:00:13. > :00:17.Welcome to the BBC Sports Centre. I'm Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes and we

:00:18. > :00:29.have a lock to pack in. This is Saturday Sportsday.

:00:30. > :00:33.Here is what is coming up in the show. The British weather has

:00:34. > :00:36.affected all parts of our lives this week. We have been looking at how

:00:37. > :00:41.the sporting calendar has been disrupted as well. Brett Seymour is

:00:42. > :00:46.concentrating on the start of the new Super League season this week.

:00:47. > :00:51.We will hear how he has turned his life around after a suicide attempt

:00:52. > :00:54.last year. And Derek Chisora will tell us how

:00:55. > :01:01.he has become a more placid heavyweight boxing champion. Here

:01:02. > :01:06.are today's headlines. Great Britain's golden girl, a Lizzy

:01:07. > :01:11.Yarnold, says she cannot believe she has joined a select list of Winter

:01:12. > :01:16.Olympic champions. She will collect her gold medal later this afternoon.

:01:17. > :01:21.Tributes have been paid to one of England's leading goal-scorers, Sir

:01:22. > :01:27.Tom Finney, who died last night at the age of 91.

:01:28. > :01:31.And Felix Magath is the new boss at Fulham. He has replaced Rene

:01:32. > :01:36.Meulensteen after just 17 games in charge. He says the club's owners

:01:37. > :01:40.have pressed the panic button trying to avoid relegation. Right you're up

:01:41. > :01:43.to date with all the news, so let's get back to Sochi where our

:01:44. > :01:45.Correspondent Andy Swiss is following the Olympic action there.

:01:46. > :01:49.Andy, we'll talk about Britain's golden girl Lizzy Yarnold in a

:01:50. > :01:53.minute. I know you've had a chat with her this morning, but I want to

:01:54. > :01:56.ask you first about speed skater Elise Christie because she's missed

:01:57. > :02:03.out on another medal chance, hasn't she? Yes, it has been a

:02:04. > :02:08.heartbreaking few days for Elise Christie. She was disqualified on

:02:09. > :02:15.Thursday and disqualified today in the heats for the 1500 metres. She

:02:16. > :02:20.looked to have breezed through to the semifinals. But she was so far

:02:21. > :02:24.on the inside she did not cross the black finish line. Because of that

:02:25. > :02:27.she was disqualified. Not surprisingly, she was utterly

:02:28. > :02:36.distraught afterwards. She has reflected on a couple of difficult

:02:37. > :02:43.days. I saw it on the board and I had no idea. I was playing safe

:02:44. > :02:48.after what happened the other day and I was trying not to touch anyone

:02:49. > :02:53.or be near anyone. I did not have a clue what has happened. I am

:02:54. > :03:01.gobsmacked. I expected this decision the other day but today I have no

:03:02. > :03:08.idea. A really tough week for Elise Christie. Better news for Britain's

:03:09. > :03:15.women's curlers. They won their latest round robin match against

:03:16. > :03:19.South Korea. Eve Muirhead held her nerve so Britain record 10-8 win in

:03:20. > :03:24.that match against South Korea, their third victory in a row so

:03:25. > :03:28.things are looking good for them in this qualifying competition. Sad for

:03:29. > :03:33.Elise Christie but she has her favourite event to come and other

:03:34. > :03:38.medal chances. Let's bask in the glory of the golden girl Lizzy

:03:39. > :03:44.Yarnold. You chatted to her earlier. Had you got a photograph? She was

:03:45. > :03:48.grinning from ear to ear when I spoke to her and who can blame her.

:03:49. > :03:53.She led the skeleton competition from start to finish. This morning

:03:54. > :03:57.she told me her success was sinking in. Still not used to it. I think it

:03:58. > :04:03.will be days and days before it sinks in and I can start calling

:04:04. > :04:07.myself the Olympic champion. Did you get any chance to celebrate at all

:04:08. > :04:12.last night? After the third run and I got a track record, I could relax

:04:13. > :04:22.a little bit and enjoy it and remember what it is about skeleton

:04:23. > :04:24.that I love and it drives me. It is about always bettering my own

:04:25. > :04:27.performance. Letting this lead runner I know I made a few people

:04:28. > :04:33.nervous. But that is the fun of it, there is never a perfect run. How

:04:34. > :04:39.did she celebrate this morning? By drinking a cup of tea and listening

:04:40. > :04:43.to the archers. How very British! Now we know the bad weather is still

:04:44. > :04:46.causing chaos all over the country and it's starting to really take its

:04:47. > :04:49.toll on the sporting calendar as well. Today there are several

:04:50. > :04:51.football matches off including Sheffield Wednesday's fifth round FA

:04:52. > :04:58.Cup tie against Charlton. Patrick Geary has been taking a closer look

:04:59. > :05:01.for us. Perhaps nothing unusual about rain

:05:02. > :05:05.in Manchester but with ferocious winds, it was exceptional. The

:05:06. > :05:14.women's tour through the tree and with it the fixture list will stop.

:05:15. > :05:21.Premiership football, the impounded the non-men and had lost out to the

:05:22. > :05:30.weather. -- the billion pound phenomenon. At the Etihad the wind

:05:31. > :05:34.knocked over the programme huts. Rearranging games has become common

:05:35. > :05:39.in non-league football. 11 matches have been called off in the

:05:40. > :05:44.conference National North and South. Their financial future can depend on

:05:45. > :05:52.the floods receding. There is a lot riding on Cheltenham racecourse, to

:05:53. > :05:56.ensure the going is rather lest -- left soft before the Cheltenham

:05:57. > :06:04.Festival. Worcester Cricket ground are working around the water. The

:06:05. > :06:08.plan is to go on tour and then we will use Kidderminster, our second

:06:09. > :06:12.ground for preseason practice. We are hoping the water will go down

:06:13. > :06:20.over the next few weeks and the ground staff can sort it. The ground

:06:21. > :06:26.is hosting some sport, these pupils at a local School have plenty of

:06:27. > :06:29.space to practice. Now rugby player Brett Seymour is

:06:30. > :06:32.taking a positive view as he looks to make his Super League debut for

:06:33. > :06:36.Castleford Tigers tomorrow at Bradford. The Australian is getting

:06:37. > :06:40.his career back on track after trying to take his own life last

:06:41. > :06:43.year. His lowest point was triggered by one bad performance but he says

:06:44. > :06:46.the Sporting Chance clinic has been crucial to his recovery. Here's our

:06:47. > :06:54.Rugby League commentator George Riley.

:06:55. > :06:59.Everything came to a halt. Things caught up with me. My mental state

:07:00. > :07:05.was not where it usually is. For most rugby league players, the new

:07:06. > :07:11.season offers excitement, hope and fresh challenges. For Brett Seymour,

:07:12. > :07:16.it is simply about starting again. His troubles came to a head playing

:07:17. > :07:26.for Hull FC against Widnes. Seymour's mistakes were caught on

:07:27. > :07:32.live television. Brett Seymour, that was a very poor pass indeed. The

:07:33. > :07:37.next day, after taking a combination of alcohol and sleeping pills, he

:07:38. > :07:42.drove towards the Humber Bridge with the intention of driving straight

:07:43. > :07:47.off it. Instead, he crashed into two parked cars, flipping his over. It

:07:48. > :07:54.proved a turning point in a long battle against depression. I was

:07:55. > :07:58.feeling a bit down about my football, my rugby and it was

:07:59. > :08:06.overlapping into my life at home as well. My wife had a word to me a few

:08:07. > :08:10.times. She was sensing something was up with me. Brett has had a

:08:11. > :08:15.chequered rugby league career. He was sacked by two clubs in Australia

:08:16. > :08:19.for alcohol-related incidents, convicted of drink driving and

:08:20. > :08:24.refusing to stop for police, that was all before he came to Super

:08:25. > :08:29.League. He then checked into Sporting Chance, the clinic set up

:08:30. > :08:35.by the former England defender Tony Adams. I have been put on two people

:08:36. > :08:41.at Sporting Chance now who have been tremendous. Without them, I would

:08:42. > :08:45.not be here. When he came back, he still looked a bit stressed but he

:08:46. > :08:53.looks like a freer individual and he's enjoying himself now which is

:08:54. > :08:56.great for him his family. Brett thought about giving up the game,

:08:57. > :09:03.before Castleford offered him a new chance. It is one he is determined

:09:04. > :09:09.to take. I have to much to live for at the minute and put my rugby to

:09:10. > :09:15.the back of my mind and look after my family. What happens out there

:09:16. > :09:23.stays out on the pitch now. I do not take any baggage out there. Now time

:09:24. > :09:26.to talk Athletics. It's the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix this

:09:27. > :09:31.weekend and a chance for the Olympic long-jump champion Greg Rutherford

:09:32. > :09:34.to rediscover his form from 2012. Rutherford and all the British

:09:35. > :09:37.athletes will be looking to impress with the squad for the World Indoor

:09:38. > :09:45.Championships selected on Tuesday. Phil Jones is there for the BBC. For

:09:46. > :09:51.many athletes it is the last outing before the Championships in Poland.

:09:52. > :09:57.Colin Jackson is alongside me. Let's talk about your event, the hurdles.

:09:58. > :10:01.There is no areas merit. We will not have the clash we were hoping for

:10:02. > :10:07.but I'm sure there will be a good demonstration. If you have a great

:10:08. > :10:15.opportunity to compete at this level. A 's great coup for this

:10:16. > :10:21.meeting is Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. She seemed to embrace the indoor

:10:22. > :10:26.season very well. This is an exciting time for her. It will be a

:10:27. > :10:32.last outing for the World Indoor Championships. It is great to see

:10:33. > :10:37.Greg Rutherford. He was not in Glasgow. It is a tough field for him

:10:38. > :10:42.in the long jump. It was tough for him to get here in the first place.

:10:43. > :10:51.He will enjoy this competition. And we are looking to a possible two

:10:52. > :10:56.mile record attempt as well. And enjoy the meeting. Colin and Denise

:10:57. > :11:00.are alongside me later on. Coverage starts in 20 minutes time

:11:01. > :11:04.after the news here on BBC One. Derek Chisora is a boxer who hasn't

:11:05. > :11:08.always shown himself in the best light. Remember his brawl with David

:11:09. > :11:11.Haye in 2012 and the subsequent loss of his boxing licence? But in the

:11:12. > :11:13.last 18 months, he's turned his career around. Now European

:11:14. > :11:16.Heavyweight Champion, he's closing-in another world title shot.

:11:17. > :11:19.And tonight he fights America's Kevin Johnson. So with flash

:11:20. > :11:27.photography from the outset, our reporter Tim Hague went to meet the

:11:28. > :11:38.man who confuses, to say the least. You probably know Derek Chisora for

:11:39. > :11:43.this. Or this. But while controversial, and complicated,

:11:44. > :11:48.behind the mask, there is now a softer side for Chisora. As he told

:11:49. > :11:53.me at his home, a course of anger management has helped with that.

:11:54. > :12:00.What did they say due? Go to your happy place. Is it easy? It is, I

:12:01. > :12:06.think everybody should be on it. Why? The world would be a better

:12:07. > :12:10.place. It is easy to forget that Derek Chisora once fought for the

:12:11. > :12:15.world heavyweight title against the Talib click to go. This sign at his

:12:16. > :12:20.local gym is now looking a bit sorry for itself but Chisora is not sorry

:12:21. > :12:25.about his past and looks only towards the future. You should not

:12:26. > :12:31.have regrets in life. Those things you call regrets are called

:12:32. > :12:37.experience. What inspires you? What inspires me most is I do not want to

:12:38. > :12:42.be a failure. I do not want to sit down and say, I could have been. I

:12:43. > :12:48.do not want to be one of those guys. The referee has stopped it. To

:12:49. > :12:52.reach that goal, Chisora will have to get past an ambitious Tyson Fury

:12:53. > :12:57.first. He's trying to get to the top. You do not get to the top by

:12:58. > :13:08.fighting nobodies. You have to fight somebody. Don't let the bravado fool

:13:09. > :13:14.you. This was Chisora before his European title fight in September,

:13:15. > :13:18.in tears, devastated at the death of his friend and mentor or Dean

:13:19. > :13:27.Powell. You know what, it did upset me. I am finding it hard right now.

:13:28. > :13:33.You miss him, don't you? Yes. I can tell that. How did you fight that

:13:34. > :13:44.day? The European title on the line, you know... As a great musician

:13:45. > :13:50.says, the show must go on. The show must go on... Stick with the boxing!

:13:51. > :13:53.It is goalless in the FA Cup fifth round between Sunderland and

:13:54. > :13:55.Southampton. We will have updates on BBC News. From all of us, it is

:13:56. > :14:00.goodbye.
