0:02:18 > 0:02:19and Freddie Flintoff,

0:02:19 > 0:02:23but it was footballing legend Frank Lampard who faced

0:02:23 > 0:02:25one of the biggest challenges of the night,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27as he went head-to-head with an 11-year-old girl.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41So what's your name?

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Karen. Will this take long?

0:02:44 > 0:02:47Erm, we should be on our way shortly.

0:02:47 > 0:02:48Are you a Chelsea fan?

0:02:48 > 0:02:50No, I hate football.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54I just won this in a competition, and I wanted to be on telly.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59Oh, right.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01Is this an important game?

0:03:01 > 0:03:02Yeah, yeah, it is, yeah.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05And are you feeling confident?

0:03:06 > 0:03:07Yes.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Right.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Frank Lampard? Great!

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Yeah, she's chatting away to him.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27She's chatting to him?

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Yeah.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33Right. Well, maybe keep an eye on that, you know, in case...

0:03:33 > 0:03:36she does that thing that she does.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38Excuse me, excuse me.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Excuse me, your Christine Bleakley, aren't you?

0:03:43 > 0:03:44Yes.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46I'm a massive fan. Could I have an autograph, please?

0:03:48 > 0:03:50To Jake, please. Thank you.

0:03:50 > 0:03:51Hi, I'm Pete.

0:03:51 > 0:03:52Hello.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54- I'm also a big fan. - Thank you.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56- We always voted for you on Strictly. - Oh, thank you.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58Yeah, you and Ann Widdecombe,

0:03:58 > 0:04:01because mum likes seeing Anton use her as a big floor mop.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Could you make one more to Deano, please?

0:04:03 > 0:04:04OK.

0:04:04 > 0:04:05Thank you.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08- So are you here supporting your other half?- I am.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10Oh, Adrian Chiles?

0:04:10 > 0:04:13No, no, Adrian and I work together loads, but no, we're not married.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16Ben, Christine is engaged to Frank Lampard,

0:04:16 > 0:04:17who is a very lucky man, by the way.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19Oh, thank you!

0:04:19 > 0:04:20Well, he's not that lucky.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22That goal against Germany was way over the line.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25Dad called the ref a Nazi stooge.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27I... I didn't.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29Do you want to see him goose-stepping across the room?

0:04:29 > 0:04:30Ben!

0:04:30 > 0:04:32Christine, can I have one more, please?

0:04:32 > 0:04:36All I know is that last weekend I heard my dad shouting that

0:04:36 > 0:04:40you had missed a goal that my granny could have scored.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42We all miss the occasional easy one.

0:04:42 > 0:04:43Well, it must have been really easy,

0:04:43 > 0:04:46because my granny's got a plastic hip.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48But we still won the game.

0:04:48 > 0:04:49And I made both the goals.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52Well, that's nothing to boast about.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54You just need a few bits of wood and a big net.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56- No, no, I didn't... - Anyone can make a goal.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58No, I meant...

0:04:58 > 0:04:59That's just DIY.

0:04:59 > 0:05:00I meant...

0:05:00 > 0:05:03Karen, try not to talk to Mr Lampard too much,

0:05:03 > 0:05:05because he's trying to focus on the big game.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07This is my mum. She fancies you.

0:05:07 > 0:05:08No, I don't!

0:05:08 > 0:05:11- Oh, my God!- Jeez!

0:05:11 > 0:05:13Oh, I'm so sorry. I've got some arnica in here.

0:05:13 > 0:05:14Excuse me, madam?

0:05:14 > 0:05:20I'm sorry, yes. Karen, really, there's a lot of big-game pressure.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Yeah, I know all about big-game pressure.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24I play netball for the school.

0:05:24 > 0:05:25Madam, if you could just return...

0:05:25 > 0:05:27Yes, yes.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36Football's much harder than netball.

0:05:36 > 0:05:38Actually, this is a real coincidence,

0:05:38 > 0:05:40because my daughter is Frank's mascot today.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43Really? She won't forget that in a hurry.

0:05:43 > 0:05:44No.

0:05:44 > 0:05:46And neither will he.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49What's that armband?

0:05:49 > 0:05:50Is it a fashion thing?

0:05:50 > 0:05:52It means I'm captain.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54So you're in charge?

0:05:54 > 0:05:58Does that mean that if you lose, the newspapers will all blame you?

0:05:59 > 0:06:01I bet it does.

0:06:01 > 0:06:03Especially if you miss another easy one.

0:06:04 > 0:06:07They'll probably stick your face on a picture of a vegetable.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11Frank, the ref doesn't have a mascot.

0:06:11 > 0:06:12He does now.

0:06:14 > 0:06:16So you're the ref?

0:06:16 > 0:06:17Erm, yeah.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20And are you feeling confident?

0:06:25 > 0:06:27Backstage of a star-studded tennis tournament,

0:06:27 > 0:06:30Miranda and co were hoping for a love match.

0:06:31 > 0:06:32What could possibly go wrong?

0:06:32 > 0:06:34We're in, we're in!

0:06:34 > 0:06:38Now, act casual. Subtly look around for men.

0:06:38 > 0:06:41Casual. Cas, yeah.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46You're looking very strange.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48Robbie Savage! Robbie Savage!

0:06:48 > 0:06:50All right, cool, cool!

0:06:50 > 0:06:52Hello, hello.

0:06:52 > 0:06:54- I'm Penny.- Hello.

0:06:54 > 0:06:55This is my daughter, Miranda.

0:06:55 > 0:06:57Sorry, I'll just...

0:06:57 > 0:06:58Hello, Miranda. Nice to meet you.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03Oh, Savage!

0:07:03 > 0:07:05Savage!

0:07:05 > 0:07:07Savagio, you can savage me any time!

0:07:08 > 0:07:10What am I doing?

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Ciao, ciao. Ring me!

0:07:16 > 0:07:17It's Mo Farah!

0:07:17 > 0:07:19OK, leave this to me.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21Yo, Mo, hello!

0:07:21 > 0:07:23I'll be fine.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25So, Mo, Mo Farah-ball!

0:07:25 > 0:07:27Mighty Mo.

0:07:28 > 0:07:29Big Mo.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32Mo-jito!

0:07:32 > 0:07:34Mo-na Lisa!

0:07:34 > 0:07:36A-Mo-Mo-a-go-go.

0:07:38 > 0:07:39He's a-gone-gone!

0:07:40 > 0:07:41Why do you have to be my daughter?

0:07:41 > 0:07:44- Well, it's just the way it goes, isn't it?- You're weird!

0:07:45 > 0:07:47Mancini!

0:07:47 > 0:07:49Oh, it's too much!

0:07:51 > 0:07:53- That was Mancini! - Oh!

0:07:53 > 0:07:55- Sssh!- Hey, hey, what's going on over there?

0:07:55 > 0:07:58Come here, come here. Who are you lot? Have you got passes?

0:07:58 > 0:08:03Who are we? Well, that is very rude, for we are... Athletes.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07Yeah. This is...

0:08:07 > 0:08:09IN A RUSSIAN ACCENT: Hello!

0:08:09 > 0:08:13My name is Pavlova. I am a Russian gymnast!

0:08:13 > 0:08:14This is gymnast.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17Hi! Hi! Hi!

0:08:17 > 0:08:19Leave.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22That was gymnast, and I am...

0:08:22 > 0:08:23She's a heavyweight.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25Ah, I thought I recognised you!

0:08:25 > 0:08:28Yes. I am a heavyweight boxer.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32Lifter. I lift heavy boxes and stuff. Yeah, watch me lift.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Come on, then.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40Oh, dear. I think you've been eating too many crisps, Gaz, cos...

0:08:40 > 0:08:41Oh, my back!

0:08:41 > 0:08:43No, come on, who are you, really?

0:08:43 > 0:08:44Sue Barker.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46This is Sue Barker.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48No, I'm Sue Barker.

0:08:48 > 0:08:50THEY GASP

0:08:50 > 0:08:52I don't think so.

0:08:52 > 0:08:53No, this is Sue Barker.

0:08:53 > 0:08:54Yes, I'm Sue Barker.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56No, I AM Sue Barker.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58Well, we've only got your word for that.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01You are not Sue Barker. I don't know who you are. Clearly an impostor.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04She shouldn't be in this VIP room, Gary, she really shouldn't.

0:09:04 > 0:09:07What does she know about tennis? This is Sue Barker.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09Get her out, Gaz. Get her out.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13No, that's Sue Barker.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16Shut up, Torvill! You are skating on very thin ice!

0:09:16 > 0:09:20You may remember from previous Sport Reliefs that the legendary

0:09:20 > 0:09:23David Walliams swam 22 miles across the Channel,

0:09:23 > 0:09:27he has swam the Strait of Gibraltar and taken part in a bike ride

0:09:27 > 0:09:29that stretched from John O'Groats to Land's End.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31All three helped to raise millions,

0:09:31 > 0:09:35an incredible achievement from a true Sport Relief hero.

0:09:35 > 0:09:39So the big question was what could he possibly do to top all that?

0:09:43 > 0:09:46David's challenge was as epic as it was daunting.

0:09:46 > 0:09:50He aimed to swim a gruelling 140 miles down the Thames

0:09:50 > 0:09:53from rural Gloucestershire to central London.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57The first thing that really struck me

0:09:57 > 0:09:59when I jumped was there is no visibility.

0:10:00 > 0:10:04As soon as I jumped in, I was like, "It's black!"

0:10:04 > 0:10:08But the temperature of the water is, what, about 15 degrees.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12You told me, when we started, oh, it's going to be, like, 22,

0:10:12 > 0:10:18or something, in September, and you also said it's almost too hot!

0:10:18 > 0:10:20Aren't you cold?

0:10:20 > 0:10:22I'm quite cold, but sometimes - I'll tell you a little secret -

0:10:22 > 0:10:25I wee in my wetsuit!

0:10:25 > 0:10:26Ah!

0:10:26 > 0:10:29Your body's not designed to do that for ten hours a day.

0:10:29 > 0:10:30Yeah.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33You've done a lot of things your body's not designed to do either.

0:10:33 > 0:10:35To be fair!

0:10:38 > 0:10:41He was never particularly sporty at school, or anything,

0:10:41 > 0:10:42and that's what's amazing.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44To do something like this,

0:10:44 > 0:10:46which is all about just getting through the day

0:10:46 > 0:10:48and seeing what you and your body and your spirit

0:10:48 > 0:10:52and your soul can cope with, it kind of reminds us how the

0:10:52 > 0:10:54people we're raising money for are living.

0:10:54 > 0:10:58You know, because that's how they're living, just getting by.

0:11:01 > 0:11:04Sometimes people write in articles, "Why on earth is he doing it?"

0:11:04 > 0:11:08I know exactly why I'm doing it, because I've seen how the

0:11:08 > 0:11:10money raised through Comic Relief

0:11:10 > 0:11:15and Sport Relief helps people around the world, and the people I've met,

0:11:15 > 0:11:20and especially Philip, a homeless boy in Kenya, that's my motivation.

0:11:20 > 0:11:23There is no other motivation for this.

0:11:26 > 0:11:28You're an amazing little boy.

0:11:30 > 0:11:31Can I have a hug?

0:11:36 > 0:11:37I don't like failing.

0:11:39 > 0:11:40Erm...

0:11:41 > 0:11:43I'm thinking about, you know,

0:11:43 > 0:11:47the people I met in Kenya on the last trip I did for Sport Relief,

0:11:47 > 0:11:52and how the money will help people, and also just don't want to give up.

0:11:53 > 0:11:55You know. I mean, I sort of do.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58If there were no consequences, I could just stop, and no-one

0:11:58 > 0:12:03would mind, I would, but I just feel like I'm really letting people down.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13We asked David to go back to Kenya to see how the little boy

0:12:13 > 0:12:17called Philip who had inspired his epic challenge was getting on.

0:12:18 > 0:12:22The first time I visited here, which is Kisumu, in Kenya,

0:12:22 > 0:12:25it was just before I did my Thames swim.

0:12:25 > 0:12:29We came to make a film about a boy called Philip who was 12 years old

0:12:29 > 0:12:31and who lived on the streets here.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34They slept under this piece of tarpaulin in a central reservation.

0:12:34 > 0:12:38Really, their lives were quite unimaginably harsh.

0:12:40 > 0:12:41Over the years,

0:12:41 > 0:12:44Comic Relief has remained totally committed to helping the

0:12:44 > 0:12:48hundreds of children that are finding themselves homeless on the streets.

0:12:48 > 0:12:53It's never stopped being shocking, but you've never stopped caring.

0:12:53 > 0:12:56Because you are helping kids like them every single day of the year.

0:12:56 > 0:13:00You've fed them, given them an education, and where possible,

0:13:00 > 0:13:03given them somewhere safe to go, away from the streets.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06Essentially, you've given them a chance at a future.

0:13:09 > 0:13:10Hello!

0:13:11 > 0:13:12Is Philip there?

0:13:13 > 0:13:15- Hello!- Hello.

0:13:15 > 0:13:16Hello.

0:13:16 > 0:13:17I've come to see Philip.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19- Yeah, he's around. - Where is he?

0:13:19 > 0:13:20He's gone to the washroom.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22He's gone to the washroom?

0:13:22 > 0:13:23He's here?

0:13:23 > 0:13:25Hello!

0:13:25 > 0:13:27How are you?

0:13:27 > 0:13:30Oh, lovely to see you!

0:13:32 > 0:13:33How have you been?

0:13:34 > 0:13:35Are you OK?

0:32:27 > 0:32:30Continuing this year's watery theme,

0:32:30 > 0:32:34it was Frank Skinner's turn to indulge in some aquatic antics,

0:32:34 > 0:32:37swimming one 25-metre length of a swimming pool.

0:32:37 > 0:32:40Well, he was facing up to his lifelong fear of water,

0:32:40 > 0:32:42so it was nothing short of heroic.

0:32:43 > 0:32:46I'm frightened of the water,

0:32:46 > 0:32:49and everything else is a periphery concern.

0:32:53 > 0:32:55I can smell the chlorine now.

0:32:55 > 0:32:56That, erm...

0:32:58 > 0:33:00You know there's supposed to be a smell of fear?

0:33:00 > 0:33:02That's kind of what I associate it with.

0:33:03 > 0:33:05Oh, it looks...

0:33:05 > 0:33:06I am actually getting the...

0:33:08 > 0:33:09Hmmm.

0:33:09 > 0:33:12I think it's amazing that you're doing it, because there's

0:33:12 > 0:33:16so many adults out there that can't swim, so it is very brave of you.

0:33:16 > 0:33:17If you teach me to swim, Karen,

0:33:17 > 0:33:22you will have done something which I gave up on at some point in my

0:33:22 > 0:33:26life, and just thought, "I simply will never be able to do this."

0:33:30 > 0:33:34I was anxious, but I didn't have one of my moments

0:33:34 > 0:33:37where I really lose it, so that's a victory.

0:33:39 > 0:33:40Nearly.

0:33:40 > 0:33:41I touched it!

0:33:41 > 0:33:43You did, you're getting there, mate.

0:33:43 > 0:33:48I'm coming to lesson two, so that's what I was really hoping for!

0:33:52 > 0:33:55No-one asked me, "Are you ready to transfer to the big pool?"

0:33:55 > 0:33:57It looks very big.

0:33:59 > 0:34:02And like many people might have died in it.

0:34:04 > 0:34:07With three weeks of swimming under his belt,

0:34:07 > 0:34:09it's Frank's breathing that's making him panic.

0:34:11 > 0:34:13I need to know that I can put my feet down at any time,

0:34:13 > 0:34:17if I do take my feet up, if I'm floating a bit.

0:34:17 > 0:34:18Get over this whole breathing issue.

0:34:18 > 0:34:20I'm trying to get over it!

0:34:20 > 0:34:22I know you are, listen to what I'm telling you, then.

0:34:22 > 0:34:24I am listening!

0:34:24 > 0:34:27OK. If a little bit of water goes in, don't worry about it.

0:34:27 > 0:34:28I know.

0:34:28 > 0:34:31It's the first time for a few weeks that I've thought

0:34:31 > 0:34:33maybe I can't do this, after all.

0:34:33 > 0:34:36When you first started, that would have been in your mind every day.

0:34:36 > 0:34:38It's going to be tight. I might do it, I might not.

0:34:40 > 0:34:41If someone said to me,

0:34:41 > 0:34:44"Do you think you'll be able to swim a length on March 23rd?"

0:34:46 > 0:34:51And I'd have gone to my head, I'd say no, I won't be able to.

0:34:55 > 0:34:58Welcome to this very special Sport Relief challenge,

0:34:58 > 0:35:00where we are hopefully, and I mean hopefully,

0:35:00 > 0:35:03going to see Frank Skinner swim the 25 metres of this pool.

0:35:03 > 0:35:05He is terrified.

0:35:05 > 0:35:08Please welcome Frank Skinner and Team Skinner!

0:35:13 > 0:35:14How are you doing?

0:35:14 > 0:35:16I'm...

0:35:16 > 0:35:17You are actually shaking.

0:35:17 > 0:35:21Yes, I am a little nervous, I think it's true to say.

0:35:21 > 0:35:22Do you think you're going to do this?

0:35:22 > 0:35:23I'm going to try my best.

0:35:23 > 0:35:26I don't know if I'm going to do it or not, to be honest with you.

0:35:26 > 0:35:27Take your time.

0:35:27 > 0:35:29Thank you very much. Cheers, thank you.

0:35:33 > 0:35:34You can do it.

0:35:34 > 0:35:35All right?

0:35:35 > 0:35:37Make me proud.

0:35:38 > 0:35:40Right, come on.

0:35:46 > 0:35:49On your marks, get set, go!

0:35:54 > 0:35:56Good start. Good leg kick.

0:36:05 > 0:36:07He needs to keep the leg kick going and just stay relaxed.

0:36:07 > 0:36:09His back end starts to sink, doesn't it?

0:36:09 > 0:36:12It does start to sink, and that's about keeping those legs going,

0:36:12 > 0:36:16keeping that arm going out in front, staying relaxed.

0:36:16 > 0:36:20When he starts to get nervous, his arm starts going a bit quick.

0:36:20 > 0:36:21Is this a worrying time?

0:36:21 > 0:36:22This is the worrying time,

0:36:22 > 0:36:25when his right arm starts to sink under the water.

0:36:25 > 0:36:27He needs to really get that arm out of the water.

0:36:27 > 0:36:32Stretching out. That's better. He's getting his arm out better.

0:36:32 > 0:36:33Come on, Frank.

0:36:33 > 0:36:35Come on, Frank!

0:37:12 > 0:37:15But you've got to go a little further

0:37:15 > 0:37:18if you want to compete with the likes of a certain Miss Skelton.

0:37:18 > 0:37:21I don't believe that finally we're here in Antarctica.

0:37:24 > 0:37:27She was the first woman to kayak solo down the Amazon.

0:38:09 > 0:38:11their challenge begins.

0:38:16 > 0:38:18But after just a matter of minutes,

0:38:20 > 0:38:22pulling all their essential equipment,

0:38:22 > 0:38:26is going to be a whole lot harder and slower than they ever feared.

0:38:26 > 0:38:30Their speed is about 2mph, and even that's agony.

0:44:37 > 0:44:38It was physical poetry!

0:44:42 > 0:44:43Gravy, baby!

0:44:45 > 0:44:46West End hit!

0:44:48 > 0:44:50You have made my Saturday night a fever!

0:44:52 > 0:44:54Your support over the years has helped us

0:44:54 > 0:44:57really change lives here in the UK and all over the world.

0:44:59 > 0:45:02David Walliams went to Kenya to find out how your money is being

0:45:02 > 0:45:05used to help people who really need it.

0:45:05 > 0:45:07Your money paid for all this.

0:45:07 > 0:45:11This is a cold room where all the vaccines in this area are kept.

0:45:11 > 0:45:14There are lots of preventable diseases.

0:45:14 > 0:45:16We take these vaccines for granted in the UK,

0:45:16 > 0:45:19but your money has generously paid for them,

0:45:19 > 0:45:24and just a little vial like this can save a child's life.

0:45:25 > 0:45:29So, the vaccines are put in special cool boxes,

0:45:29 > 0:45:32and then they're taken out to remote clinics.

0:45:32 > 0:45:37Your money is helping stop children dying. What better news do you want?

0:45:42 > 0:45:44Baby.

0:45:44 > 0:45:45It's the most fantastic thing.

0:45:45 > 0:45:48You can see how welcome it is in this community.

0:45:48 > 0:45:52They reach about 20,000 children in this area.

0:45:52 > 0:45:54This is a real no-brainer,

0:45:54 > 0:45:57because this is preventing children from dying.

0:45:58 > 0:46:01So Derek has been protected from six potentially deadly diseases?

0:46:01 > 0:46:03Yes.

0:46:03 > 0:46:05That's fantastic.

0:46:05 > 0:46:07He didn't enjoy it, did he?

0:46:07 > 0:46:09It's never enjoyable.

0:46:09 > 0:46:12It's never enjoyable, is it? No, I don't like having injections either.

0:46:12 > 0:46:15We just saw Derek, who's only three months old,

0:46:15 > 0:46:18getting injected against six deadly diseases.

0:46:18 > 0:46:20It may very well save his life.

0:46:21 > 0:46:25It is an ongoing thing, you know. We can't get complacent.

0:46:25 > 0:46:27We've got to keep on raising money so that the next generation

0:46:27 > 0:46:30of children can have their vaccines, too.

0:46:32 > 0:46:35When John Bishop said he was going to do something special

0:46:35 > 0:46:38for this year's Sport Relief, we thought it might be

0:46:38 > 0:46:42a gruelling marathon, an exhausting bike ride or maybe a punishing row.

0:46:43 > 0:46:46No-one quite expected it would be all three in one week of hell.

0:46:49 > 0:46:53The challenge came about from James Corden's suggestion that me

0:46:53 > 0:46:57and him should do something for Sport Relief, so we were all systems go,

0:46:57 > 0:47:02and then James obviously ended up, his play Two Men and One Guvnor

0:47:02 > 0:47:05ended up becoming ballistic,

0:47:05 > 0:47:07and getting a run on Broadway,

0:47:07 > 0:47:09so he went and did the Broadway run,

0:47:09 > 0:47:12and I did the challenge, although every time

0:47:12 > 0:47:17I ever mention this story, he keeps reminding me that he did get a Tony,

0:47:17 > 0:47:20so he not only did the Broadway run, but he became a star on Broadway.

0:47:20 > 0:47:22Whereas I nearly killed myself.

0:47:22 > 0:47:23Ah!

0:47:23 > 0:47:25Who's the winner here?

0:47:25 > 0:47:29John's putting himself through this to raise money to help save lives.

0:47:32 > 0:47:35Sport Relief asked him to go to Sierra Leone in West Africa

0:47:35 > 0:47:38to see how the money he's raising will make a difference.

0:47:38 > 0:47:42He met a little girl who'd also love things to change.

0:47:42 > 0:47:45Kariatu lives in one of Sierra Leone's biggest slums,

0:47:45 > 0:47:48home to 11,000 people.

0:47:48 > 0:47:51There is a little step for every human being between being

0:47:51 > 0:47:56in the situation you're in and being happy, and that's what struck me.

0:47:56 > 0:47:59I didn't go somewhere and find a world full of misery.

0:47:59 > 0:48:03They laugh as often as we laugh. They smile as often as we smile.

0:48:03 > 0:48:06Their level of happiness is as close to ours,

0:48:06 > 0:48:11and yet they're doing it in situations that would probably

0:48:11 > 0:48:14break most of us, because we haven't been exposed to it.

0:48:14 > 0:48:19I was almost expecting to be in an environment where they're all

0:48:19 > 0:48:21walking around going, "Oh, what are we going to do?"

0:48:21 > 0:48:23And it wasn't like that at all.

0:48:23 > 0:48:26What do you want to be when you grow up?

0:48:26 > 0:48:27- Lawyer.- A lawyer?

0:48:27 > 0:48:29You want to be a lawyer?

0:48:30 > 0:48:32You're amazing.

0:48:32 > 0:48:35So inventive, so driven, and also

0:48:35 > 0:48:38so optimistic for the future,

0:48:38 > 0:48:41and that's a lesson that I took from them, really.

0:48:44 > 0:48:49Well, on the day that I actually went to Paris, Liverpool played

0:48:49 > 0:48:54Cardiff in the Carling Cup final, and I almost felt like giving up

0:48:54 > 0:48:57when Cardiff took the lead!

0:48:59 > 0:49:02I'm anxious to get going, to be honest.

0:49:02 > 0:49:05I've got to make sure that I don't fail,

0:49:05 > 0:49:08and up in the corner crying and sucking my thumb.

0:49:08 > 0:49:10Which I feel like doing!

0:49:10 > 0:49:12Listen, John, are you ready?

0:49:12 > 0:49:13I'm ready.

0:49:13 > 0:49:19Your week of hell for Sport Relief starts in five, four, three,

0:49:19 > 0:49:21two, one.

0:49:21 > 0:49:23Go on, John!

0:49:25 > 0:49:29The time right now is 6:10. We're halfway.

0:49:29 > 0:49:31We set off at nine o'clock this morning,

0:49:31 > 0:49:33just to put that into context,

0:49:33 > 0:49:37so we've got to do the same again, plus probably some time as he slows.

0:49:37 > 0:49:39We're looking at 2am at best.

0:49:39 > 0:49:42He's got to be up at 6am in the morning to get in a boat

0:49:42 > 0:49:45and row across the Channel.

0:49:45 > 0:49:48I have massively underestimated this. Massively.

0:49:52 > 0:49:54We were in a six-man rowing boat, and there was myself,

0:49:54 > 0:49:58Freddie Flintoff, Denise Lewis and Davina McCall,

0:49:58 > 0:50:02and Mike, who was our cox, who was egging us on.

0:50:02 > 0:50:04Let's get this show on the road!

0:50:04 > 0:50:08Stand by to give way, and go.

0:50:08 > 0:50:09Whooo!

0:50:12 > 0:50:18If it wasn't for those three rowers, I couldn't have done it.

0:50:18 > 0:50:23The strength within those three, particularly when I was flagging.

0:50:23 > 0:50:25We're now six miles in.

0:50:25 > 0:50:28Obviously, the one I'm really worried about is John.

0:50:28 > 0:50:30One hour's sleep, and he's now in the boat.

0:50:30 > 0:50:33I think we might have already broken him.

0:50:33 > 0:50:34JB, how are you feeling?

0:50:34 > 0:50:36I'm hallucinating!

0:50:36 > 0:50:37I'm not surprised.

0:50:37 > 0:50:39I'm talking to a dolphin!

0:50:42 > 0:50:45There was a point on the row where I literally was,

0:50:45 > 0:50:49I was so exhausted that I was seeing double.

0:50:49 > 0:50:52And the hardest thing about rowing

0:50:52 > 0:50:55when you're seeing double is that you naturally look where your oar is

0:50:55 > 0:50:57to put it in the water,

0:50:57 > 0:51:00and I kept on looking at the wrong one, so my oar was going round,

0:51:00 > 0:51:03and I was thinking, "Why is it not going in the water?"

0:51:03 > 0:51:05And then you sort of go,

0:51:05 > 0:51:07"Where am I?" And kind of dozing in and out of sleep,

0:51:07 > 0:51:10and you look forward, and Freddie Flintoff's bent over in front of you,

0:51:10 > 0:51:14and you think, "No, I'm having a dream. Surely I'm having a dream!"

0:51:14 > 0:51:17And then you just realise you're in the middle of the Channel.

0:51:17 > 0:51:18Going to try and give him some drugs.

0:51:18 > 0:51:20See if that's going to work for him.

0:51:20 > 0:51:22Going to try and up his energy levels.

0:51:22 > 0:51:25We got some supplies off the medical boat, which I don't know what

0:51:25 > 0:51:28they were, but within ten minutes I was perfect again!

0:51:31 > 0:51:34# I learned how to get along

0:51:34 > 0:51:35# And you see me

0:51:35 > 0:51:37# Somebody new

0:51:38 > 0:51:42# I'm not that chained up Little person still in love with you

0:51:42 > 0:51:46# And so you felt like dropping in And just expect me to be free

0:51:46 > 0:51:51# But now I'm saving all my loving For someone who's loving me

0:51:51 > 0:51:53Ugh!

0:51:53 > 0:51:55Nearly there.

0:51:55 > 0:51:56CHEERING

0:51:56 > 0:51:57I can hear cheers!

0:52:00 > 0:52:03Whooo!

0:52:03 > 0:52:05Doing this has been very humbling, really,

0:52:05 > 0:52:10because all the training and all the build-up was quite lonely,

0:52:10 > 0:52:14because you're not sure if anything is going to happen,

0:52:14 > 0:52:17and if anyone's bothered, and you keep on setting a realistic

0:52:17 > 0:52:23target, so it doesn't get mixed up in people's minds about what is

0:52:23 > 0:52:28success, because at the end of the day, any money raised is a success.

0:52:28 > 0:52:30I don't know how he did the last bit.

0:52:31 > 0:52:32He's amazing. He really is.

0:52:32 > 0:52:35I can't believe he's got to go and do three marathons now.

0:52:35 > 0:52:37HORN BLOWS

0:52:43 > 0:52:45The following day, when I started running

0:52:45 > 0:52:48and I was with Comedy Dave from Radio One,

0:52:48 > 0:52:53and people were beeping their horn, I thought we were in people's way.

0:52:53 > 0:52:54HORN BEEPS

0:52:54 > 0:52:55Cheers, mate!

0:52:57 > 0:52:59This will be harder doing that all day!

0:52:59 > 0:53:02Shoulders are going to be knackered!

0:53:02 > 0:53:04I was looking around thinking, "What are you beeping at me for?

0:53:04 > 0:53:06"I'm on the path!"

0:53:06 > 0:53:10And then people were waving, and I thought, "God, everyone knows!"

0:53:10 > 0:53:13This is so much bigger than me, and so much bigger than I thought it

0:53:13 > 0:53:21was going to be, and that's when it really struck me that you can't stop.

0:53:21 > 0:53:24You can't let anyone down.

0:53:24 > 0:53:25- Whatever you do... - Oh!

0:53:25 > 0:53:27- Are you OK?- Yeah.

0:53:27 > 0:53:29- Are you sure?- Yeah.

0:53:29 > 0:53:30I thought it was all over, then.

0:53:31 > 0:53:34Go on, John!

0:53:34 > 0:53:37See, that's what's good about Sport Relief.

0:53:37 > 0:53:40That's the most exercise she's done in a number of years!

0:53:40 > 0:53:41Ha-ha-ha!

0:53:41 > 0:53:46I think I underestimated the time associated with each of the legs,

0:53:46 > 0:53:53and I underestimated also just what happens to you physically.

0:53:53 > 0:53:56Things hurt and all the rest of it, and you can get through all of that.

0:53:56 > 0:54:00It's just having to do it the following day,

0:54:00 > 0:54:04and the biggest thing, without a shadow of a doubt,

0:54:04 > 0:54:09is the weight of expectation, because this became so much bigger than

0:54:09 > 0:54:15I thought it would be in terms of the support and the public awareness.

0:54:19 > 0:54:22He's fantastic, he's doing an amazing job,

0:54:22 > 0:54:25and we've got all behind him, and we love him.

0:54:25 > 0:54:26HORN BLOWS

0:54:26 > 0:54:31From my point of view, when it all came out, the level of support

0:54:31 > 0:54:35that people had put forward, it says everything about the British people.

0:54:35 > 0:54:40As a nation, we sometimes undervalue who we are.

0:54:40 > 0:54:44We are the biggest charity nation in the world for a reason,

0:54:44 > 0:54:47and that's because we have the best people in the world.

0:54:53 > 0:54:55We are the biggest moaners on the planet,

0:54:55 > 0:54:56and I think we're the biggest moaners,

0:54:56 > 0:55:00because in many respects, we pretend

0:55:00 > 0:55:02that we're emotionally stifled.

0:55:02 > 0:55:04We're not.

0:55:04 > 0:55:08You've just got to prick an Englishman's skin a little bit,

0:55:08 > 0:55:10and out comes a flood of love.

0:55:12 > 0:55:15The measure of success of the challenge that I did is

0:55:15 > 0:55:20measured in the fact that people picked up their phones and texted.

0:55:20 > 0:55:24It's measured in the fact that people sent the money in.

0:55:24 > 0:55:28It's measured in the fact that, last week, genuinely last week,

0:55:28 > 0:55:31a bloke stopped me at the garage when I was walking out and said,

0:55:31 > 0:55:33"I saw your thing. Here's five pounds."

0:55:33 > 0:55:36I went, "Mate, it was months ago."

0:55:36 > 0:55:39He said, "No, but I always promised if I ever saw you,

0:55:39 > 0:55:42"I'd give you what was in my pocket."

0:55:42 > 0:55:43And...

0:55:47 > 0:55:51Stuff like that really, that affects you. It does.

0:55:51 > 0:55:54You just think, "God, I...

0:55:57 > 0:56:01I've got to be honest with you, I've not really spoken about it.

0:56:01 > 0:56:04And I haven't spoken about it, because in many respects,

0:56:04 > 0:56:10it's closer to me than I thought it would be, and bigger than me,

0:56:10 > 0:56:14and when people respond to you that way...

0:56:16 > 0:56:21You really get a sense of, no matter what happens now,

0:56:21 > 0:56:26I'll never do anything that was as worthwhile.

0:56:26 > 0:56:31And that's very, very humbling.

0:56:53 > 0:56:56I just want to thank everyone who donated to Sport Relief,

0:56:56 > 0:56:58all the participants in the Sport Relief mile,

0:56:58 > 0:57:01everyone who came up with their own challenges,

0:57:01 > 0:57:05and everybody who found the time in their day to stop,

0:57:05 > 0:57:08text and send a message of hope to someone you've never met.

0:57:08 > 0:57:10Thank you.

0:57:13 > 0:57:14John Bishop, everybody!

0:57:17 > 0:57:21John's challenge raised over £4 million for Sport Relief.

0:57:21 > 0:57:23What a great achievement.

0:57:23 > 0:57:25All that's left to say now is a massive thank you to everyone

0:57:25 > 0:57:29who took part or donated to Sport Relief 2012.

0:57:29 > 0:57:34Your money and support really is helping to change lives everyday.

0:57:34 > 0:57:36You really have done yourselves proud.

0:57:36 > 0:57:38MUSIC: "Proud" by JLS

0:57:38 > 0:57:41# Well, the shape of my heart Don't lie

0:57:41 > 0:57:43# I'm determined when you trust in me

0:57:45 > 0:57:49# It's all I need

0:57:49 > 0:57:52# Now I'm hoping

0:57:52 > 0:57:55# If you hear this

0:57:55 > 0:58:00# You believe that all that I do is to make you proud

0:58:00 > 0:58:03# Make me stronger

0:58:03 > 0:58:05# So I rise up

0:58:05 > 0:58:08# Made my mind up

0:58:08 > 0:58:12# All that I do is to make you proud

0:58:12 > 0:58:14# Proud, proud, make you

0:58:14 > 0:58:16# Proud, proud, make you

0:58:16 > 0:58:18# Proud, proud

0:58:18 > 0:58:22# All that I do is to make you proud. #

0:58:22 > 0:58:26Hi, it's me again. In 2013 it's Red Nose Day.

0:58:26 > 0:58:28It's going to be bigger and better than ever.

0:58:28 > 0:58:32Get a red nose, put it on your face and do something stupid.

0:58:32 > 0:58:36If you want to do something stupid without a red nose, do it,

0:58:36 > 0:58:40but please do it on March 15th, and then you might get money for it.

0:58:40 > 0:58:42If you do something stupid any other time,

0:58:42 > 0:58:46you're likely to get arrested, and if you do, it's your own fault.
