:00:43. > :00:48.Hello and welcome to the second half of the 2011 Scottish Rally

:00:48. > :00:54.Championship. In the title race it is Bogie in complete will control.

:00:54. > :00:59.Here to assess his chances we have a special guest. Stick? Come on,

:00:59. > :01:04.John, you didn't think we'd have the real one did you? We do have

:01:04. > :01:11.one, he is coming up later in the programme but for now, let's go

:01:11. > :01:15.back to the Scottish Rally in The RSAC Scottish Rally around

:01:15. > :01:19.Dumfries is traditionally hot and dusty, but not this year.

:01:19. > :01:23.Torrential rain during the week had carried through into the day of the

:01:23. > :01:27.event. The dust last year was a problem. Now the dust is replaced

:01:27. > :01:32.by Mud. It is one or the other. They are as bad as each other.

:01:32. > :01:37.is a home round for a number of this year's drivers. The defending

:01:37. > :01:42.champion Bogie is fighting on two friends, leading the Scottish and

:01:42. > :01:46.British Rally Championships. have won both championships and we

:01:46. > :01:51.have to ensure where they are in defeats, to ensure we have the get

:01:51. > :01:57.chances of doing so. John Carlstrom was feeling the stress. To record

:01:57. > :02:02.his first victory in his local rally. Hopefully we will win it.

:02:02. > :02:12.is 30 points for victory, 28 the second, 27th of third, 26 for a 4th,

:02:12. > :02:18.

:02:18. > :02:22.and so on, down to one point for Former SRC title challenger Stephen

:02:22. > :02:27.Clark endured an arduous three-day journey back from his job on an oil

:02:27. > :02:37.rig of China to compete in his Lancia evoke four, alongside

:02:37. > :02:58.

:02:58. > :03:04.first service. Shearwater went well adrift of Thorburn and beaten.

:03:04. > :03:08.Sisson was a further six seconds in front. But already a significant

:03:08. > :03:16.move had been made by three crews who would continue to battle it out

:03:16. > :03:22.all day. For her and that his ego six Act was in third, less than

:03:22. > :03:28.three seconds off the lead. -- Paul Neff. In the unusually slippery

:03:28. > :03:32.stages, it was Bogie and Rae setting the pace, ahead of

:03:32. > :03:36.Armstrong and Riddick. To comply with insurance, organisers set a

:03:36. > :03:40.minimum time for each stage. drivers who beat it are given the

:03:40. > :03:45.same time so Bogie and Armstrong were both locked on 13 minutes.

:03:45. > :03:49.is the rules. There are exceptions. It is maybe two or three seconds

:03:49. > :03:53.over the time but when it is 21 seconds over, it is bad

:03:53. > :03:57.organisation. It is one of these things. It was a class to drive.

:03:57. > :04:03.Hopefully it is not the story for the rest of the day. The rules had

:04:03. > :04:08.worked in Jobb -- in Jock's favour but he had worried that his first

:04:08. > :04:13.service. Our basket is hanging out of the back of the exhaust. They

:04:13. > :04:23.are tying it up, they are ripping it up well, but we have a short

:04:23. > :04:31.

:04:31. > :04:36.stage now and look at it after that. the top 11 cars, the first time

:04:36. > :04:40.through this special spectator stage. There is a saying about here.

:04:40. > :04:48.You can't win the rally in it but make a mistake and you can

:04:48. > :04:52.certainly lose it. Mike Faulkner was taking no chances as he clung

:04:52. > :05:02.on to third place, completing the testing one minute and six-tenths

:05:02. > :05:07.

:05:07. > :05:16.quicker and retained second place. Andy Thorn put down a marker as he

:05:16. > :05:26.blasted through the short stage in 59.7 seconds. But Bogie's pace

:05:26. > :05:35.

:05:35. > :05:41.counted, one-tenth of a second familiar pattern which had seen

:05:41. > :05:48.Bogie Andrei win appeared to be recruiting itself. They were six

:05:48. > :05:52.seconds upon on strike. Dashed up on on strong. Jock was doing well

:05:52. > :05:54.to keep in touch, seven seconds in front of Mike Fort Worth. This top

:05:54. > :06:04.three tussle would keep the spectators crypt for the rest of

:06:04. > :06:15.

:06:15. > :06:19.saw him in 19th position, former Renault and Honda works driver Head

:06:19. > :06:25.had hauled himself back at the order to 13th by the end of Castle

:06:25. > :06:30.or. But despite his best efforts 12th spot was the highest Head

:06:30. > :06:35.could achieve after a final stage puncture and he left the event a

:06:35. > :06:39.frustrated and disappointed man. Terrible, we were on the back foot

:06:39. > :06:43.gained big time which I'm disappointed about. I was hoping to

:06:43. > :06:48.have a good, clean stage, get off to a good start and it hasn't

:06:48. > :06:52.happened. Hoare continued to push. He came into the second service

:06:52. > :06:56.halt in fourth position in the rally -- Horn. We have had a good

:06:56. > :07:01.day, a trouble free day. We are sitting 4th because other people

:07:01. > :07:07.have had this fortune. That is the wave rallying does sometimes. We

:07:07. > :07:11.have had our own days of misfortune. We are good. Faulkner recorded the

:07:11. > :07:17.second quickest time, which kept him snapping up the heels of

:07:17. > :07:25.Armstrong. And Bogie, who had increased his lead to 15 seconds

:07:25. > :07:27.after another fine performance in stage four. But there was drama at

:07:27. > :07:33.the second stopped for the depend - - bothered defending champion. His

:07:33. > :07:36.crew had to push his Lancer Evo nine the length of the service area

:07:36. > :07:41.to reach the mechanics. I went to start the car after we popped into

:07:41. > :07:45.control and it would not start. It would not fire up after the jump-

:07:45. > :07:49.start. We will look at it now and see. The starter motor had jammed

:07:49. > :07:59.so Bogie's crew had to work flat out as the service time clock

:07:59. > :08:08.

:08:08. > :08:18.a problem because it was OK before we came into service, so it is good

:08:18. > :08:18.

:08:18. > :08:23.it is going and it will resume. This is a bogie pop -- this is

:08:23. > :08:26.Bogie's dad, John. Business as usual as his son kept up the pace

:08:26. > :08:36.the second time around he told. Bogie was picked for the quickest

:08:36. > :08:39.time of the day by Andy Horne, who went round in 59 seconds.

:08:39. > :08:45.Thorburn, who has had a Dyfed -- disappointing season so far, was

:08:45. > :08:50.well up to the challenge. Just two- tenths of a second down on Andy

:08:50. > :08:57.Horn but ahead of Bogie. Tulkarm strong dropped more time, so going

:08:57. > :09:07.into the final stage it looked like consecutive victories in the

:09:07. > :09:45.

:09:45. > :09:51.Scottish word bogie Beck Row's for out keeper Andy Horne and yuan for

:09:51. > :09:57.Bernabo. And Armstrong really had to push his car to the limit if he

:09:57. > :10:04.was to stand a chance. All Bogie had to do was keep a steady pace

:10:04. > :10:08.and the win would be his. But then disaster struck, when Bogie picked

:10:09. > :10:17.up a front puncture five miles from the finish. Would it be enough to

:10:17. > :10:20.cost him the rally? How long have we got? 2.2. Along one left.

:10:20. > :10:25.Business fortune meant that Armstrong was back in contention

:10:25. > :10:31.and it was the Castle Douglas driver who proved he had the nerve

:10:31. > :10:38.-- Bogie's misfortune. He was ten seconds quicker than Mike Faulkner.

:10:38. > :10:42.I think we have got it, mate. was dismay for Bogie. I hit a bump.

:10:42. > :10:48.When it hit a bump it left the road and hit the bank and we drove along

:10:48. > :10:53.been since -- distance with a puncture. Trying hard but the last

:10:53. > :11:01.three miles come as something was broken, so it was real... I don't

:11:01. > :11:08.know. It was a day of drama. About four miles before the end there was

:11:08. > :11:12.a massive rock and I could see it, I thought someone has put it, and

:11:12. > :11:20.we have kissed it. I hope I did not get a butcher -- puncture. It has

:11:21. > :11:30.been fantastic. It was pure joy for Armstrong, who won his first ever

:11:31. > :11:35.

:11:35. > :11:43.something like that. It is the joy of the sport. I wasn't doing

:11:43. > :11:50.anything wild. It is the way it goes. To the victor, the spoils,

:11:50. > :11:55.and much needed maximum points. leading two-wheel drive competitor

:11:55. > :12:01.was 2000 and a Scottish junior champion, McCulloch, with Wallace

:12:01. > :12:05.in her Ford Fiesta ST. The local Thornhill crew of Harkness and

:12:05. > :12:09.march back were the clear winners of Class A to, ending the day and

:12:09. > :12:19.26th overall. After one of the most dramatic finishes in year to one

:12:19. > :12:40.

:12:40. > :12:44.SRC event, the Scottish victory championship favourite despite his

:12:44. > :12:49.misfortune. What a great win for Jock Armstrong and his drivers like

:12:49. > :12:52.Jock and Bogie and Thorburn are such great role models for

:12:52. > :12:56.tomorrow's rally champions and those stars of the future get all

:12:56. > :13:06.the help they need to develop their skills from the junior 1000

:13:06. > :13:10.

:13:10. > :13:15.challenge which they can enter from It is team-building, character-

:13:15. > :13:23.building. When you get them all together, you get the camaraderie

:13:23. > :13:33.thing. It is what we have been a I have been learning to drive a

:13:33. > :13:40.rally car, farm tracks, fields, tests, anyway you can get to drive.

:13:40. > :13:45.I will be doing single venue Tarmac events, because we're not allowed

:13:45. > :13:49.in the forest in case we crashed into trees. It is not as though you

:13:49. > :13:55.are out there to do handbrake turns. You are out there to compete with

:13:55. > :13:59.other people. Everyone thinks they are good but it is down to the

:13:59. > :14:04.driver, we are in the same car. talent is out there. We have to

:14:04. > :14:07.give them the experience, allow them to develop. I would like to be

:14:07. > :14:15.high up in the Scottish championship but time will tell.

:14:15. > :14:18.will be in the top ten, hopefully. Up with the big boys. The 6th round

:14:18. > :14:24.of the Scottish Rally Championship, the Gleaner Oil and Gas Speyside

:14:24. > :14:27.Stages held extra significance this year. If defending SRC champion

:14:27. > :14:30.David Bogie could win the event he would retain the title for the

:14:30. > :14:33.third year running. That would allow him to concentrate on Kensit

:14:33. > :14:38.-- clinching the laurels in the British Rally Championship, which

:14:38. > :14:42.he was also leading. It would be great, if we could tie the

:14:42. > :14:47.championship today it would relieve the pressure. I am pretty sure we

:14:47. > :14:50.would still do the last two will is but it would mean a huge amount, I

:14:50. > :15:00.could fully concentrate on the British Championship and that is

:15:00. > :15:10.

:15:10. > :15:16.A we will try to stop them today, that is the plan today. Jukka

:15:17. > :15:22.Armstrong was confident he would do well. This rally has been good in

:15:22. > :15:32.the past, it is a fast rally. If you have a result in the last round,

:15:32. > :15:32.

:15:32. > :16:21.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 49 seconds

:16:21. > :16:25.brilliant. It has got me fired up Riddoch has set a blistering pace

:16:25. > :16:35.to lead the field by three seconds after the two stage blast around

:16:35. > :16:54.

:16:54. > :17:02.himself four seconds adrift. He and Rae went round in the quickest town,

:17:02. > :17:10.to go into second place behind the Castle Douglas pairing. He won for

:17:10. > :17:15.Byrne and Paul Deacon were third quickest in their Lancer Evo nine.

:17:15. > :17:25.And just two seconds behind it was Andy Thorn and Jim Howe week in

:17:25. > :17:27.

:17:27. > :17:32.their DA and 4,100. Head made at the top five. McKenzie with his co-

:17:32. > :17:38.driver had been a late addition to the entry list. He made a big move,

:17:38. > :17:43.climbing from 18th to tenth in the standings. With the first three

:17:43. > :17:53.stages only totalling just over four miles, a mere 22 seconds

:17:53. > :17:59.

:17:59. > :18:05.separated the top ten crews. This was the longest stage in the event

:18:05. > :18:09.and it was to prove a turning point. Armstrong took a three-second lead

:18:09. > :18:13.into the test, knowing he had to push hard if he was to keep his

:18:13. > :18:23.Championship hopes alive. In the end he pushed too hard and his race

:18:23. > :18:27.

:18:27. > :18:34.Are we on the road? No. I'm miles off the road. Are you all right?

:18:34. > :18:40.Are you OK? I don't know what happened. Yeah. Not my best bit of

:18:40. > :18:45.driving, however. Both back corners, panelled damage, no glass broken.

:18:45. > :18:50.The front bumper. Apart from whiplash wit or repair. Not too bad,

:18:50. > :18:55.we can say we are on leave now. That left the way clear for Bogie

:18:55. > :19:00.to stamp his authority on Gas Speyside. He was quickest through

:19:00. > :19:04.Craig end to kill, a full 17 seconds faster than Faulkner and

:19:04. > :19:12.his standing co-driver, Sutherland. They were locked in a titanic

:19:12. > :19:16.struggle with Thorburn. It is not over yet. We will push on. Under

:19:16. > :19:21.the trees that is slippy, you have to watch what you're doing. We will

:19:21. > :19:25.try to get some time back. We have to get in front of Euan, we are

:19:25. > :19:29.tied. We will see how David is going, attack and get as close as

:19:29. > :19:39.we can. You never know what you can do in rallying, it is the last

:19:39. > :19:46.event to prove. Head was going well in this. We need to pick the peso.

:19:46. > :19:56.We need to go faster at. We need to get onto the podium. -- we need to

:19:56. > :20:04.

:20:04. > :20:09.pick up the pace up. We will give winning position. They had another

:20:09. > :20:13.fastest stage times. We have a good enough lead. We can't afford to do

:20:13. > :20:17.anything silly. We are pushing on hard enough to keep up the

:20:17. > :20:27.concentration. Really enjoying it. This stage we have just done was

:20:27. > :21:06.

:21:06. > :21:11.the battle between the Lancer Evo six off...... And Thorburn in their

:21:11. > :21:16.Lancer Evo nine. After posting identical times in clerkly, they

:21:16. > :21:22.did it again in the ward, amazing tussle for spectators for watch.

:21:22. > :21:26.The pair were locked on an overall time of 27.4-two. The last two

:21:26. > :21:31.stages have been exactly the same time. He's doing the same as we are,

:21:31. > :21:36.he's trying hard. A good push today, two stages left, we will have to

:21:36. > :21:41.carry on the same as we are going and hope we compete. The last

:21:41. > :21:47.stages slippy, lots of chicanes. We prefer to try to do it in the next

:21:47. > :21:54.one, not have the last one asked the decider. Time will tell. Robbie

:21:54. > :22:02.Head had moved up a position into force. -- force. He was following

:22:02. > :22:06.his daughter's Amelie's advice, even if Bogie wasn't. With the heat

:22:06. > :22:09.on, he was ready to pounce if Thorburn or Faulkner made a mistake.

:22:09. > :22:13.You never know until it is physically over because rallying is

:22:13. > :22:17.unpredictable. Things can happen. That is what makes it interesting.

:22:17. > :22:24.We will keep pushing. We are here to try to get on the podium. We

:22:24. > :22:28.will not give up. The Inverness pairing of MacDonald and beaten

:22:28. > :22:31.were proving why they were legitimate challengers for an over

:22:31. > :22:35.riled -- for an overall top-five finish in the Championship. They

:22:35. > :22:41.have been consistent and were occupying a ten -- top ten place.

:22:41. > :22:46.am pleased because my car is reliable. That is where I have been

:22:46. > :22:56.put why am. By car has never let me down. It is right when we go to the

:22:56. > :23:03.

:23:03. > :23:09.start and it finishes. That is Thorburn was so intent they were

:23:09. > :23:15.pushing each other to the limit and as a consequence they both had

:23:15. > :23:19.Bogie wing-back stripes, recording the same time for the third

:23:20. > :23:26.consecutive stage. There was another decent fight between

:23:26. > :23:36.Groundwater... And McKenzie, who was moving up the rankings, only

:23:36. > :23:45.

:23:45. > :23:49.six seconds separated the pair concentrating on their own dog

:23:49. > :23:55.fight, Bogie was able to take things steady and tighten his grip

:23:55. > :23:59.on the event. And the Championship. It has been a great day. I came

:23:59. > :24:07.here to win the rally and that would give us the Championship,

:24:07. > :24:10.said to come away with both, it is not sunk in yet. Thorburn really

:24:10. > :24:16.pushed hard in the final test, recording the fastest stage times

:24:16. > :24:21.and a youngster clinched second position in the space side.

:24:21. > :24:25.last three or four stages, there was nothing in it. I had a good run.

:24:25. > :24:30.I thought it could not be possible. The last one was an awful stage.

:24:30. > :24:37.There was a lot of chicanes. It was so easy to make a mistake, and Mike

:24:38. > :24:43.did. It was good news for us. Bogie's joy constructs --

:24:43. > :24:52.contrasted with Armstrong's despair, his scene -- is season as good as

:24:52. > :24:57.over after his crash in stage four. Male and Forest led home the Escort

:24:57. > :25:07.Mark to contingent. After three previous retirements this season,

:25:07. > :25:13.

:25:13. > :25:23.Robson was delighted with his class the minor placings. 5th on 122

:25:23. > :25:42.

:25:42. > :25:46.points, it is MacDonald. Head was second man to win three consecutive

:25:46. > :25:49.Scottish Rally Championships. Now he and Rae could turn their full

:25:49. > :25:54.attention to the British championship. Would it be a

:25:54. > :25:56.memorable double? To think when I started rallying, to achieve three

:25:56. > :26:00.Scottish championship wins, it's something I would never have

:26:00. > :26:10.dreamed of. To do that and still have a chance of winning the

:26:10. > :26:43.

:26:43. > :26:45.British championship as well, it rallying but you can't take

:26:46. > :26:51.bellying out of the man. There is something about the sport that

:26:51. > :26:57.keeps bringing people back. Robbie Head hadn't competed for five years

:26:57. > :27:01.but he could not resist the lure of the gravel and the forest. I put

:27:01. > :27:09.pressure on myself to perform well. Because you have done it before,

:27:09. > :27:13.you want to come back and get back to that level. Even the other side

:27:13. > :27:17.of the camera, doing your job, I was missing the bus. That's why I

:27:17. > :27:23.came back to it. The results haven't been what I was looking for,

:27:23. > :27:27.to be honest. I would really like to get on the podium and get up

:27:27. > :27:31.with David. I have been a long time away from it. You do miss the

:27:31. > :27:35.adrenalin rush. That is one of the biggest things about the sport.

:27:35. > :27:41.When you are on the STAND line, it makes you feel completely alive. I

:27:41. > :27:47.was missing that. With the Scottish title tied up, David Bogie opted

:27:47. > :27:54.not to take part in his local event, the ProTune Remapping Merrick Merit

:27:54. > :27:58.stages rally in and around Wigton. The other absentee... There was

:27:58. > :28:04.still all to play for in the battle for second place in the

:28:04. > :28:08.championship, Mike thought the red -- Peter foyer was tied.

:28:08. > :28:12.Merrick would go a long wait to decide who would finish the was the

:28:12. > :28:16.runner-up to Bogie. We go out to win every event, give 100%. That is

:28:16. > :28:22.what we will do today and see what happens. It will be an interesting

:28:22. > :28:28.day, a close battle with Euan for the Championship. It is the highest

:28:28. > :28:33.place we can get, equal with might, so we will get a good fight to date

:28:33. > :28:43.and we were close Gas Speyside. Hopefully it will be the same again

:28:43. > :28:57.

:28:57. > :29:06.off to an absolute Stormer. They covered the stage in eight minutes

:29:06. > :29:11.and 31 seconds. A full 17 seconds clear off the next best team, Head.

:29:11. > :29:17.Sisson making only his 4th outing of the season was third, 21 seconds

:29:17. > :29:20.behind the leader. It wasn't a good stage for Thorburn. His turbo pipe

:29:20. > :29:30.came off midway through and he dropped a minute and a half to

:29:30. > :29:40.

:29:40. > :29:46.falter, finishing the stage and expect very slippery conditions,

:29:46. > :29:53.the level of grip was actually quite good. Maybe that lulled

:29:53. > :29:59.Faulkner and spirit Foy into a false sense of security. But the

:29:59. > :30:03.performance was still enough for them to return their overall lead.

:30:03. > :30:08.We were driving within ourselves, we thought, but just really muddy

:30:08. > :30:13.in the end, caught the trees on the outside. Luck tkwroi get away with

:30:13. > :30:17.it. The advantage was now down to eight seconds. Robbie Head

:30:17. > :30:21.maintained second spot and proving he needed a few events under his

:30:21. > :30:28.belt to get back into contention for podium places. He had a three-

:30:28. > :30:32.stage quick fire loop to get into the lead. Where you get no respite,

:30:32. > :30:37.it's bang, bang, bang A void punctures and have good stage times.

:30:37. > :30:42.In these short events, it's a sprint. You drive everyone flat out.

:30:42. > :30:51.So you can't really use a tactic on it. The The quickest time over

:30:51. > :30:57.stage two belonged to Ewan Thorburn. He was ten seconds faster than

:30:57. > :31:00.Falconer. It moved him up 15 places to 20 seconds overall. It was a

:31:00. > :31:05.good fight. Hoping to continue that today. Just one of those things,

:31:05. > :31:11.it's bad luck. But it always seemed to happen know. We were fastest on

:31:11. > :31:21.the last stage. We gave away over a minute to Mike. We'll never catch

:31:21. > :31:23.

:31:23. > :31:31.it up, unless he has problems. really heating newspaper stage

:31:31. > :31:37.three. The EVO nine were top of the time sheet cutting Faulkner's lead

:31:37. > :31:46.to three seconds. Thorburn was two seconds behind Head ace stage time.

:31:46. > :31:51.He moved into 13th. How much was he cursing his bad luck on the opener?

:31:51. > :31:54.Wayne SISon was hanging stkwron third, just two seconds ahead of

:31:54. > :32:04.kiss Collie, who had increased his pace with each event through the

:32:04. > :32:18.

:32:18. > :32:23.Thorburn into the top five for the first time in the day. He was tied

:32:23. > :32:29.with Chris Collie and had SISon in his sights. The Englishman was 19

:32:29. > :32:32.seconds down on Thorburn's stage time but still in third. Mike

:32:32. > :32:36.Faulkner reasserted control of the rally by completing the stage four

:32:36. > :32:46.seconds quicker than Robbie Head. His lead to seven seconds with two

:32:46. > :32:54.

:32:54. > :32:58.stages to go. There was a tight finish on the

:32:58. > :33:02.penultimate test. Faulkner Andrews head with the same time. So they

:33:02. > :33:06.went into the final and longest stage with Faulkner seven seconds

:33:06. > :33:11.up on his rival. The last few we've just been building the confidence

:33:11. > :33:16.up again. We won't have that luxury for the last one. Robbie will be

:33:16. > :33:21.trying to put it up a level as well. I gained one second over the three

:33:21. > :33:25.stages. It's all to play for. Twin or bin it. Thorburn kept up his

:33:25. > :33:35.momentum, just a second adrift of the leaders on the stage and now in

:33:35. > :33:35.

:33:35. > :34:17.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 49 seconds

:34:17. > :34:26.victory after the final stage? Faulkner and Foy had never won at

:34:26. > :34:35.the merrik. So they had to go for broke to take the winners' laurels.

:34:35. > :34:40.Would Head and Molby go all out for Vic -- victory. No problems, if

:34:40. > :34:45.he's taken it in there, he deserve it's. Have you done enough?

:34:45. > :34:50.close, it's hard to say. We didn't have any problems. Probably second,

:34:50. > :34:55.which you know, we pushed, but we didn't take major risks you know.

:34:55. > :35:00.Second's a good result. I'm happy with it. It's the first time on the

:35:00. > :35:07.podium this year. In the end, it was a triumph for Faulkner and Foy,

:35:07. > :35:11.the win edge them two points clear of Thorburn going into the last

:35:11. > :35:16.event. It's as good as it gets. You can't do better than that. It's

:35:16. > :35:20.tight with Ewan, it's all to play for.

:35:20. > :35:23.Looking forward to this now. chance at third there, after this

:35:23. > :35:27.morning's problems, it was never going to be. Fair play to Mike. He

:35:28. > :35:37.drove well. Did he win? Yeah, he won. Fair play. We have to try to

:35:38. > :35:40.

:35:40. > :35:45.beat him there instead. Head and Mol were confirmed as

:35:45. > :35:49.runners up. Who took the final place? SISon and Thorburn tied on

:35:50. > :35:59.the same time Sisson was third because of his quicker time on

:35:59. > :36:03.stage one. Among the crew who's failed to make it were Donny

:36:03. > :36:06.McDonald, the first non-finish of the season. Fifth in the standings

:36:07. > :36:16.going into the event, their challenge ended when they went off

:36:16. > :36:21.the road no a ditch in the enultimate stage. Dougal Brown's

:36:21. > :36:25.event ended with disaster on the final stage when the EVO4 came off

:36:25. > :36:30.the road. Dougal was airlifted to hospital, where thankfully he made

:36:30. > :36:34.a quick recovery. Lewis suffered shock, but was otherwise unharmed.

:36:34. > :36:40.In other classes, there was a brilliant win in the two-wheel

:36:40. > :36:44.category for 19-year-old Cumbrian Peter Taylor, co-driven by Andrew

:36:44. > :36:54.Ruffhead in the Renault Cleo, one of the drives of the season. There

:36:54. > :37:12.

:37:12. > :37:15.was a superb come back win for Andy rally and we hung up the helmet

:37:15. > :37:21.after that. This is really the first Time Out since then. It's

:37:21. > :37:27.been a while. I expect to be rusty for the first few corners. Couple

:37:28. > :37:34.of stages, it really is immense fun and great to be back. If today's

:37:34. > :37:38.anything to go by I'm not going to be able to get enough of it. Great

:37:38. > :37:46.camraderie, good fun. Everybody helps each other. Nobody's aiming

:37:46. > :37:56.to be world champion. Fantastic! Really, really good, enjoyable day.

:37:56. > :38:25.

:38:26. > :38:29.How does that result affect the top rally drivers out of Scandinavia.

:38:30. > :38:34.He was world champion in 1984 and runner up the following year.

:38:34. > :38:39.Stig's never lost his love of the sport. He couldn't wait to compete

:38:39. > :38:43.at the forest stages. Tell me what your memories are of when you won

:38:44. > :38:49.the world championship? It was down in Ivory Coast. It was lucky to

:38:49. > :38:53.finish that rally and get it all done. That was a bit of a difficult

:38:53. > :38:59.one, but I managed to win that and the championship was home. That was

:38:59. > :39:02.nice. You're one of several great rally drivers to come from

:39:02. > :39:11.Scandinavia. Why is it that the Nordic countries produce such good

:39:11. > :39:15.drivers? I think in those days we have the possibility to drive a lot,

:39:15. > :39:20.on ice and snow and gravel all the time. We get a lot of experience on

:39:20. > :39:28.that. But everything is different now. So it's the Europeans have

:39:28. > :39:31.been taking over a bit. Sweden, we don't have any at the moment.

:39:31. > :39:34.Bogie has won the Scottish rally champion and the British rally

:39:34. > :39:40.championship. What do you know and think of Scottish rally driving at

:39:40. > :39:44.the moment? It seems to be fairly good, but we were talking about it

:39:44. > :39:49.last night, and it could go further now. It's very, very difficult.

:39:49. > :39:55.Need a lot of money and that's athe biggest problem for young drivers.

:39:55. > :39:59.It should be able to do it because of his talent. I don't know about

:39:59. > :40:03.the money. -- the body. That's the biggest question. The weather

:40:04. > :40:07.didn't do this stage any favours this year. As the two-wheel drive

:40:07. > :40:12.crews gathered, word came through of a delay when the first stage was

:40:12. > :40:15.blocked by one of the historics, forcing organisers to rethink their

:40:15. > :40:25.plans. They decided to postpone stage one for the main field and

:40:25. > :40:33.

:40:33. > :40:37.third places in the Scottish championship. Mike Faulkner held a

:40:37. > :40:41.two-point advantage over Euan Thorburn before the event, so Euan

:40:41. > :40:45.Thorburn had to beat Mike by two points to be in with a chance. It

:40:46. > :40:52.was looking good, as he bested his rival by almost eight seconds.

:40:52. > :40:56.Treacherous. It's just really muddy. -- muddy. You can't commit. It's

:40:56. > :40:59.pretty much the case of driving as you see it. It's not the best way

:40:59. > :41:04.to finish off the championship. I think these two might be better

:41:04. > :41:07.than what that one was. Fingers crossed we can have a push.

:41:07. > :41:13.stages are terrible. The weather is terrible. A Land Rover would have

:41:13. > :41:19.been more the vehicle you needed. Thorburn was just edged out of the

:41:19. > :41:23.quickest stage time by Shawn Sinclair taking part of only his

:41:23. > :41:27.third rally of the season. He didn't want to interfere in the

:41:27. > :41:33.season-long battle, so wouldn't take any points. The slippery stuff

:41:33. > :41:40.always suits me. I'm always up the gears. It's horrendous conditions.

:41:40. > :41:50.Since Sinclair wouldn't pick up points, Malcom Buchanan found

:41:50. > :42:02.

:42:02. > :42:06.six miles to go. I backed right off because it was sliding wildly

:42:06. > :42:10.around. We have discovered it's flattened the exhaust somewhere. We

:42:10. > :42:15.have virtually no boost. It was a very, very steady drive for half

:42:15. > :42:25.the stage at least. I'm amazed we're so close. The conditions are

:42:25. > :42:30.

:42:30. > :42:33.horrendous. The rocks, like that challenged the drivers' skills to

:42:33. > :42:40.the limit on the first stage. Back in the service area, the mechanics

:42:41. > :42:45.had to cope with the elements. Surprisingly, the grip was better

:42:45. > :42:49.than expected. It was Faulkner who retook the initiative with the

:42:49. > :42:52.fastest stage time, almost three seconds quicker than Thorburn.

:42:52. > :42:57.The pair had been dueling for second place in the championship

:42:57. > :43:03.all season and were now involved in an almighty scrap in the sludge.

:43:03. > :43:08.Still pretty close, so just trying hard, slipy. Just got to keep it on

:43:08. > :43:12.the road till the end. The good thing is that's pulled the gap with

:43:12. > :43:17.Shawn and Robbie. That's what matters. It's hard work. You're

:43:17. > :43:21.living on your whits. You're trying to react to the conditions. The car

:43:21. > :43:28.has a mind of its own sometimes. That wasn't as bad. There was grip

:43:28. > :43:38.to be had. We're in the lead just, it's still all to play for.

:43:38. > :43:40.

:43:40. > :43:46.Malcom Buchanan faultered, dropping to sixth overall. Louise Sutherland

:43:46. > :43:56.and Steve Bannister seemed to relish the conditions, in ninth

:43:56. > :44:01.spot after this stage. Robbie Head saw his chances of a

:44:01. > :44:04.podium evaporate, when he fin shalled the stage a full minute --

:44:04. > :44:10.finished the stage a full minute- and-a-half behind Faulkner and lost

:44:10. > :44:13.his place in the running order to Shawn Sinclair.

:44:13. > :44:18.The boost pipes come off down the bottom. It's popped off completely

:44:18. > :44:24.at the start of the stage. It's like driving on normally as

:44:24. > :44:28.operated one litre. We dropped over a minute. We're tenth or something.

:44:28. > :44:38.We're trying to work out where we can get to with the next 18 miles,

:44:38. > :45:14.

:45:14. > :45:19.longest stage of the day, for was five seconds behind for them. If it

:45:19. > :45:23.stayed like that the pair would be level on points and the destination

:45:23. > :45:29.of second and third place in the Championship would be decided by a

:45:29. > :45:34.tie-break and some complicated maths. Thorburn drove brilliantly,

:45:34. > :45:39.extending his lead over Falconer to 18 seconds. It proved to be good

:45:39. > :45:43.enough. Thorburn feck -- kept his nerve through the final stage to

:45:43. > :45:47.win the event, while Bolton or stuff that brake failure early on

:45:47. > :45:52.and could only limp through. For Bernard Bot there were locked on

:45:52. > :45:59.the same number of Championship points. So who had come second to

:45:59. > :46:02.the imperious Bogie? It was all down to the dreaded count back. As

:46:02. > :46:12.for Byrne and Faulkner awaited their fate, their destination of

:46:12. > :46:16.the runners-up trophy hung in the balance. Eventually after checking

:46:16. > :46:22.and double-checking the figures, Championship chairman Neil Shanxi

:46:22. > :46:25.and his deputy Dave Robson was satisfied they'd had the answer.

:46:25. > :46:31.You count your best six caused an Championship, each had finished all

:46:31. > :46:36.six rounds and dropped two scores. We then had to go right back into

:46:36. > :46:41.the number of first, second, third, in the counting their best six-

:46:41. > :46:46.course. We could not split them on that so the next level takes you

:46:46. > :46:51.back to the snowman rally, between Euan and Mike, who had the best

:46:51. > :46:56.result and that was Euan, who had second place, when Mike Catt force.

:46:56. > :47:02.It was the 5th level of the tie- break, splitting you and Beck Row's

:47:02. > :47:09.favour. So joy for Thorburn put a bit us what -- bitter pill to

:47:09. > :47:12.For a has done well today. thought on the countback we would

:47:12. > :47:16.have got it but with the problems on the last stage the result would

:47:16. > :47:23.not have been any different. makes it even better. Delighted. It

:47:23. > :47:27.has been a tough year. Pretty good to get second and a win today tops

:47:27. > :47:36.the year rough. As usual at the Colin McRae Forest Stages, the

:47:36. > :47:41.historic led the way. Stig took the honours in a Ford Escort, giving

:47:41. > :47:47.him much-needed car time before his next Rally in Kenya. Malcolm

:47:47. > :47:52.Buchanan came third and won Class eight in his Escort Mark two. The

:47:52. > :47:57.season's Group A and Championship was won by Dakar in a Subaru

:47:57. > :48:01.Impreza, and a prize for the 2012 Championship. And a day of

:48:01. > :48:04.unrelenting bad weather the Colin McRae Forest Stages as Billy UPS --
