:00:07. > :00:11.Hello and welcome to the BBC sports Centre. Over the next 15 minutes, I

:00:12. > :00:13.will be taking you through the day 's top stories from the world of

:00:14. > :00:31.sport. This is Saturday Sportsday. Coming up in the programme: We will

:00:32. > :00:35.hear from the poster boy of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

:00:36. > :00:40.Michael Jamieson tells us how he is going for gold in his home city. We

:00:41. > :00:44.go behind the scenes with the only all-female crew at this year 's

:00:45. > :00:50.round the world yacht race, as they prepare for nine months at sea. And

:00:51. > :00:54.we will be live in Leeds, as the Rhinos take on Saint Helens. All of

:00:55. > :01:00.that to come but first, to some of the stories making the headlines

:01:01. > :01:04.this weekend. Brighton are into the championship

:01:05. > :01:07.play-off places after beating the overall last night. The defeat

:01:08. > :01:14.confirms their regulation to league one. Gary Johnson says it is sad but

:01:15. > :01:18.not a shock. Northampton Saints remain on course for a European and

:01:19. > :01:22.domestic double. They are second in the premiership and also through to

:01:23. > :01:31.the final of the challenge cup after beating harlequins last night. --

:01:32. > :01:36.Harlequins. And Ronnie O'Sullivan resumed his second-round match

:01:37. > :01:43.against Joe Perry this morning, trailing by 9-7.

:01:44. > :01:46.It is less than 100 days until is Glasgow hosts the Commonwealth

:01:47. > :01:50.Games. Michael Jamieson has been counting those days down ever since

:01:51. > :01:58.winning silver in London. He says the games will be the highlight of

:01:59. > :02:02.his career to date. For months, a city has strained

:02:03. > :02:07.under the weight of heavy construction. New venue now dominate

:02:08. > :02:10.the skyline and old venues have been transformed for track and field. The

:02:11. > :02:15.Commonwealth games are coming and the clock is ticking. And when the

:02:16. > :02:21.building stops on the games begin, the people here will put on a

:02:22. > :02:25.party. The Glaswegians are fiercely proud of their hospitality but they

:02:26. > :02:28.are also immensely proud of their own local heroes for these games,

:02:29. > :02:38.there is one name that stands out above the rest. Jameson in for. It

:02:39. > :02:46.is a fantastic silver medal. In the games in London changed my life. --

:02:47. > :02:49.the Olympic Games. It has made me enjoy things so much more, enjoy the

:02:50. > :02:57.process, enjoying the lifestyle of being an athlete. Where will you be?

:02:58. > :03:02.With this profile comes extra responsibilities. He is one of the

:03:03. > :03:06.key faces of the games this summer. When people mention Michael

:03:07. > :03:09.Jamieson, the Commonwealth games, the phase that comes out as the

:03:10. > :03:15.poster boy. You about poster boy of Glasgow 2014. It has been surreal.

:03:16. > :03:17.Being an ambassador for the Commonwealth games, I could never

:03:18. > :03:26.have imagined something like that happening.

:03:27. > :03:28.But the key focus is going one better than London. He believes he

:03:29. > :03:33.is now stronger physically and more importantly mentally. It is the

:03:34. > :03:37.reason why I never won Olympic gold, because I didn't think about winning

:03:38. > :03:40.Olympic gold until I was in the water. Looking back on it, that

:03:41. > :03:45.psychological difference is the reason I didn't win. That is what

:03:46. > :03:57.has changed. Talk us through the Commonwealth capital letter games

:03:58. > :04:00.dream. -- Commonwealth Games. I am an athlete that loves the big

:04:01. > :04:05.occasions, the added pressure and expectation. Hearing the crowd in

:04:06. > :04:08.London, on the last 50, it helps bring you home. I am not sure

:04:09. > :04:14.spectators really realise the influence they can have. Having this

:04:15. > :04:19.arena packed to the rafters and to hear the noise could help me to

:04:20. > :04:27.something that would be pretty special. The poster boy is ready and

:04:28. > :04:32.this time, he once gold. -- wants.

:04:33. > :04:36.That pool is hosting its first international event since the London

:04:37. > :04:39.games. The World Series diving has plenty of 2012 heroes taking part

:04:40. > :04:45.and getting in some big competition practice before going to Glasgow.

:04:46. > :04:53.The Aquatics Centre behind me is where London 2012, Tom Daley won

:04:54. > :05:01.Britain's only limbic diving medal. We have already beaten that total.

:05:02. > :05:06.Yesterday, this pair won their first medal of the season, claiming

:05:07. > :05:10.silver. There was more success when this pad claimed bronze in the

:05:11. > :05:14.final. On Sunday, attention turned to Tom Daley. He is competing in the

:05:15. > :05:19.ten metre event and taking on David Dyer, the reigning Olympic champion.

:05:20. > :05:24.It would be amazing to do well in front of the home crowd. It would be

:05:25. > :05:29.possible to relive the Olympic atmosphere, feeling like things are

:05:30. > :05:32.coming together. I put in a lot of hard work over the last six months

:05:33. > :05:36.to try and get to the stage now where I feel like I'm diving well

:05:37. > :05:41.and feeling good. Hopefully, it will also offer. For updates, keep across

:05:42. > :05:46.BBC Radio five live this weekend and check out the BBC sport website.

:05:47. > :05:53.To a group of women on the water, rather than in it, but no less

:05:54. > :05:58.brave. The crew of team SCA are the only female crew taking part in this

:05:59. > :06:06.year 's race. The team of 11 girls will sail around the clock for nine

:06:07. > :06:10.months. It is known as the toughest Ocean

:06:11. > :06:17.race in the world. 11 women, one boat, nine months, one challenge.

:06:18. > :06:23.Nobody should underestimate what these girls are going to do. When

:06:24. > :06:27.we're out there, we only have each other to depend on. You are trusting

:06:28. > :06:31.them with your life. It is intense. There is rivalry between teams. I

:06:32. > :06:37.cannot wait to get on at the start line. The Volvo Ocean race for me is

:06:38. > :06:41.the pinnacle crew around the world event. The opportunity has arisen

:06:42. > :06:45.with this team for girls to compete on a level playing field with the

:06:46. > :06:50.guys in the race. I don't think there is a female sailor who is not

:06:51. > :06:55.aware of what can come from this, and the inspiration we can beat a

:06:56. > :06:59.future generations of sailors. But only have I never sailed around the

:07:00. > :07:02.world before, I will not have sailed against most of these guys until we

:07:03. > :07:06.get out there and start the race. For us, we have something to prove.

:07:07. > :07:12.This is the first opportunity that women have ever really had in the

:07:13. > :07:16.Volvo race, or in fact, any big boat race. The last time there was an

:07:17. > :07:19.all-female crew in this race was 12 years ago but this is the first time

:07:20. > :07:24.a team has been put together in the same way as an all-male team. There

:07:25. > :07:27.is no excuse. We know we are getting stronger. We know we are making

:07:28. > :07:32.fewer mistakes and ultimately, the Volvo race is about who makes the

:07:33. > :07:38.fewest mistakes. Hopefully, we will eliminate all our mistakes now and

:07:39. > :07:42.we will be fine for the race. If you're feeling tired or fatigued,

:07:43. > :07:49.your fellow team-mate can say, come on, let's get this done and it helps

:07:50. > :07:56.spur you on. It is always worth. You never more than a metre away from

:07:57. > :08:00.anyone else. I suppose, we have a big goal and that is what drives

:08:01. > :08:05.you. All of those little things, you've just got to make sure that

:08:06. > :08:09.they don't take over. Whether someone has left a wet sock in your

:08:10. > :08:21.bank or not is not as important. You've got to try and manage that.

:08:22. > :08:26.-- in your bunk bed. If we can get people excited about women being in

:08:27. > :08:34.this race and we prove a point, we will prove our goal.

:08:35. > :08:41.Go, girls! There has been a treat for Ronnie O'Sullivan fans in

:08:42. > :08:44.Sheffield this morning. Just when it looked like the defending champion

:08:45. > :08:53.might be knocked out in the second round, the rocket came back from

:08:54. > :08:56.9-7, to beat Joe Perry 13-11 and make it into the quarterfinals. The

:08:57. > :09:00.rest of the actions on BBC Two from one o'clock. Ronnie knows the

:09:01. > :09:06.Crucible better than most. He has won a world championship that five

:09:07. > :09:15.times but what is it really like? We took a peek behind the scenes.

:09:16. > :09:22.We are backstage at a very crammed, historic Crucible Theatre. The

:09:23. > :09:28.players wait, locked in their own thoughts, to be introduced. There

:09:29. > :09:32.are some famous names, real legends of the game is here. They wait for

:09:33. > :09:36.that introduction and these are the really nervous moments. Then they

:09:37. > :09:40.will be introduced down his dark corridors, through the famous

:09:41. > :09:45.curtain. This is the moment when the adrenaline gets pumping. Finally,

:09:46. > :09:50.you see the crowd. 980 people. You are writing to the Crucible Theatre.

:09:51. > :09:53.Two tables, one for the final few days, semifinal and final. This is

:09:54. > :09:57.the view you have. You are sitting in the crowd basically, right next

:09:58. > :10:01.to the table. You can watch your opponent go about his business. This

:10:02. > :10:09.is as good as it gets for any snooker.

:10:10. > :10:15.George just loves the snooker. Saracens are a game away from the

:10:16. > :10:21.final of European rugby union 's most prestigious trophy. They take

:10:22. > :10:25.on Claremont this afternoon. Saracens know it is time to deliver.

:10:26. > :10:30.They lost at the same point last year, one of three semifinal defeats

:10:31. > :10:33.last season. The important thing is that you get into the semifinals,

:10:34. > :10:38.you present yourself at the business end of the season. I would much

:10:39. > :10:41.rather be criticised for losing the odd semifinal, rather than not being

:10:42. > :10:45.there at all. Consistently, we are getting there. Not just in the

:10:46. > :10:53.domestic edition, but Europe as well. We will win one of them.

:10:54. > :10:57.The union isn't getting all the limelight this weekend because rugby

:10:58. > :11:02.league's challenge cup is into its fifth round. The standout fixture is

:11:03. > :11:06.live this afternoon as Leeds rhinos take on Saint Helens. Mark Chapman

:11:07. > :11:10.is getting ready to host what should be a cracking game.

:11:11. > :11:16.We are very excited about this game this afternoon. We are delighted to

:11:17. > :11:20.say that the head coach of Leeds Rhinos is with us. It should be a

:11:21. > :11:23.cracker, shouldn't it? We've been looking forward to this one since we

:11:24. > :11:27.were drawn out of the bag a few weeks ago. Both teams are in good

:11:28. > :11:39.form. Saints have found a little bit of a blip recently. When we made the

:11:40. > :11:43.draw, they were flying and unbeaten. The cliches are that the form goes

:11:44. > :11:47.out the window but it is true. It is true. They have lost a couple of

:11:48. > :11:51.games and that was over the space of three days. I think the first eight

:11:52. > :11:56.games that they have one will have more of a bearing. Your super league

:11:57. > :12:00.game earlier on in the season was a cracker and it went down to the

:12:01. > :12:03.final play of the game. We are expecting a game between two of the

:12:04. > :12:08.best lines in super league, aren't we? Yes, and that is what is

:12:09. > :12:14.mouthwatering about it. Personally, and for our players, we know that

:12:15. > :12:17.this is a challenge cup and it is do or die. At the same time, we are

:12:18. > :12:22.fans of rugby league as well. As soon as we got drawn out of the bag,

:12:23. > :12:26.we had a smile and we thought, they are flying and we are a strong team.

:12:27. > :12:30.It should make for a big game. These are the games you want to be

:12:31. > :12:34.involved in. If you're going to win the challenge cup, if you're going

:12:35. > :12:39.to get to Wembley, you got to meet big sides on the way. Rarely do you

:12:40. > :12:46.get the final without meeting a big team. At some stage, you're going to

:12:47. > :12:53.have to beat them. We are going to meet Saints along the way or even a

:12:54. > :13:00.final. We are looking forward to it. It will be a big game. It would be a

:13:01. > :13:03.big crowd. Briefly, what does it mean? You get to Wembley, to the

:13:04. > :13:12.final, it's been awhile since you've it. People keep saying that. I tried

:13:13. > :13:15.not to. If you have alluded to the fact we have a negative history with

:13:16. > :13:24.a cup, he got to get the final first. The fact that we have failed

:13:25. > :13:28.at the final hurdle recently, I don't think such a big thing. We are

:13:29. > :13:33.aiming to get there. We don't fear the cup. We know it can be hard if

:13:34. > :13:37.you don't win it but we are looking forward to it. Thank you for joining

:13:38. > :13:39.us. I really appreciated. We can get you to tell us who is going to win

:13:40. > :13:58.this. One score in the Premier league to

:13:59. > :14:02.give you. Southampton are leading Everton 1-0. That's it from us.
