0:00:14 > 0:00:18In 1993, Wales kicked off their Five Nations campaign

0:00:18 > 0:00:21with a thrilling victory over England,

0:00:21 > 0:00:26forged from a cast-iron defence and one moment of brilliance.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30But it proved to be their only win in that year's Five Nations

0:00:30 > 0:00:34and they finished the tournament at the bottom of the heap.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37Nine months later, Wales hit rock bottom.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40In one of the darkest days in Welsh rugby history,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42they lost to Canada in Cardiff.

0:00:42 > 0:00:47It was a humiliation they were determined to put behind them

0:00:47 > 0:00:49in the 1994 Five Nations.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53We had to get off to a good start.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56We were very fortunate against Scotland. We did that.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58I will never forget it.

0:00:58 > 0:01:02I think Mike Rayer came off the bench and scored two tries.

0:01:02 > 0:01:06I remember him sliding in in the corner for one of them.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09Coming off at the end of that game,

0:01:09 > 0:01:13it was more relief than anything

0:01:13 > 0:01:16just to get that victory under our belts.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20We could put that Canada defeat to one side.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22We could look forward rather than look back,

0:01:22 > 0:01:26which you need to do in any sport.

0:01:26 > 0:01:30It gave us a huge amount of confidence to go to Ireland.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32We had always done OK out in Ireland.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36We struggled with them at home, ironically.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39So it was an opportunity for us to get away from everything

0:01:39 > 0:01:42and go to Ireland and give our all out there.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44It's well held up by Hall.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47Now then, it could have been swung the other way.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Is that just playing into Irish hands? No, it's not!

0:01:50 > 0:01:53Neil Jenkins! Yes, he does get there!

0:01:55 > 0:01:57The fear of failure had subsided a touch

0:01:57 > 0:01:59because we'd already won two games

0:01:59 > 0:02:03so it was an opportunity to go out and show what you can do.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Traditionally, we hadn't done well against France for a number of years

0:02:07 > 0:02:09and for them to come over to the Arms Park

0:02:09 > 0:02:14with the likes of Cecillon, Benazzi, Benetton, Roumat and Merle

0:02:14 > 0:02:18as the back five of their pack.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22You just thought of the carnage they had left across Europe

0:02:22 > 0:02:24the couple of years before,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27and you just thought, "Yeah, it's going to be tough."

0:02:27 > 0:02:32# Feed me 'til I want no more. #

0:02:32 > 0:02:34The old Arms Park was something special.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37If you've been lucky enough to play there,

0:02:37 > 0:02:41'Bread of Heaven' used to reverberate around that ground.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44It was an incredible atmosphere

0:02:44 > 0:02:46and you just felt, "Yeah, I want to be a part of that."

0:02:49 > 0:02:53Four behind the scrum changes in that Welsh line-up.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Mike Rayer winning selection as of right.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59Simon Hill, Nigel Walker and Anthony Clement replacing injured players.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02Most interest centred on how the multi-talented Clement

0:03:02 > 0:03:03copes with his centre role.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07His concentration rather than his talent will be most under pressure.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09A pack that's steadily developing into a cohesive unit.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13It's the final 10 minute performance at Lansdowne Road

0:03:13 > 0:03:15that hopefully will be the starting point today.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Philippe Sella, the cornerstone of that French back division.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21The experience and talent still there but at 97 caps on,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23are the legs still willing?

0:03:23 > 0:03:28At the other extreme, Emile N'Tamack wins his first cap.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30A shadow was cast over the Arms Park

0:03:30 > 0:03:32when the giant lock, Olivier Merle, appeared!

0:03:32 > 0:03:36And he's surrounded by fellow pack members of huge proportions.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39The question mark, though, hangs over the unit's pace.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41The answer then, to move it about.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44Alain Penaud will start the game for France.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46Heavily strapped, Penaud.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49The first touch isn't a sure one.

0:03:49 > 0:03:53It may well and it does result in French possession.

0:03:53 > 0:03:57Philippe Sella hit late by Anthony Clement.

0:03:57 > 0:03:59The referee didn't spot it.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01Neither did the touch judges.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04Again, nobody really able to get hold of the ball

0:04:04 > 0:04:08and I'm sure that Philippe Sella will give referee McLachlan

0:04:08 > 0:04:10a quizzical look right at the outset.

0:04:10 > 0:04:15But Clement getting in the first touch.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18France will be pleased, regaining possession from that kick-off.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21Yes, it was a bit late by Clement but it wasn't spotted.

0:04:26 > 0:04:30The scrum remained quite static.

0:04:30 > 0:04:31The test is for Sadourny.

0:04:31 > 0:04:33The twist away from Hill

0:04:33 > 0:04:37and the first tackle is a good one from Emyr Lewis.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40That's excellent but the French full-back has done well.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43He's turned the right way. The touch judge and referee in together.

0:04:44 > 0:04:47Whose word do they agree on?

0:04:47 > 0:04:52What went wrong? That's the big question mark.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55Sadourny did well to just turn the right way

0:04:55 > 0:04:57despite the attentions of Emyr Lewis.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59Now then, the question is,

0:04:59 > 0:05:02does the referee reverse his decision?

0:05:02 > 0:05:06He does, unfortunately for Wales.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08So that early thrust will be nullified.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17Thierry Lacroix getting in France's first touch finder.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26That's free Welsh ball to Scott Quinnell.

0:05:26 > 0:05:30Where is the support? Just slightly slow in coming.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33Now it's laid back on a plate. Phil Davies.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35The Welsh forwards rampant!

0:05:37 > 0:05:40But, oh, that's absolutely crazy!

0:05:40 > 0:05:42To give away a penalty needlessly.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47Well, they've been fortunate.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50For a moment, I thought it was the Welsh boot

0:05:50 > 0:05:52going in on the Frenchman lying on the ground

0:05:52 > 0:05:54and they had conceded a penalty.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56But fortunately, not spotted by the referee.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Tremendous work by Scott Quinnell.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02Very alert after some slack line-out play by the French.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05The support is perhaps a bit late

0:06:05 > 0:06:08but look how aggressive Wales are, coming into that ruck situation.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11Phil Davies takes the defence on again. Good play by Wales.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14Good psychological play by Wales. Then the penalty is given away.

0:06:14 > 0:06:16A chance for Neil Jenkins.

0:06:20 > 0:06:25Now then, these three would really get things going here.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32And do they get things going here!

0:06:35 > 0:06:38He starts where he finished off a fortnight ago.

0:06:40 > 0:06:45Jenkins is on song and suddenly, the Arms Park is on song as well.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50It is excellent as well that the forwards

0:06:50 > 0:06:53were rewarded for their effort with that three points.

0:06:53 > 0:06:55Penaud. Not the best restart.

0:06:56 > 0:07:00Now then, it's so important that Wales take advantage of that.

0:07:02 > 0:07:04Sadourny brought forward and into midfield.

0:07:04 > 0:07:06Where is the escape route?

0:07:06 > 0:07:10It's not there for the moment, as Hall grasps N'Tamack.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13So his first touch is not the most pleasant either.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16France have done well as Roumat gets things going

0:07:16 > 0:07:19in the right direction for the French.

0:07:19 > 0:07:24No sign of the ball. "Get your hands off it," says Lindsay McLachlan.

0:07:26 > 0:07:29Emyr Lewis put in the tackle but kept his hands on the ball.

0:07:33 > 0:07:37As you see, the French with that four stone advantage or just under.

0:07:37 > 0:07:41Not apparent, thus far at least, because that's a rock solid scrum

0:07:41 > 0:07:44and that's a very well-placed kick from Rupert Moon.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47That's a good tackle from Simon Hill. Now then, Saint-Andre.

0:07:47 > 0:07:51It's a lateral run for the moment. Just gets it behind the defence.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55What great play. Now then, N'Tamack gets Sella running.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58But good cover by Wales. The ball is free.

0:07:58 > 0:08:02Now then, are the avenues cut down for the French switch?

0:08:09 > 0:08:11Penaud not wishing to spread it wide,

0:08:11 > 0:08:15can only pinpoint Mike Rayer, but anticipated well.

0:08:15 > 0:08:17The forwards stand where they are knowing full well

0:08:17 > 0:08:21that Rayer, of all people, will get them back to safety.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25The French using a specialist hooker, by the way.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28They sometimes use a prop. That was outside hand by Roumat.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30McLachlan sees nothing wrong with it.

0:08:30 > 0:08:34That's danger for Wales. The bounce kind as well.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37Now then, they have control here. All options open either side.

0:08:37 > 0:08:41Welsh cover just then left side.

0:08:41 > 0:08:46Gareth Llewellyn stands off to try and guard and fill in holes.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48The French take it on, though.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53Wales coming in from the wrong side. Mark Perego.

0:08:55 > 0:09:00Surely from here, yes, the indication from Roumat

0:09:00 > 0:09:03that he wants his centre, Thierry Lacroix, to kick at goal.

0:09:08 > 0:09:13We're 10 minutes into the match. The sides are separated by three points.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15Now they're equal.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18Thierry Lacroix. His first success out of two.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21And it's three points each.

0:09:26 > 0:09:31So Wales, the Welsh team has the advantage here.

0:09:31 > 0:09:35A quick pick-up by Scott Quinnell and Rupert Moon. Is there space here?

0:09:35 > 0:09:37Quinnell! That's excellent work!

0:09:37 > 0:09:40Galthie got in a hand there that knocked it down.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42Such a shame, but that was slickly done.

0:09:44 > 0:09:47And so pacy. You can't defend against pace.

0:09:47 > 0:09:50That was the crucial element there.

0:09:53 > 0:09:57You'll notice that Wales are wearing green socks

0:09:57 > 0:10:03and there is a reason behind that in that confusion can arise

0:10:03 > 0:10:06when both sides wear the same coloured socks.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09It was felt that last season, the French got away with lots of things.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12It's Quinnell again! This is acres of space.

0:10:12 > 0:10:14It's a matter of timing it. Still there!

0:10:14 > 0:10:17Now then, one more pass! Yes! Has he done it?

0:10:17 > 0:10:22He has done it! Just take a look at the face!

0:10:25 > 0:10:30There was the odd stutter along the way but the path finally cleared.

0:10:32 > 0:10:36And Scott Quinnell triumphantly signals his arrival

0:10:36 > 0:10:38as an international player.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42I don't know if I can explain this. My hair is still standing on end!

0:10:42 > 0:10:45Great alertness again by Scott Quinnell.

0:10:45 > 0:10:48Look at the control, the vision. Head up, looking around him.

0:10:48 > 0:10:52He takes the defenders on. He's got enough strength in those legs.

0:10:52 > 0:10:56He keeps his eye on the line and crosses for a superb individual try.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00Slowing down the flow of adrenaline

0:11:00 > 0:11:03will be Neil Jenkins's biggest problem here.

0:11:10 > 0:11:12Oh, dear me!

0:11:18 > 0:11:21The roar is absolutely deafening.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27French restart.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29And well executed as Benetton...

0:11:29 > 0:11:32Again, the French, as they did when Wales initially scored,

0:11:32 > 0:11:34get straight back into the game.

0:11:34 > 0:11:39Cecillon. The switch is on. Galthie. Penaud. Sadourny.

0:11:39 > 0:11:43Is the defence there? Nigel Walker with a quick turn.

0:11:43 > 0:11:46Covers it well, does Wales' left winger.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49It needs to be backed up though in strength.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52It's all on the retreat and France will get the scrum.

0:11:52 > 0:11:58So typically French, that the response is ultra-positive.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02From one end of the field to the other, Quinnell.

0:12:02 > 0:12:06From triumph to desperation at the end. Just getting back there.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14Llewellyn and Phil Davies, the lock duo.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17One wins it, the other cleans it up.

0:12:17 > 0:12:22It all means that the ball then can be hoisted

0:12:22 > 0:12:24to put France under pressure.

0:12:25 > 0:12:26Brilliantly done by N'Tamack.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30So what we saw from Rayer earlier on,

0:12:30 > 0:12:34replicated by the French right winger.

0:12:34 > 0:12:35The tactic is the same as well.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38That's a touch too far. Rayer has time.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40Has he got support? Yes. Simon Hill.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43Just slightly awkward-looking.

0:12:43 > 0:12:48Now then, Galthie gets Sadourny running away from Ricky Evans.

0:12:48 > 0:12:53That is very, very uncoordinated of the French.

0:12:53 > 0:12:57Now then, there has to be hands in there.

0:13:00 > 0:13:04You'd have thought Benetton would have learned his lesson from the...

0:13:04 > 0:13:08Ha-ha-ha! Isn't that a typical French shrug?!

0:13:10 > 0:13:13But no doubts about whether he was there intentionally

0:13:13 > 0:13:16and with the sole purpose of blocking any second phase.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21This to hoist Wales' total to double figures.

0:13:33 > 0:13:37His number is 10, Wales' number is 11.

0:13:37 > 0:13:40The French are on three and the difference is eight.

0:13:44 > 0:13:45That's Quinnell.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49Turns defence into attack.

0:13:49 > 0:13:51Now then, the drive in.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53Holding on, the French.

0:13:54 > 0:13:56They're being rattled.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00What a game he's having!

0:14:00 > 0:14:03It's not just the try, but it's the presence.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05The good thing that Wales are doing

0:14:05 > 0:14:08is that they're crossing that advantage line,

0:14:08 > 0:14:10which Scott Quinnell does by 15 yards.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13This heavy French pack won't like having to work their way back

0:14:13 > 0:14:15and getting into position.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18You notice the Frenchman there. It's Benazzi falling offside.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20And the opportunity for Wales.

0:14:20 > 0:14:22Good play by Scott Quinnell.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29So we're into time added on the injuries

0:14:29 > 0:14:32and Wales take it against the head even with one man standing out.

0:14:32 > 0:14:36Rupert Moon makes the initial thrust. Now then.

0:14:36 > 0:14:39Roumat was on the wrong side.

0:14:39 > 0:14:42Although, there are lots of people on the wrong side.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45Garin Jenkins the man penalised.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50There's an injury here

0:14:50 > 0:14:55as Benetton, not for the first time, squirms in agony.

0:15:04 > 0:15:09Benetton will use up his own quota or the whole French team's quota here.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Just look at that drive initially.

0:15:11 > 0:15:15Yes, good work and I think it was Scott Quinnell that hurt Benetton.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18No, perhaps I was wrong. Rupert Moon takes the ball off him.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21The famous advantage line is crossed again by Wales

0:15:21 > 0:15:24and was that a boot being put in there?

0:15:24 > 0:15:26Was it Gareth Llewellyn?

0:15:28 > 0:15:29Thierry Lacroix.

0:15:31 > 0:15:36Just a little slack of the Welsh defence, but it's half-time.

0:15:36 > 0:15:39Brynmor, that speaks for itself, I suppose.

0:15:39 > 0:15:42The commitment has been outstanding.

0:15:42 > 0:15:44The only thing that concerns me slightly

0:15:44 > 0:15:46is that territorially, France have been on top.

0:15:46 > 0:15:50I hope Wales can sustain this commitment throughout the second half

0:15:50 > 0:15:54because most international matches are won in the last quarter of an hour.

0:15:54 > 0:15:58We went into the hurdle of half-time and you had your oranges

0:15:58 > 0:16:01and your warm, sweet cup of tea.

0:16:01 > 0:16:04It just felt good, you know?

0:16:04 > 0:16:08The crowd, they were just around you and they were buzzing.

0:16:08 > 0:16:11So it was electric.

0:16:11 > 0:16:16We knew we had only done half the job and that was the biggest thing.

0:16:16 > 0:16:20We could have said, "Yeah, look at what we're doing." But we didn't.

0:16:20 > 0:16:22We knew we had a big half of rugby.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24We knew that France would come back at us.

0:16:24 > 0:16:28We could sit here years later and smile about it

0:16:28 > 0:16:32but for that five minutes in the half-time,

0:16:32 > 0:16:35it was all about what we did in the next 40.

0:16:41 > 0:16:47As Lindsay McLachlan whistles off Neil Jenkins,

0:16:47 > 0:16:49The loose ball is Scott Quinnell's

0:16:49 > 0:16:52and does he start the second half as he started the first?

0:16:52 > 0:16:56The French concede a penalty. Philippe Sella.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01"Got to get out," says the referee. "Got to get out."

0:17:14 > 0:17:19The second half starts with a Welsh penalty goal

0:17:19 > 0:17:23and registers a further three points and brings up the total to 14.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25France remaining on three.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30I tell you what,

0:17:30 > 0:17:34Penaud hasn't had as much practice as this for a long time in restarting.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41Now then, is that well enough protected? Yes, it is.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46Sadourny. It's into the breeze.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48It's very difficult. Who calls?

0:17:52 > 0:17:55It's hardly worth saying it was Quinnell!

0:17:56 > 0:17:59He's turning up everywhere. Now, there is space there.

0:17:59 > 0:18:01That's a very intelligent kick

0:18:01 > 0:18:03and Mike Hall is making headway on N'Tamack.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06That's untidy work. John Davies is there, of all people!

0:18:06 > 0:18:09The ball has to be picked up and spread here.

0:18:09 > 0:18:14Moon and Emyr Lewis. Lewis with the head-down charge.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17The wider option is open here. Now then, Clement.

0:18:19 > 0:18:22Is there support? Offside from France in front of the posts.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25Dead centre. Jenkins steps into the picture.

0:18:28 > 0:18:29Now then.

0:18:29 > 0:18:31# Feed me 'til I want no more

0:18:31 > 0:18:35# Feed me 'til I want no more. #

0:18:35 > 0:18:38The singing, just pushed out of his mind.

0:18:38 > 0:18:42Jenkins yet again. The tally up to 17.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47Twelve of them to that man there wearing 10, Neil Jenkins.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56Again, it's perfect line-out ball.

0:18:56 > 0:19:01The snap from Mike Hall just far enough. But it wasn't tightly...

0:19:01 > 0:19:03Again, that's the problem.

0:19:03 > 0:19:06Now they're covering ground. There's a problem here. Lots of gaps.

0:19:06 > 0:19:10Good tackle by Rupert Moon. N'Tamack collared by Mark Perego.

0:19:10 > 0:19:13Wales should have it. Rupert Moon keeps it in play.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16The chase is on for Walker. Can he keep control?

0:19:16 > 0:19:20Sadourny just about getting away with it.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22Still in play! Now then!

0:19:22 > 0:19:26Gonzales, of all people! The French in total disarray.

0:19:26 > 0:19:33It really is seeing the French at their most ungainly, uncoordinated.

0:19:39 > 0:19:43Quinnell sets off again. Collects Penaud.

0:19:43 > 0:19:47Emyr Lewis, has he regathered? He certainly receives the treatment.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52It's just on the odd occasion

0:19:52 > 0:19:55that things haven't quite been tied in tightly enough.

0:19:57 > 0:19:59But they're very minor blemishes

0:19:59 > 0:20:03on a performance that will be long remembered here.

0:20:14 > 0:20:19Gonzales. Galthie has been offered space. Cecillon and Benazzi.

0:20:20 > 0:20:23Now then, Neil Jenkins and Ricky Evans back to do some tackling work.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25Roumat.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28Are the French beginning to build up a head of steam?

0:20:28 > 0:20:32The switch from Galthie and Penaud. The dancing feet of Pennell.

0:20:32 > 0:20:34Benazzi again!

0:20:38 > 0:20:41Comprehensive tackle. 'Keep hands off it' is the message.

0:20:41 > 0:20:45Now then, the wider option. Sella covered by Clement.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48It's no man's land. It's taken on by Roumat.

0:20:48 > 0:20:53The tackle was by Phil Davies in midfield.

0:20:53 > 0:20:55The French are recycling ball after ball.

0:20:55 > 0:20:58Saint-Andre. Thierry Lacroix.

0:20:58 > 0:21:02But again, there is no chink appearing.

0:21:03 > 0:21:07But now, the French gather their lines.

0:21:07 > 0:21:08There's a sense of purpose

0:21:08 > 0:21:12as they build up some momentum from this drive.

0:21:12 > 0:21:16Can they make it? They will! They've scored! At last, a French try.

0:21:19 > 0:21:23And the captain will be the man who will celebrate

0:21:23 > 0:21:26after receiving treatment, I'm sure.

0:21:28 > 0:21:31They just keep it low like a scrummage and keep driving together

0:21:31 > 0:21:37and eventually Roumat peels off the side of that maul and scores a try.

0:21:41 > 0:21:44Quinnell is quickly off, Emyr Lewis is quickly off

0:21:44 > 0:21:46and under pressure is Galthie.

0:21:46 > 0:21:48Penaud away from Rupert Moon. Now then.

0:21:50 > 0:21:52Again, a telling tackle.

0:21:53 > 0:21:57France, through Galthie again. A fine pass to Saint-Andre.

0:21:57 > 0:21:59The French, can they get in there?

0:22:00 > 0:22:02Just denied!

0:22:02 > 0:22:08Play goes on as Roumat just runs into a brick wall

0:22:08 > 0:22:11and is denied a second phase.

0:22:11 > 0:22:14It doesn't come back.

0:22:14 > 0:22:15It doesn't appear.

0:22:21 > 0:22:24A rock-like Welsh scrum.

0:22:30 > 0:22:34So it's inch by inch away from that danger zone.

0:22:42 > 0:22:48Possession is there. Now then, Penaud.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51Straight in goes Sella under the posts!

0:22:51 > 0:22:54That's so typical of the French

0:22:54 > 0:22:57and they're skipping with delight out wide.

0:22:57 > 0:22:59That was simplicity itself

0:22:59 > 0:23:04and suddenly, the whole complexion of the game is changing.

0:23:06 > 0:23:11The most capped international rugby player in the Championship

0:23:11 > 0:23:15and there, gets one of his easier tries.

0:23:15 > 0:23:19Good possession initially for the French.

0:23:19 > 0:23:21Controlled possession incidentally.

0:23:21 > 0:23:24Most moves in Rugby are two-phased.

0:23:24 > 0:23:26First is the decoy run. There we see it.

0:23:26 > 0:23:29Then Sella takes the ball coming straight.

0:23:29 > 0:23:33The space was created by the decoy run and he scores under the posts.

0:23:33 > 0:23:36And Thierry Lacroix converted the try.

0:23:36 > 0:23:41So now then, two points the difference. The French up to 15.

0:23:52 > 0:23:55It's a penalty against Ricky Evans.

0:23:59 > 0:24:02So, it's a punch thrown.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12Not easy for Lacroix to concentrate.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14He strikes it beautifully.

0:24:16 > 0:24:21But...so close, yet, as they say, so far,

0:24:21 > 0:24:24because it makes no difference at all to the scoreboard.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30We're into the final 10 minutes. Two points separating the two sides.

0:24:30 > 0:24:34Quinnell! Mark Perego!

0:24:34 > 0:24:37Wales at last get hands on the ball.

0:24:37 > 0:24:40They get movement going. Now then, there are wide options on here.

0:24:40 > 0:24:45Mike Hall. A chase for Hill. That will satisfy most people, I'm sure.

0:24:58 > 0:25:03So the French, from all areas of the field now, want to attack.

0:25:03 > 0:25:05N'Tamack, half held by Hall.

0:25:05 > 0:25:08Now, what a run this is by Saint-Andre!

0:25:08 > 0:25:11Kept in play. Back there is Moon.

0:25:11 > 0:25:14Benetton had to be miles offside.

0:25:14 > 0:25:16The French can't believe it

0:25:16 > 0:25:20but he was a good 10 or 15 metres in front of Saint-Andre.

0:25:33 > 0:25:38We've seen a Welsh drive. Now it's the French,

0:25:38 > 0:25:44as Garin Jenkins tries to nudge it or stop it.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47He tries to get in there... lodge himself inside.

0:25:47 > 0:25:50And Roumat hasn't well enough controlled it.

0:25:50 > 0:25:52Galthie. Now, then.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55The French, again, looking for spaces out wide.

0:25:55 > 0:25:58Tackled by Perego. Galthie. Hall sells himself.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01But there are... Well, there were spaces. Penaud.

0:26:01 > 0:26:05Ricky Evans...John Davies, rather, puts in the tackle

0:26:05 > 0:26:07on the French outside-half.

0:26:08 > 0:26:12France keep possession, but make no headway for the moment.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18Penaud, yet again.

0:26:18 > 0:26:21Now, then. The tackle on Saint-Andre.

0:26:21 > 0:26:24N'Tamack. Quinnell has it. Nigel Walker!

0:26:24 > 0:26:27He'll score! Just look at this!

0:26:27 > 0:26:31This will round it off. Oh, dear me!

0:26:31 > 0:26:34The place goes wild. The game is over, surely.

0:26:34 > 0:26:36That will hurt the French.

0:26:36 > 0:26:41There are Frenchmen around the field absolutely distraught.

0:26:41 > 0:26:45That will lock it up for the Welshmen, both on and off the field,

0:26:45 > 0:26:49delirious with joy.

0:26:52 > 0:26:56Nigel Walker, in his comeback match.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00France trying to counter attack in desperation,

0:27:00 > 0:27:02knowing that time is running away.

0:27:02 > 0:27:06Scott Quinnell, easily the man of the match, alert as ever,

0:27:06 > 0:27:08and he gives it to fastest man on the park.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10He doesn't fail on chances like this.

0:27:10 > 0:27:14Great pace, crossing in the corner for a great try.

0:27:16 > 0:27:20We're in to time added on for injuries.

0:27:20 > 0:27:24Neil Jenkins has this conversion attempt, surely,

0:27:24 > 0:27:26to lock out the French.

0:27:27 > 0:27:31A fraction inside the touchline.

0:27:32 > 0:27:35The concentration absolute.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40CHEERING

0:27:44 > 0:27:45WHISTLE

0:27:46 > 0:27:50It wraps it up. It does wrap it up.

0:27:54 > 0:27:57The place, well...

0:27:57 > 0:28:01is a sea of noise, of colour and celebration.

0:28:02 > 0:28:05Just look at that full time score.

0:28:05 > 0:28:08Wales, 24...

0:28:08 > 0:28:10France, 15.

0:28:11 > 0:28:13'I feel a bit embarrassed.

0:28:13 > 0:28:18'People come up and say, "Remember that game in '94? Absolutely wonderful."

0:28:18 > 0:28:22'If I could hand that man of the match over to the seven guys in that pack,

0:28:22 > 0:28:25'not taking anything away from the backs, they were wonderful.

0:28:25 > 0:28:29They set the platform for everything.

0:28:29 > 0:28:32Don't tell everybody, but the front five do win you games

0:28:32 > 0:28:36and they do get you man of the matches when you're number eight

0:28:36 > 0:28:38so, guys, thank you very much.

0:28:38 > 0:28:43Wales travelled to Twickenham in search of Grand Slam glory

0:28:43 > 0:28:47but it proved a game too far as they fell to the old enemy.

0:28:47 > 0:28:48They'd done enough, though,

0:28:48 > 0:28:52to lift their first Five Nations trophy for more than 15 years.

0:28:52 > 0:28:55The celebrations, understandably, were bittersweet,

0:28:55 > 0:28:59but we were left in no doubt the Dragon could breathe fire again.
