0:08:46 > 0:08:54Throughout these Rugby World Cup specials, Bruno Williams will be

0:08:54 > 0:09:02analysing every Wales game for us. Last week, I mentioned that the

0:09:02 > 0:09:06most important that was the scoreboard. Box ticked off. We won

0:09:06 > 0:09:10their game. We beat one of the most aggressive rugby teams in the world,

0:09:10 > 0:09:20a team that beat Australia only a month ago. Let's look at why.

0:09:20 > 0:09:24

0:09:24 > 0:09:29Impressive statistics. Those are phenomenal figures. Lost possession

0:09:29 > 0:09:33is the frustration for Warren Gatland. 29 times, not good enough.

0:09:33 > 0:09:41That has to be improved. I wish there was a stat for the pressure

0:09:41 > 0:09:45the team was under. It was immense. So we have to say well done, lads.

0:09:45 > 0:09:50Yes, very much so. Everyone in the club tonight would endorse those

0:09:50 > 0:10:00words. But a contrasting performance to last week. It was.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02

0:10:02 > 0:10:08Before last week, their average performance against Samoa was like

0:10:08 > 0:10:12that. A win was the most important thing. It is another box ticked.

0:10:12 > 0:10:18Will the boys be concerned that there were a few errors? There were

0:10:18 > 0:10:27signs of Wales of old, lots of penalties conceded. The set-piece

0:10:27 > 0:10:37was not great. I really enjoyed it seeing Jamie playing very well. His

0:10:37 > 0:10:38

0:10:38 > 0:10:46depth was very good. It showed in his first touch of the ball. He is

0:10:46 > 0:10:53not a small guy either. The breakdown was a bit of a mess. But

0:10:53 > 0:10:58we won it. Took 70 minutes until my heart stopped beating so fast. But

0:10:58 > 0:11:04it was good. John often, it was nail-biting stuff. What did you

0:11:04 > 0:11:10make of Wales'' tactics? I felt they should have kicked a bit more.

0:11:10 > 0:11:20We had no field position. We could have worked them over on their

0:11:20 > 0:11:20

0:11:20 > 0:11:27fitness. That full-back had no intention of kicking. The chase was

0:11:27 > 0:11:32not very good. There was a great kick into the left-hand corner. But

0:11:32 > 0:11:40the chase was very poor. They were not going to go the length against

0:11:40 > 0:11:48us. If you pay a -- play against the islanders, when they are in

0:11:48 > 0:11:53your own 22, they go for a try. We were slightly naive. With James

0:11:53 > 0:11:59Hook, I said last week that I do not like him playing full-back. We

0:12:00 > 0:12:04need a balanced back three. Leigh Halfpenny added that balance.

0:12:04 > 0:12:12Slightly disappointed with their tactics. We should have beaten

0:12:12 > 0:12:16South Africa and could have beaten Samoa by more points. Gareth, Leigh

0:12:16 > 0:12:20Halfpenny made a significant difference. But the Samoans have

0:12:20 > 0:12:27improved. But if there is one thing missing from that game, it is the

0:12:27 > 0:12:35overall 80 minute fitness? They are plain a structured game, which is

0:12:35 > 0:12:40alien in the South Pacific Basin. The Fijian game could be the one

0:12:40 > 0:12:46that trips of up, because they do not play that lovely sort of rugby.

0:12:46 > 0:12:50I was surprised at how strutted their game was, as if they believed

0:12:50 > 0:12:53they could wear us down. But there is a new found confidence in the

0:12:53 > 0:13:02Welsh defence. We still make mistakes, but not half as much as

0:13:02 > 0:13:11we have over the last few years. The boys looked very confident in

0:13:11 > 0:13:17stopping them from attacking too deep or around the fringes. When

0:13:17 > 0:13:27you have really got to win the match, that really can play a huge

0:13:27 > 0:13:35

0:13:35 > 0:13:39part. It is a test of character. Disappointing in many ways. They

0:13:39 > 0:13:45really did not offer too much. I thought it was one-dimensional. If

0:13:45 > 0:13:51the Welsh boys had believed, hey, let's move this a bit more, we

0:13:51 > 0:13:54could have scored more points. Josh, I am not sure if you are a

0:13:54 > 0:13:58fan of Twitter, but some of the Samoan fans have been moaning about

0:13:58 > 0:14:03playing two games in a week. Is it right but they played midweek and

0:14:03 > 0:14:13on Sunday? Her I am not a big fan of Twitter. Thank you for clearing

0:14:13 > 0:14:17

0:14:17 > 0:14:23that up! That is the reality of the tour. As a top-level sportsman, if

0:14:23 > 0:14:32you start making excuses after the performance, regardless of the

0:14:32 > 0:14:36details, you deal with the cards you are dealt. It will be

0:14:36 > 0:14:40interesting to hear the reaction in the world audience. To be a real

0:14:40 > 0:14:45world class team, you need to be able to be confident and win as

0:14:45 > 0:14:51favourites. For me, there has always been something about the

0:14:51 > 0:14:58Welsh team outside the Six Nations. When you play the South Africans

0:14:58 > 0:15:03etc, you need to be up to go in and do it properly. Again South Africa,

0:15:03 > 0:15:07the guys had nothing to lose. They played in liberator fashion and

0:15:07 > 0:15:17through the ball away almost with a carelessness. But as soon as you

0:15:17 > 0:15:23

0:15:23 > 0:15:27think, I have to win this, that is when the shutters come down. There

0:15:27 > 0:15:34are two different psyches. You plane not to lose, or you play to

0:15:34 > 0:15:38win. That is very different. If you play to win, you go out there and

0:15:38 > 0:15:45you are confident. If you play not to lose, you shut shop and you are

0:15:45 > 0:15:52not confident enough to run that game. For let's go to Lisa. He is

0:15:52 > 0:15:58in the club tonight? It is Wales and scullers full-back. How is the

0:15:58 > 0:16:06recovery going? A had a successful operation after the game.

0:16:06 > 0:16:13Everything is going well so far. When will you be able to start

0:16:13 > 0:16:20training again properly? Middle of November, I can start walking and

0:16:20 > 0:16:24jogging. Sir you cannot go on holiday and in the meantime? I am

0:16:24 > 0:16:28hoping to go to Dubai in December. Fingers crossed! Were did you think

0:16:28 > 0:16:32of the game today? It must be whole -- so hard for you at home,

0:16:32 > 0:16:42watching the boys. Wales will obviously be over the moon with the

0:16:42 > 0:16:48

0:16:48 > 0:16:53Thank you very much. England played this morning as well, and we have

0:16:53 > 0:17:00had some tweets Row Josh. Lee Jones would like to know, do England have

0:17:00 > 0:17:05enough creativity to go all the way? Do they need it is the answer.

0:17:05 > 0:17:11I would like to see the best rugby team win this tournament. Rugby

0:17:11 > 0:17:16needs it at a global level. If England or Wales do not win it, I

0:17:16 > 0:17:22would like to see New Zealand. The other day, South Africa were

0:17:22 > 0:17:31clearly the second best side when they played against Wales. So to

0:17:31 > 0:17:35answer that question, be they needed? Young's is the key to their

0:17:35 > 0:17:40success. When he plays, he throws the game out of the window and

0:17:40 > 0:17:43plays what is in front of him. These guys are so pre-planned and

0:17:43 > 0:17:47contrived these days. All the topsides are. Everyone knows each

0:17:47 > 0:17:52other's pattern inside out. It is that ability to play what is in

0:17:52 > 0:17:58front of you and do what the defence is not expecting, and

0:17:58 > 0:18:03youngs brings that enthusiasm. The key position to it is 12. We do not

0:18:03 > 0:18:13have a great number of twelves for England. We did not take the most

0:18:13 > 0:18:14

0:18:14 > 0:18:19creative 12, Riki Flutey. England go into a final shock? I hope so, I

0:18:19 > 0:18:26have money on it. While judges here, I want to ask him and all of you,

0:18:26 > 0:18:35the nightclub incident has not had a great build-up. Will it affect

0:18:35 > 0:18:45morale in the camp? I hope not. These things happen. Face it, we

0:18:45 > 0:18:49

0:18:49 > 0:18:54had a few incidents down here as well. We don't talk about them.

0:18:54 > 0:18:57Rugby players are rugby players. We are not angels. Clearly, there is a

0:18:57 > 0:19:02responsibility. You are a professional athlete and you are

0:19:02 > 0:19:06representing your country. But there is also a balance. John Owen

0:19:06 > 0:19:11spot-on with the way he managed this. These are adults and they

0:19:11 > 0:19:15have to make their own decisions. If they make silly decisions, they

0:19:15 > 0:19:19will reap the consequences. You have to be mature. But it is a

0:19:20 > 0:19:24mental way of switching off as well. You cannot control the reporting of

0:19:24 > 0:19:31the story. His tweeting and Facebook and all that. The national

0:19:31 > 0:19:40papers have picked on one individual. Has that been fared?

0:19:40 > 0:19:44They picked on him for one reason. The Welsh players are hopefully

0:19:44 > 0:19:50tucked up in bed now. But the pressure was mentioned. It is not

0:19:50 > 0:19:55only playing the game. The build-up, of the preparation, the training.

0:19:55 > 0:19:59You have got the release, and there has to be a balance. Martin Johnson

0:19:59 > 0:20:04has been brilliant. He said, we have had no complaints, and

0:20:04 > 0:20:12everyone is happy, move on. they have got to write about rugby

0:20:12 > 0:20:18for six weeks, every day. It must have been a godsend for them.

0:20:18 > 0:20:23there something you want to confess? Feel free. We will rip up

0:20:23 > 0:20:26the running order. Guys, thank you very much for now. More still to

0:20:26 > 0:20:32come. We will catch up with Eddie Butler and his road trip of New

0:20:32 > 0:20:39Zealand. I met a busload of Welsh supporters.

0:20:39 > 0:20:43We spent eight hours together. Their driver had talked to them

0:20:43 > 0:20:47non-stop about clematis and pies and ice-cream and the best thing

0:20:47 > 0:20:54about anything in New Zealand. They all stopped here and bought

0:20:54 > 0:20:58earplugs. More from Eddie and back to the Rugby World Cup in a moment

0:20:58 > 0:21:02after we round up at the latest pro club action.

0:21:02 > 0:21:12After last week's tragedy at Gleision Colliery, the Rugby World

0:21:12 > 0:21:18

0:21:18 > 0:21:22came together to pay its respects to the miners and their families.

0:21:22 > 0:21:26Two unbeaten sides met at Ravenhill on Friday, and it was the home side

0:21:26 > 0:21:36who came out on top, thanks to these two tries for Center Darren

0:21:36 > 0:21:37

0:21:37 > 0:21:47Cave. Lovely potter Gilroy. -- ball to Gilroy. Ulster have the first

0:21:47 > 0:21:49

0:21:49 > 0:21:56try. Lovely ball by Spence. This is a cave macro again. Goes low, goes

0:21:56 > 0:22:06early, slides to score. In Treviso, the us praise from behind to two

0:22:06 > 0:22:16

0:22:16 > 0:22:26Two tries either side of the break, however, saw the ospreys take the

0:22:26 > 0:22:26

0:22:26 > 0:22:30lead. Isaacs made the most of this chance. And Tom Smith powered over

0:22:30 > 0:22:38after 42 minutes to make it three from three now for Scott Johnson's

0:22:38 > 0:22:44side. The dragons were hoping for their first point of the season at

0:22:44 > 0:22:54a revamped parade, and had a great start, Tom Riley scoring after just

0:22:54 > 0:22:57

0:22:57 > 0:23:02five minutes. But it was to be a close-fought encounter. Five

0:23:02 > 0:23:09minutes later, Andrew Combes Perot I did his way to the line and the

0:23:09 > 0:23:14dragon has got their win and moved off the bottom of the table. Last

0:23:14 > 0:23:21week, the scarlet went down to Connaught and found Munster and

0:23:21 > 0:23:25equally tough nut to crack on Saturday. A try it on the half-hour

0:23:25 > 0:23:31extended Munster's lead. Replacement scrum half Duncan

0:23:31 > 0:23:41Williams made the game safe. And the bonus point came after 74

0:23:41 > 0:23:52

0:23:52 > 0:23:55You can see how the Blues get on next week on Scrum 5 Live on BBC 2

0:23:55 > 0:24:00Wales at 7.00pm. Let's get a New Zealand perspective

0:24:00 > 0:24:04of the tournament so far. Thanks. The result of the weekend has to be

0:24:04 > 0:24:07Ireland managing to beat Australia. Surprisingly, the All Blacks

0:24:07 > 0:24:10thrashed Japan. But next week they meet their World Cup nemesis,

0:24:11 > 0:24:19France. In a moment we're going to catch up with our New Zealand gu

0:24:19 > 0:24:27rue, but first, let's enjoy his cartoon take on it.

0:24:27 > 0:24:32# Rugby racing and beer # An international briefing on France,

0:24:32 > 0:24:37a brief but pretty accurate history. These buggers have been up to all

0:24:37 > 0:24:42sorts of things for quite awhile. A what are they into? Executions,

0:24:42 > 0:24:47perfume, snails and creme brulee. It's also worth noting style of

0:24:47 > 0:24:53play - well, the - um, observe - middle of the track. Let's look at

0:24:53 > 0:25:00what the French were doing, nine to ten. Ten was passed to 13, 13 to 15

0:25:00 > 0:25:05coming into the line, 15 to 14 back on the ankle, 14 to 11, 11 cuts 12,

0:25:05 > 0:25:1112 behind the back pop pass to seven. Someone loses a testicle.

0:25:11 > 0:25:16Ten calls his wife. 14 texts his girlfriend. 15 sends a text to 14's

0:25:16 > 0:25:21girlfriend. The French hooker scores. Let's see how the All

0:25:21 > 0:25:25Blacks would score. (Indiscernible) French and New

0:25:25 > 0:25:35Zealand - not built the same. # Rugby racing

0:25:35 > 0:25:35

0:25:35 > 0:25:39# Rugby racing and beer # Ladies and gents, give it up for --

0:25:39 > 0:25:43Jed. It's lovely to have you back. Tell me, what is it about the All

0:25:43 > 0:25:48Blacks and France when they meet in the World Cup?

0:25:48 > 0:25:51Well, they're so predictable, the French. You can't trust them.

0:25:51 > 0:25:55Obviously, after the rainbow warrior incident here, we just look

0:25:55 > 0:25:59at them and feel creepy about them now. And they have been blowing up

0:25:59 > 0:26:05bombs in the South Pacific since the '50s, so I would think when it

0:26:05 > 0:26:13comes to New Zealand over France, we certainly don't see eye to eye.

0:26:13 > 0:26:16We intend to disagree -- agree to disagree. If you block - you should

0:26:16 > 0:26:20be able to blow up Paris. That's what I like about you - you're so

0:26:20 > 0:26:25PC. Are you slightly nervous about the game? Am I slightly nervous

0:26:25 > 0:26:27about the game? No. That's why I have started drinking so early in

0:26:27 > 0:26:30the morning these days. LAUGHTER

0:26:30 > 0:26:35Now, what about that extraordinary result that Ireland had against

0:26:35 > 0:26:42Australia? Yeah, it lifted everybody's souls and hearts here.

0:26:42 > 0:26:46There was just grins and smiling and hugs and kisses, and every

0:26:46 > 0:26:51Irishman's night was that night on Sunday night. It was great to see

0:26:51 > 0:26:55those Aussies packed up and sent home, and, you know, the way that

0:26:55 > 0:26:58Australia reacted was beautiful. We give ourselves a hard time after

0:26:58 > 0:27:02losing the World Cup. These gries lost one game in the pool stages

0:27:02 > 0:27:08and you would think that someone had bored a hole in their country

0:27:08 > 0:27:13and water was getting in. You are as hilarious as ever. Let's

0:27:13 > 0:27:19hear it for Jed Thian. APPLAUSE

0:27:19 > 0:27:22What a guy! Right. Tom and Josh, let's start this chat about

0:27:22 > 0:27:26Ireland-Australia. I was flicking through a couple of Sunday

0:27:26 > 0:27:29newspapers online earlier in Ireland. They're describing it as

0:27:29 > 0:27:34their greatest sporting triumph ever. That might be a little bit

0:27:34 > 0:27:38over the top. I think that you saw the best of Ireland against England

0:27:38 > 0:27:43in the Six Nations. They've got a mental toughness about them. They

0:27:43 > 0:27:48have a lot of guys who have been together for a long, long time. You

0:27:48 > 0:27:52have a core of a side. You have an Irish side that's won the Heineken

0:27:53 > 0:27:56Cup for years now. They have that ability to play under pressure. In

0:27:56 > 0:27:59the pre-World Cup games they were awful. They lost all four. They

0:27:59 > 0:28:03were awful and didn't play well in many of them either, so the fact

0:28:03 > 0:28:06they have actually stepped up and delivered against a side which we

0:28:06 > 0:28:11know their front five is questionable doesn't surprise me.

0:28:11 > 0:28:19It may - obviously, New Zealand is jumping through the roof about it,

0:28:19 > 0:28:23but it was well deserved. I hope Ireland is a representative of

0:28:23 > 0:28:26these shores... Kicks it wide open. Brilliant. The two that will be

0:28:26 > 0:28:34rubbing their hands together are Ireland and Wales. Psychologically

0:28:34 > 0:28:37Wales should qualify, touch wood. Touch wood, nice. And they'll find

0:28:37 > 0:28:41Ireland psychologically a lot easier to beat than Australia.

0:28:41 > 0:28:46players do that? When you're on the way to the World Cup final in 2003,

0:28:46 > 0:28:50do you think, if they finish top, we'll play those guys? Or did

0:28:50 > 0:28:55Woodward just say, play one sport at a time, that sporting cliche?

0:28:55 > 0:28:58When we knew we had France in the semi-final, I can assure there were

0:28:58 > 0:29:01some smiles going around the place. Of course you do. It's interesting

0:29:01 > 0:29:04that result, because if you were the French coach, talking about the

0:29:04 > 0:29:08France-New Zealand game, do they really want to win that game?

0:29:08 > 0:29:13That's the question. Guys, are you looking forward to it, France

0:29:13 > 0:29:18against the all-blacks? Go on. I watched France today. I was very

0:29:18 > 0:29:21impressed with them, again, playing wonderful rugby in very difficult

0:29:21 > 0:29:25conditions. There is something - they very rarely like touring, the

0:29:25 > 0:29:28French, by and large, but they love going to New Zealand for whatever

0:29:28 > 0:29:32reason. And they have had a good record there. They're one of the

0:29:32 > 0:29:35few teams that have ever won in New Zealand, but taking the point Josh

0:29:35 > 0:29:41was on about, I am not so sure this pool game is something they really

0:29:41 > 0:29:44want to do. I think they just - not so much throw it - throw it in so

0:29:44 > 0:29:52much that they don't really care about it, but they want to play

0:29:52 > 0:29:56them in the semis. I know. In the final. Final. It's not knock-out

0:29:56 > 0:29:59yet for them. True. They're both going to cruise through it. As Josh

0:29:59 > 0:30:03said, then if they go to the northern hemisphere side of the

0:30:03 > 0:30:08draw, we have all beaten each other - England, Ireland and France and

0:30:08 > 0:30:11Wales, they are going, tell you what, we got a great crack here,

0:30:11 > 0:30:14whereas the belief of me being looking to play one of the southern

0:30:14 > 0:30:20hemispheres - they're not sure. They don't have to worry about that

0:30:20 > 0:30:24confidence of playing as favourites. Familiarity. Yeah. They'll all be a

0:30:24 > 0:30:27threat. Everyone will think that they can get to the final - every

0:30:27 > 0:30:34one of the home nations - maybe not Scotland because they have to play

0:30:34 > 0:30:37New Zealand in the other part of the draw, a tough draw. Chaps, for

0:30:37 > 0:30:47the moment, thank you very much indeed. It's Namibia next. Here's

0:30:47 > 0:30:58

0:30:58 > 0:31:04Rick O'Shea with his guide on Namibia, an old Dutch-German colony,

0:31:04 > 0:31:12formerly known as south-west Africa, has a population of 1.8 million and

0:31:12 > 0:31:18a playing population of 5,800. Its famous sons include the sprinter

0:31:18 > 0:31:22Frankie Fredricks and the old black and amber boy Percy Montgomery. In

0:31:22 > 0:31:261990, Namibia was granted independence of South Africa and

0:31:26 > 0:31:32played a two Test series against Wales, but because of the unique

0:31:32 > 0:31:36way in which the BBC is funded, I haven't come to Namibia to film

0:31:36 > 0:31:40this report. I have come to a mountain just outside Cardiff to

0:31:40 > 0:31:43meet a man that's played in all three tests that Wales have played

0:31:43 > 0:31:49against Namibia. Mike, lovely to see you up here. Thank you very

0:31:49 > 0:31:54much. You've got experience against Namibia, three Tests against

0:31:54 > 0:31:59Namibia. Three tests against Namibia, all way down in south-west

0:31:59 > 0:32:08Africa. Three out of three wins. That was enjoyable, but a long time

0:32:08 > 0:32:16ago. What were they like back then? Looking back - looking at them now,

0:32:16 > 0:32:21they're Africans. They have presence. Tell me - take us back

0:32:21 > 0:32:26into time. It was 1990, was it? Were they tasty affairs? Wasn't

0:32:26 > 0:32:31there a sending-off? Yes. I think at the time the yellow cards had

0:32:31 > 0:32:35just come out, and I'm not proud of it, but I think I was one of the

0:32:35 > 0:32:39first international player to ever receive a yellow card. I had a bit

0:32:39 > 0:32:42of a tangle with my opposite number. You know what it's like to play

0:32:42 > 0:32:48against sides that are deemed to be a lesser force. I mean, I'd hate to

0:32:48 > 0:32:52bring it up, but you were there in '91 when we lost to Samoa. Thank

0:32:52 > 0:32:56you, Rick. But it is... I know. Mentally, you've got to be in the

0:32:56 > 0:33:03right place. Going into the game against Namibia, can we stick with

0:33:03 > 0:33:06the teams that have done well so far? Have we got the depth or are

0:33:06 > 0:33:16Namibia maybe not the team to do that against? Not too many changes,

0:33:16 > 0:33:20but I think we've got to bring - we have two bigger games, more

0:33:20 > 0:33:24physical than this Namibia game. We have to make one or two changes,

0:33:24 > 0:33:30but we have to keep that... It's a difficult balance. It's a balance.

0:33:30 > 0:33:35Cards on the table, then - who is going do win? Wales definitely. May

0:33:35 > 0:33:40give a show-in, but Wales will be prepared and too strong for them up

0:33:40 > 0:33:44front, and I think the pace behind. They do the 80 minutes now. They

0:33:44 > 0:33:49used to start well for 60. As we saw in the last 20, we have seen

0:33:49 > 0:33:53them lose their way a bit. I think we have gotten over that for the

0:33:53 > 0:33:59first 20 minutes and can compete for the 80. That's how prepared we

0:33:59 > 0:34:02are. We go back into Africa. Namibia are up next. Bring it on.

0:34:02 > 0:34:09Rick O'Shea reporting from the great plains of north Cardiff. Now,

0:34:09 > 0:34:13with his look ahead to Wales V Namibia, here's our reporter.

0:34:13 > 0:34:16Looking at the next hurdle, I believe it's inevitable there will

0:34:16 > 0:34:20be changes for the next game. Key players need to be rested. There

0:34:20 > 0:34:23are lots of players that want to play the part. I believe they

0:34:23 > 0:34:26should be given that opportunity. This is the 15 I think Warren

0:34:26 > 0:34:31Gatland will announce later in the week. Let's look at the backs first,

0:34:31 > 0:34:38accepting, of course, they're free of injury. Byrne has to be tested,

0:34:38 > 0:34:48no point in taking him unless he plays. Hook at centre, I believe he

0:34:48 > 0:34:54

0:34:54 > 0:34:59can help Jones. The territorial Tavis Kno ylecomes in at nine.

0:34:59 > 0:35:05Let's look at the pack, very experienced. They're very athletic,

0:35:05 > 0:35:10need to get around the field a great deal - will create problems

0:35:10 > 0:35:13for us. Ryan Jones coming in off injury. He has a big part to play.

0:35:13 > 0:35:16Wish we had more carriers in the pack. That's a fundamental weakness

0:35:16 > 0:35:23I think, but still, an experienced pack that should do very well

0:35:23 > 0:35:27I suppose, Tom, there is a temptation, isn't there, for my

0:35:27 > 0:35:31coach - if you have the squad, use it? Yeah, I think they've got to. I

0:35:31 > 0:35:33think he's right, you have to rest your key players. Scott Williams

0:35:33 > 0:35:38should play. Jamie should probably have a rest. He's played

0:35:38 > 0:35:43brilliantly the last two games, Stephen Jones back fit. He needs a

0:35:43 > 0:35:47crack at ten, and Lee Byrne as well - Hook, we don't know his injury,

0:35:47 > 0:35:52how long he's going to be out. We need to start looking at fullback

0:35:52 > 0:35:57options, whether Halfpenny plays 15 or Byrne. It's interesting. In the

0:35:57 > 0:36:01pack as well I think maybe War Burton could do with a rest. He's

0:36:01 > 0:36:06played two very physical games, and Jones back fit. We know we need to

0:36:06 > 0:36:08see him back on the field, so plenty to do. It's a good game

0:36:08 > 0:36:12coming up, Namibia because they should easily win that, I think,

0:36:12 > 0:36:17and they can make a few changes to see what players' form is like. So

0:36:17 > 0:36:21if people come through that, then they have a selection of issues for

0:36:21 > 0:36:25Fiji. Jonathan, other teams have been tinkering with their squads.

0:36:25 > 0:36:28Is it time for Warren Gatland to do the same? I wouldn't. I would pick

0:36:28 > 0:36:32my strongest team. I think the work-up comes around every four

0:36:32 > 0:36:38years. We haven't played that well. We haven't worked the combinations

0:36:38 > 0:36:42out. Lee Halfpenny come on today. John Davis hasn't really performed.

0:36:42 > 0:36:46We haven't really built anything and gone through the phases, so

0:36:46 > 0:36:51really I think we haven't really clicked yet, so Namibia is a great

0:36:51 > 0:36:56opportunity to put all the best team in - of course, the injuries -

0:36:56 > 0:37:00the strongest available team, and then because, as Josh said, I think

0:37:00 > 0:37:05Fiji - the first 20 minutes against Africa they were very, very good.

0:37:05 > 0:37:09Once they went about 14 points behind, they were out of it, and

0:37:09 > 0:37:12South Africa ran away with it. Every time we tinker and make

0:37:12 > 0:37:17changes, we lose that kind of continuity, and we always struggle,

0:37:17 > 0:37:22and I don't think it's the time to struggle now. I think we build it.

0:37:22 > 0:37:25We really go out, smash Namibia, get confidence... Score points.

0:37:25 > 0:37:28Fiji away, then go to Ireland. That's my view, but people are

0:37:28 > 0:37:31different. If you're good enough, you play in the team. If you're not

0:37:31 > 0:37:36good enough, unfortunately, you might not get in the game - the

0:37:36 > 0:37:40World Cup. But that's sport. That's life. The only issue I have is Fiji

0:37:40 > 0:37:44is going to be so physical. That's why I think some of the key players

0:37:44 > 0:37:48need to be rested. Having said that Jonathan has a great point, but the

0:37:48 > 0:37:53thing is I suppose there are players in that squad, people like

0:37:53 > 0:37:59Jenkins and, as Tom says, Jones, who need game time. I disagree with

0:37:59 > 0:38:03what Jonathan is saying, but only - LAUGHTER

0:38:03 > 0:38:08I am a World Cup winner! I can understand the reasoning behind it,

0:38:08 > 0:38:13but let's not underestimate Namibia. I have respect for them because

0:38:13 > 0:38:17traditionally they used to be the old south-west Africa. During the

0:38:17 > 0:38:21time I was playing they were a lion's fixture. They were always in

0:38:21 > 0:38:26the semifinals of the Curry Cup. These guys will have the tradition

0:38:26 > 0:38:32and know the game. But they'll be more in the line of the South

0:38:32 > 0:38:35African type of play unlike the Fiji game that can be hard

0:38:35 > 0:38:40physically. We know how they play that. I think it's a great

0:38:40 > 0:38:45opportunity for the guys that have been training hard. I am not being

0:38:45 > 0:38:48sympathetic, saying play them. I don't want our main liners injured

0:38:49 > 0:38:54because Jamie Roberts has been bashing everybody for the last

0:38:54 > 0:39:04fortnight or so. I bet his body is crying out for a rest. One game a

0:39:04 > 0:39:06

0:39:06 > 0:39:09week? Then we have the quarter- You do not want to go into the

0:39:09 > 0:39:13knockout stages of a World Cup still chopping and changing. That

0:39:13 > 0:39:18is why France have not succeeded over the last few years. They have

0:39:18 > 0:39:25made big changes. Granted, if you have injuries, you have to rest

0:39:25 > 0:39:29your props. There are a couple of key guys who are picking up niggles.

0:39:29 > 0:39:39Maybe leave those out. You are talking about defence today for

0:39:39 > 0:39:42

0:39:42 > 0:39:48Wales. They used to say that attack wins tickets, defence wins

0:39:48 > 0:39:52championships. You do not want to tinker with the midfield. That is a

0:39:52 > 0:39:59no-brainer. You just want to get those combinations to give you

0:39:59 > 0:40:02confidence. They have not played a lot of rugby yet this year. If you

0:40:02 > 0:40:09pick up injuries, that is just the nature of it.

0:40:09 > 0:40:14Let's go to Lisa, who is with a massive rugby put -- van. He is the

0:40:14 > 0:40:22star of Gavin And Stacey, Steffan Rhodri. Did you get up and watch

0:40:22 > 0:40:29the game? I did. Before going to see my lad play, I watched it.

0:40:29 > 0:40:33you enjoy that more? Yeah, except they lost. Fingers crossed the rest

0:40:33 > 0:40:37of the World Cup goes better. Butler is covering the rugby World

0:40:37 > 0:40:47Cup. He is on a road trip of New Zealand. Let's find out what he has

0:40:47 > 0:40:52

0:40:52 > 0:40:59seen and where he has been. This is New Plymouth. I came here

0:40:59 > 0:41:03via wellington. And departures in the airport, I met the Welsh team.

0:41:03 > 0:41:08They were bruised, disappointed. There was Adam Jones, holding his

0:41:08 > 0:41:12lovely young baby. Jamie Roberts wondering down towards the plane.

0:41:12 > 0:41:17They were down. But there is a difference between disappointment

0:41:17 > 0:41:22and being beaten, and disappointment at not having beaten

0:41:22 > 0:41:26the world champions, if you see what I mean. Anyway, Wales have a

0:41:26 > 0:41:36steely determination about them. It was evident in the way they were

0:41:36 > 0:41:37

0:41:37 > 0:41:43moving. You could see that everything was far from over.

0:41:43 > 0:41:48It is Sunday. This is Hamilton. It is very quiet, but the Welsh are on

0:41:48 > 0:41:53their way. This is Warren Gatland's home region, which should give

0:41:53 > 0:41:58Wales a bit of support. But I am saying this before the game starts.

0:41:58 > 0:42:03This is New Zealand's second team, Samoa. They think after the All

0:42:03 > 0:42:07Blacks, we will support Samoa. So there are dangerous signs there.

0:42:07 > 0:42:17But after Ireland yesterday at Eden Park, everything is now possible.

0:42:17 > 0:42:22

0:42:22 > 0:42:28Good luck. Come on, Wales! It is 9 o'clock at night. I am in Hamilton

0:42:29 > 0:42:34hotel. I am staying with Samoans, which is a bit awkward, because we

0:42:35 > 0:42:40beat them. Wales marched on in the World Cup and Warren Gatland's

0:42:40 > 0:42:50career is still on course. But that was very close. I thought at one

0:42:50 > 0:42:51

0:42:51 > 0:42:54stage that we were not going to do it. I thought we did not be as good

0:42:55 > 0:43:02a scrummage as we ought to have done. But as Warren Gatland said

0:43:02 > 0:43:12afterwards, it was a day for the result and not the performance.

0:43:12 > 0:43:17

0:43:17 > 0:43:22Wales are still at the World Cup. Throughout the Rugby World Cup

0:43:22 > 0:43:26specials, we will be keeping a close eye on Russia, because one of

0:43:26 > 0:43:36Scrum V's regular pundits, Kingsley Jones, is also the technical

0:43:36 > 0:43:37

0:43:37 > 0:43:42director of Russian rugby, and he joins me now. Kingsley, good

0:43:42 > 0:43:49evening. You must be proud of your team's performance, very close

0:43:49 > 0:43:57against the Americans? Yeah, they tried hard to give everything. They

0:43:57 > 0:44:01improved in most areas defensively. But unfortunately, the lineout to

0:44:01 > 0:44:08let them down and we cough up the ball too many times at crucial

0:44:08 > 0:44:13times. You have a big test now against Italy on Tuesday.

0:44:13 > 0:44:23Yeah, Italy made a 13 changes. And the Russians do not like being

0:44:23 > 0:44:23

0:44:23 > 0:44:29disrespected. So they want to try and prove themselves. What did you

0:44:29 > 0:44:34make of Wales today? Did you see the game? Yeah, I watched it

0:44:34 > 0:44:39yesterday afternoon. I felt that Wales' performance was fantastic. I

0:44:39 > 0:44:44thought the second half, the only negative was the injuries. There

0:44:44 > 0:44:49are a lot of people down here who did not expect that. They thought

0:44:49 > 0:44:55Samoa were going to do it. To beat Samoa for the first time in a World

0:44:55 > 0:44:59Cup, Gethin Jenkins coming back was obviously a factor. And Ireland

0:44:59 > 0:45:09versus Australia, maybe more Wales will make the first time since 1987.

0:45:09 > 0:45:11

0:45:11 > 0:45:19I have just been practising my At I could not hear you!

0:45:19 > 0:45:22brilliant. Thank you very much. Very nice to see you.

0:45:22 > 0:45:26That was well done and cheers in Russian, if you were wondering.

0:45:26 > 0:45:36Let's show you how the pools look in this year's Rugby World Cup.

0:45:36 > 0:46:10

0:46:10 > 0:46:14In ball a, Vincent grab a hat-trick Jonathan, I don't want to be a doom

0:46:14 > 0:46:24merchant, but if Dan Lydiate is out of the tournament and as Tom says,

0:46:24 > 0:46:28

0:46:28 > 0:46:35Martyn Williams is injured, who goes out? You have got a few. But I

0:46:35 > 0:46:41just hope that Ryan Jones is fit. It might give a bit more time then.

0:46:41 > 0:46:47What about James Hook? It is a difficult one. We don't know the

0:46:47 > 0:46:51injury. It looked bad. When I first saw it, I thought oh, my God, he is

0:46:51 > 0:46:55gone. But we will have to wait and see. We could do with a good

0:46:55 > 0:47:04performance against Namibia from Lee Byrne. But I thought Leigh

0:47:04 > 0:47:09Halfpenny did very well. He got off the floor quick and adjusted his

0:47:09 > 0:47:16head guard. That was great, he adjusted it and kept running.

0:47:16 > 0:47:20Namibia will be a good test. There was an interesting comment from

0:47:20 > 0:47:24Jamie Roberts in a interview he did after today's game, where he said

0:47:24 > 0:47:28it was not a champagne performance, but all that mattered was getting

0:47:28 > 0:47:32the win. They will take so much out of this victory today, because that

0:47:32 > 0:47:37was a tough game. Are as we have discussed, it was all fought at

0:47:37 > 0:47:41close-quarters. Leigh Halfpenny was the only chance we had it in the

0:47:41 > 0:47:45second half, and he took it brilliantly. He could have been

0:47:45 > 0:47:49left there. He did well to escape from that first tackle. It shows

0:47:49 > 0:47:55his prowess. It was never going to be that tricky sort of game,

0:47:55 > 0:48:01because they were waiting to size us up and smash us down. It will

0:48:01 > 0:48:05have given us tremendous confidence. Let's not be sorry to be seeing the

0:48:05 > 0:48:10same tale once again. When you have to win, knowing that if you don't,

0:48:10 > 0:48:14you are going home, that takes a lot of pressure to live with. I

0:48:14 > 0:48:19take the point that Josh says, if you want to win, that is what you

0:48:19 > 0:48:25have to learn to do. It will have taken Wales a giant step forward.

0:48:25 > 0:48:34Can Wales get beyond the quarter- finals? Absolutely. They will be

0:48:34 > 0:48:39pleased with the result. The key thing for Wales is, they lost a lot

0:48:40 > 0:48:44of ball in the breakdowns. And the injuries, that is key. Thank you

0:48:44 > 0:48:49very much. Join me in thanking Jonathan Davies, Jonathan Edwards,
