:01:07. > :01:18.Comfortably the best team in the world. They are playing some

:01:19. > :01:22.incredible rugby. I want to play against the best teams to see how we

:01:23. > :01:32.can react to being under serious pressure. On the day that you are

:01:33. > :01:34.going to beat them, you need them to underperform and you need to be at

:01:35. > :01:46.your all-time best. You would like to think that an

:01:47. > :01:53.Irish team is definitely capable, in the future, of beating them.

:01:54. > :02:00.Difficult to get over that self-confidence and natural ability

:02:01. > :02:04.they have. Now is the time. 27 times they have tried and 27 times it has

:02:05. > :02:09.proved beyond them. A solitary draw four decades ago is as close as it

:02:10. > :02:13.comes. The Irish team in Dublin today may have half an eye on

:02:14. > :02:17.history but they will need a complete focus on their opponents

:02:18. > :02:22.from half a world away if 27 is not to become 28. An average of almost

:02:23. > :02:29.40 points conceded why Ireland in the past ten meetings. They are only

:02:30. > :02:33.human might not superhuman, not bigger, not stronger, though, and

:02:34. > :02:39.that is the All Blacks, and that is the thing. That is why you cannot

:02:40. > :02:46.get a ticket for love nor money here at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin

:02:47. > :02:50.today. Green collides with black. There is a strange sense of

:02:51. > :02:54.expectation here that after our event were beaten so comprehensively

:02:55. > :02:58.by Australia last weekend, the only way is up and who better to be on an

:02:59. > :03:05.upward spiral against the mighty All Blacks? The Ireland captain and

:03:06. > :03:10.Steve Woodward, for whom this was a significant weekend tenures ago, are

:03:11. > :03:16.our guests. There have been a few handy all-black teams over the years

:03:17. > :03:24.but is this one of the best? To go through the whole season saying

:03:25. > :03:28.13-1-13, in the league they play, is tremendous. This is a tremendous

:03:29. > :03:34.team. I do not think they are quite as good as everyone believes. All

:03:35. > :03:40.the teams will have to have a big step up. Clive has mentioned the

:03:41. > :03:44.unbeaten record so far this year. It has been a long old season for them.

:03:45. > :03:48.The key thing to date perhaps is to make sure they are all up for this

:03:49. > :03:52.but they will certainly want to finish this season with an unbeaten

:03:53. > :04:01.record. They will. When you look at this one, there are big teams.

:04:02. > :04:06.They have all done incredibly well but they will have the fear that

:04:07. > :04:09.they had at the last game that is and when they had the cup against

:04:10. > :04:16.England. That is think that Ireland will try to play on. But it is an

:04:17. > :04:23.incredibly impressive element to come through the whole 12 months.

:04:24. > :04:36.What do you make of their hurling technique? That was a great stunt. I

:04:37. > :04:41.remember doing that years ago with teen son broke and he was atrocious

:04:42. > :04:44.on one day and on the following day he was brilliant because he spent

:04:45. > :04:49.the whole night in the field. The third leg of what has been a long

:04:50. > :04:52.road we weekend starting on Friday in Cardiff and yesterday in

:04:53. > :05:00.Edinburgh. Let's see the best moments of those two days.

:05:01. > :05:11.COMMENTATOR: Leigh Halfpenny, Owen Williams...

:05:12. > :05:50.While tackled, but here it is. A great finish by Ashley bag.

:05:51. > :06:14.COMMENTATOR: It is one tackle slipped. There is the first try of

:06:15. > :06:45.the match. Scott Johnson said he was fed up

:06:46. > :06:52.with being an heroic loser but that was Scotland's fate once more.

:06:53. > :07:01.Another defeat for Italy. Interesting defeat with Samoa going

:07:02. > :07:05.down to Georgia. Eight days ago Australia where he and handed out a

:07:06. > :07:08.real reality check to Ireland, so it will be interesting to hear what the

:07:09. > :07:10.Irish coach has been up to over the past week to try to repair this

:07:11. > :07:34.damage. COMMENTATOR: Again, here at the

:07:35. > :07:42.Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland versus Australia.

:07:43. > :07:55.It is going to be a brilliant try for Australia.

:07:56. > :08:06.Cooper scores Australia's second try. Set piece try for Cooper. It is

:08:07. > :08:17.working. They claim the try. Australia have won handsomely at the

:08:18. > :08:28.Aviva Stadium. Has there been much soul-searching

:08:29. > :08:33.this week given the performance against Australia? Not really. I

:08:34. > :08:39.would say there performance was not as bad as the score stacked up to

:08:40. > :08:43.be. We conceded a pushover try from a line-out that we were really

:08:44. > :08:48.unhappy about. But at the same time we did develop a little bit of play

:08:49. > :08:53.and asked a feud questions of them. Got close to scoring a few times

:08:54. > :08:58.ourselves as well. It is about being more accurate. You have to ring the

:08:59. > :09:02.intensity in that was not quite there and I think the All Blacks do

:09:03. > :09:07.bring that out in most things, so hopefully we can deliver that today.

:09:08. > :09:13.Only island stand in the way of New Zealand in a clean sweep. Does that

:09:14. > :09:18.crank up the magnitude of the task today? Probably, because it cranks

:09:19. > :09:21.up the determination to perform and they have a high level of

:09:22. > :09:26.determination in the first place. I have no doubt that they will be

:09:27. > :09:29.highly motivated and really difficult to contain. It was touch

:09:30. > :09:35.and go all week as to whether O'Driscoll, Kearney, Sexton would

:09:36. > :09:40.play. They do. Is it a bit of a risk, given the opposition? There

:09:41. > :09:43.are always risks you have to manage and that is one of the things we are

:09:44. > :09:48.trying to manage this week. One of the most destructive things is the

:09:49. > :09:56.training week was compromised as a result. Johnny has only really done

:09:57. > :09:59.one training with us but he brings that leadership and experience we

:10:00. > :10:05.need against the quality of side we are up against today. Good luck. We

:10:06. > :10:15.need some. Thank you. Nice to see a coach being so honest.

:10:16. > :10:24.It all starts in the front row. Rory Best needs to have a better

:10:25. > :10:27.performance, as does Mike Ross. Ireland were sadly lacking in

:10:28. > :10:33.leadership skills last weekend. Paul O'Connell needs to deliver. Devin

:10:34. > :10:42.Toner needs to do much more than just front out in the line-out. The

:10:43. > :10:48.one change in the side has been at nine, Conor Murray coming back in,

:10:49. > :10:55.bringing in physicality, and then we seek Jonathan Sexton back in the

:10:56. > :11:05.starting, with all the doubts over his head this week.

:11:06. > :11:17.In the back row, big doubts over Rob Kearney. Tommy Bogart injured last

:11:18. > :11:23.weekend. You mention in particular the back row. Who are the key

:11:24. > :11:27.figures that will be determining who gets the ascendance? It is hard when

:11:28. > :11:31.you talk about last week's performance but the lack of

:11:32. > :11:36.intensity was a huge problem. Peter O'Mahony will be a key element will

:11:37. > :11:41.stop he was unbelievably quiet last weekend. We cannot afford to have

:11:42. > :11:46.that again. He keeps saying he does a huge amount of work that we need

:11:47. > :11:51.to see it. Sean O'Brien, I still think, is playing out of position in

:11:52. > :11:56.number seven. I think he's a world-class number six. He can play

:11:57. > :11:57.very well but whether he will be able to out- puzzle Richard McCoy, I

:11:58. > :12:06.do not know. There is always talk of mind games

:12:07. > :12:16.when you play against the All Blacks. Is there an element that you

:12:17. > :12:20.are almost going in on the defensive before you even actually take the

:12:21. > :12:27.field? I think you have to be really careful. You do not beat the All

:12:28. > :12:32.Blacks by not saying the name All Blacks. I think they should be just

:12:33. > :12:39.focusing on their own game. How we're going to get intensity. Almost

:12:40. > :12:44.building them up, looking forward to be Haka, and getting away from the

:12:45. > :12:53.stunt. It has to be a massive step up from last weekend. You did the

:12:54. > :12:59.same in 2003 and 2005. Do you think that our and have the mental agility

:13:00. > :13:03.to deal with the All Blacks? In the media they refer to them always as

:13:04. > :13:08.the All Blacks. This is just 15 players in black shows from New

:13:09. > :13:12.Zealand. That is what we did then. But we did not focus on that too

:13:13. > :13:17.much. Couldn't play the game faster, could we score more tries? It it was

:13:18. > :13:25.not all about what we would call them. That came out in the media.

:13:26. > :13:29.The dude drove me mad, the media calling these guys superstars. They

:13:30. > :13:34.are just 15 men. But when you look at the All Blacks, if you are a

:13:35. > :13:39.player but also involved in the ancillary staff as well, and you

:13:40. > :13:47.think, how many of our players could get into their side? I would always

:13:48. > :13:50.think there was no one in betting that would make our team. You're

:13:51. > :13:57.always trying get this across that it is 15 against 15 and they are

:13:58. > :14:00.beatable. With your eyes rolled to have an excavation mark with New

:14:01. > :14:04.Zealand, even when you think you have got them on the road, they

:14:05. > :14:11.always manage to find a killer punch.

:14:12. > :14:15.Everyone always asks, how do you beat the All Blacks? I am going to

:14:16. > :14:23.ask you. Just played better than them, I guess. I have not thought to

:14:24. > :14:26.much about it. We just make sure our week is all about preparing well and

:14:27. > :14:34.coming out with that intensity and purpose and a range of skill sets.

:14:35. > :14:39.You will say it is just another game but how important is it to you and

:14:40. > :14:46.your players that you finish this Queen -- clean sweep? It will be

:14:47. > :14:51.nice but the most important thing is that we perform well. We know we are

:14:52. > :14:55.a talented group. If they perform well it will be a reflection of how

:14:56. > :15:01.well we have prepared, what we have done at training. Then if we get

:15:02. > :15:07.beaten then Ireland have played better than us and we will just have

:15:08. > :15:12.to take it on the chin. Six changes, albeit two enforced through injury.

:15:13. > :15:16.What is the thinking behind that? It looks like a lot of changes but a

:15:17. > :15:20.couple of the front rowers have changed around. One starting and

:15:21. > :15:24.want now coming off the bench. We use the whole 23 man squad every

:15:25. > :15:28.time and we also think that fresh legs is important at this point in

:15:29. > :15:33.the year for us as well. So six changes.

:15:34. > :15:43.Keith. Even when the All Blacks chop and change it always looks

:15:44. > :15:49.incredibly imposing. There has been a very late change and Brodie

:15:50. > :15:54.Retallic is back in. Kieran Read is number one player in the world at

:15:55. > :16:03.the moment but Retallick is number two. This has just been the sharpest

:16:04. > :16:13.element of New Zealand's game, Read am a McCaw and Luatua. They always

:16:14. > :16:18.deliver. And behind that, Clive? Crude and gets a real chance that to

:16:19. > :16:29.establish itself. Arguably the best midfielder in world rugby, mine

:16:30. > :16:32.only. -- Ma'a Nonu. And the world's best back three. This is the

:16:33. > :16:35.strength of this New Zealand team. An awesome team that is missing

:16:36. > :16:44.probably the most famous rugby player in the world.

:16:45. > :16:50.A spectator again today, Dan Carter. The other macro story of my year

:16:51. > :16:57.really. A summer to enjoy after this but

:16:58. > :17:05.right throughout the week, concentrate on this game and finish

:17:06. > :17:10.the season well. If the All Blacks can end with a clean sweep this

:17:11. > :17:14.season, how much does that added to motivation? We have realised how

:17:15. > :17:20.real that is. Involved in a side that has achieved that, it is

:17:21. > :17:23.important we turned up today and play streaming well because I am

:17:24. > :17:28.sure the Irish will be fired up and will want to beat us tonight so we

:17:29. > :17:34.had better make sure we go to those dark places and do the little things

:17:35. > :17:39.well. There are no short cuts. What is the secret to your success?

:17:40. > :17:45.People keep asking it. The environment that we are creating,

:17:46. > :17:52.dies I wanted to achieve greatness -- guys are wanting to achieve. No

:17:53. > :17:56.matter who is playing, they want to reach such a high level. We put a

:17:57. > :18:05.high focus on getting better every week. So never look too far ahead.

:18:06. > :18:09.We want to be better than we were last week and we want to continue to

:18:10. > :18:13.improve. Thank you for your time. Our plans for not being on the pitch

:18:14. > :18:18.today. JOHN INVERDALE: On a different time

:18:19. > :18:23.zone to most of us as well as almost being on a different planet! I had a

:18:24. > :18:27.conversation about Kieran Read last week and we were basically saying

:18:28. > :18:31.from three years ago, Kieran Read has upped the quantity and quality

:18:32. > :18:34.of his training drastically will stop he has nearly doubled the

:18:35. > :18:38.amount of training, he has changed body shape, he was a bigger player

:18:39. > :18:45.three years ago, he has become slick, he is turning up in the back

:18:46. > :18:49.line, he is giving try scoring passes and scoring tries. Clive, you

:18:50. > :18:55.are one of the greats supporters of stats. In the Manchester All Blacks

:18:56. > :18:58.-- Bina Brock tackles that the All Blacks have made is almost double

:18:59. > :19:01.what their opponents have done. The matter possession they have had is

:19:02. > :19:07.almost a half of what their opponents have had and yet they win.

:19:08. > :19:13.How does it happen? The key things is territory. They have only 40%

:19:14. > :19:14.compared with France, huge model tackles but they have such firepower

:19:15. > :19:23.outside. And look at the England statistics.

:19:24. > :19:26.A small amount of all but it is the amount of firepower. They just know

:19:27. > :19:30.if they get the ball, they have got amazing players and against those

:19:31. > :19:36.statistics, they made five clear line breaks and England made none.

:19:37. > :19:40.They have got players that can break through really great chances. This

:19:41. > :19:43.will be a tough afternoon. It will come down to patients and

:19:44. > :19:48.decision-making. They make the right decision all the time. They kicked a

:19:49. > :19:53.huge amount of all but they don't kick it away, they kick it for

:19:54. > :19:57.territory. When they get the chance, if there is a hole in the armour,

:19:58. > :19:58.they will take it nearly every time. There is the reception for the Irish

:19:59. > :20:08.team. I think it is said to say that was

:20:09. > :20:23.quite loud! BANGING AND CHEERING. A few words about tactics because

:20:24. > :20:29.the preamble at internationals goes on longer than in other places. We

:20:30. > :20:35.have still got time to talk. Everybody has their opinion about a

:20:36. > :20:39.match like this, and how you go out and approach playing the All Blacks.

:20:40. > :20:43.One of the papers this morning said that in the first ten minutes the

:20:44. > :20:46.first thing to unsettle them was doing something they would not

:20:47. > :20:51.expect, whether it was during an unusual line-out or doing some

:20:52. > :20:55.ludicrous movement from the backs just to make them think that they

:20:56. > :21:02.were not expecting it. I don't want to get caught up in gimmicks.

:21:03. > :21:08.Bearing in mind we have never beaten New Zealand so it is hard to have

:21:09. > :21:11.any experience on that front but you have to meet them with a full level

:21:12. > :21:19.of intensity. Without it, they can tear you a sand. This New Zealand

:21:20. > :21:24.team will score tries, at least for five so you need a game plan. You

:21:25. > :21:27.have to score tries. You will not have a low scoring game so you need

:21:28. > :21:32.to work out how you can score tries against them. England scored one

:21:33. > :21:36.through a driving line-out and I think there is real opportunity and

:21:37. > :21:50.Ireland have got a chance, they have got to have a game plan though.

:21:51. > :21:56.There is the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, accompanied by

:21:57. > :22:00.Pat Fitzgerald who will be introduced to all the players. Let's

:22:01. > :22:12.have a quick word with our wise owls in the commentary box. We can

:22:13. > :22:21.see... What can we see? Hello. Can anybody hear me? Brian, you beat the

:22:22. > :22:30.All Blacks, how did you do it? You have to make the intensity matched

:22:31. > :22:35.theirs. It is almost not worth saying but England last week made as

:22:36. > :22:40.many carries over the gain-line as anyone has done against the All

:22:41. > :22:42.Blacks and still they ended up scoring three tries. And if you

:22:43. > :22:51.allow that to happen, then you will be on the wrong end of the result.

:22:52. > :22:55.It is very simple as a name but very difficult to achieve. The All Blacks

:22:56. > :22:59.are big but the president of Ireland is not that tall, which may

:23:00. > :23:05.exaggerate the differential in height. How do you view this

:23:06. > :23:14.afternoon with a measure of trepidation or hope? The comment was

:23:15. > :23:20.needing the bit of luck and Michael was right, in terms of the

:23:21. > :23:25.intensity. If Ireland do not have the intensity and organisation in

:23:26. > :23:28.defence, they may lose out early. And they need to be ambitious and

:23:29. > :23:33.attack. The thing that impresses me most about this New Zealand team is

:23:34. > :23:36.their ability in the contact situation. They run with the ball

:23:37. > :23:39.because they are looking for the float and supporting players are

:23:40. > :23:43.confident that the off-load will come. We have seen that from Kieran

:23:44. > :23:49.Read and the likes of him. So they need to look into that and going to

:23:50. > :23:59.ground, may have got to go for floats today to break this All Black

:24:00. > :24:08.defence -- go for off-loads today. We will not know how fit the players

:24:09. > :24:13.are until we kick off. They have held out for the time being, we saw

:24:14. > :24:19.them doing fitness tests and it is a big gamble. Clive, thought several?

:24:20. > :24:25.What a wonderful day for rugby first of all. I hope Ireland go out and

:24:26. > :24:30.surprise Ireland with the way they play and instead of going for goals,

:24:31. > :24:34.go for scrums, try to score tries, go for the attack and try to

:24:35. > :24:37.outscore them. If this is going to be a day of Irish sporting history

:24:38. > :24:41.when Ireland beat the All Blacks for the first time, Eddie Butler will

:24:42. > :27:23.describe it after the anthems. # Sinne Fianna Fail.

:27:24. > :27:29.# A ta faoi gheall ag Eirinn. # Buion dar slua.

:27:30. > :27:36.# Thar toinn do rainig chughainn. # Faoi mhoid bheith soar.

:27:37. > :28:40.# Sean tir ar sinsear feasta. Well, the crowd have responded and

:28:41. > :28:43.Joe Schmidt has not responded to the calls for changes, it is the same

:28:44. > :28:49.Irish pack but a different temperature has been ordered. And

:28:50. > :28:52.things have got considerably more heated already here at the Aviva

:28:53. > :29:03.Stadium behind the scrum. Gordon D'Arcy back into the midfield, the

:29:04. > :29:09.Kearney brothers will stop the formidable All Blacks, Luke Romano

:29:10. > :29:13.is out, Richie McCaw will captain from the back row and behind the

:29:14. > :29:16.scrum. There is so much talent there, just the smallest chance and

:29:17. > :29:35.they will be away with it. Ka mate Ka mate.

:29:36. > :29:38.Ka ora Ka ora. Ka mate Ka mate.

:29:39. > :29:43.Ka ora Ka ora. Tenei Te Tangata Puhuruhuru.

:29:44. > :29:50.Nana i tiki mai whakawhiti te ra. Upane Upane.

:29:51. > :29:57.Upane Kaupane. Whiti te ra.

:29:58. > :30:08.The All Blacks have their own way of raising their core temperature. Can

:30:09. > :30:13.he be the All Blacks for the first time? Can Ireland for the first time

:30:14. > :30:19.ever beat the All Blacks? 26 losses, one draw and this team, played 13

:30:20. > :30:25.and they have won all of them this year. Good afternoon, Philip

:30:26. > :30:32.Matthews. Looking at those Irish faces, I can see a lot of emotion in

:30:33. > :30:35.this Irish side, there is an awful lot of emotion there so they will be

:30:36. > :30:44.no shortage of passion. Can you feel the heat Ryan? Yes, and Ireland have

:30:45. > :30:47.more starting caps so they have the experience on the field. Whether

:30:48. > :30:51.that translates to performance needed remains to be seen but let's

:30:52. > :31:06.look forward at least to a cracking test match. Today's referee, Nigel

:31:07. > :31:12.Owens of Wales. Aaron crude and wears the number ten shirt. There

:31:13. > :31:16.was a time when life without Dan Carter was deemed impossible for the

:31:17. > :31:22.All Blacks. Not now. -- Aaron Cruden.

:31:23. > :32:18.Tommy Bogart 's Ireland under way. -- Tommy Bowe gets Ireland under

:32:19. > :32:37.A penalty goes Ireland's way. A little bit of

:32:38. > :32:55.the crowd up. Ireland showing intent from the off. Ireland are

:32:56. > :32:55.the crowd up. Ireland showing intent pace but on the gain-line.

:32:56. > :34:10.It is a knock-on. We will have a scrummage. They need to be closer to

:34:11. > :34:20.the gain-line to make sure they get over quicker. O Connell fair. They

:34:21. > :34:24.are fine margins. That was just slightly too far outside the scrum

:34:25. > :34:38.half. Last week against Australia, the

:34:39. > :34:44.Irish scrum was not co-ordinated. They need to pay a lot more respect

:34:45. > :35:28.to the New Zealand scrum if they are going to get parity.

:35:29. > :35:35.Is Conor Merrydown? What a start it would be for Ireland. -- is Conor

:35:36. > :35:51.Murray down? Jerome Garces... He advises Nigel

:35:52. > :36:02.Owens, but we are going upstairs. Graham Hughes is the television

:36:03. > :36:13.match official. Asking yes or no. That is down. That is a try. A

:36:14. > :36:19.fantastic start by Garland. -- Ireland. Philip, as a neutral what

:36:20. > :36:24.did you say? There is a hit of a knock-on there. I think that might

:36:25. > :36:30.have been knocked on. I think the wall has come out of Conor Murray's

:36:31. > :36:41.grasp. It has hit the ground and then he has got the pressure. Well,

:36:42. > :36:43.they needed that one. Ireland ready got themselves on the front foot!

:36:44. > :36:56.Role reversal. The decision that mattered, Graham

:36:57. > :37:28.Hughes. The try is awarded. And here is Johnny Sexton.

:37:29. > :37:41.7-0 in front, Ireland. You could not state any debtor. It was well

:37:42. > :37:52.worked. -- you could not start any better. The backwards step. Smith

:37:53. > :38:21.was driven backwards in the tackle. That keeps the momentum going.

:38:22. > :38:29.They are so good at turning the half chance into a try, that Ireland

:38:30. > :38:34.might have some relief at only a line-out. Having not taken the

:38:35. > :38:38.restart, Ireland will be thankful that the All Blacks did not finish

:38:39. > :38:42.that off, and they have an opportunity for a very crucial throw

:38:43. > :38:45.and catch here, but what they really cannot afford to do is give points

:38:46. > :39:22.away immediately after taking a 7-point lead.

:39:23. > :39:29.Dave Kearney does well to get that ball into touch. The idea was nice

:39:30. > :39:35.that the execution was not really there. New Zealand had their numbers

:39:36. > :39:40.out. There was not much out. The game, New Zealand making the wake

:39:41. > :39:45.through, through to that wonderful little pass from the tackle from

:39:46. > :41:11.Aaron Cruden. Ireland will have to be wise to that.

:41:12. > :41:17.Ireland are back in New Zealand territory. There was a huge roar

:41:18. > :41:25.from the crowd but what they should be roaring at was the work done in

:41:26. > :41:28.and around this tackle. Mark Nanook brought -- Ma'a Nonu brought three

:41:29. > :41:39.layers in. Ireland collect themselves before

:41:40. > :42:41.this line-out. They have done it! Try for the

:42:42. > :42:48.Ulster hooker! What a start! They have a huge overlap going left. They

:42:49. > :42:52.are now getting the ball away from the contact area quickly, and this

:42:53. > :42:58.New Zealand defence is on the back foot. It is not beating the Irish

:42:59. > :43:03.defence at all. That move there is the unexpected that people were

:43:04. > :43:09.talking about. Wraparound, Luke from prop to hooker. And what has been

:43:10. > :43:13.impressive about the Ireland effort is that when they have got behind

:43:14. > :43:17.the gain-line, they have managed to get quick ball. It has not been so

:43:18. > :43:23.down. The All Blacks have not been able to reorganise properly, and

:43:24. > :43:28.Ireland have taken advantage. They have to keep up this level of

:43:29. > :44:21.intensity. They cannot sit back and stop taking these risks.

:44:22. > :44:30.Straight at the giant glass wall of the Aviva Stadium. Ireland lead

:44:31. > :44:35.14-0, two converted tries. New Zealand have been rocked by the

:44:36. > :45:04.ferocity and the skill level that this Irish have shown.

:45:05. > :46:21.Ben Smith, candidate for world player of the year. They have come

:46:22. > :46:25.away with it if again, did that go forward? Play on, says the referee.

:46:26. > :46:27.Ireland have stolen the ball again in their 22 and away they come

:46:28. > :46:54.through Gordon D'Arcy. One thing was interesting, the All

:46:55. > :46:59.Blacks had extra numbers on the left when they moved there, it wasn't

:47:00. > :47:05.quite that subsequent to this, the rush defence it was not that Brian

:47:06. > :47:08.O'Driscoll was in front and that closed off the option and forced New

:47:09. > :47:16.Zealand back inside whereupon the tackle was made and O'Driscoll did

:47:17. > :47:24.more defensive work. Nigel Owens stops play Rory Best is having

:47:25. > :47:30.attention. Here he is, the hooker, try scorer. That looks like a sad

:47:31. > :47:44.shake of the head. That looks... The body language says

:47:45. > :47:52.it all. I don't think you will be continuing this afternoon. Sean

:47:53. > :47:57.Cronin already poised to come on. While, while he was on, what a

:47:58. > :48:06.quarter of allowable Rory Best. How sad it is to see him go. The Irish

:48:07. > :48:10.must hope that that does not store their momentum because the line-out

:48:11. > :48:19.was working well, he may the obvious contributions in the loose but it is

:48:20. > :48:22.right that this phase, the set phases which are crucial. This is

:48:23. > :48:50.the new man, Sean Cronin. He is offside but not pulled.

:48:51. > :48:56.Penalty advantage to Ireland. Ireland can do no wrong at the

:48:57. > :49:01.moment. It is not just tactical discipline which they are showing

:49:02. > :49:04.and driving them properly, it is the intent and ambition. They are saying

:49:05. > :49:08.that they don't care that they have got the reputation they have, they

:49:09. > :49:14.are saying that they will do it and do it successfully. White back row

:49:15. > :49:17.not only coming from the side, it was the back of the side with Richie

:49:18. > :49:30.McCaw. That is something that Nigel Owens had to think. Penalties. To

:49:31. > :50:23.come. A great penalty, coming in the back of the side.

:50:24. > :50:33.Away comes Rob Kearney! They are not going to catch him! Rob Kearney for

:50:34. > :50:40.Ireland, his brother Dave is arriving... What a celebration! What

:50:41. > :50:45.a game by the Irishman! Not in your wildest, Guinness-fuelled fantasies

:50:46. > :50:52.could you have predicted this! And that came from a great tackle from

:50:53. > :51:02.Sean O'Brien when he managed to get hold of Aaron Smith. I was going to

:51:03. > :51:07.say at 14-0, the All Blacks would still not be rattled but I think

:51:08. > :51:12.they are now. New Zealand could have put everything into attack there.

:51:13. > :51:17.And that the Irish bench. They are absolutely overjoyed. And now

:51:18. > :51:21.Ireland have laid a foundation on which they will be very disappointed

:51:22. > :51:31.if they allow New Zealand back into this game. They should be. In this

:51:32. > :51:33.position, this is a winning position. You should be able to

:51:34. > :51:41.defend from this. Come back to this, make sure that if you do concede

:51:42. > :51:43.points and they are absolutely earned -- make sure they are

:51:44. > :51:54.absolutely earned by the other side. It is impossible to describe the

:51:55. > :51:56.difference between the feeling at the Beaver Stadium last time out

:51:57. > :51:59.against Australia and what is happening right here -- at the Aviva

:52:00. > :52:29.Stadium. The first blip, it comes off the

:52:30. > :52:40.post, unconverted. Ireland lead 19-0. It may be impossible...

:52:41. > :52:46.Unusual way of playing the ball, it may be impossible to describe the

:52:47. > :52:51.difference but it is possible to split. The way Ireland are playing

:52:52. > :53:00.today compared with the Australian game is several factors higher.

:53:01. > :54:18.The ball is out. Play has to stop. As it turned out for him, it was a

:54:19. > :54:22.good job it was not get in because he was not in a position... Well, if

:54:23. > :54:27.that has gone his way and it wasn't out, they would be the beneficiaries

:54:28. > :55:34.because he played himself into trouble.

:55:35. > :55:44.The All Blacks are keeping the ball alive and creeping closer and a

:55:45. > :55:49.knock an, Ireland have the scrum and listen to the raw!

:55:50. > :55:57.Hugely impressed with him, he is looking for the off-load all the

:55:58. > :56:01.time and Ireland are stretch that they are doing it and taking that

:56:02. > :56:09.intensity and they really need to keep that intensity going. Stopping

:56:10. > :56:14.the off-load and stopping the All Black attack in its tracks. What

:56:15. > :56:18.they did is they trusted in the defence, very easy when you are

:56:19. > :56:23.under pressure to keep your foot into long, keep your hand on the

:56:24. > :56:27.ball and get supported. What they did, especially Paul O'Connell

:56:28. > :56:38.twice, just hands on long enough to slow the ball down, and that is it.

:56:39. > :56:43.Cian Healy, sleight of hand by Aaron Cruden.

:56:44. > :56:55.Lovely piece of dexterity coming up. Yesterday at Wembley, similar

:56:56. > :56:58.one in the rugby league semifinal resulted in a try. New Zealand are

:56:59. > :57:06.involved in a couple of contests this weekend, the mighty All

:57:07. > :57:08.Blacks, 13 victories behind them this year are trailing at the Aviva

:57:09. > :57:48.Stadium. The ball hit the corner flag and it

:57:49. > :57:56.would be Ireland's ball. 22, drop out, not a line out. Everything at

:57:57. > :58:06.the moment is going Ireland's way. And they are forcing things. It is

:58:07. > :59:38.thrilling, nail-biting stuff at only 20 minutes gone already.

:59:39. > :59:48.It will be a try for Julian Savea. The All Blacks are back in this

:59:49. > :59:53.game. It was on from the moment that the Irish backs came up and stood

:59:54. > :59:59.static, but having said that it was very intelligent played to see where

:00:00. > :00:04.the gap was for the kick. This has been coming for a while now. Trying

:00:05. > :00:09.to snap up the attack and closing the ball carrier down midfield but

:00:10. > :00:16.that space and the whip on this All Blacks side in the attack. -- the

:00:17. > :00:20.width. The All Blacks have been numbers and that kick in behind,

:00:21. > :00:27.plenty of space behind and Julian Savea knew what was coming. It is a

:00:28. > :00:31.smart game so far. I mentioned earlier on the way that Brian

:00:32. > :00:36.O'Driscoll had come up and forced the New Zealand back inside and this

:00:37. > :00:41.time they sold it. Aaron Cruden with his right foot as two points that it

:00:42. > :00:48.was the kick through with his left boot that was inch perfect. Not many

:00:49. > :01:00.people may link this. Ireland won the restart 22, from their New

:01:01. > :01:04.Zealand work the position where they eventually scored. Ireland cannot

:01:05. > :01:06.afford to do that. They have to be behind all get men under the ball so

:01:07. > :02:42.they don't have space. And overlap to the right. Paul

:02:43. > :02:50.O'Connell might have off-loaded them, but that ball needed to go

:02:51. > :02:56.right instead of left there, that they still had a good attacking

:02:57. > :03:05.position. Ireland just collect their thoughts. What they should plan to

:03:06. > :03:08.do from here is to come away with some form of score, whether a drop

:03:09. > :05:18.goal, a penalty or whatever. Green ball. That is the important

:05:19. > :05:25.thing. Also important that Ireland did not panic, did not try to force

:05:26. > :05:31.a pass. But it is followed by a knock-on. The same again here. You

:05:32. > :05:38.need to go through the phases. Conor Murray did well there not to panic.

:05:39. > :05:47.The ball coming probably a little early for him. O'Driscoll again,

:05:48. > :05:51.going just behind the gain-line. There were two crucial interventions

:05:52. > :05:58.there, into breakdowns, where ostensibly Ireland did not have the

:05:59. > :06:11.numbers in there. REFEREE: Keep it up, please.

:06:12. > :06:30.Scrummage. Two in the middle, not of it.

:06:31. > :07:30.Scrummage. Two in the middle, not of it.

:07:31. > :07:35.Ireland want to wheel from that position? In fact, they did not and

:07:36. > :07:36.they got the benefit... I thought it was a high tackle in midfield

:07:37. > :07:49.anyway. Today the individual is different,

:07:50. > :07:56.the collective performance is different. Particularly with the

:07:57. > :08:37.scrummage. They seem to be doing it as one today.

:08:38. > :08:37.Straight and true this time. as one today.

:08:38. > :08:53.Straight and true this time. Jonathan Sexton. Ireland are

:08:54. > :08:53.Straight and true this time. delighted. There is time to go but

:08:54. > :10:01.Ireland lead 22-7. You REFEREE: You're moving across within

:10:02. > :10:11.the ten. The penalty is here. Ten on, scrum is over there. The offer

:10:12. > :10:20.penalty or scrum. The debate going on.

:10:21. > :10:38.That was for obstruction of Aaron Cruden, although we didn't really

:10:39. > :10:49.see that. We are going back for the penalty now.

:10:50. > :11:25.I told him the wrong place. It was offside. It was not obstruction.

:11:26. > :11:47.Ireland could-in, and a another huge roar goes up. -- put in. The work

:11:48. > :11:53.great of the ball -- the workrate off the all for this Ireland team is

:11:54. > :12:04.a quantum different from what it was last week. As a back, when you see

:12:05. > :12:33.the forwards doing the bits in the scrum, that gives you a lift.

:12:34. > :12:44.to a close. Intelligent play. Realistic play. Well executed.

:12:45. > :12:51.Ireland comfortable on their own ball. Do you think the Franks

:12:52. > :13:02.Brothers might be coming in? Mustard back you might do but the problem

:13:03. > :13:03.for the orb racks -- All Blacks is they are losing the battle on the

:13:04. > :15:08.heat. Ireland want to get this off the

:15:09. > :15:42.field now. This is the Aviva Stadium saying

:15:43. > :15:46.what they think about an extraordinary first half.

:15:47. > :16:03.Half-time, the interval. Ireland, 22. New Zealand, seven. Very little

:16:04. > :16:09.to say about the Irish performance other than everything has been out

:16:10. > :16:12.of the cup draw. They must be exhilarated, the important thing is

:16:13. > :16:16.to be level-headed, remain disciplined. They will be times when

:16:17. > :16:22.New Zealand comeback but that has been tremendous.

:16:23. > :16:29.JOHN INVERDALE: We spoke about history before the match began and

:16:30. > :16:34.certainly after these 40 minutes, it is there, tantalisingly within

:16:35. > :16:38.reach. A great try by Conor Murray to start off with, his second

:16:39. > :16:42.international try, he scored them both against the All Blacks, did he

:16:43. > :16:46.not it forward? It does not matter. Rory Best's was given but then he

:16:47. > :16:53.went off injured. And then a third try when Rob Kearney intercepted the

:16:54. > :16:57.ball and run 80 metres will stop you thought the All Blacks would have to

:16:58. > :17:04.come back at 19-0 and there is Julian Savea's try. But the big kick

:17:05. > :17:05.from Jonny Sexton meaning that it stands at 22-7 at half-time and I

:17:06. > :17:07.have to say if from Jonny Sexton meaning that it

:17:08. > :17:12.stands at 22-7 at half-time you look at all the statistics there, Ireland

:17:13. > :17:18.conceding just one penalty in the entire half. A supreme optimist

:17:19. > :17:22.sitting on my left said that after 19 minutes, Ireland are leading by

:17:23. > :17:33.19 points, I wonder if we can score 80. It is worth having some level of

:17:34. > :17:39.humour. Nobody expects and nobody expected. We wanted a level of high

:17:40. > :17:43.intensity and this week they came up with pure aggression and great

:17:44. > :17:47.control and patients. This is why we love sport, we have been pumping the

:17:48. > :17:54.air. Just three tries, Rob Kearney coming off the bench, I have never

:17:55. > :18:00.seen people so pumped. They have gone Route one but they have played

:18:01. > :18:02.quicker than New Zealand. And to score three tries against this team

:18:03. > :18:06.in the first half is brilliant. We have been tried to look in the

:18:07. > :18:11.record books and we just do not know at the moment but

:18:12. > :18:12.record books and we just do not know Zealand were down 19 points in

:18:13. > :18:19.international. It was important for Ireland to get ahead and

:18:20. > :18:23.international. It was important for that in spades but the first try was

:18:24. > :18:28.key. It was. A whole load of forward runners going in. They keep their

:18:29. > :18:34.depth and when he runs in to get over it, he burst in over the

:18:35. > :18:37.gain-line and Conor Murray snuck in around the back. He bangs the ball

:18:38. > :18:41.down and it was important for Ireland that they do attack. For too

:18:42. > :18:46.long this year, they have been running

:18:47. > :18:49.long this year, they have been was about pace and aggression and

:18:50. > :18:55.depth and suddenly, in Conor Murray goes. That, was it a try? I

:18:56. > :18:58.depth and suddenly, in Conor Murray say it was a knock-on but the

:18:59. > :19:05.referee said was a try so I will take his interpretation. Daylight on

:19:06. > :19:12.the ball. It probably was not a try. It was. And Rory Best's was

:19:13. > :19:19.definitely. Definitely. It came about again from forwards having a

:19:20. > :19:21.go, Jamie Heaslip try to find a spot particular that what happens with

:19:22. > :19:29.the defensive lines of the All Blacks, that gap, there is nobody

:19:30. > :19:34.tucking in behind. And Sean O'Brien goes through a five metre gap. There

:19:35. > :19:40.was a flood of Irish players coming in afterwards which has not happened

:19:41. > :19:44.for a while. Of rugby teams go left or right but you can go Route one

:19:45. > :19:48.through the middle. And if the All Blacks do not put the numbers in,

:19:49. > :19:59.this is where the gap happens. This is a great finish but it all came

:20:00. > :20:08.from this. The New Zealand, if they do not put the numbers and you can

:20:09. > :20:11.go at it Route one. In that half, it was Ireland with the right decision.

:20:12. > :20:19.Rory Best took a step right in and scored a great try. And five minutes

:20:20. > :20:25.later he broke his arm. He is a much for the cause in this. We were

:20:26. > :20:29.musing on effectively, two goals down, the All Blacks will not be

:20:30. > :20:41.rattled but when a third try comes, even for the All Blacks, doubts must

:20:42. > :20:44.creep in, surely? Be hit goes in at just the atmosphere here is

:20:45. > :20:49.fantastic. If Ireland can score five tries, they can win this game. They

:20:50. > :20:55.have got three already. They need to keep believing. Defence is fantastic

:20:56. > :21:02.stop Kieran Read tracking back, Kearney against him, a great moment

:21:03. > :21:06.for Rob here. The pace, they are taking the New Zealand team on Route

:21:07. > :21:11.one and that is causing New Zealand to panic. Route one is getting the

:21:12. > :21:16.ball and going in a straight line for people who do not understand?

:21:17. > :21:21.Yes, people often go left all right but you can go Route one. There is

:21:22. > :21:33.nothing worse than a team being broken through the middle of your

:21:34. > :21:36.ruck. Great space. Defence can defend from a standing start. You

:21:37. > :21:41.can still make the tackle if you have depth. This team will make the

:21:42. > :21:45.tackle but you get over the gain-line, the ball carrier get

:21:46. > :21:47.sober and suddenly there is a flood of forwards running onto it and that

:21:48. > :21:51.is what Ireland have done and they have not done that for a while. They

:21:52. > :21:58.did the exact opposite last week. The only certainty was not if New

:21:59. > :22:04.Zealand would come back but when. A beautiful kick created this. Aaron

:22:05. > :22:08.Cruden gets the ball there, beautiful recognition of space. The

:22:09. > :22:14.huge area of the field but it is the deftness of the kick from his left

:22:15. > :22:18.leg which bounced perfectly. Julian Savea has got a great strike rate.

:22:19. > :22:25.That is just pure unadulterated quality. We are talking about the

:22:26. > :22:28.great passing game of the New Zealand team, but they are also a

:22:29. > :22:33.great kicking team and this is natural. They are coaching and

:22:34. > :22:39.playing for this, that was as good skill as you can see. They kicked to

:22:40. > :22:43.score and you kick into space, that was fantastic. Those are the tries

:22:44. > :22:45.we have had but so many other aspects that are fascinating to

:22:46. > :22:51.watch and enthralling and exhilarating. Ireland's porosity

:22:52. > :23:04.from start to finish. Can they keep this up -- Ireland's ferocity. Paul

:23:05. > :23:08.O'Connell with a level of aggression. We spoke last week over

:23:09. > :23:15.the lack of intensity and I was happy on about that. This week, it

:23:16. > :23:23.is pure, 100% but they never give up, crawl if you have to. Brian

:23:24. > :23:29.O'Driscoll did great because he was not held. There is great thinking

:23:30. > :23:31.behind all that. You talk a lot about winning collisions at the top

:23:32. > :23:37.level and you saw Ireland win every collision. They really have won them

:23:38. > :23:41.and it gets you going forward. If they can keep winning the

:23:42. > :23:46.collisions, they could be in with a massive upset. For people like

:23:47. > :23:50.O'Driscoll, this is the last throw of the dice to beat the All Blacks.

:23:51. > :23:59.Somewhere some blandly that might be making him think the Mac

:24:00. > :24:04.subliminally -- subliminally. I cannot even say that! I would say it

:24:05. > :24:08.was front and centre, this is a drizzle's last go, that he wants to

:24:09. > :24:11.stay. An awful lot of players owe him something in Ireland. In many

:24:12. > :24:23.ways he has been the leading light for over ten years. Another aspect,

:24:24. > :24:27.the restarts. Kicking it ten yards beyond the 22, it is almost

:24:28. > :24:30.mandatory but today, they have been competitive and a team that I

:24:31. > :24:36.kicking giving their own players to get the ball back. They say more

:24:37. > :24:39.about the mindset of the team than most. New Zealand kick off and they

:24:40. > :24:46.win the ball, it is so easy and such a negative thing to kick the ball

:24:47. > :24:50.down field. A winning team will always try to get the ball back.

:24:51. > :24:53.That is why New Zealand are such a great team but Ireland are doing the

:24:54. > :24:57.same thing. Most teams kick long and they have gone for the ball and they

:24:58. > :25:04.get the restart and they win it. It sets the tone of the game. It means

:25:05. > :25:08.the team wants to play. Defensively you can kick the ball downfield but

:25:09. > :25:11.the restart such a big heart of the game. That is the best 40 minutes of

:25:12. > :25:14.all the international rugby matches so far but we have one more weekend

:25:15. > :25:35.and that is next Saturday in Cardiff.

:25:36. > :25:41.MUSIC: "Australia" by Manic Street Preachers.

:25:42. > :25:50.And mention of Australia, ten years ago today, you were in Australia, a

:25:51. > :25:54.nursing a hangover. I am sure you are exhausted about talking about it

:25:55. > :25:57.because it seems like the ten year celebrations have been going on in

:25:58. > :26:04.order Labour on a day like today when people have been mentioning to

:26:05. > :26:08.you -- going on about it all day. You look back on a great period of

:26:09. > :26:14.your life for the whole team. It was quite special and it just seems a

:26:15. > :26:20.long time ago but coming here today, it just shows rugby union, that was

:26:21. > :26:25.a pretty special moment, we came out the airport and the thousands of

:26:26. > :26:31.people in the airport. Great memories but we have all moved on.

:26:32. > :26:35.Ten years, we have got to put this to bed now and focus on the game

:26:36. > :26:39.which is far more important. Until the 25th anniversary! The All Blacks

:26:40. > :26:45.are out on the pitch, Ireland are receiving. Some serious

:26:46. > :26:52.conversations to be had in the Irish dressing room. I suspect, same

:26:53. > :26:56.again? Absolutely. Their mindset of running inside their own 22 and

:26:57. > :27:00.behind their own goal-line, doing everything they possibly can to

:27:01. > :27:03.score. New Zealand will score, we have no doubt about that. So Ireland

:27:04. > :27:09.still need to score and plenty of them. Wouldn't want to be negative

:27:10. > :27:13.but would you be saying as a coach, that New Zealand might score three

:27:14. > :27:18.converted tries and therefore we have still got to score another ten?

:27:19. > :27:24.The guys will be saying we have got a 40 minute game now, we have got to

:27:25. > :27:30.win the second half. 0-0, win the second half. Islands need to score

:27:31. > :27:34.two Micro -- Ireland need to score two more tries to win this. Ireland

:27:35. > :27:38.emerge onto the pitch ear and Kieran Read, the All Black's number eight

:27:39. > :27:42.is as they know exactly what the task in hand is for this next 40

:27:43. > :27:46.minutes. If they do not play to their potential, he fears the All

:27:47. > :27:50.Blacks will simply get embarrassed, that is the word he used.

:27:51. > :27:54.JOHN INVERDALE: I read one paragraph in an Irish newspaper and I

:27:55. > :27:58.thought, I wonder, I wonder and it said the will be the supreme

:27:59. > :28:01.motivation for the Irish today and out of the comes a kind of mania.

:28:02. > :28:07.Ireland will be manic today against the All Blacks, they are in a corner

:28:08. > :28:10.and they have no other choice. Safe to say that if Ireland are manic for

:28:11. > :28:14.the next 40 minutes, this might be one of the great days in the whole

:28:15. > :28:16.of Irish sporting history but there is a long, long, long, long way to

:28:17. > :28:25.go. Back to Eddie. COMMENTATOR: Difficult conversation

:28:26. > :28:33.to have in the Irish dressing room. They won't have prepared for such a

:28:34. > :28:41.lead. But they were so intelligent as well as intense. Can they keep it

:28:42. > :28:46.going? A big question, can they keep it going? And what will we see from

:28:47. > :28:47.the All Blacks? Because they need to bring the level of intensity that

:28:48. > :30:00.Ireland have. That was a little scalp for short of

:30:01. > :30:09.Brian. Getting in on an icon for him. It has two B said Jamie Heaslip

:30:10. > :30:13.has probably raised his game. The wonderful motivating thing as an

:30:14. > :30:21.individual, playing the best player in your position. So far, certainly

:30:22. > :30:49.in that first half, Jamie Heaslip and Sean O'Brien have responded.

:30:50. > :31:03.We are going to have a rake here. -- break. There is a breakdown in

:31:04. > :31:04.communication. Nidal, we can hear you. You just cannot hear each

:31:05. > :31:17.other. That was the sort of trick play that

:31:18. > :31:26.we got in the first half that resulted in the best run. It has

:31:27. > :31:39.been thrown in just to make the All Blacks think. That is illustrative

:31:40. > :31:49.of how an infield. -- how Ireland feel. Changes in the All Black

:31:50. > :32:06.ranks. Hooker calls comes an instead of four. That might be a farewell

:32:07. > :32:10.from Andrew Hore. First he has to do his job here, because this is an

:32:11. > :32:17.area which has not gone well for New Zealand. All about concentration.

:32:18. > :32:58.Whether or not you are committed to it.

:32:59. > :33:10.And Vantage being played. Knock-on by New Zealand. Ireland have the

:33:11. > :33:16.put-in. It happened and the ball was about but there was an Irish player

:33:17. > :33:19.who fired into that breakdown, that pushed the preceding all-black just

:33:20. > :33:25.a couple of inches back, and that delayed the pass. Whether that has

:33:26. > :33:31.multiplied as you pass it along behind... The Irish defence was then

:33:32. > :33:36.about two yards further up. Really small things are going well for

:33:37. > :33:40.Ireland. They are doing the things that really count. Sean Cronin

:33:41. > :33:48.replacement against Dane Coles Hosmer replacement. -- Dane Coles'

:33:49. > :34:13.replacement. A free kick to New Zealand. Taken by

:34:14. > :34:35.keirin read. Just little bits of lack of

:34:36. > :34:46.discipline creeping in. New Zealand opting for a scrummage

:34:47. > :35:03.from the free kick. Ireland must not did them things,

:35:04. > :35:30.must not give them things by arguing back on the decisions.

:35:31. > :35:35.REFEREE: Is you do not listen, you do not know what is going to happen.

:35:36. > :35:55.You cannot be much clearer, can you? That little switch direction from

:35:56. > :35:58.the scrum-half, found Aaron Cruden on the loop. Conor Murray did well

:35:59. > :36:42.to make the tackle. Peter O'Mahony puts a monster boot

:36:43. > :37:09.on it. It has gone loose, Cian Healy tears

:37:10. > :37:13.forward. A knock-on advantage to New Zealand. Israel Dagg is there new

:37:14. > :37:25.hooker, for New Zealand. Penalty advantage now. Penalty

:37:26. > :37:41.given. We are in that crucial first ten of

:37:42. > :37:48.this second-half. Nobody really getting an edge here. New Zealand

:37:49. > :37:50.threatening to get themselves back into this game, Ireland need to get

:37:51. > :38:01.out of their half. Kieran Read and Aaron Cruden discuss

:38:02. > :38:15.tactics. Dane Coles well throw in, New

:38:16. > :38:26.Zealand have reduced the numbers, just four in the line-out.

:38:27. > :38:49.REFEREE: Scrum down, turnover ball. New Zealand have the put-in. It was

:38:50. > :39:00.a poor throw from Dane Coles. He got in there well, Devin Toner,

:39:01. > :39:04.he is tall, that is why he is there, he has improved his general

:39:05. > :39:10.play and ball carrying. And that is why Ireland are now making full

:39:11. > :39:44.advantage of that. The height it gives him.

:39:45. > :39:55.REFEREE: I want to check if that touched. We are going upstairs

:39:56. > :40:01.again. I genuinely think not many people knew whether or not that had

:40:02. > :40:05.gone down. REFEREE: I just want to check there was a hand underneath

:40:06. > :40:23.the wall as it went to the line. Thank you.

:40:24. > :40:44.He has got to see the ground. Cannot see it from there. Nor there. There

:40:45. > :40:54.is a hand under that. And it is short, anyway.

:40:55. > :41:08.REFEREE: Showed me that other angle again, please. OK, can I tell you

:41:09. > :41:14.what I have seen? Unless you tell me any different, from a different

:41:15. > :41:23.angle, it looks to me as though the ball is held up with an arm

:41:24. > :41:27.underneath. I am with you on that. If Nigel Owens is going to watch it

:41:28. > :41:34.on the screen and make his own mind up, why do you need the TV match

:41:35. > :41:38.official? They got there in the end. I am not saying there is anything

:41:39. > :41:50.wrong with it but if the referees can do that... Is that the moment?

:41:51. > :41:55.This ten minute period is coming to an end. We are nearly up to 50

:41:56. > :42:06.minutes and Ireland are still in the lead by 22-7. You cannot really see

:42:07. > :42:12.it but Savea is as close as he can get to this touchline. He has 20

:42:13. > :43:23.metres outside. Tommy Bowden goes into play scrum

:43:24. > :43:25.half. The heroic scrum half is New -- is buried. Penalty to New

:43:26. > :43:47.Zealand. Devin Toner. That is just dull. It is, but there

:43:48. > :43:55.was one in the first half that wasn't even and I do not see a huge

:43:56. > :43:58.amount of difference. They had done the brilliant work. They had waited

:43:59. > :44:05.for so long. That was about eight minutes. They had turned the ball

:44:06. > :44:11.and done all the hard work. The other thing is, he would have got it

:44:12. > :44:33.anyway. The upshot is that Aaron Cruden is going for goal.

:44:34. > :44:42.12 minutes into the second half and the gap closes. The first half was

:44:43. > :44:45.penalties conceded by Ireland. Unfortunately, Ireland are giving

:44:46. > :44:52.away penalties in the second half. They must stop that. Although if you

:44:53. > :45:01.had said at the beginning of that period, eight minutes will pass on

:45:02. > :45:07.the clock and we will only give three points away, you probably

:45:08. > :45:13.would have said it was a fair swap. We are waiting for Brian O'Driscoll

:45:14. > :45:19.to return from having attention there. Just going over the ten metre

:45:20. > :45:27.line. He will take some shifting of this field today, although it seems

:45:28. > :45:35.he is going off. Substitution for an edge.

:45:36. > :45:46.Brian O'Driscoll making the tackle. Brodie Retallick. Sean O'Brien with

:45:47. > :47:22.yet another tackle. Fabulous catch. What an important tackle that was

:47:23. > :47:35.from Peter O'Mahony. Penalty to New Zealand. Peter

:47:36. > :47:40.O'Mahony limps away. REFEREE: What did I ask you earlier

:47:41. > :47:48.clearly? I asked you quite clearly that there, down you go. Sean

:47:49. > :47:53.O'Brien was having the lecture! I was about to say just before that,

:47:54. > :47:58.before he hung on that he had done the right work must load the ball

:47:59. > :48:01.down, and then let go of the ball, the Irish defence had already

:48:02. > :48:07.managed to recoup because of his work, just that bit too far and

:48:08. > :48:14.whether you agree with it or not the referee tells you, you have got to

:48:15. > :48:19.stop. If I have to speak to him again, it may well be more than a

:48:20. > :48:27.penalty. The Amber alert, the yellow warning. This is a matter of

:48:28. > :48:31.subjective opinion. The way that Nigel Owens talks to players, the

:48:32. > :48:51.way he controls a game, he is top drawer. Very clear and concise.

:48:52. > :49:13.A miss by Aaron Cruden, Brian O'Driscoll from the touch-line.

:49:14. > :49:22.Replacement for Ireland. Kevin McLaughlin comes into the back row.

:49:23. > :49:35.What a game the number six as hard. Peter O'Mahony.

:49:36. > :50:21.Penalty advantage being played, penalty to Ireland. Relief floods

:50:22. > :50:29.the stands and the field. I tell you what Luke Fitzgerald did well there.

:50:30. > :50:36.Well, there we go. Here we have this. Ma'a Nonu goes down, people

:50:37. > :50:43.will be saying you have to let him of that you don't at all. You can

:50:44. > :50:55.get penalties like they did there. Good knowledge of the rules.

:50:56. > :51:01.Ireland RLE in this second-half but are in New Zealand territory --

:51:02. > :51:24.Ireland rarely. Rob Kearney still going! Ma'a Nonu

:51:25. > :52:27.comes across. New Zealand with the changes. Sonia,

:52:28. > :52:31.any news on Brian O'Driscoll? He is standing with his head in his hands,

:52:32. > :52:35.he has been ripping the tape off his wrists, he is very disgruntled but

:52:36. > :52:38.under the new pitch side concussion assessment, the match day Doctor has

:52:39. > :52:45.assessed him and has viewed that he has in fact exhibited signs of

:52:46. > :52:49.concussion so he will not be allowed to come back on and finish this

:52:50. > :52:52.game. Very unhappy, Brian O'Driscoll. Owen Franks is on for

:52:53. > :53:11.New Zealand. Ireland could have done with getting

:53:12. > :53:16.points out that visit but they have not stop paying, they are still

:53:17. > :53:20.trying to force a score. They need to keep doing this. If they go into

:53:21. > :53:25.their shells, they will bring this New Zealand side on to them but

:53:26. > :53:28.territory is vital for Ireland. Ben Franks comes on, we have a pair of

:53:29. > :53:31.brothers on the New Zealand side now as well. Ben Franks and Owen Franks

:53:32. > :54:23.and we also have Ryan Crotty. Rob Kearney sorts it out again. The

:54:24. > :54:28.ball is out of play, the crowd think it was taken in the air.

:54:29. > :54:39.REFEREE: You jumped and landed into him. Do you want to check are we

:54:40. > :54:47.happy to go? Time out. We will check. They are having a cheque.

:54:48. > :54:53.My first instinct is he caught it and landed into him so unless that

:54:54. > :54:55.Black has wilfully taken it in the air, we will carry on. Have a look

:54:56. > :55:03.for me please. No, that is in the air. The crowd

:55:04. > :55:15.read that one right. Penalty here, back you go. The

:55:16. > :55:29.decision is made. That is the reason he was very

:55:30. > :55:35.annoyed. It is because he was in the air. Nigel Owens reversing his

:55:36. > :55:41.original thoughts. On the presentation of proper evidence. And

:55:42. > :55:49.the important thing for Ireland is to get a penalty from this. We are

:55:50. > :55:55.into the last quarter of the game. Jonathan Sexton in no hurry to take

:55:56. > :56:03.this. Nor should he be. Don't be too ambitious. The touch safely found.

:56:04. > :56:10.Last Ireland will be looking at the clock ticking down, alongside that,

:56:11. > :56:14.New Zealand have got to score tries. There is a decent margin here

:56:15. > :57:06.providing they stay disciplined and controlled.

:57:07. > :57:15.Forget the statistics about New Zealand not having possession, they

:57:16. > :57:51.have the Lion 's share in this half.

:57:52. > :58:01.Here goes Franks again. I think he has got that down. Looks like the

:58:02. > :58:08.try will be awarded. REFEREE: The try is good. It is.

:58:09. > :58:12.Blood pouring from his eye but Owen Franks is the try scorer.

:58:13. > :58:20.A reward for New Zealand doing what Ireland did in the first half. Going

:58:21. > :58:29.through the phases, getting quick, and that is a try.

:58:30. > :58:40.His brother, Ben Franks, is over. That is what Ireland did not want to

:58:41. > :58:44.have, New Zealand with a score with 15 minutes left on the clock. They

:58:45. > :58:48.have just stopped playing a bit, Ireland. They have conceded

:58:49. > :58:51.territory and have not enabled to spend enough time in New Zealand's

:58:52. > :58:58.have and they are bringing New Zealand onto them a bit. They got

:58:59. > :59:00.the penalty but they are seeding territory and possession back to New

:59:01. > :59:16.Zealand. Aaron Cruden not put off by the

:59:17. > :59:23.charging Irish players, seven points for the All Blacks, 22-17. A

:59:24. > :59:28.converted try and the All Blacks will be in the lead. Julian Savea,

:59:29. > :59:32.that was the run that started the surge to the line. LM crowd you

:59:33. > :59:38.highlighted the problem, Ireland wanted to get down there for

:59:39. > :59:41.territory. In doing so they turned the ball over and found they had not

:59:42. > :59:44.had enough possession and New Zealand are able to take the

:59:45. > :59:52.initiative and then get the penalties and go forward. Whilst

:59:53. > :59:53.Ireland do want to do that, it is important to play three phases.

:59:54. > :00:11.White aggro like McCarthy is on. In the front

:00:12. > :00:24.row, Declan Fitzpatrick is on. Fresh legs. Ireland lead by five points.

:00:25. > :00:35.It has been an immense physical effort. How much have they got in

:00:36. > :02:50.the tank? Just enough to sustain the intensity and take them home?

:02:51. > :02:59.Ireland looking for the turnover but it comes their way via the penalty.

:03:00. > :03:07.Irish players scattered over the field. Paul O'Connell is up. Ryan

:03:08. > :03:17.Kearney gets to his feet. Elsewhere, there are players down.

:03:18. > :03:26.Jaimie Heaslip and Sean O'Brien are the top tacklers. They have really

:03:27. > :03:34.put their bodies on the line. Heaney comes off. Jack McGraw comes on for

:03:35. > :03:44.Ireland. On the far side, we still have a player down. While the Irish

:03:45. > :03:55.scrum defence it wonders there to keep the queue -- Kiwis out... That

:03:56. > :04:04.sort of cross kick, if it lands in or around the line, fine. If they

:04:05. > :04:08.had courted and gone on to the 22, with players around him and no

:04:09. > :04:15.momentum and possibly held up... When you have not had the ball for a

:04:16. > :05:19.significant irate of time and conceded, white kick it away?

:05:20. > :05:34.Knock-on by New Zealand. Ten minutes to go. Ireland five points in front.

:05:35. > :05:41.This might be the ten minutes of these Irish players' life, but to be

:05:42. > :05:45.honest these are the biggest ten minutes of a rugby nation's life, a

:05:46. > :05:52.site that they have not beaten before. Your heart, soul and body on

:05:53. > :06:23.the line. If the crowd could kick it home for them they would.

:06:24. > :06:40.It does not take rocket science to work out what the rocket science is

:06:41. > :06:46.here. Catch and drive all day long. Easier said than done sometimes.

:06:47. > :06:58.Destiny is a tantalising nine minutes away. New Zealand have one

:06:59. > :07:37.26 out of 27 fixtures. There was a draw.

:07:38. > :07:54.Penalty to an end! New Zealand take it down. -- penalty to Ireland!

:07:55. > :08:01.There is a world of difference to New Zealand against five and eight

:08:02. > :08:11.points. It is not his favourite kick in the world. It is not his

:08:12. > :08:20.favourite side will -- favourite side.

:08:21. > :08:32.He has got the 15 metres in. talk about margins, there was doubt

:08:33. > :08:36.right up to kick-off time as to whether Jonathan Sexton but the able

:08:37. > :08:40.to start this game and there is a surprise for many that he has been

:08:41. > :09:24.able to recover from the hamstring so quickly.

:09:25. > :09:37.It slides past the post. Five points. Time of the clock is

:09:38. > :10:44.probably an advantage and not an insignificant one there.

:10:45. > :10:55.Irish throw just inside the New Zealand half. Hugely important,

:10:56. > :11:02.that. It gives our event the throw from where they will drive the ball

:11:03. > :11:08.game. -- it gives Ireland the throw. Johnny Sexton comes off. I do not

:11:09. > :11:15.think he has been at 100 assent today. He is definitely carrying

:11:16. > :11:20.something. But Ireland are winding down the clock. Ian Madigan is on as

:11:21. > :13:39.outside half. Ireland are safely down in New

:13:40. > :13:49.Zealand territory, as referee said advantage over. You can hardly hear

:13:50. > :14:12.yourself think in here. They can bring down the clock from

:14:13. > :15:14.here. And on come the little charges by

:15:15. > :15:27.the replacements. Penalty to New Zealand. Jack McGraw penalised.

:15:28. > :15:49.One last defensive set to go through.

:15:50. > :16:43.Conor Murray still making his tackles.

:16:44. > :16:51.New Zealand so close to keeping their one and percent that 100%

:16:52. > :17:01.record alive. Gordon D'Arcy brings him down.

:17:02. > :17:12.It is going to be the drive. For Ryan Crotty. The whistle has gone,

:17:13. > :17:17.players are littered across the field.

:17:18. > :17:26.REFEREE: Just check the pass, please. Checking for the only thing

:17:27. > :17:31.that will prevent what you have to say, if it is a try, was a

:17:32. > :17:36.phenomenal passage of play. We said that they were the best chase down

:17:37. > :17:38.team in the world. The one little penalty. That is backwards, that is

:17:39. > :17:56.a try. Dane Coles, the replacement hooker,

:17:57. > :18:02.to Ryan Crotty, the replacement. REFEREE: Be second to last one, not

:18:03. > :18:05.the last. The one to 23 looks OK to me, look at the one before. From the

:18:06. > :18:12.fly half? OK. Look at them both. That is not forward either. His

:18:13. > :18:21.hands were going backwards. We wait to see any pass has gone

:18:22. > :18:50.forward. It appears not. OK Nigel, you may award the try. The

:18:51. > :18:56.pass is fine, the passes were fine. The pass is fine and I may award the

:18:57. > :19:03.try. The try has been awarded. The score is 22-22 and Aaron Cruden as

:19:04. > :19:09.the kick to win the game. The kick to make the New Zealand All Blacks

:19:10. > :19:15.the only team in the professional age from the top tier to go through

:19:16. > :19:19.a calendar year having won all of their games.

:19:20. > :19:27.One of the reasons why so many people, myself included, love sport

:19:28. > :19:31.is because this is drama writ large and this will be the most awful of

:19:32. > :19:52.endings for Ireland if it goes over. We may have to wait did Ireland is

:19:53. > :20:00.to soon? Kieran Read may have another go at it. They can't stop

:20:01. > :20:09.moving until he starts moving. -- cart starts moving. That is the

:20:10. > :20:14.second time that has happened today. This time, Ireland cannot charge.

:20:15. > :20:23.And this time they will not be allowed to. He has pushed the last

:20:24. > :20:28.one so they will be no correction this time. A second bite. A second

:20:29. > :20:56.bite at the kick. Second time, he gets it right and

:20:57. > :21:00.New Zealand have one. What has to be one of the most pulsating games of

:21:01. > :21:04.rugby union that we will ever have the privilege of watching. It was a

:21:05. > :21:09.fantastic game of rugby and New Zealand have won it by the

:21:10. > :21:16.slenderest of margins, they have beaten Ireland by 24-22. New Zealand

:21:17. > :21:20.won that game, they were dominated by what you could say was the best

:21:21. > :21:28.part of 80 minutes. They played a hell of a lots of rugby in order to

:21:29. > :21:34.win that and that is what they do. Awful for Ireland, heartbreaking for

:21:35. > :21:39.Brian O'Driscoll. What can you say? It was an effort which deserved...

:21:40. > :21:43.In fact, in sport it doesn't count what you deserve, a tremendous

:21:44. > :21:51.effort from Ireland. They were unlucky, New Zealand... What can you

:21:52. > :21:59.say? Winners. Final score here at the Aviva Stadium Ireland's, 22, New

:22:00. > :22:02.Zealand, 24. JOHN INVERDALE: Some of the last

:22:03. > :22:06.words we said before the game began, even when they are on the ropes,

:22:07. > :22:11.they somehow from somewhere inexplicably sometimes, they find

:22:12. > :22:14.the sucker punch and they found it again. That particular chapter in

:22:15. > :22:21.Irish sporting history remains still to be written. It was magnificent on

:22:22. > :22:27.every level and every degree. An incredible performance by Ireland

:22:28. > :22:35.and at the end of it all, with that last passage of play which was off

:22:36. > :22:41.the chart, probably proved that that is why they are the team that they

:22:42. > :22:45.are. It was truly outstanding and gut-wrenching and I have had

:22:46. > :22:49.butterflies for the first time in many a year. What on earth do you

:22:50. > :22:55.say in circumstances like this, Clive? You have to take your hat off

:22:56. > :22:58.that was a magnificent game of rugby, Ireland deserved to win. They

:22:59. > :23:07.just lost a bit of composure at the end. One bit of indiscipline and

:23:08. > :23:13.away it goes. To get so close is just awful. you talk about emotion

:23:14. > :23:16.in sport, I can tell you that in this particular instance, we are

:23:17. > :23:23.looking at the Irish players, that is the loneliest place in the world.

:23:24. > :23:27.At the back of 80 minutes of the best performance of their lives and

:23:28. > :23:34.it is drama where it hit in the final moments. -- and it is drawn

:23:35. > :23:43.away in the final moments. Also a superb piece of refereeing. We have

:23:44. > :23:46.had to talk about referees and their interpretation throughout the autumn

:23:47. > :23:51.internationals. Each and everyone of those players respect them, listens

:23:52. > :23:54.to what they are saying and adheres to it. And he has a great rapport

:23:55. > :23:58.with the players but he delivered the cars we never had to comment on

:23:59. > :24:07.whether he was having an influence, he was making the game flow --

:24:08. > :24:11.deliver the game. It was tantalising. That is why we love the

:24:12. > :24:19.sport. That was the Ireland team's chance.

:24:20. > :24:22.It will take a lot of recovery because they should have won the

:24:23. > :24:27.game and you just have to close the game out and it really needs correct

:24:28. > :24:32.thinking. They have that one penalty, the Sexton penalty, just

:24:33. > :24:36.lost those vital moments in the last couple of minutes. We said

:24:37. > :24:40.throughout, a phenomenal atmosphere but it is very quiet now let's get

:24:41. > :24:44.out is very quiet now let's go down to Sonia. Sean, what a dramatic end

:24:45. > :24:48.to that test match. Can you give me an idea of what the emotions are at

:24:49. > :24:55.the moment. Obviously we are not happy. Losing a game like that,

:24:56. > :25:00.starting so well and not being able to finish them off. We'll have to

:25:01. > :25:02.look at ourselves and see where we can improve. Especially in the

:25:03. > :25:08.second half, we let them play away too much. We said we should go out

:25:09. > :25:12.after half-time and go after them and maybe we did not do that. They

:25:13. > :25:18.do not know when they are beaten, do they, the All Blacks? That is maybe

:25:19. > :25:23.what we need, the belief. We knew they go right to the last minute. We

:25:24. > :25:28.need to keep working that out. At half-time, the question was can you

:25:29. > :25:33.play like that for 80 minutes? Did you believe you could? I do. There

:25:34. > :25:40.is a bit of trust needed in the last two minutes. It is just very

:25:41. > :25:47.disappointing. We will have to assess it. Next time we get into

:25:48. > :25:48.camp. Thank you. Cheers for the JOHN INVERDALE: When the history of this

:25:49. > :25:58.much is it is unfair on Jonny Sexton to

:25:59. > :26:01.allude to it because it would given Ireland a two stroke lead.

:26:02. > :26:09.On such fine margins are the history books written. It is great to see

:26:10. > :26:18.you showing such a motion under half of Ireland, Clive! He did coach

:26:19. > :26:24.London Irish. That was the chance to do it. If that went over, Ireland

:26:25. > :26:27.would have won the game, yes, you can say that but there were several

:26:28. > :26:32.elements where Ireland could have held onto the ball more and closed

:26:33. > :26:38.out the game. It was important for world rugby because this is a good

:26:39. > :26:41.New Zealand team but not the best of all time and they can be beaten.

:26:42. > :26:48.They have won every game this year but I just feel Ireland showed the

:26:49. > :26:52.world you can big this team. Everyone knows this team can be

:26:53. > :26:55.beaten and it is good for the World Cup and it will show that this is

:26:56. > :27:00.great for Irish rugby because this is a serious Irish team. A slightly

:27:01. > :27:11.run out of steam. If they had been slightly bitter, they could have

:27:12. > :27:16.perhaps one it -- slightly fitter. Ireland led New Zealand 20 17 and

:27:17. > :27:20.then lost 4029 in another game. I thought let's not mention that

:27:21. > :27:26.because let's not tempt fate but it has come to pass again. The

:27:27. > :27:32.difference to now, we got blown away with 15 minutes to go. Two

:27:33. > :27:41.absolutely incredible passages of play. Today was different from that

:27:42. > :27:45.much you talked about. It shows you, the level of aggression. It

:27:46. > :27:49.shows you that even having had such a poor performance last week, to be

:27:50. > :27:53.able to have a performance of magnificence and still be upset at

:27:54. > :27:59.the end of it, that shows you where the team has gone. It has been a

:28:00. > :28:03.privilege to be here. What an unbelievable match we have seen.

:28:04. > :28:09.Again that they will never forget, everybody involved. A shame it ends

:28:10. > :28:13.from a parochial sense on a downer but as well as at these pictures of

:28:14. > :28:19.the All Blacks, they are a phenomenal team. Only two teams have

:28:20. > :28:24.ever come back from 19 points down to win a match so they join an

:28:25. > :28:28.illustrious band. All year it has been proven and yet again in Dublin

:28:29. > :28:31.today. There is nothing like the black stuff. Goodbye.
