:00:36. > :00:43.The fear of the underdog out the Welsh Open, outside centre at the

:00:44. > :00:47.moment in the Spotlight, one big name after another knocked out early

:00:48. > :00:50.as we get down to the last 32. One of the bigger shocks of all, this

:00:51. > :00:54.man leaving the building last night, the chance for a record fifth Welsh

:00:55. > :01:00.title will have to wait. One of the most popular players in

:01:01. > :01:07.the game against Mark Davis. The 97 break more than enough to take the

:01:08. > :01:11.early frame. He does not miss much, does he, Ronnie? That will put paid

:01:12. > :01:20.to any possibility of Mark Davis winning their second frame. Yes, I

:01:21. > :01:23.just think he's feeling the pressure of playing Ronnie O'Sullivan. Ronnie

:01:24. > :01:31.O'Sullivan now leads. He saw the form on the table. He has not taken

:01:32. > :01:35.any chances. The early break of 65 has won Mark Davis his fourth frame

:01:36. > :01:52.and he trails by 3-1. I thought for a minute he was going

:01:53. > :01:57.to miss it, he will be absolutely delighted and he now closes to

:01:58. > :02:08.within one at 3-2. A little bit out of sorts now. Just biding his time,

:02:09. > :02:10.the deciding frame, it is 3-3. Three quarters of an hour ago, I never saw

:02:11. > :02:25.this coming. Ronnie O'Sullivan comes out of his

:02:26. > :02:30.chair to congratulate Mark Davis on an excellent win. He goes through

:02:31. > :02:35.into round three. He played better than me, so he

:02:36. > :02:40.deserves the win. Beating Ronnie is very special, I haven't beaten him

:02:41. > :02:45.for a long time, I'm not alone in that, I'm sure! And to do it from

:02:46. > :02:50.3-0 down is a bit more special. O'Sullivan is one of a long list of

:02:51. > :02:54.leading players to make an early exit this year. Only six of the

:02:55. > :02:58.world's top 16 remaining. Including the world number one Mark Selby and

:02:59. > :03:01.the man we will see later today, Judd Trump. Lots of the big hitters

:03:02. > :03:10.are no longer around. To make sense of it is Terry

:03:11. > :03:13.Griffiths. So much to talk about. What for you has been the most

:03:14. > :03:24.eye-catching and impressive results so far? I'm a bit biased, the Welsh

:03:25. > :03:28.boys. Michael White. Two tremendous matches, last frame finishes, all

:03:29. > :03:34.the excitement snooker gives you. It is very special for Lee Walker

:03:35. > :03:38.because he was having a hammering after Neil Robertson, which a lot of

:03:39. > :03:44.people have been through and he did a 130 break. And then I hear Mark

:03:45. > :03:49.Williams said, that is the longest break I have ever seen in my life! I

:03:50. > :03:54.was pleased. They are good friends. It is nice to see it, he has come

:03:55. > :04:00.back into the professional game and Michael has been around for quite a

:04:01. > :04:04.while, in his home event. And he looked as close to losing at one

:04:05. > :04:09.time. Those are the things people like in snooker and that is why we

:04:10. > :04:12.get a lot of viewers and people coming to watch. Tremendous for them

:04:13. > :04:17.with Neil Robertson being knocked out by Lee Walker and Liang Wenbo by

:04:18. > :04:23.Michael White, two top 16 players going. When does a surprise not

:04:24. > :04:29.become as a prize? The shocks happen on a more regular basis now, is it a

:04:30. > :04:32.sign there's strength and depth now? Yes, there's, a lot of good players

:04:33. > :04:37.that you don't see a lot of television because they get knocked

:04:38. > :04:42.out on the outside tables, but they are all good players. And when the

:04:43. > :04:49.top player to win, especially in the first rounds, they are a bit edgy.

:04:50. > :04:53.If an opponent can get in quickly and win friends, the pressure is on

:04:54. > :04:56.the top-seeded because wheezing first round, there's no money and

:04:57. > :05:04.points for the ranking so all these things count. -- losing first round.

:05:05. > :05:08.There have been a few top players playing each other early on and it

:05:09. > :05:12.is what Barry Hearn wants to do. First four makes a difference as

:05:13. > :05:18.well. The players would prefer longer matches than that. Lose the

:05:19. > :05:22.first frame and you start to defend. I wonder if we will have more shocks

:05:23. > :05:29.ahead throughout the day. This is coming up for you this afternoon.

:05:30. > :05:35.We start with a bit of Barry, semifinalist three years ago and the

:05:36. > :05:41.man who beat Welshman Ryan Day to win the world Grand Prix.

:05:42. > :05:45.Living the teenage dream, Welsh wild card Jackson Page ready for a

:05:46. > :05:49.third-round tie the answers wildest expectations.

:05:50. > :05:52.One of the bigger shocks in the tournament's history if he can Trump

:05:53. > :05:58.this man, the world number four playing in wait.

:05:59. > :06:01.Still big stars in the competition, none bigger than the reigning world

:06:02. > :06:06.champion who is chasing a second Welsh Open when.

:06:07. > :06:12.So we start with a man who won a ranking title just last weekend,

:06:13. > :06:19.ending Ryan Day's hopes of winning one, expert analysis now on Barry

:06:20. > :06:23.Hawkins. Some players you get in a jaw and

:06:24. > :06:27.you think, I'm in for a tough afternoon and Barry Hawkins is

:06:28. > :06:32.certainly one of those. Yes, and he has always been so. As I junior, he

:06:33. > :06:37.was in the generation above me, a bit older and he was the one. His

:06:38. > :06:42.scoring and his long potting, he was the complete package at 15. Had a

:06:43. > :06:46.very, very good technique. And great things were expected of him and went

:06:47. > :06:51.you play him these days it you are in for a really tough games. Did he

:06:52. > :06:56.have a hiatus in his career, it you did not see him for a while? He was

:06:57. > :06:59.the best junior and amateur and he turned professional and I remember

:07:00. > :07:06.he vanished for a year or two and there was a rumour that he had a bit

:07:07. > :07:11.of a problem with letting go. I would not goes so far as to say he

:07:12. > :07:17.had". But there was definitely a problem. And for someone with such a

:07:18. > :07:22.good technique, he got to the point where he would be down at the shot

:07:23. > :07:28.with a perfect hinge, his elbows in the right place, great grip, and you

:07:29. > :07:32.get the back and his paws turned into a halt and that developed into

:07:33. > :07:37.a bit of a problem. And I think he had a bit of a time-out or certainly

:07:38. > :07:40.time working on things. And came back, fixed it and gone on to great

:07:41. > :07:44.things. He's beastly mentally tough to get over that is because those

:07:45. > :07:50.things can ruin careers. He's a heavy scorer with somebody who is

:07:51. > :07:55.more methodical sometimes goes unnoticed, is matchplay is excellent

:07:56. > :07:57.and he has become very good in the big tournaments, reaching finals and

:07:58. > :08:04.semifinals. He's very dangerous in the long frame format and if he gets

:08:05. > :08:09.on a roll, he's very difficult to prevent. He picks up momentum in a

:08:10. > :08:13.game and you can sense it, you sense he's hitting his stride. And he

:08:14. > :08:18.becomes extremely hard to keep up with. And you don't need to be too

:08:19. > :08:22.complacent, Judd Trump in the Masters had that unbelievable game

:08:23. > :08:26.with Neil Robertson and he meets Barry Hawkins the next day,

:08:27. > :08:30.different style of play, and suddenly he's going home because

:08:31. > :08:34.Barry Hawkins is that all the time. He's always there and you have to

:08:35. > :08:37.beat him. And I have never seen him play the wrong shot, he always plays

:08:38. > :08:41.the right shot for the correct moment, if it is right to push the

:08:42. > :08:46.attack but, he goes for it and he's more than capable of holding his own

:08:47. > :08:51.with anybody. If it is a safety and tactical fire, he can stand there

:08:52. > :08:55.all day and mix and match, he's very good in all areas. He has won and

:08:56. > :09:02.event but to kick onto the next level, does he need to get his head

:09:03. > :09:05.in front again? I think so, Barry needs more exposure at the finals

:09:06. > :09:08.and the Majors. That is all he's lacking. I would be very surprised

:09:09. > :09:16.if he finished his career without at least one major on his mantle piece.

:09:17. > :09:19.Standing between Barry Hawkins and a place unless 16 is the man who

:09:20. > :09:26.knocked out Ryan Day yesterday, the world number 36 from Thailand,

:09:27. > :09:31.Thepchaiya Un-Nooh. We read it with -- we join with Hawkins leading,

:09:32. > :09:32.Thepchaiya Un-Nooh to play and no score. Darren Morgan and Willie

:09:33. > :09:56.Thorne your commentators. He will be very disappointed he did

:09:57. > :10:00.not catch that thin. Never kiss the blue on your way back or you are

:10:01. > :10:08.leaving your opponent with an easy pot. Another left-handed player who

:10:09. > :10:17.plays with the rest right-handed. It is weird how many of the

:10:18. > :10:24.professionals do that. And that is not too bad, even though it goes on

:10:25. > :10:29.the cushion, he can get onto the cue. That is what he would like to

:10:30. > :10:33.get onto first, but in the ideal world, he would look to have the gap

:10:34. > :10:38.between the cue and the black to get to the cue on the left-hand side but

:10:39. > :10:40.he would be fortunate to get to that which is why he's playing for the

:10:41. > :12:27.one behind the black spot. Only just far enough. The main thing

:12:28. > :12:39.is, he's nicely on this cue. Such a solid player, Barry Hawkins. It is

:12:40. > :12:46.fantastic how he has transformed himself, always been a great player.

:12:47. > :12:58.Whatever has changed, he now believes he can win. And win at all

:12:59. > :13:05.levels and every event he plays in. He has still got a couple of loose

:13:06. > :13:09.reds out. Two just below the pack. We will probably see him get rid of

:13:10. > :13:18.these two before he starts going at back. Reds. I mean, the one just

:13:19. > :13:27.above the one he's going to play now, he might just leave that this

:13:28. > :13:29.neck shot, after putting red and black so instead of putting the red,

:13:30. > :13:57.he can disturb that cluster of reds. Not always guaranteed to screw back

:13:58. > :14:02.off the question, but he will play that off the reverse back to the

:14:03. > :14:07.blue, so he has done very well and now that should and could be a

:14:08. > :14:12.frame. Rather than play with the plane ball, the white wood finish

:14:13. > :14:15.somewhere between the pink and blue, if he had played with a bit of

:14:16. > :14:27.left-hand side to make it spin the table. Already had breaks of 34, 69,

:14:28. > :15:22.51 and counting now. So he's in the groove.

:15:23. > :15:29.Still struggling with the pace, I do not know if it is a planned but he

:15:30. > :15:35.has obviously played for the bottom red and he has not come far enough

:15:36. > :15:43.but there still should be a red that he can pot. That should take him

:15:44. > :15:58.past the winning line. Pot these left-handed, he will not risk the

:15:59. > :16:01.cannon into the Jamie Cope. -- into the red.

:16:02. > :16:10.Has not done an awful lot wrong, Thepchaiya, he has played quite

:16:11. > :16:15.steadily. The standard you have to play these days, you cannot miss

:16:16. > :16:19.easy balls and he has missed a couple and the key problem, he has

:16:20. > :16:27.not found the cushion often enough for the safety exchange. Safety

:16:28. > :16:36.success is only at 78% so he's a bit low on the safety. Definitely got a

:16:37. > :16:40.better putting game than he has a safety game so his safety play will

:16:41. > :16:46.never be up in the 90s, I would not have thought. But a very good break,

:16:47. > :16:53.a nod of the head from Thepchaiya. Barry Hawkins, a break of 79, enough

:16:54. > :16:58.to take him into a 3-1 lead. Yes, a smooth start for Barry

:16:59. > :17:02.Hawkins. Let's pick them up in frame five with Hawkins at the table on a

:17:03. > :17:09.break of 34. Barry Hawkins. He has not made too

:17:10. > :17:16.many mistakes, he has been very solid. I think for Thepchaiya

:17:17. > :17:23.Un-Nooh, it is back to the drawing board. As Willie le Roux did,

:17:24. > :17:30.working with Terry Griffiths. So I think they have to come up with a

:17:31. > :17:36.new plan -- as Willie alluded to. The plan they had in place today,

:17:37. > :17:46.unfortunately for Thepchaiya, has not worked. I do feel that young

:17:47. > :17:54.Thepchaiya Un-Nooh has a fantastic future ahead of himself. He's a very

:17:55. > :17:59.exciting player. This has not been his day-to-day, he's going to be

:18:00. > :18:07.bitterly disappointed. And we can see heads down. You can't win them

:18:08. > :18:12.all. This just has not been one of them days for him. He has got to put

:18:13. > :18:17.it to the back of his mind. Get ready for the next one. Which is

:18:18. > :18:35.going to be very soon, next week at the shoot out. Barry Hawkins

:18:36. > :18:42.continues to march on. Just this one remaining red to put him safe. The

:18:43. > :18:46.only thing that has been missing from this match is the centuries. He

:18:47. > :18:52.has been scoring heavily among the balls. The crowd here at the

:18:53. > :19:07.Motorpoint Arena applauding the match ball, now can he make a

:19:08. > :19:13.century. Probably not now. Played the screw down the back of the red

:19:14. > :19:16.in open play to get down to the red in the bottom right-hand corner. He

:19:17. > :19:31.will still take some sort of pot one. Red has not run in and we'll

:19:32. > :19:37.Thepchaiya Carry On? Having a little look at the scoreboard? And Barry

:19:38. > :19:41.Hawkins will be a 4-1 winner. Yes, indeed, Hawkins had done enough to

:19:42. > :19:45.get over the line, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh needing snookers, he could

:19:46. > :19:51.not get them and Hawkins making sure he's not another big name to go home

:19:52. > :19:57.early. Having been impressed at the weekend, and remaining on course for

:19:58. > :20:03.success here in Cardiff. -- in Preston.

:20:04. > :20:09.So many shocks this year, it must be a million to -- relief to go through

:20:10. > :20:14.that cleanly? Yes, Un-Nooh is very unpredictable and phenomenal player.

:20:15. > :20:17.It was nice to come through. Relatively easy in the end. How

:20:18. > :20:21.difficult has it been to come here to focus so soon after one of the

:20:22. > :20:22.all-time great highlights, a fantastic win at the world Grand

:20:23. > :20:32.Prix? It was quite hard, the first round

:20:33. > :20:38.Eiffel Tower ball, but I battled. The last two, a couple of good sleep

:20:39. > :20:43.so I don't feel too bad, a little jaded but not too bad, try and keep

:20:44. > :20:48.the run going if I can. You are one of only six top seed still in this

:20:49. > :20:53.year's Welsh Open. Do you think I'm gone, the draw is opening up nicely,

:20:54. > :20:57.or are you walking scared because if you think the likes of Robertson and

:20:58. > :21:01.O'Sullivan can get knocked out, it can happen to me? Yes, it is a short

:21:02. > :21:06.format and you can go home at any stage. A lot of great players left

:21:07. > :21:10.and tournament winners as well, so I have won a tournament this year so

:21:11. > :21:14.whatever happens from now is a massive bonus. If I can keep playing

:21:15. > :21:22.all right, I have a good chance, I suppose. Keep the early nights

:21:23. > :21:24.coming and we will see you in the next round, well done.

:21:25. > :21:27.Yes, he looks in good shape, Barry Hawkins. Terry Griffiths, difficult

:21:28. > :21:32.for you, you have coached both players, difficult to watch, how

:21:33. > :21:36.would you assess that win for Barry? It was quite straightforward for me,

:21:37. > :21:41.Barry Hawkins did not really give Thepchaiya a lot of chances. I spoke

:21:42. > :21:44.to him as he came past the studio, Thepchaiya, and heeded not feel he

:21:45. > :21:49.had many chances and this is what happens when top players are at

:21:50. > :21:54.their best, they can keep you off the table. For me, it is a disaster,

:21:55. > :21:58.I hate when two of my players play net is to each other because I

:21:59. > :22:03.cannot have two in the next round. I'm guaranteed a winner but I'm

:22:04. > :22:07.guaranteed a loser and I do not like that. What do you do in that

:22:08. > :22:11.situation, give each of them exactly the same amount of coaching time?

:22:12. > :22:16.Not really, it depends who dropped the most money on the floor and I

:22:17. > :22:23.pick it up! No, I share my time with them and I do whatever I can. I pick

:22:24. > :22:27.the balls up and I have a chat with them and I never talk about the

:22:28. > :22:31.other player. It is looking good for Barry with all the top seeds falling

:22:32. > :22:35.by the wayside, he must think he has a chance this year. Well, everybody

:22:36. > :22:40.has got a chance. Don't underestimate the players still in,

:22:41. > :22:43.top seeds have gone out and there are a lot of good players still in

:22:44. > :22:47.the tournament, including Barry Hawkins who is looking for a

:22:48. > :22:52.back-to-back win in ranking events for the first time and that would be

:22:53. > :22:56.very special for him. Also still in the tournament, world number four

:22:57. > :23:02.Judd Trump, back in action this afternoon against our local hero,

:23:03. > :23:07.the 15-year-old Welsh wild card from Ebbw Vale, Jackson Page. What a

:23:08. > :23:10.match for him, and this is the head-to-head, there are no

:23:11. > :23:13.statistics for Jackson, he's playing in his first major senior tournament

:23:14. > :23:20.at the age of 15 after making it this far. Trump, fourth in the

:23:21. > :23:26.world, six ranking titles and he got to the semifinal in 2013. It is

:23:27. > :23:31.going to be such a special afternoon for Jackson Page, playing one of his

:23:32. > :23:34.Boyhood heroes, Judd Trump, let's find out more about the youngster

:23:35. > :23:42.from Ebbw Vale. Who is Jackson Page? 15, from Ebbw

:23:43. > :23:49.Vale. A small village, town, whatever you call it. Yes, I go to

:23:50. > :23:56.score, I go to the snooker hall, home, food, sleep! Should you not be

:23:57. > :24:02.in score? Yes. Yes, this week. I have taken time off. They have

:24:03. > :24:05.changed the half term date and last year, it would have been fine

:24:06. > :24:08.because it was half term but half term is next week so even better for

:24:09. > :24:12.me! What is it like as a young snooker

:24:13. > :24:17.player coming through the ranks? Yes, it is great. Especially doing

:24:18. > :24:22.well. Hopefully, I can go further now. Do well and over the moon, it

:24:23. > :24:28.feels great. Great experience as well to win, it is unreal, it is

:24:29. > :24:34.great. People would second-guess your age.

:24:35. > :24:38.Yes, well I had a tournament in Ireland two years ago and I had to

:24:39. > :24:44.take my passport because they were not convinced I was in the under 14

:24:45. > :24:51.team. They did not believe me. I probably had a moustache at about

:24:52. > :24:58.11, 12, and a beard at 13, 14. Yes! Who do you base your game on?

:24:59. > :25:05.Definitely Ronnie, I would say. The way I play is more towards runny.

:25:06. > :25:11.Fast, fire, attacking. -- Ronnie. What are your dreams in

:25:12. > :25:17.snooker, where'd you see yourself? Probably everybody's dream, do as

:25:18. > :25:22.much in the game as possible, when World Championships in number of

:25:23. > :25:27.times hopefully, world number one. Everything really. Away from the

:25:28. > :25:31.table, what you like doing? Apart from score and snooker, there

:25:32. > :25:34.are not much of the things I do really. I beat quite a what's, that

:25:35. > :25:43.is one thing. What about the money, do you get to

:25:44. > :25:46.keep that? -- I have a lot to beat. In snooker, you do, not things like

:25:47. > :25:56.golf. Do you have a nickname?

:25:57. > :26:02.Well, in Welsh, they call me teen wolf. I cannot have that for very

:26:03. > :26:08.long when I my 20s. When I was in Belgium, they called me the rampage

:26:09. > :26:14.or something, Jackson rampage. I did not get that one. They made up one

:26:15. > :26:21.and they called me action Jackson Page and that is what everybody is

:26:22. > :26:22.calling me so I suppose that is the one.

:26:23. > :26:29.Cheers, Jackson. Thanks, Jackson. I do think we confused Terry in the

:26:30. > :26:34.studio, that is called having a word with yourself! It almost sounds

:26:35. > :26:39.patronising when you say this lad is still at score and he cannot drive

:26:40. > :26:43.yet. But that is the reality. One minute, you revise for your GCSEs

:26:44. > :26:46.and the next you face Judd Trump in a major ranking tournament are

:26:47. > :26:51.extraordinary. It is wonderful the Association

:26:52. > :26:55.allowed the amateurs to comment, the English and Scottish on Northern

:26:56. > :26:58.Ireland event and they gave wild cards to the amateur association, it

:26:59. > :27:04.gives people the chance to fulfil a dream. And boys like himself, in

:27:05. > :27:11.here, he probably thinks, I will see what I can do, but he has won two

:27:12. > :27:15.events, two matches and events on the senior circuit in Wales in the

:27:16. > :27:20.amateur association where we all started. I watched him play a couple

:27:21. > :27:26.of times, he's very entertaining, I have got to see that. You can see

:27:27. > :27:31.that. He plays in Mark Williams's club, he goes for everything. There

:27:32. > :27:35.will be out in a second, so can he possibly beat Judd Trump? What a

:27:36. > :27:39.huge afternoon for him. He's not going to be favoured, that is for

:27:40. > :27:44.sure, but I hope he will play OK and give him a fright. Who knows, Lee

:27:45. > :27:49.Walker did it yesterday, Michael White, Dominick is still in, we

:27:50. > :27:53.could have another! You cannot coach player to play in this situation,

:27:54. > :27:58.under the lights, the TV. I think he enjoys it, he did a nice interview

:27:59. > :28:03.and he looks comfortable playing, I watched his games and he knocks them

:28:04. > :28:08.in like Cliff Wilson used to be. A great grip. Here he comes, this big

:28:09. > :28:14.moment for him, a fairy tale for Jackson Page continues. Two scalps

:28:15. > :28:17.already, can he get the biggest of them all? It would be one of the

:28:18. > :28:23.biggest shocks in this tournament is's history if he did, it is

:28:24. > :28:27.Jackson Page against Judd Trump. Let's join Darren Walker and Cliff

:28:28. > :28:34.Thorburn. Good afternoon, everybody, what an

:28:35. > :28:40.intriguing match in prospect. 15-year-old Jackson Page. Action

:28:41. > :28:46.Jackson as we should be calling him now. About to shake hands with the

:28:47. > :28:50.man he first watched playing Ronnie O'Sullivan in Newport in the Welsh

:28:51. > :28:55.Open a couple of years ago. And here he's before his 16th birthday taking

:28:56. > :29:00.his place in the last 32 of the Welsh Open against the world number

:29:01. > :29:08.four. And six time ranking event winner. And he still looks as though

:29:09. > :29:11.he hasn't got a care in the world! The names on the monitors still

:29:12. > :29:24.reflecting their previous players, Barry Hawkins and Thepchaiya

:29:25. > :29:29.Un-Nooh. Just a quick flick. A little change of the wire backstage,

:29:30. > :29:34.and still, Jackson standing at the table very calm and very composed.

:29:35. > :29:37.What a story, he has been everywhere. BBC Breakfast News, on

:29:38. > :29:44.the websites, put his name into Google. He's a hot topic of

:29:45. > :29:52.conversation this week. The young lad from Ebbw Vale.

:29:53. > :30:02.Yes, I could not agree more with you! He will have enough time of

:30:03. > :30:09.next week, an official half term, it has come a little early for Jackson

:30:10. > :30:18.Page. This is going to be a big ask. This young man. But he has nothing

:30:19. > :30:26.to lose, he has everything to gain, once he gets going he is a terrific

:30:27. > :30:39.potter. And hopefully we will see some of that now in this match this

:30:40. > :30:49.afternoon. Judd said he was looking forward to this match last night. He

:30:50. > :30:53.was taken quite deep in the match against Alex Borg and in the first

:30:54. > :30:57.press conference he said, I can remember what it was like to come

:30:58. > :31:01.onto the circuit aged 15 or 16 with a big sense of expectation from

:31:02. > :31:06.everyone who had been watching me since I scored a century at the age

:31:07. > :31:10.of nine and ten. He said, I am really looking forward to it and it

:31:11. > :31:19.will be novel to be almost double the age of my opponent! Jackson 15,

:31:20. > :31:24.Judd Trump, 27. Here we go. His first appearance in the last 32 of a

:31:25. > :31:48.ranking event at the age of just 15. Yes, you can just imagine there must

:31:49. > :31:52.be butterflies flying around. I commentated on Judd last night and

:31:53. > :31:57.when I say butterflies of course I mean Jackson Page, not Judd Trump!

:31:58. > :32:02.Although he will have nerves about him early in this match. He's got

:32:03. > :32:10.everything to lose, Judd Trump, Jackson has everything to gain. I

:32:11. > :32:14.think Judd Trump will be the first to agree it was not his best

:32:15. > :32:28.performance and Alex did ask certain questions. You can see with young

:32:29. > :32:33.Jackson that he likes to attack. But he has given Judd a chance in the

:32:34. > :32:43.corner. Doesn't need to do much with the cue ball. Just taking the pace

:32:44. > :32:51.off the cue ball, drops it in, it is nicely on the black. Really

:32:52. > :32:55.important for young Jackson not to give too many early chances to Judd

:32:56. > :33:18.to get into his flow. A lot of people eagerly anticipating

:33:19. > :33:22.this much because of how unusual the story is and Trump just as he did

:33:23. > :33:29.last night against Alex Borg wasting no time in splitting the pack.

:33:30. > :33:34.Plenty of live snooker going on this afternoon across this section of the

:33:35. > :33:39.Motorpoint Arena, almost everyone crowded town this end of the arena.

:33:40. > :33:49.Trying to get a glimpse of the man who could be the start of the

:33:50. > :33:53.future. Hiding among that lot somewhere is to time Welsh champion

:33:54. > :34:01.Mark Williams, who has done a bit of practice with Jackson. -- 2- time

:34:02. > :34:06.Welsh champion. Apparently he wants to clarify that he has been

:34:07. > :34:11.misquoted, many people claimed that Mark Williams said, Jackson is as

:34:12. > :34:15.good as I was at that age. I spoke to him about an hour ago in the

:34:16. > :34:22.president and he said, I did not say that, it is not my place to judge,

:34:23. > :34:26.how can I, it was subjective. And I did say he is very good and he could

:34:27. > :34:32.be the real deal. Would you agree with that assessment Darren?

:34:33. > :34:42.Definitely, Jackson has been ruling the roost in the junior events in

:34:43. > :34:46.Wales. He went to the World Championships and said in his

:34:47. > :34:51.pre-match interview but he has 12 senior events this year so he has

:34:52. > :34:57.all the tools and he is very likeable, he has a terrific family

:34:58. > :35:03.and parents and I'm sure he's got a massive, bright future ahead. If

:35:04. > :35:21.Mark says that he is the real deal, you can rest assured he is.

:35:22. > :35:27.No room for sentiment from Judd Trump, added a sixth ranking title

:35:28. > :35:31.to his collection earlier this season, winning the European

:35:32. > :35:36.Masters, runner-up at the English open but by his high standards and

:35:37. > :35:41.has not been a sparkling last couple of months for Trump and he will be

:35:42. > :35:45.aware of just how many big names falling foul of the giant-killing

:35:46. > :35:50.exploits of some of the lower ranked players here in Wales. So I am sure

:35:51. > :35:55.he will be supportive of Jackson and will chat with him at the end of the

:35:56. > :35:59.match should he win but he has his eye on this major prize and he wants

:36:00. > :36:08.to turn six ranking titles into seven. Rest assured Judd will want

:36:09. > :36:12.to give Jackson a real thumping this afternoon. He knows that Jackson

:36:13. > :36:17.will be one of his competitors later in the next couple of years, he'll

:36:18. > :36:21.want to send a message and he'll want to put it out there today and

:36:22. > :36:30.give Jackson something to remember him for. I can remember Jackson

:36:31. > :36:35.first started playing at our club, the red triangle in Cross Keys when

:36:36. > :36:44.he was about nine and he played their for five or so years before he

:36:45. > :36:48.moved up the market into a club in Tredegar. He's always been a talent

:36:49. > :36:50.and the improvement he has made, giant strides, a lot of good

:36:51. > :37:01.youngsters in Wales coming along which is good. Then tie the recent

:37:02. > :37:09.played here as a wild card and another young lad named Dylan Emery.

:37:10. > :37:14.And Carol Matthews, a nine-year-old called Liam Davis looks like he

:37:15. > :37:29.could have a massive future as well. It's looking good, Welsh snooker.

:37:30. > :37:38.Although he hasn't had much of a role to play in this match yet

:37:39. > :37:42.Jackson Page has advanced in this 32, user validation of the wild card

:37:43. > :37:53.policy. There is the first mistake from Judd Possibly an opening here,

:37:54. > :37:57.breaking down 61. The former UK champion and World Championship

:37:58. > :38:01.runner-up. The Chinese use wild cards in some of their ranking

:38:02. > :38:12.events to give an early outing to future stars and it seems to have

:38:13. > :38:19.worked for Jackson. A bit unlucky, there to cover the black. But it

:38:20. > :38:23.will be important if he can to get a few minutes on the table, just to

:38:24. > :38:29.put a little break together and settle down. That red travelling

:38:30. > :38:40.down the table has really limited his options. How about that, Darren?

:38:41. > :38:51.Superb composure. In the biggest match of his life. Maybe it should

:38:52. > :38:56.be catcher fearless Jackson, not Action Jackson -- maybe it should be

:38:57. > :39:05.Fearless Jackson! He's going to take another great pot. He potted a

:39:06. > :39:21.harder blue then, he came across the red and hit it dead straight. It it

:39:22. > :39:28.dead straight. This frame is still not over yet for young Jackson. That

:39:29. > :39:34.was not the best position shot that Trump has ever played. He is on this

:39:35. > :39:42.blue. We might see him play this and go in between the green and the

:39:43. > :39:59.corner pocket. He played that deep, is it going in off?

:40:00. > :40:08.He was forced to work quite hard late last night to get over the line

:40:09. > :40:21.against the spirited performance of the 47-year-old player from Malta,

:40:22. > :40:26.Alex Borg. So Jackson, almost at a stage of requiring snookers and he

:40:27. > :40:32.will be if this black goes in. A glimmer of hope in this frame. It

:40:33. > :40:40.would be nice if he could replicate the accuracy that he showed with

:40:41. > :40:43.that long blue. And so barring snookers this will be the end of the

:40:44. > :41:19.first frame for young Jackson Page. Keeping his hopes alive in this

:41:20. > :41:23.first frame. Three reds, three blacks, one snooker, 14 point

:41:24. > :41:34.penalty and he could pinch this frame. A long way to go before he is

:41:35. > :41:39.that this is dashed at that stage. - at that stage. Going for the double

:41:40. > :41:54.against Judd Trump! Not afraid to have a crack. Some of Judd's long

:41:55. > :42:00.pots last night was superb, as well. Kim Jong-un they were superb. First

:42:01. > :42:08.blood to the favourite. -- they were superb.

:42:09. > :42:15.But he does seem very composed, Jackson. We have seen quite a few

:42:16. > :42:19.scenarios this week at the Welsh Open web players have gone back to

:42:20. > :42:23.their seats shaking their heads and being quite negative in terms of

:42:24. > :42:29.their body language come he isn't giving much away here, Jackson.

:42:30. > :42:47.Hopefully he is enjoying the experience. He's coming back to get

:42:48. > :42:56.a feel for the table. And that is it. His first frame in the last 32

:42:57. > :43:01.is a losing one, Judd is up and running in style but not too many

:43:02. > :43:07.signs of nerves from Jackson. STUDIO: He looks at ease, Jackson

:43:08. > :43:11.Page come out in the arena, even trailing 0- one against Trump. We'll

:43:12. > :43:17.talk about that in a moment, let's update you on what's been going on

:43:18. > :43:20.on table two. One of the other big shocks of the tournament involved

:43:21. > :43:26.Lee Walker from Newport, another Welsh player left in the tournament,

:43:27. > :43:31.that stunning comeback win over Neil Robertson yesterday. He's playing

:43:32. > :43:36.Graeme Dott in round three today. This is the end of frame three. We

:43:37. > :43:41.will see in a few seconds Graeme Dott winning this one to take the

:43:42. > :43:45.lead, 2-1, although Lee Walker still hopes to continue his journey in the

:43:46. > :43:52.Welsh Open this year. Terry, with Jackson aged 15 Lee at the other end

:43:53. > :43:58.of the spectrum, at 41, still life in him, still capable of winning

:43:59. > :44:02.tournaments? I don't think Lee is a major tournament winner at the

:44:03. > :44:05.moment. At that age it is not so easy to push forward. He is

:44:06. > :44:12.improving his game, though, which is all you can do. What a contrast

:44:13. > :44:16.between Lee's style and Jackson's style, Jackson is a typical young

:44:17. > :44:21.lad, sees a ball, he will not get in. He doesn't really think, shall I

:44:22. > :44:27.play safety. Let's show you another of the Welsh players was left in the

:44:28. > :44:33.tournament, Dominic Dale, part of our commentary team on coverage of

:44:34. > :44:39.the Welsh Open. His adventure is over, he has lost 4-1 just a short

:44:40. > :44:53.while ago. Dominic is out of the tournament this year.

:44:54. > :45:02.But Jackson Page looks so comfortable at the moment. Yes, he

:45:03. > :45:09.is very confident. He is the second best seed left in, he will get

:45:10. > :45:13.punished for his mistakes, more than you would in the first couple of

:45:14. > :45:20.rounds but it's just a wonderful experience for him anyway. Back in,

:45:21. > :45:30.with Trump leading, 1-0. COMMENTATOR: As Terry says, it is a

:45:31. > :45:39.win- win situation for Jackson, which ever way you look at it. This

:45:40. > :45:48.will be beyond his wildest dreams, coming here this week. This thread

:45:49. > :45:55.will be close to the corner pocket. He could have done with that just

:45:56. > :46:00.falling in. He's going to have to sit now and wait. I'm sure he'll get

:46:01. > :46:09.a couple of opportunities within this match to show us how well he

:46:10. > :46:20.can play, how exciting, as a young player.

:46:21. > :46:33.Trump, one of the classiest players on the circuit. Completely different

:46:34. > :46:39.opposition to the ones Jackson played in the first two grounds, not

:46:40. > :46:43.to take anything away from him. Obviously the further you go into

:46:44. > :46:45.the tournament, the classier the opposition becomes and the harder it

:46:46. > :47:04.gets. A couple of century breaks for

:47:05. > :47:17.Trump. His first round win was over Andrew Higginson, 102 and 140.

:47:18. > :47:25.Beginning to open up, the best break we sought from Judd against Alex

:47:26. > :47:37.Bork was... But he has looked good in the first two brands here.

:47:38. > :47:41.Jackson has done it the hard way, 24-3 thrillers, in the first round

:47:42. > :47:54.against Jason Weston he got through on a re-spotted black.

:47:55. > :48:00.He was expected to beat Jason, he had a chance against John Astley, he

:48:01. > :48:11.wasn't certain that he would beat his second-round opponent. Judd

:48:12. > :48:20.laying on a bit of a demonstration for his young rival. He will

:48:21. > :48:28.certainly remember what it is like to appear at a ranking event at such

:48:29. > :48:31.a tender age when there is so much expectation and excitement, like

:48:32. > :48:47.there was a bad Trump when he was Jackson's H.

:48:48. > :49:19.This is clinical, so far, from Judd Trump.

:49:20. > :49:29.He is looking much stronger this afternoon then he did last night. I

:49:30. > :49:33.must be fair, Alex Borg potted some unbelievable balls against Judd.

:49:34. > :49:40.Talking to Judd later he could not believe the reds that he put it in.

:49:41. > :49:48.If Alex had scored the match could have been so different. He looks

:49:49. > :49:59.right on his game now. Totally in the zone. Totally focused. 110%

:50:00. > :50:41.concentration. Looking very good indeed.

:50:42. > :50:46.So, barring snookers this second frame belongs to Judd Trump and in

:50:47. > :51:05.some emphatic style. From the perspective of a neutral

:51:06. > :51:09.you just hope that Jackson does get some table time and an opportunity

:51:10. > :51:18.to show people why he deserves his place in the last 32. He will be

:51:19. > :51:22.picking up and check if he loses the match, and check for three and a

:51:23. > :51:27.half thousand pounds which is more than Judd Trump won in his entire

:51:28. > :51:38.first season as a professional, if you look at the stats.

:51:39. > :51:46.Judd won 3350. He has since amassed over ?2.5 million in prize money and

:51:47. > :51:58.there should be more where that came from the 27-year-old.

:51:59. > :52:51.It is not to be a century but it is a marker of what Jackson Page should

:52:52. > :52:59.be aiming for in the future, Judd Trump doubles as advantage. --

:53:00. > :53:04.doubles his advantage. At the moment, it's chocolate, I can't stop

:53:05. > :53:09.eating chocolate! Two. Leonardo DiCaprio is a great actor and also

:53:10. > :53:15.Ben Affleck alike. There was a time in a local league game where I beat

:53:16. > :53:23.someone, he must have been about 14 and I was six or seven. He ended up

:53:24. > :53:25.snapping his cue after I beat him, I never forget that. Quite patient, I

:53:26. > :53:36.think and quite relaxed. Quite a bad loser. It does take me a

:53:37. > :53:49.while to get over some losses, it takes me a day or two. Maybe David

:53:50. > :53:56.Beckham possibly, all Floyd Mayweather Jr would be intimidated,

:53:57. > :54:02.and the best driver in the world, I think! I haven't paid much attention

:54:03. > :54:06.to the past, I would like to go forward 50 years and see what's

:54:07. > :54:07.happening them. Probably by the beach in Los Angeles and then out

:54:08. > :54:30.with friends that night. COMMENTATOR: Imagine causing a

:54:31. > :54:35.14-year-old player to snap his cue in frustration after losing to a

:54:36. > :54:39.six-year old. I don't think he would be doing the same if somehow Jackson

:54:40. > :54:49.produced one of the most remarkable comebacks in snooker history.

:54:50. > :55:03.Hopefully Jackson will get a chance to show us himself in action. The

:55:04. > :55:10.winner of that will get a guaranteed to a card so it's not just about

:55:11. > :55:15.what happens today. It is about - he is approaching some key moments in

:55:16. > :55:18.his career, Jackson Page as he begins to think about life as a

:55:19. > :55:39.professional. So far, he's altered the fairy tale

:55:40. > :55:42.of the 15-year-old, and, Darren, presumably, even though Jackson

:55:43. > :55:48.apparently is very good and very bright in school, is it the right

:55:49. > :55:54.move for him to turn professional as early as possible, bearing in mind

:55:55. > :56:04.how competitive the sport is now? Obviously as a parent myself I would

:56:05. > :56:07.say probably not. If he was to win his professional ticket this year I

:56:08. > :56:12.would say it would be a mistake to take it just yet. That's my personal

:56:13. > :56:17.thing, as he has just slammed in a red then the question as if it was

:56:18. > :56:22.over the pocket! But he's a young man, and at the end of the day his

:56:23. > :56:28.family and friends will give him all the right advice that he needs. It

:56:29. > :56:33.is just that it is a brutal game out there, it's different coming into

:56:34. > :56:37.this tournament as a wild he has won a couple of matches, fantastic,

:56:38. > :56:41.suddenly he will be up and down the motorway, on flights all the time,

:56:42. > :56:47.away from home, it's a big thing for everyone never mind a 15-year-old. I

:56:48. > :56:53.would probably say if I was in his corner, yes, the experience is

:56:54. > :56:59.great, I don't think he's ready for the professional game yet. Not for

:57:00. > :57:15.time anyway. -- not full time anyway.

:57:16. > :57:27.He has called a foul on himself, which has disturbed that shot. That

:57:28. > :57:37.was his first real opportunity in the match and he will be

:57:38. > :57:47.disappointed. And what is worse, Judd has knocked that read in! Just

:57:48. > :57:55.as his cue was going in he has caught the red. No one else probably

:57:56. > :58:02.saw that foul. That tells you how much of a sportsman he is. Owning up

:58:03. > :58:09.straight without hesitation, and probably the biggest day of his

:58:10. > :58:50.life. -- on probably the biggest day of his life.

:58:51. > :58:57.One thing is for certain, whatever Jackson Page goes on to achieve in

:58:58. > :59:00.the future, and hopefully it will be great things, he will never, ever

:59:01. > :59:36.forget this week in Cardiff. That is such a hard shot, such a

:59:37. > :59:42.drop. Got to stay perfectly still, deliver that cue in a straight line.

:59:43. > :59:58.This has been faultless snooker from Judd Trump. In total control at the

:59:59. > :00:04.moment for everything he is doing. And obviously this will be a relief

:00:05. > :00:08.to Jed because last night it went on late, commentated on that match and

:00:09. > :00:12.he went on at something like 20 past nine because it is very late for any

:00:13. > :00:17.kind of a professional snooker match and they finished round about 12

:00:18. > :00:24.o'clock. He is back in our early this afternoon another round. --

:00:25. > :00:30.he's back in here. So they have probably had a good night's sleep

:00:31. > :00:32.but it was a very late finish. Doesn't seem to have affected his

:00:33. > :01:04.play in any shape or form. I think we will all pretty tired

:01:05. > :01:12.last night, not least of which Judd Trump. But once again, Jackson not

:01:13. > :01:22.quite producing what he did in the first two rounds, but a bit of a

:01:23. > :01:28.let-off. The crowd here would love to see Jackson Page just produce a

:01:29. > :01:38.little break, maybe something towards the 61. That he so

:01:39. > :01:49.impressively produced against John Astley. And he has given glimpses.

:01:50. > :01:55.Quebec red, of how nicely he strikes the cue ball -- with that red. Out

:01:56. > :02:00.of position here, but what an occasion! I wonder if his classmates

:02:01. > :02:03.have been allowed an hour off to watch. You to fully played with the

:02:04. > :02:27.black and he made it difficult for himself. This is more like it.

:02:28. > :02:32.Reminiscent of the inspired form that Alex Borg produced against Judd

:02:33. > :02:40.Trump in the early stages last night. What a shame! Looked like he

:02:41. > :02:44.was just beginning to get going. Beautiful black, the middle left. He

:02:45. > :03:04.could not keep it going with the pink.

:03:05. > :03:13.And the problem for Jackson Page in this match, he has only had little

:03:14. > :03:22.snippets. He has not got in tidy, in amongst the balls. His pot success

:03:23. > :03:26.is 62%, it is a little bit low. But then a couple of shots he has had to

:03:27. > :03:34.go for have been difficult and that counts against the pot statistics.

:03:35. > :03:47.Judd Trump has played very, very well. So this red. No problem for

:03:48. > :03:54.the red. That means Jackson now is going to need snookers to have any

:03:55. > :04:01.chance in this frame. So it looks like Judd Trump is going to extend

:04:02. > :04:12.his lead now to 3-0. Four left and that young man is going to have to

:04:13. > :04:20.win them all. He only wants one snooker so it is worth carrying on.

:04:21. > :04:23.A lot of frames over the last two players have required snookers.

:04:24. > :04:48.There's always a chance. He has been pretty sharp, Judd

:04:49. > :04:53.Trump. This has been a demonstration of excellence. The rest of the

:04:54. > :05:00.professionals still in this field, but also for Jackson Page, every

:05:01. > :05:08.time he has made a mistake, the world number four has punished him

:05:09. > :05:14.for it. He wasn't expected to win this match, of course. But everyone

:05:15. > :05:18.will be hoping that he gets an opportunity just to put a little bit

:05:19. > :05:20.of a break together in what could be the last frame of the match. Because

:05:21. > :05:39.this one is all but over. There's his brand of naughty

:05:40. > :05:58.snooker. He's absolutely hammering the cue

:05:59. > :06:05.ball here! Judd Trump's turned to enjoy himself here on the big stage.

:06:06. > :06:10.Totally in control here, it does not matter about the blue. Judd Trump is

:06:11. > :06:23.now one away from the victory. Yes, Judd Trump cruising and that is

:06:24. > :06:26.why he's regarded as one of the most entertaining and flamboyant

:06:27. > :06:32.characters in a game. But with that in a moment. Back to table two, just

:06:33. > :06:38.for a couple of seconds, keeping a close eye on how the other Welshmen

:06:39. > :06:41.in action Lee Walker is getting on. Yesterday, a good come back win over

:06:42. > :06:48.Neil Robertson when he was 3-1 down at one point, beating Robertson. And

:06:49. > :06:54.he's 2-1 down in this frame, but he's going to take the frame to make

:06:55. > :06:59.it 2-2. Terry, doing well against Graeme Dott, the former world

:07:00. > :07:04.champion. Great tournament. Yes, tough match, for both of them. They

:07:05. > :07:15.both grind out hard, and union all the time. But doing doing well. No

:07:16. > :07:20.points on the board so far for Dott, so 2-2 between Dott and Walker. We

:07:21. > :07:26.will keep a close eye on that. Is there anything that Jackson Page can

:07:27. > :07:30.do to get himself back into this game, to rescue this? A little bit

:07:31. > :07:34.unlucky, he filed with the ball when he had a chance and he missed the

:07:35. > :07:40.pink off the spot and he will be disappointed because he normally

:07:41. > :07:44.gets ten out of ten. You can see the frustration as he steps away from

:07:45. > :07:51.the table. Has it caught up with him? He's not having a lot of

:07:52. > :07:55.chances and he's a bit quick. But it is experience for him. What advice

:07:56. > :08:02.would you have as a coach for him as he goes into this next frame and

:08:03. > :08:08.Trump could take the match? At his age, let him do what he's doing

:08:09. > :08:12.until he asks for some help. Is that the tactic? You would not mess about

:08:13. > :08:19.with him, he's very talented, very natural, better to give him advice

:08:20. > :08:25.verbally, how to play the game. And his manners out there all these

:08:26. > :08:31.things. Don't him going for pots. Hard to stop Trump in this form. It

:08:32. > :08:38.is hard to stop Trump at any time, when he's on good form! Judd Trump

:08:39. > :08:41.is leading here handsomely by 3-0. So let's go back into the arena and

:08:42. > :08:56.rejoin Rob and Darren. Yes, I agree with Terry. He's a real

:08:57. > :09:05.natural talent, Jackson Page. It is best just to leave him alone and let

:09:06. > :09:11.him realise that potential. So it is pot breaking off. And the frame that

:09:12. > :09:36.he needs, and that is not the best. No damage done.

:09:37. > :09:48.A mature shot from Jackson. Well, Mark Williams, the double world

:09:49. > :09:55.champion, it is watching somewhere. He has done a good job of hiding. He

:09:56. > :10:00.answered the text message case sent him and he said, it is simple,

:10:01. > :10:06.Jackson is getting outplayed which we would expect. He's bound to be a

:10:07. > :10:14.nervous wreck, we have got to remember, he's only 15. So, Mark

:10:15. > :10:22.Williams. Offering some common sense from the stands somewhere. Hiding.

:10:23. > :10:29.He said he knows Jackson has a good temperament because he has been

:10:30. > :10:33.ribbing him at the club. You get the feeling, Darren, there will be a lot

:10:34. > :10:38.of support for the young man whichever decision he makes. Whether

:10:39. > :10:41.he decides to go professional right away or in another couple of years,

:10:42. > :10:45.there's a sense that his talent will be nurtured in Wales in the right

:10:46. > :10:50.way to help him make the right progress, at the right time. Well,

:10:51. > :10:57.yes, and no better to have in his corner than Mark Williams. Probably

:10:58. > :11:04.he has been if not the best Welsh player we have ever had. The only

:11:05. > :11:09.one to rival that is rewritten. And Mark has done it in the modern-day

:11:10. > :11:13.game -- to rival that Israeli Riordan. He's at his club and he

:11:14. > :11:19.will give him the right advice and he will help him wherever he can.

:11:20. > :11:24.The rest, unfortunately, is down to young Jackson. Once you get out

:11:25. > :11:46.there, no matter how much help you get, you are on your own.

:11:47. > :11:54.The reds may be nicely spread down the table, but it is an awkward

:11:55. > :12:02.position from which to show his skills here in what could be the

:12:03. > :12:06.last frame. And that is the first time we have seen a little bit of

:12:07. > :12:11.negative body language, just a little slump of the shoulders as he

:12:12. > :12:15.headed back to his chair. Maybe just a little bit frustrated that he has

:12:16. > :12:24.not shown is what he did against just -- Jason Weston in the first

:12:25. > :12:32.round. And John Astley in the second.

:12:33. > :12:40.Well, the cue ball is awkward. But is this your best chance, Jackson,

:12:41. > :12:43.to show others what you have got before you turned 16, against one of

:12:44. > :13:23.the world's best? You could hear the collective

:13:24. > :13:30.sighing here in the Motorpoint Arena. Neutrals willing him to get a

:13:31. > :14:20.frame on the board but Judd is back in again and the reds well spread.

:14:21. > :14:31.If this next shot was to go right, which it has come can't help feeling

:14:32. > :14:39.that maybe Jackson Page just played his last shot in this year's Welsh

:14:40. > :14:46.Open. Has not been the fairy tale that he would have been hoping for

:14:47. > :14:54.today, in his first TV match. He can take a lot of heart from it, he has

:14:55. > :14:59.come here as a 15-year-old. Won two great matches. He has had a lot of

:15:00. > :15:11.exposure, TV coverage and press coverage. I'm sure when he gets back

:15:12. > :15:18.to him -- class, they will make a real force of him. Having said that,

:15:19. > :15:27.Judd Trump has just overscrewed that cue ball. He has got a red to the

:15:28. > :15:37.centre. So maybe there's another chance. In this frame. One into the

:15:38. > :15:44.left-centre is real thin and I don't know if he can get the pot at that

:15:45. > :15:51.angle. I think he's going to can in it, this is thin. It is that thin,

:15:52. > :16:19.he did not even go for it. Still in with a shout, young Jackson.

:16:20. > :16:35.Not meant to be his day-to-day, is it? Yes, I think the latter shot he

:16:36. > :16:40.played was a little bit of inexperience, even if he made the

:16:41. > :16:45.pot, he was not on a colour. A little bit of frustration. I just

:16:46. > :16:50.think he has got to look at all the positives of this. And one thing is

:16:51. > :16:56.for sure, he has got a fantastic future. Well, he has got another

:16:57. > :16:59.chance and all of a sudden, Judd Trump has had a couple of

:17:00. > :17:05.opportunities in this frame and he has not taken them. The first three

:17:06. > :17:08.frames were like a masterclass. Jackson just needs to convert one of

:17:09. > :17:14.these chances and try and get a frame on the board. And who knows?

:17:15. > :17:17.We saw that last night with Mark Davis, it looked like he was dead

:17:18. > :17:25.and out and Ronnie O'Sullivan was going to win 4-1, and it was 4-1 and

:17:26. > :17:30.he ended up losing 4-3. It is never over until the final balls have been

:17:31. > :17:35.potted. You have just got to keep positive. This is the first time he

:17:36. > :17:47.has been in and amongst and around the blacks and the reds. As I said

:17:48. > :17:52.that, he has just lost the cue ball again and instead of this being a

:17:53. > :17:57.straightforward red, either the one below the pink or the right of the

:17:58. > :18:05.black, both reds have become now very difficult. But no problem, he's

:18:06. > :18:58.back in a good position. He made that looked very easy.

:18:59. > :19:06.He just needs that blue to stop so he can get it to the corner pocket,

:19:07. > :19:11.which has travelled and the brown is blocked by the red. Action Jackson

:19:12. > :19:24.all of a sudden is starting to take off. It was a real good shot that

:19:25. > :19:25.last red he potted. Just did not know whether cue ball would be

:19:26. > :19:44.going. Back in the frame, though. A really

:19:45. > :19:47.warm applause for the teenager, only 29. But a taster of what he's

:19:48. > :20:37.capable of. That is a real clever shot. Judd

:20:38. > :20:43.knew that as long as he got the cue ball close to the yellow and the red

:20:44. > :20:47.close to the corner pocket, if you missed it there was a good chance he

:20:48. > :20:55.would cover it and he would not be leaving any other shot for Jackson.

:20:56. > :21:00.He has played it. A little swerve. That was much trickier than how he

:21:01. > :21:02.made it look. He's starting to game a little more confidence, young

:21:03. > :21:59.Jackson. What a shame. For the young man from

:22:00. > :22:04.Ebbw Vale. He has done really well to put himself in a position in this

:22:05. > :22:06.frame and for the first time, a little shake off the head from the

:22:07. > :22:25.chair. He will be hoping that he's going to

:22:26. > :22:32.get another opportunity. This is the most important shots now. As far as

:22:33. > :22:38.Jackson is concerned, if Judd Trump gets on this yellow from the blue, I

:22:39. > :22:44.think he has played for the medal pocket and landed on it for the

:22:45. > :22:52.corner so good shot needed, but if it goes in, we know he's going to be

:22:53. > :22:53.on the green. Into the middle of the pocket, perfectly on the green. This

:22:54. > :23:04.could be it. REFEREE: Can we get that phone off,

:23:05. > :23:35.please? A great occasion here and it was all

:23:36. > :23:43.teed up for Jackson Page and it wasn't meant to be a winner. A real

:23:44. > :23:48.exhibition shot from Judd Trump. Jackson Page has had his first taste

:23:49. > :23:52.of life in the snooker spotlight and hopefully there will be many more to

:23:53. > :23:58.come, it just was not quite destined to be today. The class of Judd Trump

:23:59. > :23:59.showed, the world number four, a straightforward victory and he goes

:24:00. > :24:08.through to the last Unforgettable week for Jackson Page

:24:09. > :24:12.that he will never forget and he may go on to have a lot of success in

:24:13. > :24:16.the game but a game too far for the teenager. We will speed the Judd

:24:17. > :24:22.Trump shortly, he's on his way up, the winner. You always felt it would

:24:23. > :24:27.be a difficult challenge for Jackson to continue this stream today. Yes,

:24:28. > :24:34.it was a step too far and the draw did not go well for him -- continue

:24:35. > :24:37.his dream. He said it was his favourite player, Trump, and that

:24:38. > :24:43.would put more on him. He did not settle down out there. It is

:24:44. > :24:49.expected like you said on the TV, he's 15 and he will be nervous

:24:50. > :24:53.playing against Judd. A bit starstruck? I would not say

:24:54. > :24:58.starstruck, it is the whole thing, not just playing Trump. It is at the

:24:59. > :25:03.stage of the tournament and it is on the television, table one, he's

:25:04. > :25:06.exposed. I guess they he was enjoying himself waiting to go out

:25:07. > :25:12.and making an effort to beat the Judd Trump. But he did not make his

:25:13. > :25:18.chances like he did in the last two matches that he had. In those, he

:25:19. > :25:24.played quite well. Let's hear from Jackson Page with Rob Walker.

:25:25. > :25:28.Jackson, I guess the most important question is, did you manage to enjoy

:25:29. > :25:35.it all back? Yes, definitely enjoyed it. Playing somebody like Judd, you

:25:36. > :25:40.don't get many chances and under the pressure and in the lights and the

:25:41. > :25:45.TV, I just did not take my chance. But he's one of the best players in

:25:46. > :25:50.the world so I'm not going to get many chances. Did you feel the step

:25:51. > :25:54.up in pressure and expectation and the support and publicity you have

:25:55. > :25:59.had from your first two wins in the first and second round? Yes,

:26:00. > :26:03.definitely. When you win your first two, everybody expects you to do

:26:04. > :26:07.more but most people don't realise who you are playing. Playing

:26:08. > :26:12.somebody like Judd, at my age, you will not get very close very often

:26:13. > :26:16.on the issue play really well. You need a lot of the touring and I need

:26:17. > :26:20.to practise more to get to that standard. You say mature and, your

:26:21. > :26:24.approach to that match was really good and we did not see headshaking

:26:25. > :26:28.until the end and from your demeanour, you did not seem to be

:26:29. > :26:32.overawed by the occasion and you looked to be calm and taking each

:26:33. > :26:38.shot as it came. I was all right out there. I just did not turn up really

:26:39. > :26:43.on the day. Did not take my chances. I don't think you should be too

:26:44. > :26:49.disheartened, as this inspired you to want this again? Yes, definitely.

:26:50. > :26:55.It is unbelievable, the experience is great. I can hopefully come back

:26:56. > :26:57.next year. And finally, are you going to attempt to turn

:26:58. > :27:05.professional as quickly as possible or will you take more time studying

:27:06. > :27:09.or are you still shell-shocked after playing live on TV it gains the

:27:10. > :27:16.world number four? I will try and stem professional as soon as

:27:17. > :27:20.possible -- live on TV against. That and a couple of chances in Cyprus so

:27:21. > :27:23.hopefully I can get onto one of those. It has been a great run

:27:24. > :27:27.although you did not feel you produced your best, best of luck in

:27:28. > :27:31.Cyprus and we will see a watch more of you in the future.

:27:32. > :27:36.It could be a life changing few days for Jackson Page and this man might

:27:37. > :27:39.have advice for him, Judd Trump, the winner this afternoon, you have

:27:40. > :27:44.played the roll of pantomime villain and you have killed off our local

:27:45. > :27:48.lad, but clinical stuff from you. Yes, I thought it would be exciting

:27:49. > :27:53.for both of us, and good experience for me, the first person I have

:27:54. > :27:56.played. I have grown up now and he's the first person coming through I

:27:57. > :28:01.have had to play against so it is good to see someone from Great

:28:02. > :28:05.Britain getting through. China has taken over at the moment. Hopefully

:28:06. > :28:10.with some coaching and experienced people around him, he can come true

:28:11. > :28:15.and push on. What was the psychology for you going into the game that

:28:16. > :28:18.he's 15 and this should be straightforward? Was it that he has

:28:19. > :28:23.beaten decent players and he must have something about him? Yes, to

:28:24. > :28:26.get through two rounds, you are a decent player and there was nothing

:28:27. > :28:31.to achieve out of this, the pressure was on me and if I lost, it was a

:28:32. > :28:35.bit embarrassing for me and he had nothing to lose. I felt the first

:28:36. > :28:38.couple of frames, they were very important to get in front and put

:28:39. > :28:43.him under pressure and it would be a struggle. I remember from the first

:28:44. > :28:49.time I played Ronnie on TV, when you go behind, it is very hard to come

:28:50. > :28:53.back from that. Obviously, there are a couple of things he needs to work

:28:54. > :28:58.on and to learn but the potential, you can see going for his balls and

:28:59. > :29:02.not being afraid, he needs to stick with that. What advice would you

:29:03. > :29:07.have for him having been there as a youngster trying to make your way in

:29:08. > :29:12.the game? Just to keep enjoying it and doing what he does. When you get

:29:13. > :29:17.older, you kind of learn to change your game a little bit. I think over

:29:18. > :29:20.time, he might need to work on his backswing, I think it is a little

:29:21. > :29:27.too long for that kind of table. And knuckle down on his safety shots, he

:29:28. > :29:31.let me out of that, but everybody makes those mistakes and I made them

:29:32. > :29:35.and you need to make them to learn. You can always have people telling

:29:36. > :29:40.you what to do but until you experience it for yourself, you

:29:41. > :29:43.cannot believe it. A future in the game for Jackson, Terry? You don't

:29:44. > :29:47.want to put pressure on the lad, he's 15 and playing amateur snooker

:29:48. > :29:53.and under age amateur snooker. There's a long way for him to go but

:29:54. > :29:57.he looks to have the talent and good people with Mark behind him and

:29:58. > :30:01.other people looking after him. He may come through into the

:30:02. > :30:05.professional game. Judd, hoping to go far in the competition this year,

:30:06. > :30:11.with the big names going out, the field is narrowing? Yes, I get

:30:12. > :30:14.supporters here, close to home in Bristol, so I have friends and

:30:15. > :30:18.family over who support me so it would be nice to get through and

:30:19. > :30:22.play fancy shots and get through to the final this time. There were some

:30:23. > :30:29.of those in the end. Well done to you, a whitewash to you 4-0. Judd

:30:30. > :30:33.Trump going through to the last 16. A look now at how they are trying to

:30:34. > :30:37.widen the game out to more people, different sections of society, and

:30:38. > :30:38.our cameras went to the second is disability snooker Championship

:30:39. > :30:50.recently. We are at the Southwest Snooker

:30:51. > :30:52.Academy in Gloucester, it is the world disability Snooker

:30:53. > :30:53.Championships and we have players battling it out to win in their

:30:54. > :31:14.categories. That are up to eight categories with

:31:15. > :31:19.disabilities ranging from learning to physical disabilities and within

:31:20. > :31:23.that different events taking place over double black days. The first is

:31:24. > :31:27.all about getting to know the tables and the venues to put people at ease

:31:28. > :31:39.and his coaching on hand, qualified coaches. I was born with cerebral

:31:40. > :31:42.palsy nine and a half weeks premature, it's affected me

:31:43. > :31:46.throughout my life, I had reconstructive surgery to help me

:31:47. > :31:50.walk, I was confined to a wheelchair, it's been a long journey

:31:51. > :31:53.to get to where I am and I wanted to be part of this because I'm

:31:54. > :31:57.passionate about snooker as a hobby and also I thought it was a great

:31:58. > :32:04.opportunity to provide disabled men and women with an opportunity to

:32:05. > :32:07.play the beautiful game. Nine coming to these types of tournaments I

:32:08. > :32:10.think the coaches is fantastic because you are getting the

:32:11. > :32:15.competitive side of the game as well and you see snickers accessible for

:32:16. > :32:19.everyone, I've seen a lot of players gain confidence through playing

:32:20. > :32:29.snooker so I am keen for more providers to start providing for

:32:30. > :32:34.players with disabilities. With this event we feel we should be

:32:35. > :32:39.supporting players with disabilities to help them improve. So we are here

:32:40. > :32:45.to help them improve and most of all build confidence for that player.

:32:46. > :32:50.Snook is difficult across the board, whether able-bodied and disabled. I

:32:51. > :32:55.struggled with this stance and I struggled with my bridge hand

:32:56. > :33:00.because of shots, there are lots of issues that when you roll them into

:33:01. > :33:03.one create quite a problematic situation when playing snooker but

:33:04. > :33:08.ultimately the game is tough enough as it is, so you work with what

:33:09. > :33:16.abilities you've got and try to make the game as simple as possible. With

:33:17. > :33:20.Jonathan, we talked about what is issues were and how he wanted to

:33:21. > :33:24.build on those together with confidence to achieve the ultimate

:33:25. > :33:30.aim which is to put more balls in more pockets, to win. Also to win

:33:31. > :33:34.with an ease that brings confident and self-worth. That is what we are

:33:35. > :33:36.trying to do with the game to support all players with

:33:37. > :33:44.disabilities. We are looking to grow. We need many countries to make

:33:45. > :33:48.it a Paralympic event. It would be a return to snooker because it used to

:33:49. > :33:51.be in the Paralympics, it is a skilful game played all around the

:33:52. > :33:56.world's think it has its place in the Paralympics. We are looking out

:33:57. > :34:00.for many players to join us and one day we will be in the Paralympics.

:34:01. > :34:10.It is not just a dream, we will make it a reality, there's real

:34:11. > :34:16.commitment from Jason Ferguson and the organisations to make this

:34:17. > :34:21.reality. Plenty of similar defence plans will keep an eye on those, the

:34:22. > :34:24.big names keep coming today, we saw Barry Hawkins and Judd Trump just

:34:25. > :34:30.minutes ago going through, coming up, world number one Mark Selby, he

:34:31. > :34:37.also plays a teenager today. Let's get some expert thoughts on the

:34:38. > :34:40.world number one's game. Think it's safe to say that if you become world

:34:41. > :34:47.champion and world number when you know your way around the table and

:34:48. > :34:51.Mark Selby certainly does. Eunice way around the table better than

:34:52. > :34:58.anyone playing the game, I've played him more than anyone on to and I

:34:59. > :35:06.have had my share of him, he puts a difficult positions. Used to have a

:35:07. > :35:11.massive length of bridge between the and his hand and now he goes and

:35:12. > :35:15.more compact, similar to you. A lot of us came on the tour is genius,

:35:16. > :35:20.used to playing on tables that were not as fast and not as good and bad

:35:21. > :35:25.technique suited us. But when you play on these superfast cloths

:35:26. > :35:29.around the world you must have ultimate control of the cue ball and

:35:30. > :35:35.being a little nearer to it gives that. It means there's less that can

:35:36. > :35:39.go wrong, you're cue action becomes shorter and that means that less can

:35:40. > :35:45.go wrong. But it takes getting used to. And he has a strange

:35:46. > :35:49.characteristic, his head moves from side to side when he comes in for

:35:50. > :35:55.the shot. Less movement than before but definitely movement there, and

:35:56. > :35:58.the backwards or forwards or from side to side sometimes but at the

:35:59. > :36:05.moment of strike he's always in the right position. I think among many

:36:06. > :36:13.strong suits shot selection is definitely one. His strongest suit.

:36:14. > :36:17.I perhaps go for the odd shot too many, whereas Mark never over

:36:18. > :36:20.exposes himself. He is always playing shot thinking about what

:36:21. > :36:26.happens if it goes wrong, if it doesn't quite work out, whereas

:36:27. > :36:29.someone like me will go, what happens if it works! He tends to

:36:30. > :36:33.lean towards what happens if it goes wrong and that allows him to play in

:36:34. > :36:40.a slightly different way. Doesn't take on too much damage. That means

:36:41. > :36:45.he's always thereabouts. Is that why his B game is so good and when he

:36:46. > :36:50.wins a lot of matches? Yes, we can all win when we are playing at our

:36:51. > :36:54.best, making great clearances and said Judy breaks, it's easy but when

:36:55. > :37:01.you are struggling if you can have that extra string to your bow when

:37:02. > :37:05.you have a B, C, D game sometimes, you know you can relax, you know you

:37:06. > :37:12.don't have to keep clearing the table. And it makes incredibly

:37:13. > :37:18.difficult to beat. Telling me! In a short while the reigning world

:37:19. > :37:23.champion will play a Welsh Open debutant, the number 66 in the

:37:24. > :37:28.world, yet to win a ranking title, Mark Selby has ten, he was the

:37:29. > :37:35.winner here in 2008, although his opponent was world amateur champion

:37:36. > :37:43.and today is his 17th birthday. I wonder if Mark Selby will ruin that

:37:44. > :37:57.for him. Playing a teenager today, although the young man has some

:37:58. > :38:03.pedigree about him. Yes, he won a tournament already, although spiders

:38:04. > :38:09.there, I think they are having a good grooming, and those two

:38:10. > :38:13.players, as people mentioned earlier, it was Judd Trump that said

:38:14. > :38:18.that the Chinese gangsters are coming on better than the gangsters

:38:19. > :38:22.in this country which is a bit of a turn. I agree with what he says,

:38:23. > :38:27.these boys are away from home, it is not as easy for them but they are

:38:28. > :38:32.doing exceptionally well. Interesting to listen to Shaun

:38:33. > :38:37.Murphy and John Parrott analysing Mark Selby's game, he has been the

:38:38. > :38:40.world number one for two years now, and according to what they say he

:38:41. > :38:47.please quote a defensive game. Would you go along with that? I wouldn't

:38:48. > :38:51.say he plays a defensive game. His defensive play is, I think, the best

:38:52. > :38:56.in the world at the moment. The best I've seen, the way that he plays the

:38:57. > :39:01.angles, the safety play, the judgment, right around the table and

:39:02. > :39:05.behind something. He scores heavily. His technique is a little different

:39:06. > :39:16.from others but at the moment he is struggling because only ?405,000

:39:17. > :39:22.away from the second player in the world in the money list! Is

:39:23. > :39:27.knock-about is huge. Huge! It is almost impossible for him not to be

:39:28. > :39:33.number one -- in snooker that is huge. Oti comes into the arena to

:39:34. > :39:38.take on Yan Bingtao. Will he make his way through as smoothly as Judd

:39:39. > :39:42.Trump did? Over to Dominic Dale and Willie Thorne, your commentators.

:39:43. > :39:46.COMMENTATOR: Thank you. Good afternoon, everyone. World number

:39:47. > :39:52.one and world champion Mark Selby gets into the arena against Yan

:39:53. > :39:56.Bingtao. To be honest we haven't seen too much of Yan Bingtao but

:39:57. > :40:01.he's having some great results this season and they tell me he is one to

:40:02. > :40:06.watch for the future. Interesting to see how he copes with world number

:40:07. > :40:10.one Mark Selby. Yan Bingtao to break. Ronnie O'Sullivan speaks

:40:11. > :40:30.highly of this young man. He is a great player, Yan Bingtao, I

:40:31. > :40:37.believe he has just turned 17, he looks much older than that but 17

:40:38. > :40:42.years. Played really well recently against Ronnie O'Sullivan in the

:40:43. > :40:48.world Grand Prix. Had it not been for a massive fluke that Ronnie had

:40:49. > :40:52.at two frames all he would definitely have been 3-2 down and

:40:53. > :41:01.young Yan Bingtao could easily have beaten Ronnie. Played him a couple

:41:02. > :41:05.of times. What really impresses me about Yan Bingtao is that he has a

:41:06. > :41:08.bit of an old head on young shoulders, please and all-round

:41:09. > :42:01.solid game. Clearly neither player has settled.

:42:02. > :42:06.Mark Selby is always in the position these days when he is in a no- win

:42:07. > :42:08.situation, everyone expects him to win and that causes its own

:42:09. > :42:36.problems. Nice cue action. Yes, it does take a while to

:42:37. > :42:43.understand the way the cloths and the balls are reacting. It will not

:42:44. > :42:55.be long before the players find their range. I found in my much

:42:56. > :43:00.earlier that it is not so easy, not the sort of cloths that you see in

:43:01. > :43:06.your club that last one year. This type of the last few weeks.

:43:07. > :43:14.Delicate, I suppose is the word, I would not say that they are light,

:43:15. > :43:19.as such. Although they do get ironed and brushed after every session.

:43:20. > :44:18.They do get a little old after time. A little careful he does not cut it

:44:19. > :44:24.too thin and send it into the red, no problem there if he pushes the

:44:25. > :44:29.red towards the corner, the Green could come to his rescue, doesn't it

:44:30. > :44:45.so. The first real mistake has come from Yan.

:44:46. > :45:01.Off and running. I don't think Mark will be too adventurous with his

:45:02. > :45:05.next positional shot, it is quite the other side cushion, he knows

:45:06. > :45:09.that the red near the corner will offer a good position for the black.

:45:10. > :45:20.So he needs to make sure of colour, if he can.

:45:21. > :45:31.Purposely making sure he did not leave this thread dead straight. You

:45:32. > :45:38.can see how long he is cueing here, playing with a lot of drag. I can't

:45:39. > :45:49.see him missing rat. The reason he plays that way is because he hopes

:45:50. > :45:53.the cue ball doesn't roll off. I found that interesting. I used to do

:45:54. > :45:55.that with the side spin so much in my much, I wasn't expecting movement

:45:56. > :46:23.as much. A bit lucky, Mark, could have left a

:46:24. > :47:34.much easier red for Yan Bingtao. Quite wisely playing a safety shot.

:47:35. > :47:42.I think the key to this match is Yan Bingtao staying with Mark in the

:47:43. > :47:46.break department, it would be unlikely for him to compete in the

:47:47. > :47:54.safety department. I would expect Yan Bingtao to play the more

:47:55. > :47:55.aggressive safety shot. Selby probably the number one in that

:47:56. > :48:28.department, as he is in most. A really well struck safety shot

:48:29. > :48:31.from Yan Bingtao. He deserved to cover the red in the left corner

:48:32. > :48:36.with the band. It has put Mark Selby in a spot of bother because he can't

:48:37. > :48:45.play safety shot down the left because the pink is hiding that

:48:46. > :48:50.every of the pack of reds. It does have a couple of portable balls to

:48:51. > :48:55.the right but far too risky. Struggling to see how he could get

:48:56. > :49:00.back and even if he does so that red in the corner could be waiting for

:49:01. > :49:13.Yan Bingtao. In a little bit of trouble, Mark Selby.

:49:14. > :49:22.How is that for perfect cueing? Dead straight port. Potted it right into

:49:23. > :49:27.the pocket. In a strange way that could give Selby confidence, he has

:49:28. > :49:31.hit it so purely, so perfectly, you probably go back to his seat

:49:32. > :49:47.thinking, I'm cueing well, even if he has left this read on.

:49:48. > :49:53.It would have been unlucky not to be perfect but the kiss has made it

:49:54. > :49:57.straightforward, this looks difficult, although he would love to

:49:58. > :50:01.get the gap on the red to the right of the black, if he could get that

:50:02. > :50:08.gap by screwing back, that is with the tip of his cue was looking but

:50:09. > :50:15.it is too risky to played out. If he can keep can get the black into

:50:16. > :50:29.play. He's played that very well indeed. Well done. He might have to

:50:30. > :50:31.screw into the black. He's found another read. That will make things

:50:32. > :50:49.a bit easier. To see if he can get the gap a

:50:50. > :51:19.second time, it might well be too risky to play it.

:51:20. > :51:28.He's played that perfectly, Yan Bingtao. A lovely angle on the red.

:51:29. > :51:32.Just to set up the black in the opposite corner. The thing I like

:51:33. > :51:36.about Yan Bingtao because I know him quite well, I've played a couple of

:51:37. > :51:41.times, we have beaten each other once, he knows how good he is. He

:51:42. > :51:48.has a lot of belief in what he can do, in his ability. He's not averse

:51:49. > :51:51.to hitting the table in annoyance when things go wrong because he

:51:52. > :52:06.expects things of himself and that is good.

:52:07. > :52:13.Got to be careful with this, they tend to sometimes fly off the back

:52:14. > :52:17.cushion when you are playing a slow roll through. He may find himself

:52:18. > :52:22.hampered for the next black. He needs to pot this dead weight.

:52:23. > :52:27.Ideally he would like to kiss the red nearest the cue ball. That would

:52:28. > :52:30.make it straightforward. He has to play to the side to get that, that's

:52:31. > :52:32.where he played the pink rather than the black. Now he's in no man's

:52:33. > :53:28.land. That is very good. Will he move the

:53:29. > :53:35.red away from the black or screw back, when he gets rid of the red

:53:36. > :53:47.that is to the left of the black it makes things a lot easier.

:53:48. > :53:52.Just one shot from making this a frame-winning break, he's just a

:53:53. > :54:01.little awkward when he comes to the table at the moment. The choice of

:54:02. > :54:12.two reds neither of which are in a perfect position. Just run through

:54:13. > :54:13.an inch too far. The pink still available but wanted to be

:54:14. > :54:39.straighter. Excellent pot on the pink but once

:54:40. > :54:44.it is spotted the red next to the cue ball will be blocking the path

:54:45. > :54:50.to the corner, as you can see so no easy next red now, for Yan Bingtao.

:54:51. > :55:06.He doesn't want to take something on and miss it.

:55:07. > :55:14.Exactly Dominic 's point. If Mark can get through to this red that 43

:55:15. > :55:21.point lead could evaporate quickly, and he can get through to it. A

:55:22. > :55:26.little unlucky, Yan, to be fair, in that break of 42 he kept trying to

:55:27. > :55:29.get the black in open play in both corners and every time he was an

:55:30. > :55:38.inch away from being in the perfect position. That isn't great but he

:55:39. > :55:43.can slow down the white by playing a cannon on the red just below the

:55:44. > :56:05.pink, try to hold it dead. It ran on and on. So, cannon needed.

:56:06. > :56:16.Very well played by Mark, made that look much easier than it was. A good

:56:17. > :56:20.first red he knocked in as well, it was not easy to hold the cue ball

:56:21. > :56:27.over distance. He's got two potentially difficult reads, one

:56:28. > :56:31.near the right side cushion and one on this top cushion behind the black

:56:32. > :56:43.spot. He should be able to get right back in the frame here.

:56:44. > :56:55.Although he is 34 points behind, he has just become the favourite to win

:56:56. > :57:00.this frame, Mark Selby. You can't afford to take anything risky.

:57:01. > :57:03.Dominic mentioned earlier in the commentary how difficult it was when

:57:04. > :57:08.you are playing that kind of shot to hold the white. There was another

:57:09. > :57:12.example here. The White has gone six or seven inches further than he

:57:13. > :57:16.wanted, he should still be able to hold.

:57:17. > :57:32.We didn't see that one coming, did we? I don't think Mark has played on

:57:33. > :57:35.this table this week. But pocket has been causing a few of the players

:57:36. > :58:13.problems this week. -- that pocket. What a horrible kick, goodness me.

:58:14. > :58:20.We will get a chance to see this again. Look at the way dispensers,

:58:21. > :58:34.it is just not fair. -- look at the way that this bounces. Not only

:58:35. > :58:38.bouncing, squaring up. Good note for referees, when you see a kick that

:58:39. > :58:46.bad there's was a chalk mark on the ball. -- there is always a chalk

:58:47. > :58:55.mark on the ball. And that is very fortunate. The mark that Dominic is

:58:56. > :58:59.talking about, you can see the mark on the left there. Mark Selby has

:59:00. > :59:05.been very fortunate to get on the black in the opposite corner. He is

:59:06. > :59:10.not there at all at the minute, is he, Mark? I think it is the way that

:59:11. > :59:14.the gloves are playing at the moment. It's caught out a lot of the

:59:15. > :59:22.top players and not all of them have gone through -- the cloths. You have

:59:23. > :59:30.to accustom yourself to the way that conditions are playing. Sometimes

:59:31. > :59:39.you just don't acclimatise. Fabulous recovery. Write to the heart of the

:59:40. > :59:43.pocket. Not the greatest of angles on this black, you have to try to

:59:44. > :59:50.screw behind to leave it to the middle pocket. The reason I

:59:51. > :59:56.suggested screwing behind it was that he had the choice of two

:59:57. > :00:04.pockets. Now he's faced with a tough part, should he want to take it on.

:00:05. > :00:42.-- a tough The People The Poet. As you would expect from Mark Selby,

:00:43. > :00:49.nothing risky. 20 points behind. Yan Bingtao will be delighted to be back

:00:50. > :00:50.on the table so soon. He felt there was a chance for Selby to pinch the

:00:51. > :01:34.frame. Almost got in behind the yellow. .

:01:35. > :01:39.Play that in a nice controlled manner, Yan Bingtao. Even if he had

:01:40. > :02:09.potted the rent... -Zilla and another excellent pot.

:02:10. > :02:14.But the desired angle on the blue, it's all a case of getting straight

:02:15. > :02:24.on the red. An inch to half an inch of the question. You want to get

:02:25. > :02:32.onto the black. If he is tight, he might plate. If you play these dead

:02:33. > :02:37.weight, these are quite easy. It's amazing how difficult they are, if

:02:38. > :02:43.they are a fraction off percussion. Yes, I would definitely play dead

:02:44. > :02:53.weight. You have to worry if the key ball deviates before it hits red.

:02:54. > :03:03.Selby doesn't want to risk anything. He's snookered him. Playing

:03:04. > :03:49.everything very tight. He's hit the red. Has he been

:03:50. > :04:04.fortunate? Yes, he has. Well played, Yan he deserved that.

:04:05. > :04:12.Looney a straightforward safety shot. Mark would like to play the

:04:13. > :04:15.right-hand side of the red. You have to be careful the red doesn't spring

:04:16. > :04:16.off the brown and go towards the middle pocket. It's not

:04:17. > :04:47.straightforward, this safety. He's thinking about playing of the

:04:48. > :04:53.left-hand side of the red and how. Around the yellow. But I think

:04:54. > :05:03.that's too risky. He could knock it safe.

:05:04. > :05:15.That's not bad. Right over the middle pocket. Could have made the

:05:16. > :06:17.other side cushion. He hasn't left the rent on.

:06:18. > :06:26.This is the worrying thing for Yan. If he tries to compete with Selby in

:06:27. > :07:11.the safety department he will finish second best. Not too bad, well done.

:07:12. > :07:25.Certainly looks like a snooker. Even if it isn't, it's so close to

:07:26. > :07:34.snooker it makes no difference. What about this last red? There is no

:07:35. > :07:43.insurance policy for Yan Bingtao if he were to leave Mark Selby in. He

:07:44. > :07:49.could see enough of the red to do something with it.

:07:50. > :08:11.There is a pot on here for Mark Selby.

:08:12. > :08:25.He decided it was probably too risky to play the pot. Same scenario

:08:26. > :08:33.further Yan. -- the same scenario for a Yan. It will be tough to

:08:34. > :08:48.guarantee the object ball getting safe. It looks like he is taking it

:08:49. > :08:53.on. Always very, very difficult. But he will be pretty pleased with how

:08:54. > :08:57.it is finished. This red is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. I

:08:58. > :09:03.would not be surprised if Mark refuses it. It came off the

:09:04. > :09:06.side-cushion macro with a weird spin on it. Negotiated towards the baulk

:09:07. > :09:38.macrocosm. -- the baulk cushion. Excellent pot. Now, by no means

:09:39. > :09:43.easy. Yan Bingtao has controlled this opening frame. He could

:09:44. > :09:48.possibly lose it at this visit. It is coming up to 30 minutes of

:09:49. > :09:55.playing time. Probably the longest frame of the match. Yan likes to get

:09:56. > :10:01.on with it. Selby is not the slowest unless his opponent is playing slow.

:10:02. > :10:06.That is another one of Mark's attributes. Whatever the patter of

:10:07. > :10:10.play, Mark seems to have the concentration whether it is a quick

:10:11. > :10:23.frame or slow frame. Other players get frustrated. Mark Selby doesn't.

:10:24. > :10:29.Once again the speed of the table has nearly fooled him. But that is

:10:30. > :10:34.no problem. The only thing that could go wrong here is if he hits it

:10:35. > :10:44.a fraction too hard and finishes tied on the cushion. -- tight. The

:10:45. > :11:22.clearance should not be a problem. Just blue and pink needed. This will

:11:23. > :11:28.hurt Yan. He has been in control of this frame throughout. What looked

:11:29. > :11:34.like a good safety shot lost him the game. The red looked to be safe. An

:11:35. > :11:48.excellent pot on the last red from Mark Selby. Mark Selby as won that

:11:49. > :11:56.frame with a high break of 26. That is what he does. He wins in all

:11:57. > :12:01.types of frames. 31 minutes, that opening frame.

:12:02. > :12:08.Let's bring you a few other selected results from around the arena. Jimmy

:12:09. > :12:14.Robertson, the world number 38, a 4-0 whitewash to lower ranked Scott

:12:15. > :12:23.Donaldson. Ross Mueller knocked out Marco Fu yesterday. He is out now.

:12:24. > :12:29.-- Ross Mueller. Anthony Hamilton beaten by Craig Steadman. Stuart

:12:30. > :12:35.Carrington through. And Mark Davis, Ronnie O'Sullivan's nemesis last

:12:36. > :12:40.night, a 4-2 winner over Fergal O'Brien. It is time we caught up

:12:41. > :12:49.with the Lee Walker match. He is in action on table two. Walker leading

:12:50. > :12:54.3-2. He needs all three balls to get the match.

:12:55. > :12:58.The pink and the black. We are seeing this live, Terry. Can Lee

:12:59. > :13:05.Walker get over the line against the former world champion? A big chance

:13:06. > :13:10.for a leave. We saw Dominic Dale go out earlier on. Jackson Page, the

:13:11. > :13:18.teenage wild card, has gone. So Walker and White Hurley only

:13:19. > :13:23.Welshman left in the tournament. -- are the only Welsh men. We will

:13:24. > :13:27.stick with this for a few seconds more. Selby is about to break off in

:13:28. > :13:34.the second frame of the match we are watching. We will see if Walker can

:13:35. > :13:43.pot this black. I should think he will pot it. I think he should,

:13:44. > :13:54.shouldn't he?!! He played really well against Neil Robertson

:13:55. > :14:01.yesterday. Lee Walker makes his way into the last 16 of the 2017 Welsh

:14:02. > :14:05.Open. It's been a good tournament for him. We will see who he gets in

:14:06. > :14:15.the next round. Meantime, let's head back into the arena with Mark Selby

:14:16. > :14:22.leading 1-0. Mark Selby breaks off for the second

:14:23. > :14:26.frame. He must feel a little fortunate to have won that first

:14:27. > :14:32.frame. Yan suffered that horrendous kick when he looked set fair to win

:14:33. > :14:43.the first frame. Once again, Mark Selby has a great ability to play

:14:44. > :14:48.safety shots. Tactical knowledge. A good opening red from Yan Bingtao.

:14:49. > :14:53.Not a bad kiss on the yellow. If the Brownies straight enough, he can get

:14:54. > :15:53.back down for the reds. -- if the brownies straight enough...

:15:54. > :15:57.There is a rarity. A loose safety shot from Mark Selby. A shake of the

:15:58. > :17:36.head as he sat in his chair. Trying to finish low on the next red

:17:37. > :17:41.so he can open the reds up. If he finishes high, what a great pack to

:17:42. > :17:47.go into. He has finished low. The pink is out of commission. He can

:17:48. > :17:55.play a screw with the reverse side to go blue or green, or check it for

:17:56. > :17:59.the black. He has played neither. He was hoping to finish nicely on the

:18:00. > :18:15.black. He has just lost the cue ball a little bit.

:18:16. > :18:24.It goes without saying, if he takes the black on it is very missable. He

:18:25. > :18:29.will have to play it at pace to get onto one of the reds in the middle.

:18:30. > :18:41.This is tough, especially having lost the first frame. Played it with

:18:42. > :18:48.just enough pace. That is an excellent pot. We have seen a lot of

:18:49. > :20:31.those stay above ground before this week.

:20:32. > :20:38.He's getting himself in trouble, really. He has not played a very

:20:39. > :20:44.good shot there. It is difficult when you are playing a slow roll.

:20:45. > :20:49.You can play it harder and go for the brown or green rather than the

:20:50. > :20:57.blue. That's what he has done. He didn't want to risk rolling it in

:20:58. > :21:00.slowly. He is very capable in the break-building department. He needs

:21:01. > :21:07.more close control with the cue ball. I was a bit perplexed to see

:21:08. > :21:13.why you would want to move the red off the cushion. It shouldn't

:21:14. > :21:22.matter. He has got a nice position on the red to the left centre. I

:21:23. > :21:29.don't know if any of those four reds are possible. A couple of them seem

:21:30. > :21:36.to be in the centre pocket. He has left a lovely angle on the black to

:21:37. > :21:42.go into those reds if he needs to. He could jam against them and land

:21:43. > :21:52.on nothing. There is Dominic's point. You need to hit that half

:21:53. > :22:00.ball. Hence, it was almost like a stopper. The only thing I would say

:22:01. > :22:06.that was slightly adrift there, he should have played slower. This is a

:22:07. > :22:19.similar scenario to the last frame when he had complete control. This

:22:20. > :22:25.could cost him if he misses. Now then, are we going to see the same

:22:26. > :22:31.pattern as the previous frame? Selby had no chance of winning it. And he

:22:32. > :22:32.eventually won it after half an hour. He didn't really need to take

:22:33. > :23:11.that one on. It had to go in. Just a little short of pace. He

:23:12. > :23:24.would have loved to have been on the black. It's essential to finish top

:23:25. > :23:35.side of the blue this time. He just about got there. Just an inch higher

:23:36. > :23:46.on the blue and he may have been able to develop this red on the

:23:47. > :23:53.cushion. It has worked out okay. He could remove one of the trickier

:23:54. > :24:04.reds here. He is opting for the simpler one. If the pink had been on

:24:05. > :24:15.its spot, he would have parted that red. -- potted. After this next

:24:16. > :24:24.black, next red and colour, the work really starts. And if he plays this

:24:25. > :24:28.playing ball, he can almost cannon into the pink, which would be a

:24:29. > :24:32.great help. Maybe needs a fraction of left-hand side. He may play that.

:24:33. > :24:45.He is bound to be on the brown or baulk colour.

:24:46. > :25:14.He is nicely on this red. Can he just force an angle around the

:25:15. > :25:22.pocket jaws and land loan off on the black to run into that remaining red

:25:23. > :25:28.on the cushion? That is what he would like to do. He will have to

:25:29. > :25:45.punch this in to create a better angle than he has got.

:25:46. > :25:56.He just didn't get enough spin on the ball. If you were to roll this

:25:57. > :26:23.black and missed the cannon on the red...

:26:24. > :26:36.He won't be taking the pot on here. Has he got the snooker? He doesn't

:26:37. > :26:54.miss a trick, does he? There is a gap between the green and

:26:55. > :27:01.blue to swerve and make the cannon on the red. He doesn't want that red

:27:02. > :27:08.to go up the table. He will be happy with this. Or will he?

:27:09. > :27:14.Unfortunately, he has left the red on. And in such a way that Mark can

:27:15. > :27:19.play into the pink as well. A little unlucky not to get behind the black.

:27:20. > :27:26.If Mark pots this with left-hand side, it could bring the pink

:27:27. > :27:33.interplay. He has gone very low on the cue ball. I was a little

:27:34. > :27:48.surprised he didn't play the cannon there. Yan only needs this remaining

:27:49. > :27:59.red to make the frame safe. He is 30 points ahead. You would like to stun

:28:00. > :28:04.this in. -- he would like to stun this in. He just needs to get enough

:28:05. > :28:19.stun on it is to miss the black. Well played, Yan Bingtao. He

:28:20. > :28:23.deserves to be 1-1. It was a thunderous kick that cost him the

:28:24. > :28:27.first frame. He has coped with that very well. He must have been very

:28:28. > :28:32.disappointed to have lost that first frame. It would have been a good

:28:33. > :28:40.start and it would have put Mark Selby under immediate pressure. You

:28:41. > :29:53.can see a spot of chalk as the red roles towards the pocket.

:29:54. > :30:06.Can Yan Bingtao finally put the second to bed? An opportunity with a

:30:07. > :30:14.pot on the yellow. That was too thin. I'm trying to think of another

:30:15. > :30:20.player I would least rather play in this position. Mark Selby would be

:30:21. > :30:25.right up there with somebody like John Higgins. Yan Bingtao has far

:30:26. > :30:50.from won this second frame. That's a good snooker because it

:30:51. > :30:57.comes off the side cushion. The middle pocket is in exactly the type

:30:58. > :31:03.of area Yan Bingtao would like to escape from. He has to try and

:31:04. > :31:18.straighten the angle up here. This is tricky. That'll do. Suppose he

:31:19. > :31:22.deserves a bit of luck. Certainly very lucky. Can end the yellow. Very

:31:23. > :32:10.unfortunate. I suggested after the first frame

:32:11. > :32:16.after 30 minutes it would be the longest frame of the match. There is

:32:17. > :32:30.life in this frame yet. After 18 minutes of play.

:32:31. > :32:36.Playing a season campaign at snooker, someone who has been around

:32:37. > :32:40.a long while, streetwise, you would expect four snookers to get the one

:32:41. > :32:47.you desire. You would expect them to get three of four. He hit it 100

:32:48. > :32:54.miles an hour. For what reason, I don't know. Mark Selby may only need

:32:55. > :33:03.one snooker to force Yan into missing it. This looks a bit tidy.

:33:04. > :33:26.There is a gap. Always a gap. He's found one affair, Yan Bingtao,

:33:27. > :33:32.super shot. The yellow backed by the right-centre pocket. If Mark Selby

:33:33. > :33:33.were to make contact with yellow, there would be a danger of going in

:33:34. > :33:56.off. He has missed the yellow. We'll Mark

:33:57. > :34:02.Selby take a look at Yan Bingtao and decided to concede? No. That's good

:34:03. > :34:07.from Mark Selby. It's at a good of the sport not to concede when it is

:34:08. > :34:11.the shot of your opponent. Wait for him to finish at the table, until it

:34:12. > :34:14.is your own shot, before you concede. Not all players do that,

:34:15. > :34:41.unfortunately, these days. It'll be a very interesting match,

:34:42. > :34:47.this, between these two. No doubt in my mind Yan Bingtao will be a great

:34:48. > :35:04.play in future, if he's not already won.

:35:05. > :35:18.Yan Bingtao clears up the colours. He levelled the scores at 1-1. We

:35:19. > :35:22.might have a match on our hands. Let's bring a couple of others

:35:23. > :35:30.around the arena. The world number 32 has beaten Josh, a 4-0 whitewash.

:35:31. > :35:36.Josh was the man who dumped out Shaun Murphy yesterday. Another top

:35:37. > :35:41.16 player out of the tournament. Ali Carter, 12 in the world, beaten by

:35:42. > :35:47.the only uranium professional in the history of the game. A 4-1 win for

:35:48. > :35:57.the man who will now play Judd Trump this evening in the last 16. Talk to

:35:58. > :36:01.me about that comeback from Yan Bingtao. It served to win the frame,

:36:02. > :36:07.the first frame he had a bad kick. He would have won that first frame.

:36:08. > :36:16.Selby's highest is 32 at the moment, he's not flying. The other boys made

:36:17. > :36:20.42 and 57. In some ways he's been a little bit better than Selby but we

:36:21. > :36:27.seen it all before. He sort of waits for you to get in front of him, then

:36:28. > :36:34.he clears up all the time. He's just a tremendous match player, Selby.

:36:35. > :36:40.The psychology of it all, thinking I can't miss this short or Selby will

:36:41. > :36:46.be back to clear up. When somebody is 150, 60, playing against Selby,

:36:47. > :36:58.it comes into the mine. You put out into the shot, miss it. When you're

:36:59. > :37:04.safe but you only need one, Selby is the best in the world at the moment

:37:05. > :37:08.at getting that snooker within a frame. He might not have the

:37:09. > :37:13.flamboyance of O'Sullivan and Trump, but he knows how to see them out. I

:37:14. > :37:16.thought you were going to say the flamboyance of me there. Bit

:37:17. > :37:28.disappointing. 1-1 in this game. Not a big break up shot. Selby

:37:29. > :37:31.having trouble as far as getting back in the book is concerned. White

:37:32. > :38:17.at this end of the table. A very good cubicle from Yan

:38:18. > :38:29.Bingtao. Red to the left. A good safety shot from Mark Selby. Green

:38:30. > :38:34.will probably cover the red near that baulk line. Yan Bingtao needs

:38:35. > :38:41.to make sure it's past the baulk line. Sometimes it can alter your

:38:42. > :39:32.short choice, you prefer to take pressure on yourself.

:39:33. > :39:38.He'll take a little while to decide what to play. He's played it pretty

:39:39. > :40:22.well. Fabulous from Mark Selby, just held

:40:23. > :40:33.the cue ball. He's mentally so good, Mark Selby. He alluded earlier to

:40:34. > :40:36.being under all kinds of pressure. Sometimes Mark's ball can be

:40:37. > :40:40.indifferent sometimes but he gets on with a job in the next frame. The

:40:41. > :40:48.mind and the present is not to dwell on what has gone before. Important

:40:49. > :40:55.in top-level sport. Mark is one of the best players in the world going

:40:56. > :41:07.into the pack. He plays into the pack as good as anybody. Spread far

:41:08. > :41:12.and wide. So hard to make the pack move when they are like that. You

:41:13. > :41:28.always end up having a slight chance of one in the middles.

:41:29. > :41:47.Goodness me, that was close. That was so close, wasn't it? Dreaded

:41:48. > :42:19.number 30. -- number 13. That's why he missed it.

:42:20. > :42:26.The problem here for Yan Bingtao is back red light over the corner

:42:27. > :42:33.pocket, I can't see a red he can knock on to it to make the pot. He's

:42:34. > :42:43.probably going to have to try and hide it. Pretty good, he deserved

:42:44. > :43:26.much more than that. The one to the right of the pink is

:43:27. > :43:32.available to play. Play Buchanan. Ford with danger. The alternative is

:43:33. > :43:43.to roll up on the red nearest the cue ball. Can't really get an

:43:44. > :43:54.advantage of the next shot... The one one up from the pink, I suggest

:43:55. > :43:59.he rolls up to the red. If Scott Mitchell he doesn't leave the red in

:44:00. > :44:06.the middle left-hand side... He's in a little bit of trouble here. Yes,

:44:07. > :44:13.he is, the red nearest the cue ball, the one at the back of the group of

:44:14. > :44:21.four, he can't run it past the red in front, it would clip it out of

:44:22. > :44:29.the way. It would suggest he's in a lot of trouble here. The red just to

:44:30. > :44:46.the left of blue is blocking a chance of running a red onto one

:44:47. > :44:54.pocket. There is space there. He may end up having to play that.

:44:55. > :45:00.Looking at all options that's probably the only shot he's got. As

:45:01. > :45:06.you rightly say, we've discussed in commentary, to roll up to the red

:45:07. > :45:09.nearest black now you might flick of the other red and leave the pot in

:45:10. > :45:16.the middle of macro leave the opportunity... The one just above

:45:17. > :45:19.the pink onto the one that in the yellow pocket.

:45:20. > :45:46.It's so hard. He has hit the red in. That is a great shot. Well played.

:45:47. > :45:55.Yes, fantastic shot from that young man, Yan Bingtao. If he potted that

:45:56. > :46:00.red, he would have knocked the other one in automatically. He was

:46:01. > :46:13.probably playing the pot they're. And the rest would take care of

:46:14. > :46:22.itself. I think he is okay. I thought I had John Virgo in the box

:46:23. > :46:44.then! I didn't have the pantomime voice though, did I?

:46:45. > :46:53.This is the key shot. Now he knows he should score heavily. This is the

:46:54. > :46:56.first time he has been in a great position in this little mini break.

:46:57. > :48:02.He is doing all the scoring at the moment.

:48:03. > :48:20.A huge kick. The red was dead straight, so he didn't miss the pot.

:48:21. > :48:26.He played it at a slight pace. He holds a lead now of some 21 points,

:48:27. > :48:29.Yan Bingtao. He would be disappointed if he didn't make

:48:30. > :49:21.enough points here to go on and win the frame.

:49:22. > :49:27.I have had the pleasure of watching this young man play very much. With

:49:28. > :49:30.all the hype that has been going around the snooker world about how

:49:31. > :49:38.good a talent he is, he certainly is. Your local Welshman has done

:49:39. > :49:45.remarkably well. But this guy is only 17. He has a little bit more

:49:46. > :49:55.know-how. He would be a handful for most players.

:49:56. > :50:04.Yes. People ask me sometimes, they suggest to me how difficult the tour

:50:05. > :50:17.is, there are some great players, which is true. But there is a great

:50:18. > :50:21.crop of emerging new talent on the tour -- there isn't a great crop of

:50:22. > :50:24.emerging new talent on the tour that impresses me very much, not when you

:50:25. > :50:30.compare them to Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan and the likes of

:50:31. > :50:41.those coming through. This kid is right up there with them, in my

:50:42. > :50:45.opinion. We don't seem to have an emerging talent coming from the

:50:46. > :50:50.English part of the world. Obviously we have the young man from Wales

:50:51. > :50:53.doing very well. An abundance of players coming from the Far East.

:50:54. > :50:59.This is the best of the young players, for me. A glance at the

:51:00. > :51:06.scoreboard will tell him he is 42 point in front. Just a two more reds

:51:07. > :51:14.needed. He will play for the black and the one in the baulk area rather

:51:15. > :51:16.than risk the cannon. He will do rail -- well to get onto a red from

:51:17. > :51:30.here. Forced the cannon but couldn't

:51:31. > :51:36.generate the pace required to bring the red into play. I don't blame him

:51:37. > :51:42.taking this red on. Whatever you do, don't play it too firm. Get the

:51:43. > :51:50.white somewhere near the cushion. Just in case you miss. He has played

:51:51. > :51:57.for a colour there. There is no need to play for a colour. Just pop the

:51:58. > :52:01.red, leave the white on the cushion. Okay, he is a strong, strong

:52:02. > :52:08.favourite to win the frame, but it is still live. A bit fortunate,

:52:09. > :52:14.really. The red could have easily come back down the table towards the

:52:15. > :52:23.black. He has put the green in an awkward position. Mark Selby trying

:52:24. > :53:03.to make position on the black much easier.

:53:04. > :53:18.He has to be careful the red doesn't go in the left-hand corner. Which he

:53:19. > :53:24.did do. Not a particularly great white.

:53:25. > :53:33.I think it's good in that it is forcing Yan to remove this remaining

:53:34. > :53:48.loose red. He has to be really careful what he does here. That's

:53:49. > :53:54.not bad. The green... A little bit in the balance, this frame. Mark is

:53:55. > :53:55.very clever at manipulating the balls into positions that favour

:53:56. > :54:57.him. He has to be carefully doesn't bring

:54:58. > :55:03.the green away from this pocket. That was a shot to nothing. If you

:55:04. > :55:08.move the Greenaway, all of a sudden the frame is alive again. Very

:55:09. > :55:12.difficult for Mark to get three reds and three blacks, with where the

:55:13. > :56:20.green is. He may play this off the left-hand

:56:21. > :56:26.side of the red he is closest to. Try to get the white almost behind

:56:27. > :56:34.the yellow spot. Make sure you cover the red in baulk.

:56:35. > :57:12.He could have done with it a fraction thinner.

:57:13. > :57:19.I think Yan tried to get the cue ball in behind the black. The shot I

:57:20. > :57:26.would have played was to try to cannon the black to the side-cushion

:57:27. > :57:28.nine that Mark Selby needs it. I wonder if Mark will play this thin

:57:29. > :57:44.safety shot off the red? It is causing a bit of a stalemate,

:57:45. > :58:12.the green. Obviously with the score being as it

:58:13. > :58:14.is, and these three reds and three blacks,... Don't move the green.

:58:15. > :58:33.That is okay. I like that shot that Yan has

:58:34. > :59:21.played. He is snooker, I think, on all reds.

:59:22. > :59:30.Given that Yan Bingtao is dominating this match so far, he should have

:59:31. > :59:37.been 3-0 in front, things have been a little pedestrian. Mark Selby

:59:38. > :59:41.knows how to slow things down. We know that he will play well

:59:42. > :59:42.sometimes during this match. But he has to compete against him in all

:59:43. > :59:59.departments. Yes, because Mark can't really roll

:00:00. > :00:08.up to those raids because the chances are he will leave one into

:00:09. > :00:35.the centre. -- reds. Mark is in trouble here, that is for sure.

:00:36. > :00:44.Mark a little unlucky. He got the white where he wanted. It seemed to

:00:45. > :01:09.gather pace. This red is not easy to cut.

:01:10. > :01:23.Don't worry about the wind, just make sure the red here... -- about

:01:24. > :01:33.the white stop well played. I said don't worry about the white... Must

:01:34. > :01:35.be careful. He wants to make sure of potting the yellow, should he go for

:01:36. > :01:53.it. That might make Mark Selby stay in

:01:54. > :02:15.his chair. Very well played. These two friends

:02:16. > :02:18.have been a little pedestrian. Yan Bingtao has certainly been the

:02:19. > :02:27.better of the two players without doubt. He could have been 3-0 in

:02:28. > :02:39.front. Mark Selby has no doubt got a match on his hands here.

:02:40. > :03:24.Temp to with the highest of the match so far. 62 in this frame.

:03:25. > :03:31.Slowed the cue ball down, the bounce it had. Not too worried about that,

:03:32. > :03:51.the way things have gone in this frame.

:03:52. > :03:58.A very good performance from Yan Bingtao. Another seed seems to be in

:03:59. > :04:06.trouble. Yan Bingtao takes it to lead 2-1. STUDIO: Another big name

:04:07. > :04:11.in trouble here in Cardiff. With Selby 2-1 down in this game. We'll

:04:12. > :04:16.be back shortly on that table but let's take you to what happened

:04:17. > :04:25.earlier on table three. Michael White, quarterfinalist here last

:04:26. > :04:30.year, knocked out his opponent Yan Wang bow yesterday. His journey he

:04:31. > :04:38.is about to end against Robbie Williams. Losing 4-2 earlier, White.

:04:39. > :04:43.Down to just one white man, Lee Walker, left in the competition. Out

:04:44. > :04:47.goes Michael White with that 4-2 to Robbie Williams of England. It's a

:04:48. > :04:53.real shame because we saw yesterday how much it meant to Michael White,

:04:54. > :04:58.that punch at the end. He was determined to get at least a quarter

:04:59. > :05:05.is again this year. He's up against a tough opponent in Robbie Williams,

:05:06. > :05:14.he's one of the ones who slows you down. Robbie keeps it a bit tight,

:05:15. > :05:19.good safety player. He's beating a lot of the top seeds, hasn't got

:05:20. > :05:27.into the late stages at all. He'll be delighted with that. Michael

:05:28. > :05:32.Stich Phil took a step forwards, how do you see his career progressing?

:05:33. > :05:42.At the moment it's not going forward. He won a racket tournament,

:05:43. > :05:48.got into the top 16. I thought he would push on from them. I've seen

:05:49. > :05:52.him since he was a young boy in my club tournament. He is a winner. At

:05:53. > :05:57.the moment he's lost his way a little bit. I'm not sure what he's

:05:58. > :06:02.doing at the moment but he's not playing the same. Walker is the only

:06:03. > :06:11.Welshman left in the competition. Another shock on I wouldn't say a

:06:12. > :06:19.certain shock, but maybe. He's a great potter. He looks calm, his

:06:20. > :06:22.temperament is good, he's not a huge break-builder but he looks

:06:23. > :06:27.confident. There is a little bit of arrogance in him walking around the

:06:28. > :06:35.table. It's what you need. What's going through his head at the

:06:36. > :06:46.moment, Mark Selby? You never know with Mark. He's always thinking

:06:47. > :06:56.about something, he loves competing, number one in the world. He would

:06:57. > :07:05.have been in this position. A little sip of water for Mark Selby. He just

:07:06. > :07:11.has to keep doing what he's been doing, I guess. There's only one

:07:12. > :07:16.thing guaranteed in this, he's not going to give up, he never gives up,

:07:17. > :07:27.Selby. That's why he's such a good player. Everything he has got is

:07:28. > :07:31.very, very strong. Yan Bingtao could possibly see the finishing line

:07:32. > :07:37.creeping into sight. Got to hold onto things, keep yourself calm and

:07:38. > :07:45.steady. No evidence of winning games from behind. The young Chinese

:07:46. > :07:51.player hasn't been through much yet. He might be more confident because

:07:52. > :07:55.of his age. And his birthday. 17 today. Determined to celebrate in

:07:56. > :08:04.style with maybe a big win over Mark Selby. In the background we've got

:08:05. > :08:12.Hossain practising ahead of his match with Judd Trump. He's the only

:08:13. > :08:17.Iranians on tour. He's very well. He couldn't get a visa coming into the

:08:18. > :08:23.professional game but since he's coming he's had some very good wins.

:08:24. > :08:29.He is based at Sheffield, practising there. He's had some good results

:08:30. > :08:37.here. Trump is looking like Selby and Hawkins. Yan Bingtao kept Selby

:08:38. > :08:44.waiting ages but finally back in. Selby to break. Trailing 2-1.

:08:45. > :08:55.Yes, trailing 2-1. This frame is an important one. Mark Selby, point of

:08:56. > :09:03.no return if he doesn't win this frame. I think Yan Bingtao deserves

:09:04. > :09:15.to be 2-1 ahead the way he has played, making bigger breaks. 42,

:09:16. > :09:16.57, 63. Another great pot from Yan Bingtao. Certainly a confident

:09:17. > :09:36.player, no doubt about that. He played it as a shock for

:09:37. > :10:06.something. Anything but straight's OK. If it's

:10:07. > :10:35.straight he can't take this read on. It's just off straight.

:10:36. > :10:53.Superb clean pot from Yan Bingtao. He's just missed the blue. I think

:10:54. > :11:04.Mark Selby will be playing it. Close enough that it can be made. That

:11:05. > :11:14.will help Mark Selby free the black spot. A good way to start when you

:11:15. > :11:28.haven't potter Dave Ball for 25 minutes. Looks as though the black

:11:29. > :11:51.is tied up. It's not all bad. The blue is dead straight.

:11:52. > :12:00.Could only really leave himself a speculative read into this corner.

:12:01. > :12:07.On the side cushion for the blue. Great recovery pot and now he's in a

:12:08. > :12:18.great position. That was the shot of the match so far for Mark Selby. The

:12:19. > :12:22.red Dominic has been talking about, the one against the black. You might

:12:23. > :12:27.not be able to get on it this time unless he screws it's straight up

:12:28. > :12:33.the line of the yellow. It could finish right on top of the red. I'm

:12:34. > :12:53.talking about this on here, finished right on top of it. Amazing, isn't

:12:54. > :13:04.it? Definitely. He has missed this. He'll be disappointed, Mark Selby.

:13:05. > :13:09.He's left it on for his opponent. If Yan Bingtao can get a nice angle on

:13:10. > :13:11.the blue to get on that read by the blacks, there is a great chance to

:13:12. > :13:51.make a break. -- get on that red. Dense pack of reds are in a straight

:13:52. > :14:00.line. You just have a look. Is there another plant was he thinking about

:14:01. > :14:14.playing the pink off this thread? -- off this red? He did play for the

:14:15. > :14:24.pink and overhit it slightly. He can still put the pink. I'm not sure

:14:25. > :14:35.what's covered. Could be OK compared to the outside red. If he's not

:14:36. > :14:41.covered he may snigger himself. Terry's going to have to in Taute

:14:42. > :14:45.this pink, it'll have to go right in the middle of this pack of reds.

:14:46. > :15:02.This will be interesting. If it has to go directly behind the red -,

:15:03. > :15:16.lairy will be having kittens. This is awkward for Terry Camilleri.

:15:17. > :15:22.It's about time these referees were put under pressure, instead of us

:15:23. > :15:31.players all the time! Yes, he has done well here, hasn't he? Yan

:15:32. > :15:37.Bingtao will hopefully be nicely on this red in the left-hand corner.

:15:38. > :15:46.But once again, the pact is not great to go into. I hope he doesn't

:15:47. > :15:51.slip! He deserves a round of applause for what he has done there,

:15:52. > :15:57.the referee. Well played. Does he play for the blue? It is an easier

:15:58. > :16:05.pack to go into than it is from the black. He decided to play for the

:16:06. > :16:10.black. What was he trying to do their? If it had a kick, it would

:16:11. > :16:45.have finished higher on the black. To be honest, he couldn't have

:16:46. > :16:54.played that shot any better than he did. A great effort. He needed to go

:16:55. > :16:56.into that pack with more pace than needed. From where he was, that was

:16:57. > :17:11.all he could do. Yes, he was one shot away from

:17:12. > :17:15.making that a possible frame-winner. Mark Selby can either bring the pink

:17:16. > :18:16.interplay or just play a safety shot. -- interplay.

:18:17. > :18:28.There is a statistic you don't see very often. Mark Selby losing the

:18:29. > :18:35.safety battle so far. You don't see many players with a 93% safety

:18:36. > :19:04.statistic. That's very rare. Mark Selby has a choice of reds. I'm

:19:05. > :19:11.not too sure he is cueing well enough at the moment. If he plays

:19:12. > :19:12.the one on the left-hand side, he will have to play a lot of left-hand

:19:13. > :19:30.side to get back to the baulk area. That was unlucky. He will be forced

:19:31. > :19:36.into taking the blue navy can see it. The blue is virtually straight.

:19:37. > :20:04.You can see. A great pressure pot from Mark

:20:05. > :20:14.Selby. He will be looking on and -- for an angle on the blue to go into

:20:15. > :20:19.those six reds. He has missed the red. He will be disappointed. That

:20:20. > :20:21.was a chance to get back into this frame and win it. He is not happy

:20:22. > :20:59.with himself. The only red sticking out for Mark,

:21:00. > :21:04.he has to be a bit careful. The reds that he is going to hit back, he

:21:05. > :21:09.will push one over the left-hand pocket. Or towards the left-hand

:21:10. > :21:15.pocket, not necessarily over the pocket. He could do with this as

:21:16. > :21:19.thin as possible. He's just looking at what is go to happen to the

:21:20. > :21:23.middle red of the three below leaping. It will come somewhere

:21:24. > :21:31.within a foot of the left-hand pocket. -- below the pink. He has to

:21:32. > :21:55.make sure of a good white. Just playing a containing safety.

:21:56. > :22:01.These first three frames have been fairly lengthy. The initial frame

:22:02. > :22:09.lasted more than 30 minutes. This frame is a little quicker at 21. --

:22:10. > :22:14.the second frame a little quicker at 21. The third frame is more than 26

:22:15. > :23:27.minutes. A little fortunate to have left it

:23:28. > :23:50.hampered but it was still a very good safety shot.

:23:51. > :23:59.I'm quite surprised he is looking at potting this red. He knows it is the

:24:00. > :24:00.only red he could leave if he misses it. It is probably wise considering

:24:01. > :24:22.it. Even though he would like to bring

:24:23. > :24:31.those four reds interplay -- into play, you wouldn't want to be

:24:32. > :24:34.hitting the fourth red. That is very unlike Mark Selby. You could count

:24:35. > :25:05.on one hand the times he has played a safety shot like that.

:25:06. > :25:11.Yan Bingtao has an excellent chance of taking a 3-1 lead. A possible

:25:12. > :25:34.three to play. And that is where we will have to

:25:35. > :25:39.leave it, I'm afraid. We have reached the end of our coverage. We

:25:40. > :25:43.are back at seven for the start of the last 16. Who will be first to

:25:44. > :25:47.book their place in the quarter-finals? We will see you

:25:48. > :26:02.later. Goodbye for now. Every night, about 40 people find

:26:03. > :26:06.themselves sleeping rough
