks, Shaun has been

:52:21. > :52:26.in charge of his lot and they rock up for him. It was a win of the

:52:27. > :52:36.Wigan Academy, that. It is great for English rugby to see young British

:52:37. > :52:41.players out there. Great for the game. That brings down the curtain

:52:42. > :52:44.on the domestic season. It is time for the International stars to take

:52:45. > :53:10.centre stage. It is time for the four nations.

:53:11. > :53:15.Yes, Sam Burgess is back in the fold, and our coverage of the four

:53:16. > :53:22.Nations starts with England against New Zealand, live from Huddersfield

:53:23. > :53:25.on Saturday the 29th of October. We go on air at 1:15pm, and we'll

:53:26. > :53:30.include highlights of Australia versus Scotland. Joining us as well

:53:31. > :53:37.is the assistant English coach, Denis Betts. What did you make of

:53:38. > :53:42.the final? Were you watching as the England coach going, don't get

:53:43. > :53:46.injured? It was a great, intense game. We saw some players who will

:53:47. > :53:52.be representing their country in the next few weeks. From my point of

:53:53. > :53:55.view, it is hard to be neutral. I was hoping that they came through

:53:56. > :54:04.unscathed, but also that they keep their form. Did anyone play

:54:05. > :54:06.themselves into the squad? I spoke with Shaun Wane earlier in the

:54:07. > :54:13.weight. We just wanted to get through tonight. Williams was

:54:14. > :54:19.outstanding, Farrell was the man of the match. Sarginson had a good

:54:20. > :54:27.game. It's going to be an exciting couple of weeks coming to the four

:54:28. > :54:31.nations. What will it be like for you to work alongside Wane? I am

:54:32. > :54:41.looking forward to the international series. It is dealing with that

:54:42. > :54:45.elite end of players. We will let the players get over tonight and

:54:46. > :54:49.enjoy it, but step into the next thing, which is international rugby.

:54:50. > :54:53.Working with them will be exciting. What are you looking forward to most

:54:54. > :55:01.about the four Nations? Seeing the team is getting to grips with each

:55:02. > :55:05.other. We have seen Matty Russell tonight. There will be some tough

:55:06. > :55:15.and great games. I think we are interested to see the make up of the

:55:16. > :55:18.New England side. It seems like a time of transition for the

:55:19. > :55:23.international game, but with the World Cup only a year away. Very

:55:24. > :55:27.much so. I am looking forward to seeing England perform. We have some

:55:28. > :55:30.fantastic young players, as we talked about earlier stop with

:55:31. > :55:37.Dennis's involvement, John Lambert and's involvement, surrounding Wane

:55:38. > :55:44.is a really strong backroom staff. New Zealand have a few more familiar

:55:45. > :55:47.names back in the squad. They will be tough. Even without the familiar

:55:48. > :56:02.names, they're a fantastic side. The NRL generates a lot of the

:56:03. > :56:08.players that come through to the national team. It is an exciting

:56:09. > :56:19.time to be involved in international rugby. It is not just the players

:56:20. > :56:22.who have been changing over. It is an exciting thing to have Wane

:56:23. > :56:30.Bennett and myself involved. Can England when? Absolutely, I believe

:56:31. > :56:40.that. We have the talent. You wouldn't want to pick a fight with

:56:41. > :56:45.him, and I am confident that Wane Bennett the latter the mix. You can

:56:46. > :56:48.keep up with the four nations on the BBC sport website, including the

:56:49. > :56:59.announcement of the England squad on Monday. We cover all the action,

:57:00. > :57:03.including a double header at the Ricoh Arena, including England

:57:04. > :57:06.versus Australia. That is the end of the domestic season. How do you

:57:07. > :57:16.reflect on the season we have just had? It's been an exciting year, I

:57:17. > :57:20.think. We've seen some fantastic games, two semifinals that have been

:57:21. > :57:23.close, a relegation battle that has gone down to the wire. And we have

:57:24. > :57:28.had a final that has been outstanding. The game is in good

:57:29. > :57:32.health. We have some fantastic players, a competition that is

:57:33. > :57:37.driving at the top end. We have seen a Super League side go down - is

:57:38. > :57:42.that the good thing? Not for them. In terms of the structure? Promotion

:57:43. > :57:48.and relegation is therefore a reason. It causes and upset, all the

:57:49. > :57:54.things we don't like sometimes in the game. But it is there, everyone

:57:55. > :57:57.has to embrace it. A Super League team has gone down and a team from

:57:58. > :58:02.the championship has gone up, and that was the ambition for the game.

:58:03. > :58:07.Kevin, anything you would like to see tweaked or changed? There are

:58:08. > :58:15.loads of things I would like to change, but I think it is tough. It

:58:16. > :58:21.is tough on Hull Kingston Rovers. We all knew that Century as were

:58:22. > :58:31.capable. We know the players and the staff are there. What Jamie is doing

:58:32. > :58:36.is producing a strong team for next year. Good luck for the four

:58:37. > :58:38.nations. Wigan are the 2016 Super League champions. We will see you

:58:39. > :58:44.for the four nations. Goodbye.
