:00:29. > :00:34.It's impossible to walk through the gates of the Greenyards and not get

:00:35. > :00:38.a shutter of excitement on this most wonderful of days. They've been

:00:39. > :00:43.holding this Festival of Rugby for over 130 years. Today, 5,000 miles

:00:44. > :00:50.away, professional players are taking part in this shortened

:00:51. > :00:53.version of the game in the Hong Kong borders but here is where it all

:00:54. > :00:58.began. The players see it as an opportunity to follow in the foot

:00:59. > :01:08.steps of the great. Welcome to the Melrose servens. -- sevens.

:01:09. > :01:18.Strength, power, pace. Tradition, pride, honour. In the heart of the

:01:19. > :01:25.Scottish Borders, a Battle of Wit, skill and speed, a test of heart and

:01:26. > :01:33.spirit. Many stars have graced the hallowed turf. Heroes have been

:01:34. > :01:41.born, legends grown over time. Today, the Kings of 2017 will be

:01:42. > :01:50.crowned. This is Melrose, home to the oldest rugby Sevens tournament

:01:51. > :01:54.in the world. It truly is a wonderful day many the shadow of the

:01:55. > :01:58.hills for the Sevens. We are well into round two and the fans have

:01:59. > :02:02.turned out in their finery. They are in for a real treat, both from the

:02:03. > :02:10.concession stands and from the action on the pitch. It is going to

:02:11. > :02:14.be a real test of stamina and speed here at the Melrose Sevens 2017. Who

:02:15. > :02:18.will be the victors? Stay right here to find out.

:02:19. > :02:27.Hi, good to have you with us. Colin Gregor the former Scotland Sevens

:02:28. > :02:32.captain is with us. It's a warm day, we are baking hot in the studio.

:02:33. > :02:37.It's all about the ladies cup and one team will be lifting that about

:02:38. > :02:41.7 o'clock this evening. You can see it all here on BBC Two Scotland. We

:02:42. > :02:47.are already into round two. Let's jump up to the commentary box just

:02:48. > :02:57.now. John Beattie and Bill Johnston are up there. They have watched the

:02:58. > :03:01.action so far. What's happened? Well, the first round one, Kelso

:03:02. > :03:31.took the lead. It was very close in the tie between

:03:32. > :03:37.Hawkes and Stirling. Trotter scored the winner for Stirling County. The

:03:38. > :03:51.second border side to be knocked out was Hawick. They were beaten by Gha,

:03:52. > :04:02.35-7. Stewart's Melville were beaten by Selkirk. 20-14.

:04:03. > :04:09.And Boroughmuir beat Peebles, 33-14. They are looking dangerous. It was a

:04:10. > :04:12.tremendous tussle between these two, Dundee and Ayr but Dundee went

:04:13. > :04:23.through. Now, we are still to see some of the

:04:24. > :04:30.big names, but in the last game of the first round, Heriots too strong

:04:31. > :04:37.for Falkirk. That was 26-19. And there's the results of all the

:04:38. > :04:53.first round ties. Kelso put Marr away...

:04:54. > :05:04.Dundee were comfortable against Ayr. Boroughmuir looked good. As we

:05:05. > :05:24.stand, we are in the second half. Thank you, gentlemen. Lots more to

:05:25. > :05:28.come from the boys all during the afternoon here. Colin Gregor has

:05:29. > :05:32.been watching the action and has been involved in the action as well.

:05:33. > :05:36.We'll talk about that in a moment but hearing from all the great names

:05:37. > :05:42.and seeing the pictures, you get a real sense of the history of the

:05:43. > :05:46.event, a beautiful day, the sun is baking down, it's a good scene

:05:47. > :05:51.behind us? It's fantastic, the camera work, you see how stunning a

:05:52. > :05:55.setting Melrose is. It helps when the sun is out and the skies are

:05:56. > :05:59.blue. We have seen some exciting games, some top quality rugby and it

:06:00. > :06:03.bodes well with arguably the big teams still to come into the

:06:04. > :06:07.competition. You had your professional career for much of it

:06:08. > :06:09.as captain of the Scotland Sevens team, you have travelled over the

:06:10. > :06:16.world an represented your country with that thistle on your jersey.

:06:17. > :06:20.How important do you guys, the professionals, take this, and how

:06:21. > :06:25.does it still remain an important tournament in terms of Sevens? It

:06:26. > :06:28.serves a number of purposes, as does Sevens now that it's in the

:06:29. > :06:33.Olympics. It's becoming its own sport, there are opportunities for

:06:34. > :06:37.some of these guys to potentially follow a career into seven-a-side

:06:38. > :06:42.rugby. You saw with Edinburgh winning last year, Glasgow a couple

:06:43. > :06:45.of years before that how much it means for the professionals to come

:06:46. > :06:50.back and get an opportunity. In Scotland, for club players, you

:06:51. > :06:56.rarely get to play in front of 10,000, 11,000 people as you do in

:06:57. > :07:01.the Greenyard. It's a fantastic opportunity you saw how delighted

:07:02. > :07:04.the crowds are. You played in warm conditions and it's really warm here

:07:05. > :07:07.today. The team that win today will be not only the team that play the

:07:08. > :07:11.best rugby, but the team who can manage the stamina all the way to 7

:07:12. > :07:16.o'clock tonight. Exactly. That's always a huge part of a seven-a-side

:07:17. > :07:19.tournament, especially in the border circuit where you are playing four

:07:20. > :07:23.games in a day. You've got to be quick about how you recover and get

:07:24. > :07:28.your energy levels back up, game after game. That's where the

:07:29. > :07:35.professional players benefit because they're well conditioned. The likes

:07:36. > :07:40.of Melrose, they've experienced Sevens teams, they tend to come to

:07:41. > :08:18.the good as well. Let's have a look at the second round as it stands.

:08:19. > :08:24.Let's talk about the Stirling Edinburgh game. Stirling haven't

:08:25. > :08:29.been too successful but they beat Hawks and I believe you had a role

:08:30. > :08:34.to play in that, didn't you? Er... Yes. Disappointing and fair play to

:08:35. > :08:39.stirring that so often in Sevens the game goes down to after the final

:08:40. > :08:45.whistle and on this occasion Stirling Conservatived that

:08:46. > :08:49.fortunate try. We saw Logan Trotter who was quick. If you have pace,

:08:50. > :08:54.it's an advantage for you. Just 18 years old, played for County. You

:08:55. > :09:00.were coaching Hawks, so the audience at home now. You got to commentate

:09:01. > :09:05.and be in the studio and do all manner of things today so lucky you

:09:06. > :09:09.are not coaching today? The guys were good about that. Let's talk

:09:10. > :09:14.about the teams in the second round coming up as well. As John said,

:09:15. > :09:18.some of the big guns we are going to see them over the next hour or so in

:09:19. > :09:23.the Greenyards. Some big players and players hoping to build a reputation

:09:24. > :09:31.as a Sevens player. Which again is one of the exciting things.

:09:32. > :09:35.Watsonians won the Gala Sevens last weekend so Thirlwall versed.

:09:36. > :09:41.Melrose, the hosts, they're in the BT and League Cup final and they

:09:42. > :09:45.have a strong team out with well experienced Sevens players.

:09:46. > :09:50.Watsonians cantering in for another score after the final whistle. You

:09:51. > :09:54.have the likes of the invitational teams which is always excitingand

:09:55. > :10:01.special. Harlequins, a lot of the young guys, what are they going to

:10:02. > :10:07.be like as a team from the academy, how will they cope with the heat.

:10:08. > :10:10.The Co-optimists and the GSI seven made up from university students

:10:11. > :10:14.mainly from down south too. Also Sweden. It's fantastic for Swedish

:10:15. > :10:17.national Sevens teams to get an opportunity to play at Melrose. Who

:10:18. > :10:22.knows what they'll be like but it will be great to see them play. It

:10:23. > :10:26.will absolutely considering the difficulties they've had back home

:10:27. > :10:31.with the problems they've had and this morning they had a minutes'

:10:32. > :10:35.silence before the game started to pay respect to those who've lost

:10:36. > :10:38.their lives over there in the tragic events in Sweden. The boys will be

:10:39. > :10:44.on the pitch later representing their country, up against Heriots.

:10:45. > :10:55.So lots coming up on BBC Two Scotland. The next game will be

:10:56. > :11:00.interesting, Curriie against Jed. Scott Hastings and Bill Johnston are

:11:01. > :11:03.in the commentary box for us. We bid you a very warm welcome here

:11:04. > :11:14.to the commentary box at the green yards. We have the grandest view of

:11:15. > :11:17.proceedings below us. In front of us, Jed-forest against Currie and

:11:18. > :11:22.Scott Hastings is alongside me. Welcome. Great to be back here at

:11:23. > :11:29.Melrose. The conditions are absolutely perfect to play

:11:30. > :11:35.attacking, open, fluid seven-a-side. Men oi of experience in the Jed side

:11:36. > :11:42.with the brothers who've represented Scotland in the past. That was

:11:43. > :11:46.Gregory Young. Craig Cowan for Jed. Seven minutes each way. They play

:11:47. > :11:52.ten each way in the final. The players on this lovely hot day will

:11:53. > :11:56.feel that seven Phipps is long away. The sweeper across the back. Up

:11:57. > :12:03.comes his twin brother Lewis. Opening score for Jed. Lewis Young

:12:04. > :12:08.touches down. That's the pace these guys have, this pair, and it's the

:12:09. > :12:13.sort of thing you need in Sevens. We identified that from the off. They

:12:14. > :12:17.are a threat. Gregor Young there - I can hardly tell difference, I'm glad

:12:18. > :12:22.they have numbers on their jersey but Lewis runs it in. They're

:12:23. > :12:26.powerful, fit lads. They're ready for this and Jed will be a match for

:12:27. > :12:33.any side at the green yards this afternoon. Here is Lewis bobbing the

:12:34. > :12:42.ball. Has he got it? Just curved away wide. Jed leave 5-0. His

:12:43. > :12:44.brother will be asking what went wrong, he'll be saying, it was a

:12:45. > :13:06.sitter, what happened. Back come Currie. Down that far

:13:07. > :13:15.side. Lovely running. Campbell. Wilson. Nobody going to stop the

:13:16. > :13:18.Glasgow pro. He scores the try and the referee says the ball hit the

:13:19. > :13:27.ground so that is where the try will be scored and that's the line from

:13:28. > :13:31.which the conversion will be taken. Yes, he has that look. He came in,

:13:32. > :13:34.used the touch line got on the outside, great skill. Didn't

:13:35. > :13:39.actually touch the ball down there, but tripped on the uneven ground. He

:13:40. > :13:47.didn't put the ball down. Quite happy to go on. But the referee

:13:48. > :13:54.declared a try was scored and it makes the conversion harder for this

:13:55. > :13:59.Currie team. Just gone wide as well. All square after two-and-a-half

:14:00. > :14:04.minutes. And there's the big fella, he used to play for the Brumbies in

:14:05. > :14:09.Australia. He was in the Australia Sevens training squad. Obviously

:14:10. > :14:16.very much at home in this abbreviated version of the game.

:14:17. > :14:26.Lewis Young shadowed by number 7 which is Rory Smith. Young boys

:14:27. > :14:30.bobbing and heaving on the far side. Happy to tackle. Should he have done

:14:31. > :14:39.there? Might have been better to keep it loose. Here they come again.

:14:40. > :14:47.Melville remember Jedforest were the winners last year over all of the

:14:48. > :14:53.sevens in the circuit. And they were runners-up to Edinburgh here at the

:14:54. > :15:10.Greenyards when Edinburgh beaten 29-19 in the final. Wilson at the

:15:11. > :15:15.front. I often wonder, the referee is letting them get away with murder

:15:16. > :15:18.but if you are half a millimetre of being straight in the line-out they

:15:19. > :15:23.give you a loud blast of the whistle. You are right but it is

:15:24. > :15:31.free possession and when you have a game like this, possession is key,

:15:32. > :15:37.to give away possession so easily as Currie did there, it gives Jedforest

:15:38. > :15:40.a real chance to attack. The messed up scrummage ball but still they got

:15:41. > :15:46.it out, Lewis Young using pace on the outside. Here is good fellow. I

:15:47. > :15:54.think it's went forward there in the contact. Young Wilson didn't manage

:15:55. > :16:00.to get his hands on it. The areas with the great dilemma grey cap. He

:16:01. > :16:12.is going to be the hooker in the scrummage. Look at the Sunshine

:16:13. > :16:20.baking down. Andrew care, goodness knows how many medals he has won.

:16:21. > :16:22.Duncan Wilson from Currie, also played for Edinborough Accies.

:16:23. > :16:34.Well-known in vets tournament yesterday. Well tackled on the far

:16:35. > :16:41.side. Jedforest get a penalty. All square at 5-5. A member they play

:16:42. > :16:49.seven minutes in the opening half. Great defence there. Tremendous

:16:50. > :16:53.tackle from Robbie. The often talk about the attack and refocus on the

:16:54. > :16:59.attack within sevens but the defence is so key and water super tackle.

:17:00. > :17:04.Young committed the penalty and once again Jedforest with real pressure

:17:05. > :17:11.here. Gillon looking for space out why. Here goes Lewis Young. Currie

:17:12. > :17:16.have the line across the field that you can see there might be space.

:17:17. > :17:24.Robert Hogg thinks not. Goodfellow with a one-handed off-load.

:17:25. > :17:34.Beautifully done. Trying the corner. -- try it in. Gibb used to play at

:17:35. > :17:42.the Melrose club. Tremendous wraparound move here, the one hand

:17:43. > :17:47.pass on to the outside, super seven strive for Jedforest. It is the

:17:48. > :17:52.passing going in front of the man that makes it easy for the runners

:17:53. > :18:05.to take and not break momentum. Here is Lewis Young. 25 years of age, six

:18:06. > :18:13.foot four. A big lad. I can hear gasps from all over the Greenyards

:18:14. > :18:18.at that effort. All of the skills here on show. First of all Robert

:18:19. > :18:21.Hogg delivers the as and then the one-handed pass, a two-handed pass

:18:22. > :18:31.from Goodfellow found his marker on the outside and Gibb in for another

:18:32. > :18:36.Jedforest Drive. Ten points in five, no conversions yet. A lovely piece

:18:37. > :18:47.of running. Smith away. Great school coming up for Currie but what

:18:48. > :19:01.tackled thereby Gillon. And there is half-time. Tries by Gibb, tries by

:19:02. > :19:08.Young. Here is that run again. Backs himself Cameron Smith, a cross comes

:19:09. > :19:12.Chris Gillen, what an important tackle. Bang on half time there and

:19:13. > :19:23.it just allows Jedforest the breeder with to try lead. Tremendous couple

:19:24. > :19:29.of tackles in the Jedforest defence. They have one minutes for the

:19:30. > :19:33.interval here in this format and they won't have time to take on the

:19:34. > :19:42.lovely views up in the background that there is Gibb of the manager.

:19:43. > :19:46.Keeping hydrated. Almost fish out the Goldfish bowl, you just sat in

:19:47. > :19:52.the oxygen and reset again. A quick turnaround, quick words of comfort

:19:53. > :19:59.from the coaches and the managers and off you go again. There they

:20:00. > :20:02.are. They've not quite gotten into the picnic hampers and flasks but

:20:03. > :20:06.there will be there shortly I would think because here we are 20 past

:20:07. > :20:10.two on this lovely Saturday afternoon here in the Borders. Some

:20:11. > :20:14.guys taking on refreshments and making sure they are rehydrated in

:20:15. > :20:23.the crowd. A big crowd today. Must be 10,000. There will be more coming

:20:24. > :20:34.in as the afternoon progresses. Meanwhile 10-5 Jedforest lead.

:20:35. > :20:51.Robert Hogg tries to get it for Jedforest but it bounces awkwardly.

:20:52. > :20:57.Robert Hogg on the side and I think it is Craig Cowin in the middle.

:20:58. > :21:09.Sean Goodfellow away on the far side he is usually a scrum-half. Picked

:21:10. > :21:20.up there by Charlie Shield, nice running. What a lovely piece of

:21:21. > :21:25.running by Rory Smith. Five world deserved points for Currie which

:21:26. > :21:29.gets them level. Sometimes when a player backs himself and gets an

:21:30. > :21:37.angle. The minute he got that he decided to go on the run. Teasing

:21:38. > :21:44.the defence. Tremendous run and Smith escapes the tackle and scores

:21:45. > :21:51.a good try. Down below is young Charlie Shield. Viewers may remember

:21:52. > :21:56.his dad Graham Shiel to use to play here and had a number of caps for

:21:57. > :22:05.Scotland I dare say his father will have a few words of wisdom is about

:22:06. > :22:16.the way that kick went wired and they are eight minutes into this.

:22:17. > :22:29.Seven minutes each way. She had with the restart drop out. Gillon at the

:22:30. > :22:43.long singing pass out the midfield. The past two Gibb was a bit iffy.

:22:44. > :22:51.Looking for a gap in the middle. Goodfellow again moving the ball ran

:22:52. > :23:09.the gap. 3-1 on the side. A nicely timed pass. No knock-on. Not quite

:23:10. > :23:17.the cutting edge. Give looking for support. The referee spotted it good

:23:18. > :23:25.officiating on the far side there. You can just see the overrun there.

:23:26. > :23:37.So easily done. It is always having the discipline to hold your line.

:23:38. > :23:46.You can see the microphone at the front of the referee. A big heave by

:23:47. > :23:59.Jedforest upsetting the Gibb possession. Great burst of pace. A

:24:00. > :24:06.lovely run here. Campbell Wilson and then passed on to McGinlay. Gibb

:24:07. > :24:18.have men out wide. That could be a yellow card.

:24:19. > :24:38.Just held up. Just an offside squad and I think it was Lewis Young.

:24:39. > :24:44.Lewis Young died over it, yellow carded two minutes in the sin-bin.

:24:45. > :24:48.-- dived. Periods in the top left of your picture. In he comes and makes

:24:49. > :24:59.a nuisance of himself in an offside position and denies Gibb the

:25:00. > :25:06.possession. Rory Smith to the right here. They are open to the far side.

:25:07. > :25:12.Shield spotted the man is widen the way he goes. Desperate time for

:25:13. > :25:21.Jedforest, two minute the sin-bin for Young. Jedforest get a penalty,

:25:22. > :25:27.that could be a life-saver. 10-10. The finalists last year up against

:25:28. > :25:32.it. I would use the clock now. Slow down for the line-outs. It is going

:25:33. > :25:43.to be tough against seven men for the sixth of Currie. Robert Hogg why

:25:44. > :25:51.pass. The off-load, the pass round the body. Great tackling by Currie.

:25:52. > :25:58.No offside there. The chance here again for McGinlay. That could be

:25:59. > :26:09.the winner for Currie, it certainly puts them ahead 15-10. Great try by

:26:10. > :26:13.Scott McGinlay. With Lewis Young in the sin-bin there was a way space

:26:14. > :26:22.out wide and Scott McGinlay, it was the past by Charlie Shield, the

:26:23. > :26:27.space was always out wide and the extra man and the extra long has

:26:28. > :26:36.made that try. Is that the one that gets them into the next round? Here

:26:37. > :26:41.is the conversion attempt. The flag stays down so it remains 15-10. The

:26:42. > :26:49.clock in the left-hand side when it reaches 14 minutes is full-time. And

:26:50. > :26:54.so Gibb with the advantage of the scoreline. How crucial is the lack

:26:55. > :26:57.of conversions going to cost this much's Jedforest will fancy an

:26:58. > :27:11.opportunity with the young brothers back on the pitch now. Lewis Young,

:27:12. > :27:21.not quite the flaring pace of last year I feel. Gibb is in all sorts of

:27:22. > :27:28.trouble there. Currie are forming, they are like Wasps. They will try

:27:29. > :27:33.to get away. He has. He need somebody with him. Will he go all

:27:34. > :27:36.the way, this would be a magnificent score if he gets there. What

:27:37. > :27:43.attacker there. That was Charlie Shield getting back. Frantic fight

:27:44. > :27:48.for possession. The clock tells us they are into stoppage time. The

:27:49. > :27:59.clock tells us that that is full-time and so it's a win for

:28:00. > :28:11.Currie over Jedforest. Look at the joy on their faces there. I'm joined

:28:12. > :28:16.by Fergus Scott, are you pleased? Very much so, the boys stuck in,

:28:17. > :28:19.credit Jedforest, always a strong sevens outfit and they really put us

:28:20. > :28:23.under pressure and we were hanging on but I think the yellow card was

:28:24. > :28:26.the turning point. Managed to keep possession and held on at the end.

:28:27. > :28:35.Really chuffed for the boys, they worked hard. Any targets? We have

:28:36. > :28:39.come in with the belief and the teams under pressure and the first

:28:40. > :28:50.couple of tyres we have shown that so there is no stopping how far we

:28:51. > :28:53.can go. Here we are. Gibb through. This is Edinborough Accies on the

:28:54. > :29:07.blue-and-white against Stirling County. Some big names. Ben Apple

:29:08. > :29:11.son of Mark Apple Store in the sevens expert, this would be a

:29:12. > :29:19.cracker at Melrose and alongside me anywhere. What great weather.

:29:20. > :29:36.Great spectacle so far. Edinborough Accies were beaten last weekend at

:29:37. > :29:38.the Gala sevens plenty of pace and this man flies through and Kent is

:29:39. > :29:49.under the post. Makes life easy when you play Sevens

:29:50. > :29:53.when you have got a bit of speed and a bit of speed Robbie Kent had

:29:54. > :29:57.there. Saw a little gap. You only need that in this game at the moment

:29:58. > :29:59.and a very important start there to Edinburgh. So quick in the game.

:30:00. > :30:18.Seven points up. The conversion was good. Plenty of

:30:19. > :30:31.gas in this Accies team. Stirling County through, they beat Hawks in

:30:32. > :30:38.the first round. County showed enough gumption. Appleson, a real

:30:39. > :30:49.flyer. Inside to Robbie Chalmers, son of Craig. Lots of men out to the

:30:50. > :30:55.left. Soul. To the left hand side. The long passing. It will be a try

:30:56. > :31:05.for Jamie Soul. He had a couple last weekend.

:31:06. > :31:11.Accies are making Edburg good work of this. Edinburgh have making the

:31:12. > :31:15.most of it. Good running from all players there, using the ball. They

:31:16. > :31:20.are not taking too much contact, as we can see. Stirling are losing the

:31:21. > :31:31.ball, you can't afford to do that. That was a well-worked try with

:31:32. > :31:38.Jamie Soul taking the glory. Soul has a good piece of gas. This was

:31:39. > :31:44.the break originally by Bruce. Look at that muscle! The gas was over

:31:45. > :31:49.three yards. Yes, going well! He'll be pleased to hear that. And his dad

:31:50. > :32:02.as well. He had a bit of gas over maybe ten yards! Good work. It shows

:32:03. > :32:06.you how old we are when we see the mates we used to play with, see

:32:07. > :32:16.their sons. Must be a very proud moment when your sons play at a

:32:17. > :32:20.venue like this. Accies in possession. They have lots who can

:32:21. > :32:24.go the length. A bit of untidy play there. Look at the conditions here

:32:25. > :32:33.at Melrose. Stunning day. Every time we come here, the weather is

:32:34. > :32:40.absolutely stunning. That must be one of the views in world rugby. You

:32:41. > :32:43.look at that Doddie and you played here and everybody who organises

:32:44. > :32:46.this tournament must be incredibly proud. Takes a lot of people

:32:47. > :32:48.behind-the-scenes to organise something like this. Everyone plays

:32:49. > :33:16.a part in it. Such a great venue. Lewis. Appleson. To Winks. Dancing

:33:17. > :33:20.feet there. Made light work of that defensive effort. Came off his left

:33:21. > :33:31.foot, spotted the gap and romped in 30 metres. Let us have another look.

:33:32. > :33:47.You can't afford to miss the tackles.

:33:48. > :33:55.Appleson converted the two points. His dad was involved in the Co-op

:33:56. > :34:00.with me 20 plus years ago to win this tournament. Can't afford to

:34:01. > :34:04.miss tackles. Stirling have done that a couple of times. Advantage

:34:05. > :34:13.gained, Edinburgh Accies made the most of that and scored under the

:34:14. > :34:20.post. Appleson. Passed to Chalmers. To Kent. Kent thinks about it and

:34:21. > :34:28.gets bundled into touch. Trotter scored earlier on in the first

:34:29. > :34:41.round. That young lad, Logan Trotter, we know he can go the

:34:42. > :34:48.length so brave to go outside him. Accies are well organised. Clash

:34:49. > :35:03.Stirling struggling to get into this game. Men out on the left hand side.

:35:04. > :35:30.Edinburgh Accies ball. Good support play by Bruce. Two handoffs. Got to

:35:31. > :35:35.keep hold of it. That was good linking play and the ball is out to

:35:36. > :35:40.Winks. He looks up and doesn't need Soul. Winks is in for a try. That's

:35:41. > :35:42.a belter, one end of the pitch to the other. That is exciting to

:35:43. > :36:04.watch. Extra couple of seconds to get the

:36:05. > :36:07.ball and make the decision. You could see what the difference means

:36:08. > :36:17.when you have the speed. Appleson with the conversion. 26 points to

:36:18. > :36:21.the good for Edinburgh. Looks like a dead game for Stirling. Winks draws

:36:22. > :36:28.the defender there and that wiz a good run in. Accies looking - they

:36:29. > :36:32.lost last weekend to Watsonians - but they have a well-balanced team.

:36:33. > :36:34.Some of the big guns still to come here this afternoon. The Accies so

:36:35. > :36:53.far looking strong. They were involved in Gala last

:36:54. > :36:57.week. You can train as hard as you want but game time is what it was

:36:58. > :37:00.about. There's the crowd. My daughter is around there, I'm a

:37:01. > :37:04.concerned father, she's there somewhere. We have the student match

:37:05. > :37:09.coming up and lots of people coming here today. Not entirely sure what

:37:10. > :37:14.that head set is for, maybe you will know! It's becoming a young

:37:15. > :37:18.audience, the Sevens. He's not so young there, Ronnie Kirkpatrick,

:37:19. > :37:30.great old fellow of the Jed-Forest rugby team.

:37:31. > :37:48.A Way bit of fancy dress giving me a run for my money. I think he's got

:37:49. > :38:00.that all wrong! Second half. 26-0. Got to ground quickly. Jack Bruce. A

:38:01. > :38:06.beautiful bit of running from Ben Appleson. A cracking piece of

:38:07. > :38:11.defence. To all intents an purposes, Appleson was through, he maybe just

:38:12. > :38:16.relaxed. Beautiful tackling from Logan Trotter. A bit of pride in

:38:17. > :38:22.Stirling. They don't like the score. They are looking into the sunshine.

:38:23. > :38:24.Sam Johnston still keeps it. Lays the ball inside. Being tracked by

:38:25. > :38:41.Bruce. It's a game of chess. Johnson is

:38:42. > :39:01.through. Good fielding penalty. You can hear

:39:02. > :39:12.the referee saying, you can't come in from the side. It's been closely

:39:13. > :39:18.refereed. You come in through the behind foot and if you come in this

:39:19. > :39:28.side you get penalised and that's what's happened there. Soul. Good

:39:29. > :39:34.running by Wicks. We have already seen this big powerful player --

:39:35. > :39:42.Winks. And thank you very much, you sit down, I'll run the length. And

:39:43. > :39:49.Winks adds another five points to the score board for Accies. Stirling

:39:50. > :39:54.County were trying to get back in there. You could see Sam Johnson,

:39:55. > :39:59.you can't afford that. Missed the tackle, didn't use the touchline.

:40:00. > :40:04.Also putting all the players upfront. Sometimes you see a sweeper

:40:05. > :40:08.that might have caught that man, Winks but still they are not playing

:40:09. > :40:12.with that tactic. One tackle makes all the difference. If you miss,

:40:13. > :40:20.this is what can happen. There was if conversion. Easy does it. 33-0.

:40:21. > :40:31.Nearly ten minutes gone. Longer kick this time over the head of Jay sob

:40:32. > :40:40.Adamson. Small slight figure. -- Jacob. Gives it to Sinclair. Trotter

:40:41. > :40:52.the speed man. The Accies defence system is holding up. Lovely break.

:40:53. > :40:58.Emmerson says he's had enough. That's a great break and a very good

:40:59. > :41:08.try by Stirling County. Consolation try. One-and-a-half minutes to go.

:41:09. > :41:17.They deserve it. They have competed hard. They found the space. Tongue

:41:18. > :41:24.out ready to go. Good try, he'll be happy with that. Some big guns still

:41:25. > :41:28.to come. GSI Invitation coach by Richie Gray. Harlequins, the

:41:29. > :41:34.Co-optimists, some of the Irish Sevens players. The Swedish national

:41:35. > :41:39.Sevens team are ready and waiting after what's happened in their

:41:40. > :41:48.country - earlier on, there was some time spent remembering that. Great

:41:49. > :41:58.chasing by Glation. And another romp in this time from Tom Drennon.

:41:59. > :42:06.Edinburgh Angies in a sleighly different class -- Edinburgh Accies.

:42:07. > :42:14.You can see Stirling have kind of given up. Lovely fantastic skills to

:42:15. > :42:18.see there. Stirling, when you do that, it's all about support. No-one

:42:19. > :42:25.was willing to run back. You've got to help your man there. Edinburgh

:42:26. > :42:31.Accies are on the front foot and have been ever since the start

:42:32. > :42:42.pretty much. There's the Edinburgh Accies bench. They'll be happy.

:42:43. > :42:44.Loads of experience there. His father played for Gala. It's fathers

:42:45. > :42:53.and sons day here. Edinburgh Accies again just all over

:42:54. > :43:06.them. Good interception though by emmayorson who scored the try. --

:43:07. > :43:10.emmerson. Trotter. Inside ball to Jacob Adamson, slipping, has he

:43:11. > :43:15.pulled a hamstring? No, he's fine. Another try by Adamson. And the boys

:43:16. > :43:22.off the bench have made an impact. They have that. Just having a look

:43:23. > :43:28.to see, miss a couple there. Nearly tripped himself up. Couldn't believe

:43:29. > :43:31.the space he was in. That was a good well-taken try by Adamson.

:43:32. > :43:35.Consolation in some ways but it shows you that they could play the

:43:36. > :43:40.game, they could get stuck in against Accies. Too much too late.

:43:41. > :43:46.That is an absolute paich of a kick -- peach of a kick. Out on the

:43:47. > :43:59.15-yard line. Allowing Stirling County to win the ball back. The

:44:00. > :44:11.first quarter-final is going to be Watsonians v Currie. Cluts the ball

:44:12. > :44:17.down. And three quick tries not enough to turn this around for

:44:18. > :44:23.Stirling County. Good play nonetheless. He's always the danger

:44:24. > :44:30.man. Good, strob strong hand off there. Lovely to see the boys with

:44:31. > :44:38.the one hand on the ball. Very dangerous in one way but very

:44:39. > :44:47.skilled on the on the other hand. The end of the match now, 40-19.

:44:48. > :44:51.There's Jamie Souls. What a game it's been, Stirling County

:44:52. > :45:00.19-Edinburgh Accies 40. I have a man with you knows plenty

:45:01. > :45:06.about sevens rugby. Would you make about your team there? The first

:45:07. > :45:11.half we were outstanding. We didn't allow them to have the ball and with

:45:12. > :45:14.the confidence. You don't know what Stirling County will do so the most

:45:15. > :45:21.pleasing aspect was the way we looked after the ball. Delighted.

:45:22. > :45:25.Some famous names in the team, living up to the surnames. They are

:45:26. > :45:28.all doing OK apart from my son who is rubbish. We are delighted with

:45:29. > :45:37.the effort and looking forward to playing the next tournament. While

:45:38. > :45:51.the next tide coming up sees one of the guest teams Harlequins taking on

:45:52. > :45:55.GHA GHA won the first round tie 35-7 this of course the second round.

:45:56. > :45:58.Harlequins all selected from the academy setup and coached by former

:45:59. > :46:02.England and Lions player turned up rose.

:46:03. > :46:11.Alongside me Scott Hastings is Colin Gregor, former Scotland sevens

:46:12. > :46:16.captain and a real chance for GHA to take a scalp of one of the guest

:46:17. > :46:19.teams? Indeed and sometimes having the benefit of that first game where

:46:20. > :46:25.they comfortably won whereas Harlequins coming in fresh getting

:46:26. > :46:29.your lungs off can be difficult so this will be interesting to see how

:46:30. > :46:33.these two match-up. Harlequins up and over the ten metre line.

:46:34. > :46:49.Retaining the possession, tremendous tackle. They forced the penalty. For

:46:50. > :46:55.GHA, one of the stars of their outfits Jericevich has worn a

:46:56. > :47:02.Scottish jersey. A dodgy pass picked up by Charlie Walker. He has

:47:03. > :47:03.represented England, 24 years of age. Down for Harlequins opening

:47:04. > :47:17.try. Classic hospital pass. Not going to

:47:18. > :47:20.thank your team-mates for that. Charlie Walker, you don't want to

:47:21. > :47:27.give him any space and he will lap it up all day. After a shaky start

:47:28. > :47:35.from Harlequins, they needed it to calm their nerves. Seize the

:47:36. > :47:44.conversion nice and easy, over it goes. Of course the scoring team

:47:45. > :47:50.takes the restart. Charlie Walker made his debut against Gloucester in

:47:51. > :47:58.September 2011 so as I mentioned, the more experienced head in this

:47:59. > :48:06.academy team. Cameron King sets off the attack for GHA. A little bit

:48:07. > :48:10.scrappy at the bottom but through Jericevich a longer pass. Find his

:48:11. > :48:32.target on the outside. Good covering tackle.

:48:33. > :48:41.Has played for Lithuania and on the European Grand Prix circuit. Periods

:48:42. > :48:49.again. He is a huge unit Mikalcius. GHA defending down in the 22. All

:48:50. > :48:53.about possession. Good attackers coming in thick and fast from GHA

:48:54. > :49:00.but the ball spilled so good defence on that far side. Excellent

:49:01. > :49:08.scrambled defence, not willing to accept defeat as we see should be a

:49:09. > :49:12.scorer all should retain possession but as loses the ball. GHA showing

:49:13. > :49:17.there is no such thing as a lost cause. The Harlequins so far looking

:49:18. > :49:27.to go tides, not playing with a lot of with to the game. GHA defending

:49:28. > :49:33.well. Attacking from behind the try line, risky stuff. Got it out wide

:49:34. > :49:43.though. GHA just stretching the play. Andras Bauer. The ball loose

:49:44. > :49:53.at the back though. The knock-on costing them there. The ball lost by

:49:54. > :49:57.Sam Mollison. GHA losing the ball a few times in contact, we know how

:49:58. > :50:03.important maintaining the contact is in sevens. Once you get tackle it is

:50:04. > :50:05.treasuring the ball and getting a hard fight to get it in the good

:50:06. > :50:24.position to clear away. James Laing receives the ball. At

:50:25. > :50:30.Walker. Again good pace by Walker, look how easy he made its, Charlie

:50:31. > :50:38.Walker in for his second try of the tie. Out and outpace sentiment this

:50:39. > :50:45.way. Quality individual skill that we see there, just slows down and

:50:46. > :50:49.encourages GHA out. Just slightly out of position and Charlie Walker

:50:50. > :50:56.recognises that and he is so quick, so shop off the mark. Quality

:50:57. > :51:03.individual. James Lamb with the conversion, good for the under 18

:51:04. > :51:08.Scotland former. Also represented the students in his time. As a bit

:51:09. > :51:15.of experience as well, 22 years of age earlier this week. Warren

:51:16. > :51:34.Abrahams there on the right of your picture, coach of the Academy outfit

:51:35. > :51:41.the ball knocked on. Real hopes for that young flying machine areas in

:51:42. > :51:46.the bottom left Ibitoye 19 years of age. Looking to see if he can have a

:51:47. > :51:52.go on the outside. He has been with the Harlequins since he was aged 12.

:51:53. > :52:01.Is that right? He's a virtual at the age of 19. GHA had a punch of the

:52:02. > :52:11.Harlequins half yet, being forced to attack from the deep. He was in

:52:12. > :52:21.support now? Jericevich try to beat Walker. While tackled, the ball

:52:22. > :52:28.comes loose there. That goes to Robinson. Normal service resumed

:52:29. > :52:36.from Harlequins. Advantage was being played. Two converted tries and

:52:37. > :52:46.Harlequins lead. 20 seconds left on the clock. Handed possession to GHA

:52:47. > :52:53.and a great attacking opportunity to close out the half. Quality break

:52:54. > :52:59.through the middle, these look fairly similar. I think he realised

:53:00. > :53:03.there was a bit of a gap and again just maintaining possession at the

:53:04. > :53:05.breakdown and they have this opportunity with the scrum.

:53:06. > :53:13.Important to get a score before half-time. Step back then, the ball

:53:14. > :53:20.released from Mollison. Cameron King, comes to the nearside, wearing

:53:21. > :53:30.the scrum cap is Campbell. Over the 22 Campbell. The tackle is made

:53:31. > :53:37.there by Lamb of Harlequins. Campbell with the quick tap restart.

:53:38. > :53:42.The off-load didn't meet its maker. Harlequins come away with the ball,

:53:43. > :53:50.if they get it out wide, Ibitoye is on the outside but backing

:53:51. > :53:57.themselves going all the way. James Lamb having converted to tries

:53:58. > :54:04.scores one himself and closes out the half. Three tries to the good

:54:05. > :54:06.with a conversion come. So dangerous with the counterattack, the Valley

:54:07. > :54:10.of possession in sevens, if you do turn it over it is getting your

:54:11. > :54:15.defensive shape. GHA tarring at the end of the half unable to do that.

:54:16. > :54:21.Harlequins with enough pace to really punish the full length of the

:54:22. > :54:29.pitch. A big ask for GHA coming back from this now. Colin your rights

:54:30. > :54:38.because the first tie it was GHA with all the possession. They won

:54:39. > :54:47.that 35-7 but quite going their way against the Harlequins. The

:54:48. > :54:51.half-time score hurts 21-0. -- here. Tony get pros would be joining the

:54:52. > :54:58.views. It really is a marvellous setting here. Big crowds were here

:54:59. > :55:03.early doors, the first tie got under 11:30am. It's just before 3pm now

:55:04. > :55:11.and they have been enjoying a feast of rugby. With the sun beaming down

:55:12. > :55:14.it makes it more enjoyable the atmosphere building at those

:55:15. > :55:17.throughout the day the Greenyards. We are seeing one of the

:55:18. > :55:22.Invitational team is looking strong in that first half there are, their

:55:23. > :55:27.opening game, the physicality and the pace they are bringing looks

:55:28. > :55:31.like it is too much for GHA to cope with. You wonder if he will be

:55:32. > :55:35.donning a jersey if few years to go. 20 years ago the Harlequins lift the

:55:36. > :55:39.title here and they had the Prince of Nigeria playing on that day, it

:55:40. > :55:45.was Andrew Harriman and always good fun here Colin Gregor. Played many

:55:46. > :55:48.times here and it's an absolute pleasure to bring all this action

:55:49. > :55:54.for this wonderful setting and search history in the game. 1883 was

:55:55. > :56:00.the first tournament and some of the greats in the game David Campese,

:56:01. > :56:14.Philip Sele and some tremendous players. Colin you played against

:56:15. > :56:18.him on a few occasions? Is an absolute legend and a real joy to

:56:19. > :56:24.watch. He played the game in the right way with a smile on its face

:56:25. > :56:28.and always quality running one ball in one hand, throwing the float on

:56:29. > :56:33.the side steps, he could easily make you look silly as the defender. The

:56:34. > :56:37.key for me is being an Olympic sport now with Fiji having won the medal

:56:38. > :56:44.back in Rio, we talk about Saint Andrews being the home of golf, what

:56:45. > :56:49.an asset that is per to be called the sevens rugby, folks were lawyers

:56:50. > :56:52.come to the Greenyards for a pilgrimage of the sevens game. They

:56:53. > :56:57.do and it is growing worldwide, the fact it is now in the Olympics it is

:56:58. > :57:00.huge for the sport. It is amazing for these young Scottish players and

:57:01. > :57:06.the young Harlequins Guidetti, and experience a sevens tournament.

:57:07. > :57:17.Their very first sevens tournament still well supported. Good defence

:57:18. > :57:26.from GHA, they held Lamb and got the turnover. GHA will have the putting

:57:27. > :57:30.at scrum. If you fancy following the sport around the world, the World

:57:31. > :57:37.Cup sevens will be in San Francisco in July next year. If you fancy a

:57:38. > :57:40.trip then start putting away the pound coins, you can't use your old

:57:41. > :57:54.Palm: so will remind you that. Back to the action. -- pound coins.

:57:55. > :58:00.In for the try is Ibitoye. If this game was in any doubt before that I

:58:01. > :58:08.think that is Harlequins safely through. Again urge assuring the

:58:09. > :58:11.physicality that they have and dominating the scrum, shunting GHA

:58:12. > :58:21.oft bearable and then the execution of the basic skills and get enough

:58:22. > :58:26.space for Ibitoye to go over. An unconventional Jokic, three

:58:27. > :58:33.converted tries and Ibitoye got the fourth. Just simple execution from

:58:34. > :58:49.the turnover, draw the defender passed the man in space and repeat.

:58:50. > :58:55.The ball comes back then and the first look at Lewis Jones with a

:58:56. > :59:06.bubbling pass. Waters hit the tackle. Jordan Campbell... Came off

:59:07. > :59:12.Campbell as he tackled, the ball went forward so the Harlequins will

:59:13. > :59:15.have the putting just over the 22. A nice opening game for Harlequins.

:59:16. > :59:21.They have opened up the lungs and stretch their legs but they've not

:59:22. > :59:27.been tested too much. The next game as they progress, if they progress

:59:28. > :59:31.they will be challenged. Sometimes when you are starting first off, GHA

:59:32. > :59:36.with a tie, they haven't had much fluency. Ibitoye comes back. That is

:59:37. > :59:50.the 22, the ball dislodged though. Addison through the wide pass.

:59:51. > :59:59.Cameron King bringing it down the nearside. Nowhere to go, the Quins

:00:00. > :00:04.defence up well, pressing. Six Quins players at the bottom of the

:00:05. > :00:11.picture, the sweeper being used. Jonas Mikalcius. If you work hard

:00:12. > :00:16.together to get the defensive line set and we can see Harlequins, the

:00:17. > :00:22.spacing between players is good. They can apply pressure

:00:23. > :00:27.collectively. GHA looking for a sidestep and space but there isn't

:00:28. > :00:33.any. When you attack from deep, it is hard, especially under pressure.

:00:34. > :00:36.Harlequins have the additional pace. They almost breakthrough with the

:00:37. > :01:01.off-load, GHA. GHA losing any shape they may have

:01:02. > :01:06.had in attack, being swamped by the Harlequins defence. The fact

:01:07. > :01:12.Harlequins have extra pace, it means GHA do not have the luxury of giving

:01:13. > :01:16.it to the quick guy to make yards and the physicality that served

:01:17. > :01:20.Harlequins well in the first half, forcing another turnover. Charlie

:01:21. > :01:26.Walker showing class. A hat-trick for Charlie Walker. Showing his

:01:27. > :01:31.class all around in this young academy team. They try built from

:01:32. > :01:38.their defence, relentless, not letting GHA out of their own half.

:01:39. > :01:42.Once they win the turnover, the GHA defends slightly disjointed. You

:01:43. > :01:43.could see the communication fell on deaf ears. Charlie Walker canters

:01:44. > :01:57.through the gap. On the day of the Grand National,

:01:58. > :02:00.cantering. They will be running faster at Aintree and certainly the

:02:01. > :02:08.Harlequins players when put under pressure. Edinburgh Accies were

:02:09. > :02:12.looking strong in the game before Harlequins and that is who

:02:13. > :02:18.Harlequins face next. That will be a great game to get us into the second

:02:19. > :02:30.of the quarterfinals. Edinburgh Aki 's winning 40-19 over Stirling

:02:31. > :02:37.County. It has been a very convincing start by Quins.

:02:38. > :02:44.Jericevich fed the outside to Addison. Addison has had experience

:02:45. > :03:00.on the Scotland circuit. GHA switched play from Ross Findlay.

:03:01. > :03:08.Jericevich with that reverse flip pass to Campbell, who has space. He

:03:09. > :03:17.will need support. Across here, the Quins sweeper. James Laing making a

:03:18. > :03:23.good tackle for Quins. Harlequins are quick to get their defensive

:03:24. > :03:28.line set. They do not miss many tackles, if any, which makes it hard

:03:29. > :03:33.for GHA, who have kept the ball effectively put it is breaking the

:03:34. > :03:40.Harlequins defence down. A challenge for Edinburgh Accies in the next

:03:41. > :03:46.game. They have not had the pace to match Quins, who have all-round

:03:47. > :03:50.athleticism and their structure in the game has denied GHA space. You

:03:51. > :03:54.cannot fault GHA's effort, they have continued to try. It is the

:03:55. > :04:03.physicality in defence and extra pace as we see another breakaway try

:04:04. > :04:11.from our Lithuanian friend, Jonas Mikalcius. The Quins spotted this

:04:12. > :04:17.youngster a couple of years ago in Exeter. That is the full-time score.

:04:18. > :04:23.The conversion will not count because the final whistle has gone.

:04:24. > :04:31.Confirmation, Harlequins winning brat, 38-0.

:04:32. > :04:42.The Harlequins coach is with me. Some what it means to be part of the

:04:43. > :04:48.tournament. It is an honour. It is our 150th year. Coming here is a

:04:49. > :04:55.massive thing. You are the stellar name in the drawer and I assume you

:04:56. > :05:00.are here to win it. You can see they have been playing 15s a lot. A lot

:05:01. > :05:04.of contact. I was impressed with Edinburgh Accies. They will give us

:05:05. > :05:11.a test in the next round. Best of luck. We come to the fifth

:05:12. > :05:28.round of round two. Selkirk and GSI. Selkirk off to the left. Visitors

:05:29. > :05:48.GSI, which is a composite team brought together by a former Gala

:05:49. > :05:54.player and captain, Richie Gray. This fella can run. Just a bit too

:05:55. > :06:00.fast and slick in the opening minutes of this tie. He touches

:06:01. > :06:11.down. He gets the first score on the board.

:06:12. > :06:21.Global Sport Innovation. Over goes the conversion from Alan Holden.

:06:22. > :06:27.Bill, lovely to share your company and what a splendid day, we even

:06:28. > :06:32.have the windows out in the commentary box. We will hear a lot

:06:33. > :06:41.from this talented and fast individual. A lot of the players,

:06:42. > :06:54.you can see why. Alan Holden again. Look at the

:06:55. > :06:58.sidestep on this lad. Are they as quick as the previous team,

:06:59. > :07:09.Harlequins? I wonder. Over for a try. Victor Pizzano. I think they

:07:10. > :07:13.have changed their jersey numbers. We will find out in a minute who it

:07:14. > :07:21.was. Look at this lad. He plays for Bristol. If he was a couple of

:07:22. > :07:26.inches taller, he would have got the score himself. Selkirk, even early

:07:27. > :07:33.on, losing shape. I do not know what they are thinking at the moment.

:07:34. > :07:43.They have played a lot of good sevens. Nixon, one example. Selkirk

:07:44. > :07:51.need to try to work that little bit harder, otherwise GSI, it will be

:07:52. > :08:05.one-way traffic. It is indeed. Number three for GSI is Josh

:08:06. > :08:22.Longson. Releasing the tackle by the guest side. Perfect for sevens. This

:08:23. > :08:26.guy can run. Adams, from South Africa. Look at him go. Nobody can

:08:27. > :08:37.catch this fella. What a piece of running. He was chased, he just got

:08:38. > :08:42.there. Adams gets a try for Selkirk. That was a fine piece of running. It

:08:43. > :08:51.certainly was. He has had a great season. Playing very well. He has a

:08:52. > :08:58.bit of gas. Almost gave him the commentator's curse. The saying he

:08:59. > :09:04.will catch up. But arriving in the nick of time. An important try.

:09:05. > :09:10.Unfortunately, the missed conversion, which could be vital.

:09:11. > :09:22.Did you ever run as far as that for a try in your career? Definitely

:09:23. > :09:37.not. I saw the footage before. Mikey Davis with the restart. This is

:09:38. > :09:53.mainly university students. Selkirk in white, pressing up, but trailing.

:09:54. > :10:04.Alan Holden is one of these several peace men in that side.

:10:05. > :10:12.They have done well. It is funny sevens, the GSI team looks like they

:10:13. > :10:17.had the upper hand at the start, scoring from the kick-off but credit

:10:18. > :10:18.where it is due, Selkirk are back into this game. Sticking to a nice

:10:19. > :10:45.structure. Clapperton with the put in. What a

:10:46. > :10:50.score by Selkirk's winger. The gap narrows. Second try for Adams. An

:10:51. > :11:03.individual try. He saw what he had to do. He backed himself. Enough

:11:04. > :11:08.momentum to slide along the ground and get the all important try that

:11:09. > :11:14.brings Selkirk right back into this game. The conversion went wide. That

:11:15. > :11:20.is the man of the moment. Strongly built, very fast and a great asset

:11:21. > :11:26.to Selkirk rugby this season. Looking for professional rugby, he

:11:27. > :11:30.was telling me. Anywhere at all. I do not know if the professional

:11:31. > :11:37.scouts are looking at Melrose Sevens today to see if they can spy any

:11:38. > :11:51.potential will stop meanwhile, the big burly forward takes the restart.

:11:52. > :11:54.The pass dipped. He just felt himself losing his balance.

:11:55. > :12:03.Kick-offs have been vital in the games. The captain of the GSI side,

:12:04. > :12:11.Nixon named the Barrel, a stocky individual, winning the ball, but

:12:12. > :12:20.unfortunately losing it. Davis again. Can this guy get his

:12:21. > :12:27.hat-trick? Clapperton really is the Mikey Davis, the two masterminds of

:12:28. > :12:40.this Selkirk seven. Davis, look at the balance. I love watching that.

:12:41. > :12:50.They can skip and dance beautifully these wee fellas. It is half-time.

:12:51. > :12:54.The GSI 7 lead Selkirk 14-10. And we have had tremendous action in the

:12:55. > :13:11.opening ties of this lovely afternoon at the Greenyards.

:13:12. > :13:34.Just look at that backdrop and the scores from round two so far.

:13:35. > :13:38.Watsonians comfortably through. Currie and Jed had a great tie and

:13:39. > :13:47.last year's finalist Jed-forest out in that time. Edinburgh Accies

:13:48. > :13:55.looked very businesslike. Harlequins looking good against GHA. It is

:13:56. > :14:00.half-time in GSI 7 against Selkirk. Other great ties coming up over the

:14:01. > :14:05.next part of the afternoon. Big George is alongside me, keeping the

:14:06. > :14:11.right and looking resplendent in his tartan suit. Feeling a bit heart at

:14:12. > :14:18.the moment, Bill, feeling a little out of place in the commentary box

:14:19. > :14:23.in this tartan suit. The pick at the moment, the Edinburgh Aki 's team

:14:24. > :14:33.doing well. Harlequins. GSI did well in the first half, but it is not

:14:34. > :14:40.over yet. Selkirk, four points adrift at the moment. But this game

:14:41. > :14:44.is wide open. Anything could happen. It would be a feather in the cap of

:14:45. > :14:52.Selkirk if they could put this team away. Mikey Davis was chased hard by

:14:53. > :15:05.Harrison. The guest side looked good in practice and trading this week,

:15:06. > :15:06.finding it hard to break clear. Amidst the chaos. Selkirk have

:15:07. > :15:17.regrouped. The opportunities are happening.

:15:18. > :15:23.Selkirk are the favourites of the crowd here at Melrose, who tend to

:15:24. > :15:29.favour the Borders sides because there are not many left in the

:15:30. > :15:37.tournament at the moment. Selkirk were runners-up. They lost to

:15:38. > :15:55.Hawick. Selkirk in white looking business.

:15:56. > :16:00.Very nice pass out wide. These Selkirk numbers I have to be honest,

:16:01. > :16:07.I think that was a replacement who came on. Josh Wells or McEwan. They

:16:08. > :16:16.have kept the pace man on, he is just down below us, Adams. Goes

:16:17. > :16:27.down. Clapperton again. Takes it to the main stand. Here is Nixon. A

:16:28. > :16:29.penalty just when they didn't want it, so an opportunity for the guest

:16:30. > :16:47.side to score again and open up. Quick play here, possibly not the

:16:48. > :16:54.best pay. Very fortunately they have won the ball back. Davis almost got

:16:55. > :17:02.away there, Mark Harrison pulled him down. They come Selkirk again,

:17:03. > :17:08.careful and cautious and they just need to take their time building.

:17:09. > :17:15.That was Josh whilst trying to burst through. Here they go again.

:17:16. > :17:21.Sidestep, a desperate time here, Selkirk on the up and up. Half a

:17:22. > :17:31.metre short of the try line. Must be a score. That puts them ahead by one

:17:32. > :17:38.point. They worked very hard for that. Some passing behind which we

:17:39. > :17:53.saw in previous games not working well. It went to hand there. Very

:17:54. > :18:00.well worked try. Very difficult. It brings Selkirk writes back into the

:18:01. > :18:03.game. If Davies can pop over the conversion that will give them a

:18:04. > :18:16.lift. Doesn't get much closer than that. 15-14.

:18:17. > :18:20.A lovely off-load their in the build-up. Just the backpass there

:18:21. > :18:28.which created the momentum to go forward. And then the big fellow

:18:29. > :18:44.Ross Nixon over and down. Lovely. So the restart again. Ollie Hudson,

:18:45. > :18:50.taps it back. Long Sun to Jimmy Neill.

:18:51. > :18:59.This is the Niemand Cameron Ness who came in as a late edition --

:19:00. > :19:04.Niemand. One of the players hurt his ankle in training yesterday. Credit

:19:05. > :19:09.where credit is due, the GSI boys are competing very well. They've all

:19:10. > :19:13.come from different universities and backgrounds, they have been together

:19:14. > :19:18.for a day up in Edinburgh. They have seen the delights of her and they

:19:19. > :19:23.are competing well and Selkirk be to know this.

:19:24. > :19:30.Calum McEwan at scrum-half. Here is Nixon, has he found another way

:19:31. > :19:38.through? Great score coming up, that is the winner. A lovely try for Matt

:19:39. > :19:51.Robertson. Great stuff there by the borderers. 20-14. These boots are

:19:52. > :19:55.working well. Just didn't have the gas to get there but we talk about

:19:56. > :20:01.it, the supporters needed and the support was certainly there are not

:20:02. > :20:08.a beautiful trophy. He should take his time. I think they have 30 or 40

:20:09. > :20:13.seconds to take the conversion. Six points of the lead with a couple of

:20:14. > :20:30.minutes to go. 20-14. Selkirk lead. That was almost

:20:31. > :20:47.another there. Some of the people in Melrose will

:20:48. > :20:52.be wondering why Selkirk are wearing Melrose strips, that is because

:20:53. > :20:55.there was a colour clash. Selkirk are actually in the white strip

:20:56. > :21:04.there which is a Melrose change strip. Here is Jimmy Neill would put

:21:05. > :21:12.in for GSI sevens. Look at Selkirk getting stuck in. A nice wee tap

:21:13. > :21:15.back. There is Clapperton. The old head of the operation who has Adams

:21:16. > :21:29.out wide if they care to use him, this lad can run. Here it goes

:21:30. > :21:35.again. Robertson. Is that is Nixon away? Ross Nixon again. Supported

:21:36. > :21:45.thereby Callum McEwan. McEwan are snapping at the heels. Huge ball.

:21:46. > :21:52.Robinson again. Adams on the left. Robertson in at the corner almost.

:21:53. > :21:58.Great pictures there from the cameras write-down in corner.

:21:59. > :22:10.Selkirk not releasing so a penalty coming the way of the guest side.

:22:11. > :22:13.Quite exciting stuff this, sorry to butt him but we have a time clock on

:22:14. > :22:21.our monitor here and am having a look around the Greenyards here and

:22:22. > :22:27.I don't think oh there is. The players know that as the full-time

:22:28. > :22:33.or the playing time of 40 minutes up. It is indeed because Darren

:22:34. > :22:39.Clapperton is in no two minds about what he would do with that. He belts

:22:40. > :22:44.its right into the stand and so a bit of a surprise package. Selkirk

:22:45. > :22:45.go through into the quarterfinal because they have beaten the guest

:22:46. > :22:59.side GSI sevens by 20-14. The Selkirk coach with me, your boys

:23:00. > :23:04.came back well? They did and they stuck in it. You

:23:05. > :23:08.don't know what to expect from GSI is so we were fortunate to have some

:23:09. > :23:18.luck together. We have a strong squad today so I'm pleased. Any

:23:19. > :23:22.thoughts how far you can go? It's a tough tournament. A lot of strong

:23:23. > :23:26.side to side I'm going to take it one day at a time. All credit to the

:23:27. > :23:30.lads, a great victory against the guest side.

:23:31. > :23:40.Probably a good result for the competition, Selkirk through and the

:23:41. > :23:47.next Melrose side up, only two left, it's now Melrose versus Dundee.

:23:48. > :23:59.Melrose in the yellow strip and it's their ground. Lots to play for.

:24:00. > :24:22.Dundee deepen their own 22 trying run it. A loose good kick past.

:24:23. > :24:30.Inside to the big number and don't be cocky young fellow. Does a little

:24:31. > :24:34.dance and we spoke about colour clashes and this is important is

:24:35. > :24:40.Scott Hastings. As a Zach Line of dancing. What a great shrine.

:24:41. > :24:45.Sometimes in seven to just after back yourself and George Arnott, the

:24:46. > :24:53.number one he liked that one. Not so sure about the dance afterwards.

:24:54. > :25:00.Part and parcel of sevens rugby. If and you know it, you've got to clap

:25:01. > :25:07.your hands. But he's happy, he knew it and he did this. Arnott with his

:25:08. > :25:14.head down here smiling. Pointing to what could be friends in the crowd

:25:15. > :25:21.and that is a belly flop. And here's the little dance as well. The icing

:25:22. > :25:26.on top of the cake. I think that is maybe try of the day before we have

:25:27. > :25:35.even started. It is a serious business though, Melrose cannot

:25:36. > :25:43.afford not to progress. Another kick through, desperate stakes to defend.

:25:44. > :25:51.Selkirk will play the winners of this match and at the moment Dundee

:25:52. > :25:54.7-0 up. Then eaten possession to settle themselves down and if they

:25:55. > :26:03.can get a try on the board than am sure the crowd will react

:26:04. > :26:13.accordingly. Man without the ball. It was Watts out to the side.

:26:14. > :26:29.Godsmark -- Godsmark. Finds plenty of bodies. Hess on the outside. A

:26:30. > :26:43.cracking tackle there. This is good play by Melrose. From Hess, a little

:26:44. > :26:52.outside break to Luckington. Looks inside and tried to feeding Craig

:26:53. > :26:58.Jackson. Penalties as the referee. You can just see how Melrose are

:26:59. > :27:05.building the ways of attack. Austin Luckington sounds and MI5 employee.

:27:06. > :27:12.You confuse the government agency with a motorway. There is the try

:27:13. > :27:20.down the left-hand side. Melrose back in the van. Godsmark, such

:27:21. > :27:26.experience in the Scotland jersey as well, cut back on the angle, the

:27:27. > :27:46.ball just comes back here, the great use of space because it was taken

:27:47. > :27:54.and. Look at the view though. They have flags in the wind and this is

:27:55. > :27:59.how they build and build. Some quick passing from passing down the

:28:00. > :28:04.left-hand side for a well crafted try as you say. The ball put

:28:05. > :28:15.straight out so done do back on the attack. That's just poor rugby.

:28:16. > :28:30.Juice gives possession right back to Melrose. Little dancing steps.

:28:31. > :28:37.Trying to get the ball into space, picked up by Lockington. Melrose

:28:38. > :28:48.dominating now. Laid off to the left. A long looping pass. As to

:28:49. > :28:53.collect his thoughts. Quick possession and has to come back. A

:28:54. > :28:59.little dummy from Iain Moody and that is another try. As you say

:29:00. > :29:06.Dundee kicked the ball away and if you kick the ball away that is what

:29:07. > :29:11.will happen. Possession is key, Melrose capitalising on good player

:29:12. > :29:17.and normally a step back from Hess, again look at where the spaces,

:29:18. > :29:30.always on the flanks. The dummy pass was shown by Moodie. Melrose after

:29:31. > :29:36.that early frights, they did this good little dummy as Moodie, a big

:29:37. > :29:39.strong lad, interesting when you watch the pros play they are

:29:40. > :29:41.normally bigger than some of the club players but Melrose looking fit

:29:42. > :29:57.and strong. Jackson is a flyer. Great off-loads

:29:58. > :30:05.to Nyle Godsmark. You can see that Melrose are stringing together the

:30:06. > :30:13.passes. Big hit, good tackle. He is gently still rubbing his ribs. A

:30:14. > :30:18.running down the left. Irvine-Hess again to Jackson, Jackson

:30:19. > :30:25.intercepted all the way back by Blake Cochrane from Dundee high

:30:26. > :30:33.school. A penalty to Melrose. -- Blair Cochrane. Pecqueur, lovely

:30:34. > :30:42.step, that is what happens. Lockington. The tackle may have

:30:43. > :30:47.given Dundee a breather. But Melrose are going through the gears. Since

:30:48. > :30:52.Dundee kicked all the way they have not had the ball, Melrose dominating

:30:53. > :31:04.possession, and getting the one on one mismatch. Jackson with the

:31:05. > :31:14.conversion. Good tries. Irvine-Hess moving on and looking at the

:31:15. > :31:21.individual footwork. The back-up play that is going through. And a

:31:22. > :31:33.lot of little bits of interplay from Melrose players. Dundee getting

:31:34. > :31:40.frustrated. 7-19 to Melrose. Lots of Melrose fans having a great day at

:31:41. > :31:44.the Greenyards. There they are, with the yellow strips. It is key for the

:31:45. > :31:50.tournament the likes of Melrose gets through. We have still to see the

:31:51. > :31:54.co-optimists. We have the Quins already. A massive crowd this

:31:55. > :32:11.afternoon. Sometimes in your life it is best to shut your eyes. Melrose

:32:12. > :32:21.retained the possession. Exactly. Next score is crucial. Dundee must

:32:22. > :32:28.score next. Dundee kick-off is knocked on. It will be a scrum to

:32:29. > :32:33.Dundee, inside the Melrose half. What is the difference between these

:32:34. > :32:43.two just now I think it is 12 points! I knew... Purely possession.

:32:44. > :32:48.The way that Melrose look more comfortable on the ball. There is

:32:49. > :32:53.more structure. For me they have been the standout team in club rugby

:32:54. > :33:03.at 15s, can they match it on the sevens field? You have the likes of

:33:04. > :33:11.Pecqueur, Jackson, Irvine-Hess, lots of people who can run. Lockington,

:33:12. > :33:24.ball under the right hand, knocked on. Dundee need to get something on

:33:25. > :33:31.the board quickly. Kaleem Barreto. The referee is not happy. He is

:33:32. > :33:36.going into his pocket. I wonder if we will see this again. I think

:33:37. > :33:39.Kaleem Barreto was just thinking of getting this ball down the pitch.

:33:40. > :33:46.Irvine-Hess has been contracted with Edinburgh. It looks worse than it

:33:47. > :33:55.actually is. He went up originally to charge the kick. He is in the

:33:56. > :34:02.sin-bin. Dangerous play. Isoa Matacagi, number 11. Ronan Joy gave

:34:03. > :34:14.it to Andy Dymock. Melrose possession again. They are a man

:34:15. > :34:24.down, what are they going to do? Jackson. Nailed by two blue jerseys.

:34:25. > :34:30.The ball has been ripped away. Isoa Matacagi just gives Dundee a

:34:31. > :34:39.glimmer, because they have the man advantage. The ball taken off the

:34:40. > :34:44.Melrose players. The next score was crucial. Seven players against these

:34:45. > :34:51.six of Melrose. The conversion is good. Now we have a type. This makes

:34:52. > :34:55.sevens rugby fascinating. Melrose were dominating, Dundee have one

:34:56. > :35:03.back. Tremendous footwork from the Dundee man. He is delighted. They

:35:04. > :35:10.are a man up. Not long until, I think 70 seconds, until Melrose get

:35:11. > :35:15.their man back. I agree, it was not a huge infringement, but they are a

:35:16. > :35:22.man down. The kick-off really important, Dundee need to get bodies

:35:23. > :35:29.under it. Which they did. Dangerous times for Melrose with Dundee

:35:30. > :35:39.possession. Ronan Joy. He had two minds. Smothered by yellow jerseys.

:35:40. > :35:44.Kaleem Barreto looking up. Daniel Levison, well, my goodness, Scott

:35:45. > :35:55.Hastings, this is Melrose in trouble at their own tournament. 19 apiece.

:35:56. > :36:02.Dangerous times. Dundee have done well, tremendous passing out wide.

:36:03. > :36:10.The line was at his call and he backed himself. Conversion really

:36:11. > :36:17.important here. It would be a tremendous conversion if he got it,

:36:18. > :36:25.look at the angle. Andy Dymock. All square. Great pass, the pass made

:36:26. > :36:41.the tribe for me. Melrose are back up to seven with

:36:42. > :36:48.three minutes left. Intercepted by Nyle Godsmark. Much better for

:36:49. > :36:55.Melrose. Nyle Godsmark confident, distributes the ball. Jason Baggott

:36:56. > :37:00.is over and that is what happens when you get the ball from the

:37:01. > :37:05.kick-off and your good players are in possession. Jason Baggott might

:37:06. > :37:09.have ranked the winning try, without any doubt. Tremendous. -- might have

:37:10. > :37:24.backed it. Really standout play. Individual

:37:25. > :37:29.skill. Yes, you can have pace and brawn, but it is these stepping

:37:30. > :37:35.ability that can beat the men one-on-one and Melrose back in

:37:36. > :37:42.control. This was the start, Jason Baggott, comes back inside, strong

:37:43. > :37:50.and big enough. Gets as far behind the posts as he can. Melrose

:37:51. > :37:57.comfortably seven points ahead. The sun behind them. Look to be knocked

:37:58. > :38:12.on by Alasdair Mackie. The referee says play on. Rutnagur. Caught in

:38:13. > :38:20.the grasp of Nyle Godsmark. It will be a Melrose scrum. You look at two

:38:21. > :38:24.great passes from Dundee to stretch that, but Melrose squeezed down the

:38:25. > :38:31.space, made the tackle, forced the turnover. A minute and easing

:38:32. > :38:35.Melrose in possession, they should see out this time. If they can keep

:38:36. > :38:43.possession the next 60 seconds, they are through to the next round.

:38:44. > :38:54.Quite a wind going right to left, so they have the sun and wind behind

:38:55. > :38:59.them. A little bit of bravery here. Great bravery from Pecqueur. He

:39:00. > :39:04.thought about it, took his man on the outside after being put wide by

:39:05. > :39:10.Lockington and Melrose, that will be then, I think, through to the next

:39:11. > :39:19.round. A great type, seesaw action. Dundee pegging it back to 19-19, but

:39:20. > :39:23.Melrose, Pecqueur stretching the Melrose lead. That sees them into

:39:24. > :39:33.the quarterfinal. This will be the final act at of this enthralling

:39:34. > :39:47.game. Final score looks to be Dundee 19-31 Melrose. Good game, good

:39:48. > :39:50.tries. We can get to Andy. The Melrose head coach with me. A

:39:51. > :39:58.lot of relieved people you are through. Tough. The first ones are

:39:59. > :40:03.harder! A little nervous. It is good we have got through that and we will

:40:04. > :40:07.see how we go. How important for the tournament is it the home side

:40:08. > :40:13.remains to the latter stages? It is important, but we will take it one

:40:14. > :40:22.step at a time. Good luck in the next round.

:40:23. > :40:30.Next up sees another guest team, Co-optimists against Boroughmuir.

:40:31. > :40:38.Look at this setting. The teams are out. Boroughmuir on the right of

:40:39. > :40:47.your picture and they beat Peebles in Round 1 by 33-14. The

:40:48. > :40:54.Co-optimists, they were in the white jerseys, they are a seeded team and

:40:55. > :41:00.so they are in round two. The Scottish Co-optimists, but laced

:41:01. > :41:05.with Irish men. We have a former international sevens player in the

:41:06. > :41:13.commentary box. That was a nice introduction. Also a winner here,

:41:14. > :41:23.you forgot to say. But with the Co-ops. 93. I thought you were going

:41:24. > :41:34.to remind me 1997, when Melrose beat Watsonians. I played in that one.

:41:35. > :41:45.Lennon one of the Irish development players.

:41:46. > :41:53.Steve Toal-Lennon, first had sight of him in Monaco when he was playing

:41:54. > :42:07.with the Irish team in the prequalifying tournament.

:42:08. > :42:14.Boroughmuir flying into the contact but the Co-optimists seeing if they

:42:15. > :42:30.can get the ball out wide. Taking the ball back in. Good play. Keenan.

:42:31. > :42:35.What a lovely try from Hugo Keenan. One of the best of the day at

:42:36. > :42:40.individual skill. Carved open the Boroughmuir difference. Very much.

:42:41. > :42:51.One of the best individual tries we have seen so far, by Keenan. Puts

:42:52. > :42:58.his side in the lead just after two minutes. It was even up to this

:42:59. > :43:00.stage. There was no give. Playing between the 22s. There was one

:43:01. > :43:14.break, he saw the gap. A clean pair of heels right under

:43:15. > :43:20.the posts. Toal-Lennon with the conversion is good, but Hugo Keenan,

:43:21. > :43:32.well, he is part of the Yazidi and Leinster Academy and he showed his

:43:33. > :43:37.class. Here is the try scorer. -- Yazidi. You cannot afford to miss

:43:38. > :43:44.tackles against quality players like this. He is one of the young kids.

:43:45. > :43:50.He was part of the Irish squad that went to Portugal and was in a

:43:51. > :43:57.training camp in February against Spain and Portugal. Again, the gas

:43:58. > :44:03.coming on. Number 10. Greg O'Shea. A young development player from the

:44:04. > :44:08.Shannon club, part of the Munster Academy. It is the pace that is

:44:09. > :44:14.ripping this Boroughmuir side. You say that, but it was like when you

:44:15. > :44:18.scored the try is take the glory. From the kick-off, the forwards

:44:19. > :44:25.winning the ball. Passing to the slinky boys at the back, like

:44:26. > :44:29.yourself, and you take the glory! That was fascinating, from the

:44:30. > :44:35.second row, like myself, seeing someone leaping to get hold of the

:44:36. > :44:42.ball. To see the vision of O'Shea, at speed. You never got off your

:44:43. > :44:45.legs even in a line-out. This is another look at the try. Tremendous.

:44:46. > :44:54.Taking a leap. But it is a skill in its own right.

:44:55. > :45:14.It starts from the kick-off here. A knock-on there, Matthew Walker to

:45:15. > :45:22.grab the ball but the ball knocked on and once again Boroughmuir

:45:23. > :45:32.haven't had the ball to have any influence. Connors, good bit of

:45:33. > :45:34.competition in the air for Boroughmuir to knock it on and

:45:35. > :45:54.ultimately get the ball back. This is a third travel Toal-Lennon

:45:55. > :45:56.and they are making it look so easy. Co-Optimists are making

:45:57. > :46:07.opportunities there, again setups by the forwards. Toal-Lennon they're

:46:08. > :46:14.showing a nice clean pair of heels. Co-Optimists looking good. They have

:46:15. > :46:19.a bit of gas there. Three forwards in sevens and fallbacks. Tries by

:46:20. > :46:31.Keenan and Greg O'Shea and that man there, Toal-Lennon. Certainly high

:46:32. > :46:35.but not got the direction. A healthy lead for the Co-Optimists, looking

:46:36. > :46:41.at this they are staying big and powerful. Didn't see that before

:46:42. > :46:47.will miss all the melee. You could see a missed tackle from

:46:48. > :46:52.Boroughmuir. You have to try to keep a hold of them. That didn't happen

:46:53. > :46:56.and it allowed Toal-Lennon just to get away and a clean pair of heels

:46:57. > :47:05.to score a very important try for Co-Optimists. Another good

:47:06. > :47:27.scrum-half. A knock-on there. Still the same tactic, that is the

:47:28. > :47:32.way that it is working. Just a knock-on that time didn't get the

:47:33. > :47:38.rub of the green. We haven't seen Boroughmuir in the Co-Optimists half

:47:39. > :47:45.although here is their chance. Boroughmuir breaking out and on the

:47:46. > :48:00.wide outside is Jordan Edmonds. He has had a sparkling season and gets

:48:01. > :48:16.one back for Boroughmuir. I'm just having a look. Once again. That

:48:17. > :48:21.young man there, the top try scorer in the tournament so far.

:48:22. > :48:28.Boroughmuir winning the opening tie 33-14. He had three about one and

:48:29. > :48:45.here is his fourth one. Half-time here. 17-5. 50 years ago back in 19

:48:46. > :48:48.57 they won the ladies cup and I been told by the Melrose boys to

:48:49. > :48:52.remind that they haven't won it since. They're having a celebratory

:48:53. > :48:57.lunch today and Alec Jackson and Welsh are here today. You played in

:48:58. > :49:03.the final say give us a sense of the memories from that day. For myself

:49:04. > :49:09.it was utterly unbelievable because I was the last person who played for

:49:10. > :49:12.them in the sevens and my brother had previously tried and not got a

:49:13. > :49:16.Melrose medal so for me I was lucky to be in the right place at the

:49:17. > :49:21.right time. It was tremendous, it's really was. Something I will never

:49:22. > :49:24.forget. It's important to win this for any rugby player but when you

:49:25. > :49:30.come from a whole week and you have this rivalry? Melrose with a big

:49:31. > :49:36.want to win, the Melrose medal. Thereof a lot of good rugby players

:49:37. > :49:44.who don't have Melrose medals and I managed two of them. 66 and 67 and

:49:45. > :49:50.that is the time. Happy days and I'm sure you're happy to remind them all

:49:51. > :49:53.about it here. It's a lovely idea, 50 ideas celebrating your great

:49:54. > :50:02.achievement for those many years ago and I have to say looking very well.

:50:03. > :50:06.Can't complain really. There is no forwards here and fortunately. They

:50:07. > :50:13.are the work courses. They really are. That is the telling thing. The

:50:14. > :50:18.forwards won the ball and we did the running and I was it. And take the

:50:19. > :50:27.glory as well. Boys have a magic day.

:50:28. > :50:32.COMMENTATOR: Well that was 50 years ago. Some tremendous shots there. It

:50:33. > :50:36.means so much to everybody who competed. You are spot on, the

:50:37. > :50:40.footage there of the boys it shows you how special getting a winner 's

:50:41. > :50:54.medal at Melrose was then and still is now. The co-optimists well in the

:50:55. > :51:01.lead here. The ball picked up. Look at that little slip past. Didn't

:51:02. > :51:12.quite get it outside. Boroughmuir have to reset the line. Co-Optimists

:51:13. > :51:20.have meant out. Stretching play and that was Route 14 Connors wasn't it.

:51:21. > :51:30.The breakaway comes from lead lot. Helter-skelter staff. Ripping the

:51:31. > :51:39.ball away was Ronan care. The dwell there. Boroughmuir need to get some

:51:40. > :51:50.wit, not getting in much space down the tight angles. Just a lack of

:51:51. > :52:00.concentration. He saw the eyes just moving off the ball there. Looking

:52:01. > :52:04.at the wrong thing. All down to himself. Had it in the hands. Should

:52:05. > :52:10.have caught that. A nice easy pass. You have to feel sorry for him.

:52:11. > :52:16.Should have been taken Lescott. Allows Co-Optimists a scrum in a

:52:17. > :52:23.competitive place. Toal-Lennon gets the pass away but a knock-on there.

:52:24. > :52:31.I don't know if it is the weather or something, we have seen quite a lot

:52:32. > :52:41.of unforced errors. A couple in the last 20 seconds, whether the heat is

:52:42. > :52:49.playing a part. These games all about accuracy when the skills are

:52:50. > :52:51.always under the microscope. That ball Lucas saying out of the tunnel

:52:52. > :53:03.-- ricocheting. Not a real scrum how it used to be.

:53:04. > :53:09.Scrum is generally filled by centres and wingers nowadays. Who haven't a

:53:10. > :53:17.clue about the tough stuff. Tackle on the far side. Now Boroughmuir get

:53:18. > :53:24.to the ten metre line. Under pressure and the ball bouncing away

:53:25. > :53:30.there. A little chip and run. Boroughmuir got back well there.

:53:31. > :53:40.That certainly wasn't the correct path. Plenty of space, plenty of

:53:41. > :53:50.time. If he was able to pick that ball up, a lot of support coming in.

:53:51. > :53:55.Just the same as the first task Boroughmuir struggling to get any

:53:56. > :54:04.territory and having to attack deep. They're super tackle therefrom

:54:05. > :54:11.Keenan. Boroughmuir up to the ten yard line. Nice bit of skill there.

:54:12. > :54:18.The pass hasn't found his man and Sam Johnstone. Now Boroughmuir still

:54:19. > :54:21.with a ball in hand. That is the ten metre line. Was that a little bit

:54:22. > :54:37.high? Play on says the referee. The referee is a man from wiki who

:54:38. > :54:44.has been at many of the Melrose seven. Doesn't seem to be too

:54:45. > :54:48.affected. Turnover though from Hodson for the Co-Optimists. They

:54:49. > :54:53.have numbers over here and surely this is a running however a forward

:54:54. > :55:05.pass and again that accuracy of skill that we talk about we thought

:55:06. > :55:10.there was a high tackle we might get a replay so we can maybe see it. You

:55:11. > :55:14.are correct the accuracy is what this game is all about. The accuracy

:55:15. > :55:21.and support and keeping the momentum going. You're spot-on with that.

:55:22. > :55:27.They just seem to be taking on contact and playing a bit too slow.

:55:28. > :55:35.Switch play the over they pass by Chris Ludlow. Wraparound play by

:55:36. > :55:43.Matthew Walker. Boroughmuir desperate to try to find space. Big

:55:44. > :55:52.tackle that came in there from David Busby. Look at the White line of the

:55:53. > :55:57.Toal-Lennon putting pressure on Boroughmuir. Having to work so hard

:55:58. > :56:04.to puncture this defence. They seem to be very keen to take on the

:56:05. > :56:10.tackle. It isn't giving them the momentum they deserve. The off-load

:56:11. > :56:17.pass was built there by Gavin well she came off the bench. As you say,

:56:18. > :56:27.they got awfully cluttered and honey potted into the midfielder. The talk

:56:28. > :56:31.about midfielder in, it's fine if it works as long as they get their

:56:32. > :56:43.hands on it. Dropped a very vital part in the game there. The skill

:56:44. > :56:45.set, great crowd in the background enjoying the sunshine and these

:56:46. > :56:51.Toal-Lennon will be enjoying this. The captain with the cap on.

:56:52. > :56:56.Interestingly enough coach of the Cyprus international team and

:56:57. > :57:04.Toal-Lennon has another run and this is his second try. That'll be the

:57:05. > :57:15.Co-Optimists touching down on the full-time whistle and that'll be all

:57:16. > :57:27.of the action here. 22-5, it was Toal-Lennon who wrapped up the

:57:28. > :57:35.victory for the Co-Optimists. Final confirmation and Toal-Lennon leading

:57:36. > :57:40.22-5. I'm joined by the coach, how would you rate the performance? Not

:57:41. > :57:44.bad, the first outing for them today so things will always be a little

:57:45. > :57:49.bit rusty, first game fever, hopefully we will build on that

:57:50. > :57:53.moving into game two. How much preparation time have you had? They

:57:54. > :57:59.arrived yesterday so not a lot of prep time. The boys been training

:58:00. > :58:02.hard so we know the game and know the plan. Just a case of trying to

:58:03. > :58:27.put this behind us. Good luck. And here we are then, the final

:58:28. > :58:31.match in the second round and probably the most emotional game of

:58:32. > :58:38.the day, the suite on the right and there was a minute 's silence before

:58:39. > :58:42.the game -- Swedes. The silence to note the horrors that befell

:58:43. > :58:54.Stockholm last night. That is the Swedish team.

:58:55. > :59:24.and white. Herriot in possession. Carmichael again. Semple in

:59:25. > :59:31.possession. Looks as though he may have coughed up the ball. Taking the

:59:32. > :59:41.ball into hands to give it to Fransen. Out to no instead. Write

:59:42. > :59:47.down the right wing is Nunstead. Well picked up it is a try. You can

:59:48. > :00:02.hear the result. And that applause from the crowd.

:00:03. > :00:11.Is no substitute the pace. Nunstedt on the outside. Boisseau was unable

:00:12. > :00:17.to get there. Great footwork and keeping the ball alive. Great work

:00:18. > :00:24.from Enstad supporting. Bill Johnson was saying before, very few drop

:00:25. > :00:30.kicks are successful, whereas on the bigger stage you can get these extra

:00:31. > :00:34.two points by making sure these kicks go. Not many teams successful

:00:35. > :00:40.to date with kicks. On the World Series you practise more and for

:00:41. > :00:46.these guys, the drop kick is a dying art, they do not use it often. It is

:00:47. > :00:48.difficult as well when you are tired, which you will be in a sevens

:00:49. > :01:01.match, to get the technique right. Big Jonathan Hector. Sweden in

:01:02. > :01:45.possession. Looking comfortable. Hector. The Swedes are up. Two very

:01:46. > :01:49.quick tries. Not much is expected of this Swedish team and they have come

:01:50. > :01:54.over here and that is two tries. Just going through the phases.

:01:55. > :01:58.Talking about the importance of maintaining possession in sevens.

:01:59. > :02:05.Their basic skills are good. Getting the ball passing accurately. Going

:02:06. > :02:09.through the phases, making Heriot's make tackles and eventually the

:02:10. > :02:22.space opens up. Strong legs from Hector. The conversion was good.

:02:23. > :02:44.Fransson with the easier kick between the posts.

:02:45. > :03:02.That was a great little handoff. Up to the halfway line. Hugh Fraser was

:03:03. > :03:11.isolated. A bit of backchat, I think. Great break from Hugh Fraser

:03:12. > :03:17.but he left his team-mates behind and as a result a straightforward

:03:18. > :03:20.tackle. Disappointing for Heriot's, their first chance to get any sort

:03:21. > :03:36.of possession, get out of their half. The longer ball was flipped

:03:37. > :03:48.out to Martin Hughes. Sweden rampaging at the moment. They have

:03:49. > :03:52.these two tries. Enstad, Enstad is through. He looked like he would

:03:53. > :04:01.give the ball to the left but had confidence in his ability. Three

:04:02. > :04:06.tries. Great recognition from Enstad. Rory Carmichael, the

:04:07. > :04:13.defender out wide. He shows him his back and he is happy to take that.

:04:14. > :04:23.Carmichael wants Enstad to pass and Enstad says no, you have given me

:04:24. > :04:31.the space. Good attack from Enstad. A long conversion from the left-hand

:04:32. > :04:36.side. It is like floating a wet haggis over a dyke. This was the

:04:37. > :04:44.score, as you said, the Heriot's defender. He was round the outside.

:04:45. > :04:49.Comfortable score. The inside defender, you do not want your

:04:50. > :04:55.outside guide to leave you high and dry, it makes it more challenging.

:04:56. > :05:01.Again Herriot is unable to get any sort of possession, but at least

:05:02. > :05:07.they have this scrum. Ideally they will get a school before the end of

:05:08. > :05:30.the half. It would be good to get them back in this game. -- score.

:05:31. > :05:40.17-0, Herriot struggling a bit. Loose ball, picked up really easily

:05:41. > :05:46.by Nunstedt, who is through. The 100th try of the afternoon's

:05:47. > :05:50.proceedings. On half time. Sweden dominating this match. They are

:05:51. > :06:00.indeed. Heriot's with the opportunity to get the ball to the

:06:01. > :06:05.width. The interference with the pass and Nunstedt is quick enough to

:06:06. > :06:07.get over the line. What a day it has been. We have had some fantastic

:06:08. > :06:46.action today. There is what is arguably one of the

:06:47. > :06:47.finest views of rugby ground anywhere in the world. This is where

:06:48. > :06:54.this whole was invented. Sweden have graced the tournament with their

:06:55. > :06:59.presence. Much has happened in their country. They had a minute's silence

:07:00. > :07:07.before proceedings. Sweden dominating, 24-0 up. We are in the

:07:08. > :07:12.middle of a really good game. We have Edinburgh Accies and Quins to

:07:13. > :07:19.come. You can see the wind. The flag fluttering above what is one of the

:07:20. > :07:31.oldest boxes, painted yellow. Sweden now playing into the sun. What a day

:07:32. > :07:37.it is. Absolutely glorious. Just a fantastic setting for an excellent

:07:38. > :07:43.afternoon of rugby sevens. One of the unheralded rugby nations,

:07:44. > :07:48.Sweden. They are giving a Herriot is a lesson, or they did in the first

:07:49. > :07:58.half. Three scores ahead of the opposition. Would that be enough?

:07:59. > :08:04.The next score will be crucial if Heriot's can get momentum back in

:08:05. > :08:14.this game. It was Carmichael through with the break. Sweden back in

:08:15. > :08:20.possession. I think the ball is a little bit slippy. Longer shadows.

:08:21. > :08:26.Look at the shadow of the tree. The sun just setting beneath the

:08:27. > :08:32.commentary box. It gives a special light. There is a special, to the

:08:33. > :08:47.sky. The shadows of the trees. It is a unique setting. It adds another

:08:48. > :08:56.dimension to this game. Bad throw. Intercepted. They scrum to Sweden.

:08:57. > :09:04.There have been good teams. Quins looked like they are a side to

:09:05. > :09:09.watch. Coe are to mists -- co-optimists, also. Edinburgh Accies

:09:10. > :09:15.were very strong in their first game will stop GHA did well to beat

:09:16. > :09:24.Hawick and then Edinburgh Aggies wipes the floor... Harlequins beat

:09:25. > :09:30.GHA. I agree about Harlequins. Melrose did not hit full pace

:09:31. > :09:35.against Dundee but they will get stronger as the tournament

:09:36. > :09:44.progresses. Out to Nunstedt. The Swedes are romping home. That will

:09:45. > :09:49.be 29-0. In these tournaments, I guess you have to start thinking

:09:50. > :09:57.about conserving energy? Yes. This game, again, talking about in Sue

:09:58. > :10:02.have been strong. Heriot's have performed well the last few years at

:10:03. > :10:12.the Greenyards and Melrose Sevens. The pace Nunstedt has shown on

:10:13. > :10:16.occasions, it is a weapon. The Swedish team play a lot together.

:10:17. > :10:27.They have the real understanding, the basic skills are good. The

:10:28. > :10:33.Co-Optimists, some of the Irish team have been in camp in Portugal. The

:10:34. > :10:38.Harlequins have been brought together as a bunch of sprinters.

:10:39. > :10:46.But this is the archetypal country team. Whilst you have not heard of

:10:47. > :10:50.Sweden as a rugby nation, there are invitational tournaments and such a

:10:51. > :10:56.value to just playing games and getting the understanding of what

:10:57. > :11:04.your team-mates do and getting the conditioning required for sevens.

:11:05. > :11:13.Great off-load. It was John Semple. Carmichael has had a good afternoon.

:11:14. > :11:16.Back inside to Stuart Edwards. Hugh Fraser is strong enough. Sweden

:11:17. > :11:28.might have turned this over but no, Heriot's doing their best to keep

:11:29. > :11:42.it. Alex Ball is now on the left wing. John Semple in for a try.

:11:43. > :11:47.Persistence pays off for Heriot's. They have managed to retain

:11:48. > :11:52.possession for a while and it was John Semple recognising there was

:11:53. > :12:09.enough space between the defenders. He has the pace to finish the try. A

:12:10. > :12:19.full-back in the 15s game. That is the latest score. Sweden looking

:12:20. > :12:30.fairly dominant. They do shift the ball quickly.

:12:31. > :12:38.Courage of your convictions, tries the outside break and does the extra

:12:39. > :12:51.role to guarantee the ball. Dennis Melander. Another good tackle.

:12:52. > :13:01.Enstad is away. He gives it to Borg. Good tackle from Carmichael. It is a

:13:02. > :13:07.long way to run. John Semple. And Hugh Fraser, the kick pass. It has

:13:08. > :13:19.been used a couple of times this afternoon. Good break. Stuart

:13:20. > :13:26.Edwards, it was. Rae gave it out. The final pass is enough for the

:13:27. > :13:30.Heriot's try. Heriot's showing what they could have done if they kept

:13:31. > :13:35.hold of possession a little longer, earlier on in the game. Just

:13:36. > :13:42.stretching the Swedish defence. The Swedes have made changes. Giving the

:13:43. > :13:46.bench a run out. Not managed to keep pace with Heriot's. Once you get

:13:47. > :13:57.through to the sweeper, it is the execution, two on one. Levinson is

:13:58. > :14:02.in for George Turner, who was concussed. Love us and a guest

:14:03. > :14:10.player. He for him to get involved, wearing number 16, on because Turner

:14:11. > :14:13.is concussed. You get to pick a player from the team you beat in the

:14:14. > :14:24.first round, if you pick up an injury. Sweden just two delicate

:14:25. > :14:29.off-loads. Good game. Sweden a team to keep your eye on for the rest of

:14:30. > :14:32.the afternoon because they have just beaten Heriot's here. Convincingly.

:14:33. > :14:52.The final score, 31-14. I'm joined by the Swedish coach, sum

:14:53. > :14:56.up how it special it is to be a? Pretty special, a big occasion and

:14:57. > :15:01.there's history behind the Melrose seven so delighted to be here and to

:15:02. > :15:07.get the first result as we have just seen. We are aware of the tragic

:15:08. > :15:14.events in Stockholm, how hard was it for the boys to do this? A lot of

:15:15. > :15:19.than to be too emotionally and it was very tragic. We are getting

:15:20. > :15:24.support from everyone back in Sweden said that is keeping us going.

:15:25. > :15:31.Supported too. The hospitality has been great. Best of luck for the

:15:32. > :15:39.rest of the tournament. Thank you. A very good win for Sweden there.

:15:40. > :15:47.Kelso out, what Sony and is through. Jedforest beaten by Curry.

:15:48. > :15:56.Harlequins through. Selkirk also through, a good performance against

:15:57. > :16:03.the GSI seven. Melrose going through. Who will speak at Scott

:16:04. > :16:11.Hastings at half-time but this is the first quarterfinal.

:16:12. > :16:18.COMMENTATOR: This is a real Edinburgh derby. This would be hotly

:16:19. > :16:23.contested. They won here when they beat Stellenbosch in a great final,

:16:24. > :16:30.42-26 they beat the South Africans that day. Currie have never reached

:16:31. > :16:37.a Melrose final so history if they can edged towards the final here.

:16:38. > :16:41.That's right that there will be concentrating on the quarterfinal

:16:42. > :16:48.and must be a tie because both teams won the preliminary rounds. The man

:16:49. > :16:51.to look out for is Rory Drummond for, he's leading the charge with

:16:52. > :17:00.two tries through spells at the moment. In the shape. Scott McKeen

:17:01. > :17:05.in the sunshine. A dry ball with lovely conditions. These are the

:17:06. > :17:11.conditions they enjoy because they can sidestep and swerve. Rory

:17:12. > :17:16.Drummond up the touchline, swats them off like flies as he made it to

:17:17. > :17:24.the corner, the referee gives the try, first blood to Watsonians. You

:17:25. > :17:32.can see his run in there. A great camera angle here. No inclination

:17:33. > :17:36.from any sites that whatsoever. That was a good try writing the corner

:17:37. > :17:43.there. Three tries now for Rory Drummond. Watsonians top try scorer

:17:44. > :17:47.and I would say one of the top try scorers of the tournament at the

:17:48. > :17:54.moment. He's up there in second place. Jordan Edmonds has four. It

:17:55. > :18:01.was online and had enough heights but just a little bit short. 5-0.

:18:02. > :18:20.Watsonians lead Currie. Seven minutes each way.

:18:21. > :18:29.Young Ferguson restarting. The knock-on. I keep saying this but

:18:30. > :18:32.it's a wonderful kick-off. When you see these boys getting a bit of

:18:33. > :18:36.height on the ball you can see it goes up out of shot there because it

:18:37. > :18:41.has got a bit of height and the camera can't pick it up. Right on

:18:42. > :18:45.the ten yard line and allows the chasers to compete and the important

:18:46. > :18:53.thing in seven Zas we'll know is to keep the ball.

:18:54. > :19:01.McKean had ten tries to his credit at the Gala sevens last week. Top

:19:02. > :19:04.scorer and you can see how beautifully change direction. They

:19:05. > :19:15.stand on the anchors and swing the ball in the opposite direction. Here

:19:16. > :19:18.they go again. McKean goes on a dummy run but Currie are right in

:19:19. > :19:25.their faces so well organised and well marshalled defence by the men

:19:26. > :19:28.in yellow. That is the Currie team. I don't know if we will see that

:19:29. > :19:35.again but a good line and a good defence. No holes. Just that little

:19:36. > :19:43.backpass, difficult to read sometimes. Straight into touch.

:19:44. > :19:50.Smith pops it out, this is Cameron Smith. Strong bustling centre. Here

:19:51. > :20:01.they come again. Currie with tonnes of possession. Charlie shield.

:20:02. > :20:13.Drummond saw the opportunity but just dropped it. The big man you see

:20:14. > :20:20.him. That is Angus Duckett who played for Selkirk on the belt, you

:20:21. > :20:25.can see how low the sunlight is, you have to shield your eyes to get a

:20:26. > :20:28.good picture of the far side. Could be quite interesting, we spoke about

:20:29. > :20:38.it before but tactically you could use the sun so the opposition cannot

:20:39. > :20:42.see the ball. Time will tell. That is what the bench are seeing. They

:20:43. > :20:51.are looking right across the field so the diagonal kick being blocked

:20:52. > :20:58.by the sun, difficult to deal with. Charlie shield for Currie and away

:20:59. > :21:06.goes Rory Smith now. The ten metre line of. Cat and mouse isn't it?

:21:07. > :21:25.Cameron Smith again. Different to pin down. Shield the playmaker. Ran

:21:26. > :21:29.out of space that time. Let's see what the Currie can do. Shield is

:21:30. > :21:35.through. That is a lovely sidestep by Charlie shield. The young

:21:36. > :21:40.19-year-old takes all his time just a touchdown behind the goalposts.

:21:41. > :21:53.That puts the game all square at 5-5. If he had sized 13 feet he

:21:54. > :22:00.could've been over the line there. He has been the pick of curry so

:22:01. > :22:05.far. Just the way he dances around. Makes life difficult for the

:22:06. > :22:10.opposition to catch. Not a lot happening there. Changing direction,

:22:11. > :22:15.one missed tackle we spoke about it can be punishing. And that was the

:22:16. > :22:27.case there with young Charlie shield. Who we are back with the

:22:28. > :22:34.restart and shield has the drop out. Jack Ferguson the catcher and here

:22:35. > :22:39.is big Rory Drummond. McKean gets it infield. And outside him is Tom

:22:40. > :22:56.Hart. Very secure handling there. Isn't it amazing how quickly seven

:22:57. > :23:02.minutes goes when you enjoy yourself? Very much in company and

:23:03. > :23:13.it's very close on this Edinburgh derby. What Sony and is down 5-7.

:23:14. > :23:20.--. Scotty lifted that cup 22 years ago? Why do you think I have grey

:23:21. > :23:23.hair. A fantastic occasion and now this is an Olympic support and to

:23:24. > :23:28.think it started here and we have seen throughout this afternoon, the

:23:29. > :23:31.players love coming here and we do. The setting, the Heritage and the

:23:32. > :23:34.culture and the impact of the tournament, everything is so tight,

:23:35. > :23:38.we have seen some wonderful play. We will see some great games coming up,

:23:39. > :23:45.this is the quarterfinal at the moment and what wet your appetite

:23:46. > :23:52.right now? Edinborough Accies looking good alongside Harlequins,

:23:53. > :23:56.Charlie Walker the outstanding performer. Selkirk versus Melrose

:23:57. > :24:00.you can almost see Selkirk doing that but Sweden played some great

:24:01. > :24:05.rugby but up against one of the guest sides who also look good. The

:24:06. > :24:10.Scottish Co-Optomists in disguise because there are some Irishman

:24:11. > :24:14.playing today. The Swedes in particular were interesting to watch

:24:15. > :24:19.because they are coached and sevens. They understand the game. I don't

:24:20. > :24:23.think people understand the reach of the game and now it is an Olympic

:24:24. > :24:27.sport he can see the funding, the Stockholm Thames is established

:24:28. > :24:39.tournament and they have come here prepared. Let's rejoin the action.

:24:40. > :24:44.That is carved right off his boot into the middle of the stand. I'm

:24:45. > :24:46.sure Charlie shield will keep speaking but that's not what you

:24:47. > :24:58.want to see. It has happened before blessing. This is good running by

:24:59. > :25:09.Rhys Cullen. An early tackle there surely. In way it goes, that is a

:25:10. > :25:16.Rae Smith who was in there. Currie are down to six, still leading by

:25:17. > :25:29.2.7-5. Have the advantage of the extra man. Well done thereby Rory

:25:30. > :25:34.steel. This boy has real place, the timing of the parcels off. Just held

:25:35. > :25:40.at a fraction. Shield again, has all the time to lift his head and see

:25:41. > :25:49.where everybody is. Great off-load. Nice running this time. Cameron

:25:50. > :25:59.Smith strong, hands off. There we go. Rory Drummond here, a long way

:26:00. > :26:03.for Rory Drummond to go but the sides that there might be one more.

:26:04. > :26:09.Charlie shield cannot get at him, nice build-up thereby and good

:26:10. > :26:16.finishing for a try which puts back in the lead 10-7. Currie had all the

:26:17. > :26:20.ball there and this is where they gave up the ball. It is that dinky

:26:21. > :26:26.fellow there are, quite difficult to catch if you are that bit taller.

:26:27. > :26:35.Shields workrate has been outstanding, not enough pace to get

:26:36. > :26:38.back there. A good try. We've noticed before if there is a yellow

:26:39. > :26:44.card given what a difference it makes, the extra man. We could see

:26:45. > :26:52.that there with with the extra man. Resulted in a try. Lovely kick by

:26:53. > :27:00.Ferguson to put the extra two points on the board. There it is, you can

:27:01. > :27:05.see the early tackle there. No doubt about that one I'm afraid. Sometimes

:27:06. > :27:09.you do think it is difficult to see the ball but he certainly never got

:27:10. > :27:18.the border and a yellow card was the correct decision. Currie need to

:27:19. > :27:22.hold onto possession just for a little while until that extra man

:27:23. > :27:34.comes back. Away they go with McGinley. Scott McGinley a strong

:27:35. > :27:44.runner. Held onto longer. Watsonians lining up. You could see in the

:27:45. > :27:49.background Bill getting a little hand off their buts when it's time

:27:50. > :27:58.to come on you don't have a stop of play you run on solar Currie are

:27:59. > :28:00.back to full strength. It's a good law really. Two minutes is long

:28:01. > :28:04.enough and seven it's enough to make them suffer a penalty because

:28:05. > :28:08.usually getting to take advantage of the extra man. They certainly have,

:28:09. > :28:19.we have found every time there's a yellow card a try has been scored

:28:20. > :28:25.against. Watsonians leading 12-7. The clock tells us it is up to 14

:28:26. > :28:33.and that is when they stop playing. Currie have it all to do, they are a

:28:34. > :28:39.try down. Watsonians must sense opportunity here in their nostrils.

:28:40. > :28:48.Here is a man who could change it. Former Brumby not making much that

:28:49. > :28:51.time. You can see are doing well, not just going on the legs were

:28:52. > :28:55.trying to stop the ball carrier and try to pass out the tackle.

:28:56. > :29:04.Certainly slowing the game down and making life difficult. Angus Duckett

:29:05. > :29:08.takes air. The trickling stride of hers -- twinkling. The change of

:29:09. > :29:15.direction behind the goal post could be decisive for. 17-7 in this

:29:16. > :29:18.Edinburgh derby match. Scott Hastings will get excited. You don't

:29:19. > :29:28.see it so much from this angle but what an absolute beautiful Lion that

:29:29. > :29:34.he had there. No nothing, a fantastic angle and to come onto

:29:35. > :29:41.pace made life very difficult for them to defend against. There is

:29:42. > :29:45.another wavering kick. It's been such a lovely day which we've

:29:46. > :29:51.enjoyed. The thing the players are feeling the heat out there. There we

:29:52. > :29:57.go Cullen came from behind the attacking ball there. No one could

:29:58. > :30:03.see him come around. Very easy when you sit down like that.

:30:04. > :30:23.He cannot get it away this time. That was Young. Having to get it

:30:24. > :30:32.away from his body, and yes, he was holding on. You have to extend the

:30:33. > :30:37.arms, get the ball away. What we are finding quite a lot, because this is

:30:38. > :30:42.the first, second tournament of the season, people taking more contact

:30:43. > :30:53.than they should. That should been away from the contact. He decided to

:30:54. > :30:59.take on. We are into the last-minute of this tie, the first quarterfinal.

:31:00. > :31:08.Currie have it all to do. Watsonians with possession, looking

:31:09. > :31:23.comfortable. Steele doing the bulk of the

:31:24. > :31:34.50-50 ball, what a fight for possession. Cullen nicely out. The

:31:35. > :31:49.big fella, Drummond. Still keeps going. A lovely delivery out of the

:31:50. > :31:58.bottom of the pile-up. Cullen again. The twinkling steps. A bit of a

:31:59. > :32:02.forward pass. And full-time. 17-7 win for Watsonians and that means

:32:03. > :32:05.they are the first team to take their place in the semifinal here at

:32:06. > :32:20.Melrose. I am joined by the Watsonians

:32:21. > :32:26.manager. Always nice to come out top in an Edinburgh derby. Against

:32:27. > :32:31.Currie, rivals nowadays. Fiercely contested quarterfinal and we are

:32:32. > :32:35.happy to go into the semis. I do not know what you have seen of the other

:32:36. > :32:42.teams but do you have enough to go to the final, to win this? I always

:32:43. > :32:47.do. It will be tough. You can see even from last week, it has taken

:32:48. > :32:50.its toll. We need to make sure we keep the ball and do what we are

:32:51. > :32:55.good at, score tries. Best of luck.

:32:56. > :33:08.That is Jamie Sole of Edinburgh Accies. And amateur club against one

:33:09. > :33:21.of the big clubs south of the border. Playing right to left. They

:33:22. > :33:32.made short work of GHA. Jones, Dino Lamb. Charlie Walker is a real

:33:33. > :33:58.flyer. A lovely day. Looking ahead to one

:33:59. > :34:08.of the big finals in world rugby. The turnover by Quins. This is the

:34:09. > :34:11.flyer, Charlie Walker, giving it to another big man, Jonas Mikalcius. We

:34:12. > :34:25.have seen the way he can just sprint in. James Lang. Lovely feet. Still

:34:26. > :34:30.going. That is class. Jones the willing recipient of that beautiful

:34:31. > :34:35.break and then pass. James Lang, look at the way he switches

:34:36. > :34:40.direction, comes off his left foot, once, twice, a third time, threading

:34:41. > :34:45.the pass-through and a tremendous try. Individual skill and an

:34:46. > :34:50.accurate pass that found the man on the outside. Quins into their stride

:34:51. > :34:55.quickly. It has been the story of the afternoon. If you have

:34:56. > :34:58.possession and have the players with the physical capabilities, you will

:34:59. > :35:14.score tries. This is the conversion attempt. It is white. -- wide. The

:35:15. > :35:19.way he held the ball in two hands, teased the defence and delivered the

:35:20. > :35:25.pass with accuracy. If you look back to the Watsonians' victory over

:35:26. > :35:51.Currie. They have not shown that accuracy. Jamie Sole, son of David

:35:52. > :35:54.Sole. And Craig Chalmers' boy. Different questions posed by this

:35:55. > :36:03.Harlequins defence, who are coming up quickly. Robbie Chalmers, brave.

:36:04. > :36:14.Playing well at the ground where his father excelled. Up to the

:36:15. > :36:21.opposition ten metres line. Sole, we saw him score. That is what he does.

:36:22. > :36:30.He can link the ball. The referee said Jamie Sole was not held. Winks

:36:31. > :36:39.is smothered. Quins more physical than anything. James Lang spotted

:36:40. > :36:48.the gap. He is quicker than the Edinburgh Accies defenders. James

:36:49. > :36:54.Lang. The ball down. A former Scotland under 18s player. He found

:36:55. > :37:00.a big gap. You did not have a traditional sweeper because

:37:01. > :37:02.Edinburgh axes have been attacking. Exploited from the turnover. James

:37:03. > :37:17.Lang stretched his legs and he ran. I have to tell you, I saw a bunch of

:37:18. > :37:21.people playing Frisbee behind the stand in fancy dress to be told it

:37:22. > :37:26.was a bus-load from Northern Ireland. A huge crowd have come to

:37:27. > :37:30.watch this celebration of the abbreviated game. You have been

:37:31. > :37:36.involved in it, it has gone around the world. They persist with the

:37:37. > :37:46.high, direct kick-off. Taken well by Robbie Kent. Chalmers is having a

:37:47. > :38:10.great game. He kept the ball despite the attention. Harlequins up

:38:11. > :38:17.quickly. Sole, I think, is an animal feedstuff engineer down here.

:38:18. > :38:22.Appleson, just a yard, he tries to get the ball with the extra step but

:38:23. > :38:34.cannot make it. Penalty to Edinburgh Accies. Great riposte from the

:38:35. > :38:43.Accies team. Alex Glashen keeping the ball alive. The scrum-half,

:38:44. > :38:52.e-book take a quick tap and go. -- he will take.

:38:53. > :39:02.It is a long, looping pass to the left. Jonas Mikalcius, we know how

:39:03. > :39:14.quick he is. Look at the left. He can fly. -- the knee lift. The crowd

:39:15. > :39:25.don't like it! Mind you, he will be puffed. A couple of years ago,

:39:26. > :39:33.shining in the European Grand Prix series. Another tribe. Basically a

:39:34. > :39:39.run in for Quins and it came from turnover ball. Accies attacking from

:39:40. > :39:45.under the post, losing possession. And in this case you will get

:39:46. > :39:52.punished. The young team from the Harlequins Academy showing how to

:39:53. > :39:59.play this game. Edinburgh Accies will be rightly worried. A 19 points

:40:00. > :40:05.deficit at half-time and a lot to do to get back in. They will have the

:40:06. > :40:09.sun and wind, the second half. They are brave, but not really been

:40:10. > :40:17.threatening the Harlequins players. And this will be a chance. Appleson

:40:18. > :40:46.leaves it for Glashen. Again, the pressure. Glashan is the

:40:47. > :40:53.playmaker. Sole plucks it out of the sky and does well. It is a flyer.

:40:54. > :40:59.Off-loading beautifully aside to Winks. What a score by Edinburgh

:41:00. > :41:05.Accies. The kick past two Jamie Sole and the link to his fellow big man.

:41:06. > :41:12.I love that try. Alex Glashan's cross kick. Jamie Sole. The support

:41:13. > :41:22.play was so good from Edinburgh Accies. Jamie Winks did so well. The

:41:23. > :41:33.conversion to come from the wide out channel.

:41:34. > :41:43.It has given Edinburgh axes some hope. This is the try again. Alex

:41:44. > :41:55.Glashan. Because the defence came up for the Quins is allowed Jamie Sole

:41:56. > :42:01.-- it allowed him clear to the line. The Soles, I think Gemma, the

:42:02. > :42:06.daughter has played netball for Scotland. Another signed for a

:42:07. > :42:11.cricket team. That Jamie is making himself a name in rugby. A lot to do

:42:12. > :42:24.yet. I think they get their pedigree from their mother, mind you! Jane.

:42:25. > :42:30.Mark Appleson. Played for Scotland in the 90s. He won a tournament in

:42:31. > :42:34.Dubai will stop he played for the London Scottish club and is a

:42:35. > :42:41.brilliant sevens player and has had experience coaching Heriot's.

:42:42. > :42:47.You can see the sun as it careers through the lens at Melrose. And

:42:48. > :42:55.there is this big crowd, this afternoon. We have still to see

:42:56. > :43:00.Selkirk play Melrose in the next game. And the Co-Optimists against

:43:01. > :43:08.Sweden, who might be the surprise package. It is 14, 15 degrees,

:43:09. > :43:24.sunshine. And that is the picture as we see it in this commentary box.

:43:25. > :43:41.Quins sticking to their width. Winks. He is the man who has just

:43:42. > :43:45.scored the try at the other end. Weeks, one of these piledriver

:43:46. > :43:52.handoffs. If you do not get him down early, you do not get him down. The

:43:53. > :44:00.accuracy within the Accies' attack strategy has been good. They got to

:44:01. > :44:05.the final. They come in with forum. They have backed the try up with the

:44:06. > :44:17.first score of the second half. The conversion here is absolutely

:44:18. > :44:25.crucial. He pulls it. This was the try. We know Winks has become quite

:44:26. > :44:29.a player. Joint top scorer. And we have a game. I think many people

:44:30. > :44:33.thought Quins would be way too strong. One of the best games of the

:44:34. > :44:49.afternoon. Away down the right wing. Looks

:44:50. > :45:01.inside. Taken by Archie Wyatt or Luke Jones. Number four, beautiful

:45:02. > :45:13.off-load, doesn't go quite to hand. Good defence by Edinborough Accies.

:45:14. > :45:19.Such a skill, when you go into that position you off-load the ball, we

:45:20. > :45:25.see a lot of top professional teams and HSBC seven series competing in

:45:26. > :45:32.Hong Kong this weekend. The skill level right under the microscope in

:45:33. > :45:44.seven aside rugby. Ben Appleson collect the ball. Pluck sit out the

:45:45. > :45:51.sky. Pins his ears back, go through one man, go through to man.

:45:52. > :45:58.Edinborough Accies will bring it a 2-point game if they can get this

:45:59. > :46:03.conversion. Wraparound play was superb, that creates the two on one.

:46:04. > :46:10.That off-load from Chalmers. He held a tonne and louts and went for a

:46:11. > :46:15.corner the accuracy from Edinborough Accies is proving the difference. --

:46:16. > :46:20.Laursen. They are stretching this defence and we have a game on here.

:46:21. > :46:28.You spoke about how important the convergence and he has just pulled

:46:29. > :46:33.it, a 4-point game. Just over 3.5 minutes to go, Harlequins will be

:46:34. > :46:36.questioning themselves, they need to score next. If Edinborough Accies

:46:37. > :46:43.score next then this could be a big upset. Edinborough Accies lost to at

:46:44. > :46:48.the gala last weekend but are looking better now. His kick-offs

:46:49. > :46:54.have been good throughout the tournament but that was over pumped.

:46:55. > :47:04.Harlequins will use the clock as their friend. No rush. Charlie

:47:05. > :47:29.Walker just directing traffic there, telling his team what to do.

:47:30. > :47:49.Edinborough Accies up quickly. Got the ball away. Mikalcius gets it out

:47:50. > :47:56.to lamb. Robinson gives it to the fire again Charlie Walker, walker

:47:57. > :48:03.Issey through? He is. That could be the vital score. Charlie Walker's

:48:04. > :48:07.try of the afternoon and in his experience, he has represented

:48:08. > :48:12.England in Hong Kong and Tokyo in and he has just been the difference

:48:13. > :48:17.between the teams. He has. He is the difference. Just that old head,

:48:18. > :48:29.slowed down, took his time and took the kick off slowly.

:48:30. > :48:41.He has missed that one 20 4-15. Edinborough Accies need to score

:48:42. > :48:45.twice. -- 24. This is the replay, nice steps coming up, one, two and

:48:46. > :48:50.then the little line from Charlie Walker takes it, dances off the left

:48:51. > :48:56.foot and I think you're right, he is a class act. He was the giver of the

:48:57. > :49:00.third pass on the movement before the third try and he held his line

:49:01. > :49:06.on the inside angle. That made all the difference and another

:49:07. > :49:09.difference between these two teams is the Edinborough Accies

:49:10. > :49:14.conversions, suddenly those 4-point could put them in the once good

:49:15. > :49:18.game. As it is they need a miracle here. That is normally a yellow card

:49:19. > :49:24.offence that. Throwing the ball away, it is yellow card. He is off

:49:25. > :49:38.the pitch. We have one minutes left. If they can score within 30 seconds.

:49:39. > :49:43.Chop to the ground. Appleson. Chalmers. Chalmers is through. Back

:49:44. > :49:50.inside to Appleson and Appleson needs to get underneath the they can

:49:51. > :49:54.convert this. Look at the urgency. There is 30 seconds left. Quick

:49:55. > :50:02.drop-kick, they need to get possession. Scott Hastings.

:50:03. > :50:06.Tremendous. This is what is great about the abbreviated game,

:50:07. > :50:10.Edinborough Accies with a power play. Chalmers gets the back-up here

:50:11. > :50:15.and suddenly all of the pressure now on Alex McGlashan. Jamie Sole chased

:50:16. > :50:29.that one. Clever player. That is a clever

:50:30. > :50:36.little break. Will Stephen done that right-hand side, gives it inside. It

:50:37. > :50:44.is that man that you have identified. Charlie Walker has had

:50:45. > :50:47.an amazing afternoon. The try of the afternoon and that is the tie,

:50:48. > :50:54.Edinborough Accies have pushed them all the way, a super game of rugby

:50:55. > :51:02.that one. Really exciting, the skill of the Harlequins of the skill of

:51:03. > :51:08.that man, absolutely nails it. He is the top points scorer, Charlie

:51:09. > :51:16.Walker with 25 points. What a game we have heard. I'm joined by James

:51:17. > :51:20.Lamb. That was a tough match, you are sweating right until the end.

:51:21. > :51:25.They brought it to us and we had to fight until the very end. Good rugby

:51:26. > :51:30.going on here and we are relieved to say the least to get through the

:51:31. > :51:35.next round. I would imagine for you out there it is probably quite

:51:36. > :51:39.sapping. It does take it out of you, it's nice to have some rather than

:51:40. > :51:43.rain but it does. Good fun out there and hopefully we can take this win

:51:44. > :51:57.into the next game. Best of luck. These glorious conditions for the

:51:58. > :52:04.match, the third quarterfinal, Selkirk got through by beating the

:52:05. > :52:10.previous teams, Melrose put paid to Dundee 's hopes. Here we are, a

:52:11. > :52:15.border battle. We have had an Edinburgh derby and now it'll be a

:52:16. > :52:20.Borders battle and that is Selkirk in the traditional navy blue kicking

:52:21. > :52:28.off. Great to see Selkirk doing so well, a couple of cup games -- tough

:52:29. > :52:33.games. They showed their class and quality in the end so you would

:52:34. > :52:37.expect Melrose to be strong for Selkirk but that is the beauty of

:52:38. > :52:42.sevens, if Selkirk can get some momentum then anything can happen.

:52:43. > :52:50.You see the names of the players coming up on the screen there. This

:52:51. > :52:54.is going to be a throw in here by Davis who is one of the crafty

:52:55. > :53:01.operators. Lovely service from Melrose. They goes Luckington.

:53:02. > :53:09.Chased by Clapperton. Selkirk get the turnover. Knocked on first says

:53:10. > :53:17.the referee. And so it'll be a Melrose in. People have enjoyed that

:53:18. > :53:25.this afternoon. Look at Luckington. Just the hand getting in there.

:53:26. > :53:29.Clapperton unlucky to be judged on knock-on. Just a glimpse of how

:53:30. > :53:39.dangerous he can be. Sharp on its feet and has a lovely sidestep. Here

:53:40. > :53:47.it goes again. Just a wee firefly. Down it goes to Jackson. A chance

:53:48. > :53:55.here for Melrose. In at the corner that they go. Greg Jackson and it is

:53:56. > :54:01.a pat on the back and the crowd applauds. Everybody's happy and the

:54:02. > :54:04.home side ahead. The footwork from Luckington gets them over the

:54:05. > :54:10.advantage line and Selkirk have a disconnection. Keirin white

:54:11. > :54:15.defensively, shows his back. Craig Jackson is more than happy to take

:54:16. > :54:21.that. He has the pace to finish it. A positive start for Melrose. A

:54:22. > :54:28.cousin of Ruaridh Jackson who played for Scotland. There we go there as

:54:29. > :54:31.Craig Jackson. That is high but doesn't have the legs of the

:54:32. > :54:41.direction so remains 5-0 for Melrose. Look at this. Something you

:54:42. > :54:44.used to do. I don't know if I had the pace to finish it like that but

:54:45. > :54:50.a good recognition of where the gap was. Of course is cousin at

:54:51. > :54:58.Harlequins now but he hasn't joined the squad here. A massive flap of

:54:59. > :55:05.the hand brings the ball back. Lovely take there. That was Jason

:55:06. > :55:21.Baggett. Usually a stand-off. Could be plying his trade. There is

:55:22. > :55:29.Jackson. Good tackles though by Selkirk. Clapperton in the action.

:55:30. > :55:37.All Melrose at the moment. They goes gobsmacked. -- Watts.

:55:38. > :55:44.Plenty of possession for the home side, there is a lovely week up

:55:45. > :55:54.again, Craig Jackson just weaving his way through. Luckington gets

:55:55. > :56:01.there. It is in fact Godsmark who got the score. Just having another

:56:02. > :56:11.look at that but another try for Melrose. 10-0 Dalaet. -- they lead.

:56:12. > :56:16.Craig Jackson making the lead and the support there, the off-load

:56:17. > :56:20.important and was the downward pressure from Godsmark. The referee

:56:21. > :56:26.is happy. He has spoke to a Selkirk player who wasn't happy he got

:56:27. > :56:30.downward pressure. Just shows the importance of the restart. Melrose

:56:31. > :56:38.regained possession straightaway and back into the attack. Difficult for

:56:39. > :56:43.Jackson there squinting into the sun. Let's watch this. Talk us

:56:44. > :56:48.through the. You can see going for the reach with one hand. The slow

:56:49. > :57:01.motion. In slow motion it looks about good enough. Good decision

:57:02. > :57:06.referee. There you go. Irvine-Hess went up like a salmon there but they

:57:07. > :57:14.didn't get it. This is keirin white back to Ross Nixon. Davies. Along

:57:15. > :57:18.the line to Clapperton. This is Adams who scored a couple of lovely

:57:19. > :57:25.tries in the earlier tied that he is put on the neck unceremoniously by

:57:26. > :57:36.Lockington. A couple of South Africans in. That looked a bit

:57:37. > :57:44.higher. -- high. Dangerous high tackle. Quickly taken. Here comes

:57:45. > :57:48.Selkirk again. Clapperton with a shimmy and a sidestep. Taken him

:57:49. > :57:57.away but he can get the pass-through. Chance for a

:57:58. > :58:07.counterattack. And Craig Jackson just slows tore down and gets the

:58:08. > :58:12.troops mustered. A penalty to Selkirk because he hasn't released

:58:13. > :58:18.in the tackle. Just over a minute ago in the first half. What a pass

:58:19. > :58:21.at the back of the to Adams. He wondered if it had come to him I

:58:22. > :58:26.think and he is not too bothered because it gives Selkirk their first

:58:27. > :58:33.score, it is now 5-10. Quality work here. An absolute speculator, tosses

:58:34. > :58:41.the grenade and it lands in the hands of Adams. It gets Selkirk

:58:42. > :58:50.right back into the game. The man of the moment will take the conversion

:58:51. > :58:56.attempt, let's see what he is like. Look at the packed terracing. That

:58:57. > :59:00.looks better. That looks all right. Adams convert his own try, only

:59:01. > :59:05.three points between the sides now with half-time approaching. Great

:59:06. > :59:15.footwork first of all from Selkirk there. An absolute speculator, a

:59:16. > :59:20.pass to nothing but the accuracy is there to stop leads to score,

:59:21. > :59:24.Selkirk back in it although the knock-on at the restart gives

:59:25. > :59:28.Melrose possession. This will be the last play of the first half. This is

:59:29. > :59:33.what the crowd love and they can see it on the screen to the left of the

:59:34. > :59:39.picture. A massive crowd screen, that is that the River Tweed end. It

:59:40. > :59:44.gives the crowd a greater understanding of what is going on

:59:45. > :59:47.close at hand. And also slow motion replays. And lets them see what

:59:48. > :00:00.happened. We can confirm Nyle Godsmark does

:00:01. > :00:05.score and we can confirm quality, the back passes. We can see Selkirk

:00:06. > :00:12.putting a shunt on the Melrose scrum. Selkirk having possession.

:00:13. > :00:18.Not quite out of the scrummage. It has to come out at least between the

:00:19. > :00:24.prop forward's legs. He is not allowed to move his outer legs to

:00:25. > :00:27.accommodate that. Close attention from all those on the benches.

:00:28. > :00:40.Watching their teams, seeing how they do. Colvine was around quickly.

:00:41. > :00:46.Mikey Davies was slow off his mark. I think that is half-time. It has

:00:47. > :00:50.been a long first half. There we are. Two tries for Melrose, one for

:00:51. > :01:05.Selkirk. It has been a good half of rugby.

:01:06. > :01:11.Melrose started well. Selkirk, when they get possession, you can tell,

:01:12. > :01:16.they work well as a team. I don't think they have the individual

:01:17. > :01:24.brilliance of the gods mark or Lockington -- Nyle Godsmark. They

:01:25. > :01:32.are an effective team. They have Ross Nixon tossing grenades out the

:01:33. > :01:37.back hand into the welcome arms of Adams, to get them back in that

:01:38. > :01:41.game. The crowd are nervous. The Greenyards has gone quiet. They are

:01:42. > :01:46.concerned about the Selkirk performance in the first half. If

:01:47. > :01:51.they can rally the troops, get behind the Melrose team. There is

:01:52. > :01:57.nothing better than the host side have its team working through the

:01:58. > :02:01.various stages to get to the final. Melrose, this is the third quarter

:02:02. > :02:06.final. If they were to get through this, they would meet the winner of

:02:07. > :02:14.Co-Optimists and Sweden, both of which look pretty useful. But

:02:15. > :02:16.another seven minutes to go. Seven minutes for each half of the call

:02:17. > :02:37.ties -- the pool targets. I think it may have been knocked on.

:02:38. > :02:41.Melrose knocked on, I thought it came from a Selkirk hand. The

:02:42. > :03:03.referee said it was an absolute mess and decided fair's fair. Selkirk get

:03:04. > :03:17.the put-in. That is something to give you nightmares. The stand-off

:03:18. > :03:26.calling. Clapperton has still managed to disrupt it. Clapperton

:03:27. > :03:36.penalised and a chance for Jackson. Irvine-Hess, again. A Dodge and a

:03:37. > :03:43.sidestep. They call it a Duke. A chance for Pecqueur. Very close. Did

:03:44. > :03:56.he get it in the corner? The crowd think so. He will have to be very

:03:57. > :04:05.careful with this one. Held up. Outstanding defence. They have done

:04:06. > :04:11.so well. Creating enough space you thought for Pecqueur. He grounded it

:04:12. > :04:36.short, did he? In the process, Adams and MacDougall get across. That will

:04:37. > :04:41.be sore for Pecqueur. They have all got their facts to 25 and 30 on

:04:42. > :04:47.today, I hope, otherwise there will be red faces tomorrow, because it is

:04:48. > :04:55.very hot. Pecqueur, great reach. The ball is short. Is he still in

:04:56. > :05:01.control of the ball? I have no idea how the referee, assistant referee

:05:02. > :05:08.and touch judge managed to get a decision in. But credit to that

:05:09. > :05:12.scramble defence, it was good enough. The pressure is still on. A

:05:13. > :05:19.Melrose scrum. A great position to attack from. The stand-off right

:05:20. > :05:29.behind the scrum so he can get that ball away. Lockington, the man who

:05:30. > :05:36.can do damage. A chance for Melrose in the shape of Craig Jackson.

:05:37. > :05:55.Is it a yellow card? Ross Nixon and Craig Jackson exchanging, as they

:05:56. > :06:01.say, fraternal greetings. Selkirk's scrambles defence. We will come back

:06:02. > :06:07.to the high tackle. That, we must see it again. Lockington at his

:06:08. > :06:16.brilliant best, one against one. Nobody can catch. Just individual

:06:17. > :06:24.brilliance. Not in a bad position pool, defensively. Lockington with

:06:25. > :06:30.the big step and Whyte is made to look foolish as he clutches at Ayr

:06:31. > :06:39.and falls over. Pops over the conversion. A nice cushion for

:06:40. > :06:45.Melrose. Great recognition from Lockington he has Whyte in front of

:06:46. > :06:50.him. He backs himself. Whyte a bigger operator, but not as light on

:06:51. > :06:57.the feet. But that sidestep would have made many a player look silly.

:06:58. > :07:01.It would have made many a professional player happy because

:07:02. > :07:09.that is beautiful. You see that in sevens when they have space and room

:07:10. > :07:13.to manoeuvre in. It is a great opportunity for these players and

:07:14. > :07:18.fantastic for the crowd to watch. The players thrive on the extra

:07:19. > :07:23.space and opportunity to show their sidestep and passing ability. They

:07:24. > :07:29.do not enjoy the cardiovascular work-out they get so much, but it is

:07:30. > :07:37.great to see things like that. Adams takes off. Chased by Anderson.

:07:38. > :07:45.Nobody can catch Adams. He gets another yard closer to the. Five

:07:46. > :07:53.well earned points from the lab from South Africa. -- lad. Selkirk still

:07:54. > :07:57.in this game. It is the beautiful thing sevens gives. The really quick

:07:58. > :08:07.guys get an opportunity to open their legs. Any sort of space. He is

:08:08. > :08:14.absolutely flying. Takes him up to the top of the try scoring board, as

:08:15. > :08:21.well. Can he convert his own try? It was hanging in the breeze and has

:08:22. > :08:25.fallen or wide. He is top points scorer with 27 from five tries and a

:08:26. > :08:32.conversion. Having a great afternoon in the sun. A good take for Melrose

:08:33. > :08:47.by Nyle Godsmark. Knock-on by Selkirk. The last two

:08:48. > :08:55.minutes of this game but it is by no means done and dusted. You would

:08:56. > :09:06.have thought to have had a two score cushion at this stage. Now in their

:09:07. > :09:16.own territory. They will be muttering away to each other. Under

:09:17. > :09:22.cover of the scrummage. Callum McCaig and has come on. He will play

:09:23. > :09:25.scrum-half now and Mikey Davies has moved out to stand-off. Clapperton

:09:26. > :09:33.has gone to centre. Melrose have a session. Lockington is so difficult

:09:34. > :09:51.to bring down. -- Calum McKeown. Murdo McAndrew, who usually plays

:09:52. > :09:57.scrum-half. Beetling his way around the bench. Mice running, Anderson.

:09:58. > :10:02.He could not catch Adams admitted ago but nobody can catch him now.

:10:03. > :10:03.With time running out that it surely the one that puts the game beyond

:10:04. > :10:44.doubt. Patient. Did not get him on the

:10:45. > :10:45.front foot. Waiting for the opportunity to break a tackle. It

:10:46. > :10:46.comes from Anderson. He has the pace to finish that off. That should be

:10:47. > :10:57.that for Melrose. Into the semifinals. They gave you a tough

:10:58. > :11:04.test? It will always be tough. It is Selkirk. Now we are getting better.

:11:05. > :11:08.We have not had a vast amount of preparation but we are slowly

:11:09. > :11:13.getting there and we will have a crack at the semifinal. The crowd

:11:14. > :11:17.are starting to get excited. We will have to rest up quickly, it will be

:11:18. > :11:25.a quick turnaround. We will see how we go. Cheers.

:11:26. > :11:33.Sweden are playing right to left and will take on the co-optimists,

:11:34. > :11:44.principally the Irish sevens team. They have been in a training camp in

:11:45. > :11:49.Portugal. Hugo Cunanan number six waiting in the sunshine for the ball

:11:50. > :11:58.to come his way. We have had some great games but we are at the

:11:59. > :12:03.business end. A throw into the co-optimists. It is tough to call

:12:04. > :12:09.because both teams have impressed. Very much. I think the best

:12:10. > :12:16.impression certainly from Sweden, the way they played in the first

:12:17. > :12:20.game. You are right. You see the kick-off so far, I do not know what

:12:21. > :12:31.has been happening, but Fransson nudged one over the top. You need

:12:32. > :12:45.height on that will stop turned over by the Swedish. The number nine

:12:46. > :12:55.Dennis Melander. You have plenty of flyers and these are a couple here.

:12:56. > :13:03.Nunstedt chasing back. A penalty to the co-optimists. It was a tactic I

:13:04. > :13:08.did not think they should be doing. They had numbers, Sweden. A good run

:13:09. > :13:16.by Nunstedt. We know how fast he can run. That area is well scrutinised

:13:17. > :13:28.by the referee. Missing your touch is not the best thing to do. This is

:13:29. > :13:44.a player, number two, Enstad. The Co-Optimists will have the ball.

:13:45. > :13:53.The Co-Optimists are looking a bit dangerous now. That was a good run

:13:54. > :14:03.from long distance by David Busby, who is chased back by Burke. But he

:14:04. > :14:11.is over for the first try and the Co-Optimists are on the board.

:14:12. > :14:14.Busby. A good handoff. We have said it this afternoon, if you miss a

:14:15. > :14:23.tackle at this stage and level, that is generally what happens. Busby

:14:24. > :14:28.still had a bit of steam. And made good work. The try-line came at the

:14:29. > :14:34.correct time. Another ten yards, I think he might have been caught.

:14:35. > :14:40.Toal-Lennon to put the drop kick over for the extra two points. We

:14:41. > :14:50.have not seen many conversions today. And we still don't.

:14:51. > :15:01.We talk about points making prizes. A couple of tries and a couple of

:15:02. > :15:04.conversions. There we go, he mentioned before, very good in

:15:05. > :15:18.attack that you to make your tackles though. Penalised big-time. The

:15:19. > :15:31.sweet flavour. -- the Swedes leave it. The jumper made a right niss of

:15:32. > :15:43.it. They have done very well. Making inroads. Out to Hector. Into the

:15:44. > :15:54.right wing of Fransen. Big players, they direct running. Jonathan Hector

:15:55. > :16:05.has a high tackle. That's another flyer. None stead around the

:16:06. > :16:13.outside. -- Nunstead. Round the outside for another try. Beautiful

:16:14. > :16:19.weather here at the Greenyards. Still a bit of work to do. Good

:16:20. > :16:25.individual try. This good to before this one. That is his third here, a

:16:26. > :16:33.good clean pair of heels here. Good refereeing as well allowed advantage

:16:34. > :16:41.to be played from a high tackle and in doing so Sweden made the most

:16:42. > :16:49.unschooled very important try. Unsuccessful long kick. Couldn't be

:16:50. > :16:55.more evenly balanced as these teams try to get through to the second

:16:56. > :16:59.semifinal. We know it'll be Harlequins and the Watts Ionians.

:17:00. > :17:02.The second one will be Melrose against the winners of the Swan --

:17:03. > :17:24.Watsonians. The kick. The co-optimists have the ball.

:17:25. > :17:31.Great break from Toal-Lennon, double handed pass to another flyer in this

:17:32. > :17:34.case it is Kennedy and that is glorious rugby because that was from

:17:35. > :17:41.their own try line to the other end of the pitch in the blink of an eye.

:17:42. > :17:46.Funny and not funny. Some tries a very hard to work. As you mentioned

:17:47. > :17:53.a long kick from Sweden there, tactically putting pressure and the

:17:54. > :17:54.court to Mr well. A couple of phases and that is a good clean pair of

:17:55. > :18:13.heels from Kennedy. Toal-Lennon of that conversion and

:18:14. > :18:18.it is a try out of the top drawer because here's the scorer Terry

:18:19. > :18:25.Kennedy. He was in support and these guys look fit. As you said to the

:18:26. > :18:29.first line of defence, drawing the drifter, straight pass, straight to

:18:30. > :18:35.Kennedy, straight between the posts. So often we see it and talk about, a

:18:36. > :18:37.support runner in sevens and that was vital. Toal-Lennon made the

:18:38. > :18:56.space and Kennedy on the shoulder and he takes it. That was lovely.

:18:57. > :19:00.Brought to ground by Kennedy. Nunstead. Good defence by the Irish

:19:01. > :19:13.Toal-Lennon. Shepherding from behind. Intercepted, intercepted by

:19:14. > :19:21.the Co-Optomists. Taking the Long root out to David Busby. A try from

:19:22. > :19:25.David Busby. The co-optimists are just taking the wind out of the

:19:26. > :19:35.Swedish players. You can see they looked tired and that is another

:19:36. > :19:40.try. I don't know what happened there that you can not afford to do

:19:41. > :19:45.that. To give it to some speedsters there. What's we can see there is

:19:46. > :19:52.Busby going for the corner, we will see the Swedish player Justin get

:19:53. > :19:56.his angle correct. He should have kept the player into the corner.

:19:57. > :20:02.Busby to make the kick because two points at the end could be vital.

:20:03. > :20:06.There is the conversion and the half-time score here at the

:20:07. > :20:07.Greenyards in this match is 19-5 and we have had some fantastic action

:20:08. > :20:41.already. It is a great day, look at that. The

:20:42. > :20:48.quarterfinals already, do what Sony ins through. Edinborough Accies

:20:49. > :20:54.lusty Harlequins. Melrose the home team 24-12 over Selkirk. In the

:20:55. > :21:05.latest Corvette 19-5 for the Co-Optomists but you never know. --

:21:06. > :21:10.score here. Before this game I bought the Swedish team would be

:21:11. > :21:13.better because the Co-Optomists looked a bit sluggish, especially

:21:14. > :21:17.after it is a select side they put together for the game today and the

:21:18. > :21:24.Swedes have been playing together for a little bit longer. I saw six

:21:25. > :21:27.of the team were away with the Irish sevens in a training camp in

:21:28. > :21:37.Portugal. They are pretty good players. Also as you say Harlequins

:21:38. > :21:40.are looking pretty good and pretty dominant at the moment that lovely

:21:41. > :21:44.to have an Edinburgh side. Melrose the home side, but this game I don't

:21:45. > :22:01.think is over just quite yet. Toal-Lennon, we have Tobias Borg

:22:02. > :22:05.playing against Will Connors. This could be the first time since

:22:06. > :22:15.Wimbledon. Short ball. Just pulled up. It was you, Connor and Gregor

:22:16. > :22:20.saying a lot of sevens nowadays is the short pass with someone on the

:22:21. > :22:26.anger which is what they tried. Good angle. You're not allowed to pass

:22:27. > :22:45.forward though. Back in it is. Sweden are desperate to get back

:22:46. > :22:49.into the match. Going back to what he said about the angles, the angles

:22:50. > :22:53.are vital to make space but in sevens at this level, when you are

:22:54. > :22:57.one-on-one, you should be able to take your man down and when you

:22:58. > :23:05.don't to see what happens, you are going to make life difficult for a

:23:06. > :23:10.defensive side. When it is done correctly it looks very attractive

:23:11. > :23:18.and it looks like the sevens is an easy game and it is not done too

:23:19. > :23:22.often. Kennedy just takes his man and takes the gas out giving it to

:23:23. > :23:33.Greg O'Shea. With the handoff, down the left wing. He discussed quite a

:23:34. > :23:43.bit about not tackling the man but look how they build this. We know

:23:44. > :23:47.how tend Nunstead can go. The hand nearest the touchline, giving the

:23:48. > :23:54.angle, he had the angle but I would say just a little bit too high if

:23:55. > :24:03.you want to be involved. That little bit there about the man to get him.

:24:04. > :24:12.-- allowed. The shadows lengthen yet more as Toal-Lennon, right footed,

:24:13. > :24:22.look at the practice technique. Two, three and... No hole in. It is

:24:23. > :24:30.funny, we see some great skills and some great parson, some chip forward

:24:31. > :24:34.but tell you what been good. I don't think there has been very many made

:24:35. > :24:42.today. Colin Gregor was saying today when he gone international circuit,

:24:43. > :24:45.they get much more time to practice Jokic conversions and that they do

:24:46. > :24:54.and when you come here you are not many. -- drop-kick. It's a shame

:24:55. > :25:02.there is not been a lot of practice because it is quite a vital part in

:25:03. > :25:05.to the sevens playing. That is Keenan, the big number 60 has a

:25:06. > :25:16.ready scored a try. Top try scorer so far, top points scorer is so far.

:25:17. > :25:28.Those too tired at five apiece as top try scorers. Big abrasive

:25:29. > :25:35.forward there. Gives the ball back to Toal-Lennon. Toal-Lennon with a

:25:36. > :25:39.long slicing pass. When you make the difficult look simple, you know

:25:40. > :25:45.you're watching a good side. That is certainly what happened there.

:25:46. > :25:53.Flighted past, watch this. Of the band had if you are a rugby player.

:25:54. > :25:58.-- bad. Makes life very easy as you say. The Co-Optomists are looking

:25:59. > :26:05.very strong and very committed at the moment. The home side Melrose

:26:06. > :26:10.will have their work cut out because this team will take them on. Just

:26:11. > :26:16.about to get the first semifinals with the Sony versus the Harlequins.

:26:17. > :26:26.Toal-Lennon again with that peculiar little stop. -- Watsonians. Getting

:26:27. > :26:30.lots of practice at the moment. You never know the semifinal we might

:26:31. > :26:40.see his winning touch to get one through the posts. Just to discuss

:26:41. > :26:46.the next one, the time the players have to recover, it could be in

:26:47. > :26:51.Melrose's watch that they have that little bit extra that time will

:26:52. > :27:01.tell. Toal-Lennon Fredericksburg kick. Trying to take the ball out of

:27:02. > :27:05.the sun. Messed up a little bit. Looks as though the Swedes have it.

:27:06. > :27:10.Plenty of pressure from the Co-Optomists. The blue and yellow

:27:11. > :27:19.jerseys have at them. Looking for the half gap. In on the slice.

:27:20. > :27:28.Hector still going, big man. Juices assured through to keep it alive.

:27:29. > :27:37.Sweden then going left to right. Good break, tries to threaded

:27:38. > :27:43.through the gap. That was good defence. Quite an all-round good

:27:44. > :27:49.tomb. The coaching session away has paid dividends at the moment you can

:27:50. > :27:56.see they wouldn't allow that past ago. Has a link the opposition there

:27:57. > :28:04.and in defence the court to Mr looking strong. They are. I think

:28:05. > :28:13.the Swedes know it is not going to be their day. Toal-Lennon it was.

:28:14. > :28:22.Bakhtiar O'Shea. -- back to. Good simple play and it is going to be

:28:23. > :28:26.O'Shea. Still going, O'Shea with the move from the back of the scrum and

:28:27. > :28:35.that simplicity of execution has put the Co-Optomists into the second

:28:36. > :28:45.semifinal for sure. Good individual try here tried this move I think,

:28:46. > :28:49.had a long way to go but again cannot afford to do that. You have

:28:50. > :29:04.to take your man down. You can see what it meant the. -- there.

:29:05. > :29:09.Now there is a successful kick and it is well done to the Co-Optomists.

:29:10. > :29:31.They will be through. 36-5. A very good win for the Co-Optimists

:29:32. > :29:38.against Sweden and only four teams left. We have Watsonians,

:29:39. > :29:42.Harlequins, Melrose and the Co-Optimists. I am looking forward

:29:43. > :29:50.to this. The quality teams have come to the top. Watsonians and Melrose

:29:51. > :29:54.are the two strong Scottish clubs, seven aside. Great to see them in

:29:55. > :29:59.the semifinals. Harlequins have built through the day. The

:30:00. > :30:03.Co-Optimists looking stronger the last game against a team, Sweden,

:30:04. > :30:09.who performed well in their first game and so the semifinals should be

:30:10. > :30:14.crackers. Harlequins had a tough match against Edinburgh Accies. It

:30:15. > :30:18.almost seemed they did not believe they could win against them,

:30:19. > :30:22.Edinburgh Accies and started slowly. That is the way when club teams come

:30:23. > :30:27.up against professional outfits, they think they will be better, more

:30:28. > :30:33.physical and quicker but Edinburgh Accies gave them a game. Watsonians

:30:34. > :30:37.will have to take heart. When they get possession they are an effective

:30:38. > :30:41.team and they will have to make their tackles and shut down the

:30:42. > :30:49.Harlequins attack. Let's get to be live action. The first of the

:30:50. > :30:54.semifinals. Watsonians and Harlequins.

:30:55. > :31:02.This will be a tough test for Watsonians. They have the rugby, do

:31:03. > :31:14.they have the power and skill. Do they have the pace. And there is a

:31:15. > :31:29.lost ball. Jonas Mikalcius has it for Harlequins. Lovely handling.

:31:30. > :31:34.Look at the security of the handling. Pure speed in the race for

:31:35. > :31:41.the touchdown. He has got it. Charlie Walker, clever stuff. If

:31:42. > :31:48.there is one player who has lit the Greenyards it is Charlie Walker. The

:31:49. > :31:52.top try scorer, six. The class act in the Harlequins team. Watsonians

:31:53. > :31:57.have been sloppy this afternoon. They have not had fluidity. That was

:31:58. > :32:01.from a turnover and the Quins capitalised on the error from

:32:02. > :32:06.Watsonians. He was through like a flash of

:32:07. > :32:12.lightning and here he comes with the conversion. Pretty good. That is

:32:13. > :32:18.over, as well. Another couple of points and Harlequins are up and

:32:19. > :32:25.running. Former England under 20 star and represented England sevens

:32:26. > :32:29.in Hong Kong and Japan in 2012. I saw him in those tournaments,

:32:30. > :32:34.certainly showing his class in the academy outfit for the Quins. He

:32:35. > :32:45.certainly knows his way around a rugby sevens game. This is the man

:32:46. > :32:51.of the moment, Charlie Walker. Not quite sure who this big fella is

:32:52. > :32:56.without the number on his jersey. Watsonians, 50-50 ball, knocked

:32:57. > :33:00.forward. An error denies them possession. Even with Gala last

:33:01. > :33:06.weekend, making errors but getting away with it. In the Gala sevens,

:33:07. > :33:12.many of the teams were rusty. Watsonians have been trying to

:33:13. > :33:24.prepare, targeting the Melrose Sevens, having not won here since

:33:25. > :33:29.1996. They were so keen to do well. Jonas Mikalcius, they reckon he is

:33:30. > :33:36.17 stone. He has very quick acceleration. A lovely piece of

:33:37. > :33:47.running. Walker again, beautiful, the handoff, the pace. Still trying

:33:48. > :33:54.to keep the ball. A lovely feed out from Mikalcius again. They great

:33:55. > :34:05.try. Harlequins looking like a well oiled machine. They are capitalising

:34:06. > :34:10.on possession. You had Hart and Drummond. Drummond had to drift out

:34:11. > :34:18.onto his outside man. Skipping through that wide channel was

:34:19. > :34:29.Asplund Robinson. And there was a lovely wiggle of the

:34:30. > :34:34.body, weaving away from the incoming tackler. This is the conversion

:34:35. > :34:40.attempt and he is on target with the try and conversions. That is his

:34:41. > :34:45.second conversion will stop Harlequins find themselves 14 points

:34:46. > :34:51.ahead, just over halfway through the first half.

:34:52. > :34:56.Watsonians will have the ability to claw it back but at the moment,

:34:57. > :35:15.Quins in command. Bodies banging into each other. Half

:35:16. > :35:21.a chance for Watsonians. Cullen had to kick ahead.

:35:22. > :35:39.Angus Duckett up with the tackle. That could have been Scott

:35:40. > :35:50.McKeane. Cullen has him by the ankles but the support is there and

:35:51. > :35:55.Quins, another drive. This one will be right under the sticks and a

:35:56. > :36:01.conversion to come. Dino Lamb touching down. Try number three.

:36:02. > :36:05.There is a gulf in class between this man, Charlie Walker, and the

:36:06. > :36:11.other players on the field. We have talked about his England experience.

:36:12. > :36:20.The 24-year-old, he is the old head in this Academy team. These players

:36:21. > :36:25.are full professionals. Warren Abrahams is the Academy coach. You

:36:26. > :36:38.feel as though it is that experience and fitness. Also the understanding

:36:39. > :36:44.of the sevens game. This is the ace in the pack, he has the acceleration

:36:45. > :36:51.and know-how. It shows. Look at the off-load under pressure. Also the

:36:52. > :36:57.teamwork of Watsonians has gone to pot. They have not worked as a unit.

:36:58. > :37:03.A little bit going as individuals. I think they've missed Harris, the

:37:04. > :37:06.stand-off. A great competitor and playmaker. Does a lot of running for

:37:07. > :37:28.them. And here they come again. This is more like it and a chance

:37:29. > :37:35.for Drummond. Out the back door with a pass. Duckett looking for the

:37:36. > :37:47.off-load. Drummond again, swatting them away. Sidestepped. Taken

:37:48. > :37:52.through. Almost there but not quite. Watsonians hack to work to get to

:37:53. > :37:56.the try-line and the Quins were right up in defence. Cullen has

:37:57. > :38:02.recently signed a contract with Bristol. Bundled into touch.

:38:03. > :38:07.Watsonians have been outclassed in this first half. Three converted

:38:08. > :38:21.tries for Harlequins. This is a lovely scene at the

:38:22. > :38:26.Greenyards, as the players get their breath after an exhausting first

:38:27. > :38:35.half in which Harlequins scored three tries, one by Walker, one by

:38:36. > :38:43.Robinson and another by Dino Lamb. Number 10. There he is. Taking on

:38:44. > :38:48.water. You could almost say today Charlie Walker walks on water,

:38:49. > :38:54.because he has been the star of this tie and certainly the star went

:38:55. > :39:02.Harlequins have paid previous ties. The top scorer on 36 points. As you

:39:03. > :39:07.said at half-time, he certainly is the ace in the back. His experience

:39:08. > :39:13.has told. The way players have responded around him. People like

:39:14. > :39:20.Dino Lamb, he has gone well. James Laing, who is on the bench, he has

:39:21. > :39:29.performed well, along with Calum Waters. That Charlie Walker has

:39:30. > :39:34.caught the eye. In that is such a great part of the Scottish rugby

:39:35. > :39:43.scene. It is one of the most beautiful views in world rugby. I

:39:44. > :39:48.cannot think of anywhere better. The setting of the Hong Kong sevens, it

:39:49. > :39:53.is absolutely tremendous. The Hong Kong tournament is going on this

:39:54. > :40:09.weekend. Let's see if Watsonians can produce something in this second

:40:10. > :40:16.half. A lovely sidestepped made the opposition dead. Great start to the

:40:17. > :40:20.second half for Watsonians. They have a long way to go but that will

:40:21. > :40:30.give them heart and encouragement. Beautifully taken try by Watsonians.

:40:31. > :40:39.Ferguson absolutely nailed it into Steele. Just the off-load and on the

:40:40. > :40:45.cutback was Drummond. Missed the conversion so it remains 5-21. The

:40:46. > :40:53.conversions are vital. If they can put them over, they can get back in

:40:54. > :40:58.contention. Jack Ferguson, once part of the Scotland seven setup. Out in

:40:59. > :41:16.Dubai. He has had limited gametime. A wayward pass which gives them

:41:17. > :41:24.problems to solve. McKean trying to back himself. The speed of the ball

:41:25. > :41:36.to the man in the open is vital. This is Steele, he can run. Being

:41:37. > :41:47.chased. Hart. Not offside, says the referee. What a run, what a great

:41:48. > :41:58.piece of opportunism by Harlequins. The touchdown behind the crossbar.

:41:59. > :42:02.Try number four for Harlequins. This is the sloppiness I was talking

:42:03. > :42:08.about. Watsonians have played like this all afternoon. They have

:42:09. > :42:12.coughed up ball and Harlequins have exploited this. There was an

:42:13. > :42:20.opportunity when Angus Duckett went through. Sometimes in sevens, the

:42:21. > :42:26.understanding that is so important, sometimes does not happen. The pass

:42:27. > :42:35.was not made. I think it was Tom Hart on the deck. The turnover.

:42:36. > :42:42.Cullen handed off. Harlequins have paced throughout the team. Very much

:42:43. > :42:49.so. The next tie dream Melrose and Co-ops, which have plenty of pace

:42:50. > :42:56.and it might be the pace of the Co-ops that takes them into the

:42:57. > :43:03.final. McKean, the pass was forward. That crucial pass. As Steele tried

:43:04. > :43:23.to deliver it they may have been impeded. Andrew Kerr. Part of the

:43:24. > :43:27.coaching setup at Watsonians. They will be disappointed because they

:43:28. > :43:33.have not won enough ball to challenge the Quins. This is a good

:43:34. > :43:38.Harlequins side. They have played good sevens rugby. They have showed

:43:39. > :43:50.power and pace, possession of the ball. The crucial facets of seven

:43:51. > :43:56.aside rugby. Look at that, straight back. Calum Waters for the second

:43:57. > :44:02.time. He is a tough lad, playing scrum-half.

:44:03. > :44:13.Away goes the big fella. Jonas Mikalcius on the far side and

:44:14. > :44:23.another try. Try number five in this semifinal. Harlequins are looking

:44:24. > :44:28.very comfortable. Jonas Mikalcius, the Lithuanian player. Have not seen

:44:29. > :44:36.as much of him today as I thought we might. Playing up in the forwards.

:44:37. > :44:39.He plays on the wing for Lithuania. The conversion coming in. That is a

:44:40. > :45:00.good kick. Another couple of points. I think that was Luke Jones. He came

:45:01. > :45:07.off the bench. Look at that. Fading in beautiful stuff. The Harlequins

:45:08. > :45:13.are rotated the squad and everyone has played their part. Here is Rory

:45:14. > :45:32.still popping it out to the far side. , the way it goes. Touch down

:45:33. > :45:37.in the corner. That is the 40 mark and really Harlequins are giving,

:45:38. > :45:48.professionals against amateurs. Getting a bit of a lesson here.

:45:49. > :45:58.Played in the world sevens in Twickenham, making that height and

:45:59. > :46:10.weight difference for the Harlequins. Harlequins won here

:46:11. > :46:22.before Bill, when did they win? 1987? That's right. Hastily looking

:46:23. > :46:26.at his notes. People who know me know my memory wouldn't rise to

:46:27. > :46:32.that. However I have it in front of me. There are so many players in the

:46:33. > :46:37.competition is impossible to know each and every one, this 240. You

:46:38. > :46:44.have done pretty well to get 239 right. I think so one identify the

:46:45. > :46:53.Jedforest man wrong. I got a pelting on the street. Don't tell anybody.

:46:54. > :46:59.They could do with a consolation here, they have one already. Trying

:47:00. > :47:22.very hard to break away. Davidson might. Not quite. Rory still has the

:47:23. > :47:32.gas to get there. Can this be a try? Another good try from the what Sony

:47:33. > :47:38.and is. -- Watsonians. The support play was integral here. And the

:47:39. > :47:45.conversion goes over as well. So there we are. And with that final

:47:46. > :47:51.conversion, the referee indicates it is full-time. A pretty decisive win

:47:52. > :48:05.for Harlequins we have to say. They go into the final winners over

:48:06. > :48:09.Watsonians. 40-12. Thank you Bill. As the referee comes out to have the

:48:10. > :48:15.Co-Optomists coming out, Melrose taking the field at their home and

:48:16. > :48:18.this is a big match because this is the second semifinal. Melrose

:48:19. > :48:22.against the Co-Optomists. The winners take on the Harlequins in

:48:23. > :48:28.the final and keep your eyes out at some stage because Adams, the

:48:29. > :48:35.speedster is in the Melrose ranks and there is the lead. An incredible

:48:36. > :48:40.day of action we have had a ready and vital that Melrose can get

:48:41. > :48:48.through. Then we have the home team against Quins, if not we have the

:48:49. > :48:53.Co-Optomists and as we said they are the Irish sevens team in the sevens

:48:54. > :49:09.squad there. They have looked very effective. Just waiting to Craig

:49:10. > :49:21.Jackson to get things under way. Second semifinal.

:49:22. > :49:35.Jackson can run but will they be able to cope with the Irish who have

:49:36. > :49:49.plenty of invention. Keenan, Kennedy and Connors.

:49:50. > :50:02.A tense game this will be. Melrose desperate to win it. Trying to get

:50:03. > :50:08.the maul. The men in blue and white, there is general temp-macro. Out to

:50:09. > :50:22.a more abrasive player. Busby into contact. Connors. Toal-Lennon.

:50:23. > :50:29.Keeping possession. Keenan again. Good defence by Melrose so far. Can

:50:30. > :50:32.they get behind the line? Toal-Lennon has the ability to look

:50:33. > :50:39.as though he has time. Kennedy is through. Kennedy chased all the way

:50:40. > :50:44.but is going to make it. What a score that is. They were patient,

:50:45. > :50:52.inventive and ultimately they have the space. A minute of possession

:50:53. > :50:55.for the court to missed since a kick. Going wide and then they

:50:56. > :51:02.decide through Toal-Lennon they will come back down the short side. Great

:51:03. > :51:17.execution and again the pace of Kennedy to quickly Jackson.

:51:18. > :51:27.The well rehearsed kicking routine. Looks to have sent it to the

:51:28. > :51:33.right-hand side and it will bounce clear. Melrose a bit of a shock,

:51:34. > :51:37.five points down, two minutes gone. Important for Melrose to get hold of

:51:38. > :51:41.the ball. They haven't touched Craig Jackson kicked it off and went to DT

:51:42. > :51:48.contest and the call to Mr they're all about going through the phases.

:51:49. > :51:56.Again just the importance of this restart now.

:51:57. > :52:02.That was well read wasn't it because they went beyond the ball. The

:52:03. > :52:16.Co-Optomists in possession. Toal-Lennon. On the break. Tackle by

:52:17. > :52:25.Evan Hess. Toal-Lennon. Thinks about... Cruise the extra of metres.

:52:26. > :52:38.Still with the Co-Optomists. Penalty. Just not rolling away after

:52:39. > :52:41.making the tackle. Almost account a rock their former waste to renewable

:52:42. > :52:51.back. The Co-Optomists was retaining it. They recognise that loose ball

:52:52. > :52:56.and they get the chance to attack. Toal-Lennon, Busby, a shorter ball,

:52:57. > :53:01.a simple score from Connors. They just accelerated onto the gap there.

:53:02. > :53:09.Defended out of the right-hand stroke. A simple try. Simple try

:53:10. > :53:12.because it was well executed. Just a change of line from Connors, Melrose

:53:13. > :53:19.are looking out to drift outside the touchline. Connors comes back

:53:20. > :53:26.against the grain because of that. Getting on the soft shoulder of the

:53:27. > :53:36.Melrose defence. Two tries in four minutes. Toal-Lennon them.

:53:37. > :53:43.Looking for the extra two. And this time you successful. Melrose will

:53:44. > :53:52.have to get themselves in gear. Colin Gregor. We saw Jason Baggot

:53:53. > :54:00.come on. I think they are expecting a similar kick-off. Melrose Dhoni to

:54:01. > :54:03.panic -- Melrose Dhoni to panic. It's a case of making sure when they

:54:04. > :54:13.do have the ball that they have the patience to go through. That will

:54:14. > :54:20.unlock the defence. Could this be the chance? Couldn't get it. A

:54:21. > :54:29.chemical to missed tablets and they are trying get it. Looking for the

:54:30. > :54:32.scrum. You explain this, like Scott Hastings was saying, the sevens you

:54:33. > :54:38.very much have to have the ball, if you don't then you cannot go to

:54:39. > :54:43.tries. That is where Melrose getting the ball now are so important. Five

:54:44. > :54:46.minutes of the half they have not had possession, I don't think they

:54:47. > :54:52.have made a pass yet. They have only conceded two tries so 12 points in

:54:53. > :54:59.seven is easy to get back it's just making sure they go through phases

:55:00. > :55:05.and make the Co-Optomists defend. Running out of space. Backers

:55:06. > :55:16.Jackson. Thinks about it and that is a knock-on, it'll be whatever

:55:17. > :55:19.happens. Irish possession. Melrose spooked there and it is Colvine with

:55:20. > :55:22.bad accuracy. Looks like they weren't sure what they were doing

:55:23. > :55:25.off the face. Normally in sevens you get the ball out wide and then

:55:26. > :55:34.stretch the defence played on the way back. Melrose just a bit tight

:55:35. > :55:38.and indecisive there. Too narrow and then the error is forced. The first

:55:39. > :55:47.attacking opportunity and they fell to make any art.

:55:48. > :56:02.Toal-Lennon cleanly back. At the Keenan. To Kennedy. Kennedy is

:56:03. > :56:09.through again. Intercepted by Jackson. Jackson can fly. Melrose

:56:10. > :56:19.possession. Now it has gone back to the Co-Optomists. Play on. Hodgson

:56:20. > :56:28.with a little dancing step. Got himself between two players. He is a

:56:29. > :56:36.bundle. Melrose have the penalty. They thought they'd given away the

:56:37. > :56:42.penalty. Outstanding defence from Colvine to save a certain try.

:56:43. > :56:54.Mahrez now back on the attack. Godsmark. The shorter ball. To

:56:55. > :57:02.Baggott. Jackson. Great break. Two fantastic little steps this time.

:57:03. > :57:08.Austin Luckington as you said, just need the ball. In for the score. 12

:57:09. > :57:17.points down. They were 12-5, could be converted and you can sense the

:57:18. > :57:23.crowd willing this Melrose team. As we see trying to get his breath

:57:24. > :57:28.back. That sorely needs. He manufactured that space, just how

:57:29. > :57:35.effective these were the right side step foot and he just about had the

:57:36. > :57:38.pace to get away. The benefit for him is he scored on half time said

:57:39. > :57:47.he gets the whole half-time break to reclaim his breath. We have a

:57:48. > :57:52.5-point game here at Melrose. This is the score. Talk this through the

:57:53. > :57:58.skill. We can see the Co-Optomists defender Keenan is coming from the

:57:59. > :58:02.breakdown, he is quite natural. He recognises that our Bax 's ability

:58:03. > :58:10.with the right footstep. Get on the soft shoulder and then a step on the

:58:11. > :58:20.sweep as well. Again so explosive. Important for Melrose to get back in

:58:21. > :58:23.that. Half-time score is Melrose seven - 12 Co-Optomists. We note the

:58:24. > :58:29.Harlequins are in the final, will be these men or will it be the

:58:30. > :58:37.Co-Optomists. It has been a great afternoon already. We have had so

:58:38. > :58:44.many tries. Charlie Walker six. Adam Swift five. The wind is gentle. The

:58:45. > :58:47.temperature is mild. And this big crowd in during a spectacle and I've

:58:48. > :58:57.always wondered why the Melrose rugby players. Look at that.

:58:58. > :59:03.Beautiful day. And the moon has the best view. It has been a stunning

:59:04. > :59:08.day. The action on the pitch has matched it. A festival of rugby in

:59:09. > :59:13.this game is living up to expectations as well. Again the

:59:14. > :59:19.importance of the restart. He will get the ball and who will launch the

:59:20. > :59:26.first attack. Right to left for the Co-Optomists. We have a key

:59:27. > :59:35.second-half now. Toal-Lennon up into the air, bravely went on and knocked

:59:36. > :59:42.on. Melrose possession. Keenan close to getting that. Like the salmon he

:59:43. > :59:59.was eyes on the ball the whole time. Intent on getting to it.

:00:00. > :00:06.Crikey, what a step he has, Lockington. He had the score the

:00:07. > :00:10.other end of the pitch, we have just started the second half and it came

:00:11. > :00:17.off his right foot. What an extraordinary game. Lockington with

:00:18. > :00:25.two rapid tries. If they get this kick, will have given Melrose the

:00:26. > :00:30.lead. Outstanding. You could watch a sidestep like that all day. Shane

:00:31. > :00:34.Layden coming out of the scrum, chasing, thinking that Lockington is

:00:35. > :00:44.going on the outside. He unleashes that right footstep. The change has

:00:45. > :00:53.changed completely. Lockington. Look at the right footstep. He has

:00:54. > :00:59.acceleration to burn. He has had the two tries. I think many imagined the

:01:00. > :01:03.Co-Optimists would be a tough nut to crack and Melrose are doing their

:01:04. > :01:15.best with the sledgehammer that is Lockington. Knock-on.

:01:16. > :01:32.A quality restart. Melrose so close to maintaining possession.

:01:33. > :01:46.Untidy play. Colvine down the left-hand side. Lockington, width,

:01:47. > :01:51.width. This is a break, this time by Patrick Anderson. Penalty is going

:01:52. > :02:01.the way of Melrose, out the back door. Could it be, could it be? What

:02:02. > :02:14.a score. Melrose from being two tries down our three tries to two

:02:15. > :02:22.up. Pecqueur. Like a scalded cat. Good work from Anderson. No panic.

:02:23. > :02:36.They have the advantage. We almost see another glimpse of the moon.

:02:37. > :02:43.Irvine-Hess does not want to die with the ball. It is important in

:02:44. > :02:48.sevens if you get the off-load a way to keep launching an attack. He is

:02:49. > :02:53.alert to the stray ball and has the pace and power to finish it. If

:02:54. > :03:02.Melrose can make it to the final, we have quite an afternoon. Clutched

:03:03. > :03:15.out of the sky by Ned Hodson. Co-Optimists have ability. Is it a

:03:16. > :03:22.knock-on? It is Melrose possession. Three minutes left to see if Melrose

:03:23. > :03:28.can get through to the final. What do they have to do? Ideally keep a

:03:29. > :03:34.hold of ball. The second half has been similar to the Co-Optimists'

:03:35. > :03:38.dominance in the first half. They have played it in the Co-Optimists'

:03:39. > :03:51.half, scored a couple of quality tries. As we see, Adams. The Selkirk

:03:52. > :03:57.player. Because of injury they have gone with Adams. He is as quick as

:03:58. > :04:05.anybody around. He thinks about going around the outside. Anderson

:04:06. > :04:20.kept it alive. This is Lockington. Vital they do not get turned over.

:04:21. > :04:35.Two minutes left and Jackson looked up, the route was blocked. Knock-on.

:04:36. > :04:46.He thought there was no offside. We have a game here. The referee is

:04:47. > :04:54.saying one and a half on its left. Melrose trying to slow the game

:04:55. > :04:58.down. The key is they have possession to make sure they are

:04:59. > :05:08.rock solid at this scrum. Giving Adams another run at the ball, he

:05:09. > :05:16.did well last time. Toal-Lennon doing everything he can to disrupt,

:05:17. > :05:23.as is big Shane Layden. Lockington again trying to give it to Adams and

:05:24. > :05:27.it is a penalty. Just got isolated. Here come the co-optimists. Ned

:05:28. > :05:37.Hodson. Carrying the ball confidently.

:05:38. > :06:10.Hugo Keenan. He is through. The Co-Optimists get their try. Melrose

:06:11. > :06:11.have to hang in as the conversion is done quickly. On that occasion,

:06:12. > :06:12.Jackson, the defender, he is tired. McAndrew chasing across the

:06:13. > :06:22.touchline. Worried about the pace on the outside. If there is

:06:23. > :06:31.infringement, Melrose win. Melrose have it. All they have to do is kick

:06:32. > :06:38.it into touch and the game is over and it is knocked out of his hand

:06:39. > :06:40.and that is a brilliant result for this tournament because Melrose are

:06:41. > :06:48.through to the final of the Melrose Sevens at Greenyards. Extraordinary

:06:49. > :06:54.result because they have beaten some of the Irish sevens squad. Quite a

:06:55. > :06:58.game. It was. We talked about the Co-Optimists building a lead but it

:06:59. > :07:08.was only 12 points despite the dominance. Melrose has faith in

:07:09. > :07:12.their ability. A couple of game changing tries around half-time and

:07:13. > :07:20.they have the quality to finish it off. A happy bench and that is the

:07:21. > :07:25.man who joined them, Adams. The real stuff is still to come. The finals.

:07:26. > :07:36.A popular win in the studio here. Doddie Weir used to play for the

:07:37. > :07:49.co-optimists. But of course they Melrose player in his younger days.

:07:50. > :07:53.A brilliant match. It was said before that every game they are

:07:54. > :08:00.improving. They were sluggish may be in the first game. Melrose are still

:08:01. > :08:06.involved in a lot of 15 cups and finals and have not been organising

:08:07. > :08:14.the sevens. Every game they improve and it is great they will get to the

:08:15. > :08:19.final. The crowd will stay. They will stay anyway. This is Melrose's

:08:20. > :08:23.home tournament. They are in the final, which means they get 20

:08:24. > :08:32.minutes, in the bottom half of the draw, and Harlequins will have plus

:08:33. > :08:35.15. I was speaking to a Melrose official bemoaning the fact he could

:08:36. > :08:43.not understand why that happened. For credit to Melrose, I think it is

:08:44. > :08:52.the right result. They tested the Co-ops. Great to see Lockington,

:08:53. > :08:57.unlocking the Co-Optimists' defence. You could watch that sidestep,

:08:58. > :09:02.individual skill on show. Melrose rugby club have taken on the club

:09:03. > :09:08.game. Everything that is good about Scottish club rugby. They are on for

:09:09. > :09:12.the treble. They are looking to improve in the way they play but

:09:13. > :09:18.also facilities here. Trying to get planning for pitches which would

:09:19. > :09:24.mean it would be the last time we see grass here. And to cap it all,

:09:25. > :09:28.in the final of their own sevens. It will be live in 20 minutes. We can

:09:29. > :09:43.remind ourselves of the semifinal results. A great win for Harlequins.

:09:44. > :09:51.The word legend is overused but the next fellow I am going to talk about

:09:52. > :09:56.fits into that category. He started commentating for the BBC in 1986 and

:09:57. > :10:01.now has decided to hang up his microphone. His love of rugby is

:10:02. > :10:07.infectious. Earlier today Melrose rugby club paid tribute by giving

:10:08. > :10:12.him a posted, presented by Jim Telford. Their tribute, and this is

:10:13. > :10:29.ours. Good afternoon and welcome to Rugby

:10:30. > :10:35.Special in Scotland. We are back for the famous Melrose Sevens. He is

:10:36. > :10:42.iconic in Scottish rugby. His voice is well loved, he is well respected.

:10:43. > :10:46.He is a big part of Scottish rugby. The move from amateur to

:10:47. > :10:51.professional rugby, having his voice in the commentary has been part of

:10:52. > :10:58.our development. We have enjoyed some rain... What is happening?

:10:59. > :11:08.Probably the best rugby commentator, certainly on radio. He has had that

:11:09. > :11:13.voice, instantly recognisable. COMMENTATOR: A great try for the

:11:14. > :11:17.youngster. There is a first and passion for rugby and always has

:11:18. > :11:29.been in the Borders and it comes out in more Wade and one. Borders has a

:11:30. > :11:33.heritage of reducing good commentators. Bill McLaren,

:11:34. > :11:39.everybody knows him. And see him about. Everybody in the Borders is

:11:40. > :11:42.proud. You almost felt like you were there with him when he commentated

:11:43. > :11:50.on the games. He understands what the guys go through in sevens. The

:11:51. > :11:57.lung busting runs you have to do. COMMENTATOR: That truly is the

:11:58. > :12:04.winner for Melrose. It was always really important as someone from the

:12:05. > :12:08.Borders leading the commentary at the Melrose Sevens which is why Bill

:12:09. > :12:21.is there, he is the best and doing it at the best place to do it, at

:12:22. > :12:26.Melrose. You are all right. Bill was emotional, you could tell, his last

:12:27. > :12:34.Scotland game and doing his last Melrose Sevens. I am sure he will

:12:35. > :12:40.get a great sendoff from the crowd. Show your appreciation for Bill...

:12:41. > :12:47.Now they have to find somebody who can live up to what he has done.

:12:48. > :12:53.That will be difficult. It will be very hard to replace that magic

:12:54. > :13:03.boys. The sidestep was magical! Brilliant rugby. Like a valley

:13:04. > :13:08.dancer. -- like a ballet dancer. You have always been very positive and a

:13:09. > :13:14.great supporter of rugby in Scotland. Because I am half Jed, it

:13:15. > :13:18.is always great to talk about Jed rugby and Borders rugby with you.

:13:19. > :13:23.Good luck and I hope everything works out for you because you are a

:13:24. > :13:31.brilliant man to be around. That is it for this edition of Scottish

:13:32. > :13:39.Rugby Special. STUDIO: Bill Johnson, a man who loves the game. How are

:13:40. > :13:44.you feeling now? One more game to go on the TV. You will work on radio

:13:45. > :13:51.for a little while. But this last final and Melrose in the final. I am

:13:52. > :13:55.delighted for Melrose but not so delighted with the pictures of the

:13:56. > :14:01.olden days. These were great days but this has been another lovely day

:14:02. > :14:07.at Melrose and it is great that the host side has made it to the final

:14:08. > :14:11.against the odds. Brilliant. What are your highlights of the long

:14:12. > :14:18.career, 31 years on the microphone for the BBC? Too many to name. If I

:14:19. > :14:27.were to speak about Melrose Sevens. We have seen David Campese. Many

:14:28. > :14:33.others. Wonderful teams from the Borders. Before I started

:14:34. > :14:38.broadcasting, but some great teams. Since I have started broadcasting,

:14:39. > :14:43.there are too many memories in club games, professional, Glasgow-

:14:44. > :14:48.Edinburgh games. And internationals. I have a host of memories. Bill, we

:14:49. > :14:52.have a host of memories thanks to you and the way you describe this

:14:53. > :14:56.game. You do it incredibly well and you are an incredibly positive

:14:57. > :15:02.spirit to be around. Everybody has a good word to say about you and we

:15:03. > :15:08.will be sad to see you go. I feel it is the right time to call a stop. I

:15:09. > :15:15.have no ulterior motives. It is just I think this is a good time. Helen

:15:16. > :15:22.and I will try to do some walking. I will do it very gingerly, I think!

:15:23. > :15:26.You do nothing gingerly. It is fantastic, I have loved working with

:15:27. > :15:27.you over the years and we wish you the best in your retirement. Thank

:15:28. > :15:37.you so much. All the best to you bishop, you're a

:15:38. > :15:42.fine, fine gentlemen. Right, straight into the men ease

:15:43. > :15:47.dressing room. What happening Dougie? Quite a

:15:48. > :15:52.performance you produced in the semi-final? They did well. They dug

:15:53. > :15:57.out. The bench had a good impact when they came on.

:15:58. > :16:04.Ten minutes each way. We will leave everything out on the field and see

:16:05. > :16:08.how close we can push them. Bruce, obviously a lot taken from

:16:09. > :16:12.the tank. But do you feel there is plenty left? Definitely. The home

:16:13. > :16:17.tournament you always find the extra. When it starts to hurt and

:16:18. > :16:21.burn, there is always a wee bit extra in the tank. It's that part of

:16:22. > :16:26.the final and we're looking forward to it.

:16:27. > :16:33.How much of the home support helped you? It's massive. Really great to

:16:34. > :16:38.have a great crowd down here on such a beautiful day. They help us get

:16:39. > :16:44.over the line. The very best of luck to you, boys.

:16:45. > :16:48.That is interesting. It will be interesting how they are

:16:49. > :16:54.after the final. They will be like this! It's the atmosphere, you sit

:16:55. > :16:59.back. You are settled. There is such history behind the tournament it

:17:00. > :17:03.inspires you to do things you don't normally do.

:17:04. > :17:09.And we know all about that history. Let's have a look at the road to the

:17:10. > :17:16.final. The first match was against Dundee. A good one as well. It was a

:17:17. > :17:23.tough one. I think that the score was 19-1. Dundee made them work for

:17:24. > :17:28.it. Melrose were concentrating hard being in the 15s game. But they

:17:29. > :17:33.found the game, the flow and did some good tries and marched away

:17:34. > :17:40.from tonne tee and get into the next round.

:17:41. > :17:43.And against seg Kirk? And the number six jersey on the right of your

:17:44. > :17:50.picture. He is involved in everything that is good about the

:17:51. > :18:03.game. A tremendous try there to knock out the." The Co-Optimists.

:18:04. > :18:07.They had been behind them and they can't afford to do it now, the

:18:08. > :18:11.Quinns. They are strong. Very strong.

:18:12. > :18:16.Let's get a sense of how strong they are feeling. Andy is in their

:18:17. > :18:23.dressing room at this moment. I have the coaching captain with me.

:18:24. > :18:28.Tony, how impressed are you with the boys reaching the final? It's been

:18:29. > :18:33.excellent. A tough transition. We were almost undone by the abies. But

:18:34. > :18:40.we will give it a good go against the hosts in the final.

:18:41. > :18:44.Charlie, in great form. How has the Melrose Sevens experience been for

:18:45. > :18:48.you? It's been great. Buzzing to be in the final.

:18:49. > :18:52.Are you prepared to be the boys to spoil the party against the home

:18:53. > :18:56.team? Hopefully. We will give it all we have got. There are tired legs

:18:57. > :19:01.out there. We will be dangerous.

:19:02. > :19:04.Tony, the quince won this 30 years ago, it would be nice to repeat the

:19:05. > :19:10.history? We came up to be competitive. Hopefully we have been

:19:11. > :19:15.about. England/Scotland in the final, the hosts versuses. Wii had a

:19:16. > :19:18.great time, we would like to finish it off now.

:19:19. > :19:22.The very best to you. They are looking happy. They have

:19:23. > :19:26.been good. Charlie Walker has been the star

:19:27. > :19:33.man. The experience playing for England. He has been directing the

:19:34. > :19:38.traffic. The top point scorer, the top try scorer and excellent all

:19:39. > :19:42.round. And Tony said that they rotated the bench and have pace

:19:43. > :19:48.across the board. The Melrose boys are fit but so are

:19:49. > :19:55.the Harlequins. They are pros? They are. They know how to play the game.

:19:56. > :20:01.They have talent. There are more backs, there are less

:20:02. > :20:07.props and forwards. This shows what you have going. Speed men and the

:20:08. > :20:12.Harlequins' team have that in abundance. Here, the Edinburgh

:20:13. > :20:17.Academicals, they run them close here. So that gives Melrose

:20:18. > :20:22.confidence about taking them on and trying them at their own game. But

:20:23. > :20:28.you have to make the tackles count if you don't, once you start playing

:20:29. > :20:35.the ball they are hard to beat. And the Watsonians, well beaten by a

:20:36. > :20:41.good side? I felt that they were sloppy all afternoon. It was

:20:42. > :20:47.commanding position and territory. It was an outstanding performance by

:20:48. > :20:51.the harlequins. And the Watsonians had trained for the tournament but

:20:52. > :21:05.they were out shone by the Harlequins team.

:21:06. > :21:09.They were. It is harlequins against Melrose in the Assess Management

:21:10. > :21:12.Sevens. These guys have picked out four of

:21:13. > :21:20.the best tries of the afternoon. Let's have a look at them.

:21:21. > :21:25.Scott McKeen? Watsonians against Kelso.

:21:26. > :21:31.He plugged well for this one. Lots of good skills thrown. The Sevens

:21:32. > :21:38.here is the team work. The fact that there is a delayed try. But this was

:21:39. > :21:41.a peach from George Arner. And sometimes in Sevens you have to back

:21:42. > :21:47.yourself with the player. He cut the angle. Escaped through the defeigned

:21:48. > :21:55.and then the Arne out dive and shuffle.

:21:56. > :22:02.It's like the Arne out Windig. What have you... And Adams who scored a

:22:03. > :22:08.few tries. This is the second of his tries in the game? The South African

:22:09. > :22:15.has been a star. He could win a Melrose Sevens medal. Evans, the

:22:16. > :22:27.beauty about the sport is that some of the fast guys get their chance.

:22:28. > :22:31.And then Greg. -- Greg O'Shea. He duck tackles and still has the pace

:22:32. > :22:36.and the presence to finish it off. What we call a lung buster.

:22:37. > :22:43.Absolutely. Four crackers.

:22:44. > :22:49.There were hundreds of tries. It was very difficult to choose. When we

:22:50. > :22:55.left there were about 120 tries scored. We found this was the one.

:22:56. > :23:01.Up against Dundee, Melrose, although I don't agree with this, a bit of

:23:02. > :23:08.showmanship. A lovely guy. A Goodwin but this is what took it. A wee bit

:23:09. > :23:13.of showmanship. And hopefully, it will be agreed with everyone, it's

:23:14. > :23:17.the Arne out shuffle there. It's a celebration of the great

:23:18. > :23:23.play. It's been a beautiful top of the field rugby. A lovely day. Not

:23:24. > :23:30.so much wind. Great diplays from teams and players from the first

:23:31. > :23:33.round? Bill was saying he has commentated on fantastic ties. And

:23:34. > :23:38.some of the best players he has seen.

:23:39. > :23:42.You could name lots of players here. They come here because it is the

:23:43. > :23:47.setting, the heritage, the culture. When you consider there are 40,000

:23:48. > :23:52.people over three days going to Hong Kong this weekend, the fact is it

:23:53. > :23:57.started here. The home of Sevens. Because it is an Olympic sport, the

:23:58. > :24:01.World Cup is in San Francisco. It goes across the world. Hundreds of

:24:02. > :24:09.millions of people watch this game. For me it is just an exciting. And

:24:10. > :24:13.as a former Scotland Sevens captain, the Sevens gave me everything to

:24:14. > :24:19.give me the confidence and the skill set. I hope that the kids get out in

:24:20. > :24:26.the garden. Play the game. It is where you analyse the skill set to

:24:27. > :24:33.make you a better rugby player. And an interesting win here for

:24:34. > :24:38.Edinburgh. One of the oldest rivalries in the world going

:24:39. > :24:44.head-to-head. A very Goodwin for Edinburgh by

:24:45. > :24:51.19-12. All happening behind our backs. A Goodwin for Edinburgh.

:24:52. > :24:54.Let's pay attention to the final. Harlequins against Melrose, what do

:24:55. > :24:59.you think about this as a Melrose man yourself.

:25:00. > :25:05.I think it will be a difficult final for Melrose. They have a shorter

:25:06. > :25:10.rest but at this time of the season, the boys are certainly fit enough.

:25:11. > :25:14.But back to the original position, what people play, this is special,

:25:15. > :25:19.playing with this crowd watching as well, for us to be involved on the

:25:20. > :25:24.outside, for the players on the pitch it is special. Some don't

:25:25. > :25:29.witness this, this is why with Melrose with the crowd, it will help

:25:30. > :25:34.them. But they have to shut the runners down. The Harlequins are

:25:35. > :25:40.dangerous. Can Melrose do it snrnths Yes, they

:25:41. > :25:46.can. If they leave it out on the Pischel and deny the harlequins

:25:47. > :25:55.possession and stop the rhythm and stop Charlie Walker playing. Then

:25:56. > :26:02.they could be in with a chance. This is the 2017 final, Melrose v

:26:03. > :26:05.Harlequins. Position, pride, honour, in the

:26:06. > :26:14.heart of the Scottish Borders, a battle of wit, of skill, of speed.

:26:15. > :26:21.A test of heart and spirit. Many stars have graced the hallowed turf.

:26:22. > :26:29.Heroes have been born, and legends grown over time. Today the kings of

:26:30. > :26:37.2017 will be crowned... This is Melrose, home to the oldest rugby

:26:38. > :26:48.Sevens tournament in the world. The final coming up live of the

:26:49. > :26:54.Aberdeen Asset Management 2017 Sevens.

:26:55. > :26:59.And we will take you through this one at The Greenyard.

:27:00. > :27:10.Charlie walker leads the harlequins out on to this famous turf. The last

:27:11. > :27:18.time Harlequins won here was 1987. Melrose last won here in 2011. A big

:27:19. > :27:23.win against Hamilton, 35-17. Both sides have experience of success

:27:24. > :27:38.leer. On the pitch. And as the sunset and the crowd applauds

:27:39. > :28:04.warmly. Ly here he come out. There are the Harlequins players.

:28:05. > :28:15.So, here we are. Colin Gregor beside he, we are ready for the kick-off of

:28:16. > :28:24.the Melrose Sevens final. Harlequins get the game under way.

:28:25. > :28:30.Possession is vital. If the company borders are to win

:28:31. > :28:38.this against the much-fancied Professional side.

:28:39. > :28:42.Ten minutes each way. There is Locking it's ton. He makes

:28:43. > :28:50.things tick. He gets them out of jail there.

:28:51. > :28:54.All of this is quite close to Melrose's try line. 20 metres away.

:28:55. > :28:58.Here come the Harlequins. A chance for Walker.

:28:59. > :29:12.He's got the try. Despite the tackle by Irvine-Hess,

:29:13. > :29:17.Harlequins have got the opener. Jonny Walker. The strength of

:29:18. > :29:22.Harlequins all day has been their defence and on that occasion the

:29:23. > :29:34.loose off-load from Melrose. Because they are in the Melrose 22, it is

:29:35. > :29:38.just great pace, and he has the strength, Charlie Walker, to finish

:29:39. > :29:51.it off. Walker's conversion going wide. He has the extra gear. He

:29:52. > :29:56.does, and it is his acceleration. Irvine-Hess sitting on his heels and

:29:57. > :30:00.when Charlie Walker wants to go, he explodes and Irvine-Hess cannot

:30:01. > :30:10.quite catch. On the touchline is the 17 stone figure catching the ball,

:30:11. > :30:36.Jonas Mikalcius. Craig Jackson. Outside it goes.

:30:37. > :30:52.Danger time for Melrose. Colvine is in. The Borders side is all square

:30:53. > :30:59.after two and a half minutes. Excellent response from Melrose.

:31:00. > :31:07.Pecqueur does well. Harlequins win the ball back. A counter ruck. Nyle

:31:08. > :31:11.Godsmark and Jackson. And the left footstep from Colvine. Charlie

:31:12. > :31:22.Walker, over the try line. Great response. That is some conversion.

:31:23. > :31:24.Craig Jackson. Harlequins five, Melrose seven as Jackson pops over

:31:25. > :31:38.the conversion. Two vital points. See if Melrose can apply the

:31:39. > :32:10.pressure from the start. Melrose tigerish and feverish in

:32:11. > :32:20.tackle. Calum Waters not going too far this time. Take your time.

:32:21. > :32:24.Colvine again. Can he make it himself? No, he can't. Bounces into

:32:25. > :32:45.touch. Support could not get there. Melrose making a nuisance at the

:32:46. > :32:49.breakdown. It is vital they do that. Harlequins have gone through phases.

:32:50. > :32:55.They have no possession and scored tries off the back of it.

:32:56. > :33:01.Did you see that? That was unbelievably lucky. It is a great

:33:02. > :33:08.breakaway. It will be a fine try for Harlequins. It is Calum Waters who

:33:09. > :33:15.gets the score. We will have to look at it again because it was a lucky

:33:16. > :33:21.ricochet. Calum Waters recognising Melrose did not have a sweeper in

:33:22. > :33:28.place. The kick execution was not what he wanted. He has the pace and

:33:29. > :33:34.awareness to finish things off. And he pops over the conversion. And so,

:33:35. > :33:46.that is seven points for Harlequins, which takes them to 12-7 stop again,

:33:47. > :33:50.Melrose' best defence, they have been making a nuisance of the

:33:51. > :33:55.breakdown. Calum Waters tries something different and ultimately

:33:56. > :34:02.it comes off. Very fortunate. This lad, Calum Waters, has the build of

:34:03. > :34:08.a sprinter. Very powerful. Lockington will try to open up the

:34:09. > :34:19.Harlequins defence. Very good rugby. That was Pecqueur in the follow-up.

:34:20. > :34:23.Nyle Godsmark. When you are under pressure and trying to do things

:34:24. > :34:28.quickly, it is when the errors creep in. We see the value of the

:34:29. > :34:34.off-load, getting Melrose in behind the Harlequins defence. Great

:34:35. > :34:39.recognition and awareness, he has been tackled and house to release

:34:40. > :34:46.the ball but as he pops up it goes forward. Just unfortunate that the

:34:47. > :34:56.attack comes to nothing. Aspland- Robinson needing treatment.

:34:57. > :35:02.Harlequins regroup. All of them young guys, all in their 20s, apart

:35:03. > :35:11.from Charlie Walker, the grand old age of 24, poor soul. An absolute

:35:12. > :35:22.veteran! Waters. Look at him go. You can see the mud leaving the soles of

:35:23. > :35:36.his boots. Irvine-Hess in the thick of it. Right through the middle. A

:35:37. > :35:43.desperate tackle. Harlequins not releasing. That is the pressure

:35:44. > :35:47.Melrose have put them under. Harlequins have not faced this sort

:35:48. > :35:52.of intensity and pressure today. They are not coping so far. Melrose

:35:53. > :35:58.are making it a real fight at the breakdown and they will get a lot of

:35:59. > :36:16.success from that. That was an unforced error. Indicating, there he

:36:17. > :36:23.is, a Hawick man. It is one of the things I like about rugby, whenever

:36:24. > :36:27.the format it, the players except for the referee says. They get on

:36:28. > :36:32.with the game and there are no histrionics about the decision. They

:36:33. > :36:39.may feel it but they do not show it. Craig Jackson has had a word and the

:36:40. > :36:47.referees said the assistant referee called it, so I have two this on to

:36:48. > :36:50.him. Perfectly clear. It is worth remembering Melrose had the second

:36:51. > :36:56.of the semifinals and so they have the shorter of the two rests will

:36:57. > :37:04.stop a chance for Melrose, half a chance. Pecqueur brought down.

:37:05. > :37:12.Picked up by Lockington. Colvine. Keen to take on the opposition. He

:37:13. > :37:24.knows somebody has to to penetrate. Anderson, strong and weaving. Walker

:37:25. > :37:30.is the fast man. Pecqueur will try... Here they go. A chance.

:37:31. > :37:37.Lockington is a way. Can he make it to the line? That looked like a high

:37:38. > :37:48.tackle. Watch the referee's decision. Very, very close. Now, it

:37:49. > :37:55.is a penalty try. For a high tackle in the act of scoring. It is all

:37:56. > :38:05.square, 12-12, and the replay will tell all. And Harlequins are down to

:38:06. > :38:16.six. Aspland- Robinson working so hard. In the process of scoring and

:38:17. > :38:23.it is a penalty try, right under the posts. There is a buzz around the

:38:24. > :38:31.Greenyards because the host side are back in the lead in the final. In

:38:32. > :38:36.the crowd is packed. They have stayed to watch this. It has been

:38:37. > :38:40.such a glorious day. By Dennis said there will be red faces tomorrow

:38:41. > :38:50.because of the sunshine, but -- I dare say. Irvine-Hess getting hold

:38:51. > :39:06.of Dino Lamb. Jonas Mikalcius, brought down by Nyle Godsmark. This

:39:07. > :39:12.is danger for Melrose. Waters, caught by Jackson. This is the guy

:39:13. > :39:17.who has the extra gear when it comes to speed. Nobody can get him. That

:39:18. > :39:23.is lovely running. Charlie Walker puts his foot to the floor and away

:39:24. > :39:31.he goes. They kept him out wide but Harlequins in this seesaw final...

:39:32. > :39:38.Is it a try? He has not touched it down. He has been held up. How on

:39:39. > :39:44.earth did that happen? What about Patrik Andersson, I think it is. He

:39:45. > :39:50.does not give up. Charlie Walker thinking he is scoring again. It

:39:51. > :39:57.would have been his eighth. And then Charlie Walker does not try to put

:39:58. > :40:03.it down. It looks like the arm was underneath but rather than fighting

:40:04. > :40:09.to put it down... He comes in, has a look, and that is at half-time. All

:40:10. > :40:20.of this in the first ten minutes. Melrose narrowly in the lead. Look

:40:21. > :40:26.at the crowd, just loving this and loving the atmosphere. And those are

:40:27. > :40:31.the guys who have entertained them this afternoon and they have it all

:40:32. > :40:39.to do. They have another ten minutes to make sevens history at the

:40:40. > :40:43.Greenyards. Again it is almost like scoring a try, the psychological

:40:44. > :40:50.boost they get from Charlie Walker not grounding the ball. And also how

:40:51. > :40:53.disappointed he is. It is so much hard work and energy expended. The

:40:54. > :41:00.pace around Lockington, outstanding work. Patrik Andersson is miles away

:41:01. > :41:07.but he wants to narrow the angle for the conversion. He was strong enough

:41:08. > :41:14.to lift up Charlie Walker, not one of the biggest of players, about 13

:41:15. > :41:20.stones, thereabouts. And Andersson, he might have earned his name in the

:41:21. > :41:24.record books. Having got the rub of the green with the charge down kick

:41:25. > :41:30.that ricocheted into the hands of Calum Waters for a score early in

:41:31. > :41:47.the half, they do not get quite so lucky then.

:41:48. > :41:56.That is a free ball for the opposition. Half-time was needed for

:41:57. > :42:01.Melrose. The fact it is ten minutes, the extra three minutes. The second

:42:02. > :42:12.semifinal, they have had less recovery. Hopefully they have been

:42:13. > :42:22.re-energise. Calum Waters caught in the far side. Just on the stroke of

:42:23. > :42:28.half-time. This is the man on whom the whole thing focused. My

:42:29. > :42:32.goodness, it bounces but he has a penalty because he was taken out

:42:33. > :42:38.after the chip ahead and that is a yellow card and it is Colvine, the

:42:39. > :42:43.Melrose captain. They stand no nonsense in seven aside rugby. That

:42:44. > :42:48.might have earned a penalty in 15s, although he might have gone off as

:42:49. > :42:58.well. Both teams down to six. Away goes Irvine-Hess. Lockington slides

:42:59. > :43:08.off the tackle. Gabriel Ibitoye beside him. Piracy by big Gabriel

:43:09. > :43:12.Ibitoye for Harlequins. Jonas Mikalcius striding away and this

:43:13. > :43:18.will put Harlequins back in the lead. Going in behind the crossbar.

:43:19. > :43:24.The guest side goes back ahead. Great work from Gabriel Ibitoye on

:43:25. > :43:28.the ground. Because he has won the turnover, Melrose are not set

:43:29. > :43:39.defensively and there is nobody on that side of the pitch and Jonas

:43:40. > :43:47.Mikalcius recognises that. Charlie Walker puts it over in the

:43:48. > :43:53.conversion. Our Harlequins back up to seven? Yes, they are.

:43:54. > :44:01.Melrose have got to stem the flood. They do because they are down to six

:44:02. > :44:10.for the next minute, as well. The sun behind the kick-off, difficult

:44:11. > :44:22.for the players to take. Big Dino Lamb. And Aspland- Robinson with the

:44:23. > :44:29.ball. A six strong lad. Waters and out it goes to Charlie Walker,

:44:30. > :44:36.trying to do it all himself. A chance for the big lad, Dino Lamb.

:44:37. > :44:40.Melrose looked just a bit tired in the tackle and outflanked on this

:44:41. > :44:50.side. Harlequins work the ball over to this touchline. Yes, it is

:44:51. > :44:54.desperate defence. Pecqueur steps in on the man leaving Jackson to try to

:44:55. > :45:02.make the tackle. It is a tired effort. The intensity with which

:45:03. > :45:07.Harlequins play at, it looks like it is taking its toll. That is an

:45:08. > :45:12.absolute shocker, missing a conversion in front of the posts.

:45:13. > :45:21.waters Dino Lamb with a try. He took his on conversion. Not quite

:45:22. > :45:27.so successful kicking as he was scoring the try.

:45:28. > :45:30.Patrick Anderson has been subbed off Melrose' side.

:45:31. > :45:34.Bruce Colvine is back on. All goes into touch.

:45:35. > :45:40.And the jumpers will be pleased in the line out that the sun is behind

:45:41. > :45:43.them. It's a low setting sun. You will maybe see the length of the

:45:44. > :45:47.chargers on the field in a second or so.

:45:48. > :45:53.Melrose on the bench looking anxious there. So here's the throw in.

:45:54. > :45:56.Melrose' ball. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink did the

:45:57. > :46:04.damage there. Here goes Austin Lockington. Look at the wee fellow

:46:05. > :46:10.with that side stepping! Oh, he's got the side step in.

:46:11. > :46:14.Jones is back. Opportunity knocks for Melrose if they can get the ball

:46:15. > :46:26.wide in a hurry. There's a man wide on the left. Come on, Godsmark can't

:46:27. > :46:34.make it. A great final this. It is absolutely nip and tuck. Harlequins

:46:35. > :46:36.ahead, 24-14. The knock on is given. Just marginal errors. Bruce Colvine

:46:37. > :46:53.not quite able to take it. On the spot.

:46:54. > :46:57.A tough call there. Colin, it was unfortunate that the

:46:58. > :47:00.Melrose captain, Bruce Colvine, knocked on there. It was a great

:47:01. > :47:06.opportunity with the men on this side? It was and again, coming from

:47:07. > :47:10.Austin Lockington. Off set pieces. The right foot step. It's so

:47:11. > :47:17.effective. It gets Melrose on the front foot. They worked hard to win

:47:18. > :47:22.the breakdown over the far touchline under the stands. And then the pass

:47:23. > :47:28.dipped. It was a tired pass. Bruce Colvine as he bent to get it,

:47:29. > :47:32.looking at the on rushing Harlequins' defence. Melrose are

:47:33. > :47:39.running on empty. Almost running on fumes. They have taken Godsmark off

:47:40. > :47:51.and Tythan Adams. . And they have brought on Murray.

:47:52. > :47:59.Now that's professionalalism and conditioning.

:48:00. > :48:03.They have to grab him. They have. Austin Lockington and Adams did the

:48:04. > :48:06.draw. They took two of them. 20 minutes is what we are looking for

:48:07. > :48:15.on the clock on the screens. That's the full-time. There is a score

:48:16. > :48:21.line. Harlequins, 24-14, ahead. 4.5 minutes to go, or theres about.

:48:22. > :48:27.A penalty to Melrose. Colvin bring it is this way. This is

:48:28. > :48:32.McAnd roux. Austin Lockington got through. He is just about running on

:48:33. > :48:39.empty. No energy to break a half tackle. Well worked by Melrose.

:48:40. > :48:45.Colvin again. McAnd roux. Great running here.

:48:46. > :48:51.Melrose are all over them. Plaque and yellow, like a swarm of bees.

:48:52. > :48:56.Colvin sees the gap, has he got the pace? No, he hasn't. McAndrews

:48:57. > :49:00.bulldozed out of it. Bodies everywhere. There will be a score

:49:01. > :49:08.for the Harlequins from long distance. Look at this, unless Ivans

:49:09. > :49:14.gets across. It will need two men. Oh, he's got him into a touch at the

:49:15. > :49:18.end. A fabulous defence by Melrose and away they come on the counter.

:49:19. > :49:29.Now, then, this is Sevens at its best and most exciting. You can hear

:49:30. > :49:34.the crowd rice to this. "Come on, Melrose" they're shouting, ""come

:49:35. > :49:39.on, Tythan Adams". Chased by Melrose. Craig Jackson is there.

:49:40. > :49:43.Let's see what the referee's decision is. What excitement, what

:49:44. > :49:49.an event. It didn't kick on. I don't think it

:49:50. > :49:54.was a knock-on, rather. But what work from Adams to get all the way

:49:55. > :50:00.back and hit the quick sand. It was knocked out of his hand from the

:50:01. > :50:05.Harlequins. It should have been try-scored.

:50:06. > :50:09.That was an adventure. Adams working his way back. A try

:50:10. > :50:14.saver in the corner. Not happy with that. Getting the ball in play. The

:50:15. > :50:19.interchange between him and Marcos Baghdatis.

:50:20. > :50:23.It is pinched by McAndrew. He's is scrum-half in 15s.

:50:24. > :50:30.Worldliwise in that part of the game. Off side by Harlequins. There

:50:31. > :50:36.is a half gap for everything, for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink but he

:50:37. > :50:41.has now. Three to one up, outside, inside, he's there! Score for

:50:42. > :50:48.Melrose! McAndrews gets the touchdown. 24-19. There's a long way

:50:49. > :50:53.to go. Jackson misses the conversion. Maybe should have taken

:50:54. > :50:57.more time. However, five points between the sides.

:50:58. > :51:02.Well done McAndrew. He snaffled the ball at the back of that scrum. They

:51:03. > :51:08.threw the dummy and got over the line. Big Jackson hurries the kick.

:51:09. > :51:21.Misses it. But they are back to obviously the five points. They will

:51:22. > :51:26.have it take tonne extra time. -- They will take it to extra time.

:51:27. > :51:33.Look at this snarling. Trying to get them wrapped up. Forced into touch.

:51:34. > :51:42.Great play by the big fella. The big harlequin down on the deck, Lamb.

:51:43. > :51:45.Now, that stand side was called. Melrose are looking down, applauding

:51:46. > :51:56.and cheering their side. Urging them on.

:51:57. > :52:02.Jonas Mikalcius shrugs his shoulder of the.

:52:03. > :52:09.Look at the time. They have to get the equaliser and

:52:10. > :52:13.convert it. For Harlequins there is fatigue

:52:14. > :52:18.here. They tonight work hard enough to get depth off the ball. They

:52:19. > :52:22.shovel past. It gives Melrose a chance to attack.

:52:23. > :52:27.This is Austin Lockington trying to do it again by himself. He may have

:52:28. > :52:33.lost it. He has. A chance for the Harlequins. Away

:52:34. > :52:39.they go again. This is going to be Charlie Walker making amends for his

:52:40. > :52:44.earlier error. That seal it is for the guest side, 29-19. Harlequins

:52:45. > :52:52.get the try. With time running out and in fact they are unfelt here.

:52:53. > :53:02.-- in fact they are on full-time here. That could be the one that

:53:03. > :53:05.seal it is for the Harlequins. Poor Lockington, he is down on the

:53:06. > :53:10.ground. It's that man, Charlie Walker with

:53:11. > :53:16.the final try of the day. Walker's conversion goes over.

:53:17. > :53:20.31-19. A big scoreline there, that belies how close that final has

:53:21. > :53:34.been. In the end it's a win for Harlequins. Their first since 1987.

:53:35. > :53:40.They will take the Melrose Cup. Well, I am standing here with Tony

:53:41. > :53:47.Dipro. Sum up the emotion, you got the job done? It's a relief.

:53:48. > :53:52.Whether or not chartie would score or not. And then fuming about the

:53:53. > :53:56.conversions. The guys were tired. One was against the post. It could

:53:57. > :54:01.have been crucial. But the guys worked hard. A brilliant final. The

:54:02. > :54:06.boys were shattered at the end of a great day.

:54:07. > :54:10.Melrose gave it an almighty effort. Roared on by the crowd. They gave

:54:11. > :54:16.you a fright? Completely. They wereful in. That was good. The play

:54:17. > :54:19.from their own end at the end to turning us over in the corner was

:54:20. > :54:24.magnificent. They have a lot to be proud of.

:54:25. > :54:29.30 years ago, Harlequins won the title, beating Melrose in the final,

:54:30. > :54:34.nice to repeat that bit of history? Yes, and hopefully, some of the guys

:54:35. > :54:41.will push on in the game. A few guys that we have big expectations for in

:54:42. > :54:45.the 15s game as well as the Sevens. There are many that have done the

:54:46. > :54:48.same. Hopefully it will be the same for some of these guys.

:54:49. > :54:52.Well done, Tony. Thank you for having us.

:54:53. > :54:59.Impressive stuff, Harlequins. Holding on to the end.

:55:00. > :55:04.The leading cup, you know all about lifting that, Scott. It is a great

:55:05. > :55:10.moment for a rugby player, when you are up against it? I thought Melrose

:55:11. > :55:15.were outstanding. Full credit to Harlequins and dare I say it, the

:55:16. > :55:20.captain, Charlie Walker was the stand out player. He had the last

:55:21. > :55:24.say in the tie. What a fantastic day. A fantastic

:55:25. > :55:26.final. Let's hand over for the

:55:27. > :55:33.presentation. Let's have a look at the scenes at

:55:34. > :55:41.the Main Grandstand. This Melrose Sevens and the Sevens convener, Ian

:55:42. > :55:49.Cooper with the Cup in front of him and alongside him Trevor Jackson and

:55:50. > :55:52.Gordon Chism, all of them do so much work to make the competition is so

:55:53. > :55:56.much success. The Cup is to be presented to the

:55:57. > :56:01.captain of the Harlequins' team, Charlie Walker. The players all come

:56:02. > :56:06.along and get their medals. This is what the players really want. This

:56:07. > :56:16.Melrose Sevens medal. It is coveted all over the world of rugby Sevens.

:56:17. > :56:21.These lads have managed to do it. So we'll just see the moment when

:56:22. > :56:30.Charlie Walker gets the Cup here from Mrs Lawson.

:56:31. > :56:37.Great excitement of course. There we are. There is the cup held aloft in

:56:38. > :56:45.the hands of the Harlequins' captain, Charlie Walker, deserving

:56:46. > :56:50.winners of this year's winners. The Harlequins side did a fantastic

:56:51. > :56:52.job. They are a professional side, a young developing professional side

:56:53. > :56:57.but a good team. Very much so. Dougie. Spot on. A

:56:58. > :57:01.very good team. Credit where it is due. Mell ruchings amateur, they

:57:02. > :57:08.gave absolutely everything here today.

:57:09. > :57:13.It was fun-packed, drama in the final, decisions, were they correct,

:57:14. > :57:18.were they not, certainly the score did not reflect any chance that

:57:19. > :57:22.Melrose could have taken the victory but they didn't. Harlequins came

:57:23. > :57:27.here, a young side. It shows that little bit of difference.

:57:28. > :57:32.Reflecting a great day of rugby here, Scott? Yes, the shots here.

:57:33. > :57:37.The trophy has been competed for since 1987. So many famous players

:57:38. > :57:43.have held the trophy. It is such a special moment. One of the proudest

:57:44. > :57:49.days of my career when illicited it back in '96. I'm sure that Charlie

:57:50. > :57:53.Walker will be delighted to put his Harlequins's name on the Cup.

:57:54. > :57:58.And they are the deserving team? Yes, very much. But this is the

:57:59. > :58:03.final gam of Bill Johnson and this will be remembered for that as well.

:58:04. > :58:06.It certainly well. It has been a glorious and a fantastic day. All of

:58:07. > :58:14.the smiles from the guys in the team. They played brilliantly up

:58:15. > :58:21.against the Melrose side. A valiant defence. From all of us here and all

:58:22. > :58:23.the team at The Greenyard, thank you so much for your company. Goodbye

:58:24. > :59:00.for now. MUSIC: Get Up and Use Me

:59:01. > :59:02.by Fire Engines This is a story of Scotland's

:59:03. > :59:08.post punk music scene. but it's about being fast, intense,

:59:09. > :59:14.and we're done. They were literally

:59:15. > :59:22.changing the world. It just felt like Scotland

:59:23. > :59:25.was alive.
