:00:55. > :01:00.Competition Competitions capture the imagination. It is the fanciful idea

:01:00. > :01:06.of the underdog snatching victory from the favourite. #8 After two

:01:06. > :01:12.weeks of racing Emirates Team New Zealand are anchored on a match

:01:12. > :01:18.point. They sail into a huge lead. The Kiwis now just... Despite

:01:18. > :01:21.trailing, Oracle Team USA were confident they could pull off a

:01:21. > :01:27.comeback. The Americans will come to the line and they will extend this

:01:27. > :01:31.series. Oracle Team US gets the win in race 12. From the start we were

:01:31. > :01:35.off the post. It is like we get the best out of our people when they are

:01:35. > :01:41.under that sort of pressure. Say they a week is a long time in

:01:41. > :01:46.politics. Try sailing! Bad luck and weather have conspired against Dean

:01:46. > :01:51.Barker and his crew. Their commanding lead has slowly eroded.

:01:51. > :01:56.This is the third race now that we have been in the race and haven't

:01:56. > :02:00.won. We can easily get this done. It is just a case of going out there

:02:00. > :02:04.again and racing hard. Now with the finishing line in sight, it is an

:02:05. > :02:08.intriguing match play situation - it is anybody's game. Thanks largely to

:02:08. > :02:13.intriguing match play situation - it a rejuvenated American crew.

:02:13. > :02:19.It is full throttle for us. We don't have an option. The boys are almost

:02:20. > :02:25.- it sounds crazy - but they are almost excited. One American defeat

:02:25. > :02:30.and this 34th America's Cup will be heading to New Zealand.

:02:30. > :02:34.??FORCEWHITE It is becoming the longest America's Cup regatta in

:02:34. > :02:39.history. San Francisco Bay has produced everything oh ea stunning

:02:39. > :02:42.background, poor weather conditions and on Sunday there was talk of

:02:42. > :02:47.stopping the race for a whale I is proving to be a frustrating time for

:02:47. > :02:50.both teams. The Americans are desperate to keep their winning

:02:50. > :02:55.momentum going, whereas the Kiwis and their fans have been on stand by

:02:56. > :03:00.to celebrate for almost a week. Dean Barker desperately trying to grind

:03:01. > :03:03.out a win to satisfy the four-and-a-half million sailing

:03:03. > :03:08.fanatics back home. Their decade-long march to return the cup

:03:08. > :03:13.to Auckland has faltered with the finishing line in sight. It may have

:03:13. > :03:19.been a blessing in disguise for us as a chance to re-group after the

:03:19. > :03:23.disappointment of the day before. So upbeat, so excited to be out there

:03:23. > :03:25.sailing. We couldn't be happier to be here racing in these conditions.

:03:25. > :03:38.We are looking forward to today. The Americans are hours in the boat

:03:38. > :03:45.shed every night, fine tuning their boat. It is paying off. The team is

:03:45. > :03:50.quicker. The team transformed. Today is obviously another big day

:03:50. > :03:55.for the cup. We have been up against it for the past few days. We have

:03:55. > :03:59.managed to hang in there. We are enjoying the challenge of stopping

:03:59. > :04:03.the Kiwis from winning it. The more wins we can take off them, the more

:04:03. > :04:07.pressure it puts on them. We are really enjoying taking one race at a

:04:08. > :04:12.time and focussing on that one race to get each point we can.

:04:12. > :04:16.The America's Cup is entering unchartered waters. No-one thought

:04:16. > :04:23.it would take this long. But its development has chaptered

:04:23. > :04:27.the imagination of everybody. Despite it favouring the Kiwis,

:04:27. > :04:31.there is debate over who will win. For the 14th race in this great

:04:31. > :04:33.story, there are no real weather problems, despite the clouds, let's

:04:33. > :04:47.cross to our commentators. It is good out here. Good current,

:04:47. > :04:51.good wind speed. Here is the problem, however - the fog keeps

:04:51. > :04:56.coming in and out, which will make it difficult to read the wind on the

:04:56. > :05:07.water, putting a premium on the tacticians, Ben Ainslie and Ray

:05:07. > :05:12.Davis. Oracle USA has done six practise starts. Thanks Gary. Let's

:05:12. > :05:15.get the tide and course report from Ken. It is the end of the flood

:05:15. > :05:21.tide. This is something that we have not seen in quite a while. We have

:05:21. > :05:25.been dealing with ebb tides, the tide going out for almost a week.

:05:25. > :05:30.This is different. It is different off the starting line. What happens

:05:30. > :05:36.is that poor tack entry, the entry the Oracle will have in both starts

:05:36. > :05:38.to negated by this tide - the weather up to the Golden Gate Bridge

:05:38. > :05:42.actually comes into play more often weather up to the Golden Gate Bridge

:05:42. > :05:46.in this tide circumstance. So, look for things to be changed up a bit. A

:05:46. > :05:51.little different from what we have seen in the past. As usual starts

:05:51. > :05:57.off with that exciting blasted to number one. Very often that is the

:05:57. > :06:00.race right there, Todd. We have seen more changes in lead in this

:06:00. > :06:04.America's Cup than any other America's Cup in history. Look for

:06:04. > :06:06.that to happen again - Oracle needs two races. There is just no other

:06:06. > :06:14.way around it. The defenders of the kup make their

:06:14. > :06:20.move. -- Cup make their move. . They were

:06:20. > :06:23.dangerous dangerously close. They thought May be early there and

:06:24. > :06:26.slowed the boat down at the last second. It does not look like it has

:06:26. > :06:45.made a difference though. Day 12. Oracle Team USA must win to

:06:45. > :06:55.keep this regatta going. One more loss and the cup will go to the

:06:55. > :07:00.Kiwis. You heard the comment from sling

:07:00. > :07:02.sling - good one bro! There doesn't seem to be a lot of pressure from

:07:02. > :07:16.these guys. There you saw a tack inside of a

:07:17. > :07:22.gybe. These guys are staying upcurrent a little bit, towards the

:07:22. > :07:27.bridge. Oracle is dangerously close to the line here. They have a lot of

:07:27. > :07:29.time to kill. They said they have 30 to kill to the line - that is a lot

:07:29. > :07:38.of time. Gapping off by Team New Zealand.

:07:38. > :07:44.They are trying to get to the weather end. Have they shown their

:07:44. > :07:51.hand too early? This will be a time and distance start.

:07:51. > :08:25.Day 12, race 14 is on. It is the same thing again - Oracle

:08:25. > :08:29.is in the favourite lured position. The other boat has to stay out of

:08:29. > :08:35.the way. They will avoid the mark again. This is typical strategy.

:08:35. > :08:39.What they are doing, is the Americans are pushing the Kiwis off

:08:39. > :08:42.course as far thaz K They will try and get -- as far as they can. They

:08:42. > :08:52.will try and get them slow. Remember, the boundary will come

:08:52. > :08:54.into place fairly shortly. Simultaneous gybe - who can do it

:08:54. > :09:05.better? I think actually New Zealand slowed

:09:05. > :09:10.down on that gybe on purpose, to make sure they were not committed to

:09:10. > :09:13.Oracle who was the right-of-way boat in that position. They have to get

:09:13. > :09:15.down to this mark, obviously. They have to leave the mark to their

:09:15. > :09:32.right side. The lead is six seconds to Team USA.

:09:32. > :09:41.The Kiwis are to their left-hand side and now the tactics begin.

:09:41. > :09:46.Oracle Team USA, three knots faster than the Kiwis. They could be

:09:46. > :09:50.sailing again. It is not like traditional sailing where the puffs

:09:50. > :09:57.come from behind the boat. They are dead in front of the boat, so very

:09:57. > :10:03.often the boat ahead has the advantage, just by sailing into a

:10:03. > :10:06.better breeze. So the second comes here on race

:10:06. > :10:12.number 14. Again, the Americans have So the second comes here on race

:10:12. > :10:17.a lead of 125 metres, as we check in on the water. Looking at the wind on

:10:17. > :10:22.the water here, it gets lighter as they get close tore the gate. Good

:10:22. > :10:28.pressure, more wind will be a premium. You want a gybe when you

:10:28. > :10:34.are in the stronger wind, not when it is light.

:10:34. > :10:38.I love the way Oracle Team USA has improved here over the past week and

:10:38. > :10:42.out of the textbook, stay between your competitor and the mark. The

:10:42. > :10:46.mistake both have made in previous races - they are not making that

:10:46. > :10:50.mistake now. What do you think of gate selection? What side do you

:10:50. > :10:56.think the Americans will go for? Ben Ainslie and Team USA has the chose,

:10:56. > :10:59.left or right. I think he went for left to work that.

:10:59. > :11:03.There is less current over there. That will be the best place to be.

:11:03. > :11:09.So the Americans going about their business as they have grown the lead

:11:09. > :11:15.to more than 274 metres, dropping just minutely just, as we go back to

:11:15. > :11:18.the Kiwis. They need one more victory and the America's Cup is

:11:18. > :11:23.theirs. They are not getting the pressure. They are not getting the

:11:23. > :11:29.speed we notice on the downward leg. This is nervous moments for all Kiwi

:11:29. > :11:33.fans, all the way around the world. This is clearly a nervous moment.

:11:33. > :11:37.Oracle sailing away here. It has been thought this medium breeze,

:11:37. > :11:41.this was a breeze that New Zealand possibly had an advantage in. It is

:11:41. > :11:46.not showing up right now on this leg. There is the situation right

:11:46. > :11:52.now - the Americans have a 300-metre lead. We look at Jimmy Spithill on

:11:52. > :11:59.the centre of the screen. He is the helmsman. You could see a full split

:11:59. > :12:03.at this mark. There are three ways, with the incoming tide it is

:12:03. > :12:08.sweeping along the bay of the shoreline. Team New Zealand could

:12:08. > :12:12.split all the way to the shoreline right away. We could see the biggest

:12:12. > :12:17.split we have seen in this entire event so far. At mark number two, it

:12:17. > :12:21.is Oracle, team USA, their lead 300 metres and they will make their way

:12:21. > :12:32.towards Alcatraz island. The Americans lead at gate number --

:12:32. > :12:36.their lead at gate number one was six seconds. It has more than

:12:36. > :12:39.doubled here on leg number two. I heard Ben Ainslie say, keep going

:12:39. > :12:43.straight all the way to the boundary. I guarantee you they had a

:12:43. > :12:49.play book committed before this race started F we are ahead, we're going

:12:49. > :12:54.for the cone. Their lead has been quadrupled from

:12:54. > :13:01.six to 24 seconds - the Kiwis will head towards the shore and the

:13:01. > :13:10.Americans will look for relief relief there behind Alcatraz Island.

:13:10. > :13:18.So the Americans on leg number three of five, nursing a 300-metre lead.

:13:18. > :13:24.How much relief will they see off the back of Alcatraz Island with the

:13:24. > :13:28.tide? A knot-and-a-half, Todd. They could get a current sweeping up

:13:28. > :13:32.towards the windward mark. That will help them gain a little more. New

:13:32. > :13:35.Zealand, on the other hand, has done the right move, heading for the same

:13:36. > :13:38.spot. I don't know if they will have the speed to catch up. That ebb

:13:38. > :13:41.spot. I don't know if they will have current - the current out of the

:13:41. > :13:45.bay, along the city front is not enough yet, so they decided to keep

:13:45. > :13:49.it close and they are playing the cone - that tidal relief behind

:13:49. > :13:55.Alcatraz, just like the Americans had. There is the scene on the San

:13:55. > :13:57.Francisco Bay. Alcatraz off to the right. The Americans 300 metre lead

:13:58. > :14:04.over the Kiwis. It is 270 metres for right. The Americans 300 metre lead

:14:04. > :14:09.team USA - the defenders of the Cup. The Kiwis trying to close in. There

:14:09. > :14:14.is Alcatraz Island T only thing I know about it is it is somewhere you

:14:14. > :14:19.don't want to go. For the sailors, this is where they are heading

:14:19. > :14:24.towards. We talked about the tidal relief under Alcatraz or the tidal

:14:24. > :14:26.relief of the shoreline. Both these boats determine it is not

:14:26. > :14:31.relief of the shoreline. Both these enough in the ebb or the change, so

:14:31. > :14:35.they both elected to go up behind Alcatraz Island and try and stay out

:14:35. > :14:39.of the current that way. For Americans now it is an easy choice -

:14:39. > :14:42.stick with your competitor and hopefully stay between them and the

:14:42. > :14:47.mark. Close to the boundary right there.

:14:47. > :14:51.That was almost like a boundary that snuck up on them and they did a

:14:51. > :14:57.crash tack there. That was not their best. Nonetheless, still a nice

:14:57. > :15:02.little lead. They have found a spot all along the water front here -

:15:02. > :15:07.people have made their way out to Alcatraz. Look at our good friends -

:15:07. > :15:11.that is some prime real estate with the tower behind them. They are

:15:11. > :15:14.watching on, as is the rest of the world. This is the 34th America's

:15:14. > :15:18.Cup. Well it is one thing to go out there

:15:18. > :15:23.in front of the media at the end of the day and say, we believe we can

:15:23. > :15:27.win, we think we are faster - it is another thing to do it. Jimmy

:15:27. > :15:30.Spithill, his crew have gone out and done it: They have backed up the

:15:30. > :15:34.words their leader said at the podium. Here they are leading on leg

:15:34. > :15:37.three of five, which would be a clincher for that man, Dean Barker

:15:37. > :15:39.and his crew. They cannot track down the Americans right now. It looks

:15:39. > :15:44.like this point we will see a second the Americans right now. It looks

:15:44. > :15:54.race of the day. I will not say who mentioned that but one Ken Reid

:15:54. > :15:59.guaranteed it. That is Ray Davies. How about this - it comes down to

:15:59. > :16:03.140 metres. Gary, why the big drop for the Americans? Well what, is

:16:03. > :16:07.happening here is that the wind is actually getting lighter at the top

:16:07. > :16:11.of the course, so they are going slower. More wind at the bottom,

:16:11. > :16:15.that is what New Zealand has. Boy, is that current ripping out here.

:16:15. > :16:20.That will be a big factor. Ripping, what I mean, flooding, coming into

:16:20. > :16:24.the bay. That was a big change there, wasn't it? I think it just

:16:24. > :16:29.got light for the guys ahead of that shore. And they really came back

:16:29. > :16:35.into it in a big way t Kiwis did. As I look up the course, on the left

:16:35. > :16:38.side of the screen there, right in under the city front, there is a

:16:38. > :16:42.little bit of a left shift, in other words the wind is better on the

:16:42. > :16:49.shore and the current is less. New Zealand could take advantage of it.

:16:49. > :16:57.A good move by Oracle to cover - the right thing to do. Still not a lot

:16:57. > :17:02.of panic in these guys, but the lead is shrinking here. A lot has to do

:17:02. > :17:05.with the boat ahead. They leave the cone behind Alcatraz and sail out on

:17:05. > :17:10.the convey ya belt. It is going the cone behind Alcatraz and sail out on

:17:10. > :17:12.wrong way. It leads a bit of a lead. This has got a lot tighter than the

:17:12. > :17:15.wrong way. It leads a bit of a lead. guys on Oracle ever thought it

:17:15. > :17:22.would. I can guarantee you that. This next cross is not very far.

:17:22. > :17:27.Wow! What a comeback - it is Team New Zealand. And here come the

:17:27. > :17:31.Kiwis, they were down by more than 300 metres. Here they are, right

:17:31. > :17:38.behind the Americans. Here we go again - hold on folks,

:17:38. > :17:43.welcome to the modern America's Cup. Now New Zealand is going oh the

:17:43. > :17:47.middle, where -- going out to the middle, now a chance for the

:17:47. > :17:53.Americans make up ground. They don't have starboard be advantage if they

:17:53. > :17:56.come close. If I am New Zealand I want to tack early and not wait a

:17:56. > :17:58.long tiesmt The reason they don't want to go out

:17:58. > :18:17.into the flood. There is a nice game back - you

:18:17. > :18:22.wonder if they will tack before this current. That would be two tacks in

:18:22. > :18:27.quick succession. Very tough to do that. They can lose more. Looking

:18:27. > :18:32.for Oracle to tack two to three boat lengths.

:18:32. > :18:36.The tide and wind pressure and right now, both boats are basically

:18:36. > :18:40.walking on the escalator the wrong way and they radio trying to get as

:18:40. > :18:44.much -- and they are trying to get as much pressure. It looks like the

:18:44. > :18:49.left side of the course has more favourable winds and so that is why

:18:49. > :18:54.both are hugging the shore front. Such a fine line with these boats.

:18:54. > :19:00.They do manoeuvre, even though we say how much better they have got at

:19:00. > :19:04.tacking - catamarans are bad tacking boats. You try and minimise as many

:19:04. > :19:10.as you can, while staying on the proper side of the conyeaor belt

:19:10. > :19:16.here. It is a high-aspect sail. Oracle has

:19:16. > :19:22.a low-aspect sail. I am wondering, as you are the sail-maker, having

:19:22. > :19:27.that gybe is helpful to the New Zealanders? It looks to be a bigger

:19:27. > :19:33.sail. A lot of times these sails, they help help the wind itself, just

:19:33. > :19:42.create flow over the wing itself. You wonder if it makes it is a

:19:42. > :19:47.smaller gybe in general. It seems like they are in a high slow mode to

:19:47. > :19:53.get up in front of New Zealand. I like the course that the USA sailing

:19:53. > :19:58.- high, slow, just close it up, takeaway any passing... Up ahead I

:19:58. > :20:00.see the wind turning to the right. That will help Oracle. They will

:20:00. > :20:16.tack with a favourable wind shift. That was the voice of Ray Davis. He

:20:16. > :20:21.is not laying left. An interesting call by these guys on Oracle. They

:20:21. > :20:26.will do two tacks into the gate and take the downwind mark that brings

:20:27. > :20:31.them offshore first. Team ne land will do one -- team New Zealand will

:20:31. > :20:46.likely do one tack here. Will the strategy pay off for Oracle

:20:46. > :20:50.Team USA? They throw in one extra tack. Now they are inside gate

:20:50. > :20:54.number three. Three more lengths to go and the Americans will have a

:20:54. > :21:00.victory, but the Kiwis are coming fast.

:21:00. > :21:08.Todd, I am nervous and I am not in a boat! For the Kiwis, the Kiwi

:21:08. > :21:15.mentality, they don't just ever quit. New ze land has chopped -- New

:21:15. > :21:20.Zealand has chopped nine seconds off - it stands at 15 seconds. Did they

:21:20. > :21:24.make the right call? Everyone hooer is watching -- - here is watching,

:21:24. > :21:28.cheering on the Kiwis and cheering on the Americans. So the lead is

:21:28. > :21:33.back up to 300 metres for the Americans. They rolled the dice and

:21:33. > :21:38.it came up - will it pay off with two more legs? San Francisco Bay is

:21:38. > :21:41.the setting for the 34th America's Cup.

:21:41. > :21:46.Oracle Team USA - the defenders - need to win out six more races and

:21:47. > :22:00.the cup will stay in the States. If they have one the cup will go to the

:22:00. > :22:05.Kiwis. Do they close right up to 100 metres again. A slow tack. Gary, it

:22:05. > :22:13.must be very puffy down on the water? Very puffy on the shoreline.

:22:13. > :22:15.I like what Oracle is doing. This is where New Zealand has to gybe now.

:22:15. > :22:20.They have to geft over there. That where New Zealand has to gybe now.

:22:20. > :22:24.is a lot of manoeuvring right now. They are struggling to get up on the

:22:24. > :22:30.foils. That is how light it is. They are right back next to them again. I

:22:30. > :22:35.am not so sure about that last manoeuvre by Oracle Team USA. They

:22:35. > :22:37.did it early. They did it four lengths and stayed between them in

:22:37. > :22:42.the mark, not straight ahead of them. Really light air out there

:22:42. > :22:48.right now. Just a matter of minutes, we were talking about 300 metres. It

:22:48. > :22:52.has dropped down to below 100. Again the Americans have found their pace.

:22:52. > :22:57.New Zealand is in very light wind now. They too have to manoeuvre and

:22:57. > :23:02.get back to the right. It is really puffy and it is who gets up on their

:23:02. > :23:03.foils right now. It is so light. I think if they were sailing normally

:23:03. > :23:08.foils right now. It is so light. I and they were set up for it they

:23:08. > :23:13.might have code zeros now, because they are struggling to get up on the

:23:13. > :23:17.foils. Whoever does makes huge gains into the other guy. This is leg four

:23:17. > :23:30.of five. This is race number 14 on day 12. The Kiwis looking for just

:23:30. > :23:37.one lone victory to take Cup. All of a sudden Oracle has gone.

:23:37. > :23:42.Team New Zealand - there is where the two gybes happened. New Zealand

:23:42. > :23:46.almost went backwards on the racecourse. They went dead across

:23:46. > :24:06.the racecourse, never got any wind, never got up on the foils.

:24:06. > :24:22.It is that crazy out there. Catamaran racing at its best.

:24:22. > :24:26.It seems like it is nol man's land. When you go over there, the wind

:24:26. > :24:32.seems to go away. The Americans are back into the course, nursing this

:24:32. > :24:41.260 metres lead over New Zealand. To see the boat up in on foils right

:24:41. > :24:46.there is a huge sense of relief. I don't think this race is ever over

:24:46. > :24:52.there. Here is New Zealand, only eight knots faster than Oracle right

:24:52. > :25:02.now. Big Gybe. Can they get it up and go around this marker?

:25:02. > :25:11.That is what Oracle does - up on the foils and now flying in excess of 34

:25:11. > :25:16.knots. Boy, this is unbelievably huge for Oracle. Fending that off,

:25:16. > :25:20.dealing the pressures - every moment of that race was a terrifying

:25:20. > :25:26.experience for Ben Ainslie - I can tell you that. It was six seconds at

:25:26. > :25:31.mark number one. Down to 15 seconds at mark number three. It looks like

:25:31. > :25:36.the Americans have done enough here on this fourth leg to put the Kiwis

:25:36. > :25:39.in a bad spot as their lead has now gone up over 20 seconds. 20 seconds

:25:40. > :25:53.even to be exact. Todd, that is why you have a

:25:53. > :25:57.four-time Olympic gold medallist as your tactician. Cool under pressure.

:25:57. > :26:02.It is terrifying being in those shoes at times when you see the

:26:02. > :26:06.other guy reeling you in, like Emirates New Zealand was during that

:26:06. > :26:11.race. 36-year-old Sir Ben Ainslie - a four time Olympic gold medallist,

:26:11. > :26:17.also has a silver in his collection. He was brought on board to make some

:26:17. > :26:23.changes and mix things up when Oracle Team USA was unable to get

:26:23. > :26:28.winds and it looked looic the Kiwis were going to get this thing. They

:26:28. > :26:34.started to plan their parade I is not the case. Race number 14 on day

:26:34. > :26:38.12 will go the way of the defenders Oracle, Team USA, lives to fight

:26:38. > :26:55.another race. Wow!

:26:55. > :27:01.No other word! Give these guys, give New Zealand a

:27:01. > :27:05.tonne of credit. They were behind at times - they did not quit. It shows

:27:05. > :27:12.you, stand by folks, we have another race to go here and there's nothing

:27:12. > :27:16.off limits at this stage. Because you are trying to sail as

:27:16. > :27:20.fast as you can but you know the wind is lighter at you get down the

:27:20. > :27:24.course. The guys did a good job sailing the boat, keeping it calm.

:27:24. > :27:29.You know, again working with Tom, did a great job. When the heat came

:27:29. > :27:35.on and they were on our hammer there, we managed to hold on and

:27:35. > :27:42.make the right decisions. But, yeah a few nervous moments that is for

:27:42. > :27:47.sure. USA fight off elimination once again. The Americans are in full

:27:47. > :27:53.flight with their scorching boat speed and Sir Ben's tackles. If they

:27:53. > :27:58.are to retain the Cup they need another straight five.

:27:58. > :28:04.A beautiful Sunday afternoon for the second race of the day and another

:28:04. > :28:09.opportunity for New Zealand to clinch that elusive win. Once again,

:28:09. > :28:14.the American Americans have the favoured port entry. Let's see what

:28:14. > :28:19.happens. So, at two minutes it is game on for race number 15. New

:28:19. > :28:24.Zealand looking for one victory to take the Cup and the Americans

:28:24. > :28:29.looking for one to extend it into next week. Jimmy Spithill talking

:28:29. > :28:34.about tack again. Different tactics than we have seen in the ebb tides.

:28:34. > :28:38.All of a sudden these guys are worried about getting too far

:28:38. > :28:42.downcurrent. So a quick little tack right in front of Emirates New

:28:42. > :28:46.Zealand right there. Very surprising.

:28:46. > :28:53.So the Americans have filed a protest.

:28:53. > :28:57.They have switched side - very interesting play by both of them.

:28:57. > :29:02.Oracle tacking in front. Switched back over again. Penalty is waved

:29:02. > :29:05.off. Both boats very close to the line

:29:05. > :29:09.here. They'll have to kill a lot of time.

:29:09. > :29:11.Emirates does not want to get overlapped here. They want to

:29:11. > :29:15.prevent from being overlapped. Can overlapped here. They want to

:29:15. > :29:20.they get up to weather? Is Jimmy Spithill too close to this layline?

:29:20. > :29:24.Keep gapping, if you are Team New Zealand at this stage. Try and keep

:29:24. > :29:28.distance between the two boats. And this looks very similar to what we

:29:28. > :29:31.saw in race number 14. Will the Americans try and push them high at

:29:31. > :29:35.the line? This is different though. This is way down by that yellow

:29:35. > :29:39.line. This is much further down the line. Emirates Team New Zealand

:29:39. > :29:55.could be in a better place to be a sling shot here in this start.

:29:56. > :30:02.We've got a clear race on race number 15. The Americans trying to

:30:02. > :30:07.stay alive. Here comes the Kiwi acceleration. The Kiwis did a little

:30:07. > :30:16.bit of a skid side ways. Is that enough to allow Oracle to stay out

:30:16. > :30:21.in front? I think it is going to be? New Zealand was too late, twol

:30:21. > :30:24.seconds late. -- two seconds late. At mark

:30:24. > :30:28.seconds late. one, it is the Americans who have

:30:28. > :30:34.the inside lane, but the lead is just a mere three seconds.

:30:34. > :30:41.Boy, this is just, this is a broken record here right now, but, tiny,

:30:41. > :30:46.tiny little mistake there, or bad luck, really did the Kiwis in. That

:30:46. > :30:50.is just a shame for those guys. Ray Davis is tired of this position, I

:30:50. > :30:55.tell you that. You cannot give up. You have to keep

:30:55. > :31:01.fighting. Eventually you'll find a way to go past. Is what New Zealand

:31:01. > :31:05.is hoping for. Four-and-a-half million people. It is Monday in New

:31:05. > :31:10.Zealand. The folks down there are saying, let's wrap this up so we can

:31:10. > :31:14.get back to some effective work. As the boats pass our position here, it

:31:14. > :31:21.looks like Oracle Team USA are sailing faster. So the I can r Kiwis

:31:21. > :31:25.first to -- so the Kiwis first to gybe. It is a matter of where you

:31:25. > :31:29.see the wind. If you are the boat ahead, remember, get a better chance

:31:29. > :31:34.of actually gybing when you want and in the breeze that you like. So, a

:31:34. > :31:40.lot of times we see the boat ahead extend because they are picking a

:31:40. > :31:44.more op tune time. Here we go, leg number two. The

:31:44. > :31:51.Americans with a sizable lead. They had the start they wanted. They led

:31:51. > :31:54.at mark number one. The question is, can Emirates New Zealand find the

:31:54. > :32:02.sweet spot on this course and reel them back in? A look at Glenn Ashby,

:32:02. > :32:07.they are looking for anything right now. They are looking for a miracle,

:32:07. > :32:11.they are looking for the fans to wave the Kiwi flags, to give them

:32:11. > :32:24.some sort of breeze that they can work with. Full credit to sling

:32:24. > :32:28.sling and Ainslie in the back of -- Slingsby and Ainslie in the back of

:32:28. > :32:32.this boat. They make their way to the gate.

:32:32. > :32:35.They have all the time in the world to make this decision. Jimmy

:32:35. > :32:41.Spithill will make it clean and they will head towards Alcatraz yet

:32:41. > :32:46.again. This will be an absolutely enormous number on the clock by the

:32:46. > :32:52.time the I can wis get to gate -- by the time the Kiwis get to gate two.

:32:52. > :32:56.It is paying off - you would think they would be terrified. I mean,

:32:56. > :33:00.they are one race away from losing the America's Cup and not a single

:33:00. > :33:05.bit of tension on board the boat. Very impressive!

:33:05. > :33:08.Just sort of the laylines t Kiwis make this gybe. They still have

:33:08. > :33:14.about 100 metres before they get to the gate. And the clock keeps

:33:14. > :33:16.running. I like the fact not one member of Oracle looked at the other

:33:16. > :33:27.boat as it passed. And it will be one minute even. The

:33:28. > :33:34.advantage for the Americans, as the Kiwis now head upwind, looking for

:33:34. > :33:43.Mother Nature to give them a hand. So, just like in race number 14, the

:33:43. > :33:47.Kiwis not giving up. 250 metres. Just shifting into that ebb current

:33:47. > :33:51.- that outgoing current along the city front before Oracle does right

:33:51. > :33:56.now. They will have an advantage until Oracle get across that tide

:33:56. > :34:05.mark. Initially when they made the change on Oracle U ssmt SA replacing

:34:05. > :34:11.with Ben Ainslie, who is normally a helmsman and you #45d Tom Slingsby,

:34:11. > :34:16.I thought it would not work out. I thought it would be like having

:34:16. > :34:20.three quarterbacks, but they have all found their spot. Kostecki is a

:34:20. > :34:25.great at the tigs. He was trying to all found their spot. Kostecki is a

:34:25. > :34:27.-- a great at the tigs. He was trying to work with a boat that was

:34:27. > :34:32.-- a great at the tigs. He was not up to speed in the first couple

:34:32. > :34:41.of races. These guys are doing a great job. It They did make several

:34:41. > :34:46.changes. Several changes to the boat. So it was not just the

:34:46. > :34:54.replacement of John Kostecki that has turned this around. Absolutely

:34:54. > :34:59.not. You can make the case, it is not that at all.

:34:59. > :35:04.This beginning part of this leg is where they make some good inroads

:35:04. > :35:09.every single time they are behind. Don't count them by any means. You

:35:09. > :35:13.think that is a long distance. These boats make up such distance in such

:35:13. > :35:17.a short period of time with one gust of wind, they go two or three times

:35:17. > :35:25.the speed of the wind. You can close it up easily.

:35:25. > :35:38.So the Kiwis make the tack and they trail the Americans and the lead is

:35:38. > :35:42.coming down now about 250 metres. Really, there is hardly any tide on

:35:42. > :35:47.the right-hand side of the korss. You see the -- Of the course. You

:35:47. > :35:51.see the tide line. The blue arrows are these tide models. To the right

:35:51. > :35:55.of Oracle there, this there is a big current line on the water. They are

:35:56. > :36:00.both probably in similar tide at this stage. Maybe a little advantage

:36:00. > :36:03.to New Zealand. It is probably not as dramatic as those blue arrows

:36:03. > :36:15.were showing us. This is leg three of five. The

:36:15. > :36:20.second race of the day. The Americans won the first race, which

:36:20. > :36:25.was race 14. And every race they win, it forces another one because

:36:25. > :36:28.the Kiwis are on match point. One more victory to New Zealand and the

:36:28. > :36:32.the Kiwis are on match point. One race is theirs. A breeze increase as

:36:32. > :36:36.they get up here. That is a nice advantage for the boat ahead. When

:36:36. > :36:42.you sail into more wind, you tend to extend. Look at the difference in

:36:42. > :36:48.speed. 31 knots for the US boat. Only 23 for Emirates Team New

:36:48. > :36:55.Zealand. That is a tremendous difference.

:36:55. > :37:01.Oracle setting up to take the left gate going down wind. That has not

:37:02. > :37:06.worked. See if they do that left gate this time.

:37:06. > :37:12.You are hearing the voice of Ben Ainslie. The far right of your

:37:12. > :37:16.screen. We will see an early gybe out of

:37:16. > :37:20.Oracle here just to stay with the other boat. At gate number three,

:37:20. > :37:24.the Americans maintain a lead. At gate number two, it was one minute.

:37:24. > :37:27.The clock begins. How much will be their lead as they head to the

:37:27. > :37:36.finish line? So the Americans around gate three,

:37:36. > :37:41.happy with the pressure they are feeling on the right-hand side of

:37:41. > :37:43.the course as they head downwind. Emirates make the turn. The good

:37:43. > :37:50.news for the Kiwis is they have cut Emirates make the turn. The good

:37:50. > :37:55.the lead almost in half. What do the Americans need to do to

:37:55. > :37:59.maintain this lead? Very simple - stay between the New Zealanders and

:37:59. > :38:01.the mark. They are looking really good. Tomorrow will be another day

:38:01. > :38:19.if they are able to hold on. Well, is the lead insurmountable? It

:38:19. > :38:25.may be as Team New Zealand is running out of tack. Dean Barker

:38:25. > :38:30.trying to find some magic mo Jo trying to get his -- mojo trying to

:38:30. > :38:35.get his boat up to where the Americans are.

:38:35. > :38:39.Any idea what the weather conditions look like for tomorrow? I had a talk

:38:39. > :38:44.with the principal race officer. He says the wind tomorrow will be a

:38:44. > :38:48.little lighter, about the same direction. If we go on to Tuesday -

:38:48. > :38:53.that is a big if, if we do, the winds will be stronger. The

:38:53. > :38:57.prospects of two races over two days are very encouraging. Expect the

:38:57. > :39:03.unexpected here in San Francisco when it comes to the weather. We

:39:03. > :39:08.have seen high winds, low winds, fog, even spotted some whales on the

:39:08. > :39:16.course yesterday. All of a sudden Oracle has a slow gybe rate there. A

:39:16. > :39:21.500-metre lead is down to almost nothing. Very light at this end of

:39:21. > :39:29.the racecourse. Here we go, under 150 metres and here come the Kiwis.

:39:29. > :39:32.Just very late wind under Alcatraz. Oracle fell into a wind shadow -

:39:32. > :39:37.that was the difference. They gybe away, Gary. This is a big call right

:39:37. > :39:42.now. I guess they feel like they have to do something. Very hard to

:39:42. > :39:46.pass. They are behind - give it a try.

:39:46. > :39:52.The problem for New Zealand is they are gybing right into where Oracle

:39:53. > :39:57.found the right wind. And look at the speeds - the

:39:57. > :40:02.Americans approaching 29 knots, the Kiwis drop down to 11. Oracle will

:40:02. > :40:07.go right down, I believe lay this mark from where they were. Look at

:40:07. > :40:13.the zigzags up in the middle of the course.

:40:13. > :40:20.After a close call in the middle of leg number four, the Americans make

:40:20. > :40:24.the right call. Now it is the charge for home for Oracle Team USA,

:40:24. > :40:29.looking to keep this regatta going through the weekend and into

:40:29. > :40:34.tomorrow. That is unbelievable! We were down

:40:34. > :40:39.to 110 metres and the Kiwis looked to be coming fast. And then, just

:40:39. > :40:44.like that, it is back up to 400 metres and the clock running over 30

:40:44. > :40:49.seconds. Astonishing really, how quickly we have seen these collapse

:40:49. > :40:56.and then get put back on together. It is just a stunning racecourse out

:40:56. > :41:01.here. What is supposed to be a very predictable place - San Francisco

:41:01. > :41:07.Bay. If you are a fan of Oracle Team USA - that is a beautiful sight. Up

:41:07. > :41:11.on the foils, with a lead on top of Emirates New Zealand. So, two races

:41:11. > :41:21.today go the way of the defenders of the America's Cup - Oracle Team USA

:41:21. > :41:27.will pick up point number five. It will now be with the Kiwis needs

:41:27. > :41:33.just one. The Sunday showdown belongs to Oracle. There is belief

:41:33. > :41:34.in the crew as they cut into the Kiwi's lead.

:41:34. > :41:38.37 seconds in front. Kiwi's lead.

:41:38. > :41:42.something to cheer about for the home crowd and a return for the man

:41:42. > :41:49.who has put in hundreds of millions of dollars - the billionaire Larry

:41:49. > :41:53.Ellison. So a fourth straight win means the Americans only need four

:41:53. > :41:59.more to win. New Zealand still searching for that one race win.

:41:59. > :42:03.It was always going to be a battle. We knew that. And you know, without

:42:03. > :42:09.question, they have improved since the first week.

:42:09. > :42:13.We feel like we have improved also. The game is very, very close. It is

:42:13. > :42:18.going to be a case of having to battle for every point. I said that

:42:18. > :42:22.we had one hell of a challenge on our hands. I said that stranger

:42:22. > :42:26.things had happened in sport. I thought we had the boat and team to

:42:26. > :42:31.make a comeback. And that was something I wanted to be a part of.

:42:31. > :42:33.I am not the only one. I mean, everyone on the boat wants to be a

:42:33. > :42:37.part of it. The entire team around everyone on the boat wants to be a

:42:37. > :42:44.us wants to be a part of it. Now we've got the city and really the

:42:44. > :42:48.nation behind us. I have got a huge belief in our team and the guys. I

:42:48. > :42:54.know that we have definitely got enough to go out there and win this

:42:54. > :42:58.thing. We have obviously had a tough few days. Some ups and downs. Things

:42:58. > :43:03.which have gone against us. It is sport and we know we can bounce

:43:03. > :43:06.back. So we are very ex-sited about getting out there -- excited about

:43:06. > :43:10.getting out there tomorrow and doing what we do well. When they do return

:43:10. > :43:13.to the water, this will be the longest America's Cup match on

:43:13. > :43:18.record. The forecast is for lighter conditions. Everything is balanced

:43:18. > :43:22.on a knife edge. The Kiwi's campaign seems to have ground to a halt. The

:43:22. > :43:24.Americans have a wave of momentum that seems to be increasing every

:43:24. > :43:29.day. We are back on Tuesday, at 11. 50pm

:43:29. > :43:36.day. on BBC Two, with the climax of this

:43:36. > :43:40.34th America's Cup. Will it stay in American hands or will New Zealand

:43:40. > :43:47.finally win their match-point?
