0:00:09 > 0:00:11Suicide is really cruel,
0:00:11 > 0:00:14because you feel like there is so much
0:00:14 > 0:00:15you SHOULD have been able to do.
0:00:17 > 0:00:18Oh!
0:00:18 > 0:00:21Someone said to me, "There will come a time
0:00:21 > 0:00:24"when you can remember the love and the laughter,
0:00:24 > 0:00:26"and not so much the pain."
0:00:28 > 0:00:31Billy will always be in my heart, you know? Always.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33He's there, he's with me.
0:00:36 > 0:00:38If one person watched this,
0:00:38 > 0:00:42if one family was saved from going through that terrible loss,
0:00:42 > 0:00:45it would be worth it, you know? It would...
0:00:47 > 0:00:49It would be worth, you know, all of it.
0:00:52 > 0:00:57Zoe Ball lost her partner, Billy, to suicide.
0:01:00 > 0:01:03After one of the toughest years of her life,
0:01:03 > 0:01:06Zoe is taking on an epic solo challenge...
0:01:11 > 0:01:13..to raise money for Sport Relief...
0:01:16 > 0:01:18..to understand more about mental health...
0:01:20 > 0:01:22..and get people talking about it.
0:01:22 > 0:01:24It can be a very isolating experience,
0:01:24 > 0:01:27and you kind of feel, like, when you're going through it,
0:01:27 > 0:01:28that no-one understands.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30We look after our heart, our lungs -
0:01:30 > 0:01:33we need to be looking after our minds, as well.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36Men need to be a bit more chatty, like women.
0:01:36 > 0:01:38Just want to sort of almost, like, tear it from yourself
0:01:38 > 0:01:41and just put it inside someone else, just to say,
0:01:41 > 0:01:44- "There you go."- That's how it feels. - "It's not that nice, is it?"
0:01:44 > 0:01:49Zoe will cycle 355 miles across the country...
0:01:49 > 0:01:51Look, in the heart of Liverpool...
0:01:53 > 0:01:56..and along the way, she'll meet other people,
0:01:56 > 0:02:00to find out what impact suicide and depression have had on their lives.
0:02:00 > 0:02:02Did you have any idea?
0:02:02 > 0:02:04No idea at all?
0:02:05 > 0:02:08- Just didn't know.- No. - Just didn't know it was coming.
0:02:08 > 0:02:12OK, I'll keep going. I can't go...
0:02:12 > 0:02:14I want to be challenged.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17I want to get some answers, I want to find some hope
0:02:17 > 0:02:19and some positivity.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22Oh, God, that pain is hideous.
0:02:22 > 0:02:23Oh!
0:02:41 > 0:02:44The reason I'm doing this is for Billy.
0:02:44 > 0:02:48For people living with what he's gone through, for families,
0:02:48 > 0:02:50for loved ones going through this.
0:02:53 > 0:02:54From the first time they met,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57Zoe felt a deep connection to Billy Yates...
0:02:59 > 0:03:00He was the life and soul of a room.
0:03:00 > 0:03:03If he was on the crew when you were working on a show,
0:03:03 > 0:03:05everyone would be like, "Billy's here! Brilliant."
0:03:08 > 0:03:12He was such an intelligent man - he was really well-read.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14You know, he read all the philosophers,
0:03:14 > 0:03:18he had a real scientific mind, and, I mean, he would wow me.
0:03:18 > 0:03:22I would be lost in, you know, the stuff that he knew.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26..but only a few months into their relationship,
0:03:26 > 0:03:30the depression that Billy had struggled with for years returned.
0:03:31 > 0:03:35There were days where he could get up and he could get to work,
0:03:35 > 0:03:37he could sort of get through,
0:03:37 > 0:03:41but there were days where the only way to stop it
0:03:41 > 0:03:44was for him to just get back into bed
0:03:44 > 0:03:45and pull the covers over his head
0:03:45 > 0:03:47and hope that he could sleep through
0:03:47 > 0:03:49and wake up a little bit stronger later,
0:03:49 > 0:03:51and I think that's the thing,
0:03:51 > 0:03:53when you see the two sides of someone, you know,
0:03:53 > 0:03:55someone so strong, someone so clever,
0:03:55 > 0:04:00someone so full of love, yet struggling with this disease
0:04:00 > 0:04:05that was crippling him and taking him into a darker and darker place.
0:04:05 > 0:04:11Tragically... Billy took his own life.
0:04:11 > 0:04:16To do something for him, a beautiful, beautiful, loving man,
0:04:16 > 0:04:20whose life ended way too soon, you know?
0:04:20 > 0:04:23To do something for him, to be able to do something, is...
0:04:24 > 0:04:25..is a real special thing,
0:04:25 > 0:04:29and I feel really lucky to have that chance,
0:04:29 > 0:04:30so, I'm going to do my best -
0:04:30 > 0:04:32I think I'm going to have to dig very, very deep,
0:04:32 > 0:04:34it's going to be very, very emotional,
0:04:34 > 0:04:38but I'm also hoping to find some answers along the way.
0:04:40 > 0:04:44Zoe will attempt to cycle from Blackpool, where she was born,
0:04:44 > 0:04:49355 miles to her beloved hometown of Brighton.
0:04:51 > 0:04:58I have never put my body through any extreme exercise, ever.
0:04:58 > 0:05:02It's Olympian and professor of sports science Greg Whyte
0:05:02 > 0:05:05who's getting her up to speed.
0:05:05 > 0:05:08We've hit day one of training, and it is heavily raining,
0:05:08 > 0:05:10but, you know, this is exactly what Zoe has got to expect.
0:05:10 > 0:05:14It is going to be tough, the conditions add to the misery
0:05:14 > 0:05:17of actually cycling such a long distance,
0:05:17 > 0:05:20and, for Zoe, having never been on a road bike before,
0:05:20 > 0:05:22it is going to be tough.
0:05:22 > 0:05:24SHE GASPS
0:05:24 > 0:05:26I'd love to say loads of technical things about this bike -
0:05:26 > 0:05:29- I have no idea. Lights.- Lights. - Beautiful.- That's a start.
0:05:29 > 0:05:30Red for danger.
0:05:30 > 0:05:32THEY LAUGH
0:05:32 > 0:05:33As in, "Get out of the way,
0:05:33 > 0:05:36- "this woman has no clue what she's doing!"- "Stay back!"
0:05:38 > 0:05:39Blimey!
0:05:39 > 0:05:41Just before I go, where are the brakes?
0:05:41 > 0:05:43GREG LAUGHS
0:05:45 > 0:05:47I kind of know how huge it is,
0:05:47 > 0:05:51but I don't think I can really sort of fathom
0:05:51 > 0:05:53how huge a challenge it is yet.
0:05:53 > 0:05:55- We're going to push off, push down. - Push off...
0:05:55 > 0:05:57- Push down, push down. - Push down.- Give it some speed.- OK.
0:05:57 > 0:05:59- OK, good.- OK...
0:05:59 > 0:06:03Taking on a cycle challenge to raise awareness for mental health
0:06:03 > 0:06:06has a special significance for Zoe, after Billy.
0:06:07 > 0:06:10He cycled his bike to and from work every day.
0:06:10 > 0:06:12Sometimes he'd do 40 miles -
0:06:12 > 0:06:16but I think the real moment that I could see, suddenly,
0:06:16 > 0:06:19it was like, "Oh, my goodness, I think I understand,"
0:06:19 > 0:06:26was where he said, "Zo, I feel like I've forgotten how to ride my bike."
0:06:26 > 0:06:32You know, he couldn't ride his bike, he doubted that he could...
0:06:33 > 0:06:35..do something that he'd done his whole life,
0:06:35 > 0:06:37since he was a little boy.
0:06:37 > 0:06:39Just this, you know,
0:06:39 > 0:06:44made him doubt that he could even ride his bike - and that really...
0:06:47 > 0:06:49..that really stayed with me.
0:06:52 > 0:06:55Definitely waterproof mascara.
0:06:55 > 0:06:58- Yes.- Cos you're cycling into it. - I hadn't even thought of that.
0:06:58 > 0:06:59- How I'm going to look.- Oh...!
0:06:59 > 0:07:01I'm going to have helmet hair, it's going to be horrific.
0:07:01 > 0:07:06I'm going to be wearing Lycra, and I'm going to have a padded bottom,
0:07:06 > 0:07:07so, I think, you know...
0:07:07 > 0:07:10Well, welcome to the world of padded bottoms.
0:07:10 > 0:07:11I've got my own padding!
0:07:18 > 0:07:20I knew, with this experience,
0:07:20 > 0:07:22she would want to try and move forward
0:07:22 > 0:07:26and help other people who might be facing the same thing,
0:07:26 > 0:07:29whether it's families - cos this does have a ripple effect.
0:07:29 > 0:07:31So, she's going to be quite determined
0:07:31 > 0:07:34that something very positive will come out of this.
0:07:37 > 0:07:40It is so tough. When you have little moments of thinking, "OK," you know?
0:07:40 > 0:07:44"All right..." You're sort of making improvements
0:07:44 > 0:07:48and you're getting a bit stronger, and then you think about how far,
0:07:48 > 0:07:51and it all comes crashing down to reality.
0:07:55 > 0:07:58There's a lot of emotions in this whole challenge.
0:07:58 > 0:08:01Yeah. Sometimes you've just got to take a little moment,
0:08:01 > 0:08:03have a little cry, let it out, you know?
0:08:07 > 0:08:09That's it for now, I'm back with more in an hour.
0:08:09 > 0:08:12- Now, Miss Ball...- How are you, Sal? - How is the training going?
0:08:12 > 0:08:13Oh... You know what?
0:08:13 > 0:08:17You even bringing the subject up, it makes my tummy flip with nerves!
0:08:17 > 0:08:19I'm really scared, I'm really scared.
0:08:19 > 0:08:21What's the longest that you've cycled so far?
0:08:21 > 0:08:25I did 54 miles - I did, like, a 30, then a 37, then a 54,
0:08:25 > 0:08:28- and then followed it with a 20. - But you're a fit girl.
0:08:28 > 0:08:31You are a fit girl. You know, you've got a lot of energy and stamina.
0:08:31 > 0:08:34- Stop saying you're not - you are. - I'm really not!- You are.
0:08:34 > 0:08:36But it's all going to be brilliant - and thank you so much,
0:08:36 > 0:08:39people are already sending money to Sport Relief, so, thank you,
0:08:39 > 0:08:41and being really supportive, and I might see you along the way,
0:08:41 > 0:08:44so, if you're anywhere between Blackpool and Brighton,
0:08:44 > 0:08:47- along the route, come and say hello. - Give her a clap and a wave.
0:08:47 > 0:08:49Give us a wave, or throw me some Jelly Babies.
0:08:49 > 0:08:50I don't know, anything you fancy.
0:08:50 > 0:08:53- Sure you don't fancy it, Sal?- Er... - There's always room for one more.
0:08:53 > 0:08:56I'm really busy next week....
0:08:56 > 0:08:58She's only had a few weeks to prepare,
0:08:58 > 0:09:00but it's now the day before the challenge,
0:09:00 > 0:09:03and Zoe is making her way to Blackpool.
0:09:05 > 0:09:08I used to love coming to Blackpool when I was a little girl.
0:09:08 > 0:09:12Firstly, to see my grandparents, who I completely loved and adored,
0:09:12 > 0:09:15and I just thought the place was a wonderland.
0:09:19 > 0:09:22My grandparents are gone from this place,
0:09:22 > 0:09:26and it's quite close to Billy's family and his home,
0:09:26 > 0:09:30and there was sort of no getting away from the fact that I'm here,
0:09:30 > 0:09:32the time is now,
0:09:32 > 0:09:35and I've actually got to do it now.
0:09:36 > 0:09:37This is the start.
0:09:37 > 0:09:40She's got a very, very tough challenge ahead of her,
0:09:40 > 0:09:43a lot of miles to do in very difficult conditions.
0:09:43 > 0:09:46It is no walk in the park.
0:09:46 > 0:09:48- Hey!- Hello!
0:09:48 > 0:09:49Hey, boss!
0:09:49 > 0:09:52Oh, my goodness me.
0:09:52 > 0:09:54- The sun was out earlier - did you see?- No.
0:09:54 > 0:09:58- The sun doesn't exist at this time of year.- It's gone again!
0:09:58 > 0:09:59Oh, look!
0:09:59 > 0:10:03- She's beautiful, isn't she? - Well, yes - you say that now!
0:10:03 > 0:10:06- Am I really going to fall out with this bike?- You are, you are.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24We're going to take it steady, steady, so, it's going to be good.
0:10:24 > 0:10:25You ready?
0:10:25 > 0:10:27Ready as I'll ever be!
0:10:27 > 0:10:29All right, great, thanks, guys.
0:10:29 > 0:10:30APPLAUSE
0:10:36 > 0:10:38I'm really quite scared.
0:10:38 > 0:10:41I didn't know I could be this scared.
0:10:43 > 0:10:45So, you can have this incredible team around you,
0:10:45 > 0:10:50you can have all this support, and all this love coming at you,
0:10:50 > 0:10:55but I'm the one who's got to actually live up to this now.
0:10:55 > 0:10:58Everyone has a bit of doubt in your own abilities,
0:10:58 > 0:10:59and we're quite good at going,
0:10:59 > 0:11:01"Yeah, I can do this, I can do that, I can do this."
0:11:01 > 0:11:04I'm not an athlete, I'm not a person who runs marathons, you know?
0:11:04 > 0:11:08I think that's the thing. Everyone's like, "You can do this.
0:11:08 > 0:11:11"You can do this," and they're looking at me, going, "Can't you?
0:11:11 > 0:11:13"You can do this, can't you?"

0:12:07 > 0:12:11And losing him was...
0:12:11 > 0:12:14..the worst thing that I've ever gone through and the effect was
0:12:14 > 0:12:15so profound on all of us
0:12:15 > 0:12:18that to support her doing this is a no-brainer.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46Yay, Zoe!
0:19:46 > 0:19:49So, we found out this morning that Zoe Ball will be cycling
0:19:49 > 0:19:51through the village this afternoon, so we brought our whole school out
0:19:51 > 0:19:53to support Zoe.
0:19:54 > 0:19:56Hello! How are you doing?

0:20:02 > 0:20:04Nice to see you all.
0:20:04 > 0:20:05Bye!
0:20:08 > 0:20:10The support is overwhelming.
0:20:13 > 0:20:19And the reason she set out on this journey is never far from her mind.
0:20:19 > 0:20:23I think the whole situation of what happened to Billy
0:20:23 > 0:20:24is quite unbelievable.
0:20:24 > 0:20:27There are times when I think...
0:20:27 > 0:20:29..where I can't really believe he's gone.
0:20:33 > 0:20:34I knew...
0:20:36 > 0:20:37..how much pain he was in.
0:20:40 > 0:20:43He couldn't make sense of what was happening to him.
0:20:43 > 0:20:49I could almost see... It's sort of like a change in the lights,
0:20:49 > 0:20:53you could see the pain almost come into his eyes.
0:20:53 > 0:20:56You'd want to say, "Come on, stay with me, stay with me.
0:20:59 > 0:21:03"Let's find something positive, something joyous,
0:21:03 > 0:21:05"let's get you out of this headspace."
0:21:05 > 0:21:07And it was harder and harder to do that.
0:21:13 > 0:21:14Two months ago,
0:21:14 > 0:21:17Zoe went to talk to someone who had suffered a similar loss.
0:21:19 > 0:21:26In 2012, Jamie Johnson took his own life when he was only 19.
0:21:26 > 0:21:30We went out to Turkey and we were having a lovely holiday.
0:21:30 > 0:21:33You know, Jamie was having a great time with his brothers.
0:21:33 > 0:21:35In fact, my husband and I did say to each other,
0:21:35 > 0:21:37"It's the happiest he's ever been."
0:21:39 > 0:21:42- Penny.- Zoe. Come on in.- Give us a hug.
0:21:45 > 0:21:47- So, this is Jamie here. - Oh, bless him.
0:21:47 > 0:21:50- There's my boy. - There's your boy.
0:21:50 > 0:21:53- He's lovely, isn't he? - He is a gorgeous one.
0:21:53 > 0:21:56- That was just a couple of days before.- Before?- Yeah.
0:21:56 > 0:21:59Happy behind the bar, working away.
0:22:00 > 0:22:04- Hadn't a clue.- I was going to say, did you have any idea?- Did you?
0:22:04 > 0:22:06No idea at all.
0:22:07 > 0:22:10Just didn't know. Just didn't know it was coming.
0:22:10 > 0:22:13On the actual day, we were three days into our holiday
0:22:13 > 0:22:16and I said to my brother, "Do you know where Jamie is?"
0:22:16 > 0:22:17He said, "Oh, he's gone up to the room."
0:22:17 > 0:22:20I thought, "Yeah, another afternoon sleeping it off."
0:22:20 > 0:22:23Anyway, we all spent the afternoon by the pool,
0:22:23 > 0:22:25really enjoying ourselves,
0:22:25 > 0:22:27and about four o'clock, my brother,
0:22:27 > 0:22:30who was sharing the room with Jamie, went up to get changed,
0:22:30 > 0:22:34took his son up to get changed... My nephew was with us.
0:22:34 > 0:22:36..and he opened the door and found him.
0:22:41 > 0:22:45It was just pure shock and pure disbelief for a few months.
0:22:48 > 0:22:50Tell me more about Jamie.
0:22:50 > 0:22:55He made me laugh, he made... He was bright.
0:22:55 > 0:22:58You know, he was the life and soul of school,
0:22:58 > 0:22:59not always to his...
0:22:59 > 0:23:02- ..his teachers' delight. - Yeah.
0:23:02 > 0:23:05He just went from this happy-go-lucky lad to...
0:23:05 > 0:23:07I don't know. He was just sad.
0:23:07 > 0:23:09His self-esteem was nowhere.
0:23:09 > 0:23:11"Oh, what does it matter? What does it matter?"
0:23:11 > 0:23:12He was just, like, giving up.
0:23:12 > 0:23:15Suicide is really cruel
0:23:15 > 0:23:17because there's...
0:23:17 > 0:23:22You feel like there's so much you should have been able to do.
0:23:22 > 0:23:26How can this wonderful person get to a point where
0:23:26 > 0:23:31they would feel that everybody would be better off with them not here
0:23:31 > 0:23:34or that they were a burden?
0:23:34 > 0:23:38I remember turning up at his funeral and thinking,
0:23:38 > 0:23:40- "Jamie would love this." - He would love this.
0:23:40 > 0:23:44Yeah. All those people. All that love in the room there.
0:23:44 > 0:23:49Yeah. And we need to let people know that while they're still here.
0:23:50 > 0:23:54And, you know, just a little text message, a little anything,
0:23:54 > 0:23:57- just to make people know that they're loved.- They're loved.
0:23:59 > 0:24:01How...how are your two boys?
0:24:01 > 0:24:04The little one, he struggled the most. He was ten when it happened.
0:24:06 > 0:24:07My husband goes upstairs
0:24:07 > 0:24:10four or five times a night and checks on them.
0:24:10 > 0:24:12They're 16 and 21 now.
0:24:12 > 0:24:16- Just to check they're OK because just that shock of finding...- Yeah.
0:24:17 > 0:24:21Making sure that they're OK every minute. It's really hard.
0:24:21 > 0:24:29- You're amazing. You're amazing. - Thank you.- Oh, goodness me.
0:24:29 > 0:24:33After Jamie's death, Penny struggled to find support,
0:24:33 > 0:24:36so she helped found The Tomorrow Project
0:24:36 > 0:24:37as part of Harmless,
0:24:37 > 0:24:40an organisation funded by Sport Relief donations,
0:24:40 > 0:24:44offering help to bereaved families and those at risk of suicide.
0:24:45 > 0:24:49I think if it hadn't been for the project, The Tomorrow Project,
0:24:49 > 0:24:52at the beginning, that gave me a real purpose in life,
0:24:52 > 0:24:54and the team giving me my counselling
0:24:54 > 0:24:57and supporting me emotionally,
0:24:57 > 0:25:00without those two, I don't think I'd be here.
0:25:00 > 0:25:04I just feel that the project saved me
0:25:04 > 0:25:09and it needs to be able to help others.
0:25:09 > 0:25:13There are around 6,000 suicides across the UK every year
0:25:13 > 0:25:18and people right now who are experiencing mental health problems.
0:25:18 > 0:25:21Money raised by Sport Relief is helping to fund
0:25:21 > 0:25:25projects across the country that can offer hope.
0:26:01 > 0:26:02Oh.
0:26:02 > 0:26:05Thank you very much. Hello!
0:26:05 > 0:26:08Look, cyclists! Cyclists!
0:26:08 > 0:26:11Thank you, my love. Oh!
0:26:11 > 0:26:15And at today's finish just outside Shrewsbury...
0:26:17 > 0:26:22..the whole village of Upton Magna have turned out to welcome Zoe.
0:26:22 > 0:26:25Men are suffering a lot more with emotional health, mental health
0:26:25 > 0:26:27and they do need a lot more support
0:26:27 > 0:26:29and men need to get that out there and talk about it.
0:26:29 > 0:26:31A bit like prostate cancer.
0:26:31 > 0:26:33They need to be supportive and stick together.
0:26:33 > 0:26:35They need to be a bit more chatty, like women.
0:26:37 > 0:26:38We look after our heart, our lungs.
0:26:38 > 0:26:41We need to be looking after our minds as well.
0:26:41 > 0:26:43Say, "Well done, Zoe."
0:26:43 > 0:26:45Well done, Zoe.
0:26:45 > 0:26:48I think it's been an amazing thing for the village for people to
0:26:48 > 0:26:52gather together and to realise that even though some people may
0:26:52 > 0:26:55feel that that community spirit has gone from some of our villages
0:26:55 > 0:26:59that actually it is really prevalent and is thriving.
0:26:59 > 0:27:01Come on, Zoe!
0:27:01 > 0:27:02CHEERING
0:27:06 > 0:27:09- CHANTING:- Zoe! Zoe! Zoe!

0:27:40 > 0:27:42- Do it. Just do it, yeah? - Yeah.
0:27:42 > 0:27:44Takes your breath away.
0:27:49 > 0:27:53I had a really lovely point in the day with Greg
0:27:53 > 0:27:56where we were actually quite quiet
0:27:56 > 0:27:58and we had a really big sort of think
0:27:58 > 0:28:03as we went through this beautiful, beautiful countryside in Shropshire
0:28:03 > 0:28:05and it was so peaceful,
0:28:05 > 0:28:10and just thinking about Billy and Penny and all the people
0:28:10 > 0:28:14that we're hoping we're going to help by doing this challenge,
0:28:14 > 0:28:18and it was really good to spend some time with those thoughts.
0:28:18 > 0:28:22To think, that's why we're doing it. Remember why we're doing it.
0:28:35 > 0:28:39Still three days to go and we've got the hilliest sections.
0:28:39 > 0:28:43I mean, the really tough riding is still yet to come.
0:28:43 > 0:28:44Look who we ran in to.
0:28:44 > 0:28:48- Biked in to.- I know. I biked in to Harry Judd.
0:28:50 > 0:28:53Pop star and Strictly Come Dancing winner Harry Judd
0:28:53 > 0:28:56is joining Zoe for the first stage of today's ride.
0:28:56 > 0:28:58Fingers crossed I won't fall
0:28:58 > 0:29:01and I'll hopefully just add a bit of support for Zoe today,
0:29:01 > 0:29:03who's doing an amazing thing.
0:29:03 > 0:29:04Lead the way. All right, guys.
0:29:04 > 0:29:06Thank you!
0:29:06 > 0:29:08Off we go.
0:29:08 > 0:29:11Isn't it amazing to see all these people wishing you well?
0:29:11 > 0:29:14I've done about 100 metres and I'm taking all the praise.
0:29:14 > 0:29:16Yeah, thank you! "Keep going, Harry!"
0:29:18 > 0:29:19But only two miles out of town
0:29:19 > 0:29:22is one of the toughest hills they'll face.
0:29:22 > 0:29:25Remember, don't attack it. Nice and steady.
0:29:26 > 0:29:27Look at Harry.
0:29:27 > 0:29:29He's not even breaking a sweat.
0:29:31 > 0:29:32Good.
0:29:32 > 0:29:35The hills, I knew they were coming
0:29:35 > 0:29:37but you're already fatigued and quite tired.
0:29:39 > 0:29:42But I have to say, Harry, on the hills, he is the man.
0:29:42 > 0:29:45He's brilliant and he fired ahead and I think that's the thing,
0:29:45 > 0:29:47I was like, "Yeah, come on, I can do this."
0:29:49 > 0:29:51Really dig in now. Really focus.
0:29:51 > 0:29:55But a hill on a bend, that's my nemesis.
0:29:55 > 0:29:57Push, push, push, push, push.
0:29:57 > 0:30:00All the strength you've got. You get to recover in 100 metres.
0:30:00 > 0:30:01Struggling.
0:30:01 > 0:30:04You're going well, you're going well, you're going well, Zoe.
0:30:04 > 0:30:05- Shit!- Stop, stop, stop.- Oh!
0:30:07 > 0:30:08Ah...
0:30:09 > 0:30:12- Oh, shit.- You're doing properly...
0:30:12 > 0:30:13Oh, God.
0:30:13 > 0:30:18- It's good. It's a tough hill, properly tough hill.- It's tough.
0:30:18 > 0:30:21I think pride's hurt a bit
0:30:21 > 0:30:22but I'm OK.
0:30:22 > 0:30:26It does put a bit of fear in you, though, that thing, I think once
0:30:26 > 0:30:29you've fallen it's like, "Oh, no, please don't let that happen again."
0:30:30 > 0:30:33- Three, two, one, go.- Oi, oi, oi!
0:30:33 > 0:30:35That was tough. That was hideous.
0:30:35 > 0:30:36Hideous!
0:30:36 > 0:30:38Harry's actually in Stratford.
0:30:42 > 0:30:45When she finally catches up with him, Zoe's curious about
0:30:45 > 0:30:48Harry's past struggles with his own mental health.
0:30:49 > 0:30:53What helped you the most in your most troubling time?
0:30:53 > 0:30:57For me, just that kind of support system of, you know,
0:30:57 > 0:30:59close friends and family.
0:30:59 > 0:31:02I feel lucky in that I've always been comfortable
0:31:02 > 0:31:03- being open about it...- Yeah.
0:31:03 > 0:31:06When I first went to see a doctor, I was very frightened,
0:31:06 > 0:31:08I didn't know what was going on and he just explained it, he said,
0:31:08 > 0:31:11"Look, Harry, it's very similar to someone who has a broken leg.
0:31:11 > 0:31:14"You know, it's broken and it takes time to heal."
0:31:14 > 0:31:18And that made me realise it's OK, and actually it's completely normal.
0:31:18 > 0:31:20It's not nice but it's normal.
0:31:20 > 0:31:23You know, the thing with mental health is it's a very isolating
0:31:23 > 0:31:27experience and you kind of feel like, when you're going through it,
0:31:27 > 0:31:31that no-one understands and you're the only person going through it.
0:31:31 > 0:31:34Particularly for men, we sometimes find it hard to open up
0:31:34 > 0:31:39but I think it's actually braver to be able to speak out and be honest
0:31:39 > 0:31:43than it is to hide and not say something, to be truthful, so...
0:31:45 > 0:31:47Whilst Billy was battling with depression,
0:31:47 > 0:31:50Zoe had struggled to find the right place to seek help.
0:31:52 > 0:31:54During her time in Nottingham,
0:31:54 > 0:31:57she visited the project that Penny had helped to set up.
0:31:57 > 0:32:01Supported by Sport Relief, it offers a safe place to talk.
0:32:01 > 0:32:05She'll be asking, "Has Daddy been sick, has he...?"
0:32:05 > 0:32:07And it's just, it's a hard thing to...
0:32:07 > 0:32:11Then trying to explain that, it was quite difficult
0:32:11 > 0:32:14putting it into a way that a child would understand.
0:32:14 > 0:32:18Since losing Billy, so many people have talked to me
0:32:18 > 0:32:22through social media or friends or friends of friends,
0:32:22 > 0:32:28and it seems that everybody you meet has been touched by mental illness.
0:32:29 > 0:32:33How do you help a loved one?
0:32:33 > 0:32:38I'd love to think that there is something that you can do
0:32:38 > 0:32:42to help someone you love, in that situation.
0:32:43 > 0:32:48Run by Caroline Harroe at Harmless, The Tomorrow Project offers
0:32:48 > 0:32:52support and hope to those at risk of suicide, and their families.
0:32:52 > 0:32:54If we can create another tomorrow.
0:32:54 > 0:32:57That's why The Tomorrow Project is called what it is.
0:32:57 > 0:33:00If we can get somebody through that extra night, then we've created
0:33:00 > 0:33:03hope, we've created another day in which we can do something with that.
0:33:03 > 0:33:05We can provide support,
0:33:05 > 0:33:08we can challenge some of the difficulties people face.
0:33:08 > 0:33:12Men are three times more likely than women to take their own lives,
0:33:12 > 0:33:15with men in their early 40s at the highest risk.
0:33:15 > 0:33:19So sessions like these can be a crucial lifeline.
0:33:19 > 0:33:22There'll be some days where getting out of bed, you know,
0:33:22 > 0:33:25is just an absolute nightmare.
0:33:25 > 0:33:28You only have to do it because you need to get to the toilet.
0:33:28 > 0:33:31The depression and anxiety's still there but it's a lot more,
0:33:31 > 0:33:34much more manageable, thanks to these guys, so...
0:33:34 > 0:33:37For Zoe, it was hard to really understand
0:33:37 > 0:33:39what Billy was going through.
0:33:39 > 0:33:43- Will, you come here, you live with depression.- Yeah.
0:33:43 > 0:33:48How does depression feel in your head, for you?
0:33:48 > 0:33:52For anyone who doesn't live with it, it's so difficult
0:33:52 > 0:33:55- for other people to understand. - Yeah, I mean...
0:33:55 > 0:33:56It's so crippling sometimes.
0:33:56 > 0:33:59You know, obviously you've good days, bad days, things like that.
0:33:59 > 0:34:03But when you're talking to people that have never experienced it,
0:34:03 > 0:34:07never experienced depression, never experienced that sort of anxiety,
0:34:07 > 0:34:11and kind of think, "What are you talking about?" You know, "Just get on with it",
0:34:11 > 0:34:13You just want to almost tear it from yourself
0:34:13 > 0:34:17and put it inside someone else, just to say, "There you go."
0:34:17 > 0:34:19- That's how it feels. - "It's not that nice, is it?"
0:34:19 > 0:34:21- Yeah.- Just so they know what I'm talking about. So, yeah,
0:34:21 > 0:34:24but then, you know, gradually you do come out of it,
0:34:24 > 0:34:27you do come out the other end,
0:34:27 > 0:34:30because there are services out there, like The Tomorrow Project,
0:34:30 > 0:34:32which is just brilliant. Yeah.
0:34:34 > 0:34:38It's thanks to projects like these that people living with depression
0:34:38 > 0:34:40are able to access the help they need.
0:34:40 > 0:34:43So, Colin, you're looking after a lot of men, specifically,
0:34:43 > 0:34:47and they've got to be quite brave to take that first step.
0:34:47 > 0:34:49Oh, it's massive. That first conversation
0:34:49 > 0:34:52is one of the most important things, then we can go on from there.
0:34:52 > 0:34:53So that might be in their home,
0:34:53 > 0:34:56- it could be in a pub, a park. - It could be pub, park -
0:34:56 > 0:34:58it's about giving that opportunity to say,
0:34:58 > 0:35:01"It's fine, I can meet you there, we don't have to rush into things,
0:35:01 > 0:35:04"there's going to be no spotlight on you. We're just going to have a conversation"
0:35:04 > 0:35:06and I think it's so important.
0:35:06 > 0:35:08I think that's great for people watching this to hear as well,
0:35:08 > 0:35:11that it's not necessarily going to be in that first meeting.
0:35:11 > 0:35:16- No.- It might take a few meetings for someone to feel safe,
0:35:16 > 0:35:21to feel they can trust you, to feel that it's OK to start opening up.
0:35:21 > 0:35:23They've got the opportunity to take their time
0:35:23 > 0:35:25and move things forward for themselves, that space.
0:35:28 > 0:35:31To see first-hand the people they're helping and the difference
0:35:31 > 0:35:35it has made to their lives, it's just quite incredible.
0:35:35 > 0:35:38We need there to be more places like that,
0:35:38 > 0:35:41and then everybody can get the help and support that they need.
0:35:41 > 0:35:43Wouldn't that be wonderful if that could happen?
0:35:52 > 0:35:57- Is that hail? Hail or rain? - No, that's rain.- It is rain?- Rain.
0:35:57 > 0:36:00Back on the road, the weather is starting to close in.
0:36:01 > 0:36:03Actually, that is hail.
0:36:03 > 0:36:05I might not need an ice bath now.
0:36:06 > 0:36:09Just let the hail do it.
0:36:09 > 0:36:12But not far from the finish in Stratford-upon-Avon,
0:36:12 > 0:36:15the dancers from Strictly have arrived.
0:36:15 > 0:36:17Ooh, the dresses are here!
0:36:17 > 0:36:21- They're so sparkly.- Very colourful.
0:36:21 > 0:36:24- Every colour you can imagine in that.- Zoe's not going to miss us.
0:36:24 > 0:36:26No, the Zoe all-in-one outfit!
0:36:26 > 0:36:29I think she's going to be surprised that we're all here
0:36:29 > 0:36:33but she adores Strictly, so I think that when she sees all the dresses
0:36:33 > 0:36:34and we're all there
0:36:34 > 0:36:37shouting her on, she's going to be so, so happy,
0:36:37 > 0:36:38so I can't wait to see her face!
0:36:40 > 0:36:42HORN HONKS
0:36:42 > 0:36:44- Yes!- Yes!- Thank you!
0:36:44 > 0:36:47- Toot from the fire engine. - Toot from the firemen.
0:36:47 > 0:36:49That goes a long way.
0:36:49 > 0:36:51After a gruelling 68-mile cycle,
0:36:51 > 0:36:54Zoe has completed day three of the challenge.
0:36:54 > 0:36:56CHEERING
0:36:57 > 0:37:00- Guys, I don't know but I think we're going to be late.- Come on!
0:37:00 > 0:37:03And there's a sequinned surprise waiting for her in reception.
0:37:03 > 0:37:06Where's the door? It's an automatic door.
0:37:07 > 0:37:10MUSIC: Strictly Come Dancing theme
0:37:12 > 0:37:15Oh, my goodness! Aah!
0:37:15 > 0:37:17Oh, my God! Yes! Aah!
0:37:19 > 0:37:22Oh, I don't believe it.
0:37:27 > 0:37:30This is the best. This is the best day ever!
0:37:30 > 0:37:31Oh...
0:37:33 > 0:37:36I love you all. Oh, my God!
0:37:37 > 0:37:38It's been a really tough day
0:37:38 > 0:37:42and did you see my whole body just, like, I could walk again!
0:37:42 > 0:37:44It was, like, the miracle of dance.
0:37:44 > 0:37:48These faces, they're really... Oh, it's just totally lifted me.
0:37:48 > 0:37:50I think Zoe is a person
0:37:50 > 0:37:51who brings to everyone joy.
0:37:51 > 0:37:55She wants to give love to everyone, happiness, and she always,
0:37:55 > 0:37:57when I used to do the show with her,
0:37:57 > 0:38:00she always tried to make you feel comfortable, happy
0:38:00 > 0:38:01and create a good atmosphere.
0:38:01 > 0:38:03We chose it.
0:38:05 > 0:38:08It means so much, it really, really does,
0:38:08 > 0:38:11and they are like family, they're like family,
0:38:11 > 0:38:13so what an amazing treat.
0:38:13 > 0:38:17The most surreal end to an extraordinary day.
0:38:19 > 0:38:22- WHISPERS:- The challenge is in absolutely pushing her to the edge
0:38:22 > 0:38:24because of her level of fitness
0:38:24 > 0:38:27and what we're asking from her is something above and beyond,
0:38:27 > 0:38:29for someone who's only cycled 50 miles,
0:38:29 > 0:38:33and then every day to do 70, is absolute hell to her.
0:38:36 > 0:38:40At the first early-morning stop, Zoe checks in with Chris Evans.
0:38:43 > 0:38:47Zoe Ball is here. Where is she at the moment? What's she up to?
0:38:47 > 0:38:51- Come in, Zoe, live from... - Talton Mill, Chris.
0:38:51 > 0:38:53I'm in Talton Mill,
0:38:53 > 0:38:58where a very nice man called Mark has just made me the best
0:38:58 > 0:39:02bacon, sausage and egg bap I think I've ever had in my life.
0:39:02 > 0:39:05- Perfect for a cyclist.- I know.
0:39:05 > 0:39:08Do you know what, I really needed it today, Chris.
0:39:08 > 0:39:10- It's getting really hard.- Aww.
0:39:10 > 0:39:13So, listen, here's what you've raised so far, Zoe, get ready
0:39:13 > 0:39:16- for this, total raised so far... - DRUM ROLL PLAYS
0:39:16 > 0:39:19£192,542, Zoe Ball!
0:39:19 > 0:39:20Oh, my goodness me, that's amazing.
0:39:20 > 0:39:23- How good is that?- That is amazing.
0:39:23 > 0:39:25- Oh, tears, tears.- Sorry. - Tears on the crossbar.
0:39:25 > 0:39:27Just having a little cry. It's a happy cry, though.
0:39:27 > 0:39:29I hope it's carbon fibre, otherwise it will rust.
0:39:29 > 0:39:33- All right, now...- OK.- Off with you! I'll talk with you tomorrow. Ta-ra!
0:39:33 > 0:39:36Doing some squats. That's amazing. Thank you so much.
0:39:36 > 0:39:38I can't believe that. That's absolutely incredible.
0:39:38 > 0:39:41Thank you, Chris. Thank you to everyone who's donated.
0:39:41 > 0:39:42That is just something else.
0:39:42 > 0:39:45And all that money's going to help so many people. It's brilliant.
0:39:47 > 0:39:48Thank you.
0:39:51 > 0:39:54I think that's the thing, it's getting really tough
0:39:54 > 0:39:59and then to hear that the money's gone up so much is amazing.
0:39:59 > 0:40:01And they are kind of happy tears.
0:40:01 > 0:40:06But I think you kind of dig in deep... Getting a bit weak and fatigued...
0:40:06 > 0:40:08And then you hear that, and you think, "Oh, my goodness!
0:40:08 > 0:40:11"It's so worth it and that's why we're doing it."
0:40:11 > 0:40:14And there's so much generosity from people, it's amazing.
0:40:14 > 0:40:16But I think it's encouraging,
0:40:16 > 0:40:20because it obviously is touching people, that they want to help
0:40:20 > 0:40:22other people and that's fantastic.
0:40:22 > 0:40:25I mean, the generosity of people blows my mind sometimes.
0:40:25 > 0:40:30You know, to be sort of directly involved with that is amazing.
0:40:30 > 0:40:34And just when you're thinking, "How am I going to get through today?
0:40:34 > 0:40:37"That's how I'm going to get through today!"
0:40:37 > 0:40:38It's... You know...
0:40:43 > 0:40:45- Good stuff, mate.- Yeah.
0:40:46 > 0:40:48Hi! Hello.
0:40:48 > 0:40:50Whoo! Oh, I nearly fell off.
0:40:50 > 0:40:53Hello, kids. Hi! How are you?
0:40:54 > 0:40:56Thank you.
0:40:56 > 0:40:58Thank you for coming out in the rain. Thank you.
0:40:58 > 0:41:00Thank you, teachers.
0:41:00 > 0:41:03This is definitely something that's very close to my heart.
0:41:03 > 0:41:06I've talked quite openly previously about my own
0:41:06 > 0:41:09experiences of depression and anxiety,
0:41:09 > 0:41:14and I think, anyone spreading the word, opening up that conversation,
0:41:14 > 0:41:15encouraging people to talk more,
0:41:15 > 0:41:17is a brilliant and very worthwhile thing.
0:41:18 > 0:41:21Thank you. Go, girls. That's you as well, Greg.
0:41:22 > 0:41:25Fearne is joining Zoe for support.
0:41:25 > 0:41:27Hi, guys. Thank you. Very wobbly!
0:41:28 > 0:41:30The next few miles will take them
0:41:30 > 0:41:33through one of the most historic cities on the route.
0:41:34 > 0:41:36Oh, we like flat Oxford.
0:41:36 > 0:41:40- Nice and flat. - This is lovely and a bit of traffic.
0:41:40 > 0:41:42A bit of traffic, nice, slow pace.
0:41:42 > 0:41:45How do you sit on this bike for so long?
0:41:45 > 0:41:47Already, my lady bits have gone a bit numb.
0:41:47 > 0:41:49- Yeah, I know.- God Almighty!
0:41:49 > 0:41:53Well, it's just so brilliant you're doing it, Zoe, honestly. It's just amazing.
0:41:53 > 0:41:55Already, though, it's helped so many people,
0:41:55 > 0:41:57- just from people knowing that you're doing this.- Yeah.
0:41:57 > 0:41:59And, you know, especially, men, you know,
0:41:59 > 0:42:02feeling like they can talk out more.
0:42:02 > 0:42:04It is such a shame and, you know, we've both got sons and you
0:42:04 > 0:42:08want to kind of bring them up to know that it's OK to talk about anything.
0:42:08 > 0:42:10- Anything at all, yeah. - Anything at all.
0:42:14 > 0:42:16So, tell me a bit about Jason.
0:42:16 > 0:42:20Finding the courage to speak out was life-changing for one of the men
0:42:20 > 0:42:23Zoe met in Nottingham two months ago.
0:42:23 > 0:42:26- So he's gone back to what he loves, back to the gym.- Yeah.
0:42:26 > 0:42:28Back to doing competitions and moving himself forward.
0:42:28 > 0:42:30- It's amazing.- Fantastic.
0:42:30 > 0:42:33Jason has been struggling with his mental health
0:42:33 > 0:42:34since he was a teenager.
0:42:34 > 0:42:36HE EXHALES
0:42:36 > 0:42:38Oh, my goodness me.
0:42:38 > 0:42:40- Hi, Jason.- How you doing?
0:42:40 > 0:42:43- Jason, lovely...- Nice to meet you. - Oh, no. Go on, give me a sweaty hug.
0:42:43 > 0:42:48My goodness me. So I've come to see you and you're going to make me look like that, yeah, this afternoon?
0:42:48 > 0:42:50- We'll give it a go, know what I mean?- Yeah? OK.
0:42:50 > 0:42:52- Stopping for a workout? - No, no, no. I'll leave you guys.
0:42:52 > 0:42:55During Jason's battle with depression,
0:42:55 > 0:42:57he sometimes felt that life wasn't worth living.
0:42:58 > 0:43:02I was doing a lot of, you know, just sinking into a pit,
0:43:02 > 0:43:04self-harm, everything else that goes with it.
0:43:05 > 0:43:08And I just had, probably the lowest point of my life, and...
0:43:10 > 0:43:13..I woke up in hospital knowing full well what I'd done,
0:43:13 > 0:43:18and it was just, like, really no, no way out of it.
0:43:18 > 0:43:22Still experiencing suicidal thoughts, 12 months ago,
0:43:22 > 0:43:25Jason contacted The Tomorrow Project.
0:43:25 > 0:43:27I went to see Colin and I was more scared about this bloke
0:43:27 > 0:43:31sat in front of me, saying - you know, what's he going to say?
0:43:31 > 0:43:34Was he going to... Is he going to think I'm mental, is he going to shove me
0:43:34 > 0:43:36in the back of a van and cart me off to somewhere,
0:43:36 > 0:43:38or is he going to sit there and laugh at me? And he didn't.
0:43:38 > 0:43:41That fear is so huge, isn't it?
0:43:41 > 0:43:44- And it does stop so many people reaching out.- Yeah.
0:43:44 > 0:43:45He didn't judge.
0:43:45 > 0:43:47He didn't say, "Right, this is what you need to do."
0:43:47 > 0:43:50He just listened.
0:43:50 > 0:43:51You know, and it starts working.
0:43:51 > 0:43:56I started talking and I started... coming out of my shell.
0:43:56 > 0:44:00That... As much as men need to talk, somebody else needs to listen.
0:44:00 > 0:44:02And that's what they're there for.
0:44:09 > 0:44:14It's so hard to comprehend what depression or a mental illness
0:44:14 > 0:44:19feels like if you haven't suffered, and it's that thing, you know,
0:44:19 > 0:44:21maybe sometimes I think I was
0:44:21 > 0:44:26so busy trying to find a solution or find a therapist,
0:44:26 > 0:44:29or look for help here, or let's do this, or let's do that,
0:44:29 > 0:44:32that perhaps, maybe the most powerful thing
0:44:32 > 0:44:34I could have done is to sit and listen.
0:44:34 > 0:44:37HE BREATHES HEAVILY
0:44:37 > 0:44:40You're looking very strong and you're looking really well.
0:44:40 > 0:44:44How do you keep... Have you keep your head strong?
0:44:44 > 0:44:48If I, for whatever reason, wake up one day
0:44:48 > 0:44:51and all of a sudden the weight of the world's on my shoulders
0:44:51 > 0:44:54again, I now have no problem picking up that phone.
0:44:55 > 0:44:58So, yeah, there are good days, there are bad days.
0:44:58 > 0:45:00There's, you know, points where you think to yourself,
0:45:00 > 0:45:03"I really just can't be doing with today,"
0:45:03 > 0:45:07then you think to yourself, "Well, tomorrow's a different day."
0:45:09 > 0:45:11Before she leaves,
0:45:11 > 0:45:14Zoe's keen to get some tips for her challenge from Jason.
0:45:16 > 0:45:18So what should I be eating for endurance?
0:45:18 > 0:45:20Um...
0:45:20 > 0:45:23- Bag of pizza down you the night before.- Pizza?- Yeah.
0:45:23 > 0:45:26That sounds all right. I'm OK with that!
0:45:26 > 0:45:29And mentally, how do you keep yourself going?
0:45:29 > 0:45:31Just think about why you're doing it.
0:45:31 > 0:45:34You're right. Jason, you're right.
0:45:34 > 0:45:36Thank you.
0:45:36 > 0:45:37I may be screaming and cursing
0:45:37 > 0:45:40and shouting your name somewhere along that ride!
0:45:42 > 0:45:47If, like Zoe, you've been inspired by Jason's story, you can donate to
0:45:47 > 0:45:51Sport Relief to help mental health charities across the country.
0:45:52 > 0:45:54Oh, God. Oh, God...
0:45:59 > 0:46:00OK, OK...
0:46:05 > 0:46:07- That's it. Just squeeze it out now. - Oh, good grief!
0:46:07 > 0:46:09- That's brilliant.- Ah!
0:46:09 > 0:46:12Remember, this pain is short-lived.
0:46:12 > 0:46:14There is no doubt about it. She's at her breaking point
0:46:14 > 0:46:17in the sense that this is really, really difficult,
0:46:17 > 0:46:21and we've still got a day and a half to go over some of the biggest
0:46:21 > 0:46:23hills in the entire challenge.
0:46:23 > 0:46:25- OK, here we go.- Right.
0:46:25 > 0:46:29- Squeeze down another gear when they keep spinning, all right?- Yeah.
0:46:29 > 0:46:31OK.
0:46:31 > 0:46:33All right.
0:46:33 > 0:46:34That's it, good.
0:46:34 > 0:46:36That's tough.
0:46:36 > 0:46:38- You've got one more left.- Yeah.
0:46:38 > 0:46:41- But only take it if you need it, OK? - Sugar, oh, sugar!
0:46:41 > 0:46:43Ooh!
0:46:43 > 0:46:45- Shit.- Zoe's exhausted.
0:46:47 > 0:46:48But only a few miles away,
0:46:48 > 0:46:51in Marlow, her friends and family are gathering.
0:46:52 > 0:46:54I think she found it very daunting at the beginning.
0:46:54 > 0:46:57I think she finds it more daunting now!
0:46:57 > 0:46:58But she's done four days
0:46:58 > 0:47:00and there's only one to go,
0:47:00 > 0:47:01so I'm sure she's going to make it.
0:47:01 > 0:47:02Here we go.
0:47:02 > 0:47:05Spin it up, girl. Spin it up!
0:47:06 > 0:47:08Oh, my Lord.
0:47:10 > 0:47:11Ah!
0:47:12 > 0:47:13Goodness me.
0:47:16 > 0:47:17Right...
0:47:17 > 0:47:19Just think about Jason.
0:47:22 > 0:47:24Telling me to think about why I'm doing this.
0:47:29 > 0:47:30Ah, that's wonderful.
0:47:30 > 0:47:33- Put it really high up. - You've got it really high up.
0:47:33 > 0:47:35- These are my grandchildren. - Hello, Grandad.
0:47:35 > 0:47:36Hello!
0:47:36 > 0:47:38So I've got to say hello to them.
0:47:38 > 0:47:41They've made these signs, look. Aren't they wonderful?
0:47:41 > 0:47:43"Go, Zo! Go, we love you!"
0:47:43 > 0:47:46- Yay!- "Zoe, you're a machine! Keep going!" Look at that.

0:48:11 > 0:48:13- I'd have come with you.- I know!
0:48:13 > 0:48:15I know.
0:48:15 > 0:48:16How are you?
0:48:16 > 0:48:17Thanks, Dad. How are you?
0:48:17 > 0:48:19How are your legs?
0:48:19 > 0:48:21The left shoulder, it's all a bit creaky.
0:48:21 > 0:48:23I want to give her the biggest hug ever.
0:48:23 > 0:48:25Squeeze the breath out of her.
0:48:25 > 0:48:26That's all I want to do.
0:48:26 > 0:48:28And then she'll be no good for tomorrow!
0:48:28 > 0:48:32This is Michael Litchard, who I bit at school.
0:48:34 > 0:48:36It's all right, you're forgiven for that! Well done.
0:48:36 > 0:48:38Today, that last hill was enormous
0:48:38 > 0:48:41and you saw, particularly with the fall, that could break
0:48:41 > 0:48:44someone's confidence, but it didn't. She got back on.
0:48:44 > 0:48:46She absolutely nailed it.
0:48:46 > 0:48:48That was impressive cycling, really impressive,
0:48:48 > 0:48:50particularly at the end of a tough day.
0:48:50 > 0:48:52Are you all right with your knees bent, Zo?
0:48:52 > 0:48:54No, not for long.
0:48:58 > 0:49:00It's almost the end of Zoe's journey
0:49:00 > 0:49:03and her thoughts turn to the last time she saw Billy.
0:49:09 > 0:49:11He called me, and as I turned round,
0:49:11 > 0:49:13his little face was there and that moment,
0:49:13 > 0:49:16my heart sort of exploded with all this love and I just thought
0:49:16 > 0:49:22to myself, "Whatever it is that we have to do, I love him so much.
0:49:22 > 0:49:26"We will get through this, somehow." And it was just that moment,
0:49:26 > 0:49:30that feeling of, "Oh, my God, I love him so much, we'll find some help,
0:49:30 > 0:49:32"it will all be OK."
0:49:32 > 0:49:34And I wish I'd told him that.
0:49:34 > 0:49:39He hopped on his bike and he cycled off
0:49:39 > 0:49:45and he turned round and sort of, you know, blew me a kiss goodbye.
0:49:45 > 0:49:48And that was the last time I saw him
0:49:48 > 0:49:51and I feel really grateful
0:49:51 > 0:49:55that I got my goodbye, in a way.
0:49:56 > 0:49:59And I think that was my one, you know.
0:50:03 > 0:50:07If one family was saved from going through that terrible loss,
0:50:07 > 0:50:09it would be worth it, you know.
0:50:09 > 0:50:10It would...
0:50:11 > 0:50:14It would be worth, you know, all of it.

0:50:31 > 0:50:33Thank you, Dot, brilliant. Thank you.
0:50:35 > 0:50:40I think Zoe is a true champion, because she's gone through it.
0:50:40 > 0:50:42She has come out of the other side of it.
0:50:42 > 0:50:46She's doing something really, really positive now, trying to help others.
0:50:46 > 0:50:49I think that's what makes her so very, very special.
0:50:49 > 0:50:52And I just hope that it does help many other people
0:50:52 > 0:50:54in the way it's helped her.
0:50:54 > 0:50:58We've actually got a huge distance to cover today.

0:51:09 > 0:51:10Beautiful views.

0:51:18 > 0:51:20Whoo! Thank you! Thank you so much.
0:51:27 > 0:51:30Halfway to Brighton, Zoe takes a moment to
0:51:30 > 0:51:33think about those her challenge has touched along the way.
0:51:34 > 0:51:38This note was left on one of our crew vehicles this morning.
0:51:38 > 0:51:42It says, "Dear Zoe, fantastic effort, well done.
0:51:42 > 0:51:43"It's a cause close to my heart.
0:51:43 > 0:51:48"It's been seven years since I lost my best friend.
0:51:48 > 0:51:52"See you on the telly at the end, go for it. Lots of love."
0:51:52 > 0:51:54And...
0:51:54 > 0:51:58You know, it's been so moving, as we go along the road,
0:51:58 > 0:52:03that so many people have come up and taken a quiet moment with me
0:52:03 > 0:52:06and shared their own stories.
0:52:08 > 0:52:10That's what we wanted this challenge to do,
0:52:10 > 0:52:12is make people feel that they could share.
0:52:12 > 0:52:15I think that's the thing - the more people feel that they can talk to me
0:52:15 > 0:52:19about it, the more they feel they can talk to other people about it.
0:52:19 > 0:52:21That's what we need to do, we just all need to be able to talk
0:52:21 > 0:52:23to each other about these things, don't we?
0:52:23 > 0:52:25Ugh.
0:52:25 > 0:52:27Soggy, soggy.

0:52:34 > 0:52:36Hey, Brighton, we're coming for you.
0:52:36 > 0:52:40But there's one more hurdle she needs to overcome.
0:52:40 > 0:52:41Oh, dear.
0:52:41 > 0:52:45Devil's Dyke, at the top of the South Downs.
0:52:45 > 0:52:46It's getting tough now.

0:53:10 > 0:53:12You OK?
0:53:12 > 0:53:14Just a little dig around this corner.

0:53:36 > 0:53:39I just feel like I've got no power.
0:53:39 > 0:53:40You have got loads of power, mate.
0:53:40 > 0:53:43Squeeze it out, there's always something left in there.
