:00:39. > :00:44.The Scottish Curling Women's Championship is celebrating its 40th

:00:45. > :00:49.anniversary. It all began back in 1977, when Margaret Paterson and her

:00:50. > :00:53.team-mates picked up this trophy for the very first time. Who will join

:00:54. > :01:00.the role of honour this year? Welcome to the 2017 addition at

:01:01. > :01:05.Dewars Centre in Perth. The name of Eve Muirhead appears on

:01:06. > :01:09.the trophy more than anyone else. Since 2009 she has dominated this

:01:10. > :01:14.competition, winning it six times in the last eight years. Could anyone

:01:15. > :01:21.stop her charge towards the Magnificent Seven Scottish titles?

:01:22. > :01:24.This year's competition kicked off a week ago. Seven teams entered and

:01:25. > :01:36.after they had all played each other, the table looked like this.

:01:37. > :01:41.Hannah Fleming needed a tie-break to decide who would progress to the

:01:42. > :01:46.knockout stages. They won that tie-break much to go through to the

:01:47. > :01:53.semifinal as the third qualifier. There, they faced Team Smith, who

:01:54. > :02:00.had earlier lost six against Team at Muirhead, which meant Eve Muirhead

:02:01. > :02:06.advance straight to the final. The match turned in the six end when

:02:07. > :02:11.Team Fleming, already five riven three ahead, stole three, to give

:02:12. > :02:15.them an unassailable lead. They went on to ease to a comfortable 9-6

:02:16. > :02:19.victory. So Hannah Fleming through to her

:02:20. > :02:23.fifth Scottish final and a repeat of the 20 15th competition, when she

:02:24. > :02:29.lost out narrowly to Eve Muirhead. -- 2015.

:02:30. > :02:35.A new addition to Muirhead's rink from the league -- from the team who

:02:36. > :02:39.won last year. Lauren Gray. This was the same team that had won bronze in

:02:40. > :02:45.the European Championships in Glasgow last November. We do have a

:02:46. > :02:50.massive target on our back and everyone wants to beat us out here,

:02:51. > :02:53.and it makes it tough. When we got that Olympic bronze medal we work to

:02:54. > :02:58.super, super hard for that and we have the European Championships this

:02:59. > :03:03.year, so that is good as well. We have a fantastic coach and staff

:03:04. > :03:07.behind us. We brought in Glen as our tactical coach and we have a

:03:08. > :03:10.fantastic team of coaches, so if we can put all our hard work together

:03:11. > :03:17.and take it forward to this last game.

:03:18. > :03:23.Fleming's team had two new faces after the team that lost two years

:03:24. > :03:29.ago. Alison Spence has been on Hannah Fleming's team for seven

:03:30. > :03:33.years. Evers was going to be a tough

:03:34. > :03:37.opponent to play in any game but it's a final so it's whoever plays

:03:38. > :03:41.well in the game and it doesn't mean if you had a good week you can

:03:42. > :03:46.continue. If we put in a good performance we know we can push it

:03:47. > :03:53.to the line. -- Eve Muirhead was always going to be.

:03:54. > :03:56.Whoever wins earns the right to represent Scotland in the women's

:03:57. > :04:02.Championships in Beijing in less than a month. This could also have a

:04:03. > :04:05.big bearing on the selection for team GB.

:04:06. > :04:09.Before we get to the action, a quick reminder of the format.

:04:10. > :04:13.There are ten ends and points are accumulated over the course of the

:04:14. > :04:21.match for the stone is closest to the T at each end. If there are no

:04:22. > :04:29.stones in the house, the end is blanked and no points are awarded.

:04:30. > :04:33.That is exactly what happened in end four, as Muirhead cleared the house

:04:34. > :04:35.with her last stone to ensure she kept the hammer going into the next

:04:36. > :04:46.end. We joined the match in the fifth end

:04:47. > :04:47.with the scores level, one piece. Your commentators are Bob Kelly and

:04:48. > :05:00.Jackie Lockhart. Yeah, Lauren Gray with her first

:05:01. > :05:16.stone now, number five. Muirhead with the last one. Not much scoring

:05:17. > :05:23.so far. Just the two scoring ends. That's not helping get things going.

:05:24. > :05:27.A completely different strategy as well. We saw Hannah Fleming with the

:05:28. > :05:35.end going down here and she asked her team to draw one to the corner,

:05:36. > :05:43.so she was being really aggressive. Yes.

:05:44. > :05:55.OK, good line now. A chance now for Fleming to get one round. No

:05:56. > :06:03.Yellowstone is in play so she glides in front. A nice shape. All Muirhead

:06:04. > :06:11.can do is try to play a freeze up to that one. That's a great start for

:06:12. > :06:21.Team Fleming there. They really are playing very well at this moment. So

:06:22. > :06:28.Lauren will have to follow with an intern draw and come up onto the

:06:29. > :06:35.base of that layer. They are going to have to work this really hard.

:06:36. > :06:40.Not sure it's got the weight. A high line as well, Jackie. It is amazing

:06:41. > :06:47.the curling it does at the last minute. Look at that movement. Just

:06:48. > :06:52.slightly short on weight. She was heavy with her first one, of course,

:06:53. > :07:03.and maybe just pulled it back a little too much.

:07:04. > :07:15.So now I think we're looking for an intern draw here. Probably a guard.

:07:16. > :07:24.Doesn't want it to be too heavy. Half check... If she could get it on

:07:25. > :07:33.the inside it would be nice. And we can see them taking that huge curl

:07:34. > :07:44.their at the end. She needs it to stop there. Muirhead quite entitled

:07:45. > :07:51.to remove these from play now. That last stone, not too happy with that

:07:52. > :07:56.stuff. I think just peeling that read in the middle there? -- that

:07:57. > :08:10.red. Yeah, just pick that one out of

:08:11. > :08:21.there. Releases the yellow again, so it could be used to drive back onto

:08:22. > :08:27.the Redstone. -- red stone. Hannah Fleming is almost giving the ice out

:08:28. > :08:34.to the edge of the circles. A good five feet, five and a half feet now.

:08:35. > :08:40.A lot of swing. Not sure she got quite out to the stick on that one,

:08:41. > :08:46.though. Asking Jennifer to transfer a bit harder to hold it straighter.

:08:47. > :08:52.If it's going to over curl, it's better to leave it high. As they

:08:53. > :08:59.have done. APPLAUSE

:09:00. > :09:02.Works a bit as a guard but I would have thought Muirhead will leave

:09:03. > :09:09.that situation there with the short one played and working with the

:09:10. > :09:13.reds. Just to see if she can make the double here. Then effectively

:09:14. > :09:20.the yellow has a bit of cover on it. Working down the centre line so

:09:21. > :09:34.Fleming probably OK with that. See if Adams can make this double. Not

:09:35. > :09:42.quite. It's OK. She's put a little corner guard on there as well.

:09:43. > :09:45.Possibly looking at plan B. I don't think Muirhead will be too worried

:09:46. > :09:59.about the way this end's building up. She has got a yellow with some

:10:00. > :10:08.cover on it and Fleming just guarding a single stone on there at

:10:09. > :10:16.the moment. A guard attempt from Dodds. Yeah, always a tricky one. Do

:10:17. > :10:19.you keep your guard is high or try to bring them close to the house?

:10:20. > :10:24.Because if you try to bring them to close and they come in, it gives

:10:25. > :10:29.Muirhead to hit another one out of the wings. And all these other

:10:30. > :10:35.shots. And if you leave them to hide, as you said, you can have the

:10:36. > :10:45.swing on the ice. -- if you leave them too high. She can see a little

:10:46. > :10:53.piece of the red, Sloan. Just a quiet weight. We'll probably see

:10:54. > :10:58.more than a right-handed player on the sheet and we do know if you play

:10:59. > :11:11.the right weight here it will take a lovely curl. She could steal the

:11:12. > :11:17.house for two. A lovely shot. Almost a similar shot we saw her play two

:11:18. > :11:23.ends ago, where she made the mistake would be guard, but no mistake

:11:24. > :11:29.there. That makes the hit and roll from Fleming much more difficult, a

:11:30. > :11:34.bigger distance for her to hit this one now and rolling behind those

:11:35. > :11:45.centre red stones. A very, very nice shot. So, Jennifer Dodds' second.

:11:46. > :11:54.This is looking a little high at the moment. She really needed to stay

:11:55. > :12:04.high and connect to the house. Really committed with all this stuff

:12:05. > :12:09.in the front coming in. Probably not the place she wants to go, but as

:12:10. > :12:12.you say, because the two red guards are our there, she has to get to the

:12:13. > :12:26.fore foot before Hannah Fleming does. -- out there. She might draw

:12:27. > :12:30.it outside the centre line. She has played this end to get centre guards

:12:31. > :12:38.and she would have to come in behind. Certainly not taking that

:12:39. > :12:53.chance. Doesn't want it to deep of course. Top of the T line. Pretty

:12:54. > :12:59.good. Well played, well called and well swept by the team there. If

:13:00. > :13:04.anything is maybe a foot further than you want. If Fleming freezes

:13:05. > :13:15.that one it doesn't leave an awful lot of room for Muirhead. A good

:13:16. > :13:21.situation at the moment. Right in the middle of the red, in the middle

:13:22. > :13:26.of the 12 foot Circle. So we are talking five feet of curl there. So

:13:27. > :13:32.ideally Hannah Fleming would really like to be sitting right on top of

:13:33. > :13:36.the yellow stone Hannah has just played. But whatever she does, she

:13:37. > :13:44.doesn't want to overthrow it, that's for sure. Try to play a bit of a tap

:13:45. > :13:49.on it? I would be suggesting, this looks like it would be overthrowing,

:13:50. > :13:54.even anywhere hide, if it is sat on the 12 foot or 8-foot, that would

:13:55. > :14:04.still be making it very difficult ease. -- anywhere high. -- very

:14:05. > :14:09.difficult for Eve Muirhead. She has a great opportunity here. She will

:14:10. > :14:20.see all of that red and get a little role in behind. -- roll in behind.

:14:21. > :14:26.Yes, if she could get it to roll over to the left and line up to the

:14:27. > :14:38.yellows. So, great chance now for Muirhead. Three stones to come. What

:14:39. > :14:46.can she do with this one? She should make the take out without any

:14:47. > :15:00.problem. Not a lot of weight on this one. She under thrown it. Try to be

:15:01. > :15:06.a bit cute there, maybe. Paid the penalty. Wow, a big chance going

:15:07. > :15:11.begging there. I think that was just down to weight. Didn't give it

:15:12. > :15:17.enough weight. The first thing that -- first was to make the takeout. A

:15:18. > :15:23.big sigh of relief from Fleming. A big let off for her. She was staring

:15:24. > :15:29.at losing two, maybe three at that end. She could really put the

:15:30. > :15:35.pressure on Muirhead and even take the steel, try to come writing onto

:15:36. > :15:40.that yellow stone in the bottom. Just move it a couple of inches and

:15:41. > :15:46.get the shot, it would then be very hard for Muirhead to move. But takes

:15:47. > :15:49.a lot of precision to do that. Yes, she has to be careful that she

:15:50. > :15:54.doesn't overthrow this again because she wants to come across and be on

:15:55. > :16:00.top of the yellow stone not on top of the red.

:16:01. > :16:13.So can she take advantage of that uncharacteristic miss from Muirhead?

:16:14. > :16:21.Not doing it, you know. This would still be an opportunity... Wow, just

:16:22. > :16:28.a little heavy, wasn't it? Yes. Not what she wanted at all. Still with

:16:29. > :16:37.the opportunity to get three reds here. There was a huge swing, as we

:16:38. > :16:45.talked about. Just that yard heavy. Just doesn't take the curl, and

:16:46. > :16:51.that's what happened there. You just have to get off nose on the

:16:52. > :16:59.left-hand side of that shot there. To catch the back red, roll a little

:17:00. > :17:03.and take a three here. It's certainly on, isn't it? You've got

:17:04. > :17:20.to watch not to jam ready to read, though. -- red-to-red. She was going

:17:21. > :17:32.to take the intern there but is going for the outturn. A little on

:17:33. > :17:38.the centre line side. A huge chance now. Only had two shots and scored

:17:39. > :17:44.in the match so far. Two single-point spot the chance for a

:17:45. > :17:51.multiple score now for Muirhead. If she can get the accuracy. Chance to

:17:52. > :17:59.make amends here. Trying to hold it. Get the back one. It does, you know.

:18:00. > :18:06.Two, three. Great shot from Muirhead. A couple of loose ones

:18:07. > :18:11.from Hannah Fleming and a loose one back from Muirhead herself, but

:18:12. > :18:20.makes the last one and nails the big three. That was a great shot. I

:18:21. > :18:28.thought she hadn't laid enough weight on that. What a great way to

:18:29. > :18:36.go into the fifth end break. A three for Muirhead. This is the school

:18:37. > :18:41.after five ends. The crowd here loving the quality of

:18:42. > :18:43.this match, but let's take a break from the action and get to know the

:18:44. > :18:56.two skips better. My name is Eve Muirhead. I'm the

:18:57. > :19:02.skip so I stand in the target and call the shots in the end. I've

:19:03. > :19:07.played against Hannah lots and lots of times. It goes back to juniors.

:19:08. > :19:12.We are really good friends as well. Both teams are very close and when

:19:13. > :19:16.it comes to playing, both teams want to beat each other as each other.

:19:17. > :19:21.Over the years we've come up against her. Each year we are getting closer

:19:22. > :19:26.to beating her. She's a tough opponent! Hopefully this year will

:19:27. > :19:31.be one of those years. So far this week everything's been going great.

:19:32. > :19:35.100% record up to the final and we hope we can keep it that way. The

:19:36. > :19:45.ice conditions have been fantastic, girls are playing really well,

:19:46. > :19:49.coaches behind us. We have a new team this season. Two girls have

:19:50. > :19:52.joined me and Alice so it's been a brilliant season so far. We've

:19:53. > :19:57.managed to jump up the world rankings into the top 32, which was

:19:58. > :20:03.our goal this season. Hopefully this week we can end the season on a

:20:04. > :20:07.high. I can't believe it's been three years since Sochi! I've had

:20:08. > :20:11.things on Facebook pinging up saying it's three years since we won that

:20:12. > :20:14.bronze medal. Time flies and since then I've been thinking about

:20:15. > :20:24.getting better and better and going back there. Back to the final now.

:20:25. > :20:31.When we left it, Muirhead was leading for micro-1. Fleming needs

:20:32. > :20:36.this shot but could only manage a single to give the last stone back

:20:37. > :20:42.to Muirhead. We pick it up again in the seventh end.

:20:43. > :20:58.So, Lauren Gray out to second. It is over the front one, I think. Now, if

:20:59. > :21:03.that red hit the barrier, which I'm sure it's going to, Freegard zone

:21:04. > :21:16.will be in operation when it has to go back and be replaced. We've seen

:21:17. > :21:24.a few of the girls being caught out with this outturn throw. Heading

:21:25. > :21:32.down this way of the ice. Yes, a few mistakes there. And they've all been

:21:33. > :21:38.pretty much over curling. So, good start, then, for Fleming in this

:21:39. > :21:50.end. Can she build on it? Alice Spence. Good space between the two

:21:51. > :21:55.reds, so we need Alice to clear a nice stone. A bit heavy at the

:21:56. > :22:06.minute. The girls are not sweeping yet. An important shot, this one. If

:22:07. > :22:12.she got one right round onto the burden, it would be double guarded.

:22:13. > :22:18.That's not what the doctor ordered. A slack shot, really. Can't make too

:22:19. > :22:28.many excuses for that at this stage of the game. Frustrating for the

:22:29. > :22:37.skip, too. Anywhere short... Yes. She will know that herself. She will

:22:38. > :22:43.indeed. This gives the opportunity for Team Muirhead to start peeling.

:22:44. > :22:48.And Hannah has to get on that long guard again. Hannah is gambling with

:22:49. > :22:53.a Muirhead line shot here but she can't keep doing that. At some stage

:22:54. > :22:59.she has to come into the rings, get rid of that Muirhead stone. Can't

:23:00. > :23:11.afford to leave it lying there. So a rough opportunity to build an end

:23:12. > :23:15.here has probably gone. But you can still see the peels. The girls are

:23:16. > :23:22.very good at them. Removing the short stones. Near the centre line

:23:23. > :23:29.but quite close together. They might try to get rid of both of these.

:23:30. > :23:33.They were trying hard to sweep that onto the centre line and keep them

:23:34. > :23:40.parallel with one another. That makes the doubles harder to take. I

:23:41. > :23:48.think she was just taking one, actually. The one with Adams. I

:23:49. > :23:54.think she's just going for the single peel. Probably decided she

:23:55. > :24:00.doesn't have to do anything too difficult at the minute. There's no

:24:01. > :24:04.point trying to play the big shot when you don't really need it and if

:24:05. > :24:09.you do make a mistake it will count against you, so... Not sure where

:24:10. > :24:16.that could have gone wrong other than getting a bit thin and driving

:24:17. > :24:32.onto the yellow perhaps. That's why we are sitting up here. Exactly!

:24:33. > :24:40.Another guard called. Cover on the shot in-house and also trying to get

:24:41. > :24:49.something on the centre line. That's over curled a bit. Shot in the house

:24:50. > :24:59.is visible. Should see a good two thirds of it. You can see... Yes.

:25:00. > :25:08.Has to be careful as well. Doesn't want to overthrow this and catch it

:25:09. > :25:13.and drive it onto the other side. The safe side is the inside and the

:25:14. > :25:21.new peel it anyway. So does want to be on the wide side. In fact, I

:25:22. > :25:27.think they will take the guard. Not taking any chances. Now looking for

:25:28. > :25:31.the double peel. Lots of opportunities of different chances

:25:32. > :25:46.here. Going for it this time, anyway. Has been asked to take the

:25:47. > :26:07.double peel if she can. Just missed that.

:26:08. > :26:15.Well, Jennifer Dodds has a chance to put on a better one. Last one was a

:26:16. > :26:20.bit off-line. Still enough to force Muirhead to wait appeal but she

:26:21. > :26:31.would like this one a bit of a better guard. Looks higher but they

:26:32. > :26:36.will have to sweep it to get it to the centre and as they are sweeping

:26:37. > :26:44.is getting closer and closer... Now what will Muirhead do? She can

:26:45. > :26:47.certainly hit the red in the rings and she could live two shots after

:26:48. > :26:50.this, which would mean leaving the short one in the centre, though. Try

:26:51. > :27:14.the double curl. OK, she's going to try to get rid of

:27:15. > :27:20.both these reds. Three quarters, left-hand side, drive it onto the

:27:21. > :27:27.right-hand side of back one. A bit of extra weight on this. Maximum

:27:28. > :27:43.action on the stones when they meet. A single peel, is it? Yeah. She

:27:44. > :27:54.managed to hold it. Well, now Fleming... Just another look. She's

:27:55. > :28:00.just deciding what she wants to do and what ice she's going to take.

:28:01. > :28:04.Can't afford to throw another guard now. Gives Muirhead too good a

:28:05. > :28:13.chance of making the two, which she can't afford. Will be hoping, of

:28:14. > :28:19.course, they get a chance on the last one to come around the short

:28:20. > :28:23.red stone in the centre line. May not get that chance, but if anything

:28:24. > :28:34.else, she wants to force Muirhead to take one.

:28:35. > :28:43.Keeping them separated prevents Eve from having the opportunity of a

:28:44. > :28:51.double. They are going to have to work this one. Looks like it is

:28:52. > :29:00.curling a lot. They held that well. Pretty good, actually. Got it right

:29:01. > :29:09.in behind. One lucky. Good shot from Fleming. Now a decision, does Eve

:29:10. > :29:18.try to go for the shot, fully in the house, or try to run back on the

:29:19. > :29:24.centre one? You go to the one in. You can lie assured that way and

:29:25. > :29:40.Fleming has got to remove it. -- you can lie short.

:29:41. > :29:50.They are playing a down weight, not a full strike. Should have the

:29:51. > :30:04.chance for the sweepers to control the stone going down the ice. Seems

:30:05. > :30:10.to curl. That's the live for short, which it is not going to do. That is

:30:11. > :30:16.a mistake. Here is the chance I mentioned that Hannah Fleming was

:30:17. > :30:21.relishing, the chance to get a draw right round the top of the button.

:30:22. > :30:29.Potential stealing situation here for Fleming, if she can now this

:30:30. > :30:33.one. I'll and we do know that when you come across the line, you take a

:30:34. > :30:39.huge pool, so she has got to make sure she gets right out to the brush

:30:40. > :30:45.and gives it every opportunity to come past the guard and let the

:30:46. > :30:51.girls sweep it in behind. A mistake from Muirhead, though, if she can

:30:52. > :30:55.lie short at all, Fleming will try to lie two, not presenting any great

:30:56. > :31:00.problem to Muirhead, but maybe now the chance to turn the screws a

:31:01. > :31:06.little bit. These are the shots that Hannah is really going to have two

:31:07. > :31:13.nail, to put the pressure on to Muirhead. A little bit slack, but

:31:14. > :31:29.she has turned it round in these last few ends. Looking good. The

:31:30. > :31:40.line looks great. Wants it to stop. Just a little bit heavy, Jackie.

:31:41. > :31:46.Really unfortunate, there. Huge pool coming across. If it had just

:31:47. > :31:55.stopped there, but a couple of feet it ran on and then you just see it

:31:56. > :32:00.peeking out the other side. Muirhead can now play a straight draw to it,

:32:01. > :32:04.still not easy but easier than having to play a little tap to get

:32:05. > :32:09.shot. The danger on what she goes for, we can see her here, taking the

:32:10. > :32:15.choice, she's going to play the run back. I thought she would play the

:32:16. > :32:18.draw. If she didn't make the draw properly and caught the top guard

:32:19. > :32:25.she would be pushing it in for second shot. Would be sure to be in

:32:26. > :32:30.the rings if she could make it? Could make the first one slightly on

:32:31. > :32:33.the left and the one of the right-hand side of the back, she

:32:34. > :32:36.would get a little role that way. I thought she would take on the draw.

:32:37. > :32:48.It's not that hard. She's going after this. Can only think it is a

:32:49. > :32:54.short draw, if she can nail it. She's going after it. Has she done

:32:55. > :33:00.it? She has just jammed at the back one. There is the steal. She had a

:33:01. > :33:07.go at it. A bold call. The draw looked like the shot, to me, but

:33:08. > :33:17.many just didn't read that contact, there. It is a big steal of one for

:33:18. > :33:23.Fleming. Seven ends in and it is Muirhead four, Fleming, three. We'll

:33:24. > :33:25.be back for the climax of the Scottish women's curling

:33:26. > :33:29.Championships in a few minutes. If you walk into any rink anywhere on

:33:30. > :33:39.the ward, one of the major factors to deal with any work in this sport

:33:40. > :33:45.is the surface of the ice. The ice is a really big factor and we are

:33:46. > :33:49.lucky emperor to have good conditions brought the team is

:33:50. > :33:55.playing the Scottish Championships. The ice man, he's up propping up

:33:56. > :34:01.really early at half past five every morning, this week. Lots of people

:34:02. > :34:05.think it is just a sheet of playing nice with four stones going up and

:34:06. > :34:14.down but there's a lot of signs behind it. Playing nice is different

:34:15. > :34:19.from skating and ice. It is harder. They have pebbles in the eyes, and

:34:20. > :34:25.they walk up and down with a watering can and create small bumps

:34:26. > :34:29.on the ice. That affects how much the Stones travel on the ice. I'm

:34:30. > :34:34.how much they curl. Curling ice needs to be different to skating

:34:35. > :34:40.ice. It means to be perfectly level. If the stone was travelling on

:34:41. > :34:43.skating ice it would only travel a couple of metres and it without so

:34:44. > :34:48.much friction it would not be able to go that far. It melts the top of

:34:49. > :34:54.the table, the sweeping, so that can keep the stone travelling slightly

:34:55. > :34:58.straighter. It is called the roaring game because of the noise that the

:34:59. > :35:08.stone makes when it is travelling on the ice. Let's return now to the

:35:09. > :35:21.closing stages of the final. Team Muirhead leads 4-3 in the eighth

:35:22. > :35:25.end. 63%, not that good at the minute, but she desperately needs an

:35:26. > :35:34.nice draw, here. To sit right on top of the yellow. She will have to bump

:35:35. > :35:42.it. She will need to make sure that she is using it as protection.

:35:43. > :35:47.Pretty good shot. Three guards on, so it is clean-up time for Muirhead,

:35:48. > :35:59.straight out front, as she is. Vicki Adams to make the peel. If you are

:36:00. > :36:08.put -- playing 77% at the moment, 80% on drawers. She is very strong

:36:09. > :36:12.in that apartment, Vicki. Great second player, the strength of the

:36:13. > :36:17.second players to clean up. You want someone lots of power and accuracy

:36:18. > :36:21.to get rid of those annoying stones out front. She is a bit of an expert

:36:22. > :36:29.on most. These players come into their own and the last few ends when

:36:30. > :36:38.they are asked to play the shots. -- these shots. They just want to see

:36:39. > :36:44.Team Fleming piling in the Reds, here. She has got to get stones and

:36:45. > :36:57.play to get something set up for another stone. -- in play. Just the

:36:58. > :37:07.guard again. And just a simple peel again. This could be dangerous.

:37:08. > :37:11.Could leave a short one. This will just be a simple peel shot. She will

:37:12. > :37:22.try to drive this back into the already play. It was a single peel

:37:23. > :37:46.but nearly got something else. That was a nice try. Four stones in

:37:47. > :37:53.play all round about the four foot, covering the one foot. Again, asking

:37:54. > :38:01.for another centre guard, Anna Sloan. Wonder how were long this can

:38:02. > :38:06.go on for? The stones in the house lying pretty well for Fleming. She's

:38:07. > :38:14.got to be careful and switch her attention from the straight peels.

:38:15. > :38:20.This is coming a bit deeper. And the chance, now, to rumble things

:38:21. > :38:23.around. Certainly is. That has come up to close, so it makes the job

:38:24. > :38:29.easier trying to get that read on the left and the yellowing behind

:38:30. > :38:44.them enter the Reds. Anna Sloan getting her weight behind this one.

:38:45. > :38:52.Nice shot. That will clean things up a lot, made things a lot better from

:38:53. > :38:55.a Muirhead point of view. Just slightly overthrown the guard from

:38:56. > :39:02.Jennifer Dodds made this a lot more simple. Muirhead with two in the

:39:03. > :39:07.rings. Anna is playing very well here. She missed the first part of

:39:08. > :39:12.the season after having a fall in the summertime last year and having

:39:13. > :39:17.to get a cruciate ligament operation in her niece. It's really nice to

:39:18. > :39:29.see her settle back in and playing the shots that we know she can play.

:39:30. > :39:35.Absolutely. Fleming would love to throw a guard here but she can't

:39:36. > :39:41.afford to throw with your head with two stones in the house. She mustn't

:39:42. > :39:47.risk losing two here. Jennifer Dodds, playing 79% at the moment.

:39:48. > :39:53.Trying to play the run back, here. Two reds in the house, and she does.

:39:54. > :39:57.All was going to be quite close together. Looks good from Muirhead's

:39:58. > :40:35.point of view. 69% for Anna Sloan. Drawers, 71. Get

:40:36. > :40:39.a good double, here, if she can. And she has just about got it. How far

:40:40. > :40:53.is that going to go? It is still a short position. That was a break for

:40:54. > :41:02.Fleming. That was unfortunate. She could have left a simple double for

:41:03. > :41:08.Fleming to take away, but this is a great opportunity to check the

:41:09. > :41:19.yellow out there on the left, and you need the peels to come second.

:41:20. > :41:27.Yes, she needs the inside role. She must lie two after this. Needs to

:41:28. > :41:36.get the inside of this yellow to get a little role in towards the centre.

:41:37. > :41:46.Is it going to swing enough? Didn't quite do it. She had to get inside

:41:47. > :41:50.that yellow at the top centre. She played a nice weight to allow it but

:41:51. > :42:01.she overthrew it and didn't give it a chance to come in, so the momentum

:42:02. > :42:05.swings back to Team Muirhead. If Eve can remove this and lie two she can

:42:06. > :42:10.certainly put the pressure on. She can try to force the nine and go

:42:11. > :42:14.down the ten with the hammer. A score of two would be big and would

:42:15. > :42:25.negate that steel that she gave up in the last end. Playing a down

:42:26. > :42:37.weight here. Just looking for the nose.

:42:38. > :42:43.Well, it rolled. If it rolled another few centimetres it wasn't

:42:44. > :42:51.going to be in second shot position, but they just managed to hold it. So

:42:52. > :42:58.Muirhead does lie two. Well called by Anna. Eve was wanting them to

:42:59. > :43:02.clean that stone but she could see that it was drawing all the time.

:43:03. > :43:09.That does look like it is two yellows for Team Muirhead. That's

:43:10. > :43:14.going to be a freeze for Fleming, the one that Muirhead just played.

:43:15. > :43:22.Looking at the double, that is a tough double to take. Does she think

:43:23. > :43:27.it was a double and being able to hold the shooter off the back of the

:43:28. > :43:32.other red, trying to lie two? It is a tough double. You would

:43:33. > :43:42.definitely, I think, lose one of your reds. Draws at 56, that is why

:43:43. > :43:49.she doesn't fancy the draw. I think it should be a draw, but maybe just

:43:50. > :43:54.not the confidence to do it. She could completely kill this end if

:43:55. > :44:00.she played a lovely draw and sat on the T-line. Quite a big angle to

:44:01. > :44:06.make here from one yellow onto the other. Not easy. Very difficult to

:44:07. > :44:13.judge. Quite a long way away from that one, really. I didn't like the

:44:14. > :44:21.call. And there is the result. An open hit from Muirhead. Well, big,

:44:22. > :44:27.big shot now from Muirhead. The score, 4-3. That's the read that's

:44:28. > :44:33.got to go, if she can replace that one and score two she will be three

:44:34. > :44:48.shots up with just two ends remaining, so this is big.

:44:49. > :45:06.So, hit for two. It is always nice to hear, "Clean" and "Easy",

:45:07. > :45:12.absolutely no mistakes there. Classy shot. And a nice score of two from

:45:13. > :45:19.either. She stamps her authority on this game again. Eight ends in and

:45:20. > :45:24.it is Muirhead six, Fleming three. Muirhead continued to pile on the

:45:25. > :45:26.pressure in the ninth end, and as we rejoin play, she is taking on a high

:45:27. > :45:45.tariff double takeout. Well, I don't think I called that

:45:46. > :45:51.one. She makes in, fantastic shot. It's relentless, really. What a

:45:52. > :45:59.great end played by Team Muirhead. They've not put a foot wrong. She

:46:00. > :46:07.has left her corner, and I think you would have to go and use it again.

:46:08. > :46:12.Yes. The problem is now, she uses the corner, she is leaving your

:46:13. > :46:16.headline short, and inevitably she can't get short by lying in the

:46:17. > :46:22.corner, but inevitably, she can call a time-out. -- she is leaving your

:46:23. > :46:41.head lying short. Nancy Smith just appearing.

:46:42. > :46:45.Gathering her thoughts. She will have been thinking about it on the

:46:46. > :47:00.way down, seeing what she will recommend to the team.

:47:01. > :47:07.There are several different strategies you can play here. What

:47:08. > :47:14.you want to try and do is make it most difficult for the opposition to

:47:15. > :47:20.play. There's not many of these shots that Eve Muirhead can't play.

:47:21. > :47:26.So, what have the team decided? Again, this is another big call for

:47:27. > :47:32.Hannah Fleming, and not a lot of margin for error. The other thing

:47:33. > :47:37.she could have done is play for the blank N. But that would mean only

:47:38. > :47:41.one end remaining and she would have to make three just forced the extra.

:47:42. > :47:47.I think she's right to have a go at this. She's moving the line here she

:47:48. > :47:53.should try to stop it and come on the top of it. Try to work the

:47:54. > :48:01.bounce. Actually, that's not a bad shot. It should still be a simple

:48:02. > :48:06.shot for leave to remove both of these. The line was good, it was

:48:07. > :48:16.just a weight issue. Just under through it a little bit. So no

:48:17. > :48:20.opportunity for Muirhead to lie two. She will be trying the nose hit or

:48:21. > :48:28.half of that read, to try to make sure the red disappears. And all

:48:29. > :48:35.that Fleming will be able to do is come away with a score of one, or a

:48:36. > :48:39.blank. So, some straightforward stuff from Muirhead, here, and once

:48:40. > :48:51.again, and our Fleming just not able to produce the Serb -- the perfect

:48:52. > :48:56.shot. Everything goes, in fact. Does Hannah Fleming think she's more

:48:57. > :49:08.chance of stealing and two or scoring a three?

:49:09. > :49:16.I think she's probably going to take her one, here. Early in the first

:49:17. > :49:21.couple of ends you saw Hannah Fleming with opportunities where she

:49:22. > :49:26.was lying a lot and Eve had to finish it off, but asking her to

:49:27. > :49:33.take a three against Team Muirhead at this stage in the game, it's a

:49:34. > :49:40.big ask. Neither is going to be easy in the last end, to take the three

:49:41. > :49:45.or steal a two. Jee think she's going to take one and reduce the

:49:46. > :49:54.deficit to two, but give up the last stone in doing so? -- do you think.

:49:55. > :49:58.She's playing the draw. The slight advantage of that is that at least

:49:59. > :50:03.you get to throw first at the next end and you can pull the corner

:50:04. > :50:09.guard stones down the centre line and have a few stones in play before

:50:10. > :50:13.the stealing stars. So, nicely done. Takes a single point. Couldn't do

:50:14. > :50:21.any more than that. Would have liked to have done so, but had to be held

:50:22. > :50:32.to a single. That meant Fleming went into the last end, trailing 4-6.

:50:33. > :50:45.So difficult for Fleming to build up anything threatening here, when the

:50:46. > :50:49.centre line is clear. And those two tick shots from Lauren Gray making

:50:50. > :50:53.sure that that was the case. Unfortunately she's not trying to

:50:54. > :51:02.steal just one, she's trying to steal two. It doesn't just make it

:51:03. > :51:05.twice as difficult. But she has got some stones in play and at some

:51:06. > :51:11.stage she will have to use those. She would rather be drawing round

:51:12. > :51:15.stones on the centre line, but in the absence of those, she'll have to

:51:16. > :51:20.make use of something that is there, and that is the corner guards, try

:51:21. > :51:28.to make a couple with the last one, try to play Pershore. This is

:51:29. > :51:32.Jennifer Dodds' first stone. Three to come for Fleming after that one.

:51:33. > :51:40.Both teams playing the shots that they have do. But each time the

:51:41. > :51:50.opposition counteracts what is required by the opposition. For

:51:51. > :51:57.every shot that Team Fleming play, Team Muirhead are just removing.

:51:58. > :52:05.Playing 100% at the moment in this last end. Yes, faultless play. And

:52:06. > :52:09.now we will see Fleming have to do something a little bit different.

:52:10. > :52:18.Three stones to come, she's got to count two of them so she has to get

:52:19. > :52:26.these into the rings. Still a change of tactics here. She is going to

:52:27. > :52:30.come down into the house. We know that there is a lovely draw on,

:52:31. > :52:42.around this corner. Comes off the centre line, over the hauf line.

:52:43. > :52:51.Nicely played from Jennifer Dodds. That looks well in behind, I think.

:52:52. > :53:03.Perhaps just a little bit of it showing. Not a lot, but Anna Sloan

:53:04. > :53:06.board try to pick this one out, the one in the rings, but failing that

:53:07. > :53:11.making sure that she gets the guards and opens it up. And she has picked

:53:12. > :53:18.it out. Great stuff, Jackie, you have to say. These girls have got

:53:19. > :53:21.confidence now in this last end, here. I think they can see the

:53:22. > :53:37.finishing line. Slightly tighter ice now for Hannah

:53:38. > :53:38.Fleming. Same shot, though. Let's see if she can make a better job of

:53:39. > :53:52.it. Fleming steadied herself. First two

:53:53. > :54:17.this end. She must get this. If this catches the guard, is going

:54:18. > :54:21.to be all over. She had to get that one in hand means to steal two. I

:54:22. > :54:28.think it is going to be game over. It is indeed. Hands are being

:54:29. > :54:36.offered. And this appointment for Hannah Fleming once more. Another

:54:37. > :54:40.bridesmaid situation. And Eve Muirhead and her team march on.

:54:41. > :54:46.Another Scottish Championship title. They will go on to represent

:54:47. > :54:50.Scotland in the women's World Championships in Beijing next month.

:54:51. > :54:53.And you have to say, richly deserve. A couple of mistakes early on, but a

:54:54. > :55:00.pretty professional performance altogether. Congratulations,

:55:01. > :55:06.Scottish champions. That feels pretty good, right? That's my first

:55:07. > :55:10.Scottish Championship and it was a great team performance and I am

:55:11. > :55:13.delighted. It certainly was a great team performance. Vicky, you have

:55:14. > :55:18.been here a few times and greater pick up the title again. Yes, it's

:55:19. > :55:23.great to pick up another title. It feels the same as every other one,

:55:24. > :55:28.such a delight, it doesn't get any easier, of course, but it feels

:55:29. > :55:32.great. And Anna, you were out of the cruciate ligament injury. But good

:55:33. > :55:37.to be back at the Scottish and doing incredibly well. The feeling never

:55:38. > :55:41.gets old, the nerves never get less. I am really glad to be back here. It

:55:42. > :55:46.was looking a bit worrying at times. Especially for me, but I am so glad

:55:47. > :55:52.to be back and this team performance was really good. It is amazing, Eve,

:55:53. > :55:57.he beat everyone on the way to the final but you had to get over the

:55:58. > :56:00.final hurdle, as well. And that was tough, but it was the fifth end that

:56:01. > :56:06.gave you the advantage and then you took it and won it once again. Yes,

:56:07. > :56:10.Hannah always provides tough opposition and you have two beta

:56:11. > :56:12.three Campsa get to the European Championships, so it never gets

:56:13. > :56:17.easy. You've got to play really well to win those games. We managed to

:56:18. > :56:21.get a three on the fifth end and that gave us a little bit of a jump,

:56:22. > :56:26.we managed to play well and solid from then on. The Beijing now. It is

:56:27. > :56:33.bizarre. It has come around so quickly. We just take each

:56:34. > :56:37.competition one at a time and the Scottish, for us, was a high

:56:38. > :56:42.priority event. With the Olympics, hopefully, next year. For us, this

:56:43. > :56:45.was a big tournament to win. That victory has put us one step on the

:56:46. > :56:51.plane. Fantastic performance from all of you. For the seventh time,

:56:52. > :56:57.Team Muirhead, Scottish champions, well done!

:56:58. > :57:00.APPLAUSE That fifth end getting a three was

:57:01. > :57:04.the turning point of the game. We were still pleased with the

:57:05. > :57:09.performance. We were pushing them closer every year. So, hopefully,

:57:10. > :57:13.once I we will get. The fact that they are professionals and on the

:57:14. > :57:16.ice every day, and you guys have got the kind of juggle things a little

:57:17. > :57:22.bit, that must make it tougher for you. Definitely. It is harder for us

:57:23. > :57:27.to fit in time around work commitments. But hats off to Eve and

:57:28. > :57:31.her team. They consistently perform. And they just showed in that final

:57:32. > :57:36.that they are just that step above. CHEERING

:57:37. > :57:41.Another successful defence of the title for Eve Muirhead's rink. Their

:57:42. > :57:44.Canadian coach Glenn Howard helping them celebrate another triumph,

:57:45. > :57:50.which makes it an incredible seven wins out of the last nine

:57:51. > :57:54.Championships. Before we go, just time to bring you news from the

:57:55. > :58:00.junior championships that have been taking place in South Korea. It was

:58:01. > :58:08.a silver medal for Sophie Jackson's Scotland team, together with lead

:58:09. > :58:12.Sophie Sinclair they demolished Canada in the semifinal but they
