:00:30. > :00:37.Good afternoon, everyone, time to find out who wants it the most. From

:00:38. > :00:41.128 players, we are down to eight, hoping to get their hands on the

:00:42. > :00:44.trophy on Sunday night. It is quarterfinal date at the Welsh Open

:00:45. > :00:51.and a line-up that very few would have predicted.

:00:52. > :00:56.First up, 19-year-old Rocky Zhou Yuelong against Scotland's Scott

:00:57. > :01:03.Donaldson. The Thai the round, world number four Judd Trump against world

:01:04. > :01:11.number eight Barry Hawkins. Former world champion Stuart Bingham versus

:01:12. > :01:18.world number 55 Stuart Carrington. And two men who have never won a

:01:19. > :01:21.ranking title, Robert Milkins against Norwegian Kurt Maflin. So

:01:22. > :01:26.who can make it into the weekend and the semifinals of the 2017 Welsh

:01:27. > :01:30.Open? Good afternoon, Willie Thorne. So many incredible shocks this year,

:01:31. > :01:35.what you make of this quarterfinal line-up, excited by it? We have got

:01:36. > :01:40.three regular tournament winners in Judd Trump, Stuart Bingham and Barry

:01:41. > :01:43.Hawkins the recent tournament winner and we now have five people with a

:01:44. > :01:49.chance to win their first major ranking. Every time somebody has

:01:50. > :01:52.knocked a great player out, they got beat in the next round so nobody has

:01:53. > :01:55.had consistency over a number of runs. You would favour the three

:01:56. > :02:01.tournament winners but I have a feeling somebody like Kurt Maflin or

:02:02. > :02:04.Carrington could get to the quarterfinal. You would look at

:02:05. > :02:10.Barry Hawkins and Judd Trump and Stuart Bingham and maybe it is time

:02:11. > :02:17.to back a dog horse. I know one of the friends of Stuart Carrington

:02:18. > :02:19.have had money on him at 250-1, and you would suggest somebody like

:02:20. > :02:26.Barry Hawkins is in the best form of his life, he won 4-0 the last two

:02:27. > :02:31.maroons and he will be so hard to beat. Judd Trump is ready to win

:02:32. > :02:35.another tournament but who knows, five Rockies with a chance to win

:02:36. > :02:39.their first major. When I said you excited by the line-up, E went,

:02:40. > :02:44.well... We lost O'Sullivan, no Welsh players survive, it makes it more

:02:45. > :02:50.intriguing but you lose the box office element. Players are not

:02:51. > :02:54.always recognised so people do not always want to watch but everybody

:02:55. > :02:57.here can play, they are regular century break players so it is

:02:58. > :03:03.important for people to realise it is not about the top 15 players in

:03:04. > :03:07.the world. Players down to 128, they are very good players. A chance for

:03:08. > :03:10.some body to make a name for themselves. Let's give you more

:03:11. > :03:15.information on our first 2/4-finalists.

:03:16. > :03:19.Zhou Yuelong is from China, just 90 years old and he turned professional

:03:20. > :03:23.three years ago, 40th in the world and he reached the quarterfinals of

:03:24. > :03:27.the Champion of Champions tournament but this is his best ever run at a

:03:28. > :03:30.ranking event. Donaldson, 22, from Perth in

:03:31. > :03:36.Scotland, he turned professional five years ago at 77 in the world, a

:03:37. > :03:39.former European amateur champion who made the last 16 of the Northern

:03:40. > :03:46.line and open earlier this season. This is his best run in Wales --

:03:47. > :03:51.Northern Ireland open. Who will be the first man to book a place in the

:03:52. > :03:56.semifinals? This game is already under way so let's bring the Right

:03:57. > :04:03.up to speed, this is frame one. Zhou Yuelong at the table, and no score.

:04:04. > :04:17.Yes, well, as we see, Zhou Yuelong missed this red. Remember him three

:04:18. > :04:25.or four years ago in the final of the world a better when he became

:04:26. > :04:30.world champion. To beat his fellow countrymen in the final. And also a

:04:31. > :04:34.couple of years ago, and remember watching Scott Donaldson winning the

:04:35. > :04:39.European amateur Championship. That is how he got his pro-tickets. Both

:04:40. > :04:42.players used to the big stage, albeit at amateur level. Both very

:04:43. > :05:22.capable. Yes, for Scott Donaldson, it is not

:05:23. > :05:32.that long ago really, it was 2012 when he won the European title. Zhou

:05:33. > :05:37.Yuelong, it was 230 -- it was 2013 when he won the world title. They

:05:38. > :05:42.have been professionals the four or five years, both players. And like

:05:43. > :05:49.Terry said, both in their first quarterfinal. It's great to see some

:05:50. > :06:01.youngsters coming through after all the oldies making such a come back

:06:02. > :06:04.this year. I have watched play -- I have watched Scott play quite a bit

:06:05. > :06:08.on the circuit and I keep thinking he should be doing better because he

:06:09. > :06:11.plays very strongly out there, he doesn't seem to be suffering with

:06:12. > :06:16.his temperament at all, he has put a lot of work into his game over the

:06:17. > :06:19.years. He's willing to travel to practise with other players, he's

:06:20. > :06:26.doing all the right things and he's getting some rewards now. He had a

:06:27. > :06:30.tough match in the first round. He beat Mark King, the winner of the

:06:31. > :06:36.Northern Ireland tournament before Christmas. But Jamie Roberts and was

:06:37. > :06:40.one of the good players on this circuit and Mark Davis who beat

:06:41. > :07:38.Ronnie O'Sullivan, so he has had a tremendous run.

:07:39. > :07:47.So this is a good word., Scott Donaldson. The longer he's at the

:07:48. > :07:56.table, the more he will settle down. Panic buttons today will not be

:07:57. > :08:02.going off as previously in this event. Today, they move into the

:08:03. > :08:11.best of nine matches so there's a little bit of leeway for error. It

:08:12. > :08:15.has been the first of four and everybody has been on edge, but at

:08:16. > :08:20.least they know after four frames today there will be an interval, and

:08:21. > :08:25.it is amazing what a difference that interval makes in the matches. They

:08:26. > :08:54.will just be playing a little more freely from the word go.

:08:55. > :09:06.Well, that is the first real awkward one. Just wobbled a little bit. The

:09:07. > :09:16.pace allowed it to go through and into the pocket. He's looking good.

:09:17. > :09:20.There are not many players carried their form from the outside tables

:09:21. > :09:25.here in Cardiff in the Welsh Open onto the match table, they do not

:09:26. > :09:33.get that much experience on these TV tables. You are absolutely right.

:09:34. > :09:36.And to be fair, normally in a quarterfinal, you would probably be

:09:37. > :09:41.expecting to play one of the big names, one of the big seeds.

:09:42. > :09:46.Obviously, they are playing on that match table virtually match in,

:09:47. > :09:51.match out. We have seen that this week really with Judd Trump. Every

:09:52. > :09:56.match he has played, he has played on the match table. When you are on

:09:57. > :10:02.the outside, you are not supposed to play any different, but they do. It

:10:03. > :10:08.was quite funny yesterday, one of the players came in, Craig Steadman,

:10:09. > :10:12.and he said there was a good three foot difference in the pace. It does

:10:13. > :10:44.not sound a lot, but it is when you are struggling to get position.

:10:45. > :10:54.Just checking the scoreboard, he will find he's 61 in front. But a

:10:55. > :10:59.good thing really to be looking at the situation at the moment. -- it

:11:00. > :11:06.is not a good thing. We have seen in these pressurised matches lots of

:11:07. > :11:11.players taking too much time on imported balls toward the end of a

:11:12. > :11:22.break and missing them. It goes something like, take your time here,

:11:23. > :11:30.don't miss this! Well, he has played a positive shot and he has had a

:11:31. > :11:37.kiss. He was unlucky there. He tried to deflect off those reds and Steve

:11:38. > :11:41.for the black and there would have been reds and that is all they

:11:42. > :11:51.needed, but now he has got some work to do. Normally, in these

:11:52. > :11:58.situations, he would try and hold on to his lead and put a pot one. Put a

:11:59. > :12:10.black dead weight into the centre pocket, that is not advisable. He

:12:11. > :12:17.will be tempted, though I'm a rest assured. Obviously, he needs the

:12:18. > :12:23.black and one more red to be 100% safe in this frame. I think the

:12:24. > :12:27.right shot is to try and get a colour safe, he does not need to

:12:28. > :12:39.chase, he's in the driving seat in this frame. What he cannot do is

:12:40. > :12:51.leave a part on for his opponent. -- a pot. He's a very good blog potter.

:12:52. > :13:05.-- long. He has covered that. The only problem is he did not put the

:13:06. > :13:08.green safe. That is going to cost him, that is not going to cost him

:13:09. > :13:12.the frame but it puts pressure on him knowing all the colours

:13:13. > :14:25.available, should he make a mistake. I think he committed more to the

:14:26. > :14:32.safety than to the pot side. It looks as if there's one red sticking

:14:33. > :14:38.out. On the right of those two. This is a big ask, he has got a stun to

:14:39. > :14:49.go down for the black or the pink. Good try. It could cost him the

:14:50. > :15:06.frame. That red looks as though it is quotable in the centre pocket.

:15:07. > :15:10.Yes, it is a thin shot, it is not guaranteed a pot. Lining up in the

:15:11. > :15:14.left corner, more pressure on the shot. He knows if this goes on, it

:15:15. > :15:19.will be the end of the frame, it should be nicely on the black. Never

:15:20. > :15:23.in doubt. Once this black goes on, it should be the end of this first

:15:24. > :16:30.frame and what a great start this has been by the young Scotsman.

:16:31. > :16:57.He's playing trick shots that, look! On the white, going for the blue.

:16:58. > :17:05.He looks very confident out there. You don't win the match in the first

:17:06. > :17:10.frame, but it does help if you get a good break in and you win it

:17:11. > :17:15.comfortable to keep your opponent on his chair wondering if he has got

:17:16. > :17:20.good form. It does not help your opponents to settle down. It is nice

:17:21. > :17:22.to play out there, but it is not nice to be sitting on the chair all

:17:23. > :17:47.the time. Scott lives in Scotland, I'm not

:17:48. > :17:55.sure where. In the Perth area. He missed the double, but that would be

:17:56. > :17:59.a very satisfying first frame for Scotland he's one in front.

:18:00. > :18:05.Pretty much the perfect start for Donaldson, let's take you into frame

:18:06. > :18:14.two. He's at the tail that he is at the table, trailing by 21.

:18:15. > :18:24.Well judged, that could have gone wrong. Playing off the cushion, that

:18:25. > :18:29.is all he could do, perfect. He would like to be closer to that the

:18:30. > :19:20.blue, but he can run it through and have that red into the corner.

:19:21. > :19:32.That was a really good pot. Very clean. And he has got a good angle

:19:33. > :19:38.on this pink. That was a difficult rest shot, he has made it look very

:19:39. > :19:47.easy. The pot here, playing with a lot of top. More of a stun shot than

:19:48. > :19:55.a top. Just a little bit low on the cue ball, you have to be a bit

:19:56. > :20:01.further up the top. That is the end of this little effort. Looking now

:20:02. > :20:05.to get a good safety in behind the yellow all the brown, he wants to be

:20:06. > :20:17.on that side of the table to cut off the escape. Easy escape from the

:20:18. > :20:30.green side. Very good. Saying that, he might just have gone into the

:20:31. > :20:35.right corner. Not easy. But faced with a difficult safety shot or a

:20:36. > :20:46.pot, most players would elect to take on the pot. Yes, he's normally

:20:47. > :20:52.very efficient in his long potting. But he has got a few things to think

:20:53. > :21:00.about, now he has missed them all I think, the long ones. No, he has got

:21:01. > :21:12.one out of three. 33%. So he's taking it on. Once again, he has

:21:13. > :21:20.caught it the thick, the long pots, he's hitting too much of the year

:21:21. > :21:27.Len macro rather than too little. -- he's hitting too much of the red. I

:21:28. > :21:32.would say that pot at the moment is probably at least 40% more difficult

:21:33. > :22:25.than it would be in another situation, when he's playing well.

:22:26. > :22:34.After missing a view, he has hit a good shot. The only problem is a

:22:35. > :22:44.chance to snooker behind the green, but he can't carry on with the

:22:45. > :22:49.break. Hello! For me, when you are nervous, there's always a chance of

:22:50. > :22:53.you doing that. You just need to hit it slightly harder than you normally

:22:54. > :22:58.would. You can see it looks a little bit tentative. Worse than that,

:22:59. > :23:14.Scott has got a 3-ball now, taking the yellow. Back in again. Perfect

:23:15. > :23:19.angle on the blue. At this moment in time, the game is looking very easy

:23:20. > :23:30.to Scotland very difficult to Zhou, that is how it is. Your mind plays

:23:31. > :23:36.very funny tricks on you out there. How tough is this young man from

:23:37. > :23:43.China? He has got a bit to do to get back into it and to get his

:23:44. > :23:49.confidence up. Scott looks as if he's practising with the club, he

:23:50. > :24:30.has got a temperament that is good, this lad.

:24:31. > :24:40.Potting this red, it should slide of the cluster. A cannon off the pink.

:24:41. > :24:45.If he feels he has got too much of an angle, you could see him playing

:24:46. > :24:52.with a lot of pace to drag back with the blue. It makes the shot a lot of

:24:53. > :24:56.more difficult, putting a lot of bottom on the cue ball and using the

:24:57. > :24:58.rest. It is whether he can run through off that pink and control it

:24:59. > :25:26.for the black. He played it very positively. He can

:25:27. > :25:33.still get through to this black. It is a big shot. And he knows in

:25:34. > :25:37.playing it, if he misses, the chances are he's going to leave an

:25:38. > :25:44.open table. The flip side, it if it goes in, it could be the end of the

:25:45. > :25:48.second frame. It would be really unfortunate if he makes the pot and

:25:49. > :26:00.does not get position here. Well, he has overcut it. What damage has he

:26:01. > :26:05.done? If that red goes to the right corner, major damage. If not and it

:26:06. > :26:14.is tight, very tight. I think it will go, just off the jaw. Never

:26:15. > :26:21.easy cutting back into a blind pocket. Yes, it is good to see him

:26:22. > :26:33.going for them. Scott is very positive and keeping that going.

:26:34. > :26:40.I expect a lot of players we have seen this week, in my opinion, when

:26:41. > :26:47.we watch them, they have come here not to lose. Their focus is on,

:26:48. > :26:54.don't lose. Winning and losing comms if your mind is good. They are all

:26:55. > :26:57.good players, they have all got form inside them somewhere. It is just

:26:58. > :28:51.they forget how good they are. This is the highest break so far, he

:28:52. > :28:57.has not had a lot of chances. He missed a few long pots to get in and

:28:58. > :29:07.he's normally used to making them. Take it from me, this guy is going

:29:08. > :29:12.to be very special. We have seen a lot of good players from China,

:29:13. > :29:42.think over here, this player is a winner, no doubt about it.

:29:43. > :29:50.I think he played for the pink, but he wanted to be a lot straighter

:29:51. > :29:56.than this. Instead of dropping into the centre, at he's going to play

:29:57. > :30:01.the more difficult black. It is very difficult because the pockets

:30:02. > :30:06.dropping so tight. Is this a fluke? No. It is never easy, but if he had

:30:07. > :30:14.been a foot behind that lack, just wrapping it in, they are that tight.

:30:15. > :30:21.Putting enough top spin on it to slide past the red, he took his eyes

:30:22. > :30:22.off the pot. He's gifted, young Scott Donaldson, a chance to pinch

:30:23. > :30:34.this frame. He is going to need a complete

:30:35. > :30:43.clearance. I would say this will be the shot. Black and yellow. He could

:30:44. > :30:48.play the more difficult pink into the centre which would guarantee him

:30:49. > :30:57.sliding past the blue. It is a much more difficult pot. He knows if it

:30:58. > :31:05.goes in the will be on this yellow. No problem. Knocked it in. As if he

:31:06. > :31:13.was playing down the local club. This will be a real body blow for

:31:14. > :31:20.Zhou. It will level the match up. One frame all. Starting to look very

:31:21. > :31:28.positive. I think he probably just picked the wrong shot selection.

:31:29. > :31:30.Playing for the black he should have got better on the paint and played

:31:31. > :31:50.the half Paul pink. It has been a confident performance

:31:51. > :31:56.from Donaldson. He missed the black early on in this frame to give his

:31:57. > :32:04.opponent a chance, but it wasn't an easy black and it was a good,

:32:05. > :32:13.positive shot that he'd gone. It looked like it might cost in this

:32:14. > :32:18.frame. He has got away with it. In those big black. Scott Donaldson

:32:19. > :32:26.will be feeling over the moon. She has a lot to think about now. He now

:32:27. > :32:31.trails 2-0. And it didn't stop there for Donaldson. He won the Tour de

:32:32. > :32:32.France as well. Let's spin forward into frame for with shoot at the

:32:33. > :34:48.table. No score. Excellent. I mentioned earlier that

:34:49. > :34:53.when you get in front in these important matches, it is the first

:34:54. > :35:00.quarterfinal with these two players, you start thinking about calling a

:35:01. > :35:08.little bit more defensive, a bit tighter, speaking your lead, but

:35:09. > :35:23.Scott is not doing that. He is doing very well. I have seen him play well

:35:24. > :35:32.on the tour quite a lot, but usually on the outside tables, which is a

:35:33. > :35:37.bit different. This is another challenge for these two young

:35:38. > :35:48.players and he is the only one who has stepped up to at the moment. The

:35:49. > :35:52.only thing in the young Mann's favour their is there will be the

:35:53. > :35:56.interval after this frame and he would like to win the frame and get

:35:57. > :36:08.something on his side of the scoreboard.

:36:09. > :36:18.Add 3-1 you will still feel you have a chance in the match, but at 4-0,

:36:19. > :36:27.you haven't totally written it off, but you'd need to take each frame as

:36:28. > :36:32.it comes and see what transpires. The way Scott Donaldson is playing,

:36:33. > :36:38.he will be wishing that he had no interval. He would be happy to carry

:36:39. > :36:45.on. Only 15 minutes, that interval. It is amazing how much of a

:36:46. > :36:56.difference it makes and, sometimes, a massive turnaround occurs within

:36:57. > :37:07.that 15 minutes. Sometimes one of the players disappears and goes

:37:08. > :37:12.home. They are so depressed. Add 4-0 he can still win, but decreases the

:37:13. > :37:18.odds are very heavily against him. If he can win a free, they call it

:37:19. > :37:24.the downward spiral when, all of a sudden, you are feeling comfortable

:37:25. > :37:28.and dominant and then your opponent starts to pick away at you. It is

:37:29. > :37:36.the worst pressure you can get in all sports. Losing any match when

:37:37. > :37:56.you are away in front is hard to get out of the mind. It has gone wrong

:37:57. > :38:01.there. Bit of a shake of the head. He is still doing all right. There

:38:02. > :38:10.might be a plant there. He has had a look at it. Just below the pink.

:38:11. > :38:43.There is a safe city as well, of course. He has got the safety.

:38:44. > :38:56.The game, Scott Donaldson is faced with a long shot. This left corner.

:38:57. > :39:02.He will have complete with a little bit of pace and hope he gets a

:39:03. > :39:06.double-kiss of the one red and try to fire the cue ball back up the

:39:07. > :39:11.table. He might even like to play a safety. If he does go for a safety

:39:12. > :39:17.shot he will have to cover the left-hand side of the table, get a

:39:18. > :39:34.good cue ball. It looks like he is lining up for the safety. Well, he

:39:35. > :39:45.will take that. He got a good cue ball, to be fair to him.

:39:46. > :39:54.She played a similar shot to the green and didn't quite get to it.

:39:55. > :39:59.Scott Donaldson has pledged to shot like that in this match and he has

:40:00. > :40:03.played them very well. He has moved the object ball a bit further. He is

:40:04. > :40:08.guaranteed the hit on the object ball. It is just unforgivable to be

:40:09. > :40:19.short. A big margin of air within the last

:40:20. > :40:38.shot. He is feeling out there. So far this has not been a good

:40:39. > :40:47.experience for him, his first quarterfinal at a major ranking

:40:48. > :40:54.event. Is it going to change? What is he, 19 years of age? He has got

:40:55. > :41:09.plenty of time. He has impressed on the circuit so far. Not today. He

:41:10. > :41:14.has been on that chair for a long time in this match. The only thing

:41:15. > :41:41.he is thinking is when I ever going to pass the ball.

:41:42. > :41:55.Not sure if he got a bad contact there. It was a bit sick. He is

:41:56. > :41:59.looking at a plant now. That was not his fault. Another big shot coming

:42:00. > :42:34.up. Well, you could hear that from the

:42:35. > :42:38.commentary box. Very sad to see this happening all the time the players,

:42:39. > :42:48.especially in such a desperate situation. Scott also had a kick on

:42:49. > :43:45.the red before. It doesn't make it any better, does it?

:43:46. > :43:53.He played the shot which, looking at his official expression, he

:43:54. > :44:04.definitely did. That was very well controlled. He has played very good,

:44:05. > :44:13.very confident, striking the ball with authority. Right away from the

:44:14. > :44:17.word go, he has come out of the blocks fancying the jaw that was

:44:18. > :44:39.ahead of the Day so far. He is doing a good jaw of it.

:44:40. > :44:45.He has got a nice angle there. Options on yellow and brown. The

:44:46. > :45:06.green is a little bit thin. Scott Donaldson has had 66% of the

:45:07. > :45:23.table time. That is large, to say the least. A bit unlucky. Of course,

:45:24. > :45:35.his opponent, 34%, sitting in the chair there in the depths of

:45:36. > :45:41.despair. You can go for the spread across the top cushion and played.

:45:42. > :45:49.We always like to play these with a little run inside to help the ball

:45:50. > :45:53.across the cushion. He might even try to do a slow drop for the pink,

:45:54. > :46:00.a much more difficult shot. That is what he has done. That was a big

:46:01. > :46:05.risk in the way he has played. I thought he was going down for a full

:46:06. > :46:13.colour. There was no value there. That is a tough shot. I think he

:46:14. > :46:29.knows he made the wrong choice there. Never offer a drowning Mann

:46:30. > :46:30.minstrel. It could turn it here. It looks impossible, but you never

:46:31. > :47:36.know. Why give him the chance? They confidently played shot. He

:47:37. > :47:41.could have done with catching the red slightly thinner. It safely. He

:47:42. > :47:50.needs now to get in behind the yellow. That is not his best one. He

:47:51. > :47:55.has given a half ball shot from nothing factory Scott. -- back

:47:56. > :48:16.Touche cup. Another good pot. He is in control

:48:17. > :48:38.and he is going to stay there. Brown was available down in the

:48:39. > :48:43.corner that he has definitely made the right shot. When you have got

:48:44. > :48:49.the domination that he has had in this match so far, he has got to

:48:50. > :48:50.take into account, Scott Donaldson, what his shot selection should be at

:48:51. > :49:12.this stage. He has been unlucky. She has not had

:49:13. > :49:29.the best of luck. We have got to ask the question, as he earned good

:49:30. > :49:36.luck? I agree. This is a thin shot. He knew he was going to go close.

:49:37. > :49:43.Now he has given the four points away, the game is still on. It will

:49:44. > :49:53.be a free ball. Are we going to see another turn? It is a turn should

:49:54. > :49:57.really needs. In an ideal world he wants to leave himself a half turn

:49:58. > :50:08.on the brown to play in behind the red or move the red. It is

:50:09. > :50:14.imperative to get an ankle on the brown and make the pot. The brown is

:50:15. > :50:18.in. Now, if the red goes to the middle, I cannot imagine he will

:50:19. > :50:23.play for perfect position, he will try to remove the blue and the red.

:50:24. > :50:34.If this goes right, he could be in business. He has missed the cannon.

:50:35. > :50:39.What is worse, I think the pink will snooker itself. It is all going

:50:40. > :50:41.wrong. He will be very disappointed with that last shot. It was very

:50:42. > :50:57.badly executed. The brown is a fraction thinner than

:50:58. > :51:02.he wanted. He wanted more angle deflecting the cue ball toward that

:51:03. > :51:09.blue and red. He has brought deeply into play. Yellow and black is still

:51:10. > :51:11.difficult, but Scott knocked one of these in earlier on. Clean as a

:51:12. > :53:47.whistle. He is having a little luck. His

:53:48. > :54:01.sister D has been very good, Scott Donaldson, today. That is a very

:54:02. > :54:14.clever shop there as well. Very good indeed.

:54:15. > :54:22.I think right across the board, everything is a lot less. He has

:54:23. > :54:31.just got there at that time. A very well played shot. He has been short

:54:32. > :54:33.on quite a few occasions. Still everything to play for in this

:54:34. > :55:23.fourth frame. At that angle, there is a bit more

:55:24. > :55:28.risk than if he was cutting it the other way. If the red was to the

:55:29. > :55:40.rate he could drop it in and not leave it on if he missed it. I think

:55:41. > :55:51.he played the right shot them, but didn't play as well as he should

:55:52. > :55:55.have done. He has been dominant, Scott Donaldson, he has been taken

:55:56. > :56:04.on just about everything and getting most of them. He is doing the right

:56:05. > :56:13.thing. Is he starting to try to hang onto his league? There is an

:56:14. > :56:19.argument that he could have just dropped the red into the centre. Any

:56:20. > :56:24.colour would be safe in this fourth frame. Wasn't easy, as you said,

:56:25. > :56:30.that he might not get another chance as easy as that, or as difficult as

:56:31. > :56:34.that. Still cant blame him for the way he is playing, but it does look

:56:35. > :56:41.as if he is playing to protect his lead in this frame. In the area of

:56:42. > :56:50.friends, Zhou has played just attack and win outright. Again, a very good

:56:51. > :56:51.shot. It just needs to travel a little bit. That is a perfect

:56:52. > :57:06.result. He is having a little luckier. He

:57:07. > :58:38.can get to the edge of this red. That is a bit better. He played to

:58:39. > :58:47.get behind the pink stuff the one thing you have got to do with safety

:58:48. > :59:01.is get the object policies. -- object ball safe. Where is that red

:59:02. > :59:07.glowing? Hello. Well, well. Didn't play that, of course, but he might

:59:08. > :59:11.have, I don't know. It is unlikely. I think he played it up and down to

:59:12. > :59:28.hit the bottom cushion and cool on the side cushion. It is OK.

:59:29. > :59:41.Well, it is available, but it is very thin. It is it more difficult

:59:42. > :59:54.shot, but if he could play the red up and down, it will swing in behind

:59:55. > :00:06.the blue. On the other way, he has probably picked the right shot.

:00:07. > :00:54.We had a 34 minutes frame in the previous frame. 28 minutes here, you

:00:55. > :00:55.would not expect it with these two. They are both aggressive, quick

:00:56. > :01:16.players, quick break-builders. Most of the time here, there has

:01:17. > :01:27.been times when in snooker you miss a pot, the ball stops where it wants

:01:28. > :01:39.to, it is no choice for you. Good safety about here from both players

:01:40. > :01:44.so far. That is nasty. I could not see through that green and pink

:01:45. > :01:50.without a set of binoculars on, to be honest. I think he can get

:01:51. > :01:55.through. Where is the red going? Needs to go tight on that cushion.

:01:56. > :03:47.Could have been worse. That is the first safety shot for a

:03:48. > :03:59.while and Scott Donaldson has it short. He has been in total control

:04:00. > :04:07.of the safety shots. It shows you on two different days, two different

:04:08. > :04:14.matches. Playing long, he likes that sort of shot. He has refused it and

:04:15. > :04:17.played a very good safety. Very important for this young man to get

:04:18. > :04:24.this frame on the board before the mid-session interval. 3-1, still in

:04:25. > :04:30.the match. 4-0, you would have to say probably this year's

:04:31. > :04:43.Championship is going to slip by for him. You still have a chance, but it

:04:44. > :04:47.would be very unlikely. How is this cue ball going now? That could be a

:04:48. > :04:54.free ball, as it slows down, or I should say speed up. I think you can

:04:55. > :04:55.just get through. So no free ball, he's electing to put the cue ball

:04:56. > :05:31.back. He corrected the position, he struck

:05:32. > :05:35.the cushion to hit the red that he would have liked this red to come

:05:36. > :05:40.towards the pink and black behind there. He's looking now at bringing

:05:41. > :05:46.the black into play. He's of course 22 points down, Zhou Yuelong. So

:05:47. > :06:06.there could be some value in it. He played for the pink, he looks to

:06:07. > :06:19.have a good angle. His problem now is trying to get onto that yellow,

:06:20. > :06:26.that is tough along those cushions. This young lad has no fear. He

:06:27. > :06:33.thinks this is an easy one. If he can, I would advise him to go behind

:06:34. > :06:46.the brown, is he going for the yellow? That was an easy shot. Very

:06:47. > :06:57.good. Very good. Yes, and in the context of this match, that could be

:06:58. > :07:02.massive. Well, he has not got into that green at all fair, two foot

:07:03. > :07:07.short of the cue ball. It looks like he did not go to the bottom of the

:07:08. > :07:15.cue ball, I don't quite know what he has done but he certainly didn't go

:07:16. > :07:20.through it. He's not going to pot Rhys brown from here, it could be

:07:21. > :07:25.the brown up and down, white behind the blue, but back in the frame

:07:26. > :07:30.already at 35 minutes and counting. The longest frame of the match.

:07:31. > :07:47.These two, normally very quick players.

:07:48. > :07:55.And he may be able to swerve that what he's so close to the blue, it

:07:56. > :08:02.may be difficult. From the point of view of Zhou Yuelong, he has brought

:08:03. > :08:08.the brown away from the cushion because it is easier to snooker than

:08:09. > :08:15.it was away from the cushion, it seems like a bigger target. And of

:08:16. > :08:20.course, if he misses the brown, and he leads it and coming he has got

:08:21. > :08:21.the swerve on. He played it quite fall which did not take the brown on

:08:22. > :08:37.the other side of the table. When you watch this now, watch this

:08:38. > :08:41.brown, the spin is still on the cue ball, on the brown ball, spinning

:08:42. > :08:57.around, going up the table. The side transferred off the cue ball.

:08:58. > :09:05.That is well spotted, Darren. Obviously, with the swerve, it is

:09:06. > :09:11.the extreme amount of spin that he put on the ball, but it doesn't

:09:12. > :09:34.always retain it. He has put a lot on that to turn it round.

:09:35. > :09:41.Understandable that he missed that, he has not potted a ball for 21

:09:42. > :09:53.minutes now. Although he's 3-0 in front. It just won't go in. Quite a

:09:54. > :10:04.difference in points here between the two players. Scott Donaldson

:10:05. > :10:06.dominated, 226 points. 136 from Zhou Yuelong, that just about sums it up

:10:07. > :11:35.in this first session. Well, they were going in earlier on.

:11:36. > :11:41.Obviously a lot of pressure out there now, Scott Donaldson knows he

:11:42. > :11:47.should be in the interval. 4-0 up at this time, this is probably a bigger

:11:48. > :11:58.brain for him, in some respects, than it is for Yuelong. It is good

:11:59. > :12:02.to see, though. It is good to see two young players... And he has

:12:03. > :12:08.missed that by quite a way! This round is turning into being quite

:12:09. > :12:25.elusive for both players. -- this brown.

:12:26. > :12:41.Good pot. 14 in front. Is he going to take this 11? He could win the

:12:42. > :13:26.frame. -- is he going to take on this double?.

:13:27. > :14:00.Zhou Yuelong will be very relieved at that blue, that it has stopped

:14:01. > :14:05.where it has. A couple more inches and I think we would have seen young

:14:06. > :14:14.Scott Donaldson having a go at that blue. As it is, he just has to play

:14:15. > :14:22.a good safety. And that's not the best he has ever hit and that blue

:14:23. > :14:27.has gone close to the middle. So this is probably the last chance in

:14:28. > :14:33.this fourth frame for Yuelong. What a massive turning point this could

:14:34. > :14:48.be in this match. 3-1, 4-0 now. It is huge. He's not going to pot pink

:14:49. > :14:54.and black from here. That was not a very walls -- that was not a very

:14:55. > :14:58.well struck ball at all, I think he's struggling with his confidence

:14:59. > :15:09.a little bit. That should have been so far away from that corner pocket.

:15:10. > :15:13.He might make the pink. No. And it is going to be very disappointing

:15:14. > :15:30.for him. I think he's resigned to the fact that today, maybe, is not

:15:31. > :15:35.his day. And Scott Donaldson, he needs that cue ball to slow down. It

:15:36. > :15:40.is very close to that corner pocket. It doesn't go down the pocket so

:15:41. > :15:44.very relieved, and Zhou Yuelong has got a lot think about in the

:15:45. > :15:49.mid-session interval, Scott Donaldson, leading 4-0.

:15:50. > :15:57.Not looking happy but Scott Donaldson 4-0 in the front and they

:15:58. > :16:01.are on an interval is we will rejoin them. Welcome to our coverage,

:16:02. > :16:07.Willie Thorne is our guest today. Donaldson did not look happy going

:16:08. > :16:11.out but he's 4-0 up. The best two frames dominated and Hubert is to be

:16:12. > :16:16.the only player playing, the third could have gone either way and the

:16:17. > :16:20.third frame, he potted a game ball and he's trying not to lose that

:16:21. > :16:29.rather than to win it and he was lucky to win it. Because that could

:16:30. > :16:33.have been a big turning point. 3-1 is huge in four frames. Scott is one

:16:34. > :16:37.frame away from his first major semifinal and I have been

:16:38. > :16:40.disappointed with Yuelong because he's a good player, a good

:16:41. > :16:46.break-builder and he won the world team event in China recently. As

:16:47. > :16:51.Terry mentioned, he's a player for the future. But from what he has

:16:52. > :16:54.shown so far, you would not think it. Terry said he would be a big

:16:55. > :16:59.star in the future, how'd you explain what happened? He beats Lee

:17:00. > :17:02.Walker yesterday convincingly. I think he thought this was his great

:17:03. > :17:08.chance to get to a semifinal and maybe a final and he thought he was

:17:09. > :17:12.playing Scott Donaldson, and maybe it is 50-50 and maybe the occasion

:17:13. > :17:16.got too much for him at this moment. If he wins the first two frames,

:17:17. > :17:21.there could be a come back, but it is very unlikely a player will come

:17:22. > :17:26.back from 4-0 behind to win. We have seen both of them in the practice

:17:27. > :17:31.area, what will be going to Donaldson's mind? Scott went through

:17:32. > :17:35.20 odd minutes without scoring a point in that last frame and what

:17:36. > :17:38.happens when you have fallen in France, in the last frame, he

:17:39. > :17:43.thought he was lucky to win it and let's get my cue going again. In the

:17:44. > :17:47.first two frames, he played lovely. Let's remind you of the quarterfinal

:17:48. > :17:54.draw, we have a big one after this match. Donaldson leading Zhou

:17:55. > :17:58.Yuelong 4-0 and then two of the biggest names left in the draw. Judd

:17:59. > :18:05.Trump, the world four, coming up against the world number eight Barry

:18:06. > :18:08.Hawkins. This is the other half, Stuart Bingham, former world

:18:09. > :18:15.champion and world number two, a game Stuart Carrington, and Robert

:18:16. > :18:20.Milkins against Kurt Maflin, neither of whom have won a world ranking

:18:21. > :18:25.title but you think Kurt Maflin is destined to win soon. I'm a big fan

:18:26. > :18:29.of Kurt Maflin, because he's a good scorer. He does not have the

:18:30. > :18:32.experience of the latter stages of the tournament so safety play not as

:18:33. > :18:38.good as the top players. Five players of the eight remaining will

:18:39. > :18:42.have a chance of winning their first world ranking tournament. We had

:18:43. > :18:47.Hamilton and Mark King winning. That gave everybody a thrill thinking,

:18:48. > :18:50.maybe I could win a tournament and they will not get better chances

:18:51. > :18:55.than this and we still have three of the best players in the world left

:18:56. > :19:00.in the tournament. That is Judd Trump against Barry Hawkins. Final

:19:01. > :19:05.thought? One frame for Donaldson and he's in a semifinal of a ranking

:19:06. > :19:08.event. Without doubt, it is his to lose, I think Scott Donaldson will

:19:09. > :19:13.win this match and I'm really looking forward to the second match.

:19:14. > :19:18.Let's see if Donaldson can play out for the match. Remember, it is the

:19:19. > :19:24.best of nine so the first to 5 wins it and this is Donaldson with that

:19:25. > :19:28.4-0 lead. Let's rejoin Terry Griffiths and Darren Morgan, our

:19:29. > :19:34.commentary team. There's nobody up there, they have taken a break! We

:19:35. > :19:39.will carry on talking. What does Zhou have to do to get back into the

:19:40. > :19:44.game? As you rightly say, Zhou had to go to the practice room and he

:19:45. > :19:48.has been kept off the table for the first two frames and should have won

:19:49. > :19:55.that last frame and Scott Donaldson in fairness almost gave him a

:19:56. > :19:59.lifeline. Zhou Yuelong really has to take the ball by the horns and go

:20:00. > :20:02.for everything. Terry and Darren Robison exhausted, just having a cup

:20:03. > :20:12.of tea, over to you guys, OK? Thank you very much! It was a great

:20:13. > :20:18.cup of tea, a little bit quicker than we thought, we were running up

:20:19. > :20:23.the stairs, out of breath. Terry is all right, he's fit as a fiddle. It

:20:24. > :20:29.is me that is the problem. I'm sure Scott Donaldson enjoyed his

:20:30. > :20:34.mid-session interval more than Zhou Yuelong. That was a quick return,

:20:35. > :20:38.that is what he says. Donaldson starting off where he finished. Just

:20:39. > :22:21.before the interval. Great long red. They're not on this red than he

:22:22. > :22:25.would have liked. The positive side is if he makes the pot and he gets

:22:26. > :22:30.on the black, he will be disturbing the reds. Look at the one of the

:22:31. > :22:35.right centre, he has been positive all match and you would like to stay

:22:36. > :22:36.him like that. If this goes right, it could be the frame and

:22:37. > :22:59.matchwinner. Well, he just flipped off big red,

:23:00. > :23:02.rather than punching into them and opening them out and staying on to

:23:03. > :23:11.the black. He did not have the angle for that shot. The problem is the

:23:12. > :23:19.black is not the easiest of the pots. You cannot put much spin on

:23:20. > :23:32.because you get close to that side cushion. Very good.

:23:33. > :23:45.I don't know what he played for, but that red goes to the extreme right,

:23:46. > :23:50.but it doesn't go into this corner pocket. I'm not quite sure what he

:23:51. > :23:55.played for. Surely he did not think he could hold it for the red to the

:23:56. > :24:01.left centre. There was no way that was ever going to happen. He still

:24:02. > :24:02.has a shot at this red. Thinner than he would have liked, it might be a

:24:03. > :24:18.safety. A good cue ball. He can get through

:24:19. > :24:25.to this red at the left corner. Horrible shots to be faced with, 4-0

:24:26. > :24:38.down. We have already said he's normally a great long potter. Just

:24:39. > :24:43.has not been his day today. I think he's OK with the red to the left

:24:44. > :24:50.centre, but he has left the red to the green pocket. It is whether

:24:51. > :24:57.Scott feels there's any value in taking that on, or continuing to

:24:58. > :25:06.keep things tight. This red is on to the middle but it is a very acute

:25:07. > :25:08.angle. That is why he's played safe. You cannot blame him, he's in total

:25:09. > :26:28.control in this match. Darren was talking earlier in

:26:29. > :26:36.commentary about what happens in the intervals. It turns the matches

:26:37. > :26:42.round sometimes, not always, of course. I'm more fascinated in what

:26:43. > :26:46.Scott Donaldson is thinking now, the balance of his shot selection seems

:26:47. > :26:50.to have changed a little bit in that fourth frame. You are so aggressive

:26:51. > :26:55.early on and you get into these situations that it is a very fine

:26:56. > :27:02.line, to be honest, there's no such thing as picking the right shot all

:27:03. > :27:05.the time. Even if you take the wrong shot and make it and you are

:27:06. > :27:11.successful, it is the right shot. It is your choice and you have to stand

:27:12. > :27:13.by it. It is one of the nice things about playing this game of snooker,

:27:14. > :28:46.nobody can tell you what to do. Well, he has got to be positive.

:28:47. > :28:55.There's that fine line always, should you have gone for it or not?

:28:56. > :29:00.That is his style of play, but when he's giving an inform opponent and

:29:01. > :29:01.opening, you have got to look back and think, can I learn from that for

:29:02. > :29:22.the next time? Very straight on this red. Safety

:29:23. > :29:28.screw. That is a bottom, just hold the cue straight back. And he could

:29:29. > :29:33.have done with another four inches on that cue ball, a bit short on

:29:34. > :29:38.this blue. He can drag back six inches and still have the red to the

:29:39. > :29:42.back corner, he would have loved to be playing down towards these three

:29:43. > :29:51.reds. Obviously, he's a lot of further away and that is for this

:29:52. > :29:54.neck shot, the further away, the harder the shots get. He's played

:29:55. > :30:07.with a lot of conviction in this match. He has delivered the cue very

:30:08. > :30:10.well. He has got a nice crisp noise while striking the ball is, that is

:30:11. > :31:16.always a sign of good cueing. That cue ball flew above the side

:31:17. > :31:28.cushion. It came of their much quicker than it went on. It came off

:31:29. > :31:38.very quick. He is in the driving seat. He doesn't need to take any

:31:39. > :31:45.undue risks. That is for his opponent to do. Somehow, Zhou has

:31:46. > :31:52.got to find a way back into this frame and into this match. In this

:31:53. > :31:59.moment in time, you cannot see that happening. It has been a frustrating

:32:00. > :32:25.afternoon for the young lad. The red zone, but black is tight. It

:32:26. > :32:38.looks pink is on side cushion. -- the red is on. When you are 46 or 45

:32:39. > :32:47.behind, the colours are not available. You feel like you have a

:32:48. > :32:56.mountain to climb. He has overhead that McCain. It is difficult to tell

:32:57. > :33:08.how fast the plots are in comparison to the outside tables.

:33:09. > :33:23.Very positive shot. He is on the green. It will take some shot to get

:33:24. > :33:26.down to the reds. It is not the easiest pot in the world and he has

:33:27. > :33:28.got to put a lot of peers in it. This cuts down his chances of the

:33:29. > :34:39.pocket taking the ball. The tricky brown. No problems. That

:34:40. > :34:45.little flick of the blue has helped them on this occasion. He is a lot

:34:46. > :34:52.closer to the corner pocket without the flag. Still a lot of work to do.

:34:53. > :35:24.He is cutting his deficit down. I am surprised that he played bad

:35:25. > :35:26.one. He thought he was going to get a cannon on the black with the two

:35:27. > :35:56.reds. Those shots are so important. You

:35:57. > :36:00.can call them apart and safety. You are taking into account. Even

:36:01. > :36:07.without a collar to pot, you can start to roll into something. Put

:36:08. > :36:26.your opponent in an awkward position and with for another chance.

:36:27. > :36:36.He knew he had the baulk colours to cover the red. It has come just too

:36:37. > :36:45.far over. You can see his hand is much closer than it usually is on

:36:46. > :36:47.the table. Couldn't have done better than that, really. He would take the

:36:48. > :37:45.whole day. -- take that all day. He has got to be careful, Scott

:37:46. > :37:50.Donaldson, with this safety shot. The cue ball had travelled the four

:37:51. > :38:02.or five inches, he would have a pot on this red nearest the black. He

:38:03. > :38:11.has got to be careful he doesn't push the red over the corner and he

:38:12. > :38:24.gets a good here. He has played that about as good as he could have. He

:38:25. > :38:28.has given a shot to nothing. Things haven't gone his way in this match

:38:29. > :38:48.so far, Yuelong. This is a big ask. The problem with that is, it is the

:38:49. > :38:55.same for everyone. The more mistakes you make, the more they hurt you.

:38:56. > :38:58.The first one hurts, Yuelong has missed a lot of pots here in this

:38:59. > :39:06.match. He is really struggling out there now. I think the crowd loved

:39:07. > :39:13.him to find something and when this frame. Nobody likes an easy victory

:39:14. > :39:23.for one of the players. A pot from the player, of course. Just a safety

:39:24. > :39:24.shot therefrom Scott. He is playing it very tight now. Not a bad thing

:39:25. > :40:12.at all. He would like to play this tuple up

:40:13. > :40:24.to the right-hand side of the table behind the green and brown area. I

:40:25. > :40:35.am not sure if he can get there. It has worked out OK. It is not too

:40:36. > :40:37.encouraging for Yuelong when he sees the pink and yellow on the side

:40:38. > :40:55.cushion. 32 behind. He should be thinking to himself,

:40:56. > :41:05.how good would it be if I want from this situation? Make no doubt, your

:41:06. > :41:14.opponent will start to struggle when you come back at them. They think

:41:15. > :41:19.they are giving things away to you, which isn't usually the case. At the

:41:20. > :41:49.moment, Yuelong is second best by quite a long way.

:41:50. > :41:58.I wouldn't have played the shot quite like that. He meant to cover

:41:59. > :42:03.the red is just below the back. He could play this at pace and try to

:42:04. > :42:07.move the other reds as well. It is a big shot. It would give him a chance

:42:08. > :42:17.in this frame would lose him the match. That is what he has played.

:42:18. > :42:24.He needs that cue ball to slow down. That is very unlucky. Played the

:42:25. > :42:26.positive shot on the red, just needed to hit the two red fuller in

:42:27. > :42:54.the face. I think he should be playing the

:42:55. > :43:05.brown into the pink to take it into play. Get the cue ball safe on the

:43:06. > :43:09.bottom cushion. Yellow and pink will be tough if he is going to win this

:43:10. > :44:51.frame. He is 31 points behind. A very well found escape. Then we

:44:52. > :44:58.have fellow professional on the tour for many years, Wayne Jones, still

:44:59. > :45:10.place in the local league. I remember him looking -- losing a

:45:11. > :45:16.final two Doug Mountjoy after taking up coaching with Frank Allen.

:45:17. > :45:25.Doesn't change over the years. A very good player in his time. That

:45:26. > :45:32.wasn't a good place to go and play when you were an amateur. This name

:45:33. > :45:43.was there. And when Lloyd has passed away. Great players played there. He

:45:44. > :47:30.needs a bit of luck and he has got it.

:47:31. > :47:41.Well, that was a big shock to click on. He did not get the run of the

:47:42. > :48:10.balls. Scott Donaldson has a good chance. He is 27 points in front.

:48:11. > :48:24.That takes up to 33 in front. Just this last red. That would be an

:48:25. > :48:26.excellent win for Scott, should he potted. Nobody expected a 5-0

:48:27. > :49:16.results between these two young men. He is safe here, so a pot from

:49:17. > :49:37.Snickers, he will be proud of the Welsh Open this year.

:49:38. > :49:47.Very much a contrast in performances in this match. It generally is that

:49:48. > :49:52.5-0. I don't think anyone could put their hand on their heart and say

:49:53. > :49:57.that Yuelong has been unlucky, because he just has not found his

:49:58. > :49:59.best form, nowhere near it. Scott Donaldson put a lot of pressure on

:50:00. > :50:43.him early on. Not quite sure why he played that,

:50:44. > :50:51.but he has been playing the better shots for most of this match. And

:50:52. > :50:57.that is enough. Yuelong did not release show his best form. Scott

:50:58. > :51:00.Donaldson played as well as he could have hoped for. He is punching the

:51:01. > :51:10.air with his fist and quite rightly. Well done, sir. So, we have our

:51:11. > :51:13.first semifinalist here at the 20 17th of March open. Scott Donaldson

:51:14. > :51:20.through to the last four and erecting title for the first time.

:51:21. > :51:24.It just didn't happen for Zhou. That was an exceptional performance from

:51:25. > :51:28.Donaldson. It has been the exception. He has compiled in a lot

:51:29. > :51:36.of first rounds this year. He was never under pressure. He will be

:51:37. > :51:42.disappointed, delighted with the score, but disappointed he didn't

:51:43. > :51:47.score more heavily. He will need to score more heavily in the

:51:48. > :51:51.semifinals. He has been battling on for eight years, this was his big

:51:52. > :51:55.chance. The drawers were favourable for him and he took his chance with

:51:56. > :52:00.both hands. He deserves his place in the semifinals. A big moment in the

:52:01. > :52:08.spotlight for him. He could have played even better. Absolutely. The

:52:09. > :52:13.key thing is the money. They need ?30,000 or so to play on the

:52:14. > :52:18.circuit. If you don't get to the semifinals you are almost gone

:52:19. > :52:27.bankrupt. We can hear from Scott Donaldson. What a week. You just get

:52:28. > :52:32.better and better. I don't know if I get better, but I am happy to win a

:52:33. > :52:38.game. It wasn't always pretty but you just have to do the jaw

:52:39. > :52:47.sometimes. During introductions you looked fairly composed. Really? I

:52:48. > :52:51.was very nervous. Before the week began, if someone said to you, you

:52:52. > :52:58.will make at least the semifinals, which you have left them? Don't be

:52:59. > :53:03.stupid. I am realistic. I just try to win my first match and go on from

:53:04. > :53:10.there. I am so happy. What has changed for you? I can't pinpoint

:53:11. > :53:15.that. Maybe you guys can analyse the game. I am just trying my best and

:53:16. > :53:22.lucky to get the five first. I spoke to you earlier to clarify whether

:53:23. > :53:29.your mum or dad or hear and he said no because it would be bad luck.

:53:30. > :53:36.Will you keep flying solo? Yes, solo. They will be watching Baikal.

:53:37. > :53:47.And a preference, Judd or Barry? No, I will just enjoy it. The Reading

:53:48. > :53:53.semifinalist, see you tomorrow. Relieved in the end to go through,

:53:54. > :53:55.to get over the line. It is interesting to see how superstitious

:53:56. > :54:07.players are, he didn't want his mum and dad to come down. If you are

:54:08. > :54:12.going to be a professional, you have got to think you can win

:54:13. > :54:18.tournaments. It is not good enough to win one or two rounds, he needs

:54:19. > :54:22.to be more positive. He is good enough. Did Zhou black positivity

:54:23. > :54:28.today? He didn't seem to think he would make the semis. Ahmed in

:54:29. > :54:33.favourite before the game started because he scores heavily. He was

:54:34. > :54:37.like a fish out of today. Probably both players were so excited, the

:54:38. > :54:40.fact they could get to the semifinals, possibly the final and

:54:41. > :54:46.both players were overawed by the location. The first Mann into the

:54:47. > :54:53.semifinals is Scott Donaldson. Well done to him. Coming up shortly we

:54:54. > :54:55.have two men who many would regard as tournament favourites. Judd Trump

:54:56. > :55:00.up against Barry Hawkins. Let's remind you how Trump made his way

:55:01. > :55:04.into the quarterfinals. He met the only Iranian on the circuit. That

:55:05. > :56:07.join with Trump, 2-1 up. Probing and pushing for a mistake.

:56:08. > :56:35.At last it comes. Not from Judd Trump.

:56:36. > :56:43.42 behind, but more than enough to take the frame. The red look well

:56:44. > :56:48.spread. It would just come Judd Trump down a little in this match.

:56:49. > :57:01.Obviously not panicking yet, he leads to- one, but two breaks, 31 in

:57:02. > :57:13.the first and 56 in the second. The few minutes just asserting himself

:57:14. > :57:17.on this match. Seemingly effortless break would just settle down here.

:57:18. > :58:19.Of course, potting him within one of the win.

:58:20. > :58:27.The black looks as if it could go into the left corner. That was too

:58:28. > :58:36.thin and once again he doesn't have the case right. The cue ball running

:58:37. > :58:51.around the table, steaming as it goes.

:58:52. > :59:06.He is lucky his arm didn't fall off when he did that. He did it so hard.

:59:07. > :59:17.The good shot though. He just cant get the right position.

:59:18. > :59:25.It must be so difficult for jaw and that, he must be wondering what is

:59:26. > :59:35.happening? He is usually so efficient on the balls. 56 was OK,

:59:36. > :59:52.but it wasn't great. Since the first frame he has not looked 100%.

:59:53. > :00:18.That was very noticeable. He is five behind now. I think it is OK.

:00:19. > :00:28.He's straight on the blue, he has still got the pink. He will be

:00:29. > :00:32.screwing off the side and bottom cushion. A fraction short, but still

:00:33. > :01:00.a very good positional shot. Still not in a good position. He's

:01:01. > :01:07.in between everything. The reds -- the red only goes into the left

:01:08. > :01:16.corner pocket so you can't play the blue and get on it, surely, even

:01:17. > :01:29.with this power. Or can he? It is a miracle! That is what makes him

:01:30. > :02:26.special. These shots that others don't even see.

:02:27. > :02:39.And Hossein requires snookers. His expression gives away his

:02:40. > :02:44.frustration. This has been an excellent clearance from Judd Trump,

:02:45. > :02:49.he has had to work hard for it and produce some good shots. His best

:02:50. > :02:53.break of the match so far and he's within one of the winning line and a

:02:54. > :03:00.place in the Welsh Open quarterfinals.

:03:01. > :03:09.Yes, in great form throughout this tournament, Jackson Page, he knocked

:03:10. > :03:12.out Welsh wild card Jackson Page earlier yesterday and Vafaei unable

:03:13. > :03:18.to stop the world number four winning convincingly. It break of 72

:03:19. > :03:22.to see off Vafaei, the first Iranian professional on the circuit, one for

:03:23. > :03:28.the future perhaps. Somebody to keep an eye on. Next

:03:29. > :03:33.would Judd Trump, it is Barry Hawkins, the world number eight.

:03:34. > :03:39.Look at the difference, six world tanking tri- tolls for Judd Trump,

:03:40. > :03:43.Hawkins closing in on three, both semifinalists in the past, Jackson

:03:44. > :03:54.Page in 2013, twice for Hawkins, Barry Hawkins edging the career

:03:55. > :03:59.head-to-head. So let's hear from the two men about to contest the second

:04:00. > :04:04.quarterfinal. The only time I have played Jackson

:04:05. > :04:09.Page, it is a great occasion and I like the way he plays and I like

:04:10. > :04:14.watching him play. So yes, he's a tough, tough opponent. Got to keep

:04:15. > :04:18.playing like I'm playing to beat him. Coming into the tournament,

:04:19. > :04:24.Barry is one of the favourites and the way he has performed, this game,

:04:25. > :04:30.he has not dropped many games in this tournament so far. The last

:04:31. > :04:33.couple of times may be, being in the semifinal in the English open, and I

:04:34. > :04:38.beat him in the Masters. Just take your chances on the day, it is

:04:39. > :04:42.whoever does that. To compete, I need to raise my game a little bit

:04:43. > :04:46.and hopefully I can do that against the better players, I normally do. I

:04:47. > :04:51.kind of know what to expect with him now and how well he's playing. When

:04:52. > :04:55.things are going well, you have to take it well you can because it is

:04:56. > :04:58.definitely not going to last long. Just an all-round top player the way

:04:59. > :05:05.he's playing the top five or six players. Where he's in the rankings,

:05:06. > :05:08.I think he will keep climbing. Really good game in prospect and

:05:09. > :05:12.Barry Hawkins has just been in the practice area, I just had a quick

:05:13. > :05:16.chat with him and he's looking confident and relaxed ahead of what

:05:17. > :05:21.should be a really good match. Yes, he has nine years of experience and

:05:22. > :05:25.Judd. Judd has been a juggernaut and he has steamed his way to the top of

:05:26. > :05:31.the rankings. Barry has improved with age. Like Judd was saying, he's

:05:32. > :05:36.one of the best in the world, after a fantastic run, losing two frames

:05:37. > :05:40.in four matches, so the man in form. This is a big test, both have had a

:05:41. > :05:48.favourable draw and now it is the Clash of the Titans. Judd is one of

:05:49. > :05:52.the best exhibition players I have seen. Is he right that he has to

:05:53. > :05:58.raise his game to beat Hawkins? Yes, I think so, is Barry Hawkins a

:05:59. > :06:03.better potter, a better break at, no, but he's a better all-round

:06:04. > :06:09.player. It is a big clash but it will be interesting. If it goes

:06:10. > :06:14.close, I fancy Hawkins. Otherwise, if it is open, Judd. Very difficult

:06:15. > :06:19.to call, we will see them coming out in a second. At the Motorpoint Arena

:06:20. > :06:22.in Cardiff, it it is the second of our quarterfinals, which one of

:06:23. > :06:26.these top 16 players can make their way into the semifinals tomorrow?

:06:27. > :06:32.But join your commentary team, Dominic Dale and Rob Walker.

:06:33. > :06:46.Thanks very much. A great atmosphere expected. And delivered by the

:06:47. > :07:00.crowd. Two of only three players left in the 2017 Welsh Open from the

:07:01. > :07:07.world's top 30. As Ian was saying, in the studio, they have had some

:07:08. > :07:15.good battles. Barry is leading the head-to-head 5-3. Each man has

:07:16. > :07:21.beaten the other once this season. Barry's came just last week, en

:07:22. > :07:27.route to his third ranking title in Preston. He beat Judd 4-1. Earlier

:07:28. > :07:29.this season, Judd Trump beat Barry Hawkins 6-2 in the semifinals of the

:07:30. > :07:51.English open. So one each this season. And for the

:07:52. > :07:56.real statisticians amongst you, they have played twice when it has gone

:07:57. > :08:01.to a decider and each one won, so there's little to separate them.

:08:02. > :08:24.Almost two for the price of one from Judd Trump! A really fascinating

:08:25. > :08:31.match, this one. Judd's passage through to his third quarterfinal

:08:32. > :08:37.here has been pretty smooth, winning against Andrew Higginson 4-1. 4-2

:08:38. > :08:45.against Alex Borg, the man from Malta playing well in the early

:08:46. > :08:50.stages. Jackson Page was dispatched. And Hossein Vafaei took just one

:08:51. > :08:53.frame from Judd. Barry Hawkins equally impressive, and the two

:08:54. > :09:00.frames conceded in four matches and he has now won nine matches in ten

:09:01. > :09:06.days, after coming here fresh off the back of that fabulous victory in

:09:07. > :09:13.Preston. So, Dominic Dale, how on Earth to pick a winner between these

:09:14. > :09:18.two? Yes, it won't be easy to read into too many things because all

:09:19. > :09:22.these top professionals tend to disregard the history of matches

:09:23. > :09:28.between them, unless it is severely one-sided. It does make a difference

:09:29. > :09:34.then, I suppose. Judd seems to be playing some great snooker this week

:09:35. > :09:40.in Wales. Before he came here, Barry Hawkins would be full of expectation

:09:41. > :09:45.on the back of his success in Preston. Not seeing too much this

:09:46. > :09:53.week of these two playing but I know Barry has been winning his matches

:09:54. > :10:02.rather easily. Winning quite comfortably yesterday. Both players

:10:03. > :10:06.keen to get off to a good start. At least it is a proper match, as some

:10:07. > :10:10.would suggest, a best of nine with an interval. Slightly longer

:10:11. > :10:21.duration and a little more time to settle down.

:10:22. > :10:29.Just the wrong side of the blue, Judd, so having to really do some

:10:30. > :10:35.work with the cue ball. Just look at the top spin that Judd gets onto the

:10:36. > :10:41.cue ball. You would love to be on that red on the black which will

:10:42. > :10:49.still pot into the right corner but he has to be low on it rather than

:10:50. > :10:56.high for it to go. Well, he thinks it will just pot, and it did. Just

:10:57. > :11:25.did not quite judge the cannon correctly, Judd, so good effort.

:11:26. > :11:33.Judd will be a little disappointed to see that black finding its way

:11:34. > :11:38.near the side cushion, but playing a great cue ball and Barry in trouble

:11:39. > :11:43.here. Write down the line of this, I don't know if Barry can see the

:11:44. > :11:44.faintest edge of any of the reds. From that angle, I would suggest

:11:45. > :11:59.certainly not. Barry is comprehensively snookered

:12:00. > :12:04.and he has to be very careful here because there are a couple of loose

:12:05. > :12:11.reds and he could easily leave something 14 Judd. -- leave

:12:12. > :13:07.something for Judd. He has been absolutely brilliant in

:13:08. > :13:14.patches so far this week. Barry Hawkins had not looked too shabby

:13:15. > :13:26.either. A really intriguing match, this.

:13:27. > :13:39.In fact, when you look at the CV of Judd Trump, he has won six ranking

:13:40. > :13:45.titles and we have to go back to 2011 since his last major crown on

:13:46. > :13:49.British soil. In the UK. A couple of victories in China, the

:13:50. > :13:54.international Championship in China, the week he became world number one

:13:55. > :14:00.for the first time in 2012. He has won in Australia and he won the

:14:01. > :14:05.European Masters. Just the one big one on UK soil and he's not too hot

:14:06. > :14:09.far away from home territory, with his family making the short journey

:14:10. > :14:16.from Bristol, so this would mean a lot to him if he was able to get to

:14:17. > :14:20.the final and get over the line. Yes, it is a little surprising he

:14:21. > :14:29.has not won a major tournament in Britain since 2011, that is a long

:14:30. > :14:35.time ago now for Judd. He always gets to the later stages of most

:14:36. > :14:41.tournaments. And you would think that he has won more than the six

:14:42. > :14:46.ranking events that he has. I think in the case of Judd, it is his style

:14:47. > :14:51.of play, he's a very attacking player and when they go in, one of

:14:52. > :14:55.the hardest players to beat. But he plays such an attacking game and if

:14:56. > :15:01.they are not going game, players such as Barry Hawkins, and other top

:15:02. > :15:06.players, they tend to capitalise heavily on any mistakes made by

:15:07. > :15:11.anybody and it Judd does give those opportunities to them, he will lose

:15:12. > :15:18.frames and matches. That is what makes Judd and players like Ronnie

:15:19. > :15:30.O'Sullivan such exciting players to watch. Yes, the likes of Ronnie Way

:15:31. > :15:43.ahead, and 28 ranking titles. I can't remember how many he had won

:15:44. > :15:50.by the time he was the age of Judd. A few people could be wondering

:15:51. > :15:56.whether the combination of Judd Trump and the legendary Terry Riff

:15:57. > :16:01.is might be intriguing -- Terry Griffiths. Terry is working with so

:16:02. > :16:06.many of the players and he will be an interested observer of this,

:16:07. > :16:12.having spent so much time with Barry over recent years. Judd is a player

:16:13. > :16:21.of immense spectral talent. He has won in the UK, in 2011, but not in a

:16:22. > :16:27.ranking event. He won Ronnie in conduct an Opec couple of years ago,

:16:28. > :16:31.that was an intriguing match. Surely it is only a matter of time before

:16:32. > :16:45.he adds to his collection of six so far. Always interesting to hear what

:16:46. > :16:50.the bookies think. Slight marginal favourite for this title, I think.

:16:51. > :16:56.It is very tight with Barry and Stuart Bingham still in the hunt, in

:16:57. > :17:10.the world's top 30 and the world's top 16. Judd just having a look to

:17:11. > :17:14.see if there are two reds in that group. For a planned. There's every

:17:15. > :17:20.chance he could make that, did not catch that red thin enough but

:17:21. > :17:25.safety was his main priority. He will have to be good against Barry

:17:26. > :17:30.Hawkins whose long game can be really good sometimes. The red in

:17:31. > :17:34.this right-hand corner could be a shot to nothing but the problem for

:17:35. > :17:37.Barry could be that black, does not want to collide with it on its way

:17:38. > :17:55.back to baulk. He did catch the black and he has

:17:56. > :17:59.developed it, so one could pot from Judd and you would fancy him winning

:18:00. > :18:06.this now, already 48 points to the good. Well, not quite sure Judd

:18:07. > :18:10.recognised the importance of that red, that went in. I'm sure it would

:18:11. > :18:43.have been 1-0, Judd Trump. A little remiss from Barry. He goes

:18:44. > :18:56.back over and he stands by his chair. Beautifully judged. From

:18:57. > :18:59.Judd. Just has the blue off its spot. He makes these tight angles

:19:00. > :19:34.look so easy sometimes. And Barry was a pretty tired figure

:19:35. > :19:42.when he arrived here in Cardiff. He just got home to see his son

:19:43. > :19:49.Harrison... Oh, dear. And then he came down, ready to go on Tuesday. I

:19:50. > :19:57.guess from a player's perspective, you would want it -- you have won a

:19:58. > :20:00.couple of big ones, it must be quite difficult to sustain your mental

:20:01. > :20:05.desire when you have got over the line in a huge match, as he did on

:20:06. > :20:09.Sunday, and suddenly you are on the motorway at game, away from home,

:20:10. > :20:15.and you have to do it all over again within 48 hours. Yes, I would not be

:20:16. > :20:19.at all surprised if that catches up with Barry at some point, maybe in

:20:20. > :20:25.this match, who knows, but he will be tired. He was nicely up in that

:20:26. > :20:30.final against Ryan Day and then he lost four frames to Ryan's great

:20:31. > :20:37.play, making a number of breaks in quick succession and only went over

:20:38. > :20:41.the line to win 10-7 in the end. And that would have taken something out

:20:42. > :20:46.Barry. I remember playing him in the World Championships three years ago

:20:47. > :20:51.and I was 11-5 in the quarterfinals down and I ended up losing only

:20:52. > :20:56.13-12 and I think that really took something out of Barry for his next

:20:57. > :21:01.match against Ronnie O'Sullivan, who won rather easily in the semifinals

:21:02. > :21:04.against him. You really do go through the mental ring that when

:21:05. > :21:17.somebody put you under pressure as Ryan did just a couple of days ago.

:21:18. > :21:21.I remember that match. You came back in, you came out and you were

:21:22. > :21:33.talking about your shoes before it began. Always a man with an eye for

:21:34. > :21:40.the fashion details, Dominic Dale! So, excellent pot from Barry

:21:41. > :21:46.Hawkins. The world number eight. He's actually second if you look at

:21:47. > :21:50.the one-year list, that perhaps is a more accurate indication of current

:21:51. > :22:20.form. An example of what he has done in the last couple of months.

:22:21. > :22:27.60 71, with the five reds remaining. More than enough to get back in this

:22:28. > :22:44.opening frame. -- 67. Barry has misjudged that one. He

:22:45. > :22:48.played for the black. It did sound like a slight clip, but I don't

:22:49. > :22:52.think it would have made much difference to the positional aspect

:22:53. > :22:56.of the shot in that case. Yes, it jumped into it, the cue ball. And

:22:57. > :23:00.whether or not this meant Barry would have been on the black

:23:01. > :23:08.otherwise, I don't quite know. The pink is still on, but it is a

:23:09. > :23:17.difficult pot. Well played shot from Barry, there's pressure on that. 34

:23:18. > :23:22.points still in arrears. I don't think Barry will feel any of these

:23:23. > :23:27.reds will prevent -- presents too much difficulty, but the green

:23:28. > :23:33.could. I was wrong. He will be disappointed at missing that, Barry.

:23:34. > :23:40.He knows he should have parted that, but it is the first frame and these

:23:41. > :23:49.mistakes can have been -- can happen early on in the match.

:23:50. > :24:02.Oh, dear, it is catching. Two of the top three seeds left in this year's

:24:03. > :24:18.Welsh Open just struggling a little bit here in this first frame.

:24:19. > :24:22.Not sure Barry would have been expecting to come back to the table

:24:23. > :25:21.so soon, having left Judd in. Delicately poised this first frame.

:25:22. > :25:28.By the time the Barry gets to the dream, should he get that far, the

:25:29. > :25:31.point is probably will be level. Has to use a half-board angle or

:25:32. > :25:38.something like that on the black to run the cue ball up to a good

:25:39. > :25:47.position on the yellow. -- a half-board angle. Went off the side

:25:48. > :25:57.cushion right towards that black, it stopped in time, just the speed that

:25:58. > :26:05.came off that side cushion. That has just caught the bottom jaw of the

:26:06. > :26:10.pocket and it has meant he's on the complete wrong side of the yellow to

:26:11. > :26:14.get on the green. Have a look, it just catches. We did not see it

:26:15. > :26:37.there, but that is what happened. A problem for Barry, just catching

:26:38. > :26:42.the bottom jaw of the middle pocket and you saw the narrow angle it went

:26:43. > :26:43.up the table from, that is why he missed the yellow, having to do too

:26:44. > :27:21.much work with the cue ball. Great pot from Barry Hawkins. He was

:27:22. > :27:33.run out of position on the yellow on the first time of asking. It is all

:27:34. > :27:42.square, 49 each. Oh, dear! He has done all that work to get back on

:27:43. > :27:51.level terms. And that could be his last contribution to this frame.

:27:52. > :27:59.Yes, it was a great yellow that Barry potted, very disappointed to

:28:00. > :28:04.miss that green, gave himself every opportunity to snatch this first

:28:05. > :28:13.frame from Judd Trump and now just the blue and pink to take it. No big

:28:14. > :28:17.breaks in this first frame, the highest as 32 from Barry Hawkins.

:28:18. > :28:23.But in the end, it is Judd Trump who wins this first frame to take it 1-0

:28:24. > :28:34.lead, it is best of nine, against Barry Hawkins.

:28:35. > :28:44.I would like to be the loudmouth Floyd Mayweather and at the moment

:28:45. > :28:49.Colin McGregor. In snooker, it is probably Ronnie's 147 in five

:28:50. > :28:53.minutes, I don't think that will ever be achieved again. Like most

:28:54. > :28:59.sports, I would say boxing is up there and is tennis is also quite

:29:00. > :29:04.good to watch. There was always one to be world number one and one to be

:29:05. > :29:11.champion, so halfway there and it would be nice to win the World

:29:12. > :29:15.Championship one day. I think it is a little bit harsh sometimes. I

:29:16. > :29:20.think I thought a pair of trainers worth ?65, my mum did not want me to

:29:21. > :29:25.buy those but I said it was my own money and he couldn't do anything

:29:26. > :29:30.about it! At the Crucible, it is a different class, just so much

:29:31. > :29:35.atmosphere and it is a buzz, you can feel the pressure and its spurs you

:29:36. > :29:39.one. Hopefully I make some wise decisions now and I will buy some

:29:40. > :29:43.property and be sorted after snooker. Maybe relax and be involved

:29:44. > :29:47.with snooker a bit, a bit of commentating or something. But

:29:48. > :29:53.hopefully be well off, enough to retire.

:29:54. > :29:57.Yes, good to find out more about Judd Trump, the character. In terms

:29:58. > :29:59.of how he's getting on in this quarterfinal, is he a little bit

:30:00. > :30:10.fortunate to be 1-0 up? He was 48 points in front at one

:30:11. > :30:15.stage. I would never want to change his game, but when you have the game

:30:16. > :30:19.like this, look at the PC is playing. He is making the brown

:30:20. > :30:25.difficult and giving Barry Hawkins a chance to get the frame. As it

:30:26. > :30:30.happens, Barry Hawkins list and Judd went on to win the frame. Even in

:30:31. > :30:38.the latter stages, he tends to push the boat. This is why he has not yet

:30:39. > :30:43.been world champion I love Judd Trump,, he is a future world

:30:44. > :30:48.champion, but you have to question whether he pushes the boat out too

:30:49. > :30:51.much. It they beat sums of a difference in style between these

:30:52. > :31:04.players. Hawkins to break in frame two. Barry Hawkins will be very

:31:05. > :31:10.disappointed at the manner in which that first frame got away from him

:31:11. > :31:16.because he did have opportunities, but after he left that green

:31:17. > :31:22.available, Judd Trump showed no hesitation in getting across the

:31:23. > :31:28.line. That is only the third frame Barry has conceded in the four and a

:31:29. > :31:37.big matches he has played so far here in Cardiff this week. It is

:31:38. > :31:43.interesting, when you look at the pattern of Barry Hawkins's career in

:31:44. > :31:47.comparison to the world number two, stripping, whereas Judd burst onto

:31:48. > :31:54.the scene at a very young age, Barry is 37, Stewart is 47, they both seem

:31:55. > :32:03.to be reinvigorated after winning in Australia. Barry in 2012 done at --

:32:04. > :32:06.down under and stripped. Now Barry is one of the key players in the

:32:07. > :32:13.circuit and that is not something people would have predicted five or

:32:14. > :32:20.six years ago. It might look like that from a public perspective, I

:32:21. > :32:25.think the majority of professional players realised that Barry Hawkins

:32:26. > :32:33.is a very classy player for a good decade or more. Very still on the

:32:34. > :32:40.shot, knows all facets of the game. What has improved with Barry, maybe

:32:41. > :32:45.his belief as after winning tournaments, as he has done, but he

:32:46. > :32:49.scores heavily and his long game is very good. If you do those two

:32:50. > :33:13.things very well, you will be very difficult to beat.

:33:14. > :33:23.I always find with Judd that he is the momentum player. When he gets

:33:24. > :33:35.rolling, he is very difficult to stop. I don't know whether that was

:33:36. > :33:39.in Barry's mind. He missed a couple of crucial pots in that frame,

:33:40. > :33:45.realising the importance of getting a handle on Judd early on. He just

:33:46. > :33:47.stopped supporting these balls and making bricks. It is the devil's own

:33:48. > :34:12.jaw to stop them. He plays with a certain amount of

:34:13. > :34:24.aggression, Judd. He is always quick to try to get in and split the reds.

:34:25. > :34:31.Absolutely. If there is one thing I love about his game, other than his

:34:32. > :34:40.potting and unpredictability, is his shot choices. He does play the game

:34:41. > :34:45.in a very modern style. He attacks everything, gets the pack of reds

:34:46. > :34:47.open as early as he possibly can. Some players don't do that as much

:34:48. > :35:04.as they ought to. Split the ball is far and wide from

:35:05. > :35:09.the blue. I am not sure Judd would have gone into the pack here from

:35:10. > :35:14.the blue. He still could do from the side cushion, with top spin. I don't

:35:15. > :35:31.know if there are any more than spreads available. -- any more loose

:35:32. > :35:36.reds. It was difficult to generate enough place for the shop to go into

:35:37. > :35:42.the pack the way it did. He was almost straight on the blue. He

:35:43. > :35:42.possesses such great to power. Unfortunately he hasn't landed on

:35:43. > :36:09.anything. A little grimace they the world

:36:10. > :36:24.number four as he walked back down to this end of the table.

:36:25. > :36:33.Beautifully judged. That was the best he could do in these

:36:34. > :36:58.circumstances. Yes. We weren't sure if that was

:36:59. > :37:29.going to drop. That was stripped of the Judd Trump. -- straight out.

:37:30. > :37:39.Barry Hawkins most certainly did have a look at those reds. He

:37:40. > :37:43.attempted the 3-ball plant. Whether it was intended to come in and out

:37:44. > :37:47.of Boll is another matter. A favourable cannon on the green. This

:37:48. > :38:05.is no fluke. He has a great opportunity to get

:38:06. > :38:11.back into this frame. He will need all the remaining reds and some of

:38:12. > :38:16.the Polk colours. There is one awkward red toward the cushion. I

:38:17. > :38:39.believe the yellow will pot. That was pot and that will help

:38:40. > :39:10.Barry significantly should he get as far as the yellow.

:39:11. > :39:19.I am sure Barry's son, Harrison, got home from school in the last 15

:39:20. > :39:25.minutes or so and he will be on the TV watching his dad. I wonder if he

:39:26. > :39:31.was allowed to stay up for the last session of the world Grand Prix? He

:39:32. > :39:39.did at least get his hands on the trophy when Barry went home for a

:39:40. > :39:47.couple of hours. I guess, from a player perspective, your whole

:39:48. > :39:51.family invest in the effort. You are away from home a lot. The whole

:39:52. > :40:01.family makes a sacrifice, not just the player. Yes, especially the

:40:02. > :40:05.players who have children. And time I have been in a tournament in

:40:06. > :40:09.China, I have heard the players complaining about being away from

:40:10. > :40:15.their families for so long and they are missing their children. The

:40:16. > :40:19.wonders of modern technology with mobile phones and gadgets, they can

:40:20. > :40:23.stay in touch rather more easily than they could have done a couple

:40:24. > :40:31.of decades or so ago. That does help. He played a very good shot

:40:32. > :40:34.there. He is on this last red. He would have liked to be a little bit

:40:35. > :40:42.straighter on it, but this could be ideal. He wouldn't have to do

:40:43. > :40:46.anything with the tuple for a position on the yellow.

:40:47. > :40:48.Unfortunately, the red was thinner than I thought it was. He has done

:40:49. > :41:22.his best. A lead of six points, so he will

:41:23. > :41:29.need green, brown and blue. What is the angle like on this yellow? That

:41:30. > :41:41.will determine how he gets on to the green. He didn't avoid the pain. He

:41:42. > :41:46.has got a problem here because the green is very thin. He could block

:41:47. > :41:52.the brown if he comes back across the table. What will he do here? He

:41:53. > :41:59.is in a spot of bother here. He could miss the green. A bit of

:42:00. > :42:22.thinking for him to do here. Well, to be honest, it was an

:42:23. > :42:25.excellent pot on the green and I think he had to play it the way he

:42:26. > :42:31.did to get this side of the table for the brown. It might just be a

:42:32. > :43:03.safety shot number Barry plays. So, a chance here for Judd, maybe.

:43:04. > :43:32.After Barry got a break of 60. 22 still on. Judd Trump could still

:43:33. > :43:36.potentially doubled his advantage in these early stages, but Barry

:43:37. > :43:48.Hawkins has done most of the work in this frame.

:43:49. > :43:57.We have seen the full repertoire of shots from these world-class

:43:58. > :44:09.players. We'll Judd Trump fancy this? No, not on the location. He

:44:10. > :44:16.has gone for those in the earlier matches. No disrespect to Higginson,

:44:17. > :44:19.so far in the Welsh Open until this match, he has not faced an opponent

:44:20. > :44:56.of the calibre of Barry Hawkins. A quick check of the scoreboard

:44:57. > :45:30.terror jaw. The shrapnel from Judd. I wonder if we are destined for a

:45:31. > :45:43.long one? It will be pretty intriguing.

:45:44. > :45:50.But brown just crept past the middle pocket. The few inches shorter and

:45:51. > :46:14.he could have easily left it on for Barry. It is OK now, it is safe.

:46:15. > :46:23.Barry has made a bit of a mess of that one, I am afraid. If Judd can

:46:24. > :46:28.support this and get on the blue, it could be frame over. He has missed

:46:29. > :46:36.it. You will be disappointed, that was a great chance to go 2-0 ahead.

:46:37. > :46:42.He is very, very fortunate the tuple landed in front of the black. Barry

:46:43. > :46:47.is not one of the tallest players, so he could struggle with this. I

:46:48. > :47:13.wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play the pot here now.

:47:14. > :47:19.It is certainly evident that both of these players have a healthy respect

:47:20. > :47:23.for each other. They are very conscious of one another. It is

:47:24. > :47:32.causing them to make the occasional mistake. I wonder how aware they are

:47:33. > :47:36.of the fact that, other than the two of them, it is only Stuart Bingham

:47:37. > :47:43.still left in the drop from the top 16. He is down the bottom half. The

:47:44. > :47:47.winner of this one will play Scott Donaldson. So either Judd or Hawkins

:47:48. > :47:49.would be the overwhelming favourite to make the final. That is better

:47:50. > :48:22.from Barry. So, barring a snooker, it is one

:48:23. > :48:28.each. He had his chances to double his lead. Nicely done by Barry

:48:29. > :48:37.Hawkins. We are all square in the early stages here. We did say it

:48:38. > :48:45.would be a difficult one to call, this. That was a very good frame. It

:48:46. > :48:49.could have been 2-0 either way. Judd left Barry and easy chance on the

:48:50. > :48:54.yellow. Barry looked certain to clear up in one visit, lost position

:48:55. > :49:06.on the ground. On reflection on the match so far, 1-1 is a fair sure

:49:07. > :49:11.that score. Does it come down to trump being more intuitive and

:49:12. > :49:16.Hawkins more pragmatic? Two years ago I would've said exactly that,

:49:17. > :49:22.but Hawkins is scoring heavily. If you look at the statistics, Hawkins

:49:23. > :49:27.is 300 behind Judd Trump. Over the last year, you have to suggest that

:49:28. > :49:32.Hawkins is up there with the best. He can compete in both compartments.

:49:33. > :49:37.As Judd got both compartments? I don't think so. Barry Hawkins can

:49:38. > :49:43.win a messy, I am not sure Judd Trump can. Perhaps the reason he has

:49:44. > :49:47.not one more major tournaments... Is there a better player to watch in

:49:48. > :49:52.the world than Judd Trump? I don't think so. He has to ask why he isn't

:49:53. > :49:57.winning regularly. He says he can work it out. I would never want to

:49:58. > :50:01.change his game because he is one of the best players I have ever seen,

:50:02. > :50:05.but now and again just bite the bullet and weight. He doesn't have

:50:06. > :50:11.the pot everything, just wait a better chance. We were talking the

:50:12. > :50:16.Barry earlier on, he was talking about the busy wiki had. He was in

:50:17. > :50:23.Kent and Cardiff and one the world Grand Prix. How is that, doing all

:50:24. > :50:33.that travelling and constantly playing? We have never had a run of

:50:34. > :50:37.tournaments like that. It has never been so back-to-back. They go from

:50:38. > :50:40.here to the shoot out, from there they go to Gibraltar, from there to

:50:41. > :50:45.China and then the World Championship. I wonder whether Barry

:50:46. > :50:50.will be booking hotel rooms for his family. Hard to say at the moment in

:50:51. > :51:01.the early stage of this quarterfinal. It is 1-1. It would be

:51:02. > :51:06.a brave Mann who could definitively predict an outcome here with

:51:07. > :51:16.conviction. Plenty of opportunities for both these players in both

:51:17. > :51:23.frames a break of 60 doing most of the damage for Barry in the second

:51:24. > :51:30.frame. Judd hasn't had much time on the balls in the last quarter of an

:51:31. > :51:40.hour. He hasn't potted for 13 and a half minutes. That is a long time.

:51:41. > :51:46.We were really looking forward to this match before it started and

:51:47. > :51:52.there have been some misses, but it has the makings of a very good

:51:53. > :52:01.encounter. A good crowd in here once again. People put in the afternoon

:52:02. > :52:08.off work, coming here to watch two of the very best in the sport trying

:52:09. > :52:27.to make it in the semifinals Saturday year in Cardiff.

:52:28. > :52:32.He attempted the black there because it is available into the right

:52:33. > :53:08.corner. You would expect both of these

:53:09. > :53:20.players to be in the 90s at their best. It is just not happening here

:53:21. > :53:24.in the early stages. 15 minutes since Judd last pot of a ball. Is he

:53:25. > :53:38.about to get back in the groove here?

:53:39. > :53:48.He get the feeling he could just do with a little trickier to settle

:53:49. > :53:57.down, despite the fact that it is 1-1. He has missed the art already

:53:58. > :54:00.that you wouldn't expect him to miss and he might still be disappointed

:54:01. > :54:10.that he could not be 2-0 up already, which would have been a great start

:54:11. > :54:17.in a best of nine. So, sure, he will be looking to find his rhythm again

:54:18. > :54:27.here. You would like to get on the red just above the black. This looks

:54:28. > :54:30.perfect. He can just wrote this in and then remove the red away from

:54:31. > :54:42.the black spot which will make things plain silly. -- plain

:54:43. > :54:43.sailing. He will have to play a deft little screen shot into the pack of

:54:44. > :55:48.red Sea. A bit of a heart stopping moment

:55:49. > :56:45.there. As John Virgo would say, it certainly wiped its feet.

:56:46. > :56:59.The control that cannon into the cluster very well to run through for

:57:00. > :57:03.the black. Judd would expect himself to go on and win the frame from

:57:04. > :57:15.here. He played that one a little better. There

:57:16. > :57:23.you go. He should have left the red much straight into the centre

:57:24. > :57:28.pocket. The fact he left such a big angle on it was enough to make an

:57:29. > :57:45.miss it. You will be hoping it doesn't cost him the frame.

:57:46. > :57:53.It looked like it was normal service resumed for Judd Trump, but once

:57:54. > :58:05.again he has let Barry Hawkins in here. He was doing this at times in

:58:06. > :58:09.a feud of the earlier matches, certainly in the second round. Judd

:58:10. > :58:23.won 4-2 but he was made to work quite hard for that win. Against

:58:24. > :58:26.Barry Hawkins, the world number eight, three-time ranking event

:58:27. > :58:31.winner, surely you cannot get away with too many of those mistakes.

:58:32. > :58:56.Still only the best of nine. Respect for each other, nervous, bit

:58:57. > :58:59.of both? Difficult to know. I think once the match gets underway and the

:59:00. > :59:07.few frames are played, the wariness of each other can disappear and you

:59:08. > :59:17.get on with your own performance. That was a massive kick. We have

:59:18. > :59:25.seen a few this week and that led to this mess from Barry Hawkins. A

:59:26. > :59:33.reprieve for Judd. He asks the Belgian referee to clean the tubal.

:59:34. > :59:42.Quite rightly when you get a bad contact there is often a chock mark

:59:43. > :59:44.on the object file. These little things that go on in matches can

:59:45. > :00:02.affect you. A black and a couple more reds and

:00:03. > :00:20.other colours, could be enough for Judd Trump to take a 2-1 lead.

:00:21. > :01:01.Great use of the pink to make sure those three reds are in play.

:01:02. > :01:16.So Judd is almost there in this frame. And he must have been

:01:17. > :01:22.concerned. When that red went to the middle, that Hawkins was going to

:01:23. > :01:34.capitalise on the mistake. Snookers required now for Barry Hawkins.

:01:35. > :01:48.I'm sure Judd's dad Steve will be relieved to know that this third

:01:49. > :01:50.frame is heading to Judd. Judd Trump comfortably over the line in this

:01:51. > :02:27.frame. Cheeky! As only he can, at that

:02:28. > :02:33.pace, with the frame secured. He's playing on some great entertainment

:02:34. > :02:39.here. Oh, well, could not keep it going. But Judd Trump has managed to

:02:40. > :02:40.get himself ahead here in this very tight match against Barry Hawkins,

:02:41. > :03:47.too one. -- 2-1 up. So it is advantage Trump again in

:03:48. > :03:53.the battle between the worlds number four and the world number eight, but

:03:54. > :03:59.we have seen the two side of Trump, the good and the bump. The first

:04:00. > :04:04.frame, he missed one and Barry had a chance to men and air -- to win and

:04:05. > :04:10.he did not commit this game, 14 front. This shot, he's 40 in front

:04:11. > :04:15.and whether he suddenly relaxes, I don't know. Every frame, he misses

:04:16. > :04:19.an easy shot. He would miss that probably one out of ten. But it

:04:20. > :04:25.seems to be when he's in front. And we have the exhibition In. He likes

:04:26. > :04:30.to tame the crowd and I wish more players would do this, he likes to

:04:31. > :04:35.play the exhibition shocked when the frame is over. We have got to really

:04:36. > :04:40.entertain the public and Judd Trump certainly entertaining. He stepped

:04:41. > :04:44.away as if, I meant to do that, it happens all the time. How'd you see

:04:45. > :04:48.it developing? It is close, Judd Trump is giving too many chances

:04:49. > :04:54.away, he has been 50 in front in virtually every frame and he's only

:04:55. > :04:58.2-1 in front. Entertaining from Judd Trump at the end, let's head back

:04:59. > :05:08.with Hawkins the break. Actor Dominic and Rob. -- back to Dominic.

:05:09. > :05:16.So now we have moved up to the best of nine. Having been best-of-7 for

:05:17. > :05:21.the first four days, there will be an interval. Barry Hawkins would

:05:22. > :05:32.absolutely love to make sure he goes into the break having got back on

:05:33. > :05:42.level terms. They have both had chances in every frame. It is pretty

:05:43. > :05:49.tight so far. Very then the connection from Judd. What is your

:05:50. > :05:55.view, Dominick? He was saying how much he enjoys Judd going for his

:05:56. > :06:00.shots when the frame is already secured, is he very unusual in that

:06:01. > :06:05.regard, Judd? For many players, they will simply focus on maintaining

:06:06. > :06:12.their rhythm and men -- and momentum rather than entertaining the

:06:13. > :06:17.punters. I think a lot of that to do with how you are as a person, Judd

:06:18. > :06:22.is a flamboyant character. He loves to play an attacking style of play

:06:23. > :06:26.not many others are capable of achieving and still winning

:06:27. > :06:32.tournaments in the process. You can always tell the way a player plays

:06:33. > :06:35.snooker by the car they drive, the speed they drive, the way they are

:06:36. > :06:40.in life, it is a reflection of how you played the game, and the

:06:41. > :06:45.greatest players in the sport, if you look at the history, ten the

:06:46. > :06:49.beam the more introverted characters like Stephen Hendry and John

:06:50. > :06:54.Higgins, that type of player. And if it is not in your make up the play

:06:55. > :06:57.flamboyant shots that please the crowd and the public, it is not

:06:58. > :07:03.something you will ever see happening. It is Judd's style of

:07:04. > :07:08.play, he lost entertain and that is why we all love watching him. It is

:07:09. > :07:35.100 miles an hour and it is a Ferrari!

:07:36. > :07:50.Oh, dear! Oh, dear! Are still standing over that one. He can't

:07:51. > :08:03.believe it. The crowd laughing with him. He's very bemused, you can see

:08:04. > :08:09.the confusion and Barry's face. I don't think he felt he missed that

:08:10. > :08:15.two. -- that pot. Either the cue ball deviated on its course to the

:08:16. > :08:28.red all the red would still have gone in off the jaw anyway.

:08:29. > :08:38.Well, is Judd on a red into the right corner? Can he get past that

:08:39. > :08:45.group of reds to the left one? It must be tight. There's another one

:08:46. > :08:59.into the same pocket but it is a very thin cut. I think that goes.

:09:00. > :09:10.Now, we'll Judd play deep screw into that group of five reds below the

:09:11. > :09:16.pink? Unfortunately, he just caught them to thin that affects the cue

:09:17. > :09:21.ball towards baulk. If you play with too much pace, the cue ball does too

:09:22. > :09:26.much before it can react with the spin on the clock and bite back into

:09:27. > :09:29.that group of reds, you have to play with the right pace to rip the cloth

:09:30. > :10:19.early enough and spin enough. If Judd Trump could punish Barry for

:10:20. > :10:25.that inexplicable miss on the red, that would really hurt. He managed

:10:26. > :10:32.to head into the interval two away from victory. A fair amount of work

:10:33. > :10:33.left to do in this frame, but this is a good chance for the world

:10:34. > :10:59.number four. Well, that is a bit unfortunate for

:11:00. > :11:03.Judd, into that group of reds and just catching the left-hand side of

:11:04. > :11:08.that group which is why the cue ball has finished where it has done, but

:11:09. > :11:12.there's still a red on into this right centre, but he would not be

:11:13. > :11:17.able to get onto the pink very easily. I don't know if the black

:11:18. > :11:21.will pot, I don't think you can hold for the black into the right corner,

:11:22. > :11:34.it would have to go on to the red into the right corner. Oh, well, I

:11:35. > :11:39.don't think the black will pot past the other red. He tried to get on

:11:40. > :11:45.the pink anti-court the jaws of the pocket and he finished in No Man s

:11:46. > :11:54.Land. Just a good safety required now from Judd. He has had leads of

:11:55. > :11:59.48, 49, 50-0 in the first three frames, just winning two of them.

:12:00. > :12:03.Again, he has a 40 point lead in this frame. But I think the reds,

:12:04. > :12:09.they are quite favourably spread for Judd, and it is a good lead given

:12:10. > :12:35.there are four or five reds in difficult positions.

:12:36. > :12:49.Well, I think Judd will be tempted by this red into the left corner,

:12:50. > :12:56.get the cue ball back towards baulk. That is a fantastic pot from Judd.

:12:57. > :13:06.Just straight into the cue ball up slightly. Left-hand side on that as

:13:07. > :13:18.we looked, right-hand side to Judd. Just behind the brown now, just to

:13:19. > :13:24.put Barry Hawkins in deep trouble. Three out of three on his long pots,

:13:25. > :13:31.acrid to. One of the strengths of his game and it is holding firm

:13:32. > :14:01.today -- on his long pots, Judd. Barry is coming under real pressure

:14:02. > :14:05.now in this match. The World Grand Prix champion, he has won nine

:14:06. > :14:56.matches in ten days. And he had a look. It just would not

:14:57. > :15:05.go. So another safety. The ace in the pack. The proud Bristolian

:15:06. > :15:20.living in Essex, not too far from Ronnie O'Sullivan.

:15:21. > :15:28.We mentioned earlier the sacrifices that the families of players make to

:15:29. > :15:37.allow them to have their life on the road. Judd's diet is a long-distance

:15:38. > :15:42.truck driver and he used all of his holiday to drive his young son

:15:43. > :15:46.around the tournaments. He never had a holiday until Judd made it and won

:15:47. > :15:51.a couple of big events. I think Judd pay for his mum and dad to go away

:15:52. > :16:02.on a break somewhere. Amazing dedication. I have

:16:03. > :16:12.just seen two tremendous efforts and judgment of pace, you can't beat it.

:16:13. > :16:26.Two shots in a row that cue ball has been nailed to that baulk cushion.

:16:27. > :16:32.He did try and cut a red into the right corner, he got the wrong one,

:16:33. > :16:38.but superb. This one, very similar, if he does not find the corner

:16:39. > :16:43.pocket. Three shots in a row within millimetres of that cushion. I don't

:16:44. > :17:18.think we will see that happen again very often.

:17:19. > :17:29.So that time, the mistake came from Judd. A big opportunity for Barry if

:17:30. > :17:47.he can make the most of it. Oh, dear.

:17:48. > :17:57.Judd beat Barry 6-2 in the semifinals of the English Open

:17:58. > :18:00.earlier this season. Is this his chance to go into the interval 3-1

:18:01. > :18:19.up? I don't think Judd will be too

:18:20. > :18:25.concerned that he has not got the position on the cut. After this

:18:26. > :19:23.snooker, he could be a frame-winner anyway.

:19:24. > :19:38.REFEREE: a foul and a miss. Judd Trump, seven.

:19:39. > :19:47.There was not much certainty in Barry's demeanour and body language

:19:48. > :19:56.when he got down on the cue ball at the first time of asking. He's still

:19:57. > :20:20.having a good, long, hard think about this one.

:20:21. > :20:27.REFEREE: Foul and a miss. I guess when you have had one of the

:20:28. > :20:32.biggest wins in your career a couple of days ago, you can afford to be a

:20:33. > :20:46.little bit generous. With your reactions. Here he goes again.

:20:47. > :22:00.Third time of asking but can Judd Trump now finished the frame?

:22:01. > :22:32.Still 67 on. He's almost there, Judd, in this frame, but not quite.

:22:33. > :22:39.It was an awkward pink to the middle left.

:22:40. > :22:49.Superb! Absolutely superb! Especially bearing in mind how

:22:50. > :23:03.little of the cue ball he could control.

:23:04. > :23:15.So Barry requires a stinker -- a snooker. If he can't get one, Trump

:23:16. > :23:32.will take a 3-1 lead into the interval.

:23:33. > :23:42.We have had some showboating from Judd in the previous frames.

:23:43. > :23:53.Spectacular from Barry, but he does still need a snooker. And Barry

:23:54. > :23:58.walking straight off, Judd Trump goes in 3-1 ahead.

:23:59. > :24:06.And he will be very happy to be doing so, some clear blue water

:24:07. > :24:10.between these two and it is remembered the best of nine, so the

:24:11. > :24:17.first to 5 wins it as they head into the interval. Where are we, Willie?

:24:18. > :24:21.It is so hard to visualise what is happening in this game, we have seen

:24:22. > :24:29.unbelievable pots from Judd and easy misses. 50 points in front here and

:24:30. > :24:34.he has a chance to get the pink in the middle and he misses it. This is

:24:35. > :24:38.the pink. If he pots the pink, he wins the frame.

:24:39. > :24:46.He thinks he only has to pot this and he has won but he lacks

:24:47. > :24:49.concentration. He's tight on the cushion and gets a long red that

:24:50. > :24:55.nobody else would go for, and that is what he does, he's so

:24:56. > :24:59.inconsistent. But at his best, he's very hard to beat. But at the minute

:25:00. > :25:05.he's vulnerable and Barry Hawkins should have won the first game, Judd

:25:06. > :25:09.was in front but he should have won. He got the second, it is the best of

:25:10. > :25:13.nine, they have an interval and they may go into the practice room, but I

:25:14. > :25:19.can see Barry coming into the room to practise.

:25:20. > :25:26.Is Trump more nervous of Hawkins? It could be coming he beat him in the

:25:27. > :25:31.Grand Prix a couple of weeks ago, so he has previous of losing against

:25:32. > :25:36.Hawkins, but they are close in matches won, 4-3, Hawkins. From what

:25:37. > :25:40.we have seen this week, Judd would be the favourite, Barry has only

:25:41. > :25:44.lost two frames and he has had a reasonable draw in this tournament

:25:45. > :25:48.and Judd has played slightly the better players. There's still a lot

:25:49. > :25:53.of snooker in this match and 3-1 is not too bad. If Trump makes a good

:25:54. > :25:58.start to the second session and gets another frame, you would back him to

:25:59. > :26:04.go all away? If he gets the four before Barry gets three, I think it

:26:05. > :26:07.is Trump's to win. We will rejoin the match shortly for the second

:26:08. > :26:13.session. The snooker season never really seems to end, so many

:26:14. > :26:17.tournaments on the circuit these days, but officially the 2016-2017

:26:18. > :26:20.season started back in June, so let's remind you of who has won what

:26:21. > :28:33.this year. Such a busy season, so many

:28:34. > :28:37.tournaments these days and what that did not show was how many M hours

:28:38. > :28:42.they have clocked up getting around the world to play. 13 different

:28:43. > :28:46.winners we have had this season and surprise ones as well, Anthony

:28:47. > :28:52.McGill in the German Masters at the age of 45 and Mark King winning his

:28:53. > :28:56.first title and Liang Wenbo, what does it tell us about the state of

:28:57. > :29:00.the game? Is it healthy to have so many different winners? It is

:29:01. > :29:05.healthy but I believe the best-of-7 is not enough of a test, why not the

:29:06. > :29:10.best of nine with no interval? It is like playing golf, one round instead

:29:11. > :29:15.of four and the player who wins... The thing I have noticed more, how

:29:16. > :29:19.many players are going in and out of form so quickly? We saw Higgins

:29:20. > :29:24.winning back-to-back tournaments and Higgins, people go out of form so

:29:25. > :29:30.quickly -- and Hawkins. Barry Hearn is quite content with the best-of-7

:29:31. > :29:34.format, I know. Yes, he seems to be and Barry Hawkins is having a

:29:35. > :29:37.practice ahead of the second session behind here. Barry Hearn has been

:29:38. > :29:42.quoted today as saying this highlights the strength and depth

:29:43. > :29:46.and that the fear factor has gone, the lower ranked players believe

:29:47. > :29:50.they can beat the Best regardless of the draw structure, agree? I agree

:29:51. > :29:55.with that because the reason is because they play each other week in

:29:56. > :29:58.and week out, in the 1980s, we had sometimes a month between

:29:59. > :30:02.tournaments and somebody like Steve Davis who won the previous

:30:03. > :30:07.tournament would play a little apprehensive. They play each other

:30:08. > :30:11.week in and week out and not many players have not played the best

:30:12. > :30:15.players, they have that many tournaments, and from a jaw, there's

:30:16. > :30:20.a chance you will played the best players from the world.

:30:21. > :30:30.Some players feel they are suffering burn-out. It is a common complaint.

:30:31. > :30:34.Any player in form for more than two tournaments in a row will burn out.

:30:35. > :30:39.I am talking about the top 16 players. They can earn enough to not

:30:40. > :30:43.play every tournament. The players at the bottom, Scott Donaldson said

:30:44. > :30:48.I was just happy to get rid of the first round so I could get some

:30:49. > :30:53.money. He was surprised to get to the semifinal. In the top 120 it is

:30:54. > :30:58.hard to believe you can win every tournament. It is impossible for

:30:59. > :31:05.some, but there are a lot of very good players. We talked about it

:31:06. > :31:12.early on, they need ?30,000 a year to break even. I wonder what your

:31:13. > :31:19.handwriting would tell us if you were to scribble something down now.

:31:20. > :31:23.Very illiterate. The BBC has been using an expert to analyse the

:31:24. > :31:34.handwriting of the top snooker players. Let's find out what Judd

:31:35. > :31:38.Trump's says about him. This writing his capital letters and that means

:31:39. > :31:43.somebody who is slightly protecting the image. It is not especially

:31:44. > :31:49.large. It is about five millimetres and it is middle zone. That is about

:31:50. > :31:54.somebody who wants to get on with things and they are trying to be

:31:55. > :31:58.sociable. When you look at the writing, it has a wide left margin

:31:59. > :32:07.and it is quite straight. That is somebody who has very high standards

:32:08. > :32:12.and once to slightly reserve. They might want to act on presents. They

:32:13. > :32:16.are the sort of person who might have studied the snooker Masters and

:32:17. > :32:24.learned from them because this is a delightfully well written piece.

:32:25. > :32:32.Here is somebody who has got themselves well under control. Often

:32:33. > :32:35.you have come with right slant writing, head writing. With that

:32:36. > :32:40.song writing it is known as head of writing. Here is somebody who has

:32:41. > :32:46.had a hard right in balance. Around this writing the awkward if you

:32:47. > :32:54.double strokes. You have an extra EU going in here. And ecstasy. We have

:32:55. > :32:59.some strong writing pressing through the page. When you have an

:33:00. > :33:03.overriding like this, it is a sign the compulsiveness. Here is somebody

:33:04. > :33:09.who will practice strongly for a long time to make sure they get it

:33:10. > :33:13.absolutely right. I want to move the signature, which is phenomenal. It

:33:14. > :33:19.is very tall, 30 millimetres, when you'd expect it to be about ten. It

:33:20. > :33:23.has a wonderful right slant, where's the actual writing is more

:33:24. > :33:27.controlled, bright. When you meet this person, they are somebody who

:33:28. > :33:36.can instinctively respond to other people. It has quite remarkably

:33:37. > :33:42.sharp points. When you have points in writing that is written with such

:33:43. > :33:46.fluency, such speed, would you have this intelligence and speak, you

:33:47. > :33:51.have tremendously rapid comprehensive thinking. Somebody who

:33:52. > :33:55.can grasp ideas instantly and take swift advantage of any

:33:56. > :34:07.opportunities. An extremely fluent, efficient player. Fascinating stuff

:34:08. > :34:11.and quick. I dread to think what he would make of the dreadful scrawl on

:34:12. > :34:15.this piece of paper. Another feature for you, which is really

:34:16. > :34:20.entertaining, this is driving with Davis. Steve Davis has been taking

:34:21. > :34:34.the grid and the good of snooker and for a spin. Barry Hawkins hop in the

:34:35. > :34:47.passenger seat for his turn. Only one order a taxi?

:34:48. > :35:14.I have driven a car like this since the accident.

:35:15. > :35:30.Did you pass your test? I did, I passed first time. Had any

:35:31. > :35:41.accidents? A couple of close ones. I had a close one in a retail

:35:42. > :35:52.corporate. -- car pot. I nearly had another accident there. Do you know

:35:53. > :36:10.your blood type? No, I don't. And you are in a car with me? I might

:36:11. > :36:17.bring my mum. Some, you were adopted. I'm in a car with Steve

:36:18. > :36:27.Davis. With blood type I? Did you know? No, Zhou doesn't have a clue.

:36:28. > :36:30.He nearly had an accident. It was just in case I needed some blood.

:36:31. > :36:49.Zhou don't even know her own. Which reality show would you do one?

:36:50. > :36:59.Probably the jungle, I should imagine. Strictly? No, do I do have

:37:00. > :37:04.some ships. Me and joke and through some ships on the dance floor. Well,

:37:05. > :37:11.we think we can. And it's rid of dance music or stuff. Once the Beeb

:37:12. > :37:19.gets going, that is us away. We must look like old men. It doesn't happen

:37:20. > :37:26.that often. We are so busy we don't get a chance. We picture sure we

:37:27. > :37:33.enjoyed ourselves when we go out. Not the cooking programmes? I am not

:37:34. > :37:42.much of a cook. What about gardening? I do the gardening. Would

:37:43. > :37:50.you brush up the leaves in the winter time? That is sad, surely? We

:37:51. > :38:07.tidied up the leaves a little bit. My Mrs tidies them.

:38:08. > :38:20.I don't mind doing things like that. I enjoyed that. I am lost. I have

:38:21. > :38:39.gone past that. It is only a small tent. I might have to do another

:38:40. > :38:55.U-turn. Thank you for taking me good work. -- taking me to work. Never

:38:56. > :38:59.looked entirely comfortable, Barry Hawkins in the company of Steve

:39:00. > :39:05.Davis. It is almost time to rejoin him in his natural habitat. Our

:39:06. > :39:08.coverage of this second quarterfinal here in Cardiff continuing as they

:39:09. > :39:13.return for the second session. Scott Donaldson already through to the

:39:14. > :39:27.semifinals. You could join him? Let's go live to session to. Very

:39:28. > :39:41.entertaining watching that. Barry Hawkins doing gardening. A release

:39:42. > :39:48.from the pressure of the table. He has got plenty to do in this match.

:39:49. > :39:53.Numerous parents from both players before the interval. It is Judd who

:39:54. > :40:03.has been very handy lead at the moment. Barry up against it a little

:40:04. > :40:10.bit here. It is important, this frame, for Barry Hawkins. He could

:40:11. > :40:18.get right back into the match. He has a great deal of capability. You

:40:19. > :40:23.must have practised that one. Where did that come from? It is sort of

:40:24. > :40:41.spontaneous. It is called with. The life and times of Dominic Dale.

:40:42. > :40:47.As well as playing this week, we should pass on our congratulations.

:40:48. > :40:52.The rumour is you got down on one knee on Valentine's day and you are

:40:53. > :40:59.now a taken man. I thought you're congratulating me for winning two

:41:00. > :41:12.matches. Yes, I am engaged to my wife to be Cindy. Yes, on Valentines

:41:13. > :41:27.night, I proposed. Thank goodness Zhou said yes. Judd Trump, the

:41:28. > :41:39.legendary figure. The cue ball bouncing down the table. He is five

:41:40. > :41:45.out of five on his long pots. Remember how he took the public

:41:46. > :41:50.imagination in 2011 with some legendary long pots at the Crucible,

:41:51. > :42:03.but the fabulous red that he couldn't follow up. Barry Hawkins

:42:04. > :42:05.just assessing whether this is going to turn into a good opportunity or

:42:06. > :42:26.not. Surely he has to win this frame to

:42:27. > :42:34.stop Judd's momentum. It is an important one because 4-1 in a best

:42:35. > :42:37.of nine could be real trouble. Opponent has great belief they will

:42:38. > :42:40.go on and win the match. You, on the other hand, face a small confidence

:42:41. > :43:01.crisis. When you look at the matches these

:43:02. > :43:07.two have played, this season, when the chest beating the odds are it

:43:08. > :43:11.has been by a comprehensive margin. They both played some great snooker

:43:12. > :43:17.in the last few months. When Judd beat Barry it was 6-2 at the English

:43:18. > :43:24.open and Barry Posner win was 4-1. When they have the measure of the

:43:25. > :43:29.other player it has been quite an emphatic scoreline. You would have

:43:30. > :43:34.thought, bearing in mind, both of top of the rankings, that their most

:43:35. > :43:42.recent meetings would be their closest, but that isn't the case. He

:43:43. > :43:47.has developed if you red is there a nicely. This is into the left-hand

:43:48. > :43:51.corner. He just has to push through the pack for position on the black.

:43:52. > :43:58.You never quite know whether it will push through them and, it didn't go

:43:59. > :44:04.quite far enough. He has left himself an awkward position now. It

:44:05. > :44:06.is a very thin black. Being left-handed he can reach it all

:44:07. > :45:03.right. That was an excellent red from Barry

:45:04. > :45:07.to keep the break going. He is unfortunate to be so severely

:45:08. > :45:10.hampered by the yellow. If he does run this blew in, it will

:45:11. > :45:18.automatically be on a red into the right-hand corner. He just needs to

:45:19. > :45:23.get the pace right. He would have liked another couple of inches on

:45:24. > :45:29.the cue ball. That is the red he would like to be on. Still on, but

:45:30. > :45:47.very thin. You might prefer the red into the right centre instead.

:45:48. > :45:58.Well, it was not easy. Ordinarily I would say it is safe, but not much

:45:59. > :46:09.is. You'd never know if he will take something on and get it.

:46:10. > :46:22.He's over Pol Pot 's success is creeping up to 190. -- his overall

:46:23. > :46:36.pot success. It has served him well in this match. Ideally he would want

:46:37. > :46:39.to be up toward the middle 90s. He missed a feud in the first couple of

:46:40. > :46:53.frames and seems to have settled down.

:46:54. > :46:57.Barry has had three out of five long pots successful. He cannot see that

:46:58. > :47:16.red, anyway. Parry card that much too thickly.

:47:17. > :47:26.There are a couple of pots here for Judd. Fortunately for Barry, he

:47:27. > :47:31.missed it. Just wondering if there is a possibility for a plug into the

:47:32. > :47:43.right centre pocket. There is a group of six that could be close.

:47:44. > :47:47.They are set for the bottom jaw, but from

:47:48. > :47:53.where Barry is playing it from, I think this plan could be made. Two

:47:54. > :47:55.hit the first it could push the second red higher up and into the

:47:56. > :49:18.pocket. Too high. Both of these players have been in

:49:19. > :49:23.the Welsh Open semifinal before. Judd lost out to McGuire in 2013

:49:24. > :49:32.when Stephen went on to beat in the decider. It shows you how long Barry

:49:33. > :49:41.Hawkins has been around. He made the first of his three semifinals 12

:49:42. > :49:53.years ago. Reached the last four in 2004 and 2006. His most recent good

:49:54. > :49:58.run here came in 2014. Two of his three semifinals were lost to run

:49:59. > :50:06.your Southern. He went on to lift the famous ground. Scott Donaldson

:50:07. > :50:14.lies in wait for the winner of this one. A brilliant story for the

:50:15. > :50:19.22-year-old from Paris. He said he is not bothered which of these two

:50:20. > :50:24.he faces. I think he was a little bit shell-shocked in the aftermath

:50:25. > :50:39.of his victory over the teenager from China.

:50:40. > :50:53.The 72 thin. Instead of killing the pace of the cue ball consultant cue

:50:54. > :50:57.ball passed on to the baulk cushion. It is skimmed off into the brown

:50:58. > :51:10.which has left Barry Hawkins this great opportunity here. He just

:51:11. > :51:15.caught that too thin. Barry Hawkins, for the first time in this match, he

:51:16. > :51:27.has the lead early on. He will be hoping he can win it from here.

:51:28. > :51:35.He hasn't controlled the cue ball well enough. This Lakmal is very

:51:36. > :52:01.difficult. That is if he even takes it on.

:52:02. > :52:25.That look like it was staying up at one stage. Dropped in.

:52:26. > :52:34.We have seen a pattern in this match. The players have produced

:52:35. > :52:41.what was almost a frame-winning clearance and then broken down in

:52:42. > :52:50.the 40s and 50s. Very having the opportunity here to build on the

:52:51. > :52:58.early break of 36. The big frame this. Maybe he can start to put Judd

:52:59. > :52:59.Trump under a little bit of pressure. Up until now it has been

:53:00. > :53:34.the other way around. He is almost there in this frame

:53:35. > :53:48.now. He will be delighted to have clawed

:53:49. > :54:14.one back. This time it is Judd left with a

:54:15. > :54:20.little bit to ponder. He will still lead, but Barry has now got a

:54:21. > :54:22.foothold in this match. After he missed quite a few big shots before

:54:23. > :55:15.the interval. A break of 52. That has been enough

:55:16. > :55:27.to get back to within one of Judd Trump. 3-2.

:55:28. > :55:34.I had a little green bike and felt offered. That sticks in my mind. I

:55:35. > :55:40.think it was in a school playground or a little playground on an estate

:55:41. > :55:44.where I lived. I try to be polite to most people just treat people how

:55:45. > :55:56.I'd like be treated. I sought after I lose. That is a bad quality. I am

:55:57. > :56:03.not the most romantic person. I took to massacre -- Mexico when we first

:56:04. > :56:07.got together. Michael Holt told me how to cook it is. It is spaghetti

:56:08. > :56:20.with chicken. I could do that and the wife seems to like it. Go to

:56:21. > :56:26.space. Go to Vegas is another one. I quite like Susanna Reid in the

:56:27. > :56:38.morning. She sticks in my mind at the minute.

:56:39. > :56:48.Likes a Khare and watching Susanna Reid in the morning. Sounds like an

:56:49. > :56:52.intriguing dish he has picked up from Michael Holt. Has he giving you

:56:53. > :56:58.any good recipes or has it been the other way around. Michael hasn't

:56:59. > :57:09.given me any of his signature dishes to cook. He has given me some other

:57:10. > :57:18.advice though. Such a nice guy, Barry, and so modest. Maybe in the

:57:19. > :57:22.past, people have thought he was too nice to win. Certainly his success

:57:23. > :57:53.in recent years has proved that is not the case.

:57:54. > :58:10.Judd Trump still leads, but Barry Hawkins is now back in this match.

:58:11. > :58:19.Good crowd here. Are they going to be treated to a classic finale here

:58:20. > :58:23.in this battle for the Welsh Open semifinals? They are two of the

:58:24. > :58:33.three best ranked players still in the championship. It is guaranteed

:58:34. > :58:41.?10,000 for the quarters. The guaranteed 24 making the semis. Not

:58:42. > :58:44.quite so relevant for these guys as it would be for the likes of Scott

:58:45. > :58:52.Donaldson with the extra ?10,000 sees him move a long way up the

:58:53. > :59:03.rankings. You get outside the top 40. Scott Donaldson would obviously

:59:04. > :59:10.be the outsider on paper, whether he faces Barry Hawkins or Judd Trump,

:59:11. > :59:14.but the 22 from Paris played some fabulous snooker in what was the

:59:15. > :59:19.biggest match of his life earlier, bearing in mind that these two have

:59:20. > :59:24.gifted each other if you opportunities. Donaldson has nothing

:59:25. > :59:31.to fear, whoever he plays. Certainly. If he can play his best

:59:32. > :59:36.game and play something like his best snooker he is more than capable

:59:37. > :59:40.of beating anybody. When you are playing players like Barry Hawkins

:59:41. > :59:46.and Judd Trump, they put you under pressure so often it can be

:59:47. > :59:51.difficult to find the best game. It depends on how good you are

:59:52. > :59:56.mentally, if you are in the right frame of mind, you are can come in

:59:57. > :59:58.control of situations. That is what snooker does to you. It can put you

:59:59. > :00:09.under pressure. He's obviously playing some great

:00:10. > :00:51.snooker to be in the semifinals. A little bit of a change in this

:00:52. > :00:56.match now, the way things are going. That interval has given Barry time

:00:57. > :01:09.to reflect on things and he has come out with some good stuff. He has got

:01:10. > :01:13.Judd Trump thinking now. As things stand, you would fancy this match to

:01:14. > :01:26.be level at the end of this frame if they can just pot some more pots and

:01:27. > :01:29.colours. Just one more loose red available at the moment after this,

:01:30. > :01:35.so he will be looking at an angle quickly and black or blue to go into

:01:36. > :01:46.that pack of reds and develop further scoring opportunities.

:01:47. > :01:53.We have seen a couple of spells in the last frames were Judd has been

:01:54. > :01:58.frozen out of the table. He now has not potted a ball for over 15

:01:59. > :02:15.minutes. He played that very well, Barry

:02:16. > :02:22.Hawkins. He will be hoping he's on the red above the black, into this

:02:23. > :02:26.right corner. Maybe he has won into this right centre. Not the best

:02:27. > :02:31.angle on this red, he has to push through a pack of reds to get back

:02:32. > :02:38.on the black. It looks tight from here if this red goes, it obviously

:02:39. > :02:49.does. And just the cannon. Oh, he has. He looks a different player

:02:50. > :03:31.post-interval. Plenty still available here. I'm

:03:32. > :03:38.assuming he has no issues with this black, and this would become his

:03:39. > :03:40.highest break of the match so far. A break of 60 in the second frame to

:03:41. > :04:10.level the match. 1-1. It did sound a little heavy, that

:04:11. > :04:16.contact. It was not a bad kick, but a sidekick nevertheless. Having the

:04:17. > :04:22.cue ball cleaned, does not want to get this red because it is vital.

:04:23. > :04:28.Harry does not want interruption because of a mobile phone going off.

:04:29. > :04:34.Very important you pots this red because if he were to miss it, the

:04:35. > :04:39.way these reds opposition, it would not be too difficult for Judd to get

:04:40. > :04:52.back into this frame. It has gone in. One more red, to level things up

:04:53. > :05:00.at 3-3. From 3-1 up, it looks as though Barry is going to get back on

:05:01. > :05:06.level terms with Judd. Plenty for the Bristolians to ponder.

:05:07. > :05:20.Marginally, the bookies favourite for the title. Well, they're the two

:05:21. > :05:24.matches this season have not come close, this certainly looks as

:05:25. > :05:45.though it will be. -- their other two matches.

:05:46. > :05:52.Only five reds on, only 67 available. And Judd is facing the

:05:53. > :06:20.prospect here of having to dig deep. A little not. One stage, it looked

:06:21. > :06:24.as though he might come back. It would be a big margin. But Barry

:06:25. > :06:27.Hawkins has ensured we are all square after six.

:06:28. > :06:34.Description of the finger by Judd Trump, it says it all after Hawkins

:06:35. > :06:42.performing really well after the interval. If you were hoping to see

:06:43. > :06:46.A Place Called Home, it will be broadcast on Monday, we are staying

:06:47. > :06:51.with this match until six o'clock assuming it goes that far. If it is

:06:52. > :06:55.still going on then, you can see the conclusion on the red button so you

:06:56. > :07:01.don't miss a second of this game. Willie, the way it is going, it

:07:02. > :07:04.could still be going on at six p.m., it is a great come back. I think the

:07:05. > :07:09.match will finish whatever happens before six p.m.. We know what a

:07:10. > :07:13.great player Judd Trump is and he misses easy balls now and again,

:07:14. > :07:18.he's not winning a frame at one visit. You can't get 40s and 50s at

:07:19. > :07:23.this level. Both players have gone in thinking they are favourite to

:07:24. > :07:28.get to another final and they are not playing this match out. It is

:07:29. > :07:32.bits and pieces. Barry Hawkins, the last two frames, he has set his

:07:33. > :07:36.stall out. Judd Trump has to win this frame or he might be going

:07:37. > :07:40.home. You'd think it is that crucial? Barry came and he practised

:07:41. > :07:45.during the interval and Judd might have benefited from a final ten

:07:46. > :07:49.minutes here as well. At 3-1 in front, you sometimes want to think

:07:50. > :07:55.of the positive and not go on the practice table because if you mess,

:07:56. > :07:58.you think about the negatives. Judd Trump is not winning a frame in one

:07:59. > :08:02.visit, which you have to do at this level. We talked about how tired

:08:03. > :08:08.Barry might be after winning the World Grand Prix, a hectic couple of

:08:09. > :08:11.weeks. What point do you get tired mentally? The adrenaline keeps you

:08:12. > :08:15.going against somebody like Judd Trump. Against a lower ranked

:08:16. > :08:20.player, you think about fatigue, but against the top ten seeds, you have

:08:21. > :08:24.to play well. He will not feel lethargic and like he's getting

:08:25. > :08:28.tired. If he won this match and went into the semifinal against Scotland

:08:29. > :08:36.he started missing shots, he might be feeling tired. The body language

:08:37. > :08:42.books Ursula XII positive as far as Harry is concerned. Trump to break

:08:43. > :08:56.in frame seven. -- looks fairly positive.

:08:57. > :09:07.So a best of three now. For a place in the Welsh Open semifinals. And is

:09:08. > :09:16.the momentum back with Barry Hawkins? Having turned round a 3-1

:09:17. > :09:24.deficit, the now be all square. Do you think he has the edge at this

:09:25. > :09:27.stage? Possibly. I mean, he has won the last two frames so he has the

:09:28. > :09:34.momentum, but a lot of it will depend on Judd. If Judd can not let

:09:35. > :09:36.the loss of those two frames affect him, I would not be surprised to see

:09:37. > :10:06.this go the distance. A great indication of Barry's

:10:07. > :10:11.confidence. Four out of seven of the long pots, Judd is still five from

:10:12. > :10:31.five. How unlucky was that?! Yes, a little

:10:32. > :10:41.unfortunate for Barry, he found the gap between those reds and that

:10:42. > :10:48.loose one. It doesn't mean, of course, if he got a cannon on the

:10:49. > :10:53.reds, he would have landed on one anyway. Both players would like to

:10:54. > :11:00.see the black in the open, I feel. Slightly tied up at present. That

:11:01. > :11:05.cue ball did well for Barry, just stuck in behind the green to prevent

:11:06. > :11:14.Judd taking this long red into the right corner.

:11:15. > :11:29.25 minutes now in this match since Judd Trump last potted a ball.

:11:30. > :11:36.REFEREE: A foul and a miss. Barry Hawkins, four. You could

:11:37. > :11:47.almost hear the sighing in the arena is that slowed.

:11:48. > :11:57.So some questions being asked of Judd Trump here, having come through

:11:58. > :12:04.his four previous matches and conceding only four frames. It has

:12:05. > :12:05.been pretty straightforward so far, but that was never going to be the

:12:06. > :12:19.case against Barry Hawkins. Judd wanting to make absolutely

:12:20. > :12:27.certain the cue ball is back where it should be.

:12:28. > :12:33.I think it was an inch or two further towards the green, it is

:12:34. > :13:00.getting closer. It doesn't make too much difference

:13:01. > :13:05.if the cue ball is an inch or two out, as long as the players played

:13:06. > :13:18.the same shot as Judd did, it would not have made any difference really.

:13:19. > :13:21.The referee did have a look to check whether that was a touching ball. It

:13:22. > :13:37.was close, but not quite. Yes, Barry was having a close look

:13:38. > :13:41.to see if this red was on into the green pocket, but it is not, just a

:13:42. > :14:06.safety, maybe try to get the cue ball in behind the yellow.

:14:07. > :14:14.Well, he's an expert on the long pots, but that is a tall order,

:14:15. > :14:20.surely, especially going in the position of the cue ball. Yes, I'm

:14:21. > :14:25.not quite sure he can get through to the potting angle, it is very tight,

:14:26. > :14:33.he has clipped the reds and is coming off the top cushion to skim

:14:34. > :14:36.the reds. Not many players play that shot but Judd is one of the best at

:14:37. > :15:30.it. Great shot. Very well judged by the world No 8.

:15:31. > :15:36.Now, his he going to have a go here? Yes, I think he is forced to. Can't

:15:37. > :15:45.play much of a safety from where Barry's left that cue ball. There is

:15:46. > :15:51.a red on into the left centre pocket. If the red by the black

:15:52. > :16:16.doesn't pot there may not be too much harm done here for Judd.

:16:17. > :16:26.Excellent cutback from Barry. I think he will be a little

:16:27. > :16:30.disappointed not to get position on a baulk colour here, having potted

:16:31. > :16:35.it. Brown is on, but is it straight enough to allow a position on one of

:16:36. > :16:58.reds? Well tried to play the deep screw

:16:59. > :17:02.shot into baulk for red. But it wasn't played accurately enough to

:17:03. > :17:11.stay in the pocket at the speed that he played it at.

:17:12. > :17:19.It has been creeping up the amount of time since Judd Trump last potted

:17:20. > :17:22.a ball. It was well over 25 minutes when he went for that red. Now over

:17:23. > :17:32.half an hour. Uncharacteristic statistics from

:17:33. > :17:48.Judd. Judd Trump needs to do something

:17:49. > :17:54.here to try and regain some table time at the very least in this

:17:55. > :18:10.match. It has been all Barry since the interval. Breaks of 36 and 52.

:18:11. > :18:31.But Judd's safety was a good one and it has forced a bit of an error out

:18:32. > :18:36.of Barry Hawkins. He has a thin cutback into the right corner. He

:18:37. > :18:38.will probably like to play for the yellow. If he does so he misses and

:18:39. > :19:10.pot and he may get away with it. Just an inch too hard. But if he

:19:11. > :19:13.gets a snooker in tight behind the green here, he will have Barry in a

:19:14. > :19:56.lot of trouble. Really awkward situation. Multiple

:19:57. > :20:21.cushions. He will try and lay up behind the

:20:22. > :20:30.red next toot the black probably. This is pacy. Foul. A good effort, 7

:20:31. > :20:34.points will be awarded to Judd for having contacted the black there.

:20:35. > :20:39.But he didn't leave Judd an easy red to start with. So having the cue

:20:40. > :20:45.ball replaced and Barry can have another go. He doesn't want to make

:20:46. > :21:15.contact with the red and knock it on for one of the corner pockets.

:21:16. > :21:37.Judd had a long look, but he has asked Jan Shears to put the cue ball

:21:38. > :21:56.back for a third attempt for Barry Hawkins.

:21:57. > :22:07.What Judd really wants is for Barry to leave him on. Foul. And a miss.

:22:08. > :22:12.That is a nightmare for Barry. So close to getting line and length

:22:13. > :22:18.perfect there. But just gone behind the back of the red to leave an easy

:22:19. > :22:22.starter for Judd. That is the type of misfortune that can cost you a

:22:23. > :23:08.frame and what a crucial frame this is.

:23:09. > :23:21.Really important visit to the table this for Judd Trump, having given up

:23:22. > :23:23.a 3-1 advantage and hardly having any time on the table since the

:23:24. > :23:30.interval. These are big moments. One good break here and Trump is

:23:31. > :23:54.within one of the victory. Could play a cannon into the four

:23:55. > :23:56.reds, which he has done. He has run through them there amazingly and

:23:57. > :24:04.very close to being on nothing. He can still get through the gap

:24:05. > :24:20.there. So no problems. This cue ball just sort of filtered

:24:21. > :24:27.through that little cluster of reds, didn't it? It was OK. He may have to

:24:28. > :24:28.play another cannon, because they're all in one another's way these

:24:29. > :24:50.balls. There is a plant that is available.

:24:51. > :25:07.Judd may play for it here. He could also play a cannon into the

:25:08. > :25:10.three reds. That is what he has done. Well could have worked out a

:25:11. > :25:45.little better for him. The first break of any note he has

:25:46. > :25:52.had since the fourth frame. It could be coming at an absolutely crucial

:25:53. > :25:58.time. Another phone ringing! Totally unacceptable.

:25:59. > :26:24.To the players and the fellow audience members.

:26:25. > :26:41.So many wobbles, we lost count! But it dropped. That is the most

:26:42. > :26:47.important thing. I think that black ball's a bit

:26:48. > :27:21.dizzy! He has broken down on 45. Maybe a

:27:22. > :27:26.close call with that black momentarily distracted him. Still a

:27:27. > :27:33.long way to go for Barry Hawkins in this frame. But just when he looked

:27:34. > :27:35.as though he was getting over the line in this seventh frame, it is a

:27:36. > :27:50.glimmer of light here for Barry. I didn't feel Judd pushed the boat

:27:51. > :27:56.out there by missing that red. It looked a difficult pot, because he

:27:57. > :28:00.missed it by so far, but it is one I probably fancied him to get. It

:28:01. > :28:05.wasn't particularly difficulty. He probably had a mind on position as

:28:06. > :28:06.well for his next colour. Obviously the position of match is an

:28:07. > :28:19.important pot. A little surprised at Barry's choice

:28:20. > :28:39.of safety. Because he was always going to push another red safe.

:28:40. > :28:48.Well, that wasn't Judd's fault. He had a thunderous kick on that red a

:28:49. > :29:05.that pushed the cue ball straight into the pocket there.

:29:06. > :29:12.Dominic, that must have happened to you at key times in a match, how

:29:13. > :29:20.difficult is it to put moments like that out of your mind? Well, very

:29:21. > :29:24.easy if it doesn't cost you a frame and give your opponent to get back

:29:25. > :29:35.into a crucial frame. Fortunately for Judd Barry missed that long red.

:29:36. > :29:41.Can't get through to those three, but can get to one of the reds on

:29:42. > :29:45.the right-hand side of the table. I'm a little concerned that the

:29:46. > :29:50.position of the reds is such that if Barry were to get an opportunity, he

:29:51. > :29:54.would definitely have a chance of taking the frame. Needs to be very

:29:55. > :29:58.careful here. Doesn't really want to play one of the two reds near the

:29:59. > :30:03.right-hand side cushion, because it would be difficult for Barry

:30:04. > :30:27.Hawkins. Not in great positions, but he might develop one here.

:30:28. > :30:51.Five reds. 67 on. Is he going to take this on? No. These are massive

:30:52. > :31:02.moments in this match. Can Judd Trump close this frame? Or will

:31:03. > :31:08.Barry Hawkins make him pay? For missing what was almost frame ball,

:31:09. > :31:23.bottom right. Unlucky to go in and off. -- in off. Forced into removing

:31:24. > :31:30.the red from the side cushion, fairly safe as things stand. The

:31:31. > :31:37.last thing Judd wanted was the double-kiss. An easy safety shot he

:31:38. > :31:40.was faced with, has to be said. But it's a catastrophe of eight

:31:41. > :31:50.double-kiss for Judd. He's left Barry Wright in amongst them now.

:31:51. > :31:53.Can Barry produce one of his great clearances? A little careful with

:31:54. > :31:57.the pot, didn't quite get the high side of the blue that he wanted. In

:31:58. > :32:25.and out of The Story Of baulk now. Any of these four reds,

:32:26. > :32:31.nice and open for Barry. What a visit this would be if he were able

:32:32. > :32:35.to nick this frame. Looked for all the world as though Judd would be

:32:36. > :32:49.the one moving within one of the women. -- living within one of the

:32:50. > :33:03.victory. The mistakes are allowing Barry back to the table.

:33:04. > :33:11.Two or three potential pitfalls here for Barry. One will be the red in

:33:12. > :33:16.the shot near the top cushion, which Barry will attempt to pot now. He's

:33:17. > :33:21.a little trait on it. The brown seems to be masking the green

:33:22. > :33:27.slightly. The paint is fairly near the cushion. Can only be played with

:33:28. > :33:35.slow pace into the middle pocket. APPLAUSE

:33:36. > :33:42.These other pots Barry will have to make in the course of a winning

:33:43. > :33:52.clearance. Still needs all the remaining balls.

:33:53. > :33:56.Actually, probably won't need the final black. Take a high valued

:33:57. > :34:20.colour here. Got to get a good angle here on the

:34:21. > :34:21.yellow so he can get position on the green, which is slightly awkward

:34:22. > :35:20.next to the brown. Judd Trump being forced to sit and

:35:21. > :35:29.watch, and he was so close. To moving 4-3 ahead.

:35:30. > :35:44.Assuming Barry Hawkins does make the most of the opportunity. Judd has to

:35:45. > :35:51.win the last two frames if he is to advance to a Welsh Open semifinal. A

:35:52. > :35:59.little wobble on the way in, but it was good. Barry didn't play a great

:36:00. > :36:05.green, potted slightly too quickly and not far enough across the table

:36:06. > :36:11.for the brown. Not great for Barry, faced with a missable blue under

:36:12. > :36:15.pressure. Has to try to get reasonably well on the pink because

:36:16. > :36:20.it's a fairly acute cut back into the left centre. But he doesn't need

:36:21. > :36:23.the black, which will help. Just blue and pink required to take the

:36:24. > :36:30.lead for the first time in this match. That's a great pot from

:36:31. > :36:45.Barry. Got the cue ball across the table nicely. Can easily miss these

:36:46. > :36:50.if you drop them in and have a kick. One good pot. Clean contact

:36:51. > :36:54.required. In off the near draw. Great performance from Barry Hawkins

:36:55. > :36:56.and a wonderful clearance after the Judd Trump mistake. He goes into the

:36:57. > :38:03.lead at a crucial stage, 4-3. STUDIO: The key stat as far as

:38:04. > :38:09.Hawkins is concerned, he leads Trump in the quarterfinal by 4-3.

:38:10. > :38:15.Fantastic for him, but what on earth has happened to Judd Trump? He keeps

:38:16. > :38:19.going 40 in front and losing. That's all that's missing from Judd, he is

:38:20. > :38:29.not killing off the frame in one visit. Hawkins isn't at his best but

:38:30. > :38:35.he has a B-game. We are not sure if Judd Trump has one. What does that

:38:36. > :38:38.mean? Scrap it out. He would rather go for a good shot rather than a

:38:39. > :38:41.safety shot when your back is against the wall. It's fine when you

:38:42. > :38:45.are winning, because nine out of ten you would knock them in. But he's

:38:46. > :38:48.not that at the moment because he's not playing great. Whether he should

:38:49. > :38:53.continue to push the boat out, it's hard to say. He's got where he is

:38:54. > :38:57.because of the way he plays, but he shouldn't change too much, apart

:38:58. > :39:04.from when he's not playing at his best, refuse the oblong pot. Hawkins

:39:05. > :39:10.beating Trump last week in the world Grand Prix. -- refuse the odd long

:39:11. > :39:17.pot. Hawkins might think he has a hold over him. When we were talking

:39:18. > :39:21.about the stats of the two players, he only turned professional nine

:39:22. > :39:24.years after Hawkins, Miles in front on this entry breaks, but in the

:39:25. > :39:29.last year and a half Barry has improved from a very, very good

:39:30. > :39:33.player to a great player. Judd Trump came in as a great player, but

:39:34. > :39:39.hasn't gone the extra step yet to being one of the all-time greats. I

:39:40. > :39:44.think he's in the top four in the world, any time he plays, but is he

:39:45. > :39:49.going to be a consistent winner? At this moment, because he doesn't have

:39:50. > :39:52.the B-game, probably not. I put the point to Darren Morgan earlier in

:39:53. > :39:56.the week, what just Judd Trump have to do to be one of the all-time

:39:57. > :40:04.greats? He said he was, but I said, to be one of the very best. He has

:40:05. > :40:07.to win a World Championships. Look at Jimmy White, fantastic player,

:40:08. > :40:13.but beaten every time in the final in the World Championship, he can't

:40:14. > :40:17.be considered in the elite. But he hasn't won the triple Crown.

:40:18. > :40:22.Robertson and Selby, O'Sullivan, Murphy, they have all won the triple

:40:23. > :40:27.Crown. Until you have done that come you can't be considered one of the

:40:28. > :40:33.elite. Will he come to regret the way he didn't take the opportunities

:40:34. > :40:36.he had in the game, Judd Trump? Barry Hawkins breaking, 4-3 up on

:40:37. > :40:50.Judd Trump. COMMENTATOR: So the pressure is

:40:51. > :40:57.really on the sixth time ranking event champion Judd Trump. Looks

:40:58. > :41:02.like he's going for this. What a declaration of intent! At the start

:41:03. > :41:11.of what could be the last frame of the match.

:41:12. > :41:20.His long pots have certainly not let him down today. It's the fact he has

:41:21. > :41:32.broken down when on 49, 50, 40, and in the last frame, 45. Six out of

:41:33. > :41:34.seven on the long ones for Judd. Can he force this match into what would

:41:35. > :41:51.be a mouthwatering decider. From nothing, he's given himself a

:41:52. > :41:58.wonderful opportunity to amass quite a few points here. It has to be

:41:59. > :42:03.said, both players pot success during the course of the match is

:42:04. > :42:10.down at 86% each. And that is pretty low for both of the players,

:42:11. > :42:14.particularly Judd Trump. But when both of these players are at their

:42:15. > :42:26.best, the pot success could be in the mid-90s.

:42:27. > :42:34.Both players have attempted a similar number of pots. Barry

:42:35. > :42:44.Hawkins has missed 16 pots out of 117. Judd has played 111 pots in the

:42:45. > :42:46.course of this match, and has missed 15 of them. It's quite a lot,

:42:47. > :43:20.really. Judd Trump has lost the last three

:43:21. > :43:28.frames. Had the opportunity there to split the pack, but he wants to use

:43:29. > :43:37.the remaining reds Batard away from the main group. -- that are away.

:43:38. > :43:44.Twice they have gone to a decider before. Not this season. They have

:43:45. > :44:15.each won one of those. There will be a lot of people in the

:44:16. > :44:27.crowd here who would absolutely love to see this go all the way.

:44:28. > :44:42.That was Judd's attempted split. Three reds coming away from the main

:44:43. > :44:50.group. Broke down on 45 in the preceding frame, and that allowed

:44:51. > :45:05.Barry to get back in and put all the pressure on the world number four.

:45:06. > :45:14.The crowd applauded their, but there was a wince from Judd. Such a big

:45:15. > :45:22.visit to the table, this. No! He had made it difficult for himself, and

:45:23. > :45:28.once again, whilst at the table on a break of 40 plus he has broken down.

:45:29. > :45:34.45 in the last frame. 41 on this occasion. Wow. Barry Hawkins with

:45:35. > :45:54.one foot in the semifinals. APPLAUSE That was a massive pot from Barry.

:45:55. > :46:00.Tremendous pot on the red. Got on the correct side of the blue. Has

:46:01. > :46:03.gone into the pack. These reds couldn't have fanned out any better

:46:04. > :46:08.for Barry Hawkins. But has one red gone in front of the other to

:46:09. > :46:14.prevent Barry rolling a simple red into the left corner? I don't think

:46:15. > :46:27.that pots, you know. Now then, option to. -- option two. Trying the

:46:28. > :46:31.plant. Just missing. That just goes to show what fine margins are

:46:32. > :46:36.involved in winning and losing matches, because if Barry could have

:46:37. > :46:42.got through to that simple read, I would fancy him to clear up and win

:46:43. > :46:49.the match. As it is, I think we are well set for a deciding frame. --

:46:50. > :46:54.that simple red. From the point of view of the neutrals watching and

:46:55. > :47:02.here in the Motorpoint Arena, maybe they will get what they want. Judd

:47:03. > :47:07.will not have a better chance, having broken down on 41, to get

:47:08. > :47:19.right back in here with Barry having split the reds. This is a wonderful

:47:20. > :47:23.opportunity to take us all the way. Yes, I think most people found this

:47:24. > :47:29.a difficult match to call, and it has proved to be so. Once again,

:47:30. > :47:35.Judd, not ideally positioned on this colour. I think quite rightly just

:47:36. > :47:43.rolling the blue in, playing the simple red to the right-hand corner.

:47:44. > :47:55.Try to get on the pink if he can, to stay close to the next red. And

:47:56. > :47:57.that's about perfect. Just two or three more pots away now, to take

:47:58. > :48:16.this to a deciding frame. Red and pink and Barry would be left

:48:17. > :48:42.requiring snookers. So, barring a problem here for Judd,

:48:43. > :49:01.he will be coming out for a ninth frame.

:49:02. > :49:04.Now it's Barry 's turn to sit in a chair and ponder what might have

:49:05. > :49:24.been. McClean having split the pack and

:49:25. > :49:33.left it open, this is what Barry was hoping would continue working for

:49:34. > :49:41.him. After looking out of sorts, for most of the match after the

:49:42. > :49:45.interval, Judd's couple of breaks here, have ensured that we will go

:49:46. > :50:11.to a decider. First break of this frame, 41. Now

:50:12. > :50:15.on 48. He looks absolutely focused. The subtle shifts in psychological

:50:16. > :50:23.advantage in snooker are fascinating. Judd Trump stays up.

:50:24. > :50:28.Barry gives a little nod to the referee, and we are going all the

:50:29. > :50:38.way here between two of the very best in the world. Well, Dominic,

:50:39. > :50:45.it's a pleasure to watch. I'm sure it must be nervy to play in. Who's

:50:46. > :50:48.your money on? All you ask for during a deciding frame is an

:50:49. > :50:53.opportunity, because then the ball is in your court and you can do what

:50:54. > :50:58.you will with it. There's nothing worse than playing a deciding frame

:50:59. > :51:01.and not having an opportunity, making it easy, an early mistake to

:51:02. > :51:05.give your opponent an early chance who then makes a big break. It's

:51:06. > :51:32.very difficult to pick a winner. Hopefully you are enjoying this

:51:33. > :51:36.match as much as we are. We will stay on BBC Two until 6pm. And then

:51:37. > :51:43.to continue watching the thrilling climax of this battle to join Scott

:51:44. > :51:51.Donaldson in tomorrow's semifinals, after 6pm we will carry on online on

:51:52. > :51:59.the BBC website, and also on the red button.

:52:00. > :52:06.Judd Trump just looking on, preparing himself mentally for this

:52:07. > :52:16.deciding frame. Barry is doing the same thing, really. I imagine it

:52:17. > :52:22.will be a pretty tense affair. Good safety play will be very important.

:52:23. > :52:26.Shot choices are very important in a deciding frame. Mustn't push the

:52:27. > :52:33.boat out too far. I think Judd Trump will try to attack Barry Hawkins,

:52:34. > :52:43.will not want to get involved in a ET frame with lots of safety and

:52:44. > :52:49.tactics involved. -- in a bitty frame. The ninth and deciding frame.

:52:50. > :52:56.APPLAUSE The handshake, and Judd Trump,

:52:57. > :53:07.having lost his way after the interval, gets the deciding frame

:53:08. > :53:11.off to a flying start. Barry has made the semifinals here in Wales on

:53:12. > :53:17.three previous occasions, twice losing out to Ronnie O'Sullivan.

:53:18. > :53:24.Judd has also come one win away from a Welsh Open final. Just getting

:53:25. > :53:27.beaten by Stephen Maguire when the Scot won his fifth ranking crown in

:53:28. > :53:39.Newport in 2013. Difficult moments for the friends

:53:40. > :53:47.and family of both players, but from a neutral's point of view, this is

:53:48. > :53:55.where we hoped this match would take us. 3-1 up at the interval. Judd

:53:56. > :54:06.Trump making the most of the mistakes from Barry Hawkins. Barry

:54:07. > :54:14.moves 4-3 ahead, but it is Trump who has the early strike here in this

:54:15. > :54:19.deciding frame. He's up for this. Yes, you could see the focus in

:54:20. > :54:25.Judd's eyes as he sent the red into the right corner. But Barry will be

:54:26. > :54:31.disappointed with the shot he played previously to allow Judd the

:54:32. > :54:36.opportunity. That black is available into the right-hand corner, which

:54:37. > :54:44.will do Judd for now. Just looking to get on the red above the black to

:54:45. > :54:49.the left-hand side. If he pots that, he would be able to get the other

:54:50. > :54:57.red connects to the black. To the high side of the blue. Just about

:54:58. > :54:59.done. A choice of reds to play for here. Could go for the red to the

:55:00. > :55:07.left of the pack. That's a really good, close

:55:08. > :55:27.position. The third match between these two

:55:28. > :55:42.that has gone all the way. We haven't seen flawless snooker

:55:43. > :55:49.from these men this afternoon, but it's been thoroughly absorbing. And

:55:50. > :55:55.a real display of character by Judd Trump in the preceding frame to

:55:56. > :56:02.force us to go all the way. Will Barry Corr skins -- will Barry

:56:03. > :56:06.Hawkins adrenaline get him over the line here, or will he start to feel

:56:07. > :56:11.the effects of fatigue after his title winning performance in Preston

:56:12. > :56:16.on Sunday was Chamakh this is now his tenth match in 11 days. Judd

:56:17. > :56:31.really asking him the questions in this decider. -- -- on Sunday? . To

:56:32. > :56:37.more loose reds available to Trump before he goes into the pack of

:56:38. > :56:42.reds. Although there are two just behind the pink, that could be a

:56:43. > :56:49.plant in to the left-hand corner. He's just looking at them now.

:56:50. > :56:53.Definitely set slightly to the top jaw, but that won't be a problem to

:56:54. > :57:00.Judd. He could make that quite easily. Needs a decent shot here,

:57:01. > :57:11.he's a little bit high on this black.

:57:12. > :57:17.Cue did say Judd Trump would come out and be aggressive in this

:57:18. > :57:23.decider, Dominic. And there's another demonstration. How your

:57:24. > :57:35.luck? One has gone straight back. That's awkward. The cue ball, close

:57:36. > :57:39.to the blue. This blue would have to be a dead straight pot to be

:57:40. > :57:47.makeable from such close range. I think the green is a favourite.

:57:48. > :57:57.Prefers the yellow instead. Both very similar pots, though. He's

:57:58. > :58:02.missed it! So Barry does get back to the table. I think there's a red

:58:03. > :58:12.behind the pink that will pot. What a chance he's got here.

:58:13. > :58:21.Judd Trump breaking down on 32. Looked so good when he was at the

:58:22. > :58:26.table. Is that going to be the definitive mistake which allows

:58:27. > :58:37.Barry Hawkins to move into the semifinals?

:58:38. > :58:44.STUDIO: It's been a long old afternoon of quarterfinal snooker at

:58:45. > :58:49.the Motorpoint Arena. That's all we have time for on BBC Two Wales, but

:58:50. > :58:56.coverage continues on the red button and online at the BBC sport website.

:58:57. > :58:56.Back on TV at seven for the next quarterfinal between Stuart Bingham

:58:57. > :59:29.and Stuart Carrington. We Are you ready for the next

:59:30. > :59:33.ten years? I'm pregnant. You won't notice I'm gone.

:59:34. > :59:36.We've already started interviewing. People are always looking

:59:37. > :59:40.for the next hot young thing. I'm ready.

:59:41. > :59:42.It's only for a couple of months. She thinks you'll be away

:59:43. > :59:45.a lot longer than that.
