:00:35. > :00:40.Good afternoon. It is that time of year already. It has come round so

:00:41. > :00:45.quickly. The World Snooker Championship. You join us as we are

:00:46. > :00:50.getting ready for our second live session of the day. We have been on

:00:51. > :01:02.a since Tony M with Ronnie O'Sullivan's opening session. He is

:01:03. > :01:09.against the world number 122. We are focusing on two Englishman, an

:01:10. > :01:15.Irishman and a Scotsman. How is it down in the corridor? It is very

:01:16. > :01:20.tense. The players are already to go. They have had their 15 or 20

:01:21. > :01:38.minutes and it is time to go out. Good afternoon, ladies and

:01:39. > :01:42.gentlemen. What a tremendous atmosphere we have at the Crucible,

:01:43. > :01:50.the opening day of the Championship continues in earnest. Four of the

:01:51. > :02:02.very best in the business. Slicker's Bonaly to the season --

:02:03. > :02:10.finale. Back into the top 20 after a good season, he enjoyed a fine run

:02:11. > :02:30.to the quarters two years ago, Ryan Day.

:02:31. > :02:38.His opponent, a player who has twice graced the semis at the Crucible,

:02:39. > :02:52.winner of five ranking titles, the pride of Glasgow, when he is good

:02:53. > :03:07.years on fire, Stephen Maguire. -- he is on fire. On table number one,

:03:08. > :03:14.a player making his first appearance here for three years, former regular

:03:15. > :03:19.in the world top 16, now on his way back up the world rankings, beating

:03:20. > :03:41.Mark King to be here, he is the shot gun from Stoke, Jamie Cope. His

:03:42. > :03:44.opponent, a class act, he won his first ranking event title in three

:03:45. > :03:51.years last month, beating Mark Selby. He has changed his diet and

:03:52. > :04:20.lifestyle and is reinvigorated as a result. He is the magician, Shaun

:04:21. > :04:25.Murphy. Both tables available live, red button and online options. We

:04:26. > :04:37.are going to stick with Jamie Cope and Shaun Murphy. Jamie Cope showing

:04:38. > :04:46.real character to keep going. We have Stephen Hendry and Dennis

:04:47. > :04:54.Taylor in the commentary box. Good afternoon to everyone watching.

:04:55. > :05:05.It is great to CJ Mickel back at the Crucible. -- see Jamie Cope. He lost

:05:06. > :05:21.his way a little bit. Fabulous talent. A tremendous potter when he

:05:22. > :05:39.gets going. Shaun Murphy has turned his game

:05:40. > :05:50.around. That was a bad misjudgement. It looks as if this

:05:51. > :05:57.red might pot into the left corner. It is a bit close. You have to be

:05:58. > :06:15.careful you do not push this. It was awkward, and he has left it

:06:16. > :06:31.up for Shaun Murphy. That seemed to kick that. It looked as if he was

:06:32. > :06:39.going to pot it. This table is playing beautifully, it is very

:06:40. > :06:50.fast. It always takes awhile to get used to the speed the table. --

:06:51. > :07:14.speed off the table. Pretty good safety shot. Just a

:07:15. > :07:37.little bit sticky notes. A little bit awkward at the moment

:07:38. > :07:47.with the black in the bunch, but that will soon change as they play

:07:48. > :07:59.safety shots. The black is now in play, and the pink. We might see a

:08:00. > :08:12.Shaun Murphy special. He likes to take this type of shot on.

:08:13. > :08:29.He can strike them much better than that. Very close. He may be able to

:08:30. > :08:50.follow through for the pink. You mentioned about his

:08:51. > :08:56.break-building , he has lost count of the number of maximums he has

:08:57. > :09:09.made in practice and he has made the magical 155 in practice. He had a

:09:10. > :09:49.free ball and ineffective puts an extra red and black on the table.

:09:50. > :10:02.That has spoilt him taking the red to the left corner. The simple red.

:10:03. > :10:11.He might be able to drop it in and finish on the black. He is going to

:10:12. > :10:26.try to cut this one back into the right corner. That was a very thin

:10:27. > :10:36.shot. He has left that red that he attempted. Just a bit too thick. Not

:10:37. > :10:48.much margin for getting onto the black, but the pink Magor -- pink

:10:49. > :10:59.perhaps. That is unlucky. Very unlucky. He can get the green and I

:11:00. > :11:04.think he can bridge to the side of the pink. He might be able to pot

:11:05. > :11:30.the green and get up past the blue. He looks to be cueing extremely

:11:31. > :11:34.well. He is very relaxed. It does not matter how experienced you are.

:11:35. > :11:38.The first frame you are always a little bit tight. He looks really

:11:39. > :11:54.composed at the minute. It is 2005 when Shaun Murphy won his

:11:55. > :12:05.World Championship year. It certainly does not seem that long

:12:06. > :12:07.ago. Against Matthew Stevens, it was an unbelievable victory, Matthew was

:12:08. > :12:29.odds-on favourite to win. The cushions look as if they are

:12:30. > :12:32.reacting very quickly so far. Almost twice as fast coming off as when it

:12:33. > :13:08.goes on, that makes it quite tricky. That was a terrific long pot. The

:13:09. > :13:20.pink is going to be tight. What a chance for Jamie Cope. He has the

:13:21. > :13:22.reds open. The black is not on its sport, but that is not causing a

:13:23. > :14:05.problem. -- spot. Not the best. I think he is still

:14:06. > :14:12.OK. That is not where he wanted the cue ball. It means he will have to

:14:13. > :14:24.head up for the blue or the black again. Trying to hold it for the

:14:25. > :15:00.blue. He is perfect, he is the right angle, although it did get contact.

:15:01. > :15:14.This is exactly the opportunity that you are praying for in the first

:15:15. > :16:25.frame. Just keep your concentration. Not a lot to do with the cue ball.

:16:26. > :16:33.We will show you the shot that created this chance. He did not have

:16:34. > :16:55.played that any better. He will settle down if he can clinch

:16:56. > :17:01.the frame on this visit. Even someone like him who has been a

:17:02. > :17:02.winner several times, the first couple of frames you are always a

:17:03. > :17:33.little bit nervous. Not the start Shaun Murphy was

:17:34. > :17:51.looking for. It is the best of 19, so a long way to go.

:17:52. > :19:08.He certainly wobbled that one. The frame is well and truly over.

:19:09. > :19:29.Can he convert this red along the cushion and give himself the chance

:19:30. > :19:38.of a century? The chance is there. What a great way to start the World

:19:39. > :19:42.Championship. That is a shame. We are not going to get a century

:19:43. > :19:44.break, but he will not be too disappointed. He takes the opening

:19:45. > :19:59.frame. He will be feeling good. He has had a rotten time over the

:20:00. > :20:07.past four years. He was suffering from a really debilitating

:20:08. > :20:14.situation. He could not release the cue, he had a nervous disposition,

:20:15. > :20:18.he was having a torrid time. I said to him, by the looks of it you need

:20:19. > :20:27.somebody more qualified than me, somebody with medical help. It was

:20:28. > :20:34.serious. He was close to packing in. He was physically shaking over the

:20:35. > :20:40.shot. He could not release the cue. A really difficult thing to come

:20:41. > :20:47.back from. Having no knowledge of that, it is hard to talk about it,

:20:48. > :20:55.other than that when it happens to players they do not recover. That is

:20:56. > :20:59.the end of it. That is from people I remember playing snooker and in

:21:00. > :21:03.other sports. To come here and qualify and turn up against a top

:21:04. > :21:09.class player and win in style the first frame is proof of the progress

:21:10. > :21:15.he has made. It is tough for anybody to come out and get off to a good

:21:16. > :21:23.start. We jobs about ten not getting off to a good start, Jamie Cope has

:21:24. > :21:34.done seemingly be impossible. I think both players will have been

:21:35. > :21:35.reasonably happy with this draw. Shaun Murphy likes people to play

:21:36. > :21:54.attacking snooker. That happened to Patsy Fagan, who

:21:55. > :22:01.did not recover from it. It was when he was using the rest it started

:22:02. > :22:29.with. He could not let old of the cue. He had to give up in the end.

:22:30. > :22:34.It looks as if he is playing a safety, in fact he was trying to pot

:22:35. > :22:54.it. It is amazing what you can see from

:22:55. > :23:01.the commentary box. I have never seen anyone address the ball that

:23:02. > :23:06.much of line. You would think that cannot be an effective way to

:23:07. > :23:07.consistently play well but he is very naturally talented, so he gets

:23:08. > :23:37.away with it. If they play a few more shots like

:23:38. > :24:01.this, it might start the frame again. Touching ball would have

:24:02. > :24:08.helped. It will never catch on. Can I give you a couple of shots each?

:24:09. > :24:20.That is the right thing to do because it is a little bit of a

:24:21. > :24:31.stalemate. He can get that on the table this time. He has purposely

:24:32. > :24:57.left that escape route. He has played a bit of a careless shot.

:24:58. > :25:07.He has a tough shot to avoid the red closest to the corner. That is

:25:08. > :25:40.pretty good. I am just wondering if there is one

:25:41. > :25:46.red he can pot into the left corner and miss the black. I think he is

:25:47. > :25:52.having a look to see if he has the angle to do that. He is looking at

:25:53. > :25:55.the poor thing angle and will be more concerned about the cue ball.

:25:56. > :26:10.He will have to be a bit careful. Cueing up with so much right hand

:26:11. > :26:18.side, and when he delivers, he brings it back on line. I suppose

:26:19. > :26:28.you could compare that to a golf swing.

:26:29. > :26:46.It is all about getting those balls into the hole.

:26:47. > :27:05.That is the secret. It does not matter how you do it.

:27:06. > :27:13.Looking to see which one of these reds has an angle. Not a bad

:27:14. > :27:38.opportunity. The first day, brand-new cloth, so

:27:39. > :27:52.they tend to go more than in a few days.

:27:53. > :28:08.This is a great chance. He has them sitting nicely. The red next to the

:28:09. > :28:20.black is a little bit of a distraction, but the black will

:28:21. > :28:28.still pot. He could not quite reached that. He is over six feet

:28:29. > :28:30.tall. Having to boot the extension on to give him a little more

:28:31. > :29:49.leveraged. He is doing well, but everything is

:29:50. > :30:26.finishing a little awkward. That was the one I thought he would

:30:27. > :30:31.get but these pockets are quite tight. If you cut it near jaw, they

:30:32. > :30:56.will not go in. Look at the shape of the reds, like

:30:57. > :31:12.a little question mark. That is the question. What is the

:31:13. > :32:02.answer? The shot was on, but he chose to

:32:03. > :32:05.play a more conservative shot. When you have not won your first frame,

:32:06. > :32:15.you tend to take the more conservative approach. They are just

:32:16. > :32:18.in between friends on the other table. They were telling the

:32:19. > :32:25.occupants to be quiet. That is how close they are. -- they are between

:32:26. > :32:30.frames on the other table. It is like two different theatres, the

:32:31. > :32:38.Crucible, when you get to semifinal stage. There is one table that is

:32:39. > :33:48.absolutely amazing. People are so close to the action.

:33:49. > :34:24.Nice angle on the blue to do what he wants.

:34:25. > :34:36.He just needs a cannon on the red to the left. That would be OK.

:34:37. > :34:42.I would not have played the cannon onto that one. Might be OK, though.

:34:43. > :35:01.Almost put himself out of position. Good recovery. He had a couple of

:35:02. > :35:03.choices here. Maybe he just misjudged that and planned to hit

:35:04. > :35:22.the one to the right. Now, you would expect it to be frame

:35:23. > :35:42.over. Very important for Shaun to clinch

:35:43. > :36:37.the frame with this visit. He is not wasting any time, playing

:36:38. > :36:54.at a nice pace, which usually means the player is high on confidence.

:36:55. > :37:09.Shaun has made 38 centuries this season.

:37:10. > :38:21.Always great to watch. Such a good cue action.

:38:22. > :39:15.Can Shaun make the century? There is an indication of the cue power he

:39:16. > :39:39.And perfectly on the black as well. What a match. Jamie Cope, 75 in the

:39:40. > :40:13.opening frame. Shaun Murphy, a century. It is looking good.

:40:14. > :40:19.Well, day one is unfolding nice hair, and social media plays a big

:40:20. > :40:28.part in that. You can contact us via the usual outlets. Memorise them

:40:29. > :40:42.before they are gone. There are a huge high-profile tweeters here.

:40:43. > :40:48.Mark King lost to Jamie Cope, who is in action, so he knows how well

:40:49. > :41:09.Jamie Cope is playing. I don't think retirement is due yet, Mark King.

:41:10. > :41:14.It is a fantastic arena, and we are joined by two players who have had

:41:15. > :41:17.marvellous moments here, as even Hendry and Dennis Taylor, who were

:41:18. > :41:22.talking us through the action. Dennis Taylor, the 1985 world

:41:23. > :41:24.champion. Talk us through those last moments of that fantastic match,

:41:25. > :41:35.Dennis. Thank you, Steve. I am lost for

:41:36. > :41:42.words. Don't be shy, Dennis. You know you want to. Well, it all

:41:43. > :41:46.started... Bit of an awkward frame already, with the red up to the left

:41:47. > :43:01.of the blue. Shaun could have played that with a

:43:02. > :43:11.touch of stunt to make it more difficult.

:43:12. > :43:42.I have got no more to say about these shots, Dennis.

:43:43. > :44:18.A bit more pace would have been better.

:44:19. > :44:24.A good pot, but it was a free shot for him.

:44:25. > :44:37.Ooh. He may have got away with it. He took his eye off the black bear.

:44:38. > :44:45.-- there. He will be disappointed, missing

:44:46. > :45:28.that lack. -- black. I don't think he thought he had hit

:45:29. > :45:59.it hard enough. Shows how fast the table is.

:46:00. > :46:20.He is trying to get into the bunch here.

:46:21. > :46:26.There is a possible pot up into the right corner. But there is no value

:46:27. > :46:56.in it. Shaun was trying to go somewhere

:46:57. > :49:19.along that line. This third frame has gone a bit

:49:20. > 3:22:01awkward, with the pink and black up the other end of the table.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Jamie would normally take this read on the left corner. He is a very

3:22:02 > 3:22:01attacking player. If the black was on its spot, he

3:22:02 > 3:22:01would try and have a go at it. But it is awkward, with the colours of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the other end of the table. Jamie was shaking his head when he

3:22:02 > 3:22:01played that. Has that run far enough to prevent

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Shaun taking this red to the left of the blue? Does the red pot into the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01corner? Well, that has opened the bunch up.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01This is going to finish awkward. Sometimes, that is as good as a

3:22:02 > 3:22:01snooker. That was a great shot. The contact

3:22:02 > 3:22:01on the red was really well played. It is not a straightforward return

3:22:02 > 3:22:01here. If he takes the one nearest the blue, it would be a very thin

3:22:02 > 3:22:01contact. Sometimes in this sort of situation, you use another red as a

3:22:02 > 3:22:01stopper and screw it straight back into the ball-carrier. -- bolt area.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Well, what a result he has had there. He has left himself on the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01black. He did not take advantage of his bit

3:22:02 > 3:22:01of good fortune. Strange shot. He was a long way short of where he

3:22:02 > 3:22:01wanted the cue ball. As he hit it a bit too hard? Maybe

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Shaun can get to the edge of this red.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01It is pretty annoying when that happens, you know you should have

3:22:02 > 3:22:01had the play and you come back to the table and he has you exactly

3:22:02 > 3:22:01where you should have had him. It is incredible how often that happens.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01The simplest of shots, you do not pay enough attention and you lose

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the advantage completely. If he is straight on this red to the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01left-centre, he can go onto the black. The one nearest the black he

3:22:02 > 3:22:01can get up for the blue. Well played.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01That is a shocker. That is the first really bad shot he has played so

3:22:02 > 3:22:01far. It should have been no problem getting on the red to the right

3:22:02 > 3:22:01corner. About five minutes ago, all the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01reds were sitting in a perfect position. They are starting to get

3:22:02 > 3:22:01tied up. Two quick frames. This one has been

3:22:02 > 3:22:01rather awkward. It has been going just over 22.5 minutes.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01This type of frame does not suit either player. They both like to get

3:22:02 > 3:22:01on with it. This could take a while to get a winner in this third frame.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01The long frames are the ones you want to win. From a psychological

3:22:02 > 3:22:01point of view. It helps to win an awkward long frame.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01If this red is straight he can take it into the left middle and get

3:22:02 > 3:22:01himself on the black. Even if it is not straight, he still might be able

3:22:02 > 3:22:01to have a go at it. That was a chance. It has flicked

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the other reds. The white is close. It is OK. He can

3:22:02 > 3:22:01drop the blue M. He has had a couple of chances already. He played a poor

3:22:02 > 3:22:01black into the right corner pocket and did not get on a red. It is not

3:22:02 > 3:22:01an easy chance by any means. Could have done with being a little

3:22:02 > 3:22:01bit further to the right with the cue ball. He will not play it with

3:22:02 > 3:22:01too much pace. He might play the cannon on the two

3:22:02 > 3:22:01reds. He looked to have the angle to play

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the shot you suggested. He definitely did not try that. You

3:22:02 > 3:22:01would think if he missed the cannon he would have a chance of the others

3:22:02 > 3:22:01to the left of centre. It was worth the risk.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01He cannot just come off a cushion and land onto those two reds.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01That was not careful. He could not see a shot. Sometimes you come to

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the table and there is no shot available to you. I am not sure what

3:22:02 > 3:22:01he intended there. Surely not. He has finished tied on

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the red. He cannot see the black. Amazing. You could try that shot

3:22:02 > 3:22:01another ten times and you would not finish in that position. A little

3:22:02 > 3:22:01nudge on the red. A little bit short. Very unlucky.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Is there a path through for the red? Plenty of room.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01What was that shot? That has confused him. I think that has

3:22:02 > 3:22:01confused everybody. I think he was trying for topspin and just hit it

3:22:02 > 3:22:01too fool. It has come off two cushions and it has gone straighter

3:22:02 > 3:22:01than planned. With these scrappy games, sometimes

3:22:02 > 3:22:01you take your eye off the ball. When you have a long tactical battle, you

3:22:02 > 3:22:01do lose your rhythm. You need a good chance. To get things back to

3:22:02 > 3:22:01normal. We know they are both cueing very well.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Already over 30 minutes. There's not a lot the can do. -- players can do.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01He is not going to be on a colour, but he can play the snooker.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Another fraction and he would have been nicely on the green. He is

3:22:02 > 3:22:01looking at the green. He took the positive shot. That was

3:22:02 > 3:22:01very attacking. It was the right shot. Unfortunately for Jamie, he

3:22:02 > 3:22:01missed it. He has presented Shaun with the opportunity.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01It is all about getting a good angle on the black in a couple of shots.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01That looked pretty close to being a plant. I do not think he will play

3:22:02 > 3:22:01for that, but it might be close. The pockets are allowing the balls

3:22:02 > 3:22:01to go in with a little bit of wriggle. He might play for the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01plant. Could have finished better. Played it well enough.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01It will still cut in, but he does not like it. He is looking to the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01one to the middle again. A little bit unlucky with that cannon. He

3:22:02 > 3:22:01could have finished nicely. It just ran or word for him. -- awkward. He

3:22:02 > 3:22:01played it perfectly. He got the gap between the reds.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01That made be worth Jamie having a go at this red. Why not? The white is

3:22:02 > 3:22:01going to be whizzing up and down the table.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01It all depends how he drops on this paper. He might be on it in such a

3:22:02 > 3:22:01wiki can move that last red. If not he can take the pink and leave a

3:22:02 > 3:22:01double on the red. I think the fact he was using the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01rest made that shot a lot more difficult. If it was the other side

3:22:02 > 3:22:01of the table he would definitely have played the cannon. They are

3:22:02 > 3:22:01going in a little bit easier than perhaps they well in a couple of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01days. The cloth is brand-new. That is a great shot. You mentioned

3:22:02 > 3:22:01about Shaun Murphy being the best, this shot that Jamie has pulled off

3:22:02 > 3:22:01was right up there. This is key that he gets up onto the green. He has to

3:22:02 > 3:22:01stun NASA little bit which makes it a bit more difficult. -- stun this a

3:22:02 > 3:22:01little bit. He may have to use the rest. I do

3:22:02 > 3:22:01not know if he can reach this. He played one terrific shot with the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01rest. He is looking to see if he can reach it with the extension. He

3:22:02 > 3:22:01needs the green to leave Shaun needing snookers.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01He made sure of the green. The brown will make absolutely sure, but this

3:22:02 > 3:22:01is far from easy. Good cueing. It was important to get

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the brown in. It was a scrappy frame, a lot of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01tactical play, the balls went very awkward, but in the end Jamie Cope

3:22:02 > 3:22:01will be delighted. That gets Jamie Cope into the lead. They could not

3:22:02 > 3:22:01do much about that, the balls were very awkward and scrappy. They

3:22:02 > 3:22:01battled through for nearly 40 minutes, just over 40 minutes, and

3:22:02 > 3:22:01in the end those are great frames to win from a psychological point of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01view. It knocks you out of your rhythm. Both players won the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01previous two frames in one visit. Both players played some careless

3:22:02 > 3:22:01shots in that frame, but the safety play was excellent. This was the one

3:22:02 > 3:22:01for me. That was a gem, down the cushion, they do not get any better

3:22:02 > 3:22:01than that. I think he has his cloth. He might want to get one of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the people to their it for him -- damp it. I used to use the bottle of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01water provided to do that. The only problem is, you get a puddle on your

3:22:02 > 3:22:01seat. It is good stuff. One more frame before the mid-session

3:22:02 > 3:22:01interval. Wouldn't it be something of Jamie Cope could take a 3-1 lead?

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Lots of noise from the other side of the arena. People will be going out

3:22:02 > 3:22:01for a coffee. The noise never used to put me off,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01but what did put me off was the brush on the table on the other

3:22:02 > 3:22:01side, you can hear the swipes. It is one of these things that makes

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the Crucible so special. That long shot was pretty special. Strikes

3:22:02 > 3:22:01these as well as anybody in the game. -- he strikes. A couple of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01reds he can play on here. He could come off two cushions and

3:22:02 > 3:22:01go into the bunch if he felt like it. He did not want to catch the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01loose red. That red took all the pace off the cue ball.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Very unfortunate to finish in that position. Now we are left with a

3:22:02 > 3:22:01very awkward situation. There is a safety zone down the left side of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the table. A little bit of a stalemate again.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01This could be one of the situations where the referee might give the two

3:22:02 > 3:22:01boys a couple of shots each. Touching ball always helps. It is

3:22:02 > 3:22:01awkward to play the safety with the red being in baulk.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Jamie has beat Shaun on a couple of occasions, 5-0 at one point and 6-3

3:22:02 > 3:22:01at another. He would like to take that one again. Of the head tells

3:22:02 > 3:22:01you what he thinks of that. -- this shake.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01When he pots this red, it frees the red for the right-hand corner.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Cannot go into the bunch just yet because of the position of those two

3:22:02 > 3:22:01reds. There is always a few options

3:22:02 > 3:22:01available to the player. He does not Billy wants to catch

3:22:02 > 3:22:01that pool ball, about three quarters would do it. That is not bad. The

3:22:02 > 3:22:01white has run up the table. One more good pot needed and I think a great

3:22:02 > 3:22:01chance to take this fourth frame. He timed that beautifully. Getting

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the cue ball to sit in behind the black.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01It is one of the nicest shots in the game, the stun shot, it is so

3:22:02 > 3:22:01difficult to play. You cannot really teach someone. It is all about

3:22:02 > 3:22:01feel. I think he has got one to the right

3:22:02 > 3:22:01middle. With the ball sitting like this, it

3:22:02 > 3:22:01looks odds-on to be two each. I think Jamie Cope will be feeling

3:22:02 > 3:22:01pretty good. If Shaun does make another century,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01that will be two century breaks, and he will be all square with Shaun

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Murphy. Jamie is having a quick look at the score, but he has conceded,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01and we go to the mid-session interval with a very high standard

3:22:02 > 3:22:01of care here. We are all square. HAZEL IRVINE: it has been very

3:22:02 > 3:22:01watchable. We had a 40 minute frame in the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01third, but overall, you were bang on. It has the makings of a very

3:22:02 > 3:22:01close match. Yes. The two players like to get on with it. Boast both

3:22:02 > 3:22:01of them like to score heavily. Because of health concerns over the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01last years, we have not seen much of Jamie Cope,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01last years, we have not seen much of emerged, we saw him when he was

3:22:02 > 3:22:01last years, we have not seen much of or 22 at the Grand Prix final in

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Aberdeen. And this guy really is a magnificent potter when he gets in

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the groove. Yes, he was fearlessly going about his work. It was a bit

3:22:02 > 3:22:01sad to see him losing the edge and losing his confidence and getting

3:22:02 > 3:22:01down on himself. Great to see him back at the Crucible. All of a

3:22:02 > 3:22:01sudden, he is not going to turn over Shaun Murphy at the moment, but he

3:22:02 > 3:22:01is causing problems for him. We know about Jamie's potting ability and we

3:22:02 > 3:22:01know about Shaun's hallmarks with the rest. But there was a shot you

3:22:02 > 3:22:01saw earlier when Jamie used the rest.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01We are going to show you that. If you go over that of the table, I

3:22:02 > 3:22:01will explain. So, a bit of analysis for you. Jamie Cope with the rest.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01There was the situation he ended up in. As a snooker player, you live

3:22:02 > 3:22:01and die by the percentages. You are thinking, is it worth taking on?

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Yes. In potting it, can he win the frame? That is the first risk. Also,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01if you missed the shot, will it go safe. And what percentage chance is

3:22:02 > 3:22:01it 's let's run this and see what he did.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01That was a beautiful shot. It was a really high tariff of a shot. So

3:22:02 > 3:22:01much so, that we are going to ask you to do this. Me? I am in a

3:22:02 > 3:22:01vulnerable situation at the moment. Why? We are going to give you five

3:22:02 > 3:22:01goes at this shot down the cushion. I will give it my best. If you do

3:22:02 > 3:22:01two out of this, you are doing very well indeed. I will try one.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Unlucky. I was pleased with that as a shot. This is how difficult these

3:22:02 > 3:22:01tables are, down the cushion. Draw again. This is a bit damp. I think

3:22:02 > 3:22:01they have been watering the plants! The same place all the time. I am

3:22:02 > 3:22:01not happy. Try number four. Brilliant job. A readjustment is the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01way forward. One out of five, a 20% chance. Steve

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Davis, you should try and get on the professional tour. You are not bad.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01I will think about it. Thank you very much for the demonstration. It

3:22:02 > 3:22:01went exceedingly well . It rather exceeded our expectations. We are

3:22:02 > 3:22:01going to concentrate on the match on the other side of the arena this

3:22:02 > 3:22:01afternoon. It features Stephen Maguire, who has been burning to get

3:22:02 > 3:22:01back to the Crucible after losing in the opening round to the guy who

3:22:02 > 3:22:01charmed us own -- charmed us all, Dechawat Poomjaeng. He had all kinds

3:22:02 > 3:22:01of clown antics that we loved. But it was not so funny for Maguire, and

3:22:02 > 3:22:01of clown antics that we loved. But he has come back with a bit of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01of clown antics that we loved. But problem. He has had back problems

3:22:02 > 3:22:01over the last three months. He has not won a significant

3:22:02 > 3:22:01over the last three months. He has last three major events. So

3:22:02 > 3:22:01over the last three months. He has see how he gets on now against Ryan

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Day, three-time quarterfinalist. Before we do, a quick look at

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Maguire's career timeline. I was born in Glasgow on the 13th of

3:22:02 > 3:22:01March, 19 81. In 1999, I won the amateur championship. Males are

3:22:02 > 3:22:01turned professional in 1999. I won my first ranking title in Malta in

3:22:02 > 3:22:012004. And I won the UK championship in the same year. In 2013, I won my

3:22:02 > 3:22:01fifth ranking title at the Welsh open. I have made two competitive

3:22:02 > 3:22:01147 maximum breaks. I have reached two World Championship semifinals. I

3:22:02 > 3:22:01am marriage to Sharon and I have three children, Finn, faith and

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Farah. Ryan Day looks to have the most

3:22:02 > 3:22:01perfect cue action. But when he comes under pressure, he is prone to

3:22:02 > 3:22:01miss queueing. If you look at the matches he has

3:22:02 > 3:22:01miss queueing. If you look at the years, when he comes really

3:22:02 > 3:22:01miss queueing. If you look at the pressure, he gets a bit tight at the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01miss queueing. If you look at the back and jams up the ball. We have

3:22:02 > 3:22:01seen him miscue and jump over the black. With his cue action, he has

3:22:02 > 3:22:01got to be a bit looser black. With his cue action, he has

3:22:02 > 3:22:01pressure is on. I sometimes get black. With his cue action, he has

3:22:02 > 3:22:01feeling that he is not completely in control of the cue power he has got.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01He wants to screw back a couple of inches, and he will screw it back

3:22:02 > 3:22:01six inches. He has such a great technique. He can play every shot

3:22:02 > 3:22:01there is on the table. I just wonder sometimes, there is that

3:22:02 > 3:22:01inconsistency of striking that makes him run out of position. To think

3:22:02 > 3:22:01that he has been in three finals and still has not won a rank new event,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01there is something lacking there. He has got all the ability in the world

3:22:02 > 3:22:01and he has time on his side. Is he consistent enough? Not really. He

3:22:02 > 3:22:01has matches where he goes into his shell and does not go on the attack.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01But at his best, his break building is up there with the best.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Sometimes, he does not feel as though he gives it 100 ascent. I

3:22:02 > 3:22:01have seen him play matches where you though he gives it 100 ascent. I

3:22:02 > 3:22:01would fancy him beating anyone in the world. And yet in other matches,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01would fancy him beating anyone in he is liable to lose to anyone.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Until he puts that right and focuses his mind, he will always be in and

3:22:02 > 3:22:01out of the top echelon of the game. So, it is worth against Scotland. We

3:22:02 > 3:22:01are going to join them in the first frame of a possible 19. Terry

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Griffith and Willie Thorne are in the hot service. -- hot seats.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Ryan Day breaking off. They will both be nervous. Stephen Maguire has

3:22:02 > 3:22:01been struggling over the last few tournaments with a very bad back.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Allegedly, it is feeling better now. This is looking to be an open game,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Terry. They are both attacking players. Stephen Maguire has just

3:22:02 > 3:22:01found out that the table is running very quickly. Yes, they both like to

3:22:02 > 3:22:01go for their shots. They opened the reds out pretty early.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01He has always been an aggressive break builder.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01They go for the throat and try and win the frame in one visit.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Michaela Tabb is a very good referee.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Neck and back problems come with this profession, I'm afraid. But

3:22:02 > 3:22:01he's telling me now he is fully fit again.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01What a shot. Shot of the tournament so far, Terry. And we are very early

3:22:02 > 3:22:01in the tournament, of course. That was another very aggressive

3:22:02 > 3:22:01shot. Surely the pink is not available in

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the middle. He is holding his hand up to say it is. That is amazing.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01You could see his facial expression change when he thought he had lost

3:22:02 > 3:22:01vision, and then he smiled and apologised to his opponent for being

3:22:02 > 3:22:01on the pink in the middle. Stephen Maguire spent most of his

3:22:02 > 3:22:01early playing career to sing with Stephen Hendry -- practising with

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Stephen Hendry. He learned from the top man.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Stephen Hendry was looking for one opportunity all the time, of course.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01This is good stuff from Stephen Maguire, just the start he was

3:22:02 > 3:22:01looking for. Taking your practice form onto the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01match table. The Black will put the frame beyond

3:22:02 > 3:22:01any reasonable doubt. Then he can concentrate on making another

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Crucible century. Another great break from Stephen

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Maguire. HAZEL IRVINE: in the second frame,

3:22:02 > 3:22:01it was Ryan Day, a former top ten player, who matched him and indeed

3:22:02 > 3:22:01bettered him. He made it one - one. Maguire took the next go to one up.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01And we are heading into the last frame for before the interval.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Can he popped that green? Looks like it.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01Not the best positional shot, because he needs the other red.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01How good is he at that? He hit that so good, I can't argue.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01I don't know how he managed to get that angle to come inside the red.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01But this is a tricky one. He tried to play it as a shock to

3:22:02 > 3:22:01nothing. -- shot to nothing. He did not want that kiss on the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01green. You would expect Ryan to make that

3:22:02 > 3:22:01shot eight or nine times out of ten in normal circumstances.

3:22:02 > 3:22:01We have had some high-quality break building. Time for the mid-session

3:22:02 > 3:22:01interval. It is two frames each. HAZEL IRVINE: and the Welshman took

3:22:02 > 3:22:01the next after the interval as well for a 3-2 lead. We will have to look

3:22:02 > 3:22:01lively here, because we are heading for another channel change. We are

3:22:02 > 3:22:01back on BBC Two in a matter of moments, with live coverage of the

3:22:02 > 3:22:01other match. There is a lot going on. Catch you in a few short

3:22:02 > 3:22:02seconds.
