:00:25. > :00:30.England and Wales, both played three and won two. The title was still up
:00:31. > :00:40.for grabs but Wales were caught napping. Danny Care takes it quickly
:00:41. > :00:46.and scores. Penalty. Puts it behind Halfpenny. Deflection.
:00:47. > :00:48.With poor execution and errors mounting, Wales pay the ultimate
:00:49. > :01:06.price. What now for Wales? Good evening. Welcome to the Scrum V
:01:07. > :01:16.Six Nations Special. It was a dark day for Wales at Twickenham this
:01:17. > :01:19.afternoon. Now the inquest begins with Jonathan Davies, Robert Jones,
:01:20. > :01:22.Lyn Jones and Gareth Llewellyn. And, that ladies and gentlemen, may well
:01:23. > :01:28.be the biggest Welsh cheer we have had all day. Jonathan Davies, where
:01:29. > :01:33.did it all go wrong? The best side won. I think we hung on the first
:01:34. > :01:41.half. We should have been further behind. Nothing really went well for
:01:42. > :01:47.us. Our kicking game wasn't great. We didn't counterattack. You know,
:01:48. > :01:52.the wingers weren't brought into the game at all. We weren't creative.
:01:53. > :01:56.The biggest thing for me, Ireland worked us out. England did the same.
:01:57. > :01:59.There was one example today we highlighted after the game, when
:02:00. > :02:02.they were wrapping around in the second half, after 60 minute, they
:02:03. > :02:07.had four defenders waiting for us and two attackers still went and
:02:08. > :02:12.went through the system. You know, you can't do that any more. What was
:02:13. > :02:18.happening was they were able to tackle the ball, rather than ball
:02:19. > :02:23.carriers, one went low, one ripped the ball and from a good position in
:02:24. > :02:26.the 22, we weren't attacking the ball. You were at Twickenham, Rob,
:02:27. > :02:29.you were talking about the experience Wales had. You thought
:02:30. > :02:33.that might give them the edge over England. Where were our big Test
:02:34. > :02:37.Match players? Warren Gatland said that before the game. I spoke to
:02:38. > :02:40.him. They were talking about the experience they had and the lack of
:02:41. > :02:44.experience England had. But England today, they beat us in every
:02:45. > :02:47.department. They were sharper than us. Probably more physical than us.
:02:48. > :02:51.I think they were more imaginative than us. They created a lot. They
:02:52. > :02:55.were prepared to play from deep and they played with pace and momentum.
:02:56. > :02:59.I think Stuart Lancaster has a side there who he allows the fwree dom to
:03:00. > :03:03.express themselves. That came through today. I agree with
:03:04. > :03:06.Jonathan. I think we have been found out twice this season. They had done
:03:07. > :03:10.their homework and I think, as a result, sides are starting to work
:03:11. > :03:13.us out and starting to compete in certain areas which we have
:03:14. > :03:17.dominated in the past. Another disappointing performance on the
:03:18. > :03:21.road, Gareth? It is. As well as England played, I think a lot of our
:03:22. > :03:26.problems are self-inflicted. We are making a will the of mistakes. As
:03:27. > :03:31.Jonathan said, we are losing poorly, making too many mistakes. We fell
:03:32. > :03:35.off the tackles today. We talk about big match players. At the moment we
:03:36. > :03:40.are sfrugling to implement a game plan which has served us well and
:03:41. > :03:44.we've louts. We all the et if we were struggling against the southern
:03:45. > :03:48.hemisphere sides. Now we are struggling to implement it and we
:03:49. > :03:50.don't have an answer. More from you later.
:03:51. > :03:55.Now let's bring you commentary from the big match. Your commentators,
:03:56. > :04:00.Martyn Williams, Brian Moore and Eddie butt letter.
:04:01. > :04:09.-- Butler. Still the penalty advantage. Farrell
:04:10. > :04:24.wrapped up by Sam Warburton. We go back to the first penalty.
:04:25. > :04:33.Danny Care takes it quickly and scores.
:04:34. > :04:38.Courtney Lawes. Rhys Webb with the tackle and Lawes didn't lease.
:04:39. > :04:49.Penalty to Wales. -- didn't release.
:04:50. > :04:56.Safely landed. Wales are on the board. Jonathan Davies.
:04:57. > :05:15.Oh, the pass surely would have done it.
:05:16. > :05:25.No immediate challenge on May. He runs around Jonathan Davies, Jamie
:05:26. > :05:32.Roberts tracks back with the tackle. Good counter-rucking by Wales. It's
:05:33. > :05:43.gone scrappily and illegally for England.
:05:44. > :05:55.And we say it all the time, it is a superb strike by Leigh Halfpenny.
:05:56. > :06:03.Oh, Wales are in real trouble here. Twelve fwefl twelve comes away with
:06:04. > :06:11.it. A pass to Jonny May. Leigh Halfpennier to across. May still
:06:12. > :06:26.goes. Care has the ball. Twelvetrees puts it behind Halfpenny. Burrell.
:06:27. > :06:43.A penalty, England are offside in front of the knock-on.
:06:44. > :06:57.Same result as ever. Five penalties for Leigh Halfpenny.
:06:58. > :07:04.North still going and delivers the pass into space. Danny Care, though,
:07:05. > :07:06.in trouble. Good covering by the England scrum-half. They have earned
:07:07. > :07:23.themselves a penalty. . That went towardses are Reece
:07:24. > :07:41.Priestland, oh and Priestland drops it.
:07:42. > :07:47.Penalty to England from in a scrummage. England's lead goes and
:07:48. > :07:56.now Wales will have to score at least twice.
:07:57. > :08:04.It is difficult to bring George North down. Now Wales do have a
:08:05. > :08:08.chance leer. Cuthbert - the speed of Cuthbert again. He gets the ball to
:08:09. > :08:14.Priestland with Faletau in support. He gets the ball to Leigh Halfpenny.
:08:15. > :08:18.Danny Care back with a tackle. Wales, though, through Jamie
:08:19. > :08:22.Roberts. He tries to kick and that's not going to work. Owen Farrell has
:08:23. > :08:33.the simple task of touching down for the 22.
:08:34. > :08:40.A penalty to England. This could be a yellow card as well. It is. Yellow
:08:41. > :09:21.card, Gethin Jenkins. 26-18. It's gone horribly wrong as
:09:22. > :09:29.Billy Twelvetrees comes away with it. England, through Jack Nowell,
:09:30. > :09:36.and Faletau gets back. He finds Courtney Lawes. Burrell, four caps,
:09:37. > :09:46.four tries is it? Or is he out of play. Four caps, three tries.
:09:47. > :09:55.Mike Phillips can't get the ball away cleanly.
:09:56. > :10:08.The front rowers, they have such an appetite for contact and tackling.
:10:09. > :10:11.Cuthbert drops it. That will be it. Romain n Poite blows for half time.
:10:12. > :10:17.It is smiles all round for those wearing white. England have beaten
:10:18. > :10:22.Wales here at Twickenham by 29-18. So, a Triple Crown for England,
:10:23. > :10:27.their first since 2003. Let's get reaction from both camps.
:10:28. > :10:35.This is the Verdict. I mean, the cloud were fantastic
:10:36. > :10:43.from the off. They gave us the energy prior to the game. We We set
:10:44. > :10:51.out from the start. We didn't get it all right. Leigh Halfpenny punished
:10:52. > :10:55.us. Overall we were deserved winners. I thought they put our
:10:56. > :10:59.kicking game under pressure. When Danny Care got the first try, we
:11:00. > :11:03.didn't rely. It is a lapse in concentration, from the forwards, as
:11:04. > :11:07.soon as the penalty is given, we should get back up and get back into
:11:08. > :11:12.it straight away. We failed and there were a couple of crucial
:11:13. > :11:16.turnovers. Little things like, that it was, seven, 10, 13 points in the
:11:17. > :11:21.game and suddenly you are chasing and it makes it difficult in this
:11:22. > :11:26.tournament we have been inconsistent. At times we play
:11:27. > :11:32.exceptionally well and at times we haven't been as good and capable as
:11:33. > :11:37.we have been. I think we have to lack at one or two guys. Players
:11:38. > :11:42.coming off the bench have done a good job. Maybe they deserve that
:11:43. > :11:45.opportunity or the reward for good displays. It is important we have a
:11:46. > :11:49.look at the game and sit down and then we make what we think is a
:11:50. > :11:54.prudent judgment about the selection for next week.
:11:55. > :11:58.Really disappointing, another poor performance for Wales away from
:11:59. > :12:02.home. Sean Holley is here. Sean, for you, what happened? I don't think
:12:03. > :12:07.Wales looked like winning either of their away games. If you look at the
:12:08. > :12:12.general statistics. It was a 50/50 game in territory and possession but
:12:13. > :12:17.England carved out two crucial tries. The metres game is where
:12:18. > :12:22.England won. Their back three carried twice as far as ours but
:12:23. > :12:28.after the 50% of potential Wales had, they kicked it 30 times, 60%.
:12:29. > :12:33.It is not necessarily how much but how accurately. The kicks were
:12:34. > :12:38.aimless, too far. They often found the England back three who were
:12:39. > :12:43.very, very dangerous. They were cute. Watch again, the kick is too
:12:44. > :12:47.far, it gets to Jonny May. And Launchbury subtle but enough to
:12:48. > :12:50.distract Richard Hibbard from tackling Jack Nowell. England
:12:51. > :12:55.surprised Wales from kourntd attacking from deep in their own 22.
:12:56. > :12:59.They picked and wented up the middle, scuppering Wales' wide
:13:00. > :13:04.defence and in Courtney Lawes, in the game in his own 22. Ben Morgan
:13:05. > :13:09.in for Vunipola. Looked dangerous from deep. When you do that it
:13:10. > :13:13.brings the Wales' win wingers up. Owen Farrell knows this and sees
:13:14. > :13:17.Cuthbert is out of position. This times he goes over his head and pins
:13:18. > :13:20.them back further in their territory. When they were deep in
:13:21. > :13:25.their half they couldn't get out. England pushed them back as close as
:13:26. > :13:31.their own line. Time and time again they were caught. England were on
:13:32. > :13:37.their game. Basic skills let England down. 24 missed tackles. Poor
:13:38. > :13:46.presentation was poor from Wales. You see Hibbard and Owen Wilson. All
:13:47. > :13:51.day long they presented long and clean, England, so Danny Care could
:13:52. > :13:54.have an armchair ride. The basic kicking tactics was there. This was
:13:55. > :14:00.a good tactic from Jonathan Davies. He saw the space but the execution
:14:01. > :14:05.was really, really poor. Contrast again the defendant skanl touch of
:14:06. > :14:09.Billy Twelvetrees putting it on his foot -- the defendant skills. There
:14:10. > :14:15.was some coaching decisions on the day. Should Reece prees land have
:14:16. > :14:21.been on as long as he did? And did Paul Jones come on a bit late? . In
:14:22. > :14:26.a release from last year's scrummage, England won the day.
:14:27. > :14:29.Gethin Jenkins disappointed with a yellow card. Paul James, when he
:14:30. > :14:34.came on, it was a different story but was it too little, too late? We
:14:35. > :14:38.make these coaching decisions on the field. Were they do late, what did
:14:39. > :14:43.you make of the substitutions? Well, damned if we do and damned if we
:14:44. > :14:46.don't. The thing with Wales, we were still in the game. We were still
:14:47. > :14:51.there and you know as a coach you have to give faith to your players.
:14:52. > :14:57.You have made your selection, and, you know, it is a tough call.
:14:58. > :15:02.Certainly Dan Biggar came on and steadied the step. The error count
:15:03. > :15:06.and skill levels were poor throughout. A lot of players for
:15:07. > :15:10.Wales were playing very well. Some didn't play well at all. When you
:15:11. > :15:15.take that into consideration, it is quite a simple game, rugby. If you
:15:16. > :15:22.make mistakes, time and time again, you won't win matches. Jonathan in
:15:23. > :15:28.the studio, you called T you said the half back parter inship wasn't
:15:29. > :15:33.working. And it was said that's why the coaches are paid big bucks. It
:15:34. > :15:37.wasn't working. We saw the stats. You know, there was a lot of
:15:38. > :15:40.mistakes during the match. I think we all know, Reece Priestland is a
:15:41. > :15:47.confidence player. He wasn't confident. Sometimes he seems as if
:15:48. > :15:51.the world is on your shoulders. You don't want that from a halfback. He
:15:52. > :15:55.is the one dictating the game for you. They were far more creative
:15:56. > :16:01.than us. It was difficult. They worked our system out to defind T
:16:02. > :16:06.they put pressure on it. Tackles in. They played with pace. Their second
:16:07. > :16:12.rows were brill yanted but they hit midfield a lot. Danny Care and Owen
:16:13. > :16:15.Farrell and Mike dictated which way they were going. They were asking
:16:16. > :16:18.questions from us all the time. It was difficult to work out what
:16:19. > :16:23.exactly we were trying to do. Gareth, to be fair, we were talking
:16:24. > :16:27.about Reece Priestland and were those kicks bad execution or is it
:16:28. > :16:32.what we are trying to do? For so long we have kicked the ball long
:16:33. > :16:37.for territory. We have two big guys in the centre, we have two of the
:16:38. > :16:42.biggest wingers in world rugby, we never kick for pressure and for the
:16:43. > :16:47.guys to compete. We saw nierld, Rob Kearney catching the ball, putting
:16:48. > :16:50.it up in the air and compete competing Leigh Halfpenny for the
:16:51. > :16:54.ball. It puts pressure on us. If we recover, we have to get 14 boys back
:16:55. > :16:59.behind the ball to do something with it. As much as it is easy to point
:17:00. > :17:03.the fingers at players and some didn't play well but we have to
:17:04. > :17:07.question our tactics. The chase wasn't good then. If you are chasing
:17:08. > :17:12.distance, the chase has to be good. If you are kicking, the form
:17:13. > :17:17.fullback, and if you are going to kick long, the chase has to be spot
:17:18. > :17:23.on. The chase is reasonable. You are allowing Mike Brown, 20 or 30
:17:24. > :17:29.meeters to run back. Is he has it make up that ground and then put the
:17:30. > :17:35.kick in. England kicked Wales and you thought - here we g two pairs of
:17:36. > :17:38.hand over the field. I this I think it was north.
:17:39. > :17:45.There was a change of tactics. Then, I thought - here we g a fresh
:17:46. > :17:49.impetus, a different tactic. Another thing we didn't do well. As Gareth
:17:50. > :17:53.said with the Irish fullback is take the ball right up to the line, to
:17:54. > :17:59.the defence. Get everybody up and drag your chasers right through that
:18:00. > :18:03.to get in the air and challenge. Although we have our back line, I
:18:04. > :18:05.think everyone is scared of playing against them. They
:18:06. > :18:07.think everyone is scared of playing brilliant and the wingers are
:18:08. > :18:11.dangerous. We need them to have ball in hand. We don't
:18:12. > :18:14.dangerous. We need them to have ball If you look at the selection issues,
:18:15. > :18:17.maybe later, we are not going to go outside of the squad. Whatever
:18:18. > :18:23.people think, we haven't got the strength and depth in Wales in the
:18:24. > :18:27.countryside. With the players we have, we have time before the next
:18:28. > :18:31.World Cup. You look at the New Zealand centre. He was told three
:18:32. > :18:35.years ago - listen, mate, if you don't work on your handling and
:18:36. > :18:40.distribution and kicking skills you won't be playing for the All Blacks,
:18:41. > :18:45.look at him now, he is a brilliant distributor. He has a hand in
:18:46. > :18:53.kicking the ball. Why don't our centres work on that. There should
:18:54. > :18:58.be more dummy running and kicking options and put the ball through the
:18:59. > :19:02.hands because Jamie attracts so many people. Just off loading and bring
:19:03. > :19:06.the wingers in. The owners comes back in the regions. I'm in chanch
:19:07. > :19:09.one of. It is the skill development we all need to have a responsibility
:19:10. > :19:12.for. The direction comes from Warren as head of our national side to give
:19:13. > :19:17.us a little bit more direction as well, so we can keep out. We have a
:19:18. > :19:22.day-to-day touch with all the players. Today's performance is a
:19:23. > :19:25.reflection on our regions as well and all community clubs right
:19:26. > :19:30.throughout Wales. Can I just say on what Sean was saying there, he
:19:31. > :19:37.mentioned the 60% kicking statistic. You know what, when Munster was at
:19:38. > :19:41.their pomp, they kicked away 60% of their possession and they were the
:19:42. > :19:47.best team in Europe. The statistic, as Sean rightly said, is not bad, it
:19:48. > :19:52.is how accurate you are. New Zealand kick more than anyone else. We don't
:19:53. > :19:54.play the way we play because of the limb takeses of the players. It
:19:55. > :19:58.comes back to the limb takeses of the players. It
:19:59. > :20:02.there is more than the Welsh group than they are showing at the moment.
:20:03. > :20:06.We can play more expansive rugby. But we are playing the way we are
:20:07. > :20:10.because that's how we are being asked to play. We need to look at
:20:11. > :20:14.the strengths of the players and adopt a game plan to allow them to
:20:15. > :20:20.come through. We are not getting the best of Cuthbert and George North.
:20:21. > :20:26.Jamie Robert, he is one-dimensional when he does a job. There is a
:20:27. > :20:29.couple of things that Sean picked up on and you were talking about
:20:30. > :20:32.accuracy. I'm thinking back to the last couple of seasons in the World
:20:33. > :20:35.Cup in 2001 #1, everything was coming off. In the Grand Slam
:20:36. > :20:39.following that and also last year, can you remember a time where Wales
:20:40. > :20:44.were this sloppy in the Six Nations Championship? No. I think the Lions
:20:45. > :20:48.probably has a part to play on T we have come back and looked tired and
:20:49. > :20:51.jaded. We talk about fitness levels. Normally the last 10 or 15 minutes
:20:52. > :20:54.is very important to Warren Gatland. He believes his side are fitter than
:20:55. > :20:59.other teams and we'll come through. I don't think that was the case. Do
:21:00. > :21:02.you think some players were struggling fitness-wise? Looking on
:21:03. > :21:07.the park. Do you buy that? Or is it a lame excuse It is a fast track.
:21:08. > :21:09.Twickenham is very fast. It is the best international surface in
:21:10. > :21:13.northern hemisphere. It is brilliant. It is going to tire youed
:21:14. > :21:18.out. But, again, the way we played, if you are on the front foot and
:21:19. > :21:22.everyone is coming around the corner and steaming over people, then it is
:21:23. > :21:27.easier and it is easier to execute your skills. When waiting for you
:21:28. > :21:31.and put the pressure in the tackle area and you are not going over the
:21:32. > :21:34.advantage line then it is harder to execute it. We have to vary it and
:21:35. > :21:38.ask questions of the defence. That's what they have to do and change the
:21:39. > :21:43.gym differently. Again going back to what they have to do and change the
:21:44. > :21:48.Reece, he is there to do a job. -- Rees. The play is maybe more in the
:21:49. > :21:52.face and he is kinds of more adventurous than Dan Biggar. If that
:21:53. > :21:56.is he at case and you want to stick with that stand-off, give James Hook
:21:57. > :22:01.a go to see how he goes. If you want a more controlling influence and a
:22:02. > :22:06.bit of arrogance, you give Dan Biggar a G these are the decisions
:22:07. > :22:09.they have to make now. I think Dan Biggar Fitzwarren Gatland's
:22:10. > :22:13.became-plan more so than Rees Priestland at the moment. It will be
:22:14. > :22:18.interesting to see how plays fullback -- than Rhys.
:22:19. > :22:23.One big plus for me was Leigh Halfpenny's goal kicking, it waented
:22:24. > :22:25.just fantastic. I thought he struggled with those distances in
:22:26. > :22:30.the Australian tour in the summer with the Lions. Today he had four
:22:31. > :22:33.kicks from ten yards to half way. He was nailing them with distance. I
:22:34. > :22:37.would imagine he has been working on them. That was a lot to do with the
:22:38. > :22:42.surface. As I said, Twickenham, it is a brilliant place to play rugby
:22:43. > :22:45.and a brilliant surface to kick. In Australia, it was slightly, you
:22:46. > :22:50.know, wet underfoot and he didn't get the distance. Here is the thing
:22:51. > :22:53.about the game plan. How many sometimes have we talked about the
:22:54. > :22:56.game plan when we have lost and it has come to nothing because we have
:22:57. > :23:02.won the Championship or the Grand Slam. Now we are left empty handed
:23:03. > :23:05.and now people will say Wales are too one-dimensional, what happens
:23:06. > :23:10.next? Very much so. You know, although the Six Nations is probably
:23:11. > :23:14.the best-supported tournament in the world bes, it is still second rate
:23:15. > :23:18.it the Try Nations and we are well down the pecking order. Things are
:23:19. > :23:22.not going to plan for us and where we need to be. You looking for small
:23:23. > :23:26.improvements all the time. It is not coming through, those small
:23:27. > :23:31.improvements. You don't mind losing a game as long as you see certain
:23:32. > :23:35.aspects getting better. The whole game plan replies on quick ruck ball
:23:36. > :23:40.and going forward and when it all kicked off in 2008 obviously there
:23:41. > :23:43.was a whole bunch of Ospreys went up there to Wales and this was the game
:23:44. > :23:49.plan and we don't step out of it. This is what we do, we adhere to it.
:23:50. > :23:53.Don't step out of plan, get work and workern harder arounds the corner,
:23:54. > :23:58.etc. They found it enjoyable but then obviously restructured as well.
:23:59. > :24:01.What do you think? And very successful Absolutely. Players don't
:24:02. > :24:05.turn bad overnight. They don't turn into a bad side. Maybe they are
:24:06. > :24:09.tired but they have been worked out and they have to, you know, if
:24:10. > :24:15.people are working us out we have to think about it. You have South
:24:16. > :24:20.Africa... We have done it before and won Championships, so we keep on
:24:21. > :24:23.doing it but if you don't keep evolving you will get worked out.
:24:24. > :24:27.Every time you play you have weaknesses in your game. You need to
:24:28. > :24:32.find out what they are. It takes a brave man and coach to work at and
:24:33. > :24:35.and say - where are we weak? Where are teams looking at us where they
:24:36. > :24:40.will exploit us the next game? A quick word to Rob, if I can, about
:24:41. > :24:43.England. Do you think in many ways, Wales, and the rest of the Six
:24:44. > :24:48.Nations have underestimated what has been happening at Twickenham.
:24:49. > :24:51.Something is changing under Stuart Lancaster? Last year I think there
:24:52. > :24:56.were signs of improvement, they were getting better and over the last 12
:24:57. > :24:59.months they've improved enormously. Luther Burrell is a good player in
:25:00. > :25:02.midfield. They have players to come back. They have more depth. They
:25:03. > :25:08.have a lot more rugby players than us and more depth. What is
:25:09. > :25:13.impressive with England they beat Ireland under pressure on the set
:25:14. > :25:18.piece. We scrummaged strongly but not smartly. They were winning
:25:19. > :25:22.better. And let's face it, in the autumn
:25:23. > :25:27.they were 15 minutes away from beating the All Blacks. Had it not
:25:28. > :25:31.been for a little bit of brilliance they might have beaten them? Since
:25:32. > :25:35.last year's defeat from Wales, they have been consistent, in their tempo
:25:36. > :25:38.and in the way they have played. People will find it difficult,
:25:39. > :25:42.teams, to play against them because they are difficult. They don't have
:25:43. > :25:46.the struck true we play to. They hit midfield and when they hit midfield,
:25:47. > :25:51.then the ball plays in. Have a look at which way to go. The fullback
:25:52. > :25:56.stand-off comes in and says - look, you have a prop in there and they
:25:57. > :26:01.attack. Also, they have got, very, very athletic second-rowers. Those
:26:02. > :26:06.two today were phenomenal. You rated them. The second row is withdrew win
:26:07. > :26:10.games and number 10 decides what the score is going to be as Gareth
:26:11. > :26:14.rightly says, you know. I think the selection policy at England has been
:26:15. > :26:19.consistent. They haven't suffered too much from injuries and likewise
:26:20. > :26:24.they have got two excellent second rows. And at least they have found
:26:25. > :26:27.Courtney Lawes and given him a bit of time. Thank you very much. #we8
:26:28. > :26:33.#' talk about Wales he v Scotland later. Wales' under-20s and Wales
:26:34. > :26:53.Women both in action this weekend. #12k3w4r in the second half, a
:26:54. > :26:57.breakaway from Kibirigy knocked more wind out of Wales' sails. There were
:26:58. > :27:01.breakaway from Kibirigy knocked more no let-up as the home side added
:27:02. > :27:05.four more tries. Gus Jones led the scoring charts with four of
:27:06. > :27:09.England's 10 on what was a miserable evening for Wales.
:27:10. > :27:12.Despite that impressive victory, the Championship is still out of
:27:13. > :27:18.England's hands and it could be a Grand Slam for France having so far
:27:19. > :27:22.won all of their four games: Wales Women were still seeking their
:27:23. > :27:26.first win of the Six Nations campaign, but despite initially
:27:27. > :27:31.enjoying the greater possession, England eventually cut loose to
:27:32. > :27:36.torment Wales with their lethal finishing, Emily Scarratt scuttling
:27:37. > :27:40.over for the first of two tries in the 23rd minute.
:27:41. > :27:44.Five tries in total wane Scarratt scoring 20 points for England, it
:27:45. > :27:48.was the fourth defeat in four games for Wales. So, England keep the
:27:49. > :27:54.pressure on France, the favourite and it is between Scotland and Wales
:27:55. > :27:59.for the Wooden Spoon. Well, it has been a pretty miserable
:28:00. > :28:03.weekend. Back to the RBS Six Nations. Ireland and France. Both in
:28:04. > :28:06.with a chance of winning the title, along with England, after wins in
:28:07. > :28:24.Dublin and Edinburgh. Sexton, O'Driscoll, Sexton on the
:28:25. > :28:31.loose. Sturdy Sexton. The Leinster parter inship works. O'Driscoll and
:28:32. > :28:34.Sexton try. -- partnership. Luke McLean, a
:28:35. > :28:47.chance here. He was smashed in the tackle by
:28:48. > :28:50.Andrew truly trim. Oh, Subtle for the line. Oh, one try for Ireland
:28:51. > :29:03.and now one for Italy. Some interference from the medics.
:29:04. > :29:12.Not quite. Andrew Trimble. Yes, Ireland's second try. O'Driscoll
:29:13. > :29:17.again. A great off-load. Rob Kearney. To Johnny Sexton. Oh, a
:29:18. > :29:24.sweet try. MacFadden against the prop.
:29:25. > :29:45.MacFadden scores. Scotland are making a little bit of
:29:46. > :29:51.ground. A lovely little opener. He goes for the corner. Wonderful
:29:52. > :29:58.hands, a wonderful pass. A glorious try for Tommy Seemore.
:29:59. > :30:03.Scotland in now with a chance with the ball. The men out wide.
:30:04. > :30:08.Interception and it maybe a try for Yoann Huget. He is galloping down
:30:09. > :30:12.the pitch. He is in. Yoann Huget will go the length of the park to
:30:13. > :30:19.score. A try for France.
:30:20. > :30:24.The replacement scrum-half looks again. Carried on now. Turnover
:30:25. > :30:46.ball. A penalty to France. So Ireland, England and France all
:30:47. > :30:55.locked on significance points. Ireland have the edge because of
:30:56. > :31:00.points. England beat Italy and Ireland loose, then stew the a
:31:01. > :31:07.Lancaster's men will take the title. But for you, Gareth, ing given the
:31:08. > :31:12.mazing atmosphere yesterday, it is for Ireland's to lose.
:31:13. > :31:17.I cannot see how France can win it. If they do, I'm giving up, I said.
:31:18. > :31:21.But, they are an enigma. You don't know what they are going to do but
:31:22. > :31:24.they are awful. They shouldn't be in with a sniff of winning the
:31:25. > :31:30.Championship but they are. What a story. What an incredible tale, if
:31:31. > :31:34.Brian O'Driscoll wins it in his final game. They are capable. They
:31:35. > :31:38.have been the best side overall. I think. As good as England R as we
:31:39. > :31:44.said, France are poor. They were poor against Wales. They were worse
:31:45. > :31:49.yesterday. I think Philippe Saint-Andre has real problems. Why
:31:50. > :31:53.they persevere with some of the players, I don't noe. They are not
:31:54. > :31:57.playing with French flair. They are playing a fairly organised. Well it
:31:58. > :32:01.is suppose #d to be structured but I can't see a the pa earn. I think
:32:02. > :32:04.Ireland will go there. They have everything to go for now and for
:32:05. > :32:09.Brian O'Driscoll obviously a great swansong. And what did you make of
:32:10. > :32:12.that emotional farewell yesterday in Dublin? Oh, he is just, you know, an
:32:13. > :32:19.absolute legend. Dublin? Oh, he is just, you know, an
:32:20. > :32:23.just incredible. You know, he's done it all. You know, he is great with
:32:24. > :32:27.the ball. He is great without it. You know, he causes a lot of
:32:28. > :32:33.turnovers. It takes it in. You know, he kicks if you want to. He is a
:32:34. > :32:37.kicking option.er he has adapted his ga. When he started he was sleight.
:32:38. > :32:44.He scored a hat-trick against France. As it evolved, he put weight
:32:45. > :32:49.on. He coped. He had an injury for the Lions and went back. And the
:32:50. > :32:53.day, just before the last Test for the Lions last year I had to
:32:54. > :32:59.interview him because he had been dropped. The measure of the man, he
:33:00. > :33:03.got up and spoke eloquently. He was bitterly disappointed but was very
:33:04. > :33:07.supportive. He is a top, top bloke. For me, I agree with Rob, Ireland
:33:08. > :33:12.have been the best side but England have pushed them but for me it would
:33:13. > :33:17.be, you know, great if I could see Brian O'Driscoll going out as the
:33:18. > :33:21.champion. Absolutely. And Lyn, there aren't many sportsmen, whichever
:33:22. > :33:24.sport you look at, in the world, where you are widely acknowledged to
:33:25. > :33:29.be the best in your field. That's what Brian O'Driscoll is. You ask
:33:30. > :33:34.any rugby follower, they have a lot of praise for him? You can't
:33:35. > :33:38.disagree with any of that. As a real rugby enthusiast. I enjoyed his play
:33:39. > :33:42.over the years much it is inventive. Good thinking from him on every
:33:43. > :33:46.aspect. He is up there with Gareth Edwards as the best player either it
:33:47. > :33:50.play in the Six Nations or the Five Nations as it was before, without
:33:51. > :33:55.doubt. He is fantastic. Well-said. So, for the first time since 2010,
:33:56. > :33:58.Wales are involved in a dead rubber next Saturday against Scotland. Sean
:33:59. > :34:03.holly, sell it to us. next Saturday against Scotland. Sean
:34:04. > :34:07.-- Sean Holley Warren Gatland will not want it take his team on a
:34:08. > :34:13.summer tour on the back of a loss. If you look at it, it is not a happy
:34:14. > :34:17.hunting ground for the Scots. Will Scott Johnson factdor? Under
:34:18. > :34:21.pressure. Only won five of 15 in charge. There is a lot of pressure
:34:22. > :34:30.on Scott Johnson but they know how to break down. Look out for strong
:34:31. > :34:32.centres looking to block the Welsh midfield and bring in their wing
:34:33. > :34:36.runners. This is something they will look to do. I like this boy Hogg
:34:37. > :34:41.when he comes N you find him coming in at 10 channel. Will he look to
:34:42. > :34:48.put the ball in the air and behind Wales and exploit the blitz. If they
:34:49. > :34:55.go toe-to-toe with this fellow, which was poor then this guy has the
:34:56. > :35:01.boot. He can do it. The wingers come in, he is inventive and sharp. As
:35:02. > :35:05.you see here, very creative. Giving a nice pass for one of the two
:35:06. > :35:08.tries. They are still suspect in their defensive system. Some are
:35:09. > :35:13.drifting, some shooting out of the line, Sean Lamont. Jumping out of
:35:14. > :35:17.the line against Italy. Noor terms of numbers in organisation on drift.
:35:18. > :35:24.Wales score on average, three tries a game against Scotland. Does Warren
:35:25. > :35:30.Gatland change his team? Is this the time to bring a few new faces in? It
:35:31. > :35:34.is easy on the back of a performance to point of the finger at players
:35:35. > :35:37.and call for change. History has gone, we can't win the Championship,
:35:38. > :35:41.so there is an opportunity to look at other players. I think we have to
:35:42. > :35:44.realise that we will not solve some of the problems by team selection.
:35:45. > :35:47.We have to change what we are doing. And, we have talked about
:35:48. > :35:49.We have to change what we are doing. James, Dan Biggar, there are
:35:50. > :35:50.We have to change what we are doing. who will come into the equation.
:35:51. > :35:53.We have to change what we are doing. Maybe they will bring a new energy
:35:54. > :35:58.into the team but we've still got to look at the way we are playing the
:35:59. > :36:02.game if we are really going to improve and compete in the World Cup
:36:03. > :36:07.and in the southern hems spheres. Rob, what will you do next Saturday?
:36:08. > :36:12.I think he will make some changes. Leigh Halfpenny is out. I think he
:36:13. > :36:16.will slot Liam Williams into that fullback position. I just hope as
:36:17. > :36:20.Gareth said, we tinker with the way we play. We have to be more
:36:21. > :36:28.creative. Our kicking game has to improve enormously, I think, in
:36:29. > :36:33.order that we can compete te. I think there will be a couple of
:36:34. > :36:40.changes. Interesting who he will pick at nine. I'm assuming Rhys Webb
:36:41. > :36:44.will be out. It is the measure of success that Warren Gatland and we
:36:45. > :36:47.have enjoyed and he has had over the last couple of years that it is the
:36:48. > :36:51.first time in four years, where we are going into a final Saturday
:36:52. > :37:00.where there is no hope of winning the title. Yeah, and on the back of
:37:01. > :37:03.poor form against Ireland and I thought enlads play exceptionally
:37:04. > :37:06.well today. It wasn't our day and we were totally outplayed. It is a
:37:07. > :37:10.difficult call. I don't think he will make wholesale changes, because
:37:11. > :37:14.it is very difficult in a short turn around. It is a Sunday, we are
:37:15. > :37:17.playing a Saturday. A short turn around, to get people gelling
:37:18. > :37:20.together. If he makes changes, it will be people from within a squad
:37:21. > :37:26.already. There is no-one from the outside. I don't think he will make
:37:27. > :37:33.many, many changes. As Gareth said, whether they change tactically a
:37:34. > :37:37.little bit but they will know the way that Wales play and Scotland are
:37:38. > :37:40.little bit but they will know the solid. They are solid at the scrum.
:37:41. > :37:42.They are solid at the line you. Defensively they are good and new
:37:43. > :37:46.they are getting a bit more confidence. How they lost yesterday,
:37:47. > :37:51.I still don't know, you know. It was a dreaded mis-pass again when they
:37:52. > :37:57.had that three-man overlap and the Frenchman intercepted. That's how
:37:58. > :38:00.they lost. They are they will be coming very confident down to
:38:01. > :38:04.Cardiff because they played well. Team selection will be interesting.
:38:05. > :38:07.And team selection doesn't help changing game plans. It is about
:38:08. > :38:11.recovery and building confidence and hoping that you can play a little
:38:12. > :38:16.bit better next week. I'd like to think that there is a
:38:17. > :38:20.scrum-half down at the Scarlets who will be given an opportunity to show
:38:21. > :38:23.what he can do. They have good scrum-halves down there. It'll be
:38:24. > :38:26.nice to see what they can offer. Wales need an attacking game off
:38:27. > :38:32.nine. It is an international match. You
:38:33. > :38:36.have. It is about winning. Scott Johnson said they want to win
:38:37. > :38:42.pretty. If I was Scott Johnson I would try to win first. Yes. Hang
:38:43. > :38:47.on, calm down a bit. Lets anticipate win first and win pretty afterwards.
:38:48. > :38:52.O they haven't got creative halfbacks. They have up and down
:38:53. > :38:58.players in midfield. A little bit of talent. If we win the kicking game
:38:59. > :39:02.next week, I don't think Scotland will score from distance. To get it
:39:03. > :39:07.back on track they have to work on it. Let's get the coaches' view.
:39:08. > :39:11.What do you do? Tinker with selection? Some selections are
:39:12. > :39:16.enforcedual esure Charteris will come back and Liam Williams will
:39:17. > :39:19.start. Leigh is a big loss for our kicking game. So somewhere along the
:39:20. > :39:25.line there has to be a good kicker selected somewhere in there. You
:39:26. > :39:30.know, am the improvements in the game, I thought our blitz defence
:39:31. > :39:33.was up and stop. We he had into the confidence to follow right through
:39:34. > :39:37.on what we are trying to do. It was good against France but today we
:39:38. > :39:41.were but today we were stopping as if we were scared of what was in
:39:42. > :39:48.front of us. England are a very, very good side. We didn't play well
:39:49. > :39:52.and we lost by 11 where seven was a disaster in the fourth minute. We
:39:53. > :39:58.are not a million miles away. At the end of the day I think our skill
:39:59. > :40:02.levels were off today. If you pick better players who don't make as
:40:03. > :40:05.many errors, you play better. I think the props will be an
:40:06. > :40:08.interesting selection. Will he give the youngsters an opportunity? But
:40:09. > :40:13.then again, you don't want to weaken the platform. Will he pick Tipuric
:40:14. > :40:17.and Warburton and maybe bring the two wings into the game a bit more
:40:18. > :40:23.by carrying the ball. Those are the questions. Fullback, you know, Liam,
:40:24. > :40:29.I know he picks at 10 He was alluding to change in his post-match
:40:30. > :40:33.discussion. You know, it will be interest. You can't make too many
:40:34. > :40:39.changes. He needs to win, unless he feels that he is in a strong enough
:40:40. > :40:44.position to be able to... It is fine us picking a stand-off who is going
:40:45. > :40:48.to tinker with the props and they'll figure a bit because the stand-off
:40:49. > :40:53.will be uneffective. Join me in thanking our guests.
:40:54. > :40:57.We were hoping that Wales would be going for a third consecutive Six
:40:58. > :41:00.Nations title but they had a very bad day at the office. From all of
:41:01. > :41:07.us here, nos da.
