:00:31. > :00:47.Everybody is saying, "Go, go, go" and he goes, and a try!

:00:48. > :00:48.Welcome to week two of the Rugby League World Cup. Already, it's

:00:49. > :00:50.crunch time for some of the teams. Welcome to week two of the Rugby

:00:51. > :00:57.Wales were at must-win time - nothing less than a victory over the

:00:58. > :01:03.United States today would do. After stunning Tonga, Scotland were

:01:04. > :01:04.looking for a repeat this afternoon as they took on the fancied

:01:05. > :01:07.Italians. Australia have been looking

:01:08. > :01:14.ominously good. They were up against Fiji and the elements last night.

:01:15. > :01:28.England were back with a bang against Ireland. We look at what is

:01:29. > :01:32.working well for McNamara's men. I am delighted to say we have a wealth

:01:33. > :01:36.of international experience in the studio with the citizen's and

:01:37. > :01:42.England star, John Wilkin, the former Great Britain coach, Brian

:01:43. > :01:47.Noble, and the England scrum half Ritchie Myler, who is recovering

:01:48. > :01:58.from ankle surgery. In a moment, the drama of Scotland against Italy, but

:01:59. > :02:01.we start in Wrexham where the maths were already straightforward for the

:02:02. > :02:05.Wales coach. They had to beat the USA Tomahawks to stay in the

:02:06. > :02:13.tournament. A crowd of 45 had cheered the Welch to a half-time

:02:14. > :02:16.lead against the Italians at the Millennium Stadium last weekend. But

:02:17. > :02:22.they ran out of steam, and yes, Sir continue Harris knows -- iestyn

:02:23. > :02:31.knows that a win will only do. They were fired up for a win in

:02:32. > :02:32.their World Cup debut against the Cook Islands.

:02:33. > :02:40.Great spirit and entertainment provided by the locals here.

:02:41. > :02:49.Communities getting behind the big show that is the Rugby League World

:02:50. > :02:56.Cup. Wales have to win today. Onlyone advance is from group D. If

:02:57. > :03:01.Wales lose today, they can't catch America, who have two wins. The

:03:02. > :03:11.Tomahawk side for today, lots of Australian-born players there but

:03:12. > :03:15.many now plying their trade in the United States.

:03:16. > :03:15.Wales with possession, they need to start well.

:03:16. > :03:17.Frizell is inside. Down that left-hand side. Wales have

:03:18. > :03:29.been really impressive. This is the chance. Big contact was

:03:30. > :03:32.inside. He said I am not giving it to you. Roets scored the try for

:03:33. > :03:41.Wales. He was looking at his captain. He said, "No, I've done it

:03:42. > :03:46.myself." He makes the initial run down the sideline. Williams is on

:03:47. > :03:48.his inside. His skipper, Roets scored on his outside to score the

:03:49. > :03:59.option. Great decision from Williams, you have to say.

:04:00. > :04:04.The men in red are out of second gear now, because it was a

:04:05. > :04:11.stuttering performance early. Beautiful start. And away they go.

:04:12. > :04:13.Elliott - that was a - something has gone on.

:04:14. > :04:20.They say one of the Americans that have been held back here, in fact,

:04:21. > :04:28.it Pieterson taken out by Webster. Got him right across the face.

:04:29. > :04:29.Just three minutes away from the line.

:04:30. > :04:37.Someone should remind him it's an era of cameras! Newton goes over for

:04:38. > :04:46.the Tomahawks! I reckon they got off at the White

:04:47. > :04:50.House. It is 4-4,20 minutes top. How many times has Newton done this in

:04:51. > :04:59.his career, two American players running a defender, here he goes,

:05:00. > :05:03.great ball from Paulo. He can't come up with a defensive play. Catch me

:05:04. > :05:11.if you can. Here is Priestly, and here is Paulo. He decides to go shot

:05:12. > :05:15.this time. Almost got away from the tackle of Patrick.

:05:16. > :05:21.Paulo again. Great ball. Pieterson, scores in the corner. A salute for

:05:22. > :05:35.side-show Bob. The Americans have their second try.

:05:36. > :05:37.Peterson with a little bit of space on the outside. He's thrilled to get

:05:38. > :05:47.it over the line there. The Americans have been a bit smart,

:05:48. > :05:52.taken their inside backs in there. They nearly just released, didn't

:05:53. > :05:54.they on that inside ball. And now, last tackle 30 metres away,

:05:55. > :06:01.and Paulo's ball, Evans is going to go for it. No pressure. He has lost

:06:02. > :06:11.it. Kicked up by Howard I think it may have been. Scooped up there.

:06:12. > :06:17.Close to the line, it is a full set to work with. They won't even need

:06:18. > :06:26.one. The man, yes, Colin the man. A shocker. He drops it.

:06:27. > :06:31.All he has to do is catch. Disorganised Welsh line because they

:06:32. > :06:41.are trying to recover from the dropped ball of Evans.

:06:42. > :06:53.The man of the moment, Joseph Paulo. Now the defence of Wales will be put

:06:54. > :07:00.to the test. Samoa is still the dummy half. This

:07:01. > :07:13.is him going as fast as he can. His strength has carried him overt line.

:07:14. > :07:21.He has had very little to do today up in the box. He has now been

:07:22. > :07:27.called into play. It looks sufficient depth there for

:07:28. > :07:28.me. We can run that through to the ground.

:07:29. > :07:36.No drama with the instruction. Granted, this is in slow motion. The

:07:37. > :07:40.ball is on the ground at that point. Ben, we've got a try.

:07:41. > :08:01.Well, maybe Air Force One is getting warmed up.

:08:02. > :08:10.He was really creasing the line. The run picked up and front rower on

:08:11. > :08:14.front rower. Paulo knows that this is just a

:08:15. > :08:16.massive chance. A chance to drive a sword into the

:08:17. > :08:21.heart of Wales here. Paulo gets up pushing the two. What a go, and

:08:22. > :08:23.Priestly charges through. Links up with Newton.

:08:24. > :08:29.Newton scores a double. The son of a golfing champion, born

:08:30. > :08:34.in South Carolina. Cue the fireworks! Priestly is the

:08:35. > :08:43.architect here. James just touches him. It's not a game of touch. Run

:08:44. > :08:47.straight past Jordan James, Priestly, found Newton on the

:08:48. > :08:49.outside. How much it mean to these Tomahawks. Priestly was straight

:08:50. > :08:58.past. The front row there and gives the ball to Newton who would have

:08:59. > :09:03.scored an easier try in his career. Wales, they started poorly, they

:09:04. > :09:05.warmed to the contest. It was only a very limited time.

:09:06. > :09:13.The rest of the game has been frustrating to watch. Here is a run,

:09:14. > :09:19.there is open pasture. They have to finish it off and away they go with

:09:20. > :09:21.Roets. He will score their second try. There is four and a half

:09:22. > :09:33.minutes to go. It's 24-8 but they needed that ten minutes ago.

:09:34. > :09:35.Nice early ball. Does it mean anything in the scheme

:09:36. > :09:43.of things? Probably not. The Wrexham fans are entertaining

:09:44. > :09:52.themselves as Lupton, now he feeds it out. Evans has got it. Gives the

:09:53. > :10:04.winger an early ball. Williams finds his way to the try line. He four

:10:05. > :10:07.metres short. Last tackle for bails. Evans, Lupton, goes into kick, goes

:10:08. > :10:09.low under the post, they will score! The guy immediately to the right in

:10:10. > :10:18.the centre under the post looks as though he is onside, so let's roll

:10:19. > :10:23.it through, please. That's a try. It's going to come up

:10:24. > :10:36.there, yes. Confirmation on the board.

:10:37. > :10:48.Now there's just over one minute remaining, and Wales are back inside

:10:49. > :10:50.their 40, giving their fans just a sniff, and that's all it is, nothing

:10:51. > :10:58.more than that. It is nothing they can touch the comeback. Last tackle

:10:59. > :11:04.for Wales. I dare say, their last play to do anything. The

:11:05. > :11:05.kick-through, they've got the bounce, the centre has passed it.

:11:06. > :11:13.Play on! For the corner. Player is taken down. They came off the legs

:11:14. > :11:21.of peterson, you could have almost said six to go. Wales finish with a

:11:22. > :11:25.flourish but it is not going to be enough.

:11:26. > :11:32.Speechless, to be honest. For those guys to perform like that, after a

:11:33. > :11:35.four-day turnaround quite unbelievable, so, the players have

:11:36. > :11:40.bought into what we are doing, and they're having a great time at the

:11:41. > :11:47.moment. I think you can see the joy on their faces. They deserve

:11:48. > :11:51.everything they get. There are a lot of things we didn't do well tonight,

:11:52. > :11:55.and I would just like to congratulate USA on a very good

:11:56. > :12:05.performance. They played exceptionally well and they deserve

:12:06. > :12:10.the result. From us now, we've got to make sure that we recover very

:12:11. > :12:20.well and give the best account of ourselves in the last group game.

:12:21. > :12:25.Can you make it three wins out of three? We're going to enjoy tonight,

:12:26. > :12:34.and then we will do a bit of rehab and get ready for Scotland. I don't

:12:35. > :12:36.know what day it is at the moment. Next Thursday. Thank you. Very

:12:37. > :12:43.honest assessment from both coaches, confirmation there that Wales can't

:12:44. > :12:50.get through. How disappointed will Iestyn be, especially when you look

:12:51. > :12:54.at the group he was in? You thought that Wales were odds on coming in

:12:55. > :13:05.that group. It is a sad time for the Welsh people. They will be kicking

:13:06. > :13:07.themselves, because there was a lot of errors. They left it too Leyte

:13:08. > :13:15.end. Yes, a little bit too much, too late, if that is the right

:13:16. > :13:21.expression. They didn't execute very well, five or six opportunities to

:13:22. > :13:30.put the points on the board, to get the breathing space to get the USA

:13:31. > :13:36.right at the end, you would expect th two games in four days, and Terry

:13:37. > :13:40.saying that the third one is coming up shortly as well. I think, yes,

:13:41. > :13:46.they will be kicking themselves the Welsh because they missed out on an

:13:47. > :13:53.opportunity. As Iestyn, take nothing away from the USA. How fantastic

:13:54. > :14:02.they've been. Yes, Terry Matteson has been doing a great job there. I

:14:03. > :14:04.think it is fantastic for the game. Naturally, I think they're people

:14:05. > :14:05.that like contact sports, NFL is such a big part of their sporting

:14:06. > :14:10.world, I think there's space for Rugby League in America, so watch

:14:11. > :14:19.this space. A key man for them, Joseph Paulo was immense. My word,

:14:20. > :14:23.everything they touched, he touched, and Newton, and the two American

:14:24. > :14:25.attackers that one Welsh defender, the second pass there, we see skill

:14:26. > :14:27.and speed of execution to map Peterson and he is in charge of the

:14:28. > :14:31.bomb. This is the game-breaker for me. This is 8-four here but not only

:14:32. > :14:38.in charge of the bomb, the very next play, he gets himself out in

:14:39. > :14:43.position and gets himself over the line for a good try, and he's really

:14:44. > :14:48.pivotal. He was on Tuesday night down in Bristol. He was absolutely

:14:49. > :14:57.awesome and Man of the Match on that occasion. Also people that you can

:14:58. > :14:59.find some heroes in this World Cup. He certainly has put his name

:15:00. > :15:01.forward. He is playing with so much confidence, and confidence is that

:15:02. > :15:02.one ingredient and sport, when you've got it, it can make all the

:15:03. > :15:15.difference. Paulo has certainly got confidence at the moment. What is so

:15:16. > :15:17.impressive about them, Terry didn't know half the squad, didn't know

:15:18. > :15:19.each other, but they're playing like a team? Yes, played three games in

:15:20. > :15:20.nine days. It's going to be outstanding, and they do come out

:15:21. > :15:26.that group and win it, win the group in a good position. What can Iestyn

:15:27. > :15:36.hope to get out the final game? They need a big performance. A slight

:15:37. > :15:39.disappointment for all of us. I know there will be a crowd down at the

:15:40. > :15:46.Knoll down there there in their last group game. They've got to perform

:15:47. > :15:53.in the group game and put a few wrongs right. They haven't quite

:15:54. > :15:56.executed the way they wanted to do, and if you had said at the start of

:15:57. > :15:58.the competition to Iestyn we've got the USA and Italy, he would rub his

:15:59. > :16:02.hands and think there is a straight run-through. They will be

:16:03. > :16:08.disappointed. In a moment, Australia against fee bi- but next to

:16:09. > :16:13.Workington for Scotland against Italy, with both sides in touching

:16:14. > :16:14.distance of the quarterfinals. In their opening match against the

:16:15. > :16:16.highly rated Tongans, the combination of opportunism , boot of

:16:17. > :16:19.Danny Brough, and some tight calls going their way, took Scotland to a

:16:20. > :16:28.famous win. Italy's opening victory over Wales

:16:29. > :16:30.was positively laid back in comparison.

:16:31. > :16:31.Their side is packed with NRL experience and Guerra looks star of

:16:32. > :16:47.the performance. I think Brough will just be happy to

:16:48. > :16:54.get the two points and then start again because it is been quite

:16:55. > :17:07.scrappy so far. A fresh set of six. Right in front

:17:08. > :17:12.of this fix now. Here is Brough. Into Wilkes. He bounces and pinballs

:17:13. > :17:18.his way. Two metres away. Ian Henderson in a dummy half trying

:17:19. > :17:19.to squeeze their way under the sticks.

:17:20. > :17:23.Still held out. The Italian defence is holding firm. Brough tries to get

:17:24. > :17:33.the ball away quickly but under too much pressure.

:17:34. > :17:35.It rolls back, but they've got a fresh set of sixes. Russell runs

:17:36. > :17:47.through. It's not Russell. Driving for the line! Has he got the ball

:17:48. > :17:58.down? The referee is going to have a look at this one.

:17:59. > :18:02.This is a try. Russell scores. Four points for Scotland.

:18:03. > :18:42.And for Steve McCormack's side. There are legs in it there. He has

:18:43. > :18:52.dived through. Scotland could have two quick tries

:18:53. > :19:28.in a couple of minutes. Now with Tramonte.

:19:29. > :19:33.Nasso has a luck from dummy half. He drops it back through the hands

:19:34. > :19:46.Ghetti. Fending off the ball is Snowden.

:19:47. > :19:47.Not an easy man to stop in his tracks.

:19:48. > :20:01.Little kick through this time. Maybe there's not enough on it, but there

:20:02. > :20:09.is. We have got to have a look at this, though. It wasn't the tidiest

:20:10. > :20:13.of kicks. Has Seraldo got the scoreboard ticking? He's onside.

:20:14. > :20:21.Slowly. OK.

:20:22. > :20:27.OK, that's a try. He scores Italy's first try for their second game in

:20:28. > :20:31.the campaign. Very influential in their qualifying campaign.

:20:32. > :20:42.Our video referee says that it was successful. Ten points is the

:20:43. > :20:58.difference now. Scotland are defending yet again.

:20:59. > :21:00.Using the - they try to wear down that Scottish defence. Santi with

:21:01. > :21:02.another drive. Nasso brings it himself. Looks to squeeze it home.

:21:03. > :21:07.The pressure has paid off, and Italy, the try given, and Nasso,

:21:08. > :21:13.they knocked, and they knocked, and eventually the door opens, and down

:21:14. > :21:17.they crash it over the line. They fought well and got themselves

:21:18. > :21:24.back in the game. Nasso a chunky fellow, proved hard to stop there on

:21:25. > :21:31.the line. Good valuable few metres to set up

:21:32. > :21:33.the final play. Brough with the kick.

:21:34. > :21:43.The sky gets darker as the ball drops back in. They've got space on

:21:44. > :21:47.the right-hand side. Can they spread the ball back inside? They can. Addy

:21:48. > :21:51.touches down in the second minute of the second half.

:21:52. > :22:01.Hellewell has got the ball away, and it was a great ball out wide. Carter

:22:02. > :22:12.there with the drive. He has thrown the ball back to Danny Addy, so a

:22:13. > :22:16.great start for the Scots. At the managed to keep him in the

:22:17. > :22:20.field of play. So they look for the runners now,

:22:21. > :22:28.Italy. Santi takes his side up towards a

:22:29. > :22:33.few metres away. A little scamper from dummy half. Nasso has got the

:22:34. > :22:41.ball down. He has got another one. Italy equalising that early score

:22:42. > :22:46.from Scotland in the second half, and Nasso again just spotting the

:22:47. > :22:47.opportunity to getting the legs going and diving over the line from

:22:48. > :23:05.close range. Wallace fires it out. He switches it

:23:06. > :23:14.back inside. Ben Hellewell, a touchdown for Scotland. Lovely work

:23:15. > :23:18.on that right-hand side. If you look at it again, Fisher, he

:23:19. > :23:22.shows it on the inside a couple of times, the ball out to the back

:23:23. > :23:36.there to Pete Wallace, Hellewell back on the inside for a very, very

:23:37. > :23:39.good four-pointer for the Scots. Snowden was tackled inside that 20

:23:40. > :23:44.as they drive again. Can they fire it out? They can.

:23:45. > :23:46.They're in the corner. Centrone touching down for the Italians. It

:23:47. > :23:51.is try-for-try in the second half so far.

:23:52. > :24:00.Nasso again wants to keep it moving. Tries to keep his tempo up. Nasso

:24:01. > :24:01.has come back with it in support as well. Trying to stretch this

:24:02. > :24:10.Scotland defence. Holding firm, though.

:24:11. > :24:16.Covering defenders on this left-hand side of the defence. It is around,

:24:17. > :24:29.though. We're going to have a look at this one, I think. Fourth try of

:24:30. > :24:33.his Italian career, in his eighth game.

:24:34. > :24:35.Brough now with a little - he spotted a bit of space. He regains

:24:36. > :24:49.the ball. He has it. The tackle is complete, but a 25-metre run from

:24:50. > :24:50.Brough, he is opening things up. Here is Henderson, throwing it back

:24:51. > :24:52.through the hands they go to Wallace. They've got him on the

:24:53. > :25:00.right-hand side and they're in. Scotland with Ben Hellewell on the

:25:01. > :25:05.right-hand side. Regaining possession, but lovely

:25:06. > :25:07.hands, and into the right-hand corner. Great hands from all players

:25:08. > :25:11.there out on the field, just out wide to Hellewell to finish the try

:25:12. > :25:22.off. Brough with a difficult kickover.

:25:23. > :25:24.It is with his left boot. Is it good or has the pressure been too much?

:25:25. > :25:32.What a finish. 30 points apiece. A bit of a nail-biter. Toing and

:25:33. > :25:40.froing, a great effort by Scotland, and again our boys have shown great

:25:41. > :25:42.character to come back from the deficit they had, always clawing to

:25:43. > :25:50.the back of the game. The support we have had while we've been in west

:25:51. > :25:57.Cumbria is unbelievable. We would like to thank everybody from west

:25:58. > :25:59.Cumbria, from our lads, sensational effort in the end. What another

:26:00. > :26:06.great game. It is a measure of this World Cup that I am guessing most of

:26:07. > :26:12.us when we looked at the fixtures before it started, would not have

:26:13. > :26:15.picked Italy versus Scotland as a really good game. Yes, I think a

:26:16. > :26:22.measure of success of the World Cup so far has been the nations we

:26:23. > :26:28.assumed that wouldn't have performed so well which have exceeded our

:26:29. > :26:30.expectations and pulled out fantastic performances. We look at

:26:31. > :26:31.Italy in that opening game against Wales, some really stand-out

:26:32. > :26:36.performances from them individually in that team and throughout the

:26:37. > :26:53.tournament. We look at the likes of Fiji, Tonga. These nations that have

:26:54. > :26:59.really stepped up probably due to the influence of the NRL but it

:27:00. > :27:07.shows you that Rugby League is trying to spread and slowly cast our

:27:08. > :27:14.net further. Scotland very much one of those teams that's stood up and

:27:15. > :27:32.stepped up. One of the home nations that have stamped their mark in west

:27:33. > :27:34.Cumbria, there are two big crowds, 9,000 each time, and they've got

:27:35. > :27:39.with behind the Scottish team and delivered. You see they're sat here

:27:40. > :27:45.thinking deservedly where they are in the position, the position

:27:46. > :27:49.they're in charge of own destiny towards the back end of this group

:27:50. > :27:51.stage, and they thoroughly deserve it. They played well. We've seen

:27:52. > :27:58.some of the tries. They don't tell the story of him that they're good

:27:59. > :28:06.but it's the quality of the work that

:28:07. > :28:20.They keep the Paul alive, and Henderson keeps the ball alive.

:28:21. > :28:25.Wallace keeps the ball alive, and Scotland keep the ball alive. They

:28:26. > :28:26.get in the corner and finish the play.

:28:27. > :28:33.He could have won it, couldn't he? He could have. What did he do wrong,

:28:34. > :28:40.there, John? You dropped plenty! I am not the man to be giving that

:28:41. > :28:42.device! Danny Brough is such a controlling influence on that

:28:43. > :28:43.Scotland team that you think they can do well. The decision-making of

:28:44. > :28:51.their team of Wallace, Brough, and Henderson, those three guys usually

:28:52. > :28:57.get it right and that is why Scotland are doing well. I know it

:28:58. > :28:59.is history, he opt today play for Scotland, the man of steel, why

:29:00. > :29:02.isn't he in England, should he not be playing for England? He chose to

:29:03. > :29:12.play for Scotland. You've got to respect that. There is a history

:29:13. > :29:15.there with his family, and he has played for Scotland previously. Do I

:29:16. > :29:17.think he could contribute to the England squad? Definitely. There is

:29:18. > :29:22.a reason why he is the man of steel, and it is that control and

:29:23. > :29:31.influence, that all-round ability with any team that he plays in, he

:29:32. > :29:33.has real value in kicking passing, and a running threat. That would fit

:29:34. > :29:35.well in any team in world rugby. Looking ahead to Thursday, Scotland

:29:36. > :29:46.versus USA, a massive game, but for the USA, that is a third game in

:29:47. > :29:52.nine days? And that is the challenge for them. Terry Paterson didn't know

:29:53. > :30:07.what day of the week it was. Both of them need it as well, don't

:30:08. > :30:12.they, because USA are not guaranteed, either? Yes, exactly.

:30:13. > :30:18.It's going to be a cracker, and hopefully it will be a sell-out

:30:19. > :30:27.again and get the fans behind it, it will be really good. It is tough,

:30:28. > :30:32.but again, when you looked at the fixtures, you really wouldn't have

:30:33. > :30:34.pinned this game as such a pivotal game USA versus Scotland? I think

:30:35. > :30:36.that is what has made, why it has captured everybody's imagination,

:30:37. > :30:39.this tournament, there are shock results, performances, superstars

:30:40. > :30:47.coming out of the woodwork that we didn't know about. Scotland have

:30:48. > :30:58.been part of that team. You look at the spine of the team, and pick up

:30:59. > :31:03.on what Richard and John has said that Russell is a confident

:31:04. > :31:05.fullback. You can't take any of these teams

:31:06. > :31:19.lightly. I would love to see it, but it is difficult for those sides to

:31:20. > :31:20.win a big game against the likes of Australia and New Zealand. They're

:31:21. > :31:26.jam-packed full of star players. It is very difficult for them, but

:31:27. > :31:34.not unachievable. We did see Italy beating - It's right. I think John

:31:35. > :31:36.has pretty much nailed it, but there's going to be a team in the

:31:37. > :31:48.semifinals that is going to have to play what we are calling the big

:31:49. > :31:51.three, if you like, Australia, New Zealand, and England. There is

:31:52. > :31:54.another team that's got to go in there. Why not Italy? It's in their

:31:55. > :32:03.own hands. Time to catch up with the favourites, Australia, who were

:32:04. > :32:06.taking on Fiji and the elements at a wind swept Langtree Park in St

:32:07. > :32:45.Helen's. Last tackle play. They take it to

:32:46. > :32:52.the short side. Another great kick. They may get the tackle count. They

:32:53. > :32:59.will. Fiji, full set. 20 minutes out from the line.

:33:00. > :33:07.Sims takes the tackle. Sims gets them close. Chance has gone up for

:33:08. > :33:11.fee bi-. The St Helen's fans have adopted Fiji as their side tonight.

:33:12. > :33:18.Penalty Fij Nine metres out, ten to the side of the posts.

:33:19. > :33:34.They didn't post a point. They got an opportunity to put their

:33:35. > :33:35.noses in front, and that is what they're going to do.

:33:36. > :33:37.They leave the kangaroos no layer. It is Fiji two, Australia zero.

:33:38. > :33:50.Changes already to Fiji. Looks like a young Willy Mason to me

:33:51. > :33:52.making the tackle here, going down low.

:33:53. > :34:02.15 metres away from the line, Australia still chasing their first

:34:03. > :34:07.points of the night, played by Marles. A lovely ball.

:34:08. > :34:13.There is a big moment for the young Canberra back-rower.

:34:14. > :34:24.He scores for Australia 15 minutes in, four points to two.

:34:25. > :34:26.With the elation on his face. The first game for Australia, and he has

:34:27. > :34:35.run under a great - he took the line or took the ball right to the line.

:34:36. > :34:44.29 minutes away from the line. Smith right out the line. That is a nice -

:34:45. > :34:57.Smith, Thurson England. Play on for the kangaroos.

:34:58. > :35:07.Greg Inglis. Beautiful! Second try to the kangaroos!

:35:08. > :35:17.Tremendous play from the Australians there.

:35:18. > :35:30.He pops it out the back, and a great try there for the Aussies.

:35:31. > :35:31.First and second kick. It is a tough on. That's going to go nowhere near

:35:32. > :35:40.the posts. Ten points to two.

:35:41. > :35:47.He shakes the head. Nice play there.

:35:48. > :35:56.Corbyn did the -- Koful rbin did the tough work there. Jennings is there!

:35:57. > :36:01.Try-scorer in the grand final. Now try-scorer here for Australia at St

:36:02. > :36:06.Helen's. Nice control and composure. Equal numbers out wide. They had

:36:07. > :36:13.numbers to the right as well. Thurston backs it for Inglis. Caught

:36:14. > :36:24.a little bit and field, going for the high tackle on Jennings.

:36:25. > :36:34.It's normally a temple with your two palms. You put them up in front of

:36:35. > :36:43.your nose and you pray. That is the advice of one of the best.

:36:44. > :36:48.Thurston! That is one of the best goals of his career!

:36:49. > :36:56.I bet he enjoyed that. He loved it. Look at the smile on the face of JT!

:36:57. > :37:07.Papalii is getting a lot of game time. Spin, and spin again. Play on

:37:08. > :37:09.is the call. Smith was on to it. Over the top for Thurston.

:37:10. > :37:14.Thurston almost away. 11 metres from the line. Last tackle. Kangaroos,

:37:15. > :37:21.Smith, one of the kickers out of play. Cherry-Evans the alternative.

:37:22. > :37:24.It's kept alive, and they will score. Morrison is over. Morris

:37:25. > :37:28.scores the try. Australia have their fourth try.

:37:29. > :37:36.Tremendous kick there from Cherry-Evans. Really well-weighted

:37:37. > :37:40.but a great leap out wide there to Hain. Looking at it again, just

:37:41. > :37:47.plenty - no pressure whatsoever on the kicker there, Cherry-Evans.

:37:48. > :37:54.There he goes, Thurston, for a second sideline conversion!

:37:55. > :38:10.Oh, what a beauty. Jonathan Thurston, a goal-kicking clinic!

:38:11. > :38:14.Thurston has got it to Jennings. Jennings has - Jennings!

:38:15. > :38:23.What was that? He has thrown a dart that's missed the board. Landed in

:38:24. > :38:30.someone's scooter glass! Thurston has been good again

:38:31. > :38:38.disappoint. This is buoyed backing into -- this is Boyd backing into

:38:39. > :38:52.the tackle there. Cherry-Evans, sprinting away.

:38:53. > :39:05.DCE, Daley Cherry-Evans scores for Australia. Their fifth try of the

:39:06. > :39:08.fight. This is beautiful play. Now for Peter.

:39:09. > :39:19.Over halfway. Here goes, he has shown enough of the two weeks to say

:39:20. > :39:23.he's going to be in the top 17. Good ball inside.

:39:24. > :39:24.He got that left arm free. Passed to Lewis.

:39:25. > :39:38.Lewis gets over for the kangaroos. But it is a try that has the DNA of

:39:39. > :39:40.Greg Inglis all over it, 32-2. England is back on the inside,

:39:41. > :39:42.brushes away from a tackle queuing up. I thought Jerry Evans might --

:39:43. > :39:58.Cherry-Evans might have got a double, but he finds Lewis.

:39:59. > :40:03.Too much speed. Beautiful Rugby League.

:40:04. > :40:07.Ritchie, it is a measure of quite how strong this Australian squad is

:40:08. > :40:16.that they can leave out their player of the year, Cooper Cronk, Billy

:40:17. > :40:22.Slater, and still you're looking at that line-up going where are the

:40:23. > :40:28.weaknesses? It is scary thinking of how many players didn't play but

:40:29. > :40:35.they still come out with a performance like that. It is the

:40:36. > :40:41.class throughout the side. And you've only got to look at from one

:40:42. > :40:45.to 17, it is quite scary, really. John Jonathan Thurston does

:40:46. > :40:58.everything that is key to Australia. He is the general on the field. His

:40:59. > :41:03.carriage, carrying it 30 times in the game.

:41:04. > :41:06.He makes good decisions. That is probably why he is the world's

:41:07. > :41:19.number one number seven, , arguably. He has got a hand off. He has

:41:20. > :41:32.already told Inglis to come on his inside as the play unfolds. You will

:41:33. > :41:40.see the inside option of Inglis. He has got the inside ball to Inglis

:41:41. > :41:46.and a short and long ball to Jennings out wide. One of the things

:41:47. > :41:50.that distinguishes Thurston from other people is that he has four

:41:51. > :41:55.options there, and he rarely takes the wrong option. Under pressure, he

:41:56. > :42:02.does the right thing. His goal-kicking in the crunch times of

:42:03. > :42:14.games is always on the money. People have a question mark about his

:42:15. > :42:18.kicking, his accuracy, but when the pressure is on, he is spot on. He

:42:19. > :42:29.won't put pressure on his other players as well, which you see the

:42:30. > :42:34.money ball or the really pressured pass that could be an area. He will

:42:35. > :42:42.take the tackle. One thing to reinforce what Ritchie said, he was

:42:43. > :42:44.setting the play up with the four options. Three players before it

:42:45. > :42:57.came. Inglis' metres are impressive, are

:42:58. > :43:05.not they? Which you would expect from full back because he carries

:43:06. > :43:15.the ball back. Is - he is up there in the freak category, but this man

:43:16. > :43:22.is a world-class performer. I just don't know what to say. He is quick,

:43:23. > :43:24.strong, look at that. There is a, "See you later," and another one,

:43:25. > :43:33.and another one, and a flick-pass. Why can't they tackle him? As a

:43:34. > :43:39.defender, what you try to do is get as close to the attacking player as

:43:40. > :43:44.you can with your feet, get that close to them that they can't evade

:43:45. > :43:54.them. His arms are three times the lengths

:43:55. > :43:56.of his legs, but he's one of the world's best players.

:43:57. > :43:59.Do you put him on fullback? With the spine of the teaming Melbourne, I

:44:00. > :44:11.think that Cronk, Cameron Smith, Slater makes sense, but there's 200

:44:12. > :44:13.metres in a game, but causes absolute carnage throughout the game

:44:14. > :44:18.from fullback. There is an argument he should play in that. The key for

:44:19. > :44:20.Australia is to get him as much ball as possible.

:44:21. > :44:28.They got more there obviously because of the option he is playing

:44:29. > :44:31.and the pivotal role that he plays at fullback there for his club side

:44:32. > :44:40.as well, but I think one of the keys and one of the success, they will

:44:41. > :44:44.try to release him as early as possible against their opposition

:44:45. > :44:50.going through this tournament. How does Australiaia's game work in

:44:51. > :44:56.terms of shapes? Wigan warriors have structure and it works really well

:44:57. > :45:02.for them. All of a sudden, it up folds, and

:45:03. > :45:08.you get three or four options again. The breakthrough, and Cherry-Evans

:45:09. > :45:16.is under the sticks. What Australia are great at, and they showed

:45:17. > :45:18.against England, is when t defence isn't quite right, the numbers are

:45:19. > :45:21.correct or there's a lapse in the defensive line, Australia take

:45:22. > :45:26.advantage of it. It is not necessarily through players that

:45:27. > :45:32.have worked on the training ground but instinctive players. When you're

:45:33. > :45:34.reacting like that, it is difficult to defend. You're predicting

:45:35. > :45:39.something whi Australia isn't sure how it's going to unfold themselves.

:45:40. > :45:49.Let's not forget about the skill levels of the big blokes in the

:45:50. > :45:51.middle there. They're big, well over 100 kilos yet they've got their good

:45:52. > :45:54.decision-making process for knowing when somebody is there. Where is the

:45:55. > :46:04.weakness? How do you beat them? England showed them in the first 20

:46:05. > :46:07.minutes against Australia how to beat them: to be direct. It is a

:46:08. > :46:11.impgame at times, to hit the ball at speed, cause a bit of carnage, play

:46:12. > :46:16.the ball quickly, and then off the back of that, get stuck into them

:46:17. > :46:22.with some defence. You certainly have to throw

:46:23. > :46:24.something at them other than we are doing this in five drives. I think

:46:25. > :46:33.England did that, make the defensive decisions, and don't be intimidated

:46:34. > :46:40.by what they are, they are flesh and blood, and we have the talent in the

:46:41. > :46:48.England team, and there are other teams in the World Cup thinking

:46:49. > :46:50.they've got the talent not only to stand up to the Australians, but

:46:51. > :46:56.beat them at their own game if necessary.

:46:57. > :47:05.I know England are desperate to have another crack at them because as

:47:06. > :47:08.showed in that 25, to minutes, they want to see if they can do it for

:47:09. > :47:21.the full 80. Australia are a quality side, but they can be broken down.

:47:22. > :47:23.England needed to get their World Cup campaign up and running after

:47:24. > :47:31.losing that opening match to Australia last week. On Saturday,

:47:32. > :47:37.they took on Ireland at a sold-out stadium in Huddersfield.

:47:38. > :47:56.It's a day for England to put on some razzle dazzle.

:47:57. > :47:58.It should be an England try. It will be eventually. Not the start Ireland

:47:59. > :48:14.wanted but certainly the start that England wanted.

:48:15. > :48:20.Ryan Hall! Here is Chase, Chase with a kick,

:48:21. > :48:35.after this right-hand side. Briscoe, and scores! A fabulous England try!

:48:36. > :48:44.Across the top, England threaten again.

:48:45. > :48:51.Briscoe steps back on the inside. Turns the defender inside out, and

:48:52. > :48:56.Tom Briscoe literally moments has got a second. England racing to 18

:48:57. > :49:06.points to nil. We need a response from Ireland now,

:49:07. > :49:10.don't we? There comes Watkins through the gap.

:49:11. > :49:12.Sin feel There comes Watkins through the gap.

:49:13. > :49:21.Sin feel ha There comes Watkins through the gap.

:49:22. > :49:26.Sin feel has his (Sinfield has his choice. Hall for the hat trick. Hall

:49:27. > :49:34.has got a hat trick. My word! An eave try for Brent Ferris. That

:49:35. > :49:42.will be very popular in these parts. It's four tries that England have

:49:43. > :49:52.scored without Ireland touching the ball.

:49:53. > :50:08.Look how he's got a - inside for Callum Watkins.

:50:09. > :50:11.Runners are coming here. Widdup to Tomkins.

:50:12. > :50:20.He runs it to another. He chases after this. And he

:50:21. > :50:26.certainly got there first. So, what did you make of England? I

:50:27. > :50:29.thought they were good. I thought the first half particularly, good

:50:30. > :50:37.shape, structure. Maybe a few issues on decision-making, but I think they

:50:38. > :50:42.will be pleased with what they dished up. The weather came in a

:50:43. > :50:45.little bit in the second half and made it scruffy, so they weren't

:50:46. > :50:57.quite at clinical. I think they will be really pleased. A couple of

:50:58. > :50:59.changes to the England side, a couple enforced. What did you make

:51:00. > :51:04.up of Tom Briscoe coming in, Sean owe Laughlin, is that a good move?

:51:05. > :51:11.Does that strengthen England? Obviously, Sean O'Laughlin is a

:51:12. > :51:14.world-class player. Potentially what Steve could do is move Burgess up to

:51:15. > :51:20.the front row, I think. I think the side has got good

:51:21. > :51:26.balance there, a lot of influential players, but O'Laughlin without

:51:27. > :51:29.doubt would be in my starting thin. We talk about shape with Australia.

:51:30. > :51:34.What is that pack giving with England in shape and structure? I

:51:35. > :51:44.thought how simply England set up their plays. They have a lot of the

:51:45. > :51:46.big guys, the props carrying the ball with support on the outside,

:51:47. > :51:55.with the option then to play out the back to a half back, and

:51:56. > :52:00.consistently set the shape up. On the back of that, gives them the

:52:01. > :52:04.ability to move the ball, and we have waves of attack here as you see

:52:05. > :52:11.where players are pairing up wide to potentially get the ball there.

:52:12. > :52:17.Chris Hall chooses to play the ball here. With all that shape choosing

:52:18. > :52:21.to play the ball is a great option but these players are designed to

:52:22. > :52:28.get England on the front foot so that when the speed of the play of

:52:29. > :52:32.the ball increases, they can catch out vulnerable defences.

:52:33. > :52:38.This is where we see they take the option to move the ball to play out

:52:39. > :52:47.the back. Actually to shift the ball and create some space. It results in

:52:48. > :52:54.results in a try. That gives you a bit of a glimpse in how you break a

:52:55. > :53:02.game down. You may well have set up plays ready to go to break a defence

:53:03. > :53:04.down but choosing just to play the ball, building to a game is crucial.

:53:05. > :53:09.I think the challenge for England would be control and having

:53:10. > :53:25.discipline on when they move the ball and when they don't. When they

:53:26. > :53:29.play direct, they look fantastic. When they play the ball quickly and

:53:30. > :53:30.then try and move the ball, they look great but maybe sometimes they

:53:31. > :53:34.can be, if anything, criticism is too lateral. Steve will be happy

:53:35. > :53:43.with the shape of the team. They've all got the ability to play

:53:44. > :53:46.as well, so I think the challenge is the decision-making process as to

:53:47. > :53:54.just to go north to south, speed the play of the ball up because, against

:53:55. > :54:00.the top teams, you need tempo, a little bit of front-foot football,

:54:01. > :54:02.so that decision-making process, as John has outlined, that Steve will

:54:03. > :54:15.be happy with the shape, people in the right places and now they have

:54:16. > :54:17.to make the right decisions. If you get your shape and structure right

:54:18. > :54:19.how key is Chase breaking down Australia? Some of the things he has

:54:20. > :54:29.shown with the ball, time and time again, he has signed for the Red

:54:30. > :54:34.Devils the next season. He's really key. They need to get the ball in

:54:35. > :54:38.his hands. They need to give it him. The more times he has his hands on

:54:39. > :54:44.the ball, the more dangerous England's attack will be. The

:54:45. > :54:51.challenge comes for England. Rangi is an unstructured sort of

:54:52. > :54:56.player and fitting him into that is key. Playing off-the-cuff for

:54:57. > :55:05.England will be something that will have to do at some stage. If they

:55:06. > :55:09.want to win the World Cup, they have to come up with players like this to

:55:10. > :55:15.win the World Cup. The structure is great. It lets everybody know where

:55:16. > :55:21.they should be. I think Widdup was impressive when

:55:22. > :55:23.he came on the field. You have to say against Ireland, you wouldn't

:55:24. > :55:33.scratch your heads too much in saying it was the right choice, but

:55:34. > :55:37.we are hoping that England progress and they get to a higher level

:55:38. > :55:38.against New Zealand and against Australia over which the

:55:39. > :55:41.semi-finalists or the quarterfinalists. I think that Chase

:55:42. > :55:45.has to play because of the threat he offers to do something different

:55:46. > :55:52.against different teams. Let's not forget Sinfield in

:55:53. > :55:54.big-pressure games knows how to respond. Next week, Fiji will pose a

:55:55. > :56:02.few more problems to them than Ireland did? Yes. I think there was

:56:03. > :56:09.a sense that they just held back Fiji in the game against Australia.

:56:10. > :56:10.They know that the big game is against England this week, and they

:56:11. > :56:15.will be absolutely fired up. They've got big aggressive guys. Some big

:56:16. > :56:22.aggressive kids who can cause some carnage for England, and that's

:56:23. > :56:26.probably summarisations the Fijian team, there is a lot of aggression

:56:27. > :56:30.there. That is something England are going to have to cope with. England

:56:31. > :56:36.will need to be on their mettle, they need to be ahead of the

:56:37. > :56:44.quarterfinals for this? They went into the Australian game and got

:56:45. > :56:50.more credit for themselves. Then they've gone and done a good job

:56:51. > :56:52.against Ireland, so this is another building step to obviously the

:56:53. > :56:53.quarters and the bigger games to come, hopefully. Here are the key

:56:54. > :57:13.games ahead this week: We

:57:14. > :57:23.are after your Twitter pics from matches you're at. Send us your

:57:24. > :57:28.Rugby Leag photos: We will use the best ones here and on

:57:29. > :57:32.the BBC sport website. But you might have to go some to beat this

:57:33. > :57:47.particular picture! Ritchie, over to you, explain yourself! Is this what

:57:48. > :57:49.you get up to in your spare time? She makes me wear it all the time.

:57:50. > :57:56.It was a stag do last night. We have another photo because you had a busy

:57:57. > :58:04.night as well, because, Helen, was on her stag do, and you managed to

:58:05. > :58:05.sneak into that picture as well! She got off lightly! We haven't had

:58:06. > :58:18.any pictures from your 30th birthday, sadly. It was very sedate

:58:19. > :58:22.evening, very civilised. None of this malarkey going on. What stands

:58:23. > :58:24.out for you, brine? Huge success, so far. Competitive football play. I

:58:25. > :58:30.think that's going to continue next week, if you're not watching it on

:58:31. > :58:37.the BBC, you need to get out there and support one of the games. It's

:58:38. > :58:41.been fabulous to see big stadiums, big crowds, everyone buying into it

:58:42. > :58:43.all. It all looks fantastic, everyone is behind it. A positive

:58:44. > :58:44.momentum. We are back next Sunday at 11. 11.25 pm. Expect more fireworks

:58:45. > :59:14.then. Good night. It is an honour, I shan't let you

:59:15. > :59:17.down. Easily said, Constable. Harder to prove.

:59:18. > :59:21.This sideshow is now shut down.
