:01:36. > :01:43.Sparks will fly in the Crucible tonight. Snooker's Mark Selby is
:01:44. > :01:49.aiming to etch his name on to the trophy for a second time. But Ding
:01:50. > :01:57.Junhui still has a cast iron chance to become Asia's first ever world
:01:58. > :02:02.champion. After an announcement that a deal has been forged to keep the
:02:03. > :02:13.Championship in this great city for the next eleven years until 2027.
:02:14. > :02:18.That will mark 50 years of drama and my don't they love that. The next
:02:19. > :02:29.exciting installment of the drama starts now. Finals day at the
:02:30. > :02:35.Crucible. The atmosphere electric. Nothing edgy about Ding Junhui. A
:02:36. > :02:51.magnificent break gets him to within two. He has won that long tactical
:02:52. > :02:56.frame on the black. That is century No 84. I said he could do with
:02:57. > :03:07.finding another gear after losing the first two frames. That is
:03:08. > :03:15.exactly what he has done. Superb play from Ding Junhui. We go to the
:03:16. > :03:35.mid session interval 11-10 to Mark Selby.
:03:36. > :03:46.Wonderful shot. It is a great shot. Tremendous shot. At the start of the
:03:47. > :03:52.third session it was Ding Junhui who trailed, so the object of the
:03:53. > :03:56.exercise was to win the first mini-session. Mark Selby like the
:03:57. > :04:00.true champion he is and by the end of the session they had shared the
:04:01. > :04:06.eight frames. So the question is coming into tonight, can anybody
:04:07. > :04:17.give the world No 1 a three frame start? Ladies and gentlemen please
:04:18. > :04:58.welcome China's national hero, Ding Junhui!
:04:59. > :05:32.Here comes Leicester's world No 1 - Mark Selby!
:05:33. > :05:39.A possible ten more frames to be played tonight on what is always one
:05:40. > :05:50.of the great occasions in sport. So settle back and soak it all in with
:05:51. > :05:54.Ken Docherty and John Virgo. Well the way, well the reception Ding
:05:55. > :06:00.Junhui got, I think Sheffield has an adopted son here. Absolutely. Great
:06:01. > :06:04.reception for Ding and for Mark Selby and what a wonderful
:06:05. > :06:09.atmosphere. There is nothing quite like coming down those stairs for
:06:10. > :06:19.the last session of the World Championship. What a buzz for both
:06:20. > :06:28.players. Thank you the 26th frame, Mark Selby to break.
:06:29. > :06:39.Mark Selby gets this final session under way. Goes without saying that
:06:40. > :06:42.Ding Junhui needs a good start. UMPIRE: Cameras and phones away
:06:43. > :06:49.please. The difference now the end is in sight. When you play these
:06:50. > :06:54.long session matches, we have already had three sessions.
:06:55. > :07:01.It is hard to see the wing line, sometimes trying to keep your
:07:02. > :07:07.opponent at bay. For now every shot will count and the first mistake,
:07:08. > :07:17.long pot missed, left a chance for Mark Selby. Yes. There is the
:07:18. > :07:31.attempt again on the long red. Normally very good at that
:07:32. > :07:36.particular shot. Left an easy opener for Mark Selby. Can he finish off
:07:37. > :07:42.the last session in great style? Particularly when it was put up to
:07:43. > :07:43.him. Every time Ding has asked a question, Mark Selby somehow found
:07:44. > :07:51.the answer. A couple of times he has got within
:07:52. > :07:56.one frame and you think is he going to level it. Mark has come out and
:07:57. > :08:03.finished perfect on this red. Cannoned the red next to the black.
:08:04. > :08:07.And potting this black plays for the red he has just cannoned into the
:08:08. > :08:25.right corner. Black will be available into both pockets.
:08:26. > :08:31.He would have liked to be a bit straighter on this red. Just had a
:08:32. > :08:36.quick look at the pink into the left centre.
:08:37. > :08:58.Still a couple of loose reds after his next colour.
:08:59. > :09:04.Pink won't spot so it goes directly, well obviously the yellow spot is
:09:05. > :09:31.available. So that is OK. I'm not quite sure if he'll go into
:09:32. > :09:35.the pack or not here. He's got a couple of loose reds. It will be
:09:36. > :09:41.interesting to see what he'll do here. It's what our colleague Willie
:09:42. > :09:46.Thorn calls the flat-backpack, so maybe choose to go into them off the
:09:47. > :09:50.blue. Might not be a bad idea here on this red into the left corner
:09:51. > :09:54.pocket, go for the blue and play the canon. Always have the option of
:09:55. > :09:59.that red to the right middle. 70 points to the target to get to
:10:00. > :10:12.snookers required, so still a way to go.
:10:13. > :10:26.He's looking down the line of trying to go into the pack but he could
:10:27. > :10:31.have done with the cue ball being a couple of inches towards the line.
:10:32. > :10:37.It's not a great angle on the blue, have to force it in. Well, didn't
:10:38. > :10:45.have the angle at all and just lost the cue ball slightly.
:10:46. > :10:50.Potting this red into the right centre, must get a good angle on the
:10:51. > :11:09.blue. Looks a lot better. Got the perfect
:11:10. > :11:14.angle on the blue but this time he doesn't have a perfect shot on the
:11:15. > :11:21.red if this break on the reds doesn't work, but he's played it
:11:22. > :11:24.lovely, controlled. APPLAUSE
:11:25. > :11:30.The only thing is it's got to be over the right corner, but he's
:11:31. > :11:35.going to be slightly hampered. If it's on that true angle, fine. If he
:11:36. > :11:53.has to do a little bit with the cue ball, could be a problem.
:11:54. > :12:04.He's got a nice angle on the black. He can go into the reds and the
:12:05. > :12:07.loose red together. Still half of the red just above the black. He
:12:08. > :12:12.just played into the loose red on its own, didn't take the chance, but
:12:13. > :12:19.he's still in prime position. He's just having a look at the red that's
:12:20. > :12:29.closest to the pink spot, the same with that pot as well - I think it
:12:30. > :12:34.does. If he could get three reds, three blacks, wouldn't have to get
:12:35. > :12:41.any canons and he's got a couple of loose reds to play for.
:12:42. > :12:53.Misjudged that. 57. I think he's still on the red to the right
:12:54. > :13:09.middle, but it's not exactly how he played it.
:13:10. > :13:15.Well, can he not get through? I'm sure he can get through to the one
:13:16. > :13:24.that's closest to the right centre pocket. The fact that it's touching
:13:25. > :13:27.the ball, John, if that red moves, just the one it's touching, of
:13:28. > :13:33.course that would be a push shot, so he's got to be careful here, and the
:13:34. > :13:37.referee has got to have his eyes peeled - now... Would you believe
:13:38. > :13:41.it? APPLAUSE Can't believe he wasn't on
:13:42. > :13:50.that red. Too thick, so he just couldn't hit
:13:51. > :14:10.enough of it. Oh, that was risky. That was too
:14:11. > :14:15.risky, surely. He's gifted the frame now, surely, to Mark Selby. Well,
:14:16. > :14:19.that was a bit of a nervy one from Ding Junhui, and just the way he
:14:20. > :14:29.played it, didn't expect the cue ball to be this side of the blue.
:14:30. > :14:37.That's the only black he can - he's having a look at whether to risk the
:14:38. > :14:46.canon into the four reds. This black will go in 64 - sorry 65 points in
:14:47. > :14:49.front with 75 remaining, so this red and a colour will get him past the
:14:50. > :15:05.winning line in this frame. He's chose the blue which will put
:15:06. > :15:21.him 71 points in front with just 67 remaining.
:15:22. > :15:32.Played it beautifully, nicely controlled. Didn't have to play it
:15:33. > :15:34.with any pace, just catch that red full ball and good start for Mark
:15:35. > :16:28.Selby. Now we just caught a glimpse of
:16:29. > :16:36.tournament total points, and Mark Selby has just gone three points in
:16:37. > :16:39.front, amazing, isn't it? But, more importantly, he's now going to have
:16:40. > :16:51.a four-frame advantage. If he didn't win the frame in one
:16:52. > :16:58.visit and he gave Ding Junhui half a chance, but as Ken said, he played
:16:59. > :17:04.it very nervily. Red didn't go in, but Mark Selby -
:17:05. > :17:09.APPLAUSE. Rather get the ball set up for the next frame. He's now four
:17:10. > :17:15.clear. More importantly, just three frames away from his second world
:17:16. > :17:18.title. Well, two world champions in here know exactly what it takes to
:17:19. > :17:22.get over the line. For you, Steve and John, is this the decisive move
:17:23. > :17:26.that we have just seen here tonight? I think the decisive move from Ding
:17:27. > :17:29.Junhui has got to be very quick if it's going to happen, because I
:17:30. > :17:32.don't think he can - he hasn't got much breathing space.
:17:33. > :17:38.Three frames out from Mark Selby, you know how clever he is at winning
:17:39. > :17:44.frames and stealing them so I think Ding Junhui has to get a move on
:17:45. > :17:48.quickly. For those just joining us, to catch this final instalment of
:17:49. > :17:51.the drama, remind everyone what kind of fight and character Ding Junhui
:17:52. > :17:55.has shown throughout the match? All the way through. I thought the match
:17:56. > :17:59.with Judd Trump was awkward for him and every time he's had a question,
:18:00. > :18:04.he's had the answer. This match he was stuck in. He was 6-0 behind.
:18:05. > :18:09.Very easy to throw the toys out of the pram. He kept going. He stuck
:18:10. > :18:13.in. Unfortunately at the moment he looks like he's starting to weaken.
:18:14. > :18:18.I wouldn't blame him if he did because he's had a very searching
:18:19. > :18:21.examination in this match. Sum up the iron Will, the determination,
:18:22. > :18:25.the grip that Mark Selby can achieve in matches. The thing about him is
:18:26. > :18:28.he's such a fantastic all-around player but every time he has been
:18:29. > :18:33.asked a question in this final and throughout the tournament he has
:18:34. > :18:36.produced astonishing stuff and has raised his game. You can't do better
:18:37. > :18:39.than that. All of a sudden you're asked the biggest questions and you
:18:40. > :18:47.actually improve your standard. I mean, that is a great champion. Is
:18:48. > :18:49.there a fight-back to come? Well, if there is a fight-back to come, it's
:18:50. > :19:01.got to start very soon, John. He has fought back tremendously well
:19:02. > :19:06.already in this final, 6-0 down, looking like it was going to go 7 at
:19:07. > :19:09.one stage. He's shown tremendous character so far but he's going to
:19:10. > :19:13.have to dig deep now if he's going to have a chance of lifting that
:19:14. > :19:19.beautiful trophy tonight. Yes, there it is, 1997. That was in
:19:20. > :19:40.your hands, Ken. Uh-huh. Oh, that was a touch too thick, but
:19:41. > :19:44.there may be - the end red may come, but I don't think he can play it
:19:45. > :19:49.because if he did he may run into the top cushion. He's going to play
:19:50. > :19:53.a safety shot. He's played some good safeties, Ding Junhui, but that
:19:54. > :19:59.first frame, he looked very nervous, and he's just got to shake the
:20:00. > :20:02.shackles off here and just concentrate because he's no -
:20:03. > :20:06.there's no backward steps here. He's got to play well if he's going to
:20:07. > :20:08.get anything out of this match. Excellent safety, though. Well
:20:09. > :20:12.played. APPLAUSE.
:20:13. > :20:20.Of course, he's going to feel a little bit of nerves. The safety has
:20:21. > :20:24.been good. Safety success in the tournament has been 84% from Ding
:20:25. > :20:44.Junhui, and 82% from Mark Selby. APPLAUSE.
:20:45. > :20:48.Well, applause, but we may see Ding Junhui take this red on to the right
:20:49. > :20:53.corner. The black is available into the opposite corner. It's a big
:20:54. > :20:56.shot, but they're all big shots now. He's got to start knocking these in.
:20:57. > :21:18.He knows it. Can he raise his game? Tried to hedge his bets by screwing
:21:19. > :21:22.ball to the ball, Ken, but the ready pen is creeping up and has somehow
:21:23. > :21:26.finished in the middle of the table. I am sure he thought if he got in
:21:27. > :21:37.the jaws of the pocket, he wouldn't leave it, but he has.
:21:38. > :21:52.Yeah, the type of shots - right in the heart of the pocket. They
:21:53. > :21:58.certainly give you a lift. He's got to play a good positional shot.
:21:59. > :22:00.Brown would be perfect, three cushions for the two reds above the
:22:01. > :22:10.black. This looks pretty good. Excellent
:22:11. > :22:42.positional shot. APPLAUSE APPLAUSE.
:22:43. > :22:48.Well, he's just contemplating, will he go into the pack of reds? He has
:22:49. > :22:56.a few reds available, but he has a nice angle on the black. He's
:22:57. > :23:05.blessed with a lot of cue. He's not going into the pack at this stage.
:23:06. > :23:30.Well, he played for the blue, and he didn't really get into the cue ball.
:23:31. > :23:33.He's on the yellow, but looks to be pretty straight. Got to choose this
:23:34. > :23:39.positional shot well. That'll do nicely, thank you.
:23:40. > :24:01.APPLAUSE APPLAUSE. 17. Heavy contact again. He's had a
:24:02. > :24:04.few kicks in this match. Took the pace out of the cue ball, wanted to
:24:05. > :24:26.be topside of the blue. Below the blue line, wanted to be a
:24:27. > :24:31.bit left of that line. Can drop the blue in or take the brown. The brown
:24:32. > :24:47.is a bit more pressure on, a bit of a tougher pot.
:24:48. > :24:54.Well, that to me shows the sign of a man who is growing in confidence, no
:24:55. > :24:59.hesitation. OK. He could have done with running this cue ball to the
:25:00. > :25:04.foot, but still nicely on this red. He'll be playing for the blue. He
:25:05. > :25:12.hasn't got the angle. He's not hitting. Now it would be great to
:25:13. > :25:22.play the brown and try to canon into the reds.
:25:23. > :25:28.I'm not quite sure if he has the angle here, but he needs a
:25:29. > :25:33.tremendous amount of power on the right-hand side. Almost got it -
:25:34. > :25:43.nice. Has he got a good kiss? Oh, great effort. Great attempt. Just
:25:44. > :26:14.couldn't generate enough power on the cue ball.
:26:15. > :26:20.Just to chase this side so when it came off the cue ball, it just moved
:26:21. > :26:25.behind the green. I think Ding Junhui has snookered on all the
:26:26. > :26:30.reds. He's looking to come off one cushion and land this red near the
:26:31. > :26:34.top cushion, which surely, Ken, is a big target just to the right of the
:26:35. > :26:39.pink, as we look, just to nestle into. Yeah, just put a line in
:26:40. > :26:43.there. I mean, if - the problem about trying to get the red as close
:26:44. > :26:47.to the top cushion, he could go by it and leave a possible pot, but the
:26:48. > :26:53.target is, as you said, the pack of reds. That's a bit short. He's
:26:54. > :26:59.looking down the line. You just saw Ding Junhui having a look at the
:27:00. > :27:02.line as the cue ball stumbled to a stall - to a halt, I should say. He
:27:03. > :27:06.has the line already, but that is the target. It is a big target,
:27:07. > :27:10.isn't it? Yeah, he's just worried that he might slip by, and that's
:27:11. > :27:15.why he had a quick look after it was going off the cushion. He seemed to
:27:16. > :27:19.be OK, just needs a bit more pace, but he cannot afford to slide by
:27:20. > :27:27.them. He'd leave a certain red on if he did. More pace. Don't want to
:27:28. > :27:31.slide by it. It's OK. Or is he? He's come around. Is there a gap for this
:27:32. > :27:46.red to go? Do you know, I think there is. I
:27:47. > :27:48.think he can play this with a trace of left-hand side and just turn this
:27:49. > :28:03.red over. He's playing with lots of left-hand
:28:04. > :28:09.side. This is on. This is on. Won't be striking down like this, but
:28:10. > :28:14.doing this, can he be on a colour? Mmm. I wouldn't have played it like
:28:15. > :28:18.that and he's left nothing. He has been fortunate there. To me, the
:28:19. > :28:23.slower you play that shot, the more chance you've got at getting the
:28:24. > :28:29.chance to turn the second red over. Totally agree. He could have played
:28:30. > :28:33.wit a little follow-through, left-hand side and gone on the
:28:34. > :28:46.black. He was reluctant to play that type of shot. But left nothing.
:28:47. > :29:01.I think Ding will be sat there mightily relieved because he looked
:29:02. > :29:06.to see if There was a gap for that red to be potted, and he thought it
:29:07. > :29:10.was on, so the fact he's got back to the table immediately, he didn't
:29:11. > :29:23.leave anything, he'll be very pleased. There's his reaction. You
:29:24. > :29:28.suggested he thought he left a red for Mark Selby. But he's played a
:29:29. > :29:33.very, very good safety shot there, has Mark in a lot of trouble. It's
:29:34. > :29:39.one of those where he's more or less forcing Mark into playing in pot
:29:40. > :29:43.here, and this does pass the black, but sometimes if there is no safety,
:29:44. > :29:52.you might as well try and pot your way out of trouble.
:29:53. > :30:05.I think he's eyeing the pot up - tough one. This is strangely tough.
:30:06. > :30:12.Oh, didn't want that - didn't want the cue ball going into the pack and
:30:13. > :30:18.came right across that, was hoping to avoid the pack of reds, and cha
:30:19. > :30:22.chance now for Ding. Well, that's a couple of shots there that Mark has
:30:23. > :30:28.played, and I'm surprised he played it so firm. If he'd have played it
:30:29. > :30:32.more or less deadweight, he could have - than what he was playing, so
:30:33. > :30:37.what's the chance now? He needs to take these. I know that goes without
:30:38. > :30:39.saying, but he has to up his game now and score heavily at these
:30:40. > :30:55.visits. Underhit it, but I think he's OK. He
:30:56. > :30:59.can stun it for the blue, just got to keep control of that cue ball to
:31:00. > :31:42.make the game easier. 15. Nicely on the blue again.
:31:43. > :31:48.Doesn't have to play any cannons. Certainly one of these two reds
:31:49. > :31:52.below the pink is to the right-hand corner, and if not one of them
:31:53. > :31:55.certainly one of the others, but he looked to have played that in
:31:56. > :32:10.perfect. Now he's in control of the cue ball. Can he take advantage?
:32:11. > :32:23.He's got a slight angle on the black. I'm just wondering will he
:32:24. > :32:29.play the cannon? I don't think he is. It's risky. But he's played it
:32:30. > :32:33.absolutely perfect, and now the frame is there at his mercy. I don't
:32:34. > :32:37.think he wanted to play that shot this early, but he landed so well on
:32:38. > :32:45.the black, he had to take the chance. 29. This black will put him
:32:46. > :33:02.five points in front. Yes, and that wonderful cannon, has
:33:03. > :33:05.brought those two reds into play, and set up an opportunity now, and
:33:06. > :33:10.that would certainly make him feel good.
:33:11. > :33:14.He's just having a quick look to see - will the red that's close to the
:33:15. > :33:42.pink - will that pot? 13 points, the lead now. These four
:33:43. > :33:48.remaining leds, and that will be the frame in the bag.
:33:49. > :34:24.21 ahead now, 51 remaining. 52. Two reds, two blacks, would put him into
:34:25. > :34:28.the snookers required stage. Maybe he doesn't fancy playing for the
:34:29. > :34:32.black but if he's up for the blue he'll need the three remaining reds.
:34:33. > :34:37.He's just having a quick glance of the scoreboard. His body language
:34:38. > :34:42.would suggest the red just below the pink doesn't pot. I was just
:34:43. > :34:48.wondering about his angle. On his next colour. He has a nice angle on
:34:49. > :34:51.the black. He could make a cannon on the red and pink, but he could still
:34:52. > :34:58.try and track the loose red as well, but he has a nice angle.
:34:59. > :35:07.Needs a good cannon. Needs a good kiss. Can he get past the pink? He's
:35:08. > :35:16.unlucky if he can't. I don't think he can. I do not think he can. Just
:35:17. > :35:24.a fraction more run on that cue ball.
:35:25. > :35:36.Sometimes you can convince yourself that it - you can get to the potting
:35:37. > :35:41.angle. Looks very tight. No, I think it's too risky. He's having to -
:35:42. > :35:50.would have to play it with a lot of right-hand side.
:35:51. > :35:57.He'll be disappointed with the safety shot. He was disappointed
:35:58. > :36:01.wasn't on the red, and I'm sorry to say it affected his next shot. That
:36:02. > :36:03.was not a good safety. Mark Selby knocks this red in, we could have a
:36:04. > :36:35.new favourite for this frame. Good attempt. May have thought that
:36:36. > :36:42.was in the minute he hit it. It was close. Look at his face. I think he
:36:43. > :36:47.did. Sometimes you think you're halfway there, you think you have
:36:48. > :36:51.potted it. That is good safety shot, better length with the cue ball this
:36:52. > :36:54.time. APPLAUSE.
:36:55. > :37:07.It's a tough one. But at this standard, just any nif of a pot, if
:37:08. > :37:15.your opponent knocks it in, could cost you the frame. Not there. Now,
:37:16. > :37:29.where is the red running? Where is the cue ball going? Hand up to
:37:30. > :37:34.apologise. He's got away with it. This is where you've just got to
:37:35. > :37:39.keep your focus, your self-control. He's not had the best of luck the
:37:40. > :37:41.last couple of visits, hasn't Ding Junhui. But don't let it affect your
:37:42. > :38:12.next shot. Well, he's having a look here, may
:38:13. > :38:18.play the cross double, Mark Selby. If this red is in off the
:38:19. > :38:31.right-hand-side cushion aiming towards the left middle pocket.
:38:32. > :38:40.It's not far away. Is it going to bounce into the other ball colour?
:38:41. > :39:00.It is. Nicely worked-out shot. He's got a
:39:01. > :39:06.nice angle on the green, as we see the back cross double. Pots the
:39:07. > :39:08.green into the top right-hand corner pocket, the natural angle of the cue
:39:09. > :39:34.ball will be going towards the red. 3. So this red, any colour, and the
:39:35. > :39:40.six remaining colours for the frame, a frame that looked all over. Ding
:39:41. > :39:45.Junhui was going to win it. He played the cannon on the red just
:39:46. > :39:49.behind the pink, just another roll of the cue ball, it would have been
:39:50. > :39:55.frame over. This was the one. It looked for all the world it was
:39:56. > :39:57.going to be on the red, and he just needed another roll. And now he's
:39:58. > :40:10.got to sit there and wonder. And he'll be feeling the worst now.
:40:11. > :40:11.We have a new favourite for this frame.
:40:12. > :40:25.APPLAUSE. Excellent pot on the red, just come
:40:26. > :40:28.too straight on the blue. We see the red again. Just got into the cue
:40:29. > :40:42.ball. He is going to have to drop the blue
:40:43. > :40:47.in and play the yellow from mid distance. This would possibly be
:40:48. > :41:01.Ding's only hope. If he pots this and gets on the
:41:02. > :41:07.green. Excellent shot, but again got into the cue ball a bit too much. A
:41:08. > :41:32.bit of adrenaline, a bit of tension in the back arm.
:41:33. > :41:41.Right in the middle of the pocket. He has just overrun. I always think
:41:42. > :41:46.that the key to this clearance is to make it easier is this positional
:41:47. > :41:48.shot now from brown to blue. If he gets perfect on the blue it is a
:41:49. > :42:04.formality. Taking deep breaths. He is not
:42:05. > :42:13.perfect on the blue. But he is perfect now. He is inch
:42:14. > :42:33.perfect now. This will hurt Ding. He had the
:42:34. > :42:40.frame almost in the bag and a couple of long pots that Mark Selby missed
:42:41. > :42:44.came out a bit lucky. Didn't leave Ding another chance and that back
:42:45. > :42:48.cross double as you quite rightly pointed out, John, that's what's
:42:49. > :42:58.given him this opportunity and what a frame to steal.
:42:59. > :43:08.Oh he is not on it! I thought he would have dropped it in-off one
:43:09. > :43:16.cushion. He has tried to make the black easier, just to leave himself
:43:17. > :43:19.an easier black. Well, look he is looking at the cut. Best of luck
:43:20. > :43:40.with this one. This is tough. He has got it. Absolutely superb.
:43:41. > :43:46.What a shot and Ding Junhui must wonder what he has got to do to win
:43:47. > :43:54.a frame. Now Mark Selby, he is in comfort zone you would think. He
:43:55. > :43:58.leads 16-11. Somebody's going to be the 2016 champion, I'm with the
:43:59. > :44:04.current one. You're still clinging on. Rvegts I have hopefully two
:44:05. > :44:14.frames. What was great. An unbelievable black. What have you
:44:15. > :44:21.made of the final, gritty? Yes, Ding has done well and he has done a
:44:22. > :44:27.Selby on everyone, he is so gritty. He is hanging on there and nicking
:44:28. > :44:33.frames. You have got an ulterior motive for being here? I have taken
:44:34. > :44:37.home half of the Crucible Theatre. Last year I actually walked past on
:44:38. > :44:43.the Tuesday and sealed a carpet in the skip. So I have bought a new
:44:44. > :44:47.house and there is a snooker room and I thought it would be a good
:44:48. > :44:55.idea to nick some of the carpet. Stops you paying for it and they
:44:56. > :45:01.talk about Scousest! Rs! You're here for the after party. You like a
:45:02. > :45:06.party. Looking back at last year, my manager done me in like a kipper, he
:45:07. > :45:12.said have a quick picture with this, three hours later I was still taking
:45:13. > :45:16.pictures. What has the 12 months been like? It has been fantastic. I
:45:17. > :45:19.will remember it for the rest of my life. Your name is never coming off
:45:20. > :45:35.the trophy. No. Thank you. Cheers. Stuart Bingham has a vested
:45:36. > :45:40.interested, if Mark Selby doesn't win, Stuart Bingham will be
:45:41. > :45:44.snooker's 12th world No 1. So he has a stake in what is going on. But
:45:45. > :45:49.what an amazing black to finish? Yes I thought it was like a lifeline for
:45:50. > :45:53.Ding Junhui as Mark tried to make sure of the final black by trying to
:45:54. > :45:58.get straighter on it. For a second, I thought he was dead level on the
:45:59. > :46:06.it would be impossible to play the shot. But he pulled out a big shot
:46:07. > :46:13.that was the difference between 16-11 or 15-12. He has won three
:46:14. > :46:20.frames in a row and he is two away from a second title.
:46:21. > :46:30.Mark Selby breaks off in this 28-frame to become champion of the
:46:31. > :46:37.world for a second time. I'm looking at Ding Junhui in the chair, was it
:46:38. > :46:46.a look of resignation or just sort of a bit numb after losing that
:46:47. > :46:52.frame? What a black Selby pulled out. I'm sure there was a few times,
:46:53. > :46:57.particularly on the black, where he thought, I would get back in it. The
:46:58. > :47:01.fact he looked closely to see he has left the red. As we see that black
:47:02. > :47:07.again. That was amazing. He made it look easy. But it was so thin. He
:47:08. > :47:13.played wit a trace of side, which is amazing. But Ding Junhui I think he
:47:14. > :47:17.may still have a bit left. He was keen to see whether Mark could get
:47:18. > :47:22.past the green. I don't think he can to play this red near the right
:47:23. > :47:28.corner. And the fact the player is look and hoping he has not left a
:47:29. > :47:35.chance makes you think he still believes that he can win this. But
:47:36. > :47:40.obviously the next couple of frames very important. As long as you keep
:47:41. > :47:42.your opponent two away from the winning line, you fool you can make
:47:43. > :47:59.an odd mistake. Not the best safety shot from Mark
:48:00. > :48:18.Selby and he has left a chance of a pot here for Ding Junhui.
:48:19. > :48:35.Nice pot. He is tight to the cushion, but just dropping the blue
:48:36. > :48:46.in will leave him on the this red near the right corner.
:48:47. > :48:55.Now he will be looking for an angle on the black. This is the last of
:48:56. > :48:58.the loose reds. Only that awkward red on the right-hand side that will
:48:59. > :49:04.not be interesting Ding Junhui in this shot.
:49:05. > :49:22.Just leave a good angle on the black.
:49:23. > :49:30.Maybe a bit lower than you would like, but the perfect angle to go
:49:31. > :49:34.into the edge of the reds, but you must pay due care and attention to
:49:35. > :49:36.the pot. Sometimes you can take your eye off the pot. You're hitting it
:49:37. > :49:54.with a lot of force. Now, how's your luck? First glance -
:49:55. > :49:58.not very good. That is unlucky. I mean he has hit it with enough pace
:49:59. > :50:10.you would think he would have a shot of some sort. Unlucky. I think the
:50:11. > :50:14.red that's closest to the cue ball may go to the far left corner
:50:15. > :50:16.pocket. I think it just passes the pink. But you can't play it. It is
:50:17. > :50:28.fraught with danger. Having to resort to the safety. As
:50:29. > :50:34.well as having to play well, he needs the run of the balls just to
:50:35. > :51:03.change a little bit. To help him. Not had it so far.
:51:04. > :51:13.You might have heard then Mark Selby say, good shot. Tells us he feels he
:51:14. > :51:35.is in a spot of bother. He can't see a safety.
:51:36. > :51:45.Just over a minute and getting longer. To decide what to play. It
:51:46. > :51:53.that is red near the left middle that is the danger ball. How can he
:51:54. > :51:58.cover a path to that? I put a line here, it is possible he could come
:51:59. > :52:02.off the left-hand side cushion and try and nestle into the bottom of
:52:03. > :52:10.the pack of reds. But he has got to be very delicate with that
:52:11. > :52:15.particular shot. If he slips by the pack it could leave the red closest
:52:16. > :52:22.to the pink on the right-hand side. He has... It is a one cushion
:52:23. > :52:27.escape. Doesn't look that difficult. The only problem I see if you hit
:52:28. > :52:31.that red and you hit it full you could leave a red to the far left
:52:32. > :52:35.corner. That is what would worry him. He has looked at the two reds
:52:36. > :52:38.on the right-hand side cushion, whether he could nestle up to one
:52:39. > :52:45.and get the cover. But he would have to be so delicate with the shot.
:52:46. > :52:50.Anything a bit too hard would leave a red to the left middle. Coming up
:52:51. > :53:07.to two and a half minutes now. This is another alternative, off
:53:08. > :53:12.that side cushion and try and nestle in that side of the pack of reds.
:53:13. > :53:19.That is why he's having a look at now. If he nestles on that red at
:53:20. > :53:28.the bottom will he be leaving the one you suggested?
:53:29. > :53:37.That is what he was afraid of. One to left centre and the one to the
:53:38. > :53:44.right centre, John. Yes he had to hit it absolutely perfect. When he
:53:45. > :53:46.said, good shot to Ding Junhui, he meant it. Now k Ding Junhui take
:53:47. > :54:06.advantage? Oh! Just caught the near jaw! Didn't
:54:07. > :54:10.go in that clean. Just caught the near jaw. But it was enough to catch
:54:11. > :54:25.the pocket. You have got to forget the scoreline
:54:26. > :54:31.in these instances and just take one ball at a time.
:54:32. > :54:41.There is this frame and one more before the mid session interval.
:54:42. > :55:39.He is having a look. I think he will play for the blue. But he may elect
:55:40. > :55:44.to play for the green. The reason I'm suggesting that, he has played
:55:45. > :55:48.for the blue, because the pink is separated from the reds it is not an
:55:49. > :55:52.automatic hit the pink and the pink will open the reds. I thought maybe
:55:53. > :55:59.green and come into the side. But he has played the blue.
:56:00. > :56:10.I don't think there is a red in that cluster of six that is available.
:56:11. > :56:20.It is not a formality to open them up. He played it on the side. That
:56:21. > :56:25.red needs to pounce and it has done. He hit it perfectly. Controlled it.
:56:26. > :56:28.Good shot. Played it lovely. He didn't go into the pink as you
:56:29. > :56:34.suggested, because he could have lost the cue ball. Just judged it,
:56:35. > :56:39.passed by the pink and into the couple of reds.
:56:40. > :56:45.That has brought them in lovely. Nice angle on the black now. He can
:56:46. > :56:47.go into the pack of four and still be on the red closest to the left
:56:48. > :57:04.corner pocket. Slightly hampered. Could have done
:57:05. > :57:10.with that cue ball just separating itself from the red a little more
:57:11. > :57:24.and giving him the possibility to just cue it freely.
:57:25. > :57:30.He couldn't do much with the cue ball. But he kept the white away
:57:31. > :57:33.from the side cushion. It is a bit of pressure on this black. Just got
:57:34. > :57:47.to roll it in. Normally. Can you make that the last phone we
:57:48. > :57:49.hear tonight, please? That is the all you need. A pressure pot to
:57:50. > :58:06.play. Right in the heart of the pocket.
:58:07. > :58:12.Well played. Great pot under the circumstances. Just a couple more.
:58:13. > :58:16.Get his first frame on the board this evening. This has been good
:58:17. > :58:40.stuff from Ding Junhui. So there this pink now to put him 70
:58:41. > :58:57.points ahead with just 67 remaining. Well played, Ding Junhui.
:58:58. > :59:01.Particularly after losing such a close last frame.
:59:02. > :59:08.This is an excellent reply. Showing a lot of character. You asked me at
:59:09. > :59:11.the zart of frame what I thought was left, when he got the snooker behind
:59:12. > :59:16.the green and the way he looked to see if he had covered the red near
:59:17. > :59:22.the right corner pocket, that has shown me a man that is still up for
:59:23. > :59:31.this and is still looking to play good safety and take his chances.
:59:32. > :59:41.When he has been asked about temperament, whether we credit Terry
:59:42. > :59:46.Griffiths, I don't know. But me has shown great temperament.
:59:47. > :59:56.No more so than in this final, particularly when he was 6-0 down.
:59:57. > :00:05.And still out there and still believing and it is a great sign.
:00:06. > :00:14.And as you said, John, as long as you can keep your opponent, when he
:00:15. > :00:34.needs to frames, you always feel you have some sort of a chance.
:00:35. > :00:42.The red didn't go in, it didn't make this century, but it will please him
:00:43. > :00:47.a lot to get his first frame on the board tonight. It is still Mark
:00:48. > :00:54.Selby who leads Ding Junhui why 16-12. We have seen some fantastic
:00:55. > :01:00.scoring form from Ding Junhui. He has made 14 centuries in this
:01:01. > :01:04.championship, just too shy of the record held by Steve Hendry, but he
:01:05. > :01:13.is mixing it up tactically, it is not just the brakes. You cannot when
:01:14. > :01:18.you play Mark Selby, he has hung in, brilliance but it is not just the
:01:19. > :01:23.frames to should win, it is nicking a couple you shouldn't and there are
:01:24. > :01:28.a couple of frames, if you can cast your mind back to the second frame
:01:29. > :01:33.of the match when he needed a snooker on the yellow and got it and
:01:34. > :01:39.that made the difference. And keeping Selby at 16, if he gets on
:01:40. > :01:44.the brink, you have to say it looks like the cards may fall, but how
:01:45. > :01:52.much belief can you still have in yourself at this scoreline? It's not
:01:53. > :01:56.so much belief is hope, and forgetting about what is ahead and
:01:57. > :02:01.what's gone, just playing the shots in front of you, and he knows you
:02:02. > :02:07.can get on a row but he understands senior a bit of help from the balls,
:02:08. > :02:20.a bit of luck to go his way. He is still fighting. He certainly is
:02:21. > :02:23.still fighting. COMMENTATOR: Showing a lot of
:02:24. > :02:29.character out there, especially when there is so much pressure. This is
:02:30. > :02:42.his first final. Mark Selby has already had his hands on that
:02:43. > :02:52.wonderful trophy. There you see Mark Selby's name, 2014, Stuart, 2015 of
:02:53. > :03:01.course. And that the default Lady on the top of the trophy, John.
:03:02. > :03:12.Pushed a red to the corner but it may be cut above. There she is.
:03:13. > :03:23.Funny when you see the pictures of Joe Davis when he added, it was the
:03:24. > :03:32.same trophy. 1927, I think it dates back to.
:03:33. > :03:56.And interesting spectator from the Snooker Academy there. Here he is
:03:57. > :04:03.supporting Ding, I'm sure. His practice partner.
:04:04. > :04:15.Missed the yellow, now he wants to miss position. And he may well have
:04:16. > :04:41.done. That little rub of the green just favoured him there.
:04:42. > :05:30.Game could just rule include these red and then after a couple of shots
:05:31. > :05:36.it might have re-rack written all over it. I cannot see a path back to
:05:37. > :06:17.baulk unless it is touching. It is touching. No re-rack.
:06:18. > :06:27.Nicely judged but I'm sure it's a touching ball. Touching ball. It is
:06:28. > :06:34.the type of situation that you don't want to Snooker your opponent, if he
:06:35. > :06:40.can put the cue ball in the jaws of the yellow pocket, it forces your
:06:41. > :06:45.opponent to play this safety shot off the back of rents, where a red
:06:46. > :06:51.Mike come out, so you don't want to be sniggering your opponent.
:06:52. > :06:56.Personally I would leave the cue ball near the yellow pocket. If you
:06:57. > :07:03.have a tight, as you say, if he snookers him, it's quite an easy
:07:04. > :07:08.escape with such a big target. And this time he has not played, he's
:07:09. > :07:14.trying to leave it in the jaws of the pocket. And that will be awkward
:07:15. > :07:17.viewing. I suggested the other side because there is the yellow and
:07:18. > :07:22.green on this right-hand side he could get in time, whereas the other
:07:23. > :07:29.side he would have to swing it around. Now what the pack of threads
:07:30. > :07:34.here. He has to be careful he doesn't not be read towards the left
:07:35. > :07:47.corner pocket. And be careful of them bump on the middle pocket. He's
:07:48. > :08:01.played this well. The red was a bonus but a marvellous cue ball.
:08:02. > :08:24.That was a good Yorkshire Sound, wasn't it? Goodlatte! -- good lad!
:08:25. > :08:33.Mark having a look at this raid near the top cushion to the right of the
:08:34. > :08:38.black, the red near the Black isn't available, so as long as he doesn't
:08:39. > :08:45.run across the face of it and leave this red one, is it short? And that
:08:46. > :08:47.is the worst way to be short because he has left a sitter to the left
:08:48. > :09:39.corner! Couldn't be short. A bit tentative, that one. It could
:09:40. > :09:48.be topside of the blue again. A slight angle to take the cue ball in
:09:49. > :09:54.and out of baulk. It's not easy to get on this next available red. You
:09:55. > :09:59.have to keep your wits about you all the time. The one thing he needed
:10:00. > :10:04.was a good angle on the blue. He's gone nicely on the red, just played
:10:05. > :10:11.the red, should have given more thought. It's the yellow running
:10:12. > :10:17.around. He decided to check it and add ten to watch, that shows you the
:10:18. > :10:25.skill of this young man. He may be able to play the red along the
:10:26. > :10:29.cushion. The way he checked it, tongued the right-hand side. Very
:10:30. > :10:48.character -- clever. He's just got a slight angle on the
:10:49. > :10:59.blue. Whether it is enough or not, it's hard to say. Just past the blue
:11:00. > :11:09.line, but whether he can force the cue ball down to his next red. Now
:11:10. > :11:14.he's just making sure. I wonder if he's offered anything in the
:11:15. > :11:20.cluster. He's looking at the red sticking out. He has played a few of
:11:21. > :11:38.these in this tournament. He's very good at fine cuts. He played quite a
:11:39. > :12:01.few. And there is another one! Hinders a bounce, he got a bounce.
:12:02. > :12:13.He needs a lot of side on this. He needs to hurry. He's not on it. Has
:12:14. > :12:26.he spotted something in the pack? The right middle? The referee, Paul
:12:27. > :12:30.Collier, looking. It could be a planned to the middle but it begs
:12:31. > :12:42.the question, where does the colour come from? I think it's own.
:12:43. > :12:44.Extremely risky, isn't it? Is he going to force the cue ball through
:12:45. > :13:02.the pack of rents? What a short! What a shot! What a
:13:03. > :13:07.shot to take on at this stage, trying to force the cue ball up
:13:08. > :13:12.towards the blue. Look at how much power he could get into the cue ball
:13:13. > :13:33.to force it through those reds, lots of top spin.
:13:34. > :13:43.Didn't like the double kiss, obviously. He's left Mark Selby a
:13:44. > :13:53.chance of a pot, which is the last thing he wanted to do.
:13:54. > :14:02.A little cluster of four below the link. He's not looking at the two on
:14:03. > :14:08.the left-hand side of the table. Just in the bottom of the cluster of
:14:09. > :14:14.four, it may be a guide, hits it to the right corner. And he wasn't far
:14:15. > :14:22.away! I think he has covered it, but Ding
:14:23. > :15:16.Junhui can play the plant. A bit too much pace, wanted a red to
:15:17. > :15:21.the left centre, had to take it into the yellow pocket, but the problem
:15:22. > :15:28.is the cue ball will be going towards the left centre pocket. With
:15:29. > :15:33.the cue ball being so close to the cushion, there's not a lot you can
:15:34. > :15:40.do. He can't widen the angle, so he has to judge. Does he have to play
:15:41. > :15:46.this to the middle? He's playing it to the middle.
:15:47. > :16:11.Played it very well, but unfortunately a bit too straight on
:16:12. > :16:19.the green. He's having a look at the blue. Doesn't have to do much with
:16:20. > :16:26.the cue ball, looking to try and get on the red, just to the right of the
:16:27. > :16:36.black. I don't like that choice, mainly because he has that sheep
:16:37. > :16:42.path to screw back off the green. Where is the cue ball going? A lot
:16:43. > :16:47.closer to the middle pocket and he was expecting. He was playing to
:16:48. > :16:53.bring the cue ball on the other side of the middle pocket there. He may
:16:54. > :17:12.not be about anything that he has a 38 point lead to protect.
:17:13. > :17:18.He's got the upper hand and Mark Selby knows he cannot afford to
:17:19. > :17:44.leave one more chance, were this frame will have gone.
:17:45. > :17:57.A good line with the cue ball, but he has left this red on. I'm sure he
:17:58. > :18:09.can pot this and avoid the kiss on the black and the red close to the
:18:10. > :18:16.top cushion. He certainly can, and his played it very well indeed.
:18:17. > :18:24.Nicely controlled. Just managed to miss the black and red. Excellent
:18:25. > :18:30.shot. Just one good positional shot of the blue will set up a frame with
:18:31. > :18:37.the opportunity, you have to queue these nicely, do not take the blue
:18:38. > :18:43.for granted. Got into a little bit too much. Just a slight raise of the
:18:44. > :19:20.hand to mark. Mid-session interval after this
:19:21. > :19:34.frame. And this red to go 52 ahead, with just 51 remaining. Well played.
:19:35. > :19:39.Made certain of the red, I don't blame him for that, but now he will
:19:40. > :19:43.concentrate hard on that link. There's only one Snooker leaders and
:19:44. > :19:49.we see how these frames have been turned on their head. But in goes
:19:50. > :20:00.that pink. There will be note return to the table for Mark Selby. A
:20:01. > :20:04.brilliant response from Ding Junhui. Yes, and that's all you can do in
:20:05. > :20:11.these situations, make your opponent realise you will not go away. He's
:20:12. > :20:21.not going to give it to him. Don't give it to him easy. He could be
:20:22. > :20:25.given for his head to drop especially after winning that second
:20:26. > :20:29.frame, but he's getting back into this match and still in with a
:20:30. > :20:32.fighting chance of his first world title. He's not going to give it up
:20:33. > :21:09.easily. That's good to see. He may play a run through here and
:21:10. > :21:16.try and disturb the brown, look at towards the corner. He's hit it
:21:17. > :21:21.hard, he got that cannon, but he will be dying now to get to the
:21:22. > :21:32.dressing room. He is still in the match. Something frames coming up,
:21:33. > :21:39.Ken. Yet, absolutely. They will go to the mid-session interval and a
:21:40. > :21:53.nice cup of tea will taste very nice indeed. Well played, very well laid
:21:54. > :21:58.indeed. Mark Selby won the second frame of the evening, ding didn't
:21:59. > :22:04.let his head drop and he won the next few frames. They go into the
:22:05. > :22:10.interval, he is still three behind but I believe he believes he still
:22:11. > :22:15.has a chance. I think he's beginning to believe he has a great chance as
:22:16. > :22:19.well and back where he started, three frames per thanks against Mark
:22:20. > :22:24.Selby as he goes into his dressing room, Worsley will have another
:22:25. > :22:30.consultation with Terry Griffiths, his coach, trying to behind one of
:22:31. > :22:36.the three qualifiers, because remember this is his eighth match,
:22:37. > :22:41.he came here as a qualifier after starting the season as world number
:22:42. > :22:47.four and dropped out of the top 16. What a journey back. I thought he
:22:48. > :22:53.was starting to weaken, I thought it was becoming too much and those were
:22:54. > :22:57.two fabulous responses to windows to frames. It is a bring performance
:22:58. > :23:04.but he has not made any ground on Mark Selby, so Mark Selby will
:23:05. > :23:08.think, he has done his job, if he can keep the lead he will be
:23:09. > :23:14.champion. At the big dimming of this match, a lot of people but, could
:23:15. > :23:20.Mark Selby hang on to the coat-tails of engine we, such were the role
:23:21. > :23:25.went break secret, but the way this final started, just described the
:23:26. > :23:30.level of resolve we have seen from Ding Junhui that we haven't
:23:31. > :23:36.previously. I think he has matured and we have seen that progress over
:23:37. > :23:40.all the years we watched them on the circuit, he has reached the stage
:23:41. > :23:46.where he is calm around the table, Terry is in his corner but to win
:23:47. > :23:50.five ranking events a couple of seasons ago is no mean feat. He is
:23:51. > :23:55.quite calm at the moment, in his dressing room he is not pumped up he
:23:56. > :24:01.knows the job in hand but what we saw at the start was somebody going
:24:02. > :24:06.violently behind in the final and coming to terms with the fact it was
:24:07. > :24:10.all unravelling, winning a frame, feeling the emotion of getting one
:24:11. > :24:14.frame and then going to work, and he ground his way back. You have to
:24:15. > :24:23.have admiration for somebody to do that. Easy to just live in, always
:24:24. > :24:26.easy to go in. It's also easier to come back to people who are more
:24:27. > :24:32.expansive because Mark Selby does not give you anything. There is an
:24:33. > :24:36.examination every time he concluded table, he puts you in the worst
:24:37. > :24:45.place, so it is slow, you cannot get it quickly. We may be into the home
:24:46. > :24:49.straight here in 17 snooker marathon but it was a fortnight ago when
:24:50. > :24:53.Steve Davis crossed another finishing line because he called
:24:54. > :25:31.time on a 38 year most interesting career.
:25:32. > :25:41.I think I was dotting the eyes and crossing the Tees, it was something
:25:42. > :25:47.I'd got a not going to do that, I am happy just going into oblivion. In a
:25:48. > :25:52.way, a relief that it was the end before us for a couple of years I
:25:53. > :25:58.think I had been going through the emotions, mainly for my father. When
:25:59. > :26:09.it was all over I felt relief that it was the end of an era. My dad was
:26:10. > :26:15.the reason I played. Snooker became his passion. He tried to get as good
:26:16. > :26:19.as he could that he didn't have that talent, so he learnt from the Joe
:26:20. > :26:25.Davis I bowl on how to lay the game but he got to a break of 58, that
:26:26. > :26:34.was his best, I'd talked through every positional shot of his 58
:26:35. > :26:38.break. Around the age of Fort team I showed great interest in full-size
:26:39. > :26:42.tables and playing the game properly, and he embraced that and
:26:43. > :26:48.tried to help me become as good as I could be using this book so that
:26:49. > :26:52.became the Bible and we didn't know anything about how to play the game
:26:53. > :26:57.properly. All that ever happened was, he tried to get my mix Alex
:26:58. > :27:01.Wright to make me as straight a header as I could be, and we had to
:27:02. > :27:07.learn the game together, and then we went on a journey, not just around
:27:08. > :27:12.the country with my father waking up at stupid times to go to work, six
:27:13. > :27:18.a.m., driving a staff us across London and then coming back at 6pm
:27:19. > :27:23.and thriving me to a snooker match. He devoted so much time to my career
:27:24. > :27:28.but it was his passion so it is not like it was hard for him, it was
:27:29. > :27:33.just what we did and every day was a journey. Turning professional,
:27:34. > :27:40.playing my heroes, playing his heroes and then realising his boy
:27:41. > :27:44.was arguably that, so his boy became in a short space of time the
:27:45. > :27:50.champion of the world. It must have been astonishing but I don't know
:27:51. > :27:58.how he thought about it. I think I'm a last frame in distressing room,
:27:59. > :28:07.one of these rooms, he told me that might... I'm not sad, it's just...
:28:08. > :28:14.So he said, he never watched the last frame, and he sold his soul to
:28:15. > :28:23.the devil so I would win a large frame. And that is it, the World
:28:24. > :28:33.Snooker champion, 1981, Steve Davies.
:28:34. > :28:40.Congratulations there to the Embassy world champion, Steve Davies, from
:28:41. > :28:46.his manager, return. Barry is impatient. He can't wait for me to
:28:47. > :28:51.turn professional, my dad is going, I'm not sure he's ready yet. You
:28:52. > :28:59.have to strike while the iron is hot. Sign this piece of paper on Abe
:29:00. > :29:05.bus stop in Blackpool at! Right, sign it. And if I hadn't signed that
:29:06. > :29:13.piece of paper or we hadn't been bullied by Barry, he is impatient, I
:29:14. > :29:19.would never have turned professional in 1978 and I wouldn't have been
:29:20. > :29:23.here in 1979 as a pro and two years later wouldn't have won the World
:29:24. > :29:26.Championship, so while I owe my father everything for getting me
:29:27. > :29:32.interested, the significance of Barry Hearn and how he got me
:29:33. > :29:37.excited by the game and how we bumped into each other in such a
:29:38. > :29:39.over till moment in the history of BBC snooker meant it was the right
:29:40. > :29:52.time, right place, just amazing. Most of all I would like to thank my
:29:53. > :30:08.mum and my dad and Barry and Susan. Suddenly I was in demand and he was
:30:09. > :30:15.selling me like a piece of meat to the highest bidder. I would be in
:30:16. > :30:22.the office, he would be on the phone, that's OK, he loves coffee.
:30:23. > :30:27.Nine grand for the day. I would say, where did you get that number from?
:30:28. > :30:32.He said, I thought of a number and troubled it. That is Barry. Most
:30:33. > :30:38.people would say think of a number and double it, he would treble it
:30:39. > :30:43.immediately! In the UK championship in 1980, Alex
:30:44. > :30:49.Higgins in the final, a player who was hot property and fastly
:30:50. > :31:01.talented. But I beat him 16-6. Not even close. That was a massive
:31:02. > :31:07.turning point. Suddenly, in my dominance. That became the start of
:31:08. > :31:17.the golden era. COMMENTATOR: It is all over.
:31:18. > :31:33.Beautiful. 147!
:31:34. > :31:56.April 1989, I won the World Championship and I apologise John,
:31:57. > :32:04.if you are listening, I beat John 18-3. I played the best I've ever
:32:05. > :32:10.played. I felt I owned it. I played Stephen in the UK championship and
:32:11. > :32:13.he beat me in the big event. COMMENTATOR: He comes forward to
:32:14. > :32:19.shake hands of young Stephen Hendry. I went into the studio with Stephen.
:32:20. > :32:26.David Klein asked me questions first. As a statement than asking
:32:27. > :32:30.the question, went, well, the end of an era, and turned to Stephen
:32:31. > :32:36.Hendry. And I thought, bloody cheek, how day you, how can you say that?
:32:37. > :32:42.As it turned out, it was. I never won the World Championship again.
:32:43. > :32:47.My father passed away this year just before the World Championship. I
:32:48. > :32:52.still plated it. He was with me from the start, so I thought finished...
:32:53. > :33:23.APPLAUSE. I've enjoyed it all, yes. I've
:33:24. > :33:27.enjoyed the love, the love of the people who watch snooker, how much
:33:28. > :33:31.it means to them and how many people come up to you and say, you are the
:33:32. > :33:37.reason I started playing, I am so pleased I fell in love with snooker.
:33:38. > :33:42.To think that the game you fell in love with, so many people have got
:33:43. > :33:46.pleasure out of it, what a life, to have done that, to have fallen in
:33:47. > :33:51.love with a game that is your hobby, becomes your profession, you are a
:33:52. > :33:56.flag bearer, and that is all you really, and the next minute, people
:33:57. > :34:04.are calling you a legend, it is mind blowing. The love for snooker
:34:05. > :34:13.worldwide is astonishing. And it is not my game. It is so...
:34:14. > :34:34.It is a great game, you know. So much for smudging the mascara,
:34:35. > :34:39.thanks very much for that! And so much for Barry Hearn' Romford robot.
:34:40. > :34:46.What did the lap of honour mean to you a couple of weeks ago? I did not
:34:47. > :34:50.want to do it but I am so pleased I did, it was fantastic. The fans who
:34:51. > :34:56.come here, they have supported this game, over the years, when the media
:34:57. > :35:01.sometimes... It is an easy hit, to criticise it, it is slow,
:35:02. > :35:04.everything. The fans who watch know how entertaining it is and every
:35:05. > :35:10.year it gives millions of people around the world so much pleasure.
:35:11. > :35:15.Marvellous to be a part of it. Barry, I know he is a mate, but how
:35:16. > :35:20.surprised how widespread and deep the reaction has been? It is
:35:21. > :35:27.difficult. That is the first time I have seen that clip and it is quite
:35:28. > :35:32.emotional. It is so unnatural for Davis to do what he did because he
:35:33. > :35:35.is not a flash bloke who goes out and milks the crowd. It is an honour
:35:36. > :35:43.to have known him and watched his career. We would none of us be here
:35:44. > :35:48.without this fella. I was going to say, you clearly bullied him to sign
:35:49. > :35:54.a contract and he knows you, but how much do you owe him? It is not in
:35:55. > :35:58.the same league. I was useful for few years when he was quiet and
:35:59. > :36:02.bashful and needed someone to fight his corner and watch his back, and I
:36:03. > :36:07.was good that, but I have learned more from this man in the subsequent
:36:08. > :36:12.30 years, we have been together for two years. It is the song, it does
:36:13. > :36:15.not seem a day too long. All good things come to an end but our
:36:16. > :36:22.friendship doesn't and his involvement in the game does not. As
:36:23. > :36:29.an ambassador I cannot have a better flag bearer bound Steve. The love he
:36:30. > :36:33.got in the room is something I have not experienced. It is a terrific
:36:34. > :36:38.statement on what he has done and for me, I don't want to get big
:36:39. > :36:45.headed, I would not be here without him and I would not want to be here
:36:46. > :36:50.without him. There are one or two people you bashed up at the table
:36:51. > :36:54.want their say. One of them is John parrot. You played this man when he
:36:55. > :37:02.was in his pomp, 1989, the final here. Absolutely. I got a thumping.
:37:03. > :37:08.He was at the top of his game. I think he beat you in the semifinal.
:37:09. > :37:11.You were on the end of it. I was involved in the worst match, that
:37:12. > :37:15.one, my best match was two years later beating him in the semifinal
:37:16. > :37:23.which he never remembers, by the way! The big thing is after playing
:37:24. > :37:31.against him, I count him as one of my best friends of the world. Steve,
:37:32. > :37:36.how influential was he knew? And the comment from David Vine, the end of
:37:37. > :37:41.an era, did it feel like that? I remember the first major tournament
:37:42. > :37:48.I beat Steve, it was like a defining moment in my career. He has probably
:37:49. > :37:52.been one of the most influential and inspirational people are my career.
:37:53. > :37:57.I wanted to be the best and he was the best. I had to not copy him, but
:37:58. > :38:06.look at him and see what I had to do to be the best. John, what did you
:38:07. > :38:11.discover about Steve, and what changed when you started your career
:38:12. > :38:15.as broadcasters? I thought for many years he was only programmed to
:38:16. > :38:20.speak at press conferences when he won. Many players did not see him.
:38:21. > :38:27.He was aloof. It was about the mystique. Working with him I got to
:38:28. > :38:31.know him better and the Steve Davis now is different and we get on
:38:32. > :38:34.famously well. We are known as the citrus twins because we are like a
:38:35. > :38:38.couple of lemons when we stand together in front of the camera. We
:38:39. > :38:49.are good pals and I enjoy his company. Six time world champion,
:38:50. > :38:53.the UK championship, Masters. Former Sports Personality Of The Year and
:38:54. > :39:02.in the top three on a number of occasions. 28 world ranking titles.
:39:03. > :39:07.And snooker's official first maximum break. He has kind of done his bit.
:39:08. > :39:15.He is entitled to a couple of weeks off. I am going to be on him all the
:39:16. > :39:19.time. The DJ career is fine, but his original love of snooker, he has a
:39:20. > :39:24.big role to play around the world. Showing people, inspiring people of
:39:25. > :39:28.all ages. How good a game is and how good you have to be and the price
:39:29. > :39:36.you have to pay to excel at his chosen sport. You will see a lot
:39:37. > :39:44.more of Mr Davies. I cannot -- Mr Steve Davis. I could not lose a
:39:45. > :39:47.client! And a fantastic announcement, 2027, this great
:39:48. > :39:52.championship will stay in Sheffield. You heard is the reaction.
:39:53. > :39:56.Unbelievable and I am happy to get it out and get it done because I am
:39:57. > :40:02.tired of people asking, are you taking this to China? The answer is
:40:03. > :40:06.I am not, of course. This tournament has been excellent. The extension of
:40:07. > :40:13.the BBC contract coupled with ten years, I am made up. This sport is
:40:14. > :40:17.back to where it deserves to be. It has been a lot of hard work by a lot
:40:18. > :40:22.of people and the players and backroom boys and girls have to take
:40:23. > :40:25.credit. We are back as a major global sport and ten years at the
:40:26. > :40:32.Crucible is a great answer to those people who think the sport is just
:40:33. > :40:35.about money. Sport is about history, quality of venue, atmosphere
:40:36. > :40:40.generated and history. This place has the history and we cannot ignore
:40:41. > :40:45.it. We started the chat with tears and we are finishing with a little
:40:46. > :40:50.bit of a laugh. We had a huge amount of reaction to Steve's retirement.
:40:51. > :40:56.We have had a lot of reaction from you today about the shot of the
:40:57. > :41:02.championship will stop you have had your say and this is it.
:41:03. > :41:19.In third place, Ronnie O'Sullivan's brilliant plant from round two.
:41:20. > :41:23.In second place with 20% of the votes, Alan McManus and his trick
:41:24. > :41:31.shot in the semifinal against Ding Junhui.
:41:32. > :41:41.This time it is close, this time it is really close. A wonderful break.
:41:42. > :41:48.He takes a bow. And you're winning shot with 20.8% of the votes. The
:41:49. > :41:56.amazing escape from Mark Selby in his semifinal against Marco Fu.
:41:57. > :42:03.COMMENTATOR: What they hit. Where is the cue ball going? Behind the
:42:04. > :42:12.black? Yes! Unbelievable! Congratulations
:42:13. > :42:18.to Mark and thank you to all of you who voted.
:42:19. > :42:25.Will he win the big one tonight for the second time? It is getting
:42:26. > :42:30.close. Ding Junhui is on the comeback trail. Will it continue? A
:42:31. > :42:31.change of commentary and it is Stephen Hendry and Dennis Taylor in
:42:32. > :42:43.charge. Good evening. A very good evening, Hazel. Welcome
:42:44. > :42:47.back to the final session. Ding Junhui, to win the last two frames,
:42:48. > :43:10.showed an awful lot of class. Those last two frames Ding Junhui
:43:11. > :43:15.won, he won them in style with breaks of 73 and 70.
:43:16. > :43:43.Can he keep it going? The Crucible crowd really have got
:43:44. > :43:49.behind the Chinese player. They want to see a comeback. Mark Selby has a
:43:50. > :43:57.terrific support here, going for his second world title.
:43:58. > :44:01.And that is the beautiful shot as we zoom in from the back of the
:44:02. > :44:28.Crucible. Much too thin will stop that was
:44:29. > :44:41.nervy. Will the blue come to his rescue? It has. Very fortunate.
:44:42. > :45:24.It is unusual for him to hit a shot like that, but he got away with it.
:45:25. > :45:44.Desperately trying to get to that figure 17, when he will need one
:45:45. > :45:45.more frame. You feel as long as your opponent needs two frames, you are
:45:46. > :45:56.in with a chance. Is it going to reach? Of course it
:45:57. > :46:28.is. He might be able to take this pot
:46:29. > :46:47.on. He is coming around to look at the ankle. -- angle.
:46:48. > :46:57.I mentioned the two breaks that Ding made but he made a 60 break to win
:46:58. > :46:58.the frame before, so that is saying a lot about his character, that he
:46:59. > :47:30.could come back from that. I think it has been a great feature
:47:31. > :47:35.of his character in this World Championship. When he has lost a
:47:36. > :47:44.frame he could have won, or he has her disappointment, he came back
:47:45. > :47:53.strongly. In his first round, he came back and won four frames in a
:47:54. > :47:56.row to win the match. He has been stronger mentally this World
:47:57. > :48:26.Championship than in previous years. There is a chance here.
:48:27. > :48:32.He is OK. There is a red at the act of the bunch. If you just drops the
:48:33. > :49:01.blue in. -- back of the bunch. I think he played for the red by the
:49:02. > :49:34.pink. But he has come too far. I think he can get on the red you
:49:35. > :49:39.mention this time. He is looking to see if another one will pass. Into
:49:40. > :50:02.the corner pocket. He was hoping to be on this red so
:50:03. > :50:18.he could play for the black. He might be able to do that still.
:50:19. > :50:27.Very well played indeed. All of a sudden, with that one cannon, he has
:50:28. > :50:56.developed quite a bit of the game here.
:50:57. > :51:10.He may go into the bunch here. Maybe not a pace, but just to bring one or
:51:11. > :51:16.two reds. He is stuck on that red. Does he have one to be right centre
:51:17. > :51:20.I wonder? He is having a long hard look at that one. If he is on that,
:51:21. > :52:02.it would be much better. This is terrific from Ding Junhui,
:52:03. > :52:06.it really years. -- it really is. It is break-building of the highest
:52:07. > :53:19.quality. Bringing reds into play with every shot.
:53:20. > :53:30.Another good angle to again cannon some reds out. He has that little
:53:31. > :53:35.bit of insurance. That has gone wrong. He was into the
:53:36. > :53:54.cue ball far too much. The cutbacks are difficult, cutting
:53:55. > :54:27.back into a blind pocket. It is interesting, listening to
:54:28. > :54:33.Steve Davis and Barry Hearn and talking about history and all the
:54:34. > :54:39.things that have happened at the Crucible. There is another bit of
:54:40. > :54:45.history still on the cards here. Ding Junhui aiming to be the first
:54:46. > :54:47.Asian player to lift a world title. And the way he is playing here, he
:54:48. > :55:18.is far from out of this final. 60 in front. Not far away from
:55:19. > :55:42.securing this important frame. This could be the key shot.
:55:43. > :55:52.If he is playing to the right corner, if he misses the cannon and
:55:53. > :56:02.snookers himself, he could land on nothing. Is it worth risking that?
:56:03. > :56:10.Or just playing around for the pink or blue? He is not far from winning
:56:11. > :56:17.the frame. Yes, play the percentage shot. The only problem is if you
:56:18. > :56:26.think it is a natural angle, you are tempted to play it. He is playing
:56:27. > :56:27.the top spin say he may get the cannon. And he has played it
:56:28. > :56:39.perfectly. He played it plain ball. He took the
:56:40. > :56:50.risk and got the cannon you mentioned. And now he just needs
:56:51. > :57:10.this black. Doing it in style, again.
:57:11. > :57:21.If he goes on to make a century, it will be his 15th, one century behind
:57:22. > :57:28.Stephen Hendry. And it will equal last year's record, 86. Under these
:57:29. > :57:48.circumstances, this is superb. That got quite a big bounce off the
:57:49. > :58:13.cushion. The only problem is he has not
:58:14. > :58:26.finished nicely on the red. Can he cut this in?
:58:27. > :58:45.What a fantastic century break from Ding Junhui. Don't the Crucible
:58:46. > :58:52.crowd just love that? He has equalled last year's record of 86
:58:53. > :58:56.centuries. It does not matter about the red. Mark Selby knows he is
:58:57. > :59:05.playing a man who is playing out of his skin at the moment. Three in a
:59:06. > :59:10.row and with that he closes the gap. That is confirmation, the 86, it
:59:11. > :59:17.equals last year's record of centuries made at the Crucible. And
:59:18. > :59:25.one shy of Stephen Hendry and the record set in 2002, three in a row.
:59:26. > :59:30.73, 70 and 103 breaks. He has the wind in his sails. It never ceases
:59:31. > :59:35.to amaze how the game throws up exciting finishes. When you thought
:59:36. > :59:39.the game was dead at 6-0. We expect Mark Selby to be granite and get
:59:40. > :59:48.over the line, but you never know. Put yourself in Mark's situation,
:59:49. > :59:52.what is it like being the man in control of the situation, and yet
:59:53. > :59:57.this fella is on your tail. You have to try to block out everything and
:59:58. > :00:01.play every individual ball and every individual frame and forget the
:00:02. > :00:07.school board. It is more difficult than you would think and Ding has
:00:08. > :00:11.momentum, which is the hard bit. When your opponent plays as he is
:00:12. > :00:15.you feel like a bit part player in the match. If you are on level terms
:00:16. > :00:21.you forget about the scoreline and compete. When you are in front and
:00:22. > :00:26.someone comes back, you are looking over your shoulder. It is hard to
:00:27. > :00:31.block that out. Time and again Mark Selby has to produce is best. The
:00:32. > :00:39.closer we get to the finishing line. Will it be the same now?
:00:40. > :00:47.COMMENTATOR: That is the question, Hazel. We have seen Mark Selby do it
:00:48. > :00:51.before when put under pressure, it is amazing the number of times he
:00:52. > :00:57.has responded but this is no ordinary match. The final of the
:00:58. > :01:02.World Championship, Crucible Theatre, looking for his second,
:01:03. > :01:05.Dane looking for his first. It doesn't get better than this. And a
:01:06. > :01:33.good break off. This needs a very thin contact. He
:01:34. > :01:38.could go into the pocket here with the cue ball. He's got the thin
:01:39. > :02:15.contact. That's a very good shot. That's open the reds up somewhat.
:02:16. > :02:24.He's coming up a little short but it certainly splayed those reds. He
:02:25. > :02:29.hasn't left anything on but it now means that whoever makes a mistake
:02:30. > :02:36.could leave his opponent in with a chance. It's been an Ding Junhui for
:02:37. > :02:43.the last three frames. He's only needed the one chance. Mark Selby
:02:44. > :02:45.will be well aware of that. He'll be trying to keep it as tight as
:02:46. > :03:22.possible now. There is the safety success rate.
:03:23. > :03:26.Mark Selby just ahead but Dane has played some superb tactical speaker
:03:27. > :03:48.as well as locking in frame-winning breaks.
:03:49. > :03:54.That was all he could do there. It just means that Mark has got an easy
:03:55. > :04:28.return back to the safety area. I think he can get past the blue to
:04:29. > :04:33.snick the red. It's very tight but I think he can just see an edge. Just
:04:34. > :05:21.about. Just got to be a little bit careful
:05:22. > :05:25.now that he doesn't send a red towards the left corner pocket. His
:05:26. > :05:31.target will be to try and get the white down towards the brown, you
:05:32. > :05:34.play it as if you were trying to get a cannon onto the brown, you might
:05:35. > :05:40.get it behind it. He's headed to thin. This will be a bonus. Not
:05:41. > :05:55.quite. Just developing into a bit of an
:05:56. > :06:00.awkward frame here. I suppose Mark Selby won't mind that one little bit
:06:01. > :06:11.after watching Ding Junhui win three in a row with one chance. Yes,
:06:12. > :06:21.especially if we get a red that travels next to that lack -- that
:06:22. > :06:27.lack. The time since Mark has potted anything is almost an hour. It's a
:06:28. > :06:48.long time in a final session to go without potting.
:06:49. > :06:56.It's always worth attempting that but it's highly unlikely he could
:06:57. > :06:59.get it that he got a good cue ball and the fact he did get it could put
:07:00. > :07:10.Ding Junhui in even more trouble here.
:07:11. > :07:18.He's not denigrate deal of trouble but the way the reds are, there is
:07:19. > :07:22.an escape after right side of the table to those reds behind the black
:07:23. > :07:28.spot because they are all a little awkward.
:07:29. > :07:36.Try to block off the path down the right side but I think it stinks
:07:37. > :07:40.goes somewhere near the middle pocket he could land on the red --
:07:41. > :07:49.if Dean goes somewhere near the middle pocket. Just below the middle
:07:50. > :07:56.pocket somewhere and I think he can nestle on that. He has played eight
:07:57. > :08:21.good few shots like this. I think it is there for him.
:08:22. > :08:30.If it's dead straight, he can follow it through on the only red he can't
:08:31. > :08:37.leave. If he follows the cue ball on the line, he's looking at it from
:08:38. > :08:44.the baulk and so doesn't fancy it. When you haven't potted a ball from
:08:45. > :08:48.nearly an hour, it's not very inviting, but it's just sort of shot
:08:49. > :08:57.players would take an but he's keeping it tight here.
:08:58. > :09:03.Keeping a quite in the jaws of the pocket over there, looks after
:09:04. > :09:10.safety shot down the right side of the table and with the black and red
:09:11. > :09:15.at the left side, it's awkward. To get a good safety there. This is a
:09:16. > :09:31.thin one he is looking at. Very thin one. A bit on the fish side. --
:09:32. > :09:37.deck. That last shot from Mark Selby left it very awkward for Ding and
:09:38. > :09:47.now the chance for Mark to pot his first ball for over an hour. He did
:09:48. > :09:54.put the planting, I suppose that was the thing.
:09:55. > :10:01.Amazing, and not only has he missed it, look where the red is, so there
:10:02. > :10:05.are signs that things are turning around in this final. That was a
:10:06. > :10:25.nervous fit. -- hit. Easy to see who is the most
:10:26. > :10:32.comparable ode there at the moment, the man in the red waistcoat. It's
:10:33. > :10:40.all about momentum in these long matches and at the moment Ding has
:10:41. > :10:45.it. The man in the red waistcoat, he's been wearing that for a while
:10:46. > :10:46.and was the great Tiger Woods who always played on the final day in
:10:47. > :11:10.red. This is awkward, he will need to
:11:11. > :11:17.rest here because he have to do lean over the reds there. And he has to
:11:18. > :11:35.get a little bit of action on this to get back onto a read.
:11:36. > :11:47.And that was the problem, he had to force it into your position. -- to
:11:48. > :11:52.get position. Just put it on the left there but the blue has gone
:11:53. > :11:58.safe and that pink is out of commission at the moment. It was an
:11:59. > :12:36.easy starter but not a great deal available.
:12:37. > :12:43.The two reds that are to the left of the black spot, one red above the
:12:44. > :12:53.right corner, that is the one he would love to get on.
:12:54. > :13:00.That was an excellent choice of shot. He's all right. At least he
:13:01. > :13:09.has landed on a read. He hit that beautifully. It was the pacey played
:13:10. > :13:19.it had, and he almost brought the pink and red into play.
:13:20. > :13:26.The only problem with playing for the black, he wants an ankle on it
:13:27. > :13:32.but if he plays for an angle, that red is just up the left side
:13:33. > :13:36.cushion, he could be hampered by that one so a straight is not good
:13:37. > :13:45.on the black. Maybe he can play a cannon on the red. He has just
:13:46. > :13:50.rushed it. -- brushed it. That is where he would like to get the cue
:13:51. > :13:56.ball after potting the black, but he will need the extension on his cue
:13:57. > :14:04.and the rest. He doesn't have to force this to much but you still
:14:05. > :14:10.have to be very accurate with it. Just come in behind that red their
:14:11. > :14:17.that's just to the left of that are closest to the back version. He's
:14:18. > :14:25.got to give it full concentration from both parts of the shot.
:14:26. > :14:36.No. Put the black straight onto the near jaw, didn't get the white
:14:37. > :14:44.anywhere near where he wanted it. That was a nervy one, wasn't it?
:14:45. > :14:50.Very tentative. It was nowhere near strong enough. A little bit worrying
:14:51. > :16:07.for Mark Selby and his porters. We're going to have one of those
:16:08. > :16:31.very tense affairs here, the way the balls have gone.
:16:32. > :17:06.And who is going to make the first mistake in this safety exchange?
:17:07. > :17:28.Just concerned about flicking a red over the right corner pocket.
:17:29. > :17:36.Hit that a bit thick. He hasn't played a good safety shot. What a
:17:37. > :17:47.test for Ding Junhui here. Black is over the pocket.
:17:48. > :17:54.The only problem, looking at the angle there, if he plays a little
:17:55. > :17:59.stunned shot, he has to find the gap. If he plays a plain ball, he
:18:00. > :18:06.might be able to avoid the red, the pink there. It's all about that top
:18:07. > :18:16.tier, that is for sure. -- that pot here.
:18:17. > :18:28.And that was close. And now it's a better chance for Mark Selby, if
:18:29. > :18:34.this red passes the pink. As we showed you the red wobble in the
:18:35. > :18:41.jaws but it must be pretty tight. That tells you how close that was.
:18:42. > :18:47.That red certainly doesn't go but he might be able to get to the one that
:18:48. > :18:54.two behind the pink. If we just come around with it camera, it shows you,
:18:55. > :19:04.maybe you can just see enough of the potting angle.
:19:05. > :19:12.He is concerned about the cue ball but I think he's also concerned
:19:13. > :19:30.about missing the previous red into this same pocket.
:19:31. > :19:38.I think he will find the angle, where he is pointing the cue, if the
:19:39. > :19:53.pot set. He wants to just find the path between the red and the black.
:19:54. > :20:04.Couldn't have played it better. He gave it a lot of thought but it
:20:05. > :20:10.worked out perfect and he has an angle on them like here to please
:20:11. > :20:14.himself, he can go cannon link into the realms and bring quite a few of
:20:15. > :20:19.them into play and that is what he is looking at, he could clear the
:20:20. > :20:30.black spot area, he has all sorts of choices available to him. And he's
:20:31. > :20:39.picked the wrong one. Tried to be very precise there. He's played the
:20:40. > :20:45.red closest to the black spot but his court that red first, that other
:20:46. > :20:47.one. That could have been a frame and an opportunity if that went
:20:48. > :21:00.right there. He could have played a lot more of
:21:01. > :21:02.pace into the four reds around the cue ball here but he chose to play
:21:03. > :21:22.the additional shot. Sometimes you're trying to be so
:21:23. > :21:27.precise, that can happen but he had a great angle on the black just to
:21:28. > :21:32.scatter everything here. If each stunned that in, those four reds, he
:21:33. > :21:37.would probably have moved the red that he tried to anyway and he would
:21:38. > :21:38.have opened everything up, but a little bit of a stalemate here at
:21:39. > :21:59.the moment. Touching ball, both reds. Both reds?
:22:00. > :22:04.If he moves one of the reds, it's a foul shot. He can't do much with
:22:05. > :22:18.this. The referee will have to keep an eye on this one. What is the...
:22:19. > :22:24.If any of those red move, it's a foul shot. I have no idea what he is
:22:25. > :22:45.playing here, Dennis. Whatever it was it worked because he
:22:46. > :22:47.would never have been in that edition before, touching two reds
:22:48. > :23:01.like that. It's nice to see the injured we
:23:02. > :23:06.smiling. When he came on the scene you could never get a smile out of
:23:07. > :23:13.him. He is a changed lad, a smashing lad. I went out with him and his
:23:14. > :23:16.sponsors, a dozen of us went out for a meal and he was a delight to sit
:23:17. > :23:29.by and his English has improved so much. Hopefully he is able to get
:23:30. > :23:37.the cue ball back to the baulk end, that is why he is up there, then
:23:38. > :23:44.asked him for a re-rack but Mark blanked him. Mark doesn't mind this
:23:45. > :23:48.after the rash of breaks that Ding Junhui has thrown at them. He is not
:23:49. > :23:57.bothered about having a tactical frame here. And this is close to
:23:58. > :24:25.getting in behind the brown. What an effort this is.
:24:26. > :24:44.And he's still smiling. But what he is doing, he's sitting upright in
:24:45. > :24:49.his seat and I'm sure Terry Griffiths has worked on that with,
:24:50. > :24:53.because four years ago he used to get slumped in these chairs and I
:24:54. > :24:58.said to him, don't show your opponent you are slumping, sit
:24:59. > :25:00.upright. It's all to do with positive thinking and keeping
:25:01. > :25:16.yourself was it. -- positive. That bounced too far, it may have.
:25:17. > :25:41.It may have. On a practice table, he could easily
:25:42. > :25:46.put that up the left-hand side but far too much at stake in this frame.
:25:47. > :25:57.He is struggling to buy a positional shot, Mark Selby. He's had two were
:25:58. > :26:08.three decent chances in this frame already, Dell Mack. That last shot
:26:09. > :26:10.was a pretty straightforward shot, a margin for error and he has overdone
:26:11. > :26:28.it. Bounced a bit too far. That's all right, keeping things
:26:29. > :26:38.tight but you have to take those chances and he's not doing it at the
:26:39. > :26:42.moment, Stephen. Every time he comes to the moment and doesn't take an
:26:43. > :27:03.opportunity, he is giving thing more encouragement.
:27:04. > :27:13.And that will do nicely. That will do very nicely. That's a stroke of
:27:14. > :27:20.good fortune because he left a couple of pots on but now that he is
:27:21. > :27:26.tight in next to the blue, very difficult, there is little things
:27:27. > :27:31.starting to happen out there. Mark showing his annoyance at that but
:27:32. > :27:37.you have had chances, Mark, to win this frame. Sometimes if you don't
:27:38. > :27:55.take them, the balls don't forgive you and you get punished. It was
:27:56. > :27:58.very fortunate. I don't think he can come off the cushion or rolled the
:27:59. > :28:03.red to the right because those three reds get a black, at least one of
:28:04. > :28:12.them is available along the cushion, so he has a problem here. Those
:28:13. > :28:19.three reds behind the black, it's a top one dozen pot, he will play this
:28:20. > :28:23.one dead weight. If he gets the cue ball somewhere near that corner
:28:24. > :28:29.pocket, that is about as safe as he's going to get it. He's looking
:28:30. > :28:35.to see if he leaves a cue ball here, is one of these reds pottable to the
:28:36. > :28:37.right corner? If he does get it he will win the black. It will be some
:28:38. > :29:05.shot. To strike over the blue and hip
:29:06. > :29:10.white in the centre to give a chance of potting that, we saw earlier he
:29:11. > :29:15.won shot of the championship, that would have been up there. It was an
:29:16. > :29:26.escape shot that gave him the shot of the championship. He's missed
:29:27. > :29:29.that cannon, he still has a pot of but he wanted that cannon a lot
:29:30. > :30:12.funner. -- more full. this was the cannon. He had to make
:30:13. > :30:19.sure of the black and just caught the pink. You should be OK here.
:30:20. > :30:28.I say he should be OK, it looks like you can take it on and find the gap
:30:29. > :30:31.between the black and reds, but the longer you take over a shot,
:30:32. > :30:38.sometimes the more difficult it becomes.
:30:39. > :30:45.He should have got down straightaway and played the correct shot. He
:30:46. > :30:50.thought about it. When he eventually played it he hit it all wrong. He
:30:51. > :30:55.could have left something easier than this.
:30:56. > :31:04.It is as if he is trying a little bit too hard at the moment to get to
:31:05. > :31:11.17 frames, when he will just need one to win. He could have left
:31:12. > :31:20.something easier than this. He might just be able to see enough to cut it
:31:21. > :31:27.in. He has over cut it. He has left it. Mark Selby back at the table
:31:28. > :31:34.quicker than he thought he was going to be. He was fortunate. When he
:31:35. > :31:45.scattered the reds, that he did not leave something easier. Ding was
:31:46. > :31:46.fortunate. Mark was hampered by the blue in a previous shot. Another
:31:47. > :32:03.chance. Not trying to do anything special
:32:04. > :32:10.with the cue ball, just making sure of the pot.
:32:11. > :32:20.At a less pressurised moment of the match, he would have played for the
:32:21. > :32:39.pink. He is desperate to get these two frames by whatever means.
:32:40. > :32:51.He played that with right-hand side to get the cue ball closer to the
:32:52. > :32:58.red. I think it will be red to the right corner.
:32:59. > :33:10.He doesn't like it. That is the red I would fancy. It looks the more
:33:11. > :33:28.straightforward positional shot. That is what he is going to attempt.
:33:29. > :34:05.He may even play pink. It will go on the blue spot.
:34:06. > :34:16.He needs 51 points to leave Ding needing snookers.
:34:17. > :34:20.This is straightforward but the red in the open will only pot to the
:34:21. > :34:31.left corner. He must finish higher on the black
:34:32. > :34:38.if he is screwing back for the black. Every shot he is playing he
:34:39. > :34:48.is making ultrashort, because he knows the importance of this frame.
:34:49. > :34:57.-- sure. We have been going almost 35 minutes. It is just what Mark
:34:58. > :35:06.wanted, really. Because Ding Junhui was flying, with breaks of 73, 70,
:35:07. > :35:12.103. It was just the way the balls went at the start of this frame. He
:35:13. > :35:17.did not play a good shot. He decided he could not get the angle on the
:35:18. > :35:24.black but he has not got past the line of the pink. We can show you,
:35:25. > :35:28.dead straight. He will not get onto the red to the left corner from
:35:29. > :35:32.here. He would have to play a trick shot. Will he try that? Surely not
:35:33. > :35:54.at this stage of the match. No. He decided not to take the extra
:35:55. > :36:08.points and just push the pink into a safer position.
:36:09. > :36:23.I think I would have taken the six points.
:36:24. > :36:28.It would have meant he only needed one red and a colour to make
:36:29. > :37:08.absolutely sure. That is not bad. That was a pretty
:37:09. > :37:09.good shot from Ding. REFEREE: Can everybody please make sure their
:37:10. > :37:34.phones are on silent. Maybe playing a shot to nothing. No.
:37:35. > :37:46.He is not taking any risks, Mark Selby.
:37:47. > :37:54.He is in a strong position in this frame with the 36 point advantage
:37:55. > :38:32.with the blue and pink as they are. It is quite a substantial lead.
:38:33. > :38:44.Is Ding Junhui going to get a chance to get back into this frame?
:38:45. > :38:51.It will be difficult the wave Mark Selby has set his stall out. This is
:38:52. > :39:28.a huge frame in this final. He does not really want to bring
:39:29. > :39:30.this red into play, but he may have to do with no other EC safety shot
:39:31. > :39:46.on. -- easy. Ding would love to get in behind the
:39:47. > :40:11.green. I think you can hit this. He hit the pink unintentionally, but
:40:12. > :40:19.it has brought the pink and it has moved the blue. He caught Ding
:40:20. > :40:24.between wanting to get the reds into the open, but not playing too
:40:25. > :40:41.aggressive a safety shot and leaving a pot on for Mark Selby.
:40:42. > :41:38.It is difficult. He has the gap. But... Can he avoid the black and
:41:39. > :41:54.red if he comes around the table, that is the question. Just trying to
:41:55. > :41:58.roll to it. How delicate was that? I think we will give the table fitted
:41:59. > :42:09.ten out of ten. That ball ran perfectly straight.
:42:10. > :42:20.If the cue ball was further away from the cushion Mark Selby could
:42:21. > :42:30.play directly into the red. It is a risk. He does not want to bring reds
:42:31. > :42:36.into the open. The shot would make it harder for Ding to score points.
:42:37. > :42:43.If he is going twice across the table to get in behind the brown,
:42:44. > :42:48.the pink is slightly in the way. He judged it well. He may be tight in
:42:49. > :42:57.behind the brown. That is another terrific shot.
:42:58. > :43:06.His wife applauding that good shot. It is nervous times. In fact it is
:43:07. > :43:19.more nervous for the family that it is for you when you are out there.
:43:20. > :43:31.Look at the swerve. He will hit the black. Mark may have this replaced
:43:32. > :43:42.because he was in a tough spot. It was these swerve that took the white
:43:43. > :43:48.away. It was almost a better results hitting the black first because if
:43:49. > :44:01.he catches red and black together at that pace, it will cost him the
:44:02. > :44:09.frame. Olivier, from Belgium, just directing where the balls were.
:44:10. > :44:23.He does not have too played the same shot again. He is going to try it.
:44:24. > :44:50.This is risky. You don't often see a very gentle
:44:51. > :44:56.swerve like that, but he judged it to perfection that time. He could be
:44:57. > :45:05.in a bit of other again. Looking at the angle, I am not sure if he can
:45:06. > :45:12.get in behind the green and blue. He can get it to the jaws of the
:45:13. > :45:14.pocket. If he is trying these snooker he has to miss the middle
:45:15. > :45:19.pocket. That was about the best he could do
:45:20. > :45:32.from that angle. Ding is faced with a shot the full
:45:33. > :45:43.length of the table and he must hit it thin.
:45:44. > :45:56.Well played, this is a terrific shot, a brilliant safety shot.
:45:57. > :46:06.He had the full length of the table. With the white near the jaws and the
:46:07. > :46:14.red near the cushion. You will not see a better safety shot than that.
:46:15. > :46:28.He has mixed it up so well in every department, Ding Junhui.
:46:29. > :46:58.The 39 points advantage could be in a little bit of jeopardy. The
:46:59. > :47:45.colours are all in play now. That was risky. Look where he had
:47:46. > :47:53.the cue ball. He was right on the black. He has left a difficult cut.
:47:54. > :48:01.Once they touch the cushion rarely do they go in at that pace. Mark is
:48:02. > :48:06.not even looking at the cut into the middle pocket, he is now. Surely if
:48:07. > :48:17.he cuts it in he might cannon be yellow. -- PLO. He is looking at
:48:18. > :48:19.coming back behind the black. He could go off the red and go back up
:48:20. > :48:46.behind the green and blue. The red to the right middle
:48:47. > :48:58.definitely looks on. He could come back down for the black and play it
:48:59. > :49:03.as a shot to nothing. He has not taken any risks whatsoever in this
:49:04. > :49:08.long, tactical frame, a frame that would get him to 17 and be just one
:49:09. > :49:12.frame away from his second World Championship.
:49:13. > :49:37.It is coming up to one and a half minutes of thinking time.
:49:38. > :49:40.Well, he did attempt the doubled in the end but look where he had the
:49:41. > :50:03.cue ball. I think he will just knock the black
:50:04. > :50:12.safe. He is just rolling in behind. Has he got the snooker? Has he put
:50:13. > :50:14.himself in trouble here? Maybe he has just got the snooker. Yes, there
:50:15. > :50:36.you see it. If he swerves around and hits the
:50:37. > :50:44.cushion first he is bound to leave the red up near the pink. You have
:50:45. > :50:53.to be so precise. He has stuck them up. The red I mentioned. The roll in
:50:54. > :50:55.behind the black, he thought long and hard and it was the right shot
:50:56. > :51:05.in the end. Mark Selby using all his years of
:51:06. > :51:20.experience in this frame. It was an awkward frame. The balls
:51:21. > :51:37.went a bit funny early on. He took his time over every single shot.
:51:38. > :51:53.It does not matter about the yellow. Ding signals to the referee he
:51:54. > :51:58.concedes that very long heart -- hard-fought frame. Mark Selby has
:51:59. > :52:04.got to the magic 17. He only needs one more for his second world title.
:52:05. > :52:13.He was protecting the advantage. He was giving nothing away. Granite,
:52:14. > :52:18.absolute granites. As hard as steel girders. He did not take chances and
:52:19. > :52:22.kept the pressure on Ding. He played a rock hard frame of snooker when he
:52:23. > :52:30.needed it because the momentum has been the Ding. 51 minutes. When we
:52:31. > :52:35.look back to the last finals, there has always been one frame, an epic,
:52:36. > :52:39.and the winner has generally tended to have broken the spirit of the
:52:40. > :52:45.other guy. It happened last year with Stuart Bingham overcoming Shaun
:52:46. > :52:52.Murphy. Was that the key frame? It could have been. The decision
:52:53. > :52:57.whether to play safe, to Gopher shots, is paramount. Magnified by
:52:58. > :53:05.the situation. Ding had the red along the top cushion. He chose to
:53:06. > :53:09.pot. It was a potential get back in the frame shot but when he missed it
:53:10. > :53:14.he sacrificed the tactical part of the game to Mark Selby. You do not
:53:15. > :53:18.think you have done too much damage but the other guy is in the
:53:19. > :53:23.ascendancy in attack will stop that is the level. It has followed the
:53:24. > :53:27.same pattern, when he has got behind him and looked like he could put him
:53:28. > :53:33.under pressure, he has always found something else. As he always done.
:53:34. > :53:38.He has been on and off world number one since 2011 and has stayed there
:53:39. > :53:41.because his match playing skills are phenomenal. Everyone has told me he
:53:42. > :53:45.is not playing well in this tournament. How did he get in the
:53:46. > :53:50.final if he is not playing well? He competes in every department. There
:53:51. > :53:55.have been sessions where he has not been near his best but he comes out
:53:56. > :54:03.of them for - four. He has said he has not at times pages best and he
:54:04. > :54:08.has found a way to get by. You may not have played at your best, but he
:54:09. > :54:12.has competed at his best and that is the most important thing. One more
:54:13. > :54:20.and he will be a multiple world champion.
:54:21. > :54:26.Yes, as Hazel said, one more frame needed from Mark Selby to win his
:54:27. > :54:36.second world title. That was, as John parrot said, a
:54:37. > :54:50.granite frame of snooker played by the world number one.
:54:51. > :54:59.That was much too thin and he will leave an early chance.
:55:00. > :55:08.That last frame may have taken a lot out of Ding Junhui, because he was
:55:09. > :55:20.in the ascendancy. He had breaks of 73, 70, 103, he was flying. All of a
:55:21. > :55:23.sudden, Mark Selby put the breaks on. And a lot of that was down to
:55:24. > :55:36.how the balls went in the last frame. Possibly more of an acute
:55:37. > :55:44.angle but he can go into the pink from this.
:55:45. > :56:42.Wow. I did not think that was going to fall. That was achieved have
:56:43. > :56:51.another look. He had to play the most difficult pot. REFEREE: Can
:56:52. > :56:57.everybody make sure their phones are off now, please. Do not be the idiot
:56:58. > :57:01.that spoils this. This is what you dream of to win the World
:57:02. > :57:04.Championship, a chance like this. The black is not available at the
:57:05. > :57:18.moment. Look at the reds. Yes, the reds he put there when he
:57:19. > :57:24.potted the blue and opened up the game. If he can get to 69 points, he
:57:25. > :57:31.will be world champion for the second time. There are an awful lot
:57:32. > :57:35.of balls to be potted. He played a poor positional shot there. This can
:57:36. > :57:52.go wrong. It is not getting any easier, this
:57:53. > :58:18.break. He looked absolutely shattered last
:58:19. > :58:26.evening, just after midnight. It does take it out of you mentally
:58:27. > :58:27.here at the Crucible. You finish up, it is just adrenaline that keeps you
:58:28. > :58:46.going. This is what you practise all the
:58:47. > :58:54.hours four. An opportunity in amongst the balls to win the World
:58:55. > :58:59.Championship. There is Vicki, his wife. And her mum. Who has been
:59:00. > :59:02.looking after their daughter. They have been up in the champions'
:59:03. > :59:24.lounge. That was an excellent positional
:59:25. > :59:31.shot. And there is one of the top pool players in the world. I think
:59:32. > :59:36.he travels to China with you, Stephen. Yes there is a lot of
:59:37. > :59:55.Chinese eight ball pool. Oh, has that gone wrong? Looking at
:59:56. > :00:03.his body language, I think he is on a pot.
:00:04. > :00:14.That's a possible pot to the middle pocket. He flicked the black say.
:00:15. > :00:20.Can he hold this for the pink? It's a delicate little screw shot that is
:00:21. > :00:47.needed. Just a fraction away from being perfect.
:00:48. > :00:54.Nicely judged, it just means that pink is slightly more at difficult
:00:55. > :01:07.now, just running away slightly from the reds. The last couple of frames
:01:08. > :01:21.he's been taking his time and not rushing into the shot.
:01:22. > :01:30.Doesn't have to even worry about the blacks, he's got that pink and if it
:01:31. > :01:36.goes slightly astray, he's got the blue. It's a fabulous chance here
:01:37. > :01:43.and Ding Junhui, will he get back to the table, that's the question. He
:01:44. > :01:47.has been unbelievable this year, winning three qualifying matches to
:01:48. > :02:06.get to the Crucible and has played so well. The wrong side of the blue.
:02:07. > :02:11.Looking at the more it difficult thing, which would give him better
:02:12. > :02:42.position. -- pink. That last shot has just knocked a
:02:43. > :02:44.couple of those reds into safe editions, so it's not a
:02:45. > :02:57.straightforward run to the line by any means now. He's looking
:02:58. > :03:07.determined to get it won in this frame. That is probably as focused
:03:08. > :03:16.as he has looked all right. -- all night.
:03:17. > :03:24.Ding Junhui has had some fantastic support from this crowd but Mark
:03:25. > :03:30.Selby is a very popular world number one, I think this Crucible crowd
:03:31. > :03:33.wanted to see a comeback and they did see one from doing with three
:03:34. > :03:48.immaculate frames. And that is a delightful little
:03:49. > :03:59.cavern. Just to open those two reds up.
:04:00. > :04:06.He's just showing why he is the world number one. He won the last
:04:07. > :04:11.frame with so much tactical and safety play, it looks like he may
:04:12. > :04:18.clinch this world final with this rate. Just one more easy read
:04:19. > :04:39.available. He's 53 ahead. It's still not quite over but there
:04:40. > :05:30.is a very proud wife there. Will he get another chance? If Mark
:05:31. > :05:35.Selby was to win this frame and final, that is exactly the score he
:05:36. > :05:49.beat Ronnie O'Sullivan two years ago, 18-14.
:05:50. > :06:07.Almost there. For the world number one.
:06:08. > :06:16.What a feeling this is. He's just got a position for the first time in
:06:17. > :06:22.this rate but what a feeling to be on a break to win the World
:06:23. > :06:27.Championship. You can't beat it. You have done it on seven occasions,
:06:28. > :06:36.Stephen, so nobody knows the feeling better than you. It's not a gimme
:06:37. > :06:47.that any means but it is the one that would give him the title. And
:06:48. > :06:54.it's there. He points up to his wife Vicky and look at that smile.
:06:55. > :07:04.He missed two tournament 's before the World Championship. He came in
:07:05. > :07:09.under the radar even though he was world number one but every credit to
:07:10. > :07:14.Ding Junhui, everyone back in China can be so proud of him, he has
:07:15. > :07:20.played a fabulous World Championship. Deng is having a look.
:07:21. > :07:28.He is coming forward to shake the hand of Mark Selby. What a great
:07:29. > :07:34.final these two played. Mark Selby, for the second time, lets the world
:07:35. > :07:41.title and he becomes the bet Fred world champion for 2016, winning 18
:07:42. > :07:51.frames to 14. Congratulations all around.
:07:52. > :07:59.Ladies and gentlemen, please show your appreciation for two fun car to
:08:00. > :08:03.confine us today, and let me offer my commiserations and
:08:04. > :08:09.congratulations to Ding Junhui. He knows how to win, but from 6-0
:08:10. > :08:15.behind, how proud were you of the weight you were fighting in the last
:08:16. > :08:21.couple of days? And very bad start, I thought I couldn't win frames
:08:22. > :08:28.because I had never been to a final before and Mark played well, to win
:08:29. > :08:33.the second frame was a big frame so I was thinking I need to win
:08:34. > :08:38.something, so just go for it. This young man has given us 15 centuries,
:08:39. > :08:44.he has won seven matches to get you, he has won some very special
:08:45. > :08:49.performances and a lot of farms and a lot of respect. Thank you, Ding
:08:50. > :08:57.Junhui. APPLAUSE
:08:58. > :09:06.And here he is, are champion, Mr Selby. You have joined a very select
:09:07. > :09:12.group, you are just working multiple world champion. I wonder how good
:09:13. > :09:17.and how special that sounds for you. It was very special to win it two
:09:18. > :09:22.years ago for the first time. I felt or under pressure this year then two
:09:23. > :09:28.years ago because I didn't know what to expect some are so happy to win
:09:29. > :09:32.but it was a tough idle. Dean is a fantastic layer and the amount of
:09:33. > :09:38.pressure he is under from China to get to the final and play the way he
:09:39. > :09:44.did, I can only imagine. 6-0 behind but he got twice within one frame of
:09:45. > :09:50.you and I wonder how key the two frames you one last night work in
:09:51. > :09:57.establishing that lead overnight. It got off to a great start at first to
:09:58. > :10:01.18, 6-0 is not a huge need, especially when you are playing
:10:02. > :10:06.someone of being's class, and the second and third session I just need
:10:07. > :10:15.to be hanging onto ham. This morning, when I came out 5-4, so
:10:16. > :10:18.just over the moon. You are admitted you haven't been at your best
:10:19. > :10:25.sometimes through this championship so how have you won again? I don't
:10:26. > :10:32.know. I save my best performance for the final, I've played Marco Welp in
:10:33. > :10:37.the last session but other than that I had two good sessions during the
:10:38. > :10:41.tournament, and apart from that played on my DJ most of the time, so
:10:42. > :10:48.thank God I have had decent the game to fall back on. This is part two of
:10:49. > :10:54.a sporting double for your own town, so will you let them share your open
:10:55. > :10:59.top bus? I didn't get that last time when I want it to years ago, but a
:11:00. > :11:06.small city like ours, to be Premier League champion from last year is a
:11:07. > :11:09.big achievement and I want to say a big thank you and congratulations to
:11:10. > :11:15.Claudio and all the boys at Leicester. I think there is a young
:11:16. > :11:20.lady who is at about to give you a large kiss, daughter Sophia and wife
:11:21. > :11:31.Vicky. Bring them in. Congratulations, Mark.
:11:32. > :11:41.Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome your presentation party, Fred Dutton
:11:42. > :11:48.and six time world champion Steve Davis.
:11:49. > :11:57.The runner-up receiving a cheque for 137,500 pounds and the silver medal,
:11:58. > :12:21.what a run and what a fortnight, Ding Junhui.
:12:22. > :12:32.And the winner, receiving a cheque for ?330,000, the trophy and the
:12:33. > :12:41.title 2016 World Snooker champion, Mark Selby.
:12:42. > :13:01.Once again, your champion, Mark Selby!
:13:02. > :13:08.Still number one and a world champion again. John Parrott has
:13:09. > :13:12.been watching this. It's been hard at times for him to get through and
:13:13. > :13:20.at times he went messy but he shows his metal when the pressure is
:13:21. > :13:24.highest in a final. He is just made of granite, very stern stuff. He's a
:13:25. > :13:30.tremendous competitor, even when he is on his league game it is good
:13:31. > :13:35.enough to give headaches to players and he doesn't waste be shot. There
:13:36. > :13:40.was always a purpose do it, and when he gets his scoring boots on, he's
:13:41. > :13:45.difficult to play against, and when he hasn't he is tremendously
:13:46. > :13:51.difficult to play against. There is Sophia stealing the show. It is
:13:52. > :13:56.Mark's title but in so many ways it was then's championship because of
:13:57. > :14:01.the ways you perform. There was no doubt about, that they are in the
:14:02. > :14:06.best scoring twice was Ding Junhui. Mark wasn't quite there in the
:14:07. > :14:11.scoring department but it goes to show that Mark Selby competes at
:14:12. > :14:18.Ding Junhui comes out with enormous crap. He has the best attitude I
:14:19. > :14:28.have seen in any at he has played in -- enormous crap. -- credit. A great
:14:29. > :14:35.match player and so hard to beat in all departments. Too good and too
:14:36. > :14:41.clever for most people in the game. That break he made in the final
:14:42. > :14:46.frame was pure class. Under the circumstances, he produces his best
:14:47. > :14:51.stuff. And as Mark makes his way around the arena, Ding Junhui has
:14:52. > :14:55.taken his late and Steve, we were talking about the contribution this
:14:56. > :15:01.young fellow from China has made. He was the first layer from mainland
:15:02. > :15:08.China ever to come here and he leads with a huge amount of credit and
:15:09. > :15:12.confidence for the way forward. There's no guarantees you will ever
:15:13. > :15:18.win the World Championship, it gets harder every year, but it inspires
:15:19. > :15:22.another generation to come along and regardless of what happened in this
:15:23. > :15:26.much, I cannot believe when they see how much character he showed they
:15:27. > :15:30.would think this is a failure in any shape or form, they know how good
:15:31. > :15:37.Mark Selby is and it will inspire them. It's a done deal in China,
:15:38. > :15:41.they love the game and there will be a Chinese world champion. It would
:15:42. > :15:47.be lovely if it was Ding Junhui but you never know. Another thing that
:15:48. > :15:51.changed our perspective has been the qualifying process and the fact we
:15:52. > :15:57.had so many knocking out the seeds in the worst and second row, to
:15:58. > :16:00.qualify as getting to the semifinals, will we ever regard that
:16:01. > :16:06.qualifying process with quite the same horror we have before? The two
:16:07. > :16:11.of them were brilliant. Alan McManus had a fantastic tournament and Ding
:16:12. > :16:17.Junhui looked fresh even in the final session here. Mark Selby has
:16:18. > :16:22.had to play for qualifiers to win this title here and it shows you,
:16:23. > :16:28.there we go, the Leicester City flag is out, he is taking his bout and I
:16:29. > :16:35.am sure he will be sharing the open top bus with Leicester City. I was
:16:36. > :16:40.there when he won at the first time and all the fans gave him a
:16:41. > :16:45.fantastic reception and what a fantastic time to have Mark Selby
:16:46. > :16:51.here and Leicester City on the pitch. And a celebration for Mark
:16:52. > :16:56.Selby and his family, overall I would you sum up this championship?
:16:57. > :17:02.It's been a fascinating tournament in so many ways. Not everyone can
:17:03. > :17:06.guarantee the players they want to see at the end get through and it is
:17:07. > :17:12.great to see so many stories can unfold regardless of who is in it. I
:17:13. > :17:16.thought this would be the hardest tournament to win and the hardest
:17:17. > :17:24.man won it. This fellow knows how to win. I hope you have enjoyed it.
:17:25. > :17:28.It's been an eventful 17 days at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. I
:17:29. > :17:34.think all of us need a big break and we're taking a long rest, gentlemen.
:17:35. > :17:38.Thanks, John and Steve and the entire team for your contributions
:17:39. > :17:43.and your company, and thank you to you for your company. We will catch
:17:44. > :17:44.you again sometime soon, but in the meantime from all of us here in
:17:45. > :17:47.Sheffield, good night.
