:00:42. > :00:49.The fight for survival is a phrase often used glibly in sport. But not
:00:50. > :00:52.today. Hull KR take on Salford in the million pound game, the prize
:00:53. > :00:56.purely to stay in the Super League for next season. For the losers,
:00:57. > :01:05.careers and livelihoods are at stake. Hull KR have sacked their
:01:06. > :01:07.coach after just three games... We're going to concentrate now on
:01:08. > :01:13.Super League, and that's what matters... Hull KR, in the million
:01:14. > :01:40.pound game! Joining us here at the Lightstream
:01:41. > :01:45.Stadium, Robbie Hunter Paull and Brian Noble. Robbie, you were
:01:46. > :01:48.involved in this last year as the chief executive of the Bradford
:01:49. > :01:53.Bulls. Why is this so unique? Let me tell you, it's horrible. It is a
:01:54. > :01:57.weird, strange week, something I did not get to experience as a player,
:01:58. > :02:02.but you can see a lot of pressure around the club, on the players
:02:03. > :02:05.themselves. Has it's like a Grand Final but there is no silverware at
:02:06. > :02:08.the end of the day. You're basically trying to play for relief, if
:02:09. > :02:14.anything, and it's a strange one to prepare for. Ben Cockayne, the Hull
:02:15. > :02:18.KR full-back has described it as disgusting, that we should be
:02:19. > :02:24.focusing on the mental health of players, that this just is not
:02:25. > :02:27.right? I can agree with some of the sentiments but I think he has got
:02:28. > :02:30.that wrong. You are given a set of circumstances at the beginning of
:02:31. > :02:34.the year. That's professional sport in general. There are risks that
:02:35. > :02:38.come with it, risks of injury, they know the dynamics when they sport. I
:02:39. > :02:41.clearly understand the point he's trying to make but professional
:02:42. > :02:47.sport is not like that. It's not fair. I can only agree with that. I
:02:48. > :02:50.was involved with it, it was a horrible week, there was a lot of
:02:51. > :02:54.anxiety, but at the same time, I would not change it. It was
:02:55. > :02:57.extremely exciting and the build-up was fantastic. For Bradford it was
:02:58. > :03:01.the chance to get back into Super League. When they were relegated,
:03:02. > :03:06.what did it actually mean, were we talking about livelihoods? It did
:03:07. > :03:10.not mean that because the balls were staying full-time. But the emotion
:03:11. > :03:14.from the players, after the game, they had invested so much emotional
:03:15. > :03:19.energy into that game, there was not a dry eye in the changing room.
:03:20. > :03:23.Backroom staff, coaches, players, everyone was brought physically to
:03:24. > :03:28.tears. I guess it will be all about who handles that best? It's easy to
:03:29. > :03:33.say but you've got to hold your nerve. It's a game driven by fear.
:03:34. > :03:38.One team with respect, go to the gallows. It's that intense, try and
:03:39. > :03:42.play your football, remember the good times through the year. The
:03:43. > :03:47.backroom staff and the coaches play a huge role in how they performed
:03:48. > :03:51.today. A Penny for the thoughts of Tim Sheens, who all season has been
:03:52. > :03:54.the director of rugby at Salford, stood down for this game because he
:03:55. > :04:00.is the coach of Hull KR next year - what will he be thinking? It of a
:04:01. > :04:05.conflict-of-interest! Probably the best dozen to ask, his former coach,
:04:06. > :04:09.what are your thoughts? I think he has made the right decision. There
:04:10. > :04:15.is no way he could have approached this game with impartiality. Lots of
:04:16. > :04:20.rumours around, I am pretty confident the integrity of Tim
:04:21. > :04:25.Sheens will be paramount. He had to step down, he's done absolutely the
:04:26. > :04:30.right thing. So who will be in Super League in 2017? Will it be Hull KR
:04:31. > :04:36.or Salford? Your commentary team, John Kear, and first, Dave Woods.
:04:37. > :04:40.DAVE WOODS: Inside this ground today, there is not a nerve that has
:04:41. > :04:44.not been stretched and twisted to near breaking point in the last few
:04:45. > :04:50.days. You can feel the stress of both sets of supporters, and with
:04:51. > :04:57.that backdrop, somehow, these players have to produce a season
:04:58. > :05:03.saving performance. How do you do it on a day like today, produce your
:05:04. > :05:10.best? There are so many nerves flying around here - the tension,
:05:11. > :05:15.you can feel, as soon as you arrive at the ground. This is the way
:05:16. > :05:18.they're lining up. Hull Kingston Rovers have 38-year-old Jamie
:05:19. > :05:24.Peacock on the bench. He's dragged himself out of retirement to hope
:05:25. > :05:28.the cause. Terry Campese is another experienced campaigner whose game
:05:29. > :05:36.management could be pivotal. Salford have real size in their outside
:05:37. > :05:44.backs, and Michael Dobson, a former Hull KR hero, is likely to be at the
:05:45. > :05:51.heart of what they do well today. There is no glory to be gained from
:05:52. > :05:57.today, just relief. Winner takes all in terms of staying in the Super
:05:58. > :06:04.League. Whoever loses, it is relegation, it is jobs lost. John
:06:05. > :06:07.Kear alongside us, you've been in this position, ten years ago, when
:06:08. > :06:12.Wakefield had to beat Castleford in a similar kind of game, so how do
:06:13. > :06:18.you control the nerves? There's trepidation, anxiety, nerves. But
:06:19. > :06:22.you've got to have a belief in your own ability and in that of your
:06:23. > :06:27.team-mates, and you've got to trust that everybody's going to turn up
:06:28. > :06:30.and do their jobs on the day. Here is a first touch of the day for
:06:31. > :06:42.Terry Campese, and it's not the best of kicks. Johnson to run it back.
:06:43. > :06:52.This really has started like an arm wrestle. Form has been up and down.
:06:53. > :06:59.And it looks like a sternum injury, which is serious. Carrying the ball
:07:00. > :07:12.from army half, as all good wingmen do. The Salford coach there. So,
:07:13. > :07:16.Hull Kingston Rovers, a chance to make something happen here, in the
:07:17. > :07:26.shape of formerly in the first instance. Dummy half, Lunt. Walker
:07:27. > :07:32.thinks about the off-load but he's marshalled well by those Salford
:07:33. > :07:42.defenders. Lunt back to Campese! Shrugs off one defender, and
:07:43. > :07:51.off-loads to Lunt. This is good. Lunt again. Campese... Little step
:07:52. > :07:54.by Matthew Marsh. But there's lots of winning Salford defenders.
:07:55. > :08:02.There's a couple of tackles to go here. Campese again, back on the
:08:03. > :08:10.inside, Donaldson. Dragged down, sixth tackle. Lunt with the short
:08:11. > :08:19.one. Walker is claiming this. And the referee gives it! Does not need
:08:20. > :08:28.the video, decides for himself that Adam Walker has touched it down. And
:08:29. > :08:32.its first but, Hull KR. Last tackle play, this, you would expect them to
:08:33. > :08:37.kick. They didn't, they ran it. And Walker managed to force himself over
:08:38. > :08:42.the goal line and plonk it down legally. It's a great try for Hull
:08:43. > :08:46.Kingston Rovers, and it will really settle the early nerves. And you
:08:47. > :08:53.have to say well done to the referee for giving it first-time. It is a
:08:54. > :08:58.nice first conversion, right in front of the sticks, for George
:08:59. > :09:12.Mantellato. No problem. Hull Kingston Rovers, with can see a
:09:13. > :09:25.blasting away down the middle again. A bit of momentum going in their
:09:26. > :09:29.favour. -- with Ken CEOP. Campese's participation was in some doubt
:09:30. > :09:33.because of injury at the back-end of the year. They're very pleased to
:09:34. > :09:40.see him, as and they are to get that penalty as well. Hull Kingston
:09:41. > :10:04.Rovers do have the wind in their sales.
:10:05. > :10:11.That's good yards he has made from that off-load. George Mantellato!
:10:12. > :10:22.They are celebrating another try. Referee nods his head. He thinks,
:10:23. > :10:27.and that might be down to reputation as much as anything else, with Josh
:10:28. > :10:33.Mantellato. He did have a look towards the touch judge, did referee
:10:34. > :10:39.Phil Bentham. I think he felt it was a try. Just looking for
:10:40. > :10:43.confirmation. I can't see any reason why that is not given - the ball is
:10:44. > :10:48.grounded on the whitewash for the elbow hits the sideline. That's a
:10:49. > :10:50.good call from the touch judge and the referee, and it should be
:10:51. > :11:01.clarified pretty quickly but the video referee. Quick as you like,
:11:02. > :11:06.they make the decision, and the try goes Hull Kingston Rovers's way. And
:11:07. > :11:14.this game is going Hull Kingston Rovers' way. Here comes Mantellato,
:11:15. > :11:24.he's a pretty good kicker, the Italian international. And he's done
:11:25. > :11:33.it again. Oh, no, he's not, he's pulled it wide. Superb try, came
:11:34. > :11:39.from eight quick play-the-ball. Quick hands, soft hands, finds the
:11:40. > :11:48.wingmen, and what a tremendous finish from Mantellato.
:11:49. > :11:57.You would have to say, it's not because Salford have been flat, Hull
:11:58. > :12:03.KR have been really on it. They have, although they're being asked
:12:04. > :12:13.questions now. And Salford have penalty. Well, that's the first
:12:14. > :12:20.error from the Hull Kingston Rovers side, and that's the first penalty
:12:21. > :12:27.they have conceded. Johnson making it almost to the 30 metre mark. That
:12:28. > :12:37.looked flat, shall we say?! It's a good carry, though, by Burgess.
:12:38. > :12:43.Dobson gets the pass away. And there is Salford! Boy, did they need that?
:12:44. > :12:50.And they've got it, and their 2000 travelling fans suddenly have hope.
:12:51. > :12:55.This was the forward pass, or alleged forward pass. I think that's
:12:56. > :13:02.a line ball, there's no problem with that. But here was the penalty. That
:13:03. > :13:08.gave the field position, and Dobson took full advantage with a
:13:09. > :13:16.beautifully weighted pass to the big second row, who picked out and pays
:13:17. > :13:24.each. That's what it meant, lifting their spirits. Gareth O'Brien with a
:13:25. > :13:27.chance to reduce the deficit. This will put Salford in striking range
:13:28. > :13:46.again. And he's pushed it wide. Well, here's a moment, Walker having
:13:47. > :13:50.come off, and Jamie Peacock, the grey hairs giving it away, has come
:13:51. > :14:00.on. He has been playing reduced minutes since his return in this
:14:01. > :14:10.last couple of weeks. It's driven in by the Welsh international Kopczak.
:14:11. > :14:19.Gives it back to Murdoch-Masila. And it's Salford's turn to test out the
:14:20. > :14:26.Hull Kingston Rovers defence! And a chip from O'Brien... Mantellato has
:14:27. > :14:33.lost it! And it's touched down by Robert Lui! Well, the referee puts
:14:34. > :14:43.the arms in the air, he will be asking the question here.
:14:44. > :14:48.REFEREE: Can you just check whether it is lost or is it pulled out qualy
:14:49. > :14:54.Mantellato is always, you would say, safe under the high ball. The first
:14:55. > :14:58.thing they are looking for is, were they onside from the chase? And they
:14:59. > :15:06.were. Mantellato looks to have got the ball. This collision with Robert
:15:07. > :15:13.Lui... Is there a strip there? Two men in the tackle... The video for a
:15:14. > :15:18.has made his decision, and it's no try. If you just see, the
:15:19. > :15:19.right-hander Robert Lui pulls out the ball, forcing Mantellato to
:15:20. > :15:35.losing. Dobson, into the! He almost lost the
:15:36. > :15:40.ball! Regather-. He's having his shirt pulled from behind for a
:15:41. > :15:44.little too long in the end from Maurice Blair. The penalty goes
:15:45. > :15:50.Salford's way. Blair should have let go at that point. Consequently it is
:15:51. > :15:56.a penalty to Salford in a great position. And here comes Kopczak.
:15:57. > :16:01.Salford, who less than ten metres away. A try and a goal put them
:16:02. > :16:13.level again here. Dobson with the dummy. Logan Tomkins, at dummy half.
:16:14. > :16:19.The Hull Kingston Rovers defence is hanging on Gaza you would expect
:16:20. > :16:27.here. Salford will have to be clever, or a little more muscular. A
:16:28. > :16:47.step from Robert Lui. Tompkins on the line, throws it
:16:48. > :16:54.back. Robert Lui, across to Dobson. O'Brien with a long pass! And
:16:55. > :16:59.scooting in on the left-hand side is Evalds! And Salford have a second
:17:00. > :17:06.try! Early on, it look as though the game was going gets hence them. --
:17:07. > :17:14.was going against them. But boy, have they dug themselves back into
:17:15. > :17:18.this contest? Here's the penalty. That's what gave them the next set
:17:19. > :17:24.of six, and it was the last tackle once again, and rather than kick,
:17:25. > :17:34.they've run it, and that's a superb pass from O'Brien to find Evalds on
:17:35. > :17:41.the outside of Sio. This was the money pass. A marvellous piece of
:17:42. > :17:50.handling. And a marvellous try, well finished by Niall Evalds.
:17:51. > :18:00.Any nerves not shredded yet, Hull KR fans? Gareth O'Brien with a puff of
:18:01. > :18:06.the cheeks and a glance at the sticks and a kick to draw his side
:18:07. > :18:11.level. He knows the importance, strikes it well enough... He strikes
:18:12. > :18:14.if true enough! It's ten points apiece! It's as you were, with 32
:18:15. > :18:43.minutes of the first half played. Lunt, stalking up to dummy half.
:18:44. > :18:52.Lunt, who is having a real performance here today. Support from
:18:53. > :18:58.Cockayne! And he gets the penalty. There was just a hand on his back,
:18:59. > :19:02.and Cockayne is experienced enough to make sure he went down face first
:19:03. > :19:13.again. And the referee has to give the penalty. Ten metres out. What do
:19:14. > :19:20.they do? Yes, they're going for gold. That was a lovely off-load. We
:19:21. > :19:24.thought Cockayne was over. That's a great cover tackle from Josh
:19:25. > :19:30.Griffin. Again, hand on him to prevent the quick play-the-ball. So,
:19:31. > :19:35.Josh Mantellato, this could be at a final scoring act of this first
:19:36. > :19:48.half. If he puts it over... And he has. That just steady things a
:19:49. > :19:50.little for Hull KR. They lead by 12-10 - and even the politicians are
:19:51. > :20:15.enjoying the occasion. Or are they? Logan Tomkins, coming to this
:20:16. > :20:22.left-hand side. Quick hands, that's got Evalds away! And Dobson is
:20:23. > :20:27.dragged down brilliantly by Matthew Marsh, a try saving tackle. But is
:20:28. > :20:31.it just delaying the inevitable? Hull KR have recovered superbly in
:20:32. > :20:40.defence. Salford now have one play to go. Dobson dribbles it in... And
:20:41. > :20:49.it will be a drop from underneath the sticks. And another injury. Yes,
:20:50. > :20:56.Kopczak. He had an ankle injury two weeks ago. This was a great break.
:20:57. > :21:03.What a tackle that was from Marsh. It really was a try saving tackle.
:21:04. > :21:09.They look for the space, but the scramble defence of Hull Kingston
:21:10. > :21:15.Rovers, to Mendis. -- of Hull Kingston Rovers, tremendous. Junior
:21:16. > :21:20.Sa'u has gone, Ben Murdoch-Masila has gone. Craig Kopczak has gone.
:21:21. > :21:25.That's three probably gone for the game. So Hull KR know if they could
:21:26. > :21:35.just seek out this next few minutes, it might be advantage them. Last
:21:36. > :21:44.tackle again on that Hull KR nine. Josh Griffin gets up... And catches.
:21:45. > :21:52.It's been knocked on by Salford. Handover, and much relief for the
:21:53. > :21:55.home side. That's the second set of online defence they've had to cope
:21:56. > :22:03.with, and they coped with it really well. Unless somebody comes against
:22:04. > :22:06.the odds back on the field, I think Sean Kenny on the sidelines who can
:22:07. > :22:17.provide them with any Interchange, really. Danger here yes, and
:22:18. > :22:21.Thornley cuts back on the inside. You could hear the Hull KR players
:22:22. > :22:26.calling for it, and the referee gives it, penalty to Hull KR. They
:22:27. > :22:37.did a pretty good job scrambling across there. But Burgess held down
:22:38. > :22:46.just that it too long. It gives Hull KR are great field position.
:22:47. > :22:55.Lunt stands and waits. If Hull KR are to get a score, what does that
:22:56. > :23:00.do to the spirit of Salford, who are hanging on at the moment? It's with
:23:01. > :23:13.Campese, who has almost found a path. Lunt goes left. Sio, held up
:23:14. > :23:28.just short. They have got a couple of tackles here, Hull Kingston
:23:29. > :23:36.Rovers. Here comes the sixth tackle. Horne puts the kick in! And the dive
:23:37. > :23:40.is by Thomas Minns, and I think he's got there! But it is too big a call
:23:41. > :23:49.for the referee to make. So he needs a little help. This could be a
:23:50. > :23:52.gamebreaker. Minns is claiming it, the referee on the field was
:23:53. > :23:58.thinking of giving it. Tremendous work from Graeme Horne, to put eight
:23:59. > :24:04.kick in of that weight, into the in goal area, with this pressure,
:24:05. > :24:10.that's a tremendous kick. He was certainly on-site, if the grounding
:24:11. > :24:17.is legal, it is a try. And that is a try! Well, we saw last night, you
:24:18. > :24:22.hardly need a finger on the ball. This was a lot more than that.
:24:23. > :24:29.Thomas Minns with the try. How big a moment in this season was that? And
:24:30. > :24:35.he knows his side have got problems now, battered by injuries, trailing
:24:36. > :24:45.by six, with a kick to come. It's advantage Hull Kingston Rovers. This
:24:46. > :24:51.was marvellous work, it really was. Horne, a deft kick, outstanding
:24:52. > :24:58.skill, considering the pressure of the situation. Just the little toe
:24:59. > :25:08.poke, left foot. And well finished by the makeshift winger Thomas
:25:09. > :25:16.Minns. That means a lot to them. Difference between one score and two
:25:17. > :25:20.scores difference. Mantellato puts this over, Hull Kingston Rovers are
:25:21. > :25:27.not out of sight. But they are moving a long way away from Salford!
:25:28. > :25:42.They know how big that two points might be.
:25:43. > :25:52.Peacock, back on again for another effort. He's certainly put his hand
:25:53. > :25:59.up in these trying circumstances. McIlroy, big gets. If it goes out...
:26:00. > :26:07.And it HAS gone out of! It's a 40-20! And it has put Hull Kingston
:26:08. > :26:14.Rovers from defence into attack! Ten yards from their opponentss' line.
:26:15. > :26:20.And is this the moment that the wind is taken from Salford's sales? That
:26:21. > :26:32.was a fantastic kick. Technically perfect. This could be the time.
:26:33. > :26:37.They believe in their club again, they believe in their side again.
:26:38. > :26:46.And there is every reason to believe at the moment. I think he and those
:26:47. > :26:54.around him are sensing the worst. Mat Marsh with the feed. Thornley
:26:55. > :27:09.with the first effort. Clarkson crabbing across the face of
:27:10. > :27:15.the defence. Still four tackles to go. Lunt on the inside TT who
:27:16. > :27:28.started the scoring. Adam Walker held up. Lunt again. Horne tries to
:27:29. > :27:37.do them with the footwork - not quite. Here's Peacock... What about
:27:38. > :27:44.a try for Jamie Peacock? Five tackles played, eight metres to
:27:45. > :27:52.cover in this final play. And that's a waste of a final play. I'm not
:27:53. > :27:56.sure but I think they're just saying, we will turn the ball over
:27:57. > :28:00.in the corner, 90 metres away from our own bowl line. This Salford team
:28:01. > :28:14.are really out on their feet so that the onus is on them to produce the
:28:15. > :28:18.goods. If Salford win it from here, it is an incredible effort from
:28:19. > :28:27.them, it really is. They have brother penalty. That will certainly
:28:28. > :28:38.help. Adam Walker, with the high tackle, and all of a sudden, they're
:28:39. > :28:40.on the halfway line. Here's Johnson. So, 40 metres away, five tackles
:28:41. > :28:59.remaining. Dobson puts it to O'Brien. Trying to
:29:00. > :29:07.flick it on the inside was Evalds, but it's a forward pass. Protected
:29:08. > :29:16.really well, Thomas Minns, there. He drifted across, he's put him over
:29:17. > :29:19.the sideline. Evalds could do nothing but try to off-load the
:29:20. > :29:27.ball. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, it goes forward. There are
:29:28. > :29:32.still some nerves to be twisted. Marwan Koukash, is he watching his
:29:33. > :29:41.dream disappear here? They have to score twice. The likelihood is, they
:29:42. > :29:46.are not going to score twice. But likelihood more have been contradict
:29:47. > :29:50.it in sport before. Salford keep the faith - or at least the last
:29:51. > :30:01.lingering crumbs of faith that they have. O'Brien in at dummy half...
:30:02. > :30:05.Murdoch-Masila - it look as though he had played his last a long time
:30:06. > :30:13.ago because of injury. But he's still out there. Robert Lui with the
:30:14. > :30:20.dummy. Can't slide through. We've tackles to go.
:30:21. > :30:28.This is now it for Salford. Nothing comes after this unless they can
:30:29. > :30:35.score. It is all or oblivion on this last play. Griffin halted. Niall
:30:36. > :30:40.Evalds - it is another corner! There is still time for a miracle. Niall
:30:41. > :30:49.Evalds scores and Salford are back within four. They have a kick to
:30:50. > :30:56.come, and still a minute ago. It was all or nothing, this play. Look at
:30:57. > :31:02.Josh Griffith. -- Josh Griffin. He created enough space on the outside
:31:03. > :31:09.for Niall Evalds to go over. Off-loads to the wing man. It is a
:31:10. > :31:18.great try. There is the conversion. The kick, in a way, doesn't matter.
:31:19. > :31:25.Now, the edge of the seats are being tested. The referee has stopped the
:31:26. > :31:33.clock with 53 seconds left. Those 53 seconds to save their Super League
:31:34. > :31:40.status. It really is, and for Hull Kingston Rovers, it is 53 seconds to
:31:41. > :31:46.defend as never before. There is a nervous rumbling all around this
:31:47. > :31:49.stadium now. They have one set of six tackles, Salford. They started
:31:50. > :31:58.this set with 100 yards to go. They have just reduced that by 15. Can
:31:59. > :32:08.they produce a miracle? Or do Hull Kingston Rovers Hang on? It all
:32:09. > :32:11.comes down to this. Such a long season, which started in February,
:32:12. > :32:16.all those months of toils and travails. It is the last 20 seconds
:32:17. > :32:20.or so, and we still don't know who is staying up and who is going down.
:32:21. > :32:26.Salford will keep fighting. Here is Josh Griffin. He has the break! And
:32:27. > :32:32.he has Niall Evalds and support. Niall Evalds with support. Tackle
:32:33. > :32:39.puts him down. Four seconds to go. The last play here. Over the Dobson,
:32:40. > :32:46.Flanagan. The pass is out to Johnson. And Johnson scores! The
:32:47. > :32:51.most miraculous try you will ever see with a run from midfield! They
:32:52. > :32:57.were done, they were out, they went down, but look at them now! Salford
:32:58. > :33:08.are right back in it. How do you explain this? Well, I can't. They
:33:09. > :33:12.had gone. We were admiring their effort, their tenacity, they desire
:33:13. > :33:19.to stay in this division. And they have come up with that. Absolutely
:33:20. > :33:32.fantastic. Unbelievably breathless. But I game like this -- but a game
:33:33. > :33:38.like this should finish like this. Niall Evaldsed tackle. Look at the
:33:39. > :33:42.composure shown by this Salford side. They knew it was the last play
:33:43. > :33:46.and that it was for their Super League lives, and they have come up
:33:47. > :33:59.with skills and a finish like that. What a great try! It is all square,
:34:00. > :34:02.18-18. A kick to win it. Gareth O'Brien, never mind the Million
:34:03. > :34:08.Pound Game, this is the million pound cake. If he puts this over,
:34:09. > :34:10.Salford have just created an absolute miracle. If he misses,
:34:11. > :34:20.we're going to golden point extra time. They focuses all on one man.
:34:21. > :34:26.The kick that means a million is missed. The hooter sounded a long
:34:27. > :34:33.time ago. We are into extra time to try to settle this. How do you get
:34:34. > :34:40.through this now? I don't know how we got to this situation. Salford
:34:41. > :34:44.looked absolutely out for the count, and Griffin's caused problems all
:34:45. > :34:50.the time. That was where the initial break was made, then transferred out
:34:51. > :34:58.to Johnson. It built to the million pound cake. Fortunately for Hull, he
:34:59. > :35:07.dragged it wide. The coaches are out there, they will be earning their
:35:08. > :35:14.money now. It will be a matter of composure and who is going to grab
:35:15. > :35:20.that first million pound point. This is not sport, this is torture! There
:35:21. > :35:25.are the two owners, together in arms. They are going for exactly the
:35:26. > :35:31.same thing here. It is a shared the motion of desperation, frustration,
:35:32. > :35:40.anxiety. Just disbelief spreading all around this stadium. Nobody
:35:41. > :35:42.knows where this is going. Rip up all the predictions, whatever you
:35:43. > :35:53.thought you knew about sport. Think again. Salford have defied the laws
:35:54. > :35:55.of physics, almost, to put themselves in this situation. A drop
:35:56. > :36:09.goal now we'll win it for either side. Nobody has left, nobody is
:36:10. > :36:17.leaving. Tompkins in at dummy half. We had written the epitaph on this
:36:18. > :36:27.game a long time ago for Robert Lui. Still going. Tackle number five is
:36:28. > :36:41.reached. O brightening is -- O'Brien is going for the drop goal. Has he
:36:42. > :36:48.got a? He had! Eight top goal. Unbelievably, Salford have picked
:36:49. > :36:53.themselves up and they walk again. James Webster wonders what has just
:36:54. > :37:03.happened. What has just happened? What a drop goal. To execute that
:37:04. > :37:13.skill at this stage of this contest is unbelievable. We've done it! It
:37:14. > :37:17.was almost a 50 yard drop goal, 48 metres away from the upper right,
:37:18. > :37:30.and it is absolutely flying through. And doesn't he know it. Salford
:37:31. > :37:37.fans celebrate, the rest of the ground utterly deflated. Salford
:37:38. > :37:42.stay up, but Hull Kingston Rovers cannot believe what has just
:37:43. > :37:48.befallen them. It has taken golden point extra time to relegate Hull
:37:49. > :37:55.Kingston Rovers. It is Salford who survive. And, boy, that was a work
:37:56. > :37:59.of fiction! It is nothing more than we deserve. We deserved to stay in
:38:00. > :38:04.Super League. I am not going to talk about the politics, but listen, I am
:38:05. > :38:08.back next year, and you haven't seen anything. You will see more of me
:38:09. > :38:19.next year. You are definitely staying put? After this, do you
:38:20. > :38:22.expect me to walk away? It is typified by our great determination.
:38:23. > :38:26.We have been driving hard and we don't give up on anything, or was
:38:27. > :38:32.pushed through. We have shown what we are as a group, really. We had
:38:33. > :38:36.some injuries which hurt us and we had to shuffle around. Salford did
:38:37. > :38:42.as well. It was a high-quality game and both teams had a lot at stake.
:38:43. > :38:48.High-quality, considering so much was at stake. I am coming towards
:38:49. > :38:54.the end of my career, so it doesn't hit much as home to me. It is more
:38:55. > :38:58.the other guys that I feel for. I tried everything I could for the
:38:59. > :39:05.site today. That was a heck of a drop goal. That wasn't the plan. I
:39:06. > :39:16.had a strong breeze so I decided to have a crack. I really do feel for
:39:17. > :39:22.the Hull boys. Two teams, both battling for the place. We are full
:39:23. > :39:26.of respect. We play hard all year, and it is a real physical game, and
:39:27. > :39:29.for it to come down to one game where your job is on the line, it is
:39:30. > :39:35.not a nice thing. I want to wish them all the best. What is the
:39:36. > :39:43.future, do you build from scratch? I don't have a clue. That is what
:39:44. > :39:51.happens with rugby league. They run a system where there is nothing
:39:52. > :40:00.underneath it. The RFL somehow have a really good idea of what is going
:40:01. > :40:04.to happen. You get really good entertainment, and you put lots of
:40:05. > :40:09.people's lives and futures under the pump. That is the way it is. Would
:40:10. > :40:15.you like to see the system changed? It is hard, because there should be
:40:16. > :40:22.away into top flight. It is difficult. I have a dressing room
:40:23. > :40:26.full of wives and kids in tears, and it's tough to deal with. What might
:40:27. > :40:37.you hope you will be of the future to sort this out? I would like to
:40:38. > :40:46.be. -- you hope you will be here for the future to sort this out? It is
:40:47. > :40:58.for the board to decide. Wow! Just wow! I agree. When Terry Campese
:40:59. > :41:01.nailed the points near the end, I thought that was the kind of
:41:02. > :41:06.performance that would keep them in Super League.
:41:07. > :41:12.That was some drop goal, wasn't it? Hears about 50 metres out from the
:41:13. > :41:17.try line and the goal post itself. He could have put a kick deep into
:41:18. > :41:22.their corner and force them to come out from their own half, but he went
:41:23. > :41:31.for it. He nailed it, absolutely nailed it. They will be talking
:41:32. > :41:37.about that, though supporters -- those supporters, for years to come.
:41:38. > :41:42.The emotions that are flying around the stadium at the moment, the coach
:41:43. > :41:49.says he will stay put. You feel for the Hull Kingston Rovers people.
:41:50. > :41:52.Both sets of players gave everything, and clearly, you can
:41:53. > :41:58.hear, the atmosphere is still electric around here. I suppose that
:41:59. > :42:04.was the ambition of Super League in creating this Million Pound Game.
:42:05. > :42:09.What will happen now for Hull was mac it is difficult to dust yourself
:42:10. > :42:13.off and pick yourself up, but you have to. It has to come from the
:42:14. > :42:22.top. There has to be a rallying cry tomorrow morning, saying, we have to
:42:23. > :42:26.build up again. We felt like we had control for 79 minutes today. The
:42:27. > :42:30.nature of sport, the wonderful television reality programme that
:42:31. > :42:33.sport is, absolutely brilliant, but it does throw up that sort of
:42:34. > :42:39.adversity. We had to get stronger. They have been there before, Hull.
:42:40. > :42:44.They have picked themselves up and grown again. We have had incredible
:42:45. > :42:51.drama here, but we've had incredible drama, too, in the play-off
:42:52. > :43:00.semifinals. It is Warrington, ten metres out. 30
:43:01. > :43:03.minutes played. Neither try line has been breached yet, but as good a
:43:04. > :43:16.chance is Warrington have had so far from this position. Taken on by
:43:17. > :43:24.Sims, it's Clark. Looking for the runners, behind the ball. It was a
:43:25. > :43:30.question of whether he was shepherded through there. I don't
:43:31. > :43:42.think he does run the shepherd. Both men made the tackle. The try is
:43:43. > :43:52.given. He was certainly short. A try has been given.
:43:53. > :44:04.Saint Helens, looking left again. A good ball away by Turner. Swift on
:44:05. > :44:08.the inside. That is a wonderfully crafted try for Johnny Lomax to
:44:09. > :44:18.finish. It was a thing of beauty in terms of speed and execution. Turner
:44:19. > :44:22.gets on the outside. Sucks the winger in, slips away. The defender
:44:23. > :44:30.doesn't get to him, which commits the full-back, and then Saint Helens
:44:31. > :44:37.scored. They are missing men out here to create a gap. The throw goes
:44:38. > :44:48.to Evans. But he runs into a brick wall. They try again. Two tackles to
:44:49. > :44:53.go. The passing is good, but Payton can't keep it alive. This is the
:44:54. > :45:11.last. Rushford goes for dummy half and finds a way over. Really sharp
:45:12. > :45:15.work from Stefan Ratchford. Here come Warrington, a try here might be
:45:16. > :45:26.conclusive. Although the Ross still 17 minutes left to play. Sims has
:45:27. > :45:35.had a good game. Hemant Hill had played extremely well. -- although
:45:36. > :45:42.there are still 17 minutes. Todd line am dives again. His two tries
:45:43. > :45:50.last week helped his side lift the league leaders shield. Has this put
:45:51. > :45:57.them into the Grand Final? -- Lineham.
:45:58. > :46:08.Greenwood will have a go. The pass was slow, too slow. Less than two
:46:09. > :46:23.minutes. It will go from dummy half. Has he got in? No try. The referee
:46:24. > :46:34.was as close as anyone. Let's have a look at this. Is that compelling?
:46:35. > :46:44.You can see the white line and you can see the ball. I think you have
:46:45. > :46:50.to give it. It is a node try. A shake of the head from Kieron
:46:51. > :47:05.Cunningham. Pero feels he has been robbed of a try. -- Hainaut mac -- a
:47:06. > :47:12.no try. Our defence has let us down from time to time. They have showed
:47:13. > :47:18.a lot of character to night. Today everyone will talk about decisions
:47:19. > :47:28.and video refereeing decisions, and not looking at certain aspects for
:47:29. > :47:36.their tries, ruling Dom's try out. That is the sport. You can't take
:47:37. > :47:39.away anything from what Warrington have done. They have been brilliant
:47:40. > :47:53.for the last few weeks. All credit to them. I wish them the best.
:47:54. > :48:07.Out to Smith and driven in by Crosby. Powell, waiting again. Wide
:48:08. > :48:14.to Tierney, who might just have found a way over the line. No need
:48:15. > :48:18.for a referral. What a start for Wigan. That is a very good finish by
:48:19. > :48:39.Tierney. A very good finish. Gelling, cutting back in. He offers
:48:40. > :48:50.something very different in those outside backs. Wigan's position is
:48:51. > :48:59.good. Tackles to play with. Tierney! Same formula, same outcome. His
:49:00. > :49:05.second of the night. He won't be happy with the defence. One stays
:49:06. > :49:18.up, one stays back. One in, all in. Very good play from Wigan.
:49:19. > :49:33.Sixth tackle coming up. Sure looks spins wide. -- Shorrocks. He almost
:49:34. > :49:42.dug a tunnel to get to that try line, but did it come up and touch
:49:43. > :49:50.down? He says try. Does he lose the ball here? A good finish. That is a
:49:51. > :49:55.terrific finish, isn't it? Absolutely sensational. Here is the
:49:56. > :50:00.decision. Try is given. Timely as well. That will be the last act of
:50:01. > :50:20.the first-half, John Bateman's tried. -- try. Sarge 's and comes
:50:21. > :50:21.forward to meet him. They might have claimed their first try of the
:50:22. > :50:39.night, Hull. No conclusive evidence against, so
:50:40. > :50:46.the on field decision remains. How Hull got a foothold back in this
:50:47. > :50:55.game? The Hull fans are making a racket. Too many defenders there to
:50:56. > :51:06.attempt the pass. Wigan have been given nowhere to go. Bowden,
:51:07. > :51:17.stepping in and stepping up. Short and flat, and over he goes, Liam
:51:18. > :51:22.Woods crashes in. -- Liam Watts. Boy, do we have a cup tie now!
:51:23. > :51:26.Yellow light that was brilliant from Liam Watts. That's where they've had
:51:27. > :51:29.success this year, from their forwards. Tearing everyone up,
:51:30. > :51:48.piling in and going forward. It is lost by Tierney. Was there a
:51:49. > :51:59.touch there? The referee says, play on. They will chase hard. They will
:52:00. > :52:05.not catch. He scores! But I don't think that's the end of it. I think
:52:06. > :52:17.the referee might be asking a couple of questions here. It might be a try
:52:18. > :52:30.at either end! They are trying to work out if the ball was grounded.
:52:31. > :52:35.Let's watch. Oh! Is that enough from Michaels? Sounds like there is a
:52:36. > :52:42.finger on it. Here is a big, big decision in the context of the
:52:43. > :52:47.season. Michaels is given the try. That defies belief in some quarters.
:52:48. > :52:53.It will be greeted with triumph in others. You have to credit Hull,
:52:54. > :53:18.they have pulled their socks up and fought their way back in this game.
:53:19. > :53:29.The sixth tackle coming up. Flex it away. Powell, with a try! It's
:53:30. > :53:37.Wigan, back with the lead. Great play by Smith. It is an off-load,
:53:38. > :53:48.and Powell is there to support him, putting Wigan back in front. Crosby
:53:49. > :53:57.tries to drive over. A try WinZip are certain for Wigan. The clock is
:53:58. > :54:04.on their side. Anthony Galligan - Wigan are going to Old Trafford!
:54:05. > :54:17.Galligan knows that. His team-mates know that. -- Gelling. I am
:54:18. > :54:22.smothered in disappointment tonight. In the main, I think we have been
:54:23. > :54:26.consistent this year. We're not one season wonders. I think the group
:54:27. > :54:30.will stay together. We will be better for that. We have won so many
:54:31. > :54:37.games this year with last-gasp tries. I am used to it. We have got
:54:38. > :54:43.a huge challenge next week with Warrington. What did you make of the
:54:44. > :54:47.two play-off semifinals? A bit tense but entertaining nonetheless.
:54:48. > :54:53.Warrington, an element of controversy around some decisions.
:54:54. > :54:57.They kept playing and got over the line. With the second one, you have
:54:58. > :55:04.to give credit to Wigan, who looked strong and fresh. While the Hull
:55:05. > :55:10.side-mounted is incredible comeback in the second half, they can hold
:55:11. > :55:20.their heads up over what they nearly achieved. How do you see the final
:55:21. > :55:26.going, Robbie? Wigan have the luxury of being under the radar a little
:55:27. > :55:30.bit. We've been talking about Hull, who have been leading the charge
:55:31. > :55:33.since the start of the season, and Wigan have come up underneath. If
:55:34. > :55:40.they can continue with Friday night's form, things might tend in
:55:41. > :55:43.their direction. Warrington have some big game players. I think it
:55:44. > :55:48.will come down to which team stands up to it on the night. Wigan kind of
:55:49. > :55:55.going as underdogs, that they? With all those kids, will there be a
:55:56. > :56:03.freedom for them? I have never gone for underdogs or over dogs in a
:56:04. > :56:09.final. Warrington are explosive, but Wigan have Ben flower back in the
:56:10. > :56:12.team. Their form has been decent. Running into the final, a lot of
:56:13. > :56:17.youthful players there, so they will have the energy. I think Warrington
:56:18. > :56:24.will get Marmite. What might we will have highlights of that -- we will
:56:25. > :56:30.have highlights of that on Sunday the 9th of October at 5pm. It is now
:56:31. > :56:31.time for some international action here at the end of the domestic
:56:32. > :56:57.season on the BBC. Our coverage of the four nations
:56:58. > :57:02.starts on Saturday the 29th of October, with live coverage of
:57:03. > :57:07.England versus New Zealand. We go on air at 1:15pm, and we will have
:57:08. > :57:11.highlights, and the build-up of Australia versus Scotland. Could you
:57:12. > :57:16.sum up what this afternoon has meant, has been about? The good and
:57:17. > :57:20.bad of sport - unbelievable drama. I don't think anything else in the
:57:21. > :57:26.world could have created the atmosphere we have had and the
:57:27. > :57:34.drama. Right at the end, one goal to separate two teams. The rewards and
:57:35. > :57:39.the downfall are there. It is what we play sport for, all summed up in
:57:40. > :57:45.one occasion. What about you? The desperation. There are thousands of
:57:46. > :57:50.Hull fans. If you look into their eyes, it sums up what this game has
:57:51. > :57:54.been about. It has not been about success but survival today. Sadly,
:57:55. > :58:01.one team wasn't going to survive, and that was whole Kingston Rovers.
:58:02. > :58:09.It has been excited -- Hull Kingston Rovers. We talked about it all year,
:58:10. > :58:15.it has become a final that is not a final. It is exciting. It has been
:58:16. > :58:18.quite some afternoon. Salford will be in Super League in 2017. From
:58:19. > :58:44.Robbie, Brian and me, goodbye. COMMENTATOR: And there is Salford's
:58:45. > :58:47.response. That is one of the best tries you will ever see! It is
:58:48. > :58:54.absolutely unbelievable!
