0:00:32 > 0:00:37A big day for Scotland and a big day for this man, taking charge of his

0:00:37 > 0:00:41country for the first time as head coach at Murrayfield. He knows this

0:00:41 > 0:00:46stadium so well as a player, but new challenges lie in store and after a

0:00:46 > 0:00:59summer tour which left the country with plenty to look forward to.

0:01:02 > 0:01:06Samoa have chased everything. They have hounded everything.Sheer

0:01:06 > 0:01:13genius.The all Blacks so, so impressive.New Zealand relentless.

0:01:13 > 0:01:23That is a wonderful try. Beautiful from the Wallabies.Well,

0:01:23 > 0:01:43if you're talking X Factor, this has it.Delighted.

0:01:44 > 0:01:51Well, it's a busy start to autumn test rugby. We are at a dry, sunny,

0:01:51 > 0:01:56crisp, cold Murrayfield for this one. Samoa the first test for

0:01:56 > 0:02:00Scotland and New Zealand in the weeks to come. It could be an

0:02:00 > 0:02:07exciting series. Alongside me at Murrayfield Andy nickle who played

0:02:07 > 0:02:12alongside the Scotland coach, a former Scotland scrum-half. Dan who

0:02:12 > 0:02:17played many times for Samoa. We will talk about off the pitch matters for

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Samoa and Greg who would be out there captaining Scotland, but an

0:02:20 > 0:02:25ill-timed injury means you will spend the afternoon with us. Guys, I

0:02:25 > 0:02:34don't think we're over egg, the sense of excitement is tangible. He

0:02:34 > 0:02:39has come into Scotland with a great summer tour under his belt apart

0:02:39 > 0:02:44from the defeat to Fiji, but beating Australia. It is a sell out today

0:02:44 > 0:02:49Andy and for the next two tests. You expect for New Zealand and

0:02:49 > 0:02:53Australia, but not Samoa. It proves what the whole match day experience

0:02:53 > 0:02:58has been like. Greg has inherited a side that won the last three games

0:02:58 > 0:03:02at Murrayfield in the six nations Gabby. There is almost 60,000 here

0:03:02 > 0:03:06today which is remarkable. This is going to become a more fres as it

0:03:06 > 0:03:11was in the last Six Nations for Scotland. Dan, we discussed, I said

0:03:11 > 0:03:15in your introduction it has been a disappointing and difficult week for

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Samoa because of the bankruptcy and the financial affairs for the

0:03:18 > 0:03:21country and you have talked a lot about that and we will tap into your

0:03:21 > 0:03:25thoughts on that in a moment, but in terms of getting on the pitch and

0:03:25 > 0:03:30playing, are the Samoan players ready? Have the distraction of the

0:03:30 > 0:03:33financial matter been a distraction for them?It is a great chance to

0:03:33 > 0:03:37put that behind you as a rugby player and get on the field to do

0:03:37 > 0:03:40what you're here to do. I'm confident the guys will come with

0:03:40 > 0:03:47the right mindset and rugby is a great game to put your frustrations

0:03:47 > 0:03:51on the field. So I expect this to be a really fiery affair.Of course,

0:03:51 > 0:03:56you were involved in the British and Irish Lions and didn't take part in

0:03:56 > 0:04:01the tour. You have seen what has gone on the camp and I know you

0:04:01 > 0:04:05would love to be out there is there a change in the atmosphere and the

0:04:05 > 0:04:12tempo?I think Andy touched on it, we won all our three home games in

0:04:12 > 0:04:19the Six Nations and leading into a successful summer tour. I know how

0:04:19 > 0:04:23excited the boys are here to play in front of the their home fans and get

0:04:23 > 0:04:30the jerseys on.We will hear from the man himself. He has been at the

0:04:30 > 0:04:36fore front of Scottish rugby from his school days. Playing alongside

0:04:36 > 0:04:45him was Andy Nicholls. Who better to grill him?I think the first time

0:04:45 > 0:04:50our paths crossed was in 1988. Who would have thought almost 30 years

0:04:50 > 0:04:55on, here we are I'm asking you questions for the BBC and you the

0:04:55 > 0:04:59Scotland national coach?I remember that. I was in first year and you

0:04:59 > 0:05:04were in sixth year. You were held back a bit! There is five or six

0:05:04 > 0:05:11years difference between us.No, there is not.I loved the game. It

0:05:11 > 0:05:17was a breakthrough game for me playing against all the players and

0:05:17 > 0:05:24being part of the game now.Gregor, if we go back to our playing days.

0:05:24 > 0:05:28You did your university degree and you were working for the Royal Bank.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32All of us thought you would go down a business route. When did you think

0:05:32 > 0:05:37that coaching was going to be the future?Back in those days the game

0:05:37 > 0:05:42was amateur. It was important to have a second career. I worked for a

0:05:42 > 0:05:48year, 95 to 96 and then the game went professional. I'm glad I did my

0:05:48 > 0:05:52university studies, but I really had another ten years of playing just

0:05:52 > 0:05:56professional rugby and I felt with my experiences I had as a player,

0:05:56 > 0:06:00the coaches I had worked with, I should have knowledge to give it a

0:06:00 > 0:06:07go at coaching. Gregor, his sixth try for Scotland.

0:06:07 > 0:06:15It's 13-13 and the crowd here, well, they're just lapping it up.I got

0:06:15 > 0:06:20working with Edinburgh to begin with in age group rugby and it was great

0:06:20 > 0:06:27working one on one with them, especially players in your position,

0:06:27 > 0:06:30young stand-offs, but there was part of the initial coaching I didn't

0:06:30 > 0:06:34enjoy and now when I look back, I'm glad I went through that period

0:06:34 > 0:06:37because I learned more about myself and more about coaching, but I have

0:06:37 > 0:06:40enjoyed the last five or six years. You mentioned the coaches that you

0:06:40 > 0:06:47played under. Who are the coaches that you looked up to and who do you

0:06:47 > 0:06:53tap into any of that resource now? Playing for a long period with Ian

0:06:53 > 0:06:59at Northampton. COMMENTATOR:Townsend.With Scotland

0:06:59 > 0:07:05with the Lions was amazing. Jim Telford. Jim was a great coach for

0:07:05 > 0:07:10me. They certainly helped my game. They wanted the best out of me. And

0:07:10 > 0:07:14that's been the same case since I have been a coach and I speak with

0:07:14 > 0:07:19them regularly. They're seeing things in the game that we don't

0:07:19 > 0:07:24see. They are passionate about what they do. You have got, I don't know,

0:07:24 > 0:07:2750, 60 years experience in the game, so they're going to be very strong

0:07:27 > 0:07:32in the belief of what will work and what doesn't work. What is your

0:07:32 > 0:07:36coaching philosophy?Well, my coaching philosophy is more than

0:07:36 > 0:07:41just a game plan. You would love the team to play. It's how you emplament

0:07:41 > 0:07:45the game plan or how you shape your week in terms of the training. I've

0:07:45 > 0:07:50grown up and watched Scotland teams be at their best when they take the

0:07:50 > 0:07:58game to the opposition, when they play at pace. We had a fast game in

0:07:58 > 0:08:01the 80s and 90s that was successful. You fast forward to the last couple

0:08:01 > 0:08:06of years and it is similar dynamics. We suited to hard work and bringing

0:08:06 > 0:08:10energy in how we play. You have to shape your week to bring that out

0:08:10 > 0:08:14and that's what we are working as a coaching group, but also a coaching

0:08:14 > 0:08:18group alongside the players to make sure that what we do gets that

0:08:18 > 0:08:24outcome at the weekend. The reason I say that is by the Friday, Saturday,

0:08:24 > 0:08:30the coach's role is much less relevant than it is on a Monday and

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Tuesday. The players should be doing the talking. They are the ones that

0:08:32 > 0:08:36lead the training and lead it the game. From my prospective, it's all

0:08:36 > 0:08:40about looking forward to seeing our players play and looking forward to

0:08:40 > 0:08:45seeing the game unfold. The way they played against Italy, the way they

0:08:45 > 0:08:48played against Australia, showed their ability and their confidence

0:08:48 > 0:08:53to take on these excellent teams. Fiji was disappointing. But it might

0:08:53 > 0:08:58be a valuable game for us in the future. We might look back on that

0:08:58 > 0:09:03game and go, "Right, we did things wrong as a coaching team." Certain

0:09:03 > 0:09:07players may not have been where we wanted them to be and it has been a

0:09:07 > 0:09:11motivator for a number of players to go, "Right, that can't happen

0:09:11 > 0:09:17again." We have Samoa who have been a tough owe pont for Scotland and

0:09:17 > 0:09:23then looking beyond that, I think we play every team in the top eight in

0:09:23 > 0:09:25the world apart from South Africa's in the next eight months. What a

0:09:25 > 0:09:29great challenge for us and we realise that we have to be at our

0:09:29 > 0:09:35best to beat the best teams in the world. It has been a lot of fun the

0:09:35 > 0:09:42last 30 years. Go luck in the next few years! It was a good chat and it

0:09:42 > 0:09:45was fascinating to hear his philosophies and that will be the

0:09:45 > 0:09:50key thing. You said we never thought you would be a coach and now he is

0:09:50 > 0:09:55doing it, it seems the most natural thing in the world, he brought his

0:09:55 > 0:09:58intell of electual capability to the role of coaching. He is a great guy.

0:09:58 > 0:10:05He always has been. He has brought those traits, the personality into,

0:10:05 > 0:10:09he has got intelligence and very good emotional intelligence. The

0:10:09 > 0:10:13temperament was one of his real qualities as a player and I think he

0:10:13 > 0:10:17has brought that into his coaching career as well. He doesn't get too

0:10:17 > 0:10:23high or too low. He sticks to what he wants, what he knows, he has got

0:10:23 > 0:10:25a good philosophy and a good understanding of what he is trying

0:10:25 > 0:10:34to achieve and he stays true. It is a real pleasure to really get in

0:10:34 > 0:10:39amongst them and what makes him tick. This is a proud day for him

0:10:39 > 0:10:46making his debut at Murrayfield. It is the first time we have had a

0:10:46 > 0:10:49Scottish home-grown coach since Frank Haddon. I think everyone is

0:10:49 > 0:10:54really excited to see what Gregor Townsend can bring to the Scotland

0:10:54 > 0:11:00job.It doesn't seem two minutes since he was running out as a

0:11:00 > 0:11:05player. The speed of his success has been quick. I love the fact that he

0:11:05 > 0:11:09went out to see Roberto Martin necessary because he wanted to talk

0:11:09 > 0:11:14about transition from club to country. He does have a real

0:11:14 > 0:11:17appetite, a thirst, for bringing in new ideas. Have you seen that this

0:11:17 > 0:11:22week in the camp? Are you beginning to feelYeah, he is forward

0:11:22 > 0:11:26thinking. He goes out there and speaks to people and he is always

0:11:26 > 0:11:31trying to learn. He was successful at Glasgow. He has done a great job

0:11:31 > 0:11:35and you can sense the real hunger for him to succeed at this level is

0:11:35 > 0:11:40really driving the boys forward, driving whoever it is he speaks to

0:11:40 > 0:11:44forward day in and day out and he is getting the training up to how he

0:11:44 > 0:11:49wants it and the boys are sited to show that today.Ally Price said

0:11:49 > 0:11:53that the play book has gone up from about six or seven moves to 20 and

0:11:53 > 0:11:57also he wants to play the quickest kind of rugby in world rugby, that's

0:11:57 > 0:12:01his aim. Has that changed the dynamic at training?Well, it has a

0:12:01 > 0:12:05little bit because everybody has to be switched on and in terms of the

0:12:05 > 0:12:10players, the boys need to be real switched on. If they put in more

0:12:10 > 0:12:16players, they will have to run them well. It comes back to the

0:12:16 > 0:12:20fundamentals. Don't be too loose and we should be OK.Thank you. Well, of

0:12:20 > 0:12:25course, he had a few selection worries. A lot of injuries for

0:12:25 > 0:12:28Scotland, but Gregor spoke to Sonia a few moments ago.

0:12:28 > 0:12:33You are very familiar with this old place, but what was it like arriving

0:12:33 > 0:12:38today, knowing I'm in charge of this team?Yes, I probably didn't realise

0:12:38 > 0:12:42as I arrived. I was taking in the atmosphere. It is great for our

0:12:42 > 0:12:47players to see so many supporters here. They will create a really good

0:12:47 > 0:12:51atmosphere today. We saw the best of Scotland and the worst of Scotland

0:12:51 > 0:12:55in the summer, beating Australia and defeat to Fiji. Which Scotland will

0:12:55 > 0:12:58stand up today?We will see. I hope it's the former. We've trained

0:12:58 > 0:13:04really well and the players that we've selected are on form. But we

0:13:04 > 0:13:07also know that Samoa are a tough side. They are very physical and

0:13:07 > 0:13:12play at pace. We believe they will move the ball a lot today. So we

0:13:12 > 0:13:18have to play our best rugby.Samoa not without difficulties. Do you

0:13:18 > 0:13:22have sympathy? If they are in financial difficulty, it is not

0:13:22 > 0:13:27great to hear. Samoan rugby has been one of the best places to play, one

0:13:27 > 0:13:33of the best teams over the last 20 years, a real challenge for

0:13:33 > 0:13:38oppositions and in the past Scotland games have been close affairs.Good

0:13:38 > 0:13:42luck today.Thank you.Scotland are down to their fifth choice loose

0:13:42 > 0:13:47head. So the scrum will be interesting today. A few headaches

0:13:47 > 0:13:52for the new young head coach? It proves the strength and depth is

0:13:52 > 0:13:56there and that's something Scotland have not had. It is not long ago, if

0:13:56 > 0:13:59we were playing fifth choice, you would be getting somebody out of the

0:13:59 > 0:14:11stand. To have Darryl Marfo from Edinburgh. When you look at the back

0:14:11 > 0:14:16line, there are so many injuries. They have been key players for

0:14:16 > 0:14:19Scotland and you look at the quality of the back line today, Scotland

0:14:19 > 0:14:25have got, you can see there is real strength and depth.Let's pick out

0:14:25 > 0:14:29Huw Jones who made his debut last year in magnificent style against

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Australia. He spent a lot of time in South Africa from the age of 18 and

0:14:32 > 0:14:35came back and he is playing for Glasgow. What does he bring to the

0:14:35 > 0:14:39side and how big is his future in international rugby? He literally

0:14:39 > 0:14:42exploded on to the international scene with this catch and try here

0:14:42 > 0:14:47against Australia this time last year. What a bounce to get in about

0:14:47 > 0:14:51five minutes into your debut, wasn't it? It was brilliant. He has got

0:14:51 > 0:14:58more to his game. He has good feet and he brought pace at 13 last year.

0:14:58 > 0:15:08It was a good balance. He has a great partnership with Alex Dunbar.

0:15:08 > 0:15:11He is a really exciting player and I'm delighted that he is back

0:15:11 > 0:15:18playing. Man of the Match in the Currie Cup a few weeks ago.How

0:15:18 > 0:15:23exciting must it be for the players like Huw Jones and Alex Dunbar when

0:15:23 > 0:15:29you play your rugby with a back line?It is a step up and a level

0:15:29 > 0:15:33and the boys will understand that and the boys you've mentioned Huw

0:15:33 > 0:15:37coming in. He is coming back from injuries. He played really well at

0:15:37 > 0:15:41Currie Cup and some of the clips there, if Finn can reproduce some of

0:15:41 > 0:15:46that form, he has given him a tremendous ball to play off. I think

0:15:46 > 0:15:50hopefully we can release the back line and really exciting players.

0:15:50 > 0:15:56Tommy Seymour. It should be good to see.We are getting on to Samoa now,

0:15:56 > 0:16:01Dan. It has been the story of the week really the bankruptcy of the

0:16:01 > 0:16:05Samoan rugby union. The financial handling of the second tier nation.

0:16:05 > 0:16:11Not an easy week to the build up to this. Sonia spoke to the team

0:16:11 > 0:16:16manager earlier. It has been a difficult week for

0:16:16 > 0:16:20Samoan rugby. How are the players coping with it all?I have to tell

0:16:20 > 0:16:26you that we are very relaxed. The spirit in the camp is really good.

0:16:26 > 0:16:30It really helps that Scotland Union have really helped us a lot. They

0:16:30 > 0:16:34have been really good hosts and yeah, the spirit is really good. We

0:16:34 > 0:16:39are ready for the game. The country, the union, is in

0:16:39 > 0:16:44turmoil. Does that not have an impact on the players mentally?

0:16:44 > 0:16:49Well, to be quite honest, no, not really because the boys are here,

0:16:49 > 0:16:55they are focussed on the game and you know they are so proud to

0:16:55 > 0:16:59represent Samoa and whatever is happening back home, it's not

0:16:59 > 0:17:05affecting us, we are getting paid and we are carrying on as usual.

0:17:05 > 0:17:10It's normal.Since the news broke that the Samoan rugby union is

0:17:10 > 0:17:15broke, what sort of messages and support have you had from people

0:17:15 > 0:17:19back at home in Samoa because the sport is huge in your country?Yes.

0:17:19 > 0:17:24Well from back home, all the messages are encouraging messages,

0:17:24 > 0:17:29you know. They keep on telling us not to worry about it. Everything is

0:17:29 > 0:17:32going to be all right. Our government has really helped us a

0:17:32 > 0:17:38lot. The rugby as a whole and world rugby is there too helping and

0:17:38 > 0:17:42lending a helping hand and the support around the Government as

0:17:42 > 0:17:45well, not just Samoa, but around the world. People here are willing to

0:17:45 > 0:17:52help. Which we are very happy, very excited about and so thankful for

0:17:52 > 0:17:58it.Good luck today.Thank you, we're going to win.He is putting a

0:17:58 > 0:18:04brave face on it. These are worrying times. There needs to be a serious

0:18:04 > 0:18:11discussion about the funding of the second tier nations. They can't rely

0:18:11 > 0:18:17on the gate receipts. It is time to have a discussion, is it not?I

0:18:17 > 0:18:23agree. It is a sad situation with Samoa, not surprising. We have got

0:18:23 > 0:18:27dominance issues that we need to sort out within our home. The fact

0:18:27 > 0:18:33that the current wealth distribution model sees us receive none of the

0:18:33 > 0:18:40gate tickets. 60,000 people here, and possibly over 80,000 in two

0:18:40 > 0:18:45weeks at Twickenham and Samoa receive nothing. We have a capacity

0:18:45 > 0:18:49of 10,000 people back at Samoa, you can't price tickets more than £10 a

0:18:49 > 0:18:54head and there is no money to be made there.15% of all professional

0:18:54 > 0:19:01rugby players come from the islands. The world of rugby owes a lot to the

0:19:01 > 0:19:06small islands. It is time they paid their price? This might be the

0:19:06 > 0:19:10catalyst for a discussion about it. I think this is not about throwing

0:19:10 > 0:19:14money at Samoa because there has to be a long-term sustainable solution

0:19:14 > 0:19:20to not just for Samoa, for Fiji, because I can't imagine they are too

0:19:20 > 0:19:24far behind Samoa, but all tier two nations. World rugby as a whole, not

0:19:24 > 0:19:27just the organisation, have got to really help to make the tier two

0:19:27 > 0:19:31come up to as close to the level as tier one as possible to make it a

0:19:31 > 0:19:34global game that's really competitive.As an international,

0:19:34 > 0:19:38you love facing the other nations, don't you? This will be a great test

0:19:38 > 0:19:44for Scotland today. The perfect way to start the autumn series.Every

0:19:44 > 0:19:49time you face Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, it is incredible games. The World Cup

0:19:49 > 0:19:54was a tough test. They always play with their hearts on their sleeve.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57We have to help these plaitions. They have some of the best players

0:19:57 > 0:20:02in the world come from the countries we're talking about. As the

0:20:02 > 0:20:04atmosphere ramps up inside Murrayfield and the expectation for

0:20:04 > 0:20:08the new era is building, prodictions for today. Anything other than a

0:20:08 > 0:20:13Scotland win for you, Andy?Earlier in the week, Gabby I was confident,

0:20:13 > 0:20:17maybe that's because of the turmoil coming out of the Samoan camp. As

0:20:17 > 0:20:20you see the quality of the individuals that Samoa have, it will

0:20:20 > 0:20:24be a real challenge for Scotland. The game two years ago in St James'

0:20:24 > 0:20:28Park was amazing before this man got a try late on to win it by a couple

0:20:28 > 0:20:32of points for Scotland, but I think it will be a bit easier for Scotland

0:20:32 > 0:20:36today. I think they will play at pace which means they have got to

0:20:36 > 0:20:39have the accuracy. If we get that, then I think they'll win and win

0:20:39 > 0:20:44guide well. There is exciting talent on the pitch today from Samoa? There

0:20:44 > 0:21:01is. Tim Nanai-Williams at 10. I'm really looking forward to seeing the

0:21:01 > 0:21:08reserve scrum-half. He earns five quid a week.Wow.He will play in

0:21:08 > 0:21:12front of 60,000 people today and I'm sure he will do his family proud.

0:21:12 > 0:21:17Confidence high?Scotland are in a good place. As we touched on before,

0:21:17 > 0:21:20returning back to Murrayfield, I think Scotland can start well and I

0:21:20 > 0:21:23think Scotland will win.Thank you very much, guys. Let's get you up to

0:21:23 > 0:21:27the commentary team as the teams come out on the pitch. Our team in

0:21:27 > 0:21:36the box today are Chris Patterson and John Bettie.

0:21:36 > 0:21:44COMMENTATOR: Thank you. Welcome to Murrayfield.

0:21:46 > 0:21:50Samoa have lost their last four internationals. Their worst record

0:21:50 > 0:21:57since 19.81. The beauty of international sport, you can't

0:21:57 > 0:22:03predict the future unless you have a lightening strike and it gives you

0:22:03 > 0:22:25335 way before Chuck Berry. And we begin with a minute's silence.

0:23:39 > 0:23:48A stillness fell over this stadium as we remember the fallen.

0:23:48 > 0:23:56And now the anthems.

0:25:15 > 0:25:17APPLAUSE Please remain standing for the

0:25:17 > 0:25:21Flower of Scotland.

0:25:28 > 0:25:31# O flower of Scotland

0:25:31 > 0:25:39# When will we see your like again

0:25:39 > 0:25:45# That fought and died for

0:25:45 > 0:25:47# Your wee bit hill and glen

0:25:47 > 0:25:52# And stood against him

0:25:52 > 0:25:56# Proud Edward's army

0:25:56 > 0:26:01# And sent him homeward

0:26:01 > 0:26:06# Tae think again

0:26:06 > 0:26:12# Those days are passed now

0:26:12 > 0:26:18# And in the past they must remain

0:26:18 > 0:26:23# But we can still rise now

0:26:23 > 0:26:27# And be the nation again

0:26:27 > 0:26:30# That stood against him

0:26:30 > 0:26:34# Proud Edward's army

0:26:34 > 0:26:38# And sent him homeward

0:26:38 > 0:26:47# Tae think again. #

0:26:50 > 0:26:55Well, there is a huge crowd here at Murrayfield. The pitch is bone dry.

0:26:55 > 0:27:00It's going to be one heck of a game. Chris Patterson.Yeah, looking

0:27:00 > 0:27:05forward to this one. Good afternoon, everyone. I think it will be quick.

0:27:05 > 0:27:11We heard Gregor and saying he wants Scotland to play as quick as anyone

0:27:11 > 0:27:15else and in world rugby you have to be disciplined and fit to play like

0:27:15 > 0:27:20that, especially when you're playing against a like Samoa who feed off

0:27:20 > 0:27:25mistakes and a real firecracker at number 10. There is Gregor Townsend.

0:27:25 > 0:27:32He got off to a cracking start as coach of Scotland in the summer.

0:27:32 > 0:27:40This is his first home game as head coach. The Scotland team will face

0:27:40 > 0:27:44the Samoans pre-match. They will have a huddle together. They will be

0:27:44 > 0:27:48focussed, John, they will be focussed and proud of their heritage

0:27:48 > 0:27:54and ready to take on Scotland. Here we go then.

0:27:54 > 0:27:59The words include, "Let's go to war. Here I come completely prepared. My

0:27:59 > 0:28:12strength is at its peak. Make way and move aside."

0:28:51 > 0:28:56APPLAUSE Well, this there is the challenge

0:28:56 > 0:29:02and that's the task ahead of these Scots. Much depends on how the

0:29:02 > 0:29:13Samoans play today. Tim Nanai-Williams a genius at 10. The

0:29:13 > 0:29:24Scottish forwards are made up of more foe and McInally. -- far foe

0:29:24 > 0:29:47and McInally. Barclay the veteran and talisman.

0:29:47 > 0:29:55Now the Samoan forwards have an uncompromising look.

0:29:55 > 0:30:03Lam and Alapati Leiua. And the scrumming line out with a

0:30:03 > 0:30:11success at 75% average over ten games, Scotland is closer to 100%.

0:30:11 > 0:30:17And the Samoan backs. All eyes on Tim Nanai-Williams,

0:30:17 > 0:30:27cousin to Sony Bill. The referee is Nic Berry from Australia, helped by

0:30:27 > 0:30:39George Clancy from Ireland and Simon McDowell is the TMO.

0:30:47 > 0:30:57To Perez.

0:31:09 > 0:31:14By the Scots. Gregor Townsend said he wants the

0:31:14 > 0:31:25team to play the fastest rugby. Stuart Hogg supported by Price.

0:31:25 > 0:31:36Dunbar with a late hit.

0:31:47 > 0:31:54through. Tommy Seymour is after this.

0:31:54 > 0:32:01It is that man Stuart Hogg. A devastating try by the Scots!Stuart

0:32:01 > 0:32:08Hogg inside the first two minutes, a try for Scotland. That is really

0:32:08 > 0:32:11good game management from Russ Wilcox. It all started from a

0:32:11 > 0:32:15turnover. Darryl Marfo won the important

0:32:15 > 0:32:22turnover and Scotland went through the phases. Not far through the

0:32:22 > 0:32:28strong Somoan defence and then the chip through.

0:32:28 > 0:32:35Andrew Marr on his feet, this is after three or four phases of good

0:32:35 > 0:32:39defence from Samoa. Tommy Seymour as sharp as ever and

0:32:39 > 0:32:44then Stuart Hogg running that inside support channel.

0:32:44 > 0:32:48He scores underneath the post. A really important kick from Russ

0:32:48 > 0:32:54Wilcox. The Samoan defence was strong.

0:32:54 > 0:32:59Scotland weren't getting in from behind.

0:32:59 > 0:33:07The change from 14 to 15 and to Stuart Hogg, with a try. A great

0:33:07 > 0:33:14start to the score. Russ Wilcox is the most successful

0:33:14 > 0:33:26kicker in the Pro-14. He doesn't miss many.

0:33:38 > 0:33:50-- Finn Russell. Penalty for Scotland.

0:33:50 > 0:33:57Russ Wilcox's long range effort is missed.

0:33:59 > 0:34:11Half escapes the tackle. White jerseys surround him.

0:34:34 > 0:34:45Jones kicks this one. Taken by Ah See Tuala.

0:34:45 > 0:34:55A good play by Lee Jones.Didn't want to risk a penalty.

0:34:55 > 0:35:02Tyrell is in there. This is Tim Nanai-Williams.

0:35:02 > 0:35:11A good break by Kieron Fonotia. Scots' up quickly in defence.

0:35:11 > 0:35:23Turnover ball. Taken well. Was he bundled into

0:35:23 > 0:35:36touch? Piula Fa'asalele with a delicate pop to Jordan Lay.

0:35:36 > 0:35:53Out to this big number 8, Lamb, cousin of Pat Lam.

0:35:56 > 0:36:07-- Lam. You can see how the Samoans want to

0:36:07 > 0:36:12keep the ball in hand. Getting a little bit of success in and around

0:36:12 > 0:36:16the breakdown. Hamish Watson winning that turnover.

0:36:16 > 0:36:29Nic Berry, the referee is having a word with the Samoan captain.Samoa

0:36:29 > 0:36:35won't be happy with that play. They didn't kick. A tremendous bursts up

0:36:35 > 0:36:42the middle by the hooker. Jack Lam was prominent. David Lemi, the

0:36:42 > 0:36:47left-winger was on hand. He used to play at Glasgow Warriors.

0:36:47 > 0:36:52Some of the players may remember playing with David Lemi. But Finn

0:36:52 > 0:36:57Russell started well. Two chip kicks through all right. Trying to force

0:36:57 > 0:37:06the pressure on to Samoa. Stuart McInally, the Scots have had

0:37:06 > 0:37:11an average of 95% line-out success. This is the way that they will have

0:37:11 > 0:37:23chosen to tire out the big Samoans.

0:37:24 > 0:37:35Price with the educated left boot.

0:37:39 > 0:37:53Tim Nanai-Williams behind that. Taken by Jordan Lay.

0:37:55 > 0:38:00The kick from Tim Nanai-Williams that was forced there. Lee Jones

0:38:00 > 0:38:07forced into touch. I'm not sure if it was what he was expecting. Maybe

0:38:07 > 0:38:15he expected it to be longer. Perez to chase. They are not playing

0:38:15 > 0:38:18a hugely structured game. Whatever position they fall into, they play

0:38:18 > 0:38:24well on the ball. Samoa are very dangerous and difficult to defend at

0:38:24 > 0:38:32times. Russell trying to chip it over.

0:38:32 > 0:38:43Intercepted by Kieron Fonotia. You say that the Samoans are

0:38:43 > 0:38:51enjoying this unstructured game? It's a good attack from Samoa. You

0:38:51 > 0:38:59can see how hard they are to defend. The footwork is so good.

0:38:59 > 0:39:03The Scotland defence coach will be asking players to get off the

0:39:03 > 0:39:08defensive line harder. This is the full back, this is where

0:39:08 > 0:39:12the penalty came, not rolling away quick enough.

0:39:12 > 0:39:19I think it is number 9, Ali Price. The Samoans have opted to kick at

0:39:19 > 0:39:24goal. The way to shut down that attack is to take the time and the

0:39:24 > 0:39:29space away from the attack. So Scotland have to get organised

0:39:29 > 0:39:34quickly, then get off the line before these passes.

0:39:34 > 0:39:50And this is Tim Nanai-Williams, who, as we said, Sony Bill's cousin.

0:39:51 > 0:40:01He doesn't usually play stand-off. This is his first game at 10.

0:40:01 > 0:40:06That one's going to drop short and right.

0:40:06 > 0:40:13Russell just pulls that right foot back and sends it lock.

0:40:13 > 0:40:23-- long.

0:40:47 > 0:40:57Out the back door. It's a long advantage for Nic Berry.

0:40:57 > 0:41:02But I like to see that to promote positive play. Again the Samoans

0:41:02 > 0:41:06finding time to get the ball free and contact.

0:41:06 > 0:41:22Forcing Perez into touch. This is an interesting decision for

0:41:22 > 0:41:28the captain Chris Vui. That will please Matt Taylor, trying

0:41:28 > 0:41:32to get forward taking the time and the space.

0:41:32 > 0:41:38But maybe jumping there a little too quickly. This is where Samoa can get

0:41:38 > 0:41:47joy after the hard work going forward first. Tim Nanai-Williams,

0:41:47 > 0:41:50having recently missed his first attempt. It was difficult, it was a

0:41:50 > 0:41:56long way out. He will have to refocus. A difficult decision for

0:41:56 > 0:42:04the captain, Chris Vui. Chris

0:42:06 > 0:42:12Tim Nanai-Williams, successful!And to be fair, the Samoans have been

0:42:12 > 0:42:15playing good rugby. Their first Scottish try.

0:42:15 > 0:42:19They have done. Most of the possession and made good use of the

0:42:19 > 0:42:20possession. Congratulations to Tim

0:42:20 > 0:42:26Nanai-Williams. That is not easy to stand up so soon after missing in

0:42:26 > 0:42:33the first place.

0:42:36 > 0:42:51It will be a line-out to the Scots. Quickly into mid-field. Russell,

0:42:51 > 0:42:58with that sliding ball to Jones. Intercepted! Lovely delayed pass to

0:42:58 > 0:43:03How Jones. It just slid out of his area.

0:43:03 > 0:43:09That was a slick attack from Scotland. Well defended by Ah See

0:43:09 > 0:43:15Tuala to read the final pass it would have been a score by Tommy

0:43:15 > 0:43:17Seymour but Ah See Tuala reads it and no more.

0:43:17 > 0:43:28A great pass.

0:43:36 > 0:43:48Taken by Ah See Tuala. Actual -- Ben Toolis.

0:43:48 > 0:44:00There's a Scot down in the mid-field. Toolis has a chance.

0:44:00 > 0:44:07Samoans counterruck on top, pulled back for a penalty.

0:44:07 > 0:44:17Nic Berry... Not rolling away. John Barclay takes a hit off the

0:44:17 > 0:44:27ball. Number two just needs to get out of

0:44:27 > 0:44:34there much quicker. They are looking at Alastair, Jack Lam.Difficult to

0:44:34 > 0:44:41call. Lam stands his ground. The TMO... He almost does more than

0:44:41 > 0:44:46stand his ground. It's hard to get out of the way.

0:44:46 > 0:44:51If he launches towards him in a tackle position...We're looking at

0:44:51 > 0:44:58it again. Here it comes. It is so flat to the line. I don't think Jack

0:44:58 > 0:45:02Lam can pull out of it. But he makes more of a hit than he could have

0:45:02 > 0:45:12done. Alex Dunbar, out for six weeks after

0:45:12 > 0:45:16a knee operation. Came back against Leinster last

0:45:16 > 0:45:23Friday, only to be yellow carded. Russell keeps the scoreboard ticking

0:45:23 > 0:45:25over. It's an important three points for

0:45:25 > 0:45:33Scotland. They've not had a huge amount of possession.

0:45:33 > 0:45:38After the try, Samoa have had good attack, good possession, a good

0:45:38 > 0:45:42three points of their own. So that's an important three points for

0:45:42 > 0:45:48Scotland. .Samoa take their time before the

0:45:48 > 0:45:58game restarts.

0:46:26 > 0:46:30This front row of Jordan Lay and Donald Brighouse standing the ground

0:46:30 > 0:46:34mid-field. Williams is popping up all over the place. The blue jerseys

0:46:34 > 0:46:42are coming in. Perez wants it but it looks like the Scots have turned it

0:46:42 > 0:46:53over. Russell is knocked on.

0:47:10 > 0:47:16The Samoans have to work quickly to get into position. The Scots are

0:47:16 > 0:47:22very well organised. They are putting pressure on.That

0:47:22 > 0:47:30play causing all manner of problems for the Samoans at breakdown.

0:47:30 > 0:47:46Taken up by Lay. It's that open field running.

0:48:05 > 0:48:08Finn Russell attacking on the left-hand side.

0:48:08 > 0:48:14A kick through to Jones! It's carried on by Hogg. Was that ball in

0:48:14 > 0:48:27touch? Or is that his second try? He's not sure.

0:48:29 > 0:48:33Everyone thought this had finished. But Lee Jones kept going. Let's

0:48:33 > 0:48:37watch this again. Well, really quick thinking. I

0:48:37 > 0:48:42thought that the ball kissed the line and no more. It was the ball I

0:48:42 > 0:48:51was looking at...It's inside. Just. That's a quick-thinking attack from

0:48:51 > 0:48:55Ali Price and Finn Russell with the kick-through again. One more look at

0:48:55 > 0:49:02it. The ball's crossed the line, hasn't

0:49:02 > 0:49:17it, John?I would say that Jones is the 7s expert.

0:49:27 > 0:49:32I have a decision reline. To Samoa.

0:49:32 > 0:49:38Having a word. I think Scotland have been effective

0:49:38 > 0:49:43at the breakdown. Scotland have been disrunting

0:49:43 > 0:49:48Samoa's possession. With the last three games, the

0:49:48 > 0:49:59line-out success has been 75%. Over the top.

0:50:12 > 0:50:14Pting Samoa's possession. With the last three games, the

0:50:14 > 0:50:19line-out success has been 75%. Over the top.

0:50:19 > 0:50:23You're talking about something, and they have the line-out under way.

0:50:23 > 0:50:29The only place to speed a game of rugby up is on the line-out.

0:50:29 > 0:50:35When the ball is off the field. You can't really run any quicker, you

0:50:35 > 0:50:40can't see what the defence will do but with the line-out, the ball is

0:50:40 > 0:50:53quickly tapped in. That is a way of bringing tempo to the game.

0:51:01 > 0:51:08If they get possession from here, it looks like they're going to attack.

0:51:08 > 0:51:12That's a good first shove by the Scottish scrum.

0:51:12 > 0:51:17Scotland have over the last ten games had a scrum success of their

0:51:17 > 0:51:23own put in of nigh on 100%. Which is refreshing. That means that

0:51:23 > 0:51:37they are treating it as a tool to get the game up and running.

0:51:37 > 0:51:43Trying to manipulate the scrum. Helping defenders out wide.

0:51:43 > 0:51:49That was the new loose head prop, Andrew Marr. He qualifies because of

0:51:49 > 0:51:53a Scottish mother. So far, he's been effective.

0:51:53 > 0:51:58He's done well. He's won two turnovers. Busy around the contact

0:51:58 > 0:52:06area. He will be comfortable in the front

0:52:06 > 0:52:08row alongside Edinburgh colleagues, Stuart McInally. They train together

0:52:08 > 0:52:13and play together. It makes a big difference when you are working

0:52:13 > 0:52:23together as a unit.

0:52:26 > 0:52:31Definitely got the upper hand. But not according to the ref who

0:52:31 > 0:52:39says that the Scots were wheeling. Let's have another look at the

0:52:39 > 0:52:44scrum. But it looked as though Scotland were driving straight and

0:52:44 > 0:52:49won the battle. The momentum shifts forward and then round. I think that

0:52:49 > 0:52:54Pele Cowley can play that. If the ball is the at the back, the referee

0:52:54 > 0:53:05could opt to use it to get the ball in play.

0:53:07 > 0:53:14It's just outside the Scots '22. But have they played on and dropped it?

0:53:14 > 0:53:21Tim Nanai-Williams tries to go between a couple of defenders.

0:53:21 > 0:53:33Price is fishing for it. These little kicks are effective.

0:53:33 > 0:53:43David Lemi has the control. He's done really well David Lemi to

0:53:43 > 0:53:56buy himself time and space in a few metres, as well.

0:53:59 > 0:54:11There's a trend developing for Andrew Marr with that turnover.

0:54:25 > 0:54:34-- Marfo.

0:54:36 > 0:54:42A free ball, Chris. Yeah, I'd like to see them keep it

0:54:42 > 0:54:46in hand and challenge. Nic Berry played the long advantage in the

0:54:46 > 0:54:56opening minutes. That ball's been disrupted. He'll come back for a

0:54:56 > 0:55:00penalty. Price thinking about it again with

0:55:00 > 0:55:13Finn Russell. Ali Price chatting away as a good

0:55:13 > 0:55:20scrum-half does. Always barking at the forwards ahead of him. He is so

0:55:20 > 0:55:27quick. He's on fire for Glasgow. Beaten more defenders than anyone

0:55:27 > 0:55:33else in the Pro14. Despite only playing under 300 minutes. So sharp

0:55:33 > 0:55:39with the ball in hand. And here is his flatmate and friend, Finn

0:55:39 > 0:55:51Russell. He's just sending that ball between

0:55:51 > 0:55:55the uprights. It is vital for the Scottish.

0:55:55 > 0:56:0113-3. Samoans have looked surprising ball

0:56:01 > 0:56:07in hand. Lots of class players but the Scots have turned them over.

0:56:07 > 0:56:12I think as there are so many good individuals. And sometimes getting

0:56:12 > 0:56:18further into the defensive line. And it allows the Scotland's defensive

0:56:18 > 0:56:24players to get in and win the turnovers.

0:56:24 > 0:56:27Scotland have been trying to contain and look after possession and clear

0:56:27 > 0:56:36the lines. William Nel, and Price with the kick

0:56:36 > 0:56:40again to Tuala. Taken down by Jones.

0:56:40 > 0:56:57Lam, leave it is for Pele Cowley. Owen says he's had enough of this.

0:57:04 > 0:57:12-- Ioane. Lay, his brother is on the bench.

0:57:12 > 0:57:20The two of them moved down to their new club together.

0:57:20 > 0:57:26It's another penalty. Scotland are putting a lot of pressure on.

0:57:26 > 0:57:34A good tackle from Jonny Gray. John Barclay was penalised for not

0:57:34 > 0:57:40rolling away. If you are a tackler or an assist tackler, you have to

0:57:40 > 0:57:47roll from the ball as quick as you can. To get up and out of the way as

0:57:47 > 0:57:52quick as possible to promote free flowing attack and keeping an eye on

0:57:52 > 0:57:57the referee, as soon as he tells you hands off, you have to do that and

0:57:57 > 0:58:07get away.

0:58:08 > 0:58:18Leiataua with the target.

0:58:27 > 0:58:28Ioan earthquake ises having a great game.

0:58:28 > 0:58:34Here he is. Perez at nine.

0:58:34 > 0:58:37A counterruck by the Scots and another penalty.

0:58:37 > 0:58:47Taken quickly.

0:58:49 > 0:58:56Piula Fa'asalele, the big number two. Here are the crowd, thinking

0:58:56 > 0:59:00this could go Samoa's way. And they are up to the line and claiming the

0:59:00 > 0:59:05try. Well this is a little task for the

0:59:05 > 0:59:19TMO, isn't it?What's the question, Nic Berry.

0:59:24 > 0:59:33Is it a try, yes or no? Well, let's look at the angles. It is

0:59:33 > 0:59:37aggressive. Is this the Samoans getting back on

0:59:37 > 0:59:46the scoreboard?I think it is over the line.

0:59:46 > 0:59:50I think it's down. I think at the end of that, if we

0:59:50 > 0:59:58can see it a little bit quicker, it is number four, Josh Tyrell. On his

0:59:58 > 1:00:03debut. On the other angle it looks as if he was under control of the

1:00:03 > 1:00:06ball. Let's have a look at this. I hear

1:00:06 > 1:00:11that they have slowed this down for everybody. Tyrell, has the ball

1:00:11 > 1:00:17under control, he's over the line... Does the point of the ball touch the

1:00:17 > 1:00:24ground? I think it does.It doesn't matter what you think, or me...I

1:00:24 > 1:00:29have a decision, you may award the try.

1:00:29 > 1:00:34Well, it's a try for Samoa.

1:00:34 > 1:00:39And this game which we thought was going Scotland's way very much

1:00:39 > 1:00:43showing some of the Samoan talent just kept that ball moving, Chris.

1:00:43 > 1:00:55It was direct. Lam carried it. The hooker made in roads. It was just

1:00:55 > 1:01:01Tyrell who kept the ball under control. Some great camera work and

1:01:01 > 1:01:04managed to convince us and the referee and the television match

1:01:04 > 1:01:10official that it was a try. They were under the posts and the

1:01:10 > 1:01:15anything number four, Tyrell took his time, but just that power got

1:01:15 > 1:01:25over the line. And it's a 3 point game.

1:01:32 > 1:01:36Scotland are trying to keep the tempo in the game. Stewart McInally

1:01:36 > 1:01:44with a quick throw.Well, that was fascinating. Two very quickly taken

1:01:44 > 1:01:57line-outs. Watson with the charge. The game has picked up in tempo.

1:01:57 > 1:02:07McInally into a Samoan sandwich. Marfo. Price again. Around the

1:02:07 > 1:02:22corner they come. Wilson. McInally involved. Another carry. Nel. You

1:02:22 > 1:02:43can hear the call for pick and go. Watson.Just a little knock-on. I

1:02:43 > 1:02:49think it was Hamish Watson. Just unfortunately for him. We go back to

1:02:49 > 1:02:52that Samoan try and we are talking about the speed that Scotland are

1:02:52 > 1:02:55trying to bring to the game. That was a quick penalty from Samoa in

1:02:55 > 1:03:00the shadow of the post as well. So, they have signed up to the

1:03:00 > 1:03:05entertaining game, the quick tempo. It is a try score there.Well, there

1:03:05 > 1:03:09is a um can of New Zealand medical journal papers about islanders

1:03:09 > 1:03:14comparing them to the rest of the population and the islanders in New

1:03:14 > 1:03:20Zealand compared to the average, carry 11% more lean skeletal muscle

1:03:20 > 1:03:26and have 6% more bone mineral content. There is power and this

1:03:26 > 1:03:31just demonstrated much of what they're good at.Here is a quick tap

1:03:31 > 1:03:37penalty in the shadow of Scotland's posts. Jonny Gray makes a tackle.

1:03:37 > 1:03:41Scotland are scrambling because it's so quick to try and stop the power

1:03:41 > 1:03:45that's coming through and then the pass comes from Pele Cowley. He just

1:03:45 > 1:03:51shifts it from the break down out to Tyrell. That pass there. It allows

1:03:51 > 1:03:55space for Tyrell to use that strength and the power to drive

1:03:55 > 1:04:11forward with the help of Lee.

1:04:20 > 1:04:24Donald Brighouse on this side of that Samoan scrum has his own

1:04:24 > 1:04:29channel on YouTube. He has not played many games at tighthead. He's

1:04:29 > 1:04:38a big unit. He is up against another big unit. So this is the key area.

1:04:38 > 1:04:41Tighthead props are incredibly valuable in world rugby. If you can

1:04:41 > 1:04:53hold your tight hand up, your team can attack.

1:04:54 > 1:05:04He did.

1:05:08 > 1:05:12Hogg. Brilliant take.

1:05:16 > 1:05:24Marfo. McInally. Tried to feed it on. Price. Winning the ball with

1:05:24 > 1:05:29just one or two bream in Break Down. Wilson. I think he thought he was

1:05:29 > 1:05:34coming on a dummy line.It was a late pass, wasn't it, for Finn

1:05:34 > 1:05:37Russell. So often those are the delayed passes are the ones that

1:05:37 > 1:05:42break the line. It was almost half a dummy from Russell and then the

1:05:42 > 1:05:45delayed pass. Wilson will be disappointed not to take that, but

1:05:45 > 1:05:51he's such a good quality handler, he won't let that get to him. The

1:05:51 > 1:05:57skipper gets his pack in and Stuart Hogg tells him what he has seen from

1:05:57 > 1:06:12the back.Double.Double the distance. He is maybe going to have

1:06:12 > 1:06:26to leave us.Well, Scots about 61%.

1:06:34 > 1:06:40Zander Fagerson will replace him. He is a man with experience. A big,

1:06:40 > 1:06:45strong forward. He works so hard around the field. He carries hard.

1:06:45 > 1:07:06He tackles hard. He takes the field in the place of WP Nel.

1:07:06 > 1:07:12Well, Scotland have lost just one of their ten encounters with Samoa. One

1:07:12 > 1:07:18eight, drawn one and that was in 2013. And Samoa won by 10 points if

1:07:18 > 1:07:26Durban. -- in Durban. The game is tight just now and the 10 point

1:07:26 > 1:07:30victory in 2013, the only game in the last five meetings between these

1:07:30 > 1:07:37two sides to be decided by more than 7 points. The last outing was at the

1:07:37 > 1:07:42Rugby World Cup 2015, St James' Park. A late Greg laid law try. Four

1:07:42 > 1:07:48tries to Samoa and three to Scotland that day. A lot of damage from the

1:07:48 > 1:07:56boot as well. It's another tight one here.Good pressure, Tim

1:07:56 > 1:08:02Nanai-Williams. Turned over. Given it to Stuart Hogg. Diagonal kick.

1:08:02 > 1:08:13Chased by Jones. Tim Nanai-Williams screams back as does Paul Perez.

1:08:13 > 1:08:17That's a good decision for Stuart Hogg. The hooker had a cracking game

1:08:17 > 1:08:20and I thought he was going to take a quick 22. Stuart Hogg resisting the

1:08:20 > 1:08:25temptation to run there and finding the space in behind the Samoan line.

1:08:25 > 1:08:29That's mature play from Stuart Hogg. Unfortunately for him the ball just

1:08:29 > 1:08:36rolled over the try line. It's a... Well, let's...

1:08:43 > 1:08:47Jones. Jones does well. He just avoided

1:08:47 > 1:08:53contact. Price looks up. Has Toolis. Toolis had a bunch of bodies with

1:08:53 > 1:08:57him. Russell sneaks through. The Scots are trying to win the ball

1:08:57 > 1:09:08with just one or two people at Break Down. Jonny Gray. Hogg in from 15.

1:09:08 > 1:09:15Can they get the offload away? Intercepted by Tim Nanai-Williams.

1:09:15 > 1:09:18He had a good game, Tim Nanai-Williams. Again, these are

1:09:18 > 1:09:32quick plays. Russell. What a game. Price. Hogg skips it. To Jones.

1:09:32 > 1:09:40Jones. Jones. Jones! Huw Jones. Oh, what a score!

1:09:40 > 1:09:45Everything was quick. The quick line-out. The quick hands and the

1:09:45 > 1:09:54shimmy and the haund off. Delightful try. Huw Jones scores almost every

1:09:54 > 1:09:59time he takes the feel and it was about pace and power. Into Finn

1:09:59 > 1:10:03Russell and Russell does well to keep the ball alive and get out of

1:10:03 > 1:10:09the contact. Hogg gets himself to first receiver. Zips out an

1:10:09 > 1:10:16excellent pass. To Huw Jones and Huw Jones is so quick. His feet are so

1:10:16 > 1:10:20dangerous. Perez stands off and that's an open invitation for Jones

1:10:20 > 1:10:28to use his speed and power and score a brilliant finish in the corner.

1:10:28 > 1:10:32Huw Jones, good score.Well, he has not had the ball in his hands too

1:10:32 > 1:10:37often, Huw Jones. He collected a couple of kick-offs and made a few

1:10:37 > 1:10:42yards and this is his first opportunity to attack. His footwork

1:10:42 > 1:10:47is so good. He drove through two tackles and got Scotland's second

1:10:47 > 1:10:53try.A bit of a test for Hugh Russell. Left touchline. He has been

1:10:53 > 1:11:03successful. Look at the crowd. Look at the kick. Just to the right. Of

1:11:03 > 1:11:16the post. There is 18-10. You can see the difference, can't you?

1:11:16 > 1:11:21Gregor Townsend, it's quicker line-outs. Little passes. Try to win

1:11:21 > 1:11:26the ball with fewer people at ruck time.It is quick. It's tempo and

1:11:26 > 1:11:30the longer the game goes on, the harder that is to do, but the more

1:11:30 > 1:11:34benefit you will have if you are the more kind of fitter and stronger

1:11:34 > 1:11:40team. But there is always a danger against a team like Samoa. Tim

1:11:40 > 1:11:52Nanai-Williams.Pa A good game today. To Russell. Price. Price.

1:11:52 > 1:12:00Everything at speed. McInally. Watson. Price has bodies to the

1:12:00 > 1:12:25left. Toolis. Price. Ferguson. Fagerson.

1:12:25 > 1:12:29Well, Scotland went into this game with injury issues upfront

1:12:29 > 1:12:35especially at prop. They have another one because WP Nel hasn't

1:12:35 > 1:12:38gone off for a head injury assessment. I am told they think he

1:12:38 > 1:12:46has fractured his fore arm. That's an unlucky break. He has had so many

1:12:46 > 1:12:50injuries, hasn't he?If he has fractured a fore arm, it shows what

1:12:50 > 1:12:58these guys are made of. These guys are tough. If you fracture your fore

1:12:58 > 1:13:01arm and walk off shaking your head, it's incredible. In the match

1:13:01 > 1:13:06programme he talks about coming from a small village, 200 people, small

1:13:06 > 1:13:10school, didn't play rugby until he was in his late teens and then

1:13:10 > 1:13:15suddenly found that he was a prop to be reckoned with. Started off as a

1:13:15 > 1:13:19hooker and key to Scotland, hasn't he? He has been key.He has been for

1:13:19 > 1:13:23Edinburgh and Scotland as a try scorer and tighthead prop as well,

1:13:23 > 1:13:29but we wish him well if that's the case.

1:13:29 > 1:13:43Perez.It was fed back inaccurately between the two players. Watch this.

1:13:43 > 1:13:52Piula Faasalele. Perez is on it and rightly so.We talk about important

1:13:52 > 1:13:57moments and important times in a match. The five minutes before and

1:13:57 > 1:14:01after half-time are always hugely crucial. For Scotland if they can

1:14:01 > 1:14:06get their set piece dominant, they can launch an attack. It could have

1:14:06 > 1:14:10a big bearing on the game that mistake. They did well to cover it,

1:14:10 > 1:14:14but they will have to defend with the crowd at Murrayfield getting

1:14:14 > 1:14:22behind their team too.

1:14:23 > 1:14:37Price. Free-kick to the Scots.

1:14:50 > 1:15:00Jordan Lay.

1:15:06 > 1:15:15This is the nuts and bolts.

1:15:17 > 1:15:22You can put a stable platform before the ball comes in and the referee

1:15:22 > 1:15:29manages that process now. Driven by safety, but you want the guys to be

1:15:29 > 1:15:33as close as possible so they can't charge at each other. Touch in and

1:15:33 > 1:15:39just fold in and then the pressure comes in when the ball comes in.We

1:15:39 > 1:15:46should remind people, Stuart Hogg in scoring that try saw him become

1:15:46 > 1:15:50Scotland's joint try scorer with Gregor Townsend. Penalty for

1:15:50 > 1:16:02Scotland.I think we might see another scrum here. He is making

1:16:02 > 1:16:06sure he knew what the penalty was, but the decision is to go to the

1:16:06 > 1:16:10line. I thought they would go for a longer scrum. It the clock is in

1:16:10 > 1:16:15red. It's over 40 minutes. Last year that would have been game over, but

1:16:15 > 1:16:20now, you can kick a penalty and then play from there.McInally. Taken by

1:16:20 > 1:16:28Toolis. He is being used a lot. And this could be the grind. 18-10 the

1:16:28 > 1:16:33score. They are driving forward. He tries to hold them back. Price is

1:16:33 > 1:16:47thinking of taking it. Samoa has done well. It's a try for Scotland.

1:16:47 > 1:16:53And a bit of a dust up as well. It looks as if Stewart McInally.

1:16:53 > 1:16:57McInally was just piloting that ball at the back. Stayed in his position

1:16:57 > 1:17:09and the men in front helped him across.

1:17:09 > 1:17:18There was disappointment in that ball. McInally had his hands on it.

1:17:18 > 1:17:22The discipline not to breakaway and go for the line on your own, it's so

1:17:22 > 1:17:27difficult to do when you're so close. He stays with his unit. As a

1:17:27 > 1:17:32team and as a pack, Scotland drive over and get the third try.Credit

1:17:32 > 1:17:37to McInally. Edinburgh taught him much about the work of a hooker. So

1:17:37 > 1:17:45we are in extra time first-half. 10 point lead. Finn Russell. He has

1:17:45 > 1:17:54enjoyed his partnership with Price. And Russell just brings the half to

1:17:54 > 1:18:00a close. An extraordinary first 40 minutes.A really enjoyable first 40

1:18:00 > 1:18:07minutes as well. The first Autumn International here and Finn Russell,

1:18:07 > 1:18:14a few tries for Scotland. A kick through by Finn Russell and followed

1:18:14 > 1:18:22on by the sharp, Tommy Seymour. Huw Jones was brilliant and McInally

1:18:22 > 1:18:30scored Scotland's third. Samoa had a sky scored and they will be happy

1:18:30 > 1:18:33with the possession they had, but disappointed with the territory.

1:18:33 > 1:18:40Scotland are looking sharp.It's half-time, the score is Scotland 25,

1:18:40 > 1:18:47Samoa, 10.

1:18:49 > 1:18:54Plenty of tries in that first-half. Stuart Hogg got things going early

1:18:54 > 1:19:01on with the 17th try of his Scotland career equalling the best. And then,

1:19:01 > 1:19:07a bit bitty. It went quiet, but Samoa were awarded. Josh Tyrell

1:19:07 > 1:19:13there. Huw Jones as well, the centre, making it his fifth in nine

1:19:13 > 1:19:20tests. What a force he is going to be and then over they went, McInally

1:19:20 > 1:19:25to make it three tries to Scotland. Let's have a look at the stats and

1:19:25 > 1:19:29see if they back up that story. Well, it was interesting because

1:19:29 > 1:19:32beforehand Dan you were saying it was going to be an offloading game

1:19:32 > 1:19:36for Samoa. He hoped that was going to be the way they set themselves

1:19:36 > 1:19:40up. They went for territory and possession and certain periods of

1:19:40 > 1:19:44the game, possession was higher than the 54%, but they had six offloads

1:19:44 > 1:19:47to Scotland's two, but as the game went on, Scotland got more into it.

1:19:47 > 1:19:51They managed to disrupt Scotland a little bit. It wasn't quite the

1:19:51 > 1:19:56speed of rugby perhaps that Gregor would have enjoyed. He will be

1:19:56 > 1:19:59pleased with the scoreline at half-time, but maybe not the

1:19:59 > 1:20:02performance. In patches, you have seen the pace and the offloading

1:20:02 > 1:20:08game, but they have not put any sustained phases together. So it has

1:20:08 > 1:20:13been a bit bitty, they have not got that tonne it continuity and the

1:20:13 > 1:20:17game never flowed. You need two teams for that, but they will be

1:20:17 > 1:20:22pleased 25-10 up at half-time.What will the mood be in the Samoan

1:20:22 > 1:20:27dressing room? They came out to play and they have done that well. We've

1:20:27 > 1:20:31picked a side that's low to the ground, not much height. Their

1:20:31 > 1:20:34offloading game as we spoke about and they are close to the line, but

1:20:34 > 1:20:37struggled at the line-outs, they will be talking about that and

1:20:37 > 1:20:44fixing that up in the changing rooms now, I'm sure.Did you see the game

1:20:44 > 1:20:49plan? Was it being executed there?I think so. Scotland will be happy

1:20:49 > 1:20:52with the score, but it has been scrappy at times. It's the first

1:20:52 > 1:20:56game of a new series. It takes longer, but Scotland trying to be

1:20:56 > 1:20:59positive which is brilliant to see. A couple of quick line-outs. A

1:20:59 > 1:21:03couple of counter attacks by Finn to hold the Samoan defence and put it

1:21:03 > 1:21:09behind them and I think 25 points, Scotland will be happy with that and

1:21:09 > 1:21:13enter the dressing room at half-time and try and reassess.Stuart Hogg

1:21:13 > 1:21:18kept them going within a couple of minutes. What a start. He had a

1:21:18 > 1:21:22disrupted summer with injury and was sent back from his Lions experience.

1:21:22 > 1:21:29He looks different. He has lost weight, hasn't he? He seems sharper?

1:21:29 > 1:21:38He is ripping up trees with Glasgow. I think he will have enjoyed his

1:21:38 > 1:21:43first 40 minute ins international rugby and it is in turn over ball

1:21:43 > 1:21:47that Gregor's team gets excited. Unstructured defence and a great

1:21:47 > 1:21:51turn over there. But then with the bounce of the rugby ball, you just

1:21:51 > 1:21:56need to take a chance. It is a good kick by Finn. Tommy Seymour kicks

1:21:56 > 1:22:00over beautifully. This ball can go anywhere as it bounces over the head

1:22:00 > 1:22:06into Stuart Hogg. He will not get an easier try, but you have got to buy

1:22:06 > 1:22:14the raffle ticket to have a chance of winning the prize. Russell puts

1:22:14 > 1:22:18the ball in that area of uncertainty. That ball can go in.

1:22:18 > 1:22:22Tommy Seymour does well and after that that, it is the bounce the

1:22:22 > 1:22:33rugby ball can sometimes go for and sometimes it doesn't. It goes into

1:22:33 > 1:22:48Stewart's hands. The lads have been giving him stick for the new figure.

1:22:48 > 1:22:53He has got a bad haircut. If he could sort that out, that would be

1:22:53 > 1:22:58good. It is credit to Hoggy. He works hard on his game. He loves his

1:22:58 > 1:23:04rugby and he is talking about his speed. He has done tremendously well

1:23:04 > 1:23:07and get the ball in his hands more and he will probably grab another

1:23:07 > 1:23:13try today. There was just that one try away and suddenly the score

1:23:13 > 1:23:18lines closed in together and Samoa took the advantage or seized the

1:23:18 > 1:23:26moment when they had the chance? It came down to a penalty here. A quick

1:23:26 > 1:23:31work play and that's why Samoa need to lift the tempo and play more. Run

1:23:31 > 1:23:35these breakdowns. They are a low squat team and good technically in

1:23:35 > 1:23:39the pick and go. Those are the sorts of areas we need to be playing more

1:23:39 > 1:23:47rugby in.Taking the opportunity when they had the penalty because

1:23:47 > 1:23:51the boot working particularly well for them. The body angles were very

1:23:51 > 1:23:55good. Scotland's defence is not doing anything wrong. They are quite

1:23:55 > 1:24:00low, but sometimes the referee does a block in there, but there is good

1:24:00 > 1:24:04leg drive to get across the line to finally close down. What we see

1:24:04 > 1:24:09here, he gets over the line. Can you see the ball going down? No, but you

1:24:09 > 1:24:09know it has

1:24:09 > 1:24:11see the ball going down? No, but you know it has done. You can see just,

1:24:11 > 1:24:16that's where it comes down, before before it, Gabby, I think there is

1:24:16 > 1:24:21an incident with Piula Faasalele who starts with the quick penalty. The

1:24:21 > 1:24:27referee gave it and it was the right try, but before it, Piula Faasalele

1:24:27 > 1:24:35came in and I thought using the shoulder. The penalty has been

1:24:35 > 1:24:40given. Marfo is over the ball. That's been penalised a lot. Going

1:24:40 > 1:24:45in out of control. Then he gets up and takes the quick penalty as if to

1:24:45 > 1:24:49think the referee might penalise me here, I will start the game quickly.

1:24:49 > 1:24:53I think that maybe should have been called back for the shoulder. If he

1:24:53 > 1:24:58was going to have a vantage point he had it, didn't he?Yes, he did, but

1:24:58 > 1:25:03these things happen so quickly. It is Nic Berry's first international

1:25:03 > 1:25:09match today. He has done a good job. It happens fast and credit to the

1:25:09 > 1:25:15Samoans.Dan is being quite quiet at the moment?I think I will use that

1:25:15 > 1:25:18tactic! LAUGHTER

1:25:18 > 1:25:22And then Huw Jones who, we of course, talked about pre-match and

1:25:22 > 1:25:26now his try rate for internationals, five in nine, that makes it. He is

1:25:26 > 1:25:30going to be some force on the stats, isn't he? He will be challenging

1:25:30 > 1:25:33Stuart Hogg. This is the ambition that Scotland are playing at. They

1:25:33 > 1:25:40get the ball. Stuart Hogg throws it in there to Finn Russell and takes

1:25:40 > 1:25:51it forward and they recycle it well and we didn't see a lot of this. But

1:25:51 > 1:25:54you just think, Huw Jones, this doesn't look like this should be a

1:25:54 > 1:25:59try. Perez misses the tackle, but when somebody has got the confidence

1:25:59 > 1:26:03with the try line then they just find a knack of getting there. It

1:26:03 > 1:26:06was a great finish.A lovely offload there as well and Scotland playing

1:26:06 > 1:26:11at this point in the game, you can see the fast tmp owed rugby that

1:26:11 > 1:26:15Gregor said he wants. He wants them to be the quickest team in the world

1:26:15 > 1:26:18and there were glimpses of that. T-Scotland have taken the

1:26:18 > 1:26:27initiative. There is a Samoan player marking the quick line-out and the

1:26:27 > 1:26:36killer ball was from Ali Price. Hoggy shifted it to Huw. Perez will

1:26:36 > 1:26:40be disappointed with his tackle. Players in space with a hand on

1:26:40 > 1:26:47ball. Difficult to defend. McInally going over, but Samoa will be

1:26:47 > 1:26:51disappointed with this line-out. This was after they got a scrum

1:26:51 > 1:26:59penalty. I was saying to Greg would you go scrum or line-out? They get

1:26:59 > 1:27:03good control. McInally is at the back. You think Price has taken it

1:27:03 > 1:27:08away. McInally said no, no, I'm going over. That kick came from a

1:27:08 > 1:27:12Samoa line-out that they should have been able to control. So at 18-10,

1:27:12 > 1:27:17that's probably a good score for Samoa. 25-10, and that's just the

1:27:17 > 1:27:22game might have just been taken away. In a moment of madness when

1:27:22 > 1:27:25the Samoan number eight threw the ball to nobody. It led to the

1:27:25 > 1:27:32penalty. Led to the line-out and led to the try.For me, that's a

1:27:32 > 1:27:35composure thing and composure comes from knowing and trusting president

1:27:35 > 1:27:38guys around you. We don't have the build up. The guys only came into

1:27:38 > 1:27:43camp eight days ago. That's really reflected in the set piece of the

1:27:43 > 1:27:48line-outs. Scotland is doing a good job of speeding up the set piece and

1:27:48 > 1:27:52Samoa have got a big job on their hands to really try and reign that

1:27:52 > 1:27:57in.Thank you. Earlier this week, the rugby community was out

1:27:57 > 1:27:57in.Thank you. Earlier this week, the rugby community was out in

1:27:57 > 1:28:05force. This summer, the devastating news was delivered by Dodi Weir that

1:28:05 > 1:28:09he has motor neurone disease. The rugby community rallied. 1300 people

1:28:09 > 1:28:14turned out for a dinner, including 150 rugby players. It was a great

1:28:14 > 1:28:25tribute to the big man.Rugby man. Scotland international.

1:28:25 > 1:28:37A professional. It is a degenerative muscle issues. It closes down the

1:28:37 > 1:28:44body so you can't speak, can't eat, can't limp, walk, talk, the only

1:28:44 > 1:28:51muscle that's left maybe one that you can see, so you have to chun

1:28:51 > 1:29:03kate withure eyes. When Doddie rang me, he was laughing

1:29:03 > 1:29:10about it. He said stop that, get on with it.He is never down. He is

1:29:10 > 1:29:14always positive and that's brilliant in a man like Dodge.With this

1:29:14 > 1:29:18issue, you don't know what your timetable is, it could be five weeks

1:29:18 > 1:29:23or ten years. Who knows what's around the corner. I was diagnosed

1:29:23 > 1:29:26in December last year. The professor said I couldn't walk into his

1:29:26 > 1:29:30surgery a year after. That's given me a goal to prove these people

1:29:30 > 1:29:39wrong.

1:29:39 > 1:29:45We set a trust up for my good lady, the family and others.

1:29:45 > 1:29:53The focus is where the nations can come forward and find support for

1:29:53 > 1:30:04this. Everybody is celebrating Donnie, you

1:30:04 > 1:30:09can see the people, the rugby players, the ex-rugby players. He's

1:30:09 > 1:30:12a good man.

1:30:12 > 1:30:17a good man. It is just unbelievable It was great

1:30:17 > 1:30:24the support from the rugby community and wider. We are here for him. With

1:30:24 > 1:30:28a dreadful diagnosis, he needs a lot of support. We need to support his

1:30:28 > 1:30:31family and to support the foundation.

1:30:31 > 1:30:37Quite by accident he has almost become the figure head. And globally

1:30:37 > 1:30:41as well. It is the love and the affection for the big man.

1:30:41 > 1:30:47I have to make a difference. That is what I would like to do, to fight.

1:30:47 > 1:30:56There is no known cure. One drug in 21 years for people with MMD, so I

1:30:56 > 1:31:03want to raise awareness of this awful condition.

1:31:03 > 1:31:09I'm here to continue this fight. I was at an event with him last week

1:31:09 > 1:31:17in Newcastle at his club. He spoke there very well. Yes, we are all

1:31:17 > 1:31:21pulling with him, that he can fight this.

1:31:21 > 1:31:25He's just cracking on, getting MMD out there, so that hopefully, some

1:31:25 > 1:31:31day, one day may be saved. He said himself, it may not come quick

1:31:31 > 1:31:35enough for him but if it can save somebody else it is a big part of

1:31:35 > 1:31:43what is happening here. Family man...Frazer...Fighter...

1:31:43 > 1:31:51An inspiration to everybody...My goal is to get a cure. To show aware

1:31:51 > 1:31:59Miss As well, to provide a cure, to put more money in. It will be

1:31:59 > 1:32:05brilliant if I'm here to annoy you for many a year.

1:32:05 > 1:32:11An incredibly emotional evening on Monday night. But he is such an

1:32:11 > 1:32:15inspiring, huge and joyful character, Doddie, it is impossible

1:32:15 > 1:32:21to keep that spirit down. Everybody in the room was relieved to see that

1:32:21 > 1:32:28spirit there in abundance. As we said, we didn't want to be

1:32:28 > 1:32:33there but for Doddie, it is all about the awareness of MMD, to find

1:32:33 > 1:32:38a cure. He is so self-depricating. He stole the show while you were

1:32:38 > 1:32:43trying to host it. It was a remarkable night. All of

1:32:43 > 1:32:50our wishes are with him.A real testament to what an incredible

1:32:50 > 1:32:59family rugby is, when they are needed they all come together.

1:33:00 > 1:33:05Will there be more tries in the next 40 minutes? Will the game get a bit

1:33:05 > 1:33:12more of a rhythm? Will Stuart Hogg become Scotland's top try scorer of

1:33:12 > 1:33:20all time? John Beattie will be helping answer those questions for

1:33:20 > 1:33:27you. Thank you. And Doddie is here at

1:33:27 > 1:33:31Murrayfield, and we wish you well, Doddie.

1:33:31 > 1:33:39Murrayfield, and we wish you well, Doddie.

1:33:41 > 1:33:51Great territory in the first half. Sparkling attack.

1:33:51 > 1:33:58Stuart Hogg picked Ofwatson. They have it wide.

1:33:58 > 1:34:10Watson carries. Knocked by Ioane.

1:34:22 > 1:34:26Not quite the same structure from the men in blue. Tim Nanai-Williams

1:34:26 > 1:34:38to Lee Jones, left-wing. I think that it was held and lost

1:34:38 > 1:34:42there, as he broke free from that tackle. A delayed pass again from

1:34:42 > 1:34:46Finn Russell. Close to the defenders. It was dislodging the

1:34:46 > 1:34:52tackle. Allister had it.

1:34:52 > 1:34:57Was it Piula Fa'asalele on the blind side.

1:34:57 > 1:35:11We saw a Samoa kick but no advantage given.

1:35:15 > 1:35:23This try before half-time, is always crucial.

1:35:23 > 1:35:26Let's see how Scotland and Samoa react.

1:35:26 > 1:35:30Tim Nanai-Williams, you are right, they are kicking more.

1:35:30 > 1:35:40Tommy Seymour...

1:35:50 > 1:35:56Ping-ponging this than the first half.

1:35:56 > 1:36:01Russell, confidence, whoa, Finn Russell, what a boy! Price! Ali

1:36:01 > 1:36:07Price, up into the opposition 22. Stays on the ground.

1:36:07 > 1:36:14A whole stack of white jerseys. Gray is left to Russell. What an attack!

1:36:14 > 1:36:20Finn Russell!I think he had an invisible cloak on there. The kick

1:36:20 > 1:36:28was too long. He had lots of time to pick up and look for options. He

1:36:28 > 1:36:37found a way. Off loading to Toolis, who has been astounding.

1:36:37 > 1:36:42The defence got back and covered from this pass. Zipping it out to

1:36:42 > 1:36:49How Jones. Good counterattack, good intent from Scotland.

1:36:49 > 1:37:01Four man line-out. Successful, The Samoans have given the Scots a

1:37:01 > 1:37:08line-out in their own 22. That's five pieces of possession,

1:37:08 > 1:37:12and they've kicked every single one of them.

1:37:12 > 1:37:16They are trying to get territory and put pressure on Scotland.

1:37:16 > 1:37:22Toolis and Berkeley have been the main line-out men. I think many

1:37:22 > 1:37:28would think that Johnny Gray would be the target. Barclay, barking at

1:37:28 > 1:37:35his team-mates! Penalty advantage, Price. It's a free ball. Russell

1:37:35 > 1:37:55with the short ball. Dunbar is hit. Gray makes the vital yard or two.

1:37:56 > 1:38:01Wilson in the back. Finn Russell has the ball in his

1:38:01 > 1:38:13hand. It's a quick penalty. There is a small matter of a mild

1:38:13 > 1:38:17disagreement. Maybe they just didn't want Finn to

1:38:17 > 1:38:26take it quickly. This is what happened off the ball.

1:38:26 > 1:38:36Stuart McInally, and Fonotia, and Rey Lee-Lo... Oh, he's got a cut.

1:38:36 > 1:38:40As a result Scotland can't take it quickly, they will go to the

1:38:40 > 1:38:52line-out where they were successful at the end of the first half.

1:38:53 > 1:38:57Stuart McInally there, ready to get the ball in quickly. No hanging

1:38:57 > 1:39:05around. Not hanging around at all.

1:39:05 > 1:39:10Chris Vui is there, number five, sneaking around the corner. Keep

1:39:10 > 1:39:14going says Price and the white jerseys get closer. They've got a

1:39:14 > 1:39:20penalty, I think they've got a try! It's another try! And I think this

1:39:20 > 1:39:25could be Stuart McInally. Stuart McInally, sealing what has

1:39:25 > 1:39:31been a commanding performance with two tries!Absolutely. It's been

1:39:31 > 1:39:35excellent. Difficult to play so quickly and get the ball so quickly.

1:39:35 > 1:39:40The throw was good, the catch good, the drive took time to set up but

1:39:40 > 1:39:46then this was only going one way to the line. A finish, waiting for the

1:39:46 > 1:39:50gap, he drives and explodes through towards the line.

1:39:50 > 1:39:54You can see Stuart McInally at the back. He is a converted wing

1:39:54 > 1:40:00forward. And then look at the leg drive. Well done.

1:40:00 > 1:40:05Both his tries have been excellent in terms of continue youity and the

1:40:05 > 1:40:09teamship. But the final has been excellent.

1:40:09 > 1:40:13The discipline to wait for the first try. And the aggression to drive

1:40:13 > 1:40:20when he sees the space. And two figures doing ahead of the

1:40:20 > 1:40:25ball, doing the blocking, the hard yard. Here is Finn Russell.

1:40:25 > 1:40:35Oh, he's enjoying his kicking today. He gets another two points on the

1:40:35 > 1:40:46scoreboard. Not to harp on about it but we spoke

1:40:46 > 1:40:50about it, that's three tries Scotland have scored in a ten minute

1:40:50 > 1:40:56window. Impressive stuff. Samoa have to look to win possession

1:40:56 > 1:41:01back in Scotland territory and bring some of the spark into their

1:41:01 > 1:41:08attacking that we saw earlier on in this match.

1:41:08 > 1:41:26Well, there's Stuart McInally, we saw him first a few years ago.

1:41:26 > 1:41:32He is a good leader. A good captain. His discipline is outstanding. He

1:41:32 > 1:41:36has to get there, get the ball and get it in. It is different to what

1:41:36 > 1:41:41he is used to in previous games. He has to execute the call and the

1:41:41 > 1:41:54throw. He is playing well, certainly, Stuart McInally.

1:42:06 > 1:42:13A bit more bite to this team. A little off load.

1:42:13 > 1:42:19Ioane, out wide to the right. Inside. David Lemi off the

1:42:19 > 1:42:31left-wing. Narrow but making ground. Tim Nanai-Williams, no, it's not,

1:42:31 > 1:42:36it's Fonotia. Again, these are Samoans smashing

1:42:36 > 1:42:46up. There's the try lean.

1:42:46 > 1:42:57Chris Vui tackled by Watson.

1:42:57 > 1:43:03Another pick and go, this time by Donald Brighouse. Is he over the

1:43:03 > 1:43:17line? That could be a score. He thinks he's got it. This is Piula

1:43:17 > 1:43:25Fa'asalele, number 8. Chris, the Samoans in the pick and

1:43:25 > 1:43:37go, well they have made ground?Yes.

1:43:38 > 1:43:42George Clancy there said he didn't get a grounding.

1:43:42 > 1:43:50But the pick and go has worked well. It is how Samoa have worked a try.

1:43:50 > 1:43:55This is Piula Fa'asalele trying to get to the line. There is a boot

1:43:55 > 1:44:01underneath that. Ali Price's hands there. And Berkeley comes in. All

1:44:01 > 1:44:07you have to do is touch a blade of grass. And here we are, a decision.

1:44:07 > 1:44:12He doesn't need the other angle. We're going show you the other

1:44:12 > 1:44:18angle. But two series of pick and goes and two tries for Samoa. They

1:44:18 > 1:44:22desthefsh try. It is similar to the first try that

1:44:22 > 1:44:27they scored. I don't think it is quite as conclusive as the first

1:44:27 > 1:44:35one. There is a foot underneath the hand of John Berkeley. It is so, so

1:44:35 > 1:44:40close but the try has been given. It's been awarded and it is similar

1:44:40 > 1:44:44to the first one. Fa'asalele did well to see the space

1:44:44 > 1:45:00and attack it. 50 minutes gone.

1:45:00 > 1:45:07There's a try scorer there. There was space to pick up the ball.

1:45:07 > 1:45:26But he had the strength to get over. Good take by Tyrell.

1:45:26 > 1:45:36And there's a replacement at scrum-half.

1:45:36 > 1:45:54Matavao is on at 21.Trying disrupt the breakdown.

1:45:54 > 1:46:01We spoke about the team, Melani Matavao coming on, was the only

1:46:01 > 1:46:07Samoan based player in the squad, playing in the Super 9 domestic

1:46:07 > 1:46:21competition. Hisa Sasagi is coming on too.

1:46:21 > 1:46:29He is replacing Donald Brighouse.

1:46:32 > 1:46:37Stuart McInally at the back again. Couldn't take it quickly because of

1:46:37 > 1:46:41substitutions. He's done well, Chris Vui. Coming

1:46:41 > 1:46:56through the middle of that lot. Good defence by Samoa, isn't it?

1:46:56 > 1:47:03Congratulating each other. Chris Vui, right through the middle.

1:47:03 > 1:47:07It was perfectly legal. His hands on the ball. Even though on Scotland's

1:47:07 > 1:47:14side. There was a ball. No need to roll away as it was not a

1:47:14 > 1:47:21tackle, it was a maul. And quite rightly, it's a maul when it's a

1:47:21 > 1:47:27turnover. Good hard work from the Samoans.

1:47:27 > 1:47:32There is Chris, he got his big hands on the ball and stopped it coming

1:47:32 > 1:47:41out.

1:48:13 > 1:48:18This has slowed the tempo down. With spoke about the speed of the game.

1:48:18 > 1:48:26This is maybe astute playing from the Samoans to disrupt that flow of

1:48:26 > 1:48:32Scotland. Well, a solid scrum from Samoa.

1:48:32 > 1:48:43Taken up by Lam.

1:48:47 > 1:48:52Oh, Stuart Hogg! Stuart Hogg, what a break.

1:48:52 > 1:49:01But, accord tolling the ref, he's not happy!Samoa looking to take it

1:49:01 > 1:49:08quickly. But it looked a decent kick-chase from Samoa.

1:49:08 > 1:49:11He's saying that eight shifted off his position. Let's watch this. You

1:49:11 > 1:49:20call it. So, Ryan Wilson and number 8 and

1:49:20 > 1:49:23number 5. He doesn't have to change his line.

1:49:23 > 1:49:28He doesn't have to get out of the way but he can't move towards the

1:49:28 > 1:49:31Samoan captain to stop him from making the tackle.

1:49:31 > 1:49:35Well done that man. He's going to keep the ball.

1:49:35 > 1:49:48He's going for a counter attack. He is off.

1:49:54 > 1:49:59There is Ryan Wilson. I saw an article, when he is playing, he goes

1:49:59 > 1:50:06to work. No prisoners, he goes to work.

1:50:06 > 1:50:11Scotland have won 12 linouts, the Samoans have won five. A good

1:50:11 > 1:50:20drive-by Samoa. Taken by the loose head prop, Lay.

1:50:20 > 1:50:27Perez off the wing. Hisa Sasagi on the pitch.

1:50:27 > 1:50:33Turnover by Watson. That's where you earn your money. Price looks up and

1:50:33 > 1:50:42take as little break. Ally price, a dangerous attack.

1:50:42 > 1:50:49Good play by both teams. It was looking like Samoa would make the

1:50:49 > 1:50:53more ground after the first and second try but that man there,

1:50:53 > 1:50:57Hamish Watson, got his timing spot on. A window of opportunity. A

1:50:57 > 1:51:02fraction of a second or him to get in. He got in ahead of Piula

1:51:02 > 1:51:09Fa'asalele and won the turnover. There is no point in going in early,

1:51:09 > 1:51:17or you are penalised from coming in at the side.

1:51:17 > 1:51:25Look at that the Scots have won 12 of their observe lineouts.

1:51:25 > 1:51:30Back to Watson, he knows he's not billing but he says that having the

1:51:30 > 1:51:37low centre of gravity works for him. He is tremendously strong. And here

1:51:37 > 1:51:51is another strong player. Matu' u. You want to keep out of the

1:51:51 > 1:51:58way of him. He's a big man. Samoa with a bit more zip to them

1:51:58 > 1:52:08now.

1:52:09 > 1:52:13Stuart Hogg carries that ball. Berkeley with a kick through for Lee

1:52:13 > 1:52:24Jones. Samoa to run it from here.

1:52:32 > 1:52:45Game today! Full of explosions and running.

1:52:57 > 1:53:03A good phase of play there. Scotland coming out with territory. Fatigue

1:53:03 > 1:53:10is starting to come in. So long play like that will be what Gregor

1:53:10 > 1:53:20Townsend wants his players to do. There they are quickly quickly away

1:53:20 > 1:53:26again. Listen to the crowd. They're loving

1:53:26 > 1:53:32this. A great game of rugby. A great turnover by Samoa.

1:53:32 > 1:53:42Well done.

1:53:44 > 1:53:53Here's a big moment for three players in the Scottish jersey.

1:53:53 > 1:53:58That was quite a tackle. Once they are down, it is difficult

1:53:58 > 1:54:03to move a player off that ball. As long as they are supporting their

1:54:03 > 1:54:09own body weight, they can hold on to that ball and win the turnover.

1:54:09 > 1:54:13There is Tommy Seymour, not so happy. In a minute four players are

1:54:13 > 1:54:21coming on the pitch. Two to win their first caps.

1:54:21 > 1:54:27Three of them to win their first caps!It's a big moment, isn't it?A

1:54:27 > 1:54:32huge moment. Left to right, George Turner,

1:54:32 > 1:54:37Cornell Du Preez, Jamie Bhatti and the man that walked out of the shot

1:54:37 > 1:54:41was Chris Harris. A big moment for these lads. A lot of trust in them.

1:54:41 > 1:54:50On they come. So number 17 coming on.

1:54:50 > 1:55:01It's Jamie Bhatti.

1:55:14 > 1:55:23Slaughterman in Bridge of Allen. A really big moment for the players

1:55:23 > 1:55:35coming on and for the players coming off.

1:55:41 > 1:55:48Wait until you see Harris run. Knocked on by How Jones. Love it

1:55:48 > 1:55:54when they put a tackle in. And the other guy replaced was

1:55:54 > 1:55:59Stuart McInally, two tries in a really good game in and around the

1:55:59 > 1:56:06set piece. This is Chris Harris. He plays outside, centre, full back,

1:56:06 > 1:56:15wing. He is on the wing.

1:56:15 > 1:56:19He does architecture at university. Eligible for Scotland because of a

1:56:19 > 1:56:24grandmother from Edinburgh. And there is Jamie Bhatti and George

1:56:24 > 1:56:32Turner. A big moment for Jamie Bhatti bat. He's only been a

1:56:32 > 1:56:41professional since the summer. As you say, he worked in an

1:56:41 > 1:56:47abattoir. He said through the week, a year ago today he was not a

1:56:47 > 1:56:57professional player and here he is and hopefully a moment's come.

1:56:57 > 1:57:05So, what was the Edinburgh front row, as been replaced by the Glasgow

1:57:05 > 1:57:15Warriors front row.

1:57:31 > 1:57:37Melani Matavao to Lemi off the left-wing. Melani Matavao has

1:57:37 > 1:57:51Fa'asalele around the corner. There is the penalty.

1:57:59 > 1:58:03Again, the referees quick on the call. As soon as you make the

1:58:03 > 1:58:07tackle, you have to get out of the way to promote the quick play of the

1:58:07 > 1:58:15ball. We likes a spectators, we want to see a quick play of rugby. George

1:58:15 > 1:58:23Turner is known for his physicality. Scotland are looking to wrestle

1:58:23 > 1:58:30control back of the game. Obviously Samoa scored last. They have had a

1:58:30 > 1:58:38little successen in the pick and go. Ioane is coming off.

1:58:38 > 1:58:49The last Test was June 2016. A revelation that Sale is being

1:58:49 > 1:58:55replaced by Trevor Nyakane. He started in a win over Scotland in

1:58:55 > 1:59:072013. So a few changes.

1:59:08 > 1:59:19So, Treviranus has the ball. Oh, Samoa! Right up to the Scottish

1:59:19 > 1:59:25line there. Is the blue jerseys. More of that pick and go. They are

1:59:25 > 1:59:31hammering at the door. Is there anybody there to protect the line?

1:59:31 > 1:59:35Another pick and go. Tim Nanai-Williams! Oh, Tim

1:59:35 > 1:59:41Nanai-Williams! Just went through like a surgeon's knife! Well he

1:59:41 > 1:59:49skipped by his cousin, Sony Bill but skipped through the white jerseys of

1:59:49 > 1:59:52the Scottish defence did Tim Nanai-Williams. One of the great

1:59:52 > 1:59:59rugby players lighting up the field. He has been on fire that Number 10

1:59:59 > 2:00:05jersey. It's a good pass. A wide pass. He has the incission and the

2:00:05 > 2:00:11speed to get over the line. He's a wonderful ball player and talent,

2:00:11 > 2:00:27Tim Nanai-Williams. He got that after direct play.

2:00:27 > 2:00:33Tim Nanai-Williams, and Bundiyaki grew.in the same find, one is

2:00:33 > 2:00:36playing for Samoa, one is playing for Ireland. And Tim Nanai-Williams

2:00:36 > 2:00:41has the mark of sheer quality. Here he goes.

2:00:41 > 2:00:49Converts his try.

2:00:49 > 2:00:54It was well scored and most teams when they go close to the line, keep

2:00:54 > 2:01:00the ball in there. They don't roll the dice with the risk of going

2:01:00 > 2:01:03wider. The pass came out to Tim Nanai-Williams and he sliced through

2:01:03 > 2:01:06and scored near to the post.No hanging around with the kick off

2:01:06 > 2:01:11either. Kicked out field. Scotland trying to

2:01:11 > 2:01:21keep the ball in play.

2:01:28 > 2:01:36Cornell Du Preez, number 20, is on. Jones has done well to skip by the

2:01:36 > 2:01:42first couple of tackles. Longer ball too. A brand-new front rower in the

2:01:42 > 2:01:55shape of Turner.Yes, good decision. More consistency from Nic Berry. A

2:01:55 > 2:02:01good tackle from the Samoans. I think it is number 18 that went off

2:02:01 > 2:02:06his feet in around the contact.A corner.It is consistent refereeing.

2:02:06 > 2:02:12Let the ball be there to be played. Drops another corner and I wonder if

2:02:12 > 2:02:25we will see another drive? Nic Berry is saying that the Samoan player was

2:02:25 > 2:02:47lying on a player.Turner then. Yes, Pete Horne coming on as is Pyrgos.

2:02:47 > 2:02:52They played their part. New Zealand next week, of course.Yes, they

2:02:52 > 2:03:00played their part. Sharp as ever. A lot of experience coming on between

2:03:00 > 2:03:11Pyrgos and Horne.Pyrgos wants it. Pyrgos gives it to Horne. To Huw

2:03:11 > 2:03:28Jones. The other forwards are into a ruck. Pyrgos to Du Preez. Very well

2:03:28 > 2:03:33structured. A little kick ahead from Horne and it has jumped into Jones'

2:03:33 > 2:03:46hands. Alex Dunbar! Oh, a delicate kick it was from Horne. Jones, Jones

2:03:46 > 2:03:55was there and Dunbar using all that effort powered over. There were some

2:03:55 > 2:03:58beautiful pieces of detail and execution in this. Scotland go

2:03:58 > 2:04:04forward and when it came out to Horne, the attacking kick. Jones.

2:04:04 > 2:04:08Watch this, he picks up the loose ball. He is under pressure and pops

2:04:08 > 2:04:14it in. The power from Alex Dunbar. There is beauty in that and there is

2:04:14 > 2:04:19brawn and when you put it together, you get a cracking try!Dunbar has a

2:04:19 > 2:04:23lot to do. Oh crikey, he is in between two. Watch this, Dunbar gets

2:04:23 > 2:04:28the ball. He has to go through Piula Faasalele who turns, Piula Faasalele

2:04:28 > 2:04:35lines them up. Dunbar threw a good score. I'm told this is a sell-out

2:04:35 > 2:04:42crowd. I think Gabby said that before, but we have got a sell-out

2:04:42 > 2:04:49crowd of 67122. I'm not sure that's a sell-out. 67144. That's the

2:04:49 > 2:04:57capacity. So sell-out crowd and Horne runs back after what was a

2:04:57 > 2:05:03delicate kick.It was a really nice attacking kick. Left foot, of course

2:05:03 > 2:05:09and the pick up from Lay Jones and the awareness under pressure and

2:05:09 > 2:05:13Dunbar drove over the line for Scotland's fifth try.What's your

2:05:13 > 2:05:21take, Chris? This is a sell out crowd of 67,000. I think they were

2:05:21 > 2:05:26selling tickets for £1 for children? I think it's great. New Zealand and

2:05:26 > 2:05:29Australia were sold owl in July. Three three sold out for the autumn

2:05:29 > 2:05:37internationals. Fantastic work. And they are being repaid with a pretty

2:05:37 > 2:05:43good Scottish performance. That's the offload almost up there. In goes

2:05:43 > 2:05:47Kieron Fonotia. Oh, that's another try, I think. Well, they all think

2:05:47 > 2:05:53they've scored. Is that Kieron Fonotia, the big centre?

2:05:53 > 2:06:01I think it is.The kick off wasn't taken. It was more to the sub hooker

2:06:01 > 2:06:06made really good in-roads. That's the line there. From here, it is a

2:06:06 > 2:06:12really quick pick and go. It is Kieron Fonotia. Getting in

2:06:12 > 2:06:16there before the defence. It comes from momentum. That line breaker.

2:06:16 > 2:06:22Let's see it again. Then the offload. After Scotland scoring

2:06:22 > 2:06:26their fifth try, Samoa score a fourth within a couple of minutes.

2:06:26 > 2:06:38This game is not over. That's Hisa Sasagi. It is the hooker and the

2:06:38 > 2:06:45offload back to Matavao. Here is the reaction in the Samoan

2:06:45 > 2:06:56coaches' box. I thought it would be more than that. A good score.

2:06:56 > 2:07:00Chris, what a game we have here. Scotland look to be dominating and

2:07:00 > 2:07:05running away with it. And now we are in a 6 point game with 11 minutes

2:07:05 > 2:07:17left. A big cut there. He had a great game. Cardiff centre. He has

2:07:17 > 2:07:22had a good game. He is dangerous and experienced. He has defended well

2:07:22 > 2:07:25and worked well with Kieron Fonotia in the centre. As you say John,

2:07:25 > 2:07:31Samoa are right back into this game. As you say they've changed their

2:07:31 > 2:07:35tactics, Samoa. They have kicked from their own danger area. They

2:07:35 > 2:07:41have kicked far more. Haven't won a huge amount of ground with some of

2:07:41 > 2:07:44their kicks, but they are transferring the pressure back to

2:07:44 > 2:07:58Scotland and Scotland's tries have come... It's a great throw from

2:07:58 > 2:08:02George Turner, but the ball was lost. There is a real zip to the way

2:08:02 > 2:08:09that Samoa are playing now. Tim Nanai-Williams. Quickly taken by

2:08:09 > 2:08:14Scotland. Hogg. Hogg skips out of that big tackle. Skips out of three

2:08:14 > 2:08:24tackles. Gives the ball to Watson. Good rucking. Counterattacking. You

2:08:24 > 2:08:38can't counterattack wide. The Blues are all onside. Pyrgos wants them

2:08:38 > 2:08:47closer. I think that's Jamie Bhattie. Fagerson rucking. Du Preez

2:08:47 > 2:08:57just stays on the left-hand side. Chip ahead by Pyrgos.

2:08:57 > 2:09:01They say every game is three car crashes for every player, but this

2:09:01 > 2:09:08game is brutal.A tough, brave and physical. I think the physicality

2:09:08 > 2:09:14and intensity is ramped up in the second half. The first 40, opening

2:09:14 > 2:09:19international rugby for these guys. Matavao with a kick. Horne. Jones.

2:09:19 > 2:09:25The crowd love it when he has got the ball. That was a cut inside. We

2:09:25 > 2:09:37just saw Harris come off his wing. He was looking for the short ball.

2:09:37 > 2:09:41Chris Jones has not got a lot of space, but the intensity has risen

2:09:41 > 2:09:46in the last four or five minutes here as the score gets closer. We

2:09:46 > 2:09:52have seen nine tries. Huw Jones is one of the try scorers and gets in

2:09:52 > 2:09:56the outside arc again and a shot ball to Chris Harris. He is marked

2:09:56 > 2:10:01well and the ball goes into touch. Well, more substitutions. We have

2:10:01 > 2:10:13got Tim Swinson on. We have got Faatiga Lemalu on. Tim Swinson,

2:10:13 > 2:10:266'4", but he plays for than his height, Swinson.

2:10:29 > 2:10:46A good shift from Ben Toolis. He makes his vital two or three meters.

2:10:46 > 2:10:57Matavao at 9. That's a loose kick. Hogg. Is smashed.It was well taken

2:10:57 > 2:11:03by Stuart McInally. It is difficult to -- Stuart Hogg.Pyrgos to Du

2:11:03 > 2:11:10Preez. Pyrgos looks left. They've opened it up a bit. Horne. Oh,

2:11:10 > 2:11:15Jones. Hugh Jones every time he gets the ball, he makes yards. Jonny

2:11:15 > 2:11:28Gray. Pyrgos. Dunbar. Bhattie, Jamie Bhattie, another carry. Quicker ball

2:11:28 > 2:11:35to Horne. Horne to Hogg. Hogg to Wilson. Wilson did some abrasive

2:11:35 > 2:11:39tackles. There is a Simonian down mid-field. Out the back door. Horne.

2:11:39 > 2:11:49Oh, Dunbar. Gorgeous hands. Kick ahead. This is another chase. There

2:11:49 > 2:11:57is a whole stack of Scots up there. Jones. Peter Horne. Samoa do well to

2:11:57 > 2:12:24win this. Matavao. Real pressure. Du Preez. A long ball. Hogg. Hogg.

2:12:24 > 2:12:38Contact. Pyrgos and Du Preez again. Peter Hogg. Du Preez with a break at

2:12:38 > 2:12:45the offload. A Glasgow Warrior. Warrior with a try that was needed

2:12:45 > 2:12:51so badly.Fantastic try for Peter Horne and it's an important one for

2:12:51 > 2:12:56Scotland as well. That came from a long, long period where two touches

2:12:56 > 2:13:00from Cornell Du Preez. One was a one-handed take. That was his

2:13:00 > 2:13:05second. Back inside to Peter Horne working so hard on the inside to

2:13:05 > 2:13:09attack the space and have legs. That was a long pass to Stuart Hogg who

2:13:09 > 2:13:12started the counterattack. This was after a minute-and-a-half of play

2:13:12 > 2:13:17and we will see a great view here of Du Preez dropping to the first

2:13:17 > 2:13:20receiver. Knowing what he is doing. Knowing there is space on the inside

2:13:20 > 2:13:24and getting the call from Peter Horne and he got that 20 meters run

2:13:24 > 2:13:29in and dives over. Fantastic score for Scotland.That's a Gregor

2:13:29 > 2:13:33Townsend trademark, the ball nine to ten and the little inside ball on

2:13:33 > 2:13:38the drifting defence.Yeah, it comes from having the ability, but also

2:13:38 > 2:13:44the confidence to keep playing when you're fatigued, keep going, keep

2:13:44 > 2:13:56the ball alive and keep probing and the space will come.

2:14:01 > 2:14:05Well, there is Peter Horne. He made his debut off the bench in the

2:14:05 > 2:14:10defeat to Samoa in 2013. This is the try as you say, Chris, that little

2:14:10 > 2:14:18delightful inside pass from Du Preez. Horne pinned his ears back.

2:14:18 > 2:14:21Du Preez straightened up. He couldn't slide off him and he fed

2:14:21 > 2:14:32that soft touch inside to Peter Horne who raced by.

2:14:49 > 2:15:01Hisa Sasagi. Matavao.

2:15:02 > 2:15:06It has been solid defending. Matt Taylor will be happy in the coaches

2:15:06 > 2:15:21group. Lemalu. Picked and go. What a little try this is. Ofisa Treviranus

2:15:21 > 2:15:24ignored the plan. That's initiative, every time you think Scotland are

2:15:24 > 2:15:27creeping ahead this happens.Well, that's just an experienced try,

2:15:27 > 2:15:33isn't it? They have had a lot of success, Samoa. There is a big carry

2:15:33 > 2:15:37up the mid-field. Straight over the top of the ball. The first place you

2:15:37 > 2:15:43should try to defend and Ofisa Treviranus is very experienced and

2:15:43 > 2:15:48he knew the space was right over the top of the ball. Still the Samoans

2:15:48 > 2:16:01come back. That's their fifth try of the afternoon.

2:16:01 > 2:16:04Well, there is the man that just scored the try and this is how he

2:16:04 > 2:16:09did it.It's the speed of the pick and go. As soon as he is there, he's

2:16:09 > 2:16:12up and over. Hard to do when there is bodies in and around the body

2:16:12 > 2:16:18with skill to pick up full pace and will he get a bigger reaction this

2:16:18 > 2:16:28time? A wee bit!

2:16:44 > 2:16:51Tim Nanai-Williams. He has knocked the ball on. He is hurt in the

2:16:51 > 2:16:55process, Tim Nanai-Williams. Scotland had the ball. Swinson with

2:16:55 > 2:17:00the barge. Pyrgos screaming at his players to get around the corner and

2:17:00 > 2:17:06make the yards. One offload too many. There is a minute-and-a-half

2:17:06 > 2:17:18left. Yes, Samoa will win this match if they score seven points.

2:17:18 > 2:17:24Tim Nanai-Williams. He was out earlier on and plenty of Samoans out

2:17:24 > 2:17:40on the right. Piula Faasalele. A penalty to Samoa.That's a

2:17:40 > 2:17:43consistent penalty. He is looking for real, clean presentation of the

2:17:43 > 2:17:51ball. Getting away.Well, Chris, it is time for you to tell us who do

2:17:51 > 2:17:56you think is the Man of the Match? Well, there have, there were classic

2:17:56 > 2:18:04performances. The second half really ramped up.

2:18:04 > 2:18:09Tim Nanai-Williams for Samoa, but my Man of the Match is Scotland's

2:18:09 > 2:18:17number two, double try scorer, McInally. His basics around the set

2:18:17 > 2:18:21piece was outstanding. There he is, concerned about the state of score

2:18:21 > 2:18:28as we go into the last 20 seconds. The Man of the Match is Stuart

2:18:28 > 2:18:36McInally. It looks as if Tim Swinson has got

2:18:36 > 2:18:41himself there inn there. This is going to be a scrum to Scotland. We

2:18:41 > 2:18:47talk about all the play, but if you don't win your scrums, you don't win

2:18:47 > 2:18:50your line-outs, you don't win internationals.No, that's where

2:18:50 > 2:18:54little moments like that, the experience with Tim Swinson coming

2:18:54 > 2:18:57off the bench, swimming up the middle, to stop Samoa getting the

2:18:57 > 2:19:03release. It was outstanding from the experienced Glasgow Warriors second

2:19:03 > 2:19:10row. Scotland will be happy with so many parts of the game, but

2:19:10 > 2:19:20disappointed to lose five tries. The Samoans are a dangerous outfit.I

2:19:20 > 2:19:23think Pyrgos knows what he wants to do which is get this ball up the

2:19:23 > 2:19:30park. It has been co-ordinated performance from Gregor Townsend's

2:19:30 > 2:19:40first game in charge at Murrayfield. Samoa have got to try to win this

2:19:40 > 2:19:43scrum. They have got to do everything to win this scrum. Yes,

2:19:43 > 2:19:48and also just as we saw at the end of the first-half, if a penalty is

2:19:48 > 2:19:57awarded to Samoa, they are entitled to kick to the corner. Even though

2:19:57 > 2:20:00the clock is in red. So if Scotland can have discipline in their scrum

2:20:00 > 2:20:07and get the ball to the field, that's it over. They have been so

2:20:07 > 2:20:10brave and courageous that they have come back and met every single

2:20:10 > 2:20:20challenge. Let's see what the dying seconds bring them.Vital scrummage.

2:20:20 > 2:20:28It looks as though the Scots have it. Henry hir goes puts the ball off

2:20:28 > 2:20:32the pitch and I know one person who will be delighted, that's that man

2:20:32 > 2:20:38on the left, Gregor Townsend. A great player. Now as a coach of

2:20:38 > 2:20:44Scotland, he presides over a team that he took a gamble. He put all

2:20:44 > 2:20:50his subs on but, they have beaten the Samoans:It is a fantastic

2:20:50 > 2:20:58victory for Scotland. 11 tries and four new caps on his side, but there

2:20:58 > 2:21:02will be moments he won't be happy. Scotland extend their winning run at

2:21:02 > 2:21:11Murrayfield to five games in a row. It is their best record. Up next,

2:21:11 > 2:21:18the All Blacks. The final score, Scotland 44, Samoa 38.

2:21:18 > 2:21:20the All Blacks. The final score, Scotland 44, Samoa 38.

2:21:20 > 2:21:24These two teams when they meet, you can guarantee there will be some

2:21:24 > 2:21:30points. 82 today and an impressive performance and comeback from Samoa,

2:21:30 > 2:21:33Dan, there was a point where it could have gone either way and it

2:21:33 > 2:21:39looked like Scotland after ten minutes might have run riot.I'm

2:21:39 > 2:21:42proud of the performance the boys put in today for their families and

2:21:42 > 2:21:48for our people back at home after the week they've had. To turn up and

2:21:48 > 2:21:52put in that heart. Money can't buy that sort of performance. Saying

2:21:52 > 2:21:59that, I think, you know, a bit more support is something they would like

2:21:59 > 2:22:06to win.A nation very pleased with itself. And Gregor Townsend,

2:22:06 > 2:22:13Scotland are on great run. This is the kind of run they haven't had

2:22:13 > 2:22:18since 88, 89.Really good. I don't think Gregor will be particularly

2:22:18 > 2:22:21happy with the performance. The guy walking behind him in that shot

2:22:21 > 2:22:26there is Matt Taylor, the defence coach won't be happy, I don't think

2:22:26 > 2:22:31with the overall structure. 30 points conceded. It seemed any time

2:22:31 > 2:22:35that Samoa got inside Scotland's 22, they scored and that's not what you

2:22:35 > 2:22:39want.Let's hear from the Man of the Match, Stewart McInally who is with

2:22:39 > 2:22:43Sonia. Stewart, are you having to pinch yourself a little bit, two

2:22:43 > 2:22:47tries in only your fourth start for Scotland on Gregor Townsend's first

2:22:47 > 2:22:51home game. It is not a bad way to go?Delighted with the win. It is a

2:22:51 > 2:22:55benefit from the work the forwards do in front of me and luckily I am

2:22:55 > 2:23:00at the back. We're massively pleased to win. We scored 44 points which is

2:23:00 > 2:23:04great, but there will be a lot to work on going into next week.

2:23:04 > 2:23:08Regular hookies, Brown and Ford not here. Have you surprised yourself

2:23:08 > 2:23:15with how well it has gone for you today? It's a hard question. I'm

2:23:15 > 2:23:18just really pleased to be playing, you know, I didn't play for Scotland

2:23:18 > 2:23:22last year. For me, it's a great feeling to be here in front of a

2:23:22 > 2:23:27sell out crowd. It is a record crowd against Samoa, so we appreciate

2:23:27 > 2:23:32everyone come we are pleased we could get the win.You have got

2:23:32 > 2:23:36Richard working for you at Edinburgh. How much is he helping

2:23:36 > 2:23:41you evolve as a hooker? It is great. He put a lot of faith in me and it

2:23:41 > 2:23:44has helped my game massively. I'm really enjoying it at Edinburgh and

2:23:44 > 2:23:50it is great to take that to Scotland as well.Congratulations, you are

2:23:50 > 2:23:53the Eden Mills Man of the Match. Cheers. He had his first

2:23:53 > 2:23:57international try in the first-half and his second in the second half,

2:23:57 > 2:24:02Stewart McInally. Richard took him from flanker to hooker and today, he

2:24:02 > 2:24:08has given himself a great platform to make a stake, hasn't he?I have

2:24:08 > 2:24:12been really impressed with Stewart McInally for many years, but he

2:24:12 > 2:24:16never really had the chance. He made that conversion a number of years

2:24:16 > 2:24:21ago. Andy Robinson was the coach that got him there and it's

2:24:21 > 2:24:27vindicated. At the start of the second half, it was 20-10. This was

2:24:27 > 2:24:31a couple of minutes into the second half. It is really good structure,

2:24:31 > 2:24:35the forwards got into good shape. We said in the studio, it is a try.

2:24:35 > 2:24:39Right there, we knew it was coming because there was no way Samoa could

2:24:39 > 2:24:43stop it, at that point the conversion was made 32-10, the game

2:24:43 > 2:24:48was done. We said this is where Scotland would pull away, fair play

2:24:48 > 2:24:52to Samoa coming back, but good control. McInally in the pocket

2:24:52 > 2:24:56there with the control in front of him and drove over. At that stage it

2:24:56 > 2:25:01was easy time for Scotland. But like you say, every time Scotland scored,

2:25:01 > 2:25:04Samoa came back and every time there was an opportunity, they capitalised

2:25:04 > 2:25:08on a mistake that led to it from Scotland. Piula Faasalele with the

2:25:08 > 2:25:14comeback try then to just put Samoa back into the game.Yes, I think,

2:25:14 > 2:25:17you know, again it is great determination and heart. It is

2:25:17 > 2:25:22probably questionable whether he got the ball down or not. But again it's

2:25:22 > 2:25:26that pick and go and the conversion rate in this position of the field

2:25:26 > 2:25:33was really good from the Samoans. I thought we weren't in the zone

2:25:33 > 2:25:39enough. That comes back down, pushing, whether they got it down

2:25:39 > 2:25:42there or not. The benefit of the doubt has to go with the attacking

2:25:42 > 2:25:47team! Yeah, why not?If this game was the

2:25:47 > 2:25:51semi-final of a Rugby World Cup with five minutes to go, we would be more

2:25:51 > 2:25:56up and arms about that decision. We are sometimes critical when we spend

2:25:56 > 2:26:00too long at the TMO. They could have done with another couple there. That

2:26:00 > 2:26:05want conclusive. This was another one. This is Samoa did this very

2:26:05 > 2:26:08very well the whole game. Scotland were expecting this, but then it

2:26:08 > 2:26:12goes out and Tim Nanai-Williams, you know, Chris Harris has come out of

2:26:12 > 2:26:16line, his debut. He has flown out, if you fly out, you have got to do

2:26:16 > 2:26:19something and he didn't do anything really and it was a good try.Yes,

2:26:19 > 2:26:23it was. As you said before, Mark Taylor will be disappointed. You

2:26:23 > 2:26:31look at the numbers around the ball, it put Harrison, you have got to

2:26:31 > 2:26:34take man and ball, but he was in a difficult situation. Coming back to

2:26:34 > 2:26:37Dan, every time Samoa were in the Scotland's 22, they came away with

2:26:37 > 2:26:43the point.Alex Dunbar for Scotland and showing great strength here.

2:26:43 > 2:26:47There have been a number of attacking kicks that Scotland did

2:26:47 > 2:26:53very well. This is Peter Horne. If you're kicking in the 22 it has to

2:26:53 > 2:26:58hit the ground. If it is caught, it can be marked. Jones got the ball

2:26:58 > 2:27:00and offloaded to Alex Dunbar who showed

2:27:00 > 2:27:02and offloaded to Alex Dunbar who showed incredible strength. Piula

2:27:02 > 2:27:07Faasalele is a big old unit, but Ali Dunbar bounces him off. That was a

2:27:07 > 2:27:10good reaction because that brought Scotland away again and in the

2:27:10 > 2:27:14studio we thought that's it, Scotland will pull away, but no, no,

2:27:14 > 2:27:20Samoa came back and made it a really competitive game.

2:27:22 > 2:27:27Matavao got them back into it?Yes, I think the boys did well, keeping

2:27:27 > 2:27:31the offload. Particularly late in the game and mixing it up and

2:27:31 > 2:27:36lifting the physicality and again it was a short range try, the pick and

2:27:36 > 2:27:39go in the zone. You have got to convert and then the boys did well

2:27:39 > 2:27:46here. These guys when they are playing an

2:27:46 > 2:27:50offloading game, you have got to have good body position and strength

2:27:50 > 2:27:53and technically really good tackles to stop them. All the tries have

2:27:53 > 2:27:56been really well worked and Scotland have not been able to do too much.

2:27:56 > 2:28:02This was a great try for Scotland because this is what Scotland want

2:28:02 > 2:28:07and Greg, Du Preez is off the bench and it is a great offload.A great

2:28:07 > 2:28:13offload. I think Samoa struggled to get out of their half and exit. If

2:28:13 > 2:28:18you kick Loosly to Hoggy, he can generate a kick ball. Cornell Du

2:28:18 > 2:28:23Preez is picking his head up and dumps the ball on the inside and a

2:28:23 > 2:28:27good finish by Horne. There is work to be done in defence, but Samoa

2:28:27 > 2:28:31played into their hands a little bit, didn't they? A slightly more

2:28:31 > 2:28:35astute team might not have quite played the game. They kept going for

2:28:35 > 2:28:40the kicks which weren't working.We didn't kick well today. Let's be

2:28:40 > 2:28:47honest. We counted the good kicks and there were two in the game.

2:28:49 > 2:28:52Work to be done for Gregor. Thank you guys for your contributions

2:28:52 > 2:28:57today. I enjoyed that. I'm sure the crowd enjoyed it too. More rugby to

2:28:57 > 2:29:04come on the BBC. We have Wales, Australia on BBC Two from 4.45pm

2:29:04 > 2:29:07today and England, Argentina is coming up this evening, highlights

2:29:07 > 2:29:15of that match at 7.30pm on BBC Two. So, the Gregor Townsend era at

2:29:15 > 2:29:20Murrayfield has begun. Three wins out of four now for the head coach.

2:29:20 > 2:29:23There is only the small matter of New Zealand next week. We will see

2:29:23 > 2:29:27you for that one. Goodbye.
