:00:50. > :01:01.Hi. My name is Tim Peake. Welcome on board the International Space

:01:02. > :01:06.Station. I am speaking to you from about 400 kilometres above the

:01:07. > :01:10.earth, just below me the southern hemisphere is still basking in rugby

:01:11. > :01:14.World Cup glory. He is over the line, he has touched down and the

:01:15. > :01:18.All Blacks are clear! New Zealand have won their third World Cup and

:01:19. > :01:22.they have thoroughly deserved a great victory. As for Europe...

:01:23. > :01:26.That's the worst thing I have seen on a rugby field for a very long

:01:27. > :01:30.time. There are bodies lying on the pitch. It's sickening. You feel you

:01:31. > :01:36.are never going to come back from it. After the darkness comes the

:01:37. > :01:40.light. A fresh start, new faces and hopes rekindled. Hartley has been

:01:41. > :01:47.named England Rugby Union captain ahead of the Six Nations. So, as a

:01:48. > :01:54.new day dawns, good luck to all the teams. A great finish! For the line

:01:55. > :02:04.and a try! And make this Six Nations out of this world.

:02:05. > :02:12.Well, sitting in his tin can far above the world planet earth is blue

:02:13. > :02:14.for Tim Peake as he looks down on a winter's day that promises an

:02:15. > :02:17.enthralling start to this year's championships. For all the home

:02:18. > :02:22.nations the World Cup is so last year. The future starts today in

:02:23. > :02:26.France and Scotland, new coaches, new players, new hopes, new dreams.

:02:27. > :02:30.Same magical competition which begins for real in 50 minutes or so

:02:31. > :02:33.with a hugely symbolic match for the people of France with the first

:02:34. > :02:38.international at the Stade de France since the terrorist outrage. The

:02:39. > :02:42.match with Italy kicks off at 2. 25pm. Ireland and Wales completes

:02:43. > :02:47.the opening weekend in Glyn tomorrow.

:02:48. > :02:50.We have -- in Dublin tomorrow. Our new spaceship on theouts skirts

:02:51. > :02:54.the pitch to give us a fantastic the pitch to give us a fantastic

:02:55. > :03:02.view out of the playing arena and the pitch to give us a fantastic

:03:03. > :03:05.are Jeremy Guscott and Mike Tindall. Over the years the Six Nations after

:03:06. > :03:09.a World Cup can be after the Lord mayors show but there is a sense of

:03:10. > :03:13.excitement about what happens over the six weeks. There is, I think,

:03:14. > :03:18.because of what happened in the last weekend of 2015. It was

:03:19. > :03:21.because of what happened in the last extraordinary, fantastic rugby. So

:03:22. > :03:25.the anticipation, the expectation is for that to continue and we have

:03:26. > :03:28.some great games to look forward to over the next five weekends. And

:03:29. > :03:31.great confrontations to look forward to but the World Cup, it excited

:03:32. > :03:36.people because it was enterprising and so open. Realistically, what can

:03:37. > :03:39.we expect on the field of play do you think from this championship? I

:03:40. > :03:44.think you hope that it continues in that way. World Cups are normally

:03:45. > :03:47.built on defence. This time it was built on people attacking. Argentina

:03:48. > :03:51.leading the way with that, and Japan leading the way with that. You hope

:03:52. > :03:55.people, especially someone like Italy, looks at that, it's Jacques

:03:56. > :03:58.Brunel's last Six Nations, he goes right, we have to go out there and

:03:59. > :04:04.prove a point. Let's go and enjoy ourselves. Let's go show what we can

:04:05. > :04:09.go do as athletes and hopefully you will see that with rugby all the way

:04:10. > :04:11.through. All the teams seem to be approaching in different ways.

:04:12. > :04:14.England almost rewriting it out of history. How much is Scotland using

:04:15. > :04:19.the World Cup as a positive to build for the future? Very much so. This

:04:20. > :04:23.time last year obviously Scotland were whitewashed in the Six Nations

:04:24. > :04:28.and the World Cup, there was a step forward in lots of ways. They looked

:04:29. > :04:31.like they were a comfortable squad, an experienced squad now. They're

:04:32. > :04:34.taking that, how close they were to get to the semifinals, a real

:04:35. > :04:38.positive and they're desperate to get into the next game which is

:04:39. > :04:41.obviously here later on. We will start with our preview of what the

:04:42. > :04:45.home nations can expect with England. Obviously it's a new

:04:46. > :04:49.England now. The regime seems to have changed out of all recognition

:04:50. > :04:54.since the team took the field in the World Cup three months or so ago.

:04:55. > :05:02.The Lancaster regime is gone, replaced by a smiling uncompromising

:05:03. > :05:05.Australian. One of the dreams of an

:05:06. > :05:08.international coach is to win a World Cup. If you look at the

:05:09. > :05:13.countries who are capable of winning the World Cup, England's one of

:05:14. > :05:17.those countries. Given the performance at the last World Cup

:05:18. > :05:22.was disappointing, when the offer came through it was an offer I

:05:23. > :05:27.couldn't refuse. What a great opportunity to take a nation that's

:05:28. > :05:30.domesticicly strong, has depth of players, that's not doing well at

:05:31. > :05:34.the moment and try to take them up the ladder. How surprised have you

:05:35. > :05:39.been about the interest in you? Well, not so much about me, but

:05:40. > :05:43.about English rugby. There's this love for English rugby here. At the

:05:44. > :05:46.same time, you can feel there's so many people are hoping it fails.

:05:47. > :05:51.There is a great attention on the English rugby team. It's fantastic.

:05:52. > :05:55.Do you think English rugby has lost a sense of identity? You don't know

:05:56. > :05:59.really what you get with England any more? Graham Henry said after the

:06:00. > :06:02.World Cup and I thought it was a relevant comment, he said it looked

:06:03. > :06:05.like England were trying to copy New Zealand's style. England doesn't

:06:06. > :06:10.need to copy anyone's style. It needs to develop its own style. What

:06:11. > :06:16.does that mean? That means finding a way. Finding a way, if you have to

:06:17. > :06:20.maul them to death, scrum them, we can outphase them. We have to

:06:21. > :06:25.outkick them. If you look since 2004 the record in the Six Nations hasn't

:06:26. > :06:29.been great in winning trophies. Maybe there's been a few short cuts

:06:30. > :06:34.taken since then. Maybe the work hasn't been done to develop players

:06:35. > :06:38.as much as it should have. To win trophies you need world-class

:06:39. > :06:41.players. You look at Ireland, how many world-class players they've

:06:42. > :06:46.had. Wales. Do England have world-class players now? Potentially

:06:47. > :06:53.they do. No one at the moment would get into a world 15. Our aim is to

:06:54. > :06:57.dominate if a Lions team is picked we want to see at least 50% of those

:06:58. > :07:04.full of Englishmen. Is the talent there? It's definitely there. It

:07:05. > :07:07.needs to be maximised. Firstly it's about the mindset of wanting to be a

:07:08. > :07:11.top test star, understand the sacrifice it is costs. You have to

:07:12. > :07:15.sacrifice, if you want to be a great team you have to sacrifice. What's

:07:16. > :07:18.team unity like? One of the things I deliberately tried to do is get

:07:19. > :07:21.cohesion, so we have had a couple of nights out together and in smaller

:07:22. > :07:26.groups, just to get the guys to enjoy each other. They've been

:07:27. > :07:31.allowed out for a beer? It's not banned? No, we work hard. I want the

:07:32. > :07:34.players to work hard on the field. And off the field they've got to be

:07:35. > :07:37.sensible and got to be professional and jn stand they have

:07:38. > :07:42.responsibilities in English rugby player but there is no harm a guy

:07:43. > :07:46.going out and having dinner and and a couple of pints. There is nothing

:07:47. > :07:52.wrong with that as long as it's a couple and not ten, 15. Can you be

:07:53. > :07:56.the vaviour of English rugby? -- saviour? I don't know but at the end

:07:57. > :07:59.of the four years we will have a strong English team.

:08:00. > :08:05.Sglp We will be replaying that quote I am sure a lot over the next four

:08:06. > :08:08.years. I want to say Sonia and dill Lynne

:08:09. > :08:16.Hartley, that's riveting television we will show you later on. You

:08:17. > :08:21.played against Eddie Jones? I did back in 88, it was a fantastic side,

:08:22. > :08:25.they pumped us in Sydney, it was a thrashing we got that day. What do

:08:26. > :08:31.you make of the overemphasis about going out for a beer and this kind

:08:32. > :08:35.of thing, is it important the cliche of bonding? As long a point it might

:08:36. > :08:39.be, I think it does make a big difference. When you are in a

:08:40. > :08:44.relaxed atmosphere you are having a couple of beers, obviously the right

:08:45. > :08:49.person to ask me! You just get to know people on a different level. If

:08:50. > :08:52.you are in an environment it is high pressure at elite sport. It is - you

:08:53. > :08:56.are always thinking what you have to do on the field. To be able to sort

:08:57. > :09:00.of sit down and go out for dinner, have drinks with the lads, actually

:09:01. > :09:03.bond on a different level where you are not talking rugby, it does make

:09:04. > :09:09.those small differences and I think it will benefit the squad. Obviously

:09:10. > :09:15.from Jerry and Mike's point of view there is a vested interest in how

:09:16. > :09:20.England do. Do you look at the Eddie Jones regime in revolutionary terms

:09:21. > :09:27.or evolutionary? It's not been revolutionary, because look at the

:09:28. > :09:29.side for the first game. It would have seen new caps and Clifford

:09:30. > :09:33.maybe. So that might happen next week. It might still happen, that

:09:34. > :09:37.revolution might come. But it is just an evolution at the moment. He

:09:38. > :09:40.has played a blinder so far in his press conferences but that's what he

:09:41. > :09:45.does. His sound bites are brilliant. Now we need to see the substance.

:09:46. > :09:48.Whether they've had the time to really see that, he has had two

:09:49. > :09:52.weeks with them, I think we will see that coming through the Six Nations

:09:53. > :09:56.and beyond. I think it's all about the attitude. He has picked a side

:09:57. > :10:00.with a real bite and attitude and that's saying something about his

:10:01. > :10:03.regime. He strikes me as a no-nonsense guy. We heard about

:10:04. > :10:09.Stuart Lancaster with the one on ones and they were long in

:10:10. > :10:13.conversation. Eddie Jones is straight to the point, I think. He

:10:14. > :10:16.won't hang around, they'll get one or two opportunities, after that he

:10:17. > :10:18.will settle on a team. Is it a four-year project and does it matter

:10:19. > :10:23.what happens in the intervening period or because of the way the

:10:24. > :10:29.media is so intrusive and the all-seeing eye, has he got to win

:10:30. > :10:34.games on the way, as well? 100%. He has a four-year contract. If England

:10:35. > :10:38.don't win, the pressure comes on. That's when we will see another side

:10:39. > :10:42.of Eddie Jones. Wales, interestingly on the last three World Cups, the

:10:43. > :10:47.following season there's been a Grand Slam victory for France in

:10:48. > :10:52.2004 and Wales in 2008 and 2012. Somebody who was at the heart of

:10:53. > :11:00.those triumphs and right at the core of the Welsh team still is Alan Wyn

:11:01. > :11:06.Jones. Ten years since you made your debut

:11:07. > :11:11.almost. Yeah... Has time flown? Yeah, I know. I wish I was captain

:11:12. > :11:16.at 15. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I never thought I would be

:11:17. > :11:19.comfortable or feeling increasingly equipped to play the game. When you

:11:20. > :11:23.look back at the World Cup how do you think of it now, pride,

:11:24. > :11:29.frustration, what's the overriding feeling? I think we can be proud in

:11:30. > :11:33.the fact we were gracious in all we had and we kept going and young guys

:11:34. > :11:37.came in and had an opportunity and put their hands up. To a point we

:11:38. > :11:42.probably had more development in the space of the few months than

:11:43. > :11:49.probably get in a few years. It's a massive thing. Ultimately a couple

:11:50. > :11:53.of games go a different way at certain times and we are talking

:11:54. > :11:56.semifinal and beyond. But it's all behindsight now, we have to move

:11:57. > :12:00.forward. Is the Six Nations different in a World Cup year,

:12:01. > :12:05.especially a year when you were in the same pool as England? Yeah, but

:12:06. > :12:10.not for the reason that we played them once already in a World Cup,

:12:11. > :12:15.everyone's going to have an element of disarray going into it with a lot

:12:16. > :12:18.of change in squads. There's probably some teams that feel

:12:19. > :12:22.they're a bit skinny in certain areas because of injuries, etc. It's

:12:23. > :12:25.going to be interesting to see where everything lines up because of the

:12:26. > :12:30.playing load between the World Cup and the start of the Six Nations.

:12:31. > :12:39.Start out in Dublin T will be a different one for you, no Paul oh

:12:40. > :12:42.conto keep an eye on. -- O Connell. There is Toner to step probably to

:12:43. > :12:46.the fore in their lineout. A few other guys coming into play

:12:47. > :12:52.alongside him, as well. Generally, you are at ease with yourself at the

:12:53. > :12:59.moment and with the rugby life? Yeah, I think so. No element of

:13:00. > :13:02.complainency at all, but I think an element of confidence and

:13:03. > :13:08.realisation where I am and what I am doing, what I can do. That gives you

:13:09. > :13:11.confidence to be happy and enjoy and make the most of where you are and

:13:12. > :13:16.what you are doing. Fatherhood, as well. You have a little daughter

:13:17. > :13:22.now. Is that putting rugby in perspective, as well? Yeah, very

:13:23. > :13:27.much so. I don't want to be harping on like I am the first guy playing

:13:28. > :13:30.rugby that's had a kid. Yeah, I am very conscious of I have been in a

:13:31. > :13:34.privileged position to play rugby and I feel even more so now that I

:13:35. > :13:39.am able to play rugby and have a family life, as well. And make the

:13:40. > :13:43.most of that and have a child is the best distraction from what can be

:13:44. > :13:48.like I say a privileged position but also quite intense at times. Keep on

:13:49. > :13:51.smiling, keep enjoying it. Yeah, I can't smile too much!

:13:52. > :14:02.I am not allowed, apparently. Gareth Charles asking the questions

:14:03. > :14:09.there. Listening to that in Paris was Jonathan Davies. Afternoon to

:14:10. > :14:13.you. Afternoon, John. Minor delay on the line. Alan, it feels like

:14:14. > :14:16.you. Afternoon, John. Minor delay on been there forever but he is still a

:14:17. > :14:21.cornerstone of the side, isn't he? Yeah,

:14:22. > :14:25.cornerstone of the side, isn't he? the Welsh set-up. I think he has

:14:26. > :14:29.this aura about him, even just his presence inspires other players. He

:14:30. > :14:33.does his work and in the set-piece but this year he has picked his game

:14:34. > :14:37.up again and carries the ball a lot and he has been very important for

:14:38. > :14:41.the Ospreys and he will be very, very important for Wales. If the

:14:42. > :14:45.Welsh pack is pretty reliable, what do you make about the back division?

:14:46. > :14:47.The book-makers have the Welsh team as a whole favourites and

:14:48. > :14:54.convincingly favourites to score the most tries. Do you see that

:14:55. > :15:01.potential in their back line? I am surprised by that because I can see

:15:02. > :15:04.the potential there. But the systems they play, they don't score many

:15:05. > :15:08.tries and didn't score many in the World Cup and that was their

:15:09. > :15:12.downfall really. We harped on about 15 against 13 against Australia.

:15:13. > :15:16.They should have scored. Now I think I interviewed Rob Howley a couple of

:15:17. > :15:23.weeks ago and they want to express themselves and play in wider

:15:24. > :15:28.channels, maybe that's the reasons they picked Anscombe to get the ball

:15:29. > :15:32.out to wider channels. It will be interesting to see how they go and

:15:33. > :15:35.there's boys back from injury which missed the World Cup. They have the

:15:36. > :15:40.potential there but they've got to try and unlock it. OK, thank you

:15:41. > :15:45.very much. Jonathan is with our team in Paris.

:15:46. > :15:49.France and Italy to kick off this year's RBS Six Nations. England and

:15:50. > :15:56.Wales now. Let's move on to Scotland. Actually when you look

:15:57. > :15:59.Wales now. Let's move on to between 2011 and 15 they won three

:16:00. > :16:01.out of 20 matches in the Six Nations. But they won just as many

:16:02. > :16:06.games in the World Cup last autumn and that really is

:16:07. > :16:06.games in the World Cup last autumn optimism, not least for their

:16:07. > :16:19.captain. We need to take positives away from

:16:20. > :16:22.the tournament and the game, I thought we played fantastically well

:16:23. > :16:26.and if we concentrated more at times in the game I think we would have

:16:27. > :16:31.won the game. The final whistle goes. Joubert runs off the pitch.

:16:32. > :16:35.That's the worst thing I have seen on a rugby field for a long time. He

:16:36. > :16:38.is not prepared to face up to the players. That's not rugby. It was

:16:39. > :16:42.all surreal. It happened so quickly. We put so much effort into the game

:16:43. > :16:44.and to lose like that was heart-breaking for everyone

:16:45. > :16:48.concerned, from a Scottish perspective, we are always looking

:16:49. > :16:52.at improving. I feel we done that in the tournament and we have to do

:16:53. > :16:55.that in an extremely tough Six Nations. How do you turn that raw

:16:56. > :16:58.emotion into something positive going forward? We have to understand

:16:59. > :17:03.why we have a good performance like that and take some of the emotion

:17:04. > :17:06.away from playing in the game and simply focus on skills set and

:17:07. > :17:09.concentration has been a big thing for us and that's what we are

:17:10. > :17:12.thinking about in training, sometimes we feel as though we lack

:17:13. > :17:16.concentration for the full 80 minutes. Out there in the middle

:17:17. > :17:33.nobody can relax for any amount of time at all.

:17:34. > :17:40.Scotland have had poor starts to the Six Nations championships, I think

:17:41. > :17:44.they've won one match in 16 years since it started. Why do you think

:17:45. > :17:50.that is? It's clearly not a good start in the tournament, it's based

:17:51. > :17:54.on momentum. You need to start well. There lies the secret of probably

:17:55. > :17:57.why we haven't done well in the tournament. Been caught cold in the

:17:58. > :18:02.preparation in the week leading up to it, it's short and in the past we

:18:03. > :18:07.have maybe just been undercooked and unsure and how we like to play. That

:18:08. > :18:11.is our message to the coaches this time around, let's concentrate on

:18:12. > :18:14.all the things we feel as players we need to concentrate on. I think we

:18:15. > :18:17.have a good balance this time around. The proof will be in the

:18:18. > :18:22.pudding. 12 years ago was the last time that Scotland actually scored a

:18:23. > :18:26.try against England. At Murrayfield. When you hear a stat like that how

:18:27. > :18:30.does it make you feel? It's an incredible stat, never knew that.

:18:31. > :18:34.That's baffling really. We need to - it's incredible. Cheer we want to

:18:35. > :18:39.change that this weekend and will be everything in our powers to do that.

:18:40. > :18:42.The shape we play with allows us to express ourselves and get dangerous

:18:43. > :18:45.players with hands on the ball and if we do that, we should be able to

:18:46. > :18:48.score some tries. Scotland hasn't beaten England for eight years. How

:18:49. > :19:04.big a gap do you think it All I can say is once we get out

:19:05. > :19:07.there we will give everything for each other and for the shirt and

:19:08. > :19:15.hopefully come away with the right result.

:19:16. > :19:18.All those statistics don't make good reading, do they? They've guaranteed

:19:19. > :19:22.is we are definitely losing this game! To remind the captain that all

:19:23. > :19:29.these stats, you have never beaten them. We are in trouble now. It

:19:30. > :19:34.doesn't make pleasant reading for listening for any Scottish fan.

:19:35. > :19:37.That's been symptomatic of Scotland's performance. You lose the

:19:38. > :19:39.first game and you are going into the second without confidence,

:19:40. > :19:42.probably doubting selection. Momentum is the word you hear all

:19:43. > :19:46.the time but it's so true. Scotland have only once had that first

:19:47. > :19:51.victory. What is the optimism that is palpable when you talk to people

:19:52. > :19:55.over the last 24 hours in Edinburgh, what is that based on? I think it's

:19:56. > :19:58.based on a squad now, it is a squad, it's not a first 15, there is

:19:59. > :20:03.strength and depth there, it's a squad, Glasgow won the Pro 12 last

:20:04. > :20:06.year. A lot of these players know they're at least a match for the

:20:07. > :20:10.likes of Irish players and Welsh players. A lot are playing in

:20:11. > :20:14.England now and France. They know that they're a match for this level.

:20:15. > :20:19.So, it's a settled side now. These guys have been together for a while.

:20:20. > :20:23.Vern Cotter has had them now for a period of time. You can really see

:20:24. > :20:29.they're beginning to jel. I thought the World Cup they were a tight

:20:30. > :20:34.group together. My optimism would be based, if I was Scottish, on the

:20:35. > :20:38.tight-head for Scotland. The scrum has never been particularly strong

:20:39. > :20:41.and in Laidlaw you have the best kicker in the wo world. If they get

:20:42. > :20:47.territory they'll kick penalties and get the score board ticking over.

:20:48. > :20:53.OK. On to Ireland then. They start tomorrow against Wales. Looking for

:20:54. > :21:01.a third consecutive championship. In many ways you could say their team

:21:02. > :21:10.is in tatters. It's a good job their coach Joe Schmidt is nothing, if not

:21:11. > :21:17.a realist. Joe, you are potentially on the

:21:18. > :21:21.verge of something very special, it will be three in a row if you win,

:21:22. > :21:25.does that add extra pressure? Not really, as you said potentially. We

:21:26. > :21:28.have to start over and try to win the trophy back by working our way

:21:29. > :21:32.through one game at a time and the problem is the trophy can be gone

:21:33. > :21:36.after one game. You are playing at home first up against such a good

:21:37. > :21:42.side that we can be scrambling to get some sort of decent placement

:21:43. > :21:46.after round one. One of the accusations post-World

:21:47. > :21:51.Cup has been levelled at all the northern hemisphere sides is that we

:21:52. > :21:54.are not attack-minded enough. Again, there is a degree of frustration in

:21:55. > :21:59.that. Per match we kicked exactly the same number of times as the All

:22:00. > :22:03.Blacks. We made more passes than any other team per match in the World

:22:04. > :22:07.Cup. Last time we played Wales we kicked 11 times in general play.

:22:08. > :22:10.Wales kicked 22 times. Does that sound like we are not playing the

:22:11. > :22:15.game? At the same time, we live and die by our results and the results

:22:16. > :22:17.said that the four southern hemisphere teams were superior. I

:22:18. > :22:24.don't think there is a massive difference in the way the game is

:22:25. > :22:30.played. The captain scores within four minutes. You have already had

:22:31. > :22:35.to cope with the departure of Brian O'Driscoll and now the other titan

:22:36. > :22:40.of Irish rugby, Paul O Connell is gone. You don't fill Paul's shoes

:22:41. > :22:43.with one man. Rory Best comes in as captain and he was already a leader

:22:44. > :22:47.within the group. I don't think that he is going to change too much about

:22:48. > :22:52.what he does. He is going to lead from the front. There's a number of

:22:53. > :22:56.other guys who will have to step up because one of the things about

:22:57. > :22:58.Paul's leadershipedship was multi-facetted, it was his attention

:22:59. > :23:02.to detail and preparation and the way he carried himself off the

:23:03. > :23:05.pitch. To make sure that we are ticking all those boxes and

:23:06. > :23:10.replacing him is going to be a task that's going to be shared amongst a

:23:11. > :23:20.group of players, I think. Plenty of leaders left in that squad

:23:21. > :23:27.but you are also missing the likes of Bop Henderson and O Mahoney. I

:23:28. > :23:32.don't think you can be superconfident. The competition is

:23:33. > :23:36.so tight. We won with a points differentential of ten and five,

:23:37. > :23:38.even that appears to be going on the wrong trajectory, from that

:23:39. > :23:44.perspective we are never confident about anything other than trying to

:23:45. > :23:50.get the best preparation we can and then trying to dove-tail that into a

:23:51. > :23:54.really good performance. Let's go back to Paris and talk to

:23:55. > :23:58.Keith Wood about what the next few weeks might hold in store for the

:23:59. > :24:02.Irish S this a turning point do you think for the international team? I

:24:03. > :24:07.think it's a huge turning point. A lot of the big guys are gone, Brian

:24:08. > :24:12.O'Driscoll, Paul, definitely gone. There is injuries. There is more

:24:13. > :24:16.pressure on the coach. The provinces aren't doing well. You wouldn't

:24:17. > :24:19.believe how low the rugby fraternity is at the moment. They're upset and

:24:20. > :24:24.a little bit worried about the whole idea of how Ireland are going to do

:24:25. > :24:30.in in this Six Nations. Can you offer any positives in terms of new

:24:31. > :24:36.names people can look for and say is the next generation? Well, I think

:24:37. > :24:43.there is a next generation. We saw glimpses during the World Cup of

:24:44. > :24:48.Robbie Henshaw, Ian Henderson unfortunately is injured. Gary

:24:49. > :24:52.hasn't made the squad, which is disturbing but I think that Joe

:24:53. > :24:55.Schmidt has gone back to try to do something very simple and do it

:24:56. > :24:59.very, very well for the opening game against Wales. The weather fraction

:25:00. > :25:04.tomorrow is supposed to be terrible. -- weather forecast. They want to

:25:05. > :25:06.get through the game and get a momentum going, that's all they're

:25:07. > :25:15.looking for. Thank you. Great scarf, by the way!

:25:16. > :25:18.Moving on from that. Joe Schmidt, we keep all the

:25:19. > :25:21.interviews we hear with all the coaches and it strikes you there is

:25:22. > :25:24.not a single home nations coach in the entire championship for the

:25:25. > :25:28.first time ever, does that that matter? We have every nation has to

:25:29. > :25:33.go for the best. There were seven kiwi coaches I think coaching sides

:25:34. > :25:38.in the rugby World Cup recently. We have got three in the home unions

:25:39. > :25:41.and in the competition. Look, they're doing a good job. As long as

:25:42. > :25:46.they're doing a good job they will remain. If you have one wish for

:25:47. > :25:49.this championship over the course of the next seven weeks, because this

:25:50. > :25:53.is the shop window for Rugby Union effectively, every year for the next

:25:54. > :25:57.four years this will be the most watched event in the world and

:25:58. > :26:04.domesticicly, what do you hope we will

:26:05. > :26:06.domesticicly, what do you hope we is a Stuart Lancaster side. Why are

:26:07. > :26:12.we still not playing the seven? We just switched a few around. We need

:26:13. > :26:15.to get to where Scotland are consistency in the squad,

:26:16. > :26:18.consistency in the selection which we didn't have through the World Cup

:26:19. > :26:20.which really backfired on us. Hopefully we can come away from

:26:21. > :26:24.which really backfired on us. and France, I would like

:26:25. > :26:25.which really backfired on us. France go out there and show world

:26:26. > :26:31.which really backfired on us. rugby what they can still do and

:26:32. > :26:35.hopefully they can. The World Cup was a massive wake-up call for the

:26:36. > :26:40.northern hemisphere. The southern hemisphere dominated. What impressed

:26:41. > :26:43.me, Argentina have completely changed their mindset and the way

:26:44. > :26:48.they play in the last three or four years. I would love to see the start

:26:49. > :26:53.of that happening with the northern hemisphere teams. Italy, Scotland

:26:54. > :26:55.are trying that. All the taements, Ireland, Wales and England, as well,

:26:56. > :27:02.really trying to play the great rugby we saw on the last weekend

:27:03. > :27:09.last year. Last season we were spoiled with a tremendous game. The

:27:10. > :27:14.last weekend was phenomenal. If that can be the benchmark that we will

:27:15. > :27:18.watch I will be very pleased. That last weekend, 221 points, 26 tries,

:27:19. > :27:23.it was one crazy but unforgettable day.

:27:24. > :27:31.Settle down, buckle up, calculators at the ready. What a day we have in

:27:32. > :27:39.prospect for you. George North for the line! Wales are flying here:

:27:40. > :27:42.George North second-half hat trick. England and Ireland are possibly

:27:43. > :27:48.watching this in despair. Perfect start for Ireland. The chase is on.

:27:49. > :27:55.The points continue to tick up. Ireland now in pole position. This

:27:56. > :28:00.title may be theirs. The final match England must win by 26 points. What

:28:01. > :28:04.a start! France have scored. England are rocking at the moment. It's an

:28:05. > :28:08.extraordinary game and an extraordinary day. One converted try

:28:09. > :28:19.and England are the Six Nations champions. Enough is enough. That's

:28:20. > :28:23.it. The title is going to Ireland. Welcome to Paris and two nations who

:28:24. > :28:27.had, frankly, miserable World Cups, Italy didn't make it out of the

:28:28. > :28:31.group stages and France probably wish they hadn't. A drubbing at the

:28:32. > :28:34.hands of New Zealand. But there is a new French coach and captain and

:28:35. > :28:39.four players making their debut today. Four new players in the lit

:28:40. > :28:46.team, as well. Although there is at least one familiar face -- Italy

:28:47. > :28:49.team. A return from injury with their captain. As you would expect

:28:50. > :28:53.security here is high. This is the first match here since the terrorist

:28:54. > :28:55.attacks of November. The first coming together in French sport

:28:56. > :29:01.since November. What impact that will have on the atmosphere here

:29:02. > :29:06.today, we will find out very soon. It is the first match of the 2016

:29:07. > :29:09.RBS Six Nations and we have a panel to watch. Keith Wood, and a man

:29:10. > :29:47.enjoying his own French love affair. It's a warm welcome to Matt.

:29:48. > :29:50.Normally we are shivering here but it's about 14 degroos, you have

:29:51. > :29:55.brought the spring with you here today. I am used to the nice weather

:29:56. > :29:59.here in France. In Toulon it's beautiful. You are going to see a

:30:00. > :30:06.great game of rugby. It's great conditions. You played three of the

:30:07. > :30:07.Six Nations sides in the World Cup for Australia. You saw those sides

:30:08. > :30:16.up close. Who impressed you most? Scotland were the big improvers,

:30:17. > :30:21.well coached and well drilled and they have a good sense of how they

:30:22. > :30:25.want to play. We have just about forgiven you for that Scotland game,

:30:26. > :30:30.by the way. How will they close the gap, the Northern Hemisphere sides?

:30:31. > :30:33.It was so disappointing in a home World Cup, the Northern Hemisphere

:30:34. > :30:36.sides should have been more acclimatised and not making it into

:30:37. > :30:41.the semifinals, where must they step up in the next four years? The World

:30:42. > :30:45.Cup is such fine margins, if you look at the games we won they were

:30:46. > :30:50.close games and there is not a huge difference, or a huge amount they

:30:51. > :30:54.need to make up. I just think the fine margins, working for each other

:30:55. > :30:58.and being more committed to the cause as a team that will take them

:30:59. > :31:02.a long way. Commitment and working to the cause, things that France

:31:03. > :31:05.need to get their heads around. Are you pretty much at rock bottom?

:31:06. > :31:12.Terrible World Cup, Six Nations you've not been in the top three for

:31:13. > :31:15.the last four seasons, is this as bad as it will get. It was

:31:16. > :31:19.difference in the quarterfinal against New Zealand for France will

:31:20. > :31:22.stop it is hard to get worse. We have new staff and players and we

:31:23. > :31:25.had a lack of leadership in the World Cup and now we are going to

:31:26. > :31:28.start with fresh new players. We need to forget the past and think

:31:29. > :31:34.about the future and winning the Six Nations would be a good start for

:31:35. > :31:39.Guy Noves and his staff. We will hear from Guy Noves and what he

:31:40. > :31:42.brings shortly. 62 years old yesterday and maybe his time as

:31:43. > :31:47.national coach should have been a couple of cycles ago. Is he the

:31:48. > :31:52.right person? He's one of the most charismatic guys I have met in my

:31:53. > :31:56.life, a guy of few words. Just by watching him you know he understands

:31:57. > :31:58.what he must do and he's been so successful with Toulouse but

:31:59. > :32:01.managing a national team is different from managing a team you

:32:02. > :32:06.know every day because you don't have the players all the time. It

:32:07. > :32:10.will be different. Will he find the right attitude to do it? We will

:32:11. > :32:15.see. That is pertinent because Italy's next coach might experience

:32:16. > :32:18.that as well if the rumours are to be believed, it will be Conor O'Shea

:32:19. > :32:23.who will take over Italy at the end of the Six Nations. A potentially

:32:24. > :32:28.interesting appointment, compared in football terms to Pep Guardiola to

:32:29. > :32:32.Man City, it is all but done. All but done apparently, and we know it

:32:33. > :32:35.is a rumour. There does seem to be some basis behind it. Conor O'Shea

:32:36. > :32:40.has plotted his way through his whole rugby career, as a player when

:32:41. > :32:44.he stepped away from saying he went straight into Administration with

:32:45. > :32:48.the England RFU, a huge amount of steps on the ladder and then he goes

:32:49. > :32:51.for director of rugby and has done incredibly well, he knew there were

:32:52. > :32:55.good new players coming through in the Harlequins Academy and the same

:32:56. > :32:58.is apparently true in Italy. He picks his jobs well so if it turns

:32:59. > :33:02.out to be true he knows something good is ahead for Italy. I just hope

:33:03. > :33:05.he will get the same wages as Guardiola!

:33:06. > :33:09.LAUGHTER Yeah, maybe the weekly wage of

:33:10. > :33:13.Guardiola over the whole duration of his contract! We will see. Conor

:33:14. > :33:18.O'Shea is not in charge of Italy today, it is Jacques Brunel, we will

:33:19. > :33:23.talk more about Italy and Eddie Jones in a moment. You know him

:33:24. > :33:26.well, he plucked you out of club rugby and made you the international

:33:27. > :33:30.star that you became so you know all about his style. First we can get

:33:31. > :33:34.the thoughts of Jonathan Davies who is on the touchline with Lee

:33:35. > :33:37.McKenzie. We have two sides desperate to right

:33:38. > :33:41.the wrongs after a poor World Cup, a new chapter for French rugby, what

:33:42. > :33:46.do you make of this side? It is exciting and Guy Noves has set about

:33:47. > :33:50.getting the basics right going forward and going wide, but he has

:33:51. > :33:55.left out Bastareaud, which shows what he wants to do. It is an

:33:56. > :34:01.exciting backline. It is a very optimistic atmosphere. They have a

:34:02. > :34:05.DJ going, the place is rocking, and if they start well and confidence

:34:06. > :34:09.comes back quickly it could be a long afternoon for the Italians.

:34:10. > :34:13.I know you are obviously a proud Welshman, but how important is it to

:34:14. > :34:17.have a strong, flamboyant France back in the Six Nations? May be the

:34:18. > :34:21.type of France that gave you a couple of sleepless nights when you

:34:22. > :34:24.played in Paris. There is a name on the team sheet, Bonneval, and his

:34:25. > :34:28.father played against us and the first thing we did in the morning

:34:29. > :34:33.playing in Paris was opening the curtains and hoping it would rain.

:34:34. > :34:37.It is a lovely day for them to play. They played a fantastic brand of

:34:38. > :34:41.rugby and we need to see that back, a strong France and a strong

:34:42. > :34:45.Scotland. If everyone is strong it is a strong and vibrant competition.

:34:46. > :34:49.Even the Italians need to up their game a little bit. I think this year

:34:50. > :34:53.is going to be exciting with hopefully a very strong France.

:34:54. > :34:58.Thanks, Jonathan. It will all come from the top, from

:34:59. > :35:03.Guy Noves, 62 years old yesterday, and what a CV he possesses in

:35:04. > :35:07.domestic French rugby, winning big French title ten times and the

:35:08. > :35:10.Heineken Cup four times, compared to the Sir Alex Ferguson of club rugby

:35:11. > :35:15.and he must bring that domestic success to the international stage.

:35:16. > :35:21.Where is French rugby, which French team will turn up? They are

:35:22. > :35:24.gloriously unpredictable. We've been saying that since time immemorial.

:35:25. > :35:26.He's picked a new squad, they have got to gel and it doesn't happen

:35:27. > :35:47.overnight. If he can summon up that invincible

:35:48. > :37:16.air he created at Toulouse France will become a difficult proposition.

:37:17. > :37:24.Guy Noves, coaching Toulouse. A trophy laden CV at domestic level,

:37:25. > :37:30.but this international stage is trophy laden CV at domestic level,

:37:31. > :37:34.have said, there is slight in difference in the French press to

:37:35. > :37:39.his appointment, that maybe his time was a while ago, he is not a fan of

:37:40. > :37:44.the laptop or technology. Yes, but he picked a squad to help him and he

:37:45. > :37:48.kept Yannick Carew who was in the squad previously but he moved from a

:37:49. > :37:51.coach to be a manager and he's 30 rings epic back into the French team

:37:52. > :38:01.and the French players respect him, they call him Monsieur which is

:38:02. > :38:06.important. It will change the attitude of the players. There is an

:38:07. > :38:09.awful lot to do with the culture and philosophy. If he's going to go in

:38:10. > :38:15.and show them how to parse and break a tackle, that is the coach's job.

:38:16. > :38:19.His job is to try and get them back and play like the French teams of

:38:20. > :38:23.old. -- pass. When we came in here today there is a bit of sun in the

:38:24. > :38:26.air, it is lovely and fresh and these are the days that would

:38:27. > :38:29.frighten the life out of you 20 years ago but for the last five

:38:30. > :38:33.years they haven't and you know that if you can ride through the heavy,

:38:34. > :38:38.hard work you can get a result in the end. Italy will be terrified

:38:39. > :38:41.today. It is a perennial problem over the last few years, no top

:38:42. > :38:45.three finish in the last four seasons, so why the step up from the

:38:46. > :38:49.brilliant club rugby that we see at both European and domestic level

:38:50. > :38:52.doesn't translate Wisma it does not translate but we have many

:38:53. > :38:55.foreigners in our championship. And Matt is one of the most gifted and

:38:56. > :39:02.one of the best signings in French rugby, but we don't manage to bring

:39:03. > :39:06.young players in. But there are no limits in the Guy Noves tells to the

:39:07. > :39:11.players but he'll was plays with strong backs and I Kantele the

:39:12. > :39:14.French back will one of the strongest. The flip side is those

:39:15. > :39:19.young players should be yearning from the likes of you and

:39:20. > :39:24.determination and hard work and spirit on the pitch into it domestic

:39:25. > :39:29.rugby. That is generally how it should work but that has been lost a

:39:30. > :39:35.little bit. From experience, the guys are not picked they will not

:39:36. > :39:38.train as hard. It is a case of changing the mindset, that's the

:39:39. > :39:41.challenge for the coach. He must get the guys can not teach them how to

:39:42. > :39:45.play because they are great players, but to buy into a message or a

:39:46. > :39:48.culture, or a way of how they want to play. If he gets them committing

:39:49. > :39:53.to that you will see a good team today. He has four new caps in the

:39:54. > :39:57.starting line-up, second row Jedrasiak is one of those, new caps

:39:58. > :39:59.and new blood, Jedrasiak is one of those, new caps

:40:00. > :40:02.and new blood, people you can influence and create and mould and

:40:03. > :40:11.in the backs he has three of those, Bakare tower on the wing and Danty

:40:12. > :40:14.and Beziers at scrum-half. Bakare tower is a risky choice for some

:40:15. > :40:19.people because he has not played for a couple of years and he doesn't

:40:20. > :40:28.have a club. He's a specialist. It was the game to make him play and

:40:29. > :40:31.he's played rugby sevens. Even if he doesn't have the habit is to play in

:40:32. > :40:35.rugby 15, his positioning and high balls, will he be good? But when he

:40:36. > :40:40.gets the ball he's going to be devastating. A lot of French teams

:40:41. > :40:44.in times past have taken a risk and they want some flamboyance and spark

:40:45. > :40:47.and they want magic and get the crowd standing on their feet and say

:40:48. > :40:50.can we want to follow this team but they haven't done that for the last

:40:51. > :40:55.three years, it has been bish and Bosch, this is the culture change.

:40:56. > :41:00.If you are the hooker at Toulon, not captain down there, he's the man Guy

:41:01. > :41:03.Noves has chosen to lead the team, Guirado, was that a surprise to you?

:41:04. > :41:08.Surprising he has not Guirado, was that a surprise to you?

:41:09. > :41:12.club level. He's the type of player that leads by example and he will do

:41:13. > :41:16.the hard work. He will not be the big speaker and front man that likes

:41:17. > :41:18.to take photos and be everywhere on Twitter, that he is the type of

:41:19. > :41:26.captain that will really lead from the front. Not too many hawkers have

:41:27. > :41:28.been hugely successful as captain is on the international stage. Dylan

:41:29. > :41:34.Hartley has to try and see if he can. Get back in your box, Gary! The

:41:35. > :41:37.front row is it great place to captain from because you are in the

:41:38. > :41:39.middle of the aggression and tackling and emotion and aggression

:41:40. > :41:43.but you have to rely on other players. There are lots of changes

:41:44. > :41:46.in the French team, who are the guys that will stand up and be the

:41:47. > :41:51.leaders to stand behind their captain and help the captain out?

:41:52. > :41:57.When he is stuck in the scrum he needs the nine and ten. They are

:41:58. > :42:00.very experienced, the nine and ten. Will the leaders emerge today? We

:42:01. > :42:07.will see. Let's see what Italy have against them. They had a poor World

:42:08. > :42:10.Cup with the opening loss to France and Ireland at the Olympic Stadium

:42:11. > :42:14.meaning they didn't make it out of the group. Lee McKenzie has been

:42:15. > :42:21.speaking to the former Italy second row. Carlo, there has been a raft of

:42:22. > :42:25.changes from the team we saw at the Rapi World Cup to the one we have

:42:26. > :42:30.today, some promoted to the national side and a lot through injury. How

:42:31. > :42:34.strong is this Italian team? I love the fact the youngsters have been

:42:35. > :42:39.given a chance. To have the opportunity to make your first test

:42:40. > :42:42.debut on the starting line-up as opposed to coming off the bench

:42:43. > :42:47.makes a massive difference to your mental state pre-match. Tell us

:42:48. > :42:51.about the front row, vastly inexperienced, brave decision to do

:42:52. > :43:00.it here in France but you have to do it sometime. You haven't read the

:43:01. > :43:06.voter and they have a massive task today because lots of Italy's play

:43:07. > :43:15.is based on solidity upfront. Ornel Gega must be protected by Andrea

:43:16. > :43:20.Lovotti. They have experience on the bench. If things go drastically

:43:21. > :43:23.wrong out there. You have the likes of Castrogiovanni you can call upon

:43:24. > :43:29.in the latter stages of the game to give you that experience and go

:43:30. > :43:33.forward again. He has a plan B in selecting youngsters to have a go

:43:34. > :43:37.from the beginning. I think that is wise because he knows he can call on

:43:38. > :43:41.his bench. We know that Italy have never won in Paris against France.

:43:42. > :43:45.What must they do if they are going to change that record? It is crucial

:43:46. > :43:50.they stick to the things they know and they do really well, good first

:43:51. > :43:54.phase ball from the scrum, good, solid, tight cohesive mauls and the

:43:55. > :43:57.go forward from the front and that should open the space is wide and

:43:58. > :44:02.give the backs more opportunities. I hope it goes well for you Carlos,

:44:03. > :44:07.thank you. It's interesting for Italy, the

:44:08. > :44:10.stats show how is Twitter? Is it all right? The stats show that in the

:44:11. > :44:15.last Six Nations in the as to 20 minutes they conceded nine tries,

:44:16. > :44:23.they have often been in the game with a quarter to go, what is it?

:44:24. > :44:28.Finish it not be a problem at that level. In many cases it has been the

:44:29. > :44:32.strength and depth of the bench. In the last 20 minutes the other teams

:44:33. > :44:37.up the level for the last 15 mess and occasionally drop their level.

:44:38. > :44:40.It used to be disciplined that let them down. They have their

:44:41. > :44:44.discipline under order but today it is unbelievably hard for them in the

:44:45. > :44:48.front five and they are going to get absolutely drilled. I'm laughing

:44:49. > :44:51.because we always talk about Guy Noves and Flash player and the

:44:52. > :44:56.beautiful astounding rugby his teams have always played, but it is always

:44:57. > :45:02.built on the pack burying the opposition, it has got to be really

:45:03. > :45:05.tough for these young guys. With Guy Noves because of the front five we

:45:06. > :45:11.had these guys who made the difference. He knows that even if

:45:12. > :45:14.you have to be flashy and creative that starts from the forwards. The

:45:15. > :45:21.experience today is in the French back. It is and in Italy there are

:45:22. > :45:28.certainly four new caps, they have ten players who were not in the

:45:29. > :45:34.squad for the World Cup. Paolo -- Carlo Canna, this is a huge step up

:45:35. > :45:42.for him. Yes it is, there are going to test him, and for the record that

:45:43. > :45:48.was Snapchat. Other social media is available! You want to start and be

:45:49. > :45:51.grown into the big games, especially an away game, against the crowd, it

:45:52. > :45:56.is a good test for him and he will know where he is at after this game.

:45:57. > :46:01.It is a gamble but you can't get experience like this without being

:46:02. > :46:04.on this stage. It is difficult in Italian domestic rugby, isn't it?

:46:05. > :46:11.You have to make the change at some stage. He has had great servants and

:46:12. > :46:15.the front row and the back line for Italy but they are gone, they are

:46:16. > :46:21.35, 36 years of age and you have to take the risk. Unfortunately spring

:46:22. > :46:26.in Paris is daunting, especially if we get this sense of occasion. We've

:46:27. > :46:31.covered a lot of games in the last few years here and there is a buzz

:46:32. > :46:41.we haven't heard for a while. The PA has about 45 levels! Body -- Odiete

:46:42. > :46:45.is playing at full-back and he's been setting the level that he plays

:46:46. > :46:50.at a light. That is another huge step up. If you look at Guy Noves,

:46:51. > :46:56.you will think he will send him high balls all day long. When he has the

:46:57. > :47:00.likes of Danty coming at him, he might struggle. He needs to be

:47:01. > :47:06.protected by the back rows. As I said the French team, there is lots

:47:07. > :47:10.of hunger after the World Cup and we have to show the world we are a much

:47:11. > :47:14.better team than we were. We had four years of bad rugby and didn't

:47:15. > :47:17.play well and we were humiliated by some of the teams so now it is time

:47:18. > :47:23.to show we are much better than that. We are moments away from

:47:24. > :47:28.kick-off at the Stade de France of the first match of the 2016 RBS Six

:47:29. > :47:33.Nations. The teams are in the tunnel. France want to show the

:47:34. > :47:36.world that they have rugby in them, they can play the kind of run be

:47:37. > :47:41.that used to light up the international stage a few years ago.

:47:42. > :47:45.Italy, though, are going to take their time and played some kind of

:47:46. > :47:51.psychological game. Waiting a few moments more, what is going on

:47:52. > :47:58.inside the changing room? They might want to show them nervous on the way

:47:59. > :48:02.out. Is those last stages before entering the field of play, the

:48:03. > :48:06.cauldron, the atmosphere out here is fairly spectacular at the moment.

:48:07. > :48:10.What is going on in there and how are the butterflies? It is very hard

:48:11. > :48:14.to hear anything with this loudspeaker here. What they are

:48:15. > :48:18.trying to do is get the message, whether kicking off or receiving you

:48:19. > :48:23.want to get your message of as a playmaker how you want to start the

:48:24. > :48:26.game and get clarity to go out at 100% because in your mind you are

:48:27. > :48:30.clear exactly how you will start the game. Just going back onto the

:48:31. > :48:34.atmosphere, yes, the Tannoy is loud and there is a lot of noise but

:48:35. > :48:39.there is a spark in the air that we have not seen here for a while.

:48:40. > :48:44.There is a level of expectation that may be some of what made France

:48:45. > :48:49.great before the mother little charisma to have an attack from

:48:50. > :48:58.anywhere, maybe it's back, and that is the expectation. We want to

:48:59. > :49:01.believe something has changed. This crowd will let the team know if it

:49:02. > :49:07.is going the right way very quickly and if they are not impressed by

:49:08. > :49:15.what they have seen. The first ten minutes, it will not be this easy.

:49:16. > :49:16.We have suffered as a country. The World Cup has been terrible for the

:49:17. > :49:23.French team. It is a good day to recover all of the enjoyment for the

:49:24. > :49:29.French crowd behind the French rugby team. The French crowd, 60,000 here,

:49:30. > :49:32.normally a capacity of 80,000, not a ticket was sold after the terrorist

:49:33. > :49:37.attacks in November. The crowd who have made it today are determined to

:49:38. > :49:40.make it count. There is a passion and a spark in the air

:49:41. > :49:41.make it count. There is a passion expectation that France are

:49:42. > :49:45.make it count. There is a passion turn things around from their woeful

:49:46. > :50:10.World Cup, their drubbing at the hands of New Zealand.

:50:11. > :50:17.Moments away will no doubt be staring

:50:18. > :50:17.Moments away France have to believe

:50:18. > :50:22.Moments away this trophy this season. You'll this

:50:23. > :50:28.was the team I watched as a child, this is why I wanted to play rugby,

:50:29. > :50:32.Aggers of the flowing ability, skills, scoring from the other end

:50:33. > :50:38.of the Earth if you had to and you can feel there is a hint of that

:50:39. > :50:42.coming back. I think the Six Nations need a French team that excites and

:50:43. > :50:48.doesn't just bludgeon. There is only one too long player in it, pushing

:50:49. > :50:50.away from what the club game is doing and just trying to go back to

:50:51. > :50:56.the spirit of what French rugby is all about. I can see and hear the

:50:57. > :51:00.positivity coming from you, you believe this is a turning point. I

:51:01. > :51:04.know that Guy believe this is a turning point. I

:51:05. > :51:09.mentality of the French team. I played under his management and I

:51:10. > :51:14.know he is on who has a big heart. Even when he was a coach he didn't

:51:15. > :51:20.really help the French team but he provided many players. We will

:51:21. > :51:22.shortly hear the anthems and after that your commentary team, Eddie

:51:23. > :51:59.Butler, Jonathan Davies and Carlo Del Fava.

:52:00. > :52:27.# Italy has woken, Bound Scipio's helmet

:52:28. > :52:38.# Let her bow down, # For God created her

:52:39. > :53:45.# The roar of those ferocious soldiers?

:53:46. > :53:52.# They're coming right into your arms

:53:53. > :53:58.# To cut the throats of your sons, your women!

:53:59. > :54:34.85 days have passed since the atrocity in Paris.

:54:35. > :54:42.Two newcomers in the Italian front row, Andrea Lovotti and gay girl,

:54:43. > :54:47.born in Albania. The hooker. -- Gega. Campagnaro plays rugby for

:54:48. > :55:30.Exeter. Jenny Hill very promising hooker playing for

:55:31. > :55:34.France. What do you think, Jonathan? I have a lot of respect for Guy

:55:35. > :55:39.Noves and what he achieved at Toulouse. If he can replicate that I

:55:40. > :55:45.think it will be a very successful France at international level. Here

:55:46. > :55:51.is the referee. Hopefully we will not watch much of him today and it

:55:52. > :55:59.would be a great game. But it is amazing. He wants to play very

:56:00. > :56:04.attractively. There will be less structure under Guy Noves. Here we

:56:05. > :56:20.go, the start of the 2016 Six Nations. France hoping, promising to

:56:21. > :56:24.play with a new spirit. The new scrum-half, Sebastien Bezy, of

:56:25. > :56:31.Toulouse, Guy Noves, the former Toulouse coach. Sergio Parisse, the

:56:32. > :56:38.great Italian number eight. He makes his first catch of the game. It

:56:39. > :56:46.won't be his last. Leonardo Sarto, the strong right-winger.

:56:47. > :56:59.Canna wears none the turn for the Italians, here he is. Parisse.

:57:00. > :57:02.Tackled by Jedrasiak of Clermont Auvergne.

:57:03. > :57:07.Tackled by Jedrasiak of Clermont Italy coming through, Campagnaro,

:57:08. > :57:14.Garcia, Sato inside of the ball still alive, no it is not. He has

:57:15. > :57:18.given a penalty. Very good start, kept the ball in hand, took the ball

:57:19. > :57:25.to the line, confident start by Carlo Canna. This guy is going to be

:57:26. > :57:32.in potential. If they can control the tempo of the game. That is in

:57:33. > :57:35.touch. It will be crucial for France but I think the Italians have got to

:57:36. > :57:43.start very strongly, try and silence the crowd. George Clancy is one of

:57:44. > :57:49.the touch judges. This is the run by Campagnaro supported by Garcia. This

:57:50. > :57:52.kid is very good, Campagnaro. Notice that there was a mismatch. He took

:57:53. > :58:06.it on. Guirado throws. that there was a mismatch. He took

:58:07. > :58:15.with the catch. Second penalty for France. That is what they must try

:58:16. > :58:23.and cut out, the Italian side. Discipline. It was in the France 22

:58:24. > :58:29.and now it will give France a good attacking position. Good afternoon,

:58:30. > :58:34.Carlo. Looking at the Italian second row, Biagi. He will play a vital

:58:35. > :58:40.role in securing Italy's best attacking ball this afternoon. One

:58:41. > :58:43.thing they have two eradicate is the mistakes and penalties given. Look

:58:44. > :58:47.at that, straight into the middle of the fight. Biagi will be crucial for

:58:48. > :58:53.Italy's line-out functioning this afternoon. Guirado to throw,

:58:54. > :58:58.attacking line-out to afternoon. Guirado to throw,

:58:59. > :59:09.particularly straight. Jedrasiak with the catch. Mayor Street in the

:59:10. > :59:17.second row. This is Louis Picamoles, the ball carrying number eight. Very

:59:18. > :59:21.good play by the Italians. The body angle was all right taking the ball

:59:22. > :59:32.in. They got under him and held him up. Very good play. Disappointing by

:59:33. > :59:37.France, just watch, good line-out ball, they hold him up and Parisse

:59:38. > :59:41.comes in as well and just added his weight. That was a good turnover for

:59:42. > :59:51.the Italians. Wenceslas Lauret Wareing B head cap at six. There is

:59:52. > :00:00.Louis Picamoles, Andrea Lovotti. Lorenzo Cittadini of Wasps in the

:00:01. > :00:07.interest Premiership. -- English Premiership. Carlo, you were talking

:00:08. > :00:16.about Rabah Slimani coming in at tight head. Because he has such a

:00:17. > :00:23.short, low centre of gravity tight it puts an enormous amount of

:00:24. > :00:29.pressure on the hooker and affects his strike. He must protect and make

:00:30. > :00:34.sure Slimani stays on the outside of the hooker. A quick strike, if the

:00:35. > :00:42.hooker is still strike these days, and Briceno gets over the gain line.

:00:43. > :00:46.-- Parisse. That is a good Italian scrum. Goes backwards says the

:00:47. > :01:05.referee, Parisse goes forwards. Oh! So close for Sarto. Nearly a

:01:06. > :01:09.piece of pure brilliance. Yeah, but that's the plan.

:01:10. > :01:18.The left-winger, he doesn't commit to this whatsoever. I think the call

:01:19. > :01:22.must have come... That's got to be the tactics. He hasn't played 15

:01:23. > :01:33.aside, they've got to target him. So, so close. But a great start.

:01:34. > :01:40.Sarto, what a start that would have been.

:01:41. > :01:52.A chance for Italy to have a crack at this French scrum. Too soon. Off

:01:53. > :02:02.they go. This is Picasso. He goes in high. Maul says JP Doyle. Good play

:02:03. > :02:06.by the ie tallens. They've turned it over once again. -- Italians. It's a

:02:07. > :02:10.by the ie tallens. They've turned it tactic of trying to hold up the

:02:11. > :02:11.ball. Picasso is massive for France. If he is the

:02:12. > :02:15.ball. Picasso is massive for France. go forward and changes the game, he

:02:16. > :02:22.is the one that's going to do it. Italy just clearly have to contain

:02:23. > :02:33.him and by doing that creating that maul and ruck. That's a great tackle

:02:34. > :02:38.by Minto. Again it's the discipline, from the scrum they've had a

:02:39. > :02:44.nudge-on and the free kick was given to France.

:02:45. > :03:08.Another good Italian scrum. Sarto. Garcia on his shoulder.

:03:09. > :03:25.Canna has to sort out a bit going backwards.

:03:26. > :03:39.The Italian backs are taking the game to the French. .

:03:40. > :03:49.Stuck on 22. Here comes the drop goal attempt. He likes it!

:03:50. > :03:55.That's beautifully struck by Carlo Canna and Italy take the lead.

:03:56. > :04:01.That's a positive start by the Italians, they've carried the ball

:04:02. > :04:07.exceptionally well. This is the tackle... Steps back in the pocket.

:04:08. > :04:11.Slots it over. That's a very confident start for the young

:04:12. > :04:16.standoff. Brilliant choice to go for the drop goal. Italy's play

:04:17. > :04:21.distribution was scattered all over the field. That's very well-taken by

:04:22. > :04:45.Fuser. It's a clever way of getting out of

:04:46. > :04:56.the 22, receiving the kick-off, inside the 22 but opening up that

:04:57. > :05:06.angle. It's a poor restart by France.

:05:07. > :05:34.Vakatawa, the winger. Penalty to France. Offside.

:05:35. > :05:43.The Italians will be happy with that. They should take the line and

:05:44. > :05:52.clear their lines. Quite surprised they went for the quick tap there.

:05:53. > :06:03.Maybe a kick with a touch line in field position. A bit of stoppage.

:06:04. > :06:05.Is it the hooker? Yeah. Got to stop. He is throwing the ball in the

:06:06. > :06:16.lineout. I think it's He is throwing the ball in the

:06:17. > :06:23.sorry it's the centre. It's Garcia. They look very confident, the

:06:24. > :06:37.Italian centre partnership. Guy Noves with the glasses and the suit.

:06:38. > :06:53.The hooker prepares to throw. JP Doyle... Don't jump out.

:06:54. > :07:10.Well taken Italy. Happy with ball in hand in their own

:07:11. > :07:18.22. The Italian halfbacks have made a start. It's structured on how to

:07:19. > :07:23.get from their 22. A short lineout. A brilliant take there. Play out to

:07:24. > :07:30.the loose forward standing off. It's a clear kick to clear the lines.

:07:31. > :07:34.Very methodical, very structured. Gori is a talented scrum-half.

:07:35. > :07:37.That's a wild lineout. When nobody can get into the air you know

:07:38. > :07:40.something's going on. Yeah. This will be an interesting decision, do

:07:41. > :07:47.they go for the corner or goal? The scrum-half is also the appointed

:07:48. > :08:07.kicker. Its me that France are the only

:08:08. > :08:14.nation where the scrum-half dictates the game for them. It's interesting.

:08:15. > :08:17.It amazing me they haven't got a standoff that can control the game.

:08:18. > :08:20.So many good footballers in France and they haven't a standoff to

:08:21. > :08:30.control for manage the international game. They're looking for one. Bezy

:08:31. > :08:35.to level the scores. He's pshed it. Italy after 12

:08:36. > :08:48.minutes remain in the lead. -- pushed it.

:08:49. > :08:55.I think Zanni has gone off. That's a lot of experience goes with him.

:08:56. > :09:18.95th cap. There he is. A bit of blood. He should be back. Yeah.

:09:19. > :09:29.Good feet by the French fullback. Danty.

:09:30. > :09:50.That brings the crowd to life. Danty in the centre. A chance for

:09:51. > :10:43.Lauret. Up to the 22. Vakatawa has opened France's

:10:44. > :10:49.account. That's a classy finish. He made that look very, very easy. They

:10:50. > :10:50.worked the numbers on the left side. I thought they had blown the

:10:51. > :10:55.opportunity. They I thought they had blown the

:10:56. > :11:02.over. That's a desperate tackle. That's the clever offload. It allows

:11:03. > :11:06.three on two. That's such a classy finish. Left foot step. Close to the

:11:07. > :11:16.touch. That's the crucial, that's the money ball. He holds the man up.

:11:17. > :11:23.Boom. That's a great, great finish. It's the wide, wide play. Players

:11:24. > :11:28.distributed across the field. They wanted to bring back an expansive

:11:29. > :11:36.style of play back to France and I think you see a bit of flair there.

:11:37. > :11:46.Yeah, the forwards really offloaded well. That's young Bezy. His second

:11:47. > :11:48.kick. He's pulled this one.

:11:49. > :11:57.kick. two. But France are in the lead.

:11:58. > :12:00.5-3. Again it's the offloading. The ball-carrying of the forward. The

:12:01. > :12:08.support of Picasso. He stayed down. ball-carrying of the forward. The

:12:09. > :12:20.That's the two on one. Like to see that angle again.

:12:21. > :12:33.Might have to see that again. From that angle... From the first angle

:12:34. > :12:48.it looked OK. From that angle... That's a great catch by Maestri. The

:12:49. > :13:03.forward on for France is Yacouba Camara, a real talent, has quick

:13:04. > :13:06.feet. JP Doyle has come over to the far side. Just confirmation there

:13:07. > :13:15.that far side. Just confirmation there

:13:16. > :13:25.coming back on. The applause is because Louis Picasso' day is over.

:13:26. > :13:30.-- Picamoles. Their principal ball carrier is very different. Picamoles

:13:31. > :13:50.is very heavy on his feet. Camara is light.

:13:51. > :13:56.Andrea Lovotti penalised by the referee. That's a shame. Every time

:13:57. > :14:10.they've come into the 22 they've given a penalty or free kick away.

:14:11. > :14:22.That's a great kick. From one 22 to the other. It's the bind. Lovotti's

:14:23. > :14:25.bind needs to be longer on the loose-head side and gives that extra

:14:26. > :14:25.bind needs to be longer on the stability that JP Doyle is looking

:14:26. > :14:30.for. Penalties will come in the first 20 minutes of a game

:14:31. > :14:34.especially if the referee is looking to set out his stall early on. This

:14:35. > :14:52.is the angle of the try. Question marks over the foot. This is it.

:14:53. > :14:58.It's close. Here come France again. Fabulous pass by Vakatawa. They do

:14:59. > :15:06.find touch in that corner this time. That's great defence. Vakatawa just

:15:07. > :15:12.oozes confidence. They're going wide. The centres there get caught

:15:13. > :15:19.up. If that ball was sprayed along. He steps inside. Looks for the

:15:20. > :15:24.offload. Medard is there. They rushed up and took the dummy run.

:15:25. > :15:42.The pass was very good. He's hit him on the back of the

:15:43. > :15:55.hands. He had his hands thumped as he went for the catch. I think the

:15:56. > :16:03.Italians will be happy. Carlo with the start. That's a poor kick. They

:16:04. > :16:09.won't be happy with that. Slow, slow, and then finds Fickou. France

:16:10. > :16:21.are on the move again. The oldest player in the French team

:16:22. > :16:58.is just 30. Back to Bezy. Brilliant play. Italy, there is a

:16:59. > :17:08.chance here. Danty is back.

:17:09. > :17:11.Bellini was up. Counter-rucking by the Italians. It

:17:12. > :17:15.should come back on their side. It does.

:17:16. > :17:24.I think they'll have to go wide then. They had a few men over on the

:17:25. > :17:29.right side. Great tackle. Offside. That was an opportunity. As soon

:17:30. > :17:34.right side. Great tackle. Offside. they counter-rucked and won that

:17:35. > :17:40.ball, they had to go wide. They had numbers on the right. Vakatawa was

:17:41. > :17:48.on his own. A missed opportunity. Well, they've gone from one end of

:17:49. > :17:55.the field to the other. Here is a worrying sight, Carlo. Garcia in a

:17:56. > :18:04.bit of bother. It's two players with experience on the pitch. They need

:18:05. > :18:09.to keep them on. They'll be pleased to see Zanni back. I am impressed

:18:10. > :18:15.with the ball carrying of the French front five. Even if they're not

:18:16. > :18:20.carrying it, they're coming in as dummy runners and offload is

:18:21. > :18:22.important, as wellment. The offloads now are creating numbers on the

:18:23. > :18:51.outside. Parisse is the top 14 of the year.

:18:52. > :18:57.Following us Scotland and England, the Calcutta Cup match. And room

:18:58. > :19:03.Ireland and Wales. A Six Nations rugby special after all the weekend

:19:04. > :19:09.matches on BBC Two, 7.00pm tomorrow evening.

:19:10. > :19:42.Chouly at the lineout. Here is the pass. It's off his own player.

:19:43. > :20:04.Kelly Haimona is going to come on for Italy. Looks as if Garcia will

:20:05. > :20:09.leave the pitch. REFEREE: Bind. Set. He's gone down again. He was lucky

:20:10. > :20:15.not to get penalised. Just get the ball in and get it out. If you are

:20:16. > :20:19.under pressure, get the ball to the number eight's feet as quickly as

:20:20. > :20:25.you can. The front row forwards play their own game, Jonathan. I know

:20:26. > :20:29.that. Why put themselves under pressure? Why would you want to be

:20:30. > :20:38.in that position? That's an awkward position to be in. We all know

:20:39. > :20:44.they're a breed of their own. All the action is happening on that side

:20:45. > :20:50.which needs to be sorted out or JP Doyle might take matters into his

:20:51. > :21:01.own hands. Parisse picks up and we are under way. Garcia. He looks all

:21:02. > :21:04.right now! He has recovered well. A chance for Sarto to close down.

:21:05. > :21:23.Italy on the move. Garcia gets on the outside of Danty.

:21:24. > :21:30.That's good defence there again by Vakatawa. He drifted across. Should

:21:31. > :21:36.have kept it in hand. Italy are taking this time about this lineout.

:21:37. > :21:42.I suspect it will be a catch and maul.

:21:43. > :21:47.First things first, the throw. maul.

:21:48. > :21:50.That's very well done. Hooks the ball to the front. On comes the

:21:51. > :21:56.drive. ball to the front. On comes the

:21:57. > :22:02.penalty. Advantage. Oh, clever! Sarto. He is beaten

:22:03. > :22:05.line. That's a very clever play. They had

:22:06. > :22:09.the free play because of the penalty. They tried to use it very,

:22:10. > :22:16.very effectively, as well. Lovely kick. Good communication. Winger on

:22:17. > :22:27.the outside shoulder. You have to feel... That's twice now he has lost

:22:28. > :22:38.the ball. In the act of try-scoring. What do they do here? It's the

:22:39. > :22:44.lineout they've gone for. Canna looks thoroughly at home on

:22:45. > :22:49.the international stage. He does. Slightly longer with the throw to

:22:50. > :22:55.Parisse. France have men on the floor. This could be set up for a

:22:56. > :23:06.very sweet drive for the line. Italy power their way over. Try for Italy.

:23:07. > :23:11.Sergio Parisse. The one and only. He is the scorer. That had real menace

:23:12. > :23:14.from the moment he caught the lineout. That was a well constructed

:23:15. > :23:18.maul. They lineout. That was a well constructed

:23:19. > :23:21.well. Sergio wins the ball in the lineout. The first three players

:23:22. > :23:25.take the pressure initially from France and then shift the point of

:23:26. > :23:32.contact to the outside. The ball is at the back. It's under control and

:23:33. > :23:40.it's moving forward. Clear decision there for JP Doyle to make. That's a

:23:41. > :23:43.very, very well constructed try. I am surprised four or five of the

:23:44. > :23:48.French forwards fell to the left side. They did. There were a lot of

:23:49. > :23:54.French shirts on the floor even before the maul got going. Before

:23:55. > :24:00.the second drive, whether they misread it, it was an easy finish

:24:01. > :24:10.for Parisse. Seems to be they were in two minds. Some were driving the

:24:11. > :24:20.maul back. It needs to be all circling or all driving.

:24:21. > :24:28.Vakatawa is preparing to charge conversion. Carlo

:24:29. > :24:29.Vakatawa is preparing to charge off. He still misses. I read the

:24:30. > :24:36.stats, I think he has a 70% success rate. That isn't good enough

:24:37. > :24:38.international level. They're doing so

:24:39. > :24:45.well, the backs are running with confidence. Those are the kicks you

:24:46. > :24:56.have to nail. You have to put those kicks over. This will land in the

:24:57. > :25:02.22. Caught by Parisse. He can still kick directly into touch. It's

:25:03. > :25:12.exactly what Gori does. But keeps it on the field of play. Taken by

:25:13. > :25:28.Great tackle. That tackle. The offload is there.

:25:29. > :25:37.Penalty against Italy. Let me see that again. One thing Italy are

:25:38. > :25:39.doing really well is that again. One thing Italy are

:25:40. > :25:44.committing that many numbers to the breakdown. You have a tackler and

:25:45. > :25:48.you have the one going in to disrupt the ball. The rest of the players

:25:49. > :25:52.are fanned out across the field which is helping them absorb this

:25:53. > :26:02.wide play that France are trying to do. Is that it? I think that's it.

:26:03. > :26:14.Nothing wrong with that. This is the one maybe.

:26:15. > :26:24.Nothing high there, is there? No. Out it comes for Bezy. Garcia up

:26:25. > :26:30.with the tackle. Italy hold Fickou up. The ball is to the ground. The

:26:31. > :27:04.line speed is good, as well. Vakatawa piles in. Penalty. He was

:27:05. > :27:11.isolated. Vakatawa went in there. Don't think the cleaning out

:27:12. > :27:15.technique was very good. This is where the French, the scrum-half has

:27:16. > :27:20.to take control here. They're not committing men to the tackle. Not

:27:21. > :27:24.committing men to the ruck. You have to pass them and take it up the

:27:25. > :27:27.middle and suck defenders in. You have to earn the right to go wide

:27:28. > :27:30.first of all and they're not doing that at the moment, France. It's

:27:31. > :27:39.brilliant defence and clever work. This is the turnover again.

:27:40. > :27:47.Isolated. Easy turnover. Looking at Vakatawa, he doesn't look a natural

:27:48. > :27:57.rucker. He has come from the sevens circuit, I know. Gori nudges the

:27:58. > :28:11.ball forward. It was a scrappy lineout for Italy.

:28:12. > :28:22.He will be a happy captain so far. He will be. Half an hour gone. Italy

:28:23. > :28:28.ahead by three points. That's the halfway mark. France have appeared,

:28:29. > :28:36.in flashes, but they've also been under the kosh.

:28:37. > :28:39.The Italians have attacked twice and come away with points.

:28:40. > :28:43.The Italians have attacked twice and nudge at the scrum. Bezy escapes.

:28:44. > :28:50.Wriggles out of the tackle by Parisse.

:28:51. > :29:01.They've made something out of an unpromising start.

:29:02. > :29:22.Vakatawa. Strength there by the winger.

:29:23. > :29:41.Garcia has done well. He has recovered well. He stayed on.

:29:42. > :29:57.Maestri makes half a yard. Vakatawa into the Italian 22. Oops! Was it a

:29:58. > :30:12.knock-on? It was. Taken quickly by Fickou. Medard. Lauret.

:30:13. > :30:23.The try is scored. Chouly in the corner. There is the tap. He sees

:30:24. > :30:27.the overlap. Second row and winger to defend. That's an easy finish for

:30:28. > :30:45.Chouly. Damien Chouly. There is the outrage

:30:46. > :30:51.of Sergio Parisse. Not exactly a soft try, Carlo.

:30:52. > :30:59.It is the advantage of playing a wired player. When they come across

:31:00. > :31:06.you have those players at York disposition to keep recycling the

:31:07. > :31:09.ball. Those who stayed wide from the previous rock are not playing the

:31:10. > :31:16.same movement, they are dropping directly back allowing them to play

:31:17. > :31:23.wide. The kick from Desi. He's missed two. They have not been easy

:31:24. > :31:35.but you expect these days. He has pulled it again. -- Bezy. France are

:31:36. > :31:39.in the lead 10-8. France are holding their width very well, but the one

:31:40. > :31:45.thing they were not doing before that try was they were not engaging

:31:46. > :31:51.the defensive line when they had overlaps. It is easy for the Italian

:31:52. > :32:04.defence to just drift. That is well taken again by Maestri. Camara.

:32:05. > :32:07.Plisson. Danty. Three passes and they are across the pitch, Gael

:32:08. > :32:18.Fickou gets out of the 22. Now they are back in it. Lease on. --

:32:19. > :32:23.Plisson. The chance for Odiete to counter. We have not really seen

:32:24. > :32:30.much of him, Odiete. We thought they would put pressure on him because he

:32:31. > :32:38.has only played at regional level. Alessandro Zanni. Not Parisse's best

:32:39. > :32:43.pass but it worked for Campagnaro. It is a knock-on by Bernini. France

:32:44. > :32:48.might make something of it. Gori It is a knock-on by Bernini. France

:32:49. > :32:55.makes the tackle, lovely to pass off the ground. Medard.

:32:56. > :33:04.makes the tackle, lovely to pass off Maestri picks up. Plisson, Medard,

:33:05. > :33:09.just got a little bit ahead of themselves on the touchline. They

:33:10. > :33:13.are giving it a go from everywhere, the French. And the Italians. They

:33:14. > :33:17.are doing everything well and tactically playing above the game as

:33:18. > :33:20.far as Italy are concerned, they are playing to their strengths, kicking

:33:21. > :33:26.when they need to kick and having a go when they need to. There was a

:33:27. > :33:33.clear line break down the middle of the pitch. The Italian backline,

:33:34. > :33:38.Campagnaro, has had a couple of nice breaks. If the ball had gone to hand

:33:39. > :33:43.they could have scored some tries. How important is that conversion? It

:33:44. > :33:58.could have been 10-10 and now they are behind. Yes. Yoann Maestri.

:33:59. > :34:04.Parisse wins the line-out and the forwards form a tight group around

:34:05. > :34:13.him immediately. See if they can get the driving maul going. Penalty

:34:14. > :34:15.advantage. I think that is what they were looking for. Sergio let it go.

:34:16. > :34:41.Parisse and Maestri. He knows what he's doing. He does.

:34:42. > :34:49.Just frustrating the French side. Frustrating the French spectators.

:34:50. > :34:54.Just a matter of time before they turn. It doesn't take much. There

:34:55. > :34:56.was hope and real support at the beginning for new France. It is

:34:57. > :35:16.quite quiet now. It has gone quiet. Carlo Canna, this to give Italy the

:35:17. > :35:34.lead again. They remain two points behind.

:35:35. > :35:41.Again, at this level you expect to see those go over. He will be happy

:35:42. > :35:46.with the way they are playing but he will have to turn those into points.

:35:47. > :35:52.It's a rare in the modern game to have five kicks and no successes.

:35:53. > :35:53.The standard of kicking in the modern game is outstanding and to

:35:54. > :35:58.see those missed, I modern game is outstanding and to

:35:59. > :36:03.is in shock. Leonardo Sarto sets off, he's had a busy first half,

:36:04. > :36:06.is in shock. Leonardo Sarto sets Italian. That

:36:07. > :36:09.is in shock. Leonardo Sarto sets and France have turned it over. But

:36:10. > :36:16.they have gone offside. So there will be time for the kick into the

:36:17. > :36:26.corner. And they will have a line-out and a maul and a drive.

:36:27. > :36:32.Let's see what he goes for, does he go for everything? No, difficult

:36:33. > :36:43.angle and it's not a bad kick. Sato takes the ball in. That hasn't been

:36:44. > :36:53.a very good battle. I'm not sure what the decision was for. Parisse.

:36:54. > :37:01.Good pass to Gori. Here come Italy peeling around. Parisse writes the

:37:02. > :37:07.challenge of Maestri. Canna dropped goal from this position but they are

:37:08. > :37:19.coming through by hand. Campagnaro. Put firmly to ground. Biagi. Gori to

:37:20. > :37:26.Canna, to Parisse. Parisse has been immense this half. We say it all the

:37:27. > :37:33.time but what they first half performance from Parisse. They need

:37:34. > :37:39.to be patient, the Italians. Move to the middle of the field or get a

:37:40. > :37:42.penalty, and have a 3-pointer to go in at half-time in front.

:37:43. > :37:47.Psychologically that would be great for the Italians, be patient,

:37:48. > :37:55.control it, go midfield. I think that's what they are planning. Marco

:37:56. > :37:58.Fuser, the second row, takes it up. Brilliant, off-loaded to Campagnaro

:37:59. > :38:04.and he will score if he can reach that he can't quite find the line,

:38:05. > :38:12.and away, France. Back at our. He's away again! Off he comes, the giant

:38:13. > :38:18.winger. He's had the most entertaining first half. Plisson

:38:19. > :38:18.tries to find the touch. We are in overtime,

:38:19. > :38:24.tries to find the touch. We are in first half comes to an end. France

:38:25. > :38:30.lead but we've had high excitement at the Stade de France, France 10-8

:38:31. > :38:37.Italy. Desperate tackle. Watch this off-loaded, lovely off-load again by

:38:38. > :38:39.the youngster, and that is a desperate tackle by Fickou. Oh! How

:38:40. > :39:01.close was that? STUDIO: You know there's's France go

:39:02. > :39:05.in ahead at half-time just. Possession well ahead, two thirds of

:39:06. > :39:09.the position for France, off-loads ahead quite considerably 14-4 and

:39:10. > :39:12.metres made, the running game, passing the ball through as many

:39:13. > :39:16.pairs of hands as they camp that he was looking for, and some of that

:39:17. > :39:20.was on show in the first half, there was good, bad and ugly. What do you

:39:21. > :39:25.think he will make of his first taste of international rugby? I'm

:39:26. > :39:29.surprised by Italy, but what should have been our strength in the front

:39:30. > :39:33.five, we are disappointed. I think Italy are much drunker than as in

:39:34. > :39:42.the drives and line-outs, they carry the ball very well. Defensively, 12,

:39:43. > :39:47.13, we are not organised and have created gaps and the Italians have

:39:48. > :39:50.taken some metres from our defence. We are struggling in that position.

:39:51. > :39:53.They looked like there were capitalising in all of the areas

:39:54. > :39:57.that we highlighted France were going to be weak in in that game.

:39:58. > :40:02.They did and they had a good breakdown, those five turnovers they

:40:03. > :40:06.won and France had non-, which is a pretty amazing statistic after 40

:40:07. > :40:10.minutes of rugby. France are not energetic at scrum time or at the

:40:11. > :40:13.ruck. That is unusual because we would have thought that is where

:40:14. > :40:16.they would have the bit of pizzazz and got stuck into it. Their energy

:40:17. > :40:20.level has been a bit lower. They seem to stand back a little bit for

:40:21. > :40:24.the first ten or 15 minutes and then they got a buzz with the first try

:40:25. > :40:27.but it took a bit of time before they got it and they were a bit

:40:28. > :40:31.nervous. Maybe we are expecting too much and we got caught up in some of

:40:32. > :40:36.the occasion that was here beforehand, but you do expect a

:40:37. > :40:39.French team that should be on top, and when they have the ball

:40:40. > :40:45.comfortably they are on top and they should take advantage of it and they

:40:46. > :40:49.haven't taken advantage. The debutants for Italy, Canna, at the

:40:50. > :40:53.heart of a lot of moves and Sato, who has more wrecks periods, didn't

:40:54. > :40:57.look at all overwhelmed. No, he didn't and that's the fault of the

:40:58. > :41:00.French team, you've got to put them under pressure. They had much too

:41:01. > :41:04.easy a start in the first 40 minutes, the debutants, and you've

:41:05. > :41:08.got to put pressure on them and make them feel uncomfortable. I agree

:41:09. > :41:12.with Keith, the French team looked nervous and they don't look to be

:41:13. > :41:16.playing with much confidence yet. They put pressure on Bakare Tower,

:41:17. > :41:21.Italy. He did get the try but they made him work and they saw where he

:41:22. > :41:24.would be exposed and make the most of the moments where he was unsure

:41:25. > :41:28.on the high balls and unsure in defence. Yes but we knew what his

:41:29. > :41:35.weaknesses would be, the high balls and defensively, he's a bit wide

:41:36. > :41:39.compared to Fickou, so he doesn't have centres, but when he has the

:41:40. > :41:42.ball he is a threat and he scored a try so he can make the difference.

:41:43. > :41:47.We need to move the ball as Carlo said, when we play wide wide we look

:41:48. > :41:54.interesting, Kante brings something special compared to Bastareaud, and

:41:55. > :41:58.we managed to move the ball. But we need to do it a bit more. We can

:41:59. > :42:03.have a look at the first try and Bakare tower, as you say, the best

:42:04. > :42:05.of him is when you get the ball wide and his feet as well, they were

:42:06. > :42:17.fantastic. -- Bakare That space becomes live and we have

:42:18. > :42:21.not seen that from France for a long time. Suddenly they are on the

:42:22. > :42:25.outside, Italy trying to put up as line and they tried to do it here.

:42:26. > :42:29.Decent line, lots of players coming up against them, but we just saw one

:42:30. > :42:33.player sneaking up on the outside and that's what you're looking for

:42:34. > :42:39.in attacking back. Even there we saw some players were walking. I think

:42:40. > :42:44.it is a brand-new team. We need to get into position a bit quicker and

:42:45. > :42:49.show more determination. Even if Picamoles made the difference, we

:42:50. > :42:55.could maybe have scored a bit earlier and that was a good option,

:42:56. > :43:05.Vakatawa. Was that a forward Pascua smack I have to say yes. -- was it a

:43:06. > :43:08.forward pass? The referee gave it but the touch judge was squatting

:43:09. > :43:11.down on the ground looking at where it was so he could make the call

:43:12. > :43:15.immediately and they didn't have to go upstairs, which is good. I want

:43:16. > :43:21.to take one quick point about what Matt said, as a debutante playing in

:43:22. > :43:24.a big arena like this it is so unbelievably hard, such a huge step

:43:25. > :43:27.up and that is where the pressure has to camp but there has not been

:43:28. > :43:33.that pressure, except maybe on the kicking team. Let's have a look at

:43:34. > :43:37.some of Italy's best work because they opened exceptionally well in

:43:38. > :43:43.the first few minutes of the game, Sarto on Vakatawa. It is obviously a

:43:44. > :43:47.game plan, positionally it will be tough coming from a sevens

:43:48. > :43:53.background and he will get caught out of position but he brings

:43:54. > :43:56.excitement to the team. As soon as he touches the ball the crowd get

:43:57. > :44:01.excited. But positionally his getting caught out. This was a Canna

:44:02. > :44:22.goalkick here. Sorry, the little dinked over. You are certain it is a

:44:23. > :44:26.try but then the tiny little fumble and he didn't want to kick it, he

:44:27. > :44:30.wants to run. I like that he's getting involved, it's his first

:44:31. > :44:31.test but he's trying his hand at things and playing with confidence.

:44:32. > :44:40.You would love things and playing with confidence.

:44:41. > :44:43.instead of kicking in front of the posts he takes the option to play.

:44:44. > :44:47.It's a bit surprising for Italy because they were getting into

:44:48. > :44:50.position and then he took the ball and score that try. That is a new

:44:51. > :44:56.spirit for the French team and a new way of playing. Let's have a look at

:44:57. > :45:07.Parisse's try. He is the class act in this 15. The game is going to be

:45:08. > :45:12.so much the less when that man picks up -- hangs up his boots. The focus

:45:13. > :45:16.and concentration has traditionally been Italy's strength. We didn't

:45:17. > :45:19.really expect it today. We thought the front five might struggle but

:45:20. > :45:24.that is incredibly good technical play. And the French team tried to

:45:25. > :45:28.jump and catch the ball but maybe they should have pushed it and then

:45:29. > :45:32.they struggled. If you push it you have to slow it down or drag

:45:33. > :45:35.somebody down, it is a technical thing. With a new coach and new

:45:36. > :45:40.players sometimes these things take time. We will come to the kicking in

:45:41. > :45:44.a moment which has been poor from both sides but Italy could have

:45:45. > :45:48.taken a nice jump ahead but for the kicking. The game is really in the

:45:49. > :45:54.balance. Frans didn't panic. But they didn't seem to have the

:45:55. > :45:57.urgency, did they? No, and as Matt said for the first 15 minutes we

:45:58. > :46:01.thought we would be much more aggressive and jump on these guys

:46:02. > :46:05.but we were waiting and let them build confidence. Even if Canna

:46:06. > :46:08.didn't score the points with his kicking, but the way he played and

:46:09. > :46:10.moved the ball was interesting in the first half, so they looked

:46:11. > :46:16.dangerous all the time. Go on. the first half, so they looked

:46:17. > :46:20.going to say what has been good for Canna is he has somebody like

:46:21. > :46:24.Parisse, when he misses the kicks Parisse will come and comfort him

:46:25. > :46:27.and making feel comfortable. The biggest thing France need to do is

:46:28. > :46:34.put pressure on him and make him feel as uncomfortable as possible.

:46:35. > :46:35.put pressure on him and make him because Fickou, we talked about

:46:36. > :46:41.France using inventiveness and doing something different and you got it

:46:42. > :46:46.here. You can see the naivete. They brought him into the French team and

:46:47. > :46:51.they want to take their options. But I think Fickou knows best what he

:46:52. > :46:53.can do and he's confident with that, that is why he the option. We've

:46:54. > :46:58.talked a lot this week about that is why he the option. We've

:46:59. > :47:01.Ireland's lack of competence picking guys who are 20 or 21.

:47:02. > :47:05.Ireland's lack of competence picking fearlessness of youth, they see

:47:06. > :47:06.there is a try and you have to go and do it, not what you

:47:07. > :47:12.there is a try and you have to go these situations, they go by gut

:47:13. > :47:16.instinct. If you think about French rugby it is almost

:47:17. > :47:19.It is enjoyable to watch that back again. Picking

:47:20. > :47:20.It is enjoyable to watch that back the half, to see Fickou do that and

:47:21. > :47:24.create that the half, to see Fickou do that and

:47:25. > :47:29.to what he wants to embrace. When they play with speed they look good,

:47:30. > :47:32.the most dangerous playing off-the-cuff, when they have that

:47:33. > :47:35.bit of unpredictable easy about them, that is when they looked most

:47:36. > :47:39.dangerous. His biggest message should be to go out there and play

:47:40. > :47:42.with no shackles and play with confidence and it will be a

:47:43. > :47:46.different team. When Italy give the ball to Medard, which was

:47:47. > :47:50.entertaining in the first half, he can make breaks and some steps. They

:47:51. > :47:54.don't want to do bad kicks, so they don't have many options and they

:47:55. > :47:58.need to put more pressure on the No 10 with the back rows. We don't have

:47:59. > :48:05.this tackling machine that we had in the past, so six and seven need to

:48:06. > :48:08.put more pressure on Italy. Let's see what Carlo Del Fava thinks with

:48:09. > :48:11.Lee McKenzie. Carlo, I'm sure if you'd been

:48:12. > :48:15.offered 10-8 at half-time before the match started you would have taken

:48:16. > :48:19.it. What has impressed you most about the Italian side?

:48:20. > :48:22.The way they are managing the game tactically. In attack they are

:48:23. > :48:26.kicking when they need to kick and being directed when they need to and

:48:27. > :48:29.taking chances when they come up and in defence they have been controlled

:48:30. > :48:34.and patient and transitioning between the two quite seamlessly and

:48:35. > :48:37.it shows the difference between having a coach in playful four years

:48:38. > :48:41.and a coach who has just come in and has not had a chance to put

:48:42. > :48:45.structures in. Well done by Italy in the first half but we need more of

:48:46. > :48:49.the same in the second. It will be interesting to see if they can

:48:50. > :48:52.maintain that in the second half, thank you, Carlo.

:48:53. > :48:56.We are half an hour away from the second match of this year's Six

:48:57. > :49:00.Nations at Murrayfield and new look England take on Scotland, maybe a

:49:01. > :49:06.new look Eddie Jones is the new man at the helm.

:49:07. > :49:12.What are England going to look like under Eddie Jones? I want them to be

:49:13. > :49:16.robust. Good teams are always robust, able to adjust, able to

:49:17. > :49:21.adapt, find a way of playing good rugby. Sometimes good rugby is

:49:22. > :49:24.kicking the ball high and chasing hard if circumstances dictate and

:49:25. > :49:28.other times it's moving the ball into space quickly and having the

:49:29. > :49:31.courage to take three on two ten yards from your own line and other

:49:32. > :49:37.times it might be having a driving scrum to keep the ball in and get a

:49:38. > :49:41.penalty and win the game 9-6. We got to be robust and adaptable and I

:49:42. > :49:45.want the team every time they play that the fans recognise the players

:49:46. > :49:50.in the team are doing everything they can to make sure England win.

:49:51. > :49:54.Your reaction on Twitter was good choice can a smart coach, cause a

:49:55. > :49:58.spade a spade and I've copped many sprays from him over the years. You

:49:59. > :50:02.are still in awe and fear of him come almost. What did he bring to

:50:03. > :50:06.your game? It's almost like if I saw him here I wouldn't know how to

:50:07. > :50:12.behave, he's that type of coach and he has that presence. For me he made

:50:13. > :50:17.me think differently about the game, differently about my team-mates and

:50:18. > :50:21.how I contribute to the team. He brings that selflessness. Whether

:50:22. > :50:25.England have been selfish in the past, they certainly won't be with

:50:26. > :50:29.Eddie moving forward. You were consulted on his appointment as

:50:30. > :50:35.well. I was called from the private number and they asked me to give

:50:36. > :50:39.very view on Eddie and I said he will be a great coach but you have

:50:40. > :50:42.to be ready to work. There are times at two or three in the morning and

:50:43. > :50:46.he will slip something under the door for the secretary and by six or

:50:47. > :50:50.seven he wants it back. He is a guy that does not sleep Dutch and he

:50:51. > :50:55.expects that from everyone else, but he's there for the right reasons, he

:50:56. > :50:58.wouldn't do it just for money. You could have sabotaged English rugby

:50:59. > :51:02.by giving him a bad review. Do you think he will get more out of these

:51:03. > :51:06.players than they realise they have? It is essentially the same group of

:51:07. > :51:11.players, he hasn't injected much new blood. No but what he will bring is

:51:12. > :51:16.accountability, he will make the players own how they want to play

:51:17. > :51:21.and from there they have then got to bring back to life. They've got to

:51:22. > :51:25.play with that aggression. He was saying there that he wants them to

:51:26. > :51:28.be robust and to be able to change and be versatile. These are the type

:51:29. > :51:33.of things he will bring to the table. Of course, when you come in

:51:34. > :51:37.like this and there is expectation, one game is not going to be a

:51:38. > :51:40.wholesale change for England. They will go there thinking they can get

:51:41. > :51:44.a result, that he's handled the last week or so wealth in terms of

:51:45. > :51:50.deflecting pressure away from the players. I think he is very

:51:51. > :51:56.entertaining and good craic in the press conferences and arrogant too.

:51:57. > :52:00.I think that suits England, it's not in a bad way. I do think this kind

:52:01. > :52:03.of deprecating thing they have had for the last four years didn't sit

:52:04. > :52:07.that well with them. England are used to being champions and used to

:52:08. > :52:11.winning all the time and they hadn't. They became very nice men

:52:12. > :52:14.over the last four years, and I don't think he likes any of that. He

:52:15. > :52:19.said he doesn't care how nice they are or not, he wants them to be

:52:20. > :52:23.winners. It is a big challenge and it will be good to watch. I'm not

:52:24. > :52:26.sure you care to much whether England do well not today, Tom

:52:27. > :52:31.Dascombe but what did you make of the appointment, you are smiling. It

:52:32. > :52:34.is always good to be a coach when you didn't play any games because

:52:35. > :52:37.you don't have any results but after two or three games he will feel the

:52:38. > :52:42.pressure, and his attitude with the press will be a bit different. What

:52:43. > :52:45.do you think we will see different from the England team in this Six

:52:46. > :52:50.Nations? What is the immediate thing we will notice? I just think that

:52:51. > :52:58.the players will be accountable, which means those little 1% things,

:52:59. > :53:01.if you think it is a bit hard, you will move there because you know

:53:02. > :53:04.that every part of your game will be dissected by Eddie. He has a system

:53:05. > :53:09.where everything positive gives you a plus and everything negative gives

:53:10. > :53:13.you a minus, hitting a ruck or not hitting Iraq. My first test against

:53:14. > :53:21.England I got -4 so you know if you played poorly. I still have that

:53:22. > :53:27.record! -- hitting a ruck. You were scared of him! The match has kicked

:53:28. > :53:33.off, let's go back to our Eddie, Eddie Butler.

:53:34. > :53:39.COMMENTATOR: France in possession, no changes from either side at

:53:40. > :53:43.half-time. There has been a change, Camara is on instead of Picamoles

:53:44. > :53:50.who was injured in the first half. Interception, this time Leonardo

:53:51. > :53:54.Sarto does hang onto the ball. He was in the clear twice in the first

:53:55. > :53:59.half. He read that very well, Sarto, spotting the overlap, nearly got the

:54:00. > :54:06.intercept, and he has a penalty for his side. Here is one of the shining

:54:07. > :54:12.lights of the first half, Young Carlo Canna. With ball in hand he's

:54:13. > :54:23.been very, very good. He has varied his kicking. But unfortunately. He

:54:24. > :54:33.missed off the tee. There we go, two men extra. Carlo Canna is big and

:54:34. > :54:34.strong, Leonardo Sarto. One of my favourites from the Academy. He's

:54:35. > :54:40.really promising. There we can see favourites from the Academy. He's

:54:41. > :54:44.Louis Picamoles not in a good state and missing him is a massive blow

:54:45. > :55:00.for France. France steel and Italian line-out. Delphic you. It has gone

:55:01. > :55:05.wrong for France in their own 22. -- steal the Italian line-out. --

:55:06. > :55:12.Fickou. It just went through the fingertips. Bonneval here. France

:55:13. > :55:16.tried to play the wide game. Difficult for the winner. We've

:55:17. > :55:31.hardly mentioned Bonneval so far. Yes. That's the touchline ban which

:55:32. > :55:39.Vakatawa tiptoed for his try. Here is Edoardo Gori feeding the scrum.

:55:40. > :55:55.Just looking at the angle of Rabah Slimani. He does turn in. JP Doyle,

:55:56. > :56:04.penalty Italy. Canna is going for goal.

:56:05. > :56:12.Imagine now how this young lad is feeling. He hasn't put one over yet.

:56:13. > :56:20.He's playing well. The pressure will be growing. We mentioned before

:56:21. > :56:25.Rabah Slimani coming in on the angle towards the hooker. Italy ideally in

:56:26. > :56:28.that situation would prefer a right-handed up on the scrum to get

:56:29. > :56:30.the fastball in and keeping the loose forwards as far away from

:56:31. > :56:38.Carlo Canna as possible. Nun from two, this is to put Italy

:56:39. > :56:59.in the lead. -- no kicks from two. That will take

:57:00. > :57:04.the pressure off. Unfortunately Biagi is off. The Italians will be

:57:05. > :57:30.happy. Biagi takes his leave. Valerio Bernabo is on. He took that

:57:31. > :57:34.very well. Another good drive by Italy and away comes Parisse. Well

:57:35. > :57:41.taken by Canna. That's great play Italy and away comes Parisse. Well

:57:42. > :57:50.again, straight under. And back to Canna and Campagnaro. Odiete. Canna

:57:51. > :57:56.again. Bellini comes around. There is a chance here, as Parisse comes

:57:57. > :58:02.close to the 22, Garcia into the French 22. The crowd watches in

:58:03. > :58:07.silence as Italy ask allsorts of questions. Good tackle by Eddy Ben

:58:08. > :58:14.Arous, the proper. questions. Good tackle by Eddy Ben

:58:15. > :58:28.Parisse. -- the prop. Sarto. Gori. He is in. On the blindside,

:58:29. > :58:34.Parisse for the line, and he's so close.

:58:35. > :58:37.Parisse for the line, and he's so hasn't made the line. It is a try

:58:38. > :58:41.for the man of the moment, Carlo Canna scores. Well, well, well.

:58:42. > :58:41.for the man of the moment, Carlo tell you what,

:58:42. > :58:44.for the man of the moment, Carlo with ball in hand, Canna.

:58:45. > :58:48.for the man of the moment, Carlo with Parisse for man of the first

:58:49. > :58:53.half, that says with Parisse for man of the first

:58:54. > :58:56.run by Parisse first and then finishes it. The Italians are

:58:57. > :58:59.totally dominating the first part finishes it. The Italians are

:59:00. > :59:06.the second half, dictating finishes it. The Italians are

:59:07. > :59:12.the pace has been played. I thought he was going to make it, but then

:59:13. > :59:18.the off-load, and that is a very simple try. And under all sorts of

:59:19. > :59:20.pressure from Amy and Julie who was miles offside. That

:59:21. > :59:23.pressure from Amy and Julie who was catch as well. That pressure all

:59:24. > :59:35.came from a clean kick-off by Bernardo. -- Chouly. You cannot put

:59:36. > :59:40.that tried down to catching the ball from the kick-off. I'm not having

:59:41. > :59:48.that! So often we see it happen the other way, drop ball, knock-on,

:59:49. > :59:50.scrum goes to the opposition. It is that discipline to maintain

:59:51. > :59:52.possession and that's the result. We will give him an assist for catching

:59:53. > :59:57.that. Canna with the kick. He's got it. He

:59:58. > :00:14.has got it. His confidence is up. Canna with the kick. He's got it. He

:00:15. > :00:18.Jacques Brunel, the coach of Canna with the kick. He's got it. He

:00:19. > :00:24.That was a great run and a great tackle, brilliant ball and brilliant

:00:25. > :00:31.angle. They deserve to be eight points in front, I have to say. Away

:00:32. > :00:39.comes Campagnaro but JP Doyle's whistle sounded. Deliberate

:00:40. > :00:46.knock-on, no it wasn't deliberate, that would be a penalty, it is just

:00:47. > :00:50.a scrum. This is Parisse. Vakatawa comes in now with a fantastic

:00:51. > :00:54.tackle. The defence are all over the place. He is having a brilliant

:00:55. > :01:04.match. I think everyone is shocked by the

:01:05. > :01:09.scoreline so far. No one expected this.

:01:10. > :01:14.And Italy have taken one against the head. Away comes Gori. Bezy gets in

:01:15. > :01:30.the way. Danty.

:01:31. > :01:36.Fickou runs into Chouly. France are struggling to build momentum and

:01:37. > :01:39.continuity. As soon as they get anything that happens that's good

:01:40. > :01:44.resembling going forward, it breaks down and it's turnover ball. If

:01:45. > :01:50.there is anybody that's going to change it, if that's man Jonathan

:01:51. > :01:54.Danty. They're too loose at the moment, I feel. Everything is going

:01:55. > :01:58.wide. The Italian defence is very well organised. Their line speed is

:01:59. > :02:02.good. They're not getting anywhere. They've got to go forward, pick and

:02:03. > :02:06.drive, pick and drive. Suck defenders in and then go wide.

:02:07. > :02:14.They're just not doing it at the moment. Who runs the defence, Carlo,

:02:15. > :02:18.is it Garcia? Jacques Brunel is the initial instruction. Garcia is

:02:19. > :02:22.instrumental and it's very important that stays on the pitch. The free

:02:23. > :02:41.kick will now come. Up charges Sarto. It's a French

:02:42. > :02:52.throw. Five metres from their own line. They're putting all the

:02:53. > :03:09.pressure on the French. That's a poor take.

:03:10. > :03:21.The captain with the throw. Safely taken by Maestri.

:03:22. > :03:36.France's first drive from a lineout and maul. It's a good one too.

:03:37. > :03:45.Vakatawa with the follow-up tackle. Holding on to it. Good chase.

:03:46. > :03:52.Vakatawa was in there. Good support, as well. Tries to stay on his feet

:03:53. > :04:10.to give his players a little bit more time to get behind him.

:04:11. > :04:45.Now we start the changes, on to the field come giant figures

:04:46. > :05:04.They've to use it quickly. Into the arms of Garcia.

:05:05. > :05:17.The first touch for Atonio. 145 kilograms of him. Plisson plays

:05:18. > :05:31.scrum-half. A charge by Poirot. A change of

:05:32. > :05:39.tactic by Plisson, works well for him. Now the forwards arrive. Good

:05:40. > :05:47.defence again. Driven back in attack. Given the defensive line

:05:48. > :05:52.time to get organised. Italy allowed to play on.

:05:53. > :05:57.Garcia puts it deep into the French 22. Italy are just where they want

:05:58. > :06:03.to be. That's a great kick again. Left peg. Along the ground. The

:06:04. > :06:05.problem, it doesn't seem to have any leadership whatsoever.

:06:06. > :06:10.problem, it doesn't seem to have any the French at the moment. Rather

:06:11. > :06:15.than being as a team, it's all individual stuff. Some is coming

:06:16. > :06:18.off, but they're not threatening. I don't feel the Italian defensive

:06:19. > :06:21.line is threatened whatsoever. They're so confident. They're

:06:22. > :06:24.comfortable in what they're doing. At the moment they've a lot to do

:06:25. > :07:09.France to get back into this game. He has to come inside. Fickou makes

:07:10. > :07:12.the tackle in the end. Again it's a penalty against Italy at the

:07:13. > :07:30.breakdown. He was going across the field,

:07:31. > :07:44.breakdown. He was going across the really, was he? No one offered

:07:45. > :07:49.themselves. France have to rebuild, start again from their own half.

:07:50. > :07:55.They've to try to put pressure on the Italians in their own 22. They

:07:56. > :08:29.seem to have this attitude of going wide from everywhere.

:08:30. > :08:38.Italy get back to help their fullback. At the minute they have

:08:39. > :08:47.numbers. Into touch.

:08:48. > :08:53.Italy's Minto is going through an awful lot of work. You see Italy

:08:54. > :08:59.here with numbers on the outside and not using that angle back into touch

:09:00. > :09:08.to find some more real estate. The ball gets bundled into touch. On

:09:09. > :09:16.that kick, the first one back is Minto. There is Luke McLean, he is

:09:17. > :09:22.on the field. It's David Odiete coming off. I think that's a clever

:09:23. > :09:28.tactical change because Odiete hasn't done much. He hasn't had to

:09:29. > :09:33.do much. What McLean offers is a good kicking option with a left

:09:34. > :09:42.foot. He has come on to complement Canna. If they need to play this in

:09:43. > :09:54.the French 22 that's the option they need.

:09:55. > :10:02.Parisse read it sue personally -- superbly well and took the French

:10:03. > :10:22.throw. Very quiet here.

:10:23. > :10:27.just feel the Italians are controlling this game. With Parisse

:10:28. > :10:31.and Gori they're controlling the tempo of the game. As the boys said

:10:32. > :10:38.in the studio, when it's played at pace, France look at their best. But

:10:39. > :10:43.they're slowing everything down, the tackles are good. They're causing

:10:44. > :11:06.problems in the resettling of the ball.

:11:07. > :11:13.There is space there. It's Sarto flying up. Everything is causing

:11:14. > :11:16.France problems at the flying up. Everything is causing

:11:17. > :11:22.they're doing, they're going wide, OK. Then they're forcing the French

:11:23. > :11:28.back line to come up and the guy who pushed that into touch was the

:11:29. > :11:31.covering winger. They're playing very, very well the Italians,

:11:32. > :11:35.tactically astute. I think it's the best I have seen Italy play for a

:11:36. > :11:38.long time. Everyone expected the youngsters to be inexperienced and

:11:39. > :11:44.under pressure, they've really stepped up to the plate. They've got

:11:45. > :11:57.to keep it going now for the remainder of the game. Vakatawa

:11:58. > :12:10.comes away with it. Anything could happen yet.

:12:11. > :12:28.Slow everything down now. Doesn't seem to be any urgency in the

:12:29. > :12:32.Slow everything down now. Doesn't play at the moment. No, it's a long

:12:33. > :12:43.time since they've had any sustained period of time in the Italian half.

:12:44. > :12:48.It's overthrown this time. It's a knock-on, advantage to Italy.

:12:49. > :12:51.They're starting to knock-on, advantage to Italy.

:12:52. > :12:58.Italian lineout. They need to keep it solid.

:12:59. > :13:06.JP Doyle, giving Italy the advantage there. He has given France the

:13:07. > :13:12.scrummage. If they've got to go on and win this game they've to cut the

:13:13. > :13:19.errors out. It's crucial they win the lineout ball. Lineout ball is

:13:20. > :13:23.the best attacking ball and losing a lineout in the French half is

:13:24. > :13:28.something you can not afford. It's important the new front row get

:13:29. > :13:31.their processes right in the scrumming and get more pressure on

:13:32. > :13:45.to this French front five. Vakatawa. Looks for the offload.

:13:46. > :14:04.Huge strength by the winger. A real chance now for France.

:14:05. > :14:14.They crank it up inside the 22. He is in. Try for the French winger.

:14:15. > :14:37.Will it go to review? Graham Hughes, the television match

:14:38. > :14:46.official. That's exactly what we said when they play at pace, they're

:14:47. > :14:56.dangerous. It's coming up now. Poor communication there. Try.

:14:57. > :15:06.Yeah, that's cool. That is a try. That should not have been scored.

:15:07. > :15:11.The communication was poor and they - the Italian players went with the

:15:12. > :15:15.same man which allowed the other winger to go down the touchline.

:15:16. > :15:20.He's come from the wrong side, but the opportunity there, they had

:15:21. > :15:26.He's come from the wrong side, but it. He stepped in.

:15:27. > :15:31.They love this guy over here, Vakatawa. He made the initial break

:15:32. > :15:43.on the right. Change of kicker, change of

:15:44. > :15:46.fortunes. Jules Plisson adds the conversion and France are within one

:15:47. > :15:54.point. They've got the numbers. He steps in because he has a prop on

:15:55. > :15:58.the inside. That's what happens. Zanni steps in because he is

:15:59. > :16:02.watching... He has to stay out. If he stays out, that try is not

:16:03. > :16:14.scored. We are into the last quarter of the match. Carlo Canna starts

:16:15. > :16:26.again. The try scorer, Hugo Bonneval.

:16:27. > :16:39.A fine kick. The crowd has come to life. France still trail by that

:16:40. > :16:42.single point. This is a try. He steps in and they were covering

:16:43. > :16:49.defenders. He has to stay out. Communication. Although it's a prop,

:16:50. > :16:59.you have got to trust your inside defender and stay out.

:17:00. > :17:16.Italy win a lineout. Bellini. Campagnaro has lost it.

:17:17. > :17:17.Turnover ball for France. Danty comes away with it. Oh,

:17:18. > :17:42.interception. The whistle has gone. Such a dangerous runner, Danty.

:17:43. > :17:46.Campagnaro can't hang on to the ball. He had a little look up,

:17:47. > :17:58.didn't he? Now the Calcutta Cup match from

:17:59. > :18:07.Murrayfield immediately after this game in Paris. That's a big game.

:18:08. > :18:14.And tomorrow Ireland versus Wales. 3.00pm. Rugby special on BBC Two

:18:15. > :18:40.tomorrow at 7.00pm. REFEREE: Crouch. Bind. Set. France

:18:41. > :18:41.just inside their own half. Here he is. Vakatawa.

:18:42. > :18:50.just inside their own half. happens always, the ball gets left

:18:51. > :19:00.behind. Plisson. Bonneval cuts inside. Bellini with the tackle.

:19:01. > :19:05.Another pass hits the deck. Poirot the prop.

:19:06. > :19:14.Camara the wing forward. The captain let's it go. There was an

:19:15. > :19:20.opportunity there. Oh, hang on. Bellini grateful to hear the

:19:21. > :19:24.whistle. Italy under serious pressure in that

:19:25. > :19:32.last scrum against France. Wouldn't be surprised if you saw a

:19:33. > :19:35.replacement coming on. He wasn't expecting that. Don't understand

:19:36. > :19:38.players who don't expect the ball to come to them. When you are on the

:19:39. > :19:51.rugby pitch you should expect the ball to come to you, that's the

:19:52. > :20:04.whole point of the game. He caught his head on the knee, I think. There

:20:05. > :20:10.he is, he will nudge ahead in the most capped list, Martin

:20:11. > :20:15.Castrogiovanni. Catches the knee on the back of the head. No intent

:20:16. > :20:25.there. Surprised he hasn't gone off to have a check. And assessment.

:20:26. > :20:31.After that try now the atmosphere's come back. The crowd's got behind

:20:32. > :20:38.them. I think they think they're winning. I do! They're still one

:20:39. > :20:46.point behind. It's a lovely day in Paris, not clear sky overhead but

:20:47. > :20:59.high, wispy cloud. The floodlights are on. France still trail.

:21:00. > :21:46.Parisse chases. have that. Now

:21:47. > :21:48.Parisse chases. get back. The ball is in touch as

:21:49. > :22:01.Vakatawa went down on it. get back. The ball is in touch as

:22:02. > :22:07.flying down. There is the hit. There is the pass. For one second I

:22:08. > :22:13.thought Zanni was going for the intercept. Changes in the Italian

:22:14. > :22:37.front row. A few big rigs just ran on that

:22:38. > :22:44.field now. Solid up front and they need to get straight into this game

:22:45. > :22:49.now. There is a bit of daring shown by Italy. That's well-worked, as

:22:50. > :23:11.well. Well managed. But, here comes Vakatawa.

:23:12. > :23:18.Here he is again. The large, imposing front row forwards happy in

:23:19. > :24:05.midfield. That's good defence by Italy,

:24:06. > :24:15.getting the winger into touch. 66 minutes gone. Italy lead by one

:24:16. > :24:21.point. Here it comes. Canna stands his ground. You said before, Carlo,

:24:22. > :24:25.that they don't want the big guys running at Canna but he stood up

:24:26. > :24:32.strongly today. He stood his ground. I think he is full of confidence at

:24:33. > :24:35.the moment. Him being an ex-policeman himself he is not going

:24:36. > :24:42.to stand back and this big running machine at you, he stands his

:24:43. > :24:48.ground, makes his hit. Fair play to Canna there. I think he has played

:24:49. > :24:53.exceptionally well. Has to work on his kicking. His percentage, his

:24:54. > :25:36.success he has to get up:. Bonneval waits. Under pressure from

:25:37. > :25:44.Canna. A good take. Plisson now. Danty again. They pile into the

:25:45. > :25:57.ruck. Penalty to France. Plisson has to

:25:58. > :26:23.have a go for this. That's not a great sight. Catch by Hugo Bonneval.

:26:24. > :26:43.Just trying to see who is injured. I think it's Medard. The fullback?

:26:44. > :27:23.That's the distance. Here is the kicker, Jules Plisson.

:27:24. > :27:31.Beautifully struck. Distance not a problem at all. Went sailing

:27:32. > :27:40.through. The new coach Guy Noves is happy enough. France nr the lead.

:27:41. > :27:45.Looking at the last two strikes that Plisson has kicked I can understand

:27:46. > :27:53.why Bezy started, because he has nailed the last two kicks. Maestri

:27:54. > :28:08.with the call and the catch. That's a good kick. Luke McLean,

:28:09. > :28:22.deep in his 22. That's a long hit too.

:28:23. > :28:41.What's this ball going to do? Parisse has it. There is time. 69

:28:42. > :28:46.minutes gone. France in the lead. It has been a struggle for them but

:28:47. > :28:50.they've sort of eased their way back into this game after a very nasty

:28:51. > :28:55.period at the start of the second half. A little bit too far that

:28:56. > :29:23.kick. Lauret comes away with it. Atonio goes in.

:29:24. > :29:29.Parisse read that before anybody else.

:29:30. > :29:34.Don't need to panic, Italy, at the moment. They need a bit of

:29:35. > :29:36.possession. They haven't had possession for a lot of the last ten

:29:37. > :30:06.minutes. He thought the ball was going dead.

:30:07. > :30:20.The chase wasn't on. It could be on here.

:30:21. > :30:34.Castrogiovanni, tackled by Poirot. The penalty is to Italy.

:30:35. > :30:55.Good tackle. Discipline is important now. There is the great Serge

:30:56. > :31:07.Blanco. Luke McLean. This is to give Italy a line-out. How deep into the

:31:08. > :31:19.French half? Jefferson Poirot. Cap number one. This is Danty and on for

:31:20. > :31:29.France Flanquart. It is Paul Jedrasiak who goes off. It's very

:31:30. > :31:33.important Italy mail this line-out with eight minutes to go and two

:31:34. > :31:47.points behind. Maintaining possession is absolutely crucial.

:31:48. > :31:57.The way they come and it's one of the workhorse performers. Canna.

:31:58. > :32:05.Canna has a chance to put Italy back in the lead. Francesco Minto today,

:32:06. > :32:11.Carlo. There he is. He has been exceptional and his workrate has

:32:12. > :32:16.been unreal. He's playing the best I think I've seen him since his

:32:17. > :32:20.comeback from injury with his neck. He's maintaining possession and

:32:21. > :32:25.going into ruck after ruck, maintaining his tackles, first at

:32:26. > :32:30.the breakdown, absolute workhorse. He's looking at that decision on the

:32:31. > :32:36.television and thinking it is not a penalty. He was supporting him with

:32:37. > :32:40.his own body weight and that is what the decision is for. Not Canna,

:32:41. > :32:44.Kelly Haimona is going to take the kick. He puts his head in his hands.

:32:45. > :32:53.He has not got a great kick. He puts his head in his hands.

:32:54. > :32:57.Canna, may be. I don't know! Canna was receiving treatment, and still

:32:58. > :33:08.is, so maybe that's why he's taking the kick.

:33:09. > :33:14.It's over, it's good and Kelly Haimona looks as cool as anything.

:33:15. > :33:23.He's just put his team into the lead. France 20-21 Italy. Fantastic

:33:24. > :33:29.kick under pressure, well done, Kelly. Last year's kicking stats

:33:30. > :33:29.were not up to scratch and putting that first kick onto the plate. Here

:33:30. > :33:36.he is again, he's not afraid that first kick onto the plate. Here

:33:37. > :33:43.physical side of things, Haimona. The tackle by Camara. Parisse was

:33:44. > :33:55.back on his feet and he was tackled in another close decision. He is

:33:56. > :34:02.going for gold, I think. Jules Plisson looked at JP Doyle. I think

:34:03. > :34:06.he's looking at Jean-Marc Doussain who is about to come on. May be

:34:07. > :34:16.Plisson is about to be replaced and he said stay I'm taking this. He's

:34:17. > :34:24.moving the ball forward. Was he tackled? It is a high tackle. It is

:34:25. > :34:31.a high tackle and the penalty should have gone to the Italians. But he

:34:32. > :34:41.was held. This is a big kick. I suppose he is held there. That is a

:34:42. > :34:46.monster of a kick. Huge kick by Jules Plisson and France are in the

:34:47. > :34:51.lead, 23-21 and Parisse still doesn't believe it was a penalty. I

:34:52. > :34:56.thought it was a harsh decision, I thought it may have been a high

:34:57. > :35:05.tackle. This is an absolute belter of a kick. Slight misunderstanding,

:35:06. > :35:09.but I think France got away with it, Machenaud could have got in the way

:35:10. > :35:24.of the forwards but it safely back in the hands of Plisson. Parisse.

:35:25. > :35:41.Minto has to sort out the bit of static play. Castrogiovanni to

:35:42. > :35:47.Bellini. Parisse shrugs off Wenceslas Laurent's tackle.

:35:48. > :36:01.Castrogiovanni has to be careful. Gori.

:36:02. > :36:18.Canna. Haimona. He gets the ground. Here is Canna. McLean. They just

:36:19. > :36:24.need to be patient, patient and Here is Canna. McLean. They just

:36:25. > :36:30.chance might come. Scrum to Italy, time is running out for them, less

:36:31. > :36:39.than three minutes to go. Danty is in a bit of trouble. I think he's

:36:40. > :36:55.got cramp. I think Canna has got cramp as well. Good tackle by

:36:56. > :37:01.Flanquart, who has not been on long. I've been very impressed with Italy

:37:02. > :37:03.today, I have to say. Jean-Marc Doussain coming on. We all feared

:37:04. > :37:08.this might have been a rout. I Doussain coming on. We all feared

:37:09. > :37:12.thought it might have been as well but they've been exceptional, they

:37:13. > :37:17.have varied their play and I've been impressed with Italy's commitment.

:37:18. > :37:24.And the way they have thrown the ball about. Discipline was a point

:37:25. > :37:31.with France, they tried to play an expansive game but haven't had the

:37:32. > :37:35.platform to do it. There is still an opportunity, Carlo, for Italy to win

:37:36. > :37:39.this game. They've got the ball, they've got the scrum, they've got

:37:40. > :37:44.to go into the midfield and maybe try and get a penalty, or go for the

:37:45. > :37:49.drop goal. That is what they have to try and plan and orchestrate from

:37:50. > :37:53.Canna now. Canna has just gone off the field. It is strange when they

:37:54. > :37:59.might need a drop goal that he's just gone off. Haimona to control

:38:00. > :38:10.things now. Better just gone off. Haimona to control

:38:11. > :38:15.Haimona in the back client and Palazzani has come on at full-back

:38:16. > :38:22.and he's a scrum-half. He has played a lot at full-back for his club, and

:38:23. > :38:27.Luke McLean has moved to the wing. It's a shame because Canna showed

:38:28. > :38:32.what he could do with the ball. He was walking off with cramp. I think

:38:33. > :38:38.he's been the best player this afternoon. Yes, he's been very good.

:38:39. > :38:45.And it's a shame to lose him at this period of the match when you're

:38:46. > :38:50.looking for that little bit extra. Gori in the scrum, Parisse

:38:51. > :38:56.controlling it at the back, Italy looking for the penalty. The referee

:38:57. > :39:02.does not give it to them. Castrogiovanni has a little smile,

:39:03. > :39:12.as does Guillermo Guirado. 80,000 French supporters screaming for the

:39:13. > :39:19.ball to come out. JP Doyle. Italy looking for the penalty. You see, it

:39:20. > :39:26.can be a happy place. When the final whistle goes is when everyone will

:39:27. > :39:34.be happy. It's a very, very nervous place at the moment. It is. Atonio

:39:35. > :39:40.freshens up, stoops back into the scrum. One chance for Italy and that

:39:41. > :39:49.will be it, there will not be another chance for France. They've

:39:50. > :39:58.got to try and take it. Here we go. It is a massive call from JP Doyle.

:39:59. > :40:09.Anything beyond a short arm penalty, I don't think.

:40:10. > :40:21.He's having stern words with the Italian front row. They are some way

:40:22. > :40:28.off a penalty at the moment. Last chance for Italy. Here we go, 79: 30

:40:29. > :40:33.gone, in the closing seconds. It would be their first-ever win in

:40:34. > :40:46.Paris, they trailed by two points. Going nowhere. Parisse picks up.

:40:47. > :41:03.Haimona. Parisse. It has to be him, something inspired by their captain.

:41:04. > :41:07.France had to keep discipline. Gori. Castrogiovanni sets up the malt. It

:41:08. > :41:11.is too far out at the moment. For the drop goal? Yes, too far out. --

:41:12. > :41:19.sets up the maul. the drop goal? Yes, too far out. --

:41:20. > :41:28.it, Haimona knows the drop goal isn't on, they have to run. He takes

:41:29. > :41:35.contact. We are into overtime. Italy still in possession. Luke McLean.

:41:36. > :41:42.They have to use it. They've made no ground at all. France rush up in

:41:43. > :41:46.defence again. They know they are not going to compete on the floor

:41:47. > :41:54.now, France. Because they've got to be squeaky-clean. Minto sets up

:41:55. > :42:01.another drive. Italy come away with it. Are they in drop goal range?

:42:02. > :42:12.Parisse takes it off. Nobody has dropped back yet. It's too far for

:42:13. > :42:25.him, I think. Italy have to use it. REFEREE: Use it! Away they come.

:42:26. > :42:38.Minto. Edoardo Gori. Strong running still by the Italians, edging into

:42:39. > :42:43.range. Haimona is back. Not yet. The hooker. It is on the wrong side,

:42:44. > :42:55.they need to go middle. Castrogiovanni tackled by

:42:56. > :43:07.Still they come. They are ground. It is Parisse. He has

:43:08. > :43:14.missed. He has missed. Wonderful performance by Sergio Parisse. A

:43:15. > :43:17.heroic performance by the whole Italian side, but France have,

:43:18. > :43:27.through, they have squeaked their way to a win. It is France 23-21

:43:28. > :43:34.Italy. I can't understand why Parisse did it. I know Parisse is a

:43:35. > :43:51.great player. Not even close. Poor old Sergio

:43:52. > :43:56.Parisse, he was going to be the one who accepted the responsibility. I

:43:57. > :44:00.don't know why. From a tactical point of view Italy were better than

:44:01. > :44:01.France and it took a beautiful Ali great moment from Jules

:44:02. > :44:09.France and it took a beautiful Ali a kick slotted over, they can take

:44:10. > :44:13.something away from the game. France have a lot of building to do but

:44:14. > :44:19.from the Italian point of view next week and the whole of the Six

:44:20. > :44:27.Nations need to be this. STUDIO: That is perhaps not what was

:44:28. > :44:28.predicted 80 minutes ago, dramatic finish and controversial in many

:44:29. > :44:35.ways. The penalty that Italy conceded to

:44:36. > :44:39.France, which eventually earned them the victory. It wasn't an easy

:44:40. > :44:42.victory and it wasn't easy to watch, it was a nervy performance, wasn't

:44:43. > :44:54.it? And it doesn't feel like a glorious start to Guy Noves's reign.

:44:55. > :44:58.I said before the game we could not be worse than the World Cup and

:44:59. > :45:01.today we were. Italy have to take credit for their performance but as

:45:02. > :45:06.a team we did not deliver. We showed some good skills and at one stage we

:45:07. > :45:11.moved the ball well. But in the forwards, the toughness of the game,

:45:12. > :45:15.I think the back row struggled a lot, and Italy played really well. I

:45:16. > :45:19.think some of the skills were fantastic and some of the attitude

:45:20. > :45:24.and energy was very low. We will get more thoughts in a moment from you

:45:25. > :45:29.but at the touchline Lee McKenzie is there with Campagnaro.

:45:30. > :45:34.Michele is it mixed emotions because Italy played so well but just missed

:45:35. > :45:44.out on the victory? It wasn't easy for us today. France's squad is very

:45:45. > :45:51.hard to beat here at home. I think we put in the right commitment. And

:45:52. > :45:56.maybe with just something more we could go back to Italy with an

:45:57. > :46:01.important one today. Today is disappointing. What please view the

:46:02. > :46:08.most about Italy's performance? Where were you the strongest? Right

:46:09. > :46:16.now we try to dominate with our scrum. And we have a lot of good

:46:17. > :46:23.players, important players, with very good experience. So, I mean,

:46:24. > :46:28.the scrum is very important for us. Bad luck today and well

:46:29. > :46:31.the scrum is very important for us. STUDIO: Company are along with Gori

:46:32. > :46:36.and Canna, great performances from those individuals and Parisse was so

:46:37. > :46:39.many times the hero. This is the penalty that the game hung on. He

:46:40. > :46:45.thought he would earn the penalty for Italy. He did, there was a clip

:46:46. > :46:49.across the side of the head but I thought he ducked into it and the

:46:50. > :46:53.referee got it right, he held on and was pulled over at the end and he

:46:54. > :46:58.could not hold on. Look at this, 54 metres, incredible kick and it

:46:59. > :47:03.sailed over from Plisson. Just before that they wanted to replace

:47:04. > :47:08.Plisson and he wanted to take the kick, unbelievable. I wanted to say

:47:09. > :47:11.something on Italy. Zebre and Treviso has been very poor in the

:47:12. > :47:14.Champions Cup and really poor and have been dreadful in the Pro12 and

:47:15. > :47:18.that is an incredible performance from players who are not playing at

:47:19. > :47:22.a high standard. But when they put on the blue Jersey they seem to give

:47:23. > :47:25.a bit more. I thought they played much better and have unearthed a

:47:26. > :47:29.couple of great players from the youth team. Canna in particular, to

:47:30. > :47:34.come in with no experience at this level of test rugby in a cauldron

:47:35. > :47:40.like here at the Stade de France was fantastic. Intuitive, creative, and

:47:41. > :47:46.if you can get his playing sorted out -- kicking sorted out you have a

:47:47. > :47:50.player. When he started playing with confidence I thought he was

:47:51. > :47:55.fantastic. Along with the whole Italian team I thought they probably

:47:56. > :47:56.deserved to win. He found his kicking boots early in the second

:47:57. > :47:59.half and kicking boots early in the second

:48:00. > :48:03.confidence and then he got an individual try. Even if he didn't

:48:04. > :48:06.start the game well because he missed important kicks then he

:48:07. > :48:09.managed to come back and I think he was helped by the French back row

:48:10. > :48:14.who didn't put enough pressure on him. He managed to get into the game

:48:15. > :48:18.and run and create gaps in the French defence which was not really

:48:19. > :48:22.reactive. He had a purple patch of about three minutes when everything

:48:23. > :48:26.seemed to go right for him and there was this perfect line. There was a

:48:27. > :48:30.bit of a gap. Chouly was very important today. I didn't like the

:48:31. > :48:34.way he played and he was slow getting back, he ran the offside

:48:35. > :48:40.line. In fairness to Canna he knew exactly what he had to do and picked

:48:41. > :48:44.out the player to shepherd him all the way back over. You could see the

:48:45. > :48:49.high catch, Chouly should not have been there and been back far sooner

:48:50. > :48:53.and blocked Canna. Big game for Italy having Sergio Parisse back

:48:54. > :48:58.today. He was missed in the World Cup. He had 21 carries in that game,

:48:59. > :49:02.twice any of his team-mates and Italy look like a team that will not

:49:03. > :49:05.be a walkover in the Six Nations and they were unlucky today. You hope

:49:06. > :49:08.they play with that same spirit. This is the first game of the Six

:49:09. > :49:11.Nations and you would think everybody would be excited and you

:49:12. > :49:17.need to continue and play like that for the rest of the tournament. Do

:49:18. > :49:23.France have a star in Vakatawa? Do you feel on didn't about his 15 man

:49:24. > :49:26.game? Every time he gets the ball he can be a danger but now he needs to

:49:27. > :49:30.fit in with the others. It is a poor performance from France today and I

:49:31. > :49:33.cannot believe we are at this level. I thought at the start of the game

:49:34. > :49:37.we could do much better but today we didn't deliver and I'm concerned

:49:38. > :49:41.about that. With all of that said and done France got a win and France

:49:42. > :49:45.looked demoralised after the World Cup and things didn't go well for

:49:46. > :49:49.them at all. They got a win but they were poor and lacklustre. Plenty of

:49:50. > :49:53.rugby coming your way this weekend and we are live from Murrayfield

:49:54. > :49:57.where Eddie Jones will take over England for the first time against

:49:58. > :50:02.Scotland. Tomorrow you can hear live commentary of Ireland's game against

:50:03. > :50:08.Wales on Radio 5 live and highlights on the programme at 7pm on BBC Two,

:50:09. > :50:15.and scrum five in Wales. My thanks to Matt, Thomas and Keith. Guy Noves

:50:16. > :50:19.has met journey is about to begin soon. We will see you soon.

:50:20. > :50:28.The start of the 2016 Six Nations. That is such a classy finish. France

:50:29. > :50:39.are in the lead. Italy power their way over, try for Italy. France 10-8

:50:40. > :50:43.Italy. Carlo Canna scores! This is an absolute belter of a kick.
