:01:09. > :01:19.It's the biggest race on the circuit. Fear becomes anticipation.

:01:20. > :01:26.Nerves become excitement. It's you against the mountain. You need to

:01:27. > :01:33.focus, to visualise. Every turn, every jump, every gate. In the

:01:34. > :01:37.starting hut there is time for last-minute adjustments. The clock

:01:38. > :01:47.counts down. And it's all you. You follow those in history who have

:01:48. > :02:05.gone before you. Fantastic, brilliant stuff. And hope

:02:06. > :02:10.to write a new chapter of your own. Sensational!

:02:11. > :02:16.Can Lindsey Vonn winner? Yes she can. She leads the way.

:02:17. > :02:18.Hello, and welcome to Cortina D'Ampezzo.

:02:19. > :02:21.We're in Italy this week for the biggest downhill

:02:22. > :02:26.It's one of Lindsey Vonn's favourite hills.

:02:27. > :02:30.With 11 World Cup victories. Five of them on this fast and flowing

:02:31. > :02:31.downhill course. After victory in Garmisch

:02:32. > :02:33.last weekend, Lindsey's an overwhelming favourite today,

:02:34. > :02:35.but just getting to the start hut is no mean feat given how

:02:36. > :02:45.tough her latest comeback I pretty much became ambidextrous

:02:46. > :02:51.because I had to put on my make-up with my left hand, I couldn't even

:02:52. > :02:55.sign my name. I was... Crazy. It's still not great you still can't

:02:56. > :02:56.straighten it can but you can hold a ski pole. Oh yeah, she's still got

:02:57. > :02:59.it. Later in the show, we also have

:03:00. > :03:01.highlights of the epic night race from Schladming,

:03:02. > :03:03.featuring the best slalom A group which includes

:03:04. > :03:12.a history-making Brit It's crazy around here, I can't even

:03:13. > :03:16.walk down the street without being hounded by people, which is cool,

:03:17. > :03:21.you've got to embrace it. I didn't think it would happen, it caught me

:03:22. > :03:23.by surprise. No matter how many times I watched it still incredible.

:03:24. > :03:25.Anyway, this week's programme really is a feast for fans of alpine,

:03:26. > :03:27.and first, it's the women's downhill from Cortina.

:03:28. > :03:30.Ahead of the race, Chemmy went to talk to Lindsey Vonn.

:03:31. > :03:33.of the all-time greats, and continues to prove it's tough

:03:34. > :03:43.She's refused to vacate the top of the podium. You said it was your

:03:44. > :03:47.hardest injury to come back from but I thought it was interesting you

:03:48. > :03:51.kept back until you had come back to the sport about this numbness which

:03:52. > :03:55.must have been the most scary part. Yeah, I got out of surgery and

:03:56. > :04:00.couldn't move my hand at all. It scared me to the point where I

:04:01. > :04:03.didn't want to tell anyone. I pretty much became ambidextrous because I

:04:04. > :04:09.had to put on my make-up with my left hand, couldn't even sign my

:04:10. > :04:13.name. It was crazy. You still can't straighten it? But you can hold a

:04:14. > :04:21.ski pole. Oh yeah, she's still got it. Can Vonn win? Oh yes she can.

:04:22. > :04:27.That one in Garmisch, even you said it was an emotional win. I didn't

:04:28. > :04:34.expect that to happen. The last injury was really scary and took a

:04:35. > :04:39.lot out of me emotionally. You know, to come back and get a win so

:04:40. > :04:44.quickly was more than I expected. I kind of had a little meltdown.

:04:45. > :04:49.Winning may have become habit, but it's still special. Garmisch was her

:04:50. > :04:55.77th World Cup victory and she's getting closer and closer to the

:04:56. > :05:03.all-time record of 86 World Cup wins, held by stem mark. I met him

:05:04. > :05:08.last year at the Stockholm city event, he was so nice. -- Stenmark.

:05:09. > :05:12.He said if I ever get close to breaking his record, he'll come and

:05:13. > :05:17.watch me. I was like, that would be awesome. That's a true legend, it

:05:18. > :05:21.sounds like he wants you to break his record. He wants me to, he's not

:05:22. > :05:30.fake about it, he was very genuine and very sweet. It was really nice.

:05:31. > :05:37.It was an honour to meet him. If Lindsey stays fit she will beat

:05:38. > :05:41.Stenmark's record. She wants to test yourself against the men. It's

:05:42. > :05:46.something she's tried to do before. In 2012 her bid was rejected by ski

:05:47. > :05:51.racing's governing body. She will lobby them again for a race in 2018.

:05:52. > :05:56.The question is, why? I train with the guys all the time and I'm always

:05:57. > :06:00.better when I'm with them, it pushes me to ski faster, push the line,

:06:01. > :06:05.that's what I want in a race. I want to push myself to the limit. You say

:06:06. > :06:11.you train with the men, who has given the best advice from the men's

:06:12. > :06:17.World Cup? Andrew Weibrecht, we were training in Portugal. I couldn't get

:06:18. > :06:21.this turn right, a double coming onto the flat, kept getting bounced

:06:22. > :06:27.around, I was like how you running this? He explained it to me. I did

:06:28. > :06:33.exactly what he said and I beat all the guys except for him. Amazing.

:06:34. > :06:40.The only beat me by like a tent. He's like, not giving you more tips.

:06:41. > :06:44.Yeah, you'll be fine! That's what I want in a race, wants to see where I

:06:45. > :06:49.stand against the best skiers in the world. It's a fact, men are a lot

:06:50. > :06:55.faster than women. So I want to see where I stand. It's clear watching

:06:56. > :07:00.that have driven and determined she is. She's come back from serious

:07:01. > :07:04.injury, three or four times. Is there anything Lindsey Vonn does

:07:05. > :07:10.that surprises you? Not really, she talked about targeting the 86 wins

:07:11. > :07:14.Stenmark record. At 77 having released a huge chunk of racing

:07:15. > :07:19.through injury, 322 days was out of the sport for the last injury alone.

:07:20. > :07:26.She'd be around a hundred wins if she'd been competing that time.

:07:27. > :07:31.Stenmark won on slalom and giant slalom and Lindsey has won in all

:07:32. > :07:34.five disciplines. She is racking up wins in the toughest disciplines.

:07:35. > :07:38.She's putting her body on the line every time she pushes out of the

:07:39. > :07:48.start gate. The all-time greats, Tina Maze and the like are still out

:07:49. > :07:54.there. They are greats from women's skiing, is there anyone in this era

:07:55. > :07:58.who is a true rival to Lindsey? Beginning of the season, the three

:07:59. > :08:04.back-to-back wins that Ilka Stuhec achieved were phenomenal, she's now

:08:05. > :08:07.finally. She's starting to threaten Lindsey Vonn's crown. She's an

:08:08. > :08:17.amazing character who has been around for ever. She won three world

:08:18. > :08:21.junior titles. Her mum is still prepping her skis today. The ski

:08:22. > :08:28.company that she skis on, they employ her to teach the technicians

:08:29. > :08:31.to do skis fast. There are other women in the competition and Lindsay

:08:32. > :08:39.had a crash. Her confidence might be dented. Though historically Lara Gut

:08:40. > :08:47.has never done well on this course, this could be her season. And the

:08:48. > :08:54.local favourite, an aggressive and dynamic skier, very entertaining.

:08:55. > :08:55.Lindsey Vonn is the odds-on favourite, but don't count out an

:08:56. > :08:59.upset. After all, this is downhill skiing,

:09:00. > :09:02.decided by fine margins. Racing

:09:03. > :09:29.on the edge of control. This Olympic course is one of the

:09:30. > :09:34.most beautiful vistas from the start. It was cut for the 1956

:09:35. > :09:43.Olympics. Let's go and have a look at it. Out onto the start. Really

:09:44. > :09:48.important. As you go past the refuge, onto this bumpy Traverse,

:09:49. > :09:53.you come through here, a blind gate you've got to nip inside. These top

:09:54. > :10:06.turns are so crucial. To carry the speed. There is a little jump in.

:10:07. > :10:15.Accelerate from 50 to 80 mph in a matter of seconds. The speed going

:10:16. > :10:22.into this turn is much greater than before. You've got to come high on

:10:23. > :10:33.the gate, work the outside ski as you come through these terms.

:10:34. > :10:40.Heading towards the panorama turn, so important to carry the speed

:10:41. > :10:44.through this section. Because the course starts to flatten out from

:10:45. > :10:52.this point. Heading towards the last jump. It's a cheese wedge drop-off

:10:53. > :11:00.right in front of the crowd. Quite a nasty little slap of philandering.

:11:01. > :11:03.And across the line. An absolutely beautiful course to ski but make no

:11:04. > :11:07.bones about it, you have to be completely on your game if you want

:11:08. > :11:14.to win on this course, no letting up from start to finish. Matt Chilton

:11:15. > :11:18.with the commentary. Not a great deal of snow in the dolomite, but

:11:19. > :11:24.this has been prepared to perfection ready for the sixth women's World

:11:25. > :11:32.Cup downhill of the season. Victoria Regensburg on her way for Germany.

:11:33. > :11:37.Clear German number one since the retirement of her rival a couple of

:11:38. > :11:43.seasons ago. Plunges down with pillars of dolomite rock on either

:11:44. > :11:49.side. A truly spectacular backdrop. The Italian is leading at this

:11:50. > :11:53.stage. Regensburg has the quickest time through the speed trap at the

:11:54. > :12:00.top of the course. Nice aerial turn. She made the turn moving her knees

:12:01. > :12:12.to her chest mid-flight. Wonderful skills on display from the German.

:12:13. > :12:15.Showing improving form in downhill. As the forthcoming World

:12:16. > :12:22.Championships approach in San Moritz. Regensburg running out

:12:23. > :12:27.beautifully, good gliding skills from the German. As to adjust the

:12:28. > :12:32.visibility as the course constantly changes from shade to sunshine.

:12:33. > :12:37.103.3 kilometres per hour. Regensburg moves into the green, she

:12:38. > :12:47.leads the Italian white quarter of a second. Now Regensburg flies the

:12:48. > :12:57.final jump, tucks in for the line and she leads for Germany. From that

:12:58. > :13:09.point on, she accelerated through every single split. That will take a

:13:10. > :13:15.beating. Ready to race is Ilka Stuhec. She secured three downhill

:13:16. > :13:20.victories this season. She's yet to podium in 2017. Can she return to

:13:21. > :13:25.form today? The World Cup downhill standings leader. She wears the red

:13:26. > :13:32.bid to signify that. A big, strong start from Ilka Stuhec from

:13:33. > :13:36.Slovenia. From Maribor, where the women race World Cup every season

:13:37. > :13:43.and have done most seasons since the World Cup again 50 years ago.

:13:44. > :13:50.Celebrating its 50th anniversary. In 2017. Ilka Stuhec stands on that

:13:51. > :13:54.left the dives down one of the fastest parts of the course. Indeed,

:13:55. > :14:02.of any World Cup course the women race. Look at the speed. 123.5. She

:14:03. > :14:10.has the green light by six tenths almost over Rebensburg. Spectacular

:14:11. > :14:13.turn, but she skidded slightly lower, but worryingly close to the

:14:14. > :14:19.safety netting. I wonder if it might have done a little bit of damage to

:14:20. > :14:24.her time on the second half of this course. Another speed check here.

:14:25. > :14:30..58, still in the Green zone. Still in the hunt for the lead. She won

:14:31. > :14:34.both downhills in Lake Louise in the early part of the season, the

:14:35. > :14:40.beginning of December. She backed it up with two wins in Valder said, one

:14:41. > :14:45.in downhill, one in Alpine combined. She's the star of the skiing season

:14:46. > :14:49.as far as the women's World Cup is concerned, and she's dead level with

:14:50. > :14:53.Rebensburg at the second speed trap. At the third split.

:14:54. > :15:05.Now, Stuhec. Open stance, flying the final jump and tucks in for the

:15:06. > :15:11.line, and she goes. First, by just 0.0 six. That was tied. Ilka Stuhec

:15:12. > :15:15.spot on the top part of the course. Absolutely flying into the Daytona

:15:16. > :15:20.turn but took the air going in and then got pushed a bit wide, but made

:15:21. > :15:26.it up, crucially, on the final move to the right. Those skis running

:15:27. > :15:32.superbly for her. Nicole Schmidhofer, from Austria, next ago.

:15:33. > :15:36.Looking for her first World Cup win -- next to go. She's been close on a

:15:37. > :15:44.few occasions this season. Seventh in Austria on the home snow, and

:15:45. > :15:51.went one better last week and. -- last weekend. Through the speed trap

:15:52. > :15:56.just at the bottom, and Schmidhofer trails by almost half a second. That

:15:57. > :16:02.is a good turn, higher line and we saw from Stuhec. -- than we saw. A

:16:03. > :16:12.more direct object tree from the Austrian. Rebensburg is second. --

:16:13. > :16:17.trajectory. She reaches the second half of the course and closes in on

:16:18. > :16:23.the lead. She now trails by just 0.12 seconds. A big weekend for the

:16:24. > :16:29.Austrians as they chase qualification for the world

:16:30. > :16:33.champions in St Moritz were only four nations, plus the defending

:16:34. > :16:41.champion, can take part. Schmidhofer is skiing a beautiful ride. The lead

:16:42. > :16:46.may well change in Cortina. Nicole Schmidhofer staying low over the

:16:47. > :16:51.skis. She sets up for the final jump and flies it. Barely moves from the

:16:52. > :16:57.tuck and now the finishing line, and Schmidhofer has missed it and has

:16:58. > :17:02.gone third. In the start-up is Sofia Goggia. The Italian is enjoying her

:17:03. > :17:05.best season in the World Cup, securing two podiums in downhill.

:17:06. > :17:11.She likes to celebrate with her best friend. Will she have a rough time

:17:12. > :17:18.on the Olympia course, or will her tale be up in Cortina today? Sofia

:17:19. > :17:22.Goggia. So many hopes pinned on her this weekend in Cortina. She has

:17:23. > :17:26.been the star of the show as far as the Italian team is concerned this

:17:27. > :17:31.season. Yet to win a World Cup, but it can't be too far away. She

:17:32. > :17:39.attacks the flats at the top of the Olympia course. Sofia Goggia looks

:17:40. > :17:48.to be in good shape again. Fifth last weekend and she has had podium

:17:49. > :17:56.places in super G and three top three positions in giant slalom.

:17:57. > :18:00.What a season for Gobbi. -- dodgier. -- Sofia Goggia. She has real

:18:01. > :18:03.charisma and flair and a natural ability. Has no fear of the

:18:04. > :18:09.high-speed courses and could really make a difference for the Italians

:18:10. > :18:18.with an eye on the World Championships next month in St

:18:19. > :18:25.Moritz. Goggia has moved in front by 0.2. The Italians sensing something

:18:26. > :18:28.special at the bottom of the mountain as Goggia cards away to the

:18:29. > :18:38.final third of this Olympia World Cup course. Goggia has gone further

:18:39. > :18:45.in front. A big green light for the Italian. 0.50 one. Goggia is skiing

:18:46. > :18:48.beautifully on home snow in Cortina. She has not moved from the tuck

:18:49. > :18:58.position. The final jump is approaching. She squatted it

:18:59. > :19:04.perfectly. Goggia will lead by 0.42. Great run by the Italian. What a

:19:05. > :19:09.crowd pleasing run by Sophia dodgier, skiing like we expected. It

:19:10. > :19:13.was messy, on the edge and came into the end with half a second of lead

:19:14. > :19:27.and then kept the speed going until the end -- Sofia Goggia. Living on

:19:28. > :19:31.the edge, and it paid off. Number 12, Siebenhofer, and a poor start,

:19:32. > :19:39.got stuck and needs to move through the gears to make up the time from

:19:40. > :19:44.the start. Siebenhofer, travelling nicely after that poor start to her

:19:45. > :19:53.downhill run. She is not far away from the time of Goggia. 0.6 away at

:19:54. > :19:59.the split. She is off track and in trouble. She clatters the safety

:20:00. > :20:03.netting. Siebenhofer going down in the turn that caused all the problem

:20:04. > :20:08.in training. Lindsay Ron crashed and so did three others. She went into

:20:09. > :20:11.the Daytona with no direction and landed heading straight towards the

:20:12. > :20:15.fence. There was no coming back from that.

:20:16. > :20:25.Next to go is Lara Gut. She almost regards Cortina as a home race

:20:26. > :20:29.because she cart -- comes from the Italian speaking part of Switzerland

:20:30. > :20:34.but she has been skiing start over the world, and she has been in a

:20:35. > :20:38.movie and a documentary on her is due for release soon. Will she be

:20:39. > :20:44.ready for action on the Olympia course today. Lara Gut is ready to

:20:45. > :20:50.race in Cortina. An explosive start, as ever, from Gut. Seven or eight

:20:51. > :20:54.stabs with the ski poles and then into that Familia, low, attacking

:20:55. > :20:57.aerodynamic downhill position. Eating up the ground on the flats at

:20:58. > :21:09.the top and she will take the most direct line possible down the

:21:10. > :21:13.Olympia, and she goes. Full speed ahead for Lara Gut. Emerging into

:21:14. > :21:25.the sunshine at the bottom, and then on the clock, she trails by 100th of

:21:26. > :21:30.a second. A nice turn from Lara Gut, that is where Siebenhofer came

:21:31. > :21:35.unstuck. Sophia dodgier leads for Italy but Lara Gut is on the charge

:21:36. > :21:38.and the Italian celebrations might be short lived -- Goggia. Lara Gut

:21:39. > :21:45.has not won a World Cup downhill but she has been unstoppable in super G.

:21:46. > :21:49.Three races, three victories plus a win in giant slalom at the end of

:21:50. > :21:54.October. She is second in the downhill standings behind Ilka

:21:55. > :21:59.Stuhec. She would love to get one over on the Italians and the

:22:00. > :22:02.Slovenians today and win here with the last downhill of the season

:22:03. > :22:10.before the World Championships, which will be a home race for Gut in

:22:11. > :22:15.St Moritz. So far, so good. 15 hundredths of a second away. Gut

:22:16. > :22:21.looks to be in solid shape, off the final jump. Has she clawed back the

:22:22. > :22:27.time? Yes. She takes it by five hundredths of a second. The top two

:22:28. > :22:31.separated by just five hundredths of the second. Gut and Goggia, and

:22:32. > :22:35.neither of them had a perfect run. Gut was great on the top part of the

:22:36. > :22:40.course but took the foot of the gas as she went around the panorama

:22:41. > :22:45.term, but then on the last turn, coming on to the cheese wedge jump,

:22:46. > :22:50.she took a little different line that is Bobby Watt gained her the

:22:51. > :22:59.lead, but they could both be beaten -- that is probably what gained her.

:23:00. > :23:04.Vonn back in style with a victory at the weekend, and the last time that

:23:05. > :23:08.the women raced here in Cortina, Vonn did the double, winning the

:23:09. > :23:15.downhill and the super G, 12 months ago on successive days. She would

:23:16. > :23:20.love to beat Gut. The two enjoy a fierce rivalry and Vonn has the

:23:21. > :23:24.early green. Terrific start from Vonn. No, she's down. She is in

:23:25. > :23:30.trouble. She is only just back injury, remember. There we see it,

:23:31. > :23:35.Lindsay Vonn not as invincible as we thought. That definitely played on

:23:36. > :23:39.her mental confidence, she speed checked and then was passive over

:23:40. > :23:46.the Delta skip and it was almost a carbon copy of a crash yesterday.

:23:47. > :23:52.Vonn is fine, no damage done. Lara Gut takes her first downhill win of

:23:53. > :23:56.the season ahead of Sophia dodgier -- Sofia Goggia.

:23:57. > :24:04.The last race, even the super G that I won, I was not 100%. You have do

:24:05. > :24:10.put everything together to win, and it was great to win here, and it's

:24:11. > :24:14.amazing in the sunshine and it's cool. I had confidence going into

:24:15. > :24:18.today and they shaved the jump a little bit but I still caught some

:24:19. > :24:23.air and I caught the edge funny. That is the ultimate test for your

:24:24. > :24:27.body, two crashes back-to-back. I do not want to be testing my body any

:24:28. > :24:31.more. I am too old and broken to be leading the fence that hard. The

:24:32. > :24:35.classic Olympia course claims Lara Gut as the winner.

:24:36. > :24:37.Earlier this week, the men's World Cup classics

:24:38. > :24:39.concluded in Schladming with the incredible night slalom.

:24:40. > :24:40.After Dave Ryding's historic result in Kitzbuehel,

:24:41. > :24:43.British interest there was higher than ever, including our own

:24:44. > :24:57.It is the loudest and most raucous race of the year. 50,000 Austrian

:24:58. > :25:02.fans will go absolutely bananas if they see a home win. But there is

:25:03. > :25:10.one man in top form who could ruin their party. Britain's own Dave

:25:11. > :25:19.Ryding. Dave Ryding away and out of the gates. Holding his nerve, and he

:25:20. > :25:28.is rocking, and Dave Ryding rewrites the record books. He is second. That

:25:29. > :25:36.is sensational. The first British racer on a World Cup podium since

:25:37. > :25:40.1981. It has gone crazy around here. I can't walk down the street without

:25:41. > :25:45.being hounded by people. It's cool, and you have to embrace it. I didn't

:25:46. > :25:48.think it would happen, and it's caught me by surprise, but at the

:25:49. > :25:57.same time it is nice. I will just focus on my skiing are not think too

:25:58. > :26:01.much about it. We will see. I am been watching Dave skiing for more

:26:02. > :26:06.than five years and when he showed up for the first time in Europe I

:26:07. > :26:10.already knew that he is very keen technically, very smooth and very

:26:11. > :26:17.keen, and now he has the speed it is just amazing. If, you are for

:26:18. > :26:22.example, from England, you have to do everything by yourself. This is a

:26:23. > :26:27.really, really awesome story. You are in the top seven in the world so

:26:28. > :26:33.you get to draw a number from one up to seven. There must be some nervous

:26:34. > :26:37.about going first in front of 50,000 Austrians? For sure. Any new

:26:38. > :26:42.experience in life is nervous, so we have do step up to the plate and do

:26:43. > :26:46.some good skiing. Dave Ryding might have looked out of place at the

:26:47. > :26:50.draw, but he was a picture of determination and focus in the

:26:51. > :26:54.start-up. Keen to prove that he belongs among the slalom elite. If

:26:55. > :26:59.there was any extra pressure on him after his performance in Kitzbuhel

:27:00. > :27:02.well, no signs of it as he skied beautifully to lay down a

:27:03. > :27:08.competitive time. The question was, how many could beat him? Well, only

:27:09. > :27:12.three. It was back to business for Henrik Kristofferson after crashing

:27:13. > :27:22.last weekend. Last year 's winner looked imperious, knocking out a

:27:23. > :27:25.1.18 second lead. Marcel Hirscher skied in typically aggressive

:27:26. > :27:30.fashion to lie second, but over half a second behind Kristofferson, and

:27:31. > :27:35.Ryding's training partner lies third after an impressive run. Stefano

:27:36. > :27:41.Gross could not be the time of Ryding but matched it to take joint

:27:42. > :27:48.fourth. The Italian will race after Ryding in run number two. Notable

:27:49. > :27:54.names behind the Britain include Manfred mole in a disappointing 12.

:27:55. > :27:57.Daniel Yule finished the first run in 11th but he did well to finish at

:27:58. > :28:04.all. The Swiss number one ended up on his back but, crucially, kept his

:28:05. > :28:07.skis on the right side of the gate. The pressure on Dave Ryding going

:28:08. > :28:12.into the race must have been enormous. Kristofferson and Hirscher

:28:13. > :28:15.are in a league of their own, but Dave Ryding is as good as anyone

:28:16. > :28:22.else in the world and is perfectly positioned for the second run. Matt

:28:23. > :28:30.Chilton has a commentary. Manuel Vilela is next to go, 11th after the

:28:31. > :28:38.first run. -- Feller. His advantage over the leader is just under half a

:28:39. > :28:45.second. He brings 0.46 to the second run. An explosive start from Manuel

:28:46. > :28:52.Feller. No mistakes so far. Skiing with beautiful turns. Feller still

:28:53. > :28:58.in front on the next split. It remains around the half a second

:28:59. > :29:10.mark. The turns in that section were slightly more laboured, but he's

:29:11. > :29:16.starting to accelerate again now. An advantage of 0.2 four. A cacophony

:29:17. > :29:26.of noise now at the foot of the course as Manuel Feller takes the

:29:27. > :29:29.lead. Into first position. A great run from Manuel Feller and that has

:29:30. > :29:33.upped the level of the volume in the finish, but it is an important race

:29:34. > :29:36.for the Austrian because there is only four of them that can race in

:29:37. > :29:42.the World Championships in just a few weeks' time, and that has booked

:29:43. > :29:48.Feller's ticket to St Moritz. Brilliant skiing top to bottom.

:29:49. > :29:54.Felix Neureuther next to ski for Germany. Didn't finish the second

:29:55. > :30:03.run near a year ago. He's been runner-up here in the past. He has

:30:04. > :30:10.ten slalom World Cup wins to his name. On his way. The German drives

:30:11. > :30:15.hard out of the start gate. A huge fan club for him here tonight. Can

:30:16. > :30:21.he make it count? Comes in with a lead of 21 hundredths. It's been

:30:22. > :30:32.reduced to seven hundredths. By the time he finds himself. 32 years old.

:30:33. > :30:38.He's not going to finish again. Neureuther's woes continue for a

:30:39. > :30:46.second year in Schladming. The Frenchman, 37, .35 his advantage

:30:47. > :30:51.over Feller, who leads the way for Austria and waits at the bottom of

:30:52. > :31:06.the mountain. He didn't finish the second run last weekend. .35 is his

:31:07. > :31:09.lead. Whittled down to just .1 three. As Lizeroux starts to settle

:31:10. > :31:14.into the rid of the pattern of gates. Set by one of the French

:31:15. > :31:21.coaches. Skidded sideways. Didn't seem to lose too much speed. Is

:31:22. > :31:29.advantage had increased again. He was up to two tenths. Lizeroux using

:31:30. > :31:37.all his experience. He's now. Seven tenths. Bit of home advantage here.

:31:38. > :31:43.The French coach responsible for the pattern of gates. Lizeroux has taken

:31:44. > :31:49.full advantage to lead in Schladming. The 37-year-old

:31:50. > :31:53.Frenchman, first in the night race. A great run from Lizeroux. Stumbled

:31:54. > :31:58.a little bit on the top of the course but when it got onto the

:31:59. > :32:03.steep, the Hill hanging away from him, it was so good, able to bend

:32:04. > :32:09.that ski and shorten the radius of the turn. Brilliant skiing from the

:32:10. > :32:17.Frenchman. Dave Riding is ready to race in Schladming. The number one,

:32:18. > :32:29.the Pathfinder in the first run. Equal fourth. Ryding ready to go.

:32:30. > :32:38.Runner-up on Sunday. The first British World Cup Alpine skier

:32:39. > :32:42.racing podium since 1981. On his way. Three hundredths is advantage

:32:43. > :32:51.over Lizeroux. It's been reduced, trailing by 1300. .39, going in the

:32:52. > :32:56.wrong direction for Dave Riding. Needs to find a bit of speed and

:32:57. > :33:04.acceleration. We saw it from Lizeroux. Can we see it's now from

:33:05. > :33:08.Dave Ryding. Gone the wrong way, .67 down. He can't fight back from that

:33:09. > :33:18.sort of deficit. Top five still possible. Ryding skis for the line.

:33:19. > :33:23.Dave Ryding not able to find the clean edge he found on the first

:33:24. > :33:27.run, skidding ever so slightly in the terms. It still skewered him a

:33:28. > :33:32.top ten result in the last race before the World Championships. --

:33:33. > :33:39.it's still secured. Stefano Gross fourth quickest after the first

:33:40. > :33:46.round. The Italian is on his way. The 30-year-old. As, clean turns to

:33:47. > :33:56.start. He won't be far from Lizeroux's time. He's in front. Nice

:33:57. > :34:02.opening from Stefano Gross. Third in Madonna on home the snow just before

:34:03. > :34:07.Christmas, his best result recently. Living dangerously, two hundredths

:34:08. > :34:14.behind, Lizeroux, who leads for France. Couple of mistakes,

:34:15. > :34:19.struggling to of the rot. This is where Lizeroux really got going.

:34:20. > :34:25.Stefano Gross is three tenths behind. It's going to take a miracle

:34:26. > :34:33.finish for the Italian to get past Lizeroux. He's gone second. It was

:34:34. > :34:40.almost a miracle finish. Lizeroux clings on by the skin of his teeth.

:34:41. > :34:49.A few Russian fans here tonight. There is their man. He's had one

:34:50. > :34:55.World Cup win and it came here in 2015. Third after the first run.

:34:56. > :35:03.Five hundredths of a second quicker than Lizeroux. 15 hundredths of a

:35:04. > :35:07.second quicker than Lizeroux after the first run. His lead is almost

:35:08. > :35:14.intact, it's been reduced fractionally. In good shape here.

:35:15. > :35:20.The taste of victory still relatively fresh. Nine hundredths.

:35:21. > :35:24.Green all the way for the Russian. Can't afford any mistakes. It was

:35:25. > :35:33.the second half of this course where Lizeroux seems to accelerate into a

:35:34. > :35:38.different dimension. You will need to do the same, Khoroshilov, he's up

:35:39. > :35:45.by almost half a second. The Russian is carving sensational terms. Will

:35:46. > :35:49.he lead again in Schladming? He will, massive advantage for

:35:50. > :35:51.Khoroshilov. Nine tenths of a second.

:35:52. > :35:59.He loves this hill in Schladming and has a similar technique to Dave

:36:00. > :36:05.Ryding, doesn't look too aggressive. Makes the speed by being ultraclean

:36:06. > :36:12.and it works on the super steep hill. Neureuther has run down a

:36:13. > :36:14.great run but there are some fast skiers left. -- Khoroshilov has run

:36:15. > :36:23.a great run. The World Cup overall standings

:36:24. > :36:26.leader, Marcel Hirscher, the last but one man on the mountain bidding

:36:27. > :36:31.to win the night race for the second time. Beautiful through the first

:36:32. > :36:39.few terms. He is attacking, look at him go, brilliant start. Half a

:36:40. > :36:42.second turns into almost a full second advantage for magnificent

:36:43. > :36:49.Marcel Hirscher, one of the greatest slalom runs I'd ever seen on Sunday

:36:50. > :36:54.to beat Dave Ryding into second. He's turning it on again tonight.

:36:55. > :37:00.The noise level is absolutely deafening. Marcel Hirscher rips it

:37:01. > :37:10.up. More than a second in front, it's been reduced now. A massive

:37:11. > :37:22.advantage of .7 four. He goes for glory. He's got it by half a second.

:37:23. > :37:28.What a start. Interestingly, didn't hold that speed all the way down.

:37:29. > :37:36.The gate is still open for Kristofferson to take the win here.

:37:37. > :37:42.A study in deep concentration. Looking for his fifth World Cup win

:37:43. > :37:50.this season. The winner in Madonna. He didn't

:37:51. > :37:59.his second run in the night race, a race he has won twice before. .32,

:38:00. > :38:07.his lead. His lead sliced apart. It's still green for Kristofferson.

:38:08. > :38:13.Steady terms now. .02, that has brought a cheer. The red light on as

:38:14. > :38:21.Kristofferson stumbles through a few of the terms in the middle part of

:38:22. > :38:30.the course. Is it aggressive enough? Kristofferson is behind. .1 four. It

:38:31. > :38:37.might be Marcel Hirscher's night or can enter Kristofferson carved his

:38:38. > :38:46.way to victory? He's done it! Nine hundredths of a second. Marcel

:38:47. > :38:49.Hirscher beaten by a whisker. Christophers and doesn't like it

:38:50. > :38:54.when the gates are closed together with not much offset, so he couldn't

:38:55. > :38:59.match Marcel Hirscher on the top of the course, lost all of his

:39:00. > :39:04.advantage, the light turned red. Over the last roller, where the gate

:39:05. > :39:08.is really offset, he was able to generate enough speed to claw back

:39:09. > :39:15.the deficit from the top part of the course and nicked it again. I'm

:39:16. > :39:22.getting closer to Henrik. He deserved it. He skied excellently.

:39:23. > :39:28.Did you have a point to prove after crashing out or did it put more

:39:29. > :39:33.pressure on you? I said it didn't affect me. It affected me a little

:39:34. > :39:39.bit for sure. It's only human to be affected. That's life. I charged at

:39:40. > :39:44.the bottom, so pretty good. I was feeling in my legs between the runs.

:39:45. > :39:48.I did what I could. I couldn't commit to going straight and getting

:39:49. > :39:55.that quick snap on. I wouldn't say I was disappointed, but I had more in

:39:56. > :40:01.May, couldn't get it out. Kristofferson takes the win by nine

:40:02. > :40:06.hundredths of a second. Khoroshilov third for Russia. Ryding continues

:40:07. > :40:10.his excellent run of form with ten. At the world Alpine para skiing

:40:11. > :40:16.Championships, Billy Knight and Brett Wild took gold in the downhill

:40:17. > :40:23.event. -- Millie Knight. A busy but brilliant few days for the GB Park

:40:24. > :40:29.and pipe freestyle athletes. Jamie Nicholls won silver at the World Cup

:40:30. > :40:30.slopestyle event on Friday. Billie Morgan and Rowan Coultas finished

:40:31. > :40:36.fourth and seventh. Amy Fuller placed fifth

:40:37. > :40:38.in the women's snowboard event, while Katie Summerhayes took fourth

:40:39. > :40:41.in the ski slopestyle yesterday. And at the prestigious

:40:42. > :40:43.Winter X Games in Colorado, James Woods just missed out

:40:44. > :40:56.on the podium, finishing fourth The GB success didn't end there.

:40:57. > :40:57.Katie Ormerod won bronze in the snowboard slopestyle and fifth in

:40:58. > :40:59.the big air competition. On Saturday, you can watch Katie

:41:00. > :41:02.and the world's best snowboarders at the Innsbruck Air and Style

:41:03. > :41:04.big air competition. It's live on the red

:41:05. > :41:06.button, BBC Sport website We'll have extended highlights

:41:07. > :41:17.on next week's Ski Sunday. We're nearly at the end of the show

:41:18. > :41:19.but before we leave we've got time for ski social.

:41:20. > :41:22.As is so often the case after you've done a course run,

:41:23. > :41:25.you've had a few questions about how you do it.

:41:26. > :41:28.Andrew asks why you don't wear a helmet or chest mounted camera,

:41:29. > :41:36.If I have the camera on my chest or helmet whenever I land from a jump

:41:37. > :41:40.the picture will get a real shock. If I have it in my hand I can use

:41:41. > :41:41.the gyroscopic stabilised gimbal which makes the pictures incredibly

:41:42. > :41:43.stable. And Nik wants to know

:41:44. > :41:55.what percentage you go I'm about 30 seconds out, but I lose

:41:56. > :42:00.most of my speed on the flat part of the course. On the steep where the

:42:01. > :42:05.races are going 90, I'll be doing 75. I'm not kidding myself, if I was

:42:06. > :42:09.to race nowadays I would be soundly beaten, these guys are much bigger,

:42:10. > :42:14.stronger, and a whole lot younger than I am. You're still doing the

:42:15. > :42:20.strike past 50. Don't use the F word. Now I am going to do is the S

:42:21. > :42:26.word, this is Christine Still shedding aged 78, congratulations.

:42:27. > :42:36.If I was still doing that Hanan Khan at that age, I'd be pushing. This

:42:37. > :42:37.proves it can breathes life into anybody. I think that is the

:42:38. > :42:42.schnapps. Now we couldn't have a programme

:42:43. > :42:45.entirely devoted to racing without sneaking in a little

:42:46. > :42:47.bit of snowboarding. If you ever wondered

:42:48. > :42:49.how good the pros were, check out what Arthur Longo's done

:42:50. > :42:51.on the relatively tame Just goes to show you don't have

:42:52. > :42:56.to be in huge back country terrain or a super park to shoot

:42:57. > :43:08.beautiful video parts. To watch the whole clip, you can,

:43:09. > :43:14.it's called euphoria. Keep sending your questions,

:43:15. > :43:16.videos and pictures in. I'm afraid that's

:43:17. > :43:20.all we have time for. And after indulging in Alpine this

:43:21. > :43:23.week, next week we have something we're in Innsbruck for the Air

:43:24. > :43:31.and Style big air competition. It'll be loud, and the riders

:43:32. > :43:34.will be going large, in the battle Tom Jones, obviously.

:43:35. > :44:15.Winston Churchill.
