:00:35. > :00:41.Good evening and welcome to the 2014 World Snooker Championship. We have

:00:42. > :00:47.had a dramatic day and there is more drama to come this evening. It could

:00:48. > :00:51.have been one of the great World Championship shocks, but Ronnie

:00:52. > :00:52.O'Sullivan used his class and experience to book his place in the

:00:53. > :01:08.last eight. That is the start he would have been

:01:09. > :01:18.looking for. Joe Perry only leads by one.

:01:19. > :01:25.He has missed the black. Just the pink needed. A big frame

:01:26. > :01:34.for Joe Perry. What was that?

:01:35. > :01:41.Joe Perry has retained his overnight lead.

:01:42. > :01:46.When he starts potting the long ones, he is pretty hard work to play

:01:47. > :01:57.against. Just about went in.

:01:58. > :02:06.He is back level, 11 frames each. Cute it beautifully.

:02:07. > :02:21." as the black for a marvellous break of 124. -- in goes.

:02:22. > :02:27.In it goes. Magnificent. The Rocket was superb

:02:28. > :02:33.and you can see what it meant to him.

:02:34. > :02:45.It is the closest match I have had an two years. I did not think I had

:02:46. > :02:50.it in me. To come from behind the whole match, and every time I got

:02:51. > :03:00.near he kept pulling away, but I just found something from somewhere

:03:01. > :03:06.and I kept telling myself, you have done this before, maybe that is the

:03:07. > :03:11.difference, experience. Whatever would have happened I said to myself

:03:12. > :03:16.I have showed fighting qualities, so that is something I was proud of. I

:03:17. > :03:22.would not have won another world title if it was not for Steve Peters

:03:23. > :03:28.because I had the talent, but I was not able to channel it. Steve has

:03:29. > :03:34.helped me to clear my mind and go and play and focus. Everything I

:03:35. > :03:41.have to thank Steve for because I would not have been here in 2012 if

:03:42. > :03:47.it were not for him. I my life to him because up until then I had won

:03:48. > :03:54.tournament but never really played how I wanted to play. It is good to

:03:55. > :03:59.show people what you are capable of. It was nice for the fans to see a

:04:00. > :04:03.little bit of emotion from you. We do not often get that in the early

:04:04. > :04:09.rounds. I thought I was out. I thought it was over. I thought, I

:04:10. > :04:16.have played a good first match. I had no regrets. To get through was a

:04:17. > :04:20.relief. It felt more emotional than winning the final because I had to

:04:21. > :04:29.come from behind. I was really proud I was able to stick in there. I let

:04:30. > :04:36.it all out because it meant so much to me. I cannot believe it. The

:04:37. > :04:43.crowd loved it. I am sure Steve Davis love that. He was behind for

:04:44. > :04:56.most of the match and if there is any doubt about that Mike there was

:04:57. > :04:59.any doubt about that man -- if there was any doubt about him under

:05:00. > :05:07.pressure, it is dispelled by that. He is so strong. His tactical play,

:05:08. > :05:14.his safety play, and his mental strength. That looks top-notch. Why

:05:15. > :05:17.did Joe Perry not win? Because of Ronnie O'Sullivan. I think he would

:05:18. > :05:27.have beaten any other player. He played one loose shot at 11-10, but

:05:28. > :05:33.it was a phenomenal performance. He said he ran into a genius. I think

:05:34. > :05:41.that is fair. He played so well. He took the game to Ronnie. Me it all

:05:42. > :05:46.about Ronnie. Given the test Ronnie has had, is he going to win? There

:05:47. > :05:53.are only a couple of players who can push them, Neil Robertson and Judd

:05:54. > :05:58.Trump. The man that Ronnie O'Sullivan beat last year has been

:05:59. > :06:07.involved with the tussle with Ricky Walden. Hopkins played very well to

:06:08. > :06:17.discredit at 11-Alison. He needed just one more to book a place.

:06:18. > :06:33.I thought he had got that. There may be a chance.

:06:34. > :07:01.The black is available. I thought that was in. How costly. He is stuck

:07:02. > :07:18.behind the red. Playing in your club, you get known

:07:19. > :07:28.to the pink, but it is not your club, it is the Crucible.

:07:29. > :07:32.They have the whole Crucible to themselves, which always helps, no

:07:33. > :07:44.distractions from the other table. He had a quick glance at the pink

:07:45. > :07:55.and has thought better of it. He knows it is not the shot for this

:07:56. > :08:54.stage in the match. We know what is coming. He wants to

:08:55. > :08:55.roll up to the yellow. That is great to see Ricky Walden reacting to the

:08:56. > :09:04.crowd. He is not going to risk rolling up

:09:05. > :09:27.to the yellow. He has not got it tight on the

:09:28. > :09:41.cushion. At least he has retained his sense

:09:42. > :09:58.of humour. It is always a good way to relieve a

:09:59. > :10:06.bit of pressure, having a laugh. You sense he has to bully his way back

:10:07. > :10:11.into this game. Barry Hawkins has really had a firm grip today. He is

:10:12. > :10:41.looking at this red into the corner. If Ricky had left the white on the

:10:42. > :10:51.cushion, it would not have been available to them. -- him. He is not

:10:52. > :11:01.laughing about that one. Silky smooth cueing.

:11:02. > :11:14.Can he capitalise on that fantastic opening red?

:11:15. > :11:25.How long will Ricky be sitting in that seat? Can Barry Hawkins hold

:11:26. > :11:37.himself together here, cause he has an excellent chance?

:11:38. > :11:44.It was so good, that opening pot. It deserves to win any frame. If he

:11:45. > :12:10.wins this frame, he wins the match. It set up a beautiful opportunity to

:12:11. > :12:13.clinch frame and match. That is not bad. Ricky is one of the best long

:12:14. > :12:28.potters in the business. His overall pot success was 93%

:12:29. > :12:32.yesterday Ricky Walden, so that shows you how he has rubble today --

:12:33. > :12:54.struggled today. We said is a frame-winning chance,

:12:55. > :12:58.but at this is age we know what can happen in the Crucible. -- this

:12:59. > :13:16.stage. The adrenaline will be pumping. That

:13:17. > :13:20.can cause moments like that. He thought he was going to land on top

:13:21. > :13:27.of the pink and he would have been out of position. He believed a sigh

:13:28. > :13:38.of relief as it came across the table.

:13:39. > :13:50.He is doing the right thing. He is not rushing into it.

:13:51. > :14:07.So being the situation. -- looking at.

:14:08. > :14:26.That is not ideal. He is stuck on the reds. Is he dead straight on

:14:27. > :14:35.this one? That is an awkward shot. He does not have much to do with the

:14:36. > :14:55.white to leave the pink on. That is all he needed.

:14:56. > :15:07.They are all there for him. He does not need to be concerned about those

:15:08. > :15:16.tricky reds on the cushion. He can pick them off one by one.

:15:17. > :15:28.Ricky will sense that he hit that too heart. That was just adrenaline.

:15:29. > :15:49.He can still pot the black. He hit it too hard. He could

:15:50. > :16:06.possibly cannon the red to the left of the pain. -- pink. He has made

:16:07. > :16:14.sure of the pot. He needed a cannon to stop the white running away up

:16:15. > :16:19.the table and he played beautifully. That is a match-winner. He left

:16:20. > :16:40.himself law and rescued it superbly. Already Waldon can do is sit and

:16:41. > :16:48.stare and hope for an error. Last year Ricky led 12-8 and he let that

:16:49. > :16:59.slip. He had the four frame advantage here and he let that slip.

:17:00. > :17:11.They have played each other nine times. Ricky Walden has won five of

:17:12. > :17:25.them. It is looking good for Barry Hawkins.

:17:26. > :17:41.Ricky knows the writing is very nearly on the Crucible wall. Banning

:17:42. > :17:48.a twitch from Barry Hawkins. He has won two ranking tournament is,

:17:49. > :17:58.Ricky. He had a great chance last year to get to the final, but it was

:17:59. > :18:01.Barry Hawkins who blocked his path. He knows that Barry is just a couple

:18:02. > :18:05.more pots away from winning this second round tussle to get into the

:18:06. > :18:24.quarterfinal. He is going to do it in style by the

:18:25. > :18:46.looks of things. He judged that nicely. Just the blue needed to

:18:47. > :18:50.leave Ricky needing a snooker. It has been an excellent performance

:18:51. > :18:52.from Barry Hawkins who has taken full advantage of Ricky Walden's

:18:53. > :19:05.slips. Save for the unexpected it will be

:19:06. > :19:15.another quarterfinal for Barry Hawkins.

:19:16. > :19:28.He decides on the safety shot. Save for a snooker, Barry Hawkins, he

:19:29. > :19:34.should not be disappointed, he is in the quarterfinal. We knew this would

:19:35. > :19:40.be one of the outstanding ties of the second round. Ricky made two

:19:41. > :19:44.century breaks in this match, but not enough to see off the man from

:19:45. > :19:51.Kent and Barry Hawkins moves into the quarterfinals, playing again on

:19:52. > :19:56.Tuesday, so he has a couple of days to recover after a pretty tough

:19:57. > :20:01.match. Ricky will be very disappointed.

:20:02. > :20:09.We seemed to bring the worst out in each other, it was such a tough game

:20:10. > :20:12.from start to finish and it is a hard place when you feel like you

:20:13. > :20:19.are not cueing well and not scoring the breaks you would like. It can be

:20:20. > :20:26.really tough. Sheer determination got me through. It was a tough one.

:20:27. > :20:33.That is snooker. If you do not take your chances and you were playing

:20:34. > :20:40.against a top player, he is a top player and he punished me. I am

:20:41. > :20:45.knackered. I do not want any more grinding matches like that one. I am

:20:46. > :20:51.still here and if you are in it you can win it. I knew that Ricky Walden

:20:52. > :20:59.would see he was disappointed. I remember he said he felt he should

:21:00. > :21:03.have beaten badly last year. It is very hard not to be down in a

:21:04. > :21:09.situation like that. You have to go back and start yourself in the

:21:10. > :21:16.mirror and ask the question, am I capable at top-class level in the

:21:17. > :21:24.Crucible Theatre? Have I felt? -- failed. By next season, or two weeks

:21:25. > :21:32.later, he will have dragged himself off the floor, but it is not nice

:21:33. > :21:35.when you have thrown away big leads. We saw Ronnie O'Sullivan being

:21:36. > :21:41.pushed all the way by Joe Perry. To what extent does it help Barry

:21:42. > :21:49.Hawkins that he was pushed all the way? It could work two ways. You

:21:50. > :21:53.could be mentally exhausted. He is coming under the radar. We know he

:21:54. > :21:58.has the pedigree to bore all the way to the final. The good thing about

:21:59. > :22:06.going behind is that it is not so much of a shock of it happens again

:22:07. > :22:12.-- to go all the way. We have seen two very experienced players turn it

:22:13. > :22:22.on when it matters in the third session. Ronnie's was probably more

:22:23. > :22:27.impressive than Barry's. Never take away a performance from a player,

:22:28. > :22:35.even if it is scrappy, if a player transit around from a deficit. He

:22:36. > :22:42.got it done. He did it in style in the end. Do you fancy Barry Hawkins

:22:43. > :22:49.to make the final again? It is tough. You do not know how the

:22:50. > :22:57.second week unable is. There are other players vying for position.

:22:58. > :22:57.Barry Hawkins was 12 years old when these two started playing each

:22:58. > :23:40.other. The music there was supplied by

:23:41. > :23:59.Steve Davis! We are going to join the commentary

:24:00. > :24:06.team. These are live pictures. Good evening to John Virgo and Stephen

:24:07. > :24:11.Hendry. Good evening. You have joined us at

:24:12. > :24:21.the perfect moment, the chance for Ken Doherty to get the first frame

:24:22. > :24:23.of this evening's session. The right-hand red of those three will

:24:24. > :24:41.go to the right corner. These three reds with colours would

:24:42. > :24:48.be more than enough. Alan McManus left himself short on the pink. It

:24:49. > :25:06.came off square and he missed it. He was very disappointed because

:25:07. > :25:08.that was a frame-winning chance. I think the cue ball has just about

:25:09. > :25:27.stopped in time. Just over six hours of the 15 frames

:25:28. > :25:47.that have been played. He always knew he had the green over

:25:48. > :25:58.the pocket. It looks as if that is what he is going to have to play.

:25:59. > :26:10.He needs the green, red and the pink.

:26:11. > :26:26.He needs at least the blue of this red. Or a brown.

:26:27. > :26:41.Is he going to be on the brown? The yellow has covered it.

:26:42. > :27:07.He was not bothered about position. It does not necessarily mean it is

:27:08. > :27:08.end of frame because Alan McManus knows his way around a snooker

:27:09. > :27:23.table. He is starting to play. Favourite to

:27:24. > :28:21.win this one. If Alan wanted to pot this red, if

:28:22. > :28:35.he potted the pink he would still only need one snooker.

:28:36. > :28:46.Here is a chance for Ken to clinch the frame.

:28:47. > :29:00.If he knocks it in, I am certain Alan McManus will concede.

:29:01. > :29:16.In it goes. He trailed that 1.510-3 and he has one -- he trailed by ten

:29:17. > :29:33.at -3. The darling of Dublin is getting closer. Still trailed by

:29:34. > :29:45.four frames. -- trails. Dominic Dale is taking on Michael was like --

:29:46. > :29:50.Wasley. Dominic Dale has got off to a terrific start. You have to go

:29:51. > :29:57.back to 2004 Dominic's last appearance in the quarterfinals

:29:58. > :30:11.where he lost. He has only won 12 matches here. He has got off to a

:30:12. > :30:15.very good start. Good start from the Welshman, the match we are

:30:16. > :30:20.concentrating on right now, by the way if you want Dominic Dale and

:30:21. > :30:26.Michael Wasley, it is available on the BBC's website, but we are

:30:27. > :30:31.concentrating right now BBC Two until 8pm, it is Ken Doherty, our

:30:32. > :30:35.colic, still in the World Championships, making a fight of it.

:30:36. > :30:58.-- or BBC colleague. This mini comeback from Ken

:30:59. > :31:01.Doherty, maybe he has come as a little bit of a surprise to Alan

:31:02. > :31:12.because he was struggling a bit at the start of this match. He was

:31:13. > :31:20.completely out of sorts. But somehow, he has managed to find a

:31:21. > :31:31.clearance to make it 10-4, and then to make it 10-5. And now, he is

:31:32. > :31:39.making it 10-6, so... Alan McManus might be beginning to feel a bit

:31:40. > :31:44.twitchy. A very aggressive safety shot from Kent, but unfortunately, I

:31:45. > :32:15.do not think he can get to the one in the right corner. -- from Ken.

:32:16. > :32:27.The problem is, it is only the Pinkey Carr and -- it is only the

:32:28. > :32:36.pink that he can see. Obviously, he can see the black, but he could not

:32:37. > :32:38.get safe from that. He can just get to the yellow but he needs to cover

:32:39. > :32:56.this red. He has missed the yellow. REFEREE:

:32:57. > :33:03.Foul and a miss. Can Ken Doherty play the drag shot here? It has a

:33:04. > :33:13.tendency to go the other way slightly. Can he hold for the black?

:33:14. > :33:34.He has controlled its nicely. -- it nicely.

:33:35. > :33:40.This is a great chance, that aggressive safety shot that Ken

:33:41. > :33:46.Doherty played before, opening up the reds, but a bit risky. It could

:33:47. > :33:51.prove to be a very good shot in this frame. He's starting to look a bit

:33:52. > :34:25.more composed. You can only assume the red he was

:34:26. > :34:36.going to play was the one he wanted to cannon. He's not perfect. I say

:34:37. > :34:40.the red he is going to play, because think it goes to this corner,

:34:41. > :34:45.because if he had kissed it, it would have been easier. It should

:34:46. > :34:50.not be too much of a problem, but he has just got to be sure of the line

:34:51. > :35:06.of the cue ball fur position on the black. -- for position on the black.

:35:07. > :35:16.Unbelievable. That is amazing. Concentrating that much on the

:35:17. > :35:34.position. He looks like he is hitting the red

:35:35. > :35:37.to the right centre. I think I would favour the one on the black cushion

:35:38. > :36:06.myself, but this is what he was confident on.

:36:07. > :36:34.It is probably the pace that kept it out.

:36:35. > :36:41.This wasn't that difficult. He didn't have to do a lot with the cue

:36:42. > :36:47.ball. This is a good chance gone. Now, Alan McManus can make pay for

:36:48. > :36:57.that mistake. Their are some long pots arm. He was

:36:58. > :38:23.looking at some of them. Ken Doherty, in a spot of bother

:38:24. > :38:47.here. Where is this red going? Where is it

:38:48. > :38:57.going? He may not have it passed to it, but it certainly makes it a big

:38:58. > :39:02.pocket. He can claim this red with a bit more confidence, if he is just a

:39:03. > :39:06.little bit narrow on the left-hand side, it will go off the other red

:39:07. > :39:10.and he should be able to go on the black. Needs to fully commit to

:39:11. > :39:21.this. Would not expect him to miss this. Just do it.

:39:22. > :39:28.There was no need to hit it that hard, I would have played that with

:39:29. > :39:36.so much confidence, because of the chance of being on the black. The

:39:37. > :39:39.red to the left of the table is probably easier, it has a bigger

:39:40. > :39:41.pocket, it is closer to the question. Can he get nicely on the

:39:42. > :40:00.black? Surely, he cannot keep passing of

:40:01. > :40:11.these chances. -- passing up. It needs to score 2030 points to get

:40:12. > :40:12.his rhythm back. 20, 30 point, he needs to score, to get his rhythm

:40:13. > :40:45.back. Chances galore. He's not playing

:40:46. > :41:19.like a player with a 10-6 lead. There was just no action in that cue

:41:20. > :41:27.ball at all after he had hit it. He had to stun over to the black at the

:41:28. > :41:33.same pocket. Looking at it again, I do not know why he did not use the

:41:34. > :41:35.top cushion. Any where near the back of the black. So, the black is tied

:41:36. > :42:22.up. Ken Doherty has a 12 point lead. This could be telling shot if it's

:42:23. > :42:30.travelled a few inches. Just a little bit short of pace. Will not

:42:31. > :42:39.be too much of a problem for Ken Doherty. Once again, he has played

:42:40. > :42:41.safe and left a ball over the corner. Is it covered? Looking at

:42:42. > :43:15.the body language, no. The cue ball could not have finished

:43:16. > :43:20.in a much worse situation than that. OK, he can pot the blue, but no

:43:21. > :43:31.control of the cue ball being so close to the side cushion.

:43:32. > :43:35.Being so close to the side cushion, you could not really affect the line

:43:36. > :44:25.of the white. Just playing safe. That was a bit too thin, but this

:44:26. > :44:38.green could come to his rescue. A hand up to Ken to apologise.

:44:39. > :44:44.You see the look on his face when that cue ball rolled up to the

:44:45. > :44:51.green, he was disgusted with that, but to be fair, he has had more than

:44:52. > :45:16.enough chances to win the frame, and Snooker can be unfair.

:45:17. > :45:22.That is it possible. He would have to get the length absolutely

:45:23. > :45:27.perfect. The line might not be right, that is just a guide. But I

:45:28. > :45:50.cannot see much else. Hit and hope! Where is the cue ball

:45:51. > :46:01.going? I do not think he can pot that. Unmolested plays off the top

:46:02. > :46:12.cushion. -- unless it plays off the top cushion. Always try to get it

:46:13. > :46:15.off two cushion to a new play. Just get the side cushion just before the

:46:16. > :46:23.red. Played gently, could be on the blue.

:46:24. > :47:03.He was looking to see as the pink was available, it is not. He needs

:47:04. > :47:07.to concentrate on blue and baulk colours to win this frame. Just

:47:08. > :47:53.about has an angle on the blue, only just.

:47:54. > :48:05.This pink would put him 34 point front.

:48:06. > :48:33.Always look to be on the right-hand jaw has been luckier.

:48:34. > :48:36.Disappointment. Shock. If he goes on to lose this match, he would be

:48:37. > :48:50.disappointed more with the chances he had.

:48:51. > :49:09.I am not sure what Alan is looking at. These are unforgivable.

:49:10. > :49:22.He's intimating that it rolled off, but it did not roll off at that

:49:23. > :49:26.pace, John. Done a few matches on this table, I have not seen them

:49:27. > :49:29.roll off. And at this pace, highly unlikely, but surely, Ken Doherty

:49:30. > :50:12.would make the most of this chance. Red, colour, red, that would be

:50:13. > :50:38.enough. So, 49 point head, 51 remaining, pot

:50:39. > :50:43.this red, go 50 in front with only 43 left.

:50:44. > :50:52.So, the frame looks to be safe for Ken Doherty.

:50:53. > :51:24.This is a friend that Alan McManus will want to forget. -- A-frame.

:51:25. > :51:32.The pink really didn't matter. Ken Doherty has won this frame. Alan

:51:33. > :51:38.McManus coming to the table, believe me, not thinking about winning

:51:39. > :51:43.this, just once some practice. He wants to get his cue arm going. I

:51:44. > :51:47.cannot blame him. He had so many chances in this frame, he missed

:51:48. > :51:52.some balls that were unbelievable, so why not take this opportunity to

:51:53. > :51:58.pass a few? There is no law against it. And as I say, not thinking about

:51:59. > :52:42.winning the frame... Just getting some table time.

:52:43. > :52:49.He will be disappointed, he put his hand up, he says to Ken Doherty, if

:52:50. > :52:53.that is a gay with you, I will concede. And Ken Doherty would be

:52:54. > :52:59.grateful for that. -- if that is OK with you. Ken Doherty, he does not

:53:00. > :53:10.want to go back to this TV studio! That was the most shocking Snooker

:53:11. > :53:15.some of those lads have played for a while, some of those individual

:53:16. > :53:21.shots, they will be disappointed with them. There is a lot of tension

:53:22. > :53:24.out there. Alan McManus, he has effectively stalled. He needs to

:53:25. > :53:28.start the engines, otherwise Ken Doherty will get stronger, even

:53:29. > :53:33.though he is not performing well himself. If Alan McManus doesn't get

:53:34. > :53:39.going again soon, it could be all level, and Alan McManus was 10-3 in

:53:40. > :53:44.front. A big collapse as we speak, especially as the other guy has not

:53:45. > :53:49.played well to back into the match. We have been treated to some

:53:50. > :53:55.fantastic snooker today, but this, how should we describe it? They

:53:56. > :53:58.would describe it as a dire frame of snooker, from the high standards

:53:59. > :54:03.they produced, they are not doing very well at all. Ken Doherty looks

:54:04. > :54:08.very jerky on the shot, Alan McManus is all over the place. For example

:54:09. > :54:14.reasons, it is just as fascinating to see which one can recover

:54:15. > :54:19.composure. Barry Hawkins was 12 years old when these guys started

:54:20. > :54:26.playing, and Michael Wasley, he was just one-year-old from these two

:54:27. > :54:29.started playing in 1991. They will probably say he could've played

:54:30. > :54:33.better the age of one than they played in the last frame! Harsh

:54:34. > :54:47.words! Back to John and Stephen! He cannot truly argue with what

:54:48. > :54:49.Stephen said. You would be lucky to get those many chances in a match

:54:50. > :55:02.normally. It could affect Alan McManus,

:55:03. > :55:06.because even at the end when he was clearing up and try to get some

:55:07. > :55:10.table time, he missed an easy blue. At the moment, there is just

:55:11. > :55:16.something wrong, not finding the middle of the cue ball. And if you

:55:17. > :55:23.just have a look at some of their misses, OK, playing with pace, that

:55:24. > :55:35.wasn't too difficult. And this one, well, that was amazing.

:55:36. > :55:44.And other aggressive safety shot from Ken Doherty. -- another. He is

:55:45. > :55:45.prepared to make it an open game, not get involved in the tactical

:55:46. > :56:57.battle. That was better, but has not really

:56:58. > :57:06.played with a great deal of confidence, that is why the cue ball

:57:07. > :57:08.has finished near the baulk cushion. He would love to block off the path

:57:09. > :57:17.to the left side of the table. He just made sure of the snooker,

:57:18. > :58:04.which is understandable. With Alan McManus 10-7 friends in

:58:05. > :58:08.front, this is where we leave you on BBC Two, but you can watch this

:58:09. > :58:15.match on the red button and if you want to see how the tie between

:58:16. > :58:21.Michael Dale and at his opponent is going, then that is available. We

:58:22. > :58:25.will have the full round-up of the 2014 Dafabet World Championship and

:58:26. > :58:30.all of the drum here at the Crucible at 11:30pm this evening on BBC Two.

:58:31. > :59:07.Join us here for the highlights, goodbye.
