0:00:54 > 0:00:58Last night, Barry Hawkins said it was a dream and things like that do

0:00:58 > 0:01:05not happen to him. He reached the Crucible final after

0:01:05 > 0:01:0917 years as a professional. Can he complete a snooker fairytale in this

0:01:09 > 0:01:13year's Betfair World Championship? He has first got to spoil the

0:01:13 > 0:01:22narrative of one of the most compelling stories in any sport, the

0:01:22 > 0:01:29return of the Rocket, Ronnie O'Sullivan.

0:01:29 > 0:01:38I cannot believe it. It is a bit strange. It is unbelievable,

0:01:38 > 0:01:43unbelievable. I am here to compete. I would like to win. Everybody knows

0:01:43 > 0:01:53how good barriers. I remember playing him in the Regal Welsh and

0:01:53 > 0:01:58he pushed me. You always have more respect for an opponent when they

0:01:58 > 0:02:00take you all the way. He is a very efficient player. He is an

0:02:00 > 0:02:06unbelievable talent. I don't think he realises how good he is

0:02:06 > 0:02:10sometimes. Obviously, he says silly things in the press and stuff like

0:02:10 > 0:02:16that but as a player I have the utmost respect for him. He makes it

0:02:16 > 0:02:25look so easy. It is frightening sometimes. I have definitely got it

0:02:25 > 0:02:29all to do in the final. The word genius gets thrown about. Anybody

0:02:29 > 0:02:35who knows me knows how hard I have worked. I play it in a way that it

0:02:35 > 0:02:40looks like it comes easy but it does not. I had a year off. To win it,

0:02:40 > 0:02:44that would be a dream for me. what I have been dreaming of since I

0:02:44 > 0:02:52was a young boy. To make it to the final is unbelievable. To lift the

0:02:52 > 0:03:02trophy would be unbelievable, yeah. This is the story of the ultimate

0:03:02 > 0:03:03

0:03:03 > 0:03:04prize. This famous trophy has been in the hands of the best. Icons,

0:03:04 > 0:03:09smoother superstars, the Untouchables. Ray Reardon, Steve

0:03:09 > 0:03:13Davis, Stephen Hendry, Ronnie O'Sullivan. Their performances have

0:03:13 > 0:03:23lit up the Crucible. Ultimately, we knew how the story would -- in

0:03:23 > 0:03:25

0:03:25 > 0:03:31victory. But forget the fairytale at your peril. 1979, Terry Griffiths,

0:03:31 > 0:03:40world champion. 1985, Dennis Taylor, the black ball, millions of TV

0:03:40 > 0:03:43viewers. 1986, no ordinary Joe, Johnson beating the three times

0:03:43 > 0:03:51world champion, Steve Davis. 2005, Shaun Murphy beating Matthew

0:03:51 > 0:03:56Stevens. And so, the Barry Hawkins story continues. I'd is this one"

0:03:56 > 0:04:06Mac one of the great sporting comebacks of the time or the year of

0:04:06 > 0:04:12

0:04:12 > 0:04:22the? -- you would wonder what sort of state of mind he was in to start

0:04:22 > 0:04:23

0:04:23 > 0:04:32the game. That is a chance gone. He is going into them this time and

0:04:32 > 0:04:39this is perfect. Just the red needed. When he gets into the balls

0:04:39 > 0:04:44he is never out of position and he wins in one visit. I know it is a to

0:04:44 > 0:04:54date final but the first session was so important for Barry. -- I know it

0:04:54 > 0:04:55

0:04:55 > 0:05:01is a two day final. That will make him feel a lot better. Blue is the

0:05:01 > 0:05:08pressure ball, but in it goes! Fairplay to Barry Hawkins. At the

0:05:08 > 0:05:12end of seven days you want a match. That will do nicely, Ronnie

0:05:12 > 0:05:17O'Sullivan behind for the first time.

0:05:17 > 0:05:27Everybody was talking about Ronnie walking away with it and I am so

0:05:27 > 0:05:28

0:05:28 > 0:05:33pleased to see Barry playing so well. I like this... Brilliant

0:05:33 > 0:05:42century break, the first of this year's final. Back-to-back centuries

0:05:42 > 0:05:47for the Rocket! It took 29 minutes for those last three frames. It was

0:05:47 > 0:05:57one of the best sessions I have ever seen. Going into the second session

0:05:57 > 0:05:57

0:05:57 > 0:06:02leading 5-3. If they say it will be over with seconds to spare, I will

0:06:02 > 0:06:07not have any of that. I think Ronnie will take it.

0:06:07 > 0:06:17The scorecard is impressive reading, isn't it? They have got off to an

0:06:17 > 0:06:17

0:06:17 > 0:06:20strongly. I think it is the best session we have seen at the World

0:06:20 > 0:06:30Championship so far, which befits that both players have got to the

0:06:30 > 0:06:37

0:06:37 > 0:06:47table. This is the conversation we had. The table is bad. It is pulling

0:06:47 > 0:06:50

0:06:50 > 0:06:54up. It is coming off the coition. -- the cushion. Ronnie has contacted

0:06:54 > 0:07:01the director. He understands about conditions. What has happened?

0:07:01 > 0:07:04believe the cloth is from a different road. The players got used

0:07:05 > 0:07:09to it so quickly. They have decided not to change it or do anything with

0:07:09 > 0:07:14it and see how it goes. To be honest, the standard was so good,

0:07:14 > 0:07:18how could you say it was a bad table? Most people would not

0:07:18 > 0:07:25realise, when you are a player, you know the difference. We have seen

0:07:25 > 0:07:30that players want faster and faster cloth and it was a shock when it was

0:07:30 > 0:07:35slower. All of a sudden they have a problem to get over. Sometimes under

0:07:35 > 0:07:45pressure it is better to play on its lower cloth because you can hit

0:07:45 > 0:07:52

0:07:52 > 0:08:01firmer. That better to play on a Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen.

0:08:01 > 0:08:06What a scintillating start! Two players at the peak of their powers,

0:08:06 > 0:08:16and the Crucible crowd ready to roar them onto the stage.

0:08:16 > 0:08:22

0:08:22 > 0:08:28Please welcome a player who is revelling in his time in the

0:08:28 > 0:08:32spotlight. Three vital frames this afternoon show he is not overawed by

0:08:32 > 0:08:37this first final. He had never been beyond the second round until this

0:08:37 > 0:08:43year. His win over Mark Selby helped kick-start our brilliant campaign.

0:08:43 > 0:08:53This is the biggest match of his life. Let's raise the roof for Barry

0:08:53 > 0:09:15

0:09:15 > 0:09:20His opponent, an absolute genius with a cue in his hand. He finished

0:09:20 > 0:09:27off this afternoon with two sublime centuries. He is without doubt the

0:09:27 > 0:09:33sport's biggest draw. If he wins this title it will surely rank of

0:09:33 > 0:09:43one -- right as one of snooker's all-time greatest performances. He

0:09:43 > 0:09:57

0:09:57 > 0:10:07is the defending champion, the Fantastic wee section for both men.

0:10:07 > 0:10:07

0:10:07 > 0:10:14Many people felt that this was Ronnie's to lose but it is so far a

0:10:14 > 0:10:24proper contest. The winning target is 18. John Virgo and Dennis Taylor

0:10:54 > 0:11:04gives meeting goals. How the players are supposed to react for the first

0:11:04 > 0:11:34

0:11:34 > 0:11:44few shots - that is what you Hawkins played. He lost the first

0:11:44 > 0:11:46

0:11:46 > 0:11:56two frames but came back with a break of 88, 81, and the pot success

0:11:56 > 0:12:19

0:12:19 > 0:12:29rate was in the 90s for both game just yet. Barry is having a

0:12:29 > 0:12:42

0:12:42 > 0:12:52look at the possibility of a three bit peasy on the safety. -- a little

0:12:52 > 0:13:22

0:13:22 > 0:13:27Just about OK. They can get it into their head about the cloth being a

0:13:27 > 0:13:30little bit slower, but the breaks they made were amazing. It might be

0:13:30 > 0:13:40playing a little bit slower but Ronnie has had back-to-back

0:13:40 > 0:14:19

0:14:19 > 0:14:29centuries, two 70s, 90. The standard what he needed. He needs to get his

0:14:29 > 0:15:13Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

0:15:13 > 0:15:23hand on the table and start potting There is the Hawkins family. They

0:15:23 > 0:15:40

0:15:40 > 0:15:50must be so proud. This is fantastic little bit slower, you have got more

0:15:50 > 0:15:53

0:15:53 > 0:16:03control. Sometimes they can be too quick. I think it is better for the

0:16:03 > 0:16:09

0:16:09 > 0:16:19he would have been able to run through for the black on the

0:16:19 > 0:16:35

0:16:35 > 0:16:45opposite corner, but he has got to looks like this cloth has plenty of

0:16:45 > 0:16:54

0:16:54 > 0:16:57baulk colour. At this level he will be very disappointed with that. It

0:16:57 > 0:17:07was probably caused by the blue not going in the middle of the pocket

0:17:07 > 0:17:07

0:17:07 > 0:17:57Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

0:17:57 > 0:18:02is what creates the backspin. That is what you have got to do. If you

0:18:02 > 0:18:12do not have a good tip on your cue, you could rip the cloth on the

0:18:12 > 0:18:31

0:18:31 > 0:18:41table. You need to be careful when gain the advantage. This might just

0:18:41 > 0:18:41

0:18:41 > 0:20:12Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

0:20:12 > 0:20:22consideration, what a tremendous departments. His break-building and

0:20:22 > 0:20:27

0:20:27 > 0:20:37his safety... This looks like a very good safety to me. That is very

0:20:37 > 0:20:43

0:20:43 > 0:20:53said the first player behind the green would have the tactical

0:20:53 > 0:21:21

0:21:21 > 0:21:31this tactical battle. Every frame is important for Barry. A lot of people

0:21:31 > 0:21:54

0:21:54 > 0:21:58just to the left of the pink is possible to the right corner.

0:21:58 > 0:22:08there is a path round to the black if he takes the pot gone. He did not

0:22:08 > 0:22:38

0:22:38 > 0:22:48thing he had to do was avoid the red on the right-hand side. He will be

0:22:48 > 0:23:04

0:23:04 > 0:23:14very disappointed. OK, go for the little but that will annoy him. That

0:23:14 > 0:23:14

0:23:14 > 0:24:03Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

0:24:03 > 0:24:08especially if Barry can take potting the black because it could

0:24:08 > 0:24:18get tied up. Also, it could tie up a few of the reds. There is not much

0:24:18 > 0:24:57

0:24:57 > 0:25:01option here. He may have to play for better but even if he has got a

0:25:01 > 0:25:08slight angle he might be able to nudge those two reds away from the

0:25:08 > 0:25:18black spot area and stay away from the back. It depends whether he

0:25:18 > 0:25:18

0:25:18 > 0:26:07Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

0:26:07 > 0:26:17wants to risk that. He may not want It has sent them into a worse

0:26:17 > 0:26:18

0:26:18 > 0:26:26position, really. How many times have we seen that in this

0:26:26 > 0:26:36championship? Players sacrificing the pot for position. You have got

0:26:36 > 0:26:53

0:26:53 > 0:26:57to pot the ball. This red is that Ronnie is losing focus. -- a

0:26:57 > 0:27:07couple of signs. We have seen very little of that in this year's World

0:27:07 > 0:27:12

0:27:12 > 0:27:20opening frame of this session than we have seen in some of the whole of

0:27:20 > 0:27:30his sessions. This is a great opportunity for Barry to clinch this

0:27:30 > 0:27:40

0:27:40 > 0:27:50There is a red available into the same pocket as the black and that is

0:27:50 > 0:27:50

0:27:50 > 0:28:38Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

0:28:38 > 0:28:46best possible start for Barry Hawkins. He is just one frame

0:28:46 > 0:28:53behind. It is now 5-4. We have quite a team of pundits.

0:28:53 > 0:29:01Together, 40 world titles. You said yesterday, when asked, what chance

0:29:01 > 0:29:05does Barry Hawkins have? You said, none. What chance does he have now?

0:29:06 > 0:29:11As long as you are playing you have a chance. I was asked before I got a

0:29:11 > 0:29:16result from the Hawkins and Walden match and I did not think he would

0:29:16 > 0:29:21beat Ronnie. I still do not think he will. You have just got to stick at

0:29:21 > 0:29:31it. You never know what might happen. Has it been a surprise, the

0:29:31 > 0:29:52

0:29:52 > 0:30:01quality Barry has been able to It is Barry Hawkins who breaks. Let

0:30:01 > 0:30:11the obligatory three-quarter all red to the corner. Ronnie

0:30:11 > 0:30:22

0:30:22 > 0:30:30O'Sullivan has to avoid a kiss on Everybody was thinking along the

0:30:30 > 0:30:36same lines as Stephen Hendry. But as you can see, Ronnie has missed

0:30:36 > 0:30:46some pots that he did not look like missing. Barry is a different

0:30:46 > 0:30:51

0:30:51 > 0:30:56I think he is really enjoying this final. He looked tense against

0:30:56 > 0:31:04Ricky Walden, who, to be fair, should have put that semi-final to

0:31:04 > 0:31:12bed. But Barry is back and at his best. Stephen makes a very valid

0:31:12 > 0:31:18point. He freely admitted that Barry Hawkins came into the final

0:31:18 > 0:31:27with nothing to lose and is going to enjoy it. That is what he is

0:31:27 > 0:31:37doing. But he knows, as we all do, that one slip and he will be

0:31:37 > 0:31:43

0:31:43 > 0:31:53against an opponent to can take He is playing in the black area,

0:31:53 > 0:32:01

0:32:01 > 0:32:11where players of this quality Skoal He is almost equal with Ronnie,

0:32:11 > 0:32:19

0:32:19 > 0:32:29He has still got the one to the corner. A little more screw on that

0:32:29 > 0:32:43

0:32:43 > 0:32:52would have left in a state red to Foul. Barry Hawkins called it that

0:32:52 > 0:33:02foul just as the referee did. We're very proud that in over game at the

0:33:02 > 0:33:03

0:33:03 > 0:33:11players often call foul. And at heart of appreciation from Ronnie

0:33:11 > 0:33:21O'Sullivan for the spokesman ship. -- habit of appreciation. -- for

0:33:21 > 0:33:54

0:33:55 > 0:34:04That was worth waiting on. A chance He pointed straight away to the

0:34:05 > 0:34:10

0:34:11 > 0:34:20You can see one to the back of the bunch that is available. He will

0:34:21 > 0:34:29

0:34:29 > 0:34:39try to leave an angle. But it looks That is not a favourable kiss.

0:34:39 > 0:34:51

0:34:51 > 0:34:56He could not go into that with too It is not often that Ronnie

0:34:56 > 0:35:06O'Sullivan fails to make most of those opportunities. But no matter

0:35:06 > 0:35:15

0:35:15 > 0:35:25how good you are, when you run into He can take a pot at that and get

0:35:25 > 0:35:28

0:35:28 > 0:35:36He could not risk leaving himself short on that the baulk course. It

0:35:36 > 0:35:46was a difficult shot. -- on the baulk curlers. But this is a

0:35:46 > 0:35:49

0:35:49 > 0:35:57confidence booster for Barry I cannot see the advantage of

0:35:57 > 0:36:03rolling up to their yellow. He has to cover the red on the right hand

0:36:03 > 0:36:13side of the table. Otherwise he will leave as safety shot for

0:36:13 > 0:36:15

0:36:15 > 0:36:24Ronnie. And that is unlucky. You could never have foreseen that! The

0:36:24 > 0:36:34green strikes the black, but lacks the rights of the red. -- the black

0:36:34 > 0:36:43

0:36:43 > 0:36:49He played at that like a trick short. Lots of top spin. But the

0:36:49 > 0:36:59black is difficult. He has taken a look at it. He is not that keen.

0:36:59 > 0:37:05

0:37:05 > 0:37:15But he played that with top spin He is looking at the bank also.

0:37:15 > 0:37:19

0:37:19 > 0:37:26What a shot that would be. -- deep pink. Brilliant! Doesn't that just

0:37:27 > 0:37:31go to show, when people ask us, are the pockets easy? Even the great

0:37:31 > 0:37:36Ronnie O'Sullivan did not want to risk the black. He would rather

0:37:36 > 0:37:45play a very difficult pink, in all honesty. But he will play for the

0:37:45 > 0:37:55black this time. And he will hope to be closer to it. And he does not

0:37:55 > 0:37:56

0:37:56 > 0:38:01have to use power. He can just drop It is OK to play it like that. It

0:38:01 > 0:38:11is when you start forcing them it becomes difficult. A good chance

0:38:11 > 0:38:25

0:38:25 > 0:38:32Still one more red available at the Certainly the top red is available

0:38:32 > 0:38:39in to the left middle. As teapots one, another one will become

0:38:39 > 0:38:45available. -- as he pots. An excellent opportunity. He is so

0:38:45 > 0:38:51good at that shot. Judging how the cue ball will come off the second

0:38:51 > 0:39:01ball. This game has always been about cue ball control and you will

0:39:01 > 0:39:11

0:39:11 > 0:39:21not see a better exponent than He is back in the zone, so to speak.

0:39:21 > 0:39:28

0:39:28 > 0:39:35He has put those misses for only -- firmly. Barry was just guilty of

0:39:35 > 0:39:39trying to over complicate an easy safety shot. It was unlucky for the

0:39:39 > 0:39:49green to strike the black and for the black to strike the red, but

0:39:49 > 0:39:57that can happen. Ought here, he is having to tuck in his waistcoat. --

0:39:57 > 0:40:04awkward. The referee is keeping a close eye. He is concerned he might

0:40:04 > 0:40:14just catch the red. He could always take his waistcoat off if he wanted

0:40:14 > 0:40:15

0:40:15 > 0:40:21to play at. I don't think he is that close, he just feels he is.

0:40:21 > 0:40:31When you get down over a shot like that, the worst thing in the world

0:40:31 > 0:40:43

0:40:43 > 0:40:46This is a good response from Ronnie. And needed. Yes, Barry Hawkins

0:40:46 > 0:40:56posed the question, Ronnie O'Sullivan has come up with the

0:40:56 > 0:41:02

0:41:02 > 0:41:12Not much he can do with this. Just play this safety. Has he doubled

0:41:12 > 0:41:22it? Not quite. But an excellent safety shot. Two snookers needed.

0:41:22 > 0:41:29

0:41:29 > 0:41:39And difficult to get when you are Does this red pass the yellow? It

0:41:39 > 0:41:48

0:41:48 > 0:41:58The red is the fame clincher, no doubt. But Ronnie will be wary. --

0:41:58 > 0:41:58

0:41:58 > 0:42:03frame clincher. He decided to play it safe. He did not miss the pink

0:42:03 > 0:42:13but it is still not easy for Barry, hampered by the black. Otherwise I

0:42:13 > 0:42:29

0:42:29 > 0:42:36Barry Hawkins staying to see if he can get the snooker. Not quite. He

0:42:36 > 0:42:45needs two at the moment. But if he could get a snooker and a free ball,

0:42:45 > 0:42:55that would be all he would need. But the balls are nicely placed for

0:42:55 > 0:42:56

0:42:56 > 0:43:04slickers. Ronnie will be well aware of that. But if you can pot the red

0:43:04 > 0:43:14and the black, then get up in the baulk area, you could play an ace

0:43:14 > 0:43:39

0:43:39 > 0:43:49Snooker in behind the brown. This Good snooker. Lots of people

0:43:49 > 0:43:52

0:43:52 > 0:44:02thought Ronnie O'Sullivan would He has left at. That will be the

0:44:02 > 0:44:03

0:44:03 > 0:44:13end of the frame. Ronnie will just bought this red. Can you believe

0:44:13 > 0:44:15

0:44:15 > 0:44:25that?! When he knows that all he needs is the red! What a careless

0:44:25 > 0:44:28

0:44:28 > 0:44:36mistake. That is a loss of focus from Ronnie. And he is now faced

0:44:36 > 0:44:46with quite a difficult snooker. When you consider how he was

0:44:46 > 0:44:49

0:44:49 > 0:44:59playing it, and could save game, -- a good, safe game. Plenty of room,

0:44:59 > 0:44:59

0:44:59 > 0:45:09and he has gone around the back of the red. Foul. What a turning-point

0:45:09 > 0:45:17

0:45:17 > 0:45:27Could that missed red come back to haunt him? The balls never forget

0:45:27 > 0:45:46

0:45:46 > 0:45:56Barry Hawkins is looking at the scoreboard. 36 behind, 45 remaining.

0:45:56 > 0:46:04

0:46:04 > 0:46:11Even at the blue will only leave him one snooker. He cannot play the

0:46:11 > 0:46:20brown. It has to be the blue. possibly the yellow, where the

0:46:20 > 0:46:30green as, to achieve this there could be hind the pink. -- a

0:46:30 > 0:46:31

0:46:31 > 0:46:41snooker behind. He could have a great chance here. If he can get

0:46:41 > 0:46:50

0:46:50 > 0:47:00the white somewhere to the right, Slightly more difficult now. But he

0:47:00 > 0:47:02

0:47:02 > 0:47:12can still get in behind the pink. He just did not get through it

0:47:12 > 0:47:13

0:47:13 > 0:47:23there. He needed to be further from the cushion. You need to state it a

0:47:23 > 0:47:23

0:47:23 > 0:47:33little crisper. He has left the green on. Where is the cue ball

0:47:33 > 0:47:35

0:47:35 > 0:47:45going? Settle down, John!Even the Ronnie thought it was going to go

0:47:45 > 0:47:55

0:47:55 > 0:48:05That underlines the fact that the frame is now over. Barry Hawkins

0:48:05 > 0:48:18

0:48:18 > 0:48:28Ronnie O'Sullivan is not bothered about the black. Barry Hawkins had

0:48:28 > 0:48:30

0:48:30 > 0:48:38have a chance there but did not take it. Ronnie O'Sullivan ahead.

0:48:38 > 0:48:42There is a lot of jealousy in the studio! Tell me about the pressure

0:48:42 > 0:48:49that Ronnie O'Sullivan is under. People consider him a certainty.

0:48:49 > 0:48:54What kind of weight of expectation does that ring? It can be a

0:48:54 > 0:48:59fantastic weight to try to overcome. Ronnie does not usually succumb to

0:48:59 > 0:49:05that. But you do not know what goes through his mind. Everybody is

0:49:05 > 0:49:12susceptible to that type of thing. I felt it sometimes. It can make

0:49:12 > 0:49:20you quite touchy, short temper. You are magnanimous when it is all over

0:49:20 > 0:49:24if you win, but not a nice feeling. Modesty for bids Steve from saying

0:49:24 > 0:49:34that he would have been asked on favourite for most of the finals he

0:49:34 > 0:49:36

0:49:36 > 0:49:41played in. So he is well qualified to know that. Barry Hawkins missed

0:49:41 > 0:49:47an opportunity to stunt the green in behind the pink and put Ronnie

0:49:47 > 0:49:53and a lot of trouble. Stephen Hendry, favouritism weigh heavily

0:49:53 > 0:50:03upon you? In the final against Nigel Bond I struggled to get my

0:50:03 > 0:50:04

0:50:04 > 0:50:14focus. I managed on the second day. But it is tough. Ronnie O'Sullivan

0:50:14 > 0:50:38

0:50:39 > 0:50:48just making sure that the tip is on That final is a beauty. I thought

0:50:49 > 0:50:51

0:50:51 > 0:50:58he had missed that! How thin? He is smiling away. One of the nicest

0:50:58 > 0:51:02lads you could wish to meet. He is in dreamland, having got through to

0:51:02 > 0:51:09the final. He has a good sense of humour and had a little smile about

0:51:09 > 0:51:19that. To be playing in a world final, the ambition of every

0:51:19 > 0:51:23

0:51:23 > 0:51:28snooker player. Now, where is the cue ball going? That is OK, but is

0:51:29 > 0:51:35there a red available? Will he take the risk? I think he has the angle

0:51:35 > 0:51:40where he is pointing the cue. excellent pot. But you need to be

0:51:40 > 0:51:50careful with these. If you play with any kind of pace, you miss the

0:51:50 > 0:51:58

0:51:58 > 0:52:05That is the problem. Playing with pace into the middle pocket. There

0:52:05 > 0:52:14are two red just above the black available into the left corner. The

0:52:14 > 0:52:19you see him just trying to force the angle. A dangerous thing to do.

0:52:19 > 0:52:29I detect his back aren't just coming out a little bit. You see

0:52:29 > 0:52:34

0:52:34 > 0:52:42that a very real life. -- arm. -- very rarely. Nicely cute. Just look

0:52:42 > 0:52:52at this when he delivers the cue. Yes, drops his elbow. And that was

0:52:52 > 0:53:01

0:53:01 > 0:53:10Barry Hawkins has lost the pink. The highest available spot is for

0:53:10 > 0:53:16the yellow. But needless to say, these opportunities, he will have

0:53:16 > 0:53:25to punish the mistakes of Ronnie. There will not be many. As we give

0:53:25 > 0:53:32you the full view of this wonderful arena. The original promoter, Mike

0:53:32 > 0:53:37Watt, it was his lovely wife, Carol, sadly no longer with us, who came

0:53:37 > 0:53:43here in 1966 to watch a play. She returned and said to him, I have

0:53:43 > 0:53:48just seen the Crucible Theatre, it is made for snooker. And that

0:53:48 > 0:53:57trophy, which you have held, Dennis, the it could not be a better venue

0:53:57 > 0:54:02for it. They originally thought it was not quite tidy enough. They

0:54:02 > 0:54:12managed a little extra to fit in the two tables. And that is what

0:54:12 > 0:54:23

0:54:23 > 0:54:28every snooker player dreams of Nicely played. Not perfect but he

0:54:28 > 0:54:33did not have to do anything with the cue ball. If he had the right

0:54:33 > 0:54:43angle he would have a lot to be on the red just above the black, to

0:54:43 > 0:54:45

0:54:45 > 0:54:51bring the black into play. -- loved. He just about got the angle. Maybe

0:54:51 > 0:54:56he can force it down just above the black. He would have to be so

0:54:56 > 0:55:06precise to play that shot that John said. He would have to get the cue

0:55:06 > 0:55:10

0:55:10 > 0:55:20ball up somewhere near the circle. No, he cannot do it from there. He

0:55:20 > 0:55:34

0:55:34 > 0:55:44Now, the key shot. He must go into that little triangle of reds. He

0:55:44 > 0:55:46

0:55:46 > 0:55:56may use a couple of cushions. Here it comes. It is not bad! He can

0:55:56 > 0:56:03open the bunch with the next shot. He might be able to screw back. But

0:56:03 > 0:56:09can use the bunch and open them up? He can! And he has played that very

0:56:09 > 0:56:19nicely. A little bit unlucky. The four reds are still covering each

0:56:19 > 0:56:36

0:56:36 > 0:56:46He tried to get past the red. But just a safety shot now. He was

0:56:46 > 0:56:51

0:56:51 > 0:57:01unlucky with that slight. The four This was this lack, off two

0:57:01 > 0:57:18

0:57:18 > 0:57:23cushions. -- the spot. The four As he was playing that, I thought,

0:57:24 > 0:57:32I don't like the look of this short. You need to make it so thin to

0:57:33 > 0:57:42avoid the middle pocket. That was a fraction too full. He only just

0:57:43 > 0:57:45

0:57:45 > 0:57:51missed the cluster of reds. The Ronnie O'Sullivan will not have a

0:57:51 > 0:58:01good angle on the black here. He wanted one to go into the little

0:58:01 > 0:58:09

0:58:09 > 0:58:18He is trying to run around off two cushions. That was difficult. Will

0:58:18 > 0:58:28he take on this tricky red, down the cushion? It would be brave.

0:58:28 > 0:58:36

0:58:36 > 0:58:41Immediately he is looking across at A very interesting interview that

0:58:41 > 0:58:45Ronnie gave after his interview -- victory over Judd Trump. He said he

0:58:45 > 0:58:51would try and enjoy the final but there is so much pressure that it

0:58:51 > 0:59:01is hard to do so. Everybody presumes, because he is the odds-on

0:59:01 > 0:59:11

0:59:11 > 0:59:16favourite, that he is no pressure. The one person that can apply

0:59:17 > 0:59:26pressure is Barry Hawkins. And he is doing very well against the

0:59:27 > 0:59:28

0:59:29 > 0:59:38defending champion, he is enjoying He has moved in front of the pot

0:59:39 > 0:59:39

0:59:39 > 0:59:49success rate. Amazingly, the hind in frames. -- behind. There is a

0:59:49 > 0:59:49

0:59:49 > 0:59:59path through a. Long pot success rate, Barry Hawkins Way ahead. This

0:59:59 > 1:00:17

1:00:17 > 1:00:27is difficult to control but he is That seemed to just turn a little

1:00:27 > 1:00:36

1:00:36 > 1:00:45bit. Let's have a look. Just at the end it just nestled onto the green.

1:00:46 > 1:00:55Can he see enough of the blue? I do not think he can. He is snookered

1:00:56 > 1:01:31

1:01:31 > 1:01:39A bit thin on that. He has left a possible pot on to the right corner.

1:01:39 > 1:01:49If Barry could knock this in it could be a brain winner. -- frame

1:01:49 > 1:02:01

1:02:01 > 1:02:07That is a good long pot from Barry. A little closer to the cushion than

1:02:07 > 1:02:17he would have liked. But he does not have much to do with the cue

1:02:17 > 1:02:38

1:02:38 > 1:02:48ball. Perfectly played. A great This black will put him 43 points

1:02:48 > 1:02:58

1:02:58 > 1:03:08in front. Another red and a black He needs one more red. This would

1:03:08 > 1:03:18put him 51 points in front. So he will need one more red. He just has

1:03:18 > 1:03:22

1:03:22 > 1:03:32to get some kind of position on a That is OK. Being left-handed he

1:03:32 > 1:04:06

1:04:06 > 1:04:16It needs to pull up! It is half in Ronnie stays in his seat. Barry

1:04:16 > 1:04:16

1:04:16 > 1:05:08Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

1:05:08 > 1:05:18Hawkins put in a great performance. One of the best seasons of his life.

1:05:18 > 1:05:28He is from Kent and he wants us to be aware of that. This is the last

1:05:28 > 1:05:43

1:05:44 > 1:05:53frame before at the midsession You set your target at three of the

1:05:54 > 1:06:09

1:06:09 > 1:06:14four frames. It would be a mini It Fewcott took frames ahead, you

1:06:14 > 1:06:24used to tell yourself you would get over the winning line. But it is

1:06:24 > 1:06:37

1:06:37 > 1:06:46not that easy. A lot can happen in A good safety. His safety play at

1:06:46 > 1:06:56the start of this match has been a lot better than the semi-final.

1:06:56 > 1:07:01

1:07:01 > 1:07:11Could reply from Ronnie. -- good. Played it well, to avoid the double

1:07:11 > 1:07:34

1:07:34 > 1:07:44Barry just playing plain ball. That last shot from Ronnie, he had to

1:07:44 > 1:08:13

1:08:13 > 1:08:19The flick on the yellow helped. At first glance I cannot see a

1:08:19 > 1:08:29straightforward run back to the baulk line. No way to go down the

1:08:29 > 1:08:29

1:08:29 > 1:08:39left-hand side. He can hit the main bunch of reds. But no path back to

1:08:39 > 1:08:45

1:08:45 > 1:08:55baulk. Look how close he would have to go to the reds. He might have

1:08:55 > 1:08:59

1:08:59 > 1:09:08left a chance here. Ronnie will have a look to see what he would

1:09:08 > 1:09:18leave if he risks this. Half a chance, Ronnie will take it on. Is

1:09:18 > 1:09:31

1:09:31 > 1:09:41it there? It is! It was all down to the good safety. Just misjudged it

1:09:41 > 1:09:47

1:09:47 > 1:09:57a fraction. But fractions can make all the difference. Will be now get

1:09:57 > 1:10:08

1:10:08 > 1:10:18the chance? -- will he. He is reluctant, the cannon could go

1:10:18 > 1:10:33

1:10:33 > 1:10:43wrong. He still plays it and he is perfect. Never misses a chance. And

1:10:43 > 1:10:53that little cannon just put him in the perfect position. I think he is

1:10:53 > 1:10:59

1:10:59 > 1:11:08just OK here. The frames are very important. But at the moment it is

1:11:08 > 1:11:18four reds and this is the fourth black. Nothing would surprise you

1:11:18 > 1:11:38

1:11:38 > 1:11:48Did not finish well, just a slight angle. Had to power it in. It is

1:11:48 > 1:11:54

1:11:54 > 1:12:04not bad. One of those funny angles back into the corner pocket. He is

1:12:04 > 1:12:15

1:12:15 > 1:12:25on the black again! He has done it 11 times, made a maximum break. The

1:12:25 > 1:12:25

1:12:25 > 1:12:35same as Stephen Hendry. He was looking for all blacks, make no

1:12:35 > 1:12:40

1:12:40 > 1:12:50mistake. He should have taken more time on that. He was after the

1:12:50 > 1:12:54

1:12:54 > 1:13:04maximum. They always say first of all try to secured the brain. --

1:13:04 > 1:13:30

1:13:30 > 1:13:40Ronnie did not need anything plain Left nothing, that was the main

1:13:40 > 1:13:43

1:13:43 > 1:13:53objective. Just while Barry is doing this, a big thank you to

1:13:53 > 1:14:03

1:14:03 > 1:14:12Sheila. She sends us scones every year. How was your half dozen?!

1:14:12 > 1:14:22They vanished very quickly! I was looking at Willie Thorne at one

1:14:22 > 1:15:01

1:15:01 > 1:15:11The red is a bit of insurance or The three reds behind the black

1:15:11 > 1:15:15

1:15:15 > 1:15:23could be brought into a play with a safety shot. The kiss on the blue

1:15:23 > 1:15:33has left him on the green. And possibly the pink. It went in off

1:15:33 > 1:15:36

1:15:36 > 1:15:46the other red. Was that good fortune? Deciding to play this

1:15:46 > 1:15:48

1:15:48 > 1:15:58left-handed. No problem with that one. That is inch perfect. Already

1:15:58 > 1:15:59

1:15:59 > 1:16:06with a 55 point lead. Surely end of frame. To control that with his

1:16:07 > 1:16:16left hand, it is so difficult to do. I could not pull that off. Not in a

1:16:17 > 1:16:17

1:16:17 > 1:16:22month of Sundays. When he first came on the scene, I remember him

1:16:22 > 1:16:28playing a Canadian and played a couple of shots left-handed. The

1:16:28 > 1:16:38Canadian took it as an insult. But defeat is in your armoury to do

1:16:38 > 1:16:56

1:16:56 > 1:17:06Not inch perfect on this pink. Just looking for one more red after the

1:17:06 > 1:17:12

1:17:12 > 1:17:22pink. All the reds are difficult. This to go 70 ahead. With just 67

1:17:22 > 1:17:25

1:17:25 > 1:17:35remaining. Surprising. It certainly was surprising. The black is in a

1:17:35 > 1:17:39

1:17:39 > 1:17:49more awkward position. That does not help Barry Hawkins. Just

1:17:49 > 1:18:03

1:18:03 > 1:18:13It had to be about contact. He does not want to open up the rents. --

1:18:13 > 1:18:20

1:18:20 > 1:18:30reds. He will not open them up at that pace! That ran as straight as

1:18:30 > 1:18:33

1:18:33 > 1:18:43a die. Ronnie certainly trusted the table there. And it did not let him

1:18:43 > 1:18:53

1:18:53 > 1:19:02down. That is on, he can get through to it. This for the frame.

1:19:02 > 1:19:10That was at careless safety shot from Barry Hawkins. He is going to

1:19:10 > 1:19:20go to the midsession interval as he started this evening. Two frames

1:19:20 > 1:19:24

1:19:24 > 1:19:29behind. 67 remaining. And that is enough. Barry Hawkins concedes.

1:19:30 > 1:19:38Maybe he should not have conceded but it is too late now. Ronnie

1:19:38 > 1:19:48O'Sullivan accepts it gratefully. And back they go to their dressing

1:19:48 > 1:19:50

1:19:50 > 1:19:57rooms. They are very focused. They go back for a chat with their

1:19:57 > 1:20:06respective colleagues. This has been a fascinating second session.

1:20:06 > 1:20:11Every one of the first eight frames had at least 150 plus rate. Some

1:20:11 > 1:20:16more errors creeping in. Fascinating none the less. Despite

1:20:16 > 1:20:21the fact that he has a two-frame advantage, you detect that it is

1:20:21 > 1:20:31perhaps a bit more of a struggle for non-league this evening.

1:20:31 > 1:20:33

1:20:33 > 1:20:40does not look 100% focused. -- for Ronnie. He does not look completely

1:20:40 > 1:20:47on it for me. And a couple of loose shots from Barry Hawkins gifted a

1:20:47 > 1:20:56some opportunities. The length of the matches, you are going to make

1:20:56 > 1:21:02mistakes sooner or later. The match with Judd Trump was emotional for

1:21:02 > 1:21:10him. The young upstart. Sometimes you cannot be firing on all

1:21:10 > 1:21:16cylinders. The marathon of the mind really starts to kick in. Do you

1:21:16 > 1:21:20begin to feel jaded by this stage and how do you get over it?

1:21:20 > 1:21:25really need to recharge your batteries overnight and hopefully

1:21:25 > 1:21:30come out guns blazing. I played Jimmy White in the world

1:21:30 > 1:21:36championship. He came out a different player the second day and

1:21:36 > 1:21:42that does happen often. Even the interval can't change things. But

1:21:42 > 1:21:48overnight is a different prospect. It is remarkable that Barry Hawkins

1:21:48 > 1:21:53had that emotional finish last night against Ricky Walden. He

1:21:53 > 1:22:01hauled himself back into the match. They do not seem to be any ill-

1:22:01 > 1:22:06effects from that. I think the ill- effects were the first two sessions.

1:22:06 > 1:22:13He had his dip in the first two frames against Ricky Walden. I

1:22:13 > 1:22:18think he has played well. How is it as a contest overall? I think Barry

1:22:18 > 1:22:23came in with nothing to lose. And when he got the frames on the board,

1:22:23 > 1:22:30now he is just enjoying being in the final. And if Ronnie keeps on

1:22:30 > 1:22:35giving him chances he will get confidence from that. Well Barry

1:22:35 > 1:22:41Hawkins won the very first event of this snooker season in July, the

1:22:41 > 1:22:46Australian Open. His first ever title. Here he is in the last final

1:22:46 > 1:22:52in the last event here at the World Championships. A testament to his

1:22:52 > 1:23:02stamina. His 101st match of the season. And it really is a

1:23:02 > 1:23:10

1:23:10 > 1:23:17Great sportsmanship. Look at the delight on Barry Hawkins. A great

1:23:17 > 1:23:26competitor and has proved it in this match. Now he is in the final.

1:23:26 > 1:23:32World Snooker finalist. How does it feel? I cannot believe it. I feel

1:23:32 > 1:23:41surprisingly calm. It is weird. When I go back to the hotel is when

1:23:41 > 1:23:49it will sink in. It is a bit strange. It is unbelievable. I am

1:23:49 > 1:23:55in shock, honestly. It does not feel real. The thing that impresses

1:23:55 > 1:24:05me is your persistence. I think that is the big difference. I just

1:24:05 > 1:24:12keep trying, giving 100%. It has paid off. How much of the help has

1:24:12 > 1:24:16Terry been? I think he has been the answer I have been looking for. I

1:24:16 > 1:24:24had a few bad results. And I thought it is time to go and see

1:24:24 > 1:24:31somebody. I went to see Terry and sat down with him. We just spoke

1:24:32 > 1:24:36about things. Then he tweaked a couple of technical things. He has

1:24:36 > 1:24:46been a massive help to me and it has paid off. Do you think it was a

1:24:46 > 1:24:49

1:24:49 > 1:24:53lack of self-belief? 100%. I could play well in practice. But it is a

1:24:53 > 1:25:01matter of doing it out there, that is the hard bit. Terry has helped

1:25:01 > 1:25:05me so much. To win in Asda and it is the big thing. Nothing like

1:25:05 > 1:25:12holding the trophy for Europe conference. It is unbelievable. It

1:25:12 > 1:25:18did not even feel real. To come through and be the last one

1:25:18 > 1:25:26standing, I was chuffed to bits. And the way I played, it was really

1:25:26 > 1:25:32pleasing. That was the confidence I needed. You also have family

1:25:32 > 1:25:36support bridges important. Absolutely. My wife is unbelievable.

1:25:36 > 1:25:44We have been married for just over a year. All the travelling and

1:25:44 > 1:25:50things, she just gets on with it. My mum and dad had support meet all

1:25:50 > 1:25:59through the years. They let me do what I wanted to do. And everyone

1:25:59 > 1:26:06at the snooker club. Everyone is so nice up there. So many people to

1:26:06 > 1:26:16thank. Your wife will be looking for a new kitchen after this!

1:26:16 > 1:26:16

1:26:16 > 1:26:23know! A lot of people are going to think you are starting as the

1:26:23 > 1:26:30underdog. Can you win it? Of course I can. It is only me and him left

1:26:30 > 1:26:36now. I need to play at the top of my game but I am still in it.

1:26:36 > 1:26:42will you approach the? No different. Just concentrate on my own game. I

1:26:42 > 1:26:47know it is easier said than done. In my eyes, he is unbelievable. But

1:26:47 > 1:26:52I just have to concentrate on what I'm doing. What would it mean for

1:26:52 > 1:26:57Barry Hawkins to win the World Championship? It is what every

1:26:57 > 1:27:01player dreams of. What I have been dreaming of since I was a young boy.

1:27:01 > 1:27:07Just to make it to the final is unbelievable. But to live the

1:27:08 > 1:27:15trophy, just unbelievable. You have played great so far.

1:27:15 > 1:27:19Barry was born in 1979 in April, the date that his coach Terry

1:27:19 > 1:27:26Griffiths played Eddie Charlton in the semi-final here at the Crucible.

1:27:26 > 1:27:32The Welshman went on to win the title that year. 34 years later

1:27:32 > 1:27:36Terry is the man Lucan speak from the heart.

1:27:36 > 1:27:42Dad - who can. People ask what it is like being a professional player

1:27:42 > 1:27:48and how did I handle the pressure. I have tried to describe that but

1:27:48 > 1:27:52the words come up short. I turned professional in 1978. I just wanted

1:27:52 > 1:27:56to find out if I could compete against the best in the world. I

1:27:56 > 1:28:02set myself a target of three years and it five failed I would go back

1:28:03 > 1:28:12to work. Little did I know that I was going to experience in my first

1:28:13 > 1:28:14

1:28:14 > 1:28:22season, I got there first of nine in the qualifying round of the UK

1:28:22 > 1:28:27Championships. I somehow managed to lose 9 - 8. When I shook his hand I

1:28:27 > 1:28:33could not feel anything. I wanted to say well done but nothing came

1:28:33 > 1:28:40out. There was an emptiness inside me. It was a horrible defeat,

1:28:40 > 1:28:48overwhelming for me because of its potential. The career I had looked

1:28:48 > 1:28:53forward to it was in jeopardy. And also the way in which I lost.

1:28:53 > 1:29:03Professional snooker I believe is the modern equivalent of a war. The

1:29:03 > 1:29:07stress, beware and tear. -- the wear and tear. It takes an

1:29:07 > 1:29:13individual to the outer limits of their capabilities and may provide

1:29:13 > 1:29:17one of the ultimate studies of people. Because it is such a cruel,

1:29:17 > 1:29:23volatile and emotionally draining experience. Unless you have

1:29:23 > 1:29:30experienced this kind of emotional shock, it is hard to comprehend the

1:29:30 > 1:29:36impact. The memory never leaves you. That is both as a positive and and

1:29:36 > 1:29:46negative force. Sparing you to work harder and also creating a fear

1:29:46 > 1:29:52

1:29:52 > 1:29:58inside that it might happen again. I was crowned the champion of the

1:29:58 > 1:30:02world. It happened only because at the moment of deepest despair, I had

1:30:02 > 1:30:12the strength to stand and confront the future instead of wallowing in

1:30:12 > 1:30:26

1:30:26 > 1:30:30the past. Victory goes to another, a stronger competitor. Achieving those

1:30:30 > 1:30:36goals is a slice most gratifying experiences. The ability to survive

1:30:36 > 1:30:46and overcome is a fundamental difference between winners and

1:30:46 > 1:30:47

1:30:47 > 1:30:50losers. Fascinating insight. Barry is

1:30:50 > 1:30:50playing Ronnie as Sullivan who is playing Ronnie as Sullivan who is

1:30:50 > 1:30:56trying to become the third man to trying to become the third man

1:30:56 > 1:31:00defend his title in the Crucible. The others, Mr Hendry and Mr Davis

1:31:00 > 1:31:07sitting with me this evening. It has been a very torturous procedure for

1:31:07 > 1:31:11Ronnie. Where he to achieve this, it would be truly staggering. He is a

1:31:11 > 1:31:15volatile character, as you know. He says that he has been close to

1:31:15 > 1:31:20cracking point a couple of times over the last two weeks. He

1:31:20 > 1:31:25announced his retirement once again and he had not even finish this

1:31:25 > 1:31:35comeback. Whatever he says and does, as Sullivan is box office gold.

1:31:35 > 1:31:43

1:31:43 > 1:31:49superb! Key is in the final to defend his title.

1:31:49 > 1:31:54It must be exciting to be back in the final? Yeah, obviously it is the

1:31:54 > 1:32:00biggest tournament we play in along with that comes the pressure to do

1:32:00 > 1:32:03well. Sometimes you try to over try and sometimes enjoying the moment is

1:32:03 > 1:32:07difficult. It is such a long tournament it is difficult to be on

1:32:07 > 1:32:14for all the time. Have to go through a lot of emotions wondering whether

1:32:14 > 1:32:18you played well or not. It is like an enjoyment event.

1:32:18 > 1:32:26At the start, you said you did not expect much of yourself, but you

1:32:26 > 1:32:33must have fancied you had a chance. No, I didn't. Not playing any

1:32:33 > 1:32:37matches, sometimes until you get in a few tough battles, I didn't feel I

1:32:37 > 1:32:43was battling hard enough and I thought that would let me down.

1:32:43 > 1:32:49Obviously I managed to play my way through. It did not look like you

1:32:49 > 1:32:53were worried. You handled yourself so well. It is an act. Sometimes you

1:32:53 > 1:32:58have to do that even when you are not feeling good. Sometimes you have

1:32:58 > 1:33:05to pull yourself together and force yourself into holding your own. Then

1:33:05 > 1:33:12you can relax a bit more. You learn, in an environment like this,

1:33:12 > 1:33:17you cannot show your opponent any weaknesses. It is similar to poker.

1:33:17 > 1:33:20Was your preparation any different coming into this event?

1:33:20 > 1:33:27I probably practice more than usual because tournaments are usually the

1:33:27 > 1:33:30best form of practice. I had to maybe make up a bit more on the

1:33:30 > 1:33:36practice table to balance the books a bit more. Instead of doing an hour

1:33:36 > 1:33:38and a half a day, I did four. That was tiring because trying to hold

1:33:38 > 1:33:47your concentration to two hours in the beginning, I was getting

1:33:47 > 1:33:54knackered. In a way I had to do some of that just for practice. Barry

1:33:54 > 1:34:00Hawkins is an unknown quantity at this level. In many ways, but on the

1:34:00 > 1:34:07circuit everybody knows how good Barry is. I remember playing him

1:34:07 > 1:34:13before and I know how good a player he is. I remember coming away

1:34:13 > 1:34:19thinking I played well so you up your respect for an opponent when

1:34:19 > 1:34:24you feel that you have played your best. He is a very efficient player.

1:34:24 > 1:34:29Should you win the final, five world championship victories. I know

1:34:29 > 1:34:35records don't mean anything, but it is getting to the stage where you

1:34:35 > 1:34:40are knocking on doors, would you consider seven or eight? Know. I was

1:34:40 > 1:34:48happy with four. I thought that was my lot, but here I am in the

1:34:48 > 1:34:54finals. To start looking at six, seven, eight and I am 37 now, I am

1:34:54 > 1:35:03not getting any younger. A fixed 37, but in snooker terms I am an old

1:35:03 > 1:35:12man. So, in that way, the clock is against me. But you can never say

1:35:12 > 1:35:16never. From your perspective, how are you viewing the future?

1:35:16 > 1:35:21Sometimes in big tournaments I find coping with the pressure of bit too

1:35:21 > 1:35:25much. My favourite tournaments are the PTC tournaments. You go for

1:35:25 > 1:35:31three days and play three matches a day, that is really fun. I remember

1:35:31 > 1:35:39watching a documentary on it saying what's your favourite race was and

1:35:39 > 1:35:43it was go-karting. For me, that is the PTC, pure snooker. Here you have

1:35:43 > 1:35:49a lot of waiting in between and it is anticipation and build-up. Times

1:35:50 > 1:35:57I don't like that or don't manage it too well. The build-up kind of makes

1:35:57 > 1:36:00me feel not my best sometimes. Sometimes I want and away from that.

1:36:00 > 1:36:04Motivation is tough as you get older, but would you like to turn

1:36:04 > 1:36:09the clocks back to when you were more motivated?

1:36:09 > 1:36:13I think I am as motivated now as I ever have been. I have always been

1:36:13 > 1:36:23competitive with whatever I do, whether it is running, cooking, I

1:36:23 > 1:36:24

1:36:24 > 1:36:30want to be the best I can be. I am a few terms behind on school fees and

1:36:30 > 1:36:38it has come in handy, the many. It was one of the motivating factors,

1:36:38 > 1:36:42it is sad to say that, but it is the reality of life. After a year out,

1:36:42 > 1:36:52kind of having, a long story, but the book coming out in October will

1:36:52 > 1:36:55

1:36:55 > 1:37:01explain it better. Good luck in the interview about true confidence

1:37:01 > 1:37:06levels. What did you glean about Ronnie? We are all in a similar

1:37:06 > 1:37:10boat. You don't like the waiting. It is like the dentist waiting room and

1:37:10 > 1:37:16when you get out there, it is like a release. It was nice to hear Ronnie

1:37:16 > 1:37:20saying that. Perhaps Ronnie does not deal with it as well as we think he

1:37:20 > 1:37:26does. The best person I have sinned deal with it is Stephen.

1:37:26 > 1:37:29We saw Ronnie walk out in the quarter-final in York. We are less

1:37:29 > 1:37:35prone to see those sorts of implosions from him. He seems much

1:37:35 > 1:37:39more focused at the table, that has been a real difference. Yeah, he

1:37:39 > 1:37:46looks at peace at the table. Any outside problems he has cannot get

1:37:46 > 1:37:51to him there so he can focus. Indeed. You were with Barry, what

1:37:51 > 1:37:59did you detect about his level of surprise? Absolutely delighted to be

1:37:59 > 1:38:03there. He can go there in some respects with nothing to lose, I

1:38:03 > 1:38:08don't like that statement because it is a massive prize at the end, but

1:38:08 > 1:38:12he can relax because he is not favourite. We heard from Terry

1:38:12 > 1:38:15Griffiths as well as we push through here from the Winter Gardens and

1:38:15 > 1:38:19across to the square and into the Crucible where there is Ronnie

1:38:19 > 1:38:24getting ready for another five frames this evening to play against

1:38:24 > 1:38:28Barry Hawkins. It is the best of 35 frames and there is a change of

1:38:28 > 1:38:38shift in the commentary box. Enjoy the wit and wisdom of Ken Dougherty

1:38:38 > 1:38:39

1:38:39 > 1:38:44everybody sitting at home will be looking forward to the next five

1:38:44 > 1:38:54frames. There will be nine -- there have been nine frames played so far

1:38:54 > 1:38:57

1:38:57 > 1:39:02played great today. He has dug in deep. He needs to win at least two

1:39:03 > 1:39:12of them to keep himself in the match. The pleasure of being with

1:39:12 > 1:39:16the darling of Dublin tonight, Ken Dougherty. -- Ken Doherty. I have

1:39:16 > 1:39:26really enjoyed the frame so far. It is imperative for Barry to keep with

1:39:26 > 1:39:27

1:39:27 > 1:39:33O'Sullivan. Just keep up his confidence and keep letting Ronnie

1:39:33 > 1:39:43know that he is still around. That was a great opening red to the

1:39:43 > 1:40:02

1:40:02 > 1:40:06black. He still has the red above the black, but he still has a red in

1:40:06 > 1:40:13the green pocket if he wishes. The problem with the red above the

1:40:13 > 1:40:23black, it is running away down the table and could get out of position.

1:40:23 > 1:40:33

1:40:33 > 1:40:39not going to be leaving too much and that may have taken the focus of the

1:40:39 > 1:40:43pot a little bit more. Close enough. He left a choice of reds for Ronnie

1:40:43 > 1:40:53if he wants to take the pot on. Either the two reds to the right of

1:40:53 > 1:41:06

1:41:07 > 1:41:10He has been putting a lot of long balls, but missed a few today.

1:41:10 > 1:41:14Yeah, he looks a little bit perturbed, there is no doubt about

1:41:14 > 1:41:24it. I think it stems from the table and the cloth. He is not overly

1:41:24 > 1:41:32

1:41:32 > 1:41:35happy. Even though he has scored see if he can grip the cloth fair.

1:41:35 > 1:41:45Maybe thinking it is a bit loose. That was a nice shots from Barry

1:41:45 > 1:41:57

1:41:58 > 1:42:02Griffith. How he got Barry to be motivated in the semi-final when the

1:42:02 > 1:42:07school was 9-7 and Barry could not put a ball, Terry must have done a

1:42:07 > 1:42:16wonderful job to get him motivated to win and get in the right frame of

1:42:16 > 1:42:24mind to play in this one. Absolutely. 12-8 down. He has great

1:42:24 > 1:42:28fighting qualities, no doubt about A nice little cannon and the red to

1:42:28 > 1:42:38lead into the corner pocket. A little bit closer with the cue ball

1:42:38 > 1:42:48

1:42:48 > 1:42:54than he would have liked, but still messages before this final, you see

1:42:54 > 1:42:58the overhead camera of the Crucible, a lot of people have given Barry

1:42:58 > 1:43:08Hawkins much hope in this final, but he certainly answered their

1:43:08 > 1:43:10

1:43:10 > 1:43:20questions and doubts by the way he has played. Remarkable. To him. --

1:43:20 > 1:43:28

1:43:29 > 1:43:34red to get nicely on any colour. Looking at the pink all the red

1:43:35 > 1:43:44below the pink, whether he can get onto that. A little angle, but it

1:43:45 > 1:43:52

1:43:52 > 1:44:02will not make much difference unless he has decided to play for

1:44:02 > 1:44:22

1:44:22 > 1:44:26on the black. It is good to go into the bunch, particularly when you

1:44:26 > 1:44:34have a couple of loose ones because you have more of a chance to be on

1:44:34 > 1:44:44those. That was a wonderfully played shot. Certainly opens up the frame.

1:44:44 > 1:45:08

1:45:08 > 1:45:18The beauty of that shot. He could pot this thread, that will certainly

1:45:18 > 1:45:20

1:45:20 > 1:45:24release one of those two reds that are close together. 57 point lead so

1:45:24 > 1:45:34just a black, another couple of reds and colours will close the gap once

1:45:34 > 1:45:49

1:45:49 > 1:45:59This is a chance for him to win three of the five frames played so

1:45:59 > 1:46:15

1:46:15 > 1:46:20century in this final so far, but this is a dream chance, really. The

1:46:20 > 1:46:25fact he is left-handed, the only difficult red is down on the baulk

1:46:25 > 1:46:29line. That is not difficult for a left-hander. As long as he gets past

1:46:29 > 1:46:39the amount of points he needs to win the frame, I fancy him getting a

1:46:39 > 1:46:39

1:46:39 > 1:47:41Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

1:47:41 > 1:47:46position in the last couple of shots, but he has regained that now.

1:47:46 > 1:47:49He made 33 centuries this season, Barry Hawkins. Seeing him play in

1:47:50 > 1:47:56the semi-final, people were saying he is not a good player, but that

1:47:56 > 1:48:06shows you exactly how good he is. He made for centuries himself in

1:48:06 > 1:48:16this tournament. What a shame. What a great break of 83 though. He is

1:48:16 > 1:48:21

1:48:21 > 1:48:25back within one frame now, but Phil thought this morning. The man in

1:48:25 > 1:48:29Barry Hawkins Corner is this man, Terry Griffiths. Let me ask you

1:48:29 > 1:48:33this, what did you say to Barry yesterday when he was down? He

1:48:33 > 1:48:39looked out against Ricky Walden and you were described as the miracle

1:48:39 > 1:48:44man. I think Barry Hawkins is the miracle man. He earned the right to

1:48:44 > 1:48:48win the match by holding on in the first two sessions when his game

1:48:48 > 1:48:52wasn't there. The strength of his mind carried him through those

1:48:52 > 1:48:56sessions and he earns the right to win the match. There was not much I

1:48:56 > 1:49:02could tell him afterwards because he wasn't with us. He was like in

1:49:02 > 1:49:07another planet when he came off. Such a wonderful occasion.

1:49:07 > 1:49:11Was there something specifically wrong with his game early on?

1:49:11 > 1:49:16Yes, he just wasn't comfortable with the way he was playing. We looked at

1:49:16 > 1:49:20them and put them right and he was a bit more comfortable. It is always

1:49:20 > 1:49:24about getting comfortable. Sometimes it is just the shots you are left.

1:49:24 > 1:49:31Sometimes you have easy ones, sometimes difficult. It just turned

1:49:31 > 1:49:36round a bit, you know. What did you say at the midsession interval?

1:49:36 > 1:49:40Not a lot. He feels very comfortable out there playing. He is not too

1:49:40 > 1:49:45calm and not too excited. He's a good place there is not too much say

1:49:45 > 1:49:51apart from carry on and do the same things all the time. At the moment,

1:49:51 > 1:49:56when he was out there who seems to me that when it gets a chance he

1:49:56 > 1:50:03will make breaks. What do you say to people who say

1:50:03 > 1:50:07this is all about Ronnie O'Sullivan? It is his final, but it is also

1:50:07 > 1:50:13Barry Hawkins final. I'm sure Ronnie doesn't think that and has respect

1:50:14 > 1:50:17for Barry. Barry has not started well, but stay in the long grass and

1:50:17 > 1:50:23pounce on him at the end. That is what he did against Selby and Ricky

1:50:23 > 1:50:26Walden. He is holding on. Ronnie is playing very well, but there are two

1:50:26 > 1:50:36players out there. If Ronnie doesn't underestimate him, he made paid for

1:50:36 > 1:50:47

1:50:47 > 1:50:57that. The miracle man. Thank you new played many times, Willy. Now

1:50:57 > 1:51:20

1:51:20 > 1:51:24this man in his game over the last red. No real danger, of course. He

1:51:24 > 1:51:34will just come around to have a look to see if there is a possible shot

1:51:34 > 1:51:40

1:51:40 > 1:51:48or nothing on. No, nothing on so almost take the paint off this red

1:51:48 > 1:51:53here. Yes, he will risk it once more. He will risk the thing that

1:51:53 > 1:51:57and then be warned not to hit it. He will have one more try and then play

1:51:57 > 1:52:07an alternative. That is where it was, that is where it is now. Pretty

1:52:07 > 1:52:28

1:52:28 > 1:52:38There are couple of reds that could go close to the pocket so that is

1:52:38 > 1:52:43

1:52:43 > 1:52:48why he is taking an alternative one of the great things about Ronnie

1:52:48 > 1:52:51O'Sullivan safety game. Keeping the cue ball down behind the green on

1:52:51 > 1:52:57the right-hand side because of the red close to the right-hand crusher,

1:52:57 > 1:53:00it is a bit more difficult to get back to safety. If you leave the cue

1:53:00 > 1:53:10ball down the left-hand side of the table there is a straight path back,

1:53:10 > 1:53:28

1:53:28 > 1:53:34the way to played a thin cut into the corner. He was only playing a

1:53:34 > 1:53:38safety shot here. It is a perfect angle is that red wasn't there to

1:53:38 > 1:53:45pot it and go around the back of the black, but he can't may have to play

1:53:46 > 1:53:50a thin one is Barry did on his previous shot. Bringing the black

1:53:50 > 1:54:00interplay so whoever pot the next red will get a sizeable lead in this

1:54:00 > 1:54:00

1:54:00 > 1:54:48Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

1:54:48 > 1:54:51battle and won it well because he put Ronnie in trouble on three

1:54:51 > 1:54:56occasions. On the third occasion he played a poor safety and now the

1:54:57 > 1:55:01pink and black or in lay. Barry will be disappointed if he doesn't get at

1:55:01 > 1:55:11least 40. Whether he goes on to get a frame winning break, we will know

1:55:11 > 1:55:18

1:55:19 > 1:55:24could they? Yes, nicely placed. Does not have to worry about going into

1:55:24 > 1:55:34any reds for the foreseeable future. Wants to get this black open into

1:55:34 > 1:55:51

1:55:51 > 1:55:55both corner pockets. Yachting this disturb the red. If you note into

1:55:55 > 1:56:00that, he has the red just to the left of that there an opening back

1:56:00 > 1:56:10in corner pocket. Just play a little stunned shot into that red if he

1:56:10 > 1:56:16

1:56:16 > 1:56:26occasion. That may tell as the red is a little awkward. This one and

1:56:26 > 1:56:32

1:56:32 > 1:56:38same player in the first two sessions of the semi-final. He

1:56:38 > 1:56:46looked almost frightened to play. He looked anxious when he got in the

1:56:46 > 1:56:49balls. There were probably 30 or 40 balls that all of the snooker

1:56:49 > 1:56:59players in the audience would have thought they could have potted, but

1:56:59 > 1:57:02

1:57:02 > 1:57:06certainly a different player now. He played he knows he will have it all

1:57:06 > 1:57:13to do. Let's not forget, Ronnie was a player -- pro player two years

1:57:13 > 1:57:23ago. Like every player he is fundable, he is beatable. --

1:57:23 > 1:57:28

1:57:28 > 1:57:34himself and his own game, not worry about losing the other chair. Once

1:57:34 > 1:57:44you are sitting in that chair, there is nothing you can do. When you are

1:57:44 > 1:58:00

1:58:00 > 1:58:10at the table that is the most takes what is on, always looking and

1:58:10 > 1:58:16

1:58:16 > 1:58:21racks of the easy ones. Gathers up a though. If he had played the stern

1:58:21 > 1:58:25early, he would not be drifting around the blue spot. You can get

1:58:25 > 1:58:29into the loose red and place of the gap in between the cluster of three

1:58:29 > 1:58:39cluster of four. Getting rid of this one opens another red into the

1:58:39 > 1:58:55

1:58:55 > 1:59:05the black in the little pyramid goes into the bottom left-hand corner

1:59:05 > 1:59:19

1:59:19 > 1:59:25pocket. There is a nice cannon on this in he can miss a kiss on the

1:59:25 > 1:59:28red that is on the cushion. He may screw it in and go across the face

1:59:28 > 1:59:38of the black which could put the cue ball near the pink and make things

1:59:38 > 1:59:46

1:59:46 > 1:59:56ball enough to slide it past the pink. There is now an excellent

1:59:56 > 2:00:15

2:00:15 > 2:00:25chance to level the match for the He will still need a few more reds

2:00:25 > 2:00:32

2:00:32 > 2:00:42and colours. This is impressive stuff from Barry Hawkins.

2:00:42 > 2:00:52

2:00:52 > 2:00:58Controlling the cue ball very well. I think he is playing better now

2:00:58 > 2:01:07than when he was being Ding and Mark Selby. There was a lot of

2:01:07 > 2:01:12pressure on both players. And it did get to them. But once he'd

2:01:13 > 2:01:22settle down he was playing his best snooker. And he is continuing with

2:01:23 > 2:01:27

2:01:27 > 2:01:37that now. He has got an angle on the black to get on to the Red just

2:01:37 > 2:02:09

2:02:10 > 2:02:16People were talking about the fact that Ronnie O'Sullivan can outscore

2:02:16 > 2:02:23Barry. But this next caption we will show you shows how he is

2:02:23 > 2:02:33competing with Ronnie O'Sullivan. Just one point behind. Scoring at

2:02:33 > 2:02:40

2:02:40 > 2:02:46The points are identical but Barry Hawkins is levelling the match.

2:02:46 > 2:02:53They have got it exactly the same amount of balls. What a fantastic

2:02:53 > 2:03:03break. It is mainly a milestone. The 50th century of the tournament

2:03:03 > 2:03:03

2:03:03 > 2:04:16Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

2:04:16 > 2:04:26Wait for it and always when his black goes in there. He levels the

2:04:26 > 2:04:30

2:04:30 > 2:04:35match. Now seven frames each. The 50th century of the

2:04:35 > 2:04:39championship this year and Barry's highest break ever at the Crucible.

2:04:39 > 2:04:48What do you detect about his ability to sense a little bit of

2:04:48 > 2:04:54weakness perhaps? He looks to be the fresher of them. He looks as if

2:04:54 > 2:04:59he is enjoying himself. He has got freedom in his cue action. If there

2:04:59 > 2:05:05was tightness in the round before it certainly has been sorted out by

2:05:05 > 2:05:10Terry Griffiths. He looks as if he is having the time of his life.

2:05:10 > 2:05:15is amazing. When you think about the transformation from yesterday

2:05:15 > 2:05:24morning. But he must seize these opportunities. That is very

2:05:24 > 2:05:30important. Because he is definitely on top. Barry Hawkins, his game is

2:05:30 > 2:05:34definitely in a better state at the moment. In commentary the other day

2:05:34 > 2:05:41you'd said you have to focus on your own game but you also have to

2:05:41 > 2:05:45keep the lights on the other fellow. Is that hard to do when you're out

2:05:45 > 2:05:54there or it can you put the squeeze on someone when you sense they are

2:05:54 > 2:06:00weakening. You can sense in some them's body language. Ronnie is

2:06:00 > 2:06:06fiddling around with his watch. He does not look focused in the chair,

2:06:06 > 2:06:12but he never does. So it is hard to judge. And that is difficult for

2:06:12 > 2:06:17Barry. There will be one session in this final when Ronnie O'Sullivan

2:06:17 > 2:06:24is absolutely going to fizz. So when he is not, make hay when the

2:06:24 > 2:06:28sun shines. The first day is a funny day. It can be because there

2:06:28 > 2:06:37is no end result. It just looks as if you're waiting through the

2:06:37 > 2:06:42frames. What we have not seen it is a big counter attack in affray and.

2:06:42 > 2:06:47It has just been break after a break. Somewhere down the line

2:06:47 > 2:06:56there will be a critical point in this match. We have got three more

2:06:56 > 2:07:01to play this evening. It does hurt you when you're 16 in

2:07:01 > 2:07:06front and all of a sudden you miss a ball and your opponent clears up.

2:07:06 > 2:07:16It will be interesting to see if that happens during the match. How

2:07:16 > 2:07:27

2:07:28 > 2:07:37During a lot better. I think he has left our red on this time. --

2:07:38 > 2:08:00

2:08:00 > 2:08:10cueing a lot better. Wonderful shot from Ronnie O'Sullivan. The perfect

2:08:10 > 2:08:43

2:08:43 > 2:08:53Stephen Hendry just mentioned that sitting in the chair, Ronnie always

2:08:53 > 2:08:57

2:08:57 > 2:09:07looks a bit out of sorts. These balls are perfect. And it is a very

2:09:07 > 2:09:18

2:09:18 > 2:09:28important time in the match. He Getting the awkward red out

2:09:28 > 2:09:51

2:09:51 > 2:10:01straight away. That just frees up Boxing fans certainly would have

2:10:01 > 2:10:01

2:10:11 > 2:10:17

2:10:27 > 2:10:38

2:10:38 > 2:10:48split. That looks OK. Does he have an angle to get up topside of the

2:10:48 > 2:11:10

2:11:10 > 2:11:17blue? Cued it nicely. That is Just looking to see if he can get

2:11:17 > 2:11:27through the gap in the reds. It is very tight. There is a little bit

2:11:27 > 2:11:35

2:11:36 > 2:11:45of work. He just played up into that area. Beautiful play. Inch

2:11:46 > 2:11:46

2:11:46 > 2:13:18Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

2:13:18 > 2:13:28perfect. The average frame time This has been absolutely top

2:13:28 > 2:13:49

2:13:49 > 2:13:58A great cheer from the crowd at the Crucible. Ronnie's 10th century of

2:13:58 > 2:14:05this tournament so far. What a shame he did not eclipse that

2:14:05 > 2:14:12previous break. Ronnie O'Sullivan now leading.

2:14:12 > 2:14:20And that is a highly significant century, the 120 eighth for Ronnie

2:14:20 > 2:14:26at the Crucible. Beating the total of Steven Hendry. Shall we ask him

2:14:26 > 2:14:36about his response? No! These records are being eaten into.

2:14:36 > 2:14:37

2:14:37 > 2:14:42was only a matter of time. As long as he plays, he is going to beat a

2:14:42 > 2:14:48lot of records. In terms of the response in the match, just

2:14:48 > 2:14:56stunning. I told Barry to make the most of what he could do. Like a

2:14:56 > 2:15:02true champion, just when he senses danger, he went through the gearbox.

2:15:02 > 2:15:06Absolutely brilliant break. It is something we will be discussing

2:15:06 > 2:15:12from the opening day, very few people have been able to put him

2:15:12 > 2:15:20under pressure. That game against Allister Carter, he missed a key

2:15:20 > 2:15:27ball and after that Ronnie was able to produce the firepower. If you

2:15:27 > 2:15:37made an analogy with the boxer, he would have an iron chin. He really

2:15:37 > 2:15:37

2:15:37 > 2:16:40Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

2:16:40 > 2:16:50can't soak up some punishment. Barry has been proficient at that

2:16:50 > 2:17:03

2:17:03 > 2:17:13distance but luckily for him, he He is just concentrating on the

2:17:13 > 2:17:50

2:17:50 > 2:18:00At first glance it looks as if he has got away with that. Ronnie has

2:18:00 > 2:18:00

2:18:00 > 2:18:08always been brilliant and that, he is never one to shake his head.

2:18:08 > 2:18:15Barry has been lucky, not to have left a pot. Ronnie never showed any

2:18:15 > 2:18:25emotion whatsoever. It is part of the game. He gets it out of his

2:18:25 > 2:18:33

2:18:33 > 2:18:43I think he knows the Braniel of not really worrying about it. There is

2:18:43 > 2:19:16

2:19:16 > 2:19:25nothing you can do about it. -- the That is three shots he has got away

2:19:25 > 2:19:35with. He has missed the last three safety shots and got away with

2:19:35 > 2:19:37

2:19:37 > 2:19:47everyone. Ronnie disappointed not to have got the cue ball back to

2:19:47 > 2:19:53

2:19:53 > 2:20:03baulk. There are a couple of easy safety shots. But Barry is in an

2:20:03 > 2:20:08

2:20:08 > 2:20:14aggressive mood. He does not appear to like it, though. I do not know

2:20:14 > 2:20:24if he'd looked at that plant. If he did, why not played for a colour if

2:20:24 > 2:20:24

2:20:24 > 2:20:33it was a certainty? That has just gone a bit close to the baulk

2:20:34 > 2:20:43cushion. A couple more inches closer to the green and he probably

2:20:44 > 2:20:44

2:20:44 > 2:20:54would have taken the Brown on. looked like it was almost a

2:20:54 > 2:20:58

2:20:59 > 2:21:04I did not see him come down the table. It was not dead set. That

2:21:04 > 2:21:14was the pleasure of Hawkeye, we could not have shown you the

2:21:14 > 2:21:31

2:21:31 > 2:21:41picture without that. And there is Red does not cut to the right

2:21:41 > 2:21:44

2:21:44 > 2:21:54centre. Not so much pressure on this, he will not be leaving

2:21:54 > 2:21:56

2:21:56 > 2:22:06anything should he miss. Ronnie has a half chance on this red but it is

2:22:06 > 2:22:07

2:22:07 > 2:23:09Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

2:23:09 > 2:23:19Barry has played more poor safety shots in this frame than he has

2:23:19 > 2:23:28

2:23:28 > 2:23:38since the opening frame of the match. Once again O'Sullivan

2:23:38 > 2:23:42

2:23:42 > 2:23:50sensing danger. Just played a couple of loose ones in the last

2:23:50 > 2:24:00couple of frames. Straight away attacking the red just above the

2:24:00 > 2:24:07

2:24:07 > 2:24:12black. He me have to go back up for blue. -- he may. He would have

2:24:12 > 2:24:22loved to have been straighter on that red. He will need another good

2:24:22 > 2:24:29

2:24:29 > 2:24:39The red on the right-hand side cushion just making this more

2:24:39 > 2:25:06

2:25:06 > 2:25:15Needed just to miss that middle But he has been very disciplined

2:25:15 > 2:25:24trying to keep the pressure on Barry Hawkins. He will not be too

2:25:24 > 2:25:34happy with that safety shot. He wanted it behind the green.

2:25:34 > 2:26:03

2:26:03 > 2:26:13Suggesting again that the table is He made sure he hit the safety shot

2:26:13 > 2:26:14

2:26:14 > 2:26:22a bit harder. Barry has not potted one of these long straight ones for

2:26:22 > 2:26:28a few shots. This is a tough one. He'd just lost his weight for the

2:26:28 > 2:26:34second. You thought he really had got a foothold in the final and a

2:26:34 > 2:26:44chance to put money under pressure. But he just has not done it. Just a

2:26:44 > 2:26:57

2:26:57 > 2:27:07little bit of movement in his back Just take a look at his back arm.

2:27:07 > 2:27:14

2:27:14 > 2:27:24Just a bit dull movement. -- bit of. That is why he missed that red.

2:27:24 > 2:27:37

2:27:37 > 2:27:47This is where Ronnie is really good. He puts the heat on his opponent.

2:27:47 > 2:28:14

2:28:14 > 2:28:24Once he gets his nose in front he Another one that has just slightly

2:28:24 > 2:28:31

2:28:31 > 2:28:41got away. This red is very close. Great shot. Again short of pace on

2:28:41 > 2:29:10

2:29:10 > 2:29:20Not absolutely perfect. He is the pit straight on this black. It

2:29:20 > 2:29:34

2:29:34 > 2:29:44needs a lot of power. It needs to Everything is going in to the heart

2:29:44 > 2:29:46

2:29:46 > 2:29:51of the pocket at the moment. Barry Hawkins posed a few questions when

2:29:51 > 2:30:01he made that wonderful century break. Monique at the moment is

2:30:01 > 2:30:11

2:30:11 > 2:30:21coming back with the answers. But there are nine frames this

2:30:21 > 2:30:37

2:30:37 > 2:30:47evening. This is not the last frame. to go in and out of baulk. He had to

2:30:47 > 2:31:02

2:31:02 > 2:31:12still not completely happy, but at the moment he is looking at this

2:31:12 > 2:31:36

2:31:36 > 2:31:46so far. This is going to be three centuries in a row. A little

2:31:46 > 2:31:55

2:31:55 > 2:32:05exhibition shot from Ronnie world championship. Number 11 for

2:32:05 > 2:32:13

2:32:13 > 2:32:23won't be bothered. 100 and takes a break from Ronnie O'Sullivan. He

2:32:23 > 2:32:23

2:32:23 > 2:33:18Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

2:33:18 > 2:33:24puts another frame on the board and you will know he only had one match

2:33:24 > 2:33:29before coming to the Crucible this year. Extraordinary stats. And to

2:33:29 > 2:33:33think he is the world number 28, if he wins he goes to 19. If he did

2:33:33 > 2:33:38take a year off, he has to win this to qualify next year. Is under

2:33:38 > 2:33:44pressure. We have talked about pressure and

2:33:44 > 2:33:49what an amazing response. Unbelievable. Looking a bit jaded

2:33:49 > 2:33:54there, played a few loose shots. All of a sudden this is what you get in

2:33:54 > 2:34:02return. From Barry Hawkins perspective, just when you feel you

2:34:02 > 2:34:11are getting a foothold in this match, won. It hits you. You play

2:34:11 > 2:34:20your best snooker and it seems to be Money has that draw in the session

2:34:20 > 2:34:25already. The very next frame he had a long part which is once he has

2:34:25 > 2:34:29been knocking in for the last ten or so friends and he missed that one.

2:34:29 > 2:34:34Ronnie pounced with 103 and then a couple of core safety shots and

2:34:34 > 2:34:42Ronnie wins again. In my opinion, the best break of the match so far.

2:34:42 > 2:34:48He was in and out of baulk and had to play cannon and it was a really

2:34:48 > 2:34:58good break. The best of the match. Barry Hawkins will go into tomorrow

2:34:58 > 2:34:58

2:34:58 > 2:36:04Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

2:36:04 > 2:36:12outside edge of this red. It is a misses this time, he will be warned.

2:36:12 > 2:36:16He has missed it. Now that puts a bit more pressure on that shot. That

2:36:16 > 2:36:22is why he is committed to the end of the table because he is definitely

2:36:22 > 2:36:30going to be hitting this ball almost half ball. He will try to leave the

2:36:30 > 2:36:40cue ball. She must hit a red because if it doesn't this time he will lose

2:36:40 > 2:36:48

2:36:48 > 2:36:54this shot because he wanted to try and leave the cue ball and the red

2:36:54 > 2:37:02almost straight and he hasn't. He has left a slight angle. Very

2:37:02 > 2:37:07difficult down the rails and that is why Ronnie refusing this shot. Not

2:37:07 > 2:37:16only refusing the shops, but keeping Barry Hawkins under pressure.

2:37:16 > 2:37:21Excellent safety. He realises the importance of taking a three frame

2:37:21 > 2:37:26lead or one frame lead, he would have taken that red on. But he is

2:37:26 > 2:37:33such a good thinker under pressure. He knew that it was miscible and

2:37:33 > 2:37:39decided to player safety. This looks very short and he may be

2:37:39 > 2:37:43leading a red into the right centre. This is a long way short. Red into

2:37:43 > 2:37:53the top corner, green pocket, but also the red on the pink spot goes

2:37:53 > 2:37:57

2:37:57 > 2:38:07into the right centre. This will Looks like he is probably screwing

2:38:07 > 2:38:16

2:38:16 > 2:38:22black. I think only the middle one pots in the corner. Whatever cannon

2:38:22 > 2:38:28he has, he has to get it just right. That has not turned out OK unless it

2:38:28 > 2:38:33is a plant. There is one available in the middle. The plan is obviously

2:38:33 > 2:38:38not a certainty. I am surprised he played for the pink on the previous

2:38:38 > 2:38:48red, to be honest, but Ronnie is a genius so I am sure he will dig his

2:38:48 > 2:39:08

2:39:08 > 2:39:15the furthest I have seen Ronnie Mr pot like that. He can't believe it,

2:39:15 > 2:39:19can he? Having made for centuries, there can't be too much wrong with

2:39:19 > 2:39:24the tips surely. He gave this a real good seeing to before the frame

2:39:24 > 2:39:31started and maybe that's often did to the little bit. I have never seen

2:39:31 > 2:39:35him miss a pot by that far. This is a chance to win the session 5-4 and

2:39:35 > 2:39:45close within one. That would be a tremendous performance on the first

2:39:45 > 2:40:16

2:40:16 > 2:40:21day of the first-ever world both players now. I think both of

2:40:21 > 2:40:26them realise the importance of this frame. So hard to understand, isn't

2:40:26 > 2:40:31it? They have both been in absolutely super form. For Barry's

2:40:31 > 2:40:36confidence, to close within one would be an amazing feat, the way

2:40:36 > 2:40:41that Ronnie has played. I am afraid that was a twitch. That wasn't

2:40:41 > 2:40:46anything other than bad alignment and probably just snatched a little

2:40:46 > 2:40:56bit at it. I didn't expect him to miss that one. But it hasn't done

2:40:56 > 2:41:02

2:41:02 > 2:41:05don't think I have seen Ronnie play a better safety than when he was

2:41:05 > 2:41:15playing Ray Reardon. That is the best safety he has played in the

2:41:15 > 2:41:54

2:41:54 > 2:42:04final at the Crucible. This is a straightforward. Playing another

2:42:04 > 2:42:06

2:42:06 > 2:42:11Ronnie looks around the table to see whether White is finishing. Usually

2:42:11 > 2:42:15when he is not feeling good with himself, he knows where the ball

2:42:15 > 2:42:21will go, but he is actually interested to see where it finishes.

2:42:21 > 2:42:28He is really digging deep in this. Barry, at the moment, is telephoning

2:42:28 > 2:42:38his shots in. He is struggling at the minute.

2:42:38 > 2:42:54

2:42:54 > 2:43:00Yeah, he has gone completely off the row. It is nice to see that both

2:43:00 > 2:43:10guys are still human after all. I think both of them realise the

2:43:10 > 2:43:28

2:43:28 > 2:43:35he has played he has hardly get the little bit. -- that pot a little

2:43:35 > 2:43:39bit. What a great picture, the wonder of

2:43:39 > 2:43:49why it is going wrong all of a sudden. And Ronnie is not pleased

2:43:49 > 2:43:50

2:43:50 > 2:44:00frame and he does, he will forget about those last few shots. He goes

2:44:00 > 2:44:01

2:44:01 > 2:44:06to bed having missed those shots, he will be wondering about it all.

2:44:06 > 2:44:11Needed a flick on the red, didn't get it. You can almost see Ronnie

2:44:11 > 2:44:16thinking, do I take this on or not? If he misses it, he knows he will

2:44:16 > 2:44:26stick it up. I wonder if he will play the double

2:44:26 > 2:44:35

2:44:35 > 2:44:40here. Try and stay on the green and a long pot on, but the way he is

2:44:40 > 2:44:44cueing at the moment, I suggest leaving it alone. Looking to see if

2:44:44 > 2:44:48he puts the cue ball somewhere it is now, he will get Ronnie in trouble.

2:44:48 > 2:44:55You need to the red somewhere near where the red is on the blue spot,

2:44:55 > 2:44:58that will be helpful. Certainly in the middle of the table. I don't

2:44:58 > 2:45:03know whether he played the double or not, but he has not played it where

2:45:03 > 2:45:08he wanted. What's worse, he has left the couple

2:45:08 > 2:45:18of reds on the pink spot, the bottom one of the two parts here. So a free

2:45:18 > 2:45:52

2:45:52 > 2:45:58for Barry Hawkins. Should never have hitting full baulk end. He almost

2:45:58 > 2:46:02missed it, didn't he? If the Green had been on its own

2:46:02 > 2:46:12spot, he probably would have missed it. Barry is going to have to play a

2:46:12 > 2:46:36

2:46:36 > 2:46:46liked to have screwed it back another foot, but at least it has

2:46:46 > 2:46:56

2:46:56 > 2:46:59see Barry winning the safety. He trails by 25 points. Such is Ronnie

2:46:59 > 2:47:04safety in this last frame, every time Barry comes to the table he has

2:47:04 > 2:47:08a difficult safety shops to reply. Trying to take the white over the

2:47:08 > 2:47:18pink spot and back into the baulk area. He has to hit it exactly

2:47:18 > 2:47:25

2:47:25 > 2:47:31closest to the right middle, he has to come off that perfectly, Mr red

2:47:31 > 2:47:41below the pink spot and then back-up somewhere behind the green. He must

2:47:41 > 2:47:49

2:47:49 > 2:47:54playing, but it looks like he is trying to find an alternative. Maybe

2:47:54 > 2:48:04he is worried about kissing the blue on the way back. He is not playing

2:48:04 > 2:48:10

2:48:10 > 2:48:20if the black was available, so that is quite a clever shot. Yeah, but he

2:48:20 > 2:48:28

2:48:28 > 2:48:34may find himself down in that problem is having the initiative. He

2:48:34 > 2:48:40is now looking behind the yellow, but he would like to get down behind

2:48:40 > 2:48:44the brown, somewhere close to where the cue ball was before. He can slip

2:48:44 > 2:48:48off the red closest to the right-hand cushion. He wants to try

2:48:48 > 2:48:53and keep that red is tight to the cushion as possible because that

2:48:53 > 2:49:03creates problems for Barry Hawkins. That is why he has tried to put

2:49:03 > 2:49:11

2:49:11 > 2:49:21into the corner. He has purposely put it in a perfect way to leave

2:49:21 > 2:49:31

2:49:31 > 2:49:39There are a couple of reds Ronnie can take on and get the cue ball

2:49:39 > 2:49:49back into the baulk area. Excellent pink pot behind the green with the

2:49:49 > 2:49:49

2:49:49 > 2:50:42Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

2:50:42 > 2:50:49completely missed timing things at moment is pretty good, but he has

2:50:49 > 2:50:56left along one on this time. He has not cued well in the last 20 minutes

2:50:56 > 2:51:06or so. Yeah, this is going to be a real

2:51:06 > 2:51:14

2:51:14 > 2:51:18test, isn't it? He has to stay excellent pot.

2:51:18 > 2:51:28That is up there with one of the best shots he has played tonight

2:51:28 > 2:51:54

2:51:54 > 2:51:58blue. To reds above the black, they both part in the left-hand corner,

2:51:58 > 2:52:02but he would love to get on the middle red of the three above the

2:52:02 > 2:52:12black. Then he can play the little cannon onto that red. How is the

2:52:12 > 2:52:46

2:52:47 > 2:52:53on the pink. To red below the pink, ago clipped one of those red onto

2:52:53 > 2:52:57the right-hand side cushion. That may come to his rescue later on in

2:52:57 > 2:53:07this break, but he is going to need those to reds if he is going to win

2:53:07 > 2:53:34

2:53:34 > 2:53:39shot hard here. I thought he was playing the top red, he may have

2:53:39 > 2:53:46missed a trick. It could have played the screw off the top red. Until he

2:53:46 > 2:53:50gets rid of that red, it is not frame window. If he had gone up for

2:53:50 > 2:53:54the blue and pink, he would have freed the black. This time he has to

2:53:54 > 2:54:04get the angle right. With the angle he has on the pink, there is every

2:54:04 > 2:54:09

2:54:09 > 2:54:15longest frame of the match so far. The first frame over 20 minutes.

2:54:15 > 2:54:19There is a bit of tension in this frame. Once again, he played a poor

2:54:19 > 2:54:29shot on the red. He was perfect on the pink, so should have got the

2:54:29 > 2:54:29

2:54:29 > 2:55:29Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

2:55:29 > 2:55:34Made sure of the pots, of course, but he could've used a little bit

2:55:34 > 2:55:44more pace and been more aggressive and tried to bring this red the

2:55:44 > 2:55:46

2:55:46 > 2:55:53will try to pot this red, but I wouldn't have thought he would try

2:55:53 > 2:56:01to bring the other red into play. He is trying to do that. It was very

2:56:01 > 2:56:05dangerous to do that, but the red has now been brought into play. If

2:56:05 > 2:56:11Barry Hawkins can come out of this session and 9-8, he will certainly

2:56:11 > 2:56:16sleep better than Ronnie. Ronnie has played brilliantly, for centuries,

2:56:16 > 2:56:21other sizeable breaks, there is a possibility he could only lead 9-8,

2:56:21 > 2:56:31so Barry Hawkins will definitely be the more pleased of the two. If he

2:56:31 > 2:56:50

2:56:50 > 2:56:59pink, Betty hazarded that so he will have to try and play the blue with a

2:56:59 > 2:57:09lot of side. This will be a positional shot to play. He doesn't

2:57:09 > 2:57:32

2:57:32 > 2:57:41fancy it, so will only play a safety from the baulk cushion as well, it

2:57:41 > 2:57:46just makes this a little bit more difficult. The problem is not

2:57:46 > 2:57:51hitting the red, it is getting it safe. He is going to leave a free

2:57:51 > 2:58:01ball and this could be crucial. That is an absolute disaster for Barry

2:58:01 > 2:58:15

2:58:15 > 2:58:20Hawkins. Not quite sure why he had doesn't want it to be dead straight.

2:58:20 > 2:58:30Maybe just OK. He has a slight angle just screw back, miss the middle

2:58:30 > 2:58:47

2:58:47 > 2:58:54pocket where he be cueing. Avoid the onto the pink, so may decide to come

2:58:54 > 2:58:59around the back of the pink and get on to pink or blue. If he plays it

2:58:59 > 2:59:09slowly he could get onto the pink. He could be virtually straight on

2:59:09 > 2:59:14

2:59:14 > 2:59:24shots, but he will be virtually straight on the pink. Didn't see the

2:59:24 > 2:59:52

2:59:52 > 3:00:02value of playing for the pink at Trying to get the cue ball just

3:00:02 > 3:00:05

3:00:05 > 3:00:15three or four inches to the right of the black. What a shot. You will

3:00:15 > 3:00:27

3:00:27 > 3:00:37not see many better safety shots It is not hitting them, it is

3:00:37 > 3:00:54

3:00:54 > 3:01:01getting them safe. Has he got it Judd Trump would love this shot.

3:01:01 > 3:01:11He'd decided not to screw back but to run through. Almost perfect but

3:01:11 > 3:01:31

3:01:31 > 3:01:41This green is very important. He did not go for that. What a shot he

3:01:41 > 3:01:43

3:01:43 > 3:01:49has played there. That is at fantastic snooker. No wonder Barry

3:01:49 > 3:01:59is scratching his head. Two of the best safety shops we have seen in

3:01:59 > 3:02:20

3:02:20 > 3:02:27Would you believe it! It is Barry's turn to try to get the cue ball.

3:02:27 > 3:02:37His target would be to kiss the black. He just has to missed the

3:02:37 > 3:02:44

3:02:44 > 3:02:54blue by a fraction to get this shot The blue was in the way. Just seven

3:02:54 > 3:03:27

3:03:27 > 3:03:37I am not sure if he can hold for Is it there again for the third

3:03:37 > 3:03:49

3:03:49 > 3:03:59time in this frame? Is there at This would be unbelievable. What a

3:03:59 > 3:04:06

3:04:06 > 3:04:16shot! Just had enough gap. He is 11 ahead. Just needs the blue. That is

3:04:16 > 3:04:40

3:04:40 > 3:04:46Brilliant shot on the brown. Trying to knock the pink say. -- safe.

3:04:46 > 3:04:56could of course to try and played that snooker. But will he take on

3:04:56 > 3:05:04

3:05:04 > 3:05:13He did play it but you know what is going to happen here. The White

3:05:13 > 3:05:23will be kissing the black. He has under hit this. That was careless

3:05:23 > 3:05:27

3:05:27 > 3:05:37for Ronnie. He had so much margin for error there. He'd just had too

3:05:37 > 3:05:39

3:05:39 > 3:05:49much side. Definitely worth having a go at this. It is a tough safety

3:05:49 > 3:05:52

3:05:52 > 3:06:02shot to play it any other way. long as he does not undercut it. If

3:06:02 > 3:06:22

3:06:22 > 3:06:32he over cuts it, it may still come The pink, you can pot. The black,

3:06:32 > 3:06:32

3:06:32 > 3:06:42probably not. There is Barry's friends and family. They have got

3:06:42 > 3:06:50

3:06:50 > 3:07:00their fingers crossed because this Do you play the guaranteed safety

3:07:00 > 3:07:09

3:07:09 > 3:07:19shot? It is the safety. He has over hit it. The crowd knew it straight

3:07:19 > 3:07:29

3:07:29 > 3:07:34away. Ronni knew it straight away. -- Ronnie. Black for the frame.

3:07:34 > 3:07:41What a tremendous frame. Both players should be pleased with

3:07:41 > 3:07:50their night's work. A standing ovation for these great players. It

3:07:50 > 3:07:55is Ronnie O'Sullivan who takes a three frame leader. What again.

3:07:55 > 3:08:03What an game indeed. Superb stuff from these two finalists. And

3:08:03 > 3:08:12Ronnie taking that three frame advantage into tomorrow. Clearly

3:08:12 > 3:08:17that meant so much to both of them. Hands shaking all round. But it has

3:08:17 > 3:08:23certainly been a contest. Barry Hawkins playing is superb part in

3:08:23 > 3:08:31his final. We are leaving the close support for the first -- the last

3:08:31 > 3:08:40time tonight, crossing over to the Winter Gardens. And the Three Wise

3:08:40 > 3:08:45men are with me. How would you rate that final frame of the session?

3:08:45 > 3:08:52was such a fantastic frame. Ronnie O'Sullivan worked his socks off to

3:08:52 > 3:08:58get that frame. He just held himself together. Even though he

3:08:58 > 3:09:08looked quite Karen Shaw, it was a fantastic pressure pot on the black.

3:09:08 > 3:09:16How crucial is that? It is massive. Barry Hawkins was making breaks,

3:09:16 > 3:09:23and that last frame, he was granite. Every time he came to the table he

3:09:23 > 3:09:30was trouble. That was a great block at the end. And hugely enjoyable

3:09:30 > 3:09:35final so far. You could see what it meant to him. He knew the

3:09:35 > 3:09:40significance of that. And that deficit for Barry now is hard

3:09:40 > 3:09:46coming out tomorrow. How do you assess the contribution made by

3:09:46 > 3:09:51Barry to this final? He is one of those players who never goes away.

3:09:51 > 3:09:57His play is solid. He has missed a few but he is somebody that you

3:09:57 > 3:10:03have to beat. Is this a bigger test for Ronnie O'Sullivan than he might

3:10:03 > 3:10:09have imagined? I do not think he will have gone in prepared to blast

3:10:09 > 3:10:14him off the table. He was compared to compete. But Barry Hawkins can

3:10:14 > 3:10:20be proud of himself today. You would expect that Ronnie O'Sullivan

3:10:20 > 3:10:27would produce but for Barry Hawkins, what else can he do? He has done

3:10:27 > 3:10:37his job. He lost both sessions, but not by much. He has been great

3:10:37 > 3:10:44today. He has played so well. He can be proud of his performance.

3:10:44 > 3:10:49what extent has the table speed dictated some of the played today?

3:10:50 > 3:10:55I do not think that Ronnie has been happy with that. It is the same for

3:10:55 > 3:11:05both players. And they have adapted really well. There have been big

3:11:05 > 3:11:06

3:11:06 > 3:11:12breaks. They have just got on with it. How is it set up for tomorrow?

3:11:12 > 3:11:16It would be nicer if it was just the one frame in it. But I think

3:11:16 > 3:11:20Ronnie O'Sullivan deserves his lead. It is whether he can push on in the

3:11:20 > 3:11:25session tomorrow afternoon for stock thank you for your

3:11:25 > 3:11:31contributions. We take our leave of the Crucible tonight. Let me just

3:11:31 > 3:11:37tell you what else we have got coming up on BBC Sport. We have

3:11:37 > 3:11:46coverage of the last day of the Badminton Horse trials. The all-

3:11:46 > 3:11:52important show jumping stage tomorrow. A possible 18 more frames
