0:00:33 > 0:00:37The Autumn Internationals reach their conclusion as winter takes
0:00:37 > 0:00:42hold on a fourth consecutive Saturday for a Welsh zwaud depleted
0:00:42 > 0:00:45by injury and unavailability, but no xousz today this. Is a must win
0:00:45 > 0:00:49match for Warren Gatland's team. Perhaps it is a good job they are
0:00:49 > 0:01:03playing the one Southern Hemisphere side they do know how to beat.
0:01:03 > 0:01:10The routine of Leigh Halfpenny. It is over. We are all squaring it.
0:01:10 > 0:01:17Penalties for Wales. Wales have beaten South Africa by 12-6 and
0:01:17 > 0:01:24that's what it means to the Welsh players. The Principality Stadium at
0:01:24 > 0:01:39full blast. Out comes the drive. The breakaway. A try for South Africa.
0:01:39 > 0:01:46It is Cassiem who scores it. A beautiful pass. The footwork takes
0:01:46 > 0:01:54him over the line. And Wales have won by 27-13. And they have beaten
0:01:54 > 0:02:00South Africa convincingly. So what of today's Springboks? It is the end
0:02:00 > 0:02:04of a long, long season that included record defeats by New Zealand and
0:02:04 > 0:02:08Ireland and question marks hangover the team and the coaching staff. Ten
0:02:08 > 0:02:11years on from being world champions, South African rugby is searching for
0:02:11 > 0:02:20its place in the international pecking order. Well, for all the
0:02:20 > 0:02:25issues surrounding it game, and it was described as the most maligned
0:02:25 > 0:02:33match, a packed Principality Stadium. So, welcome once more.
0:02:33 > 0:02:40Seven days on from that fantastic, epic, memorable occasions against
0:02:40 > 0:02:47the All Blacks. Martin, how important is it for
0:02:47 > 0:02:52Wales to win this?I think it is imperative they win. They have had
0:02:52 > 0:02:55some positive performances, but whether you like it or not, you're
0:02:55 > 0:02:58going to get judged against the other home nations and what they
0:02:58 > 0:03:01have done. You look at England and Scotland and Ireland, really
0:03:01 > 0:03:06positive autumn series and if we lose again today, it will be the
0:03:06 > 0:03:10same old, same old excuses, but the win is the be all and end all.
0:03:10 > 0:03:15Jeremy?I think Wales, I think we have been too nice. I have been too
0:03:15 > 0:03:24nice. The reality is this autumn, performance and poor exit strategy.
0:03:24 > 0:03:29They created lots of opportunities to score against New Zealand. They
0:03:29 > 0:03:34had 15, 12, but the skill set suggests they are not quite good
0:03:34 > 0:03:37enough and if they are not good enough, you have got to start
0:03:37 > 0:03:40reaching deeper into the pool of players because of forced
0:03:40 > 0:03:43circumstances rather than the coaches going right, let's identify
0:03:43 > 0:03:52players. They are trying to identify in a way they can't.Today, maybe a
0:03:52 > 0:03:56benefit there is so many players missing, because they might discover
0:03:56 > 0:04:05a few jewels that they weren't expecting?Completely. We have got a
0:04:05 > 0:04:11player like Passion who is coming in. He is 30 years of age. Surely
0:04:11 > 0:04:14there is talent younger than that, that they can bring it.It is
0:04:14 > 0:04:19surprising that South Africa are as high up because they have had an in
0:04:19 > 0:04:23and out season. What do you make of what we have seen in the autumn
0:04:23 > 0:04:27internationals?They have been a microcosm of the hole year for South
0:04:27 > 0:04:32Africa because it has been inconsistent. To a minute. They were
0:04:32 > 0:04:35awful against Ireland. They got better, you know, in the matches
0:04:35 > 0:04:40leading up to what I think was a much better performance against
0:04:40 > 0:04:45Italy. So, they will probably sit there and say, if a few things had
0:04:45 > 0:04:50gone right against Ireland, you know, the people who are positive
0:04:50 > 0:04:53all the time would have said that and a couple of cynics would have
0:04:53 > 0:04:57said it was bad from the beginning and just because you beat France and
0:04:57 > 0:05:00Italy well, it doesn't make it a good end of year. This game just as
0:05:00 > 0:05:05much for South Africa will be crucial to end off the year on a
0:05:05 > 0:05:10high note.It is hard to explain why it is so many Welsh players who were
0:05:10 > 0:05:14playing last week aren't available this week because they play for
0:05:14 > 0:05:18English clubs. Because of injury, because of players not being
0:05:18 > 0:05:21available for selection, that's a Welsh 15 that could be taking the
0:05:21 > 0:05:26field today if everybody was available and in a way, in a funny
0:05:26 > 0:05:31kind of way, Martin, you might fancy that team to beat the one that's on
0:05:31 > 0:05:37the field of play?I fancy that team over the one going out. That's the
0:05:37 > 0:05:41one positive we win today. With all those guys missing, you are looking
0:05:41 > 0:05:46one step ahead for the Six Nations. The one positive from this autumn we
0:05:46 > 0:05:50have exposed new players to the highest level which the coaching
0:05:50 > 0:05:56staff seem to be reluctant over the last few years, there is a lot of
0:05:56 > 0:06:01absentees.Accepting the skill set and what the players are capable of
0:06:01 > 0:06:04is another one. We have to be more realistic about what we are watching
0:06:04 > 0:06:11on the feel. I used to love getting the ball. We all did. Scoring tries.
0:06:11 > 0:06:19Boy, we would let players have it if they lost balls. If we pinpoint 15
0:06:19 > 0:06:27Welsh players, you would say there is many Springbok internationals who
0:06:27 > 0:06:31are not available today? The management and the team have put the
0:06:31 > 0:06:35rules together which dictate you can't pick players that are overseas
0:06:35 > 0:06:37under a certain amount of caps unwillings you really, really need
0:06:37 > 0:06:41them! LAUGHTER
0:06:41 > 0:06:56I don't know how the rules work. So, I think South Africa are not doing
0:06:56 > 0:06:59themselves any favours being that inconsistent. Pietersen is scoring
0:06:59 > 0:07:06tries for Leicester. Leicester
0:07:06 > 0:07:10inconsistent. Pietersen is scoring tries for Leicester. Leicester. If I
0:07:10 > 0:07:17concentrated on that will all day, I would be very negative. I would say,
0:07:17 > 0:07:21there is five plus two or three others that are the future. They
0:07:21 > 0:07:30probably will be in three or four years time, they will play ahead of
0:07:30 > 0:07:35du Plessis.That's assuming they stay in South Africa.If they are,
0:07:35 > 0:07:41can we play them? Do we have to play games like that at the end of the
0:07:41 > 0:07:45season every year? Maybe. There are lots of Springbok fans in Cardiff. A
0:07:45 > 0:07:50few of them had a great month or so on a Northern Hemisphere tour going
0:07:50 > 0:07:56to Dublin, Paris. It must have been a confusing and frustrating journey
0:07:56 > 0:08:00because as Bobby was saying their performances have been inconsistent
0:08:00 > 0:08:04and unfathomable. If we look at the results for the Springboks
0:08:04 > 0:08:07throughout 2017, that couldn't be better illustrated by by the two
0:08:07 > 0:08:10record defeats against New Zealand and Ireland, but on the other hand,
0:08:10 > 0:08:13if you look at the second match against the All Blacks where they
0:08:13 > 0:08:17lost by a point, that was a heroic defeat when New Zealand scored with
0:08:17 > 0:08:21the last play of the game, but whatever, it cannot be easy being
0:08:21 > 0:08:29the Springboks coach. You are at the end of a long and at
0:08:29 > 0:08:31times difficult season for South Africa. How is morale against the
0:08:31 > 0:08:35players?Morale is very, very good in the camp, I must say. It has been
0:08:35 > 0:08:40a great year for us in many ways with the new group of players, only
0:08:40 > 0:08:44lost three from the 12 so far and tonight is an opportunity to finish
0:08:44 > 0:08:50on a good note. I think this game is between us having a fantastic
0:08:50 > 0:08:56Christmas holiday, you know, but no, look, we've developed well as a team
0:08:56 > 0:09:01during this year and we will learn lessons again and savr two good
0:09:01 > 0:09:08wins, one against France and Italy, that we are looking you cans make
0:09:08 > 0:09:14sure we get the W tonight. How tough is for you to concentrate on the job
0:09:14 > 0:09:17when there is speculation around your future?Speculation is the
0:09:17 > 0:09:23word. My focus is on this test and a great team environment. The boys are
0:09:23 > 0:09:29really enjoying themselves, you know, they're happy to be part of
0:09:29 > 0:09:35the Springboks. We have overseas based players who have been with us
0:09:35 > 0:09:38for two weeks and they are confident about the Springboks going forward.
0:09:38 > 0:09:43What have you seen in the wins over France and Italy that you hope to
0:09:43 > 0:09:46build on today against Wales? There are a few things that we have got to
0:09:46 > 0:09:49make sure we get right. Our discipline has to be outstanding. It
0:09:49 > 0:09:52will be a set piece battle against the Welsh, you know. We're here to
0:09:52 > 0:09:57win the Test Match. It's not about playing pretty and good entertaining
0:09:57 > 0:10:00rugby, it's to win a Test Match and we have spoken a lot about winning
0:10:00 > 0:10:04rugby over the last couple of weeks, so hopefully we can play in the
0:10:04 > 0:10:12right areas tonight and take opportunities.Thank you.Thank you.
0:10:12 > 0:10:16There is a really good atmosphere in here today and a certain positivity
0:10:16 > 0:10:19off the back of last week as well. We will talk about Wales in a moment
0:10:19 > 0:10:26or two. But that interview, if I was to say to you Bobby, that's one of
0:10:26 > 0:10:30the poisoned chalices of rugby, all the players being unavailable and
0:10:30 > 0:10:35having to factor in the fact that selection has to be tempered by the
0:10:35 > 0:10:39roe qa requirements. Is that a job that nobody really wants?Look,
0:10:39 > 0:10:41you've touched on two or three things there. Everybody wants to
0:10:41 > 0:10:46coach at the highest possible level, which is so right. It has got so
0:10:46 > 0:10:50many contributing factors that are out of your own control as the coach
0:10:50 > 0:10:54that it makes it so difficult to achieve. Alistair is one of the
0:10:54 > 0:10:58nicest guys of world rugby. He is a real team man. He has been in three
0:10:58 > 0:11:02or four coaching structures that I played with. He is a quality
0:11:02 > 0:11:06individual who understanding team culture which is rare these days,
0:11:06 > 0:11:11you know, and his search for excellence in the little things that
0:11:11 > 0:11:14his nines and tens are doing have always allowed him to achieve. Now
0:11:14 > 0:11:19he looks as if he is a man clinging on, holding on to some faint hope
0:11:19 > 0:11:22that a win here will keep him his job, you know and because of those
0:11:22 > 0:11:26contributing factors. Things like the quota system. We are at a young
0:11:26 > 0:11:29democracy. The rainbow nation was South Africa. Where are we now?
0:11:29 > 0:11:39Maybe we have got to repair some of the damages of apartheid. The seven
0:11:39 > 0:11:44aside team are 60% black and coloured players and achieving. You
0:11:44 > 0:11:51can't hide it. All of our colours, it doesn't matter, we are a mixed
0:11:51 > 0:11:54race, mixed integrated country, so I think this is about leadership from
0:11:54 > 0:11:58the coaching staff and leadership from the senior levels of South
0:11:58 > 0:12:01African rugby and that's what puts pressure on the people below them.
0:12:01 > 0:12:06They need to get this right.Almost a yes or no answer. If South Africa
0:12:06 > 0:12:09lose today, do you think the South Africa r South African coach loses
0:12:09 > 0:12:14his job?I'm not close enough to the corridors of power, but what I've
0:12:14 > 0:12:17heard, I would say it is almost definite if he loses today, he will
0:12:17 > 0:12:24be on his way. But to whom do you turn? They have got a new Director
0:12:24 > 0:12:28of Rugby. You never lose it, you just fire the coach and chuck
0:12:28 > 0:12:33someone else.He does have a captain as a rock that he can rely on and he
0:12:33 > 0:12:36is an extraordinary man and in terms of physique, he is a rock.
0:12:36 > 0:12:42Literally.Well, he throws rocks around and throws weights around. He
0:12:42 > 0:12:55is a big strong guy. He has a tremendous relationship with the
0:12:55 > 0:13:00players. About ten players from the opposition sprint towards him when
0:13:00 > 0:13:06he gets the ball and he loves the collision. A tremendous leader.I
0:13:06 > 0:13:10remember him breaking on the scene. He was a lot skinnier, six or eight
0:13:10 > 0:13:14kilos lighter than what he is now. He was athletic. He got around the
0:13:14 > 0:13:18park. He needs to develop his game. I couldn't agree more.He had it
0:13:18 > 0:13:22before.You look at the difference between him and the locks. Look at
0:13:22 > 0:13:26the size of the by accepts which is tremendous. I heard they have had to
0:13:26 > 0:13:31ship in new weights because in the different gyms that they were going
0:13:31 > 0:13:44to, the Springboks doesn't have enough to do his arm curls.Really?
0:13:44 > 0:13:52LAUGHTER You mentioned the relationship he
0:13:52 > 0:13:58players?He came from a background in a really poor Township. He played
0:13:58 > 0:14:02rugby at a local club where one of the coaches said, "Listen, this kid
0:14:02 > 0:14:06has got it." He got a scholarship and ended up being head boy of that
0:14:06 > 0:14:10school and he has come through and was captain and brought his own
0:14:10 > 0:14:13family and other families around him out of that township and contributes
0:14:13 > 0:14:18to the way they grow up. He is an absolute leader. There is a lot of
0:14:18 > 0:14:22pressure on him to be the Springbok captain. I like the fact that he is
0:14:22 > 0:14:27not yet because he has seven or eight years rugby in him. He is
0:14:27 > 0:14:31going to learn about the world and he could be one of South Africa's
0:14:31 > 0:14:36great rugby leaders.He is the symbol of transformation?Very well
0:14:36 > 0:14:41put. A tremendous guy off the field. He does the spot defence tackle
0:14:41 > 0:14:44close to the ruck which is something he is better than anyone else in the
0:14:44 > 0:14:47world.Let's move on to Wales. There is so much talk about the new Wales
0:14:47 > 0:14:52during the course of the autumn internationals. I wonder what
0:14:52 > 0:14:59Jonathan Davies made of the last three weeks, he is with Sonia. Let's
0:14:59 > 0:15:02talk Jonathan about Dan Biggar and the way Wales are looking to evolve
0:15:02 > 0:15:07their game. Is he the right fit at fly-half if they want to do that?
0:15:07 > 0:15:11Everyone knows what Dan brings to the side, but if they are going to
0:15:11 > 0:15:21evolve their game and play a more expansive game maybe I think
0:15:21 > 0:15:26Priestland are a better fit. Dan could play maybe 12, but he has Owen
0:15:26 > 0:15:31Williams. So I think that's maybe what you need to look at for the Six
0:15:31 > 0:15:36Nations.When you talk about who is going to play at 10 and 12 for eng.
0:15:36 > 0:15:44Much in the way, sorry, Wales, much in the way that England have stuck
0:15:44 > 0:15:52with their players.Their attack options comes from the full-back.
0:15:52 > 0:15:57They just pipe in all the time. If you're trying to play the style they
0:15:57 > 0:16:01are playing now, you need the attacking threat from the full-backs
0:16:01 > 0:16:08or Six Nations. Williams is back. George North is back and then the
0:16:08 > 0:16:1010, 12 axises will be crucial and the selection will be very, very
0:16:10 > 0:16:15interesting.Is there room for Leigh Halfpenny?Let's see happens.Thank
0:16:15 > 0:16:23you. This is the final chance to combine rugby with Christmas
0:16:23 > 0:16:27shopping. Yes, lots of players are missing, but when the chance to
0:16:27 > 0:16:31claim a really big scalp presents itself, the opportunity slips from
0:16:31 > 0:16:41their grasp as it did so agonisingly seven days ago.
0:16:41 > 0:16:5064 long years have passed since Wales beat these All Blacks.
0:16:50 > 0:17:00Wales take the lead. Here is danger. The All Blacks have been on the
0:17:00 > 0:17:04defensive, but here they go again. It is another brilliant finish by
0:17:04 > 0:17:17the winger. Williams for the line. What a try!
0:17:17 > 0:17:27Excellent work from Alun Wyn Jones. New Zealand stretch away. He read
0:17:27 > 0:17:34the pass and scores the try. The captain is off for ten minutes.
0:17:34 > 0:17:44Gareth Davies scores! But Wales are back in this. Oh, the
0:17:44 > 0:17:52speed. Brilliant. 30 games in succession, the All Blacks have done
0:17:52 > 0:17:56it again.Warren what's more important, the result or the
0:17:56 > 0:18:01performance?Both, I think. Look, it is important that Test Match rugby
0:18:01 > 0:18:08is about winning. We think we've played good rugby so far in the
0:18:08 > 0:18:12campaign and we have got to capitalise and turn it into points
0:18:12 > 0:18:17and get a win.We have seen a heavy defeat to New Zealand and losing to
0:18:17 > 0:18:21Ireland on this tour. What have you made of this team?I think they are
0:18:21 > 0:18:24like a lot of teams going through transition and everyone is thinking
0:18:24 > 0:18:26about the next two years and building to the World Cup and
0:18:26 > 0:18:32getting some depth. So, yeah, they have had a couple of disappointing
0:18:32 > 0:18:36performances, but a win against France was positive and a good win
0:18:36 > 0:18:42against Italy. What do you hope to see from Passion in the 12 jersey as
0:18:42 > 0:18:48Wales look to evolve the style of play?Staying connected with the 10,
0:18:48 > 0:18:53with the forwards. He brings a reasonable amount of experience. We
0:18:53 > 0:19:02are looking for a voice from him even though his first cap. He has
0:19:02 > 0:19:05experienced New Zealand Super Rugby and we are looking for the voice and
0:19:05 > 0:19:08being confident in the way he goes and plays.Good luck today.Cheers,
0:19:08 > 0:19:17thank you. Well, if this match was played
0:19:17 > 0:19:22tomorrow, Parkes would not have been available. He will wear the number
0:19:22 > 0:19:3012 jersey and becomes Wales' first centre Parkes! They have come. They
0:19:30 > 0:19:34have qualified or not. There has been the odd less than thorough
0:19:34 > 0:19:43background check. The Kiwi Welsh, long serving, still
0:19:43 > 0:19:49playing and the latest who qualifies by residency on this very day. When
0:19:49 > 0:19:53you came three years ago to Wales, was this part of a long-term plan?
0:19:53 > 0:19:58No, it wasn't. Things have just gone really well. I managed to play all
0:19:58 > 0:20:02right for the Scarlets and when I was looking at resigning, this time
0:20:02 > 0:20:05last year, there was whispers this might happen. This is a huge
0:20:05 > 0:20:10opportunity. So why wouldn't you, you know, have a shot?There are
0:20:10 > 0:20:17some who question the hole validity of the idea of somebody who spent
0:20:17 > 0:20:21three years in the country and plays international rugby?I can
0:20:21 > 0:20:24understand where they are coming from. You can't blame the player.
0:20:24 > 0:20:28It's an opportunity and it is a dream come true and it is a real
0:20:28 > 0:20:31privilege and honour to be able to go out there and wear the red jersey
0:20:31 > 0:20:35and represent the Welsh people.How is your Welsh coming along?It's
0:20:35 > 0:20:45coming along all right. Rhys has been teaching me the anthem. The
0:20:45 > 0:20:48pronunciation isn't the best.What will be your over riding emotion
0:20:48 > 0:20:52coming out of the tunnel? It is an achievement in itself, but it is
0:20:52 > 0:20:58very exciting, I guess. Look, it's something that I never thought would
0:20:58 > 0:21:01happen and to be given the opportunity from the management team
0:21:01 > 0:21:03and also the support from the players around me as well has been
0:21:03 > 0:21:12huge. So, I'm just really excited and just really get stuck in.
0:21:12 > 0:21:15Well, Martin, we have had this discussion many time over the years
0:21:15 > 0:21:19about residency. What's your take on this?I'm probably not the most
0:21:19 > 0:21:24balanced person to ask about this as somebody who lost their place to a
0:21:24 > 0:21:31New Zealander flanker in 1990 who had no eligibility or criteria. The
0:21:31 > 0:21:35three year rule is wrong. It is too short. You can't blame the player.
0:21:35 > 0:21:43You can't blame the coach. I have seen it done in Ireland. Look, on
0:21:43 > 0:21:47form, he deserves to be in there. It is farcical when you think Rhys Webb
0:21:47 > 0:21:51wouldn't be allowed to play for Wales this time next year and
0:21:51 > 0:21:56somebody living in the country for three or four years can.He knows
0:21:56 > 0:22:03the anthem though. We will wait and see. It would be interesting if they
0:22:03 > 0:22:12had a mic under him. It is not an easy anthem to sing. What do we
0:22:12 > 0:22:22think of the scrum with Webb on the bench.Four caps on the bench. A
0:22:22 > 0:22:26similar player to Gareth Davies. His service is very, very good and he
0:22:26 > 0:22:31has been around this squad for a while. Look, we have got depth in he
0:22:31 > 0:22:34Wales' scrum-half. He is a quality player.We keep talking about
0:22:34 > 0:22:40certain teams, Bobby, who have got a certain style, but when you watch
0:22:40 > 0:22:44the Springboks play, it is hard to define the style of rugby they play?
0:22:44 > 0:22:50It depends what kind of rugby they are playing at Super Rugby. The most
0:22:50 > 0:22:54successful South African teams had two or three teams that are
0:22:54 > 0:23:05competing at a high level in Super Rugby which is a counterattacking
0:23:05 > 0:23:10dynamic, skill type of play. You keep the physicality and then you
0:23:10 > 0:23:12have got players who can shift the ball and who can move around and
0:23:12 > 0:23:16finish. For me, this team is neither here nor there, because we are not
0:23:16 > 0:23:22doing that well in Super Rugby and when we get up to this level, are we
0:23:22 > 0:23:28physical enough? I don't think we have gone over the level.England
0:23:28 > 0:23:33have been through that. Every side goes through that. If you can't keep
0:23:33 > 0:23:36on selecting the same nine and ten, Wales have that problem. South
0:23:36 > 0:23:39Africa had it for the last few seasons. Until that gets rubber
0:23:39 > 0:23:44stamped and nailed down, they will struggle and in terms of the way
0:23:44 > 0:23:49they play, to me, South Africa have been one dimensional. They tried it
0:23:49 > 0:23:53a couple of seasons ago and it didn't work out. I disagree with
0:23:53 > 0:23:56Bobby, I don't think the skill levels are high enough to compete at
0:23:56 > 0:24:02the highest level.Martin? On the flip side, Wales, the most
0:24:02 > 0:24:07successful team in Wales has been the Scarlets. Wales are trying to
0:24:07 > 0:24:12emulate that. We have got players in our Welsh team who are not used to
0:24:12 > 0:24:19playing...You can't turn Owen Williams into jammy Roberts and vice
0:24:19 > 0:24:24versa. Play with what you have got. You are going to say the Springboks
0:24:24 > 0:24:29are going to win. And you're going to say Wales. The average points
0:24:29 > 0:24:33they have scored, the number of tries they both score, statistically
0:24:33 > 0:24:37it should be very close. When it is a close game, I always go for the
0:24:37 > 0:24:44home team. Go for Wales.I agree. I think it will be narrow, but I think
0:24:44 > 0:24:48Wales will sneak in.This is a contest which has a strange history
0:24:48 > 0:24:55since they first met 101 years at St Helen's in Swansea, it wasn't until
0:24:55 > 0:25:001996 until Wales beat the Springboks and that was one year after they
0:25:00 > 0:25:04shipped almost 100 points to them in Pretoria. Seven of the last ten
0:25:04 > 0:25:08meetings have been settled by six points or less. So this could be a
0:25:08 > 0:25:13very close match as well and as Bobby alluded to earlier, there is a
0:25:13 > 0:25:16scent of desperation in the air because both these sides for varying
0:25:16 > 0:25:21reasons really have to win this. Wales to sfinish the autumn
0:25:21 > 0:25:24internationals on a high and the Springboks perhaps to save their
0:25:24 > 0:25:31coach's job, but to go into the winter break on an upbeat note.
0:25:31 > 0:25:42After the anthems, commentary on the autumn internationals will come from
0:25:42 > 0:25:45Brian Moore and Eddie Butler.

0:29:15 > 0:29:19CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
0:29:21 > 0:29:28Good afternoon. It's December. It is red for Wales. Red for Santa!
0:29:28 > 0:29:38Changes in the squad for Wales. Evans the outstanding performance
0:29:38 > 0:29:51this campaign. A first cap for Parkes. Davies is the fast pass
0:29:51 > 0:30:06catalyst. Is that the recipe for much needed tries?
0:30:12 > 0:30:20Not a vast amount of experience in the scum. Not too many tries either.
0:30:20 > 0:30:28All will be direct. Good afternoon, Brian. A quick word.
0:30:28 > 0:30:33I hope that Wales can capitalise on the good work that they have done.
0:30:33 > 0:30:36If they can do that, the South Africans are there for the taking
0:30:36 > 0:30:45but they have two defend well as well.Hadleigh Parkes there, winning
0:30:45 > 0:30:49his first cap. Dan Biggar winning his 60th today, an important
0:30:49 > 0:30:56milestone because it means that he can go to clubs outside of Wales and
0:30:56 > 0:31:00be eligible. The French referee, Jerome Garces.
0:31:09 > 0:31:14A stand-alone international match at the end of the autumn series. Wales
0:31:14 > 0:31:17against South Africa.
0:31:19 > 0:31:21WHISTLE
0:31:22 > 0:31:30Dan Biggar goes left...
0:31:34 > 0:31:45Steven Kitshoff is the prop, towards the middle of the field. Scrum half
0:31:45 > 0:31:49Ross Cronje. Leigh Halfpenny shouts, and then
0:31:49 > 0:31:50spins.
0:31:55 > 0:32:00A good tackle, Pieter-Steph du Toit.
0:32:06 > 0:32:15Alan Shingler has had a good series so far. Jesse Kriel, ripping the
0:32:15 > 0:32:23ball from his grasp. The Welsh hooker, Kristian Dacey. Kevin Owens
0:32:23 > 0:32:33out with a bad back. The ball goes high into the Springbok half...
0:32:33 > 0:32:36Davies and Steff Evans outside of him.
0:32:36 > 0:32:45Evans, for himself to chase. It goes, Coetzee, doing well. The
0:32:45 > 0:32:51Springboks under pressure in their own 22. Getting the ball away.I
0:32:51 > 0:32:57would imagine we would be seeing more aerial warfare, because South
0:32:57 > 0:33:07Africa can deal with that capably.A mile away! We are underway quickly.
0:33:11 > 0:33:14Alun Wyn Jones, the captain again.
0:33:21 > 0:33:24Scott Andrews, the new player, Hadleigh Parkes, breaking two
0:33:24 > 0:33:27tackles.
0:33:36 > 0:33:40Kristian Dacey acting the playmaker, and Dan Biggar tries to get a little
0:33:40 > 0:33:47kick through. It comes up on the side of the Springboks, the
0:33:47 > 0:33:50advantage being played.
0:33:53 > 0:34:05A booming clearance.I think the New Zealand defender had it easy last
0:34:05 > 0:34:09week, in all of the possession that Wales had. Little kicks, I would
0:34:09 > 0:34:13like to see the backs getting involved more. Up against the bigger
0:34:13 > 0:34:24men. Quick feet, getting over the tackle line.A green and knock-on at
0:34:24 > 0:34:30the line-out.Talking about that attack, it starts with how the
0:34:30 > 0:34:34forwards carried. You have a Springbok defence one-on-one and
0:34:34 > 0:34:39they will hit you on the gain line. If you can flow just before the
0:34:39 > 0:34:43tackle, throwing inside and play the ball and get over the gain line,
0:34:43 > 0:34:51then things are possible.See how the scrum rows are. The front three
0:34:51 > 0:34:53there. It will be very interesting.
0:34:59 > 0:35:04Aled Davies, to feed the scrum. Steven Kitshoff on the near side
0:35:04 > 0:35:10against the returning Scott Andrews. It suddenly spins around.Answering
0:35:10 > 0:35:16your question first, before we talk about the scrum, they had to square
0:35:16 > 0:35:19up their shoulders and engage defenders but if they come up quick,
0:35:19 > 0:35:26have a grubber, or instead, feed the decoy runners so you keep the inside
0:35:26 > 0:35:30defence on it, because if they don't, they can go laterally all
0:35:30 > 0:35:33day.
0:35:47 > 0:35:53It is a quick ball, out to Aled Davies. A change in tactics...
0:35:53 > 0:36:02Hallam Amos against Coetzee! Getting the past two Scott Williams! That's
0:36:02 > 0:36:08how you vary the attack. Going wide, then you have a kick on, if you
0:36:08 > 0:36:12notice on the replay, locale narrowed the defensive line is. The
0:36:12 > 0:36:27left-winger is so narrow.Scott Williams, opening the scoring.There
0:36:27 > 0:36:35is the kick.You can see, the man outside.Favourable bounce. Good
0:36:35 > 0:36:40support lines. Looking quite simple. Watch how tight he is, the
0:36:40 > 0:36:46left-winger inside of the 15 metre area. A great take and good support.
0:36:46 > 0:36:49A great try for Wales to start. That should give them a lot of
0:36:49 > 0:36:57confidence. That will keep the South African defence thinking. If you
0:36:57 > 0:37:02pull them wide, there will be gaps inside.Tries have been so rare for
0:37:02 > 0:37:06Wales this year. Overall the major nations, only Italy have scored
0:37:06 > 0:37:21fewer. Leigh Halfpenny... Adding two. Wales
0:37:21 > 0:37:28leads 7-0.When the defence is so narrow, the full-back Coetzee was
0:37:28 > 0:37:34trying to cover. An impossible job. If you step anywhere off-line, the
0:37:34 > 0:37:40wrong footing will never stop you. It's good execution by everyone.
0:37:40 > 0:37:45Pique, catch, the off-load and the support.We are underway. -- the
0:37:45 > 0:37:54kick, and the catch. Cory Hill... A little bit of drama of the ball.
0:37:54 > 0:38:00It has all settled down now. Aled Davies towards Coetzee. The
0:38:00 > 0:38:02full-back catching safely.
0:38:11 > 0:38:20It's a turnover for Wales. Hallam Amos in hot pursuit. A fumble
0:38:20 > 0:38:28by Pollard. Wales driving forward, having scored the first try.A
0:38:28 > 0:38:34lovely little kick and a turnover. Going wide with it. A lovely kick,
0:38:34 > 0:38:39he wants people to stay in the field here. It does exactly that. An
0:38:39 > 0:38:45awkward kick but a good field position for Wales.Faletau with the
0:38:45 > 0:38:49catch. Kristian Dacey re-gathers at the back of the driving maul and
0:38:49 > 0:38:56comes away with it. Parkes chasing... And Parkes scores on his
0:38:56 > 0:39:06first game for Wales. No idea what defensive system South Africa are
0:39:06 > 0:39:13utilising there. The full-back was nowhere to be seen. Trying to cover
0:39:13 > 0:39:23behind. It was absent. A huge gap, exploited well but very poor
0:39:23 > 0:39:27organisation from the Springboks. What a start to an international
0:39:27 > 0:39:32career, at the age of 30. The kick again...Maybe the full-back was
0:39:32 > 0:39:39looking for the cross kick again? This time, the variety, three South
0:39:39 > 0:39:44African players there. No commitment to the ball. This guy gets there
0:39:44 > 0:39:52first. Good by Dan Biggar.Looking for the cross kick, then surely the
0:39:52 > 0:40:03winger or the scrum-half is the trailing player?Leigh Halfpenny, in
0:40:03 > 0:40:08front of the posts, Wales in front on the scoreboard. Hadleigh Parkes,
0:40:08 > 0:40:13a good pick-up off his toes. He's feeling good now! Wales will want a
0:40:13 > 0:40:25repeat of the wind from the last restart... -- a repeat of the win.
0:40:25 > 0:40:3854 tackles from the South African, Louis Schreuder. -- Lood de Jager.
0:40:38 > 0:40:40Davies again.
0:40:44 > 0:40:51Advantage, knock-on by green. A suitable advantage played by
0:40:51 > 0:41:01Wales...They are going the aerial route again. Off goes Hallam Amos.
0:41:01 > 0:41:03Faletau in support... He gets the past...
0:41:07 > 0:41:12Wales must score if they come this way. Hallam Amos, on his own...
0:41:12 > 0:41:20Amos!And important steel there. They have numbers on the left.
0:41:20 > 0:41:32Turnover by Kolisi. Cronje looking up... Coetzee, the South African, so
0:41:32 > 0:41:37shaky with the ball coming at them in the air. They must have noticed
0:41:37 > 0:41:45weaknesses. They had variety and the chase, all of their kicks have been
0:41:45 > 0:41:53brilliant.We couldn't even describe the last two of those attempts from
0:41:53 > 0:42:00the Springboks as half-hearted, they won't even close.Aaron Shingler
0:42:00 > 0:42:03with the pass.
0:42:10 > 0:42:13The captain, Alun Wyn Jones.
0:42:19 > 0:42:26Shingler twists and turns.But stealing...
0:42:33 > 0:42:37Coetzee putting length on the ball but Dan Biggar is back.
0:42:44 > 0:42:45Play on.
0:42:58 > 0:43:02Rare possession for the Springboks, it has all been defence. They have
0:43:02 > 0:43:09given the ball back to Wales through Leigh Halfpenny, as he thumps it
0:43:09 > 0:43:11down towards Pollard.
0:43:17 > 0:43:20Pollard tried a direct route, at least it comes out on the
0:43:20 > 0:43:28Springboks's side. Steven Kitshoff, nearly into the Welsh half.
0:43:33 > 0:43:44A rare touch for Dylan Leyds. The Springboks still inside of their own
0:43:44 > 0:43:56half. An excellent, good tackle by Cory Hill. Hadleigh Parkes and Scott
0:43:56 > 0:44:06Williams together.
0:44:06 > 0:44:11A pick-up by Francois Venter, putting South Africa deep inside of
0:44:11 > 0:44:15their half.In front of the ball carrier, scrum.Good inside
0:44:15 > 0:44:23defensive line speed from Wales. The pass is outside. The runners back
0:44:23 > 0:44:31into the traffic.An accidental scrum...WHISTLE
0:44:31 > 0:44:36We have a pause in what has been a breathless start for Wales. So short
0:44:36 > 0:44:40on tries but they have scored two, and they have had all of the
0:44:40 > 0:44:47possession. Just about!Yes, it has been very good and aggressive
0:44:47 > 0:44:56defence. Just watch the try. Look at this... Going wide and just watch
0:44:56 > 0:45:01this dummy run. There he goes. The scrum-half holds the scrum-half, and
0:45:01 > 0:45:07he off-loads behind. The full-back is too far right. Poor
0:45:07 > 0:45:11communication. On the blindside. Dreadful play by the South Africans.
0:45:11 > 0:45:23But clever play from Wales. They would be quite happy with that. No,
0:45:23 > 0:45:32no. It's not your fault. Sometimes we miss.I'm going to ask, they seem
0:45:32 > 0:45:35a little lacklustre behind, South Africa. The forwards and getting
0:45:35 > 0:45:39over the gain line but the line speed is good. The problem is, if
0:45:39 > 0:45:44you don't have creative backs, if you don't go forward first and the
0:45:44 > 0:45:48line speed is good, you are caught behind the gain line, if the
0:45:48 > 0:45:50tackling is accurate.
0:45:54 > 0:45:58Davies goes left from the scrum and there seems to be space out here for
0:45:58 > 0:45:59Steff Evans.
0:46:09 > 0:46:14Cory Hill, the other second row. Good hands from Scott Andrews. Is it
0:46:14 > 0:46:21another steel from the Springboks? The referee Jerome Garces says to
0:46:21 > 0:46:29play on. A feud turnovers in South Africa's favours. That allows
0:46:29 > 0:46:34Coetzee to clear. Going high and long, to Steff Evans.
0:46:47 > 0:46:50Leigh Halfpenny, acting scrum-half.
0:46:55 > 0:47:02Well, that is what he brings... Faletau, he has been around a lot
0:47:02 > 0:47:09longer. That is what he brings. Josh Navidi, he has had a very good
0:47:09 > 0:47:22November. Picked off by Gelant, turned over by Wales. Here comes
0:47:22 > 0:47:30Leigh Halfpenny... Running into the heavy Brigade who hold him up!
0:47:30 > 0:47:34Well, that's very good defensive work. Wrapped up by those giant arms
0:47:34 > 0:47:45of Evan Etzebeth.South Africa have done very well so far -- South
0:47:45 > 0:47:48Africa's Malcolm Marx has done very well so far committee slows things
0:47:48 > 0:47:57down. A tremendous game for him so far. An opportunity for two passes.
0:47:57 > 0:48:07You lose, you lose.Just a slight pause... Allister Coetzee, if his
0:48:07 > 0:48:12job is hanging on this game, it hasn't been a great start for his
0:48:12 > 0:48:24side. It's the chance to build something from the set piece.
0:48:24 > 0:48:32Ross Cronje, feeding a steady scrum for South Africa. Penalty advantages
0:48:32 > 0:48:42being played. Wales pulling and turning the scrum.Wales have shown
0:48:42 > 0:48:46that they have the upper hand in the scrums, they play the field
0:48:46 > 0:48:51position. Any five metre scrum for the referee then, they will think it
0:48:51 > 0:48:56is Wales collapsing all going down. Undoubtably true but if Wales can
0:48:56 > 0:49:00keep out of this situation, you can see what I'm talking about there. At
0:49:00 > 0:49:05the point of Carrie. Lined up, two people do it, straight over the gain
0:49:05 > 0:49:15line, and immediately it is seven yards. Malcolm Marx... To Evan
0:49:15 > 0:49:28Etzebeth.South Africa trying to set up the maul. South Africa moving
0:49:28 > 0:49:36ominously towards the goal line. It's gone out of play. Maybe he knew
0:49:36 > 0:49:42they had the penalty advantage? Maybe the Springbok number has lost
0:49:42 > 0:49:48his bearings a bit?Not much of a number but still going into a
0:49:48 > 0:49:52corner. Especially when the referee has in mind that Patchell is driving
0:49:52 > 0:50:01well. More likely to look at Wales as infringing.Pollard did not get
0:50:01 > 0:50:06greedy with the little kick to the corner. A ten metre line-out rather
0:50:06 > 0:50:11than five.I don't think he will be happy with that kick, he should have
0:50:11 > 0:50:22gone for a five metre one.Five jumpers until Kolisi takes control
0:50:22 > 0:50:34at the back. And Malcolm Marx. Du Preez has the ball. What a great
0:50:34 > 0:50:41try. I think it is Marx again.A one-man drive who came out, it is a
0:50:41 > 0:50:49sea of red shirts.Look how many defenders he has taken with him.
0:50:49 > 0:50:53REFEREE:I'm sure there is hand between the ball and the ground...
0:50:53 > 0:50:59Malcolm Marx was the ball-carrier. Jerome Garces ordering the review.
0:50:59 > 0:51:08Try, yes or no? We are not sure. Over to the match official...It is
0:51:08 > 0:51:20short there... I think he has scored.A try, yes or no... Nothing
0:51:20 > 0:51:40there. Nor anything there.
0:51:48 > 0:51:52I'm fairly sure that ball was in contact with the line that I do not
0:51:52 > 0:51:58think that you can see it. That is a problem.A great effort by Marx.
0:51:58 > 0:52:03Four defenders on him. He goes, momentum. He can place the ball
0:52:03 > 0:52:10immediately.Is that off the ground? You can see the point end of the
0:52:10 > 0:52:17ball. Slightly up over the line but you cannot see it down on the line.
0:52:17 > 0:52:21It's a difficult call. Try, yes or no? Looking for definitive evidence
0:52:21 > 0:52:36one way or another. Common sense says that he went over.
0:52:38 > 0:52:45Only one man knows the answer. That is the TMO.I think that Malcolm
0:52:45 > 0:52:50Marx might have a view!He is behind the post already. Waiting for a
0:52:50 > 0:53:02retake, isn't he?REFEREE:Yes, please? OK, so scrum, five from
0:53:02 > 0:53:09Green?Not given, the ball is held up, a five metre scrummage.
0:53:09 > 0:53:14Disappointment for Malcolm Marx and Allister Coetzee. A let off for
0:53:14 > 0:53:19Wales.That is why I am in favour of the officials on the field making a
0:53:19 > 0:53:23call and then you having to have definitive evidence to overturn
0:53:23 > 0:53:28that. I think the officials should make a call, yes or no, whether it
0:53:28 > 0:53:33is or it isn't. According to their general view, how they are feeling.
0:53:33 > 0:53:38If there isn't evidence, for example, he said I think it is a try
0:53:38 > 0:53:43but any reason I cannot award it? Then you get benefit of the doubt.
0:53:43 > 0:53:47That's key, the framing of the question, any reason why I cannot
0:53:47 > 0:53:53award a try?Yes or no? Thank you. Wales are not off the hook
0:53:53 > 0:53:59completely. The Springbok scrum has been powerful. The drive has been
0:53:59 > 0:54:03powerful. I think the three quarters may have a little weight on their
0:54:03 > 0:54:15hands. There they come... Coetzee, ordered to use it. The number eight,
0:54:15 > 0:54:25Santa Cruz, fixing up. -- Dan du Preez, picking up. Steff Evans is
0:54:25 > 0:54:35away! Leigh Halfpenny in support. Steff Evans... Dillyn Leyds is back
0:54:35 > 0:54:39for the Springboks but seconds before they were threatening the
0:54:39 > 0:54:51goal-line, now they are back on their own 22. Kitshoff, Cory Hill
0:54:51 > 0:54:54making the tackle.
0:54:58 > 0:55:02Cronje have to be careful with his clearance. Faletau is back for
0:55:02 > 0:55:12Wales... A great catch by the number rate. -- the number eight.
0:55:20 > 0:55:28Hallam Amos is in pursuit, again. As is Hadleigh Parkes. While taken by
0:55:28 > 0:55:30Coetzee.I do not think the South African forward would be too happy
0:55:30 > 0:55:39with that. It popped out, the Welsh have done exceptionally well but it
0:55:39 > 0:55:54was a poor pass. In their own 22. Three, red.
0:55:54 > 0:56:02Scott Andrews, the guilty party. Don't move your arm. Don't move your
0:56:02 > 0:56:05arm.
0:56:09 > 0:56:13Steff Evans.
0:56:16 > 0:56:28The opportunity missed, Cronje, a safe catch from him this time.
0:56:40 > 0:56:47A knock-on, Wales will have to put in a penalty.Don't move your arm. A
0:56:47 > 0:56:54neck roll by you. You do not move your arm.Sorry, mate. This is what
0:56:54 > 0:56:58he is talking about...
0:57:05 > 0:57:18What do you mean a bit harsh? Yeah, neck roll.
0:57:21 > 0:57:25Scott Andrews on the near side again. Wales will want to get a
0:57:25 > 0:57:33quick strike and get away from here. One for Faletau to sort out. A clear
0:57:33 > 0:57:40advantage to South Africa at the scrummage.Doing well against Scott
0:57:40 > 0:57:44Andrews, trying to get his body... When he gets straight like that you
0:57:44 > 0:57:48need to be immensely strong to cope with the power and weight coming
0:57:48 > 0:57:53through. You have to do that, turning in like Jones. Get your
0:57:53 > 0:57:57right shoulder down, move all of your movement across your shoulders
0:57:57 > 0:58:01and once you get square like that, you've got to be incredibly strong
0:58:01 > 0:58:06and chances are you won't be able to do it like that. There is a lot of
0:58:06 > 0:58:10work going in from Malcolm Marx as well. Driving in from Scott
0:58:10 > 0:58:15Andrews...And we mentioned getting into the Welsh 22, that is how they
0:58:15 > 0:58:21do it. Getting penalised at the halfway line.A poor throw. My
0:58:21 > 0:58:26goodness, the Springbok communication is... Well, there just
0:58:26 > 0:58:31isn't any other moment. Leigh Halfpenny puts it behind Coetzee.
0:58:31 > 0:58:35The full-back has plenty of time to gather but it means that Wales are
0:58:35 > 0:58:43in control of this. In control of this defensive situation, even
0:58:43 > 0:58:50though it goes long by Dan Biggar. My word, that is a good kick!
0:58:50 > 0:58:55Coetzee disgusted, but that is an immense kick from Dan Biggar. It
0:58:55 > 0:59:05appeared OK, but watch. Does Coetzee take it in? There you go. Well done,
0:59:05 > 0:59:15Mr Barnes.
0:59:16 > 0:59:22A quick ball from Wales at the line-out.Evans, wandering off the
0:59:22 > 0:59:28wing. Kristian Dacey, seems clear that Wales are more comfortable here
0:59:28 > 0:59:40in open play then they are at the set piece.
0:59:53 > 1:00:01Aaron Shingler with him. Scott Andrews, crossing in front of him
1:00:01 > 1:00:12but the referee says to play on. Malcolm Marx has to leave it. Parkes
1:00:12 > 1:00:16hard and straight. The quickly delivered.
1:00:22 > 1:00:32Top Josh Navidi. Kitshoff makes the tackle. Trying to work the overlap.
1:00:32 > 1:00:40Rob Evans. Had it and lost it. Had it and lost it.In that position,
1:00:40 > 1:00:44they're building, they're building. Two scores up. If it's slow ball,
1:00:44 > 1:00:49you sit-in the pocket and drop the goal. 17 points up. You've got to
1:00:49 > 1:00:56take it. Very effective so far, Wales. Inside ball from the centres.
1:00:56 > 1:01:00They are not pushing the passes wide. Keeping the inside defence on
1:01:00 > 1:01:13so they don't post tee early.-- too early.Looking at South Africa,
1:01:13 > 1:01:24there is no go to player, is there? There is no one controlling it. It
1:01:24 > 1:01:27looks a comfortable day for Wales. The South Africans will have to pick
1:01:27 > 1:01:35their game up.
1:01:39 > 1:01:47Rock solid, South Africa at the scrimmage. It's not the greatest
1:01:47 > 1:01:54clearance. Such a comfortable bit of possession. Handre Pollard didn't
1:01:54 > 1:01:58make that much ground. You are looking at attack and defence when
1:01:58 > 1:02:03you are under pressure. Wales is much more certain in that respect
1:02:03 > 1:02:09than South Africa are.
1:02:13 > 1:02:27Shingler. Du Toit with the tackle on him. Rob Evans again. He is there
1:02:27 > 1:02:38again. Mr Marx is there again.He is a rock, isn't he?Well, his form in
1:02:38 > 1:02:44Super Rugby has been fantastic. He's a carrier. Explosive, good
1:02:44 > 1:02:55technically.Pollard. That's a little bit more ambitious.Good
1:02:55 > 1:03:08carry again. He is having an impressive autumn certificate.
1:03:08 > 1:03:19-- series. Just inside, Dan Biggar. Malcolm Marx is the busiest player
1:03:19 > 1:03:32on the Springboks side. Taken down. Pollard. Cronje.
1:03:43 > 1:03:57Pollard. Jesse Kriel. A bit slow for South Africa. A chance. There is
1:03:57 > 1:04:02movement. That's a brilliant pick up by Marx again. Great hands by the
1:04:02 > 1:04:12hooker.
1:04:27 > 1:04:42Wilco Louw, the other prop. A good catch. There is a good
1:04:42 > 1:04:53penalty against Josh Navidi. Marx. He has taken the rebound. He has
1:04:53 > 1:05:02gone forward. But there is this penalty advantage.
1:05:02 > 1:05:09REFEREE:High tackle on 10, green. Not a bad one. It was high, but not
1:05:09 > 1:05:15bad. He seems to be the main ball carrier, Handre Pollard. He goes and
1:05:15 > 1:05:20he carries them. He plays so deep in the pocket. He doesn't much
1:05:20 > 1:05:26opportunity for his centres.Well, again, South Africa's carrying is
1:05:26 > 1:05:31very direct, but this is just one inside ball. That's all it is. And
1:05:31 > 1:05:38not a great attempt at an tackle going too high and you're behind the
1:05:38 > 1:05:44initial line and from there, a great pick up by the hooker. But again,
1:05:44 > 1:05:49one simple transfer of the point of contact. Back inside running against
1:05:49 > 1:05:59the angle of defenders makes so much difference.
1:06:03 > 1:06:08Half an hour gone. South Africa are on the board. Wales 14, South Africa
1:06:08 > 1:06:173.
1:06:31 > 1:06:39Dan Dan Biggar is taking thims. Just as he did last week. Biggar has
1:06:39 > 1:06:41split the forwards.
1:06:43 > 1:06:54Pollard. Didn't quite control the ball as he went into in. A good
1:06:54 > 1:07:05drive by Dan du Preez. Cronje. Leigh Halfpenny. A good tackle by Dillyn
1:07:05 > 1:07:13Leyds.He can't tackle him there. The ball has gone loose. South
1:07:13 > 1:07:24Africa have it now. A chance, is there? Coetzee. No chance. It shrugs
1:07:24 > 1:07:32off and gets the pass away. It is a second for Hadleigh Parkes.
1:07:32 > 1:07:47Well, self inflicted wound there by South Africa. It has beenI would
1:07:47 > 1:07:53like to look at this again. He has given it and it is too late unless
1:07:53 > 1:07:58he goes to the video ref. The benefit of the doubt, we'll have
1:07:58 > 1:08:05that.Take the conversion quickly. It is a great, great offload, but so
1:08:05 > 1:08:11much time. That's a great offload. The fact is, that should never have
1:08:11 > 1:08:15been judged down. He had enough time to clear. So much time. Too much
1:08:15 > 1:08:29time sometimes. He is looking at the big screen.I don't think any of the
1:08:29 > 1:08:37South Africans have even questioned it. It's fine. When you have so much
1:08:37 > 1:08:43time, he was looking to place the ball. An easy two points for
1:08:43 > 1:08:48Halfpenny. That has really put them under the cosh now, South Africa.
1:08:48 > 1:08:59Three tries to Wales. Three converted tries. Well, it's tight.
1:08:59 > 1:09:07This is a fantastic pass out of the tackle situation.
1:09:07 > 1:09:14He has played well this man, hasn't he? Hadleigh Parkes. As he does club
1:09:14 > 1:09:19rugby, he just takes the right option all the time.A good catch,
1:09:19 > 1:09:32Cory Hill again. Aled Davies prepares to give Evans something to
1:09:32 > 1:09:43chase, the number eight, on half-way.
1:09:45 > 1:09:49Pollard, but Aled Davies read it well. Does he keep the ball on the
1:09:49 > 1:10:04field now or does he go for touch? On the field.Wrong channel.
1:10:04 > 1:10:13Siya Kolisi.
1:10:15 > 1:10:21Halfpenny, will he jump this time? He does and catches, but it's a good
1:10:21 > 1:10:28charge over him by South Africa. Marx.
1:10:28 > 1:10:33Dan Biggar, the tackler.
1:10:41 > 1:10:48Steven Kitshoff. Now this is where South Africa tend to just press the
1:10:48 > 1:10:54accelerator down.
1:11:01 > 1:11:17The pass not all brute force then. Kolisi. This is the other side. The
1:11:17 > 1:11:23South African second row. It has gone forward. He tries to get the
1:11:23 > 1:11:34pass to Navidi. Dan Biggar says, "Who is at home?" Dillyn Leyds.
1:11:34 > 1:11:41Scott Williams is beaten. Dillyn Leyds has a chance to stretch his
1:11:41 > 1:11:51legs. Gets past Navidi. He finds Jesse Kriel. It is a chase back.
1:11:51 > 1:12:00What speed by the winger. That was a superb chase and he did well with
1:12:00 > 1:12:07the touchdown.That's a brilliant try. I hear a lot about this kid,
1:12:07 > 1:12:12you know. I was talking to a South African broadcaster. They can't
1:12:12 > 1:12:17believe he is not playing in that position, but he just comes from
1:12:17 > 1:12:23nowhere. It is a lovely counterattack. Lovely pass. He just
1:12:23 > 1:12:28tracks it on the inside and he says kick, kick and here he comes and
1:12:28 > 1:12:32puts his foot on the accelerator and unfortunately with Davies, no
1:12:32 > 1:12:38chance. That's a lovely, lovely try by South Africa.And give credit for
1:12:38 > 1:12:43the kick as well, under pressure. Just watch him. This guy has got to
1:12:43 > 1:12:55be happy, yes.Well, they have looked very shaky in defence.
1:12:55 > 1:13:02They've had control of the set piece, but they burst out of an
1:13:02 > 1:13:15unpromising start and turned a quarter chance into a try.
1:13:16 > 1:13:20Handre Pollard to add the extra two. The kick is good. South Africa is
1:13:20 > 1:13:25back in the game. For the sake of the contest, very important that
1:13:25 > 1:13:32South Africa did something just before half-time. To go in with a 20
1:13:32 > 1:13:37point deficit would have been too much. That will give them hope. We
1:13:37 > 1:13:46should pay tribute to the ambition and confidence of the ladies who
1:13:46 > 1:13:56started that all off.Great running by Dillyn Leyds.As we approach
1:13:56 > 1:14:03half-time, Wales through Dan Biggar. Dillyn Leyds who started it and had
1:14:03 > 1:14:12a good old gallop himself. It has come loose. Wales will have a chance
1:14:12 > 1:14:17now on the stroke of half-time. Somebody has to go to scrum-half.
1:14:17 > 1:14:27Oh, Hadleigh Parkes. That's gone loose. Went backwards. Rob Evans
1:14:27 > 1:14:31would play scrum-half, but he's barged out of the way. Suddenly,
1:14:31 > 1:14:38they are picking up scraps. There is an injury down.Yes.Away from that
1:14:38 > 1:14:49break down. It doesn't look good either. Etzebeth is the player down.
1:14:49 > 1:14:58Meanwhile South Africa outside their 22 through Ross Cronje. Dan Biggar
1:14:58 > 1:15:07jumps. Leigh Halfpenny wants it and tells Aled Davies he wants it now.
1:15:07 > 1:15:12An extra man on the ground as well. Aled Davies says let's get in for
1:15:12 > 1:15:19half-time. This is Etzebeth down. 50 yards away from play. It doesn't
1:15:19 > 1:15:29look too good.
1:15:35 > 1:15:38The scoreboard probably rejects the dominance that they have had. Just
1:15:38 > 1:15:43to warn you at the end if you stepped off the gas, if you don't
1:15:43 > 1:15:46chase properly and if you don't tackle, then South Africa have the
1:15:46 > 1:15:51where with all to did you damage. Well, if there is a muscle injury to
1:15:51 > 1:16:00Etzebeth, it will be a massive one. Wales 21, South Africa 10.
1:16:00 > 1:16:01Etzebeth, it will be a massive one. Wales 21, South Africa 10.
1:16:01 > 1:16:06Well, we have ourselves a game and if you decided not to go Christmas
1:16:06 > 1:16:10shopping and watch the game, you have been rewarded with an
1:16:10 > 1:16:14enthralling 40 minutes and maybe the try at the enhas given us an
1:16:14 > 1:16:19intriguing second half. I should say that Hadleigh Parkes' second try for
1:16:19 > 1:16:25Wales, he is the first player to score two tries for Wales on his
1:16:25 > 1:16:30debut since George North seven years ago and Wales have never scored
1:16:30 > 1:16:34seven tries against South Africa ever. There are the facts and
1:16:34 > 1:16:40figures of a match. 50/50 of the tackles made. It has been a funny
1:16:40 > 1:16:45game?Wales have been dominant. There much urgency and sop much more
1:16:45 > 1:16:49urgent than South Africa are in mind particularly. There is more energy.
1:16:49 > 1:16:53South Africa are making so many sloppy errors. Dan Biggar has been
1:16:53 > 1:16:57superb. He has controlled the game for Whales. Totally dominant
1:16:57 > 1:17:05first-half for Wales.Gerry.South Africa aren't deviating from their
1:17:05 > 1:17:10DNA, let's go forward and go route one. Opportunities in counterattack
1:17:10 > 1:17:15not always taken and very strong in the scrum. That's traditional. Very
1:17:15 > 1:17:19easy, kind of you, you know what they are going to do and it is easy
1:17:19 > 1:17:23to defend. Wales have been clever and quite smart and if they continue
1:17:23 > 1:17:28in that vain, it will be hard for South Africa to come back. You have
1:17:28 > 1:17:31been getting animated Bobby, alongside us here.Animated. I would
1:17:31 > 1:17:35say it is probably a reflection of the disappointment with what they
1:17:35 > 1:17:41are trying to do. Coetzee is a big, strong guy. He is being charged down
1:17:41 > 1:17:47twice and he could find contact in the Kobe desert! He's strong and at
1:17:47 > 1:17:50the has got a great pass. He has a great step. I haven't seen him
1:17:50 > 1:17:54moving five yards without looking for someone to run into. For me, it
1:17:54 > 1:17:58is a bit embarrassing because these are athletes and the way they're
1:17:58 > 1:18:01playing is exactly like Wales were hoping they were going to play. When
1:18:01 > 1:18:06they did run one from deep, we scored a try.
1:18:06 > 1:18:09Let's go through it chroniclogically, Wales scored
1:18:09 > 1:18:15within five minutes and that set the template for the rest of the half.
1:18:15 > 1:18:22They will have watched the videos. He has just drifted wide, Amos.
1:18:22 > 1:18:25They will have watched the videos. He has just drifted wide, Amos.
1:18:25 > 1:18:31Looks easy, but this kick needs to be perfect.
1:18:34 > 1:18:40The inside guys, the urgency. That's all done in the videos. For a team
1:18:40 > 1:18:49struggling to score tries, when a move like this comes off that you
1:18:49 > 1:18:55have practised and he rehearsed, gives you confidence. He looked for
1:18:55 > 1:19:00support and it was there for Wales. Scott Williams backing up his superb
1:19:00 > 1:19:04try last week and he got another one this week. You would question the
1:19:04 > 1:19:08South African line in the backs there, wouldn't you?We had an
1:19:08 > 1:19:13interesting set-up. They didn't run the ball when they had an advantage
1:19:13 > 1:19:19about two minutes before that and then they lost their own scrum. They
1:19:19 > 1:19:24got him with a clearly put together strategy. A lovely piece of skill
1:19:24 > 1:19:29from Wales and credit to them. If you are the skipper or the back line
1:19:29 > 1:19:34coach, get the youngster who really wants to play the ball. He is
1:19:34 > 1:19:38probably thinking 65,000 people, what should I do next? They have
1:19:38 > 1:19:43outfoxed him which doesn't seem hard at the moment unfortunately.
1:19:43 > 1:19:44outfoxed him which doesn't seem hard at the moment unfortunately.
1:19:44 > 1:19:48Hadleigh Parkes' debut, his first tryment he wanted that ball and
1:19:48 > 1:19:52maybe one or two of the Springbok defenders weren't sure about that.
1:19:52 > 1:19:59There is a shimmy. A glimmer of a dummy run by Davies. He thinks the
1:19:59 > 1:20:03cross kick is coming in. There is no one flanking him behind doing the
1:20:03 > 1:20:10sweeper role. Too many stand still and watch Hadleigh Parkes pick the
1:20:10 > 1:20:16ball up.He wanted it more than the four or five South Africans. As soon
1:20:16 > 1:20:20as that ball hit the floor, it was a great pick up.He is not the
1:20:20 > 1:20:26quickest and he still gets there. It is fantastic composure. If you are a
1:20:26 > 1:20:29South African, you are disappointed with that.If you are the team
1:20:29 > 1:20:35captain and you have captained the Springboks and that try has been
1:20:35 > 1:20:38conceded, what do you say when you are behind the posts and you are
1:20:38 > 1:20:4414-0 after ten minutes?It's a family show!
1:20:44 > 1:20:49The one thing you have to say, all credit to them. They have outfoxed
1:20:49 > 1:20:53us, guys. Is the guy next to you doing a smart thing? Is the guy next
1:20:53 > 1:20:58to him doing a smart thing? What I haven't seen, I have seen a lot of
1:20:58 > 1:21:02right, let's smash it a bit harder now. Let's do the same thing and
1:21:02 > 1:21:06expect a different result. That's the definition of insanity. I really
1:21:06 > 1:21:12liked it when they spread the ball twice and you can see guys trying
1:21:12 > 1:21:16and Marx has been amazing. Those guys will be saying, "What can I
1:21:16 > 1:21:20do?" That's the difficult situation they are in.I know you think one or
1:21:20 > 1:21:25two decision have gone Wales' way. What about the third try, Parkes'
1:21:25 > 1:21:29second? Do you think they should have been ruled out for offside?
1:21:29 > 1:21:35Well, it is marginal. It is Dan Biggar again. He is in front. He is
1:21:35 > 1:21:42in front there. Having seen that angle.Marginalish.It is great
1:21:42 > 1:21:54finish and great vision from Faletau. South Africa, what is
1:21:54 > 1:22:00Kolisi doing here?We don't go on to the officials unnecessarily, but
1:22:00 > 1:22:04apparently that was not clear and obvious, but there is four people
1:22:04 > 1:22:08that can see that was clear and obvious and offside. It is a shame
1:22:08 > 1:22:12that we have had to come to that. Wales deserve the 11 point lead
1:22:12 > 1:22:18here. I think Marx' try for me, was...Well, we are coming on to
1:22:18 > 1:22:23that in a second. It is an 11 point margin because the Springboks scored
1:22:23 > 1:22:26towards the end of that half. That was the first time in the whole
1:22:26 > 1:22:30match that they have gone wide and they have shown a bit of invention.
1:22:30 > 1:22:34Dillyn Leyds is a young player who had a tremendous domestic season in
1:22:34 > 1:22:37South Africa. He has come through different things. This is the kind
1:22:37 > 1:22:42of thing he does week and week out for Western Province. That's what I
1:22:42 > 1:22:46have been waiting for. The kick, every ball from the back, the one
1:22:46 > 1:22:50they haven't, they have split the entire Welsh team in half. Now you
1:22:50 > 1:23:05have got Kriel and didn't we say before the match, watch out for the
1:23:05 > 1:23:10pace of him, he is an amazing athlete. That should say to the
1:23:10 > 1:23:14South African team, let's get it to the guys who can really do damage
1:23:14 > 1:23:19with the ball. You feel for Aled Davies. You know you are not going
1:23:19 > 1:23:23to win the race and you are in quicksand and you have got a guy at
1:23:23 > 1:23:28that pace. It was a fantastic pace. This is one of those difficult
1:23:28 > 1:23:31situations you get when you rely on technology now to make the decision
1:23:31 > 1:23:37for you, when if you like your rugby instinct says, "99.9% certain, this
1:23:37 > 1:23:49is a try."Before TMOs the referee would have given that try.This one
1:23:49 > 1:23:57for me, Malcolm Marx has five men on his back. How powerful was that? The
1:23:57 > 1:24:02one thing I will say week in and week out, we judge players on what
1:24:02 > 1:24:06happened on the field, but you have got a TMO with 30 cameras and an
1:24:06 > 1:24:10opportunity to make a difference and neither of those mistakes has he
1:24:10 > 1:24:14managed to rectify. This potentially could be career threatening result
1:24:14 > 1:24:19for Allister Coetzee so you have got to look at the gravity of how they
1:24:19 > 1:24:23affect the games. In this situation I wouldn't have changed either
1:24:23 > 1:24:26because I didn't see Faletau until Gerry mentioned it and Marx, I
1:24:26 > 1:24:33thought was a try.It is a 14 point swing, but one thing you can impact
1:24:33 > 1:24:40and is impacting on Coetzee tenancy as a coach is some fundamental
1:24:40 > 1:24:46errors that the Springboks are making in key air yos of the pitch.
1:24:46 > 1:24:49errors that the Springboks are making in key air yos of the pitch.
1:24:49 > 1:24:53That's a terrible kick from Pollard. Marx scores a try and there is no
1:24:53 > 1:24:59doubt they would have pushed over. That's really sloppy. It is the
1:24:59 > 1:25:02world's biggest inside out combination. Losing the ball and
1:25:02 > 1:25:06Pollard doesn't kick this out. Now, these are basics. When you say to
1:25:06 > 1:25:13kids tackle low, you also say kick it out like the fly-half do.This is
1:25:13 > 1:25:18so uncharacteristic for a the line-out. Credit Wales because they
1:25:18 > 1:25:21have had more urgency, but the South Africans, whether they are thinking
1:25:21 > 1:25:26of the beach, I'm not sure, but they are way off the pace.If there is
1:25:26 > 1:25:31one area of the game you worry, it would be the scrum because the South
1:25:31 > 1:25:35Africans are dominant there?Yes, they have been more dominant. The
1:25:35 > 1:25:39two instances you wanted more from them was close to the line, but this
1:25:39 > 1:25:47young front row, they are good. I really like what they bring to the
1:25:47 > 1:25:52party and Marx has been the stand out South African player. The front
1:25:52 > 1:25:56row are dominating. They have won a couple of scrums. You have got to
1:25:56 > 1:26:01turn that into more advantage. We are not hanging out the officials to
1:26:01 > 1:26:08dry here. We are picking key incidents. We saw the Scotland v
1:26:08 > 1:26:13Australia game last week being impacted by a sending off in the
1:26:13 > 1:26:19first-half for somebody going into a ruck illegally. What do we make of
1:26:19 > 1:26:22Rob Evans going into this ruck here? I know you have got a strong
1:26:22 > 1:26:27opinion.I don't mind about the penalty. I have seen young kids, 16,
1:26:27 > 1:26:3218-year-old kids and I watch from the side. OK, that's a guy's neck
1:26:32 > 1:26:38and back on the ground. That potentially is a back breaking
1:26:38 > 1:26:42injury because you are not allowed to go in with your shoulder. Penalty
1:26:42 > 1:26:55or not, I don't mind, but that's nots what rugby is about.
1:26:58 > 1:27:03You could a fussy TMO who decides that's worth looking at. It could be
1:27:03 > 1:27:12one card or another. What is really annoying is that players do it.
1:27:12 > 1:27:16Don't worry about the penalty. That's been missed. The high tackle
1:27:16 > 1:27:21are easier to see because they're in open play.Is this game done yet?
1:27:21 > 1:27:26No, it's not done. South Africa can't be that bad again and Wales
1:27:26 > 1:27:35need to keep the intensity of the game up. It's not done by stretch of
1:27:35 > 1:27:35the imagination.
1:27:35 > 1:27:38game up. It's not done by stretch of the imagination.I think Etzebeth
1:27:38 > 1:27:42was limping off. We haven't got a result yet. If he's off, it's going
1:27:42 > 1:27:45to be a big, hard, difficult hill for South Africa to climb because he
1:27:45 > 1:27:49has been carrying almost every time they've got the ball.Well, there is
1:27:49 > 1:27:53no rugby representative in the final 12 for Sports Personality of the
1:27:53 > 1:27:59Year, but it will be a difficult choice to make.
1:27:59 > 1:28:03After the races are won and medals gained, the records broken and
1:28:03 > 1:28:08punches thrown. After the hard yards, hard minutes and hard games
1:28:08 > 1:28:13are done, the Giants conquer and the trophies etched forever. After the
1:28:13 > 1:28:17legends have taken their bow, and new ones have emerged, there is only
1:28:17 > 1:28:24one left to decide. BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017. It is
1:28:24 > 1:28:28live from Liverpool, Sunday, 17th December, on BBC One.
1:28:28 > 1:28:33Before that, we have one more game of rugby to show you live on BBC
1:28:33 > 1:28:38Television and that's the women's match. It's on the Red Button at
1:28:38 > 1:28:4411.30am on Thursday. We are live for the men's game at 2.45 on Thursday
1:28:44 > 1:28:59afternoon. The first weekend in February, we start with Wales v
1:28:59 > 1:29:01Scotland and France viraled. A couple of other things to mention as
1:29:01 > 1:29:04well. The highlights of the rugby league World Cup final, I won't tell
1:29:04 > 1:29:09you what happened. I know all sorts of trouble if I tell you, you can
1:29:09 > 1:29:13watch the Human Rights at 6pm on BBC Two. Match Of The Day tonight,
1:29:13 > 1:29:2010.20pm on BBC One. I'm just hearing that Etzebeth is not coming back on
1:29:20 > 1:29:24to the field because of that injury. That might be a really key factor in
1:29:24 > 1:29:38determining the outcome of this. Well, I think, I
1:29:43 > 1:29:53was going to say, there might abgood replacement.Wales will probably
1:29:53 > 1:29:58take a leave out of Ireland's book. The accuracy from Biggar has been
1:29:58 > 1:30:05superb.More of the same?Move on from Georgia and what we have seen
1:30:05 > 1:30:08would intensity, that's what the conversation should have been from
1:30:08 > 1:30:16the coaches to the Welsh side. Up the intensity.South Africa make all
1:30:16 > 1:30:19the mistakes so they do your first-half for you.Just 40 minutes
1:30:19 > 1:30:25left for this series of Autumn International matches and Eddie
1:30:25 > 1:30:28Butler.
1:30:28 > 1:30:32COMMENTATOR: Off we go, as Jerome Garces says to start the second half
1:30:32 > 1:30:36with his whistle. Pollard with his boot.
1:30:44 > 1:30:47Coetzee has a little luck and runs into Cory Hill committee does make a
1:30:47 > 1:30:59lot of tackles. -- a little look and runs into Cory Hill, who does make a
1:30:59 > 1:31:10lot of tackles. Rob Evans, missing a tackle there. But making that one.
1:31:10 > 1:31:15Pollard, tackled by Faletau.
1:31:17 > 1:31:27Good passing. The final pass to Gelant goes astray. This is a better
1:31:27 > 1:31:33start to the second half by South Africa than the first!A very good
1:31:33 > 1:31:38start, Malcolm Marx does the first initial break. A lovely double pump,
1:31:38 > 1:31:46a late pass. Passing to the winner. That was poor. Difficult to take.
1:31:46 > 1:31:51Trying to elevate Pelissie to the captaincy, but he has got it now. --
1:31:51 > 1:31:51elevate
1:31:59 > 1:32:02Kolisi.
1:32:12 > 1:32:24Wilco Louw with the head and leg bandages. A bandaged tight head.
1:32:40 > 1:32:44Now then, the first scrum of the second half, Wales will not want to
1:32:44 > 1:32:49linger. And they get it away quickly. Hadleigh Parkes takes it
1:32:49 > 1:32:56over the 22. Davies with time to plan his kick. That cannot go
1:32:56 > 1:33:07straight out.Outside of the 22. He goes back, a South African ball.The
1:33:07 > 1:33:13forwards will not be happy. Having been scrummaged, they stand to get
1:33:13 > 1:33:18the ball back, having seen that type of mistake made, it is a poor kick,
1:33:18 > 1:33:23isn't it? They set it up and everything. The direction was very
1:33:23 > 1:33:33poor. Kitshoff comes that way. The man who threw it to him was
1:33:33 > 1:33:43short.
1:33:46 > 1:33:54Josh Navidi with the tackle here. Cranky... Oupa Mohoje. A change of
1:33:54 > 1:34:08direction. Jesse Kriel, through the gap, he cannot get that pass away.
1:34:08 > 1:34:10Drew
1:34:14 > 1:34:21short, but there is still a chance for cranky. Do they need that
1:34:21 > 1:34:27penalty advantage? Dillyn Leyds, he set up the first try. South Africa,
1:34:27 > 1:34:33inches short. WHISTLE
1:34:33 > 1:34:37No advantage, we go back to the penalty. It has been a much more
1:34:37 > 1:34:44impressive start by the Springboks. They wanted intensity from the
1:34:44 > 1:34:54Welsh, and they have come out with a greater intensity. They say the high
1:34:54 > 1:35:01tackle, but you never know these days. The decision to go to the
1:35:01 > 1:35:10corner. I think they will try and shove it over the line. It must be
1:35:10 > 1:35:13in Warren Gatland's mind that they are the dominant pack. If you've
1:35:13 > 1:35:19seen anything in super his performance today, by no surprise,
1:35:19 > 1:35:29he is a fantastic player.Slightly untidy... It was straight.Siya
1:35:29 > 1:35:36Kolisi coming away with it. They get down.
1:35:36 > 1:35:40Dan Biggar comes up fast, kicking off.
1:35:49 > 1:35:56Wilco Louw, Cozzi kicking off again. Good strength from Kitshoff. Out it
1:35:56 > 1:36:06comes... Pollard! South Africa get their reward for an impressive start
1:36:06 > 1:36:11to the second half. Not subtle but it is all effective, due to the
1:36:11 > 1:36:17intensity which has been ratcheted up since they came back out. You
1:36:17 > 1:36:24cannot say that they do not deserve that, they need to start hitting.
1:36:24 > 1:36:28They had so many numbers on the right-hand side, Aled Davies tries
1:36:28 > 1:36:32to go out and close them down but you have to afford it to them, they
1:36:32 > 1:36:36had to do something. They had absolutely no chance. Good pressure
1:36:36 > 1:36:40but it all came from the loose cake of Aled Davies, setting up the
1:36:40 > 1:36:46position, then the penalty. An easy finish. South Africa are back in
1:36:46 > 1:36:49this game now.
1:36:53 > 1:36:57It is such a contrast. The way that South Africa started this game and
1:36:57 > 1:37:04how they are playing now at the start of the second half... Pollard.
1:37:04 > 1:37:12A penalty conversion try to his name. And it stays as one conversion
1:37:12 > 1:37:19to his name.Small things, like a change in momentum in games, Wales
1:37:19 > 1:37:25just conceded a score, then they were going to be successful, then
1:37:25 > 1:37:28kicking straight out, reversing the momentum and immediately putting
1:37:28 > 1:37:32South Africa back on the foot instead of being out and playing
1:37:32 > 1:37:38them from the halfway line.I am not surprised that Wales make changes.
1:37:38 > 1:37:46In the front row. This is Rhys Patchell coming on behind the scrum.
1:37:46 > 1:37:51Aled Davies's partner at the Scarlets. Wyn Jones comes on into
1:37:51 > 1:37:56the front row. Wyn Jones is on for Rob Evans. Rhys Patchell for Dan
1:37:56 > 1:38:04Biggar.It's an interesting substitution of Dan Biggar Bowe. He
1:38:04 > 1:38:07has played exceptionally well in the first half. Scoring after seven
1:38:07 > 1:38:14minutes. It is interesting to see whether it is tactical or an injury.
1:38:14 > 1:38:18Sonia will be able to chase that up. An interesting change. The line-out
1:38:18 > 1:38:22working well for Wales... Scott Williams will want to present
1:38:22 > 1:38:24quickly and he does.
1:38:29 > 1:38:35A good counter ruck from Oupa Mohoje, delaying that release for
1:38:35 > 1:38:37Wales. The
1:38:41 > 1:38:55Oupa Mohoje involved again. The new player, Wyn Jones, the prop. The
1:38:55 > 1:38:59ball is here. Use the ball.It looks like Dan Biggar went off with an
1:38:59 > 1:39:06injury. Rhys Patchell, using the aerial route. Amos in pursuit... A
1:39:06 > 1:39:10great catch. Hallam Amos, cannot quite get that pass away this time.
1:39:10 > 1:39:12Help is there.
1:39:18 > 1:39:23It is still on for Wales, Faletau with a chip through. Francois
1:39:23 > 1:39:34Venter. Navidi with a follow-up tackle. Pieter-Steph du Toit,
1:39:34 > 1:39:37hesitating.
1:39:45 > 1:39:52The crowd stirs... What a catch by Hallam Amos. And a great kick. The
1:39:52 > 1:39:56cross kick is a little wider this time. Good competition and a great
1:39:56 > 1:40:07take. Dan Biggar going. But Rhys Patchell is a running threat.Alun
1:40:07 > 1:40:16Wyn Jones, down to Navidi. Intricate by Wales in midfield. And Faletau.
1:40:16 > 1:40:27Navidi. Making room against those big defenders. Hadleigh Parkes, a
1:40:27 > 1:40:30little dig through. Rhys Patchell is in pursuit, and a beautiful pass!
1:40:30 > 1:40:38Evans couldn't quite get it. Advantage to South Africa. One of
1:40:38 > 1:40:49the tries of the season.Advantage, over.I thought again that it was a
1:40:49 > 1:40:54kick and I thought there was a shout of offside?No, it was a South
1:40:54 > 1:40:59African. And it's clearly offside. Clearly offside.Not one of the
1:40:59 > 1:41:03tries of the season, then? The offside of the season!Offside,
1:41:03 > 1:41:10dropped pass. He is a threat, isn't he? Going inside of Patchell.Aaron
1:41:10 > 1:41:15Shingler at the line-out. Parkes to Patchell. Scott Williams on the
1:41:15 > 1:41:18outside turn.
1:41:38 > 1:41:41Rhys Patchell has come on and he seems to be in the groove. This is
1:41:41 > 1:41:51the danger, where South Africa hit you.He is a nuisance, isn't he?
1:41:51 > 1:41:58Marx.Aaron Shingler, gets the pass-through to Andrews.
1:42:04 > 1:42:13Wyn Jones, no change here for Wales. But what about out here? Hallam
1:42:13 > 1:42:24Amos, gets the pass back to Parkes.
1:42:30 > 1:42:40Patchell, but Gelant has read it. Wales just asked the referee to
1:42:40 > 1:42:45check whether the wing was outside of his 22, he wasn't. It was a very
1:42:45 > 1:42:49good parents. It was, but it was brought about by the fact that
1:42:49 > 1:42:52Patchell felt he had no option because Wales hadn't gone forward,
1:42:52 > 1:42:57they went sideways. Not getting over the gain line.He dropped back, read
1:42:57 > 1:43:13the play well, Gelant.From the line-out, Josh Navidi. Aled Davies
1:43:13 > 1:43:18wants to keep this on the field. Does it go far enough? A knock-on
1:43:18 > 1:43:26advantage. The aerial came in general has worked well for Wales.
1:43:26 > 1:43:31On that occasion, you knew that South Africa would be catching. Not
1:43:31 > 1:43:36there first. It isn't about you, it is about the tackle. If I allow the
1:43:36 > 1:43:41tackler in this position, I cannot say to you to play on, you know what
1:43:41 > 1:43:52I mean?I understand.So, it is a 50-50 call. You release.It's a
1:43:52 > 1:43:59brilliant game.He is a presence, on the field.He is a nuisance when you
1:43:59 > 1:44:04play against him. He is always slowing things down, he is a good
1:44:04 > 1:44:15ball carrier.Very much in the mode of... Yourself? Bismarck!The
1:44:15 > 1:44:26outrage of the Welsh captain! He is far too measured...I just think he
1:44:26 > 1:44:37wouldn't have taken that quietly! No!Time to refocus, and South
1:44:37 > 1:44:42Africa, after a shaky start, have certainly a big game. Periods in the
1:44:42 > 1:44:49first half where they were good. Now, they think that they can dig,
1:44:49 > 1:44:54they've got some belief back. They can finish this tour with a good
1:44:54 > 1:44:55result. The scrummage goes around and around
1:44:55 > 1:45:01and with South Africa, a penalty. Jordan is not happy with this. I
1:45:01 > 1:45:09understand. Jerome Garcia, it's well shifted. Not automatically if there
1:45:09 > 1:45:14is a pushback should there be a penalty. Provided everybody stays
1:45:14 > 1:45:20down and bound. Now we mention it, there is the penalty from the scrum.
1:45:20 > 1:45:24They end up in the 22 once again with a catch and drive, which could
1:45:24 > 1:45:29lead to another scrum. Leading to more intense pressure.
1:45:29 > 1:45:34Looking at the attack here... Slightly inside. That's all we need.
1:45:34 > 1:45:37Putting pressure on the left-hand side of the Welsh 's crumb. It is
1:45:37 > 1:45:43now skewed.
1:45:47 > 1:45:58-- Welsh scrum. Malcolm Marx with the throat... -- with the throw, the
1:45:58 > 1:46:08danger man in possession and the maul heading towards the touchline.
1:46:08 > 1:46:13France while Venter, a brilliant tackle by Josh Navidi. Alun Wyn
1:46:13 > 1:46:17Jones cannot touch him now...Steven Kitshoff... No numbers on the
1:46:17 > 1:46:22right-hand sides of that figure. So they go back to the tight side
1:46:22 > 1:46:29through Pollard. They have numbers now. A good pass... Jesse Kriel...
1:46:29 > 1:46:36And it looks like a try. It is! The whistle goes...Again, it's very
1:46:36 > 1:46:48simple and direct. And again, very effective. First, second and third.
1:46:48 > 1:46:52You cannot say anything that South Africa deserve this, the manner in
1:46:52 > 1:46:57which they have changed their application.It was a short side
1:46:57 > 1:47:03defence. Too narrow and creating an overlap. One and running straight
1:47:03 > 1:47:06through, Leigh Halfpenny was very clever. No one on the right-hand
1:47:06 > 1:47:13side. Going left, there he is again. Runs at the inside, that's the right
1:47:13 > 1:47:17way to do it. Make sure he makes the most of the space outside. He does
1:47:17 > 1:47:22not allow the would-be defender to drift onto the next man.
1:47:32 > 1:47:38Wales scored the first three tries of this game. South Africa have
1:47:38 > 1:47:43responded with three of their own and this, Handre Pollard, is to take
1:47:43 > 1:47:49the lead for the first time. Looking good... And it is! South Africa are
1:47:49 > 1:47:59in the lead.Wales do not get stuck in, and they will find themselves
1:47:59 > 1:48:03further out. They need to beat them physically. That is an elbow to the
1:48:03 > 1:48:09head, there. Mohoje. They just got their numbers wrong on the
1:48:09 > 1:48:16right-hand side, as they defend. Patchell restarting. Amos again...
1:48:16 > 1:48:21Following up successfully. Coming back on the South African side.
1:48:21 > 1:48:22Little scraps are going the way of
1:48:28 > 1:48:36Springboks. Rhys Webb is on for Alan Davies. -- Aled Davies. Wales have
1:48:36 > 1:48:38been rocked, they now trail.
1:48:51 > 1:48:57The ball is stolen by Francois Venter. How this game has changed!
1:48:57 > 1:49:03Is that too long? It is, by the scrum-half Ross Cronje.A lot of
1:49:03 > 1:49:07turnover, and a lot of space.Did not need to take that amount of
1:49:07 > 1:49:15risk.With a turnover...A penalty advantage was being played. And it
1:49:15 > 1:49:21is back here. Those forwards would be relieved! You are right, the
1:49:21 > 1:49:25momentum has certainly swung in South Africa's favour. When they
1:49:25 > 1:49:28have had possession, they've made the most of it and come away with
1:49:28 > 1:49:32points.It's very difficult, when you are in this position, you know
1:49:32 > 1:49:36what is happening but to get yourself back into the game, you
1:49:36 > 1:49:40need the ball. You basically need defenders to run out rather than be
1:49:40 > 1:49:46a defender and have a tackle yourself. They need to start
1:49:46 > 1:49:51driving, then there will be trouble. Defending so tightly on the
1:49:51 > 1:49:55right-hand side, a three on one... And a very good finish by Jesse
1:49:55 > 1:49:59Kriel. Defending so tight, especially when South Africa have no
1:49:59 > 1:50:04numbers on the right-hand side. You are right, it's going to be a tough
1:50:04 > 1:50:14one to get back.Mohoje wins, and Marx in possession. The drive
1:50:14 > 1:50:24inevitably comes on. Wyn Jones has to extricate himself. Have Wales
1:50:24 > 1:50:30turned this over? They have, at least at the scrum.Great work by
1:50:30 > 1:50:48Wales to do that. Properly set up. Plaudits must go to Aaron Shingler.
1:50:48 > 1:50:53Or, possibly Faletau?Rhys Webb, talking to his half-back partner,
1:50:53 > 1:51:00Rhys Patchell. He might have a word with the forwards as well? The
1:51:00 > 1:51:04scrummage will be under pressure. That's a problem you turn the ball
1:51:04 > 1:51:08over but now from where you've got that, you could be facing a penalty
1:51:08 > 1:51:13if you don't. If you don't scrummage well, or keep it straight, get the
1:51:13 > 1:51:25ball in and out quickly. That's how you strike.
1:51:26 > 1:51:37Lood de Jager is ready. Having a little breather.
1:51:39 > 1:51:44That is nine penalties to zero. It says it all. The dominance after
1:51:44 > 1:51:52that figure at the set piece.Rhys Webb feeds... Cannot get the ball.
1:51:52 > 1:51:58It's a penalty. South Africa with a little push and pull turn.That is a
1:51:58 > 1:52:06huge relief for Wales. They have a throw in, they can build pressure.
1:52:06 > 1:52:14And between them, the number eight, Faletau is allowed to reach in now.
1:52:14 > 1:52:20Reach in and take the ball away. Make a bridge for the scrum-half for
1:52:20 > 1:52:28Rhys Webb. Much better. Pick it up and drive. You could see that
1:52:28 > 1:52:32Kitshoff was running around there. Wales need to get their second-half
1:52:32 > 1:52:44going. Faletau does well. Rhys Webb... It goes wrong. A knock-on by
1:52:44 > 1:52:54Cory Hill. South Africa are back in position. To trot, the advantage
1:52:54 > 1:52:59played to South Africa. -- Trott.
1:53:04 > 1:53:09It's a good tackle, Hadleigh Parkes,
1:53:14 > 1:53:19Dan du Preez again. This is a very different South African side. Very
1:53:19 > 1:53:23reminiscent of their first-half performance. Still, an advantage
1:53:23 > 1:53:34being played.Recovering well there.
1:53:34 > 1:53:38That is probably a little too far. Halfpenny with plenty of time to
1:53:38 > 1:53:46size things up. Francois Venter, Steff Evans. Wales will want to
1:53:46 > 1:54:00break the game up. Scott Andrews. Jones to Josh Navidi. Patchell a
1:54:00 > 1:54:06knock-on advantage. Or is it deliberate play? Aaron Shingler
1:54:06 > 1:54:14sets. A good pass, Shingler... And Hadleigh Parkes. Still playing
1:54:14 > 1:54:19advantage. Steff Evans... The other advantage is being played. Steff
1:54:19 > 1:54:26Evans, and South Africa had reformed their green wall. Leigh Halfpenny,
1:54:26 > 1:54:37Hadleigh Parkes... Advantage as Wales storm on through Webb. Elliot
1:54:37 > 1:54:44Dee is on for Wales at hooker, a very long advantage being played
1:54:44 > 1:54:50wide! It is a priority for Wales. Do they keep the pressure going? It is
1:54:50 > 1:54:55within Leigh Halfpenny's range.It is a tough kick for Leigh Halfpenny.
1:54:55 > 1:54:59The halfway line, 50 metres in. A tough kick. They haven't had
1:54:59 > 1:55:08possession for a while. If he thinks he can nail it, you give it to him.
1:55:08 > 1:55:12We are into the final quarter, that is the first passage of play that
1:55:12 > 1:55:17Wales have had in the second half... That is a brilliant kick by
1:55:17 > 1:55:27Patchell.A very good kick. A new hooker for Wales, Elliot Dee of the
1:55:27 > 1:55:37Dragons.The communication and execution was spot on. It was a good
1:55:37 > 1:55:43start.Faletau with the catch, and Dee goes in. No change out of the
1:55:43 > 1:55:52drive yet. A few centimetres forward... Rhys Webb says there
1:55:52 > 1:56:01might be something here, where they can pick up momentum. Certainly is,
1:56:01 > 1:56:07Wales do have momentum but now they have to be careful. That's the
1:56:07 > 1:56:12danger. You've got to make your call. A good drive, going forward
1:56:12 > 1:56:17but you've got to be controlling and assess where your opposition is.
1:56:17 > 1:56:26Once you drop it, it is held up. They have a strong scrum. This
1:56:26 > 1:56:31should be easy for South Africa now. I got smoked with a shoulder charge,
1:56:31 > 1:56:40no arms.Alun Wyn Jones, claiming he was taken out in the build-up for
1:56:40 > 1:56:45the tribe. He was out of that right hands defensive situation, and it
1:56:45 > 1:56:50will be interesting to have a look. He was smashed in the face by Kolisi
1:56:50 > 1:56:57at the start of the second half, and nobody noticed. You were saying in
1:56:57 > 1:57:04the studio about a smash of the shoulder into the head. Kolisi was
1:57:04 > 1:57:11the culprit on that occasion. REFEREE:Shift and turn...There is
1:57:11 > 1:57:19the try. This will be interesting to see, this is the Jesse Kriel try,
1:57:19 > 1:57:27somewhere before that, Alun Wyn Jones is taken out.You know what? I
1:57:27 > 1:57:35don't think there is anything in that, particularly. It is so hard to
1:57:35 > 1:57:41spot, live, isn't it? If that was a slow motion... You would go, well...
1:57:41 > 1:57:44If it looks like that in slow motion, which makes it look a lot
1:57:44 > 1:57:53worse, I do not think it was anything.Low scrimmage.Wales in
1:57:53 > 1:57:57the right position, they've got a bit of momentum. Out Dan Biggar,
1:57:57 > 1:58:03injured and not going back. -- outcomes Dan Biggar.
1:58:16 > 1:58:21The South African scrum has been in movable all afternoon. And it is
1:58:21 > 1:58:30again...Nine, nine!
1:58:39 > 1:58:43Well worked, it still leaves Wales with the throw in an South African
1:58:43 > 1:58:53territory.
1:58:56 > 1:59:00Aaron Shingler at the front is the target. Webb with a dummy, nearly
1:59:00 > 1:59:05opened up for him but again, the South African defenders have closed
1:59:05 > 1:59:18in on him. Cory Hill, Scott Andrews. Picking up. Faletau to Shingler, and
1:59:18 > 1:59:23float will help Wales... Shingler to Faletau. The position in the centre
1:59:23 > 1:59:32of the field. Hadleigh Parkes, throwing back.
1:59:39 > 1:59:46Josh Navidi, Kelly C cannot make the tackle. Up to the 22... WHISTLE
1:59:46 > 1:59:59It is a penalty to Wales, in front of the posts. REFEREE:You are fine.
1:59:59 > 2:00:09Seven, you are in.He worked hard for that penalty. They just get
2:00:09 > 2:00:17their noses in front...A good run by Navidi, and powerful.I think he
2:00:17 > 2:00:24is in again, Marsh.Steph du Toit not running away there. You've got
2:00:24 > 2:00:32to make an effort there. In front of the sticks.
2:00:32 > 2:00:34The first one very clear, not just
2:00:34 > 2:00:40The first one very clear, not just like this. He killed the tempo. This
2:00:40 > 2:00:43is very important, not just that they could take the lead but it
2:00:43 > 2:00:50gives Wales reward for their efforts of the last five minutes which
2:00:50 > 2:00:52should psychologically stabilise them. They have been under severe
2:00:52 > 2:00:56pressure for most of this half.
2:01:02 > 2:01:14This for the lead. Wales in the lead. 24-22. I feel there is more to
2:01:14 > 2:01:22come in this game.Yes, I think there is plenty of time left. He
2:01:22 > 2:01:25loves a drop goal, doesn't he?
2:01:30 > 2:01:34More changes for South Africa, Trevor Nyakane comes on into the
2:01:34 > 2:01:44front row.Quite a big call when you have been dominant.Steff Evans.
2:01:44 > 2:01:50Can't get away from Pieter-Steph du Toit.Good chase, that is.
2:01:54 > 2:01:59Wales have to be careful with their kick-off reception and exit.
2:01:59 > 2:02:08Patchell goes for...Good kick. Distance downfield, Andries Coetzee
2:02:08 > 2:02:14under orders to put it up in the air, disobeys and tries to run. And
2:02:14 > 2:02:22presents Pollard... Well picked up, Francois Venter.
2:02:27 > 2:02:34Du Toit takes it into the Welsh half. Nyakane.
2:02:39 > 2:02:46Pollard. Coetzee. Rhys Webb, has it in his grasp.
2:02:50 > 2:02:56Wyn Jones with the tackle, Elliot Dee arrives as well. It changes
2:02:56 > 2:03:01direction. Leyds, Kolisi... The acting skipper, Steff Evans,
2:03:01 > 2:03:06cumbersome and make the tackle but South Africa on the charge again
2:03:06 > 2:03:10through the highly influential Malcolm Marx. It's come away on the
2:03:10 > 2:03:19Welsh side. Faletau scoops up Navidi. They can't kick straight
2:03:19 > 2:03:29out. Marx knew that, kept it downfield comic actor Tim feel
2:03:29 > 2:03:35Gelant back to Pollard. -- kept it downfield, kept it infield.Good
2:03:35 > 2:03:39result for Wales, they were under the cosh but he was isolated, Marx.
2:03:39 > 2:03:46It was a great turnover. I think it was Wyn Jones. There he is, just
2:03:46 > 2:03:52watch, he goes in, grabbed the ball, and that was crucial because the
2:03:52 > 2:03:56pressure was building. Brilliant long kick again, good chase. They
2:03:56 > 2:04:05will be happy with the result, halfway line.Time off South Africa
2:04:05 > 2:04:13to make more changes. Elton Jantjies is coming on instead of Andrei
2:04:13 > 2:04:22Pollard. Well, it won't get any tighter with Jantjies on the field
2:04:22 > 2:04:26-- in place of Handre Pollard.
2:04:29 > 2:04:38Change at scrum-half as well. Schreuder is on. First touch was
2:04:38 > 2:04:44Schreuder, first touch for Jantjies, hard and fast to Kriel. Leyds.
2:04:47 > 2:04:52Steffan Evans goes in for the ball. South Africa hang onto it, just. Du
2:04:52 > 2:04:55Toit.
2:04:58 > 2:05:08Schreuder.Wales lucky not to give a penalty away there.Nyakane tries to
2:05:08 > 2:05:12fend off the Welsh captain, who stands his ground.
2:05:17 > 2:05:22Jantjies. Gelant against Patchell, Patchell does well to get back. We
2:05:22 > 2:05:31have seen how fast the winger is. Good tackle, but is.South Africa so
2:05:31 > 2:05:37close. Now... Nyakane.
2:05:42 > 2:05:50-- good tackle, that is.Francois Venter aiming for that far corner.
2:05:50 > 2:05:59Now Du Preez tries to get the overhead pass. More forwards weight
2:05:59 > 2:06:12here. Kitshoff. De Jager on his shoulder. Jantjies. Kriel. Jantjies
2:06:12 > 2:06:28again, Leyds. Take some pulling down. Does Dillyn Leyds. Kitshoff.
2:06:31 > 2:06:37Gelant. Jantjies knocks it on. Turnover ball for Wales. There is
2:06:37 > 2:06:44still work to do. They know they have an advantage. They probably
2:06:44 > 2:06:49went really want the scrummage. Faletau brings it out -- will not
2:06:49 > 2:06:53really want the scrummage. When you look at the line-out option, they
2:06:53 > 2:07:03could just keep it on the park. It is out of play. Relief for Wales. We
2:07:03 > 2:07:09saw the two sides of Elton Jantjies there. Comes over immediately, a
2:07:09 > 2:07:13fair bit more spark to the backline from him but then possibly an
2:07:13 > 2:07:20off-load in a situation where they might not have tried it.South
2:07:20 > 2:07:28Africa are off quickly. Jantjies Deventer. -- Jantjies to Francois
2:07:28 > 2:07:32Venter. Pieter-Steph du Toit. He has done all the ball carrying in the
2:07:32 > 2:07:36second half, not all of it but a whole lot of it.He has done a lot
2:07:36 > 2:07:41of ball carrying as well, absentee, Kitshoff? South Africa playing in
2:07:41 > 2:07:52the right areas now. Oh...Patchell. So, very scrappy, just a chance for
2:07:52 > 2:07:57Wales, and Elton Jantjies knows, he knows...He is one of those players,
2:07:57 > 2:08:01he is flaky, either brilliant or poor, and he has made a couple of
2:08:01 > 2:08:05big errors since coming on.When he gets the forward ball he is
2:08:05 > 2:08:09brilliant.He is going forward Ben but that wasn't a brilliant. He took
2:08:09 > 2:08:16his eyes off the ball, defences were up, five minutes left. Gives Wales
2:08:16 > 2:08:20the opportunity to clear. Wales need to keep them away from corner
2:08:20 > 2:08:33kicking range, you know?Josh Navidi goes off. Tackle on, Dan Lydiate. --
2:08:33 > 2:08:37a tackling player comes on. A slender two point lead to protect
2:08:37 > 2:08:42going into the last five and a half minutes.Wales need structure and
2:08:42 > 2:08:49composure now. They are in the right areas of the pitch. Make South
2:08:49 > 2:08:57Africa work. If they are going to get back to lead this match. Let
2:08:57 > 2:09:15them go from deep.REFEREE:You are too close.Changes in the South
2:09:15 > 2:09:19African team, Bundy is not hooker along with Trevor Nyakane, can the
2:09:19 > 2:09:23new members of the front row put the same pressure on this Welsh
2:09:23 > 2:09:33scrummage? -- Mbonambi is not hooker. -- on as hooker.
2:09:38 > 2:09:44REFEREE:It is not a really good picture from this.
2:09:51 > 2:09:58Dan Lydiate. On the openside.
2:10:03 > 2:10:11Rhys Webb will want to get this away quickly. This is where I don't
2:10:11 > 2:10:13understand the South African front row substitutions. They have been on
2:10:13 > 2:10:19top all game with the clear pressure, quite rightly so they were
2:10:19 > 2:10:23dominant in the front row, and now Wales have the option. You cannot
2:10:23 > 2:10:28tell who is taking this scrum down because both sides going down. Say,
2:10:28 > 2:10:32it is not our fault because that dominance was there before, it is
2:10:32 > 2:10:38not there because they have changed the front row, so...
2:10:43 > 2:10:47Pieter-Steph du Toit, who started on the flank of South Africa, has gone
2:10:47 > 2:10:52into the second row. Wales actually clear that ball very well and Rhys
2:10:52 > 2:10:58Webb threads it downfield. That is a wonderful kick by Rhys Webb. A set
2:10:58 > 2:11:08piece which has been creeping all day.Exactly direct. The execution.
2:11:08 > 2:11:12That's great game management, but also, Faletau taking the ball up and
2:11:12 > 2:11:16making it easy for this man.
2:11:22 > 2:11:28Mbonambi will throw, but what a different place it is.
2:11:32 > 2:11:42De Jager with the win. Kolisi charges up towards the 22, doesn't
2:11:42 > 2:11:49get there. Jantjies...Oh!It is three minutes to go, man of the
2:11:49 > 2:11:53match time.I think Malcolm Marx has been brilliant, Faletau has been
2:11:53 > 2:11:58brilliant but for me on his debut, Hadleigh Parkes is my man of the
2:11:58 > 2:12:02match. He has had a solid performance and two tries. There he
2:12:02 > 2:12:12is.
2:12:14 > 2:12:19He must say to himself, work yet to do.Yes!LAUGHTER Don't celebrate
2:12:19 > 2:12:24yet. Lydiate comes away with the ball.
2:12:24 > 2:12:29Here is Rhys Patchell, Hallam Amos off his wing.
2:12:34 > 2:12:41Dan Lydiate picks up, passes to Cory Hill. Patchell waits, Scott Williams
2:12:41 > 2:12:50charges. This is where South Africa have been good at holding Wales up,
2:12:50 > 2:12:57in those direct situations. The kicking game, which was so
2:12:57 > 2:13:05profitable for Wales, has now given way to the countdown to 80 minutes
2:13:05 > 2:13:10on the blue clock. Penalty advantage to South Africa. Turnover at the
2:13:10 > 2:13:12very least.
2:13:15 > 2:13:25Mohoje led the charge, Jantjies, Venter.Good defence.This is
2:13:25 > 2:13:33Lukhanyo Am on the field. Another replacement. To the penalty, and
2:13:33 > 2:13:40minute and a quarter left.Crucial that South Africa make a lot of
2:13:40 > 2:13:48ground.Yes.And make touch here. Yes, this is where...Uzair Cassiem
2:13:48 > 2:13:53is on for South Africa, Donovan, goes.Different mentality, in your
2:13:53 > 2:13:58own 22 you throw the ball and take risks but it is great defence by
2:13:58 > 2:14:02Wales. Now the penalty, put them in, the penalty in kick range, so
2:14:02 > 2:14:11discipline will have to be a priority for Wales.Well, the only
2:14:11 > 2:14:23person immune to all the stress! Bongi Mbonambi, and it is quick to
2:14:23 > 2:14:25Steven Kitshoff. Schreuder.
2:14:30 > 2:14:35Soon we will be into overtime. Mohoje Drive song, Schreuder checks
2:14:35 > 2:14:43where everybody is. Here they are. Jantjies. Scott Andrews. He has been
2:14:43 > 2:14:50on for 80 as a prop. Pieter-Steph du Toit. Cory Hill hangs onto an ankle,
2:14:50 > 2:14:54du Toit gets back up, turned over, Rhys Patchell can kick it off the
2:14:54 > 2:15:04park. It is still in play, no, says the Welsh crowd. Oh, yes, say South
2:15:04 > 2:15:15Africa. Wales hold him up. Whistle goes. Wales advantage, whistle, or
2:15:15 > 2:15:19Welsh win, two out of four for Wales in the autumn series, and that is
2:15:19 > 2:15:27the mood at the end of four had Test matches. Exhaustion for the captain,
2:15:27 > 2:15:34delight in the crowd, Wales have beaten South Africa 24-22.
2:15:36 > 2:15:38CHEERING
2:15:38 > 2:15:44CHEERING.
2:15:50 > 2:15:56STUDIO: What annoys on the final whistle. I thought this was the game
2:15:56 > 2:15:59nobody wanted, 66,000 people in the Principality Stadium love that from
2:15:59 > 2:16:04the first moment of the last in terms of drama. Compelling
2:16:04 > 2:16:10entertainment and Wales got the win they deserved in the end. They were
2:16:10 > 2:16:14desperate for it as well. The caption at the start of the show
2:16:14 > 2:16:17showed all the players Wales were missing so hanging on in the second
2:16:17 > 2:16:18half like
2:16:18 > 2:16:20missing so hanging on in the second half like they did, they went behind
2:16:20 > 2:16:23and showed fantastic character to win the penalty then for me the
2:16:23 > 2:16:26defence had character in the last ten minutes was outstanding, they
2:16:26 > 2:16:30scrambled well and one turnovers. Not an amazing performance but a big
2:16:30 > 2:16:35result for the Welsh team.Bobby, midway through the second-half you
2:16:35 > 2:16:40thought you might have won it.For me it didn't change the outcome. I
2:16:40 > 2:16:44was so disappointed with the first half, nothing they did could have
2:16:44 > 2:16:47brought it back for me. The momentum started to go their way a little,
2:16:47 > 2:16:51maybe they should capitalise on that. Here is the man of the match
2:16:51 > 2:17:01and he would have thought it, Sonia. Hadley Parkes, three years ago you
2:17:01 > 2:17:05were on a sheep farm, could you believe this?Dream come true. Never
2:17:05 > 2:17:09thought this day would come. Humbled by the opportunity and it is a huge
2:17:09 > 2:17:13privilege and an honour to play in front of a fantastic crowd at a
2:17:13 > 2:17:18fantastic stadium, it is a lovely crowd, so yes.Described your
2:17:18 > 2:17:22emotions as you took the ball from Taulupe Faletau and were over the
2:17:22 > 2:17:28line on your debut.A fantastic pass, skilled work, he is a
2:17:28 > 2:17:32fantastic player, so to get a try is nice and to get double, you dream of
2:17:32 > 2:17:37these kinds of day so very happy. The anthems are always emotional
2:17:37 > 2:17:41here in Cardiff so what was it like to stand there and sing loud and
2:17:41 > 2:17:47proud?It was an amazing feeling. You always read and hear about
2:17:47 > 2:17:50Cardiff Arms Park or the Principality Stadium, how emotional
2:17:50 > 2:17:56the Welsh people are, and is I made a hard effort to learn the outcome
2:17:56 > 2:18:00and hopefully I didn't stab it up. You didn't, congratulations, man of
2:18:00 > 2:18:03the match on your debut, I will bring in your captain, Alun Wyn
2:18:03 > 2:18:10Jones, how much did you need that win in the context? We wanted to
2:18:10 > 2:18:16finish 2017 for the fans. It has been interesting from our point of
2:18:16 > 2:18:21view in the autumn, we needed to cap it off today and I am proud of the
2:18:21 > 2:18:24squad and the character we showed to come back in the second-half.South
2:18:24 > 2:18:28Africa had a purple patch, 19 unanswered points, why do you think
2:18:28 > 2:18:32you struggled in that phase. It is always difficult coming out of the
2:18:32 > 2:18:37half but we had a purple patch of the first whistle and we are proud
2:18:37 > 2:18:42that we came back. We probably missed a few opportunities but we
2:18:42 > 2:18:46needed to finish on a high.A lot of players injured or unavailable. What
2:18:46 > 2:18:50does it say about the sport that you came through at the end?We are
2:18:50 > 2:18:54disappointed in the results, some of them, but positive going forward, we
2:18:54 > 2:18:58will not shy away from the fact that we lost two from four but we are
2:18:58 > 2:19:06positive and will try to change things.Thank you.Much celebration
2:19:06 > 2:19:07for the Welsh
2:19:07 > 2:19:08things.Thank you.Much celebration for the Welsh fans here today as we
2:19:08 > 2:19:13look at some facts and figures of this final match of what has been a
2:19:13 > 2:19:17really intriguing autumn series of matches not just here but
2:19:17 > 2:19:21Twickenham, the Aviva Stadium and Merrifield as well as here at the
2:19:21 > 2:19:24Principality Stadium. Jeremy, what was your take on the quality of the
2:19:24 > 2:19:29match overall.Second division at best.
2:19:29 > 2:19:31match overall.Second division at best. It was entertaining, I am not
2:19:31 > 2:19:35taking that from anybody. If you are neutral we have seen a good number
2:19:35 > 2:19:40of tries, high scoring at times and high pace but the error count, 13
2:19:40 > 2:19:44from South Africa, seven from Wales so not great skills.Lletget a South
2:19:44 > 2:19:51African perspective on the result, Sonia.A few dejected faces as your
2:19:51 > 2:19:53team-mates troop off, described the level of disappointment at not
2:19:53 > 2:19:58ending the store with a victory. We are very disappointed, we really
2:19:58 > 2:20:03wanted to finish of the season, it has been a tough season. The way we
2:20:03 > 2:20:07started today wasn't good enough. We were chasing the game from the first
2:20:07 > 2:20:12half but I thought we came back very hard in the second half and were
2:20:12 > 2:20:18more physical. Just making mistakes is difficult. You got your noses in
2:20:18 > 2:20:23front towards the end. Why couldn't you quite close it out?I think
2:20:23 > 2:20:29patience, you know? When we got to the half we make silly mistakes, and
2:20:29 > 2:20:33you have to be disciplined here especially at the game, you have to
2:20:33 > 2:20:36give the discipline. We made silly mistakes and each guy make silly
2:20:36 > 2:20:41mistakes and it leads to another. It's all about discipline and
2:20:41 > 2:20:44maturity. We will learn from this and it will make us better this
2:20:44 > 2:20:52year.Thank you for your time.We saw huge frustration from Alistair
2:20:52 > 2:20:56Coetzee as the ball was declared dead on the match was gone. Is he
2:20:56 > 2:21:03gone?I mean... I am not close enough, to the corridors of power,
2:21:03 > 2:21:06but I imagine tremendous pressure is on him. We have said a number of
2:21:06 > 2:21:10times, this is a young side, but that first half and a large portion
2:21:10 > 2:21:15of the second one not good enough at this level. Jeremy has mentioned it,
2:21:15 > 2:21:19these are professionals who are coached and paid to be putting a
2:21:19 > 2:21:24high quality of rugby on the field, and see a Kolisi, saying every time
2:21:24 > 2:21:28we got in their half there was a mistake, in pressured situations we
2:21:28 > 2:21:32made mistakes. If I was one of these players I would be disappointed with
2:21:32 > 2:21:36the level of finishing they have gone through here. They came all the
2:21:36 > 2:21:39way back, gave themselves the opportunity but winning is a habit
2:21:39 > 2:21:43and unfortunately so is losing. They are becoming that kind of team who
2:21:43 > 2:21:55are not winning these tight games. Does the victory for Wales paper
2:21:55 > 2:21:58over a few cracks, Martyn?I am not sure about that. They have tried to
2:21:58 > 2:22:00evolve their game this autumn, there is no doubt about that. That was
2:22:00 > 2:22:03built on guts today. Ultimately they won because of their kicking game.
2:22:03 > 2:22:06They didn't score a try after the 38th minute and that was a charge,
2:22:06 > 2:22:11so they have a long way to go. We seem to have more depth in our squad
2:22:11 > 2:22:14than we have had for a long time so the Six Nations will tell whether we
2:22:14 > 2:22:19have papered over the cracks or not. Some key moments in the second half,
2:22:19 > 2:22:23turnover is close to the Welsh line, at moments like this,
2:22:23 > 2:22:24turnover is close to the Welsh line, at moments like this, matches swing.
2:22:24 > 2:22:28This was on the 70th minute and when South Africa had all the momentum.
2:22:28 > 2:22:34Wyn Jones, it is a grey area, he has timed it superbly, got over the
2:22:34 > 2:22:45ball, won the turnover and small things like that
2:22:46 > 2:22:48make a huge difference. Again, defence from the inside, Wyn Jones
2:22:48 > 2:22:50again and Rhys Webb with a big impact when he came on.
2:22:50 > 2:22:51again and Rhys Webb with a big impact when he came on. Look at the
2:22:51 > 2:22:54numbers for the Welsh pack, 3-8, all in double figures tackling so you
2:22:54 > 2:22:55can't fault their characters. Absolutely. The characters stood
2:22:55 > 2:23:00out, but for me you talk about the tactics incorrect, you have a man on
2:23:00 > 2:23:03debut from the left wing plane fly half, passing inside the fly half
2:23:03 > 2:23:09who was off the bench not getting the ball. There is something wrong.
2:23:09 > 2:23:13The coach always get the blame for that, and ultimately sometimes loses
2:23:13 > 2:23:17his job as a result. Isn't that the player's responsibility or whoever
2:23:17 > 2:23:23is the leader of that by division, to say, no, you should be there?
2:23:23 > 2:23:27Absolutely but I don't think that is built on the field. It is built as
2:23:27 > 2:23:31you grow as a squad and start to get to know each other and whose role it
2:23:31 > 2:23:36is.It ultimately goes to the coach because he selects the players. If
2:23:36 > 2:23:46you select
2:23:49 > 2:23:51players who keep making mistakes and can't make decisions or selection
2:23:51 > 2:23:54policy is wrong and needs to change. As a Welshman, when they sub Pollard
2:23:54 > 2:23:57for Jantjies Yuvraj your hands because Pollard was taking the game.
2:23:57 > 2:23:58With five minutes ago, big choral awful substitution.Inexperience
2:23:58 > 2:24:03bothsides. Neither side could steer a comfortable position. South Africa
2:24:03 > 2:24:07got into a winning position and because of a lack of experience
2:24:07 > 2:24:13couldn't take it home.We sail from this game is complex and a lot of
2:24:13 > 2:24:17laws can be interpreted differently, not least foul play, obviously. If
2:24:17 > 2:24:21somebody goes for a yellow card it has a major impact because
2:24:21 > 2:24:24invariably teams scored tries in that period when somebody is down to
2:24:24 > 2:24:3214. Is this yellow card?Where? That, yes!If that is a yellow card,
2:24:32 > 2:24:39then the other two, the one from Evans and Shingler, if one is not
2:24:39 > 2:24:43given and the others aren't, that is OK, but if one is you expect them or
2:24:43 > 2:24:48to begin. We just saw inconsistency. The concern is, you could give
2:24:48 > 2:24:52yellow card but you could end up with 12 on 12 which you don't want
2:24:52 > 2:24:57to see. It is a physical game. One moment slowdown sometimes it looks
2:24:57 > 2:25:03worse, but it is such a grey area. Mohoje, that was yellow. That was
2:25:03 > 2:25:11the first one we saw, straight in. But so was Shingler, we could
2:25:11 > 2:25:18have... You could yellow card every ruck then. But also the sprinkle box
2:25:18 > 2:25:23could have, would have, should have, did they? No. You have to look at
2:25:23 > 2:25:27yourself in the result more than anything else. And with you. The
2:25:27 > 2:25:31Springboks had, you can go back to the start when Wales had a chance
2:25:31 > 2:25:35after nine minutes to score a third try Under 21-0 after nine minutes
2:25:35 > 2:25:39you would have thought it would have been game over.Ultimately it would
2:25:39 > 2:25:46have been. And negative for Wales was they created two fantastic tries
2:25:46 > 2:25:51from kicks, one was charged down, again, we didn't stress or finish
2:25:51 > 2:25:54anything off apart from those and create many try scoring
2:25:54 > 2:25:59opportunities.I wouldn't be too worried about those insomuch as it
2:25:59 > 2:26:03was good execution, and finishing. You could question the creation, but
2:26:03 > 2:26:10I thought that was clever, smart play, they did simple things very
2:26:10 > 2:26:13well, they went straight and forward, very direct, which they
2:26:13 > 2:26:18haven't been in the past games. The Welsh team walking around now in a
2:26:18 > 2:26:23semi-lap of honour. If we were doing in end of autumn report on Wales,
2:26:23 > 2:26:28what would it be, Martyn? What grade? I would give it to be. Purely
2:26:28 > 2:26:36for the fact... -- a B grade. Look at the players missing, a small
2:26:36 > 2:26:39nation with a small playing Paul, there is competition for places
2:26:39 > 2:26:43going into the Six Nations. Six Nations Rugby is totally different
2:26:43 > 2:26:47to autumn international rugby so I wouldn't write us off.I wouldn't
2:26:47 > 2:26:54write Wales. As we have chatted about a little, compare it to how
2:26:54 > 2:26:56Australia have done against other sites, South Africa have done, and
2:26:56 > 2:27:02you look at Wales and think they are far behind the likes of Ireland,
2:27:02 > 2:27:08England and even Scotland's.I wouldn't say we're behind Scotland,
2:27:08 > 2:27:14that's the opening game.Heading towards a B minus grade?See, that's
2:27:14 > 2:27:19generous.Where are South Africa at the end of a long season? It's
2:27:19 > 2:27:23always dangerous when you say the team has achieved first, and the
2:27:23 > 2:27:27first has been record defeats to Ireland, to New Zealand, it hasn't
2:27:27 > 2:27:31been a great season like that but they have squeezed out Wales from
2:27:31 > 2:27:35scoring four tries against them like you said it would be the first time
2:27:35 > 2:27:40that had happened. So the defence in the second half better. I would say
2:27:40 > 2:27:45C- for the South African side. With the talent they have got on their
2:27:45 > 2:27:48ability to achieve in this space, South Africa will be disappointed.
2:27:48 > 2:27:52So you will get the last word here but when we are back in the
2:27:52 > 2:27:55springtime for the Six Nations who wins the Six Nations given what we
2:27:55 > 2:27:58have seen?Not Wales!LAUGHTER
2:27:58 > 2:28:00wins the Six Nations given what we have seen?Not Wales!LAUGHTER.
2:28:00 > 2:28:05Martyn?At the moment England. Nobody touches them at the minute.
2:28:05 > 2:28:10Bobby?For me I love the way Scotland played Australia, they are
2:28:10 > 2:28:13outstanding, but the Irish side, a long way between Ireland and
2:28:13 > 2:28:17England, they are ahead of the pack at the moment. If Scotland win the
2:28:17 > 2:28:21opening game. They come Wayne to the occasion.Great fan of the last four
2:28:21 > 2:28:27weeks. You can say for certain that what we have seen over the last four
2:28:27 > 2:28:30weeks as international rugby and rich form and we will see your for
2:28:30 > 2:28:42Wales against Scotland, if you're counting, in 63 days. Goodbye.
