0:00:30 > 0:00:31Come on!

0:00:37 > 0:00:41Hello and welcome to the 2011 MSA Scottish Rally Championships.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44We're at the halfway stage, our foot's flat to the floor,

0:00:44 > 0:00:48we're in top gear, and it's been super-fuelled action all the way.

0:00:48 > 0:00:52So, can two-time defending champion David Bogie make it three in a row?

0:00:52 > 0:00:56Or will the likes of Mike Faulkner, Jock Armstrong and David Wilson spoil the party?

0:00:56 > 0:00:59And what about the chances of Robbie Head

0:00:59 > 0:01:03making a welcome return to rallying after an absence of six years?

0:01:03 > 0:01:09Only one way to find out. Let's take you back to the first event, the Arnold Clark Snowman Rally.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13Timeline, February. Location, Inverness.

0:01:13 > 0:01:17As ever for the first event of the season, the crowds were out

0:01:17 > 0:01:20in force, and this year's contest was more significant than usual.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23The Snowman had been the home event of

0:01:23 > 0:01:25twice Scottish Rally champion Jimmy Girvan,

0:01:25 > 0:01:29who was killed while competing in last year's McRae Forest stages.

0:01:29 > 0:01:3320-odd years rallying, won the Scottish championship twice,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36and it's just quite a poignant moment.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40Jimmy's wasn't the only touching story at this year's Snowman.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Ken Wood, another former Scottish champion, lost his son Douglas to

0:01:43 > 0:01:47cancer last year, and was paying tribute in his Dolomite Sprint.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51My idea was that I would build it for him for the 2011 championship,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54but before he went, he told us

0:01:54 > 0:01:56I had to finish it, and I had to go rallying in it,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59I had to paint it red, and I had to paint gold wheels on it.

0:01:59 > 0:02:00So that's it - we're ready to go.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03All the usual suspects were in the frame -

0:02:03 > 0:02:07title holder David Bogie and close rival Jock Armstrong would be right up there.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10It's nice to be starting the year as the reigning champion, so...

0:02:10 > 0:02:13There's a good line-up today and it's going to be tough.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17You've got the whole year to win a rally, but

0:02:17 > 0:02:19you want to win this first one for sure, and it'll set you up.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22My expectations? I want to be there, I want to win it.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26I've just rolled into the car park now. Everybody's saying "You're late" -

0:02:26 > 0:02:30I'm not late. Two minutes... I want to keep the momentum going today.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34And there was real anticipation about the

0:02:34 > 0:02:38reappearance of Robbie Head, who'd last competed in the Snowman in 1987.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40I think it's a shot of adrenaline.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Rallying's a sport that's in your blood, and I think when that

0:02:43 > 0:02:47"five, four, three, two, one" goes, there's nothing to beat it.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Three...two...one - go!

0:02:59 > 0:03:03Remember, drivers get 30 points for a victory, 28 for second,

0:03:03 > 0:03:0627 for third, 26 for fourth, and so on,

0:03:06 > 0:03:10right down to one point for finishing in 29th spot.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16In Strathrory, track-rusty Robbie Head and Claire Mole produced a very

0:03:16 > 0:03:21creditable run in fifth place - just 24 seconds off the pace.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26And Calum McKenzie, who's moved up from

0:03:26 > 0:03:30his two-wheel drive Mark II Escort to a four-wheel drive EVO VIII

0:03:30 > 0:03:33must have been happy with his performance in the unfamiliar car,

0:03:33 > 0:03:36registering eighth on stage one.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40I'm used to getting organised for the corner long before the corner.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Now you've got to go a lot deeper into the corner before you turn,

0:03:43 > 0:03:46and put a bit of faith in the four wheel drive.

0:03:47 > 0:03:52Euan Thorburn was another title contender, after having a go at the British Championship last year.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55Driving an EVO IX, the youngster from Duns recorded

0:03:55 > 0:04:00a time of 11 minutes and 35 seconds, good enough for third place overall.

0:04:02 > 0:04:06Ahead of Thorburn by just two seconds, Jock Armstrong, with

0:04:06 > 0:04:11Kirsty Riddick on the notes, was pushing hard in his Subaru Impreza.

0:04:14 > 0:04:18But, out in front, just as he had been in most of last year's

0:04:18 > 0:04:23championship, it was David Bogie and co-driver Kevin Rae in their EVO IX,

0:04:23 > 0:04:28covering the stage in 11.28.05 clear of the field.

0:04:31 > 0:04:35There was drama on one, as Nigel Feeney and navigator Ian Angell

0:04:35 > 0:04:39were first to reach the EVO IX of Stuart Walker and Caroline Will.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42It had caught fire near the stage finish.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45Car's on fire, whoa, car's on fire!

0:04:47 > 0:04:49He's on fire!

0:04:52 > 0:04:55The safety crews put out the fire and no-one was hurt,

0:04:55 > 0:04:59but the event was delayed for about half an hour.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09It's a long left, tight - keep in...

0:05:13 > 0:05:17Grip throughout the Snowman was inconsistent -

0:05:17 > 0:05:21drivers found themselves confronted by snow, ice, mud and gravel.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23Choice of tread was the main problem,

0:05:23 > 0:05:25and Armstrong dropped seven seconds

0:05:25 > 0:05:29by taking off the mud tyres for stage two.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36After a poor first test, Lockerbie's Mike Faulkner and Peter Foy

0:05:36 > 0:05:38were third fastest in Carbisdale,

0:05:38 > 0:05:40which moved them up a place in the standings.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Bogie appeared to take his foot off the gas.

0:05:47 > 0:05:51But Thorburn put his foot down and recorded the fastest time

0:05:51 > 0:05:55to move into second place overall, six seconds behind Bogie.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11Donnie Macdonald, from Inverness, was consolidating his position in

0:06:11 > 0:06:14the top ten, with the sixth fastest time through Dalnessie

0:06:14 > 0:06:16in his EVO IX.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20Local driver Andy Horne was climbing steadily up the field,

0:06:20 > 0:06:26his instantly recognisable Metro 6R4-based DAM giving spectators a real thrill.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30But Thorburn was again quickest around Dalnessie,

0:06:30 > 0:06:32with Bogie six seconds behind.

0:06:32 > 0:06:36The two were now locked dead level at the top of the leaderboard.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22Although Head and Mole were going backwards

0:07:22 > 0:07:24and lay in seventh place after Dalchork,

0:07:24 > 0:07:27there were still reasons to be cheerful for Robbie.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30It was going really well, but then we had a puncture on stage three

0:07:30 > 0:07:34so dropped a fair chunk of time about halfway through.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37And then stage four, the rear brake pipe wore through

0:07:37 > 0:07:40and we'd no rear brakes for about five miles,

0:07:40 > 0:07:43so we dropped a heck of a lot of time - over a minute in that stage.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46So we've battled our way down to seventh or something.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48We'll have a good one in the last one!

0:07:50 > 0:07:55Mike Faulkner was much happier with his performances in stages two to four.

0:07:55 > 0:08:00Horrendous first stage - we had a spin on the first chicane and that just did our confidence.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03It was really patchy ice, and trying to pick the grit

0:08:03 > 0:08:07was really difficult, and we just couldn't get the confidence.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10So not pleased with the time on stage one, but we've managed

0:08:10 > 0:08:12some good time since then and up to fourth.

0:08:13 > 0:08:17Despite some tyre problems, Jock Armstrong hadn't been out of the top three all day -

0:08:17 > 0:08:21although his position after stage four did come as a bit of a revelation.

0:08:21 > 0:08:22Quite surprised to be in third -

0:08:22 > 0:08:25things just haven't went the way I wanted them to go.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31The stages have actually been very muddy,

0:08:31 > 0:08:34not as good as I thought - and gravelly as well.

0:08:35 > 0:08:36Not as good as I wanted to be,

0:08:36 > 0:08:39but hey, there's one stage left.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44Armstrong would have to go some to catch Bogie and Thorburn.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47The pair had been duelling back and forth, but on Dalchork

0:08:47 > 0:08:49it was Bogie who re-asserted control,

0:08:49 > 0:08:53taking 12 seconds out of his rival in just eight miles.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56We had a massive jump on the second stage there so

0:08:56 > 0:09:02possibly the downpipe could be squashed perhaps. The car does feel a little bit down on power.

0:09:02 > 0:09:04But other than that, very, very good.

0:09:04 > 0:09:07Good run on three, but we were running second on the road

0:09:07 > 0:09:09on the fourth stage.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11The start of the stage was fine and then it became

0:09:11 > 0:09:13slippy a bit, so we lost,

0:09:13 > 0:09:16I think, most of the time through that slippy part.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19I don't know if it was better for the guys running further back.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22But it is what it is, and there's 12 seconds between us.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25A puncture or a spin or anything in the last stages

0:09:25 > 0:09:27and it could all change, so still time to go yet.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41Going into the final test, just over a minute separated

0:09:41 > 0:09:45Donnie Macdonald in sixth from tenth-placed Stevie Brown.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47So it was game on for the minor placings.

0:09:49 > 0:09:54Robbie Head rolled back the years, coming on strong in the final test,

0:09:54 > 0:09:58recording third quickest time - his best performance in the event.

0:09:58 > 0:10:00There's so much information you have to log in.

0:10:00 > 0:10:04You're not only looking at the road surface and driving 130 mph,

0:10:04 > 0:10:05you're listening to the pacenotes,

0:10:05 > 0:10:10and it took a bit longer than I expected to get back into that.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15Everything was new. The whole package was new,

0:10:15 > 0:10:19and it's got better all the time, all day, so...next time.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22- Next time it'll be better. - That old rally story - next time!

0:10:22 > 0:10:24Closer to the top of the leaderboard,

0:10:24 > 0:10:28all Jock Armstrong had to do was consolidate.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37Third would guarantee him a podium finish

0:10:37 > 0:10:38in the first rally of the year.

0:10:38 > 0:10:42He was second fastest through Morangie, and did just that.

0:10:42 > 0:10:45- OK...- Well done.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49That's sick, that.

0:10:49 > 0:10:51That's sicker than ice and snow, Kirsty.

0:10:52 > 0:10:56'Well done to David and Euan, the two young whippersnappers coming up'

0:10:56 > 0:10:57so I'm the old man at the rear.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59Never mind. At least I'm on the podium.

0:10:59 > 0:11:03Euan Thorburn's day didn't end as he'd have wished...

0:11:03 > 0:11:07He finished ten seconds adrift of Armstrong in the stage,

0:11:07 > 0:11:10but it did confirm him in second overall.

0:11:10 > 0:11:13The day belonged to David Bogie and Kevin Rae, who increased their lead

0:11:13 > 0:11:16over Thorburn with their third fastest stage time of the day

0:11:16 > 0:11:19which ensured a first Snowman victory for Bogie.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22When we lost six seconds, I thought, time to up the game here.

0:11:22 > 0:11:23Maybe just getting a wee bit lazy.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27But we upped it for the last two stages, and it obviously came good.

0:11:29 > 0:11:33Ken Wood and son Gordon put up a great showing in their

0:11:33 > 0:11:37Dolomite Sprint, competing in the memory of Ken's other son Douglas.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40After peaking at 33rd at the end of stage three,

0:11:40 > 0:11:43the family duo just failed to make it to the finish line.

0:11:43 > 0:11:48But it was a notable effort to start their championship campaign.

0:11:49 > 0:11:53So after one round of the MSA Scottish Rally Championship

0:11:53 > 0:11:55the leaderboard looks like this.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58In fifth on 25 points, it's Andy Horne.

0:11:59 > 0:12:04Mike Faulkner is lying fourth on 26 points.

0:12:04 > 0:12:07Jock Armstrong is third with 27.

0:12:09 > 0:12:13In second, it's Euan Thorburn on 28.

0:12:14 > 0:12:18But, with an early lead, it's last year's champion David Bogie

0:12:18 > 0:12:20with 30 points.

0:12:22 > 0:12:27One of the great things about these SRC events is that you get to do some car-spotting.

0:12:27 > 0:12:32There are some really impressive bits of kit around, just like this one.

0:12:32 > 0:12:36One of the most striking, though, is a 1965 Ford Anglia owned by Euan Mackay, from Brora.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46We're building up for this event.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49First time on the gravel rear wheel drive, so

0:12:49 > 0:12:50just have to see how it goes.

0:12:50 > 0:12:52We've done a bit of testing, but just going to have to

0:12:52 > 0:12:54play it by ear, kind of thing.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57Pretty reliable... So it's a Vauxhall engine,

0:12:57 > 0:13:00producing about 230 horsepower. Rear wheel drive,

0:13:00 > 0:13:04so it's going to be a lot of power in a wee car. See how it goes.

0:13:20 > 0:13:24The tenth anniversary running of the Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally

0:13:24 > 0:13:28in the forests around Jedburgh was blessed with blue skies.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33There was a new look to the event.

0:13:33 > 0:13:36Drivers and crews faced only four stages -

0:13:36 > 0:13:40but at over 17 miles, stage two Broomylinn was an absolute beast,

0:13:40 > 0:13:43which would separate the wannabes from the winners.

0:13:43 > 0:13:47The long stage allows you to get a bit more of a rhythm, and you have to...

0:13:47 > 0:13:49maybe have a little bit more focus on making sure

0:13:49 > 0:13:52your concentration stays up and the effort stays up.

0:13:52 > 0:13:55That's about the only difference - it's just going to have to be 100%.

0:13:55 > 0:14:02Reay Mackay had a hard act to follow, as he drove a famous Subaru Impreza back into the limelight.

0:14:02 > 0:14:07It belonged to world rally champion Richard Burns, who died from cancer in 2005.

0:14:07 > 0:14:11I don't think I'll drive it like it was driven before. The handling's superb.

0:14:11 > 0:14:15It's much more stable at high speed, and just the cornering as well

0:14:15 > 0:14:17so still getting used to it.

0:14:17 > 0:14:21I think there'll be another few rallies before we get up to speed.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24The Border Counties was the only rally in the Scottish championship

0:14:24 > 0:14:28calendar to have evaded defending champion David Bogie.

0:14:28 > 0:14:32And with a superb entry list, it was going to be tough for the Dumfries ace.

0:14:32 > 0:14:35It's going to be a hard-chasing pack at the front certainly, so

0:14:35 > 0:14:38leading them away, I'm just looking forward to it.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40I've got new suspension in the car for today,

0:14:40 > 0:14:42which might some getting used to.

0:14:55 > 0:14:59Irish Group N regular Phillip Morrow hired an Escort Mark II

0:14:59 > 0:15:03after his EVO IX developed engine problems before the event.

0:15:03 > 0:15:07Even his skills couldn't stop Alness's David Wilson and co-driver

0:15:07 > 0:15:11Dave Robson from almost catching him right at the end of the opening test.

0:15:11 > 0:15:16Their time of seven minutes and 19 seconds left them seven seconds down

0:15:16 > 0:15:19on Jock Armstrong and navigator Kirsty Riddick.

0:15:19 > 0:15:24But they were soon out of the event with a broken gear stick - their second successive retirement.

0:15:27 > 0:15:32Euan Thorburn and Paul Beaton finished stage one just six seconds off the pace in third spot.

0:15:34 > 0:15:38With a charging Mike Faulkner and Peter Foy in second position.

0:15:49 > 0:15:54However, the lure of winning his first Border Counties was a big incentive for Bogie,

0:15:54 > 0:15:59as he finished Wauchope five seconds ahead of Faulkner in a time of 7.01.

0:16:12 > 0:16:16All the crews were agreed the rally would be won or lost in Broomylinn.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19It was narrow with lots of loose gravel,

0:16:19 > 0:16:21so it certainly favoured the brave.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27Inverness driver Andy Horne and navigator Jim Howie

0:16:27 > 0:16:29hadn't had the best of times in Wauchope,

0:16:29 > 0:16:31but they were flying through stage two

0:16:31 > 0:16:34and pushed themselves up into fifth position.

0:16:34 > 0:16:38We were trying to go a bit hard and it didn't work for us, so

0:16:38 > 0:16:42with the long stage we tried just to take it consistently

0:16:42 > 0:16:45and it seems to have paid off, we've come out with a fair time.

0:16:47 > 0:16:54Wayne Sisson, from Carnforth, was also making a move in Broomylinn, taking fourth place overall.

0:16:54 > 0:16:57We took time out of Andy on the long one, so...

0:16:57 > 0:17:02the pace is fine I think, we'll just hopefully step it up a wee bit

0:17:02 > 0:17:05once I've got more mileage under my belt again.

0:17:08 > 0:17:12Thorburn and Beaton were disappointed to be only fourth fastest over the 17 miles,

0:17:12 > 0:17:15and had to be content with maintaining their third place.

0:17:15 > 0:17:19There's a line through it, and as soon as you get off the line onto the loose stuff

0:17:19 > 0:17:21it obviously sends you sideways,

0:17:21 > 0:17:24and it's just not the way I usually drive it.

0:17:24 > 0:17:27I usually try and carry as much speed as I can, but you just can't

0:17:27 > 0:17:31do it here, and we were losing out to the more powerful cars a bit.

0:17:31 > 0:17:33Overall it never flowed really well,

0:17:33 > 0:17:35so we'll try and get some back on the next two.

0:17:35 > 0:17:38I don't think they're quite as loose, so hopefully it'll be in our favour.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42It was left to Faulkner and Foy to mount the only

0:17:42 > 0:17:44serious challenge to the leaders,

0:17:44 > 0:17:47as they dropped just 11 seconds to stay in a strong second position.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53With a few new faces in his service crew, everyone wanted to

0:17:53 > 0:17:57make sure nothing was left to chance in the final two tests.

0:17:57 > 0:18:00But it would be an uphill struggle to catch the defending Scottish champions.

0:18:15 > 0:18:21Once again it was David Bogie who led the way, setting a benchmark time.

0:18:21 > 0:18:27By the end of the test he was leading the field by 16 seconds, and looked unstoppable.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42There was some movement in the field after Redesdale.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45Cumbrian duo Paul Benn and Richard Cooke floored it

0:18:45 > 0:18:47with the third fastest stage time,

0:18:47 > 0:18:49elevating themselves into sixth overall.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52The rally has painful memories for Mr Benn.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55The last time we did the Borders was in '07,

0:18:55 > 0:18:57and we had quite a bad accident,

0:18:57 > 0:19:00so that's the only downside to us.

0:19:00 > 0:19:02We love the event,

0:19:02 > 0:19:06but obviously we've a little bit of thinking in our heads that

0:19:06 > 0:19:09we need to be careful at the same time.

0:19:09 > 0:19:10Bogie and Rae again recorded

0:19:10 > 0:19:14the quickest time by far through stage three,

0:19:14 > 0:19:16covering the 13 miles

0:19:16 > 0:19:18in 13 minutes and 19 seconds.

0:19:20 > 0:19:24So the fight was really about the also-rans.

0:19:26 > 0:19:29Robbie Head, with Claire Mole navigating,

0:19:29 > 0:19:33was justifying his decision to get back into competitive rallying.

0:19:33 > 0:19:35They were lying fifth in their EVO IX.

0:19:35 > 0:19:42Thorburn and Beaton had another poor run in three, only clocking the sixth fastest stage time,

0:19:42 > 0:19:45but holding on to third position in the event.

0:19:46 > 0:19:50Faulkner and Foy were the only realistic challengers to Bogie.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52But they were 31 seconds adrift -

0:19:52 > 0:19:55and although they were absolutely flying in Redesdale,

0:19:55 > 0:19:58they'd need something to happen to the Dumfries driver

0:19:58 > 0:20:01on the shortest stage of all to have any chance of a win.

0:20:41 > 0:20:45Hyndlee proved to be the tightest test of the day.

0:20:45 > 0:20:47Head and Mole tied with Benn and Cooke

0:20:47 > 0:20:49in the fourth fastest time for the stage -

0:20:49 > 0:20:51six minutes and five seconds.

0:20:54 > 0:20:57Despite slipping further behind with a stage time of 6.09,

0:20:57 > 0:21:01Thorburn and Beaton did enough to confirm a third place finish.

0:21:01 > 0:21:04Yeah, third's better than what I expected.

0:21:04 > 0:21:07Pretty bad day today, just never got into a rhythm.

0:21:07 > 0:21:09Just didn't seem to work all day today.

0:21:09 > 0:21:15Faulkner and Foy came third in the stage, but held onto second spot overall.

0:21:15 > 0:21:18It was Bogie and Rae who again looked down on the rest of the field,

0:21:18 > 0:21:22coming through Hyndlees quickest in six minutes exactly,

0:21:22 > 0:21:26to book their second successive win of this year's championship.

0:21:26 > 0:21:29Border Counties is a rally I've never won before, so

0:21:29 > 0:21:31I was desperate to tick that box.

0:21:31 > 0:21:35And with having the last seven Scottish Championship wins

0:21:35 > 0:21:37that's the clean slate, the clean streak. So I'm happy.

0:21:38 > 0:21:43As ever, the Border Counties threw up a couple of surprise packages,

0:21:43 > 0:21:48the most impressive of which was Oban duo Stephen and Kevin Lockhart.

0:21:48 > 0:21:53They confounded their 36th seeding, to place ninth overall in an EVO VII.

0:21:54 > 0:21:58There was a splendid class two win for 17-year-old Greg McKnight from

0:21:58 > 0:22:02Dumfries, competing in only his second rally in a Vauxhall Nova.

0:22:04 > 0:22:08Let's look at the SRC Drivers' Championship after two events.

0:22:08 > 0:22:12In fifth, it's Robbie Head on 48 points.

0:22:13 > 0:22:16Andy Horne is fourth with 51.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21It's Mike Faulkner on 54 points in third.

0:22:22 > 0:22:26Euan Thorburn's second with 55 points.

0:22:27 > 0:22:31But in the lead, it's David Bogie with a perfect 60 points.

0:22:34 > 0:22:39What are the qualities required to be a successful rally crew?

0:22:39 > 0:22:43Well, you have to be cool under pressure, quick in all conditions and totally focused.

0:22:43 > 0:22:48Putting all that together is really difficult, but just imagine how

0:22:48 > 0:22:52tough it is when you quite literally have to take a step up in class.

0:22:55 > 0:23:00We moved up from the Nova last year up to the Mitsubishi EVO VI this year...

0:23:04 > 0:23:07It's a lot smoother, the car, to drive - it's just the amount of

0:23:07 > 0:23:11speed that you're carrying that makes it really hard to judge.

0:23:11 > 0:23:13Especially with the fast stuff.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15So it's taken a lot of getting used to.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22You're carrying that much more speed.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25It's just having the confidence that, yes, it will get round the corner fine!

0:23:31 > 0:23:35If we turn in a good result here or there, then all the better, but it's

0:23:35 > 0:23:40still early on in the season, so hopefully a bit more next year.

0:23:44 > 0:23:50The third event in the SRC calendar around Aberdeen, the CARS Recovery Granite City Rally,

0:23:50 > 0:23:56is always exciting, with fast technical stages squeezing the very best out of the crews.

0:23:56 > 0:23:59Andy Horne's enjoyed a good start to his season -

0:23:59 > 0:24:05he won this event in 2007, and he was happy with his preparations for this year.

0:24:05 > 0:24:07Everything was perfect for us behind the scenes.

0:24:07 > 0:24:11The team have to merge together now and make it all work.

0:24:11 > 0:24:13If anything goes wrong, it'll be human error today.

0:24:13 > 0:24:20In contrast, David Wilson had been the victim of mechanical failures in the first two rallies,

0:24:20 > 0:24:23and he needed an ace performance to kick-start his push for honours.

0:24:23 > 0:24:26Spent the last two weeks completely overhauling the car.

0:24:26 > 0:24:29It needed an engine rebuild, brake pipes, suspension rebuild,

0:24:29 > 0:24:30so a lot of lot of work.

0:24:30 > 0:24:34It was quite reassuring yesterday - just got here on time, the car was

0:24:34 > 0:24:38running perfect, so it's just down to the luck again.

0:24:38 > 0:24:42Current SRC leader and defending champion David Bogie's also

0:24:42 > 0:24:45trying his hand at the British Rally Championship.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47Juggling both isn't easy.

0:24:47 > 0:24:49It has put pressure on us this year.

0:24:49 > 0:24:51We have to get the car through in one piece,

0:24:51 > 0:24:53because there's very little time to sort it

0:24:53 > 0:24:55- if something- was- to go wrong.

0:24:55 > 0:24:58It's the same this weekend - I'm out again in two weeks' time

0:24:58 > 0:25:01so it doesn't leave a huge amount of time to do any repairs.

0:25:01 > 0:25:06Jock Armstrong is another driver who'd have wished for a better set of results.

0:25:06 > 0:25:10He was hoping to bounce back from his non-finish in Jedburgh with a victory in Aberdeen.

0:25:10 > 0:25:13We've got to have a win. Or be in...

0:25:13 > 0:25:17You're always in the top three, but to win it's another scenario.

0:25:17 > 0:25:19We'll see what happens here.

0:25:32 > 0:25:35With a remarkable eight SRC event wins on the spin,

0:25:35 > 0:25:39it was no surprise to see David Bogie and co-driver Kevin Rae

0:25:39 > 0:25:42leading the way on stage one in their Mitsubishi EVO IX.

0:25:42 > 0:25:47They covered the test in the fastest time of six minutes and 34 seconds.

0:25:48 > 0:25:54That was seven seconds quicker than local driver and twice Scottish champion Dave Weston, who was an

0:25:54 > 0:26:00early retirement on the Snowman and missed the Border Counties.

0:26:00 > 0:26:03Left one in, lock right seven...

0:26:03 > 0:26:07Jock Armstrong and Kirsty Riddick were third in their Subaru Impreza.

0:26:07 > 0:26:09A further four seconds behind Weston.

0:26:10 > 0:26:13Left five, 150...

0:26:15 > 0:26:18- Very good.- Like that?- Yep.

0:26:20 > 0:26:23As expected, Andy Horne, with Jim Howie on the notes,

0:26:23 > 0:26:27put up a fine performance in the first run through Fetteresso.

0:26:27 > 0:26:30Fourth overall, just a couple of seconds behind Armstrong.

0:26:31 > 0:26:36Former Renault and Honda works driver Robbie Head, with Claire Mole

0:26:36 > 0:26:40in the navigator's seat, rounded off the top five after stage one.

0:26:40 > 0:26:42Although he was tied for time with David Wilson,

0:26:42 > 0:26:46who also went around the test in six minutes and 51 seconds.

0:26:47 > 0:26:51Euan Thorburn, from Duns, and co-driver Paul Beaton, were

0:26:51 > 0:26:55going well until a freak incident took the wind out of their sails.

0:26:55 > 0:26:58First stage was OK up until about halfway through.

0:26:58 > 0:27:02There was a left-hander, it was under the trees and the branches,

0:27:02 > 0:27:03brushed the side of the car.

0:27:03 > 0:27:07There's a little switch on the outside that cuts the car out

0:27:07 > 0:27:09if there's an emergency,

0:27:09 > 0:27:12but the branches hit the switch and cut the car out completely dead.

0:27:12 > 0:27:15We had to call the spectators over to prise the button back up

0:27:15 > 0:27:18to let us go again, so we dropped 30, 40 seconds easily there.

0:27:18 > 0:27:24After that, you're on the back foot and you're never going to gain that back.

0:27:33 > 0:27:38Ten crews had already retired before the start of Glenfarquhar.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40And there were to be more casualties in this test.

0:27:40 > 0:27:46Most dramatic was an accident involving the Peugeot 205 of Jordan Black and Kirstie Marshall.

0:27:46 > 0:27:50We got it wrong at one of the corners.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53There was a car off in front of us, and when they were coming out the bank

0:27:53 > 0:27:57and we got a fright and tried to get out of their road

0:27:57 > 0:27:58and lost it and tumbled.

0:27:58 > 0:28:00Nose first down the bank and kept tumbling.

0:28:00 > 0:28:05You can see the cage has done its job though, it just shows you how safe these cars really are.

0:28:05 > 0:28:07It's remarkable that both of us got out unscathed.

0:28:07 > 0:28:12Dave Weston hadn't competed in the SRC for two-and-a-half years.

0:28:12 > 0:28:16But he was finding his feet in his home event and scorched around the stage in 10.58.

0:28:16 > 0:28:22Which relegated Bogie and Rae into second spot overall.

0:28:22 > 0:28:25They didn't cope as well with the loose surface

0:28:25 > 0:28:27and wound up 12 seconds down on Weston.

0:28:29 > 0:28:32Jock Armstrong's time of 11.16 saw him consolidate

0:28:32 > 0:28:37third position over Robbie Head, who'd moved up one place to fourth.

0:28:38 > 0:28:41And long six right open...

0:28:41 > 0:28:46And Carnforth's Wayne Sisson who was making strong forward progress

0:28:46 > 0:28:48from eighth spot into fifth.

0:28:59 > 0:29:03The top three reinforced their superiority on stage three.

0:29:03 > 0:29:11Weston again setting the fastest time of 7.06 in his 2001 Ford Focus World Rally Car.

0:29:13 > 0:29:16But, it was close with Bogie and Rae only a second behind

0:29:16 > 0:29:20in the stage and six adrift overall going into service.

0:29:26 > 0:29:32Edzell Airfield was being used for service, which unusually was one hour long.

0:29:32 > 0:29:35So plenty of time to find out your latest position...

0:29:35 > 0:29:40Compare notes about the next three stages...

0:29:40 > 0:29:41Check out the spare...

0:29:43 > 0:29:46..and carry out some running repairs.

0:29:46 > 0:29:50No problems with the car. The car's been fantastic, the tyres have been brilliant.

0:29:50 > 0:29:53It's probably been me that's inflicted the problems into the car.

0:29:53 > 0:29:55So we've put fresh fluid through,

0:29:55 > 0:29:57bled all the fluid through, so there's new fluid so...

0:29:57 > 0:30:00Confident it should be all right through the rest of the day.

0:30:00 > 0:30:02I don't think I could go much harder at the moment.

0:30:02 > 0:30:05I would imagine David's got something in reserve

0:30:05 > 0:30:08as he normally does, cos he's going really well this year.

0:30:08 > 0:30:11But, no, I'll just keep enjoying it.

0:30:12 > 0:30:16Armstrong and Riddick were 25 seconds behind Bogie,

0:30:16 > 0:30:20but Jock was hopeful of pushing his young rival to the limit.

0:30:20 > 0:30:22David is the only other one I need to beat today.

0:30:22 > 0:30:26There's a few seconds between us, but, you know, you just need to go wider,

0:30:26 > 0:30:30slide off on a corner, the pressure's there, there's plenty of pace. Quite happy today.

0:30:30 > 0:30:34The real struggle was behind the top three.

0:30:34 > 0:30:37Only six seconds separated Robbie Head in fourth.

0:30:39 > 0:30:42From Wayne Sisson in fifth.

0:30:45 > 0:30:48Mike Faulkner in sixth.

0:30:51 > 0:30:54And David Wilson in seventh position.

0:30:56 > 0:30:58There was very little in it.

0:30:58 > 0:31:01We were obviously not miles away, but I didn't think we were on 110% as normal.

0:31:01 > 0:31:04We'll try a little bit harder this afternoon,

0:31:04 > 0:31:06see if we can get up to fourth. That's our aim.

0:31:06 > 0:31:10Struggling on the loose marbles a little bit in terms of the traction.

0:31:10 > 0:31:12But certainly, it's a balance between attacking

0:31:12 > 0:31:15really hard and sliding around everywhere and loosing time

0:31:15 > 0:31:17and just trying to be aggressive as well.

0:31:55 > 0:31:59It was all change through the short fourth test -

0:31:59 > 0:32:00Blackhall, near Banchory.

0:32:00 > 0:32:06No-one could live with Bogie as he posted a seriously quick time

0:32:06 > 0:32:09of five minutes and 55 seconds.

0:32:11 > 0:32:14That was seven faster than Weston, which meant the Aberdeen driver

0:32:14 > 0:32:19slipped back into the runners-up position with two stages left, although these two drivers

0:32:19 > 0:32:22were almost a minute ahead of the rest of the field.

0:32:22 > 0:32:27Jock Armstrong's hopes of overtaking Bogie disappeared

0:32:27 > 0:32:29as a puncture ended his challenge.

0:32:29 > 0:32:32What's wrong with it?

0:32:32 > 0:32:35Open long left seven...

0:32:35 > 0:32:39It was Robbie Head who took over from Jock in third.

0:32:39 > 0:32:44And young David Wilson's third fastest stage time of 6.06

0:32:44 > 0:32:47saw him achieve his ambition of making it

0:32:47 > 0:32:50into fourth position in the rally overall.

0:32:52 > 0:32:57With Mike Faulkner in fifth, only four seconds separated the three drivers

0:32:57 > 0:33:02and the Granite City was shaping up to be one of the closest fought rallies of recent years.

0:33:12 > 0:33:18It could hardly have been closer between the top two drivers in stage five.

0:33:18 > 0:33:22Weston completing Durris two seconds faster than Bogie,

0:33:22 > 0:33:27who now found himself in P2 - a single second behind Weston.

0:33:28 > 0:33:31It was neck and neck in the struggle for third.

0:33:31 > 0:33:34Mike Faulkner had leapfrogged Wilson and Head.

0:33:34 > 0:33:38So it was all to play for going into Fetteresso for the second time.

0:33:47 > 0:33:49Over the shortest test of the day,

0:33:49 > 0:33:52there was never going to be much between Weston and Bogie.

0:33:52 > 0:33:59They posted identical times of four minutes and 43 seconds - a winning return for Weston.

0:33:59 > 0:34:03It was tight all day, I mean we were only two seconds out of David.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05Being honest, that's an ex-2001 world rally car,

0:34:05 > 0:34:08so it should be beaten at a virtual standard bend car.

0:34:08 > 0:34:11He's a fantastic driver and had a fantastic season.

0:34:11 > 0:34:15To beat the current leader in British championship. I'm fair chuffed with myself.

0:34:15 > 0:34:18We knew coming out the last stage it was going to be very, very close,

0:34:18 > 0:34:20so just to get pipped by a second was frustrating.

0:34:20 > 0:34:23It would maybe have been easier if we had lost by 10 or 15.

0:34:23 > 0:34:27The contest for third was as tight as you could get.

0:34:27 > 0:34:29Faulkner and Wilson tied on the same time,

0:34:29 > 0:34:32but the Alness youngster clinched the final podium position

0:34:32 > 0:34:35under tiebreak rules thanks to a quicker time through the first stage.

0:34:35 > 0:34:39Oh, brilliant. So delighted, I never thought we would be here.

0:34:39 > 0:34:42Thought maybe fourth, but never third. It's brilliant.

0:34:45 > 0:34:47A bit gutted really, but...

0:34:47 > 0:34:50Still, live to fight another day.

0:34:50 > 0:34:55The most disappointed man on the day was Jock Armstrong.

0:34:55 > 0:34:59His puncture on four damaging his title aspirations.

0:34:59 > 0:35:04Disaster today. Front puncture at the five or six mile stage,

0:35:04 > 0:35:06maybe within the first mile.

0:35:06 > 0:35:09Just went down and needed to decide whether to stop and change it

0:35:09 > 0:35:13or just roll to the end, so we just trundled to the end.

0:35:13 > 0:35:15Disappointed to say the least.

0:35:15 > 0:35:17That's life, isn't it? That's rallying.

0:35:22 > 0:35:25In other classes, Alasdair Graham, with Kenny McGuire on the notes,

0:35:25 > 0:35:29took top honours in the 1600 category in his Vauxhall Corsa.

0:35:31 > 0:35:35And Iain Haining, from Dumfries, with Mairi Riddick navigating,

0:35:35 > 0:35:39recorded their third straight victory in class three in a Vauxhall Nova.

0:35:41 > 0:35:46After three rounds of the SRC, Donnie MacDonald finds himself

0:35:46 > 0:35:51in fifth position thanks to top ten finishes in the first two events.

0:35:51 > 0:35:56Robbie Head's nine points in front of MacDonald in fourth.

0:35:56 > 0:36:00In third, it's Euan Thorburn on 79 points.

0:36:00 > 0:36:03Mike Faulkner's second with 80.

0:36:05 > 0:36:10But still leading, it's David Bogie on 88 points.

0:36:13 > 0:36:18Louise Sutherland is one of the SRC's best-known navigators.

0:36:18 > 0:36:21She's a self-confessed rally nut, she's often

0:36:21 > 0:36:24seen tearing around the events in Steve Bannister's Mark II Escort.

0:36:24 > 0:36:30Steve didn't compete in Aberdeen, so Louise just had to find another seat.

0:36:30 > 0:36:33Completely different driving style.

0:36:33 > 0:36:37A lot faster into corners, so braking is an awful lot later.

0:36:37 > 0:36:39Quicker away from corners as well, it just feels

0:36:39 > 0:36:42much more stable really.

0:36:46 > 0:36:50It makes a change looking out the front window. It's good.

0:36:56 > 0:36:58I would always say I'm a Mark II girl, to be honest.

0:36:58 > 0:37:01I love the rear wheel drive, I love the feeling it gives you.

0:37:01 > 0:37:06It's a real buzz sitting in a Mark II car, especially when it's driven well.

0:37:06 > 0:37:08It is great to get out in a four-wheel drive,

0:37:08 > 0:37:12but I think ultimately I will always prefer the two-wheel drive.

0:37:12 > 0:37:18Once again, the Jim Clark Reivers Rally was flagged off from the centre of Duns, its spiritual home.

0:37:18 > 0:37:26Spectators were out in numbers on the eight stages, although some were more interested than others.

0:37:26 > 0:37:30The Reivers is the only SRC event run on public roads.

0:37:30 > 0:37:37Tarmac has its critics, but many of the drivers love the challenges thrown up by the surface.

0:37:37 > 0:37:39I really like this event. I've done it once before in '97

0:37:39 > 0:37:42in a Renault and we were fortunate enough to win it,

0:37:42 > 0:37:45and that was the international part of the rally.

0:37:45 > 0:37:47I like the stages, I've a bit of knowledge of these stages,

0:37:47 > 0:37:50- so hopefully that will stand me in good stead.- I like the tarmac.

0:37:50 > 0:37:52I've had some good results on the tarmac in the past,

0:37:52 > 0:37:54but this rally has never been particularly good to me,

0:37:54 > 0:37:57so we're hoping for a good result today to put that right.

0:37:59 > 0:38:04David Bogie's leading the Scottish and British championships after three rounds.

0:38:04 > 0:38:11He'd switched from his usual EVO IX to his dad's old MG Metro 6R4 and he was in confident mood.

0:38:11 > 0:38:13Rhona caught up with him just before the start.

0:38:13 > 0:38:20David, championship going very, very well for you so far, what do you hope today from this one?

0:38:20 > 0:38:23Yeah, you're right, it's been an excellent start to the year,

0:38:23 > 0:38:27so we're coming into this rally in a different car than we normally use.

0:38:27 > 0:38:29It's a car my dad's campaigned in the past so...

0:38:29 > 0:38:32You know, we're going to go for a win.

0:38:32 > 0:38:36It will be interesting, and if it stays dry it will make the job easier for me.

0:38:36 > 0:38:40The car is 23 years old, the same age as me, so that will be a learning experience,

0:38:40 > 0:38:41but really looking forward to it.

0:38:41 > 0:38:45Euan Thorburn's going well in third place in the championship,

0:38:45 > 0:38:48and the youngster from Duns would be determined to impress in his home event.

0:38:48 > 0:38:53There are four different stages, each run twice.

0:39:02 > 0:39:07Bogie and navigator Kevin Rae set a blistering pace from the start.

0:39:09 > 0:39:14They were 12 seconds ahead of the rest of the field after the first stage.

0:39:14 > 0:39:1650. Two right.

0:39:16 > 0:39:21To put that in perspective, positions two through to ten

0:39:21 > 0:39:25were separated by only eight-and-a-half seconds.

0:39:25 > 0:39:2840. Left over crest and three minus the grid.

0:39:30 > 0:39:34Euan Thorburn and Paul Beaton were leading the chasing pack.

0:39:34 > 0:39:38Mike Faulkner and Peter Foy were in third.

0:39:39 > 0:39:46Jock Armstrong was 16 adrift of Bogie in fifth, with stand-in co-driver Barry McNulty.

0:39:47 > 0:39:52And in tenth spot, it was Robbie Head and Claire Mole.

0:39:52 > 0:39:56They were only eight-and-a-half seconds behind Thorburn in P2,

0:39:56 > 0:39:59so a tough battle was already developing for the podium.

0:40:16 > 0:40:23There was no let up from Bogie on stage two, increasing his lead over Thorburn by a further seven seconds.

0:40:23 > 0:40:28He was flying in the old 6R4, although the ride wasn't without its problems.

0:40:28 > 0:40:34I forgot how bad the car was over the bumps compared to a more modern Mitsubishi.

0:40:34 > 0:40:37So, we had a few kind of wider moments, but, no, very, very good. Happy.

0:40:37 > 0:40:42Euan Thorburn maintained his progress in second,

0:40:42 > 0:40:48but knew he'd have to up his game if he was to stand a chance against the defending SRC champion.

0:40:48 > 0:40:51We were a bit too cautious. It was OK in the open parts

0:40:51 > 0:40:55where the wind was clearing the damp off, but under the trees

0:40:55 > 0:40:56it's quite slippy and it's hard to judge

0:40:56 > 0:41:00so you're always feeling for the grip the whole time.

0:41:00 > 0:41:02We were loosing time to David,

0:41:02 > 0:41:04so hopefully it will stay dry for the next pass and we will try harder.

0:41:04 > 0:41:11Jock Armstrong had also improved, moving into fourth overall in his

0:41:11 > 0:41:14Subaru Impreza in a time of seven minutes.

0:41:15 > 0:41:20But Mike Faulkner had hit trouble and had dropped two places to fifth.

0:41:23 > 0:41:27Last stage about half way through, just cut on a dome cut and hit a rock with the front wheel.

0:41:27 > 0:41:32We don't know how the Hankook tyres stayed up because it certainly didn't deserve to.

0:41:32 > 0:41:35I turned in the next corner expecting to be on the rim, but apart from backing off for a mile

0:41:35 > 0:41:39just to make sure nothing was wrong, got a little bit of vibration in the steering,

0:41:39 > 0:41:42but didn't slow us up so we're pleased with that.

0:41:42 > 0:41:47Robbie Head was turning back the clock, moving from tenth

0:41:47 > 0:41:51to sixth and he was clearly enjoying his return to the tarmac.

0:41:51 > 0:41:53It's just all coming back.

0:41:53 > 0:41:57It floods in eventually but I'm old -

0:41:57 > 0:41:59it's been a while since I've done it, so...

0:41:59 > 0:42:02We'll get faster as the day goes on, that's the key.

0:42:02 > 0:42:04But David's flying, I mean fair play, absolutely on it.

0:42:07 > 0:42:11Remember, there are four separate stages on the Reivers, each of which is run twice.

0:42:11 > 0:42:19And it seemed no-one could catch David Bogie, whose lead over the field had grown to 36 seconds.

0:42:19 > 0:42:23Six left. Into three right minus over grid...

0:42:23 > 0:42:26Euan Thorburn was comfortable in second, but he was

0:42:26 > 0:42:31ruing a mistake on stage four which cost him valuable time.

0:42:31 > 0:42:32Four left.

0:42:32 > 0:42:35Whoa, whoa. You've got it, you've got it.

0:42:35 > 0:42:3650, crest 100.

0:42:36 > 0:42:43Jock Armstrong was putting in a typically gutsy performance and he

0:42:43 > 0:42:47was now in third, although there was a bit of a drama at service.

0:42:47 > 0:42:49The oil filter split.

0:42:49 > 0:42:52Whether the exhaust moved about and damaged it or whether it's been damaged,

0:42:52 > 0:42:54something maybe cracked it.

0:42:54 > 0:42:59Luckily it's just started to leak there. Taken the oil filter off

0:42:59 > 0:43:01and not lost a lot of oil,

0:43:01 > 0:43:02so no seizure to the engine hopefully.

0:43:02 > 0:43:07Faulkner and Foy had regrouped after their earlier tyre problem

0:43:07 > 0:43:10and they'd moved up a place to fourth.

0:43:10 > 0:43:14We're knocking on the door so that's all we can ask for to go into the afternoon.

0:43:14 > 0:43:19Robbie Head and Claire Mole were still improving in fifth.

0:43:19 > 0:43:23Andy Horne and navigator Jim Howie were making a move.

0:43:23 > 0:43:27They'd finished stage one in 11th position, and after four stages,

0:43:27 > 0:43:32they were up to sixth - only four seconds behind Head.

0:43:34 > 0:43:38David Bogie's Metro 6R4 is a real crowd pleaser.

0:43:38 > 0:43:40And the car's got history in this event.

0:43:40 > 0:43:44David's father John won the rally with it in 2002.

0:43:44 > 0:43:46I took it a run last night.

0:43:46 > 0:43:49It was the first time I've drove the car in four or five years.

0:43:49 > 0:43:51I took it a run up the road and thought to myself,

0:43:51 > 0:43:54this is quite good, but, no, I'll not be back.

0:43:54 > 0:43:58Leave it to the young ones, it's a different league from me here.

0:43:58 > 0:44:02It's a two and half litre natural aspirated engine.

0:44:02 > 0:44:06It's old technology with the engine in the rear, the car's not good on

0:44:06 > 0:44:09the bumps and the general chassis set up is not the best over bumps.

0:44:09 > 0:44:11But very rewarding to drive.

0:44:25 > 0:44:28Euan Thorburn looked safe in second.

0:44:28 > 0:44:34However, a hard charging Jock Armstrong...

0:44:36 > 0:44:38..was eating into his advantage.

0:44:39 > 0:44:45And Mike Faulkner was also challenging for a podium spot, just nine seconds behind Armstrong.

0:44:47 > 0:44:50Robbie Head wasn't out of it either.

0:44:50 > 0:44:53He was lying fifth, just one second clear of Andy Horne.

0:44:53 > 0:44:55Crest 100.

0:44:57 > 0:45:00Four right at tree...

0:45:00 > 0:45:03Dominic Buckley, with co-driver Dougie Redpath,

0:45:03 > 0:45:05had been making steady progress,

0:45:05 > 0:45:10but a close encounter with a hedge on stage five ruined their hopes.

0:45:10 > 0:45:11Steady.

0:45:15 > 0:45:21At the top of the leaderboard, there was no stopping David Bogie as he and Kevin Rae extended their lead

0:45:21 > 0:45:24on Thorburn and Beaton to just over a minute.

0:45:24 > 0:45:28Armstrong was still threatening Thorburn -

0:45:28 > 0:45:30the gap now down to 16 seconds.

0:45:34 > 0:45:37We seemed to get away in that last stage.

0:45:37 > 0:45:41Maybe the stage before, maybe we tried to push too hard as well,

0:45:41 > 0:45:45so calmed down and actually took time out of Euan Thorburn on the last stage, so that's all good.

0:45:48 > 0:45:51Faulkner was having a battle royal with Head.

0:45:53 > 0:45:56Just four seconds separated them in fourth and fifth.

0:45:59 > 0:46:03Stage seven was cancelled due to an accident.

0:46:03 > 0:46:06And the top five held their positions through the final test.

0:46:06 > 0:46:07Six left.

0:46:37 > 0:46:42So, it was a third successive win in the Jim Clark Reivers Rally

0:46:42 > 0:46:44for David Bogie to add to his triumph

0:46:44 > 0:46:49the previous day in the fourth round of the British championship, which he also leads.

0:46:49 > 0:46:51Quite a weekend for the Dumfries ace.

0:46:51 > 0:46:55Today's been crazy, you know reflecting on the whole weekend.

0:46:55 > 0:47:00To win the International and then to get the win on the Reivers it's just mental, it really is.

0:47:00 > 0:47:04To come here to achieve that, to get maximum points, it's just hard to sum up in words.

0:47:05 > 0:47:11The first two-wheel drive car home was the historic Ford Escort Mark II

0:47:11 > 0:47:13of Steve Bannister and Louise Sutherland.

0:47:13 > 0:47:15They came in tenth spot and took a class win.

0:47:17 > 0:47:23Peter Taylor, with Andrew Roughhead on the notes, also took class honours in his Renault Clio.

0:47:23 > 0:47:27Finishing 14th overall in only his third rally in the car.

0:47:28 > 0:47:34Donnie MacDonald, from Inverness, with notes-man Ian McIvor, hadn't intended taking part.

0:47:34 > 0:47:39But the carrot of keeping his top five place in the championship was too tempting.

0:47:39 > 0:47:43They finished 23rd, but still picked up valuable points.

0:47:45 > 0:47:49We're now at the halfway in the MSA Scottish Rally Championship.

0:47:49 > 0:47:53Those points mean MacDonald retains fifth position

0:47:53 > 0:47:55in the title race on 79.

0:47:55 > 0:48:00Robbie Head's still in fourth on 98 points.

0:48:00 > 0:48:05Mike Faulkner's fallen back to third on 106.

0:48:05 > 0:48:09Euan Thorburn moves into second with 107 points.

0:48:09 > 0:48:12But David Bogie looks good to keep hold of his title.

0:48:12 > 0:48:15He's leading on 118 points.

0:48:17 > 0:48:21Well, at the halfway stage, it's well done once again to David Bogie.

0:48:21 > 0:48:24Yes, he's the man quite literally still out in front.

0:48:24 > 0:48:27- From all of us in Duns at the Jim Clark Rally, see you next time.- Bye-bye.
