0:01:04 > 0:01:09Happy New Year. It is a time for looking forward.Being positive.

0:01:09 > 0:01:16Making resolutions to be better. Whoever you are.

0:01:19 > 0:01:29Step one - be more active. Get out more.Two... Improve time

0:01:29 > 0:01:35keeping. Where were you?Sorry. I was busy.

0:01:35 > 0:01:55He's done it. 900ths of a second. Three, learn something new.

0:01:55 > 0:02:04Have you seen... Four, travel the world. There's only one destination

0:02:04 > 0:02:11on everyone's mind - South Korea.

0:02:23 > 0:02:24Welcome to Ski Sunday.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26With Christmas and New Year behind us, we're getting very

0:02:26 > 0:02:27excited about the next few

0:02:27 > 0:02:29months as we build towards the biggest Winter Olympics

0:02:29 > 0:02:31ever.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33Yes, we're heading into the classics season - we've got

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Wengen, Kitzbuehel and Schladming coming up in the next

0:02:36 > 0:02:40few weeks, and it all starts with today's slalom from

0:02:40 > 0:02:46Adelboden.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49There are 20,000 fans here ready to cheer on

0:02:49 > 0:02:53their idols in the men's slalom.

0:02:53 > 0:03:00Feast your eyes on this. What are you thinking now? Wish you

0:03:00 > 0:03:06hadn't drawn that picture? Why have you built that jump?To

0:03:06 > 0:03:10find that rush that we used to get as a kid - that big John Major in

0:03:10 > 0:03:16the park.Trying to recapture that, oh, my goodness feel -- that big

0:03:16 > 0:03:21jump in the park. Trying to recapture that, oh, my goodness

0:03:21 > 0:03:26feeling. The people in the village thought it

0:03:26 > 0:03:34would avalanche on them. It is ridiculous. Back to the men slalom.

0:03:34 > 0:03:39The depth of talent is incredible.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41right in the mix is our own Dave Ryding.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44But at the top of the pile is modern great of Alpine, Marcel Hirscher.

0:03:44 > 0:03:53The World Cup leader is the very much the man to beat at the moment.

0:03:58 > 0:04:09The golden double for Marcel Hirscher...Takes it by a mile!

0:04:11 > 0:04:18Hirs hirs has crushed the opposition. The master of slalom and

0:04:18 > 0:04:19giant slalom...

0:04:23 > 0:04:28He's in the form of his life. Where does he stand in your list of all

0:04:28 > 0:04:34time greats? He's close to being the greatest all of time. Six

0:04:34 > 0:04:39back-to-back wins. The only thing missing is that Olympic gold. He

0:04:39 > 0:04:44could go and potentially win three. What sets him apart from the rest of

0:04:44 > 0:04:49the field?I think when he was a junior racer, he always attacked

0:04:49 > 0:04:53100%. He makes great recoveries when he makes a mistake. He also doesn't

0:04:53 > 0:04:59blame himself. If he makes a mistake on one run he will change his set up

0:04:59 > 0:05:05and go at it hard on the second run. That is why you sometimes see these

0:05:05 > 0:05:09great second runs from Marcel Hirscher. We have seen Henrik

0:05:09 > 0:05:14Kristoffersen pushing hard. He seems to have dropped back. Has Marcel

0:05:14 > 0:05:18Hirscher ground him down or has Kristoffersen lost his mojo?At the

0:05:18 > 0:05:22start of the season Kristoffersen wasn't on the form of last year.

0:05:22 > 0:05:28He's got fired up into this classics run. He's pushing very hard and he's

0:05:28 > 0:05:36got that fire in his belly. What about Dave Ryding - he set high

0:05:36 > 0:05:42standards last year. He's made massive improvement from last year.

0:05:42 > 0:05:46He was the fastest on the mountain. Crashed out a few gates from home on

0:05:46 > 0:05:51the second run, but that was basically a win in the bag. He had

0:05:51 > 0:05:56problems with his vision and couldn't see, ended up 19th. He's on

0:05:56 > 0:06:02a run. In Oslo he was fourth. That took him ahead of my brother's

0:06:02 > 0:06:07record for top ten British performances. A few days ago, in

0:06:07 > 0:06:14Zagreb, seventh. If he puts down his best skiing he will be the one

0:06:14 > 0:06:21challenging them.We are lucky to have a race at all. Torrential rain

0:06:21 > 0:06:26created a landslide that washed away half of the only road into

0:06:26 > 0:06:31Adelboden. Organisers and competitors whatted

0:06:31 > 0:06:37to get in via helicopter. The atmosphere is bubbling up nicely

0:06:37 > 0:06:43now. Only the fastest 30 race again. Matt Chilton has the commentary for

0:06:43 > 0:06:44run 1.

0:06:52 > 0:07:05Michael Mat... He's first to go. He's got a nice

0:07:05 > 0:07:10clean course under foot. The younger brother of Mario, who won here in

0:07:10 > 0:07:192008 and is the reigning Olympic champion. Won in Sochi two years

0:07:19 > 0:07:31ago. A sea of faces below. Not particularly friendly if you are an

0:07:31 > 0:07:36Austrian, because they are keen Swiss ski racing fans, most of them.

0:07:36 > 0:07:43A decent run from him. He's setting the pace in this first leg and

0:07:43 > 0:07:49finishes cleanly. 56. 03. A pretty good run.

0:07:50 > 0:07:55That is a great run. He 's very good at skiing a longer distance with his

0:07:55 > 0:08:00skis. Skis very much from behind. He does nothing to slow himself down.

0:08:00 > 0:08:05Coming on to that is a big offset, the gates were set a long way, from

0:08:05 > 0:08:10side to side and that played into Matt's skills.Ready to race is

0:08:10 > 0:08:15Andre Myhrer. The Swede is a World Cup veteran, 25 podiums and eight

0:08:15 > 0:08:20victories. When he's not racing, he loves to play guitar and is a big

0:08:20 > 0:08:25fan of Jimmy when distribution. Can Andre be the wild thing and take

0:08:25 > 0:08:28victory today?

0:08:30 > 0:08:35THE COMMENTATOR: Andre Myhrer from Sweden.

0:08:35 > 0:08:43A tall, rangy figure. Out of the stall from number two. Myhrer has

0:08:43 > 0:08:49enjoyed success here in the past. He was second in the Adelboden slalom

0:08:49 > 0:08:56back in 2014. The winner of the Oslo parallel

0:08:56 > 0:09:00slalom race on New Year's Day, coming into Adelboden full of

0:09:00 > 0:09:05confidence. Trails like mad at the intermediate, by a third of a

0:09:05 > 0:09:10second. Now it has gone from flat to seriously steep. And the Swede has

0:09:10 > 0:09:16to work hard. A little late with one or two of

0:09:16 > 0:09:22these closing turns. Point 3.4 behind. A couple of skids

0:09:22 > 0:09:29on the steep. It looks as if Andre Myhrer will finish.

0:09:29 > 0:09:38Myhrer, of Sweden chasing Michael Matt's time.

0:09:45 > 0:09:51Dave Ryding progressed to icy alpine pitches and is a top performer. He

0:09:51 > 0:09:57has a love of football. He grew up supporting Liverpool. Can the Rocket

0:09:57 > 0:10:02cop it and pocket Britain's first ever World Cup win?

0:10:02 > 0:10:05THE COMMENTATOR: Racer number three in the start. Dave Ryding, from

0:10:05 > 0:10:10Great Britain. Back in the top group of starters now. Following a

0:10:10 > 0:10:15consistent run of form. Early start for Dave. So a nice,

0:10:15 > 0:10:19clean track under foot. Should be good on the flats. That is his

0:10:19 > 0:10:24speciality. There's a seriously steep section to finish this run

0:10:24 > 0:10:34coming up at the bottom. Current leader Michael Matt. Ryding is not

0:10:34 > 0:10:42far behind. 0.3.5. Seventh in Zagreb last week. Fourth in the Oslo

0:10:42 > 0:10:46parallel event. Ryding hits the steep. Nice and high on the line.

0:10:46 > 0:10:51Excellent ski from the man who learnt his trade on the plastic

0:10:51 > 0:10:58slope of Kennedle, Lancashire. 1.9 behind a point of heavy edge sets

0:10:58 > 0:11:02from Dave Ryding. Now he's back in the group. Starting to accelerate

0:11:02 > 0:11:11again. How close can he go? 1. 57 second between Matt and Ryding. It

0:11:11 > 0:11:17was just one section of the course where Dave lost about a second over

0:11:17 > 0:11:22Michael Matt. That was coming on to the steep. Those four offset gates,

0:11:22 > 0:11:25Ryding couldn't find the edge. He couldn't get that acceleration out

0:11:25 > 0:11:31of the turn over that section of the course. That was a second gone.

0:11:31 > 0:11:37THE COMMENTATOR: Next Marcel Hirscher. Winner of the last three

0:11:37 > 0:11:42World Cup slalom races. 51 World Cup wins now, following victory here

0:11:42 > 0:11:49yesterday in giant slalom. He's looking for the Adelboden double. He

0:11:49 > 0:11:56also won just before Christmas. He won the Zagreb slalom last week.

0:11:56 > 0:12:04He's in a league of his own. Fast on the flats. Effortless slalom skiing.

0:12:04 > 0:12:12Now it is harder work for Marcel Hirscher. Brilliant! So light on his

0:12:12 > 0:12:20edges. He's comfortably inside that. The Austrians could go one, two,

0:12:20 > 0:12:26here. Marcel Hirscher delivering a masterclass in this first run.

0:12:26 > 0:12:30This is quite fantastic slalom skiing and he leads by a quarter of

0:12:30 > 0:12:35a second. Marcel Hirscher miles ahead of the

0:12:35 > 0:12:41rest yet again.A great run from Marcel Hirscher. Dynamic on the top

0:12:41 > 0:12:46part of the course. Almost got jetted out a mistake after the first

0:12:46 > 0:12:51split. When he was on that final section, those big gates on the

0:12:51 > 0:12:56massive offset, he had one little skid, other than that, coming out of

0:12:56 > 0:12:59the last one, really accelerated fast and carried his speed from

0:12:59 > 0:13:02there all the way to the finish. THE COMMENTATOR: Henrik

0:13:02 > 0:13:06Kristoffersen, from Norway. The winner of the last two World Cup

0:13:06 > 0:13:10slaloms here in Adelboden. Looking for the hat-trick now.

0:13:10 > 0:13:15Still looking for his first win of the 2018 World Cup season.

0:13:15 > 0:13:21And he's in hot pursuit of Marcel Hirscher, his great rival's time T

0:13:21 > 0:13:26Marcel Hirscher, the early leader, with a quite brilliant first leg.

0:13:26 > 0:13:33Kristoffersen's hunting him down. Not much wrong with this. 24.43.

0:13:33 > 0:13:41Kristoffersen, close behind. Here's the steep section now.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43Kristoffersen shouldn't have any troubles here.

0:13:43 > 0:13:49Steep is good as far as he's concerned.

0:13:49 > 0:13:53Next intermediate time, still good enough potentially for a top three

0:13:53 > 0:14:00finish. Marcel Hirscher leads for Austria. Andre Myhrer, third, for

0:14:00 > 0:14:09Sweden. Henrik Kristoffersen skates across the line to go fourth.

0:14:11 > 0:14:17He's happy about that. Alexis Pinturault, potentially the

0:14:17 > 0:14:26best of the French today. Third yesterday in giant slalom. Has

0:14:26 > 0:14:36been a winner in World Cup racing this season.

0:14:36 > 0:14:41Pinturault flying through the flats here. That is really good, fast,

0:14:41 > 0:14:46aggressive skiing. But the toughest part of the course presents itself

0:14:46 > 0:14:51now for Alexis Pinturault. Now he has to dig deep and keep these short

0:14:51 > 0:14:55slalom skis carving through the final turns and he's a little late

0:14:55 > 0:15:01in the lie. Gravity there to rescue him. He didn't lose too much speed.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04Pinturault just over a second behind Marcel Hirscher.

0:15:10 > 0:15:14The top five or six is a realistic prospect, he is fifth, excellent

0:15:14 > 0:15:23racing. Other notable performances coming from the Italian, the winner

0:15:23 > 0:15:31here in 2015, he was eighth. And the two Swiss who came sixth and seventh

0:15:31 > 0:15:38in the first leg.

0:15:50 > 0:15:58Yet another amazing display from Marcel Hirscher. What was

0:15:58 > 0:16:01particularly expressive, taking the lead on this first run shows what

0:16:01 > 0:16:07good form he is in.Dave looked like he struggled a little.One section

0:16:07 > 0:16:11of the course, coming the steep, maybe took too much respect in first

0:16:11 > 0:16:17run.We have seen the course break-up, it is really warm, it's

0:16:17 > 0:16:21only getting hotter, how much of a factor is the course going to be?

0:16:21 > 0:16:27It's a classic example of a soft snow slalom which is why they

0:16:27 > 0:16:38reversed the top 30. 30 is not going to win, anywhere between 30 and 25,

0:16:38 > 0:16:43they will have a huge advantage and could really leap forward. Dave

0:16:43 > 0:16:48Ryding in joint tenth has the worst of both words, he is 1.8 down on

0:16:48 > 0:16:52Marcel Hirscher and he will have guys early in the second run flying

0:16:52 > 0:16:57in behind him which he has to defend so a lot of work to do yet for him.

0:16:57 > 0:16:59Lets see how he gets on.

0:17:03 > 0:17:09Dave Ryding ready to go, equal tenth after the first round. His advantage

0:17:09 > 0:17:14is .3 one.

0:17:19 > 0:17:25He beat Marcel Hirscher twice in Oslo in head-to-head racing in his

0:17:25 > 0:17:29semifinal, he had a heavy fall, damaged his hip and he is studying

0:17:29 > 0:17:40in a little bit of pain. 1200s of second behind. Dave Ryding reaches

0:17:40 > 0:17:48the steep. It's like skiing down a cliff face. Nice Highline and he's

0:17:48 > 0:17:57back in front. He might silence the Swiss here if he can finish clean

0:17:57 > 0:18:01here in Adelboden. Dave Ryding of Great Britain skiing for the lead in

0:18:01 > 0:18:07the World Cup, he's just missed it! Great top section and really good on

0:18:07 > 0:18:15the steep, the highest from behind we scene any racer, but not able to

0:18:15 > 0:18:18carry the speed through the verticality and onto the finish

0:18:18 > 0:18:21line, just missing out on the lead.

0:18:31 > 0:18:390.31 his advantage. The Swiss youngster leading the way here in

0:18:39 > 0:18:43Adelboden. The majority of the fans are hoping each one of the later

0:18:43 > 0:18:48starters are part from the two Swiss guys who are yet to come, failed to

0:18:48 > 0:18:56eclipse the leading time. Cutting it fine. Nine hundredths of a second,

0:18:56 > 0:19:01still in front. Onto the steep pitch now. This is where the race can be

0:19:01 > 0:19:10won are lost. He's back in front. Three tenths. A significant

0:19:10 > 0:19:22advantage. Can you convert it into top spot? Yes! 100th of a second.

0:19:22 > 0:19:26Doesn't get any closer.

0:19:31 > 0:19:33Winner here in 2015,

0:19:39 > 0:19:49. Gross Has an advantage of 0.30. The Italian adding to his lead all

0:19:49 > 0:19:56the way down. Now he reaches this plateau, a couple of mistakes just

0:19:56 > 0:20:02before that section. Now he has to drive and try to harness the speed

0:20:02 > 0:20:05before the ground literally drops away beneath them, round the corner

0:20:05 > 0:20:19he goes. This cliff edge finish. Gross dealing with it nicely. The

0:20:19 > 0:20:24course is rotted and bumpy underfoot. The Italian is cruising

0:20:24 > 0:20:30through the final few turns. It's fast, it's direct. Its first

0:20:30 > 0:20:36position for a Gross of Italy! Really has great hip and elation so

0:20:36 > 0:20:41it means he can keep his centre of mass going in a straight line as

0:20:41 > 0:20:44possible while his legs go either side of the gates and that's

0:20:44 > 0:20:48important when you have a big offset like we do on this really steep

0:20:48 > 0:20:57finish section here in Adelboden. The Frenchman in good shape after

0:20:57 > 0:21:04the first run. His advantage is reasonable. 0.35 he brings into this

0:21:04 > 0:21:11second run, over the man in the leaders cheer, Gross. Little mistake

0:21:11 > 0:21:16just at the bottom of the first steep, comes on to this flat

0:21:16 > 0:21:21plateau. Still in front. Yes, but only just. Two hundredths of a

0:21:21 > 0:21:29second. That means it has to be absolutely perfect on the pitch.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33Onto this final steep section. He is making a meal of it, one or two of

0:21:33 > 0:21:37these turns are a little laboured. He's into the red zone for the first

0:21:37 > 0:21:40time.

0:21:45 > 0:21:52He's done it! 6p of a second.

0:21:55 > 0:22:00Henrik Kristoffersen ready to race, he was nicknamed wild child as a

0:22:00 > 0:22:04kid, apparently unable to sit still and always having energy to burn.

0:22:04 > 0:22:09But things might be slowing down off the slopes, settling down with his

0:22:09 > 0:22:14pooch and childhood sweetheart. Will he make a dog's dinner of this tough

0:22:14 > 0:22:17course? Or will he be howling with the light in the finish area?

0:22:17 > 0:22:24COMMENTATOR: Henrik Kristoffersen looking for the Adelboden hat-trick,

0:22:24 > 0:22:28winning the last two World Cup races on this hill. Starts his second run

0:22:28 > 0:22:37with an advantage of 0.46.

0:22:42 > 0:22:49Dave Ryding assets equal eighth. Good start for Henrik Kristoffersen

0:22:49 > 0:22:54who is still in search of his first win of the World Cup season. 0.43 in

0:22:54 > 0:23:01front. Goals from flat to steep. All of a sudden. He's got to try and

0:23:01 > 0:23:07stay light on his ages. Maintain as direct line as possible. As he tries

0:23:07 > 0:23:19to hunt down the leading time. He is doing supreme slalom here, this is

0:23:19 > 0:23:26remarkable, he leads by miles! 0.6 seven. In the finish, in the lead,

0:23:26 > 0:23:31did not look happy with the run, the timing just off on a couple of turns

0:23:31 > 0:23:35and when you don't get into the rut you bounce late and it takes away

0:23:35 > 0:23:38all of your energy particularly when it's getting chopped up like this.

0:23:38 > 0:23:44You need to make sure you are skiing round and from behind.COMMENTATOR:

0:23:44 > 0:23:50Quarter of a second the advantage over Henrik Kristoffersen. Not the

0:23:50 > 0:23:58cleanest start. Took a couple of wider lines in the first few turns.

0:23:58 > 0:24:05Now he settling down. Needs to come off the top steep section and all to

0:24:05 > 0:24:09this flat section below and carry the speed, now he's got to drive and

0:24:09 > 0:24:16try to pick up further acceleration, looking all right. Remember how good

0:24:16 > 0:24:20Henrik Kristoffersen was on the steep, from here on in the Norwegian

0:24:20 > 0:24:28was in a different league. He arrives on this final pitch in

0:24:28 > 0:24:31Adelboden. He's lost his advantage, he trails by more than half a

0:24:31 > 0:24:37second. And with just two to come, I think Henrik Kristoffersen will be

0:24:37 > 0:24:44guaranteed a place on the podium. No luck, second for the moment with two

0:24:44 > 0:24:52races to come. Henrik Kristoffersen will finish on the podium.Mike, the

0:24:52 > 0:24:58Austrian isn't even the best skier in his family but there is no shame

0:24:58 > 0:25:03in your brother is the Olympic slalom champion and a former ski

0:25:03 > 0:25:06cross world champion. Now he is emerging from his siblings shadows

0:25:06 > 0:25:10taking his first World Cup victory last season and finishing a close

0:25:10 > 0:25:17second to Marshall Fisher in Zagreb this week. Can he become the

0:25:17 > 0:25:23favourite son in the family with a victory in Adelboden today?

0:25:23 > 0:25:30COMMENTATOR: His advantage almost half a second.

0:25:35 > 0:25:430.49, good start, clean start, no mistakes from Matt. Now off the

0:25:43 > 0:25:47steeps and onto the flats, this is where he's going to have to move

0:25:47 > 0:25:51through the gears. Try to pick up some pace. He's doing just that,

0:25:51 > 0:25:56slightly over the tales of his skis and he recovers well, onto the

0:25:56 > 0:26:00steep, little sideways scared for Matt but did not seem to lose too

0:26:00 > 0:26:07much time. This is where he nailed the bottom pitch, Henrik

0:26:07 > 0:26:14Kristoffersen, can Matt match him? Still green for Matt. The last few

0:26:14 > 0:26:19turns, starting to let them run and allowing his body to follow, he's

0:26:19 > 0:26:28got it! 0.03! Might Matt leads the way.Henrik Kristoffersen is not

0:26:28 > 0:26:37having no luck like he had last season denied by Mike by just three.

0:26:37 > 0:26:41Skiing from behind, getting the ski into the rat and carrying the speed

0:26:41 > 0:26:48all the way. No big mistakes, let's wait and see.The last man Marcel

0:26:48 > 0:26:58Hirscher. In the red bib as the leader in the World Cup standings,

0:26:58 > 0:27:03and won the giant slalom here 24 hours ago. He loves the course in

0:27:03 > 0:27:12Adelboden. He adds to his advantage on the top. Now he hits the flat.

0:27:12 > 0:27:18The acceleration is sharp and dynamic from Marcel Hirscher. Now

0:27:18 > 0:27:23the transition. The calm before the storm. The flat before the speed.

0:27:23 > 0:27:28He's on top of them, early and high in the line. It's sensational from

0:27:28 > 0:27:36Marcel Hirscher. He's getting quicker! He's almost home. This

0:27:36 > 0:27:43could be World Cup win number 52 for one of the greatest of all time. He

0:27:43 > 0:27:57wins! Eggs and Austrian 1-2 on Swiss snow. World Cup win number 52.It

0:27:57 > 0:28:03seems like Marcel Hirscher can do no wrong with a coarse chopped up like

0:28:03 > 0:28:07a field, able to get acceleration out of each turn and absorbing the

0:28:07 > 0:28:11bumps between the gates. Absolutely

0:28:11 > 0:28:11out of each turn and absorbing the bumps between the gates. Absolutely

0:28:11 > 0:28:14brilliant from the Austrian. Thinking back to where you wear in

0:28:14 > 0:28:17November coming back from the broken ankle did you really think you would

0:28:17 > 0:28:22be sitting here on the back of three back-to-back victories? No chance.

0:28:22 > 0:28:26It's different when you have no space for let me say training,

0:28:26 > 0:28:30nearly every training run was a race. I had to push it really hard

0:28:30 > 0:28:37because I had to gain five tenths per second each day because I was

0:28:37 > 0:28:42that far behind in training at the beginning. Three seconds around it.

0:28:42 > 0:28:47I was completely on fire to push it as hard as possible, maybe more than

0:28:47 > 0:28:53ever.Very challenging conditions here, first run, were you happy? The

0:28:53 > 0:28:56first run was good at the top then I made some mistakes at the bottom and

0:28:56 > 0:29:00a silly one right at the bottom so I knew I could do better, I just did

0:29:00 > 0:29:03not take advantage of my start number which annoyed me. But came

0:29:03 > 0:29:11out firing in the second round, it was just very difficult. What a race

0:29:11 > 0:29:13from Marcel Hirscher, doing the Adelboden double again.

0:29:13 > 0:29:13from Marcel Hirscher, doing the Adelboden double again.

0:29:13 > 0:29:16from Marcel Hirscher, doing the Adelboden double again.

0:29:16 > 0:29:20from Marcel Hirscher, doing the Adelboden double again. The British

0:29:20 > 0:29:22number one finishing equal 12.

0:29:47 > 0:29:50With the World Cup in full swing, and everyone looking forward

0:29:50 > 0:29:53to the coming Winter Olympics, it's easy to think that the pinnacle

0:29:53 > 0:29:54of snowsport is in competition.

0:29:54 > 0:29:57But that's not always the case, especially in action sports.

0:29:57 > 0:30:02At the very heart of those disciplines is

0:30:02 > 0:30:04a culture of creativity and progression, where athletes push

0:30:04 > 0:30:07themselves to do things that have never been done before.

0:30:07 > 0:30:10Tim Warwood went to Livigno in Italy last year to see British freeskier

0:30:10 > 0:30:19Paddy Graham do just that.

0:30:24 > 0:30:31I am here in Livigno in Italy. You are probably wondering, what is he

0:30:31 > 0:30:36doing there - there's no snow. Wait until you get up the mountain -

0:30:36 > 0:30:41something pretty special is going down.

0:30:45 > 0:30:53What you thinking now? Wish you hadn't drawn that picture? That is

0:30:53 > 0:30:58some pile of snow you have built there. Why have you built that?I

0:30:58 > 0:31:03think basically we have build this jump to find that rush that we used

0:31:03 > 0:31:10to get as a kid hitting the big jump in the park. Recapture that, oh, my

0:31:10 > 0:31:16goodness feeling. When you jump off the middle diving board you think, I

0:31:16 > 0:31:21will go to the five metre and you get to the top and you think, that

0:31:21 > 0:31:24looks bigger up here. You edge out and it takes so long for you to go,

0:31:24 > 0:31:29but then you jump off and you are like, oh, that was easy, I can do

0:31:29 > 0:31:37that.Should you get from the take off to the landing, then that's

0:31:37 > 0:31:44going to be the biggest kind of freestyle jump ever done, isn't it?

0:31:44 > 0:31:48Apart from going big, we want to break an air time length of over

0:31:48 > 0:31:53four seconds in the air.Wow! In the air for four seconds. There is a lot

0:31:53 > 0:31:58you can think about for four seconds. How are you feeling no now?

0:31:58 > 0:32:03Are you tingling inside a little bit?We arrived this morning. It was

0:32:03 > 0:32:08the first time I have seen the jump fully built. I was blown away when I

0:32:08 > 0:32:13saw it the first time.

0:32:21 > 0:32:27When Paddy said, I want to do this jump. What did you think?I thought

0:32:27 > 0:32:32this is what we are waiting for, break the limits and push the sport

0:32:32 > 0:32:38further. Give us the facts and figures - what

0:32:38 > 0:32:44has gone into building this jump? You measure the terrain to see how

0:32:44 > 0:32:49much snow you need. 150,000 cubic metres of snow to build this. A

0:32:49 > 0:32:54normal park jump has 30,000. Five times a normal park jump has to be

0:32:54 > 0:33:01pushed around. It ended up being eight cats running for eight weeks,

0:33:01 > 0:33:1524 hours. It was complicated because the inclination is over the maximum.

0:33:15 > 0:33:21How jump is this from the take off to the safe part to the landing? It

0:33:21 > 0:33:26is around 47, 48 metres. Goodness, gracious! That is a big

0:33:26 > 0:33:33old jump.A normal is between eight and 12. A medium jump for good

0:33:33 > 0:33:42riders.His biggest undertaken yet, he tests the jump with the legs of

0:33:42 > 0:33:57steel crew.It is like, I was...If you have constant 110 and working to

0:33:57 > 0:34:03120...We like to ski together. We have a tight crew. It is fun to hang

0:34:03 > 0:34:09out with all the guys. We filmed the final section in Dubai

0:34:09 > 0:34:16for a movie working on that year, it was called Passenger. The finale

0:34:16 > 0:34:25were 16 skiers jumping over each other on six or seven jumps.

0:34:33 > 0:34:37Do you see what you're trying to do here as a continuation of that? Or

0:34:37 > 0:34:42is it something different? It is a project for myself that I have been

0:34:42 > 0:34:45working for a while. But at the same time free-skiing isn't just about

0:34:45 > 0:34:50one person. It is about sharing your experiences with other people and

0:34:50 > 0:34:59that's why I've got some of my best friends have come and skied with me.

0:35:04 > 0:35:09Expectations for the next few days? Expectations are high.16 metres

0:35:09 > 0:35:16high. 17 metres. 18...40 metres long. I want to have a good time. I

0:35:16 > 0:35:23want the jump to work. I want to make that dream become reality of

0:35:23 > 0:35:27flying the longest on freestyle skis.

0:35:30 > 0:35:34Day two then, up here on the mountain and the conditions couldn't

0:35:34 > 0:35:40be any better. Everybody's really up for this. Are we going to see the

0:35:40 > 0:35:42four-second jump today?

0:35:45 > 0:35:52Scary.For sure flying.

0:35:53 > 0:35:56Yeah!

0:36:00 > 0:36:09CHEERINGThat was absolutely huge! He seemed to hang in the air

0:36:09 > 0:36:22forever. I've got goose bumps all over. Opens the account.

0:36:33 > 0:36:43Whoa! Yeah! #18How did it feel?It was

0:36:43 > 0:36:52unreal, mate. Unbelievable! It was really nice to see the boys.

0:37:03 > 0:37:10Once you're in the air and you know you'll make it...Yeah? Best feeling

0:37:10 > 0:37:15ever?Yeah.

0:37:24 > 0:37:33It's kind of mellow. There you have it, the session was immense. Whether

0:37:33 > 0:37:40intentionally or not Paddy Graham and the Legs of Steel crew have

0:37:40 > 0:37:44pushed the boundaries of freestyle skiing. What did it feel like to fly

0:37:44 > 0:37:50like that?It was such... It was so unreal going into the jump. There

0:37:50 > 0:37:55was nothing more you could do than go as fast as you can. As soon as I

0:37:55 > 0:38:02knew I wasn't going to land on the knuckle, I felt good.But one of

0:38:02 > 0:38:05Europe's most accomplished free-skiers wasn't done yet.Once we

0:38:05 > 0:38:11get back up to the jump, we'll do a speed check. A second straight air

0:38:11 > 0:38:20and then I'd really like to get on with some tricks.

0:38:31 > 0:38:37What do you think, man?

0:38:41 > 0:38:45The mood shifted, everybody has got their game faces on. I think we will

0:38:45 > 0:38:51see someone hit this jump right now. # Oh, come on

0:38:51 > 0:38:57# We've got our backs to the wall # Get on

0:38:57 > 0:39:02# And watch out

0:39:15 > 0:39:21The moment I left the lip of the jump, I knew it. I knew I was going

0:39:21 > 0:39:26too fast. If I would of run out of degree to

0:39:26 > 0:39:33land on, then I would have been in a much worse place, you know.

0:39:38 > 0:39:45I've done what thousands of other skiers have already done, ruptures,

0:39:45 > 0:39:51and had a small fracture in my other foot, in the ankle. I came away

0:39:51 > 0:39:57pretty unscathed in that sense.

0:40:01 > 0:40:08We're on the edge of what's possible and we're taking those risks, but,

0:40:08 > 0:40:12you know, that's what skiing is.

0:40:15 > 0:40:17And I'm delighted to say that Paddy's joined us.

0:40:17 > 0:40:19Firstly, how's your leg?

0:40:19 > 0:40:25How is the rehab? It was a long summer. I am happy to be on the

0:40:25 > 0:40:30slopes and ready for 2018. I am surprised it was just the knee.

0:40:30 > 0:40:34That jump was ridiculously big. Is it fair to say that projects like

0:40:34 > 0:40:39yours are if not more important than competition when it comes to

0:40:39 > 0:40:43progression in free-skiing? Freestyle skiing is a young sport.

0:40:43 > 0:40:47In the end there were no competitions. You would go out with

0:40:47 > 0:40:51your friends, film each other and put out ski movies. It is what we're

0:40:51 > 0:40:54doing today. It is one way to progress the sport, definitely and

0:40:54 > 0:40:59you see stuff going from videos andedits online into the

0:40:59 > 0:41:03competitions and vice versa and they really bounce off each other and

0:41:03 > 0:41:08that's what makes free-skiing such a well-rounded discipline, I guess.

0:41:08 > 0:41:15Well now is the time we do Ski Social. We normally ask viewers to

0:41:15 > 0:41:25send in videos and pictures. Can we give it a blast?Let's go and have

0:41:25 > 0:41:28some fun.

0:41:38 > 0:41:42MUSIC

0:41:46 > 0:41:53I LOVE TO WATCH THEM IN NONINTIMIDATING TERRAIN.WE DON'T

0:41:53 > 0:42:00EXPECT YOU TO match Paddy Graham's skill. Please keep on sending in

0:42:00 > 0:42:09your videos.Getting ready... Amazing!And abroad.

0:42:09 > 0:42:13Just use the hashtag Ski Sunday. And we want your questions as well.

0:42:13 > 0:42:17Sheridan wants to know, who classifies the runs in ski resorts?

0:42:17 > 0:42:22Who decides which constitutes a blue, a red and a black It is the

0:42:22 > 0:42:27resorts who decide. So a blue run in St Anton would be red anywhere else.

0:42:27 > 0:42:33It is important to go online and read reviews before you book.I have

0:42:33 > 0:42:40done all the blacks...Next question from Gunby. He dislocated his

0:42:40 > 0:42:43shoulder a year ago. He wants to know, what is the best way of

0:42:43 > 0:42:47getting his confidence back up to get back on the mountain? Does he

0:42:47 > 0:42:54wear a brace? Does he wear body armour?I think braces and body

0:42:54 > 0:42:59armour do well to help you cope. I think you are a year on from your

0:42:59 > 0:43:05injury, is just physio. Spend time in the gym. Wrap that joint up in

0:43:05 > 0:43:11muscles to protect it. Get yourself a couple of kung-fu shoulders.That

0:43:11 > 0:43:15is all we have time for this week. Next week we have a contrast between

0:43:15 > 0:43:20loud and quiet. We have the serene and inspiring story of a young

0:43:20 > 0:43:27disabled woman taking her first ever snowboarding trip. And we will be in

0:43:27 > 0:43:35Wengen where thousands will be scheming as their heroes take on the

0:43:35 > 0:43:38fastest downhill slopes. The volume levels will be peaking. They have

0:43:38 > 0:43:43come from all over the world to marvel at the fastest men in the

0:43:43 > 0:43:49mountains.4,200 meters to ski.He's going for it.

0:43:49 > 0:43:57He's led by half a second.Oh, a horrible crash!No!

0:43:57 > 0:44:05He's getting quicker all the time. Yet again...He leads the wasmt the

0:44:05 > 0:44:10noise at the finish is astonishing!
