:00:36. > :00:45.Hello again. 1977 was the year when the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield

:00:46. > :00:49.first hosted the world snooker championship. If you fast forward

:00:50. > :00:54.eight years from that date to 1984, you would find that by that point

:00:55. > :00:58.Steve Davis was the only player to have won the title in Sheffield

:00:59. > :01:04.twice - he had done so in 1981 and 1983. But at that point, neither he

:01:05. > :01:08.nor anybody else for that matter had ever managed to successfully defend

:01:09. > :01:12.the title at the Crucible to win it back-to-back. And here he was in

:01:13. > :01:17.1984 attempting to do just that. In his way was a cocky Londoner,

:01:18. > :01:23.22-year-old whirlwind Jimmy White, appearing in his first Crucible

:01:24. > :01:26.final. And attempting to add that title to the Masters crown that he

:01:27. > :01:34.had won a few short months ago in London. The 84 final - I was in a

:01:35. > :01:37.different frame of mind, or that world championship I was in a

:01:38. > :01:41.different frame of mind. I had regained my championship the

:01:42. > :01:45.previous year so now I was a multiple winner of the world

:01:46. > :01:48.championship and I started to mature as a player, felt more comfortable

:01:49. > :01:52.at the match table than I had done even in 1981 and I was starting to

:01:53. > :01:57.look like I was the dominant force completely within the game. So I had

:01:58. > :02:02.an air of superiority around me walking into that arena. It was

:02:03. > :02:06.starting to become my office. As expected, Steve began strongly. He

:02:07. > :02:09.had been in devastating form that season, after all - he had won six

:02:10. > :02:11.trophies. He took the first frame and he had a wee bit of a slice of

:02:12. > :02:11.trophies. He took the first frame and he had a wee bit of a slice of

:02:12. > :02:21.luck at the top of the second. Steve takes no notice - they all

:02:22. > :03:43.count. Not only was the fluke very

:03:44. > :03:46.disappointing for Jimmy, but he must be wondering with six or seven loose

:03:47. > :03:47.reds now, whether he will be able to win this frame when Steve has

:03:48. > :06:11.finished here. Appears to have finished a little

:06:12. > :06:15.straight on this black here. Won't have an opportunity, I feel, to

:06:16. > :06:17.break the cluster of reds, but will have to play for one of the two

:06:18. > :06:34.loose ones. He started the first frame with a

:06:35. > :06:38.break of 44. This time, it's 50 so far. That's the hand of our referee,

:06:39. > :07:10.Jim Thorpe. REFEREE: 50 to Steve Davis.

:07:11. > :07:29.APPLAUSE REFEREE: Touching ball.

:07:30. > :07:37.That's a very good shot for Jimmy there, for Steve, opening the brown

:07:38. > :07:42.behind the pink, because the ball is obscuring the two reds. With 55

:07:43. > :08:32.points, he will obviously be very pleased with that shot.

:08:33. > :08:38.And some more damage there. It was a very difficult shot that Jimmy had,

:08:39. > :08:42.there, tucked underneath that side cushion. He was forced, really, to

:08:43. > :09:02.have a go at it. But I'm afraid he has done a lot of damage.

:09:03. > :10:03.This black will mean that Jimmy White will need a snooker.

:10:04. > :10:10.Well, I feel that Steve didn't play to kiss the black then, he played to

:10:11. > :10:12.go around the back of the black, and got rather a nice kiss to keep the

:10:13. > :11:09.frame going. APPLAUSE

:11:10. > :11:19.APPLAUSE 26-year-old Steve Davis forged two

:11:20. > :11:21.frames in front. The younger man, Jimmy, didn't really seem to have

:11:22. > :11:27.settled down by this point. He had a chance, though, in frame three.

:11:28. > :11:51.Well, the first red from Jimmy there was quite an amazing shot. Steve had

:11:52. > :11:56.been a little fortunate, even though he played a foul shot, not to leave

:11:57. > :11:58.Jimmy with a better opportunity. But now he seems to have the balls split

:11:59. > :12:48.very nicely. Now, all the spots are occupied, so

:12:49. > :12:57.the green will have to go just near to that cue ball. As near to its own

:12:58. > :13:15.spot as possible. In fact, I think it is on its spot.

:13:16. > :13:20.He didn't play too good a shot on the green but he will be pleased he

:13:21. > :13:26.has been able to hit the cue ball where he wanted. And now he has got

:13:27. > :15:04.back into prime position. Jimmy white -- White, I feel, still

:15:05. > :15:05.not completely settled down. It was a 47 break there, but it should have

:15:06. > :16:01.been more. Well, the main saving grace for

:16:02. > :16:07.Jimmy here will be the red on the left hand side cushion. Steve will

:16:08. > :16:11.have to manipulate the white ball into such a way as to be able to

:16:12. > :17:52.remove that on the some time to win this frame in one visit.

:17:53. > :18:07.Steve has a choice here - he could, if he wished, play to move the red

:18:08. > :18:10.out now. Well, he didn't get the white quite where he played but he

:18:11. > :18:12.certainly got the red out. If he decides to play the black, it's

:18:13. > :18:26.going to be a very, very difficult shot.

:18:27. > :18:34.REFEREE: 37 to Steve Davis. APPLAUSE

:18:35. > :18:53.14 points in it, then, and 43 points left on the table.

:18:54. > :19:21.That was a lovely shot from Jimmy, knowing that if he missed the black

:19:22. > :19:35.he could have lost the frame, he played the shot perfect strength.

:19:36. > :19:45.And the blue means that Steve requires a snooker this time. But

:19:46. > :19:46.Jimmy has snookered himself. 28 points in it, 27 points on the

:19:47. > :20:55.table. Now, Jimmy mustn't miss this. Steve

:20:56. > :21:24.has put the green very near that top pocket.

:21:25. > :21:29.Jimmy purposely played the white ball hard there, just in case he did

:21:30. > :21:35.miss it, but he still left Steve an easy opportunity on the green, I

:21:36. > :22:20.feel. Just wants the five balls now to win the frame.

:22:21. > :23:12.Jimmy appears to be throwing caution to the winds at the moment.

:23:13. > :23:16.It's so pleasing to pinch a frame, but demoralising if you're the

:23:17. > :23:57.opponent. Jimmy White, then, paying for his

:23:58. > :24:03.mistakes and Steve Davis makes it three in a row. Playing Jimmy in the

:24:04. > :24:06.final, even though Jimmy was a younger player, which is always

:24:07. > :24:09.harder to play against, he was still a player that I had not really

:24:10. > :24:19.struggled against in the past, so everybody expected me to overcome a

:24:20. > :24:22.player who was more of a throw caution to the wind, cavalier style,

:24:23. > :24:30.that I would pick him off and do a clinical job on him. The difference

:24:31. > :24:34.now 18 points. Yes, and the worst thing about that shot, Ted, is he's

:24:35. > :24:37.brought the blue out into play. Steve was needing every ball and now

:24:38. > :24:39.this makes it a little bit more easy for him, should he get the

:24:40. > :26:28.opportunity. Could be the chance that Jimmy has

:26:29. > :26:36.been looking for. He's 18 points in front.

:26:37. > :27:00.Hasn't got that beautiful flowing cue action right yet. If there's any

:27:01. > :27:03.consolation at all, I feel it's that the green looks relatively straight.

:27:04. > :27:11.Steve would need to really get into this cue ball to get on the brown.

:27:12. > :27:16.Seems to have acquired the perfect angle to play round the table and

:27:17. > :27:17.finish on to the blue. Would probably be playing the white around

:27:18. > :27:42.three cushions. Hasn't got it quite right. Well,

:27:43. > :27:47.these are the shots, Ted, that either win frames or lose them,

:27:48. > :27:50.should he care to take it on. He's not even attempted the pot -

:27:51. > :28:06.probably a very wise decision in that moment.

:28:07. > :28:38.A terrific roar, then, for Jimmy White as he takes our fourth frame

:28:39. > :28:42.and the two players leave the arena for the interval. Steve Davis

:28:43. > :28:49.leading three frames to one. The rest of the session was quite

:28:50. > :28:53.simply one-way traffic for Davis. 7-1 ahead - that is quite a

:28:54. > :28:57.demoralising margin. Jimmy was trying hard to summon any kind of

:28:58. > :29:07.resistance as we headed now into frame nine.

:29:08. > :29:14.He doesn't like being away from the table for so long. He was quite

:29:15. > :29:17.eager to take that opportunity. It didn't appear as though the ball

:29:18. > :29:47.kicked at all, but it was certainly some distance away from the pot.

:29:48. > :33:10.Davis attempting there to move one of the reds from the side cushion.

:33:11. > :33:13.Steve Davis plays seven frames ahead. He leads by eight frames to

:33:14. > :35:43.one. That was a good shot from Jimmy

:35:44. > :35:45.immediately, potting the black ball off the top cushion and bringing it

:35:46. > :37:49.back into play. Well, he has brought the pink ball

:37:50. > :37:59.free now, disturbed the red that was nestling on it, but this is not an

:38:00. > :38:01.easy pot to the centre. Well, this is more like the Jimmy White we

:38:02. > :38:18.hoped to see in this final. He's very disappointed with that one

:38:19. > :38:24.- with the red over the pocket. It was the ideal opportunity to break

:38:25. > :38:30.into the pack, with the insurance of the red which was already there.

:38:31. > :38:48.Still going, but not a perfect position.

:38:49. > :38:53.Well, there's tremendous cue power there from Jimmy White, the white

:38:54. > :38:56.ball flying around the angles, but not quite in the right direction to

:38:57. > :39:16.get a break on the remaining cluster of reds.

:39:17. > :39:20.So, what's more likely - all mutuals in the snooker world will be glad to

:39:21. > :41:28.see that 61 break by Jimmy White. Well, he's a long way behind in this

:41:29. > :41:31.match, is Jimmy White, at this present stage, but when he starts

:41:32. > :41:38.playing in this kind of form, it makes you think that he could

:41:39. > :41:40.perhaps reel four or five frames off on the trot and be right back in the

:41:41. > :42:50.match. Nine and a half minutes of genius -

:42:51. > :42:55.breaks of 61 and 76 give Jimmy White the tenth frame, but Steve Davis

:42:56. > :42:58.still leads by eight frames to two. That frame was a rare highlight in

:42:59. > :43:05.those early moments for Jimmy White, who had had problems with his cue

:43:06. > :43:09.tip throughout. He finished 12-4 behind and quite frankly things

:43:10. > :43:19.really didn't look that good for him. The late Jim Medecroft, who was

:43:20. > :43:24.a currentater, I said to him, my tip is really hard and I felt my tip and

:43:25. > :43:29.he said it's like a rock so I took my tip off played for about an hour,

:43:30. > :43:34.but for me, that first final, was all about having a new tip. After

:43:35. > :43:38.the first day's play I think I was 12/4 up and that was an understand

:43:39. > :43:44.commaing lead, but then I suffered, as I had done on a couple of

:43:45. > :43:48.occasions, not many but a couple, the loneliness of the long distance

:43:49. > :43:52.runner - I looked over my shoulder. And that night's sleep, even though

:43:53. > :43:54.it should have been a wonderful night's sleep, I started to worry

:43:55. > :44:10.that he would come back at me. Well, that's an event. A completely

:44:11. > :44:14.misjudged safety stroke from the champion and at his previous visit

:44:15. > :44:16.to the table, he attempted a pot, which would only just go, but he

:44:17. > :44:52.missed that as well. Even though Jimmy has played a good

:44:53. > :44:58.shot with the rest there, even with the red up on to the black, it's

:44:59. > :45:01.difficult to get into the black unless he plays the kiss into the

:45:02. > :46:30.red. Decided to play the half ball short and play into the black.

:46:31. > :46:40.A frame-winning opportunity now for White. And with the reds wide open,

:46:41. > :46:41.he must take it, otherwise he would be very vulnerable to a

:46:42. > :48:05.counter-punch. Well, Jimmy has spent a long time in

:48:06. > :48:09.the practice room this morning, had a new tip on yesterday, and seems to

:48:10. > :48:12.have got the weight a little bit better today. Last night, he was

:48:13. > :48:14.sadly out of touch with the new tip. But this will do his confidence no

:48:15. > :49:19.harm at all. Well, Jimmy will be slightly pleased

:49:20. > :49:23.to know that, if he pots this black, Steve Davis will require snookers.

:49:24. > :51:25.There is a chance of seeing a very big break here.

:51:26. > :51:31.Well, White has really showed his character with this break.

:51:32. > :52:02.APPLAUSE Well, he was eight frames down

:52:03. > :52:06.overnight, but no hint of giving in. A really marvellous clearance of 119

:52:07. > :52:13.by Jimmy White and just the start he wanted to this afternoon's session.

:52:14. > :52:14.Still well behind, though - Steve Davis leads by 12 frames to 56789 --

:52:15. > :53:50.5. Steve Davis at the table, making his

:53:51. > :53:52.counter-punch to the break of 37 which took Jimmy White into the

:53:53. > :54:47.lead. Well, this shot's certainly not as

:54:48. > :54:51.easy as Steve would have liked. It's a very straight red with the rest,

:54:52. > :54:55.but probably trying to screw back for a choice of the pink or blue, or

:54:56. > :54:56.alternative running around the two cushions for the pink into the

:54:57. > :55:04.middle pocket. He certainly doesn't fancy either

:55:05. > :55:32.shot at the moment. Well, there wasn't much angle there

:55:33. > :55:36.and Davis was trying to manufacture one. The screw shot was much more

:55:37. > :55:41.difficult with the rest than it would have been with the hand

:55:42. > :55:42.bridge, so he tried to power the cue ball around off two cushions for the

:55:43. > :56:09.pink. Well, it's a frim-winning shot if he

:56:10. > :56:14.attempts the brown - but it could be a frame-winning shot if he misses

:56:15. > :56:39.it. That was a truly excellent pot under pressure.

:56:40. > :57:17.Which means that Davis needs a snooker.

:57:18. > :57:23.So, that should certainly assure Jimmy White of the second frame of

:57:24. > :57:28.the afternoon. And it did - Jimmy, finally, on a roll, or a mini-roll

:57:29. > :57:31.at least and his confidence was surging, more on the point when he

:57:32. > :57:36.took the next as well. Three frames on the spin to trail 7/12. And he

:57:37. > :58:05.had Davis in trouble in frame 20, as well.

:58:06. > :58:13.Well, even though Jimmy has left a pot here, it does help with him

:58:14. > :58:19.being left-handed. I'm sure it will help with his playing to get on to

:58:20. > :58:28.the blue. Yes, I'm sure Steve will be very pleased to see that. Yes, I

:58:29. > :58:33.think White can count himself a little unlucky that he wasn't left a

:58:34. > :58:36.slightly easier red than that. Davis went full-blooded attempting to

:58:37. > :59:23.escape from the snooker, but didn't leave anything easy. Now, from this

:59:24. > :59:31.kind of position I would ordinarily expect Davis to clear up, but

:59:32. > :00:37.there's extra pressure on him to do so now.

:00:38. > :00:52.And is this where White's revival is halted?

:00:53. > :01:31.Steve still requiring the fluke to come back and make the save.

:01:32. > :01:40.A crucial clearance for Davis. He stops his run of three losing frames

:01:41. > :01:47.and leads Jimmy White by 13 frames to 7. Yes, Jimmy really playing with

:01:48. > :01:52.renewed vigour now - he took the next four frames in a row to reduce

:01:53. > :01:57.his arrears to only two, 11/13 behind. But back came Davis, like

:01:58. > :02:08.the true champion he was. Taking three of the next four to lead

:02:09. > :02:15.16/12. It's crampons on again for Jimmy as we rejoin them in frame 29.

:02:16. > :02:19.REFEREE: Foul stroke, four to Jimmy White. Well, he is a little

:02:20. > :02:22.fortunate that he didn't come another foot down the table, or else

:02:23. > :02:55.he would have left a really nice leave.

:02:56. > :02:59.And suddenly two shots and he's opened the frame right up here with

:03:00. > :03:50.quite a good chance. Well, this is difficult, the pink,

:03:51. > :03:56.having to cue over the top of the other balls, making it a very

:03:57. > :03:59.difficult shot. But having so much of the cue over the hand makes it so

:04:00. > :04:23.much more difficult. But it's a good shot.

:04:24. > :04:30.And quite happy to go down for the small fry to try and establish a

:04:31. > :05:44.better position. Tried hard to squeeze that round to

:05:45. > :05:46.get - keep on the pink into the corner. Would have liked to have

:05:47. > :06:13.been a little straighter on this. Well, Jimmy needs one more red after

:06:14. > :06:32.this colour. So just making absolutely sure, now,

:06:33. > :07:03.of the red to leave Steve needing a snooker.

:07:04. > :07:22.So this red should really put it beyond doubt and here we are, again,

:07:23. > :07:23.going to be in a situation of just two frames' difference and he's

:07:24. > :07:32.stirring the fire again. APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

:07:33. > :08:41.And what a delightful shot. Well, he shouldn't have missed it,

:08:42. > :08:44.but not too important. And Steve nods his head and says, "That's

:08:45. > :09:59.enough". That's two frames behind. Steve Davis withstood the onslaught

:10:00. > :10:21.of young Jimmy White this afternoon. REFEREE: 21 to Steve Davis. Well,

:10:22. > :10:26.I'm not sure of the pressure Steve is under at the moment - it's not

:10:27. > :10:40.the kind of shot that we normally expect Steve to miss.

:10:41. > :12:52.Now, that's split the reds over the table - one mistake now... .. He

:12:53. > :13:15.hopes that Steve makes it. Just three frames in it.

:13:16. > :14:39.And that's a bad one from Steve. He's 22 points in front.

:14:40. > :14:43.Carefully played for the plant, I believe. No, red into the centre

:14:44. > :15:25.pocket. The break reaches the half century

:15:26. > :17:38.and he's 28 points in front. Steve wanting a snooker, even before

:17:39. > :18:41.the pink. A terrific performance, then, by

:18:42. > :18:47.young Jimmy White - again, he pulls back a frame and with a break of 72.

:18:48. > :18:51.He's now just two frames behind at 14/16. I effectively came out for

:18:52. > :18:55.the second day's play and asked for Jimmy to come back at me. I didn't

:18:56. > :18:59.play as positively as I should have done. If you could just play as if

:19:00. > :19:04.it was the start of the match, it would be better. And Jimmy did come

:19:05. > :21:16.back - great player. And it got back to relatively level.

:21:17. > :21:20.Jimmy having to work very hard for this break, with the pink and black

:21:21. > :23:12.both being tied up. That's a tremendous shot from Jimmy,

:23:13. > :23:15.a lot of pole right hand side in that shot. And he's got a good

:23:16. > :23:49.chance of clinching this frame here. So just the black and one more red

:23:50. > :24:16.to leave Steve needing snookers. 53 points in front - 59 points on

:24:17. > :24:34.the table. And with that break of 53,

:24:35. > :24:41.incredibly Jimmy moved to one only one frame of Steve Davis's lead,

:24:42. > :24:45.15/16. Remember, he had been 12/4 down overnight - a remarkable

:24:46. > :24:49.performance and the tension levels were creeping ever upwards inside

:24:50. > :24:54.the Crucible, as we rejoin them. And this is a crucial shot Jimmy's

:24:55. > :25:01.taking on here, trying to deep screw back on the baulk end of the table -

:25:02. > :26:24.and a tremendous pot. Certain to leave Steve on, had he missed it.

:26:25. > :26:35.Has Jimmy got the angle now to come on to the pink between these two

:26:36. > :26:43.reds and the black? That puts him two points in front. Wants this

:26:44. > :27:11.frame to make the match all square. Well, he's certainly perfect on the

:27:12. > :27:15.pink to ball behind the red oft left-hand cushion and, being a

:27:16. > :27:18.left-hander, this will suit him. And he won't be too happy with that.

:27:19. > :27:57.Wanted to come away from the cushion a little bit.

:27:58. > :28:14.This is proving to be a very, very hard day for Steve Davis. And

:28:15. > :28:16.there's Jimmy just looking to see what angle he wants to leave on the

:28:17. > :29:18.black to come up for other red. Steve showing the pressure he's

:29:19. > :29:50.under there - hit that much too thick.

:29:51. > :31:06.?200,000 is the prize money in this year's Embassy Snooker World

:31:07. > :31:32.Championship. And it's resting on this final.

:31:33. > :32:00.Steve Davis, then, with just the black to come.

:32:01. > :32:15.APPLAUSE AND CHEERING Takes the frames to 17/15 and Steve

:32:16. > :32:44.Davis requires one frame to retain his world title.

:32:45. > :32:53.That could be a crucial red that Steve has just potted. It gives him

:32:54. > :32:58.a chance to get a few points on the board and, of course, wanting one

:32:59. > :35:42.frame, that's going to put more pressure still on Jimmy.

:35:43. > :35:44.Well, he'll probably hole this red for the pink - won't be taking any

:35:45. > :36:56.chances. With almost Monday not news magic,

:36:57. > :37:18.-- monotonous magic, Steve Davis works towards his goal.

:37:19. > :37:46.Well, I think there's a plant on, just below the pink there. So any

:37:47. > :38:05.colour and one more red to leave Jimmy needing snookers.

:38:06. > :38:16.APPLAUSE Terrific round of applause, then,

:38:17. > :38:17.for Steve. A great effort. Enough balls on the table for Jimmy to take

:38:18. > :39:11.the frame. That's another good shot from Jimmy,

:39:12. > :39:39.moving the red out. Would like it to have gone another inch or two.

:39:40. > :40:08.Well, what a brave shot to play at that speed. Knew he would leave it

:40:09. > :40:27.over the pocket if he missed it. And still needs all the colours to win.

:40:28. > :41:06.Wondering what he has to do to get the one frame. And that's gone just

:41:07. > :41:10.where Jimmy didn't want it. Tight against the cushion - now he's going

:41:11. > :41:29.to have a job to get the white away from the cushion for the pink.

:41:30. > :41:31.A fantastic performance - wait for the applause.

:41:32. > :41:49.APPLAUSE AND CHEERING 17/16, and Steve Davis was one away

:41:50. > :41:53.from becoming the first man ever to successfully defend the world title

:41:54. > :41:56.at the Crucible. But millions upon millions of people were willing

:41:57. > :42:11.Jimmy White to take this one right down to the wire and into a decider.

:42:12. > :44:52.And once again, Steve catches the blue on the break-off.

:44:53. > :46:03.After this black, Jimmy can clear this red from the right-hand corner

:46:04. > :46:14.pocket and make the black pottable in both pockets. And I think we will

:46:15. > :46:16.see Jimmy go into the pack of reds, knowing he will be left on this red

:46:17. > :48:32.into the right-hand corner pocket. And that shot there just shows

:48:33. > :48:35.Jimmy's confidence. Had a nice, easy pink but was the wrong side of it

:48:36. > :48:41.and took a far more difficult brown to come down for this red. And no

:48:42. > :49:34.doubt, I would think now, will try to go into this pack of four.

:49:35. > :49:38.Eight points in it - four reds to go - and Steve right underneath the

:49:39. > :50:20.baulk cushion. Another tremendous shot - this time

:50:21. > :50:48.from Steve - under immense pressure. Has the problem of the red on the

:50:49. > :51:37.cushion there. He will screw back here for the pink

:51:38. > :52:08.but the yellow's only pottable in the green pocket.

:52:09. > :52:47.Steve's 17 in front, but all the colours in the centre of the table,

:52:48. > :53:18.so whoever gets this yellow could win.

:53:19. > :53:27.Well, Jimmy had a go - and I think he may pay the penalty.

:53:28. > :53:38.Great shot. Still needs the green to put himself 22 in front, with 22 on

:53:39. > :54:04.the table, and this isn't easy, at this stage of the match.

:54:05. > :55:38.19 points in it - 25 points on the table.

:55:39. > :56:16.Jimmy White walks quietly back to his chair.

:56:17. > :56:29.He was a long, long away from that one. Yes, he got rather impatient

:56:30. > :56:32.there. And this is probably the best chance Steve's going to have - not

:56:33. > :56:54.an easy green, but, should he get it, must finish on the brown.

:56:55. > :57:12.Jimmy sees the championship now drifting away from him.

:57:13. > :57:35.That great champion - he is achieving what nobody else has done

:57:36. > :57:49.before. APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

:57:50. > :57:52.A great performance, then, by Steve Davis, defending his title and

:57:53. > :57:59.winning it for a second time here at the Crucible Theatre, to win the

:58:00. > :58:06.Embassy World Snooker Championship 1984. I basically just about fell

:58:07. > :58:11.over the line - it was a big shock to the system and I was very

:58:12. > :58:16.relieved to have won the 84 final. I was so confident that I'd win it

:58:17. > :58:21.next year or the year after or the year after - and where are we now?

:58:22. > :58:25.2016! I was so confident, I was OK, I was OK losing. If I didn't change

:58:26. > :58:27.my tip, I think I would have won it. So it was a case of what might have

:58:28. > :58:27.been for So it was a case of what might have

:58:28. > :58:31.been for Jimmy So it was a case of what might have

:58:32. > :58:33.been for Jimmy in the 1984 final. His first Crucible final and the

:58:34. > :58:37.first of many disappointments on that big occasion. As for Steve

:58:38. > :58:41.Davis - well, that win represented a third world title and he would go on

:58:42. > :58:47.to win it a further three more times. In fact, such was his

:58:48. > :58:54.superiority in the 1980s that he appeared in no fewer than 8 of the

:58:55. > :58:56.10 Crucible finals in the 80s - or the Davis era as it has now come to

:58:57. > :59:00.be known.
