:00:50. > :01:31.Welcome to this week's highlights of the Rugby League World Cup. We have

:01:32. > :01:42.reached the quarterfinal stages and here is what is in store for you.

:01:43. > :01:49.Not one for the faint of heart, Samoa take on Fiji. It has been the

:01:50. > :01:55.tournament to remember for the USA, but they were playing Australia. New

:01:56. > :02:01.Zealand have looked slick. Scotland with their latest test. We reflect

:02:02. > :02:02.on another patchy performance from England as they booked the semifinal

:02:03. > :02:08.place at Wembley. Tonight's terrible trio of rugby

:02:09. > :02:20.league talent... The first match is the mouthwatering

:02:21. > :02:23.clash between two of the real heavyweights of the game. It is

:02:24. > :02:35.Samoa against Fiji. Local rivalries were at stake, as

:02:36. > :02:42.these two sides met in what promised to be a physical quarterfinal. Samoa

:02:43. > :02:47.came off a winning run. Victory would see them reach the last four

:02:48. > :02:51.for the first time. Fiji are smarting after a heavy defeat from

:02:52. > :02:56.England and hope to repeat their success of 2008 when they reached

:02:57. > :02:57.the semifinals. This could them -- this could be the toughest 80

:02:58. > :03:09.minutes of the World Cup so far. It is Samoa versus Fiji in the

:03:10. > :03:20.fourth quarter final of the Rugby League World Cup. There has been a

:03:21. > :04:09.reshuffle. Driving there. He has got support on

:04:10. > :04:21.his left shoulder. He finishes it off for Fiji. Striving through. He

:04:22. > :04:31.will do anything from anywhere. They have saved him up. Watch this.

:04:32. > :04:36.Straight through. He gets to the inside. Brilliant support play and

:04:37. > :04:51.he just needs to keep his legs going. What a break from Uate.

:04:52. > :05:00.Midway through this tackle count, they are progressing well, rolling

:05:01. > :05:11.up onto the line. That is another penalty. Shoulder charge. Lining

:05:12. > :05:14.this one up. There is no doubt that there are way of defence, it is

:05:15. > :05:21.suspicious. Whether they have got the ball or not they are going down.

:05:22. > :05:23.He lines up a second kick. He converted the try. This one puts him

:05:24. > :05:55.ahead. The measures it up OK. Good drive. Stepping inside. He

:05:56. > :05:59.kicks it through. Did he drop it or kick it? I think he was looking for

:06:00. > :06:05.the kick. He was parked on his own out there. If he had kicked it and

:06:06. > :06:10.executed it was a play. Spreading the play are Samoa. Looking for

:06:11. > :06:25.spaces. Good tackle. Can they hold them out again?

:06:26. > :06:31.Back-to-back for the second time. Edging closer but they cannot get

:06:32. > :06:37.through. It is not close enough. I think it is a penalty. He has gone

:06:38. > :06:43.behind the back of somebody. I saw it clearly up here. They are trying

:06:44. > :06:44.to get him free, one-on-one, but the minute he runs past, he impedes the

:06:45. > :07:01.defender. Great tackle. It is the turn of Samoa to exercise

:07:02. > :07:24.the goal-line defence. He stopped a few metres short. This

:07:25. > :07:30.is the final play for Fiji. They go right.

:07:31. > :07:43.He is going to touch the ball down. We will have a look.

:07:44. > :07:54.I am happy he is onside. That is fine. That is a try. The second try

:07:55. > :08:06.of the game given to Fiji. The lead by 12 points zero.

:08:07. > :08:15.Take a bow. Into Roberts. Struggling.

:08:16. > :08:19.Disappointed he could not keep hold of it. It is play on. Watch out.

:08:20. > :08:24.Watch out. They are on their own. Looking to

:08:25. > :08:51.put him in touch. Great rugby. We saw them hold out

:08:52. > :08:55.Samoa couple of times and now they have a couple of questions. Samoa

:08:56. > :09:04.will look to come again. They drive on. Quickly closed down.

:09:05. > :09:54.Desperation from the Samoans. Great defence, Samoa. Fiji did

:09:55. > :10:49.everything right. It was a big hit. Everyone is in. It

:10:50. > :11:02.was coming for awhile. Slipped up. Just went around his

:11:03. > :11:26.head. Ten points is the difference at the

:11:27. > :11:42.moment. With a successful conversion it will draw them level.

:11:43. > :11:55.Get the ball away. Nicked the ball away, is it? Underneath the sticks!

:11:56. > :12:06.They have booked a place in the semifinal at Wembley. He sealed the

:12:07. > :12:14.game for Fiji. Uate is the difference. He flicked the ball out.

:12:15. > :12:21.This has been a super effort from Fiji. Fair to say you enjoy that

:12:22. > :12:27.game. I thought it was a terrific game, super. Everything we expected.

:12:28. > :12:32.Last week, neither of these wingers played against England. We now know

:12:33. > :12:35.why. It was a masterstroke. They have been waiting for the whole

:12:36. > :12:43.tournament. They were outstanding. They have carried over 400 metres

:12:44. > :12:46.between them. They are responsible for over a third of the metres that

:12:47. > :12:54.Fiji made. It is the excitement that they bring to the tournament. It was

:12:55. > :13:01.awesome. They both went around and were given a free license, in

:13:02. > :13:09.effect. Watch this. He is just so powerful. We are you tackle this

:13:10. > :13:13.bloke? Going like this, running down the line. Plu-mac wingers are so

:13:14. > :13:19.important in the modern game. When you have two wingers carrying the

:13:20. > :13:24.ball for 40 metres it makes it much easier. What a fantastic clip. It

:13:25. > :13:30.shows you the mentality of the Fijians. The prop forward is, you

:13:31. > :13:36.remember someone like me in the middle of the field, playing the

:13:37. > :13:44.ball quickly, it is fantastic. He breaks the game up, he has beaten

:13:45. > :13:52.decent players and to do that that is great athleticism and power. Try

:13:53. > :13:59.and stop that one! Great skill and awareness. It is unfair to say that

:14:00. > :14:03.they are just power. They have great skill and balance. It was the way

:14:04. > :14:10.they played the rugby that got them on top. Here's the difference

:14:11. > :14:13.again, Uate. This is literally to finish the game because they were in

:14:14. > :14:25.control but they thoroughly deserved the win. They were much better,

:14:26. > :14:35.tactically. I think so. These guys carried some huge metres. 150

:14:36. > :14:38.metres, 200 metres, when two guys do it in your team, the rest of the

:14:39. > :14:42.game is relatively easy. The halfback had one of his best games.

:14:43. > :14:49.When he is playing well and the wingers as well, that is the reason

:14:50. > :14:53.Fiji won the game. They are a threat. It was a wonderful mix of

:14:54. > :15:00.the physicality and skills but also so much pride and passion on show,

:15:01. > :15:06.right from the very start. I think it was a special day in a lot of

:15:07. > :15:10.respects. Both teams were ready to play. And then the song from Fiji

:15:11. > :15:17.was just, the whole ground stood still. A special World Cup moment.

:15:18. > :15:22.At the end particularly. But the stage was set here. And they

:15:23. > :15:31.certainly got into each other. Maybe it was an energy battle in the end

:15:32. > :15:38.because Samoa were in and Fiji had a couple more days of rest. How he got

:15:39. > :15:44.up from that is a minor miracle, isn't it?! But this one, you slips

:15:45. > :15:53.up beneath the head and he takes its etching delete old -- takes

:15:54. > :15:56.exception to it. The tears of a loser and those are the tears of a

:15:57. > :16:07.winner. It takes so much to get through. Yes. They have such a

:16:08. > :16:12.strong cultural identity and it was a great success. The USA took on

:16:13. > :16:22.nine time World Cup winners Australia in a David versus Goliath.

:16:23. > :16:29.COMMENTATOR: So, here we come, a big day in the history of Rugby League.

:16:30. > :16:36.A colourful history of America going back to the all stars tour. Now they

:16:37. > :16:47.find themselves at the end of the draw, the top eight, in a Rugby

:16:48. > :16:56.League World Cup. Isn't there some try scoring potential in that Aussie

:16:57. > :16:59.side? For the Tomahawks for this historic day for them, their side

:17:00. > :17:17.looks like this. Americans, they get numbers in the

:17:18. > :17:21.tackles and they have to prove it can be off-loaded to have any chance

:17:22. > :17:29.of stemming the flow of points. At the back and now there is trouble.

:17:30. > :17:35.The two centres combine! And he scores two and a half minutes in.

:17:36. > :17:42.Another test for the American defence. He wants to wrestle! Here

:17:43. > :18:03.he comes! Now Australia with Cronk, first out.

:18:04. > :18:07.Well done! This is the sort of stuff day love at the White House! -- they

:18:08. > :18:29.love! Inglis just plunges over! You need

:18:30. > :18:40.more than just one-on-one big play close to the line. True, true! It is

:18:41. > :18:54.all up to Brett Morris! The long striding St George scores here. For

:18:55. > :19:07.the kangaroos. He has the third try. Fantastic individual, and brilliance

:19:08. > :19:17.from Maurice here. -- Brett Morris. Cameron Smith, the captain! He

:19:18. > :19:20.scores one for the Kangaroos. Just showing the step pushes on the

:19:21. > :19:31.inside, backing up through the middle.

:19:32. > :19:39.The Australians are on the march again! Just too good! You know, you

:19:40. > :19:46.are talking megastar to megastar to megastar. We don't how many gears

:19:47. > :19:59.these guys have got! They are in about 50 at the moment! -- fifth.

:20:00. > :20:06.This is a tough day at the office now. You can't make errors ten out

:20:07. > :20:24.from your own line, can you, against the Kangaroos? It is an open invite.

:20:25. > :20:40.Clear and they have got a double against Ireland. So, lovely work.

:20:41. > :20:45.Ten metres out. 18 try. -- a team. Brett Morris is looking for a

:20:46. > :20:54.hat-trick here and he's going to get one! He's got better than a try. It

:20:55. > :21:02.must be absolute luxury to play outside somebody like Inglis. And

:21:03. > :21:10.Brett Morris says, thank you, Greg. By rights, the school could be even

:21:11. > :21:20.bigger. Nice control from Thurston. Good stuff from Craig Priestley.

:21:21. > :21:25.Cooper Cronk on the last kick. Brett Morris has scored four tries! They

:21:26. > :21:30.are going to check it on the video referee but if he's got it, he will

:21:31. > :21:37.be the fifth Australian in the history of World Cup footy to score

:21:38. > :21:42.four tries in a match! It looks like everybody is onside. That is a try,

:21:43. > :21:59.please. He is hit and hit solidly. Just a

:22:00. > :22:03.tough game, isn't it? Just a tough game played by tough teams! This

:22:04. > :22:13.could be at big moment in the campaign of the Kangaroos.

:22:14. > :22:24.Off-loaded and there is Smith. Well done again, though, from Priestley.

:22:25. > :22:35.They tried to grab a leg, a toe, and arm... I am still going! No, I am

:22:36. > :22:41.not! You, too! And down they go! I don't know what is happening to some

:22:42. > :22:51.of the passing out here. That is beautiful! That is skilful from

:22:52. > :22:58.Brett Morris! You would think they had been a set and wing combination

:22:59. > :23:03.all their life! Look at this! It was almost like an idle pass here over

:23:04. > :23:07.the shoulder. It is just like you receive the call of Hayne and knew

:23:08. > :23:17.where he was going to be! -- he received. The line has run! And

:23:18. > :23:29.Jarryd Hayne very much a contender here. This is fantastic from him. He

:23:30. > :23:32.just runs a great line, a nice late in line and certainly stakes his

:23:33. > :23:38.claim for a spot in the semifinal next weekend at Wembley.

:23:39. > :23:55.Oh! What a pass! Wow! Just out the back door! He shows great strength!

:23:56. > :24:04.You are loving this! That is the best! Give him man of the match!

:24:05. > :24:16.It was a tough scoreline on the USA, who will be a wonderful addition to

:24:17. > :24:19.this World Cup? Yes, get into the quarterfinals deserves massive

:24:20. > :24:28.recognition in itself. At I can't wait to see them in the future.

:24:29. > :24:34.Billy hobbled out. How much of a probable that the? We saw Inglis's

:24:35. > :24:38.prowess carrying five blokes and this is the incident itself. He

:24:39. > :24:46.lands on his bad knee and he is doubtful the semifinal. He is

:24:47. > :24:53.doubtful for the final. We have not even mentioned Boyd. Take your pick,

:24:54. > :24:58.I think. Jarryd Hayne. I think they are blessed with fullback and I

:24:59. > :25:09.think Inglis could do a really good job. Canon Fiji trouble Australia in

:25:10. > :25:15.the semifinal? -- Canon Fiji? I think they can because I think they

:25:16. > :25:18.were exceptional. Of the back of them, they can cause a bit of

:25:19. > :25:24.trouble for the Australians and Nikon wait to see them in action. I

:25:25. > :25:28.think it's going to be a cracker. And Australia have already been

:25:29. > :25:33.tested since that opening game against England. So we don't know

:25:34. > :25:36.where they are at. There's no doubt in my mind they are ready to play.

:25:37. > :25:42.They have great players, big players, and they know how to play

:25:43. > :25:47.on the big stage in the semifinals is the biggest stage of all. Well,

:25:48. > :25:52.Scotland's performance in the World Cup has been one of the highlights

:25:53. > :26:01.so far. Their reward for their performance was a match against

:26:02. > :26:08.these guys. COMMENTATOR: Off-loaded to the

:26:09. > :26:39.outside! The defending World Cup champs,

:26:40. > :26:43.looking good. Williams back to Johnson and play on, New Zealand!

:26:44. > :27:04.They only need one tackle! And he has gone over! Bromwich has a

:27:05. > :27:12.test drive for the Kiwis! It is just the weight of numbers and the

:27:13. > :27:19.physical prowess of this Kiwi team. They now have 28 for the tournament.

:27:20. > :27:32.And Roger that! They still got enough. It is just the confidence

:27:33. > :27:55.that they play with. They are losing confidence. -- oozing. And he scores

:27:56. > :27:57.the try for New Zealand! By the end of the night, that will be his run,

:27:58. > :28:14.17 metres! Johnson sprints away! Well, if only

:28:15. > :28:18.he was born in Scotland! But not tonight! There we go, left-hand

:28:19. > :28:30.bend. Another free try. They will end up on their own

:28:31. > :28:51.goal-line! He will sprint away and score,

:28:52. > :29:04.Tuivasa-Sheck! And outrageous Rugby League try! As soon is he comes down

:29:05. > :29:10.on two feet, boom, you kicks on. -- he.

:29:11. > :29:22.And a pass comes up! And he strode through! He must of thought, this is

:29:23. > :29:26.it, this is my big moment. -- he must have.

:29:27. > :29:36.He will get the try this time. They can't take this one from him! He

:29:37. > :29:45.scores again here, another test try in the career of a real star player

:29:46. > :29:55.of the Rugby League. So, you's going out to the sideline... No, I'm not.

:29:56. > :29:59.Then just ploughs his way over. 15 away and they build up and then they

:30:00. > :30:12.muddle in. You are not getting through him, Powell! -- mate. On the

:30:13. > :30:22.outside! And here it comes! Yes! Indeed! Scotland have scored the

:30:23. > :30:31.try! Burst out the bagpipes! Scotland is on the board! This was

:30:32. > :30:44.fantastic. He finished really well. They kick it across field. It was

:30:45. > :30:56.high. What a take! What a beautiful take. Leaks out of the ground. What

:30:57. > :31:00.a catch. Great catch. Scotland have been fantastic throughout this

:31:01. > :31:04.tournament. It would be wonderful if we could see a legacy up in Scotland

:31:05. > :31:09.from what they achieved. We used the word legacy a lot in sport. What

:31:10. > :31:13.does it mean? It means children inspired to play the game in

:31:14. > :31:18.Scotland. The clubs need to develop an infrastructure. At the moment

:31:19. > :31:21.that does not exist. That needs to happen off the back of this. It is

:31:22. > :31:29.part of the reason why it has been so great. You hope that happens. New

:31:30. > :31:34.Zealand were just awesome. Power, pace, creativity from everybody. I

:31:35. > :31:40.was lucky enough to be at this game and that is what impressed me. At

:31:41. > :31:45.times it was a little like men against boys. The physical presence

:31:46. > :31:49.of the four words is unbelievable. Just powering through people and

:31:50. > :31:53.knocking people over for fun. That is what is scary about them but they

:31:54. > :31:58.did not see too much pressure, although the Scots gave it a good

:31:59. > :32:01.go. Across the park everybody seems to be able to do everybody. Williams

:32:02. > :32:14.has been the headline. He takes the plot let's -- plaudits. Here, he is

:32:15. > :32:18.sidestepping and he goes down the sideline. That is the absolute

:32:19. > :32:21.brilliance of this New Zealand team. As we have seen with Australia

:32:22. > :32:31.later, the big boys are getting to rock 'n' roll. Sean Johnson, for me,

:32:32. > :32:40.Kieran foreign playing really well. -- Foran. Isaac Lucas has had a

:32:41. > :32:44.really good tournament. I think Michael Maguire has had a really

:32:45. > :32:53.good influence. His decision-making is great. -- Isaac Luke. He can run

:32:54. > :32:58.out and cause carnage. A real issue for England will be stopping him.

:32:59. > :33:04.What I have been most impressed with is his workrate in defence. He does

:33:05. > :33:13.not miss many tackles, from a small guy. It does not happen. The past

:33:14. > :33:16.selection has been great. I would reinforce that. He makes excellent

:33:17. > :33:28.decisions on the back of the physical prowess, he knows when to

:33:29. > :33:35.go to the fringes, and when to run. Is this a better team than when they

:33:36. > :33:39.won the title? I would say that but they have not been challenged. It is

:33:40. > :33:44.difficult to gauge where they are but they look very scary, especially

:33:45. > :33:50.when they don't seem to be in patches, just pretty solid all the

:33:51. > :33:53.time. Do you think they know how to play a tournament and the fact that

:33:54. > :34:00.they have not been tested does not really matter? Yes. The big guys

:34:01. > :34:06.have not really played each other. New Zealand are one of the best

:34:07. > :34:10.because they know how to do that. Could the real England team please

:34:11. > :34:15.stand up? We have seen great play and not so great play so far. They

:34:16. > :34:24.are looking to find chewing their game ahead of the expected matchup

:34:25. > :34:29.against New Zealand. The World Cup is important for England. Today, the

:34:30. > :34:34.examination is French. Let's see if they have done their homework

:34:35. > :34:42.properly. England's defence is working hard. Trying to drive

:34:43. > :34:52.through, get the past to reach for the line. He is over the line, he

:34:53. > :35:01.has got the try. The French, with a start. This was not in the script.

:35:02. > :35:09.He flicks it back. It is getting a little heated. He is standing in the

:35:10. > :35:15.stand-off position. Waiting for the early ball. The testing run at the

:35:16. > :35:21.French line. He flicks it back, looks for the space. He gets the

:35:22. > :35:26.try. How many times has that happened? England are back in the

:35:27. > :35:35.contest. If they were ever out of it. He doesn't miss many. England

:35:36. > :35:38.are level. Good one-handed pick-up from Sam Tomkins, already on the

:35:39. > :35:42.chase forward. Little stumble and he gets away. As another go happens,

:35:43. > :35:56.here's a handful. Strange dummy. Great ball. Great

:35:57. > :36:05.decision. Sam Tomkins with the finish.

:36:06. > :36:19.Just over 20 minutes played. Another finish for Josh Charnley. It is

:36:20. > :36:26.simple when there is a bit of quality on the side. He has a big

:36:27. > :36:39.smile on his face. Momentum building up for in going here. He is off.

:36:40. > :36:53.Spinning back. Take the defender. Gets his second try of the night.

:36:54. > :36:58.The wingers are having a party. He is a cross, dive for the line. That

:36:59. > :37:11.will be the end of the first half. It has been thoroughly engaging.

:37:12. > :37:17.England are content. You come Sam Burgess, collecting three defenders.

:37:18. > :37:36.He rolls it forward. You don't see that often. I've muscled.

:37:37. > :38:14.Has he ever scored an easier try than that? Another job well done.

:38:15. > :38:18.Very strong. I hope she doesn't smell them.

:38:19. > :38:26.Yes, she did. We will gloss over that bit. Steve McNamara shuffled

:38:27. > :38:34.the forward pack. What did you think? The pack is the strength. The

:38:35. > :38:38.options he has got, Sam Burgess is one of the best forwards in the

:38:39. > :38:48.world. James Graham is a standout performer. The statistics back that

:38:49. > :38:55.up. We talked about Fiji in wingers. He consistently does that. One of

:38:56. > :39:01.the great things he does is get to the shoulder of a defender. Quite

:39:02. > :39:06.often plays the ball quick. How important is it to have that kind

:39:07. > :39:14.him? A big decision from Steve McNamara. He is trailing behind him.

:39:15. > :39:17.They need to put them together. We can see Sam Tomkins, brilliant pass,

:39:18. > :39:23.you would question the French defence but take nothing away, we

:39:24. > :39:27.can see Graham in the scrum, you can play football, attract defenders and

:39:28. > :39:35.make a pass which opens up the outside. As a forward play yourself,

:39:36. > :39:40.when you watch the linkup he has got, do you know that you have

:39:41. > :39:43.somebody behind you like that? Obviously it is fantastic playing

:39:44. > :39:51.with the best players in the game really, and James Graham is no

:39:52. > :39:55.exception. But these are set plays, they do it week in, week out. In

:39:56. > :39:59.training, everyday. It is good to see them doing it and they have

:40:00. > :40:05.scored from the exact same place in the weeks previous. The biggest

:40:06. > :40:08.thing they have is variety. He can pass the ball, run the ball, the

:40:09. > :40:14.defence do not know what he is doing. He has got support. But the

:40:15. > :40:21.best thing for them to do is for him to play the ball, trail behind him,

:40:22. > :40:29.a great pass. This was the crispest piece of play that England should

:40:30. > :40:34.all day. I think fundamental will be the combination. Sam Burgess was

:40:35. > :40:39.moved to the second role. Is that looking at the next week? Read Mac I

:40:40. > :40:42.think he was tempted to look at that match but it might distract them and

:40:43. > :40:47.take the attention away from the team. They need to cause a bit of

:40:48. > :40:55.distraction but I think the balance of the team, James Roby has played

:40:56. > :41:00.well enough to force his way into the team. You need to balance that.

:41:01. > :41:08.They are two great teams. I am really confident that England will

:41:09. > :41:11.be a lot better. If they are going to defeat New Zealand the kicking

:41:12. > :41:16.game will be key. We did not see much from that. We need to see more

:41:17. > :41:33.of that. This is a massive part of the game. Fundamental. People don't

:41:34. > :41:37.recognise it. This is so important. If you get it out of your territory,

:41:38. > :41:41.you can defend off the back of that. We spoke about this. This is the

:41:42. > :41:53.favourite part of the game. Fantastic. Off the back of this, you

:41:54. > :41:59.can see that wall of white. This is the opportunity for them to turn the

:42:00. > :42:04.momentum and bail -- pin them into the corner. Where'd you go if you

:42:05. > :42:08.are New Zealand -- picking the team for New Zealand? I like Sam Williams

:42:09. > :42:20.in the middle of the free. -- field. And also Sam Ferris, he deserves an

:42:21. > :42:24.opportunity. Who do you want on the bench? What the guys showed last

:42:25. > :42:30.week, they have to do that ten or 15 times, they need to get New Zealand

:42:31. > :42:41.turning around a lot. They need to take the tank down, reduce the

:42:42. > :42:44.energy, kick well to do that. There is a debate, you need a player in

:42:45. > :42:49.form. He looked like he was up for it. I was very impressed with that.

:42:50. > :42:54.Sam Burgess, for me, has got to play in the middle. He needs to be the

:42:55. > :43:00.talismanic for the team. Thank goodness we are not picking the

:43:01. > :43:02.team. This is the final four in the 2013 Rugby World Cup. New Zealand

:43:03. > :43:11.take on England in the first Emmy final next Saturday, and Australia

:43:12. > :43:15.take on Fiji. -- semifinal. We have live coverage of New Zealand versus

:43:16. > :43:20.England next Saturday. Coverage starts on BBC One and BBC One HD at

:43:21. > :43:24.12:30pm. We will not make you wait so long to see highlights of both

:43:25. > :43:34.semifinals next weekend. We are on at 4pm on Sunday. There are just two

:43:35. > :43:40.weekends to go in what has been a fantastic tournament so far. There

:43:41. > :43:42.are just four teams left but they are the big ones. Goodbye.
