:00:14. > :00:54.We're back with a bang, and 2016 looks like being another thriller.

:00:55. > :00:56.All we need is the weather to play ball.

:00:57. > :01:15.Stubbornly mild. Cold air. After one of the warmest winters on record,

:01:16. > :01:20.timely freeze is upon. There is storm brewing. It brings with it the

:01:21. > :01:29.anticipation of battles to be had, lines to be drawn, record is to be

:01:30. > :01:33.set and broken. However, before at the competitive turbulence rocks,

:01:34. > :01:43.there is peace, they can before the storm. Even in the midst of the

:01:44. > :01:48.Tempest, there is quiet. In the eye of the storm, we are all around it

:01:49. > :01:55.is noise and distraction, and I is called unwavering focus, that is the

:01:56. > :01:59.athletes' greatest ally. One false move, the slightest misjudgement and

:02:00. > :02:04.you're caught in the storm. Overcome by a force of nature, too great

:02:05. > :02:10.divide, no option but to ride it out. Lindsey Vonn crashes. Weather

:02:11. > :02:15.the storm and you can come back triumphant, beat the odds. For some,

:02:16. > :02:25.the storm clouds will have a golden lining. Very, very special. El Nino

:02:26. > :02:32.can have a big effect on the weather patterns around the globe. As this

:02:33. > :02:37.storm closes in, we have the added intrigue of 2016 being an El Nino

:02:38. > :02:42.year, which brings with it are predictable and predictability. I

:02:43. > :02:47.suggest we lead the -- leave the forecasting to the experts and hold

:02:48. > :02:53.onto our hats, are helmets, and enjoy the best of what Winter has to

:02:54. > :03:02.throw at us. We will have to wait and see exactly how things pan out.

:03:03. > :03:04.We start the season in Adelboden for the men's slalom.

:03:05. > :03:07.The giant slalom here was cancelled yesterday due to rain.

:03:08. > :03:10.However, it's not about precipitation,

:03:11. > :03:11.it's about perspiration for the technicians

:03:12. > :03:18.Later in the show, Chemmy Alcott is in Zauchensee for the women's

:03:19. > :03:24.downhill with a difference, a sprint race held over two runs.

:03:25. > :03:26.Tim Warwood gets an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the graft,

:03:27. > :03:30.craft and creativity behind Jamie Nicholls' latest viral video.

:03:31. > :03:34.And we'll bring you the inspiring story of Jody Blatchley,

:03:35. > :03:36.a man who refuses to let disability get in the way

:03:37. > :03:51.Before that, it's our feature race from Adelboden,

:03:52. > :03:55.Racing against the established elite of the likes of Hirscher,

:03:56. > :04:00.Neureuther and Kristoffersen is our very own Dave Ryding,

:04:01. > :04:03.and as Graham's been finding out, the Lancashire lad is having

:04:04. > :04:15.A brilliant 12th place for Ryding. That is his best World Cup finish.

:04:16. > :04:19.It is 13th, the Britain is in the form of his life. What has made the

:04:20. > :04:23.difference this year, because you have made that breakthrough and your

:04:24. > :04:27.scoring top 15 World Cup results? It is a continuation of what I have

:04:28. > :04:32.been doing over the years, nothing special, just keep working. The

:04:33. > :04:37.federation has given me support, I have got my own servicemen. It is an

:04:38. > :04:40.accumulation of things, performing better, my coach having another year

:04:41. > :04:45.of getting his theories across Damien Kelly working on things and

:04:46. > :04:48.progressively getting better. Looking to perfect your technique,

:04:49. > :04:55.what do you have to do to get better? I am trying to match up my

:04:56. > :04:58.turns. My left fitted turn is getting better. It still needs work.

:04:59. > :05:03.That is what I have been working on last summer. Just so I can carry

:05:04. > :05:12.that extra fraction of the second over a few gates. You have a few

:05:13. > :05:18.busy weeks coming up. We have addled Bowden, Kitzbuehel, what are you

:05:19. > :05:23.looking forward to the most? -- Adelboden. The amount of fans that

:05:24. > :05:28.turnout, the passionate Swiss and Austrian fans. It will take some

:05:29. > :05:32.good scheme to get results. Have you gained the experience to say, I know

:05:33. > :05:37.what this piste is going to throw at me? Yes, you know what to expect,

:05:38. > :05:42.where the difficult places are, and how to approach the race. It has

:05:43. > :05:48.taken a few years for me to learn, but now I am a better skier and I

:05:49. > :05:54.have that experience. How far up the rankings can you go? It is hard to

:05:55. > :05:58.say. If I keep improving, you never know. My goal this season was to

:05:59. > :06:04.make sure that I finished the season in the top third. Last June I was

:06:05. > :06:08.31st. So far it is going well, I am 15th, but that can change in the

:06:09. > :06:15.blink of an eye. I have got to focus on myself. Conditions have been very

:06:16. > :06:20.warm. Are you going to alter your skiing of the course gets really

:06:21. > :06:24.ratted on the first run? If that happens, you have to change your

:06:25. > :06:31.line and approach. If you go to straight, you will not survive long.

:06:32. > :06:34.It is deep and long, the piste at the bottom. You never know what

:06:35. > :06:41.you're going to get, you have to be adaptable. We will take it from

:06:42. > :06:46.there when I see it in the morning. You will be starting from 25, how do

:06:47. > :06:50.you see the race running? I will hope to get into the top 30 and I

:06:51. > :06:53.hope to get the clean course in the second round. I will attack the

:06:54. > :06:55.second run. Dave seems to have kicked on again

:06:56. > :07:05.after a really strong Yes, he has really stepped up

:07:06. > :07:09.another level with his top 15 results, 12th and 13th so far this

:07:10. > :07:15.season. Olympic medals, podiums on the horizon? One step at a time

:07:16. > :07:21.because -- but if you can produce consistent results in the top 15, he

:07:22. > :07:23.will start in the top 15. Start number is a portent in slalom

:07:24. > :07:29.because it gives you a clean track and you can shoot for the podium.

:07:30. > :07:33.The atmosphere is starting to charge. Livestock about the arrays.

:07:34. > :07:40.Who will be vying for the top spot? There are three big players. We have

:07:41. > :07:45.had three big slaloms this season, and it has been Kristoffersen and

:07:46. > :07:51.they sure. Everyone else is racing for third place. Who will win? We

:07:52. > :07:57.could be in for a surprise with the softer conditions. It could be

:07:58. > :07:59.someone like Felix Neureuther. Maybe the Kristofferson- here sure

:08:00. > :08:08.stranglehold will be broken. You need to make your way to commentary.

:08:09. > :08:13.This is the Adelboden slalom, and it is time for the first runs in the

:08:14. > :08:21.rain. Wonderfully controlled slalom skiing. Ryding is ready to race for

:08:22. > :08:28.Great Britain. No, he has skied out. Yes, he has done it. A drop in

:08:29. > :08:35.temperature overnight in addled Bowden so snorer place rain this

:08:36. > :08:40.morning. After the giant slalom cancellation yesterday, the crowd

:08:41. > :08:47.were relieved to see the first Arter in the start hut. Khoroshilov laid

:08:48. > :08:53.down an impressive time that would prove him possible to beat. Last

:08:54. > :08:57.year's when, Stefano Gross, found himself with almost a second to make

:08:58. > :09:08.up if you was to decline -- defend his Adelboden title. The German duo

:09:09. > :09:15.struggled. The Swedes, normally so strong and slalom did not fare so

:09:16. > :09:23.well. One skier missed the gate, and another lost the ski. Predictably,

:09:24. > :09:28.as the piste cutup, the higher numbers struggled to cope with the

:09:29. > :09:37.lumps and bumps on the Chuenesbargli. Skiing 25th, Dave

:09:38. > :09:42.Ryding produced a solid run, minimising mistakes but struggling

:09:43. > :09:47.in the worsening conditions, leaving the Lancashire racer frustrated in

:09:48. > :09:52.the finish area, with a nervous wait to see if he would make the top 30.

:09:53. > :09:58.The closest challenger to Khoroshilov where the two

:09:59. > :10:00.favourites. The World Cup leader Henrick Kristoffersen made a big

:10:01. > :10:06.mistake that may have cost him the chance of taking the lead. They are

:10:07. > :10:10.both close to the leader, Khoroshilov, setting things up

:10:11. > :10:15.nicely for an exciting run two. Business as usual for the big bands,

:10:16. > :10:19.Khoroshilov, he showed an Kristoffersen occupying the top

:10:20. > :10:26.three spots. The second runs are run in reverse order so Khoroshilov has

:10:27. > :10:32.the luxury of going last. Dave Ryding qualifying safely. Graham has

:10:33. > :10:36.the commentary. Dave Ryding, an excellent start to the season with a

:10:37. > :10:40.12th place in Val d'Isere. The last race was in Santa Caterina. He is

:10:41. > :10:46.fifth on the second run, and building on his league, the current

:10:47. > :10:50.leader in the finish is Luca Aerni from Switzerland. Hero saved a

:10:51. > :10:58.massive cheer as he came to the finish. Let's hope the Dave Ryding

:10:59. > :11:03.can silence the Swiss crowd. Good on the flat, good at generating speed,

:11:04. > :11:11.but he just slipped a little bit of time away. There was a slight sheen

:11:12. > :11:15.at the finish. It needs to be clean and precise on these turns. Close on

:11:16. > :11:23.the gates. Getting pushed too far forward. Over the tips. .41 away

:11:24. > :11:29.from the Swiss racer. Ryding will have to let fly now. That is a good

:11:30. > :11:34.run from Dave Ryding, not quite good enough to take the lead. Fifth place

:11:35. > :11:46.for a Ryding. He lost a lot of time over the last few turns. A shake of

:11:47. > :11:49.the head for the British racer. Ramon Zomer Lucerne from

:11:50. > :11:56.Switzerland. The first after the first run. -- Zenhaeusern. A tall,

:11:57. > :12:03.rangy skier. Here's a little and gamely. His personal best in slalom

:12:04. > :12:14.is 19th. Looking to improve. He has a good chance of improving today. He

:12:15. > :12:20.is working some incredible angles. He is bending down that big frame,

:12:21. > :12:25.bending law. No into the steep. He needs to keep it under control, good

:12:26. > :12:31.coming through the and gate. He said since our top high. That is a good

:12:32. > :12:35.line on the steep. He just got knocked out and had to apply the

:12:36. > :12:40.pressure hard. It could be good enough for the lead. It is going to

:12:41. > :12:48.because. It is the lead for Switzerland. Ramon Zenhaeusern. A

:12:49. > :12:59.brilliant second run. That is going to be the best race of his career so

:13:00. > :13:06.far. Manuel Feller, from the towel in Austria. 23 years old. A good

:13:07. > :13:11.season, he was fourth in Val d'Isere in the giant slalom this year. Now

:13:12. > :13:22.is his chance in slalom. He is the currently do, the young Swiss

:13:23. > :13:28.leader, Ramon Zenhaeusern. -- the current leader is the young Swiss

:13:29. > :13:33.racer. He is building on his advantage. Able to carry speed over

:13:34. > :13:38.the flat part of the course. In Adelboden, it is so important to

:13:39. > :13:42.work the terrain. He has set it up high, and he can use that to his

:13:43. > :13:50.advantage. They can let the skis run down. He has lost some of his lead.

:13:51. > :14:00.The crowd are gasping. It will because. Is Austria going to take

:14:01. > :14:06.the lead from Switzerland? No, yes. .07 seconds. Manuel Feller silences

:14:07. > :14:12.the Swiss crowd. Last year's winner, Stefano Gross. He is from the

:14:13. > :14:17.German-speaking part of Italy. His maiden victory, his only World Cup

:14:18. > :14:25.victory, was here last season. He loves this course and he is building

:14:26. > :14:30.on his lead. Just on the absolute edge of control as he went through

:14:31. > :14:36.that gate. So important to attack the top part of the course, get the

:14:37. > :14:45.speed of these little rollers. Stefano Gross loves this hill. The

:14:46. > :14:51.current leader, Manuel Feller, at the finish. Stefano Gross comes onto

:14:52. > :14:56.the prettily steep finish pitch. These are good times. He is relaxed

:14:57. > :15:02.and Smith. He was a little late in the line. It is going to because.

:15:03. > :15:10.Has he done enough? I think he has dropped a little bit of time. He is

:15:11. > :15:15.just inside. I could not call that. I knew he had made a mistake. I did

:15:16. > :15:22.not know which side it was going to end up on, but it ended up green by

:15:23. > :15:26..02 seconds. In the start hut is Felix

:15:27. > :15:30.Neureuther, the cat likes to remain positive. This Christmas he took to

:15:31. > :15:35.social media to encourages fans to make the most of the mild weather

:15:36. > :15:39.and attend to their lawns. In the snow of Adelboden, will it be the

:15:40. > :15:47.competition that Felix cuts down to size?

:15:48. > :15:52.Bronze medallist in the World Championships and bailed last

:15:53. > :15:58.season. 11 World Cup victories to his name, including a giant slalom

:15:59. > :16:04.win here. He has lost some of his advantage on that early split.

:16:05. > :16:08.Neureuther can be so loose and relaxed on his skis, they call him

:16:09. > :16:14.Felix the cat. He does like these conditions. He has struggled with

:16:15. > :16:25.problems with his back over the last few seasons. Just not able to

:16:26. > :16:28.generate quite the same speed. A couple of seasons ago, he was

:16:29. > :16:35.fighting it out with Marcel Hirscher. He could still take the

:16:36. > :16:43.lead away. Stefano Gross was not the best down this last final section.

:16:44. > :16:52.It is possible for Neureuther. Oh, he misses out by 1900s of a second.

:16:53. > :17:08.-- by 19 hundredths macro of a second. Into fourth place.

:17:09. > :17:15.Pinturault is an accomplished skier, going for it. Smooth, relaxed

:17:16. > :17:44.skiing. Working the ski. These are good terms from

:17:45. > :17:54.Pinturault. He could take the lead away from Stefano Gross. Pinturault

:17:55. > :17:59.takes the lead for France. Last year's winner is knocked down into

:18:00. > :18:09.second place. That is the best skiing we have seen so far this

:18:10. > :18:12.season from Alexis Pinturault. Next, the silver medallist from the World

:18:13. > :18:18.Championships last year. He has had six second bases in the World Cup as

:18:19. > :18:24.well. He is in danger of being called Mr second place, the German

:18:25. > :18:32.Fritz Dopfer. Austrian mother, German father. He looks a bit heavy

:18:33. > :18:41.on his edges today. Pinturault was so smooth and relaxed on the top

:18:42. > :18:54.part of the course. Dopfer is letting his lead slip away.

:18:55. > :19:05.Just a little bit heavy to try and release the turn. It is not going to

:19:06. > :19:13.happen for the German. Alexis Pinturault's lead is safe, and

:19:14. > :19:14.Dopfer drops behind his fellow team-mate from

:19:15. > :19:20.Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Felix Neureuther to.

:19:21. > :19:23.Henrik Kristoffersen is next. Despite being only 21, he has

:19:24. > :19:28.already won six World Cup races. Last season's success made him a

:19:29. > :19:31.household name in his native Norway, though quite why he was asked to

:19:32. > :19:34.make a photo shoot at the Norwegian opera house is a mystery. Perhaps he

:19:35. > :19:58.will ski to -- tutu victory today. Kristoffersen is flying on the top

:19:59. > :20:06.part of this course. He has built on his lead. He and Hirscher are in a

:20:07. > :20:16.league of their own season. Wow, he has dropped some time on the current

:20:17. > :20:26.leader, Pinturault. He is going to have to be smooth. These are good

:20:27. > :20:32.terms. He is going to throw the gauntlet down to the two racers left

:20:33. > :20:46.at the top. Textbook skiing. Superb angles created from the ankles and

:20:47. > :20:51.knees. Kristoffersen takes the lead. Will that be his third win of the

:20:52. > :20:56.season? Kristoffersen is able to create such big angles.

:20:57. > :21:01.season? Kristoffersen is able to can bend that ski over, the more the

:21:02. > :21:06.natural side cut will allow the ski to carve and cut a tight line. The

:21:07. > :21:14.tighter line you can ski, the faster you will go.

:21:15. > :21:18.Next to race is the Austrian hero, Marcel Hirscher. He can consider

:21:19. > :21:23.himself lucky to be racing after this near miss in Italy. There will

:21:24. > :21:28.be no drones flying today, so the Austrian can concentrate on flying

:21:29. > :21:33.to the top of the podium. Here he is, Marcel Hirscher. The

:21:34. > :21:41.four times overall World Cup champion. He is fired up and he is

:21:42. > :21:44.going after it. It is a ding-dong battle with Henrik Kristoffersen so

:21:45. > :21:49.far this season. Hirscher can be too aggressive sometimes. He can be too

:21:50. > :21:56.hard on his edges. Maybe that is the case today. Doesn't like it when the

:21:57. > :22:02.course is not bullet-proof icy, but he has picked up speed.

:22:03. > :22:11.Kristoffersen was good on the speed. -- on the steep. A bit heavy on his

:22:12. > :22:24.edges. But these are good terms. This could be enough. Hirscher is

:22:25. > :22:32.going to do it again. He takes the lead, no, he doesn't! He misses it

:22:33. > :22:36.by six hundredths! Oh, my word! How close can you go? Marcel Hirscher

:22:37. > :22:42.thought he had it in the bag. I thought he had it in the bag. Six

:22:43. > :22:47.hundredths of a second. Oh, my word. Look at the grimace. Kristoffersen

:22:48. > :22:53.flew down those last ten terms and Hirscher, wow, the lead just slipped

:22:54. > :23:00.away. There is nothing to separate these two this season. Leader after

:23:01. > :23:09.the first run, wearing bib number one, Alexander Khoroshilov from

:23:10. > :23:13.Russia. To the maiden win last year the pressure is on him now. He skied

:23:14. > :23:23.really well in the last World Cup slalom to take third place just

:23:24. > :23:29.behind Hirscher and Kristoffersen. And it is Kristoffersen and Hirscher

:23:30. > :23:32.again in the lead. This could be the chance for Khoroshilov. He breaks

:23:33. > :23:39.the domination between Hirscher and Kristoffersen. Clean terms. This is

:23:40. > :23:44.good from the Russian. Are we finally going to see another winner

:23:45. > :23:49.on the World Cup tour? Oh, he has let it slip slightly. Kristoffersen

:23:50. > :23:52.was lightning fast on that last split to the finish. That was what

:23:53. > :23:59.court is all out with Marcel Hirscher. Can Khoroshilov Derek? No,

:24:00. > :24:05.he has dropped a third. So, third place again for Alexander

:24:06. > :24:09.Khoroshilov. These two just cannot be separated. There has only ever

:24:10. > :24:14.been won first and second place so far, and it has been taken by these

:24:15. > :24:17.two guys. So, Henrik Kristoffersen notches up

:24:18. > :24:40.his third win this season. Winning here in Adelboden is

:24:41. > :24:47.unbelievable. The crowd here is so amazing. Wow. It gives a lot of

:24:48. > :24:51.confidence, but you still have to stay grounded and be smart and work

:24:52. > :24:56.hard. Six hundredths, that is not a lot. Well, the men have been in

:24:57. > :25:01.action here in Adelboden. The women World Cup has been held in

:25:02. > :25:05.Zauchensee in Austria. It was moved there from St Anton after

:25:06. > :25:06.unseasonably warm weather. Chemmy Alcott has all the best action from

:25:07. > :25:23.the women's downhill. It is a downhill with a difference,

:25:24. > :25:27.and the top 30 going reverse order the second time down. With its

:25:28. > :25:30.undulating terrain and long, sweeping terms, the course here in

:25:31. > :25:34.Zauchensee is perfectly suited to this style of racing. And it has

:25:35. > :25:41.created quite a buzz amongst a very strong line-up. Two familiar faces

:25:42. > :25:46.are missing from the events this season. Double Olympic champion Tina

:25:47. > :25:54.Marseille has opted to take a year out. And Austria's winner's season

:25:55. > :25:58.was over when she suffered a serious knee injury. Four time World Cup

:25:59. > :26:07.champion Lindsey Vonn is in town, and has fond memories of racing here

:26:08. > :26:13.from 2011. Eclipsing even her at the moment is Switzerland's skier. But

:26:14. > :26:17.she did also win the most recent downhill in Val d'Isere. Given their

:26:18. > :26:22.technical expertise at high speed, Lara and Lindsay will still be the

:26:23. > :26:25.ones to beat, even over the shorter distance. Sweden's skier set the

:26:26. > :26:34.early pace in Ramone, showing what could be achieved. With her

:26:35. > :26:38.confidence flowing, it was left to Lindsey Vonn to set the pace with a

:26:39. > :26:47.typically aggressive aerodynamic run with almost perfect line. Vonn is

:26:48. > :26:50.over a second in front, a huge lead for the American. The big shock of

:26:51. > :26:57.the first run was the genetic failing to finish of Lara Gooch, who

:26:58. > :27:05.got sucked onto her skis midway through the course. A huge support

:27:06. > :27:09.for the Swiss racer. In run two, it looks as though the battle for

:27:10. > :27:14.second and third will be between Canada, Liechtenstein and the local

:27:15. > :27:24.girl, with just seven hundredths spitting them after the first run.

:27:25. > :27:31.Your comment it is Matt Chilton. Sweden's best downhiller, Kaisa

:27:32. > :27:36.Kling. She she has only got three hundredths of a second over the new

:27:37. > :27:40.leader. This has to be good. A mixed bag of results so far this season,

:27:41. > :27:57.but when she is good, she is really good. That was a beautiful jump. Her

:27:58. > :28:08.chance may have gone. Kling has gone first by six hundredths of a second.

:28:09. > :28:16.Excellent finish from the Swede. Now the Austrian, fourth after the first

:28:17. > :28:26.run. This is full attack from Huetter. She nearly paid the price.

:28:27. > :28:31.But the lead is still hurts. She has been on the edge of her abilities.

:28:32. > :28:36.She will certainly lead for Austria. Will it be enough to win the race?

:28:37. > :28:50.She has got it by .39. A brave run from Huetter.

:28:51. > :28:59.Tina Fey Arata's heart will have skipped a beat. A lucky escape for

:29:00. > :29:08.Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein. The Canadian is the ultimate racer to

:29:09. > :29:17.tackle the second run. One hand down on the snow. What a recovery by the

:29:18. > :29:23.Canadian. That was lucky for Yurkiw. She has got the lead by a huge

:29:24. > :29:43.margin! What a race from Larisa Yurkiw of Canada.

:29:44. > :29:57.Lindsey Vonn's advantage over Larisa Yurkiw was nine tenths. It is now a

:29:58. > :30:03.full second. Nice turn. That was the perfect way in for Lindsey Vonn. She

:30:04. > :30:09.will be miles ahead of Yurkiw at the next split. The American, looking to

:30:10. > :30:21.take the need away from the Canadian. It is another astonishing

:30:22. > :30:28.performance from Lindsey Vonn. She wins in Zauchensee by a full second.

:30:29. > :30:41.And she has equalled the record. via Rother another podium today for

:30:42. > :30:47.Cornelia Huetter in third. Second to Larisa Yurkiw. What once again, it

:30:48. > :30:53.is Lindsey Vonn who tops the leaderboard in Zauchensee.

:30:54. > :30:59.Confirmation of Lindsey Vonn's 72nd World Cup win. She wins again --

:31:00. > :31:04.against Larisa Yurkiw with Cornelia Huetter in third. I knew I had a big

:31:05. > :31:09.enough advantage, I did not need to push. It is hard to be in the lead

:31:10. > :31:13.after the first round, it is like grand slalom. It is definitely

:31:14. > :31:16.harder than having one run. I am happy I was able to stay relaxed and

:31:17. > :31:18.make it down without any real mistakes.

:31:19. > :31:21.If you want to see more of the race from Zauchensee,

:31:22. > :31:23.this week's Ski Sunday Extra is on iPlayer.

:31:24. > :31:25.Elsewhere in winter sport, we've seen notable results

:31:26. > :31:27.for a number of British athletes already this season.

:31:28. > :31:29.18-year-old Katie Ormerod won the Pleasure Jam snowboard

:31:30. > :31:32.slopestyle in November, and backed that up with an impressive fifth

:31:33. > :31:42.James Woods also came fifth in the ski slopestyle.

:31:43. > :31:46.Alex Tilley marked her debut World Cup season with an excellent 19th

:31:47. > :31:48.place at the end of 2015. And in cross country,

:31:49. > :31:51.Andrew Young became the first ever Brit to podium in a World Cup sprint

:31:52. > :31:53.race just before Christmas. Some encouraging results. Keep an

:31:54. > :32:17.eye on Katie Ormerod. perspective is starting to turn

:32:18. > :32:20.towards the Olympics Ahead of the last winter games,

:32:21. > :32:24.in Sochi, Jody Blatchley had successfully made the move

:32:25. > :32:26.from snowboarding to coaching, and was looking after

:32:27. > :32:28.the New Zealand slopestyle team. Unfortunately for Jody,

:32:29. > :32:30.he never made it to Russia, but the Brit is doing everything

:32:31. > :32:37.he can to turn a huge negative My life is basically from the age of

:32:38. > :32:44.17, I have been on mountains as much as I can. The accident did not scare

:32:45. > :32:50.me. What scares me is not being able to do things that I want to do.

:32:51. > :32:55.Incredible as a word that is overused, certainly by me, but I

:32:56. > :33:10.think in this case it is justified. That is incredible. I think the

:33:11. > :33:15.first time I met you you had an amazing frontside rodeo. You got

:33:16. > :33:19.into snowboarding coaching. You were running the snowboarding team --

:33:20. > :33:24.slopestyle team in the build-up to the Sochi Olympics. And in summer

:33:25. > :33:31.2013, you had an accident. What happened? We had been coaching all

:33:32. > :33:35.day long. I went off to do a frontside three, I have done

:33:36. > :33:39.thousands of them, and as I took off, I caught an edge at the top and

:33:40. > :33:45.I landed next to the jump. Instead of landing on the landing, you came

:33:46. > :33:52.in. The problem was it was a big jump. How far was the file? It was a

:33:53. > :33:58.solid 40 feet to flat. What happened? I broke my knee and my

:33:59. > :34:02.ankle. I spent a long time in hospital. I think it was nine months

:34:03. > :34:09.old together. I have been left with a lot of nerve damage. It is nerve

:34:10. > :34:12.pain that I have got. Basically that is what stops me for being able to

:34:13. > :34:20.stand for long periods of time, or to snowboard now. I think of myself

:34:21. > :34:27.as basically a ski boot. The movements that I make, leaning

:34:28. > :34:35.forward, ITV side, to the other side, we BBC is what your food we be

:34:36. > :34:45.doing when you Steve. -- when you ski. Look at the speed he is doing,

:34:46. > :34:49.this is ridiculous. I am struggling to keep up so far. That was

:34:50. > :34:54.cruising. Straight after the accident, you want to snowboard, but

:34:55. > :34:58.even on a professional level, you're heavily invested in getting the

:34:59. > :35:05.slopestyle team to the Olympics? The hardest part for me was giving up

:35:06. > :35:10.work. I was 100% into it. I have to take so much of that energy now to

:35:11. > :35:20.just deal with pain. The reality it was not going to be. The things he

:35:21. > :35:27.is doing, I never thought I would see. And believable. To be honest,

:35:28. > :35:32.it hurts when I am doing it. I am in pain all the time. Really? The

:35:33. > :35:38.landing is shot through my legs like crazy, but I am doing it, I am out

:35:39. > :35:45.here. It blew my mind, but there are so many people on the slopes to day

:35:46. > :35:51.-- today, who are watching. You must note the effect it has on people.

:35:52. > :35:57.Yes, I know. Some people say, can you hire them in town. You cannot.

:35:58. > :36:02.You're doing things on that that I do not think I have seen people do

:36:03. > :36:07.on skis or snowboard. The soft stuff, it cuts through them. I see

:36:08. > :36:13.other people bouncing around, but it is not a problem for me. It is like

:36:14. > :36:18.a small vehicle? I would say so. Long-term, what is your plan? I

:36:19. > :36:24.would like to work more with people getting people into six skiing.

:36:25. > :36:25.There is nothing wrong with an able-bodied person doing this.

:36:26. > :36:31.Nothing tall. -- nothing at all. It just goes to show what's possible

:36:32. > :36:35.when you combine grit, determination and a healthy

:36:36. > :36:38.dose of natural talent. The desire to keep improving

:36:39. > :36:40.and challenging yourself is vital in snow sport, whether you're

:36:41. > :36:42.riding big mountains, piste, park, or as Tim Warwood

:36:43. > :36:54.has been finding out, If we are as, finds a freestyle

:36:55. > :36:58.snowboarding can be a little bit fickle. We find ourselves watching

:36:59. > :37:04.the latest and greatest videos online, and then we find ourselves

:37:05. > :37:08.thinking, what makes? You may have thought the Jamie Nicholls' runs

:37:09. > :37:13.year was a one-off. The Snow centre at Hemel is a great facility but it

:37:14. > :37:18.had its limitations, the playground is not that big. How do you raise

:37:19. > :37:24.the bar? Only one man can answer that. That is my name. The run last

:37:25. > :37:28.year, we did it for my documentary and Ngwira least it as a separate

:37:29. > :37:33.clip, not knowing it would be so successful. On Facebook, and it blew

:37:34. > :37:38.up. This year we were given the opportunity again to try something

:37:39. > :37:42.bigger and better. There will be a lot more to get right, lots of runs

:37:43. > :37:47.and lots of takes. We have a six-hour time slot to make this

:37:48. > :37:53.happen. I go nervous? A little bit, because there are lots of people

:37:54. > :38:00.here depending on need to make it happen. Listen, you best go and get

:38:01. > :38:06.some sleep. Five hours to go and you will be on the slope, riding. Yes,

:38:07. > :38:10.back here, making it happen. Jimmy left the team of 15 working through

:38:11. > :38:15.the night, shaping the snow to build the seven features in his run. The

:38:16. > :38:21.pressure was on. You would only have a six-hour window to get everything

:38:22. > :38:26.in the canon before the slope reopen to the paying punters. -- to get

:38:27. > :38:31.everything in the can. How are you feeling? You went to bed without any

:38:32. > :38:36.of this being your? Yes, everything is done. I could not sleep. I was

:38:37. > :38:40.thinking about it all night. Do you feel pressure, the fact you need to

:38:41. > :38:46.get it done early, because this has got to open for lessons? Yes, 12

:38:47. > :38:52.o'clock, it has got to open. I do not feel the pressure that much.

:38:53. > :38:57.Hopefully it works out all right. I will hate it, and land, and you want

:38:58. > :39:03.me to carry on? Yes, this will link up to the ones we did earlier.

:39:04. > :39:06.Dropping. Jimmy has had a couple of practice runs. He has got this top

:39:07. > :39:11.section locked. There are struggling with the speed from the landing of

:39:12. > :39:16.the jump into the quarter paper. Time is ticking. It is close to 9am,

:39:17. > :39:22.and you still have quite a bit to do. We will get it done. We are

:39:23. > :39:25.nervous we are rowing out of time. As long as everyone knows what they

:39:26. > :39:40.are doing, it should come together quite nicely. Dropping. It is coming

:39:41. > :39:44.together knife. -- no. There we go. Very nice indeed. That is the run

:39:45. > :39:55.complete, but this is television. Jimmy will have to do it again and

:39:56. > :40:01.again. -- Jamie. It is all done and dusted, how did it go? I bet you

:40:02. > :40:07.were shattered? Knackered, my ankle is hurting. My brain is hurting. You

:40:08. > :40:13.have done about 4000 runs. So many runs. I am pretty happy. The quarter

:40:14. > :40:54.pipe did not work out in the end, but still seven features. Dropping.

:40:55. > :41:00.Mellow. Good to see that he keeps his skills so well polished in the

:41:01. > :41:02.off-season. Jamie's exploits in Hemel lead us

:41:03. > :41:12.nicely into Ski Social. The submissions this week prove you

:41:13. > :41:21.have been warming up for winter very well in the UK. This man has been

:41:22. > :41:24.making good use of the snow zone in Milton Keynes. And Corrie couple

:41:25. > :41:29.improves you do not have to limit yourself to the indoors. He has been

:41:30. > :41:35.making use of the plastic fantastic in Rossendale. Everyone loves a

:41:36. > :41:39.backflip. You have also been sending in your questions. Ryan says, is it

:41:40. > :41:44.best to learn on the fix no indoors or on the dry slopes? The fake snow

:41:45. > :41:48.will always be more realistic, but it is whatever is available to you.

:41:49. > :41:54.The more time spent going downhill, the quicker you will improve. Most

:41:55. > :42:01.of this GB team started on dry slopes, as did Dave Ryding. Andy as,

:42:02. > :42:04.giving the unstable snowpack in the high avalanche risk, have you got

:42:05. > :42:12.any wise words to keep us safe off-pieced-mac. -- piste. You will

:42:13. > :42:17.get a gate. You will be safe around you will learn. Get the right

:42:18. > :42:22.equipment and trained. Rebecca as, she is nine months into the rehab of

:42:23. > :42:28.a broken leg, what exercises should she be doing. It is all about the

:42:29. > :42:31.quads, so lunges. Lunges are great for the goods, and squats so good

:42:32. > :42:39.for the quads. Do something that involves balance and coordination.

:42:40. > :42:48.Do one like it squat on a ball or wobble board. No one does that any

:42:49. > :42:52.more. I do, I am pretty good at it. We are going to set your challenge,

:42:53. > :42:58.we want to see the longest snowplough, snow snake conger. I

:42:59. > :43:06.went to see across rugged method. Go and look it up. I will kneel down to

:43:07. > :43:11.anyone who can pull one of. Keep sending your photos, questions and

:43:12. > :43:17.videos. The best will feature on next week's show. The good news is

:43:18. > :43:21.the rain has turned to snow and there is lots more in the forecast.

:43:22. > :43:27.That is all we have time for this week. Next week, we have a healthy

:43:28. > :43:31.dose of tradition with the men's downhill from Wengen.

:43:32. > :43:37.Whether it's racing down the Lauberhorn or riding the glacier

:43:38. > :43:40.in Stubai, legs of steel are an absolute must.

:43:41. > :43:57.Can they conquer a classic? My word. He is making this look very easy.

:43:58. > :44:14.His legs are beginning to tire. He is miles ahead. He has got it. Yes.

:44:15. > :44:18.You'd better come in with a brilliant product.
