:00:22. > :00:26.Europe's biggest and best rugby tournament is up and running and

:00:27. > :00:30.Wales have begun with a nerve shredding draw in Dublin. We have

:00:31. > :00:34.got a panel tonight full of players who know exactly how to win this

:00:35. > :00:43.tournament. Put your hands together for Jonathan Davies. Sir Gareth

:00:44. > :00:52.Edwards. Jonathan Thomas. And our star at the bar is Rhys Williams. We

:00:53. > :01:05.will also be catching up with Wales' women. Six Nations 2016 is underway.

:01:06. > :01:13.The start of the 2016 Six Nations. Conor Murray on his own! He is over!

:01:14. > :01:21.That is such a classy finish. Jack Nowell for the corner. What a try!

:01:22. > :01:24.Faletau comes away with it and scores. That is the end of it. It is

:01:25. > :01:40.a draw. Well, we have had a few hours to

:01:41. > :01:44.recover. That was tense, brutal, have you got any fingernails left? I

:01:45. > :01:49.have still got them. It was an intense game but I am slightly

:01:50. > :01:55.frustrated because Wales had an opportunity to win it. They went in

:01:56. > :02:00.front and then they had a drop goal. I think they may be more

:02:01. > :02:04.disappointed than Ireland. Do you agree with that, Gareth? Wales have

:02:05. > :02:09.left Dublin with a point but will they feel aggrieved they did not

:02:10. > :02:13.come away with a win? They could have, they had chances, but matches

:02:14. > :02:18.don't always go the way you wish them to go. By the end of the week,

:02:19. > :02:23.I think Wales will be happy they got a draw because they could easily

:02:24. > :02:26.have lost as well. Having said that, they got into a position towards the

:02:27. > :02:31.end of the match where I thought they would only be one winner.

:02:32. > :02:37.Kissing my sister is what Warren Gatland said after the draw. The one

:02:38. > :02:41.thing I took away, it was heart stopping and nail-biting but it was

:02:42. > :02:45.brutal as well. I did not think they could keep up that level of

:02:46. > :02:50.intensity. It is what we have come to expect from Wales against

:02:51. > :02:57.Ireland. The last few games have followed the same pattern. From both

:02:58. > :03:00.teams, I agree, Wales will be the most disappointed. Ireland are team

:03:01. > :03:05.in transition. They had a lot of injuries. And we are well balanced

:03:06. > :03:10.and well settled team with a lot of caps. The fact we have got three

:03:11. > :03:13.home games coming up, it was a really good opportunity to win the

:03:14. > :03:20.Grand Slam this year, but that has gone. Naturally, there is

:03:21. > :03:27.disappointment. You don't know what to think, do you? Let's watch it

:03:28. > :03:33.again. The final whistle did blow to three hours ago. Let's remind

:03:34. > :03:38.ourselves how it all unfolded. Wales went with two open sides,

:03:39. > :03:43.meaning a start for Justin Tipuric as Sam moves to number six. Tom

:03:44. > :03:46.James got his first cap since 2010 and there was a late call-up for

:03:47. > :03:52.Liam Williams in place of Gareth Anscombe. No Paul O'Connell for

:03:53. > :03:54.Ireland. Rory Best leading from the front. This Irish side was far from

:03:55. > :04:14.full strength. Sexton. These senses in combination

:04:15. > :04:16.-- centres in combination but Wales disrupt the move. But they are

:04:17. > :04:50.offside. Penalty against Jamie Roberts. Rory

:04:51. > :04:53.Best to Tommy O'Donnell. Luke Charteris holds him up for a moment.

:04:54. > :05:14.No advantage, penalty to Ireland. Two out of two for Jonny Sexton.

:05:15. > :05:15.6-0, Ireland league. The 22 for Wales. Rhys Priestland is on the

:05:16. > :05:28.touchline. Dan Biggar is coming off. O'Donnell with the line-out. Heaslip

:05:29. > :05:35.for the line. O'Donnell could not quite get there. It is all Ireland.

:05:36. > :05:44.They try again. They are over the line. Is it down?

:05:45. > :06:08.Conor Murray on his own! He is over and scores!

:06:09. > :06:13.Alun Wyn Jones of the top. Jonathan Davies in midfield. Priestland. Liam

:06:14. > :06:24.Williams. I think they are going to check the

:06:25. > :06:28.tackle. Keith Earls is probably a tad lucky to get away with that

:06:29. > :06:36.first action. A possible three points for Wales to get back in the

:06:37. > :06:38.game. Rhys Priestland. Sends it high and straight between the posts.

:06:39. > :06:52.Wales are on the board. Wales go again. Faletau comes away

:06:53. > :06:56.with it, reaches out and scores! Fantastic work by the Walsh number

:06:57. > :06:58.eight of the back of the scrum. He controlled it really well and before

:06:59. > :07:09.you knew it he was over the line. Penalty against Tommy O'Donnell.

:07:10. > :07:49.Rhys Priestland to level the scores. The tallest man in the Irish side,

:07:50. > :07:54.Devin Toner, CJ Stander. Wales claim the turnover.

:07:55. > :08:03.And it is going to be. Penalty advantage to Wales. Priestland. It

:08:04. > :08:09.is a great clearance by Rhys Priestland.

:08:10. > :08:17.A good pick-up by Jack McGrath. Conor Murray. Sexton on the wide

:08:18. > :08:21.loop. A brilliant break. Can they finish? Andrew Trimble. Tom James

:08:22. > :08:32.with the tackle! Ireland turn the ball over at last.

:08:33. > :08:38.Huge roar goes up at the Aviva Stadium. Wales disrupt and start the

:08:39. > :08:42.counter attack. Wales back in possession. And it is the penalty at

:08:43. > :08:53.last. This is for the lead. Rhys

:08:54. > :09:00.Priestland. That is a marvellous kick.

:09:01. > :09:07.New scrum half, Lloyd Williams. The man whose left boot delivered the

:09:08. > :09:16.kick that beat England. Not so good on that occasion.

:09:17. > :09:28.What a kick by Jonny Sexton. We are all square.

:09:29. > :09:37.So that was the match, this is the Verdict.

:09:38. > :09:41.We are a little bit flat at the moment. A disappointing first 20

:09:42. > :09:45.minutes and after that we got ourselves back into the game.

:09:46. > :09:51.Frustrated we got ourselves in front and then gave away a soft penalty

:09:52. > :09:55.with a bit of inaccuracy. We are probably a little bit unfortunate

:09:56. > :10:00.with the result. Wales probably had more of the ball and the field

:10:01. > :10:04.position. In the second half, turning 13-10, they would have felt

:10:05. > :10:11.confident because there was a breeze out there. Once they went 16-13

:10:12. > :10:16.ahead, we probably were fortunate. A win would have set us up nicely for

:10:17. > :10:21.this championship. If you want to win the Six Nations, you have got to

:10:22. > :10:25.get a big away scalp and we were hoping this was it, but Ireland have

:10:26. > :10:30.been champions the last two years, so a draw here is a good result from

:10:31. > :10:36.a neutral's perspective, but we are ambitious and want to win the title.

:10:37. > :10:40.Wales come and they are physical and you know you have got to front up

:10:41. > :10:45.and for the large part we did that. There are a lot of sore bodies in

:10:46. > :10:49.there. That red wave, when they get the ball, they keep coming at you.

:10:50. > :10:52.And when you have the ball you know you have to keep going at them

:10:53. > :11:00.because they have dangerous players like Sam and Justin in there. Yes,

:11:01. > :11:05.sore bodies. Perhaps on reflection a fair result for both teams. Apart

:11:06. > :11:09.from the weather conditions, we both tried to place in rugby, which was

:11:10. > :11:13.positive. I think Rory Best summed it up best.

:11:14. > :11:19.There will be lots of sore bodies tomorrow. It was a brutal match. No

:11:20. > :11:25.one typified that more than Jamie Roberts, who put a heck of a shift

:11:26. > :11:32.in today. Man of the Match for you? I think he was up there with Faletau

:11:33. > :11:37.and Stander, who got the Man of the Match. He had a word with Henshaw

:11:38. > :11:43.when he got up there as well. He carried the ball as well. A typical

:11:44. > :11:48.effort from Jamie, but I thought Faletau was immense as well, the way

:11:49. > :11:54.he took his try. But Jamie was up there as one of the candidates.

:11:55. > :11:59.Standout man for you, Gareth? I think everybody has said it already.

:12:00. > :12:03.Jamie Roberts was quite outstanding. Through defence. We are all looking

:12:04. > :12:08.for an attacking performance from Wales but we are talking about a

:12:09. > :12:14.centre having a great game as a defensive player. His tackling was

:12:15. > :12:18.immense. Thank God I am not playing the modern game! But fully deserved.

:12:19. > :12:22.We talk about the character shown by Wales and we have talked about this

:12:23. > :12:27.a lot over the years. You have been part of that squad and Warren

:12:28. > :12:31.Gatland but their heads never dipped, their composure did not

:12:32. > :12:37.desert them when they went 13-0 down. That is a hallmark of this

:12:38. > :12:42.side. Definitely. I think Warburton referenced it after the game. Two

:12:43. > :12:48.years ago they went down and they almost caved in. I think the site

:12:49. > :12:54.has progressed a lot and it is the DNA of the side. It is what we are

:12:55. > :12:59.always very proud of with this team, the defensive effort, the breakdown

:13:00. > :13:04.work, the line speed in defence. You can never questioned that about this

:13:05. > :13:09.team. One big positive was the scrum. They were eyebrows raised

:13:10. > :13:15.when Rob Evans was picked ahead of Gethin Jenkins. That is probably the

:13:16. > :13:18.special mention I would give. Along with Faletau and Jamie, this was a

:13:19. > :13:25.massive Test match for him, being picked in front of a 120 cap,

:13:26. > :13:29.three-time British Lion, and he has delivered. It is the best the Welsh

:13:30. > :13:35.scrum has been for some time. Taulupe Faletau, you mentioned him

:13:36. > :13:41.earlier. He does everything so good and does all the dirty work. He did

:13:42. > :13:45.a fantastic tackle on Zebo when they went outside and I think they lost

:13:46. > :13:50.control of the ball in the scrum. They could have gone for the penalty

:13:51. > :13:55.try. But it's squirted out and he had a lot to do and he finished it.

:13:56. > :13:59.He is just a great player. That is something you can pick out when he

:14:00. > :14:04.scores tries, but it is all the other work he does every other

:14:05. > :14:11.minute of the game. He has got great feat. When he is under pressure, he

:14:12. > :14:15.has got a friend, he has got the agility to get outside someone. I

:14:16. > :14:19.think he is the complete package. What about the back row balance? A

:14:20. > :14:30.round of applause for Taulupe Faletau. What about the balance of

:14:31. > :14:34.the back row today? Dan Lydiate, according to Warren Gatland, was fit

:14:35. > :14:40.and ready to start but he made the decision to go with Justin Tipuric.

:14:41. > :14:43.Was it a good balance today? I think it was the right decision because

:14:44. > :14:47.Warburton has not played much and Dan Lydiate has not played much so

:14:48. > :14:53.you would not go into a Test match with two guys who have not played

:14:54. > :14:58.much rugby. Justin Tipuric has been fantastic for two years. It was not

:14:59. > :15:03.a compromise. And it was one of those games where it was not the

:15:04. > :15:07.ideal game for Tipuric to come into his own in the wider channels and to

:15:08. > :15:13.show his ball-handling skills but he still showed very well. I think they

:15:14. > :15:19.targeted the ruck area. With two openside flanker is, they were only

:15:20. > :15:22.seven turnovers each side. I think Ireland did their homework. They

:15:23. > :15:27.held them up in the tackle but when they went to ground, they cleared

:15:28. > :15:32.out straightaway. It was very difficult for Tipuric or Warburton

:15:33. > :15:40.to get the turnovers because they were so precise in their cleaning

:15:41. > :15:44.out. On the edge, they cleaned out anyway, Ireland. CJ Stander looked

:15:45. > :15:50.good and they did not miss Peter O'Mahony and Sean O'Brien like they

:15:51. > :15:56.might have. I think he was probably, by default, through injuries, he has

:15:57. > :16:00.probably put his hand up to be there for the next ten years. The Irish

:16:01. > :16:06.teams are always blessed with a lot of talent but I agree with Jonathan,

:16:07. > :16:09.Ireland would have put so much emphasis on the breakdown because

:16:10. > :16:13.they knew Tipuric and Warburton would be playing and you could see

:16:14. > :16:19.in the first 20 minutes, they were blowing... They slowed a lot of ball

:16:20. > :16:24.down. I want to ask you about the tip tackle. Some outrage on social

:16:25. > :16:29.media he should have been yellow carded. What did you make of it? It

:16:30. > :16:35.could have changed the complexion of the game. I think he was somewhat

:16:36. > :16:40.unfortunate. When I saw him there, he reminds me of a salmon I once

:16:41. > :16:44.caught which I almost lost. Liam looked to be trying to get out of

:16:45. > :16:48.the tackle and I think the guided well but you can't drop people these

:16:49. > :16:55.days. To the letter of the law, it is a yellow card. But I thought that

:16:56. > :17:00.the referee did exceptionally well. You have got to take every tackle on

:17:01. > :17:05.its own merit. He slipped out, he did not control him going down, but

:17:06. > :17:09.Priestland goes for the intercept and how many times have we seen

:17:10. > :17:15.someone go for the intercept, yellow card. I think that is pathetic as

:17:16. > :17:20.well. I think he referee became sensibly with empathy towards the

:17:21. > :17:24.game and I thought, he could have given the yellow card, but it was

:17:25. > :17:28.the right decision. I am interested to get your thoughts on the Wales

:17:29. > :17:33.attack and what has changed. Use vote to Rob Howley last week about

:17:34. > :17:38.how it needs to evolve. What did you see that might encourage you? I

:17:39. > :17:43.think they are trying to get wide. This is one example of it. They have

:17:44. > :17:49.got to engage in that defender. I think that is Stander. If you look

:17:50. > :17:55.at what happens, the first two go through on a dummy and then Tipuric

:17:56. > :18:00.drops back outside the centre, outside Liam Williams. The three men

:18:01. > :18:04.they had as an overlap, none of them are used, and the guy they should

:18:05. > :18:08.have held up makes the tackle on Jonathan Davies. They are trying to

:18:09. > :18:13.play wide but they are not engaging the defenders. If the donor runner

:18:14. > :18:19.-- dummy runner is running, you have got to act as if you are a dummy

:18:20. > :18:23.runner, not just wander in front of someone. And I don't understand when

:18:24. > :18:28.you have got an extra man, white using as a decoy? I remember a try

:18:29. > :18:35.against Wales at the Millennium Stadium a few years ago, they were a

:18:36. > :18:40.fullback line of forwards and everyone of them handle the ball and

:18:41. > :18:44.put the winger in for a try. If they are trying to play that, they have

:18:45. > :18:50.got to engage defenders, otherwise they will drift and push you into

:18:51. > :18:55.touch. Unfortunately, we had 25 phases today and I am not sure if we

:18:56. > :18:59.looked like scoring. Sometimes you need someone to go like this and

:19:00. > :19:05.break the line and once you get behind the gain line, the defensive

:19:06. > :19:09.are slightly disorganised. Like Shane did now won again. Maybe

:19:10. > :19:13.Matthew Morgan on the bench to come on and do something. Once you break

:19:14. > :19:20.the line, you have got a chance of doing something. They are trying but

:19:21. > :19:25.they have got to be a bit sharper. I spoke to Gwyn Jones after the game.

:19:26. > :19:30.He was commentating in Dublin today. I asked him what Wales could have

:19:31. > :19:35.done differently. What we will do is look at the way we attack. We have

:19:36. > :19:40.got a very good scrum, the line-out was very good, so with a good set

:19:41. > :19:45.piece and the powerful middle of the field, two Lions, perhaps we did not

:19:46. > :19:51.play in a on the superiority we have there. I think perhaps we were

:19:52. > :19:56.trying to overplay a little bit. We were passing the ball a lot, long

:19:57. > :20:00.passes, and perhaps we are trying to develop a more open style but that

:20:01. > :20:04.does isolated out wide, especially if we are going to leave hawkers and

:20:05. > :20:09.second rows in wider channels. They have got to be as outer bull as

:20:10. > :20:14.people like Brodie Retallick and Dane Coles in open spaces. Those are

:20:15. > :20:19.skills that are going to take a long time to develop. But it is good to

:20:20. > :20:24.see that we are developing and evolving our style of play. Much was

:20:25. > :20:30.made before the game about the fact Wales were picking two genuine

:20:31. > :20:35.severance, two specialist open side. How did you see the breakdown today?

:20:36. > :20:40.We were on the back foot for a lot of the first half. They were

:20:41. > :20:44.recycling the ball very quickly. We were not quite as effective as we

:20:45. > :20:50.usually are in the tackle area. Sam Warburton 12 penalties. I am not

:20:51. > :20:56.sure Justin Tipuric one any. He is an attacking threat. I like the

:20:57. > :20:59.balance of a six and a seven. It would be harsh on Justin Tipuric to

:21:00. > :21:04.leave him out after one game but we want to see him with ball in hand at

:21:05. > :21:08.acting. And I don't think we see is the best of Sam Warburton when he is

:21:09. > :21:15.blind side. He is at his best when he is the first arrival at the

:21:16. > :21:18.tackle area. He wins penalties. But we have so many good players in that

:21:19. > :21:23.area it would be harsh to leave anyone out. I like a six and a

:21:24. > :21:28.seven. Thank you for your time and enjoy the Irish hospitality.

:21:29. > :21:32.One man who has got very fond memories of playing against Ireland

:21:33. > :21:34.in Dublin is our star at the bar. He made his step you against them in

:21:35. > :21:49.2000, Rhys Williams. As this is a milestone, we thought

:21:50. > :21:55.we would delve into the archives and remind ourselves of that day in

:21:56. > :22:01.2000. You were a little bit more freshfaced. What memories do you

:22:02. > :22:08.have of this day? Are they still vivid? Without a doubt. The best day

:22:09. > :22:12.in any rugby player's career is their first cap. Ireland can be a

:22:13. > :22:16.graveyard but we came away with a victory and I managed a couple of

:22:17. > :22:20.breaks as well. It is a day I will remember for ever. It was an

:22:21. > :22:24.interesting day for fullbacks today as well because Liam Williams had

:22:25. > :22:28.travelled as a reserve with the squad, he was thrust straight in

:22:29. > :22:34.after just 60 minutes of rugby. How would he have felt? I think it would

:22:35. > :22:38.just have been excitement. When you are thrown in that late in the day,

:22:39. > :22:41.they probably made the call last night, so we would have had the

:22:42. > :22:47.night to think about it, but you have got to go wholeheartedly. He is

:22:48. > :22:51.that type of player anyway. You saw out in Connacht, he wants to get his

:22:52. > :22:55.hands on the ball and make an impact. He made a couple of good

:22:56. > :22:59.runs, took a couple of high balls, but was not given enough space for

:23:00. > :23:04.us to see the dangerous runner he is. He was the top carrier and top

:23:05. > :23:10.in terms of meat is made with 95. Fair play to perform like that. As

:23:11. > :23:14.an attacking fullback yourself, would you prefer to see the ball in

:23:15. > :23:20.the hands of players like Liam Williams more often? Without a

:23:21. > :23:25.doubt. Perhaps in the backline today, we did not look as crisp and

:23:26. > :23:29.maybe as in packed full as we can. We took the ball quite deep and with

:23:30. > :23:33.the way Ireland defended, they drifted and in that case you have

:23:34. > :23:39.got to take the ball to the line little bit more. Those missed passes

:23:40. > :23:44.behind players really do not engage defenders so for your 15, 11 and 14

:23:45. > :23:50.to have some room, you have got to engage in sight defenders and get

:23:51. > :23:55.flat. Briefly, Rhys Priestland came on after 20 minutes. He was probably

:23:56. > :24:00.not expecting that. We thought he had retired for 18 months. I was

:24:01. > :24:04.really pleased for him. He would have been nervous coming on. I think

:24:05. > :24:10.a lot of Welsh supporters were nervous for him. But he had a great

:24:11. > :24:14.second half. Really pressure kicks and he nailed them. It will do him

:24:15. > :24:18.the world of good to have that performance under his belt because

:24:19. > :24:23.we may need him for the next few games. We don't know how Dan Biggar

:24:24. > :24:26.is. It is great for us and we need to have pressure on places for our

:24:27. > :24:31.team to do well throughout the tournament. We will catch up again

:24:32. > :24:35.before the end of the tournament. We will turn our attention now to

:24:36. > :24:39.yesterday's games and the new England era under Eddie Jones

:24:40. > :24:44.started with a trip north to face a resurgent Scotland.

:24:45. > :24:49.Scotland did not pick up a single point in last year's Six Nations and

:24:50. > :24:53.they had not scored a try against England at Murrayfield since 2014.

:24:54. > :25:00.And the spotlight was on another battle of sixes and sevens.

:25:01. > :25:04.Scotland's John Hardie and John Barclay against England's James

:25:05. > :25:08.Haskell and Chris Robshaw. And would-be home side tried to wind up

:25:09. > :25:16.the new skipper, Dylan Hartley? And would he bike?

:25:17. > :25:24.There is Nowell. Chipping and chasing himself. Stuart Hogg under

:25:25. > :25:30.pressure. It is a five metre scrum to England. Taken over.

:25:31. > :25:41.No quarter given by either side here. Danny Care complains. Billy

:25:42. > :25:49.Vunipola four meat is short. England still have it. Danny Care gives it

:25:50. > :25:53.to the big men. And Kruis gets over for the try. George Chris has scored

:25:54. > :26:03.for England! A big squeeze coming in from

:26:04. > :26:11.Scotland this time and trying to do something but Billy Vunipola just

:26:12. > :26:15.grabbed and went. The scrum is in a bit of bother. Joe Launchbury did

:26:16. > :26:19.well there as well. But Scotland have the penalty right in front of

:26:20. > :26:26.the posts. The decision of hanging onto the ball.

:26:27. > :26:33.Greig Laidlaw draws his side to within one point.

:26:34. > :26:42.No one is stood in the pocket at the moment. Nobody the drop goal yet.

:26:43. > :26:50.Not yet thinking of it. Giving it to forwards again. Richie Gray. He is

:26:51. > :26:51.there now. Drifting back for the drop goal for Finn Russell and it is

:26:52. > :27:03.wide. It is an ugly one. Scotland getting closer now. With

:27:04. > :27:10.every inch and yard made, the decibel level rises. Greig Laidlaw

:27:11. > :27:20.again digs and feeds Russell. Slammed back by Dan Cole and Kruis.

:27:21. > :27:25.They go again through Bennett. And a penalty in the end to England. Phase

:27:26. > :27:26.after phase. A shake of the head from Greig Laidlaw but well earned

:27:27. > :27:40.for the defence. Deep into the Scotland 22. James

:27:41. > :27:48.Haskell. Two men take him. Richie Gray grabs Chris Robshaw but England

:27:49. > :27:53.making ground. Out to Nowell and Jack Noble in the corner for the

:27:54. > :27:59.try! What a try for England! -- Jack Nowell.

:28:00. > :28:07.Brown kicks long. A little bit of space for Stuart Hogg. Tries to

:28:08. > :28:15.escape his way through. Loses it but it is a penalty to Scotland.

:28:16. > :28:31.And England still have it. How it will go from George Ford. England

:28:32. > :28:36.have won the Calcutta Cup once again.

:28:37. > :28:42.I always thought we were going to win the game. The only way we were

:28:43. > :28:46.not going to win the game was if we did something silly. We want to move

:28:47. > :28:50.the ball more. We have been practising that. That is pragmatic

:28:51. > :28:56.football. I think the game was there to be

:28:57. > :29:00.won. That is the hard fact of the situation. If we get ourselves in a

:29:01. > :29:04.similar situation, we have got to nail it.

:29:05. > :29:08.The Calcutta Cup is in England's Cabinet again and this is the start

:29:09. > :29:13.of a new dawn for England. He referred to it as a pragmatic

:29:14. > :29:18.performance. Were you impressed by what you saw? What is new? We have

:29:19. > :29:22.that every year from England. Having said that, they looked a bit more

:29:23. > :29:28.efficient. After the World Cup they looked in disarray. Unfortunately,

:29:29. > :29:33.they looked a bit as if they had worked a bit harder together, the

:29:34. > :29:37.forwards looked very effective and I like the runners behind. Not that

:29:38. > :29:42.they created a tremendous amount of openings. But they looked strong and

:29:43. > :29:46.as the season develops, they get to know one another, I think those

:29:47. > :29:48.English backs, especially Brown at fullback looking for work, could be

:29:49. > :29:57.very effective. Billy Vunipola, the official man of

:29:58. > :30:02.the match. He was sensational yesterday. Did he inspire England to

:30:03. > :30:05.that win? Definitely. With a number eight that can make yards in

:30:06. > :30:13.contact, it is impressive. He is a big man. Great footwork as well. He

:30:14. > :30:17.can off-load in the tackle. Defence is so tied in a modern game. With

:30:18. > :30:21.someone like that it is massive. You see that with New Zealand all the

:30:22. > :30:25.time with Kieran Read. It is it for the team if you go like that. He

:30:26. > :30:32.still has a Welsh accent. How did we let him slip away? Gutted. I spoke

:30:33. > :30:36.to Andy Nichol. For then the expectation was quite high, in

:30:37. > :30:43.Scotland. Quarterfinal in the World Cup. As the cover said, fibres

:30:44. > :30:47.before half-time and after half-time, they had pressure and did

:30:48. > :30:53.not turn it into points. They missed a kick and drop goal. They had a

:30:54. > :31:01.couple of chances. If you look at the second try, it was very well

:31:02. > :31:05.worked by England. They went through a couple of forwards and scored the

:31:06. > :31:08.try. They had to cut the mistakes out and if they do, they are going

:31:09. > :31:14.to be very dangerous. You cannot underestimate them. That is just

:31:15. > :31:22.walking through defence. This is lovely hands. He comes in and leaves

:31:23. > :31:25.a winner. Your winger, leaving the covering defenders and taking the

:31:26. > :31:30.inside man. It is easier getting the inside man with the winger. If they

:31:31. > :31:36.cut those mistakes out they have the ability to trouble teams. Scotland,

:31:37. > :31:40.they said it was the toughest game they played in the World Cup. If

:31:41. > :31:42.they cut out those mistakes and keep that pressure and turn it into

:31:43. > :31:48.points they will be difficult to beat. It is disappointment they did

:31:49. > :31:52.not have the composure to win. Everybody hoped it might be the year

:31:53. > :31:55.after coming within a whisker of a semifinal place in the World Cup but

:31:56. > :32:00.they have got serious attacking weapons. Stuart Hogg was great

:32:01. > :32:06.again. And he is very quick. No doubt about it. He can play back and

:32:07. > :32:12.on the wing as well. There was that one chance. At this level, when you

:32:13. > :32:16.give those chances, they are few and far between and you have to take

:32:17. > :32:21.them. I agree with Jonathan. Do not underestimate Scotland. They will

:32:22. > :32:24.come down, they have lost their first game, they were confident of

:32:25. > :32:30.winning. It will be disappointing for them. They have got their work

:32:31. > :32:35.cut out. They can be defeated but they are no marks. The thanks they

:32:36. > :32:41.got so close to that semifinal in the World Cup, it should be noted.

:32:42. > :32:47.-- the fact they got. We have them next week on Saturday in Cardiff.

:32:48. > :32:51.More about Scotland later. The under 20 team later, opening the account

:32:52. > :32:54.against Ireland on Friday. Hoping to make it four in a row. Against the

:32:55. > :33:07.men in green. COMMENTATOR: Spotting space on the

:33:08. > :33:10.other side. Nicely worked. O'Brien. No, he does not quite make the

:33:11. > :33:17.corner. A great cover tackle from Dan Jones. Over the sideline. It

:33:18. > :33:24.looks as though Gallagher may have got there. Declan Smith digging in.

:33:25. > :33:36.Phillips has another go. Gallagher with the tackle. They are so close.

:33:37. > :33:40.Can they reach it? They can indeed! Again, Wales are knocking on the

:33:41. > :33:51.door. A hard battering ram, first time. Lovely slip. A very well

:33:52. > :33:55.worked try for Adam Beard. Declan Smith just directing things around

:33:56. > :34:01.him. Stolen by the replacement, Gavin Brown. Intercepted by Dan

:34:02. > :34:10.Jones. That is an unexpected gift. Wales will take that. What odds on a

:34:11. > :34:15.line-out try here? With Kevin Brown standing off, especially. There he

:34:16. > :34:27.is. Out catching himself. Thundering through the middle. The try has been

:34:28. > :34:33.given very early indeed. Morgan Williams half turned. That means it

:34:34. > :34:37.was meant to go in the air but charged down and back into the hands

:34:38. > :34:44.of scrum-half. Could the room on the outside. Past it a little bit.

:34:45. > :34:55.Thomas bounces his opposite number back inside. And that could be the

:34:56. > :35:04.killer blow for Wales! Phillips tackling low on Gallagher. Kerins

:35:05. > :35:09.goes in. O'Brien. The tackle comes in from Morgan Williams. This time

:35:10. > :35:17.it is quicker ball. Eventually there is space to cross over. A bit rusty

:35:18. > :35:22.in parts, in the first 20 minutes but when we got the speed and

:35:23. > :35:26.intensity I was really pleased. The commitment of the players in defence

:35:27. > :35:29.in particular, it was a good start. It was a great start.

:35:30. > :35:35.Congratulations to the under 20 team. Full win in a row against

:35:36. > :35:43.Ireland. You can see them on club rugby at half past six next Friday

:35:44. > :35:44.night. Could the women do the same? They were also facing the Irish

:35:45. > :35:54.counterparts. The Welsh women opened their

:35:55. > :35:56.campaign with a trip to Donnybrook against the defending champions,

:35:57. > :35:59.Ireland and they were looking to improve on the fifth position from

:36:00. > :36:04.last season. After winning in a friendly the week before,

:36:05. > :36:08.expectations were high. Very excited about this campaign. We learned a

:36:09. > :36:12.lot from last year and we have a big opportunity to see what we can do

:36:13. > :36:15.for five games. This team has attacking threat and they are not

:36:16. > :36:21.afraid to have a go. Quite excited to see what happens. First one we

:36:22. > :36:27.run over. It is clean, processed, Claire. Attack, composure on the

:36:28. > :36:31.ball. Last time we came out of the blocks firing. I want the same

:36:32. > :36:41.intent. Like we said if we are not set, but your foot on it and wait.

:36:42. > :36:44.Do that head, OK. And it was Wales who made the better start, taking

:36:45. > :36:49.the lead thanks to a penalty from Robin Wilkins, as Ireland went off

:36:50. > :36:58.their feet after a ruck inside their own 22. That was quickly cancelled

:36:59. > :37:06.out with a response in kind for the home side. Ireland were getting into

:37:07. > :37:09.the ascendancy in the territory stakes and after taking the lead

:37:10. > :37:13.with another penalty, Wales went down to 14 and the pressure was

:37:14. > :37:17.telling, with Island crossing with the first try with the centre,

:37:18. > :37:25.breaking through in midfield and having the pace to go all the way.

:37:26. > :37:31.Breaks converted, making it 10-3. -- Briggs. The Irish increase their

:37:32. > :37:39.lead with Sophie Spence powering over to give Ireland a 15-3

:37:40. > :37:44.advantage going into the break. Two more penalties in the second half,

:37:45. > :37:46.eventually leading to a victory, 21-3. Welsh, Scotland one week

:37:47. > :37:57.today. -- next for the Welsh. The line speed put us under a lot of

:37:58. > :38:01.pressure and it made it quite difficult. Disappointed, obviously,

:38:02. > :38:05.because we have a good result in the friendly but could not convert it.

:38:06. > :38:11.We had to put that behind us and focus on the next game. It was

:38:12. > :38:16.unlucky, to the women. Sharni Williams is with us in the clubhouse

:38:17. > :38:20.tonight. You defeated Ireland a fortnight ago. Was it a totally

:38:21. > :38:24.different side yesterday? The Irish have gone out and done their

:38:25. > :38:30.homework. They made all the wrongs right on Saturday. They came out

:38:31. > :38:35.with a lot more. Better defence. The line speed was on key and they put

:38:36. > :38:38.us under a lot of pressure. We heard Rachel Taylor saying Wales were

:38:39. > :38:42.hoping to play an adventurous style this year. But you could not get

:38:43. > :38:47.your hands on the ball. Possession was a problem. Something to work on?

:38:48. > :38:52.We could not seem to get past two, three phases. The pressure the Irish

:38:53. > :38:56.put upon us was something else. We struggled to deal with it and we

:38:57. > :39:01.need to go away and go back to the basics in the contact area. And

:39:02. > :39:06.string some more phases together and get that intensity again. Four

:39:07. > :39:10.players on debut. It is good to see new blood at this level. What

:39:11. > :39:15.experience an issue against a more experienced Irish side? I would not

:39:16. > :39:18.say so. They really put their hands up and played with a lot of intent.

:39:19. > :39:22.They went forward and the girls coming from the bench, they added

:39:23. > :39:29.value to the team. I would not say it was a problem. Scotland are up

:39:30. > :39:33.next, on Sunday next week. What are you going to be working on this

:39:34. > :39:37.week? Playing under pressure. The contact area, especially. Playing

:39:38. > :39:43.under that pressure and turning that pressure around and getting

:39:44. > :39:47.momentum, being able to play. Programme macro is right the hide

:39:48. > :39:54.you. Best of luck and we hope to have you back in the clubhouse next

:39:55. > :39:58.week. -- we are right the hide you. -- right behind you.

:39:59. > :40:04.We will go back to the men's tournament. Six Nations kicked off

:40:05. > :40:17.in Paris as France took on Italy. A new era in France with the French,

:40:18. > :40:20.with a flourish under the new coach? They picked four new players,

:40:21. > :40:27.including the sevens specialist, who had not played 15 aside since 2013.

:40:28. > :40:30.Italy had the same coach and same captain, Sergio Perez so. 115 caps,

:40:31. > :40:59.not out. Here come the drop goal attempt. He

:41:00. > :41:07.likes it. Well struck. Italy had taken the lead at the stats to

:41:08. > :41:14.France. He began it all. He looks very dangerous. Doesn't he just?

:41:15. > :41:23.Jules Plisson ongoing pass. Great tackle. And he has opened the French

:41:24. > :41:39.account in his first test match. France have men on the floor. This

:41:40. > :41:46.could be set up for a very sweet drive for the line. Italy powering

:41:47. > :42:00.the way over. A trifle Italy. Parisse. -- a try for Italy. Yes, it

:42:01. > :42:34.was. Taken quickly. Up the blindside. Parisse. For the

:42:35. > :42:40.line and he is so close! That is a great tackle. He has not made the

:42:41. > :42:48.line. It is a try for the man of the moment. Carlo scores. A real chance

:42:49. > :42:58.now for France. Cranking it up inside the 22. That is in. He is in.

:42:59. > :43:11.Try for the French winger. It is one of the workhouse

:43:12. > :43:31.performers. It is over. It is good. He looked as

:43:32. > :43:36.cool as anything and has just put his team into the lead.

:43:37. > :43:54.Parisse. He is back on his feet. Yes, he was tackled. Another very

:43:55. > :44:00.close decision. Was he tackled? Well, it is a high tackle. It is a

:44:01. > :44:06.high tackle. Penalty should have gone to the Tanya 's. -- the

:44:07. > :44:17.Italians. He was held. This is a big, big kick. That is a monster

:44:18. > :44:25.kick. Huge, huge kick and France are in the lead. 23-21. Parisse still

:44:26. > :44:28.does not believe it was a penalty. STUDIO: First game for France and it

:44:29. > :44:33.was a victory and it was fairly underwhelming. That was the biggest

:44:34. > :44:39.talking point. Contentious penalty. The play, taking it at 54 metres but

:44:40. > :44:46.should it have been a penalty? It was a high tackle, first of all. It

:44:47. > :44:58.hits him in the... That is one heck of a kick.

:44:59. > :45:03.Everybody's expecting the same style as Toulouse. Getting the Ford on the

:45:04. > :45:08.back line and if it came of it would have been exciting. They have the

:45:09. > :45:14.right to go wide and the Italians played well. They stood up, scoring

:45:15. > :45:19.a try. Missing a couple of easy tries which would have put them in

:45:20. > :45:26.front. I do not know about that rock goal at the end. You need somebody

:45:27. > :45:30.to get out of the way, should have been in that position, he took it on

:45:31. > :45:35.himself. The Italians impress me. France have the potential to become

:45:36. > :45:39.good but they have got to do the basics first. They have got a

:45:40. > :45:44.massive pack. Gareth Thomas was in the chair last week. And he played

:45:45. > :45:49.and to lose a couple of seasons and was very, entry about the coach,

:45:50. > :45:54.saying that he would... We have got a bit of Parisse coming up. You are

:45:55. > :46:02.a former back row. You talked about a couple of sensational number eight

:46:03. > :46:05.players. I think Billy Vunipola was the best for me but you could do a

:46:06. > :46:10.whole show about this. He is so good. You almost do not talk about

:46:11. > :46:14.him because you expect that performance every week. In terms of

:46:15. > :46:20.the drop goal, there were some raised eyebrows. The question I

:46:21. > :46:28.would ask, where was the ten? Why did he not put his hand up? I think

:46:29. > :46:33.he probably deserved it. He was probably the only one, I will put my

:46:34. > :46:37.hand up and try and win for the team. Some people accuse him of

:46:38. > :46:44.being a glory hunter but he did not seem to be getting in the pocket and

:46:45. > :46:52.taking it. He had came off for clap. -- cramp. He fell into position and

:46:53. > :46:58.sitting in the pocket and nailing the drop goal, that is what you are

:46:59. > :47:06.paid to do. Parisse, if he gets that, you are the Prime Minister, or

:47:07. > :47:12.president of Italy! Playing in Paris in the, and almost a drop goal. Get

:47:13. > :47:19.your code, go on. That is it! -- get your coat. That really would have

:47:20. > :47:25.taken the biscuit. Would have been brilliant. While we are on the

:47:26. > :47:29.subject of drop goals, it was a bit of a theme this weekend. Three were

:47:30. > :47:35.missed which could have affected the outcome of matches. Russell, Parisse

:47:36. > :47:41.and Rhys Priestland as well. Jonathan Davies, we will see some of

:47:42. > :47:46.yours in a minute. You still have the record for the most rock goals

:47:47. > :47:58.scored by a Welsh player. -- drop goals. The next one is a bit better.

:47:59. > :48:03.As a stand-off, that is what you do. You are directing the play forward,

:48:04. > :48:09.into position. You tell the scrum-half, when I am ready, I will

:48:10. > :48:14.take it. And you can be hero or zero. That is your responsibility. I

:48:15. > :48:19.think it should have been directed and it was not. Parisse stood up and

:48:20. > :48:23.had a crack at it. The other two, they were set up perfectly. Russell

:48:24. > :48:27.was in the right position. Priestland was in the right

:48:28. > :48:32.position. But they both snatched at it. If you pick your head up

:48:33. > :48:39.quickly, you have got to strike through it. As soon as it was hit

:48:40. > :48:45.you knew it was going over. You have got another 20 years to think about

:48:46. > :48:50.it, haven't you? We are running out of time. We will park it there and

:48:51. > :48:55.talk about France another time. So many cameras covering the Six

:48:56. > :49:01.Nations and we do not miss much and it is time for this week's did you

:49:02. > :49:07.see that. As the line-out? Why not use this handy remote control. Dylan

:49:08. > :49:16.Hartley learning some manners. Sorry! Take note, Owen Farrell.

:49:17. > :49:21.Jamie, really! That is better. John Humphrys realising he forgot to get

:49:22. > :49:31.some milk. Do not panic. Russell has got a list.

:49:32. > :49:36.We are back at the bar with Rhys Williams. We took a trip down memory

:49:37. > :49:41.lane looking at your debut against the Irish. A more recent history,

:49:42. > :49:47.this one. We have got Scotland next and that is a fixture with fond

:49:48. > :49:52.memories for you. Fortunately we had a great start against Scotland in

:49:53. > :49:56.2005. We were coming back into it and a long pass and I was on the

:49:57. > :50:02.receiving end and I had a jog of 80 yards up to the posts. Slowed down a

:50:03. > :50:08.bit, didn't you? I was struggling with my calf. He gave up the ghost

:50:09. > :50:12.and I knew it was mine. The next fixture is in Cardiff. Would he make

:50:13. > :50:20.any changes after what you saw today? Depending on injuries, I

:50:21. > :50:24.would not. We know how physical it was today. The players will be

:50:25. > :50:29.recovering until Wednesday, when they are fully recovered from this

:50:30. > :50:33.game. It is a real turnaround on the international tournament. Key for me

:50:34. > :50:38.is recovery. If there was anyone I was getting to go with, Warburton

:50:39. > :50:41.and Tipuric against Scotland. We have to make sure we are sharper

:50:42. > :50:45.behind and we had to take their chances. The forwards had so much

:50:46. > :50:50.possession and we have to be sharper to unleash the likes of Tom James,

:50:51. > :50:54.George North and Liam Williams. If Liam Williams retains his place as

:50:55. > :50:58.you suggest a T-shirt, he is against Stuart Hogg. Arguably the most spiky

:50:59. > :51:04.and confrontational characters in world rugby. It could be a head to

:51:05. > :51:08.head to relish. Rugby fans wants to see that. Players with the ball in

:51:09. > :51:12.hand, having a go and doing things that are different from what we see

:51:13. > :51:17.Whee Kim and we can. It could be a great head to head. -- week in and

:51:18. > :51:23.week out. Let's hope Scotland kicked badly and they have enough space to

:51:24. > :51:27.run. Looking forward to it. Scotland's next, as we have

:51:28. > :51:29.discussed. Sean has had a look at where this game might be won and

:51:30. > :51:37.lost. Scotland had limbs is threatening

:51:38. > :51:42.play against England but poor execution and decision-making let

:51:43. > :51:45.them down. -- were threatening. The raft rail to use and if Wales can

:51:46. > :51:52.get the detailed preparation spot on, they can exploit it. -- they

:51:53. > :51:54.have got frailties. They showed ingenuity in attack from the

:51:55. > :52:00.line-outs. Hardy instrumental in this. They are looking for weakness

:52:01. > :52:05.in the Welsh system. Especially from them all, bringing in Tommy Seymour.

:52:06. > :52:08.But they are deployed of ideas in the red zone and England found it

:52:09. > :52:14.easy to defend and sorted to missed chances like this. Wales will have

:52:15. > :52:17.to be aware of interception. Then Russell gets interception and he

:52:18. > :52:21.surely should have passed to Stuart Hart. They had a rapid back three

:52:22. > :52:26.and on the turnover they are very quick. As Hogg showed last year,

:52:27. > :52:31.each carried 18 times, over 100 metres yesterday. Wales had

:52:32. > :52:36.opportunities in the wider channel to attack. Scotland, drifting on the

:52:37. > :52:42.inside and out on the outside. Leaving a lot of space for the Welsh

:52:43. > :52:45.back free to attack. If we can send numbers at the line, the outside

:52:46. > :52:50.backs are turning their hits in towards the runners. Leading space

:52:51. > :52:55.on the outside. Look how Seymour jumps out of the line. Space for

:52:56. > :53:00.Jack Nowell. The result of that, in the wider channels, the full-back as

:53:01. > :53:06.to commit himself, even more space behind for a kick and chase. If

:53:07. > :53:09.Wales can get some play between the forward and back, like Billy

:53:10. > :53:13.Vunipola for England yesterday, they can exploit the outer channels. Look

:53:14. > :53:17.how the defenders planted their feet and now they are in trouble. Watson

:53:18. > :53:24.has seen this. Kicking into the space. Hogg has two commit to the

:53:25. > :53:27.front line. This is also an opportunity against Scotland.

:53:28. > :53:34.Russell found himself in the backfield. He is challenged by the

:53:35. > :53:37.England outside back. And who could forget the miss timed challenge on

:53:38. > :53:42.Dan Biggar at Murrayfield, resulting in the yellow card? Disorganised

:53:43. > :53:47.defence and again, the outer channel, Scotland's turning in,

:53:48. > :53:48.leading to a two on one and that is all the Welsh need at international

:53:49. > :53:58.level. A bit of use before we move on about

:53:59. > :54:02.the injury with Dan Biggar. He was in a moon boot after the game as a

:54:03. > :54:04.precaution. We will find out if he is fit and available for selection.

:54:05. > :54:10.We will talk about Scotland selection later. Picking up on that

:54:11. > :54:14.point made by Sean about how the Scottish three quarters defended,

:54:15. > :54:19.maybe you would like to see Wales get the balls out in the wider

:54:20. > :54:26.channel as soon as. There is no point in shuffling out. A couple of

:54:27. > :54:31.examples here. If you are drifting, you're drifting together. And if you

:54:32. > :54:36.are blitzing, you are blitzing together. A piece of rope, one goes

:54:37. > :54:41.in and the whole lot does. It is a good parts, you are defeated.

:54:42. > :54:45.Sometimes you have not got a clue where you are and you have got to

:54:46. > :54:49.spot that and gaps will open up. Tommy Seymour loves the

:54:50. > :54:56.interception. He will go for it. It is all nothing. It is 14 points,

:54:57. > :55:01.really. If you can taunt him, it is like a matador, trying to get it to

:55:02. > :55:05.come at you, out of the line, you are hitting the shoulder. They have

:55:06. > :55:09.two variable angles and watch what they are doing. They had to adapt.

:55:10. > :55:16.Because they have varied defensive patterns. That is where we must

:55:17. > :55:22.improve. We must improve on the attacking play. That is what we have

:55:23. > :55:26.to work on. And I think hopefully if all the hard work is done going

:55:27. > :55:32.forward, we can create the space and we have to be clinical and score the

:55:33. > :55:35.tries. We are blessed in Wales with some very good scrum halves. Gareth

:55:36. > :55:42.Davies started in the absence of Rhys Webb 's with Williams coming on

:55:43. > :55:50.later. Contrasting styles. Lloyd with the slick delivery. Would you

:55:51. > :55:54.change for Scotland? No, to be fair, Gareth has played well almost every

:55:55. > :55:57.time he has played for Wales. I thought that ball coming back was a

:55:58. > :56:03.bit slow today. Every scrum-half needs a platform. Going forward, it

:56:04. > :56:11.is easier. Wales can do it against Scotland. Gareth is very capable,

:56:12. > :56:15.very good at sniffing out tries. He is excellent. He might not have been

:56:16. > :56:20.at his best today but having said that, I do not think he played badly

:56:21. > :56:24.at all. Just not as good as what he normally is. A lot of people had to

:56:25. > :56:30.play a part in that for the scrum-half. I would expect Gareth to

:56:31. > :56:34.be in there. I might bring in summary like Matthew Morgan on the

:56:35. > :56:39.bench, maybe. Then we can very tactics a bit more. -- somebody.

:56:40. > :56:43.Then we could have more effectiveness in attacking play.

:56:44. > :56:49.What about the back row? We heard about the balance and you touched on

:56:50. > :56:55.it, would you make any changes? Is it the best game for Warburton and

:56:56. > :57:01.Tipuric together? Four into three do not go. Having quality players, you

:57:02. > :57:04.can go horses for courses. You want to play Tipuric at the Scottish

:57:05. > :57:10.game, more of an open game and more possession than against the Irish.

:57:11. > :57:15.The Irish were very tight and it was a close affair. In general terms,

:57:16. > :57:20.everybody talks about Wales involving the attacking game. For

:57:21. > :57:23.Wales to evolve the attacking game, you need to Tipuric to be part of

:57:24. > :57:28.that plan. He can do things other players cannot. 20 seconds left.

:57:29. > :57:34.Your predictions in one word? Wales. Wales. Wales. There it is, Wales!

:57:35. > :57:46.Round of applause. Back on track. CROWD CHEERS And that is all we have

:57:47. > :57:53.time for. Thanks to my guests, Jonathan Davies, Gareth Edwards,

:57:54. > :57:58.Jonathan Thomas, and over in the bar, Mr Rhys Williams and Sharni

:57:59. > :58:04.Williams for the Welsh women as well! Thank you for coming. That is

:58:05. > :58:09.all we have time for. Wales have drawn the opening game in the six

:58:10. > :58:14.nations but we are still undefeated. Scotland next in Cardiff in six

:58:15. > :58:25.days. Just five more sleeps. We will see you next week. Good night.

:58:26. > :58:33.Can he score? It would be a miracle if he could. He will get the!

:58:34. > :58:36.Jonathan Davies with a drop goal and he has done it again. And that

:58:37. > :58:44.surely must be the score that wins the game for Wales. Shane Williams

:58:45. > :58:51.has won the most hotly contested game. I cannot believe it.
