:00:41. > :00:45.Hello and welcome to highlights of week three of the Rugby league World
:00:46. > :00:48.Cup. This weekend sees the final round of group matches and for some
:00:49. > :00:54.teams it is make or break time. Here is what is coming up. Italy take on
:00:55. > :00:59.Tonga, knowing a win will take them through to the quarterfinals.
:01:00. > :01:06.Ireland had a tough task in Limerick as they faced favourites Australia.
:01:07. > :01:10.Wales were looking to finish their World Cup campaign with a win
:01:11. > :01:15.against the Cook Islands. We will reflect on England's ultimately
:01:16. > :01:19.dominant victory against Fiji. And we will pay tribute to Steve
:01:20. > :01:23.Prescott, who passed away yesterday after a long will this. We are
:01:24. > :01:26.joined by another top-class trio of rugby league talent tonight but I am
:01:27. > :01:31.guessing that Bill Crabtree and Robbie Hunter Paul have probably had
:01:32. > :01:34.a less stressful day that the Scotland coach Steve McCormack and
:01:35. > :01:38.we will start tonight with the match that would decide Scotland's fate in
:01:39. > :01:39.the competition. It was the final game in group C, with Italy taking
:01:40. > :01:53.on Tonga in Halifax. Scotland needed Italy to beat Tonga
:01:54. > :01:58.if they were to go through. They had suffered a night -- -- narrow defeat
:01:59. > :02:01.in their opening group match. A win against the Cook Islands gave them a
:02:02. > :02:06.glimmer of hope before it was snuffed out by Scotland's defeat of
:02:07. > :02:11.the USA. A win by the narrowest of margins with the Italy go through at
:02:12. > :02:15.the expense of Scotland. An opening day win over my -- Wales backed up
:02:16. > :02:19.by an entertaining win against Scotland methods they stood on the
:02:20. > :02:20.edge of the quarterfinals on their debut in the court -- in the
:02:21. > :02:32.tournament. COMMENTATOR:
:02:33. > :02:36.What a great reception the two teams get. What a fabulous venue this is
:02:37. > :02:44.and what a great day for the club for Halifax to show off their
:02:45. > :03:01.ground. Let's go in and confirm aside from Tonga.
:03:02. > :03:30.15 minutes away from the Tonga line and this could be the chance for
:03:31. > :03:36.points. It is so tight at the moment, no score through 22
:03:37. > :03:40.minutes. Can they get some sort of results? There is a chance, it comes
:03:41. > :03:52.loose. A brilliant ball, Italy have it.
:03:53. > :04:00.Cameron Ciraldo has got it over the top. They will check it with the
:04:01. > :04:05.video referee. This is incredible. The line markings are not that
:04:06. > :04:14.distinct here but there is enough seem to prove that it is an inch
:04:15. > :04:21.from scoring. It has ended up huge tackle to prevent him from scoring.
:04:22. > :04:28.A big mistake, ten minutes out from their line, straight from the
:04:29. > :04:36.scrum. A dark moment for the Italian side and the winger.
:04:37. > :04:47.There are plenty of big boys out there.
:04:48. > :04:58.A great tackle by the Italians. The clean-up men come across. They had
:04:59. > :05:08.to bring people with them from the crowd because he is in.
:05:09. > :05:44.We have a penalty to Tonga. It will be the last play of the half.
:05:45. > :06:13.James Tedesco may have been held up as well, there is no celebrations
:06:14. > :06:24.from the Italians. James Tedesco has found that afterburners their, but
:06:25. > :06:30.may not have grounded the footy. No try is the call. It is so tense.
:06:31. > :06:58.Still no tries here. He has got it there, or did he lose
:06:59. > :07:05.it? Here we go again. He is celebrating, he reckons he has got
:07:06. > :07:09.this down. He has still got a good grip on it there and that is down,
:07:10. > :07:14.that is a try. Get ready from the cheer from the supporters from
:07:15. > :07:22.Tonga. I can hear the Scottish players screaming their heads off!
:07:23. > :07:30.He scatters a few blue jumpers all over the place, here's getting a one
:07:31. > :07:50.on one opportunity, beats him and gets the ball down.
:07:51. > :07:56.I can see three of his ribs out on the grass! Someone picked them up.
:07:57. > :07:59.Cook them and have them with barbecue sauce. What a tackle on
:08:00. > :08:07.Cameron Ciraldo. Mark Minichiello that time and Tonga
:08:08. > :08:41.is away. 20 metres away from the Italian
:08:42. > :08:47.line, dazzling play. What happened there? Just lost it.
:08:48. > :08:50.19 minutes away from the line, Italy's turn to defend. They trail
:08:51. > :09:14.by 8-0. They still haven't come -- they
:09:15. > :09:23.still have a couple of tackles left here.
:09:24. > :09:33.He is stretched out, they reckon they have a triple movement. He has
:09:34. > :09:39.given the try. It has gone to Daniel Foster. I have never seen many
:09:40. > :09:47.Jell-o blow up like that in his long career. That is the passion in the
:09:48. > :09:52.guy, the emotion. Foster does really well here. Close to the line with 90
:09:53. > :10:07.seconds to go. The captain of the Roosters has got
:10:08. > :10:31.him! If it is the strip, it is a try.
:10:32. > :10:39.Hand on the ball. That is pulled away, stolen. No, it comes clean
:10:40. > :10:42.away and hits the head accidentally. Hits the head accidentally, that is
:10:43. > :10:49.play on. Just a grounding, please. That is a try. They are going to say
:10:50. > :10:56.try here. I can't agree with the decision at all. We could discuss it
:10:57. > :11:06.over a pint later. They get the try, Tonga. Scotland are into the
:11:07. > :11:09.quarterfinals. We made it hard for ourselves. That first half
:11:10. > :11:12.especially I don't think we stuck to what we do best. All credit to the
:11:13. > :11:21.Tongan team. Every game is worth fighting for in
:11:22. > :11:24.the World Cup and they have proven that today. Probably the best side
:11:25. > :11:29.one and the best side is going to the quarterfinals in Scotland. I am
:11:30. > :11:34.proud of the boys and the way they responded. That is what the Marc
:11:35. > :11:40.Thomas spirit is all about. The boys did it defensively and I am very
:11:41. > :11:43.proud. Confirmation that Scotland are top of group C through to the
:11:44. > :11:47.quarterfinals. Many congratulations, Steve. You watched
:11:48. > :11:50.that game together. What was the atmosphere like and what was the
:11:51. > :11:54.atmosphere like when you knew how you had gone through? Exceptional,
:11:55. > :12:00.the lads have one exception -- works hard. Watching a game where you have
:12:01. > :12:03.no input, the pressure is off you and when the final try was given by
:12:04. > :12:09.the video referee, the place erupted, as you can see. And burst
:12:10. > :12:13.into song, they have good voice. It is, we do the Flower Of Scotland so
:12:14. > :12:18.that is the first time we have done it one we have won the game. It is a
:12:19. > :12:24.special occasion to get through to a quarterfinal. They are magnificent
:12:25. > :12:30.and I am proud of them. It all became -- you presumably became Don
:12:31. > :12:39.-- Tongans for the day. You owe a debt of gratitude to Suey Fuifui
:12:40. > :12:41.Moimoi. He was superb. We had a fantastic game against them in
:12:42. > :12:46.Workington but he is a great player. Look at the size of him, his
:12:47. > :12:54.carries, he is knocking three, four, five defenders off. You would not
:12:55. > :12:59.mind running into him, would you? ! He was like the size of a caravan
:13:00. > :13:05.but now he has got bigger! He is the size of a house! He is huge. He
:13:06. > :13:11.causes destruction everywhere. I live at the end he gives him a pat
:13:12. > :13:16.on the back, big hair, coming at him 1 million miles an hour, a lot of
:13:17. > :13:20.energy from Fuifui Moimoi. I am guessing it poses problems because
:13:21. > :13:24.quite a few of your guys have jobs. On Friday morning after the USA game
:13:25. > :13:30.I went into Warrington College and asked my boss, maybe another week
:13:31. > :13:33.off, we have Josh Barlow who is fitting fireplaces on Monday and
:13:34. > :13:37.Tuesday before we played the Kiwis. It is a fantastic story. We have
:13:38. > :13:41.part-time players, Super League players and championship players and
:13:42. > :13:46.they have all come together and worked exceptionally hard and
:13:47. > :13:50.performed. We talked about Danny Brough and how key he was due last
:13:51. > :13:57.week but Matthew Russell at fullback has had a fantastic tournament,
:13:58. > :14:02.hasn't he? He has come up with some little bits of magic. His positional
:14:03. > :14:07.play, he's like a pinball machine, you just cannot tackle him. I am
:14:08. > :14:11.pleased for him. He had a great career at Wigan. He could not get in
:14:12. > :14:15.the team because of Sam Tomkins. He had a loan spell at Hull, then he
:14:16. > :14:20.has come back and what a fantastic World Cup he has had. He knows how
:14:21. > :14:27.to score. Quite a few individual tries. And long-distance tries as
:14:28. > :14:34.well, 30 metre tries. He has got that ability to bounce off players.
:14:35. > :14:40.He's tough and quick. He has been a revelation for us in this World Cup.
:14:41. > :14:46.An easy game, champions New Zealand in the quarterfinals! We will be
:14:47. > :14:50.back in training tomorrow morning. What a great opportunity. The
:14:51. > :14:55.players have earned the right to play against the Kiwis. Probably the
:14:56. > :14:59.biggest challenge in sport, foamy. The board champions, the Kiwis, a
:15:00. > :15:05.fantastic team, but we will have a good crack at them. In group A,
:15:06. > :15:09.Australia took on Ireland in Limerick with Pat Bridges playing
:15:10. > :15:13.his last match before heading home down under. The Australians have
:15:14. > :15:19.lived up to their billing as tournament favourites, with an
:15:20. > :15:23.unbeaten 11 match run. Victory here would see Australia topping group A,
:15:24. > :15:32.and rewarded with a match against the quarterfinals. Two defeats in
:15:33. > :15:36.the group stages meant it was almost impossible for I went to progress.
:15:37. > :15:40.They failed to score and then into mass match for the first time
:15:41. > :15:45.against England and face a tougher test against Australia.
:15:46. > :15:56.This is the moment, Australia and Ireland. Cameron Smith leading his
:15:57. > :16:16.team out, in this World Cup. And confirming the Irish side for
:16:17. > :16:44.tonight. Individually, Ireland have some fine
:16:45. > :16:56.talents. Some slick work going through the gap, and straightaway,
:16:57. > :17:04.the kangaroos have the first try. Jarryd Hayne, Australia coming up
:17:05. > :17:08.with a try inside 90 seconds. I thought they had moved a little bit
:17:09. > :17:14.too early, but the full-back, Simon Grix was not able to come over and
:17:15. > :17:19.take him across the sideline. They scored inside 90 seconds. We are now
:17:20. > :17:30.in the 11th minute and they have not missed a tackle. Australia just five
:17:31. > :17:41.away, as you can see. And the Australian halfback has scored. A
:17:42. > :17:47.second try for the Kangaroos and it has gone to Cooper Cronk. Good speed
:17:48. > :17:57.and only seven metres out, just help over the line. Australia, inside the
:17:58. > :18:10.eye and 20, still only two tries posted in 28 minutes. Gerry Evans,
:18:11. > :18:24.there is the third try, what a pass from Gerry Evans. What a ball that
:18:25. > :18:31.was. Australia finally get it right and spread themselves across to the
:18:32. > :18:41.right hand side. Taking a little pressure from the Irish defence, and
:18:42. > :18:48.opening up the hall. -- hole. The feeder with them all, dummying. --
:18:49. > :19:11.with the ball. And Australia have gone over. Brett
:19:12. > :19:20.Morris scores a try. It is 20-0, to the Aussies. The ducks out of the
:19:21. > :19:24.dummy half and gets the ricochet. And Gerry Evans, back-to-back. There
:19:25. > :19:28.is no brotherly love. Brent says to Josh, I was shown and then I'll go.
:19:29. > :19:50.-- I will show. Slater, the dummy from Slater, and
:19:51. > :19:58.off he goes. Billy Slater. Another test drive for Australia. And he has
:19:59. > :20:03.got plenty, don't worry about that. Cooper Cronk passed the ball. They
:20:04. > :20:07.get this defence going sideways, and I love the way that Billy Slater
:20:08. > :20:12.just holds himself up, he knows that the line is coming, just half a
:20:13. > :20:18.second, and the lying appears right in front of him, and he just gets
:20:19. > :20:22.down. The kangaroos 22 metres from the line. And a switch of play from
:20:23. > :20:37.miles to Cooper Cronk. And Cooper Cronk is straight
:20:38. > :20:51.through. Weaving his way through to score. You have got the decision to
:20:52. > :21:01.make, Phil Bentham, sending this one upstairs. The decision is going to
:21:02. > :21:13.come through that it is a try to Australia. Number six of the night,
:21:14. > :21:20.and Cooper Cronk has a double. He looks up to the right, he is going
:21:21. > :21:36.to go left. Lays it off to cherry Evans. And that makes three test
:21:37. > :21:54.tries in three tests. For Cherry Evans.
:21:55. > :22:08.He was almost away, good tackle. 11 yards from the line. No one more
:22:09. > :22:17.stop him now. Andrew Fifita has a try for Australia, and he
:22:18. > :22:18.celebrates. He married the day before the Kangaroos departed. And
:22:19. > :22:35.here he is scoring at Limerick. He has gone close a couple of times
:22:36. > :22:44.now. And another try for the Kangaroos. At Thomond Park,
:22:45. > :22:50.Limerick, Australia 50- nil over Ireland. We have been lucky enough
:22:51. > :22:54.to win all three all matches, it is a good building platform for the
:22:55. > :23:00.rest of the tournament so hopefully we can keep on improving. We were
:23:01. > :23:07.certainly having a big, and that is what we asked them to do, coming to
:23:08. > :23:14.Limerick, coming to Thomond Park, I think that they can walk off with
:23:15. > :23:19.their heads held high. What have you made of the USA, have you seen any
:23:20. > :23:26.of their games? They have been the surprise package. We will have to be
:23:27. > :23:32.on our game. Anything can happen. Australia finishing top of group A.
:23:33. > :23:38.You were purring, watching some of those tries.
:23:39. > :23:43.They make every player really work for everything that they ever do,
:23:44. > :23:51.defensively. This typifies it. All day long, you have got to deal with
:23:52. > :23:56.them. Creating space on the outside with Billy Slater coming round on
:23:57. > :24:03.the edge. Liam Finn checks, Then it is a foot race for Billy Slater to
:24:04. > :24:09.get to the try line, and Billy Slater is going to get to the try
:24:10. > :24:13.line every single times. Cherry-Evans has played fabulously.
:24:14. > :24:18.This is the strength of the Australian team. Not only can they
:24:19. > :24:22.play well with an obstructive pattern, but they can do it
:24:23. > :24:29.individually as well, and this just personifies what they have got to
:24:30. > :24:35.offer. Put your sues -- shoes in their -- put your selves in the
:24:36. > :24:40.shoes of Terry Matheson. He will be concentrating on his own team. They
:24:41. > :24:44.have got to the final playing some fantastic rugby. You have got to
:24:45. > :24:48.look at that play from Billy Slater. They have got some fantastic
:24:49. > :24:52.individuals. The focus will be on what they can do well and how they
:24:53. > :24:57.can perform and maximise their potential as a team. They are full
:24:58. > :25:04.of stars, Australia, but they play so well as a unit, and the forwards
:25:05. > :25:08.create space. They are so clinical and what they do, and everyone has a
:25:09. > :25:11.certain role within the team. They create space out wide through the
:25:12. > :25:17.different players, and if they find themselves in trouble, the likes of
:25:18. > :25:24.Cherry-Evans just kicks the ball so precisely and solves the problem.
:25:25. > :25:28.Occasionally, they can make mistakes and that is where you have got to
:25:29. > :25:33.catch them out. How would you beat them? It is about doing the right
:25:34. > :25:38.things within your own team. We have shown it with the England team, we
:25:39. > :25:42.were the stronger team and they started making mistakes. As soon as
:25:43. > :25:48.you start making mistakes, they get back into the game. Control the
:25:49. > :25:53.ball, control the game. Three tries for three games for Cherry-Evans,
:25:54. > :25:56.and they are so strong that he will be sitting on the bench. They have
:25:57. > :26:02.this conveyor belt of talent coming through. More than any other players
:26:03. > :26:07.coming through, putting pressure on what you would consider the starting
:26:08. > :26:11.Australian stars than any younger players have, for a number of years.
:26:12. > :26:16.I would not be surprised if they rolled the dice and put him in.
:26:17. > :26:23.There was pride to play for in Neath. Wales took on the cook
:26:24. > :26:23.islands, with both teams looking for their first victory of the
:26:24. > :26:38.tournament. Time out on the left side. Joining
:26:39. > :26:42.the attack from full-back. And getting down that enter quite some
:26:43. > :26:50.time. And have the Cook Islands got in? Yes, they have. The referee
:26:51. > :26:53.confirms it. The Cook Islands have had a lot of pressure early on in
:26:54. > :27:01.this game and they are the first to score.
:27:02. > :27:17.And Wales get a man over in the corner, Christian Rowett. Still a
:27:18. > :27:23.couple of tackles remaining. The ball spinning out through Isaac.
:27:24. > :27:27.Again, Keith Mooney is going to charge down for the corner. The
:27:28. > :27:43.second try of the game for the Cook Islands. Napper checks his run.
:27:44. > :27:53.And the drive-through, and there is Isaac John, with the third try for
:27:54. > :27:59.the Cook Islands. He made it look ever so easy. Still, tackles
:28:00. > :28:09.remaining in this set. Spreading the play, through John, and then the
:28:10. > :28:15.second row, looks like he has got the ball down, it has taken them
:28:16. > :28:22.five minutes of the second half, and the Cook Islands have got on the
:28:23. > :28:29.scoreboard again. The Welsh driving towards the line, rolling on with
:28:30. > :28:35.Ben Flower. Back to Lupton. He cannot quite get there. The Welsh
:28:36. > :28:42.have woken up. One metre from the line. Driving through, and the gap
:28:43. > :28:46.has opened up, unconventional, maybe, but they don't care. The
:28:47. > :28:53.Welsh have got some points in the second half. This is a good set for
:28:54. > :29:04.the Welsh. Keeping the ball going with Ben Flower. Ever so close.
:29:05. > :29:13.Lupton, And there it is, Christian Rowett, for the Welsh. There is
:29:14. > :29:19.support, and it goes over in the corner, Lloyd, his second try of
:29:20. > :29:35.this Rugby league World Cup, 2013. He sticks it as high as he can. They
:29:36. > :29:44.have got space as the Cook Islands and are charging through. We will
:29:45. > :29:52.have a look at this one. That is a challenge, that is OK. It is off the
:29:53. > :29:59.Welsh hand, this will be a try. We are going to the screen now. The
:30:00. > :30:06.Cook Islands have nudged themselves six points ahead.
:30:07. > :30:18.They have got extra runners on the right-hand side. They are away.
:30:19. > :30:36.A disappointing end to Wales' rugby league campaign. On Saturday the sad
:30:37. > :30:40.news came through that Steve Prescott had died. He won the league
:30:41. > :30:45.and cup double with his home-town club St Helens before going on to
:30:46. > :30:49.play for Hull FC and Wakefield. He represented England and Ireland.
:30:50. > :30:55.After being diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer in 2006, he
:30:56. > :30:57.set about raising more than half ?1 million for charities. He was
:30:58. > :31:04.awarded the MBE for his fundraising and services to rugby league -- he
:31:05. > :31:09.raised more than ?500,000 for charities. In 2006, I was diagnosed
:31:10. > :31:16.with a rare form of stomach cancer and given months to live. Five or
:31:17. > :31:19.six years later, I am running marathons and Jerry -- doing
:31:20. > :31:24.endurance events. You take each day as it comes and keep going and get
:31:25. > :31:29.on with life. To do what he has done is beyond belief. It is superhuman.
:31:30. > :31:35.I can't understand how he managed to do it, but he did. You have cycled
:31:36. > :31:39.through France and London and rode the Atlantic and won the marathon
:31:40. > :31:43.and tell us what time you did? I got a new personal best in the London
:31:44. > :31:48.Marathon, I can't believe it. We have rewritten the running manual,
:31:49. > :31:53.training preparation for a marathon. We rode the date thiss the day
:31:54. > :32:00.before we run the London Marathon, we wrote the Atlantic. He is so
:32:01. > :32:08.inspirational, lesser people would have dealt with it differently but
:32:09. > :32:10.Steve fought and fought. He is a huge inspiration to everybody and
:32:11. > :32:17.will be sadly missed. A brilliant rugby league player, we will
:32:18. > :32:20.remember him for the achievements and the good he has created for
:32:21. > :32:27.everybody else. COMMENTATOR:
:32:28. > :32:36.Oh, he has just pushed him to touch, and magnificent run from
:32:37. > :32:40.Prescott. He has pace oozing out of his boots. Cancer hospitals need
:32:41. > :32:48.help and support so I chose the Christie Hospital. It needs people
:32:49. > :32:53.like us to promote it and expand. I had to do something for rugby league
:32:54. > :32:57.because it has been my life. My dad played rugby as well. I want to help
:32:58. > :33:04.other people. We can help them and it is all worth it. It was the
:33:05. > :33:08.measure of the man that the crowd at Holt broke into spontaneous applause
:33:09. > :33:09.during the minute's silence, a true legend of the game remembered.
:33:10. > :33:50.APPLAUSE It was incredibly emotional at Hull
:33:51. > :33:55.and with all the incredible charity work, you could almost forget what a
:33:56. > :33:59.great player he was. He was a sensational player and quite painful
:34:00. > :34:02.at times because the footage we saw lifting the Challenge Cup was
:34:03. > :34:06.against my Bradford team. He was one of the original Super League stars.
:34:07. > :34:11.When the Super League was invented in 1996, he was at the forefront of
:34:12. > :34:14.the game. He made a massive splash, an international player as well. He
:34:15. > :34:20.will be remembered for the hard work you did in and around the sport. He
:34:21. > :34:22.really is the measuring stick, the benchmark that the modern-day
:34:23. > :34:26.professional should measure themselves against because it wasn't
:34:27. > :34:31.just about the sport or himself, he gave back so much as well. He will
:34:32. > :34:36.be sorely missed and our hearts and minds go out to his friends and
:34:37. > :34:40.family. The work he had done has been incredible and it really does
:34:41. > :34:45.leave a legacy, doesn't it? I really hope it does, it is something we
:34:46. > :34:49.need to think about the future. He was a remarkable person. I'd
:34:50. > :34:54.presented the shirt before the game and was inspired and people talk
:34:55. > :34:59.about the man of steel and the Steve Prescott award would be a fitting
:35:00. > :35:03.tribute. England's last group game was against Fiji at a sold-out KC
:35:04. > :35:06.Stadium in hole. After losing to Australia England got their World
:35:07. > :35:12.Cup campaign right back on track with a big win against Ireland last
:35:13. > :35:19.week, but they knew Fiji would provide a tough and physical tests.
:35:20. > :35:27.I have been looking forward to this encounter all week. It is a clamp
:35:28. > :35:32.like Fijian defence that is hanging on at the moment. James Graham,
:35:33. > :35:41.listed in the air. He is not going to like that, is he? He is not going
:35:42. > :35:42.to like that. James Graham, good, short backpass and Burgess. I think
:35:43. > :35:55.he might have fumbled it, he did. He has missed, dropped on and he
:35:56. > :36:02.will play the try. What a let off for England.
:36:03. > :36:11.And inside ball and try. This game just got a whole lot tougher for
:36:12. > :36:27.England. Sinfield, wonderful by Kevin
:36:28. > :36:32.Sinfield. England respond in kind. Straightaway England are up and
:36:33. > :36:40.running here. Chris Hill with a try forward and they are only ten metres
:36:41. > :36:45.away. Rob Burrow maintaining his position. Burgess again, Sam
:36:46. > :36:49.Burgess, unstoppable. The man is a machine, all of them could not keep
:36:50. > :36:58.him out. There is a machine, all of them could not keep him out. Respond
:36:59. > :37:03.responding of Rob Burrow, to his left he has got Hill and Rangi
:37:04. > :37:11.Chase. A lovely delayed pass from Rangi Chase and England are finding
:37:12. > :37:17.their form. Rangi Chase, it goes to Hall, what about that for Ryan Hall?
:37:18. > :37:25.It is better than aspirin for curing a coach's headache.
:37:26. > :37:44.Burrow skips away and was a wonderful England try again. They go
:37:45. > :37:48.again. It is a trifle Hall. Ryan Hall, a simpler finished than his
:37:49. > :37:54.first, his try tally in an England shirt is phenomenal. This was
:37:55. > :37:58.supposed to be a tough day at the office and it was in the first half.
:37:59. > :38:13.Fiji creating a bit of space here. That is a fabulous finesse --
:38:14. > :38:20.finish. A great score, and is a great rugby league score. England's
:38:21. > :38:22.day by a distance. Anybody who thought we would walk all over this
:38:23. > :38:28.team will need to think again. It was a tough match, we defended. We
:38:29. > :38:31.didn't play to our standard in the first half, we put our foot down at
:38:32. > :38:35.the start of the second half and carried on throughout the game. It
:38:36. > :38:39.was a great team effort and very happy for the team. It is the test
:38:40. > :38:42.we needed, we have had to work hard in each game and that will bode well
:38:43. > :38:53.for us in the quarterfinals. England going through as runners-up
:38:54. > :38:58.to Australia, Sam Burgess epitomised all the physicality of England. Yes,
:38:59. > :39:03.he was fantastic in this game. One of the standout players, without
:39:04. > :39:08.doubt. You can see by the statistics, 183 metres which is
:39:09. > :39:13.ridiculous for any team player, especially a prop. Most props go for
:39:14. > :39:14.100 metres but with carriers like this he set the benchmark for the
:39:15. > :39:22.game. We were talking about Fijian
:39:23. > :39:27.physicality but it was about Sam Burgess ripping into the boys and
:39:28. > :39:31.making sure that it was them who got on top. It was scrappy in the first
:39:32. > :39:34.half by England but we did the right things in the first half, the
:39:35. > :39:41.physicality, that is the way they had to set the standard. Elbowed,
:39:42. > :39:46.that is what it is all about. What about his try? Brilliant. He
:39:47. > :39:51.shouldn't deserve to school there. There were five Fijian defenders, he
:39:52. > :39:57.goes through the middle of them. All scrambling, he jumps up and throws
:39:58. > :40:03.the ball down hard. He is England's enforcer and the whole world knows
:40:04. > :40:11.he is coming. That is what makes him dangerous. He has steps the game up
:40:12. > :40:13.and is England's enforcer. Going into the quarterfinals and semifinal
:40:14. > :40:18.and potentially the final they will need that type of personnel within
:40:19. > :40:19.the squad. How important to have a player like that in the team? What
:40:20. > :40:32.does it do to the rest of the team? He is the talisman. You look at the
:40:33. > :40:39.space he has created for boroughs and Rangi Chase, you can have a good
:40:40. > :40:43.side there. Burgess is a massive player for England. The whole pack
:40:44. > :40:45.set the platform. We started seeing the backs play, Rangi Chase throwing
:40:46. > :40:59.the ball more than he has been. They have to set the platform. That
:41:00. > :41:06.gives these opportunities to create space out wide, there are gaps to
:41:07. > :41:12.pass the ball. Ryan Hall is one of the best finishers in the game.
:41:13. > :41:18.Through the middle, Burgess, the inside two. What did he bring to the
:41:19. > :41:23.game? His speed and presence of mind, he is experienced. He gets in
:41:24. > :41:27.the right position. He pushes in support better than anybody in the
:41:28. > :41:31.game. He is there in support and puts the ball into the sticks. How
:41:32. > :41:33.do you think England have progressed so far? Are you seeing them
:41:34. > :41:44.building? The halfbacks are working well, the
:41:45. > :41:47.forwards are getting on top. There will be big tests over the next
:41:48. > :41:52.couple of weeks but Steve McNamara all good pleased with the way he's
:41:53. > :41:57.side is building. A few selection headaches because nobody has let him
:41:58. > :42:02.down yet. Nobody has let him down, they are fit squad. You need to have
:42:03. > :42:06.the strength and depth, so he puts the pressure on the starting 17 and
:42:07. > :42:11.maybe that is what we will see in going to the next level. Would you
:42:12. > :42:18.have Rob Burrow win? I would. Definitely. You are sat in a
:42:19. > :42:24.darkened room but it is up to you in the end. It is great to have so many
:42:25. > :42:30.world-class players in your side, you have James Roby coming into the
:42:31. > :42:33.England side. You have three great players, Robbie was on about the
:42:34. > :42:38.Australian halfbacks but England has good players to put-in there as
:42:39. > :42:41.well. It is his selection headache, not yours. You have your own
:42:42. > :42:48.problems! This is how the quarterfinals line-up with one group
:42:49. > :42:52.match left to play. You have New Zealand against Scotland, Australia
:42:53. > :42:55.against the USA, the other two still to be decided because we have an
:42:56. > :43:03.extra highlights programme on Monday evening on BBC Two at 11:20pm to see
:43:04. > :43:06.who England will take on in that quarterfinal. France against Samoa
:43:07. > :43:12.in Perpignan on as the final match of the group stages. We will have
:43:13. > :43:15.live coverage of England's quarterfinal next Saturday. Build-up
:43:16. > :43:17.starts with a red button special before switching to BBC Two after
:43:18. > :43:34.7:30pm. Sue Barker presents coverage of this
:43:35. > :43:38.tennis programme. My thanks to Robbie, Steve and Earle. We are
:43:39. > :43:41.nearly at the knockout stages of this World Cup. Join us later today
:43:42. > :43:43.for the final pieces of the jigsaw. Goodbye.
