:00:31. > :00:39.It's beautiful, isn't it? That is the oldest trophy in world sport,
:00:40. > :00:42.the America's Cup. 165 years ago it was won for the first time by an
:00:43. > :00:47.American boat in a race around the Isle of Wight. This trophy has never
:00:48. > :00:51.been won by a British team but this time around we are back in the game.
:00:52. > :01:04.After over a century and a half that game looks very, very different. Oh,
:01:05. > :01:13.wow! Oh buoy! Steaming along. Fantastic racing. Just lost control
:01:14. > :01:17.of the boat. Oracle Team USA! The America's Cup World Series this week
:01:18. > :01:20.lands in Portsmouth. Six teams made up of the very best sailors on the
:01:21. > :01:25.planet racing the fastest race boat ever built. It's quite a spectacle,
:01:26. > :01:31.its high-speed adrenaline fuelled sailboat racing. But it's not the
:01:32. > :01:37.first time it's come to the UK. Last year here in Portsmouth thousands
:01:38. > :01:42.flocked for the first round ever of the 35th America's Cup World Series.
:01:43. > :01:45.It was the first time the six teams went head-to-head. Sailing fans had
:01:46. > :01:49.never seen anything like it. The event was a resounding success. Not
:01:50. > :01:57.least because the man they all came to cheer topped the podium. British
:01:58. > :02:00.team Land Rover BAR took a spectacular win here in Portsmouth
:02:01. > :02:06.last year to the delight of the very partisan home crowd. All here to
:02:07. > :02:14.cheer on their sailing hero, Sir Ben Ainslie. Ben Ainslie and crew, their
:02:15. > :02:17.first debut, and they have done it. Before we find out just how the rest
:02:18. > :02:21.of the World Series has been going for Ainslie since his win here last
:02:22. > :02:25.year we will take a quick time-out for a quick history lesson. As we
:02:26. > :02:28.have already seen the first ever race for the America's Cup was
:02:29. > :02:34.sailed around the Isle of Wight Way back in 1851. At the time it was for
:02:35. > :02:37.a new trophy then called the Hundred Guinea cup, awarded to the first
:02:38. > :02:44.yacht across the line in a race around the Ireland. That yacht was
:02:45. > :02:47.called America. And in winning the trophy her owners decided it was
:02:48. > :02:51.appropriate to rename it the America's Cup. They took the
:02:52. > :02:58.silverware back to New York and in doing so they started the longest
:02:59. > :03:04.ever winning streak in world sport. For an astounding 132 years the
:03:05. > :03:09.trophy stayed with the New York yacht club until, in 1983, Australia
:03:10. > :03:14.two wrestled the trophy from the American sliced like grip. They took
:03:15. > :03:19.the cup on US soil for the first time since that race back in 1851.
:03:20. > :03:25.Since then the cup has been contested a further nine times. It's
:03:26. > :03:30.only seen three different winners. But it's the most recent cup, held
:03:31. > :03:35.back in 2013, that really caught the attention of the sporting public.
:03:36. > :03:40.And that is where our man Ben Ainslie enters the fray. Held out in
:03:41. > :03:45.the waters of San Francisco Bay, the last cup was raced on the most
:03:46. > :03:50.advanced, most expensive, fastest sailing machines ever built. The
:03:51. > :03:53.previous winners, Oracle Team USA, were defending the cup against the
:03:54. > :04:03.challenging team, Emirates Team New Zealand. 8-1 down in a first to nine
:04:04. > :04:08.contest it was all over for the Americans, the cup was on the way to
:04:09. > :04:15.New Zealand. In a last throw of the dice they changed tactician and up
:04:16. > :04:17.stepped Ben Ainslie. Fresh from London 2012 Olympic success, Ainslie
:04:18. > :04:22.helped mastermind the greatest ever comeback in sporting history. As the
:04:23. > :04:27.USA sailed to an incredible eight straight wins and thus keeping their
:04:28. > :04:37.hands on the oldest Choate fee in world sport. And still the defender
:04:38. > :04:43.of the America's Cup, Oracle Team USA -- the oldest trophy in world
:04:44. > :04:48.sport. For Ben Ainslie, that win was a career defining moment. He would
:04:49. > :04:54.return home cup winner. But the cup would remain in the USA. The next
:04:55. > :05:00.big challenge was to set about winning it again. But this time as a
:05:01. > :05:04.British team with British backers. A team that could win the America's
:05:05. > :05:11.Cup and bring the oldest trophy in world sport back to where it all
:05:12. > :05:16.began. You know what it is like, the final build-up, you are a cup winner
:05:17. > :05:21.already. How different is it now you are in charge of the whole thing?
:05:22. > :05:25.Well, I think having founded the team, and sort of being involved in
:05:26. > :05:30.every area, you realise just how much more is going on other than
:05:31. > :05:34.just the sailing or the design. Whether that be commercial or
:05:35. > :05:41.illegal, or, you know, we have a lot of investors heavily involved with
:05:42. > :05:45.the team as well. -- legal. So yeah, there's a lot to occupy the mind, a
:05:46. > :05:49.lot to think about. There are so many things going on with the team
:05:50. > :05:53.on a day-to-day basis that you have to learn to take it all in, cycle it
:05:54. > :05:57.through and try to make the right decisions and then move forward and
:05:58. > :06:02.keep, ultimately keep the team going and pushing to get the desired
:06:03. > :06:05.results. I was going to ask you about your relationship with your
:06:06. > :06:11.competitors, particularly Jimmy Spithill. Team members three years
:06:12. > :06:17.ago, batting for the same side. How has that changed as you become more
:06:18. > :06:22.competitive? We have always had a great relationship, Jimmy and I. We
:06:23. > :06:25.first met back in 2001 or something like that. We came back together
:06:26. > :06:30.many years later for the Oracle Team USA. I think there is our healthy
:06:31. > :06:35.respect. We are very different people, but opposites attract to a
:06:36. > :06:39.certain extent. One thing is for sure, when we are both out on the
:06:40. > :06:44.water, we want to win and we want to beat each other. That's great,
:06:45. > :06:47.that's what you want can sport, you want those rivalries. Certainly from
:06:48. > :06:51.my point of view I love knowing that I'm going out against the best guys,
:06:52. > :06:56.and if you can actually beat them you know you've achieved something
:06:57. > :06:59.special. I wonder if you take a moment of thought when you go into
:07:00. > :07:05.work in the morning and there are over 100 people working towards this
:07:06. > :07:08.common goal, do you take a moment to think you can't believe what's
:07:09. > :07:12.happening and what is going on? Sometimes we definitely have to
:07:13. > :07:16.pinch ourselves, because it is really amazing, building the base in
:07:17. > :07:20.Portsmouth, getting it to where we are now, performing well on the
:07:21. > :07:24.World Series. We are and we should be very proud of what we have
:07:25. > :07:30.achieved as a team but we are also hugely competitive. We want that
:07:31. > :07:34.America's Cup back home. Until ultimately we win it, you can't
:07:35. > :07:38.relax, you've just got to keep pushing, keep trying to improve, and
:07:39. > :07:45.work out things to be better and smarter. That team is all working
:07:46. > :07:51.towards that goal, and they are pretty focused on it. Having raced
:07:52. > :07:56.the required funding, Ainsley's team set up base in the city of
:07:57. > :08:00.Portsmouth, the home of the British Navy, a city steeped in British
:08:01. > :08:05.maritime history, the perfect environment to mastermind the return
:08:06. > :08:09.of that elusive silverware. Ainsley's team set up here, built an
:08:10. > :08:13.impressive base and are well into a cup campaign. We are about to head
:08:14. > :08:16.out onto the water but before we do and going to take a minute to
:08:17. > :08:23.explain how this America's Cup business works. The teams are all
:08:24. > :08:26.currently racing on the America's Cup World Series. It's a preliminary
:08:27. > :08:31.series of nine rounds that being raced in the build-up to the
:08:32. > :08:37.America's Cup 2017. This will take place in June in Bermuda a year from
:08:38. > :08:40.now. When the World Series finishes the six teams will then gather in
:08:41. > :08:45.Bermuda for the cup qualifiers. First and second in the World Series
:08:46. > :08:49.will take points into these races. Once completed, the top four will go
:08:50. > :08:52.into a final Challenger series play-off. As we've ready seen
:08:53. > :08:58.Ainslie himself helped the Americans win the cup in 2013. That means that
:08:59. > :09:02.Oracle Team USA are the defenders and they will race in the America's
:09:03. > :09:06.Cup against the winner of the Challenger series play-offs. Put
:09:07. > :09:10.simply that is how this edition of the cup is going to run. In June of
:09:11. > :09:14.next year over in Bermuda Oracle Team USA will go head-to-head
:09:15. > :09:19.against the successful challenger in a battle to win the oldest trophy in
:09:20. > :09:23.world sport. So that's how this all works. Finish in the top two in the
:09:24. > :09:29.World Series and you carry points forward to the next H and so
:09:30. > :09:32.performing well is vital. It's round seven here in Portsmouth and to date
:09:33. > :09:39.competition between the teams has been nothing but fierce. Lying sixth
:09:40. > :09:45.in the table at the moment, French team Groupama, late to the America's
:09:46. > :09:48.Cup party as the last team to confirm entry but on the racetrack
:09:49. > :09:53.they are a force to be reckoned with. Helmed by a French sailing
:09:54. > :09:57.legend Franck Cammas, he knows a thing or two about competition. He
:09:58. > :10:01.won the gruelling Volvo Ocean race at first attempt and is desperate to
:10:02. > :10:08.take the trophy back to France for the first time ever. SoftBank Team
:10:09. > :10:13.Japan lie in fifth place. Run by Kiwi Dean Barker, at the helm of the
:10:14. > :10:20.losing entry last time out. Chris Draper is on the boat, Barker's
:10:21. > :10:26.right-hand romance. Great to see you in Portsmouth, is it nice to be
:10:27. > :10:29.home? It is, and England has been turning on the weather. Nice to see
:10:30. > :10:33.friends I have not seen for a long time and really enjoying being back
:10:34. > :10:35.here. It certainly feels that SoftBank Team Japan have been
:10:36. > :10:42.getting better and better. What can you expect to do here? I think we
:10:43. > :10:45.really don't have any expectations. We've been working really hard in
:10:46. > :10:49.Bermuda on our testing boat and that's been the priority. We are
:10:50. > :10:53.trying to focus on improving in this when we get the opportunities at the
:10:54. > :10:57.offence. At the same time because we are a small team we only start
:10:58. > :11:01.focusing on these events when we arrive at them which makes it tricky
:11:02. > :11:04.to improve. But we have been thinking about strategy and the way
:11:05. > :11:08.we position people in the boat and trying to make the most of
:11:09. > :11:12.opportunities and I think that can improve our performances. I think
:11:13. > :11:15.with any sailboat racing you learn a lot, it's about ticking the boxes
:11:16. > :11:20.and making sure you execute everything well. Making sure there's
:11:21. > :11:25.none of processes missed an if we do that we will get good results.
:11:26. > :11:30.Fourth place in the rankings sits one of the powerhouses of the
:11:31. > :11:32.America's Cup. Privately funded campaign, Artemis Racing from Sweden
:11:33. > :11:40.come support Smith without their usual Olympic gold medallist who is
:11:41. > :11:44.in Rio preparing for the games. They are one of only three teams to have
:11:45. > :11:49.won a World Series event. In fact they've won twice. Run by British
:11:50. > :11:57.double Olympic gold medallist Percy Dunne Iain Percy. You are fourth in
:11:58. > :12:01.the table, two of them wins, how happy are you? We've won a third of
:12:02. > :12:05.the events but lying in fourth sums up our series so far, really. Had
:12:06. > :12:09.some moments of great sailing but also some stuff we really should
:12:10. > :12:14.have done better. So overall I'm not happy about being fourth, not happy
:12:15. > :12:17.about those bad results. What it probably fit in more with our
:12:18. > :12:22.programme where we are concentrating on the events in 17. You've been in
:12:23. > :12:26.the Olympic team with Ben Ainslie for absolutely decade and you are
:12:27. > :12:31.great friends. As rivals, both running and America's Cup team, how
:12:32. > :12:34.has that relationship changed? In friendship turns our relationship is
:12:35. > :12:40.as good as ever. The important stuff in life we can chat about as old
:12:41. > :12:43.mates. Maybe in a lot of ways it is enhanced because we are both in the
:12:44. > :12:47.same role now, running and America's Cup team comes with a lot of
:12:48. > :12:51.pressures. In some ways it is quite a lonely position. Having an old
:12:52. > :12:54.mate going through the same things, there's often a time we will grab a
:12:55. > :12:59.beer and just wine without giving much away about our respective
:13:00. > :13:04.pressures. But here we are getting on really well. This weekend weather
:13:05. > :13:08.looks promising, of excitement building, what can we expect? I
:13:09. > :13:12.think it's going to be fantastic racing. These boats, for those who
:13:13. > :13:16.have not seen them, are incredibly fast and spectacular. Faster than
:13:17. > :13:22.most cars go on the road flying above the water. At the same time
:13:23. > :13:24.very tight, close racing. I think what people will realise is that
:13:25. > :13:28.they can understand sailing in a way they never have before with TV
:13:29. > :13:33.graphics. Those on the sure we'll have a great show. I think any team
:13:34. > :13:37.can win which is where we sit with these boats now which adds another
:13:38. > :13:41.element to it as well. We've already established who the defenders of the
:13:42. > :13:45.cup are this time around. Team Oracle USA are currently third in
:13:46. > :13:50.the rankings but unbelievably hard yet to win a World Series event.
:13:51. > :13:55.Helmed by the tenacious Aussie Jimmy Spithill, they are desperate for
:13:56. > :14:00.their first series win. Every single team that goes to a World Series,
:14:01. > :14:04.their goal is to win. And that's exactly our goal, to come here and
:14:05. > :14:09.win, especially this one in front of Ben's home crowd. How much would
:14:10. > :14:13.that mean to you to beat Ben Ainslie's team here? Oh, it would be
:14:14. > :14:19.great. Not just Ben, it's really all of them. They all are so tough now.
:14:20. > :14:25.There's no weak links in the fleet. And for sure, I think this event
:14:26. > :14:29.will be even bigger than a year ago, just given what's happened, his team
:14:30. > :14:33.has been set up. It will be awesome. But also we are under no false
:14:34. > :14:38.illusions, it will be very tough, very competitive, and saving these
:14:39. > :14:40.boats, man, you can't be perfect. It really is the team that can make
:14:41. > :15:01.fewer mistakes. are, the team based here in
:15:02. > :15:04.Portsmouth. They kicked up with that victory here and the whole team are
:15:05. > :15:07.keen to repeat in front of thousands of fans. Plenty of expectation to
:15:08. > :15:10.put that cherry on the cake and get the second win here. We want to go
:15:11. > :15:14.out, we are desperate to get another victory here. It will be really
:15:15. > :15:20.tough. The competition is getting higher and higher. If this sea
:15:21. > :15:24.breeze kicks in, it will be amazing, incredibly tight racing. Great for
:15:25. > :15:30.people to watch on TV and on the shore and on the water. Leading the
:15:31. > :15:34.rankings at this stage of the cup, Emirates Team New Zealand have
:15:35. > :15:37.sailed a consistent series. Two event wins and helmed by an
:15:38. > :15:45.up-and-coming star of the America's Cup. He will also be looking for
:15:46. > :15:50.gold in Rio, the responsibility in Portsmouth relies on Ashford. You
:15:51. > :15:56.are top of the leaderboard for ages, can you hold that position? We will
:15:57. > :16:01.see how we go this weekend. The racing will be fierce whether it be
:16:02. > :16:05.windy or light. It is a fairly new crew sailing here this weekend and
:16:06. > :16:11.for me in particular, steering. I haven't done so for more than about
:16:12. > :16:15.15 minutes on an A/C 45. The guys had better give us some room on the
:16:16. > :16:20.start line because anything could happen. That is the form guide
:16:21. > :16:24.coming into this event, what a day we are going to have. The wind is
:16:25. > :16:29.building and thousands of people are lining the shore and race one is
:16:30. > :16:34.about to kick off. COMMENTATOR: All set to go, race one on the America's
:16:35. > :16:39.Cup World Series here in Portsmouth on the historic waters where it all
:16:40. > :16:51.began way back in 1851. They are away. Three other books -- three of
:16:52. > :16:54.the boats are a way early. The two rookie helmsman, Francesco Bruni on
:16:55. > :17:00.Artemis and Glenn Ashby on Emirates Team New Zealand. You can see two or
:17:01. > :17:06.three feet can make all the difference in the world to being a
:17:07. > :17:11.hero or zero off the start line. Just as we saw yesterday, the French
:17:12. > :17:17.off to a flyer. The practice races yesterday, that was a mark of the
:17:18. > :17:26.French team. Franco mass leading them towards that first mark. A
:17:27. > :17:32.relatively tight manoeuvre. Not a huge amount of margin for error. He
:17:33. > :17:37.flew the hull up and over the back of Oracle there, that is confidence
:17:38. > :17:44.in your ability, I tell you that. We also see group, team France in
:17:45. > :17:49.front. Then a easy going 12 or 13 knots, the other guys going 11. He
:17:50. > :17:58.did a nice job clearing the pack and sailing his own boat in his own
:17:59. > :18:06.breeze. The French have taken off on this leg, they are in their own race
:18:07. > :18:11.and gone, literally. This would be only the third race the French have
:18:12. > :18:20.one in the entire America's Cup World Series. A massive boost for
:18:21. > :18:26.this team and their supporters. They have struggled as a whole but they
:18:27. > :18:28.take victory in race number one. They may have to wait for British
:18:29. > :18:34.victory, the French have taken control. STUDIO: Not the hope the
:18:35. > :18:37.British team would have hoped for, a fifth-place finish but a quick
:18:38. > :18:42.turnaround for the next race, there was no time to dwell on the
:18:43. > :18:47.disappointment. The team had to refocus and refocus quickly before
:18:48. > :18:52.race two. COMMENTATOR: About to get underway in the Solent in front of a
:18:53. > :19:00.big crowd. The jostling for position as intense as ever. There will be a
:19:01. > :19:05.lot of the boats going over early, five of the six boats are over early
:19:06. > :19:12.team France is the only one not over the starting line early. The current
:19:13. > :19:20.did not hold them back quite as much as they wanted. Groupama will have
:19:21. > :19:28.to let them through. Around the first mark, Land Rover BAR in first
:19:29. > :19:31.place. Emirates Team New Zealand behind Artemis racing and not
:19:32. > :19:38.enjoying themselves so far this afternoon. Land Rover BAR certainly
:19:39. > :19:42.caught a break. They are over early with the rest of the pack but did a
:19:43. > :19:46.better job burning off their penalty than anyone else and came at in
:19:47. > :19:49.second place after a penalty. I guarantee you Ben Ainslie has never
:19:50. > :19:54.had a penalty before and still come out in second place. Emirates Team
:19:55. > :20:00.New Zealand trying to gybe in front of the group. Ben Ainslie going
:20:01. > :20:04.several knots faster. Emirates Team New Zealand trying to get across.
:20:05. > :20:08.They were the burden boat, the give way boat. They had to stay clear of
:20:09. > :20:13.the starboard tack is, they could not get across and this will be
:20:14. > :20:19.really costly as all six boats pile into the first gate with Ben Ainslie
:20:20. > :20:26.poking through. Artemis racing seemed to be picking up speed at the
:20:27. > :20:32.bottom of your picture right now. But still in front by a religion of
:20:33. > :20:38.Lee small margin, Land Rover BAR who have taken a very different path.
:20:39. > :20:42.Again they have done a nice job of splitting. It is part of their
:20:43. > :20:47.strategy, Land Rover BAR to try and stay away from the group. Artemis
:20:48. > :20:52.coming across right now, they are on port tack, the give way boat, they
:20:53. > :21:03.have to get out of the way of Groupama team France, which they do
:21:04. > :21:06.successfully. Single-minded sailing from Sir Ben Ainslie and company as
:21:07. > :21:17.they head to date three clear of the rest. Something for the home crowd
:21:18. > :21:22.to cheer. Oracle Team USA led by Jimmy Spithill, the man to the right
:21:23. > :21:24.of the picture. Still around 200 metres off the pace of Land Rover
:21:25. > :21:40.BAR. This is business, it is all about
:21:41. > :21:44.winning an home waters in front of the home crowd, giving them
:21:45. > :21:49.something to celebrate as they head into gate four and contemplate the
:21:50. > :22:01.finish. Land Rover BAR well in front of the rest. Picking up some speed
:22:02. > :22:05.as well now. On this final flourish for Land Rover BAR, there will be no
:22:06. > :22:10.catching them now. Look at the crowd, do you think there will be
:22:11. > :22:14.much of a raw? This is real stadium sound. Time to celebrate in the
:22:15. > :22:20.sunshine for the British sailing fancier. Sir Ben Ainslie, owner of
:22:21. > :22:25.four gold medals as done it again on home waters. Leading them in. It has
:22:26. > :22:32.been a commanding performance in race two from the British boat, much
:22:33. > :22:36.to celebrate. A win for the home team in race two, a great comeback
:22:37. > :22:42.from Land Rover BAR, can they take that winning streak into race three?
:22:43. > :22:46.The last race of the day, the world's best going head to head in
:22:47. > :22:49.the scramble for points in the Portsmouth sunshine. They will be
:22:50. > :22:58.getting away to a flyer this time around? Penalty on Oracle Team USA
:22:59. > :23:02.and Softbank team Japan, what will stick at to any sailor at home is
:23:03. > :23:07.how good these guys are at getting close to the starting line.
:23:08. > :23:11.Literally a foot is deciding if you are a hero or zero coming off the
:23:12. > :23:16.starting line. Ben Ainslie again shooting that the top-of-the-line to
:23:17. > :23:19.stay clear of everyone else. He may not be the favourite but getting
:23:20. > :23:24.himself clear. It looks like he might get off into second place. And
:23:25. > :23:28.there is the French boat again, starting much better. Didn't pull
:23:29. > :23:34.off the slingshot but he was helped out by the two boats were over early
:23:35. > :23:38.and he might be leading coming to the mark. Heading into gate two with
:23:39. > :23:45.Groupama team France leading the pack against -- ahead of Softbank
:23:46. > :23:52.team Japan. As they look to head closer to shore and those
:23:53. > :23:56.spectators. The French skipper asking which mark, at the top of the
:23:57. > :24:01.screen, it looks like very glassy water. And the better pressure where
:24:02. > :24:05.they make games is offshore a tactician is called for make the
:24:06. > :24:11.manoeuvre and go back offshore again, it looks to be better
:24:12. > :24:17.pressure out there. A breakaway of three, the French, Japanese and
:24:18. > :24:23.British. Oracle Team USA in very light air trying to get around the
:24:24. > :24:30.other bluey, do they have to give ground to Artemis racing. The moment
:24:31. > :24:34.of truth in this race right now whether they can cross or not. It
:24:35. > :24:39.looks like they will cross Softbank team Japan who are dipping in behind
:24:40. > :24:47.them. Let us see what happens with our friends at Groupama. Nothing
:24:48. > :24:51.between the two. Ben Ainslie said to focus on the handling, he has got it
:24:52. > :24:57.so it may not have gone as smoothly as he would have liked. Will
:24:58. > :25:03.Groupama have enough speed and not let Ben Ainslie roll over the top?
:25:04. > :25:05.The instructions clearly working because Land Rover BAR have moved
:25:06. > :25:18.ahead of Softbank team Japan and the French, hitting the front. As they
:25:19. > :25:27.head into gate three. Wonderful third to first move in this last
:25:28. > :25:32.leg. Ben Ainslie on Land Rover BAR saying they are in a match. That if
:25:33. > :25:39.Ron start to gybe, Land Rover to one macro will start to gybe. The
:25:40. > :25:48.decision taken in a flurry of activity. Working so hard to
:25:49. > :25:52.minimise the time lost. The French have simply sailed better so far in
:25:53. > :25:59.this event. They are really in the hunt, they are sailing and more
:26:00. > :26:03.aware and confident with each other. But did they just put themselves in
:26:04. > :26:13.a tough spot? Gybing right into bad air behind Ben Ainslie. It has
:26:14. > :26:20.allowed Land Rover BAR to take the lead that they are building towards
:26:21. > :26:24.as they round gate four. They are ahead of the French by a small
:26:25. > :26:29.margin. Emirates Team New Zealand suddenly back in the picture as
:26:30. > :26:34.well. Softbank team Japan have to give way straightaway, the French
:26:35. > :26:43.have do gybe they have to go around the mark. This a dangerous spot for
:26:44. > :26:48.this time in the race. Every sinew being stretched but it does look as
:26:49. > :26:54.if British sailing fans will have more to celebrate here. On the
:26:55. > :27:00.shores of Portsmouth as Ben Ainslie and Land Rover BAR storm their way
:27:01. > :27:05.to the finishing line, they both put up a handy lead and this would
:27:06. > :27:17.represent an excellent return for their hard work. Still powering the
:27:18. > :27:22.boat forward. Two victories for Land Rover BAR and Ben Ainslie with
:27:23. > :27:27.another special moment for British racing and the man at the helm
:27:28. > :27:32.congratulated by his team-mates. A job well done, two wins out of three
:27:33. > :27:37.and giving the crowd exactly what they came for. The racing was very
:27:38. > :27:42.tight, as you saw. A lot of boat handling was critical. Especially
:27:43. > :27:46.going round the gates, the guys did a good job in stressful
:27:47. > :27:51.circumstances. You have five of the best teams in the world breathing
:27:52. > :27:54.down your neck so it is not easy. We have all seen Ben Ainslie,
:27:55. > :27:58.particularly in the Olympic arena pull something out when he had to,
:27:59. > :28:03.way surprised at how he came back from the first race? Absolutely not.
:28:04. > :28:09.He has so much more experience in this type of boat and at this venue.
:28:10. > :28:13.It would be amazing to me if he doesn't come out on top this weekend
:28:14. > :28:18.frankly. They have probably done 100 more days in this boat than anyone
:28:19. > :28:21.else out here. That doesn't excuse the performances from guys like
:28:22. > :28:27.ourselves and some of the other top teams who didn't do well today. We
:28:28. > :28:31.just need to start making less mistakes around the racecourse. Day
:28:32. > :28:36.one imports must and not the easiest day? A tough day for everyone. A
:28:37. > :28:41.locked position changes, you can be first or last in an instant. Not a
:28:42. > :28:47.bad day for us, we are sailing better yesterday. Two second places,
:28:48. > :28:54.we made a mistake in the last one but it is all tied up for tomorrow
:28:55. > :28:58.and it is really open, the regatta. After three complete races here on
:28:59. > :29:01.day one in Portsmouth it is the home team who topped the leaderboard.
:29:02. > :29:12.Courtesy of two race wins. A good David Dean Barker and
:29:13. > :29:18.Softbank team Japan. Jimmy Spittal and Oracle Team USA will not be
:29:19. > :29:21.happy down in fourth. It is quite a sight watching these boats fly
:29:22. > :29:26.around the Solent but in Bermuda next year they will not be racing in
:29:27. > :29:28.these boats, these machines promise to take the sport to a whole new
:29:29. > :29:38.level. The teams are not allowed to launch
:29:39. > :29:41.the boats for next year 's cup until just after Christmas but they are
:29:42. > :29:52.allowed to make test builds which is exactly what they have been doing
:29:53. > :29:56.and the results are spectacular. The boats the teams are striving towards
:29:57. > :30:00.will be 50 foot long, and just like the World Series boats they will be
:30:01. > :30:08.foil and wind powered multihulls. They can only build one ultimate cup
:30:09. > :30:10.built, so they have looked outside of hailing and are drawing on
:30:11. > :30:17.technology from all manner of industries. And at Land Rover BAR
:30:18. > :30:22.the man running the show is a very high-tech person. Martin, sailing is
:30:23. > :30:29.not your world, where have you come from? I was 25 years motor racing,
:30:30. > :30:33.mainly Formula 1. I got involved in this as a non-sailor knowing nothing
:30:34. > :30:37.about the America's Cup. A lot of people wondered why I wanted to do
:30:38. > :30:41.this, and it is a much smaller environment compared to motor racing
:30:42. > :30:44.but that is part of the appeal. I think it's fresher. The rule book is
:30:45. > :30:49.more open, there's more opportunity to differentiate. Formula 1 has
:30:50. > :30:53.grown stacks of rules and regulations such that it's
:30:54. > :30:57.increasingly difficult to make a difference. Here I think there's a
:30:58. > :31:01.great opportunity. 165 years after the cup was made, it's never been on
:31:02. > :31:04.our mantelpiece in this country and I think to be part of that process
:31:05. > :31:08.which hopefully achieves that I think is exciting for all of us.
:31:09. > :31:15.From a technological approach just explain to us what you have to do to
:31:16. > :31:19.do that. Well we don't know yet. But we think we know. I think the
:31:20. > :31:24.history in America's Cup is generally the quickest boat wins.
:31:25. > :31:29.Simply put within the confines of the class will we've got to give
:31:30. > :31:34.them the quickest boat and that's what we are hoping to do. What are
:31:35. > :31:37.the challenge to making that happen? These are big, powerful, complex
:31:38. > :31:44.boats. America's Cup has really changed. They were already complex,
:31:45. > :31:49.big powerful catamarans, foiling has changed the sport. The challenge is
:31:50. > :31:55.how to develop these technologies. When they are performing well, less
:31:56. > :32:00.than 1% of the surface area is in water, so they are not boats as we
:32:01. > :32:02.know it. That means the sport changes, the technical challenges,
:32:03. > :32:08.materials, control systems, electronics, hydraulics, all things
:32:09. > :32:12.that were present before are probably orders of magnitude more
:32:13. > :32:16.complex and critical. What do you think you have brought to it? Well I
:32:17. > :32:20.think more importantly I think there is a fantastically strong team here.
:32:21. > :32:23.We've got a team where we've got America's Cup grandees, these are
:32:24. > :32:26.guys who have been around for awhile, done America's Cup
:32:27. > :32:30.challengers, they know what it's like to win the Cup. More recently
:32:31. > :32:39.we've brought people with backgrounds such as myself,
:32:40. > :32:44.automotive, aerospace. They bring, commentary skills which is crucial
:32:45. > :32:48.to us getting the most out of the process -- complementary skills. The
:32:49. > :32:53.crowds are back in their thousands on day two and Land Rover BAR are
:32:54. > :32:55.the team to beat. In the world of the America's Cup Eckel Sunday super
:32:56. > :33:04.Sunday because it's double points racing which means we could see
:33:05. > :33:09.dramatic changes on the leaderboard. Setting up for the first race of the
:33:10. > :33:13.day in these iconic waters, a brand-new opportunity, then, for the
:33:14. > :33:14.whole fleet. Very different conditions to yesterday. The wind
:33:15. > :33:26.has picked write-up. The first race of day to, the breeze
:33:27. > :33:30.having kicked in, the fleet ready faction to make their mark on the of
:33:31. > :33:36.the Solent. Double points on offer, and they are away at speed. Lets see
:33:37. > :33:43.who can get up on the foil the quickest and Ainsley starts the
:33:44. > :33:46.closest to us. He's been doing that consistently you just want clear
:33:47. > :33:50.air. He has confidence on his ability to get through the fleet if
:33:51. > :33:54.he gets behind and he doesn't want to take the chance of getting spat
:33:55. > :34:00.out the back. Good, conservative start by Ben Ainslie that might have
:34:01. > :34:04.him first coming into mark number one. Sucked and incinerating site to
:34:05. > :34:10.see these boats upon the foils. Really going for it in the early
:34:11. > :34:11.stages, as they hit Mach one, Land Rover BAR and Sir Ben Ainslie in
:34:12. > :34:26.front. All action on the Artemis Racing
:34:27. > :34:35.boat. They are heading down wind at high speed. Everybody chasing the
:34:36. > :34:39.home team boat right now. Ainslie has come to play, two out of three
:34:40. > :34:46.race wins yesterday. Nice little jump today. At Oracle Team USA, it's
:34:47. > :34:48.amazing how close they are to the leaders of the overall series, yet
:34:49. > :35:06.they haven't won regatta. So come into gate to, and it is Land
:35:07. > :35:11.Rover BAR rounding it the quickest, they are informed by some 20 metres
:35:12. > :35:18.or so. But Oracle Team USA are hard on the heels. Coming a little bit
:35:19. > :35:21.deeper. You see the other boat struggling to get their angle is
:35:22. > :35:26.correct behind them. This will be a nice gap for first and second placed
:35:27. > :35:32.boats. It could turn into a two boat race quickly. Everybody chasing Land
:35:33. > :35:36.Rover BAR currently, who are ripping their way forwards. And once again
:35:37. > :35:40.we are seeing this battle between Sir Ben Ainslie and Jimmy Spithill,
:35:41. > :35:45.former team-mate but great rivals. They will be relishing this battle
:35:46. > :35:49.together. What a sight for tens of thousands of sports fans. These
:35:50. > :35:53.aren't just sailing fans. You walk around the waterfront and talk to
:35:54. > :35:57.people and ask them, are you a sailor? At least 50% of the time
:35:58. > :36:01.they say no, they are just here to watch a cool sporting event, and
:36:02. > :36:05.what a venue for it. Amazing location, amazing sight. Another
:36:06. > :36:11.thousand or so boats on the water watching as well. This is what the
:36:12. > :36:24.modern America's Cup is all about. Land Rover BAR and Oracle Team USA
:36:25. > :36:27.locked in battle. Ainslie will definitely be keeping a close eye on
:36:28. > :36:34.Oracle Team USA. These two boats had a big jump. They had a big jump on
:36:35. > :36:39.the rest of the fleet. So it turns into a bit of a match race, they
:36:40. > :36:49.will watch each other, and Ainslie will not let Oracle out of their
:36:50. > :36:54.sites very far. Teamwork in action. Going up wind, they overstepped the
:36:55. > :36:59.mark a little bit which means they probably went a little too far onto
:37:00. > :37:02.their lay line, onto the closest course of the mark, but it allows
:37:03. > :37:07.them to pop up on the foils before they go round the mark, probably net
:37:08. > :37:12.even when it's all said and done. Lose a bit of ground but go quite a
:37:13. > :37:17.bit faster. We saw those manoeuvres taking that much longer yesterday,
:37:18. > :37:22.didn't we? These are altogether different conditions, hence the
:37:23. > :37:28.flight time for Land Rover BAR, time spent literally in the air.
:37:29. > :37:33.The beauty of this course, as we were mentioning throughout
:37:34. > :37:39.yesterday, just how close they are the 30 metres offshore. Stadium
:37:40. > :37:42.racing here in the Solent. Sir Ben Ainslie ripping through the gears.
:37:43. > :37:51.Ripping through the gate and 24 knots right now. This is not your
:37:52. > :37:57.grandmother's America's Cup. Ramsgate four and back up wind they
:37:58. > :38:00.go. Very smooth rounding. Nice smooth job getting from on the foils
:38:01. > :38:07.back into displacement mode as they go back up wind. That was a perfect
:38:08. > :38:12.mark round. So still it is Land Rover BAR who are bossing the race,
:38:13. > :38:20.this opening race of day two of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World
:38:21. > :38:23.Series. Unlike five of seven. You look back at the pack, Oracle racing
:38:24. > :38:28.has a nice lay line meaning the direct cause into this gate down
:38:29. > :38:31.forward on the right-hand side of our screen is Artemis Racing who
:38:32. > :38:39.have passed Emirates Team New Zealand. Into third place the
:38:40. > :38:45.Swedes, behind Oracle Team USA. Land Rover BAR leading from the front as
:38:46. > :38:49.they round gate five. Artemis Racing might make this mark and actually
:38:50. > :38:54.get around and be very close to second place. Bit of an over
:38:55. > :39:00.stand-by Oracle racing which means they've allowed Mr get right back in
:39:01. > :39:08.the hunt. Great regatta last time out in Chicago for the Swedes.
:39:09. > :39:16.SoftBank Team Japan disputing fourth and fifth, and the French in six as
:39:17. > :39:21.they head down wind once again. Very close call between Emirates Team New
:39:22. > :39:28.Zealand and Artemis Racing. Land Rover BAR flying across the water,
:39:29. > :39:32.46% of the time up on the foils. We are going to see this time and again
:39:33. > :39:36.in the coming months particularly as we had to Bermuda where the boats
:39:37. > :39:41.are very much built for this kind of thing. Exactly. They are talking
:39:42. > :39:46.about for healing in Bermuda up wind up as well as down wind, so they are
:39:47. > :39:51.flying all the time down wind, and they are not flying upwind. In
:39:52. > :39:59.Bermuda we might see it close to 100% of the time. Absolutely
:40:00. > :40:02.steaming away to the finish line. Land Rover BAR and Sir Ben Ainslie
:40:03. > :40:10.driving the boat to the finish line to the delight of thousands of
:40:11. > :40:15.supporters revelling in these conditions, revelling in the success
:40:16. > :40:19.of seeing their men, the hometown team. STUDIO: So Land Rover BAR
:40:20. > :40:24.start dating with another win putting them one step closer to
:40:25. > :40:27.victory here in Portsmouth. They are a tight-knit team, fully focused on
:40:28. > :40:33.winning together in whatever they do, as I found out last week.
:40:34. > :40:37.Sailing America's Cup boats is really full on, you've got to have
:40:38. > :40:39.some relaxation. To get a bit of time off, what do they want to do?
:40:40. > :40:58.Something competitive. I want to see a good 200 yard are
:40:59. > :41:06.here unleashed. You be quiet. Heh heh! Nice. That's quite the opposite
:41:07. > :41:13.of mine. Grown-up sailing against each other in the programme and
:41:14. > :41:16.started match racing. In every book I have sailed with him I've always
:41:17. > :41:20.wanted him to be the guy at the front, got confident he will do the
:41:21. > :41:24.right thing at the right time, and then you can abuse him afterwards
:41:25. > :41:29.when he does and which is just as much fun. We are good mates and
:41:30. > :41:34.we've known each other for a long time and it's part of what makes us
:41:35. > :41:37.so strong, when we get into the nitty-gritty bit of it, we just want
:41:38. > :41:41.to work for each other. It is massively important, if you all pull
:41:42. > :41:47.together you will be much better together. You are going to win this
:41:48. > :41:52.hole, I can see it. He's the only one who can beat me. He's the only
:41:53. > :41:57.one who can't hit the ball off the floor, can't hit it far enough to
:41:58. > :42:01.lose it. Great guys to have on-board, you can guarantee that not
:42:02. > :42:05.only they will give 100%, at the boat handling will always be spot
:42:06. > :42:09.on. You can suggest something to them, it's all constructive just to
:42:10. > :42:12.try to make the boat go faster. It's good to have that relationship with
:42:13. > :42:15.the guys that everyone can say what they think and know one will take
:42:16. > :42:26.offence and everyone will take it on board. I thought you were going to
:42:27. > :42:31.get it close. No chance. Ho Ho! Bend's are really amazing guy.
:42:32. > :42:36.There's a lot of joking. When it comes to getting serious it gets
:42:37. > :42:41.properly serious. He's a mate all sailors and everything but he's
:42:42. > :42:44.also, he wants to win as much as anyone, more than anyone, and is
:42:45. > :42:48.pretty serious about getting the job done. He's probably the most focused
:42:49. > :42:54.out of everyone that we get on the water, and he's a good example for
:42:55. > :42:59.all of us. Then is probably the biggest man in our team. It's his
:43:00. > :43:02.name above the door, he's the one that brings the money in, gets the
:43:03. > :43:06.team rolling. He's putting everything into this and we need to
:43:07. > :43:18.be doing the same. Come on then, you've got to make it off the tee.
:43:19. > :43:21.Hey hey!. It's great to be part of something British. Everybody goes
:43:22. > :43:27.that extra mile to try to help bring the cup home. To achieve something
:43:28. > :43:29.that no other team has done that's represented this country basically
:43:30. > :43:34.means everything and this is a massive opportunity for us to do it.
:43:35. > :43:45.So all we want to do is get it done, bring it back. They are a passionate
:43:46. > :43:48.bunch Sir Ben Ainslie has on-board. It was a lot of fun filming that.
:43:49. > :43:53.There's no messing about now, they've got their game faces on.
:43:54. > :43:57.Let's get back out on the water. COMMENTATOR: Lined up for race two,
:43:58. > :44:00.the penultimate race of the Portsmouth event, just two more
:44:01. > :44:04.chances to snaffle the valuable points, with the boats all vying for
:44:05. > :44:08.position already. You could see it was all clear. Artemis Racing and
:44:09. > :44:14.SoftBank Team Japan with really solid starts. Four boats in the
:44:15. > :44:19.front line going into Mach number one with Ainslie getting spit out
:44:20. > :44:27.the back a bit. On-board Oracle Team USA in these early stages as they
:44:28. > :44:29.get up on the foils nice and quick. Just radical action! Oh, that's
:44:30. > :44:43.fantastic. We go on board with Artemis Racing.
:44:44. > :44:48.It is more like stockcar racing that anything we have seen. Cutting in
:44:49. > :44:58.front is not exactly drafting but you are in a position to go three
:44:59. > :45:01.wide going into a corner. Testing racing for all of these sailors and
:45:02. > :45:09.everything happening at breakneck speed. Not a perfect job for Oracle
:45:10. > :45:14.Team USA but they come out of it OK. You can see how unstable things get
:45:15. > :45:17.from time to time, especially when gybing for positioning going into
:45:18. > :45:26.gate number one. Fascinating on the water views of these things foaming.
:45:27. > :45:32.Oracle Team USA setting the pace from SoftBank Team Japan and Artemis
:45:33. > :45:38.Racing and Land Rover BAR contesting fourth and third. The French at the
:45:39. > :45:42.back. Roles reversed in the second race of the day. It is the Americans
:45:43. > :45:49.leading the way currently with a 90 metres lead over Land Rover BAR who
:45:50. > :45:52.were victorious in the opening race of the day. Jimmy Spittal Hill and
:45:53. > :45:58.Sir Ben Ainslie going head-to-head once more at the front of the fleet.
:45:59. > :46:05.They will love this battle. Jimmy Spithill arrived with the stated
:46:06. > :46:09.intention of spoiling Ben Ainslie's day. So many people have turned out
:46:10. > :46:17.to see him. The most decorated Olympic sailor in history. A tight
:46:18. > :46:23.battle between all three of these guys, Emirates Team New Zealand come
:46:24. > :46:31.across ahead of Japan and Britain. This is a change of events. --
:46:32. > :46:35.Britain. One point is so desperate for these guys. Ben Ainslie
:46:36. > :46:40.concentrate so much on SoftBank Team Japan that he is passed by Emirates
:46:41. > :46:50.Team New Zealand. These are the runaway leaders.
:46:51. > :47:01.So well led by Jimmy Spittal, the youngest skipper to win the
:47:02. > :47:06.America's Cup way back in 2010 as a 30-year-old before producing the
:47:07. > :47:13.goods in 2013 in the waters of San Francisco. Tom Slingsby saying they
:47:14. > :47:17.are on a match with Ben Ainslie, so they want to stay between Ben
:47:18. > :47:23.Ainslie and the mark. Another fascinating dynamic. They want to
:47:24. > :47:27.know how much the Americans are keeping a close eye on the Brits.
:47:28. > :47:33.Are they keeping one eye all the time on Ben Ainslie and Land Rover
:47:34. > :47:37.BAR. Right now they are. For two reasons, they want to beat them in
:47:38. > :47:43.the race and they want to give Ben, if they are close enough, as much
:47:44. > :47:49.disturbed air, wing wash as we call it, not much Jimmy Spithill can do
:47:50. > :47:55.from an interference level on a downwind leg like this. He could
:47:56. > :48:00.throw a bit of bad air, 34% of flight time in this race, not nearly
:48:01. > :48:05.as good as 48% that Ben Ainslie had in the first race but not bad. It
:48:06. > :48:09.will be interesting to see a comparison against everybody else
:48:10. > :48:13.when the race is over. That number seeming to rise as they powered
:48:14. > :48:17.downwind towards the finishing line. The Americans are some way out in
:48:18. > :48:25.front, 26 knots being cranked up here. Land Rover BA are and Japan
:48:26. > :48:31.occupying second and third places. The Americans are runaway leaders in
:48:32. > :48:36.race two. Oracle Team USA and Jimmy Spithill rounding gate six and the
:48:37. > :48:41.short stretch to the finish. They have been incredibly consistent here
:48:42. > :48:46.in Portsmouth. They have yet to top the leaderboard. That will happen
:48:47. > :48:50.here in a few moments time as they reorganise themselves and power
:48:51. > :48:55.towards the finishing line. It will be a first victory here on the
:48:56. > :49:02.Solent for Jimmy Spithill and Oracle Team USA. One in the eye for the
:49:03. > :49:06.British crew and it has perhaps come from their main rival, Jimmy
:49:07. > :49:11.Spithill and Oracle Team USA. Not far away, Land Rover BAR and Sir Ben
:49:12. > :49:16.Ainslie but having to settle for second this time. The Japanese
:49:17. > :49:21.following in behind them. That win for the American set up a tense
:49:22. > :49:27.finish in Portsmouth. Land Rover BAR just three points ahead of Oracle
:49:28. > :49:33.Team USA. This is it, the final race of the weekend. The points are so
:49:34. > :49:37.close that it is all on. Last chance for the fleet to show their
:49:38. > :49:41.capabilities in front of this huge crowd on the waterfront, the final
:49:42. > :49:47.race of the day and of the series. Emirates Team New Zealand riding
:49:48. > :49:50.very close to that marker but they are away. Oracle pulled the trigger
:49:51. > :49:55.better than anyone else in that start. Ben Ainslie caught up in a
:49:56. > :50:01.ball of four bugs but it looked like he might have escaped it but Oracle
:50:02. > :50:08.mailed the timing. Oracle Team USA off to a great start. All hands to
:50:09. > :50:14.the pump as they reach for the first mark with the bank looming
:50:15. > :50:19.interview. We already have battle joined between Oracle Team USA and
:50:20. > :50:23.Land Rover BAR. Sir Ben Ainslie looking to guide his crew to a
:50:24. > :50:31.second victory today. So to, Jimmy Spithill, huge imbalance by the Land
:50:32. > :50:35.Rover boat there. Not the smoothest gybe but this is a game of inches
:50:36. > :50:39.right now so I don't think you can make any mistakes and come out
:50:40. > :50:44.ahead. One bad gybe and look how big the lead is now for Oracle compare
:50:45. > :50:50.to how it was before that gybe. Oracle Team USA hard at work.
:50:51. > :50:59.Forcing that boat further, faster and stronger. Trying to apply
:51:00. > :51:04.pressure at every key moment. The current leaders of this race. Oracle
:51:05. > :51:12.Team USA. Streaking ahead and downwind to gate four. If the race
:51:13. > :51:18.were to stop now, it would be Land Rover BAR who led the series as they
:51:19. > :51:22.head to Bermuda next June. The first and second places in the America's
:51:23. > :51:27.Cup World Series over all carry points through to the America's Cup
:51:28. > :51:32.qualify as proper in Bermuda. With this setup right now and the double
:51:33. > :51:36.points, I was not very good in mathematics at school, the Americans
:51:37. > :51:42.are one point by kind, they need a boat between themselves and Ben
:51:43. > :51:47.Ainslie. Will they be computing that on board? They will be talking about
:51:48. > :51:52.it. They have to be talking about it. It depends if they are happy
:51:53. > :51:56.with second place overall in the event. They could slow them down,
:51:57. > :52:00.team New Zealand are not far behind now. Can they slay Ben Ainslie done
:52:01. > :52:04.enough to get team New Zealand back in the game. It is tricky, they
:52:05. > :52:09.would have to get one boat in between and going at speed it is not
:52:10. > :52:16.easy. A game of cat and mouse out on the Solent. For the time being, no
:52:17. > :52:20.sign of respite from Oracle Team USA. Oracle Team USA really sailing
:52:21. > :52:28.high right now which means close to the wind. Land Rover double tacks
:52:29. > :52:32.and so do Oracle, there is cat and mouse going on, I am surprised
:52:33. > :52:36.Oracle has not come back a little more to affect them even more.
:52:37. > :52:41.Interesting move by Ben Ainslie. He let team New Zealand go in the top
:52:42. > :52:45.left of our screen. In order to stay with team Japan on this side of the
:52:46. > :52:49.racecourse, he just needs to keep in second place. If he does too many
:52:50. > :52:56.manoeuvres, he slows the game down and lets the others back in. Heading
:52:57. > :53:02.towards gate five. That'll well and truly joined. Oracle Team USA 130
:53:03. > :53:09.metres in front of the British boat. Going at some speed now. Another
:53:10. > :53:13.manoeuvre from the Americans which will slow them up a touch. The
:53:14. > :53:19.Americans tacked right on the lay line. Ben Ainslie tacks right on top
:53:20. > :53:24.of Dean Barker to make sure he stays in between but where are the Kiwis?
:53:25. > :53:28.Did they make enough of a game? It looks like Ben Ainslie is still
:53:29. > :53:36.ahead of that pack as we go back out to the wide screen in a. You can see
:53:37. > :53:40.Ben Ainslie racing right on top of SoftBank Team Japan. Same strategy
:53:41. > :53:45.that Oracle would doing to him, he is doing to them. Using wing wash to
:53:46. > :53:53.affect them and push them backwards. He now just needs a smooth ride into
:53:54. > :54:02.the finish. Land Rover BAR into gate five, Emirates Team New Zealand are
:54:03. > :54:05.in third place. Ben Ainslie and Land Rover BAR just need to finish
:54:06. > :54:09.second, the regatta will be theirs and the series lead will be theirs
:54:10. > :54:16.were just a single point. That is how tight this is right now. I was a
:54:17. > :54:21.bit ignorant with my mathematics earlier on in this game but that is
:54:22. > :54:26.the case. One boat has to be in between the Americans and the Brits
:54:27. > :54:30.for the Americans to win. The Brits have been so smooth downwind. He is
:54:31. > :54:37.looking around to deciding what to do, will they stop at this next gate
:54:38. > :54:43.to mix it up on the last gate. Is that a possibility? Absolutely. Land
:54:44. > :54:48.Rover BAR operating at speeds of up to 19 knots, slowing on the turn.
:54:49. > :54:55.Looking to apply a little extra heat to Oracle Team USA. SoftBank Team
:54:56. > :54:59.Japan some 130 metres behind the British boat. Seemingly second-place
:55:00. > :55:09.in the bag but nothing can be discounted at this stage. Up towards
:55:10. > :55:14.gate six. The final gate, it is a short finish remember. Oracle Team
:55:15. > :55:22.USA seemingly intent on heading there at some lick. No slowing up
:55:23. > :55:27.from the Americans. Land Rover BAR at ten behind them looking to finish
:55:28. > :55:33.in second place and take the regatta and the America's Cup World Series
:55:34. > :55:37.lead. Cheered on by the thousands on the waterfront, the union flags are
:55:38. > :55:44.up but it is Oracle Team USA who win the race. And they are some 85
:55:45. > :55:48.metres clear of Land Rover BAR who will scheme in for second place. It
:55:49. > :55:56.will mean victory in the regatta here in Portsmouth. Active back wins
:55:57. > :56:00.for the British boat. The double in Portsmouth for Land Rover BAR and
:56:01. > :56:07.four Ben Ainslie. With it comes the series lead over all. Fantastic
:56:08. > :56:10.racing, obviously a little bit of emotion. Everyone works hard out
:56:11. > :56:16.there but to win in front of your home crowd, there is nothing more
:56:17. > :56:20.special. It is amazing for us as a home team to be able to win these
:56:21. > :56:28.home races. It is why we train and compete. We try and do Portsmouth
:56:29. > :56:31.proud, a fantastic event. I cannot say enough about how well the guys
:56:32. > :56:37.sailed these boats, it is meant to be tough to sail around these tight
:56:38. > :56:42.courses. It was as good as anyone, if not better and put us in good
:56:43. > :56:47.stead for the weekend. That is it for the weekend, what a win for the
:56:48. > :57:02.local team, Land Rover BAR, topping the leaderboard import smut.
:57:03. > :57:24.Ladies and gentlemen, the local team, Land Rover BAR. CHEERING
:57:25. > :57:30.And there is now just one point separating first and second on the
:57:31. > :57:36.World Series rankings. Land Rover BAR jumped up into first place but
:57:37. > :57:41.right behind them, Oracle Team USA. Emirates Team New Zealand drop-down
:57:42. > :57:48.two places to third. It has been quite a weekend here in Portsmouth.
:57:49. > :57:51.That if that is a taster of what we can expect next year in Bermuda, we
:57:52. > :57:56.are in for a real treat. This weekend will be remembered for the
:57:57. > :58:33.home team Ben Ainslie and his boys delivering when it matters most.
:58:34. > :58:40.Another special moment for British racing, victory in the regatta here
:58:41. > :58:58.in Portsmouth and with it comes the series lead over all.
:58:59. > :59:02.This place is home to more than 80,000 refugees,
